Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsby.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury, The usc Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.
The Yankees stave off a sweep. They beat down the
Dodgers yesterday, eleven to four. Shawn Tripley, good morning. Tough
news for the Texans. Stefan Diggs officially out with a

(00:35):
torn acl Sup.

Speaker 5 (00:38):
Is there anything good? Good morning? Uh? Oh yeah, it's
good morning. Didn't read my right, Tripley, damned right, good morning.
There's nothing. There's no phrase that goes hand in hand
more than staving off elimination.

Speaker 6 (00:54):
Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
Kind of a white guy saying, hey, what'd you do?
I stay off elimination. That's pretty much where it is, right, yes, yes, yeah.
The Digs thing is is awful and bet on himself
and gave him the you know, tore up the contract,
gave him a new one year deal, bet on himself,

(01:17):
and unfortunately it's not going to be as big as
he wants it to.

Speaker 6 (01:20):
Because he's not going to be able to play the
full season.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
So now the question is, you know, he'll rehab and
he'll come back and he'll Uh, just it not the
big contract that I'm sure he wanted to anticipated. But
on the other side of it, the Texans are going
to have to find a way now to.

Speaker 6 (01:40):
Replace that.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
And that is a veteran receiver, who's a thousand plus
yard guy, who's a veteran who you went out and
got to elevate, who's a team captain. And now you're
gonna have to find whether it's in house or whether
it's a looking at teams that are in a it's
not baseball, but in a non that are in a celm,
even though we don't have as much of it in football,

(02:03):
that are looking to get out of some stuff like well,
Panthers got rid of their a top receiver yesterday, right,
that trade went down for Johnson, if I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 6 (02:13):
Down Yeah, went a head to the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
Right, a team that wanted one more look at the
Think about this Kansity Baltimore. You want weapons, They went
out and got bigger weapons. Yeah, or to add to
what they're doing. And you can argue that those are
the two best teams in the AFC.

Speaker 7 (02:27):
If you want Chiefs added to somebody on offense and defense.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
Right, So, uh, maybe the Texans. There is something that
says the Texans need to or will jump into looking
for a playmaker, another playmaker wide receiver. You're going to
know in the next few days how they feel about
the receiver room overall. If they don't make a deal,

(02:52):
they think that they got enough depth to do it
in their bandwidth. Is therea if they do make a deal,
that'll tell you of their concerns about the passing game.
But you damn well better show up the offense of lines,
protection and the process.

Speaker 7 (03:02):
Now, I think the bigger concern is with the lack
of number one type guys, meaning a Stefan Diggs, a
Nico Collins who is still out because he's on injury reserve,
set to come back hopefully next week. Now, this weekend
or excuse me, tomorrow night. You're gonna be relying heavily,

(03:22):
not just on Joe Mixon, but on Tank Dell and
guys like Xavier Hutchison with an old line that doesn't
do a very good job of pass blocking.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
Simple as that.

Speaker 7 (03:34):
So if Tank Dell is open, do you trust these
other wide receivers to be able to break off their
route and get open?

Speaker 6 (03:40):
Because C. J.

Speaker 7 (03:41):
Stroud doesn't have that much time to pass and get
rid of the football because of that weak ass pass pro.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
Well, they're gonna obviously one thing about changing launch points
for CJ. Stroud from play action to mix in a
little RPO, to mix in the quick game more often.
You've got to give and then you run the foot pall.
You've got to You can't just keep dropping back in
the pocket and making that your mo, especially on a
team that can't protect a pocket passer on a regular

(04:08):
base taking too many hits, So you're gonna have to
change the launch point help them that way. They're gonna
have to just grow up and play like grown ass men,
is what they're gonna have to do. And then as
far as receivers go, I always I know that this
is your number five, is not You're the same as
your number one in a receiving core, the number five
receiver four receiver.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
Obviously, that's why they're labeled.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
They come in the fourth receiver when you go to
four wide receiver sets. But their job is to plan
for stuff like this, not only as a team, not
only is Bobby Slowick, not only is Tamiko Ryans, but
you plan your depth around what ifs you just do.
That's how you plan a roster. You got what if
the worst case scenario? And if a worst case scenario
doesn't hit, then you get the best case scenario. Then

(04:50):
everything's gravy. But you do have to what if. So
now you gotta what if? What if Nico Collins isn't
fully healthy?

Speaker 8 (04:56):
The red?

Speaker 6 (04:57):
What if it lingers?

Speaker 5 (04:58):
What if the depth of our room isn't as good
as we think it is? What if it is? And
what if the offense? And then you got to ask
if what if one other guy goes down? Well, what
happens if somebody pulls a hamstring?

