Speaker 1 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury usc truth longtime friend shown Salisbury, Ryan Lima,
go lobo, this is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's so bro out of there. Cancel the parade. Why
did you say good morning? It is a good morning?
Good morning when you can't know why?
Speaker 4 (00:32):
You know why?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Why?
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Every day is a good morning when you're above dirt.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
No, you're you're on the right side of the dirt. Sorry,
right side of the dirt. That's the same. Yeah, you
feel me.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
Dog, I'm picking up what you're putting down.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Let me, let me. Let me just make a point clear.
By the way, just to tease this, there's a new
there's a new member of the raw dogging family. Different
meaning for it. Okay, I'm listening to the Highway coming
in on Syria x M. And they started talking about
and saying, what is this grou dude? She said, raw dogging.
(01:08):
I'm like, what the hell are they about to talk about?
I thought this is just as wackle as our show. Yeah,
and they started they kicked into what people are calling
is a new meaning to the phrase raw dogging.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Uh huh, you want to hear it? Yeah, I'm intrigued.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, people getting on planes, sitting straight feet on the ground,
staring straight ahead, either reading like the stuff in the
end of the seat, not getting up, not asking for water,
not there's gays is seven eight hours of this? Yeah,
I'm about to raw dog this plane, right, yeah, right, yeah. Now,
first off, what kind of idiot sets for seven hours?
(01:47):
First of all, it's not healthy. You got to get up,
move around, you know, unless you got those compression socks on.
No water do you You don't peet none of it.
You sit and stare straight ahead, don't say a word,
don't do anything for She said, there's one flight across
like it was either seven or twelve hours. Again, remember
the person that did the same thing. And I'm just
trying to figure out what are you trying to accomplish?
Speaker 5 (02:07):
What?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
So we get that was cool? I mean, what's the
accomplishment here? There is no accomplish not it. It's just stupidity,
stupid half post it right, It's like half the stuff
that goes on in society. Now it's stupid and I
don't understand it. And the people that are doing it, yes,
now they're there. You can't. Oh well, Sean, maybe it's
a discipline fact no, it's just stupidity.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Okay, but the name for it is raw dogging. Yeah,
I saw that, now that makes sense. Yeah, yeah, I've
seen videos of people being like I can't wait till
raw dog this six hour flight and like what I
mean up there and they're like in the middle seat too,
and I'm like, what are you doing raw dogging?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
When I say raw dog out a plane them and say, well,
who has it? I mean I met raw dog like
they're doing it. That's what I bet you know. So
I just wanted to get your day started with that
since you said hey, good morning and then decided to
buzz kill the morning by saying Astros lose, right, and
then Duran durand get him out of music video stopped.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
He was on base five times yesterday.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And they sad he Homer the day before so and
then you then, so I have to ease the pain
with a little uh no pun intended raw dog, right,
But that's it's not what you think it is. There's
no phrase, so there you go.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Also, I don't want to add any other negatory assault
the injury. Yeah, but uh Ben Affleck Jennifer Lopez calling
it quits.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Mm hmm it's now. Uh, but that's okay. I got
news for that'll in too, because she didn't. She ain't
keep it a relationship. No, not because of you, but hey,
you can at least you can, uh, you know, you
can dabble, you know what I'm saying. Because she ain't
sticking around. It's like the what you know, the gems
(03:48):
Aniston Lopez can't quite the relationship thing is just kind
of difficult on them. Isn't over the long haul. Yeah,
but I'm blaming it on them. I'm just saying, I'm
sure Benji Afflecks, you know, can be and Jen Garner,
she's part of the Jen family. She is. Yeah, we
got Jen, Jen and Jen.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
It's like Ed, Ed and Nettie. Yeah. Carton, Yeah, you
know the cartoon. Yeah, so triple he wants a shot
at the title. He does and lopes. Yeah otherwise notice, yeah,
word on the streets.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Ben Affleck did not show any interest in fixing the
marriage with Jennifer Lopez, so she's ready to move on.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
There you go. But did you think, no, I don't
really want to look miserable. Did you think that when
it first started that it was actually going to be
forty Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward around right?
Speaker 4 (04:34):
You know Paul Newman is, right? I know Paul Hayman?
Do you do you know that?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Just hip me? Do you know who Paul Newman? Don't
you dare touch that machine? I don't want who Paul
Newman is. You don't know who Paul Newman is? Truman Files, Joe,
do you realize that I'm asking? Don't touch that yet? Okay, okay,
don't don't look and starts saying.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Oh, I knew who he was. You do not know
if Paul Newman is. I'm assuming he's some kind of actor.
You're assuming.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
So when I say Paul Newman, they don't have a
Hollywood marriage like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. You don't
even know what I'm talking about. I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Huh wait, isn't he the guy?
Speaker 6 (05:07):
Wasn't he? Uh not?
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Jay Leno?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Wasn't he? Are you asking me or telling me? I
know the answer to this? Hold on?
Speaker 4 (05:11):
What was uh? We not talking about Paul Rudd? No,
not Paul Rudd? No, No, you had David Letterman? What
was his bald guy's name?
Speaker 5 (05:20):
On that?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Paul Paul Newman. Yeah, that's Uh, that was Paul Paul,
but it's he's that's not Paul Newman.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
No, okay, that that the guy with David Letter. But
that Paul is way cooler than Paul Newman.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Let me ask you again, don't touch that. You don't
know who Paul new leave your hands. I have no idea.
Oh he was a race car driver, philanthropius and an entrepreneur. No,
he wasn't a race car driver.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
That's what it says Paul Newman, Paul Leonard Newman race
car That's not how people know Paul Newman. He went
to Kenyon College and also Yale University. I have no
idea who this guy is or was.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Oh, you don't know anything about Uh, you.
Speaker 4 (05:56):
Know him and Robert Redford played Ping Pong together.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
So that's give me a movie that he and Robert
Redford and that I know you haven't seen that.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
That The Miracle. How about I mean not The Miracle,
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I mean I know
who they are.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
You know who, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are. Yeah,
Paul Newman in that, Yeah, with Robert Redford.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Oh, okay, put other movies in slap Shot, Color of Money. So,
wait a minute, he was in cars, Paul Newman was
in cars?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yes, what color? We wait a minute, you didn't see.
Let's go back for a second. Blaze, go no, go back,
you're name of hitting all this famous movies, go go back.
What's the first few movies you said?
Speaker 7 (06:33):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (06:34):
What's the one?
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Oh? Keep going, we'll go back.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Oh, oh the ones I was just naming. Yeah, let's see, all.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Right, I got you going off? All time great movies, Sting,
Color of Money, another great movie. Slap Shot, that's the one.
How do you not remember Paul Newman in that?
Speaker 4 (06:53):
I've never actually seen slap Shot?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Keep going? Name another one, you've got to the Verdict.
Another great movie. The Towering Inferno. Okay, The Sense of
Malice another good movie. Cool Hand Luke, one of the
all time greats. That's it. I can't believe you have
never seen that movie. Fat Man and Little Boy. He's done,
(07:18):
He's done it all. Dude, got the Newman's dressing, salad dressing.
You ever seen that when you walk through your euse? No,
he's got one of you got he's got a great
he's got his own salad. Yeah. Wow, you learned something
new every day on this show. You know, interesting, you
didn't know who Paul Newman was. I I will remind
everybody at the top of the every hour that I
asked about Paul Newman, assuming just I even rolled into
(07:39):
we're talking about something else they got, you know, like
Paul Newton, who that's all hard When I said, Paul,
you know, did you think that Ben Affleck and Jennifer
Lopez we're gonna have Paul Newman John Woodward type marriage
in Hollywood? Because they're splitting up? As you told me.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
Right right the second time?
Speaker 8 (07:56):
Man?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Right, Well, you didn't think going in that was gonna happen.
You hope, first success, but you didn't think that this
was They weren't long for this.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
It didn't seem right. No, no, No, that's time wrong.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
No, yeah, John, Paul Newman, you the guy David Letterban's sidekick.
You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, I know exactly
what you're talking about. Shameful. I'll just leave it that now,
back to don't ever go on a plane and raw dog.
You know what that means, right, Tell people again what
it means?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Uh, it means. I learned a new meaning for that phrase,
it's Paul Schaeffer. By the way, there you go. I've
got to put some respect on Paul.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yes, you knew him more than Shame Newman, which is
quite frankly frightening. Why anyway, go ahead and tell me
tell me what rod dogging is on a.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Plane when you just you sit feet on the ground,
hands on the uh, arms on the arm rests, and
you don't move.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
He just stare straight ahead the whole time.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
Sounds awful, true.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
And don't know what nothing, no kind of nothing, no
conversation just on a plane. I don't like.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I would prefer no, no reading a book, no, none
of that. I think that might be the worst. Actually
is when you sit next to somebody they want to
talk your you're off, No thanks, I don't talk when
I get on like either. So there you go, just
as I started off.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
And now that I'm completely mortified and wompy joed. Yes
that you asked me if Paul Newman was Paul Schaeffer.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
All right, Well we got some people already.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
The first thing you said to me was, oh, he's
if you looked up. You didn't look up, actor, philanthropist,
his longtime marriage, race car driver, as if we're talking
about a J foyt okay. It said that, by the way,
the Astros, we're trying to ease your pain from the
Astros loss and durand Ran great group, Dran Durant took over.
(09:37):
It's amazing what he's done. He's Duran. Duran is rejuvenator's career.
Now he's a starting center fielder for the Red Sox.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Incredible Katie Bill at seventy four Astros on Twitter wants
you to hang up on me.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
If you were a car or, I'd have to hang
up if you were in this love together, no studio together.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
If you don't know if we can it works, this
is what we do. We we listened to. We listened
to guys like Mike yesterday. Oh and by the way,
last night's loss completely on Joe at Spot and according
to Mike.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Blame it on him. Yeah, so went intout blaming on
the manager. If you're not hanging up on uh, I uh.
But the difference is, I don't know very few the
call hey, no, Paul Newman is oh yeah, race car driver.
Oh I mean, oh, you're talking about Paul. You talk
about Paul Newman, the Sathman's guy. Yeah, Paul, he started
naving all these careers. He's had the word offset of
what he actually was. Philanthropist, top of the list. But
(10:26):
he was a great actor.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Joanne Woodward longtime actress, Joanne Woodward. Yeah, Joe and Paul.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
You know when they you know, he's got those piercing
blue eyes that you see in Butch Cassidy and the
Sun Dance Kid, great old classic you got to see.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Let's see, uh Joanne Woodward and she went to Sarah
Lawrence College.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
That's okay, hm, but there you go. It's a good
way to start my day. I didn't have I mean
I woke up a little I was a little sluggish
from eighteen holes of golf at twelve forty, right, you
at twelve forty. That'll get you one hundred degrees. That'll
get you going. But I'm you know, see you get it.
What do you need? And you're you pick me up?
Is today the fact that you had no idea who
(11:09):
Paul Newman was. Yeah, No, I didn't. I'm just Paul Newman.
I know who Ryan Newman is, of course you do, Yeah,
but you don't you know who? Uh there, what's the Newman?
That's a singer, country singer. Is there a Newman country singer? Newman?
Speaker 4 (11:25):
No, I don't think so, is it there?
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Okay? Maybe I'm wrong last name, but Newman Joaquen Neeman
is a golfer. I think Jimmy C. Newman. That's not
who I was singing. He passed away in twenty fourteen.
He was a country singer.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
I have no idea that is.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Yeah. Well there, now, now that we've deviated from the
astros loss, we can get back on the reasons why
and Paul Newman Paul Schaeffer like according to Brian, I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
I just Paul Newman was the king of cool, just
like Steve McQueen is what abstitute?
Speaker 3 (12:00):
And said, Steve McQueen, you know any movie? You know
who he is?
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Steve McQueen, I know the name, what movies are seeing?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
A lot?
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Is he?
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Triple? You know who Steve McQueen is.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
McQueen and Newman some heart throbs as people call him
heart throbs. I don't know any of these. You don't
know the heart throbs do.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
The Getaway, the Towering Inferno, the Blob? What do we got?
Speaker 3 (12:28):
McQueen? Keep going back, dude, you're missing a lot of
his good movies.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Uh, Love with the Stranger.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Keep going. Bullet wasn't he wasn't he in bullet?
Speaker 9 (12:37):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Yep, bullet?
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Okay, Okay, I don't keep going. You're missing one. The
Great Escape. That's one of his all time greats. On
his motorcycle, one of the great movies. You gotta go.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
That's a classic movie. Steve McQueen.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Mm hmmm, so there you go. Anyway, I just screwed
the pooch early in the morning, there, buddy. Yeah. Nice.
Not knowing Paul new would be the same, like ten
years from now, you're saying, Sean, do you know who?
I don't know?
Speaker 6 (13:09):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I wouldn't even know how to compare who? Who would
be iconic? Now?
Speaker 5 (13:12):
You know?
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Tom Hanks says, yes, yeah he was. That's about the
same thing. Yeah, he was Woody and Twister about the
same thing. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
The Great Escape was released in nineteen sixty three, and
it received an eight point two out of ten on
IMDb and a ninety four percent rating on Rotten Tomato.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
You gotta watch it. It's a good, great movie. Just
don't great cast and just doesn't seem like I.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Can get into a movie like that that was released
in the sixties.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
So well, if you like the movies that released into
two thousands and you need we need a rain check
on no.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
I like the movies that were released like the nineties,
you know, the eighties, and.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
You're missing out and you're missing out on a ton
of great movies by thinking the sixties.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Is we know this?
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Okay? So if you know what you say, you know,
I want I got nothing to do to How about
two hours of entertainment? I got I got things to do? No,
not all?
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Yeah, I gotta prep for the show, you know, really yeah, yeah,
you know, like at noon the day before. Yeah, pretty much,
that's awesome. I mean it's after my nap. But yes,
oh okay, right, gotcha. So two hours of watching a
movie that came out in nineteen sixty three that probably
isn't even that good, or take a nap. I prefer
the ladder. It's pretty interesting. That's not even that it's interesting.
(14:17):
It's not even good.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
So anyways, cancelor praid the astro, cancelor praide.
Speaker 3 (14:26):

Speaker 3 (16:16):
We'll just grind.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Yeah, I guess you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
They throw a little throw a little TV on and
look what happens.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Yeah yeah, next thing, you know, if you get to
work half days?
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Yeah wow, it would it be great to be a
half day guy, must be, it would be that's a
half day guy.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah. Again, when are the ass gonna go play over in? Like, uh,
I don't know North Korea, South Korea, So I don't
know wherever.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
You're gonna play with where it's like twelve hours difference
that it starts at six pm there and we aired
at six am, and then it goes like twenty eight
innings four perfect, but stops right at like nine to
fifty nine. So everybody else has to work, right, Yeah,
I got you, dog, Yeah, let's make that happen. Do
you think it's a country club? Is what you're saying?
We've created it's a country club. How many how many
(17:01):
hours is Matt Thomas show working today?
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Today? They may have like in like forty five minutes
of on Deck show and then they're done, yeah and
then gets quite literally kicked back in fact cat Yeah,
then the eight team will probably work I don't know
that game. Maybe maybe an hour? Yeah, maybe well they
(17:25):
two hours.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Yeah, well, if it goes one to let's say, even
four four, then.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
They start to agree that it's about two hours. Yeah,
got a bad gig. It's about half of what we do,
you know. No, no worries though, Yeah, we just grind.
Baby might be a little jealous, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Of course there's nbing the voice.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
All right. So we had a couple of callers. I
guess the other one dropped off that once. I'm sure
I'm about to get my assort about Paul Newman.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
In fact that you don't know Paul Newman or Steve
McQueen is elevated you to a whole new status which
was really questionable in the first place.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
With the legendary legends. Yeah, well unbelievable. I'll see what
Tom's got to say.
Speaker 11 (18:02):
Hey Tom, Hey, good morning guys. I don't know about
handing you your ass but I want to tell you
about two movies with Paul Newman that got together and
they're well watched, well worth watching. The first one is
The Hustler. Paul Newman plays fast Eddie Felton.
Speaker 12 (18:21):
Yes, great movie, tried to uh you know, pull the
roll over the Eyes of Minnesota fat and he does
almost does it, and Jackie Gleason plays Minnesota Fat.
Speaker 11 (18:32):
Great performances by both of them, and then twenty years later,
Martin score Sas makes The Color of Money Son Tom
Cruise and Paul Newman, and Cruise does a great job
playing opposite Newman, and Newman is reprising his role as
fast Eddie Pelton trying to teach Paul new Tom Cruse
how to be us.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Do you realize, Tom, Tom, do you realize when you
say Minnesota Fats and Fast Eddie that he has a
zero idea who you're knuckle about?
Speaker 4 (18:59):
None?
Speaker 9 (19:02):
That's why.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
The movie right, I'm with you absolutely.
Speaker 11 (19:09):
Hey, guys, I wanted to get your opinion on something,
and I'll ask the question and I'll hand off and listen.
What do you think of Tom Brady breaking into the boot?
How do you think he's going to do? What do
you think all eyes are going to be on him
in the Browns game?
Speaker 9 (19:25):
How many people are going to be watching?
Speaker 11 (19:28):
And how do you think he's gonna do? You guys,
you know the business, you know the technical ends of it,
and you know Tom Brady knows football, and I'm interested
to see you know, you know what this guy's going
to do? Like I said, Man, love listening to you
guys in the morning. I'm going to hang up and listen.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Thanks Tom, Thank you Tom. From my point vantage point,
I don't think a guy that knows what the question
who he's replaced Greg Olsen, who I think is as
good as theirs in the business, and what people are
saying about what kind of broadcasts will he be? I
would imagine that's the reason he took last year off
broadcasting and waited till this year, is to put himself
(20:06):
in position to be so ultra prepared, as hard as
he prepared as a football player. I don't think he
wants the broadcast world to say how the guy was
a stiff in the booth, because I honestly people put
that in there. They'll say, oh, a great quarterback, but
oh man, he sucked that. You know, you're hear it
all the time. Yeah, you do it with people. So
I think just the simple pride and ego alone won't
(20:27):
let him go in ill prepared. And he also knows
what people are saying, is he going to be milk toast?
