Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury. Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sewan Salisbury, the USC Truths, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Ryan Lima, go Lobo.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
Shawn trip Lea, good morning, Good morning. Congratulations of the
astros who do thunk that after that start, here they
are and today I'm not. I will not stand for
any uh Dana Brown hatred no regardless of whether you like.

(00:48):
They don't give us injury updates and all that. The
guy has been his deals have been spot on. When
got Hectornaris when necessary. And I know they can go
back to why we let him go in the first place, Well,
you got him cheaper, all worked out just fine. You
got him on the veteran minimal man, right you did?
And uh Kokuchi best as good. Put it this way.

(01:09):
I don't know if it's I had, I'd have to
go through the league. But since the trade deadline, tell
me somebody who's impacted their team more, there's no way.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
You're not gonna find it. There was one of the
other trade. Two of the other trades. Those guys that
they traded for our camera exactly two pitchers. Both of
them were like DF eight sent down who are you
talking about. There's a couple of them. I have to
go back and look, there were.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Two reliefs that were traded in the mind to some
other team.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
Yes, that that the Astros were quote unquote interested in, well.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Best best if you're talking about impact on a team,
Kuchie far and away. Yeah, so there's that. Did Jason
Heyward get makes a great play? Hits Homer's what a
veteran stud he is. So tell me again why that
this guy doesn't belong considering everything that's gone on.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
How he's not.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
A possibility for Executive of the Year honestly and has
nothing to do with the fact that he comes on here.
I love having him on, but we go out him
pretty hard and he's, like I said, you may not
like that they don't give you updates or that they
he says, we're grinding in the back of the baseball
card and all that, but his moves been spot on. Yeah,

(02:17):
they're the division champs after being down ten games and
everybody thinking football season is going to be great, and
now that they're in the tournament, there's no team in
the American League Baltimore's falling off. Matter of fact, the
Astros have gotten bypass them in this thing. There's no
team in the American League that you look at and say,
don't know, if we can handle them for seven games,

(02:38):
they may very well be the Astros if they're fully healthy. So,
I mean, there's a lot of work to do. Like
you said, you can't have one or two bad games
like I said it yesterday in a short series, but
impressive considering all they've done.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
You have to.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Whether you like all this, You're not gonna like any
managers moves all the way through. You're not gonna like
any general manager when when they come on and talk.
We want total transparent, like they're our wife or our husband,
like we are our hairdresser or your nail salon person
or whoever it is that you're sitting there having a
beer with that you like empty the bucket too, right,
You're not gonna get that from any manager or executive

(03:17):
when they come on an interview each week. Our guy
Dana Brown's been pretty damn transparent with us. And whether
we I mean we all want that, Oh yeah, I
want every single thing they tell that doesn't happen in sports.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
But the moves are the thing you should be.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Now, what's said what's done, and what's done is Dana
Brown and the Astros and Joe A Spot. I have
done a hell of a job considering. And I got
tremendous affinity for Dusty Baker as you know, not just
a friend, but I think he as a matter of fact,
I don't think he's got enough credit in his career,
for his managerial career because he didn't win four championships.
But he'll be sitting in Cooperstown when all of a

(03:52):
sudden done. But this team this year maybe is impressive.
I've been here eleven years. It may be is impressive
I've seen since i've been here. Why because of how
they got there? Not to I mean, we're just talking
about pitching, but you lost most your best all around
player for seventy plus games.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
We say it every day. They are now the division champs.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
I honestly, other than staying in the rhythm, I really
don't care what happens between now and next Tuesday or
you know, this weekend, I really don't care. Well, if
they lose them all, won't they lose momentum? There ain't
no such thing as momentum baseball in a game to game.
Why it's confidence, because alls it takes is a Fromber
or a Hunter Brown or Nola to go out there

(04:36):
and shut you down. And guess what, momentum's done, done,
gone out of there out Yeah so in game, yes,
and that momentum at home or when the crowd's going,
or the confidence.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
But get them rest, get them ready to go.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
Hunter Brown's not going to get another start because of
the six man rotation, and Fromber should be ready to
go when we open up next Tuesday. The guy that
got you in and the guy that's going to start
to hopefully carry you through starts. The last one that
got you in is going to start the first one
more than likely to get you a one game lead.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
So congratulations to them. Man.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Now, I don't need a real heavy celebration. It's nice
to be division chances. You got to get over it
quick because a team you're going to face, they can
get you out pretty good, more than likely if.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
It's that team, if it's going to be Detroit. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
So, I just think it's been a frigging impressive year,
all the ups and downs, and that guess who stayed
the course. We all didn't at times ready to quit.
Oh man, what's going not quit on them, like, damn,
this is gonna be tough to overcome. So the two
most impressive things that have had for me three Detroit's
a cent in the second half. The Astros all season

(05:46):
long to overcome all these injuries and still the strength
of their team to be the pitching staff and the
padres are like forty six and sixteen or something like
since since they started.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Did you see how since they then they got rolling?
What was it they were?

Speaker 4 (06:03):
They were what right at five hundred and since the
last forty six, like sixty games, dude, they're like forty
six and sixteen or forty something in fourteen, I mean
their run, they're like thirty some games over five hundred
since they started this run.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
They're ninety one and sixty six.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Yeah, and now when they were there was a point
time they were five hundred.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
So they were fifty and fifty. There you go at
the second half.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
That's one hundred games and they've played one hundred and
what one hundred and fifty eight games or something right
now something like that. Dude, they're forty there, fifty and fifteen.
And what's their record now? How many wins they got?
They're ninety one and sixty six. Okay, so basically they're
forty one and six sixteen in the second half, those
three teams there, you're like nobody. Detroit was struggling, the

(06:52):
Padres wereu were padreing, and then they all of a
sudden do this and win another game. Lasted beat the
Dodgers again. Right, you see how they ended the game. Yeah,
phenomenal triple player. Right, unbelievable things are going good for
the Padres, and then this team to the course of
a whole season, just what they've overcome. You just not
supposed to do that. And probably the way the Mariners

(07:14):
went and hid went away. Yeah, and last year's World
Series champs were just a bunch of guys. This year
it's amazing this. So those are the things that stick
out to me. But enjoy this and then you get
back to work, man, You got to get back to work.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
Tigers actually extended their lead in the Wild Card Sants
last night with a win because the Twins have just
come kind of fallen off. They're three and seven in
their last ten, they've lost three in a row, and
then you look at the Tigers, they've won three in
a row. So there's been a lot of second half surprises,
if you will, the Padres being one of them, like
you said, and then the Tigers. I didn't see the

(07:50):
Tigers at I think there were like eight or nine
games out at one point of the wild Card because
you had Tampa Bay was right there, Boston was right there,
the Twins were leading, and the Royals excuse me the Yeah,
the Twins were up high in the Wild Card and
out of nowhere, here come the Tigers. And it's looking like,

(08:11):
if you know, the Tigers continue to win, that they're
going to be the ones to come here to Houston
for the Wildcards, which starts in less than a week,
because I think I don't think there's a way for
the Astros to catch the Guardians, to try to sneak
into that that two seeds. So looking ahead, the Tigers
have two more against Tampa Bay and then they finish

(08:33):
with the with the Chicago White Sox.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
So I think we're in for a hell of a postseason.
Let's just hope the Astros are the second half team,
not the first half team.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
Yeah, and uh, pitching wise for the Astros, it's going
to be set up pretty damn perfect. If could Kakuchi
throws today, So that would set him up to potentially
pitch in a game three if needed, in the Wildcards series.
So that means from er Valdez and Hunter Brown will
be ready to go for your games one and two.
So that sets up really really nicely. Now, the one

(09:06):
thing is you're gonna have to get yourd on back.
I saw yesterday they said that he was still pretty sore.
But the plan is to try to get into Matt
bats against the Guardians. So whatever that knee sprain is,
it doesn't seem like it's gonna be something serious to
where he misses the Wildcard series. Get him a couple
at bats here against Cleveland. Don't let him play the field,

(09:26):
just let him hit, let him dh let him get
his you know, get get the soreness to go away,
and then let's roll into the Wildcard Series. I am
all for it. We got man. You know, Steve Sparks
does the celebration. Did you see what he was wearing
last night? Did you buy a chance?

Speaker 6 (09:43):
See?

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I did not.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Gosh, I actually didn't hear one, you know, doing all that,
I didn't hear one ounce of the celebrated. Today will
be the first I hear it when I'm sure we
got some sound from it. Be the first I hear
the post game stuff. Look at this man, those like
overalls he wore astros astros, yet nothing on under it.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Yeah, I love it. That's the great Steve Sparks.

Speaker 5 (10:06):
I love him because you know he goes down and
uh celebrates, celebrates, drinks him a couple of cold beverages.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Yeah he Uh they're doing They've been doing that a
lot at this time of year every year.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
I got eight years.

Speaker 5 (10:18):
I gotta say this this just you know, look again,
it's the division. I understand that, and you still gotta
make a run in October. But just as far as
the division is concerned, twelve and twenty four to start
the season.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
They were ten games back in.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
June, just a couple of months ago, and they win
win their division for the fourth straight year. And if
you really look at all of the full one hundred
and sixty two game seasons, they've won seven in a row.
Take out twenty twenty completely. Yeah that's why seven in
a row.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
So you you just you you marvel at it and
you're it's okay to celebrate, you know. I said, well,
that's not the championship. It's okay to celebrate because these
are hard to come by, especially this celebrate. Yeah, I
was gonna say this celebration maybe even deeper in your
soul after what you overcame. And in truth, if people
are being honest, there's not a whole lot of people.
Now there's there's some we've had, you know, bisk A

(11:08):
lot of people said, hey, it's still early. When it
was early, this team knows how to deal with this.
And then a lot of people thought, not that, we'll
see you next year. We've heard that a lot. Yeah,
I was. I was one of them.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Yeah, we'll see And here at the point I was like, man,
I don't know if this is gonna they're gonna be
able to turn it around.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
Well, I think it was obviously said there's no way
they can win the division, right, Well here they are
not only win it, but with a weak despair.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Unbelievable, impressive. Yeah, just you.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
We we have been for it, not privilege. I would say,
I hope we haven't taken this for granted. The run
and I know me and you discussed I think it
was last week or week prior that we probably do.
But damn, man, this run has been unbelievable. Seven seven
straight full season Al West Division titles. I mean you
think back to you know, back in the nineties when

(11:54):
the Astros would win titles and get into the playoffs
and then just get beat by the Braves in the
first round. And now the AL essentially runs through Houston
year in and year out. It's unbelievable, man, especially this year.
It's just twelve and twenty four. I'll say it again,
twelve and twenty four, ten games out at one point ten.
What a fall off for the Mariners and also good

(12:15):
for the Astros to keep grinding.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
But damn, how do you f that up?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
You're the mayor, and anybody who wants to make an
excuse or you know, talk about, well, here's what happened.
All you gotta do is look at the team who
is well they they lived up to who they are, Resilient,
tough handle adversity, all that stuff that Dan is telling us,
we've been hearing about for years. And you know what,
stay together, strong clubhouse. I'll be damned. Yeah here there,

(12:43):
You're not gonna start off a season much worse than that.
When you're a team this good, the ability to overcome
it and stay there. It would have been easy to
believe everything everybody was saying about them. And when I
say everybody, not in the blanket statement, but seventy five
percent of people we know where like it's tough when
mate store start to rebuild and get healthy and do
all the window closing, yeah all that. Yeah it's open, Yeah,

(13:03):
it's open.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
And you know, you talk about the resiliency in the
clubhouse culture and the organizational culture, They're only as strong
as their weakest link.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Go to break, go to break? Now, what do you mean,
go do that break?

Speaker 5 (13:18):
I got I got that one in nice and smooth man.
All right, we'll go to breezy. All right, we got
plenty of clubhouse audio. They were partying last night. Your
you're astros Al West Division champs for the fourth straight year.
Let's discuss the next on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (13:38):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Also check this out.

Speaker 7 (13:40):
I should have warned you if Sewan only cares about
cold heart.

Speaker 8 (13:45):
Back to the Sewan Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Damn, good to be them. I don't know why you hate.
I mean, once you congratulate, man, get.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Off their nuts. Man, what are you on our team
or who's team me on? Uh, I'm on the we'll
see out here we go out of the iHeart it's
like you're just taking like offense first defense. I'm taking
the full special teams including as well. Okay, just because
they're like special teams they only play like a third

(14:17):
of the time there, don't hate them.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
They're they're a big contributed to what we're doing here.
That's what it sounds like, a bossy They're a big
contribute to what we're trying to accomplish, you guys. Yeah, hey, listen,
you know what. Listen. They take any play for granted.

Speaker 5 (14:30):
A big punt with a minute left, pin them down
to their own territory. Yeah, that's special teams, brother, yep, unbelievable. Yeah,
I don't know why you're the disdain you have. Yeah
for the fact that, well it's called jealousy that you're
not off it is.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yeah, why not?

Speaker 4 (14:48):
I I respect you? Yeah, there's there's I'll respect you
in the morning too. When what about before I promise
I'll respect you in the morning. Well, yeah, you know
how you do. Oh yeah, it's okay. I mean it's
okay to hate though, but I'll talk you in to
being a full team player here soon.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
All right, well, I got you. I'll look forward to that.
I know we're tight. Yeah, exactly, we are all.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
Let's hear from Joe Spota in the clubhouse last night,
he was asked about disrupting the flow of things as
a rookie manager.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
This is Joe Spota because I've been here. It's in
my blood.

Speaker 6 (15:21):
I know.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
I know the heartbeat of this group. You know, and
you you know we all are hearts. They all beat
the same way.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
If if if I panic, if if my stuff starts
beating too fast, and I show you know I'm the leader.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
But we gotta we gotta stay together.

Speaker 9 (15:39):
Man.

Speaker 8 (15:39):
This this is a special special group.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
One one, one band or one.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
One heart beat, one heart beat. Right right out of
there on school, he was fired up. Rookie manager wins
the division after all. This good on him.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Yeah, a lot of people that were questioning some things
from him early on.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Now for him, and he has been here, he's seen it.
But when you're the first guy on that top step now,
as Joe spot is, the postseason is different. Postseasons different
in every sport.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
There's three layers to it. There's the kind of four.
There's the spring training get him ready, which he's always
done even when he's not been the manager.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
That's been a calling card of his.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
Then there's the get you through the season, ups and
downs of it, and stay balanced and get through that.
Then there's the stretch run where you've got to come
through and win normally and be in a fistfight and
it almost feels like single elimination. And then it comes
down to now now it is you go on a
cold streak and you go home. So and he's got
him through three and anxious to see what happens here

(16:50):
starting next Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Yeah, it's next Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
Looks like it's going to be the Tigers coming into
town for the Houston Astros. I think when you look
at how this season started and how a lot of
I would just say, the fans and fan base questioned
Joe Espota and some of the things that he was doing,
and then obviously with injuries and.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Question yeah I meantime, yeah, it's normal.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
Yeah, I think there was a lot of For me,
I think there was a lot of early moves, early
pinch hits that you questioned. They were a little frustrating,
like you're getting you're you're like, uh, take take Jake
Myers for instance. Remember there was a couple of times
where he was pinch hitting for Jake Myers in the
fifth inning in like the first twenty five games. Well,

(17:39):
he told us all spring training that he was your
guy and you want confidence. Yet you're pinch hitting from
in the fifth right, So those those are just little
instances throughout the season. And but he like like at
the end of the day, he's been here for a
while now. He does know the clubhouse culture, the heartbeat,
you know everything that he said in that audio, and good,
good for good for him if it isn't for what's

(18:02):
the manager's name for the Guardians, Stephen Vaught voight, however
you pronounce v O g h T.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
He's gonna win.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
He's gonna win Manager of the Year, and rightfully so,
Joe Spotti should be second.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
Yeah, and I get.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
That that makes perfect sense, and that's fair. But he's
done a hell of a job and you know, I
think we'll going into the season. My biggest concern was
is he too close to the players to discipline right,
be willing to bench a guy, be willing to make changes,
and you know from the abray you stuff who's playing

(18:35):
first base to who I mean, all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
That he I mean, I completely forgot Jose.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
It feels like it was last year crazy, but all
those things that you have to navigate, and in truth,
he did a good job and proved that the players,
you know, the players didn't take him for granted, which
was you know, it's it's normal when you run when
you're guys, when you're the buddy, you're the guy that
go to uh at times during when you're the you know,
it's like okay, But when you become the manager. Now

(19:03):
it's like a coach who's been your coach for fifteen years,
ten years, whatever it is. And then he goes upstairs
and is the front office guy, and you're like, yeh,
that's the guy I leaned on all the time.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Can I trust him now? Is or is he a suit?

Speaker 4 (19:16):
It's the same thing. Well, you're the assistant. Now that
he's the manager, can I address him and trust him
the same way? And players think like that the second
you go upstairs and for him, oh man, here's one
of us. Now he's a manager. Oh do we got
to treat it a little different. But he's still or
I treating it different. That's my guy man. I could
do whatever I want, and neither the players nor the

(19:37):
manager took that for granted. And here they are and
now they get some rest, they get to focus on Now.
It's almost like you can dial in like it's your
off seat, you know, like I'm saying at the plate,
you can dial in for the next week and you're
at bats trying to get your rhythm as opposed to
the stress of do I drive in a run when
we're up a game and we need one game to
clinch us. That's the take that pressure off. Now you're

(19:58):
in the let's get into rhythm mode. So when we
hit the ground running next Tuesday, we are at our
peak performance.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
Seven seven ninety is the number to join as we
continue to talk about these Houston Houston Astros winning the
AO West Division once again four straight years. Jason Hayward
was acquired just a couple of weeks ago and he's
put an impact into this lineup.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
He hit a two run bomb last night.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
He spoke to the media for the game last night,
and also we have some audio from the general manager,
Dana Brown. What did he say about winning another division
as a general manager for the Astros. We'll discuss the
next right here on Sports Talk seven ninety Marucci Hitters

It's the Marucci Hitters House, Houston. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
See it from Dana Brown. He was in the clubhouse
last night celebrating. He was asked about bringing in the

(21:51):
veterans and trying to form a World Series roster.