Speaker 6 (05:10):
Is my depth? So I'm greedy.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
I always want more than less when it comes to
talent and players, and I'm willing to sacrifice a third
round or a fourth round pick or whatever it takes
to go get another playmaker. And this team. I don't
like when people think, well, we're three or four years away.
This team, this the AFC is winnable. It just is
because you've seen you can have a great game and
then you can, all of a sudden get beat by

(05:33):
a team you're not supposed to lose to. Baltimore got
beat by a backup quarterback in Cleveland and quite frankly
a guy that even in Cleveland you didn't even know
who was going to go in second. Remember he wasn't
even the back of Jamis a week ago because you
had dk R R DT Dtrcuse me, dk r is
the stadium in right, So he's so in that case

(05:58):
that that's who you know. Baltimore got beat by, so
they they still want to elevate and they've got two
MVP candidates on their team.

Speaker 6 (06:05):
They're trying to get better.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
I just I don't think you can stand around and
let everybody else go get players. You've got to keep moving.
So what f scenario is all what you always play
on your team. So now that you lose your Stefan
Diggs and Nico Collins has still got to come back
and get right. And now you're hanging on that. Okay,
let's hope everybody stays healthy. But where's Mechi, How's he
going to fit in? How's Wood's going to fit in?

(06:26):
What they just have? There's going to be where you
have to cover yourselves and what if and if the
what if never comes to fruition, great, at least you've
covered it. Those two teams there knew that they had
a what if to answer, and they went out and
feel like they've answered their questions.

Speaker 6 (06:42):
In Kansas City and Baltimore, Ravens sent a fifth round
pick for Deontay Johnson.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Deontay Johns, the the chances are the odds will tell
you that Deontay Johnson is going to have a better
career than the fifth round draft pick. That's not to
say fifth round don't turn into special. But you got
a guy who's a talented player. You make that move
every day. So what's the next one? And are the

(07:09):
Texans going to be able to get into it? But
you got to inquire, and you know what, is somebody
willing to part with another offensive lineman? If you don't
feel like a guy like Kenyan Green's doing the gig
or somebody else, do you go out there and say, Okay,
let's look at a team who's willing to get rid
of roster salary and somebody we may be able to
snatch out of this and pick somebody up who's good player.

(07:31):
I don't think championship teams wait for stuff to happen.
I think they make things happen when it comes to
trade deadlines, waiver wire, pushing forward on how you approach
a game plan, all those things. I think the best
teams are aggressive and you know, they keep moving forward
as opposed to kind of stagnant and wait for things
to happen. I think the teams wait for things to
happen on the field and off it are are a

(07:55):
step behind.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
I would try to go make a move if I
was the Houston Texans for a wide receiver, because my
my concern with Nico Collins is kind of like you
alluded to, is what if the you know how soft
tissue injuries go, I do they linger? So if that
kind of lingers around, which from from all reports he's

(08:18):
been uh recovering really really good, really really well.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
What else are they gonna say? You know, well, what
else are they gonna say?

Speaker 6 (08:26):
Quickly?

Speaker 5 (08:27):
But also and what if he what if it's what
if it does linger? So then you got to start
to look around. I mean, do you really do you
really have that much faith? And Xavier Hutchison, Tank Dell
and then Robert Woods, John Metchi. Obviously Nico Collins would
be in the lineup, but are you gonna get it done?
You're gonna find you're gonna know between Thursday and and

(08:49):
and next what Monday or Tuesday?

Speaker 6 (08:51):
Tuesday, Tuesday is very clock central. Yep, you'll you'll know.
And what are they willing to part with?

Speaker 5 (08:57):
I'm I'm willing to part with assets to get a
player that you think can help you.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
But you're not going to overpay for it. They're not.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
They don't need to do that. But wide receivers. It's weird,
but good wide receivers. Now, how many how often I
know Tyreek Hill when he got traded, But how often
are you trading a number of first round pick for
a wide receiver? You didn't get it from Davante Adams
and the most guys, you just don't get it for him?
So why the hell wouldn't you inquire about something like that?

(09:28):
And I wouldn't stop there if you think you would defensively,
if you think offensive line, go see what's out there
to fortify your roster.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
I'm big on it.

Speaker 7 (09:36):
Yeah, especially when the two best teams in the FC
are doing it. They went out and got Chiefs, went
out and got DeAndre Hopkins to help out their wide
receiver room. They got a defensive player. And then the
Ravens went out and got Deantrey Johnson for a fifth
round pick. They're both trying to improve their roster.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
Yeah, and because they know how hard it is not
only to get there, but to win. You're talking about
a team who's won two in a road now in
the Kansasity chief still greedy in the right way, and
I don't blame them. Why not go get a third?
And that's the way you got to think. Like I said,
what they're doing is not normal. But the rest of

(10:13):
the world, if you're sitting around waiting for things to happen,
you'll get left behind. In the NFL, especially if you're
if it's the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens that
are doing something you're not doing.

