(00:02):
Susy. Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury to usc truth, longtime
friend, Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewn
Salsbury Show, the Apollo des inthe building morning, Dez. You you

(00:26):
wait all right? Really really, but we're here. We're up very rock
and roll. Thanks for having me, uh triple In case you didn't know,
this guy is a big time celebrity. Oh yeah, yep. Ward
on the Street is uh. He'shard to book, but we're able to
get with his agent and he wasgracious enough to join us for three hours
this morning. Yes, sir,Yeah, let's give it up. You

(00:47):
know, this is this is thisis what we get from the the Brian
Limb madness. Madness early there itis. There's a collapse. Yep,
there we go. All right, let's talk about the Houston Astros. They
fall yesterday in and afternoon game.Did you go, by the way,
did you go to the day game? Did not? That storm blew through
and I said, I'm just kickback and watch the game from the north

(01:08):
side. Yeah, it's it's crazy. I was leaving the radio station yesterday
and walk out and it was likepitch dark. Yeah, it was like
doomsday headed this way. Once again. We have more storms and I hope
everybody was all right through those yesterday, but there was a one to ten
star. The Astros lose four totwo. I don't know about you,
DZ call them to call the mayor, tell them the parade's off. The

(01:32):
parade is off. They lose it, they lose, but they win the
series is with another home run.Thenase figure it out, I think so,
Please figure out a little bit.I think so. Renee Blanco kind
of come back down to earth fiveand two thirds innings, h five,
hits, four and runs, twok's, two walks. You got a
second loss on the season. Youhad Jeremy Panna hitting well once again,

(01:56):
two for four, jord Ongoing ohfor Jake Myers, oh for John Singleton,
o Yannier one for three, Buddydid have another home run. Tray
Cabbage getting the call up a coupleof days ago, got the start and
right field last night. Obviously,Kyle Tucker still banged up, looks like
he could come back for the Angelsseries. He was one for three.
Jose Brayu another Ozero for performance, and then Ritio DuMond one hit what's his

(02:21):
name? Alex Bregman was a scratch, late scratch yesterday, hands soreness because
he was hit by a ninety threenine hour fastball the game before. These
astros man are just banged up leftand right. Yeah, not great obviously
yesterday losing the game, winning theseries. The lineup was indep when when
you have Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregmannot in the lineup, the rotation gets

(02:45):
at a little thin. So,uh, wasn't expecting his sweep. But
you know, you move on togo to the West Coast, take care
of business to come back home andhopefully you're about, you know, three
games away from five hundred to thatpoint and then you can kind of make
a run. So they're only eightand thirty five. Still about what seven
seven blow five hundred and let's seethe updated standings. They are seven back

(03:13):
of the Seattle Mariners. Seattle Marinerslost, Texas Rangers gott a win ball.
But you see Cord Seeger looks likehe had a little hamstring issue.
Yeah, talk about another team that'sgot the injury bug, kind of like
we do down here. It's alittle rough up there in South Oklahoma.
Yeah, with the Arlington Rangers. They've obviously they still don't have to Grom,
they still don't have Surezer. Seegerlooks like he could be out for

(03:37):
a little bit. It was ahamstring, right, I believe, so
hamstring discomfort. Do they use thatword up there or is that just us
may just be a Houston thing,Okay, But like you said, I
think with this West Coast swing comingback home, you have an opportunity maybe
get to five hundred before that Baltimoreseries. You take care of business and
just win series from here on out, to get the mid June. I
think that's kind of just the endgoal for the squad right now, to

(04:00):
get back into the thick of things. You know. Obviously six back in
the Wall, cards seven from Seattle, so got to really bear down here
in this softer part of the schedulebefore you get into the dog days.
So Cory Seger did have hamstring tightness. Bruce Bochie said, they are being
cautious. We'll see where we're atafter the day off, but I don't

(04:20):
think it's anything serious. So youhope if you're a Texas Rangers fan,
which I am not, that's he'sokay, I guess I don't want to
wish ill on anybody, but youknow, the Ashles got to get back
into it, being seven games backof the Seattle Mariners. And listen,
got the Seattle Mariners are eight andtwo in their last ten. What is

(04:43):
going on? They can't hit, they can't but they can pitch. My
goodness, they have five legitimate arms. I think a lot of people and
we've seen the time and time againover the last seven eight years of these
teams that are kind of the earlySea He's in uh champions, especially up
in New York, that they theyall hung a few a few banners over

(05:05):
a few years of the early seasonchamps. But with Seattle, it just
there is a glaring problem with theiroffense. We know they can pitch,
but that's gonna be a lot ofinnings tacked on, sort of like you've
seen in Philadelphia. Philadelphia's i think, probably the best team in baseball.
Every starter is going eight innings andthat's great, But what happens in September

(05:26):
in October when those arms are areyou know, run down a little bit.
So it's all about health. We'veseen it time and time again over
our last seven years. You know, with this run that it's about the
team getting hot, getting healthy atthe right time, and obviously having the
little luck on your side as well. So it's there's a lot of baseball
left. We heard we heard dataon Your Guys program say there's a lot
of baseball left. It's kind of, uh, the running the running joke

(05:47):
on the internet. Everyone's saying there'sa lot of baseball left, but there
really is. And so until youget to the All Star break, just
keep keep chipping away at this lead. Would you look at the Al West
and with all the injuries that theAstros have, obviously Christian Javier and Jose
Air keaty gonna be going down toelbow surgery. They don't know exactly what

(06:09):
type of surgery the elbow surgery isgoing to be until they get in there
and look at these elbows. Thoseguys are out, Kyle Tucker banged up,
Alex Bregman banged up. You're gonnahave and I know we're gonna dig
into this a little bit more lateron in the show. Is, uh,
the issues with these younger guys orthese inexperienced guys, if you will,
and Renel Blanco and Spencer Raghetti atsome point this season they're going to

(06:30):
hit a wall. So you havethat that's concerned with you don't really have
the luxury at some point to tryto go to a six man rotation.
So with all that being said, and there's a couple other issues too,
with all that being said, theaos still isn't very good like this this
season. I mean the Seattle Mariners, like, like I said, just
a couple of minutes ago, they'reeight and ten in their last two and
they're thirty five and twenty eight. And yet the excuse me, the Astros

(06:54):
are still right there seven back.Because then you look at you look at
other teams and other divisions like theCentral for the laughing sock that they've been
over the last couple of years. The Cleveland Guardians are forty and twenty o.
The Kansas City Royals are thirty sixand twenty six, and then you
have the Minnesota Twins in third placein that division at thirty three and twenty
eight. Well, I think youfinally see draft picks hitting right. You

(07:16):
saw Kansas City obviously paid Bobby Witt. I think he is one of the
best baseball players in baseball. Theyget Cole Reagan's at the deadline from the
Rangers when they traded Chapman. Youhave Schooble, who I think is probably
the best arm in baseball with Detroit. So you have a lot of young
talent over a decade's worth of kindof that division playing middling baseball, and

(07:39):
so it's all kind of coming toa head. That's great. Obviously,
the Ashtras are kind of lucky they'rein the West, because if you're in
any other division, I think theconversation is are they sellers? And now
the opportunity with the pedigree of thisteam, the championship DNA of this team,
and the opportunity of the ao Wesnot putting the Houston Ashals away this
early, especially with the start theyhad, you have to just gotta think

(08:01):
your your stars right there. You'relike, yeah, let's go, let's
rock and roll, and if youcan get hot sellers in the buyers and
then you just make a run andhopefully Seattle falls back to the back a
little bit. Yeah. Then youlook over at the AL East. Obviously
it's the Yankees and the Baltimore Oriolesat a top that division. The Yankees
are a stupid forty four and nineteenand the Baltimore Orioles or thirty nine and

(08:22):
twenty one. The Astros have theOrioles in a couple of series. But
man, the the Yankees are eightand two in their last ten and the
Baltimo Orioles are seven and three intheir last ten. Like without Garrit Cole.
Yeah, and Garret Coles. Whatmaking some rehab starts? Right if
I'm not mistaken, So yeah, cool Yankees are gonna get him back to
Maybe he's gonna come in and maybehe'll screw up the mojo. I don't

(08:43):
know. Man, the Yankees arereally good. It seems like Juan Sota
is fitting in perfectly with that group. I think, and we've said it
before on our our concept that Ithink Wan Soto definitely changed the mindset of
the Yankees for the better last sevenyears. We've seen obviously the success the

(09:03):
Ashes have had, and I meanyou went went into New York and swept
them in the ALCS one set hasbeen able to change that dynamic and kind
of perception and mentality. I thinkthey kind of have that Soto shuffle mindset
throughout the lineup now and once youget that rolling and the guys believe in
something like that winning cures everything. So obviously they're having a good time over

(09:26):
there. It's hard to do overone sixty two and then plus the playoffs,
but hey, they the AL Eastof the AL East. I'm not
worried about that. Worried about theWest and yeah, chipping away. Yeah.
And then over on the National Leagueside, the Phillies leading the NL
East at forty four nineteen. Yougot the Braves reeling from Ronald Accunya Junior

(09:46):
going out for the rest of theseason with the torn acl at thirty four
and twenty five. The Milwaukee Brewers, which the Astros beat, they took
a series from them. They're thirtysix and twenty six leading the ANL Central.
And then the NL US is notgood. They it's just not good
over there. Besides the Dodgers, they're thirty eight and twenty five, and
you have the Padres at thirty twoand thirty three. Yeah. That division

(10:11):
you imagine being nine games above fivehundred and chasing eight. Yeah. Not
great for the Braves, not atall, not at all. You have
the Cubs at thirty one and thirtyone. They're in second place in that's
central. Paul Skans pitched pretty wellyesterday for the Pirates and he shut down
the Dodger Dodgers, I mean justthree And what's better him him being a

(10:31):
big leaguer and coming up so quickor his uh dating Livy Done? What
do you think? Yes? Theanswers, yes, yeah, yeah,
tripley. Do you know what LivyDone is? I do not? Oh
my gosh, google her during thebreak bet and she she's a gymnast at
LSU. She's still at LU.Yeah, she's still an national champion.

(10:52):
They just they just won, didthey? Yeah? So I think I
think what Paul Skan has been ableto do from literally was a two way
player at the Air Force Academy. He was at the Austin regional I think
two three years ago before one's LSU. He was catching. It was one
hundred and five degrees and he's justcatching eight innings and then starting the next
game of a regional. Crazy tothen transfer portal to LSU National Championship,

(11:18):
All World, all everything, oneto one in the draft and then up
in the show hitching two Otani strikinghim out. Yeah. Crazy. I
mean, it's it's been probably thecraziest twenty four months of his life probably,
but a lot of things that I'veseen a lot of conversation on the
internet. Everyone's like, oh,you know it thows hard, blah blah
blah, the Tommy word comes up, blah blah blah. I was like,

(11:39):
he hasn't really got a lot ofrun pitching like he because he was
a two way player at the atthe Air Force Academy, he was catching
more than his throw and I wouldn'teven call him a pitcher. He was
like a thrower, like he hadto refine all that goes. Lsu gets
a pretty big workload, shows thathe can do it. I mean,
dang near throws complete game shutout Ithink in the College World Series and then

(12:03):
just goes through the system and nowup in the show. I mean,
this is I think what people thoughtStrasburg was gonna do when he first came
up. And obviously Stross had agreat career, but this is this is
different. Yeah, he Joey Loberfitomade a really good play at first base.
The video has not been deleted yet. Gotta love that. So yeah,
it was let's see big time, big time moment in that game.

(12:24):
Last night for the Sugarland Space Cowboys. I would assume he's gonna get brought
up at brought back up at somepoint, getting a lot of run at
first base. Huh yeah. Yeah. He made a really good play the
other night diving a little PfP andfor whatever reason they they deleted the video.
Well, I think the one thingwith Joey's just showing how athletic he

(12:46):
is. I mean, he couldplay second, center, left, right,
first, and obviously first base isnot his natural position. But to
be an athlete, to be ableto cross train over there, I think
that's something Jeff did when he washere, uh, when he first became
the GM, and it was buildingeverything up, a lot of cross training
of the of the players. AndI think it's kind of paying dividends because

(13:07):
it's carried through click Era, throughthe data area of all these cross training
of these minor league guys. Sopretty pump to see that and hopefull that
vide stays up. He's playing alittle more first base down there, a
little bit first base. Yeah,I wonder one of that means, all
right, let's get to break, got tons to dig into. Uh,
let's hear from the manager Joe spoton that loss last night. The Astros

(13:28):
off the day to take on theAngels tomorrow. We'll keep it rolling right
here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.Let's go. This is the Sean Salisbury
Show. Also, a little breakingnews out of the NBA early this morning,
Adrian wojan Narowski tweeding out that theLos Angeles Lakers are targeting Yukon's Dan

(13:48):
Hurley to become the franchise next headcoach and are preparing a massive, long
term contract offer to bring the backto back national champion to the NBA.
Hmm, why why why would he? I mean I get maybe you know,
I get that he wants to gointo the NBA, But why would

(14:09):
you want to go to the Lakers? Dude, I'm not touching that organization.
Yeah, I think it's uh.Anytime you can go from the college
drinks to the straight to the topof the NBA, I think you'd take
that opportunity. But also I wouldlike to hear Dan Hurley's comments. Maybe
it's part of the the day andage of nil and all the stuff that
goes into We've seen the time andtime again. I mean Nick Saven pretty

(14:31):
much said it without saying that Nil'sthe reason why he left. Yeah,
and and so it's a whole newworld. Do you have that college job
is twenty four seven, three sixtyfive, You're you're constantly recruiting, uh,
you know, the next wave ofplayers and next recruiting class, and
recruiting the players you have on onyour team too with Nil, these days
so very interesting. Uh. Idon't think a lot of people thought that

(14:54):
this was gonna happen. And uhno, because just yesterday there were so
many reports out of the Lakers,We're gonna offer JJ Reddick to become the
next head coach for whatever reason,I'm stupid of wild. Yeah. So
I think the craziest thing about then I L is how coaches these days
at the Division one level have torecruit their players that are currently on their

(15:16):
roster. Yeah, because they're worried. They have to worry about other organizations
or not other organizations, other teamsand programs offering them more money, which
is nuts. It's literally tampering.It's it's legal tampering. It's a brave
new world. I think with theDan Hurley thing as well, one of
my favorite videos, I think itwas like two years ago before, like

(15:37):
Ukon went on this run. Hewas just telling teams. He was like,
you better get me now. Better, you better get us now because
we're gonna we're building something here. That was two years two years ago.
Yeah, two years ago when theygot beat not by Saint John, they
got beat by somebody and they gottheir ass kicked and people were talking all
this noise because their fans are noteven said he was like, yeah,

(16:00):
I understand what people looked like us. He was like, our fan base
is obnoxious. So yeah, itwas one of my it's my favorite all
time get hype videos. But thecoach is just like get us now.
You can get us now for sure, but you're not gonna get us next
year. In the following you we'regonna win. So maybe that's what Lebron
and GM Lebron need over at inLa in l Yeah, well they need

(16:21):
a lot man. Yeah, becauseDan Hurley was heavily rumored to be taking
the Kentucky job when John Calipari left, so his name he he came out
and said he was like, I'mnot I'm not leaving Yukon. It was
let's see thirty three million for that, uh or is that this morning?

