Souls. Great, Okay, let'sdo this. Sewan Salisbury, The usc
Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Ryan Lima, go Lobo. This
is the Sean Salisbury Show, TheTriple. Good Morning Love Fridays, Good
(00:25):
Morning. We got going on here, fellows. Well we got our just
we're just kind of easing our wayinto and you came out with a bunch
of fake energy, fake and no, no, this is me, every
bunch of fake energy. I'll justkidd this man. It's it's good to
be here, but it really is. It's always good to be here.
You guys feel me on that.I feel your dog. Indeed, I'm
picking up what you're putting down.I like it when people pick up what
(00:48):
I'm putting down. You know whatI'm saying. Oh yeah, yeah,
good headlines this morning too. JJReddick is the Lakers said coach earned it.
Put all that you put all thatcoaching time in and got the Lakers
head coaching job. I mean alot of podcasting time in. There's no
question. I mean, isn't thatthe way it goes? I get in
today's NBA? Yeah? Absolutely.Manti Williams is just sitting on a stack
(01:11):
of cash. JJ Reddick you know, gets to host his own podcast,
and he gets to host another podcastwith Lebron James. Then he gets to
uh, you know, be inthe broadcast booth with the NBA Finals crew,
and next thing, you know, boom, he's the Lakers head coach.
Yeah it's a trip, Isn't ita joke? It's a Joke's an
absolute joke, no question about it. But uh, good on him.
(01:34):
You got a lot of pressure thatit's no longer. I mean, it's
it's the Lakers, but it's notthe Uh how can I say it?
I wouldn't say it's the most covetedjob in the league right now because you
got to deal with some stuff. Now, how how is how are he
and his buddy Lebron gonna how's hegonna coach that up? Yeah? Good
luck? Good luck. So basically, Lebron's the head coach and JJ Redick's
(01:56):
the assistant. But JJ's just goingto be calling the shots because he's labeled
the head coaches this pretty much he'llbe the GM as well. Lebron James
will not will has been. It'sjust it's it's ridiculous, man, I
mean, what what what? What? When the Lakers. Look at JJ
(02:16):
Reddick, What could he offer asa head coach to get those guys on
the Lakers roster to the NBA Finals. Honestly, play there knows the game
obviously, But I mean, comeon, man, they're gonna have to
get a lot better in a lotof situations to uh have a chance to
(02:42):
run through the web. They're they'rethey're they're just another guy in the West
right now. They really are.Yeah, that's all they bring. But
I mean, listen, you can'tblame JJ Redick for turning the damn thing.
I mean for taking it. Hell, somebody's gonna offer the Lakers job.
Wouldn't you taken it? Oh?Yeah, I would have. I
mean I wouldn't want to actually,you know what I mean, I would
still take it, but I wouldI don't know. I just don't want
to be anywhere near Lebron James, excuse me, and Anthony Davis just feel
(03:07):
like that's just a no win situation, even though Lebron's arguably one of the
greatest players of all time top tworight, and yet it seems like every
time he gets a new head coach, he's fought that head coach is fired
in a year two. You know, the only one that really made it
through coaching him was Eric Spolstra.Yeah, that's about right. Everybody else
(03:30):
is that's about well, he didn'thave pat Riley wasn't gonna fire a Spolstra.
Yeah. And you know why isbecause it wasn't Lebron's team. It
was Dwayne Wade's right when he wasdown in my hand, pat Riley,
and it was pat Riley's team, and he made sure that's the way it's
going to be treated. So youknow, it's listen, I don't know,
(03:51):
doane. I don't want anybody totell me that Lebron James didn't have
any hand in this. Come on, man, he had everything in this.
Yeah. I don't think that there'sany doubt. Yeah, he had
everything in this. Well we'll talkabout that higher a little bit more later
on in the show. Astros wina series. It was ugly yesterday,
but many they were able to finda way to win. Jordan Alvarez was
(04:13):
back in the lineup. He hita home run drove into Astros win five
to three. This offense, man, is frustrating, to say the least.
They were two for fourteen with runnersin scoring position. And I think
they finally got those two like inthe seventh, if I'm not mistaken,
(04:34):
Yeah, when they put up afour spot and a couple of those runs
were thanks to an error against theWhite Sox. Yeah, they're listen,
man, I think it's pretty obviousthat the uh that the offense is going
to have to win you play goodteams, that you're gonna have to do
(04:55):
more. I think that's pretty obvious. But listen, I'm gonna take a
win anyway I can get it,ugly wins opposed to you know, pretty
losses, to where you're you know, you're swinging the bat and you get
twelve hits and driving four runs, but you end up getting beat seven to
four. Give me a give mean ugly win any day of the week,
(05:15):
and I'll take it, especially withthis team. Them scramble around,
they definitely need just then they gotto scrape out any way they possibly can.
But this is the way it's goingto be all friggin' year. This
is not going to change. Andthe consistency of you know, where everybody
in the lineup's roll, and howmany times have we seen so far in
(05:38):
twenty twenty four where you've gone fouror five games where you say championship team,
even if they've won what the biggestwinning streak six even in the six
wins, were you saying championship team. No, that's what I mean.
It's just now, I'm not eventalking about the injuries. We know that's
a problem. But if you startmaking excuses now for them, where they
(05:59):
make excuses, they're never going toget to where they want to go anyway.
If that's the case. But withthat, you've watched Philly. It
I'm just using teams. You've watchedthe Dodgers of Philly or the Yankees the
time and said, now, thatis a world Series team. And we've
said that about the Astros in thepast. But this year with you know,
listen, it's been a piecemeal thingthe whole the whole season they haven't
(06:23):
had Here's the thing. When yousay they haven't hit, hit on all
cylinders yet they say, okay,it's gonna happen. But is it that?
I think that's the question we've got. Is it we keep waiting for
it to be a regular daily occurrencethat hasn't hit. So I'm I am.
I think it's actually intriguing to watchthem, and yes, when they
(06:45):
it's so maddening to see all therunners left on on base do that against
Baltimore and they've got no shot.Correct. Yeah, they're they're gonna get.
They're gonna get. That's exactly right. Kurb stopped all the way up
and down. So it's, uh, it's gonna be pretty interesting to see
and know, you're throwing out anotheryoung guy. We're going to see how
he goes today. It's listen, they're just gonna have to have people do
(07:09):
some things they're not used to doingif they want to get where they want
to go. But I am okaywith I'm not okay with all the runners
left on base, but I'm okaywith somehow getting to win. But they
just look subpar so often, whichis not something we're used to in this
town with this team. Yeah, they left eleven men on base yesterday,
(07:32):
but hey, it's a series win. It's a step in the right direction
to try to get back to fivehundred. Just like Dana Brown said on
Wednesday, they're thirty five and forty, so they're five away from five hundred
ball. It's it's just it seemslike it's the same thing over and over
again. But yet they're playing areally bad White Sox team and we're able
(07:56):
to find a way to win.Like I said earlier, and have you
seen Martin Maldonado's stats. I haven'teven looked. He was one for three
yesterday that got his average to pointzero nine point zero nine zero, slugging
a buck thirty five. You wanthim back, though, right? No
you don't. I'm good. Whynot? I mean if you were to
(08:18):
come back, be a manager maybe, or not a manager, like a
bench coach or a leadership. Yes, so I'm saying you don't have to
be in the lineup. There youare, show, good morning, There
he is. I just figured thathe's gone mi I A with the bat
for a few years. But doyou want to all right, what's more
(08:39):
important? Ninety one or leadership? You're gonna give him a extra point?
Yeah? I think you know.Listen, the line drive foul gives you
an extra point. In my book, I think there is an aspect to
the Astros missing him as a leader, But as far as that abysmal,
would they be better starting on theroster four days start yes, absolutely,
(09:01):
not four days a week, NoSinai leadership wouldn't matter, So to get
his ass out of the line,I'll go, yeah, let him,
let him catch frombur and I'm okay, But why won't you let him cook?
That's what hurts me. You refuseto let Maldonado cook. His on
base percentage is a buck forty four. I'm not I'm not good at math,
(09:22):
but uh, that's two seventy nine. Ops. I'd bring him back
next year for two years at thirtysix mil, eighteen million. What is
he? Rafael Montero? No,I'm sorry? What is he? Jose
Brad, Joe Brady? Yeah, yeah, what's he doing? Probably at
Chase Bank picking up his direct deposit. It's Friday. He's down in mi
(09:43):
A going, I A yeah,on in the A one A down in
mi A going you yeah, comeon now, son? Yeah, I
you know what I'm kidding about that? I don't which part the fact that
Maldonado's old ninety would would would couldyou imagine if he was still here?
(10:03):
Yeah? You would? Well,oh my gosh, we might we just
turn on the mic, welcome everybodyin and say take it away for four
hours. That's what it would be. But there is that element of leadership
that's a problem though, right now, him and Jose Bray, you both
in this lineup for the first seventygames. Yeah, it it would be.
It would be a little bit brutal, a little bit, and you
(10:26):
know, I'm obviously being facetious. It would be a hard take right now.
And you know what hard pass withJose Bray you gone. They still
have a big hole at first base. John Singleton is hitting two sixteen.
Listen. The only way you're goingto get production from that position with power
is go get flat. You gotto get out of the building. You
(10:46):
got to go out of the building. You just have to. I don't
see. I don't think this isa playoff team if they don't do something
out of the building right now,I understand they've won and they will.
They're what They're nine back now iswhat it is. Do what happened?
Had Seattle? Did Seattle play yesday? I won't paying attention. They did,
didn't they didn't they get beat Let'ssee, are they eight back now?
(11:07):
They got beat by the Guardians, that's right. So they're eight back,
right, So they gained two gamesin the last two and it's no
no shame getting beat by Cleveland, and now I'm sure Seattle saying we got
to learn that they are got wegot to win this eight games back,
they're eight back. Can they wina World Series with the current roster?
You say no, I don't thinkDaden Brown believes they can't eat it,
but he thinks they can get tothe playoffs. But they've closed the gap
(11:28):
in two games in two days, and you see how fast it can change.
But I I just and just asquickly as you can do that,
you don't go in and take yourbusiness against Baltimore. You give that thing
right back. So I don't knowthey're gonna have. They got a lot
of convincing to do, to proofto not only us, but to them
they're I mean, do you thinkthey believe they're World Series team? I
guess inside they do. But I'mtalking about where nobody talks about by themselves.
(11:50):
When they're sitting at home. Doyou think they look around each other
and say we got it this year? No? You think they question what's
going on and that when they're bythemselves, sitting with their wife, they're
sitting at their office desk, andwhen they went they're talking about and they're
talking about what's going on. Ithink there's frustration, yeah, and I
think there's some other things going ontoo. But yep, so I listen.
(12:11):
I hope I'm wrong. Maybe it'sthe reverse psychology that we're starting to
use because we've ridden the This issuch a great talented roster, but not
a great team. Maybe the reversepsychology will work. But in two days
they were at eight and they wontoo, but it was against and you
saw what the Oriols did the Yankeesyesterday in New York. Was seventeen to
five. Yeah, seventeen to two. What was it? Only seventeen runs
(12:33):
on them? Oh my gosh. And so you're running into a pretty good
team. So this this will bea good test this weekend. It was
seventeen five. The Orioles pounded outnineteen hits. Yep, all buddy,
wow, seventeen to five. Allright, let's let's go to break and
we'll discuss the Houston Astros. Theycalled somebody up to start tonight against the
(12:58):
Orioles. Who is it that's nextto sports flock seven? Ninety barrels his
way to the basket. I'm thewindow it, hey is Jay Shawn Tate?
Back to the Sean Salisbury show onSports Talk seven ninety Black Ship Station
of your Rockets. He's had nocoaching experience at all. Do you think
(13:22):
he was pining for it? Ithink they knew what they were doing the
entire time they started that damn podcast. Yeah, imagine this, you get
the lake with what I would say, aside from the Celtics, the Lakers
Celtics is most iconic job in thebusiness, right, Nick, you throw
in there at some point with Lakersand Celtics. Yeah, he's going by
(13:46):
championships and what they're all about.I remember when I was getting recruited out
of high school by Notre Dame. They made the switch from the coach from
one coach to the next. Andthe next coach that took over at historic,
uh historic Notre Dame most iconic programmin college football history was Jerry Faust.
(14:16):
You know what it said? Yeah, you know what it's and love
Jerry energy, but you know whatJerry Foules head coaching experience in college football
was before you got the Notre Damejob. What was it? None?
Molar High School in Cincinnati, whichMolar in Cincinnati would be what you say,
give me when you think a highschool football across the country. Who
is it right now? Spring HighSchool, Springs, Frank Price, Fryank.
(14:39):
But so you're thinking, okay,I would say Thomas Aquanas. You're
thinking of, what's the place I'vetrained quarterbacks at? The one that they
bring people in now IMG, Iamg Academy. Maybe you're thinking of you're
thinking of, oh, well,I mean as far as like we'll just
do day style high school California. For Texas, it's always south Lake,
(15:00):
Southlake, Carol Allen's always there righthere in Houston, Austin, Westlake,
now, Travis, that's what you'rethinking about. What's the big bat at
Duncanville right You're thinking the five orsix seven eight Division one seniors on their
team, dominant program. Yeah,Cincinnati Moler was those schools before. Can
(15:20):
you imagine going from it? AndI think Cincinnati Mouler was a Catholic school.
Can you imagine now getting the NotreDame job from Cincinnati, from going
from high school to the Cincinnati fromMolar High School to Notre Dame. And
it happened my junior year ended goinginto my senior year and Notre Dame was
(15:46):
it. Dan Divine was it coachDivine or coach Parsigian. First, I'm
trying to think who they were.Started to recruiting, and it went I
think it was Dan Divine. Youcould probably check, but and I can.
I'll never forget Jerry Foles comes oncampus. I should That's how I
talked because he had that horse voiceoff the time, kind of like,
uh, you know the guy who'sconstantly so much energy. He walks out
(16:07):
of my campus. Quick story. The only reason I tell you this year
get a I and and But yousee the comparisons of I know, Cincinnati
Momuller, but going from a highschool program which was a is powerful a
program, Cincinnati Mohler's Barry Larkin, great baseball shortstop, Ken Griffey Jr.
That's that. That's that's who wentto Cincinnati mole from there. Well,
(16:29):
it's like right now, Scotty Scheffler, Matthew Stafford will get to Stafford's wife.
Did you see that? Yeah?Damn it? Well I was gonna
I was gonna save it for whatI give credit because she's overcoming Stafford.
What an embarrassment to your husband? So embarrassing? Why that's gonna be our
stake? Yeah, get to thatMatt Stafford's wife, right Stafford Scheffler,
Uh Clayton Kershaw High School right therein Dallas there and Highland Park Park there
(16:55):
you go, And so that that'sa huge jump, right. Come on,
dude, this is freaking Notre Dame. It's the Lakers. Now.
There's been a little bit more clownshow ish going around the Lakers lately with
Lebron in and out coaching, youknow, hiring and firing coaches. But
Jerry Fast comes to my campus andhe's walking around shaking anybody coming out of
(17:15):
the transition from the other the previouscoach to Jerry Faust gets me out of
class, going and then we're gettingready to go play back. It was
basketball season, getting ready to gopractice basketball. So I'm in the locker
room getting getting changed for basketball practicerut after school. He's shaking every guy
saying, oh shot, how youdoing going to coach boy or talking to
my coaches. So we go tothe gym before everybody else gets in there.
(17:38):
He goes, come on, let'sgo shoot. He goes, I'll
make you a deal if I makea shot before you do. You come
to Notre Dame. True story Now, I promise you as I'm saiding,
he's done all this and I'm tellingyou, dude, he's bouncing off like
a pinball to talking to everybody allover again. And you know the word's
fine. You know it's Orange GlenHeights, Notre Dame's head coaches on campus.
When that happens, like when us, I mean, it's like,
(18:00):
oh my gosh, right the Imean mean streets asco dude. Yeah,
and they'd roll him through these coaches. And so he's on campus. So
we go to the gym before practicestarts, just him and I and a
witness. I thought one of myassistant coaches are buddy, I can't remember
who else was in there. Sowe go to half court, half court
right where the half court in thein the sideline come together right. I
(18:22):
shoot first, he said, doI showing you shoot first? I miss?
He shoots second, missus. Weboth miss our second shot. I
shoot third, bouncing out the backof the rim. He shoots third,
buries it. Oh no, literallytold you, shakes my hand, hugs
me, walks out, leaves thegym, still see it not today,
(18:45):
goes in and talks to my coach. I didn't seem the rest of practice.