Just basic? And they also don't want the overboard right.
I'm not giving him advice, I'm sure a million people
have teaches something we don't know without overdoing it. Don't
talk above the expert or above the amateur, and don't
(20:48):
talk below the expert. And that's a fine. I mean
John Madden did it in his way, Brady'll do it
in his And the truth is, I want to see
his post career, late part of his career personality on
the air. He's shown a little more flair and talk
a little nonsense, and hell, he may even have to
watch himself and drop an f bom. He likes to
cush a little bit once in a while. So I
(21:08):
just great energy without being an overtalker. But also, you've
been places at no one in the history of football's
ever been meaning that many that often. I mean, you're
the goat when it comes to well, you're the goat.
But when it comes to that, so you can actually
take his place, what was the difference as you're going
(21:28):
along without giving well when I played, just weaving the
stories in right, But I guess, don't point out the
obvious and don't insult people's intelligence. I don't think he will.
I think he'll be well prepared. The whole thing is
why you're prepared and telling us because you're Tom Brady
and we want to know what you see that we don't,
but without trying to shove it and crowbar it down
our throats. Right. But the other side is is the
(21:50):
entertainment factor. How you present it. It's not just presenting,
it's how you present it matters. I think people said
him this is just my opinion. I think people say
at home or in a bar, or when they're watching,
I want you to make them feel like they're sitting
next to you and you're talking to them without talking
at them. And that's going to be the fine line
to say, Hey man, he's one of us. He's not
(22:12):
afraid to criticize and not afraid to compliment. You're not
worried about if somebody says, well, dude, what do you
mean that ball wasn't catchable? Well, in my eyes, it
was let's talk about a watch on tape. Fine, but
that's it. Just make sure you're talking with us and
not Addison. If you do that, I think, and and
also I think we want strong opinion, and I'd love
the banter in the booth to be very fluid. Right,
(22:33):
And Kevin turns it over to him. You know, I
thought Kevin and Greg Olsen had good rapport and that
chemistry is going to matter as well with Brady. So
I think he's going to do well because I think
he knows what people are saying, meaning, oh, is he
gonna be that good? How can he match what he
was as a quarterback? What kind of energy we have?
Is he going to be how they duty? You know
(22:53):
what I'm saying, what's he going to be like? Is
going to force his humor?
Speaker 4 (22:56):
And you know what else? People are probably saying that. Actually,
I know that people are saying that he knows is
Tony Romo? Look at the look at the fall I
guarantee you he's heard. Look at the fall off from
Tony Romo. He was great in the booth for the
first year and a half.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Has he treated it like he did when he was
a free agent quarterback that he wasn't a star and
had every single time he opened his mouth, he had
to treat it as if I'm auditioning, even though he
wasn't auditioning. He already had the job. Well, it's made
him a lot of money, and it felt like over
the last year's it feels like that he mailed it in. Yeah,
and I hope that that's changing. But because early I
was like, damn, he's described not even predicting the play,
(23:31):
but just describing it what happened. Just tell us what
we can't obviously see that you, as a Tom Brady
can yeah, and so yeah, now you're your one hundred
percent correct, and don't try to be Madden or Romo's
and do your energy. But let it breathe. But just
let it rip too, man. That's why that's why you're
making a lot of money.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
It rip.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
He's making a bunch of people are saying. But his preparation,
he will not be ill prepared. Well that I guarantee you.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Him and Kevin Burkhart last week did a dry run together.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Yeah, oh yeah, I'm sure he did. I guarantee you.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
They had the Fox broadcast off for one of the
preseason games, right, the one that was actually doing the
on air, and he had it. Yeah, they were in
a booth together.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
So he can go back and he'll study it. Yeah,
and it'll be cringe worthy for him. It always is
a very when you hear oh, yeah, like I should
have said this, I should have done that, and that's okay,
that's okay. But if you're talking about preparation, he will
not be ill prepared.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
No, there's no question about. It's Tom freaking Brady, you know,
no doubt. Seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
IY.

Hey? Al?
Speaker 5 (25:53):
We Uh?
Speaker 4 (25:54):
You sound like you're eight miles away from your phone.
Anyway you can try to help out with that.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Degree All right?
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Well, well let's let's let's try to hang on real quick, tripley.
Can you see if you can get that a little
bit better for us? Real quick? Roger, what's going on?
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Hey, good morning fellas?
Speaker 13 (26:14):
Uh, yeah, I've got a couple of movies for you
if you care to do a movie homework and side
the movie on a rainy day, we do a cool
Hand Luke with Paul Newman and uh and uh number
one with the Bullets Steve mcqueens, and uh check those out,
and I think you won't be disappointed.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
Uh so.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
I just got a quick observation and we know you're done.
Speaker 13 (26:42):
Is gonna be a first ballot Hall of Famer and uh,
you know, hope he stayed an aftert for the rest
of his days. That being said, I just got a
small observation before you either hit that bomb.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (26:55):
Jordan was at bat and he totally gave away in
a bat when he was in total con forward one.
It was a it was a three zero pitch, it
was a it was a borderline, it was a it
was a borderline, a fourth pitch it could have been
could have been a ball. And Jordan didn't like the way,
you know, he didn't like to call, and he proceeded
(27:15):
to flail away at two two, two pitches that were
nowhere close to his own.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
And he's a better here than that.
Speaker 13 (27:23):
But because he got frustrated, he just kind of just
gave away the back, give away the bat with a
with a little little pop up in the middle the
middle of the field, and run for the gunner's bomb.
I just thought that was kind of weird, because you know,
he's he's usually that's not really how he is. That's
not a demeanor. I just thought that was interesting to see.
That was That's all that it appreciated.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Guy appreciated Roger seven one three five seven. I then
neber to join Alex. What's happening Marta.
Speaker 6 (27:53):
Bella A couple of things real quick?
Speaker 5 (27:57):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (27:58):
With the asher, I think they'll be all right.
Speaker 14 (28:00):
Don't cancel the bread yet, Brian, They're gonna make it.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
We'll get there.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Oh man, I don't know one loss. You know how
it goes?
Speaker 14 (28:08):
Hey, I think I think Berlinder comes out tonight, get pay, strikeouts,
two runs, go, six innings, eighty five pitches.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
That would be That would be a gym today. We'd
love that. That would be nice, yeap.
Speaker 6 (28:23):
Second thing, I'm gonna try and start out with this one.
Speaker 14 (28:25):
Sean, you might know who he is? What about an
actor named Audie Murphy?
Speaker 3 (28:29):
All time? Do I know who he is?
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (28:31):
One of the all time cowboy country, well, well country,
but cowboy movies of all time. Audie Murphy's been in
about fifty of them. Yeah, classic, he's a he's a
great actor.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
He did a movie called to Helen.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Back, seen it about ten times. Yes, awesome.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
And then in fact, what's kind of funny is growing up?
Speaker 14 (28:53):
You know, I've watched Audie Murphy movie, Steve McQueen movies
and TV shows, and I've found out, not too long ago,
day i have an aunt who is first cousins.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
With Audie Murphy.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Oh that's good, that's good blood lines. There you go.
I love it. That's awesome.
Speaker 14 (29:11):
And then, uh, last point, this is the first season
in ten years that I've actually been interested to see
and watch the NFL and see how the Tetons do
because of the move they've made in the ways that
they're making in the league.
Speaker 6 (29:26):
I'll leave it at that. You'll have a good morning,
Sean if you go hit the golf course today.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Hit him straight, brother, Thank you, Bud, appreciate it, thank you.
He is one right about the enthusiasm for the Texans
is and no brainon and he'll enjoy watching them this year.
But yeah, Audie Murphy, it's another one that's old time
cowboy movies. Brother, and he is an original and he
is a legend in the old school a U D
(29:50):
I ere you looking him up? Yeah? Pretty hot. Huh
back in the day, a bad school boy looks Loudie Murphy.
There you go, he's get all the lego boy. Oh
my gosh. We went from uh with heart Throbs, Newman
(30:11):
and McQueen to schoolboy looks at Audie Murphy back in
the day. Yeah he was. Yeah, you could watch all
kinds of Audie Murphy movies and and get through a
whole day and still not have watched half of them. Legend.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Ah, he's uh my grandfather. So my grandfather is buried
in Arlington National Cemetery. So he's Audi Audie Murphy.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Yeah. He's had a military career obviously, or a military
life before. I don't know how much I'm attacked. And
he was doing before the before his service, but boy
did he do it. Get a lot of movies in.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
So his service was prior to his acting career.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
That's what I figured.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Yeah, check that out, man, you really do learn something
every day.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Jason, welcome in.
Speaker 15 (30:53):
And challage dressing that he had the bomb I'll just
leave it it dead. Growing up, my dad and grandfather
used to watch that movie called The Hustler all the time.
I would kind of glance on it, but to be
honest with you, that was before my time. But I
called because, look, I love watching good football, and like
(31:17):
Troy Aikman and especially my favorite quarterback Kurt Warner. When
they call the games, they let the play happen and
then they kind of explain, are kind of dissected in
a way that the listener would be interested in while
telling one way that they would have done it. Now
(31:37):
with Tony Romo, you know, I don't really I mean,
I don't mind him calling the game, but he has
the tendency to call the play before the play happens,
and a lot of times, you know, it's kind of
you want to be like surprising and you want to
expect the surprise. You don't want them to tell exactly
(31:57):
what's going to happen. And I hope Tom Brady we
all know he's the goat, we all know he's the best,
and I just hope that he doesn't like he lets
the game happen, and he kind of lets the play
happen and he doesn't necessarily rub in his career and
our faces after we've seen it and just let the
(32:19):
game happen and play out that way and then kind
of dissected. That's kind of what I want to see.
Get your thoughts on that.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Thank you, Jason.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
That makes sense, right, So love that Tony Romo would
jump out and got some insight information or something saw
formation that he studied and called the play ahead of time,
and some want to see you respond to the play
as opposed to let him know what it is.
Speaker 14 (32:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (32:42):
Is genior, Jim, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Maybe maybe maybe Spider two wiping in? I don't know,
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (32:51):
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (32:51):
What do you think, Jim?
Speaker 5 (32:54):
Jim?
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Well Tony, Tony, I'm the play by play guy, you're
the game analyst. We want to hear what you think.
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Maybe maybe they're gonna go go.
Speaker 8 (33:03):
For them third down.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
I don't know. Yeah, don't put maybe in there, because
guess what we could all say. Maybe that's why you're
the expert.
Speaker 4 (33:10):
Was it last season that we talked. It had to
be last season where they came out of a timeout.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
It was early in the season, he checked with Gene.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
No no, no, Jim. Jim asked Tony.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
He said he didn't know, and then he and the
two sides and then asked Gene if he knew maybe.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Yeah, something along that line, along those lines, and I
think even another game, he was like, they come out
of a timeout. Jim asked him, Hey, what do you
think they're gonna They were talking about the time out,
basically like teet him up for like the easiest analysis,
and he was like, what do you think, Jim.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
And goes in and then just like, where are you
going with this? Jim?
Speaker 4 (33:43):
You're the if I'm Jim, I'm like, I'm the play
by play guy. You're next NFL quarterback. There's a reason
why I just teed you up.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
Tony tries at times to be really funny, kind of goofy.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
Right.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
I like him. I think he's I do, but he
needs to get back to not hard preparation and treated
as if he's not a fifteen million dollar a year star.
And then he'll continue to but that gig's that's a
big gig that he's got.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
It would be like, as we get into the steak
out at seven fifteen, I asked you a question. You
turn around and you're like, I don't know, Brush, it's
sitting on a t Yeah, what do you think?
Speaker 5 (34:18):
Said?
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Well, tripley, what do you think about that? Yeah? You
guys don't know. But if you asked me a question.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
Right, But that's the whole point of the steakeout is
to get your opinion. That's all kind of off topic
a little bit, you know.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
What I mean? Yes, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
You know, I meant bringing teen.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
So let's let's blame Gene if it didn't go the
way when he's supposed to.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Right, let's get to break seven one three, two, one two, five,
seven ninety. We'll get all your calls, continue to talk.
I don't know, maybe we'll get to uh, why Renel
Blanco struggled.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Yeah, you gotta love row though. Yeah, he's been good
all year long. Man. Yeah, let's hope the innings part
of it isn't you know? I think he said there's.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
That wall that you hit and he was getting he
was getting barreled up last night. Let's talk about a next.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Let the celebration start.
Speaker 10 (35:14):
War Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 8 (35:16):
A Sean Salsburry.
Speaker 16 (35:18):
Show, Ronnie, welcome in, Good morning, guys, I got three
things for you, one question and a couple of comments.
Have they announced her? Do you think you can get
Dana to tell us which picture is going to go
down to sugar Land to make room for Verlander. I'm
guessing it's going to be Dubin because he pitched and
(35:38):
they may need Martinez to go a couple of innings
that Verlander can only throw so many pitches. The comments
I have to make, and I've missed the beginning of
your whatever your discussions were about Audi Murphy. But there's
a movie he made, an autobiographical movie.
Speaker 9 (35:55):
I think it's called Look It Up Right.
Speaker 16 (35:57):
It's a cheesy movie, but it's a nineteen fifties war
movie called I think it's called to Hell and Back.
It's a movie about his early life and up to
the time when he fought and got the Medal of Honor.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yeah, that though, Ronnie, that movie was like real life,
real life. Him and Ryan Mitchell also mentioned it on Twitter.
He said to Helen back is actually the true story
of Audie Murphy's World War Two career. He did that
scene where he and I remember the scene you know,
of him jumping on the burning tank and fires the
machine gun to cover his men and that is how
(36:30):
he got his medal in the million in World War Two.
So very impressive. That was real the life for him.
In a hell of a movie too.
Speaker 16 (36:37):
Yeah, yeah, he was the World War Two version of
Sergeant York.
Speaker 3 (36:41):
Yeah, no doubt. He did a lot of the war
movies and cowboy movies. He was. He was good at
all of it. Man that had a hell of a career,
hell of a run.
Speaker 16 (36:48):
He was really good. And the last thing I wanted
to talk about is Robert and Steve do a great job.
I think of being fair and objective about umpiring, but
I have heard them complain, if you want to use
that stronger word, more about this umpiring crew in this
(37:09):
Red Sox series than anybody else lately. And you know,
this is the dog days of August. I know the
players get tired, maybe the umpires get tired too. But
Robert always talks about you know, well, stat cast had
this low or stat Cast called this a strike and
it was really a He called it a ball. They
have really been on these and for both sides. You know,
(37:31):
Boston and Houston have complained about the umpiring and it
doesn't matter who's umpired behind the plate. I wonder if
if Dana might be willing to comment on whether the
umpires get tired like the players do, and whether the
empires are beginning to suffer a little bit of anxiety
or anxiousness about the possibility of the system that's going
(37:53):
on in the minor leagues where you know, you can
get to challenge the abs calls and stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (37:59):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
Let's get Danny before we get to the side of
the hour, Andy, what's.
Speaker 17 (38:03):
Happening, hey, guys, real quick on Tom Brady. I don't
know about you, guys, but I don't listen none of
the analys anymore. I just I just don't, you know,
I don't have time to bother with him. And as
far as Tom Brady, I'd rather him have a show
once a week where he sits down and breaks down
(38:25):
games from quarterback perspective.
Speaker 9 (38:28):
I mean I would.
Speaker 17 (38:30):
I'd be in my underwear on my coups watching that.
That's the damn sure, because does he really have enough
time in between plays to diagnos a play and break
it down the way that I would like it?
Speaker 5 (38:44):
Book down?
Speaker 3 (38:45):
And you want you want long form, you want the
thing pre snap read what he came out looking at
what he's walking to the line of scrimmage. You want
an hour to a ninety minute show where somebody like
if I'm teeing him up and say, okay, Tom, they're
cover your ky. It's third and four here and it's
in the middle of the second quarter, you're down six
(39:05):
and the guy's walking lay in. Let's say it's you know,
Aaron Rodgers, what's your thought process here and what have
you studied about the jet that leads you to your
pre staff breed? Take us through the play and then
the decision, right, yeah, yeah, and you want him to
tell ustrate it, and you want long form, so he
walks you through it, even if it was just a
dozen plays where you're like, okay, brought he brought me
into places I've never been because between plays you're gonna
(39:27):
get about fifteen to twenty seconds. I get it.
Speaker 17 (39:30):
Hey think about him doing the last drive with C. J.
Stroud when he beat Tampa Bay last week last year.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Oh, no doubt. To walk it through that, that'll make
a hell of asion. I don't know why more people
don't do that, the expertise of that, because we want
x's and o's all the time, and having a guy
who knows it better than anybody. I get it. Pay
him a couple million bucks for once a week and
do it a sixty minute show.
Speaker 17 (39:53):
I think we get more out of that than we
would him doing color analysis during the game.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
Yeah, there's not enough time a place to do, you too, Andy,
I get what Andy's saying. That's that's also the expertise
of these of some of the great broadcaster to be
able to get it in. I remember Mike Trico told me,
and when I first started Sideline, you got to get
you got to get a minute of information and in
fifteen seconds to get it back to the play by
play guy. When my first my rookie start right, it's
(40:19):
the same thing here. You got to tell us something.
I'm talking you. You talk about the cliff notes version,
but make sure that when you describe the cliff Notes,
tell us explain to us. That's the hard part. Andy
wants the long form of the entire pro and I
get it. I think it would be to take what
they did on an edge matchup and have it be
Brady walking us through a quarterback meeting about what he
(40:42):
would do if you stand in the meeting, coaching, or
when he was a player, what he expected to see,
just all the things that take you to places you'll
never get to go.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Yeah, I'd be tuned into that.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
I'd like him to do both things. Come back and like, yeah,
pick a dozen plays around the league or again, and
walk us through what you would have been thinking that
maybe Lamar Jackson wasn't yeah, or the CJ stutter, or
take us through what you think he was thinking and
dial us up with a couple of plays and tell
us to read and why I think and how quickly
you got to process information not only before the ball snap,
(41:12):
but once the ball snap even more. You got about
if you get two seven five seconds, you should you
get three two two point eight fives. You should be
in a Pro Bowl. Think about that for the tiny
ball snaps into your hands that's coming out. Yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
Like the timing as a quarterback. It's like the timing
as a hitter in baseball. You don't have much zero
point four to decide and in the pocket you got
how much did you.
