friend shown Salisbury, Ryan Lima,go Lobos. This is the Sewan Salisbury
show. Good morning, what you'redoing? Call the mayor, stop the
(00:26):
presses, tell him to reserve aspot on Louisiana Street. Block it off
for early November. World Series isback on. I thought, didn't you
say two days ago? World Seriesoff? Till I did? I did?
Yeah, So you go today thatguy. Look, they've already won
the series. That guy they gofor this week today. It's an afternoon
(00:46):
game. It's a one ten start. John John John Whittmeyer, I call
it John Jacob Jigilheimer Schmidt. Ithink that's his name. Hey, yeah,
John Wittmeyer, tell him johnn Ay. Block off Louisiana Street. Early
November. World Series back ons wona series. It's on like what Donkey
(01:07):
Kong? Thank you and good night? Are the kids still saying that TRIPLEI
it's on like Donkey Kong? Orthe adults say, are like the adults
that think it's cool, but it'snot really cool anymore saying it is that
the one? Yeah, that's theone. Got you got you? Did
you ever hear that saying tripley yes, yeah, of course. Okay,
did you play Donkey Kong as akid, Yes, of course. Nintendo
(01:29):
sixty four. My older brother hadone. Oh yeah yeah. Haven't heard
in Nintendo sixty four in a while, man, Yeah, Sean probably had
one of those in like his escaladetruck back in the day. Facts and
don't kid yourself what an escalator Atthat point in time, it was a
custom suburban. They had three youngkids. Yeah, TV's built into the
headrest. Come on, dude,I was on it like a shriner on
(01:49):
a ho shriner on a hoe.Yeah. You know the old school Shriners
that hope them. They go tothe convention and host come there and they
got to eat too. You knowwhat I'm saying. Don't hate this.
Don't hate the dudes. The fella'sput it together with their head. Think
about the flintstones. Okay, youknow when they go there, they had
bedrock the play Hey, Willman,Betty aren't the only ones that think that
(02:10):
they're hot? Okay, who's hotter, Wilmer or Betty? Oh man,
you know I was gonna ask youthe same question. Wilmer, not Wilmer,
Wilma. This is Wilmer Valderrama.Okay, Wilma or Betty. I'm
gonna have to think I'm hotter.I don't know, man, Wilma.
(02:30):
Wilma's what a redhead? Right?And Betty's the little brunette we're doing,
man, talking about characters, I'mgonna go Betty. You're going, Betty?
Yeah? Yeah, I think Ithink some are too most are.
I think you're going, Betty.Do you know who doesn't know who the
Flintstones is? Chris Navier TRIPLEI doeshe not know who? I don't think
(02:53):
he knows who the flint Stones are. I ask him if he's ever seen
the Flintstones cartoon? Tripley more time? Do you know who the Flintstones are?
Oh? Yeah, come on now, just making sure that people are
still in tune with the stones.Do you think they ever got stoned?
Yeah? Back in the day inBedrock, you know, when when flint
Fred was mad and Barney needed himto mellow out. I think that ever
(03:14):
happened. Yeah yeah, why not? Like that? Gummies in the in
the prehistoric days for sure had mushrooms. For sure, shroomed it up a
little bit. Go for a vitaminright now? Six oh, four of
them one agimin. So what doyou want to know about Javier? Well,
yeah, Tommy John Christiannavier headed touh EDIT to get surgery tomorrow,
(03:37):
and then jose Or Keti is stillseeking his second opinion, but both are
likely headed well, not likely.Christiannavier is getting Tommy John surgery tomorrow.
Jose Er Kitty likely headed to it. If he doesn't get it, he's
still gonna be out till next year, exactly. I don't think people will
understand and realize what this is gonnado for this pitching rotation throughout the rest
(04:00):
of the sea. You know whatpeople are doing. They are counting on
Garcia and mccullors, and I'm notsure you should Garcia. Maybe yeah,
mccolors. If you do, it'sgonna be later. So I got a
couple questions for Dana Brown on thepitching staff that I'll fire at him today.
We'll see, do we get anycalls today? Do we get any
(04:25):
calls today on going and trying toget Trevor Bauer? Probably now that I
just put it out there in theuniversity threw it out there, of course,
and there'll be more than one. This is gonna like the ramifications of
Christian Aaveer and jose Ara Ketty beingout for the rest of the year and
then all of next year as well, or a good majority of it.
(04:47):
Jose Ara Ketty might easily have thrownhis last pitch as an Astro. It's
a year injury, yes, andthat takes you into now. Then you
go to go to spring training, your own spring training, which takes you
into July, and then you gotto go get some some starts in the
(05:09):
mind would have meant. So you'reyou're talking what July August, August September
of Now, I don't mean JulyAugust of September of twenty twenty five.
Yep, I uh, this willbe her ERKITTI second correct, yes,
of his career. Yeah, that'stough to overcome. So he's still under
(05:29):
contract with the Astros. He'll goto arbitration this offseason, but he's not
gonna win that, no, Sohe will, I mean hopefully pitch at
some point late next year. Samething with the Christian Hovier this year,
though now you are depending on Imean you look at it. You've got
(05:54):
Justin Verlander fromer Valdez, Renel Blanco, Hunter Brown and Spencer Raghetty, and
then your depth as far as spotsstart guys are the two names that I
can think of are guys that aredown in Triple A right now. Eric
Lower, the guy that they gotfrom Milwaukee a couple of weeks ago that
(06:15):
has not made a start at thebig league level yet. And then Blair
Henley. Remember Blair Henley, guythat got called up, had to drive
in and got absolutely shelled and theysent him right back down. Yeah,
you're not opposed to wearing a Henleyeither, are you? I like,
man, there's a good Henley dog. Yeah, I like a good I'd
like Henley too. Yeah. Sothen you also have to consider that Renel
(06:42):
Blanco and Spencer arag Gedt, you'regonna hit that threshold of pitches and innings
pitch because they've never done this yetin their careers. They have not thrown
full seasons at the big league level. We saw it last year with JP
France and Hunter Brown. Well, here's what you're now. I want you
to just go through each one. You're thinking ahead. Listen, if you
go by what you've seen from HunterBrown lately and who Ragetty looks like he's
(07:08):
got some guts you go by thelast couple starts for fromber. I mean,
there's some ifs, let's put itthat way. There's a lot of
ifs that surround it. You gotyour left hand at the top of the
rotation that can get sideways quickly andcan also go out and throw a two
hitter on your back to back games. You got your forty one year old
I believe he's forty one now,and Justin Verlander, who is forty one
(07:30):
yet phenomenal, but he's still fortyone. And that's a grind, right,
and you're gonna It's not like you'vegot a seven man rotation now,
you don't have that many arms. You got Hunter Brown who's pitched really,
really good as of late. Butas you said, I heard the same
argument when Javier went from the bullpento starter in a full season that he's
(07:51):
getting tired because he's never pitches me. So isn't Hunter Brown got a chance
to face that? Yeah, Okay, he faced it last year. Renew
Blanco's thirty. This is his firstbig I mean where he's been a dominant
pitcher in baseball. You saw himprobably his worst start last time. Right,
If you want to call it thatit was four and two thirds I
think, And so you're counting onhim to continue to pitch that well.
(08:13):
And then Spencer Araghetty, who's rookie. All right, So with that,
if you're gonna where you're gonna go, you're asking these guys to be all
of them to stay healthy, giveyou innings, not wear out the bullpen,
and still pitch fairly lights out.Does that make sense? Yeah?
I mean, do you think aboutthe tall task they're facing, and then
you're relying on two guys that areovercoming arm injuries that haven't even had a
(08:39):
spring training to come back and okay, even if they're healthy, to get
back to where they were and startto get there. Listen, let's say
it takes five starts for Garcina goinglike it has Hunter Brown or six starts.
Now you tell now, guess whatI mean. Araghetty, the one
thing that he's the biggest problem he'shad from for me is he gets a
(09:01):
little too cute and I think he'sgoing to be a really good pitcher to
the point where he walks too manypeople this early in his career. That's
that's been his biggest problem so farand he'll get swinging missus strikeouts as well.
But you can't give people so peoplefree passes. So while there's some
really good stuff to love, there'salso a lot of ifs that's around this.
(09:22):
Your ace is in his forties, your other ace is is what thirty?
Now, who's, like we said, trying to prove that he's an
ace for full season. Has neverbeen that guy. You got a rookie,
a guy who's first a full timestarter. Now who's a rookie,
And they got Hunter Brown, whois finally a full time starter, has
been a bullpen guy as well.Spot started for you and then you got
(09:43):
Fromber So it's a tall task man. And then you're asking your hitters to
rake the entire year. You know, Tucker still out moving the lineup around,
and you got to hope that noneof them miss any time. Yeah,
you also had Spitzer getty wholeft gamelast TI because one hundred and three
point eight mine hour ball went offof his uh cas right, So hopefully
(10:05):
he won't be long and hopefully hewon't even miss half contusion. Right.
He said after the game that he'sfine, but he couldn't get a lot
of velocity behind right, So there'sthere's ifs, it's surround it and so
okay, are they a World seriespitching staff right now? I know,
mm hmm, there's not enough depth. There's not enough depth. Well,
I'm just talking about their starting five. Let's say they give you is this
(10:28):
starting five? Can you run themout? And and do you do?
You trust it? It's a Worldseries pitching staff in a seven game series?
No, five game? Yeah,I would trust one a five game
in a seven game Well, there'sthis staff good enough to go four and
one beat the Philadelphia Phillies four tofour in a seven game series in five.
No, they've the last fifteen orso starts or twelve out of fifteen
(10:54):
or so been pretty pretty solid.Yeah, but the question is do you
sustain it? And you listen, you can't afford another guy to miss too,
you know, get on an il. You can't afford another guy.
They may have to be active atthe deadline, yeah, at that position,
but they have to make sure thatthey're in contention for the division as
(11:15):
well. And if this is ahuge, huge time, it's not gonna
matter. Dude, They're not They'renot selling a soul. Yeah, here
they are selling their buying. Andthat's another question we heard Dana Brown talk
about you can't see a scenario wherethey're selling. Well, how deep are
we getting into the buying thing?Yeah, well we'll go find out.
Yeah, it's you know, it'sit's like my buddy Robert H. Schuler
(11:37):
said, tough times never last, but tough people do. Oh man,
let's start to the show. Thatone came off the tongue, nice and
easy. You know what I mean. Tough times never last, but tough
people do. Never heard that onebefore of you, no, you and
(11:58):
shoe shoe Yeah, Suler, Yeah, Bobby me, Bob, Yeah,
I feel yeah, I just theifs Brian. I think it'll be something
we'll talk about a I guess thequestion for me today, do our listeners
believe as we sit today? Don'ttell me mccullors and Garcia are coming back.
They may, but what if theyhave a setback. I'm talking about,
(12:18):
is we sit today you have nomccullors, no Garcia, no France,
no Erkaty, and no Javier. Is it a world series starting pitching
staff and you can go by whatyou've seen recently over I'm just talking about
in the next hundred games. Canthis team win a division and get you
the World Series with that pitching staff? Those five I don't know they honestly,
(12:41):
I think there's I think you're goingto get both. But step outside
where you live and who you rootfor, and just look at the five
pitchers and tell me if it's aworld series staff, because this isn't a
team just wants to win the division, right, I believe this is if
you don't win a World Series.Okay, they got one game away from
getting the World Series. Do youthink it was a disappointment last year for
them? Yes, not a failure, a disappointment, no disappointment, especially
(13:01):
the way the Game seven went, agreed and losing to the Texas Rangers.
So you know, some teams,if you're the Kansas City Rules, no
disrespect, and you win a division, it's okay, you know, notwithstanding
the World Series they won what sevenyears ago or whatever it was. But
there's team Yankees, don't go Dodgers, don't win a World Series. Guess
(13:22):
what it's a for them, It'sa fail that's a failure, right,
So the disappointment failure thing, Mywhole thing is what do you this team's
thinking World Series, not playoffs,or to get the World Series, got
to make the playoffs. I'm curiousif people believe that this is starting pitching
staff. Forget the hitting. We'llget to that if this starting pitching staff
(13:43):
is a World Series staff right now, as we said, let's continue to
talk about these astros on the brideside. They win a series, they
go for the sweep. Today,we'll discuss last night's performance from the shows
next on Sports Talk seven to eighty. Hey, Sean, here for certa
pro painter sort of with a C, sort of pro painters. Listen.

