(00:04):
Okay, let's do this. SewanSalisbury, The usc Truth, longtime friend,
Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima, goLobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury
Show. Good morning. While you'reat you want to hit that peacock thing
(00:25):
there and get that British Open onthat TV. This tournament sucks. I'm
not gonna lie to you. Whyyou say that the course sucks the weather
sucks. First off, the coursedoesn't suck. It's Royal Truon one of
the greatest golf courses in the world, average at best. The hell out
of here? Why am I catchingstrays walk in? That's what I want
to know. You got to talkto some of the callers about that.
(00:46):
Oh really, I didn't even hearthe callers when uh, when they're talking
about, you know, your loadmanagement. I mean comparing you to Kawhi
Leonard and stuff. That's that's cold, man, Yes it is. I
don't know what that came from,but I don't know who. I have
no idea. I wonder who didthat. I wanted who would start that?
How could you say? First off? And well? First off,
(01:07):
simple question, why are you lookingfor it? No? We didn't win
a chip? Okay, Well, then then, uh, we don't even
need to talk about it. Youknow, we don't know wood bat hitting
bitches. I agree, I'm justkidding. Good to have you back in.
And by the way, it's calledthe Open, okay. And secondly,
yeah, yes, I said theOpen. Yeah, but the British
(01:30):
Open. It should be the BritishOpen, right. Well for some of
the refer the British Open, youknow people those of us in the industry
refer to it as the Open.Golfers do. Here's an interesting question,
it's not really interesting. How inthe world can you say that that golf
course sucks? It's not very good, it's not very good. No,
I mean, look at that. How stupid that is? You mean because
(01:51):
you wouldn't be able to find yourball on any shot and that's flat lies.
I would not, in neither wouldI. Dude, Shane Lowry's minus
seven, he's just shaking hands withthe flagstick dog. That's that's so.
That right on the coast and oneof the great golf courses in the world.
It's so who says it's the best, one of the best in the
world. Why don't you google topone hundred courses and see if Royal Troon's
(02:12):
on there. The Royal Truon isRoyal Truon one of the top courses in
the world. Comes Royal Truon, one of the best golf courses in the
world, in the world, andthen comes see me how you feel about
that? Okay, they're playing onsome dog track. It's actually not even
in the top one hundred, tobe honest with you, it's one of
(02:32):
the best quotes within it's on onwhat list, Golf Digest, golf dot
Com. Okay, well, Golfdi just they're playing there for a reason.
It's in the rota is what Icall it, the rotation the roto.
Yeah. So for you to saythat golf course sucks, yeah,
Royal Truon ranks one hundred and ten. Okay, so there's about eight billion
(02:57):
courses in the world, give ortake ten. So this this course sucks.
I look at that right along theocean and you're going along the coast,
and it's like, ok it's atrip. Would you go No,
I would not. You wouldn't gofor a week golf trip. No,
probably not with your buddies. Nowwhat does suck is at this time you
got to wear like winter rain coatsand jackets and maybe maybe that's what bothers
(03:22):
me about this tournament. But it'sthe Open. It's it's for the most
part every year. Why can't wejust call it the British Open? Why
is it called I guess because thegolf started there in that a not far
frestick and you know, it's it'sjust called like I guess. It's like
a doctor, you don't call himJoe. If he's doctor Joe something,
he's earned the right to be calleddoctor. It's everybody in golf calls it
(03:44):
the Open. I know, thisis the US Open, and then you
think, well, do they callours the Open? No, they call
it the US Open because we're didgolf start not far from this golf course
here? So back to it.Yeah, maybe the wind and people wearing
sweater vests and winter coats and dealingwith you know, rain and the winds
blowing sideways. But it's one ofthe ultimate challenges in golf. Dude.
(04:04):
There's been times this golf tournament hasbeen one and I don't think people have
been under par. I mean, you see, if you'd hit it off
course, you got no shot. There's I mean, on the was it
the eighth hole. Now that's thepostage stamp hole, which is one hundred
and twenty three yards, small greenobviously, and even the pros have trouble
birdie and they can't hit it.But you're sitting there on the fairway and
(04:26):
one if I can't remember what holeit is, but the train's going by,
bag Go on his way to Glasgow, just constantly running and you're in
your back swinging a dog and runsright by, and you got to be
able to deal with it. Yeah, exactly. I mean, like,
who wants to play golf like that? Well apparently apparently the British Open rotation
does. Let's see. So ifyou're the one hundred and tenth best golf
course in the world, they're notgonna be much lower. And that some
(04:47):
may have him in the top onehundred. The golf course sucks or the
weather sucks, you want to gothere? Have about it, and you
damn well know if ten of yourbuddies wanted to go play, you'd go
play. Let's see if I canfind World trun in the top one hundred
of Golf Digest, it's royal trenddog. Let's see. You would this
conversation you would have thought that youbuilt the damn thing. Damn rights,
(05:08):
your damn rights. It's called respectingthe game. I respect the game.
Did you guys pick anything? Didyou guys pick any winners yesterday? Nope?
Unbelievable, he didn't. I meanI go out of town for like
three days and now you know, three days a week? You mean for
like two months straight? I wasgone, I was going four days,
came back for about two days, and gone again for a five Well,
(05:29):
look, we had a hurc Iworked through a hurricane on five days.
You didn't work next Friday, Friday, Saturday, Friday, Thursday. Five
days. I mean, but who'scounting? Yeah, who is count But
who's counting? You know what?Wouldn't you rather have a partner that's actually
counting your days gone to? Youknow? Okay, when are you coming
back? When you're coming back apartner who's just a complete prick? Yeah,
and at what point, like Ikind of cover both a complete prick
(05:51):
and I do care? I wouldsay complete prick. So well, yeah,
a tweener, tweet or prick.I'm not finding royal truon on the
top one hundred, man, youknow what, Okay, that's wrong.
One ten, my bad. Nowlook now look up this golf course.
Let me see. Uh you gotSouth Cape Owners Club, South Korea.
(06:13):
Yeah, I look up this golfcourse and tell you. If it's not
in the top fifteen, then I'llwalk. Then I'll walk to Royal Trend
Okay, okay, Bally Bunyon,Bunyon Valley Bunyon like that Bunyon you have
on your toes when you're you know, you're like, I got some Bunions
up there. Royal Liverpool's uh numbersixty three? Yeah, Bally b a
l l Y Bunyan, Prestwick,Presswick, that's where golf started. Bamf
(06:38):
You ever been to bamp at Van, Canada? Yeah right, I've not
played there, but and I've notbeen to baff. I've been to all
over Canada as you know. Right. Yeah, that's why I ask.
Can you look at Royal Bally RoyalAberdeen, Yeah, that's number fifty six,
But could you put look up BallyBunyon. Does that sound like it's
spelled like Royal Aberdeen? About CastleStewart Golf Links that's in Scotland. Oh
(07:02):
my gosh, I'm just a goodthing. We didn't have any sports last
night, so we can talk aboutthis stuff. It's the open, dude.
Shane Lowry Stone balls at the pen. He doesn't care. This is
his This is his gig though.Man hitting Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club,
number forty five, hitting low ball, little draws into the wind, throwing
it in there. Can you lookup Bally Bunyon. I'm okay, no,
(07:26):
don't, okay, look in thetop ten. All right, I
am. Hold on, look atthe top ten. You're gonna see.
I'm appreciating. I'm appreciating these golfcourses right now. Top Saint George's Golf
Club that's in Canada as well, number thirty eight. Great, we're not
in Canada. Well, okay, this is we're not either, okay,
and you're right, but we areon that side of the pond, dude.
These are like hit no, andthat's Trump International that's in Aberdeen.
(07:46):
That's number thirty four. Let's see, man, dude, and you've got
I mean, only you would haveRoyal Troon overrated. Okay, there it
is. Royal comes in at numbertwenty eight. Oh louder Oh, but
they're not the top hundred. Huhtrack No, no, no, so
this is these are the rankings inEurope, like in not the United States.
(08:11):
Okay, outside of the US sideof the US they are number twenty
eight. Well they regardless. Didyou look at bally Bunyon not or if
you just forget, just decided younext time? Do you spell it again?
B A L L Y bally BunyonYeah, b u oh there it
is. It's in Carry Island,Carry Island, Ireland. What's the ranking,
Well, let's see top ten,top fifteen. Yeah, it's up
(08:33):
there. One of my best friendshere, it got gid. They go
on a two weeks trip, getinvited every year in August and I haven't
gone yet. I have not goneyet. So to what point is that
they're members and they live here, and how stupid am I for not going
and taking vacation to go play twostraight weeks? They play like thirty six
a day at about eight six oreight different courses. They're members at bally
Bunyon, and it's like, Igotta go. Whenever you get a chance
(08:56):
to play a top ten course, you don't fourth globally, there you go.
Nothing gets in the way when youget a chance to do that.
You know, it's like somebody calledyou up and invite you. Now,
God, that's a nice course. So is Royal Turn. Now you would
see if you were looking at this, if you got Scottsdale weather like in
the spring, you'd be like, yeah, you're like, I'm gonna go
(09:16):
live. That's awesome, right. The problem is, look at that.
Trying to find a flat lie isjust like but those look at it there
the damn train. That's what I'msaying. I'm going to train in my
back. Lowry's on what's what's oneleven? Twelve? He's on eight?
On eight? Okay, so thatis he's on nine. If he's already
played eight when they have this thingup there, he's playing number nine.
(09:39):
He's he's through eight, So that'snumber nine where the the train is rolling
through, I guess. But yeah, it's Valley Bunyon. See I need
to go on that one. Butthese course over here, I'd never played
on the other side of the pond. I think it'd be freaking awesome.
But on a day when you're notin their winter where they're wearing the winds
blowing sideways by game, Yeah, that's that's like a punch to the face.
Because your game is not good inenough to handle. You know,
(10:01):
you'd be shooting, might be shootone hundred and ten on a course like
this and wouldn't be sure as hell, wouldn't be from the back teas.
And what do we got going onglobally? You were talking about global courses?
Global it is down. What dowe got going on here in the
world? I don't know what?Got a cyber deal again? Yeah,
apparently don't get on a plane today. Don't do any of that. Global
cyber outedge, cybersecurity platform, CrowdStrikeis down world? Why causing good it
(10:26):
problems? Microsoft down nine one oneoutages across several US states and then disruption
international airlines. All right, Icome back, and this is what we
got to deal with. Are westill there? I mean, what are
we doing? How do we nothave anti cyber attack stuff? Huge global
it affecting banks, travel, supermarkets, and media, payment transactions, telecommunications.
(10:48):
Huh just what you like to hearbank transactions? Oh awesome? That
a way to wake up on yourFriday. Yeah, hey, you're supposed
to get test day. No,you didn't get paid to day. Some
dude sitting in China took it.Hey, some Russian hacker just took it
because he wants your money. Great. Mm, we'll see my email is
(11:11):
still working, so that's good.Yeah, there we go, dud,
dude, put your soul security numberdown there, your bank account. There's
a Nigerian prince who's offering you ahundred million dollars if you just give me
your account and your routing number andhe'll send it to you. He'll be
in there by noon today and he'llsay, trust me, promise it's not
and then then we've got to warnyou. This is real. I was
I was given a hundred million dollarsfrom the King of Nigeria and he wants
(11:35):
to share it with you. Soif you could give me your your your
routing number and your bank information,we'll share it with you. We'll just
put we'll put in your bank accounttoday by the end of the day.
Brian, come here. You've gotthat message before from the Nigerian prince,
haven't you. Mine was actually theSauty Prince. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
(11:56):
he's got money to He gave mea real probably invited you to play
on the live to it as well. Yeah. The pitch that he gave
me was great. You almost boughtin. Huh. Yeah, really didn't
give me ten million just because helikes me. That's always the best,
man, those are the best calls. Let's go. I appreciate them calling
from all the way over in Saudi. I mean it's amazing. I can't
remember giving him my email at meeither. I don't even know how they
(12:18):
got my phone number, which tellsme it sells me it's secure and that
they probably really do want to giveme one hundred their dollars. Yeah,
I guy, get it. Yeah, I can't wait. That transaction never
worked though, it never came through. Really. Yeah, and you wonder
why you went home and your wholeplace was stolen and gone. Everything's out
of there. Speaking of that's actuallyuh the movie Beekeeper, seeing it like
(12:39):
I watched it. I watched iton my flight to Alabama. What a
phenomenal movie. I told you theday of the week it came, I
said, you gotta go see it. You gotta go see it, you
gotta go see it, gotta gosee it. You're late to the party.
We're already at twister. I mean, yeah, we're already, we're
already head of you, dog.But you're usually watched what Twister. When
it comes to movies, you're usuallyabout twenty fifth teen twenty years behind pretty
(13:01):
much. I'm actually actually and youlike Statham. I love for a great
movie. Phenomenal, it's fantastic. There's very few movies he's in, honestly,
at least that aren't good. Yeah, it's where he mean, he
may not be the best actor. He's kicking aspect. He's good. He
entertains me every time he's in it, because you know, somebody's bones getting
broken. He's gonna open up acan. He is gonna open up a
can. It was fantastic, though, be keeper. If you haven't seen
it, see it. And what'sDenzel getting ready to do? He's the
(13:24):
he is in. Uh, he'sgonna be in the what is it?
Gladiator? Too? Oh yeah?Do you watch the trailer yet? It's
gonna be phenomenal. Did you watchthe trailer? I have not, as
you told me to. Yeah Idid. Yeah. Oh man, it'll
it'll it'll lock you in for sure. Ye. Uh. Let's see anything
going on Astros related? Uh yeah, I mean you know, Luis Carcia
is not gonna pitch No anytime soon, set Back, All Star Break not
(13:50):
pitching anytime soon. You won't seehim before September either. I don't think
you're gonna see him at all.I think last time we had a neck
injury a pitcher, we didn't seehim again. So let's hope Verlander.
Yeah, that's not something serious.I saw that. Kyle Tucker. No
timetable for him to return yet.I have no idea. There are a
game out and they're about to takeon the Mariners tight. How are they?
(14:11):
Which is a tribute to the playersand the way they're getting this thing
going and Joe spot in the group, but I can tell you can they
can they withstand this the second halfdoing what they're doing innings and Blanco doing
his thing, just continuing to grindand get this without your best, your
five tool player in right field. All these injuries on the pitching stuff setbacks
again. Garcia mccullor's it's now itlooks like you're not going to see either
(14:33):
one of them. Yeah, atleast it's the way I feel. Yeah,
that's the way I feel, Andwhich also leads me to this.
If you think you're a world ifyou think you're a player away from the
World Series, a pitcher, ifyou think you're that close you're gonna make
you're a playoff team right now thatyou're a world series team with one big
deal. Remember how they said, well maybe there's no frontline guy to go
get. Now do you have toNow? Do you change? Do you
(14:54):
shift the narratives since you're not gonnahave Garcia, we still don't know when
Verlander's coming back. Or do youjust say we're roll with what we got
and if we make it great, this is a whole past season. What
do you do? Yeah, dude, I know we got to go to
break but man, live, Ijust I don't know, man, And
let me reiterate. Kyle Shuck,Kyle Shucker, Kyle Tucker shin. That's
(15:16):
not a Bruce. No, it'snot. That is not a Bruce.
No, it's not. And ifyou think it's a Bruce, I got
some property I want to sell youroyal true. I was to say,
is that true? Yeah? Ylove big truth. There's a membership in
ten million dollars from the Nigerian Frintzwaiting forty two. That's Saudi Prince wants
to give you money as well.Absolutely a lot to get into this morning.
We got tons of astros to getto Luis Garcia. What's the latest
(15:37):
on him? Kyle Tucker justin Verlanders. Sean alluded to also the Texans training
camp c J Scherul talking about beinga target this season and some adjustment he
needs to make. But we're gonnatalk astros. Can they survive with everything
else? As the second half ofthe season starts tonight, We'll discuss an
next on Sports Stark seven ninety.Hello haters from LA to New York,
(15:58):
Conker and kiss our ass astros.Oh my goodness, this is Sports Talk
seven ninety Home of your Astros, still twenty seventeen cheps, no doubt about
it. Sean Salisbury. Show continuesright now. You're about to have a
(16:22):
cal Ripkin like run. We sentyou to Hoover, Alabama. Yeah,
for your We designated you for alittle miner league assignment. Yeah, you're
back, but we you know whatthis is in my hand? What's that
a word? Clicker? Oh?Yeah? Yeah? We got what sixteen
segments of the show, yes, four hours an hour, So I'm assuming
(16:47):
that's a lot of workload for you. No, you're in the thirties,
dude, it's we might have toknow. I here's what we're gonna do.
I listened every day, did Iknow? And I know you're first
of all. We got we mighthave to radio app we might have to
shut you down, wet shut you. We need you. I got it.
I got next horns. Well thatmeans you're so. Next horn is
(17:07):
so you need ankle surgery? Nexttorn the next thing, you know,
I'm gonna have Tommy John. Yeah, but it's it's a weird. Hey,
what's wrong with your neck? Idon't know, but I gotta have
Tommy John. But what's wrong withyour neck? You're not gonna believe it?
Man? I got planner fascy itemsright, where did that come from?
I guess my neck? I don'tknow. You know, one with
the one nerves connected to the neck, the operator operation? Right? That
that fun game playing up? Imean when you're growing up. So put
(17:32):
you on a on a little pitchcount I don't We don't want you to
tire. We need you down astretch. Yeah. Uh, we have
three or four man rotation, okay, not a six mat. I don't
know how you get into a sixman when you can't fight a fifth.
