Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sean Salisbury usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobos.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
This is the Sewan Salisbury show that there will be
no better football coverage.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
When you want the truth football there, when you want
honest football, you want it covered the way it's supposed
to be covered, You'll have no better place to get
it than here about the Texans about college football.
Speaker 5 (00:36):
And along with laughs.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
And you know one thing that I don't get with you,
one thing you do not understand early in the morning
that country must be country wide. Ah. You know what
I'm saying. Who's that? Is that a Brandley Gilbert cut?
Yeah it is Gilbert Covid. I said, you know what,
Bryan doesn't understand that if your country you must be
uh huh country wide. You know what I'm saying. Yeah,
(01:00):
there you go. That's one of the headlines. Would you
do me a favor? Yeah? On every headlight you get it.
They say it, by the way, must be Guthrie wide. Well, yesterday,
yesterday wasn't good. Look good for a second when they
got back into it. First of all, A J. Hinch
(01:21):
was bailed out. Now I understand job's got a future. Man,
he's a young twenty two year old. He can ramp
it up and he's really good. And I understand it
was almost as like it was like it was like
a look at us and ego, I'm going to tell
you how good we are, right And while he's a
hell of a manager, and the way that they've maneuvered
since the second half of this would last the fifty
(01:43):
games or whatever it's been Brian's sixty seventy, the way
they've played, but he about put his team in a
mind because that moment in this building when it was
now five to one, bring him in when it's.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Five to two, right then I get it.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
But and I understand his trust in and if you
if your job, you're sitting there saying, man, this manager
loves me. I got a great future. But you could
tell the shake of his head. It was a little
overwhelming at first for him. Although I think moments like
that in the long run end up making you a
better player. I believe it. I've told you that about
quarterback play. I think struggles, if you're mentally tough and
(02:20):
it's good to be tested, I think sustain you far
longer in your career.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
I need to find out early.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
And we found out, and the kid, you know, got
good stuff, but it was a that's your You're facing
a pretty damn good light up to throw them at.
But it was almost as if we can't do wrong.
That almost got him in a mind. And then the resilience.
They look like the Astros have been. Yeah, they play there,
except they don't have big names a lot of them.
But man, as far as we've heard Dan Brown talk
(02:46):
about grit and resilience, the Detroit Tigers have that same fire. Dude,
if they am or the Kansas City Royals are in
the World Series, you should not be surprised. No, I'm
going to tell you the Orioles what a disappoint I'm
gonna tell you there's gonna be a lot of conversation
that part of the country, in the mid Atlantic area.
And I'll also tell you this that that I look around,
the Yankees are beatable. If you get them with good pitching,
(03:09):
swing and miss, you can jump out in front of them.
Now if you're if you're a little bit clueless and
you decide to throw strikes and let Judge and Soda
in the group t off you, I me in trouble,
but they're beatable. I think the National League is stronger
at the top than the American League right now, right now,
without the resilience of the Astros. There are in Baltimore
who's been good all year long except a few stints
(03:29):
where they struggled. I mean, you look at the Pottery
right now. The Potter is the best team in nationally
I think so. And you got the Pots, the Dodgers,
the Phillies aren't going away, and they all got pitching,
all those things that are real, and they are raking.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
I mean, this is going to be fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
But I'm listening the way Kansas City and Detroit grind
out innings, you shouldn't be shocked. And I'll tell you
what when you're if you're the Bay both got a
front line guy at the top of the order, at
the top of the pitching rotation, they can get you
up one to nothing.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
In Detroit and Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
And there's no better player in the postseason outside of
Judge and Otani than Bobby Wood Junr. Yeah, so you're looking.
We've got ourselves the fun postseason, and unfortunately, for the
first time in eight years, the Astros won't be in
an ALCS. But you know what, Brian, it's who they
were this year. Oh yeah, they exactly the strength of
(04:23):
the team. Starting pitching and Hunter Brown deserved more runs yesterday.
That guy, I'm gonna tell you what Dana Brown told
us yesterday, Sean, He's gonna go out there and he
is going to attack the zone and he's confident. And
you listen to broadcasters, I mean Hunter Brown he was.
He had there was no fear in his game. He
had one pitch that he that he hammered into the
(04:46):
seats and they overcame it. But that that I thought
Hunter Brown was fantastic yesterday. And they just continue to
with the hitting and leave him hanging. Starting pitching was
a strength, make no mistake about it. The two weaknesses
are concerns were can they get clutch hitting when necessary?
And for the most part, the answer was no in
these two games. And then and then can you get
(05:09):
back into the bullpen? And I'll be damned, Presley with
all the great postseason stuff, still had his struggles in
this one. And he goes up and goes bing, go
bango bongo on the first hitter, and you're like, Okay,
this looks like postseason pressley. And then hater comes in
and I'll be damned. I will be damned man. So
the tooth, the very two things that we said would
(05:31):
would haunt them if they did not win. We're hitting
in clutch and hit and scoring runs overall and back
into the bullpen in a close, tight one that put
him in a bind or close or tight, and it
bore itself.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Out to the I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
You couldn't write a script any better if you're talking
about here's how the asked this is. But it epitomizes
their season some great, some good, and some really bad.
And unfortunately the two things that we were concerned about
actually hit the last two games and and yesterday at
its fullest, and they faced a dude, how about the
(06:11):
Detroit Tigers and the way they go about there? You know,
give me six outs? Can you give me three outs?
I mean, they're gonna piece it get and they're not
going to change the whole time. They got one starter
that they love and the rest of this will pitch
seven guys a day. Well, there's all. The only genius
to that is you don't get locked in on three
at bats to the same guy. And it works if
(06:33):
your guys are well rested and love and respect and
understand their role, you know, defined, and they've defined it.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
So good on them.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
But aj got the Hinch got bailed out in the
pitching decision, no doubt.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
Isn't it kind of crazy how baseball works. First of all,
it brings AJ Hinch back here in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Right, yeah, hinchin ain't easy. And then.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
The Austin Meadows home run is off the same foul
pole that lost the World Series in Game seven and
twenty nineteen when AJ Hinch was the manager.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
And one real, one real one pitch that Hunter Brown
would love back.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
Yeah, he was fantastic, unbelievable, five and two thirds, two hits,
one and run on that solo shot by Austin Men.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
It was just two walks, nine ks and he and
and did not back off one friggin bit.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Isn't it crazy? How this is?
Speaker 6 (07:22):
Like, like you just said, this is exactly who the
Astros have been all season long. Presley struggled inconsistent all
season long. Josh Hader would go on stretches where he
was really good. Yesterday he was not very good. Astros
runners in scoring position one first six. That inning, that
job was pitching should have been blown wide open.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
And again double playballs and.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Just you you bring the Tigers brought in gunther and
first or second pitch Kyle Tucker, rollover routine, double play inning,
shut down, right, I get out of there with only
two runs.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
When Dubon was faking button and pulling back right when
they were first and second. Dude, I was about to
lose my mind if he would have swung away and double.
I was thinking, if you may not like bunning, you
have to un here, and he ends up getting an
infield hit.
Speaker 6 (08:08):
And it was weird, man, Like you saw the Tigers
rotations in that bunt defense. Third basement's playing even with
the bag and your first basement was crashing. All Dubon
had to do is literally what he did. And I'm like,
what are y'all doing? Run the wheel plate?
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yeah, aj, yes, just get it to the left side
if your butt, if you're Dubon easy, all you have
to do is is it Even if it wasn't a
good bunt, and it was a good bunny laid down
and got a single libe. But even if you hit
a little too hard where he was the way they rotate.
It was it was too easy. Yeah, it was too
You didn't even have to practice, Bunny. You just got
just get the bat to the ball and don't put
(08:40):
it in the air, right, Just get the ball on
the turf, yeah, on the grass, right, get it down.
But like we say, if you're a young player, like
we were talking about, uh, you know, players that come
in the ball will find you, uh huh. Your weaknesses
in postseason baseball will rear their head. And they've been
a strength at times. There's times in that in that
when they took over the lead for Seattle Rant that
(09:01):
the hitting order was spectacular, right, And there's been times
when it's been decent, and there's been times when it's
been bad and they have scored runs. But the inconsistency
has been their biggest consistency at the plate. Yeah, and
it's the same You look at Josh Hater all the saves,
yet how many closers have as many losses as he
scot this year. It doesn't usually work that way blown
(09:23):
save maybe, but I'm talking about he's been in positioned.
It's a it's almost like at times he's been a
starting pitcher, he's got as many losses as some stuff.
Matter of fact, how many has got seven for the season,
Josh hater losses? Let me come on seven eight, six,
seven eight, somewhere in there with all the thirty plus
losses eight listen, school will started? What thirty games?
Speaker 5 (09:46):
He's got four? Yeah, that's my point.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
It's as if Josh Hayter, when you look at the
numbers put the saves aside. You're going to say, man
to eight eight eight losses as the closer. Yeah, as
the close or which tells you they put him in
situations that that was one of Joe's spots. It felt
like it was one of his lean on things. Anytime
it was within two runs and you were late, Josh,
(10:11):
I mean late in the game. Josh Hader was coming in.
I'm talking about two runs ahead. I mean I mean
two runs I mean are tie or two runs down
where you wanted to keep it close, not ahead obviously
a safe situation then if you're ahead, but dude, do close.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
When's the last time a closer had eight losses? I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Usually it's I can understand five blown saves, right, But
then you look at his saves and he went on
a roll where he's like thirty in a row or whatever.
So it was again the consistently and consistent right where
every single time you're like, don't know what you're gonna get.
Yet here's an one hundred million dollar closer yet has
eight losses. Yeah, and not eight blown it'll it was.
(10:49):
It was maddening. But the season from the beginning to
the end, this is.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
Exactly what we saw. That's exactly and in a three
game series, you can't do that.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I tell you, get down in game one in a
three game series and then you start to do you
start to grind a little more. So let's say it's
a horrible disadvantage in a three game I hate three
game series, but I'd hate it even if Detroit would
have lost, because I don't think you usually in a
seven game series, the best team wins usually. So I
just they they they are exactly who we well what Dinny,
(11:23):
they are who we thought they were, and they let
him off the hook. And that's exactly what it was.
That every inconsistency that you saw during the year, what
guess what, there was an er early in the game.
Every inconsistency you saw during the year reared its head
yesterday exactly and every strength for the I mean when
I say every strength, the starting pitching reared its head
(11:46):
and did exactly what we thought Hunter Brown would do
once he got to that early season funk. And he
let me tell you something, dude, if I'm running somebody
out there first to next year, I'm not so sure
it's not him.
Speaker 5 (11:57):
It is him.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
I think he's the ace of the staff. Fromer's had
a hell of a year. But I've done about mental
toughness everything. If I if I'm them and I say, okay,
who's their opening day starter, that big right hander is
my opening day starter.
Speaker 6 (12:09):
The way that he carries himself, especially yesterday, you put
your nuts on the table and you let him hang
right and you just you you, you show him the
fu fastball right and he did the way he inded
himself yesterday. I wish Fromber did in Game one, well,
I wish Fromber had his mental toughness and you know
what else at the end when they came out to
(12:29):
get him, he didn't want to come out.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
But you see, he didn't have his head down.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
No, he wasn't like he'd put his head up and
looked around the players like let's ef and go. Meaning
got you to the point there was no there's no
ounce of apology room and no need. The dude was
a dude, Yeah he is. And I'm gonna tell you
what is he gets a little older, it's even gonna
get more where he's like where it's gonna be the
(12:52):
point where, oh you watch that home run the last time,
do not dive over this plate? Brother, Yeah, that's the
next level if he's not only he started to pound
the two steamer and move when he pounds that zone
at nineties and dude, he's gonna as he gets stronger
and even mechanically stronger, he gonna hit. He's gonna hit
a ce note. Oh yeah, he's an he ain't, no doubt,
no question man. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
And another thing as we get ready to go to Brandon,
another one the phone lines. One thing you you kind
of think of is josh An pitched in a three
to nothing game in Game one, put pitches on the arm,
comes in yesterday, those thirty five pitches, and I said
it yesterday, I didn't understand why he pitched, didn't.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I asked Dana Brown yesterday, I said, are you okay
with him coming in? And he said, well, that's a
Joe decision, but I didn't like it. I didn't understand it. Yeah,
I didn't either. He said, it's yesterday. I didn't understand it.
Speaker 6 (13:44):
And then he comes in today and look, at the
end of the day, him and Presley have to execute.
But it makes you kind of think a little bit.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Okay, with all the with all the you know, the
pitching depth, losing some stars to move it in, and
I know Blanco got his end in Game one, but
isn't there a party that says did he trust the
rest of the bullpen enough? Isn't that it?
Speaker 5 (14:05):
But remember worse Hectornais didn't.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
That, then those would be questions and Joe spot Is
probably gonna look back and say, if I had to
do that, that's Those are decisions that made rookie manager.
And sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, and it's it's
the way it is. It's not I mean, and it
unfortunately it found them again yesterday. Yeah, it just did.
Congratulations of the Tigers, Congratulations of the Astros on an
incredible run this year, considering you had no business being
(14:30):
where you were with all the injuries, and you still
want a division It's not a consolation prize. I don't
believe in I'm believe in moral victories, but I do
believe in sayings you can pull away from this game
and and the series and the season. And we saw
some Blanco and Hunter Brown's starting pitching. We saw some
balls from this team, but we also saw weaknesses that
reared their head. They really did, and that it was yesterday.
(14:55):
Was yesterday epitomize their season. Yeah, thanks, and the.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Weakness it came to frue with everything we saw yesterday
was how the exact season went. Seven one three, two,
one two, five, seven niney, We're gonna open up the
phone lines. We see everybody there on hold. We're gonna
get in and get your your feelings on the end
of the season for the Astros.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
That's next.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
You know, country must be country wide, So why not
just have country boys come to your crib country with

certain t in GF Shingles Certified and Texas Windstorm Certified.
They'll get out there anywhere in Texas, doesn't matter. When
I say Texas. Anywhere in the Greater Houston area. I'm
not sure they can get down UH to Dallas in
five minutes, but I imagine they would if they needed to.
But no job too large or too small, and they'll
(15:57):
help navigate those awful insurance claims nobody likes to deal with.
Locally owned and operated, it's Country Boys Roofing. Country with

Speaker 4 (16:42):
Let's go call. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
How you feeling this morning? Seven one three two one
two five seven. Iiney to start with Conrad James. Conrod James,
good morning.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
Good morning, sir. Yes, I'm very disappointed. I'm a big
baseball fan, big ass, not as much football, but you know,
I like football, but this is my fun time during
the year, and how we lost was just awful. So
(17:13):
so here here is a few things I want to say. Okay,
One I don't want to see presently in an Astro
uniform next year.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Okay, just enough set.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
I've watched two years of this BS and I'm so
done with him. Okay, now the two more things. The
other thing is the hitting. Okay. A bright spot on
our hitting has been our bunting. I'm so impressed with
our bunting. How we use that tool. So many teams
(17:46):
they don't use that, but we have used that very
well and effectively. What I don't like about our hitting
is I don't know how many games I watched where
we're swinging for the fences. I listened to an interview
with Bagwell. Okay, Now Bagwell knows how to hit the ball, Okay.
He said the fastest way to get runs is by
(18:09):
base hits. How many times have we've had people on
base and then the next person up, Oh, it's on
the Wanning track, Boom, they caught it. You know what
we need is more base hits.
Speaker 8 (18:24):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
My last point is if Pruss, if excuse me, Breakman
wants two hundred million dollars here, that's not going to happen.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
And what I heard him saying in the interview, he's
going to leave it up to his his negotiator, Scott,
to do a deal.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (18:47):
So that tells me that Scott's going to get try
to get as much as he wants.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
I don't think Bragman is a two hundred million dollar player.
Is he one hundred and fifty million dollar player for
six years? Yes, if he'll do that I think we'll
see you next year. That's what I have to say.
Speaker 6 (19:04):
Thank you, Conroe, James. Let's get out to Mike, Mike,
good morning, how.
Speaker 9 (19:10):
Are you guys. I just wanted to say I don't
think Hunter Brown could have pitched any better. Guy was amazing.
And even the ball Meadows hit out, I thought it
was a good pitch up and end. I don't know
how he hit it out. But I also want to
talk about Tucker and I could read you some numbers
over his last three postseasons, but they're not good.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
They're they're terrible. He's hitting like two twenty in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Mike.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
It's it's bad, it's not good.
Speaker 9 (19:38):
Well, his strikeouts are alarming, twenty six strikeouts in the
last three postseasons. I wanted to throw this by y'all,
and I could probably argue either side of this, and
I don't even know if either side.
Speaker 10 (19:53):
Would do it.
Speaker 9 (19:54):
But would you trade Tucker for Trout and and DH
Trout a lot to try to keep healthy?
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Well, the problem with that is trust, Mike. That's a
lot of money you're gonna take on with Trout and
wondering if you're gonna get a full season I listen,
I still think Trout's the only guy I know that
can go one hundred and twenty games and still be
in the MVP race every freaking year he plays. Would
you rather I mean, who would you rather have? Take
away the money?
Speaker 6 (20:25):
Oh, Mike Trout. Mike Trout could literally you just said it.