(15:09):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues on yourRoku. Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety
on any device with our free iHeartRadioapp. And here from you the Astros
Fan seven one three, two,one two five seven ninety. In order
of longest way, Let's start withBilly Billy, good morning, Hey,
(15:31):
good morning guys. Well, I'mthe guy that said on this radio station
that I wasn't worried about the pitching. Uh, Well, so much for
that. Uh And this is nota World Series staff, But quite honestly,
could you say it was a WorldSeries staff? Before those two injuries,
they were struggling, And I meanI thought they were good. I
thought they could get us the Alcsand I thought with the right pit,
(15:54):
well, just like what happened theyhad the Rangers last year. Things happened
that the bats come live. Yourpitching comes a lot, just strong enough
and you can get there. Butnow I know that Dania Brown's gonna come
on the show in a little bit. He's gonna tell you about he wants
to be a buyer and all thisother. But you can't just think about
(16:15):
this year. You've got to thinkabout next year also, because you don't
have those guys next year either. And so if you go out and you
get a couple of rentals this year, can you re sign them for next
year? What does that look like? Are you going to deplete your farm
system even further to make a runthis year that may or may not happen.
(16:36):
There's so many questions that goes intothis. At what time and Sean,
you've been on teams that I knowhave had to make this decision.
But at what point do you say, all right, guys, we're gonna
let it play out, and whateverhappens happens here in twenty twenty four,
and we're not gonna try to lose. Don't don't, don't start thinking that.
But we're not gonna make any bigmoves. We're just gonna make moves
(17:00):
so that week can get through thisseason. At what point do you make
that decision? You know, Billy, I think that's a hell of a
point. Thanks for callback, AndI guess I also think, Billy,
what you're saying too is are theygoing all in? Because you're exactly right.
If Orkidi and Hovier both have surgery, you won't see them till late
next year. If you're lucky,July August, and I think July would
(17:22):
be awfully ambitious. You're probably lookingmore like August September. I would think
so. And you're still rolling throughthis, and you're right. Was it
a good pitching staff? Yeah, when they were healthy, but they had
their struggles. Is it a goodpitching staff? Yeah, when they're all
going good. But you can't askthose ifs for twenty five starts for all
these guys, you just can't.I mean there's a certain guy. I
mean, hell Verlander struggled in hislast one, but he'll he'll come back
(17:45):
because he always does. He's agreat adjuster and adapts to what you know
the situation. So, Billy,I don't know. I personally, I
don't even know if they're going togo all in, meaning makes some monster
change on the staff, even ifthey were three games out of first place,
because what are you giving up toget that guy? And you got
a sure it's not a rental,because you're right, Billy, the rental
(18:07):
part of it is, well,if you're in him now, we're right
back to square one with two guysthat are gone. And well then people
say, well, then mccullor's andGarcia back fully healthy, And maybe that's
the case. So twenty twenty four, you're down four including France right now,
but you're down four in twenty twentyfive. You may be down two
if those other two are healthy, but both would be coming off arm injuries
(18:27):
and only getting a small sample sizeat the end of this year or the
second half of this year, sothere is a lot to data. Brown's
got his hands full, and nowyou're keeping a close watch on not only
the pitching staff, but okay,do we go on a winning streak and
close this gap to get it?You know, to four games or three
games within legitimate striking distance, andyou know it can change in a hurry.
(18:49):
So I think I don't think they'regoing to stand pat. I think
they'll make a move because I almostfeel we're in the time of sports life
where if you don't make a move, people think you're surrendering, right,
you know what I mean? Ido, because you know what, you
think the Yankees will make a move. Now Garrett Cole was had a good
start on his rehab. The Yankeesor the Dodgers would make a move.
(19:12):
I believe they would if they feltlike they needed one more body, don't
you. I think so, andso I think that we expect the Asker
and the Phillies as well. Ithink the Askers are one of those groups.
The question is, when was thelast time they made that, oh
my gosh, move granky if thatif we would consider that one for five
guys, that's a big that's abig move, right, Yeah, I
talk about where you went and gotthe I'm not not Graveman, not that
(19:34):
group. I'm talking about the groupwhere you got a guy Verlander was the
one before that you went and gota world series? Will you approach it
that way? The question is who'sout there that you could get and if
you're going to do it, whatare you willing to give up? Now?
If I'm a GM, I'll behonest with you, especially a GM
that's in a second year. You'reworking through this, I don't know.
(19:56):
If they don't get to the ifthey don't get to the playoffs, would
Jim Crane look into that role again? So if you're I don't know,
is data? I mean, whetherit was Dana Brown, Jim James click,
It doesn't matter. How secure isthe front office right now? And
we like Dana Brown. It comeson every I think. I'd like to
(20:17):
think it's secure. But if youdon't, then you know the questions are
going to be asked. They alwaysare in every organization, especially for this
one. So if you don't getto where you want to go and you
didn't make a move, then whatBut if you make a move, guess
who's got to prove the move? The owner? So that the fine line
of you bear the burden. Yetthe owner's got to approve that. If
you wanted to go out and grabVlad Guerrero in the hitting side, or
(20:38):
go out and get a front linestarting pitcher, that's not a rental.
It's going to cost you, andthat means you're going to lose one of
those good prospects or two and maybean everyday type player or oppress one of
those guys. As you're gonna haveto surrender something, you're gonna have to
give up one of the outfielders.I would agree, it's not just going
to be one. If you're talkingabout now, I'm not talking about a
(20:59):
fifth start. I'm talking about aa guy who on some teams would be
the second or third star. What'sthat move look like? So I don't
know, but Billy makes a goodpoint. I think you'll see moves,
but I don't know what they're willingto give up. And they may say
we're good enough. Now this teamhas had a propensity to say, other
than a few small moves, thisroster's good enough to to stabilize and do
(21:22):
their thing. But also there wasthere was a need for an innings eater
in this rotation. Like I'm notsaying I'm not saying Jake Odorizzi, but
a guy like him that'll come inthrow five six innings for you every time
out. He may pitch well, but he's gonna eat up innings any rotation,
quite like a JP France too, like a Loren When he was available,
(21:44):
you could have got him on thecheap. Now Here you are needing
that innings eater, and you're gonnahave to give up one of your big
league guys. And why would Igive the Astros any leeway if if at
the trade deadline you're a bit desperate, I'm gonna make you be more desperate,
because, yeah, your team's toogood for me to enhance your roster
anymore, even if you're not inthe same league, I meaning then you
(22:06):
know you're in the National League andyou wouldn't see him tell a World Series
in the postseason. But I justDana Brown's got some These injuries have made
his of maneuvering and navigating his gigwith Jim Crane, pretty Jack Back well
else has decisions right, So Ithink this next thirty days has a lot
(22:29):
to do with where they're because youdon't just make the decision on July eighteenth.
This is a decision they're thinking aboutnow, and maybe they're even inquiring
now. I would be, ofcourse, so but with a frontline starter
now that splash move would be you'regoing and got Vlad Guerrero and also grabbed
onto a front a number three kindof starting pitcher. Now it's like,
(22:52):
oh, but but with that, you're depleting some stuff. Now you're gonna
have to give up something pretty goodor for the future. But Billy hits
it. It's not just twenty twentyfour, it's twenty twenty five. But
I think you get the well,we lost to we gain two if Garcian
mccullor's, but the history of mcculor'sstill got to make you nervous about moving
forward about his the injury stuff.I would not that he's not grinding,
(23:15):
but it's it's a concern. Mccullor'sprobably won't even be back until mid September.
Luis Garcia, I think has hasbeen doing well with his rehab.
He's ahead of his rehab. He'salready thrown live b PAP. He's thrown
in the nineties, right. StevesMark sat it on Monday that there's popping
his velocity, right, So Iwould expect him back mid July, late
July, maybe even before. What'swhen's the man? Yeah, probably mid
(23:38):
to late July. Right. Well, then I would say McCulloch is,
then you're going to wait till afterthe trade deadline or for sure after the
All Stars trad drink. Yeah,I personally the IFFs on that's just I
don't like a lot of ifs,and there's some myfs. But the injury,
the ifs or you can't control becausethe injury thing, you can't control
that, No, you can't.So we'll see seven one three, two
(24:00):
one two five, seven ninety. We'll get to all of your calls next
as we continue to talk about theastros and the injuries. That's next on
Sportstalks seven ninety classically Chevy Sugarland, classically Chevy Highway six zero percent on all
new twenty twenty three and twenty twentyfour Silverado, fifteen hundreds, four thousand

(25:08):

drive. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Star lucky to have this show,
aren't we with the keeps? Everybody? Yeah, I'm with seven one three,
two two, five seven Night's comeback out to the phone lines,
full board. Let's be chrisp Here, Tripley will hang up on you.
(25:32):
Holly good morning, put it onbecause he's the man, dude, he
runs the show. Holly, goodmorning, welcome in, Good morning,
guys. How's it going good Wednesday? Hump Day, Happy Day. This
is kind of a follow up onthe previous, uh previous question on the
pitching staff man. It's really gotme worried losing both ar Katie and Christians.
(25:53):
My question is, uh, notonly is who's available in our minors?
Y'all want to touch that earlier Imissed first part of the show.
But even if we were to goout there to try to get somebody,
a who is out there that alow level team would be sellers? And
who? Would you know what somebodysay, the White Sox, the Rockies,
(26:14):
what what pictures do they have?Do you guys think what maybe they
would want to get rid of.I think it would be expensive for us
to give up to get somebody.I think we're gonna have to give up
one of our outfielders. I wouldn'tgive up love Lebrido. I might have
to say goodbye to Chaz, Idon't know. And then my second question,
and this is coming maybe you wantto have to stand up around as
we haven't had any updates or Ihaven't personally seen any updates on JP France.
(26:40):
I want was wondering if you guyssew anything about him and JP France.
Holly is still not throwing. Ohnot good. Yeah, he gave
Danny Brown gave the updates on Sunday. He is still not throwing for us.
Willy's starting to throw a little bitmore. But or anything, I
mean, do we know it's goingto Uh? Last I saw it was,
(27:03):
uh, what is what's the war? They always use, not discomfort,
but what's the or soreness? Yeah, soreness something something along those.
Yeah, God had surgery and Idon't know if it's scheduled, but it
feels like the rest and rehab thingis on his mind. But that's a
long time. I mean it's beena minute now, Yeah, something with
his shoulder. Yeah, so it'snot right there. I just I just
(27:23):
feel like we haven't heard, wehaven't got the updates on him, like
we get that base on some ofthe other guys, and I just feel
like that's weird. But good point, really really worried about the pitching situation.
I just don't know what we're gonnado about it. Thanks guys,
have a good day as well.Holly, thank you, thank you.
And we will we will find out. We'll look for the and we also
are going to try to find outjust we had our caller the other day
(27:45):
was saying, could you guys look, because that takes a minute to find
the post. Remember he said, who hits behind? Was it Tucker?
Remember he'd asked, Remember we hadour callers say, do some metrics on
the lineup when what they're hitting incertain like when somebody sitting behind was it
behind Tucker or Alvarez? That theprotection part of it? He said,
you know, do the metrics. You know, I can't remember what the
(28:07):
day it was was two days ago, I think, So we said we
look. He said, you couldfind it on what do you call that?
Oh baseball? Right, So wehaven't forgot about that. Yeah,
it was Rob. Yeah, andso but with Holly and looking at you
know in Colorado or somebody out therethat's not going to be a player in
the postseason that they may sell orthe White Sox, where do you go
(28:27):
get one of those pitchers who's available. Well, we'll do a little due
diligence on that as well. Ihaven't thought much about the guy that would
be available right of you, becauseyou may get somebody who's a good team
in the past, that's got goodplayers that's just struggling now and says,
you know, contractualize, let's wegot to dump this. I don't know.
I mean, guys show up allthe time, and you know,
(28:48):
all of a sudden you'll say thatguy's not available, and somebody will make
a guy available. So Holly, great point. And I think we're all
concerned. I know I If you'renot, then maybe I'm watching a different
game. I love what they've donerecently, but over another hundred games,
you have to have some ifs inyour mind of is it a World series?
Staff? And are you now goingto switch the burden to you?
You bats better stay alive and wellthe whole time. Yeah, live well
(29:12):
and healthy, no question about it. Seven one three, two, one
two five seveninety Brad, what's goingon? Buddy? What's up? Guys?
I like the bower, the bower, break him bower. The only
thing I have a little There's twothings the ped use and is there still
a rift between him and Alex Regman, I mean back in the day there,
I know, time, hells wounds, professionalism, stuff like that.
(29:34):
And can did you give me anupdate on Lewis Carcia yet? Uh?
So, Brad, So Luis Garciajust a couple of days ago through a
live VP, two astros hitter atmine a Park, velocity up in the
nineties. Uh he pitched well,so he's uh going to continue to live
VP and then he could be headedout for a rehab stint here pretty pretty
quick, I would I would assumeSteve Sparks said, did his pop and
(29:57):
his his pitching in the way theball was moving looked better to him than
it did before Garcia got hurt, and so yeah, So, I mean,
and you know, Steve's naked eyespretty solid. I mean you see
that, so and I And Stevedoesn't usually speak hyperbolic stuff. So the
bo he just said with the nakedeye and sitting there watching it and seeing
(30:18):
him live, it looked that itlooked he looked like he was getting closer,
but also that there was some lifeon that on the fastball and the
way he was pitching so that that'ssomething to look forward to. And Sean
with you too early as far asa pitching prospect right now, a lot
(30:38):
of this stuff brow we let's seehe said. He said, it's still
early, you're gonna it, was, Brad, go ahead, and with
Peter you said it's still wide open. There's yeah, it's a bummer,
but I think I got the gistof it. I speak, I speak
robot good and I do the robotto know that, okay, but I
(31:00):
I you know early now to decidewhere you're going, and every listen,
within a month, so much canhappen, not only with your team,
but some team like I said thatall of a sudden had high hopes and
you're like, we're not gonna golet's move this guy. But when you
move a guy that's a frontline starter, you're gonna they're yeah, giving him
away. This isn't the free agentperiod. So Brad's right, and it
(31:22):
may be early, but you haveto start thinking about it. And there's
no nothing that tells you got towait till the deadline day. If you
like something, you get somebody says, you know we're gonna move early,
jump in. I don't know howheavy the movement will be. But you
can't tell me all's perfect with thepitching staff both for you just can't say,
oh, we're gonna be fine. You know what, it'll you know
what, finalill get you a triphome before the playoffs. Yeah, it's
(31:45):
got to be more than fine.Yeah, there's got to be concerned.
I say we are fine as hell, different different, fine, right,
yeah, yeah, Holly's Holly's rightthough, she should be concerned. And
every one of our guys even thatwe're not convincing the staff's going to be
fine if you're being honest. Isit a World Series staff today? No?
(32:05):
And isn't that the goal? Yeah? And the longevity of this season
and pitch limits are not pitch limits, but the thresholds of Renel Blanco and
Spencer Roghetty is gonna come into question, plus long term health of of everyone
forout throughout the rest of the seasonseven seven ninety uh will continue to take
your calls. Got another lit upphone board, fellas, everybody, it's
(32:28):

(34:20):
Show. Uh forty five seconds toabout a minute to try to get through
everybody. Andrew, good morning, good morning. Well they finally won a
series playing the parade. Now,Andrew, if I'm if I'm a GM
from another team, I got someprospects I got my eye on, like
(34:42):
I hope they would never consider givingup low braffito. But I'm I guess
if you're desperate. But I wouldhave my eyes on Shay Witcom. He
looks like he could be coming downthe pipeline the way he's playing. Uh.
And then, uh, I dohave a question about the Uh So,
(35:04):
when Dubon went up for the homerun last night, what's the difference
between that one not being called interferenceand the one in two thousand and eight?
Did you say twenty eighteen, likethe one in the against the Red
Sox? Yeah? Yeah, Wellthat Joe West is the difference on that
one. Andrew appreciate the call.Uh? Yeah, you had a cowboy.
(35:25):
Joe West sucked at his job towardsthe end of his career. See
if you say that to him onthe field, he'd run you. Mookie
Betts went up for that catch andit was like a row or two deep,
and he called interference on it andtook the home run away from Hosel
to eight. Yep, that's notthe right call last night, damn.
(35:46):
Near the same play. Maybe justa little bit shot. I don't know,
man, It's just it's it's it'spretty simple. Don't interfere with plays
and stop doing the way if youdon't want, if you don't want,
I know the people are anxious tocatch a ball, but if it's catch
(36:07):
a bowl, yeah, I understandpeople want that ball, but I also
know that if you don't want controversyand don't want to deal with umpires and
some of their decisions, then waitabout second. Yeah yeah, so Joe
West, Yeah, now that thinkabout it. Yeah, Joe West gave
(36:27):
the Red Sox a break last night. They didn't give the Astros a break.
That's right. So it just here. I put it in an air
quotes judgment call. I don't knowhow review doesn't fix it. I don't
either. That's a good call. Why do we have it? I have
no idea. I don't know howreview doesn't fix it. It really is
not that hard. We've complicated asystem that should be a molehill, not
(36:50):
a mountain. Yeah, it's amountain for sure, no doubt. Ronnie,
Good morning, Good morning guys.I agree with what Billy said way
earlier, and easy to paraphrase itby saying the old quote that Darryl Royle
gave Sometimes you got to dance withwho brung you, yep, And that's
not bad, you know, you'renot going to win the World Series every
(37:10):
year. You're not going to winevery game. And it doesn't mean that
the team is bad. It doesn'tmean that the organization is bad. Sometimes
misfortune has a lot to do withit. A couple of guys and the
miners that i'm I've heard about someand I don't keep up with them as
much as I did a couple ofyears ago. What's the guy miss Ale
(37:31):
Tamaris is pitching pretty well for Sugarland? Gordon Colton. Gordon is a lefty.
I think that's doing pretty well. And there was a guy on Corpus,
another Brown, Aaron Brown, whowas doing pretty well. I have
no statistics on them, so Brian, you may just you know, be
able to find them. And aquestion overlying question I have over all of
(37:53):
this, what percentage of pitchers whohave pitched in the majors or organizationally for
all of these teams undergo major surgery, major rehab time, and do the
Astros have more pictures than anybody elsegoing through this? And if that's the
(38:14):
case, then something is wrong withour pitching development and pitching usage. Ronnie.
I was thinking about that last night. I was and quite frankly,
when I woke up this morning andthink about, Okay, some of the
conversations that we would have, whyis it happening so rapidly in baseball?
I can think back. You guysremember when it was rotator cuffs that were
(38:36):
always the problem. Yeah, thatthat's not really right. It would just
kind of like the VID it justwent away. Was Fauci in charge of
that too? Oh? Sorry?Anyway, what we're gonna have a you
know we're gonna do. We're gonnahave a Fauci segment every day and you
know what we're gonna call it.Just lie to our listeners. Just just
(38:58):
lie to our listeners for five minutesand like it's real. And by the
way, we're going to tell youstay six feet away from each other.
Anyway, What a fraud, whata what a trick, what a what
a life ruiner? Oh anyway,I digress and hang up. We get
your date? Is I was thinking, and Ronnie's Ronnie and Billy was right
(39:19):
too, that sometimes you do gotto dance with what brung you. The
question is you got to make surethe dance fits in your not cabbage patching
when you're supposed to be grittyon.Does that make sense? No, No,
I'm not, but you get mypoint of Sometimes you just do because
you aren't gonna win it every year. Yet this team feels like they're talented
enough to win it every year. And I don't than they are, but
there's all those ifs and injuries thatcoming to play, but the rotator.
(39:42):
So when it comes to that,I think, and I did, Billy.
I was thinking about that this morningand last night about why is it
Is it spin rate is damaging it? Or is it vlo that's damaging It's
because it surely can't be overworked. And too many innings, because I'm going
to tell you right now, toomany innings. If one hundred and seventy
(40:05):
five innings is too many innings orone hundred and fifty innings is too many
innings, then I'm not watching theThen baseball isn't for isn't for the the
uh yes? And the combination ofboth trying to throw it as hard as
you can and then trying to spendit as much as you can correct And
I don't know if this is ifwe just have more here, You've got
(40:28):
to be careful to say, well, it's a pitching or the development.
But you would think as a developedpitcher, a developed body that's spin red,
you'd be a fourteen year old spinyou think, okay, and you
wonder what time of development, whatpart of development is? Should that not
damage you as much? But thenagain, when you're constantly trying to increase
(40:50):
spin rate and velocity, it can'thelp have strain on your arm. But
it sure isn't for over usage becauseguess what, we don't over use pictures
anymore. Period when it comes tostarting pitchers. Give me five innings and
you're a hero. Yeah. Soto answer the question, I don't know
if are we more susceptible than anywhereelse? Seems like it. Spin rate's
(41:12):
been a top notch priority here, right, Yeah, don't know. And
then it's an interesting point by ohand and something that I guess you can
dive into, but I don't knowthe reason, because you don't. You
always your little leary to blame iton a pitching coach or blame it on
a training staff. Right. Yeah. We heard that same message out of
the New York Mets for a whatI remember when they kept going through it
(41:32):
and going through a piece said wegot to replace that guy that pitch because
on him, well is it?Don't know? You know what they say
about spinning. Here we go.Life's a will of fortune and it's my
chance to spin it. Baby whosaid that? It's say Jack, No,
it's one of my other good buddies. Tupac shakur oh Po said it.
Yes? Did he say it acouple of weeks ago? He did?