Speaker 3 (41:36):
Say about if you get two seven five to two
eight the top? I mean that'll you be leading the
league and time throwing under three seconds.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
Will be You'll go your team and make a decision.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
And make it accurately with the guys trying to hit
you in the.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
Mouth like big big mother.
Speaker 3 (41:50):
You know what.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
Oh, no doubt, no doub Yeah, no, thanks for me.
I'd rather try to hit a ninety five min hour
fastball than have some big ass to come at me.
All right, let's get into the seven o'clock hour. Let's
hear from Joe Spot.
Speaker 10 (42:01):
Next Ad Houston at Houston and I heard radio station.

Speaker 3 (42:24):
Salisbury, Houston.
Speaker 8 (42:29):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
Sean Salisbury, The to USC Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 10 (42:37):
Branl Lima, Go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
Astros Fall. Last night, Sean Renel Blanco hit around pretty
good in the first couple of innings. He only pitched
three in three and two thirds, six hits, five runs,
all earned, four walks, six k's eighty four pitches.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Not a very good outing'd be you know, I'm not
the exact numbers of all his starts, but there's been
a few that have been where he's labored a little
that that's one of the worst ones he's had, don't
you agree? Yeah, I mean from the stars it was
did you ever feel and what did he was ever
settled in?
Speaker 8 (43:17):
No?
Speaker 3 (43:17):
No, and I mean walking people. He just didn't have
no command. When I said didn't have no comman, didn't
have any command. There was no command last night.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
His slider wasn't very good, continued to hang over the
middle of the plate, didn't execute it very well. He
just you know, it just didn't look sharp. And I
think that's the inning threshold that we've talked about.
Speaker 3 (43:35):
If it happens after six starts, you're like, Okay, it
was bound to happen. Guys have bad and that that's
the that's how we discuss it. What it happens late
in the season for a guy who's now thirty year old,
has never been a full time starter. Now, you know,
we say, is hit a wall. That's the first thing
you said, hit a wall? And he uh, he did
a good job of battling back. He looked good last performance, right, Yeah,
(43:57):
And so that's what I think a lot of times
when fatigue kicks in. And that's what starts to happen, right,
it becomes you have a good start, and then getting
out of a slow start like Kokuchi did the other night.
For the most part, it is difficult on you to
get out of that slump, right because you're tired. And
then what happens when you're tired. Mechanics suffer a little bit.
(44:21):
I'm not saying just with him, I'm talking about with
any of us. And when mechanics suffer a little bit,
guess what happens, balls off a little bit, whether you're
a quarterback, whether you're a hitter, whether you're And it
could be so small and so insignificant to us, but
major to them. And it's like anything when you're physically,
like when you run alt like you worn out, tired
right from the cardiovascular work. You know what happens is
(44:45):
you start to you build up inside excuses, right, you're
like man, and it affects the mental part of your
own yep, and then so and regardless that that's happened
with him or not, but you have to assume at
this stage that the grinds he's tired a little bit, right,
But maybe the six man rotation. Now that Verlander's coming
back will start to give him a little respite as
(45:06):
well so he can get back. But last the last
night was probably as off as I've seen Renel Blanco
all year.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
Yeah, he just was not sharp, agreed, just playing simple,
not sharp, kind of laboring through three and two thirds
eighty four pitches. I mean, he got very.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Too many pitches. And that's I mean eighty pitches. That's
a ninety and that's a seven and a half, that's
a seven and a third starter, six and two thirds
if you're going good, I'm talking about that eighty to
ninety pitches, right, you get the seven innings, six and
two thirds innings last night, it was pretty obvious from
the beginning that this was not the same Renelle Blanc
we've seen most of the year.
Speaker 5 (45:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:43):
And Jared Duran, I mean, the kid, it's it's he's
an electric player. Buddy four for four with a walk,
he was on base five times. Yeah, and he hit
the eventual go ahead home run in the eighth off
of kleb Ward, who Kleboard's been pitching fan fantastic for
the Astros, but challenging with a fastball and and.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
Well there's no doubt he's had He's had a good year.
I was witnessed by his All Star game MVP and
ice A Star team.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
He's a good player every time the Red Sox are
in town, or anytime the Astros are playing the Red Sox.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
One guy.
Speaker 4 (46:18):
Yes, k Hernando was just gonna you took the words right,
keyk Hernanda's at one point. I mean, my goodness, man, Duran,
this time around, I'm sure we'd go back to earlier
in like twenty eighteen. Oh uh, Jackie Bradley Junior in
twenty eighteen for.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
A guy who doesn't hit anybody. Yeah, he's a defensive guy. Yeah,
that Key k Hernandez is run during you know that.
Speaker 4 (46:40):
That twenty twenty one it was.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
Like stopping that bunch of game run he was on.
Speaker 8 (46:46):
Yeah, stop pitching.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Every time the ball came out of a pitcher's hands,
it didn't matter what it was. I said, that's gonna
get hit hard. Yeah, and dude, he was pounding the wall.
He was unbelievable. That dude was seeing the ball as
if it was. It looked like a pro playing against
like little league shave. Yes, It's like, come on, man,
I close my eyes and hit your fastball. And that's
the rhythm he was in. And Durant it is that
(47:10):
the Red Sox had that uncanny ability to that one
guy gets he's nuts. A lot of times it's not enough.
I mean it's been enough at times in the past,
but they get rolling and that key k Hernandez was
he hit Oh my gosh on he hit in twenty
twenty one in the postseason.
Speaker 4 (47:27):
Do you know what he hit like five seventy So
he hit four oh eight. Okay, so actually going coming
into and everything was hit hard. Going into the Alcs,
he was hitting five hundred. He hit five hundred in
the Alds.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
The whole post. Dude, every time he came to I
didn't miss it. It bad for him because yeah, he's
a guy. Man, I want dinner. No, no, no, you're gonna
hold up. I gotta see Hernanda swing the bat. It was.
It was one of those. It was rarefied as like, gosh,
when you get in that and we've all been in
our in our you know, in our right place. Uh huh, dude,
he was. It wouldn't have mattered if Sam Cofax, Don Drysdale,
(48:01):
Bob Gibson, Randy Johnson and Clemens at their best. He
was hitting anything, It did not matter where he thought.
And then not only that, it felt to me like
they were throwing in balls he could drive. Yeah, like
balls that they the pitcher missed on was like, did
you just like I said, did you just throw him
a belt high fastball where he can extend and at
the right without movement over the middle of the plate.
(48:22):
Everything he looked at, he raked.
Speaker 4 (48:24):
He had hit hard four oh eight average, four to
twenty three on base, an eight thirty seven slugging he had.
He had an ops of one hundred and sixty in
the playoffs in his career, two seventy four hitter in
the playoffs with an eight ninety three OPS.
Speaker 3 (48:41):
It pretty pretty solid. Oh, there's no doubt good different
teams with that. That Red Sox run he was on
was sick.
Speaker 4 (48:46):
Yeah, that's just I mean, coming into the Alcs and
he hit put five hundred.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
Yeah, you couldn't ge Duran out of Wait, if Duran
would have went to the play twelve times last night,
he'd gone on base ten of them. That's how that
that's that's how he's been seeing the ball too. And
he's had a it's been a really good season. He jacked.
I mean, that guy's he's probably his body's prime for
a full season of health, right, and you know what
I'm saying. I mean he's been banged up at times,
but he is a stud too. He's a really good
young player. Four for four, three runs to RBI. Obviously,
(49:12):
like I said, he hit the go ahead home run
in the eighth and in a walk. I've seen a
lot of him since he came up last year. That
he is. That dude is a full speed, run through
a wall type player, and he is as he gets out.
He's got a lot of skill set man, and he
can cover center field pretty damn well.
Speaker 4 (49:29):
So I knew Rafaeld Devers was having a good year,
but when they continue to put his numbers up on
the broadcast, I'm like, damn, dude, like he's that.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
But he just he's that guy. He's like the he
was like Prescott and Cousins, and he's you're gonna put
up numbers every year? Yeah, he puts up every year.
Speaker 5 (49:45):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (49:45):
He didn't start real fast home run wise either. He
he was just like it. Or there was this point
when he was laboring a little bit which sounds odd
when you're talking about Rathfield evers. Now, he'll chase pitches
and strike out. But I'm going to tell you that, dude,
it's that big old chaw in his mouth. I don't
know how it doesn't in the way of his eyes
pinching shut because you know how you're chewing in your eyes.
Get huh, That's why some of these guys put it
(50:05):
in their back back part of their jaw, so the
front eyes that he got that thing, I mean, he's
got It's like he took a took a five pounds
shot putting it. And I don't know how his vision,
but he hits everything, dude, and he supplies so much power.
And you've got to be right around eighty RBIs right now, yeah,
and high twenties home runs wise, Rafael dever eight as
(50:27):
eight and seventy five, twenty eight and eighty something like that.
Speaker 4 (50:29):
Last night he is home runs. He's got uh, why
is it not? It's not even give me the updated
so let me I'll have to double check that he is.
Speaker 3 (50:40):
He's one of those guys you say, well, did he
have a good year? Then you look at the numbers,
You're like damn. It doesn't guys more to hit. It
doesn't give me twenty. He's one of those guys that
just just you just Manny Ramiers was a lot like that.
Every time you he's just putting up in every number, number, number, right.
It felt like that every time you you grabbed a
bat from the rack and the dugout. It was an
RBI waiting to happen. Devers is a great hitter, give you.
(51:04):
I mean, that's a that's some good player. Good power
and good pop from the left side. That are both
good players.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
Seventy seven RBIs and twenty seven bombs eighty Yeah, yeah,
he's really good. You know, he's gonna look really good
playing first base when Alex Bregman becomes a Red Sox
in the off season.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
Could happen, Let's hope not. Let's hope not. That's hope not.
I mean, if he's going to go anywhere, then I'll
take him there. He's probably gonna go hang out with
Mark what I'll take you there? Yeah? Oh good cut?
That cut though?
Speaker 4 (51:32):
Is that Aretha Franklin.
Speaker 3 (51:34):
I don't know if that's a wreatha or not. It's
a good call by you. A nice guess I'll take
you there. I don't know who sings that cut, but yeah,
Duran wore him out last night.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
There's no Staple singers?
Speaker 3 (51:46):
Is that who it is? Staple Singers not to be
confused with the Staple Center, correct right, which is now
the Crypto dot com aerna then go Crypto dog Yeah,
Crypto Yeah. The thing abou Country Boys Roofing, We'll let
me tell you about it. Local owned and operated, don't
chase storms, don't need to, but they will do whatever
it needs to chase. Make sure you have safety and peace,
(52:09):
and whether it's getting out there before storm hits because
you have some problems with your roof you want to
make sure it's secure, or after the storm hits. You
need some urgency, a non price gouging urgency that comes
in there and makes it better for you. That's what
they're supposed to do, and Country Boys Roofing does that.
Their work is done south of town, all over town,
from all the way to Galveston, and they're willing to
(52:29):
go anywhere in the greater Houston area and no job
too big, too small, and that's a nice commitment to you.
Plus they're going to help you navigate those insurance claims
their Texas Windstorms certified and certainty in GAF shingle certified
and navigating insurance claims is a pain in the ass.
Let them help you, Let them help your roof, Let
them fix your roof, let them find what's wrong with it,
(52:50):
and then let them go in there or after the fact,
if you think everything's okay, let them make sure they
get this done urgently and right. And fifteen hundred dollars
off one thousand and five hundred, five hundred dollars off
for first responders, our military, and our educators. Now that's
a great gig. So when people can price gouge, it's
the opposite. They want to help you, they want to
give you peace of mind, and they want it to
(53:11):
be fair. It's Country Boys roofing, and they do it
right again, locally owned and operated. Give them a call
a three two seven three one fifty six twenties. Just
set up a meeting, let them come out and check
you out. Seven eight three to two seven three one
fifty six twenty. They're there for you and they'll be
there for you. Or you can go to country with
a K, Boys with a Z. Countryboys ROOFINGLLC dot com.
(53:32):
That's Countryboys roofing LLC dot com.
Speaker 10 (53:35):
There's a lot happening and he's got a lot to
say about it. Sean Salisbury continues on seven nineteen one.
Speaker 8 (53:46):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 10 (53:49):
The Salisbury Steakouts Salsbury's takeout on the.
Speaker 8 (53:54):
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (53:56):
Time for the steakout here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sean Bryner Tripp Lee Astros with a one to ten
first pitch today against the Red Sox, trying to win
the series as they lost last night. Noon is when
the On Deck Show starts right here on seven on
your home for Astros Baseball. Astros general manager Dana Brown
gonna join the show at nine thirty this morning. Before
(54:17):
we get to the steak out, let's get to Brandon.
Speaker 18 (54:19):
Hello, Brandon, Hey, you guys, Good morning too. I guess
I'll be the first to eat crow. Shan's not happened
the first time. So back when you said we're going
to stick a fork in them, well, I'll tell you what.
The team has showed pretty good resiliency and definitely a
lot of the young guys have stepped up too. What
I'd like to see though out of this, you know,
thirty seven thirty six games remaining, what have you, is
definitely try to clinch early so you can get some
(54:41):
of the vetteran some rests come postseason time, whatever draw
you get. And I think, you know, looking back at it,
Sean Brian, they need better production obviously from the bottom
of that order, because it seems like every time, you know,
Jack Myers comes up, Marisa Dubon, Chas McCormick, Minondo, Chaz
had a couple of good.
Speaker 9 (54:55):
Games back to back.
Speaker 18 (54:56):
You just want that production to kind of get better contact,
pitch selection and just not swinging and stuff out of
the strike zone things like that. Play discipline is what
I would like to see from those guys too. And
I'll be the first to say too that the Kakussie
trade stuff giving up those guys too, But obviously he's
given you innings. Like I said, durability strikeouts, love that too,
(55:17):
And I know they picked up Vin Gamble on waivers
from the Mets to give him a little bit more
flexibility to try to find somebody, you know, put the
ball in play.
Speaker 5 (55:25):
What do you guys think about that?
Speaker 18 (55:26):
And also what about any other waiver, claims Sean, that's
out there too, that you guys would like to see
before August is up.
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Thanks thanks for the call, Brandon, real quick, and he's
so right to be great. This is one of those
times I think where you'd like to and I think
everybody wants to. You don't want to take your players
out of rhythm, but you do want to wrest them.
And at the end of the season. You know how
I feel about bie weeks in the NFL. They're fine
and dany, but you win a division in the middle
(55:56):
of December, you play one more time than in Game sixteen,
you take Game seventeen off, you get the wild card
round off, and then it's three weeks before you play.
I don't like that. I do like take a week off,
play guys, get some rest, but smattering of playing without
having them play no competitive football for three weeks. Same
thing here. I think Brand's one hundred percent right. You
(56:18):
would like to put the pedal down. Now jump yourself
out eight nine games in front of first place. That
the last ten or twelve you can fifteen you can
give guys. Play a guy, rest him, keep him in
enough rhythm, stays competitive, but not where you're overplaying and
where you have to fight and scratch till the last
day of the season pitching and hitting. Right. So I
(56:38):
think brand is one hundred percent correct. And I asked
you this question because it was asked to me on Twitter.
Is minimum veteran minimum? If he gives you eighty percent
of what he gave you when he was here before
the year before he left, what's the risk if he
went out and added another arm like Hector NAIs.
Speaker 4 (56:56):
Yeah, that was gonna be my stakeout question for you.
Is in regards to Hector there is risk? I think
why a guy who's had success here.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
And I know he's had a rough year, and you
get DFAD when you have rough years, right, but he
was at his best here maybe and you're you're getting
him for a lot cheaper than you would have you
would have signed him. Yeah, and maybe he really may
Maybe he rediscovers down the stretch, saves some arms, and
rediscovers middle relief. Hectoranais how he was when he was here.
Speaker 4 (57:24):
Yeah, since he was DFA, the Cubs were paying his contract,
so you would get him on a veteran veteran veteran minimum.
Speaker 3 (57:30):
Right, I don't think there's any risks, so you you
start to scour it. I doubt if there's going to
be a power bat it's available to you between now
and then. People crave those, right.
Speaker 4 (57:40):
No, and Joe A. Spottle was on with Matt Thomas
yesterday and discussed, Uh, he's actually considering putting Victor Karattini
over at first base to keep his bat in the
lineup with ther behind the plate.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
What did I tell you. I'm not saying if patim
back then, I'm but we when I said when you
were one hundred percent on board, Yeah, we've said why
wouldn't you? I want somehow, some way both bats in
the lineup more than not. Yes, if one's playing, if
one's catching, I don't have problem put the other one
to first base and vice versa to me dhing on
(58:14):
the day that, let's say yin or DHS, that's his
day off, right, you're not crouching. Keep that bat in
the lineup, keep him going. You give him those days
off from behind the plate so his legs are fresh
going in the postseason. Brandon's one hundred percent right. I
think you kick into twelve cylinders now, so you have
some if you if there's ten games to go, and
you've got a seven game lead, you can start to
(58:37):
give people some rest.
Speaker 4 (58:38):
Yeah, and I think that would be great. Talk to Don.
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (58:42):
Don?
Speaker 5 (58:43):
Hey? Guys?
Speaker 9 (58:44):
Hey, I got a question when.
Speaker 19 (58:45):
When y'all talk today to Brown today, when Tucker comes back,
which it looks like he is going to probably maybe
a week to ten days, who's going to be odd
man out on this thing? Is it going to be
Cabag McCormick or Whitcomb McCormick batting one nine and Cabbage
you know, he's basically he strikes that eighty percent of
the time and he's the only batting you know.
Speaker 17 (59:05):
Just just about a hair bit over two hundred.
Speaker 19 (59:08):
So will either one of those two guys be gone
first rather than wimb would he be staying?
Speaker 9 (59:13):
So that's just a little talking.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
Point I have right there.
Speaker 8 (59:16):
So if y'all were.
Speaker 9 (59:18):
Just respond to that, I really appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (59:20):
Man, have a great day, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (59:21):
Don. What do you think?
