Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury. Okay, let's do this. Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobo. This is the Sewn Salsbury show.
Crazy man, unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Got to play better and you know, obviously it doesn't
mean his career is over.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Just going to a veteran.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
He probably take a step back awful early in the
season to have to take a step back and gather
yourself with two games in. But it's looked really really
bad for them, and we don't have that problem here.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Bryce Young is a good kid man.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
I hope it works out and sometimes a different perspective
because all the pressure is the number one pick was
on him and when you do that, normally you're going
to a bad team.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
And very few guys come in the league like c. J.
Stroud and do what he did.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
So hopefully Andy Dalton will get that team playing a
little better and that Bryce Young will learn some valuable lessons.
But it doesn't shock. It's Carolina. That's this is how
they operate. They don't they don't waste any time. But
the truth is that football team's gonna play. But it
ain't just right Young.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Let's just put it that way, although he struggled.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
There's a lot of things not to like about Carolina
right now, and they look like a team that should
be playing on the Fridays or Saturdays, not on Sundays.
We'll see if they can get a fixed. But good morning,
good to be with you. And uh, it's nice. I'm
sitting here staring in the dark in college station. Dog,
That's where I'm at.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Okay, huh, you're up up in the seatstat.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
I'm up in sea stat.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
I'm sitting here, look it out, sitting in a parking
lot doing it. And see that's modern technology. You can't
tell right now. Like I'm in some you know, high
and mighty studio.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Dude, I'm a man of the people.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Pull your truck over, pop on in, get your on
sip at, you know, going, and we're just having a
conversation because I got to go get my I'm getting
my state mediator's license. Brother, I'm done this week. All
the time I put in, I'll be done, and it'll
be a licensed mediator to mediate to mediate, like when
you and Triple get into a battle, I'll be the
media and.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Says, so we don't have to litigate it.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
Oh there you go.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Just you guys, just hire me with all that money
you make. Yeah, and we'll just meet. Happened. Yeah, So somebody's.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
In a battle, you know, maybe the Texans want maybe
maybe CJ wants four hundred million, maybe wants five hundred million,
and the team says, no, let me mediate the thing, right, yeah,
three days rather three days. So that's where I'm at.
But you know what, I just grind, you know me, dude,
I don't I don't miss.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Work, No, not at all, man, no way, Yeah, I
just you know I want to do. Are you gonna
be able to mediate these nuts?
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Or yeah? Right at your forehead. Yeah, it'll be awesome
med eight ds.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
Yeah, that'll be that'll be a new one.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yeah, yeah, just to mediate these nuts. Is that what
you just said? That's so for? You went to the
mediate these nuts?
Speaker 6 (02:49):
Huh yeah, right out of the gay Dog.
Speaker 7 (02:51):
Well, baby, I don't blame you for looking me up
and down the Crouse his room.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
I hope, I hope somebody is in that same parking
lot with you and watching you do this do our
show from t.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yeah, I got the head set on him singing Ellen
Langley and Riley Green ain't nobody sitting here, dog, It's
just me.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
It's just me and my serenity, your aura.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Yeah, it's just be in my I'm kind of in
an Aaron Rodgers state off season, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Oh yeah, like a dark room, sitting.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Here, grinding and sitting here thinking about, well, what'd you say?
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Mediate these nuts? Yeah? Is that what you said?
Speaker 6 (03:30):
So you can't do that, is what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Oh yeah, I mean I could. You could kind of
determine one from the other normally.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
So if I got a mediat and make sure both
are happy, what are you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (03:39):
You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 6 (03:40):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
You know, looking at Monday Night football last night, how
about Kirk Cousins getting him a.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Win and a and a win when he had to
make all the throws. That's why they got him. Although
the numbers weren't as gotty as they continue they will be.
Philadelphia a good team, but takes them down on the
final drive, pumps it and gets them in the end
zone and made some great throws and the one thing
that's been missing from Cousin's career. Everybody talks about great leader,
(04:06):
love him as a teammate, fiery guy, puts up huge numbers,
gets guaranteed contracts before anybody else. I mean, the guy's
been making money hand over fist for a while. Non
first round pick Atlanta goes and gets them with those weapons.
The story on him is simply like it is on
Dak Or like it is on Lamar, and like it
is on Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
All really good players.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
But and we'd only make it a quarterback award or
a quarterback statistic. Can they win in January? We don't
ever say it about the right guard. We've talked about this.
We're not talking about you know, Bjeon Robinson. Can he
get him to the playoffs? We know he's the hell
of a player. It always falls right squarely on the quarterback.
So if you don't get and win in January, it's
Dak's fault because we I mean, everything's hyping. You throw
(04:51):
an interception and loses him a game. You throw You know,
Dak throws an interception in a game and he could
have played great, and the right guard may have missed
a block and he had to force the throw because
he had to get it out early. And so what
happens He gets it out early. Ball's intercepted. We blamed Dak.
(05:15):
Yet you go back and look at the tape and
the team knows that oh man miss that, yeah and
miss that the block, and so the right guard doesn't
carry that burden so well. Of course, the great one's
got to elevate their play guys, and elevate it in
a big way. And the quarterback bears that responsiblity when
you make all that money. But Cousins, that's the one knock,
(05:35):
that's the only thing is to win. He did it
in New Orleans, made a couple of great throws when
they want a playoff game, but to get him deeper
and to carry a team through January, even the other
guys are not playing, I'm not playing their bus foot
best football. But big win in Philadelphia for Atlanta last night,
and a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Thought Atlanta was going to win the division.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
But damn the way that the New Orleans Saints have
started off with you know what, eighty plus almost nine
years ninety points in two games.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Yeah, it's we've been pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
So it was a hell of a hell of a
win for Atlanta last night, especially coming off the sluggish
first game lost. But they've got some loaded weapons, and
you know, speaking of that this week is a it's
a sneaky game coming up this week. I know we're
going to hit the Astros guys. Sneaky game coming up
this week because of the Vikings. The Vikings are a
(06:25):
little bit different and talking about the Texans, and I
know we're going to spend a lot of time on
the Astros as well, but the Vikings are different. They're
running the ball with Aaron Jones, who's a beast from
Green Bay. I think it was a really good It's
kind of like Joe Mixon here. It was a big
upgrade at the running back position. So when he's healthy,
you know what he gives here there. They've got Aaron Jones,
(06:46):
a good player, and then you've got Sam Darnold protecting
the football playing kind of like people thought he was
going to play when he came out, and he feels
like he's playing with confidence and he's taking his game
to a different level. But it's only two weeks and
they're two and zero, so and we know that our
weapons are stupid on the you know, when you get
Jefferson fully healthy and good to go, you know how
good they can be so impressive impressive win last night
(07:09):
and then we got a big one. And for the
Texans going into this weekend, they're going to have to
shore stuff up because the way they played and special
teams that you know, with the way they kick the ball,
the way they play defense, you think, well, they should
be heavy favorites against the Vikings. But the other side
of it is you got to limit the penalties. As
we talked about, that's a captain obvious state. Yes, you
(07:32):
have to score in a red zone and you're gonna
have to get points. Just the problem is with fairbaron
you don't need to get anywhere near the red zone
for points. The dudes automatic from beyond fifty yards, but
it'll be incoming upon them, and I think there's another
level of explosiveness to them and their vertical passing game,
which we know Stroud can execute with the best of
them in this league. He don't have to take a
(07:53):
back seat to anybody. So it's going to be very,
very important for them to do their thing this weekend,
meaning no penalties. When I say no penalties, limit them, yes, yeah,
score more touchdowns than field goals and you're gonna have
to You're gonna have to get after Donald and because
he will throw the ball to the other team. That's
been his problem in the past. So if you get
(08:15):
to him early and the Vikings got some good tackles,
so it'll be a really good matchup. I think that's
the key to watches the left and right tackles for
the Vikings against the edge rush for the Texans this
weekend and see if you can't get off to a
three and oh start.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Hell, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
In the last time they were three and zero to start,
but it's been a minute, so it'll be nice to
see this matchup. But at the beginning of the season,
when you saw the Vikings changes, I think a lot
of people probably thought, well, they're capable, but that looks
like a win on the schedule. But the Vikings are
playing pretty good football and they too are flying around
on defense, and that's it'll be which offense, doesn't you
(08:50):
know make the mistake this week because I think both
defenses can show up. But if you give me the advantage,
more bandwidth on the Texans offense than there is on
the Minnesota but it's a little bit different. They Sam Darnald,
you kind of wanted to wait and see how he
played the first two games, and it feels like this
fits him and he's getting a little confidence. So we'll
see if this is who Sam Donald is or his
(09:12):
past is who he is. I think we have a
pretty good idea who the Texans are, and I think
they're flying around and running through people on defense about
as good as anybody in the league is. Right now, Okay,
let's step aside. Real quick take, quick break, Come on back.
Got a lot of Astros discuss Spencer Araghedtty's start last night.
Astros get beat against the Padres and what a beautiful
(09:32):
ballpark that is, but didn't have enough offense. And when
you got fifty almost sixty pitches through two innings, it
becomes a grind. But he hung in there, did arraghetty,
but not enough offense to get through this. When Padres win,
we'll come back and discuss that. It is Sports Talk
seven ninety Sean Bryan TRIPLEI. You're here on a Tuesday.
It's great to have you along. We've got a lot
(09:53):
to discuss. It's Sports Talk seven ninety Sean Salisbury Show.

Young being benched former number one overall pick.
Speaker 6 (11:44):

Speaker 1 (11:47):
What's up? Bryant's that? Bryant is Saday Western Wednesday?
Speaker 5 (11:54):
Uh No, today is Tehano. Hold on, let me let
me do that again. Today is Tejano Tuesday?
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah, Tuesday, Yeah, I knew it was tonod Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I just was just check and see if you were
you were all, if all your faculties are ready to go.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Man, you're ready.
Speaker 6 (12:09):
I'm good now, dog you're good.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Oh yeah, you're good. Yeah, making sure you're ready to roll.
Speaker 6 (12:14):
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
I mean, today's tejanod Tuesday, and it's one of the
m v P days.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
It is, it is the m v P day.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Yeah, make make make no mistake.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
Okay, I wonderful I still have that.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
Uh yeah yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Well your hometown Padres took down the Astros last night.
Speaker 6 (12:34):
Three to one. You go, Padres, d you darbish pitched
really well.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Well it appeared last night. He wasn't my darbish. Was
he your darbish?
Speaker 6 (12:41):
He was you darbish?
Speaker 1 (12:42):
You darbish?
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Okay, Yeah, but his best start, well, he's been out
about three months. He just making his way back, I
think is what his second starter A certain starts since
he's been.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Back, Is that what it's been.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Yeah, he's but you know when he's on, dude, he's
got a lot of pitches. He's he's a cy young
potential guy. It feels like every year. So yeah, they
couldn't manufacture enough runs last night. And I'm sitting here
watching I'm thinking, Okay, we're pushing sixty pitches in a
second inning.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
By Arraghetti. I mean he was.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
It was laboring early on, and but he did he
did something last night that nobody's done in a long time.
Strikeout a Rise. He got him last night after one
hundred and forty or so plate appearances.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Struck him.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Struck him out on a little bit of a looked
like a hook to the back of I don't know
what the exact pitch was, but offspeed stuff that a
Rise swung over and got him. But that guy does
not strike out, so still stuff to build on. You know,
they had one four straight. I'll ask it. I asked
it two weeks ago. I'll ask it again. Who's winning
the next championship in this city? Astros are Texans. Who's
(13:46):
who's better. I know it's early in the Texans season,
but if you had to bet now, have you changed
your thoughts of for two games in Astros are four
to hal I mean four in front of first place
they were in the teens.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Go it's the sprint mode now to.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Get in, stay healthy, get right for the postseason. Tucker's
back in the lineup. I mean all these things. Verlander
was a little bit better, Cakuchi was off the charts.
Renel Blanco another solid performance and start, so you start
to see what's going on. So I asked two two
and a half weeks ago, who's winning? Maybe it was
(14:21):
three weeks ago, who would you bet on? So ten
thousand sitting in one hand. You sliding it to the
Astros World Series? Are you sliding it to the Texans
Super Bowl in twenty twenty four?
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Either one? Who's your bunny on?
Speaker 6 (14:36):
Man?
Speaker 5 (14:39):
That's tough because I feel like the Texans are only
going to get better this season.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
And they've already.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
I mean they're two and oh obviously two you know,
two early wins in the season where like we talked
about it yesterday, still in essentially training camp mode, and
two teams.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
They should have been yeah, you know even and one
on the road. One of them.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Two teams they the favored regardless, So we expect them
to win. But you got to you gotta sample size
of what this team's about. We'll know a little bit
more in two weeks. That kind is, after about four
to five games, you start to see their identity. I
think we got a pretty good idea what their identity is.
Going to want to be run it and mix it
in the quarterback and play aggressive fly around discipline, but uh,
(15:22):
what is it controlled chaos? I mean, you don't want
to hurt yourself with penalties, but you want to fly
around and hit anything that's moving and we've seen that.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
So but you have to make the bet today.
Speaker 8 (15:31):
Damn it?
Speaker 1 (15:32):
What is it? What is it? You don't you don't
you have to you don't look into your your you know.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Crystal ball and say, okay, can I parlay the Texans out?
Speaker 1 (15:40):
What's the AFC look like? What's the American League look like?
Speaker 4 (15:43):
And getting to a real series I'll even say, not
winning it, getting to it. Which one of these franchises
is positioned better in twenty twenty four to get to
that the big Game.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
So the way, the way that I like just to
get to the World Series or the Super Bowl. The
way I look at it is the parallels between the
Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Astros over the last six, seven,
eight years is crazy. Right, The AFC runs through Kansas
City and the AL runs through Houston. The Texans would
(16:18):
have to knock off essentially the Astros, right, they have
to knock off Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. And
so for that alone, I think I would still put
my money on the Astros and get back to a
World Series before the Texans get to a Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
That's ry lean right now. Listen, I think that over
the next decade. If you say, Okay, who's got a
better chance to win more over the next decade, I'd
have to lean on the Texans now over the next
five to ten years, but not that the Astros can't.
But I also, for me, I'm with you on that.
I still think they're more a little more primed, meaning
(16:58):
the Astros right now, because of their experience and what
they bring to the table, I would say them, and
because looking at the American League right now, I think
it's winnable.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Baltimore and the Yankees are both within sight.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
I love what the Astros getting healthy, even though it's
kind of been ugly and up and down. The battle
Test part of this year impresses me with them and
a lot of times when you're thinking, man, no way.
But as long as they're healthy, getting Tucker back, and
they make the right decisions to roll out the starting
pitching in the postseason. As much as I'm excited about
(17:33):
the Texans and I think they could get there, don't
misunderstand me. I told you yesterday, after looking at the
AFC and the way things are going, Baltimore and Cincinnati
both own too. They go into a game right now,
I don't know Baltimore is not a better team than
the Texans. Forget the record, I'm just talking about talent wise.
We match them player for player everywhere. Same thing with
(17:54):
the Cincinnati. Matter of fact, there's more talent right now
on the roster in Houston than there is in Cincinnati,
and a lot of us got Cincinnati is a super
Bowl team yet they've started out own two. But we
expect this from them. Kansas City's who Kansas City is,
so it's harder. I think over the last weeks it's
gotten tougher to pick because I think the Texans are real.
Told you yesterday, will not shock me if they're in
(18:14):
the AFC title game against playing against the team like
the Chiefs. Honest to god, I fully believe that that's not
Homer because I'm a Raider fan, But just looking at
it fairly, this team, listen, they had too many penalties
and kicked too many field goals even though they matter,
kicked too many field goals for them for us to say,
oh my gosh, but I think we know. I think
Larry and Stafford said it yesterday. Eventually, mix They're all
(18:37):
going to come around. There's too much talent for it
to just be not explode. They've won two games without
exploding on offense, meaning where four guys are involved in
kicking ass at the same time. Now Game one with
Mixing and Nico, Collins and Digs getting two touchdowns, but
there with Tank Dell hadn't even got off gone off yet.
And they're all going to go off in certain situation
(18:59):
and plenty of times times this year. And it's the
defense that's like whoa different now different? As long as
they don't give up the big play and they play smart.
So I would choose the Astros in a in a
photo finish right now. The question for I is, okay,
is it is the AFC tougher than the American League?
Speaker 1 (19:20):
And as I look to it, dude, I I think so.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
I think I do, even though now you tell me
you thinks this is really who's Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
And Baltimore or are oh and two teams? I don't.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
I think that you know you are what your record
says you are. But if you're if you're counting Baltimore
and Cincinnati out right now, you're making a mistake. And
if we believe that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the best
team in the division, then you're making a mistake because
that that that's going to get real when offensively they're
not very good.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
So I just to me Astro still slightly.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
But but I think the American League, the AFC and
the American League are similar. You're you've got two stud
teams zero and two in Baltimore Cincinnati in the American League.
For a while there, you think, oh, Baltimore is gonna
win a hundred gas. They're not gonna stiff one hundred games.
Now they're not getting to one hundred wins and neither
is nobody. Hell people are trying to get to early
nineties and the Astros have come all the way back
(20:12):
and put themselves in that category. So I'm I'm gonna
say Astros because the experience, and it's at the end
of the season and we know what they've done this year.
But I'll dan well, Tay, if you're buying a futures bet,
put it right on Kirby Drive. Not that the Astros
will go away, but because that young pitching. But I'm
just telling you, man, Kirby drive, as long as they
keep these players in tax stay healthy, that they're going
(20:34):
to be here for a minute. And the quarterback and
the head coach.
Speaker 6 (20:37):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
I think that's another discussion we need to have, is
the manager for the Astros and the head coach of
Demiko Ryans. In regards to this topic right now, I
think it's who do you trust more, Joe Spotter or
Demiko Rans.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
I think we should discuss that.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
I think Joe spotted Yeah, well that's a good question.
