Speaker 1 (00:02):
Say, okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury, the USC Truths, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the sewn Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Obviously, the playoffs right around the corner for the Astros
in Major League Baseball. Aaron Rodgers seems like he might
be getting in a groove, getting getting his feet back
under him. And then of course the Texans play on Sunday. Oh,
by the way, we got to get into at some
point today, a certain analyst wants to get rid of
(00:42):
two high safeties in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (00:44):
So that's fun. Yeah, So what's.
Speaker 6 (00:47):
Up that, uh, they're putting this crap on TV? To
the fact that this was said, I can't even fathom
that this is that they're doing this. I got ripped
them to shreds yesterday, so I'll rip them to shreds today.
So I just it's, uh, it's baffling to me. I
(01:09):
think TV executives are the people that hire them, are
getting to the point they must they must not see
what the rest of the world sees. Probably I don't
understand if it's just I don't know what they're looking for.
Warm bodies don't exactly just just because you walked off
the field in any sport or you've been in a
long time doesn't mean you know how to teach it
to the rest of the world.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
It's embarrassing.
Speaker 6 (01:29):
That was a very and quite frankly, some of these
executives that hire these people ought to be ashamed of
themselves because they're brutal and and and you'd be better off,
you know, you'd rather have a damn prostate check, okay, gracious,
And some of them make you want to have one.
So there are some good ones, but there's some really
And you know, I usually am very you know, laid.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
Back about that.
Speaker 6 (01:51):
I know it's a hard job and the rest of it,
but you make it harder when you say stupid stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
It's ill prepared and crap.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
And we put a lot of people on there just
because we have to, meaning meaning, oh, former player and
he's got a warm body, let's throw him in because
he just walked off the field. Yet, how about an audition,
make him sit in front of the camera, maybe practice
a little bit before you throw him on, to just
overload his mouth with his ass or her. There's plenty
of them too, Yeah, okay, if they if.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
They're in the game.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
Now they're they're they're worthy of criticism, and there's there's
plenty of there's plenty of overloading their mouth, that they're
asked trash on TV to send out trash information.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
Okay, that you're like, what did you just say? Perfect example,
Cheryl swoops.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
She cannot she can't have her own her own verbal way,
So I don't but I don't even pay it. I mean,
sometimes it gets to the point where it becomes just noise.
But you know, oh, let's just hire the guy because well,
he's just a he's just walked off the field. Oh
let's just regive the guy four million dollars because he
talks louder than everybody else. Let's give the guy ten
million dollars, well, because he got some I mean, it's
(02:56):
just it's to me, it's just baffling. And there's some
really good ones, but there's some who actually who actually
make make you want to mute the sound. A lot
of good ones, but a lot of them. And who
in the world rolls up and says, and you know what,
mel Kuiper, I love mel I do. I've been a
he's been a friend forever. But you can be a
(03:16):
friend with somebody and still call it a trash take.
It's okay to do that. We've all said plenty of
stuff for somebody who's your friend because they do that.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
Are you kidding me? Yeah? Be mad all you want.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
Folks, you can criticize friends too, because matter of fact,
sometimes we should criticize friends more. Why because they're your friends?
That damn right it should be. And I love I
love Mel. Mel's built an unbelievable business all these years
that he's been in unbelievable started but in his own
home just build wright in these books he spends a
lot of time.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
But to you lose instant credibility.
Speaker 6 (03:44):
When you stand up in front of the world and say,
and I didn't one of the other gals say it,
or someone on covers about cover two stand up in
the world say we need to eliminate two high safeties.
Now we've already gimmick up the NFL in law. The
NFL is no longer And you can argue with me
all you want. The NFL is no longer have the
(04:06):
integrity of being a good tackle football. It's good football.
There's good football players. I'm not even talking about the players.
I'm not about the rules and the stuff that we say.
I mean, who in the world woke up yesterday morning
decided you'd say Cover two should be we should outlaw
cover two two high safeties. What Now, you're an idiot
as a defensive coordinator nowadays, if that's your staple defense,
(04:31):
if you're any kind of quarterback that's got any kind
of clue at all, Harry hatchet ass can beat cover
too if he's just smart with the football.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
It ain't that hard.
Speaker 6 (04:39):
And by the way, and Cover two, if you want
to play me cover too, I got a good running game.
I'll run it fifty times in a game and we'll
run for four hundred yards on you. So it's okay,
I know how to combat that. I mean, who all
of a sudden, Yeah, it's no like if it's not
Monnie Kiffin who built to Tampa two and did an
unbelievable job of building of that defense of Super Bowl defense.
(05:00):
But things change, Buddy Ryan's forty six defense, pressure pressure,
pressure like that. Guess what people don't do as much anymore, Run, Buddy,
Ryan Stevens, because you've got to have the personnel to
do it.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Teams that play cover two are a little bit afraid.
They don't.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
Defensive coordinators don't like to pressure much. They'd like to
keep everything in front of them, which is the defense
is designed for, and they don't.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
They they're a little bit nervous play man.
Speaker 6 (05:21):
They don't want leave their corners on an island, and
they don't want to play man defense, so they keep
everything in front of and I hope you can come
up and tackle.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
And they believe their front seven can defend the run.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
In Tampa's defense, Derek Brooks, Warren Sapp, you know Simme
and Rice Booger, McFarlane, John Lynch down from the safety
when they'd come out of cover two. Their front seven
was nasty, and so you can run cover two. Buddy
Ryan's defense could play man all in the field. Before
you could blink your eyes, they were in the backfield.
So they blitzed all the time and gave you the
the the look of a blitzing defense. But to actually
(05:52):
get on, I mean that'd be like me getting up
and saying offense. And I don't know why we continue
to want to give rules to offense, every rules set
up for the offense. Matter of fact, and I will
say it being a quarterback's a difficult job, and times change,
and there's some great players. I can tell you now.
It's made the quarterback position so much easier. The rules
have cleared the way for the quarterback position to be easier.
(06:15):
I'm not saying it's easy, and I'm not saying, oh,
that's just old head. I'm not saying the old guys
are better than you guys. I'm just saying, Mahomes and
those guys could have played when I played, and Elway
would have dominated in this era.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
So do look at it however you want. It's the rules,
that's the players for me.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
But we have created this stuff to war football, the
integrity attackle football is not the same. Don't tell me
this is the same football you were watching. What it
was really football? And please don't tell me an analyst
on TV that sits up there who I love. But
this comment to say, uh, we got to we gotta
do away with cover two. What are we gonna do?
I have an official back there say move up a
little bit, can't play cover two?
Speaker 3 (06:52):
What So we're.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
Gonna go up to the let's go to the offensive
side and say you're not allowed to run.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
The ball on first down.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
In that in essence, we're telling a defensive coordinator with
eleven guys in the field what he can't do with
his defense. What are we playing? Pop Warner? No blitzing
a lot? Is this the Pro Bowl? Stick him in
flags and let's go. Yeah, the integrity of pro football
is no longer the real pro football that your dad watched.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
And it's not the player's fault.
Speaker 6 (07:19):
But I could tell you when you open up that
if you give somebody an inch, what do they take
when it comes to rules?
Speaker 5 (07:23):
A mile at times two?
Speaker 6 (07:25):
And give an analyst an inch for clicks and to
just get some Oh, let's stir this up so on
viral on social media. Oh say that, and then you
look at us, say, dude, you cannot believe that. You
cannot get on TV and believe what you just said
and then want us to think you're credible with everything
else you said. Now, Mel is credible. Mel's done a
(07:47):
great job. But that's simply you talk about a reach, dude,
he talks about Oh, that's a reach in the draft.
That's about as reach a common as you can have.
So take it however you want it, Take it however
you want. At the bottom line is the football I'm watching,
and the people on TV at times that I'm watching
simply don't have a clue.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Why do we have such gimmicks in sports?
Speaker 6 (08:10):
Because they work, because they pay, because they're getting them
on TV.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Like just in Major League Baseball gimmicks. Rules get same
with football because.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
They think they got a kdoh, it's a new style
of game. It's twenty twenty four. Everything else changes, and
you know, we want things, I mean get they want
their analysis in minute thirty clips. Now, okay, and that's fine,
but to good. But when it comes to rules, you
got to change with the time. We got to gimmick
it up a little bit to spice it up so
the fans now, not every fan wants a kickoff where
(08:39):
you don't have anybody actually returning the ball and you
got guys lined up like a high school or like
a seven man football league.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
So I love football. It's not the same.
Speaker 6 (08:48):
But the thing that gets that when we got analysts saying, hey,
outlaw too high safeties, immediately you're thinking, somebody actually believes
us with football, and if football's created that if what
we're doing with rules is created, guys say, eliminate certain defenses.
We've already made it. If you can't score in the
NFL with these rules, if you get shut out in
(09:10):
the NFL, you've had a crappy week. Yeah, yeah, it's
just it's frustrating. So sometimes I try to give it.
And now you know why? You know why?
Speaker 7 (09:19):
For me?
Speaker 6 (09:21):
Let me ask you this, when's the last time you
sat down and watched a Monday through Saturday? I mean,
aside from college game day or a pregame studio show.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
I don't even enjoy college game day anymore. I know
why too. Yeah, I'd like to know who gives you
when you enjoy?
Speaker 6 (09:36):
Like on a Wednesday, do you ever sit around and
watch a full studio show anymore?
Speaker 8 (09:41):
No?
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Not anymore?
Speaker 8 (09:42):
Have you?
Speaker 6 (09:42):
When's the last time you said down to watch forty
five minutes of a studio show on a Wednesday? Fox?
Speaker 5 (09:47):
When's the last time?
Speaker 8 (09:48):
Long?
Speaker 5 (09:48):
And there's good?
Speaker 6 (09:49):
I mean.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
The sad thing.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
About it is there's a handful of analysts like, what
are you saying? They're getting paid huge money. It's fine,
I don't care about their wallet, but getting paid stealing money?
They're stealing money for the most part, yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
About half of it.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
They're working for the other half, they're just throwing stuff
against the wall and some people are sitting back there
letting it stick because it clicked, even if it's not right,
and you know it's blatant, and you know it's just
to get clicks. They encourage it and they'll run it
fifty times a day. So when's the last time? I
can't remember it? And you love sports, and so do I. Yeah,
you know what, I haven't watched the Manning cast that's
on a Monday night and that's for a game. I'm
(10:21):
not talking about pregame show, Charles Barkley in that and
Hart Street in that group, TNT basketball all that.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yeah, when's the last time? So I I really enjoy
Charles Barkley.
Speaker 7 (10:32):
The guys.
Speaker 6 (10:32):
I'm talking about studio show like during the day, yes man,
or at night that night when you're at seven o'clock
on a Wednesday night or ten o'clock sports centers on
when you listen there watching the entire sports center. Man,
when's the last time you watched a studio show, a
football studio or baseball sixty minute studio show from start
to finish.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
It's been years, you know, I.
Speaker 6 (10:52):
Went the last time I did? And it's honest to
God true, that's exactly right. Not that it matters who
cares people do, but because you know why, it's not
because I wish it, because some of them I learned from.
But I'll just go and watch to see their Twitter
or watch a clip of it, right because you know, well,
you know why I don't, because fifteen minutes of just
(11:13):
clickbait crap ruins it for the guys who actually tell
us good stuff.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
Because I don't know.
Speaker 6 (11:17):
If you told me every day that some guy's coming
out of Talk Great Football or basketball or baseball gonna
teach me hitting or whatever it is for ten minutes,
and I could know exactly what time of the show
it was going on, I have no problem to it,
especially if you tell me who the guy is teaching it.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
What's the show the new one that we have on
here on FS one sometimes with Mark Slare.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
I don't even know, I can't remember the names.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
And Danny Dorkins, Yeah, yeah, Parkins, Yeah, Dorkins, the new
show that they've got. If we didn't have sports Radio,
that would probably be a show that because.
Speaker 6 (11:47):
I know who Schlaire it is. I've known Parkins a
long time and at least there's some spice too. But
I already know when I'm getting good football talk. Well,
he's his offensive line player opinion. I know what I'm
going to get from him. Yeah, because he gets it.
And he would never stand up there say outlaw cover two. Yeah,
it's stupid. And if that'd be like in baseball saying
you can't throw a fastball, yeah, if you, if you had,
(12:07):
I enjoyed it. You can't throw a curveball because it's
the off speed stuff his own defense, you can't throw
Can you imagine telling telling the guy you can't throw
a slider?
Speaker 5 (12:14):
Yeah, don't you want the hitter to hit it?
Speaker 9 (12:15):
Right?
Speaker 6 (12:15):
You only get two pitches, you can't throw three. Yeah,
and if you do, it's an automatic ball against you,
or it's an automatic runner the base. The runner gets
to go to first base. Can you that's what we're
doing in the NFL. It's crazy, it's an embarrassment. It's crazy.
And they're going to collect a check. And I don't
care how much money they're getting they're stealing. Shouldn't pay
them five bucks if they're going to talk like that,
because that's just absurd.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Baseball tonight used to be one of my favorite shows.
No doubt that in years, No Day was awesome. Well
when he had John Kruck on it. Yeah, Crucker it last.
Speaker 6 (12:41):
Yeah. It's okay to laugh when you do an analysis.
I don't mean laugh at saying stuff for you. Some
of the I guarantee they walk off the set say, man,
hopefully that got him. You say this, and I'll say
that it's absurd.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Didn't they just straight up get due away with baseball tonight? Anyways?
I don't mistaken right.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Yeah, if you want your pregame baseball stuff in MLB network,
I like, and I like what Robert and Lauren Shahati
over network.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
They've got good ans because the good stuff.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
Talking talking the right stuff. And like I said, there's
a lot of good ones. It's sad because in life
we allow the the ones that muddy the water and
say stuff that You're like, that's my friend, But you
can't believe that.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Of all that, you cannot believe.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
That, especially a guy that just does analysis on top
of analysis on top of analysis.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
He's been doing it for forever, and I want to talk.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
I was like, there is no freaking way he believed.
Speaker 6 (13:31):
Dude, that dude, he I was I was gonna call him.
I say, said, you need to get in the middleistitude.
I know, dude, And then he turned and looked at
he said.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
I We'll ask you a couple on my evage. I
was classic.
Speaker 6 (13:42):
But it's just I don't I feel bad for the
fans because you know what you fans are. You're not
getting what you deserve on television and or not. And
I'm not saying all the way Herbstreet gives me great stuff.
I think. I think Desmond Howard does a good job.
You go Barkley and that group they do they they
do a great job. But it's the ones that in
you instantly. The show loses credibility when one one just
(14:05):
constantly spews diary out of their mouth, yeah, just to
make sure.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
People are talking about them. It's an embarrassment. It's pathetic, massads,
it's crazy. Something that's not sad. These astros won last night.
John Singleton had himself a night. We'll discuss the next
on Sports Talk seven ninety. Fellas, you're feeling sluggish, you
got brain fogged, feel like you've hit a wall or
a plateau in the gym and you just can't get

Speaker 3 (14:32):