He left, and I guess hewas supposed to say. I said,
okay, coach, fair enough.I'm thinking, come on, man,
this dude's not walking off moll OrHigh School not to day. Hit
a jump shot during my basketball andhe buried it, nothing but the debt
of the third half court shot fromthe from the from the sideline. Yeah,
(19:07):
and he literally he said, hewalked out. I'm thinking, it's
Notre Dame, it's Catholic. DidI make a promise to the guy that
can end up going to us?He was his energy, but and I
loved him. His energy was throughthe roof. But he was in over
his head as the Notre Dame hadfootball coach. He got fighty. I
think he got fired a handful ofyears later. But then he went to
(19:27):
I think he was the head coachat Akron after that. At least he
had some kind of coaching experience, right, That's the point. JJ Reddick
has none. J J hasn't evencoached his old high school basketball team.
He may have coached some of hiskids team or one of his buddies.
That that's the thing. So thisis you're talking about an iconic program with
history field program. But times havechanged, dude. In basketball, especially
(19:48):
if you can go on to bea broadcaster and tell them something on TV,
you get the job. Listen, remember when our guy Jeff Saturday got
the job last year. Everybody saidI can't do that. Yeah, and
Saturday was one of the more brilliantcenters in football. Very I mean,
think about this. You got abright guy like Saturday who can direct traffic
and call all this, and yougot Peyton Manny behind. You got two
(20:10):
guys. If you wanted to knowthe mental side, those two got it
handled right at least. And evenwhen with that we said, come on,
man coach in high school, he'snot ready for this. And Jay
and and JJ Reddick think about itnow, football, we we we lament
them. What what are you talkingabout? As much as as good as
Jeff Saturday he played all those years, No, you're not ready for this.
(20:33):
I wish him well, but no, think about it. In basketball,
if you go on and you're abroadcaster, we're throwing you at the
job and nobody argues over it.I know, think him a four year
deal. This isn't you didn't justhe didn't just get hired. Yeah,
he didn't just get hired. Andno offense to n I. There's some
good basketball and n I and Ai, you didn't get hired there. South
(20:56):
Dakota State at FCS didn't hire him. No, the Lakers d three nobody
Vikers, Yeah, Los Angeles. And it comes simply from sitting on and
being able to and I know he'sa player, but playing and coaching are
different. Hell, that's the casethat you're not can go be coaches right
in the in pro sports head coachesI'm talking about. So he went from
(21:18):
that gig to talking on and listen, I know a lot of guys go
good x's and o's and give strongopinion, to walking off the ESPN studio
set and calling games with Doris Burketo being the head coach of the Lakers.
Now you tell me, is JeffVan Gundy more prepared for that or
him? Yeah? Jeffan And nowhe may go in and kick ass.
I don't know. Sometimes you gotto see. I don't know. But
(21:41):
if you're telling me early on,that's not an overwhelming job, he better
hire an experienced staff, because nomatter who you are, you better get
an experienced staff, especially if you'rea guy who's never been around a huddle,
calling, drawing up stuff on yourlittle whiteboard before you go in,
and it's the end of a gameand you got to find a Now he's
got Lebron, so you say, hey, do something else and get Lebron
(22:03):
on the ball. Let him gofinish. But it's going to be a
difficult task for him. Rob Polinka, Yes, Polenka said that something along
the lines of they liked his x'es, not his ex'es and o's his high
basketball IQ on TV and right knowingthe game. Obviously a long career,
and the plan is to hire avery extremely experienced staff around him so that
(22:29):
the learning curve is less. Saythey want him, they're not asking him
to be in the position and growpeople around it, grow the team.
They're putting him in a position hopinghe'll grow into the position, not through
the position into it. I mean, you look at this, Why are
they to experienced staff because they don'ttrust that he can handle it by himself.
And I understand that Hurley didn't wantthis job. So you go and
(22:52):
hire JJ Reddick and he may endup being great, I don't know,
but you hired a Laker job andyou're asking him to learn his way into
it and hire an experience staff aroundhim. It's listen, and he will
learn, and he'll make mistakes anddo it. But that's a tall task.
It's a tall task. Its listen. If I go on TV like
(23:15):
I've done and draw up on aon a telestrape, huh, and I've
talked to you off the air anddrawing stuff told you me high football like,
I don't mean that. I brokeit down plays for me, like
on the most basic levels, onwhat understand I don't mean it agat high
football, like, yeah, amI prepared to be the head coach of
the LA Raiders? Respectfully? No? Not with all that running team?
Now? Can I lead and standup before the room is court? Right?
(23:37):
But all the stuff that comes withit now four years from now,
if I was an assistant and saymaybe, yeah, my football like my
football like you and I can standin a room with all clinic coaches,
you could go be an offensive coordinator. I mean, there's no question.
But as far as everything that comeswith being an I stand in front of
a room and command a room asa head coach, sure, but I'm
talking about everything else. Ready forthat's a lot of they came to me.
(24:00):
I'd say, you know what, thank you, I'll take it.
But I'd sit there and stay sentenced. Damn, this is I'm sitting in
this chair now When I think aboutall the people that have gone through the
trick, You've been through it sayinghe's probably right now. Can I sit
in a room with a head coachand Belichick and talk x's and o's and
talk football like you? Sure? But there's fifty elements that go along with
it, also deciding what coffee you'regoing to serve into the team, right
(24:23):
that that's my point. There's anelement that JJ Reddick knows more than some
head coaches, there's no doubt.Plus he played it. That helps.
But yeah, but can he bea leader that's that's Matt Locker, but
also a leader of when you're losing. Can you be a leader when you're
winning? Can you handle the personalities? Can you handle the egos? Can
you draw up the x's and o'sunder pressure when it's the final shot and
there's a buck twenty five to go? Can you do all that? Listen?
(24:45):
We could say I can go onTV and do it. Guess what
take cut Sean Redo that tellustrator, this is live stuff now, or when
you do a live TV you canwait a second. Now, let's bring
that back cover two. But ingame boom boom, boom, boom boom,
Saturday's brilliant mind was in over hishead. Oh yeah, and at
times, JJ Reddick's going to behighly overrated. I mean highly in over
(25:07):
his head and overwhelmed. It's aweird world we're living in. No man,
go on TV and you can bethe head coach. JJ Reddicks is
the new head coach of the LosAngeles Slackers. All right, let's get
back to these Houston Astros. There'sa guy getting called up to start tonight
skipping triple A. Who is it? That's next? On Sports Talk seven
ninety, the Sewn Salisbury Show continued, Christian Navier, Tommy John, jose
(25:30):
Er, Katy Tommy John, JustinVerlander on the il with some neck discomfort.
Lance mccullor is not back yet.Luis Garcia not back yet, by
the way, Luis Garcia just acouple of days ago through another live VP
session up to twenty five pitches,So that's some good news. A guy
that we mentioned yesterday, Sean Wetalked about him a little bit when we
(25:52):
were discussing the four draft picks fromDana Brown's twenty twenty three class already being
promoted to Double A. Well,Jake bloss was one of those. Right
here in a pitcher. He's beingcalled up to start tonight at Minute May
Park. He was in High A, which is in Asheville for the Astros.
(26:15):
Went from there to Double A toCorbus Christi. In those two leagues,
sixty two innings pitched, one pointseventy four sixty k's twenty one walks,
a whip of point eight two.So the kid is gonna be skipping
Triple A altogether. He was draftedless than a year ago, and welcome
to the show tonight. Yeah, hey, and you know what, if
(26:36):
you're gonna throw him out there, let's go. You saw what, you
know, a rookie for the WhiteSox did against the Astros to get his
first win and be grateful. Iwould think that you're probably you don't have
to go to Camden Yards to doit. But that Double A squad you
faced, it's just reality is gonnabe a tad bit different than the lineup
(26:57):
they're gonna roll in a minute mayPark. So you know what, at
home teams won two in a row. There, you know they you you
know, and they know you. They need pitching. And what an opportunity
to just take that when if you'redriving here, you run right by on
fifty nine, sixty nine, rightby you know the ballpark. Now it's
(27:18):
a different direction I get, butright by the ballpark is I'm not going
to stop in sugar Lin. Ithink I'm gonna roll right up here to
Mini made so good on him.I'm anxious to see his start against And
you're not drawing, well, you'renot drawing the White Sox. No,
you're not there. You go likeone of the best teams in baseball right
now. Absolutely, and after theseries win, you know what you gotta
(27:40):
do, Sean, after the serieswin, you probably white So you know
what I would do? Call upWhitmyer and book the parade. Damn right.
Call John Whitmyer, the mayor ofHouston. Tell him to block off
Louisiana Street. The parade is backon. What's up? What a yeah?
(28:00):
The parade's back on. It's backon two days in a row,
the praise. It stayed on actuallyfor two days in a row planning the
route. Dude, let's win onemore. That's called a winning street when
you do the parade. So thiswould be World Series three, right,
correct? Yeah? Win? Correct? Do you do you give the same
route or do you change the routeevery parade? They changed it last time
they did, Yeah, they did. They just want with a stretch.
(28:21):
I've never been to you know, when a fortunate Lakers won championships when I
was in LA other than a paradethat I was in when we want a
chip, I've never I've never goneto a championship parade, neither of I.
I didn't go in twenty seventeen, didn't go in twenty twenty two.
Yeah. I love the Astros inHouston, yeah, and all across the
(28:45):
Lone Star state. Yeah, butyou couldn't pay me to go to the
parade there. I don't want togo hang out with five million people.
Yeah, I just it's not mystyle. But I like the celebration.
I just don't want to go toooverwhelming for me. That's what the TV's
for. Yeah, yeah, Idid, but I think it's awesome,
you know, it's it's awesome,But I personally, I go get that
(29:06):
chip, but I'll I'll from adistance, I'll sit back and watch the
thumb it up. Yeah. Sothey changed the route? Do you change
it every time? I would?Would? Yeah? Can they roll it
through maybe the woodlands? Yeah?Yeah? Or down? Yeah? Or
yeah? There you go right overthere, come on down through fourteen sixty
three. Let's go to Humble,Let's go to triple least side of the
crib. Why don't we go upthere? Right? Rice Village needs one?
(29:30):
Yeah, the village through river OaksMemorial could use one right there around
Kim Kid High School a little bitover there. Yeah, why not a
coin over there? Yeah? Whynot? Yeah? I want we go
to uptown. Let's go down. But don't we go down to like Parentland?
Now? Yeah? Why not?Too far? Too far? How
about how about just up and downthe strand? Okay, yeah town,
(29:52):
that'll be the nicest thing to gothrough Gallason in a long time. Oh
sorry, that was a straight Reallya lot of good people down there in
g Why are you slinging him inour own people? Just stay out of
the water. You said that'd bethe what nicest thing to go through Gauston
in a while? What happened toyou? I actually love Galison. Yeah,
(30:14):
good restaurants, good hotels, goodpeeps, and you just ga,
I have to go into g Townand you're like, you strayed g Town?
Who are you Barkley? No?Uhuh, because I mean it kind
of yeah, because I mean there'swith your strays I'm talking about. There's
no parade going on in San Antonio. You know, well Greg Papovich couldn't
(30:36):
right now, he couldn't coach histeam out of a wet paper bag.
And you can't say it too loudbecause if you say, oh, there
ain't no championships going through that.We got one franchise got more than three
chance chips? How many chips theygot? Five? Who Santonio? Yeah,
probably something like that. Now,if you can including the w n
B A and all the other butif you're cuting the if you're just including
the the three major sports, Imean chips got here five in Santonio.
(31:02):
I got four here right of themajors. No football chip. You got
two to Astros, to to Rocketsand then four comments. Right. That's
why I said, if you includethe w n B A, but they
don't have a w NBA team,So San anton could come back in your
kitchen, say, whoa, whoa, whoa. San Antonio knows a lot
about kitchens. Yeah, and chips. A lot of chips in the kitchen,
A lot of chips chip. Theydon't actually probably I think they're fat
(31:26):
is with the pH in San Antonio. No, you don't, you don't,
I do. I think it wasa complete pH And I think down
in g Town and Galveston, let'srun the prey down the strand. Don't
they deserve it. They're big fansdown there, They're huge Rockets fans down
through the strand. Yeah, likeyesterday, Yeah, yeah, you went
Rockets fans yesterday. I did,I say Rockets Astros fans. Maybe the
(31:47):
rock right is going to get itdone to Texans fans to yesterday we used
the word would we use the word? We said the plastic four? No,
when we were talking about great, great words. So I threw strand
on your ass today it what wasyesterday's It was something to do with basic
white guys names? And I saidthe one word? I said, what
(32:07):
is the word? Was it thator the day before? And you said,
man, good word to describe?Oh yeah, I can't remember.
It wasn't plethora? Yeah, butit's it is. Ye. People asked
me about that basic white guy segmentyesterday was one of my favorites. One
I couldn't I couldn't breathe white guynames. Basically. I got so many
(32:29):
comments on that, yes, ohmy gosh, and and every comment they
called us nut jobs. Essentially,do you like it was either you guys
were jack guys are stupid? Yeah, well let me like an endearing way.
Yeah, let me just tell youthis basic white guy named Tanner,
right or Hunter? But okay,so we laugh and say that's a fact.
(32:50):
But it is a fact too.So ours calling us whack jobs or
yeah, nut jobs, crazy asses, dumba asses, jackass. That's as
true as as Hunter being a whitein a total white guy's name. That's
exactly right. Yep, no questionabout it, Ki, I believe it.
Good good talk, Yeah, noquestion about it. All right.

Tavera is not to be confused withthe tournament they're having on the PGA Tour
this year, the Travelers in Cromwell, Connecticut. So is that Taveres out
of to Ars Tavares. Yeah, that's what I thought American bands Tes Tavares,
Yeah right, that's probably from ESCOrelease released in nineteen seventy six,
(35:10):
What a What a Banger Again?Best decade in music ever? No argument
for me. A lot of differentreasons. Soul and you get sixties and
seventies from you know, I mean, yes, here you're talking about rock
and roll, hell, even instrumentalwhatever, whatever genre or you like to
(35:30):
call it genre, right, youcall a genre set of genre. Genre.
Yeah, it's there was Motown seventiesMotown. Come on man rocking that
that right there? He's playing thehits today. Play the cuts, dog,
you gotta play him. Uh,Victor Caratini, have that it.
(35:54):
Let's go. He is dealing witha sore left quad. I ll apossible
ability, gonna get some imaging done. It's gonna be okay because it's sore.
What's the other word we don't wantto hear, uh discomfort? Yeah,
sore yees. So he's probably gonnago ahead to the I L not
good. They are so thin onposition players. It's it's not even funny.
(36:16):
And don't you usually say thin towin. Yes, this ain't it.
No, it's not. It's notso. You know when you look
up and down this roster, likeyesterday in the lineup you had Cooper Hummel,
he was over two, Trey Cabbage, John Singleton, I mean your
(36:39):
futures humble Cabbage, low perfedo god, Joey loperfdo is uh my bad?
Joey loperfdo is eligible to come off? Uh? You know, come up
from triple A hovel too. Wegot a bright future with some of our
(37:01):
young players. I think it's alittle young to get you to where you
want to go this year maybe alittle premature, but your bench is a
little uh short. You know whothey could recall? Bring back? I
mean after DFA you might need abat. You might need a bat.
(37:22):
We're so banged up, you mightsay, bringing back What if they did?
What is uh a spot of calebringing Josie, Josie bring sorry Hosey.
Yeah, let's get Hosey back. What do you think what would you
do? Hey, a lesser salary. We've got rid now we can bring
and bring him back a mill Josie, I mean Hosey. I unfortunately think
(37:46):
his career is done. I thinkhe will he will retire, I really
do. No one's going to pickhim up. He's had a good run,
Sugar, he did, no questionabout it. I'm just not ye.
Yeah, this year happens. Man, Sometimes you got to move on.
Yeah, us says our Salas areanother guy on the bench for the
(38:07):
astros Cooper Hummel. They cabbage gotsome good young players to work with down
the road here that that's who theygo to on the bench to try to
get back to five hundred yeah,Kyle Tucker's still out. You're asking a
lot of some young players. Butyou know what, sometimes sometimes the future
becomes the present in a hurry. Is Kyle Tucker gonna play before the All
(38:28):
Star break? You're asking the wrongguy. I'm saying, no, that
might be a take. We're talkingtwenty more games. I don't think.