break down some routes. Maybe JohnMetchi looking more explosive, Stefan Diggs,
Tank Dell, Nico Collins. Isaw Davis Mills, big play, Dave
(44:06):
making it, making it rain outthere, threaten the needles, see a
little highlights. Yeah, Mills, how does that yell at across the field?
What did you say, Mills?A little three step with the hitch?
Tell him this? This is whatThis is what Deshaun Watson would have
told Davis Mills. That's about Mills. A I need another towel. I
(44:30):
need a towel, hand towel,A really small what's wrong with you?
Man? How would you tell telltelling Millsy you need a three step with
the resets, Millsy, three stepdropping the heads. Here we go on
two on two. That's how wouldbe on the hop the you gotta be
(44:52):
on on the line. Let's goRiverside, river Side would they say,
Yeah, Bes flipped the flip flipflipp it, flip the script you're throwing,
Pat and go to the right, riverside river side, flip to the
left. All the football terms. Can't wait to break that down? Oh
yeah, I mean we just did. But he doesn't love a little mandatory.
Many can't break down, you knowwhat I mean? They all should
(45:13):
be mandatory. Make them all showup all the time. Yeah, why
not? Ain't that hard? Stuckto dustin, Dustin, We appreciate you
holding. What's going on? Goodmorning guys. Hey, yeah, I
just want to talk about all thesegosh dang it over the last couple of
years and uh getting an under we'reseeing Wow, I'm not using it,
triple can you put? Can yougrab him real quick? It's sounded like
(45:34):
a robot on our end. Let'stry Steve, Steve, welcome in.
Good morning, gentlemen. Hey.You know, I think that Major League
Baseball has created this problem with withhis pictures. Uh, a lot of
pictures going down due to the factthat this pitching clock. What I don't
understand is how does a batter who'swho swings the bat gets a time out
(45:55):
in between his bat but a picturedoesn't get a time. You would think
it would be the other way around. But I say that to say this,
I I've been watching a lot ofI watch a lot of baseball,
and if you notice, the pitchcounts on these pitchers are up tremendously as
compared to about three to four orfive years ago. I mean a lot
(46:17):
of these guys during the third inningand they're already at forty fifty sixty pitches.
And I think a lot of itis just fatigue armware. And the
reason we're in this position is becauseof just just what I'm saying is they
I think it's just too much pitching, too fast. But my other point
(46:38):
is is I think Dana Brown haskind of put him. I put everything
that's happening right now on Dana Brown. And I say that because we had
a chance to get Snell, andwe had a chance to get I believe
it was Montgomery that was available, and we didn't go after either one of
them. All we did and wejust didn't have the we didn't have the
money. But I don't understand whywe pay ninety five thousand dollars ninety five
(47:00):
million to a guy that comes inand pitches maybe one inning. I mean,
I would much rather have a guythat's that's eating up innings at the
front of the front of the lineinstead of at the back of the line.
And let me ask you this,Steve, what what if what if
Dana And I don't know the answer, I'm just just a little devil's advocate.
(47:21):
What if Dana Brown said he wantedBlake Snell and Jim Crane said,
I'm not paying that money after wepaid Josh Hater, Well, then you
know what, Then you go andyou find a maybe a pitcher that not
quite to the Snells. We needpeople that can eat up innings, right,
Okay, So why are you goingto pay ninety five million dollars to
(47:42):
a guy that's going to throw maybetwo innings? He's been doing obviously,
he's been doing much better, butit's just not just not worth it.
I mean mc kuhler's that guy's beenhurt for what four years now. I
mean there's guys here that that probablyare not going to be coming back,
and when they do, it's gonnabe in the future. It's gonna be
twenty five, twenty six. SoI mean, right now is what we're
(48:07):
worried about. But I think wehad opportunities to get to get pictures and
and we didn't do it. Youknow, to me, it's just it
just it's kind of insane that thatyou know, of course, Dana Brown's
gonna come on and you know,well, we're we're we're we're waiting and
we're hoping and blah blah blah.Weh hey wait and hope isn't gonna get
you to the playoffs. And Idoubt very seriously if this team does get
(48:29):
make it to the playoffs under thecircumstances. I mean, look at Verlanders.
We've only got Verlander from maybe thisyear. Next year, who's gonna
be our ace to come in andtake Verlander's place? Basically, it's not
gonna be failed it. I mean, uh from Bert, Yeah, he's
already he's already proved that he's nota he's not a frontline pitcher. He's
(48:50):
he's just a good picture. Youthrow in there and I'll hang up and
listen. Guys. Thanks to yourpoint about pitching. I mean, I
don't know how much. And maybeit's even an extra five seconds gives you
a little more. Take a deepbreath, between pitches. How much that
has to do with arm injuries. You know that. I think they're trying
to find out how that factors in. It's a good point by you,
(49:12):
and to your point, three innings, seventy five pitches the Cardinals starting pitcher
did I'm watching he had a fortyplus inning in the third inning. He
threw forty plus pitches in the thirdinning. Yeah, Now, part of
that is throw strikes and get peopleout and then people fouling them off.
But I don't know how often doyou see a forty pitch inning where a
(49:34):
team says, where's your You're yeah, and it's the third inning, Dude,
you're that And I you know whatI respected about that is the manager's
like, you're gonna gut this out, dog, You're getting out of this.
Another thing that Ronnie mentioned before hegets the stake out is he blamed
it not Ronnie. I'm sorry,Steve, how he's blaming it on Dana
(49:55):
Brown. I think there's also somethingthat has to be made out that it's
not just him making decisions. Theyhave like a it's almost like a GM
by committee. Then it goes backinto the question that we've asked each other
last couple of weeks. Too manychefs in the kitchen? How many you
(50:15):
know? How many guys are actuallymaking the decision? Is it Dana Brown?
Here's the thing that you know? There's Reggie Jackson? Where's bagwell at
too? I always talk about planningyour work and work your plan right and
know the role. Do we knowexactly who pulls the strengths for the or
do I mean who's the final decisionon when it comes to money and wanting
(50:36):
it? And we've heard gms andthe bad James Click used to always come
on and talk about Jim Crane pitching, pitching and more pitching. We've heard
that before. The question I I, and I think it's Dana. It
should be the GM. But inthe pecking order, did Dana make decisions
the hater and not getting a JordanMontgomery? Yeah? Or was it?
(50:58):
Is it a Are we in aconference room where four dudes or that we
don't know who the chef is butwe know that there's four of them,
right? I don't And like Isaid to me, when you hire a
GM, the GM should be makingthe decisions and you ride with that and
if it was the right decision, you ride with it. If it wasn't,
then you then you reevaluate, justlike you do players. Yeah,
I don't know. I do knowthis. I can't blame all the things.
(51:20):
And I understand where Steve's frustration is. I can't blame all the failure.
If we're going to blame the failureon him, guess what we have
to do? Give him all thecredit when they have success. Right,
If you're gonna if we're gonna goonce one way down the street and all
of a sudden, Hunter B orlet's say they stuck with whoever it is,
and all of a sudden, abray you it's four hundred and HiT's
(51:44):
twenty five home runs the second halfof the season. Well, that happens,
and I'm going to I'm going tobuy like a million dollars. But
don't you Then if we're gonna say, well, it's Dana Brown's fault for
sticking with him, whose fault isit? Then who gets the praise?
Is it? Dana Brown gets thepraise for sticking with him if he has
success. My point is it's usuallysomewhere in the middle. It's usually never
one guy, right, And Ialways put more on the player than I
(52:05):
do on anybody else because they gotthe ball in their hand. And then,
also, for what it's worth,Blake Snell and Jeordan Montgomery. Blake
Snell's hurt and Jordan Montgomery is atrociousthis season. Neither of them have been
pitching well. So might have dumpeda ton of money into both of those
guys, or at least into oneof them, and the same outcome could
have happened, or it could nothave. But either way, those guys
(52:25):
are not pitching well this season. So take that for what it's worth.
Let's get to the stake out nextright here on Sports Talk seven ninety Men's
Tea Clinic. You can be wellnumber one in the house if you'll go
to Men's TA clinic and draw alittle blood, get tested for low testosterone.
You'll get the answers by the timethe day is up, maybe by
time you leave the building, sothen we can start to normalize it.
(52:46):
Fellas, I don't know why you'dwant to go through twenty twenty four if
you suffered through twenty twenty three ofbrain fog and lack of energy and wondering
how in the hell am I goingto get myself back to where I wanted,
Where Mama's happy at home. I'mhappy at home. I'm not irritable.
Things are rolling good. I gotmy manergy back and I can go
dominate twenty twenty four. If youstill haven't done that, what are you
waiting on? Five convenient locations, great wellness optimization staff, a lot of
(53:10):
different products for you. And ifit's just sexual wellness you want, it's
there. But the great thing aboutMen's Tea Clinic it's full body wellness,
head to toe. There's something foreverything you need. Isn't that a good
thing? Isn't that a good thing? Or do you want to just kind
of wallow through and kind of trudgingthrough twenty twenty four when it could be
something as simple as low testosterone,Pop on in and do it. Let's
(53:31):
normalize it. Get out of lowergear and get back to what you deserve,

you. Hold me. I'll seeWe've got a good connection with you.
Dusting you there? Yes, Sarah, can you hear me still crackling?
Man? Give us a shout rightback and I'll bring you right back on.
(54:47):
Not sure what's going on with thatphone line tripley. I know it's
uh probably on my end. Let'sget out to al Al. What's up?
Good morning guys. Hey Bryan.U while ago you were talking about
the injurase thing that you know inSean asked you know, is there more
of this Tommy John stuff going onthan there used to be? Brian?
(55:10):
I respect your opinions a lot.I know you've played baseball, I know
you coach baseball now and I havea question. Yeah, but when I
coached little league, we worked ongrowing fastballs in a circle chain because it
(55:30):
wasn't hard on your arm, Andwe worked on spotting inside, outside,
up and down ball. And nowand I followed Little League a lot because
I've got a twelve year old grandson, and I'm seeing more and more pitchers
in Little League growing curveball after curveballafter curveball at twelve years old, ten
(55:52):
years old, and I'm wondering, are we putting too much pressure on these
kids arms putting there at that age, you know? And like I said,
I really respect your pig, youknow on this stuff. What do
you just start out of this stufftoo or bela with these kids one hundred
(56:13):
percent. Now I see it everysingle weekend. I see ten eleven twelve
year olds throwing fastball, curveball. And even with some of my fourteen year
old kids, and I got somesome really really really talented players, there's
only a few of my guys thatcan actually throw a change up for a
strike because they don't focus on changeups for whatever reason. Instructors these days
(56:37):
have kids throwing fastball, slider, fastball, curveball. UH. For me
personally, we work two seam, four seam in out change ups and of
course we do sliders. My guysare about to be in high school,
but that's a different story. ButI think pitch counts are out of control
in select baseball these days. Uh. For me, again, from from
my standpoint is I have a strictpitch limit for my guys, especially in
(56:59):
the fall early in the spring.I usually try to keep my guys under
sixty pitches per weekend. We mightmight go up to seventy eighty depending on
how they're doing. It's just it'sit's the usage of arms these days,
and it's in it's three hundred andsixty five days. Al like these kids
are playing year round baseball, Likewe had a There was a massive tournament
(57:22):
of some of the best fourteen yearold teams in the country just a couple
of weekends ago down in Florida. It's called Beasts to the East. They
play that tournament, and then thevery next weekend is a double elimination here
in the in the city of Houston, and then the weekend after that there
were kids flying out to California toplay. That's three weekends in a row
at high level. It's craziness. It's a lot of pitches on a lot
(57:44):
of arms, and that's where itstarts. To me, everyone's trying to
throw as hard as they can,get your spin rate up, get your
recognition early, and they're just playingtoo much and throwing too much on their
arms. That's where it starts.I absolutely agree. An sets twelve and
he's a first basement pitcher. He'sa left hander. And I fortunately my
(58:08):
son, his dad was a highschool and college baseball player, pitcher,
and he was a pitching coach incollege for a couple of years after he
graduated, while he was getting hismasters, and so his yeah, my
grandsaid does not throw a lot ofcurveballs. He throws a fastball, he's
(58:29):
learned the circle change, and heworks on those dominent throws a curveball once
in a while, maybe once ortwice a game, just so you know
he's gotten. But he doesn't.You know. I see these other kids
out there throwing basketball, curveball, basketball curveball, the whole game, and
I just I think it's I thinkit's gonna devastate the big leagues one of
(58:52):
these days. They're not gonna haveany pictures left. So anyway, thank
you, Brian, I appreciate youanswered that thank you, you as well,
you as well. We appreciate thecall. Let's keep it rolling here
on the phone lines and talk todust and dust and there we go.
We got a better connection for you, man, what's on your mind?
Appreciate you calling back, man,Man, y'all got me this time.
(59:14):
Huh yeah, we got you, man. Apologize to that. Hey,
no. So, you know, seeing this trend and arm injury specifically,
like y'all said, with the elbowsover the last couple of years, to
me, you know, it kindof coincides with the with the crackdown on
using you know, sticky substance tohelp you get a grip. Do you
feel like these pitchers are having togrip the ball a little tighter, putting
(59:34):
a little more strain on that forearmgoing through the pitch in motion? Uh,
due to them, you know, cracking down on the on the sticky
stuff on the balls. Do youthink that factors into this at all?
I think the factors in heavily dustin. Garrett Cole was a big, big,
big advocate for instituting some sort ofbaseball that has a better grip on
the baseball. If you're not gonnalet these guys whose spider tacks, rosin
(59:58):
and a mixture of rosin and sunscreenare whatever the case is that MLB should
institute some kind of baseball. Hewas, he was a big advocate for
it. I know a couple otherbig time names, Justin Erlander spoke about
a little bit. Yeah, Ithink that's got something to do with it
as well. I don't think there'sany doubt because we'll just think about in
your own life, when if you'replaying golf and you're sweating in the grip,
what do you do? And it'sworse for you? You start white
(01:00:21):
knuckling it. And while you maynot need Tommy John from gripping a club
to ourt, it does affect yourgame with that that direct pressure just to
grab a baseball and do it yourselfand feel the pressure go up into the
elbow forearm area. And we're alwaysI know with quarterbacks, I'm always teaching
I want I wanted to take thatthat that tension out of the forearm,
(01:00:45):
and you know what you do,You loosen the grip. But if you
loosen the grip in baseball, youlack spin rate. And what happens spin
rate equals home runs. You losejobs. Somebody else replaces you. So
what do you do? Grip harter, spin harder, extra torque before you
know it? And I don't thinkthere's any question it has to affect it
because you have to grip harder. If you can't, you know, grab
(01:01:06):
rosin while you're on you know yougrab it. You can't lick your fingers
on the mat, all these things, and you can't use anything to get
a better grip. And a coldnight or whatever it is, or an
extra sweaty time, There's no doubtthat has a factor in it. There
is no question, No absolutely.Man. I had Tommy John my sophomore
year in college, and I thinkback and it's right around the time I
started tinkering with trying to get moresinc on my fastball, and so I'm
(01:01:27):
putting more pressure on my fingertips andsqueezing the ball a little tighter, and
I think that was a big contributorto that. So and squeezing it tighter
and longer, right, I meanyou're squeezing it and you're trying to find
a grip in the glove, rightam I You know, you think about
it and you're trying and then thetorque at the end and make it sure,
Man, just a little extra gripso I can get that extra spin
because I don't want to lose thespin rate and I don't want to lose
(01:01:49):
the grip. And what do youdo. You squeeze harder, which is
well in baseball, it's good, but the problem is it's extra squeeze which
can't help but put more stress ona forearm. No, absolutely, And
just to add on your pitch countfor these younger guys, man, I
think they need to take a littlebit more consideration on on how many pitches
these kids are throwing warming up beforethe game, and how many kid pitches
these kids are throwing between innings toget start the next inning. Uh,
(01:02:10):
not just pitches during the game.I think that's a fact that that's not
nobody's counting. And they know whatthey're doing, right, They're ramping into
their their their their when they're theirlast ten or fifteen pitch, what were
they doing. They are pitching likethey're on the first inning of the mount,
no doubt about it. Good point, man, good point. Thanks
appreciate it, Thank you, anduh, let's get to Roger real quick.
(01:02:31):
Roger, you're up. Thanks RodingHey, guys, what's going on?
Hey, I just could help. But notice, I think yesterday was
the first time I've seen a multiplerun scored without even producing a hit due
to the small ball technique. Iknow they were aided by a couple of
wild pitches, but it was niceto see. And if we have any
chance of moving forward and going towardsArtoba, we're gonna have to see a
(01:02:52):
lot of that with this team. And uh, yesterday was like some final
destination stuff. Man, Like theywere talking about how tid the blue the
pitching was, and then right onQ one hundred three mile missile right to
the back of Arrighetti's leg and youknow, guys getting busted up in the
hands with with with the balls, and the guys still hitting balls follow balls
(01:03:14):
off their chins and stuff. Man, it was just like one thing after
the next. And I just, man, this is a season of h
of injury and and uh and lowand uh uh the season of injury and
uh just not not uh living upto their regular potential, never mind full
potential. And I just I justhope that you know, you got to
(01:03:37):
look at the uh at the Astros. You know, you look a look
at the hot long haul the horizon. You know. I hope, I
hope they get to October. Ireally do. Man. I think this
is the only the vision that werethat's that's viable. So I just want
to see, uh, just lessinjuries. Man, I'm looking at something
small, looking at a small uh, a small finished slide. Just is
(01:04:01):
no more injuries. That's it,guys, Thank you, Roger, appreciate
it. All right, Let's getthe break. If I need a new