But hey, needless to say whenit comes to the pitching you. Uh,
you say you're not on pitch count. No I'm not. You're not
(17:53):
on a segment count. No,I just had me a nice little minor
league read a lot of strays youraway this past week. Some caller yesterday
was, I didn't hear the callers. I just heard you and Ross yesterday,
what I hear the callers? WheneverI said don't, I could you?
I said, oh he's I said, go ahead, throw straight.
He's listening. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I said yesterday, like
straight straight straight a Thursday, dude, the eight o'clock hour was it was
(18:15):
like just just just sling them.Yes, oh yeah, you're getting ready
for batting practice or wherever you're atsmoked yeah, and even collars and said,
hey, man, uh, Imean they're they're calling you. I
mean, would you rather be calleda person needs load management or a flopper?
Neither disrespectful? That's very disrespectful, exactly. Yeah. I mean you
(18:37):
could be Monogen Nobly and Lebron oryou could be Kawhi Leonard and Kawhi Leonard.
Okay, that's that's just the bad, too bad choice, that's really
why. But just to be calledeither, it's like being called soft or
a coward. So do I getthe same beverage? Do I get the
same coverage as Brownie James is getting? You would have thought he was the
second coming to Jesus. But here'sthe deal. Yours isn't You've earned?
(19:00):
You've earned, You've earned. Ifpeople are talking, that means that they
like he Yeah, well, Ilike the kid. His dad's made it
difficult on him to be treated withoutus getting on and because of the nepotism
and his dad saying he's one ofthe best, he's better than eighty percent
of player in the league or whatever. ESPN posted a highlight of him last
night hitting a step back three, like the most basic move in the NBA,
(19:22):
and now he's the was like, yeah, oh yeah, so he's
made like three threes in all ofhis games. So Red Shepherd would treat
him. Yeah. I mean, and you know what, it's not fair.
I feel bad for Bronnie James whenthey say, well, we're being
unfair. Well, the pub,Well, here's the problem. His father.
His father's greatness has created it.That's just part of it. When
you grow up and you get thesame DNA. Yeah, he may not
(19:45):
have the same on court DNA ashis old man. We know that,
but you grow up in the family. That's it. And then when dad
adds to it and tells me he'sbetter than eighty percent of the guys in
the league or whatever it is,it starts talking. And you know that
he got drafted for a reason, all those things coming to play. Of
course he's going to face criticism. He's out above it and won't say is
he too young? Guess what's donenow. I remember when I was doing
college football, like my buddy MarkMalone and I were doing games together when
(20:07):
I was doing college football on thebooth right while I was doing the NFL
stuff. But we did a collegegame every week, and I can remember
going into it and you talk about, Okay, how do I approach this
when this eighteen year old kid jumpsoff sides and there's a part of you
that says, man, family's athome watch and this is we're not talking
nil and all that. The portalwasn't going crazy, just kids on scholarship
(20:29):
trying to play football and do it. So while you've got to be fair
and critical and complimentary, you're notgoing to go on like you hear somebody
go all in and just go allham on somebody right in the NFL or
in the NBA, a guy doesn'tplay defense, how many times you're this
guy get him out right? Soyou're very cognizant. I was cognizant of
his mom and dad, whoever theplayer might be sitting at home, knowing
(20:52):
that the kid's eighteen, he's afreshman. He made a mistake, right,
you do it now? You makethree in a really jump off sides
three times in a row. Thisis one thing. But you don't have
to bury the kid, right,So you think about that. But now
here's the deal, dude. Theyhave to be treated like NFL and pros,
now, can't. I mean,with respect. You're not going to
make it personal. But the criticismon college players is going to be harsher.
(21:14):
Oh yeah, because if you're aquarterback and you're making fifteen million in
NIL and you throw three picks ina game, in a big game,
you don't get the luxury anymore ofus saying he's just a nineteen year old
kid. He's a nineteen year oldkid that makes more than mom and dad
sitting in their living room at homeand when they went to that school.
That nineteen year old kid's parents andtheir first three questions said how much money
you paying my kid? So youno longer to get the luxury of broadcasters
(21:37):
sitting back and saying, we shouldnever make it personal on anybody. We
shouldn't be dogging. You know, people that are going through divorce all that
they listen. Some of it's personalnow if they want to make it public
then or it's a criminal thing likethe stuff that Trevor. But when people
talk about you got to talk aboutit right at least as far as what
you know and give your opinion. But when it comes to these games,
now, a freshman who's a quarterbackor a guard who gets beat three times,
(22:00):
but he's making four million bucks ayear because he was the number one
recruit in the country. Guess what'sGuess what now you don't get that.
You don't get that that that leewayanymore. You'll get the call pass that
gone, your damn right, itis gone. You don't get you don't
get just like an NBA player. Now, Bronnie James, he got paid
in college like most of these guysare, you know, in il and
now he's going to be a rookiein the NBA, And he said,
(22:21):
still, what is he still ateenager? You got to be nineteen years
old, right, all right,so if you're still going to be twenty
soon or whatever, he no longernow gets that luxury. Yeah, there
you go. So sorry, andit's a bummer. And guess what's coming
down the pike as we've already seenit and the rules of high school players
getting paid, So now it's freeto go off on them in a high
school game. I mean, we'vegot to have a little civility. It's
(22:45):
still sports, it's still life andself worth and self esteem. But Lebron
James doesn't get to his kid, doesn't get to be a me. You
can't. You can't Rob Peter andall of a sudden not pay Paul buddy,
because you're the one who brought thecriticism on. So if Lebron James
Son misses four jumpers in a row, criticism, Now he makes four three
points in a row, he deservesevery compliment he gets. But the guy's
just an average player. We gotI know, we keep saying it when
(23:07):
I say it, compared to theNBA guys, He's just a guy.
Maybe he turns into something special.I don't know, but make no mistake
about it. He ain't his dad, no guy, No, he sure
is, but he's not above criticismjust because he's nineteen and he's just a
kid. Yeah, nineteen years oldand they are covering him like he is
literally like he's Lebron and they willcontinue to do it. Yeah, like
(23:32):
when Lebron came in the league.Yeah, they will continue to Well,
we had a reason to cover thatguy, right, he was a grown
ass man when he was like,he was better than thirty year olds when
he was sixteen. Yeah, sowe'll see seven one, three, two
point two, five, seven nine. He got the phone lines opened up.
Let's talk some astros. How canthe Astros get to a six man
rotation with all the picture pitching injuries. Danna Brown, the general manager,
spoke about it yesterday. We'll discussthe next and Sports Talk seven ninety Factory
(23:57):
the Shawn Who Salvesbury Show continued. He done. I was thinking Oklahoma City.
No, he didn't get one here, he hasn't got he's never got
a title. That's the second timetwo guys guys been traded to the draft,
right, Yeah, and hasn't beenthere and won't be there for either
(24:17):
one of them. But I couldtell you this, Russell Westbrook smart,
with this signing with the Nuggets, you've got a chance to find to win
that rig. I could tell youthat. Now, obviously his best basketball
is behind him. But one thingI've always loved about Russ Westbrook, whether
he's you know, when he won, when he you know, averaged a
triple double and with m v Phe was fini. I mean, he's
been a phenomenal player, but Ican tell you not a great shooter.
(24:40):
When he recognizes his weakness and slashesto the basket mid rings jump shot guy.
Right. But I'm gonna tell youthis one thing you can never deny.
Just like when I used to watchAlan Iverson play toughest s ob on
the court and they played dude, they wanted to win so frigging I mean,
the Russ Westbrook plays hard, yes, always has, so all the
(25:02):
criticism we've all given him that youknow, wherever Russ Westbrook goes or James
Harden, they're not winning a title. That you know how you get that.
There's certain guys you say, ohthat's done, they're not winning a
title. But you cannot deny thatguy has played hard his whole friggin career,
hard even in All Star Games. You remember watching him in Astrogam.
That dude wanted to bury you inAll Star Games? He did, I
(25:25):
mean he wanted to go and buryyou and was pissed all the time.
And when watching you, guys didn'tget to see Iverson when you were young,
But in his prime, Iverson wastough and played I mean he played
hard, right. I think alot of that was John Thompson coaching him
at Georgetown, but a lot ofrespect for Russ Westbrook's ability to at least
you know, like I said,he may make some mistakes and get a
(25:45):
little you know, he's a littleuh out of hand at times with the
basketball. You know, he couldjust as quickly as he can dunk in
your face taking it down a lane. He would throw one eight feet into
the stands right or miss eight threeand he say, why are you still
shooting three pointers? Get to therim? Right? Yeah, But you
can never deny not only his skillset, but you cannot deny how hard
(26:06):
that guy's always played. And youknow what, this will be his best
chance to win an NBA title.I don't know how much he'll contribute doing
it. He'll you know, I'msure you limit his minutes, but it's
a nice addition for them if youget him in the right role. Yeah,
but trade it again. And it'sbeen a hell of a run.
What a gifted guy, but whata talent, But what a hard who
plays hard man. I like guyslike that, even if I know they're
(26:27):
not gonna put a ring on theirfinger. He may get one there though,
Yeah, hopefully. Yeah, nuggetsare going to be as long as
you got that big fellow and thatthat roster and that coach, they got
a chance. Yeah, definitely.Seven one three five seven Chris, Good
morning, tripley. Can you punchhim up? Please be? I can't
hear you, Chris, what's goingon? Good morning? Be Welcome back,
sir. You're back in the saddleman who takes off Monday to Thursday
(26:51):
and comes back on Friday. I'lltell you who it's. Uh, it's
the money, right. I mean, Sean missed you so much yesterday.
He was so sick that he hadto leave early and left it with Ross.
You know, I just uh loadmanage. Yeah, was he it
was either leave early, like thelast hour of the show, or blow
chow on Ross, which I didn'twant to do because he was he was
(27:11):
a warrior yesterday. And I tellyou know me, dude, I'll play
through the vid all of it.I'm sure I'm showing up to work,
but yes, I was so hurt. I just decided I threw up because
of you. It's well, I'mback, You're back. We all love
Sean. We all love Sean, but the show's just not the same.
The chemistry between you guys. Uh, there's nothing like it in the mornings
(27:33):
right now. And uh, definitelya big fany all. I mean,
I kind of it kind of remindsme of Michael Jordan. Right, he
wasn't He was good, but hewasn't great till Scottie came. So you're
like Scotty, I'll take that roleall day. So that means you're Michael
Jordan Sean, but just a basicwhite version, right, Yeah, without
the hops. Yeah he's yeah exactly. Let's hope the Astros get their bats
(27:59):
swing and know, Brian, youknow with the Rangers Saturday and Sunday was
horrible. I mean, we getbeat. Sean kept saying it. By
the Rangers who only got seven hitscombined in two games. I mean,
it's crazy. So I'm just hopingthe batch show up and back up the
pitching. The pitching hasn't been theproblem. So you guys have a great
(28:19):
way up weekend. And Brian,I know you don't want to talk about
yourself, but I got to ask, how'd your team do? Brother talk
to appreciate it, Chris, wedon't want to talk about it. We
ad trip. Are you are you? Are you on the hot seat?
No? No, not at all. No, No, we finished.
Could you be able to hot No? No. We finished the season sixty
four and twenty with two ties.Pretty good. Wreck So we played really
(28:42):
well this season. We didn't pitchlike we wanted to. A lot of
contributing factors. We didn't have bractefor two weeks because of the fourth of
July holiday. Obviously we had ahurricane. No excuses though. We needed
to throw strikes and we didn't doit. We lost in bracket place.
We got to the bracket, lostin the first round, second round,
something like that. First round,I think, yeah, first round exit.
(29:03):
So tough Man. One hundred andseventy five teams in this tournament is
what it is that too many teams? Four is too long? Fourteen year
old swinging wood bats as well.I mean, I get it, I
understand it, but saw it offhands. Yeah, good thing. It's
not wintertime. Yeah, you knowwhat I'm saying. He called us Michael
(29:23):
and Scottie Pippen, and you justdid you didn't even acknowledge. Well,
well, I said, you're MichaelJordan, but a basic white version.
Well you know what I've I've dunkedon plenty that I've dunked on plenty of
them, Chris, and you didn'thave hops, dude, no bunny on,
no one. Let me tell youwhat bunny meant. I know what
that means. I know what thatmeans. Okay, I'm well ahead of
(29:45):
the kids, just so Chris knows. And that's fair. It is the
Jordan and Pippin. I'll give himthat, saying, man, both Hall
of famers, Yeah they are.I will say about the hops. The
reason why I didn't say anything becausea sheep a lion doesn't answer the sheep.
I'm kidding. Here's the deal. And Chris is awesome. He's right.
(30:08):
The chemistry with us is great,is I will tell you this,
and Ross thank you and Dan Matthews. Yeah, absolutely great. We've got
great, great teammates and they couldsacrifices when they got their own stuff.
That random guy Bruce Matthews at alsoBruce Matthews for two hours he was He's
a great phenomenal guy and was apretty decent player. Yeah, he was.
Okay to Chris about with no hops. How many times I left nuts
(30:33):
on a guy's forehead in high school? I don't know. It's thirty seven
inches? Any good? No,I'm at hops? Yeah, not long
at hops? Okay, I went, yeah, Chris, Yeah, yeah,
take that charge. Okay, Iprobably would. I probably take take
a charge right now, no hopsnow and getting dunked on no hops,
(30:56):
no hops now, He's probably right, right, but just sheer old man
ability to get to the rim becauseKevin McHale, you're asked, now,
could you doe right now? Rightnow? Oh? Today? Like today
day? Yeah? Yeah, OhI don't know, Yeah I don't.
And now that I've got myself backdown to the closer to playing way,
have you ever got that ankle figuredout yet? It needs its needs fuse
(31:17):
together, and I haven't have neededit for two and a half years and
the doctor keeps saying, Sean, you need surgery because it's gonna get tougher
the longer you go. But Ihaven't done it, so probably not today.
Not today. You give me threemonths to work on it and get
back into jump in shape. Iprobably could, but if you're asking if
I could, then come on,dude, from from the friggin rafters.
You know what's funny? I wantto brag, but let me is uh
(31:40):
excuse me? On the on theShawn Salisbury Show Twitter page that h Tanya
runs, she posted that picture ofyou, uh yeah, you playing hoops
and there was like dudes that likedidn't believe that was you. I'm like,
what, what, Well, you'reright there? Yeah, well I
don't know, I don't know what. We can get Larry Brown on here
from UCL Digger Phelps and they cantell you Larry Brown like Larry Brown coach.
(32:05):
Oh okay, yeah, that LarryBrown and Digger Phelps. Man,
I haven't heard that name in awhile. He's still he's still. Look
how look if we just look atthe bragget do we're talking about Jordans and
pippin all in good fun. Chris, you're right, no Hops now Hops
then though, Yeah, it's greatto have everybody back, don't don't,
man what love crust? Well,I'm just saying, I'm just I'm just
actually even more. And why doyou don't respond to stuff? To do
(32:28):
it? What you look like? You mean you can't get a reaction out
of me when you say no Hops. Really bunnies Yeah, not snow bunny,
but no bunnies. Yeah, Iknow, I know it's the the
kids are saying. But if yougot bunnies to me, you're you you
still that's mid Hops. I wasabove mid Hops. I wasn't a twenty
two inch vertical leap guy. Okay, okay, all right, I mean
if you I could take you outside, nobody I do you do? Yeah?
(32:52):
Trip, you see him smiling overthere, you know he knows.
Yeah, but you know you gottahave somebody to see mad Hops or that.
That's when you really you're elevator likeVince Carter. Matt Hops, right,
like elevator, Yes, absolutely so, Anthony Edwards, Yeah, Matt
Matt Hops. John Morant, youknow we should start calling him as uh
(33:13):
uh, what's the flubber? Ohhe's got flubber. Remember the movie was
Rob Wis could jump up to gotflubber. So there you go. No,
I don't think right now because ofmy ankle and stuff. That's my
lead ankle that i'd push off thedunk. But I mean I guess with
a little work i'd get close. But yeah, it was not a problem.
Then we need to get you backout there. I could. I
(33:36):
mean, like I said at quarterback, I can still throw it, but
don't ask me to run RPO andget to the edge. Well, I'm
just saying, if you're you're feelinga little sluggish, I know where you
need to go. Well, you, why don't you tell us what I
mean. You've been off so manytimes you probably need to get Do I
need to? I need to?I'm actually could a brother get a T

dear least you at the least orwhat no, actually you know, let
me look at it. Uh.Twenty seven minutes ago, I started out
to go to homeowner's house and tomeet with the adjusters. And Uh,
(36:13):
I wanted to call about something. But now I've got about five other things
I want to hit on coming infrom out in the country. But uh,
now, welcome home, man,Glad you had a safe trip and
everything. You know, appreciate that. John, Oh, I'm not welcome.
So let's go back. People thatain't didn't hear about you know whichy'all
were talking about. It's the sixo'clock top of the hour was Now it
(36:35):
sounds like a radio ost. Youknow, astros are doing this without certain
players, right, so let's startprolling with it and don't freak out Houston.