to six low T is the number to call. Fellas
I went through what you're going through starter feeling the
benefits after just a week or two.
Speaker 5 (15:45):
It was incredible change my life for the better.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
So trust me when I tell you you need to
get to Men's T Clinic and get this taken care
of Men's TA clinic dot com. Tell them that Brian
Lilima sent you on this high fastball mice P Callers
to you, in your view is just an Astros You're
listening to Shawn Salisbury on Sports Talk seven nights.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Callers, how about the performance your home for Houston Astros baseball?
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Just like Roberts said, that magic number down to five
because the Mariners. Have you seen how embarrassing the Mariners
have played against the Yankees this past couple of days, Sean.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
I've watched bits and piece.
Speaker 6 (16:21):
I haven't watched a full game with them with my
being in class for eight hours a day.
Speaker 5 (16:26):
But I mean they are.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
They are playing like little league style baseball against the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
The Mariners are.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
You see how Julio Rodriguez got picked off a third
two nights ago. Yeah, after Randy Roserena let go of
the bat.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
Yep, there's that.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
And then last night runner at second, I think early
in the game, runner at second for the Mariners, nobody out,
ground ball, routine, ground ball, hit the shortstop. What does
the runner do? Probably should look at the baseball and
then go back to second. No, he takes off, gets
thrown out at third. And then there's another sing instance
later in the game, big moment. Dude gets picked off,
(17:01):
like just the most basic stuff.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
And they're just and they actually won, they won yesterday. Yeah,
but they're they're there, but they're they're fortunate to win
because they're not playing great baseball. But they're not winning
the division. It's just not gonna happen. So the pitching
is too good. And Kakuchi was lights out again last
night because ninth strikeouts was you can make the argument
he's pitching as well as anybody on the staff. And
(17:23):
that's Fromber and Hunter Brown. Nice decision to have to
make with those three. But any way you want to
interchange them, those are your three guys, make me, make
no mistake about it. In a short series, those are
those year you run those three out first. So but yeah,
they've they have played, they have They have beat themselves
a lot this year, they really have. And with a
ten game lead, maybe they got too comfortable and said,
(17:45):
oh man, also we got to do is play par
baseball the rest of the way. And they didn't. And
even if they would have, they'd have been they'd have
been you know, run downs.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
Yeah, and then their hitting coach and they're.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
Still I mean, they're gonna they're gonna make the playoff
unless they fold up their tent and go home. But
they're gonna make past or just not winning the division.
So but how about Otani's game last night. Actually, Mariners
are falling back, They're they're two back of the wildcard.
Now the Tigers are in a tie with wins in
the wildcard. That's right, because I didn't even look at Minnesota.
Minnesota jumps ahead of ahead of the Marinders. The Mariner's
(18:19):
got to go in and go and and win and
hope that they get a little help.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
But they're not winning the divisions. Look at the look
at the Tigers.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
I know, Wow, it's a pretty impressive second half run
for them and a good and they know once they
get in with that pitching staff, they can win an
early series. You know, yes, is unbelievable. Best, it's the
best single night by a player. And now maybe it's
wasn't the World Series timing of a hitting where you
(18:45):
walk off, But that was the best performance, hitting performance
you'll ever see. Ten RBIs, stole two bases, six for six,
drove in ten runs, hit three home runs.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
I mean, HiT's it was and it's not the last
time you'll hit three home runs in a game.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
The guy's fifty to fifty now fifty one fifty one now, Yeah,
it's well. Obviously the MVPs in both leagues are that
that that that's done, been done for a while. Otani
and Judge already hand him the award now and he's
doing this and next year he's gonna go win like
fifteen games and go fifteen and four as a pitcher.
(19:27):
You know what I'm saying. It's it's there's never been
a better all around player. Sorry, Babe Ruth, you can't
do the things that he cannot do the things that
Otani can do. I didn't watch him, I mean, I know,
paying I know, I didn't watch him in person. They
see Babe Ruth in person, he didn't know. Unfortunately. Yeah,
I didn't get to go go out and have a
cold beer with him after homeward two times in a game.
(19:48):
Babe Ruth, original did it all? Was picture all that phenomenal.
I know when we talked about Babe and the name
just fits right, But no offense, Otani is the best
all around player history of this game's ever seen.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Period.
Speaker 7 (20:03):
He just is.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
And there's actually actual talk that he might be able
to pitch in the postseason. Like give you some innings
out of the bullpen, right, great, and give you two
innings of one hundred miles an hour. Yeah, what a shock. Yeah,
it's not like the guy throws ninety and just his gout.
The guy throws a hundred yeah and hits it five
hundred feet.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
He's the little league shortstop that was better than everybody,
and he's doing it at the major But yeah, exactly,
stupid he's the he is the he is the eleven
you kid that hit puberty early, got to six foot
at twelve, You.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Dominated on the mound, dominated a shortstop, hit home runs.
And yet he just stayed the same and gott but
he got better and better and better. He wasn't just
the early bloomer, hit like eight twenty in little league. Yeah,
he was the early bloomer. But then he was the
best kid on his high school team, best kid in college,
best kid in the minor leagues. And now he's the
best freaking all around player in the big league. And
if he had grown up in the States, little league
parents would have hated him.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
What's that big guy? Check his birst short So he
can't be that good? You sure well?
Speaker 6 (21:01):
Nobody hits my boy like that.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Well he just did.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
He hits your boy when he was twenty five too, Okay,
So he's the old birth certificate guy, honest to god.
And then at every game it's like another home run,
another home run, another home run, fourteen right as the starter,
he's throwing seven no hitters this year in the Little
league and then plays shortstop and hits eight hundred. Okay,
So that's that guy, And all the parents are mad
(21:25):
at him, and he's the nicest guy, and all the
parents are mad at him because because they think the
parents are cheating. The first thing they'll say, twenty of them,
it's a it's it's it's our way in a little
league base Chuck's burstatute, you can't be that good. And
now go ahead and say it. Now, well, it's a
good laugh. Now, yeah, I am twelve. Yeah, exactly, that's right.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
You know the movie.
Speaker 6 (21:46):
Yeah, but he just DoD he he's doing it against
major league pitching. And then if he's pissed off enough,
he decaid, let me go pitch and strike the guy out.
That struck me out. I mean, it's it's it's it's
like you know that athlete when he's like nine or
ten or twelve, You're like, you go to high school
and like, oh, he bowls and rolls of two forty.
(22:07):
He goes and plays golf and after like three rounds
he's shooting seventy five. You know that guy.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
Yeah, that's so tawny okay on the baseball diamond. It's stupid, dude.
And you know what's crazy last night? Last night's performance
we almost expected Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:23):
Oh so if anybody else went six for six, three homeites,
ten are because I know they're going to make a
big deal. Be like, man, it's like, okay. My first
comment is when are we going to see it again?
Probably be from him, and we'll be sooner than later.
That's how good the cat is. Man sick, and he
also got away with sports gambling. It's crazy. Now, Well,
see that performance last night. There's the reason why you're
(22:45):
never gonna he's that's right, he's a sacred cow. You're
never going to touch him. I don't care if he
went up in front of the commissioner and say, hey, listen,
I'm betting on our team tonight. I didn't hear anything. Dude,
you hit sick. What would you do last night? I
drove in ten bet away.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
He was unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Ten RBIs, six for six, three bombs, two stolen bases.
I mean, come on, man, he was I think what's
his name, Joe Davis. He was on the call last
night and he was like, oh, yeah, he's a triple
away from the cycle, or a home run, a home
run away from history.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
What home run?
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Forget this, forget the cycle, give me the home run.
Speaker 10 (23:23):
Man.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
He is unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (23:25):
No fifty home run hitters had ever stolen more than
thirty bases in the same season until Shoho Tani. And
he just stole fifty one bags. Yeah, and he's a
big dude, and there's still some games left, right, how
about that? Though, I decided I don't want the cycle.
I'm just gonna go upper tank on this. I mean,
and he hit.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
I mean, there's some bombs last night. He doesn't get cheated,
does he.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
So it was top seven runners at second and third
with two outs, so there's a base open. Shoho Tani
comes up to the plate and they put the camera
on the Marlins manager, Skip Shoemaker, and uh, I guess.
He says something to one of his assistant coaches, and
you can read his lips. He says, f that I
got too much respect for this guy for that blank
(24:08):
to happen, because I wanted to put him on and
he was like, no, we're going to pitch to.
Speaker 6 (24:11):
Him, and yeah, you did, and there's the reason you
have respect for him. Yeah, guy just plays and goes in.
You can throw him a pitch anywhere and he hits
out of the ball.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Yeah, so I think he'd you know, good for Shoemaker
to know the know the moment, know the history and
the game and things like that. Say hey, we're gonna
take our chances.
Speaker 6 (24:29):
Well, listen, you're already you've given up fifteen runs at
the time or whatever it was, I'm scoring twenty.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
What's the difference in twenty and fourteen?
Speaker 6 (24:37):
Right? Still an ashen Yeah, you're getting your beat by
three touchdowns and a missed extra point.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Yeah, you gave up twenty seven.
Speaker 6 (24:43):
Some teams in the NFL to wish they had Otani
on their football team, right, just because they can score runs.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Seven one three, two, one two five, seven ninety is
the number to join. Let's look at you say Kakuchi's night.
He was dominant once again for the Astros. That's next
on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (24:59):
Is this me?
Speaker 5 (25:00):
It is count.

The Sean Salisbury Show continued. It is fight Song.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
Friday here on the Sean Southbury Show, Sean Broyn and Tripoli.
Astros beat the Angels last night, seven to ten. The
first pitch tonight six o'clock on Deck show right here
on seven on your home for Astros Baseball. Their magic
number five, Shohil Tani becoming the first fifty to fifty
player in Major League history. Fifty bombs, fifty stolen bases,
Texans and Vikings. This Sunday Jets beat the Patriots in
(26:56):
Thursday Night Football, I mean a night for the books.
Unbelievable from him, six or six, three bombs, ten RBIs,
two stolen bases.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
He went.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
He went from being a forty eight to forty nine player,
meaning forty eight bombs to forty nine stole a basis
to fifty one to fifty.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
One in one game. He is unbelievable. Believable, Yeah, pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Here is Joe Davis on the call for his third
home run of the night, watching this guy. Oh my gosh,
soy oh tony, the greatest day in bastical history.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
This is not real life.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
This is not real life. That was in Miami too.
Roar that crowd. Not a lot of people there, but
still that roar that crowd. For him to do what
he did last night, unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
Man, that's the best thing they've seen in a long
time baseball ballpark. So yeah, how could he not cheer
that guy? I'd be if if he would have done
that against the Astros, I'd be standing up to.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Yeah, he got to. You got to do more than
tip your hat. You got a curtain call, and he
got one last night in Miami. Yeah, I'd deserved it.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
I don't care if he's kicking the ashers ass to
excuse me to do what he did last night. That
is baseball history, no doubt. Seven one, three, five, seven
ninety is the number to join tripley. Can you punch
up Brad for me? I don't know what's going on
with this over here, Brad, Good morning.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
Hey, what's up my guys? Real quick?
Speaker 5 (28:36):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (28:36):
Heyes, anyway, Hey Sean, Look, we gotta you made the
statement that you know, babe, Bruce, take a seat back.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Look here's the deal you put babe, Ruth.
Speaker 13 (28:49):
We're talking the pictures.
Speaker 9 (28:51):
Mound was higher.
Speaker 14 (28:52):
It was harder to do what Babe Ruth did.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Bring Babe Ruth into this air and see what he does.
Speaker 6 (28:57):
I didn't say Babe Ruth wasn't great. I said he's
not so Toani's a. I said Babe Ruth was awesome.
Otani's a better all around player.
Speaker 14 (29:04):
He just yeah, but you're looking at technology now too,
You're looking at era. I'll give you the era, but
I'm not gonna I'm hard to put those guys that word. Then,
I mean Dave Ruthless doing cigars during the game, but
probably drinking brug out.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
I mean, I understand. I don't know TONI might have
been getting VAM gambling, who the hell knows.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
But I'm with you.
Speaker 6 (29:24):
I all respect for Babe Ruth. O'ton. Listen, if I
stood him both up together, say you pick one, all
pick the other. We're both gonna win. As far as
all around player, Babe Ruth could have played now and
Otani would have dominated.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
Then they're just that good.
Speaker 13 (29:37):
And let me ask you, DoD, I mean, come on,
you know, do you want to get it?
Speaker 15 (29:40):
Okay?
Speaker 14 (29:40):
If we're gonna go with the gambling, old Tani is
the picture taking a cut?
Speaker 5 (29:44):
Yeah, just to just pointing around.
Speaker 8 (29:46):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
I don't think he gambled. He probably knew. But yeah, man, hey,
y'all have.
Speaker 16 (29:51):
A good one.
Speaker 14 (29:51):
Man, it's been a while to talking to you.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Let's go this weekend.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
Appreciated, Brad, you said kakucci last night for the Astros
really good once again. The Astros are now uh at
in games that he starts, they are nine and oh
since that trade.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
Yeah, he's uh he's really good.
Speaker 16 (30:11):
Man.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Guy's a freak show.
Speaker 6 (30:13):
He just is. He came here, I mean, and if
he wanted to validate the trade for Dana Brown, he
sure as hell did.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
When's the last time you heard anybody say we got
screwed in the trade? You haven't.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
You haven't remember how we always say just wait, let's
let's judge it after we see what it looks like.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Yes, how's nine? How's nine wins?
Speaker 6 (30:33):
When the guy the guy has not that they have
not lost when he's pitched, Yeah, and he is lighting
people up.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
It's it's just it's been amazing. There there is not one.
Speaker 6 (30:43):
If you if you still wouldn't have made the trade,
then I suggest you take two weeks off and quit fandom.
Okay and Kakouchi, the Astros not only won the trade
in twenty twenty four, they dominated it. This is exactly
what they needed for another arm they just did. This
(31:06):
is exactly what they need.
Speaker 8 (31:07):
This was.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
Now, who knows what's going on in the postseason, but
I'll tell you he pitches like this. That's that's gonna
be really really good for the Astros. And as good
as those other three guys may be down the road,
not a one of them is going to contribute or
would have contributed like Kokuchi. No, from the day he
got here on this year in twenty twenty four. They
may all be great in their future, not a one
(31:29):
of them was going to help this team this year.
As much as Kakuchi.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Has six innings, five hits, one and run one walk
nine case.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
Listen, I know Dana doesn't come on here and brag,
but I can promise you he's got to be sitting
beaming every time Kokuchi goes out, and most people down.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Now the way that he's pitched so far, and again
we don't know what's going to happen in the playoffs,
hopefully he dominates there too. Now you got to think
about resigning him this offseason. Why would you not want
to bring back another lefty for your rotation. I don't
care how how many arms you're gonna have available come
spring training next year. With the guys that are coming
back from being hurt. He's going to get this guy
in your rotation.
Speaker 6 (32:06):
If they he's gonna get paid. Yeah, whether it's here.
So I'm telling you, somebody out there is gonna say
give me that. All they're gonna do there. They're even
gonna look at the past. They're gonna look and say,
let's what do you do with the astros on a
good team, and you'll jump all over him. I'll tell
you what he's created now is you're to the point
now it's just a rental.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Let's go with it this year. Then we don't care.
Speaker 15 (32:23):
Oh no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (32:24):
Now it's created a situation like we're gonna now now
you're going to be in a bidding war because there's
gonna be teams standing in the line to get him.
Speaker 7 (32:31):
Right.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
Yeah, get a left hander who's doing what he's doing.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
With a ninety eight mine hour fastball and change up
that drops off the table.
Speaker 6 (32:37):
And look look what he's doing with strikeouts to walks.
Now too, as he started to settle in, he's validated
it as a matter of fact, data and him probably
gonna spend Christmas together with their families after what he's done.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Impressive. Yeah, he's been. He's been lights out and again
you think about it. If they can, let's just say
they do resign him. You get a full off season,
in a full spring training with him and this Astros
pitching staff, meaning the coaches, whatever they've done to hell
him so far.
Speaker 6 (33:02):
Come on, man, he's somebody else's ace, oh for sure
out here, but he is. You throw him in a
bunch of other cities. He's your ace. Yeah, man, what
a what a? But you know what other teams you know,
then you start say.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
Okay, Boston, Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers all going to jump into
the fray, you know what I mean? They just will.
And I don't blame him.
Speaker 6 (33:23):
The question is now, it's to the point if he
keeps pitching like this and the assles afford him, there
you go. Or will they want to you know, pay
him to afford him? But he has been If this
goes on to a World Series and he's a big
part of it and pitches great in the postseason, this
will be one of the great well it will remind
you of the Verlander time.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
Yeah, that's what it will remind exactly. It's a really
good point.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
In September, September morn we dance all that became a
brand new day tomorrow. So you remember twenty first night
September concerts. Today's twenty twenty first. We're not gonna be
able to play that cut. Should be a party at
the crib tomorrow, do you Michigan?
Speaker 5 (34:06):
Whoa what is it? I think that's a two thirty.
I think it's yes.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
My my bandy doos scout team is our first tournament's one?
Good luck eight am?
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Eight am? Good luck eight am, first pitch? You're coming?
Uh no, why not? I love you, but I'm I'm
I'm I'm good.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
So you'd rather watch Pat McAfee take a shirt off
and feed a steak to next.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Saying they come support me.
Speaker 6 (34:26):
I may believe I'll support you anytime, but tomorrow I'm
probably gonna be sure gast and I've been all week.
By the way, yeah, by what by the way, Hey,
what's what's he saying? We know what's he saying? Your boy, Biden?
Would you say that that, first of all, it's not
my best. That's actually Tripley's boy. Oh yeah, sure it is.
(34:47):
And now I can mediate. Now I can mediate triple D.
Now that's nice all the week. You know what I'm saying, I.
Speaker 5 (34:54):
Get to mediate. You really slid that in there, you
know your boy Biden?
Speaker 6 (34:57):
Yeah I do, boy, But I can mediate now. So yeah,
mediate these nuts for it immediately.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Oh yeah, our guy Phil phil phiil Phil, the one
that calls us from his office, he said, uh, basically
yesterday on the call, he said that to the guys
that try to call us and get us on these nuts,
and he said, I want you, I want them to
know they can fill these nuts.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
That's right.
Speaker 10 (35:26):
I was.
Speaker 5 (35:27):
I was almost brought my certificate him, just aware it
on my back. Take it to my back.
Speaker 7 (35:32):
You know.
Speaker 6 (35:32):
One of those guys is the excel sir, you know,
like you wear your own jersey, Sean, what's that? Well,
that's my that's my certificate that I'm now a mediator.
So yeah, who would do that?
Speaker 5 (35:46):
That's pretty cool man. I just just you know, I
guess they told me. The more you can do.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
But it's it's nice, you know, and you learn a
lot about you learn a lot about sitting in the
middle and when we do, and then the thing about
the class. You're doing a lot of mock media mediations,
and some of them are harsh accident. You know your
your mock and you're reading and as the mediator, you
don't know the information going in and you got to
get the information both sides and ask opening and questions
(36:12):
and then make a decision. And you know, we're talking
about child protective services and family and different types. And
I'm sitting there thinking, I go in there in one
fam I mean your you are thinking when you first
go in there, one family, you know somebody's doing something
wrong to a child, right, the other somebody's complaints.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Like how do you to stay neutral?
Speaker 7 (36:30):
Right?
Speaker 6 (36:30):
Because that is your job as a mediator. You can
you can't, but you cannot play faith. And when you
first go in there, you're like, you want to just
jump through. Stay Now I'm turning to lawyer, what are
you doing?
Speaker 9 (36:42):
Right?
Speaker 6 (36:42):
But that's why they do it, to stay out of litigation.
So yeah, man, it's a it's a pretty cool thing.
And you learn a lot too from some watching the
experts do it and then putting in you get a
little use in front of people. But now you get
people's lives in your hand, right, whether it's somebody's money,
a civil suit, somebody, you know, construction guys arguing with somebody,
a builder, whatever it is, right.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
Yeah, So yeah, it was pretty cool man.
Speaker 6 (37:03):
I'm glad I did it, and you know, just opens
up another opportunity and they got some great sports mediation
now company's got a great sports mediation company, which I
love too because and then you get to mediate contracts
in high schools.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
You know, maybe somebody's got a dispute.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
You don't like disputes, but you're there to hopefully come
to an agreement to cape out of court. So yeah,
and it was pretty cool yesterday, so Phil said Phil,
these dues. Yeah, that's good stuff man.
Speaker 4 (37:26):

Speaker 8 (39:20):
Tom good morning, Good morning, Brian, Good morning, Sean.
Speaker 6 (39:24):
How you guys doing doing great? Thank you?
Speaker 17 (39:28):
Yeah, me too, doing great.
Speaker 8 (39:29):
I just called. I wanted to hear something from you
guys about the tawny unbelievable feat that this guy has done.
As far as Dave Ruth in the mix, Hey man,
what this guy is doing. It's like, remember years ago
in the Little league baseball they had that left handed
kid that was older than everybody else. It's almost like.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
He's cheating Danny al Monte.
Speaker 8 (39:52):
Yeah, I remember that kid, but but it's like he's
he's he's just so much better than everybody else. It's amazing.
How I mean, what we're looking at here is something
that I could have never guessed anyone would do what
he did yesterday. It's just amazing. Hey, listen, I don't
want to rain on anybody's parade, and I don't want
a little bro anybody, but if I could, if I
(40:12):
could make a comment here, whatever happened to the SBI
investigation that took place at the beginning of the season
about you know, this money that was missing. Did they
ever put a period at the end of the sentence?
Did we ever get a story about any investigation? Or
am I wrong? Did I miss it? Because I don't
(40:33):
know if we've ever even got down that road.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Yeah, they closed the book on that real quick, Tom.
Everything was everything was his interpreter's fault, and they said
they did their investigation, they found that Shohal Tani did
no wrongdoing.
Speaker 5 (40:49):
Case closed.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
Tom, Why do you think even if the case was
not quite closed or if it was like wonderment, do
you think no matter what the do you actually think
you were ever gonna know with Otani?
Speaker 15 (41:00):
Of course not.
Speaker 8 (41:01):
I mean I think I think we talked about that
like like this at the beginning of the season, you know,
with Pete Rose and everything, like he said, you know,
if I had only had a an interpreter, I don't know.
It's it kind of it just goes to show us that,
you know, who knows what to believe anymore. And I'm
not trying to throw aspersions on him or say he's
(41:22):
guilty of anything, but it was something that they just
closed the door to put a padlock on it. And
we've never really heard anything about it. As far as
nobody's written a story. You know, no one's taking that
shot or something. I guess they don't want to lose access.
Speaker 6 (41:39):
I know it's kind of weird, but expected but expected.
Speaker 8 (41:44):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but expected. I guess it thinks what
are we going to do?
Speaker 13 (41:48):
Right?
Speaker 8 (41:48):
I guess we got to see this guy in the
world theory, Now, that's the best way to look at him.
Speaker 5 (41:52):
That's a good point.
Speaker 8 (41:53):
Let's enjoy what he's doing. And uh, you know, as
far as uh, it's gonna be a great weekend for
the Texans. I think that they'll get that fog out
of their heads supposedly that everybody thinks that there they
got question marks. And I'm not expecting them to go undefeated.
They are going to lose a game this year.
Speaker 18 (42:11):
Okay, But I don't know what you.
Speaker 8 (42:14):
Guys discussed about this little bro incident. I thought it
was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. I've never
seen or never heard that guy off in Chicago. I
never saw a number on his jersey or the name
on the back Bernstein. So I don't know it's just.
Speaker 6 (42:29):
Funny, stupid. That's that's that's just a narrative. That's somebody
chasing trouble. There was nothing wrong. It was nothing but
good advice from a guy who cares about another fraternity quarterback.
Speaker 5 (42:42):
That's all it was.
Speaker 8 (42:43):
Yeah, well, I'm glad that that's the case. We don't
need any uh, any controversy with with the hometown boys.
You've had enough of that with the asteroids. But anyway,
I just wanted to call and make a comment about
Otani and you guys have a great weekend and let's
go Baby.
Speaker 5 (42:58):
Appreciate you, welcome in. Appreciate it. Tom, good stuff. That's
don't a little broken. Tom's always good, upbeat guy. Yeah,
a lot of energy. Yeah, looks bro.

