Speaker 5 (00:30):
The playoff picture is shaping up. I believe the Yankees
clinched the AL East, the Dodgers clinched the NL West
lot going on Happy Friday.
Speaker 7 (00:41):
Fellas took the.
Speaker 8 (00:43):
Dodgers long enough, Happy Friday man there bull driving. Yeah,
I don't believe. Is this freaky Friday? No fights on Friday?
Fight song Friday? What an overrated name that is? I'm kidding,
Look at me.
Speaker 7 (00:57):
I've already down on fight Let's say two weeks in now, we.
Speaker 8 (01:00):
Got have Have we played an IVY League fight song triple?
We haven't have nothing. I'm sure we played Uh Soul
Ross States? No, actually we have not. That's that's racist.
That is racist racist triple. Either you haven't played Soul,
Rass State or Prairie Views. Thank god he played so
(01:22):
he played the PV.
Speaker 7 (01:24):
He played PV and he played USC. But No, he
started out as to.
Speaker 8 (01:28):
The Charnald all this, then he goes in rolls up
on Prairie View, his alma mater. Somehow, some way, Soul
Ross State got left in the dust. You know what
I call that? Gotta be racist, has to be in
some form or fashion it is. I took your side
on this finally, just between you and I. I had
to make him feel good, to make it feel good,
(01:50):
like we weren't ganging up on him, like he's being
a little bitch. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 7 (01:55):
Yeah, except that morning.
Speaker 8 (01:57):
True, you guys do start good morning? Guy said good morning. No,
we ain't doing that. We're not saying good morning. I
mean we are so today like always what anybody says,
how are you doing? What are you gonna say? We suck?
It's an awful day, awful day? How are you doing?
Not good?
Speaker 7 (02:11):
Yeah, it's okay, we got what do we what do
we got for?
Speaker 8 (02:15):
What are we doing here? Son?
Speaker 7 (02:16):
Let's see who does soul your talma?
Speaker 8 (02:18):
Do you even know your thought fight song? Yeah? I do,
of course. Did you guys get your ass kick last
last week?
Speaker 6 (02:23):
We did?
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Western Oregon beat the Breaks off UE thirty nine, seventeen.
Not good man, Oh oh even better. We traveled to
A and M Kingsville tomorrow night. Great A and M Kingsville. Yeah,
I am kingsvillod luck really good D two program. You
had my quarterback that played after me at USC. I
(02:43):
mean you see at Orange Glen High School? You know
the fighting Patriots.
Speaker 8 (02:46):
Yep, sure do.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
We had.
Speaker 8 (02:47):
We had a run at my high school about eight
to ten Division one quarterbacks in a row. Jesus like
Colorado State, Hawaii, SC, Long Beach State, Cal Yeah, hell yeah,
uh B y or B y U Oregon Dang, we had.
(03:07):
We had a hell of a run. He was a
he was the coordinator and uh and the head coach. Uh.
He was the head coach at Kingsville. Darren Wilkinson my
high school. His brother was on my high school basketball.
He was a couple of years younger, so pretty cool man.
So hopefully they'll open up can on Soul Ross. Or
should I rally runs? He's not there anymore, he's back
out West. But should I rally around Soul Ross? You think?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (03:29):
Yeah, I would say so time rally? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (03:32):
Man.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
They traveled to Pepsi Field at Hallellena Stadium, seven pm kickoffs.
Speaker 7 (03:36):
Called the Hallenas are the javelinas hovellenas.
Speaker 8 (03:39):
Yeah. You ever been on a golf course and seeing
one of those.
Speaker 7 (03:44):
In West Texas?
Speaker 8 (03:44):
Yeah? Absolutely, yeah, not ideal. All you gotta do is
hit a low stinger.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Man I taken five iron Alleena's head. He probably wouldn't
even do it.
Speaker 8 (03:53):
Those golf courses when you see wildlife on him are
pretty cool. Playing in montane se a moose? Yeah, yeah,
you feel me? Yeah, it's pretty good. We're not coming
up with moose. Okay, what's the plural of a bunch
of moose? Moose? Mooses?
Speaker 5 (04:09):
Not mooses or mease, there's a bunch of moose. Yeah,
there you go, it's a bunch of moose. Look at
all the moose over there past the quiz early? Yeah,
good at six? What a night the Astles had last
they did? They played well? Yeah? Do we call it
a buyer a day off? We call it a day off
in baseball, off to buy to buy in football? You know, hey,
we've got to buy today, right, we do day off?
(04:30):
It's a day off, that's for sure.
Speaker 8 (04:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
They didn't play last night. Yeah, setting up the rotation
Blanco tonight you won't see YRD on the whole postseason.
No way, I'm kidding.
Speaker 8 (04:42):
I'm using reverse psychology, okay, and try to reverse it.
Can we win?
Speaker 9 (04:47):
No?
Speaker 8 (04:48):
I say we liked whoa whoa? Okay, can we win
with at Lansmer Colors. That's where I was going. I
was like, whoa, whoa, whoa?
Speaker 7 (04:58):
The uh the big Man?
Speaker 8 (05:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (05:02):
Can we can you ask world? Can you can you
be World serious without him?
Speaker 8 (05:08):
Gotta have you?
Speaker 10 (05:09):
Sure?
Speaker 8 (05:09):
Yeah? Even after no King Tuck for seventy five and
they had a better record, but they had yord On. Okay,
well they got King Tuck and they don't have your
Let's let's just say okay, let's look at let's let
let's do this. We're gonna build from the bottom up
like the worst scenario. Okay, he doesn't play in the postseason.
Can they win the World Series?
Speaker 6 (05:29):
No?
Speaker 8 (05:31):
He misses a he missed, he does not around to
the a l c S. Can they win the Divisional Series? Yes?
Speaker 5 (05:36):
Five gamer, Yeah, I think I can get through five seven.
The true test of who's the best team, best line
is it? Because it's Jordon and how good he can
be and how what what a what a hitter?
Speaker 9 (05:45):
He is.
Speaker 8 (05:46):
Or is it also what's bigger the fact that it's
just Jordon and we know how good he is, Or
is it Jordon's postseason Uh, chops, postseason not just chops
but postseason magic.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Yeah, it's it's I think it's just because it's Jordan,
But you can't discount what he's done in the playoffs
and also what he does to that lineup.
Speaker 8 (06:06):
Yeah, I don't think you can roll through. You may
get to the National League. I'm not sure you can
win a seven game series against them without Jordon in
the middle of the lineup. Okay, another scenario, you get Kokuchi,
love that name, I say for you, you say right,
You get Kokuchi pitching like he's pitched Fromber doing Fromber.
(06:30):
They's pitching like he's pitched and the dominant Hunter Brown. Okay,
in a seven game series and they're all pitching top shelf,
no Jordon, doesn't matter who the opponent is. Then you
win a World Series. They all give you as good
as start as they as you can as you can
(06:52):
imagine for that. I don't mean no hitters, but they
go seven and a third and they're all at their best.
But you don't have your on can you win a
World Series?
Speaker 5 (07:04):
I think they can, just because it's the Astros. But
would you bet on it? No, that's the better. Would
you take your money and bet it? Okay, you'd bet
against it. I just think you'd bet against it or
with it. I don't need an explanation just yet.
Speaker 8 (07:17):
I'll get it. We'll get the analysis. Just a yes
or no. Ten thousand bucks. You get ace starts from
those three guys in a seven game series against the
Dog the Padres or the Phillies of the Dodgers, in
the World Series or in the Alcs for forget even
the World Series against whoever you want to the Yankees
or what have you. I don't care. You get to
that an he won a World Series? Can they let
(07:43):
me flip it? You got ten grand got a bet?
Would you bet on that? You said? No? Jordan playing
like if he plays, he's going to win the MVP
of the series. Okay. You get average start from Hunter Brown,
(08:04):
lights out start from Kakuchi, and a rough start for
fromber I just it doesn't matter who love the three.
That's you get a bad, a mid and a lights
out start in a seven game series. Are you taking
that scenario with Jordon being an MVP. I mean he's
hitting like if they win the series, he's the MVP.
(08:24):
Or the other scenario where they all three pitch gems
and you don't have Jordon in the lineup, Well, I yeah,
you could choose one of the two. Give me Yrdon
in the lineup because pitching is so yet. Okay, for
I'll save the explanation. Just give me Yrdon in the lineup,
and I think they your chances go up. Okay, I'm
gonna take the other scenario. If you said, ALCS, you
(08:46):
don't have Jordon, you got the rest of the guy.
Bregman's in a lineup, Tucker's starting in right field. You
give me that lineup and you get those three front
line pitchers pitching like aces and getting into the seventh inning.
As that's that's the way you can win without Jordon.
Now in the third scenario of well it's really the
(09:08):
second star, but kind of the other scenario of Jordon
playing great and you're getting a good one, an average one,
and a bad one of the three front line starters
gonna have I'm with to have without no with Jordon
with Well, Jordon's hitting like the MVP in the series.
But that's the start you get in the first three,
and then the fourth starter, whoever that is, gives you
(09:30):
five and a third and pitches decent. It's a it's
a six to four type game for either side. I'm
taking I want the greed, I want both, but I'm
just saying, and that's we're starting at the low hanging fruit. Yeah, Tougher,
that's not an easy decision, though, is it. No Kokuchi
fromber Hunter Brown and Kokuchi give you seven and two
(09:52):
thirds of lights out pitching and you have no Yordon
in a seven game series. That's gonna give you a
good chance of winning being you know, of being winning
three games. If Jordon's hitting like the MVP, but they're
pitching bad, average and good in those three guys, you
still have a chance of getting beat four two or
(10:12):
we're losing four to one. Give me the first scenario. Now,
give me six inning starts for all three and Jordon
playing like the MVP. That's the next scenario. They're winning
the series.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
Yeah, they'll win that one, right.
Speaker 8 (10:25):
Yeah, I agree with that, because Jordon can make up
for about three batters that aren't doing anything. But the
other side of it is, even with Jordon's bat. If
you don't get great starts from your frontline pitching, especially
in the postseason, I think you have a hard time win.
We've seen guys have phenomenal plate appearances and if their
staff can't go the right way, isn't doing their thing,
they're not winning. They may steal one or you may
(10:47):
all of a sudden in one of those days when
when the pitcher's struggling like that was going mid in
the middle, that's having an average game. Then Tucker and
al two Van Bregman do their thing. I'll take my
chances that if Jordon struggles, but I got those three
pitching gems, that one of our other guys or two
of us are going to take care of their business.
But on the other side, I got nobody to salvage us.
(11:09):
If we're pitching poor in one of those games or average,
and you get the one start that's a guaranteed win.
Guy goes seventy two thirty and you're picked. You know
you're playing your ass off on the mound, pitching your
ass off. So if you get both. Now, as I
kid now, the great scenario is that Jordan takes these
few days off, comes back and is about ninety five percent,
swinging the bat with incredible explosion. My next concern is
(11:30):
when he does come back, and if he plays sooner
than later like in the first series, how healthy is
he and what's the risk a swing and a miss
on an off speed thing? You know, you know what
I'm talking about the torque And it's like, okay, now
we get him at seventy five percent, you still like
to have his bat in the line of just for
presents alone, held him at seventy five percents usually better
(11:51):
than a lot of the guys at eighty five ninety percent,
that's what you don't want. So there's it's a slippery
slope and you you got to feel good running those
three starters out there in the in the early series.
I'll tell you what the next concern is, don't have one.
Don't start kicking rocks where you go out there and
struggle early in the first three innings of a game
and the pitcher's pitching good and you don't score, and
(12:11):
we leave a great performance on the mount and get
beat in the first game of a wild card and
now you're in a gripping mode. And if it's without Jordon,
how much more pressure comes on the other guys in
the middle of the line and even at the end
of the line up to be table setters. So al
Twove's not hitting solo home runs or Bragman at the
top of the order, and Bregman's got a hit in
the two hole, don't you think in the most season?
(12:31):
So oh yeah, no question. So yeah, there was a
bunch of scenarios. I threw at you a bit. Yeah,
but it comes back down to do you try what's
the strength of the team.
Speaker 7 (12:39):
Well, Jordon does a lot, Oh, there is no doubt.
Speaker 8 (12:41):
But can Jordon hit four forty five home runs in
a series and be you know, slugging where he's five
to eighty and the ops of twelve hundred and they
pitch average and still lose? Yes, Yes, if they pitch
great and Yordon hits two forty, can they still win? Yeah?
I think so. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
So I just think because of the presence affairs, it's like, well,
let's just apply.
Speaker 8 (13:06):
I'm not saying listen, jord On and his career has
been better than mixing, but just look at what's happened.
Or take let's go to another team. Take McCaffrey out
of San Francisco's lineup, Well, we're seeing it, and party
played his ass off last week and they lost. That's right,
so quarterback, we said, quarterback, But you took that. It's
the presence even if McCaffrey was in the lineup and
didn't touch it. The dicycl like when you're on pitcher
(13:29):
and you go to the mountain in Jordan, stand in
the battersbox if he strikes out three times and pops
up the fourth. But going into the game and the preparation,
you are staying on the mounta thinking I missed slightly
and this ball is in the upper tank, right.
Speaker 7 (13:41):
Yeah, because it doesn't with him, it doesn't matter if
you're a lefty.
Speaker 8 (13:45):
It does not matter a matter of fact, you can
you could throw lefties in every single start you want
and out of the bullpen that he doesn't face the
right hand of the whole time, and guess what he'll do.
He mashes. So I just think that I'm gonna trust
what we always hear. Pitching beats good hitting. Yes, good
pitching beats good hitting. Yeah. So but now we don't
(14:05):
even want to think about it without your done, But
the reality still exists. We don't know yeah, so, which
also adds more pressure to a fromber Hunter Brown. You say,
Kakuchi lights out, start, don't get down oh one in
a short series, because a lot of times the best
team does not win. No, god no.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
Speaking of that wildcard series, there's been some movement in
the wildcard standings in the American leads. Let's take a
look because there's still some scenarios on who will come
to Houston to take on the Astros.
Speaker 7 (14:36):
We'll discuss that next right here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (14:41):
Hello, haters from LA to New York, Parker Rop and
Kiss hour ass Astros. Oh my goodness, this is Sports
Talk seven ninety Home of your Astros still twenty seventeen cheps.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Sewn.
Speaker 11 (15:00):
Salisbury Show continues right now.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Welcome back to the John Salisbury Show here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Shawn Salisbury, Brian Lilima, Manuell Moore, Astros
Guardians Tonight in Cleveland six ' ten, the first pitch,
five o'clock on Deck Show right here on seven I one,
your home for Astros, Baseball, Texans and Jags. This Sunday
noon kickoff over at NRG Stadium. Cowboys take down the
Giants in Thursday Night Football. As we're talking about the
(15:58):
playoff picture shaping up in Major League Baseball, you look
at the updated standings in the wildcard. Obviously, the Astros
are gonna welcome in either the Royals or the Tigers.
The Minnesota Twins lost late last night. They fall to
three games back of that final wildcard spot. The Royals
(16:21):
and Tigers both tied eighty four, eighty five and seventy four,
So still not sure who could come in to Houston.
It's either going to be the Royals or the Tigers,
and neither one will be easy.
Speaker 8 (16:33):
No. Kansas City concerns me too, because they they're they
grind in a three gamer. Yeah, I don't like it.
I don't like either of them. Yeah, I don't want
to deal with the I mean, I'm out of mind
dealing with. But the pitching, frontline pitching of Detroit pretty
damn good. And when you got a guy, well, they're
(16:55):
your Dons. Bobby Witt junr. And he's had a hell
of a year, Sean. The Tigers are nine to one
the last ten, they've won five in a row. They're
playing really good baseball and they're about to open up
a series against the White Sox. Aj Hemp's a Hemp. Yeah,
we all we all love them. Aj hnch is a
good manager, he's proven that. And then the Royals take
on the Braves for their final series. So not an
(17:21):
easy matchup.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
No, I would say the Royals have the tougher opponent
in the Atlanta Braves than the Detroit Tigers have in
the Chicago White Sox. I would say that that's a fair,
fair assumption. Yeah, Chicago White Sox are terrible. Another terrible
thing in baseball. What's going on in Oakland? Final game
played at the Oakland Coliseum last night. They played in
(17:45):
front of forty seven thousand fans.
Speaker 8 (17:48):
Too bad they weren't like that. If they were like
that in June, yep, they wouldn't be saying goodbye. And
if they, if that city would have come to an agreement.
It's a tough it's a tough. Here's the the build
out around it, you know nowadays, if you don't have
entertainment around it, Yeah, it's really hard to be successful.
Now there's a few, you know, you got a place
(18:10):
like I still love old ballparks with new amenities. Right, So,
as much as you say out of the area and
Oakland the rest of it. I got some great memories
there as a player football player, going there and playing
on a dirt infield when it was Oakland Alameda County Coliseum,
when I was in the NFL, and then as a
guy who's gone as a baseball fan just to watch
games there. One of my very dear friends is the
(18:31):
GM there and hasn't been forever, and Billy Bean has
done a phenomenal job with them. Gosh, his team, He's
got to be the longest tenure GM on one team
in baseball. I'm not even sure it can be close
right now, because a lot of the goods of the
Dombrowskis and those guys, Jeff Luno's they went somewhere else, right,
I mean, his his run. It's been phenomenal on a
team that gives him about eight dollars to operate with.
(18:54):
But it's it really is sad to see what happened,
you know, Langelier. Did you see him, you know, putting
dirt and cups and stuff for the fans, and it
is sad. There's a ton of memory, dude, I can
you can go through the football memories in that stadium
and the baseball maasicy. My baseball memories first ones are
Reggie Jackson, sal Bando, Jean Tennis, Bert camp and Eiras,
Billy North, Catfish Hunter. There of watching them and then
(19:17):
their rivalry with the National League in the Reds in
the early to mid seventies, it was A's Red's, A's
reds Now. You're always gonna have the Yankees that are
going to hang around in somebody else. But those old
school A's uniforms awesome against the big Red machine.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
And dude, they were stars galore. They have the Bass
Brothers right right.
Speaker 8 (19:33):
You had Billy Martin, you had Dick Williams or the
age you had obviously, Sparky Anderson was leading the Cincinnati
through the World Series and what some still thinks the
best offensive team ever put together. So it was it's
a fun watch man, I feel for the fans. But
unfortunately this had to happen.
Speaker 6 (19:52):
You can't.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
It had to. So it's you needed it, you know,
in a new ballpark, you needed in an area or
you've you've been, have you been in that area? No,
you take the from the airport, you can take the train,
when you take the tram to downtown. When you leave
the airport, take the train driven through. I've never take
the tram. You'll go right by where gold where Golden
State's stadium used to be, and then Oakland Allo Meda
County Coliseum and wrap around get yourself downtown. It's just
(20:17):
you think about it, the basketball, the football, and the
baseball memories there. Golden State's had a good run and
they did it in that building and in their new building,
and there's been some phenomenal games played baseball and basketball
in that ballpark. But you just it had to be changed,
and Vegas watch. They're going to be smaller ballpark. It's
going to be awesome because people that aren't even as
(20:37):
fans when they're there, you're just gonna want to go
to the ballpark, right, and so it'll be pretty cool.
I do I feel for I feel for the fans
because there are good fans there. They can't control some
of those decisions. Now when you see what happened last Nay,
that's where Oakland used to be. That's where it was a.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
Couple of years ago when they made the playoffs. Camera
what year was do those vo as weel as they
had going jobs? Best best pregame music in the country.
And when you go in there, sitting around eating hot
dog before the game, watching batting practice, is Oakland the
best They got, the best sound system, best they've been
when I was, it's the best cuts in the whole,
in all of baseball. Frigging awesome. You go in there,
(21:13):
you feel like you're at a concert, and then it's
just but just the tradition of being there. But unfortunately
tradition unless you're a Fenway Park and Wrigley Field or
like Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 8 (21:23):
They got la, but there's nothing on the ball. You're
up on the hill there at Chavez Ravine you can
go down, but the entertainment value around the ballpark these
days you have to be Look what Saint Louis has done,
Look what Atlanta's done. They got to do it here.
We're missing that guy at both at both at Minute
Made and over there at NRG big time. So they
had to go. Yet you feel for the fans who've
(21:44):
been there, the Black Hole Raider fans, to all these
Oakland A's fans, And I'm just telling you, when you
think about even forget to even just going back to
the seventies with Reggie and Joe Rudy and Jean Tennis
in that group is when Zeno and Tim Hudson and
Mark Mulder were winning twenty games or they were dominating
and winning Cy Young's, that ballpark was rock And then yeah,
(22:06):
oh and we well we know about the Konseka MacGuire times.
Look how I mean, it's been a long time, but
think how far it's fallen. And you just can't you
just can't operate a franchise when nobody's in the ballpark. Yeah,
it's sucking. And the area around it, nobody wants. Nobody's
gonna go there and hang around. It's not it's not
a it's not it's not conducive to what they're trying
(22:26):
to do to build a ballpark. But those Oakland fans
have been passionate and loyal for a long time, through
some tough times but a lot of good times.
Speaker 7 (22:34):
Yeah, they that that whole situation.
Speaker 5 (22:36):
I've got a couple of little statistics that I want
to talk about when it comes to the Oakland Athletics
and there, Uh, they're pretty bad, pretty bad owner They've
got some pretty bad ownership there.
Speaker 8 (22:47):
Most people don't even know the name of the you know,
you know, the the Hunt family and John Fisher. Yeah,
most people have no idea who it is. Why Ye,
well he doesn't pay no no when you're and he
doesn't make you don't If he walked into him, you'd
never know who he Well, you wouldn't Nope to one
hundred and eighty degrees different like a Jerry Jones who's
always who's always in your faith? I mean, you see him,
(23:07):
I wouldn't. I know who he is as a billy,
but I would not know who the guy is if
he walked into the room.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Yeah, I got some things here that he did not
do to try to help out the situation. It alls
on him too. Oh yeah, there's no doubt. And also
want to I want to relate. Relate it back here
to the ownership groups for all the teams here in
the city of Houston. We'll discuss the next on Sports
Talk seven ninety Attention all baseball and softball athletes. Hitters
House Houston is now open. The Marucci Sports Indoor baseball
(23:33):
and softball training facility is ten thousand square feet of
hitter's paradise, seven batting cages with pitching machines and track man.