(01:05:48):
Salisbury Show continued. It's doctor Larry, Larry, good morning, Good morning,
Sean, Brian trip Ley. Topof the day, man. The
Astros were Jorda Watshed last night andfour innings you had five different hitters to
(01:06:09):
go with the pitch. We scoredseven runs and two outs. You know,
wow, Man, they wore Jordawath last night. This was just
before innings. We still had acouple of playoffs cracked out trying to pull
that outside pitch. You can't doit. Myles was one of them.
(01:06:31):
Alvarez not Avareez now two Bay wasanother one. You know, you can't
pull that outside pitch. And lastnight most of the hitters were going with
the pitch. We scored seven runsin four innings. Man, they wore
Jorda Watsh last night. I wishyou bring it up to Dana Brown.
Man. They need to do moreof it. Y'all have a great day,
(01:06:53):
man, And Larry, did youhear him last week? Did you
hear did you Dana Brown? Yeah, when we talked about going the other
way and are they trying to pulltoo many pitches? And he said,
yeah, that's been part of aproblem. So you were spot on.
Just make sure I got then, you know, I got your question in
because you wanted to hear it.There you go, Sean, you are
(01:07:14):
the best interviewer on the radio.Man, Thank you, sir, because
you know what, you know whatyou're talking about. Thank you. You
can ask questions that the average intervieweris not gonna ask. Well, I
appreciate that. It's a nice compliment, my man. Thank you, thank
you, thank you. And nowhopefully they'll keep scoring runs too. And
you're you're talking. We appreciate yourbrother. There you go, thanks Larry,
(01:07:36):
appreciate it. Man. Good dude, Uh got goopo dude like talking?
Yeah you do, Yeah you do? What a game last night?
Man got all over the place.Well, it was, it was,
it was and it just like youblinked and it was. They had hung
six on them, right, andthat can you imagine strugg every time you
(01:07:59):
get the ball back pitch forty onepitch, thirty thirty three, thirty eight,
forty, I mean it's I wouldn'timagine. Many have seen forty plus
pitch innings. But the Astros, this is their strength when they exhaust pitching
staffs, when they are swinging thebat. Well, Jordan looks like he's
back at it. Bregman is upto hell. It might be his highest
(01:08:20):
average since the first couple. Youknow what I'm saying, He's in thirty
now and there's more power in thebat, so you start to see that
things are shaping up. Get Tuckerback in the lineup and settle in power
bats are there, which they allwe knew that that was gonna you know,
raise up and do their thing. But the consistency of it, and
(01:08:42):
they won a series. It's alreadythey take care of as sweep today and
this schedule says June can be amoving month for them. The injuries are
still concern. We'll talk to DanaBrown about that. Yannier Diez hits another
home run. Ryan Presley looks lookedsomewhat himself in a clean ninth inning to
get his save. Eight to fivewas the final. Obviously, Ragetty had
(01:09:05):
to leave the ball game after takinga line drive off his calf. It's
a left calf contusion. Excuse me, right calf contusion. And who closed
out the game? Ryan Presley inthe ninth and how'd that end up for
him? He looked pretty good?Yeah, safe, So with the last
guy up right, ten pitches thereyou go, one strikeout. Looked like
he was comfortable in a close itout situation, even though it wasn't a
(01:09:27):
It wasn't you know. They didn'thave to come up to the plate in
their bottom of the ninth, Buthe took care of it and in the
top of the ninth and got it, got it done. But he looked
more comfortable being that last guy out, didn't he? He sure did.
There you go. Brian and BrayYou pitched for the third time in four
days. Man, last night theywere I mean running through pitchers. Obviously,
(01:09:48):
with Ragedy leaving the ball game,Taylor Scott, Parker Mashinski, Seth
Martinez, Brian and Brady Ryan Presleyall made appearances. Parker Mashinski two thirds
of an inning, gave up acouple hits, a couple of runs.
It's the first time he's given upruns, and I believe a couple of
games. Seth Martinez giving up acouple of hits in a run and then,
(01:10:10):
like I said, Brian and Brayyou in a third. So a
good performance from the Astros. Anotherthree run difference in the ballgame, couple
of three run wins as they gofor the sweep today. But I guess
the big story is Christian Javier headedfor Tommy John. Jose or Keati is
(01:10:30):
still seeking a second opinion from adoctor in Dallas, but it looks like
he's gonna head from Tommy John.I mean, it's just it's concerning,
man. It's got to be amajor if and concern. And you can't.
I mean, I know we allwant to look at it with the
glass half full, and I do, and you do, and I think
our callers do. But if you'renot slightly concerned, then I don't know
(01:10:50):
many pitching staffs it can overcome fourfrontline starters out I really don't, which
is a tribute that they're hanging around. But how long can they do this?
And hope that the five guys thatare running out there now don't get
(01:11:11):
that they don't miss time due tosome kind of an injured and heard or
two different things right, that there'snot significant time missed, because then listen,
if something like that were to happenbetween now and the trade deadline,
you have no choice but to jumpin and go get one. You're at
that you're you're at the threshold now. I think, yeah, I think
you gotta do it now. Andagreed, agreed, I've only had one
(01:11:32):
caller on Trevor Bauer just saying, man, it's only one and probably enough,
probably enough. All right, let'sget to break. We'll continue to
talk about the astros. But man, Sean, my vision is a little
blurry. Man, you better getto wits that vision. Talking about doctor
(01:11:53):
Jeff witz That who's done thousands, literally tens of thousands of these procedures with
his eye care and LASIK procedure, you damn right, you may. You
can make any of us see better, whether it's for safety purposes for you,
whether it's for you know, youjust want to be tired of squinton.
You're tired of going to a ballgame and not being able to see
(01:12:15):
from centerfield what the pitch was, whatever it is. Let him get to
work with you. Go on andsee him. You get a free consultation,
like I did. I move tothis town a decade ago, and
a couple of years into my movehere, I was asked, okay,
who's the best, and it keptcoming back doctor Jeff Witzen. So I
went in visited him, walk methrough, walk me through the history of
lasik too in a good way.So I understood the new equipment, how
(01:12:36):
talented it is, and he treatedmy eyes like he would his owners,
own family. And in about withina week, under a week, I
was seeing better than I'd seen inthree decades. And I was on the
table for less than ten minutes andit was not invasive. A lot of
people want to know, is thatinvasive? So when you're investing in your
eyes with a payment plan or whateverit is, don't look for somebody who
(01:12:58):
does a fifty dollar I care becauseyou're looking at uh, the stamp you
and move you on like an assemblyline. You don't want that. You
want the best who treats them right. You only got two of them,
you might want to treat them right, and doctor Wits will do that.
It's wits it vision dot com sevenone three three six five nine seven nine
nine seven one three three six fivenine seven nine nine or wits it vision
dot com for all your great Lasikcare. Salsbury Show continues. I mean
(01:13:26):
standing, Gordy, my bad grindersvodka is good this morning. That was
a heavy slurp. Yeah, yeah, yeah, heavy slurp. Man.
Man, I hope you're I hopeyou're up for the task. What are
you talking about? You better hopeI'm up to now. You got a
motivation tomorrow on the T box.Look, man, I'm gonna be there
(01:13:47):
and I'm gonna motivate your ass.You just come and compete. I don't
want to hear I wish I couldcuss. I don't want to hear a
damn thing from you. Oh it'stoo hot. Have you ever had that
blade of grass is too tall?Do you ever? Have you ever heard
me my time, my my,my pants, or to tie and one
time of you know, well, that might be the case. Have you
ever heard me since you've known me? That guy took a picture in the
(01:14:09):
background, that guy asked me foranother autograph. I don't want to hear
it. That'll ever be the case. I don't want to hear it.
Nobody's asked me for the auto Secondly, uh, snapping a camera while I'm
in my back swing or talking willnot affect me, because sometimes you got
to snap hook it anyway, okay, and sometimes you're going to be a
solid ball striker, and that's whyyou're called an amateur. Yeah, but
(01:14:31):
you don't have to worry about mecompeting. Did you play eighteen in the
sun yesterday in the heat? Idid about twenty five mins my face out
of Westernoank. Did you play? No? You know what? I know
what I did? You know whatI did? I took some dry hacks.
Yesterday. I grabbed my bag ofgolf clubs, threw it on my
back and I walked the whole courseto prep for tomorrow. That I didn't
play that, I just walked that. I guarantee you. I'm not talking
(01:14:51):
about how a pop stroke. Okay, I'm talking about a golf club of
Houston. You ready, who's thecaddy me? Or you're read right?
So only your ass, well onlywhen you're asked. Okay, hey,
don't talk to me, and let'shave We're gonna have a lot of lass.
Dude, whoever we get at thepairings party night over there by the
(01:15:12):
way at uh parings parties right hereat the no free pub? No,
no, no, what can't no, I'm playing in the tournament. I
know you are your caddyot we are, Yeah, that's right. This is
we think no free free ads.Don't give them any pub? Where is
it? Is it a restaurant oris it a bar? What's the best
hotel in this area? And maybein Houston? Uh? Probably the holiday
(01:15:33):
inn. What about the post.Ok, that's okay, Well we we
we were rockets here. Yeah, and you know who owns that? Oh
yeah, it's at the post.Oh there you go, yeah, so
go there. We'll have that tofind my part. We'll find our playing
partner tonight. T off on thefirst T box. Let's go so ten
ten? The group in front ofus, who, well, we got
(01:15:55):
a the group in front of uson the first tea box. It's either
one group or two I think betwo groups in front of I think I
think it's the Bagwell Clemens group.I really hope that I'm gonna hit end
him. I really hope Jack Bagwelldidn't see any of my takes on his
GM skills. Let'll he turns aroundon what'sf of a can? There's a
fight on the course that it's sayingBob Barker, Dad Adam Sandler, and
it's you and Bagwell. That's notgood for I would say, bags you
(01:16:18):
can punch him in the face, but just leave his arms alone. Hey,
I got his legs. I gottahave carry for eighteen I carrying this
crap. You don't have to worryabout me complain anything. Now you'll get
a little fire out of me.And depending on who we draw. Now,
if we draw one of my buddiesthat I know, then it's gonna
be like then, then it's gonnabe like Pat's. Yeah if if if
Perez is our guy, they'll bethey'll be it'll be hotter than ninety seven
(01:16:40):
degrees out yeah Paty's yeah, outof D's right here. But yeah,
ten ten last tea time. Iguess I don't know if they call it
the feature group, but ten tenon the first T box, you know,
they they split t's and stuff. We're on the first T box at
ten tens. So's who's with Bagwell, I think Clemens might be in Roger
Yeah, I don't want to saythat unless he hasn't looked yet. But
(01:17:02):
the parents came out, so ifI'm letting the catterpack, nobody cares.
Yeah. Uh, we're going shortup the golf club looks like it's in
great shape, and yet I'll bethere. So, uh, it was
late because we thought initially twelve fifteenth. It says on the on the website
twelve. It's changed ten ten ttimes, So guess that means a little
sleeping in. They get to thecourse, because I you know what,
(01:17:23):
we got the bunker. I eatyou on the putting green. All I'm
saying is is, uh, thisloop. I'm gonna make it my bitch.
You're making it your bitch for eighteenI like that, make it your

manhole. I'm gonna stretch like alldays. Maybe we'll get cam Smith.

dark little yeah all day. Yeah, I'm gonna hit the cold punts
(01:17:45):

that have its one walking eighteen holeson a great golf course with fun people.
We're talking like we got to gowith it for the US Open and
it is our US Open. Atsix feet or rough, this is our

(01:18:05):

ten yard sand wedge in it's belike Sean it's gonna be okay, right,
it's all right, just just goup and knock this one in.
Yeah right, Yeah, I can'twait for us to be on like hole
twelve and uh, you get alittle fire in you. I get a
(01:18:27):
little fire. We go at ita little bit, and then next thing
you know, you're dropping a puttfrom nineteen feet away and we hug like
we never got into it at all, and the announcers have to say,
well, well, I think theysaid they really love each other, you
know how they do that when somebodydrops that bomb. I'm gonna you know,
I'm Bruce Cigar. I might bringa cigarette just to pretend like a
(01:18:47):
grit might bring a grip. Ithink I am. I'm thinking about bring
a cigarette like like a Virginia.I'm a little John Daily, like guzzle
of pepsi and some eminems. Ithink JD like loving him and m but
and then say, dog gunn it, what's thet I'm in the first cutter,
Give me a grit. Charlie Hall, Yeah, Charlie Hall, she's

You are there to completely focused, say, we're there to win, We
are there to talk about what allthe other The group's got three scratch golfers
good luck cheating sons of good luck. That means there'll be three pros in
(01:19:54):
our group. Wow, you know, I'm assuming it's I'm I'm assuming with
the tea times and if you gotthree guys, it's three pros playing with
one each guy. Right, Waittill that, wait till that group in
front of us gets backed up,and I'm gonna start yelling pace to play.
Yeah, let's go, let's godown, Come on, come on,
(01:20:15):
and then like they you know howthey they put the earpiece in on
the PG so they're walking. Sean, would you say, well, I'm
so tired of these guys in frontof us. So do we get I'm
getting out of my rhythm here,So do we get like pregame media interviews
and then post post round. Idon't think that many people really care about
our I don't know man's This isn'tlike they're interviewing McElroy's coming out with you.
Sean, you really you really stripedthat ball down the fairway on seventeen
(01:20:38):
to cut you one one off thelift walk us through that hole? Yeah?
And then so you walked through andBrian from your caddy angle, what
did you see? What did youtell your golfer? Oh? You know,
I just told him to take itone shot at the time a guy,
Well yeah, what a hit driver. Really. I was really proud
of Sean's performance today. You know, we worked on it last week.
We went to the the range quitea bit. He was out there playing
(01:20:59):
by himself in the heat. Iwas out running the loop by myself as
well. Getting mentally focused. Wetook a one shot at the time.
Man, we just came up alittle bit short. Sometimes you just don't
win. Well, we're gonna win. Don't don't start to put that out
there, Univer. You talk aboutwinning now, I you say sometimes just
to know we're sitting there with it. And then yeah, that driver hit
a nice drive on seventeen. Youknow, Brian, I was gonna go
five iron, Brian said, Sean, there's a little more wind up there
(01:21:19):
to think. So I took fouriron, pumped it to the back left
pin placement, hit it on thetop shelf and when I knew it was
an ego and I was watching thescoreboard. Yeah, and I rolled the
next one, just missed the eagleput, but birdie was enough. Yeah,
And I think I felt really goodon my ball striking. And I
think that's what makes me and soundsvery different is we trust each other.
You know, we may get intoit a little bit, we may share
(01:21:40):
a cigarette every now and then, but we trust each other. We know
each other's game, and uh,yeah, that's that's why we went out
here today. Yeah, it washad. We had a lot of fun
thanks to our playing pro too.Bad. We finished ahead of him,
but for another time. All right, let's get into the eight o'clock hour