Speaker 2 (44:43):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
Ryan Lima, Go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
Let's see.
Speaker 4 (44:54):
Jose Al Tuvey, face of the franchise, spoke with Chandler
Room of the Athletic in regards to Alex Bregman. Alex
Bregman said to become a free agent once this season concludes.
Still no awfre Yette Sean asked Dana Brown yesterday. We
(45:15):
had him on yesterday at nine point thirty. If you
missed it, it's up on our blog at sports seven
ninety dot com. Dana Brown said they had a quick
conversation with Scott Boris when they saw him in Los
Angeles when they were playing the Angels last week. No
sense urgency right now. They're gonna address it once the
season comes to a close.
Speaker 5 (45:36):
Well. Al Tuve.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
Spoke with Chandler Rome on the record and said, quote,
I don't see any chances of him leaving.
Speaker 5 (45:45):
That might be just me.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
I really think that at the end of the season,
our front office, people, GM and ownership are going to
get a deal done for him.
Speaker 5 (45:52):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
I'm sure that we are not only a better team
with him, but we are a better organization with him.
We really need to make it happen. He also went
on to say, quote, I don't have control. But if
I could, I would just pay Greggy whatever he wants.
His professionalism is a desire to win, his desire to
get better at the stage he is. He's a superstar
that's really hard to find. You don't find a lot
(46:13):
of guys trying to get better like he does every
single year, every single day.
Speaker 5 (46:17):
We really need to reward guys like him. End quote.
Speaker 6 (46:22):
I think at two Alex Bregman and his game, I
think so yeah, you know, I think he echoes what
a lot of people feel. Right and and now I
don't know, and pay him what he wants. I think
we're all that'd be great, but I don't know if
if that's how the front off is gonna go about it.
But you know he's got if you want to milk,
you want to squeeze, the turn up for everything it's got.
Speaker 5 (46:43):
He got the right agent.
Speaker 6 (46:45):
Yeah, and I I'm sure they'll sit down and take
care of whatever they got to take care of. But
in truth, other teams are gonna jump into You're gonna
be the longer you wait, and I know they were
gonna wait, and he's gonna hear him out obviously, especially
if he wants will be here. But you are going
to there's going to be temptation because somebody else is
going to offer more money. Yes, the question is will
(47:07):
he take it and how much more? But it'd be
great to have him here, keep the core and that infield,
and then you know, I still believe in the off
season they're going to go try to get a first basement. Oh,
Singleton did a great job last night. Deserves I'm not
talking about from the Astros. Probably deserves more respect about
his game. But he's good to have on the roster.
But I still think they want a guy they can
(47:28):
plug in a buck fift one hundred and fifty a year. Yeah,
I think so, and I think that'll be it. I
think that'll be an off season priority.
Speaker 5 (47:36):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 6 (47:36):
You know what they don't have in the off season,
a priorty, a starting pitcher. They just got to get
their own healthy. Now, the priority is can you keep
Kakuchi here? But yeah, obviously al two VA's around Bregman.
They've been in this thing together for a while now.
If you want the core your team to stay and
stand pat, you're gonna probably have to pay a little more.
Speaker 4 (47:55):
Yeah, And you don't really hear from hose Al two
vay much outside of like after the game, post game, Yeah,
postgame media availability.
Speaker 6 (48:04):
I'm all for a guy who I'm all for a
guy When you rally, it's around your own teammates and
you champion their cause. He's just validating what I'm sure
that everybody in the organization feels and fans in this city.
The question is why you're validating it. I mean, they're
gonna listen, but there will be a breaking point if
they don't get him. There'll be a point where if
they're not offering the money that he wants, and somebody's
(48:25):
offering three more million a year for eight years, it's twenty.
Speaker 5 (48:28):
Four million dollars, He's gonna take it. Yeah, It's just
he usually comes down to money.
Speaker 6 (48:31):
Now, half a million bucks a year over the course
of four extra years, that two million he'd probably make
that and endorsements locally here from heb Okay, So I
don't he probably doesn't, you know, But if it's blown
out of the water, if somebody comes in put it
this way, if a team like the Yankees or Red
Sox or Dodgers want to do it bad and I'm
just Philip, you know, I'm saying Philadelphia. Or I'll tell
(48:53):
you who's going to need a third baseman a team
in the division. The Seattle Mariners. Oh, they could use
a guy like Bregnant with the right handed bat, that
whole thing. So somebody's going to come in. And if
somebody wants to come in that can and pay an
exorbitant amount of money, they can, and plenty of them do.
The question is how much more and words Bregmann's stance
(49:14):
on is it money alone? I don't think that it is.
With him, LSU guy local here. Everybody loves him. But
there is a point when in negotiations, when you're for
every for every one of us, that somebody makes it
difficult for you to stay in anybody's job.
Speaker 5 (49:32):
If somebody I tell people this all the time.
Speaker 6 (49:34):
If you're a construction company, or let's just see, you're
a doctor and you're here in which we've got a
great medical city, but all of a sudden, Mayo Clinic
in Arizona decides to offer you, or Mayo Clinic in
Minnesota decides to offer you a million dollars extra to
be the chief of staff. And you're and you're the
(49:57):
chief here, but it's a million more. Guess what you're doing.
You're going to the way most people now there means
some who's got it set to stay, his kids are
in school, is not leaving. It's not about the money.
But for the majority of people that somebody offers you
a radio job in Pittsburgh for a million more than
you're making here, yeah, sorry, but I'm gone right as
(50:17):
much as you love the show, and who would blame you?
Speaker 5 (50:20):
So you know, I mean we all feel that way.
But if it's close, you're always going to.
Speaker 6 (50:24):
I mean, I've been in a situation time before where
an opportunity came up, but I did not want to leave,
and it was more, it was double, and I wasn't
going to do it because I'd like this a handful
of years ago, right, So it it happened, and that's
mere pittance. But it's all relative to anybody's job. You
when POC you can't be bought.
Speaker 5 (50:45):
Some can. Some can.
Speaker 6 (50:47):
I don't mean it morally bought, but some can. Most
of us can two million more than what you're making.
If you're a chief of staff at a dog and
it's for a five year deal ten million dollars, you're
more than likely taking as much as you love your community,
you'll say I'll keep my house, I can come back
to my community. Yeah, that's how players feel. So it's
not a matter of loyalty, it's a matter of common sense.
If it's close, I expect Bregman to stay. If somebody
(51:09):
blows him out of the water and makes it too
hard for him to stay, then he'll go play baseball
somewhere else.
Speaker 5 (51:13):
In my opinion, I just I.
Speaker 4 (51:16):
I look at the contract offers that they have given
to like Korea was, in my opinion, of slapping the face,
and then you look at Springer kind of a slap
in the face as well. Make a competitive offer, Tlex Bregman.
Just make it competitive and if he and if he
chooses to go somewhere for a couple more million bucks,
then okay, thank you for your thank for everything you
(51:37):
did for this organization. But if it's something like you're
offering him twenty million a year, oh you know, like
he's gonna leave. Yeah, he's gonna leave. But I'm just
saying make it.
Speaker 6 (51:45):
Just make it competitive, because he's gonna make between I
would say between twenty five and thirty thirty. Right, and now,
if Alex Bregman wants to be the highest paid third
basement in baseball, He's not gonna be here, no, no,
And I don't know if anybody's gonna pay him to
make him the highest paid third basement in baseball. But
if he's paid in that top three, top five, guy,
(52:07):
whatever you feel, you know, somebody, if it only takes
one in an organization, will love you. And if that
happens to be a front office guy, guess what, you're
in good shape.
Speaker 7 (52:14):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (52:15):
So if he's the third highest paid third basement at
twenty eight and a half or twenty nine, whatever it is,
that's fair. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:23):
Plus you get to stay here. Your family's from here,
meaning your wife. Your wife went to a high school
right down the road, and you got every new bit here. Yeah,
child's young, So it's it's you just got to make
the decision. But any of us you're making it, put
it this way. Make it too hard for him to leave,
don't make it too easy for him to walk. Yeah, exactly,
(52:44):
that's it's that simple. Yeah, half a million, like two
million over the course of eight years. You'd be like,
why would you leave for that?
Speaker 6 (52:51):
Especially if you go to a place that's not as
competitive as it and you know, for the next five years,
they're still gonna win, right and so, and depending on
where he goes, and it's like, well, if he goes
to Philly, look they're gonna win. But if he if
he's there or goes to Boston, they may not win
as much as this team does. So but if you're
two million dollars over the course eight years, if he leaves,
and we'll be like, why would you leave for that? Now,
(53:12):
if it's two million dollars a year for seven or
eight extra years, Yeah, and you're pushing twenty million, guess what.
I'd look at him and say, you're you're you're dumb.
If you don't leave, it's just it's you know, it's
business sense and it's common sense. And if they want
to keep it close and be in the negotiation, you
got to get close to matching it or and and
if you're going to test the hometown discount, but then
go ahead. My my sentiment is make your first offer
(53:37):
one that he says, now, that's what I'm talking that's
exactly what. Yeah, that's the last one right to where
he's like, because by the last one sometimes you're you're
offended or your your pride or I'm not saying, but
we all do well?
Speaker 15 (53:48):
Are you?
Speaker 3 (53:48):
Kids?
Speaker 6 (53:48):
Don't come here low ball me. I'm not a second
year guy exactly. That's and now the other thing I
will leave on disrespect in a heartbeat. Right, less money exactly,
that's what I'm talking Last money. You pee in my
face and tell me it's raining and say we love
to have you, but we're paying you six million dollars
a year or less than somebody else. We're paying you
twenty one, and somebody else is paying another guy twenty nine. Yeah,
(54:09):
well a year over the course of seven six years,
whatever it is. Oh no, no, no, matter of fact,
I'm not taking your offer. I'm taking one less just
to prove to you you're not gonna do it, and
then I can't wait to play against you. Right, the
disrespect part will make guys leave for less. So make
the first offer fully matter of fact. I always say this,
(54:29):
if you know what's in house, make your first offer
offer somebody else would offer outside the building. You know
him better, so you know they make the offer, and
make the first offer. Say now that's respect. I'm listening more.
If you come in and lowball. A guy I'm the
type of guy says, you're you know what, You've already
slapped me in the face. So unless you blow the
(54:52):
then you reverse and say, now you're gonna have to
make me the highest paid guy at my position or
you don't got to sniff at me. And you know
to do is you know, make one phone call and
kind of get the idea and then come close to
it and then just players like to be respected, and
sometimes respect is more important than an extra dollar, but
disrespect will run you out of the building.
Speaker 5 (55:11):
Faster than anything. Yeah, make it competitive right out of
the gate. That's what competitive is is.
Speaker 6 (55:15):
Called might put competitive and respectful when it comes to
money or the offer in the same category respect, give
him that respect and if not, and if he leaves,
then he wanted to leave. Yeah, right, if you're close
and he wanted to leave, then he and it was
just about five dollars more than he wanted to go.
Speaker 5 (55:30):
I don't think that's who Brigmant is.
Speaker 4 (55:32):
I don't either. I don't think so either. Seven one, three,
seven ninety is the number to join. Let's get to

Michigan the number eleventeen. The USC trop just taking on
the number eighteen Michigan Wolverines. USC is favored by four
excuse me, by five points, So give me USC minus
five to beat Michigan. I don't think Michigan's offense is
very good. USC's got a pretty good offense. I think
they're gonna put up a ton of points and they're
gonna boat race Michigan.
Speaker 5 (56:14):
So give me USC minus five.
Speaker 4 (56:16):

say about it. Sean Salisbury continues on seven nineteen. All right, Sean,
what are you hearing out there now? The Salisbury steakouts
Salsbury takout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (57:54):
Stime for the steak out here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sean Brian at tripley seven one three went to five
seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (58:01):
Lets get out to the phone lines, Rob, good morning.
Speaker 19 (58:05):
Good morning guys. Hey, you know I'm gonna cover a
couple of things. Try and be quick for you, y'all.
I don't know if you guys remember or not, but
when that Kakuchi deal first went down and everybody in
Houston was not happy about it, I called you guys
the next day and I told you, I said, I
think this is the right move. We needed a starting
(58:26):
pitcher left handed preferably. We went out and got him
and we're gonna be just fine. Sean Brian. The next
time you guys have all one of y'all's conversations with Dana,
I'm gonna need you guys to put in a word
for me, because if he needs somebody else in that
scouting department, I'm happy to quit my job today. But
uh yeah, I also announced back though to this whole
(58:47):
old tawny deal man. I never thought i'd say in
my generation, because I'm pretty reserved when it comes to
making bold statements like this, But after last night's performance
and what he's done on the year, I've got to
say I've got zero hesitation to say. When it comes
down to if I could pick one player out of
all the players that have ever played the game, there's
not a doubt in my mind that when it comes
(59:08):
down to their prime, Otani doesn't have any competition. I
don't care how far back you go, I don't care
what you say, the availability of statistics, the training, the doctors,
the skill sets, the fields. There's nobody that's gonna match
up to what Otani has done in his prime. Longevity
may be the only question there. But when it comes
(59:30):
down to their prime and who's the best, not just
in our generation, but to have ever played the game,
Otani has reached the top of that mountain, and there's
nobody else that comes close to him. He's not sharing
that space with anybody. He's got it like that is
who he is. He's earned it, he's made it. He's
lived up to the hype, and he's gone above it.
As far as I'm concerned, and with that haven't been said.
(59:52):
I'm gonna leave you guys with a question. I'm curious
to see what you guys say. I feel like the
Dodgers have seriously got to start asking the themselves, are
we even gonna ever let this guy pitch again? I mean,
you get a you get a full season of this
guy's bat in your lineup, and this is what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
And I mean that was a mic drop of a
day yesterday for him to have done what he.
Speaker 19 (01:00:13):
Did, achieved the fifty to fifty club when he hit
that last home run. I mean, my batflip would have
just been a stand there and a mic drop with
that bat. But I'd seriously be asking in the Dodgers
organization or should we even bother letting him pitch? Like
we need to start having this conversation with him, like, hey,
we got you for the rest of your career. You're
gonna do nothing but enjoy that bench and swing the
(01:00:36):
bat for one hundred and sixty games every single year.
That's all we want out of you. You give us
this every year, you're not throwing another pitch, you know.
Having said that, he would be a nice sneaky little weapon,
because I have no doubt that if they needed him
in an emergency situation, they said, hey, tomorrow you're throwing.
But that's a that's a nice little piece for them
to be able to say. But I'd seriously be asking myself,
(01:00:58):
if you can give me ten more years of fifty
to fifty seasons, or hell, even come close to that.
Give me give me, you know, three years of fifty
to fifty seasons and seven more of forty forty seasons.
I'd seriously be asking myself. I don't want to risk
him blowing out his arm or anything else. He's doing
nothing but swinging the bat for.
Speaker 20 (01:01:16):
The rest of his career.
Speaker 19 (01:01:17):
Just curious what you guys might be thinking about that.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
Thanks guys, Thank you Rob Well against that was get
to Charles first, Charles, what's happening?
Speaker 7 (01:01:25):
First of all, I've pity the food. It doesn't try
the mister and missus Ta's vodka. But beyond that, beyond that,
I just wanted to say I had this conversation with
my family when Bernlander was coming up for his contract
as far as why would he leave when he had
all endorsements things of that nature. But I think the
Ashos have ran their business well, and I think they
(01:01:47):
have to have a reasonable point as far as Bregman,
because do y'all believe he's performed up to what their
expectations would have been for the for the season. I
think that's my primary question. I'd love for us to
keep on, but I don't think they should, you know,
sell the farm. I think they should keep running the business.
Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
As they had.
Speaker 6 (01:02:05):
Don't overpay, right, Charles, don't overpay, correct exactly, I mean
respectful pay, but don't overpay. Let me ask you, would
you make him? Is he the best third basement all
around in baseball? Would you pay him like that?
Speaker 12 (01:02:17):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:02:17):
I would not.
Speaker 15 (01:02:18):
Unfortunately no, I like him, but no fair.
Speaker 6 (01:02:20):
Enough appreciated Charles. Good stuff, Brian, real quick, and we
appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (01:02:25):
Rob, Thank you. Uh put it this way.
Speaker 6 (01:02:27):
I've watched Otani dominate as a pitcher as well. I'd
let him do both. I would let him do both,
and I'm not there yet. At some point in time,
the decision is going to have to be made and
in order for the lengthening of his career, it's swinging
the bat. There's no doubt that'll be when it gets
to the point you got to choose one or the other.
That's the one you're choosing, right Yeah, But right now,
he's too valuable of both. And it never it never
(01:02:48):
stopped him from swinging the bat, stealing bases, or or
or being successful on the mount.
Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
It didn't get in his way.
Speaker 6 (01:02:55):
A matter of fact, some said do them both, and
kind of you never get a chance to overthink it
while because you're going out and pitching, come back in
and hit and going out and pitching come back in.
And it's once every five days for him out of
the mound. So I'm not to the point yet of
I paid him a lot of money. I need his arm,
because in truth, if he did, if let's say he
just pitched and he was healthy, he's one of the
(01:03:15):
He's one of the best pitchers in baseball. He's a
cy young potential guy. Every year. I'm milking both out
of it now because the people have proven it. Even
if something's wrong with the elbow and go through like
Tommy John, he can still I mean, they can still
hit and they come back quicker.
Speaker 5 (01:03:30):
Right, We've seen this movie.
Speaker 6 (01:03:32):
So I'm all for I'm all for doing both for now,
as far as Charles real quick, Brian, and I want
to hear what you think about O.
Speaker 5 (01:03:39):
Tawny is.
Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
I would not overpay Bregman, but I'd make him respectful pay.
He's in the top three or four at that position, right,
and you got to pay him like it. But you
don't disrupt the business plan to overpay. You disrupt the
business plan to keep a guy and maybe pay more
than somebody else. But you can't get into a bidding
war where it's just thirty five million a year. And
the unfortunate thing for for Bregman and this is the
(01:04:05):
banged up been banged up. He's nobody works harder. Guy's awesome,
but being banged up in a walk here and not
having his best season at the plate. Put it this way,
he goes three twenty this year and hits thirty home
runs and drives one hundred and five, he would have
been paid like the best third basement in basement plus.
That's what I'm there's no doubt. And they're gonna the negotiation.
(01:04:29):
They Hey, listen, they may love him, but in negotiations,
guess what they use. The little stuff they all do,
they find the one thing you're not good at or
weak at or struggled at and they're gonna pin it
on you.
Speaker 5 (01:04:39):
That's the way it is.
Speaker 6 (01:04:39):
And then they're gonna hug you and the negotiates it
over and say great to have you back on the roster.
Speaker 5 (01:04:44):
But I don't know. I'm not gonna overpay him.
Speaker 6 (01:04:47):
I'll tell you what, if they're healthy, you probably overpay
the guy in right field next year, right, you might
have to overpay from but when his time comes around
to the way he's pitching. So I would make Bregman
a top three third basement paid wise, but I I
I can't pay him more than all of them. No,
I wouldn't think. Just make it like I said, I
think we competitive. Yeah, just make it competitive and fair man,
(01:05:09):
that's it. Top two, top three money.
Speaker 5 (01:05:12):
That's fair. That's fair.
Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
That'll that'll look like what twenty five, twenty six, Yeah,
and with the.
Speaker 6 (01:05:19):
Year twenty eight and a half somewhere it's twenty nine
top Yeah. I think anywhere between twenty seven and twenty
seven and a half to twenty nine million, depend depending
on the years. Right, I think that that's fair. Seven
and a half, five five years, six years.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Yeah, I think that's respectable and competitive as hell. Very
Matt Chapman got twenty six a year. Matt Chapman's like
multiple gold Glove winning third baseman. He is literally the
lone reason why Alex Bregman doesn't win gold gloves right
when Chapman was with Toronto.
Speaker 5 (01:05:49):
Yeah, and he's got.
Speaker 6 (01:05:50):
Power back when he I mean, and it's it's if
he comes in slots in salary around the third. You
know that that guy right there, that's fair. Devers is
gonna you know, Devers got pay he's getting and should so.
Then that he just got to be in that in
that ballpark, and then it's fair.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:06:06):
But if it gets to the point, well I want
thirty five million a year, if Boris is going there
for six years, too much?
Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
And also shoo Tani, Dodger are gonna let him pitch?
I would let him pitch as long as he could.
That dude is just different in the box as an
offensive player and on the mound.
Speaker 6 (01:06:22):
I'm not I'm not not pitching him right, He's pitching
until we get to a point where the decision does
have to be made. Yeah, right now, there's only one
decision in my mind. When he's healthy, pitches yeah, too good,
and they have enough pitching injuries.
Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
They got it. I can imagine if he was pitching
this year and fully healthy, save it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:40):
The they're pitching hit. Their pitching injuries is what's going
to keep them out of the NLCS this year. He's
a number the World Series. He's a number one in
your rotation. Yeah, on most teams in baseball, and he's
obviously the best player. Yeah, so you milk every ounce
of pitching he's got left. Damn Ryan, give a damn
about his Tommy Johnson or not.
Speaker 6 (01:06:59):
When when we wrap that arm up? Guess what when
that when he's done pitching, I'll get more years of
hitting out of him. And right now, right now, I
need both.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
You can get five six more years out of him
pitching and then just strictly DH.
Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
From there on out.
Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
Yeah, hit till he's forty, right, and he's gonna be
able to do it because he's that damn good.
Speaker 5 (01:07:12):
You ain't lying. He's unbelievable. He doesn't get cheat. He
didn't hit three hundred and twenty foot home runs.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
He's hitting. He's hitting, He hitting tank jobs. Yeah, there's
no cheapies with that guy, that's for sure. All Right,
let's let's switch our attention to football. Mel kiper junior.