Speaker 7 (25:15):
Welcome back to The Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
You're on Sports Talk seven ninety Sean Brown and Tripoli
Astros Guardians tonight in Cleveland, sixty ten, the first pitch
five o'clock on Deck show right here on seven on
your home for Astros Baseball, Texans and Jaguars noon kickoff
this Sunday at NRG Stadium, Georgia, Alabama, Saturday Night, Big
SEC matchup. Uh, you know, real quick on these Oakland Athletics.
(25:38):
They played their final game yesterday at the Oakland Coliseum.
In two thousand and four, the Oakland Athletics gave Eric
Chavez sixty six million dollars. In two thousand and five,
John Fisher took over the A's as the owner. Twenty
(25:58):
years later, Eric Chavez is still the biggest contract in
A's history. But yet John Fisher released the statement just
a couple of days ago and literally said, we tried, no,
you didn't you go twenty years without giving someone more
than sixty six million dollars.
Speaker 8 (26:17):
Now Here. Here's the thing, what John Fisher does. John
Fisher lives in the baseball world like it's the like
it's the real world, and baseball salaries are not the
real world, right, But it's well, it's hard for the
guy who's working nine to five or should I say
seventy hour weeks, the guy or the gal who are
(26:37):
busting their ass and you know, all, I don't need
all the hardcore work that they Excuse me that none
of us, even former athletes, athletes, the other some of
those two athletes, can fathom even the money they're paying now,
even as a former athlete. Damn, we had a good
then they got a great now. That's just the way
(26:57):
life is. Right with Fisher, He's still living like it's
nineteen seventy, nineteen eighty, nineteen ninety. I mean not just salaryiz.
But it just goes to show you John Fisher, the
owner of the Ace, winning is not the priority. Making
money is right. So he's bottom lined it. He's treating
it like corporate America. And he's the owner of the team.
(27:20):
He can do whatever he wants, true if he doesn't
want rings. And the fact that they've been able to
hang around and do some things them all these years
of moneyball is fascinating. The truth is the general manager
there with all that he's had to work with and
Billy and I know, maybe i'm a little I'm a
little biased and Billy's had opportunities to go and be
the highest paid GM elsewhere Boston and I would imagine
(27:43):
twenty more places. Right, you're dealing with well, basically every
night they show up. I'm not defaulting the players, but
with the way they pay in their structure, you're actually
playing a game. It feels like with seven guys every night,
and those seven guys have to overachieve to be in
the game. That's that's what it feels like every time
(28:04):
Oakland lines up during the season and to do what
they've done and still be formidable, and they are. You
know they do. If you went through there to a
decent baseball fan that watches, not not a hardcore the
hardcore baseball fans have trouble name their starting lineup on
a regular basis, and so they've achieved. But John Fisher,
the owner, the fact that twenty years later, k Chavez
(28:26):
is still their highest paid player, well it is, Well,
that makes him the highest paid player in a history
if it, because there's nobody getting more than him before that, right,
and so since then then, and Chavez was a hell
of a player, right, But the fact that they're not
moving forward, he's treating it like corporate American and the
rest of it. Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna make sure
that the And if you're a blue collar struggler, you're like,
(28:49):
that's the way it should be, right. The problem is
when you could partmentalize and put it to baseball in
baseball terms, that's you. You can't survive it, that'd be
in basically in baseball terms, it's like your there's there's
only one solution for that. There's only one answer is
that he cares more about the wallet than he does
about winning. And it's his money, it's his team if
(29:12):
he wants to keep going on. Yet, if they were
to go win a World Series with this type of
payroll and see in contracts, it would be the greatest
feat in baseball on the planet.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Absolutely, And you know what he'd do take all the
credit for the ring. I think the thing that bothers
me the most is like, in this statement that he
released to the fans and to the baseball world, it's
confessed to somebody else's fault. Yeah, he focused on the whole.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
Failing to get a new ballpark done, We've proposed and pursued,
pursued five different locations in the Bay Area, and despite
mutual and ongoing efforts to get a deal done for
the Howard Terminal project, we came up short.
Speaker 8 (29:53):
Well, listen, we.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
So I get I get one to get a new
ballpark and get a new area. I understand that. But
at the same time, you're the owner of the freaking team.
You can try to improve your roster and spend a
little bit of money.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Right.
Speaker 8 (30:06):
He wants them to give He wants them to give
up everything and him to give up nothing. Yes, and
here here's the thing. Okay, we'll do it. But increase
your payroll to two hundred and twenty minute whatever. I
don't even know. You're not the Dodgers, but increase your payroll. Right, Well,
we're a small market team, Okay, then at least be competitive.
He's not his siity. They're not competitive, not even That's
(30:28):
all mind boggling in the sports because sports world's fantasy
where when it comes to money most people can't fathom it.
But in the sports world, if you want to keep up,
got to pay. Nobody will ever have a lower payroll
than them as long as he's the owner. As long
as they do the moneyball thing. I would love to
see them see what it's going to be like in
Vegas if he'd do it. But if he goes there
and still does the same thing, they won't win a
(30:48):
World Series. Even though it'll be more entertaining to go
to him, he'd be cool. It's Las Vegas a lot
to do. But that team's guts this year considering what
they got to go now. I don't feel sorry for
him because they're still making a lot of money, But
I talk about the overall. Sometimes you got to overspend
to go get great players. Think about the guys they've had,
Miguel Tahata, I mean, man, but they've had great players
and they end up ending up being great for somebody else.
(31:09):
So it's just and we'll move on from this. But
it to me, I almost feel like there's got to
be you got to put a mandate on owners to
be to be competitive.
Speaker 6 (31:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
And then also another thing that kind of bothers me
about this whole situation is Major League Baseball. Rob Manford
and then the rest of the owners all agreed said, yeah,
get him out of Oakland.
Speaker 8 (31:28):
You don't have to do that. You have to you
don't have to do anything. You could have said. They
exhaust every opportunity.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
You could have said, hey, John, let's hold you accountable
and spend some freaking money.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
Well, if they love Oakland so much, major League Baseball's
got plenty of money. You step in and help fund
a stadium, or you step in and help fund the
give them a loan that allows a low interest loan,
or whatever. You can do whatever you want. They got
get what I'm saying. There's way It's like the salary
cap in NFL. There's ways to manipulate it. I mean
legally within the rules, right, But they want it out,
(31:56):
make no mistake about it. They want to be They
want what everybody wants, the new AMNI, the entertainment. And
I don't blame them, but you got to be COMPETITIVEF
you want your team to win, you just can't keep moving.
And Baseball can't keep supporting an owner who isn't I mean,
we'll run a guy out who does something stupid. Rightfully,
So the Daniel Snyder's and the Clippers owner, right, yeah,
those for sure, but should we also not for the
(32:16):
same reasons. But shouldn't we also say listen, you're not
they're competitive because you've Billy knew how to scout and
go get talent. They're not competitive because your salary pay scale.
And i'll tell you another thing. Know the room owner
that your press conference now wasn't the way to leave.
Everybody knows why you're leaving. How about the old you
(32:38):
know what phenomenal, the run we've had here in our fans.
Speaker 9 (32:42):
You know what?
Speaker 8 (32:42):
You don't have to It's it's almost like you stuck
a knife in their back on the way out. That's
exactly what you know what? Just just stare them in
the face, say we're sorry, but move on to the
celebration of the memories. What you're gonna miss two months
down the line. Go back to why we're moving the
veg go go ahead, but please in between save the
put your foot on their throat while they're like well,
they're like gasping because you don't want any part of now.
(33:02):
The city has some responsibility in this too, yes, but
the owner's a tightwade who wants to win if it
fits under his salary structure. If not, he's just getting paid.
And if he leaves without a ring, he'll be quite satisfied.
At least that's would have never met him. It appears
like that from my vanished way. I always wonder if
Billy's gonna wake up one day, Billy being to say,
after all these years, I've given it, I've exhausted everything.
(33:26):
I would like to have an owner because if Billy
decided to leave the ace, you know how quickly he'd
be hired the next day. And now give him a full,
full on payroll, come on now, So he might be
so uncomfortable with a full on pay like I don't
know jewishwan. I'm in a penhouse, that's not I'm on
the first floor. I don't believe in this. Yeah, you
know what I'm saying. Yeah, it's just it's just a
weird dynamic. But I just it's a bummer because a
(33:49):
lot of memories are left at Oakland, Alameda County, colisem
sadly enough.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
I just it bothers me when I read this thing.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
And he says, I wish I could speak to each
one of you individually, and I can tell you this
from my heart. We tried, Yeah, stayon Oakland was our goal,
it was our mission, and we failed to achieve.
Speaker 8 (34:04):
Okay, for that, I am genuinely so got a great idea.
Put your money where your mouth is, he said. I
wish I could speak to every one of you. Yeah,
pick up the phone. All that money you make, take
take a WEEKI your time and spend eight hours a
day going down the list. Call all your season ticket holders?
Speaker 6 (34:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (34:17):
Did you call every sponsor? Did you call all the
one because some of those sponsors, I'm sure that a
ballpark there have businesses that are national, not just local.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Right?
Speaker 8 (34:26):
Are they coming with you to Vegas? Have you picked
up the phone and called your twenty five year season
ticket holder and said thank you? You not an assistant you?
So you said, I wish I could. You can not
every fan, but you can sure as hell call your
season ticket holders. You got all their information and don't
send a four email bitches. Yeah, yeah, there you go.
You know, if you said I'd like I'm going to
contact all of you, I'm going to email it.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Go on.
Speaker 8 (34:46):
If you really want to do it, do what you've done.
You've made your players go down down and your fans
go down down on a low payrol. Then you pick
up the phone and do what a real good owner does.
Shows people how to do it right.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
I feel for not just the fans, but I feel
for the stadium workers, especially the ones that have been
there for thirty years.
Speaker 8 (35:05):
They will are now out of a job throwing peanuts
and delivering soda for thirty years and everybody knows their name. Yeah.
Now the guy can't get extra money during a baseball season,
or the galley can't. The vendors always once again what
I tell you, I know we've gone along, but it's
needed the fan. The vendor always get hosts. They do
(35:26):
not have a seat at the table. And you know what,
they never will. Yeah, people say yeah they do on
social media, can voice up. Yeah, but when's the last
time John Fisher cared what somebody said about him on Twitter? Yeah,
even in their own ball because guess what happened in
every two weeks direct deposit goes in. Unfortunately for his players,
the direct deposits a lot lower than everybody else in
(35:46):
the league. Shameful that the highest paid player they've ever
had hasn't been in the league for a decade.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
Yeah, crazy man sucks. Let's get to break because we're
running behind. Next on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Ninety this Sean Salisbury Show, Continue Street.
Speaker 8 (36:12):
Uh uh uh, who's this triple a hold on?
Speaker 12 (36:17):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (36:18):
Let's see you know what conference are in?
Speaker 8 (36:22):
I don't. Is it a big school? Not really a
big big school, but what part of the country you
know where it's locating.
Speaker 7 (36:36):
The university?
Speaker 8 (36:36):
Give us the deal? You then you wouldn't know that,
does it? You know the nickname of the.
Speaker 7 (36:40):
School like the mascot?
Speaker 8 (36:41):
Yeah, no, idea?
Speaker 1 (36:44):
All right?
Speaker 9 (36:44):
Who is it? Oh?
Speaker 8 (36:46):
Yeah, it's up in the northeast. They're they're a big
ten school. The fighting right, the Fighting Right.
Speaker 7 (36:54):
I don't know do they even have what are they?
The Golden the Red.
Speaker 8 (36:58):
They're not the Golden Knights. That's that's Florida, right or something?
Nights Workers and what New Jersey right? Jersey Workers. Pretty
good team, tough, tough, they play the st Scarlet Knights.
There you go, not the gold Knight, Scarlet, silver and red.
If I'm not mistaken, Yes they are. That's Sir Henry
(37:18):
the Scarlet Knight. I thought you were going to say,
that's Sir Hannes. Sir hand no scissors hands either. We
don't like to name two name killers. Uh you know
those two dame assassines. We like those guys. You know who,
sir answer hann Is, I know, sir, mix a lot. No,
you can't touch this is it is mix a lot.
(37:39):
Who's that's a Who's I like big Bucks? And I
cannot lie that's Ah, that's not mixed a lot. That's Hammer.
That's not Hammer. I thought it was.
Speaker 9 (37:47):
No.
Speaker 8 (37:47):
Isn't it the actor on CSI, I mean on CSI
Los Angeles? What's my guy's name? Uh? I like big
butts in it?
Speaker 6 (37:56):
Is it?
Speaker 8 (37:56):
Is that mix a lot a lot? Yeah? Yeah? Okay,
So what's the actor on CSI Los Angeles? C s
I lost? You know what I'm talking about?
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Yes, you do.
Speaker 7 (38:05):
I have never even watched it.
Speaker 8 (38:07):
When you say, yeah, that's what I thought for saying
it could have been l it is mixed a lot?
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Right?
Speaker 5 (38:12):
Why are you questioning a little old school rap by me?
Because you might be a basic white guy. Just did
you know, sir, mix a lot?
Speaker 8 (38:21):
I did? Did you know? Tone? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (38:23):
I do?
Speaker 8 (38:26):
There you go? Yeah? But do you like big Buds?
Speaker 10 (38:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (38:32):
Can you lie about it?
Speaker 9 (38:34):
No?
Speaker 8 (38:35):
So the truth is when you walk into a bar
and you see somebody you may be trying to pull
maybe not I mean with the fellas, Yeah, and you
walk up to them and you just simply look, you
see one that's with the pH right? Yeah, guy, you
know what for you. I don't want you to have bandwidth.
You can change whatever you want. Guy, girl, I don't care,
(38:56):
do you? And if you just look him in the
face and go and I cannot lie? Yeah, would they
know what you're talking about? If you just go up
like you look, pretend like you're like you're a female,
You've done that before. Just pretend sure you got me?
If I look up and I having got a cold
beer and I think uh huh, and I cannot lie,
would you would you think? Excuse me?
Speaker 13 (39:18):
Right?
Speaker 7 (39:19):
You would What did you just say? What does that
even mean? But like a shot?
Speaker 6 (39:24):
Me?
Speaker 8 (39:24):
A shot? Who's your friend? I don't care if you're
a fifteen on a scale of one to ten. If
that's what comes out of your mouth, that type of voice,
I I buy her ten shots and sprint to one
out the voice the voice will kill everything. Bad voice,
bad hygiene, done deal killers. Ask come on? So if
(39:46):
you and I cannot lie, they would know? I don't think.
So what a great pickup on? And I cannot lie?
And what if what if she look you goes, oh
yeah it's archers in the back and the head you look.
Speaker 14 (40:00):
Check?
Speaker 15 (40:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Man?