(16:45):
No, I'm sorry, yeah,so, yeah, okay, that's what
it was. Dan Hurley got thirtythree million in a new deal with Yukon.
So what are the Lakers gonna payhim? And that's that. That
contract runs through the twenty twenty nineseason for Yukon. My goodness, Wow,
pays to be a champion. Iguess. Damn dude, back to

(17:06):
back champion. Dan Hurly being targetedby the Los Angeles Lakers for their next
head coaching position. R let's hearfrom Joe spot a Yan her Diaz hit
another home run last night. He'sbeen swinging it well over the last couple
of games. And this is whatthe skipper had to say. Yeah,
you know, really good bats overall. Like he's swinging up better pitches,
driving the ball to right right feel. That's the yawner that we know.

(17:33):
Now. He's got to maintain that, right, He's got to continue to
make those adjustments. Pitchers are goingto make adjustments. He's got to stay
with it himself. And and andwhat I always remind you on here is
that even when you swing the bator you're not swinging the bat, your
number one priorities you're a catcher first. You're a catcher first. Mentality,
that's very important. That was Joespot Of speaking about jan her Diaz all

(17:56):
three games against the Cardinals, onehit in each game, all home runs,
three home runs, six RBIs andtwo strikeouts against the Cardinals. Before
that, he was not swinging itwell. O for let's see for against
the Twins, one hit against Seattle, one hit against Oakland. Yeah,

(18:22):
it was getting pretty ugly. Yeah. And there's a lot of expectations,
I mean, from from myself, from people on the internet. I think
a lot of people underestimated the workloadthat it takes to be a major league
catcher and the preparation of game plans, to maintaining your staff, maintaining the

(18:45):
bullpen, knowing the guy's knowing allthese new arms, et cetera. As
a young guy, I mean,he's only twenty five and this is his
first full year catching. Obviously hehad a great mentor in Maldy. But
when it's your time, there's goingto be growing pains and some times that
that leaks into the offensive side. You see it time and time again for
all the athletes on what it doesn'tmatter. It's D three, D one

(19:08):
n I A whatever it is.It your defense. Your offense should never
leak into your defense is like anumber one role. But it happens.
These guys are human and I've been, you know, guilty of that,
and I'm sure you have to,Brian, and yeah, it happens.
So like I think seeing that firsthome run the other night, he looked

(19:30):
like a little kid running around thebasis just cheesing it. You know,
that felt good to see that.Could kind of build off that. And
if he gets hot, I mean, this team gets a lot of gets
deeper because the long ast time heis ops is under six six hundred,
so that didn't play well. Andthen now that he gets going a bit,

(19:51):
this extends the lineup, especially withwith Tucker band down for a little
bit, breaking Bean down for hopefullyjust that one game yesterday. But you
get him rolling, you get thosetwo guys back, gets fun again.
Yeah, he's uh six seventy fiveops twenty nine RBIs for jan Ordaz six
bombs hitting two fifty. That's hisbatting average. Good stat the batting every

(20:15):
guy who you you me not me? No, I mean it all they
all matter, they all matter, and easy easy with uh, you know
your march marching waldon Auto comments,Man, look, you'll get people fired
up. Yeah, we can getsome calls in. I will I will
say this, mart Martin was agreat defensive game planning catcher. You can't

(20:36):
you can't say. I mean whenHall of Famers and Justin Erlander and all
these people are talking about it,it's a it's a real thing. But
uh, that's the past. Thefuture is now, Diz. And honestly,
if I'm looking at his his expectedstats and on on Baseball Savant and
everything like that, the numbers lookgood. But he's one hundred and fifty
at bats away from matching his careerhigh. He only had three hundred and

(20:56):
seventy seven at bats last year. He's at two sixteen right now, so
he'll he will double that. Ithink it's no question he should have got
more at bas last year. Andthat's kind of been the topic of conversation,
right and the old skip had youknow, said thank me later and
everything like that. But last yeareight forty six ops, twenty three tanks,

(21:19):
one hundred knocks uh to eighty twobatting average in three hundred and fifty
five at that sample size, andhe's already at two o four, so
expect to see him bild. Lookthis, we saw it with Jeremy Pinyy
right, the sophomore slump is isa real thing. Once that book is
out on you, you have todo a damn good job to make sure

(21:40):
you rewrite that book because they're goingto attack you, uh with everything they
can. And I think Jeremy canattest that. I think we saw about
two thousand sliders on TV when theywere pitching to him, and this year
he made the adjustments. You seeJeremy Pinya hitting the ball the other way,
attacking sliders early and often. Andso look, Diaz has the right

(22:02):
mindset to get back. And honestly, the staff has been looking great over
the last month and a half, the bullpen, the rotation itself, So
I think good things are coming.Uh. Ninety two at guests, This
player ninety two at bats seven, hits one home run of adding average of
point zero seven to six and onbase of one twenty four a slugging of

(22:22):
one to twenty, which is goodfor an ops to two forty three.
And no that's not Jose Bray. You who do you think it is?
It's a smart team AMLA, smartteam, A smart team all Lada.
You see what the Whites fans aredoing? No, what are they doing?
All staring off the building? Noall Star voting star just opened up.
Yeah. Uh, there is amovement on the south side. Oh

(22:45):
no, to get marteam mall Natwould be the catcher. What of the
American League? Are they really?Yeah? Fans are I mean ten tens
of hundreds of fans and the WhiteSox are going to uh stuff the ballot.
Get Martin Mala to Arlington. Andyou know what, I think the
city of you said should do thattoo. I think we should uh join

(23:07):
them to get Martine Malma be thethe starting a catcher in the fan O.
Okay, are they really doing that? Yeah? Oh my gosh,
man, Yeah it's strong man.Yeah, get more Martine over like athlete,
one of the best catchers in allof baseball. Right now, you're
your starter, Martin Maldonado. What'she hitting about? One hundred? Barely

(23:29):
one hundred over Sali. He's turnedback the clock. I mean, just
all these other people. That's crazy. That's crazy. All right, let's
uh let's get Alex bregmant update. He was a scratch yesterday before batting practice.
How's that hand doing? That's next? On sport Stock seven ninety,
the Seawn Salisbury Show continued, AlexBregman was a scratch yesterday lineup was released

(23:56):
and then took a little bit ofBP hands still sorey took a ninety three
mine hour fastball off of his lefthand. Joe A. Spotta gave an
update on Alex Bregman. Yeah, you know, I think Bregman is in
a better spot to start on Friday, just based on today and what I've

(24:19):
seen and you know what we adtoday. But you know, Tucker is
making progress. But you know wewe have to wait and see the travel
and give our training staff an opportunityto work with those guys. God,
I just hope both are all right. Just if they're not and for whatever
reason they are out for an extendedperiod of time. Oh boy, there's

(24:44):
a span, a twenty minute spanwhere's like Cavier news, dude, ose
a news. Tucker hits a foulball off his leg, Spencer wears a
one hundred and four right in thecalf. I'm just like this, this
is not our day. It's justnot a little snake bit and so then
and then Breaky gets hit in thein the hand wrists. So good news

(25:07):
is it seems like they'll be backfor the weekend series. I think Tucker's
down a little later timeline. Butyou need those guys in the lineup if
you want to get back in thisthing and have aspirations to get in the
playoffs. So when you look aheadto the Angels series like they gotta sweep,
right, yeah, you would hope. I mean you have you have

(25:30):
four series I think before that Baltimoreseries where you can win or sweep in
one of those. Obviously win theseries and sweep sweep the other one.
I think you're right at five hundredgoing to that Baltimore series and at home,
So I think that should be thegoal. And obviously it starts baseball

(25:51):
happens, right. You have toshow up every day, put your cleats
on, and go to work becauseit's not it's not like the b NFL
like where you have it one timea week. You got you have to
grind and show up and play inthese and I think this is the first
time that other teams have seen bloodin the water with the Ashos this early,
So obviously it's it's the Angels. You gotta go out there. They

(26:12):
don't have Mike Trout. You droppeda series against him here in Houston when
you were kind of rolling. Godown to Anaheim and and start with sweet
who steals more MLB game checks?Grey Kessinger or Anthony Rendon. It's gotta
be Anthony Rendon, call him Bonnieand Clyde and you know what, good

(26:38):
for him? Yeah, we're notdoing it. He's not been shybo like
he doesn't like baseball. It's crazyto me. And one of his lasting
like the Anthony Rendon highlight reel andAnaheim, is just that one pitch at
bat where he hit left handed andhits a home run home run off a

(26:59):
player, a position player pitching.Uh like, it was slow pitched softball.
That's how I'm gonna remember Anthony weredador the Anthony undone that went into
the stands in Oakley, Oh yeahlast year, Yeah, gravit. Maybe
those are the two memories. Yeah, but you know what, maybe once
to throw some of the credit cardmarls our way. You know, listen

(27:19):
to this injury history for him whenhe joined the Angels groin groin, knee
knee, hamstring, wrist, wrist, groin, wrist, shin, hamstring,
that all came in a span, that all came in a span of
just two and a half years. And what's the contract? Uh like two
hundred and forty five million dollars?I mean yeah, it was a because

(27:47):
Oh my gosh, Yeah, hesigned a seven year, two hundred and
forty five million dollar deal with theAngels. Yeah. Yeah, so he's
got an AA V of I don'tknow, thirty five between thirty five and
thirty eight. It's a lot lotof money that is high way robbery,
maybe a little athletic train geeze Luise, Oh my god. It's one of

(28:08):
the off season changing up a littleman. The Angels are are you know,
they're really good at making really badcontract signings. Outside of Mike Trout,
there's one guy right here on thisTV that just took Paul Skins deep
yesterday that I believe was on theAngels for a bit, Shoe Tony.
Indeed he was. Did they everdid did they even offer him? They

(28:30):
had to, right because it wasn'treleased because remember he was they were being
all secretive about it. Yeah, they probably had to write they they had
you just can't let the greatest generationalbaseball talent walk freely. Yeah, it
still blows my mind. They didn'ttrade them yeah last year? Yeah,
last year and get up a wholewere they They were like five games out

(28:52):
at that point. Yeah, butthe Angels I know, trust me,
I know. Yeah. And youtalk about Shoe Hill Tony walking free,
He's a d gonna walk free becausethe MLB shut the case on uh it
down on his fall. Guy,you mean to tell me that that dude
didn't know what was going on withall the other players that are being caught
betting on baseball, betting on othersports, did a sweep and let their

(29:15):
superstar walk free. You want totalk about something getting swept under the rug,
And I get it. Man,he's their cash cow, like he
is. Take take away his abilityto even though he's not pitching this year,
take a take away his on thefield ability. His global reach is
insane. There is no way inhell Rob Manford is gonna let that man

(29:38):
get in trouble. It's always likewhen you hear like the the Ronaldo text
thing, You hear it one timeand then goes away. You know,
you gotta protect the Golden Goose.I could feel I feel like Rob Manford
probably saw the evidence that show HillTony knew what was going on. He's
like, how can we get theashes? Are you are you? Are
you? Are you sure that wasshow? I'm pretty sure that was uh,

(30:02):
pretty sure that was his his interpreter, right, yeah, yeah,
that's let's rule run with that.Guarantee you he knew. You can't convince
me otherwise, you know, they'rejust sitting in a boarder room. And
some some intern was like, whatif just hear me out the interpreter exactly?
They were like, okay, that'sa good leg let's go. Oh

(30:25):
yeah, dude, so what didwhat did? Uh? What? Him?
Is a horror get His sentencing iscoming in October, right, believe
in October will be this sentencing.I think it's I think up till like
thirty three years. He's not kiddingthat all a bat of a gambler.
You have to be where the bookyou use under federal investigation. Yeah,

(30:45):
not only are you losing, butyou lost because the book he uses under
a federal probe. Yeah. It'sit's not your uh maybe not your your
job. You should probably shouldn't dothat, and then the guy that just
got caught and got banned for life, like he won like twelve percent of
his bets, maybe over five hundredbets he placed anyone just like ten or

(31:10):
twelve percent of them. Yeah, once you start chasing, man, then
you got to get out. Yougot to get out of there, dude.
During March Madness, I was gettingmy ass kicked on some of those
bets allegedly. Yeah, and uh, I stopped because I found myself that
I was chasing. I'm talking likethree bucks, five bucks, ten bucks,
you know, nothing crazy. Buteven at that point, it was

(31:30):
like damn. Oh. And thenand then I'm trying to make up with
it, make up by betting onthe UFC. Allegedly, when you're when
you're betting all underdogs in a nightmaybe and only two of you, you
gotta get out of the deep toget out of there. Gotta get out.
Yeah, my my little account allegedlydropped to like sixty five bucks and

(31:51):
it started like at one hundred andtwenty. So yeah, we had to
get out of there. Man.So next thing you know, you're you're
up late watching cricket and you're justright, yeah, you're watching Cricketer.
You're betting on like D three conferencebaseball, on your on your alumni.
You're taking five thousand and one DanHurly the Lakers? What is That's so

(32:12):
crap? I'm just if he doesbecome the next Lakers head coach, which
again Adrian wold Janowski is reporting thatthis morning, if they, if they
do get him, I'm just gladit's not JJ Reddick. I just cannot
believe that JJ Reddick was heavily rumoredto become the next head coach. It's
like, yeah, yes, howmany how many former players can Lebron James

(32:32):
get hired to be his next headcoach and then fire and the fire?
Right? I mean, damn tripleyou're a Lebron fan, aren't you.
Indeed, when I saw him playtoo, you did indeed shout out to
our guy John. Who's John JohnLeach out there in OKC Oh that's right,
yes, sir, Yeah, okay, that's right. Well they might

(32:55):
have a new head coach. Yep, I've been I've been falling. How
long before Dan Hurley gets fired? If he becomes a head coach, they're
getting probably about two years? It'scrazy. Two years, that's crazy,

Hey, Tripley Apollo Dez is afellow cowboy Fanes. Oh no, that's

(36:37):
right, he he so okay,So it's funny. Uh. Tripley was
a Cowboys fan and uh up untilthis past season he got tired of Jerry
Jones and the BS and Dak Prescottkind of like you so so correct me
if I'm wrong. As you area fan of the Shield, now,
is that right? I am afan of the Shield. That is correct.
You're a fan of the NFL.I'm a fan of the NFL,

(36:57):
fan of the commissioner, everything he'sdone for for this league. Yeah.
I am a fan of my fantasyteam. I am a fan of my
uh alleged bets in the fall allegedlyright. Uh, And I'm a fan
of that. I mean, that'sthat's all I got. Okay, And

(37:19):
you're guys, what you guys aredoing down here is it's fun. I'm
I am that Squidward meme where everyone'shaving fun. Yeah, for all the
use, there's a there's a meme. Uh and there's Squidward up in his
in his house and everyone's having byhimself. That is that is me as
a fan of the Shield. I'llprotect the I'm like Batman. Like Batman
in the NFL. So you justkind of hang out like above everybody and
like just kind of Yeah, okay, Yeah, so you're a fan of

(37:43):
the shield Man. That's what theCowboys do is uh. They just turned
fans into fans of Roger Goodell. It's not it's not great. No,
it's not not great. No,it's not. And it's actually kind of
funny because one of the national showsthis morning showing some Cowboys depth charts at
wide receivers versus Ceedee Lamb, BrandonCooks, Jaalen Tolbert, Jake Ferguson.