Then why do we need to resignthem? You're doing it without listen,
Okay, go ahead, go aheaddoing it. You're doing it without
(37:00):
you know, being Tucker. Sowhy do we need to spend three hundred
million dollars? You're doing it?Obviously, we thought when we lost Correa,
let's be real, we lost Prayer. We thought we oh my god,
you know there was everybody had ahole in it. I know,
we had Tucker in the waiting.Everybody was pushing for their keen tuch were
(37:25):
we had him in the waiting. Then when we lost Korea, we thought
it was gone. We let welucked out with Jeremy. We we see,
I mean, sooner or later, our luck's gonna run out. But
I know we got sign one orthe other. Bragman or tuck Bragman,
I know is off and on again. You can't depend on it and everything.
(37:47):
But the glove over there. Youcannot argue about the glove. The
glove is the glove over there.I mean, he plays a hot corner.
But we have I'm not gonna butcherhis name. We got Joey in
the waiting, you know, Ijust I don't know. Man, we're
doing it without him. I knowit's better with him in the lineup.
(38:13):
People don't freak out, don't call, don't come in, idiot and all
that. But we just gotta youknow, you gotta look at the big
picture. Three hundred million or more. Great John, appreciate it. Let's
go let me, let me,let me, let me hit this real
quick. As far as his BrownieJames thing going, Let's also look at
(38:37):
it this way too. He bought. He has brought this grief on him
to hisself. He should have kepthis butt in school. It's gonna you
have his four frigging points in college. Okay, he didn't need the money.
He didn't need the money to lay. Yeah, he didn't need the
(38:57):
money. I get it. Hisdaddy's in his head to goad of cry
babies. Blah blah blah. Butyou know, hey, you know you
should have stayed at school, oryou should have transferred. You were getting
paid anyway. Your daddy forced youout. Your daddy in your ear,
didn't force him. Dad's in yourear. Come on, I want to
(39:19):
play with you. I want toplay with you. Will be the first
father and son. YadA, YadAYadA. Basketball another thing that I can
hang my ego on. But youknow, I think it's funny. I
think it's funny as hell. Ireally do. I don't think you'll ever
see the side of the Lakers courtappreciate it. John, We gotta get
to the top of the hour.Great stuff, John, Have a good
(39:39):
weekend. Brother. I'll tell youreal quick about Bronnie that I think it's
there's no doubt if Lebron wasn't hisdad, Lebron would have said take your
aspect to school, Lebron. Ithink this is more Lebron being selfish than
Bronni. He wants to say thatwe were the first of all time to
have father and son in the courtat the same time, and he will
be in the rotation when his dad'sthere here for nothing other reason, so
they can say they did it.Is when it comes to Kyle Tucker.
(40:02):
Oh, I think they still wantTucker and they're obviously better with him.
They're winning without him right now, which is a tribute to the team.
But it does make you wonder ifthey would be if there they won't be
if this success continues to happen withouthim, if it would say, well,
work the threshold of our money. We've proven we can win without him,
so we're not paying him three fifty. I do believe that kind of
(40:22):
stuff does have an impact, don'tyou. Yeah? I do now I
want him back. Yeah, Butevery time you keep winning without him and
he key and this goes on,it will affect Well, do we really
want to go that deep in?Because we can. We can maybe mix
it around and make it happen. We've seen it already, Springer corret I
mean, listen, hopefully he doesn'tface that, and we're still a ways
(40:43):
away from that happening. But truthof the matter is is that you make
it wonder is it diminishing what theywere their ceiling is with him money wise,
Yeah, And I think he's thebest all around player. They got
your Noon's their best hitter, right, That's just the way I feel.
Dana Brown, the general manager ofthe Astro, spoke on this show yesterday
talking about Kyle Tucker and the return. Also some Luis Garcia stuff. Let's
(41:05):
hear from the general managers. Let'shear those clips and discuss an axce on

You're gonna get the customer service allday, every day, all the time.
And they obviously have inventory, orthey wouldn't be giving to the deals
on the inventory. For instance, twenty twenty four customs Silverado, which I
drive thirty nine month, least tenthousand miles a year and at least,
(41:54):
I mean, what else do youwant? The deals go on and on,
as does the inventory. Tahos andSuburbans twenty twenty threes eight thousand dollars

(43:25):
Sean Salisbury to usc Truth, longtimefriend, Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima,
go Lobos. This is the SeanSalisbury Show. Sere for Nationals General manager
Dana Brown on Kyle Tucker. Stillno timetable. He gave us a little
(43:47):
more of an update yesterday. Hewas on the show yesterday Ross v Real
filling in and he talked about thetimetable. This is what General manager Danny
Brown had to say. No,not a clear timeline, but I would
say that you know, he's playingcatch and hitting in the cage. So
he's playing catch on the field, hitting in the indoor cage and outside he's
(44:10):
doing a little bit of light baseballactivity as far as baseball movements. So
he's getting there, not not feelingas much of the issue as before,
and so you know, hopefully wecan get him back here soon. We're
definitely gonna need him here for thestretch run on the second half. So
(44:30):
h he is making progress, okay, So he's making progress from a bone
bruise sean bone bruise, and there'sstill no clear timetable. I am fascinated
by this, not I mean Iam. I'm fascinating by it. And
I think that we all know that, and I think Dana knows that we
(44:52):
all know that this just isn't abone bruise. But it's not. It's
not an intentional they're not doing Yougot to you said it before. You
got to protect your play and whenthe narrative and an organization that's his number
one party and it should be right. But what you don't want to do
for me is we've talked about this, Brian, is get to a point
where we're setting your question in KyleTucker's toughness, because bone bruise would make
(45:14):
you question somebody's toughness being out pushingtwo months here. If we get to
August third. Do you understand whatI'm saying it would now? And I'm
not questioning as toughness, but Iguarantee you there's some out there that are
either rolling their eyes we know it'snot a bone bruise, or rolling their
eyes saying, come on, man, are we serious here? So you
(45:37):
get both. And Kyle Tucker's builttoo good, a well career and too
much respect for anybody to think that. So whatever it is, it's severe.
This isn't just a bud, Thisisn't just fighting through like day to
day. This is severe, andit is frustrating, and the fact that
there is no timetable for him ora couple other guys on the team it
(45:59):
is I'm going to tell you what, I've never seen a team that had
more guys on their way back andthen got shut down again on the planet
pictures, I mean mccullor's and Garciaand close and it what appears to be
day to day. Remember when joseor Keatie was supposed to just be out
for a little while and he's outfor the season. So yeah, it's
(46:19):
it's weird how that's hit this team. But yeah, I don't know what
to tell you about Kyle Tucker anymoreabout this. I get to tell you
this. I'm no doctor, butI don't know a doctor on the planet.
Say a two month bone bruise.I just think you protect your players.
But also I don't think there's anydoubt that there had to be something
far deeper than a bone bree Ifnot, it's the deepest bone bruise in
the history of the planet. Yeah, it's a break. Yeah, how
(46:43):
you can I don't know how youcan think others? So why why not
even just come out and say that. Maybe he doesn't want you to,
meaning maybe Tucker doesn't watch you to. Maybe the organization says this is just
the way we do things. Maybeit's Brian. I don't have the answer.
I don't have the answer. It'sweird, but it's weird. Yeah,
but I just you don't want toget to the point because I know
(47:04):
people are you see it on astrosTwitter? Oh yeah, a question will
come on. It can't be abruise or a bruise is keeping say you
you know all the stuff that peoplesay from their living rooms. We all
do, and I don't want tobe that guy that does it. But
come on, man, this isa June third bone Bruce. That's gonna
keep him out. Well, itwill be two muths because aren't we already
at the nineteenth If he's not doingbaseball stuff, he still has to go
(47:25):
to a minor league assignment. AugustThird's right around the corner. August third
is right around the court. That'llbe two months on a bone Bruce.
Yeah, June June third, lastlast time he played against so So I
don't know the answer. I knowthat it's it's they need him, even
though they've won some games and havehad a really good last twenty two to
twenty three games, but they're gonnaneed him, and everybody knows that a
(47:47):
big bat from the left side, because you know, I think Jordan's gonna
have a great second half of theseason. But it would sure help having
Kyle Tucker in there as well.I don't know, Ryan, I don't
know, like I said, unlessyou're around it all the time, sitting
around there, talking to those guysand getting a feel for it. But
I know this haven't been in organizationsbefore. Their first priority is to make
(48:08):
sure that the walls are thick enough. You get to protect the player from
whatever it is you need to protectthe player from And I do get it,
but I just don't understand why youjust don't let's call it like we
see it. Well, I wouldhave if an X ray or an MRI
tells me it's cracked at the beginningor it's more than a bruise, just
to alleviate all because every day we'resaying, if it's a Bruce, when's
(48:29):
he come back? Whence you comeback? Wouldn't that alleviate a bunch of
stress and a bunch on Kyle onthe astros and Dana Brown having to say
that because I don't know, dude, maybe I'm wrong, But wouldn't you
be willing to bet a lot ofmoney that this is not just a bruise?
Yeah, now give me one thousandbucks to bet on it? Right
now? What else would you beton? Would you bet a lot of
(48:50):
money on the fact that it's notthat you'd be hard pressed to say that
it's just a kink in the neckfor Justin Verlander. Yeah, it's something
worse. Yeah, I just I'mgetting to the point. I always like
to you err on the side ofcaution, but I always like to give,
and you give the benefit of doubt. I get it, but I
always like to think, Okay, tell me to take another week and get
(49:15):
that, and I try to yougive them the benefit out knowing not knowing
if you haven't walked in their shoeshow severe the injury is. I'm getting
to the point now anytime an astrogets hurt that it's going to be longer
than we can be worse. Yes, it's just not. I don't know
why, but now it's almost programmedus to say, oh, a week,
I'll see you in a month.Oh a month, I'll see you
it next year. But you can'thelp but think that now with all the
(49:37):
stuff that's gone on with I mean, the mccolors Garcia thing set back,
now we're thinking we're and would DanBrown saund the show to me? He
said, we're counting on them, right, both of them? Yes,
yes, I said, you're countingon both of them. Is it a
bonus or account of we're counting onthem? Well, think about this now,
(49:58):
your workhorses are gonna have to beHunter Brown, Spencer Arraghetti from Ravaldez,
and Rene Blanco. Yeah, oneof those guys was supposed to be
your workhorse at the beginning. Theother guy, Hunter Brown was supposed to
make more progress this year, beinga first full time full year start,
(50:19):
and at the beginning you're like,oh uh, he maybe go to the
bullpen. Now he looks like amonster. But Renew Blanco is and he's
real because you can't keep doing thisby being fake and just having a few
good starts. He's been their best. He's the MVP of the team.
If you're not tiring me, maybeal Tuve, maybe Jordan, But I
don't know how you can say that. Without Scott and without Blanco, you'd
be in the position you're in rightnow. You have to I think for
(50:40):
me, just of what he's donewith his pitching staff. It's Renel Blanco.
Whatever you're paying Blanco in Scott,it's not enough. No, it
is not enough based on performance andthe extra stress of knowing what they have
to do considering all the injuries.Yeah, and the way they started that's
double stress. Yeah, yeah,I don't I don't put it this way.
(51:00):
I'm already now looking at Verlander andKyle Tucker will be a bonus when
we get them back. God,it's crazy to think about it. And
I don't know when to start countingon them. But I'm going to tell
you the series starts tonight, andthis would be huge if they could steal
one, if they could steal twoof them, give me one at least.
Yeah, on the road, Yeah, no, no question. Let's
get to the steakout next here onthe Shawn Salisbury Show. Proudly broadcasting from
(51:24):
the most hated city in baseball,Houston rides with the Shawn Salisbury Show on
Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, Sean, what are you hearing out
there now? The Salisbury Steakout,Shelsbury takout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
(51:57):
Sign for the steak out here onthe Shawn Salisbury Show. And before you
stake it out? Yeah, ofcourse, Tom, Tom and Downtown.
Yeah, I don't know. I'veheard him call standing Gordion next up?
Did he did? He doesn't loveus anymore? I don't know. Tom,
Downtown, if you're listening, giveus a shout, man. I
thought we had a great relationship.I thought we did too. You know,
it's like that, it was twoway street. There was love us
to man talk golf talk to.Tom had a great passion. He called
(52:22):
in here just this pad match ourpassion. I mean it was awesome,
like you know what's going on?Man? First of all, I was
worried he was. Okay, nowyou told me you hear him on I've
heard him on next up? Yeah. Should we take it personal? I
kind of we should? Should welike, you know, put up the
Batman spotlight? So when get Tomback? Man? I don't know,
man, he was was It waslike a day he was like in the
(52:45):
team picture. Yeah yeah, Iknow. I know he loves golf and
he's up early because he loves sports. And this they ain't no way his
ass is sleeping through ten o'clock. No, if I'm not mistaken, he
was. He would always take hisdaughter to school. Yeah, call us.
You know, I don't know, man, All right, well Tom
calling tell us why you don't loveus anymore? Yeah? What we do
(53:06):
if Bryce said something stupid? Imean we do, yeah, which which
is which is probably never going tochange, So be patient with us.
Where the hell is Tommy at?Come on, Tom, figure it out?
Man? So they say, comeon, so on, son,
what happened? Yeah? I meanI don't know. Are you your feelings
hurt? Yeah? Actually they arebecause I before I went out of town.
(53:27):
I was listening to Standing Gordia onmy way home and I heard him
call in, and I was like, whoa, whoa, Tommy. Just
the fact that we're mentioned and wemiss him, should let him know that
we care about him. Yeah, hopefully he's listening. He was a daily
guypathetic sound. Why why is itme? I don't know you brought it?
There's another one? Yeah, man, Hey, we got some of
(53:47):
the regulars calling in. Look,we got Bill Roger and brainon on the
on the that's we don't have tobring him up because you're always around,
right, Yeah, when you misssomebody, you know, you know what
I mean? Who was? Hey? Who was the uh? What was
the the music that you guys wereupset you? Bill tweeted me last week
about him. Uh, let's talkto Bill real quickly. He'll remember,
Hey, Bill, who was theartist that you guys were all upset about
(54:12):
that? I didn't know last weekbefore I went out of town? Who
was every day? Yeah? Iforgot who it was. Oh it was
Ray Parker, Ray Parker Jr.Yeah, Ghostbusters. Oh that's right,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that'sright. Now. Okay, Hey,
thanks for showing up and filling infor Ross today. It was really good
of it. Okay, sometimes likesometimes you gotta work overtime. Bill,
(54:38):
I know you know what that's like. Hey, you've really you've done a
great You've done a great job ofearning minutes. Brian, thank you.
We're trying to get your rotation.Yeah, hang in there, buddy,
team player, brother, team player. Hey, you guys were talking about
the Astros and what they have done. I'm very curious now with this break
(54:58):
and then going right off the backgoing to Seattle. I mean, this
is this is a perfect setup tosee if I know, Sean, you
said, momentum is not gamed agame. You can have momentum inside of
the game, but not game togame. I think it's more than momentum
right now. Yeah for me,agreed, I'd like, I want I
want to see can they kind ofkeep this going now after the break,
(55:22):
when you when you stop and lookwhat they've done over the last four weeks
with the combination of various lego piecesthat they're putting together. People were banging
on insp you know, it's abouta couple of months ago. I think
the guy's on a hell of ajob kind of keeping this together. And
finding finding some sort of combinations thatwork here and win some ballgames. I
(55:45):
don't know if he's get enough credit. I don't know about you guys,
but hey, Bill, just asmuch as like anything when some you know,
when things aren't going well, peoplecriticize, But just the same the
one hundred and eighty degrees, whenit's going well, you got to give
credit work. Hey, he's justnot responsible for losses, okay, and
he was. Players are responsible toBut on the other side, if we're
going to criticize a guy when theylose, the compliment's got to come when
(56:08):
he makes good decisions and when youare one hundred percent correct. Joe spot
has done a hell of a jobthe last what has been twenty twenty five
games. Had probably did a betterjob than we gave credit for. Just
when you're losing, you know, the manager gets lumped into it and everything
looks like everybody's doing the wrong thing. So you're one hundred percent correct.
He's managed very, very well.It has gotten better at it, and
(56:28):
now there's some decisions you're gonna question, like why didn't they go to the
back endo of the Bullpens Sunday beforethe All Star game in the loss to
Texas. I get it, it'sone hundred and sixty two of them.
You're not going to make every decisionright or that we agree with. But
a Spot deserves credit for the thingshe's done well, just like people gave
him criticism for the things he wasn'tdoing that they wanted early on. No
doubt, you're right. Hey,you guys had yourself a great weekend.
(56:50):
And Brian, we'll listen to youon the air next Friday when you come
back. Yeah, four days off, no Ben, there you go.
Thanks Phil Roger, good morning,Good morning, sir. I just want
to talk about the Astros injury injuryreports. Every time somebody they bring out
an injury report, you gotta wearyour boots because they're gonna let the ps
(57:13):
really, really thick. And becauseof this, we don't really know the
status of any of our players likeCup, Tucker, and Garcia, and
I'm not even sure you're gonna seeany of them in the second half.
You might see Tucker just because he'snot on crutches, but I'm not even
sure about that or the quality ofhis play. So with that in mind,
how I'm gonna know what we havegoing forward for this year. We
(57:37):
can't really make a lot of movesbecause we just don't have a lot to
offer. And in a second andturning the pace to a different subject,
the movies. Yeah, the adultfilms got to be having a great time
with these titles. Man, youcan go with t Twisters, or you
can do a Gladiator twice or Gladiatoragain. I don't know. It's up
to you, guys. I havea give one. Thank you, Roger.