I bet he doesn't play. Butthere's no damage to the bone. He
hasn't done any baseball. Come on, man, he hadn't run. Come
on, and he's still walking aroundwith the limb. Come on. Just
that might be a take. Thatcould be I'm just saying that could be
(38:49):
a little bit too hot for me. There's no friggin way there's no damage
to the bone, and you're gonnawant to rush We don't want to rush
him back. So you missed fortydays from a bone bruise. Okay,
so let's let's let's look at it. What's they got there's having no bone
damage. Let's say twenty games.I don't know the exact number. I
think it's like twenty two, twentygames left, twenty He still has to
(39:10):
go. He's still gonna have todo a rehab start. They talked about
it yesterday that that's not out ofthe question to send him down to Triple
A or Double A and get somerehab starts. So that takes away three
games, So that's seventeen plus. He's not back yet. He's not gonna
be around for the Orioles series. So there's six more. Or that there's
three more, so that's six.So that's fourteen games. I don't know,
(39:34):
man, that kind of cuts.Come on, think about it now,
that's gonna end up being So ithappened on June third, Uh huh
today, So it's June third totoday's twenty first. That's eighteen. So
you're saying twenty more games. Solet's say there was fifteen games or twelve
games he missed. You're saying he'sgonna miss thirty games from a bone bruise.
It's no, there's no damage tothe bone. He has not done
(39:58):
anything about being add to the bone. He had no no, no,
think about it. Think about it. What I just said, though,
nobody's threshold of pain holds him outthirty days with no with no. He
hasn't done any on the field activitiesyet and he's not around. You're still
telling me there's no bone damage tricked. It's just a bruise. We're told
it's a forty game bruise contusion.Okay, could be a hot take.
(40:23):
But if that take holds up,I'm I'm throwing both my arms up in
the end and say, I don'tknow, I'm done. I am done.
You given in your ASTROS card? No, I never given my Astros
card. But man, that wouldthat would that would be a bummer.
No way, that's too that takesaway too hot. Okay, I don't
(40:44):
really do hot takes, but Ican't do it. Okay, I don't
know. Man, Let's get tothe seven o'clock hour. We'll keep on
talking about these astros. Next,it's four Stock seven eighty Houston, Houston,
an iHeart radio station, the exclusivebody your home of NBC's coverage of
the twenty twenty four Paris Olympics. This is Sports Talk seven ninety the Rockets,
(41:09):
your home for your home teams, driven by the classic elite few at
GMC Studios, for the elite carbuying experience. Salisbury Salsbury, Houston.
Okay, let's do this. SewnSalisbury to usc true longtime friend Shawn Salisbury,
(41:35):
Bryan Lima, Go Lobos. Thisis the Sean Salisbury Show. Astros
were a tough series ahead of themtaking on the Orioles. And if you
haven't seen what the Oriols have donehere lately, let me let me take
you through. The Orioles are oneof the best teams in baseball. They
(41:55):
just took the series from the NewYork Yankees. They've also so prior to
that, have taken the series fromthe Philadelphia Phillies. Before that, they
took the series from the Atlanta Braves. Before that, they four games swept
the Tampa Bay Rays. They're playingreally good baseball. They are forty nine
(42:17):
and twenty five and they put upseventeen runs yesterday against the New York Yankees.
They are an impressive group of youngplayers. Man, they are an
impressive group of young players. SoI'm anxious to see how they had,
(42:37):
how first time starter handles this, but also how they push forward with I
mean, is he just is hehere to stay? If he goes out
and throws a gym the night againstthe Oils, then what Jake bloss Yeah
yeah, then what keep him up? I don't know. I guess we
depend on how long Verlander's out right, yeah, and who knows how long
(42:59):
that's to be right still on thetimetable. It's you're relying This is one
of those outliers that you're relying ona lot of guys who haven't given you
a lot of baseball at the majorleague level to give you a lot of
baseball to major league level and productivebaseball. The Orioles Oriols are raking and
they're really good. Against the Phillies. They scored seventeen runs in three games.
(43:22):
Against the Yankees, they scored twentysix runs in three games. They're
not playing now if you're I would, you're gonna have to dude that they're
maybe pitch out of the strike zonea little bit tonight. Right, You're
gonna have to see Corbyn Burns. He's pretty good. What's his record right
(43:43):
now? So the guy pitching tonightis Grayson Rodriguez. Yeah, he's eight
and two with a three point twoERA. Yeah, really good. He's
actually from Houston. Let's see CorbynBurns. Let's see Burnsy. Here's my
cy young pick this year. Well, he's pitched pretty well. He could
be on a track to that. He's eight and two with a two point
one four e r A eighty ninecase who that's Burns. Yeah, yeah,
(44:09):
and then you look at Game threeon Sunday, Albert Suarez. He's
three and one on the season witha two point oh five e r A.
And they will they will make youwork when they're at the plate.
They know how to rake, theywill attack the baseball man. Gonna be
(44:32):
a This is a fun series,It really is. Yeah, it's fun
series. Yeah, you know,it's like, uh, it's like Princess
Day at the ballpark on Sunday,is it. Yeah, they're giving away
like princess crowns or some I thinkit's a girls day out or oh that'll
be a blast for girls in theirpops or girls in their mom's families.
Yeah, it'll probably be packed too. Watching a great base I mean,
(44:55):
should be a good series. You'rewatching ten start on Sunday. You know,
to that were at the beginning ofthe year picked to be World Series
type teams, and Baltimore's lived upto it a little more this year than
the Astros have. But the Astroshave great challenges in front of him.
So it's a hell of a start. And I would imagine bloss is going
to see a lot of fans inthe ballpark tonight, not just because it's
(45:15):
Friday and it's the summer and peoplewant to go, but to see this
young fellow waltz right through Sugarland withoutstopping the pass and go collect is two
hundred bucks and come up and geta start against right now? What is
is? I mean, there's beena hot as hot a team as there
is going. Yeah, hey, here you go, kid, welcome to
the show, face the Orioles. It gets easier from here, kid,
(45:37):
after the first one, let's go, why not show I like it?
Yeah, I mean Adley Richman's justsitting a cool two ninety three. Gunner
Henderson's hitting about two seventy nine withan ops of almost one thousand. They're
pretty good. But hey, hisnerves will be on edge a little.
(46:00):
I'm manxious to see his poise andsee how does this. It's gonna be
good. It's gonna be good forthe I'm excited to see the optics.
Let's see that. Gunnar Henderson's gottwenty two bombs. I know it's sick.
What is going on? Adley Rutchman'sgot eighty five hits? Well,
they're pretty good. Okay, they'repretty freaking good. So if you're if
you hey, you want to challenge, you got it. Adley Rutchman fifty
(46:22):
three, RBIs Gunnar Henderson fifty,Anthony Santander forty eight. It's because these
guys are stupid. Santana's got nineteenbombs, Rutchmand's got fourteen, got they
got two others with eleven. They'rea fun watch man. Who's that remind
you of when you're talking about youngplayers that are raking astros, when those
young fellas came up, I'm talkingabout during this seven year runner. So
(46:44):
yeah, so and Baltimore's built itfairly similar and their pitching staff's not exactly
chopped Liver. I heard if theyif you build it, it will they
will come pass. Really it's reallythey said, feel impress really impressive by
you know what they said Field Drink. Oh you're gonnaet Field dream for I
thought it was one of yours. No, no, no, no,
that's fill of dreams. Yeah yeah, yeah Cornfield, what a great movie.
(47:04):
Yeah, banger, that's okay, what yeah? Speaking of movies.
Sutherland, mister Sutherland, Donald DonaldSutherland, not to be confused with Keefer
Sutherland. Yes, but you couldconfuse them because they're family rip man.
Man, what a legend. Uhm, what a frigging legend. Donnie
(47:27):
Is think about his long list ofcredits. Died at eighty eight. Yeah,
it's been a good run, goodlife lived. Man. He was
in The Hunger Games. He wasin one of my favorite movies, Backdraft.
Yeah. I think a lot ofpeople will know him for different movies.
Keep going, like, what wasthe Donald Sutherland movie that hits you?
He was in mash Keep going,Let's see. Oh I don't have
(47:51):
it, I'm just IMDb, TheItalian Job. Yeah, he was ordinary,
Mark Wahlberg's guy. Yep, Let'ssee an American Haunting Pride and Prejudice,
I mean Space Cowboys. He wasin The Mechanic Love the Mechanics,
really good movie. Yeah, let'ssee back Like I said, Backdraft?
(48:15):
Are you sleeping on Backdraft? Man? Good? Let's see fools gold Virus
dude. He did. His careerwas Six Degrees of Separation, Jock the
Hero Dog. Probably probably not hisbest work. Probably not. He was
(48:37):
in The Hunger Games, Mocking jpart one. I mean, he was
in Casanova. Good career from uhyou go way back for Donald in some
early classics too. He was ina movie called The World ten times Over.
His role was the tall man inthe nightclub. Been a good run
by Donald Sutherlan. I'm sorry,Peter Donald Sutherlands. So well, let's
(49:00):
get to the steak out. Becausethis steak out, oh man, Matt
Stafford's wife. What are we doing? It's I can't believe she did that
to him. Think about what histeam and think about what they're going to
hold over his head now embarrassing.Protect your husband and protect your wife like
that. Don't do that if youwant to talk about it and laugh at
home, or just don't or don'tjust don't talk about it. That's my
(49:22):
point. It was you know whenoh girl, oh girl, she couldn't
wait to get that out out.You know what? He should come back
and say, yeah, but youdon't have any idea. Remember when I
banged your best friend. I didnot tell you that. Yeah, Oh
I didn't tell you. I didn'ttell you. And it really wasn't to
get you. You were just youwere the other one. And quite frankly,
maybe you know what I settled foryou. Yeah, say something like
(49:44):
that, and here's a guy whowhen she was going through her hell stood
by her and didn't I mean justeverything. I'm not saying she doesn't stand
by him, but why does everythinghave to be told? There are certain
things that are just better left unsaid. And if you're if you're the backup
right now, you're thinking, andhow about saying, well, Matthew was
a shy, nice guy, butthe bad boy as you want to be
known as the meek and submissive dudethat got the girl because you were.
(50:07):
She just decided to to go tentoes up and ten toes down with the
guy sitting in the quarterback room withyou come on, and now he's sitting
at home going, oh hell yeah. Now watch, she's gonna get what
one hundred thousand extra followers and she'sgonna get clicks. Just stupid. Don't
do it. Just don't do it. What purpose did it serve other than
(50:27):
for hers, for her own Idon't know, you know what's gonna happen.
She's she's about what two weeks awayfrom starting her own podcast or being
on one of those Jake Cutler andhis Wife shows. Just dumb. It
makes no sense to me. None. And if you're Matthew Stafford hold out

podcast and she talked about her relationshipin college with Matt Stafford and this is
how it sounded. Wait, sowas he trying to casually date? And
you were all yeah, girl.Anyways, long story short, it wasn't
(53:50):
that cute of a relationship. Atfirst. I hated him. I loved
him. I dated the backup topiss him off, which yes, he
was like, that'll do it.He was the bad boy too, like
Matthew's so sweet and southern gentlemen andall stuff, and the backup was the
complete opposite. Yeah yeah, ooh, and it upset him. So they
lived in the same dorm because athleteslived in the same dorm and he would
see my car there and so atone point he like waited and fought and

But you know what they'll say onceWhat do they say one once?
A somebody has that attitude, alwayshas that attitude. I mean, we'll
hear that. So is if it'sgood for the goose, it's good for
the gander. Right. So I'mnot saying listen, I'm not sitting here
preaching or being you know, oneof those self righteous guys. It hasn't
made mistakes in our life. I'mtalking about make a mistake. Can you
do it in private? He's yourhusband, he gonna wake up to you
(56:13):
now. Great, so tonight he'sthinking, dude's a constant reminder that the
bad boy backup. It has stillgot that story hanging over my head.
Now he's got to be reminded ofthe backup was banging his now wife.
Yes, while they were in college, living in the same dorm, playing
on the same team, and andshe made a joke of home, my
car was there and it was hot, and then I came out there and
(56:36):
yet it works. It was working. You know what I do. There's
a gar to me. I knowthis sounds bad that I would love Stafford
to come on here so I couldask me, hey, were you banging
any of her sorority sisters or whateverand him to say, well, she
doesn't know about this one. Butman, there was this brunette that was
completely opposite or her blonde hair. They tell you what worked out together.
(56:58):
Yeah, they were at the gymtogether. What they didn't know is that
onion she had both Oh yeah, yeah, she called me daddy, which
my girl never called me that.Yeah. And and the reason she does
now is because she followed me onsocial media. She has no idea she
does now though, oh right now? And then and then the wife has
to come and see you told me? Oh and you know what? Everybody,
(57:20):
Oh Stafford, what a dog?Why did he say that on social
media? Do they would crush him? Yes, And she's getting crushed and
she should. Why even if youhave that hanging over his head and he
knows it because he saw your caroutside the dorm, why do you have
to let the world know he's gonnawalk in the locker room and I'm telling
you. The fellows are gonna theyare gonna look, they're gonna side on
him at times. Man, thewife's gonna throw you under the bus like
(57:44):
that. Come on that. Thatwas just that that people say stuff on
podcasts that did not need to besaid. Well, tell me right now,
what the purpose of that is?Moment, that's ther only little moment
it almost was. She said thatshe wants her own pod cat right,
but she doesn't need that. Herhusband is Matt freaking Stafford. But she
doesn't need that if her husband wasvery half she doesn't need a viral moment.
(58:07):
Yeah, but that's not a viralmoment, you, I mean,
so it's really cool. Now peopleare going to look at her like,
well, anybody's got a shot withthat. I mean, not that they
will. Maybe she's a loyal wife. I guess he was in He was
at Georgia in two thousand and six, two thousand and seven, and two
thousand and eight, sixteen years ago, right, seventeen years ago. She
maybe a one hundred percent loyal wife. I hope she is. I'm and
(58:30):
I know people say, well, things happen in college. It's not that
it happened, it's a why doyou got to let the world know what
happened to your husband. Thank youto you and your host. That's my
point. Yes, everybody, weall do stupid stuff in college, and
you know, if you've cheated onyour girlfriend in college or whatever, it's
not a self righteous thing. Iunderstand those things happening. It's years ago.
It's the fact that she had totell people and reminded to embarrass her
(58:51):
husband as if he and the youknow, the people on Georgia's campus probably
knew it and fellas in the Georgialocker room. But you've never heard a
former teammate tell anybody at but theold wife that you got to go to
bed with. In your kids rightnow, we're gonna say, oh,
is this the guy you what happenswhen they're teenagers? Oh? Man,
dad, I mean really seeing now? Now you have comments like on this
(59:13):
video, and like one comment isI'm just gonna leave this here, and
it's a Los Angeles Rams depth chart. Guess who the backup is, Jimmy
Garoppolo. They're making jokes now,Oh the Garoppolo is gonna go yeah,
And then another one is who's theRams current backup quarterback? He might be
he might be in for something soon. See what I'm saying, See what
(59:34):
you open it up with? Andeven if Stafford loves Garoppolo as a buddy,
you can't help but wonder what happensif Garoppolo shows up late for lunch
one day, didn't shows back tothe team meeting and he's not there.
I mean, you've heard some stories. Oh where'd you go for lunch?
Oh? I went to Stafford's wife'shouse I mean cancer, Yes, and
he was there like that every stepof the friggin way. Yeah, I
listen, we got to compartmentalize andthey don't have anything to do with each
(59:59):
other. That's what I'm saying tohell. But I guess why, after
everything they've been through, why didembarrass your Yeah? Why did you have
to mention this on a podcast?Listen? Knowing it's going to go viral?
Like I said, people on George'scampus probably know in the lockers,
some of the fellows knew that theother guy, and the other guy probably
still maybe he has a beer becausehe's the bad boy, maybe tells the
story to a few of his buddiesover the course of time. But at
(01:00:22):
this stage of the game, thatyou did it. Okay, you're a
college kid doing stupid stuff. Thefact that now he's still in locker rooms,
he's still got teammates, and Ican tell you how locker rooms are.
They are ruthless, and you'll bethe butt of the joke. And
then just when and you always thinkit was somebody looking at you different.
I mean I'm looking at it andthinking, why would you do this to
(01:00:44):
him? The one thing out ofthe rule, Well, why embarrassers?
Now people do stupid stuff? Well, why something you can control in a
podcast? Why embarrass your spouse inpublic like this? If he did that
to her, if the role wasreversed, he'd beginning torched even worse than
she is. See, fellas willmake a joke like the first thing a
guy's think about it. Man,who's his back up now? And who
(01:01:07):
is his backup in Detroit? Andwho is this backup three years ago?
