Speaker 1 (00:02):
Soulsbrey Oldburysbury, Houston. Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury, there to usc true, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Sean tripley, good morning, Tic tac toe Seven in a row,
Lock down Louisiana Street or fourteen eighty seventy three, over in, Katie.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Foolscher, fourteen eighty seventy three. Yep, No, we don't live there.
I don't think that's a well. I think that's a street.
Home is where you make it fourteen sixty three. Lock
it all down them fourteen sixty three, Katie Fulscher, that's
the parade route. Play in the parade up. Maybe take
you up ten ninety three, work you over to ninety nine,

(00:55):
back down. I ten. That's a good route east, yeah,
back towards down. That's good route. Solid route. Yeah, so
I mean solid, solid route. You say, kakuci pitch well again.
Three in a row, eating up innings, getting people out,
not giving free passes, striking enough out, not giving up

(01:17):
a lot of runs. You can argue all you want,
trade great after three appearances, no brainer, Astros win the trade. Yeah,
Joey Librafdo.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Last I looked he was like three for his last
like forty with seventeen or eighteen strikeouts.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, and five years from now may have a different take.
We're talking about twenty twenty four and twenty twenty four
right now, says Astros made the right decision to make
this trade. Looks pretty good, right, that's three games in.
It looks really good. At least three starts in for him.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
He pitched extremely well again, struck out what five. Some
of my projection on shrekouts was way off, but look, man,
they won a tight ball game three to two. Shane
Boss for the Tampa Bay Ray's local kid pitched well.
Bregman is on fire.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
He hits another one, same with Jeremy Pania, and they
go for the sweep tonight and let's hope they get it.
Who's on the hill tonight is Ronelle. It's Road Blanco
yep Row in the house. Yeah, Road Blanco in the hissy.
I expect to win another sweep, back to back road sweeps.

(02:32):
And then they don't have four, right, they just have three.
They just have three because they're off off Thursday. And
then they welcome in the lowly Chicago White Socks. Oh,
two games ago, didn't they just hammer either the Mariners
or the Rangers? Who was it? They beat the breaks
off the Rangers I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
And the Mariners got their ass whooped last night by
the Tigers, like sixteen to one.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I mean, they got the Jordan fIF they got smoked,
they got curb stopped last night.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
So the Astros are up one and a half in
the AO West now, a lot of runs being scored
on the Mariners last night. And then yeah, just a
couple of days ago, the White Sox beat the breaks
off of the Rangers. You say, kakuci five and two thirds,
three hits, one and run.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Five days you said, because you say, you say, I
say I wanted that way.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I just yeah, Oh dude, we could do White Boy
Wednesday today.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
It's the Western Fine Western Wednesday. Yeah. But you say,
uh huh that he's good. Yeah, and so do I.
He's pitched pretty well. Somebody called me in and tell
me why this trade being I'm curious, Uh, let me
know why this trade wasn't worth it. Now, that's why
we say let it play out. Will he pitch better here? Oh,

(04:00):
he's having a worse He sucks in Toronto. Well, things
could change, and that's their hopeful, and things changed at
least three starts in the guy's been has put it
this way, You've far more than expected coming here, especially
by those who didn't like the trade. And if you're

(04:20):
giving me early returns, early returns are pretty simple. The
Astros made the right decision in twenty twenty four. Gives
him a better chance to win the World Series than
those three guys that they traded together. They got a
better chance to win the World Series with Kakuchi here
than those three guys together in twenty twenty four. Use

(04:43):
Kikuchi with the Astros.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Sixteen and two thirds innings pitched, ten hits, five earned runs,
six walks, twenty four strikeouts, ERA of two point seven.
In three starts with the Astros, he's won two out
of those three. I think it's I think the trade
is going well so far, and I just feel like

(05:07):
the more he goes on with the Astros, continues to
get more comfortable with this pitching staff, with his teammates,
with the guys that are working with him to perfect
his craft. If you will, he's only going to get better.
He should have easily gotten through the six inning last night, however,
there was a ball that was booted around and somehow

(05:28):
he got the urn run when it shouldn't even bend
his earned run.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
And I mean.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Look, he's had three really good starts eleven strikeouts, eight strikeouts,
five strikeouts.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Make you forget about the guys he traded real quick,
you'll won't. It's twenty twenty four, not saying that bloss
And you know Wagner got his three hits a couple
of days ago. He had two more last night with
good player. Yeah, and you're hoping that uh low Brafido
for Toronto are hoping he turns into being a star
great and I do too. I hope those guys turn
out well. But in twenty twenty four World Series, Kakouchi

(06:02):
is bringing will bring impact this franchise more than all
three of them together would have the second half of
the season. Simple and if for all the crap people
take when they make the trade, it's a turning out
so far to be a brilliant move by the by
the Houston Astros.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah, we will have an Astros General manager Dana Brown
joined the show this morning at nine thirty as the
Astros look to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Have you ever been to Tropicanafield? Nope, that'll be like
my that'll be my like the last visit of baseball
parks that I'll have to get to. It is sadly,
I say, have to to that park. I'd get to.
It's weird. It's a it's a dump. There's two places
that I'm and they're both in Florida that I'm not
that I'm not eager to go to when it comes
to baseball part I've driven by both that money. Yeah, yeah,

(06:51):
that will be like a June summer vacation where you
hit up both and you're in Florida. Put it this way,
you'll be in Florida to go to the baseball games.
Not go to Florida to go to the baseball games.
You're going to Boston, go to Fenway Park. Yeah, you're
going to Wrigley Field. You want to go see Wrigley
Field or I'm just talking about you'll schedule a vacation cup.

(07:13):
I want to go see Cincinnati. I want to go.
There's very few parks you go to, say, nah, Tampa
would be last on the list for me to want
to go to. Not because it's Tampa because it's just
that's that's not baseball there. No franchise is too good
for how many people, the lack of people that show up,
it's it's it's just so nondescript for a really good
baseball franchise in Miami. It's fine, but it's you know,

(07:37):
I've driven by it. It's got some cool. Uh, it's
got some uh you know, the stadium's pretty cool. But
I neither one of them. I yearned to go to
the ballpark. So like, for instance, fanwa it wouldn't matter
what the two records are, you just say, I haven't
seen Fenway. For Tampa. You'd want it to be the
Astros in the Rays or the Red Sox and the
Rays if you're a Red Sox or the Yank to

(07:58):
go to that ballpark. And so for me, I'm not
those will be oh yeah, gotta get them in as
opposed to oh man, you believe he went to San Francisco.
That ballpark's so is so awesome right there on the water.
You know what I'm saying. So but respect. But the
truth is in Miami's ballparks obviously a lot better than Tampa's.

(08:18):
If there's a team in pro sports that needs a
new place and a new ballpark, it's.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Them, Yeah, and they did get approved for a new one.
It's just gonna take some time. The attendance last night
said is twelve seventy five. I don't even know how
there was twelve thousand against I mean, you first placed
Houston Astro. You can hear clearly kids and fans on
the broadcast.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
It's not far away from a championship caliber team, know
they had, and they've been there for what the last
decade at least. Yeah, So for me, I I just.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
They didn't have the third deck open last night Steve Sparks.
Steve Sparks and Robert Ford were talking about they had
it marked off with like the blue tarts. How do
you even have twelve thousand?

Speaker 4 (09:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Just their fan base reminds me of Oakland's fan base,
Like no one goes these games, And I assure you,
you'd rather go to Oakland's ballpark. Yeah, I'd rather go
to the Coliseum than than Tropic.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
You get good music. And I think since the beginning
of since sometimes July or August, it was the best record
in baseball, Like, I mean the Oakland A's have been
raking and winning and they won again. I think last
night they did. Yeah, so they did. But that ballpark,
the music when it's popping like a day game stuff
is pretty awesome. It's just we we know all the

(09:35):
stuff that's going on in Oakland right now with them,
you know, with them moving to Vegas, and they should,
but uh, that's the last ballpark. Tampa will be the
last one that I you know, unless you're there at
Florida before any to knock them out, but they're the last.
That's the last ballpark on my mind to get to.
And in covering them all, it's not a good ballpark.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Like, first of all, it's a pain in the ass
to get to, and then when you finally get there,
I mean it's it's like the what's the concourse level,
like the the hallways or the main narrow Yeah, and
it's just it's not And then of course you got
the stupid ass roof right it's built on a slant
as well.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
It's just it's just not a good ballpark. It sucks, man.
I'll pass until it's one that closes out. Visiting all
the ballparks, yeah, I know, those are part of it. Uh,
Texas Rangers. Obviously they got beat They've lost three in
a row. They're nine and a half back now in
the Al West. They fell apart quick. It looks like
you can stick a fork in them. Why huh why

(10:36):
why did you put a fork in them? Why would
I put a fork in them? Yeah, Rangers? Hell, because
they're because they're done. They're they're not getting No. I
meant like, because you put a fork and meat, you know, yeah,
stick a fork in them, because they're done. I don't
put the stick a fork in them and win in
the division. And at nine and a half out the

(10:57):
wild cards so mudy, they're gonna have to go on
some Hello, some kind of hella role hella roll You
feel me? Do you say hella hella hella roll? That's hell,
that's hella roll doll. Yeah exactly. But then also you
can say hella like hello, but yeah hello, yeah, in
your what your brit voice? Yeah exactly. I'm counting on

(11:19):
the fact that, uh, it's become a two horse race
in the America West.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Oh, by the way, Josh had got his twenty six
straight save. Yeah, nice, one inning, no hits, no runs,
one k.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
It's Joshua. Yeah, it's josh hater. Don't don't be a
player hater. That's right. I mean, I do exactly what
you mean. Oh Man.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Got a lot of NFL start to get into today
as well. Injuries, galory, yeah, Hassan Redick, drama.

Speaker 4 (11:49):
JJ McCarthy out for a minute with torn meniscus.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Fox just put out their their top ten ranking for
teams in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Do you think the Texans made it? Who knows? So
you got some football to talk, yeah, man, Sam Donald
getting rejuvenated in Minnesota, getting his start in Minnesota's cooked
well that division, man, Yeah, pretty good division. Good Detroit.
Detroit's gonna win that division. Should they should They're the
best team.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yeah, I mean there's uh yeah, there's some there's also
uh I saw Demico Ryans was asked about why he
has his team playing in the extreme heat, practicing the extreme.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Heat, not being I'm not no, I'm not so we're
going to take practice off because hot?

Speaker 5 (12:38):
Yeah, he was that.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
He was literally asked, why do you practice mid day
in the extreme heat?

Speaker 4 (12:48):
Oh Man, we played midday in the extreme heat. Mayo Mayod,
new head coach of the Patriots, He had some interesting
things to say at their camp.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, man, I got I got love. I'm more loaded today.
Hould the mail for a minute, Yeah, exactly right. Yeah,
speaking of male Will Levis putting out a Mayo based
cologne because you know, he's a weirdo with his Mayo.
That makes me horny, especially at six six fourteen, Yeah,
fourteen in the morning. Yeah, I mean, who doesn't want

(13:20):
to smell Mayle to just blow chow?

Speaker 4 (13:23):
You know what I'm saying. Yeah, discussed and I like mail,
but as a cologne. Yeah, that's the quickest way to
get yourself alone. Also got some college stuff to go through.
Paul fine Bomb talked about the twenty twenty four season.
Joel Klatt getting in the mix as well. Yeah, just
calls versatile up, stand up and clat your hands. Oh yeah,

(13:43):
let's okay, Yeah, all right, will you Doug. We're gonna
keep talking Astros because Alex Bregmant is on fire. They
beat the Rays last night. Let's talk about an next
On Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Ninety, The Sean Salisbury Show continues on your Roku. It's
a Sports Talk seven night on any device with our
free iHeart radio app.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
Johann her Diaz played first base last night, a little
little run over at the dit i you got from
behind the dish and with the first base, I like
it moving some bodies around. Huh. You know what I'm saying.
Oh yeah, you gotta you gotta move, move around the
You just giving around, getting yourself trying to find the

(14:28):
exact right combo each night. How's that for analysis? He's good,
It's good. Yeah, oh man, big win though. It really
is those wins that you go and it's close and
they score a run to get it close to and
then you close it out. Those are important wins. Yeah,

(14:49):
they really are. And it's seems like whenever you play Tampa,
you gotta you gotta, you know, slug it out a
little bit. And I'm talking about not not as punchers,
but as uh as boxers and hit him in a
rib k move around a little stick and move because
it's hard to knock them out. So it's just always
been that way with Yeah, always like the nat at
the barbecue, they just don't go away, ye, Alex Bregman
last night. For the person you don't want there at

(15:10):
the barbecue, they too, Yeah, somehow they were invited, yeah,
or they just showed up Bregman last night three for
five with a home run. In August, he's sitting three
sixty seven on base of four to zero four, slugging
a seven to seventy six. That's an ops of one
point one seventy nine, and that four straight games a
home run.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
That is four straight with a home run. He also
has a one two, three, four, five six seven eight
game hitting streak as well.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Nice, that was just a home run is what you
call not a bomb though, right, Yeah, that was just
a home run, So it's a breggy home run, not
a BA. It wasn't a breggy bomb. I mean you
consider it a bomb. The line drive, yeah, you know, Yeah,
barrels it up a little bit, gets out in front
of it, pulls it down left field lot, you can fall.

(16:00):
I forget about it. It's usually how it sounds. Yeah,
comes your way next. It's huge that he's playing such
good football, such good football. So I'm just sender to
stare at a football highlight, such good baseball. We know
he never waivers at defense, you know, playing defense, but
he sure A hot bat's really nice at this time,
and especially a bat that's got power. That's what you're

(16:22):
looking for. What's he up to now? And the teams
for home runs?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Let's see he is he's got nineteen there you go, wow,
fifty nine RBIs excuse me, seven to seventy ops on
the season two sixty three average man. Remember when he
was in like two hundred at one.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Point I do then arise and that typical of his season.
So he always is the warmer it gets the better
he play. Always if he didn't have a slow start,
the guy, the guy'd be MVP candidate every year. Yeah,
he really would, because he always puts these numbers up
after like we just spot him a month of well,
you're not going to play very well offensively. Here was

(17:00):
a little longer. So, but that's good. He When you
continue to hear like Steve Sparks and Dana Brown talk
about the guy that's got to go for us as Bregman,
it's it's kind of bore itself out as far as
when he's going good. This team just keeps it, just
rides it, don't they. But yeah, let's not forget the guys.
The way that the staff is pitching right now, and.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
He's going to uh, he's gonna really enjoy playing for
the Boston Red Sox next season.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
I mean, if you're gonna go anywhere, might as well
be there. I mean, if you're gonna go anywhere, it
might as well be to Fenway Park. Do you think
they do? You think?

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Look, first of all, they're not gonna offer him anything
more than a five or six year contract.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
We know that.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
And the money, I mean the money that he's gonna
probably want with Scott Boys, this is a big I
know we're a little bit away from the offseason, but
this is a big offseason for Scott Boris because he
did not do well with his free agents last year.
These all these one and two year deals with with
player options and things like that, and he did not

(18:03):
get the big money like he expected. This is a
big offseason for him because he's got some guys that
are going to be free agents that he's got to
get paid, like the big time money that they're used
to getting and bragmant I would, I would say is
probably his biggest one.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Well, if not, he's in the I don't know who's available.
I haven't talked much about who becomes a free agent,
but that's he's in the team photo. I can tell
you that in the way he's playing. We have memories
always seem to be recency bias, right, and he has
played really well at the right time for the Astros.
And he's going to get offered a lot of money,

(18:40):
whether he chooses to take a little less and stay here,
which is probably what it's going to take if he wants,
if he loves it to the point of being here.
But if the money is so significantly, so much and
so much more significant elsewhere, you leave. That's just that.
That's the way it works in pro sports. You guys
go get more money. I don't know what that threshold is. Well,
if they're within two million a year, I'll stay here.

(19:02):
But do you think two million a year over twelve
of six years, that's twelve million bucks. That's still twelve
million dollars. Regardless you make one hundred or three hundred,
still twelve million dollars. So I don't know where his
mindset is on that. I'm sure he'd love to be here,
but if somebody blows the offer out of the water,
he'll be playing somewhere else. And if Devers is willing
to move off third base and play first base or

(19:22):
DH most of the time, then I'm sure that that
Boston would love to have him play in the hot
corn because if he does go there, he ain't playing
anywhere but third base, right, that's where he will be, Right,
it'll be Devers because of the glove. Devers would be
the one moving. But you have both those bats in
the lineup. Pretty formative. That is pretty formidable. I think
Bregnan's going to getree undred million, and it's not going
to be here, not for siventy years. He's not. They

(19:44):
can't afford it. I mean, how you gonna afford that? Will?