Mike Trout could play in ninety games and ninety he's
probably gonna win the MVP.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
That's a hell of a lot of money. That's that's
why it's not gonna happen now. I don't doubt that
there's gonna be people that are going to acquire about
trading for Mike.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Trout thirty seven million year up until twenty thirty one.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
Yeah, and I and listen, he's also got a full
no trade clause.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Trout probably like to play here because he doesn't want
to play against the Astros because he struggles. Does he
struggle against the Ashes?
Speaker 11 (20:55):
Well?
Speaker 5 (20:55):
He hits like he low two hundred? Yeah, he does
not hit well here. I love Trout.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
I don't know. I mean that may be if the
money was equal. I think that that's a fairly easy decision.
As much as I like Kyle Tucker, Yeah, but I
mean we're talking about a legendary I mean, this is
this is a great baseball player. Yeah, he just needs
to stay on the field correct, which is part of
being a great player too. But I don't know if
that's the way they're going to go money wise, But
(21:21):
there is no doubt Tucker's postseason has got to get
better if he's going to ask for thirty five million dollars.
I can't pay a thirty five million dollars for regular
season stuff. And I'm a Tucker huge. I think he's
the best five tool. Ah am a Kentucker fame. Let's
see the old Actually know what we're getting ready to
go to break. I can pull up these numbers for
his postseason because they are just not good.
Speaker 5 (21:41):
Well, how do you judge players?
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Well, you know we will season all that, but you
do you is a postseason a big part of why
you pay him or why you don't.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Yeah, I mean it's a big part of it.
Speaker 10 (21:51):
You know.
Speaker 6 (21:51):
You look at these quarterbacks in the NFL that have
hell of a hell of runs in the regular season
and then they get to January, whether they get past
the first round of the playoffs or get into the
second round, whatever the case. Is and they Falter, Dak Prescott,
Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Kirk Cousins. So what's the difference
in a baseball player. There isn't It's exactly my point.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
It is open now, We're factor.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues, proud of their season, disappointed.
How how exactly do you feel this morning again? Seven one, five,
seven ninety calls? Let us know, sewn, you remember back
in like April.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
In May and even June where.
Speaker 6 (23:43):
We took a couple of calls and yeah, it's just
a June series. It's just a May series. These these
games don't really matter. Well, they do matter, especially when
you uh do not get the one or two seed
and you have to play in a wildcard series which
is only three games against one of the hottest tams
in baseball. I don't want to hear ever again that
(24:03):
the opening series or an April series or June series,
May series. I don't want to hear that it doesn't matter.
I don't want to hear any of it.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
You know, I feel about it.
Speaker 7 (24:13):
Brother.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Every times I told you what I hear people say, well,
it's how you finish, not how you start.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
You're ass Yeah, this is why. Right, if you go.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Put it this way instead of twelve and twenty four,
if you go take four, go just go. How about
we do this. Let's go take give me seven wins
from the lost call. Huh, So that'll give you what's seventeen?
You may have to look nineteen seventeen.
Speaker 6 (24:38):
Yeah, they may be the two seed probably, yeah, because
they still had a chance with like a week left
to sneak in to be the two seed. Right, So
when you tell me in football, September doesn't matter, it's
how you finish in December. Yeah, if you suck in
September and you're and you don't get a bye, you
would have loved it.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Not suck in September. It's the same at baseball, one
hundred percent correct, And so it's not that big a deal.
One hundred and sixty two games. You hope it's not
that big a deal. But inevitably it was a big deal,
right because even at two down in a seven game
or five games here, five game because division, the Astros
still have a legit shot because we know how resilient
(25:19):
they've been. Whether they would have done this year or not,
who knows, but I am with you one hundred percent
that did we blow it off? Oh man, it's a
long no big deal. And when then when I hear that,
you know, you know what it's for. When people say
just get in, you know what that means. Now, I
understand if you struggle the whole year and you're fighting,
scratching just to try and get in instead of go home.
(25:39):
I've heard people say, well, if you're not going to
win a super Bowl, wouldn't even want to go to
super Bowl? If you get me no, no, no, right, Well,
if we're not gonna go win it, just playoffs, just
forget it. I've heard people say that over the course
of time. No, you want to get in. It's an
honor to get in and you want to play. And
if you don't win it, being in the playoffs and
losing is better than not being in the playoffs at all.
It just is I don't really care about a fan's
emotional breaking my heart. I just wish you wouldn't have
(26:01):
made the playoff if you're gonna get beat, I don't
want to hear that. Man, I need to do a player.
You get in because you want to have a fight
and chance to go win and play and put your
ass on the line. So well, if you're not going
to win it, why for forget you should just not
been in it in the first place. No, because there's
all then that means every playoff team should stay home,
other than the oneho wins the World Series or the
super Bowl. So it's ridiculous. But you know, you know
(26:23):
who reserves what you're you're saying, hey, doesn't matter as
long as long as we get in. Are the people
who are the ones who know that that's the only
way that that that getting in When they say they
just want to get in, that your team hadn't been
very good this year. Now you fight and scratch it,
you won't say that if you're the the Dodgers aren't
just saying they're fan base just get in. And the
(26:44):
Astros when when when health was okay, nobody understand this
city was saying just get in, even though road teams
and wild card teams advance at times you want a
little leeway, and lee way is to get rest, and
leeway is too if you screw up two games, you're
still alive. Right, So I'm with you. I I don't
(27:05):
I don't want to. They all matter, every frigging one
of them. Yeah, and this is exactly why, Well, the
Arizona Diamondbacks wish they had two more wins on their
schedule because they wouldn't have to rely on the Braves
of the Mets to get out in a rain delay
in July. All of that, right, it doesn't matter. Yeah,
you don't think. You don't think they wish they'd have
swept another series. So just so the Mets and Braves
(27:28):
game mattered for them, not for us, meaning the meaning
the Arizona Backs. Yeah, yeah, so they do matter. Every
single friggin one of them matters.
Speaker 6 (27:36):
Ye seety John, welcome in there all doing We're terrible.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
We're here.
Speaker 8 (27:44):
I know I'm listening.
Speaker 12 (27:45):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (27:46):
I don't know how some of the some all this
up without you hanging up on me, but uh, I
think they.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Just we don't ever hang up on anybody. We're not
gonna hang up on you.
Speaker 13 (27:55):
Okay, okay, okay, uh, we'll just summing it up. U.
Speaker 8 (27:59):
There's Sean. It's just they just got theirs beat.
Speaker 13 (28:02):
I mean, I mean, yeah, that that's I I you know, Hunter,
he did his thing, he put him in the game.
They just kind of blow it. You know, Well, you
you've got your top hitters. If they don't produce, you know,
(28:23):
a year and a hell of a situation there because
you know right now, you know, uh a j He's
got these people, you know, way up on cloud nine somewhere,
you know, and they're just electrifying.
Speaker 14 (28:38):
Man.
Speaker 8 (28:38):
I mean, you never know when they're going to explode.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
You know, as handed to him in two games.
Speaker 6 (28:47):
Thanks for the Let's get out to the phone lines
and continue on and we'll talk to more.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I didn't understand, and it was brought again. Try three.
Uh it's a t R three y z L three
on Twitter the decision and I was thinking about this
this morning too.
Speaker 5 (29:02):
But good reminder of Yah Joe not waiting.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
Till the yeah, the pinchats and out outs and then
going I didn't get it.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
Yes, I understand.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Those are just things that happened, right.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Little little little things like that. Yeah, Morgan, welcome in.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Hey, guys, good morning.
Speaker 15 (29:19):
So I just want to uh just I just want
to thank the Astros. I'm so you know, these Eustonians, man,
we really love our astros and they just give us
such great joy.
Speaker 16 (29:31):
And even with this laws, I was a little disappointed.
I can't say that I was surprised.
Speaker 17 (29:37):
We what have we been saying.
Speaker 16 (29:39):
All year season long that these astros this year, you know,
have been consistently inconsistent the whole year. Uh and and
Sean Brian, I mean basically what happened. The Astros met
a younger version of themselves, man, and these guys came
(30:01):
in the many made man like buzzsauce.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
Man.
Speaker 18 (30:05):
These guys they're swag, they were young, they were having fun,
and I mean they just they just beat us. I
mean they, oh you remember the day before, you.
Speaker 19 (30:16):
Guys were talking about the energy.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
They are the energy man.
Speaker 20 (30:19):
They you know.
Speaker 18 (30:21):
I look, I'm hey, look, I got a you know,
much love to them. I got to give them some respect.
I don't know how far they're going to go, but
they did very very well.
Speaker 16 (30:31):
Uh but you know our astros going on, the Astros
are going to be there.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
They're the Astros to be back and anyway it was.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
You know, I don't I'm not.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
So let down.
Speaker 21 (30:43):
But that's all I have to say.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
You guys, thank you Morgan.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
He's exactly right. I mean, in truth, well, our expectations
are high. Isn't this who they were the whole year?
You said, and we talked about earlier on in the
first segment about the Astros, the Tigers looked like an
Astros team that we saw five years ago. For you,
I mean, just resilient, young trying to find their way,
and they did any way you can do it, and
they're playing with tremendous energy and execution. And I get
(31:10):
over as a fan and the media guy, I get
over losses, And I mean, are you are you sick
to your stomach over it today?
Speaker 5 (31:17):
My stomach, no bum, frustrating.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Mother, frustrated by Saturday. You can be.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
Okay, yeah, I'll be I'll be fine, yea yeah, I'll
be at the gold. I'll be at the Gold ye
exactly so.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
But I don't suffer over actually be okay today right
at the end of the I don't suffer long term
over losses. It's pro sports. Sometimes you got to take
the l and in truth can say all we want
in this series. The Detroit Tigers were better team in
your building, and it happens, Well, what are you gonna do?
(31:48):
It happens. The Astro has been on the other side
of this thing for a long time and the windows
still open. But the Detroit Tigers were just were better.
They're hot, and then.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
A three game series they did what they had to do.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
That's all it takes is a couple of plays, a
couple of innings, and get good pitching. And they got it. Yeah,
and they were they they were just better than the
I didn't say more talented, they're just better.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
They were better than the answer. They were better in
this series, There's no question about it.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
And so you know what it's But did you expect
that the Askers are gonna come out and sweep every
series with the way they've played this year?
Speaker 5 (32:18):
Did the inconsistency it kind of par for the course, right.
Speaker 6 (32:21):
Yeah, Everything that we saw throughout the entire season, back
end of the bullpen, struggles, runners in scoring position, struggles,
games where they don't have any extra base hits. They
had one extra base hit in Game one, They didn't
hit a sean, they didn't hit a home run, in
two games in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah, they the power Bats will have to rear their
head again, right.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:44):
Conord James called in earlier and talked about they need
to hit more singles, bulls, that's all they do. They
need to hit more doubles, a couple of bombs here
and there.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
They're not gonna lie.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Yle Tucker, where are you in October? Well, right now,
he's on his way home.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 6 (33:02):
He's headed back to Tampa. I'm sure seven one, seven ninety. Steve,
Jim and Roger, we see you there.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Holding.
Speaker 6 (33:08):
We will get you on the other side of the break.
We'll continue to take your calls. Also, one thing we
got to discuss. Will Alex Bregman be back with the Astros.
That's next to Sports Talk seven eighty.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues on your Roku. Listen to
Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with our free
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Sweet memories will last a long long.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Time, they will. Yeah, it's like this season for the Astros.
See you, Roger has to say, Roger, Roger, Roger, good morning.
Speaker 22 (33:43):
Good morning fellas Astros organizations stand up and take about.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
It's golf season.
Speaker 22 (33:50):
What you what you've done. What you've done will not
be replicated modern day baseball.
Speaker 11 (33:54):
So we have that to be thankful for.
Speaker 20 (33:57):
Uh yeah.
Speaker 22 (33:58):
Uh the baseball guns or I have have have had
their word to have their saying, so to speak to A.
Speaker 11 (34:06):
J came and uh, a J came and he had
a raw deal.
Speaker 22 (34:10):
Jiff Pan watched his butt with him a couple of
years back, and uh, you know, for for a good reason,
I thought that he could just been suspended.
Speaker 23 (34:17):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (34:18):
I thought that it would come back at one point,
and it did.
Speaker 8 (34:22):
Uh it.
Speaker 11 (34:22):
This is a good learning port for Espada.
Speaker 8 (34:25):
Uh.
Speaker 22 (34:25):
He got a lot of things that that he that
he had to Uh he can learn from as far
as managing.
Speaker 11 (34:30):
You know, Hater's never gonna be here. Uh. Just he's
a closer, and that's what he is.
Speaker 22 (34:37):
You got he had some guys out of place and
Presley closure sometimes and and Hater always it never really
did well.
Speaker 11 (34:43):
He never was a good old guy. Uh. He's just
he's just a closer. And that's what we paid him for.
I know, you want to get more more out of him,
and at times he did. It's just it's just not
his thing.
Speaker 12 (34:55):
Uh.
Speaker 22 (34:55):
As far as the future is concerned, BREGGI will be back.
I have every confidence. You can't have amateur hour on
your two corner infielders, cause you can do one and
out the other.
Speaker 11 (35:05):
You're not gonna do both.
Speaker 22 (35:07):
Also, I think with the pitching surf for us they
were about to about to have, that can facilitate some
pretty good deals moving forward or later on as far
as getting some more pomp, and that's what we need.
The pitching's fine, we know we need pomp. We talked
about it all season, and you know, these guys are
(35:28):
gonna get rested and they're gonna get back to doing
what they do. It's just the baseball guys had to
have their safe first, and it came home full circle.
I just think that that's my opinion anyway. And I
just think it's it's not as bad as as it seems. Yeah,
we lost, but hey, look at the Rangers and look
at the Diamondbacks. Man, those guys one hit wonders, you know,
(35:51):
and we're still you know, still shugging along. So it's fine.
And uh, you know here comes that to this baby.
Let's go, let's roll, baby, have.
Speaker 20 (35:58):
A good one.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Appreciate it, right, Yeah, he's there. I have a hunter
going to use some of that pitching surplus when they're healthy. Yeah,
to find some off season help trade.
Speaker 6 (36:08):
Yep, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised, Jim, thank you for
holding good morning, Hey you morning.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
Guess what's happening?
Speaker 24 (36:15):
Well?
Speaker 17 (36:16):
Oh man, Uh, you know it was just overall, you
gotta think this season was a success, right.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
I mean, we lost.
Speaker 17 (36:23):
How to Ay to begin the season, Punter was Tucker
was out for two and a half months.
Speaker 20 (36:30):
Lost Alvarez for a month.
Speaker 17 (36:32):
We lost Christian Vier, so we had had to overcome
the disaster that was Jose.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Of Bray in Montero. You know, I mean this.
Speaker 17 (36:44):
Team overcame a lot to get where they were. I
wasn't surprised that they didn't win to the playoffs, but
you know, the puffles is going to change this next season.
There's some guys that are gonna leave get a break.
Any We lost Erlander for what a month and a
half two So, you know, I think it was overall,
(37:04):
I think we had a pretty good season. That the
Astros going to be here at the All Star break.
Speaker 6 (37:09):
I sure didn't, Jim, I think you're confusing what uh
never mind, just kidding. Sorry, I'm reading something in. I
don't know, worry about it.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
Yeah, he uh, he's right. It's it's you. You make
the play it's a success. Yeah, it's not. It's a success.
It's disappointing, but considering all they've been through and most
teams wouldn't have been able to get to the playoffs. No, so,
and I don't I'm not looking at as a Oh
here's your consolation prize. I'm not. It's not. I don't
believe in that. We saw good things and sometimes the
(37:45):
parts you got to find out moving forward. What did
do well this year and you made the playoffs. Yes,
it's a it's a success. It's yeah, I'm a trip success.
What are you tripping over?
Speaker 5 (37:54):
Didn't miss?
Speaker 6 (37:55):
I was gonna say, did he didn't miss the start
the year? That was last year with the thumb injury
because of the World Baseball sometimes.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
They run together, right, Yeah, but there was enough injuries
to Yeah, so that Awove missed to start the season.
Speaker 5 (38:06):
No, he didn't.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
But he's what I was trying to clarify. That's right,
But he's right, shripping. He's right about a that they
were that it's a success. It just wasn't the ultimate success.
One to twelve. Right, well, and it's a disappointment because
of where they've been. But it's been a hell of
a run. Yeah, it sure has, and it should continue
next year. I would I would hope, I would hope.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
So let's get into the seven o'clock hour, seven, one, three,
two on two five seven, Iey will continue to talk
about this Astros lost Kyle Tucker struggling in the playoffs
once again, what do the stats look like?
Speaker 5 (38:36):
That's next.
Speaker 25 (38:38):
KD Houston, k TV HD two Houston, an iHeart Radio Stations, a.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Rocket Sports Talk seven, your home for your home team.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
Break Houston.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 4 (39:02):
Sewan Salisbury usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Ryan Lima,
go Lobo. This is the.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 6 (39:16):
He's hitting two twenty nine in his career in the playoffs.
He's in your craw today ops of six eighty five.
You know how many strikeouts he has in the playoffs?
Speaker 8 (39:24):
Sean?
Speaker 1 (39:25):
How many bats? Uh?
Speaker 5 (39:27):
He's got two.
Speaker 6 (39:27):
Hundred and eighteen at bats in the postseason. In the postseason,
is that what you're asking me?
Speaker 1 (39:31):
The overall his overall career, Yeah, strikeout.
