(00:02):
Let's go. This is the SeanSalisbury Show regard. Let's turn our attention
to the NFL drafts Round one lastnight, rounds two and three tonight.

(00:25):
Texan is going to be in themix, and we welcome an NFL insider,
Aaron Wilson. Oh yeah, andyou hear him right here every single
week during the season at Aaron Wilsonon Twitter. One of the best in
the business covering at nationally and locallyhere at the Houston Texans, and you
can get his mug on TV aswell locally. We got him right now,
Aaron, welcome in and my man, was there any thoughts of trading

(00:47):
back into the first round yesterday bythe Texans? Oh yeah, they explored
those scenarios. It didn't come toa point where it made any sense at
all. So for them to makethat kind of move up the draft,
with the emphasis on offense that weall watched that trend and where the league

(01:07):
is going, and Texans having afew defensive needs corner, defensive tackle,
it's felt pretty perfectly for them. And there was no running back expected to
be drafted. They're all available. They can do anything they want really here
and there probably will be a fewplayers that will be tempting because they're at

(01:29):
forty two currently. I could seea move up scenario. I just don't
know which one particular player whose nickseria doesn't give out that kind of information
that they covet the most. Butyou know, you see the best availables.
There's a lot of good football playersthat can help the Texans in several

(01:49):
areas, including linebacker as well.So I like the way the draft bell
the Texans and I think they're ingood position today with three picks, two
second rounders, one third rounder.Yeah, Aaron Wilson joins us for his
weekly visiting gratefully having them on specialtime here with a draft around, but

(02:10):
it is normal time for us onFriday. Aaron play the game. It's
just as kind of for me.But I mean, I'm sure others wanted
to speculate on it. Had theyhave not traded that first round pick,
and what would they what would theyhave focused on? I know, I
mean, I'm thinking, Okay,if Diggs doesn't come from Buffalo, do
they focus on a wide receiver?Well that those two gigs together with the

(02:35):
Vikings and with Buffalo, what wouldthey have focused on? What would their
energy have been spent in the firstround. I think they would have probably
been climbed for a corner or adefensive tackle, and they would have had,
you know, some pretty tempting playersat those spots. Do you think
about the grades. I think itwould have been something like that. I

(02:58):
don't know if it would have beenthe wide receiver. They don't on paper
need one right now. They couldin the future because you've got Stefane Diggs
in a one year of rental andyou have Nico Collins who's hanging into a
contract here. I'm sure that oneof them is going to be back,
and probably more luckily and then notit's Nico. But nothing's done until it's

(03:23):
done. And you saw another pieceof data with the AJ Brown extension.
I don't think that's the number thatNico will get to you. But no,
the price is only going to goup at wide receiver and he's a
good one. So that that's somethingthat I think that is going to feel

(03:44):
in the you know, pretty soonon the front burner post draft, so
it's gonna have mutual interest in gettingdone. But yes, I think corner,
that's thing. That's what they wouldhave probably looked at more than anything,
and then that's probably what they're gonnalook at first here as well in
the second round. Yeah, numbertwo corners something they eat to look at.

(04:09):
Whether they can get better than JeffOkuda and CJ. Anderson. If
there's something someone out there, Ithink that makes a lot of sense,
or detackle, but corner until tosupport corner more. I think what's left
at corner exceeds the defensive linemen.Right, Aaron, let me. Aaron
Wilson joins us as he does everyFriday during the football season, getting a

(04:30):
special version draft version, as theTexans have three picks today, two twos
and a third. Aaron, thisteam from three wins and a tie to
ten wins. I mean the quantumleap was you know, you were on
with us every week was fascinating andthey earned it because they played great and
they're doing it the right way.Isn't it amazing to you that we're talking
here as if there's nothing desperate? This team in a matter of a year

(04:56):
has gone from oh my gosh, what's wrong? How do we fix it?
To the I don't want to sayluxury, but there's no glaring.
Oh my gosh, if they don'tget a dominant player, they have no
chance. They're not at that stage. And it changed in a year.
Pretty fascinating turnaround, yet it is, and it took the you know,
the Deshaun Watson trade helped a lot, but they also made some good moves,

(05:19):
not just you know, with thefirst round picks, but later picks.
They've hit on some third rounders likeChristian Harris and Tank Dale, So
that's good drafting by I think Cassario. And in New England they always talked
about whose ticks are these? Well, Bill Belichick's picks for the most part,

(05:42):
so we're seeing some of his evaluationability and the ability to work the
board, like eight trades last year. So no no trades yet this year,
but probably coming. Probably something's happeningwhere he may maneuver to get certain
players you know that he covets morethan others. So I think he's done

(06:05):
a nice job. And I thinkit's also a lot of getting players or
in Demiko Ryan's vision, like whatdoes Demiko want? But like any guy
that drafts players not always going tohit. You know, Davis Mills was
his first pick, but his secondpick he ever made was Nico Collins and

(06:28):
a lot of those guys, they'vebeen trade ups. Nico Collins. Oh,
look at how they got tanked lor juice scrugs or you know,
there are a lot of This isbecause of trades. So he's good at
trades, and that's good. That'sthe modern GM. That's what you want
to be the architect of your roster. Aaron, I'm thinking, you know,

(06:49):
you and I have had a millionconversations. I'm sure you have similar
feelings to this. But if ifthey're different, I'm sure I'm curious.
I tell people all the time thatyou expect your first round to hit everybody
does you expect? That's why hedrafting there, And because you don't have
a first rounder this year, maybeit didn't feel as sexy, But make
no mistake, your team is builtfrom here to the fifth or sixth round.