Speaker 4 (59:23):
I just think, excuse me, depending on who has options obviously,
is gonna have him. Cabbage I believe would have him.
I don't know if Chas McCormick has him.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
And I just think they're going to send him down. No,
I think it's one of the two guys. So I
think it'll be Whitcomber Cabbage, Yeah, I would think.
Speaker 4 (59:44):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (59:45):
I just feel like fairly versatile, can play, you know
with uh Cabbage's played both corner outfields. Yeah, and what
third base?
Speaker 4 (59:51):
He can play basically left, right and first and third. Yeah,
but he's but he's been playing outfield for the shows.
So you get Tucker back.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
He's been playing the end he's played, I almost say,
but he spent most of his time in the corner
outfield direction here, Yeah, played right field.
Speaker 5 (01:00:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
What on Monday night he just got called back up?
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
So yeah, that day and was I think it was
that day or day before called back and made a
hell of a throw to third base almost to a
guy out of the early innings.
Speaker 4 (01:00:15):
But yeah, and then also you got to remember in
September rosters expand band for September call up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
So and that's that's whorl with Today's the twentieth of August. Yeah,
So and I don't what is twenty first? It is
the twenty first, correct? Yea is I don't see. I
don't think Kyle Tucker's back in a big league uniform
in seven days.
Speaker 4 (01:00:35):
I don't think he's back.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
I don't know. I mean, I understand what he's saying
that day when he said he's almost back. Didn't he
say he'd be back ready going seven to three? Was
he minor league assignment? He just I don't. I don't
think you're going to see Kyle Tucker till after Labor Day.
That's my opinion.
Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
I'm with you on that same opinion. They showed the
video of him yesterday doing some like weird kind of
jogging into some more I guess quote unquote intense running
even though it wasn't even really running. Are still kind
of a hitch in it. A little bit hitting VP
on the field, but it's not very intense. Did some
(01:01:08):
stuff underneath the ballpark in the cages. But it just
from everything that I've seen video wise over these last
couple of days, he's not gonna be ready by Labor Day.
He's not gonna be even ready to in my opinions,
I'm gonna be ready to go on a rehab start
by Labor Day.
Speaker 3 (01:01:22):
Think you'd be hard pressed to be ready to go
in right field starting for the astros by that holiday Monday.
Speaker 4 (01:01:29):
Yeah, there's no way. I just I just don't see
it happening.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
But I did. There will be some moves to make,
there's there's put it this way though, even whatever whatever moves,
whether it's a hector neris who you send down the
roster they have now include Tucker and Verlander in this
You're either winning and or losing it with the group
of dudes you got now. There's no there's no miracle
worker coming in at this stage. I'm gonna save you
because anybody who comes in will be just a guy
(01:01:52):
to help either use up innings as an arm and
or spot people as a player. You see, they've used
a lot of young players in the last handful. You
a month and a half or so come up here
even longer to Peter Leones back down. But if the
guess what, the World Championship is not out there on
the waiver wire, right, that's my point. It's not it
going to help you a little bit and save some
(01:02:13):
arms and save some legs. But if you're winning it,
you're winning it with the cats you got now, including
Verlander and Tucker if they can get you know, Verlander today,
But when Tucker gets back, then you're hey, that's about
as healthy as you're gonna be the rest.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Of the season. Yeah, there's there's just to me For
Kyle Tucker. There's no no way he's gonna be ready
bout Labor Day. But we'll see how it goes. We

generator from Brotherly Love Electric. It's connection you can count on.
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued talking about Hector Naires Corey.
Good morning, Good morning, gentlemen. How y'all doing today?
Speaker 20 (01:04:08):
We got I don't know if this is super moon
has anything to do with an exerting higher gravitational force,
But I've been watching games, I've been watching baseball for
fifty years that I ain't never seen a ball get
stuck in a fence like I did last night.
Speaker 9 (01:04:23):
That was that was wild.
Speaker 20 (01:04:25):
And then you had the home run in Dodger Stadium
last night that went over the fence and then it
crawled underneath the fence.
Speaker 9 (01:04:33):
And came back into play, so the umpires didn't know
what to do.
Speaker 5 (01:04:36):
Just weird things.
Speaker 20 (01:04:37):
But any way, the reason I was calling, I think
there are a reason a lot of teams are kind
of gun shy with the whole hector Aaris thing. And
he hasn't been signed yet. It's because he's very close
to hitting the requirements for his player option kick get
and if we if somebody were to sign him and
(01:04:59):
and he meets those numbers, then they're gonna be on
the hook for next year as well. So you might
want to ask Dana about that if that If that's
the case, and then the second thing is you were
talking about players with options. Chaz does have an option left,
so you know, if they did want to send him
down for ten days, fifteen days, whatever, they could do that.
(01:05:21):
So I'll hang up the list of Gods.
Speaker 9 (01:05:22):
Y'all have a great day.
Speaker 4 (01:05:23):
Thank you, Corey, appreciate it. I just don't they're not
going to send him down.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
I just think they're going to keep the veteran. The
veteran as opposed I mean, that has experience, I think,
and Dana Brown told us last week he said he thought.
He said he's about a week away or a couple
of games away from recovering the Chas McCormick. Basically he won.
He felt he was close.
Speaker 4 (01:05:46):
Yeah, he just hasn't been good this year. He's had
a couple of good games. You know, there was I
can't remember who it was. I want to say, let
me see if I can find it real quick.
Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
And then that sucked. Though. Think about this and with
the option for hectoran Ais, that people don't want to
sign a guy because they're afraid they have to pay
him the next year, even if he may I'm not
talking about the s I'm talking about anybody. And that
was that week. How contracts go, Yeah, hey man, we
could use him, but we're afraid to have him because
he's going to cost us some money next year. Well
what if he's your number one guy in the bullpen
next year, in the middle relief, you know, he's sixth
(01:06:18):
inning guy. Yeah, somewhere in the league. Maybe he won't be.
But I don't know, is this is this Hectorannarius or
is this the aberration? He's better than this. I feel
like he's better than this. I think so so I
think interesting how business gets in the way, but it
always does. Business always gets in the way of you know,
it's not always put it this way. It's not always
a talent or production uh decision. A lot of times
(01:06:41):
it is. But also it's a money decision a lot
of cases, whether it's that with hectoran Ais and his contract,
who knows.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
Yeah, it was excuse me. Leah Van of cron dot
com she she wrote an article a couple of days
ago and basically interviewed Chazz and he said, quote, it's
been a while since I've smiled end quote because of
his slump and out bad he's been doing. And like
I understand that. You know, we can sit here and
(01:07:07):
look at that quote and may think, like, man, like
that sucks and that you know, like I saw some
people saying that this quote hurts my heart because he
said he hasn't smiled in a while. Here's professional sports.
You're a professional baseball player, Like, who'd you say?
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
I was talking to Triple.
Speaker 4 (01:07:25):
Yeah, no, just talking about Chas McCormick say, it's been
a while since he smiled, and like the the aberration
and like the oh my gosh, it's hurts so much.
It hurts me to see him not smiling. You're playing
a game of failure. You're gonna go through slumps.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Oh guess what, Oh.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
My god, he's so sad seeing.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Him that smile. Who cares perform better? We are in
a society, God, we are in a society that wants
to give every single person in the world that listen,
a soft landing's great, but guess what. Sometimes you fall
on a hard concrete and you got to deal with it,
and then how you use it as a trampoline's up
to you. But I know it's like, we're worried about
(01:08:08):
chazz is self forth. I think he's gonna be okay.
Speaker 4 (01:08:10):
Yeah, and then and then he's he's had some productive
games over the last couple of gims, some credit there.
But then it's like, oh my god, I'm so happy
he see him smile.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
Okay, you know what I don't look for when I'm
looking for what, I don't look for very you know
my number one judgment on the player is or isn't
a smile? Yes? Now, do I like to see guys
having fun? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:08:32):
I do.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Al Tuova has a blast. I like to see it.
Some guys did different. I don't know. I haven't smiled much.
I mean, I understand the sympathy stuff that you give
a guy who hadn't smiled much. Well, you'll smill, go
get four hits, you'll smile, and everybody'll be happy for you.
I'm not dogging Chaz. I'm just saying I get what
he meant. Listen, sometimes it's miserable, right, you're going through
(01:08:55):
what he said. You're talking about the outpouring of like
he just got a nuts shot off, like he just died.
Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
Yes, he struck out right, struck out right. He had
the going to be fine. He's a big leaguer and
he's been on the big league grosser for a long time. Ye,
he'll he'll eventually find his way through.
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
If every guy who went through a slumper struggled said,
you know, I'm not smiling much to Sean, we'd have
to turn that frown upside down, turn it upside down,
turn that frown upside that. It sucks to go through
a struggle, but guess what when you get your ass
handed to you. I don't see a boxer getting punched,
getting the hell punched out of him and losing. He
goes over there, said man, I haven't smiled much. The
(01:09:31):
guy just peppered my face like twenty seven times. But happens.
I get the sense that I do get it. But unfortunately,
right now, the smile is not what's helping your game. Now,
you got once you get a few hits and start
to relax, if a smile helps you to relax more,
I get it. But yeah, yeah, you know how that is. Man. Yeah,
I feel bad for of course, you feel bad for
(01:09:51):
everybody struggling. But guess what I mean. You'll be giddy
when he starts to get a few hits if he
does turn that frown upside turn it frown upside down.
Come on, Chaz, he'll turn that frown upside down. Yeah,
it'll be all right, I promise. Put an arm around him,
tell him to turn that frown upside down. There you go,
it'll be all right.
Speaker 5 (01:10:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:10:11):
This really hurts me to see him not smile.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Would you stop it? So that's so society now, I know.
Speaker 4 (01:10:20):
Oh God, oh God, forbid a big leaguer struggles. Let's
all give him a participation trophy. Let's give him a
care bear award. I'll tell you what, Oh my god,
I'll say.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
I know what he is smiling. The direct deposit goes in. Yeah, man,
it's not all about buddy, of course it's not. It's
not all about smiles either. There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
I mean, I see Josh Hater smile very much at
the beginning of the season, and no one dy when.
Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
You get beat on a on a when I when
a when a catcher for another team hits a home run,
walks off and hits a home run on.
Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
You, that's that's the Yeah, Like he's.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Not gonna smile, he's pissed.
Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
No, But I think that's always the funniest thing is
like we as fans, I think it was Rah. Yeah,
we as fans always have to bring in the type
of character that the dude has. He's such a good dude.
You hate to see him struggle. We're not talking about
him personally. We're talking about on the field production. Chas
McCormick has not been productive this year.
Speaker 3 (01:11:15):
If we were paying a lot of holes, there'd be
fifty million dollars a year guys who can't play a lick, right,
I'm not saying McCormick can. He proved last year. Going
into this year, we thought mcormick's gonna be starting center
fielder every day. We all wanted it. Yeah, and then
he and he has struggled, but you're right, I mean
listen and then look at hater. There's still people that
don't like him. And the guys rolled off twenty five,
twenty six, twenty seven in a row.
Speaker 4 (01:11:35):
Whatever it's Yeah, and how like look at uh Ryan
Presley has struggled a lot this year, but no one's
sitting there saying like, oh, he's such a good dude.
He's not smiling anymore, a smiling. Hey he's on the
il it's right back injury.
Speaker 3 (01:11:48):
Yeah it's a smile. Yeah, huh. I just think here's
so you think it's just kind of I think you
think it's kind of a so soft and overbearing.
Speaker 4 (01:11:58):
Yeah, it is very overbearing, maddening a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
It is maddening.
Speaker 4 (01:12:01):
Yeah, and I read through a threat.
Speaker 3 (01:12:03):
I told me, you told me he's playing and he's
you know, his dog was seventeen and you know, bold
age and stuff, and he's having a hard time. Yeah
I get it, Okay, Yeah, well I get that to
in fact, I get it more than I would have
something happened to a person. Yes, same, I like the
dogs more anyway, so too. But you know he's struggling.
You feel for him. But I think Chaz is gonna
be okay because the more you if, if, if the
smile's not there, I guess he's got to find a
(01:12:25):
way to smile even when things are struggling, to fight
a way through it and be continue to be a
good teammate that he's been. Yeah, happens, man, you can
go through it. Turn that front upside down. It's baseball.
It's a game of failure. It'll be okay. I promise
that's a guarantee.
Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
Let's get to break seven one three two, one two
five seven and will continue to roll along right here

Hey Steve, good morning.
Speaker 21 (01:14:00):
Good morning to you.
Speaker 9 (01:14:00):
How are you doing today.
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
We're fantastic. What's on your mind?
Speaker 21 (01:14:05):
I was listening to you about the smiles, and I
really love watching through Bond.
Speaker 5 (01:14:12):
That guy he's always got a.
Speaker 21 (01:14:14):
Big smile plastered on his face if he's even if
things are going south, he's always smiling. And the thing
is that I've learned across the statement that stress makes
you stupid, and when you frown, it takes up a
lot of energy, but when you smile, it takes up
a whole lot less energy. And rather than somebody being
(01:14:37):
concerned about the externals coming around, you know, like the
RBIs or where it might be, just get your own
emotions under control in the first place, and just smile
even when you're in the slump. It may have a
better effect than around it when you're in the slump.
So that was pretty much it. Just love watching du
(01:14:57):
Bond and I'm constantly smiling.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
Thank you, Steve. I think it's awesome. And just turn
that frown upside down.
Speaker 4 (01:15:04):
You gotta smile through the BS frown or He's right,
turn that frown upside down.
Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
It's the simplest turning that frown upside down. It's all
takes man. Here's our favorite Gil and Hockley Joe, Gil kill,
have you turned your frown upside down yet?
Speaker 9 (01:15:18):
Dog? It's not the joker. Are either smile or I'm
frown at one of the two men?
Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
Man man quit, Sean, Yes, yeah, year, we freaking go?
What's up?
Speaker 9 (01:15:34):
Oh wait wait wait wait now on you and just
asked a question.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
You have a son, I have two of them.
Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
Okay.
Speaker 9 (01:15:42):
So if you're Brian, what what are the kids ages
that you coach?
Speaker 22 (01:15:48):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
My group is now fifteen you they're freshman in high school.
Speaker 5 (01:15:52):
Okay.
Speaker 9 (01:15:53):
So, Sean, if you got a guy on the radio
and I don't know how you balances this act that
he f kids?
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Whoa? Whoa? What?
Speaker 6 (01:16:03):
Hold on?
Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
Hold on? Hold on? What did you just? Can you
rephrase that?
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
Gil?
Speaker 9 (01:16:10):
Aren't you always saying you don't want kids?
Speaker 5 (01:16:12):
Right?
Speaker 9 (01:16:12):
You don't like kids?
Speaker 5 (01:16:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
Thank you?
Speaker 4 (01:16:14):
Them kids? Not f kids. I don't f kids. It's weird, Gil, kids,
I'm not I'm not p diddy.
Speaker 3 (01:16:23):
Okay, Okay, so you're asking me. Okay, So he f
them kids and I have kids when they were his
age group, I mean the fifteen and under fifteen?
Speaker 9 (01:16:33):
And how does he how do you benefit Brian by
saying that and then DC, I'll coach your kids.
Speaker 3 (01:16:37):
But I have a he likes everybody else. He's just
like I do.
Speaker 4 (01:16:44):
Like that's why I coach Gil is because I enjoy
seeing the success of the younger generation in a game
that is really, really hard, and I love watching them
succeed through really hard times on the field. And I
just teach and coach as if to tell these kids
it's okay to fail in baseball because you're going to
get through it. But I don't want kids on my
own because they're annoying, they're they're expensive, they're stupid, they're crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:17:09):
Time to raise them.
Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
Plus, why would I want to bring a kid into
this world right now? Man, let's be real here, say
there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:17:16):
Have to have kids, man, right what what ask your
parents that?
Speaker 9 (01:17:20):
Maybe maybe you showed up and then they want you
who knows.
Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
Yeah, if my parents were alive, i'd i'd ask him that.
But they raised me in a completely different time, like
I was an eighty nine baby, So that's been nice.
Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
Yeah, you ought to ask Plea that one. So now
you just you Doug Gills feel guilty because he said
they ask your parents, Well, they're fast away, they are. Yeah,
I can't ask might either because they're the same spot. Hey,
they're up and heaven talking about your dumb ass phone
call again. The phone call guilt.
Speaker 9 (01:17:54):
I was wondering because you're okay, yeah, but you know
what guilt like.
Speaker 4 (01:17:59):
The parents of the kids that I coach have heard
me say that, and they also give me a hard
time because they listen to Sean and I on the show,
so they know that I don't want kids.
Speaker 3 (01:18:09):
Take out the emotions exactly. Kids. No, I mean I
love I want more kids actually, And you're like, I
have to have kids, you can have mine.
Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
Brian's going to give you a hard time about that,
but anyway.
Speaker 18 (01:18:22):
You need to figure out how you balance that, because
that's that's weird.
Speaker 3 (01:18:26):
Well he's already figured out out. He's actually coaching him,
so yeah, he's figured out to be a favorite.
Speaker 4 (01:18:32):
Gil fourteen years coaching.
Speaker 5 (01:18:33):
Now.
Speaker 9 (01:18:33):
Gil's like grandkids. You can give them back.
Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
That's right. You get to spoil them and give them
right back and let them, let them take care of
the others. And they real quick do me a favor,
turn that frown upside down. I appreciate it, Gil, anybuddy,
thanks can always count on Gill you know, Gil sees
a different force through the tree. He sure does love him,
(01:18:57):
but if there's a drum, he beats to a different one.
Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
I feel my guy. I feel like he has selective
hearing with our shows. There's because there's just some days
he'll call in and he'll ask you a question about
yourself that we've discussed numerous time, Sean, do you have
any kids?
Speaker 3 (01:19:11):
Dude?
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
He has three we've talked about and a daughter.
Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
My favorite too, is like there's a big difference between
f M kids and f kids. Yeah, come on, Gil, Hey,
that them's important is important.
Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
That's the only time a pronoun is going to be important.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
Man. It's like I showed you spacing matters when you
read a sentence. Hey, proper proper punctuation. It sure does.
Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Real quick, because we're gonna get into some NFL talk
textans talk at the eight o'clock hour. The hector NAIs
contract situation?