Salisbury to usc truth, longtime friendShawn Salisbury, Brian Lima, go Lobos.
(01:24:13):
This is the Sean Salsbury Show situation. In the top of the seventh
inning last night, Astros are upseven to four. Ball hit to ride
field. Mauricio Dubond goes up totry to rob it. Had a really
good beat on it. Time tojust jump perfectly and fan interference? Should
(01:24:34):
you be mad at fans for doingthat? I feel like if you're in
the front row in right field, you need to have some wherewithal to know
that if a ball comes my way, I am getting out of the way.
Does the situation of the game matterto you? You mean for the
game? No, get the hellout of the way, especially when your
home team is on defense. Comeon, man, have some feel.
(01:24:54):
Have somewhere with you. You're lookingfor some feel? Yes, know the
room? Yeah, and you showedthey showed the video and zoomed in and
everything and the guy leans forward.Yeah. What if it's a kid?
You hate them kids? Right?Because kids? I do, say the
kids. So then if it isa kid, then shame on the parent.
So you you want to Are youthe guy that may go out into
(01:25:15):
the stands and right field and openup a can No? Uh what if
it cost him a game? Wouldyou be out of your mind today?
Uh? No, but I wouldbe annoyed. Yeah, sure it is
annoyed. We go through this allthe time, right, So you think
if a dad and his son ora mom and his son or daughter there,
let him know before and if ballcomes here, we're in a prime
spot, don't reach for it.Yeah that's what you say. Yes,
(01:25:38):
makes sense parenting. I don't careabout the ball that much. I want
my game and catch it. ButI get the kid. I get it,
well, I get the kid ina moment of what do I do
here? Right? And I understand. And maybe you don't think you're reaching
because you get all the all thehype because if you make the catch.
Guess words on top ten plays aweek on sports there. But situation last
night scared. I mean was itwas okay? But if it's in a
(01:26:00):
game, that could cost you,and we've seen that happen times before in
baseball, becomes a problem. Sothere's never a time you cut the right
field. The fans of slock whenit comes to that if you're gonna sit
there in the front row knowing thata ball could potentially come your way,
get the hell out of the way. Kind of like if you're sitting in
the front row court side on abasketball, you don't stick your feet out
(01:26:20):
and trip it. Buy when he'sgoing right, Okay, I got you,
Yeah, I'm with you. Ijust you know, thinking, well,
if you're up nine to one, doesn't matter, you really care.
You just still think there's protocol thatgoes with sitting in the first few rows.
Yeah, yeah, really, it'sthe first row, right, it's
the first row for me. Andyou know, you watch that play and
(01:26:41):
when they slowed it down and youwatch how well that Mauricio Dumont timed his
jump and how the glove goes up. He could have robbed that. Damn.
He also had matt hops, hehad some springboard and they're looking jumping
off a trampoline. It was andhe was fit to be tied. Yeah.
It was a really good time andplay, But yet you had some
(01:27:02):
fans that wanted to go get thebaseball. So what do you think the
majority of fans felt in the standspissed? Yeah? Did the person went
after it? Yeah, you justdon't want it to cost you. Fortunately
last night it didn't. Yeah, and it made the score seven to five.
And then that's where give that that'sthe problem. Now you say,
well, to keep the damn thingin the ballpark. But that made it
(01:27:24):
a little nerve wracking at the timebecause that when you're within three or four
runs, that's one swing of thebat, right, that's the problem.
Right, That's why I said nineto one. If it's nine to one,
do you cut them a little moreslack saying okay, so it's the
homeward big deal. But you neverknow in baseball when that one win or
that one, because what if thatgame goes sideways? Last night? Yeah,
so if you look at that, that was the first hitter of that
inning of the top of the seven, down seven to four, that could
(01:27:45):
have propelled them to a big inning. And that inning was a basis loaded
for the Cardinals and Brian and Brayyou strikes out Donovan to end that inning
with bases loaded, so that inningcould have won gone sideways real quick.
And you know what it all startedwith was that solo home run or right
field Duba makes that play. It'sa completely different story and again look,
(01:28:08):
I know the the play, uhwith or not the play, but with
the strikeout of of Donovan by Brianand Bray you close out that Inny,
but it got a little nerve wreckingthere for for a moment. So it
all starts with that play in rightfield. I just, like I said,
do you just have to have somewherewithal gotta have some feel know that
if the ball's come in your way, just get out of the way.
And I get the human interact orthat the human reaction is to probably try
(01:28:31):
to get the baseball or I don'tknow, put your arms out. I
don't know. I just I feellike you just got to pay attention and
just get out of the way.Yeah, because it was getting a little
too close for comfort with that one. Right, Oh yeah, I get
it. That could have that couldhave been then, yes, yeah,
momentum in game moment real We talkabout lead off walks. Well, right,
look how quickly the Astros turned itaround in that third You know when
(01:28:53):
they hung up, you know, pushed it to forty plus pitches and you
sit and they're saying, man, lasts forever, You're right and getting hung
up like that. One more walkand a two run homer and now the
score is tie. Yeah it's time, no doubt. So yeah, man,
just have a little feel, youknow what I mean, Just just
figure out. I think they kickedhim out of the ballpark. If I'm
not mistaken, you got escorted outtough sledding. You got to be the
(01:29:15):
adult in the room, whether you'rean adult or daughter. Right, So
you're giving a kid some slack,is what you're saying. Depending on the
I'm with you, i'd probably ifthe ball's in, you know, if
it's the balls in the hear saydon't Rea, I mean you got to
coach him up, maybe you know, protect the kid, you know,
but also coach him up in anine to one game. In truth,
if it's a kid, I'm notthat mad. Yeah, nine to one
(01:29:39):
in the seventh or eighth inning,I'm not that mad. I get it,
and I understand what parent. Butnow if nine to one leads you
lose to tonight, and that's whereit started, you'd be like, you
don't want but I don't want thekid, or you don't want somebody to
carry that burden around like in Chicago. You know that, get right,
So I don't want and he wasan adult. But but my point is
(01:30:00):
is that you don't, we don'twant. I guess on our side,
we should know the room too inthat type of situation, right, and
and happened. But I understand duBond's frustration that game was too close for
comfort at that point in time toto interfere. And it was a grown
adult. I rarely cult like startingthe wave. If it's a kid,
they say, okay, but kid, I know, that's my point.
(01:30:21):
Or it's the adult encouraging the kidis never the one standing up looking back
at the crowds. Go it's adrunk, basic white dude. Yes,
And guess what I've never told fortiesmid forties, the drunk basic white dude
gets no slack cup for him inthe ballpark for being drunk, being an
idiot, just reaching and getting theball and starting the wave. It's always
that, right, and you knowwhy he doesn't so he can go to
(01:30:44):
uh the office the next day, like you fellas, did you see I
got the waves starting? Everybody jumpedin. Yeah I saw eight of them.
Goody saw you look like a jackass? Mahoney, yeah down, uh
twelve exactly? Your ass? Yourass now down Google, Basic White.
I'm telling you, it's always agoofy basic white dude and it all and
he always is mad at the crowd. He gets he turns and gets mad
(01:31:06):
at the crowd for not jumping inthe first time. He started the wave
so animated and he's sweating. Yeah, he's sweating. Probably got a pit
now. I probably got a tallboy like doing it right. Yeah,
there's always the same. You canyou can pinpoint who starts the wave at
every Astros game, and always thebasic white dude. His first name is
(01:31:30):
Jagga, last name Mahoney. Ohmy goodness, you know what time it
is, Sean, don't do it. Yeah, dude, we didn't do
it yesterday. I know what timeit is. I also got spect teach
times, the guy from Lives andhe goes man, we moved the t
times up because of the heat. That's why they didn't. It was supposed
to be at the Miami Heat, going to be here. They're here,
(01:31:50):
Oh wow, because they're watching theNBA Finals instead of playing them. True,
damn, that's a bullet. Thatis a real straight right, Jimmy,
screw the Miami Heat guys, HimmyButler, them guys yeah, damn,
so you're ready for You're ready totalk Texans. Dude, Does the
(01:32:11):
chicken have lips? No? Idon't think so. You lis have a
beak, lips beak, that's allsemantics. You were about to say,
is a bull frogs? But butI've used that before, right, I
don't think chicken. Chickens have lips. Beak lips is the same thing.
I don't think so, man, they can probably enhance them out there.
(01:32:33):
What do you think about them zoidsout there? Chickens indeed do not have
lips. They have beaks and atongue instead bike lips. So maybe semantics.
So, but it should have beensean, do you do? Do
you well? It really fits theway I want to because you asked me
a question, does the chicken havelips? Going by yours answers no,
So you're like, no, I'mnot chicken have lips? Okay, no,
(01:32:56):
no, there you go. Sothere's the answer. But bee clips
semantics? Like I said, semantics. Now, let's talk Texans and their
mandatory mini CAMPC jes Strout spoke tothe media in regards to his wide receiver

Everybody knows that this is nothing butfake enthusiasm. No, it's not.
It's not though this feels like thefirst time every time. Or maybe
it's just that you're tired of talkingastros right now and you need a respite.
There's a lot of things in lifethat feel good. That song is
(01:34:46):
one of them. Is one ofthem? Did you say you're bricked up?
Yeah? Yeah, man, soit makes you horny, it doesn't
for you? What a ridiculous question? By right, stupid question? What
it obvious? Captain? Obvious?Man? And so that's where you're headed
with us. That's it, man. You want a mandatory mini camp coverage.
(01:35:09):
You got it right here on theSeawn Salisbury Show. Hey, champions
are won in the off season. They are championships. That's how you get
better when no one's watching except everybodywas out there yesterday watching. Yeah right,
yeah, I'll watching watching. Wexwas out there. Team to watch
this year, that's for day.Well that I am excited about. I
get giddy. Not I'm not doingthe gritty, but I get giddy thinking
(01:35:31):
about once you roll through the preseasonhealthy and get it done and then we
start. You know that anticipation, like, man, they're getting ready to
play next week. That's when youcan play Clay Walker anytime you want.
All I'm saying is the Hall ofFame game is right around the corner.
Boys, and number seven better noteven be at a uniform. Will they
(01:35:53):
may have. They may say, could we get him in the uniform because
he is c J. Stroud. We need and remember where it's played,
Ohio. Where do you go tocollege? Ohio States? In Canton.
He went to Ohio State. Theymay want to get him into hand a
few off and throw a quick slantand then get him out. Yeah.
All I know is a lot ofgood routes running yesterday and seven on seven
Derek Stingley knocking the balls down,Stefan Diggs running some routes, John Metchi,
(01:36:15):
Nico Collins, and then big playDavis Mills getting some action as well.
You want to win, you're gonnaplay CJ. Stroud. But just
in case, you got Davis Millsright there ready to go winning matter you're
going, you want your backups togo in and play to win. There's
no doubt. Dinny Green was alwaysbig on that. He goes, well,
(01:36:35):
if you're in a game, yougo out there and we're here to
win. Now, that doesn't meanI'm a sacrifice my starters for it.
But if you're you hear the thirdrunning back, and you play the whole
second half, you don't want togo out there and lose. Joe Mixon
carrying the football yesterday, I wouldn'tthink that Joe's going to carry much in
that opener either, Okay, Idon't think any of those guys are.
Yeah, I would. As amatter of fact, I won't even tempt
(01:36:55):
myself. I'm not putting him ina uniform if I don't have to in
that opening game, and very littlework for those guys over. But you
know that one game. Tom Bradyused to love to throw. I mean
he'd go in there and throw twentyfive times and fifteen times in a game.
But I don't think we want thatto happen, but just enough to
get the competitive juice fund when ina couple you get the extra preseason game.
(01:37:16):
That's great for guys trying to makean impression and the guys that don't
make it trying to make an impressionon another team. But this team said
you got to be judicious in yourusage of your starters in the preseason.
I don't think CJ. Stroud needsa lot of work in the preseason in
games, a lot of good practiceand practice against other teams all day every
day. But you can control thehits. I don't need Joe Mixon running
(01:37:38):
inside zone in the second preseason gameand tearing up, you know, or
hurting an ankle and twisting it wherehe's not ready for the opener. Give
him stuff in space, throw thema screen pass, let's go. I
need, I need Sunday's matter inthe fall. I don't need. I
don't want to be preseason All American. That's for guys trying to make the
team. That's how I feel. And I've changed over the years about that.
(01:38:00):
Yeah, yes, I used tothink, then go play do it.
Yeah, but I don't. Idon't feel that way because you know
what, they don't keep We keepscore, but we don't keep records in
the preseason, but you do.It's a great time for your backups and
guys that need more work or wantwork. They need work to get used
to to to put themselves in competitiveflow so they can make a team.
(01:38:21):
I already know who the starting quarterbackis. I don't need to see a
whole lot of him in the preseason. Kenyan Green was I need to see
a lot of I need to seea lot of him, yep, because
he's got a lot to prove andproved that he was worthy of being a
first round pick, which a lotof people think he is. But he
needs work and needs to be talkingabout competitive He's been out of the competitive
stuff for a minute now. Heneeds that. That that's a guy who
needs tunsle. I don't need alot of work from him in the preseason.
(01:38:44):
Kenyan Green needs a ton of work. Matter of fact, I would
he'd play every single game. Uh, some A certain amount of snaps to
get him into that flow again, got to have him play. He was
out there moving around and participating onor in mandatory mini camp. So that's
a good sign obviously, Jay,like I said, Uh, Derek Stinglely,
(01:39:05):
Jalen Peatrie participating as well. Let'sget out to the phone line seven
one three seven, John, what'sgoing on? Stop talking? Our producers
here, off John and put iton hold Son, My goodness, what's
(01:39:26):
up? John? Hey, Ihave a question for you. I don't
know if I'm sure y'all talked aboutit this morning, but in y'all's two
opinions, I want to hear y'all'sopinions on I'm sure y'all covered it.
Which way would y'all lean as whatCJ said, uh the other day on
somebody's show. You know, it'sall over the radios or the TVs and
podcasts. He'd rather have Eli's careerthan Aaron Rodgers because and I, to
(01:39:56):
me, I agree. I'm notan Eli man. I'm not an Aaron
man. But to me, Iwould rather have the Super Bowl rings than
the MVPs simply because it's a teamsport, it's not an individual sport,
and that's where a lot of people, I think, get lost in professional
(01:40:17):
sports, especially back when y'all hadthe hardened air out here with all the
drama and everything. And I remembercertain people on the radio would talk about,
you know, all eight scoring titlesin this title in that time,
but nobody cares about individuals. Youwant the rings. So I was just
(01:40:38):
curious which all thoughts were of CJ'scomments. John. Here's how I feel
about that. If you take awayEli Manning's two Super Bowls and his MVPs
and the city, he's not aHall of Famer, but he's gonna make
it. He is gonna make it. The name helps he played his biggest
in those two big games I haveTennessee. I'm not sure if it's overwhelming
(01:41:01):
how I feel about it, Butif I'm not sitting on the fence about
this, I would too, becauseEli Manning had a good career. Durable
Rogers is the better player overall. You know, he's one of the He's
one of the other than Marino andmaybe Warren Moon's spinning the ball. Marino
and Rogers may be the quickest releasedbest pure throwers of the football we've ever
(01:41:23):
had. Warns in that conversation. But those two guys Rogers can throw it,
but Rogers sometimes they haven't played hisHe's been a winner, but he
hasn't played his biggest games in thebiggest moments postseason because they he's been won
Super Bowl and Eli Manning, whilehad some interceptions and he's I think a
five hundred quarterback in the regular season, he saved his best. So to
(01:41:45):
me, it goes, yes, they're both going to be in the Hall
of Fame. Yes, Rogers wona bunch of MVPs, so individually he's
the better player. But Eli wasthe MVP on the biggest stage in the
world, which is a super Bowl, and it should go rings, super
Bowl MVPs and maybe MVP, oryou can argue if you'd rather be the
regular season MVP or the Super BowlMVP, but rings should always be first
in a team sport. Rogers bettercareer. But I would rather walk away
(01:42:10):
with two rings and still go tothe Hall of Fame than what four MVPs
and one ring. Although the fourMVPs and now if Rogers didn't have any
ring, it wouldn't even be aconversation. It would be Eli all the
way. But the fact that hestill has one Super Bowl ring and had
a better career on the regular seasonbasis. I understand the argument, but
(01:42:30):
I think that Rings to me alwayswent out, even though Rodgers is a
better player. They'll both be inCanton. I got you, Brian,
would you like to report? No, man, we gotta get the break.
We appreciate the call, John John, Let's see about it. Let's
get the break. Michah Parsons c. J. Stroud. They were over
(01:42:51):
in Tokyo just a couple of weeksago, throwing out the first pitch at
a baseball game. MICHAEH. Parsonsthinks he can hit pretty well in Major
League Baseball hed and see Jay Shawwas not having it. Let's hear that
audio and discussed next on Sports Talkseven to eety. Hey Sean here for