(38:04):
Good for Jake is Jake Ferguson stilldating one of the uh, one of
the Cavender Twins belief so man belief. So yeah, we'll see. You're
gonna You're gonna go to the TexansCowboys game this November? I might?
I might? Yet is it inDallas? It's it's in South Oklahoma?
It is it is as a fanof the shield I may have to be

(38:24):
a representative of Yeah. Points apremier game, good point, dude,
you got a lot going on thisfall man. Texas back in the seas
or not back in the SEC,but in the SEC, back playing Texas
A and M you go. Yougotta be going to that, right,
I mean, if any any listenersout there, any fellow people you know,

(38:45):
like if you want to show methe the the graciousness and the and
the good things I've heard of Collegestation and Aggie, will you want to
take me to a game? Andwow, maybe that one? Surely you've
been to an AM game before.I actually went to the the Manzielle Alabama
game after one, the one Iwas that's the only game really did too,

(39:09):
and that was just a circus.I went to the game where they
played Clemson. Clemson came to town. Clemson was like number three in the
nation. I think Tas Boyd wasstill the quarterback and no, I forgot
who. It was just a coupleof years ago and it was raining and
it was it was horrible weather andTexas A and M almost pulled it off.

(39:29):
And Clemson, I think Clemson waslike number three in the remember that
one, Yeah, that that I'veI've been to a couple of tailgates before.
I got to give it to TexasA and M. Though, man,
their tailgates like that whole pregame atmosphere, even though it's kind of coltish
and you got a lot of weirdnessrunning around the the culture out there not
bad. I will say this asa jumping to the SEC and it means

(39:53):
more. Uh, I'm excited thatgames in d k R, where I'm
a ticket holder is uh, youknow a Georgia now a Florida not a
Ricochet shot, but it's a rickchelike not a Kansas State. You're you're
getting a premier programing team, Uhin a rowdy fan base. We were.

(40:14):
We went to the Alabama game thispast season and uh, it was
they do football different in the SEC, and you gotta give them some props
on that one. Yeah, it'squite quite a different world in the SEC.
I'm I'm I'm actually as we getready to get into the seven o'clock
hour, I'm actually really excited tosee SEC baseball next year. You had

(40:35):
Texas and there Texas got some thingsthey got to figure out a baseball program.
I'm actually surprised that David Pierce isstill the head coach there. I
think that this may be his lastweek. Uh, Texas A and M
obviously one of the best programs inthe country. They got a really good
chance to win it all if theyget into They have organ in their super
reach and that's right. Yeah,it looks like all roads are leading to

(40:59):
a Tennessee, Texas A and Mnational championship. That'll be a good one.
I think lostn Agle versus Vitallo orIvery pronounce his last name. I
think with what they have they have, they had this Brandon Montgomery kid,
that's gonna be Michael Brandley two pointzero. Guys, Gez rolls out of
bed hits four hundred. Obviously it'scollege, but yeah, uh switch hitter.

(41:21):
Just the bats ball is crazy. He's gonna be a top twenty pick
here in the draft and a lotof people say it's a boring pick,
and he's gonna be the guy.Yeah. I'm pretty excited to watch those
Super Regionals, which is this weekend, So it's gonna be some good baseball
played in college baseball. Let's getinto the seven o'clock hour. What is
next for the Astros when it comesto the rotation without Jose Rachidi and Christian

(41:45):

the next head coach. I justthat's some unbelievable man, you know what
I mean? It was like JJReddick really Okay, I guess because him
and Lebron got the podcast together.I mean, Lebron can't play with the
Lakers. Say, man, whatyou gonna do when Lebron go JJ Reddick

(43:22):
only but Herley? You know,it seemed like he is a hard nosed
type of guy. Be interested? How that work out? Yeah? I
saw during during the during Yukon seasonthis past year. This past season,
Lebron sent out a couple of tweetswatching them, saying that he loved Danny
Hurley's offense. So we'll see howthat goes. Okay, Yeah, but

you know, there's no finals.I'm just gonna they cancel it,
you know, just there's no champion. As a fan of that, the
fan of the shield, you know, a fan of the shield. Just
we're just canceling, you know, this year. At the end of the

(45:12):
day, I just hope both teamshave fun. You know the sign where
I just hope both teams lose.Yeah, that is what it is.
Yeah, really yeah, I don'twant Boston have another one, But I
damn sure I don't want Dallas.Dude. Can you imagine I get I
get enough flak as it is.I'll put out one tweet about anything Rangers,
and I'll have like eight dorks inmy mentions talking you know what to
me. Yeah, we were soiff did the Dallas Mavericks win. We

(45:38):
were in our group message right here. We call it the wax Cup Cowboys.
We travel for the for the TexasGames, and they posted the the
meme of the kid that had likehe was like thirteen, had like twenty
championships in Boston. Yeah, becausehe had. He was the Brady era,
the X and the Red Red Talks, and he had the Bruins as

(46:00):
well. And that kid's now probablya young college kid and he's about to
get another potential championship. Like whata life? I mean, I know
we've had we've had two uh short, you know, we told the mayor
to get losing the street ready forthe third one. But imagine this kid
is just like I'm going to paradeevery every year for championship triple? Have

(46:21):
you seen uh you haven't seen aDallas Cowboys play like a lucky I can't
curse on here. I ain't seena Dallas Cowboys nothing so like there there
are let's see what was it again? What's the we we talked about this?
There are like teenagers or twenty oneyear olds that like haven't seen is
what the astros with the Cowboys?Like they haven't seen the cowboys in their

(46:44):
life? Yeah? When or somethinglike that since the last like it upgrade
like on the supercomputers yeah, sowe're still using floppy disc Yeah. Yeah.
So You've got kids that are growingup in Boston that I have seen
nothing but success. And I'm justsaying here in Texas. You know,

(47:04):
whether you're in Houston, Austin,Dallas, and if you're a Dallas Cowboys
fans, they're all over like obviouslythat they have yet to see them win
in January. Yeah, and I'mnot I'm not throwing that as a shot
to y'all or to you, toyou desk because you're a Cowboys fan.
I'm sorry. That's right, theshield, that's right. But uh yeah,
it's just kind of crazy to thinkabout for for like the younger generations

(47:25):
that have seen nothing but success upin the Northeast and then here you just
you haven't seen it, and theTexans haven't. Obviously, the Texans haven't
even gotten to a uh an AMCtitle game. I think they might this
year. A lot of hype, man, a lot of a lot of
heights. There was there was areally good line the they were they were
the hundred last year, they'd bethe hun hunted. Yeah yeah, yeah,
it was a good borrow Marcus,Yeah, Marcus Spears uh seven one

(47:49):

out of I said forty five NorthMan. I'm I'm I'm with y'all.
I'm with you. Uh, I'veonly got one championship. I wanted to
stay to that one little little onechampionship. I just think, uh,

(48:10):
you know, we're we're about togain a whole bunch of Texans fans from
the San Antonio and Dallas base.I'm telling you, watch what happens to
win Super Bowl because Dallas fander Imean, uh sanatoum fandra like vagabonds.
Man. I have a bunch ofmoney for my Facebook page and they have
to split with the with the Astrosand the Dallas thing. It just,

(48:32):
oh my god, it just makesme want to throw up in my mouth
a little bit. But yeah,I'm I'm with you, Matt. I
want nothing, no more championships fromDallas for the rest, you know,
and I'll be happy, but yeah, because it's just how they It's just
how they are. The whole fanbase is just ollusional. And then just
it's just yeah, I can't doit, can't happen, So go Boston,

(48:53):
all right, guys, appreciate Rogerand joy day, buddy. I
can only imagine what that Facebook pageis like, Dude, Facebook, I'm
not in any I'm not in anyAstros Facebook groups, any sports Facebook groups
at all. I see the stuffon Twitter from Astros Twitter, from Rangers

(49:17):
Twitter, and all the other teamstwitters, and it's as cesspool on Twitter.
But I've heard Facebook is like athousand times worse. Tell you,
Facebook makes ex Twitter, Sports Twitter, the gardener eaton. It's there's some
there's some takes on there, dude. I have seen things like screenshots from

(49:38):
buddies. I have heard things, and it's a nightmare over there. They
believe it. It's like nightmare. And I'm with Roger. Like the Dallas
fan base, they're delusional. Yeah, absolutely delusional. We are. We
call Super Bowl every year and makeit to the same place. So you
you are still a part of theDallas Oh no, no, no,
no, you just said we Yeah, well we past tense, Powell past

(50:00):
tense. Okay, yeah, Texansseven seven all the way. Yeah,
there's gonna be a docu series ofuh like the people that leave scientologies and
the people leaves Cowboy fans into thetwenty twenties. And I will say,
I enjoy you know, the rivalrybetween the Rangers and Astros, and I

(50:22):
enjoy uh a rivalry between the Cowboysand Texas. I wish the Cowboys and
Texans played every single season. Yeah, that'd be you know, that's a
good seller. I wish they playedevery season. As a as a fan
of the Shield, I will I'llsay, we dropped the ball. I
think you did. You get onhand up on me? Yeah, and
the Shield and Roger I'll not Roger'sfault, my fault. Yeah, that

(50:44):
game should be on Thanksgiving. Yeah, thanks Eving week of the cat I
feel like they dropped the ball withthat one. For sure. You had
an opportunity for Texas, Texas Aand M you know, coming back with
the rivalry, and that game shouldbe on Thanksgiving, right, obviously it's
the weekend. But you had anotheropportunity for Cowboys Texans. You had already
houses were divided already, sow Cowboysalways play which game on Thanksgiving? It's

(51:07):
not the first one, it's thesecond one after the mid afternoon. So
you could have had. You couldhave had the Dallas Cowboys playing the Houston
Texans in the mid afternoon, andthen you could have had Texas and Texas
A and M in the evening.Could you imagine, Oh my gosh,
I'd be hammered. Just I wouldn'twant to leave, leave the couch.
There's you know they say, don'tbring up, you know, religion and

(51:29):
politics with family. You actually wouldhave just families would have either fought,
oh yeah, or came together withTexas or sex Am and Cowboys. I'm
saying fights more than anything. Ohyeah, especially on Thanksgiving. Got you
got the mimosas early, you knowwhat I mean? We got Collins Mac

(51:50):
and Cheese had god yeah, yeah, I just I just feel like the
NFL kind of dropped the ball onthat one. So but uh, look,

they're ten games twelve games out?Yeah, great question by mister Doss.

(57:49):
Uh you know what, double up? Give him another to water on the
rocks. Okay, good to putboth those on my tap. Okay,
got it. I think there's areal converse that this fan base needs to
have internally about how you can retoolfor twenty twenty five, and it's making
some hard decisions about impending free agents, arms outfielders to trade to people that

(58:16):
are in it, and you canget major League Baseball players back, you
can get prospects back, and youcan go for it. In twenty twenty
five. You have a core ofTucker Jr. Don Altuve, DS,
Penya, Jake Myers Is hopefully cankeep that rolling and Framebour on the mound.

(58:38):
Obviously you're gonna miss Hobbyer and Josefor pretty much all of next year,
but you have Blanco, you haveSpencer Hunter, JB. Potentially,
but you can retool, and you'veseen other teams do it. I think
the Mariners have done it pretty wellover the last four years. I mean,
obviously without the success in the postseason, but they always seem to get

(59:02):
rid of a contract that they knowthey're not going to re sign and get
someone with years, or they goget prospects and and does it really hurt
their chances? And obviously the famousyou know, GM of the time,
we're gonna win. Uh, butif you're ten, I think that I

(59:23):
think that numbers pretty much saying you'reselling And obviously we haven't had that in
a while here. It doesn't meanthe the Golden age is over and the
windows closed. You just are chipsall in for twenty twenty five. Yeah.
Yeah, I think it's all goingto come down to what the deficit
looks like. Because they got toget back to five hundred, that's first
and foremost. Dane Brown said thatyesterday the goal was to get back to

(59:45):
five hundred. But yet you're stilleight game seven games under five hundred right
now. Yeah, I mean ittakes it helps that the AO Wes has
been so bad, Yeah, thatit takes one weekend that you're back in
it. And obviously the other sideof the flip of the coin is one
bad weekend, you're out of it. Uh. And the worry that I

(01:00:06):
have is when you're constantly playing uphillmm hmm, that's that's draining you're you're
I think we saw that a littlelast year. The actions were just fighting
and fighting and fighting, and theywin the division on the last day and
you get in you finally take yourbreath and then you're like, okap,
now we're in the playoffs, Soget the five hundred as quick as you
can and then you can make therun. And if if you're under ten,

(01:00:29):
I still think, uh, ifyou buy, you better, you
better go all in. You can'thave one foot in the door and one
foot out. No, you can. And at the end of the day,
just look at the back of thebaseball card tops Now we're not doing
that. No, But in allserious is like, what what what's next?
As we go to break what isnext for the Astros? Obviously you

(01:00:50):
have a a pretty good rotation asof right now, but let's talk later
in the season. We'll discuss anextra four stock seventy I'm sure Trasian Wealth

(01:02:44):
Lakers are targeting Yukon's Dan Hurley astheir next head coach. Adrian ro Janowski
uh reporting on that. Continue totalk about the Houston Astros, obviously the
big news yesterday it became official.Christian Javier and Jose Erkety gonna go down.
Both are having surgery. Don't knowif it's going to be Tommy John
or not, but it's some sortof elbow surgery. Both will miss the

(01:03:07):
rest of twenty twenty four and thenprobably a good, you know, a
good chunk of next season as well. This was Dana Brown on our show
yesterday, him and Sean discussing therotation that the Astros currently have. You
know, when you have the depththat we have in our pitching, you
know, if you look at ourrotation now, rotations, really it's really

(01:03:30):
good. So you know, wehave you know, the veteran and Verlander
of course, and the veteran inValdez, and then you know Blanco getting
him into the rotation, the theidea to put him into the rotation.
That's been big. He's been oneof our best pitchers. And then we
have two young guys who are turningthe corner, Arrogetty and Brown. These

(01:03:52):
guys have been pitching very well. You know, rag Getty took a line
drive off the cast yesterday, buthe's gonna be He's gonna be all right.
But look, our rotation is stillintact. We still have a you
know, a playoff type rotation. You know, we have frontline guys.
I mean, if we get intoany we get into the we get into
the playoffs, we can we canbattle anybody with our front two, and

(01:04:15):
then you know, our our ourthree. After that, you know we
have we have JV and we havefoul Dad and as our front two.
And then you know what Blanco wasthrowing the ball well, and and then
of course the two young guys areturn in the corner. So I really
think that, uh, you know, losing these guys, it's very unfortunate.
But I think ultimately we're still inposition to go on a run.

(01:04:39):
We're still in position to hit thepostseason. It's not time to hit the
panic button yet. And so Istill fully feel really good about it.
As I mentioned, were over thelast twenty three you know games, we've
got a three oh five and runaverage for our starters. So I think
I think our picture is going tobe okay. So that's a general manager
Dana Brown talking about the current eightof the staff. So the questions that

(01:05:02):
I have and the concerns that Ihave are guys like Spencer Arraghetty and guys
like Renel Blanco. Let's just usethose two right now. Spencer Araghetty the
most innings pitched in his career sofar one hundred and twenty four and two

(01:05:27):
thirds innings. That was last yearbetween Triple A and Double A for Spencer
Araghedtty. Renel Blanco most innings he'spitched eighty eight. That was in twenty
seventeen between Low A and HIE.At the Triple A level last year,
he threw seventy three in a thirdinnings. Currently, Renel Blanco has already

(01:05:50):
thrown sixty four and two thirds inningspitched. Spencer Araghetty has currently thrown forty
six in two thirds innings. RenelleBlanco is coming up on his career high
of innings pitched and we are atJune sixth. That's gonna be an issue

(01:06:11):
down the stretch. Now you haveLuis Garcia throwing live BP. Apparently he's
got some pretty good pop in hisfastball. Looks like he's should hopefully be
back mid July, late July orearly August. Yeah, so then you
got then there's that aspect of it. So when do you think he okay?