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
Was it right with the color?
Speaker 4 (01:19:48):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
No, I don't know what his contract status is.
Speaker 4 (01:19:52):
I texted Chandler Rome. I texted Chandler Rome of the
Athletic Beat writer and and I'm reading an athletic article
right here, So it looks like since he didn't reach
Heckernais didn't reach sixty appearances, that would that would get
his team option and it would convert into a player option.
(01:20:13):
He didn't reach it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
So is it And my question, I guess I should
ask when he was when our caller called in. My
thing is, if it happens on one team, do you
take on the rest of that even if he's DFA,
it's a new contract. It's a new contract, so that's
so that should be gone regardless if it's not the
same contract on appearances, then you're starting a whole new
and so he would have to make a whole bunch
(01:20:35):
of a paper. I don't I wouldn't think that. Let's
say he made fifty eight appearance to their yeah, and
you're afraid, well, what if he makes two? Here he
gets to the threshold of sixty and it becomes his well,
his contract. It's different. Now you're gonna pay him. It's
a completely different content. You're not taking on the money
that he's come from, right, You're this is a whole
new deal. Is if you cut him and grabbed him mind,
I mean grabbed him from his home and said here,
(01:20:56):
come with us. Here's the contract we are going to
sign with you, right, yeah, and veteran minimum. So I
did the I don't know if how that crossover works,
but I wouldn't think that that would hold true. But
I don't know the answer to that.
Speaker 4 (01:21:09):
Yeah, I don't either. So hopefully Chant the Room can
get back to me on that because he would know
the ins and outs of it. Let's let's get into
some NFL talk. What is going on with two a
tongue of Iloa and Brian.
Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
F and I Teaz yesterday Brian, let's get it in
his next two hours when you were finishing your call
is why do we expect CJ. Stroud to play better? Yeah,
let's let's do that with I was on in Indianapolis yesterday. Yeah,
and we were talking a bunch of about a bunch
of a bunch of quarterbacks in the division, all of them,
and then about c J. Stroud? Why why him? Well,
(01:21:43):
what's different about him than than the other guys? And
what do you expect from him this year? And uh,
high praise for him? So I think it's worth discussing
these next couple. Yes, yeah, let's let's discuss the J.
Stroud next?
Speaker 4 (01:21:54):
On S four STOK sevent to eighty as Houston.
Speaker 8 (01:21:57):
HD, Houston iHeart Radio Station.
Speaker 10 (01:22:00):
The Astros, the Rockets, Rockets East Fall, your home for
your home teams.
Speaker 8 (01:22:07):
This is Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 10 (01:22:08):
Ninety driven by that classic Elite to View at GMC
Studios for the elite car buying experience.
Speaker 8 (01:22:18):
Salisbury Albright Salsbury, Houston. Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury,
there to usc.
Speaker 17 (01:22:28):
Troupe, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 8 (01:22:30):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos.
Speaker 10 (01:22:33):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:22:38):
So cuts Cubs Cubs did him dirty?
Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
Yeah, no doubt they know if you're looking for somebody
who's trying to cut corners down. Yes, when it comes
to money and the rest of it. But once, for instance,
let's say I have a bonus in my contract as
a quarterback that if you throw for four thousand yards
to give you an extra two hundred fifty grand and
I throw for three hundred, three thousand, nine and ninety
(01:23:05):
yards and they decide, well, we're going to start the
other guy, and they decided to cut you. The contract's done.
Even if you got guaranteed money, contracts done. New contract
comes in that four thousand yard passing incentive doesn't hold true, right,
(01:23:25):
and with the CBA because it's a new team, new day.
It just so I understand what our caller was saying,
and it makes sense, but that this makes more sense
to me than somebody should be stuck with a team
that negotiated a previous contract on the player who got DFA.
It's a new deal, that's why it's that's why it's
veteran minimum as well.
Speaker 4 (01:23:44):
And I also want to give credit where credits due. Yeah,
Michael Schwab and the Apollo des both have let me
know about this, and they cited some sources. Jesse Rogers
of ESPN dot com. They send me these. I want
to make sure I give those two clowns there credit.
Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
There's no carry over when you cut from it to
cut DFA, you got cut. Yeah, for the most part,
that's uh, you know, but the contract I would think,
unless you know the CBA changed at some point, that
that's it null avoids it. Which the Cubs are the
ones who didn't get him to the point.
Speaker 4 (01:24:17):
Yeah, so basically they didn't let him get to sixteen
sixty innings.
Speaker 3 (01:24:21):
Well, the truth is, if you get him to sixty
innings and then you.
Speaker 4 (01:24:24):
Cut him you're you're on the hook for.
Speaker 3 (01:24:27):
Right, So they that that would have been on that
would have been the one team that is on the hook. Now,
if they would have traded him and you agreed to that,
let's say trade before the deadline, Yeah, and you said, yes,
different story, he didn't dfaver cut him. Now you're taking
on that exact contract, and if he had fifty cents,
that's the difference, and also cut in trade because the
trade you're still in the same deal.
Speaker 4 (01:24:49):
Said you dfaid him. He had to clear waivers because
if you claim on waivers, that contract goes over to
the new team. The new team because.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
They picked it up and they just took on what
they believe. That's why he cleared. Yeah, that's maybe that's
the part the caller was talking about in claring, not
that nobody's picked him up, that they didn't when he
was going through each team waiver wire their pass on
him because they know then the contracts as well a
couple more of what innings or whatever it is done.
But if you would have been traded before the deadline
and close, yeah, that team would have taken on that
(01:25:15):
contract because you've agreed to that deal. Whatever he was
traded for that's what you got because he's under contract.
It's as if he was still playing for the Cubs
when it comes to contract. So there's the difference.
Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
Let's tart to Holly real quick before we start talking Texans. Holly,
Good morning, Good.
Speaker 22 (01:25:29):
Morning, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:25:30):
How are y'all good?
Speaker 22 (01:25:31):
I just had a few comments in a question as
Horace Hector Nari's goes, he can't be any worse than
Caleb Fergerson is. I mean one two. He had a
good inning last night, but every other adding this guy
has really stuck it up. So for them to replace
Ferguson with Nares would be I think a great thing.
Also to the umpires last night and in this whole series,
(01:25:53):
they have been terrible. My question is do they not
have any consequences? I know they have a strong union
and they're pretty much untouchable, but the fact that you
can go and do your job make so many mistakes
and have no consequences, it's just absurd to me. And
then my last question is when they act to make
JV today, do they have to replace them? They have
(01:26:16):
to send down a picture or can I be a
position player? And I'll hang up and listen. Thank you guys,
Thank you Holly.
Speaker 4 (01:26:21):
I think with the umpire situation, Sean, I mean we've
talked about it, they're not really held accountable so and
they have an umpire's union, so basically they can.
Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
Their accountability comes from, oh, you're not going to get
a certain World Series assignment, you won't be in the place.
Say that's there. That's the accountability. I've always said, I'll
say it again whenever this comes up. I never and
I'll argue this till the cows come home. You'll make
a player be available at an All Star game for
the media, but somebody, and especially in a time when
(01:26:55):
gambling is so prevalent, and I'm not saying I'll do it,
but you got to guard against it. I don't understand
screw the crew chief having to give me the answers
if he didn't make the call. I want the guy.
Why is it that umpires and referees are free from
media scrutiny. They shouldn't be immune to that. They're getting paid,
(01:27:18):
they get insurance, they get benefits, they have a job.
I know it's a tough Jome. I don't want it.
I've just never understood why a guy who plays three
games and they want to make him available, goes to
the or plays in an NBA All Star Game that
nobody gives a rats ass about. Yeah, but man, remember
when Michael Jordan skipped that to go I think it
was the All Star game where he skipped it to
go to Vegas and like the media session to go
(01:27:39):
to Vegas and game won't play golf and it's still
many back for the game, right and probably wasn't who knows,
maybe won the MVP. I think I don't think it
was a playoffs. I think it was miss skipping a
media sesh Ford Austin that he had fined, whether he
paid it or not, who knows for one of those
things he got because he didn't want an exectly for whatever.
I'm I'm going to enjoy my time and so with this.
(01:28:00):
But I don't understand why and we made a big
deal over that. Why we're not making a big deal
over why an NFL referee who misses a pass interference
call doesn't have to show up. Just answer nobody. Nobody's
looking for you to change your answer, would you miss?
Just so we can understand the emotional side of what
you saw that we didn't see or that we saw
something different. Same with umpires. Why is it even if
(01:28:21):
you said it's a fifteen minute Well they got to
catch a plane. Who doesn't they all do. That's right,
so so to me. And once the crew is here
for that weekend, it's the crew for the weekend. They're
not going anywhere, just like the players aren't so or
for the weekday. Whatever the three or four game series.
I just I agree one hundred percent. I don't know
why they don't have to put a mic in front
(01:28:43):
of their face. They're making calls that are changing games.
Why in the world you don't have to answer to it.
I don't get it. But the quarterback does, the head
coach does. But we don't make that. Well, security screwed security.
Had we have policed the NBA better, maybe Donaghy doesn't.
Speaker 4 (01:29:00):
Get Maybe that does. That whole debacle doesn't happen. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Make them accountable standing up there and have a lie
detector person that knows how to read facial expressions in
a press if you're really worried about him, stick him
in front of it and understand voice inflection. They got
experts to do all this stuff. I just I think
it's I think I wouldn't want the job. I think
I have such respect for officials and referees and umpires,
but I can tell you this. They miss him and
(01:29:26):
players miss throws and guess what they got to do
answer to it?
Speaker 4 (01:29:30):
Yeah, they got to be accountable.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
I just don't know why that we don't have to
is why they don't have to as umpires.
Speaker 4 (01:29:36):
Or referees don't bury the lead.
Speaker 3 (01:29:37):
Though. What happens when the cows come home, Well, it
takes them a long time. Yeah, I mean you think
about it. If you're driving down a country road. You know,
just after you, you know, got out of chasing some
honey bees, you're walking down you know what I'm saying,
(01:29:59):
Calico cree, Yeah, yeah, we are okay. And then I
was walking down an older road one And sometimes when
you're walking down that older road, you'll pass the field
of Hey they just got it's just spin mode. And
if you just left me alone, I'd still be you know, man,
if you just let me alone, fishing still be fishing.
(01:30:21):
I would, okay. But the point is is, and when
you're walking along that road, you see a lot of cows,
and sometimes when you're driving it's like, damn that cow.
Look and you look and see the barn or the home,
miles or nothing. It's just out and you say, when
of those cows getting home? They you know, So they don't.
So it's like a New York minute. You know what
a New York minute is. So he says, oh man,
(01:30:42):
he got there in a New York minute. Fast. Yeah, yeah,
the country what's a country mile along? Right? So New
York the same thing here, cows going. I don't know
how long it takes the cows to come home, but
that's a long time, okay.
Speaker 4 (01:30:59):
Because if you really think about it, every time you
see cows, they're always in a pastor. They're never in
a barn.
Speaker 3 (01:31:03):
They're never like just out there doing their thing.
Speaker 4 (01:31:05):
It's either they're in a pastor or they're in a
trailer going somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (01:31:08):
And the cows are coming home before Scotty Scheffler, right
before before you you passed Scotty Scheffler in the FedEx
couple points Scottler, Scott comes, Scott yeah s f. So
that's that's what. I don't know when they're coming home,
but when they do, you know what's up.
Speaker 4 (01:31:26):
So it's not like when the fat lady sings, well, the.
Speaker 3 (01:31:28):
Opera's over when she sings, now she starts humming, it's
not over yet.
Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
So yeah, but an opera singer, they're not all fat though,
So they're fat, are they?
Speaker 3 (01:31:39):
With the pap pht now something the past, they'll go off.
You got to dig deep down into that.
Speaker 4 (01:31:45):
Well, if you're if you're an opera singer in San Antonio, lady, why.
Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
That ain't with a pH dude, No, with a full
blowed off? Right?
Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
Is that what you're showing pretty much?
Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
Yeah, So back to you want to know if the
opera the operating over till the fat lady sings. Yeah,
Well what happens if the opera you think it's over
and you go there and some thin lady comes out
there and starts singing.
Speaker 4 (01:32:10):
Well, then she's probably not very good.
Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
Or the opera that tells you that there's more.
Speaker 4 (01:32:14):
There's more coming from.
Speaker 3 (01:32:16):
The opera because a fat lady has that sung yet?
Speaker 5 (01:32:18):
Right?
Speaker 3 (01:32:19):
And do you tell a lady, hey, listen, you're the
end of the opera. Why why me I want to
be in part of it? Because you're fat? Because you
got to sing? You're the Osipic lady because you're fat. Yeah,
and what she says, you know, they sent me up here.
But it's with the.
Speaker 4 (01:32:34):
pH so like Lizen p so like Liz's with the pH. No, no, no,
she's not. You think it's a death. Yeah, I think
I think that's there. There's no brainer there.
Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:32:48):
Have you been to an opera before one?
Speaker 3 (01:32:51):
And I'm not not fond of I don't fall I
don't you know, get into tears over like operas to know.
Opera's fine, it's a it's okay, I'd rather go. I
love love musicals and plays, but I don't the opera
and me I'll do it because I respect their talent.
But I have to be I have to be bribed. Okay, yeah,
(01:33:13):
gotta be bribed. So you go to like, uh, you know,
I don't go to any side story. Now, west side Story.
I go to that's a musical.
Speaker 4 (01:33:22):
Street car named Desire.
Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
Well, yeah, great movie, by the way. Now I'll go
to those. Those aren't operas. Those are musicals, A big different. Okay,
what else we got talent and operas, But I'm a
musical and and I like that.
Speaker 4 (01:33:34):
I like I like the Greek tragedy.
Speaker 3 (01:33:37):
Yep, Okay, there you go.
Speaker 4 (01:33:38):
Yeah, you know anything about classically I was going to
a vehicle. I got one.
Speaker 3 (01:33:43):

Speaker 1 (01:35:01):
And a no, now you know.
Speaker 4 (01:35:06):
Yeah, it's got to be a picture picture ye chapter thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
That's right. We didn't answer that l yep, so I
apologize for just now getting to that. Thank you, Holly.
Speaker 4 (01:35:14):
Seven one three seven nine. We're gonna talk about c J.
Stroud this segment. Ryan, what's happening to dude?
Speaker 23 (01:35:21):
They're just trying to upload pictures of these houses that
we're trying to build.
Speaker 3 (01:35:24):
Uh but no, uh, c J.
Speaker 6 (01:35:26):
Stroud.
Speaker 23 (01:35:26):
I'm super excited about the Texans this year.
Speaker 5 (01:35:28):
I think this is the.
Speaker 23 (01:35:29):
First time in a long time I've been this excited
about football season. Uh was wondering what y'all thought about
Damian Peerson. Now he's been also triple y. I hope
you clipped. I like musicals because of how much Sean
gets in and crap about smoking poles. You better clip musical?
Speaker 3 (01:35:47):
How much I do you? What about smokers?
Speaker 6 (01:35:49):
I gotta get back to work.
Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Sid How much I give trouble to what?
Speaker 5 (01:35:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:35:53):
I could give you you smoking poles? Yeah, you're you're
over here talking about you like musicals?
Speaker 3 (01:36:00):
I do. I like movies music. You get a good musical, dude,
they're off the charts. You have you ever been to one? No?
I see you name the opera and different story. I'm
not going to the opera, like I said, unless I'm bribed.
I don't. I don't want to go and drunk, respect talent. No,
I won't go there because well, at least you'll stay
away because the loud voices and how talented they are
(01:36:21):
will keep you. I'm sure that. I'm sure I'd probably
like it. But I do like musicals. Man, if you
haven't been to you just named a few. Who doesn't
want to go? Oh you don't? Obviously some really good stuff. Man,
there's some gift that I I do it. There's some
good stories out there. So yeah, okay, so that I
love musicals if they're good ones.
Speaker 4 (01:36:41):
So if you had, you know, a ten out of
ten approach you zoid all right? And she says, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:36:51):
She says, what a boring topic this has.
Speaker 4 (01:36:54):
She says, you the only way that you can you
can have a chance with me.
Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
You got shot at the title.
Speaker 4 (01:37:01):
You got a shot at the title, all right, is
you gotta take me to the opera.
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
You know what I say, bitch, The only way you
got to shot it with me is if I don't go.
Speaker 8 (01:37:11):
Actually what I'm talking about?
Speaker 4 (01:37:13):
Yeah, dog, yeah, he gets and you were like, yeah,
I'd say it's.
Speaker 3 (01:37:23):
Like, bitch, let's let's reverse this. You maybe a ten
in some areas, you ain't wrong with me. If you
forced me to go, you could get to step in
and get step in right, hit the bricks, Yeah, that's right,
feet on the street.
Speaker 4 (01:37:36):
And also that's there is a there is something to it.
Just because you're a ten and in Alpine doesn't mean
you're a ten here.
Speaker 3 (01:37:42):
I don't care if you're a ten and ten in Scottsdale,
Newport Beach, right here, in Houston or Dallas. I can't
care less where you're a ten. I'm not I'm not
kneeling down to tell you this.
Speaker 8 (01:37:53):
Yeah, let me go.
Speaker 3 (01:37:54):
No, you're not gonna like me if I don't go
to the opera with you. Take your girlfriend. I'll be
on a golf course. I'll see you later. I'll be
with my But he's having a hot dog and a
cold beer.
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
I had an unpopular opinion, A ten in Dallas is
better than a ten here.
Speaker 3 (01:38:08):
Okay, career disagree. I think a ten in Dallas is
probably a ten here, and I think a ten here
maybe a ten in Dallas if you get to I mean, well,
come on, man, that's.
Speaker 4 (01:38:18):
But that's you're you're what about a ten in Scottsdale
would be in Newport Beach like you just said, well,
ten in Minneapolis.
Speaker 3 (01:38:29):
Are you disrespecting the age town when it comes to tens?
Speaker 5 (01:38:31):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:38:31):
No, no, I'm not disrespecting age town.
Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
Four or five places that you think got more tints.
I mean they do have tins here, don't they here?
You think there's more of them somewhere else, you're saying,
you're saying there's more of them somewhere else. Could be?