Speaker 5 (01:09:01):
Who is this Tripley, Tripley? Who we got here?
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
This is Mississippi State, Mississippi State.
Speaker 6 (01:09:10):
Uh, Mississippi State.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
The Bulldogs not very good this year. The Bulldogs. Yeah,
they're not very good, not very good. Jeff Levy's learning
on a fly.
Speaker 4 (01:09:22):
There's no question about it. There's no question about it.
Seven one, three two, seven ninety is the number to join.
Astros beat the Angels last night, seven to ten. The
first pitch tonight, six o'clock on Deck show right here
on seven nine. You're home for Astros Baseball. We're gonna
talk football. Mel kiper junr Hey real quick. Hey, Carl, Carl,
you're live on air. Man got a question for you.
Speaker 17 (01:09:42):
I got a challenge.
Speaker 4 (01:09:45):
Well, hang on, Carl, Carl, hold on, hang on, man,
hang on. I know you like to call our producer
triplely and talk to him, but why don't you talk
to me and Sean? Yeah, and four or five times
the show?
Speaker 11 (01:09:54):
Come on?
Speaker 6 (01:09:54):
Now, you got a job to do it.
Speaker 17 (01:09:56):
Hold on, hold on.
Speaker 9 (01:09:58):
Just the last call of the month, so seasons almost
So I'm gonna challenge solves by. I want to challenge him.
Speaker 5 (01:10:05):
You better be prepared for the answer.
Speaker 9 (01:10:07):
Okay, all right, Singleton has come through over and over
and over two for three to hit the clutch run
last night brought him.
Speaker 17 (01:10:17):
Man, he does this all the time. Why it's a
big deal of just respecting this man.
Speaker 6 (01:10:22):
Over and over, not your sol Let me let me
ask you something. You said you were gonna call and
challenge me. You sound like a melk heiper tape. Let
me let me ask you something. Okay, you talked to
you talk Now I'm gonna moo mute now you said. Now,
now you're turned to listen. Okay, Carl, hold on, let's
shoe talk. Carl, you said it first. Off you listen
to the show. I know you do because you're sitting
on you call for Tripoli more than his mom does. Okay,
(01:10:46):
so that's one. Two is so get off his nuts
and let him do his job. That's number two. And
have the balls to come on here regularly because we
love you. But don't sit there, sit in some of
the green room while you're waiting to come on. Two
is you said you're gonna challenge me. Did you listen
or do we need to send you to an ear doctor?
Because one is that we said Singleton's oh no, no, no, no,
no no no, no, no, no no, put a muzzle
(01:11:08):
on it, bitches. Hold on, okay, listen, what did we
not say today? Singleton deserves more respect than he's been
given on the national ledge. Just when we did the chatter,
we said it, he's come through and he's a great
guy to have on your team. I said, I believe
the Astros are gonna go out and make first base
(01:11:28):
a priority and getting a big bopper there going to
getting a guy. That doesn't mean we don't like Singleton.
Matter of fact, we have said Singleton's earned the right
to be a first basement all year long until somebody
proves they could take it away. So what do you
what exactly are you challenging me on or are you?
Are you get two years in one mouth when you
call in here use them accordingly?
Speaker 5 (01:11:47):
What's up?
Speaker 17 (01:11:49):
I'm gonna give it back to you.
Speaker 5 (01:11:50):
Okay, please do.
Speaker 6 (01:11:53):
Here to do because if that was what you got
the first time around, it wasn't much. Okay.
Speaker 17 (01:11:57):
I was impressed with you last week. You gave the
man credibility.
Speaker 6 (01:12:02):
Did you hear today what we said about him?
Speaker 5 (01:12:05):
Or were you not listening?
Speaker 6 (01:12:06):
Hi?
Speaker 17 (01:12:07):
But always everybody's like, uh, trying to say we need
a first Yeah we do. He's an old guy. He's
thirty two years old. Okay, I know we need to
look out for the future. But the man, he gets
the clutch, hits, he gets on base. Who doesn't great?
Speaker 6 (01:12:22):
Who argued that?
Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
Who argued that? Who argued?
Speaker 6 (01:12:26):
Are you on his payroll? I mean you can you've
been You've been swinging from that for about fifteen weeks
now what I thought you.
Speaker 17 (01:12:34):
Were on Jeff Bagwell's payroll to death? Why I got mad?
Speaker 6 (01:12:38):
Ba Wait a minute, you got to no, no, no,
I don't know what's funny about that, but hey, hey,
let me ask you, Carl, what what?
Speaker 13 (01:12:47):
What?
Speaker 6 (01:12:47):
What was said? I want you because because you're because
you're listening to this show like you're on our payroll.
I'd like you. I'd like you to know. I'd like
to know what was said about? Are you just talking
to talk? Is that kind of if you want to
come on home?
Speaker 17 (01:12:59):
But listen. I know you're not on Jeff bag Wells payroll.
I know he didn't get to you. The more Singleton
looks good, the more the.
Speaker 5 (01:13:11):
Why would I be on Bagwell's pay well because pay pay?
Why Why would I be on his?
Speaker 6 (01:13:15):
Because I think Singleton's a really good player?
Speaker 16 (01:13:17):
But what you.
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
Talking?
Speaker 15 (01:13:21):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:13:21):
Here, here we go. I'm a football player. I'm a
that you know what football player. Then I can bring
you over. I'll teach you a little bit about baseball
because we probably need to have to have that conversation
because sitting and listen on your radio isn't enough.
Speaker 5 (01:13:34):
Okay, right there you go.
Speaker 6 (01:13:38):
You are going to get off without you and you
don't get to decide that we love you though, brother,
Now get the step in. Thanks geeze, Oh god, I
know stringing a sentence together is a tough thing in
the world, but good gracious.
Speaker 4 (01:13:55):
I mean, does he not realize how many times you
and I have both that Singleton is your starter for
the rest of the year.
Speaker 5 (01:14:02):
And that's that's my Well, you know, you're a football guy.
Speaker 6 (01:14:06):
Is so bad. Here's my favorite the foot the guys
who a guy who will call in or you'll see
once in a while on social media, well stick to
football or stick to baseball. When a football guy has
right yet he may have played it all his life,
been recruited by it, and the rest of it. Hence
that that that's where I come from, and I'm a
huge baseball fan, but were God, I don't need to
credentially explain it to Carl. Okay, who Carl, grab me
(01:14:27):
a gatorade anyway. But the thing that blows my mind
is I always love this one like a like a
guy on Twitter saying, hey, stick when you talk politics
or stick to football, and then you look at their resume.
Speaker 5 (01:14:38):
It's just some fan.
Speaker 6 (01:14:40):
I always love it, like, well, why is al Michael's
talking baseball covered? You know you'll hear that stuff about
a broadcast. But then the guy who's questioning, like Carl
never played it yet, he's the guy who sits it home.
And as a talking every day is allowed to tell
you stick to football, like like I'm a one year one,
(01:15:01):
right yeah right? And yet now if he was, if
that was Pete Rose coming on, Sean, let me handle
the baseball, the hitting part, to have that for people.
But my favorite is the guy who tells you to
stick to the sport never played any of them, as
if him sitting home reading the newspaper computer is different
than me and your good gracious wi football doesn't count,
(01:15:24):
all right, So, and you know it's funny.
Speaker 5 (01:15:26):
I love Carl.
Speaker 6 (01:15:28):
I love him, but but I love him, but like
I love mel Kiper, sometimes people say something stupid Carl. Anyway,
have a listen. We sat there, we've been saying the praisers.
All I'm telling you this is Dana Brown himself said
we'd love a nine hundred ops guy for a full season,
if it's not a disrespect to John Singleton. Singleton's come
the hard road. We love his story. He belongs on team.
(01:15:49):
But I just said they are going to look at
that position. And if you can't recognize that, then well
keep calling in so we can have a laugh at
your expense.
Speaker 5 (01:15:59):
But I do love Carl. I'm done he said, I'm freaking.
He said, you've been swinging off that thing for a while.
Speaker 15 (01:16:08):
He the news.
Speaker 6 (01:16:09):
He had been like he's been hanging on for dear life.
I mean, you'd think as much as I love Singletary, Singletary,
I love him too, Singleton, you'd think Mickey Mannle was
moved to first base from center field, and I like Singleton.
Speaker 5 (01:16:21):
Good gracious, Carl, Carl, car go smoke a grit. We
love you, though.
Speaker 6 (01:16:28):
We'll talk to you tomorrow because you'll be on hold
and we're not even here on Saturday, but I know
you'll call in.
Speaker 5 (01:16:33):
So good to talk to you, Carl.
Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
And again, for the nine millionth time, John Singleton has
done enough to be started the first year, and he
should start at first base throughout the playoffs, absolutely no doubt.
Speaker 5 (01:16:47):
And I don't remember. So I want to get it. Sean.
Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
You gotta challenge. You've got to bring more than that.
I want to challenge Salisbury somebody else. Triply You do
me a favorite handle my small stuff here? Yeah, man, tripley.
Speaker 5 (01:17:05):
What does he say to you when he calls you?
Speaker 6 (01:17:07):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (01:17:07):
You know, I just want to talk about Singleton.
Speaker 8 (01:17:10):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:17:10):
Those guys on air, they don't they don't give enough respect. Triple.
Speaker 6 (01:17:13):
That's about it. Yeah, here's the other thing I want
to show. I want Carl because Carl's a great Carl's
a great guy, but I need a little bit of
versatility from him. Yeah, man, call up and talk about
somebody else wants right, we know how you feel about Singleton?
Speaker 5 (01:17:27):
Okay, sing what do we call him? Singing? Yes, we know,
we know how you feel.
Speaker 6 (01:17:31):
Now, well, since you're in his kitchen, ask him, ask
him how the coffee tastes this morning?
Speaker 4 (01:17:37):
Okay, gracious, Brian will get to you. Katy, Brian and Katie,
we'll get to you next. Continue on right show. I'm
you're just a football guy. Oh god, yeah, I play wiffleball.
Speaker 5 (01:17:59):

Speaker 1 (01:19:30):

Speaker 6 (01:19:39):
This isn't at the home of the Jason and Jason

Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
Kelby is you know Travis Kelsey got cut from there
and Jason Kelcey was the one that convinced this coach
to bring him back.
Speaker 6 (01:19:48):
Pretty good, good good to move by the coach to
bring him back.
Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
Also, did you see Jason Kelcey on a hip party
and his ass off last week? Is that at the
Continent where he's dancing and he's in the he's in
the velvet track suit. Oh yeah, Oh, it's phenomenal, classic
the big when the big fellas are having fun, you
gotta love it. Yeah, I love those offensive linemen.
Speaker 5 (01:20:08):
Good for him.
Speaker 6 (01:20:09):
He's uh, he's like the when you look at an
offensive lineman, he's like it on a center, a grinder,
loves to have fun, goofy but has fun. Everybody loves him.
Got a great personality, you know, it's just he's a
he's cool. Anyone was the hell of a player.
Speaker 5 (01:20:23):
So it's fun.
Speaker 6 (01:20:24):
And Carl Carl called me, Carl, thank you. We love
you too, Dude, you don't have to apologize for a
stupid take. I we love Carl and we're glad he
listens and it makes for good makes for good fun banner.
I mean, you know, sometimes you overload your mouth if
you ask every now and every now and then. We
love having Carl Audi. It's it makes for good fun, laughs,
a good banter. Oh I needed that laugh, I really did.
Speaker 5 (01:20:47):
Hey Carl, you put mustard on my sandwich. Oh rada mustard.
Speaker 6 (01:20:52):
Carl had an extra piece of cheese my sandwich. When
you before you're done making it and bring me a cigarette.
Speaker 5 (01:20:57):
You know we love Carl. Carl Carls what you love
some singleton? You want a Virginia slim? Yeah, give you.
Speaker 6 (01:21:02):
I want a cool I want to burn a cool smoked,
some smoke rigs. Hello, Carl's Carl's great. We're really glad.
He it makes for good fun. Oh yeah, let's see.
Let's see what Brian's got. Hello Brian, good morning, Good
(01:21:23):
morning guys.
Speaker 21 (01:21:24):
Hey Newport over cool Holliday. First off, since we added
that piece that.
Speaker 6 (01:21:28):
Little Newport, maybe maybe a Virginia Slims. Maybe came crush black.
Speaker 21 (01:21:34):
Coffee, black coffee, morning breeze front Port.
Speaker 6 (01:21:38):
Oh yeah, I'll tell you what black coffee. No, you
didn't brush your teeth, Yeah, a little grit. If that
ain't some black coffee, then go French your wife. If
that ain't.
Speaker 5 (01:21:49):
If that ain't.
Speaker 4 (01:21:51):
If that ain't the American dream. If that ain't the
American dream, I don't want it.
Speaker 6 (01:21:54):
And maybe throw a little onion on your omelet in
the morning and then go French or yeah, that's home.
Speaker 5 (01:22:00):
That'll make it horning.
Speaker 17 (01:22:01):
Ok.
Speaker 21 (01:22:05):
Hey, guys, let me try to help Carl, if I
may finish his sentence. We're talking about. What I think
Carl's trying to say is Crane. Obviously none of us
are on his payroll. But I think what Carl's trying
to say is if Crane would or Espota would run
(01:22:29):
singing as we want to try calling him out every day,
first base is cover. Take that money, take those unrealized
games and savings, and put those towards Tucker and Bragman.
I think if you go and try to get Alonzo,
who's a twenty to thirty million dollars a year first baseman,
(01:22:52):
great fighting dandy, you're gonna get that production. However, if
you run Singleton out there full time, I think we've
seen enough at bats at this point where if he
got those six hundred at bats, he would be a
twenty to twenty five home run a year guy. I
think the data is there to justify that at least,
(01:23:16):
and you take that money that you would not spend
on Alonso and put it toward Crane's a businessman, Crane
doesn't love to overpay. This sounds like a recipe he
made for Crane. That That's what I wanted to try
to see if get your thoughts on that, Like you know,
Singleton twenty twenty five, run the experiment at the very least,
(01:23:40):
and they ain't going to cost you twenty five additional million,
and put that money towards Bregman and Tucker and and
and come out you know.
Speaker 6 (01:23:50):
A winner, Brian great stuff.
Speaker 8 (01:23:52):
I got that on it.
Speaker 5 (01:23:53):
Yeah, I think that's argument. Yeah, I think they're still
going to go.
Speaker 6 (01:23:57):
Look now, may not be p a Lonzo, but somewhere
you know, what's the what's the first basement?
Speaker 5 (01:24:05):
Is it Vaughn? Where am I thinking? Where's he playing?
Is he a white sock? Is he a white sock?
I'll find it?
Speaker 6 (01:24:13):
Hang on, But you make believe he is well, yeah,
I mean he's a former top five pick about three
or four years ago, and he's got pop and the
rest of it won't cost you ped Alonso money. But
you make a great point on the on your call that, yeah,
if you want to if you're trying to take one
on Vaughan, there you go.
Speaker 15 (01:24:32):
Is you.
Speaker 6 (01:24:35):
You if you're trying to shift money, you know, like
the little chess pieces, right, Rob Peter to pay Paul.
That's a great point, and from is gonna get you
need to get paid to But if you say, okay,
is this is it a weakness? The answer is no.
Is it exactly what you want? The Vlad Guerrero, Peter
Alonzo power, He's got power, but the consistent probably not,
as he lies somewhere in between. Right, great story that
(01:24:57):
a great teammate come through Clutch did yesterday as well
last night. You're one hundred percent correct, and that may
be the strategy. I don't think they're gonna beg borrow,
cheat and steal for a first baseman. I do think
they're going to inquire and if it's worth it, they will.
And that doesn't mean Singleton. You know, John Singleton's not
on this team. But the perception of I think age.
(01:25:18):
You start to think, well, he's not old, but you
start to think, well, we get a younger body to
groom or to have there so we can grow into
our organization.
Speaker 5 (01:25:25):
How much.
Speaker 6 (01:25:26):
You know how much control do we have over all
those things that come into play. But listen, if you say,
spend all your money in a first basement and lose
Tucker or Bregman, I'm not in with that. If you
say Singleton or go get somebody else, I don't have to.
And if it's Singleton you say, I'm gonna make sure
that the right fielder and third baseman don't leave, I
get it. I get it.
Speaker 5 (01:25:47):
You keep two for one and then Singleton Singleton.
Speaker 6 (01:25:50):
Anybody that labels him a weakness, it's it's a disrespectful,
unfair comment. Yeah, so it's a it's very valid. I
still think that they are going to go inquire.
Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
I just do.
Speaker 6 (01:26:01):
Everybody's looking to inquire about making their their roster. Bet hell,
they've got to go out and look at third base
just in case. They got to protect themselves. What if
Bregman does leave because somebody way overpaid him or or
got him what he wanted. I don't mean overpay got
in what he and Boris wanted, And you got to say, okay,
now we got to shift our energy to there. If
you don't plan on playing a guy like Dubond, theyrere
(01:26:21):
one of these young players on a regular basis, right,
what is it Shay whom Yeah, Whitcomb. I mean, depending
on what you want to do. But John Singleton has
made a leite. He's made in an effort and made
posted enough, not only in the respect of playing now,
but if they don't go to come back to spring
training with a legitimate chance to be the guy, unless
(01:26:44):
they go pay twenty five million for a first basement
and then then you'll know the answer roster spot. But
he won't be starting. But you can do a lot
worse than John Singleton and what he's done. And I
I'm all for it if that's what you want to do,
as long as you don't lose. If you if you
don't get a first base and Ann you'll lose Bregman,
then then something's wrong here.
Speaker 4 (01:27:00):
If you use both corner infielder, if you are going
to make a hard push to try to re sign
Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker, well then you can't afford
to go get out a big quote unquote big boxer
or one of that.
Speaker 6 (01:27:12):
So then let John Singleton run with it for this year.
He's earned that right, absolutely. He's plagued he's and he's
in God bless him.
Speaker 4 (01:27:20):
Yeah, absolutely, there's no question. Let's get into the eight
o'clock hour. I need a new vehicle, shan, Where.
Speaker 8 (01:27:24):
Do I go?
Speaker 6 (01:27:25):
Classic Chevy, Classic Chevy Sugarland, Classic Chevy Sugarland dot Com
prices inventory customer service prices in inventory customer Service. They
do great stuff over there, the staff, the people. When
you walk in. You want to feel comfortable. Sometimes it
can be really uncomfortable going into dealerships. We've all been in, Uh,
we've all been in dealerships enough times to know that
(01:27:49):
with its whether you're no matter how you addressed, how
you look, that people will treat you different. Oh they're
not here to spend money, and you don't get the
customer service you deserve. You're spending money. I don't care
if it's ten bucks. You deserve the same customer service.
Is a guy who's treating spinning seventy grand. It's just
the way it works. And if you're not giving them,
then that's a quality, that's a character flaw for the salesperson.
But you're not getting any of that negativity at Classic
Chevy sugar Land. You're getting all the good stuff. You're
(01:28:12):