(01:06:32):
So that's what we're looking at Augustback at the big league level.
I think all Star break. Ithink they can get him before All Star
break or just right right around it. I think a couple of days.
I think he wait till after Imean also so in about a month,
month and a half. So thenthat would mean he would have to go
out on a rehab stint, likenext week or week after, probably a

(01:06:56):
couple of weeks in double a maybea week. I think you mean we're
alreadydude, We're already. June sixthalso breaks in mid July. I think
I think you I think you havesome time to get geared up. Uh.
It's it's interesting because you're you havefive arms essentially for six weeks.

(01:07:16):
Yeah, to get to the AllStar Break, get the All Star break,
then you have Luis. Then youhave Lance right behind that? Do
you have Lance right behind that?Though? That's the question. All he's
done is throw off the bullpen acouple of pitch bullpens here and there.
I know the fastball velocity has gottenup to what ninety right one? Uh,
you get you get those two armsback, you have a little bit

(01:07:39):
more comfort in the margins. It'sjust July fourteenth is the last regular season
game in the first half, Okay, so I think you shoot to hopefully
get him back after that, whichone Luis Garcia Luis Garcia. Okay,
he's in front of his pace frontschedule, so yeah, it's been report

(01:07:59):
that he's ahead of schedule, soobviously a good thing. But it's June
sixth, so throws another live VPin a couple of days. That's the
next week. That's the thirteenth,is a week from today. Then you
go into the third week, whichis basically a month away from the All
Star break. So let's say let'sjust say he goes out on his first

(01:08:21):
rehab start I don't know, thelast week of June, so yeah,
so he'll be hopefully set to startsecond half. Well, and it's Tom
and John, right, So youhave a strict schedule, right, and
I think every trainer across the countryknows what the schedule is for a post

(01:08:42):
Tommy rehab. So you have youryour dates, and you have your your
your markers to hit, and youknow, hopefully you get that arm back
and get the other arm back andyou can roll. Because, like you
said, there's a legitimate problem youhave to focus on, is these young
arms are gonna be up against theircareer highs and blow way past that as

(01:09:03):
well. So I like to classifyit as future me problems. Hm uh,
future me will figure those out right, and then when it comes up,
you're like, well, mess thatone up. So gotta get gotta
get together. They gotta get itlocked in because you have six weeks with
five arms, offense has to bangand hang up some numbers. Yeah,

(01:09:27):
and you gotta get break Me backin the lineup, and you gotta get
Kyle Tucker back in the lineup, which hopefully they're they're set to come back
against the Angels. Dana Brown saidyesterday that they he is always in the
market for pitching. So what whatwhat could that look like? I mean,
and dude, the conversation that Isaw yesterday on Astros Twitter about Trevor

(01:09:48):
Bauer, like they will not letit go. Yeah, I've seen that.
They will not let it go.Like no one is touching that man
with a ten foot pole. Yeahno, And it's not just it's not
even just an Astros thing. Noone in Major League Baseball is going after
him. Oh there's a reason forthat, one thousand percent. I just

(01:10:10):
go back to going into this season, you knew your your arms, and
you knew you had obviously injuries flareup. But as soon as Justin Verlander
was pushed back in his spring trainingJP France was pushed back. Uh in

(01:10:30):
theory you knew or I have twoarms potentially on a slower ramp up.
You didn't have much in the inthe cabinet and Mike Michael taking and taking
the reason and I guess we'll neverknow. But if we all knew there
was an innings crunch, why notgo get an innings either. And we've

(01:10:51):
seen it before. Wait, waitwhen James Clinton went to go get Jake
Odorizzi. Yes, Odorizzi was onastro Twitter, a punch back at times,
but his job was just go eatinnings. Go give me five,
go give me six, and weget it to the next guy and let
it go because over one sixty twoyou need those type of guys on your
twenty six man, and we didn'tdo it. Now you're gonna have to

(01:11:13):
make a trade. Now you're gonnahave to give a prospect capital. You're
gonna have to give Major League Baseballdo there for an innings eater usually and
you just dfaate Brandon Black. BrandonBlack is serviceable. At this point,
he could have been your innings heater. Yeah, he threw two hundred innings
in one month. I think, yeah, you could have used him as
your innings heater, but you dfadhim. It's it's it's tough when everyone

(01:11:36):
kind of knew that was possibly goingin and you took a gamble, didn't
work out, and now you're gonnahave to put everybody for capital. Yet
everybody was screaming for another arm,and I know the two popular names were
Blake Snell, who's hurt, andJordan Montgomery, who got pooed off his
own field last night. I getthat part of it. You don't want
to spend money on that, Okay, I understand that, But there were

(01:11:56):
other arms out there that was serviceableand that we're on the cheap. Who's
the guy that you mentioned on ourBeyond the Diamond, the Eric Eric Lower
Lower. Actually that's who we're goingto discuss next because he could be the
savior. He pitched last night. How did he do well? Stay tuned?
Could Eric Lauer be the savior?Coming up from Triple able to discuss

a lot. That's a lot ofthat. Like, respectfully to your parents,
who the hell would name their kidApolo with the last name of Dez
like a Mexican Greek god. Like, Okay, you want to name your

(01:12:44):
kid Apolo, I understand that, but the last name of Dez, like
people actually think your last name isDez. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
talk. I'm not gonna get peoplegoing. I'm not gonna say your government
name because I know that's not howyou roll. I don't want people to

we's just call you Apolo Dez.Thanks, thanks for being here, Thanks
for coming on the show. Iappreciate it. Thanks for having me.

(01:13:06):
I appreciate it. You're listening tothe Sean Salisbury Show here on Sports Talk
seven ninety. That's the voice ofa Polodz. He's sitting in today for
Sean, Brian Leeman, Emmanuel Elmore. We're talking about the astros and the
pitching staff and the woes that wecould see later on in the season with
some of those guys hitting thresholds thatthey have never hit before. Talking about
Renel Blanco Spencer, Eric Getty.Well, just a couple of weeks ago,

(01:13:29):
the Astros picked up a guy bythe name of Eric Lower from the
Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched last nightand triple a five innings, pitch,
four hits, one run, oneearned, one walk, three case,
eighty eight pitches, sixty of thosebeing strikes. His fastball went up over
ninety four a couple of times, and his breaking pitches looked pretty damn sharp.
He could be the savior. However, Well, they made a move

(01:13:59):
yesterday to bring Cabbage up and theyput was it Javier or or Katie on
the sixty aisle? That was theforty man move, So on the sixty
Yeah, So so you have that, and if they were to bring Eric
Lauer up at some point they're goingto I would assume they're gonna have to
make another forty man move. Couldthat be Christian Javier? It might be

(01:14:23):
over to the They've made twenty transactionsthis season, you know, and your
your fantasy football I don't know wedo we do this in our league.
Uh, transactions are a dollar andgo to a pot throughout the year and
then oh we need to though atthe end of the year. Yeah,
that that pot that's accumulated from allthe transactions and it's a dollar goes to
high point. So it all outthere, you know, and you know

(01:14:45):
you could take that run with itand it gets up. Yeah. Uh
the astros uh pot would be alot of a lot of dollars after all
these uh up and down transactions. So uh, I'm pulling up Lower's page.
Career thirty six wins, thirty sevenlosses, four point three zero e
er A he's thrown over six hundredinnings in the big league's five hundred and

(01:15:06):
sixty seven streakouts a whip of onepoint three career three point six Or I
know you're a big war guy.War as wins above replacement because war is
bad or as bad? Yeah, baseball war wins above replacement. What's his
war three point two career? Ohso last year he threw forty six innings

(01:15:29):
with the Milwaukee Brewers one hundred andfifty eight and twenty twenty two. Yeah,
he may be. He may bethe guy. I don't know.
He's gonna have to be got.Look, they to have somebody to come
up and eat innings. Look,I we we say it time and time
again. We say it on ourpodcast, Tell the Mayor, m HM,
shut down los Ana Streets Series, back on if you want that,

(01:15:50):
hold on, okay, if youwant that to happen. Yeah, there's
guys on the Third Party Float.Okay, they do their jobs of one
sixty two. Some of those guyseat innings, some of those guys blog
and do radio hits. And youknow you want to have us on it,
go ahead, you know, likethat's how we disinvite ourselves with listener

(01:16:11):
mayor's name with Meyer, Yeah, yeah, tell him. We'll tell him
and like John right, John,if you're listening, which I assume you
are here on Sports Talk seven ninetythe Shawn Salisbury Show, Save us a
Seat, Brother, Save a Seat, lock Down Louisiana Street. Yeah,
praise back on all thanks to EricKlower. That's what you're telling me.
You could you could put a lunchbit on it. I don't know you're

(01:16:32):
over one in your lunch. That'sanother question. How much longer is you
want to talk about it? Imean we can get into it in the
eight o'clock hour. But he wasold for last night, and is that
bats just look uglier and uglier,And I hate saying that I don't I
hate hate talking about DF and aguy, but my goodness, how long
are we going to hinder this lineup? Man? Honestly, there's there's no

(01:16:55):
one that we did. Hold on. Let's save it for the eight o'clock
out. Okay, save it forthat, I could say it. Yeah,
let me let's get to Sheena realquick. She in a good morning,
thanks, Rolden. Hey, goodmorning. So I was just calling
in with the discussion on pitching staffand just something from yesterday. You know,
so I actually got to go tothe game yesterday, and me and
my husband were born into being Cardinalfans and we're now Astro fans, and

(01:17:16):
then my five year olds just diehard Astros and kind of surprised her with
going to the day game and gaya little better bang for your buck on
seats who rows behind the bullpen. So just something noticed with the pitching staff.
You know, Diaz gets out there, starts warming up, Then Blanco
comes out to start warming up slowlyFromberg comes dancing, literally dancing across the

(01:17:40):
field to the bullpen, signed someautographs, gets in there, and then
you see Arragatty and Hunter Brown andthey're just you know, they're all there
to kind of support their starting pitchergetting ready for the game, and that
was just something that you know,I hadn't noticed before that they all do
that, and you know, Iseemed like something that they just regularly do,

(01:18:01):
just based on how they did it, and I just that was just
something that I thought was really coolthat they all came out there and just
you know, the camaraderie of ourstarting pitching and then even like once they
had gone and the bullpen guys comein, you know, a bunch of
high fives all around, all sortsof you know, weird dancing high fives
and such with them. So justa lot of camaraderie with our pitching stuff.

(01:18:25):
It was just really nice to see. And then just also a lot
of engagement with the fans back therebefore the game too, which it's like,
you know, fromber he didn't haveto stop and sign autographs. I
don't feel like, you know, that's not something he needed to be doing.
Same with Brian Abray, you stoppedand signed autographs out there. So
so yeah, it was just youknow, something that I really liked seeing
and something that I don't know ifevery pitching stuff has that type of really

(01:18:46):
close camaraderie and just support for oneanother like that. Thank you for the
call, Shena. It's a gettingto the eight o'clock our if you and
real quick. If you've never beenaround POS, there's some of the weirdest,
most loyal dudes probably ever. Sothey I that there's no shock that
those guys, uh kind of bandtogether before each other's outings. Yeah,
the O's are a special breed man, special breed, special special breed.

(01:19:09):
I think the culture of this team, and it started way back with kaik
and and those guys coming all uptogether. Uh you see it. I
think it's rare seeing the entire staffgo out and see their guy get get
loose and warm. And we've beendoing it for you know, seven eight
years. So it's the little things. It's little things. Over one sixty

(01:19:30):
two, she's got to take apitch by pitch man, you know what
I mean, better right, batter, strip by strike, game game to
game. That's what you do.Yeah, check the back of the baseball
card sometimes No okay, no,no, let's not do that. No,
because that's in the past, dud. Why are we living in the
past. Yeah, but in allseriousness, How long we'll discuss an eight?

(01:19:50):
Yeah? How long? How longfor Jose brad Hard radio station,
the Astros, the Rockets, RocketBasketball, your home, for your home
teams. This is Sports Talk sevenninety driven by that classic elite buick GMC
Studios for the elite car buying experience. Looking at how the Astros lost yesterday,

(01:20:15):
the manufacturer just five hits. JeremyPanna had two of them. Jon
your Diaz hit a home run forhis third straight game. But you look
up and down this line upbout twoVe was o for Jordan, for Jake
Myers, no hits, John Singleton, no hits, Trey Cabbage being called
up. He also hit a homerun, but only had one hit,

(01:20:36):
and then Mauricio Dubond with another.Jose Bray you oh for three, hitting
one seventeen, a slogan percentage ofone sixty. Look, I don't want
to keep beating a dead horse. But in all honesty, you've got injuries
on the pitching staff. Kyle Tuckerbanged up, Alex Bregman banged up.
Hopefully those guys are back this weekend. All signs lead that both of them

(01:20:59):
will be back in the lineup. You got Joe Loberfido down in Triple A
playing first base a little bit more. We've seen some really good plays from
him over the last couple of days. He's still swinging it. Well,
how much longer? How much longeris this lineup hindered with him in the
lineup? Well, that's the nineteenand a half million dollar question. And

(01:21:21):
that's Uh, it's tough. Youyou hope he has he has a home
run. You hope he turns thecorner. Uh, if you look at
his raychart, everything's right centerfield awaythe rolling wOBA if you see it on
baseball, Savant is tanked. Imean, the Nasdaq would stop halt if
that was going on in the stopmarket. And it's tough. Father times

(01:21:45):
undefeated. Yeah, we've seen ittime and time again. It's if the
clean break does happen, if hegets picked up somewhere, you know,
he's gonna rake. You know,it's just gonna that's how baseball works.
But it seems like there's so giveit a chance. I'm pretty sure when
you guys had dated on a coupleof weeks ago, you know, he
said there there will be some toughdecisions and in a few weeks or whatever

(01:22:08):
it was. We're kind of comingto that radar of it, so we'll
see. But yeah, they're gonnakeep penciling them in the lineup and hopefully
finds it. But right now,it's the good thing I want to take
from this this week is how greatwas it? And everyone that's dialing in
as well, how great is itto take two or three from the Cardinals?

(01:22:28):
Yeah? They won the series theCardinals. Yeah, they won the
series. And there's a lot ofyoung fans, a lot of people just
started watching the Ashes maybe around twentyseventeen. We used to be in their
division and there's been some heated battlesbetween us and the Saint Louis Cardinals,
and it feels good. It feelsgood to beat them again. Yeah,
because they used to be in theNL Central. Yes, when the way

(01:22:49):
back when the Astros were in theNational League, back in the MySpace days.
My god, Yeah, what areTom's doing right now? He's millions
and billions of dollars, you know. And the the the reason I ask
about Jose Bredw is because the offenseis gonna have to get going and they're

(01:23:11):
gonna have to carry this team forthe next six weeks. Yeah, you
had like you don't have a veryyou don't have a lot of pitching depth
right now, you got injuries. You got Brian Abrew who's been pitching.
It seems like every single freaking dayhe's gonna break the appearance record. He
is quite literally gonna gonna break that. So the offense is gonna have to

(01:23:33):
carry this team. And I'm sorry, it is what it is with him
in the lineup, meaning Jose Brew, It's it's a black hole. And
John Singlems is gonna have to pickit up as well. If he's gonna
get more run. His averages dipdown to two eleven slugging just a you
know, slugging in on base,uh, both a little bit over three
hundreds. So they're gonna have tofigure that out or you or I I

(01:24:00):
don't know, man, or yousomehow bring low Berfido back up, even
though the Ashley's look at him asan outfielder. I mean, this is
the conversations we've had for the lastcouple of weeks, but now it's even
more magnified because of the pitching injuries. Well, I think you nailed it.
Everyone's been talking about this. Ithink everyone listening, everyone consuming any
type of content has had this conversationwith their friend group or whoever can listen.