Speaker 5 (39:36):
Thirty five times? No higher, Yep.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Sixty close fifty three, So how many bats two.
Speaker 5 (39:44):
Hundred and eighteen, so basically.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
One in four bats a fourth at the time he's
striking out, Yes, but I thought this day and age
in baseball, we didn't care about this strike out.
Speaker 5 (40:01):
Why did he hit two hole the series?
Speaker 6 (40:04):
Because there was a late change in the lineup where
Joe spot them moved out too very or excuse me,
Jordon from the two hold to the three hole. I
have no idea. That's a Joe question, you know. I
know hindsight's twenty twenty. But even I thought, and we
said it briefly yesterday, I thought it was a little
pecureal there you go, that he moved to Jordan out
(40:24):
of the two hole. Didn't Jordon hit in the two
hole like a good majority of this season? Well, they
removed him, and why why not put Bregman there?
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Did he hit? Did he hit two hole in Game one?
Speaker 5 (40:33):
Who did?
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Did Jordan?
Speaker 5 (40:35):
No?
Speaker 1 (40:35):
They moved on you talking about the end of the season.
Ye had no playoffs? He I thought, he said he
moved him yesterday. So yeah, he hit what the three hole?
Both days? Right?
Speaker 5 (40:41):
Yeah? Because Kyle Tucker uh was a rally killer of both.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Of these games. I would have just rather had Bregman
to two and Tucker at four, right, like all freaking
season he has at five. Yeah, whatever, man, you know,
I mean, I'm nitpicking, I'm sure. But still when you
look at his statistics, Kyle Tucker in the playoffs two
twenty nine average three on nine on base slugging of
just three seventy six. That's an ops six eighty five
(41:08):
fifty three strikeouts just twenty eight RBIs two hundred and
eighteen at bats.
Speaker 6 (41:19):
It's not good. Ain't gonna get it done, Patna. Whereas
John and need Villain know he ain't doing damn thing
this morning.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Probably probably probably just walk out.
Speaker 5 (41:28):
Yeah, he ain't doing a damn thing.
Speaker 6 (41:30):
Might get ready for hunting season, probably probably in the
deer stand right now. It is Thursday seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Andrew, good morning, Good morning.
Speaker 11 (41:40):
Uh.
Speaker 26 (41:40):
I do have a couple points I want to make,
but before that, uh.
Speaker 9 (41:44):
Brian A.
Speaker 26 (41:45):
Spot Us said after the first game that the reason
he switched Albarez and Tucker was because he wanted Albarez
to in a position to drive in more runners and
not have to run and be driven in himself.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (41:58):
Yeah, no, we we we have that audio. We played
it a little bit yesterday. It was more like a hypothetical,
like more like a redundant question, like why did he
move him?
Speaker 5 (42:06):
I get the I get it.
Speaker 6 (42:08):
It just sucks when you see a guy like Kyle
Tucker have such a good regular season and get to
the playoffs and he's just not existing, you know what
I mean?
Speaker 26 (42:15):
Yeah, And then I really think Dana Brown, Jim Crane
and even find need to take a hard look in
the mirror and figure out, Okay, what what exactly happened?
How many times did they bring in Presley this year
to blow games? How many times did Hater have to
come in and try to clean up Presley's message.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
A lot?
Speaker 4 (42:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 26 (42:39):
Yeah, I mean I personally, I think if Hater would
have had a clean inning, maybe that maybe that doesn't
happen to Hayter yesterday.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
I don't know.
Speaker 26 (42:49):
It seems he pitches better when he has a clean inning.
And then I saw him after the game that al
Tub said something about he was gonna sit down with
Jim Crane and make it a point that they need
to get Bregman back. I mean, pragnate me if I'm wrong,
But I don't think he did that about Springer or Korea.
Speaker 5 (43:06):
No, he didn't know.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
He has been so outspoken of Alex Bregman over the
last two weeks, and he did he told he told
the media yesterday that he was going to tell Jim
Crane that Alex Bregman needs to stay in Houston and
he's gonna refuse to talk as if he's leaving.
Speaker 5 (43:20):
Well, and that's fine, Yeah, thanks Andrews.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
Thanks for the call, Andrew I and I think that's great,
and I think it's it's a great teammate wants a
guy here. But if the money blows him away somewhere else,
he's not gonna won't matter what al Tuove said to
Jim Crane.
Speaker 5 (43:35):
I mean, I'm sure I'll take the heart Al.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Two V's a legend here and yeah, and I get
his endorsement of Bregman, but if somebody offers him four
more million a year over the course of six years, guess.
Speaker 6 (43:45):
What, Yeah, he's probably gonna take the money. Sure, I
would imagine. I also, I also do think there's something
to be said that. I mean, Al too is a
Bors client, so that probably helps the relationship with him
in Scott Boris and obviously Bregman's a Bors client, But
at the end of the day, Money talks about dog.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Listen, we we all love people in bar buddies endorsing us,
but they don't live with us. They're not our family, right,
So you're gonna do what you feel is best. And
if it's close, I think there's a legitimate shot Bregman stays.
But I also think somebody is gonna make a or
more than one will make a bigger offer.
Speaker 5 (44:17):
Yeah, it'll probably be your Boston Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
I would imagine if he's gonna leave. If he if
he leaves, l A hat when I walk in, I
don't wear UCLA ha. It's look at the logo on
the b okay.
Speaker 24 (44:28):
Man.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
Yeah, but look at how you're a Boston Like, what
the hell are you wearing?
Speaker 17 (44:31):
Dog?
Speaker 5 (44:31):
No, I'm a Trojan. I've never owned a U C.
Speaker 1 (44:34):
L A hat. But this is the this is what
were they call those uniforms, the throwback but the certain
city what do they call the city connected? Yeah, that's that.
This is a But if he goes, if you've got
to lead, if he might as well go the Red Sox.
If he's gonna stay, stay right here. We'd love him here, Bud.
Getting back to the Hater Presley thing, Yeah, I'm sure
cleaning is much easier to work with spring training, when
(44:58):
they're going out or off season. When went got Josh hater,
we pose the question the day after they signed him,
will Pressley treat this as a demotion? That was the
first thing we said, will Pressley treat this as a demotion?
And some people think, oh, no way, And he said,
I got, I got three outs. Doesn't matter if it's
(45:19):
in the what fourth inning or the ninth inning? Doesn't
my eighthing. I got to get him out. But make
no mistake about it, whether you're a fifteen year pro
or you're a twenty one year old rookie, there's no doubt.
And Dana Brown even told me, I said, yeah, he
said it probably has that he probably looked at it
as a bit of a demotion, but it is And
he did. I asked, I said, does he looked at
(45:40):
his a demotion? He said, I'm sure sure he does.
And you know what he should have. He was demoted.
They trusted Josh had as the closer more. That's why
I paid him. Damn near one hundred million dollar dollars
to be the closer. But even though you know it,
you still have a job to do. Presley's postseason has
been historic, epic. Wasn't yesterday and he didn't have And
(46:02):
whether that's it or not, but I would imagine you
and I would feel the same way if you were
if you were the closer, which is you're our guy
and somebody else comes in. Don't you feel like you
got demoted even though your paycheck's the same? Yep.
Speaker 6 (46:15):
Speaking of Ryan Presley in the playoffs, up until yesterday,
he had not allowed an earn run in twenty consecutive
postseason appearances twenty two and two thirds innings, dating back
to Game four of the ALCS in Boston. It was
the third longest postseason streak in MLB history.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
Think about that, all right?
Speaker 1 (46:35):
He was even fantastic, Yeah, but that was in the
ninth inning. As the closer, it's different, and I understand
why he did that. Feeling of demotion would be a
part of it. But you still have a job to do.
And it's not just him. I mean, hater's great in
the closing role. He's not. He wouldn't be very good
(46:57):
as a starting pitcher because he lost eight games here,
but he can light it up and gets you saves
and go on, and he can ramp it up. Listen,
the fine line between who the best is and the
last is there's there's only a couple of players and
some good pitching and a little bit of health and
a little bit of luck. It really is. Who's the
worst team in baseball this year? M record wise, it
(47:18):
was Miami Marlins, Baby White Sox. Okay, so let me
let me, let me give you, let me put a
let me give you a closer. Did you say those
bumps awful? Let me get okay, give me a trout
goes to Chicago. They uh, they get Corbyn Burns like
(47:40):
Milwaukee did last year, right, I mean like Orioles get
from Milwaukee. Huh, and uh, all of a sudden they
get We make a trade because we think that they
need to get the Javier gets healthy and goes to Chicago,
and they get one other starter, and then they get
one more. Big Bob or Bregman's the starting third basement
for Chicago White Sox.
Speaker 5 (47:59):
Okay, are they better? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (48:03):
That's five players, a couple of pitchers, a couple of
good players. The difference between them and who wins the
World Series this year will be what other than pay roll,
a couple extra plays in, a little luck and staying healthy.
And it literally is the case. It's the case.
Speaker 6 (48:19):
I mean, look at just look at this Detroit Austin Meadows.
Who the hell is Austin Meadows?
Speaker 1 (48:25):
You know what I mean? Like if you don't see
him in the postseason, say hey, man, who's the starting
lineup for the Detroit Tigers? You're like, I know that guy? Uh,
Spencer Torkolsen was the top pick in his draft. You
know they outside of Tark School. Could you tell me
who the starting you know who the biggest name was
from the no the biggest name before who couldn't hit
(48:46):
a lick that they signed big money to remember the
SEC and the d F HM.
Speaker 5 (48:50):
If I'm.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
Biggest, your biggest name even before Schooble, the biggest name
going into this season on that roster was Dadamn And
they are in the Divisional round after sweeping the Astros.
So the difference between really good and not so good
it's not much. It really isn't you get you can
get healthy quick? You know what they need?
Speaker 5 (49:13):
Team meeting.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
The most overrated thing in the history of sports. Team
meetings and players only meetings. Yeah, nothing more. Nothing says
your team sucks more than yes and players team meetings
happen every week. You go to go to the players
(49:36):
only or they call me a meeting for what. So
it's a bitch fest. That's what they usually end up
to anybody else, because you don't call a team meeting
when you're winning, when you get your ass headed to
you and everybody's pissed because they're not doing their gig.
And one guy and then inevitably, hey it's not personal.
Have thick skin, and you'll walk out of the meeting
and you'll be to walking with I've been in them
(49:57):
two or three guys. Oh man, punk ass bitch talking
to me like that, Man, focus on your own gig.
If that's the way it works, it's it's And if
you ever notice that the guy who's killing it, I
mean kicking ass a lot of times, is this a
guy who throws the te beating and the rest of
the guys like, do you feel like, oh, they threw
this team meeting players only meeting for me? Right?
Speaker 5 (50:17):
Yeah, they're rare. Do they work?
Speaker 27 (50:19):
You know?
Speaker 1 (50:19):
It works? Yeah, producing whatever they like a walk off
home run in July, and all of a sudden you
feed off it and your team changes or or somebody
gets hot, or somebody gets healthier.
Speaker 5 (50:31):
All of a sudden you get a little confident. Four
or five games and you roll.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
Yeah. Players only meetings or and team meetings the most
overrated thing in sports. Accountability and take care of your
own business. The rest will take care. I think we
should have them. You want to have one? Yeah, Ok,
let's during the break, Triple League, get in here. One
f team meeting.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
All right, we'll do it. Players only, so there's only
three of this.
Speaker 6 (50:51):
Yeah, seven five, seven nine. Got the phone lines jammed up?
We will get to all of your calls, so don't
go anywhere. I want to know how you're feeling after
the ashes get eliminate. The stakeout is next in s
four stock seven eighty.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
I'm back to the Sewn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (51:11):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing on there?
Speaker 9 (51:13):
Now?
Speaker 3 (51:14):
The Salisbury Stakeouts, Salsbury takeout on the.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (51:20):
Time for the steak out Here on the Sewn Salisbury Show,
Sean Bran and Triple the Astros lose to the Tigers
season over parade canceled.
Speaker 5 (51:29):
It's football time.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
He's a FM fourteen sixty three and Katie fullsher cancel it. Yeah,
well we've just decided to add more uh add more
constructions contruction anyway, So yeah, yeah, you can't do it, sorry, man,
I just have to wait till next year or until
the Texans go win one. There you go, there go, Yeah,
(51:51):
it'll be nice. We can do that as well. Scott
to Canada, fucking Rosie Rosie, good morning.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Good morning guys.
Speaker 12 (51:58):
That were you.
Speaker 5 (52:00):
We're doing well, how about you?
Speaker 28 (52:03):
Oh disappoint said, this is this is how my day
went instantly. So I was getting ready to make some
really good stakes for.
Speaker 18 (52:13):
My husband when he came home from.
Speaker 28 (52:15):
Mark because I was thinking, Okay, we're gonna sit down
and talk about it.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
Definitely can't say that one who was out on there.
I was Rose Rosie in Canada wrote hey, we feel you, Rosie,
we feel you. Whatever said on it went to hell
in a handbasket. A little easier to be a little
more acceptable for the FCC.
Speaker 5 (52:39):
You just can't s bomb on the air. You can't.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
Unfortunately, we'd love to keep you on here and say Hey,
that's how people talk when they're talking about what happened.
But unfortunately we just can't because we don't. Brian O,
you don't need a excuse me. I want with the
bridal card. I ain't paying the fine. Yeah you don't
want to pay that fine. I'm not paying it right,
So he's paying it. Yeah, there you go, all that
money he makes, so there you go. Yeah, no, we
(53:06):
just can't. But I get it.
Speaker 5 (53:08):
No S bombs, no F bombs, you say ass if
you want? Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
Yeah, you sure can't.
Speaker 5 (53:16):
John, Good morning, jurny guys.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
Yeah, good morning.
Speaker 11 (53:25):
Better but hey, I agree with Rosie.
Speaker 29 (53:27):
But yeah, but anyways, yeah, I'm there's two things.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
Did you hear John? What do you are you listening
on the app or on your uh at Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (53:42):
And you heard her cuss word? Yeah? M okay, Well
she said it pretty quickly, so oh no, but I
was just I'm just was concerned about our our but
our dump button. So oh you heard it on the
radio or through the phone on the hold.
Speaker 29 (54:01):
Through the well, I was I was holding for you right.
Speaker 6 (54:05):
Oh yeah, so you heard heard the phone? Yeah, he
didn't hear it on the radio. Triplet okay, radio, Okay,
got it? Just making sure Tripley got it.
Speaker 29 (54:15):
Yeah, no problem. But yeah, no, I I was going
to chime in.
Speaker 30 (54:20):
I thought, you're gonna steal my thunder because I was
going to chime in on Tucker and uh as you know,
I've been critical in the past, and last year I
was livid because you know, he was a no show
in the playoffs and I really.
Speaker 5 (54:31):
Put a lot of the blame on him.
Speaker 29 (54:33):
But I'm just ready to move on from him, to
be honest. I mean, you remember, you remember Sean how
Steinberger called Alex Rodriguez mister May.
Speaker 1 (54:44):
Yes, he start out really.
Speaker 29 (54:45):
Good, have a pretty good season oftentimes, but in the
playoffs he couldn't even bend over to pick up a
ground ball, you know, he would just choke and he
called it mister May. And I think Tucker's are mister
May so anyways, but anyway, he's happy for Ajhin.
Speaker 11 (55:02):
You know, I was worried. I was very worried about
this series.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
I mean, Detroit does look.
Speaker 29 (55:06):
Good, and if we got beat by somebody, you know,
I'm okay with it being him.
Speaker 11 (55:11):
I think they're going to maybe make a deep run
in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Actually, yea, I tht in Kansas City are both dangerous,
my man, and yeah, I agree.
Speaker 11 (55:19):
I agree.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
I think the Troit can surprise some people.
Speaker 29 (55:22):
They've got the they've got the arms, they've got the talent,
and uh, you know, we'll see and uh, you know,
I'm happy for a j I am, and uh you
know we I don't know, we got to do something
about I'm just really uh disappointed with Tucker again and
I'm ready to move on from him.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
I hope he can keep bragman, but.
Speaker 29 (55:42):
I just you know, you've got to rise to the
occasion in the playoffs. You just got to, and he
just doesn't at all, and so, uh, I'm tired of it.
Speaker 8 (55:50):
I'm ready to move on.
Speaker 1 (55:51):
Its valid point, John, I think there's some people that
pay that way, especially with the frustration. Tucker's a hell
of a player, but in the postseason he's been just.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
A guy, and even below just a guy. He had
a buck fifty in the playoffs last year.
Speaker 1 (56:04):
To me, just the guys, you're just a warm body.
I mean it's a warm body that we're trying to
try to We're wishing you to, we're wishing you into
a hit. Does that make sense?
Speaker 5 (56:12):
Buck fifty?
Speaker 1 (56:13):
Last year, I mean, we gave, gave, you gave Detroit
to Hinch and you know what they took.
Speaker 6 (56:17):
They took a mile. Yeah, they took the damn Series
from you. Yep, henching ain't easy, big dog. I'm going
to tell you what I'll tell you. I'm gonna tell
you this. Though they moved a hinch closer to the
World Series, They're hinching their way, sure are Brian. I
got about forty five seconds for you, man, Good morning.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
Good morning, guys.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
I will be quick.
Speaker 31 (56:35):
I think what our astros are missing at this time,
as compared to in twenty twenty two, when the world said,
not just the Phillies said we want Houston, they got them.