I mean it's like, come onnow, man, that's too close to
home for him, meaning a reminderyou had to go out and tell the
world this now. Maybe Stafford's suchjust a cool customer, it's like,
no big deal, man. Theguy and I we've talked it out no
(01:01:28):
big deal. But for her tohold that over his head. Yeah,
and knowing now that the guy who'swith him, now that the whole world
knows he can hold that over Stafford'shead. It's just why the public needed
to know. This makes no senseto me. Yeah, imagine, you
know, Imagine you're at you're atthe facility training, doing everything you got
to do to continue your football career. You go home, you get to
(01:01:50):
see your daughters because he's got allgirls, right, And the next thing
you know, you're sitting down torelax after a long day, and that's
what you have to look at.Yeah, you have to hear that from
your wife. Yeah, there's noway today is a comfortable day for Matt
Stafford around as well. No,absolutely, because now when they walk into
a restaurant for sports fans, whatare you thinking coming out the tunnel after
(01:02:10):
get Oh, that's the one whowas bro and you know what everybody else
do. They went and googled whothe backups were when he looked them up.
Why, I don't understand. What'sthe point I want you to reverse
the role. I'm not saying doit private? Private? You do it,
dude, that's your private business. But in public you can control it.
You didn't need to know this.It doesn't make me feel better that
(01:02:31):
I know the backup was banging Stafford'swife. Matter of fact, it kind
of bothers me that she would evensay that. Yeah, exactly, if
you're if you're in this love together, certain things certain Yeah, and she's
in the podcast host, Oh yeah, so hotly that was hot. Oh
(01:02:52):
yeah. When Stafford comes back andsays, you had no idea, but
the girl you were rooming with itthe delta Gamma sorority. I was banging
her left and right on a regularbasis. That was so hot. It
was hot. You know what thepodcast was said, that's not that's yeah,
that's what a dog. Imagine imaginethe podcast host if if Stafford was
on one and he's asking questions likewhat was that ass Like, yeah,
(01:03:15):
oh it was like an onion dude. Oh really? Oh yeah, you
still talked to her, came backand I touched still yeah, still got
on social media, gave it alittle ten next four times. Yeah,
and then you're looking at him exactlyhow would she feel about that? And
then side by side of it onTwitter, you know, like putting the
old side by side. Well, this is the one he was is.
Yeah. See next thing, youknow, respect, they're pulling up Kelly's
(01:03:37):
picture from when she was in collegecompared to the girl that was hotter,
and they're comparing them right, justlike they're doing for Matt Stafford and whoever
the backup was. It's ridiculous. Why embarrassed, unbelievable. Man, I
need to do this. It wasso unnecessary to control what you can control,
my goodness, need to do it. No, you sure didn't.
Let's get to break next. Onfour Fox seven eighty, The Sean Salisbury
(01:04:00):
Show continued, Matt was a canoodlegallove maker. Okay, so the backup,
you know, thummed it up.I don't know what I mean.
Okay, this is a sentience seemsYeah, dude, there's one right now.
Yeah, I'm looking at like atwitter. Dude. You can't do
this, iause, it's gonna liveforever now forever. Oh, here's Matt
(01:04:23):
right and here's Kelly with the backup. What why do they know we're having
to do? But why do this? Year? Because you know what every
other guy's doing now too, They'redoing the same. No, every guy
sitting there side eye and their oldwoman who didn't do anything wrong with this
crazy as did she? Did shedo that in school? Dude? Yeah,
exactly this. These dudes are lookingat their significant other and they're like,
(01:04:46):
if I if I played college sports, would you have bang my backup?
Facts? The questions coming out today, But dude, it's like this
too, but you're side eye onthem because even no matter what the answers,
you're like, you lying, notsomeone who doesn't deserve the blame.
It's a misdirectioned blaze. Tripley.Do you still have that audio? You
got it right there in front ofyou, so tripleing, let's run that
(01:05:10):
audio again. So this is MattStafford's wife, Kelly. She was on
Off the Vine podcast and she talksessentially about hooking up with the backup quarterback
to piss off Matt Stafford. Wait, so was he trying to casually date?
And you were all, yeah, girl, anyway, long story,
sure, it wasn't that cute ofa relationship. At first, I hated
him, I loved him. Idated the backup to piss him off,
which yes, oh yes, hewas a bad boy too, like Matthews,
(01:05:32):
so sweet and southern and the cutright there. Okay, So she
basically says the backup was the badBoy, Matt Stafford was the southern gentleman.
That's the one you want to marry. But the other one. What
she's saying is Matt used to cuddleher, and thet about yeah showed me.
(01:05:58):
I mean what, yeah, yeah, man, Matt used to cuddle
me. In the Bad Boy,Joe Cox used to slam around love Maker.
But you should have seen the backuppet my hair one time, you
know, and yanked it and I'mlike, ha, harter, daddy,
Matt, Matt doesn't do this forme, but yeah, Mary one in
(01:06:19):
bag my gosh, dude, andyou know what in this this? Uh
who is it again, Kelly Bristowor whoever, Caitlyn Bristow or whoever it
is? Off the viney she askedthe questions. I know, but she's
like, oh, yeah, that'syeah. Don't talk like that. Oh
yeah, girl, tell me CaitlynBristow. She's a former bats Arette go
(01:06:41):
figure. Oh oh, I meanlook it got it did numbers. That
clip did numbers. So they're makingmoney off of it, that's for damn
sure. But damn, poor MattStafford. I mean Mike goodness, Joe
who Joe or is that his name? Who's Joe the guy? Or yeah,
Joe Cox? It's not so Idon't know if it's Joe Cox or
who ever it is. It's it'snot uh, it's not number fourteen this
(01:07:03):
dude, is it. That's that'sJoe Cox. Yeah, yah, yeah,
yeah, redhead. That's that's whopeople are speculating. But then there's
another one that is saying it's nothim. I don't care if he's a
bad boy or not. You gotto put a bag over his head.
That is a butterface. Man.If I've ever seen one, god,
he'd make a skunk's butt pucker.Uh No, I don't know if that's
(01:07:25):
him. Antonio Brown called him thecracker of the day, and late Kiffin
quote tweets it does you know whatthe baby what spits of Matt Stafford?
Right, ladies and gentlemen, Uh, don't be surprised. Like around October,
(01:07:46):
Oh gosh, Matt Stafford's file divorceright, and he is now banging
Kelly Stafford's sis sister. She evenhas one. She probably does? Are
you kidding me? And dude, you know, I think what makes the
worst part makes it the worst islike when she's describing the story, you
could see the joy on her facewhen she's talking about it. It was
(01:08:09):
like still getting a dig in,Yeah, still getting girl. It was
Oh yeah, it was hot.Yeah, and it worked. She said
it worked. She said it worked. You know it's crazy if I mean,
what, what's not the like aboutMatt Stafford? Yeah? What?
What? What bad things have youever heard of? Now he's got to
(01:08:30):
wake up in the morning. Oh, here, girls, we want to
go through here's let me explain youabout social media. Oh that's just here.
Here's the meme of what they're sayingabout what mom did. Okay,
so you want to reverse it.Hey, let's tell the daughters what you
did to me in college. Doyou think the mom wants the daughters to
know that? Right? No,say it louder the people in the back
of the ear. Even if ithappened. Like I said, we all
screw up do something stupid in ourlife. Yeah, I'm not saying that's
(01:08:53):
not a self righteous I'm saying thosethings that screw up on sometimes, when
it comes to the embarrassment of aspouse probably don't need to be talked about
because now they're look, maybe KellyStafford's a little freaking something right, and
maybe and here's Matthew, what agood guy? Oh I can steal that
woman. I mean that the thoughtsthat now he has to wake up and
(01:09:15):
be the he's the butt of thejoke. Now he is the he's the
butt of the joke to the point. Sweet and a good guy? Yes,
southern gentleman. Come on, man, Has anyone checked though Matt this
morning man? Yeah? Because youknow what I hate to say it.
If Matt Stafford was a guest onthis show today, we'd opened with,
Hey, how would it feel liketo have that Super Bowl ring? Man?
It must have valued you didn't needvalidation your career. But isn't make
(01:09:38):
your Hall of Famer. And bythe way, let's talk about your wife
and what the story was, becauseI would ask it, because I dig
as far as I could to makehim come clean. Say she thought I
was a sweet Southern gentleman. Facts. Yeah, that's that's what I need
him to say. Oh, boy, did I have I can't wait till
some of the interviews of a podcastand he says, oh, she thought
I was a sweet Southern gentleman. She has no idea, but I'll remind
(01:09:59):
her of this name. Bam.Okay, what I thought you were a
sweet southern gentleman. Yeah, well, if man had ball, she'd be
my uncle. Okay, So itjust to him. It's like, why,
what was the purpose of this toembarrass your spiles? Oh gosh,
the poor guy really and what hashe ever done that you don't? Is
(01:10:23):
he just a good dude? Hedidn't wake up and they had a I
mean, I can tell you whatyou're gonna tell me. He wakes up
this morning and like, oh honey, that was so funny. The world.
Now now I'm the butt of thejoke. Ye, the world and
we're still married. Come on,Kelly Stafford's got to be better than now.
Yeah, it's crazy, man.I just don't understand why, why,
(01:10:45):
why even why even uh mention thatsomething from seventeen eighteen years ago?
Oh he was the bad boy.Matt wasn't. Matt loved to cuddle and
Joe Cox didn't. If it was, who's the other one, I don't
know, Gray something Gray something logangray logan Gray. There you go.
He was the other backup. There'slike five backup. Who knows. Maybe
she ran through all of them.I don't know. Maybe it's one that
(01:11:08):
nobody well, I don't even knowwho those cats are, right, Apparently
apparently she she liked the QBS.Good gracious. I feel so bad for
Matt Stafford that he has to sitthere and be and eive of those who
feel bad or were laughing at someof this stuff. And it's like,
man, come on, he didn'tneed to embarrass him like that. So
(01:11:29):
let's see. Uh, I mean, this is what it is now,
Matt when when the when the when? I didn't mean to interrupt you,
but when when the sweet southern gentlemanwants the the the the bad girl.
You know what he's called? Whata dog? Dog? He's a dog.
He had something sweet and and andand gave it up, right,
Yeah, gave it up for her? Yeah exactly. Uh see, now
(01:11:51):
this is what it is. Ijust googled Matt Stafford's backup and it says
Matt Stafford's entire backup quarterback room iscalled into question after or his wife makes
an odd admission. Yeah, now, everybody's gonna go see now, and
that's gonna set at the top ofof all his social media stuff and everybody's
gonna and if he says something thatpeople that you know he says has an
(01:12:12):
opinion, they're gonna go say, well, why don't you go ask the
backup quarterback? Maybe he can tellus, Uh, come on, man,
Logan Gray, Blake Barnes, Jonathanday Laol and Joe Cox were all
the backups. Wall don't know anyI don't either, So which one?
Which one? Looks like a badboy? Now? Joculation and it's just
gonna keep coming back with Somebody isgoing to ask Stafford about it. I
mean, Joe Cox just looks likea total dip who almost Wow, he
(01:12:34):
looks like he might be a goodguy or a bad boy, right,
he looks like howdy duty? ButI what do I know? At least
in that in that picture seventeen yearsago, that was when he was at
Jaja brought up to do a reallyattractive redhead. I don't know now there's
anything wrong with that, Damn dude. They played They played Hawaii in the
Sugar Bowl. Good for Why youmaking a sure Brennan? Remember Brennan?
(01:12:58):
Yeah, l ip br Yeah.I think that was June Jones team too,
Yeah it was. Yeah, theygot your ass whooped for Yeah,
they were a little bit overmatched.Well that backup quarterbacks they were doing work
apparently, So I'm not talking onthe field either. I feel bad for
Stafford. Let's get to break.Let's let's talk about JJ Redick. He's
now the Lakers head coach. Nexta sports flock seven ninety win, Sean
(01:13:24):
Salisbury continues on seven ninety. Hopefullythat's a sign of the things to come
for the Astros against the Oriels tonighthere in minute by right, I'll go
home and play Madden and play withMatt Stafford's backup. Don't be that.
Don't be that guy. Don't bethat now, if you're one of Matt
Stafford's teammates at the quarterback room, you're gonna stay away from Kelly. If
(01:13:45):
you're like, I ain't getting anywherenear her because I want man, he's
too nice a guy. I ain'tgetting anywhere near her or your poundsen unbelievable,
dude. Did they get an argumentbefore and that was just her way
of like, I'm going to buryhim today? How would embarrass his ass?
And when I saw something on Twittersaid, well, everybody's big mad
at this for when they were thishappened before they were dating, and they
(01:14:08):
were young, their kids in college. It's not the fact that it happened
the story, right, it's thefact that now everybody in the world knows,
and matt Stafford's the butt of thejokes when you didn't have to say
that. It's not that it happened, it's said she was all too eager
to share. That's a problem aboutit. Yeah, that's the woman you
tried that did. I mean,here we go, let's get a woman's
(01:14:31):
perspective from Kelly about Kelly. She'sjust ridiculous. Seven one three two two
five seven ninety Holly, what doyou think about Kelly Stafford? Man?
She is so wrong for that. She needs to have her wife's card revoked.
I mean, come on, youdon't do that. I mean,
if you want to talk to yourgirlfriends and private about something that happened,
(01:14:53):
like you say, in college, when you're not other a lifetime and what
ten kids ago, that's one thing. But to go on social media and
do that, I mean, Ifeel so bad for Matthew Stafford. That
is just she's totally wrong for that. What's the point, you know,
Holly, Like, what why evenif it happened just to embarrass your spouse.
(01:15:14):
Either way, that's not what youdo, right, Holly. That
had to be the whole point ofit, just to go and get some
clickbaits. I mean, does shethinks she needs to be more popular than
she is? I mean, didn'tit sound Holly like she was like there
was a like a jealous tone becausehe's the star of the family that she
needed to and he's never acted likethe star of the family. He's been
(01:15:34):
nothing but a kind, good guy. Now, nobody refers to Matthew Stafford
as some arrogant prick. You knowwhat I'm saying. He's just a good
guy who seems to be a hellof a family man. The fact that
it happened isn't the key here.Of course, they were young and super
the fact that she had to shareit and humiliate him at this stage of
his career, he's got to gointo the locker room with the fellas.
(01:15:55):
She didn't need to do that.It was almost she was way too eager
to make him look bad in thatpodcast, bragging about it. Yes,
yes, girlfriend, that does notlook That does not hit you any any
good looks when you're bragging about somethinglike that. I mean, it kind
of makes it look like a youknow, a hope and fact fact Holly.
And now he's supposed to walk in. Now, think about this when
(01:16:17):
the daughters ask, or they goon social media at some point, because
they will their kids. Why arethey talking about you like this? Mom?
What does this mean? And Matt'sthe one who has to explain it
to him. Yeah, there's nodoubt. Imagine if it was reversed,
she'd be there's no doubt kill,he'd be canceled and everything. I mean,
(01:16:38):
come on, exactly right. It'sjust that she didn't need to embarrass
her spouse. They can talk aboutit at home and quiet. And now
you've got to think about the collateraldamage the kids and what he walks into
the locker room and the fellas arelooking at him like and if the backup
quarterbacks are mad. I promise I'mnot doing that stuff. You just don't
need that reminder. I just thinkshe hand I lost I lost respect for
her yesterday I did, did youa lot? A lot? I didn't
(01:17:00):
hear about it so the day whenyou guys were talking about it, But
my goodness, I mean, I'mjust I'm kind of shocked about it.
I mean, she's she's always they'vealways been kind of seeing this kind of
tight unit, especially with her goingthrough the cancer and everything, and for
her to turn around and do thisto him, man, it just kind
of zero loyalty, right, Andthere's no self righteous who of us hasn't
done something stupid, regardless of wedone something stupid. It's not that she
(01:17:25):
did something well, maybe she didn'tthink it was stupid at the time she
got her husband it made him jealousor bothered him, But the fact,
the fact that she had to yes, the fact that she and she made
sure she let us know it worked, but the fact that she had to
share it is the bigger problem.Like I said, it's not self righteous.
We all do stupid stuff. ButI guess the moral of this story
is just, no matter what youdo, try not to embarrass your spouse
(01:17:45):
either way, right. And it'stough enough to be married, going through
marriage when everybody's living, right,But to remind her of the old school
story, man, I just Idon't know if you're Matthew Stafford now your
head's on a swivel, aren't youasking yourself? I wonder if anybody in
the NFL has done this to me, you know, or if my wife
didn't this one with a backup whenI was playing in the pros after we
(01:18:06):
got married, even though she mademe a perfectly loyal right. Yeah,
I don't even know, yeah exactly. At least we know he's a really
good guy. But man, hemust be a boring lover, I guess,
Holly, thankwise. I can't waitto hear Matthews come back on a
(01:18:27):
podcast, and please tell me he'sgoing to get a good dig in.