Let's do Let's do that.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
I think it's pretty cool too, because really, one's a
rookie head coach, one's a second year coach.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
Both been in football for a long time.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Similar and I think I think that bears some talking
about because three win team going last year to where
they went and now this team going through all the
adversity they've been through, they got can you I mean,
I guarantee as a rookie manager you didn't expect to
be tested this much. I think that's a good conversation.
Let's do it.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
Yeah, let's do it next right here on Sportslock seven
to eighty.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Hey witsit vision dot com, Doctor Jeff Witzit at witst

Speaker 1 (21:26):
He's my eyecare doctor and my Lasik procedure guy.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
You can get him at seven to one three uh
six three six five nine seven nine nine seven one
three three six five nine seven ninety nine is where
you can find the very best Lasik procedure an eye
doctor guy on the planet. And we got him right
here in Houston, and we should be grateful for it
because he's your neighbor.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
You see him at the grocery store at church.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
But when you go in there as well, you know
you're comfortable and you better be an expert, and he is.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
That's what you know.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
You don't need some guy who's mister discount double check
guy who's just gonna give you, oh yeah, fifty bucks
for one eye and fifty for the other. None.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
No, they're your eyes.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Do it right, Get in there, check out the insurance, work,
your payment plan. But more importantly, if you're tired of
contacts and glasses and you just want to see better
and you're tired of that frustration, go see him.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
It's not invasive. He'll walk you through it.
Speaker 4 (22:13):

There is no better. And I'm grateful he's my doctor.
He can be yours too. It's doctor Jeff Witz at
w H I T S E T T. There is
no better. Talk to the people who've gone through him
and are his patients. They'll tell you the same thing
I do. Witsit vision dot com, wits it vision dot com.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
De Shaun Salisbury show Continued World Series or super Bowl. First,
let's get out to Jason. Talk to Jason. Good Morning Tripley.
Can you click him in for me please?
Speaker 6 (22:51):
Jason, welcome in, Good morning Dellas.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
When it comes to that question, I would have to
say I trust to Miko Ryans more than I do
a SPOTA. And I say that because a lot of
people have questions sometimes with the lineups that a SPATA
(23:17):
has to make, you know, kind of plugging and playing
where people go. And it just seems like, if you
want me to be honest, it just seems like the
Texans right now have it together. They have an identity
as to where the Astros you know, they lose against
good team. I mean they lose against bad teams, they
(23:39):
win against good teams, and then they flip flop. And
right now, you know, you're seeing them kind of have
to compete with the Mariners to see who's going to
win that division, because that's the only way you're going
to get in is win a division. So I don't know,
I just like the Texans. I like where the xs
(24:00):
are going, and and it just seems like, you know,
the Texans really got it together, and they to me,
had the tendency to make the stronger run when it
comes to championships. So I'd have to say to Miko Ryans.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
On that one, thank you, Jason, and let's talk to Steve.
Steve walkme in.
Speaker 10 (24:23):
Ry Guys, I think, But now that you're on this topic,
you know I didn't call him for.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
This topic, triple can you. Uh yeah, we got a
little back connection there on on that end, looking at
you know something that Jason said, Sewan, you know, talking
about these Astros, there are four games up in the
Al West. Uh still got you know, a couple of
series left. Obviously the next two games with the Padres
(24:53):
still got a series with the Seattle Mariners, and the
Mariners were idol last night, and then of course the
Texans are getting ready to play the Minnesota Vikings, still
got plenty of their season left.
Speaker 6 (25:05):
Who do you trust more, Demiko Ryans, Joe Spotta.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
I almost apply like the quarterback to good pitching and
how to manage that. But when you got to starting quarterback,
you don't have to see when it comes to lineups,
you really don't have to make decisions in the NFL.
I mean you do, but like rotating up front, but
in like your rotate pitches out. I know who my
quarterback is every week. I know who's starting at center.
I know who's starting it outside Russians.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I know who's starting.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
So lineup easier to navigate as a football as long
as you're healthy, Like you ain't checking a lineup card, dude,
your Stefan Diggs are starting just I mean, he knows
that it's a AH day off. So that's easier for the
head coach in football to navigate. But you know, I
would take Demiko Ryans first. He's coached every position. You know,
(25:53):
he's been a position coach, he's been a coordinator, he's
been a head coach. He's had success, and he had
instant success. You can see that they didn't get comfortable
with that. They're still the job's not done. Joe Aspota,
you know, has been a bench coach, he runs spring
training similarities. He's seen it all and finally got his chance.
And while it may have started wrong, he weathered it
(26:15):
and has done a good job, even though a lot
of us are critical, you.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Know, a worse the experience. We missed Dusty and.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Then a Spata who people wanted to have the job,
and he fit right in. And you know, it seems
like he's done a hell of a job. It hasn't
been easy. I'm not sure everybody could do it. But
I think the fact that we didn't get to see
all the fire from him that we wanted early on,
that through the nonsense, actually his personality might have.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Been smarter than the rest of ours, because.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
I know, I mean, coming out of the dog, I
want to get kicked out.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
What are we doing? We're ten games out? That fire?
He stuff that you'll see from a Boon or an
old school.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
Larry Boa, you know, Bobby Cox, and you know, but
you look at Boach. He's calm, been in a while,
so there's something to be said. Tony Dungee calm, never
got up tight, stayed the course win the Super Bowl.
So there's different ways to do. Andy Reid's pretty calm.
You know, he's innovative, so you start to look around
and say, Okay, what do you want in your manager coach?
(27:10):
And while we wanted more fire, maybe that's just not
Joe A Spotta and his level head through the good
and I've never seen him get overly excited either, so
that may be a good thing. But I'm taking Demko
Ryans and not because he's football. I just think he
feels more like it was a natural leadership thing for him.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
I think Joe's still feeling his way around.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Say this is my team, and I know it's Tamiko
Ryan's team. There's no question general manager or not ownership.
I think there's more collaboration going on when it comes
to football. I mean baseball decisions, but I respect you.
I think it's closer than people are going to give
it credit. And I think Joe spot has done a
better job than a lot of people are gonna Because
(27:52):
they're not winning one hundred games, we think it's been
a failure this season, but I don't know many that
would have been able to and maybe there's more than
we think, but to be able to weather this five
starting pitchers and your staff is still the strength of
your team.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Now.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
That also goes to good scouting and what they've done
to bring the right people in and the right trade
with Kokuchi, but Demico Ryans, but closer than you think,
Closer than you think.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
See if we can get Steve's mix. See, make sure
we can get to Steve in this connection. Steve, what's
going on?
Speaker 11 (28:23):
Hey guys, can you hear me now?
Speaker 6 (28:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (28:25):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Well, oh my goodness, tripley. We got some issues on
the phone line this morning. Uh, see if you can,
I don't know, talk to Steve, see if we can
get that figured out.
Speaker 6 (28:35):
Not sure what's going on.
Speaker 9 (28:37):
You know.
Speaker 5 (28:38):
I think with everything that the Astros have been through
this season and all the adversity and everything that's been
made out of, you know, early on in the season
with the Jose of Brave situation trying to figure out
first base, Joe Spott has done a pretty damn good job,
I mean dealing with all of the issues.
Speaker 8 (28:59):
And then.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
With Demico Ryans last year, we saw what they did.
You had CJ. Stroud, rookie of the Year on the
offensive side. You had Will Anderson on the defensive side,
Rookie of the Year, and now you're coming in with
an upgraded roster from the offseason. I mean, it's just
that they're they're loaded, right, So I don't know. I'm
(29:23):
trying to figure out where where I would who I
would trust more. When we're talking about this this topic,
it's tough for me. I really can't answer it right now.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Well, then let's just flip it.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
If if Demico goes through all the stuff that Joe's
Spottis team went through, los his quarterback, three other stars,
a starter on defense, would it be the same? No,
they would they weather it.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
Do you lose your quarterback, You lose a quarterback like C. J.
Stroud and Davis Mills is your quarterback. No disrespect to
Davis Mills. But this team ain't and getting too the
AFC Championship.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Game, okay, right, And so, like I said, I think
it's closer. I think Joe's I when they were ten
games out, I thought this coaching and the manager position
is going to be heavily evaluated, and I'm sure it
still is, but it's no longer. I'm not concerned about
Joe Spotta. Now, sometimes a lineup or win to make
(30:15):
a decision. Yeah, but we but didn't I hear the
same conversation about Dusty the lineup?
Speaker 1 (30:20):
We heard it every day? Did we heard it with Joe?
Speaker 4 (30:22):
You hear it everywhere in every city that exists for
the most part. So, and I think Joe had big
shoes to fill with a couple of them, you know,
with AJ and Dusty Baker. Although he's been a baseball guy,
he's never been in that situation. Demico answered, what it's
like to be a rookie coach, got him to the playoffs,
They won the division and won a playoff game, and bam,
(30:43):
here they are. Well, now you take a look at
Joe Aspota been through some adversity. Uh, you know, Demico
starting a rookie quarterback, starting a rookie edge rusher, three
win teams. So there are some similarities. And Joe's kept
this team and they're going to go win this division.
And now we'll see what they do in the postseason
and trust maybe and maybe we's not trust who do
(31:04):
we believe? I don't know, man, I put it this way,
if Amiko ryans, who I would slightly ahead.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
And maybe it's because of the energy or maybe I.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Don't know, maybe there's just different, but it maybe six
and one a half dozen in the other because I
don't know if you can find a manager in baseball
right now who's done a better job under the circumstances
than Joe Aspota. It's easy to win when your lineup's
health Now, it's never easy to win, far easier when
your whole lineup's healthy.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Nobody's hurt. A few nicks and.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
You know, bang ups throughout the season, but not like
they've had and then and and that's that's.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
The easy part. We just oh yeah, we got our
guys that we're rolling.
Speaker 4 (31:42):
But when you got to do this and mix and
match like they've had all year, I'm not sure a
lot could do the way Joe Spott did. And maybe
that's his composure and good and bad. He just kind
of just a just a very calm guy, it appears so,
which maybe this is what this roster needed. I'm going
to take de Miko still, and I think that has
to do with also the players around him. But I
(32:03):
love Damiko Ryans, but I feel better about Joe's spot
and now than I did when they made the higher
and that's after I mean I do. I thought, well, man,
is this just because he's in house and people like him.
I was concerned that they were too Did they take
advantage of the frendship, that they were too close to Joe.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
A spot as a buddy. Yeah, and I really was.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
And it appears that they've you know, they bought in
and caught on to the way he's doing his business.
So I think he deserves a lot of respect.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I really do.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
And this team's resilience is is through the roof now
that the Astros, the Rockets and the Texans. The Texans
and the Rockets can learn a lot and they will
about resilience. And I think they've all three in this
past year, in one way or another, have shown it.
We saw it from the Rockets last year, hanging in
there after abysmal in the middle of the season, and
then the Texans three and oh you know, I mean
(32:53):
the three win team the year before and starting off
zero and two, so they had to hang in there.
And we see the Astros issue a lot of similarities
in this town. I can tell you this a spot
of what he's done. You take a look at Udokah's
and the head coach of the Rockets and what he's done,
and Demico Ryans. I would say for three coaches that
(33:14):
are either in their first or second year here, I
would say we're in pretty damn good shape in all
three positions.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
When he comes to the.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Head coach and or manager, gimme, gimme Ryan's first over
over Joe close, Closer than you think, a lot of
respect for what a spot has done. I bought in
now because he stayed the course.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Yeah, there's there's no question about it. This is adversity
this year for these astros. This has been just insane.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Let's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
Let's let's continue to talk about the Houston Astros. They
fell to the Padres last night. Let's hear from that manager,
Joe Aspota. We'll discuss the next on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Hey, guys, did you know and Trajan Wealth is always
informing and teaching. Did you know that you're old four

negative thing. No, And for some it's a positive thing.
They retire and they go live their life. Why because

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Why You're back?
Speaker 6 (35:43):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Get back at It.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
Astros losing that game last night? You darvish for the
Padres coming back. I think it's what three months yep,
three months not pitching for the Padres. He goes six innings,
three hits, no one runs, three k's to walk Spence
Arighetti got the loss. He's now seven and thirteen on
(36:08):
the season. Five innings, eight hits, two earned runs. Just
too many pitches, Sean, I mean you look at this
line and one hundred and two pitches and five innings.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
My goodness, he was pushing sixty in the second inning,
total sixty, so it got a little bit better as
far as pitch count, but he was up there early laboring,
you know, good at bats, fighting them off, making that
pitch count elevator rise, foul off four or five balls,
so it was tough. And he's been grinding his ass
(36:39):
off and nothing but respect for seven and thirteen.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
That doesn't is not no indication.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Of how good this guy's going to be, because he's
had even in some losses, he's grinded and giving you
some hard innings and especially with all these injuries, and
I can't wait to see his future. But the president
now he's going to get a couple more starts. He's obviously,
you know, trying to stake his claim for postseason a
lot of postseason work himself. And that's another thing I
(37:08):
love about this is it's the competition inside the competition.
And don't tell me, not you, Brian, but anybody that
they're not thinking about that you don't tell me. If
you're Spencer Arraghetty or Justin Verlander or Ronel Blanco, then
when you're pitch, there's not in the back of your mind,
and it's a good thing. It's a good thing to
have competition inside the competition. Yes you're a team guy,
Yes you want to win, but if you don't create
(37:30):
other ways to do it, it's like anything else, you'll
get bored. You get bored doing the same thing every day.
Although routine's a good thing, sometimes get out of your
comfort zone to challenge yourself. And you're telling me when
Aragedtty takes him mount in the back of his mind,
there's not something says I got to pitch well. Not
to put extra pressure on yourself because I want to
be in the starting rotation of the postseason. Of course
they do. If they're not, then maybe I'm missing something
(37:53):
because I'll damn well say it. When I played, I
wanted to beat the defense, but I want to beat
the I want to play better than the other guy
across the field from me, even though he wasn't playing defense.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
And it's even on your own team.
Speaker 4 (38:02):
I think I'll bet you we sit down and I
think we've heard this, but I'll bet you with Smoltz,
Glavin and Maddox, I'll bet you they had a competition
for damn near every pitch. I'll guarantee inside that there's
a competition about okay, who more okay in this one.
Let's see who could keep get a complete game with
less than eighty pitches. Hell Maddox maybe the only guy
(38:24):
that can do that, you know, seventy pitches in.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
A one hour and twenty minute game and go nine eighties.
But you get my point.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
So these guys, there's that extra incentive to shine, and
these last handful of starts for these guys are saying, Okay,
where do we trust the bullpens. It's you know, with
Neriss solidified, but somebody in there also is gonna get
moved a little bit. I mean, what are you leaving Renel, Blanco,
Araghetty and Verlander If they're not in starting rotation, They're
not gonna They're gonna pitch somewhere, right, Brian, They're gonna
(38:52):
pitch somewhere.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
So I the inside competition it does matter and the futures, right,
but for for this young staff and these guys. But
this team is pretty friggin good, and I like the
inner competition heading down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
It keeps them on edge. And I thought, I'm okay
with that.
Speaker 5 (39:12):
Yeah, And I think when it comes to like er
Getty Rene Blanco. Those guys are going to be fighting
essentially for a playoff spot in the rotation or just
on the roster to come out.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Of a bullpens. Yeah, that's what I said. That's way
create the competition. You're you're in the back of your mind.
You're not just pitching for your team. You're pitching for
a chance to pitch in the postseason. And if you're not,
if you're not focused on on on extra competition, it's
a good thing.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
It's a good thing.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
And uh, and you know, you don't want to be
the guy that's sitting there and you didn't control all
year long. You contributed, but you didn't finish strong, and
so they didn't trust you down the stretch, and so
you're getting minimal, if any work at all, because the
truth is they are now loaded on the pitching staff,
even without five starters.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
They're they're they're pretty damn good.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
Yeah, there's it's a man, it's going to be interesting
down the stretch because you know, let's say that just
looking ahead as we get ready to get into the
seven o'clock hour, they win this division and they're gonna
have to go into a wildcard series. And then they
got to get to the division. So the pitching lineup rotation,
however you're going to construct it, is going to be
(40:20):
interesting because where does Justin Verlander fit? What about you, say, Kakuchi?
Because that Wildcard series, Sean is a three game series.
It's a completely different animal than what the astros are
used to.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
The first the first the first three are already set.
First three already said, and I don't unless they fall
off the face of the earth in the next fourteen
to thirteen games. The first three are set. They don't
include Aragedtty. They don't include Aragedtty Verlander or or Arraghetty.
That's yeah, they don't. They're not none of those three.
(40:51):
The first three is a no brainer, right just on PERFOI.
It's a no brainer right as we sit today. Easy
decision for your first three.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
Easy.
Speaker 5 (41:00):
Alright, let's let's get into the seven o'clock hour. Continue
to talk about these astros next on sport Stock seven
to eighty.

you know, I mentioned it yesterday to you and we
kind of talked about, you know, how he's got to
play better and things like that.
Speaker 5 (43:49):
Excuse me, And it all goes back to the Texans.
In that last game, Lovey Smith, Davis Mills, they beat
the Colts. Do you think if they would have gotten
the number one pick they would have taken Bryce Young
or do you think they would have gotten C. J.
Speaker 6 (44:01):
Stroud? Huh maybe muta access maybe. Okay, we'll get that
figured out.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
I'm just continuing on with with that sentimential. One of
the things that I read yesterday is Bryce Young, we
got Sean Now you there, I'm.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
Here, Okay, I was muted.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
The reason to me, I mean, hindsight, we'd all sit
there and say, well, after what we've seen, of course,
but you didn't have that luxury. The only luxury you
had is college. And if you're just looking at pure thrower,
you'd have taken you to taken Stroud. But all the
talk leading up to it, and everybody went, oh, man,
why do we make that throw? We get this, you
know we got that pick, and the second pick, we
(44:45):
know the first one. I think most people, my gut
tells me they would have taken Bryce Young coached by
Nick Saban Belichick, who is Belichick's you know, right hand
man for twenty years.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Nick.
Speaker 4 (44:58):
Yeah, I just think, and you know not that there
was a lot of questions because they did their due diligence.