Speaker 26 (56:47):
Last year was a fluke.
Speaker 17 (56:49):
We should have had it.
Speaker 31 (56:50):
The Rangers ended up sneaking in Okay. When we lost Baker,
we lost our culture, when we lost Springer, when we
lost the guys that brought us. I think our team
is suffering from a culture and identity problem.
Speaker 1 (57:06):
The moment that.
Speaker 31 (57:08):
We fixed that, I think we get our astros back.
They even said it the other day on Tuesday. The
ballpark felt different. When did Bregman this year walk back
into the dugout face that camera and do his little
John Cena you can't see me crap, Like where is
our identity? That's what I wanted to say this.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
Morning, appreciated, Brian.
Speaker 1 (57:29):
Were there a lot of empty seats? I watched it
on TV? Yeah, yeah, I mean there looked like and
I'm not judging that, but I'm just wanting it felt
like they were felt like, I mean like, we're like
ten minutes before the game and it was still, yeah,
I know, arriving crowd.
Speaker 5 (57:41):
Maybe because it was a day game.
Speaker 6 (57:43):
Will Kunkle of Fox twenty six Sports he did his
live hit right before the game and he panned out
to the crowd. There were still plenty of empty seats.
I can't remember if it was ABC thirteen Sports or
it wasn't Randy mckelvoys. Maybe it was ABC thirteen Yeah
he whoever it was, I'm blanking me right now. But
he also pointed out that there were plenty of season
I get it, man, one thirty start on a Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (58:05):
I understand it. Earn eleven, man, I get it.
Speaker 6 (58:08):
That's the That's if you want to complain about that, well,
maybe the Astros should win a couple more games, they
don't have to worry about the wildcard and getting played
played on in the in the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (58:17):
Let me ask, do you think do you think do
you think did we take for granted? Did we just assume, well,
they'll get it taken care of and move on?
Speaker 32 (58:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (58:30):
I think so you do. Yeah, I think that too.
Speaker 6 (58:33):
Yeah, I think we've become spoiled, and so I was
even straight Alcs's right.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
The two question was either do you think we're spoiled
and like they'll take care of it they always do,
we'll see in the division round, or they're down one
this year is us.
Speaker 5 (58:48):
I'm it's going to pass. Which one do you lean on?
I think it's more so spoiled?
Speaker 1 (58:55):
Okay, fair enough? Wild cards the Tigers, Yeah, we'll get them.
We can't sleep up.
Speaker 6 (59:00):
Yeah, well we weren't going to beat school anyways. We'll
get them in game two. It's a bullpen game, and
then it's a bullpen game in game three. That's where
I think we were leaning as a fan fan base.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
I would tend to agree with you seven.
Speaker 6 (59:11):
One, three, two, two five seven ninety Rob, Wayne and
Edward will get to you guys next. Continue to talk
about these astros. You know, I'm going gambling this weekend, Sean,
gambling with my money? How should I invest my money?
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Well, see, if my guys at Trasian Wealth were advising you,
they'd say, do you have that risk tolerance in your body?
What's your risk tollerans? But you're not retired yet, You're
still in your st you haven't even reached your top
earning potential yet in your career. So you got time.
But I would tell you this, Ryan, start planning for it.
You know, when you go win, after we get picks
(59:44):
together and you go win, I suggest you put us
a pay yourself and then pay yourself again. Trasian Wealth
will help. Trasian Wealth will help you manage your portfolio.
They're not gonna help you with your gambling picks. They're
gonna help you understand how to prepare for retirement the
right way, and if you're in retirement, how to be
able to stay retired with your money. Risk tolerance is big.
How much do you want to how much do you have?
How much can you say can you retire with? And
(01:00:08):
can you stay retired with the money you've earned? All
those things, whether it's roll over for one k insurance,
everything that goes with peace of mind and retirement. After
all the thirty forty fifty years of work you've put in,
wouldn't it be a bummer Like in Halloween we think,
you know the changing seasons that the leaves grow on
trees and that fall off the trees, and the fall
that money grows on trees.
Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
Well it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
And don't put that costume on and with your finances
and just kind of be cosmetic. You need some soul

retirement and trade and wealth can help. They'll let the

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
The Sean Soundsbury Show continued, We'll go to Wayne, Wayne,
good morning, Hey.
Speaker 24 (01:01:47):
Morning, thanks for taking my call. I enjoy you'll show
a long time listener call from time to time, but
I haven't had a chance they bey.
Speaker 32 (01:01:53):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (01:01:54):
I'm gonna make a couple of comments and I'll hang
up and listen.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (01:01:57):
And it's still is kind of weird, kind of strange.
I'm used to that is almost hearing going trick or
treating and trying to watch the game or something. So
it's kind of funny like that. But uh, you know,
I I hope they do whatever they can to keep
pregnant since he was one of the original cornerstones of
the Golden air of Astros baseball. Just let Tucker and
uh Presley and possibly Justin Bernander.
Speaker 8 (01:02:19):
I like him too.
Speaker 24 (01:02:20):
But I'm okay, if they let all three of those guys, uh,
maybe that maybe the Texans can get the Lions back
at ENORDI to get pay back a little bit. Spink
spink the Lions and get Detroit back a little bit,
and I'll hang up to listen. Have a good one.
Speaker 5 (01:02:32):
Thank you, Wane.
Speaker 6 (01:02:33):
As far as Justin Verlander, let him walk, he said
he wanted. Last night, he told the media that he's
not done competing. He wants to continue to pitch, but
not here.
Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:02:42):
He's done enough for this city. He's done enough for
this organization. Let him walk. To me, don't don't re
sign him.
Speaker 5 (01:02:47):
Well, I can't pay him twenty five minutes. Hell no,
pay him ten million bucks.
Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
I'm I'm going to say this. We all have our
our critiques and criticism and compliments, and you're critiquing somebody's game.
Kyle Tucker's got to step his game up, and he's
a hell of a player, but he's got to be
a hell of player in the postseason. But you go
through it. I think, guys, I think Presley cares about
what I do. He's probably got I think I think
that's I do and He's an easy guy to root for.
(01:03:14):
I think Josh Hater looks compared. I think it's today
he wakes up miserable.
Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
And when people say is and everybody, I don't believe it.
I'm not just talking about here. I've been on teams
where everybody's not miserable the next day. I can get
over it quick. But I wouldn't get over it quick
if I was playing now. Eventually I will be today.
And it's when you lose the offseason, it's like you
can't wait to get you want a little break, but
then you can't wait to get back to work. I'm
assuming the Bregman's and the Tuckers and the Alvarez can't
(01:03:39):
wait to get back and start doing their thing. Right.
Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
How do we fix it?
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
But I actually I don't use the word too often
when it comes to sports franchise. I am actually proud
of the way they played this year, not the end result.
I mean it's disappoint it's not it's not a matter
of like, oh, you know, soft selling because they got beat.
Speaker 5 (01:03:56):
It's disappointing end.
Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
But when I go if I went around the league
and looked at all the how everybody got to this
point at wherever if they're in the playoffs or eliminated.
The odds were so stacked against them after the twelve
and twenty four starting all the injuries, I thought Joe Espada,
for the most part, did a really good job. I
thought Dana Brown did a hell of a job. I
think the Astros organization is a great example for other organistas.
(01:04:23):
And we've seen other teams now try to organizations try
to do what they do. I think that Jim Crane,
I mean, you can't do this, even though you may
disagree with who he pays and who he doesn't, which
is okay, they win, and think about this off season
frustration up and down season, they won the division. Now,
(01:04:45):
like I said, I don't believe in consolation prizes, but
I do believe in what can you feed off and
learn from what happened. Growth doesn't usually happen when you dominate.
Usually growth happens when you don't. And I considering all
the injuries and what they went through, I actually think
it was a pretty spectacular comeback in season. Just with
(01:05:07):
listen right now, the Baltimore Oils are miserable right.
Speaker 5 (01:05:12):
Oh yeah, And.
Speaker 6 (01:05:13):
So two years in a row and my expectations and
you get kicked out in the first round.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
It's exactly right, So I couldn't be more proud. Well,
we'll critique and compliment and say what we want. Who's
going to sign and why wouldn't we And he's got
to pick it up and that's okay, it's it's it's
never personal. But what I do know is considering what
they went through and you know me, I'm not what
do we call it? Uh on Monday? Uh? What is
it when we call when the somebody loses? But we
(01:05:39):
call it what's the word?
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
Oh? We used to say it with Lovey Smith and
the Texans.
Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
You know when you wake up on Monday, it's oh,
what is it? I know exactly what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Where they were you where you're like to make it?
Excuse did?
Speaker 8 (01:05:53):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
Everything's okay? What do we call it? Not make up Monday?
I don't know why the frame left me. You get
my point?
Speaker 7 (01:06:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:06:03):
It goes along with consolation prize, right, moral victory? Moral?
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
Yeah, moral victory mondays they used to call it moral
victory money. There's no moral victories here. And I don't
think the Astros is competitive. You can't keep winning. If
you're a moral victory team, you could take some victories
out of losses, because some how can you not take
a victory for Kyle for for a Hunter Brown, that's
a big piece of this whole thing after his start,
and look how I finished. So I'm actually really proud
(01:06:29):
of the Astros. I don't think a lot of us
thought after all this that they'd be here, let alone
I mean in the playoffs, but let alone the World
Series and then we got going. It's like they've spoiled us,
and it's like even they're going to pull this one out.
I don't think they apol you know, anybody an apology.
I thought they I think they had a hell of
a season considering and I still think that. I think
(01:06:50):
they gave they found something to build on. Now you
get to the individual production. Guys got to play better
in certain situations. But how you're not proud of the
organization for what they've done for a straight years and
even this year with all this could have been there.
I mean, this is one of their finest regular seasons
considering where they ended up after where they were. Yeah,
that's just my opinion, man, kJ real quick, what's going on?
Speaker 10 (01:07:13):
Real quick, fellas, if I can take a second any time,
I want to give him a point across. You look
into things and the Astros, the players the Afflus have
lost over the past few years, Springer, Correa, Sofa and
so on. We know the list. Obviously we haven't properly
replaced that talent. But this is my bigger issue. You
think of the intangibles that those guys brought to the team.
We've talked all year about leadership or lack thereof on
(01:07:35):
this team at times.
Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
You had that with Springer in the dugout.
Speaker 10 (01:07:38):
You had that with a Josh Reddick, albeit overachiever, but
a guy who brought energy to the team out there
on the field and gave us an identity.
Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
You had that with.
Speaker 10 (01:07:46):
Korea going to the mound, even if it wasn't a
mount visit from the pitcher coach as a manager, those
guys actually brought intangible things to the team that you
can't measure with a back or speed gun, and we
just don't have that right now. More talent, yes, but
I think we visibly visibly need and I'm not saying
they don't have leadership now, but we actually saw that
(01:08:07):
leadership play out in previous teams that we're just not
seeing it now when the bats are going dead, when
when the Frombers are getting rippled. You saw Korea go
out there and calm him down. There was certain tengible
things that those guys brought that we don't have now.
And I think we can get the talent, but until
we get that back, there's a certain chemistry and personality
that goes with a championship team and right now we
(01:08:30):
just don't have it. I just want to hear what
you guys got to say.
Speaker 6 (01:08:32):
Thank you, kJ. Well, we can talk about that during
your regular say dissect it. Yeah, yeah, we will definitely
dissect it all morning long. Here on the Sean Salisbury
Show seven and three, two one, two, five, seven ninety,
we continue to take your calls. Astro season comes to
a close. Aj Henchin and Tigers beat them five to
two yesterday at Minim Park. Also have a statistic here
(01:08:54):
that's gonna blow your mind when it comes to postseason
games at home for the Astros. What is its? And
Astros fans, how you feeling this morning after that loss?
Speaker 5 (01:09:03):
That's next?
Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
Let the celebration start war Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:09:13):
Let's start with Dwayne. Dwayne, good morning, Good morning guys.
Speaker 32 (01:09:17):
Hey, I got a question. They're talking about Alex Berkman
being re signed. Yesterday, MLB reported that it's leaving the
baseball advertising television through Bally Sports. Bally's quitting on eleven teams.
But h I'm sorry, but Houston has its own broadcasting
(01:09:37):
networking radio. Will that affect the signing of Alex Brickman.
Speaker 6 (01:09:44):
No, okay, the Rockets, the Rockets and Astros came together
for Space City Home Network, so they owned the broadcast
network those two teams. Not sure how that would affect Alexbergman.
YEP appreciated d Wayne. Uh, let's talk to Jack Jack,
good morning.
Speaker 23 (01:10:03):
Great show, guys.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
So much to talk about.
Speaker 23 (01:10:05):
I'd love the last call before that on the Angibles.
I just don't see any fire in these guys and
never just there's something missing. Uh. Maybe starts with the manager,
but anyway, Tucker, I'd love to see him leave. Honestly,
you just hit you talk about no fire and no
show in two straight years of playoffs. Uh when dubond
(01:10:28):
is and also the only other thing I would say,
but the year I told my wife and maybe April
or may Or Jane I said, if we get to
the playoffs, we won't go anywhere we don't have We
just don't have clutch hitting. We leave, we leave so
many guys on base, and they just they I don't
know how to solve that problem.
Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
Hey, Jack, can I ask you a question? We've heard
this a couple of times, and we hear it often,
and it's not like putting you on the spot. I'm
just curious when we say just so we get an idea.
When you say, or when somebody says, he in tangients
a fire, Okay, if it's not, do you mean that
you don't think they care that?
Speaker 17 (01:11:03):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
Is it body? Is it body language? Is it energy?
Is do you take on the personality your manager? Because
you know what, he's not a fiery guy, right Joe's
body he's as yeah. So so what do you let
me ask you this for your optics? What do you
need to see for you to feel like the fire
is there?
Speaker 23 (01:11:21):
I would like to see some guys getting mad. I
would like to see him argue a little more when
it's when it's almost clearly.
Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
A bad call.
Speaker 23 (01:11:30):
But I would just like to see some people, some
guys getting.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Mad like Kyle Tucker if he strikes out and he's
having a tough postseason, to break his bat over his
sty like Bo Jackson did that?
Speaker 5 (01:11:40):
That Yeah, that kind of I know, I bean serious?
Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'd like to see that. I'd like
to see some.
Speaker 11 (01:11:45):
Spirits and fire.
Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
That makes sense.
Speaker 11 (01:11:47):
Most of them you don't see.
Speaker 23 (01:11:48):
You know, that's just I played baseball in my whole life,
and I just don't understand why they're so reserved anyway.
And then you know what, I don't know what to do,
but to clutch hitting position, you got to be one
of them.
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
That's the number Yeah, you got to You got to produce.
That's the number one thing, right, my man.
Speaker 23 (01:12:04):
Pitch pitching, actually pitching actually saved them coming down the street.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
Without pitching, they would have finished, They wouldn't have stuffed
the playoffs this year.
Speaker 33 (01:12:12):
Ok.
Speaker 5 (01:12:13):
Yeah, thanks Jess, great, great stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
My problem when I played baseball, dude, it wasn't I
need more fire, it was less.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
Grab him by his jersey, tell me calm down.
Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
The ball was right down the bud of the plate.
And he still wants to argue and fight over the strikeout. John,
you don't need to be ejected twelve times in forty
high school baseball games. Yeah, yeah, you know that is
what it's like. No, that's a strike that every pitch
you throw is a strikeer, right, yeah, there's no question, Mike.
What's happening, Mike? Mike? Hello, yes, yes, yes, Katie? How
(01:12:47):
you doing by, Mike?
Speaker 5 (01:12:48):
What's happening?
Speaker 24 (01:12:50):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
My man?
Speaker 21 (01:12:51):
Hey, I'm better to get the Tony Nanty season.
Speaker 12 (01:12:53):
I mean, Aststan forever.
Speaker 34 (01:12:55):
And I called back a couple months back, and I
told you about George Spoder and the general manager. In
my opinion, as long we got those two guys with
this team, we're not gonna win anything.
Speaker 6 (01:13:07):
Okay, hang on, right, hold on, Mike, let me ask
you a question. Yeah, what about Dana Brown? Have you
not liked because he's made some really good moves at
least this season. What don't you like about Dana Brown?
Speaker 21 (01:13:21):
Well, I mean he let go to those three guys.
I was not I was not agreeing with with the
Asian guy.
Speaker 6 (01:13:26):
I coming like you're talking about Lowperfeedo, Will Wagner and
Jake Bloss.
Speaker 21 (01:13:32):
Exactly, You're way.
Speaker 12 (01:13:34):
He was tearing out the best.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
Okay, he didn't listen. Let me ask you this though,
and and I love your energy, Mike, but Kokuchi has
been the best trade deadline pickup in baseball. He he
didn't he lost one game, and he didn't pitch well.
Speaker 5 (01:13:51):
I mean they.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Lost one game in the ten or eleven starts. He
had pitched well enough to win that game.
Speaker 6 (01:13:56):
Nine and one in the starts for Kokuchi, the team won.
Jason Heyward was a good pick up Ben Gamble.
Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
Look in the offseason when they went out and got
Victor Carrattini. Right, So I'm just curious what no, And
I know five years down the road that low Perfedo
in that group and Bloss may be off the charts good,
but I'm not so sure they make the playoffs. Is
Kakuchi's not on the roster this year? Okay?