I can't wait to hear. Yeahsa skeleton now that bone ow. Yeah.
And you know what I would imagineis the quarterback of Georgia and being
a handsome guy from Dallas. Iwould imagine Matthew Stafford probably has a few
stories that can be the topper onher stories. No pun intended, Holly,
(01:18:47):
thanks great stuff, Yeah too,I love she kind of makes you
look like a hoay topper. Yeah, yeah, pun intend Yeah, I
guess am. According to Kelly Staffordin college, I guess matt Stafford was
too much of a topper, youknow what I mean? Maybe you should
have been a bottomer, right maybe, or you know, maybe just spice
(01:19:10):
it up a little bit. Justbe a good guy that just backs her
and he did. He always has. Yeah, don't get that. Look
at your eye. Gosh see that, look at it. We're joined in
the party, enjoyed. It's nota party. I wonder well they woke
up spot. You think that's ahappy day in the stafford? Probably not?
Probably not. Can you go tothe judges say I'm not giving her
(01:19:33):
half? Seriously? All right, let's let's get to the eight o'clock hour.
A surprising move coming from the Universityof Houston Athletic Department. What happened?
That's next? K Houston AHD Houstonan i Heeart radio station, the
exclusive audio home of NBC's coverage ofthe twenty twenty four Paris Olympics. This
(01:19:56):
is Sports Talk seven ninety the Astros, the Rockets, Rockets, your home
for your home teams, driven bythat classic elite to be you at GMC
Studios for the elite car buying experience. Saulsbury, ol Salisbury, Houston.
(01:20:17):
Okay, let's do this. SeanSalisbury to USC Truth, longtime friend,
Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima, goLobos. This is the Seawan Salsbury Show.
I don't know. I guess mayberumors you could say about the firing
(01:20:38):
of Chris Peesman. I just wantyour initial thoughts because I know we've talked
about the job that Chris Peessman hasdone as the athletic director. Obviously,
Kelvin Sampson being at the University ofHouston has done tremendous things for not just
the men's and women's basketball programs, but for the University of Houston as a
whole. University Houston now in theBig Twelve. They got themselves a big,
nice stadium t T e c U. Their track program is always good,
(01:21:00):
Baseball on the decline a little bit, but I'm sure they'll get back
into it. Now being a partof the Big Twelve, I mean,
the athletic program at University of Houstonhas done some good things over the last
couple of years. They got WillieFritz now is their head football coach driving
and that's a Chris Peesman higher.Yes, and it's a damn good one.
Listen, I'm going to tell youthis. He's a friend. He's
done some phenomenal things for me,and I mean just insight stuff that he
(01:21:26):
shared that's mattered a lot to me. I'm going to have a meeting with
him this week. We interacted lastabout a week, a little over a
week ago. I don't know why. I can tell you this. From
my vantage point, Chris Peesman hasbeen nothing but awesome respected, I can
(01:21:47):
promise you as deep as I knowwhat I know and watching him, his
love for the University of Houston, the kids there in the program is palpable.
He gentleman, has always been kind. I think he's extremely well respected.
(01:22:09):
I know he loved it, lovedsports. I don't have any idea
what goes on and why they madethe decision, But from my vantage point,
Chris Peesman has been nothing. Ifyou're an athletic, if you're a
university and you need an athletic directorfor hire, interviewing because I think Chris
Peesman has been great and I thinkhe's a fantastic human being. I can't
(01:22:33):
tell you what goes on in theirmeetings, what goes on there, and
what he's done. I mean fromeverything I've I was doing a paper on
diversity and inclusion in universities and stufffor my master's at A and M,
and two people I talked to I'mtalking about spent sixty to ninety minutes with
both was. Chris Peesman and KelvinSampson were two of the people I interviewed
(01:22:57):
and they sat there and and wedive deep and they The reason I say
that is that's a big part ofwhat we're doing now in schools too,
right. I mean you've got tobe I mean to be able to understand
that part of the program and thatpart of society. And I was forever
grateful. So you're never gonna findme saying a negative thing about Chris Peesman
(01:23:17):
and his dedication and what a goodperson he is. So, but what
goes on behind the meetings of whetherit's a disagreement or an agreement over how
much money they're doing this collective?Nil? You know a coach when to
do this, when to do that? Business decisions. I have no idea
about behind closed doors. I'll leavethat to the people who are gonna do
(01:23:39):
it. But for me, Idon't see how you we can't see that
Chris Peessman made an impact and agood one, and that he's very worthy
of running another program. And Ithought he did a great job. So
and as a human being, whichis to me is more important than anything
to do with sports. I holdChris Pessman in tremendously high regard. Chris
(01:24:00):
Pezman letter three seasons for the Cougarson the football field from nineteen ninety to
nineteen ninety two. He was ateam captain in ninety two. Then he
was hired as the athletic director onDecember December eleventh, twenty seventeen. They
opened up at the Fertida Center inDecember of twenty eighteen under the helm of
Chris Pezman as the athletic director, and they improved their facility. Right,
yeah, all of it. Ijust what a surprising move. I never
(01:24:27):
I had zero idea. The universitypresident renewed Cater said quote, Chris Pezman
has ushered our athletics program through aperiod of incredible transformation, and we are
grateful for his leadership over the pastsix years. He has been a pivotal
part of our entry into the Bigtwelve Conference and championed the success of student
athletes on the field and in theclassroom. This was a difficult but necessary
(01:24:50):
decision as we navigate a paradigm shiftin collegiate athletics. I want to thank
Chris for his dedication to u ofH and to our student athletes on behalf
of the university was christ and hisfamily. The very best end quote it
sounds from her statement, did itbusiness wise they wanted to go in a
different decision business meeting and il orI don't know. I have zero idea
(01:25:15):
if that's what it is. Butas they shift paradigms into athletic moving forward,
it was something that needed to bedone, is what she said.
Is that right? It had tobe done. This was a difficult,
but necessary necessary Okay, So maybethere was a I don't know they thought
that the move to the Big twelve, which was what last year did,
there was something that whatever it was, it just seems like a their business
(01:25:39):
decision. Like I said, youcan't convince me that Chris Pessman has not
done a fantastic job. Now,like I said, all's we can do
it from our vantage point. We'renot in those meetings. We don't know
where if there was a disagreement onwell, this direct direction of the program,
direction of a certain team in theyou know, in the program,
whether it's football or basketball or baseball. I have no idea. I know
(01:26:00):
this well respected good man. I'venever heard anybody say anything negative about the
guy, yeah, or his Andwhen I say negative, that he he
was never in over his head. The guy was solid, great leadership,
and I think he's made the universitybetter and he leaves it in good shape.
I can't fathom that this is ChrisPeesman's last gig in a in a
leadership position. He got a lotof good in front of him. He
(01:26:23):
has he doesn't need apologize for anything, not that he would, because I
just I hold him in high regard. I just don't. I never saw
it coming. So I have somemore details and more reports, especially coming
from Joseph Duarte, who covers youof h as well as anybody does.
Yeah, and I'm going to savethose for next segment. But I just
just from the outside looking in,it's a puzzling move to me because I
(01:26:45):
just feel like University of Houston Athleticsbefore Chris Peesman came in just kind of
kind of outside of the football programwith Tom Herman, and what he did
moving forward, He's done every kindof He's moved the program forward the middle
of the road outside of the footballprogram. He's got a lot to be
proud of for the way he's donefor this program. And like I said,
I don't know about personalities in thebuilding, Brian, you know,
(01:27:08):
it could come down to one personalitymaking that says it's a decision maker saying
no, I just want somebody else. You know, I don't know a
bigger name. I don't know ChrisPeesman's been. I want somebody that I
can trust and that's solid in theprogram, that knows, that has great
vision and knows what the athletes need, but also knows what the university and
fans need and alum need and allthat. I I You're never gonna find
(01:27:32):
me saying a negative thing about ChrisPezman and my dealings with him. He's
been nothing but sensational and obviously outsideof I said, just football. But
Kelvin Sampson's been at You Have VAsince twenty fourteen and he's we know what
he's done well. His impact isnot only palpable, but his impact I'm
not even sure you can chart it. It's been so impressive. I mean,
you look at what Kelvin Sampson hasdone for that program. When he
(01:27:54):
got hired in twenty fourteen, heredid Kelvin Sampson's contract they raised funds to
build a twenty five million dollar practicefacility. In twenty sixteen sixty million dollar
renovation to haw Finds Pavilion, whichwas then renamed to the Fertita Center in
eighteen twenty eighteen. Samson led Houstonto the n IT in his first are
in his second and third seasons, and then finally they exploded, I mean
(01:28:17):
just out of nowhere, right,So Chris Peesman has has done some really
good things, phenomenal things from theoutside looking in. Now again, we
don't know what he's like in thebuilding, but I mean you you atten
told him personally, so I knowwhat he's like. Yeah, from my
vantage point, he's been nothing butgreat leader and great phenomenal human being who
I think people looked up to.And he like I said, we don't
(01:28:39):
know how you can be a greatperson and really great at your job.
And if one person wants to gointo different directions, it's a decision maker.
You've got to deal with it.Half we see it all the time
in sports. But I can tellyou this that if you got an opening
as an athletic director for your athleticdirector at a big program, yep,
you'd be you could do a lotworse than interviewing him. He's done in
(01:29:00):
leadership positions. Yeah that I assureyou. We got any Uh, I
know we got Dominic on hold.I know he's a cougar alum. Do
we have any other cougar lums listening? Seven one, three, two five,
seven ninety I would imagine a lotof them. Yeah, how are
you feeling, cougar alum? Iknow we've had quite a bit that usually
call in Chris Pezman fired as thea D. So how are the cougar
lums feeling this morning? Seven one, three, two two five seven,
IY call in and let us know. And Brian, one last thing before
(01:29:23):
we go to break YEP is inlife and in sports and anything. I
think you know, leadership we hearthat all the time and be that great
leader and difference making all that.I think Also, you always want to
leave whatever walk of life you're in, the situation or the people or the
person better than you found better. And he did and he has Yeah he
(01:29:44):
has. Uh. Joseph Duarte coversthe University of Houston and the Big Twelve
for the Houston Chronicle. He sourcessome deet or he explained some details on
perhaps why Chris Peesman was fired fromthe University Houston. Will get to those
and we'll also take your call sevenone to three, two two five,
seven ninety Rolling along right here onthe Seawan Salisbury show, Hey, locally
owned and operated, not storm Chasers. Is Country Boys Roofing with a K
(01:30:09):
at the beginning and the Z atthe end. Again, locally owned and
operate matters to me, should matterto you too. No job too large,
too small, and their work isdone all over. They're willing to
go anywhere anywhere in the greater Houstonarea. They care and their leader John
has done an unbelievable job. Andthe second people here at Boom they're making
(01:30:29):
those calls to Country Boys Roofing. They're going to help you navigate insurance claims.
They are Texas Windstorm certified and youknow we get that wind certaintied and
gaf's shingle certified as well. Letme re emphasize family owned and operate.
And I want you to understand somethingnow. Sometimes you'll get a little bit
of discount on some things from somepeople. If I told you you were
(01:30:49):
going to get a thousand dollars discount, if you mentioned my name, Sean
Salisbury one thousand dollars. I thinkyou probably do it, especially when you're
going to get the quality work. The Country Boy's Roofing is going to give
you one thousand dollars discount when youmentioned my name again. All the stuff
that you have to go through, let Country Boy's Roofing help eight three two

and one thousand dollars discount from CountryBoy's Roofing. It's storm season and it's
coming. Countryboys Roofing LLC dot commentioned my name for a thousand dollars discount.
Don't wait, let the celebration start. War Sean Salisbury, it's a
(01:31:30):
Sean Salisbury show, Dominic. Iknow you're a big coup guy, man.
What was your thoughts when you sawthis report come out? Uh,
first of all, good morning toall three of you, gentlemen and everybody
that he'll make your show happen.Honestly, guys, give me a minute
till I get this out. Iwasn't surprised. Chris Peesman is a gentleman.
(01:31:53):
Had the pleasure of meeting him severaltimes. He is a gentleman,
he would land on his feet. When doctor Couture hired him, the program
was in shambles. An athletic department, excuse me, the whole department in
general was in shambles. Doctor Coutourhas decided to let him go along with
Tim and Fatida. Let's not foolourselves. Tim and Fatida is our biggest
(01:32:15):
donor. He's the chairman. Thiswas a mutual decision. The reason why
I was not surprised. And guysjust listen to me on this. Coach
Calvin Sampson, the head coach ofour basketball team, came out a couple
of weeks ago and publicly stated thatthe one thing that we have to do.
When he said we, he wastalking about the university's athletic department,
(01:32:39):
the student body and those that supportthe institution. We have to get butts
in the seats at TDECU Stadium. He wasn't talking about the Fatida Center.
He was talking about the football stadium. That is the cash cow. As
great of a program as our basketballprogram has become under the guidance of coach
(01:32:59):
Kelvin Sam football is the horse. And no matter whether your Division one,
Division two, whatever, and yougot to forgive me the subdivisions and all
this stuff. That's that's that's newfor me. I'm still on the old
school waves of the divisions being separatedby the numbers. Coach Kelvin Sepson came
out of state at that publicly.Okay, that wasn't an in dietment on
(01:33:21):
Chris Pessman. That was just saifthey're saying he and I caught, we
have to do more to fill upthe football stadium. That's the money football,
baseball, track and field, whatyou name it in college sports.
It's different now. It is abusiness. And I stated I came on
here. My initial statement was,Chris Pesman is a gentleman, great guy.
(01:33:45):
He will land on his feet somewhereelse. But it's not about being
a gentleman. It's about going outthere and hustling and getting and getting donors.
N I l runs this thing.It wasn't in Houston, it wasn't
a southern California. It runs inat the University of Texas. It doesn't
matter what school, what level you'reon. NIL runs it, and it
(01:34:06):
runsn't more than a five hundred dollarshandshakes. That was going on back in
the day when we used to play. It is big, big money,
big contracts. We live in probablythe number one industry energy energy capital of
the world. We live in acity that has multiple countless fortune five hundred
(01:34:30):
corporations. If you look at myschool, and I'm very proud of my
school, but our biggest NIO donorsoutside of Tilm and Fertida is gallery furniture
and a couple of law firms. Now, there are others that sprinkled in,
but it doesn't represent the landscape ofcollege athletics. Doctor Couture has done
(01:34:55):
on a phenomenal job on the academicside of University of Houston is on the
cuff of becoming an AAU accredited institutionthat's outside of Ivy League. That's big
time. Doctor Couture sees the landscape, whether people want to acknowledge it or
not. We don't know what's gonnahappen with the Big Twelve. We don't
(01:35:15):
even know if the Big Twelve isgonna be named still the Big Twelve because
that's going through naming rights with Allstateprobably taking over the naming rights of the
Big Twelve. So she's doing whatshe has to do on the academic side.
As far as getting up AAU accredited, that's something that the University of
Nebraska can't say. And they're inthe Big Ten. So we don't know
where this comference landscape is going togo. But what she has done is
(01:35:38):
put us in the position academically aswell as athletically to succeed. Now,
before I go, I gotta saythis, outside of our basketball program headed
by coach Sampson and our check andfield program headed by Carl Lewis and Lewd
Burrell at one time, but hewent back to his alma model with Auburn,
that's all we got to show. And we want our last scape.
(01:36:00):
We want our footprint with that redand white US logo that I'm damn proud
of, to be a bigger playerin all sports. The college baseball tournament
is ending today or tomorrow, Ibelieve. And for the last three years
our baseball program, we got therecruits. But what happened, we succeeded.
(01:36:20):
Whether we was in the American AthleticConference or whether we're now in the
Big twelve. Why have we beenpark that matters. It has to be
more than just basketball, and wehave to go out and coach coach Simpson.