Speaker 10 (21:55):
You know it starts with Matt Hogan. Matt Hoogan gives
us great recommendations. His recommendations, We took a look at it.
We felt like Hayward was really good and his leadership
is He's a veteran. He had power, he could play defense,
and we saw a lot of it on display there.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
We go, sound like a party of that happened in there.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
What to get that guy's been man, Dana Brown, Yeah,
but what a get Jason Heyward's been.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
Remember when he came here, we.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Said, stabilize that depth, just to pro everywhere he goes
there's an impact of some sort. And everybody that talks
about like that's the guy you want on your team.
Around the league. Wherever he's been, he's been that guy,
and I'm sure he's pumped to be here and man
alive as he helped.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
He was one for three last night with.

Speaker 5 (22:42):
A two run bomb to put the Astros ahead late
in that game, or not late in the game. I
felt like late in the game. That was in the
fifth inning. Then it was Zeros After that six, seventh, eighth,
and ninth. The Astros only had two times where they
had runners in scoring position. They went one for two
of the left there on base, but it didn't matter.
They took care business and got that win from er

(23:02):
Valdez on the mountain. Five and two thirds, eight hits,
three earned runs, two walks, four k's not his best,
but still kept the Astros in at Brian and Bray
you inning in a third, Ryan Presley two thirds of anning,
Josh Hater excuse me comes in, gets his thirty fourth
save of the season and inning in a third. Three
strike my goodness, three strikeouts. He looked pretty good last

(23:27):
night as well. Seven one, three, two, one two five
seven ninety is the number to join Eric.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Good morning, Good morning guys, love the show, Thank you,
what's happening?

Speaker 11 (23:39):
Oh yeah, just on Joe A spot. I though I
was definitely one of those that kind of thought he
was in over his head. Sean, I kind of agreed
with you. Maybe he's too much of a player's coach.
It's crazy this this season seems like it was so
long ago. But when we were talking about the during
the trade line, we were even if you can imagine,
talking about scrapping the team and rebuilding, because it was

(24:02):
about that time and that was kind of the climate
that we were in in May. And what a job
Joe A. Spoduct did and just staying calm, staying still,
letting the process happen. You know, I select coach myself.
I always talked to kids to let that process happen.
We have to do that as coaches as well. He
did a great job of doing that, you know, filling

(24:22):
the shoes of Dusty. Of Dusty was not going to
be easy, but real proud of the way that he
hung in there and stayed calm, weathered the storm. He
deserves everything he's getting right now.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Appreciate the call, Eric, great stuff, Eric, Thank you couldn't
agree more so. I continue to roll on these phone lines. Al,
welcome in, Hey, good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 12 (24:46):
How about those astros.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
I just wanted to.

Speaker 12 (24:51):
Say two things. Who want to say thank you for
I had to go to bed early last night. I
got to see right to the end of the game,
but none of this celebration. Thank you guys for governing
that and playing it on the radio this morning.

Speaker 13 (25:05):
So we could hear that.

Speaker 12 (25:07):
Brian, I'm with you, man. I didn't think they could
do it early on. I didn't think they could turn
it around. But they they did a great job. Josponna
probably deserves to be the manager of the year, whether
he gets it or not, and uh uh so. But

(25:27):
I'm just glad they won. And now I've got the
weekend to uh relax and put my concentration on my
fighting Irish. What do you think, Sean, we're gonna beat Louisville?

Speaker 6 (25:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (25:41):
I think. You know what's crazy?

Speaker 4 (25:43):
It feels to me like Louisville's one of the least
talked about good teams in the country. That that's gonna
be they really are. That's a good football team. They're
I don't even know what their record is right now,
but they they're they're doing their thing, and not a
lot of people when we talk about the big scope
or they they're they're kind of afterthought talk, but they've
done a hell of a job brom and they're they're

(26:04):
doing good things at Louisville. Yeah, I think Notre Dame
is gonna win. This is Notre Dame. You know, start
at one game early where it's like what the hell
is going on with them? And then they jump back
into it obviously. You know they're gonna play defense, and
as long as they get production at the quarterback position,
it's going to be a close game. This is a
dangerous game because Louisville is a good football team. But
give me Notre Dame and a close one.

Speaker 6 (26:26):
Oh good. I'm glad.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
I always well, I've been wrong before it only once though, No, Yeah,
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Let's hope. I just want. I can't wait till Scie
and Notre Dame get together.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Hopefully they'll all go on winning streaks and that rival
real uh be for something big at that point in
time because both have playoff aspirations.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
So we'll see.

Speaker 12 (26:47):
Yes, sir, Hey, you guys, have a great day, a
good weekend, and we'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
You let's keep it going. Talk to Damian. Damian welcome
make good morning.

Speaker 6 (26:58):
Yo, good morning fellers.

Speaker 14 (27:00):
I just I just want to say, man, I believe
this season. I know, I know we still we still
now that the hard part, the even harder part coming up.
But I believe this season just a you know, a
testament of the resiliency that these astros are shown over
the years. You know, when that backs up against the wall,
they fight, they fight and they claw and they they
find a way to, you know, to get it done.

(27:22):
I also want to, you know, uh, give a shout
out to Dana, to Dana Brown for staying. Of course,
he comes on, you guys.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Show, Uh what is it? What is When does it
come on?

Speaker 14 (27:33):
Is it Wednesday?

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Every day?

Speaker 4 (27:34):
I mean every Wednesday at so you'll hear on till.

Speaker 14 (27:37):
Wednesday, and he comes on, he talks to you guys,
and I know sometimes we question, you know, what he's done,
especially when he got rid of a few guys picked
up Kokuchi. But that Kakuchie shining looked like to be
one of the biggest signings this year. So I just
want to, you know, give a shout out to them
guys for that man and he I believe, I really believe.

(27:59):
I don't know if we we will win to win
the title. But I believe they'll go out swinging so
and I'm hoping they do win the title. But yeah,
I'm just I'm excited and say what they gonna do next?

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Thank you, Damien.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
Hey, let's get to a Roger seven one, three, two, two, five,
seven nineties and number to join talking taking all your
reactions on the Astros winning the AL West for the
fourth straight year.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Roger, what's happening?

Speaker 15 (28:26):
Good morning, guys, what a great day.

Speaker 6 (28:28):
Hey?

Speaker 13 (28:29):
You know what you know b Sean.

Speaker 15 (28:30):
You know me right, I was always one calling and
complaining about data this day of that. I was one
of the biggest ones that was crying about the low
carafito for Tacucci.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
And and whatnot.

Speaker 15 (28:41):
But you know one thing's for sure, Uh, neither I
or Jeff Bag will belong to that front office. That means,
that's what That's what that means.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Also, you know, I'd.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Rather have you in that I'd rather have you in
that front office than Jack Bagwell.

Speaker 15 (28:56):
Oh man, thanks appreciate it. Anyway, soing forward, Yeah, we
ain't doing nothing with that big, that big full fow
in the lineup.

Speaker 6 (29:04):
You already know that. So in that regard.

Speaker 15 (29:06):
I just hope this guy gets healthy and gets healthy
fast and then get from bats into that Cleveland series.

Speaker 6 (29:11):
And move on.

Speaker 16 (29:12):
And uh, you.

Speaker 15 (29:13):
Know that Jay Hay pick up man that might that
looks like an X factor to me.

Speaker 16 (29:17):
That popped down to the back back of that lineup.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
That's a needed That's all I needed.

Speaker 17 (29:21):
Boost.

Speaker 16 (29:22):
Man, he's got some toughness and grit that I didn't
know about him.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
About it, I didn't really know too.

Speaker 16 (29:25):
Much about this cat, but man, he seems to be
a nice fit for us. And uh and that was it. Man,
That's well basically all I had. Man that uh you
know that that uh Seattle they don't make the playoffs.

Speaker 15 (29:36):
You know, I think I think we got the best
pitching out there as far as uh as far as
starter for starters. So we're gonna put that old, that
old uh wisdom to the test of good hitting. Good
pitching beats good hitting. So I really hope that's gonna
be our key ingredient to winning another ship. So that's
all I got for listen, let's uh, let's celebrate this

(29:56):
win and move on.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (29:58):

Speaker 1 (31:52):
I don't think that is you don't think so.

Speaker 5 (31:54):
No, uh uh, that's what you're gonna Tripley, are you
a basic white guy?

Speaker 1 (31:58):
I Am not. See got some every day?

Speaker 5 (32:00):
And then he'll throw some basic white guy traits are there? Yeah,
just as he does a good impression of the white guy.
You ever heard it, Hi, Sean, Sean Triple try to
give us a little bit personation of of a basic
white guy talking about the Astros winning. I come on, man,
come on, just give us a little bits.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
One dude, it's the dude for me.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
That's the only thing you could be going, basic white guy.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Sure, you could be rolling along, everything's going good.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
Then when you say dude, yeah, dude, all of a
sudden you ship the basic white guy, right the Astros one?

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Bro?

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Yeah, well if you throw Brosky in there, yeah, yeah, bro,
don't do that, dang Broski. The Stros you know, they're inevitable.

Speaker 12 (32:43):
Bro.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Nobody talks like that in this city. Yeah, in this city, Yeah,
they do.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
They got some.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
They got some bros out there, Like, what do you
call them when they're you call them fan boys whatever.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
There's a lot of family, But what do you call
them when they're brown? Up? Yeah? What do we call
they're brown up up, well, growing up dorks.

Speaker 5 (33:03):
See see younger generation man with their their perms, and
you know they're like, bro, dead ass bro. That's a
real thing. I hear it from my fifteen year old players.
But they're not. You know, they're not dorks. They're fifteen
year old, right, they're fifteen year olds. I'mture dorks, right.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
But then you hear like these nineteen year olds that
are carrying tripods at the gym and you hear them
talking the son into each other.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Huh yeah, no they're not.

Speaker 4 (33:28):
But no, that's the whole thing jack though, No, but
they did they miss caf de.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Yeah, they're like, you know, probably one hundred and eighty
pounds soa can win. They walk around like they're weighing
in at to forty with like eight percent body fat.

Speaker 4 (33:40):
Why are you shaving eight percent? Why are you shaving
body fat? I think that's what I got, like seven
or eight, But who's counting? I mean, that's that's bad.
It's not good. Oh if you when you're below ten
percent is actually pretty good, is it?

Speaker 6 (33:50):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Yeah? I thought like.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Clerc, if you're to ten percent or lower, I probably
got like that close. When you're four probably not. Yeah,
but when you when you get to a certain age,
you're there, you'll you can that's suffice. If you get
yourself five to in your mid thirties, okay, you know
you recognize yeah better.

Speaker 5 (34:10):
So yeah, it's it's a real thing. Dead ass bro,
Asha was won last night?

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Why do you got to make the Hawaii? Hey?

Speaker 18 (34:17):
Bro?

Speaker 4 (34:17):
And and and move your wrist too. That's what it's like.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
What is going on? I mean, I understand how often
you're moving your wrist, but you know, I'm.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
Just saying, you know, a lot of We've had quite
a bit of people after you know, uh seeing the
A team three to six here on Sports Talk seven y.
Also on Space City Home Network, we've had some people
call in and say they want us on TV. Can
you blame them? No, I don't blame them. It should
be fall four hours Space City Home Network. Why why
is Space City keeping the money makers on the TV.
That's what I'm saying, dude, because could you imagine throwing
this up on TV? Bro looking dead ass in that camera?

Speaker 4 (34:51):
You're on the dead as. You've got a lot of
dead ass talk this morning to get yourself. I am uh,
I'm all four. I mean, give the people what they want.
That's what I'm saying. I mean, don't just it's not
just about the voice. No money maker on TV. I mean,
does the Space City want four more hours of ratings? Yes,
put live program to put the money makers on. I
don't know anybody over there, and if you do, let's

(35:12):
let's get it done.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Don't don't bury the lead. That's what I'm saying. Okay,
not just about the boy, but you can throw the
money maker. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
Your yours will look a little bit better than mine.
I'll have to dress a little bit better, but that's fine.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
You've been You've been known to step up. Yeah. I
feel Ronnie will step up too. I sure will. Seven
seven Ronnie, good morning, Good morning guys.

Speaker 19 (35:35):
I would volunteer to replace one of you guys. If
they want to get rid of somebody to improve your ratings.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Well, we don't, we know, we don't want the station
to shut down.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Ronnie, you're more of the welcome to come on here,
to join us and and be just as dumb ass
as we are.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
They'd be great, brother. Yeah.

Speaker 19 (35:55):
Well, hey, I don't have to I don't have to
work hard to do that. That's my wife.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
There you go, bro, what's on your mind?

Speaker 20 (36:01):
Mind?

Speaker 19 (36:02):
Well, two things.

Speaker 6 (36:03):
One.

Speaker 19 (36:04):
At the beginning of the year, everybody was talking about,
you know, okay, well, if the Astros don't get to
the World Series, or if they don't win the World Series,
the season will have been a failure. What do you
think now, given what they've been through, given what the
organization has been through individual players. I mean, I don't

(36:25):
want them to lose to aj Hinch in the wild Card.
I would be a big time disappointment. But if they
let's say, if they make it to the ALCS and
lose out two, I don't know, Baltimore or whatever, I
wouldn't I wouldn't. I won't say I wouldn't want to
lose to Baltimore, but I wouldn't mind because that's a
good team and they got half of our organization front

(36:47):
office organization on their staff. Anyway, But I don't think
this season will have been a failure.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
No, just just come up short for what they wanted
at the beginning. But considering all they have, you'd have
to consider a major success. But the big success comes
with a win. But not many Excuse me, I'm not
making that. I know you aren't either, Ronnie about built
in excuse. Well, if we lose, it's okay because what
we've overcome. Once you're in the postseason, they're not going
to make the excuse. They're gonna want to They've getting

(37:13):
their players healthy and they're good enough to win the
whole thing. They will have fallen short if they don't go.
But considering the circumstances, there's no way you can consider
this season of failure. From here on, they're the division
winners with eighty five injuries. It's been pretty impressive, right,
I'm with you.

Speaker 19 (37:29):
Yeah, And I know it's a little earlier. I'll say early,
it's not maybe the right time. But see if you
can get Dana to talk a little bit, just get
a little bit of love to the Space Cowboys, because
they're kicking some serious butt down there in the PCL.
They could win the league championship tonight. And there's some

(37:50):
guys on that pitching staff who are going to be
pushing in spring training to try to push their way
onto the Astros staff, and Dana's going to have a
tough job to do in the off season trying to
figure out who to keep, who to trade, what to do.
Maybe I know he won't give any trade secrets, but
just getting to even get him to give a little
love to the Space Cowboys because they deserve it.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Sure will thank you, Ronnie. I call them the Gangsters
of Love. Space Cowboy. See that you know the cut,
right I do? Ronnie's right, you know. I do want
to ask Dana Brown at some point, whether it fits
today or not, because the celebration and the team. I
wonder how he'd rank our farm system right now considering

(38:33):
all that. But you know what I'm saying, not not
with the baseball what they're ranked in, you know, in
Baseball America and all that stuff, the farmcists. I wonder
how he feels about the farmacists because they've had some
guys come up that you didn't didn't expect.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
The impact that have.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
I know the depth is different, but I wonder how
he feels about the strength of this farm system. I
really do, in his mind, not not in somebody inside
the organization, how they feel. At some point we'll get
to that. Maybe it'll be today. I know, we got
some celebration talking, and then where we go from here.
And obviously now that they're in they they have World

(39:08):
Series aspirations. That's the number number one goals win the division, right,
I mean, I mean the first goal should I right?
And now the rest has got to come into play.
And now you got to put that your feet off
the good stuff, blow out the stuff you don't need.
And I don't want to say take it game to
game because that drives me crazy, because that's all you
gotta do. But you gotta go ahead. So you've got
to get in post season rhythm. Say it, take a

(39:29):
one game at a time. I mean, I don't know
how you could take it two games a time. You case,
you're playing two at the same time, right, but split
like in spring training? Oh yeah, yeah, like a split squad. Yeah,
we're not doing that in post probably not in October.
I don't think so. I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (39:41):
All right, let's get into the seven o'clock hour phone

Good morning.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
What's happening.

Speaker 9 (41:33):
Oh, well, let's see. Congratulations to the hometown team that's
in order. Uh they're great. You know that's good. Uh,
we're Astro fans over here. Anyway, I was wondering the
way it's playing out. So they the Astro didn't drove

(41:54):
by because they're the third seed, right, correct, So the
two first teams drove by. Okay, now breaking it down,
breaking it down, Okay, the Astros if they you know,
once they get in there, they have the Mariners have

(42:15):
to because they travel to uh the Athletics, correct, yes,
and then after that and oh, it'll all play out probably.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
See are you trying to see if the Mariners can get.

Speaker 9 (42:29):
In Well, no, I'm just trying to see how everything's
playing saying.