was swinging. Its uh zesty tosay the least. No no comment.
No, That's why I said heatthat college the overall last two years best
(01:45:26):
player in college football combined the twoyears. Okay, was it, sus?
Come on? Would you stop withthe sausage being scared? You know
it was sus. We all knowit was sust It was awful. Yeah,
swinging. How does a guy I'vealways wanted, how does a guy?
You know what he sounded like whenhe was swinging and he missed.
He probably sounded like I missed it. Oh my almost got that one.
(01:45:49):
You're putting that on him? That'show he sounded. Oh I connected.
I'm telling you, man, itwas pathetic. Listen to the least.
I've always wondered, now this thisis gonna sound mean. That's what I
said, was as if what yousaid is, yeah, I'm trying kinder
and thank you, Sean sounds mean, person, I don't really want to
(01:46:14):
be kinder. Jeler. Yeah, let's go, come on, I've always
okay. If I take you outto a tennis court, yes, can
you volley with me? Yeah?Hell yeah, I compete. If I
take you to bowling alley, youknow how to You may not roll a
two ten, but you'd look athleticthrowing the ball down the lane. Correct.
And I'm not saying you should beable to hit a fastball as a
(01:46:34):
former basketball player or a football player. But at some point in time,
like growing up, did you notlike look at TV and say, hold
a bat normal, not with yourhands four inches apart like you see and
or or with your with your youknow this this look where the where the
where the wrists are touching? Yeah? Like you got chicken wing. Look
(01:46:54):
at a guy, what a greatathlete? And then you put a football
in their hand and they throw itand someone it's like they shot put.
It's like pushing it. Yeah, did at some point in time your mom,
your pops, or even you ifyou're you know, maybe you lost
your parents in it earlier, soI'm not making it or your aunt or
your grandma. Did you not turnon the team and say, I can
pick a ball up and throw it. Look like an athlete, even if
it's just you may have to throwforty yards, but you can throw ten
(01:47:15):
yards. Yeah. Or when youjust played some catch, did you just
throw a baseball where it doesn't looklike well, look at some of these
dudes that go on and throw thefirst pitch out, even if you miss
the strike zone or throw it overthe head, look like an athlete doing
it. I know that sounds harsh, but the fact of matters. I
guess I've never understood. I cannow, like I said, you make
(01:47:38):
me go play highlight or cricket. It might, but put a stick in
my hand, I'll it's still atleast look athletic. Yes, I can
put a lacrosse stick in my hand, yeah, and run I can't play
like them, but i'd look Icould fit in and look athletic enough to
make it. Don't mean it arrogant, It's just I can. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, And I alwayswonder, like you think. Big Perky's
on a TV show avery Day watchinghighlights talking sports now when they say the
(01:48:00):
best athletes in the world are basketballplayers, they weren't talking about him,
okay, and I share as hellin football, weren't talking about Kayleb Williams
because I just don't. I've neverunderstood you stick like fifteen different sporting events
in front of you. You maynot win them all, and you may
finish in last all, but wouldn'tyou look athletic? And yes, I
guess I've always wondered. Am Iwrong about that? No? I can't.
(01:48:26):
And what an honor and dream totake back Fenway Park on the field,
Yeah, and look at it.Yes, he's thrown at about forty
to him. I I just again, I know that sounds me. I
don't care if it sounds mean. How do you, as a as a
professional athlete, not look athletic outsideyour own sport? Can you look athletic
(01:48:49):
in any sports they put on you? Can you may not be the best
at it, you may not bea you may miss, you may miss
four straight three pointers, but I'lllook like I can shoot a three pointer.
Yeah, you get my point.Yeah, So where it's not like
leading with the tom and and brickingit off the back of the backboard on
a fifteen foot jumper eight times ina row. Right, So basically,
(01:49:11):
my my whole lead into this isMichael Parsons and C. J. Stroud.
We're over in Tokyo, Japan, and they were they threw out the
first pitch at one of the professionalgames over there. Well, there was
a conversation that was had after that, and Michael Parsons talked about if he
was able to play in Major LeagueBaseball. This is what he said.
He played in one hundred and sixtytwo MLB games, five bounds every Yet,
(01:49:32):
how many hits do you think youcould get? Hear about two hundred
pictures you might get twenty two FrithDay education two. Hold on, let
me see the percentages, because Ithink I could. I meant like,
I can go about two hundred averageaverage two hundred, tking an average two
hundred like in the season like youAstro Jersey year that was a bad year
(01:49:56):
for him. No, no,but no, what's his average? No?
What was his average? Though?See, that's what I'm saying.
I think I could be about oneeighties or two hundred. The Losion has
finest Lady the Losion. It's finestper season at eight hundred best, I
think hundred, maybe twenty, probablylike ten lucky. He's not good at
anything insides throwing the ball. Thisis not bowling. You don't want to
(01:50:16):
see me. I'm nice. Igot a ball too, me too.
Yeah, we can do what youwant to do, the bed a thousand
and games. We could do it. Michael Parson want to do Michael Parsons
has lost his damn mind. Hecan hit two hundred Major League Baseball.
Stop it, holding the braid. You can barely hit two hundred? Do
you mean tell me, Michael MichaelPartons ain't doing that now. If all
of a sudden he quit football andsaid, because I look at like if
(01:50:39):
Michael Jordan would have quit basketballs Rooiyear and said I'm gonna go play volleyball,
I believe he could have made theOlympic team. Oh yeah, that's
what I'm saying. Yeah, RussWestbrook I believe he could have made an
Olympic team in volleyball, not sayingit's skilled, but if you said you
got five years to qualify, ohyou got to quit your own sport.
They're doing it, do you damnright there? Yeah? And so with
with this, do I believe thatif Michael Parsons quit playing football today and
(01:51:00):
spent nine months a year in thebatting cage, hitting live and curve balls,
and in doing that, do Ibelieve he could? He's athletic enough
too, he could make contact fifteentimes in five hundred, get fifteen hits.
I do because he's an athlete. But today, if you said run
out there with no work in fivewhen I didn't say five months, I
said five years, because he's athletic, could you could you go and do
(01:51:26):
it? I'd give him a chancenot to hit two hundred, but to
put the ball in play. Right. So, no, he's wrong.
Now, One thing about it isif it came to you or even me
at this, even it right now, after all these years, I can
stand in a batter's box. Iain't hitting two hundred. I ain't hitting
one hundred. Right now, noneof us are. With they get to
throw all four pitches, but I'llat least look athletics swinging the bat.
(01:51:46):
You may run ninety seven byby andI may be late, but it's gonna
it's gonna look like, well, the guy played baseball at some point in
his life, right, and Imay run into some hits. He ain't
hitting two hundred hole, No,he no shot because he thinks we're not
talking about batting practice. I'm stillhitting home runs over offens at batting practice,
and so were you, and you'reyounger. You get my point.
(01:52:09):
If I'm going to Fenway, I'mtelling you they're dragging me out of there
before I hit that ball. Thatball's going above the monster at some point
in a batting practice. But whatMichael has to understand is, dude,
class is thrown a hundred when hecomes in. You're facing four different pitchers
in a round, and they're throwingthree four different pitches. They're not throwing
batting practice fastball. Say you canhit two hundred, Yeah, who can't
(01:52:30):
if you're somewhat athletic live pitching therewhen you're in another sport. Uh.
Bo Jackson doesn't exist with Michael Parsonsright now, take time off and go
play that different sight. He wasa dominant player at Auburn as a baseball
player. Nah, Mike is outof his damn mine. He's lost his
damn mind. Stick to go gettingquarterbacks. Wi, You're about as good
in the league there is that. He's a fierce athlete. No, he
(01:52:53):
ain't hitting two hundred. No,and he said eight hundred at bats.
Yeah, he's hell out of here. Free you're not getting he's not getting
thirty hits. No, boy, loss his mind? Yeah, no shot,
he not getting thirty hits a triplea? No, no double a.
That's my point. Maybe not evenplaying in the College World Series probably
not right. So, and that'sno disrespect to him. That's just a
(01:53:15):
tribute to how good some of thesecats are. Right. Yeah, Marcus
Spears talked about the Texans are theyhunters or are they the hunted now coming
into this season? That's next. That's sports Stark seven ninety talking about doctor
Jeff Witz, that who's done thousands, literally tens of thousands of these procedures
with his eye care and Lasik procedure. You damn right, he may he
can make any of us see better, whether it's for safety purposes, for
(01:53:39):
you, whether it's for you know, you just want to be tired of
squinton, You're tired of going toa ball game and not being able to
see from centerfield what the pitch was. Whatever it is, let him get
to work with you. Go onand see him. You get a free
consultation, like I did. Imove to this town a decade ago,
and a couple of years into mymove here, I was asked, Okay,
who's the best kept coming back?Doctor Jeff wits it. So I
(01:54:00):
went in visited him, walk methrough, walk me through the history of
lasik too in a good way.So I understood the new equipment, how
talented it is, and he treatedmy eyes like he would his owner's own
family. And in about within aweek, under a week, I was
seeing better than I'd seen in threedecades. And I was on the table
for less than ten minutes and itwas not invasive. A lot of people
(01:54:24):
want to know, is it invasive? So when you're investing in your eyes
with the payment plan or whatever itis, don't look for somebody who does
a fifty dollars eye care because you'relooking at a stamp you and move you
on like an assembly line. Youdon't want that. You want the best
who treats them right. You onlygot two of them. You might want
to treat them right, and doctorWhitst will do that. It's wits Vision

(01:55:11):
dive into when Dana Brown joined justfor his weekly visit at nine o'clock.
Got a lot of Texans on ourmind too. We'll hear from Marcus Spears
at the top of the hour.Let's get out to Cowboy Darryl. We
had some laughs at guys saying theycould hit two hundred Michael Parsons if he
played baseball right now in the pros, and that answer would be a no.
But he can make he make ittwenty sacks now as a monster.
Love to have him on my team, but I would imagine pitchers would welcome
(01:55:35):
him every day. That a tremendousathlete. But swinging that baseball bat against
those cats is a little bit different. Let's get out to cowboy Darryl Darrel.
What's up man? Welcome in,brother? What's up? How you
doing, Darryl? Turn turn thatradio off, Daryl, Darryl, Darryl,
(01:55:55):
Darryl. Yeah, he got toturn the radio off. Man,
turn that radio off? You allright? What's on your mind? Man?
How you doing? Welcome in?Hey, he was good talking to
you. I'm talking to you guys. Man. I'm back home for a
little bit anyway. Florida High SchoolAthletic Association. Man kind of got me
man, concerned about high school athletics. Man, they've passed down a referendum
(01:56:17):
to approved n i L for highschool kids. Man, I'm wanting to
get you in Brian's opinion on howyou think that's gonna take football, basketball
and high school? What what didthey pass? Tell me again, though
you cut out a little bit. What What's what do they pass in Florida
through Athletic Association approved n I Ldeals? Oh yeah, kids? Yeah,
(01:56:43):
I mean I thought that's what yousaid. Ok. Yeah, I'm
interested in what you and Brian haveto say about how it's going to take
how too high school athletics? Uh, Baseball, football and basketball. I
think it's absolutely DRYL thinks that's agreat point. It's it's so weird that
that's how I was given a talka couple three weeks ago, maybe a
month ago, and I brought thisvery thing up. And I think we've
(01:57:05):
brought it up, you know,at times with NIL over the last year
and a half or two years. We've discussed it on this show. It
is going to creep into high school. We've said it. When are they
going to start paying the sophomore thatthey want to keep it their school?
Or the NIL deals you're allowed togo get And I understand if it's college,
(01:57:25):
why not the high school guy?So what you're a freshman in college,
you can get it, but thisseventeen year old high school kid can't.
There's the part of me that says, why would we ever interfere with
a guy having the right to goearn money. A seventeen year old non
athlete can go start a website andget paid and still go to college,
right, still go to his highschool. It's called entrepreneur, right,
But when it comes to athletes,we don't like that. But the truth
(01:57:48):
is, and quite frankly, ifwe went through all the high schools in
Florida or toy and it's going togo beyond Florida. It's going to hit
Texas and California and Ohio and Arizona. If one gets it, you know
what's going to happen, because thenthey're going to pine for it. Hell,
we may start to one day havea union in high school because these
kids are going to start saying,I'll just transfer. I'm going to go
(01:58:09):
to another high school. That allI mean, Oh, I get an
NIL deal because LA's got more ofit than than Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does.
I don't know where it's going tostop, but in Florida. This does
not shock me a bit because Ialmost guaranteed that it was going to come
down. I just know what thisfast and but this nil stuff's moving quickly
on the football terms and high schoolfootball and college. It's absurd that a
(01:58:33):
sixteen year old, that somebody that'ssomebody now a tennis player and golfer can
do it. But they're playing prosports at the time. Sixteen year old
tennis player. We got a fifteenyear old golfer who went out and finished
in the top twenty on the CornFerry Tour and now has an exemption to
go play in a PGA Tour tournament, but he can't take that money.
(01:58:56):
If he wins, he's an amateur. If he takes it, he automatically
becomes a pro. Has to goplay pro sports now unless Nil's affected that
too. So there is hypocrisy forteam sports and individual sports. I get
it, But Darryl I am adamantlyagainst a sixteen year old kid. I
put it this way. If I'ma business owner and you come to me,
I ain't buying a pair of tennisshoes or golf shoes because a sixteen
(01:59:18):
year old kid that's playing at KatieHigh School shot sixty eight. I'm just
sorry. I'm not getting any ROIout of that. I'm just not.
But it does not surprise me whetherand if you think it's just anil it's
going to come down to where schoolsare now going to have to start considering.
Maybe in Florida it already has. We've been recruiting high school kids from
(01:59:39):
one school to another forever, illegallyin public schools. It happens all the
time. Moved list your uncle's address, you're living with him, and it
happens all the time, so thisis no surprise to me. But I
can tell you what the slope isnot just slippery, it is We're going
to crash and burn with sports ifthis continues. Now, if you want
(02:00:00):
to tell me a high school seniorthat you say, when they turn seventeen
instead of sixteen can go And Iknow you can drive at sixteen, But
if you want to tell me thathe can take some nil money and stick
it into a secure account that youcan draw on once you're in college or
out of college, I get it. But can you imagine now what that's
going to do for transfer portal inhigh school? Kids are going to start
(02:00:24):
to argue, well, why doI need to live in your school district?
If I want to transfer to apublic school? Why do I have
to do that? Or going toa public school and the private school,
which is already happening, offers youa scholarship and then turns around and says,
we'll also give you one hundred grandif you go to our school as
opposed to the other public private school. It's crazy. So yeah, approving
nil deals for a high school, what is that going to do the next
(02:00:46):
lever college college sports is going toget ruined by this. Yet there's that
small part of me that says, well, if you're an entrepreneur, isn't
this just a entrepreneurship with talent highschool sophomore quarterbacks and number one recruitumber one
twenty twenty six guy in the country, and some business wants to offer him
a half a million dollars to gethim early. It's coming fast and furious.
(02:01:09):
It's already in Florida, and Daryl, it's gonna come down the pike,
you know, approven nil deals forhigh school place. Remember we talked
about that. I said it's coming. I didn't know what was coming fast
that fast in Florida. Where doesit stop? Where does it stop?
So? Are we going to getto the point that in high school?
If you take an nil deal inhigh school, you lose eligibility or do
you get to keep playing? Arewe going to see kids transfer three into
(02:01:30):
hell? I already see kids transfermuch, they get beat out, They
transfer one other place, they getbeat out, transfer another place. Can
you imagine where this is headed?Yeah? So the f HSAA unanimous approval
of deal yep. Wow. Sowait a minute, Okay, I'm a
business owner. Let's say you andI, Brian own a business. We're
in the we're in the clothing business. Let's just say, are you paying
(02:01:54):
a million dollars to a sixteen yearDo you think sixteen year old wearing a
suit's gonna make you wear the suit? Absolutely not. And what I'm trying
to figure out, so where's thenil money going? Is it a booster?
Like it? I'm just gonna useI'm not saying they're doing it.
Let's see, Well, since it'snot it's not legal in Texas, I'm
gonna tease this. I want tocome back and talk about this because let's
say there's a booster at pick picka school at Spring High School Klein Kane,
(02:02:17):
Right, Okay, it can't soif it's a booster, so this
is all nil deals for the school. So they're gonna have a collective at
the school to keep a kid fromtransferring. That's what we're doing now.
I thought we already had rules inplace that you couldn't transfer if you didn't
live in the district. So that'swhat this is getting. So now we're
gonna have kids transfer five times becausesome other high school's offered him more money.
(02:02:41):
Nuts we'll discuss it. Brian,Yeah, let's let's let's get to
the nine o'clock hour and discuss thisnil stuff. I got some details here
in front of me in regards tothat ruling. We'll discuss an next to