Speaker 6 (10:23):
Yeah, I just think the detection should explore them.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
They still got a couple of days because the trade
deadline is coming up on Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (10:30):
Tuesday might be a big day, you know, it could be.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
Yeah, A lot of times the day of it's we're
not like, oh my gosh, they made fifteen trades across
the NFL, and it's rare that it's going to be
the wow factor, name like trading a Miles Garrett. But
will teams that look at themselves and say, we're out
of it, and we got a superstar. Let's shed some
salary and start to build. Would a team like the

(10:54):
Raiders be willing to trade Max Crosby with a team
like you know, New Orleans be ready to be willing
to part with Chris Olave right now? Somebody like that,
that is a player. That change of venue may even
spark him to be a better player. So you inquire,
make somebody tell you no, Yeah, also tell you Tuesday
is also a big day as well. Yeah, in the

(11:18):
in the just in life, it is, you know it is. Yeah,
it is Tuesday. I absolutely do. It's the day I've
been looking forward to for quite some time.

Speaker 7 (11:29):
I mean, you both can't wait. Let's taco Tuesday. Yeah
that's yeah. Oh if yeah, I intend to celebrate. I
intend to celebrate it. Tuesday, Buesday. I intend to celebrate.
Oh yeah, you're coming here hungover? No?

Speaker 9 (11:42):
No?

Speaker 6 (11:43):
Maybe?

Speaker 5 (11:43):
Yeah, but uh, you know, there's victory Mondays. There's victory
Tuesdays as well, and victory Wednesdays. So I'm looking forward
to to to the the big V. Yeah, there you go,
Victory Formation. Yeah, like you know, clean sweep of it. Yeah, yeah,
what can't wait?

Speaker 6 (12:03):
Yeah, it's just you know, Taco Tuesday like it.

Speaker 5 (12:06):
Maybe throw some inchos in there too, a big INChO guy, Look,
don't put a shredded chicken INChO guy.

Speaker 7 (12:11):
Don't put it past me to order some a lotas
at seven thirty this morning, I will.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
Do you like a shredded chicken INChO more of a
faeated chicken INChO guy?

Speaker 5 (12:20):
FA heated chicken? So you put fieta and chicken in
your inches? FA heated chicken? Oh you're talking about just
the fa heetd chicken that like that you put in
your fieta. So it's just chicken, not the faheat of meat.

Speaker 7 (12:31):
It's just fora heeta meat so steak and that's fair.
Put some I love a good sour cream inch a
lot of.

Speaker 6 (12:40):
Though, yeah with some guawk.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Yeah oh yeah yeah so maybe on top of a
sprinkle on the top.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
Sounds good to me. I might have ordered that bad
boy at seven thirty. You guys wanted to guys wanted
a couple.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
I'm good right now, thanks, Okay, I'm good, but i'll
i'll matter of fact, I'll make you a deal because
you know I don't eat breakfast. Huh next Wednesday morning,
I'd be happy to uh eat up to the point
to where I'm celebrating, to make my celebrating so much
to get eat too much. I'll go for mickey these
sandwiches if you want to. One day we did. Yeah,

(13:15):
I'll go all in the day after the celebrate and
go sleep it off.

Speaker 6 (13:19):
Highland Pines Media media golf term that we played.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
Had a hell of a run, sugar. So yeah, I'm
looking forward to I'm looking forward to a trade deadline. Yeah,
Thursday night game and then next Tuesday, which is Taco Tuesday.
Always look forward to it. Like last night was Taco Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (13:36):
It was did you have any tacos?

Speaker 2 (13:38):
No?

Speaker 6 (13:38):
I ate? Uh seafood last night? Okay, yeah, seafood. You
make your own. No, I went to a restaurant.

Speaker 7 (13:45):
Oh damn, triple Did you get that invite?

Speaker 9 (13:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (13:48):
The mail, I must have got lost in the mail. I
think you know what they said. They're delayed because of COVID. COVID.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
Yeah, they're still they're still behind the I'm still a
little late delivered because of COVID. Did the driver had
his mask on so he couldn't so he couldn't deliver,
couldn't breath, couldn't couldn't look, you know, he passed out.
It couldn't make sense. And then uh seemed man couldn't
quite get to you guys. So maybe next week. Okay,
I thought we got through that, through all that stuff,
but still a lot of the COVID delays it makes sense.
It's incredible. Yeah, but if I wanted to just shut
down a restaurant, I.

Speaker 7 (14:14):
Mean, you're putting you know, ghost runners at second bays
in the regular season Major League Baseball, and you know,
I guess the ups drivers and stuff like.