Speaker 5 (42:33):
Out the Astros. The Astros are are most likely going
to be in the wild card against the Tigers, and
on the other side it would be the Royals and
the Orioles in the other wild Card. The Astros and
Tigers winner would play the Cleveland Guardians, and then the
Royals and Orioles winner would play the Yankees in the Alds.

Speaker 4 (42:56):
You have real quick for John as well have in
front of you. How far away are they from the
second going it? From the second seed? They were you
talking about the Ashers? They were five, they were five out,
five out yesterday. Yes, okay, they're not getting so they're
gonna they're gonna stay the third seed and then they're
gonna they're gonna they're not gonna get to buy. So

(43:17):
I was just wondering if they close that down over
the last couple of days. But five games with what
four to play?

Speaker 9 (43:22):
Yeah, I was just wondering, you know, but it's all
so it'll all be sorted out on the first of October.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
And know which way you're going, you know, yes I will.

Speaker 9 (43:36):
But that's I congratulate these guys. It's been hard, you know,
too bad. I feel bad about mister uh what's his name,
Alba is you know, gosh, that's a big loss there.

Speaker 5 (43:49):
Well he's not, I mean, there is not a loss yet.
He's supposed to be playing this weekend in Cleveland, so that's.

Speaker 9 (43:55):
Well, good luck to these guys, and you know, great
show all the time.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Shates you, John, thank you for calling.

Speaker 5 (44:01):

Speaker 22 (44:10):
Well, first of all, you know, congratulations to the Houston Astros.

Speaker 23 (44:14):
Of course in my hometown.

Speaker 22 (44:16):
You know, I live here, born and raised, loved, loved
the team, love them. Uh but you know, from the
performances we had, you know, with with the Marrier, with
the Mariner yesterday, well in the day on Monday, how
confident are we? I mean, how confident are you guys?
You know, just look give me, you know some you know,

(44:37):
what what you guys feel coming into the postseason with
the bullpen? You know, uh, just you know, that's pretty
much it. That's pretty much all I got. Uh yeah,
I just want to hear from you guys what you
guys feel. How confident are we? You know, how are
we going to do this postseason coming up? You know
with this bullpen? Hopefully obviously hopefully we got to come

(45:01):
back healthy as possible and you know, come back and
win it all, you know. But yeah, once again, congratulations
with the Houston Astros. And I'm very happy.

Speaker 1 (45:13):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
I appreciate Hulio. I'm confident with him because they're gonna
use somebody the starters as well. It just strengthened the
bull strengthens the bullpen. I don't consider the bullpen a detriment,
do you?

Speaker 1 (45:25):
And I'm not. I mean Monday Night.

Speaker 4 (45:26):
I mean there's been times, but find me a find
me a team that's in the postseason. Its bullpen didn't
falter at times during the year. Yeah, and considering what
they've had to do in some of the guys that
have stepped their ass up throughout the year, I'll take it.
And when it gets right down to it, do I postseason?
Ryan Presley, how good's he been? That's exactly right? And

(45:47):
I trust to Bray you and Hater's going to have
an opportunity to close games and he's got what thirty
four to thirty five saves thirty four? There you go.
So I'm I believe the bullpen. They may have a
struggle in a game or two. Who you just don't
want it to be in the first series because then
you get yourself in trouble.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
But I believe in them.

Speaker 4 (46:06):
Monday Night has no bearing for me on how good
the bullpen is you just can't have many of those nights.
And depending on who you use and when you use them,
I would imagine and if you get Fromber and Hunter
Brown and Kakuchi rolling into the six or seventh inning,
you'll be able to use your base guys without wearing
them out. So it's when that long struggle and that's

(46:27):
then again where the Spencer Arraghetties or Verlanders or Renelle
Blanco's come into play. I only think the bullpen is
going to get stronger with the with the the arms
that they're gonna I would think plug in there in
a relief situation that could be a starter if you
needed them. Like let's say somebody gets blown out in
the first inning and Blanco and bring him in and
he can give you four innings or five innings.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
So I'm okay with I don't consider Oh.

Speaker 4 (46:51):
Tell you what, the consistent hitting throughout the entire postseason
is still a bigger concern for me. Scoring position, Yeah,
that's still a bigger concern. But if you trust anybody
to fix it, I think this team's capable with the
line when they're going good. Opposing pitching wants no part
of it. Yeah, no Ques especially in October. Man, these
dreams different in October, agreed, biscuit.

Speaker 23 (47:12):
Welcome in, gentlemen, gentlemen, Hey Sean, before I get to
my point, man, I think Ronnie earlier said would the
season be a failure if he's doing we reached the
World Series?

Speaker 6 (47:25):
Well, my my.

Speaker 23 (47:27):
Response to that, Shine is the standard is the standard?
You know, I mean we you know, it's World Series
of bust around here.

Speaker 13 (47:33):
Now.

Speaker 23 (47:34):
You know, we realize that they have some issues throughout
the season, but we're not find the back off the
standard now, you know. We Yeah, we did a disappointed
I don't know about, but it'd be a disappointment, that's
what I don't world.

Speaker 4 (47:46):
Yeah, and I think that's what he met, right, I mean,
I know there are people saying what a fair but
considering what they've been through, yeah, they're not thinking going
into the playoffs, Okay, we've reached our goal.

Speaker 1 (47:55):
Now the rest is gravy.

Speaker 4 (47:56):
That's not who that that That's what maybe somebody like
Kansas City would if Miami was in the playoffs. Right,
Hey man, we got an opportunity here. We we've already
exceeded our goals. Let's go do this again. I mean
their goal is to win a World Series. If they don't,
it will be a disappointment regardless what happened. But failure
be now Now for the Dodgers, considering where they've been
all year long and all the and I know they've

(48:17):
had some health issues too, I would consider that a
failure for them because of all the all in that
they've gone and they've come up short other than the
twenty twenty season, I can put that on them. But
with the Astros, more of a disappointment now if they'd
have been healthy the whole year, yes, I would consider
it falling way short of their goal. And I don't
think that they'd be happy with just a division, So

(48:38):
disappointment more than failure.

Speaker 23 (48:41):
Let me let me say this, Lma. Back in March
or April, I think you asked me the question, how
do you judge just by how you did Dana Brown,
I said, well, we got to see what happens the
whole season. Let's go through the season. Let's see what happens.
And I'm me let me ask you this. We don't

(49:01):
make the playoffs if we don't get Kokuchi and may Shine.
You're boys lit up?

Speaker 14 (49:08):
People?

Speaker 23 (49:08):
Was killing danvid Brown about the Kokuchie trade. If we
don't trade for Kokuchie, we don't make the playoffs, in
my opinion. And so a spot of when they were
down twelve and twenty four.

Speaker 1 (49:21):
Yeah, twelve and twenty four and then at one points.

Speaker 23 (49:24):
Ready running out of town on the horse. You know, hey, man,
like I say, you've always got to wait to the end.

Speaker 6 (49:30):
Man, you can't.

Speaker 23 (49:31):
Grade mid way through. You gotta wait to the end.
And so you know, you gotta give a spot of
its due credit. You gotta give Dana Brown they due credit.
I mean Dana Brown.

Speaker 1 (49:41):
That pick up a Hayward.

Speaker 23 (49:43):
That looks like that's gonna be another great move. So
I mean, I just think that the Astros we're gonna
have to win it different this year, that's all. It's
not gonna be the best. If we lose, it's not
gonna be because of the bullpen and started pitching, and
we lose it don't make it to the World Series.
I suspect it's gonna be we didn't hit.

Speaker 4 (50:00):
Lack of hitting. Couldn't couldn't agree more. And Biscuit, you
make a great point. Thanks for the call, brother, Always
appreciate you. Is the moves of Hayward and we said
it earlier in the six o'clock hour. The moves of
Hayward and Kokuchi brilliant. Yeah, and they will have and
they at some point they will impact the postseason. Kokuchi's

(50:21):
come over here, You know what, remind Now, I'm not
saying the dominant performance, and I don't don't don't think
I'm comparing the two pitchers, but the situation is eerily
similar to two other situations. Verlander's impact when he came
from Detroit in seventeen and go back to when Randy
Johnson was here and you rented him for half a season.
Now hopefully it's this isn't a rental that you can

(50:42):
get Kokuch. It's going to cost you. Now that's the
that's the bittersweet part of it. You went and got
him and you wanted to pitch great, Yet it's going
to cost you more to keep him and you want that. Oh,
he can be an overpowering left hander. And he's been
fantastic since he's been here, has not lost the team
is not lost nine and zero, Yes, since he's been here.
And remember I believe Randy Johnson was ten and one, Yeah,

(51:03):
was he not?

Speaker 6 (51:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (51:03):
He was so with similar situations. Bring him in.

Speaker 4 (51:06):
What's the impact. It could be a rental and you
may not sign him. But man, we said, it's not
a failure. It's it's it's it's even if you rented him,
you win the trade. If they go on and win
the World Series regardless of what the other three Cats
do in Toronto. Yeah, and they have, they have won it.
And then the Hayward edition for depth has been phenomenal. Yeah,
take a bow Man, a quick one because I know

(51:27):
the postseasons there and then not ready to take one yet,
but great brilliant moves that most Hayward. Yeah, I was
kind of just snuck in there, go get him. The
Kakuchi move was the best move at the trade deadline.
That this the baseball scene this year, at least his
impact on this team. The impact here nine nine to zero.
When he starts on the mountain, the Astros are and
he's getting better every single time, going deeper in games,

(51:49):
no doubt about it.

Speaker 5 (51:50):
And we're gonna have Astros general manager Dana Brown. He's
going to join the show at nine thirty this morning,
seven one three two on two five, seven ninety. We
will continue to take your calls on these Houston Astros
winning AO West. But let's get to the steak out
next to sport Stalk seven to eighty.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
We're gonna have to turn this matter over to Sean.

Speaker 8 (52:07):
Oh no more, Shawn Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (52:17):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 8 (52:20):
The Salisbury Steakouts, Salisbury takeout on.

Speaker 1 (52:24):
The Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (52:26):
It's time for the steak out here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Sean Salisbury, Brian Lima, Emmanuel Elmore. Astros back
in action today, one ten, the first pitch Noon on
Deck Show. Right here on seven ninety, you're home for
Astros baseball. They are the AL West Division champs. They
beat the Mariners last night seven one, three, two five, sevenighty.
Before we get to the stakeouts, to take a couple
of quick calls, Alex, welcome in.

Speaker 1 (52:49):
Morn of Bellas.

Speaker 18 (52:50):
Hope you all'll do it fantastic this morning after the
Astros took care of business, I just want to say
that to everybody is doubting. Joe Spata and Dana Brown,
y'all can all go suck on a lemon. I was

(53:10):
stressing early because there were twelve games below five, ten
games out.

Speaker 1 (53:15):
But I mean it's Houston, man, no doubt, no doubt.
They were gonna be here in some form or fashion.

Speaker 18 (53:22):
This is what they have built this team to do,
sustain greatness and be here. I'm so excited to see
where they go. Whether it's in the first seed or
the third seed, it does not matter. They're primed and
ready to go for this. Get Alvarez back, get him
a few swings in with the Cleveland series, and let

(53:43):
him go tear it up in the postseason. Y'all have
a good day, go astros, and let's do this thing.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
Thank you, Alex. Suck on, Elemon Sean.

Speaker 4 (53:56):
It's a lot of lembs to be sucking on, considering
what people thought early in the season. Reason it is,
but they took care of their business, stayed the course
when a lot of us wondered.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
If they could, and good for them. Just get out
to the south side. Good morning, is it Shane Lynn? Yeah,
that's right, okay.

Speaker 5 (54:13):
I just want to make sure I ask what's going
on man the shay.

Speaker 24 (54:18):
A couple of callers ago, someone mentioned getting to buy
and not getting to buy, you know, as a third
seed five, they went to the format two years ago,
five of the eight teams that had made lcs's were
wild card round team. The two of the three that
weren't were the Astros actually, and then the World Series
four out of the four teams, three of them were
wildcardart distance. So there's a really good chance. And we're

(54:39):
actually set up really well with our top three starters
the wildcard round because they're an extra payoff in the
ALDS this year, so it actually could be where our
top three starters pitch exclusively, and if we have to
go to number four, that's Blanco anyway. So we're in
really good shape. I thanks for the playoffs, tont so
we can get our backs going and Spot uses a bullpen. Well,
I think it will be in really good shape.

Speaker 4 (55:00):
Appreciate the call. It's a great point. Yeah, no doubt
about it. And you want though, you want exclusively. It'd
be nice to be able to use those front three,
which will be from Hunter, Brown and and Kakouchi.

Speaker 1 (55:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (55:11):
Uh, let's uh all right, Let's go to Gil and
then I gotta get I gotta bring up this for
the steakout.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
Gil. Good morning going on, Brian? Hey, what's up now?

Speaker 25 (55:21):
Brian?

Speaker 6 (55:22):
Uh? You go hang up with me if you don't
agree with me.

Speaker 1 (55:25):
Are you When have I ever hung up on you? Gil?
Come on, man, stop talking out of your ass. Last
time I called, no, that's false about Dion.

Speaker 5 (55:33):
Oh yeah, but yeah yeah, Gil, you were just like,
remember no, but I didn't.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
I didn't no, no, no.

Speaker 5 (55:38):
I hung up on you because we had to get
to the top of the hour. I didn't hang up
on you because I agreed with you.

Speaker 6 (55:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (55:44):
Anyway, Hey, but who's counting?

Speaker 1 (55:46):
You don't get off?

Speaker 6 (55:50):
Hey, hang on? Meant to call back.

Speaker 1 (55:53):
I love you guy. You to Gil? What's up? So
I see in your notes you remember call in?

Speaker 22 (56:00):
I do remember calling heard of the season when everybody
was giving a spot and get his ass.

Speaker 23 (56:05):
Excuse me, but.

Speaker 6 (56:06):
Out of here.

Speaker 1 (56:08):
No, Gil Us, you're okay.

Speaker 23 (56:11):
And I told y'all that's the man.

Speaker 22 (56:13):
Just because he doesn't yell when cuss like regular managers,
he's gonna be okay.

Speaker 7 (56:18):
Uh.

Speaker 23 (56:19):
And how's he doing?

Speaker 25 (56:21):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (56:21):
Well? They just won the West? Yeah, I mean they're
doing yeah, huh.

Speaker 13 (56:25):
We haven't.

Speaker 23 (56:26):
We haven't got there to the end.

Speaker 17 (56:27):
But I'll tell you what.

Speaker 6 (56:29):
The man hasn't.

Speaker 23 (56:30):
Changed his attitude.

Speaker 13 (56:30):
He's the same, calm collective, and I think.

Speaker 6 (56:33):
He's gonna be okay.

Speaker 1 (56:35):
So Gil, did I agree with the guy before.

Speaker 6 (56:39):
That's why he reads I'm calling.

Speaker 13 (56:41):
I agree with him because he said so.

Speaker 1 (56:44):
So now what, Well, we got to win in October.

Speaker 6 (56:48):
Well, that's true.

Speaker 1 (56:49):
We gotta get you. We gotta get your back.

Speaker 5 (56:51):
That's a good point to get him back because they
need him in the place.

Speaker 6 (56:55):
To get him back.

Speaker 13 (56:56):
So you think that you guys think that uh Uhlander
is gonna make get to the roster.

Speaker 1 (57:02):
Not in the wildcard, no.

Speaker 6 (57:03):
No, not in the wild card, but after that.

Speaker 4 (57:06):
I don't believe you're leaving him off the postseason roster. Fully,
I just don't.

Speaker 1 (57:10):
I think I'll pitch an Alds right. I would hope,
I would hope.

Speaker 23 (57:13):
Not too much respect for him, but uh anyway.

Speaker 1 (57:16):
All right, guys, I appreciate Hey.

Speaker 23 (57:18):
I love the music yesterday by the way.

Speaker 1 (57:20):
Yeah, that's that's called tejanod Tuesday, Gil dog on, right,
I love Gil.

Speaker 4 (57:25):
Have you ever noticed, though, how many people remember when
I told you, like, we mean, everybody, if we.

Speaker 1 (57:31):
Did, nobody was nobody thought that. Everybody told us.

Speaker 4 (57:35):
Now apparently that the Astros were going to cruise and
everything was fine. Yeah, I'm only I'm joking, but it's amazing.

Speaker 7 (57:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
Hey, remember when I told yeah, I remember the day,
in the minute.

Speaker 4 (57:44):
I know it was a five alarm, five alarm fire
in the first two months of the season, and even
those who did get it right still questioned that they could.
There's nobody, nobody waltz in saying this is a twelve
and twenty four. We got this, no questions out it
may we got it and felt comfortable because of who
the astros are, but there was some discomfort there. Yeah,

(58:05):
and you know what discomfort caused when you talk about injuries,
you're out for a long time. So there was some
There was some emotional discomfort by people. Even if you
got it right when you told us that this guy
is this guy, everybody had questions. Everybody, I imagine some
even in the clay in their own locker room and clubhouse,
had question I said, what the hell we got to
do to get this right? And they did. So everybody's correct.

(58:27):
You know, nobody got it wrong, no, nobody at all.
Enough about them, let's talk about us. I love it, Gil, Yeah,
I mean I do. Remember there was a lot of
people who were far more optimistic than others.

Speaker 5 (58:40):
I remember very few people were optimistic about this season.

Speaker 1 (58:45):
More that called in were panic.

Speaker 4 (58:48):
Uh were more panicked, I mean panic are like I
don't Roger comes out?

Speaker 1 (58:53):
He was right right there was who was it? Oh man?

Speaker 5 (58:56):
One of our now I wouldn't say regulars, but calls
more often than not. He was like, I'm done, like
just out of there.