this. Sean Salisbury there to USCTrue's longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Ryan
(02:03:49):
l Lima, go Lobos. Thisis the Sean Salisbury Show. Name,
image and likeness obviously a hot topicthroughout college sports, now trickling down into
high school in Florida, Name,Image, and Likeness is now going to
(02:04:14):
be a part of the Florida HighSchool Athletic Association. They passed the NIL
bill, which is allowing high schoolstudent athletes to profit from their name,
image and likeness. And it wasany unanimous decision. So what does that
mean? Can you receive money inhigh school? With Tuesday's ruling, student
(02:04:36):
athletes may officially make money off ofproduct endorsements using their own name, image,
and likeness, but it isn't withoutcaveats. Yeah, this is the
part I gotta hear, which Ihaven't read the story yet. Daryl brought
it up. When you're at Cowboy, Darren, when you're making that call.
So, student athletes will not beable to use their own schools,
name, logo, or uniform withoutconsent from their school district, and NIL
(02:05:00):
deals must be negotiated by athletes andtheir parents or guardians without the school's involvement.
Product and service endorsements such as guns, drugs, alcohol, and gambling
are off limits. Furthermore, schoolsand boosters cannot attempt to entice student athletes
to their programs with the promise ofNIL deals. Sure they can't. High
school athletes that transfer during the seasonwon't be allowed to secure an NIL agreement
(02:05:21):
that year without a good cause exemptiongranted by the school district. So basically,
if I was your son, meand you could go to a tire
shop and inc a deal, butif I transfer, I can't make money
off of it. Or if Itransfer, I can't go get another NIL
deal. Okay, let's do this. You're going to a tire shop and
(02:05:44):
then the guy at the school twentymiles away h offers you, if you'll
transfer and move into their district, half a million dollars because he owns ten
tire shops and he wants to doublethe money. Your man, you're not
allowed to do it. What ifthe guy just says, well, my
(02:06:05):
my pops moved over there, andsince I can't do it that way,
there's always a loophole. I'm justtelling Yeah. Oh, and they're not
read the part again where you're notallowed to offer the entice as a booster.
Yeah, So the schools and boosterscannot attempt to entice student athletes to
their programs with the promise of nildeals. They already do without the promise
(02:06:27):
of nil deals. Yeah, here'sthe I don't want to say the sick
part that the just shows you theperspective and how people were We're headed.
It was unanimous, Yeah, unanimous. And these are all grown adults that
voted on this crazy man. Thisis where we're at. Floria's the first
eight. California also has something similar. I wouldn't be surprised if Texas's next.
(02:06:55):
Let me take it to the now, let me take it one other
level. So does a fifteen sixteenyear old who's a stud athlete, stud
football player, stud I guess didfootball? Basketball? Baseball? Coach is
disciplining him, work in him. He's going to make more than the high
school coach. Yeah, all guaranteed. So so that's that's also. Yeah.
(02:07:17):
And then when he says when hemiddle fingers the high school coach or
she middle fingers a high school coachbecause and says, I'm making a half
a million dollars in endorsement deals, and then goes to the athletic director and
says, if you don't fire him, I'm leaving. We already got guys
that will leave on a regular basisbecause they got beat out and don't like
the coach or the coach hurt theirfeelings and their parents have been rolling out
(02:07:40):
of red carpet and can't handle theythey don't. They will refuse to let
their kid go through refuse to lettheir kid go through adversity. Some some
families just do. They did,we got to shield them from adversity.
Well, then you know you're actuallynot preparing them for the proper life.
It's all it's all instant gratification. So what happens when the number one recruit
(02:08:01):
at quarterback or defensive end tells thehigh school coach to kiss his ass?
I just sewed up another three hundredand fifty thousand dollars deal, and I
also have already signed it, committedto University of Florida. What are you
going to do? And you're ona really good team and the coach he
(02:08:22):
walks in and tells the athletic director, you got two choices. I got
three years left here, I'm asophomore and I already got this. Get
rid of the coach or I'm leaving. What's the athletic director going to do?
You just literally have stripped the coachof any any power at all.
Gone. Well, like I said, Brian, there's that small part of
me that says, if somebody wantsto pay a kid because he's using a
(02:08:48):
cell phone, which would seem likea natural endorsement with the way these kids
are on phones, now, whyshouldn't he be able to get it?
Can we put it in a trustwhere the kid can get it when his
college career is over, his highschool careers over, just to make it
a little bit more that would bethe smart thing to do, just to
make it a little bit more feasibleto actually have real high school and college
(02:09:09):
sports. I don't want to everdeny anybody from like I said, Ryan,
when you're on your call, Isaid, you can an entrepreneur at
high school, fifteen year old canmake a lot of money selling T shirts
and still go to college. Butthe athletes just held do a different standard.
Well it's changed now they're no longerheld to that standard. So you've
basically listen, college high school coachesalready have enough trouble and there's some pain
(02:09:31):
in the ass coaches, but alot of good ones already have enough trouble
with parent clubs going in there becausethe booster's given two hundred and fifty thousand
dollars at their fundraiser and demanding thattheir kid play. I can tell you
now it happens at a lot ofschools that the coach's sun at times and
the biggest booster, who's given themost money their kid gets first look.
Whether you like it or not, they going there. I'm not giving you
(02:09:52):
a half a million bucks into yourpublic school as I'm the CEO of an
energy company, because you're not startingmy kid. You don't think that has
an M, then you're full ofit. Okay it does. Now not
only do you walk in there andsay that my dad's given a quarter of
a million, but I also nowget to make my own money. I'm
getting from two hundred fifty thousand dollarsfrom them, and the coach is bugging
(02:10:13):
me having to deal with some helicopterparents already, for these high school coaches
is out of control, fighting inthe stands, yelling at the coach,
sprinting down after the game and cussinghim. And then turn right around and
then you can get the coach firednow and you've already stripped enough of him
where they can't where they've got tobalance all this. Now you're telling the
(02:10:33):
coach, oh, by the way, you're sophomore, that's fifteen, that
hasn't played a varsity down yet,but it was at the rivals camp.
He's got five stars on his nameand he's a sophomore or four stars.
What are you gonna do? Dude? What do you I'm not practicing tomorrow,
but I'll see you Friday. Youcan not complain me. You see
where this is going. And ifyou don't think it's gonna happen this year
(02:10:54):
in Florida, you're out of yourever loving mind. Small part to me
wants a kid to get paid properly, big part of me those cheating's going
to go on worse than it alreadyhas. And recruiting kids, and lastly,
you just stripped in Florida. Coachespower to in any way, shape
or form if you run into thatfamily or that kid who thinks, you
know what, screw this coach.Matter of fact, I'm going to take
(02:11:18):
the money endorse that I'm sitting outmy senior year. We're already seeing that
scholarship sitting out. You heard KirbySmarts. I won't recruit a guy who
doesn't play his last year football inhigh school. But is that going to
be true with all of them.If you think it can save your job
in college. So now you candouble dip second I leave, I'm already
I'm still signing these deals from highschool. Now I'm going to college.
(02:11:39):
Athletes at fifteen are going to bemaking more than the high school COACHM been
coaching thirty years. It would takeyou tell me that's a good thing for
high school sport. Good thing.I don't THINKNY high school athletes should be
making money. You know what yousaid. I'm sorry, guess what happened?
I agree them kids? Yeah,I'm serious. I'm with you.
Once any money, I don't mindanything. Put it in the trust.
Yeah, put it in a trust. Put it in a trust. And
(02:12:00):
a lot of these schools, you'regonna tell me with eight Division one prospects
on some of these schools didn't gointo somewhere in recruiter kit. But what
company or what business is gonna dumpmoney into a sixteen year old kid.
There's some idiot out there that willThere's nothing a sixteen year old football,
basketball, baseball player. I'd besmarter putting my name of a company on
(02:12:22):
a sixteen year old stud golfer.Who's gonna have the logo on twenty four
to seven at a tournament, notjust a sixty second video on Twitter.
So what's sixteen year old's gonna right, We're gonna walk into my tire company
that he just got his life sayhey, I want two hundred and fifty
thousand dollars. I'm not selling moretires because you're sixteen year old. Second
ass exactly. Like if I seea sixteen year old wearing some kind of
(02:12:45):
badass hat, I'm not saying, you know why, I gotta go get
that man. Matter of fact,I'm saying a little too young for me.
I'll wait time thirty Tim over atthe Wildan's High school. Yeah,
I saw him at the local gym. He was wearing this bad ass hat.
Gotta have it. The fifty yearold dad running down and getting a
hat that the kid was wearing becausehe wants a flat brim hat with that
logo on it. That dad needsto go back to high school and relearn
it. Or the mom you're notthat cool exactly. So no, if
(02:13:11):
I'm there's not a like I said, I'm going I go golfer in tennis
all day long because now you're gonnawear my law, I'll sponsor your ass
at a tournament. So now I'mriding with you, will sign a five
you do, and when it hitsbig, I'm all over TV with with
my sponsorship. There's not a sixteenyear old in the country playing football,
basketball, or baseball that if I'mthe CEO of a company or an advertiser,
(02:13:33):
that you're getting a half a milliondollars to endorse my tires happening.
I'm not going to eat a burgerbecause you do. Matter of fact,
I'm probably not going to the sameburger place you're going because your suck exactly,
exactly exactly. All right, let'sget to break right here on the
Shawn Salisbury Show Shotgun with someone who'sthrown from the shotgun football ham it to
(02:13:58):
ham it Sean Salisbury, Brian,Lolimo, you want to see what a
real football looks like. This isthe Sean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven
ninety. Yeah. So I pulledup another article another trade quarterback et cevera.
I've never had one quarterback highly recruitedonce come to me and say,
hey, I've been getting paid nilas a sophomore in high school. So
(02:14:22):
it looks like Florida became the thirtysixth state to allow student athletes to profit
off their name, image, andlikeness. Louisiana passed it. Let's see,
well, apparently years ago theres aren'tgetting much paid because nobody's talking about
it. I guarantee you the majorityof the football world has no idea that
exists. Yeah, April of twentytwenty two, Louisiana pass that Georgia has
and so forth and so on,and I guess you'd have to care.
(02:14:43):
I don't pay attention to that partof it because guess what, I think
it's absurd. Yeah, so itlooks like most of the kids in Louisiana
that have gotten these nil deals, they're small time deals. Two hundred bucks
for posting an Instagram pick for acar dealer, et cetera. This is
coming from from Margut Chris Gordy.Obviously he's pretty well versus in Louisiana.
And yeah, college football for lockedon sec things like that. Think about
(02:15:05):
this, and we've never discussed welldoes it go on? Because not many
did. And one article says it'sthe first one. It's almost the first,
and there's thirty plus the reason whyyou don't hear about it much because
nobody's doing it. And I guesstwo hundred dollars to a high school kid's
good for you. Get to goout and burgers and eat pizza and sauface
economy. Right. But guess what, here's another thing. Your two hundred
(02:15:28):
dollars Instagram post about a car dealershipfor a sixteen year old Dude, I'm
not, are you? Well?Let me run out and buy a new
car. What Yeah, I'm notdoing that. Take the kid's license away?
No, not doing it? SevenAddy, Good morning. Hey,
that's good guys, good amount. What's on your mind? Just thinking about
(02:15:52):
this NL stuff? So I collectbaseball cards, right, and the idea
there is to buy in early andyou know, wait for the guy to
get good and then you brought itout of it, right, So could
that be a thing they could dowith this NIO stuff, like maybe support
one of these young kids and justin a contract established that if you get
good, you know, I stillhave to be the one that that you
(02:16:13):
know, I'm backing you, right, Yeah, I'm assuming Eddie. Let's
think for a second. Let's sayyou're the high school kid. I come
to you and say, listen, you're a junior man. You're a great
high school player, but I'd liketo forge not just a short term relationship,
a long term relationship, and it'llgo up in increments. It's for
your high school career. I'll payyou one thousand dollars a semester whatever it
(02:16:33):
is, right, I'll support you. Now you post stuff on Twitter.
Maybe we'll have you come over ona after a football game on a Saturday
morning, after a Friday night inthe local town because people love you in
this town, and you could throwa few footballs for some young Pop Warner
kids. Whatever it is. You'repaying them five grand for the semester,
right, but you also say, okay, but I'd like to make this
(02:16:54):
longer if you win a you know, incentive where we will increase it as
it goes on. And let's justsay you can't force them to because if
you don't have a contract with them, what's the kid gonna do. The
kid's gonna go to the highest bidder. Right, Yeah, you can keep
me endorsing your tires or your cardealership as long as you sweet in the
pot. As we roll along.I don't think there was anything that stops
(02:17:15):
it. But if you're investing inthe kid, you would want his autograph
on the paper too. And Iguess if you're an underaged under eighteen or
whatever, your parents would have tocoach sign for the kid saying yes,
it's a six year contract. It'sa six year contract as long as this
goes here. But what will happenis you know, if you're smart and
you're the kid, you'd say,well, I'll sign a series of one
(02:17:37):
year contracts or what have you.Because if I win the Heisman Trophy as
a sophomore, then your two hundredyour sixty thousand dollars offer isn't going to
be enough. So I would haveto be two way where yes, I'll
stick with you because you came atme first with this, But you also
have to understand, here's if thishappens I win the Heisman, that one
(02:17:58):
hundred thousand turns into two fifty. So the if the business is getting incentive
to say I'm gonna stick with youwhen you weren't big but you're gonna be
big, then the kid also hasto have it. Well, I'm big,
but I got bigger than I thoughti'd be, so you got to
pay me more. Anyway, Seehow that works, So yes, I
don't see why it couldn't happen,But I I don't know where the ro
o I is on a sixteen yearold kid. And you're exactly right.
(02:18:18):
You buy it. Hoping that theROI comes from when everybody in the country
knows who they are, not justtheir local town makes a good point.
You're right, makes sense. Yep, thanks man, appreciate it, Eddie.
It does make sense. I mean, and if that was me,
if I was a business, that'swhere you get the ro o I.
Hey, man, you're a you'reyou're a you're a or if you get
a kid who's a three sports starand you say, man, yeah,
(02:18:41):
I'm going to do it for all. And when you go to college,
he here's here's how I want tostay involved in college. Hell and even
when you go beyond that, I'dlove to be your endorser. But there's
got to be stipulations or addendums toa contract the kid would want to sign
for great success and that the businesswould want to sign for protection over the
fact that most of you aren't goingto be a star when you get to
(02:19:03):
college. Most aren't you ever heardof Peyton Houston? I have not.
He's a freshman in freshman in highschool, excuse me, in Shreveport,
Louisiana, playing for evangel Christian Academy. That's the that's the evangel Christian has
been a power there for I thinkthat's the Isn't that the Booty Families high
(02:19:24):
school? Not sure? I'm prettythat that's a powerhouse high school. Peyton
Pops Houston signed a five year nildeal with Leaf Trading Cards as a freshman
in high school. The money wasnot disclosed, but it's a five year
(02:19:45):
deal that should carry the young manthrough his freshman season in college. So
they exist. It's legal, butthere's got to be I would imagine,
and I guess you're hoping for success, so there's got to be. I
would imagine escalator clauses for the kid, because what if he what if he's
a high school what if he's acollege All Americans a freshman, so he's
uh, he's required to sign stickersthat will be attached to football cards bearing
(02:20:07):
his likeness. Yeah, it worksin a hometown, but in truth,
does somebody in California care about afreshman in high school at in Louisiana?
Right now? Hey, trip Ley, do you want Houston Pops Houston.
What's his name? Hold on,Peyton Houston, Peyton Pops Houston. You
want one of his trading cards? No, I thought so Yeah, being
(02:20:30):
Dan Matthews, our buddy works here, said it because I knew Josh and
and John David and a bunch ofthem. Evangel Christian Jacob Hester, the
running back from LSU former NFL runningback, also went to school there.
It's a. It's a. It'sa. It's a private school, powerhouse
in Louisiana, damn near all theschools in Louisiana. Probably, man,
(02:20:50):
go get you a Pops Houston booty, uh trade cards or Peyton Pops Houston.
My bad? YEA so true. Here go go get you a couple
of stickers. Can just be bornabout twenty five years later. I'm not
I'm not dumping money into a fifteenyear old. I don't give it.
Nobody said. All those business peopleout there were the smartest. That's true,
(02:21:11):
my god. But in fact, the last thing I want is a
fifteen year old endorsing my automobile dealership. Okay, you can't drive, you
exactly barely permit. Yeah, wellI'm endorsing and I'm gonna put it on
there, but I got my permit, my dad's driving, but I just
want, you know, sitting inthe passenger seat semester the hell out of
here. All right, let's let'swelcome in Astro's general manager Dana Brown to