He hustled his tail off on thatcampus, walking with a megaphone,
(01:36:41):
sweating, begging kids to the studentbody to come out, begging along my
like myself, to come back outand put money into the program. I'm
not a millionaire, I'm not wealthy. I'm a blue collar person. I
work my butt off, but Igive back to my institution. But we
need more. And as great asa guy as Chris Pessman is, doctor
Coustour, we need University used toshould have more NIL deposits than what we
(01:37:08):
have. And I believe, Ibelieve the lack of I believe the lack
of success on the football side. The building, the stadium great, the
new football only building great, thebasketball Areada great. We still need more
And is that fair in twenty twentyfour? Yes, it is. You
want to know why it's fair becausewe're in competition with everybody. We're in
(01:37:30):
competition with everybody, and Sean, you guys are on a competition where U
C l A. UCLA is acompetition where USC and it goes on and
on and on and on and on. So it's great of a guy as
Chris Pessman is. We need thatUvation logo to be a factor in not
just basketball, not just track andfield. We need to be a factor
in front ball. And we needbig time nil dollors to come to our
(01:37:54):
program and say, hey, weneed this kid. And that sounds crazy,
and I know that sounds but ifyou're not doing that, you're going
to fall off by the wayside. And that's why I feel Chris Pessman was
let go. It was not amutual thing. I don't think he saw
this coming. But numbers don't lie, and we're behind the eight ball on
(01:38:15):
a lot of stuff. Yeah, appreciate that. Some good stuff I can
tell you. And the reality iswhether you want to embrace it or not.
Is nil and collective or here tostay? Now? Can I can
I a shameless pub of course?Just quick. I am a partner in
a company now that I've kept underit's now about to explode because we added
(01:38:36):
something to it that and we've alreadygot power five schools under the umbrella can
add twenty percent of their niown collectivelike that. Do the math. Do
the math now, And I'm nottalking about the University Houston, I'm talking
about at other places. Twenty wantyou want to add the nil collective.
(01:39:04):
You it's the name of the game. Set up a meeting with me.
It's the name of the game, and it is and it is a game
changer. So there you go.Let's just had it figured I'd throw that
in his why not p s A, Yeah, why not? And I'm
really excited about it. Get inwhere you fit in, big dog.
That's everywhere, feel especially if you'rebiquitous, especially if you're the backup quarterback.
(01:39:28):
At times I might have fared wellthen apparently, at least that's what
she says. All right, let'skeep talking about University Houston firing. Chris
Pezmand Joseph Duarte reporting on this, and then there's some interesting uh tidbits from
Kelvin Sampson just a couple of daysago talking about the changing landscape in college
athletics. We'll discuss that next onSports Talk seven ninety with The Shawn Salisbury
(01:39:55):
Show. Continued. Fuck to Jimmywants to talk about you versus Houston Cooger's
Jimmy, welcome in. What's upguys? Thanks for having me, sir.
I'm good. Uh. I feellike Dominic probably covered everything already.
Uh after listening to him. ButBrian, I'll correct you on one thing.
It's a couture, doctor catur whatI say, it's couture. She's
(01:40:23):
a celebrity on campus. I don'twant you to get a uh yeah,
essentially, I be careful what Isaid. But no, I feel like
Dominic said most of it. ButI agree with them on on a lot
of things. That the Samson hirewas before Pesman, which y all mentioned,
right, so we can we canattribute the rehire or the extension to
(01:40:45):
him, which I guess is partof what he did the big Toel transition
as well. But Dominic's right.I mean, if you look at the
I was, I was shocked, but at the same time, when you
take up from a high level,I wasn't as a surprised. I mean,
the baseball program has been mediocre foryears. Softball is a mess.
Track and field has carried US.Football has and mediocre for years. I
mean, I'm a season ticket holdergraduated five years ago. I mean,
(01:41:10):
the tickets are so cheap and it'sstill fifty percent attendance every game, and
half those people are the opposing fan. So basketball has carried the program for
years, which is great because theschool has needed it, but I mean
the athletic program as a whole,it's been pretty stale. So it just
shows me that renew and Tillman mebusiness and as an OLM, I mean,
(01:41:31):
I can't really be upset about thatbecause it means that they want more
and I think we need more.So I'm excited to see what they do.
But yeah, I was shocked, but I guess if you take a
higher lens, I think they wantto win and they need more money.
And I don't think Chris was Chriswas the right guy for it. Okay,
let me ask you this, Jimmy. I get that, like I
(01:41:53):
said, my personal I don't knowwhat goes on behind closed doors. And
you see, like I said,I think we're all surprised. But when
you do a deep dive, maybeyou're looking to grasp the ni L collective,
raise more money, whatever that is. You know, as an alum,
you probably look at it even deeperthan that. My dealings with him
been nothing, but he's been nothingbut class and I think he's done some
good things and the best of whichhiring Willie Fritz is a good thing.
(01:42:14):
And keeping Kelvin Sampson, you know, uh In the fold, not let
him get away to the NBA orsome other big program. Now, one
thing, I'm curious, why whydon't people even when they were winning,
remember when Tom Herman started here,Why don't Why aren't they Why aren't people
showing up? Well, yeah,I don't think that's the silly and athletic
(01:42:38):
director problem. That's my point.I agree that that's a that's a Houston
fan base problem, and the problem. I mean, that's not just US
athletics. That's that's all Houston sportsteams are winning, they're in the seats
that they're not there at home.But so I I, yeah, I
guess your I guess your point therewith with Herman. When when you first
started, the seats were seats areempty, and then once we're eight eight
(01:43:00):
or oh eight and oh nine andzero, all of a sudden it was
sold out. So you know,I don't know what you what you really
do from a from an athletic directorstandpoint, But Dominic got a point to
Sampson was in every classroom when Iwas in school trying to get people to
go to games, and it tookyears to do it, but he got
people there. He's the best salesmanthe universe has, There's no question and
(01:43:23):
we've and we've never seen that froma football side of things, I think
that Willie Fritz hires great And I'dlove if you guys have had him on
the radio at some point to talkbecause I think what he's doing from a
recruiting standpoint is fantastic. Yeah,I think all the people that all the
people that have a strength is bottomor second to bottom for for he,
I think will be surprised. Hegets it. Fritz gets it, he
(01:43:43):
gets coach his ass off to WillieFritz has been a winner every single place
that he has been and then inlike a week of his tenure so far,
Jimmy, I'm sure you know this. He he took you of H's
recruiting from like one twenty in thenation to like we were fifty or whatever
it was. Kind of it's apretty fertile recruiting ground in this city brand
the suburbs. He's literally wanted everyprogram that he's been at at the highest
(01:44:03):
level, like meaning getting his programsto championships. So it's a great hire,
agreed, and I and I thinkit's going to take time on the
football program you're still going to seea lot of NT seats in the beginning.
But I mean, Willie's got towin. But I trust that he's
going to us. But we'll see. I mean, overall, I'm not
I'm not upset about what happened yesterday. Uh, it just it just knows
(01:44:26):
you that we're new until I wantto win, and they got they had
to make changes, so makes sense. Makes sense. There you go,
Thanks for there's Jimmy from your insideon them for you and dominate. Great
stuff from the alumni side. AndI don't think you're gonna hear one person
come on here and say they don'tlike Chris Pessman. He just hasn't done
a good job. But some whetherit's in there. Apparently the University of
Houston wants more asses in the standsand more money raised, yep, for
(01:44:51):
whatever that is. And there's waysto do it. Yeah. And so
Joseph Duarte reporting on this UH firingof Chris Pesmen, and he basically said
that a source h tells the HoustonChronicle Chris Peesman was caught off guard by
Thursday's decision to fire him. Hewas originally scheduled for an end of year
review with the school president UH quoteit was a surprise to him. End
(01:45:14):
quote. The source set also moresources telling Houston Chronicle that top levels of
UH administration had become frustrated with ADChris Peessman's inability to make significant progress to
increase revenue through sponsorships and fundraising, and it was a consensus decision to make
a change. So there you go. It's money raising money in NIL all
goes back to NIL. NIL haschanged everybody's game and people's jobs. I
(01:45:40):
mean, we're talking about a aan AD losing his job because of NIL,
essentially losing his job because of NIL, and you have to embrace it.
Wow, that's where we're at withNIL. Also, there's some other
things going on, you know.Jimmy mentioned that the University Houston women's softball
(01:46:02):
program as a mess. There's beensome allegations made anonymously that have talked about
administration's lack of actions, which includesplayer requests for following up on incidents,
one of which includes a claim thata teammate on the softball team carries a
gun around and acts erradically and threatensplayers. Another claim is that people within
(01:46:26):
the program are afraid to whistleblow becausetheir name, because of their names,
and somehow if those names get revealedto the head coach, Christian Vessely probably
butchered that one, she will allegedlyretaliate. So you got some issues and
some toxic culture over at the HoustonCougar softball program from some of these allegations.
So not sure if that's that's thebig part of it. But the
(01:46:49):
administration, which which also no nodisrespect, is not going to be your
money winner collective nil money at theunivers I'm just saying if they've got that
going on as well, can't babysitthem all, No, you can't.
Can't babysit them all. But Chriswill land on his feet and do good
things. And I'm sure he wascaught off guard because, like I said,
(01:47:11):
looking forward to seeing him and meetingwith him this week or early next
week and unfortunate, but he'll dogood things. And I'm sure the University
of Houston and Tillman Fertita and doctorKature will hire somebody that they feel is
the right position for the nil collectivepush forward to raise more money and to
put more and part of winning iswhat getting great recruits, keeping the best
(01:47:35):
players in Houston. In Houston, which if you're A and M and Baylor
and University of Texas, you're atTCU, you're like, oh hell no,
or LSU or University of Oklahoma oranywhere else. You're like Southern cal
anybody. They're coming here and raidingall these good players. And that's part
of it. You got to keepthe great ones. You got to build
a fence around it and keep themif you can. Hard to do because
(01:47:57):
this isn't your normal small This isin a college town, right. This
is a big city, fourth orfifth largest in the country right out there,
number three, yeah, and mediamarket fourth or fifth, yeah.
And so you've got to and theycome from all but you've got to convince
them to stay here. And that'sWillie Kelvin Sampson, Willie Fritz. That's
that's their next step. And they'vealready achieved that has Kelvin Sampson and Willie
(01:48:21):
Fritz is gonna try to do thesame thing here. There's enough athletes in
this city the surrounding areas they canthey can they can build a program in
both sports, yeah, and inbaseball quite frankly as well. All three
of them. I think the baseballprogram you should be one of the top
every single season. There are somany talented players in this city, and
(01:48:41):
there are so many jucos in thestate of Texas that pump out phenomenal baseball
players. You need some experience rightnow to go win. Not everybody can
go to Texas A and M.Not everybody can go to Ole Miss.
Not everybody can go to L.S U. T. Look what Dallas
Baptists. Oh yeah, Dallas Baptistis in the running to get to a
super regional in the College World Seriesevery single year. And look what they've
They've got gone and got transfers andright juco kids and turn them into a
(01:49:03):
quite frankly, they're becoming a baseballpower that they're there every single year,
Dallas. This is what I'm saying, Dallas Baptist. Ye, we're not
talking about Arizona State or Texas Aand M, or University of Texas or
Stanford Baseball or Wake Forest or youknow what I'm saying, or Vanderbilt.
We're talking Aboutdallas Baptists. And theycan play with any of them. Yeah,
(01:49:24):
I'm going to ask you on adaily basis I'm actually surprised that Todd
Winning has been able to keep hisjob as a head baseball coach for Universityison
because they haven't been good in acouple of years. We'll go find out,
Yeah, we sure are. KelvinSampson talked about the changing lamp's landscape
in college athletics and it has todo with n I L What did he
say? We'll discuss an next onSports Talk seven ninety. Sean Salisbury Brian
(01:49:48):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues Good Goon Sports Talk seven ninety talking about the
changing landscape and college athletics, hesaid, quote, university presidents are going
to have to make some tough decisions. And then he spoke a little bit
(01:50:08):
more and he talked about University Houstonspecifically, and he said, quote,
we can't let the SEC and Bigten get too far ahead of us.
We have to find a way tostay competitive. And that was in regards
to on other conference and conferences, finding new sources of revenue, all going
(01:50:30):
back to revenues. Everything you neverthought it would get into the where it's
college it is. College sports nowis all about revenue and how can I
pay my players and how can wekeep up and get down. It's not
just that you know you're you gotto ask boosters the same boosters for more.
You got to create new ways todo it. Because a lot of
boosters give a lot of money anddonors give a lot of money, and
(01:50:54):
you lean on them to keep raisingthe bar every year, you got to
also raise the bar around them aswell. And it's it's hard to do.
But now the athletic director, youknow when I went to sport Man
and got my masters in sport management, the athletic director his paradigms have had
to shift to in all universities. It's no longer just you know, lead
(01:51:15):
young men and women and and beout in front of the program. And
if you hire the right football coachat certain schools, at the right basketball
coach at Kentucky and that that's abig part of it because you're tied to
those hires. But now it's shakinghands. I mean, it's always been
that way, but it's not justshaking hands, kissing baby, kissing babies.
It is you've got to be notonly the greatest leader, you've got
to be the greatest fundraiser on planet. So you've taken that on you know,
(01:51:40):
sometimes you hire I mean as abasketball coach too. Kelvin Samson's a
basketball coach teaching young men how tobe great players and great people. Now
you got to walk around with themegaphone getting people into football stands. As
an athletic director, it's not justcan you lead now, it's on that
resume, first two lines, greatleader? Can you raise money? And
(01:52:06):
are you buying in to and canyou adjust and adapt to all the changes?
If you're an old school and notwilling to adjust as an athletic director,
been doing it thirty years, youmay have a hard time lasting in
this business with the way you haveto do it. It's the analytics version
(01:52:27):
of athletic directorship. Yeah, whereHey, you may be old school and
go on field and relationships and relationshipsare always going to matter. But now
you've got to get the relationship andyou got to delve into pockets you never
thought you had to delve into.Yeah, And that's the name of the
game. It is the game.It is no question. Yeah. Because
everyone during especially this during this timeperiod, I mean, I've read multiple
(01:52:49):
things from Kelvin Samson talking about revenue, talking about sponsorships, and things like
that. We've heard from two UniversityHouston alumni that's basically echoing the same thing.
You gotta get butts in the seatsfor that TDECU stadium, and you've
got to get ni L money Andyou're now on the You're you're in the
big big twelve. Now you gotto compete and you got to keep up.
(01:53:10):
And it starts with N I L. I mean, if you've got
Tilma Fertita as one of your biggestallies, the biggest meaning, why don't
you have more NI L? Maybethey're just starting to grasp it. I
mean, think how quickly the collectiveand name, image and likeness have have
(01:53:30):
a jumped on top of us.I think how quickly it came down the
pike. And now it's and needanother you know, couple hundred, need
another quarter of a million dollars tokeep a guy here? Okay, how
do we do it? I mean, it's it's it's real, man.
Your facilities have to be top notch. You're collective in NIL. Matter of
fact, the collective in NIL hasbecome quite frankly in sports departments, maybe
(01:53:56):
the most important thing you can dooutside of hiring your coaches think about that.
I mean, I mean that thenwhen I say collect that's part of
the fundraising and money A man thinkabout now that in the building, you
go in the pecking order athletic directorand collective, and in some cases it
may be the other way around.Yeah, it's crazy, man's that's just
like that. I remember joining theshow What Coming Up On two years now
(01:54:21):
next month, and one of thefirst months that we were on, we
were talking about NIL and how itwas becoming more rampant and it was going
to be here before we know it, And my god, it is.
It's full blown, full go now, oh well, if you'll get your
left behind. If you're not intoit, you don't have to like it,
(01:54:42):
but you got to grasp it.Do you realize how big NIL,
and like the transfer portal is,like just college baseball alone is changing the
game and changing how kids get recruited. If you're a high school kid,
you shouldn't even look to go done right now, you should just go
Juco because d ones are not playingfreshmen. The few and far between are
playing freshmen out of high school. They are playing transfers or JUCO guys.
(01:55:06):
Why because the coach wants to.He wants experienced guys so he can get
his contract renew too. So theygot to recruit a freshman, they got
to develop that'll leave in two yearsto go get more money. Or a
guy that's coming to you that youcould go get. That's a that's a
fourth year guy or a fifth yearsenior that can help your team win right
now and you can get a youcan get a redo your contract and you
can win right now. You can'twin four years now, you'll be fired.
(01:55:29):
Look at Paul Skins, he wasat air Force for two years,
ye transferred in LSU. We've gottento the point now one team, one
university trains them and develops them. The next university takes them. Uh.