Speaker 4 (59:01):
There this window is consation and rightfully so, but man,
it's I think we all wondered.

Speaker 1 (59:07):
And then is the season?

Speaker 4 (59:08):
I like, now this looks like who the Astros are?
And here they are with the chance to go win
the whole thing again? Do you want to be a
satisfying season?

Speaker 1 (59:15):
If they do?

Speaker 17 (59:15):
So?

Speaker 1 (59:16):
Here, I'm gonna give you some options here.

Speaker 5 (59:18):
Oh, do you want to extend the steak out or
do you want to have a wrath today?

Speaker 4 (59:23):
No, you can extend the steak out because it's going
to be that's a two for one. You're gonna I
know what you're gonna ask. Yeah, I think.

Speaker 5 (59:28):
Look, we're gonna have all show to discuss Astros and
the celebration.

Speaker 4 (59:31):
You need to talk about this bitch. You're talking about
a coward. This dude is a bitch and a cowardy completely.

Speaker 5 (59:36):
All right, let's let's go ahead and extend the steak
out man college football and a certain quarterback will uh, well,
we'll uh, we'll pivot away from the astros and we'll
come right back to it. But we got to talk
about this quarterback in Division one football next.

Speaker 4 (59:48):
Yeah, Country boys roofing, let's talk about that now. Uh,
if you're trying to get out in front of storms,
or let's just say you've had some issues with your
roof and you want to get out in front of
it and your whole roof and say, you know what,
I want to get this taken care of before the
next storm hits. Good, keep your family safe. Country boys
roofing country with the K boys with a Z anywhere.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):

Anywhere in Houston, gready Houston area. No job is too small,
too big, and they're there for you. So when you
do that. But if the storm's hitting you didn't get
out in front of it, it's okay. And if something's wrong,
they'll get out there with urgency and give you the
proper estimate and get you going and they won't price
gouge you. A novel concept in the way prices are
in this country. Now and then to have somebody come

(01:00:29):
in when you're under duress and stress and say, hey,
that'll cost you eighteen thousand dollars for your roof, sorry
when it shouldn't. Well, that's not who Country Boys Roofing is.
Country Boy's Roofing is there to help you. Texas Windstorm certified,
certain T and GF Shingle certified and family owned and operated.
They know because most of them have been through it themselves.
How to you know? Under duress and you don't want

(01:00:50):
somebody price gouge you. So one thousand, five hundred dollars
off your full roof when you get full roof the
estimate and get it done fifteen hundred for first responders,
educators and our military. It's a great gig. They're not
here to gougia. They're here to do proper business and
to make sure you're safe. It's Country Boys Roofing. Give
them a call eight three to two seven three one

(01:01:12):
fifty six twenty. They'll help you navigate those insurance claims too,
which suck eight three two seven three one fifty six twenty.
Country with the K Boys with a Z. It's Country
Boys Roofing, No price gouging. Just making sure you're safe
and secure anywhere in Houston. They care. Others may not,
but they do. So get out in front of it
and give them a call. Or go to Countryboys ROOFINGLLC

(01:01:33):
dot com. That's Country with the k Boys with a Z.
Countryboys ROOFINGLLC dot com.

Speaker 6 (01:01:38):
And we're fact.

Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
The Seawan Salisbury Show continued. All right, Sean, what are
you hearing out there now? The Salsbury's stakeouts. Salsbury's takeout
on the.

Speaker 8 (01:01:54):
Sean Salisbury Show. All right, We're gonna extend the stake
out here on the show. Astros general manager Dana Brown
is going to join us in about two hours at
nine thirty. Astros win the AO West for the fourth
straight year. Back in action today one to ten to
the first pitch, new non deck show right here on

(01:02:18):
seven on your home for Astros Baseball.

Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
All right, Sean, for the stakeout. The UNLV running Rebels
three to zero. In college football, they beat you of
h they beat Utah Tech, and they're coming off a
victory twelve days ago against Kansas.

Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
They have.

Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
An outside chance of being a G five college football
contender meeting. They have a chance if they go undefeated.
They could be one of those teams to sneak into
the playoff and their starting quarterback is Matthew Slucka or Sluka.

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
Excuse me, Matthew Sluca.

Speaker 5 (01:03:05):
He quit last night quick, he tweeted out from his
own account on Twitter. I have decided to utilize my
red shirt ear and will not be playing in any
additional games this season. I committed to UNLV based on
certain representations that were made to me, which were not
upheld after I enrolled. Despite discussions, it became clear that

(01:03:27):
these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I
wish my teammates the best of luck this season and
hope for the continued to excuse me success of the program.

Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Well, so, welcome to college football. A coach in a
or a recruiter lied to you or didn't give you
the full facts of what you were going to get.

Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
What a shock.

Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
Welcome to every single player that's ever been in college
football uniform. This guy's a coward. He's a coward. I
know somebody's going to come in with the woe is
me for the kids. He came from Holy Cross. Dude,
I'm sure you're a good football player. I can guarant
ask t you won't getting any nil there, okay, and UNLV,

(01:04:11):
you're playing good. How about go finish the season and
then go back into the office if nothing else, Is
there a part of the moral Value code of conduct
to your teammates?

Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
Is there part of that that goes with this?

Speaker 4 (01:04:24):
So basically, he's saying, I'm a selfish SOB, and I'm
gonna prove I'm gonna hold out on you now instead.

Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Of have the courage to do it before the season starts.

Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
If you're that oh so, you've put up three and
o season and they're playing well, So now you think
you're that valuable? Okay, and maybe you're Maybe you are.
There's a reason you're the starting quarterback. What a friggin coward? Yeah,
what a coward?

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Do a teammate?

Speaker 4 (01:04:46):
If I was UNLV right now, right say you can
continue to go to school. You're no longer welcome on
a football team. I'd pull a scholarship from him right now.
And I don't even know the details. I don't know
if he's telling us the full truth. I'm sure they
have another story. Can you imagine going to your teammates
are sending a Twitter instead of you know what, if

(01:05:06):
you really got to set stones, stand up in front
of them and say it in front of ninety guys
under eighty five scholarship players or eighty scholarship players, now
stand up there and talk to them. Go go stand
up there and talk to address him in person, if
you really got the the guts and then walk out
of the meeting. And if I vice versa both sides,
I'm sure it's somewhere in the middle.

Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
Again.

Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
Okay, I hate to tell him, but he ain't playing
at Texas and Quinn you were sorry, sorry, And he
may be a good player, and UNLV's off to a
really good start and they played well last year. But
I can tell you now if I'm the coach and
he does that too, for no other reason than the
teammates leave it forget leaving the coaches left.

Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
The teammates hanging. It's bitch, bitch, what a coward, And
I can't.

Speaker 4 (01:05:53):
I hope somebody calls said, yeah, well da, even lying,
I'd have done it too.

Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
Well, then you're a coward bitch too.

Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
If nothing else, don't you sacrifice for your teammates, make
the decision when the season's over, or if you if
you get to the point. Let's say you play well
and you want to hold out in a bowl game
like some of these guys do because they don't want
to get hurt for the NFL draft, his red shirt ear.

Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
I had a problem back in the day when.

Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
With the kid who the king, the quarterback here with
Dana and Dana let him said, memory started first three
point no, no, no, no, what's the kid's name who
started in front of Kyle Trask at high school and
ended up transferring I think to Miami.

Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
Was it one of the Florida schools.

Speaker 4 (01:06:32):
Thought they started out well or they started out struggling.

Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
I guess somewhere.

Speaker 4 (01:06:37):
Yeah, they started struggling, and he just he said I'm
gonna use my red shirt ear after they because they
started struggling. And then he set out and his career
was never the same. Dearic King, dearreck King. I'm sure
he's a good kid. I'm sure he is. But he
made a decision, Dana let him do it, sat out, transferred,
Remember he said he was going to come back, and
then he transferred in the off season or what have you,
and you really never saw him be a star again, right,

(01:07:02):
And he was a hell of a player. But this
is even work to come out because you know what
it's about money, make it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
It's about simply.

Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
About money for the kid at un LV, I'd tell
him he can't play football here next year either, So
you might want to transfer from here if we didn't
live up to what you want. You're not living up
to your you're not living up to your commitment to
your teammates. I don't want him here, go transfer again.
Everybody else seems to be doing it, na he wouldn't.
He would no longer be allowed to play football UNLV
because he let his teammates down. Forget the business side

(01:07:29):
of it. Work that off on your own idea with
setting a meeting with the coaches or the recruiter or
the nil or the collective. Okay, it ain't like UNLV's
probably carrying around a fifty million dollars collective. They're still
trying to start winning. You know, a program that's winning
and last year they did. They're doing good things there,
and all this guy does is punk his teammates and
let him down. What a frigging coward. They just just

(01:07:51):
a frigging coward. Okay, the business side I get. He
may not have got what he wanted. He transferred for
Holy Cross. They weren't giving him a dining Yeah what
we what were you promise to the point where you
had to quit to UNLV Like I said, I'm not
saying that it's not a Division one program because it
is right.

Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
But they're they're there.

Speaker 4 (01:08:09):
We're in no danger of having them have a bigger
collective than Texas A and m Okay, slow your role,
but you owe it to your teammates. I can't even
fathom walking in there and sending this out on Twitter
and leaving your teammates hanging like that. Oh you got
to take staying on business and take care of your
own No, no, you don't. Sometimes you got to think
outside of it and be a good teammate and gut

(01:08:30):
it out and then have the have the nil conversation
at the end of the year or the money you're
not getting that you wanted, because I can guarant ask
to you there ain't two million dollars waiting for you
anywhere else right now, Buddy, go be a good teammate,
keep winning, and I'll bet you your argument's even bigger
at the end of the year if you keep winning.
Or are you afraid. Maybe he's scared of the schedule.

(01:08:51):
He jumped out to three and zero. Think you know what,
I'm about as hot as I'm gonna be, So let me,
let me, let me, let.

Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
Me jump out now.

Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
Because if we lose a game or two, maybe Star
loses some of it.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Shine. What a frigging coward would they offer him? Like,
I don't know, and I don't care. I don't care. Caesars,
I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:09:09):
Know, And I said, hey, you got to go to
Harrows for your buffet, Like, well, what's the deal?

Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
I don't know if we do buffets anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:09:14):
After the VID hit, they're back at it because you
were out there, so they're back at it. I like
a good buffet, Yeah, not bad man, tell them to.
I'd give him an apple in a roadmap right now
and tell him to get to step in. He would
not be I would not after letting teammates down. He
doesn't get the red shirt and come back next year.
You can go to class if you want, dude, I'll
let you finish your education. You're not on football scholarship

(01:09:35):
anymore because they can pull that scholarship.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Anytime they want.

Speaker 4 (01:09:39):
Give him like free rebel bucks. I don't have any
idea what the cafegg. That's such a coward move to
let teammates down. But that's the nature where we are,
not a lot of I mean, I'm not putting all
the kids under the same thing because I think some
of them look with Nussmeier to hang around l s
U and not leave when he could have transferred, and
he's playing his ass off those type of guys. This

(01:09:59):
is And if I'm another school, I don't want the
guy on my team. No, he's a he's a coward.
I know what you want to call him. We're not
allowed to say. Somebody these things out here. SOLF don't
care he is and what he was promised. You know,
every single one of us has been just like, hey,
you're our guy, and two weeks before they find somebody
else that's their guy, and they pull your off for
a week and a half before you're supposed to go

(01:10:20):
to school there or did sign your letter of intent
and they go get somebody else. It works all the way,
and save the loyalty card, it doesn't exist in sports.
What exists is can you can we get better with you?
And if we can't, then you're really of no use
to us. That's the way it works. You got lied
to by a recruiter or by a university shocker, you
stand in line power.

Speaker 1 (01:10:39):
Yeah, go figure. Just a coward.

Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
And the fact that, let's hope that the parents aren't
sitting back and saying do this. I can't even fathom
with taking this to my dad. I tried that in
Little league soccer. I'm not playing for this coach, get
your ass back to practice, apologize and I was like
tenah and learned a valuable lesson. Unfortunately, this guy's learned
a lesson late. Horrible teammate.

Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
Yeah what a bitch?

Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
Yeah, horrible teammate and a full flow a full blown coward.

Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
Quit on your team when that three and oh start.

Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
If I was the guy, say that's cool, no problem, man,
you did good for three and oh.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
You know where your classes are, right, But you can't
work out in this locker room anymore because you're not
on scholarship anymore. But we'll pay for your schooling. Yeah,
we'll find somebody. And I hope the backup goes in
there and wins three straight more. It's easy team to
root for now, considering that the guy let his teammates down, No, sorry,
no hall pass here. I sleep like a baby, babe.

(01:11:34):
Yeah get that cut.

Speaker 5 (01:11:36):
You hit that note, dude, you even grab the microphone.

Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Yeah it was hog tied, two handed it man. Yeah
you're no Matthew Sluca though, thank goodness, no, yeah, thank goodness.

Speaker 6 (01:11:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:11:49):
I can't believe I got he got misled to shot.

Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
What they promised him, like some you know, like a
like like a couple of you know, a couple of
sportsbook points I have, like everyone, they're not allowed to
do that. Well, I mean you're in Las Vegas. I
mean maybe under the table deal.

Speaker 4 (01:12:07):
You know what, maybe free passes to one of the clubs,
Sunday pool party, yeah, sexs. Don't hate on Tiesta Dre's
beach club entry.

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Horrible.

Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
That's such a such a weak ass teammate, dude, that's
so weak is weak man, That is so frigging weak.

Speaker 5 (01:12:25):
Seven seveney, we'll get back out to the phone lines.
Astros Ao West Division champs four straight years.

Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
The Sean Salsbury Show, con.

Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
I guess you know what he's saying. But he was
telling he's not a love maker.

Speaker 1 (01:14:09):
What is he bang?

Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
If you're promoting one night one, one night rolls. Yeah,
maybe he means take her home a canodler. See you
automatically assumed take her home and you know, do all that.
Maybe he's talking about take her home, just canoodle. You
know what I'm saying, cozy canoodle, tell her you love her?

Speaker 1 (01:14:27):
Is it too early to go to break?

Speaker 4 (01:14:28):
Let her chew your arm off in the middle of
the night. Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah, I mean he's
probably a love maker. He wants to take on Cannodler
and he you know what he wants to do. He
wants to he wants to what the I'm gonna say

(01:14:49):
he wants to make sure spread and love what he
wants to make sure he does what he does when
he doesn't when he does what he does when he doesn't,
they he does. Thank you for that, No problem, you've
heard that kind of Yeah, but I think that he's
probably a canoodle. I think he's saying, go home and
and let the nurture of the relationship.

Speaker 5 (01:15:09):
It's like getting on a you know, a city bus.
It's an electric bus and you can charge your Phone's amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
It's amazing.

Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
Yeah, they've only been able to do that for twenty years,
but it's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
He does what he does. When he does it, it's
the one that we we gotta have.

Speaker 5 (01:15:25):
I don't today, tomorrow today, but tomorrow is also tomorrow today.

Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
So Kenneth might be just spreading canodling. I think canoodling
is a good thing. Yeah, you're not.

Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
You're not a canoodler, are you? Uh you like the
canoodle ca noodle? Yeah? No, no, no canodling. You ain't
no my lips. Yeah, you ain't my lips. You ain't
no play nor am I a canoodler?

Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
Okay, but but don't all of a sudden put that
on Kenneth, he might be thinking a little different than you. Okay, Ken, Chesney, h.
You got to love Ken. Not to be confused with Jeff. Uh, Jeffather,
your mother and Jeffather. Jeff saw there you go? All right?

Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Did Jeff did you predict ninety wins this season?

Speaker 20 (01:16:18):
I did say ninety wins?

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
You did say ninety wins.

Speaker 20 (01:16:23):
They're not quite there. When I called him before, I did,
they were when they were like twelve and twenty four.
I said, it's not time to panic because they were
fifteen and thirty in two thousand and five and made
the World Series. I was one person that had confidence
in him. Now I was confused as to what was
happening with him when they were twelve and twenty four.
It was dumbfounding to me. But I expected them to.

Speaker 23 (01:16:47):
Turn the ship around, not as fast as.

Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
They did, but they did.

Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Good call by you, Yeah, Jeff, I do remember the
call when you I don't remember the day, but brought
to the attention of how that team back. What was
it two thousand and five? Is that what it was
you said when the astro started out?

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:17:05):
Oh yeah, yeah, And I do remember it because it
brought to attention like, man, that's a lot to overcome,
but you're spot on, man.

Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
Good for you.

Speaker 4 (01:17:13):
And then now the now the real stuff begins here
in another week, so it'll be great.

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Appreciate that.

Speaker 20 (01:17:19):
You know, years and years of following them just gave
me the feeling that they were going to come back around.

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
Now.

Speaker 20 (01:17:28):
They may not reach ninety wins because the last four
games don't really mean that much, but they got really close.

Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
And they won the division.

Speaker 4 (01:17:38):
You got it, spot on, Jeff, Thanks man, Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
Appreciate the call, Jeff.

Speaker 26 (01:17:42):
He is today and yesterday. It was today, yesterday tomorrow
will be today tomorrow, so live today, so the future
today will be as the past today as it is tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
What the hell is that?

Speaker 14 (01:18:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
But whoever, whoever, whoever put that together, is I ever
put that together?

Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
It was brilliant good.

Speaker 4 (01:18:05):
It's a classic, but just so today's tomorrow's today classic.

Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
That's funny stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:18:11):
That's a good, good time to make fun of all
politicians right now, all of them, because they all say
something today that tomorrow you'd say, what did he say
it today or tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (01:18:22):
For today? Yeah, they'll do, but it's a did you
know what.