Speaker 3 (19:47):
You got a Braves contract on the books, still got
Montero's contract on the books.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
Like, that's a lot. That's a hefty price right there.
With thirty million years six times as a buck eighty right.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
The year.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Eight times is gives you what somewhere in that range? Yeah,
sounds about ray and getting three hundred for ten. No,
I can't, I can't imagine never. No, I mean not here,
he's not, no, no, But in the thirty million year range,
when you look around the you know, Devers, Arnatto the

(20:24):
best players in the Yeah, they're getting between thirty and
thirty five. He'll be in that range. Yeah, and probably rightfully,
so right in baseball terms. Yeah, I just don't know
if it'll be here. It's not going to be here.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
That's not for that price, No, not at all. Seven
one three, two, one two five seven. And he got
some gentlemen that want to get in and talk about
these Ashros. We'll get to them next. We also have
to look at you, say, Kukuchi and that trade. He's
been pretty good over these last three starts. After coming
to the Houston Astros. We'll discuss anxcellent sportslock.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Seven eighty.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Talk to you the Astros fans, John,
good morning.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Hey, good morning, Hey. I got a couple of things
for you.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
The way that the Dodger signed O'tani, could the Astros
do the same thing with Bregman, Tucker Valdez and basically
just pay them two dollars a year until the other
money falls off on the other guys that we owe
money that were in the hold on and then pay
their contracts in Because what the Dodgers did for Otani,

(21:28):
that pretty well opened up Pandora's door right there on
how to pay these athletes if they want to stay here.
And then question number two is there a polite way
of asking Dana Brown, why in the hell is McCormick
still in this lineup that can't throw from the outfield

(21:49):
and right now is having a horrible time at the plate?

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Is there any nice way.

Speaker 7 (21:55):
Of asking him?

Speaker 8 (21:56):
Or do you just have to just come right out
and ask him?

Speaker 5 (21:58):
What the hell are you guys doing?

Speaker 6 (22:00):
So I'll just hang up and listen to you guys,
and you guys are smarter than I am, and figure
this thing out with that old Tony because I'm telling
you the dogs has opened up the door on that one.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Don Realistically, yes, they could do that type of contract.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
I just don't see Jim Crane doing that and the
player would have to agree to it as well.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Right, every backlog, everything deferred, all that money.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
The question is do you want to pay it regardless?
Do you want to pay that kind of money? Because
if you do it once then everybody else is going
to say, well, I want for your other stars. Sure, yeah,
and you have to get a two way street where
you know some are willing to you know, backload it
or defer it or do those things that I am listen.
If you can do it with Otani, you can do
with anybody, right, the question is how do you structure

(22:47):
it and within the legalities of the collective bargain agreement
with the player and the ownership thinks as far as
asking Dana Brown, yeah, I think there's more than a
polite way. Uh. And and I think that mixing that
in is quite possible. I don't I don't think it's
I don't think it's disrespectful to say we've asked how

(23:08):
much more come? I can remember asking point blank, how
much more run can you give a Bradie that's about
his between the eyes is? I mean? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (23:15):
And so McCormick's chas McCormick is hitting barely two hundred,
he's sitting two o two.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
Sadly, he's become a detriment to the lineup. Yeah, and
I don't mean that disrespectful. Is just a fact.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Yeah, this year he's not talking about right now. Yeah,
this year and right now he is terrible quite frankly,
right now you can't play him. No, No, it's he
I mean, yeah, asking is easy. How he answers, it
will be his decision.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Yeah. See seven seven, Damian, welcome in.

Speaker 7 (23:45):
I appreciate job. Question man, I just sitting here watching
watching you on here. Uh, it kind of and I
don't want to open old Sword, but it kind of
makes you wonder, what the hell up? I can say, hell,
what was he thinking with this guy last year? I
kind of feel like he may have cost us in

(24:06):
the World series, Like, I mean, I saw something I
don't know, I forget what I saw it on Like
he's hitting what a nine hundred ops right now? So
I'm just wondering, man. And another thing is why I
let you go? What what are the astros gonna do
when Tucker comes back? Are they just going to slide
him right in there and and and move and move

(24:26):
yn here around or I'm just wondering, man. But I
listen to you guys.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
Thank you, Damien Oh. I think that the way I mean,
Yan is going to be in the middle of that order.
You know, Jordan's going to stay at three, so Hei,
there's a four or five hole depending on where the
comfort level of Tucker is. And I think that's pretty obvious.
I think that's even if Tucker comes back, right if
he's back. But Diaz has been raking and almost feels

(24:51):
like he loves the accountability of being in the middle
of the lineup, right, Yeah, a four hole or and night. Yeah,
he's he's been everything is that advertised? As far as
last year, I know that there's the the argument about Dusty.
I don't think it was Mauldana of the cost him
a World Series against the Rangers. They lost pitch. They

(25:11):
lost two games at home, right right, They couldn't hit
at home and they couldn't pitch. Yet, I mean, with
all that cost to wardsers, yet they were a game win,
a one win away at home from being in the
World Series. And I got news for it. They're beating Arizona.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Yeah, the Alcs was the world no, no question.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
So they're beating as much respects after Arizona. I got
news for it. The Astros were beating Arizona just like
the Rangers did. But so I know the listen, we
all had the complaint of why is he playing? We
know the reason. He trusted his leadership and wanted him
to handle the pitching staff. And in truth, unfortunately at
the end they didn't get the time to hit. But

(25:48):
the pitching staff did not pull through, and they you
hear at home in the two games, and they were
in a position to grind like crazy at the end
because they had to fight and scratch to get in
the playoffs, so a lot of energy and I get listen,
I think we can all admit that is was the
better player. Yeah, the question is we don't know what

(26:09):
goes on in the conversations and pitching staff, of the
pitching staff saying I want mald to not we we
You're not going to embarrass the teammate out loud, but
how those conversations are had, who their comfort level is.
And you know, Dusty's part of his greatness is he's stubborn.
Part of the down part of the the stuff that
drives you crazy is he's stubborn. That's the way. It
isn't a lot of good coaches and players. But I

(26:30):
think that I don't think if is in the lineup
at home, I don't think that's the difference in one
of the World Series. You got to get out of
first innings, second ads, you got to you gotta pitch well.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
I think, and we talked about this a lot last year.
It wasn't the fact that Maldonada was behind the plate.
It was that the fact that Dusty would not put
Yer in the lineup anywhere. Yeah, just we we kept saying, yeah,
just get his bat in there. Somehow there's a hit
the kid. There's no doubt that part of it was
a mistake. Yes, Yet you saw early on this season
and what we were a.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
Lot of people saying, you know, we miss leadership, and
Maldonado's name kept popping up even as good as dz is.
So it's hard. I understand the stubbornness. I get it,
but I but listen, we all wanted ds but I'm
not sure down the stretch, Diz was the reason the
Rangers won the World Series. The lack of DEAs that
makes sense, yeah, in my opinion, right, But I guess

(27:23):
that comes down to this year. If you can't pitch
DZ's bat won't matter. The way they're pitching now, dz
Is bat's going to be a monster. Yeah, so far,
how to get people out, and that's what they're doing.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
In August, janer Diez is hitting three thirty three on
base of three eighty eight, slugging a five eleven. That's
a ops. Right at eight ninety nine, its almost a
nine hundred ops. He's been really good in August. I
mean he's he's let's see right now, he's hitting three
oh one. Yeah, he's sitting for the season. He's hitting
three oh one, twelve bombs, sixty seven RBIs in a

(27:56):
seven seventy eight ops.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
And a lot of that from the catcher's position, Yes,
which is impressive to be that high an average as
your full first full season starting as a you know,
I know he's been at different positions, but as your
starting catcher, the catcher of the present and the future,
I think it's impressive. With the way he swings the bat,
and he went through that lull where he was waving
at everything right about a month and a half, two

(28:18):
months agoere he was like, what are you doing, dude?
Is that second? Then now they figured you out. He's
got more disciplined, They move him up, they trusted him more,
and what did you do. He's validated that trust by
hitting three hundred plus and you've got power there and
he is a real factor in the middle of the lineup. Yeah,
last night, I mean I like the lineup for the
most part last night. With JANR.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Diaz over at first base, obviously you got to got
to figure out what to do between Jake Myers and
Chas McCormick. I know, both of them had hits. But
I mean as of late, both those guys have been struggling. However,
the other parts of the lineup have been really succeeding,
so they're continuing to win ball games. It's just down
the strets. Those two guys are gonna I mean, depending

(28:58):
on Contarck are coming back. I mean, I don't know.
And I love Victor Carrottini in the lineup as well.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
So my idea getting DS rest is d H and
him are put in first base, not catching him. I
need him in the I need his bat in the
lineup most of the time. I just do yeah. And
then I don't know.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
I mean who maybe you put Jordon. Maybe Jordan is
going to see more games in left field. I wouldn't
mind that, just because of how poorly Chas McCormick has hit.
Same with Jake Myers. I mean, you're gonna have Jake
Myers the centerfield because of his defense.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
If you really want to do it the right way,
I mean, if you really want to do it, Carotini
and Diaz are in the lineup with Jordon and left field,
whether it's one at first base and one dhing one
and if if you really want that's in it. Carotene
is a better hitter than both in my opinion, if

(29:49):
they played, if they all had five hundred bats, I
believe Kartini's averages higher than both Myers and mccorny. I
would agree with that as well. So when you get
right and he knows he can catch, he can play
first base, he can DH, soaken Yannerda and we know
the big fella can play d H and play left field.
If you really need runs in a win, all three
of them probably need to be in the lineup more

(30:10):
often than not. Then if you're the way you replace
McCormick or Myers, depending on if you don't want their
bat in the lineup, you simply move yourd on to
the left field and then you the more and then
you do whatever you got to do. And whether that's
Singleton and carrotteeny at first base, shuffle, whether it's rotation
of three as well, then that's fine. But I can

(30:33):
tell you this, when all is said and done, dis
if you ain't catching, I need him at first base
or d H, I need his bat in the lineup. Yeah,
it's it's listen. We're at the point now, and maybe
a day off once in a while. But the truth
of the matter is his day off is when he's
d h in my opinion, yea, get him off, get
out of the cree Yeah you do, and break all right,
let's let's get to break in.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
We will continue to talk about these Houston ass's here
from a manager. Joe of Spotty talked about you say,
Kakuchi's outing, that's right here on Sportstok seven ninety. Before
we get to that, let me tell you about getting
yourself a home generator from Brotherly Love Electric.

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Storm season is here.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
Do not get left in the dark like we all
had to go through during Hurricane Barrel.

whoa now and need a home generator. No, get ahead
of it because we know the power is going to
go out here in the city of Houston. Three four
six seven seven seven three three seven zero. Ask for
Nathan King or Daniel Hopper when you call that number,
get a free quote and get yourself an American made
Briggses Tretton home generator from brother the Love Electric.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Let the celebration start. War Sean Salisbury to Shawn Salisbury show.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
So were you for subcome from its corn bread and chicken?
Where I got from its tiketos and guacaboli and let's
go right. Yeah, Roberto's great Mexican hole in the wall.
Right you feel me?

Speaker 5 (32:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Yeah? Where you come from? What is it? Uh? Where
you come from? It's like steak and baked potatoes. Yeah right, yeah, exactly, yeah,
London broil and steak more like it was more like
hamburger helper. Sounds very steak and a lean cuisine or
something like that. I said cornbread, you said, I said,

(33:13):
do you like cornbreak? I said you eat cornba? You
go no, Yeah, I said, you don't like cornbreak like
corn bread? But I said, do you eat cornbread? He
said no, And I said, well, what about cornbread with
like a little butter and honey on it when it's hot?
You said no. You said, what are you different? And
I said no, I like cornbread, but just corn hot
corn bread with butter and honeys off the hook. And

(33:36):
he said, well I eat it with chili. Well then
you like cornbread? Yeah my chili? Right okay? With no beans?
According to right chili? Do you put beans in your chili?
I do both once in a while, just depends. Yeah,
I think you can do both. You have the right
beans but I'm a big spice guy, and I had
a little bit, a little And I know a lot
of people do brown sugar. If you hot spice had

(33:57):
a little brown sugar, it brings up both makes sense.
But anyway, I digress. Yes, sometimes beans, but sometimes not.
Just depends. I think you can do both if you
do it right. But corn breads with chili. But you
can eat corn bread anytime you want. Yes, I don't though,
just with my chili. And why did you why did
you scoff? Good word right, scoff at me for saying

(34:21):
I like honey on my corn bread. Sometimes it's just,
you know, it's a little different. I don't think it is.
I think that's part for the course. Tripley Do you
eat uh corn bread with honey sometimes? Sometimes?

Speaker 3 (34:32):
Okay, I could have said, but butter honey. I've noticed
something about you guys, y'all too, same thing. Yeah, y'all know,
y'all Just get on, y'all, just get on the let's
let's uh, let's throw strays at.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
The fact is if you like corn bread and honey,
then why is that getting o the safe? Yeah, we
are the same because we both like corn bread and honey.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
I could I could ask Triple if you liked mayonnaise
on his on his corn bread?

Speaker 4 (34:56):
And that is gross? Yeah, that's nasty.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
Yeah, saying you guys like to team up, you know
straight bullets.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
Corn bread or cone bread? Cone? It's n corn bread. No,
it's conebread and that corn bread, that cone bread? Why
are you making fun of? Why do you make it?
How do ni? Why do why are you making fun of?

Speaker 8 (35:23):
That?

Speaker 4 (35:23):
On West Winston? That sound like Blake Shelton. Well there's
a there's a neon light at the.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
End of the tunnel. You think Blake Shelton eats corn bread? Yes,
I can guarant ask t well. Luke Bryan, Oh dude,
well he makes corn broad his wife or him make cornbread.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
He just dumps his face in it. He just jumps
making a damn thing. Mommy. He may be out there
having catching some some bird or something for him, but
just throw that cone bread in there.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Did you ever hear Luke Bryan when he shot a deer?
I think it was a deer and like his reaction
is he like is he down? Is that you never
heard it?

Speaker 8 (35:56):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (35:56):
My god? Okay, I'll nation Luke Brian, Jerry Joes, Oh no, no, no,
it's bad. It was his first buck. No, I don't
know what it is, but it's bad. It is really really,
really really bad. Okay, Luke Lucas Bryant dog. So have
we decided cornbread? Yes or no?

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Your nice from life good good reference right there, Tripley.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
So it is and you tried to call it cornbread? No,
you know what I'm saying, Triple Oh here we get
cone bread dog cone No? No, yeah it is conebread?
Are cornbread? Right now? It is? It is absolutely hilarious.
Are you slide into his dms? No? Yeah, tell you

(36:47):
what slid in the first place? DM. Like that. As
Tripley gets that audio, let's say, let's take take Roger,
Roger Roger? What's Roger?

Speaker 8 (36:57):
And what's going on?

Speaker 9 (36:58):
Guys?

Speaker 10 (36:59):
To chill out on it?

Speaker 11 (37:02):
You got me one of the Ya got me wishing
for the dead of winter man every every year about
ten years. Ready to do the venison and lampshall.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Good stuff there, like it's a halloween. You gotta have
some chili, some cone bread, you feel me?

Speaker 7 (37:16):
Right?

Speaker 12 (37:18):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Yeah, I to chill Mann.

Speaker 8 (37:19):
Pump the brakes on that.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
A little too hot for chili, now that's right. I
got you for sure.

Speaker 5 (37:26):
He but I was talking about that brigman.

Speaker 11 (37:28):
Uh, that guy filled my thunder and maybe a creative
contract to get this guy back into in the pole,
because what team's gonna absorb two months of uh you know, uh,
you know, just bad hitting for pregnant and then you know,
go moving forward. You know, I just think Pastors are
the best team to resign him.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
So Roger, I think that'd be a great eye if
they could structure it right, get him paid, keep him happy.
And you know, this team has been used to his
slow start, so they can tiller. That's a good point,
by your creativity may be the way to keep him.

Speaker 11 (38:05):
Yeah, because Jim Crane evolves.

Speaker 8 (38:07):
He he you know, he sees the he sees the
horizon line.

Speaker 10 (38:10):
He's not gonna just stay to his guns. He's got
to understand the baseball changes.

Speaker 8 (38:14):
He's got to move with it too.

Speaker 11 (38:15):
So I was just thinking of, you know what, that
that that old Towny's trade did open up some doors
for for for creativity and more and more slack on
the rope as far as contracts are concerning.

Speaker 8 (38:26):
So I really think he did.

Speaker 5 (38:27):
They need to see this and focus on.

Speaker 11 (38:29):
It and and and move forward. And and and and
you know, be a part of it and not not
get stuck down and and and and and uh you know,
just be the Jerry Jones and do your own thing.
I just yeah, Yeah, he's been successful, he's stay successful,
and he's got a team of people that are that
are winners around him, so he knows what's going on.
I just have that feeling that he might he might

(38:49):
stick around with us, and that would be good because
aside from aeronauto and normal Aernato, I think that Greg
is just some best defensive tradition out there. And uh,
as far as Chad McCormick I made, he might have
done his last rite with that that play in the
outfield metaphorica is speaking as far as he's playing times.
Because then I was just I was excusable. We just
looking at that ball just come down at his feet.