They did not hesitate taking c J. Stroud, and it
was the right pick. But that's why they're in there
making all that money. I would say they would have
taken Bryce Young, Dan they wouldn't have had the same success,
and nor would Carolina have had the same success. Carolina
would be better, the roster would be better, but this
(45:21):
team wouldn't be.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
As good without c J. Stroud.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
So Stroud Stroud six ways of Sunday and twice on Sunday,
they'd have taken Bryce Young, I believe.
Speaker 5 (45:29):
First on on Sunday, Bryce Young Sean was pressured on
just four of twenty nine dropbacks. That's the lowest rate
of any starting quarterback. So it's not an offensive line thing.
And I saw who's a He was a linebacker for
Carolina for a while, got injured quite a bit. Keickley
Luke Keikley, Yeah, yeah, he He was on a podcast
(45:53):
yesterday that I watched. I don't have the audio here
in front of me. And he, I mean, he he
said it quite frankly. He said, but Bryce Young just
has not been good this year. He said, It's not
an offensive line thing. He said, just look at the numbers.
And so I started digging a little bit, and then
four out of twenty nine dropbacks he was pressured's that's
I mean, that's just that's just that's just on Bryce Young.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
Well that's a clean pocket. Now the guy's got to
separate and receivers.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
Got to win.
Speaker 4 (46:18):
But they went out and got some offensive line help
and it's and it's helped. Kickley's one hundred percent correct.
I saw the number yesterday when he was not hit
much in the game. Uh, skittish can happen? Taking a
step back is not a bad thing, because what can happen.
You can start to you start to create borrow trouble.
As a quarterback, you do and a young guy, you're like,
he's never had this problem when he was in high
(46:39):
school at modern day, when he was in college at Alabama,
he's now he's part of the reason for their success.
He was awesome, but it's always float smoothly. Last year
was the first time in his football playing career he's
been hitting the mouth on a regular basis, and not
just physically literally, but all the way around and figuratively.
And it didn't work, and they have not responded well
(47:01):
meaning him and they went out and got some help
and Sunday he just looked like a guy who doesn't belong. Now,
I'm not calling him a bust. I think it's way
too premature to do that. But he's lost his job
for a reason. Like we said, it was imminent, it
was going to happen. I thought probably one more week,
but they jumped on it earlier, and it is important.
He needs to take a step back. And Keickley's right,
(47:22):
your statistics they're alarming. If you've got twenty six clean
pockets or twenty five clean pockets on twenty nine throws.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
It should not be that difficult.
Speaker 4 (47:33):
Just making good decisions dowing it and he's always been
known as a good decision maker.
Speaker 1 (47:37):
But what happens you start to borrow trouble man. You
start to you.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
Start to create stuff that's not there. And I trust me,
I've been there. All of us have it. One game,
one half, one quarter. The mere mortals don't stay there
along like the Brady's and Montanas and Mannings. They get
out of it quickly. Other guys may hover there a
little longer. But it's a hard thing when all of
a sudden, oh one, and they saw it. Here with Carr,
(48:01):
you got hit and got hit and got hit early
on and then never recovered, and you start you start
inventing things. You drop back in the pocket, nobody's around
and the ball comes out.
Speaker 1 (48:10):
You're like, dude, dude, stay there, or you.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
Drop back in the pocket and you run into trouble
because what you're just used to it, you run into trubles, Like, dude,
just sit there and relax, take a little side step
and regroup yourself and throw the football. And he was
so good at it in college because he's not a
big body, not a pure passer like Stride, so stroud,
so he had to go out and do things on
the edge. And now, listen, you're not winning a super
(48:34):
Bowl in this league if you can't deliver the ball
on time with accuracy from the pocket, and throw people
open all the extra extending plays. All right, Josh Allen
won a Super Bowl, No as as Lamar Jackson won
a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (48:49):
Dak Prescott, I mean you.
Speaker 4 (48:51):
Start to look around, and I'm not saying that's the
only reason you thought you got to be. We're in
his time now you better do both. You got to
buy time with your legs. But it starts that hula
hoop in the pocket. You got to put your foot
in the ground.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
You got it.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
Why do you think that Baltimore said, well, he's going
to be spend more time in the pocket. Why do
you think that Caleb Williams said, I want to throw
from here. Every coach today, you got to be able
to deliver it on time because it can't live off schedule.
Even the Mahomess of the world. I don't care what
people say. He makes spectacular plays off schedule, but he
makes more of them on schedule, throwing the screen, hitting
the slant, just getting it out. Bryce Young has got
(49:25):
a lot to learn. I couldn't root harder. He seems
like a good kid, and I don't think there's many
excuses coming out of his mouth.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
But he's not ready for this. He is not ready
for it. And c J. Stroud has just built different.
You can't.
Speaker 4 (49:37):
He can't be the measuring stick when you draft somebody
because this guy doesn't happen very often. I mean, I
know we get good players every year, but I'm talking
about this good. Compare him to another rookie. Compare him
to Baker Mayfield starting out, and Mayfield played good as
rookie year. Compare him to you know, somebody else who
had a start that's not CJ.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
Stroud that struggles.
Speaker 4 (49:55):
Some manning through twenty eight interceptions his rookie year.
Speaker 1 (49:59):
Those guys.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
You can't compare him to Marino and the way that
Stroud's played, they're just different. Even Mahomes only played one
game his rookieyear. He's in over his head. This is
the smart move to bench him. Now, we're gonna find
out how he handles it, because at some point in time,
Andy Dalton, they're gonna they're gonna take Andy out. They're
gonna put Bryce Young back in the questions win. Unless
(50:21):
they go win five in a row, then Bryce Young
will wait a lot longer. But I'm convinced that the
guy can do that. The guy is not a bust yet,
but goodness gracious, the distance between him and Stroud is
Hugh light Year put it this way, we may not
see Bryce Young play this well six years from now,
(50:42):
which is an alarming.
Speaker 1 (50:43):
Not on nony for them, but how good CJ. Stroud
actually is.
Speaker 4 (50:47):
Plays what we'd consider an average game on Sunday for him, Yeah,
and most guys would say I can win with that
statistic every week.
Speaker 6 (50:55):
So I think.
Speaker 5 (50:55):
I think one of the interesting parts about this whole
thing is Dave Canalis on Sunday after for that game reiterated,
Bryan Shung is our guy.
Speaker 6 (51:03):
He's going to remain our starting quarterback.
Speaker 5 (51:05):
And then here we are twenty four hours later and
he says we're gonna bench him. And he was interviewed
yesterday and he said he changed his mind after watching
video Sunday night and consulting with the front office. They
concluded that veteran Andy Dalton would give the Panthers the
best chance to win in Week three, which I believe in.
But then I always go back to David Tepper and
(51:27):
his ownership with this organization, because I think he is
terrible for the Panthers as an owner. You've seen it
all last year with everything that he said, moves that
he made get rid of Christian McCaffrey. Who Brian is
it Brian Burns or the other guy that they traded
ought to get that? But just defensive, yes, the really
(51:50):
good defense point yeah yeah, and then throwing drinks on fans.
And so I wonder where he lies in this and
if he's saying.
Speaker 4 (51:59):
It, oh yea, I Sharon asked it. I guarant asked
he not only to say probably a real loud one.
Speaker 8 (52:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:04):
What did we say yesterday before this happened? Said, don't
be shocked Bryce Young gets a bench, I said, Dave
Temper is the type of guy they'll fire the coach
in two weeks and go find another quarterback and cut
Bryce Young. That's how that's how wacko he thinks he
doesn't understand that it.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Is a process.
Speaker 4 (52:18):
But I do agree with him or whoever made the
decision and canalis that to me. There's one priority as
you're building what and you owe it to the current teammates.
Speaker 1 (52:28):
Now, if a guy's struggling like everybody else.
Speaker 4 (52:30):
And we know we're gonna build it, and he's going
to go through rookie. I'm talking about some struggles, not
where it's just you. You just can't play right now.
You're just not good enough to even go out there
and take snaps under center. Like Bryce's Bryce Young, who
I have a lot of respect for, but he just
he's not ready to play. You owe it to the
other fifty cats on the team. You can't run guys
out there to give you no shot because you're a
right guard sitting in your stand saying, man, so we're
(52:52):
going into this know and we don't got a shot.
At least with Andy Dalton, I can get in out
of the huddle. He knows how to read. He's been
in the league a long time and had success. You
gotta go with the guy who gives you the best
chance to win.
Speaker 1 (53:03):
You just have to.
Speaker 4 (53:05):
Now, Sometimes people will start a rookie even though it
may not be the best chance, and then three weeks
lady say, damn, I get it. I know why he
did the rookie starting. It took him minute, but there
right now, the light is that light is not even
is faded, completely faded at the end.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
Of the tunnel.
Speaker 4 (53:19):
For Bryce, that's why he needs to step back Watch
how Andy Dalton works, he's a veteran. Watch how he prepares,
Watch how he stays in the pocket. It's a learning
experience how he handles it. But Canals it's alarming, Brian,
when you go you can feel one way when you
walk off the field, it's never as bad or as
good as you think. It just isn't as a quarterback
or a football player. Because you think, man, that was
a great game. Then you go watch down, damn my steps.
(53:40):
I should have stayed in the pocket. I miss this read.
But I can tell you one thing. Film can be alarming.
And then there's that one time when you're like, it's
worse than I thought. Yeah, and that's what happened to Canalis.
He saw it and then realize, damn, this is element.
I can't run him out there. And then go to
my team and say, we got our best chance to
win this week. We're and you know you're not going
(54:00):
to embarrass the guy out loud. But the truth is
even Bryce Young knows he does not give them the
best chance to win right now. That hopefully will change,
but right now he doesn't.
Speaker 5 (54:10):
Yeah, so I I just Andy Dalton's thirty six years old,
he's not the long term answer. So my question is, like,
when are they going to give Bryce Young another chance?
Speaker 6 (54:19):
Or will they?
Speaker 5 (54:19):
Because we you said it too, David Tepper is nuts.
Speaker 4 (54:23):
Well, what if they go five real quick, they go
five straight wins, you can't put it. You call him back.
Andy Dalton will play as long as they win. Now,
if they go there two and five and they'll say, okay,
it's time to put him back in. He's learned. They're
not just gonna run him out there. Listen, it's okay
for Bryce Young to sit. He's under a rookie contract.
He ain't going anywhere, and it's okay. And if it
(54:43):
pays dividends in year three, now they go run You
say the future. It's it's insane for anybody to say,
after you know he was hurt some last year after
a season in two games and not even a full
season yet, that we should run the guy out of
the building. That and Andy quartersbacks playing longer. Thirty six
is the new thirty. When it comes to quarter they're
playing great football in their mid thirties. Hell, who the
(55:05):
hell cares anymore? Those guys. Joe Flackle comes off the
bench like off his couch like he's sixty and what's
better than Deshaun Watson was at any point in time
last year. So I don't quit on him. But as
long as Andy Dalkon gives me the best, if he
runs off and we go four and two, you leave
him in. That division's winnable. Yeah, I know the Saints
have played well, they're gonna come back down to earth
scoring wise, but you can win the division. But you
(55:27):
can't go zero and five with a rookie quarter or
a second yr quarterback who's playing worse than a rookie
would and say, ah, we got a legitimate shot.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
You got it. You owe it to your team.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
So Andy Dalton will play as long as it's if
and they win, they lose three in a row, Bryce
Shung will be the quarterback again.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
All right.
Speaker 5 (55:42):
Let's so let's get to the stake out next right
here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
No back to Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 3 (56:00):
The Salsbury's takeouts, Salsif takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (56:06):
It's time for the stakeout Here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sean Brown a Tripoli Astros lose to the Padres Game
two of the series tonight, eight to forty. The first
pitch seven thirty on deckshow right here on seven on
your home for Astros Baseball. Falcons beat the Eagles, Bryce
Young being benched by the Panthers. That's what we're discussing here,
because obviously it always goes back to that. The number
one overall pick. Texans won their final game against the Colts,
(56:29):
which gave the Bears the number one pick. Bears then
traded that to Carolina. Carolina takes Bryce Young, and then
obviously we know what happened with the Texans and c J. Stroud.
All right, So my question to you, Sean is are
and I've got some audio to back this up, are
our NFL teams forcing rookie qbs to be thrust into
(56:54):
action too early? In the NFL? Tom Brady was on
the Steven A. Smith Show back in August and he
actually hit on this point. So let's triple Let's go
ahead and play that audio and then we'll get Shawn's
reaction to it.
Speaker 12 (57:09):
There used to be college programs, Now there are college teams.
You're no longer learning a program, you're learning a playbook
and the program is ultimately like a Michigan.
Speaker 1 (57:19):
For me, that was a pro style program. Five years.
Speaker 12 (57:22):
I got to learn how to drop back pass, to
read defenses, to read coverages, to be coached. I had
to learn from being seventh quarterback on the depth chart
to moving up to third to ultimately being a starter.
I had to learn all those things in college. That
was development. Then I went to New England and I
was developed by coach Belichick and the offensive staff there.
(57:43):
I didn't start my first year. I think it's just
a tragedy that we're forcing these rookies to play early.
But the reality is the only reason why that is
because we dumb the game down, which has allowed.
Speaker 1 (57:52):
Him to play. It used to be thought of at
a higher level.
Speaker 12 (57:55):
We used to spend hours and hours in the offseason
in training camp trying to be a little bit better
than next year. But I think what happens is discourages
the coaches from going to deep levels because they realize
the players don't have the opportunity to go to a
deep level, so they're just going to teach them where.
Speaker 5 (58:09):
They're at there. And that's Tom Brady on The Steven A.
Smith Show. So Sean, do you think these rookie quarterbacks
are being thrust it into a starting role too early?
Speaker 1 (58:19):
Tom's right, because he is exactly right.
Speaker 4 (58:23):
We're teaching college in college, and the way we're doing
you want to win games, but it's not we're not.
It's not about the quarterback positions, about how do we
maximize And we're getting a lot of college coaches that
have done it different.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
And I don't mean we need to do.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
An old school way, but old schoolway was beat you
inside the pocket and throw on time, learn coverage and
be yourself prepared to audible check and all those things.
And that's what you know a year or two experience.
But now look in college and high school. I train
guys and when they go to college have no idea
how to read coverage, They have no idea the answers
(58:59):
to the test. They want them up and throw them
away because watch eleven guys or the premier they just
snap their head over the coaches calling it up and
tell hey, now throw it here, throw it here. They're
not letting them go through the development process of making
mistakes and having success.
Speaker 1 (59:13):
And I understand they want to win, and that's the
name of the game, but we are not.
Speaker 10 (59:17):
It is.
Speaker 4 (59:18):
It's a playbook, and it's like when you study for
a test to just get out of the class. I
just got to get through this class. Once you walk
out the class, you don't care anymore. But there are
certain ones if it's in your major and you know
you want to do it for your career. When you're
a sophomore in college, you stay in that you study
with that class, and you study it and you learn it.
You don't just want out the class. You want to
(59:39):
know deep in your soul how it works because that's
what you're going to do for a living. And it's
similar here and coach he's right, man. We don't have
a lot of off season stuff, don't have a lot
of training camp, so it's surface training. We got to
get in and move on to the next one. So
that's not true proper development. But the other side of
it is many times the rookie is better. Can you
imagine if we went into the Texas and said, listen,
I'm not starting to rookie. It's like a high school
(01:00:01):
coach who will play a senior because I feel like
I owed the senior something. Yet the sophomores better than
the senior. I mean, oh, he's been here three years,
he's my third best quarterback. But I'm gonna start him. No, no, sorry,
it's it's competition, play your best player. But that's that feeling.
It's the same as a rookie. Now with you're picking
a first round quarterback, your team's not very good, and
(01:00:23):
you say, well, let's get him, let's develop him on
the fly, and some respond and some don't. We got
the guy who responded, Bryce Young has it. We'll see
how you've seen. Nix is going through it. Jayde and
Daniels played pretty well last week. Kayleb Williams is up
and down. That's called being a rookie quarterback. So Tom's
one hundred percent correct on the development. If you had
the luxury that Aaron Rodgers behind Farv, Jordan Love behind
(01:00:44):
Aaron Rodgers, Steve Young behind Montana. But most teams, the
quarterback is the rookie is your best player. The rookie's
your best quarterback. Guy's got more experience, but they just
can't do it. So imagine if we took the old
school approach or the school approach, he can't play a rookie.
They wouldn't won ten games last So I think it's
an individual thing.
Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
Bryce Young's not ready.
Speaker 10 (01:01:04):
C J.
Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
Stroud was, Bo Nicks may not be ready. Jaden Daniels
might And the key is is your starter just a
guy or is he Aaron Rodgers. If he's Aaron Rodgers,
Jordan ve doesn't get to play.
Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
So I don't have a problem. I've said.
Speaker 4 (01:01:18):
And if you're worried about a guy's confidence a quarterback
that you drafted, shouldn't have drafted him. If the guy
can't take a shot to the face figuratively meaning sixth failure,
and then after three games of failure, he has no
more confidence. He was gonna fail anyway because he doesn't
know how to withstand what goes on in this league.
And I'm not talking about the physical sid I'm not
out of the mental and emotional side. I got to
(01:01:39):
know that a guy, and sometimes I want to test it.
Can he get through the crap? And Bryce Young now
is gonna have to sift through it. He's had failures
and he's had successes in college. Now he's gonna get
bench and now we're going to see how he responds
to it. Did we tell all of our young players, hey,
you gotta deal with adversity, got to move forward. Well,
we'll see how Bryce deals with it. So I don't
have a problem playing a rookie quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
I never have. But it's not like a etched in stone.
Speaker 4 (01:02:03):
Every rookie's got a play or every starter that's a
veteran does have to play or doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
For me, it's individual. CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
Stroud was far and away the best quarterback on this roster,
and two guys are veterans that were on the same roster,
but he was the best there. Bryce Young is not
the best. That's what we drafted him because if a
veteran throws it, if any Dalton throws four interceptions, or
if if Davis Bills would have started and thrown two
interceptions in the opener, what would the fans have been doing.