Speaker 5 (14:21):
I told you at ten o'clock at night, the COVID
seems to hit worse it does. Everybody knows. That's the
word of the street. Everybody knows that that's the fraud
on the sting, the word of the street. Okay, there
you go. Let's hear from C. J. Stroud.

Speaker 7 (14:36):
He spoke about losing Stefan Diggs and uh, you know
you're gonna love this one, Sean Digsay.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
It's the next man up mentality of what they tell you,
it's what they tell you. Most overused phrases for X man.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Up, next man up mentality, Baby let's talk about it
next that Sports Talk seven eighty.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
High fastballs, Junior D.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
You're listening to Shawn Salisbury on Sports Talk seventy ninety colors.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
How about the performance.

Speaker 6 (15:06):
Your home for Houston Astros.

Speaker 7 (15:08):
Baseball seven seven ninety is the number to join? Also
something that we're gonna discuss pretty much all show long,
and we want your thoughts on it. What city is this? Texans, Rockets, Astros?
Is it an Astro city? Is it a Texan city yet?

(15:28):
Could it be a Rocket city?

Speaker 9 (15:30):
Well?

Speaker 5 (15:30):
I asked you that at the end of the show yesterday,
so tease it for today.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
What do you think? Man? I still think it's an
Astros town baseball town. Do it feels to you like
they're more passionate? Is that fair? Yes? Does it?

Speaker 5 (15:45):
Is it fair to say that that's because of the
the uh sustained success or they just like baseball more,
don't trust the Texans yet?

Speaker 10 (15:54):
What what is it?

Speaker 7 (15:55):
I think it's the sustaining I think it's both. Actually,
I think it's the sustained success. I think last year
was an unbelievable season for the Texans and now honestly
just from I mean, we have the Texans at six
and two, and yet people it still feels like the
fan base is like, ah, yeah, there's six and two,
but you lost Stefan Diggs. What are they gonna do now?

(16:20):
Nico Collins is injured, the offensive line is banged up
or not even banged up there, they're just not very
good when it comes to pass protection. I think for
a team that's six and two, they're still I mean
there's excitement, but as not as much as I thought
there would be. I think just a suctain sustain success
for the Astros makes this an Astros town for right now. Now,
the Texans gets the FC Championship this year, maybe even

(16:43):
a Super Bowl, obviously that's gonna change. But then you
look at what the Astros have coming back next year.
They're gonna have a lot of pitching. There's still a
lot of question marks. Whether they're gonna try to bring
back Alex Bregman, will Jeremy Pegnek elevate, what's gonna happen
with Tucker, can he perform in the playoffs? So Farth
and so on.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
So I think there's a pivotal time for the Houston Astros,
But as of right now, for me, at least I
still think it's a it's a Houston Astros town, and
then the Rockets are you know, we'll see how they
do this year.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
They're two and two so far.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Well, not that we feel this way, but they're a
distant third. When it comes to passion, it feels, I mean,
it's almost like it's a selected thing, you know what
I'm saying, that they're tread and waiting for it to happen.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
Young players.

Speaker 5 (17:27):
But I wonder if all three won a championship within
a year, which one would be most celebrated man the
one that hasn't won one yet, yeah, meaning the Texans,
or would it still be the pride of we keep dominating.
Look at the Astros have done, They've rebuilt it and
done it again. Well, I've just wonder which one strikes

(17:48):
the what's the biggest lightning rod here? When things go
good and when things aren't going good? Which one evokes
the most emotion?

Speaker 6 (17:57):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (17:58):
When they're going good, it feels like the Astros does. Yeah,
when they're going bad, it still feels like the Astros. Yeah,
excuse me, I mean this is listen.

Speaker 6 (18:08):
We are on Thursday. They'll be more than halfway through
the season.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Meaning the Texans, and if they're able to go into
New York and win, that's seven and two.

Speaker 6 (18:18):
Is it a seven and two?

Speaker 5 (18:19):
You think Super Bowl seven and two or a seven
and two that you think we're still a ways away?
You know what I'm saying. But it this way, I
don't know what we'll find out today. It's just and
we can't. You can't judge by callers or the buzz
through a phone line and just how we're talking about it.
But just around town, I wonder, like our people is
uptight about Stefan diggs injury. Not saying they're rooting for

(18:41):
him to be hurt. I'm just saying uptiping, Oh my gosh,
look what happened. Imagine now, So would you say that
Stefan Diggs is one of the more popular and highly
I mean at his position, one of the when you
talk about each position on the team, you'd say he's
one of the more well known stars of the team, right, yeah,
all right, So this would be the equivalent of let's

(19:01):
say it's the equivalent of Pro Bowls. Never been an MVP. Okay,
Alex Pregman injury out for the season with two thirds
and a half the season, to go. Where will we
be tripping more Stefan Diggs or Alex Bregman, Alex Pregman,
And I don't know if it's close. I don't think
it is close, which is crazy because you've got Stefan

(19:24):
dis who's been a number one everywhere he's been, and
you got Alex Bregman, who's been in the starting third
basement here. I just I'm not saying, and maybe it
may be wrong.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
Would it change? I mean, what will it take then?