Talking about Major League Baseball, the playoff picture, Astros trying
to figure out who they're going to play. It's either
going to be the Royals or the Tigers in the
wild Card which starts on Tuesday of next week.
Speaker 7 (42:16):
Also talking about the A's.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
They played their last game at Oakland at Coliseum yesterday.
Forty seven thousand fans showed up. Sad situation for the
Oakland athletic faithful. And now let's get out to the
phone lines. Ronnie, good morning.
Speaker 16 (42:30):
Good morning, guys. This is an interesting topic, this Oakland situation.
It sort of brings to mind to me, what comes first,
the chicken or the egg. You know, way back in
the beginning of the twentieth century, the owners of all
these teams owned the land. They built the ballparks, they
(42:50):
built the teams, and now the owners want the people
to do it all. We almost lost the Astros of
Fortunately Drayton McLain was still all they got. The bond
issues voted on to build minute made. But you know,
I don't feel sorry for the people of Oakland. If
(43:11):
you wanted the team to stay, you should have built
the ballpark, You should have put fourth money. But then,
at the same time, on the other side, whose responsibility
is it to provide the venue? And what do we
get if we provide them a place to play? What
guarantees do we have? And I go back to what Sean,
(43:33):
I know, you probably know who he is, very Warner, local.
Speaker 8 (43:36):
Sports guy, used to do. I know who always I
know who Barry Warner is.
Speaker 16 (43:41):
Well, I'm surprised. I'm really surprised. Brian media.
Speaker 7 (43:44):
I've been in media since twenty eighteen. Of course I
know Barry. I love Barry well legend.
Speaker 16 (43:49):
Yeah, he's great, and he has always said these teams
don't belong to us, they belong to the owners. If
Jim Crane decided today I want to get the Latino
and Hispanic population, he could suddenly decide I want to
move my team to El Paso. What would stop him.
Speaker 6 (44:08):
Except for the.
Speaker 8 (44:11):
MLB would right right?
Speaker 9 (44:14):
And so I.
Speaker 16 (44:16):
It's sad because you know, you look at what's happened.
Baltimore lost the Colts, and I guess they've built theirselves
in the New state. Cleveland lost their team and they
got it back. I mean a lot of seed these
cities have had to have lost teams and they've had
to either got a new team or they've gotten the
rights to the old team. Look what happened with the Oilers.
(44:38):
But Adams just shafted us big time. And how long
did we sit without a football team? And it wasn't
even our fault. We were supporting the Oilers, but Adams
didn't like what the city and county were doing with
the dome. So it's a real ticklish, touchy situation and
(44:59):
it's like I Sai said, it's a chicken and egg
who owns whose responsibility is it to provide the venue
for them to play? And I don't, I don't. I
give both sides bad marks on all of those because
it's you can't do anything without compromise, and of course
there was no compromise in Oakland.
Speaker 8 (45:20):
It's a great point, Ronnie, thanks for the call. Excellent
point of you know what's interesting and Ronnie makes a
fantastic point, as did Barry Barry Warner. It comes down
to this in truth and here here's the fascinating thing
about it. The owner wants the public and you raise
your you know what, and you think in the big
(45:41):
scheme of thing, they're charging me what twenty five dollars
for the year and taxes to build a ballpark everybody,
you know, razor to whatever it is. I'm not putting
a number on whatever it is. It's still twenty five
or whatever. They're taken out of your taxes, right, they
ask you to build the ballpark. Now, the smart owners,
you know what they do. They do they buy the land.
For instance, the land I'm assuming the land that the
(46:05):
one out there is. It's so fi that's the la. Yeah,
it's so fi am I to assume that then he's
a billionaire it's fifteen times over a matter of fact,
he might even be married to a Walton, the owner
of the Rams. I think one of the Walton rich
people combined too. There's a little bit of coin there, right, YEA.
I may be wrong. Kroncky is Kroncky mar there you go?
So with Kronkey am I? I think they own the
(46:28):
land instead of least the land that that stadium is
built on. Now, if you're an owner in this day
and age, the way least price will crush you, you
want to own the property, right you. Maybe I'm wrong,
but I think he may own that land because Kronky's
been a big real estate guy too, I think along
the way. So regardless, if you can own the land,
you can't. The point of this is they ask you
(46:50):
to fund their new stadium. They ask you to It's
certain in football, you know you got to. You got
to pay a premium price just to get the seat.
You know what I'm saying. What do they call those
tsls or something?
Speaker 1 (47:03):
Tickets?
Speaker 8 (47:04):
You know what I'm You know what I'm saying. Where
they're certain that they charge you a fee to is
your season ticket holder? Let me see. But with it,
they the owners ask you, oh, we're gonna move if
you don't, they want you to build the ballpark or
the stadium. And then you know what they do they
so they're you're getting money, You're you're getting taxed for it.
(47:26):
You sign, you know, you agree to pay it. And
then guess what else they do? Then when the stadium's built,
what do they do? Raise your ticket prices and charge
you fifteen bucks for a dog and a beer. Well,
that's why I take that back. Fifteen bucks for a beer,
add a dog to it, and you're about twenty one
dollars for a big old jumbo hot dog and a
large beer. So you're you're getting hosed in about three
(47:48):
different ways. Does that make sense? You see what I'm
talking about? You feel me?
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (47:54):
Sorry, I'm reading some articles about Kronkey. It looks like
he does own the property.
Speaker 8 (47:57):
Yes, Now see, now you control the whole You control that,
and that's a bunch of acres right there, and all
the parking property or the facility. So not only now
he owns everything the stadium, everything put into it. It's
all his.
Speaker 7 (48:09):
Yeah, he'd been working on that deal for over sixty years.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
There you go.
Speaker 8 (48:12):
So he owns it all, and you want to know
what that property's worth in Los Angeles as if a
billionaire one hundred times over needs one hundred more billion dollars.
But this dude owns like sixty million square feet of
real estate. That's where he Cronky's been a big a
real estate mogul for a long time. Say that again,
how many acres? Sixty million? Yeah, that and that's all
(48:32):
over the country, right, yes, so point is smart businessman
hints why he's a billionaire of a million times over.
Speaker 7 (48:40):
But sixteen point nine billion dollar worth?
Speaker 8 (48:42):
Now he and you know what he did put his money.
Put his money where his mouth is, right, why did
his thing? He owns that? So you can't. You don't
get a least guy come and say we're gonna, hie,
we're going to double your lease. No you're not. This
is my I own the property. So they can't. They
can take away your business if nobody's showing up, but
they can't take the property away for you.
Speaker 5 (49:00):
Do you know what's what's even from you? What's even
more sick? He is a he is worth sixteen point
nine billion dollars. You know where that ranks twenty fifth,
one fifteen. And you know what, his wife's family disgusting.
Kronky's married to Walton. I'm pretty sure the wife may
be worth just as much could go, if not more.
Speaker 8 (49:20):
It's disgusting. Yeah, if God bless them. Rich people like
to hang around rich people, I guess. But my thing
is that think about it once again, the fan gets
no seat the table. You are gonna help build the
stadium with your money, and then when you walk in
the ballpark in twenty twenty five or twenty twenty four,
guess what you're gonna do. Yeah, you're gonna pay more.
And if we win, guess what you're gonna do next year?
You're gonna pay even more. Sure, we're gonna h ticket
(49:41):
price right charge even Moore and the hot dog. Now
unless dollar dog night, you're gonna get paid even more.
See how that works. You build it, you pay for it,
and then you pay more.
Speaker 7 (49:50):
Kronky's married to Anne Walton.
Speaker 8 (49:52):
There there you go.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
She's obviously a part of the Walmart family, right Yeah,
Kronky's Bubba Walmart fortune brother Croggy's businesses. He owns like
all the shopping centers next door to Walmarts. He's not
an idiot, they say, don't it's crazy.
Speaker 8 (50:12):
And you know what he did. He he said, well,
not only am I going to build the stuff aroun,
I'm gonna go in and take the lady too. So now,
now combine the two salaries, all right, the two's networth
salary Like he's on salary like the two network. Well,
if he's worth sixteen seventeen billions, she's got to be
worse to match it. Yeah, at least like eight of
(50:33):
the top ten people it feel like it used to
be ten years ago. Eight of the top ten were
Walton family members. How's that? Hey, are you gonna marry up?
I'm gonna marry something who makes more money?
Speaker 9 (50:42):
Night?
Speaker 7 (50:42):
What are you worth?
Speaker 8 (50:43):
Almost twenty billion?
Speaker 15 (50:44):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (50:44):
Nice? Oh cool man? And I would buy all the
stuff around the Walton So we just control everything. Would that?
They say ninety percent of the money is controlled by
ten percent of the people's let's let's take right now,
you're going to have your ticket prices go up? Yeah, Oakland,
and he's gonna have somebody else build it for him.
Of course, So I wouldn't Ryan, real quick, what you got, buddy.
Speaker 3 (51:06):
Man, I was just reminiscing about.
Speaker 17 (51:09):
So my grandparents used to live in uh Merced, which
is outside of the Bay Area, and we were visiting
and I got to go see uh got to go
see the A's play the Tigers in the A L.
D s and the Coliseum and they as finally ended
up winning it late in the game. It was the
year Mickey won the Triple Crown. Man, it was a
turd of a stadium, I tell you what, but it
(51:29):
was a pretty turd.
Speaker 15 (51:30):
I'll tell you that.
Speaker 17 (51:31):
It was a it was a nice it was it
felt like baseball, and it sucks what's happening. But I
am super excited to go see the Astros play in Vegas.
Bet your ass I'm gonna buy tickets in one of
those games.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
But anyways, I'll let you guys get back to it.
Speaker 17 (51:45):

Speaker 4 (52:44):
All got in trouble for that one.
Speaker 8 (52:47):
I confess everybody else did it. And Ryan, I'm with you. Well,
I'm going to miss that, just the the memories there.
It had. I feel bad for the fans, but it
had to be done. I mean, it's it's kind of
it's both your works. I'm excited for them to be
in Vegas, but I feel bad for the fan that's
not going to be able to go root their team
on it in Oakland or in Vegas. And I wonder
how many of them stay Vegas fans once they left.
Speaker 7 (53:08):
Them enjoy the weekend. Ran appreciate him.
Speaker 8 (53:10):
Thanks Ryan, you guys. I hope you guys are having
a good day.
Speaker 5 (53:13):
He said, you guys, it's got to be racist, Tulie,

Speaker 7 (53:19):
You guys, you say you thought it was who that

Speaker 8 (53:22):

Speaker 5 (53:23):

I said, you did say it was no, no, no, no,
not like it was the other song that you mentioned.
I said, it's mc hammer. That's what I can't touch.
I did, oh, okay, yeah, that's where the mix up is.
I mean, we we're in this love together. I said
I can't touch this dune and I started dancing. He
says that Sir Mix, saw said, no, I think that's
(53:44):
mc hammer, And then you said.
Speaker 8 (53:46):
You brought up to that was that I knew that
that was mc hammer. You can't touch this, No, But.
Speaker 5 (53:50):
Then you brought up the I I like big butts
And then you said, sir mix a lot or is
that the guy?
Speaker 6 (53:55):
All?
Speaker 5 (53:56):
Yeah, right, classic mix up man for him to say,
you people, are you guys unbelievable racist.
Speaker 8 (54:07):
White guy? Yeah, it can't be right.
Speaker 7 (54:09):
You did have that drewsky clip like on deck like
just ready to go.
Speaker 8 (54:13):
I'm not hearing you guys. What you guys are I'm
not you guys.
Speaker 7 (54:19):
Really hurts it does man?
Speaker 8 (54:21):
I'm sadgeonhold me and exactly, man, you know what wrong
music cutry.
Speaker 7 (54:27):
Oh now it's my fault.
Speaker 5 (54:29):
That's gotta be racist. It's just just the basic white
guy on white guy hate. Man, it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (54:36):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (54:38):
That's got it good? That's a good point a lot.
And now we're going to go to the cookout. I
mean the steak out. A cookout, Yeah, steak out. So
you're not putting respect on that either. Interesting, it's probably
racist too. What a Friday, Ryan, thanks for opening up
a can of worms. And I hope you guys are
having a.
Speaker 7 (54:54):
Good unbelievable, man, unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (54:56):
That's like I throw I throw it past you, you
hit you in the chest, you drop it and it's yours.
And then Ryan calls instance, Hey, you said we was
mc hammer right, Oh bitches, no, no, but we're in
the slug together, so you know we do.
Speaker 5 (55:11):
We all take the accountability. You know, his fault was tripolice. Yep, yep. Unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (55:16):
That's a good call.
Speaker 7 (55:19):
Good call.
Speaker 8 (55:21):
He didn't miss that buzz that time.
Speaker 7 (55:23):
There didn't.
Speaker 5 (55:23):
Let's get to this stake out next right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety Fellas, you're feeling sluggish, you got
brain fog, your workouts suck.
Speaker 12 (55:30):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (55:30):
You just feel like you can't get into shape. You're
you're you're, you're gaining a little bit of a fat

don't feel well well. You might be suffering from low testosterone.