He has no shot to succeed because the first mistake,
(01:02:31):
give me the rookie. That's another quandary you're in, and
you've invested a first round pick. Fans want to see
that guy. If you have anything, They're already talking about
it last week with Cousins and Pennix. Cousins quieted him
last night. I don't have problem playing a rookie. As
long as the rookies been the best player.
Speaker 11 (01:02:47):
C J.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Stroud needed to play Bryce Young, didn't. You got to compartmentalize.
They're all not the same, I promise you.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
Agan.
Speaker 5 (01:02:55):
It's crazy to think that the fate of that draft
change because of Davis Mills and Lovey Smith.
Speaker 6 (01:03:03):
My goodness, it's nuts to think about all.
Speaker 5 (01:03:05):
Right, after two weeks in the NFL, who is the
most impressive team in the AFC.
Speaker 6 (01:03:11):
We'll discuss the next yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:03:12):
I We'll also discuss curt of Pro interior exterior business
or home. If you want to done right, cert of
prol do it. Each and every sert of Pro business
is individually owned and operated and you can go to
certapro dot com for your free estimate. They are the
official painting partner of the Houston Astros. And I know
this again.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
I was a customer first.
Speaker 4 (01:03:31):
As a customer, when you know what they're about, you
can tell people how good the paint job is, how
timely they are. They're local when they come in. If
you're like, well, I'm not sure which paint do you
think looks better? You guys have had experience with this,
and you go pick out the paint or they go
pick it out for you and bam, get it done
efficient and they're out that.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Day, safety protocols, whatever it is you need.
Speaker 4 (01:03:53):
That's my type of paint company and cert of pros
that quality from top to bottom. You want presentation. If
you're selling your home and you want to paint it,
don't you want it to look good? Well, cirt of

I'm proud to be part of the family. There is
no better sirt of Pro painters sort of what they
see Curtipro dot com. It's expensive down a home, why

wouldn't you trust it with the quality painting and protected
with quality painting from sert of Pro Painting curt of Pro,
sirt Of with the sea, curt of Pro. That's painting Happy.
Speaker 5 (01:04:36):
We're the Sean Salisbury show continued playing pretty good baseball
for the Stros. He went out of a game a
couple of days ago. He's going to go to the
I L with a knee contusion, So that sucks depth
wise for the Astros.
Speaker 6 (01:04:53):
Jason Heyward getting.
Speaker 5 (01:04:55):
A lot more run with Ben Gammel going on the IL,
and of course Kyle Tucker back in the lineup.
Speaker 6 (01:05:01):
Last night he did play right field. Heyward did have
a hit, so did Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 5 (01:05:05):
But losing Big Gammel, I mean, he's he's played really
really good baseball here for the Astros, and thinking he's
hitting like two seventy since he became a member of
the Astros with an ops off all right and heard, Yeah,
he's played some good baseball. That sucks losing him, especially
this time of year where we are. I mean, you
look at what you've got. It's about I think it's no.
(01:05:29):
I think it's less than that. Man, No, it's no.
I think it's around twelve. I'm bad at math. Let's see.
Let's see here minus one sixty two, twelve games left.
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
Oh okay, yeah, there we go. So that sucks heading
into October.
Speaker 5 (01:05:43):
Just real quick on the on the Astros, San Diego
two more games against the Padres, and they're back home
for seven straight games. Yeah, four against Los Angeles Angels
and then three against Seattle, and then they will head
to Cleveland to conclude this season is absolutely crazy and
mind boggling that this season is just twelve games away
(01:06:06):
from concluding.
Speaker 6 (01:06:07):
I don't know where time goes.
Speaker 13 (01:06:08):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:06:09):
Man, it was just March, I know, man, it was
just tough spring training. So this is your first this
is your first first first season?
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Yeah, o season, damn son.
Speaker 6 (01:06:19):
Me whise doesn't it? I look up? We in what's today?
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
Today? Days?
Speaker 5 (01:06:24):
The seventeenth of September. Man, September is already. We're already,
uh halfway through September? Dogs, crazy, isn't it?
Speaker 6 (01:06:32):
Man? You look good though.
Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
I like that.
Speaker 6 (01:06:35):
I like Hayward. I was watching last night. I love
how you coat. Did you stay up and watch the
whole game?
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
I did?
Speaker 10 (01:06:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:06:40):
Well, damn, are you're not tired this morning? I dozed
off a little, okay. I get naps in you know?
Oh yeah, I taknap every day.
Speaker 8 (01:06:46):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:06:46):
I don't care what Sean says. Naps. Naps is where
it's at. Dog, I got you there? Yeah, man, So
talking about these Houston Texans.
Speaker 4 (01:06:54):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:06:54):
One of the things that Sean said yesterday is when
you look across the AFC right now, I know it.
Look it's a small sample size, but it is what
it is. When you look across the AFC, who scares
you compared to the Texans, Well, I mean Buffalo's two
and oh, Pittsburgh's two and oh, Houston tu and o,
(01:07:17):
the Los Angeles Chargers two and oh, and of course
the Kansas City Chiefs are two and oh. Mike Wilbon
and Tony Kornheiser on PTI yesterday pardon the interruption, Long
Time show on ESPN, they discussed the AFC and how
it looks two games in, and this is what Mike
Wilbon had to say, Tony, is.
Speaker 11 (01:07:37):
Houston easily to me?
Speaker 1 (01:07:38):
You know before the game last night, you.
Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
Noticed because weeks ago I said I think Houston is the.
Speaker 6 (01:07:42):
Second best team in the AFC. I would take Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
I will take Houston.
Speaker 14 (01:07:47):
Last night was confirmation over anybody in the AFC other
than Kansas City.
Speaker 6 (01:07:51):
And by the end of the year, they may be
Kansas City's max.
Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
Let me just mention this.
Speaker 6 (01:07:55):
Not only do they have the fabulous second year quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:07:59):
And they got it right.
Speaker 8 (01:08:00):
Houston did.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (01:08:02):
They got Stefan Diggs in the off season. They got
Joe Mixon.
Speaker 14 (01:08:06):
In the off season, and they got Will Anderson in
that previous draft. Okay, and this kid, Nico Collins, who's
about six three, two hundred and twenty five pounds a
bruising receiver. This is a condition that you normally talk
about bruising receiver.
Speaker 11 (01:08:24):
He is big and strong and will run past you.
Speaker 14 (01:08:26):
And run over you, sort of like DK Metcalf, but
he seems meaner.
Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
They're they're the goods.
Speaker 6 (01:08:34):
They can rush the passer.
Speaker 14 (01:08:35):
They can they can take you out in a million ways.
Speaker 6 (01:08:38):
They can run the ball. They got it all. The
answer for me is the Houston Texans.
Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
That's Mike Wilbon sewn on PTI. He was asked who
the most impressive AFC team is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
So it sounds like they've been sounds like they've been
listening to this show.
Speaker 5 (01:08:54):
I wouldna say, like, holy hell, Sean, do you know
anything about footballer or no, oh.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
My god, But but it's true. Listen records right now.
Speaker 4 (01:09:03):
But just in the NFC, and I'll tell you this,
what the Saints have done in their first two games
in the NFC has been extremely impressive. But if you
lined them up there favoring that, the Houston's a better team.
So I may talk about you could say the NFC,
because they've been the most impressive, Uh the better teams
Houston in the New Orleans although New Orleans is playing
a lot better than I think we expected, but the
(01:09:25):
way they put it up has been impressive. But they
didn't against Carolina and impressive against Dallas's defense. So I'll
give Houston their their flowers, but it's I mean, uh,
New Orleans their flowers. But in the AFC, aside from
Kansas City, they are the best team in the a
f C. There, I'm telling we said it. If they
if on a neutral site right now, there's no team
(01:09:45):
in the AFC that would be favored over the Texans
unless you did it by reputation as opposed to who
they are.
Speaker 1 (01:09:52):
Then the other than the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (01:09:54):
They and and when you're looking for elements that get
you that create great teams, we know leadership has been
said before. You better have the guy on a sideline
who makes decisions urgently and doesn't look back. Bam Ryan's
got them. Coordinators understated, don't say much, take care of
their business. Bam, productive edge rushers. You got to have
(01:10:18):
disruptors on the outside, and you got to disrupt some
on the inside.
Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Create a new line of scrimmage. Done. Got them.
Speaker 4 (01:10:25):
Linebackers who can run and are nasty and physical, got them,
and quite frankly mean as a junkyard dog or a
craphouse rat. They got those guys. In the secondary. Your
safeties want to be a ballhawks and hit everything that
moves in your Corner's got to be able to cover
two or three or four of them.
Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
Got them.
Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
Just don't give up the big place, the little board.
Discipline on the penalties on offense. What's not to like
other than the pre snap penalties and pass protections? Got
to improve? Which were they excelled last year? And in
a run game they did not. Now you got the
run game, they seem to be excelling. I know it.
What was this past week with mixing, But game plans
change every week. You got the back, you got the tackles,
(01:11:07):
you got a better interier offensive line, a little more discipline,
and you got a quarterback that right now, as we
continue to go on, plays average and he's still better
than eighty percent of the guys in the league at
the position.
Speaker 1 (01:11:19):
So Will Bond's right, I mean you can. You'll hear
it here. First.
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
All the time with us is we're not going to sugarcoat.
We're also not playing homer ball.
Speaker 1 (01:11:27):
This is just a fact.
Speaker 4 (01:11:28):
Where's the glare and the kickers as good as anybody
on the planet. Where's the glaring weakness on the team
experience experience? Well, they went three one to ten last
year and hit the ground running already this year. I
hadn't played their best football in there two and zero.
So yep, Will Bond's right. The biggest competition right now
and hopefully the rest this year to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (01:11:50):
Thrown resides in Houston, and it is with the Texans,
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:11:54):
The biggest week in the SEAWAN is the freaking penalties.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
That's what I said pre staff here. That's what that's
my problem. Yeah, because they don't turn it over a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
They protect that. They'll force you. They're going to turn
you over with their defense. It's just you can't because
at some point time you're at a fifty two yard er.
At some point time, Kymie Fairburn is going to miss
a fifty five yard field goal. At some point you think, yeah,
it is so for me, it is the controllable stuff
you can control. When you jump off sides, that is
(01:12:24):
a that is an unforced air with tonsil getting too
That is now you jump, you hold a guy that
beats you and they blitched, and you grab a guy
so your quarterback doesn't take a hit. If you don't
grab the guy, I'm kicking you in your nuts. Okay,
you grab him and prevent your quarterback from getting hit,
But I'll take those penalties. You can't have pre snap
(01:12:45):
false starts on a regular basis.
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
They got to limit those.
Speaker 4 (01:12:48):
But you know what, it's a discipline thing and I
can guarant ask to you. Demko Ryans probably address that
in his first fifteen words the fall on Monday to
the team watching tape.
Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
We have got to stop this because he knows and
this team is, this team is real.
Speaker 4 (01:13:03):
There is this is forget just Flowers, dude, this team
give him the friggin At some point you're gonna give
him the whole dog on uh what do they call
Flora Shop? Because this team is gonna they're gonna have
a different type m.
Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
VP every frigging week.
Speaker 8 (01:13:17):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:13:20):
Mike Wilban talked about U Nico Collins being a big, strong,
you know, physical receiver. You like, uh, you like Nico's
body or no? Or like, what's the deal?
Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
I think he's chiseled out.
Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
I mean he looks for me like if you're a
if you're a corner, you might want to take this
one off you get you might get bitch slapped in
the end zones. We saw the bodies. He got a
little wide receiver. Derrick Henry to him, you know what
I mean? Yeah, you come up on him, you're gonna
get thrown to the ground. And he's a finisher. What
kind of body would you say? Well, that's more your
style because when I say hot, you.
Speaker 6 (01:13:52):
Know, uh, you said he's a finisher.
Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
Oh he is a finisher, big closer. He's a finisher, right,
But for you? But for you, yeah, I mean I
know we go you know who pulls more U that
I say, who would you pull? I mean you'll jump
right at it, So I get it. I just learned
these from you about you know, the guy on the
guy on guy attraction.
Speaker 1 (01:14:15):
I have at it. Brother, nobody's judging you.
Speaker 6 (01:14:16):
Dude, you've been pulling dudes for your whole life.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
What do you mean? No, I haven't pulled them, but
I know I can't.
Speaker 8 (01:14:23):
That's difference.
Speaker 5 (01:14:24):
Oh man, all right, let's get to break. Uh, continue
to talk about these Houston Texans.
Speaker 13 (01:14:30):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:14:30):
Dimiko Ryan spoke yesterday to the media. He talked about
the defense flying around and how hard you're gonna get
hit when you play the Texans.
Speaker 6 (01:14:37):
That's next. This is the Sean Salisbury show.
Speaker 4 (01:14:46):
Dude, When when you can roll up my mean streets Esco?
What do you mean you my middle name's Tejano.
Speaker 6 (01:14:52):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (01:14:52):
Yeah, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, exactly. No, No,
you you could take the man out of Esco. You
can't take Esco out of the man.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
That's true.
Speaker 8 (01:15:03):
So it's a good point.
Speaker 6 (01:15:04):
Yeah, that is a good point.
Speaker 5 (01:15:05):
Hey, a little uh you know pop culture news, your boy,
Uh Sean meet Tripley and I both want to give
our condolences to you.
Speaker 7 (01:15:15):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:15:16):
Diddy was taken into federal custody yesterday last night. Actually, Uh,
I know you're upset. Well, Uh, we'll try to.
Speaker 1 (01:15:24):
That dog man.
Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
No, No, you know you know what Uh here now
become a the world's now become a safer place. Okay,
all right, yeah, the world's now become a safer place
with this. So yeah, you guys, make sure you give
me the thumbs up and go visit him. Tell me
how that the.
Speaker 6 (01:15:40):
Fed's got him dog.
Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
Well, dude, man, eventually when they got that yellow, when
they put that yellow windbreaker on, they're gonna get you.
They always do on criminal minds. They're getting your ass
in real life too, so uh, hey, you can run hide,
but eventually they they will, they will find you. That's
(01:16:04):
exactly right. If you build it, they'll come and they
they will they know where to find them, and they
found them.
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
Yeah, yeah, he's uh let's see he's got uh it's
human trafficking, sexual assaults.
Speaker 1 (01:16:16):
I mean, it's just sick, sick, that's sick stuff man.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
Yeah, well it's crazy. The you know, the what is it,
the law enforcement and uh, you know some things up
in New York actually got this one right.
Speaker 6 (01:16:31):
Yeah, we're actually going to go and make something happen
in New York.
Speaker 4 (01:16:33):
You know, it's it's nice that they got they got
it right, and uh, you know stuff that you the
kids and well, you know, the trafficking that's something that
that's for another show. But it's something that if if
you know, we kid about the yellow Windbreaker, but that's
that's got a change in life. Man, we gotta we
got to create safety and and they they got something.
(01:16:57):
So whatever it is, and I'm sure there's a bunch
of people that know him did it right now thinking uh, oh, well,
what's he gonna say to the three to the three
letter group f B and I what's he gonna say
to them? So we'll see what happens to this. And
everybody deserves their their chance to defend themselves. But it
doesn't look real good. And they finally got to him.
(01:17:18):
They've been in the chase mode for a minute on him.
Speaker 6 (01:17:21):
Yeah, he's been.
Speaker 5 (01:17:21):
He's been running, you know, left and right and then
and then he'll appear in public and then he'll just
disappear again.
Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
It's what is it?
Speaker 10 (01:17:28):
P is?
Speaker 4 (01:17:28):
His name's p Diddy right now, it's actually it's actually
just didty right?
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Yeah, yeah, well apparently he did.
Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Well that's did he did? He'll find out, Yeah he does. Fortunately,
it's it's it's it's awful, awful stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:17:43):
Uh real quick, I know you're getting ready to get
out of here, and then Dan Matthews is going to
join us.
Speaker 6 (01:17:47):
You got your mediation, your media what is it? The
Texas State?
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
Yeah, I got, Yeah, I'm three days away.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
By Thursday at five o'clock, i'll have my Texas State
mediation license. So I'm excited. So I'm going in here
and I'm gonna grind like a student for the next
five days.
Speaker 1 (01:18:02):
In role play, which I know turns you on.
Speaker 6 (01:18:04):
So this ought to be fun, all right, Brokley, let
me get your thoughts on.
Speaker 5 (01:18:10):
You've got Deebo, Samuel, aj Brown, Isaiah Pacheco, Christian McCaffrey,
Cooper Cup. Some of the best players in the NFL
are already hurt. I believe every one of them, except
for maybe Deebo Samuel headed to the IR.
Speaker 4 (01:18:24):
Well, guess what you're gonna find out, like the Astros
have found out this year. How good is the depth
of your team, how good was your scouting department? How
much attention has the backup been paying? And what's the
difference between your starter the chasm, that big gap between
your starter and the backup. The teams that win the
right guard gets hurt, man the right guard behind him
(01:18:45):
steps in may not be a star, but he doesn't
get you beat. The question is will the guys behind
them get him beat McCaffrey's running back. He stepped in,
done a hell of a job. The question is, cant
can somebody step in for Cup? Can somebody step in
for the other names you're mentioning? It's it's difficult because
star power matters, but depth a lot of times is
just as important. We'll see at those positions if the
(01:19:06):
backup has kept himself ready to play, and how deep
these rosters are. Hopefully it doesn't happen to this roster
and you can run them. We've had enough injuries in
Houston with the astros. Leave the leave the Texans alone.
Speaker 6 (01:19:17):
When it comes to this, I'll tell you what, man,
when it comes to these names.
Speaker 5 (01:19:21):
Deebo Samuel on one of my fantasy teams, AJ Brown
on another one.
Speaker 6 (01:19:26):
You know, it's just it's just ridiculous, heartbreaking.
Speaker 4 (01:19:28):
Yeah, that's part of the fantasy world that it becomes
a bummer. Part of the fantasy world that if you
got those guys and you're counting on them, and both
Debo and AJ Brown are so important to their teams
as well as McCaffrey, so should be a fun run,
and we got a good one to watch right here
in Houston fellas well.