(39:10):
And then that guy, that guy just wanted a second basement.
Okay you want to small asleep, Okay, I'll.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Take second base.

Speaker 13 (39:17):
All right, guys, all I had to see I have
a good one.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
Appreciated Roger Roger and then this is, uh, here we go.
Is he down? He just chilling?

Speaker 14 (39:27):
Is he down?

Speaker 4 (39:28):
Hell?

Speaker 8 (39:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (39:30):
Absolutely freaking Johnny.

Speaker 4 (39:33):
Is he down?

Speaker 5 (39:34):
Hunter?

Speaker 4 (39:35):
Is he down?

Speaker 14 (39:37):
Is he down? Is he down? Did you see him
go down? Did you see him go down? Did you
see him go down? Did you see him go Did
I smok him? Did I smoking?

Speaker 11 (39:58):
So?

Speaker 4 (39:58):
I need to hear Lucas Brian breathing in. Is he down?

Speaker 12 (40:01):
He is?

Speaker 4 (40:03):
That can't be true? It's true? Hunt showers, yes, but
like the video is even worse. But he was like
he's like shaking, like this was he but he was
Saturday morning.

Speaker 12 (40:13):
Hunt.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
Yes, and he's up in a stand so he got
himself and he's got like the EyeBlack on. He's decked
out and camo and he's like he's literally shaky, sitting
there in a blind and knocked it knocked down the
buck and he said, is it Dan? And I'm talking
like shaking, He's like he is, He's day. I thought
that was fake. That's real. That's dead ass real, Hunt,
that's how did I smoke him? Did smoke? That's real?

(40:38):
Swear man cone bread And they've made they've made fun
of this, like I mean I missed this is he?
It's bad man? This was from I believe like twenty
twenty one. You don't know what he wanted to know
if he did smoke him? Did I smoke him? We

(40:58):
gotta say that when somebody gets tackled, did I smoke?
Oh my gosh, Next time sid he makes one of
those hits like you know, it's like, you know, like wow,
like when you see uh uh ice cube of damn
on the porch, you know when they do that, that
that gift. I gotta see what is Lucas doing. He's

(41:23):
a nut job dude, He's all paid it up. Look
at him, camouflaged face. He's ready to go years years.
Did I smoke? Did I smoke? What happened? Oh my gosh?

Here's a skipper good good I thought.

Speaker 17 (45:32):
He you know, he slider used his breaking balls again
very efficiently again today.

Speaker 4 (45:37):
You know he throws the ball really well.

Speaker 17 (45:38):
He goes attacked his own Him and him and Vic
are on, uh, you know, well connected right now.

Speaker 4 (45:44):
They're really really good performance. Thanks, Joe appreciated dog him
in performance, attacks the zone. Come on, come on, what
else you wants?

Speaker 13 (45:54):
Him?

Speaker 4 (45:54):
And Vic? He called him Vic? Yeah, Vic Cartin Vic.
They uh, they're really on the same page. I mean
he said he attacks the zone and he's pitching really good.
He used he said, he uses slider. Yeah, use a
change up, little slide piece, a little change up, really
making it in nice? He said, Yeah, we pitched well,
attacking the zone. You have to attack the zone. You

(46:17):
know what I'm saying. What what what do you think
you're gonna get from a coach?

Speaker 3 (46:23):
You know, like manager to talk about the pitch sequence
and talk about how he's done since he's come here,
talk about the changes they've they've implemented with him. Give
us something more in depth, A little something something, Yeah,
a little some something.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
You know what I'm saying. Dog, little corn bread with honey.
You may get some corn bread, but not just not
just dry corn bread. You're getting it. You're not getting
it soft and piped up hot with some melted butter on.
His responses are like dry brisket still works, You still
eat some, You still eat it. You just wish there

(46:55):
was a little more moisture to it, right, Yes, moist
is a bad word.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
You don't like moist. You said this is twice now
last two weeks. Yeah, you've dropped that word.

Speaker 4 (47:05):
What do you call it? Fresh? Uh? Sultry? What are
we calling it? If it's not so? You want me
to look up synonyms for moist. No, I'm just thinking
about what's a good I mean, oh man, it was
so moist tender.

Speaker 3 (47:18):
There you go, there you go. Yeah, yeah, that's a
probably tender brisket.

Speaker 4 (47:22):
When I say tender, your eyes light up like like
your dating site, like I'm talking about it. That's tender.
Oh tender? Yeah, not tender? Oh ones with an eye
ones with the correct Yeah? Okay, which one do you
cop a feel on? Both? Really?

Speaker 7 (47:36):
Well?

Speaker 4 (47:36):
I mean, if you have tender brisket, you caught a
feel on the meat. But whoa what it's brisket and
then tender you go on a date, right?

Speaker 2 (47:44):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (47:44):
Yeah, some some do. I haven't been on tender since
twenty fourteen. Which ones with that's with a tender with
an eye correct? Yeah, not the tender juicy? I got juicy.

Speaker 4 (47:54):
What what do you think about the word juicy? Juicy
is better than moist?

Speaker 12 (47:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (47:57):
Okay, yeah, I got you back to Espada. Yeah, thanks, Joe,
appreciate it, buddy. Listen. Yeah, he's pitched. Well, he's attacking
the zone. Okay, you can't get caught up. Coaches don't
tell you anything. They don't even know why. Yeah, I
don't even know why. I expect anything. I can tell
you that the ones that do people. Oh, can you

(48:20):
believe he said that? Then you got to deal with
those answers. So you stay there, you stay generic, and
nobody can Yes, thought, pitch well, you attacked the zone
through a slider. Yeah, makes a little change, a little
change up. And piece is a change piece or slide piece?
Slide piece and change change up? Just change up. Slide
piece is the only other one. You're really really down

(48:43):
on postgame press conferences right now, I guess I realize
how how like stereotypical responses you wanted to say boring?
You could say that. I was gonna say boring. Yeah,
you're allowed to say that. You're not saying just his
baseball responses boring?

Speaker 3 (48:55):
Yeah, oh yeah, you pitchy pitch well, well, what would
you like him to tell you everything? No, not everything.
I just want to hear from the manager. I want
better here. Yes, did somebody ask why is he better here?
Or do they say? What about this game? They probably asked?
And again we trip Dana Brown, why he's better here
than he wasn't?

Speaker 4 (49:13):
Trug?

Speaker 3 (49:14):
And I know Dana Brown's gonna tell us that's coming
up at nine thirty this we.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
Say Toronto or Toronto? Do you get the tea in
there at the hard punch on the team Toronto or
do you say Toronto Toronto like t O R O
and I just call it the six big Dog six.
That's the home drake. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
Yeah, apparently he's a resident in Texas. Now, saw he's
got like a Texas.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
I D big old spread. Yeah. We've already discussed this
all the way out towards Washington. Poughkeepsie. That's a Poughkeepsie.
That's what's it about this? Yeah, a million times with
the name of that straight out out there, headed out
that way towards A and m R.

Speaker 18 (49:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:54):
Yeah, it's he passed Prairie View, isn't that? Yes, it's
right there like by him stead.

Speaker 4 (49:59):
Yeah. You want me to find it again? No, okay,
it's okay, all right? Fine?

Speaker 1 (50:05):
Is he down?

Speaker 4 (50:07):
I'm gonna forever remember this, Luke Brian, Is he down?

Speaker 5 (50:10):
Talk? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (50:11):
Ashos are a game and a half in front, correct
since last September? Yeah, September eighteenth of last year. Man
that they've been a game and a half in front.
The first time they're looking back as opposed to looking forward, right,
throughout this whole Golden era of baseball? Can you believe
that September eighteenth the last time of last year? September

(50:32):
eighteenth to twenty twenty three is the last time the
Astros had a one and a half game lead in
the division. What a what a season? Wow? What a
what a crazy ass season?

Speaker 13 (50:42):
So far?

Speaker 4 (50:42):
Pretty nuts.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
Let's get to Andy before we get to the stakeout. Andy,
good morning.

Speaker 13 (50:47):
Yeah, you could probably afford Tucker and Brickman, but you've
just been making these bad contracts. You know, you got
nineteen plus million for a break who next year he
got fifteen million from Montero. You got seventeen million for
last mccollors. Hey, if you guys had to guess since
mccullor's contract, how much you think he gets paid per

(51:10):
inning after that contract, the innings that he's put up
since that contract.

Speaker 4 (51:17):
It would I would have no idea.

Speaker 13 (51:21):
Well, let me tell you, I had to find out
two hundred and fifty six thousand dollars a inning.

Speaker 4 (51:27):
It's a good gig. You can get it.

Speaker 7 (51:30):
To hunt.

Speaker 13 (51:31):
You know, time I look back and I looked at
his injury history, injured elbow problems and next problems missed
the full season. Why did they give him that big
decision that many years?

Speaker 4 (51:47):
I honestly don't have any I can't answer that for you,
my man. Potentially potential, potential lifetime, what they've seen. I'm
just telling you. I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong.
You asked me why they do it. That's to be
the reason I got it.

Speaker 13 (52:02):
I got potential, but not with injuries and potential understand
because yeah, I mean that was a horrible contract. It
was just it was because of his injury history, and uh,
you know that's what happens when that's how dynasties fall apart,
is when they started having bad contracts. That's very I

(52:26):
think the Astros what fourth or fifth and in salary
this year. Therefore, I knew it was up there. So
it's either Tucker or Brickman. I don't think it can
be both.

Speaker 4 (52:40):
I don't think it's gonna be both either, and it's
going to be Tucker if they both come to I think.

Speaker 13 (52:46):
Here's the thing about Tucker Hell, I'm worried about the
guy's health.

Speaker 4 (52:51):
I understand a bone Bruce.

Speaker 13 (52:53):
Hell, next thing, you know, he's gonna have bone cancer.
I mean, my goodness, what the hell is the deal? Well,
something else going on.

Speaker 4 (53:03):
Let's hope it stays a bone bruise and gets healthy.

Speaker 13 (53:07):
That's fine that I honestly I don't understand it one bit.

Speaker 4 (53:14):
You Yeah, that's why I think it's I mean, it's
the most severe bone bruise I've ever heard. It just
feels like there's something I've heard. We've had a doctor
somebody said, yeah, chald and bruise can be worse than
a break than a break a fracture.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
So Chandler Rome put out an article, you know, and say,
let's let's go to break because we got the stake out.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
Next on sports Talk seven y hey, guys, listen, country
boys roofing country with the Cave Boys with a Z

five hundred dollars discount for military educators and first responders,

Boys with the Z eight three two seven three one
fifty six twenty eight three two seven three one fifty six,
twenty military educators, first responders a fifteen hundred dollars discount,

Speaker 1 (55:13):
Back to the Seawan Salisbury Show. All right, Sean, what
are you hearing out there now? The Salsbury stakeout salsburyf
takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 3 (55:32):
Sign for the steak out. Here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sean Brown and Triple E Astros beat the Rays. They
go for the sweep tonight five point fifty the first
pitch five o'clock on Deck show right here on seven
nine of your Home for Astros Baseball Astros GM. Dana
Brown gonna join us at nine thirty this morning for
the steakout, Sean. Juan Soto last night for the Yankees

(55:56):
hit three bombs and it was his first career three
homer game.

Speaker 4 (56:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
The Athletics Jim Bowden, just a couple of days ago
predicted that it's going to cost over five hundred million
dollars for the New York Yankees to sign Juan Soto
when his contract comes up. Do you think that he

(56:30):
will get more than five hundred million dollars.

Speaker 4 (56:32):
I think he gets close. I think anywhere between twelve
years or so for five four seventy five to five
and a quarter somewhere in there. He's a he's a
free agent this offseason. He's getting paid. But he'll put
it this way, regardless of what it is, he will
ended up being the highest paid player. And if I

(56:53):
mean there's Otani and then there's everybody else, what did
he get three quarters of a million, a million or
something something crazy like that. I don't know what A
six hundred million six I can't remember Sodo's gonna get.
He's gonna be the next half a billion dollar.

Speaker 3 (57:07):
Threshold Shoho Tani and his contract, so it is, I mean,
of course, it's all the deferred money, just the overall
DEALA I'm gonna tell about six hundred and eighty million, Okay,
in total.

Speaker 4 (57:25):
There you go. That's it right now. I know they're
into yearly and all.

Speaker 3 (57:28):
That seven hundred seven hundred over ten years, but he's
only making two million year all the way through that contract,
which is twenty thirty four. Then he becomes a free
agent at the age of thirty nine, when the deferred
money kicks in in twenty thirty four and goes all
the way to twenty forty three.

Speaker 4 (57:45):
Here's the way I look at it. It's a seven
hundred million dollar deal. He's getting seven hundred million dollars.
Uh huh. So you can tell me two million now
and seventy million for the last four whatever, however you
decide to break it up. It's a seven hundred million
dollar deal. Sodo E can get that. But he'll be
the next highest paid player in baseball when his deal's done,

(58:05):
which will take him in that five to five fifty
range I guess, which is what twelve years? He's twelve
years between forty five and fifty million a year. Yep.

Speaker 3 (58:16):
He turns twenty six in two months, so he'll Yeah,
that'll take him to what thirty eight thirty nine?

Speaker 4 (58:26):
Wow, So you're looking at what anywhere from forty seven
forty eight million a year to fifty million I guess,
And that about right, yeah, Because I mean if he
doesn't ten years at five hundred that's fifty million. And
if you decide to stretch it out and say twelve
years at five hundred million, five and a quarter, it's
at forty nine fifty one fifty two million bucks a

(58:47):
year somewhere in there. So yeah, it's common. I don't
doubt that one bit. But we've seen this movie coming,
We've seen this this kind of since SODA's been the league.
We knew he left Washington at some point, whether it
was in San Diego or they had to, you know,
he was gonna leave so somebody else could pay him.
You know, we know the teams that'll be in position

(59:08):
to pay him, to team out West, Yankees, Phillies, team
like the Red Sox. We know, we know the teams
that they can pay him, and they're gonna want to
pay him, and the team he's on right now gives
him as good opportunity as any And by putting up
these kind of numbers in this kind of in a
walk here where you're gonna be a free agent. Yeah,
it's fifty million dollars, no brainer, and he's gonna get

(59:31):
just depends on how long.

Speaker 3 (59:33):
Juan Soto this season, hitting three oh six, thirty three
bombs eighty six RBIs in a one thousand and forty
two OPS, which is second place in all of baseball.
He's tied for six and RBI's fifth and home runs
and fifth and average.

Speaker 4 (59:48):
Right, and the MVP is gonna go to his teammate,
and Otani's gonna win his MVP and h then Soto's
gonna win the offseason by getting his fifty million a
year what's or what have you, somewhere in that range.
But he'll make five hundred. Yes, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
We we talked about the Dallas Cowboys yesterday becoming the
first franchise in sports history to be worth over ten
billion dollars. The Yankees are right there coming up on
them as well. Uh, they are valued at seven point
five five billion dollars.

Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
Yeah, that doesn't surprise you, that does it. Seven point
five to five Yeah, and next year at this time
it'll be worth about eight point five five. So they
just keep they keep arising, they keep spending, they keep
getting paid, and that franchise, I mean, if you're the
Yankees are, the Dodgers can't be far behind. In baseball,
we obviously know the Cowboys are over ten million. So

(01:00:41):
there are ten billion, should I say?

Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
So?

Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
There's a it's a good investment to be an owner
in pro sports. So let's see, it looks like the
Dodgers are five to six billion, probably, Yeah, right around
five billion.

Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
Yeah, yep, second most valuable MLB franchise behind the New
York Yankees.

Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
Then the Red Sox will be valuable. San Francisco Giants valuable,
you know, Philadelphia Phillies probably fairly valuable. I mean, Betty Yankees, Dodgers,
and obviously the Cowboys in their in their sport. A
lot of money floating around. Yep, sure is good to
be them.

Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Yeah, want so we're gonna make five hundred million dollars yep,
pretty pretty crazy, well deserved too if he continues to
hit like this.

Speaker 4 (01:01:27):
In baseball terms, it's hard. I know, it's hard to
fatho him a half a billion dollars to a baseball player,
but in baseball terms, yeah, he's gonna get it, and
he deserves it. Plus he's he's dominating as a young
player with all that time. Yeah, not a big ten
or twelve year contract guy, but he's going to get it,
especially if it's in New York or LA, which is
going to be the two teams at the top of

(01:01:48):
the heap obviously.

Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
So let's talk a little college football. Joe Klatt gives
his predictions for the upcoming season. There's one team that
he is very high on Sean and I talked about
this team yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Who is it? We'll discuss an X on sports Stock

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
The Sewn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 4 (01:03:29):
Did I smoke? He easy down? It's so bad, dude,
I can't get that. I can't get this out of
my head now. Oh man, it's Lucas Bryan though. Man. Yeah,
apparently that was his first hunt. Okay, it was a
bowhunt too. Oh little bow knocked you down with the bow. Okay,

(01:03:49):
I got you, But.

Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
I mean he is full on decked out and Camo
got the eye black on.

Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
It's good to go face paint. He's ready to go
sit in that blind, right, wasn't he ready to go? Yeah?
He's he's up in the stand deer stand blind for
he's in there for blinds birds? Right? Do they call it?

Speaker 10 (01:04:08):
Dude?

Speaker 4 (01:04:09):
Did you ever call it a blind? If it's not birds?
Is it just always a stand? It's a deer stand,
isn't it? It's a deer stand duck blind? Right? I mean,
is there? I don't think it's a deer blind you
know there isn't. But can you use your duck blind
to shoot deer? You see what I'm doing there? They
got to have some hunters that listen to us. I mean,

(01:04:29):
I've hunted, but I'm not a to my blind over
the week, right, I'm not an expert on that now.
My son is dou no doug here. Yeah, But the
the jargon is a duck blind deer stand. The question
is can you cross pollinate? You know what I'm saying,

(01:04:49):
I want toss anybody off, now, That's what I'm saying.
That's exactly right, you know, I mean, so just wondered
if anybody's ever hunted deer from a duck that makes sense?
Or can can you can? Is there Is it a hybrid?
Can you hybrid it? We really need to get Doug
Pike ons this segment just asking because you and I

(01:05:10):
both know we know what it's called. Yeah, but can
you cross over? Because I have not crossed over.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
You can listen to Dug Pike every Saturday and Sunday
Saturday seven am to ten am Sunday eight am on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
Did I smoke?

Speaker 14 (01:05:25):
Did you see him go smoking?

Speaker 4 (01:05:32):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (01:05:33):
Here?

Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Like I have you been hunting? And I like to?
I never I'll tell you what I've never done is
spring turkey hunted, and I'd love.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
To I've actually never been hunting. Really yeah. But with that,
I do this stand.

Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
I just always wonder if you can When people are
talking hunting lingo, have you ever hunted from a deer?
A deer? Stand? Can you hunt duck? My gosh? And
can you hunt deer from your duck? Blind? You just
pissed off the entire hunting community. I didn't piss them off.
I'm asking you, so I'm asking a question. I don't know.
That's not I'm not being I'm not saying you can.
I don't know the protocol for See, we got all

(01:06:06):
our hunters rolling down see hardcore hunters?

Speaker 8 (01:06:09):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:06:09):
Yeah, Like I said, my son would know the answer
because he's really he's really really good. Which one dodge
my middle boys outstanding? Which one's six six? That's Dylan,
That's that's the chef before hunt him?

Speaker 8 (01:06:23):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:06:23):
Yeah? Who's that long neck? Right? Who's that tall dude?
I want to knock that buck down? I just I
don't know if you can? Can you cross pollinate? Right?
It's not a piss off, it's a true question. Get
somebody on you. Can you give us that answer?

Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
Well, we got we got plenty to go choose from us. Austin,
you're up first, Good morning.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Good morning, Sean.

Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
How are you doing this morning? Good? We're all doing
great here. Man, so curious, Hey, Triple how you doing? Man?
I'm messing with you guys. Hey, can you so? Can you?
I know you know we call it a deer stand
and you hunt and a duck blind? Can you hunt
deer from your blind?

Speaker 19 (01:06:59):
So the way I've always I mean, you can refer
to a deer blind is either a deer stand or
a deer blind.

Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
Okay, so you can still call it a blind even
if either way it works, correct, it's not just reserved
for ducks, right.

Speaker 19 (01:07:11):
Yes, So usually if if I'm bow hunting, I bow
hunt out of a deer stand or a tree stand.

Speaker 4 (01:07:18):
Okay.

Speaker 19 (01:07:18):
If I'm hunting with a rifle from a longer distance,
I call it a deer blind.

Speaker 4 (01:07:25):
Oh okay, okay, all right, So the blind for you
means longer distance gun rifle usually enclosed.

Speaker 19 (01:07:32):
Anything that's going to be enclosed I call it blind.

Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
And old thing that's open is a stand. That's perfect. Okay,
that's easy. Way, So you can hunt both. It just
depends on what you want to do, and obviously depending
on the quiet and stuff, because you you know all
that stuff that comes into play from distance as well.
Now it is it is.

Speaker 19 (01:07:52):
It is round upon to deer hunt out of a
duck blind because you're using lead ammunition and you're not
supposed to use lead ammunition when you're.

Speaker 4 (01:07:59):
Sitting in a b waterfowl. Right, fair enough, that's fair.
Appreciate it. Also, Now that's the catching point for some
who are beginners at it, right, Yeah, I like that,
And I let's talk to Brian. What's up, Brian hey Man, got.

Speaker 20 (01:08:11):
A story for you. We were duck hunting one year
probably ten fifteen years ago. Of course you shoot as
the previous color mansion, you shoot still out of a
duck blind. Yep, it was a slow morning. It was
rather foggy out walks at eight point right through the
middle of the decoys and the buddy of mine waxes

(01:08:33):
the eight point completely legal tags that didn't really kill
but about two ducks that morning. So yes, you can't legally, I.

Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
Guess and.

Speaker 13 (01:08:43):
Officially kill a deer.

Speaker 7 (01:08:45):
Out of a duck blind.

Speaker 20 (01:08:46):
Never seen anything else like it or heard anything else
like it, So I wanted to put that out there
for you.

Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
So that's a fair question. And say I asked a
fair question because I know how the protocol of hunters
is really final. What a great light at the duck hut.
He only got two of those, but he ducked at
eight points down an exactly. That's a nice figet and
it was all legal. So that's a good thing. Questions
answered there we go. I like it, Alex, welcome in.

Speaker 7 (01:09:11):
What's going on?

Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
Jents, what's up? Oh? Not much so.

Speaker 21 (01:09:15):
The way I was raised with hunting and everything else
is your stand is going to be something that's on
like a tripod, like four legs, three legs up in
the air and your deer and you're blind. Would be
more of a ground setup, like a ground blind, and
you can hunt deer or duck out of a ground
blind or anything like that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:34):
Okay, so you're saying elevated, elevated would become a stand,
ground ground level becomes a blind, Yes, because.

Speaker 21 (01:09:44):
You're you're blending it into the background and the scenery
rather than sticking it up in the trees and trying
to keep from being stillhouetted.

Speaker 4 (01:09:50):
Makes it? It makes sense? And you know what's crazy?
What's awesome about this? Three different calls, three different same idea,
but three different explanations, which I like to cover it all. Yeah,
I do, like Alex, thanks man, So there you go.
Let's go one more. Got some hunting fools now and
I like it. What's up, Brian, what's up? Guys?

Speaker 1 (01:10:08):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (01:10:09):
So, I feel like I'm calling in. I feel like
I'm calling into the Doug Pike Show right now, which
is totally fine.

Speaker 16 (01:10:14):
But I always felt like, so you have a tree, stand,
a stand, and a blind. So the last guy was right, like,
I feel like a stand is up in the air
and it's enclosed.

Speaker 5 (01:10:24):
A tree stand. You just stand in a tree with
like a special.

Speaker 16 (01:10:27):
Platform, and then a blind is on the ground and
camouflage to where the deer don't see it.

Speaker 5 (01:10:32):
Hen's the term blind Doug.

Speaker 16 (01:10:34):
You'd be like almost in the ground, or you could
lay down like on a like a sleeping bag on
a hunt duck, which that's a whole different game. But
I wanted to talk about Alex Bregman. Holy god, this
is insane what he's doing.

Speaker 4 (01:10:47):
But he's home runs and money right now man and
wins no doubt.

Speaker 8 (01:10:51):
Yes he is, Yes he is.

Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
But I don't want to get off topic.

Speaker 16 (01:10:54):
If anybody else wants to call about Doug, I'm here
for it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Hey, I'm also here for a little uh, little red
Cosmo or a little dirty Martini this weekend, Ryan say.

Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
When I'm not ordering that crap. That was horrible. But hey,
here's the thing.

Speaker 16 (01:11:11):
Even even I'm getting my story wrong, it was it
was somebody that was with you was like, hey, try this.

Speaker 5 (01:11:16):
And I was like, okay, You're like, dude, it tastes
tastes terrible.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
I said, it tastes like Jeff Fuel.

Speaker 3 (01:11:21):
It was like dirty martini or I don't even remember
what it was, and I said him and Nick and
a couple of guys that listen to us and follow
us on Twitter. I was like, dude, it tastes like
jet Field. Don't don't, don't do it. Next thing, you know,
he just downs the whole thing.

Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
Terrible. Jet Fueld works for something. There you go.

Speaker 5 (01:11:39):
Yeah, it didn't work. It didn't work. Anyways. I'll talk
to you guys later.

Speaker 4 (01:11:45):
Good stuff. So see, I like it. We got different
explanations how you were raised, what it is, but the
explanations are all clear. I just and the bottom line is,
so you can you while you're hunting duck? Yeah, knocked
down from your blind correct a deer if it's fought
so and I like it. I like the fact the
protocol of that.

Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
All I'm saying is if Doug Pike ever needs us
to run his show on the way now.

Speaker 4 (01:12:07):
Dougie Fresh, how about that duck hunting? Oh would you
get an eight point buck?

Speaker 13 (01:12:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:12:14):
Yeah, I like it.

Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
Yeah, it's pretty's pretty legal too, Yeah it does. Let's
go all right, let's let's talk a little college football

Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
The Jean Salsbury Show continues.

Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Every single picture and story is everyone posting their kids
first DAI school picture?

Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
Yep, first day? Stop it, we get it, we get it.
It's not for the kid, it's more for the for
the course. And it's and what people say, well, they're
just doing it for memories. Well you can. You're saying
you could take the picture for memories, you just don't
have to post all four hundred of them. It's like
my kid walking his right foots in front, then his

(01:14:22):
left foots and soft, then his right foot has in
front with his lunch bat pale, and then his left
foots in front with his backpack. One if it's.

Speaker 3 (01:14:31):
Your your kid's first day of kindergarten. That's a big
momentum or a big occasion, right.

Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
But now your junior year in high school.

Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
If it's your kids first day, first day of middle school,
I understand it. First day of freshman year, first day
of senior year. I don't need to see driving away
in your vehicle off to college. I don't need to
see a post. My ninety six month year old is
starting fourth grade.

Speaker 4 (01:14:54):
But it's not even the one yeah where they're like
all standing there together as a family and all three
kids are in school and you go, okay, cool, but
four hundred of them, Yeah, like, come on, listen, I
get them, Brian, we're making member.

Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
Little Johnny starting fourth grade today. Yeah, we all went
the fourth grade, we get it.

Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
Cool.

Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Cool. Now Johnny goes and whooped somebody's ass in the
fourth grade, come back always bloody, donk. It was like,
then posted that's Johnny in the fourth grade, set to for.

Speaker 22 (01:15:23):
The rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (01:15:24):
Little Johnny whooped the kids ass for the first So
bully was talking poorly to a young boy and a
young girl. So he went over there and opened up
a can. Now, now post sat right, the little little
Mellie started seventh grade. Yeah. Cool, we've all been to
seventh grade, and she's this is one more year, and
that she gets her head set off of her brace.

(01:15:46):
Oh my gosh, tintal teeth. Man, how many times we
call it? Hey, hey, look at tinsel teeth. But the
head here is the all time. Look, I've told you
the head anymore? What a self esteem killer from your kids? Hey, honey, sorry,
and why get your braces done? Like in August the

(01:16:11):
school service, Come on, man, help the self worth. You
know what I said. The kid comes back because they
just you know, they had summer teeth or summer here
and summer there, and all of a sudden they got
the steal. This steel gets to where you look like
you're in a James Bond movie and James Jaws, and

(01:16:32):
then you have the headset on.

Speaker 7 (01:16:34):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:16:34):
I don't want to dog them, but I do. And
then you're sitting now five years from now. She's the
hottest girl in school. He's the most handsome kids school.
But I'm gonna tell you throwing them in there, especially
when the kid comes from a dude like a freshman.
They're new at the school and you gotta kind of
blend in with them. Hey, Manu, there's no distraction other

(01:16:54):
than the head gear. You don't let anything hang off
the braces. See, like, here we go.

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
Rob and Katie just tweeted us and he said, just
for you be Lima, it's Mattie's first day of kindergarten.
This is okay with me, right, sister, first day of kindergarten.
I'm okay with.

Speaker 4 (01:17:12):
When you've seen one, you're good, right, But damn, dude,
Like I don't want to see like my favorites. Like
you'll see him walking away to school or the bus
and the mom's talking to the data. The tears are
in their eyes. They're going to school. They're not leaving
for they're not going to semester.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
Element The fourth grade elementary school is literally two blocks away.

Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
I get the emotion. He'll be back in five hours.
But I'm to me, it's not the quality of the us. Yeah,
thank you, it is, you said, FM kids, it's the
number of them. But then it's the first day, then
the second you'll get like you'll get him for like
two weeks. I know he came home with his first report. Car.
I mean, I get it. It's more for the parents memories.

(01:17:54):
Most kids especially when you become a teacher. You're like, man,
I get it. Posing for any picture, I understand it.
You like the quality, but you don't want quantity. No, no,
you need to You don't need to see the third
grader four hundred pictures on social media. For Get two
straight days on social media of the same picture you've
been seeing for the first day.

Speaker 3 (01:18:13):
When I was going to school for the first day,
Like my parents couldn't wait to kick my ass out
of the school at the album.

Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
I go back and look at your pictures and I
can't remember one of them being posted about or whether
there was no social media, but right one of them
being taken. It that your first had no maybe they
should have. No, we never did. It was not a
big deal. We did for like a homecoming prom. Yeah,
but you're in high schoolsions.

Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
Yeah, occasions, like occasions everything we did the soft cop
back in elementary like.

Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
Hey, here's my kids first trip in the van to
the soccer field. He's sitting in the chair, he's buckled up.

Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
Yeah, Okay, you're kind of a bigger hater about it
the time. I just wanted to be a hater just
for at segment you're allowed like I get it allowed.
I don't want to hate kids anyway I do, but
you know I appreciate Robinson and this congratulations to Maddie
on your first day.

Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
Maddie, good looking brothers shirt. How about you? You're the
guy when you get married. I appreciate that. When you
get married and Mama convinces you to have a baby,
you're gonna be the guy who's all picture guy all
the time. The same things that you hate, You're gonna
be that guy myself snipped. Stop it first, stop it
before I get married. Stop it.

Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
I don't want kids slop that. I don't I will
literally get myself snipped.

Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
I will do it. Why don't you do it now?
If you got this? Are you kidding me? I'm find
an endorsement. Tell everybody you got your boss? Anybody? What
is it called a vasectomy? Or yeah? Anybody have one
of those? Later? Get Hey, if you're a tough guy
right now, do it right now. And then if you
do it right now and then mom, Hey, I'm not

(01:19:51):
reversing this. I got a V dog. Look at my
V dogs. I got my V car dog. You don't
like to get the step and this not you?

Speaker 8 (01:20:00):
Right?

Speaker 4 (01:20:02):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:20:03):
Man, Well, congratulations to every parent and their kids starting
school today.

Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
You do have some driving down the street that are
like I do. Yeah, couple my kids they're driving down
the streets saying screw Bryan. He's a hater.

Speaker 8 (01:20:13):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:20:14):
Man, he just doesn't understand how important it is to
take these to capture good words a moment, capture these
memories and moments. You can capture them moment, you just
don't share them with everybody. You have to share. You
have to share all twenty pictures you took. Here's what
I want you to do, though. If you have a
kid that's wearing head gear. I don't mean a football helmet.
I'm talking about braces. Do we still do that? Or

(01:20:35):
if you have one back when you were in high school,
share it with us. I want to see that. If
you were that person who's like, oh, man, Sean, you
you're talking about it? What horrible memories?

Speaker 7 (01:20:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:20:44):
I showed up my junior year and I had head
gear on with with braces, braces that you could see
from like a half a mile away. Uh huh. Send
those pictures. Yeah, I want to see the head gear shots. Well,
I mean, guys are half they were at school when
it was yeah, they're they're out there, somebody's got a
head gear shot. Well, I mean I'm a hater for
like say, your self esteem may be ruined forever because

(01:21:04):
your parents they did it.

Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Such a disservice to those kids. Let's get into the
eight o'clock hour and talk Texans. Welso, get to your
phone call seven one three two one two five seven
and I got the phones line lit up. We'll get to
you next on Sports Talk seven to eighty.

Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
Kd E Houston, k t V HD two Houston Nhart
Radio station. How about the Masters as a Rocket. This
is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams,
driven by that classic elite to view at GMC Studios
for the elite car buying experience. Salisbury, old Bury, Salsbury, Houston. Okay,

(01:21:45):
let's do this. Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (01:21:50):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (01:22:00):
They don't know JJ McCarthy's, uh, the severity of it.
They it's meniscus, which I told you. I've seen guys
come back in ten days from meniscus. Now, I don't
know if if the case they'll protect JJ McCarthy here,
but meniscus is one of those that you come back
a little sooner than normal you can, and hopefully he
won't be out for the season. They don't know the timeline.
So when I was smiling, I was smiling something else

(01:22:21):
and you having to go to an injury report, So
that had nothing to do with left I was just
thinking about because we got to sit some pictures of
head gear, dude, of Brace's head gear, and I, by
the way, I told you, I think JJ McCarthy's going
to be even a better pro than he was college
player because they will spread open the offense and let
and not water him down. You know what I'm saying.

(01:22:41):
They'll take a they'll take the governor off a little
bit for him, and he's an accurate pastor. But uh,
let's get back to the let's let's not don't be
the lead. That's headgear, dude. I was just thinking about it,
thinking about somebody out there is rich because they invented that.
I know at some point in time there was headgear
running wilds and the person the person who took the

(01:23:04):
the brace's head gear and said, I got a great idea.
Let's wrap a steel bar around somebody's head and make
them go to school and wear it for six straight months,
eight straight months. That's a self esteem uplifter. It's awful.
Yet that person is riding on Easy Street right now
because people bought those like hotcakes back when. Hey what

(01:23:27):
you got? And I still don't understand it. So they
pulled back on the braces. They kept it tight. Remember
you tighten the rubber bands. I never had braces, but
people who had them, is that you tighten. I didn't
even have my wisdom teeth pulled, dude, so I missed
me a lot of room in that mouth. But they
would have the head gear for let's make sure we
pull it back. You know, like you put your hair

(01:23:49):
in a high pony. You want to make sure your
ponytails tighten up right, and you put your your little
hair thing in it. You're scrunchy in it. So they
was a head gear to yank the the the band
aid's back can tight. Hey, how's your head gear? Little loose?
Tighten that up for you. So the all time self
esteem killer the headgear in high school. Oh my god,
elementary is awful.

Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
Seven seven ninety got a full phone board let's get
to everybody.

Speaker 4 (01:24:15):
Thomas, good morning.

Speaker 20 (01:24:17):
How's it going, Brian?

Speaker 8 (01:24:18):
How's it going?

Speaker 7 (01:24:19):
John?

Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
All good?

Speaker 23 (01:24:21):
I so, Brian about that last segment.

Speaker 10 (01:24:24):
You might want to be careful.

Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
And when those the sect to me.

Speaker 22 (01:24:27):
I was sitting in.

Speaker 23 (01:24:28):
That garret nine am yesterday morning.

Speaker 4 (01:24:30):
Uh huh.

Speaker 23 (01:24:31):
And unless you got a full refrigerator full of peas,
seriously consider it, my man.

Speaker 10 (01:24:37):
You got weird.

Speaker 4 (01:24:38):
You got your V card yesterday?

Speaker 8 (01:24:40):
I got a V.

Speaker 7 (01:24:41):
Card yesterday, Yes, sir, so book.

Speaker 23 (01:24:44):
It's not as painful as.

Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
To make it sound.

Speaker 10 (01:24:45):
Man, get one.

Speaker 4 (01:24:49):
Thomas, Hey, why why your why? Your zz UT's got
Doug gunn peas all over him right now and you're
talking to us at eight o'clock in the morning. But
it doesn't matter, yesright.

Speaker 23 (01:24:58):
Man, gotta pass the time.

Speaker 4 (01:24:59):
Somehouse he might as well put. You might as well
put frozen peas on your nuts. That'll work there.

Speaker 24 (01:25:06):
You gotta keep got to keep the fellows cool.

Speaker 4 (01:25:10):
Right now, somebody's got to made me call somebody with
head gear. They can help, Thomas.

Speaker 24 (01:25:17):
You know, I just so happy to put mine in
the in the.

Speaker 4 (01:25:20):
The there you're what your p's your balls are the
head gear for both?

Speaker 5 (01:25:28):
Thank you?

Speaker 4 (01:25:29):
Thanks Thomas. Oh my gosh, let's talk to Rob. What's
happening to Rob?

Speaker 25 (01:25:34):
Hey, good morning guys. You know it made me laugh
when you said that, Brian. Uh, As far as staying
off of social media, it's about five minutes before you
started that segment. I literally posted more than just a
picture that I said to you. I took a few
other ones, but uh, I posted it on Facebook and
literally captioned it just another first day of school picture post. Like,

(01:25:59):
I get it, dad, I'm a single dad. I get it, man,
Like I don't care for anybody else's kids or to
see him whatever. I'm happy for them, just like I'm
happy for my own. I don't care though. It is
all just about the family and the further your point
about that's bringing kids into this world and this economy.
Those pictures for me, as proud as I am of

(01:26:20):
my kids and doing and you know, education and all
that good stuff. It's a celebration for me and I'm
pretty sure most other single parents and even some parents
that aren't single parents, because I'll tell you right now,
this economy I was real for them to finally start
school again. It's five hundred dollars a week for full

(01:26:40):
time day care for two kids. That's a that's as
a five year old and an eight year old. That's
not at I don't even want to know what infant
costs is these days, but that cost as of today
has been cutting half. So that's my celebration for that post.

Speaker 4 (01:27:00):
And imagine you're taking him out of daycare and sticking
him into a private school. Now that I do the
math craziness, Rob, good stuff, Rob, appreciate it. Don't bury
the head gear lead though, now because you because you've
said he don't put him up. Now people are just
posting all the stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
Yeah we just got so you've done our guy Bill
and c Brooks video. Yeah, uh, John and John and
Neadville is you know, obviously not working. He's down in
New Bronfels typical. Uh he's us a picture of his
cup of coffee and and uh and then uh uh
at Space Cowboy in s L Space Cowboy and Sugarland

(01:27:42):
b is for buzzer.

Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
I can't say that wrestling. He said, happy fifth day
of school. It's a picture of him.

Speaker 9 (01:27:51):
Dude.

Speaker 4 (01:27:51):
I'm just telling you you're gonna get some great some
that are gonna come back and say they love their
first three days. But here's day Four's like, really great,
it's a Thursday at school.

Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
I would rather see pictures like this of teachers, because teachers,
first of all, don't make enough money for what the
bs that they put up with.

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
Screw all of you. I just want everybody to collect
headgear pictures, sweating dude. Show them before and after the
girl who had had gear in the third grade or
the tenth grade, in what she looked like as a senior.

Speaker 26 (01:28:23):
I want to see the split screen of what the
hell to damn jail? See fact then it wasn't about.

Speaker 4 (01:28:36):
It was fishing. Yeah, they were like kind ahead gear.
You think, bros, what it is?

Speaker 8 (01:28:44):
You know?

Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
It's not you, it's me. It's wait till she gets
him off late bluebird. Let's get to Jason. Jason, what's
up morning, fellas? Uh?

Speaker 23 (01:28:57):
I got my fresh corn bread in the oven and
I love it. Corn bread ready for today? And also
just want to holler, I totally agree first day of
school picks. Man, It's like the seventy six picks you
see on Facebook. It's each angle, each angle of their
kid going left and right, got the headsets on. Yeah,

(01:29:17):
I mean you know, and then you got them outside
and inside and over here.

Speaker 5 (01:29:21):
You know, once again we're in Texas.

Speaker 23 (01:29:22):
So now they got to practice football in the morning.
So now we got pictures in the dark.

Speaker 4 (01:29:27):
They got spotlights on them. So right though, Hey, here's way,
here's Johnny, little Johnny with his right foot forward, look
and move to the left foot forward. Don't you look
at these shoes on our Little Johnny. Puts your arm
around your sister.

Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
She starting seventh grade this morning, right and the nice Yeah, it's.

Speaker 23 (01:29:47):
So pissed because you don't want to be there. But
little Johnny he's excited, you know.

Speaker 5 (01:29:50):
Yeah, it's it's all a joke.

Speaker 23 (01:29:52):
And like you said, it's for the kids.

Speaker 5 (01:29:53):
But hey, real serious talk.

Speaker 23 (01:29:54):
Yeah, you college football man, I'm a little worried about
my long Horns. They have running backs down Sean. What's
your thoughts man, when you lose too big guys, you know,
you lose your number one running back, then you lose
your freshman running back. It's not like they can go
seek out in free agency. But give me your thoughts
on that. And hey, I just wanted to holler. Me
and my boy Gilbert are going to join you guys
at the preview.

Speaker 4 (01:30:14):
A and m alumni.

Speaker 23 (01:30:15):
We're gonna hunt some zoids from our.

Speaker 5 (01:30:17):
Gears dand.

Speaker 4 (01:30:19):
Let's go. He just added the two other basic white
guys that'll be there be four of you about the Longhorns.
Here's what I know about smart recruiters. Like a guy,
and think about when Sark was at Alabama, the third guy,

(01:30:42):
it was just somebody's all American. Right, That's the way
I'm looking at this thing.

Speaker 8 (01:30:46):
I think.

Speaker 4 (01:30:46):
And now listen, back in the day, when you have
no scholarship limits, you could go recruit the top fire.
I know what, sc had five guys that could have
went somewhere else and started. When I got there, they
were all good, and I thought times have changed. But
you do have to prepare for this. And I'll tell
you the way I look at it. A lot of times,
you find a lot of times the reason we don't
know about the third guy, it's because the third guy
doesn't get any run. And I hate to say this,

(01:31:07):
but the only way you get run is by somebody
getting banged up. And you don't want it to be serious,
but unfortunate. They've lost some guys that are going to
be out a while. So at least if it's gonna happen.
I don't you never wanted that. It happens early enough
in camp, Brian, so I can get the guy reps
so he can just run to daylight and do his thing.
You may find out in this a young player becomes

(01:31:27):
your best player. It happens all the time. And if
it's going to happen at one position, I'm not taking
it for granted. But one position that guys are you
know that skill of just being able to make people miss.
We've got some skilled, skilled people, not only at Texas
but around college football that you're like, I didn't even
know this guy what he was supposed to play. And
what do you know? Remember when Frank Gore, my guy

(01:31:50):
from the three running backs, Frank Gore, Willis mcgaye, and
there was one more, what's the other one? Who was
a long time inn If we played for Washington, Why
am I losing my Clinton portis? Remember Frank Gore has
shreded his knee twice. Yeah, if Frank Gore doesn't get hurt,
you may not know who Clinton portis and Willis mcgae

(01:32:12):
he are. They both went on and Gore ends up
having the longest freaking career of any of them, and
all three of them were really good all at Miami.
So I'm I'm counting on the fact that with their
recruit and they are there nil and collective in Sarkesian's experience,
that whoever wins the job is going to be a playmaker. Yeah,
and probably is going to be label Oh he's a

(01:32:34):
future star. But now that star has to rise now,
so I'm assuming that's going to happen. It's a position
that can be filled by good players. All right, let's
get to break good stuff. Sweating stuff goes oh Man
seven one, three, two, two, five seven.

Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
I still got plenty of people that want to get
in and talk about these astros. Uh, let's get to
him next on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
To eighty, the Sewn Salisbury Show continues, and they did.

Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
Now you know, I saw him at the.

Speaker 3 (01:33:06):
This is gonna be a long last. Yeah, he's good.
Went to Appalachian State for a couple uh a couple
of years now, dropped out to chase music.

Speaker 4 (01:33:16):
Well he made the right choice. Yeah, music's chasing him nowtown.
People want to write stuff and get in to him
all the time.

Speaker 12 (01:33:24):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:33:24):
As good as he is, I think my favorite part
about Luke Combs is. When he performs, he wears jeans,
boots and a fishing shirt, like like he doesn't go
out wearing bedazzled anything. Doesn't wear like your stereotypical you know.

Speaker 4 (01:33:37):
It looks to me like he wears the same things
he'd wear to a bar to have a beer with you.

Speaker 3 (01:33:40):
Yeah, fishing hat uh in in uh At at NRG Stadium,
he wore a brand new Texans hat that Cal McNair
gave him both nights, freaking love it. Always has a
red solo cup in his hand when he's performing. Just
just seems like just a super good dude.

Speaker 4 (01:33:53):
Yeah, well it feels like what he The way he
rolls his business on the on the stage is the
way he rolls it off, hopefully to have a headset.
He probably didn't. He probably didn't. He probably was probably
to his parents all wearing that. Probably yanked it off
his first day of school. So there you go, my
kind of guy. Seven two five seven ninety. Let's get
out to the phone lines, Miss Carrol, good.

Speaker 27 (01:34:15):
Morning, Well hello folks, how y'all.

Speaker 4 (01:34:21):
Doing just super? How are you well?

Speaker 27 (01:34:25):
I'm a lot better, Sean, and I I thought about
you doing my illness. Uh my heap of globe and
I got, you know, to keep it in check because
I've had fainting spells and I've been so till i

(01:34:46):
didn't have an energy to do anything. But I'm getting
stronger and hope my friend Mattress Mac is listening and
hopefully I can get out to some more games. But
I'm gonna tell you.

Speaker 4 (01:35:03):
We hope your energy is better and you're feeling great.
We do, and it's great to hear from you.

Speaker 8 (01:35:06):
Well, I Sean.

Speaker 27 (01:35:09):
I The reason why I'm I'm saying to you because
you know you told me your mother was visually impaired,
and so.

Speaker 10 (01:35:19):
I don't want I want you to be concerned, but.

Speaker 27 (01:35:22):
I don't want you worried because you can't keep a
good woman like me down.

Speaker 4 (01:35:28):
Baby, you know that's for sure.

Speaker 27 (01:35:33):
But I'm gonna tell you we said back in May,
we said look out, the askers are coming.

Speaker 7 (01:35:44):
We said it, and look.

Speaker 27 (01:35:46):
Where they are now now sixty four and fifty five,
and that's commendable.

Speaker 1 (01:35:58):
Wake up, Bryant, she.

Speaker 4 (01:36:03):
Told you your happy as to wake up. I'm awake here,
Miss Carroll.

Speaker 27 (01:36:08):
Well you better you you better, you better act like
you're alive around here.

Speaker 1 (01:36:12):
But anyway.

Speaker 7 (01:36:13):
You know, I like both of you.

Speaker 1 (01:36:15):
You know that, y'all, y'all my friends.

Speaker 27 (01:36:17):
But I I'm gonna be calling. I just had to
get myself together, you know. But Baby, the Astros are
on fire. And I told Emanuel to get them Ohio
players on and send a message to the fans. The
Ashes are on fire. Now what what litst see? They

(01:36:39):
play the Blue the White Sox Friday that it is Sunday, right.

Speaker 4 (01:36:45):
Yes, ma'am. This winning streak. If they take care of
their business tonight, then go on and beat the Socks
three in a row. That would end up being what
a nine ten game winning streak by the end of
that one right here you go, So.

Speaker 27 (01:36:58):
Thank you sir very much. And you're absolutely right. And Sean,
I want to meet you so bad till I got
tears in my eyes. You know, I ain't shook your
hand yet.

Speaker 4 (01:37:13):
We're gonna shake the hand, high five, dap it up
and have some fun. And I look forward to and
you healthy is a good voice on this show. We
always appreciate we well.

Speaker 27 (01:37:23):
I appreciate you too, man. And like I said, Matt,
just Matt put me in the best.

Speaker 10 (01:37:28):
Of sweets and and I don't be on.

Speaker 27 (01:37:33):
The home plate and in the seats. He put me
in luxury and I don't know where he gonna put me.
But Sean, if you keep on looking for me, just
ask anybody for evangelist Carol Thomas and the blind lady

(01:37:55):
and baby this woman will be glad to hug you
and shake your hand. I'd like to shake your hand
to mister mister Brian.

Speaker 3 (01:38:05):
Oh yeah, we'll make that happen, Miss Carroll, we'll make
it happen. We appreciate you calling this morning. Glad you're
feeling a little bit better, Yes, sir, thank you, Miss Carroll.
Let's take a quick one and let's go to John.

Speaker 1 (01:38:15):
John.

Speaker 4 (01:38:15):
What's happening, hey man, how y'all doing this morning? We're
good man, what's on your mind?

Speaker 8 (01:38:21):
Hey man?

Speaker 7 (01:38:21):
You know the Astros are playing better.

Speaker 12 (01:38:23):
They get Kyle Tucker back, they gonna win the division
without a problem. I give Danny Brown credit for the
Kakouchie trade because I honestly, I thought that was a
great trade. Initially, I always thought that Kakouchie had really
good stuff. He just needed maybe the right pitching staff
to tell him the right thing.

Speaker 8 (01:38:41):
And is it so?