Speaker 26 (01:18:25):
It's just a good laugh and yesterday it was today yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:18:32):
I think that's what Katy Chesney was trying to say,
but it was do you can noodle? Or are you
taking home? For as you called it? Would you say
he's promoting one night stand?

Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
Yea, he is.

Speaker 5 (01:18:39):
It's talking about taking her home. It's a song, I know.
But he didn't say take her home to mama. Yeah,
he said, yeah, usually they do in country songs, but no,
not for Kenny Chesney.

Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
Just take her home, bang it out.

Speaker 4 (01:18:50):
Whoa, whoa whoa, tag it out and canoodle you bang out?
Tell each other how much you love each other on
the first night?

Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
Yeah, I love you? I love you. Do you believe
in love a first sight?

Speaker 4 (01:19:01):
I believe in uh wow at first sight. But I
don't know if I believe in love at first sight.
I know some use that. I think it's a I
think it's a way to a hyperbolic nobody falls in love.
You may fall and lust at first sight. Hot tone, yeah,
hot take, Yeah, it might fall in love. I mean
you lust at first sight? Man, I like to eat
that first. I don't know anybody looked said I love you,

(01:19:24):
I love her? Yeah, now you may say that, so
you could, you know, get the date.

Speaker 1 (01:19:27):
But yeah, but what was the one dude that you
fell in love with the first time? What was his name? Oh,
sim what's up? Yeah, Bobby?

Speaker 4 (01:19:35):
Well, when I stole him from you? When I stole
him from you because you didn't bring it, I understand,
no problem. Hey, but if there's one guy that can
pull another guy when you're a field mouse, dude, I
don't know what to tell you. Look, yeah, if I
I can pull it, fine, I pull a guy that Hey, ladies, Hey, Sean,
who's gonna win the USC it pulled him in the past.

Speaker 1 (01:19:55):
Come on over here.

Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
I'll let me buy you a drink. Brother, Yeah, I
got you. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
Good morning, Hey guys. What's going on? Not much?

Speaker 6 (01:22:04):
Man?

Speaker 17 (01:22:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Another, Yeah, that's a good thing.

Speaker 7 (01:22:08):
I'm a you know, I gave up on admitted. That's
the first one to admit that. You know, I was
dogging the earlier it was Dana Brown and spat a
half the players of the team, you know. And but
I'm a I'm a longtime Cowboys fan, so I'm that's
a breeding ground of pessimism right there.

Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
So I'm just a natural pessimist. But other than the
what's her name, miss is it miss Carroll?

Speaker 7 (01:22:30):
That you that sweet little old lad that calls you guys. Yeah,
and Jeff I just called all these other people that
are calling and saying, you know, uh, I never you know,
I never gave up on them.

Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
Shut up.

Speaker 7 (01:22:43):
Everybody gave up on this team.

Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
Everybody gave up on this team.

Speaker 14 (01:22:48):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
And that's a fact, that's true.

Speaker 7 (01:22:52):
Yeah, But you know, and you know what I mean
this team is it's the model of great determination.

Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
It's a great thing they've done.

Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
You know.

Speaker 7 (01:22:59):
I'm I'm I think it's gonna if they do wind
up going to the World Series, I think it's going
to be you know, one of the greatest receievements in
Houston sports in my opinion. But uh yeah, you know
you still but you still have to you know, it's
celebrate now, but just remember, you know, they did they
had an advantage of being in the weakest division in
them barn lead and they had some help. So and

(01:23:20):
there's still a lot of good baseball teams have to play,
you know, and then it's gonna be.

Speaker 9 (01:23:24):
A tough road.

Speaker 7 (01:23:24):
But give them prompts today, you know, and then hopefully
they'll rest up the next few days and get back
to business and go out and witness thing.

Speaker 5 (01:23:33):
Thank you, Clay, appreciate it. I think everybody at one
point gave up on the Astros.

Speaker 4 (01:23:41):
Maybe a little harsh, had major reservations about them getting
to the playoffs. You can still be optimistic but have
major reservations. And there's some that just flat out quit.
I don't mean quit, like, well, how dare you quit?
They just chalked it up. I'll see you next year.
There were some, but I would say the majority of
us thought maybe too much to overcome, especially with all

(01:24:04):
the injuries. It would have been natural to say that,
very natural to say that always. But the fact that
they overcame this. It's this. This season would seem to
be one of the more satisfying ones if they pull
this out, and because of what they went through so no.

Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Injury, it wasn't even just so many.

Speaker 4 (01:24:23):
Performance is one thing, but when the injuries kept mounting up,
you're like, how do you overcome this?

Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
Quit?

Speaker 4 (01:24:28):
Maybe a little harsh. The Q, the U and the
I were there, You just hadn't you just hadn't crossed
the tee yet. And then they got on that roll
and did what Dana Brown said, eventually we're going to
do roll them off and he was spot on.

Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
He's been pretty spot on all year long, Yeah, with.

Speaker 5 (01:24:43):
His decisions, and one of those moves was to bring
in Jason Hayward, a veteran presence, add that into the lineup.
Jason Hayward was asked about if you noticed any difference
between some of the other teams that he's been on
and the Astros clubhouse.

Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
This is what Jay hay had to say.

Speaker 25 (01:25:00):
I was gonna say, I feel like, uh, I see
very similar. That there's instant and instant responses to the
leaders in this clubhouse, right, so everyone prepares every day
here they go work their ass off before the game.
We all lived those highs, will live the lows of
you know, the success and the failure. But just you know,

(01:25:22):
someone you know, like your aunt having injury late this
late in the year, you know, talk being down most
of the season, where this team starting the way they did,
being down ten games and being right here on the
last day. So but for me, those are the similarities
I see in the sense of answering the challenge. You know,
those challenges are always gonna be there, They're gonna be tough,
plenty of opportunities to make excuses, and nobody here does

(01:25:45):
not one time. If we get beat, we get beat.
If someone better that night, somewhere better that night, you
acknowledge that. And then after that come back. How can
I get them tomorrow? And I think all night like
last night, a night like tonight, for us to be
on the other side of that and hold it right there,
win a game. You gotta be able to win a
winrom ball game, right, You've got got to be able
to do it.

Speaker 5 (01:26:04):
So man, they are, they're straight jamming in that clubhouse
last night. So just basically Jason Hayward talking a little
bit about the clubhouse culture for the Houston Astros. I
love the pick up to added some depth to especially
now that you have Ben Gamble that went out with
a broken bone, and then you also have Kyle Tucker

(01:26:26):
was out for a long time. You've got a banged
up your don and so just bringing and bringing in
the veteran presence is one thing. But you know, he's
still obviously still got some game left in his swing.
We've seen it a little bit over the last couple
of days for Jason Hayward, So hopefully you can make
an impact in the postseason.

Speaker 4 (01:26:43):
It was a Gammel going out and getting Kokuchi and
it worked, not a big Gammel going out and getting
Gammel and not a big Gammel going out and getting
Jason Ayward and then paid off. You know what I'm saying,
He's a gamble man. You know, gambling man. Sometimes we
got to be a gambling man, I guess, yeah. But
think about it. They've plugged and played a lot this year,

(01:27:05):
and some of the guys that were plugged, plugged in,
came through when necessary, gambled did Yeah, We've seen Dubond
do it for a couple of years.

Speaker 6 (01:27:12):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
Hayward's come in and do it. I mean it has
done it. It's just it's been Yiner Diaz has played
his bat's been great all year for the most part. Right, Yeah,
it's just been to overcome it. We can sit here
and rave and rave and rave about it, and we should,
but temperate because to them, the business has not done yet,
and to us as well, the expectations they've set have

(01:27:34):
been pretty amazing the last eight years. And they just
win another division when in truth they had absolutely with
all these injuries to pitching staff and Tucker missing, no
business winning this division after that start, none at all.
But you know what they stood on business, yepp, business
they did triply.

Speaker 5 (01:27:52):
I just I just sent you an email go ahead,
check that real quick and pulled up for this segment.
This is it's it's clean, it's ready to go. It's
Todd cake Else's call of Jason Hayward's home run last
night on Space City Home Network. And just give me
thumbs up when you get that. Ready, okay, ready to go?
All right, here's this is the call Jason Hayward's home run.

Speaker 1 (01:28:14):
Hey what try? That's good?

Speaker 14 (01:28:23):
You say, Jay?

Speaker 1 (01:28:27):
Hey, what do you say? Four of three ass throws?
Was that a Jay, Hey, what do you say? Called Jay? Hey,
what do you say? I like it? Ass throws ay
all West Division champs. Hey he's smacked dead ball. Yeah,
you could eat out of it.

Speaker 4 (01:28:42):
A little lumber company move, huh, A lot of lumber yep,
the lumber company. A lot of wood. Yeah, good wood,
that's our guy. Sparks called right that a little goodwood.
Good excitement. I love when they're energy in the bid
that playoff atmosphere. Need a single elimination to get it done,
and they did, meaning eliminate Seattle with one.

Speaker 1 (01:29:04):

Speaker 4 (01:30:54):
They need you know, no, now you know, I'm just
disgusted by his actions. It's just Kenneth so barbaric and
just what a pig. Unbelievable. Why because the song said
take her home? I know, well you'd have been more
comfortable for the said take him home. But that's okay,
do you know the No, nothing wrong with that. I'm

(01:31:15):
just saying major just put you in a little more
comfort zone. I feel like you're judging me now, No, dude,
I'm not here to judge. I'm here to love.

Speaker 1 (01:31:22):
I want to wrap my arms around you. Women. Dudes,
it's allid, it's all you. It doesn't matter. Huh, it
doesn't matter, right, it doesn't matter at all. It kind
of doesn't. You're like it might batter.

Speaker 14 (01:31:33):
A little to me.

Speaker 1 (01:31:34):
Yeah for sure. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:31:36):
It is twenty five, you don't We're in what zone
we're in? Judgment free? Oh, judgment freezone like water playing
a fitnish?

Speaker 4 (01:31:44):
If you need a room to go, what do we
used to call those during the COVID year?

Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
What what was that called?

Speaker 4 (01:31:49):
When they needed some IVY League students needed in universities
needed well, they needed a place to go sit.

Speaker 1 (01:31:55):
Safe space.

Speaker 4 (01:31:56):
Yeah, a little safe space. We got you one.

Speaker 1 (01:32:00):
It sounds kind of ye we whi. You're at it.
Grab a grab triple sandwich.

Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
Speaking of fitness, you know you fit to go, get
us a sandwich.

Speaker 1 (01:32:12):
You're fit to put these nuts in your mouth? Nuts? Okay?

Speaker 5 (01:32:19):
Seven one, three, two, five, seven ninety. We will start
with Jason Jason, good morning.

Speaker 1 (01:32:25):
Good morning, guys.

Speaker 28 (01:32:27):
Love calling in on Basic White Dude, Western Wednesdaamn.

Speaker 1 (01:32:30):
Right, damn right.

Speaker 4 (01:32:31):
He's a nice home run last night too. By the way,
great to have you'all.

Speaker 28 (01:32:34):
Say, hey, hey, yeah live here, right, got the guy.
But yeah, we need to put that on a T shirt.
But anyway, I want to talk a little bit about
Steve sparks Man. He comes on y'all show and he's
so cool, calm and collected. But for the past, I
don't know. Every year we're in the playoffs. He does
the absolute best post game celebration interviews. He's got that

(01:32:58):
locker room fire up. I mean he does. He's just
absolutely awesome. I don't know if you saw his outfit
last night, but he had the uh the suspend or
the overalls, the Astros overalls on and he was just
getting them going. It was absolutely so entertaining.

Speaker 1 (01:33:14):
I remember he was priceless man, priceless.

Speaker 28 (01:33:16):
Yeah, he's so cool, calm and collected on y'all show,
and then he goes to like this totally different person.
He deserves a Hall of Fame induction just for his
you know, playoff implication or playoff celebration interviews. It's so awesome.
And also, man, Brian, last night you were letting the
Mariners and the Rangers fans know on Twitter. Man, you
were letting them know updates.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
Yeahs. I mean I was pulling out those receipts dog
that time out the receipts, yeah, the rest.

Speaker 5 (01:33:46):
Oh yeah, I had the bookmarks ready. I still got
a couple more of I don't know what I'm gonna
release them, so we'll see.

Speaker 28 (01:33:51):
Brian was like a like a good Fellas gangster or
the guy from Casino man. He had all his books
of receipts that he was laying down on Twitter for him.

Speaker 1 (01:34:00):
So I was ready to go. You're sennerts Man collecting him.

Speaker 28 (01:34:05):
Letting him know one last thing. Talking about that quarterback
from UNLB. You know he's quitting after three weeks. So
now what's the rule? Can he like transfer within the
season or is there a rule where you can't? Because
I'm telling you now, it's just going to be college
football free agency, right. I don't know, but I anticipate
that's coming right the way things are changed.

Speaker 4 (01:34:25):
I would not let him. I would say, you can
still go to school here if you want, but you're
trying to get the step and I would I would not.
I if I was a un LV coach in the university,
I wouldn't allow him back if you wanted to red
shirt and come back next year, because he just wanted
to prove a point. He's done. He wouldn't, wouldn't. I
wouldn't wouldn't allo him back. I don't need him that much.
He's replaceable. We all are, okay, some just think they're not.

(01:34:47):
As far as the rules go. He's a holy Cross transfer,
so that's one I don't know if right now with
the new rule, left to double check that, because it
seems like the rule changes every fifteen minutes. To be
able to now walk on some I mean leave, go
go play somewhere else while the fall is going on. Now,
he'd have to get into the system and all that stuff.
I don't know on the second transfer if he's allowed

(01:35:09):
to do that now. But there's all what the one goes, Yeah,
well it'd be it'd be it's it's a chicken. Well
I'll stop right there, but I can't say it's a
it's a cowardice move. If nothing else to your teammates,
play the season out and then go bitch and complain
about what you didn't get afterwards and any I'm just
telling recruits out there now, every single coach you come
into is going to stretch and embellish the truth.

Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
You're a my five star recruit. We love you.

Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
The next year they're telling the same guy that it's
I'm not disrespecting the coach. Is a fact, every single
guy on the planet is going to be told something
that the university or the coaching staff did not live
up to.

Speaker 28 (01:35:42):
Simple team you could have a chance to make the
playoffs and you're just bailing.

Speaker 1 (01:35:48):
Yeah again, and you know, let me, I'll help him pack.

Speaker 4 (01:35:51):
Screw him. Yeah, he's a coward. Okay, appreciated, Jason, appreciate it.
Let's talk to Sena. You know, welcome in.

Speaker 29 (01:36:01):
Good morning, Great morning in Houston.

Speaker 19 (01:36:05):
So yeah, I agree.

Speaker 29 (01:36:06):
With last caller. I watched game last night and was
watching both. I was going between Space City on the
post game and playing a Sparky on seven ninety. I
love listening to his interviews. It was great listening to
like Victor Scott and Arraghetty that kind of got to
do this really celebration for a first time. So you know,
I like to think that I didn't give up on

(01:36:27):
the team. I definitely have my reservations, but you know,
pitching was should have been our greatest concern, and it
was mostly solid all season. We still had one of
the highest batting averages in baseball, most hits up there,
and it was just trying to get some of that stuff,
I mean, the potential that you could see just falling
into place, just to you know. Our offense was never

(01:36:48):
overpowering like I feel like it should have been, but
we were able to get enough done to to you know,
to get here, and a lot of great pickups as
y'all were saying, you know, guys that we got for nothing,
Gamble nears and then Heyward, I was familiar with him
back he played a Cardinals in twenty fifteen and was
very solid for Cardinals and then went to you know,
the Cardinals arch nemesis Cubs immediately after that for several years.

(01:37:12):
So and I was kind of looking because it feels
like he's done. You know, he's been strong defensively, felt
like really strong offensively with the Astros. He's only actually
batting two thirty fourds just he's had eleven hits for
those home runs, one of those of double. He's been
really clutch at the plate.

Speaker 1 (01:37:27):
So it's here, yes, no doubt. Yes, you know we
had Karatin.

Speaker 29 (01:37:33):
He's been clutched, but you know, he's one of the
few that you could say it's really been, you know,
consistently clutch at the plate this season. So having that
is something so desperately needed. So I'm looking forward to
what he can provide us in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (01:37:45):
Great point, Ghina, thanks for the call. Awesome point. Now
you think about this and then to even and enhance
her point even further. Some would say the biggest. When
I say biggest, it's not a glaring one. A weakness
is clutch hitting right, yes, and hitting the position right. Well,
let me think about this. Can you imagine this being

(01:38:06):
your weakness? Al Tuve Bregman, Jordan Tucker, Diaz, Paanya Hayward,
Oh du Bond, just go through work. We're considering if
if that's the weakness of the When I say weakness,
if that's the concern for some dude, that's a that's

(01:38:30):
a that's a pretty good con I mean, your concerns validated.

Speaker 1 (01:38:34):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (01:38:34):
Yeah, but imagine look, I mean how many teams can say, yeah,
our concern right now is hitting with runners in scoring
position and that lineup's coming at you and they get
rolling in the postseason. Come on now and look at
the numbers statistically. Look how absurd it is how we
talk at the expectations. I mean, their run scored, as
she mentioned, hits, I mean they're they're in the top

(01:38:55):
what five or ten in the league, and a lot
of categories not as much power this year as that
they're used to, right, Yeah, but with that and we're
calling that a concern.

Speaker 1 (01:39:05):
Yeah, it's pretty good.