(58:00):
What did he say about the movies? I don't know what he said
about that. I don't know wherewe want. He said something about Twister,
and he said something about Denzel andthat, but I didn't hear what
he said. No, I didn'tknow what he wanted us to do with
that. No idea he could tell. If he calls back to he can
let Triple leave. Okay, let'slet's get to Brandon. Good morning,
Brandon, good morning. How wasyour All Star break? Brian? It
(58:22):
was good, It was good. Thanks for asking Buddy Glad to be back
though where and that I was backtoo? Yep? They played the Mariners
tonight in Seattle. Yep. Hey, Sean, Brian, Yes, I
won? You won? Yep?You won? What game. Oh nice,
(58:47):
Yeah, like a championship or agame or you mean this morning win?
When'd you win? And who'd youbeat? Seattle? Oh? Okay,
so you're playing the same series ofSeattle. Okay, got it.
So that's a good sign for tonightthan for the Astros. Right, Yeah,
thanks for calling. Thanks, gotthe win. Good Brandon, enjoy
your weekend, buddy. Thanks forcalling, Thanks, Bud, got the
(59:15):
win. You played the hopefully that'sa precursor. You played the U n
C Double, A football triple aboutto be on the sticks all weekend.
I have not played a video gamewith a controller now, like pinball or
something like that. I have played, yeah, arcade game. I haven't
played a video game since my kidsweren't high school college. Mm hmm man,
(59:43):
yeah, I haven't seen a controllersince then. Now I'm gonna get
should should probably have one for thehouse. And when you guys come over
and you want to do you couldkind of have fun and play, you
know what I'm saying. That's right, I'm just on a TV, which
I'll probably do, but I don't. I don't. I was more I
played hockey. When I played it, I loved I loved you play I
like when the very first what itwas at MLB show lay Fenway Park,
(01:00:06):
right, and I liked. Ithought the golf was kind of fun.
Yeah, I'll tell you what.I was a big FIFA guy. Yeah
FIFA. Yeah, I loved it. But hockey and FIFA for me,
were the top. I didn't playfootball much because it's like anything else.
But these kids are now learning howto read coverage by playing and it's all
great. But I have not helda controller to play a video game I
hand, honestly since since then, since my kids were out of school.
(01:00:30):
Yeah, I haven't gotten the gameyet, but I will be getting it.
I can't wait. I'm ready say. It's like anything else, you
know, I don't want to doit because I don't want to get my
ass off the couch. I don'twant to get locked into that cut into
my ball striking at Royal Trend.I can't let that. I know.
You can't. You can't because youknow you like playing mid golf courses.
(01:00:52):
Yeah, because that's a mid one. It is it is internationally, it's
only like you know, thirtieth inthe in the excuse me, in the
world, but uh, not asgood as you know, like a course.
Where do you play? Weston Lakes? Weston Lakes is better than that
and Blackhawk Uh huh good golf course. Yeah, you know so? Yeah,
(01:01:14):
I like it. And I lovegolf Club at Houston too. That's
fun. We love our Astros inHouston as well well, all across the
lot starts. Yeah, I wantto I want to hear from Astros general
manager Dana Brown on Luis Garcia fromTom. I want to hear from Tom
in downtown. Yeah. I don'tsee the phone number popping up. I
think he muted it. I don'tknow. Mute and me. He probably
muted to us. What happened?Man, I don't know him, we
(01:01:36):
do, I don't know. Well, Offend, you want to hear about
the Garcia Yeah, I want toknow. I want to know what's setback?
Yeah? Well why shut him down? Why? I don't know.
Let's let's hear from Dana Brown nextand discuss it right here on Sports Talk
seven ninety. But The Shawn SalisburyShow continued. Big series. They could
(01:01:59):
take the lead in the Al Westfor the first time this season if they
win this series. Still, I'mgonna have to deal with some injury issues.
Dana Brown joined the show yesterday ashe does every single Wednesday, at
nine thirty, and he spoke aboutsome updates in regards to Lance mccollor's and
Luis Garcia, and this is whathe said. Yeah, I mean Verlander
(01:02:21):
is starting to throw sides. Youknow, that's a good thing with no
issues. So that's a you know, like I said, that's a really
that's a good thing. Mccullors hashad somewhat of a setback, so he's
not throwing that right now. He'sbeen evaluated each day. And Garcia is
you know, he's throwing seventy fivefeet and you know he's going to get
(01:02:42):
back on the h throw it backon the mount in a couple of days
here. So he's back to makingsome more progress. So you know,
I was looking at the light.Delight's looking a little brighter for Verlander and
Garcia. We're still, you know, sort of day to day trying to
figure out mccolors, all right. So basically what that shows me Sean,
Lance mccullor is not going to beavailable this season. And to be honest
(01:03:05):
with you, from what I gatherand what I understand, I wouldn't count
on the Louis Garcia either nope,And sometime you're hoping in what middle of
August to get Verlander or Tucker back, you hope, and when you do,
it'll be awesome. But no timebefore then if neither one are doing
full on baseball stuff right now,it's got to be a minimum of two
(01:03:29):
or three weeks, right, gottabe so minimum. I just what happened,
but I don't see for me itis going on with these arm injuries.
I don't know. But and Dana, I know he's got it.
Probably his team's played really good baseballand he's believed in it all the all,
you know, all year long. Two things, though, with the
trade deadline coming, they' gotta they'regonna have to make a move. I
think it's fairly obvious. Two is, and we'll know how big the move
(01:03:51):
is. It will tell you whathe thinks about the rest of the guys
that are hurt and how long it'sgoing to be that that's one. Two
is. I'm always there's a lightthat I don't see the same light right
now. I see the team. The way they're playing is a light,
no doubt, but I don't theinjury light is not real bright. For
me, it's it's flickering and attimes goes out and you gotta you know
(01:04:11):
how, you gotta rescrew in thelight bulb to make it so it's so
it catches and so it actually isfull on bright. To me, that
thing flickers right now because knowing whatyou know about the pitching staff and Tucker
today, do you see a light? I mean, I know there's a
light at the end of the time, but do you is it really bright
for you to see right now?No? No, there's not pretty dull?
Right, yeah, I would agree. I gotta I'm gonna have to
(01:04:33):
see more. I don't feel greatabout any return anytime soon. And the
two pitchers that have been out allyear in Garcian mccullors, Garcia, maybe
if you're fortunate to get them closerto the postseason, But the way it
sounds now, I don't I don'tsee. I don't see for minimum,
I don't think mccullors is pitching, and I think the chances of Garcia got
(01:04:54):
slimmer this past week. So whatis going on like as far as these
guys rehabbing and then having these setbacks. Jp Frantz, Dana Brown admitted at
some point over the last couple ofweeks or a month or so that they
rushed him back. He had shoulderissues in spring training. Shoulder surgery keeps
him out for the rest of theyear. Then you've got Lance mccullor's obviously
(01:05:15):
having a setback. Looks like he'sgonna be done for the year. Luis
Garcia looked like all signs were thathe was going to come back, and
the next thing you know, they'rebringing him back from his rehab assignment and
saying he had a setback. ChristianXavier out with a neck injury. Next
thing you know, he's got armproblems. Jose Rikidi, he was making
his way back day to day.Yes, he was at Triple A we
(01:05:35):
here in sugar Land. He wasgoing to be back soon. Next thing
you know, boom, Tommy John, how many? I mean, what
is going on? What is goingon? There's gonna you know what the
question is going to be asked,is there's gonna have to be some deeper
dive into it's happening around the league. But I don't think there's been a
(01:05:58):
more Was this on the broadcast ofthe All Star Game or was it or
there to hear it on the broadcastor am I am I thinking this?
Oh no, I take it back. It's not the Astros. We were
talking about the Texans yesterday about lastyear, and I think Ross saw the
statistic is ite. No, they'rethe mode. They were the most had
most injuries in the league last yearfor the Texans there too, exactly.
(01:06:20):
That's what I'm saying. So Idon't know if somebody is more beat up
than the Astros. I don't knowof any team in the league that has
well in tune. It's going tobe four four starting pitchers. Four starting
pitchers, not kind of starters, four guys that have been legit starters that
more than likely you'll be lucky ifone of them pitches this year lucky and
(01:06:44):
that would be Garcia. Yeah,I don't think he's going to pitch.
That's just my opinion on it.Go to all the teams that have had
injuries and contending teams, how manyof them are afloat with four starters hurt
to me. If you want towin a World Series or being World Series
hunt, you're gonna have to bringin a stud If you want to make
the playoffs, roll with it andsee what happens, and maybe you get
(01:07:06):
a little lucky and get one ofthose pitchers back and Tucker comes back and
Verlander comes back, and you're goodto go. But if you think that
you are a championship team with onebig move or a big move and in
a bullpen arm, but remember youstill got to deal with somebody else wanting
to trade him and not give upwhat you're going You're We're gonna find out
how big the sting is and howdeep they're into this this year if they
(01:07:29):
think they're a World Series team, because if the sting's really big, that
means they went out and got abigger name. Yeah. Yeah. That
trade deadline coming up on the thirtieth, so it's a week from tuesday.
It'll be here quick, hurry,Yes it will. And and I think
you hit it, hit the nailon the head with if they go and
get some pitching, that's how theyfeel about some of these injuries. So
(01:07:53):
that what did he say, thelight at the end of the tunnel,
And I'm not talking about Blake SheltonAstros general manager Dana Brown. I just
see that light as a little bitdull right now for me and at times
is when it comes to the injurypart of it, you need to change
the bulb. I'm with you, right and and look, with all that
being said, there's still just onegame out of there, which is a
(01:08:15):
tribute to what they're doing on thefield. It really is. Without Kyle
Tucker in lineup, it's quite franklythey have talent wise, they do,
but with all these injuries, mostteams would have no business being one game
out against the team. Thank goodness, they haven't played well in Seattle.
At some point, you're gonna haveto trust that Seattle is going to go
on some kind of run as well, just like the Astros did. But
(01:08:35):
if the Astros can just hang inthere and keep winning series, this may
end up being as impressive as seasonthey've had if they find themselves winning a
division at the end of this becausewith all these injuries and they're slow start,
they have no business doing it.But damn look at it. Yeah
it's incredible. Yeah, you know, the one thing you don't want to
do. Sean in the second halfof the season is performed like Ingrid Andres
(01:08:59):
at the Oh yeah we we playedthat. She's we no longer. Fergie
is no longer the worst. Yeah, I'm not saying something. Yeah she
she She now in second place, still in the team picture. But this
one was about as epically bad.You can't say epic bad. Epic is
always good for me. This ishistorically. Remember you remember how we've talked
(01:09:20):
before on the show, where likelike players struggle and then they cite like
like they cite something, you know, something like Jesus Christ or whatever,
and you're like, oh, no, you can't. You can't go after
him, criticize somebody thanks the Lord. Yeah, but I want to thank
the Lord for his injury. I'veseen I haven't played well, but when
(01:09:41):
he brings when the church and theLord and stiff praying, it's like Wilson,
Sorry, Russell, Wilson all thetime. You know what, The
good Lord's probably sitting there and saying, oh, don't blame that on me.
Yeah, it's like, Russell, you just threw your fourth interception of
the game. You guys lost fourteento seven because you couldn't put that too
minute drive Together's like like first andforemost, I want to think my Lord
and saving Jesus Christ. Oh oh, so he can't criticize you, No,
(01:10:02):
you can't write and andrews now she'sa drunk. Yeah, well I
just got to read. Well, now, listen, I'll never make fun
of somebody gonna get Rehabshi. It'sfully good for her, Yes, good
for her. Then if you weredrunk and you knew it then declined to
sing it, yeah, exactly.Okay, So you don't put yourself in
a situation for us to say,oh, nice timing award. So you're
(01:10:23):
drunk and the next day you're goinginto rehab or we're not allowed to criticize
it. Well, you're still gettingcriticized, right, Uh. And we
hope that you get your life inorder. Next time you sing your good
according to her, next time yousing your sober yeah, because you probably
need it. At the end ofthe light or the at the end of
the tunnel y light, there's aneon light there, it is there you
go. But man, I'm saying, yeah, she was, Uh that
(01:10:45):
was That was as bad as you'llever hear. Yeah for a person who's
a singer, right, not somebodywho like Lewis. Yeah, that's my
first time I'm going to do itfor a singer. Now I understand how
difficult it is. You took onthe task. It's like playing again.
Well you came to the play, got the bat in your hand. Dude.
Sorry, we can make excuse foryou, but yeah, the old
you can't criticize because well, shewas drunk and going to go to rehab.
(01:11:05):
Now I'm rooting for her rehab andhope that it makes turns her complete
life around. The bottom line isas a singer that night the national anthem
at the Home runnervery she sucked.Okay, simple choose a better booze?
Yes, or I'm being facetious,or in truth, if it was the
alcohol, then somebody standing next doorhas got to put their arm round and
(01:11:28):
say you sure you want to doit? Yeah? But also you know,
like I know, a couple ofbutton me and you throw me and
you into that. There you go. We we knocked down a couple of
booze and we go duet the nationalanthem. And I don't think it's probably
not just the drunk thing. Maybeit's such a deeper thing that she actually
that this was the tipping point ofher having to go to rehab. But
(01:11:50):
listen, regardless, it was stillpeople when they talk about national answer,
She's still going to get talking aboutand hoping hopefully some day ten years from
now, and she's killing it,singing, and she's sober that she can
say that moment termed my life andbe able to have some self deprecation about
it. Uh huh, but rightnow it's uh, she's probably hers.
(01:12:10):
Hers makes Fergie's even worse because Fergieis sober sounded like that. Yeah,
what we don't want is a duetto two of them. Oh god,
no, there you go. No, not at all. There are two
popular names that have popped up withthe Astros and the trade deadline. One's
a picture and one's a big bopper? Who are they? That's next?
(01:12:31):
On Sports Talk seven to eighty,We want to win. Sean Salisbury continues
on seven ninety. Okay, you'retoo busy in Hoover, Alabama taking a
vacation. Nice area, by theway, first time over to Hoover.
Yeah, nice little trip through theSouth in Alabama. I like it.
The topography, good word really niceout there, Yeah, good topography.
(01:12:57):
Ross Bridge Golfers oors where we stayed. Nice spot. Man, did you
play? Come on? Answers? No, actually there the course state of
golfers ort to not play golf well, they shut the course down because they
had the air raid of the greensfor the season. There you go.
Yeah, so it was open fora couple of days. Sometimes you just
gotta go deal with bumpy greens.Okay, I'd rather just be at the
pool. Yeah, that's your style, isn't it. Yeah? Why not?
(01:13:18):
I'm with you. Yeah, coachthem up. So yeah. Not
everybody is a massive golf fanatic likeyou. Yea obsessive, compulsive neurotica.
You wanted to go play in thehurricane. I uh I remember I told
you I played back to the backdated I just barely beat it. I
did, I got I ain't gottime, I ain't got time to bleed,
Sean. Hurricane category three is aboutto be here. We need to
(01:13:40):
prep for the day. Hey,I'll be out at the course if you
need me. The hard stuff isn'tcoming for hours, right, Yeah,
the outer bands will get here atabout nine. But I'm playing through and
if I'm down win goodcha. Gonnaadd one hundred yards to my drive,
right seven one three two one twofive seven ninety. Let's talk to John.
What's happening to Hey, good morning, Sean, Brian. I'm glad
(01:14:02):
you're back, man. I heldoff calling until you got back. Man.
Listen, I'm ready, yeah, man, listen, I'm ready for
the new greatest show on turf again. But before I get to that,
I got a look out for theshows. Man, hey man, come
on, fellas, what was thatin that third game of the Rangers?
(01:14:23):
You bring in Montero and you don'tbring in your three your three guys,
and it's fixing of the All Starbreak man, hey man, that's I'm
sorry, man, A lot ofpeople don't like this. That's managing,
like Ayjay Hinchman did it at WashingtonWorld Series. Y'all tell me where in
the heck was that a good decision? And what was what was Joe?
(01:14:46):
It'spirted explanation. You know. I'msorry to say this, but he make
mistakes and he lies to cover uphis mistakes. Now you gonna do y'all
won't tell me that was a gooddecision, Broke, No, I can
tell you what talked about out here, John, And thanks for the call,
brother, It's always good to hearfrom you. Thursday against the Marlins.
(01:15:06):
I think it was Miami right. They played last Thursday, right,
Marlins? They used a bray youpresley hater Friday against the Rangers, A
bray, You presley hater Saturday. You can't go three days in a row.
I get Saturday Sunday. Now,I don't know unless somebody whose arm
(01:15:27):
was tired or worn out. You'rein a at the time, I believe
it was a one run game, and then you gave up Montero, gave
up the two run job to getit to four runs. You were still
in it. You didn't pitch themSaturday. You I thought would have had
them available on Sunday. I'm withJohn, I do get. We've had
a couple people question it why theyweren't pitching on Sunday, especially when you
(01:15:49):
were gonna get Monday. None ofthe three made the All Star team.
You're gonna get Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday, Thursday. And you hope you're
in a safe situation tonight, orquite frankly, hope you're not. You
hope you're in a situation where youwin by eight. Okay, you can,
but in order to get them workso that I understand getting people right.