(01:24:23):
Uh this Jose Bray you discussions. It's everywhere and you can't ignore it.
And look, he's a he's abig league player season vet. What
he did to take that option andgo down was was that's admirable for sure.
This is not a Disney Channel movie, we're results. What the This

(01:24:46):
isn't a Hallmark movie during Christmas?Wow, that's a good poor right there,
big Hallmark guy. No, okay, no, I mean I'll decorate
the out of my apartment. Butyeah, no, I'm not a Homemark
guy. Play the Hits man theHits Yeah, you know it goes agree.
Yeah, bad Santa, Bad Santatwo. That's your home alone,
Home alone two. I don't knowwhy that was the first one to come
answer, but it's the nineteen anda half million dollar question. Everyone's having

(01:25:13):
it. I think everyone's frustrated.I think if you got nineteen and a
half million to have these results,I think I would. I would take
nineteen a half million any data havethese results. So at the end of
the day, you just you gottafigure it out and like you said,
uh, Singleton, and we sawSingleton when he was the every day starter,

(01:25:36):
great quality. You're a big qualityat bass guy, Yeah, Dane
is a big quality at bats guy. Yeah. And John Singleton for those
two two and a half weeks whenhe was getting full time run some damn
good at bats. Yeah. Sothat that was another question that a lot
of people discussed, is now thata Brave's back in the lineup, some
of these other guys are not goingto get the consistent at bats and then

(01:25:58):
one of them being John Singleton. When Johnson to him was playing every day,
the at bats were much better. You were seeing more home runs,
you're seeing more balls barreled. Nowhe's not playing as much and the at
bats are they're okay, but theconsistency is not there. Chas McCormick is
not hitting well like his baseball SavontPage is like all blue like it's it

(01:26:18):
is. It's not good. JakeMyers for the most part, you mean
prime Mike Trout. Who Jake Myers, he's playing good and he's playing a
good center field well offensively. Let'slet's look the for a while he was
swinging it well and I had toeat my words because I'm a known Jake

(01:26:40):
Myers hater. Yeah. Look thisthis team is gonna figure it out.
And you're in this. He's hadhe's had two hits in the last one,
two, three, four, fivegames, six games, seven games,
eight game. No, we're justvie. Sorry, last six games.
Just vibe and don't worry about it. He hit the ball hard.
Uh. The offense, you're right, the offense is getting home stand.
He sorry, this home stand. He has not hit well. Jake Myers

(01:27:03):
a little West coast, little Westcoast, dude, he's hitting, he's
hitting. Uh. Uh. Sincethey returned home, Jake Myers hitting a
buckle five on base of one fifty, slugging of one O five. That's
an o ps a two fifty five. Hey, he was runner up probably
to a player of the month.Aaron Judge. You probably, Yeah,
dude, I gonna say it wasa great month to say you could have

(01:27:24):
made him the player of the month. But I forgot about Aaron Jes.
Aaron Judge decided to hit twenty homeruns in twenty five days or whatever it
was. Uh, check those GoldieLoft balls. Yeah, and I just
think this is and we've seen itover the last seven eight years of this
Golden Age, this offense will carry. We'll carry, Yeah, and they

(01:27:46):
have to in this month of Junethey have with your arms, Yeah,
and you're gonna have You're gonna havestarts with with Blanco where he's not striking
out everyone and five and two thirds, I think he gave up four earned
not a bad start compared to whatwe've been seeing. Is a bad start,
but overall, in the grand schemeof things, is not a bad

(01:28:06):
start. It's a winnable game.Yeah, when we're startingly using four and
you're bully holds it. So obviouslybeing down Tucker and being down Bragman's are
big holes in the lineup. Butover the next two weeks two and a
half weeks, this offense needs toget hot and carry this team. And
that means playing your best offensive lineup. And I'm sorry, Jose Bray,

(01:28:29):
you should not be in there. But yet we're gonna see him run out
there. But and that's that leadsback to the question, as we started
this eight o'clock hour, how longyou can't afford right now with the way
that the Pigeon staff is constructed,And it's only a five man rotation.
As of right now, you don'thave a lot of depth. You have
got to have everybody rolling in youroffensive lineup who so for whoever that is,

(01:28:53):
and whoever gives you the best opportunityto put together the best at bats
and the best chance to win, they must play for the next six weeks
to get you to the All Starbreak because hopefully by the All Star break
you have at least Luis Garcia comingback. That'll give you some sort of
I don't want to call it asafety blanket, but it gives you,
excuse me, it gives you moredepth. And if Eric Lauer continues to

(01:29:15):
pitch well in Triple A, he'sgonna be brought up as well. So
there are two more arms that areserviceable that will help this rotation out.
But you gotta get there first, and I think you nail it because we
constantly say in baseball it's a marathon, not a sprint, right, But
with the race leaders starting to pullaway, yeah, you gotta put your

(01:29:36):
foot down and put it on thegas. I know we're not saying empty
the tank, but you have anopportunity here. Knowing that, let's just
say a mindset wise All Star breakis the end of the season. So
you just go balls of the wallfor six weeks and you push it and
see where you are at the AllStar break. And I guarantee if you

(01:29:57):
take that mentality, you're probably sittinga really good number going into the second
half of the season. And youhave a little reset because I think with
this team, they've never we've neverand as a fanbase, we've never been
trailing. Yeah, we never,we've never been been in this position before
and then this deep. So youhave an opportunity to just put your head
down and go to work at theAll Star break. Look up, hey

(01:30:19):
reset, let's go. Let's gowin the second half because if you cover
that, you can have a good, fun second half because this team still
scares a lot of people. Andyeah, when you roll into an opposing
stadium, you're gonna get boots, you're gonna get hated, and that's when
this team thrives. Yeah, youget you get to the All Star break,
be a couple of games out,you get uh Luis Garcia back,

(01:30:44):
and then the All Star I'm sorry, then the trade deadline, and we
know how it goes to the tradedeadline, and according to uh, the
owner of the Houston Astros. Aslong as he's the owner, the window
is always open to win. AndDana Brown said he's always in the market
for pitching. So if they're justa couple of games out, you know
that they're gonna go make moves.I don't know what they're gonna give up.
Don't really have a lot you cangive up, but who knows.

(01:31:05):
But all I'm saying is from hereon out until the All Star Break,
put your best offensive lineup out there. So that's how it needs to go.
All right, Let's turn our attentionto the Houston Texans. Do you
have a problem with CJ. Stroudand all the confidence and media appearances that
he's making as he heads into hissecond year with the Texans mandatory mini camp

(01:31:28):
rolling along. Let's talk Texans nexton Sports Talk seven nine. Let's also
talk Kobe Stevens Golf Barrel at KobeStevens dot Com. I'll be headed out

(01:32:35):
This Sean Salisbury show continues, continueand we will talk to Gil. Gil
what's happening? What's going on?Well, you answering my question during the
break, I was wondering why youwere there not playing golf. I'll be
out there. We tea off atten fifteen this morning, so I'll be
leaving here in about forty five minutes. Okay, So why are you not

(01:32:58):
playing? Why are you You're caddying? Yes, I'm caddying for Salisbury.
Salisbury caught the invite. I didnot to play. So, ok have
you ever caddied before? Uh?No, I haven't. So you're gonna
be walking the whole course unfortunately.Yeah, Yeah, I know, man,
Yeah, I got uh I gotsome new balanced shoes that have like

(01:33:21):
this thick ass sole that I'm gonnawear out there there. I know,
I've I've never actually walked a fullgolf course. Wow, you're why,
I can say. But a questionabout the Astros. Is there any chance
of getting a Guerrero Vlat Guerrero?Yes, sir, Uh yeah, I

(01:33:41):
think there's a chance. I meanthere's been a couple of uh inklings,
if you will, that the BlueJays could potentially be moving him and the
Astros might be suitors. But Idon't know what you'd give up. I
don't know, uh what the blueJays would ask for, But there's a
chance. Course, Yeah, whatdo you think you'd have to give up?
Here? Call man, You'd haveto give up what does a big
leaguer right now? Probably a guylike Chazz and then probably two prospects.

(01:34:05):
You have to bad Jazz well, and then you have to do and then
you have to make a big Imean, there'd be all kinds of things
that you have to do. Butyeah, I mean there're Gil, there
is a chance, I think so. I annoyed at the deadline that we
got Guerrero kind of shape up thefirst first, right he does? Yeah,

(01:34:27):
uh huh uh. All right, well y'all enjoy yourself out there off
the story where you're off in thatwhole dog on course. But yeah,
we'll be all right, have tolive golf room. We're playing with a
couple of pro golfers, so itwon't be too bad. Ye appreciate it,
Gil, thanks for the call.I think what you'd have to give
up a big A big leaguer, current big leaguer, right, Yeah,
you're and a couple of prospects youhave to figure out. I think the

(01:34:50):
Blue Jays need to figure out whatthey're gonna do when if they if they
are really selling and they're they're blowingup the roster and the Guerrero Junior,
the Boba Chat, some of thosenames, some of those arms that do
get moved. Obviously, those arebig pieces in this race for another championship.

(01:35:12):
I don't know if we have enough. Yeah, that's that's the question.
Man. When you're when you haveno prospect capital, Uh, you
have to move someone from the majorleagues, you're just kind of kind of
looking for a good bargain deal.It seems like because we saw last year
how drunk the trade market got andthe cost and ask for just Justin Verlander.

(01:35:34):
Yeah, Drew Gilbert and and RyanClifford. Clifford was a guy you
got off. Uh, you signedover slot, got him off as Vanderbilt
commit, and you moved that guy. And that was that was a lot
of money spent for that decision,on top of what you have to pay
Justin Verletter. So we'll see,we'll see what the Blue Jays do,
because I feel like that's a bigcatalyst in this entire trade market. Yeah,

(01:35:58):
blue Jays are for games out ofthe wild Card. They're like fourteen
games out of the AL East. They're not gonna win the AL East.
In front of the program, misterH. James Click is uh right,
an advisor to that front office withthe Blue Jays. So scoring lover maybe,
yeah, asking praise may be alittle bit more, don't Yeah,
it probably will be. Oh aone percent will be. Blue Jays are

(01:36:21):
twenty nine and thirty two, so, uh look, depending on what they
do. They underachieve every single year, every single year. So if they
move on from or they try totrade lad Guero Junior, it's it's all
gonna depend on what they want todo. Uh hearing about I don't know,
six or so weeks, seven weeksuntil the trade trade deadline. So
you know what I can see aspringer to like an Atlanta you know,

(01:36:45):
they need some outfielders with a youknow, can you going down with that
that knee injury? So what ifspringers in the Atlanta Braves uniform. Let's
see he's hitting two ten this year, Yeah, three h two on base,
he got a six nineteen ops onlyfive bombs father time, brother,

(01:37:05):
it'll get you. There's a coupleof things that are undefeated in life.
Father Time is one of them. That is true. That is true.
So I mean he's still you know, he's George Springer. He's thirty four.
Can you believe he's already thirty four? Crazy? It's crazy. Ten
years in V ten years ago,he made his debut with the Houston Astros.

(01:37:26):
He's already been in the league forten years. He's one of the
He's he's for me. He's theone that I wish they would have locked
up or at least brought him backfor another couple of years. A lot
of people say, Carlos Korea, you were never you had you had no
chance of bringing George not George SpringerGarrett cole back. Yeah, no chance.
He was the one that I wantedto keep the most, him at

(01:37:48):
the leadoff spot. I know it'sunconventional and everything made out to be him
as a leadoff guy, but Iloved him in the leadoff spot. George
Springer. Uh, he's gonna bea National's Hall of Famer one day.
Right, Let's see. You haveto think the six years World Series MVP

(01:38:09):
isn gonna get his number, notnumber retired, but he'll be up there
in the Astros Hall of Fame.Six years with the team, drafted by
him, grew up in the organization. Yeah, he'll be He'll be an
Astros Hall of Famer for sure.He was a big part of the big
part of this run. I thinkyou you would think him George Prayer mm

(01:38:32):
hmm, Korea, Yeah, obviously, all two they he'll be a Hall
of Famer, Hall of Famer andnumber retired. Oh, they'll have a
statue for him, your Don BregmanVerlander, So those are locked in.
When we're gonna see well, wellwe'll see that twenty years down the road,
whatever it is. Yeah. MichaelBrandley mm, I don't know,

(01:38:53):
if you spend enough time here, how much do you think they miss him?
Not even in a line in thelineup, but just him in the
clubhouse. I think you make areally good point. I think there was
a leadership void with obviously Dusty retiring, Maulnall going to Chicago, Hectorannaire's going

(01:39:14):
to Chicago, and Michael Brandley retiring. I think there was a lot of
and I just a vacuum, andyou don't see a lot of outspoken leaders
and we haven't really seen. We'vealways seen a few, but that's a
lot of a lot of leadership thathad to be filled in. I think
you make a really good point.I would I would have Michael Brandley in

(01:39:38):
my dugout and in my clubhouse everysingle day. I would offer him some
sort of spot. I know he'slike a special advisor or he was doing
some stuff within the spring training rolethat he had, but I would make
him an offer to be a partof my organization in some former fashion every
single day. He should be there. All right, Let's get to some
Texans talk. Pat McAfee and JJWatt spoke about c J. Shroud yesterday.

(01:39:59):
Let's hear that audio discuss next onSpot Suck seven to eighty. The
Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Pat McAfeehad JJ Watt on and they asked about
c J. Stroud. C JStroud making a lot of media appearances,
hanging out with Michael Pars's they've beendoing podcasts together. Uh, they've been.

(01:40:19):
They went over to Japan and throughoutthe first pitch they've done a lot
together. C J. Stroud, having a lot of confidence, ranked himself
number three in the NFL as faras quarterbacks, Pat McAfee asked JJ Watt
if he had an issue with cJ. Stroud doing a lot of talking.
This is how it sounded. Iwould like to do a quick interview

(01:40:39):
with you. How do you feelas the face of the city of Houston,
in Houston, Texans, most specifically, that CJ. Stroud is just
out here on a chitty chatter toursawing down there all their quarterbacks, all
their teams and talking is dumping onthe Colts. You got if we won.