Speaker 5 (19:39):
If you're telling me that it's an Astros town, what
would it take to flip the switch to the to
a Rockets. I think the Rockets would would take. It's
going to take even longer. Bringing Dream back would be nice,
but they got good young players. But in a state
of Texas, yet it's still I tell people around the country,
I said, since I've lived here, it's a baseball town

(19:59):
even though it's a football state. So what will it
take for the Texans to overcome? If the Texans went
and won the Super Bowl this year or next year,
does it all of a sudden become the most popular
or is it still the Astros or the Astros? If
the Astros did a downturn, would would the interest wayne
or would they say we got to get this back?

Speaker 6 (20:17):
Where would it go? I mean? When?

Speaker 5 (20:19):
Or let's put them all are mightily struggling. What What's
which one cuts the deepest? If all three franchises were
in last place in their division halfway through all their seasons,
which one would people emotionally be ruin their day? I

(20:41):
think it's the Astros. I do too, I really do,
and I'm not sure, and I may be wrong if
there's somebody on this. It's not like saying you're wrong
if you think that. I'm just trying to get a
gauge for if you got a six and two team
with the dynamic quarterback?

Speaker 6 (20:57):
Is it it's you get my point?

Speaker 9 (21:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (21:00):
If they're all suffering and struggling and miserable, are the
fan base more miserable because of the Astros, the Texans
or the Rockets? Yet if they're all winning, you're happy
for all of them. It's bragging part. But which one?
Which one?

Speaker 6 (21:14):
If you say you're going to go to all three?
Which one you go into?

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Which one makes you grab the phone the most and
call your buddy or text your friends. I can't believe
this is happening bad or good if it's a good part.
So I just because I right now, I'm sure you
can ask this question in a lot of towns in
Boston and Philly and Los Angeles. Is Los Angeles say
Trojan town when they're winning? Is it a Laker town
when they're winning? Is it a Dodger town right now?

(21:42):
Is it a football town? Do they want the re
What town is it? I've grew up in California. Which
one is it? Which one would they suffer the most over?
I wonder if it's the Dodgers because of the long
time off. That's what I'm saying, is that I think
for that city I got, I gotta feel like it's
either the Dodgers or the Lakers because they've got two

(22:04):
football teams. Right, It's not the Chargers. It's not the Chargers,
so to see you see what I'm saying. In Boston, hell,
you could even throw the Boston Bruins in there. Which
whose town is it?

Speaker 9 (22:16):
Now?

Speaker 6 (22:16):
The brain it's not a Patriot town anymore? No close.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
And so Red Sox Celtics are the reigning champion probably
their city right now, But that's been one of you
can make the argument with Russell and through Larry Bird
and all the Halflcheck and Larry Bird that it's been
a Celtics town. There's four you can choose from there
because they've all won titles. So I just wonder here
worthy what evokes the most emotion winning or losing? Right now,
I still think it's Astros. Yeah, you come off a

(22:41):
ten win season in a football state with them as
popular high school football state as there is on the planet. Yet,
what's the equivalent of six and two in football? For baseball? Okay,
So let's say you're a You're at eighty one games
and they are is the equivalent of that? Is that

(23:04):
is a fair day? Say what's sixty five? Yeah, you'd
what's sixty five and twenty five? That's that's ninety Okay,
So sixty five and sixty and twenty would be eighty games.

Speaker 7 (23:18):
Let's saxty one and twenty sixty one and twenty. That's
that's essentially what it is.

Speaker 6 (23:25):
Okay. If you're if it's about you, imaginef the ashes
are sixty one and twenty. You get my half way point.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
Get my point, So they're seven and two if they
win Thursday, sixty one and twenty at the All Star
break or seven and two?

Speaker 6 (23:38):
Which was which? Which one's evokeing more emotion? Is the
the as close? The Ashros are kicking ass right?

Speaker 5 (23:46):
So I guess I'm looking for our great fans to
tell us how's it switch? Or are we are we
missing something here? Is there more buzz about that? Yeah
than we think?

Speaker 11 (23:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (23:55):
Curious, it's just interesting.