Sean Salisbury Show continued. Welcome Backwith the Sean Salisbury show here on Sports
Talk seven ninety Sean Salisbury, Brianli Limamanuel Elmore every single Wednesday at nine
(02:23:31):
thirty. Let's welcome in Astros GeneralManager Dana Brown. We do we always
look forward to this favorite time onWednesday talking to Dana Brown, the Astro
GM. Grateful for his weekly visithere on Sports Talk seven ninety Dana.
We just got news, welcome in, first off, and congratulations on these
last two wins. And just gotnews from the Astros site that Jose Orkeaty
is going to have Tommy John surgery. So in the last couple of days
(02:23:54):
Erkeaty and Javier both, let mejust get your emotional thoughts on this for
both of these guys will be outfor an extended time with Tommy John.
Yeah, tough time of course forthe club. Those guys have been pretty
good pitchers for this organization and bothhave pitched in the postseason. So it's
very difficult that they're going to haveavailable surgery. We don't know to the
(02:24:18):
We don't know the extent of ituntil the doctor gets in. Certainly Tommy
John is the possibility, but wewon't know that until they have the Surgers.
Uh. You know, I thinkit's been a tough ride for those
guys. You know, they've beenbattling through some things, and so let's
finally get them fixed and you know, we'll get Hobby Air back, you
(02:24:41):
know, probably sometime next year. It's gonna be a tough time. But
you know, overall, the rotationis still pretty much intact, and we've
been pretty good, you know, with a three zero five earned run average
over the last twenty three games. So uh, you know, uh,
while we're gonna miss those guys werecertainly still moving in the right direction.
(02:25:03):
Dan. And you're not a doctor, and neither am I, but you
consult with them, Hector. Asa general manager, you want to know
all the results and why something happens. But around baseball and maybe people you've
talked to with your insight, andmaybe it's just because the astros, it
feels like it's happening more often nowadays. Well do any reason, Do anybody
give you a reason why we feellike it? Is it spin rate?
(02:25:24):
Is it velocity? Why this ishappening so often? Yeah, I think
kids are throwing harder at a youngerage. I mean, I think back
you know, I've been in thegame for thirty four years. I think
back, you know, in mytenth year, you know, if you
threw if you touch ninety three,it was a big deal. It's like,
Wow, that guy's up to ninetythree. I mean, now ninety
(02:25:46):
three is an average fastball. Youknow, guys are touching one hundred and
one hundred and one hundred and two. So I think guys are throwing harder
at a younger age, and Ithink that's probably even tall of these.
Third reason, I'm certain, I'mcertain that that's probably a part of it.
I'm sure there's other reasons why guysare having surgeries as well. I'm
not a doctor, but you know, just looking at the trend of years
(02:26:11):
in the game, I just knowguys are certainly throwing harder, and there's
more surgeries. Astros GM Dana Brownfor his weekly visit here on Sports Talk
seven ninety Always grateful to have himon. Dana. I don't know,
with your thirty four years in baseball, have you ever seen where a team
could overcome And I know you're hopingto get mccullors and Garcia back midway through
(02:26:31):
or sometime around that time. AllStar breaker beyond, we're four frontline starters,
guys that have been impactful that theteam's had to overcome four of them
and still be as competitive as youguys want to be. Have you seen
that in your thirty four years ofbaseball? Yeah? I think you know,
when you have the depth that wehave in our pitching, you know,
(02:26:54):
if you look at our repation nowrepatis really it's really good. So
you know we have you know, the veteran and Verlander of course, and
the veteran in Valdez, and thenuh, you know Blanco getting him uh
into the rotation, the the ideato put him into the rotation. That's
been big. He's been one ofour best pitchers. And then we have
(02:27:16):
two young guys who were turning thecorner, Arrogetty and Brown. These guys
have been pitching very well. Youknow, rag Getty took a line drive
off the calf yesterday, but he'sgonna be He's gonna be all right.
But look, our rotation is stillintact. We still have a you know,
a playoff type rotation. You know, we have frontline guys. I
(02:27:37):
mean, if we get into anywe get into the we get into the
playoffs. We can, we canbattle anybody with our front two. And
then you know, our our ourthree. After that, you know we
have we have JV and we haveValdad and as our front two. And
then you know what Blanco was throwingthe ball well, and and then of
course the two young guys are turningthe corner. So I really think that,
(02:27:58):
uh, you know, losing theseguys, it's very unfortunate, but
I think ultimately we're still in positionto go on a run. We're still
in position to hit the postseason. It's not time to hit the panic button
yet. And so I still fullyfeel really good about it. As I
mentioned, were over the last twentythree you know games, we've got a
(02:28:20):
three zero five and run average forour starters, so I think our pitch
is going to be okay. Yeah, and then they've done a phenomenal job
last what fifteen or so starts,So Dane, let me continue with this
pitching stuff. Let's for instance,And with that you talked about how good
they've been, and they have been, but now considering now, there's got
to be some IFFs by it thoughnow there's more pressure with these four guys
still hurt, Isn't there not morepressure to say, damn, we don't
(02:28:43):
have a big luxury to lose anotherone for fifteen days, even if it's
missing two starts. I mean, now, the durability and when you think
about Hunter Brown, Renelle Blanco andArraghetti, the length in which they're going
to have to go with this soyou don't tax a bullpen and they've never
gone that many innings. Is therea concern about durability with the five guys
(02:29:05):
you got, and what are yougonna do if one of them goes down
and God forbidden none of them do. Yeah, Ultimately we've tapped into the
depth of our pitching for sure, you know, with the other guys going
down, But we still feel likewe got a couple of guys in triple
A if something else happens. Youknow, and as you guys have heard
(02:29:26):
me talk on the show a lot, I'm always in the market to get
pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching. Anytime you can get pitching, I
think it's going to help your ballclubs. So you know, we're always
in the market for pitching. There'snever a time that we're not in the
market. I've said that multiple times. So I think based on my experience
and based on what I'm seeing, these five that we have are legitimate starters.
(02:29:50):
These guys can certainly get us tothe postseason, and if we get
in, certainly we could have arun. So I'm not discoura it's a
little disappointed that our guys are goingdown. But look, I've said it
before, ninety seven postseason games inthe last seven years. For you know,
(02:30:11):
going to this CS for seven yearsstraight, that's like a little more
than a half a season more, which shortens your off season as well and
your rest time for your arms, and so at some point you know your
guys are going to go down. It's just you know, the run of
this organization of success, you know, and we're like battling. So we're
(02:30:33):
right there and we're not giving in, and we still have a good rotation
and good things are happening in thisorganization. I'm very optimistic, that's no
doubt. Dana Brown asked for GMfor his weekly visit here on Sports Talk
seven ninety Are Dana with that. You mentioned the optimism and the extra innings
and all the things you've got tolook forward to, But you mentioned also
(02:30:54):
and earlier in the week, ittalked about you can't see really a scenario.
I'll paraphrase a little bit of beinga So let's tie into what you
just said about pitching and the tradedeadline and now not having to wait being
aggressive. How aggressive will you bein the buyer market, whether it's for
an everyday player and or a pitcher, And how aggressive are you now going
(02:31:16):
after that or are you kind ofpicking and choosing or are you on those
phone lines today working those phones tofind out if you need to be aggressive
already? Yeah, I want peopleto understand, honestly, we are always
in the market for pitching. We'realways acquiring, we're always waiver claiming,
We're always doing these things when itcomes to pitching, because we realize,
(02:31:37):
in the course of one hundred andsixty two games, you are gonna need
pitching. You're gonna need depth toget through a season. And so we're
always in the market for pitching, and so, you know, anything that
makes sense to us, we willdo. We get an opportunity to acquire
another arm, we will acquire thearm. But right now, I really
(02:31:58):
feel good about our rotation, andyou know, and as I feel good
about this rotation, and as wecontinue to play this season. You know,
we will have phone calls and weprobably will talk to other teams and
there's something out there that makes sensefor the Astros, we'll do it.
So but make no mistake, ourpitching has been really good lately. So,
(02:32:18):
uh, you know, I'm notyou know, I'm not worried.
I'm excited about you know what's comingup. Our guys are playing a lot
of good baseball here, and sowe got guys heating up like ds with
the bat, you know, andso I think things are going to start
to We're going to get on allcylinders. I've said it the whole time.
(02:32:39):
I felt like we haven't hit ourstride. We hit it for like
a week. But we're going toget on all cylinders. We're going to
run off some games. We needto get back to five hundred. That's
our goal right now. Get backto five hundred. Once you get back
to five hundred, you go ona six game run, a seven game
run, you know, before youknow, your ten games over five hundred
and so and you're back in firstplace. So that's the goal. I
think we're feel good enough, uh, And I'm not worried at all.
(02:33:03):
And let's just say not not asignificant and just somebody was fatigued or tired
and had to miss two or threestars, like fromber did a little earlier.
Okay, who would be the nextguy up? Who would be the
next guy that gave you three stars? Who would it be? I mean
we have guys like blue Ball, who's aj blue Ball, who's throwing well
down there? Uh, you knowwe can go get Colton Gordon. Uh,
(02:33:24):
you know, we we have guysyou know that are throwing well in
the minor leagues. Hech Jake Wallsand Double A is throwing very well.
I mean, you know, maybewe'll move him up to triple A at
some point. And you know, you just never know which one of these
young guys are gonna pop. Butwe still have depth that we haven't tapped
into. And so ultimately, uh, you know, we're gonna, we're
(02:33:46):
gonna, we're gonna be all right. I really feel good. I feel
comfortable you know where we are.I do realize we have tapped into some
of our starter depth, you know, which Uh you know, we're gonna
have to build that up and hopefullysome of these young guys could step up.
But I will tell you this inthis organization, young players have been
stepping up a year after year andit has to give the you know,
(02:34:09):
the some comfort to our fans thatwe've had young players step up year after
year. We've had players walk outof here and we've had young players step
in and stand up. And that'sa testament to our player development. That's
for our scouting, you know, testament to our analytics and data information that
we can find players. And sowe will not stop that. We will
keep the pedal to the metal. We'll keep going hard, and you know,
(02:34:33):
ultimately our plan is to win.Our our windows always open, as
Jim Crain has said, you know, we want to win and we want
to continue to be postseason bound. And the goal seems to always be for
this franchise like the Good Ones isWorld Series because that's who you guys aren't
talented enough to do it. Andthe way the staff has been pitching has
obviously been really really damn lights outas of late. So let me ask
(02:34:54):
you may not be fair, butI don't care. You don't have to
answer if you don't want, butI'm going to put you to I'm gonna
press you on this right now withthese five starters. Forget what you got
coming down with Garcia mccullors today andknowing what we know about our Katy and
Javier are you're starting five a worldseries winning starting five right now? Are
starting five definitely world series. AsI mentioned before, if you take uh,
(02:35:20):
JV so Ferlander and Javier, thoseare two pillars at the top of
your rotation from and Javier and andJV. Yeah, j JV and and
and Valdez. There, those twoguys are are pillars. So I have
no problem, uh with those twoguys as pillars. Blanco has been having
(02:35:45):
a career year. You know,we gave this guy to change up,
he took off and and so he'she's been one of our best starters.
So you put those three guys,I'll match that up in the five,
you know, five game series andthen you know if you have to go,
you have to go to a sevengame series. As you get deeper
into the postseason, you know you'regonna get a good start out. A
(02:36:07):
Hunter Brown. We've seen Hunter Browndo it. Let me think about this,
You're a fourth starter. Like aHunter Brown, He's gonna come in
and be ninety four to ninety eightwith a hard cutter and a good breaking
ball. There's not many teams thatcan do that. So I feel really
good about our chances of getting tothe postseason. First of all, winning
(02:36:28):
the division. We got to winthe division. Then you get into the
postseason, you set your rotation up, and we got a chance of going
on a run. We got areally good offense too. So there's still
a lot of good things going onhere in Houston, and the fans have
seen it. Like I said, time and time again, a guy goes
down, another guy steps up,a guy walks out the door, another
(02:36:50):
young player comes in and play andperforms, and it's been constant. You
know, it's been constant. Soyou know, this isn't for the you
know, week of heart, thisis this is for the Warriors. Baseball
is a grind. It's one hundredand sixty two and we're preparing daily for
injuries and you know, players leaving. We're not talking about today only when
(02:37:16):
we get in our front office we'rehere, we're talking about, Hey,
who do we have coming, whatdo we got to do here? Who
are redrafting? What is this guy'stimeline? So there's a lot of conversations
going on. We don't talk justfor today. We build for the future.
And you know, when you buildthat foundation the right way, you
know, it's it's pretty solid.So we're we're on the move for this
(02:37:37):
last fifteen seconds, I got you. How close are what do you having
Kyle Tucker back in the lineup?Yeah, I mean it's you know,
when you get hit on that shinbone, any kind of bone brush,
it's going to be day to day. You know, once he starts to
move and and and starts to feelgood walking. Right now, he's still
(02:37:58):
still it's still very sore. AndI've seen these bone bruises turn around in
a matter of forty eight hours.Right now is still sore. Uh And
so I think you know, atsome point, you know, we could
potentially get it back this weekend. But it is a deep bone bruise.
I don't know, if you know, most of us have been watching the
games and they saw it, andI mean he went down and he stayed
(02:38:22):
down for a while. I'm justvery I'm very thankful that you know,
when he took X rays, youknow, the X rays were negative,
so in terms of any fractures,So that's a that's a that's a good
thing. So you know what,we're counting our blessings right now. We
hope to have them back, youknow, this weekend. But you know
(02:38:43):
those when you fall a ball offlike that and it hits your square on
the bone, it is very, very painful. So hopefully this weekend.