Speaker 3 (01:28:31):
KD E Houston, ADHD two Houston, my heart radio station,
the Astrosros, the Rockets, Rockets best befall your home for
your home teams. This is Sports Talk seven ninety driven
by the Classic Chevy sugar Land Studios Together. Let's try.
Speaker 1 (01:28:53):
Salsbray, Oh very Saltbrey Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
Okay, let's do this show on Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
To usc Trump's longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:29:05):
Ryan Lima, go Lobo. This is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:29:13):
Before we hear his ass and I and take let's
talk to Rhino Ryan. What's up man?
Speaker 17 (01:29:19):
So Carol?
Speaker 8 (01:29:20):
Hey doing today?
Speaker 21 (01:29:22):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:29:22):
You know, just another day in paradise. What has it
Sean done? Another day above dirt. It's a good day.
Speaker 5 (01:29:28):
Right right side of the dirt.
Speaker 22 (01:29:31):
Congratulations Sean on getting your mediation license. All week I've
been wondering how that would go. And then Carl called
and so now I think I got a good idea.
Speaker 6 (01:29:39):
Uh yeah, yeah, Karl needs me as his mediator. Thank
you for the compliment, Ron, I appreciate it, of course.
Speaker 22 (01:29:47):
Man, I feel like I want to echo what y'all
said and kind of unless you're gonna go get Pete
Alonzo or someone like that, I feel like anything else
will just kind of be wasted money, especially when you're
trying to retain other players like Tucker Bregman and Fromber.
It's I don't think you're gonna find anybody that moves
the needle that much without getting somebody. But also at
(01:30:08):
the same time, you really don't. I don't think you
need him if you can keep the other talent on
the team, And I just I don't know if you're
gonna find somebody that's gonna fit in that role. But
also knowing Houston Nationals are probably gonna let him both walk,
I have I believe I think Alex might stay, but
that's a whole different ballgame, but I think it would
(01:30:29):
be for something different. I think Tucker wants to be here,
but he's not getting what he needs. And if he
if they're not gonna pay him. I mean, he's gonna bounce,
But I just think the first baseman that that section
doesn't really need to move quite yet. I agree with
you all, Singleton's earned it and so but anyways, just
wanted to call in and give my two cents and
(01:30:50):
got to get back to work.
Speaker 5 (01:30:51):
I'll see you guys later, Ryan.
Speaker 6 (01:30:52):
I think Ryan's point is not just valid, but I
think he's spot on. If you're gonna go get somebody
who is like Singleton, but you're gonna have meaning. He
may not be the dominant, best first baseman, but you're
bringing him in, You're spending you know, a certain amount
of money on him, and he's got to fit in here.
And he's not a Lonzo or Guerrero one of those guys,
(01:31:12):
and you're still why if you got a guy who,
if he plays one hundred and forty five games at
first base, can give you production, which he can and got.
I think I think Singleton's got an underrated glove. Yeah
I do, And so why unless you now, if all
of a sudden say hey we got a Lonzo, we're
paying it, We're going to do it. We may lose somebody,
but you you're sold on him, then then I understand
(01:31:34):
their move, right, But if you're gonna go get somebody
who is a mid level first basement that you think
upgrades the position, not from saying just it gives you,
It gives you a little some pop, don't you have him.
Speaker 5 (01:31:48):
Right on?
Speaker 6 (01:31:48):
Unless you're going for a star at first base. Let
Singleton turn into a star, right. That's the way I feel,
and and we we are quite frankly, we've been saying
it regularly. And when we say we think they're gonna
go after it doesn't mean if we were the general
manager of the front office, we would. I think they're
gonna go inquire, yes about a first basement and find
out where that is. But Ryan, I think Ryan is
(01:32:11):
dead on with this. If you're gonna go get John
Singleton from somebody else, keep John Singleton here. If you're
going to getting that that guy who Alonso Garrid, that
one of those and I get it. But if you're
just gonna go if it's a lateral move.
Speaker 5 (01:32:27):
Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
Speaker 6 (01:32:28):
Stop it. It's a waste. You already have that announce
I don't need a lateral move, No, you don't. I
need an upgrade.
Speaker 8 (01:32:34):
If you.
Speaker 6 (01:32:34):
If you're gonna go, you gotta go upgrade big, you
just do. But and a guy who comes here that
may not be a star, but it's somewhere and it's
not not a hack. He's in there and that's singles.
He's a good player and probably underrated. But if you're
gonna go get a lateral move first basement, he can
stay where he is.
Speaker 4 (01:32:52):
Also, you gotta remember they're still on the hook for
jose A Bray You's salary next year.
Speaker 5 (01:32:56):
Joe's getting paid now. Yeah, so.
Speaker 6 (01:32:59):
Think you think Joe loan ten million? Yeah, just paid
ten million. Backs they could go, you know, give a
breggy bomb.
Speaker 5 (01:33:08):
Probably not.
Speaker 6 (01:33:08):
He he's gonna need to buy the first time you'll
ever hear me saying and the last say that, Yeah, exactly, he's.
Speaker 5 (01:33:13):
Gonna do it. He's gonna need to go buy more
rubber bands. First go tea.
Speaker 6 (01:33:16):
Oh, Yeah, the goat. You gotta you gotta tie up
the goat. Yeah, some people talk about ponytails. Are you
gotta tie the goat up? It was pretty crazy to
think that, Uh he was. He was once the starting
first basement for the Astros. Yeah this year, Oh you're
talking about Joe Brad, you're not saying yeah, not sing yeah,
abou Joe, we're still talking, which we're still talking ponytailing
the beard right, Yeah, I got you? Yeah, yeah, good guy.
(01:33:41):
Production was done. Singleton's are in the right to be
the first patient singing?
Speaker 8 (01:33:47):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:33:48):
Oh, that's that's that's John Thingy, John Thingy at First Base.
Blommer blomber love it, you know it's it's Mexican Heritage
weekend over at midi May Park.
Speaker 8 (01:34:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:34:05):
Yeah, that's the uniform changed to the uniform.
Speaker 8 (01:34:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:34:08):
They're giving out to jose al to ve lost Astro jerseys.
I need to give me one of those.
Speaker 6 (01:34:11):
No, those are my people. Those are my flying Esco
flying some Mesco peeps from Esco.
Speaker 4 (01:34:16):
Hey man, they're giving out jerseys, man, suz he Holmes,
hey pepe, man, can you give me one of them jerseys?
Speaker 5 (01:34:22):
Give you Souse jerseys. I don't think.
Speaker 6 (01:34:25):
I don't think my flannel is gonna work at the minute. Later, dog,
you've got to let me. Yeah, that's my boys. Man.
Speaker 5 (01:34:30):
Man, it's like ninety degrees.
Speaker 6 (01:34:31):
You think we think people think we are kidding obviously,
but that those are my guys right in my hometown.
Speaker 5 (01:34:37):
I love it. It's awesome and you know, I mean
it's being streets today and pep okay. Man, can you
give me one of them jerseys? Minutes?
Speaker 8 (01:34:44):
Sean?
Speaker 6 (01:34:44):
Yeah, Sean, we're going to road trip in man. We
want to get tickets too. Yeah, we want to go east.
Speaker 13 (01:34:49):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:34:49):
Don't forget about your peeps, man.
Speaker 6 (01:34:51):
Don't don't forget where where you were, where you carved
out your life, so you know your peeps.
Speaker 5 (01:34:55):
We can we can have a couple of survices together.
Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Many man, Man, you gotta guess one of those little
Sasstros jerseys.
Speaker 6 (01:35:04):
Hey, I heard that Alima guy sous he making talking
talking a little trash about escal.
Speaker 5 (01:35:08):
Are you bringing him here? Is he coming coming?
Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
Man?
Speaker 5 (01:35:12):
I want to bring him into that Escal homes. I
don't think he can. I don't think he can hack
it over there, man. That oh real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:35:23):
Just talk to Chris and I want to talk mel
kiper Junior. Next segment, Chris, what's happening?
Speaker 10 (01:35:28):
Hey, morning guys, first time caller, love your show. Just
wanted to run something by y'all. Get y'all's take on it.
I agree with the John Singleton take, but I got
another option as well. You know, we want pomp at
first base, why not put yin or Ds permanently a
first base We can get Kroteny more in the lineup
of our permanent catcher. Re signed Bragman in the outfield,
and it's off season. Go out there and fix our
(01:35:49):
center field position. You know you've got Jeremy Payne, you
coming up for arbitration. He has regressed a little bit,
in my opinion, But we got Bryce Matthews in the
triple A coming up right behind him and could take
that spot. I just wanted to hear y'all take on
it because I hear but everybody one pop at first base?
Speaker 5 (01:36:03):
We got him dys Thank you, Chris.
Speaker 6 (01:36:06):
You know, I think that is a very I don't
know if Reel's fair, but I think it's a very
interesting point. Plus, you preserve his legs for a lot
longer production at first base. Sometimes we wait, meaning major
League Baseball waits too long to move that the Joe
Mauers of the world. I'm not saying as Joe Mauer
(01:36:26):
we said Piazzas right. You milk it so much and
by the time they get the first base, their bodies
are hammered, right, And I'm not saying Diaz wants to
move to first base. We see he's played a couple
you know, he's played over there before. I think Ryan
makes a good point. Let's say you didn't get a
big bobber, Chris. It was it was it, Chris, Ryan
was right. Okay, there you go. Chris makes a great
point because let's say you don't get one of those
(01:36:48):
guys we're talking about, and you love, you like Singleton,
but you want more let's say even more depth. You
want Singleton on the roster, but you want to move
a guy you got because you think Diaz, you need
his bad in and your your the growing respect for
Kerotina behind him. Let's just say it's a hell of
an option because you keep that big bat in there,
and now you've got that. Now the position is a
strong position, I mean a deep position with Singleton starting
(01:37:10):
sometimes and backing up if you were going to do that,
because we know Yaners bat is lights out. The consistency
of it, there's no doubt. And we're not talking much
about is the center field thing. How much do they
love Jake Myers moving forward? And will they be into that?
It's gonna be hard to go get a centerfielder. Go
get a big bopper at first base. Uh, try to
(01:37:30):
keep Kakuchi pay Alex Bregman. Can't do them all, No,
you can't. So what are the priorities question for Dana
Brown as we move forward once near the postseason and
once it's over to ask him where what's I mean
getting bregnant?
Speaker 5 (01:37:44):
But position wise? What's the priority in the off season?
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Yeah, I still think I would love more at basked Kartini.
Speaker 6 (01:37:53):
I think he's just a grinder at the point too.
He works pictures. Man, I really, I I can live
with that.
Speaker 8 (01:38:01):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (01:38:02):
If you're gonna, like I said, that's not a lateral move.
I mean giinerd Is is a stick right. Oh yeah,
but I don't go get me a guy who we
already have on the roster. Don't need to do it.
Speaker 5 (01:38:15):
You got it. The funnel, that money where it needs
to be.
Speaker 4 (01:38:17):
Yeah, and it's gonna be some point interesting moves with
the financial situation for the Ashros this offseason. All right,
we're gonna talk NFL mel kiper Junior after teaser for
a couple segments.
Speaker 5 (01:38:27):
What did he say about two high safeties?
Speaker 4 (01:38:29):
That's next right here on SportsTalk seven ninety brother they
Love Electric and their American made Briggs and Stratton home generator.
They have the largest air cooled unit on the market,
which includes a ten year warranty model. Warehouse is fully stocked.
No need to worry about long lead times. We have
storm seasons still here. Got some activity going on in
the Gulf of Mexico right now, or at least in
(01:38:49):
the Caribbean that could get into the Gulf of Mexico.
So we got to be on watch over the next
week because just because it's getting closer to October doesn't
mean that we can't get another hurricane. So you need
to be prepared and what that takes is getting yourself
an America made briggses Stratton home generator so that when
the lights go off, your generator fires up. Boom, you
got electricity. You do not want to be left in
the dark. Brotherley Love Electric is a fully bonded electrician
(01:39:13):

over ten years. They offer services in generators, residential troubleshooting repair,
as well as commercial industrial electric three four six seven