Speaker 7 (23:56):
Seven one three, two, one two five, seven ninety will
take your calls on that. What kind of town do
you think this, uh Houston is? Is it a Texans
Astros Rockets? How do you feel about it? We'll uh

We're but the Sewn Salisbury Show continued, Doctor Ronnie, Ronnie,
good morning, welcome in.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Good morning, guys.

Speaker 12 (25:44):
This is an interesting question you're coming up with, because
I'm a Night of Houstonian, you know, seventy plus years old,
and I've been a sports fan here just about all
my life, you know, longtime Astros, longtime Oilers fan, and
I don't know how to answer the question. I think

(26:04):
it's almost and I don't mean this in a derogatory sense,
it's I think it's almost a what have you done
for me lately?

Speaker 11 (26:11):
Town?

Speaker 12 (26:12):
You know, when the Oilers we love and blue and
all that. I mean, there's no doubt it was a
football town. But during that time the Astros were terrible,
and then they got better, and then of course the
Rockets got dream and and you know, Ralph and all that,
they were good. So and I go back and look
at what happened with New York when the Jets beat

(26:35):
the Colts, the Mets beat the Orioles, and the Nickerbockers
beat the old Washington Bullets. I think, you know, how
would you know? I think one way to judge maybe
what's the best sport or who's how you is the

(26:56):
amount of merch that's sold by each team? You know,
does Houston have more baseball?

Speaker 6 (27:03):
Yeah? And who sells more merch? Yeah? I would imagine.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
But do you think it's more merch in a because
the season is longer in baseball? Do you think you
think more merch? I don't even know. I don't even
know the results of that. It's going to be one
of the two. I don't know here who sells the
most merch? It's a hell of a point.

Speaker 12 (27:18):
Well, yeah, I think so. I mean, of course, back
you know in the seventies when when Love You Blue,
there's no doubt they were kings.

Speaker 6 (27:27):
I mean with her role and oh yeah.

Speaker 11 (27:29):
Pastorini and all that.

Speaker 12 (27:30):
But now if you've got all three teams that are
that have a chance to be good, how do you
judge which one is the most popular?

Speaker 11 (27:40):
Now?

Speaker 12 (27:40):
You know, my first four to become interested in was baseball,
and I love baseball because it's one hundred and sixty
two every day. Basketball is pretty close, but you know,
I'm not as big on basketball. I'm still pretty big
on football, but only pro, not college anymore. But it's

(28:01):
it's really I think it's fascinating and well, I don't
know what would happen if the Texans get to the
super Bowl, you know, because the Astros have already won
their worlds, and of course the Rockets have the two championships,
but there may not be a whole lot of people
who remember or care about what the Rockets did what

(28:23):
thirty forty years ago. So I think if you, if
you've made everybody put a gun to their head and
say what's the best, what's sport of the the most
interested in? Because I think it would be Astros. I
think it would be Astros.

Speaker 5 (28:39):
Thank you, ron I think we're all three in agreement
right that least as we sit today, the question is
are you are you pining for more? I mean, if
the Texans win one, does that overtake the Astros? Is
there one equal to the other? I mean, I don't
know the answer because in season I love them all.
But what evokes more emotion winning or losing?

Speaker 6 (29:00):
Interesting?

Speaker 5 (29:00):
Ronnie's been here for a long time, and I think
as we sit here now did for some it just
feels like the success of.

Speaker 6 (29:11):
The Astros hits different here. Yeah, am I right?

Speaker 5 (29:13):
As guy as a guy who's wasn't born and raised here,
it feels like it hits different, But I don't know.
And I would imagine if you asked this question and
we are to ten thousand people, you may get, you know,
three different answers on fifteen hundred different ways.

Speaker 6 (29:30):
Right, Yeah, whatever it is, And I think.

Speaker 7 (29:33):
It goes back to this city. Saw the Astros struggle
for all those years, losing a hundred games and one
hundred games and one hundred games, and then Jeff Luno
comes in, you get aj Hinch. They have a turnaround
season in twenty fifteen with a lot of young guys,
Carlos Young, Carlos Korea, young, George Springer, Jose al Tuve.

(29:54):
I mean, you go on and on, and then they're
so close to getting past the Royals and the Alds,
and then the next year in twenty sixteen, you have
kind of down a back down year where they didn't
live up to expectations after coming off the twenty fifteen year,
and then twenty seventeen obviously you saw what happened, right,
and then they make that trade to get Justin Verlander

(30:17):
and then boom, you know what a big part of
it is what I think. So is the hurricane Hurricane
Harvey that hit here, and it just seemed like at
that time, the Astros, with the success that they did,
was what everybody in this city needed. So I almost
I almost feel like that brought this city together more

(30:38):
so towards the Astros than any other sports team in
this city. And it might not be fair to other
organizations because that was what was going on in the
city at the time a series, But I don't know,
maybe I'm looking too emotional about.