Speaker 21 (01:14:19):
But was it one of making the playoffs and get
it and get in swip?
Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
Right?
Speaker 21 (01:14:21):
I mean that's point.
Speaker 1 (01:14:26):
This year we're talking about, right, Mike, Right now?
Speaker 5 (01:14:29):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (01:14:30):
What was Jake Bloss gonna do in the postseason for them?
He wouldn't even got a start. So there's a cut
of that one. Uh was low Perfido as much as
we fell in love with Joe Joey Loperfito's energy, and
I hope he's a star. I love the kid. If
you look at his production, Ben Gamble was a better
player this year, right, Ben Gamble played better than Joey
(01:14:54):
Loperfedo did. And I think low Perfido is gonna be
a great player. We're talking about now. The impact now,
I don't think there's one per and that can argue
in twenty twenty four that that that the trade that
the Astros didn't win the trade. Right now, there's no
doubt Kakuchi was a fantastic yet fantastic now five years now,
(01:15:16):
I don't know there's a chance you're gonna have to
get paid. But why hey, he had great success here.
Wouldn't you think after what he did in Toronto, which
wasn't his best baseball, he came here and had instant success.
Wouldn't that have a little bit of impact on what
you're doing in the future. And I would imagine Dana
Brown and the Astros would like to sign him.
Speaker 6 (01:15:33):
He said last night to the postgame media that he
wants to come back here.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
So I understand your love for the young players. Not
one of those young players was going to impact the postseason.
This year, they weren't and unfortunately we got right right.
But that's not it. That wasn't Dana Brown's Dana Brown
didn't get swept yesterday. I mean he did because he's
part of the team, But his decisions had nothing to
do with getting swept yesterday. That's just my opinion.
Speaker 21 (01:16:01):
I don't know, okay, But I mean, like I say,
and about Joyce Spota, to me, he's got no manager.
He's a bench manager. He shows it shows big time.
You know, you don't have the energy.
Speaker 12 (01:16:14):
He don't have the energy.
Speaker 21 (01:16:15):
To ignite this guy. You know, the guys they are
playing like without a manager, you know, like whatever they do,
whatever they want, you know. I mean, that's that's why
that's what I get the buye.
Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
You know, Mike, you're alive, You're your opinion is valid,
and I think you're going to get some people that
agree with you on that and there'll be some that don't.
Speaker 21 (01:16:33):
So it makes me coody that, you know, put this
guy in age, you know, just like you know agent Hinch.
Speaker 14 (01:16:39):
You know you can.
Speaker 21 (01:16:40):
You saw the difference of managing a team big time
in those two games. It was like, oh my god,
it was like incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
Yeah, you can also make the argument at the end
here when aj Hinch when the twenty seventeen when he
told the players apparently to what quit quit stop stop
with the video stuff, and they continued, Well, it didn't
look like they had. They didn't pay my attention to
him when he told him to stop. Correct.
Speaker 5 (01:17:03):
So and Detroit is paying attention now.
Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
So there's good and bad in every single and I
mean things to like and things not to like in
every you all a Jhnson did a marvelous job with
Detroit and they're still playing, and he's a hell of
a manager. But he's made a few mistakes long the way,
as says Joe Spot, and it won't be the last time.
But I'd have a hard time having somebody convinced me
that Dana Brown didn't do a hell of a job
this year, regardless of whether he's a guest on our show
or not.
Speaker 21 (01:17:26):
Mike, I mean, I get I guess hopefully he makes
some good move and we get like a good first
base man, two outfielders at least we need three guys,
at least three guys.
Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
I think you're going to see some movement this offseason. Brother,
Thanks Mike appreciate the insight Jake Bloss. I think Jake
Boss is going to be a good player. He wasn't
going to impact him this year. To me, Jake Boss
is going to be a guy. He didn't even he
didn't even play the big Sparks loves it.
Speaker 6 (01:17:49):
He didn't even play on the big leaguet the big
league level for the Blue Jays, and the blue Jays
were terrible, right, so he wasn't gonna do anything for
the Astros no season. Will Wagner wasn't and neither was
Joey Loper fiedl Let's be real here.
Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
And low prafied Away. He fell in love with his energy.
Look at his numbers. He has like a thirty eight
percent strikeout rate. Yeah, and he's gonna be a good player.
Speaker 5 (01:18:07):
I think I think so too, but Will will as well.
Speaker 1 (01:18:10):
Not one of those three was going to impact this
team or save the sweep yesterday. They don't get to
the playoffs without Kokuchi, there.
Speaker 5 (01:18:19):
Was no question about it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
They were nine to one in ten starts for Kokuchi,
no question. And considering Verlander's situation, how he pitched coming back,
they Kokuchi was a muss yep I I to me,
I do the trade four thousand times over.
Speaker 6 (01:18:35):
And you know what you go, You go resign Kakuch
and you put him on the staff for next year.
Speaker 1 (01:18:40):
I'm gonna tell you right now, signing for two or
three two priorities, urgent priorities on this team. See if
you can sign Bregman and get Kokuchi under con because
a left handed arm who's ramping it up, and after
his success, they will stand in line to sign him.
Speaker 5 (01:18:53):
Yeah, get it while the getting's good.
Speaker 6 (01:18:55):
Yeah, it's getting into the eighty clock Hour continued to
talk about these astros seven one, three, two, two, five,
seven ninety. Also continue to take your calls right here
on the Seawan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:19:05):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
Are you not a tame And let's begin now alcohol?
Speaker 4 (01:19:14):
Yeah cow on Sports Talk seven nineties.
Speaker 6 (01:19:20):
Oh, let's star with Steve.
Speaker 5 (01:19:25):
Steve.
Speaker 14 (01:19:25):
Good morning, well, good morning. Thanks for taking my call.
I appreciate it. I'm fairly disappointed about the Astros, but hey,
I'm looking forward to next year. I think they're going
to do really, really well. What I was calling about
is I am confused about them failing to steal bases
when there's you know, zero outs one out, there's a
(01:19:47):
runner on first, I would think that we've got so
many players are fast they ought to take a chance,
because otherwise are six setting up for a double play
almost automatically. That's one scenario. In the second scenario, when
you've got runners on first and second, you know that
(01:20:10):
the chances of a double play exist quite a bit.
Why not just do a double steal if there's less
than two alps because they can only get one of
them and may may advance a guy to third. I
don't know. I mean, when you've got runners on first
and third with zero to one ouse, why not have
the guy on first just a little jog the second
face to try to get them put them out while
(01:20:31):
the guy on third try to steal home plates to
be stolen on vice Harper. You know Paya did it
on the foul ball, And I just don't understand why
we've got so many people that are fast, but they
do this, do this crab walk thing rather than being
looking like a sprinter. As soon as the cleachs leave
the ground. On the picture's cleachs leave the ground.
Speaker 17 (01:20:54):
So that's it.
Speaker 14 (01:20:55):
Just want to have that explanation. Thank you, Thank you.
Speaker 6 (01:20:57):
Steve We're gonna keep it rolling here on the phone line.
People that want to get in biscuit. What's up.
Speaker 24 (01:21:03):
Top of the morning. My brother, say, Sean Belima.
Speaker 12 (01:21:07):
You know I was a guy that.
Speaker 35 (01:21:08):
Said World Series of busts and uh. But Sean, if
you want to be fair, man, I think Dana Brown
and the manager did a job this year.
Speaker 11 (01:21:19):
Man.
Speaker 35 (01:21:20):
Sometimes it's not your year.
Speaker 7 (01:21:21):
Man.
Speaker 35 (01:21:22):
There's just so many injuries, so many you know things
you know I don't. I don't know how you had
your best hitter going into the series dragging his old leg,
you know what I mean? You had enough one of
your other best hitters missed.
Speaker 18 (01:21:35):
Two or three months, You had two or.
Speaker 35 (01:21:37):
Three pictures, had to go get surgery.
Speaker 24 (01:21:40):
You know.
Speaker 15 (01:21:41):
I don't know, Sean.
Speaker 35 (01:21:42):
I think spotted that. I hear people talking. At least
they being consistent like they did Dusty, But don't I
think a spider kept them in the game, especially in the.
Speaker 24 (01:21:52):
First game, by its moving people around.
Speaker 35 (01:21:54):
I think the thing that Spider is probably his second
guessing itself on is Pressley and Sean, I think that
was the move. Once we got hated, we should have
moved off from Pressley. He to me, he never accepted
the set up role and it's been a problem all year,
and so I think that's a you know, they they
got to move on.
Speaker 24 (01:22:13):
They definitely need a cinterfitter. We said that last year.
Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
The emotions are tough, you know, in regardless of what
we say, how tough we are. But it still hurts,
There's no doubt. And it looked like it affected him
at some point. And I Biscuit, appreciate the great call,
and you're you're right. I think they considering the injuries
and all that, I think they overachieved this year.
Speaker 5 (01:22:30):
Yeah, take everything to consider it an overachieved Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
Yeah, it'll be an off season to get back to
work and enjoy, get some time off and get away
from baseball.
Speaker 5 (01:22:39):
Yeah, didn't worry about that.
Speaker 1 (01:22:40):
Got the whole mon, doctor, There's no question get away
from the first time in a while.
Speaker 5 (01:22:44):
Crazy to think about. Man, let's talk to Rolling Rolling.
Good morning, Good morning guys. Thanks having me on.
Speaker 15 (01:22:50):
I really enjoy your show.
Speaker 5 (01:22:53):
I've been an.
Speaker 15 (01:22:54):
Astrask fan for a long long time, and I know
y'all were talking about home record that they have lost
their last seven home games. John, can you reb the match?
And I can for the Clearsene because to be burning
in May Park because I just amazing how they just.
Speaker 12 (01:23:14):
Can't win at Gold.
Speaker 1 (01:23:15):
Yeah, frustrating.
Speaker 15 (01:23:17):
It's also I don't know if there's any kind of
spat out there of a team that has lost games
at home in the manner in which the Actions have
lost historically. I go back to nineteen eighty when we
had a five to two lead against the Phillies in
the eighth inning with no lion on the bow, lost
that game. I go back to nineteen eighty six when
(01:23:38):
the actually had three to ninhering lead against the Mets
in the ninth inning. They lost that game the brad
Lidge home run where they had the league late in
the game again and they lost. How many times is
this team going to have a lead late in the
game with we have had some of the best closures
in baseball? Do you have Dave Smith, brad Lidge Billy,
(01:24:02):
which we thought was gonna be the best three one
two three combination this year with a bray You and
Presley and Hater and it still didn't work out. I
don't know, is there any kind of stat you can
look up to see how many times a team has
lost at home late in a game, and I think
the ass on the top of the list. Anyway, thanks guys,
it's just very disappointing, Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
Yeah, I imagine you can go to one of those
stat places for yourself, man and look it up. I
would imagine they got a stat for everything. Yeah, frustration,
I get it. I think they overachieved this year. Considering everything,
you'd expect them to close out at home. But I've
also seen some games on the other side in the
last eight years where they've been dramatic wins at home.
We can roll through those, right, But I do get it.
(01:24:45):
We want to win every time. My question is when
did how long did we expect this to last? I
know there's frustration, but considering what happened overachieving this year,
how long did we as fans expect this to last?
Speaker 6 (01:24:56):
Well, I think with the core group together and the
pieces that they had, it eventually, I think a lot
of people thought it was gonna continue.
Speaker 1 (01:25:02):
To go on. Still can I mean, you don't win
eight World Series in a row, you don't the hell
when's the last time somebody went back to back?
Speaker 33 (01:25:11):
Mmmm?
Speaker 5 (01:25:13):
Yankee?
Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
You see my point?
Speaker 5 (01:25:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:25:14):
So, I mean, listen, every single team that we're talking about.
The Dodgers and the Yankees included have been there. The
Astros has just lasted longer. Yeah, so I think they
overachieved this year. But there is something to the frustration
of losing at home in elimination games.
Speaker 6 (01:25:30):
I get a seven straight losses at home during the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:25:35):
Yeah, when you're doing it at the crib, that's a problem. Right, Yeah,
it's not good. That is just not good. All right,
let's get the break.
Speaker 6 (01:25:42):
We'll keep on taking your call seven one three, two
one two five, seven to ninety talking about the Astros
losing to the Tigers. That's next on Sports Talk seven ninety.

(01:26:45):
Hitters House dot com slash Houston for more information comes swing.
Like the pros at Hitters House Houston were the Shawn
Salisbury show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
I mean, I know it's not their style, and they
they're prose pros. They got a style, good style, good,
yeah good, But you're just thinking they'll be very delete right,
That's what it is.
Speaker 20 (01:27:06):
Dog.
Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
We got to have four hours of the money maker, right.
I'm not talking about making it, I know, but just
a face, the face. Yeah, you gotta see the fit too. Yeah,
Oh is there any doubt? Yeah, your people in the trip.
Your people got to know that you're wearing a Bruins
hat today.
Speaker 5 (01:27:18):
They ain't yellow.
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
That's a cuss work. I don't wear U C l
A stuff. Never had a Yankee hat, Never had a
UCLA that's my favorite. You know, people go by Yankee hats.
Why are they the fashion connoisseur? Have you ever noticed
when people buy the New York Yankee hat? It is
a fan, it's a fashion thing. It one hundred and
it's not fashionable enough for me. I won't.
Speaker 6 (01:27:37):
I have one of my college roommates and teammates and
actually a really close friend of mine still.
Speaker 5 (01:27:41):
He lives in Australia. He's he's from Australia.
Speaker 6 (01:27:44):
And one of the things that he when he came
here for baseball in college, he had a Yankee set
and I was like, dude, what are you doing? And
of course he's a baseball guy, so he fashioned so
he followed the Yankees. But he was like, yeah, man,
people people of in Australia, they don't wear it. They
have no idea who the Yankees are. They just wear
because they think it looks cool. Yeah you had a
camera on that where yeah yeah, but no, But I
(01:28:07):
just know I don't ever cuss at me like that.
I respect UCLA, but I ain't wearing a UCLA hat ever,
it's only a few.
Speaker 1 (01:28:13):
I'm a hat guy, as you know, I ain't wearing
U C l A. Then I don't wear Yankee hats. Yeah,
just won't. Okay, I respect him, but it's just not
for me. You don't respect UCLA and I wouldn't either.
I do too. They played good against I respected them,
we played him back in the day. I like him,
then respect the respect them. But I'm not Jersey exchanging
it at the end of a game or hugging a
(01:28:33):
guy after he hits a two run double at second game.
Speaker 6 (01:28:36):
I'm kind of saying you didn't wear your your Marith
do Bond Jersey, why don't you wear it this week?
Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
I've decided to just I shlved it till the till spring. Okay, yeah,
who Bond Season's over, Blumber, Let's talk to Brian.
Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
What's happening to Brian? Appreciate your holding.
Speaker 20 (01:28:53):
Hey, good morning, guys.
Speaker 36 (01:28:54):
Uh, tough loss yesterday, but that's what happens when you
get teams that are on fire and playing well down
the stretch. I mean, like you guys said, look at
the Royals, I mean came out of no you know,
they were limping to get in the playoffs.
Speaker 20 (01:29:07):
But they've been playing playoff.
Speaker 36 (01:29:09):
Baseball for the last month, trying to make the playoffs.
Speaker 20 (01:29:13):
And when you get these short series.
Speaker 36 (01:29:15):
And youthing can happen, and it does, and when you
face a guy like Scooball you have to be even
more perfect in game two. And you know, like y'all said,
how long did you expect the Alcs run to last?
Speaker 20 (01:29:27):
And I from where this team was on what was
June fifteenth, that's where they are now.
Speaker 36 (01:29:33):
He has not the ultimate goal. But considering you were
holding your your pitching staff together with deb tape and
bailing wire for half the season until Arraghetty and Hunter
Brown got right, you know you did a whale of
a job. Considering eighty percent of your twenty twenty two
World Series rotation was on the IL for ninety percent
(01:29:56):
of the year, So.
Speaker 20 (01:29:59):
Whale of a job. I was there yesterday.
Speaker 36 (01:30:01):
You know, everybody's upset at Presley. The guy had converted
sixteen straight saves in the postseason. He was going to
make a mistake. It just sucks that it happened yesterday.
But looking forward to next year, I think the big
question on Bregman as is where do you see Bryce
Matthews as your future? Because if you see him as
your future third baseman, I don't think you need Bregman.
Speaker 20 (01:30:24):
I think you can go get somebody like.
Speaker 36 (01:30:25):
An au Henneo Suarez for one or two years and
plug him in while you're grooming.
Speaker 20 (01:30:33):
Bryce Matthews to come up.
Speaker 36 (01:30:35):
But they got to figure out that first base spot.
If it's gonna be Yiner, he's gotta be there full time.
But then that leaves a huge void at catcher. Keratini
isn't a full time guy, so you're gonna have to
figure that out. And you know, I think they should
re sign Jason Hayward because he's that Michael Brantley type
of player and leader in the clubhouse that you lost
(01:30:57):
and you didn't have for most of the year.
Speaker 20 (01:31:00):
Bregman has kind of turned into that guy, but.
Speaker 36 (01:31:03):
Especially if you lose him, Altube isn't that that type
of character, and I think Jason Hayward would kind of
provide some of that calm, stable, Michael Brantley type professionalism
that just exudes throughout the clubhouse.
Speaker 20 (01:31:18):
So if you can, I.