(07:12):
This is the meat and potatoes ofeverybody. Your star's got to hit.
We know that quarterback, but here'snow a Nico Collins. This is
where you build it. The secondround, hitting in a guy who could
have made it in the first one, a fifth rounder who ends up starting
in year three because he ran downon special teams. And did his thing.
I just think that because it's notsexy, there's still got to be

(07:33):
a sense of excitement here because thesethree picks today and the next then the
rest of the rounds tomorrow are hugelyimportant for the focus for this team.
They have a real opportunity to addsome future starters, whether they're starting in
September, you know, maybe notbecause of the depth you know or mentioned

(07:55):
I look at these picks today isa big deal and it's going to be
an important day in Texans history asthey go forward sean because if they hit
on these guys, then that's whatleads to you know, for example,
you know, like the Tank Delltype of Christian Harris guys and the building

(08:16):
blocks and you know I mentioned themand are those you know, among their
top five guys? No, butare they in the top twelve fifteen players
on the team. And that's whatyou need. You have to have players
like that. If you don't,eventually you're a depleted roster or you're not

(08:37):
competitive enough. So really, thisis when the GM earns his money.
You know, they have no Whenthey signed Nick to leave New England,
it was a big time general managercontract that they did, and now you
know, this is when you kindof really benefit from that. And you

(09:01):
know, for for Nick, youknow, showing his drafting chops as he
has so far, so he's donea lot of things well, and I
think objectively anyone could see that,it'd be hard to knock him for a
whole bunch of oh, well theymissed on this player. I mean,

(09:24):
you know, I haven't seen alot of legitimate second guests and those things
that they're doing. I think it'sit's improving. And you mentioned, you
know where you don't have so manyplayers when you head into the draft,
we have obvious needs. Well theydid have obvious needs in the past.
Ye it wasn't as obvious this year. And this is the first time I
could say that about the Texans ina long time. You know, usually

(09:46):
something kind of glaring. You know, I covered Baltimore for fifteen years.
That was always Ozzie Knewsom's goal wasto head into the draft with some kind
of flexibility to really truly be bestplayer available, and I think they're close
to that right now where they canbe the BPA in how they go the

(10:07):
rest of the draft. If theydid something that positioned it wasn't necessarily look
like front burners because they like theplayer, you know, like whether that's
a linebacker. You know, AndrewCooper and Peyton Wilson are still out there.
Most of whom visited excell those linebackersthat you could find a spot for
them too. Next to Christian Harrison, Alvis Alshai here, how is the

(10:31):
final question? How will fans befeeling at the end of today? A
prediction. I think they'll be happybecause I think there's going to be at
least one to two guys that they'llbe excited about, feeling like maybe they
have a chance to compete for astarting job, you know, pretty much

(10:54):
right away. I think there's goingto be an opportunity where they can create
comp petition at the number two cornerposition and for the future you find a
starter and defensive tackle, line backer. I think those spots that might be
where they're going. Uh wouldn't evenrule out a tight end said maybe one,

(11:20):
and so we're thinking, like weel, yeah, ideally round three is
when you're doing that with him,but they could use a guy that could
block, and also CJ. Stroudand him are friends. It would it
would be a nice, nice selection, but we'll see out falls. They're
not the only team that has prettygood grade on Kate Stover and also getting

(11:41):
down in a three point stance andplaying twelve personnel inline blocking and twenty two
that this is what they want todo. They want to apply for physicality.
Yep, no doubt about each givesus something. They don't have a
hopeful include for Ronald Deans as now. The injury said have sidelined him a
lot, but different from Dalton,Schultz, Brev and Jordan yep. And

(12:05):
he would go well with those guys. Sounds great, awesome stuff. Brother.
We appreciate your insight and it's amazinghow this has turned in just a
year, you know, and I'vebeen talking through the difficult times and we
appreciate you. Have a great weekendand enjoy covering this draft today and we'll
talk to you soon. Thank you. Appreciate. That's Aaron Wilson. We'll
come back and discuss so think aboutyou want to talk about quantum leaps.

(12:26):
It's been made here, the comfortabilityof this team, but they're doing it
still on edge. We'll discuss ithere in the next hour and fifteen minutes.