Speaker 4 (01:39:06):
Well, yeah, just get me through the short series. Yeah,
get get and I can handle one game of not hitting.
In the longer series. I hate the three games, Yes,
I do too. I hate there's too much that can
go wrong. But you can also get eliminated him quick
and then get yourself a little rest.

Speaker 1 (01:39:21):
Hey, real quick.

Speaker 5 (01:39:22):
I know we're gonna continue to talk astro seven one
three five seven, and we'll get to your phone calls next.
Just on this Matthew Sluca thing, the quarterback for un LV,
uh Palomo Villacana. She works for Fox five News over
in Nevada.

Speaker 14 (01:39:35):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
She said, per source, un LV QB matt Sluca has
been approached with more money to transfer, so some other
school came in, gave more money, and then here's another one.

Speaker 1 (01:39:43):
You'll you'll love this one.

Speaker 5 (01:39:45):
Carl Reid, junior college football analysts for twenty four to
seven Sports and CBS Sports, says all financial commitments for
UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluca were completely met, but after wins
against Kansas and Houston, Sluca's family hired an age and
they collectively felt like his market value increased.

Speaker 4 (01:40:03):
Per sort, he's a bigger coward than I even thought,
and you know what, his family was right at the
center of it. He wants Hey, I got news for it. It
doesn't fall far from the tree, the good stuff and
the negative stuff. When you look at a family, and
when somebody a male or female, or doing their thing
and going to class, making a difference, being great teammates
doing all that, it doesn't fall handling media, all those

(01:40:25):
things don't fall far from the tree. And then there's
the opposite. A lot of times when stuff like this
is going on, you need not look any further than
the parents that raised him, because, oh, his values going up,
so they fulfilled their obligation. He wants more, so he's
negotiating in the middle of a season.

Speaker 1 (01:40:39):
I want more.

Speaker 4 (01:40:40):
I'm letting my teammates down. There is no more coward
move in college football than this one.

Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
Right now.

Speaker 5 (01:40:45):
You know how many yards he's thrown four in three games,
go ahead, three and eighteen, so.

Speaker 1 (01:40:50):
He's averaging a buck about a buck six a game.

Speaker 5 (01:40:54):
He threw for seventy one yards against U of H,
he threw for one hundred and sixty one yards against
Utah Tech, and threw for eighty six yards against Kansas.
He did rush for one hundred and twenty four in
the win against Kansas. But outside of that, he's.

Speaker 4 (01:41:07):
He's just an agent and his value went up, so
he's gonna leave his teammates hanging.

Speaker 5 (01:41:11):
Yeah, my man thinks he's Jalen Milroe.

Speaker 1 (01:41:14):
The guy is a what a clown show? My man
thinks he's Jaln Milroe.

Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
I can't and you guys, well, let the kid do it. No, no, no,
there's no the kids. The kids are getting what he's worth.
Now when you when you agree and you're finished weef team,
you let your teammates down, go negotiate your contract at
the end of the year. Three games is three games, dude.
You just you just can't. You can't do this, But
you can because they're allowing you to do it. His

(01:41:45):
ass would be escorted out the building and he would
not be allowed to play here any transfer. I'll pack
your bags for you. You're not that important to this university.
The time you think you're bigger than the university, it's
probably pretty much time for you to go somewhere else
to bitch. Well is just a major cowd move files
of teammates. I'd just like you just have at it.

(01:42:05):
We'll win without you, and I hope they do. I can,
I can, I can. I know every swinging unit on
the planet can throw for one hundred yards a gamey,
But if that increases his value, we're all in good shape. Yeah,
instead as pathetic. Pathetic?

Speaker 1 (01:42:18):
Yeah, very pathetic. All right, let's get to break.

Speaker 5 (01:42:20):
Will continue to take your calls on these Houston Astros
winning the AL West for the fourth straight year.

Speaker 1 (01:42:24):

Speaker 30 (01:43:46):
Good morning, Brian, Good morning Sean.

Speaker 1 (01:43:48):
How you guys doing well? How are you?

Speaker 30 (01:43:52):
I'm all right. I watched Hey, Sean, I watched the
whole game.

Speaker 4 (01:43:56):
Nice huh, celebration whin the win the division? Pretty impressed, right,
good will come back this year?

Speaker 30 (01:44:03):
Yeah, we popped the champagne. Did you watch well? Did
you wsten the Robert and Steve last night?

Speaker 1 (01:44:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:44:12):
We played some stuff of him. I didn't hear him
last night because I after that game, went to bed,
but we heard some of it this morning. It's always
fun when Steve Sparks has a mic and a championship
in the locker room in his hand, right, it's pretty cool.

Speaker 30 (01:44:25):
Yep, I didn't catch, but I will watch the we
repeat on the MLB.

Speaker 4 (01:44:32):
There you go a lot of good stuff in there, man,
including another division win, so it should be a fun
playoff run.

Speaker 1 (01:44:38):
Getting ready for next week?

Speaker 30 (01:44:40):
Yep, hey, when does the playoffs start Tuesday?

Speaker 1 (01:44:43):
Brandon?

Speaker 30 (01:44:46):
Next Tuesday?

Speaker 1 (01:44:47):
Yes, this coming Tuesday.

Speaker 30 (01:44:50):
Okay, we need to win?

Speaker 1 (01:44:51):
Yeah, I sure do. You gotta win.

Speaker 5 (01:44:52):
You still got a couple of games in the regular season,
though Budy got to pay some ines of those. We
appreciate you call, man, Thank you. Keep it going on
the phone lines. Talk to Reggie, Reggie, what's going on?

Speaker 6 (01:45:02):
Hey, Sean? Hey, Brian, how you doing?

Speaker 13 (01:45:04):
Sound like Brandon had was in that locker room getting
a couple of sugs down like that.

Speaker 1 (01:45:10):
Ain't nothing wrong with some good sugs, brother, You know that.

Speaker 6 (01:45:14):
Say Sean.

Speaker 13 (01:45:15):
I told you guys, I had stopped calling because I
put a martorium on my calls because of these negative
Astro fans, and at twelve percent of the season, they
was already digging the grave to throw them in it.
So I said, once they won, I will call start
calling back. And here it is, I'm calling back.

Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
We always love hearing from you. It's been too long, brother, things.
I was about to say the same thing.

Speaker 4 (01:45:39):
Man, don't take it out on us because you don't
like man callers are saying, you know how we do?

Speaker 13 (01:45:44):
Okay, Yeah, I know that, but I have to stay
true to what I say. So if you ever tell
me something, you ain't got to worry about it going
nowhere else because I stick to what I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (01:45:53):
You go.

Speaker 13 (01:45:53):
I like you stick to a lot of other things too.
Because that Charletteton that you was talking about out Brian
up in Cordorado, I wouldn't be surprised if he made
a call to that quarterback because he is one of
the guys that's stuck on himself. And Sean, this is
something I want to ask you, and I'm so sick
of this. Things like even with the Texans you played

(01:46:16):
in Minnesota, that crowd had a lot to do with
the forty nine ers also with the Texans and the
jumping outside and things.

Speaker 6 (01:46:23):
Of that nature.

Speaker 13 (01:46:24):
But my question is the gloves these guys are wearing.
Those things are contributing to a lot of these fantastic catches.
Are am I off with that? And isn't it ball
kind of small as well?

Speaker 4 (01:46:38):
The NFL ball, in truth is easier to throw than
a high school or a college ball. And let you know,
they out of the dimensions of it. I always felt,
you know that it was thinner in the middle, not
as fat, and it's yeah, it's easier to spin and
throw a spiral with and there is absolutely no questions
some of these guys will make great catches. But we're
seeing the one handed just snatched out of mid air

(01:46:59):
that you know, somebody's hands aren't big enough to fit
around the while some are the big pause. But yes,
the gloves that they're using are a huge part of
making that one handed. It's like it's like with the balls,
like a six inches away, it's like a magnet right
to it and goes in there and sticks. Yeah, now
there's some I don't want to take away the talent

(01:47:20):
from these receivers, but there's no doubt the gloves that's
why they wear them and they allow them because they're
not you know, some of those catches that ball would
have slid right through, It just would have.

Speaker 1 (01:47:29):
So yeah, gloves have a lot to do with it,
There's no question.

Speaker 13 (01:47:33):
Okay. And lastly, you know, I'm not gonna let y'all
get away with this. When you was talking Thursday ball,
you prefer watching a game on one television of POSA
two A Brian, how did that go when it come
to women? Now he ain't going listen?

Speaker 5 (01:47:50):
I like, there you go. Oh man, that's funny. Man
seven seven one three five seven ninety. Let's get out
to Brandon Branding. Good morning.

Speaker 1 (01:48:01):
How are we doing folks? Awful? Man, not good, but
we're here awful. Yeah, yeah, I'm not either. I'm stopping
this traffic.

Speaker 4 (01:48:10):
Hey.

Speaker 31 (01:48:10):
You know what astros in that division and makes it
my morning a whole lot better.

Speaker 1 (01:48:15):
Yeah, it's good to wake up teams.

Speaker 31 (01:48:17):
Considering considering how the season started, and you know what
a couple of things I want to say. It's like,
you know, fourteen and whether they start like fourteen twenty five,
I think.

Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Like twelve and twenty four.

Speaker 31 (01:48:30):
It was like, yeah, like one of the worst records
in baseball, it's like, yeah, and from what the previous
caller said, it's like the negative connotations and just an energy.

Speaker 1 (01:48:41):
It's like you're really giving up forty games of the season.

Speaker 31 (01:48:44):
It's like, Okay, then we know what the true Astros.

Speaker 1 (01:48:46):
Fans are around here.

Speaker 31 (01:48:48):
And well, really the funniest part of this whole season
was I think when cal Rawley in this postgame interview
is saying, always nice when the Astros lose, and I
think that is what they're the Mariners tip point was
because after then they went on that downward spiral.

Speaker 4 (01:49:05):
Yeah, it's always also nice when the Astros go on
and win a division and Seattle misses out on the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:49:11):
That's not a bad thing either, right.

Speaker 31 (01:49:13):
No, No, it's always nice when Seattle, you know, blows leads.

Speaker 1 (01:49:17):
Yep, because that's that's just what they do.

Speaker 31 (01:49:19):
That's it's like this historically, that's historically as a franchise,
what they're known for.

Speaker 1 (01:49:23):
It's like you can't really talk to you can back
it up. Yeah, I mean, we'll see.

Speaker 31 (01:49:29):
It'll be interesting with the Wildcards series because this is
going to be the first time I've ever been in it,
because they've usually been in the one or two seed
bearing at the Yankees or Guardians fall apartment.

Speaker 1 (01:49:39):
I don't see that happening. Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:49:41):
Take care of their business in this first round. They'll
be able to see those guys again. So I'm looking
for sure.

Speaker 31 (01:49:46):
And then the UNLV situation, it's it's funny because I
went to Nevada up in Reno. It doesn't surprise me
that a UNLV quarterback would do that, considering how much
I just have a disdain.

Speaker 17 (01:50:03):
For you and LV.

Speaker 1 (01:50:05):
It's just I find it.

Speaker 31 (01:50:07):
I find it so ironic and hilarious.

Speaker 4 (01:50:09):
Yeah, twit transfer portal and NIL has created this stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:50:14):
Guys like this that are selfish. Yep.

Speaker 31 (01:50:16):
Yeah, I just find it funny because one I don't disagree.
I don't agree with it because, like, yeah, as you
were saying, you don't do that to your teammates and coaches,
especially when you're three games in and making a run.

Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
Even though if it's U and LB, if.

Speaker 4 (01:50:30):
He wants to transfer in August, transfer in August, don't
do this to your teammates.

Speaker 1 (01:50:34):
It's a coward move. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:50:36):
He basically went up and he basically went up and
kicked ninety players and coaches right right in the groin
is what he did.

Speaker 1 (01:50:42):
He just did. Now they'll listen.

Speaker 4 (01:50:45):
That's why you get a backup ready and you have
five six quarterbacks on scholarship or whatever, because guess what,
somebody else is gonna have to step up and do it.
And and I just think, not karma to get him,
but good karma for you, an LV. I know you
don't want to hear it, but just for those players
that are like how you can't let your players down.

Speaker 1 (01:51:00):
So yeah, great stuff. Brandon, appreciate the call.

Speaker 4 (01:51:03):
And I understand Nevada and UNLV the difference in uh
in that. But there could be no bigger cowardice move,
a coward move than to do that to your teammates
because you think your value has gone up three games
end of the season. Punk move by him. I'm anxious
to see what transfer team wants him on their squad
after this. I'd run him right out of the friggin building.

(01:51:25):
All right, up next, we'll get your calls seven one, three, two, five,
seven ninety. We will also discuss and we want your
participation now that they've clinched. What's your biggest concern going
into the wild card individual team? You tell us Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (01:51:44):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show, and his name is
sure Sean. Really, we're on Sports Talk seven ninety Tom.

Speaker 1 (01:51:54):
What's happening? What's going on?

Speaker 17 (01:51:57):
Guys?

Speaker 29 (01:51:57):
Oh?

Speaker 32 (01:51:58):
Happy day? Man? What a game last night? Hey, I
don't think I heard anybody mention it. They want a
one run game, four to three. So many good things
that this team has been doing this year. You know
how I feel about him. I know that question you
just asked, who are you thinking about coming in? I

(01:52:18):
don't know, man, I don't think I want to face
the Tigers. You know, aj hntch coming back to minute made.
They're a tough team. I mean, how can you figure
out they would be able to compete once they got
real flyerty. But either way between the Royals, the Twins,
the or the Tigers, it's a tough, tough, tough thing.

(01:52:42):
But you know what, this Astro team that's been through
a lot of adversity this year, and I think they're
like I said, I just think they're going to have
a continuation of the season to get through it. But
these three games coming in in the first round of
the playoffs, they can be sneaky, But just think about
all the things the team went through. I love seeing

(01:53:03):
Alex Brigman get that bomb in the first inning. Remember
we couldn't even find a spot for him in the lineup.
They put him at eighth, they put him at seventh.
He turned it around so many good things. You gotta
hand it to Dana Brown. I can't waste for the
show today until you talk to him.

Speaker 33 (01:53:19):
Uh.

Speaker 32 (01:53:20):
It's going to be really a great run for this team.
So happy to be with you guys. Man, I gotta
get to bed man. I did a little too much
party in that.

Speaker 4 (01:53:28):
There you go, Thanks, Tom, appreciate it. Enjoy that party,
no doubt.

Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
Nothing wrong with the nap. I know you know too.
You're gonna get one in today, you too, Yep, Yeah,
definitely nice. Supposed to rain today, Throw a sweater vest
on and go play British Open golf. Is that what
you're gonna do out there?

Speaker 4 (01:53:51):
That's I think that's the best way to get rid
of the monia, don't you probably golf ran it out.

Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
Let's go put on some wind pants, you know, like
the rain win.

Speaker 5 (01:54:00):
Oh yeah, I'm talking about like yeah, yeah, just a
little sweater vests under it.

Speaker 1 (01:54:05):
It won't be a sweater to just be like the
rain vest, thin rain vest that.

Speaker 4 (01:54:11):
No, no golf shirt nothing, I go long long sleeve,
mocked turtle maybe yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
Or maybe you get the vest.

Speaker 4 (01:54:19):
That vest it's built into the long sleeve for the
golf So it's all thin, thin to win throwing it
at the flag.

Speaker 1 (01:54:26):
Stick, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (01:54:27):
Then to win on the golf court. Okay, So you
don't want to go thin to win on the you
don't want to hit a thin shot. You got President's
Cup coming up, I mean I got look at the
shirt's got the red, white and blue star on.

Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
Yeah, let's go. Let's just get Kobe Stevens.

Speaker 4 (01:54:41):
No, this is soulsa WORL new company out of Dallas.
They're new companies. Sometimes sometimes you gotta be a you know,
you got to be an ambassador for him. No, you don't, well,
you don't. At times you do well okay, yeah, yeah,
it makes fast friends. Okay, what you be bought? Even
the UNLV quarterback. Oh yeah, he'd leave for a dollar.

(01:55:06):
But I can tell you that, yes, today it might be.
You know what, sometimes when you're only about seventy percent,
sometimes takes the pressure off your game and you're not
no expectations.

Speaker 1 (01:55:15):
You fire your best score out.

Speaker 5 (01:55:16):
You're not thinking off, that's right, you're just thinking about
getting anemonia. You're getting through getting the demons out. Brother,
that's exactly right. Got to get him out of there.
Let's go like Gremlins and yeah, go ahead, we got
a dumb but let it writen for these days. I
am Kenneth, Welcome in.

Speaker 34 (01:55:33):
The Yeah, good morning.

Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
You know what's happening.

Speaker 34 (01:55:36):
Hey, I just had to get in on this man
because I was here for these astro when everybody gave
up on them. I'm not too critical of the fans,
but I want the people that notice critical of them.
We almost waited a whole lifetime to have a winner here,
you know, and we stuck with him through it and
then call us like miss Carroll she epitomized the real

(01:55:58):
two of Houston fan and I wanted to throw out
something here. Uh it's kind of subject. But you was
talking a little college this morning, but I have heard
nothing about it. But by the Colorado man, this kid
hit hell.

Speaker 6 (01:56:13):
Mary.

Speaker 34 (01:56:13):
I'm talking about this almost like the McMahon of fluidic
type man. And you know, and I think this looked
like his defining moment right here, and uh and I'm
just not hearing none about it. And on top of that,
Man bon came in to humble after that, and that
just that just made it even better. He didn't glow, man,

(01:56:36):
And I just wanted to hear what y'all think about that,
man And uh And I'm just wanting to say, the Houston,
true Houston fans, let's stay.

