Springing the team to victory yesterday evening, Jon Singleton shows up huge for the Astros in game one against the Angels. Noting Singletons production this season, many believe he's earned the right to being the Astros everyday first basemen. Should the Astros consider that Singleton is the guy?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Susy. Okay, let's do this. Sewn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
To usc Trump's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobo, this is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Before we hear his ass andine take Let's talk to Rhino. Ryan.
What's up?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Man?

Speaker 1 (00:28):
So Karl Hey doing today?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
You know, just another day in paradise? What is it?
Sean done? Another day above dirt. It's a good day.
I'm right right right side of the dirt.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Congratulations Sean on getting your mediation license. All week, I've
been wondering how that would go, and then Carl called
and so now I think I got a good idea.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
Uh yeah, yeah, Karl needs me as his mediator. Thank
you for the compliment. Ron, I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Of course.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Man.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
I feel like I want to echo what y'all said
and kind of unless you're gonna go get Pete Alonzo
or someone like that, I feel like anything else will
just kind of be wasted money, especially when you're trying
to retain other players like Tucker Bregman and Fromber. It's
I don't think you're gonna find anybody that moves the
needle that much without getting somebody but also at the

(01:17):
same time, you really don't I don't think you need
them if you can keep the other talent on the team.
And I just I don't know if you're gonna find
somebody that's gonna fit in that role. But also knowing
Houston Nationals are probably gonna let him both walk, I
have I believe I think Alex might stay, but that's
a whole different ballgame, but I think it would be

(01:39):
for something different. I think Tucker wants to be here,
but he's not getting what he needs. And if if
they're not gonna pay him, I mean, he's gonna bounce.
But I just think the first baseman that that section
doesn't really need to move quite yet. I agree with
you all, Singleton's earned it and so but anyways, just
wanted to call in and give my two cents and

(01:59):
got to get back to work.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
I'll see you guys later. Ryan. Thanks.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
I think Ryan's point is not just valid, but I
think he's spot on. If you're gonna go get somebody
who is like Singleton, but you're gonna have meaning. He
may not be the dominant, best first baseman, but you're
bringing him in. You're spending you know, a certain amount
of money on him, and he's got to fit in here,
and he's not a Lonzo or Guerrero one of those guys.

(02:21):
And you're still why if you've got a guy who,
if he plays one hundred and forty five games at
first base, can give you production, which he can and
got I think I think Singleton's got an underrated glove.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah, I do.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
And so why unless you Now, if you all of a
sudden say hey, we got a Lonzo, we're paying it,
We're going to do it. We may lose somebody, but
you you're sold on him, then then I understand their move, right,
But if you're going to go get somebody who is
a mid level first basement that you think upgrades the position,
not from saying just it gives you, gives you a
little some.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Pop, don't you have him Ryan right on?

Speaker 5 (02:57):
Unless you're going for a star at first base, let
Singleton turn into a star. That's the way I feel,
and and and we we are quite frankly, we've been
saying it regularly. And when we say we think they're
gonna go after it doesn't mean if we were a
general manager at the front office, we would I think
they're gonna go inquire about a first basement and find
out where that is. But Ryan, I think Ryan is

(03:20):
dead on with this. If you're gonna go get John
Singleton from somebody else, keep John Singleton here. If you're
going to get in that that guy who Alonso Grid
that one of those and I get it. But if
you're just gonna go, if it's a lateral move, yeah,
it doesn't make sense. Stop it. It's a waste. You

(03:40):
already have that announce I don't need a lateral move, No,
you don't.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I need an.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Upgrade if you if you're gonna go, you gotta go
upgrade big.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
You just do.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
But and a guy who comes here that may not
be a star, but it's somewhere and it's not not
a hack. He's in there, and that's Singleton. He's a
good player and probably underrated. But if you're gonna go
get a lateral move first basement, he can stay where
he is.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
And also you gotta remember they're still on the hook
for Jose Bray. You's salary next year.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Joe's getting paid now. Yeah, so.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
I think you think Joe loan ten million to yeah,
just paid ten million backs they could go you know,
give a breggy bomb.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Probably not.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
He's gonna need to buy the first time you'll ever
hear me saying and don't say that.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, exactly, he's gonna do it.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
He's gonna need to go buy more rubber bands. First,
go tea. Oh yeah, the goat. You gotta you gotta
tie up the goat. Yeah, somebody talking about ponytails. You
got to tie the goat up. It was pretty crazy
to think that, Uh he was. He was once the
starting first basement for the Astros Jose Brady.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
Yeah this year. Oh you're talking about Joe Bray. You're
not saying, yeah, not singing, yeah about Joe. We're still
talking which we're still talking ponytailing the beard, right, Yeah,
I got you. Yeah, yeah, good guy. Production was done.
Singleton's are in the right to be the first basement
singing right now?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Oh that's that's that's John Singy, John Thingy at first Base.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Blomber blubber love it.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
You know it's it's Mexican Heritage Weekend over at Midi
May Parks.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah. Yeah, that's the uniform changed to the uniform.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, they're giving out to Jose al to ve lost
Astro jerseys. I need to give me one of those.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Now, those are my people. Those are my flying Esco
flying some Mesco peeps from Esco. Hey man, they're giving
out jerseys.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
Man, sauz he Holmes, Hey pepe Man, can you give
me one of them jerseys?