Speaker 36 (01:31:20):
Don't think you can expect much out of Garcia and
or Kedi next year, just because that's that's gonna be
post All Star Break if you get them back at
all Garcia hopefully, I don't expect Lance mccullors.
Speaker 20 (01:31:32):
To give you anything. Anything he gives.
Speaker 36 (01:31:34):
You is gonna be gravy, but I'm expecting nothing out
of that. But what also intrigues me is you got
a guy like Penn Murphy coming back hopefully, Kevin Braveman.
Speaker 6 (01:31:42):
Hey, Brian, we got we gotta Hey, Brian, we got
a couple of guys we gotta get in. We appreciate
the call, hate to cut you off. We got guys waiting. Mauricio,
good morning.
Speaker 37 (01:31:50):
Hey, good morning, guys.
Speaker 24 (01:31:52):
What's hap?
Speaker 37 (01:31:52):
I just just wanna actually just want to touch on
my favorite part of the season. I'm gonna say it
was the stretch leading into the tread Dave trade deadline,
all the emotions when Lo Brafito got traded, and then
Kakuchi's first game with you know, eleven strikeouts with three
point one e r a it was just you know,
(01:32:14):
that was that kind of gave us a new momentum
going into that second part of the season, but you know,
fizzled out at the very end. So I just want
to say thank you for a good season on the
Astros and look forward to Texans and Rockets with y'all appreciated.
Speaker 5 (01:32:31):
Mauricio.
Speaker 6 (01:32:31):
Yeah, rocket season a couple weeks away from starting to
continue on the phone line.
Speaker 1 (01:32:35):
We will hammer the Rockets and they hammer in a
good way. I mean yeah, Rockets and Texans all season long.
Speaker 5 (01:32:40):
Damn right, we will. Robert got about a minute for you, buddy.
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (01:32:44):
Yeah, I just want to say, what a year? What
a long year.
Speaker 38 (01:32:48):
I feel like Jose Bray, you played with the Killer
Bees back in the day. That was a long It
just feels like a long time ago. But I'm thankful
for what Jim Crane has provided. I'm thankful he'll try
to make break and work, but I'm also thankful for
his business acumen. He won't overpay and he'll he'll look
at all the moves. I'm excited about the moves and
(01:33:09):
the off season. But man, what's so great about sports?
And why I have a pit my stomach is sports
is a mystery, like that Hayward hit in Game one,
if it's if you got five feet either way we're talking,
we win game one, and uh, it's just it's sports
is crazy, and that's why it's so great.
Speaker 2 (01:33:31):
It's hard.
Speaker 38 (01:33:32):
But the wind makes the losses think, but the wins
are good.
Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
I'm saying.
Speaker 38 (01:33:36):
I'm kind of saying a lot of cliches, but what
I do want to say, and I wasn't gonna say
this till someone just said it, or y'all said, y'all
need to be on Space City in the morning, for sure. Guys,
I'd get Fubo for that for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:33:48):
And uh, that's all.
Speaker 1 (01:33:51):
That's all I really got.
Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
Man, Thank y'all, Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:33:53):
Robert, appreciate you.
Speaker 33 (01:33:54):
Robert.
Speaker 1 (01:33:55):
Yeah, all four hours of the morning would be.
Speaker 5 (01:33:57):
Nice, be great, be awesome, flooded?
Speaker 6 (01:34:03):
Uh what what what were we saying a couple of
weeks ago, Tripley no cap on a stack for real?
Speaker 5 (01:34:07):
For real, that's what That's what you were saying.
Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
That's why Why.
Speaker 5 (01:34:12):
Why did you look at him?
Speaker 1 (01:34:13):
Why did you look at me when you said it?
Because me and Tripley agreed on no cap on a stack?
Speaker 6 (01:34:18):
Yeah, no cap on a stack for real, Ferd And
that's no cap. Guys, are you ever gonna just pick
a team?
Speaker 5 (01:34:25):
Pick a team?
Speaker 1 (01:34:25):
We have all of us. That's got to be racist team. Wow,
you're the guy that if you, I mean you fat shamed.
And we call the race transformers. That's transformers, isn't it
robots in disguise?
Speaker 5 (01:34:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:34:40):
Yeahs robots in disguise. Man, it's a it's a tough
sledding for you.
Speaker 11 (01:34:47):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:34:48):
Bryce Matthews, just real quick, because we get ready to
go to break. Bryce Matthews is going to be the future.
He will be a future infielder for the Astros. I
don't think he's gonna take Jeremy Penion spot. I don't
think he's ready to step up and take the third
base spot Ifgment does not come back. But he will
be eventually one of your best infielders because that kid
is unbelievable, really good player. Yeah, just got it up
to Triple A about a month. Agomendously bright future upside galore.
(01:35:10):
They got some talented prospects down there. They just won
the national championship in the Triple A, so they got
some good dudes down there.
Speaker 5 (01:35:16):
Man, No cap yeah, no, cap on a stack for real,
for real.
Speaker 1 (01:35:18):
Cut.
Speaker 5 (01:35:20):
That's got to be racist.
Speaker 1 (01:35:23):
It's called culture, man, which you care to call culture triples?
That's got to be racist. Okay, I mean if you're
the lights too bright racist, it's got to be. I
don't know, is it everything, it's gotta be No, Yeah,
(01:35:43):
that too bright? Turn them off?
Speaker 19 (01:35:48):
Turn them off.
Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
Let's go ready, turn off the lights.
Speaker 5 (01:35:54):
Lights are too bright?
Speaker 1 (01:35:54):
October that that young naive team in Detroit, they weren't
too bright? Were the same with Kansas City man, Yeah,
good on them though they looked for me, considering how
the asters have been. Do you know, look, I'm gonna
say this as we go to break, do you know
how satisfying a win that had to be for aj
hinch Man. I don't care. He'll probably never admit it
(01:36:16):
to the media. Mattered more than if they'd have wanted
at home, mattered more to him, in my opinion, if
they don't, if they don't want it here, this win here,
in this series here mattered more on the road than
it would have if he'd have wanted in Detroit, not
even close. No disrespect to Detroit fans, great sports sit down.
I'm just talking and fans. I'm just talking about there's
(01:36:38):
a satisfaction, not a grudge, of satisfaction that says I
got to come back home with the guys I know
and do it like that.
Speaker 5 (01:36:44):
Yeah, more satisfaction, I think guaranteed.
Speaker 6 (01:36:47):
I am on the side that Bob Manfred Robert Manfred,
Rob Manfred, Bobby Bobby. I firmly believe, this is my opinion,
that he went to aj or excuse me, he went
to Jim Crane during the whole science stealing scandal and
basically said, if you do not fire your manager and
general manager, I am stripping the title away from you guys.
(01:37:08):
So I think Jim Crane at that point had to
make a business decision and had to fire Jim Crane,
excuse me, AJ Hinch and Jeff Luno. However, I still
think he could have suspended him for a year and
brought him back just like the Red Sox did when
they brought back Alex Corros so forth and so on.
But for him to be fired, be out of baseball,
come back with the Tigers team do what they did
this year they were sellers at the deadline, and to
(01:37:30):
come back to mid and May Park in the playoffs
and beat this Astros team. That has got to be
for a J. Hinch, probably some of the most satisfying
wins in his career.
Speaker 1 (01:37:40):
Aside from winning a World Series. That's probably as satisfying
as it gets. Yeah, and considering where they were right
Scooble was on the trade of the second block. Yes,
and he's gonna win the Triple crowns. Yeah, pitching saw Young. Oh,
there's absolutely no doubt about it. Good for him, bummer.
So when's Jeff Luno get back in.
Speaker 5 (01:37:56):
I don't think he wants to come back in. I
know which which is a baseball loss?
Speaker 1 (01:38:00):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
I agree. The guy knows baseball, Yeah, no question about it.
He can. He knows how to architect the team.
Speaker 39 (01:38:05):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:38:05):
Yeah, he really does right here, still in front of us. Yes,
it is a big, big part of it.
Speaker 5 (01:38:09):
That's uh.
Speaker 6 (01:38:09):
We'll continue to discuss the Astros next on Sports Talk
seven night.
Speaker 2 (01:38:13):
You're back.
Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
This is the Sewn Salisbury shown.
Speaker 2 (01:38:16):
You bet at it.
Speaker 5 (01:38:19):
I got to the phone lines, Victor. What's happening?
Speaker 27 (01:38:22):
How you doing?
Speaker 16 (01:38:23):
Man?
Speaker 17 (01:38:23):
Good morning, Good.
Speaker 5 (01:38:24):
Morning from the text Defenders, weather go ahead.
Speaker 32 (01:38:28):
Everything all right?
Speaker 9 (01:38:30):
Uh.
Speaker 27 (01:38:31):
I was born in the streets of New Orleans, and
I found the Astrols way back when. Uh, when I
first game I went to when the Astros played the
Cincinnati Reds and they beat him in the Astrodome and Jim.
Speaker 2 (01:38:44):
Ray saved the game for him.
Speaker 27 (01:38:46):
Fair Gladden with the setup band and Don Wilson was
pitching for the Astrols. And I also saw no hitter
by Kim Forsch in the Astrodome and then Georgh Springer
hitting them three home runs and minute me and uh,
it go on and on. But it was a good
year for the Astrols this year. And also when I
(01:39:07):
was in New Orleans, I won't know, can you play
Born to Be Alive? By Patrick Hernandez?
Speaker 1 (01:39:13):
Now that that was that.
Speaker 27 (01:39:16):
Was badass in New Orleans. But uh, I said it
was great, great for the Astros, and uh nixt year,
it's gonna get better. And I also called a lot
of road games for the Astrols Seattle, Denver, UH, Cleveland,
(01:39:37):
h Kansas City. I call a lot of road games
with the Astuls. So it's gonna be good next year.
Speaker 6 (01:39:43):
For appreciate the call of Victor if we can get that,
uh a little request in the nine o'clock hour for him.
Speaker 5 (01:39:49):
U let's get out to Bill Bill. Good morning, Holy count.
Speaker 39 (01:39:53):
With this music, I have never felt more white in
my entire life and than today. Uh, Sean, going going
back this up that you said earlier, way back in
the first hour.
Speaker 1 (01:40:06):
By the way, you are really white. So go ahead,
you know I'm very.
Speaker 10 (01:40:12):
What does it go?
Speaker 39 (01:40:13):
Uh, astro Fans, I know you're feeling bad, but Sean,
you mentioned the Orioles this morning in the in the
six o'clock hour.
Speaker 20 (01:40:23):
Look at what they've done.
Speaker 39 (01:40:25):
They have won one ninety two games the last two
years and they are over for nothing in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (01:40:32):
In that stretch.
Speaker 1 (01:40:33):
Absolutely. Like I said, feeling miserable this morning, yep.
Speaker 20 (01:40:39):
I think I think they are.
Speaker 39 (01:40:41):
They have developed the Oriel slowly into the biggest regular
season fraud in baseball. They pile up wins, pile up wins,
make the playoffs, and then fall in their face.
Speaker 5 (01:40:55):
And my point is, astro Fans, I'm not.
Speaker 39 (01:40:57):
Trying to say you've been spoiled, but you've had a
pretty good run. Let's let's appreciate what you've done. I
know it's sad today, I get the whole nine yards,
but nobody in baseball has done anything close to what
Houston's done in the last eight years, and just take
a look look back at the big picture. They'll they
got they got poles to fill. You're right, they got
(01:41:19):
stuff to do. They gotta figure out to do with Bregman.
What are you gonna do with Presley? What are you
gonna do with first base? There, they'll figure it out.
And Biscuit was right. Without Dana Brown and without Joe Espada,
you're not playing this week.
Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
So that's all I got to say.
Speaker 5 (01:41:33):
Guys, Thank you, Bill.
Speaker 1 (01:41:35):
Yeah, they weren't playing without Kokuchi's part of the data
brown stuff. Bill, good point.
Speaker 6 (01:41:38):
I got a more important question for you, Sean. Yeah,
why is it only nine yards? The whole nine yards?
Why not ten yards? Yeah, you know, give them the
whole nine yards? Why not ten Hit the machine? Hit
the machine? Why it's they'll get in the whole nine yards.
You're gonna enjoy this one. I've looked this up before.
Speaker 5 (01:42:02):
Hmmm.
Speaker 6 (01:42:05):
One theory is that it comes from the nautical term yard,
which was a wooden rod connected to a sailing ship's
mass to support its sales.
Speaker 5 (01:42:14):
Is that is that what you're keep going?
Speaker 6 (01:42:16):
I think Another theory is that it comes from world
War II, where nine yards was the length of machine
gun magazines, and soldiers were encouraged to use the whole
nine yards against enemy soldiers.
Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
That's the one. That's the one I didn't know anything about.
The nautical that's the one.
Speaker 11 (01:42:30):
That's some lead.
Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
Yeap. So there you go.
Speaker 5 (01:42:34):
Okay, you said nine yards and nine yards that's a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:42:38):
If you get the whole nine yards on first down,
you're still shy if you're shi first down, right, it
makes right.
Speaker 5 (01:42:43):
I don't want nine yards, give me ten, Give me ten.
Speaker 1 (01:42:45):
There you go. You know right now, Bobby slok is
ranked in the bottom four or five offensive coordinators in
the NFL in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 5 (01:42:52):
Bobby Slovak, Yeah, we'll go hit a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:42:55):
Of Texans as we rolled on, along with the obvious
of the Yeah, the the Rockets as well. But yeah, man,
it's uh, it's great. What brought that on? Because he said, yeah, yeah, uh,
but Baltimore, you talk about miserable the expectations for them
last two years and they can't sniffle win yep in
(01:43:15):
the postseason.
Speaker 6 (01:43:18):
Then all those basic white dudes on that roster, to
all those white frat dude looking mub you know, looking mu. Yeah,
they got like nine of them. Yeah, well they Runner Skuyler.
Speaker 1 (01:43:30):
Well the reason they the reason, the reason they lost.
Do you know why they lost basic ones? You know
they they got a big bender with a couple of
sorority houses. Fraternity house. Get there. Yeah, it's a three
day bender at the Santa Barbara Fraternity sorority all looking dude,
Adle Ryan Jordan. They all have like Runner, they all
(01:43:53):
have Jackson, they have all labs like they spent They
spend their summers with later. I mean, come on, went
hot with topsiders at the at the man Port, Rhode Island.
Speaker 6 (01:44:04):
Ryan O'Hearn, I mean, come on, dude, that's the frat
VP right there. But it was a VP of Sigma
Kai at some point in his life, that's no doubt.
Speaker 1 (01:44:12):
At some point. Every single one of them has worn
a sweater vest. It's like got thet Yeah, it's got
one of those like the diamonds on the the No,
but they they're not diamonds on the red, but they're
like on the sweater vest. They're like, you know, the
the design of a they look like what is that
called not the hounds tooth. I don't know, that's what
(01:44:32):
their sports coat looks at but oh they've all worn
they all wear seersucker suits in the summertime. Good seersucker
suit with some white uh, with some white buck shoes. Oh,
there's no doubt they're in the Rhode Island. And then
when they play their wiffle ball in the back of
the yard, they're like they're they're they're.
Speaker 6 (01:44:50):
Into it, right, it's like just it's like it's like
that's their world series rather than the playoffs.

We get that.
Speaker 5 (01:46:32):
Yeah, let's do that.
Speaker 20 (01:46:33):
Let's keep it.
Speaker 5 (01:46:33):
Chris, everybody, Angel, You're up first.
Speaker 1 (01:46:37):
It was good morning, guys.
Speaker 11 (01:46:38):
I just got it.
Speaker 40 (01:46:38):
I just want to say congratulations. I mean, the Astros
made it as far as they did.
Speaker 20 (01:46:42):
But look, guys, I'm gonna be honest with yall.
Speaker 40 (01:46:43):
How do y'all feel about Estrada man? Let's I've been
weighing it in my mind because if we put a
Strata on.
Speaker 41 (01:46:50):
As from let's just say some of them from I
love that show. Eric Strata, Yeah, Eric Joe Strada the
manager man Spata or Spot. Yeah, sorry about that.
Speaker 40 (01:47:04):
Let's put him on an average team, like how Boston
did eighty one and eighty one of the season.
Speaker 8 (01:47:08):
Tampa Bay was eighty and eighty two.
Speaker 40 (01:47:10):
Astros were such a good team and they were still
able to get a spot.
Speaker 20 (01:47:15):
Or whatever Joe to the playoffs.
Speaker 12 (01:47:17):
Right, if you put.
Speaker 40 (01:47:18):
Joe on any of those teams, I guarantee you, man,
they wouldn't have had the records they had. They would
have been so far below five hundred it would have
been unreal, Like, for instance, the team when they took
Hunter Brown off the mound. Did you not see the
look Hunter Brown had in the dugout after Estrada did
that or a Spotted did that, or even whenever he
pulled Presley off the mound, how upset Presley was? And
(01:47:41):
to start and to start Jake Myers over Hayward, Like,
how do y'all feel about that?
Speaker 2 (01:47:46):
Man?
Speaker 40 (01:47:46):
Y'all don't do y'all not feel like Hayward probably should
have got to start in Game one over Myers, Like
how do y'all feel about that?
Speaker 5 (01:47:53):
Thank you Angel for me, Sean.