quote on an American made Briggs and Stratton home generator

from Brotherley Love Electric.
Speaker 3 (01:39:37):
Let the celebration start war Shawn Salisbury, a Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:40:08):
It was in the shown Salisbury show here on Sports
Talk seven Iety shown Salisbury. Brian Leemam, Emmanuel Elmore, Astros
Angels seven to ten, the first pitch. Then I had
been to may Park six o'clock on Deck Show, right
around seven on your Home for Astros Baseball show, How
Tony becomes the first fifty to fifty player in Major
League Baseball. Fifty bombs, fifty stolen bags, Texans Vikings this
Sunday in Minneapolis. All Right, I can't wait to hear
(01:40:31):
this one. Mel Kiper Junior believes that two high safeties
should be outlawed. He says that brings those safeties up
closer to the line of scrimmage. And yes, he's actually
saying this. This is not a hot take. I mean
it's a hot take, but it's yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:40:52):
I do have the sound of it. I'm just kind
of giving some context.
Speaker 8 (01:40:54):
This is not.
Speaker 4 (01:40:57):
This is actually him. This is Actually, mel Kiper Junior
talk talking about two high safeties. Trip lets go ahead,
run that on you. This is mel Kiper Junior explaining it.
Speaker 15 (01:41:05):
Well.
Speaker 16 (01:41:05):
I grew up with the best of the National Football
League sixty seventies into the eighties. You're talking about deep
shots right, the Gold Route, the nine Route posts. You're
looking about Terry Bradshaw in a Super Bowl hitting John Stalworth.
You see Leroy Irvin diving right just off his Fingertaire
is the receiver. They laid it out there right, hit
the receiver in stride, sixty five yard touchdown. It's a
beautiful thing to watch. That's what I want to see
(01:41:27):
brought back to the National Football League. Okay, check down kings,
bubble screen sensations, boring football. Uh uh, game manager, I
get it, But I want to see those deep shots.
That's what the NFL was built on. I grew up
with John Ya Nightas, Fran Tarkington, Ken Stabler, Darryl Leamonica.
You know you're talking about quarterbacks, Joe names, it would
just right Brett Fard when he was doing what he did,
(01:41:49):
Burt Jones with the Baltimore Colts. You think about those
quarterbacks who would throw the ball down the field. I said,
what Bradshaw did was Stalworth and Swan Roger Stallbach. That's
what I want to see brought back. Say, well, you
can't do that, right. We have a five yard rule
with the quarterbacks, right, the melt blunt rule right now,
with the push thing with hurts.
Speaker 5 (01:42:06):
You gotta be a yard back.
Speaker 16 (01:42:08):
Now, so they'll tell me you can't have those safeties
closer to the line of scrimmage than they are. I
was in games where I'm thinking.
Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
Hey, too high.
Speaker 5 (01:42:16):
They're out now in space too I could even find us.
Speaker 16 (01:42:18):
And they're playing with nine guys right well, the other
two on the other two they're so.
Speaker 5 (01:42:21):
Dagone far back, and even though.
Speaker 16 (01:42:23):
They're part of dan play, I'm telling you, we gotta
change this thing, and we got to have Hey, you
can warn them and I rail they come up. Hey, guys,
you gotta get up a little bit right, you're too
far back. Warn no safeties, but you got to figure
out competition. Gibe somebody, Dano, somebody's got to figure out
what that depth is. But it's too far back right now.
The NFL is being ruined bodies too high safety.
Speaker 5 (01:42:44):
It is the.
Speaker 6 (01:42:46):
Then I can't and I will preface this by telling
you if you missed early, you know I've known mil
for a long time and I do like mel Kiper.
I think he's done some phenomenal things. If people knew
the hour he spent on it. Whether you agree with
his analysis on a draft pick or not, there's a
reason he's still in business and they still hire mel
(01:43:07):
Kuiper was the original of all this. Mel Kuiper has
done some phenomenal draft work. That guy, I'm telling you,
he's all ready.
Speaker 8 (01:43:14):
Dude.
Speaker 6 (01:43:14):
He's grind when he goes home from analysis. He from
now until the end, he's grinding on that draft book.
I respect Galore and I like him. He's a good dude.
But that's the dumbest take you will ever hear on TV.
Well close, I hear a.
Speaker 5 (01:43:29):
Lot of dumb ones.
Speaker 6 (01:43:30):
It's as dumbest take as you will ever hear. And
do we love the long ball in baseball and the
deep shot? Yeah, you had a manufacture deep shot sometimes Okay,
two high safeties, So if they're out of the screen
because they're so deep, I got another first off. If
you can't run the ball versus two high safeties, then
I suggest you quit take two weeks off, take your
(01:43:51):
offensive line in your running game, and quit because if
you can't run the ball against two high safeties, you're pathetic. Secondly,
you're also it's a pathetic take. And the fact that
they put that on TV and I didn't hear anybody
chat right there now, you should have jumped through and
no offense about interrupting. You should have jumped through and
interrupted his assay. Are you suggesting that we eliminate two
(01:44:16):
high safeties completely? Yeah, that's what I'm doing.
Speaker 5 (01:44:18):
Got it.
Speaker 6 (01:44:19):
Can you imagine a referee standing back there, the back
judge and pushing them on the rear end of the
low backs your yard too deep? It is the equivalent
of saying we're not allowed to run a shallow cross
in football. You can't do it. Where Brady completed four
thousand passes, you can't do it. You can't run the
bender verse too deep because it's a you know what,
We're just not going to do it. You're not allowed
to split the middle of the field versu two ice safeties.
(01:44:41):
If you're a coach and you don't know how to
attack two high safeties, you shouldn't be coaching. If you're
a quarterback and you can't be patient enough to deliver
the ball against two ice safeties, then you should not
be playing. And if you're a broadcaster and you suggest
we take two high safeties out of it, I suggest
they don't put you on TV anymore.
Speaker 5 (01:44:56):
That's just a fact. The listen.
Speaker 6 (01:45:00):
So if a guy thirty yards deep as the safety,
as Bell suggested, do you think there's any room between
the linebackers and safeties to work that part of the
field and then.
Speaker 5 (01:45:08):
Hole shots on the outside?
Speaker 15 (01:45:09):
And it is?
Speaker 8 (01:45:10):
It is?
Speaker 6 (01:45:10):
And you know what, you know how you get somebody
out of two high safeties. You run the ball, and
you run the ball, and you hit them with inside
you hit the bender, You hit them with inside curls
and dig routes. You you're you're throwing, you're you're throwing
some screens and after a while you throw check downs.
You want to go if they play too high and
you're like, oh, we had a go route called. You
don't throw a go route versus too high. If the
(01:45:30):
safety's off the hash and it's not a whole shot,
reset your feet, throw the check down game nine yards.
Guess what eventually happens? They get tired to happen to
come up and tackle. So what does this said coordinator do.
Go go play quarters, which is quarter quarter has which
is cover six. Where you got on one side of
the field, you got too deep. On the other side,
we got quarters. Or you play you'll come down, drop
(01:45:52):
a safety down and stick him in the box like
John Lynch used to do when Mount Monty Kiffin got
tired of playing too deep. If theyre which was his
base defense Tampa two, and then put him in the
box because the team's running the ball. You run the
ball and throw the underneath stuff. Teams will get out
of two deep safeties and come to play. Basically what
mel wants. He wants it to be a deep ball
(01:46:12):
throwing contest with where the defense is hosed again the deep.
Every rule we have in the National Football League, it
feels is set up for offense.
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
Now boring.
Speaker 6 (01:46:23):
See he's going based on board. He wants to see
the Matt Bomber Darryl Lamonica throw sixty yards down.
Speaker 5 (01:46:28):
I get it.
Speaker 6 (01:46:29):
But you can still do that and we still get
plenty of shots. You know how you do take those shots.
You're smart on offense, and you put the chess piece
and says let's get him out of cover two. And
cover two is not just one. Coverage two I safeties
is cover four. There it's still middle of the field,
open verse cover six. It's still they got two man two.
He didn't touch that. Two men were running away from
(01:46:50):
each other underneath, and you got two ice safety to
protect against the vertical deep ball. It is And I
love Mel, but you can criticize if you said something dumb,
or I said something dumb, can still be great friends
and partners forever. But you can say, Sean, come on
now coming, Like if you told a pitcher never throw
a fastball. We got to take the fastball out of baseball.
Wouldn't you look at me and say, Sean, that's the
that's the dumbest take I've ever heard. I would say,
(01:47:11):
what the hell on drugs? Test hing for crack? Same
thing here. Male's not on drugs that I do know.
But I can tell you this, it is the dumbest
football take you'll hear all twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (01:47:23):
What is the analyst name? Not Big Swago? What's Big
Swago's name?
Speaker 6 (01:47:29):
You're talking about, Uh, you're talking about our on on
the Big Swag? Who is Marcus Spears. Yeah, yeah, Marcus
Spears played with the Cowboys, played LSU. You're talking about
my guy? Uh the tackle form of tackle for the
Jets and Patriots. Yea, you're talking about the offensive lineman. Yeah,
what's his name?
Speaker 5 (01:47:47):
Is that what you're talking about?
Speaker 15 (01:47:48):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:47:48):
No, I was I was thinking about Marcus Spears. But
now big Swago what is his that's Swag? Who is
Marcus Spears?
Speaker 10 (01:47:53):
Is it?
Speaker 5 (01:47:53):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (01:47:53):
So yesterday, so I got a couple of reactions from
former players.
Speaker 5 (01:47:58):
He tweeted out, was it Swag?
Speaker 3 (01:48:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:48:01):
Okay, he tweeted out, we've reached full crazy when we
want to ban defenses from playing a certain type of defense.
I can't believe I heard that blank and then and
then J. J. Watt said, this has got to be
a bit right.
Speaker 6 (01:48:15):
Yeah, it looked like I thought I was list because
you hear the guy's laughing in the background that they're
on the set. Yeah, and he's obviously Mel's remote back
at his house or wherever his studio is. You heard
him laughing, and you're thinking, this is a great Saturday
night life skit. Dude, the credit that you can't do that,
You cannot say that. I guess you can, and they're
(01:48:37):
what other guy was thinking of? What are you talking
about that?
Speaker 5 (01:48:39):
Swag?
Speaker 6 (01:48:40):
Yeah, big woods, big offensive lineman from the Jets and Patriots. Yeah,
I always get him mix right, that is uh but
yeah it Swago's right. Yeah, Marcus is right. Any take,
any and anybody that agrees with mel on this take.
Don't ever talk football on social media again. Don't put
a muzzle on it and quit talking. Just on the
damn ball, you know what that and I would suggest
(01:49:02):
a mill on this one. Take a little, take a vacation,
get back to working on your draft book. You're awesome
at it. Don't ever suggest that again, because now you've
given us a meme and a laugh. For the rest
of our lives, literally, for the rest. I can promise
you one thing. That rule will never be changed.
Speaker 8 (01:49:19):
Ever.
Speaker 5 (01:49:20):
We're not allowed to play a certain defense. I can't do.
Speaker 6 (01:49:24):
Give me a break. It's it's and you know what,
you know how much I don't care how much money
to make them think about this. They're getting paid a
lot of dough to tell you that a lot. Nobody's
gonna call him and say, dude, are you serious joking?
It's gonna let it go? Why because we're talking about
him this morning, and he's an ESPN guy. That's why.
(01:49:45):
You know what, Sometimes you just got a deal. You
gotta and and trash takes not trash people. Sometimes you
just got to take the trash out.
Speaker 5 (01:49:51):
And leave it out. And a lot of these networks
could do better than There's plenty of them that suck.
I just hate to say it.
Speaker 6 (01:49:57):

Speaker 5 (01:49:58):

Good morning.
Speaker 10 (01:51:53):
Hey Sean, I love what you just said about the
Tampa two, you know, and if you can't deal with.
Speaker 1 (01:51:59):
It, you shouldn't be coaching.
Speaker 17 (01:52:01):
But then you referenced my idol. I grew up a
Raiders fan. And when you referenced the mad Bomber and
Darryl Lamonica.
Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Man, you gave me chills.
Speaker 6 (01:52:13):
Philip, I am a lifelong diehard, Silver and Black have
been forever, my man, You and.
Speaker 17 (01:52:20):
Me, brother, Oh man, I still I still can't get enough.
Speaker 21 (01:52:25):
I watched YouTube the other day about Stabler, you know,
in the game against Miami with Shula and Zanka and
all those guys.
Speaker 6 (01:52:35):
He was falling down now in the red zone and
hit Clarence Left and he hit Clarence Davis. Among there
was like three guys draped on Clarence Davis and Stabler
was falling down and then Clarence Davis held on.
Speaker 5 (01:52:47):
In the end zone for the win.
Speaker 8 (01:52:49):
You have hands.
Speaker 10 (01:52:50):
Yeah, yeah, I still can't get enough.
Speaker 8 (01:52:53):
I'm with you.
Speaker 9 (01:52:53):
Yeah, uh.
Speaker 8 (01:52:56):
What else was I going to say?
Speaker 6 (01:52:58):
See, we got you so far about the Raiders and
Daryl Lamonica and Kenny Stave or you don't know what
you wanted to talk about? Was it anything we didn't
have to do with football?
Speaker 17 (01:53:09):
Oh yeah, the NSL.
Speaker 9 (01:53:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:53:13):
Watch these Texans. They're pretty good, man, These Texans are
pretty fun watching. I know that Sean Heck.
Speaker 9 (01:53:19):
Got rooted for you.
Speaker 17 (01:53:21):
You know I wasn't. But with the CT and all,
I've given up.
Speaker 6 (01:53:26):
I understand, my man. Well you if you if you
have anything else to talk about, call us. We can
talk Raiders anytime you want. Brother, appreciate you, thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:53:34):
Okay, there you go.
Speaker 6 (01:53:35):
The Mad Bomber reference. Anybody to watch Lamonica play? I
mean they that's the Raiders all, that's the old school Raiders.
Speaker 5 (01:53:40):
Would they.
Speaker 6 (01:53:43):
Would come out in the first series like every game, Yeah,
and they just take a deep shot because they wanted
to back you off. They wanted to attack you early
and then they could work there with Bolitni Coff and
work the underneath stuff, Cliff Branch whatever it was. But
Warren wells that they drop back and take a deep
shot early to send a message. It's like a defense
blitz it on the first series on first down and
you're trying to send a message, you're gonna get hit
(01:54:05):
quick story about that we're playing Pittsburgh and we're in
Three Rivers Stadium and that chat and they're line back.
Pittsburgh's defense is always it's a fist fight the whole time,
ever since I've been watching football back in the you know,
when I was growing up and when I played it.
Speaker 5 (01:54:19):
When you put to Pittsburgh's like, oh, this is gonna
be one of those weeks, dude.
Speaker 6 (01:54:22):
Even if you win, it is an ass whooping, right,
it's a fist fight the whole heavyweight bout. So we're
playing them and we come out in the first play
of the game, we're running.
Speaker 5 (01:54:30):
We're just running.
Speaker 6 (01:54:31):
We ran an all hitch like where it's just six
yards stop route. We'll expect them to playoff, study and
tape all week and take a three step drop. We've
thrown it from under center. Three to one, two, three,
ball out, quick hits, get six yards. Let's get this
thing started right. We wanted to because we knew they're
a pressure team, so we want to get it out.
So there was no stripsack fumble.
Speaker 5 (01:54:49):
Dude.
Speaker 6 (01:54:50):
I throw it corners off to the left, I go one,
two three, throw a hitch route to the left and
You're not supposed to take hits in a quick game.
Speaker 5 (01:54:58):
The ball is supposed to be out.
Speaker 6 (01:55:00):
Chad Brown came off the edge and I'm telling you what, dude,
he hit me in the mouth so frigging hard, knocked
me on And yes, that's my point, snowing and free.
It's free, cold, miserable and three rivers. And it's a
first play of the game. And my my head hits
the turf and I'm sitting there staring down and Chad
looks at me, and I said.
Speaker 5 (01:55:19):
Oh man, this is gonna be one of those days,
isn't it. Chad he goes south. I'm gonna be here
all day.
Speaker 6 (01:55:24):
And I went home bruised and battered and beaten. And
but it was that that's the message. So what are
we going to eliminate edge rushers?
Speaker 7 (01:55:29):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:55:30):
Yeah, yeah, we can't. We can't have a linebacker coming
off the edge. But the point is about the stealer
did they take? The Raiders would take deep shots all
the time just to back you off so they could
do all the other stuff they want to, like attack
cover too.
Speaker 5 (01:55:41):
What a novel friggin concept? Crazy?
Speaker 15 (01:55:43):
Is it?
Speaker 7 (01:55:44):
All?
Speaker 20 (01:55:44):
Right?
Speaker 5 (01:55:44):
Keep going on the phone lines, Brandon Good morning, Brandon,

Speaker 23 (01:56:08):
I watched the whole thing.
Speaker 5 (01:56:09):
Yeah, it was a good game. Won the game late
three to one.
Speaker 7 (01:56:14):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:56:15):
Do you know who tied it?
Speaker 20 (01:56:18):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:56:18):
Victor Karattini tied and then John Singleton with the two
RBIs to go ahead to make it three.
Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
To one, and then Hayter shut it, shut it out.
Speaker 23 (01:56:26):
Okay he did.
Speaker 5 (01:56:28):
Thought you were watching, man, I was.
Speaker 23 (01:56:31):
We were eating dinner, eating dinner, watching the game.
Speaker 8 (01:56:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:56:36):
John Singleton had a two run double to make it
three to one.
Speaker 3 (01:56:39):
Okay, and we.
Speaker 16 (01:56:41):
Hated the TV.
Speaker 23 (01:56:42):