(01:16:11):
But the legitimate explanation in a onerun game, why after Saturday off,
even though they went two days Thursdayand Friday, Saturday off three days
in a row. I agree withI wouldn't run them out there on Saturday,
Okay, even though you lost, you got to you gotta trust somebody
else at some point. But onSunday, I'm with John and I'm with
the p That part I don't get, and I don't really think there's a
(01:16:32):
legit explanation. If you'd have toldme we got a grind coming up Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday after that Sunday game, we need them, Well,
you had five days off. Ifyou were ever going to get him some
work, wouldn't that have been thetime? Yes, in a and now
in A and I understand, wellit's wasn't a safe situation because we were
behind. But at that point intime, you're just trying to salvage a
win. It's the Rangers. Andguess what you would have been half game
(01:16:56):
at a first place, right,I know you're one game. So I
thought Sunday's decision not to pitch themfrom my vantage point, I'm not the
clubhouse was a mistake, especially whenyou threw out a guy out there in
Montero who is not a high leveragepitcher. He's just not last two years,
he has not been. He's hadhis moments, but he hasn't been.
You don't rely on him in leveragesituation, or they wouldn't have gone
(01:17:16):
out and had seven eight to nineand abray you, Presley and Hater.
He'd have been one of them.So I thought that was a mistake in
John's right. It was not agood decision from my vantage point. But
I don't know if he went upto all three and said, you guys,
good for Sunday and they and wecould use the rest all the way
through to me, this last yearone he came down to one game at
the end. They had to beatAirs, So don't tell me one game
(01:17:40):
doesn't matter. So if you're goingto criticize, I think it's okay to
criticize the decision not to pitch thosethree or at least one or two of
them on Sunday before an All Starbreak. Plenty of time to rest.
We're gonna switch to Texans in theeight o'clock hours, so I just want
to pay off. It's Luis Severinoand Pete Alonso, two popular names that
the Astros could go after far ifif the Mets want to make a deal
(01:18:01):
hard throwing pitcher and a big bopperwho had a rough home run derby,
which is not like him. No, which is not like him. But
maybe that means for another big secondhalf. And if you've got if you
want to move and shake, ifyou're the Mets and want to and want
to get some assets, that's theguy you're gonna move. Yeah. So
this there's a couple of different reports. I know Bleacher Report reported this and
so did Sports Illustrated, So maybesome uh validity to it. I'll take
(01:18:28):
both. How was the severing ofthese days? Let's he pushing thirty?
Gotta be right? Yeah, hecan still pump it up. There you're
thirty. There you go. Justyeah, I turn thirty in that February.
So and if you want, ifyou want, I don't think it's
going to be the top priority. But if you want, what Dana Brown
said, a nine hundred ops guynormally, well he's playing first base.
(01:18:51):
And the only New York only problemwith Pete is he'd be a rental that's
and and they've they're not big onrentals, right, No, they're not.
So we'll we'll see what that goes. But maybe you get the rental,
And he says, I can hithome runs a lot of places.
I can hit a lot more here, and I got this lineup and a
chance to win. Why wouldn't youwant to spend more time here if you
get paid the right amount of money, if you're with the lineup, in
(01:19:11):
the organization, the fan base. But I know it is a rental,
but you want player control. ButI also am one of those guys that
believes if I that I can convinceyou to stay so, but you got
to have the money to pay guyreal quick before it gets to the eight
o'clock hour. If they went andgot Louis Severino and Pee Alonzo, would
you call him Louis? And wouldyou call him Big Pete? Well,
I call him Penguin. Isn't thatas nick days any of the penguin don't?
(01:19:34):
Isn't penguin? Don't they call himpenguin? Am I right or wrong
on that? And I just callit Lou Severina just lou Lou? Yeah,
no, no, no, PeeAlonzo's nickname is polar Bear. Oh,
polar bear. There you go,one of those things that sits in
the water, correct, right right? Cold water? Polar bear? Penguin
Polar Bear sounds better, a littlebigger and more physical Polar Bear, big
(01:19:57):
polar dog. Yeah yeah, I'lltake them both with you, with you,
all right, let's switch. Let'stalk Houston. Texans training camp started
yesterday over at NRG Stadium, cJ. Stroud coming into year two,
talking about high expectations. What arethe quarterback have to say? That's next
right here on Sports Talk seven ninetyKDM E Houston, ADHD two Houston.
(01:20:23):
Then iHeart Radio Station, the exclusiveaudio home of NBC's coverage of the twenty
twenty four Paris Olympics. This isSports Talk seven ninety The astross your Rockets,
Rockets Ball, your home for yourhome team, driven by that classic
elite to view at GMC Studios forthe elite car buying experience. Salisbury O
(01:20:51):
Salbury, Houston. Okay, let'sdo this, Sewan Salisbury, the USC
TRU longtime friends shown Salisbury, RyanLima, go Lobo. This is the
Sean Sells very Show. Yeah, but have it for the Yeah. But
but what Texas training camp started yesterday? Well, then you're late to the
(01:21:14):
party, so you can't play asong once the part of the national anthem,
we don't play it in the thirdinning. What it's a new day,
though, then you should open theshow with it. No, open
with our liner, open the showand stand up, put your hand over
your heart. That's all. Well, the national every day? You want
to start doing that every day?All right? Say the Pledge Allegiance m
(01:21:34):
Ingrid Andrews's version is what we'll playevery day. No, do you put
it in the library? Yeah, don't do that. Yeah, put in
the library. Put it in themotor Conan at the end of free Bro.
Yeah, come on, it'll eitherwake somebody up or the ears will
(01:21:56):
start bleeding. We don't want todo that, so you No, We'll
say let's save the song, saysave the as we love our Astros and
no we loves we love our gogo Astros in Texas. Yeah, it's
go go No is it go goAstros or Go Go Texans. No,
it's it's football time. Football timeyeah by Clay Walker. Yeah, c
yeah, I got you. Yeah. One of the odds that he sings
(01:22:17):
a national anthem at the home openerfor the Texans. No shot, Really,
they're moving off from him, Noshot, they're moving on from Clay
Yeah, no shot. I mean, okay, there's a shot. I
take there's a really good show.Yeah, he's probably put the leading candias.
Let's go a little bit bigger. This is a super Bowl team now,
yeah, like Clay's. But he'shad a pretty good he's had a
great good run. Yeah, buthe's been a go to for a while.
(01:22:38):
You know what I'm saying for everyye here, maybe it's time for
a little change up pitch. Ohyeah, you know, go go big.
Call up the King George? Yeah, why why not? Just call
up the King? Say George, you want to come on? Ca up
on, will send a j Georgelives in he Is he a Tennessee guy
or is he a Texas I thoughthe had something here. Either way if
he's if he's in Nashville, ifhe's a Tennessee or Franklin, Tennessee.
(01:23:00):
Garte get him in here. Sendthe private jet. I'm sure George's got
his own, but send one forhim. Have the King come in here
and sing it. You want tostart off You want to start off your
friggin football season right saying we're asuper Bowl team, Make no mistake about
it. Why don't you bring theKing in and let him start it off?
Right for you. He was livingin a mansion in San Antonio,
sant Antone. That's right. Apparentlyhe sold it, but he still resides
(01:23:25):
in Texas. All right, ashort trip for the king, bring him
in there, let him get afterit, and that'll set the tone for
a season. You already know righthow it's going to go. If you
can convince the King to come singthe national and if he can't, then
you know, go get like ParkerMcCollum could do that too. Local kids
(01:23:45):
still wait for Parker to come onthe show man. Yeah, may the
one on the Pat McAfee show.Yeah, so, and we're local,
right exactly, pay homage. Yeah, he went to College Park High School.
Come on, man, there yougo. So let's right off research
for no, that's what was thatall that in Woodlands? Right? Correct?
Yea, So I'm I'm with youon we got to get a great
(01:24:06):
singer. You gotta get a ClayWalker is a great singer. But it's
time to bring in one of thebig dogs and let him eat you feel
me? Yeah, he did goto College Parks. How about uh would
you? How about Dolly Parton? You good with her? No legend?
No, you want to go alittle more, a little more now,
yes, like the now screen? You want it right now? Yeah?
Uh? Are you Morgan Wallen?Good for you? You get there?
(01:24:28):
Go Morgan Wallan, I don't knowhow much? Yeah, I go Morgan
wall how about uh? How aboutLuke Colmbs? Luke Combs will be fantastic.
He's actually getting ready to sing.Uh to perform here some sometime in
August. Yeah, energy, littleLuke Combs, run for you? You
good there? Yeah? What aboutold John Party? You good there?
John Party? Yeah? I callhim Party. Okay, that's why I
do. But Party. Yeah,Tommy, Tommy Rhett, maybe Thomas Rhett.
(01:24:53):
Yeah. I think he's in aGeorgia guy, so he might be
a Falcons guy. I don't know. But if you want the if you
listen, hey, if you're gotto come at the King, you better
be prepared. Let's go get KingGeorge sing the national anthem? Do you
believe this is a super Bowl team? I almost thousand dollars, got a
(01:25:14):
bett? Nope, you're gonna doit. You're gonna get good odds.
Though not doing it, you don'tget good odds. What are we gonna
get? What do you get?Top Top dozen odds right now, I
mean top do you get better thanyou? I mean, listen, you
ain't gonna make much if you beton the Kansas City Chiefs, but it
might be worth your little risk rewardwith the drop a you know, uh,
what about a seat, not justa hundie. You throw a hondy
(01:25:35):
on, throw a honey on it. Yeah, So let's let's look.
Uh, this was Super Bowl oddsas of right now. Obviously the Kansas
City Chiefs forty nine, forty nineare up there, Eagles will be in
the top five. Ravens, soChiefs are plus six hundred, well actually
(01:25:57):
plus plus five plus five hundred withDraftKings forty nine, So it's Chiefs forty
nine, Ers, Ravens, Lions. Then you got the Bengals, Bills,
Eagles, Texans coming in at aplus fifteen hundred at some and plus
sixteen hundred at others. I'd puta hundo down on it. Would you
say? The Texas are on acouple of websites they're plus fifteen hundred.
(01:26:21):
On others there are plus sixteen hundred. They come in. Let's see one,
two, three, four, five, six, seven eight. The
eighth best odds Eagles in front ofthem, and Bill's Bengals, Lions,
Ravens, forty nine Ers, Chiefs. So you've got obviously the forty nine
(01:26:42):
Ers and the NFC, Lions NFC, and Eagles NFC. And then you
have the Texans, the Bills, the Bengals, the Ravens, the Chiefs,
and the AFC, because the AFCis a coutlet of good quarterbacks.
All right, who stands longer godown? Who's stand longer the chief I
mean, the the UH Bengals orthe Texans in January? Who's still standing?
(01:27:05):
I'm not put him in sup,but just who's who's eliminated first?
And saying in this, I'm gonnasay the Bengals because the Texas have a
better defense and I'm not gonna havethem play each other. Does whoever eliminate
Baltimore? The Texans? Okay?See now now for me, they added
Derek Henry to that Baltimore offense. That's gonna compliment Lamar Jackson a lot better.
(01:27:27):
But what if we always said aboutLamar Jackson in January? Can you
win in January? Yeah, He'llhave his best running back to do it,
the most physical one. Right.Excuse me? What about Bill's Texans.
Who's left standing the Texans, Jets, Texans, Texans, Dolphins,
Texans, Sexans, Uh, Chargers, Texans, Texans, even though I
like the Chargers with their new headcoach. Okay, and Herbert's got something
(01:27:51):
to prove, would you agree?Oh yeah, yeah, Jacksonville Texans.
Come on, well, you'd liketo think they're gonna they're they're gonna they're
gonna be formidable. Oh yeah, yeah, no question, all right,
so uh boom boom boom. Howabout in the a f C North the
Steelers of the Texans, Texans,Browns, Texans. It's a little intriguing,
(01:28:13):
but I still think the Texans.Okay, I think it's I think
it's the Kansas City Chiefs. Ithink there's the Baltimore Orials, and I
think it's the Texans and Baltimore Ravens. Not Orioles oriol be right there as
well. They may still be standing. Yeah, they're their obsession with basic
white guys that look like it justcame out of the frat house. Well,
they just drafted another guy, theydrafted two more, and and they
look at they all look the same. They're in the same they're in the
Sigma new Fraternage. Yeah, theyare Delta Kai. There's no Sigma Kai.
(01:28:38):
Sorry, there's both, yes, both frats. Yeah, there's no
doubt. There's there's the drafted twomore basic white and Jack the goofy looking
hair everywhere. They got a badget out of shower and they just wanted
to comb it that right, that'stheir look. Yeah, yeah, doubt
they Yeah, it's a lot ofbasic white guys, but there's nothing basic
(01:28:58):
about their game. That's they am. Sure. So you're slotting in the
Texans in the top four teams inthe AFC. Yes, I think it's
the Chiefs, the Ravens, andthen the Texans. Bengals are like one
A one B or three A threeB. Nobody from the West other than
the Chiefs is better. Nobody inthe East. You have better. The
(01:29:19):
Buffalo Bills have gave. They've gotJosh Allen, who are the wide receivers
Stefan Diggs and he plays for playfor this team. Yeah. Yeah,
didn't Davis leave as well? GaveDavis game has gone too right? Yeah,
I uh, you know, whenyou really go down hardcore. Now,
(01:29:39):
one of these teams that we're nottalking about is gonna play good football.
Yeah, right, there's gonna besomebody that's gonna surprise you, Like
the Jets. I think it's gonnabe. Well, you can't ever discount
Aaron Rodgers, especially if he stayshealthy, like he's gonna make that team
somewhere. Wilson's probably like, I'mso grateful Aaron. To me, that
is a that is one of thewild card I don't know if it's sneaky
because there's so much fun. That'sone of the o card teams. We
(01:30:00):
could either be looking at a teamthat wins twelve games, yeah and Aaron
Rodgers is in the m v Ptalk or we're like, once again we've
over hyped him. And Robert salais getting fired. Right. I think
it's the Jets and I think it'sthe Chargers that are the two that are
gonna be like you're sitting they're sittingon the fence thinking they could fall either
way. Right, Yeah, Ido, because I think Harball is going
to make that team better and Ithink he's going to elevate just to say
(01:30:24):
what, They're going to be farmore physical, right, I promise you
that. And and Herbert's been prettygood anyway, and they got a better
coach now they just do. Staley'sa good coordinator. He wasn't a good
head coach maybe the second time around. But that Jets things like who are
they? I know, talented wise, dude, They've they've got players everywhere.
Ye question is this twelve stay healthyand what we're going to get out
(01:30:46):
of them? Because they they they'rethey're a couple of wild cards with both
of those teams. Say, okay, Chargers always seem to be beat up.
Yeah, they're they're They're like they'rethe every year, this year's Astros
right there. They lose like fiveplayers that are stars a year all the
time. I'm anxious to see thosetwo teams play, and I right now
because Burrow's getting healthy, Cincinnati's gotto be considered and their veteran I Aside
(01:31:11):
from the Kansas City Chiefs and probablyBaltimore, there's no clear cut third team.
I think the gap is closed betweenthe top five teams. Kansas City
is still a cut above, butI think the gap is closer than it's
been with the top three or fourteams. In a minute, I do
(01:31:34):
because the Jets are going to beintriguing Burrow healthy if Burl's healthy, Cincinnati
will be around. This team rightnow is optimistic as we've been since the
Texans have been the Texans. Sothis segment we talked about some of these
expectations going into this season. CJ. Shroud was asked about those expectations.
What did he say? What discussthe next on Sports Talk seven ninety
(01:31:54):
talk about closing the gap and someof the top things in the top teams
in the NFL. Well, thetop team when it comes to home generator
is Brotherly Love Electric. They offerthat American made brigges of Stratton home generator
from Brotherly Love Electric. They area diamond dealer for the American made Briges
Stratton generator. It's the They offerthe largest air cold unit on the market,
which includes ten year warranty models.Their warehouse is fully stocked and they
(01:32:16):
have the shortest lead times in thecity right now. Obviously, we had
the hurricane come through, so manypeople were without power, and I know
people that are still dealing with issuespower coming off going or power coming on.
Then it's going back off, backon, back off. It's annoying
and you don't have to worry aboutit if you have a generator from Brotherly
Love Electric. To call right nowand get yourself a freequil so you don't
(01:32:39):
have to worry about the next bigstorm that comes here through the city Houston,
because you know what's gonna happen.Just because it's died down a little
bit here in the middle of July, that Gulf of Mexico water is just
gonna get hotter, and those stormsare gonna come through the city and power
will be lost once again. Threefour six seven seven seven three three seven
zero three four six seven seven seventhree three seven zero. Stop waiting around,
(01:33:02):
get you that quote and get theAmerican made Briggs in Stratton home generator
from Brotherly Love Electric. They alsooffer twenty four to seven monitoring of your
generator system, so if there's aproblem, they're gonna know about it before
you do. They've been servicing thegreater Houston area for over ten years and
they have the shortest lead times inthe city. Right now, it's the
American made Briggs and Stratton home generatorfrom Brotherly Love Electric. It's a connection
(01:33:23):
you can count on. Let thecelebration start wor Shawn Salisbury, It's a
Shawn Salisbury show. I got abunch of quarterbacks on my team, and
I was asking them, like whentheir camp start. It's like in a
week or so, like the ninthor the tenth of August, so like
two weeks. Yeah, I'm justthinking. I mean, I know they
get like is thereon around two theyget like a late January break. In
(01:33:44):
this state, I can't run,I can't even keep up with. You
get a lot of time off duringthe year. They do, they get
like a fall break down. Yeah, was you get We didn't get a
fall break? Yeah, did we? You went when you started school,
the first break was Christmas break offThanksgiving, we had Labor Day. Well,
school started after Labor Day. Ohsee for us, it was before
mid August. Then you had LaborDay and then you didn't have anything until
(01:34:04):
Thanksgiving and then Christmas. School endedJune second or third or fourth in that
range. First, and we didn'thave snow days that you had to like
in Minnesota where they have so manysoda and if you go over you got
to take three extra days. Startedearly June, got all of June off,
all of July off, all ofAugust off, and we started the
day after Labor Day or two daysafter late whatever it was. Yeah,
(01:34:25):
and then we went till Christmas. You got Thanksgiving the day off or like
it's the Friday of Thanksgiving, andthen you Christmas holiday came back like January
seventh, and you got spring breakhuh for a week and that was it
and you're out June third. Rightthere do they get They don't get three
months off, But they're all gettingalong the way there still. I know
(01:34:46):
there's so many days you got toget into school year, but I swear
to you, I just they justgot out of school and they're already camps
about to starting. They're back inschool. Yeah, nuts, man,
Yeah that means that. But hey, that means football season is right,
screw those kids. Well, youknow how I feel the kids. What
I'm saying, punk ass kids, you know what I mean. Well,
(01:35:08):
it's exciting. I love seeing thequarterbacks and the way that they all the
work these guys are putting in,man, I and then watching the results.