(56:34):
one eight hundred two four six low T Men's Tea Clinic.
Tell them that Brian Lima sent you.
Speaker 4 (56:43):
Trial to Broadcasting from the most hated city in baseball,
Houston rides with the Sean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (57:00):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 4 (57:02):
The Salisbury's takeout sALS takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (57:09):
It's time for the steakout.
Speaker 5 (57:13):
Here on the Sean Salisbury Show, Sean Brown and Tripoli,
all right, let's get to the steakout. Let's talk about
Matthew Sluca. So obviously he is the quarterback that decided
(57:35):
to leave the university after being the starting quarterback for
three for the first three games they are three and zero.
You have because he was apparently offered one hundred thousand
dollars and they did not fulfill that well. UNLV and
their NIL collective both issued statements and both say that
(57:58):
no agreement was in place, no contract was ever signed.
Apparently it was like an assistant coach that promised this.
The head coach also said that was not true. The
UNLV collective said to said quote to clarify there were
(58:19):
no formal NIL offers made during mister Sluca's recruitment process. Additionally,
Friends of u nil V did not finalize or agree
to any NIL offers while he was a part of
the team, aside from a completed community engagement event over
the summer at Blueprint Sports and Friends of U n
i l V. We take our commitments fair seriously. We
(58:40):
would like to emphasize that we have upheld all Friends
of U n I l V contracts this season and
have not defaulted on any agreements with mister Sluca. Our
commitment to supporting rebel student athletes remains unwavering, and we
are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of our programs.
Speaker 8 (58:56):
So I guess it comes down to do you trust
the adults or the kid in the room, even though
he's been to holy Cross and went to school and transferred.
Speaker 5 (59:06):
So okay, one last thing. Let me preface this again.
This is coming from one of the reporters in Las Vegas,
per source. When Matt Suga committed to UNLV, he did
not have a registered agent. After his successful start three
games in, he hired an agent and then went to
the UNILV, which is the collective, to try to get money.
Speaker 8 (59:28):
Of course he did, listen, I'll just early if in
fact they did sign a contract for one hundred grand,
you should pay him if allegedly had one hundred thousand
dollars deal. Now let me backtrack. First off, I don't
care if he did have it. That business you guys,
hire your agent lawyer in the background, fight with the
(59:51):
business side and the nil side in the university and
the athletic department away from it. Why are you punishing
your teammates for your money? This is a perfect case
and a perfect example of handle your business. Compartmentalize. Your
teammates didn't sign the nil They're not the ones who
took can page one hundred grand allegedly, while the university
(01:00:11):
in the athletic department of the NIL says we didn't.
So regardless of where you sit on this, here's the
one that is. There is no other answer. You quit
on your teammates three games in. I don't know why
you can't do both. You hired an agent. What you're
allowed to do now, so you and your family, And
(01:00:31):
shame on the family for I mean, I know you
support your kid first, but there's a way to support
him with also some tough love of a dad and
a mom. Look at him saying we'll handle this on
the on the periphery. You go play football. You shouldn't
be thinking about this stuff during the season, anyway, Do
me a favor. Yeah, he's from Holy Cross. Pull up
his stats three games in. I want you to give
(01:00:52):
me his stats now. And this is a guy because
they're three to zero. And remember this was a nine
win ball eligible team last year and you saw him
in here and take care of their business. What against
Houston right there? Already? That was the opening game, wasn't it.
Speaker 6 (01:01:04):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (01:01:04):
All right, So with that you read it. This is
a guy going in to renegotiate a deal that apparently
there wasn't one. Yeah, all right, here we go.
Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
So this year twenty one to forty eight passing, forty
three point eight percent, completion percentage, three hundred and eighteen yards,
six touchdowns, one interception.
Speaker 8 (01:01:25):
Okay, so here's the deal. He's averaging two touchdown passes
a game. He's completing less than forty five percent of
his passes. He's averaging one hundred and six yards. Or
let's see you said, you said three eighteen, three eighteen,
he's averaging one hundred and six yards passing a game.
Now they've won, but you can't tell me those numbers
(01:01:47):
equate to three and oh there are ten other guys
on offense, a coaching staff, and eleven dudes on defense
and special teams. Yeah, here's my take regard the business side.
If you want to go work in silence, say listen,
I believe this is it. I want more money. We'reth
three and zero. Don't now he's cut off his nose
to spite his face. Because there are other schools. If
he did want to transfer somebody, you'll probably take him,
(01:02:08):
but they're not going to stand in the line to
take a guy who quit on his teammates. That's the
essence of football, hanging in there with your teammates. I
think it's a coward move. I don't care about his money.
You hired an agent. Let the agent or attorney do
their job behind the scenes. Your right guard didn't do
and you have anything to do with this matter of fact,
I'd to gain more respect for you. Say you know,
(01:02:29):
not only am I not walking away, I'm gonna fight
for the nil money and then I'm gonna share it
with teammates if that's really who you are. But it's
not because you quit on your team. He's a friggin coward.
He's a he's a bitch ass teammate who's a coward.
Now on the business side, if they allegedly offered said
they'd pay him a hundred grand, then go to the
assistant coach and deal with that. Take it out of
(01:02:50):
his damn salary. But now you're not gonna pay the
guy because he quit on his teammates. Let somebody you
could have been the good guy both ways and respect go,
Let your agent hand you handle the football side. Go
keep winning, and if you want more money, guess what
you got to do, even though there're three know you
got to play better yeah, I don't know a guy
in the world that'd be like coming to me and saying,
(01:03:11):
I'm hitting one ninety eight, I need it five million
dollar pay raise. Did we've won four straight games, bitch,
get to the end of the line. You complete forty
two percent. I can find a high school kid to
do that in college. So with that, I don't know
him from adam. I just know this bad teammate. Handle
the business. Why you're playing football, don't you always How
many guys do you hear in pro sports say I'm
(01:03:32):
not going to talk contract during the season. I got
to play football. They're still working behind the scenes to
get their stuff done. Focus on what you do. It
is the perfect case of a spoiled entitled Even if
he thinks he had an agreement, you can still work
business while you're playing, which you supposedly love and care about.
Is your teammates. You think, all of a sudden, Auburn's
going to offer you half a million dollars completing forty
(01:03:54):
two percent of your passes. Get the step in and
now he's already proven he's a bad teammate. He quit
on his team. You could have done both work business
behind the scenes and gone out there and helped your
team win. And I know it's not just about stats,
but those stats, but stats are how you get paid.
You're three to zero, okay, and now you gave your
team a chance to go on and win a bunch
(01:04:16):
of games, and you walked on him. I hope the
backup's better. I think it's a coward move. Anytime you
quit on a teammate, I got no respect for you.
This is his the nicest kid in the world. Sorry,
this is his fifth year already, he played four years
at Holy Well. His football career I'm just going to
tell you as a quarterback ends when this season's over,
(01:04:37):
or unless he gets a sixth year I'm talking about,
he won't play one snap as an NFL football player.
So maybe that's why he's trying to go get more money.
Wants more now because he realizes that doesn't make him bad.
Good college player, fine, but he is not gonna play
one down of quarterback in the National Football League. Yeah,
so I get it why you can. I don't blame him,
but don't quit on your teammates, especially you want that
(01:04:59):
to be your life legacy. Hey Man had real good
coly Cross, good career. We're winning, and then you quit
on your teammates. Nah, man, you could say all you want,
protect these kids. Protect the kid. He's a grown adult,
he's in his twenties. Yeah, he can make these decisions.
He quit on his teammates, and that's the bottom line.
Bad teammate, bad team coward.
Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
Yeah no, I completely agree, just a bad teammates seven
one three, two one two five seven NINEY will take
all your calls. Next, continue to talk about college football.
Big one in the SEC Alabama hosting Georgia. That is
gonna be the Specs Online specs UH pick of the
Week Alabama and Georgia in Alabama.
Speaker 7 (01:05:37):
Give me, uh, you know what, I'm gonna go with Alabama.
Speaker 5 (01:05:40):
They are getting one point because Georgia is favored by one,
So I'm gonna take Alabama to win that ball game.

Live that the Shawn Salisbury show continued.
Speaker 7 (01:07:12):
Yeah, well UNLV running Rebels fight song.
Speaker 8 (01:07:19):
Yeah, so the kid is gonna that's Luca's redshirting, gonna
take it off, and then where's he playing next year?
He's in the transfer portal? Yeah, who knows. So when
the guy goes and looks, Reight State says, dude, man
that one hundred and six yards a game and forty
two percent completion percentage and showed us that you quit
on your teammates, that you could have handled the business
(01:07:40):
behind the scenes, quit in your team. So, yeah, we'd
love to have you here. And guess what he's not
gonna get from somebody the money that one hundred thousand dollars. Yeah,
unless his dad buys the company and then pays him
one hundred grand. Sorry, it's just not happening. And you're
three and oh, yes, you know it's better time to
go get that pay raise, complete sixty five percent and
go eight to O W. Then waltz in there and
(01:08:01):
show him I'm you know what? Even then how about
doing this real quick and we'll move on from this.
It did chaps my ass because I can't stand piss
poor teammates. I just can't I don't care if he's seventeen.
If a high school kid quits on his guys right now,
walks in the middle of a season because he's disappointed
that and transfers four times in high school because he
got beat out at four different schools. Guess what.
Speaker 7 (01:08:22):
Bad teammate too? Yep, Okay, So with that in mind,
is you know what even been better?
Speaker 8 (01:08:29):
Say? You know what an nil agreement that's gone south,
and I've hired an agent to go take care of it.
But I almost stay here and fight this out with
my teammates. Yeah, because I feel slighted when it comes
out again. You know what, I came here for a
reason and we're gonna win. I love these guys. I'll
deal with the business part at the end of the season.
And then you know what, someone say, Well, he would
(01:08:50):
have lost his red shirt ear, so you're gonna get
a red shirt ear. Basically, he's playing for one hundred grand.
He doesn't care about the ring because if he cared
about the ring, they're three and oh, how do you
know if where your transfer that you're gonna he's gonna
transfer somewhere. What are the chances of where he is
gonna go gonna win a national title because he's not
going to a power five school. No, if he is,
he's not gonna. If he is, he's not sure to
(01:09:11):
be in the starter. He's gonna go somewhere where he's
got a chance to you know, And it may be
he could have. He could have turned this into the
groundswell of business they owe me. But you know what,
I don't care about the business. We'll deal with that.
We're gonna keep winning. And the best time to go
and negotiate is not three and no, it's you're leading
the league in passing in your eight No, we're the
(01:09:33):
chance to go undefeated and win and be a playoff team.
Now you think about that, they have a shot.
Speaker 7 (01:09:39):
They got an outside chance if they go undefeated.
Speaker 8 (01:09:41):
Well, and an outside chance. I'm still in the I'm
still in the team picture. Yeah, they haven't erased that yet.
Speaker 5 (01:09:46):
Apparently the backup is like a team favorite, and a
lot of their players have been pining for him to
be the starter. So he's gonna finally get his chance
to play this weekend. It's a hajj Malik Williams.
Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
Good.
Speaker 5 (01:10:02):
I hope he I hope he goes, and I hope
he plays lights out and a lot of a lot
of his teammates tweeted out about time.
Speaker 8 (01:10:10):
So and do you blame him?
Speaker 9 (01:10:12):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:10:13):
Can you imagine quitting on a teammate three games in?
Where did he play? He came from.
Speaker 6 (01:10:20):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:10:21):
He apparently he's transferred from FCS Campbell.
Speaker 8 (01:10:26):
Yeah, well, I just how do you can you imagine
cheating on teammates like that? You cheated your teammates. That's
so weak.
Speaker 5 (01:10:34):
Anyway, we've given him enough. Yeah, seven load, Look, biscuit,
what's happening?
Speaker 10 (01:10:41):
Hey, top of the morning?
Speaker 8 (01:10:44):
You too, Shanna.
Speaker 10 (01:10:46):
I think we talked about this, but I think it
deserves a little more attention. It's all enough, Shanna. When
I say us our generation, because what it is is
he called his parents and they told him, yeah, go
ahead and yeah, just quit and Chance transferred instead of
his parents saying no, man, stay right there. We're gonna
(01:11:09):
try to work it out. We're gonna see what's gonna happen.
It's the parents, Shan. We our generation, Sean. We got
away from what our parents taught us. And you, when
you see an entitle kid, you ain't got no further look.
Go back to the house.
Speaker 8 (01:11:24):
He came from doesn't fall far from the tree, doesn't
It doesn't fall.
Speaker 10 (01:11:27):
Far from the tree shine. And it's sad.
Speaker 6 (01:11:30):
Man.
Speaker 10 (01:11:30):
I've seen Shane on the thirty thirty they had They
were talking to man's veil and all the stuff he
was doing when he was at A and M. And
then they talked to his dad and his dad said, well,
I was telling Kevin Sumner that no mention. Listen, Sean,
I got a forty year old, a thirty year old
to this day, if I called him say hey, man,
don't do that, do this, do this, do that. Guess
(01:11:52):
what they gonna do, Sean.
Speaker 15 (01:11:55):
They gonna do what I tell him to do.
Speaker 10 (01:11:57):
You, as a parent, you're supposed to raise your kids
having influence over there. You should have more influence over
your kids than anybody if you're doing it right. You
living right in front of them, talking right, being the system,
showing and take walking the right lifestyles.
Speaker 8 (01:12:12):
Yeah, not talking it, walking it. That's how. That's how
leadership shows and parent. You know what's interesting And it's
not a panel back for me, but I think generational.
It's not every kid, it's not every parent. It's not
just this generation is all the same. But this is
a perfect example of why people are bothered by the
generation and the entitlement is my if anytime I went
(01:12:34):
to my dad about talking to a coach from little
league to high school, yes, give him. My dad and
mom always told me you go talk to him. You
know what's right, you get whether you're twelve or twenty five.
At no time in my career, other than talking to
a coach coming up the tunnel John Robinson after a game,
say hey, coach when he walks by, my parents have
never had a conversation with a coach about my playing time.
(01:12:57):
Not in little league now, because I was playing, maybe
that was part of it all the time, but never
if you're a backup somewhere when you get to see
your backup as a freshman. At no point in time
that my dad called John Robinson or North Turner and say, hey,
remember when you sat in our living room and he said,
Sean's going to be a star at the university. But
see John Robinson. You know what he told me. As
I've said before, he said, Sean, we watch it at
(01:13:18):
the university. But if you don't come here, we're still
going to play on Saturday. We're still gonna win. So
there was perspective there and he had he handled the
generation right. But my dad always said, it's happened, you
go talk to the coach. That's yet your job. My
dad ain't calling him up right right when the dad
says that, like you're talking about with Sluca, yeah, or
what you're talking about with someone Johnny Manziel's dead. The
second I know a dad's on the phone to the
(01:13:39):
coach about playing time is the second I know I
don't have much of a player. Notwithstanding Johnny Manzil that
that's too helicopter for me. You stay out of it.
You let the kid handle it. If you want to
do it, then transfer, but let the kid go. Get
the answers, what how, what do I got to do
to get better?
Speaker 9 (01:13:55):
What do I go?
Speaker 8 (01:13:55):
And if it's no, if there's no path to get
in better or having a chance, then move move on,
go transfer. But I just to me, I cannot stand
it when a parent goes and fights the war for
the kid when he's twenty two. You go fight that
battle and then have your parents support you, but they're
not sitting in the room like you're ten and you
got you got screwed out of your your sandwich at recess.
(01:14:18):
Stop it.
Speaker 7 (01:14:19):
It's it's baffling. It drives me nuts, it does I
hate it, biscuit, it's sad.
Speaker 10 (01:14:26):
Is how do you handle adversity? You know what I'm saying,
and so something if everything ain't going right and then
ain't perfect, what's your response and.
Speaker 8 (01:14:36):
It'll and it'll be the same in your life. It'll
be the same in your life. Right and agreed, Agreed.
My dad and mom were battling my my the things
that my dad wasn't there every day at practice. My
dad's responsible as well. How are you doing when you
get your opportunity, you know, when you're a freshman in
college or yeah, no, no, that wasn't an option. So
(01:14:59):
and I'm sure that's a lot for a lot of people.
I understand the money and I understand all. But there's
a character in DNA that says, I got teammates I
gotta fight for. I'll deal with the business side while
I'm fighting with them. And he lost a great opportunity
to fight for his teammates.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
Awful, last thank Sean.
Speaker 10 (01:15:16):
We got to get back to character and intagery, man,
that's the bottom line. We got to get back to
raising our kids to have some character and antagging.
Speaker 8 (01:15:24):
And allowing them to fail. Two of Yes, and allow
them to fail and fight through it. Yes, sir, Because
if you don't know what rock bottom looks like, I
assure you in biscuit. Thank you man. We've got to
go to break great stuff. If you don't know what
rock if you've never been through it, if you're twenty
or sixty and you've never been through that, I got
news for you. At some point, you're going through it,
whether it's rock bottom of losing parents, whether it's rock
(01:15:44):
bottom of you being sick, whether it's rock bottomy, you chasing,
losing a job or getting hurt, blowing out your knee,
losing a starting quarterback job, winning a job, handling failure,
handling success, lose it. I mean you're gonna go through it.
You just are. And when it hits, I got I
(01:16:06):
got news for you. Just like a baseball for a rookie,
it will find you. Yeah, show question. If you're equipped
to handle it. It may not be fun, you'll get
to the other side. Matthews is his name, Matt Sluca. Yes,
he proved a great point to teammates. I don't want
you on my team. Yeah, into conversation.
Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
That's it seven one three, seven ninety, Rick Dennis, We'll
get to you guys next as we continue this discussion
on Sports Talk seven eighty.
Speaker 19 (01:16:34):
We want to win.
Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:16:55):
Welcome back with the Shawn Salisbury Show. Here on Sports
Talk seven ninety famous fight song.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
You know who?
Speaker 6 (01:16:58):
This is?
Speaker 7 (01:16:59):
Notre Dame.
Speaker 9 (01:17:04):
U c L A.
Speaker 8 (01:17:07):
Triple E. That is incorrect.
Speaker 5 (01:17:09):
Hold on, what's the mascot? Clemson mm hmmm? Arkansas mhm?
Speaker 8 (01:17:29):
What did they just spell? That'll give you the aid
that Minnesota go ahead? Who is it? Triple Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
Yeah, that's my thought. Yeah, Golden Gophers. Baby, let's go
yeah yeah yeah. Fights on Friday here on the Shawn
Salisbury Show seven Rick, We appreciate you holding man. What's
on your mind?
Speaker 6 (01:17:52):
Well?
Speaker 20 (01:17:53):
Uh well, first of all, thank you for taking my call.
I love your guys this show. There's decisions come up
with Alex Brigman and Kyle Tucker, and I was just
wondering how you guys looked at it and how did
it differ in parallel with the same decisions that were
made with Carlos Korea and George Springer. Kind of In
(01:18:13):
my view, I think the Astro's probably felt they had
somebody waiting in the wings with Korea and Springer, and
I don't know that I see that now, and I
would just like to get your guys' take, and I'll
hang up and listen. And again, thank you for taking
my call.
Speaker 8 (01:18:28):
Thank you for the compliment too, Rick, We appreciate it.
I think that most of us probably listen at the
I think it's also at the time, right when Springer
was going, I would say, of the three, even though
I felt like he was like the heartbeat of the team,
a big part of energy wise, Springer, yeah, he left
the field, he was thirty thirty one, felt like, well
(01:18:52):
the next year people said, what are we going to
do to the centerfield? We're going to do to centerfield.
It almost felt of the three, he was the hardest one.
There wasn't as many pay the mans as there was
with Korea. Is that true? You know, Springer was my
favorite player on the team. I loved his energy, fay,
I love the way he played. I loved his balls
to the wall, the whole thing. So maybe him and
I and I the groundswell, and then there was Korea
(01:19:13):
and here's the thing about both of those guys World
Series and postseason heroes at different times. Right, and then
Korea took on the leadership of the team and performed,
and in that last year of his career had a
big one. I think that was probably the next one.
I almost feel and I'm with him. I think they
(01:19:33):
felt they had something fairly special in Pena. I think
they think they have it was ready even though he
didn't play a lot of Triple A baseball.
Speaker 1 (01:19:42):
Right.
Speaker 8 (01:19:43):
I feel like that they think that they got some
guys at third base, but that they're further away. Does
that make sense?
Speaker 1 (01:19:49):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (01:19:50):
And it's the glove. It's the glove and the because
every proof Steve Sparks has set it. Over the last
handful of years, we heard, uh, what's our general manager
before before Dana Brown? Oh, James James Klick said it. Uh,
Dana Brown said it when you ask them for the majority,
(01:20:12):
what's the key to turning around a season? Or who's
the heartbeat of the team? And you know what they
always say first Alex President. But they did say it
about Korea. They were worried about the leadership. So I
think it Rick, that's a hell of a question, Brian,
I don't know how you feel about this, but I'm
gonna say now, if it was alto Ba'd be a
no brainer, right, It's like, you can't do it. And
I think when Tucker comes up and if he gets
(01:20:33):
healthy and plays like he's capable of, I think this
is a hard one because they all the homegrown part
of the Korea and the homegrown part of the Korea
and the Bregman make it tougher, right, Well, one was
the first pick, one was the second pick in their years. Correct,
So I don't know, I don't know, do you do?
(01:20:53):
You have a sense of what you I feel like
it's Bregman Korea back and forth here, depending on I
think Korea was more outspoken about his money and what
he wanted, which made people say Bregman's going at it.
It feels like a different approach, right, a little bit,
a little bit under the radar, not talking much about
it makes sense.
Speaker 5 (01:21:12):
Korea's uh, Korea's approached a free agency and he's free to.
Speaker 8 (01:21:16):
Do what he was a little more arrogant.
Speaker 5 (01:21:18):
You heard three hundred million, like right off the jump, right,
you don't hear anything about what Alex Bregman wants. I
think they're gonna heard one peep about it. Yeah, I
think they're gonna have more trouble. The Bregman part slightly
over Korea, which was a little bit over George Springer. Yeah,
and once once you heard you know that Krea wanted
three hundred million dollars, it was easy to say, go
(01:21:38):
get you it later and then wanted one wanted buyouts yeah,
oh yeah, yeah, the options Yeah, the music coach tan
to buy it, but the option right, yeah, no his
option no no, no, no no, And they didn't agree
with it either.
Speaker 8 (01:21:55):
And he's gone and got a pretty good shortstop. So
I think this is going to be a tough one
to part with if he'd leave. Yeah, there's something in
his in their gut. Even though the leadership of Korea
at a time when this team was the reeling over
the twenty seventeen, they need a guy to step out
in front of it and want to fight anybody that
talked about it that that was Korea. Bregman does it
a little more silently in public, but I think in
(01:22:17):
the in the locker room, I think that they understand
who who would be at the front of the alley fight. Yeah,
and it would be him, Yeah, it.
Speaker 5 (01:22:24):
Would be I think, especially what he's done with the
pitching staff this year, helping with game planning, pitch sequencing
and things like that. You don't really hear him talking
the media, but you know he's well well well respected
in the clubhouse as one of your leaders. I mean,
he still saw the I guess with Korea he was
a little more outspoken. But I just think when it
comes to like contractually in the money Korea, and for
(01:22:46):
whatever reason, we heard his what he wanted like early, Yeah,
it was crazy.
Speaker 8 (01:22:52):
Right, So none of them are easy, and then you're
gonna face the same thing next year, yeah, Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 5 (01:22:57):
Yeah, and who knows what they're gonna do with from
er Valdez. A lot of question marks when it comes
to the least free agency. But seven seven, I will
continue to take your calls. A roof, Where are we
going the roof? The roof, The roof is on fire.
Speaker 8 (01:23:11):
We don't need no water.
Speaker 10 (01:23:13):
Let that.
Speaker 8 (01:23:13):
Country boys burn, burn, country boys burn.
Speaker 1 (01:23:17):
There.
Speaker 8 (01:23:17):
You go see see what we did there? Of course
you saw we did there. I'm not gonna ask anybody
with a name who sings the song because somebody might
say tone lock like Bryan Country Boy's roofing, Country with
a K boys with the Z my guy John. You
know he'll hunt a little bit, he'll do his thing fish,
but you know what his priority is making sure you
take care of and when it comes to your roof,
(01:23:38):
whether you get out in front of it, it's older
and you need it repaired. So when the storm does hit,
it's already done. Or after the storm man did some
damage that Country Boys roofing, come out and fix it.
There's gonna be no price gouging at a time when
people are doing Can you imagine asking for more money
when somebody's in duress. That's not juwe John is or
Country Boy's roofing. No job too large or too small
anywhere in the Houston area. They'll go navigate the insurance
(01:24:00):
claims with you. They'll help you through at Texas Windstorms Certified.
But with this what I do like, since I've been
doing this, we've offered one thousand dollars. Now you can't
have both a thousand dollars discount and a fifteen hundred
dollars discount on a full roof if you're military and
you mentioned my name, all right, but they've given to
you non military one thousand dollars discount for mentioning my name.
That ain't price gouging. When it comes to fixing your
(01:24:21):
full roof, it's the same thing now, one thousand, five
hundred dollars discount on your full roof when you go
Country Boys Roofing. And if you're military, if you're a
first responder, if you're an educator, John's there to make
sure you're safe, secure, and it doesn't crush your wallet
while doing business. That's the way it's supposed to be.
So if your roof is beat up or on fire,
(01:24:43):
guess we'll fix it. Country Boys Roofing. Give them a
call at eight three two seven three one fifty six
twenty eight three two seven three one fifty six twenty
family owned and operated, locally owned and operated. It's country
with a K. Boys with the Z Roofing, Country Boys Roofing,
Country Boys ROOFIELLC dot Com, Country Boys Roofing LLC dot Com.
Speaker 4 (01:25:04):

Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
Sewn Salisbury, the to usc.
Speaker 3 (01:25:37):
Troupes, longtime friend shown Sulisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:25:39):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show,
our longest wait.
Speaker 7 (01:25:47):
We'll start with Dennis. Dennis, good morning, thank you for
holding Hey, good.
Speaker 21 (01:25:51):
Morning, fellas, thank you for that go.
Speaker 8 (01:25:53):
I gave me some the fights. I gave me some hills.
Speaker 21 (01:25:56):
Before I make my comment about Suka, I just want
to send up prayers to formed of Viking and Rice
quarterback Tommy Kramer, who An now is. The other day
he had dementia. Not only was he my favorite player
growing up as a kid, but he was the heir
apparent quarterback from Frank Targeted and he earned the nickname
two Minute Tommy for his hel Mary played with Miracle
at the Men against the Cleveland Browns back in nineteen eighty.
Speaker 8 (01:26:19):
So I want to send up praise him and then hey, Dennis,
real quick, I'll let you finish your car. I was
with Burrero Dan Burrero on his show every week on Thursdays,
and we were talking about we were talking about Tommy
and and uh, you know, Tommy came out here for
a golf event in Houston a couple of years ago,
and him and I played together in the tournament and
had a blast with friends and talking, and you know
it had an idea of what was going on in
(01:26:40):
Tommy's life. And he sure is a what a tough
solb and what a phenomenal human being and a lot
of the great memories from the old met and playing
football Tommy Kramer was a part of in Minnesota, and
I don't think he gets the national love that he
that he should. And he was great here at Rice.
Tommy Kramer was a hell of a player and a
hell of a guy. And uh, the battle will rage
(01:27:03):
on and Tommy will fight it just like he did
on the field. So I'm with you one hundred percent.
Man thoughts for him and prayers as he goes through
a similar situation that Brett fare is going through right now.
Speaker 21 (01:27:12):
Yeah, I'm not sure if you saw his face of
Facebook post, but that was probably one of the saddest things.
Speaker 8 (01:27:16):
Yeah from a from a player. But I promise you this,
He'll fight. Now. You know that Tommy will battle your ass.
I guarantee it.
Speaker 21 (01:27:24):
Yeah, Like I said he was my favorite player growing
up as a kid.
Speaker 8 (01:27:27):
So good choice.
Speaker 9 (01:27:29):
Uh yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:27:29):
On the Sluka thing, you know what that happening.
Speaker 10 (01:27:33):
What's to keep from a player?
Speaker 21 (01:27:34):
Let's say, now I have an underclassman wide receiver or
let's say running back from the Gophers. They go to
play Michigan and USC these next two weekends, right and
for whatever reason, they put up huge numbers. What's to
him to come back to say after you see as game,
you guys need to play. You guys need to pay
me one hundred thousand more dollars. I'm not playing another uh.
Speaker 4 (01:27:55):
Down for you guys.
Speaker 8 (01:27:56):
Nothing there, There is nothing. There's nothing from a guy
going in there. Now, I'll tell you what the next
level is. What's gonna happen, I guarant asked he it
is that somebody's going to be a part of this.
That's not good. That's gonna say I'm having a monster
year and they're gonna be eight games in and they're
gonna say I want more, and they're gonna go to NIL.
I can tell you a story about a Division I
(01:28:18):
school that there was gonna lose a guy and ramped
up for big money in NIL or he was gone,
kept him, went, got more money, and he stayed. So
there's nothing stopping somebody with golfers or dead matter that
if they think, well, I'm worth more than this, I'm
going in there. I'm having a hell of a season
eight games in. If they don't pay me, I'm walking. Oh,
(01:28:39):
three games isn't going to be the baseline. You're gonna
see somebody do it at the end of the season
or after a great season and try to try to
punk somebody or pull it off because they didn't get
paid more and we in game ten and then leave
a team hanging. When it comes to you, you're gonna
see it. You will see it at some point in time.
It's coming. Who would have thought somebody quarterback would have
(01:29:00):
walked away with a three and zero start and let
his teammates down when he's completing forty two percent and
throwing for one hundred and six yards a game and
thinks he's worth ten times more.
Speaker 21 (01:29:11):
And then how would that affect his eligibility with the NCAA.
Speaker 8 (01:29:14):
Well, he's gonna take a red shirt year and they
get a memorable During the COVID they gave people an
extra year as well over to so he gets he's
gonna go and he's gonna take a red shirt year
and transfer, go into the portal and go play one
year for somebody else and hope they give him money.
That's what I don't have a problem with them going
to get money. I do have a problem with you
quitting on your teammates when you made a commitment to
them and in the season walking on him.
Speaker 7 (01:29:34):
That's a problem for me, major problem. Regardless of the
business stuff.
Speaker 8 (01:29:38):
You could fight with that behind the scenes, sit in
a conference room and grown adults and try to work
it out and say we'll deal with it in the
off seat. And the kid keep on playing and go
post your score, go shoot sixty five at Augusta, and
then make everybody chase you. I don't listen. And basically
what slucas saying, you guys can't win without how to
punk my teammates. Leave you guys on an island. I
(01:29:58):
hope they keep going without him and the other quarterback
plays better. It'll send a valuable Karme lesson to a
guy who literally quit on his teammates. Regardless of the
business side, that's a taboo in sports. You want to
lose respect to players quickly, and people look at you
inside eye You're like, no, thanks, dude, go into a
football locker room or any clubhouse and walk on your
teammates during a season. What kind of coward does that? Yeah?
(01:30:24):
Great stuff and appreciate calling Tommy Kramer. I get frustrated
with this because well why would It's not my money.
But I'll tell you what, I'm not even frustrated. The
truth is, I don't care about the Sluka decision. Yeah,
business wise, I care about the right tackle who isn't
going to make a dime in nil and he's got
a guy that he's protecting his ass off every day
(01:30:47):
and getting one hundred and six yards passing out of it,
mind you, and then forty two percent completion and turning
around saying love you guys, but not really.
Speaker 5 (01:30:55):
Yeah, I'm out of here, right selfish man, What would
you say if a the Quinn youwrers did that two
which you wouldn't.
Speaker 8 (01:31:06):
What would you say.
Speaker 9 (01:31:09):
To this?
Speaker 8 (01:31:09):
Would you draft him? And as the first pick? Now
if he did that right now? Said I'm walking now.
Other people might say, well we got arch Banning, we'll
be okay, but quick If Quinn, I'm just using him
because he's top going to be a top five pick
more than likely in the draft. Right what if he
did that right now? Because he said, no, you know what,
I want five more million and he went in and said,
you saw Louisiana Monroe arch has got a lot of
a lot of room to grow. He's going to be
(01:31:31):
a good player. I want more money. And if they
said no, he walked, Yeah, that's exactly. So what's the difference, Yeah, boy,
because he's a star. And there you quit. You quit,
whether you're whether you now if you're the fifth guy
on the roster quarterback ross and you can't make you're
not you're not getting any run. They didn't give a
chance to compete. Dude, have at it. Yeah, and continue
(01:31:51):
to argue for your money while you're in the transfer portal.
Don't ever let a teammate down like that.
Speaker 9 (01:31:57):
No did?
Speaker 5 (01:31:59):
I think it's DNA And to me, wants a coward
always then go always a coward? Real quick, Roger, what's
going on?
Speaker 1 (01:32:07):
What's going on?
Speaker 15 (01:32:08):
Fellas?
Speaker 9 (01:32:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 22 (01:32:09):
I just wanted to say, if we're paying, we're painting
the Tigers correct on the first round.
Speaker 8 (01:32:13):
The bit of playoffs. No, don't know yet yet, not
yet I really I really don't.
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
I really don't want to face the Tigers.
Speaker 6 (01:32:20):
I really think we have more than a half of
a chat.
Speaker 15 (01:32:22):
If we lose that first game, well.
Speaker 5 (01:32:24):
It could be either it's either the Royals or the Tigers.
They're both tied in the wild card right now.
Speaker 22 (01:32:31):
Okay, I just man, I'd rather look at the Tigers
young and experienced team. I just think that a j
aj has has a way of common things down, common things, sounds,
and and uh you know this team just you know,
be the best version of them.
Speaker 8 (01:32:46):
So don't want to But you know what else, you
don't want what Detroit doesn't want as much as schools school.
They don't want Fromber to have one of his games either.
Because I can, I can make an easy argument if
both pitchers pitch lights out hitting lineup, do you like better?
Oh yeah, there, there, there you go on Sunday. That's
(01:33:07):
I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (01:33:08):
Yeah, No, I don't.
Speaker 22 (01:33:09):
I don't mind being down on one because I know
that we have a better chance of you know, taking
two right after that. I just don't like being down.
Hey guys, I'm I'm I'm on the way to a
little town called Leaky textas my Uh, my father in
law is my turn seventy eight years young, and uh

Speaker 6 (01:33:32):

to talk about that football that that you and we
got made six to my stomach.
Speaker 8 (01:33:42):
I can't believe, no doubt that this is.
Speaker 22 (01:33:44):
How, this is what's what has turned out to be
now and then and then you know what, one story
like this and then here comes another one because just
because you can't think they can just do whatever they
want to do, and I just think it's force crap.
Speaker 19 (01:33:56):
All right, guys, have a good one.

Speaker 19 (01:39:34):
Hey, I'm been listening for six eight years, first time
calling in that love the show.
Speaker 7 (01:39:39):
Welcome, Seth. We appreciate you listening.
Speaker 8 (01:39:41):
Man.
Speaker 7 (01:39:41):
Don't don't be uh a stranger on the phone lines. Buddy,
what you got on?
Speaker 12 (01:39:44):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (01:39:45):
I know, I see you want to talk about with
you an LV guy.
Speaker 19 (01:39:48):
Yeah, I'm listening to this Matt Sluca talk and uh,
I can't help but laugh.
Speaker 6 (01:39:54):
To myself listening thinking one.
Speaker 19 (01:39:56):
Hundred thousand dollars. I think he's gonna be real real
to regret it a lot when you realizes how how
little one hundred grand gets you these days. You know,
to make such a brady move on one hundred k,
you know I would it would take me a lot
more money than that to ditch my teammates and stuff
like that.
Speaker 8 (01:40:14):
I think that, and Seth think about this, after that
one hundred grand spent, guess what he has to pay
on that? Anil's not tax free, so on's he gonna
get sixty five? So there sixty five we're down to that.
So you're going to spend a lifetime. Now I understand money.
I don't know what his financial world is with his family,
but you think about what he's going to have to
(01:40:34):
live with sixty five thousand or so after taxes and
go a whole lifetime. Like when they have their alumni
get togethers. He can't show up, and if he did,
it'd be in with which he won't, but it'd be like,
you know what, he's got to live his whole life
knowing that, not unintentionally intentionally, he let his teammates down.
Can you imagine go for sixty five grand after taxes
(01:40:58):
or whatever it is, He's going to spend his whole
life thinking was it worth it? Yeah, you got a
new vehicle. Awesome, dude, Great, you went and bought a
car with it? Are you starting? You paid the down
teayment on your home? That's awesome, But you'll never be
able to replace character. You can't. Can't put a price
tag on it.
Speaker 19 (01:41:14):
Well, back to the generational talk, I think Biscuit or
whoever said, you know, it shows how out of touch
and you know they don't have a concept of real
life at that age. And you know, if they can
play college ball and make a bunch of money and
move on from that the NFL and great, but I
(01:41:37):
don't think that's gonna happen with him.
Speaker 8 (01:41:39):
A great seth Thanks man, great point. Appreciate the call
Brian for a million dollars? Would you leave? Would you
quit on a team? No? I know if it's hard
to pass up, it is, But like after a three
games twenty five years later, how would you feel you'd
have some money?
Speaker 9 (01:41:56):
Is it?
Speaker 8 (01:41:56):
Is it worth your character assassination?
Speaker 6 (01:42:00):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:42:00):
Man, I just I have a hard hard time believing
that myself, being a team guy, would as a quarterback,
three hole hitter, first basement, whatever you want to say.
I would have a hard time leaving my teammates, right,
And because I know what it's like to be in
a locker room and and you know, battle your ass
off with the guys.
Speaker 8 (01:42:16):
And I know when people say, well, Sean, you don't
know their financials issuaying that's why I don't. I don't
know if the family, if the sixty five thousand dollars
is going to get your family debt free and all that,
then why can't and you don't and you still don't
have it in your hands. Why can't you battle that
behind the scenes and still go play? You can you
get the best of both warts. Hell, maybe one hundred
turns into two hundred if you keep winning, right, I
just don't. There's got to be Roi, and ROI is
(01:42:37):
not on quit on your team in three days, and
you can't. The return on investment is far bigger with
good character and a good teammate than it is for
sixty thousand bucks after taxes.
Speaker 7 (01:42:47):
You can, you can, the money will get spent. The
character never does that.
Speaker 8 (01:42:51):
You do it right, noes were I don't even know why.
It just I just can't fathom waking up in the
morning saying, you know what, yeah, for sixty five grand
after Texas that I don't even have or a contract,
I'm gonna go quit on my teammates.
Speaker 5 (01:43:09):
Always there's always somebody, yeah there, oh, yeah, there is.
You know there is also somebody else that we're gonna
welcome in Talk Texans, probably Aaron Wilson.
Speaker 8 (01:43:21):