Speaker 6 (30:50):
It in Dallas.

Speaker 5 (30:51):
In Dallas at the Cowboys, it's no doubt whose city
that not that it's got to be Dallas, is right, Yeah,
if they pay Cowboys, Yes, yeah, I mean the Cowboys, right.
I mean I was, you know there through the Rangers.
I was ableing to Mavers won an NBA championship, and
I think it was more of a Dirk town. I mean,
they loved themselves from Dirk Nevinsky and righttually so, and
they won it. It was big, but it'll never be

(31:13):
as big as when the Cowboys won a World super Bowl.

Speaker 6 (31:15):
It just won't be.

Speaker 5 (31:17):
They talk more about the team that hasn't won than
they do about it, and even the Dallas Stars. It's
big there, right, and they've won They've won a Stanley Cup,
I still think and even with Boach win in last
year and it was big, the buzz stays around longer.
With the Cowboys, there's a no that's a no brainer.
That's a in Pittsburgh. As much as I know they
like the Pio stuff, guess who's staying at hockey and

(31:38):
Lemieux and the Steelers.

Speaker 6 (31:40):
That's exactly right, and it always will be here.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
It makes for interesting question because there's no bigger football state.
That's the irony of it. There's no bigger football state
on the planet. Football state, and then also football city,
that's what I'm talking about. Yet, yet when the Astros win,
it just feels there's a little and that's.

Speaker 6 (31:59):
Not take a look. We may be wrong.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
Hey, if they go win a Super Bowl, the Texans,
this this city will go nuts. And the question is
does it hang around longer? I don't know the answer.
I can tell you the answering cities I've been in
about teams that I was in Minnesota when they they
want a World Series and Kirby Puckett and that group,
and you know they well they Minnesota Timberwolves haven't won
an NBA title. They've They've had some decent teams, I

(32:22):
can tell you this though, haven't been to what four
Super Bowls and not one one. Vikings win a Super Bowl,
that city will be on it's ear. And they got
the end, they got the wild They got good hockey
there too, and that's a hockey state. But it's still
a football. It's still a football. Football wins that's bigger there.
So I just want to hear maybe because there's so
many different people come and go in in the oil
and gas, gas and oil business and oil and gas,

(32:44):
should I say, in the medical field, right, they come
and go and people a lot of people live here,
weren't raised here. So maybe it's just because the Astros
domination of success. I just wonder even the homegrown, like
like Ronnie said, people who've lived here their whole life,
not just those of us who've come in and can
kind of get perception from other towns. But here is

(33:06):
is it? Will it always be?

Speaker 6 (33:08):
This?

Speaker 5 (33:08):
Will if the Astros have continued more sustained success, even
if the Texans win one, will it shift? And for
people that were here during the oilers and all that,
maybe they can think different, but maybe it's the Astros.

Speaker 9 (33:24):
Well.

Speaker 7 (33:25):
I wonder, you know, when it comes to like the
football fan base here, and again I don't know, so
that's why I'm asking. I wonder how much it plays
into a factor of when the Oilers were here and
then the left and the city didn't have a football team.
So other people that were here growing up around that time,
they became fans of Dallas, they became fans of the

(33:45):
Saints and then whoever else, right, and those fans are
still here. You know how many Cowboy fans are in
this city? Do you know how many Saints fans are
in this city? All because there was that gap where
the Texans weren't here.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
And you know what I also think, and I don't
mean this against the fans. I understand scorned. Yeah, I
feel like they were let down by the by you know,
can't get the Jerseys back, move to town, all those things,
and then you had to get the Texans here. It's
it's I think some haven't got over that, right, And
I understand that, And I guarantee there's fans and you know,

(34:16):
when when Cleveland up, and I mean the Browns and
the in the Baltimore. Rire that whole thing. It's like,
do you lose some and gain some new, different, different
kinds of fans. So it just makes for interesting if
you're a lifer here, what what I guess what evokes
more emotion from you? What's which one of these major
sports evokes more emotion for you? In some places, college

(34:38):
is even bigger than their proteins.

Speaker 9 (34:40):
You know.

Speaker 5 (34:40):
Also, I wonder where any time USC it was a
USC town when the Liner and that group was there. Yeah, yeah,
I mean, I'm just telling you now, Yeah that was
a and Pete Carroll. That may have been even with
all the proteins, it may have been a Trojan town
at that point in time. Every celebrity that was going
out was going out to watch those guys play as
much as they were going to watch Lakers as much,
say we're going to watch the Dodge. I'm just telling you,

(35:02):
it was Pete Carroll and the Trojans town at that point.