Tommy White from Tommy Tanks was that, I believe Louisville no North Carolina State
rights n LSU. I got.I know quarterbacks out there have trained some
(01:55:49):
that are legitimate Division one quarterbacks andPower five quarterbacks that they're not. You're
not getting scholarship right now. They'rewaiting and you can now be a listen
and there's no nowadays if you goto a smaller school. Remember what we
used to say when a coach wouldgo to a smaller school. It's his
stepping stone to agree right where therewhere the we're tired of being the bridge
(01:56:13):
school to a bigger school schools. We're tired of saying, well that's what,
that's what a lot of even DivisionI schools that aren't Power five dominant.
I'm gonna go there for a year, I'm gonna get some work,
or two years, I'm gonna develop, I'm gonna get then i'm gonna leave
for more money and a bigger achance to go play somewhere else. So
you've really become the first stop fora lot of kids. Is nothing more
than develop and get it going andmake a name for yourself and then go
(01:56:33):
start somewhere else. And if you'rea coach, don't you want experience guy
to win right now? And ifyou can keep getting them Oregon quarterback Notre
Dame court every year, think aboutthis, that that quarterback who's really good,
they're not gonna take they're saving scholarships. You should start here's what you
should start doing. Here's what's theuniverse are gonna start doing. Instead of
(01:56:56):
recruit the freshman who's a four starguy, go recruit the fourth year junior
or the fifth year senior. Toget him to come to your place,
pay him a little bit more, and now you've got him, he's already
been trained. Go get a guywho's in the same system as you are.
Go get him. And that guywho five years ago would have been
a four star and recruited, hadsigned a scholarship after his junior year or
sophomore year, now can't find theplace he wants to go because well,
(01:57:21):
we just grabbed the wake Forest guy, a Notre Dame Sam Hartman, we
just grabbed. I mean it's it'sdj ouh Anglele. Remember after his freshman
year, he was Trevor Lawrence's theirapparent. He was going to be the
Heisman Trophy frontrunner and he was goingto do it well. He left Clemson,
went to Oregon State, left OregonState and now going to be the
starting quarterback at Florida State. Twoother places have primed him and then somebody
(01:57:45):
else come and replace them. Now, if you're fortunate to get the Trevor
Lawrence it started as a true freshmanand go do their thing great or the
CJ. Strouds of the world. But quarterback rooms are filled with guys who've
played one or two other places nowand it's not just quarterback, but it's
baseball. It doesn't matter right trainingthem and you're getting the experienced version,
and coaches are recruiting him. Youwant to know why all here? You
(01:58:06):
know what? You know what, you know what, the nil and the
collective r brin all they are isthe rich Man's version of JUCO. It
used to be Juco. Go getyourself your grades right in the rest and
a year or two intry, goplay. Now all it is is,
oh, you got all that right, you're a five star guy. But
now somebody else has trained you.Now come to us. We'll give you
a little more money. We cango win right now. It's the rich
(01:58:30):
Man's version of JUCO. Schools, right, That's all it is. Like
if you're an athlete coming out ofhigh school and you don't have any big
D one offers, don't feel it. It doesn't matter. It's not a
big deal. You can go playD two, D three, JUCO and
AIA it doesn't matter, and walkoff one campus in January and in February
the starting player, starting centerfielders, starting quarterback for somebody else. Just baseball
(01:58:51):
alone. I have seen so manyD three, D two guys transferring out
and going to D one's over thelast past season. Yeah, it's not
your matter of fact, you're you're, You're. It's not the end of
your story because you chose a smallerschool at the beginning. It is in
today's day, and all right, let's get into the nine o'clock hour.

You jacked up, you fired up, ready to crack open a cold

it goes well. I don't thinkI don't wish him well. I don't
think you should prepare for him.I don't think you should prepare for a
parade next year in Los Angeles.Know where you should prepare for a parade
this year? Right here for theastros Louisiana Street. Did we get Louisy
Orsi Louisiana Street? Did we getJohn Whitmyer on online four? Triple No,
(02:00:30):
I guess not. Well, we'llcall him up, tell him to
block off Louisiana Street for early Novemberfor the parade because it's back on.
No, we didn't get him.M. Why is ignoring our calls?
Sean? I thought you knew him, because I'm not sure he's prepared for
it to be back on just yet. Yes, I don't know. I've
never met him. M. Idon't know you have, clout. I'm

clout Sean will me? He doso? I know about everybody I know?
All right? Well, you knowI just I lay low. But
thank you very much, triplely.Wyn't you guys get a room again?
Bro? No, I don't.I don't you know. I don't chase
(02:01:15):
Clout. I don't know that youdon't have to chase what's your aura?
Like? These days kids are kidsare saying Aura now big or guys,
I like to think my ViBe's right? What do you look it up?
We'll get you one of them aurarings. No, I'm okay on that
one. I'm just going to thegospel. What do you vibe or Aura?
(02:01:39):
Aura? Okay? Well, Auracan be a beautiful girl who is
loyal and sweet, but when youget to know her, she's fun and
crazy. Okay. Well, aspiritual belief that humans have have a color
around them that some can see.You got you got some color around you,
Doug, Yeah I got I gota sweet aura about me. Yeah
(02:02:03):
I do. But you know I'mkind kinder jeler is a good when you're
around you know, when you geta vibe, when you walk into a
room and somebody they gotta get avibe. Yeah it is. Yeah,
it's a vibe. It is,it's a vibe. So let's go.
Then again, you can't judge everybodyelse feels about your vibe. You can't
live to be a vibe to everybody. You're you're your vibe, You're your
(02:02:26):
aura, and people that want tobe a part of it. Do and
if they don't, didn't get tostepping how please them all? Dog?
And have you been on radio?Just radio, not TV radio thirty years?
Oh, twenty eight years. Let'sgo back fifteen years when you're on
radio, because you say you're akinder gentler Sean, what were you like
fifteen years ago on radio? Youwant me to take you back and have
(02:02:48):
you listeners, show you some clips? Yes, I do, I mean
I could still be. I meanwhen I say kinder jeler, it doesn't
mean I'm not empty in the bucketor being passionate about it. Oh that's
known. No, no, no, no, no no. We know
that sometimes you're not worried about otherpeople's feelings when you're giving your opinion.
(02:03:09):
And he probably shouldn't be. Aslong as I've never not been respectful to
those in the business, I've alwaysI've never made it personal on a radio
television show ever, in twenty eightyears of doing it. Never Sometimes you
want to. But kinder Jeddler meansokay, Like, for instance, JJ
Reddick, I'm not a big fan. This is perfect. I'm not a
(02:03:30):
big fan of JJ Redick, hisTV takes and stuff. While he's a
very smart guy. I think thathe's too hot takeish for me, but
I think he's good. I thinkhe knows basketball. And as a Laker
fan, do I want the Lakersto have success? Yes, In the
past, I would have said thisis a crappy ass hire you hired him
because I mean, I said that, but I said it in a little
(02:03:53):
more dulcet tones. Is that whathe's ADL word? So I but kinder,
jeler, I'm probably I think I'mprobably kind of gentler, just I'm
a little more not really too concernedabout I think a lot of times,
when you first go on TV andradio, you try to please everybody.
Yep. Early on, you knowyou're like, Okay, I want to
say this, but you want toyou don't want to alienate any anybody's you
(02:04:15):
know, if you have an opinionand it's different, Well, what if
the person doesn't like me because myopinion? I think you we all think
that when we first get into TV, you're trying to be a pleaser.
And when I say by kinder andgentler, at that point I got to
the point where I'm not really intothe into I want to please people that
they listen to good entertaining radio ortelevision or whatever you do. I want
to make sure they like it.But I don't think when I walk out
(02:04:39):
of the studio, I don't thinkto myself, I wonder if five people
like me, because I said,I don't think about that. But early
on you do, and then you'llgo and or you'll walk out of after
giving an opinion saying man that Idid. I hurt somebody's feelings by saying
my opinion how I felt. I'mnot like that, so kinder, gentler,
but but I'm more I'm less patientwith even though as you older,
(02:05:00):
they say you get more patient.I'm not sure. I'm a little less
patient with stupidity these days, right, well, because there's so much.
Life is tough enough, but whenyou're stupid, life's really it makes it
a lot tougher. Yeah. SoI just so when I say kind of
jeler, it's kind of a tonguein cheek thing. I'm gonna unload my
opinion whether you like it or not. I think early on I used to
(02:05:21):
care more if people, And thetruth is, why should you care if
it's I still like people when theiropinion is one hundred and eighty degrees different
than mine. I'm not going todislike somebody because their opinion. When they
make it personal is when you'll findthat I'm no longer a kinder Jentler guy.
Okay, So over the years you'lllearn everything. But I've learned one
thing that the common sense in societyover the last thirty years has gone down.
(02:05:45):
And life's tough enough, and it'seven tougher when you're stupid okay,
right and have no common sense. It just is so. But I'm in
and if that hurts feelings, ohwell, I'm not worried about it.
So I've gotten older, I've gottengotten less patient with people who who you
know, I've gotten less patient withhot takes and stuff. Right, But
(02:06:09):
within a Lakers case, I wantthe Lakers to win. But I probably
when I first came out, wouldhave been like, well, if you
say this is doctor, but Idon't care. I want him to win,
but I don't think JJ Reddick wasthe best hire. Hopefully he proves
me wrong God, and I don'tcare what. I'm no longer in the
business of having to please everybody withan opinion, and I think you get
better at TV and radio over theyears, when you do and you'll do,
(02:06:31):
you learn everything. I try to. The one thing I do know
that I'm best about now is Istill gather in knowledge from people that are
better at it than I am,or from fans I think we can.
We're in a business that people thinkbecause we got a mic in front of
our face, that we were theend all, that we know it all.
And that's that's when that's the beginningof the end. When you're in
our position to do it. Istill learn from a simple Twitter. Because
(02:06:55):
they're not getting paid to talk onthe radio doesn't mean somebody who calls in
doesn't know more about a subject thanwe do, right And I when you
finally, when you grasp, whenyou first come out, you think nobody
knows more. I played or andhe said, well, well wait a
second, Heck, I played quarterbackin the league. Doesn't mean a guy
who watches it didn't know a lotabout football. And I've gotten I've gained
knowledge. I guess when you quitdeciding to grasp it and learn something from
(02:07:18):
somebody thirty years younger, and you'rethirty years older, and I'm trying to
seek wisdom and knowledge from everybody,And I think when you finally realize that
you're not the smartest guy in theroom, even if you are and don't
approach it that way, you've gota lot to learn. I still got
a lot to learn. I lovethe business, I love the passions.
Yeah, it's a good time.So you learn a lot, and you'll
see as you roll along, asyou continue, the things you thought you
(02:07:41):
knew when you were in your secondor third year are doing it full time.
Twenty years from now you say Ididn't know squat my second or third
year. Yet right now, Ithink we get the best thing going because
we're lucky, fortunate, and alot of that has to do with the
people that enhance our show that wedon't even know personally that I feel like
we do. Perfect example, thetwo universities just know, guys that called
in they knew Moore give you aperspective, perspective yeah, yeah, yeah,
(02:08:05):
coming from people that are uh uhseason ticket holders and graduated from the
university you've been on campus, yourlife becomes more peaceful and gets better when
you quit worrying about is somebody gonnabe mad at you for your opinion?
If they're mad at you you losefriends over your opinion. It's not personal
or lose that's that's a them thing, ain't you think? Yeah, exactly
to me thing? So that Ithink that's what makes a good speak it
(02:08:28):
up, let it rip. It'sjust sports man. That is that big
a deal. Speaking of sports, the Astros return home. They got a
tough task ahead. The Orioles areon fire. How do they stop?
And let's discuss the next right hereon Sports Talk seven ninety talking to something
else is on fire, and that'sthe deals over at Classic Elite Buick at
GMC. It's the classic Elite revUp Summer sales event. It's going on
(02:08:48):
right now at all three classic elitedealerships, classically GMC, classically Chevy Sugarland
and classically Highway six. But today, this morning, we're talking about the
Buick at GMC location twenty twenty fourGmccerra Elevation two wheel drive, zero down,
four ninety nine per month lease, ten thousand miles per year, twenty
twenty four GMC Terrain sl E zerodown, two ninety nine month per lease,
(02:09:09):
ten thousand miles per year. Thetwenty twenty four Buick Encore GX zero
down two ninety nine for thirty ninemonths. And you know you hear that
sound on the background. That's asgood as the radio is ever gonna sound
really really your Sierra, My bad, your Sierra. No, that's that's
that's just good, good entertainment. That's just good sound system. When you're
cruising around in a GMC Terrain slE eight thousand dollars off to twenty twenty
(02:09:33):
four Yukonda Nali twelve thousand dollars offto twenty twenty three Sierra. All those
deals are right there off the KadieFreeway, just west of Highway six.
Classic Elite BUICKGMC dot com. Whenyou get a new vehicle from Classically Buick

two years of free maintenance. Getover to that dealership, get you one
of the deals during the classically revUp Summer Sales event from Classicallyite Buick GMC.
(02:09:54):
When he gets to the dealership, ask for Jeff, for Tiffany Sebastian,
Tell them that Brian Lima sent you. We are professional great. The
Jean Salisbury Show continues. Good forJake Bloss However, he's got to face
the Baltimore Orioles make nervous a littlebit, A little bit, a little
(02:10:16):
bit, you are, you're nervousfor him. I would have rather have
made his debut against the White Sox. Why did he listen? Sean?
They wont the Orioles won seventeen tofive yesterday against the Yankees. Well think
how much big Think how much biggerthe celebration is gonna be when he pulled
this one off, when he dominates, throws seven scoreless. Damned rights shuts
down Adley Ritchman, You damned rights, you're gonna get put some respect on
(02:10:37):
his name when he does. Oh, I'm already putting respect on his name.
You are, he's skipping triple A. You've put respect m all right.
That makes me happy. Orioles wontwo out of three against the Yankees,
two out of three against the Phillies, two out of three against the
Braves, and then they swept theRays. They are quite literally on fire.
That's an understatement of the year.Yep, I'm with you big time.
(02:11:00):
They've won ten ten out of theirlast three, six nine thirteen,
ten out of their last thirteen. It's not bad, you know. What
I mean, it's okay, they'reten and three. They're doing a pinch
as you say, wow, ordo I say that doing a pinch?
Right? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're they're pretty damn good.
(02:11:26):
Victor Kartini. Still no update onhim outside of he's got some issues
with a quad injury, getting imagingdone. Probably going for a second,
third, fourth opinion. As longas it's not discomfort, there's a chance
so thinning out the bench. Yeah, discomforts the bad thing. But yeah,
(02:11:48):
sore is okay, right, Iknow you feel me on that,
right, Yeah, sore left quad. Don't see discomfort in there though.
That was Tucker doing no clue youknow anything from him? Huh kt Let's
see Kyle Tucker. Well, wegot latest on him, not Kai Tucker.
(02:12:11):
Kyole still a bone bruise, right, contusion. Contusion, it's another
way of calling it a hematoma.Okay, do you believe me on that?
You want me to look it up? Do you believe me that a
hematoma is a bruise? Yeah?We went through this. Yeah, do
you remember? Yeah? Did you? Then? No? I didn't.
(02:12:33):
You thought it was full of itright now? It was something I forgot
what it was and then I lookedin your criptural hematoma or something like that,
was like, that's not what it'scalled. That's what it was.
It's a it's a bruise on thebrain, I believe. Yeah, but
you can it's just a hematoma.Looks like, hey man, you got
a hematoma. Sounds so much worse, does it it? If you say,
hey man, you gotta like yousaid, a five bruise. But
(02:12:54):
if all of a sudden somebody needsyou, like a Charlie horse Man,
what you got a huge hematoma onyour leg is so much so bad.
I mean you hear it. Ifyou don't know, you're like, oh
my gosh, it by dying dude, Brian, you got kicked in the
thigh. Did look at the hematoma? Sean? What does that mean?
(02:13:15):
Be okay? Yeah, dude, you're gonna be fie. I mean,
it's a bruise, that's a right, am. I right? But man,
you label it a hematoma. Youcould forget it here. It's oh
my gosh, the world's coming toit. It is, right, yep.
So yeah, no update on KyleTucker in his hematoma exactly. But
that's a bone hematoma. It mightbe a different name for it. What's
(02:13:37):
a soft tissue bruise? I thinkis a but may Maybe I'm wrong.
Maybe a hemotomas, maybe a hemotmas, like a curl route A curls,
the curls a curl, a hemotomas, a hemotomas, A hematoma. It's
a bruise. What do you spellhematoma? I think it's h E M
A T O M A. Yeah, that's it. Uh. A bone
hematoma is also known as a bruise. There you go. But seriously,
(02:14:01):
if somebody comes, hey, Igot some news for you. What happened,
man, here's your diagnosis? Tellme, doc, tell me you
got to bone hematoma? Yeah? How much log do I get to live?