Speaker 6 (01:47:56):
I would have liked to see either Chas McCormick or
Marisio do On in center field and Jason Hey, we're
go get a start in left field. I'm just not
a Jake Myers fan, and I never have been. He's
a great defensive player, but offensively, he's just the guy.
Speaker 1 (01:48:08):
I guess maybe this bothers me a lot all the time.
I think we rely on analytics too much at times
when you just got to rely on guys to be
good baseball. Analytics matter.
Speaker 5 (01:48:18):
Don't misunderstand me. It's evidence.
Speaker 1 (01:48:20):
I've said that a million times. I don't know. Maybe
it bears maybe it bears its fruit with all the teams.
If I went through each lineup every day, I don't
know why you can't have four, five, six, seven, eight
straight games with the same lineup.
Speaker 6 (01:48:35):
I don't get it. I think they have like one
hundred and forty seven lineups.
Speaker 1 (01:48:38):
I don't that part. I just don't understand. I don't
need rest in the postseason. I'm just sorry if you do.
I'm just going to tell you right now, if you're
an everyday player and you can't get through the postseason
that extra energy you need rest. Not injury rest or
hurt rest. I'm talking about rest as well. Let's get
him a day or well, he's only hit three times
against this guy and he's three for fifteen. Well, you
(01:49:00):
know what, he may go three for three in this game.
I understand. And over the course of a long time,
I got to run my best out there every day
in the postseason. I don't care if it's lefty on lefty.
No offense is Chas McCormick or Jake Myers hitting right.
Yet left or right is Jake Myers getting you hits
In the first game for the most he dominating at
(01:49:21):
the plate. He's a fine player. I mean he's he's
really good. Defensively, he's an average hitter. My thing is,
for instance, the Hayward in Game one. I don't really
care what analytics tell me. I need my best nine.
I just do. I do. I hope people it's kind
now as you go later in the game, matchup situations,
(01:49:42):
I get it, yep. But I remember growing up, I
never had to worry about the Red's going. Now I
know this in the Cincinnati Reds lineup, considerati, I never
ever had to worry one time when I was watching baseball,
if Bench was catching, if Rose was at you know,
whether he's playing whatever position he was third second when
he played first right at outfield. But with that team,
(01:50:03):
if you had Rose playing third, if you had Concepcion,
you had Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, George Foster, Saesar Geronimo,
Ken Griffy Senior bench behind the plate, and Don Gullet
or Gary Nolan on the mount. With the A's, I
knew it was Gene Tennis, sal Vando, Bert Campanaires, Dick
Green and either Mincher or whoever was either Don Minch
or Mike Epstein at first, Joe Rudy and left, Billy
(01:50:26):
North and center, and Reggie Jackson and right, and whoever
your DH was gonna be. I didn't worry the next
day that oh Vando sitting because he only hit one
eighty five against Don Gullet during the regular season when
they played him three times, even though National League they
didn't play him.
Speaker 5 (01:50:41):
Then you know, times change.
Speaker 1 (01:50:43):
My thing is I understand over the course of a season,
I'm living or dying with my best players. I just
am who do you find more clutch Jason Hayward, McCormick
or Myers. Just regard who's more clutch right now? Who
do you trust more? With all the experience Jason Hayward.
Then why is that not play him every day? Yeah?
I think you get my point. Yeah, And if if
(01:51:04):
we're going by that, then paying you should sit down
against a guy who throws a nice big hook with
a well who you're gonna you see my point?
Speaker 5 (01:51:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
So I get why they do it, but I think
at times you overanalyze and get too cute. Give me
my best nine and I'll use I'll make my replacements
late in the game. Oh, situational hitting in the seventh inning.
I just sometimes think veterans with with stones and their
nizzuts hanging out that have been through it a million times,
regardless of well I struggle against the pitcher? Am I
(01:51:33):
taking on my Ryder Cup team? If a guy doesn't
play good golf at that course. Let's say the Ryder
Cup's at a place at Riviera country Club and he
and he shot eighty there one time, the analytics tell
me didn't play the golf course.
Speaker 5 (01:51:46):
Well, one round?
Speaker 1 (01:51:47):
Yeah, does that mean I'm not I'm not gonna let
him play in the in the four ball round against
the Ryder Cup team, because no, you're gonna want play
tournaments and other other courses.
Speaker 5 (01:51:56):
He's got to play.
Speaker 1 (01:51:58):
I think at times, not just here, everywhere, not everywhere.
A lot of overmanage. Sometimes you just got to put
your best night out there and live with it and
then make changes as the game goes along. But we
pinch it in what ending yesterday fifth? Yeah, something like that,
I think.
Speaker 6 (01:52:14):
And then also I look, I I think there's also
something to be said that they have to execute offensively
and all the runners runners in scoring position that were
left all throughout the season, it was an issue, and
then it reared its head yesterday.
Speaker 5 (01:52:30):
That's why they're home.
Speaker 1 (01:52:32):
Yeah, And I got so much respect and I do
believe they overachieved, but this year because of the injuries.
I do, but you cannot tell me. And I think
that we should. It was. It was a successful season,
but it ended disappointing. Yeah, it's World Series. I mean
you could have expected them to do this, right, Okay,
But I to me, I just think that you did that.
(01:52:57):
Your best players have to be out there and you
got to live or die with it. I I can
stand in front of you and say, I give you
a reason why Jason Hayward would start for me in
those two games. Yeah, I can give you a reason
why al two Vason. I mean, I give you a
reason and if it doesn't work, that's okay. They got
the bat, they got the ball, got to go do it.
And sometimes you have to overcome a guy you've struggled with.
Maybe this is the time, that's the time to do it.
(01:53:18):
And if you can't, then it weakens a roster. It
just does. Yeah, simple fact right there. It's good to break.
We'll continue to take your call. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Joseph Carlos, Michael Marielle will
get to you guys next on Sports Talk seven to.
Speaker 4 (01:53:34):
Eighty Shotgun with someone who's thrown from the shotgun.
Speaker 2 (01:53:41):
Football is what helmet to hammet?
Speaker 4 (01:53:44):
Sean Salisbury, Brian Lolimo, you want.
Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
To see what real football looks like.
Speaker 4 (01:53:49):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:53:57):
Housing this amazing fundraise that makes a huge difference from
guys like Master Smack and all the people who donate.
There's a phenomenal helmet that's up at the live auction
at Jay's House dot org with guys like me and
Joe Green, Hall of famers galore on it. And this
is it's the house is dedicated to finding a new
way to meet the physical and emotional leads of children
in Texas foster care, young men, young boys in foster care.
(01:54:20):
They need it life changing, saving lives with people who care.
So we're gonna raise a lot of money. And yes,
I'm going, I'm working to get in here. I know
times are tough. I'm working to get in your wallet
because sometimes the best thing to do in your life
when times are rough is to immerse yourself in the
service of others. And I'm honored to do this for
(01:54:41):
Jay's House, Jay's House dot org for all the other information,
they're creating a better solution, getting involved. They've got a
great mission statement to bring love, healing and family to
these kids that are in crisis. We have to this
younger generation and these kids in foster care. We have
to give I'm an opportunity to have a successful, happy, healthy,
(01:55:03):
peaceful self esteem field life. And that's exactly what Jay's
House is doing. Jay's House dot Org. Go in there
on that live auction, pop in and come on over
to Spindle Tap Brewery at five thirty Saturday. Spend it time,
stay a little while, stay the whole time. I'm gonna
be up there. I'll I'm seeing it. But I'm also gonna,
you know, raise money through our auction and we're gonna
have a little fun. But also when you walk out
(01:55:26):
of the building, you know you've done right. Every single
dollar in dime help. So I'm gonna try to get
into your wall a little bit the right way for
the right reason. So Jay's House dot Org. I can't
wait Saturday five thirty at Spindle Tap. And for all
who've donated and are a part of this, you guys
are changing lives and making difference for these young boys
in foster care and we need it. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:55:44):
Great, great opportunity right there to give back for sure.
Seven one, three, two, two five, seven ninety's a number
to join. Mary Ellen.
Speaker 4 (01:55:51):
Good morning, Yes, good morning.
Speaker 42 (01:55:55):
Well I'm gonna do my minute in a half and
I'm gonna let you get to the next people who
have something real to say. So this is a Sean
First of all, congratulations, you're right up there with mile
O Hamilton, my buddy who I used to visit within Kassimi.
It's a game of it's a game of inures. You're
putting on a fantastic show. And I say some days chicken,
(01:56:15):
some day's feathers. So I would go to spring training.
I grew up as a New York Yankee fan. Then
I was a New York Astros fan from the eighties,
and now I've been just an Astros fan. So me
and my three girlfriends.
Speaker 25 (01:56:28):
We would go.
Speaker 42 (01:56:28):
My girlfriend just turned one hundred or it came to
her birthday party last month, and I sat at the
game with her and watched it on her TV at
Holly Hall, and we were Garner's girls, coops chicks, AJ's way,
Baker's babes. And because I didn't get many much mojo,
I just said, Joe knows. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:56:48):
There you go.
Speaker 42 (01:56:50):
Honestly, I believe that Baker inherited AJ's teen. That's why
we won twenty seventeen. Okay, when you saw the tiger
last night, it was AJ his glory, beautiful person. He
told them you be furious, fearless, and fun, and that's
what we were in twenty seventeen. But you know where
(01:57:12):
the buck stops and the buck starts, It starts at
the top. So Crane, he let Cora go, He let
our bench coach go. He didn't rehire AJ and I
got it. Hey, you know what, the apple doesn't fall
far from the tree.
Speaker 20 (01:57:27):
Okay.
Speaker 42 (01:57:28):
So there's a heart and soul of every team. The
New York Yankees had Willie Randolph, I grew up with him.
The Astros have out do it and maddingly these are
rock stars.
Speaker 5 (01:57:42):
Thank you, Marion. Just to be clear, the start fire
AJ Hinch, Yeah there.
Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
I think she knows that, but boy she she. I
mean that's some dedication and talking about kissing me Florida
and uh huh uh Mary Ellen, they heard a girlfrid.
Since you're celebrating, what a great run, Mary Ellen, thank you,
thanks for the compliment.
Speaker 5 (01:58:01):
Carlos, you're up next. Good morning, Hey, good.
Speaker 19 (01:58:03):
Morning, guys, thank you. I think we're all in a
state of shock here in Corpus Christy as well.
Speaker 1 (01:58:08):
We followed the Astros.
Speaker 19 (01:58:09):
We have the Corpus Christy hooks down here, so we
see them going through the system and then eventually going
up to Sugarland and then to Houston as well. And
I think all of us are in a state of shock.
I think all of us and of course the people
that hate us, you know, saying hey, say good night
to the bad guy, you know, This was a season
(01:58:33):
of everything that was reliable was unreliable in twenty twenty four.
Everything that we knew work did not work. So they
were always pivoting and trying to figure out a way
to win, and they did. There was a lot of uncertainties.
We didn't know who this coach was, you know, we
were used to Baker. There was this brightman thing flying
(01:58:54):
over us as well, not knowing if he's going to stay,
he's not going to stay. A lot of uncertainties were
this year, and we squandered way too many opportunities for
us not to get people in and everybody trying to
Monday morning quarterback and say we could have, we should have,
we should have done this, and I think we put
the best team that we possibly can. But you know,
(01:59:15):
make it a huge reassurance to everybody. There's no way
that this organization or the fan base will accept anything
other than getting to the playoffs every year, just like
the Yankees have done all these years and the Dodgers,
and they expect the best of the best. We are
not squandering well three or four years and say, well,
you know we're not gonna make up.
Speaker 5 (01:59:36):
Thank you, Carlos Roland.
Speaker 1 (01:59:38):
They did make the playoffs, and I'm not in shock,
is I think overboard, I'm not in shock. I didn't
want to play the Tigers coming into three games here.
This is who they've been all year, the inconsistent part
of it. I'm not shocked. It's been a hell of
an eight year run and it's not done.
Speaker 5 (01:59:53):
Yeah, the windows still open.
Speaker 1 (01:59:56):
Joseph, good morning, he Joseph, you're on everybody.
Speaker 43 (02:00:02):
Okay, listen, I'm serious about this year. I never thought
that had her and Pressed cumbination.
Speaker 17 (02:00:11):
Was gonna will never never award.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
I filed that way.
Speaker 43 (02:00:14):
And they turn out I was right, it would happen yesterday,
you know. And one more, one more question than what
to ask you? Do you think you're gonna sign Heywood,
Berkman and and Singleton next year?
Speaker 11 (02:00:28):
Next year?
Speaker 8 (02:00:29):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (02:00:30):
Thank you?
Speaker 6 (02:00:31):
Uh yeah, Josh hatter Ter, Joe Joe Estrada, Alex Breckman,
Hater's under contract.
Speaker 5 (02:00:40):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (02:00:41):
I ain't going anywhere a lot of money, and it's
guaranteed money. He'll be your closer next year, I would.
Jason Hayward would be great. I don't know what there's things.
I think Singleton's a good guy to have on your roster.
I think they're probably gonna look for an everyday first
baseman if they don't feel like he's on the roster,
and I think they're gonna look for some other things.
Speaker 5 (02:00:57):
So Singleton's got arbitration.
Speaker 1 (02:01:00):
Yeah, he's not going anywhere. So the question is as
far as Bregman goes, that's gonna be between Bregman, Crane
and Dana Brown and.
Speaker 5 (02:01:08):
Scotty Scott Morris.
Speaker 1 (02:01:09):
Yeah, Scotty, I know we wanted back, but I don't
know where that money's gonna fall into place. I don't either.
Speaker 5 (02:01:15):
Michael got about forty five seconds for you mail.
Speaker 44 (02:01:17):
What's up, hey, guys, I just wanted to cap off
this season first of all, really like listening to you guys,
big fans.
Speaker 5 (02:01:24):
Thank you appreciating me.
Speaker 44 (02:01:26):
Yeah, man, just you know, I think, you know, we
got to the playoffs, but you know, we really, you know,
we barely got there. You know, we were relying on
guys that were DFA and clutch moments, and you know,
I think that's just not how you want to win
ball games. I think next year, you know, we're going.
Speaker 11 (02:01:43):
To have a new group coming up.
Speaker 44 (02:01:44):
I think this year, with all the injuries, they gave
us an opportunity to see who we have in the
farm system. So you know, I think that you know Arraghetti,
you know Whitcomb Descenzo.
Speaker 20 (02:01:55):
I think these guys will mature another year, and I.
Speaker 11 (02:01:57):
Think we'll be back.
Speaker 29 (02:01:58):
Man.
Speaker 11 (02:01:58):
I don't think this is the.
Speaker 44 (02:02:01):
And also, Sean, I was in ocean Side over the
summer and I made my way to.
Speaker 1 (02:02:08):
That's my guy. You made it through the mean streets, Michael.
You made through the mean streets escoing ocean Side where
my pops grew up. One of the great fish if
you'd like, do you like a cod and the fish
dip it in nice tartar so some of the best
fish on the planet right there by the ocean side pier. Michael,
I'm glad you went to the mainstre I'm glad you
(02:02:29):
made it back safe. Found he rolled through the main
streets when you got to go to Nordstrom and Starbucks.
It is tough. See you guys got the miss but
you think the main streets are all about You think
it's country club. Yeah, they got bars on the windows
at Nordstrom.
Speaker 5 (02:02:45):
I mean now probably yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:02:47):
Ocean Side. I hope he went to Grouses Sound Shop,
best sounds in the country. If you roll through, you.
Speaker 5 (02:02:56):
Come with me.
Speaker 1 (02:02:56):
I got you, Okay, Yeah, I don't want I don't
want you tripley to get hurt. You know that's a
tough I mean ducking like you think you hear a
sound they got duck.
Speaker 5 (02:03:04):
They got good cold cuts at of ruses or no.
Speaker 1 (02:03:07):
Yeah, but you want the hot sandiches. Oh, of course,
I'm telling you, brother, you want it is. I'm telling
you it will. It will rock your world. And if
you're there without me, you might get your world rock anyway.
Yea frigging as Yeah, you don't want that mean street
to Esco.
Speaker 7 (02:03:23):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (02:03:24):
Tough huh.
Speaker 1 (02:03:25):
I mean sounds like I should be giving a presidential speech. Big.
Speaker 5 (02:03:30):
Yeah. I grew up in the middle class.
Speaker 6 (02:03:31):
You did. Hey, look listen, I grew up in the
middle class. Okay, it's all that's That's what's gonna fix everything,
my knucklehead right question seven one, three, two five seven.
I will keep it rolling right here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Second Annual Kobe Steven's Charity Golf Classic Monday,
November eleventh, and it's gonna benefit Intrepid Care. Intrepid Care
(02:03:56):
is a nonprofit organization created to empower veterans through nature
and sport. It's at Intrepid Care. Their mission is to
ignite transformation. They believe that nature heals, camaraderie strengthens, and
friendships blossom when veterans step into the great outdoors. The
funds raised at this charity tournament are gonna support multiple
programs taking veterans, service members, first responders, or their families
(02:04:17):
on outdoor activities like hunting and fishing trips, supports sports
activities as well as provide financial support. Last year at
the Kobe Stevens Golf Tournament, the charity tournament it was,
the goal was to raise twenty thousand dollars and they
achieved it and more. This year they set the goal
at thirty thousand dollars. They want to write a big
fat check to Intrepid Care to support those veterans and
(02:04:38):

The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. I guess we're gonna do
some rapid fire.