Speaker 12 (01:38:42):
I thought that was a great trade. And also the
trade said he made way tighten up the bullpen. Those
pictures are pitching a lot better also, so I get
him credit for that. Now this is the negative right here.
I've heard Danny Brown tray that he and Joe Spider
go over the line of card in the morning. So
therefore I don't know which one of them is making

(01:39:04):
this decision. But if you're listening Dana grind and Joey Spider,
Yanna DS cannot play first base. He can't school falls.
First base is the position that has more action than
any other position doing the game. You can tell he's
even uncomfortable there. You can't have that. You have you

(01:39:26):
traded for shortstops that's not even playing that bat might
not be that good, but they can certainly scoop a ball.
Y'alla DS don't need to be playing first base. And
the reason I bring up these kind of mistakes is
because if you're gonna do this when we make it
to the playoffs, fortunate if we're fortunate enough to make
it to the playoffs and you do that, that can

(01:39:48):
cost us the game. Yanna cannot school falls man, you know,
like like Forrest com say, stupid? Is that stupid?

Speaker 4 (01:39:57):
Does?

Speaker 8 (01:39:58):
Hey man, y'all have a good.

Speaker 3 (01:40:00):
Thank you John. Let's we'll discuss you on here at
first base when we get back. Christ I know you've
been holding. If you don't mind, we'll get to you
first thing when we get back from this break. Biscuit
you as well. Seven one three, two point two five
seven ninety is the.

Speaker 4 (01:40:11):
Number to joy.

Speaker 3 (01:40:12):
We continue to roll along right here on the Shawn
Salisbury Show. But let's talk about the Seaside Club Collection

by wearing a Kobe Stevens Golf Apparel shirt because they're

(01:40:50):

the golf course even if your.

Speaker 4 (01:41:23):

Speaker 3 (01:41:24):
It's Kobe Stevens dot Com. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Chris,
we appreciate you holding man, what's on your mind?

Speaker 15 (01:41:35):
Yeah, guys, good morning, great show. And you guys, you're
having a lot of fun this morning. But I'm not
sure if you are having as much fun as your
done did yesterday and batting practice man breaking that scoreboard
like you did. I mean, that place is a dump
and that scoreboard says it is. I mean he was
probably aiming for, like, watch this guy, I'm going to

(01:41:56):
break that scoreboard up there. So that was pretty cool
that he left Mark on trumpic Caana Field.

Speaker 5 (01:42:01):
Like he did.

Speaker 15 (01:42:03):
But I wanted to bring up two things that I'm
kind of observing right now with the Astros. And I'm
not complaining. I'm gonna I love this winning streak that
we're on. I would take the wins, but I do
see that we're kind of lowering the bar even more
when it comes to starting pitching and what our expectations are.
I mean, five and two thirds, yes, one run, Kakuchi

(01:42:25):
very good from ber five and two thirds.

Speaker 5 (01:42:28):
Yes, we got the win.

Speaker 15 (01:42:29):
But I want to see our starting pitchers try to
get into the sixth inning. When you go on five
and two thirds, you're going to be burning a reliever
for that one out most likely, and then you got
to bring someone in to start.

Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
A clean inning.

Speaker 15 (01:42:43):
So you know, Hunter Brown did great this year. I
think he had twelve or thirteen consecutive quality starts going
six innings, So I just you know, I know when
it be won the World Series in twenty two. That
was one of our bragging points was that we were
able to go deep into the games. Are starting pitching

(01:43:04):
and how rest of our bullpen was And my other
observation is we're really depending on the home run right now,
and I hope that we can continue that. But you know,
this team is so streaky, right guys. I mean this
team is so streaky, and that's the way it's been
for a few years now. I just think that when

(01:43:25):
you get into the playoffs, small ball is going to
be the way to go, you know. So anyway, those
are my thoughts, guys, have a go on.

Speaker 4 (01:43:33):
Appreciated. Chris Jordan did break this break the little jumbo
tron yesterday at Tropicana.

Speaker 3 (01:43:41):
It started working again later on in the game. He said,
don't send me the bill.

Speaker 4 (01:43:45):
Yeah, and two things about Yeah, two things about and
he makes a good point, our caller does. But two things.
One is we are in a time when not just here,
but every pitching staff they get you to five innings
and six innings and you're a You've had a great performance.
That's how people labeled. So unfortunately, I don't think that's
going to change much. You're not going to continue to

(01:44:06):
get seven and eight anying performances. That's just not what
baseball does anymore. You know, guys going good, you walk
one guy and you're over eighty pitches we started, people
start to panic. So I get concerned with that. But
in the way baseball works now, their starts have been really,
really impressive. And secondly, when we talk about Streaky, and

(01:44:29):
I'm with him, when you're not hitting home runs, you
know what we say, we're complaining about no home runs
because we're playing too much small ball. Then when you're
hit playing small ball, we complain that there's not enough
home runs, and vice versa hitting home runs. Man, I
need more small ball, So I get it. And yes,
moving people over and that is going to make a
big difference in the postseason. But I need the pop
from Bregman right now. And Alvarez. What's the one thing

(01:44:50):
you're complaining about Alvarez even though he's sitting three hundred
and now they're back up so and Streaky. I would say,
if you went around to most teams and baseball this year,
maybe Sands the for the most part. Philadelphia, although they've
gone through you know, a little bit of trouble at times,
but most teams are streaking professional baseball. Yeah, the key

(01:45:12):
is baseball colimiting. Those are the downfall to where it's
not a ten and twelve game where you've lost two
out of you know, you've won two out of twelve
and more of those streaks for year six out of eight,
seven out of nine, five out of seven. That's the key.
And getting hot at the right time that those streaks
happened when necessary. And for the Astros, well, it's been

(01:45:32):
inconsistent and streaky. Those inconsistent streaks have got them to
a game and a half lead in first place, which
is amazing. I think.

Speaker 3 (01:45:40):
I mean the performances that we've seen, like you know,
with the streaks and with the game, you know, with
the winning streaks and obviously streaky hitting, streaky pitching and
things like that.

Speaker 4 (01:45:50):
Isn't that, I mean pretty much how baseball goes with sports. Yeah,
sure it is. She got up, she got downs, You
got you know, loles, And the key is to get
out of the valleys as quickly as possible and stay
at the peak as long as you can. And if
you get both, you just hope the peaks were a
little bit longer than the valleys because over the court, well,
baseball in itself, the description is basically inconsistent because and streaky,

(01:46:12):
right when when failing seven times out of ten makes
you a hell of a player? Yeah, Streaky's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (01:46:17):
Yeah, there's no question about it's talk to Felipe, Good morning, Felipe,
Good morning guys.

Speaker 8 (01:46:22):
Uh, well, Brian, you haven't convinced.

Speaker 4 (01:46:25):
On to do White Boy Wednesday?

Speaker 5 (01:46:26):
Man.

Speaker 4 (01:46:28):
You know, I'm trying, man, but it's just not working.

Speaker 8 (01:46:30):
Yeah, it's hard to move a mountain.

Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
I know it is mountain.

Speaker 5 (01:46:35):
Hey, man, have you.

Speaker 4 (01:46:36):
Ever dragged corn bread with milk? Sweat corn bread with milk?

Speaker 1 (01:46:39):
No?

Speaker 4 (01:46:40):
Have any of y'all? I have?

Speaker 8 (01:46:42):
I have.

Speaker 4 (01:46:44):
I have.

Speaker 9 (01:46:44):
My grandfather grew up in East Texas. He's like, it
tastes like does moist bread, moist cake?

Speaker 5 (01:46:50):
Birthday cake?

Speaker 7 (01:46:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (01:46:53):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:46:54):
One thing about.

Speaker 18 (01:46:54):
Astros that you know, everybody talk about streaky, and I
feel like, uh, you know, if this whole team, you know,
besides the injuries and how we are right now, at
the best performance that we have, like if everybody's fired
all senators. Uh, that's from you know, batter one to
batter nine first and the rotation, last rotation, everybody in
the boat, and how do you compare this team to

(01:47:16):
other teams going down the stretch? If everybody's like doing
their best performance, would how do y'all see this team
doing that?

Speaker 8 (01:47:23):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:47:24):
Well, and we can come back and ask the answers.
Have the break be leeve. Just to clear up. Are
you talking about the way that each team's playing now
with their pitching staff and their players and how they
have bullpen or when they've been take their worst and
their best and find a happy middle. Which one are
you talking about? If you're talk about the.

Speaker 9 (01:47:43):
First like the best and worst and find the middle
like where where where do you think the asheles rank?

Speaker 4 (01:47:47):
Throw out their throughout their worst, throughout their best, and
find somewhere in the middle. Who's the best in the
middle team in baseball that they're going to deal with.
That's fair enough, all right, we can have that conversation.
Makes sense, thanksfully.

Speaker 3 (01:47:59):
Yeah, let's go and get to break and we can
have that discussion next right here on sportslock seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:48:03):

This is this Shan Valance Fury Show.

Speaker 4 (01:50:01):
Are you not at the time?

Speaker 1 (01:50:03):
Let's begin nowhol Yeah. On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:50:13):
Garrett, what's happening?

Speaker 28 (01:50:15):
Hey, guys, I just wanted to talk about the Astros
pitching staff. I think uh, I think Chris brought it
up previously about how they were maybe overutilizing or underutilizing.

Speaker 7 (01:50:28):
Some pitchers.

Speaker 28 (01:50:30):
I think with Bromber coming off of nine and two
thirds innings and Kakuchi throwing one hundred innings the or
one hundred pitches the game before, what are your thoughts
about management of expectations in that next in that very
next start, five and two thirds from those guys or
five and a third from those guys seems like a pretty.

Speaker 4 (01:50:51):
Good outing, thank you, Garrett. I think with.

Speaker 3 (01:50:58):
Fromber, we'll see, I mean we see outings of seven
eight innings sometimes complete games, and then we'll see, uh,
you know, five and two thirds, five and a third,
six innings, whatever the case is. I think it's all
going to go into like matchups, right, So if you
get yeah, and just in game matchups as well. And

(01:51:20):
then Kakuchi, I mean each outing for him has been
either five and the thirds or five and two thirds.
He just for whatever reason can't go through six innings.
He's got a lot of deep counts. But getting Verlander
back and adding.

Speaker 4 (01:51:30):
For those five and two thirds or five and a third,
he's doing his thing. Yeah, and I understand that you'd
like him to get into the sixth inning, there is
no doubt. But as you move forward, you're right, you
may go five and a third and say, man, Okay,
he's doing fine, but we like this matchup better with
our pitcher. And again, you may pull him out when
he's got another inning left in him.

Speaker 10 (01:51:49):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
That'll all depend on freshness too, for the rest of
the bullpen and how many as you've utilized. So that's
where I was going to go in.

Speaker 3 (01:51:54):
It has to do with freshness, and uh, if you
can get into a six man rotation when Earliner comes back,
that's just going to add days off, more days off,
more length all of yeh. Length, that's the word I'm
looking for. Yeah, there's no question about it. So getting
him back is going to be a big key for
everybody because you can give her now blanco. You can
have him skip a start if you want, because you
can tell he's laboring. So we'll see, uh how he

(01:52:16):
does tonight. He is on the Buffle's Doctor Biscuit. What's
that biscuit?

Speaker 22 (01:52:20):
Hey, Seanlima, Sean, Yeah, and yeah you can't say it, Sean.

Speaker 8 (01:52:25):
That got you.

Speaker 22 (01:52:27):
Guys got a lot of good callers man, like I'm
from the South Side, like Q dropping knowledge and stuff.
But Sean, I love me some Miss Carrol Man.

Speaker 4 (01:52:37):
Man oh, man. Yeah, she gives me some juice.

Speaker 22 (01:52:42):
Man, She give me some juice.

Speaker 12 (01:52:43):
Man.

Speaker 8 (01:52:43):
It reminds me my mom.

Speaker 22 (01:52:44):
Man, got rist so man and Miss Carroll calls and
just hearing the talk.

Speaker 8 (01:52:48):
Man, that's firing.

Speaker 4 (01:52:50):
She loves as much as anybody I've ever met. Yeah,
no doubt.

Speaker 22 (01:52:55):
Oh man, I just love hear Miss Carrol.

Speaker 4 (01:52:58):
Man.

Speaker 22 (01:52:58):
Butalima, I'm meant to ask you the other day, little
leave men, because you're in You're in the heat of
it now. You be playing in these tournaments and different
things played throughout the tournament. Or is it just somebody
that played well in a couple of games or whatever.

Speaker 4 (01:53:15):
Say that again, biscuit. We kind of lost you for
a second.

Speaker 22 (01:53:19):
I say, when it comes to tournaments, little limbo, do
you do you desire consistency throughout the tournament when you
have a player that plays well in every game, or
to hop out, a player that plays our standard in
a couple of games. You know what I'm going to
about the Olympics.

Speaker 4 (01:53:35):
YEA, give me consistency, that's it.

Speaker 22 (01:53:39):
I mean, I understand Curry ben us out in the
last two games, but it was a coble games and
Curry didn't do it to anything you gotta give it
to Lebron Man. He led the team in rebounds that assists.
Come on, man, I just I think we just always
over blow stuff because of one little thing that mighty
have it or you know, and and Curry, don't get
me wrong, Man was four to three in the fourth

(01:54:02):
quarters in the Bone Metal game and that was that
was my TV. But give me the consistency, man.

Speaker 4 (01:54:10):
I think for me, I'd always take consistency over flash, sure,
because the down moments are really down on some and
the great moments matter, and you know what you do
need You need the flash and the consistent of the
great moment, the biggest at the biggest time. We're Curry
put on that show. But the everyday grind of Lebron
and players like that that every day you're gonna get

(01:54:32):
and even if they don't play well in one part,
their consistency allows them to take over games in other parts.
I think that's a big part. I think most coaches
want consistency over man. Did you see him about every
fourth game? He's got the flair for the dramatic. That's fine,
and Danny, as long as that flare matters in a game,
that's important. I think most of us. In my case,

(01:54:54):
I'll always take a guy who beats me boring. I mean,
did I got that. It's beating other teams boring than
beating them with one side arm throw off platform. That's
all fun and that gets the highlights. But what gets
the wins and the longevity is consistency in every way,
shape and form. Appreciate call no, no, go ahead, go ahead,

(01:55:18):
biscuit finish point man.

Speaker 22 (01:55:19):
I just I just think we we just get caught
up in the recency of things, man, because I see
guys now now shot they want to put Curry, really
want to put Curry in front of Magic Man.

Speaker 8 (01:55:30):
You don't get out.

Speaker 4 (01:55:31):
They gotta they gotta stop stop that. If you want
to talk about just shooting, and he's a great player,
but the best shooter. Yeah, you got the argument, but
let's stop on who the best point guard in NBA
history is. It's it's not stop that argument, okay, because
as far as all around and do what he did,
it's Magic Johnson period. And we know this all right.

(01:55:56):
I guess I think lost him, but I think he
agrees that he he didn't. Anybody is Steph Hey, he's
also in the photo. But When it comes to the
best all around point guard consistent night in and night out,
Irvin Magic Johnson's that guy. You want a guy who's
gonna knock down shots and be speacation. There is no
doubt Magic couldn't shoot like Steph. So there's a lot
of things Steph does. The Magic I mean a lot

(01:56:18):
of things that Magic did that Steph can't do is consistently. Well, yeah,
there's no doubt. Yes, Crazy, there's a place for both
of them. But you know who youre running out there
is your starting point guard, Magic Johnson. Yeah. Now, if
you want to tell me, well, we're going to switch
Steph to the two where he can catch and go,
go ahead if you like it there. But when it
comes to point guards, stop it. Yeah, it's it starts
with one and ends with one. And that guy played

(01:56:38):
in Los Angeles for his whole career.

Speaker 3 (01:56:40):
Yeah, there's no question about it. All Right, let's let's
get into the nine o'clock hour. Let's talk a little Texans.
Fox Sports just put up their top ten NFL teams
leading into the regular season.

Speaker 4 (01:56:53):

Speaker 1 (01:59:30):

Speaker 3 (01:59:38):
Fox Sports released their top NFL teams heading into this
upcoming season.

Speaker 4 (01:59:47):
Who do you?

Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:59:48):
There we go? So you're looking for me? Tod Yeah,
got them? Huh I am? I would say. So this
is Fox's group of people that pick this yep by
their number one team is going to be the Chiefs.
It is number two is gonna very be the forty
nine Ers. It is number three. Baltimore Nope, Cincinnati Nope,

(02:00:12):
I'm leaving somebody. Let's see number three a AFC North,
AFC East. I know it can't be. So the forty
nine ers Philly, Nope, They've got Philadelphia number four. So
number three that's not named the San Francisco forty nine

(02:00:35):
Ers in the NFC.

Speaker 3 (02:00:36):
Detroit Detroit Allion's number three Philadelphia Eagles number four.

Speaker 4 (02:00:41):
Can you guess number five? Baltimore? No Cincinnati Nope, AFC, NFC, AFC,
Jets nope, Texans correct. They got the Texas at number five,
number six NFC. Then I've left out Let's see, so

(02:01:03):
still NFC. You said it can't be green Bay. It's
green Bay already. Number seven is AFC Baltimore Nope? Jets
no Sincy. Yes, Number eight? What conference? AFC Baltimore it
is Baltimore? Number nine? Also AFC number nine, Jets nope.