I'm excited for all of them andthe guys that went on to college.
I just I love watching their progress, man, seeing them win.
The development of players that you givelessons to or that you coach, like,
it's uh, it's a beautiful thingwhen you see it. Kind of
(01:35:28):
all the great satisfactions on that absoland in the in turn, I learn
a lot from them, you know, I do along the way and what
goes through their thinking. Yeah,I don't know if there's any more.
They're not a paycheck, not ayou know, not an award. I
don't know if there's any more satisfactionthan when or a high school coach a
good buddy, you know, whenwhen they'll call and say, man,
what you're doing with these guys,or even a college coach it's recruiting them
(01:35:49):
and says, hey, man, you've done some good things. And it's
not me, it's it's it's theway they're working. It's the kids it
is, and it's not My pointis it makes me feel good to be
able to tell the kid men, here's what this guy thinks about you,
or look at the things you're doing, and most importantly, to watch the
light switch go on for them andenjoy their success. Yeah. Like I
said, I'm just a moving,a long guy to help them. They're
(01:36:12):
putting the work in. Yeah, you put them in the best position to
be successful, and it's their jobto either take that or not and when
they do and it clicks, it'sit's like you said, it's one of
the most satisfying. And how tobe a great teammate and handle success and
failure. Yeah, and earn therespect to your teammates. And remember the
highest company you can get is bysomebody saying he was a great teammate.
(01:36:32):
Yeah. When you're that, therest take care of it. Oh yeah,
absolutely, And I'm fortunate that Iget a lot of those guys.
C J. Stroud spoke about highexpectations yesterday at training camp. That is
what the quarterback had to say.Just work, you know, that's all
it's about, is just working. You know, either you do it or
you don't. You know, we'rethe ones on the field that got to
go figure it out. And youknow, I think we'll do that.
We're playing ball since we've been kids, and you know it's not gonna be
(01:36:55):
easy. It's gonna be harder. You know, we have a target on
our back this year and you knowthat's how you should want to, you
know, And that's what I'm usedto playing at a high state and you
know, I'm just I'm really youknow, honored and blessed. How the
teammates that I do to to wantthat challenge and for guys that want to
come and play here, because youknow, this is if this Secony team
isn't for everybody's hard here and youknow we're we're blessed enough to play a
game that we've been playing since we'vebeen kids. So you know, I
(01:37:16):
definitely do think that all the expectationshe just worked, I mean, everything
will take care of himself. Storyis already ridden. So he doesn't sound
like a second year quarterback. UhNo, Hence why he doesn't play like
He doesn't play like one either. The guy is just just a different he's
(01:37:38):
just built different man. And Idon't know how long family he's had to
overcome stuff, you know, withhis father, you know, and and
yeah, and just and I thinkhe I don't think what you're hearing from
him just talk. I don't Ithink that. I think what you're hearing
from him is, you know, some guys talking, but don't walk it.
I think that great leaders just kindof step out in front and show
(01:38:00):
you how to do it. Doit, do it right. Yeah,
they're not pushing you to go doit. You're bringing them along. And
you know, when you got talent, you got work ethic, you got
accountability, and you got passion forloving it. And I think that of
all those things, to me,there's more accountability on this team than has
been in the past. Oh youheard CJ. He said, this Texas
(01:38:20):
team isn't for everybody. It's hardhere and that goes up to the top
of leadership, and that's Demiko Ryans. Well, I can tell you one
thing. Well, when teams arewinning, you say, man, they
make it look easy. I gotnews for it. Everything they've done to
get there is hard, and it'sreally hard to stay successful and sustain it
and to be and to keep doingit. And this team's only done it
(01:38:41):
for I mean, just this year. But I think they have a great
perspective and I think we're all notconcerned, all curious to see and I
think we know how they're going tohandle success in twenty twenty four. I
think I know the answer because theright people are in the right positions.
I think with the way that DemikoRyans runs this football team, you can
(01:39:01):
obviously see that the accountability factor hasrisen tremendously throughout the building. Yeah,
and I don't think I don't thinkthey give a rats ass that they won
ten games last No. No,I don't think they care right now.
Yeah, no, nor should they. Yeah. Demiko Ryans also spoke to
the media, talked about what heexpects out of these rookies. What did
he say? That's that's next righthere on the Seawan Salisbury show. Oh
(01:39:25):
you need me, don't you?Triple Lee? You need me? And
you know what you guys need Countryboys roofing, Country with a K,
boys with a Z. My guy, John's got it going on, locally
owned and operated. And they don'tchase storms. Unfortunately here we don't have
to. They come get you.So you got choice. You can you
know the old pay me now,pay me later, old fram oil filter
commercial, not to get on anoil filter. And we're talking about roofing.
(01:39:48):
But you want to be safe andyou want to be protected. You

(01:42:15):
face because when you don't, whenyou shave your face, you look so
so just so young, that young, strapping and you look like an ass.
What are you talking about, likelike like a smooth ass, like
a prick? You look Oh Ido you mean without the goat? I

with the hair, I look nicer, Yes, So like the five o'clock
(01:42:39):
shadow makes you look nice, Yes, it does. When I've clean shaven,
I just look like a royal prick. Yeah, but I couldn't say
what you know, A yeah correct, Yeah I was didn't. That's a
weird point, but I feel youon that. Yeah, you look fear
kinder jeler sean like a Jason five. It was like five eight. Yeah.
I did give a hair cut andyou got you it's just drinks.
(01:42:59):
It's like you, that's like alittle summertime casual. Happen good on the
golf course if you need it.Look, man, I'm not trying to
get in your you know, Idon't get in a man's wallet, don't
get a man's sheets. But ifyou know the pineapple thing and the time,
just drinks in a pineapple. Butsee, I wouldn't know about those
that because I've never been to Timebombon a Thursday, I swing a golf
club. You turned that around?Yeah, I mean you happen to live
(01:43:20):
in near the Woodlands and near aTommy Bahama. It's a block right whoa
so? And you seem to knowabout Thursdays. What happens on Thursday nights
of time Ohama? It's swears night? Oh? Is it? It is?
What? And good people watching there? I've always wondered what the pineapple
and and swingers has to Is itjust their code? It's their code?
Yeah, if you see a pineapple, that means that they're they're down.
(01:43:41):
Oh okay, I'll make sure Idon't wear this hat there. Yeah.
Is that real true? Or doyou make it up with the pineapple?
I know the pineapple things. Butit's time on Thursdays, is it.
They don't promote it like, hey, your girlfriend's wife. It's the husband.
It's like the worst kept secret inthe woodlands. Hey, come on
in, grab yourself a nice colddrink, maybe a Long Island ice team.
(01:44:04):
You can bang my husband. Youknow what is that? What it
is? I'm talking like, yeah, pretty much? Hey that No,
it's more like it's more like sixtyyear old man. It's like, hey,
hey, I got a lot ofcash, give me a thirty year
old what's that? Give me aneat, you know, like a bourbon
or something. Yeah, what's thedrink that you put the big ice cube
in? Oh you're talking about auh you're talking one Manhattan or talking about
(01:44:31):
a They make it in certain restaurants. So make it in a little holder
and bring it out like yeah, yeah, exactly. Got the smoke and
they it's it's one of the almostwhiskey drinks on the planet. I just
drink straight bourbon whiskey without ice.So I was cold, man, I
mean, yeah, I straight bourbonor I'm a whiskey sour, old fashioned,
(01:44:54):
old fashion. Yeah, these oldold dudes come in. Let me
get an old fashioned. If anyonewants to bang my wife, she's here.
And so they said, watch inthe corner, Tommy. Hey,
we got coconut shrimp. Uh huh, you got you know, drinks in
a coconut. You can grab yourselfin old fashioned, and by the way,
grab my wife. But by theway, you can bang her at
the end of the bar. Really, come on, man, Yeah,
(01:45:17):
and it's by the way, it'stwo for one night in more ways than
one. There you go. Allegedly, I wouldn't know. I wouldn't either.
This is just a simple golf okay. And by the way, it's
scheduled to rain for the next liketen days. I saw that. I
saw that fantastic when I'm when I'mwhen I'm sitting in Bermuda Dunes and palm
(01:45:38):
springs like on Friday next week, playing all get up and just go.
I'm gonna be on the sip.I'm gonna be wearing a rain jacket.
Ye, they're gonna be Bermuda whateverout there, San Diego, Muta Scott,
come pretty, get that, getthat on sip ready for next week,
(01:45:59):
Uh, working vacation, Schohn willbe And it's four to eight on
the West coast by about eight fortyfive, I'll be pumping balls on the
range out there of Bermuda done somewherein the desert palm desert. You're gonna
be pumping what pumping ball? Pumpinggolf balls at the flagstick, pumping balls
at a stick. Interesting, theyhave a Tommy Bahaman pompy. What happened
(01:46:26):
to me? Look look at youguys, man over a hat. I
mean, Tripley knows about the pineapplestick? Can you guys zoids? You
guys are freaking zoids. I feellike that's got to be racist, as
some some some former fashion you yousaying look at Tripley or me saying zoids.
No, I didn't say look atTripley. He said, yeah,
Tripley, look at you go lookat Tripley. He knows. I said,
(01:46:47):
Tripley knows about it. Yeah,Well, didn't you say, look
at Tripley he knows. No,you said Tripley knows about it? What's
you says to look at him?I mean same thing? Right? No,
Now you're here, listened to Tripley? I did? I said listen
to triple about listen. That's whatI'm saying. Don't don't read into it.
Don't get all, don't get all. No, because you got a
(01:47:08):
date there next Thursday night. IfI were to ever go on a date,
you taking the date to Tommy boI'm on a Thursday. Well,
if you want to be a teamplayer, I guess according to you,
it's allegedly, man, you suredo. I can't confirm I've I've been
maybe confirmed, Nor did I writeallegedly Man, I don't know. I
(01:47:29):
mean just just what I've heard. He give me some of those potstickers and
a and a two for one bangbang job. Yeah, what's that?
A new drink notes the two chicksat the end of the bar. Yeah,
and the husband. Just make surehe gets bandscape and keep him away
from me. The tab Yeah tipson him. Hey, hey, by
(01:47:55):
the way, that tips on him. Oh and hey, by the way,
where's Tom? I know Tom anddowntown. Come on, I'm gonna
ask for Tom every day until hecalls in here. Used to be Tom
would call him join us every dayearly too. Did he get a job
change? No, I'm telling youhe calls in the next up something.
(01:48:15):
Maybe we upset him. I don'tknow over what, I have no idea
it go go to guy. Wehad a lot of them. I know,
man, I just say, youknow why, first thing comes in
mind. I always worry about people'shealth. Yeah, I agree that Larry
hadn't called it in a long Itold you he called her in baseball.
Yeah, but I get I know, they got other things, more important
things sometimes do on a day whenthere's no baseball right after the All Stars,
(01:48:40):
Like, I get it, butI do. I get concerned with
people's help when I don't, becausethey become friends. And I'm like,
I've seen that happened before, andlike and then you've hear over the course
of my career, you've heard, well he's he's no longer with us,
Like, oh my gosh. SoI just always get concerned and make sure
they're okay. As long as they'reokay, I'm good. Yeah. And
so I was concerned about Tom andand you say, he's okay. You
heard him. That's good. Wemissed. We do miss him. Yeah.
Uh. Speaking of of the phonelines, we're gonna open them up
(01:49:03):
because we had Sabercat tickets to giveaway Sean fourteen and two championship hopes Saturday
night. Yep, six thirty YEP. I know we'll talk about it in
a while, yep. But alot of good stuff going on. Firework
show. Uh. And it's theHatfields versus McCoy's and Dallas and Houston getting
it on. It's the playoffs. And we've got five sets of tickets to
(01:49:26):
give away. And I'm gonna youknow what, We're gonna give code word,
code word pineapple because of Sean's atthis is morning. Code word is
pineapple. Call in right now sevenone three two one two five seven ninety.
You tell Triple Ey that code word. You get yourself a set of
four tickets for free to the iHeartRadioParty Zone this Saturday night Sabercat Stadium against
(01:49:48):
the Dallas Jackals. It's the playoffs. Free tickets to the playoffs. Code
word pineapple. Call in right nowseven one three two one two five seven
ninety. Talk to Triple E andget those tickets for the Houston SaberCats playoff
game this Saturday night. Wear amask, wear gloves, wear leather and
(01:50:09):
chains. Reminds me of that timeI accidentally walked into an S and M
convention. My back still hurts.Would be good, Oh, speaking of
back pain. Back to former QBSean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety getting
Medieval on him shun going into trainingcamp as a rookie. Sean, what
(01:50:33):
was what was one thing you weremost excited about as a as a player?
Yeah? As a player, yeah, excited. I was. I
was well, first of all, excited. The opportunity to begin what I
would hope was going to be along career ten years was nice. But
most rookie first of all, letthem make no mistake about it. Excited
(01:50:56):
excited. I love that choice ofwords, but you know what it is.
You're scared out of your damn mind. Not not scared to the point
where you're shivering, but your yourguts wrench because you know this is an
opportunity to do what you did whenyou were doing since you were a kid,
and now you're going to get paidto do it and a chance to
reach you a lifelong goal. You'rein a training camp, But make no
(01:51:16):
mistake about it, it was afriggin grind. You're thinking about everything and
you want to You want to proveto your teammates first off. You want
to prove to yourself. And Ithink you think you belong when you played
you know, college, football, and you did well and somebody respects you
enough to bring you to camp ordraft you. You're like, okay,
they like me. But you knowwhat deep down from me, Brian,
(01:51:36):
it was, I was It wasn'tanxious. I was excited because it was
new, right, but the nervesto make sure you just never know that.
Am I prepared? Right? AmI going to study? Right?
Am I do? Am I managingmy time right between practices so I don't
get behind mental My whole concern was, well, my you know high football
like you. I don't mean thataergant, but I knew how to study
(01:51:57):
and prepare. But it's the pros. It's just different. And I knew
physically I could make any throw.I could do anything they can do.
But you never know with the veterans, when you're there and you're starting quarterbacks,
been there eight or ten years,You're like, Okay, how do
I keep up with this? SoI don't get left behind practice after because
the installation is the hardest thing. It's ten formations or ten formations, four
(01:52:23):
motions, six runs, eight passes, I mean eight pass place morning practice
three hours, break, boom, lunch, go, get a quick nap.
Coming meeting, four passes, threemore runs, three more formations,
two more motions. Oh and bythe way, they were playing cover two.
Now they're playing cover three, Coverone, Cover four, Cover seven,
(01:52:44):
quarter quarter halfs whatever, cover six. You know what I'm saying.
So it's that part is always there. Am I doing enough? I want
to enjoy the fellas? But amI doing enough not to get left behind
many? You were not going toleave me behind physically. That was never
going to be the problem. Andthe problem is a rookie, can you
keep up with because they're going atveterans pace. Man, I don't have
time to slow down. I gotfour weeks. I got to get ready
for a season. I don't havetime to slow down. For you,
(01:53:05):
Brian, if you're a rookie andyou're not keeping up with Steve Largent at
wide receiver, I don't expect youto be him. But you got to
manage it. You just got tostudy, and then it's got to translate
from the practice field, from themeeting room to the practiceld. Then you
and as a rookie, you feellike you got to make every play.
So for me, it wasn't Iwas excited to be at the Pellas.