Speaker 6 (01:19:43):
You know you enjoy your class today, Thank.
Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
You, thank you. I packed it. I didn't even pack
a lunch brown back like I'm in school. But that's okay.
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
It'll be a good grind and I'll see you back
at it tomorrow till Dan, thanks and good stuff flies
by and we'll be back at it tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
You guys have a good one, are you too? Set?
Speaker 5 (01:19:57):
I will Dan Matthews is going to join us for
the next two hours. Let's get into the eight o'clock goer,
Let's talk some more Texans football, tomic O Ryans and
the defense. Are we gonna see a fine and maybe
a suspension for Aziz Aushi here for that punch on
the sideline?
Speaker 6 (01:20:13):
Le's talk about it next on Sports Stock seven.
Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
Eighty a Houston at Houston and iHeart Radio station.
Speaker 8 (01:20:22):
And the Rocket.
Speaker 3 (01:20:25):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams
driven by the classic Chevy Sugar Lens Studios. Together, Let's drive.
Speaker 1 (01:20:36):
Salisbury Obysbury, Houston.
Speaker 11 (01:20:42):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 1 (01:20:43):
Sewan Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
To usc truth longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:20:57):
Must be nice man, Well, you're uplate doing the tenth
Ny show.
Speaker 8 (01:21:00):
How did that go? By the way, You know, it
really wasn't bad in terms of reaction, because I think
most people will probably at that point were just like,
all right, whatever, this game stunk because of one reason
in particular we'll get into here in these next couple
of hours. But they took it pretty easy on me,
so was able to get through it. And hopefully the
(01:21:21):
page has turned as we went past midnights and they
can kind of be able to turn things for the
better today. So then you know, we can have a
quick postgame show because nobody calls in whenever they win.
It's only after they lose that everybody sucks. Everybody is unclutch,
nobody knows what they're doing. I mean, you know how
(01:21:41):
this goes.
Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
Yeah, yeah, Well, I'm glad it took it easy on
you man. Little Astros after dark on the West Coast,
they did lose with the Padres Game two of that
series tonight, eight to forty. The first pitch, seven thirty
on deck show right here on seven on your home
for Astros Baseball. Well, Dan, we appreciate you joining us.
I know you're gonna be with us for the from
eight to ten. For the next couple of days. Sean
takes care of his stuff in college station and I
(01:22:04):
just Tripoli and I want to welcome you to Tejano Tuesday.
Speaker 6 (01:22:08):
Are you prepared? Are you ready?
Speaker 8 (01:22:09):
Like, oh, yeah, yeah, I'm always ready. I mean, trust me,
I am good with Tejano Tuesday. I am good with
you know, cold Mexican Beer Fridays. I am down for
it all.
Speaker 5 (01:22:22):
Let's go cold Mexican beer Fridays. Is that like, does
that start flowing at like ten am?
Speaker 8 (01:22:26):
Or you know, like I would probably say, you know,
you got to get your work done. You got you
gotta take care of your business. Maybe every once in
a while you get a half day in there, but
for the most part, you got to keep it till
five o'clock and.
Speaker 5 (01:22:38):
Say every now and then, every now and then you
get a half day. Yeah yeah, I mean, well, you know,
with the Matt Thomas Show, they get like half days
like twice a week, you know.
Speaker 8 (01:22:46):
So well, I mean but according to them, though, everybody
else does.
Speaker 6 (01:22:50):
Except for them right now, So not sure how that works,
you know. I did see.
Speaker 5 (01:22:55):
I did see because I know I think Matt's on
vacation if I'm not mistaken, so I know Ross was
running their show yesterday, and because it is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross Avia Reale at Sports RV, he
had a poll up, a poll question of you know,
I took this one kind of personal.
Speaker 10 (01:23:14):
It was is.
Speaker 5 (01:23:17):
Football time in Houston? A good song? And right now
I'm looking at his votes. Seventy two point two percent
say it's not a good song? Twenty seven point eight
percent say it is a good song. I did vote
good song because it's a and I'm also upset that
he didn't have an option of certified banger on there.
Speaker 6 (01:23:36):
It's just it's disrespectful to Clay Walker.
Speaker 8 (01:23:39):
Well, no, I absolutely agree, And uh, you know the
funny thing is is, of course everybody with Clay right
now is how can you mess up the world's the
words to the national anthem? I'll take it even a
step further. You know that at least once a year
they're going to call you up for the national anthem.
So like, dude, man, like you you're you're you're a
certified performer here, like I mean, and shouldn't that like
(01:24:00):
almost be like brushing your teeth at this point. I mean,
I would say if you're if you're a performer of
the singing variety, you probably need to know the words
of the national anthem.
Speaker 5 (01:24:10):
Yeah, but you know, I don't understand. Like, look the
home opener Sunday night, Sunday Night football. You have the
roof open, you had all kinds of celebrities in the house.
You had Houston rap legends performing. Parker McCollum has a
T shirt that the Texans made for him that is
being sold in the team store.
Speaker 6 (01:24:29):
He was there doing like a little meet and greet.
Speaker 5 (01:24:31):
You couldn't have had him do the national anthem, Like, yeah,
you had to have Clay Walker.
Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
He's done it.
Speaker 6 (01:24:38):
And forty seven times.
Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
You couldn't.
Speaker 6 (01:24:41):
You could have had somebody different.
Speaker 8 (01:24:42):
Come on, well, you know who's who's closely behind him
now for Hey, we've got a huge game. Let's have
so and so sing the national anthem. Shout out Cody Johnson,
Like Cody Johnson is quickly approaching Clay Travis territory.
Speaker 5 (01:24:58):
But yeah, Clay Walker is one of those Clay Walker.
Speaker 8 (01:25:04):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I don't think but you know,
you know, I think he did karaoke with us a
few times when me and Gordy were at SEC media days.
It's still I mean, I probably would go with Clay
Walker point by you.
Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:25:19):
Yeah, but no, I mean, it does seem like there
is always a just a default setting here of Oh man,
it's a massive game, all right, Clay Walker is gonna
say the national anthem. Yeah, Like when I was in Atlanta,
that was the joke about the Zach Brown Band. Oh,
what a surprise, the Zach Brown Band is singing a
national anthem at you know, the NFC Championship game or
(01:25:40):
at the a LCS game one or something like that,
Like it was it was always those guys.
Speaker 5 (01:25:45):
Yeah, I just I look, it's like it's like their
go to It's like their safety blanket, you know. It's
it's hey, we're about to host an AFC Championship game
for the first time in Texans history. Let's uh, you know,
let's yeah, let's get Clay banger. Let's just bring him out,
you know, for the for the national anthem, Like we
haven't done it a million times, you know what I mean.
Speaker 8 (01:26:07):
I just think it's kind of blatant disrespect because it's
blatant disrespect just from ignorance. Clint Black does not get
enough run area.
Speaker 6 (01:26:17):
Dude, I haven't heard his name in years.
Speaker 8 (01:26:18):
I mean, come on, let's go get him with the
black felt cowboy hat. If you really think about it,
Clay might have kind of taken his gimmick. But still,
I mean, Texans Astros, whoever out there, who has the
next hugest game, which probably will be the Astros, Let's
make Clint Black happen. Like, let's let's call him up.
Let's find him.
Speaker 1 (01:26:38):
Clint.
Speaker 8 (01:26:38):
Are you interested? I bet he would be. I think
you would almost get kind of a push like the
Astros did for Game six and twenty twenty two with
the King George Strait being there for the clinching game.
Speaker 5 (01:26:49):
Also with that Sunday night football game for the Texans,
the roof was open novel concept.
Speaker 1 (01:26:56):
Huh no.
Speaker 8 (01:26:58):
I mean that's the thing that kind of cracks me
up a little bit of you know, all right, hey
we've got a roof, or you know, why why don't
certain stadiums have roofs? Well, you know, I feel like
here we kind of take it to a standpoint of
almost like you almost wonder if the teams like Forget, like, hey,
you can push this button and that thing comes off
and then you can see up into the open sky.
(01:27:18):
And it's kind of like, oh, yeah, you're right that
we do have that feature. It's kind of like finding
out you have something in your car and you just
didn't even know that you had it. But no, I
mean the Texans obviously by necessity a little bit, but still,
I mean you would you would kind of like it.
Like I think the Astros for April games could do
it a little bit more. Even right now the weather
hasn't been terrible, there have been a couple of times
(01:27:40):
they could have said, you know what, enjoy a nice
open air ball game the night.
Speaker 5 (01:27:43):
Yeah, and you know, there's there'll be some games in
October where the Astros will have really good weather outside,
you know, here in the city of Houston, and I
just say, the Astros will have an opportunity.
Speaker 6 (01:27:54):
To open the roof, and then they just won't do it.
Speaker 8 (01:27:58):
You know, they won't do it because they know that
Major League Baseball will have either a certain blimp or
overhead shots that they want to have and they don't
want to have just you know, a roof on They're like, no, hey,
you know, we want to be able to see into
the building. I mean, if people are paying your bills,
then you know you kind of go ahead and say, hey,
we can make that happen. And that's what happens. But
(01:28:20):
during the playoff time, I'm not upset when the Astros
keep the roof closed because we know how that atmosphere
can be whenever this sound is able to stay in.
Speaker 6 (01:28:29):
Man, I don't know. I think it was twenty twenty one.
Speaker 5 (01:28:32):
I was at a World Series game when they were
playing the Braves and they had the roof up in
here in Houston, and it was unbelievable. It was just
it was incredible.
Speaker 8 (01:28:43):
Yeah, I'm trying to think. Was that it was game two, okay, Yeah,
and the Astros won that game. Funny enough, but then
you know game six the roof was open too.
Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:28:53):
And then across the street.
Speaker 6 (01:28:54):
Yeah, Jorge Celaire hit a ball that I don't think
has landed yet.
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:28:58):
You know, I I've never ever heard that from my
Braves friends, like I never have. I never see that
that highlight replayed whenever they play against each other. If
he remotely gets a decent enough hit in one of
their games, he which I guess we do it with
jord On, but it's also to at the same time,
it's just like, all right, that's cute, Like you haven't
(01:29:20):
beaten the Phillies in the first round of the postseason,
so maybe.
Speaker 5 (01:29:23):
Like don't yeah now and now the Braves, Braves might
not even make the playoffs this year.
Speaker 8 (01:29:28):
It's not looking good for him. Man, it's not looking good.
But that's too much Braves talk. I mean, trust me,
I've been told before.
Speaker 1 (01:29:33):
I can't.
Speaker 8 (01:29:34):
I can't talk about my past. It's almost like, you know,
I should I should have just oh I've legit. Had
people come at me and be like, oh, you're still
living in Atlanta. I'm like, well no, but I was
there for ten years. Don't you think I'm gonna talk
about it.
Speaker 1 (01:29:46):
Just a little bit?
Speaker 6 (01:29:48):
Who told you that?
Speaker 8 (01:29:51):
Well, well, we'll protect the innocent for now, but I'm
sure you could probably take a guess. Just just check
just check my mentions later.
Speaker 6 (01:29:57):
Okay, I have to dig into that, man. That's that's
that's tough, man.
Speaker 5 (01:30:03):
So you can't talk Braves, Okay, Well, the hard facts
are the Braves are probably not gonna make the playoffs,
so well.
Speaker 8 (01:30:10):
I mean, we're just worried about the Astros making the
postseason now, which I mean, it does seem like they're
on better footing, but four games lead, four game lead,
so they've still got that. But maybe sometime during the show,
I think there kind of does need to be a
little bit of a call out session. I tried doing
it last night, and then I said, I almost sound
(01:30:32):
like Michael Scott from the Office when he yelled out
I declared bankruptcy. Then you know, reality hits and that's
Oscar telling you. You can't just yell that out loud.
That's not how this works. But I mean, I do
think that there probably does need to be some people who,
as I mentioned to you and Sean last week in
a tweet, that might need the coach Jason Brown treatment
(01:30:56):
of being told, hey, it's not good enough, you need
to step it up, need to be better.
Speaker 5 (01:31:01):
Yeah, well we can get to that, don't you worry.
We we uh, we'll give you that platform.
Speaker 1 (01:31:06):
Dan.
Speaker 5 (01:31:06):
That's that's what the triple TRIPLEY and I are gonna
do for you. Is that is that Okay, We'll give
you that perfect Yeah. It's it's almost like Sean's, uh,
what do we have oh my gosh, with drawn a
blank the uh he there you go, thank you, the
Wrath of Shawn. Yeah, we haven't had that in a while.
We're actually supposed to start it yesterday, but uh uh
we had. I'm not sure why we didn't do it,
now that I think about it. We'll get that back.
(01:31:27):
So yeah, well we'll give you that platform. We'll we'll
talk astros for the final hour starting at nine o'clock
because Dan, there's some football stuff that we got to
discuss with the Houston Texans, uh and their defense Tamiko
Ryan spoke yesterday about them flying around and you're gonna
get hit hard when you play the Texans. So we'll
hear that audio and we will discuss it next as
(01:31:50):
we continue on right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Buckle up. The Shawn Soundsbury Show continues to be a hell.
Speaker 6 (01:33:20):
I saw you were at Saint Thomas over the weekend.
Speaker 8 (01:33:23):
That's correct, Me and Connor d McGovern. He had his
ten year, I had my twenty year. Yeah I said
that out of the side, right, Yeah, but yeah, I'm
to the point in life now where we have a
group text amongst us grads, and Monday, I was still
(01:33:45):
feeling it.
Speaker 5 (01:33:46):
So just a quick question on Saint Thomas High School.
Is that an all boys school?
Speaker 1 (01:33:52):
It is, mm hmm. One of my so it was.
Speaker 8 (01:33:56):
It was a tough sell for me when my parents
wanted me to go there. I'm not gonna like it was.
You know, my brother played for Rocky at bel Air.
I want to do that. I wasn't as good as
my brother, shocking, but I really wanted to do that.
And my parents, you know, because my brother. I'll go
ahead and give them a shout out. They're probably listening.
JJ Savarino and Paul Doyle, we're both roommates. And my
(01:34:21):
brother when he played for Wayne at Rice his freshman year,
and they would talk about how much they loved going
to Saint Thomas, and you know, it was one of
those things that he kind of passed it on to
my parents and it was a tough sell at the beginning,
but then once I got there, I was kind of like,
all right, I get it. And I know that some
people might say that sounds like a cult, but no,
(01:34:43):
trust me, Like, if you go there and you embrace
what St. Thomas can be, it's the greatest experience you
can ever have. And twenty years later, I mean we're
still catching up, like we're best friends. Like Megan, my
fiance goes like if I went to my reunion because
she went to the Woodlands, she was like, we wouldn't
be this way with each other. It'd be kind of awkward.
But like you'll all like kind of like are catching
(01:35:04):
back up, Like you've been around each other more recently
than some of you. You've seen each other for the
last twenty years.
Speaker 9 (01:35:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:35:10):
One of one of my uh fifteen you players, Keegan,
he just enrolled at Saint Thomas. It's his first year,
and he told me a practice last week that it
was an all all, all male. I didn't know that
about Saint Thomas.
Speaker 8 (01:35:23):
Yeah it is, but I mean, hey, look, you know
you can talk to females outside of class. I mean,
get your business done and then have some fun afterwards.
Speaker 5 (01:35:31):
That's what we did so you so you were studying like, uh,
the Boston tea party with a bunch of dudes.
Speaker 8 (01:35:39):
Well, and I mean, and I'll say this though, Texas
History with a bunch of dudes.
Speaker 6 (01:35:44):
Well, I mean remember a bunch of dudes.
Speaker 8 (01:35:48):
Twenty years later, though, I mean, Saint Thomas will teach
you a lot of things like farts are still funny,
Like you can't do that when you have females in the.
Speaker 6 (01:35:58):
Class, and that makes it fun right, I mean, you
know in high school.
Speaker 8 (01:36:04):
You know, it seems like, you know, twenty years ago,
you probably wouldn't have been able to get away with
it as much. I mean, yeah, I mean part of
being in relationships as you get older is things are
are funnier because you're more comfortable with each other. But
I mean, come on, take yourself back, Brian, to be
like sixteen years old. Okay, if you ripped one in class,
don't you think they'd be talked about all all throughout
(01:36:24):
the rest of the day in the spring hallways there, Hey,
lima ripped one?
Speaker 10 (01:36:28):
No?
Speaker 6 (01:36:29):
No, probably not no no, no, probably not probably not no.
Speaker 8 (01:36:32):
I don't, I don't know, but I mean you don't
you don't want that coming at you.
Speaker 5 (01:36:35):
Yeah, but I mean it just it just happened. But
there were females in there, so you know, maybe you
know they laughed. I'm just saying like at the end
of the day, there were I don't know, man, I
just don't know how I would feel going and being
in a class with a bunch of dudes.
Speaker 1 (01:36:49):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:36:49):
You know, like we already had that enough in the
locker room. I don't want to that.
Speaker 1 (01:36:53):
Well, I don't want.
Speaker 5 (01:36:53):
I don't want to be going to you know, I
didn't want. I don't want to be going to algebra
two and just stare at dudes. You know what I mean,
Like you're staring at dudes in the first place.
Speaker 8 (01:37:03):
Man, you're there to learn, Well, it should make it
easier to learn, because no, because then your thought, your
thought is, hey, I'm I'm here to do my business.
I'm here to I'm here to look out for me.
I'm here, I'm here to do what I gotta do.
Speaker 1 (01:37:19):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 6 (01:37:19):
Tough sell for me, man.
Speaker 1 (01:37:21):
I just you know, get it.
Speaker 6 (01:37:23):
And it's not for everybody.
Speaker 5 (01:37:25):
It's not.
Speaker 1 (01:37:26):
No, you're you're not wrong. It's it's it's not.
Speaker 8 (01:37:30):
And you know, being able to go there and having
some of the friendships that I still have to this day.
Speaker 5 (01:37:35):
Is well, that's the best part of that. I mean, yeah,
that's the best part about it, you know, the camaraderie
that you still have.