There you go.
Speaker 4 (02:01:10):
We're gonna talk Texans football. Coming up at nine o'clock
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. It's
got ot the phone lines, Roger, Good morning.
Speaker 13 (02:01:19):
What's going on, fellas? Hope you're having a great weekend
so far? Uh? So? Well, My my deal was yesterday
on the Astros game.
Speaker 18 (02:01:27):
That was a good That was a good greedy win
against Kevin Brown and the Air and the and the
Los Angeles Angels. Because that's how that's what it felt
they think they were they were going up against because
they're they're batting their offerings is.
Speaker 13 (02:01:40):
Still a mean because all get out they really need
to fix that.
Speaker 18 (02:01:43):
Uh, Count Tucker, it looks like he may be coming
back for him, But I just something's going on with
with Alvin Rez.
Speaker 13 (02:01:51):
He's just stuck in some man. I know, he got
he pissed at himself yesterday for missing.
Speaker 18 (02:01:56):
An O two pitch or two O pitch and there
was just right down Wielhouse and he just popped it
up and they were just like angry at himself. So
maybe that might get him going, and hopefully it will.
But when you are talking about the old Suber and
black man, that really meant something back in the day.
I still have one of my one of my earliest
images of Laosto with the cast, you know, on the
(02:02:16):
sideline just looking all menacing as as you know, as ever,
and yeah, the super and Black meant something.
Speaker 13 (02:02:22):
Back in the day.
Speaker 18 (02:02:23):
And you know, not not not that, not that the
Texans are gonna relive that, but you know what, you
can't put the word soft and the Texans in the
same sentence anymore. And I really hope that's that's the
theme for here on out, man, because that that see
that defense looks like something. Now now all that defense
doesn't resemble a lot of and a lot of energy
and a lot of bad things that happened on the
(02:02:43):
opposite of the field. So yeah, I really like, uh,
that old Suber and that old Suber and Black, they
really meant something back in the day, even with an
oiler fan here. You know, I just know that if
it wasn't menacing Man and that Super and Black game,
and you know you were at you were at the
Astronom and that that back in the day, and so yeah,
I remember those days.
Speaker 6 (02:03:05):
It was a blast to watch Roger. Thank you man,
hit him straight this week and enjoy your football weekend.
He's right, And let me tell you what. There's a
lot of great players in different eras that can play.
But I can tell you this, if you were faint
of heart playing back then, it's just the rules of
the game. If you were faint of heart playing in
that era, don't apply man, wrong sport to play a
helmet A crown of your helmet to the chin was
(02:03:25):
not a penalty.
Speaker 5 (02:03:27):
Do you understand this.
Speaker 6 (02:03:29):
You weren't getting penalties for that, right If they did
once in a while, unnecessary roughness. If you hit a
guy on time, because it happened to me, it got
the scar to prove it. If you hit a guy
on time underneath the chin, but you hit him right
like coming up the gut, in the pocket, you hit
him in the chin, but it wasn't a late hit,
they didn't call a penalty. Now, if you hit him
anywhere in there and it's not a late hit, it's
(02:03:50):
a penalty. Late hits a penalty. Breathe on him, it's
a penalty. Walk near him, it's a penalty. Don't play
cover two, it's a penalty. I mean, everything you do
now is a penalty. But Robert Brazil here of the
curly culps, the Ted Hendricks, those old school the Alzados
he mentioned even earlier than that, I mean that the
Howie Longs that was this. There's grown man football being
(02:04:12):
played now too, But the rules, not the players. The
rules have made it different. And I'm just telling you, brother,
you you had the Jack Lambert's and Joe Greens. You
had to be a full grown ass man to deal
with those rules. Now, I mean then and and and
play like you did a broken wrist wasn't keeping those
(02:04:33):
dudes out football man, Yeah, it was. And the rules
where you could you could knock the hell out of
somebody and you could do just about anything you wanted, surety,
just don't do it late. Even then sometimes they didn't
call it. So the rules, not the players, are the
difference in the game, and it has softened it up.
That's just a simple fact. Yeah, it's a hard fact. Yep, biscuit,
Good morning.
Speaker 20 (02:04:54):
Top of the morning. My brothers.
Speaker 15 (02:04:56):
Hey, hey.
Speaker 20 (02:04:58):
And then that's one of the things that gets me
when you start comparing the players the great or whatever,
you start trying to rank them, and it's to me,
is you know, because like now they shine. You know,
you get ten twelve, fifteen receivers are over one hundred receptions. Yeah,
because you can come across. You ain't got worried about nothing,
(02:05:18):
you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (02:05:19):
So fact, the rules made it.
Speaker 17 (02:05:22):
The rules made it, you know.
Speaker 20 (02:05:23):
So it's hard to say, well, ceedee lamb. You know
he's better than lin Swam. You know, I don't think so,
you know what I mean, But the rules have made
it where the numbers are gonna show that.
Speaker 6 (02:05:34):
But you know, you know that's back then biscuit. Back then,
you ain't getting fifteen cats catching a hundred balls in
a season. And it's not that the players weren't good
enough to do it, it was the way you got
punished for doing it, meaning by defenses and stuff. So
that's exactly. Does that mean that Fred Fred Blitnikoff could
play now and Ceedee Lamb could have you know some
(02:05:55):
guys can play. Then you just have to understand that
that hit over the middle where a guy uh came
and left his feet like the matrix and put his
crown of his helmet in your sternum, you ain't getting
You ain't getting a flag man, so you still better
catch it.
Speaker 5 (02:06:10):
So it's not the players, it's the rules, and you
are one correct.
Speaker 20 (02:06:15):
And and that being said with the even with the
rules softening things up, sean one thing still stands out.
It just seems like the more physical team is gonna
win the game. And I'm thinking, like back last week
with the Cowboys and the Saints and they just coming
off the ball, just pushing people and knocking people. And yeah,
you can play a cover two if you want to,
but if I'm running it down your throat, you know
(02:06:36):
that's gonna change everything. And I think that's what the Miko.
You can tell he changed this.
Speaker 17 (02:06:43):
Little twist here that changed the.
Speaker 20 (02:06:44):
Team where the Texans are physical team and that's gonna
pay dividends late in the year and that and you know,
it's just it's a beautiful sight to see. If you
love watching just the X and holes the football. Whoever's
more physical. That's the problem with Dion them. But I
don't know if you watched them last as we shout,
I've seen some change and so okay, well maybe they
and sap is over there with the D line, so
(02:07:07):
they getting a little more physical. You have to be
physical in football, and that's that's the bottom line.
Speaker 6 (02:07:13):
Yeah, over the court, you may get one, you know,
get one of those quarterbacks having one of those days
Biscuit on a finesse day where they're just so good
that even a physical team because they don't allow you
to play to your strengths, beat you. But overall the
majority of time, not only in a game, but in
the season, if you have a if you're not a
physical team, when we're done this year, the team that
played physical most of the time and they have a
(02:07:33):
good quarterback will win a championship, or they'll be in
position to yese that that's what will never go away.
Speaker 5 (02:07:38):
It's tackle football.
Speaker 6 (02:07:40):
And if you're not knocking people around and running it
and playing physical and and beating the hell out of
somebody legally you you will eventually get left behind. Yes,
that's exactly right. Yep, that's all. And protect the football.
Those things got to give you a chance. Biscuit, great stuff, brother,
have a great weekend. My man, it's get to the
nine o'clock out. We got to look at the Texans
(02:08:01):
and Vikings matchup. Uh, let's look at what the Texans
do on offense on first down? Is it becoming too predictable?
We'll talk about it.
Speaker 4 (02:08:09):
Well, excuse me, we'll talk about it next right here
on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:08:14):
Kd E Houston, k t V HD two Houston, my
heart radio station as a Rocket. This is Sports Talk seven,
your home for your home teams, driven by the classic
Chevy Sugar Lens Studios Together. Let's drive.
Speaker 1 (02:08:36):
Saalsbury, old Bury, Salsbury, Houston.
Speaker 3 (02:08:41):
Okay, let's do this. Seawan Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:08:46):
To usc Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:08:48):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (02:08:53):
Show Sunday, We're gonna have NFL insider Aaron Wilson joined
the show next segment at nine to fifteen to talk
about this Texans matchup. Sean, what what comes uh comes
to mind early with this matchup?
Speaker 6 (02:09:11):
Well, the Vikings have I'll speak for them first. They
are a better team this year. They are, at least
early on. And they started well with Cousins last year.
I mean they had their guy. Then they had a
bunch of injuries. Different guys from Dobbs to you know,
to Cousins got hurt and then they went they went
(02:09:32):
three or four different you know, two or three different
quarterbacks on the on the just trying to find somebody
to get them through games. And Jaron Hall, the kid
from BYU who's now on another team, so and he
was a rookie trying to get his way as well.
They run the ball well. Aaron Jones is a hard,
physical runner. They have playmakers on the edge, and Darnold's
(02:09:52):
protecting the ball. Their tackles are pretty solid and stout,
so they're gonna be it's gonna be a good matchup
on both edges. The Vikings linebacker corps, they got a
couple of them from here. Yeah, yep, that they can play.
They can disrupt as well, and they're pretty decent in
the back end their safeties on knock you around. The
(02:10:14):
whole key to them is keeping Donald from trying to
be a hero every time, and this year he hasn't
tried to be. He's protected it, made throws, made the
big plays when they're there, and kept it moving. And
Aaron Jones is a good upgrade at running back for them.
This is going to be a competitive game for going
into the building. They're gonna field momentum. They're two to
zero like the Texans.
Speaker 8 (02:10:35):
This is it.
Speaker 6 (02:10:36):
It's you might have thought in the offseason without Cousins
and maybe it was going to be a rookie quarterback
and JJ McCarthy. You might have thought this this one
chalked us up to a win going in. We're better
than them. Just take Jefferson away and we'll be okay.
Ye had Aaron Jones, you got playmakers of wide receiver
and Darnald that all these guys for years have been saying,
armed talent, the guy can play, and well, Kevin O'Connell's
(02:11:00):
out the best in him.
Speaker 8 (02:11:00):
Now.
Speaker 5 (02:11:01):
Now Donald's facing the team he's facing his best test
now he just did. And now.
Speaker 6 (02:11:06):
Hard to say because this defense of the forty nine
ers is pretty frigging good. Fred Warner, They're loaded, Bosa Warner,
They're loaded. I'm talking about the overall best team. I
think with Deebo hurt and McCaffrey hurt, the Texans are
more formidable offensively right now. I think I got more
weapons in the forty nine ers with injuries going on.
But Donald played well against that defense, and he protects
(02:11:28):
a football. He threw one pick in the red zone.
Other than that, he didn't let it fester. So you're
getting a better team. I wou don't judge Donald and
the vikings by the Jets and where Donald's been judging
by where he is. But for him, you've got to
force him into You got to get him back to
the old mode where he feels like he's playing on
the bad Jets teams where oh my gosh, I got
(02:11:49):
to make every play. I think he's finally starting to
understand that making simple plays, I don't have to make
every play, and.
Speaker 5 (02:11:55):
It's working for them. This is a good test.
Speaker 6 (02:11:57):
I don't know what the point spread is, but it
shouldn't be more than four three and a half points
or less. You're getting three at home, it's it's it's
going to be under a touchdown. I haven't even looked
at the lines this week.
Speaker 5 (02:12:07):
Texans favored by two and a half.
Speaker 6 (02:12:08):
Yeah, there you go, field goal, so you get three,
so they excuse me, Okay, it's going to be this
is It may very well be. Considering the two teams
that the Texans have played, this might be this. This
is their toughest test to date too. And you know,
Colts were easy to run on. It's your it's gonna
be a little tougher to manufacture that run game against them.
(02:12:29):
But you got to stick with it, and you can't
because they're committing to it is one thing, but staying
committed to it when you go three and out a
couple of times is important.
Speaker 5 (02:12:37):
I think this is a hell of a test. This
is not the don't don't put this in the win
column just yet.
Speaker 4 (02:12:42):
Yeah, if they can't establish the run like we saw
last week against the Bears, and that pass protection for
the Texans has got to figure it out because it
hasn't been very good.
Speaker 6 (02:12:49):
That's been the biggest weakness so far. Is the pass protection,
which was a pretty decent strength last year, and they've
got to sew it up. And you cannot go on
there if you thought it was loud here at home
for your own offense, and it was loud, but you know,
you got to understand it's gonna be loud in that building.
It's gonna be packed, and they're gonna be getting after
it because they like what the Vikings are doing. And
(02:13:11):
the Vikings are a good team that thinks they're a
playoff team. And the whole key is if you've got
to you got to force some short fields or force
some turnovers. But if you keep Donald upright and let
him throw the ball on time, O'Connor will have some answers.
But I like the Texans in the game, but I
don't think it's I don't think they're getting back on
that plane coming home with a twenty point win.
Speaker 3 (02:13:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:13:31):
Speaking of running the football for the Texans, they're averaging
just two point six yards on first down. So offensive
play calling. The NFL Live Crew just a couple of
days ago, talked about that running game and the offensive
play calm from Bobby slogan, This is out sounded, This
is for insult mana.
Speaker 5 (02:13:48):
Houston got the win, but there was something that frustrated
you when you watch this game.
Speaker 3 (02:13:51):
I'm a fan of Bobby Slock.
Speaker 24 (02:13:52):
I think he's gonna play caller. I'm gonna need him
to stop lighting first down on fire, which is I
don't want I've had to be dogmatic about.
Speaker 3 (02:13:59):
Early down runs.
Speaker 24 (02:14:00):
Sometimes they make this make sense, pardon me, and there's
sequencing aspect to it. But going into this game, we
talked about this last week. The Bears defense is excellent
against the run, so it's not surprising they averaged two
point six yards per carry on first down and they
ran it over and over and over. You're putting your
quarterback behind way too much for my taste, which, by
(02:14:21):
the way, this was an issue last year as well,
and it continues to be an issue.
Speaker 4 (02:14:25):
My concern is this is the second straight week where
the option Danie Orlowski kind of going into the same
sentiment two weeks in a row where the textans trying
to run our first down without much success. So I
understand establishing the run, and I believe that the offensive
(02:14:45):
line needs to do a better job because it's not
Joell Mixon. I know Joe Mixon got banged up, but
his patients and his ability to cut through the whole
and know when to know when to make those cuts
has been on display. But do you believe that because
of this first down play calling with a heavy run
on first down is putting C. J.
Speaker 5 (02:15:05):
Stroud behind?
Speaker 6 (02:15:06):
Of course it is anytime you're second and eight or
second seven and longer. Now, yeah, you want to get
if you can give me four to six yards on
first down?
Speaker 5 (02:15:14):
Now I dictate the temple. What's going on?
Speaker 20 (02:15:16):
Now?
Speaker 6 (02:15:16):
Now I got everything at my disposal. I think last
week Bobby slowed. It felt to me like he got
into a I'm gonna prove a more physical than them,
the Bears. Do you know who the best run defense
in the league was last year?
Speaker 5 (02:15:27):
They at the Bears. Yeah, yeah, they're stout.
Speaker 6 (02:15:30):
So it was almost like you were trying to impose
your will like you did against the Colts, and when
it doesn't work, the ability to just on the fly.
Bobby Sloke's fantastic play caller. But Bobby slows something and
it's all of us do it. No, no, no, they're
not dictating. Who's what Biscuit was talking about the physical part.
They're not dictating they don't get the lineup in this
we're gonna run regardless. Well, sometimes the numbers just tell
(02:15:52):
you I can't move you.
Speaker 5 (02:15:53):
The run's not work.
Speaker 6 (02:15:54):
That's exactly right. And I'm no longer under the belief
and I haven't been for a long time that first
down is a rundown. I don't believe it one second.
I got a lot of things in my repertoire that
on first down I can make happen. Now, that doesn't
mean you abandoned the run on first down. If the
coverage and front dictates running the football now, only only
a buffoon would continue to try to jam a square
(02:16:16):
peg in a round hole. If there's an eight man
front and they got you're out numbered by three and
trying to run it uphill. A lot of fish would
die if all they did was swim upstream. Right, you
got to give your team a chance, so on first down,
they got to be more multiple on first out willingness,
and I can guarantee you they aren't planning on playing
uphill this week. But listen, each you put a different
(02:16:38):
game plan each week other than your base stuff.
Speaker 5 (02:16:40):
And it's hard. It's hard to run it against stout
people that can. You can't.
Speaker 6 (02:16:44):
You got a double team, an inside guy and you
can move and hold you up, and a two gap
guy and next thing you know, linebackers are flying around
cleaning it up. So they're going to have to on
early downs. And I've always said this, and this is
the stat bothers me on one thing. Now they're two
to zero and they haven't even erupted yet. Right is
when you I people always talk about third down. That's
(02:17:05):
the most that when you hear that, when you see
the graphic on TV, what is it third down? They're
they're four of seven on third down. Tell me what
they average on first down, and I'll be able to
tell you a better idea about what they did on
third down, because I got news for you. There avery
many plays. I've told you this story. I held the
ball too long on a second down, took a sack.
When I was in a league.
Speaker 5 (02:17:24):
One time, I looked over at Brian Billick for the
play and Brian Billick pointed at me.
Speaker 6 (02:17:28):
I looked over and him again pointed about like give
me the play, pointed at me again, and you know
what he was simply saying to me, you take this.
I got many plays at third and seventeen. This is
on you called the play, and he's right, learned a
valuable lesson. Even though you try, you know, you try
to make a play, but check out first down and
control it. So first down to me, first down is
the most important down on in football. Why if I
(02:17:51):
get six yards on first down, whether it's a screen,
a curl route, running the flat on curl flat, a
slant route, And now what do I do to the defense?
Put him on the heels a little. They don't get
to gear up against run. But you know what else
I do? I got two downs now, and if I'm
on their side of the field, I got three. But
I got two downs now, alls, I got average two.
Now that two yards per carry gets me a first
(02:18:11):
down on the next two. So you can give me
all the third down because it's like they say, well,
you got to win in December, but if I don't
win September is December, it may not matter. So it's
the same on first down. I don't know a lot
of coup players that are successful co quarterbacks and offense
that are successful. When you're playing at like third and
six or more on a regular basis, you have to
(02:18:31):
win on first down the majority of the time if
you want to be successful. So first down gives me
dictates to me how my third down statistics a lot
of times are not the other way around. First down
is the most important down in football, and you better
two yards is not enough for this explosive offense. I
think you'll see Bobby step out of that working out physically,
and then what you do. You start to move around.
(02:18:53):
Now those guys don't know, so what do you do?
Speaker 9 (02:18:55):
Now?
Speaker 6 (02:18:55):
You can move them in a run game. Now you
can move them a little bit when they know you'd
like to run it. And after the sixth sess against
the Colts and you're and you're the number one run defense.
I've always said attack weaknesses, and if you don't, if
they if their strength is that your my ego is
not too big, that I'm gonna I'm gonna play it
to your hands. You're gonna play to my strengths. And
then sometimes I gotta soften you up early with the
(02:19:16):
throw and then kill you in the second half of
the run. Other times you're playing two high safeties or
your front seven sucks, I just run it down your throat.
We'll throw it twenty five times. We'll get out of
the building. First down is important. Keep averaging two yards
of first down. This the undefeated part of it will
end soon.
Speaker 4 (02:19:30):
Yeah, And I feel like offensively U last week Bobby
Slow at times played not to lose rather than and.
Speaker 6 (02:19:37):
I think they're playing it. It feels a little early
season close to the vest.
Speaker 8 (02:19:41):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:19:41):
Yeah, the band with the bandwidth will widen, I assure you. Yeah,
there's no question. Too many playmakers on the offense.
Speaker 6 (02:19:47):
No doubt. And you got to get him invited. And
what's wrong with coming out and pumping a slant on
first down getting eight yards? And now especially with the
good route runners that they have right now on second,
Now on second two, I got something to play with. Now,
now everything's at my displ On third and nine, blitz you,
force you to throw hot, tackle tackle, force you to punt.
On third and two, you blitz me, I throw hot.
(02:20:09):
Guess what happens? All right? You hit me in the backfield,
but I fall forward. Make it two yards. They're gonna
win some. There's no doubt is the defense. Third and
two you blitz me and I throw hot. Guess what
it's already past the line of scrimmage, and so you
blitz and tackle. I gained four first down, Yeah, change
third and seven they tackle you gain five. We're punting, Yeah,
win on first down. Most important down in football. Seven one, three, two,
(02:20:29):
two five, seven ninety is the number to join.
Speaker 4 (02:20:31):