Speaker 1 (02:05:16):
I'm giving him thirty seconds to make a point. I
want to see if they could be a sideline reporter. Okay,
here we go, give me thirty seconds. Back to the
play by play. Guy, Ready, see what you got?
Speaker 5 (02:05:24):
Vince, you're up first.
Speaker 45 (02:05:27):
Hey, I just want to first of all, good morning, guys.
Speaker 5 (02:05:30):
Morning.
Speaker 45 (02:05:32):
I was I thought about this the other day. Why
is it Jordan Alpare is our first baseman? And uh,
because I don't think he's that good in left field?
And why not just get Jason Heyward co get somebody
else to play left field?
Speaker 6 (02:05:50):
Appreciate Evince, Well, it's doctor Garrett Garrett's happening.
Speaker 46 (02:05:59):
Hey, guys, you know this year it seems like we
were down in runs and then we were I would
say a little deficient and on base percentage. What I
would ask them to do is upgrade. You know some
free agents, you know that they could come in and
bring in and and really boost that on base percentage
(02:06:20):
because it seems like, you know, wit Maryfield, bring in
a ti Oscar Hernandez for for outfield, maybe even a
Cody Bellinger again, because they're all free agents. I think
I think players like that would help. If Brayman Bregman leaves,
you know, there's some other people out there, so uh, anyway,
that's what I want to see.
Speaker 1 (02:06:39):
Thank you, Garrett. Great to talk to you. Garrett, and
your dun is probably never gonna play. He's not playing
first base. He's not happening. Brandon, good morning, good morning.
How are you.
Speaker 5 (02:06:49):
We're good Brandon. What's on your mind?
Speaker 9 (02:06:51):
Good astras for the next year.
Speaker 1 (02:06:56):
M h.
Speaker 6 (02:07:00):
Come on, Brandon, come on, come on baby, we got fifteen.
Speaker 5 (02:07:02):
Seconds for you.
Speaker 26 (02:07:03):
Did we know who were gonna be playing first base?
Speaker 1 (02:07:07):
No?
Speaker 5 (02:07:08):
We do not, not yet? Sure, don't okay?
Speaker 6 (02:07:11):
All right, Brandon, have a goo day, buddy, Let's keep
it going. Stark Toff, good morning, man.
Speaker 42 (02:07:17):
You guys are knuckleheads.
Speaker 14 (02:07:19):
I don't know how you're celebrating me my dog and
I listen to you every day preseason, every single day.
Speaker 24 (02:07:27):
My dog's thrown up.
Speaker 15 (02:07:28):
We're said, we're depressed.
Speaker 33 (02:07:30):
I don't know what to do.
Speaker 14 (02:07:32):
You guys are not offering any count.
Speaker 1 (02:07:34):
Well, well, yes we are, Yes we are. We're actually
trying to help you get through it, to see the
other side of the light. The world's not in in.
Your dog's not dying, and you're gonna be okay, okay,
And I you know what, neither none of us are
on the face? Is he okay? Is he thrown up
because of the loss or because you fed him something back?
What'd you do, Sophie? Thrown up? Then that's on you.
Well guess what. Listen to you and we're so grateful
(02:07:57):
for you, And you know what, are you to go
drink a beer at home? There you go celebrate. Listen
to us talk football and basketball and Astros offseason. It's
gonna be okay. They've had a hell of a run
and they'll be back. And it was disappointing. But though
I promised that it's gonna this sun's gonna shine to
Marrow's gonna ninety one day, you're gonna be hot as balls. Son,
(02:08:21):
do what you do what your dog would do? Nothing, clearly,
here's what you do today. Just MLA when your dog
does not to throw up part. But you know that
thing about balls, why they do because they can give
it a try.
Speaker 33 (02:08:39):
Ryan, Ryan, Hello, hey guys, Hey, hey, I'm here. First
of all, great show, love this you guys in the morning.
A couple of things you guys mentioned yesterday. You know
you said Hunter Brown needed the ten double digit k's
to get to that game.
Speaker 1 (02:08:55):
Well he was on fire.
Speaker 33 (02:08:56):
He had nine k's one pitch away from have a
scoreless game with them on the mound.
Speaker 5 (02:09:05):
Was phenomenal.
Speaker 33 (02:09:05):
Second thing is second thing A J.
Speaker 32 (02:09:08):
Hinch played a J.
Speaker 1 (02:09:09):
Hinch ball.
Speaker 33 (02:09:10):
We did this in my Juco days playing for the championship.
They did one for one a pitcher every inning to
match up with the batters. The batters want to get
comfortable and and they.
Speaker 5 (02:09:21):
Pretty much excited.
Speaker 1 (02:09:23):
Yep, right, ye, great job.
Speaker 33 (02:09:25):
But also the fire I think we need like Tucker
like we we had a guy like that on our
team in college. You gotta shake them like you gotta
gotta get some fire out of you once in a while.
Speaker 1 (02:09:34):
Appreciate it. Ryan, There you go and you're right, hey
where we listen. They had a hell of a season
considering what they overcome. Proud of them, great future, but
I'm not gonna let it ruin my week. Crap happens.
I didn't play yesterday neither. Okay, Tommy, what's going on?
Speaker 8 (02:09:50):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (02:09:51):
Guys?
Speaker 47 (02:09:51):
Great show this morning. We know where I have to
stand with this team. They entertained us.
Speaker 12 (02:09:56):
I gotta give props to Dana Brown and Joe A. Spada.
Speaker 47 (02:09:59):
Dana, you did everything to get the team to stay competitive.
You brought in a good front line pitcher to get
us through August. They were eighteen and ten. They were champions.
Speaker 1 (02:10:08):
Guys.
Speaker 12 (02:10:09):
I think we all felt the way they felt.
Speaker 47 (02:10:11):
Looking out at that stadium at the end of the game.
The faces on some of the players that got on.
Speaker 8 (02:10:16):
The screen tells us all.
Speaker 12 (02:10:18):
I think we all felt what they were feeling, at
least a little bit.
Speaker 47 (02:10:22):
As far as Joe Espada, the guy showed poise, rookie manager,
you pass the audition, dude?
Speaker 12 (02:10:29):
What can I say?
Speaker 26 (02:10:30):
So?
Speaker 12 (02:10:30):
A lot of things that we all talked about all
year that.
Speaker 47 (02:10:33):
Played them in this series, but I think that they
played like champions, especially from where they came from and where.
Speaker 12 (02:10:40):
They ended up. That's what goodball clubs do. I appreciate
you guys, great show, I'll talk to you.
Speaker 8 (02:10:46):
Let's go Texans, Baby.
Speaker 1 (02:10:48):
Sat time.
Speaker 5 (02:10:49):
Thanks, I'll see if we can get to Jose. Good morning.
Speaker 4 (02:10:53):
What's up, fella?
Speaker 20 (02:10:54):
Good morning.
Speaker 48 (02:10:55):
Just a quick comment on you gotta have a defensive
catcher to win championships.
Speaker 11 (02:11:02):
You just gotta have it.
Speaker 48 (02:11:03):
Guys, who how do we win at the last two
championships with a defensive catcher?
Speaker 4 (02:11:08):
Okay, you gotta stop the.
Speaker 48 (02:11:10):
Ball, guys dropping block gott Hey baby, Hey, your catcher
is your quarterback. You gotta have the balls to walk
up there and say, hey, you're.
Speaker 20 (02:11:19):
Gonna pitch the slider.
Speaker 21 (02:11:20):
You gotta throw it down in the dirt.
Speaker 11 (02:11:21):
I got your back.
Speaker 1 (02:11:22):
You gotta change the gotta change framing. Uh block the
ball first, Yes, we'll deal with framing second. Yeap lead
to be coached at the younger level, Yes, that's the
dead No, damn no, damn doubt.
Speaker 5 (02:11:34):
Brad, good morning, good morning.
Speaker 11 (02:11:38):
Uh, just a couple of things, man, A spot. I
don't I just don't think he should.
Speaker 5 (02:11:42):
Have ever been our coach in the first place.
Speaker 49 (02:11:44):
Brad Ausmas was a great coach and should have been
over here. For instance, last night, Uh, he put in
Pressley against four lefties. Hater should have been in there
and not press League. And then he throws hater in
against Righty's.
Speaker 21 (02:11:58):
Uh.
Speaker 49 (02:11:59):
You know, that's just one of his mistakes throughout the
whole year.
Speaker 11 (02:12:02):
Secondly, it's time to move on.
Speaker 49 (02:12:03):
And get some get rid of some guys, and get
some prospects in here and reshape the organization. I mean,
we could say forty million by getting rid of Tucker
and Baldez and still have a great organization with good prospects.
Speaker 5 (02:12:18):
Anyway, that's just my take on it. Thank you, Brad.
And last call of the show, Jake, good morning.
Speaker 24 (02:12:25):
Hy, Good morning guys.
Speaker 38 (02:12:27):
Just going uh with the other guy's talking about the
juco but tuning the pictures.
Speaker 17 (02:12:31):
Yeah, I just I don't know why Sparta went back
to back.
Speaker 14 (02:12:34):
Lefties and made it super easy for Hints to just
throw lefties against Tucker.
Speaker 21 (02:12:38):
And I know Jordon hits lefties like.
Speaker 38 (02:12:40):
Alrighty, but you know he could have made a foot
fragmant in between and made a Hinch make some moves.
Speaker 5 (02:12:48):
Thank you, Jake.
Speaker 1 (02:12:50):
The valid point, I guess, huh, I would just less.
You rather have a pregnant in the two hole anyway. Yeah, same,
that's just me. Yeah, he works counts more than anybody does. Yep.
Speaker 5 (02:13:00):
I would have enjoyed that.
Speaker 6 (02:13:01):
But hey, look man, at the end of the day,
they did not perform when it comes to runners in
the scoring position. It was an issue all season long.
Hunter Brown pitched his ass off yesterday. Outside of the
one pitch that got hit off the foul pole, at
the end of the day, the offense did not help
at all. Kyle Tucker was over again in the playoffs.
Jeremy Pinia did not really swing it well. They had
(02:13:23):
opportunities and they didn't take advantage of them. That's why
they're at home.
Speaker 1 (02:13:27):
Disappointing end, not a failure of a season considering what
they did. I think, considering all of it, I'll say
it again, I think they overachieved with all the injuries, yep,
and at times gave us thrilling baseball this year. It happens.
That's eight years going straight to the playoffs, seven of
them to the ALCS, and the windows still open. So
they should be proud of the season. But it should
should bug them. It should bug him. After the scene.
(02:13:48):
They should be bothered for a while and then push
it aside. Get back to work, man, crap happens. I
know fans suffer, but get over it quickly as well.
Speaker 5 (02:13:55):
Yep, pull your boots up, strap. What are you gonna
do every lunch?
Speaker 6 (02:13:58):
Pale hard hat, get back out, back out there, baby,
get out there and work.
Speaker 5 (02:14:02):
I can't motivation. All right, final segment.
Speaker 6 (02:14:06):
Here on a Thursday morning, let's recap the Astros season.
They lose to the Tigers yesterday five to two. We'll
talk about it next.
Speaker 3 (02:14:16):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 2 (02:14:20):
That's beutiful?
Speaker 5 (02:14:22):
Is Michael Michael Jackson or Michael Jordan? Michael Jordan, It
is Jackson.
Speaker 1 (02:14:28):
See, that's what I'm saying. That's some will say some
some will save Jackson. I think some refer to Michael
Jackson as the king of pop indeed, and I think
were they go Mike, be like Mike. But I think
it's like mj and Bo. Jackson's another one. You say, Bo,
there's only one bowls. Shame on you for saying Luther
(02:14:50):
Vandros fat Luther Skinny Luther.
Speaker 6 (02:14:54):
Not to be confused with Luther Brown, Canadian choreographer.
Speaker 5 (02:14:57):
Yeah no, legend. Yeah, or don't we have a rapper
named Luther Luther Campbell. Yeah, there you go as an
American rapper.
Speaker 1 (02:15:05):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (02:15:06):
Luther Clayton, Yeah, played football. Luther Burden the third played
football as well.
Speaker 1 (02:15:12):
Luther god Rest is So you want fat Luther, Skinny
Luther Skinny? Oh not me, not me, No, I was
with the pH I'm going big Luther. He said the
pipes were they just sounded even better. He just a legend.
Speaker 5 (02:15:26):
Yeah, he's all right. What he's pretty good?
Speaker 2 (02:15:30):
What?
Speaker 1 (02:15:31):
What? Man?
Speaker 23 (02:15:32):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (02:15:32):
Happy their car off the road, because.
Speaker 11 (02:15:37):
It's not.
Speaker 6 (02:15:38):
It's not a Happy birthday to a CJ. Stroud today.
Happy birthday.
Speaker 1 (02:15:44):
He turns twenty three today. The dude's got like fifteen
years of football left that he's already a top five
quarterback in the league.
Speaker 5 (02:15:52):
Think about that for a second.
Speaker 1 (02:15:54):
Yeah. They do not even know how to play yet,
and he's still one of them. I mean, I mean
that affectionately. Guy. Wait wait till he knows to play
where everything just fits in, where he's the coverage fits in.
That guy is so frigging good. What a blessing he
is to have in this town? You said, Luther Vandros
like if there wasn't if there was another say, you
just said he's okay, got to be racist, No, it does.
(02:16:15):
Oh yeah, it's gotta be got it. And then you
chose Skinny Luthor.
Speaker 5 (02:16:19):
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 1 (02:16:20):
M hmm, Hello dog, bitches love to crack? Yeah, I
see that is Chris Tucker.
Speaker 5 (02:16:29):
No, guys, that's that's that's.
Speaker 6 (02:16:30):
My That's okay, next Friday.
Speaker 1 (02:16:35):
Yeah, bitches love too crags. That's right. I think Mike
Epps is an underrated he's underrated comedian. I think I
think he is. I think he's a top five as
far as underrated go. I think he's one of the
the He just in he's a great character guy in movies. Underrated.
Speaker 5 (02:16:56):
I just I just hope he's not involved.
Speaker 32 (02:16:57):
Did he.
Speaker 2 (02:17:00):
Well?
Speaker 5 (02:17:00):
And no telling who on that list?
Speaker 1 (02:17:01):
Guys, Well, you're gonna find out that list. Yeah, they're
going down hard too. That's been I take that. Wait yeah, pause, yeah, yeah,
anything like that.
Speaker 6 (02:17:16):
Before we get out of your last thoughts on the
Astros loss from yesterday.
Speaker 1 (02:17:19):
I thought it was a heartbreaking, a bummer to lose.
I'm not shocked Detroit's playing good baseball. I thought it
was a hell of a season, considering what they've been through,
and it's not a moral victory, but you can gather
some successes and some really good stuff from this year.
Speaker 5 (02:17:34):
And the guy who pitched yesterday's.
Speaker 1 (02:17:36):
At the top of the friggin list, yep, congratulates on
a good season. They're not good. They don't want to
hear that today, but you know what, to get back
to work. Sometimes a little kicking the ass can rejuvenate
that energy that a lot of people called about today.
Speaker 6 (02:17:49):
Seven consecutive losses at home d'uring the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (02:17:54):
It's going to have to fester for another year because
they're not going to be in a playoffs till next year.
Speaker 17 (02:17:58):
Right.
Speaker 5 (02:17:58):
That's a tough one, A tough one. Kyle Tucker over.
Speaker 6 (02:18:01):
I know it's a short season or short series, I
should say, but he is not good in the playoffs,
and it's gotta I expect a little bit better than
THESEUS Texans.
Speaker 1 (02:18:09):
Get ready, because it's all we're unloading on that and
getting ready to roll.
Speaker 5 (02:18:13):
Josh Allen's coming to town. Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (02:18:15):
This is gonna be there.
Speaker 6 (02:18:16):
Aside from the Minnesota, this is outside of Missouri VERSUS
Texas A and in the college football slate this weekend sucks.
Speaker 4 (02:18:24):
Auburn played Georgia.
Speaker 1 (02:18:25):

a look at that. You take a look at the
October nineteenth Schedulectober twelfth? Is it twelve night? What's the
one where Texas place Georgia? Is it twelfth?
Speaker 5 (02:18:35):

Speaker 6 (02:18:36):
So the twelfth has a huge schedule, and so does
the nineteen of the ninethe Yeah, yeah, nineteenth Texas Georgia,
October twelfth, Yes, that's right, yeah, yeah, oh.

Speaker 1 (02:19:02):
As ain't hit a golf ball in two years. Last
time you golf was with me and you were my
ball striker. And oh, Kerry, don't do your great great
caddy look at you. Just get to just get to
the house. We're going.
Speaker 5 (02:19:16):
It's October's on for at the crib. You want to
play go go astros for one No.
Speaker 1 (02:19:19):
No, No, you cost him a championship.
Speaker 5 (02:19:23):
Runners of the scorning position cost them a championship. Well,
they the song and they had no energy for it.
Speaker 6 (02:19:28):
Maybe we should create a new one. Yeah, he's no
klay Walker though. Who is Timon Houston?
Speaker 8 (02:19:34):
Who is you?
Speaker 1 (02:19:35):
Seriously asked me? Luther?
Speaker 5 (02:19:38):

Speaker 6 (02:19:43):
Do you remember the barbecue place Luther Luthor's Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:19:47):