Speaker 6 (01:37:40):
I didn't know Connor.
Speaker 8 (01:37:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:37:41):
I didn't know Connor was a Saint Thomas alum. Yeah,
c DM is he he went there and CDM really yeah.
And there's a guy that works for seven forty two
as well, Andre that does the night news. He's he's
a Saint Thomas guy as well.
Speaker 6 (01:37:56):
Man tripley, I feel left out, I do to little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
Man, did you have a in for your guy?
Speaker 8 (01:38:02):
On the fifteen? You team shout out to have you
seen the Paul field over there at Saint Thomas.
Speaker 6 (01:38:08):
I'm sure, I mean with a bunch of dudes. I'm
sure it's great. I'm sure. No, No, is it Tomas
the line.
Speaker 8 (01:38:15):
Top of the line.
Speaker 1 (01:38:18):
So there's one.
Speaker 5 (01:38:19):
There's d one programs that do not have a father.
Wilson Field High School baseball field. Huh, okay, you're doing
that right now.
Speaker 6 (01:38:27):
We'll check that.
Speaker 8 (01:38:29):
We we will one day when when I subm in
with you, we will make a trip over there. You'll
see it. And I guarantee you you'll be like, a
high school field shouldn't.
Speaker 6 (01:38:37):
Look like this, am, I am?
Speaker 1 (01:38:38):
I is this is it? Is it all?
Speaker 6 (01:38:40):
I'm assuming it's all turf?
Speaker 1 (01:38:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:38:43):
They they built a new one because it used to
be the law enforcement academy right next door, and they
bought it out and put a baseball field over there.
I think they have a track over there now their
weight room.
Speaker 6 (01:38:55):
Is there an a? Is there an a in the
in the on the field?
Speaker 8 (01:38:59):
That must be another field?
Speaker 6 (01:39:02):
Okay, well if this is, if this is now, this
is not it.
Speaker 5 (01:39:06):
But my goodness, for whatever reason this when when you
type in Saint Thomas High School, for whatever reason, this
pops up, this is I mean, if that's what it
looks like, that's incredible.
Speaker 8 (01:39:15):
But it's legit, man, I'm telling you there there are
Division one baseball programs out there who probably could come
and look at it and say.
Speaker 1 (01:39:21):
Why don't we have this?
Speaker 6 (01:39:22):
This is crazy?
Speaker 9 (01:39:24):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:39:25):
Oh here we go, yep, here it is? That is
That's just what How much money is over there, dude?
Speaker 8 (01:39:32):
I mean you think about the people who came through there.
I mean we've had Dan Matthews.
Speaker 6 (01:39:37):
Come, Connoredy McGovern's.
Speaker 1 (01:39:43):
With the st.
Speaker 8 (01:39:43):
Thomas. I mean, yeah, yeah, we've we've had some people
who you know, they they roam the halls of forty
five hundred Memorial Drive right there, and then they became macas.
Speaker 5 (01:39:53):
Uh so what maka what the maca? That another powerful person?
You know, a personal statu Is that another? Oh okay, okay, yeah, yeah,
we didn't have that. It's at at Spring High School.
We sure didn't, you know. But we also did have
female guy.
Speaker 8 (01:40:07):
Josh Beckett.
Speaker 6 (01:40:08):
We did have Josh Beckett.
Speaker 8 (01:40:10):
Yeah, you have Philip Gootsman.
Speaker 5 (01:40:11):
Did have Philip Gootsman as well, Sure did. That's that's rights.
Speaker 8 (01:40:16):
Goots is my guy.
Speaker 1 (01:40:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:40:18):
As a matter of fact, Stephen Goman Stephen Goodsman also went, yep,
I'm sure good family, old Butch Butch Goodsman.
Speaker 5 (01:40:25):
I wonder if he's listening this one. Hey, love you buddy,
love you love you man, Love you man, love you
see the practice.
Speaker 8 (01:40:32):
That's that's gonna get a message. I I but but
isn't listening right now? One way or another. I'm sure
I'm gonna hear from him today. I heard you talking
about me, buddy.
Speaker 6 (01:40:39):
Love love you man, Mom and Daddy, Hey, love you man,
love you, love you guy.
Speaker 5 (01:40:42):
He used to coach us when we were doing All
Stars and dude, give us the biggest biggest bear hug
of all time and then he yelled at us.
Speaker 6 (01:40:49):
It was great. Yeah, no, no doubt about it. Let's
get to break.
Speaker 5 (01:40:53):
We got to talk about this, uh, Demico Ryan's defense
also seven one, three, two, two five seven. Hiny got
a couple guys that want to get into talk Texas.
That's next on sports Stock.
Speaker 1 (01:41:01):
Seven eight.
Speaker 5 (01:41:04):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, start with Philippe Felipe, Good morning.
Speaker 15 (01:41:11):
Good morning fellas, Uh, good morning ahead of MIAs Manuel.
Speaker 1 (01:41:16):
But uh, we need to get Dan uh a to
Honald Tuesday name.
Speaker 5 (01:41:21):
We got to figure that one out. I don't know,
I don't know what the what a good one for
Dan would be.
Speaker 1 (01:41:26):
We'll let him pick his own.
Speaker 11 (01:41:27):
We'll let him pick it though.
Speaker 13 (01:41:29):
All what.
Speaker 15 (01:41:31):
Uh, Well, going back to the Texans man, you know,
Sunday night football is good for him. Uh and you're
speaking about the defense. Honestly, I really think this defensive
defense reminds me of the of those years when the
Texas really had that great difference, you know, with J. J.
Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
Watt Clowney on the ends, and man, it's scary.
Speaker 15 (01:41:50):
I say that because they had Caleb Williams scrambling like
a chicken with his head cut off, and uh that
that's the one thing I always told people, especially you know,
I've always said it. Man, when the defense gets going
for him, is going to be really dangerous for everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
And me being a Patriots fan, I really don't want
to see them on Monday Night.
Speaker 15 (01:42:06):
Football in a couple of weeks because that defense is
going to tear up our quarterbacks. So that's the one
thing I think that they got going for him right now.
If they can keep going at and keep that pressure up,
that's gonna stop them at this point.
Speaker 1 (01:42:17):
Guys. I mean, I'm not sure how you feel about
that on that one.
Speaker 15 (01:42:21):
But what Sean was saying earlier about, you know, the
quarterback situation, I.
Speaker 9 (01:42:25):
Agree with them there.
Speaker 1 (01:42:26):
It's you can't just throw these rookies in there. They're
gonna start getting hurt.
Speaker 15 (01:42:30):
I mean, I'd rather have them developed for a few
years and you know, or year or two and see
where they can do after that.
Speaker 1 (01:42:37):
But thanks for taking my talk, guys. Appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
Appreciate it. Felipe, enjoy the day. Let's take one more
phone calls. Deve, welcome in, Hey.
Speaker 10 (01:42:46):
Mine, Hey man.
Speaker 13 (01:42:47):
Last night, I didn't see the game. I was looking
at the internet and I was eighteen to fifteen, and
I think they were on the goal line and fourth
and whatever, and they kick a field goal, and I
knew that they were going to lose when they did that.
And here's the reason why. I think, because you have
a couple of minutes, it's you know, it's offense. It's
(01:43:08):
advantage offense for the most part in this league. But
the reason is the Falcons are playing the win now
and not playing the tie. And if you liam at
like the two or three yard line now, they're playing
the tie. I want your opinion on that, because I
think with two minutes left, you should never kick a
(01:43:29):
field goal. You should go for it. And then you
need to drive a stake too. I'm not hang up
to listen to your pick.
Speaker 6 (01:43:35):
Thanks a lot, thank you, Steve.
Speaker 5 (01:43:37):
Uh yeah, talking about Monday night football. The Falcons won
it twenty twenty one sake one. Barkley dropped a crucial
ball on third down from Jalen Hurts, and just like
Steve said, they did did kick that field goal to
excuse me give them the temporary lead, and then Kirk
Cousins leads the Falcons down the field to throw a
(01:44:02):
I think like a six yard touchdown to Drake London
for the game winner.
Speaker 6 (01:44:07):
I like, I understand, you know, taking the points.
Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
And you know taking the lead and then trusting your defense,
which the Eagles their defense is pretty damn good. And
then I don't know, I feel like, and you're at home,
so probably taking the points there. I don't know, how
do you feel about it?
Speaker 8 (01:44:27):
Well, I mean, I think there's a point that kind
of ties both calls together of the one we just
had and also Felipe before, you are who you are
until you're not anymore. And here's what I mean. I
guarantee you that Nick Sirianni sent his field goal team
out there because he said, I mean, even though the
names and the faces have changed, on the other side,
that organization is still the same. They don't come back
(01:44:50):
in situations like this, they don't win games like this.
We'll hold them, we'll beat them. It's all good. And again,
you are who you are until you're not anymore. And
kind of to he based point about Texans, I mean,
how fired up were you yesterday when Damiko Ryans said
what he said about the asas Al Shayer on the
sideline play of like, hey, if you don't want your
quarterback to get hit, don't have them in play, because
(01:45:12):
if they're in play, we're gonna hit them. And I
mean that kind of fires you up as a fan
a little bit, because I almost feel like you're a
fan of a team. But then if your team is
known for physical play, like you, even you walk even
more proudly around in those team colors because you know
(01:45:33):
that if you're playing against an other team, you might
have us right now, but eventually we're gonna wear you down.
And the Texans are kind to that point right now.
And it's only two games in. There's still a long
way to go, and there's still a lot better teams
that they're gonna play along the way. But you have
that type of mindset, it gives you even more confidence
on the field. And these are two organizations that, again
(01:45:54):
from the rest of the NFL has kind of been
wearing it as Hey, that's cute. You guys think you
can win a little bit. All right, Let's get you
in a real game and see if you can win.
And they haven't. And you know, the Astros dealt with
that for so many years too, until they finally got
to the LCS, until they finally won in the LCS,
and then they got to the World Series and they won.
(01:46:14):
And now teams look at the Astros and say, these
guys again, So that's what those that's what the Texans
are trying to strive for.
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
Yeah, and uh, excuse me. And then just kind of
the final thought on Steve's question. Philadelphia had the football
at the Atlanta ten yard line. It was third down
and three sa Quon drops that pass. Then it sets
up fourth down to three with a buck thirty nine
to go, Jake Elliott hits the twenty eight yard field goal.
Speaker 6 (01:46:38):
I think I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (01:46:40):
I feel like Nick Sirianni in that moment wanted the points,
trusting the defense, probably saying there's no way that a
non hundred percent Kirk Cuzins is going to lead the
drive all the way down the field to eventually win it.
But you know, we saw what happened in Atlanta won
the game, so you could probably make a case maybe
(01:47:00):
to go for it on fourth to three, But at
the end of the day, it's early in the season.
You probably trust your defense more than more than anything,
and it just didn't work out. It just did not
work out for Philadelphia Triple Let's run out. Let's run
that audio real quick of Demiko RAN's talking about that
as he's Aushai yere hit on the sideline.
Speaker 16 (01:47:20):
Gets a little antsy when the quarterback gets hit on
the sideline, and you know, but if the quarterback stays in,
he's he's gonna get hit like and now I think
there's everybody's a little sensitive when they are big hits
in the league. Like, we're still playing a physical game
and you're gonna get hit hard if you're playing against us.
That's just how we operate here.
Speaker 5 (01:47:41):
Dad fires me up. Maybe you're gonna get hit hard.
That's how we play and you can see it. Over
the first two weeks, the defense has been flying around
for the Houston Texans. Henry Toatoa leading the team and tackles.
I mean, dude's been flying around. Derek Stingy Stingley getting
an interception on Sunday, Jalen Petree, I mean, Daniel Hunter,
will Anderson Junior. As he's Alshai, You're gonna be interested
(01:48:03):
to see what the league does with him punching Rashawn
Johnson on the sideline ready to take on the entire
freaking Bears roster, which was pretty badass in my opinion.
Speaker 6 (01:48:15):
And again it was a legal hit.
Speaker 5 (01:48:17):
So get out of bounds, Caleb Williams, you don't want
to get rock, get the hell out of bounds, simple
as that.
Speaker 8 (01:48:22):
Yeah, I mean I can understand the Bear side of
it as well, because I mean, look the Texans, even
CJ himself. I mean remember last year when the play
was blown dead and I forget who it was for
Denver that kind of got in his face and CJ said, oh,
I don't need my lineman, I'll get in your face.
And I mean, you know, when you have a genuine
moment like that, you have no choice but to be
(01:48:43):
fired up as a teammate for that where you say,
this guy's willing to do that, I'm not willing to
do that for him.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
You know that's not the case.
Speaker 8 (01:48:50):
But I think it's the other thing too with what
Demiko said, context matters, because I think if you just
read that line, you think, oh, this is a guy
that's just being boisterous, being noxious. But I mean it's
just kind of the genuine nature that he said it,
where I think if you're a player, you hear that
and you say, oh, am I doing enough here? I
mean like that that seriously, I think it if you're
(01:49:11):
in that building and you hear him say it the
way that he said it, you're kind of like, Okay,
you know what we are that way. That's that's right, coach.
That's the way we're gonna play from from here on out.
And that's huge. And you know, kind of the other
way with Nick Sirianni. This was a guy that a
couple of years ago seemed like he had every single
answer after having one of the most awkward introductory press
conferences of all time. But he's shot his mouth, run
(01:49:36):
his mouth, trying to do goofy things on the sidelines,
where even you have Jalen Hurts telling him, man, put
your hand down, like stop stop being goofed, like be
the leader of our team. And I mean he's yelling
at Chiefs fans last year and I think somebody pointed
out they're three and seven, since he was yelling at
Chiefs fans coming off the field, and then last night
you have that situation. I mean, if you're trying to
(01:49:58):
get that confidence back. That didn't necessarily help you if
you Nick Sirianni, No, it sure didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:50:02):
They lose a late one last night. All right, let's
get the break. We'll continue to talk about these Texans.
We're also continue to take your phone calls at seven
one three two one two five seven ninety as we're
rolling along right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show. Kobe
Stevens Golf Apparel. One of the things that you always
hear me talk about when it comes to Kobe Stevens
Golf Apparel is how they support charity organizations right here
(01:50:24):
in the city of Houston, all across the Lone Star State.
They've been up to Colorado, they go over to Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida,
I mean, you name it. They will go and support
charity organizations, especially ones the benefit first responders. Just a
couple of days ago, they were out at the sixth
Annual Brooks Foundation Golf Tournament over at Paarland Golf Club.
(01:50:45):
That organization, that Foundation benefits first responders, and Kobe Stevens
is always going to help support the brave men and
women who put their lives on the line every single day.
So when you see Kobe Stevens Golf Apparel out at
a golf tournament, they're gonna have their tent set up.
Of course, it's about branding and getting their merch out there.
But the money that you spend when you buy an
(01:51:08):
article of clothing or some apparel, whether it's a hat,
a koozy, whatever the case, is, part of that money
that you spend goes back to that foundation that they
are representing. And of course this one was benefiting first responders.
It's just fantastic what they do over at Kobe Stevens
Golf Apparel with the charity organizations of course, first responders,
the veture community, whether it's retired, active duty, it's all
(01:51:31):
supported by Kobe Stevens Golf Apparel. Get over to the
website Kobe Stevens dot com, get yourself a hat, a polo,
a T shirt, pants, shorts, joggers, Ladies Line, youth Line,
and of course, like I say every single day, take
advantage of the super savings section up to seventy five
percent off.
Speaker 6 (01:51:45):
It's Kobe Stevens Golf Parrel, Kobe Stevens dot Com.
Speaker 1 (01:51:49):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue.
Speaker 5 (01:51:53):
Tomorrow as well let's get back out to the phone
line seven one three two point two five seven ninety Anthony. Uh,
you down into Deer Park right now? Yes, sir, Hey,
is that pipeline still still on fire?
Speaker 10 (01:52:08):
No, not that I can see. Man, it was it
was pretty crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
I was.
Speaker 10 (01:52:12):
I was in my car at the library waiting to
go in and get some homework done, and I felt
like my whole car shook, and I was like, what
the hell was that? And I look up and you
just see a big old plume of black smoke. It
was pretty It was pretty crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:52:26):
But no, it's not burning.
Speaker 6 (01:52:27):
So you were so you were actually in your car
when the thing ruptured?
Speaker 10 (01:52:31):
Yeah, hit it and caused it.
Speaker 6 (01:52:34):
Yeah, so, uh so, actually, what a funny thing.
Speaker 4 (01:52:37):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:52:38):
Once I graduated college, my first seven years I was
in the pipeline industry, so I know the pipeline industry
pretty pretty damn well. And yeah, apparently an suv ran
through the fence and knocked knocked the valve and somehow
it ignited. And that that whole situation down there is
scary because you saw how close the the houses are
to that to that valve site. There's like fifteen pipelines
(01:53:00):
right all there, and they had to douse those those
houses like consistently all day yesterday because of how intense
that fire was.
Speaker 6 (01:53:08):
Crazy stuff, man, Yeah it was.
Speaker 10 (01:53:11):
It was crazy and they had a good section a
dear Park shut down all day. But luckily that I'm
aware of, I don't think anybody was seriously hurt from
it that I know of.
Speaker 6 (01:53:24):
Just insane.
Speaker 1 (01:53:24):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:53:25):
Okay, well, I'm glad to hear you're all right. I
didn't know you were in your car during that whole thing.
Glad to hear nobody was injured. But what's on your
mind with these Texans?
Speaker 9 (01:53:33):
Man?
Speaker 10 (01:53:33):
So so, first of all, you know, I know the
Texans only put up nineteen points, but first that's a
that's a damn good Bears defense. And secondly, I think
that the Texans will be able to look at that
game and see that they left a lot of points
on the field. So I'm not really concerned with the offense.
But my two main points is on the defense that
(01:53:56):
I wanted to get to.
Speaker 7 (01:53:58):
Ay.