(02:01:28):
Also AFC Cleveland Browns. Cleveland Brown's coming in at number ten.
Number nine is AFC Jacksonville No Chargers, No AFC. What
conference am I left out? AFCA?

Speaker 24 (02:01:43):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (02:01:43):
Buffalo? Correct?

Speaker 3 (02:01:44):
Buffalo, Kansas City, San Francisco, the Lions, the Eagles, the Texans,
the Green Bay Packers, the Baltimore excuse me, the Cincinnati Bengals,
the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo Bills, and the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 4 (02:01:59):
Green Bay off high, Texans pretty damn high for one
year of it. They're they're looking at a roster that
was good last year and got better this year. High praise.
Top five, yeah, top five. There's a lot of that's
that's all that's Read it once if you're the Texans

(02:02:20):
and move on, because all it is is somebody's opinion.
Got to go take care of your business. But that's
a that's a good feeling.

Speaker 3 (02:02:27):
Sure is where are the Jets on this list?

Speaker 4 (02:02:33):
Some hold the Jets in the highest regard and some
think they're I don't want to say fraudulent, but some
think they're overrated. So for me, I I'm just trying
to figure out if you like the roster, do you
not trust the play caller offense? And do not trust
the head coach? Is that part of it? Defensively they're loaded.

(02:02:53):
I know it's in the Hassan Reddick stuff that's going on,
right We got that drama as well. But a defense,
it's pretty pretty damn good. A running game that's solid
and got some home run hitter ability, wide receiver positions
pretty damn good. And you got the best quarterback. Well,
in truth, you have the best quarterback in Jet's history.

(02:03:16):
Now I understand Brett Farv too. You could say that
who's ever career you like better? But for a two
or three year period of time, you're going to get
I mean as much as I love name with and
what he did is you're talking about just statistics and performance.
This is the best they've ever had go through there.
So the question, maybe questions loom is where how deeply

(02:03:38):
into it is he and how healthy is he going
to be with coming off an Achilles injury? So I
get the questions, But if Aaron Rodgers plays a full season,
this team is going to be formidable unless they have
fifty other injuries. Right. I mean, they've got players. They
have a good roster. They do.

Speaker 3 (02:03:58):
They have a good roster, sure, and you know what,
the Robert solid defense, you know it's going to be good.
That's what kept him in games last year. And they
had Zach Wilson at quarterback in whoever else they sent
out there, Mike White and everybody.

Speaker 4 (02:04:07):
See. The difference is they've had quarterbacks in the last
handful of years that tried to keep you in games
and defense would hold up and make a play once
in a while. Offensively, now you have a quarterback that
can carry you and they can make plays and can
overcome a bad defensive day or a bad running game
day because he's so gifted throwing the football. The Jets
haven't had that and who knows how long they thought

(02:04:30):
they got it in Zach Wilson, but they didn't. I
think a lot of us thought they had the ability
of Zach Wilson through the roof, the execution of it
not so much. And so now he's in Denver and
it's Aaron Rodgers. But what they've been lacking is a
quarterback that can win games for you regularly. They've had
a quarterback that had to find a way not to

(02:04:52):
lose games for you regularly. So now they got the
best of both worlds, a pretty dominant defense when they're
right and healthy, and they've got a quarterback who's a playmaker. Yeah,
what's not to like. Yeah, I'm just a little surprised
at them. I think they're undervalued at times. Now it's
I understand it's the Jets, But if they're healthy, how
are they not in contention in a very difficult America

(02:05:13):
I mean AFC East, they've got to be I mean
put it this way. Their opponents will know they're going
in to play the Jets. I and Aaron Rodgers, I
assure you they'll be in for a fight.

Speaker 3 (02:05:24):
Yeah, they got the Jets have some drama with this
a Sonreddick thing as well, you got Son Reddick? Where
was he prior Philly? Philly wanted out of there, got
his wish, wanted a restructure contract, didn't get it, hasn't
gotten in with the Jets, and now he's demanding a
trade from the Jets. I don't think he's played play

(02:05:45):
he played for the Jets, yet.

Speaker 4 (02:05:46):
He likes his money.

Speaker 3 (02:05:48):
And then the GM for the Jets comes out and says, yeah,
we're not trading you like at all. So per the CBA,
we're gonna find you every time that you don't show.

Speaker 4 (02:05:59):
Up right, which eventually he'll show up yeah and play pissed,
and maybe it'll work to his advantage. But he's a
really good player and a disruptor, a big time disruptor.
But it's and when people say is it a distraction,
they're talking about that on TV. I've heard this conversation. Listen.
It was never a distraction. During training camp. You're so

(02:06:21):
concerned about getting yourself right for camp. You're not worried
about something, and most guys aren't into the other guy's
wallet about his contract is money. Now as you loom closer,
it's not a distraction. It's just we're worse off, Yeah,
because we don't have them. That's my fuel, right, he's
not getting paid. That's when it becomes a week of
preparation or ten days heading into the opening game of
the season. Because during training case, oh it'll venture we

(02:06:44):
all have that thought, Oh it'll eventually get worked out too.
Everything's going to get fine. We got to go out
and take care of our business. Got to coach the
players that are here. All the stuff you've heard a
million times, it's no distraction. It's not getting the way
you're practicing to ours reddick or not. Matter of fact,
the jersey numbers and names on them don't mean a
hill of beans where you're just practicing right. To most players,
they're not even thinking about the thing. When my hand's
on the dirt, I gotta block this guy, and when

(02:07:05):
I'm broughping back to bass, I gotta make this throw.
But when it does become a problem is when one
of your best players is not there when you're preparing
for the opening week, because it does change the way
the team they're opening against will prepare, and it changes
the way that Robert Sala and his defense will call

(02:07:25):
plays because the guy is a major disruptor. I don't
think it's a problem now, but the closer it gets,
it becomes a problem talent wise. Not Oh, he's a
distraction because he wants money. Most players want get want
to get paid, so distraction now know, but it's a
it's a problem as they get closer gate just team wise,

(02:07:46):
as you're taking away. Imagine Denil Hunter not being here.
Don't you think it's a little damn you you know
what I mean? Yeah, that would suck because he's such
a gamer, dominant player.

Speaker 3 (02:07:56):
Right, But wouldn't you think that the front office for
the Jets would want to do anything and everything to
have one of your best players on the field, Because
if they don't have a good season, Robert sala is
going to get fired. That they're all gone. Om's probably
going to get fired. They're all done, right, I get that.

Speaker 4 (02:08:12):
Let me ask you this, how often do you continue
to tear up contracts and rip up contracts and give
guys new contracts that are already under contract. What makes
what makes that I have to do? Yeahs fair point.
I mean I'm seeing it from the other team.

Speaker 7 (02:08:27):
Now.

Speaker 4 (02:08:27):
If he was, like, if there was something the offseason,
why aren't you talking to him, what's going on? You move?
But to me, he's got a contract. That's why they
can find him. If he didn't have a contract, they
wouldn't be able to find him. But he's got a contract,
so they can find him at mandatory training camp every
single day. So just look at it from the other side.
Why is it that every time a players in a

(02:08:48):
in a year that he wants a new contract, that
I have to that I have to bow down to
his request.

Speaker 3 (02:08:53):
Yeah, he's maybe doesn't fit into my team right now. Yeah,
this is the last year of his contract, right, So okay,
you go out your risk, let him go out and
be able.

Speaker 4 (02:09:02):
He's in a lame duck season where he can go
out and be a free I get all the risk,
and maybe it doesn't happen now, But there's two sides
to it. I mean, you are under contract and you're
getting paid handsomely to go play. You want more great.
I understand he's worried about injury in a contract. I
get all that. But from the team's point standpoint, I
do understand their point of you are under contract when

(02:09:26):
it's a four year deal, it's not a three year deal.
It's a four year deal, and when it's a five
year deal, it's not a four year deal. It's a
five year deal. Now we can choose in certain years
to redo it. But in truth, he is under contract.
There's no obligation to get it done other than the
feel good because you want one of your best players.
And I don't know what's going on behind the closed
doors and how much he's requesting or if it's if

(02:09:48):
they're so far apart. But to the team's point, he's
under contract, right, Well, he's going to get pissed off
and and still under contract. Eventually he's either going to
show up or he's gonna find out the wazoo so
or he's gonna get a new deal, or he's gonna
get traded. And when he gets traded, is it gonna

(02:10:08):
be signed and trade or is it going to be
trade him? And then now he's back to it working out.
I got to work a deal with these guys where
they sign him the next day. I don't know, but
he is under contract and he is getting paid when
he shows up and getting fined. That's exactly right every
time he does not show up.

Speaker 3 (02:10:23):
All right, let's let's talk more Texans to Miko Ryan

Speaker 3 (02:12:35):
Talking a little Texans before we get back to a
Astros baseball Dimiko Ryan spoke about his team practicing in
the hot ass weather here in Houston.

Speaker 4 (02:12:44):
This is what Coach Ryan's had to say.

Speaker 17 (02:12:46):
Our sports performance they have does a great job of
puy so we're ready to push through and go.

Speaker 4 (02:12:52):
Have a little little uh technical difficulty there, Well we'll
get us that technical difficulty. That was you talking, man.

Speaker 3 (02:13:02):
He didn't say anything though, No, I know it was
triple He's got audio running on his side.

Speaker 4 (02:13:07):
Oh of uh, we're talking about Hasan Reddick like and
his money. Yeah, don't blame him, all right, I like him.

Speaker 3 (02:13:12):
I like his bunny too, Yeah, don't we All All right,
let's let's hear from Coach Ryan's.

Speaker 17 (02:13:18):
Our sports performance staff does a great job of preparing
our guys. So we're ready to push through. And guys,
their bodies are good pushing through. It's more mental as
opposed to their bodies. It's just a more It's a
mental thing, and that's what playing in the NFL is about.
Everybody's about the same physically, but how do you separate
yourself mentally? That's where you separate the best from the rest.

Speaker 3 (02:13:41):
That's Tamiko RAN's talking about practicing the heat. Will Kunkle,
sports director over at Fox twenty six Sports, posted that
I saw that it's all about mental dude, Come on.

Speaker 8 (02:13:53):
But.

Speaker 4 (02:13:55):
If it's and it's a good question, but if it's
ninety degrees in the morning and ninety four in the afternoon,
it's Texas. We do have to play in it. Now.
It doesn't mean you put on gear and wear people
out and beat them into the ground on a regular basis, right,
But it is okay to practice times every day. Plus

(02:14:18):
they play the noon game. Yeah, and September and a
lot of places is still hot. And to me, the
only way you get used to doing something is by
doing it. And I don't know if you ever get
fully used to playing in the humidity and heat of
the Texas summer, but guess what you got to and
so and it is a mindset now physically where I'm

(02:14:39):
at now, coach can control drills and how much you're
beating them down and post practice, how much you're running.
You're getting a lot of training, your conditioning during practice.
So I don't have a problem with it. And I'm
not to me, it doesn't bother me. It's a valid question.
But the question is, and for me, it's not are

(02:14:59):
you practice? Thing is are you doing it the right way?
And you have to practice and listen it's it's hot, yeah,
And it is a mindset of knowing what you're going
getting in and then letting the control, the coach control
exactly how long and what you're doing, and making sure
that your training staff and the people that are involved

(02:15:20):
in it are making sure and it's on the player
and coming upon the player to know the night before
and two days before, you got to stay hydrated. It's
all part of a very physical and taxing and mind
and body challenging sport, and especially in Texas at this
time of year, it's hard. They're practicing in Arizona and

(02:15:44):
it's a buck, you know, it's a buck to tell
out there, what are you going to do? You got
to practice? Go play golf. Got that they'd love to
do that too. Some won't even play golf. At one
hundred and fifteen, I won and I will so. But
it's an extremely valid question. But how you're coaching and
the players handle it, you got to learn. I've told
you this some million times. You've got to learn how
to practice. Some teams do not know how to practice.

(02:16:08):
That means the players, the coaches when to back off,
when to ramp it up, when to ask for more,
when to give them less, when to give them a
day off or cut practice short. Because they're kicking ass
and they get motivated even with fifteen minutes off of
drill players, there's a feeling. Told you this before. John
Robinson about five days into camp, four days in the camp,

(02:16:28):
would kick us off the field during the morning practice.
Even if we were practicing well, he'd make it sound
like we weren't. This is He'd call us up after
about twenty five minutes to ius, you guys are the
lazy or not moving around coaches. I don't want you
talking to these guys till the afternoon practice. He'd kick
us off the field. Then when you're walking in, he'd
be smirking behind, knowing he wanted to get off the
practice field too, because it was hot, people were tired.

(02:16:49):
He knew the motivation and to get how we got
to the point we accomplish everything. We need to give
him off about the lower last hour and a half
of the morning practice. Let him go in no meetings
between now in the afternoon, which meant go get an
extra nap, grab your food, have the food ready, and
get your button nap. And the inevitably we'd come out
to the afternoon practice on two days and guess what

(02:17:10):
afternoon practice was off the charts just for the fact
that he kicked us off. It was Coach Robinson's speech
won twenty five. But it worked, yeah, because he knew
the timing of when coaches needed everybody's get frustrated, you're sore,
let's get him off. Even if they started off practicing
well in that practice, it was scripted that this is
what's going to happen today.

Speaker 3 (02:17:31):
Get your ass into the locker room. Do you think
I heard this discussion. I think it was a couple
of days ago. Do you think that like, let's go
to high school athletes. Do you think high school athletes
college athletes should have morning workouts like five am, six
am workouts, or you think their sleep is morphing.

Speaker 4 (02:17:48):
You know, when Chip Kelly was at Oregon and they
started that whole process of the way nutrition works and
getting up and practicing before school starts. I think there
is something to it. And we've seen teams do it.
We've seen not only for the heat and all that,
but they do these all these talk about analytics and
all the studies of when's your body respond the best.

(02:18:09):
Now go on and telling a bunch of kids, hey,
you got to get up at four to make it
for five am. Practice on time and in college so
you can make your eight o'clock class. But in truth,
think about it, you're done the rest of the day.
It's like our job here. I mean, there's more demanding,
but we get up early. It's like you're done at ten.
If you want to have another whole career, you can
or you can go do prep, do whatever you want.

(02:18:31):
So I think there's for me. I would love to
practice early, be done, to be able to study tape,
study class, go to class. Then you're three o'clock. Class
in the afternoon is not disrupted, just meetings, right, So
I think there is something to it. But trying to
tell a teenager at sixteen on a daily basis to
get up and practice. Eventually, teenagers younger, they're going to

(02:18:52):
be tired and you got to get rested up. So
you want to give them some rest, let them get
locked in I do think there is a method to
that madness of getting up early and getting it done.
Though when you're at your awake, you've just got to
the shower to get yourself going in the morning where
you're not eating few you know that food we eat
lunch and it bogs you down at two o'clock practice
and meeting. It is so I think it can work
both ways. You got to know your team and you
also have to be awfully disciplined. And remember, if I've

(02:19:14):
told you motivations temporary, you can get them all fired
up for one practice. Discipline is permanent. Yeah, and there
is a difference.

Speaker 3 (02:19:21):
Let's get to break because we're gonna welcome in Astros
General manager Dana Brown to the show next on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:19:27):
We're Fat for the Sewn Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 4 (02:19:32):
Dana Welcome in Dana Brown, Astros GM for his weekly
nine thirty visit on Wednesday. One in a winning streak.
You're on one, my man, Uh gotta be I know it.
I know it's still a ways to go, but it's
about to turn into that four hundred meter leg it
out sprint and you guys are on a pretty good
role and everything seems pitching's been good, bullpen's been good,

(02:19:53):
and the hitting, especially at the top of the lineup.
Guys are producing kind of what you were pining for.
And here we are with a nice win streak and
a chance to sweep a second series in a row
tonight today.

Speaker 8 (02:20:05):
Yeah, we're just about to go into that last lap
of the season, yep. And the boys are playing very well.
You know, we're nine over five hundred, first place by
a game and a half, and the guys have been
playing very well on this road trip, and I give
them all credit for the grit that they've shown this
entire season.

Speaker 4 (02:20:22):
Dane, let me dig into you the emotion as a fan,
but also you got to look at it different as
the general manager. But you're a baseball guy. At what
point just just kind of the emotion that fans go through.
At what point or was there a point this season
that you said, oh damn, we are in trouble. Was
there ever, like from an injury? I know you believe
in him, but was there that point maybe the lowest

(02:20:45):
point for you about your team this year? Do you
remember when that was and how that feeling is now
getting out of that?