Could be you threw Minneapolis in there. Yeah, let's go back, though.
Did you tell me that I'm gonna did you think
something of that kind of on a ten? Dallist? And
(01:38:56):
I'm willing to do stuff I don't want to do,
you know, to make your girl happy. You're ten happy.
I'm okay with doing. It's not selfish. But there's certain
things that I would never ask the ten or your
girl or my girl or a wife to do. Of course,
she says, I do. I can't stand going there. Well,
if you don't go, we're breaking up. You don't like baseball.
Well if your goal with break, well, that's okay. That's
(01:39:18):
a perfect excuse for me and say great, I can
go drink beer with my buddies together with your girls
wherever you want to go. So I know, but I'm
not getting if you're If put it this way, I
don't do ultimatums very well in relationships, never have.
Speaker 4 (01:39:33):
Okay, So you're not going to the opera to get
a shot at the title.
Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
Which means I'll die a loge what I'm a hundred
to do? No, I don't. I don't play that, man.
I'm not a big ultimatum guy, especially if the ultimatum
is the opera. Now there's something they want to do.
Did you know you're you're you're zoid that they want
to do that that maybe you're not feeling it but
you're going to do it to make them happy, Fine,
(01:39:59):
but I'd make them more miserable if I went, because
I just I wouldn't want to be there. It's like,
what's the other one where they're uh where they did
the dance round TIW What's what's that called a ballet?
Do you talented? I couldn't pay me I go to
the opera before the ballet.
Speaker 4 (01:40:14):
I would go to the opera for That's.
Speaker 3 (01:40:15):
What I'm saying. And I know there's people who freaking
love it, and I know the skill set all of it.
I got zero interest. I know they're talented. I'll watch it.
Show me a tape, show me a clip, a minute thirty. Yeah,
I'm not going. I've never been and I'll never go
that that I'm telling you always never to say.
Speaker 4 (01:40:31):
I will never go to the ballet. No, you couldn't
pay me to go. Ever, I don't care how much money.
Speaker 3 (01:40:36):
And I know they're gifted and I respect them, but
that's two hours on never three hours. I'll never never
get back, never going. Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:40:43):
Tim on Twitter wants Tripley to change the bump music
for Mondays and call it musical Mondays.
Speaker 3 (01:40:51):
We'll get right on it. Everybody's got a suggestion called
musical mondays yeah, and then also, uh got that all handled?
Speaker 4 (01:41:02):
At my nineteenth fol on Twitter says, how about the
chickens coming home to roost?
Speaker 3 (01:41:07):
The other one?
Speaker 4 (01:41:09):
The other one cow's coming home?
Speaker 3 (01:41:11):
Chickens coming home to roost? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
Do they not roost at home?
Speaker 3 (01:41:16):
Oh well, apparently they're coming home to roost talk. Ballet
and me don't agree. Ever happened?
Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
Ballet and me don't agree?
Speaker 3 (01:41:25):
Yeah? What is what? I would you go see the
Nutcracker at Christmas?
Speaker 5 (01:41:28):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:41:29):
I mean you get that six to five days a
week on this show exactly. I can be convinced to
go see the Nutcracker. I guess I'm not going because
it's Christmas and you're in the spirit for somebody else.
I'm not buying tickets just for me, I guess.
Speaker 4 (01:41:42):
Not for me.
Speaker 2 (01:41:43):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:41:43):
I would rather go through big neighborhoods and look at
Christmas all.
Speaker 3 (01:41:46):
If you're going through hell, keep on moving, don't slow down.
That's what I did, you scare keep get I don't know.
I know those people who love the Ballets. Respect, yeah,
I just can't do it. Yeah, respect their town stuff.
(01:42:07):
I could never do. But I have no interest in it.
I'm trying to figure out how you paint the story
by doing ballet for me. I don't know any I
got no interest. I'll fall asleep.
Speaker 4 (01:42:15):
Bryant Burrows wanted to tell you good morning, good morning,
good morning. And on that note, we got to get
a break.

cutting trees, cutting trees, Brother, trying to get the people
what they want.
Speaker 4 (01:44:46):
Man, We'll glad to hear your voice again.
Speaker 24 (01:44:48):
Man, always listening though, you know me hit phone in here.
Always got to listen to y'all.
Speaker 5 (01:44:53):
My day.
Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
Don't start with y'all.
Speaker 24 (01:44:55):
I know I've died and I'm somewhere I shouldn't be,
you know what I mean. Anyway, anyway, I'm just enjoying
my cigar full of runts. And I had a question
on the Astros and on CJ. First on the Astros,
if everything goes the way it's going now, Kakuchie stays
(01:45:16):
the way he is. Hunter continues this fu fastball and
areng Getty stays swagtastic. Verlander comes out just Berlander, you
know what I mean? Two runs three runs every game,
blah blah blah. When it comes a playoff time, who
are you sitting to miss that first playoff?
Speaker 5 (01:45:36):
You know?
Speaker 8 (01:45:37):
Aods, I guess.
Speaker 24 (01:45:39):
And second, CJ Stroud, I was listening to Mena Comes
the other day. Rookie year, Patrick Mahomes struggled with the
cover two Sean, you'll understand that better than anybody. And
last year they tried to confuse CJ with cover two
and she said that was his highest percent. It is,
(01:46:01):
so I don't understand why he can't have a good
sophomore season like Patrick Mahomes. I just don't understand it.
And you fellas, stay safe, have a good college football
weekend because I'm sure I'll be working and as always appreciated.
Speaker 3 (01:46:20):
Did he say smoking the good stuff? Just I like
his style. I'm not a smoker, but I do like
his style is get out of there, moving trees, got
a relaxed dog, the gots to hey. Uh. First of all,
on the astros part, Kkuchi Verlander Brown fromber Yeah, that's
(01:46:43):
your four. Yep, I agree. Blanco in a bullpen, Raghetti
in a bullpen unless you need a spot star. Yeah,
there that's your That is your four. Guys Verlander for
Cagy experience and what he brings to the table. The
other three on performance period, which gives you two left
handers as well. Correct in the football side of it,
(01:47:04):
Cover two is a pretty base coverage. Mahomes obviously sat
his whole rookie year, Alex Smith played until the last
game he played one game.
Speaker 5 (01:47:14):
C J.
Speaker 3 (01:47:15):
Strout has obviously a leg up on that because he
did start as a rookie. Cover two is as simple
for people, don't it's it's just two high safeties. When
you see those safeties split in the middle of the
field is open and they split and run to their
half the field on the staff of the ball. I'd say,
if I could draw it up well on TV at
nine o'clock hour and we get the rolling space city right,
(01:47:35):
draw it up and then see it and get to
the point where I can tell you what that does.
But Cover two, I don't know. The struggle of cover two.
The cover two is you got to be patient and
a lot of teams love to run the ball versus
Cover two. The middle of the field where you running
like deep dig routes. In cut routes, there's big windows
and Cover two there in the middle of the field.
If the Mike linebackers not athletic, that whole middle of
(01:47:57):
the field open. Where you see that bender, where that
like rip shot posts that Manning used to call and
play action Brady ran at to Gronkowski's like a twenty
two yard throw. It's like a one ball over the
Mike linebacker. It's not really that difficult to coverage if
you're patient and you read it out and C J.
Stroud who what do I say? Those the best? Like
that Sale route where you push up fifteen and roll
(01:48:18):
to twenty twelve, roll to eighteen between the sideline and
the numbers top of the numbers in the sideline, and
he rips it there. He is the best in that
deep dig. He's the best intermediate thrower I think we
have in a league on consistently, with consistency, with accuracy
and proper laying. So I don't you know, I don't
see why Adrian. I do not only expect him not
(01:48:40):
to have a bad year. I expect him to have
a monster here. Better band, with better team, better roster,
They're going to see the ball more from their defense.
Defense will score more because they're better. They're going to
pressure the quarterback. I don't see one ounce the slump.
Regardless of what the numbers say. You know they'll make
some place, But I don't see c J. Stroud taking
a step back. I think certain guys understand how to
(01:49:01):
get through their program. He didn't make it. See he
didn't make all these plays off schedule. That's what yeah,
Guys who make plays off schedule eventually gets down to
the play where dude, you're gonna beat me some other way.
You don't get just run around and make a play.
It's on schedule.
Speaker 5 (01:49:13):
C J.
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
Stroud beat Most of his throws are on schedule, in
time with rhythm, taking care of his business, and then
he can buy time and create off schedule, which we've
seen him do, but he doesn't live there. Where he
lives is on schedule. And if you're on schedule and
reading it out, Honestly, I don't know how sophomore slumps
kicked in. It's when you're trying to do much get
a little lucky off schedule. You throw a side on
(01:49:34):
the ball, he gets tipped ends up in your guy's hands.
But when you understand what you're looking at and you've
got that skill set, I don't understand why we automatically
assume a good rookiear he equals to software. So no,
Marino didn't have one. I don't expect elwaight. I mean
it's c J. Stroud. There's enough deep football IQ substances.
(01:49:56):
I think that he's primed for a better year with
better players as long as he doesn't think he has
to make every play, and he shouldn't on this roster,
shouldn't have to make them all. So no, on schedule,
on time, he won't struggle.
Speaker 5 (01:50:09):
C J.
Speaker 3 (01:50:09):
Stroud will have I don't. I don't think you should
expect him to have a decent year. I would expect
him to have a monster year.
Speaker 4 (01:50:15):
Who would you take Stroud? Okay, I'm gonna tease it
for next second. Okay, tease me up because they you
want me to tease you dog? Yeah, okay, start me
up a rolling Stones?
Speaker 3 (01:50:32):
Yeah? Nick would say.
Speaker 4 (01:50:33):
Jagger, Yeah, what do you got for me?
Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:50:37):
Would you take c J. Stroud or Jordan Love to
win a Super Bowl first?
Speaker 3 (01:50:44):
Or period?
Speaker 4 (01:50:45):
First?
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (01:50:46):
Ryan Clark and UH club Shannon Sharp. Yeah, they discussed
yesterday on UH on the Four Letter Network, and I
want to get your opinion on it because I value
your opinion more than Ryan Clark's stumbass. But move Yeah,
Let's let's talk about that next. Let's also talk about

Putting the logic in illogical.
Speaker 10 (01:52:39):
Former pro Jump Salisbury continues to break it down one
seven ninety twenty.
Speaker 4 (01:52:44):
Five and hundred quarterbacks in the NFL. Who do you
trust more to get to a Super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (01:52:50):
C J.
Speaker 4 (01:52:51):
Stroud or Jordan Love? This is what Ryan Clark and
Channon Sharp had to say.
Speaker 7 (01:52:57):
But I trust CJ. Stroud, I trust season for this
week reason. He's still on the rookie contract. And when
you have a quarterback that's on the rookie contract, who
can play all Pro level ball or play Pro Bowl
level ball.
Speaker 8 (01:53:10):
You can add pieces around him.
Speaker 7 (01:53:11):
You go out and you get Joe Mixon, you add
Stefan Diggs to the wide receiver corps. But you also
improve your defense with the Nico Artrey, with Danil Hunter,
you had a zz at the linebacker position. You go
out and draft Lasseter High from the Georgia Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
They've built this.
Speaker 7 (01:53:28):
Team to win right now with the quarterback who can
play at a level, with the Joe Burrows, with the
Josh Allens, with the Lamar Jackson's, and yes, with the
Patrick Mahomes when the time is right. And so I
believe looking at all of these things at CECJ. Stroud,
what he was able to do as a rookie, Demico
Ryans and the way that he coached him, the way
that he led that team, and Bobby Slowick showing once
(01:53:50):
again that that McDaniel Shanahan, that sort of tree is
a perfect fit for quarterbacks who can run the play action,
who can make decisions quickly. And we watched go toe
to toe with Joe Burrow last year in Cincinnati, where
Joe played well. We saw him go toe to toe
with Baker Mayfield when they scored thirty eight in Houston,
leading a touchdown drive with the minute left to go
(01:54:12):
in the game. I think all of these things for CJ.
Stroud saying that he's the type of player that can
cannot only win a super Bowl in the future.
Speaker 5 (01:54:20):
C J.
Speaker 7 (01:54:21):
Strou and nim can win the Super Bowl this year.
Speaker 4 (01:54:24):
Yeah, and he kind of you hear is kind of
fading out. He said they could win a super Bowl
this year. Who do you trust more? Jordan loves c J.
Strout Stroud. Stroud's a better player on a better team
with better roster. Pretty simple.
Speaker 3 (01:54:39):
And Ryan Clark's point of and it's good to get
the good get well, the getting's good now because at
some point if all these guys, you know, the Tank
Dell's and the contracts come up, eventually, what happens players
leave and go get more money. So it's a valid
point of where he is to free up more money
(01:55:01):
to go get great players because you're in a rookie contract,
No doubt that's a big part of it. But let
me just get you the brass tacks. Jordan loves the
hell of a talent. We've both only seen them for
the most part playing one full season for the most part,
the one's been in the league longer. But to me, well,
if you ask thirty two coaches pick one guy for
(01:55:22):
the next eight years, I would be shocked if that
number wasn't twenty seven to seven or twenty seven to five.
We have thirty three teams, yeah, third, not thirty four
to thirty two teams. If it wasn't overwhelming Stroud over Love.
But I'm assuming those other guys, and I'm not saying
(01:55:44):
it's a big distance. If Jordan Love was here, you'd
be happy he was here. Oh yeah, before you got Stroud.
Stroud's just different and Love may end up being different too.
But if you're saying, Sewan, you have to make a decision,
you don't get You don't get to labor over this.
I'm taking Stroud. What what doesn't he do well? Excuse me,
what doesn't he do well? It's not a better team
(01:56:06):
green Bay?
Speaker 11 (01:56:06):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
Green Bay's good. This team's better. So I'll ask you this,
if Jordan Love came here, where do you have more success?
Jordan Love here, c J Stroud here?
Speaker 9 (01:56:18):
I think c J.
Speaker 4 (01:56:18):
Stroud here?
Speaker 3 (01:56:19):
Agreed, No, I think he's a better player. And the
roster's better, and both coaches are really good. Both coaches
come from that tree and system. The Miko Ryance from here,
and you know that whole group that's been through a
lot of them coaching on the same staff together. I'll
take CJ. Stret not because I live here, because what
I see tells me he's a more consistent, better player.
(01:56:41):
I think Jordan Love has spectacular ability, and I think
he's he's going to be really good. And I don't
discount the fact that c. J. Stroud's lived in one
hundred thousand Seed Stadium since he played went to college.
That does matter to me. Not that Jordan Love did,
but the crowds in now that he's been in Green Bay,
it's one of the more passionate places to play all
that stuff. He's had a chance to sit back and
walk watch Aaron Rodgers do it, and now when he
(01:57:03):
got his chance, he seized it and was really good.
But I'll take c J. Stroud. It would be that
twenty five, twenty six and under club. There's some really
good ones, but I'd have a hard time finding anybody
I want more at that age, and those two I'll
tell you want to give me Love and you take Stroud,
I'll live with it. And well, I'm gonna win a
(01:57:23):
lot of games. But if you're saying super Bowl, and
who I'd want more super Bowl? This team's just better.
But the other point is the quarterbacks in the AFC
overall are far better and deeper. It's a far deeper
The eighth quarterback in the AFC maybe the third best
in the NFC. Who are the best quarterbacks in the NFC?
Jared Goff, golf Love, Prescott Cousins.
Speaker 4 (01:57:50):
Yeah, down in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (01:57:50):
Now you want me to go to the AFC when
you're a Stafford, Yeah, Stafford party Purty all good. Yeah,
but the depth of the the depth of the NFC.
Speaker 4 (01:58:01):
Yeah, but then you go, I mean, look at the
AFC East, Josh Allen to a tongue of Ioloa, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 3 (01:58:07):
Herbert Mahomes, Watson, Jackson Burrow. Who else am I missing
in that division? Who knows?
Speaker 5 (01:58:16):
You know?
Speaker 4 (01:58:16):
The AFC South, you got young young quarterbacks, Travis Lawrence.
Speaker 3 (01:58:20):
But Lawrence is a is a player, Stroud's a player.
And you got two guys in those other two cities
that have ability through the roof. It's just now, I'm
not I'm not the the NFCA, Chopp delivered the a
f C is better quarterback position, especially at the top heavy.
I mean, there's there's the seventh guys, an m VP candidate,
So I mean it's.
Speaker 5 (01:58:38):
Just to me.
Speaker 3 (01:58:39):
I'll take I'll take C. J. Stroud though, And it's
really a fairly easy decision for me, even though I
think Jordan Loves got a chance to be a superstar
in the league. Yeah, I think he's got a chance
to be really good. But right now, taking here's I'm
taking Stroud. He'll have to do a lot to prove
to me that he's not a major guy in this league.
Right he already has. Now he's got a repeat it
(01:59:00):
second year, maybe a little more difficult than the first
for a lot of reasons, but it isn't going to
be a slump, I assure you.
Speaker 4 (01:59:06):
Speaking of quarterbacks to a tongue of I Looa was
on a podcast and he had some things to say
about his former head coach, Brian Flores. Says the things
Brian Flores responded yesterday, Let's talk about that next right
here on Sports Talk sevent to.

Salisbury.
Speaker 1 (02:00:05):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 8 (02:00:09):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
To usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 10 (02:00:15):
Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:00:23):
To a tongue of Ioloa. Quarterback for the Miami Dolphins,
had some things to say about his former head coach,
Brian Flores. He was on the Dan Levitard Show with
Stu Gotts and Dan Letard asked him about his tenure
being a player under Brian Flores, and this is what
Tua had to say.
Speaker 25 (02:00:44):
To put it in simplest terms, if you woke up
every morning and I told you you sucked at what
you did, that you don't belong doing what you do,
that you shouldn't be here, that this guy should be here,
that you haven't earned this right. And then you have
(02:01:05):
somebody else come in and tell you, dude, you are
the best fit for this, Like you are accurate, you
are the best whatever you are this you are that,
Like how would it make you feel listening to one
or the other? You see what I'm saying, and that
you hear it. You hear it regardless of what it is,
the good or the bad, and you hear it more
(02:01:26):
and more. You start to actually believe that, I don't
care who you are, you could be the president of
the United States. You have a terrible person that's telling
you things that you don't want to hear or that
you probably shouldn't be hearing.