Speaker 10 (01:53:59):
I think what I learned from the game is a
Kamari Lassiter is absolutely capable of playing on an island
by himself. And two, the the Texans are getting after
the quarterback. And I think it's important to note that
they're doing all of this without Denico Autrey, who had
eleven and a half sacks last year. So this defense
(01:54:19):
is gonna be insane this year. I think top one
or two defenses in the league. So defense wins championships.
Really excited about about this Texans defense, especially with Demiko
Ryans at the helm.
Speaker 5 (01:54:33):
Thank you for the call, Anthony, appreciate it. Denny Gaudry
banned six games. He had a ped violation during training camp,
so he will not be able to come back until
after week six. You had that guy to the to
the defense. Uh, Christian Harris still not playing. I mean this,
this defense for the Texans DAN is Obviously there was
(01:54:55):
every every you know, uh expectation when they got Hunter.
Obviously you still have Will Anderson junior, Derek Stingley, Jalen
Petrie returning looking to elevate their game. You got alsizh
al Shaire, Kamari Lasseter did the draft pick. I mean this,
this defense is really good and we know in the NFL,
(01:55:18):
DAN the defense defense will keep you in a lot
of games and can't get you far in you know,
throughout the regular season obviously into the playoffs, and man,
and I feel like this defense still isn't even playing
their best football because it's only week two or a
goal we're going into week three.
Speaker 8 (01:55:38):
Well, I mean, you know what, it kind of reminds
me of. I Mean, the last time I think I
can remember a defense that it didn't matter what down
it was, they can get after your quarterback or they
can at least get in your backfield was the old
Waite Phillips days twenty eleven, twenty twelve, And for that
it was just a group that I think just needed
a change of mindsets and they finally got it, because
(01:56:01):
I mean, you had a Texans team during that time
that it seemed like every single high draft pick was
was spent on a defensive player. And I mean you
had me, you had most people who were saying, like,
why not find somebody that can compliment Andre Johnson, find
somebody that can help this offense out. And I mean
that was a group that put you in every single position.
(01:56:22):
I mean twenty eleven. I mean, you know, it's kind
of one of those what could have been. If Matt
Schabb doesn't get hurt, maybe that team does be the
one that breaks through and finally gets to the AFC
Championship game. But now, I mean, for everything he's laid
out right there, you're still without some key players, and
I mean linebacker wise, I couldn't be more happy with
(01:56:43):
what you've seen out of Aziz Aushaier and Henry Toatow
and Jake Hanson and guys that you've asked to step
up without Christian Harris out there. I mean you see
how much that Demiko Ryans pours into Christian Harris. I
mean you saw the NFL films whole thing of him
walking him through how he's gonna pick off Joe Flacco
last year, and sure enough he did it. And I
(01:57:03):
mean you completely you know, ice the game at that point.
So I mean there is a reasonab belief that to
the callers point, I mean, this defense can get even
better as the season goes along. And if that's the
case and you're able to take some pressure off of C. J. Stroud,
I mean, we've seen what Joe Mixon's been able to
do for him already. Now we'll see how healthy Joe
(01:57:24):
Mixon is here at least in the immediate But I
mean this is a team that I think kind of
looked at Sunday night and they've had the right mindset
after it of saying, yes, some things went good, but
there's also some things you heard from Demiico Ryans yesterday
that they do this against Kansas City, they're not winning
that game. They do it against Buffalo, they're not gonna
win that football game. They do this on Monday night
(01:57:45):
against the Dallas Cowboys, They're not going to win that game.
So I think that the right lessons are being learned
right now.
Speaker 5 (01:57:51):
Yeah, talking about Kamari Lasser, the rookie cornerbacks so far
this season, ten targets, three catches, twenty eight yards, one interception,
a zero passer rating when targeted. That's a PFF grade
of eighty point three. He is having a really really
good start to his rookie campaign for this defense for
the Texans. All right, let's get into the nine o'clock hour.
(01:58:12):
Let's talk to Astros. They fell last night. You know what,
tough game. Gotta get back after it. We only have
twelve games left in the season. Let's discuss it next
in Sports Talk seven ninety kdm.
Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
E Houston ADHD two Houston, an I Heart radio station.
The Astros, the Rockets, Rockets, thst befall your home for
your home teams. This is Sports Talk seven ninety driven
by the classic Sheavy Sugar Lends studios together.
Speaker 2 (01:58:40):
Let's dry.
Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
Saulisbury, Olbury, Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:58:49):
Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:58:54):
To usc true longtime friend shown Salisbury.
Speaker 6 (01:58:57):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos.
Speaker 5 (01:59:00):
This is the Sean sALS Very show, your home for
Astros baseball. The Falcons beat the Eagles, and Monday Night football.
Bryce Young being benched by the Panthers, former number one
overall pick, not playing good football.
Speaker 1 (01:59:14):
He is bench.
Speaker 5 (01:59:15):
You're gonna have all kinds of different discussions with Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (01:59:22):
Is he done?
Speaker 6 (01:59:23):
Is he gonna get another opportunity? So forth, and so on.
Speaker 5 (01:59:25):
Let's talk Astros baseball. Here on the Sean Salisbury Show
last night, Tough one. They fell three to one. This
is how the final call sounded right here on seven
to ninety.
Speaker 17 (01:59:35):
Suava is the kick in the two to zero and
Myers hits it into the air out to right, ambling
to his right. Tatist he's there and makes the catch,
and that is the ball game. Astros winch streak ends
at four games as the Padres take game one of
this three game series by a score of three to one.
Speaker 6 (01:59:53):
That was Robert Ford.
Speaker 5 (01:59:54):
You can hear every inning right here on seven one
of your home for Astros Baseball. Dan, you Darvius last
night for the Padres, six innings strong, three hits, no
horn runs, three ks, two walks. Spencer Arraghetty pitch count,
pitch count got away from him. Five innings, eight hits,
two earned runs, three k's, one walk, five innings, Dan,
And it was over one hundred pitches and five innings.
Speaker 6 (02:00:17):
That's it's not gonna cut it. One hundred and two pitches.
Speaker 8 (02:00:22):
No, it's not. But I'm actually gonna take the positive
approach to this. Of that was growth last night out
of Spencer Araghetty, because we'd seen him have the pitch
count get up in previous outings, and then eventually it's
kind of almost like a war of attrition of all right, fine,
I give you've twisted my arm hard enough. Here here's
a three run homer, you know, And he didn't do that.
(02:00:42):
He didn't give up the huge inning. I mean, he
gives up the solo shot there to Jackson Merrill. First inning,
gets the RBI double from Manny Machado. But aside from
that able to through and that's growth out of a
young guy like that. I mean, I think a lot
of times you're told you know of how things are
going to go and what to expect, and even when
(02:01:03):
things aren't great, here's how you respond kind of deal.
And I mean he's been unreal in terms of turning
his season around. The record doesn't look like it in
the r doesn't look like it, but in terms of
what you've been able to see from him, in terms
of bounce back appearances, it's been a ton of growth
there and the other side of it as well. I mean,
(02:01:23):
I mentioned this last night on the Tenth Inning Show
that I heard Sparky talk about it during the broadcast
that they thought we'd probably only see you Darvish for
five innings. Well, when you throw seventy nine pitches, you
can go six innings, and he did. And one of
the lines too that I passed along this morning from
Chandler Rome of talking about the six base hits last night,
five singles, one double, that ain't gonna do it, and
(02:01:46):
you know it's again. I've said it a ton on
Twitter and I'll continue to say it until it changes.
I mean, the beatings will continue until morale improves. Well,
the morale that needs to improve is the first four
hitters in this lineup, because I understand what the numbers are.
You can tell me all that kind of stuff, but
they've been pedestrian at best for most of the season.
(02:02:06):
And if this thing is going to reach the conclusion
that I think we all hope it's going to reach,
those guys must be better.
Speaker 5 (02:02:13):
Yeah, they have to be you know there there's too
many games so far this season where Bregman your done,
Al two ve Pania even throwing yiner uh or are
o for like just a couple of nights ago, they
were oh for thirteen and they they luckily they won
that baseball game. But the extra base hits, the power
numbers are down a little bit. Uh last night, Al
(02:02:35):
two A two hits, you're done with a hit, Yiner? Oh,
Tucker with a hit, Bregman over, Paynia over. You know what,
in singles, just start gonna cut it, man. You gotta
you gotta extra base hits. You gotta have them.
Speaker 11 (02:02:50):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (02:02:51):
In credit to you, Darvis, she pitched well. But man,
as we get down the stretch, you know this offense
that's my concern. That's been my concern for the last
I don't know, probably the entire season.
Speaker 6 (02:03:04):
Of course, the injuries are one thing.
Speaker 5 (02:03:06):
What's the pitching staff going to look like down the
stretch because of guys hitting the innings threshold. And as
we continue on the runners in scoring position, Dan, it's
just they were one for five last night, runners in
scoring position left eight on base. It's it's we see
this entirely too often, where they leave too many runners
on base.
Speaker 8 (02:03:27):
Well, I mean, and let me even take it a
step further here, I mean, how many times this season
have we seen the Astros, either when they're the visitor
or they're at home, where they put up a two
to three spot in the first inning, like set the
tone that way of really telling your starting pitcher like, hey,
we got you, like we've spotted you. Go out there,
(02:03:48):
do your thing. We'll try to be able to supplement
as the game goes along. And I understand that doesn't
happen very often, especially too when you face an eighty
six win team like the Padres are. They're really good.
The problem as they just have the Dodgers in their divisions,
so they're gonna likely be a wildcard team. But they
have every bit of the team to be able to
make a run through the National League and make it
(02:04:09):
to the World Series this year. I don't think there's
any doubt about that. But I mean, it just seems
like it's almost on a nightly basis, We're listening and
al Tuve puts together a nice little at bat there,
but he still gets out to start off the game.
And then Jordan, you know, taking a pitch that probably
he needs to ambush there in that first at bat
and eventually leads to him getting out, and the same
(02:04:30):
deal for Yannar Diaz. I mean, it's kind of just
to a certain point where I thought about this this morning.
It doesn't need to be a yell to paint off
the walls type of thing. It doesn't need to be
anything other than you know, you'd tell Omar Lopez going
to the clubhouse, get me Jose, get me Jordan, get
me Bregman, get me Yiner, Like I need those guys,
because notice I left Kyle Tucker out of there. I've
(02:04:53):
been pleasantly surprised for what we've seen out of Kyle
Tucker here in the early going, after not playing for
three months and after not getting a rehab assignment. I
think he's probably been a little bit better than what
we could have hoped. But I think if nothing else,
it's just a conversation that needs to happen with those
guys of Hey, look, we've got about ten of these
things left to go for the rest of the season.
(02:05:14):
If we want to be able to get into the postseason,
how do I get you guys to get in position
and be the guys that we need you to be
for this team? Like what can we do to help
you out? And I think that conversation needs to be
had because I think the chaser to that is we
really need you guys right now, like we need the
three run homer, we need the huge hits off your bat.
(02:05:35):
We don't need the RBI single. We need more than
what we're getting at this point. And if there's something
we can do to help you guys get to that point,
then we're all ears. Let us know, because Pedestrian ain't
gonna cut it. And I mean, you know, you're staring
down a huge series right now. You got the Angels
coming to town. They would like to be able to
(02:05:56):
spoil you. And the same deal goes for the end
of the season after that Mariners series against Cleveland, I mean,
you know, you're maybe gonna be in position to try
to fight for one of those by positions there going
into the postseason. But a way that you put yourself
in position to be one of those top two teams
(02:06:16):
is those guys have to be better.
Speaker 6 (02:06:18):
Yeah, there's no question about it.
Speaker 5 (02:06:21):
When we look at, you know, these standings, Dan, You've
got the Astros ahead by four games because the Mariners
wore were idle yesterday. They get ready to open up
a series against the Yankees, and I just you know,
look looking at the Mariners schedule, and I'm just talking
(02:06:42):
division wise, just winning the division. Looking at the Mariners schedule,
they're at home against New York Yankees, one of the
best teams in baseball, then at the Texas Rangers, then
they come to town to Houston, and then they finished
with the Oakland Athletics. Outside of the the Yankees and
the Astros series, the Mariners should win the series against
(02:07:05):
the Rangers and of course against Oakland, even though Oakland
you know, has been one of the best teams in
baseball second half. I just I'm just focusing on purely
just the division because it's all signs are leading towards
the Astros are gonna have to play a wildcard series,
so that's a three game series. Then you get into
the Alds. So first things first, let's win the division, right,
(02:07:30):
you can't. But but also in that same sentiment, you
can't afford to lose this series to the Padres because
Seattle's pitching is gonna keep them in it. Their offense
not very good, and you know how the Yankees are.
They'll be you know, they'll they'll go on a stretch
where there they'll lose six out of eight. And going
all the way from the East coast, all the way
to Seattle to play in front of a packed house
(02:07:54):
for the Mariners. I just man, and again there's also
something to be said about hitting your stride at the time.
You got to get the bats going. As we get
closer to October, I mean, dude, we're twelve games away
from the start. Because those wildcard series. I don't know
if you looked at the schedule, Dan, but after that
last game against Cleveland, the wild Card starts in two days.
(02:08:19):
You get a day off and then boom, you're right
in the end of the Wildcard it's crazy.
Speaker 8 (02:08:23):
Well, I mean no, that's why the postseason is right now.
I mean we ran into this last year where the
Astros probably made a little bit run in the postseason
because of how they played this time of the year.
And I mean that gets back to the point that
I talked about those guys at the top of the order.
You need those guys to be those guys, like you
need those guys that you know row flow and everybody
(02:08:45):
on MLB network is talking about and seeing, Man, they're
hitting their stride at the right time. Like this team
really needed those guys to step it up and be
the guys that we know they can be. And that's
what you need out of them right now. And not
only that, I mean, you know the same time you're
talking about what's ahead for the Astros, what's ahead for
the Mariners. The moral of the story is you got
(02:09:05):
to win. And I mean the you know, the only
way that you advance in the postseason is winning ball
games and winning that series. And I don't care if
it's the Padres on the other side, I don't care
if it's the Angels, whoever it is. You can scoreboard
watch all you want, and you can you know, wish
and hope, but when you don't win games, it doesn't
matter about watching the scoreboard because then you're counting on
(02:09:27):
teams to beat teams that you need to lose that
might not be equipped to be able to do that
for you.
Speaker 5 (02:09:34):
Yeah, let's continue this discussion on the Houston Astros. Let's
look at the standings across baseball and what it could
look like for a wild Card series seven seven ninety. Well,
also get out to the phone lines, and I talked
to a couple guys. I want to talk about these
Houston Astros. That's next on Sports Talk seven ninety. The
Marucci Sports Indoor Baseball and Softball training Facility is coming
(02:09:56):
to Houston. It's called Hitters House, Houston Baseball and Softball Athletes.
Hitters House will be here soon, and that Maruchi Sports
Indoor Baseball and Softball Training Facility is ten thousand square
feet of hitters paradise. If you think I'm not going
to take my Bandido's team there to get some hacks in,
you're crazy, because this place is going to be absolutely phenomenal.

Speaker 5 (02:11:13):
Continue to talk about these Houston ashells. Let's get up
to the phone lines to talk to John.
Speaker 6 (02:11:17):
John. What's happening, Hey, good morning?
Speaker 10 (02:11:20):
Hey.
Speaker 11 (02:11:20):
Two things One is, uh, yeah, I agree with you.
Speaker 8 (02:11:23):
Uh.
Speaker 18 (02:11:24):
What the astros have staring them in the face is
it's been a storybook year. I mean getting out to
the worst start ever again, all the injuries, the way
everybody's pulled together and got them to this point.
Speaker 11 (02:11:35):
But they could blow it, I mean, staring them right
in the face.
Speaker 18 (02:11:38):
They've gotta they've got to suck it up and make
it happen, or they they may not make the playoffs.
I mean, it could be that. I mean, it's that's
that's serious. And so they've got to get really focused
and serious going down stretch here. And then secondly, I
don't know what it is where these guys don't score
runs for arag Getty.
Speaker 11 (02:11:55):
You remember I called in like over a month ago.
Speaker 18 (02:11:58):
There was a stretch like in July and I think
beginning of August where he had five stars and they
scored a total of two runs for the guy. And
last night, you know there again they just don't score
runs for him. And and you know, Eric Getty typically
holds teams like, you know, a couple of runs or so,
which is acceptable, two three runs except that one bad
start he had and that's that should be good enough.
(02:12:19):
And and uh, I don't know what it is, but
it's just frustrating how when he's pitching, they just don't
score the runs.
Speaker 11 (02:12:26):
And so it's just been it's you know again, I
just uh, it's just really is frustrating.
Speaker 5 (02:12:33):
Appreciate the call, John, Yeah, looking at real quick, John
looking at July. Two of his two out of three
losses in that month, they scored uh two runs.
Speaker 11 (02:12:45):
Yeah, No, what I mean, they just do not score
him runs. I don't know what it is.
Speaker 18 (02:12:49):
And then last night again it was just very frustrating
to watch it just just I don't know what it is,
but it kind of reminds me of the old days,
like you know, Don Drysdale would never get any runs
scored from Sandy.
Speaker 11 (02:13:00):
Kopeks with and all that. But you know, it's just
I don't know what it is, but he just doesn't
seem to get the run support. And and you know,
he really does do the job. I feel he does
do the job.
Speaker 18 (02:13:10):
You know, he typically, you know, well just hold a
team down to like two three runs, but that should
be good.
Speaker 11 (02:13:17):
And with this offense, there's no excuse for this.
Speaker 5 (02:13:20):
I'm looking a little a little further into that, John,
And I do remember you calling about a month ago
asking about, you know, the run support. There was a
couple other outings he had in early August where they
scored they lost one nothing when he pitched, he got
the loss in that one against the Rays, scored a
couple of runs, just a couple of runs against the
White Sox back in I mean you go back to May,
(02:13:42):
they lost to the A's and one of his outings
three to one. I mean it's it's that they scored
just four runs against the Yankees in one of the outings.
I know, it's just four runs, but they gave up.