(02:22:34):
We might have thought this was going to be a tough,
tough test, but Darnold's playing well. This is going to
be a little more difficult than we thought preseason wise.
With Houston heading into Minnesota.
Speaker 15 (02:22:48):
A lot of guys because of Sam Donald's improvement.
Speaker 4 (02:22:51):
With Tripley, we got some connection problems. Can you tell him?
Just give us a shower back real quick. Not sure
what's going on with the phone lines. Yeah, it looks
like we got a little little issue. We'll get that
figured out. What give me one of these Give me
what what?
Speaker 9 (02:23:07):
What?
Speaker 5 (02:23:07):
You wanted to? Give me a hard call him on
the hotline, Tripley, give me, give me a hard count, right,
give me a play call in the huddle. Give me
the hard count.
Speaker 6 (02:23:13):
So it's on three.
Speaker 5 (02:23:14):
Give me a red seven, red seven, hot route, hot route?
Speaker 6 (02:23:20):
You want to run?
Speaker 5 (02:23:22):
So you think you told Hey, why Eddie?
Speaker 3 (02:23:27):
Why Eddie too?
Speaker 9 (02:23:28):
Too too?
Speaker 6 (02:23:29):
Is it good?
Speaker 9 (02:23:29):
Now?
Speaker 5 (02:23:29):
All right? Because I'm getting tired of this kidence. Let's try.
Aaron Wilson, Aaron, we got you.
Speaker 15 (02:23:37):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 6 (02:23:39):
Yeah, there we go, Hey, all that money, all that
money you make, you can't get a new phone.
Speaker 5 (02:23:44):
Boy got cricket.
Speaker 15 (02:23:47):
We did have a power outage last night, but uh yeah,
they gotta get it together. The center point guy, Hey.
Speaker 6 (02:23:53):
Don't tell me how rough the water is bringing the ship. Now,
I'm kidding your.
Speaker 5 (02:23:55):
Brother, you know that.
Speaker 15 (02:23:58):
Yes, Sam Donald's improvement with Kevin O'Connell. They've taken him
to a different level. Of course, he has the great
Justin Jefferson, the Church of That helps any quarterback looks
very good. But it's more than that. Darnold's playing good football.
He's making good decisions and the other side of the football,
that's probably what concerns the Texans the most is the unpredictable,
aggressive Brian Flora's defense. A lot of pre snap activity,
(02:24:22):
to say the least, and some good football players, including
a couple of guys that we know very well, Jonathan
Gernard and Blake Cashman. And they got Stefan Gilmore. They've
got a good pass trust. They leave the NFL in
sacks and Flora has really done a great job as
the architect of that defense. So no, this is a
difficult football game, and the Texans don't have Joe Mixon.
(02:24:43):
Looks like they won't have Damian Pierce, so cam Akers
will have to be RB one against his old team.
And the only real good news for the Texans this
week on the injury front is Juice Scruggs is back
from mcgroarin injury. That's a reported would happen and now
he is back and unfortunately Revenue Jordan out for the
year with the torn acl.
Speaker 6 (02:25:02):
Hey, Aaron, Brian Flores can't help himself with this either,
and I mean this is a compliment. He is going
to find ways to pressure you some way or the other.
He's going to try to find it and to the
weakness at least the naked eye weakness the first two games,
aside from pre snap penalties that are driving me crazy.
Got to fix that is there. Last year they got
better protecting the passer. Is that they've given up some
(02:25:25):
pressures and some sacks. They got to play better there.
So Brian Flor is going to try to find that weakness.
How much pressure do you expect, especially since they're on
their third back and he studied the tape and knows
what's going on in the first two weeks. How much
pressure do you expect from him, and how much multiple
stuff do you think we'll see He's.
Speaker 15 (02:25:43):
Going to bring the kitchen sink. The only variable is
does he expect them to adjust and what does he
adjust to their anticipated adjustment? So is Brian going to
debate them into possibly showing you a lot of blitz
pressure and then backing out of it and trying to
flood zones. It's very hard to fool CJ. Stroud, but
(02:26:03):
you know he is in his second year. This is
a veteran defensive coordinator. So something of a chess match
is going on between Brian TJ and Bobby Slowick. So
I can't wait to watch the strategy and how they
do things. I think they're gonna have to do some
quick game. I think they're gonna have to do some
stuff to create time. You know, I'm not worried about
(02:26:25):
Larry M. Tompson. He was the highest rated pass blocker
last week. But it's other guys are having problems. They're
having problems with stunts, they having problems with some speed
rush and they're getting there and c J. Stroud is
very elusive. He's the guy he's always looking to, you know, run,
but he is looking to run to throw and he
does a great so I think that you know, it
(02:26:48):
will be pretty competitive between these two units.
Speaker 6 (02:26:51):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Aaron Wilson's weekly visit. You
catch them on KPRC two right here with us every
Friday as well and on Twitter at Aaron Wilson. Yeah, Ton,
so want that ball snap. I'm not worried about tons
of one bit either. I'm I just don't want to
be first and fifteen on pre snap penalties and it'll
be loud Minnesota, as you will know, right Aaron.
Speaker 5 (02:27:08):
Let's go to the offensive side as well. Running the
first down.
Speaker 6 (02:27:11):
I'm a big believer that first downs is important, if
not the most important down in football. I've always said
it because it'll help you. If you're third and four,
it's a lot better than being third and nine. So
you got to win on first down. They're not winning
on first down, so a two conservative planet close to
the vest. What will we see from them on first down?
And this week, especially knowing what Brian Flores's defense is
all about, do we expect shots?
Speaker 15 (02:27:32):
I think they look deep to Nico Collins. I don't
think they have any hesitation to throw to Nico. He's
a go to guy for the Texans amongst the receivers,
even more so than say a Stephan Diggs. I expect
them to continue to see Nico. That's working. He leads
the NFL and receiving yards, So they're not going to
stop throwing a Nico. He's still going to be a
(02:27:53):
high volume target guy. They're gonna trust him on the sidelines,
They're gonna trust him deep, and you know, I think
that they'll try to do a few things, maybe some
screens to slow down the Vikings pass rush and get
them back on their heels a little bit. I don't
know if they're going to run the ball a whole bunch,
but they're going to at least have to try to
establish the run and k Makers a pretty elusive guy,
(02:28:17):
be pretty motivated play against his former team. I think
he can get them some yards, but I'm not anticipating
maybe one hundred yard game from him.
Speaker 6 (02:28:25):
Is this the second most complete team in the NFL?
Or should I say the AFC right now? Meaning the Texas.
Speaker 15 (02:28:32):
They've got all that it takes. There's a few things
like you hit on with the you know, the we
didn't talk about the penalties that's been a problem. They
got to, you know, be a cleaner team with that
twelve penalties. That's not it what they did against the Bears.
You know, some of these things like past rush vulnerability
and that other aspect, the penalty bug. If they don't
(02:28:55):
fix these is eventually going to cost them a game.
And you know that's the expectation, right They're not. Nobody
thought they're going defeated. But it's a very good, complete
football team that Nick Aceio has done a good job
of building and Demico Ryans of developing. I still see
them as one of the most competitive teams and a
top five team here in the AFC, and they can
(02:29:16):
make some noise in the playoffs. But they've got a
lot of improving to do. There's some things here earlier
the season that Fanny get fixed.
Speaker 6 (02:29:23):
Where's the biggest improvement? Not I mean I understand first time.
What are we missing on the improvement? With your eye
and talking and watching and listening to them, is there
some hidden improvement that needs to be made that we're
not seeing?
Speaker 15 (02:29:36):
Still need I think you know, you see the pass
us that's pretty obvious that that's better. I still think
that they can be even better on defense. As well
as they played against Chicago. It's dominant. There's still more
ahead of them. They can do even more.
Speaker 10 (02:29:52):
This can be a.
Speaker 15 (02:29:53):
Special defense with the personnel they have. You know, we
saw obviously the Week one and the Week two improvement
of Kamar last Or that was impressive. Going with Derek
Skingley Junior, they'll both need to do a good job
against Justin Jefferson and they just had the football. You know,
we've been hitting on it. We talked about penalty, was
talking about the cast rush, some about assignments, alignment technique,
(02:30:13):
all those things they can get better at. And you know,
the way they were blocking at the second level in
the first game, they have to get back to that
in Week three. They didn't block that well at the
second level in Week two. There was some yards that
could have been had you saw Joe Mixon talking to
Jared Patterson, it was very obvious what he was talking
about about a miss block down the field. But I
(02:30:36):
think with Scrugs back in the lineup, I think that
will help him a lot and solidify the middle and
maybe they're able to run the ball a little bit
better even without Joe Mixon last week. I mean they
weren't they were really coming in stonewalled. I think Chicago's
got a lot of good defensive players. You got to
give them some credit to No, nobody's going to be
a dominant juggernaut with the parody in this league right now.
(02:30:59):
Texans just a few things they can get better at.
I think they can also get a little bit better
at just the timing.
Speaker 5 (02:31:05):
Of from the plays.
Speaker 15 (02:31:06):
But it's early in the season and that's natural.
Speaker 5 (02:31:08):
You're gonna have some of those issues all right now.
With this Caleb Williams c J. Stroud thing. I listen.
Speaker 6 (02:31:17):
I hear a lot of dumb things on TV like
eliminate cover two. But that's for another day. Is I
don't understand what the what the hang up is about
with c J. Stroud just offering a friend some not
only advice but support a quarterback fraternity. We we're chasing it.
We're chasing a ghost here mountain out of a mole hill.
That to me didn't seem anything like that's my little bro.
Speaker 5 (02:31:38):
That's that.
Speaker 6 (02:31:39):
It seemed to me like a quarterback looking after a
guy because he's been a rookie before and a top
draft pick, the second pick last year, the first pick
for Caleb Williams this year SeeMe to me like it
was just fun advice and a guy looking.
Speaker 5 (02:31:48):
After a buddy.
Speaker 15 (02:31:50):
Well it should, yeah, absolutely agree with you. It should
have been a non story. The reason it is because
everyone's interpreting body language, all the social media experts, so
called experts, watching every little nuance. The interpretation that CJ gave,
you know, I feel like that is the interpretation that
Caleb just wasn't in the mood to have a chat
(02:32:11):
right then. He just lost a football game. That doesn't
make me downgry, Caleb. You know, if you show me
a good loser, you know, I mean, that's not what
I want to see from my starting quarterback. He was upset,
he'd had a rough night, he was sacked seven times,
hit eleven times, pressure thirty six times, he was under
constant duress, and maybe he just wasn't in the mood
right then to have a chat. The other issue is,
(02:32:32):
I mean, I guess, you know, hindsight, you know, they're
not that close to those guys, they're not like best friends.
So maybe he just wasn't in the mood for the
mentor for a guy he doesn't know as well or
doesn't want to, you know, listen to That's okay. That
doesn't you know, condemn Caleb if he doesn't have to.
He's probably got lots of mentors if he doesn't want
to hear that good advice. But CJ is very well intentioned.
(02:32:53):
He was being very nice, and yeah, my takeaway is
that Caleb is the reason it's a story because you
saw his body langs. He's pulling away. He doesn't really
want to have a chat right then, or an extended chat,
and you know he acknowledged, and he wasn't like really rude,
but you know, mildly the reason it's the story. I mean, like,
if you look at the New York people are worrying
about this dumb Aaron Rodgers Robert Solid thing, They're fine,
(02:33:16):
that was no big deal. They're just talking about, you know,
getting the lead and being a kind of boisterous with
each other. In this case, yeah, I think Caleb could
be a little more open to the advice. But at
the same time, it's probably one of those ones with
the cameras on you, you say, hey, broke, you know,
tough game and see down the road. Uh, let's talk
affecture or something like that. Right then, maybe you have
(02:33:36):
a conversation. The problem is that the conversation both as
are micd up. This is on NFL films, everybody's watching.
Speaker 20 (02:33:44):
I'm in the media.
Speaker 15 (02:33:45):
But I would say, yeah, they're not having a private moment,
and so they both have to have that expectation. Caleb,
Caleb wasn't trying to do any uh any acting out there.
I mean, he's that was who he that was basically
he was being himself and that moment, he's upset, he's frustrated,
he just lost. He's got his butt kicked. You don't
want you don't want to talk, That's okay. I mean
(02:34:07):
you were a quarterback too. I mean there might have
been some games where I mean you probably wouldn't have
wanted to have absolutely absolutely lost.
Speaker 6 (02:34:14):
Yeah, and you know what I guarantee, well he may
not have paid attention, or at least it looked like it.
He heard what what what Stroud said and someday it
may be a valuable He just said, you got it
inside you and you're gonna be a great player, a
hell of a player in the league. Good stuff, man,
should be a fun game. Look forward to our conversation
next week. Can't wait till Sunday, and and we look
forward to having you on all season long.
Speaker 5 (02:34:34):
Brother, Thank you.
Speaker 6 (02:34:36):
It's Aaron Wilson, good stuff, and it's gonna be a
hell of a game this week. I think it's gonna
be one of the fun games of the weekend. Sports
Talk seven to ninety rolls on.
Speaker 3 (02:34:45):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 5 (02:35:03):
Fights on Friday. This is Colorado, guys, turn it off?
Turn it off? Did y'all buy chance?
Speaker 6 (02:35:16):
This buffty who Bufty's nuts?
Speaker 5 (02:35:21):
Did y'all buy chance?
Speaker 4 (02:35:22):
See Dion's latest UH presser where he talked about the forecast. No,
just I mean just it's right on brand with UH
or the Baylor Bears. Yes, this week just wrapped up
with the NFL insider Aaron Wilson. If you missed it,
it's on our block Sports seven n eighty dot com.
But apparently there's supposed to be some really really bad
(02:35:43):
weather snow, downpours, rain, rain in uh at fulsome field.
Speaker 5 (02:35:50):
Yeah, and UH.
Speaker 4 (02:35:53):
Reporter asked him, you know what, Triple, I'm just gonna
send you this audio because it's pretty it's pretty good man.
Speaker 5 (02:36:00):
Uh, it's just so Deon Sanders. You know you better
call him coach Prime. I'm not calling Okay, what's up,
coach Prime? Can you say that? No, you ain't calling him?
Coach Prime. Yeah, it's coach Sanders. Yeah, coach coach Deon Sanders.
Speaker 8 (02:36:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:36:15):
Let's get out to the phone uge real quick for
when Tripley's processing that bill.
Speaker 5 (02:36:19):
Good morning, thanks for holding.
Speaker 11 (02:36:21):
Thank you, sir, Sean.
Speaker 7 (02:36:23):
I never get this right.
Speaker 5 (02:36:25):
Is it's irony or coincidence?
Speaker 11 (02:36:27):
But the day after you get your mediation accreditation in
course completed, You've got a caller today that wants to
compare O Tani to Babe Ruth. You've got a caller
who wants to make John Singleton the next highest paid
first basement in baseball. And mel Kiper wants to eliminate
the cover too. I think this is a setup for you, Sean.
(02:36:50):
They're setting you up, dude.
Speaker 6 (02:36:52):
Of course they are. They brought me back you. They
want me to start mediating the fight that's about to
break out.
Speaker 11 (02:36:57):
Okay, And one other quick things that you mentioned all
good uh passing rules and the raiders.
Speaker 6 (02:37:06):
I love old old AFL tug.
Speaker 17 (02:37:09):
I love it.
Speaker 11 (02:37:10):
But can you imagine today Cliff Branch would probably catch
about two thousand yards and balls and belitting the cough
would probably have about one hundred and forty five catches
under today's rules.
Speaker 6 (02:37:22):
Oh yeah, and then not getting it in. You don't
have to take a big hit after it or it's penalized.
Hell yeah, saw that space. You get to off rate
in no doubt without a penalty.
Speaker 11 (02:37:30):
Imagine these these guys trying to cover Cliff Branch without
a bump.
Speaker 6 (02:37:34):
Yeah, Cliff made Yeah, Cliff made it tough. En up
on the mail blunts of the world and stuff for
the best on the planet. And yeah, it would be
It would be really nice when the five yard rule
and with mel Blunt himself, where they're mauling you at
eight and nine and holding you down the field, you
know what I mean at ten yards they're still riding
you a six three twenty pounds mel Blunt at corner. Yeah, no, man, rules,
(02:37:55):
it's not the players, it's the rules. And yes, I
would love to I'll tell you who. I'd love to
see a Steve Largent playing in these rules with a
good quarterback. See if Steve Largent had a Brady or
a Mahomes or c. J. Stroud, guy might catch two
hundred and twenty balls because you couldn't cover him. He
was a teammate of mind. He's the best route runner
I've ever seen, still to this day. And finish her
with his hands. It was incredible. Man, didn't sound right.
(02:38:18):
Let me back up. Finish her with your hands. Sorry
about that, but closer. Pause, But Bill, it would be
fun to see. The rules have made it. The rules
have made it offense all offense oriented. Back in the day,
offense had to work their ass off to get open
and to protect the quarterback because those guys.
Speaker 5 (02:38:33):
Were beating the dog and you know what out of you.
Speaker 4 (02:38:36):
Hey, Bill, I was really happy to see you starting
the wave at Mini Ma Park last night.
Speaker 23 (02:38:40):
Man, brother, card probation should be eight. John got to
help this guy terrible.
Speaker 6 (02:38:54):
Yeah that's Bill.
Speaker 5 (02:38:55):
Enjoy your weekend, man, Yeah, Bill, thank you.
Speaker 6 (02:38:57):
I appreciate your brother. Thank you. So we at a
re ok anybody's ticket that decides they want to start
the waves?
Speaker 4 (02:39:03):
Uh my buddy Paul tweeted out a video that he
got last night of a middle aged, basic white guy
starting the wave. You know how when we talk about
the wave like it's the stereotypical way everybody, Yeah, he's
doing it. Was literally that I'm talking word for word,
and I'm talking. Every motion he did was like and
(02:39:26):
then he gets up and he walks, and so I
retweeted and I said, it's always the basic ass, middle
aged white guy that starts the wave.
Speaker 5 (02:39:33):
And he's also gonna go home. Oh but he goes home.
He's gonna say, man, it was awesome. Everybody's wave.
Speaker 6 (02:39:39):
I started the wave.
Speaker 5 (02:39:41):
It's incredible.
Speaker 17 (02:39:42):
Man.
Speaker 6 (02:39:43):
That's what I'm gonna do every game. Now next year,
I'm gonna I'm gonna come to every game and start
the wave. It's awesome. Dogs, it's awesome to look at him.
Look at him. Yeah, he started looking at him. Yeah,
watching him yeh. Look at play in one section you go,
you go, yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:39:57):
Man, it's always the basic ass white guy.
Speaker 8 (02:40:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:40:02):
Stop it, dude. They just clone them. They they all
looked the same. He's like everybody, hold up, yeah, going on.
He's the he's he's the orchestra. You know, he's the
he's a conductor, the he's the puppets master. Unbelievable. Oh god, dude,
but I guarantee who went home, Like, yeah, I got
him with his boys. He's telling his guys today too.
Speaker 5 (02:40:22):
In the group. Can you see me last night. I
was a I killed it at the Astros game. Wave dog, it.
Speaker 4 (02:40:28):
Went all the way around. Yeah yeah, that was me,
yeah dog, unbelievable. Oh great, Gil says, stop being a hater.

Speaker 5 (02:42:52):
You hate them kids though? Left them kids? These kids
aren't really kids anymore. Man, What do you say? What
you're what I say?
Speaker 6 (02:42:58):
You would have kids?
Speaker 5 (02:42:59):
What do you say?
Speaker 3 (02:43:00):
No?
Speaker 5 (02:43:00):
Absolutely not f them kids. Yes, it ain't happening to
T shirt coming soon? Yeah, exactly. You like the slate
this weekend?
Speaker 6 (02:43:09):
You like the slate we called slate.
Speaker 4 (02:43:10):
There's a good one tonight, man, Illinois Nebraska at Nebraska. Yeah,
Nebraska favored by seven and a half.
Speaker 6 (02:43:17):
Go big red.
Speaker 5 (02:43:18):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 8 (02:43:19):
And then.
Speaker 4 (02:43:21):
Let's see u all. Who's the corner Huskers play Illinois.
Illinois top twenty five. Yeah, USD at Michigan. That's a
two thirty kickoff. Let's go USC favor by four and
a half. I'm taking USC in that one. Fight on
there you go fight Yeah?
Speaker 11 (02:43:38):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:43:39):

good one Saturday, three o'clock at boone Picking Stadium over
in still Water.
Speaker 6 (02:43:47):
Let's go. You ready to go?
Speaker 5 (02:43:48):
No, Oklahoma State favorite by two and a half. You
don't want to go to Billy Bob's. I'll take Utah
in that game. You're the running ut dog man. Look
at Miami ranked number eight. There's a moon there. Moon's
over my hammi. Yeah, damn right. Tennessee at Oh you,
that's another good one. It's gonna be a great one.
And then you got Love Love ten I love High Highpool.
Speaker 6 (02:44:09):
That's his former team. He's gonna go after that. He's
gonna attack man Archlanning getting the start for the University
of Texas. They host Louisiana Monroe, so good luck.
Speaker 5 (02:44:18):
Yeah, that's not gonna be very much fun for Louisiana Monroe.
Speaker 4 (02:44:21):
No, it's not an all sneaky game. Kansas State at
b YU. We know how physical b YU is. Dog
one right, fun and at the setting will be awesome.
It's beautiful there. Yeah, but Camps State's really good.
Speaker 9 (02:44:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:44:32):
That Mike Mike guy. Avery Johnson the quarterback is electric. Brother.
Speaker 4 (02:44:35):
All right, let's we got two guys who we can
get them both in. Hey, Gil, what's that man?
Speaker 6 (02:44:41):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (02:44:42):
Brian?
Speaker 8 (02:44:42):
Why are you such a hater? Man?
Speaker 5 (02:44:43):
What am I hate on?
Speaker 8 (02:44:45):
Dion?
Speaker 5 (02:44:47):
I didn't say anything about Deyon, did I?
Speaker 8 (02:44:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:44:50):
You're I mean what I say?
Speaker 3 (02:44:51):
Think about it?
Speaker 17 (02:44:52):
We never got to hear that Jackson, you probably don't
like Reggie Jackson.
Speaker 5 (02:44:56):
I love Reggie Jackson.
Speaker 6 (02:44:58):
What do they talk?
Speaker 10 (02:45:00):
They talk and they do the walk, And you probably
don't like Sean because he's the best proper.
Speaker 4 (02:45:04):
You know, Gil, what has what has Deon Sanders done
that has backed up his talk as the coach for
the University of Colorado?
Speaker 10 (02:45:12):
Uh, Sean, could you let him know what?
Speaker 9 (02:45:16):
Jill?
Speaker 6 (02:45:16):
I got my answers. Buddy, You guys are in this battle.
I'm a mediator, now, okay, Gil, what you're mediator?
Speaker 4 (02:45:23):
What has he done as the head coach of the
University of Colorado that has backed up all the bs
that has come with him in his program?
Speaker 17 (02:45:31):
Well, I'm not talking about him head coach.
Speaker 3 (02:45:32):
I'm talking talking.
Speaker 4 (02:45:34):
About Deon Sanders is one of the greatest athletes of
all time. I put respect on him as a player,
as an analyst, but as the head coach of Colorado
he's annoying as hell.
Speaker 17 (02:45:44):
Well he is, but he's letting people like you and
Sean talk about him.
Speaker 8 (02:45:47):
Right.
Speaker 4 (02:45:48):
Appreciate the call, Gil, We got to get going. So Rodney,
I got thirty seconds. What's happening.
Speaker 5 (02:45:54):
How's it going?
Speaker 2 (02:45:54):
Guys?
Speaker 6 (02:45:55):
Have a hippie.
Speaker 15 (02:45:56):
I will want to say, what do you think we'd
be the game playing Whitney coach off to hoste it
when you think tank and the risk of offense would
get involved this week more with Niko being off to
the hostile rod.
Speaker 5 (02:46:06):
Appreciate it right, Thanks for the call.
Speaker 6 (02:46:07):
I have a great week, and I would expect as
I asked Aaron Wilson, and I believe this. I think
you're going to see some shots taken, meaning push the
ball down the field because Brian Flores is going to
blitz you. And when you blitz, you get a lot
of man coverage. And with man coverage, if you can
sew it up, I would expect some chunk, explosive plays
this week by the Texans. Now, the minnesot is really good.
(02:46:29):
It's good football team. But when you get a team
that pressures, if you can sew it up and get
the ball out of your hand, you get a lot
of one on one, which means a lot of big
plays in home runs. Now, if you'll squeeze it, don't
protect it, a lot of disasters plays on the offense.
So I would expect more shots than you've seen the
first two games because Brian Flores's defense is conducive to pressure.
He's going to think that he can get to you
(02:46:49):
before you get rid of the football. I need more
take down the offense. It's time, Yeah, it is time.
And these are one of those. You get an inside
move on a slant of blitz. He catches and takes
it to the house from a distance because you're getting
man coverage and you just got to get off the ball.
But ball's gonna have to come out in a quick
game too because they are gonna pressure.
Speaker 5 (02:47:06):
What do you you got?
Speaker 6 (02:47:06):
I got? I got Houston and by a field goal,
so dog close. Yeah, but I'd take I'd take the
I would take the Texans in there, Yeah, I would
take them. But I'm gonna tell you what. You don't
turn it over right and protect your quarterback and get
the ball out because he will blitz and they pressure
as much as anybody in the league.
Speaker 5 (02:47:25):
Yeah, and we will talk about those Texans on my day.
Speaker 6 (02:47:28):
Let's go.