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Give you Souse jerseys. I don't think.

Speaker 6 (05:34):
I don't think my flannel is gonna work at the minute. Later,
you've got to let me.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yeah, that's my boys. Man. Man, it's like ninety degrees.
You think we think.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
People think we are kiddy, obviously, but that those are
my guys right in my hometown. I love it. It's
awesome and you know, I mean it's being.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Streets Day and pep okay man, can you give me
one of them jerseys? Minutes?

Speaker 6 (05:53):
Sean? Yeah, Sean, But we're going to road trip in man.
We want to get tickets too. Yeah, we want to
go east Man. Don't forget about your peeps. Don't don't
forget where where you were, where you carved out your life.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
So you know we can we can have a couple
of surveyces together.

Speaker 6 (06:06):
Many souse man, pipe man, kind of guess one of
those little astro jerseys. Hey, I heard that Alima guy souse.
He making talking, talking a little trash about escal.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Are you bringing him here? Is he coming coming?

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Man?

Speaker 1 (06:21):
I don't want to bring him into the mescal. I
don't think he can. I don't think he can hack
it over there, man, that real quick.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
I talked to Chris and I want to talk melkyper Jr.
Next segment, Chris, what's happening?

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Hey, morning guys, first time caller, Love your show. Just
wanted to run something by y'all, get y'all's take on it.
I agree with the John Singleton take, but I got
another option as well. You know we want pomp at
first base. Why not put yin or Ds permanently a
first base We can get Caroteny more in the lineup
of a permanent catcher. Re signed Bragman in the outfield,
and it's off season. Go out there and fix our

(06:58):
center field position. You know you've got Jeremy Payne. You're
coming up for arbitration. He has regressed a little bit,
in my opinion, But we got Bryce Matthews in the
triple A coming up right behind him and could take
that spot. I just wanted to hear y'all take on
it because I hear it, But everybody want Pop at
first base.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
We got him or dys Thank you, Chris.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
You know, I think that is a very I don't
know if Reel's fair, but I think it's a very
interesting point. Plus, you preserve his legs for a lot
longer production at first base. Sometimes we wait, meaning major
League Baseball waits too long to move that the Joe
Mauers of the world. I'm not saying as Joe Mauer,

(07:35):
we said Piazzas right, you milk it so much and
by the time they get to first base, their bodies
are hammered, right, And I'm not saying Diaz wants to
move to first base. We see he's played a couple
you know, he's played over there before. I think Ryan
makes a good point. Let's say you didn't get a
big bobber, Chris. It was it was it, Chris, right right, Okay,
there you go, Chris. It makes a great point because

(07:56):
let's say you don't get one of those guys we're
talking about, and you love you like Sayingleton, but you
want more let's say even more depth. You want Singleton
on the roster, but you want to move a guy
you got because you think Diaz, you need his bat
in and your the growing respect for Krotena behind the play.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, let's just say it's a hell of.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
An option because you keep that big bat in there,
and now you've got that. Now the position is a
strong position, I mean a deep position with Singleton starting
sometimes and backing up if you were going to do that,
because we know Jan's bat is lights out. Oh yeah,
the consistency of it, there's no doubt. And what we're
not talking much about is the center field thing. How

(08:31):
much do they love Jake Myers moving forward and will
they be into that. It's gonna be hard to go
get a centerfielder, Go get a big bopper at first base? Uh,
try to keep Kokuchi pay Alex Bregman. Can't do them all, No,
you can't. So what are the priorities question for Dana
Brown as we move forward, once near the postseason and
once it's over to ask him, what's I mean getting bregmant,

(08:53):
but position wise, what's the priority in the off season?

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Yeah, I still think I would love more at basked
for Kartini.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
I think he's just a grinder at the point too.
He works pictures man.

Speaker 5 (09:07):
I realized I can live with that if you're gonna,
like I said, that's not a lateral moves. I mean,
giinerd Is is a stick right. Oh yeah, but I
don't go get me a guy who we already have
on the roster don't need to do it.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
You gotta to funnel that money where it needs to be.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, and there's gonna be some point interesting moves with
the financial situation for the Ashos this offseason. We're gonna
talk NFL mel kiper Junior after teaser for a couple
of segments. What did he say about two high safeties?
That's next right here on Sports Talks