Speaker 6 (01:56:43):
The way we are.

Speaker 34 (01:56:44):
We ignore the haters, the doubter us and fair weather fans.

Speaker 17 (01:56:48):
Man, thank you well.

Speaker 4 (01:56:50):
The Astros continue to trudge along and do what they
do so I mean, they continue to build belief and expectations,
and they did it again. This year could be their
most satisfying season since I've been here, especially if they
go on and win this thing.

Speaker 1 (01:57:02):
Still a lot of work to do. Data Brown at
nine thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:57:04):
As far as Colorado deon, Yeah, the Humble Pie is
a good thing once in a while, and Shdeer Sanders
is a hell of a player. I need to see
Colorado string together a bunch of wins first before before
I tell them how great they are. They got to
They got to beat some really really good teams along
the way, and if they do, then more power to them.
But they've got good talent and that Travis Hunter is

(01:57:26):
a monster. Now he's good here. I think he may
be the best all around player in college football. So
people standing in line to get him. But yeah, it
was a win. Colorado's got to show me they can
sustain this before I start spending too much. We bragged
enough about them last year and his impact and then
they went through the struggle and trying to fix it.
Probably less talk and more work, and that's what there.
It appears that hopefully that's the that's the plan, right.

Speaker 5 (01:57:48):
Yeah, they've got UCF at use Colorado. UCF the Saturday.

Speaker 4 (01:57:53):
CF is one of the best running teams in the
mayor I think there aren't they averaging like almost four
hundred yards or three something rushing a game. That's a
good football team and they're gonna be hell uh, UCF's good.
I mean, I don't know what the record is right now,
but they they pose a problem, and aren't they. I
think they're average there between three and four hundred yards
rushing a game or something, aren't they?

Speaker 5 (01:58:13):
They are averaging let's see, so they've got eleven one
hundred and twenty seven yards. Yeah, it's it's almost four hundreds,
three hundred and seventy five. They're avage per per carry
six point eight.

Speaker 4 (01:58:27):
Yeah, they're it's gonna be difficult. They're leading the Big Twelve.
They're they're winning the Big twelve right now. And the
weakness for the weakness for Colorado is the trenches on
bull Say and Shader Sanders took I think.

Speaker 1 (01:58:37):
Like eight sacks last week.

Speaker 4 (01:58:39):
So they give me UCF in the game. I just
don't know. And they're going to control the clock. They
run the football like that. I don't know how you're
gonna get many possessions, but it'll be. They string a
few together and we can go back to talking about
the entire team.

Speaker 1 (01:58:53):
Players are relevant. They're they're not.

Speaker 4 (01:58:55):
They're not overly impactful as a team yet. But they've
won a couple of games and and we'll win more
because they're talented. But they're gonna have to string them
together against good teams. And this is a huge test
against you a Central Florida. Yeah, especially with a good
football weekend this weekend too. Yeah, I got Alabama and
Georgia playing. It's gonna be a big time, yeah, big
time matchup.

Speaker 1 (01:59:14):
That's good weekend. Sec.

Speaker 5 (01:59:15):
Seven seven ninety. Let's get into the nine o'clock hour
talk about these astros.

Speaker 1 (01:59:20):
Next May. It's Sean here.

Speaker 4 (01:59:21):

comes to pricing, this is the place to be. And
I think at the top of that, to be honest
with you, is customer service. You can't buy good customer service.
It's DNA, it's character in the building, and that's who
Classic Chevy sugar Land is.

usc trouph.

Speaker 2 (02:00:59):

Speaker 3 (02:01:01):
Lima, go Lobo.

Speaker 1 (02:01:03):
This is the Sean sALS Very show.

Speaker 5 (02:01:08):
Sure he will talk about the Astros winning the Al
West for the fourth year in a row, as they
beat the Mariners last night four to three, trying to
win the series. Today one ten, the first pitch noon
on Deck show right here on seven on your home
for Astros Baseball.

Speaker 1 (02:01:22):
They're playing over at Minim Park.

Speaker 5 (02:01:23):
You say, Kakuchi is on the mound for the Stros.
Seven one three, two, two five seven. We've been taking
your calls all morning long, getting your reaction, your celebrations,
whether you thought the Astro was gonna be able to
get this.

Speaker 1 (02:01:36):
Done or not. And we continue on the phone lines Holly,
you're up.

Speaker 33 (02:01:41):
First, Good morning, Good morning guys. John. You were asking
a well few segments ago about what's the most concerning
thing going into the playoffs, and I have two things
that I wanted to mention. First is, the first of all,
let me give them kudos. They've been through a lot
this year, everything from the injury to losing Kyle Tucker

(02:02:01):
to the whole Brave Eu drama that we had at
the beginning of the year, and they've overcome all that.
To me, this is the sweetest division title that we
have won, and we've truly ironed this one. But going
into the playoffs, the bullpen, specifically the middle relief ferguson
Or and team shouldn't be on this team. And I
know we're going to get two of our starters moved

(02:02:23):
to the bullpen, and I know that'll help, but I'm
just worried about about holding that middle part of the
bullpen if a starter can't go deep. And also, the
second thing I'm worried about is if New Yordan's heed
just comfort turns into he's going to need a near
replacement on Monday. So anyway, go Astros and look forward
to hearing your interview with Dana and how you guys

(02:02:43):
have a good day.

Speaker 1 (02:02:45):
Thank you, Holly.

Speaker 5 (02:02:46):
Yeah, that's a knee issue for Jordan Alvarez an east spring.
The plan is to try to get him some at
bats against the Guardians in Cleveland this coming weekend, so
we'll have to monag that. Obviously you want to get
him some at bats, but you also want to just
let him, let that information go down and be ready
for next Tuesday when the Wildcard Series starts.

Speaker 1 (02:03:09):
So see how that goes.

Speaker 4 (02:03:11):
Yeah, please let him be as close to one hundred
percent as you can, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (02:03:14):
Man, you've got to have his bat that lineup, even
for the very thread of it.

Speaker 17 (02:03:18):
Right.

Speaker 1 (02:03:18):
His postseason numbers are stupid.

Speaker 4 (02:03:20):
Yeah, it's I mean, if and when he's going good,
you got to have a lot of guts to pitch
to him, man, and if you miss, he punishes you.

Speaker 6 (02:03:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:03:27):
That that's a that that is your chances at the plate.
Now this team's I'll never count him out, but your
chances go down if you don't have that big fell in.

Speaker 1 (02:03:37):
The middle of your lineup, right, they really do.

Speaker 5 (02:03:39):
Yeah, you have to have him, like you said, for
the thread of it. It doesn't matter if it's lefty
on lefty or right on left, he doesn't matter. He's
him in the lineup, changes things. He's this team's Otani. Listen,
I'm fifty fifth. I'm not comparing the two. But that's
who he is.

Speaker 4 (02:03:52):
He's He's Phillies, Bryce Harper, He's Aaron Judge in New York.
Take those guys out of the lineup and your your
chances are greatly to finished unless you get uh you know,
Hall of Fame pitching from your guys, which they're all
capable of going low and not giving up runs. But man,
you need him healthy so that top is there, right.

Speaker 1 (02:04:13):
Yeah? Man, is he good in the postseason?

Speaker 4 (02:04:15):
He sure is. His numbers are ridiculous in the postseason. Martin,
good Morning.

Speaker 35 (02:04:21):
The one thing that scares me about the Astros truly
is their offense being shut down, and it may cost him.
I just don't. I hope I'm wrong. I just think
it's gonna cost him and they're not gonna last long
in a playoffs. I'm afraid because of the offense. But
but hey, I but I'm I hope they'll prove me wrong.

(02:04:42):
I'm ready to celebrate. I love him and uh Sean
Hey man, Sean, Hey man, I'm ready to dance. I'm
ready to boogie, boogie boogie. Let's let's crack up that
Taylor Swift music.

Speaker 1 (02:04:55):
Hey Martin, goodbye Martin? What in the hell? Goodbye? Cut it?

Speaker 4 (02:05:00):
You know what, Martin, the fact that you just said
her name, we're gonna throw a cut in there.

Speaker 1 (02:05:05):
That's a good call with some respect on Martin. Taylor.
She's a swiftye. Don't I got?

Speaker 4 (02:05:11):
I got some bangers for you. Hold on, there you go.
She's fairly popular, isn't she. She's okay, she'll do it
a pitch, you know what, Martin. Let's start with and
I you know what, put it on video.

Speaker 1 (02:05:23):
Start dancing when you hear the song. Yeah, but we
want to see it. What's that new one she's got
with post Malone? Goodn't on? I can't tripley play Fortnite? O.
What a great video game? Night video game. It's just
type in Taylor Swift and post Malon. It will come
up Fortnite.

Speaker 4 (02:05:40):
Do you think Martin's swifty to get jacked up? And
he's so you'll they're gonna win? Hold on, yeah, hold on, yeah,
here we go. All right, So tread lightly with Martin's comment.

Speaker 5 (02:05:52):
Martin wants to play Taylor Swift and you're like, you
know what, We're gonna play that cut. Felipe on Twitter
says we need go go Astros and you said, no,
we don't.

Speaker 1 (02:05:58):
Yeah, and we don't.

Speaker 4 (02:06:00):
Executive decision, Felipe, we love you on here get the
Stepping Dog. We ain't playing that song. We're not going
to kill the Astros before they get into the playoffs. Okay,
songs sucks. Okay, Taylor Swift legend, I mean whoa I
mean if legend?

Speaker 14 (02:06:15):
What is not?

Speaker 4 (02:06:16):
Hey is Clay Walker Dayton Taylor Swift. No, he's not
the one of things to go go ash, that's he's
the NFL guy.

Speaker 1 (02:06:22):
Ye yeah, Clay Walker? Yeah, football time. How dare I?
How dare I do that?

Speaker 23 (02:06:29):
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:06:29):
They sound sock?

Speaker 25 (02:06:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:06:31):
Who sings? I don't even know Dayton Taylor Swift?

Speaker 6 (02:06:36):
No?

Speaker 5 (02:06:37):
When is when is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey's dating
contract come up and into the twenty eighth like three
days from now, right, So.

Speaker 4 (02:06:43):
I think they're gonna I think they're gonna extend it.
Extend the contract.

Speaker 6 (02:06:46):
Man.

Speaker 4 (02:06:46):
A lot of good marketing dollars out there could be closed.
Taylor Swift. There you go. Did I call her a legend?

Speaker 1 (02:06:52):
Sh she legend? Can you be considered a legend?

Speaker 4 (02:06:54):
Yet?

Speaker 1 (02:06:54):
He is?

Speaker 4 (02:06:55):
She's a legend, There's no question, global legend. She is
a global legend. She really is the Swift. These are nuts.
Can you be bought me? Yeah? Depends on you know,
Taylor Swift wants a two month relationship with me? Hell yeah,
hell yeah, give me a month. Yeah, I don't even
need to talk to you. Just give me that coin
take two weeks. Hell yeah, Kelsey ain't stupid.

Speaker 5 (02:07:19):
Yeah, I'll tell you what I aint getting that damn
vaxo and I ain't pushing that now. That's where I
draw the long I can't be. But that's a part
of the contract. We're red light that.

Speaker 1 (02:07:28):
Out. I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (02:07:31):
You would be throwing mill in there if he john
legend me at the PO for his commercial.

Speaker 1 (02:07:36):
Nope, that's the fact I can't. That's where I.

Speaker 5 (02:07:39):
Can't be bought right, yeah, exactly everywhere else. And I
ain't hanging out with or anybody either too. So that's well,
you're not going to get a chance to do that.

Speaker 6 (02:07:47):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:07:48):
My man's not because hells because it's because he's in prison. Yeah,
you can't see it, but I can't see him, and
I saw somebody puting me out or something. Just said, hey,
I just want to get out in front of it.

Speaker 1 (02:08:03):
He did.

Speaker 4 (02:08:04):
He didn't kill himself either, exactly. You know what's funny.
I was literally just thinking that.

Speaker 5 (02:08:08):
Me and Tripley talked about that on Monday when you
were doing the show from home because you had pneumonia.
We're talking about that, dude. He's one hundred percent gonna
be sold there.

Speaker 4 (02:08:16):
Well, the second they stay on suicide, he's done suicide. Watch,
there's there's a they're looking h yeah, let's we're gonna
pull this one off.

Speaker 5 (02:08:27):
Thousand bottles of baby oil they found in his crib.

Speaker 1 (02:08:30):
He just he just he uses used tanning lotion. Nasty dude, man,
that's some sick.

Speaker 4 (02:08:37):
Zero zero zero, like, oh, I feel take take him
and take all of them with you, Take all the
ones who've done, who are a part of that, Take
every single.

Speaker 1 (02:08:49):
One of them with you, nasty pe every single one.

Speaker 4 (02:08:51):
Yeah, if he survives this man, shocking, I know, shocking, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:08:57):
I know. All right, real quick, let's talk to Gene. Gene,
welcome in.

Speaker 6 (02:09:03):
I almost forgot what I was going to talk about.

Speaker 36 (02:09:04):
After you're listening to that conversation.

Speaker 1 (02:09:07):
It will make you forget about it, no doubt about it. Brother.

Speaker 34 (02:09:11):
No.

Speaker 36 (02:09:12):
Originally, what I want to call it in is that,
you know, for the first time, I kind of feel like,
you know, the back end of the bullpen is where
I'm most concerned. Kind of saw it last night with
like Presley, you know, we had two runners on and
then you know, I know Josh Hader's been great, but
I just kind of feel like going in, you know,
to the postseason, when that even the pressure is even higher,
what are y'all guys take on the you know, the

(02:09:34):
back end of the bullpen and you know, getting saving
these games, especially if it's a close game. I just
don't have to competentate that in the pass, you know,
Like I remember Pressley when he was lights out in
twenty twenty two and a Breya was lights out and
all that. I just I'm just kind of scared going
aheadto the postseason. Yeah, I wanted to get you guys
take on that.

Speaker 1 (02:09:52):
Geene.

Speaker 4 (02:09:52):
I I get your concern, and I think that there's
there's a reason for the concern, But I'm going to
lean on the side of trusting them in this position,
a Bray who hasn't given us a ton of reasons
not to trust him, has he? And in the postseason,
Presley's given us reasons to trust him as well to
trust him. And Hater's got thirty four saves, He's blown

(02:10:17):
some saves this year. But damn, I gotta I gotta
believe that they can that this. If I'm saying a Bray, you,
Presley and Hater are weaknesses. But I do get the concern,
one get it. I can't label them a weakness though,
because the majority of the time, it's like umpires, right,
what do they get right? The majority of the time

(02:10:39):
they get it right? I would say they get it right. Yeah,
with this team, those guys get it right most of
the time. Right now, if they kick, you know that
they stub their toe at some point during this postseason,
which is likely to happen in a game you just
don't want it an elimination game. So I get the
concern Jean's talking about, and I imagine you do too.

(02:11:01):
But judging from what I see the majority of the
time and what they've had to do the entire bullpen
through this run, after they started twelve and twenty four.
They've been a big part of this. You know, they've
had their moments of negativity, but for the most part,
I got to trust the eighty five to.

Speaker 1 (02:11:18):
Ninety percent success, right, I just do Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:11:21):
And if they do, then we can get after it
after they If they disappoint them, then let it rip.
But I'm going to go in and also saying that
sometimes a mentality changes for most it should from regular
season to postseason. There's a different intensity. We're going to
see how the back end of the bullpen handles a
different intensity.

Speaker 5 (02:11:39):
Yeah, I think I think this team has shown year
after year when it gets in October, it's a different story, right,
And it's trust.

Speaker 1 (02:11:46):
Right, and it's a chance for us.

Speaker 4 (02:11:47):
As we've said, you know, people that were questioning at
twelve and twenty four what they were going to do, yeah,
or twelve and twenty two or twelve twenty twelve, twenty
twenty four is now you say, Okay, they overcame that.
So I'm going to assume they're going to overcome some
of their woes and that they're attention to detail at
the back end of the bullpen is going to rise, and
that they're going to handle the pressure. That's what I'm
gonna go with for the majority of the time.

Speaker 5 (02:12:08):
Yeah, with the back end, with the big three, you've
got a Brady Pressley and Josh Hader's just you know,
I think it's oh, here we go and it comes
comes down to just the cream rises to the top,
big dog.

Speaker 4 (02:12:19):
Yeah, taking how many pitches of times they take the time? Man,
that's a great motivational speech. Just going to the clubhouse
and say, hey, hey man, take it one pitch at
a time.

Speaker 1 (02:12:29):
Hater, Just throw strikes, man, easy concept.

Speaker 4 (02:12:34):
That's really not the answer. And you know what, that's
not the answer in baseball. If you throw strikes, they'll
hit them. Throw strikes, but with about four inch to
eight inches of movement that will help, right, Yeah, that's
that's what we hat. Just throw to the right guy,
right football, all right, that makes sense, But just throw strikes. Well,
if you throw strikes with no movement, the ball is

(02:12:55):
gonna get smoked. So do all that throw throw the
whiffle ball up there. That's get this thing taken care of.

Speaker 5 (02:13:01):

Speaker 17 (02:15:52):
I married a beautiful woman. She's very light skinned.

Speaker 5 (02:15:55):
Oh okay, I thought, okay, I thought, uh, that's Brian,
that's gotta be.

Speaker 37 (02:16:03):
And she had Hey, hey, Bud, you know something. If
I had fallen in love with one, I wouldn't have hesitated.
But hey, you know I love all women.

Speaker 17 (02:16:12):
Especial when he got nice.