I mean, this is crazy, man.
Speaker 1 (02:13:55):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 11 (02:13:56):
It's just been unbelievable watching this the whole season. And
poor guy.
Speaker 18 (02:14:00):
I mean, he he pitches his heart out and he
just doesn't you know, they just don't come true for him.
Speaker 11 (02:14:06):
And it's just I don't. I just feel bad for him,
I really do.
Speaker 6 (02:14:09):
Yeah, I appreciate the call, John, thank you. And you know, Dan,
looking at.
Speaker 5 (02:14:14):
The year that Spencer Araghetti has had seven and thirteen
an ERA of almost five, I mean, grinded his ass off,
and you know, he's had really good outings and then
not so good outings in the middle of the road,
and then again last night, like we talked about, I mean,
one hundred and two total pitches through five innings.
Speaker 6 (02:14:33):
It's just not gonna cut it, man. No.
Speaker 8 (02:14:36):
I mean, but you know, it's also too just one
of those things that there's no specific, scientific, imperial evidence
that you can look at and say, oh, yeah, hey,
this is why they don't score runs whenever this guy pitches.
I mean, you know, I think it was Astro's memes
on social media after the win on Saturday night for JV,
where they were like, my god, he got run support,
(02:14:56):
Like remember, for the longest time, JV was that guy
for this team. And I don't think there's a single
guy in that clubhouse that doesn't say, hey, you know,
we're gonna try our best to help this guy win,
because Lord knows, he's definitely doing it for us. And
I mean, it's just one of those things that sometimes
it just I don't know what doesn't click that night offensively,
(02:15:17):
but seemingly that's been the case with Aragedtty and for
the longest time too. I mean, he had gone what
five six starts in a row without getting a win,
and the last start he had before picking up that
win was where he had to go seven innings And
I made the joke where I said, well, that's the
key for Spencer Aragedty I guess if he wants to win,
he's got to go at least seven innings in and outing.
(02:15:38):
But no, I mean just for him himself. I mean,
I think he's a guy that's kind of shown you
that the future is bright for him because he is
a very analytical guy. He's got the stuff, and I
think he'll probably simplify some things going forward, where I mean,
what does he throw five six pitches right now? I mean,
maybe find about two or three that really work for
you and be able to, you know, command the zone
(02:15:59):
with those and sky's the limit for you kind of deal.
But no, I mean it's another loss last night that
you can look at and you look at one thing
in particular that didn't come through for you, and that's
the bats. And it's been numerous times this year that
I mean, there's part of me that's hoping that maybe
if they are able to make it into the postseason,
(02:16:20):
that they can kind of take a deep breath and say,
the runners in scoring position stuff doesn't matter anymore, the
double plays that that doesn't matter, that's all in the past.
But you'd also like to see them kind of make
you believe that's the case. And it's too many times
this year that we've looked at it and said, you
come through in a certain spot. We're talking about a
totally different outcome in a game, and they just haven't
(02:16:42):
done it. And it goes back to the conversation that
I had with you and Sean when I was in
West Palm Beach. What's the thing that concerns you the
most about this team starting rotation That has not been
a concern this season, if anything, not only the starters,
but the bullpen as well. And I understand Taylor Scott's
going through it a little bit right now, but for
the most part, that group's got done for you all season.
Speaker 1 (02:17:03):
And one more on this.
Speaker 8 (02:17:05):
You know, if there is one person that I could
kind of say should wear it a little bit more
than others, it's Alex Bregman. I mean, you post the
videos about being in the lab, you say what you
say before the season about I feel like this is
gonna be my best season, and I mean numerous times.
I mean last night nearly grounding into a double play
(02:17:25):
to end the threat for them to not even have
an opportunity with Victor Carrattini coming to the play at
that point, Like, dude, if you want to be that
guy and you want to get that long term deal, Like,
you got to show us that it's warranted. Because it's
kind of getting to the point here, you know, Lilimo
where I go on Twitter immediately after one of his
at bats he's grinded into a double play or something,
(02:17:46):
and Astro's Twitter goes nuts on him when he doesn't
come through in a certain spot.
Speaker 6 (02:17:51):
Yeah, it's Astro's Twitter, man, what do oh?
Speaker 8 (02:17:56):
I mean? I understand that it's not necessarily the group
to look to and say, oh, yeah, I mean, they're
one hundred percent right. But at the same time, though, too, Look,
I think the frustration is valid. Yeah, if you're going
to be that guy and you want to be paid
to be that guy, then you got to be that guy.
And there's still a chance for him to be able
to kind of rewrite the book. But for the most
(02:18:16):
part this year, in those situations, I have not been
confident that Alex Bregman is gonna come through in those spots.
I'm sorry, I'm just not.
Speaker 5 (02:18:24):
Let's continue to talk about these Houston Astros postseason watch

Speaker 8 (02:19:55):
And also to Bryce Young, you are no longer to
starting quarterback the Carolina Panther.
Speaker 6 (02:20:01):
Oh that hurts, but hey, it's business not good man,
did you see?
Speaker 1 (02:20:08):
Look?
Speaker 8 (02:20:09):
Yeah, go ahead, what were you gonna say?
Speaker 5 (02:20:10):
I was gonna say the statistic of this past Sunday
where on twenty nine dropbacks he was pressured on just
four for Bryce Young.
Speaker 8 (02:20:20):
So so so it's I mean, it is kind of
the Taylor Swift song, the anti Hero. It's me, I'm
the problem.
Speaker 1 (02:20:26):
It's me.
Speaker 6 (02:20:27):
Yeah, Hello, it's me.
Speaker 1 (02:20:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:20:29):
Definitely.
Speaker 5 (02:20:30):
Hey, if the if the playoffs started today in the
Major League Baseball, the Astros would have to play the
Twins in the wild Card and they would uh if
they win that series and they got to go play
the Cleveland Guardians, who this status insane. The Cleveland Guardians
have not lost a game in over a year with
(02:20:52):
a lead after the eighth inning.
Speaker 8 (02:20:54):
Think about that, well, I mean the Astros have not
been good late innings either. So what's the moral of
the story there? Something we talked about a little bit earlier.
Get out to an early lead, They get out to
an early lead, and they have a lead after six innings.
You feel really good about this team if they're kind of,
you know, one foot in, one foot out, and not
(02:21:16):
able to add on to a lead and they kind
of have to sweat it out where hey, it's a
four to three lead in the seventh inning, here comes
Brian to pray you well, a lot of times he's
been able to hold onto it. But then wait, there's more.
Here's Ryan Presley and he's been better as of late.
But you still would like to be able to give
those guys a little bit of insurance. So that's kind
(02:21:36):
of what I've been talking about with the guys at
the top of the order needing to be a little
bit better, because I think if they are, then look
how much different Jeremy Panya is at the plate, Look
how much different Jake Myers is and on down the line,
like how this lineup is supposed to work. It's because
those guys at the top of the order take the
pressure off those guys and they don't feel like, Hey,
(02:21:58):
I've I've got to be the guy that comes through
in this situation. So I'm really gonna be gripping the
bat tight on this one.
Speaker 6 (02:22:04):
Seven seven. I you talk about these astros, Gary, welcome in.
Speaker 1 (02:22:09):
Hey, good morning, guys. I've just wanted to kind of
go a different direction here.
Speaker 7 (02:22:14):
I was on board with all the callers. It's human nature.
You just gotta love human nature. It's just so easy
to be negative and hang on to the negative spot.
But six how many games left? Is twelve twelve and
we're four games for first place.
Speaker 6 (02:22:29):
Four game lead ye Mariners, Mariners in second place?
Speaker 1 (02:22:32):
Yeah, yeah, So.
Speaker 11 (02:22:34):
What's to be negative about it?
Speaker 7 (02:22:35):
Before the season started, if somebody would have said, hey,
we're gonna jump forward in twelve games left, um be
in first place by four games.
Speaker 1 (02:22:43):
I don't see any negative kind of tones on that.
I understand.
Speaker 7 (02:22:46):
But and I'm not talking about you guys, because you
guys are just presenting the facts on both sides. But
the callers are just so negative.
Speaker 6 (02:22:55):
You have you met astros fans.
Speaker 19 (02:23:00):
Yeah, yeah, no kidding, but yeah, but I just wanted
to do a different spin on it. There's nothing to
be sad and upset kind of word, and concerned a
little bit, but nothing negative here. To be first place.
Speaker 7 (02:23:11):
Four games, I would take that in a heartbeat at
the start of the season, wouldn't you.
Speaker 5 (02:23:15):
Yeah, yeah, there's no question, Gary, I think this season
has been i mean just in the last you know,
the golden age since what twenty let's just say twenty seventeen.
You know, what we've come to know about this Astros
team is they get close to winning one hundred games
every single year.
Speaker 6 (02:23:31):
They dominate their division.
Speaker 5 (02:23:33):
And they started at ten to twenty four this season
where they were at one point ten games back of
the division, and they flipped it within like a week
and a half and took the lead. And then there's
you know, there's some there, there's rough points along the way,
especially here lately. Runners in scoring position, guys aren't aren't
you know, coming through. But look at the end of
the day, they're leading the division by four games, and
we're getting down to twelve games left, and they're going
(02:23:56):
to be back in the playoffs once again, and hopefully
make a good run to get back to the ALC.
Speaker 6 (02:24:00):
Yes, So yeah, I think.
Speaker 5 (02:24:02):
There's like, I think there's a difference between and you
can disagree with me or you can agree with me.
I think there's a there's a clear difference in raising
concerns and then just being straight up negative.
Speaker 6 (02:24:12):
You think that's fair.
Speaker 7 (02:24:12):
Yeah, there's one other thing, if I may before before
I have to go here, the silver lining and all this,
what other team either sides maybe one or two on
the other see, what other team would you want in
the playoffs, even if even if you're wild card, with
the experience and the knowledge and how many games they've
played in the Yeah, in the playoffs, what other team
would you want out there other than the Astro.
Speaker 1 (02:24:34):
So I'm just I'm just excited about it.
Speaker 7 (02:24:37):
And I want to thank the call callers for being
so negative because I was out way too this morning.
But now I'm on the positive side. So anyway, guys,
you guys are bringing up a lot of great points
and I appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (02:24:47):
Thank you for the call.
Speaker 1 (02:24:48):
Gary.
Speaker 11 (02:24:48):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:24:49):
You know, Dan, I I'm with him on the fact
of you get these Astros into October. It's a completely
different ballgame, man, These guys are, uh, they know how
to play in October. That chorus still they are, They're essentially,
They're essentially.
Speaker 6 (02:25:04):
The Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (02:25:05):
You looked at the Chiefs last year, and Sean and
I talked about this quite a bit, like we thought
there was no way in hell the way that that
team was playing, there's no way they could make a
deep run and get back to the Super Bowl, and
let alone they won back to back titles. I think
it's the same thing with the Asteroids. You get them
in October and knowing the history and knowing the pedigree,
knowing how how many times and how many games and
(02:25:26):
how many moments they have had in October, just get
to October, just get to the playoffs means well.
Speaker 8 (02:25:32):
I mean in the first time they proved that. I
think during this run of you know, seven straight alcs's
was twenty twenty, I mean, I don't think there was
anybody that felt good, even with empty stadiums, about their
chances to be able to beat the Oakland A's and
then Powell. They did it before that. They went up
to Minnesota and beat the Twins, and I think that
probably the way that that season had gone if they
(02:25:52):
had lost to the A's in the Alds, you would
have been like, well, it sucks because now we're gonna
have to hear about it on social media, which whatever,
And that wasn't a concern because even with all the
memes and everything with Mike Fires, Mike Fires got to
go home early and didn't pitch again. So good riddance.
See you don't let the door hit you on your
way out. But I mean that was proven then it
(02:26:14):
was proven again last year. I mean I think even
going into that series against the Twins, it was kind
of a thought of, gee, I hope and they were
able to take care of him in four games and
nearly got back to the World Series with the opportunity
to do that. I think from the astro fan perspective
a little bit is the thing that's kind of, I
guess challenged you these last couple of years is it
(02:26:36):
hasn't been easy. I mean, they made it for about
a five year stretch right there where it looked pretty easy.
I mean, we were talking about a team that would
be going into this next full week of games with
an opportunity to be able to clinch the division, and
they still could. I mean, let's see how tonight goes,
Let's see how the Mariners series against the Yankees goes,
and maybe you have an opportunity to clinch it against
(02:26:57):
the Mariners next week. But I mean, that's kind of
what's concerned people a little bit. There's a feeling a
little bit of I ain't going back, like we remember
those days as Astros fans. We remember the early twenty tens,
we remember before the late nineties when they started winning
National League Central divisions of you know, man, it just
(02:27:18):
would be nice to see this team in the playoffs,
and then we finally saw them the playoffs, and then
it was it would be really nice to see them
win a playoff series. And then they finally won a
playoff series and got to the ALCS. Oh man, it'd
be nice to win a World Series again, kind of
we were talking about earlier with the Texans and Falcons.
On the NFL side, you are who you are until
you're not anymore, and the Astros are proven who they
(02:27:40):
are now. It's just up to them to be able
to make good on it at this point.
Speaker 5 (02:27:44):

Speaker 8 (02:29:18):
We want to win.
Speaker 3 (02:29:19):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety seven.
Speaker 5 (02:29:23):
Thirty on Deck Show. Right here on seven ninety you're
home for Astros of baseball. The Falcons beat the Eagles
last night in Monday Night Football. Bryce Showing no longer
the starting quarterback for the Panthers. He was benched yesterday.
Brian Dan and Tripoli here with you the hunt Dog.
Dan gonna be on the mountain tonight for the Astros.
He's eleven and eight three point five nine e r A.
(02:29:44):
He has been really good down the stretch and they
need to get back into the win column. See if
you can shut down Jerks and Profar. Dude went four
for four last night.
Speaker 8 (02:29:57):
Yeah, and of course too a nice little back flip
there that he had, which I mean, I get it,
you said it about ten rows deep in the right field.
But I gotta wonder if maybe I'm not saying, you know,
to go Alex Cora here, because we'll see what happens
with Alex Cora of intimating that they were throwing at
Aaron Judge. But maybe with that fastball, as Jeff Blum
(02:30:21):
calls it, the f U fastball that Hunter Brown has,
maybe he lets Jerks and Profar know that the inside
corner of the plate that's gonna be me tonight. So
if you want to try to beat me there, uh,
then do your best. But maybe he reminds him right
there of Yeah, four for four is ain't gonna happen
against me? Dog, Yeah, diesel on the diesel. You look, man,
(02:30:43):
the Padres have a good lineup. Obviously made a machado
Luis arez arise, excuse me, ma, I'm a machado.
Speaker 6 (02:30:50):
Jerks and Profar, you know it's.
Speaker 8 (02:30:54):
Cnning worth all those guys. Yeah, he's uh, although it
doesn't look like it doesn't look like a Rise is
gonna be playing the night. I mean he had that
slide in the home plate, that's right. Yeah, they you know,
they think it probably wrenched you know, his his thigh
or something as he kind of stuck his foot in
the ground right there. And then he hit that double
later in the game and had to be lifted for
(02:31:14):
a pinch runner. So you were able to finally strike
him out, which nobody had been able to do. That
was nice. That crazy, Yeah, that's look. I mean, it
kind of shows you when you simplify the approach of
just saying, hey, let me put the ball in play,
things can happen. And it worked for Tony Gwen all
those years, and it's seriously working for Luis Arise.
Speaker 5 (02:31:36):
Luisa Rise, Padres star. He won one hundred and forty
one played appearances between strikeouts. That is crazy. That's that's
he was the first player to do it in twenty years.
It's been rag Getty finally striking out Luisa Rise. And
(02:31:57):
I know you're going to be listening to the game
on Sports Talk seven to ninety. Uh, your home for
Astros Baseball. The game is on True TV.
Speaker 6 (02:32:07):
You know, dude, it's just it's it's it's on True TV.
Speaker 8 (02:32:16):
But you'll be so wait the TV side even working then,
I mean, or a hard time about this. You get
an off day there in San Diego.
Speaker 5 (02:32:24):
Yeah, I don't know, man, it's just uh, Major League Baseball, dude,
It's just it when it comes to like broadcasting and
the things that they do, like with their blackout restrictions
and Apple TV. Plus you know, now you're putting on
True TV, like really so random. I mean I know
(02:32:44):
you have it on tn T, and I know True
TV is part of the tn T, but it's just
so random man. Well I mean yeah, I mean you know,
somewhere the Astros need to be saying, hey, seven straight
alcs is two World Series appearances, and you're treating us
like we're a six to eleven in the n C
DOUAA tournament here of getting I don't know, Kevin Harlan
whoever calling this one, although that's probably like a Spirodidas game.
Speaker 8 (02:33:05):
Nothing against Spiro, but yeah, True TV. I mean we
can't even get TBS on that side. No, man, I
don't Well, but the moral, the moral of the story
is here. You know what it is, you even laid
it out. You always know you can count on Robert,
You always know you can count on Sparky, and you
always know that you can count on us right here

Dan Matthews is gonna be holding it down. Hey, last
thing we asked Sean, we're gonna ask you to Are
you okay? Did he got rested yesterday? I know that's
your boy?
Speaker 8 (02:33:50):
Oh yeah, No, No, I'm good. I'm good.
Speaker 1 (02:33:53):
I am sure.
Speaker 8 (02:33:54):
I purged. I purged my my playlist weeks ago. Certain
allegations were out there. You can't be caught listening to
someone after certain allegations hit.
Speaker 6 (02:34:06):
No, they just TMZ just I'm not gonna read him
on air.
Speaker 5 (02:34:09):
But TMZ just released more allegations against him, and yeah,
not good, not good at all. But the Fed's got
him up in New York, Man. So I just want
to you know, Tripley and I were concerned. So make
sure you're okay. You're okay, I'm good, I'm good. There
there's many different options. Now I'm still good. Well, appreciate
(02:34:30):
you hanging out with us today, Dan, and well we'll
talk to you tomorrow. You're gonna join us a day again.