(01:41:00):
By the way, I love cJ. Stroud. I think we
all love c J. Shroud,but there's a lot of people sitting c
J. Stroud is doing a lotof talking right now. How do you
feel about this and what are yourthoughts on the entire thing. I don't
mind it as long as you backit up. That's how it always goes.
Sports are backing it up. Imean talking on the Colts. He
beat the Colts, so we wonthe division. We beat the Colts.
Boy, he got a lot ofchirp and you wouldn't want to I'm just
saying, I'm just saying that's JJWatt. Excuse me. His big ass

(01:41:26):
was in a big garbage bin likea big trash can. They were doing
that ice bucket thing, you know, like the ice what is it the
cold plunge interviews that Kevin Hart does. They tried to get JJ Watt in
one of those big rubber Maid trashcans and he couldn't fit, Like he
got like his knees and let's sayone quad got his knees and waste in

(01:41:47):
it. But uh, I thinkit's I mean, it's a it's a
valid question. He's been doing alot of talking, I mean, but
there's no signs of c J.Stroud not backing it up. He has
arguably the best wider even core infootball right now. Arguably, I think
they're gonna put up as a asa fan of the Shield and unbiased,

(01:42:08):
I feel like they're gonna put aton of offensive numbers up with just all
these weapons and how great c J. Stroud was as a rookie, he's
only gonna get better. I mean, you're going to see the growth.
Obviously they're gonna be uh. Wetalked about it on the baseball side,
but once you have more tape, you know, they can find more tendencies.
And I think with CJ. Stroud. It's it's something where he just

(01:42:31):
gets better. It was the morecompetition and the more chirping. And and
I don't I mean, he's he'syoung, Like, who cares, it's
his off season. Yeah, Likehe's he's doing cool. So I would
be doing the same thing, dude. I would be going on the same
damn tour with him and Michael Parsons. Do they play in the All Star
Game together for j Yeah? Man, Japan, you want to send me

(01:42:53):
over there and mic me up?Yeah, dude, in a heartbeat.
And you can't knock a guy forhaving confidence in his own ability. Yeah.
And if he was chirping in season, yeah, maybe there's an issue
problem. It's the off season.Yeah, when this when when the whistle
blows, he's gonna he's gonna lockin. And he's right, he's gonna
what we saw last year just bea stone cold killer and throwing for three

(01:43:17):
hundred yards and making you look like, what the heck does happened? And
and he's he's so good at atthe offense, gonna be better. They're
they're all gonna be growing together.Yeah, they're gonna put up a lot
of points. Yeah. I justthink man like I feel like in today's
day and age, we get SoI'm not saying Pat McAfee or JJ Watt
got offended or anything by obviously theydidn't with CJ. Strout talking. But

(01:43:40):
I just feel like we are soquick to I wouldn't say gets sensitive to
it, but like we always haveto make some sort of negative comment for
a guy being confident in his ownability. He had a hell of a
rookie season. Now there's a caseto be made that he has to come
out and do it again and getbetter. Because they loaded up this off
season on both sides, defense andoffense, you still have. You have

(01:44:03):
basically your entire offensive line coming back. A lot of guys are healthy again
and hopefully they stay healthy. That'salways the key in the NFL is an
offensive line that can block for yourstar quarterback, which that is CJ.
Stroud. He's coming into his secondyear. So then you got to think,
oh, sophomore slump, which Idon't think is going to happen,
but the kids confident. You wantthat in your leader. You want that

(01:44:26):
in your franchise quarterback. The Texashave longed for a franchise quarterback for so
damn long. You thought you hadit into Shaun Watson until he became a
total freaking weirdo and doing everything thathe did off the field and obviously forcing
his way out and the rift betweenhim and Bill O'Brien, so forth and
so on. But now you haveCJ. Stroud who was the offensive rookie
of the year. You got WillAnderson defensive rookie of the year. You

(01:44:47):
got those guys coming back. Youhave Stefan Diggs, you have Nico Collins,
you have Tank Dell, John Metchiin these mandatory minute camps, and
again, I know it's just mandatorymini camps, but there's been a lot
said about John Metchi looking more explosive, of him coming back from his battle
with leukemia, like battling for hislife, and you could see some rust
all last year. He's another guythat's gonna fit right in with this offense.

(01:45:10):
You still have Dalton Schultz as yourtight end. You got Brevin Jordan,
you got the the young tight endfrom I believe Ohio State that played
with c. J. Strouden College. I mean, you can go on
and on with the weapons that thisteam has offensively and defensively, and your
leader is enjoying the first of hislabor as a rookie or that what he

(01:45:31):
did as a rookie. So Idon't have an issue with it. And
it's not like he's out in cabochright, he's not pulling a he's not
pulling a what's the dude's name,Odell Beckham junior right, partying on yachts
and stuff, and you know, not focusing on his career. I mean.
And I also think when you inany sport, when you go from

(01:45:54):
college to professional sport, it becomesa business and then you you hear time
time again like people say, oh, you know, I miss college,
I missed the thrill and blah blahblah. I honestly feel like these guys
are playing like if they were incollege. Like they have so much energy,
so much uh will to win,and you can just tell that they're

(01:46:17):
one. They're pushing each other whenyou and when you get all these alpha
players around each other, they're gonnaan ouph is gonna emerge. But you're
also gonna push each other in competitionbreed success. But these guys are having
fun. Yeah, and you sawit last year and you're gonna see it
again this year. And there's somany times you see it where you know,
quarterback takes thirty five percent of thecap space, The receiver wants his

(01:46:41):
money, the running back, runningbacks across the league, the money is
dwindling. The star defensive player wantshis you know contract, the left the
left guar left tackle that's been therefor seven years, once his you know,
his contract renegotiate in Houston. They'rejust they're just vibing down there.
They they got their handshakes, they'redancing, they're ready to go. Yeah,
and they're gonna put up a lotof points. And it's it's interesting

(01:47:02):
because you became last year, youwere the hunter, like we said,
now you're gonna be hunted. Ithink they're gonna they're gonna thrive in that.
I think they're gonna embrace that. So, uh, it's gonna be
really interesting to see as once again, as I said, a fan of
the shield, uh and unbiased.Uh, I'm I'm really pumped to see
this offense go to work. AndI was, honestly, we're sleeping on

(01:47:25):
the defense. Yeah, like no, what's talking about the defense. And
I think it's gonna be a topdefense in this League. Yeah, it's
gonna be one of one of Iwould. I would if they stay healthy.
It's arguably a top probably top three, top five defense with the guys
that they added on and Dez mentioneduh being the hunted. Marcus Spears talked
about that exact sentiment in the HoustonTexans. Let's here and discuss an excellent

(01:47:46):
sportsblock seven to eighty. Hey,Sean, here for Country Boys Roofing and
yes, it's storm season, solet's get you protected. Locally owned and
operated company. They're not storm chasers. Country Boys Roofing, and with these

(01:48:10):
when you mentioned my name is SeanSalisbury. One thousand dollars discount. COUNTRYBOYSROOFINGLLC
dot Com. Countryboys roofingllc dot com. Why You're back? This is the
Sean Salisbury Show. Get back atIt NFL Live yesterday, and he spoke
to Hannah's Storm about the Texans goinginto this coming season with a target on

(01:48:35):
their back, and that's what youhave to say. How do they go,
Marcus, from being well, they'regonna be the hunted now they're not
the hunters anymore. Everyone has abullseye on the Texans. How do you
anticipate that going maturation? That's allthat this will be about. They have
the tech and now everybody knows howgood this football team is and how good

(01:48:59):
Seed has made and accentuated everybody else'stalents around him. And obviously you had
Stephan Diggs in the offseason. Tankdalewill be coming back off of injury.
My key thing in Nico Collins justgetting signed and getting a new deal,
so he's going to be around. My thing will be ball distribution will I
can't wait to hear Tim talk aboutthat. It's to me, it's pressed

(01:49:21):
upon CJ to make sure not thatthese guys are happy, it's that they
understand what we need to do togive ourselves the best chance to win game
in and game out. That won'tbe one guy I believe as the essential
target for him to have a tremendousamount of success. Last year, what
I thought CJ did a phenomenal jobwas was identifying not only coverages, but

(01:49:45):
identifying who was winning and seeing awill that he can continue to go back
to throughout the points of a game, so he could have a tremendous amount
of success. Now it got awhole lot easier and a less confusing.
When Tankdale got hurt, he knewNiko Collins was his guy. But we
saw the tight ends have a bigimpact in a role. We saw the
running backs getting involved in this offense. Bald distribution, and how he manages

(01:50:10):
all of those guys to make surethat they understand what is gonna take to
win games and not what it's gonnatake for them to get money catches and
touchdowns. That was Marcus Spears onESPN NFL Live with Hannah Storm. Excuse
me that? And does I thinkit brings up a couple of good points
in regards to c J. Stroudand how he's gonna handle all of these

(01:50:32):
weapons. Everything's been made out withStefan Dick's coming here, always gonna be
upset. Nico Collins is probably theirnumber one wide receiver. How's he gonna
fit in? Is he gonna be? You know? Diva? This diva
that tank Tel's back. I mean, you got Joe Mixon. Now you

(01:50:53):
have Dalton Schultz returning, I thinkthey're gonna be okay. Yeah, let's
get to the open Guy's give itto the open guy. You know you
want to take tankedlle leads the teamand in receiving yards. That's a good
bet. It's a good bet Ithink you have with the young quarterback and

(01:51:15):
all these weapons, a young oc. Everyone circling the Houston Texans on their
schedule now, uh huh. Ithink they're gonna go and put a show
because they know everyone's going after them. They know that they are the young
hot team in the NFL. Theyknow the aspirations of winning Super Bowl are

(01:51:41):
there. They're young and hot.Huh, boss, I think they're gonna
put on a show. They have. I believe it's like the third or
fourth hardest schedule on paper this comingseason. And look, there's still that
Patrick Mahomes guy. There's still doplay Kansas City late in the season.
Yeah, and they do play Baltimorelate in the season. There's some there's

(01:52:04):
some teams still there. They gottathey gotta beat and show that they can
win in the playoffs. Who atthose spots possibly put a put a Texans
hat on real quick. Okay, put my NFL shield hat on? Got
it? Ye? Who do youwant to beat more? The Kansas City

(01:52:26):
Chiefs or the Baltimore Ravens. Sothe argument of beating the champs or beating
the team that knocked you up?Yeah, man, I beat the champs.
See for me. I want tobeat the absolute breaks off the Ravens.
I want to beat the breaks offof them. Of course you want

(01:52:47):
to. You want to take downthe reigning champs. They've been so good
for it's every single season, dude, Patrick Mahomes finding ways to to get
his team to the playoffs, andthen they roll through the playoff and then
he find finds ways to win ina super Bowl at the at the highest
level. Like it's it's it's uncannywhat he does. He's unbelievable. He's
gonna go down as one of thegreatest to ever do it. I want

(01:53:09):
to beat the breaks off of theRavens. Yeah, because they they they
put it on the Texans in theplayoffs. I mean for second half,
but yeah, second half. Yes, I think with this team, they're
gonna just have to figure out howto keep all the noise out, you
know, the famous Nick Saban, the rat. Don't don't take the rat

(01:53:30):
poison, you know. Yeah,Because there's gonna be Steven A. There's
gonna be anfold notewhere, there's gonnabe the Pat McAfee's. They're gonna be
every single person talking about this teamand when they're winning and they're gonna win,
yep, how do you block allthat out? And I think that's

(01:53:51):
why Dimigo Ryans is the best guyfor the job, because he's so good
at he's a leader of men.Yeah, and that's what you want.
You want a leader of men.Out of my mouth, I was literally
gonna go to to Demico Ryans. He's the guy, like, he's the
guy you wanted. He was themost sought after coach. And that's no
disrespect to Sean Payton. Two yearsago. The Texans went out and they

(01:54:12):
got their guy, and now witha really good roster on paper, he's
the guy you wanted the head becauseI don't think he hears the noise.
I mean, here's the noise. He doesn't pay attention to it, and
you hit it perfectly. Literally,I was gonna say, he's a leader
of men, that's what you wantin a head coach and he is the
perfect guy for this group. AndI think I think there, Okay,

(01:54:34):
I'll bring it into like your experienceyou played at University Houston Victoria. Your
head coach was Terry Poole, Astro'sHall of Famer. Did you have a
respectful fear for him as your headcoach, Like you could go to him
and talk baseball, but you knowthat if he's gonna if there's a time
that he's gonna rip your ass,he's gonna do it. Yeah, I
think it. And you have tohave the mindset to learn and grow from

(01:54:56):
that because he's coming from a spotthat he's seen it a thousand times.
If you're done it thousand times,if you're not failing, you're not growing.
And if you're if your head coachisn't like, if you've never received
an ash chewing from your head coach, then then you're not You're not it's
not real. Yeah, And yousee, like I had a respectful fear
for my head coaching college coach, coach Mesker. I had a respectful fear,

(01:55:17):
but we had a very good relationshipand I learned so much from him,
and I learned the most through failure, and so I feel like these
guys with the Texans have that forTamiko Ryans and you know what, they
probably have. I would have thatgame running on loop throughout the luck against
Ravens against Ravens. I'm sitting there, sitting in it, and I'm like,

(01:55:40):
you know what, that's that's myobviously Super Bowl aspirations and all that
aside. Yeah, those guys beatus in the second half. Yeah,
you know what, We're coming outand we're gonna we're gonna take a revent
for every single team because they beatus. And I think we said leader
then with Demiko, you have allthe offensive weapons and this team can win
in different ways. We saw it. We saw games where Stroud was less

(01:56:05):
than three hundred yards and they foundways to win late. They found different
ways to whether it was Stroud leadingthe team down for a touchdown or field
or the defense holding in the inthe red zone. You find ways to
win in the NFL. Just getin, get your seed, get everything
in, and then you can justgo to work. That's when the real
season starts. And we've seen itwith the Ashes. I think the Ashes

(01:56:26):
have done over. They have thisreal workman like mentality where when that calendar
flips, it's like, Okay, let's go to work. And I think
you're gonna see with the Houston Texasthis year where it's like, Okay,
we did what we had to do, we won these games whatever it is,
playoffs, Yeah, let's go towork. Yeah, I think so,
man. And obviously a mandatory minicamper on along this morning. That's
gonna do it for us, standOr Fleet and Chris Gordon gonna take taking

I'm gonna say the Niners respectively gottriple e. Emmanuel, he's sitting
on the other side of the glass. They appreciate his production and programming prowess.
Don't worry. Next up, we'llbe doing what we do from ten
to noon. Coming up here inabout an hour, so we're filling in

(01:59:47):
for the guys, Chris Gordy alongside. Shortly you want to get into the
show seven one three, two onetwo five seven ninety again. Astros off
today and that's where we start.I'm be honest with you, and I
was telling the guys that during theexchange, I don't know what the hell
that was. I watched yesterday fromthe Houston Astros, the closest comp that

(02:00:10):
I could provide to you, Cityof Houston, that version of the Astros
I watch. I'm talking about strictlyfrom a lineup standpoint, and that looked
like the Davis Mills Texans. Imean, what are we looking? And
I understand No, No, KyleTucker as he's out with a leg contusion,
Alex Bregnant, he gets a dayoff with a hand contusion. Who

(02:00:34):
else was that? Was? RiGetty that got hit on the calf.
He has a contusion and Rondel Blancogoes out there. Last night, Ronel
Blanco gets the loss. So thelineup just looked odd from the word go
al two V? What'd you giveme? Big boy? With Kyle tucking

(02:00:54):
down in the lineup and no breadgowhat'd you give me? L two V?
Stand? I'm gonna go zero forthree for you? Okay, that's
cool. Jeremy Pina in the twohole. Remember that conversation from yesteryear.
Okay, Pinion's like, I gotsomething for you fleet two for four,
big Yard on your daddy, whatyou got step up. We're trying to
sweep a series here, trying tomake up some ground Tripolin, What are

(02:01:15):
you want to give me? Not? I him went, oh for four?
Jake Mis you've been raking, Yeah, Jake from Rake Farm. Yeah,
I'm gonna go over for two standSingleton Opher down at the bottom of
lineup. There's Hose there bred you. He's at first base. He's back
in one seventeen. Him goes over. Mauriceo Dubon, you're at third with

(02:01:38):
Alex Bregman being out staying, Ican get you a hit. The Astros
yesterday combined four five hits. Brad, that's it. Oh. Of those
five hits, let's talk about whathappened though. Of the two runs,
the whopping two, excuse my atthe Astro score those two runs. Excuse