Speaker 4 (02:16:14):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, we feel you.

Speaker 1 (02:16:17):
We feel you know what I did there? We feel you.
Brian loves all women and men too, so that no problem.
All good.

The Shawn Salisbury Show continues, sure does for his weekly
visit at nine thirty. And this is a fun one,
all the grind and here we are division winners, Division champs.
Dana Brown joins US Astros GM. Well, let's get that
out of the way. How you feeling today and what
a satisfying victory and what a phenomenal season to date,

(02:18:50):
my man, all the overcoming.

Speaker 1 (02:18:51):
It's got to feel.

Speaker 6 (02:18:52):
Good to you today, Absolutely so great this morning, you know,
excited for you know, the organization and all the apps
fans out there. Uh, you know, just a reminder of
the grind of one hundred and sixty two and you've
got to keep your hands on the wheel, keep your
foot on the gas. And you know, the guys kept
it going. You know they we got off to a

(02:19:12):
slow start this year, but we turned it around. You know,
they kept it going. And you know it's really fun
to watch the celebration last.

Speaker 4 (02:19:20):
And they never get old and winning divisions the first
goal win the division. Didn't go on and take care
of your business in the postseason. Have you ever been
You've been around baseball for a long time, Dan I
don't care if it's a little league wherever you when
you played, when you're in Atlanta, here is the GM.
Have you ever been around a more resilient organization?

Speaker 6 (02:19:40):
This organization is unbelievable. You know, first of all, you
know what we do here with our pitching. You know,
it's outstanding. You know, the winning environment, you know, the
make up, the commitment from ownership. You know, it's just
the winning organization. It's great to be a part of it.
You know, outstanding fan based, you know. You know, guys,
I love the Astros and so, uh, this is a

(02:20:03):
fun place to be and uh, fasten your seat belts
and let's get this postseason going.

Speaker 4 (02:20:08):
Dana, what you mentioned pitching in that with the way
that they just continue to do their thing, whether it's
a starter, somebody gets hurt, somebody else comes in, somebody
from minor league, whatever it is, Why then are they
Why are they always successful? Here Kakuchi coming over in
the trades, nine straight games of wins when he's been pitching.

Speaker 1 (02:20:27):
Why are the Astros pitchers so successful?

Speaker 17 (02:20:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (02:20:32):
I think we pay attention a lot of attention to
the information and the data, and you know, we try
to use it to our advantage, and I think that's
a good thing. And you know, we have you know,
we have two really good pitching coaches in the big
league level, you know, Josh Miller and Murphy. You know,
these guys, you know, they're they're locked in and they
you know, they set the tone for the organization and

(02:20:54):
you know, ultimately, you know, we work through this thing
together and we try to give them the right type
of pieces to work with and they continuously continue to
get it done.

Speaker 4 (02:21:04):
Is there Dana Brown Astros GM for his weekly visit
the Western Champs the American League West Champs, Houston Astros
again and working on their eighth straight ALCS. But there's
business to handle before then, Dana. There's got to be
a pride factor where you were at twelve and twenty
four and you told us continually to it's a long season, man,

(02:21:26):
That's why we play a buck sixty two. Well we're
not quite at a buck sixty two, but what about
a buck fifty eight? So there's got to be a
lot of pride in winning like this. Everybody wants to
win by twenty games, right, that'd be great, But the
reality is this year you did it different and the
way that you've done it this year. There has to
be a lot of pride because it's been a crazy way,
but it sure's heck been a prideful and efficient one

(02:21:49):
at the end.

Speaker 6 (02:21:51):
Yeah, Ultimately you have to have the heartbeat and the
stomach for this because of the constant grind. You know,
you're going to have games that you lose, you know,
the last pitch of the game. You know, you're gonna
have games that you win the last pitch of the game.
You're gonna have streaks. Will you lose four or five
in a row, You're gonna have winning streaks whill you
you know, you win ten in a row. And so
there's a lot of ups and downs. You know. The

(02:22:14):
heartbeat of this club and this organization is, you know
one thing that we should all pay attention to, uh,
you know, used to winning. No panic, you know, uh,
steady at a you know, fly the plane and turbulence.
You know, just stay the course. And you know that's
basically what it is. You just have to, you know,

(02:22:37):
understand that it's a long season. You can't get too high,
you can't get too low. You have to you know,
keep it steady and keep it on cruise Control did data.

Speaker 4 (02:22:45):
When things aren't going well like they were at the
beginning of the season, how do you convince it. Maybe
it's just having a strong clubhouse as well, but how
do you convince young guys or guys that are going
through the questioning of man, this isn't us. How do
you get them to stay the core? So, I mean,
we say it, but how do you in the clubhouse
or just by talk or do you let it happen organically?

(02:23:05):
How do you get them at twelve and twenty four
to believe this is going to still be a special season?

Speaker 6 (02:23:12):
Yeah, I think Joe Spotty did a great job of that.
You know, having that familiar face down there, I've said
it before was very important for this club early on
when we were struggling, you know, whether it was the
seven and nineteen or twelve and twenty four, when we
were struggling and having Joe spot It down there, the
familiar face, who who could keep these guys calm? Don't

(02:23:35):
go into a panic. The season is long. You got
to you know, chip away, fight back, don't give up.
And you know I mentioned last night the lowest moment
of the season I felt was when we were down
by ten games early June, and we lost Kyle Tucker.
I mean that was the gut punch that that was
the test of all time. You know, you're really behind,

(02:23:57):
you're struggling, and you lost one of your best hitters.
He lost one of your best hitters. And so that
overcoming that, Joe, you know, just dealing with and talking
with the club, keeping them positive, knowing that we you know,
we had a chance to get to the trade deadline.
Just keep it close until you get to the trade deadline,
make a good move at the deadline, and then see

(02:24:19):
where it takes you. And so that's the key, you know,
to the season right there. Uh, you know, just staying positive,
keeping the heartbeat right and you just you definitely have
to have the stomach for this.

Speaker 1 (02:24:31):
All right.

Speaker 4 (02:24:32):
You mentioned hitters and Kyle Tucker and go to another
one in your Don Alvarez. How concerned should we be
about just everything to do with that knee right now?

Speaker 6 (02:24:43):
Yeah? I mean, you know, if youse a guy like
jord On, you know, you're replaceable. You don't have these guys,
you know, they don't fall off the trees. You know,
this guy is unbelievable. What he does, What he means
to this club, you know, and so we'll we'll have
more detail on you know, the knee spring in a

(02:25:03):
few more days, you know, once the swelling subside and
you know, we could get a little bit more information.
But you know, uh, not having him would be very difficult.
Guys are gonna have to step up. If that's the case.
We're we're hoping that we're gonna get good news, but
if you don't have a your line, you're gonna have
to have guys step up. You know, I said last

(02:25:25):
night that the other day two days ago, uh actually,
uh yeah, two days ago, I went to Hayward and said, look,
the big boys out. You know, we're gonna need guys
like your self, entering guys to step up. And sure enough,
you know, he had a home run, big home run
last night, hit a home run the night before, and
you know, you're just gonna have to have other guys

(02:25:46):
step up if if that's the case. But you know,
we're hoping for good news here, but you know this
guy is tough to replace.

Speaker 1 (02:25:55):
Any chance he misses a playoff series, meaning your don.

Speaker 6 (02:26:00):
Let's hope not. I don't want to think like that.
You know, we'll know more in a couple of days.
But I don't even want to put that in her
in orbit right now. You know, it's let's like, let's
let's let the swelling go down. He felt a lot
better yesterday. I had a nice conversation with him. He
was moving his leg very well, he was walking a
lot better. And so just in the day he felt better.

(02:26:23):
So we have, you know, whether the five more days,
you know, to get through this and and just you know,
hopefully that thing, you know, can heal so well.

Speaker 4 (02:26:32):
The plan would we we shouldn't expect to see him
in any of the rest of the regular season games, Dana.

Speaker 1 (02:26:37):
Is that the plan? Just to rest them no matter what?

Speaker 6 (02:26:40):
With us winning division the division, I think at this point,
you know, let's let him rest. Let's you know, not
try to push him back to too soon. You know,
you know, our our our focuses, you know, to finish
the season and then let's just start with the postseason.
And we want to go into the postseason with with
all of our guys. It felt so great to have

(02:27:02):
all of our hitters back in the lineup. Once Tucker
came back. It just added a little more depth to
our lineup and so the goal is for him to
take the five days that he needs, the extra five
days right now that he needs. You know, like I said,
it felt better yesterday, a lot better in fact, And
so what's the difference of five more days going to make.

(02:27:23):
I think it's going to make a lot of difference.
So we're very hopeful a couple.

Speaker 4 (02:27:27):
More minutes of astros GM Dana Brown for his weekly
visit here with us every Wednesday at nine thirty. All right, Dana,
the rest of the team approach, not named Jordan in
these next five days or six days, what's the approach
to the team rest wise, play wise, stay in rhythm,
don't need rhythm. We're good, fresh legs. Were we at

(02:27:47):
fresh arms? Where are we at with the approach to
the rest of the season.

Speaker 6 (02:27:52):
Yeah, I think Joe Spot's approaches to make sure he
gives these guys a couple of days off, whether it's
one down like starting today and maybe another one in
two days, but give each of these guys a little
bit of a rest because they've been grinding. They've been
grinding hard, they've been playing a lot of games. Penia

(02:28:12):
has been in a grind. Bregman's been in a grind.
Now two, they's been in the grind. These guys have
been in the grind, playing every day good baseball, and
so we really have to give these guys a little
bit of a breather so that we're really fresh. You know,
we don't want to sit them down the rest of
the time because you don't want guys to lose their timing,
but you definitely want them to be off their legs

(02:28:33):
for you know, two maybe three days.

Speaker 4 (02:28:36):
Dana with the with the pitching and in this first series,
and as it goes on, you'll make those decisions each series.
But with the guys that may not get the start.
We know how Dana now, Hunter Brown and Fromber and
Kakuchi have pitched. But in some of these other starting
pitching bodies, can we expect them to automatically be in
the bullpen ready to start if necessary? But will they

(02:28:59):
just strength in the bullten? Is that the plan where
to move them?

Speaker 6 (02:29:04):
Yeah? So the plan right now is to finish the
season and to have some really good discussions as to
what we're going to do. What's the best case of
course of action for this team going forward. But we'll
finish the season Sunday night, Sunday afternoon game and then
Sunday evening early Monday, we'll have some really good discussions

(02:29:24):
as to how we're going to line this thing up.
And so you know, we'll circle back with with you
guys and let you know, but the plan is to
finish the season out and really have some tough conversations,
you know, Sunday night Monday morning.

Speaker 4 (02:29:38):
And those are tough conversations because just guys that have
contributed a lot may not to get that that kind
of start or play. It's it's got to be a
difficult one of the more difficult things in your role,
in the in management's role, in the manager's role, to do.
That's not a fun conversation.

Speaker 1 (02:29:52):
Is it.

Speaker 14 (02:29:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:29:55):
I mean, ultimately, I think everyone in our clubhouse, these
guys are all team guys, their team first guys. So
that part makes it easy, you know, having having a
tough discussions or you know they're going to be tough,
you know, But ultimately I think we have a team
full of team first guys, and I think, you know,

(02:30:17):
whatever decision we decide to make between the front office,
you know, and the coaching staff and including the players,
and some of the discussions of course, Uh, we'll make
the best decision of you know, we'll put the team first, Dana.

Speaker 4 (02:30:31):
What comes This may sound odd, but I'm curious because
I've heard both from people in positions that are impacting
franchises in different sports. What comes first to you? Winning
or chemistry? Does winning build chemistry or does chemistry build
the winning?

Speaker 17 (02:30:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (02:30:47):
I mean we want to win. I mean the bottom line,
you want to win. And I think when you win,
you know, you learn how to put things together, and
you learn how to keep the chemistry, and you learn
how to keep the fight and learn how you know
to stay in the grind. I mean, I think the
ultimate goal is to win, you know, and sometimes you
have to even develop at the big league level. But

(02:31:10):
you know, even when you have to develop at the
big league level, you have to keep winning as a priority,
you know, because that's that's what we want to do.

Speaker 1 (02:31:18):
We want to win, so winning first.

Speaker 4 (02:31:20):
Winning builds chemistry, all right, And let's a little love
the space Cowboys playing good baseball. And I'm just curious
your overall I know you're focused on this team, but
your overall view of how your minor league systems performing
and the depth of it.

Speaker 6 (02:31:34):
Yeah, I mean tiple A. McKey has done a great job,
you know, and you know, we we we've had to
run guys up and down, you know, all year. You know,
we're going to be taking guys. You know, in the
course of the season, you're taking guys from the Triple
A level sometimes you know, for the Double A level,
and so, you know, getting on the same page. You know,
it's very important, you know, and that's one of the things,

(02:31:57):
one of the reasons why you know, we put you know,
Gavin Dickey over the you know, player Development as a
system GM. You know, he he's one of those guys
he's you know, he's got a great background on the
data and the information and you know, he's you know,
came out of a really good background of scouting for
twelve years. And so, you know, coordinating the whole minor

(02:32:19):
league operations and getting your eyes set on some of
those guys that are going to help impact the major
league and getting those guys to the big leagues is
what our focus is. I mean, ultimately, the minor leagues
exists to filter players to the major leagues and in
order to help us give us the best chance to win.
And so you know, I think our guys have done

(02:32:42):
an outstanding job of you know, getting guys ready and
getting them to the big leagues. And you know, we
don't pay a whole lot of attention to all of
the publications and the rankings and things like that, but
I will tell you to ask those continue to pump
out major league players from their minor league system, and
you know that that's a testament tool how hard the

(02:33:02):
guys are working in the chemistry we have in this organization.

Speaker 4 (02:33:05):
Yeah, the development and the scouting has been nutsing short
of fantastic. And what a season been here eleven years
in this town, and what a satisfying season considering all
that you've overcome and resilient and the great moves you
made at the deadline and to bring guys like Hayward
in Kakuchi at the trade deadline. Congratulations, Dana, enjoy it.
I know there's a lot of business to handle, and
whatever hours you are left to enjoy the division title

(02:33:26):
before you start working towards the playoffs, enjoy them. You've
earned it, man, And we'll look forward to next Wednesday,
and at that time should be one to oh when
you join us next Wednesday in the postseason, so we
look forward to it.

Speaker 1 (02:33:36):
Man, congrats, all.

Speaker 6 (02:33:38):
Right, thank you Astro fans. We're back. We're not done yet.
Let's go there.

Speaker 1 (02:33:44):
You go enjoy it.

Speaker 33 (02:33:44):
Man.

Speaker 4 (02:33:45):
That's Dandon Brown Astros Gym. We will come back and
finish up a few comments and a few little analysis
from what he took from that and the Jordan Alvarez
talk that Sports Talk seven ninety rolls on.

Speaker 8 (02:33:58):
The Seawan Salsbury Show continue burning with.

Speaker 4 (02:34:14):
Desire short segment to redrap them back for the Gentleman
with Dana Brown.

Speaker 5 (02:34:19):
So I figured, you know what, Astros just won the
Al West for the four straight year, seven out of
the last eight years.

Speaker 1 (02:34:27):
Let's toe go Astros.

Speaker 5 (02:34:30):
Song sucks and it kind of has, if you think
about it, kind of has a Western tune to it.
So it makes sense for Western Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (02:34:38):
It makes sense to put the mute button on this thing.

Speaker 4 (02:34:43):
Yes, thank you for not forcing that on Dana Brown,
to have him force him to listen to that.

Speaker 1 (02:34:49):
He probably has on his playlist. To be honest with you,
stop Yeah, the one he's gonna throw in the trash.
I don't know why you guys are so down on
this man. Song sucks. Felipe Happy now you got him
as cut. Yeah, I'm happy, you know you should be.

(02:35:10):
They won the division, man, life's good. They did.

Speaker 5 (02:35:13):
They did win the division seven out of the last
eight years. And if you take that drum ass COVID
season out seven straight years, insane run.

Speaker 4 (02:35:23):
Yeah, the vid man, Yeah, they get rid of the VID.
You love that. Congrats to those Astroses. Hell a hell
of us. Yep, hell of a season.

Speaker 5 (02:35:35):
And we'll we'll diagnose what Dana Brown said tomorrow. Sure
will Astros day game.

Speaker 4 (02:35:43):
I go into Thursday a tad bit concerned about your town,
a little bit, tad bit concerned a little bit. Hopefully
the rest will be a great benefit.

Speaker 5 (02:35:52):
Yep, they're gonna give them the next five days off.
Just let the big man get that knee right and
then let him cook. Yes, let him show up and
show out. Yeah, you just gotta let him cook. He
knows how to cook.

Speaker 1 (02:36:08):
Though.

Speaker 4 (02:36:08):
That dude can bring it in the postseason. Let's hope
he's closest one hundred percent as you can be at
this stage.

Speaker 1 (02:36:12):
Yeah, I have no doubt about it.

Speaker 5 (02:36:14):
Take those five days, rest it up, get that inflammation down,
let's go get right, get after you.

Speaker 1 (02:36:18):
Next Tuesday. All right, it's gonna do it. Yep.

Speaker 5 (02:36:21):
If you missed that interview with Astros gentle manager Dana Brown,
it's gonna be up on our blog after the show
at Sports seven ninety dot com for Shawn Salisbury, our
producer Emmanuel Elmore, Triple E. I am Brian Lilima. Thank
you for listening. Back tomorrow morning at six a m.
But don't go anywhere. Next up, We'll stand Northflee Chris
Cordy coming up next on spour Stock seven to eighty