Salisbury show here on Sports Talk seven ninety Sean Salisbury,
Brian Lilimomanuel Elmore. As we do every single Friday, eight
thirty in the morning, we welcome in NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
Speaker 8 (01:45:06):
Yes, we do always a thirty on Friday k PRC
Channel two where you can catch Aaron Wilson will all
this great stuff on Twitter at Aaron Wilson and also
catch him here, go to blog check it out does
unbelievable across the NFL, and right here for the Houston Texans.
All right, Aaron, tell me why we should be concerned
(01:45:28):
about They're two and one, But should we be uncomfortable
with the start overall as a football team for the Texans, there.
Speaker 6 (01:45:36):
Are enough reasons to be concerned. The pass protection gives
you some pause. There are I would say proliference penalties
that is probably the most least troubling thing because it's
very fixable. But the running game is the non existent
other than the first game and the cold TYVI SIB
and vulner will against the run, and that was with
(01:45:58):
Joe Mixon pound of the football and then he gets hurt.
Injuries are a reason to have some you know, healthy
amount of chempicism about the depth because of you know,
they didn't run the ball well at all with cam Akers,
they kind of stopped running. They fell behind. But you know,
(01:46:19):
there are only a couple of ok runs with a
nine yard run but averagely got two yards and change
per carry against the Vikings, his old team. This was
a big deal to him. And then they can't get
any traction. You know, they can't get any community because
of the false starts and the legal formation penalties. Legal
(01:46:40):
formations really fixable. False starts, the concentration issue, that's not
the largest concern, but they are vulnerable against the pass
two deep throws. That's been a pattern that's don't have.
You know, Jimmy Ward's growing injury, he's if he's finished
leak now because of this latest injury. He's had growing
(01:47:04):
and hip injuries in the past, so that's something to
watch and have Tank Dell this week to your British groups.
So you've got a fair amount of things going on
and then no mixing and no Pierce, so it's the
same backfield as last week. And then after that. Oh,
(01:47:24):
I mean there's optimism too, but you ask for things
that are problems. Those are the problematic is in my list.
As far as you know where they're at. I think
they can rush the past very well. They can generally
stop the run. Didn't do it against Aaron Jones, but
I think overall it's going to be a good front
(01:47:45):
set and it's stopping people and creating conflict for quarterbacks.
But I don't know. I think upside is fine. I mean,
they still probably win this game, even I think they're
a bit were handed. I just don't think very highly
of the Jaguars. I don't think anybody really does at
(01:48:05):
this point. Not a franchise right now that people have
a lot of respect for Sherman Lawrence is declining. They
basically have ATM and that's about it. And they don't
have a ton of dudes. Got a few guys on defense, Yeah, bro,
I just don't think this is the game where if
(01:48:26):
you have an injured player, even you don't have to
necessarily you know, play them and you know rush them
out there because the Jaguars aren't that good.
Speaker 8 (01:48:38):
Aaron Wilson follow him on Twitter at Aaron Wilson KPRC
channel too well as well doing all his great work.
All right, I'm gonna get back to how long we
How long is mixing out for?
Speaker 9 (01:48:46):
Do we know?
Speaker 6 (01:48:49):
Until week to week? So when you've already missed two
like this week, now we're into the three four. So
I don't think it was an ir situation. Ever, It's
just might feel better next week. It might be a
chance for to get back out there from Buffalo, but
maybe not. I mean, the thing is, too we're getting
(01:49:10):
close to a time where you need a ramp up
week because you've been out that long. We practice for
a few days and then play football again.
Speaker 8 (01:49:19):
Aaron, with the you mentioned, and they're still two in one.
Then they beat a couple of teams that are not
very good right now, and this team this week is
a bad football team. You're one hundred percent correct, meaning Jacksonville.
So with that, let me get the tunsil stuff. They've
been in the league since twenty sixteen. He's the hell
of player wants the ball snapped, but well, well it's
(01:49:39):
not the biggest issue, but it's a big issue. I mean,
it's going to cost him a game and maybe already
has been part of it. This can't continue and the
accountability and goes with it. I don't want to hear
about crowd noise from any of that. And I love
the guy and the player, but when the pre snap pays,
this can't have. It's a lack of focus because at
some point you just got to go on movement and
(01:50:00):
it's putting his team in a bind. So how difficult
or how firm was Dimico's conversation with a veteran who
needs to be better when the other four guys aren't
moving at the line of scrimmage. How difficult was that
conversation or firm was that conversation between Dimico and Laramie Tunseel.
Speaker 6 (01:50:20):
I mean, I know he emphasized that I'm a privey
to like the exact words or anything like that, but
it's been emphasizing the team meetings and they've talked about
it in definitely really since the game happened. But he's
not the only one that they're talking to about. You know,
they have your an issue with the sinner where some
(01:50:43):
of the center's movement is causing some of it. It's
also causing juice scrugs to get the same penalty. And
then you have the illegal formations, which is they're saying
is a debate with where they're lined up. And the
thing is they should have known it because it's the
Hockeyley crew which called three of them in one series
(01:51:04):
in the first series of the season against the Ravens.
Obviously that's their tendency. The league office told them to
watch that, so they're all over it, and you can
there's analytics for all the rest as far as Laramie
and then the how you know firm you viewed him.
He's also one of your best football players, so you know,
(01:51:25):
you don't used to work with him in a constructive manner,
you know, hously serious and stress it. He gets that,
and you know, I think I'm not going to get
an interview with him after the game, and hasn't you know,
chatting with him informally this week, But you know, I
think some of this stuff with him has been over
(01:51:46):
the top as far as reaction with fans and some
of the press. But he's still the guy at black
Mouth Garrett and does a lot of good things. But yeah,
it's he could afford to be late to your point, Sean,
like you know, wait to the ball snaps and still
block his man because he's that talented, right, And so
it's he's always looked for an edge, always willing to jump.
(01:52:09):
It's not that he doesn't know the snapcam because some
people are like, well don't you know what snap You
know when it's when it's on that That's not the issue.
It's a more of a compulsion for him trying to
get the edge. And I don't know if you what
you do about that, but you just drill it, drill it,
drill it, talk to him about it. But it's you know,
(01:52:31):
he's a leading penalty guy in the NFL. Statistically, he's
been flagged ten times with nine accepted and they rank
third in the NFL penalties overall. It was twenty eight
accepted and two hundred and thirty three yards significant amunt
of yardage.
Speaker 8 (01:52:49):
We'll talk about there, all right, Aaron. With the secondary,
as you mentioned, giving up some big plays and Sam
Donald played a really good game last week and moving
forward to this one, and they're not nearly a capable
in Jacksonville. Capable a little bit, but not nearly with
the way they're playing. So with that giving up the
big plays in the secondary here, and you mentioned, you know,
injuries to the offense, will Bobby slowick and with your
(01:53:11):
on your third running back, third string running back, will
we see more attack, push the ball down the field
mode this week so they can get back into what
we have more explosive coverage.
Speaker 6 (01:53:22):
Yeah, so yes, I think you have a little bit
of the iffy situation with Nico Collins. I'm told that
Nico is going to try to play right. He's got
a hamstring and so he's in treatment around the clock
trying to get loose enough. See with limited then yesterday's
practice added to the edit report. So he has hamstring's
(01:53:42):
tight and they'll see can he get up and go
and get the separation that he only does. There's no
one really there secondary to be super concerned with. And Henrancisco.
I mean, there's a couple of good players, but they
just don't have a lot of guys and there's no
(01:54:03):
Galin Ramsy's flurking around there. It's just they play in demand.
They should be able to be man coverage. We've seen
that in the past with when he was out there
Tank Dale. Tank's got the bruise rooms and not expected
to play. We'll see you run out there for practice.
I don't think he will. I think he's out and
(01:54:23):
you know you can get done with other guys. So
you've got Stefan Diggs, You've got Dalton Salts. I gonna
have a little bit of more of Xavier Hutchinson, Robert Woods,
maybe John actually a third to be active this week.
But those are some things going on. But I think
you throw the ball in these guys. I don't see
why you wouldn't be able to. I think that Phidias
(01:54:44):
Drives are very precise, very good pastor good leader. I
think there's yards to be had. Maybe you're on the
ball as much. I don't know. It's not thinking without
making that the backfield that that's going to be like
at the forefront of their game plan. But I throw
the ball. The problem they've had with the other stuff
is too high and what you do to that is
(01:55:06):
you run the ball and you throw intermediately. But it
does cut off the deep pass and the statistically so
it's fourner. Your four to three yards is the average
combined passing yards per game overall for these games. So
passing is down around the league. It's historically low level
since nineteen ninety three the past. It's declined each year
(01:55:30):
the past four or five years. A lot of it
is it's too high.
Speaker 8 (01:55:34):
Yeah, And yet every real thing, yet, every every rule
in football is set up for the offense to be successful.
Speaker 9 (01:55:41):
It just is.
Speaker 8 (01:55:42):
And and you mentioned it. Two things you have to
do when you're playing two high safeties. You've got to
be able to run the ball. You can't let a
team play two high safeties prevent you from running it.
You just have to be That's just called attitude and
grown man stuff. Secondly, when you play too high, there
are plenty of You got to be a patient thrower
if they're going to play too high, and you've got
(01:56:04):
to throw a deep dig route or make sure you're
hitting the vendor behind the mic linebacker. You've got to
be efficient in the short the intermediate passing game, and
take patience will be your top thanks. So patients and
the ability to run the football. If you can't be
too high with your quarterback and your receivers being accurate
and moving the ball methodically down the field and run it.
Then you don't deserve to win. It's easy to beat
(01:56:25):
if you're a patient thrower. And we know this kid's
good enough to do it.
Speaker 6 (01:56:29):
He is, and it's just a matter of that he's
got to call the right place. CG. City is the
most confidence in Bobby Slowick, and he says, you know,
he's all got to buy in. So I guess that
implies that the buy in you know that that's something
they're talking about. So let's see how it is this week.
I know, been talking to Bobby yesterday, the offense coordinator.
(01:56:51):
It was interesting to hear a lot of his comments.
He was pretty steadfast, just like Nico Ryans, with no
excuses for the penalty, and he also acknowledged that they
got unblocked guys running free and it's not the way
it's drawn up. He said also that I think there
was five times he could count where everybody meeting, every
(01:57:12):
single player was playing their assignment. So that sounds like
a coaching issue and a coachability issue for these guys.
So they have some things to fix over there. And
for offense, that was hyped up. I meaner, we were
talking about three thousand yard receivers things like that. They
are not looking up those expectations so far.
Speaker 8 (01:57:32):
No doubt. Great stuff, man, This would be nice to
play a complete game. Gotta hammer Jacksonville. They're not very
good and we'll look forward to next Friday. Go do
your thing as always, my man. You appreciate you. Thanks Aaron.
Great Aaron Wilson, and come back and discuss five plays
where everybody was on the same page and what sixty
plus plays that you can't do. Sports Talk seven to
(01:57:56):
nine will discuss next.
Speaker 4 (01:58:00):
Mask wear, gloves, wear, leather and chains. Reminds me of
that time I accidentally walked into an S and M convention. Hey, nice,
my back still hurts. Would be good speaking of back pain.
Back to former QB Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven
ninety get medieval on him, Shun.
Speaker 5 (01:58:39):
Just wrapped up with NFL insider Aaron Wilson. Missus is
gonna be on our blog after the show at sports
seven ninety dot com. Let's come back out to the
phone line seven one three two one two five seven
ninety Anthony, thanks for holding man.
Speaker 7 (01:58:50):
What's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (01:58:51):
Hey, what's up? Guys.
Speaker 9 (01:58:52):
So I want to talk about the Astros, but first
I want to say I hope nlv's backup quarterback comes
out throwing heymaker this weekend against.
Speaker 8 (01:59:00):
Fresno State Amen.
Speaker 9 (01:59:03):
But so, I was my AO West Champs shirt came
in yesterday and I was putting it on this morning
and it had me kind of reflecting on the season.
And I know that the Astros have been through a
lot of ups and downs this season. But like in
my opinion, Joe A. Spottas should be a candidate for
(01:59:24):
Manager of the Year. I mean, if you look back
on the season we had, we were twelve and twenty
four at one point, Ronel Blanco, Taylor Scott, absolute studs,
an MVP candidate who is out for majority of the season,
Alex Bregman dealing with an elbow issue. Down the stretch,
you know John Singleton playing almost Gold Glove level defense
(01:59:47):
at first base and stepping up and filling the void
for the team. And I got bad news, man. If
jor Don Alvarez is going to be healthy and Kyle
Tucker's going to keep hitting like he's hitting, the rest
of the league's in trouble, man, this could be another
run for the Astros.
Speaker 7 (02:00:03):
Yeah, I think so, Anthony. We appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (02:00:05):
Kyle Tucker's gonna have to If you don't have a
RD on, Kyle Tucker's going to have to figure it out.
He's gonna have to carry this offense. Singy okay, well, singing, singing, Robert,
thanks for all.
Speaker 7 (02:00:16):
Good morning.
Speaker 8 (02:00:17):
If not have a team meeting, you love team meeting.
I just had a couple of questions.
Speaker 23 (02:00:21):
One, has anybody ever noticed that Jake Myers fields left
handed and bat's right handed?
Speaker 1 (02:00:27):
You know, I don't know if anybody's ever noticed that.
Speaker 8 (02:00:30):
Uh we have yep, yep, a lot of people on
a daily basis when he plays.
Speaker 23 (02:00:35):
Uh huh, yeah, I don't know if that would affect
his batting or you know what, is he naturally a
left or a right handed guy?
Speaker 8 (02:00:41):
You know, I would imagine they stuck a bat in
his hands. He stood on on the right side of
the plate and then hit it well and said almost
stay there. And a lot of people do both, so
you know, throw one side and hit another. But yeah,
I hear you.
Speaker 23 (02:00:55):
That's how Michelson started being a lefty and golf he's
a right handed player.
Speaker 1 (02:00:59):
There you go. Ahead more comment about you know, everybody's
talking about quitting on your team.
Speaker 23 (02:01:04):
This might bring up some old but remember when Carlos
Korea was won three hundred million for ten years and
they offered him one hundred and fifty for five and
he quit on the team. In my opinion, anybody else
agree with that. I mean, yeah, pros go for money,
but to me, I mean one hundred and fifty million
for five years.
Speaker 8 (02:01:23):
Come on, man. But the big differences and the market
value of it, Robert real quick, the market value of
baseball is not real world and basketball for you know that,
it's not real world. It's fantasy land. But it allows
them to go get generational wealth times ten. But the
difference is one was one is on scholarship and basically
under contract, although it's not. If you start making these
(02:01:45):
players sign contracts, get the legal part of it involved
with nil and all that, you'll stay, it'll be a
whole different ball game. But there is that. And Carlos
Cray was a free agent, so he was going for
you know, fam and the rest of it. So it's hard. Yeah,
it's a lot of money, but I don't call that
quitting on your teammates. When you're a free agent trying
to get the best deal. Now, if if you're that
(02:02:07):
kid from Holy Cross in Las Vegas who quit on
his team, if you were in it, like right now
when he goes into transfer portal, Now go choose what's
best for you and get the most money. Don't have
problem with that if that's what you're doing. But quitting
on your team. Big difference between Correy and this guy
because one was as the season started. Now, if Korea
would have walked in the last year, sixty games in
and said, you know what, I'm gonna save myself for
(02:02:29):
free agency and walk, then the comparison kicks in, not
after the season during free agency.
Speaker 7 (02:02:33):
Thank you for the call, Robert. Let's get to Gill
real quick.
Speaker 8 (02:02:35):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (02:02:36):
Gil?
Speaker 7 (02:02:36):
Got about forty five seconds for you.
Speaker 10 (02:02:38):
Hey, I'm gonna ask a question and I to listen
to you.
Speaker 15 (02:02:41):
Sean, How does this.
Speaker 10 (02:02:43):
Hall of Fame work when they get old? Because I
saw something.
Speaker 18 (02:02:47):
Online saying that they're going to have a Hall of
Fame for.
Speaker 4 (02:02:49):
The older guys if.
Speaker 18 (02:02:51):
They get a shot to get in, if they were
passed up after whatever five.
Speaker 8 (02:02:54):
Years that exists, that well, what I do know, Ben Nless,
I have missed something like the committee, the Players Committee,
where you can get in after there. There are those
and happens in the NFL. I think they have it
in baseball too, okay, where there's a once your times passed.
But I don't unless there's something new that I missed
over the last the last week.
Speaker 18 (02:03:15):
That yeah, because a friend of mine sent me a
link because of our buddy Henry, and he said he
was on that list that he could get picked for
the Hall of Fame and he's been retired since like
ninety eight.
Speaker 8 (02:03:26):
Oh yeah, I mean a certain there's a certain list
you go. I mean a certain length of time that
kicks in, and then there's what they call it the
Veterans Committee. Is that what it is, veterans committee that
gets in. Yeah. I don't think there's a new rule
that says, hey man, obviously you can't put him in
before five years. But there is a Veterans Committee that
allows guys who've been bypassed to still have an opportunity
(02:03:50):
and then when that eventually the time runs out on
most all of it. But there's guys who've been have
been out of football for years that are Hall of famers.
I wish we change the rule like a junior seal
a Kenny Stabler, then when they when they get in,
that they wouldn't have to wait five years to be
voted in. I because, especially if somebody's got like, there
(02:04:10):
should be an asterisk or a memo or should I
say in adendum to a contract of the Hall of
Fame Rules Committee, if you've got a guy who's sick
and going through it and aging, he should be alive.
She should be able to be alive, to be we
should have heard Junior say I talk at the Hall
of Fame. Yea. Now he wasn't obviously his suicide Gill.
(02:04:31):
But like with Kenny Stabler, when they're health wanes, you
never know. I don't. I don't understand why we have
to wait. Sometimes there's got to be Sometimes rules are
made to be broken. Laws aren't this rule that's made there?
I want to hear. I don't know why we should
have to wait for a year after year. If if
he gets voted in while he's alive, why make him
(02:04:53):
wait five the risk factor and the older they get.
I don't think we'd have a problem with that, do you?
Speaker 9 (02:04:57):
I do not.
Speaker 8 (02:04:58):
I don't think anybody would Junior sail was to get
in the Hall of Fame anyway. But the problem is
nobody knew it was a suicide situation that they had
to address before that. That's that's the outlier, because you
thought you had a lot of time with Junior. He
was young and healthy and well physically get right and
a phenomenal human being. I would have loved to hear
a speech. But and sometimes you can't control somebody you
(02:05:20):
know passes away. But when you know their health is
waning and it was a they've been made the Veterans
Committee or what have you, shouldn't we make an.
Speaker 5 (02:05:28):
Exception you can expedite that process. There is absolutely no
question about about it.
Speaker 8 (02:05:32):
Nobody. Would you have liked to hear Kenny Stabler's speech?
Speaker 5 (02:05:35):
Hell yeah, I would have loved to hear Junior say
I'll speak please. Yeah, especially the guys that are obvious
they were gonna So why why is he evenn't I
don't understand that.
Speaker 8 (02:05:46):
Irrect and if it has to be means putting nine
people in that year.
Speaker 5 (02:05:50):
But that's exactly right. I mean, the Hall of Famer
is a Hall of Famer. That's there's going to be
a bust in there.
Speaker 8 (02:05:55):
Let us hear from the guys, especially if there's like,
for instance, Tony Sets in the Hall of Fame. Tony's
going through some serious issues right now. Or let's say
it was uh Brett Farv with his most recent situation.
He's in the Hall of Fame. But let's just say
he hadn't been what we know he's going to be,
but his health was waning. Yeah, and it was two
years into it. You know, he's going the Hall of Fame.
(02:06:16):
Shouldn't we just vote him in?
Speaker 6 (02:06:17):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (02:06:17):
And let it in here the minute we can speak Bingo, Yeah,
I'm with you. Let's get into the nine o'clock hour.
What are the keys for the Houston Texans against the Jags.
Speaker 4 (02:06:24):
That's next KD Houston, k TV HD two Houston, my
heart radio station.