But you know what the number onething for me wasn't oh, I get
(01:53:26):
a paycheck. It was gaining respectfrom the veterans on the team. Is
that when they put you in thehuddle three weeks into camp, that you
had played well enough that they whenyou get in the huddle, and then
that third preseason and they say wecan win with your ass. Yeah,
And that made me feel really, really good. And I knew that I
was gathering and gather up steam. And in the final presets we had four
(01:53:47):
preseason games. The final preseason gamesDavid Craig and I split. Now that
was when the veterans playing a tonDavid Craig and I, who was a
starter in Seattle and a hell ofa player Pro Bowl, we split time
two core each. So I hadhad one of those preseats. But the
great thing wasn't all that David Craigwas the start of no problem. It's
the fact that along the way Iearned respect every single friggin day in the
(01:54:08):
grind on the practice field. Tohave the veterans that if they put me
in they weren't worried. That wasmy number one priorty. Then the rest
take care of itself, you're gonnamake mistakes, you're gonna make plays,
and that they looked at me asa guy they could trust and then in
the process just being a damn goodteammate. And I had guys my rookie
year like Jacob Green, who's anA and M guy who's one of my
favorite people in the world who've putme put his arm around me and I'm
(01:54:30):
talking about was a mentor and tookcare of me. And Steve Dude,
I was a pain in the assduring training camp and during the season my
rookie after I made the team.During training camp, Dude, I'd sit
in that steam room with Kenny Easley, Steve Largent and whoever else was in
there, and I'd follow him aroundlike a baby duck fall on a mother
duck. It's like, I know, at some point, I were like,
(01:54:50):
Sean, go home, leave usalone. I just want to hear
what they taught. And I wasa sponge for that. So my thing
was not, oh, I'm gettingpaid. It was all I used to
reach those dreams. My goal wasone was, yeah, I'm excited,
but to see how my game matchesup. But for me, it was
the number one priority. Was togain respect and trust to my teammates.
(01:55:12):
So if it ever did and Igot in there, that they didn't,
they didn't have to panic in worryingthat I could do my job. And
a lot of guys will be thinkingnow if you're a first round draft pick,
you're thinking about what starting making aninstant impact. Mine was to create
enough trust that if I if Iwas going to play, they that they
trusted playing me, the coaching staffand the players, And that was number
one for me. Now, firstround draft picks like we Will Anderson from
(01:55:34):
lastear CEDI stout, they're just preparingto get their team to win games and
be ready to go and start. But a guy who's a free agent or
a mid round draft pick, he'sgrinding every day knowing that he can't make
many mistakes because the rookie who's afirst rounder can make more mistakes than the
fifth round or why. Because he'sthe first rounder, he's going to get
a longer lease than you got.And so that pressure and knowing the pressure
of every day practice, you couldn'ttake a practice off as a rookie.
(01:55:56):
You just couldn't. Yeah, speakingof Will Anderson Junior, his transformation he
talked about it yesterday. He gainedfifteen pounds. Why though, there was
something that he noticed in his rookieseason and again he was the defensive Rookie
of the year. Let's talk aboutthat next as we get into the final
hour of the nine o'clock hour righthere on the Shawn Salisbury Show. Before
we get to that, let metell you about my good friends over at

Salisbury to usc Trumps longtime friend,Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima, go Lobos.
(01:58:29):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.Miko Ryans yesterday speaking to the media
after camp, and he talked aboutexpectations of the rookies. This is what
you have to say for our rookies, is I tell him, We're not
waiting on you. It's time togo, like we drafted everyone for a
reason. Like you're here for areason, so show up and let's see
(01:58:50):
why you are here. It's noway to see two years down the line.
It's like, what are you doingfor us right now? We want
our rookies to know understand the urgencyof them to contribute right now is not
a later thing, it's a rightnow thing. And they understand that message.
They ain't waiting. Sean did Inot say that the teams? I
(01:59:12):
mean he was a player. Hegets it, and as a coach,
they don't have time to wait. That's why I said, as a rookie,
they're not waiting on me to pickup on the offense. That's your
responsibility as a player. They've gota game to prepare for. And I
ain't talking the preseason. You're notscouting teams in the preseason. You're not
game planning for who they play inthe opening preseason gamesh you're talking about the
Hall of Fame game. Yeah, let me look, I can't remember who
(01:59:35):
they play. Regardless that that oughtto show you how game planning. How
I don't care about preseason game planning. Bears. Okay, they're playing the
Bears. You're not watching tape. You may watch tape. You're not putting
in specific down in distance moments forthe Bears. You know you're working on
in preseason your stuff. You're workingon your stuff, which you do,
and then you just deal with thecovers. If they show this, we'll
(01:59:58):
do this. It's the regular season. You're parent for defenses and stuff.
You're trying to get all your guysin and get execute what you do.
But you don't have time to waitfor them. And that's when when you
asked me. It's like they're notwaiting on me. That's your job to
catch up to everybody else and it'sa tough task. And then you got
to go execute the damn thing onthe field. So listen the fact that
once you show up to camp, the old uh courting them and we drafted
(02:00:20):
you. We love you, welove you. That fine. Now you
got a jersey on there, gottago where in your spot? Man,
you got a name on a jersey. Let's go. Gotta go play.
Because we had gamepl we gotta getall the implementation and get our library put
in so we can grab from itwhen we game plan during the regular season,
all leading to the opening game inSeptember, that a Hall of Fame
game a week from two weeks fromyesterday, coming in a hurry. You
(02:00:44):
ready to go? You want it? You want to go tollgate? Uh?
Not at that. You want togate here? I'm gonna save.
No, I'm gonna should go tothe regular season. We should go to
NRG and tailgate in the Hall ofFame game. Yeah yeah, you want
to do that? Yeah? Whynot? It's on a Thursday evening.
Yeah, just like you got thereearly, you know, we got themrning
shows, so we can get outthere early. You get out there by
the game in Canton, Ohio. We'll have to get there early to tailgate
(02:01:08):
here in the parking lot. Yeah, to beat the other eight people that
might be doing. Probably we canmake it to like a show thing.
You know. Maybe we should broadcastlive from the parking lot at at six
in the morning. Yeah, onThursday for the for the Hall Ofway game
Football time in Houston. Maybe wecan jam the hell out of that.
That's that's a commitment to that.Man, they're scared stay at home.
(02:01:30):
Then. Now, if you toldme we are going to go on a
running tailgate du canon or I'm talkingabout regular season, let's let's go.
I'm all over it. Let's go. Yeah, college football games, NFL,
let's go. Yeah. Energy isgonna be rocket util they start building
more restaurants and all that stuff overthere. Yeah, great is that going
to be? I don't know,you know, you're gonna do a damn
thing until they tear that ugly assdome down. That's respectfully too, because
(02:01:55):
I love the astronome, but it'shis eyesore. Now, But we've had
that discussion before. Sometimes sometimes youjust gotta let go. It's time to
let that go. Build me somehigh high, get some good roundings,
good good Mexican plays three. Threeweeks from today, preseason game number one
at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Come on, you ready? Yeah, I'm ready.
(02:02:16):
You're not camp ready yet. You'renot read. You gotta get you
got to build up to You're notready yet. So they got the Hall
of Fame game, Steelers, Giants, Rams. Those are your preseason games.
Yeah. Week one is at theIndianapolis Colt. So all right,
let's go through the schedule. You'reonly going to see a smidge of what
they're going to do, y'uring theregular season. In the preseason, you
don't guess much. A lot ofbasic stuff, I know, a lot
(02:02:39):
of basic casic stuff. Yeah, let's see. Let's look at these away
games. You want to go theirseason? Yeah, you want to go
in to Indy No, great citythough, clean, great city, great
steakhouse there. I want to goto Minneapolis, Yeah I could go there.
Yeah they need to get it.You know, they've had they've been
through some tough times down town, but yeah they have it is a mini
(02:03:00):
Minneapolis, same pot. That placemeans a lot to me. Yeah,
I like it. Okay, sothere's a potential road trip. Uh,
you want to go to New England? No, yeah, do I I'm
good. You want to go toGreen Bay? Now if the Astros are
playing the Red Sox. I knowthey're playing them there. I think in
August, early in August October.Yeah, no, I don't want to
go to green Bay. Yeah, you haven't been a green Bay. That's
(02:03:21):
a place you need to go.That would be the equivalent of you going
to Fenway Park as a baseball fan. Okay, at the New York Jets
on Halloween, I'll pass. Yeah, I mean too. At ooh,
at the Dallas Cowboys November eighteenth. That's a Monday, isn't it. It's
all in the really dropped the ballon having them on Thanksgiving. Leave Friday
(02:03:41):
after the show, Leave Friday afterthe show, and let's go. Yeah
yeah, the whole the time, right, the whole time. Yeah,
I'm in freaking awesome. At youwant to go to Jacksonville, you would
be begging. People will be saying, Okay, it's cooled off a little
bit. It'd be fun because Ithink we got to We're gonna have a
Lawrence and Stroud battle. I meanit, it'd be fine at that time.
(02:04:04):
I'm either way, okay, fine, I guess at Kansas City.
Yeah, that's place to go.Good smell and that's the smell of barbecue.
And the they are great tailgating, big, huge open parking lot.
And you're seeing the best in theleague first, a guy who's a few
years away from being the best inthe league. Yeah, Paty's nuts.
(02:04:25):
Pati's nuts. Yeah. Yeah, and uh and and Stroud and Mahomes.
What a phenomenal quarterback duel that'll be. And then Week eighteen to be determined
at the Tennessee Titans, I goto Nashville. Ashville, Yeah, man,
we'll go over there to uh,you know one of those Yeah,
Toby, I think your guy,uh, Morgan Wallace just opened up a

he He may have a bar there? He just opened up? Who just
opened up the newest bar? Alot of guys. Oh what's his name?
Eric Church? That's what I'm thinking. Church has a new BA.
Yeah, let's go. Let's freakinggo Churchy on Nashville. Dash. You
don't need an event to a sportingevent to go to Nashville. But if
(02:05:06):
you got one, you get todouble dip. Yeah, I'm in let's
see, did Garth Brooks just openup one? He's got one there too,
Yes, he's little places bar.Yeah, and I think they're right
down the street, A lot ofthem right down the street. It's a
who's who a bars lined up inthat street in that area. What's it
called Broadway? Yeah, Broadway?Watch out for Morgan wall and throwing chairs
(02:05:27):
though, could happen that happened?Hey, No, pub's bad pub apparently.
Guess not. I guess not, man. I mean. So those
are all the away games for theHouston Texans. As we get to break,
we got to talk about Will Anderson. You see how Jackie is?
Yeah, and give you a moresound when you got three hundred pounders trying
to push you around. There's areason why. Yeah, there's a reason
(02:05:49):
why he went through the body oftransformation. Will Anderson spoke about it.
Let's talk about it next. Sportlockseven hight. Hey, guys, it's
summer time. If you're not feelingthe sizzle, the sizzle with your financial
advisor, your current will to makethe switch at least go and take your
free consultation. Go in there andfree review with Trajon. Well tra Ja,
(02:06:09):
And are you spending as much timeon your finances and your planning of
your retirement and with your financial advisors? You do planning a vacation over the
summer. I understand we all wantto plan for good vacation, but isn't
planning for a good vacation? Also, if you're doing in advance, you're
making money wise money decisions. NowYou've got a lifetime to do it,
and it goes fast. And youin retirement, you about to retire.
(02:06:29):
You that are thinking about retirement, there's no age on retirement, that's up
to you. But preparing for it, there is risk tolerance. You have
questions, they have answers. Howlong? I mean, what if you
don't want to stay retired? Doyou have enough money to come back out?
Do you have enough money to dothe things you want to do to
take some chances along the way andget on the unpaved road? What about
this? Do you have enough moneyto retire today? If you don't,
(02:06:51):
what are you doing to make sureyou get it done right? So find
the financial advisor of financial fiduciary andtheir number one priority is you and your
portfolio. Find one that cares, that has answers that you can build trust
with. It's transparent, and italso has answers to your questions that as
expertise. And one thing more canbuild peace of mind for you and with
(02:07:11):
you is the more important thing stanShoulder to shoulder. Your financial advisor almost
needs to be your best friend, right especially when it's retirement and it's your
family involved and your life and yourpeace of mind. It's Trajanwealth dot Com

blast to watch. Seven one three, two five seven It's talk to Biscuit.
Biscuit, Good morning, Hey,Leama. Back on the scene back
(02:07:58):
in the saddle, one in asaddle again. Damn right, biscuit.
What's happening? Hey man? Shineleave them living for the weekend. Baby,
Uh, let me say this.Shean see, man, she's starting
to she's starting to pick it up. I know y'all probably seen the highlights.
Man, Man, I love theway she passed the ball. Man,
(02:08:22):
she's got she got such phenomenal courtawareness. Man. You know,
anybody says, oh, she's justa three point shooter. How'd that look?
Yeah? Yeah? How how howjust under twenty assists look to you?
Huh yeah? Hey man, sheshines so she throws bounce, pasted
rival Magic Johnson. Man, Imean she be on the money. I'm
(02:08:45):
like, man, she's a greatwatch. I think Dan Patrick I didn't
hear the sound. I saw thehow they teased it. I think Dan
said she needs to be in them v P talk this year. I
thought I saw that. Let melet me tell you guys really quick.
Let me put the some stats onKaylyn Clark. I'm glad you brought the
sub biscuit. So I'm gonna compareher to Kelsey Plum, Jewel, Lloyd,
(02:09:07):
Diana Tarassi, Chelsea Gray. Thoseare all Olympic guards. And remember
the women and the pressure following herand biscuits right on with this man,
with her her ability to get theball to people in the right spot.
Kaylen Clark is averaging seventeen points agame. That is better than Chelsea.
That's better than Diana Tarassi. Uh, it's right up there with Kelsey Plumb.
Jewel Lloyd has twenty twenty points pergame. You look at she has
(02:09:31):
better rebounds per game, she hasbetter assists per game, and she has
better steals per game. She actuallyhas better blocks per game. She has
a better free throw percentage, shehas better e field goal percentage, whatever
expected field goal percentage. She's leadingstatistics out of all these Olympic guards.
And that kept her off the team. Yes, anyway, and she's face
is more pressure than anybody in theleague this year. Yeah, and expectations
(02:09:52):
pressure, and she doesn't bother, she doesn't respond all the nonsense when people
go she just plays. Yeah. And her her complete game is she's going
to be a phenomenal player and herrher presence in this league is going to
make you sell out arenas for awhile. It's awesome to watch, Hey,
sean. Watch out next year, man, because you can see her
(02:10:16):
adapting and picking it up because theyblitzter, you know, they they double
they trap her. You know.It kind of caught off guard first because
she's in college. She was moreof a score and she passed, but
she was more of a score. Now she's turned into more of a facilitator
that also scores. Yep, I'mtelling you next year, because the only
thing that's been off really has beenher shooting. She usually her three point
(02:10:39):
of something. You're like, man, she knows and you know that's coming
back. That's like riding a bikefor her. Yeah, she can do
that. That's coming home. Man, watch out, And you know,
you know what's real, real quickbiscuit, is that she that that's just
right now. She really still doesn'tknow what she doesn't know. It's kind
of like a rookie quarterback that's reallygood facilitating is it? The lights goes
(02:11:00):
on, it's like, oh,I know how to get you guys now,
and it's like, okay, Ifigured out. Because she's dealing with
so much stuff every night and stillexecuting it. Yeah, when she finally
says, Okay, I get this, you're gonna run it you're gonna run
me off the three point line,or she'll she because right now there's just
a little bit of non re she'sreacting. But it'll even be quicker and
more urgent next year because she justas a rookie, you're thinking, right,
(02:11:22):
you're thinking about all the things, you want to make sure, you
get your teammates involved, all thosethings. Then it'll just become a reaction
and you'll be it'll it'll the urgentdecision making will even be better. It's
already top shelf. Now. Ican't wait to watch your development. It's
pretty cool. It's like you say, Man, it's Lilma made it.
Man, it's it's gonna be myCTV. Man, she's she's gonna rewrite
(02:11:43):
the history books as far as womenbasketball. Yep, it's a real quick
Sean, though, I don't knowif I maybe I missed it or whatever.
You talked about the execs talking aboutthe top ten quarterbacks or whatever.
Yep. And Sean, my onlything, Sean, is I just to
me, let's you know, ifwe're gonna judge, and let's have an
even criteria across the board. Youknow, because a lot of times they'll
(02:12:05):
say well, we reasonably dropped himdown is because it's playoff record, meaning
Dak Prescott be like, okay, well wait a minute. Now you got
Herbert above Dak, and Dak isone more playoff game than Herbert. I
mean, you know what I mean. Yes, they wanted the goal post.
They moved the goalposts for who theylike. Okay, exactly, there's
no doubt about they've been doing itforever. Well, how many playoff games
(02:12:26):
with Herbert winning? Not very many? Right, and Herbert's a hell of
a talent, do mis understand me? But and then well somebody said,
well how many playoff games he won? And yet they're compared it to like
the Kansas City Chiefs roster. Slowdown that, you know what I mean,
Let's slow our role here when itcomes to some of the you're right,
give me if you got five criteria, then let's judge him on the
(02:12:46):
ten points for five criteria, eightcriteria and let's go. But you can't
tell me, well, one guydoesn't win in the playoff, Well,
Josh Allen didn't win in the playoffs. What's the criteria for that? And
he's a great player? There yougo. Yet, but they got an
MVP maybe it's are they more thrillingand they're not as you know what I'm
saying, because Dak's a little morejust kind of you know, vanilla when
(02:13:07):
it comes to his game. Youknow, he just reads it and doesn't
isn't flashy. I don't know whatthey judge on. I can tell you
this, though, it's not thesame for everybody. You are one hundred
percent correct. I mean Jalen Hurts, I mean things almost like dropped him
off the picture. I'm like, okay, man, he he just took
a team to the super Bowl oneseason where nobody really had their best in
(02:13:30):
Philadelphia, and it's all Jalen Hurt'sfault. Now it's his fault. Oh
yeah, it's his fault now that'syeah. Their mine defense gave up thirty
points a game. Is Jalen fault? Yeah? And they didn't get They
got like half the sacks that theynormally get from the year before, you
know, or you know a littlemore than that. It's so everybody had
a fall off, but you knowwhat, it's got to be the quarterback's
fault. It always is, right, It's got to be his fault,
right, crazy, It's great mindof coordinator all that. You know,
(02:13:54):
yep, yep, But it's Janmon'sfault because you know he's got to make
tackles on defense too, right,Yeah, sure he does. Good point,
brother, I am with you.Good stuff. Have a good weekend,
man, I appreciate it. Thereyou go, that's right. I
love it. Yeah, it's truethe criteria. If you're judging Dack on
criteria, are you not judging Herbertthe same way? I mean, I
(02:14:18):
mean, really, who do you? Who? Do you like it?