(02:02:03):
me of the five hits, thetwo runs scored. We're in two swings.
Give me Yanniya Das. Let's bragon him. Yan in DS bottom
of the fifth, He's gonna gothree hundred and forty four feet. Let
me hear that triple lee. Let'sgo yany In Das play by play five,
I like kew he played a golfswinging for you. That's what Salisbury

(02:02:24):
is going to do today. Thatis one of just two winning records he
has had in his career. Here'sthe pitch. This one hit deep to
right field, over and back, looking up and that boss Yanni and Das
Garlason was at the wall, madea leap for it, couldn't get it
and for the third straight game, diner dz ghost d for the Astros are

(02:02:45):
on the board. It's three toone Saint Louis, Okay, three to
one. By the way, AstrosRadio Network Robert ford Off eschenfelder Ian alongside
Steve Sparks Astros Radio Network. Shortlythereafter, some guy named Trey Cabbage.
He's been hanging out. Who theyjust sent down and who we was making

(02:03:09):
fun of him yesterday? Gord,Who did they just sank Castle? Yeah,
Kessinger's been stealing checks. Kessinger goesdown to triple A Cabbage. He's
up. Cabbage's like, all right, I can give you a little some
fleet. Let's go four one hundredand nine feet to right center shot with
miss Cabbage. Play by play. There we go. Waggle's that bat and
this one hit well to right fieldagain. Burlason, he's going back and

(02:03:31):
he'll watch that one go back toback home runs. That one over the
bullpen and right center field at TreyCabbage. That's his first home run of
the season. The Astros now downthree to two. Okay, thus concludes
our Astro's offense three to two.I thought we were rolling Gordon a whopping
five hits, two of those beingfor homers solo homers. At that Normally

(02:03:57):
we would come here and bitch acomplaining mom about runners left in scoring position.
Here's why I can't do that today, because they didn't leave runners in
scoring position. Why because runners werenever in scoring position the Astros were.
Astros left three men on oh forone with runners in scoring position. Ronel
Blanco got beat around a little bit. We'll talk more about him. You're

(02:04:19):
released. Yesterday was the long isthe shortest game of the year for hours
exact. I mean we call itgetaway day for a reason. They play
now. Look they have an offday today, but they were going getting
on a plane out to La.Now the Cardinals play today. They had
to get back home to go playthe Rockies today. So it was almost
like both teams yesterday looked like thebags were packed and they're like, come,

(02:04:42):
yeah, start to go, startthe car to the airport. Will
just turn ac up. Maybe inthere in a minute. I'll tell you
what. Since what they telling meis up right now, inflation is up.
How about we carpooled together. Willtwo teams will leave men and may
park together. We'll both head upthe bush, we'll get on planes and
we'll go our separate ways. Howabout that? They were ready to get

(02:05:02):
the hell out of there. Gordon, what was that lineup? I don't
know if you heard me open theshow, but that lineup yesterday due to
injury looked like the damn Davis MillsTexans. What was that? Look at
the names that were out there andwhere they were. Dubon had to play
third yesterday. Okay, well butthat was last minute. In fact,

(02:05:24):
we found that out, uh rightwhen we got off the area yesterday before
before the game, that they hadsaid Bregman was fine and he was gonna
and he was gonna be okay, and then literally like an hour before first
pitch there they scratch him. JakeMyers, who they were gonna give the
day off. Suddenly they go,Jake, you're in You're in center.
Dubon you're not in center anymore,You're at third, and Cabbage goes right,

(02:05:45):
Uh, well he was gonna, but he was gonna play anyway.
Yes, yeah, I mean, look you on the surface, Alex Bergman's
been heating up. He's been oneof your hottest bats the last two weeks.
And you know, Kyle Tucker's havinga VP caliber season. He's been
awesome. So you take both thosebats out of the lineup, clearly you
were going to take a little bitof a step back. I just didn't

(02:06:06):
think, you know, a twovde would go for three four, Jake
Myers, John single to know forfour you know obviously, Jose Bree that's
no surprise there. But they hadfive hits going yeah, I mean,
and that's against Michael Is, who, like he's been up and down all
year. His last two times outhe won six innings three runs apiece.
But he was much better in themonth of June. But I'm sorry the

(02:06:30):
month of May, but he hadan awful April, and I just I
thought the Astros would would get afterhim. It always sucks to stand losing,
Like when you win a series, but you do it by winning the
first two and losing the third,It always leaves a bad taste in your
mouth. Whereas if you flip itand you lose game one and then you
win game two and three, whatdo you feel, Oh, we're feeling
good. Those bats came alive. It just flips because yes, your last

(02:06:57):
game play, yes, something tothe optics of it, but I go
to the context they should be sweepingSaint Louis. Now, I'll take the
series win. I'm not gonna complainabout that part. But that game yesterday
was winnable even without the two peoplein the lineup we mentioned Kyle Tucker and
Bregman, Ronel Blanco had been nails. Blanco goes out there for five and

(02:07:20):
two thirds and gives up four ninetyeight pitches. They ran up his count
nows E Ray is still healthy attwo point seven eight. He struck out
two. And then you you juxtaposethat to what the bullpen did for the
Cardinals. Their bullpen No Urn runsthree innings, quality ball everybody in their

(02:07:45):
bullpen two point oh three, twopoint seven seven, and then Hellsley gets
to save his twentieth of the seasonat two point three to three. Because
of where the Cardinals are from athey're one of the best team in terms
of closing out games. They're liketop five in the majors in terms of
total saves. I didn't think withthat lineup the Astros are gonna claw back

(02:08:07):
in it. So here's what Iwant to do. I want to call
that one to one sixty two.To your point, Astros bags were packed.
They knew they had the series andthey were okay, we're just letting
one get away. But that's thethat's just crazy, Gordon. They were
zero for one with runners and scoringposition. They couldn't even get a dude
on to move them around. Yeah, I mean, you gotta you gotta

(02:08:31):
have base runners. And again theythey what pissed me off most was even
when it was close. Do youknow what was it? The sixth inning
was a it was a six pitchinning, and the seventh inning was a
seven pitch inning, Like, ohyeah, they first pitch swinging, first
pitch swinging. They're trying to getthe hell out that quick. Two outs,
like, come on, all right, Astros come up short. They

(02:08:54):
lose four to two versus the Cardinalsin some afternoon baseball. Yesterday, they
got on the plane and flew toCalifornia. Astros off today. They will
resume action tomorrow night out in Anaheim. With that being said, we are
the home of the Astros. Thisis the Shawn Salisbury Show. For another
Oh what's my man? Forty eightminutes? Next up, we'll start promptly

(02:09:15):
at ten am per USU. Well, on the other side, let's open
up the phone line seven one three, two one two five seven ninety They
win the series, but does itfeel that way? Sports Talk seven ninety
KB and Meen functionally hied to theteam. The Sean Salisbury show continues.
Hi, let's go look short.Yesterday four to two, five total hits.

(02:09:39):
The Astros had two of those hitsthe two runs they scored obviously solo
homers. Stand Northfleet. That's ChrisGordy right there. Appreciate the manual e
class sitting in his customary position. We are filling in for Shawn Salisbury and
Brian Lilima as they are off withLive Houston today. Salisbury had a tea

(02:10:00):
time. I think la Lima's goingto Caddy. But we all watched afternoon
baseball for the Houston Astros yesterday andthat lineup, I mean, it looked
like and I'm not mad at aspot for who he put where. I'm
somewhat mad at I'm halfway mad atthe production, and I'm just halfway mad
at this is just where the twentyfour Astros are. They take a step

(02:10:24):
forward and then they take two back, whether that be due to injury,
whether that be during base running, whether that be during you know, eerrors
in the field. Sometime it's aspot in the lineup. Sometimes it's just
dudes that suck Jose air braid.Sometimes JV gets shelled in the first inning

(02:10:46):
it's always something. Yesterday, wecan't blame runners in scoring position. They
couldn't get in scoring position. Theywere zero for one with three men left
on base in nine inns. Ijust want to see some more competitive bats.
Look if you if you work afull count and then fly out,

(02:11:07):
fine like that. And that wasthe one thing the Astros always felt like
they were so good at seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty one, twenty
two, like they were always goodat working at bats. Now two.
Vey has always had the proclivity tojump on the first pitch. It's what
he does and that's why he's gotyou know, so he's among the league
leaders in lead off home runs becausehe's he's good at jumping on that first

(02:11:28):
pitch. But I just get sofrustrated, stale when it's like two guys
back to back jump on the firstpitch and it's a ground out, pop
out or fly out, and it'slike you're not making his pitcher work.
I mean that they took Michaelis out. He was at like sixty something pitches.
That dude literally could have pitched acomplete game yesterday. Michael. They
wanted it wasn't cruise control. Hecould have done anything he wanted to do.

(02:11:52):
He ended up to your point sixtytwo pitches. His EI is down
to five point three to two, going, yeah, that's who beat Dashed
yesterday. And by the way,Astros with that lost yesterday, are now
below five hundred at many May Park. We're back to having that conversation.
They're seventeen and eighteen. Well, but that's but they have played much better
at home this year. I meanit's for for a while there it was

(02:12:15):
they were incredible at home and justall got off on the road. But
I still think that's them dropping ball. I don't think that has anything to
do with them, okay, notplaying well at home. It's just they
haven't played well overall. I meananywhere, Gordon. If they are below
five hundred at home, they're notgetting to the postseason. I'm saying,
you had an opportunity to sweep ateam at home and they did not do

(02:12:39):
so well. This is what's toughabout it is. I said, this
next month of very winnable games andyou gotta go win. But the hard
part is it's hard. It's hardto sweep a team, and even a
you know, not a great teamlike the Cardinals, And this is where
playing catch up is so hard.Like this next month, yeah, I

(02:13:01):
project they're gonna have more wins thismonth than losses. But if it's just
a bunch of two out of three, two out of three, two out
of three, it close the gap. But man, you'd love to work
in a sweep here and there, you know what I mean. And yesterday
with Block, like, didn't youfeel it going out even with the lineup
they're putting out there and you don'tknow, bragman, you don't have Tucker,
But didn't you feel like with Blancoon the mound, hey, we
should be able to get a threeto one win here, find a way

(02:13:22):
to manufacture a runner two and let'sgo. I didn't think they were gonna
win two to one. I sawsome people say, oh, you know
at the home like, I justget tired of these home runs that are
so low, Like we can't getsomebody on base, somebody, And that's
why I say, like, workworking it, bat work a walk instead
of these one pitch flyouts. Somebodywork account work a walk and then when

(02:13:43):
the home run comes, I guesswhat's a two run omer or it's a
three run homer? So Saint Louisgoes up two to two to oh in
the fifth who Donovan singles to writeand then Burlison doubles to write in the
same inning. So top of thefifth they go up three zero. And
the way it looked at that point, I was like, Yeah, it's

(02:14:05):
a rap. I just don't trustthese twenty four astros. Do I think
they'll make the postseason. I'm stillmaintaining hope. What are they right now?
They are seven games back as ofthis morning, seven games back as
of this morning. Specifically, specificallyto Ronell Blanco, I keep waiting for

(02:14:26):
him to turn back into a pumpkin. He had a phenomenal start and it's
still not bad. He takes thel yesterday, but I keep going.
Can he sustain this? Last year? In a similar position, Hunter Brown
and JP Franz could not. Joea spotter was ass specifically, man,
let me get this a spot offour please. He was asked specifically about

(02:14:48):
Rondelle Blanco's performance in the fifth inning. You know, that's kind of like
the nick that I saw many yearsago, that the slider really good.
You know, he's the funkiness tohis deliver and that's that's on the reliever,
you know, police solid in Ohokay, he was just playing the

(02:15:09):
whole post skip he that that clip. He was talking about the reliever that
acquired Neck Hernandez. All right,he's very good debut. Let me go
to a spot of eight. ThenI think he's throwing the ball exceptionally well.
If he keeps doing what he's doing, I take that every every outing.

(02:15:30):
Can Ronel Blanco do this? Meaning? I mean, obviously yesterday he
can't beat that five and two thirds, allowing five his for earn, striking
out just too and walking to hecan't do that. He been nailed up
unto that point. Mostly Yeah,I think he just kind of ran out
of gas there. And then histeam because we talked a lot about pitching
yesterday, with the news of Javierand r Katie being done for the year,

(02:15:54):
they're gonna have to ride Ronel Blanco. Why ver Lander and Fromberg?
Are you are? You're still yourone and two? Notice that Blanco,
You're you're three. But he's pitchedlike a one over all this whole season.
There's a difference in pitching like aone and being a one. I'm
asking, do you believe Ronel Blancowhen they have to lean on him before

(02:16:16):
you get to Brown and arrogating. They got to lean on ron Al Blanco.
He's got the team best e RRA, he's got the most wins on
the team. Yeah, there,he's gonna have to go. Dude,
I'm not gonna believe he can takeyou there. Yeah, I'm not gonna
get mad at the guy because hehad because his last two outings, yeah,
he gave the four runs of bothof them. But like, I'm
not gonna freak out like that's everypitcher has ups and downs, Like if

(02:16:39):
that's his down, then that's areally good down, because again he's a
really good down. Is giving upfour iron, Yeah that's you. I
mean, stop this. Say wetalk about night in night, this offense
should give. It's good enough togive you five runs a night if you
win the game five to four yesterday, we're sitting here. We're not talking
about runnup Blanco today. Now that'sfive to four, and then you're telling
me the pan can't give up arun your bully pick they I'm saying.

(02:17:00):
You're saying overall, normally the penhas to be allotted a run or two,
which is why your starter must beyou expect a starter to go out
every time. Go back and lookat Justin Verlander of the year he won
the cy Young. He still haveone or two starts that year where he
gave up four or five runs, like it happens SEPs and flows of a
sec. It's Justin Verlander versus. The question is to the inexperienced Roniel Blanco

(02:17:22):
and his meteoric rise, He's fine. Do you think they can depend on
him as they make this push? They can't afford? Why? Why this
get you five wins already this year? He's jas b Franz did that last
year? And could we count onFrance? And at this point Dal's awesome.
Stop the cow. He's not onyou. He's not one we have

(02:17:45):
to worry about right now. Sowhat you kill me with? This blind
faith you have in anybody that putson a Nastros uniform. You are never
concerned about anybody not named joseir BrayYou ever, how is that possible watching
the same games as all of us? Yeah, let me pose that to
the people. Seven three two pointtwo five seven ninety Your confidence in this

(02:18:07):
staff, these five dudes that takeus the rest of the way JV fromber
because right from has been the pictureof consistency. A dude named Roniel Blanco
and his meteoric rise takes the lyesterday. Hannah Brown, who tapped out
he'd been playing awful ball this year. He's had some decent moments. He

(02:18:31):
tapped out last year ran out ofgas. Oh and Spencer Earraghetty, who
six minutes ago was eating the damnlunchable on the damn yellow bus going to
l Passo to play Triple A ball. This is what we're depending on to
get us there. I'm open toother alternatives. Do you have another alternative?
Yes, of the role who wegot, there's no other options.

(02:18:52):
That's not the question. The question. There are options. Dana Brown's gotta
go to work, and you knowwhat around has no money to say.
I'm gonna ask Dana Brown. Hespoke to the people before the game yesterday,
and he spoke on this network yesterdayas well. I need to hear
from Dana Brown on the other sidetalking to some stros, your Homa Astros
Baseball Sports Talk seven eight. We'reout there, DeShawn sounds very show continued.