Cowboys beat the Giants last night and Thursday night football
Georgia and Alabama, big big time matchup in the sec.
Seven one, three, two, two five, seven ninety is the
number to join. We're gonna talk Texans and some Keys
to a victory for Houston. Before we do that, let's
get out to the phone lines. John, thank you for holding.
(02:07:30):
Good morning.
Speaker 15 (02:07:31):
Hey man, you guys have a good weekend.
Speaker 5 (02:07:33):
First of all, appreciate that John, you as well, enjoyed
the enjoy the time off.
Speaker 15 (02:07:39):
Okay, thanks, Hey, look man, this is you know, this
is what I wanted to say. Uh, you know I
would like to see the Jmico Ryans and you know,
bring British Brooks up here and you know, give me
give him a li ale taste. Let's see what he got.
You know, they they couldn't run the ball with cam
Ma because you know, uh cam Ma, because yeah, he
while you will have one or two runs here and there,
(02:08:01):
but most of the time, you know, he'll get he'll
get jammed back down in the backfield. I watched him
with the Rams. You know he's not a power runner.
He's a He's an open space runner.
Speaker 6 (02:08:11):
And that's fine.
Speaker 15 (02:08:13):
He might you know, he might uh get by a
tackle also. But you know, British Brooks had some good
numbers in college man before he got that knee injury,
and then after he came back from that knee injury.
I'm not sure. I think it was the Hawaii bow
that British Brooks played in and that's probably one reason
walk he didn't get drafted. But he had some good numbers, man.
(02:08:34):
And when we saw him in preseason right along with
Cam Akers, you know, he was breaking tackles and stuff
like that. It wouldn't hurt because if they can't get
the running game going, what's gonna hurt to bring this
kid up here and let's see what he got. I mean,
Harry and Boston brought him up here, and god, he
was sad he got I'm not saying this guy is
this guy, but you know, it wouldn't hurt, man. And
(02:08:56):
he looked at pretty good in preseason. You guys, did
you guys watch him in precly.
Speaker 7 (02:09:00):
Yeah, British Brooks.
Speaker 8 (02:09:01):
Yeah, he was. He ran the football well, man, like
his style, like his game.
Speaker 15 (02:09:06):
Yeah, he got power.
Speaker 4 (02:09:07):
Man, He's very You never know, man, you just never know.
Speaker 15 (02:09:10):
Man, Hey, look yall, I have a good one.
Speaker 8 (02:09:12):
Okay, bro, appreciate it, buddy, Thanks.
Speaker 5 (02:09:14):
Yeah, we're gonna see if Jonathan or not. Jonathan Brooks
British Brooks, Jonathan Brooks used to play for the Texans.
British Brooks can get some run. Joe Mixon obviously most
likely gonna be out again. Camerker is probably gonna run
the football.
Speaker 8 (02:09:26):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:09:27):
Damian Pierce looks like he could be back from injury.
The Texans right now, Sean as it stands six point
favorites home game.
Speaker 6 (02:09:37):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:09:37):
For the Texans offensively, let's just talk offense offensively.
Speaker 10 (02:09:42):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:09:42):
We know the pre snat penalties. That's got to get
figured out. They need a better pass protect protection. What
are some keys against this Jaguars team who is honestly
not very good.
Speaker 8 (02:09:54):
Well, first and foremost, play without penalties control. That'd be
a nice start. Two is make sure that you're not
creating Now you're not going to get the same cree
confusion created. Brian Flores is doing that as well as anybody.
Excuse me, and you know what Brian Flores has done.
(02:10:15):
It's like every waking hour of his preparation is to
stop the Kyle Shanahan type offense. He did it against
San Francisco. He's got to do it against Green Bay.
That Lafleura McVeigh is Shanahan slowik. He did it against
the Texans. Guy thrives. Whether it's personnel groupings, formational stuff, tendencies,
he's got it whipped. So first and foremost, get lined
(02:10:37):
up and get off the ball on time, the right time.
That'll help. Then go to work and what do you say,
and just cook? Yes, let him cook. You have to
protect the passer. They have not. They have been very
average at that in my opinion. This year when the
ball stamped, there's been too much chaos in the backfield.
Does that make sense? There's one two is you cannot
(02:10:58):
continue to give up big plays. I don't want to
have play two high safeties the whole time and then
have teams gash you with two hundred yards rushing, which
is much easier to do. So you have to prevent
the big broken play and the big home run that's
getting that. It's been too easy, even though you get
have to pass, it's been too easy for opposing teams
to push the ball down the field. And then lastly,
(02:11:20):
I don't know how they're going to muster it up somehow,
some way. You can't be one dimensional offensively, and they are.
And I'll tell you, I don't know what defense are
going to I mean, how often they're going to pressure
Trevor Lawrence. But I would do everything I could to
pressure him because I don't think they're good enough to
beat pressure regularly. They're just a football team that's floundering.
(02:11:43):
So i'd love a clean pocket. I'd love to, but
I don't know how much. How much can I ask
for in the run game the way that they've run
it without Joe Mixon, maybe not very much. So that
leads this. This is going to have to be a patient,
methodical at times to you and me, looks boring offense
this week. You're gonna have to take shots. Don't be misled.
(02:12:05):
You can take shots on too deep. They're just different shots.
And what I mean by explosive plays. And nobody throws
the deep incut in this league or better than the
quarterback we have here. He throws it as good as anybody.
And Cover two begs you to throw that route with
a couple with combinations. Got to be patient, patients, protect
your passer, and I would hit Trevor Lawrence fifty times
(02:12:28):
in this game if I could make them beat what
you love to do on defense, not the opposite. And
because what happens if you don't pressure the quarterback and
you give somebody who's struggling, you know the best way
to get right, get yourself a few completions in before
because he is capable of going thirty to thirty nine.
Now I don't know him. This year's team, if he
(02:12:48):
is Jacksonville, to me, looks like a looks like like
a bottom third or worst team right now. I know
the record says it, but there's nothing that tells me anything.
How are they coming out of this unless the Texans
get twelve penalties and turn the ball over and give
up a few broken big plays. Otherwise, I don't know
how you get beat by this team. We'll see starts
(02:13:11):
with pass protection and starts with penalties. If the offense
plays a good football game. The defense just has to
play a decent football game. That's not good for them
to hear, but you'll win this game. Let's talk about
that defense for the Texans. What are some keys for
them to stop? Say, stop Trevor Lawrence. He has not
played very good football. But we know with Jacksonville they
(02:13:35):
go up and down with their offense. So how do
they stop that offense for Jacksonville.
Speaker 5 (02:13:39):
We'll discuss that next right around Sports Talks seven Ninetykobe

The Jean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 5 (02:15:23):
If you listening to The Sean Salisbury Show, you're on
Sports Talk seven ninety Sean Brown and Tripolei Astros open
up a serious to night in Cleveland against the Guardians
six ten. The first pitch five o'clock on Deck show
right here on seven out of your home for Astros Baseball,
Texans and Jags on Sunday at Energy Stadium. Cowboys be
the Giants at Thursday night football. University of Georgia taking
on Alabama Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Big SEC matchup, Jaguars
(02:15:48):
coming to town.
Speaker 7 (02:15:49):
Shawn.
Speaker 5 (02:15:49):
Let's look at this offense for the Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence
in three games, his completion percentage is fifty two point eight.
He is averaging throwing the football one hundred and eighty
six yards a game. He's got two touchdowns, one interception.
He's been sacked eleven times. On the ground, Travis etn
the running back thirty six carries one hundred and sixty
(02:16:11):
four yards. That's four point six yards a carry, two touchdowns.
They are averaging let's see as a team on the
ground one one hundred and fifteen yards rushing. These numbers offensively,
they're just not good.
Speaker 8 (02:16:30):
I would don't normally say this. If there's a good
back and etm is a good player, make them one
dimensional and you can make a team one dimensional. Did
you think when he signed a contract this offseason that
we'd be saying, make Trevor Lawrence just beat you take
away the run and have it. See if he's table
of doing it, and they're passing games capable of doing it.
(02:16:50):
That's what I do. That's exactly what I do. And
if he's good enough to beat you, man away pressure,
run blitz pressure, because if he rushes for one hundred
and sixteen yards in the game, they'll be in it.
Take away the run, and what you cannot do is
(02:17:10):
miss on if your pressure and get after and miss
on the blitz and let Trevor Lawrence broken play because
some of the big plays have come against their secondary
on opportunities like that, and they missed a couple. Anthony
Richardson missed two more that could have happened in the
first game. I would I dare say that Trevor Lawrence
is going to have to beat me in this game,
not ETN, because Trevor Lawrence's job will get a lot
(02:17:31):
easier if Etn's having one of those days. Take him
out of the game. I don't mean hurt him. I'm
talking about take it. If they want to run it
twenty five times, you make sure that while they're doing
what we do on first two yards to carry right
two yards of play, limit him forced long yard it
six went on first down and make Trevor Lawrence beach
you and I don't see how with the way that
their passing game is right, it is subpar at best.
(02:17:56):
It's a They are as disappointing as anybody in the league.
Their whole offense subpar at best, and Cincinnati's going through.
We give the excuse while Cincinnati starts slow, so we'll
get in Joe Burrow starts slow, but we think they're
gonna come out of it. But they've been disappointing too.
They're own three now they're there. They are a couple
a player two or three away from being three. No,
but they're a player two and away from being own
(02:18:17):
three and they're own three. So three or four plays
do make a difference. And that's where Cincinnati is. Jacksonville.
Jacksonville's team bores me. Yeah, not much exciting with that.
They're really they're really, I can this feels like twenty
four thirteen. Well, it's a win, but just feels like
a one of those games, like okay, that feels like
(02:18:40):
it puts you out of there, your team and your
rooting for him feels like it puts you to sleep.
I see zero explosiveness. If you take et In out
of it, I don't know what this team's going to do.
Make the quarterback beat you this week? And I don't
normally say that. If it's a good player, he's a
talented player. He's not playing very good quarterback right now.
I want them to just whoop their as. I think
Trevor Lawrence has gotten worse, worse.
Speaker 9 (02:19:02):
I do.
Speaker 8 (02:19:03):
I think he's regressed. Yeah, I'd like to. It'd be
great if it was forty one to ten. Yes, capable
of it. But it just you do not let an
average team and below average team they're below average hang
around because you don't want it to come down to
a fifty yard field goal and then see you just
don't want it to be that way. They have got
(02:19:23):
to impose their the physical stuff that I saw in
Game one. They got to do the same thing here.
Speaker 5 (02:19:29):
Yeah, offensively, what's uh game planning and play calling for
Bobby Slock. We haven't I mean we've talked about we
haven't really seen the offense click on all cylinders?
Speaker 7 (02:19:39):
What does that look like? Forslog this weekend and.
Speaker 8 (02:19:42):
Talking Aaron Wilson to but in studying this, if I'm
the defensive coordinator in Jacksonville, just looking at what they do,
meaning the Texans, what's the number one thing you'd say, Now,
let's flip the switch. How do you think that you're
gonna you're going to force Houston to beat you with
their deal with Jacksonville's defense. You're the coordinator and you're
going into this game. What's your number one plan? Put
(02:20:04):
pressure on CJ strout Right. The running game doesn't appear
right now that it can beat you. So if you
go in and you decide to play two high safeties,
which may very because when you play single high, give
them the outside lanes, throwing the football on the seams
or whether man free and or pressure blitz with man
(02:20:26):
coverage all the way around, you're you're you're begging for
to give up big plays and hoping that you get
to the quarterback first. Right, Yes, and if you can
set your feet and get the ball out and they're
going to play man, a lot of big plays can happen.
If I'm the defensive coordinator. After watching three weeks of
tape on the on the Texans and now the two
weeks minus Joe Mixon, you're looking at him saying, okay,
(02:20:49):
we know the quarterbacks capable of throwing for four hundred
if if you don't hit him, but if you blitz him,
you're you're risking giving up that slant on a blitz
home run. I would I would play them. Trust my
front seven with all the penalties that they've had and
they're struggling offensive line in pass protection, I'd say my
front seven can pressure you down four down four at
(02:21:12):
a fifth guy in the pass rush and make cam
akers in the run game beata. I'm not letting c J.
Stroud set his feet, but if I do let him
set his feet, guess what I'm also doing playing two
ice safeties to have help over the top so I
don't give up the big play. I would force the
Houston Texans to go eighty yards, seventy five yard, seventy
yards ten, play drive four or five times. I can't
(02:21:34):
give him up a backbreaker. And if if CJ. Stroud
and Bobby Slowak are patient enough, patient enough to have
to nickel and dime the pass game four here, six there,
twelve here, fifteen here, three here, screen it here and
just methodically go through that and be patient, they'll be fine.
But if I'm the defensive coordinator Jacksonville. I'm not playing
(02:21:55):
into your hands because I know that he knows that
you're gonna that they're gonna try to be more aggressive.
If you come out and play single high safety, c J.
Stroud will destroy you on the edges. If you come
out and play too high and take away the home
run play at least pre snap, you're supposed to be
able to cam akers in that offensive line is gonna
have to prove that they can beat my front seven.
I'm not giving up big plays of CJ. Stroud. I'm
(02:22:18):
gonna make him be patient and let you run the ball.
And there's very few defensive coordinators on the planet that'll say,
if you can beat our front seven right, most of
them want to stop the run first. The Texans, outside
of Joe Mixon and not shown one ounce of ability
to be able to beat you running the football. And
the one dimension you don't want is cee J. Stroud
getting in rhythm. Patients you're gonna have is this is
(02:22:42):
not for there. If you're tired and you're watching this game,
and you've taken a and you decide took a couple
of shots before the game about the middle of the
second quarter. You could be bored out of your mind
with the methodical play that you're gonna have to see.
But within that you still have to take some shots.
If you're the Texans to put a little fear in him,
i'd make cam Akers beat me. I ain't letting c J.
(02:23:03):
Stroud to make them be patient. You're not supposed to
be That's what i'd expect. You're not supposed to play
two high safeties though, well, according to some they want
to remove from the game. Yeah, well, guess what you're
supposed to do if you pay two high safeties, learn
how to be a patient quarterback and the guy here
is some wouldn't be, but can't. I don't think that
the Texans can go in this game and rush for
(02:23:24):
a bucks seventy five and beat Jacksonville that way. I
just I haven't seen it with that. Now with mixing,
you know what, their first priority be got to stop
that guy, right, and that becomes a problem. That's exactly what.
There's a few dimensions that are weak on both teams
so far this early in the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars
just have more weaknesses.
Speaker 5 (02:23:43):
Yeah, I think with the offense, I just want to
see more consistency. Last week it was what forty five
attempts for CJ. Stroud cam Akers nine rushes?
Speaker 8 (02:23:56):
That's it. And if they if they play two high
safeties and zone you to death, then and you have
to throw it forty times? Do you A lot of
those are gonna have to be short to intermediate completions.
But there are there are windows and holes in too
deep there just are. I can tell you this normally,
if I want to flip the teams I've been on
(02:24:16):
in my past, if you can't run the ball versus
two high safeties, you really put us offensively in a bind.
That's a pride thing. Yeah, with the front, with the
offensive line and dealing with the front.
Speaker 5 (02:24:28):
Seven Yeah, hopefully that offensive line can figured it out,
uh and not have pre snap penals.
Speaker 8 (02:24:33):
You don't need a lot of runs, brother, You just
need to execute the four or five that you have
pretty damn good. Gotta be a line of scrimmage moved
in their side of the ball, not on ours. Too
much pressure on one quarterback to have to make every play.
Seven five seven ninety Lewis Robert Tony. We will get