I mean, look out quickly, they've catapulted Jared Goff into the top ten.
Yeah, and he's he's playing greatplayball. But look what isn't it
weird? Look at their football team. They've got better players. Yeah,
golf's better, golf's gotten better.But is it's a real novel concept.
You have a good quarterback, Whenyou get better players, good things happen.
(02:14:39):
It's it's really weird how that howthat happens, isn't it. Let's
see the Texans added Will Smith. They've now got Daniel Hunter, they added
a quarterback and c they added ahell of a coach. Huh what huh?
They added hitch? What are youtalking about? Will Smith? Oh
yeah, he's here. Kevin Jamesis coming next next year, so you
(02:15:00):
start to think they had Oh so, it's really weird. You know that
when they add players and players stayhealthy, did the team's actually better?
Yeah? Interesting. Detroit now islike a top five team in the league,
top six team in the league.Tell me that three years ago they
wanted to run Dan Campbell out oftown for a minute. The owner stuck
with him, and now he's aCoach of the Year guy and his team's
(02:15:20):
a scary threat in the NFC.Biscuit brought up that CBS Uh, that
CBS list or the top ten quarterbackslist. Yep, I've got another quarterback
list here on CBS Sports. It'spretty Uh. The other one was like
executives and the coaches. Maybe wasn'tCBS. The CBS Sports list that I
(02:15:41):
have is predicting which quarterbacks will exceedor underperform. That was just dropped this
morning. Okay, it's pretty funny. Can't wait to hear this one.
See you think ces Shroud's on here. I think he's on there. I
bet you they're gonna put him onunderperform m M. I hope not.
(02:16:01):
I mean, I hope not tooNo. I mean, if you're the
way you're saying, it makes methink that there's something like that. They're
like way off the beaten path withthis. But hopefully there they judge him
properly. Yeah. Watch, he'sreally frigging good. Let's uh, let's
go through it next. Here onSports Talk seven ninety there's a team that
is not going to underperforming on whothat is? Sean Yeah, Fear the

Lima and Triple e Ski Tripleski.Oh, that's a new one. That's
one of the stupidest things I thinkI've ever said. Triple He deserves more
respect than Tripleski. That's a horriblenickname. Triple E is actually his nickname,
though, I know, well forus, everybody else calls him Manny.
We don't even put the respect onManny's good point. Actually, that's
what the zoids call him. Doyour boys call you manny or is it
(02:18:15):
just the zoids? No, theguys they call me that. They called
me Mannie too, Okay, Yeah, that's just it's a you're tight.
No one calls you a Manuel, right, that's yeah. Yeah, if
you're if you're you know, gettingdisciplined or something, you know, Manuel.
What's your middle name again, EdwardEmmanuel Edward. Yeah, hence the
triple E. Yeah, Manny Eddieshocking Manny edi ed ed Eddie, Yeah,
(02:18:37):
Emmanuel Edward elmore nice. I wouldimagine he don't get much trouble very
often though from mom growing up,so he Yeah, did you ever get
in trouble? Tripley? You seemlike the nicest kid ever. I did
not stayed out the way, that'snot hyperbole. I believe that. I
believe that too. So all right, let's let's let's just play a hypothetical
here. You know how we liketo do that on the Shawn Salsberg watch
(02:19:00):
what f game? You just countdown? Even the two eyes? Damn,
I get back, you know, but I'm amazed that it's almost ten
o'clock already. I was looking atthe two the the double bunker looks like
two eyes there as they're trying tochip in forty mile an hour winds.
Yeah, what were you gonna say? Let's what if the hypothetical game triple.
(02:19:20):
Let's say you did get in trouble. Who's whooping your ass? Your
mom or your dad? My mom? Yeah, Pops is probably like grandmother
if she was still living. Ohwould your grandma get get like a switch?
Yes, exactly what she would grabm man, whole school parents and
grandparents. Dude, Hey, itworked, I turned out. Okay,
I think so, I think,so think. Ain't nothing wrong with a
(02:19:45):
little semi ass whooping from a momand dad once in a while, But
a full blown ass whooping. Well, when I say semi that's what I
mean. But now now they knowyou look at your kid wrong, and
somebody will yeah, yeah, yeah, you can't you. I can't tap
him on the rear end like that. You're not allowed your ass. So
I got untended. So yesterday I'mat the Birmingham Airport and there was a
(02:20:09):
three and a half hour delay becauseI guess a bunch of bad storms rolled
here, rolled through here in thecity and excuse me. And I was
exhausted. It's a long week ofbaseball, seven six games, seven games
whatever it was in a couple ofdays. It was hot. It was
a long game, long long week. I take a nap. I find
a terminal, or I find agait that no one's using. It's like
(02:20:33):
way on the other side of theairport, and this is a small airport.
I go lay down. I gotmy hoodie, I got a neck
pillow, and I take a nap. I'm snoozing for like probably a good
hour, how because I was sotired. I'm sleeping, but I'm away
from everybody, you know what.I get woken up by two punk ass
kids running sprints, like sprinting around, chasing each other right slamming their feet
(02:20:56):
down like right by me. AndI'm in a gate where nobody's using.
And I look up, and youknow what the dad's doing, playing on
his cell phone, letting his kidsrun and scream around. I was so
pissed. If that was me,my dad's whooping my ass. He would
say, sit down. Yeah, well, here's first of all, what
(02:21:16):
wouldn't have happened. He wouldn't havebeen running through the airport in the first
place. Yeah, exactly, sohe wouldn't have had to say anything.
So, yeah, we need moreass whoopings from parents, because I was
so pissed. You do not havea one argument from one argument for me,
no, no offense. And I'mno psychologist, but I'm gonna give
you a time out. Doesn't reallywork well to too many people. And
I woke up, I stood upto stretch, and I just stared at
(02:21:37):
him, and he didn't even lookup from his phone. Yea, and
his kids are just h I'm willingto I understand shift paradigms. You never
know what those you know, they'rejust Stephen Covey's got a great chapter about
that, and his one of hisbooks, A story. I think habits
seven habits of highly effective people. But that's neither here nor there. You're
one hundred percent correct. It's likerunning rough shot. It's well, you
(02:22:00):
wouldn't have been running through that airport, right. It's frustrating. So that's
why you say F them kids.Huh. Yes, that's just another reason
I've shown a reason every day tosay F them kids. Discipline your kids,
man, you're not allowed to thesedays. Apparently, like what's his
name, Adrian Peterson, He gotin trouble for whipping his smacking his kid
around with like a tree branch orsomething right here in the Woodlands. And
I'm not mistaken for discipline his kid. Nobody. Yeah, well, I
(02:22:24):
don't know. Maybe somebody, andI know it exists at homes, but
yeah, nobody's suggesting that. Butthere's nothing wrong with this. Hey disciplined
his kid, if I'm not mistaken. One of his kids, they were
at an arcade place up in theWoodlands. One of his kids pushed the
other pushed his sibling off of themotorcycle games. Yeah, pushed the kid
off of it and hurt him.So we whooped his ass and he got
(02:22:46):
in trouble for because some random personsaw it. Yeah, there's somebody,
there's somebody out there. Everybody's gotdifferent ways to do it. Well,
times have changed. You still don'traise my kids, right, and I
didn't raise and didn't raise my dad'sIt turned out okay, trip Ley's you
know, listen, Like I said, there's a fine line discipline. There's
(02:23:07):
a big difference between the D worddiscipline and the A word abuse. And
I think we have a pretty goodidea what that line is. Yeah,
oh yeah, there's no question aboutit. Well, just to go back,
I mean, I just went withthe nicknames for this segment. Yeah,
there you go, There you go. So I'm all about discipline.
That'll never change. Speak however, you can get it in your home the
right way. Speaking of discipline,Will Anderson Junior talked about bulking up this
(02:23:31):
offseason and having that discipline. Yeah. I'm like, I think last year
I was like two forty eight andabout all we got to. Like the
Ravens game, I was just like, I just can't last. Like I
feel like I was getting tossed around. So I kind of boked up a
little this off sea to try tokeep my speed. Well I did keep
my speed, So I'm like twosixty three now I feel good. Some
people still say I don't even lookbig. So I appreciate you for that.
(02:23:56):
Yeah, I appreciate you for that. Yeah, big dog. Fifteen
pounds, which means he got itdistributed. Right. How tall is he?
About? What six? Is he? What? Six three? Somewhere
in that range, yeah, somethinglike that, and added muscle, and
he hit it perfect. When itles, the season wears along, everybody
gets tired. And when three hundredpounds at ten four, okay, yeah,
(02:24:18):
well you know I should have Ishould have known exactly. But I
stood next to him on the stageat the right, that's right. And
when he came up and shook hishand and then you introduced him. I
mean I I he looked me inthe eye. I'm six five, and
he was He's every bit of sixfour. That's it. That's exactly right.
So and what a And he carriesit well because even then he's the
(02:24:39):
best player in college football defensive Andyou're like, he wears it distributed.
You look put it this way.He looks like he weighed when he came
out of college, like two twenty. He did sinewy, right, strong
but sinewy. But that two fortywhen you when two forty looks like two
fifteen to twenty. You know, the guy's great, some granite chiseled there,
(02:25:01):
right, And then you go twoforty five or so and you're pumping
and you're throwing out two sixty threeand they think you weigh two forty.
That's good distribution of it. Butyou know what, here's what happens to
those big three hundred pounders. They'relooking for guys light in the ass.
And it's one thing to keep yourspeed. And it's not even just a
speed explosiveness. Explosiveness, but youcan't be lighting the ass taking on a
(02:25:22):
three hundred pounds in December or January. Light in the ass. And he
knows that. Yeah, And likeanything else, getting stronger the right way
and more flexible just gives him moregame as long as you're not sacrificing.
Well, you were running four tosix and now you're running four to nine
and you're not explosive, you can'tget out of your stants. Different ballgame,
but you've got to have that explosion. You're taking on guys outweighed by
(02:25:46):
fifty pounds, so now you've gotthe ability to take them on and engage
with them, but also run aroundhim and beat him to the punch and
beat him to the spot. That'sa good thing. And that to me,
that from two fifty to forty eightto two sixty somewhere and in that
range and keeping that strength and explosiveness, that's the perfect I think physique six
' four. That to me isthat that's what you look at the diction
(02:26:09):
and say, what is an edgerusher supposed to look like? That's it.
I'm anxious to see how it bots. You know, some guy's gain
weight and it's too much. They'renot flexibles. He's still got that sinewy
feel and wi are you and flexible, but you add twenty fifteen to twenty
pounds of muscle. Now that tacklewho comes out of that guard, who
pulls on the edge, you comeup and thump his ass and you're not
(02:26:31):
the one getting thumped and being knockedto the ground. Yeah, no question.
I think he felt like he wasgetting pushed around and he was the
defensive rookie of the year. That'sexactly right. And you know what,
you know, you don't have toanybody tell you. And when he thinks
he's getting pushed around, which tellsme he probably lately, that doesn't mean
for seventy plays. Yeah, thatjust means in certain circumstances, the guy
gets underneath you and gets your padlevel and he's got his hands inside you
three hundred pounds. You don't wanthim walking you around the field, right
(02:26:52):
and so, and then you don'twant to be the guy that always has
to go around people, because thenthose guys you go around people, now
you've just given them what they want. They put their foot in the ground
and get north and south and they'retaking care of there is Now at times
you got to go around him.Times you got to beat him off the
edge. And also at times thatguy's coming out on the edge, you
say no, hell no, dude. Yeah, and you got a strong
safety coming in the hole to makethe tackle, but you got to stick.
(02:27:13):
You got you gotta thump his ass. And Will Anderson, now with
fifteen twenty pounds of muscle, bringstwo hundred and sixty pounds of full grown
ass man. Different story now forguys coming out in the edge trying to
block him or even a tight endengaging with him on when you're running sweep
and he's got to engage. Nowyou can throw the guy off and still
go get your guy. It's athat's I'm not one bit worried about it
(02:27:35):
because I'm telling you, if you'dhave seen him at the Lombardie Wards and
standing there, you just said tallbig, But you know that guy who
comes in is like you say,he's a tight end, but he can
He's got room to gain forty pounds. That's him as an outside edge rushing
linebacker. So now it also allowshim to be more versatile handing the dirt
stand up. Depending on how theywant to go about it, underperform or
(02:27:58):
exceed expectation. The CBS Sports putout a quarterback list this morning. This
c J Stroud on it. Let'sdiscuss the next right here on Sports Talk
seven it. Let's also talk aboutyour total world is optimization and my team
over at Men's Tea Clinic, whichis celebrating ten years this year. When
Men's Tea Clinic began survey men acrossHouston nearly a decade ago, it really
(02:28:18):
wasn't commonplace to talk about low testosteronand there were a lot of misconception.
Many of us and some of usstill are pushing through one or all common

(02:30:11):
No, Justin Thomas is plus five. I think he was what two or
three under yesterday at one point.Yeah, he'll get you in a hurry.
So with the Texans continuing their trainingcamp this morning, our guy Aaron
Wilson NFL Insider, we have himon every Friday at eight thirty during football
season. Of course, he's outthere doing his job and there's a video
(02:30:33):
he just put up of c Jstroudapping up all his guys, right,
you know how they all have differenthandshakes together. Oh yeah, so he
went through. I think Stefan Diggswas in there, John MATCHI, let's
see a couple other guys, acouple other wide receivers, Nico excuse me,
Nico Collins, Robert Woods. Andthen he gets to one of the
(02:30:54):
times. So he's got a customhandshake with all those guys, right,
and then he gets to the Basictight end and just taps him up.
So taps him up, and that'sgotta be race. He he literally just
taps him up and then taps himon the helmet and walks away. That
(02:31:16):
that means that that's CJ's a niceway of saying, dude, you don't
have the same rhythm as a fellowsdo You're a jude done. I mean
like Stephen Simms was getting in onthe action all the brothers with CJ.
And then he taps up the whitesight and running. But you just could
just hey, hey for you justgive me a little poundt there you go.
I love it. Oh that's classic. Oh that's great. Oh that's
(02:31:41):
great. Basic white guy DApps yes, it's like shakes his hands, slaps
him on the helmet, he walksaway. There you go. That's gotta
be racist. There you go,gotta gotta be that's classic. Yeah.
They got to rememorizing the handshakes.Yes, oh yeah, that's a lot
of memorization right there. Yeah, good for them. I'm excited for these
(02:32:01):
guys this year. It's gonna befun to watch. All right. Let
me read you this list real quickfrom us. So this is the CBS,
not the general managers, coaches, front office guy, scouts is the
top ten quarterbacks are just a listof what they predicting, which NFL quarterbacks
will exceed expectations and who will underperform. Okay, what do you want?
You're going to give a name andI'll say which I think they're saying.
Then you can tell me I haven'tread it. Okay, Anthony Richardson,
(02:32:24):
uh will exceed expectations, bingo, talented kid man Bryce Young underperform exceed expectations.
I hope so. And that's theway I feel. I don't think
he did last year. He lookedlike a rookie and sometimes I was like,
WHOA, But I think their teamwill be a little better. I
expect, I would if you askme, I would expect. I still
(02:32:45):
think Bryce Young is going to bea really good player in the league,
and I expect more from him.But what are the expectations of what is
underperforming? For him? Playing likehe did last year? He has nowhere
to go but up, so that'ssmart. I agree Kirk Cousins. I
think he's going to meet expectations becausehe's going to put up just as big
enough. Well, he doesn't haveJefferson, but they got a lot of
(02:33:05):
number, a lot of weapons there. They got him exceed expectations. They
got him underperforming statistically or wins andlosses statistically. See, I think Cousins
is going to throw for four thousandplus forty five hundred yards and thirty five
touchdowns. I think he's gonna havethirty plus touchdowns. Baker Mayfield underperform.
Justin Herbert exceed expectations. They gothim in underperforming. Yeah, I disagree,
(02:33:28):
Okay, and let's go to thetwo final. Jordan love Oh exceed
expectations, Bingo got two more.Russell Wilson underperformed. They got him as
exceeding. Well. The reason whyI think he's with Mike Tomlin. Yeah,
yeah, and I could I understand. And the truth is, how
(02:33:48):
could he not be better than hehave? What? Or is that for
him? Yeah? See for me, if you're asking me, I would
I would probably say, oh,he'll exceed expectations. I got low expectations
for Russ Wilson. So what areyour where where's the where's the threshold of
what it is? I don't Ithink Russ Wilson's the bottom third quarterback in
the league right now. So whatexpectations? What's the last one? Aaron
(02:34:09):
Rodgers. I think they're gonna say, uh, does not exceed expectation,
plays below standard. So one oneanalyst for CBS Sports has him as underperforming
and the other has him exceeding. So it's kind of like the Jets.
They're sitting kind of in the sameposition. Are they going to be really
good or just yeah? Interesting?Yep. So that's that's the ones that
(02:34:30):