Speaker 8 (02:20:52):
Yeah? I mean there was times where you know, things
got tough, but I felt really good about the club.
The thing with me is I've been in baseball so long,
so I know what a bad team looks like. And
so because I still felt like this was a good team,
that we were going to be okay, and so ultimately
from fighting the weather a little bit, but ultimately I
thought like, look, we got some guys hurt, We've got

(02:21:14):
some guys coming as well, and I felt really confident
that these guys would get on the hot street. And
as I mentioned, I've been around baseball a long time
and I know when a team is really bad and
they're on their way down. So ultimately I felt good about,
you know, us being able to put this thing together.
It's just a matter of getting on all cylings, which
we are.

Speaker 4 (02:21:33):
Now that force through the trees you were able to
see and unlike you know, some of us. And it's
been a great reward a game and a half in
front of first place. So let's get to a couple
other things. We were talking Brian and I on this
show yesterday in the day before about this pitching staff's
been so impressive, Hunter Brown's growth, Adam Kokuchi, the way that,

(02:21:53):
you know, the last thirteen strikeouts, the way he's improved
with Araghetti fromber looks like front line ace. I mean,
all up and down they've given you. Hunter Brown's been outstanding.
And you know, with all these injuries, Dana, I guess
this is a great plus. Not the injuries, but you
got guys now that even if those guys were to
come back healthy, all of them, that these guys are

(02:22:15):
making it tough for you to pull them out of
the lineup because they are producing on a regular basis,
which just adds to the incredible depth and the development
of these young pitchers who've come in and done their job,
not the least of which has been Renel Blanco as well.

Speaker 8 (02:22:29):
Yeah, one of the things we knew that we had
to do with the deadline was really firm up this rotation.
Addam Kokushi really solidified the rotation, and it gave us
five really good starters, you know, because we were waiting
for these guys to come back, but in the meantime,
you know, we locked it in with five pretty good starters.

(02:22:50):
You're starting to throw the ball very well. They're giving
us an opportunity to win ball games, and it's been fun.

Speaker 4 (02:22:56):
To watch, Dan, if I told you that this starting
staff was going to give, you know, we're a time
when we don't do complete games for the most part.
With all the specialization in baseball, they're great when you
get them, but it's not like you know, all the
Bob Gibsons and Cofaxes where they're throwing twenty five complete
games a year. So with that, if I told you
were going to get into the fifth inning the rest

(02:23:18):
of the year with your starters, what would your response
be to that and what would the result be for
your team?

Speaker 8 (02:23:25):
Yeah, I would prefer that they get into the sixth inning,
you know, that would be my preference. But if we
get into the five on occasion, you know, we have
a good back end of the bullpen right now that's
throwing the ball very well, and so I would say
that we still have a really good chance of winning
that game. But ultimately, once we get into the sixth

(02:23:46):
and you now and you have to cover. If you
get six innings, you have to cover three.

Speaker 4 (02:23:50):
Yep.

Speaker 8 (02:23:50):
I feel really good about that. But if we get five,
I think we can you know, throw Scott and that
the big boys on the back end, and we're still
in pretty good shape, and so we have some guys
like or that's coming up throwing well, King that's throwing well.
So we still have guys in there that could pitch
six seven if our big boys, you know, are not available.

(02:24:12):
So you know, it's good to see that the teams
on all cylinders with the rotation the bullpen, the bats
are coming together and we're swinging it and you know
we're catching the baseball too, so we're playing pretty good defense.
So ultimately, you know, it leads to some winds in
the windumn.

Speaker 4 (02:24:28):
Yeah, it sure does in a winning streak and the
first place by a game and a half. And here
we are in just in the the infancy in the
early days of August, with a good stretch und ahead.
All right to Kakuchi. We want to go back to him.
We know the result he's done in his three starts
has been really really good and keeping runs, you know,
people from crossing the plate doing his thing. After three starts,

(02:24:52):
we people want to know, Okay, well he's better here.
Why And I know he's using more, you know, to
change up more and off speed stuff. But Dana, you
got to get buy in, and he's bought in. Why
did the buy in happen so quick. That wasn't happening
in Toronto.

Speaker 8 (02:25:07):
Well, the one thing I can't speak for Toronto, But
what I will say is I've been saying since day
one when I first got the job, when I got
to spring training in twenty twenty three, I said, Hey,
these guys are really different. They have these breakout sessions
with these pitchers, and they really know how to get
them locked in. They get them focused, they get them prepared,
and I think we do such a good job of that.

(02:25:28):
We get these guys to buy in, we show them
on video, we show them the traits to their stuff,
and then we get them to use that stuff effectively.
And so I've always said, look, this is these are
some of the best pitching people I've been around in
baseball since I've been in the game for thirty five years.
And so ultimately, I think we do a very good

(02:25:50):
job of identifying what guys could do to be successful
and getting them to buy in and trust that we
could you know you, and execute that pitch and get
people out. And so it's been fun to watch, and uh,
you know, it's good to seek. He's off to a
good start. We know we hope that he keeps it up,
and uh, you know, he's pretty much locked in and

(02:26:12):
it's been really fun to watch, Danny.

Speaker 4 (02:26:14):
You mentioned about the teaching and the breakout sessions. Has
there been any mechanical change for Kakuchie or is just
this all believability and having two ears in one mouth
and using them properly, listening to the proper teaching and
then going applying it. Is there something mechanically that he's changed.

Speaker 8 (02:26:31):
I don't think he's anything mechanically. I think it's they're
getting him to buy in his stuff a little bit more.
He's throwing a little less fastballs, a few more sliders,
and and so that mix of a few more changeups,
and so he's starting to use his stuff more effectively.
And uh, you know, that's been the that's been the

(02:26:52):
big deal. The big deal is like we've gotten him
to buy in. Hey, back up on your fastball. You
can touch ninety eight at times, but you're gonna have
you can't just throw fastballs to major league hitters. You've
got to change speech, you've got to mix it up.
He's throwing that change up, he's throwing that slider, and
ultimately I think he's getting results because he bought in.

Speaker 4 (02:27:13):
Dana Brown asked his GM for a couple more minutes
for his weekly nine thirty visit. We're always grateful for that,
joins us here on Sports Talk seven ninety. All Right,
doesn't appear to be any glaring weakness from my naked eye.
I mean, you guys looking fine toothcomb and deeper into it.
But in your mind, what still if there's something that
maybe is in your crawl a little bit, what needs
to be fixed for you guys to get to another level.

(02:27:35):
Is there a weakness that you say we got to
fix that.

Speaker 8 (02:27:39):
Well, we just need to get Tucker back. And so
you've been noticing more often that you know, they're walking
ran on yep, and Diaz has been stepping up. Yes,
you know, but how much fun would it be to
have h Tucker and died behind your on? And so
I think once that happens, I think this often is

(02:28:00):
really gonna explode when we get Tucker back. And so
that's the one thing that I'm you know, hopeful for.
He's doing more baseball activity on the field. You know,
he's getting better. He's not there yet, but he's moving
around well. And it's amazing that we've been playing so
well without him, but when it comes down to the
stretch and that final sprint, we're definitely going to need

(02:28:22):
him and he should be available for us by that time.
And so ultimately, if we get Tucker back, you're going
to see this team really take off.

Speaker 4 (02:28:29):
So you you are optimistic that this is starting to
roll the way you want to with Tucker's health. No
time frame, but better, is that what.

Speaker 8 (02:28:37):
You're saying, Yeah, yes, yes, yes, sir. You know the
fact that he's on the field doing some baseball activities
and I know he's not one hundred percent, but the
fact that you get out there and each day you
try to say, okay, let me go a little bit further,
let me go a little bit further, and before you
know it, you know you're doing some good things. You're
up to fifty percent and you're back to one hundred percent.

(02:28:59):
You're ready to go. And so ultimately, the boys have
been showing a lot of grit holding it down. We're
getting it done even though he's on the il. But
when we get Tucker bat, I think this lineup will
score more runs. I think you know we're gonna we're
gonna our starters will continue to go deep into games,
and then we'll rest our bullpen a little bit and

(02:29:20):
then you know, we get JV back. Also, we may
go to a six man rotation like you guys did
in twenty twenty two before I got here. Yep, and
you get to that six man rotation. Now you get
your guys a little bit rest more rest toward the
end of the season. You have six quality starters and
you could usher that right into uh some wins and
and potentially get this division one. So uh that's the

(02:29:43):
main goal. Win the division first and then we go
deep into the postseason. That's the goal.

Speaker 4 (02:29:47):
So let's you know, let's go, hey, is Verlander one
more start minor leagues and then we'll see him or
what's the what's the timeframe for him?

Speaker 8 (02:29:56):
Yeah, I mean he's moving along very well. A big
part of these start How do you feel the next day?
So we'll know more once he pitches tomorrow. I think
he has a Thursday game. He's going to pitch for
Corpus in Arkansas, So once he throws tomorrow, we'll know. Friday, Saturday, Okay,
how do you feel day a day or two after
and then we could make our adjustment from there. So

(02:30:18):
by you know, of course, by next next week when
we talk, I'll have a lot more information for you
on Erlander. But he's coming along very well. He was
ninety three to ninety five. Want to wipe out breaking ball,
they said the other day. And you know, our data
and information looked good. And you know, we had a scout,
you know, one of our veteran scouts, Rest Brobay, was
in the ballpark when he threw the other day. So yeah,

(02:30:40):
what Verlanders looking very good and we're very helpful, Dana.

Speaker 4 (02:30:44):
One thing we don't get to talk about much is
like when we see from last year to this year,
and things change any year, but you got to see
Chas McCormick and was really a big time player for
this team, did some phenomenal things. Well, why the fall off?
You you see your baseball Get what's going on with
Chas mcorn that we don't see?

Speaker 8 (02:31:02):
Yeah, I think the minor adjustment that he made to
his stance, you know, maybe uh, you know something that
we we should really look at. And ultimately I still
believe in Chad. I mean, if we can get.

Speaker 4 (02:31:14):
In a in a clutch situation, Danny you'd run him
out there still in a clutch situation. You trust that
you you're not going to pinch it for him. It's
a seventh inning and you've got to have him. You
believe that he's going to pull through with that play
right now.

Speaker 8 (02:31:27):
Well, look that's true. A spot IS's decision, and he's
going to do it based on you know, it's got
an information that he's used him down there. But I
still believe in Jazz. I think that you know, he's
that one week away from you know, uh, really turning
the corner. You know, HiT's coming bunches, and if we could,
if he could put together three or four good games

(02:31:48):
in a week, I think that would make a difference
for his mental makeup because oftentimes you lose confidence when
you're struggling this bad. And you know, I still believe
in Chad. I mean, you just don't fall off a cliff.
From a baseball perspective, the guy had over an over
an eight hundred ops last year exactly, and over twenty
home run He's a good defender. He's frustrated right now

(02:32:12):
because he's going through such a downward spiral, but ultimately,
you know, you're looking at a guy that may get
hot in September and roll that right into the postseason
and we'll be all happy.

Speaker 4 (02:32:23):
And the final question, d has his growth this year
not only behind the plate, but as a hitter, not
just a guy with power, but as a hitter. And
you put him in the middle of that lineup and
Joe and making this decision, and you mentioned Tucker and
DZ hitting behind Alvarez. What a great gig. Can you
just real quick maybe elaborate on why he's gotten so
much better and become like the professional hitter. We're not

(02:32:45):
just relying on power. The guy puts the ball in
play and is really good. And now you got him
at first base. I imagine with DH first base and catcher,
keeping his bat in the lineup's got to be a
top priority no matter what day it is. Correct, Yeah,
keeping his bat.

Speaker 8 (02:32:58):
In the lineup, he is a top part already. But
when you look at DZ and I really paid close
attention to him last night, here's a guy that really
swinging the bat very well, and ultimately he's like a
little kid out there. He is having fun. All of
the smiles and everything he's locked in right now, What
a great feeling of just being locked in and having

(02:33:21):
some success at the big league level and just having
a little kid in you just show up every night
at the ballpark, and he's bringing energy, he's bringing good
at bats, he's driving the ball, he's driving runs in
and so ultimately he's having you know, quality at baths
and so what a what a bundle of joy it
is to watch him and to just see him smile

(02:33:44):
out there on the field but just have a good
time and not worry about, you know anything. And so
he's catching well, he's of course throwing well, he's hitting well,
he's showing power. He's a complete player right now. It's
pretty exciting.

Speaker 12 (02:33:56):
One.

Speaker 4 (02:33:56):
Yeah, two months into the twenty twenty three season, you
said that's our catch sure of the future as a
backup to Tamaldonado. And here we are more than a
year later, and not only is the catcher of the future,
the catcher of the present playing like an All star
and hitting in the middle of your lineup. It's been
a blast to see and to have all that come
to fruition. Dana, great stuff, good luck today on another
finish out a series sweep, and look forward to our

(02:34:20):
visit next Wednesday and hopefully we'll have more Kyle Tucker
and Verlander news.

Speaker 8 (02:34:23):
Then absolutely, let's go.

Speaker 4 (02:34:27):
I appreciate you, Thank you.

Speaker 8 (02:34:28):
Dana.

Speaker 4 (02:34:28):
That's Dana Brown will come back and discuss. We wrap
it up here, some insight and a little knowledge, and
hopefully Tucker is going to be back after Verlander and for.

Speaker 3 (02:34:37):
The Sean Salisbury Show continued, Tom, thanks for rolling. We
got about a minute for you. What's on your mind?

Speaker 24 (02:34:45):
What about a high school coach that has his team
as PUNCHMNT do bear crawls up and down the entire
links of the field in the heat and for.

Speaker 10 (02:34:58):
The entire practice on a field, or the kids are
coming into the training room and being treated for blisters
on our hands.

Speaker 4 (02:35:08):
He should be fine. He should be suspended. Yes, I mean,
now we're talking overboard. You know this. Aren't we past
the punishment of somebody jumps off sides and we make
them for forty I understand, you make a guy run
a lap or discipline them, but put them down there
where we'll put them in. Now we're talking. We've gone
over to both football. Now we're talking about just sheer, ego,

(02:35:29):
stupidity and pride. If that's the guy leading a program
there's a difference team being tough and being stupid. That's
just ignorant on hot turf in Texas or Louisiana and
you're putting blisters on your hands and it's a full
practice of punishment in this heat. That's a guy who's
begging for a lawsuit, is what it is. And it's
a it's a bummer. But discipline is one thing, but

(02:35:50):
stupidity is another. I don't know who it is, and
I don't need to, but I can tell you this
that we got to be past that, now, don't we
We got to be past that. That's ignorant.

Speaker 10 (02:36:00):
He also made the teams do scour hundred up and downs?

Speaker 9 (02:36:04):
What school?

Speaker 4 (02:36:05):
What schooling team was this? Tom?

Speaker 10 (02:36:08):
He's not there anymore?

Speaker 4 (02:36:09):
Yeah, but what is this in Louisiana, Texas? Where recent?
When was this.

Speaker 10 (02:36:18):
Two seasons ago?

Speaker 4 (02:36:19):
Okay?

Speaker 10 (02:36:20):
My daughters a trainer for the team.

Speaker 4 (02:36:22):
Let's hope that that doesn't happen in updowns. Here's what
I say, how a been When a coach makes a
screwed up call, or or does someone in any in
a game or in practice makes the wrong call, then
maybe we should have him match us, and he needs
to do four hundred updowns and run the length of
the field, bear crawling on turf in a hundred degree
whether when it's one hundred and twenty on turf. So
if he makes a mistake that calls me wrong call

(02:36:43):
or it makes a wrong call, are we allowed to
punish him too, Or if he's two minutes late for
a meeting, punish him like that? Yeah, yes, stop it.
It's just dumb. Yes, that that's ego and pride and
that's that's that's that power hungry crap that we don't
need coaching kids. I'm all for discipline, I'm not all
for stupidity. Maybe there's a reason why he's not coaching

(02:37:04):
them anymore. That would be one of them, I'm sure.
I mean, get to a point where like, come on, dude,
this is not a surpus and a clown show works assistance.
I would have been like, hey, man, yeah, it comes
to a point right, Well, you guys have the guts
to tell your head coach this is absolutely this is
this is absurd stupid. Yeah, these are kids, man, right,
even though you know them kids. Yeah, situation with the kids.

(02:37:27):
I'm with the kids on that one. Hey, if you
missed the Dana Brown interview. It's going up on the
blog after the show at Sports seven ninety dot com.
We'll discuss more of what he says, especially about JANR. Diez,
Chas mccormicks struggle. Asher's going for this weep tonight. He
is Sean Salisbury, our producer. A great yeah man, Stay
cool out there, dog, you know what I mean, Stay
sweet and done ever change. Make sure you signed my yearbook.

(02:37:49):
I will see at the beach TRIPOLEI is our producer.
Iyan Brian Lima. Thank you for listening. We're back tomorrow
morning at six a m. Don't go anywhere. Next up
we stand Northley. Chris Cordy coming up next right here