Speaker 5 (02:28:02):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, we're gonna we got we

Speaker 8 (02:28:07):
Come on.
Speaker 7 (02:28:08):
No, we didn't do it last week and the lost
fire that bad boy up.
Speaker 5 (02:28:12):
See what we got. I don't even know what it's going. Yeah,
I don't even know. Yeah, forget that ad. Yeah, here

Speaker 8 (02:28:19):
Let's see.
Speaker 7 (02:28:19):
I'll tell you if this is it?
Speaker 15 (02:28:26):
This is it?
Speaker 6 (02:28:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (02:28:33):
Yeah, oh yeah, there it is. Remember the one song
about two weeks ago at about eighteen times you would oh.
Speaker 7 (02:28:45):
Tripley and I are about falling out.
Speaker 6 (02:28:50):
You know what?
Speaker 8 (02:28:50):
I got a great idea for the Soul Russ State University.
Yeah this is a live version too. Yeah, hell yeah,
it's like Led Zeppelin. I think that you need to
get into the transfer portal. Uh, contribute some of your
n I L money, some of your salary to the
n I L at Soul Ra State and go get
(02:29:10):
that Sluko guy or what's his name again? Sluka Sluka?
Anybody see Bobby Sluka. What's his first name again? Matthew?
Anybody feedw shut matth dude, Sluka. Anybody see, Richie, we
got to get a better versus trip.
Speaker 4 (02:29:28):
Anybody a better version.
Speaker 7 (02:29:33):
I'm just glad I found the verb. We'll get it, though,
We'll get it. Don't you worry. Don't you go dip
into the portal and go get Sluka for what?
Speaker 6 (02:29:41):
For?
Speaker 8 (02:29:41):
Soul ross? No great teammate averaging a buck six a
game throwing it you guys, give him, you know what,
Invite him in. Tell him you got an apple in
a roadmap for him. Yeah, man, that's it.
Speaker 5 (02:29:52):
I'll get you a couple of Lobo bucksh I got
the diner you're telling me?
Speaker 8 (02:29:55):
Tell him free beer for him for a week. Lunches
at the at the at the Alpine bar, and grill
the crystal. The crystal there you the crystal. Yeah, the
crystal crystal. I'll get you a couple of beers. It's
a crystal pistol to dip in with it. Why not, dude,
dip into the portal. Dog.
Speaker 7 (02:30:10):
I'll even take you to Rihatta.
Speaker 8 (02:30:11):
Can I get you to donate some of the to
the collective?
Speaker 7 (02:30:15):
No, what, dude? The way my bank accounts excuse me, you.
Speaker 8 (02:30:18):
Know but think about the pride. You'll take it in
this economy. The guy who ran away, think about the
pride you'll have it. A guy ran away from his teammates,
and you contribute him to come to another school so
he can run away from you. You see, Dave Portnoy, Yes,
the Michigan's offered three million dollars a year in nil
money to go get a top flight big time quarterback.
Speaker 5 (02:30:38):
Saw that's living at large dog. He sold his company
and then bought it back.
Speaker 8 (02:30:45):
You think you think he wants Michigan to be good?
And I like, I like how greedya? We want to ask?
I want to know another one? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (02:30:54):
Three mil?
Speaker 8 (02:30:56):
Hey hate if you got it?
Speaker 5 (02:30:57):
I guess Man's doctor Lewis, He's been holding on for
a long time. Lewis appreciate you hold men.
Speaker 8 (02:31:01):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (02:31:03):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (02:31:03):
Guys?
Speaker 12 (02:31:03):
All you do? My questions on the astros uh?
Speaker 10 (02:31:07):
The the wolfpen still.
Speaker 12 (02:31:10):
On the back part of the bullpen, back in the way,
pressley with pressley and sometimes a broil a hater too?
Speaker 15 (02:31:19):
Did you seek that efecially walkcard?
Speaker 6 (02:31:22):
Well?
Speaker 12 (02:31:22):
We have excessive pictures?
Speaker 1 (02:31:24):
Should we?
Speaker 12 (02:31:25):
For example, if if Baldez goes five eatings or six seams.
Should we use go the same way, a Braille Pressley
hater or should we bring Arrighetti and or or Blanco
on this let him finish the game.
Speaker 8 (02:31:38):
That's that's my question, all right, So now I hung
up on listen thanks to repeat now again?
Speaker 5 (02:31:43):
All right, So basically he was asking for relief appearances.
Should they go to a bray You Pressley hater or
is there a chance they could use Araghetty and Blanco
to finish the game.
Speaker 8 (02:31:54):
A braill You Pressley hater in their normal role, Arraghetty,
Blanco even if it was Verlander somewhere in middle relief
or long relief if some of the If one of
the starter struggles and gets hammered early inning, I'm not disrupting.
First of all, Presley doesn't need another disruption in the
(02:32:15):
eighth inning. The confidence Look again, he's a postse he's
really good in the postseason. Hater, you're not gonna close
out a game.
Speaker 1 (02:32:22):
Now.
Speaker 8 (02:32:22):
Put it this way. If Hater's gone two in a
row and you think erragedy can go in and CLI define,
but you're going to try to keep that back end normal, right,
you would see between the first and the sixth inning,
would be my guess of one of those guys or
more than one of them. I don't think seven, eight
or nine you're sliding Spencer Arraghedty into the eighth hole
(02:32:47):
to replace Presley if you're up two to one in
the eighth inning. No, I don't think that's gonna happen. Nope.
Speaker 5 (02:32:53):
You know what Ryan Presley stats are in the postseason,
really good, Forty four and two thirds innings pitched, fifty
eight strike outs, an e r A of two point two.
Speaker 8 (02:33:02):
And they're and this team, as you know, back of
the Baseball Card stuff that they talk about, they're not
taking him out of the eighth inning role. Nope. Now,
if they if let's say in in the divisional series
they're up to you've you've used Hater and a Bray,
you and I Pressley in both of the first two
after they get out of the wildcard round. Let's just
say for fun, and you use those guys back to
(02:33:23):
back games, and then you're in game three and it's
a safe situation and you've used and and let's say
Nerris has got some run, then you may see Spencer
Aragedtty in the eighth and ninth inning. You may you
may see him in both or Blanco, there no question
about it. And I would think that Spencer aragedy would
be he's you know, I almost feel like JP France.
(02:33:43):
Well he's more overpowering in the France that he can
I think he can do both comfortably. Does that make
sense in rhythm? So yeah, in that situation fine, But
in a situation where they're not used up, your seven,
eight and nine are staying par for the course, you're
riding with what brung you brother in that right And
I don't blame him, Yeah, no question, man, you're not
(02:34:04):
disrupting that. Tony.
Speaker 7 (02:34:05):
What's happening?
Speaker 6 (02:34:07):
Oh?
Speaker 14 (02:34:07):
I want to agree with that the previous caller man
about the bullpen, I've been saying it for a while now.
This going with Presley in the eighth inning, like this
is what we're gonna do it. Joe Spotted was on
the staff, he was the bench coach R. A. J.
Hinch in twenty nineteen, and he saw, he knew that
(02:34:29):
that Cole was down to the bullpen with his spikes
on and ready to go the whole game.
Speaker 1 (02:34:35):
And he's pitching for a really good team right now.
Speaker 14 (02:34:37):
But he may never have a chance to win a
World Series again made You know, the Yankees are good
right now, but you.
Speaker 8 (02:34:43):
Know, there's no guarantee in sports.
Speaker 1 (02:34:44):
I think he's gonna manage this bullpen. He's gonna do it.
Speaker 8 (02:34:48):
Hopefully, he's gonna do what he needs to do.
Speaker 14 (02:34:50):
But let's talk about let's talk about the money. The
Astros are gonna free up the according to my math,
about one hundred and seven million dollars in the off season,
and I think they can do a lot. They can
fix a lot of holes in the off season with
that money. I would love to have Alex Bregman back.
I would I would love to have him back. I
(02:35:11):
know al Tuba is gonna, you know, politic for him,
but I don't see it happening.
Speaker 9 (02:35:16):
Man.
Speaker 14 (02:35:17):
Uh, this little surge late in the season and hitting
home runs, especially if he has a good postseason.
Speaker 1 (02:35:22):
He's got on y'all.
Speaker 8 (02:35:23):
But you know, we can we can fix a lot
of we can fix fill a lot of holes.
Speaker 14 (02:35:27):
There's a lot of money coming off the cap and
we just continue to put There's some pitching down at
Triple A. The Sugarland Space Cowboys swept through the Pacific
Coast League Championship.
Speaker 1 (02:35:39):
They're playing Saturday night against I don't know, don't It
doesn't really matter.
Speaker 14 (02:35:46):
They're playing Saturday night in Las Vegas for for they
call it the National Championship Game, triple a national championship game.
But we were supposed to have the worst part system
in baseball. It's it's all about pitching.
Speaker 1 (02:35:57):
Brothers. You'all have a great weekend, appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (02:35:59):

Is that true?
Speaker 5 (02:38:08):
Yes, we didn't play last week we played it. No,
we didn't know we played, go go astros. We did
not play Football Time in Houston and they lost.
Speaker 8 (02:38:16):
Well, go ahead and test your theory.
Speaker 5 (02:38:17):
You want Tripley fired up? Baby, That's all I needed
to hear. It's all my executive decision. There we go,
get it fired up. Get clay Walker up?
Speaker 8 (02:38:26):
We up on clay Walker? Are we down? Clay Walker's

Speaker 7 (02:38:35):

that intro? Are you kidding me? Here we go?
Speaker 5 (02:38:48):
I mean just a guitar riff to start it off.
If that didn't get you bricked up. I don't know
what will on a Friday morning.
Speaker 8 (02:38:53):
Yeah, but you take care of the two other weeks
that they haven't played explosive football.
Speaker 5 (02:38:56):
If they still won to win, take him anyway you
can get him hard to doesn't matter if you win
by an inch a mile. Ask any real racer winning's winning?
Speaker 10 (02:39:04):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (02:39:06):
Is that Dom?
Speaker 6 (02:39:07):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (02:39:07):
That dt Dom tourell Is. Come on, do you think
when Clay hears this cut he feels great about it?
Speaker 15 (02:39:17):
I do?
Speaker 8 (02:39:17):
I really do.
Speaker 12 (02:39:20):
See?
Speaker 5 (02:39:22):
Oh yeah, alright, tripley, get it, get it ready, get ready?
Speaker 8 (02:39:28):
How many times do you think he's gonna say oh
during this.
Speaker 4 (02:39:33):
Yes, yes, get up and scream? Yeah, here we go.
Speaker 8 (02:39:41):
It's football time in Houston.
Speaker 4 (02:39:44):
Oh ready to play?
Speaker 6 (02:39:51):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (02:39:52):
Yes, yeah, here we go. Where were we at, clay City?
Speaker 4 (02:40:03):
Here's Jax, says Brian.
Speaker 8 (02:40:05):
Sounds like a bad porn movie.
Speaker 10 (02:40:07):
Yes, I.
Speaker 8 (02:40:12):
Warnsh on there like your hair party, go in the
middle and feathered. Yeah you just make it go. I
really like you.
Speaker 7 (02:40:22):
Oh yeah, my Michelle, I turn this off. Yeah all right,
they're gonna win now I'm ready to go.
Speaker 8 (02:40:32):
I hope they get well. I hope they kicked their ass.
I hope they kick Jackson because I don't want to
have to hear this song again.
Speaker 7 (02:40:40):
Hey, Robert, thanks for holding man. Got about a minute
for you.
Speaker 8 (02:40:42):
What's up, Bron?
Speaker 13 (02:40:44):
I bet you wrote do you roll your windows down
in your classic Chevrolet and jam.
Speaker 8 (02:40:47):
That and act absolutely really loud when he pulls up
the like valet and actually thinks that he's really bringing
the noise right. Oh yes, listen to this cut. Clay
Walker even rose up over his own song Away.
Speaker 13 (02:41:02):
I don't know if blay Walker's played the Opry, but
I'm sure he's gonna play that if he does.
Speaker 1 (02:41:06):
But real quick, epic epic.
Speaker 13 (02:41:11):
Series with one of these hot teams coming in Casey
or Detroit. Really looking forward to that, and I'm really
looking forward to hopefully running into the Yankees. That's all
I'll see in the astros. I watched a good documentary
talking about Portnoy. It was on Michigan. It's called Sign Stealer.
It's on Netflix, and the links that this kid Connor
(02:41:34):
Stallions went in. Eventually Harball was suspended and too that
last year. But it's a great documentary and I wanted
as I was watching it, I said, I'm gonna calling
to Marshawn, I mean, was that a big part of
someone on y'all's staff in college?
Speaker 4 (02:41:50):
Even the pros is stealing signs?
Speaker 8 (02:41:53):
No, we never The only sign stealing we ever did
the sign steel. The best signed stealing you had was
the tendencies that you'd catch during you know, oh, second ten, second,
six and or less. They like to do this third
and when they get to the red zone. Just studying tape.
That was the signs signs said. The only sign stealing
we had during the game was if you were a backup,
(02:42:14):
you know, quarterback, and the defense was on the field
and you were watching guys wig wag signals in because
they before the transmitters in the helmet. You were watching
signals and if you've got a pattern of the whatever
the indicator was, you may go. But by the time
you get it to somebody and if they're running a
steady diet a stretch play and say this is easy,
here's their stretch play signal, or maybe you played with
(02:42:36):
that team in the past and they never changed their
hand signals. But think how hard it is. You're on
the sidelines, defensive coordinators into the play, you say, oh,
I think they're gonna run sixty outside or it's a pass.
This signal tells me into the middle of the third quarter.
This is the same signal they use when they're throwing
the ball. They're throwing a hitch route. By the time
you get it to a defensive coordinator and that coordinator
(02:42:59):
calls it in the linebacker and the ball snapped.
Speaker 7 (02:43:01):
It's so frantic. You got to have those those out
in front of it.
Speaker 8 (02:43:06):
The analysts going into it say, here's the deal, while
you're calling to play when they line up in this formation,
that you can steal signs. But there was no study study.
I mean, guys wist study hand signals during the week,
see if you could steal it. But you never You
not like this where you're in computer and load it
down and putting disguises on on the sideline. It was
all in game stuff, and it rarely worked because smart
(02:43:29):
teams change their audible checks and signals.
Speaker 5 (02:43:32):
Let's get a couple of picks in Oklahoma State, Kansas State.
Kansas State favored by minus five.
Speaker 8 (02:43:38):
Give me Oklahoma State, Kannas State win a game. Oklahoma
State inside that bet, all right.
Speaker 5 (02:43:43):
Wisconsin usc USC favored by fifteen and a half Wisconsin.
Speaker 8 (02:43:48):
I think it's gonna be closer than that. Okayes C's
gonna win. Fifteen and a half is a lot of points,
even though it's at home. In Esse's coming off of
that was a physical beatdown they took in the run
game last week.
Speaker 5 (02:43:57):
Sneaky matchup Louisville and Notre Dame. Fifteen is Louisville sixteen
is Notre Dame. Notre Dame favored by seven. I would
take where's this game at Notre Dame?
Speaker 6 (02:44:05):
What is it?
Speaker 8 (02:44:07):
Seven?
Speaker 10 (02:44:07):
Give me?
Speaker 8 (02:44:08):
Give me Louisville. You'll give me. I'll take those points.
I think Notre Dame could win upset possibilities, but with
the spread, I'll take Louisville.
Speaker 5 (02:44:15):
Notre Dame is overrated every year. Give me Louisville money line.
Forget the points. I mean, I would take the points.
Speaker 8 (02:44:20):
If it was on the road, I'd do the same thing.
But since it's in South Bend, I'm gonna take Notre
Dame to win. Louisville close. There's a better team than
they are, I think right now.
Speaker 5 (02:44:27):
Let's see okay, and then we'll just go straight down
to the big one. Georgia Alabama. Alabama favored by actually
Alabama favored by point five. Now that switch, Georgia was
favored by one.
Speaker 8 (02:44:39):
Say morning, they know something. Give me Bama at home
this week, I think is Sbama as well as well?
Speaker 7 (02:44:48):
And then last one, Texans Jaguars.
Speaker 8 (02:44:51):
Spread six and a half, Texans by by double digits ten,
ten to thirteen point win twenty three to ten. That
type of game, if it's explosive, it won't be close.
But give me a double digit win, which is a
big win anyway in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (02:45:06):
Don't have to be pretty. Just get another dub. Well,
I'll I'll see you guys on Tuesday. I'm having a
procedure done on Monday, so I'm good luck.
Speaker 8 (02:45:13):
What are you changing your name to Brianna?
Speaker 5 (02:45:18):
Oh you're having a different percent different procedures. Oh that's
the way procedures coming into seven.
Speaker 6 (02:45:23):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (02:45:23):
I just wanted to make sure I support you no
matter what you do.
Speaker 7 (02:45:25):
Right, it is twenty twenty four.
Speaker 8 (02:45:26):
I support you no matter what you do. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:45:29):
Yeah, and it would be Brionni. That is correct, no problem.
Speaker 8 (02:45:31):
Yeah, man, it's Sean, It's tripley, It's Brianna starting on Tuesday.
Enjoy the weekend. He is very Tripley.