Speaker 1 (02:01:39):
You're gonna start to believe that about yourself.
Speaker 25 (02:01:41):
And so that's sort of like what ended up happening,
And it was, I mean, it's basically been what two
years of training that out of not just me, but
you know a couple of the guys as well that
have been here since my rookie year all the way
till now.
Speaker 4 (02:01:56):
All Right, So that's Too a tongue of iolo and
talking about Brian Floor as well. Brian Floor as Uh
he is with the Vikings now former head coach of
the Miami Dolphins. He responded to a tongue of Io
Lois comments, you know, specific to.
Speaker 1 (02:02:11):
Uh, you know the comments that were laid by Tua.
I just want to say, look, I'm I'm.
Speaker 26 (02:02:17):
I'm happy, genuinely happy, uh, genuinely genuinely happy for the
success that Too has had.
Speaker 1 (02:02:26):
And I really wish him nothing but the best.
Speaker 9 (02:02:29):
Uh.
Speaker 26 (02:02:31):
And you know, I think, you know, player relationships are
very important to me. They I think that's kind of
the foundation of coaching. And I got into coaching because,
you know, I was impacted as a as a as
a young guy by my high school coaching, my college coaching,
my going away to Pop Warner. I got into coaching
because you know, I want to make that same kind
(02:02:53):
of impact, positive impact poor into young people, help him
become you know, as Ko says all the time, the
best of.
Speaker 1 (02:02:59):
The of themselves. And you know that's really my goal
always a coaching So I wish nothing but the best
of Tour.
Speaker 26 (02:03:11):
And you know, really, more than anything, I'm just focused
on the on the on the Vikings twenty twenty four Vikings.
Speaker 1 (02:03:20):
The players we have. We saw a couple of guys
up here, you know, just a couple minutes ago, Matellis
and HP.
Speaker 26 (02:03:26):
I think you know their leadership, their uh, their friendship
is important to me, and I'm just I'm excited about
this group.
Speaker 9 (02:03:37):
All right.
Speaker 4 (02:03:37):
That's Brian Floores is a response Sean said, I saw one.
Speaker 3 (02:03:40):
Maybe it was joking when somebody down in Miami Dolphins
site yesterday said that. He said, well, too is soft
and that's not the way basically paraphrasing too is soft,
and uh, this is grown ass man sports. So that's
was that was that fake because it was on the
Miami Dolphins. I who loved That's yeah, That's why when
I was on doing Dan Dokts just they said, I
don't know, they say something to say, I don't know.
(02:04:00):
That's why, you know, the one I'm talking about it
was fake. So my question to you is, is to
a soft or is Brian Floores an ass hat? Here's
what I think about this, and I don't I don't know.
I think there's no doubt that he's got that part
of it in between. I think there I rarely say
(02:04:23):
this when it comes to that. First of all, I
told you yesterday. I do not like maybe I didn't
tell you this, but I don't like I was thinking
maybe I said it on with with Doc and yesterday.
I don't like Aaron Laundry about former players and coaches
when they're out of the building. I don't know if
you're going to err it Eric while they're in. You
should grow a set, whether it's to any of us
in anybody out there. If you got something to say,
(02:04:43):
go say it now. When he said to the song,
he goes and you got to have a bad guy
telling you this that that's deep. Now, that's that's a
character either flaw or a character assassination. Man, here's how
I feel. I don't like. I know people ask, we
think we'll me say this. It gets light. I don't
know what to to it seems like just a good dude,
(02:05:04):
But I don't know what the were you accomplished by
saying this? Hey man, I didn't you know? Would it
have been simpler? And my words? I mean, he could
say what he wants for him, but would it have
been simpler to say Brian's a good football coach? We
were we did. We didn't mesh well, yeah we did
either the way his coaching didn't match my sure and
going there, Butody Walksley, see, to me, it looked like
(02:05:26):
Brian Flores took the high road because he probably could
have got a few digs in there that he didn't like,
but took the hy And that's okay. I'm not on
either guy's side, and I rarely will sit there and
say I think they're both right? Do I think that
too is right? That this that you have somebody brow
beating you regularly or complimenting regularly, you start to believe
they're starting to share. I would hope that to his
(02:05:47):
personality and his confidence or self worth has been shaped
a lot sooner than this. But and you think the
ray he was raised his dad, and you throw a
pick on a Friday night high school football, you getting whipping.
Yeah his from where he comes from, Hawaii, And they're
not soft. Yeah no, they're tough, tough, And he was
there like you re college game. They were he was
(02:06:09):
his dad. He threw a pick, Yeah, his dad, he
got his ass whooped at home. And so I mean
he didn't he didn't grow up in a soft household.
But it is true that the more you hear something,
you start to buy into it. Enough of the brow beating,
he's like, dude, thirty five or thirteen, it's like enough.
And then the other side is true, whether it's that
the confidence you start somebody tells you you're good all
(02:06:30):
the time, you start to say, well, let me do this,
I start to believe it. I get it. I would
hope you're strong enough as a quarterback that even if
it's your coach saying that the year, wise enough to
know deep inside you that you're a pretty damn good player.
Right Well, when the head coach is telling you, it's like, okay,
somebody else should be here, Dude, why am I? Why
are we here together?
Speaker 5 (02:06:47):
Right?
Speaker 3 (02:06:47):
I get that, And you're probably going to get that
in more places than you'd think. And I don't think
Brian Flores is wrong either by complimenting Toua, And I
think that, Yeah, I don't think you're wrong either, do
I think that there's a bit of concern of mine
that if things go bad, how will to respond? Because
yet he was with a tough coach in college and
Saban as well. Is there a part of you that says,
(02:07:10):
when there's two minutes to go. Is too tough enough
to take a shot to the mouth and come back? Well,
you saw him in the concussion thing, come back in play.
So I don't question his toughness, but I think people
are going to say, well to say that, are you softy?
You need somebody to tell you how great you are
all the time instead of a tough love. I don't
know that answer with him, never been around him, but
I think there's part of it. I think that he
(02:07:30):
could probably toughen up a little if somebody's given him
tough love. And on the other side, do I think
Brian Flores, if he was like that, that he needs
to adjust his coaching style the next time around a
little bit. If you're just a constant beatdown on your players, yeah,
that would bother me. And if you're into relationships and
fostering those, then you got to do better. Maybe that's
(02:07:53):
the reason you're not a head coach and you missed
out on a couple gigs. I think they're both somewhere
in the mine. I think they're both right, and I
think they both are wrong on certain aspects of it.
As a quarterback, you better be tougher than that as
a head coach, you better foster better relationships or you
won't be a head coach again. Regardless of the x's
and o's. You know, do you, especially in this day
and age when we are built with sensitive soft tell
(02:08:16):
me how great I am players instead of telling me
what I need to do to get better.
Speaker 4 (02:08:21):
Where does the success of a football team start in
the NFL?
Speaker 3 (02:08:25):
Well, to me, it starts with wherever, whoever the leadership
role it starts. You know, I'm a big believer all
the way through. It's with this when you bring it
in here the FORR instance, Yeah, it started with the
head coach, to permit, that's me, the owner, hied, the
right head coach, and then the head coach. That confidence
goes up to the top, and it goes down to
the bottom, right, and it goes through everybody, good or bad,
(02:08:47):
depending on what kind of guy you are.
Speaker 4 (02:08:48):
So starting with we'll just say the head coach, right,
and then obviously the success of a football team starts
at the quarterback. Correct.
Speaker 3 (02:08:55):
Oh, there's no doubt.
Speaker 4 (02:08:56):
What's been made so many different times with successful football teams.
The relationship betwe the head coach and the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (02:09:01):
And the continuity with front office and ownership.
Speaker 4 (02:09:04):
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (02:09:08):
All the years in Pittsburgh, all the years in San Francisco, quarterback,
head coach, quarterback change on this team, Listen, ownership was
the same. Yeah, Nick Cassaria was the same, same guys.
So if you tell me that his impact is they
hired the right coach who not only it's not that
you're just in charge of the guys that you coach,
that you're there subordinate as a head coach and the
people that building the equipment, manage and the rest of it.
Speaker 8 (02:09:29):
But think what he did now.
Speaker 3 (02:09:30):
Think about how we talk about the mcnairs now as
a fun, loving ownership that gets it. Two years ago
we were like sell the team, right, That's how people felt.
And then look at Nick and say, oh, we don't
want the Patriot Well you do want the Patriot way,
the winning way, and his talent evaluation has been outstanding.
But Deico kid. But when Lovey was doing his thing
(02:09:50):
and I like love he's but as a head coach
the one year Kully, they hadn't found that right mix yet.
People wanted Casario out, So you hired Demico Ryans. And
what happens instantly front office becomes more confident and more affable.
The head, the general manager, becomes more where he gets
to do his job, and now the face of the
organizations that have to be Nic Casario, it's Demico Ryans
(02:10:11):
and CJ. Stroud. And then you bring that coach and
he says, no, we're doing it this way. You will
be accountable. Here's how we practice. Here's how we do it.
Upstairs and downstairs doesn't matter. Here's how we're doing it.
But we do, but not in a dictator way, but
in a way that here's how we're going to do it,
but we'll make adjustments along the way. There's a flexibility
does matter. And then you bring a quarterback in who
(02:10:32):
has the same approach you do, and that permeates to
your whole building. Now people want to be here and
that changed. Why not because the ownership changed, not because
of GM changed. It changed because the head coach who
got the right people in here and set a tempo
and set here's how we're doing it. Every team I've
ever been on that's been good, the coach is the
(02:10:53):
main the head start for it all. And then you
get good players the coach teaching you how you're doing it,
and those types guys. Tua right now believes that Mike
McDaniel would run through a wall for him, and that's
a good thing. But there's gonna come a time when
Tua Mike McDaniel's gonna have to dress him down. What
are you gonna do? So they're right, both right, both wrong,
(02:11:14):
and Brian Brian's gonna have to change if this is true.
Brian's tough is one thing, Abut con't trying to break
a guy. This isn't the you know, the officer and
a gentleman where you get the guy and putting his
face in the mud. To military, this is what your
relationships matter and confidence does matter. And I would think
(02:11:35):
as a coach, even if I didn't believe a guy
is a great player, I sure want him to play
like one when it's nut cut in time. So I'm
a self esteemed builder but a real But I also
I'm not kissing your ass to tell you you played
great when you threw four picks and your decision sucked.
If you can't handle tough coaching in a film room,
I suggest you take two weeks off and quit and
find a new sport to play, So they're both right
(02:11:56):
and both wrong.
Speaker 4 (02:11:57):
See what's going on with Oklahoma State football?
Speaker 3 (02:12:00):
Gundy's mad at agent's coming in and NIL stuff. Is
that the part you're talking about? I did see that
as part of it. Yeah, well that's Hey, I want this.
They're negotiating contracts for a seventeen eighteen year old, nineteen
year old kid. Yeah, I've had it with the nil
stuff I have, but I'm bited to it. The rules
allow it. I'm tired of it. I guess to where
(02:12:21):
you know, the parents and the kid are asking how
much money are you going to pay me? As this
eighteen year old going into college as opposed to am
I going to get a chance to start? What do
I got to do to be the Yeah? But that's
this is the reality we're in. So you either embrace
it or you get left behind.
Speaker 5 (02:12:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:12:34):
Mike Gundhy for Oklahoma State not happy. Also, his players
are going to have to start wearing something on their
helmets and it has to do with nil Are you
kidding me? Let's discuss the next.
Speaker 3 (02:12:43):
Hey, and we'll also discuss why men'st clinic's a life changer,
game changer for so many. You've heard it here from
me Brian and ten look, I mean five convenient locations here.
Ten years of anniversary happened this summer with MEN'ST Clinic
making a difference, guys. And we could tell you all
the shot and all the wellness and the great optimization
(02:13:04):
team at Men's Tea, with the five convenient locations that
you can insurance, take insurance, all these things that matter.
But I can tell you this. You want it done right.
You want it done efficiently and with some sense of urgency.
So when you go in and draw blood that's not invasive,
and they check out all your levels and then they say, okay,
here's what we got to do to normalize your levels,
(02:13:25):
get your life back. Sluggish, lack of energy, you're in
the sheet, you're not any good right now. And your
full body wellness, which is really what this is. It's
not just sexual welln it's full body wellness. So if
you've been there and you know it's good, and then
you lost and you say, well, I got to give
my T levels check, go do it. It's not invasive,
it's simple, and then we can get to fixing it
and getting your life back, don't you deserve it or
(02:13:47):
do you don't want to wallow and self pity and
struggling and Mom's not happy and you're having a miserable
day every day and you don't know why. It could
be simply as normalizing your testosterone. Go get it done.
It's Men's Tea Clinic ten year anniversary, Still doing their thing,
making a difference in lives. They make a difference in
your lives. Get out a lower gear. It's Men's t
Clinic dot com, Men's TA Clinic dot com or nine
to seven to two go Men's Teas.
Speaker 8 (02:14:08):
The hottest takes in Houston's.
Speaker 17 (02:14:11):
Sports so emotionally tied to the team.
Speaker 10 (02:14:14):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues, AHI, that's not one Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (02:14:19):
What's going on?
Speaker 5 (02:14:19):
Brian?
Speaker 17 (02:14:20):
Hey you, what's up?
Speaker 4 (02:14:22):
What's happening?
Speaker 27 (02:14:23):
I just want to give a shout out to make
a wish today. They're out of the nrg uh making
a wish having for one of the kiddos they got.
He wanted to see Stephan Diggs, so they're making that
happen for him. I just want to give a shout
out for that great organization.
Speaker 3 (02:14:36):
They are appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (02:14:38):
Brian, thank you for that call. It's good stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:14:41):
You're not kidding man. Difference making man, that's awesome.
Speaker 4 (02:14:46):
It's awesome. Yeap over there at NRG Stadium. Good stuff.
Appreciate the call from Brian. Oklahoma State players Sean are
going to start wearing QR codes on their helmets this season,
which will link to a donations page for their NIO collective.
Talk about begging.
Speaker 3 (02:15:04):
Now, so wait a minute, how do you you are
a code from a distance like that?
Speaker 1 (02:15:11):
Yeah, it's gonna they say the TV was they're going
to zoom in. It's gonna be camera angles. They're going
to zoom in.
Speaker 3 (02:15:17):
How can they? Could they? But the television if you're
doing a national TV game, why would ESPN care about
your your Are they where we going to start bitch
and say, well, they're showing more on that quarterback. He's
getting more money because they're going on to his QR
code than they are the rest of the player.
Speaker 4 (02:15:32):
The teams. Yeah, the team. I understand that collective.
Speaker 3 (02:15:36):
I get a bit no, but it goes to but
my point is you say that players are going to
wear them, yes, so not that the players getting the money.
My point is, Okay, let's say you get the Heisman
Trophy candidate on one team and in a good quarterback
on the other, and all of a sudden we come
out of a game and they showed him seventy five times?
(02:15:56):
Are we not playing favorites for the other collective and
the ones? I'm not trying the division or if it happens,
if if, if the if the networks.
Speaker 5 (02:16:06):
So now.
Speaker 3 (02:16:07):
But my point is you'll get some people saying, well,
why they keep showing that one I can make more
money this So are they in bed with this other
team in this conference? Or you get my point? That's
I'm not saying the individual about to teach. So if
I'm sitting in the stands, can Mike cameon, dude, I'm
not that adept at understanding how the distance of technology
(02:16:28):
and QR codes?
Speaker 5 (02:16:30):
Can you?
Speaker 3 (02:16:30):
Honestly, if I if You're wearing a helmet at the
forty yard line and I'm sitting in level two, I
can QR code your helmets from that level two or
row two like level like the mezzoine and innovation. How
let's see, how do your QR code from one hundred yards?
I'd even see the QR code with a phone. I
mean you can it can. I mean, you can line
(02:16:51):
it up and take a photo that far.
Speaker 4 (02:16:53):
These days, you can zoom in pretty damn close to
things and all you can do is get like just
a bit of it and it'll bring up the link.
So that's that's what we're doing now.
Speaker 3 (02:17:02):
That's so weird to me. So that's how you're adding
to the collective. Yeah, well, it just goes to show
you that the team that's on TV More is probably
going to get more love, bigger stadiums, more people. You're
on TV more, I mean, I guess the local if
you're if you're a team that gets a bunch of
people showing up anyway all the time, that in the
because you can't do that on TV. Can you can
(02:17:24):
you QR code on TV?
Speaker 4 (02:17:25):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (02:17:25):
I mean you can, but but that's far away. Oh yeah,
but they do a close up. I can go up
to my TV and say, oh, they got a close
up on the high QR code the TV while they're
in a stadium in Columbus, Ohio, while I'm sitting in Texas.
Yeah it'll work. Yeah. Yeah. And you think we're going
people think we're going back to the old college way.
Speaker 4 (02:17:45):
It's never going to happen.
Speaker 3 (02:17:46):
They've got a taste of the ten carrot diamond ring. Brother,
they ain't going back. It's never going to happen. Can
you imagine being a head coach right now? No, I
wouldn't want to do it in college football. No, I
would not want to do it. Oh you, I mean
just you're you're training them for them to leave, and
if you don't, they don't care. I mean, it's it's
it's so weird to me. It's actually become worse than
the NFL not doing it. When it comes to it.
(02:18:08):
I love college I'm talking about we'll go get the
money while I get all that. But even in the NFL,
you're limited to how much money you can get. You
ain't putting a QR code on their helmet yet toward
the guy, Oh QR code me, it's like a Venmo
if a QR code. Every time you QR code, I
get money putting my Venmo account. I mean, where are
we headed? What's next? It's it's nuts to me.
Speaker 2 (02:18:30):
Man.
Speaker 3 (02:18:32):
So Oklahoma State's doing it well. If Okloma State's doing
how many others are going to do it? If they're
making money and they're collective. Why I wouldn't I was.
Speaker 4 (02:18:39):
Going to say, so, Apparently they're the first ones that
are doing it, so I would not be surprised if
others are going to do Oh, there there will be others.