(02:19:15):
You know, if you look atour rotation now our rotation is really
it's really good, Bill. Youknow, well we have you know,
the veteran and Verlander of course, and the veteran in Valdez. And then
uh, you know Blanco getting himuh into the rotation, the the idea
to put him into the rotation. That's been big. It's been one of

(02:19:35):
our best pitchers. And then wehave two young guys who are turning the
corner Arrogetty and Brown. These guyshave been pitching very well. You know,
Raghetty took a line drive off thecast yesterday, but he's gonna be
He's gonna be all right. Butlook, our rotation is still intact.
We still have a you know,a playoff type rotation. No, you

(02:19:56):
don't frontline guys. I mean,if we get into any we're getting,
we get into the playoffs, wecan we can battle anybody with our front
two and then you know, ourour our three. After that, you
know, we have we have JVand we have foul Dead and as our
front two. And then you knowwhat Blanco was throwing the ball well,
and and then of course the twoyoung guys to turn in the corner.
So I really think that uh,you know, losing these guys, it's

(02:20:20):
very unfortunate, but I think ultimatelywe're still in position to go on a
run. We're still in position tohit the postseason. Uh, it's not
time to hit the panic button yet. And so I still fully feel really
good about it. As I mentioned, were over the last twenty three you
know games, we got a threeh five run average for our starters.

(02:20:41):
So I think I think our pitchingis gonna be okay. Joe manager Dana
Brown or the Houston Astros. Thatwas pregame yesterday, prior to Blanco going
out there and bleeping the bed,he didn't bleep the bad Blanco played.
He gave up a couple of dingers. If your offense shows up, you
you're winning that game six to four. We're not even talking about him five

(02:21:05):
and two thirds. Yeah, it'smagnified because you scored two runs. That's
I mean. I've been saying thisall season. When the offense doesn't show
up, we're gonna we're gonna holdthe pitcher to you or supposed to be
excellent. You're supposed to be sixshutout innings. No, No, it's
unfair to hold them. The gameof baseball is about pitching. Ronell Blanco
didn't play winning He did not pitchwinning baseball yes day, and yet he

(02:21:26):
is still one of the ten bestpitchers in all the baseball nobody. Oh
no, but the numbers say, don't do nobody, only watch games.
There's not a single person that believerone Blanco is not going to win a
cy young. He's having a fantastictwo months. I hope it continues,
but we gotta get out of thisbecause the guy's a flash and a pan
for now we get to the endof the year. You're right, let's

(02:21:48):
dump them. This bum shee worthnothing. It's either feast or famine with
you. Well, like I don'tunderstand, Like, no, what do
you mean. He's all you haveto be is your third best pitcher.
He has been on that. TheHouston Astros playoff hopes are hinging on scroll.
We're trying to just get back toabove five hundred right now. The
goal goal is the postseason. I'mnot worried about JV. I do have

(02:22:13):
concerns about from of vel days andregardless of what Dana Brown tells me,
this rotation is not good enough ascurrently constituted, and I find it mighty
bleeping ironic that hours after you andI had this conversation yesterday on Next Up,
which is coming your way in twentytwo minutes. By the way,
Oh, by the way, thisI'm staying Nest Gordon. What's feeling in
for Shans Bearing Brian Laalima? Amainly class. He's in schef. Back

(02:22:35):
to what I'm saying about Dana Brownand that damn lie. He's telling me
stop this DV what lie? TheOh our rotation is intact and we're still
signed. What's he supposed to say? He's supposed to say, I'm concerned,
and here's how we're going to getout of it. Our bats have
to pick up for what our armsaren't doing. The things have been great

(02:22:56):
the last two weeks. What areyou talking about? Thornton's been fantastic stick
for the last two weeks. Don'tgo back to April starts for Uhetty.
I see a series loss to Minnesota. Yes, I see a series loss
and series Minnesota losses. You scoredone run and three runs. You lost

(02:23:24):
both those games. Is there atrend here? The three losses in Seattle,
the three losses you scored two runs, two runs, one run.
There seems to be a trend herethat when the Astros only score one,
two or three runs they lose theirass. Yet when they put up six
seven runs the starting pitchers is goodenough that they can win game. Interesting
when I look at the stats, the Astros among the league leaders in Major
League Baseball ops, home runs, slugging percentage, batting average, the runs

(02:23:48):
scored. Okay, so that's themost important, most important run. If
my it's complimentary baseball. If thebats aren't clicking, you must be better
on the mound. If you're goingto stink on the mound. Two starts
to go. Justin Verlander with seveninnings of one run ball in Seattle and
they lost the game. What morecan you do there? Pitching wise,

(02:24:09):
I don't complain about JV JV.I trust JV. I don't trust you.
They lost the game. I wantto bring up series. Don't later
lost you that series because he didn'tput your shut out. This is about
the current staff, this rotation thatthey have allowed themselves to put out there
on the field when they had achoice to do something else about it.

(02:24:31):
Now Dana has been pressed into tellingus something that I don't believe. He
believes he's got one starter that's legit. His name is Justin Verlander. We
don't know Rombervalda has been one ofthe best pitchers in base them five years.
What was he the last time wesaw him in the postseason? He
wasn't good. He melts it down. Okay, but that melt down.

(02:24:52):
So because of that, we're justsupposed to crap on him. His numbers
are still some of the best inbaseball. Fromber literally went rogue in a
game and we lost this year. You remember that. I'm not making that
up because then there's also bit Butif you're gonna bring we bring that up,
but we ignore all the other timesit's been awesome. So this is
where I get Do you trust fromor the only one that does? Okay,

(02:25:16):
you're the only one that does.I think Dada Brown does too.
I think Joe Spotted does as well. And the listening people of this city
do not trust from her, nordo they do you propose? Can I
get it out? Nor do theytrust Ronnie al Blanco, nor do they
trust on A Brown? Nor dothey trust Vince Arraghatty. We got one

(02:25:37):
dude that's forty one years older.I trust out there, and Dana Brown
wants me to believe everything get isbleeping over. But I mean, like,
what do you mean like they're upagainst the second luxury tax? If
nobody dance with your brother, noyou don't. I can go get a
new part man. If she's acheater, if she's tired or her feet's
hurt because she's got on those beautifullu batons, Sit your ass down,

(02:25:58):
honey. I don't know your name. What's your name? Erica? Eric
could come dance with men? Well, you're you're you're the you're the You're
the person who lives in the woodlandswho starts wearing Rangers capsules. I've always
been a Rangers fan. Yeah, serious, Jack, what are you talking
about? But like, that's whatyou're saying the most analogy? Are you
saying the team so bad? Ididn't did not say the team they suck.

(02:26:20):
They do suck. The team isnot he they suck. They suck.
They're inconsistent. They are playing stinkybaseball. They have a blow a
series. They are below five hundredat home, they're seven games back,
they dropped a half. They're seventeeneighteen. Oh my god, panic,
they're below five hundred at home. You they gotta play better. Yes,
you got new ways to suck upto the astros? Who's sucking up?

(02:26:45):
Like I'm not trying? You literallynever say anything contrary to what they say.
What are you talking about all thetime? Why is Jose Braves ass
here? Are sending him on theshots Saiwan decades ago? That one is
so egregious that you'd be run outof the city if you said he should
be there. Give me something else. Nobody else in the city, nobody
else in the city trust this staffright now except you. Let me Dane

(02:27:07):
again. Danny wants allowed to mesome more. They got to stay healthy.
But this stuff is solid. Letme it. Dane allowed me some
more. Come on, Dana Browncut for let me hear this. The
guy is drunk. Yeah. Ultimately, we've tapped into our the depth of
our pitching for sure, you know, with the other guys going down,

(02:27:28):
But we still feel like we gota couple of guys in triple A and
something else. Uh, you know. And as you guys have heard me
talk on the show a lot,I'm always in the market to get pitching,
pitching, pitching pitching anytime you canget pitching. Uh, I think
it's gonna help your ball club agood time down. You know, we're
always in the market for pitching.Yeah, there's never a time that we're
not in the market. I've saidthat multiple times. Let's stop it right

(02:27:50):
there, stop it, stop itright there. Dan Brown two months ago
said they were not in the market. They believed that who they had in
the rotation. Would you will callit? Let me post this, how
would you acquire pitching right now? They're not going into the second luxury tax
and there and then you have nothingto trade for a pitcher? Do I
totally do propose me a trade.I totally do propose me at the trade.

(02:28:11):
Am I bringing back Alex Bregman nextyear? No, you can have
him right now because I need anarm. Then you have a huge hole
at third base. Now another problemyouself. Okay, but I'm I'm plugging
the more important on don't to Pleasetell me you're gonna put Dubonnees at every
day third base? Please tell methat. Why wouldn't because then I've got
another hole? What else? Whoneeds a day off? Who plays short
second? Who plays needs a dayyou have? That's what utility man is.

(02:28:33):
Essinger not an infield. Oh mygod, you want to put Gray
Castle? They did. I didn'tput him on the roster. They did.
You live in a world you're creatingmore problems. No, I'm trying
to fix. The most important thingis pitching. They better go get one
if you're not gonna go. ThePortthing is score runs. You scored two

(02:28:54):
yesterday and you lost. Jesus,You're the only person I've ever heard in
the history of baseball say you knowwhat you have during the postseason? Run
scored a more important than playing atthe quality makes the long ball. Let's
go score some runs. I'm soglad you're sitting here. You're not the
skip of a club. This iseveryone that shoot out with the Dodgers.
What did they do all this?Right? They were hitting long bombs.
George Springer was named World Series MVP, right, not Justin Verlander or some

(02:29:16):
of those pictures. Would you wasit? Would you? Would you like
to give me the restarting rotation inthat series? Yeah? In seventeen Justin
and he's still here. Got himback? Who else was in there?
Uh? Was Lance McCullers was adude? Was injured? Charlie Morton who
was very much a journey injured journeymanat the time. Uh huh, yeah,

(02:29:37):
I mean that these were the guysin Dallas. Kaikeel who him.
Yeah, he had an awesome andwe haven't heard from him since. He
just him. He's pitching in likelittle league softball parks right now. He's
so bad. Colin McHugh, who'sout of baseball now like Astro's got the
worst series in seventeen because Julie Gurielwas hitting bombs and George Springer was hitting

(02:30:00):
bombs at Alex Bregman was hitting bombs. I saw Gearret Cole look damn good
and he went on the seventeen tenI finished. I saw Garrett Cole pitch
so damn well that the Yankees threwa damn Liberty statue sized bag at his
ass to get on the plane fromHobby and Hoo Rings. Does Garrick Cole
have a zero? The loser can'twin a title. It's a Shaan Salisbury

(02:30:24):
show, So what saw seven ninetyThis is the Sean Salisbury Show. Salisbury.
That's beautiful. As we get intonext up, starting in about ten
minutes, we're closing out to SeanSalisbury Show, if you missed the first
three hours of the show prior toGordon and I coming in at nine o'clock,
make sure you go to Sports sevenninety dot com or the free iHeartRadio

(02:30:48):
app. Brian Loalima is think he'sthe caddy for Sean Salisbury has Live Houston
right with golfing here in the cityover this weekend. Weather looks beautiful today.
I may have some lunch outside whenwe wrap up. Gordon taking your
phone calls on the Strokes. Gordonand I get heated all the time about
a lot of things, but thisparticular one that the rotation with the injuries

(02:31:11):
yesterday announced the Urkidi and Christian Javierseason ending surgery. We believe it to
be Tommy John even though the teamwon't say that. Dana Brown comes on
here, the flagship for the Astrostells us everything is gonna be okay.
Then Ronel Blanco goes out there andin game three of a three game series
yesterday at the Real Yard, youmean, pitch desa enough for you to

(02:31:33):
win off the batch show up.Yes, four earned runs and five and
two thirds. Gordon is not goodbaseball. It's not terrible, though.
It's why he got the loss. That again, like I'm saying, that's
his worst. A few weeks agowe were praising hunder Brown for going five
innues of four. It's well RonaldBlanco. Again, the expectation for him

(02:31:56):
is he's pitched like an a solier, but the expectations for him just to
be your third best picture. Andhe's doing that. Corner you. He's
gonna win the sion he's in,he's in the running. He's he's top
ten in the American League, andthat in in era he's been awesome to
anything. Of the contrary is isI didn't say he was terrible. What
I said was the pitching yesterday wasn'tgood enough. I asked you, the

(02:32:20):
people your confidence in this rotation.Jason is on the line. Do me
a favorite triple? Would you punchup? Jason bleed? Jason, Welcome
into the show. Yeah, guys, I think we're arguing a little bit
over about nothing here. You know, Blanco's had a good year so far.
He how hell is Blanco thirty eight? I'm not sure we'll find out

(02:32:43):
here show. He's up there.Yeah, and this is the first lady
had a good teacher in the MajorLeague baseball. What makes us think we're
gonna go to October with him asour number three, we're gonna win.
This is what I'm trying to Someguys are limited by opportunity. He finally
got. He got his opportunity hereto if he was the Cantus pitcher,
he wouldn't. He wouldn't. Itwas twenty thirty to get a chance,

(02:33:05):
you know what I mean. Butlooks But here's the thing. Jason,
Like he was old when they foundhim, So it's not like he's been
in the system since he was seventeen. He's just now getting good. Like
the reality is, if he cangive you three, four, five years
of being awesome, I mean we'lltake that. Like noways saying, like
he's got to be the guy forthe next decade. I guess what I'm

(02:33:26):
getting at is, Okay, let'ssay we do quick in the playoffs.
In my opinion, we're a fivehundred team, you know right now,
nothing nothing better. Let's say wedo good in the playoffs and we go
against New York, we go toBaltimore. Are we gonna win a damn
series? With John Singleton playing everyday like Jake Myers had a good month.
But do you trust these guys?I think we did. We had

(02:33:46):
a good run. We had oureight years in there. You know that's
hard to do. I think weneed to sell sell Bragmant, sell Verlander.
If you can tell Presley and startrebuilding this farm, it's time,
guys. The problem will Thanks somuch, Jason. The problem with that
thought is in baseball, it's notnothing's guaranteed. When you trade a known
for an unknown. They're called prospectsfor a reason. They are. They're

(02:34:11):
they're sixty five percent seventy percent misseson prospects every year in baseball. You
are not going to resign Alex Bregman. You should deal him. No,
if you're not creating for yourself therest of your third base, he's leaving
you anyway, you're going to loseor not. When we get to that
sets bad management. No, it'snot. Bad management is creating a huge
hole at third base when you don'thave to have a rotation right now,

(02:34:35):
No, you don't. Your topfive right now? Healthy is fine.
You're getting the job done. Soyou're saying, go trade for who's going
to give you a starting pitcher forAlex Bregman? Right now, no one
so Colorado has nobody that can helpUSh. Asking questions. I'm just yesing
these are not good questions. Goahead, they're not good questions to you.

(02:34:58):
No, No, I read baseballpeople, okay, like you do.
You'll need a real trade for that. Somebody's gonna take a half of
year expensive ass pregnant, which bythe way, they're gonna make you eat
majority of a salary this year.Asking two different questions at the same time.
If you're not gonna resign, I'musing Bregman as an example. If
you're not gonna resign him, movehim, either restock the fall or get

(02:35:22):
you something else that can help you. You're saying that, and that sounds
great, But trading Bregman, you'renot going to restock the farm. They're
not gonna add nobody's gonna give yousix awesome prospects for them. I didn't
say six I can get to.I doubt it. I really doubt it.
Go. I mean, I'm foryou, go lobby. The phone
calls, I doubt you're getting that. Nobody wants it. That's the hyperbodic

(02:35:43):
Chris Gordon. I am staying northfullyemmanual E class sitting in the production chair