Well? Yes? Right? It'slike, dude, you like who
whoa whoa woa settle and you sayit what that's you get hit by a
pitch and your left tricep diagnosed asleft tricep hematoma. Yeah, and it's
(02:14:24):
like, what you gotta cut myarm off? Yeah? If you did?
The doctor looks you're like you bruise. Yeah, there you go.
So that's how I want you torefer to it. Till he comes back.
We will no longer refer to itas a bone bruise. So bone
bruise, also known as a bonecontusion, can also be known as a
bone hematoma bone hematoma. Right,so we're no longer calling a contusion or
(02:14:48):
a bruise. Our reference to KyleTucker's shin is going to be bone hemotoma.
Yeah, okay, because apparently tome it doesn't. But a hemotoma
sounds worse than the other two, right, and it's kept him out a
while, and they say there's nobone damage. So just for our like,
okay, it's gotta be more seriousthan we think we're gonna call.
(02:15:09):
We're gonna label it a bone hematoma. Yeah, fair enough, it's fine.
See this is called CSI River Oaksor wherever uptown. Yeah, c
S Uptown. Okay, that's wherewe're gonna label it. There you go,
speaking of U Kyle Tucker. JoeyLiberfido said to be recalled today.
Sorry, let me try that again. Joey Loperfido is gonna be playing alongside
(02:15:35):
Josel Touve. You go, NowI have to get into character. For
me to get into character, Ihave to say jose Al Tove, right,
you had both hoose Al Touve yeah, so why Joey, But why
is it that I have to likelook at you just to remind you that,
yeah, you're not. It's likeI told you, Berman can't stay
raiders without saying right, right, and I gotta say lowberfido. Yeah you
(02:15:58):
don't. Just I can say lowperfido oper. I don't impersonate Todd Kallis
like you do. And that's agreat form of flat it is. He's
one of the best. Right. No, but but the way you say
you're not allowed to refer to lowperfedo's low perfeto. I can't do that
yet, right Yeah? So yeah, give it the program. I'm tired.
I'm tired. Learned from your mistakeshave to be recalled. What happened?
Tell me about Kyle Tucker's injury again? It's a bone hematoma. Okay,
(02:16:26):
now we're onto something sounds like itis, Brian, what happened to
you, dude? You got abig hematoma on your back? Am I
dying? Br Bruce? Damn it? Brad Bruce? Right? Uh speaking
of real quick, I know we'regetting ready to go to break but the
astros if they you know, theygot to put Jake cut not Jake Boss,
Yeah, Jake Boss on the fortyman roster. That means they're gonna
(02:16:50):
have to df A somebody again. They got DFA for their like twentieth player
this season. It seems like thenthey also have to put him the active
roster. That means they got totake an active player, put him down,
and then they got to alt anotherposition player down and put call low
perfedo. All these friggin' rules andmoves ud, I mean, isn't it
true? Trying to keep up withmoves and who you? Now? You
(02:17:11):
have the d f A guy.You can't move a guy and then you
got to replace the guy and sendanother guy down. It's nuts. Try
to follow it. I don't wantto. I don't either. What do
you got right here? I gotclassical elite Chevy Sugarlan. Where I'm gonna
follow you? What's that? Youknow? Where I'm gonna follow you?
Where to the GM Dealer of theYear thirteen years in a row? Who
is it? Uh? Classic eliteChevy team? Yeah? Okay, thirteen
(02:17:33):
years in a row. To me, that's a dynasty, right. It's
also utter domination. Fools, betterrecognize we don't have many fools in this
city, especially when it comes togetting over to Classic Elite Chevy Sugarland Classic
Elite Chevy Highway six. You canget all the information at Classic Elite Chevy

Sebastian. Pop on in there.Thirteen years in a row, they've dominated
GM Dealer of the Year together.Let's drive there for the Sean Salisbury Show
(02:19:24):
continued. You gotta get now. What do you guys think about the phrase
the word dicey. No, youdon't feel good about it, you don't
think you don't think the series looksdicey. No, uh uh. We
got three games or four three okay, and they're off again on Monday.
It's not dicey, no, it'slaborious. You're gonna have to labor through
(02:19:52):
it. No, what are youlooking you're looking for? It's competitive,
it's compelling, it's capricious, capricious, it's what's the word you're looking for.
I'm just looking up synonyms for diceyokay, fluck to wint man,
(02:20:13):
it really is fluctu win. Didyou say fluck to win? Then what?
Okay? So do you call diceydissy difficult? There you go whimsical,
nice, pretty whimsical series, incalculable. I think that's overboard on the
(02:20:37):
hard course, sketchy, no,no competsion, go competitive and perilous,
And I think it's actually a compellingseries? Is it? Because you're going
(02:20:58):
to test your team and they needit, and the Oils are playing great
baseball. You want to watch theyoung pitcher bloss get bloss right, get
out there and do his thing. But you also want to see how the
White Sox series if if you believein game to game momentum, how you
feel about that where I think everythingsense of urgency. You're playing against the
(02:21:18):
World Series caliber team who's playing likeit Baltimore. You have been banged up
and beat down. You're relying ona double a baseball player to come in
and pitch his ass off in yourhome building. You're back home. You
want to go dominate. You're playingagainst the team who's feeling it right now.
They got a good pitching staff. This is a good test Ree team.
If you walk out here and getswept, what is you're going to?
Okay? What will you be yourthoughts on the team if they get
(02:21:41):
hammered in this series? They getswept or beat down? Yeah, swept.
I don't care if it's three toone or seventeen to four. If
they get beat down, what willyou say about them in the series?
Into this series? You forking them? Man, it's getting to that point.
Okay, what if they sweep theseries? Then they will be two
(02:22:03):
games under five hundred? All right, are you feeling you're feeling? Are
they not arrived? No? Butit's getting better and better. See how
the point for me is, seehow delicate a three game series is?
Matter of fact, that's probably thebetter word than dicey. Yeah, delicate
because you could you can jump rightback into the fray with three wins.
(02:22:26):
Regardless of what Seattle does. You'regetting your your attacking five hundred first before
the division and you get closer, and it's got to be feel good if
you're running a rookie out there tonightand you go in and win two or
three, or win the series andsweep the series. Now you're thinking,
wait a minute, we just beatone of baseball's best teams who's playing great.
We got to start to feel goodabout this. Now our identities shift
(02:22:48):
and we were getting a better ideaof this is who we're supposed to be
as opposed to who we've been, which hasn't been. This sweep a really
an outstanding baseball team. So thisis a This is a delicate series because
you can shift on it. Itcould go both. If they get swept
in this series, that phone lineon Monday, it's going to be off.
(02:23:09):
People are gonna be going nuts.If they sweep the series. They
may be tread and lightly, butthey're going to start and how depending on
how the optics look in the series, they're going to be like, Okay,
that this is the turnaround we needed. If it's a tweener, we're
still going to be thinking, Okay, they played some decent base Well.
If it's a tweener, you knowwe're gonna say it's to who they've been
all year, right, some good, some bad, and some ugly,
(02:23:30):
some really good. And then thefifth one is like, Okay, what
side of the fence are they teeteringon to get the series win? Three
to two when it comes to whothey are, not the series win literally,
but the series win. Okay,we're leaning to the good side because
they want two out of three. So it is a delicate series because and
it can be a fragile series ifyou get your ass handed to you.
(02:23:50):
What's that due to your fragility?Moving forward? The Seattle Mariners are at
the Miami Marlins all weekend, andthe Kansas City Royals are at the Texas
Rangers. What the rest of thedivision. You should feel pretty good about
the Seattle Mayris after getting it handedto them in this previous series for them
to go into Miami and at leasttake care of their business on two of
the three, right, So,and then Kansas City is a really really
(02:24:13):
good team right now going into Texas. And now when you think about Kansas
City and Cleveland, these two teamshave played some I mean, listen with
Tito Levin, we didn't know Clevelandwas going to be this good there's no
way you thought this. There's fortysix and twenty So I'm saying, there's
no way you thought they'd be twentygames, over five hundred seventy plus games
(02:24:35):
in you just didn't. And theKansasity Royals, we just I mean,
what a difference. A couple,a couple of good pitchers and a Bobby
Witt junior and some energy. It'slike Baltimore, look at their energy with
all these young players, right, and mixed in with a couple of cag
veterans. So and you get goodpitching staff and add Corbin Burns in the
offseason. It is. This isa delicate, fragile series, and I
(02:24:58):
think it's a huge series for theastro psyche and for a fan base.
If you get your ass handed toyou did did, There's gonna be something
going to disappear on you. I'mjust telling you. And then the other
side, if you go and sweepit, you're gonna say we beat a
team that has a legitimate chance tobe in the World Series. Yeah,
and handled them mightily. And arookie started the series at home. Yeah,
you have a guy that didn't evenpitch a triple A starting tonight against
(02:25:20):
the Royals. Well going, youwant to go. Good for the kid,
but you're gonna find out how bigthose stones are tonight. Let's see
how good he is. Seven one, three, two, two five seven
ninety the start to James, James, how you feeling about the Orioles series?
You know, I'm feeling. Idon't know how I'm feeling. I
wanted to ask you. So lastyear they went into Baltimore and it was
later in the year, and didn'twe win two out of three? Like
(02:25:41):
in August? You did? Yeah, you went in and you beat a
really good Oriols team last year twoout of three. Yeah, it's exactly
right. And we and we hittheir closer two games in a row when
they had the lead too, right, Yeah, And I remember that kind
of like we were we were kindof like hanging out in purgatory and that
kind of being like, wow, this is a legitimate team, the same
the same purgatory they're in right now, right, I mean not as I
(02:26:03):
mean the purgatory was a little betterlast year, but with trying to get
the five hundred in Chase, andthis team's been in purgatory for a minute,
not knowing who they are right,Yeah, And I remember when they
won that series, I thought manythey actually like I think that these guys
have won for so long that there'sjust like another gear that they can go
(02:26:24):
to and they expect to win, right. And I think that's why you
saw I'll too ve get upset theother night, because I think it's starting
to wear on them where it's atand they know that time is fleeting,
and so I think this series isgoing to be say a lot about who
they are as a team and howthey come together and you know what the
(02:26:45):
rest of the year is going tohold. But I remember being in the
situation last year and they surprised mewhen they hit their closer and they won
that series because Baltimore was this new, hot young team you know that was
like Astros of twenty nineteen, twentyeighteen, that it's going to take over
the l and uh, the actresshad to remind him who daddy was.
(02:27:05):
Still they get another chance to doit this weekend. Appreciated, James,
have a good weekend. Yeah,I just uh, I think this is
a Is it a monumental task tobeat the Baltimore's two out of three this
weekend? No, it's not monumental, and it's not too big a hill
to climb, but it is ait is a Put it this way.
(02:27:31):
If you're a hiker and you haveit's a it's a midsummer hike and heat
that you haven't got enough hydration andyou better take an extra bottle of water.
That's the hike. That's a you'renot climbing Mount Everest, but you're
climbing Pinnacle Peak. Dog. Soyou got Bloss tonight, Blanco tomorrow,
Valdez on Sunday. Blanco has beenyour best pitcher all season long, most
consistent, who knows what you're gonnaget from fromber Well and who knows what
(02:27:54):
you're gonna get tonight. So tome, I think it might be a
little bit of a monumental task. No, no win to out a three.
If you said sweep it monumental,if you said win it Pinnacle Peak
for those of you been to Arizona, Yeah, it's gonna be tough either
way, there is no question. But if you can't go out there with
your ace who's been your ace thisyear, and then turn around and get
a guy who is supposed to beyour ace and the guy you ran out
(02:28:16):
there to start the season in fromber. Then then you're you're you're ass maybe
sucking buttermilk? Anyway, do youdo you suck buttermilk? See if you
see what that phrase says. Seewhat it says if you're asked to sucking
buttermilk. Just put it in quotesin the Google machine and see how that
comes out. Not not not inthe not in not in what your what's
(02:28:39):
your gospel? Yeah, don't putit in the gospel? Does it mean
your s O L? Basically yeah, that's basically go to meets. Yeah,
it's a phrase. Quote by right, it's a it's a phrase,
isn't it? Man? Your sO L? If you if you go
in there and get you know, let's go. If your best best players
can't take care their business and pitchingstaff, you're running two guys out there
(02:29:03):
that you you'd like to trust.Rone's been great, Blanco has and you'd
think that from bert As your raceis supposed to pitch like one and it's
a good time. So I wentto the gospel, you know, I
went to one. Now no one. Right now I'm at uh the one.
Now I'm at Urban Dictionary. Yourass sucks buttermilk as a phrase that
(02:29:24):
said it's in events of disbelief, using the same context as BS can't say
it obviously or no way, solI can't believe this happened, right,
you want me to use it ina sentence? No? Ray, Hey,
Roger, guess what happened this morningat the coffee shop? Roger?
What? Ray says? Apparently John'swife found out he was cheating on her
(02:29:45):
ass and drove her car through thewall this morning while we were sitting in
there drinking coffee. Roger says, your ass is sucking buttermilk. There you
go to there you go? Ohman, his ass again. Damn it,
John, his ass is gonna besucking buttermilk after that, Rodge,
do there you go? See alldid. All I'm doing is teaching you.
I'm just mentoring you. Oh man. They're down, they're they're they're
(02:30:09):
fifteen games out of first place bythe All Star break. They're ash sucking
butter Damn right they are. Butif we don't want them, that's exactly
right. We want to go takecare of your businesses. Series. We're
gonna do something that's gonna get thema series win. You ready for it?
Don't go anywhere. Yea, yeah, don't go anywhere. We're gonna
We're gonna will the Astros to aseries win. That's next on sport Stock

(02:31:58):
while I'm leaving the study of ninefifty three, you did it, Yes,
wait a room that song and itwas just yes, thank you for
letting me hear myself, and youcome up with this trash ass song right
aft turn up, Yes, Yes, yes, every time, bro,
(02:32:24):
Yes, fine lovey song. John, I'm sorry, seat man. If
I know that cut before this,if I was a sniper, I would
take this song in. Whoever sangit right out? That's a fam Oh
yeah, come alive. Origin whatyes, yes, this song sucks.
(02:32:52):
Dude, Ah, this song ishorrible. You just assured they're getting swept.
Fact I might have might have justdone that if you would have stayed
with I want to thank you forletting me. Uh yeah again Yeah guess
what? Uh huh they swept theOriole. So you're blaming it on go
(02:33:15):
go astros A or on me onyou? It's fine because you you know
what you are. You were I'mhere complicit. That's okay because you know

there at this time. It's likeHawaii. Yeah, afternoon shower and then
go never Hawaii. Yeah, youcan get rained. Well it's like Houston.
(02:34:00):
Yeah, let's take one call tofinish out the show. Brad,
what's up? I was wondering,You know, I don't know a lot
about salas are as a catcher, but he seems to be pretty good.
And now that the backup got hurt, why can't we just put Diaz on
(02:34:24):
first base and Salazar starting a catcherand let's see how that works out.
That way, they wouldn't have togo out on the market and get another
twenty million dollar player that could, you know what I mean, cost the
money and be worth it, becauseDiaz has been mentioned as the first basement
(02:34:46):
and and it'll take all that defensiveuh you know, I mean he'll probably
wear down, and that's what hurtshis batting. I would think you get
a fresh guy like Diaz to justworry about hitting and play first base,
and then Salazar seems to be apretty good catcher. I don't know a
lot. I saw that one game, and I know he's been it in
(02:35:09):
the system, but I'm sure Idon't think it get hurt to try.
We got we gotta run. BradPeace appreciate it. He's he's not.
Salazar is not gonna catch and he'sin. Diaz is not gonna play first
base. Marian will be over there, Singleton will be over there. Low
Berfito is gonna come back up.I'm sure he'll play a little run there
too. Yeah, Brad, you'reright though. Everybody scrambled around trying to
get massive production from the first baseposition that we haven't had all year.
(02:35:33):
It's a black hole over there asof right now. I gotta get it
figured out. Ye have a greattrip, Yes, great, good,
appreciate. I'm gonna miss you guys. You'll hold down the fourth though,
Sure you are. I am.We're gon. We're going to chasing Natty.
See you next Friday. Yeah,we'll be back, hopefully bringing back
(02:35:56):
a big, big ass national championshiptrophy. If not, if not,
you know what we'll get after it. Look, hey, what are you
gonna do? Just you know what? Tee it up again, exactly what
I try to do. Just keepon, just keep on keeping on.