Speaker 3 (02:18:44):
Yeah, yeah, so it's just a weird concept by me.
But hey, once again, follow what all the money is
always going to be the number one thing for everyone.
It appears that may not be fair of me to say,
but the perception is money's driving all of it.
Speaker 4 (02:19:02):
It's funny because they put the QR codes on the
helmets and then Mike Gunny comes out and tells his
players to tell their agents to stop calling us and
asking for more money. Right, it's true, I know, but
you just put a QR code on your helmet and
you're bitching about your players agents.
Speaker 3 (02:19:19):
So you know how sometimes when you sign a contract
in the when you sign a contract in the NFL,
usually you're beholden to it. You sign a four year
deal in year one, you're not going to come back
eight games in and say, hey, I'd like another one
h a one hundred million added to my contract. Well,
you just signed, go back home, get yourself ready to play.
Quit talking to me about your contract. You've got a contract.
We'll deal with it in three years when you're in
(02:19:40):
the next to the last year of your contract. Right now,
don't But there is none of that. In college. You
signed a scholarship, you signed it, letter of intent, you
put your name on it. Then you signed it committed
to come to school here. But really it's not a commitment. Yeah,
And if you don't like what's going on. Three games
in and you're a Heisman Trophy candidate and it's Wednesday
(02:20:00):
of Michigan Ohio State week, I'd like I need se
plays Michigan like late September. Uh huh, it's first two games.
Let's say they're going off. I want more money. Or
Oklahoma State's quarterback becomes a star in three games, my
agent's calling you and want more money. Don't tell you
agents call me. We were worried about football season. Now, well, no,
(02:20:21):
you're calling you. The point is, is it, where's the
contract that they're beholden to? You sign this. Here's what
you're getting in twenty nine, in twenty twenty four, But
in unlike that, where you could go in there and
you could say I'm just that I'm transferring, right, and
you could be able to want to play somewhere else
right away, and the transfer window whatever that is. Dude,
I can't even follow all the rule changes and what.
(02:20:42):
I don't even know what's legal and what isn't anymore.
I don't know. Yeah, these guys will, these guys will
they will suspend and or should I say, punish a
player or suspend or what's the word. They could give
them scholarship losses for breaking rules. By if the guy
used to come on campus and say, hey, man, coach
(02:21:04):
invited you over and and gave you one hundred dollars
because you needed a beer money. You can't do that,
But the guy's standing next to you can correct in truth,
what's the difference. What if the coach handed the guy
the hundreds said give it to him, came from you.
You don't think that happens, Yeah, I do, of course
it does. Yeah, So really, where is the rules? Where's
the floodgates? They're already open, right, they're wide open. Yeah,
(02:21:26):
I don't know how you close them. I don't either,
that damn is Yeah, it's wide open.
Speaker 9 (02:21:29):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (02:21:30):
All right, let's welcome in Astros general manager Dana Brown
to the show. Next right here, on Sports Talk seven
ninety live there for the Sewn Salisbury Show continued to
welcome in Astros General manager Dana Brown to the show.
Speaker 3 (02:21:44):
Yeah, weekly visit nine to thirty every single Wednesday. Got
a team in first place, trying to get them all healthy.
Dana Brown, the Astros GM joins us. Now, Dana, welcome in.
My man tough one last night. We'll get to that shortly,
but let's talk about Verlander back. Expectations of him today,
whether it's pitch count. I know Joe will make the decision,
but I know you guys have talked about it. What
(02:22:05):
are your expectations seeing from him? And for how long today?
Speaker 5 (02:22:10):
Yeah, it'd be outstanding. If you can go five innings today,
maybe you know, sixty seventy pitches, that would be That
would be beautiful. So it's good to see him back.
You know, last we have started, he's probably like ninety
three to ninety six, you know, outstanding curveball, so you
know he's he's been thrown well, and it's just it's
(02:22:32):
just wonderful to have him back, to be honest.
Speaker 3 (02:22:34):
Yeah, sure is just an example and table setter for sure.
Dana not counting last night's game we're discussing on the
show last week about early in the season when this
you know, as you constantly tell us, and we needed
to buy in the long season. But when they started
losing one run games, weren't getting that key hit in
late inning games, weren't run pushing the runner over and
(02:22:55):
moving him, small balling and then getting the home run.
But it feels like during this big the way you
guys have played since, you know, June July, late June
July and now August, is that these one run games
or these clutch moments look like the Astros of old,
that they're finding ways to win them, even when it
hadn't been a pretty game like all the Airs the
other night, still finding a way to pull through and win.
(02:23:17):
This looks like Astros baseball winning ugly, which a lot
of times happens on most teams in baseball. Correct.
Speaker 5 (02:23:25):
Yeah, I mean the course of one hundred and sixty two,
you guys hear me talk about that all the time.
I mean, you're gonna win games like that. I mean,
and it's a beautiful thing when you can win a
game where you make four errors. I mean that means
that the guys had their grit and grind to get
through it. So you know you know you're gonna make mistakes.
It's piece ball. You're gonna have some games where you
(02:23:48):
make a few errors. But when you can come out
on top, whether it's a bunch of errors or a
bunch of walks, and you can still come out on top,
you know a win is a win. You'll take the
win no matter what. And then you hit reset and
try to figure out, Hey, what do we got to
do to play better baseball? And so we know that
we don't play like that often. So when you play
like that and still can get a win, you know
(02:24:09):
you'll take it.
Speaker 3 (02:24:10):
But the average character team or the average non grinding
team loses those games, and the Astros didn't. And I
think that's an important part of what you've said about
your team because I asked you three months ago, do
you not only trust this team, but are they mentally tough?
And you said, yeah, I believe they are. We're going
to find out and we found out so far. So Dana,
with that, I know what you'd want. Okay, we all
(02:24:32):
want big blowout wins so we can relax. But where
do you learn more about your team when you go
through and everything's going good and you win eight to one,
or a game like the other night when you make
four airs and still find a way to grind it out.
What would you what in your heart feels better at
the end of the day.
Speaker 5 (02:24:50):
Well, in my heart, it feels better to blow teams
out right.
Speaker 3 (02:24:53):
No, I know that that's the fantasy world all the time.
But but what do you learn more about learn?
Speaker 5 (02:24:59):
Yeah, you learn a ton in these close ball games
because you learn. Look, oftentimes in a close ball game,
you may have to do something small like get a
runner over, or you may have to have that good
ten pitch at bat, you know, to drive that running,
you know, so you learn a lot about the club
(02:25:20):
in these tough moments, you know. You know, we always
talk about the valley experiences where you learn a lot
in the valley, you know, and so ultimately you do
learn a lot and these these tough close games, and
it tells you what your team is made of, you know,
when you can have these pitchers come out and make
certain pitches to get through innings and you know, you
(02:25:42):
just grind through it, and so you know, it's it's
it's nice to win those games. You learn a lot
about your club in close ball games, for sure. But
as I always say, it's a.
Speaker 3 (02:25:54):
Little bit ell yeah, hell yeah, the heart. The heart
takes a little simpler and uh and it makes it
a lot easier and the relaxation kicks in a little easier,
if it ever does during a baseball season. All right,
are we with Alex Bregman? Will we see him today?
And if not? Is this uh ailment or whatever we're
(02:26:16):
calling it, setback? Is this more concerning than just sleeping
on it wrong?
Speaker 11 (02:26:23):
No?
Speaker 5 (02:26:23):
So the deal is, you know, he's gonna he's going
d H today. I mean, that's the plan. Okay, So
you know, hopefully when he takes batting practice it feels good,
you know. So ultimately he's going to d H today
and we're going to see, you know, get him, get
him some at bats. So we're looking forward to seeing
how those at bats go. We'll know a whole lot
(02:26:44):
more after today's game, you know. But I think he
feels great. He's biting at the bit, you know, I
talked to him a little bit yesterday. Uh, he's he's
been through this before. He's going to grind it out,
of course, because he's that type of a player. But
I can't wait to see him back in that lineup today,
you know. And I missed him at third base already,
(02:27:04):
of course, so you know, he makes third base look easy.
Speaker 3 (02:27:08):
Yeah, he sure does Dana with that since he's not
going to play the field and d H is the plan.
Is there a feeling that the torque on it, you
know that that you're more concerned about it obviously in
the field, in the plate, or was the plan just
to DH him to get him back into the swing
of things. Could he play that? Could he play third
base if you needed him to today?
Speaker 5 (02:27:27):
Yes, I think he could play third base if we
needed him, But the plan was for him the d
H all along and we could like sort of sort
of gradually get him back in there. But I think
from talking to him yesterday, he feels fine, and you know,
but the plan was that this was this was the
first game of the playoffs, Steve would be playing today
(02:27:48):
at third base. So but I think he could play
third today, but the plan was to ease him back in,
and you know, so he said he felt a lot
better yesterday, and so we're looking forward to seeing what
he looks like today and we'll know more by the
end of the game.
Speaker 3 (02:28:02):
Let's just say for talking sake, he had a DH
for ten games. Who's your third baseman regularly?
Speaker 5 (02:28:08):
Yeah, I mean, so I think it would be some
combination of Dubon and Wickham. You know, Wickham is off
to a pretty decent start right now. He's playing well
for a young kid coming up filling in for Bregman,
and so you know, it would be some combination of
Dubon and Withckham and then balancing it out to not
(02:28:30):
to not put too much pressure on the young kid.
Speaker 3 (02:28:33):
Astro's GM. Dana Brown joins us for his weekly visit
for a few more minutes here on Sports Talk seven
ninety nine thirty every Wednesday, and you can hear it
on Sports seven ninety dot com when the show's over.
It's always a great listen from from Dana. All right,
Dana with waiver wire, are you scouring it still or
is what's going to win this thing in the building?
Speaker 5 (02:28:55):
Yeah, I mean we were. We're always in the business
of trying to, you know, make our team better. You know,
we got you know, Matt, Matt Hogan, he watches that
waiver wire like a hawk. And you know, if there's
any time we could acquire a guy, you know, we're
going to try to do it. You know, you look
at our roster right now. You can look at some
of the players that we've had, you know, where we
(02:29:16):
acquired you know, on the waiver wire, you know, and
so ultimately, you know, you've got guys like or you know,
we acquired that way. And so sometimes you know, you
have to be you have to be on that wire,
you know, because you never know what's going to become
become available. And as I mentioned before, we do a
(02:29:37):
pretty good job with pitching, and so if we see
a guy on the waiver wire that like, oh yeah,
we can make an adjustment with this guy, we're going
to be aggressive. So we're always paying attention.
Speaker 3 (02:29:48):
Is there a dfa guy out there, a picture that's
available that you might consider. That's my that's my way
of asking it without saying his name. Anybody, anybody out
there that that you're interested in, including a guy who's
been here before that that you would be interested in.
Speaker 5 (02:30:06):
Well, ultimately, when when when guys are d faight or
we we have these conversations. So I'm sure that anybody
that we have interest in, uh, and particularly if it
was a guy that was here before, and we have
we have good information on his makeup. You know, we
we we go through it. I mean we look at uh,
(02:30:28):
you know, every signal name that come across, particularly if
it was a guy that was here before he had
success here, you know, we would we would take a
look and and and and see what you know, is
there or fit and so so we're looking at everyone.
So the rest assure we're looking at everyone.
Speaker 3 (02:30:44):
Yeah, And Dana Brown asked us Jim joins us a
couple more minutes here on his weekly Wednesday visit. Dana,
you concerned about any of these guys with the length
they're going. You know, Blanco had his struggles, which you
know at times that happens. He's been so good this year.
Any concern about him or Spencer or even a Hunter
Brown which that hasn't shown any signs of this, but
(02:31:05):
that there's a wall that they're hitting because of the
innings and the and the length which they're not used
to in the major league level so far.
Speaker 5 (02:31:12):
The one thing I would say about all these guys
is they have pretty good physicality. Right. If these guys
were smaller men, then I would worry a little bit
more because you're putting such a workload on them. But
if you look at Blanco, he's been he's been pitching
for a long time. I think Blanco is gonna be fine.
He's just so physical, big man. You know, you're gonna
(02:31:35):
have ups and downs in the course of a season.
You know, you could be an eighth and have a
bad outing and so, uh, you know Blanco, you know,
I think he's gonna be fine. He just was one
of yesterday, was in his day. You know, he gave
up three in the first and you know, brinded through it.
But I think he's gonna be fine. He was up
to ninety five still, so he'll be okay. Arragetty, He's
(02:31:58):
gonna be okay. I think he's got a nice combination
of physicality and looseness in his actions.
Speaker 3 (02:32:03):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (02:32:04):
And so I think he's gonna he's gonna be He's
gonna be fine as well. I think going to the
six man rotation over these next stretch of games, because
we have so many back to back uh total of
eighteen in a row by the way, So I think
he's going to be fine. Uh, you know, because we're
putting in that six man and JV and so we're
(02:32:25):
going to get these guys that extra day. It works miracles.
You know when you're out in the grind and you
get into August and you know, uh, that extra day
works miracles. So since the fact that we're going to
a six man in August, the dog days of August
and we're playing well, you know, this is a good
face to be in. And you know, I couldn't have
(02:32:48):
planned it any better. So we're we're excited about where
we are right now.
Speaker 3 (02:32:51):
No doubt we'll end with this. And I know this
is something you don't want to face, but it has
to be asked. But I mean, I know he's making
progress with Kyle Tucker. But we've discussed how good you are,
how much better you're going to be when Kyle Tucker
comes back. You don't replace a five tool guy and
just not be better. But the record says you guys
can win regardless. Are you a World Series team if
Kyle Tucker is not your right fielder, if he did,
(02:33:13):
if he if he couldn't play this year, can you
win a World Series on the current roster without him?
Speaker 5 (02:33:19):
Yeah? The ultimate goal is is to get to the
World Series. I mean and I think this club is
built and we're good enough to do it, you know.
You know, I remember back in Atlanta, you know, we won,
and we won the World Series in twenty twenty one
without a Kunya, right right, So you can still win
the World Series with rough star player. It's just that
(02:33:40):
other players are going to have to step up without
a doubt and so, but we don't want to think
like that. We know that we're going to get Tucker
back at some point. I spoke to Tucker at length yesterday.
He's feeling a lot better. He's actually running on the
field right now, and you know, so I think getting
him back in shape and getting rid of some of
(02:34:02):
the soreness, it's going to be where we need to
get to in order to get him back on that field.
So I think when he comes back, it's going to
be a nice little boost for the club. And I
think at that point it'd be so sweet to go
on a nice run. And so we can't wait for
(02:34:22):
him to come back. We can't wait for him to
be the boost that we need, and so we're really
looking forward to it. But you know, we're still playing
well without him, but we're going.
Speaker 3 (02:34:32):
To need him down the stretch and real quick, Dan,
I'll let you go. Is because just the time frame,
it's not given anything away. We're August twenty first, he
hasn't gone to a minor league assignment. Are we looking
sometime maybe for him to be back on a major
league roster playing post Labor Day?
Speaker 5 (02:34:50):
Yeah, I'm hoping at some point the first week of September,
so it could be post Labor Day. But I really
feel like he can get back this first week of September.
I think he's a lot closer, you know. Then we think,
as I mentioned before, this is a type of injury
that once you start to feel good, it's just a
(02:35:13):
matter of getting your legs and your win back. And
I think he's going to be closer than we think.
And so he's starting to feel a lot better in
the fact that he's running on the field, he's hitting
balls in the upper deck by the way, and patting practice.
So I mean that's another good sign.
Speaker 3 (02:35:29):
Not bad on one and a half legs, that's a
good thing. There you go, We'll take it.
Speaker 5 (02:35:33):
Not bad at all, So we'll definitely take it. And
the goal if he can get back by that first
week of September and we can get on a run.
That'll be sweet. We could ride him right to the
division champions and THENTO the postseason.
Speaker 3 (02:35:47):
Dan, I've kept you too long, but this just entered
my mind and I got to ask you this. Or
is it important for you guys to go I mean
it's always important, but to go on a kick ass
roll again for the next twenty five or thirty games,
So the last ten to twelve fifteen games, you can
get as much rest for your players as you need.
Is that is that a must? I mean, like all
twelve cylinders hitting now, so at the end if al
(02:36:07):
two they needs a day offer two or Bregman where
you can get that rest for you guys. How important
is that to you?
Speaker 5 (02:36:13):
Yeah, I mean that would be important. Uh, and then
we would you know, take a little bit of pressure
off the guys and and and roll right into the postseason.
But you know, make no mistake, this team really plays
well when they're in the grind and the.
Speaker 3 (02:36:27):
Grit playing every day.
Speaker 5 (02:36:29):
So playing every day, and you know, you don't want
to get to the point where you take your foot
off the gas. So I'd like to really keep these
games competitive. I think that's important for us. But you know,
if there's if there's a chance to get the knockout punch,
I'd rather go ahead and get the knockout punch and
(02:36:49):
then we'll we'll we'll cross the other bridge when we
get there.
Speaker 3 (02:36:53):
So thanks perpose.
Speaker 5 (02:36:54):
I'm just excited about where the guys are and what
they've done this entire season.
Speaker 3 (02:36:57):
Yeah, I bet you are. It's been unbelievable they where
they were and where they are now. But you told
us what a long season, and here we are and
now it's the sprint. All right, my man, good luck today.
Appreciate you. We'll see you next Wednesday and go get
this one and win a series.
Speaker 5 (02:37:10):
Appreciate the time, absolutely appreciate you having me on.
Speaker 3 (02:37:13):
Let's go after That's great, Dana Brown, we'll come back

sure I'm back home. But it's like five thirty. So
can I make it back home?
Speaker 11 (02:38:09):
No?
Speaker 3 (02:38:09):
Probably not.
Speaker 20 (02:38:10):
Yeah you can.
Speaker 4 (02:38:11):
No, dude, You've bet one game be about three hours.
Speaker 1 (02:38:13):
You'd be home about that.
Speaker 4 (02:38:14):
Yeah, but you have to think you're going to a
day game. So when you get out of Minimate Park,
even if it's a three hour game, you're gonna hit
downtown traffic and getting out of the game traffic.
Speaker 3 (02:38:22):
Sometimes you got a sacrifice to go. See what you
want to see?