Speaker 6 (35:04):
Yeah. So it's shifted. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:06):
Hell, even the Los Angeles Kings have had their moment.
People still like, hey, we can we can win a
Stanley Cup here in Los Angeles.

Speaker 6 (35:11):
I mean waiting on that.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
Retzky brought that to attention obviously, so most times I
think you can choose which one it is. Yeah, I'm
not sure. I'm not sure you can. But yet it
still feels to me that it's an Astro city.

Speaker 7 (35:22):
It's kind of how I feel. Seven one, three, two, five,
seven ninety is the number to join. Will continue to
take your calls.

Speaker 6 (35:28):
Well kind of city?

Speaker 9 (35:29):
Is this?

Speaker 7 (35:29):
What do you feel Astros fans, Texans fans, Rockets fans?

Speaker 6 (35:32):
Is it baseball? Football? Basketball? City?

Speaker 7 (35:36):
Also continue to talk about Stefan Diggs and that torn
acl What will the Texans do tomorrow night with the
wide receiving group next Spar's talk seven to eighty.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Let the celebration start more.

Speaker 13 (35:48):
Sewn Salisbury, It's a Sean Salisbury show, Astros, Rockets, Texans, Damien, good.

Speaker 9 (35:56):
Morning, Hey, good morning. To ask you a question, and
I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go Texans right now. And
this is my reason for it. Even I mean, at
first it was the Astros, Astros were winning, doing their thing,
but I believe it has a lot to do with
the ownership and with the general managers they're doing to

(36:20):
help the team win. Like I feel like the Astros
kind of fell out the graces a little bit because
people a little pissed off their crane, wondering what he's
doing with the team and the direction he's going. Then
you got a guy like the McNair's who people hated
until the moment you got Caserio and paired him up
with Demiko. And then when your boy Stroud come in

(36:40):
and did what he did like last year, I think
he stole the heart of the city. So and that's
the way I'm gonna go. But even when in last thing,
I believe even when the Astros were doing their winning
and you had you had Mike deent Toni and Darryl
Morey making all the moves, doing what he tried, doing
everything he could to get him over the hump. With
j Card and all them, I believe it was a

(37:02):
Rockets town then. So I kind of believe, like one
of your earlier callers said, it's, uh, what have you
done for me lately? So I think that I think
it's shifted down to the Texans. I mean, I know
the Texans haven't really done a whole whole lot yet,
but I think they're transcending, and I think the star
power that with Stroud and the love that the city

(37:22):
has for Stroud and kind of what he stands for.
I'm gonna go with the Texans right now, and that's
all I got for you.

Speaker 6 (37:27):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
Damien's a good explanation. Yeah, makes a lot of doubts.
I what are you gonna add to that? I like it, Yeah,
I like what he's talking about. Let's let's get one
more in real quick for get.

Speaker 6 (37:38):
Gotta be quick. Gotta be quick, Tony, forty five seconds for.

Speaker 8 (37:41):
You very quick, guys. This is a right now Sinastros town.

Speaker 14 (37:45):
But but when the Oilers were still here, and I
know you guys don't want to hear about the old
glove you blue days.

Speaker 8 (37:51):
But brother, let me tell you something.

Speaker 14 (37:53):
They lost twenty They lost by twenty nine points in
the AFC Championship game and filled the dome up with
pep rally and then did it again the next year.
So until the Texans get there, it's an Astros town.

Speaker 9 (38:04):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (38:04):
Let me ask you real quick, Tony, what town is
it for you? Well?

Speaker 5 (38:09):
If I said, right now, did you get to pick
one and you're not gonna win one in any sport
for the next ten years, pick the one you need
to win a championship to fulfill you for the next
ten years, because that's the only one you're getting.

Speaker 6 (38:20):
Which team are you choosing?

Speaker 14 (38:22):
Well, because of my perspective with the football team, I
don't think I'm ever going to be attracted to the
I'm never going to be a I'm a Texans fan,
but not like the owners.

Speaker 8 (38:29):
I don't ever feel like that.

Speaker 14 (38:30):
But but the Rockets, see, Rockets need, Rockets need to
win another championship.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
Well that's where you'd go with them first, and you're
there's just this feeling of you kind of got a
little bit of a wall because the Oilers and Texans
that you just can't break through. Well, I know you
root for him, but I mean that Oiler thing still
sticks in your crawl because of that.

Speaker 8 (38:48):
Yes, yes, sir, I missed the Oilers every single day.

Speaker 5 (38:51):
Makes sense, brother, So you want the Rockets. There's a
vote for the Rockets. There you go. Good stuff. Tony
appreciate it, man. Yeah, you hold people down. I wonder
with what they'd say and Tony Rockets and yeah, that's
that's interesting. He wants another one and they've already got
a couple with what you know, and to win one
without dream I think would make a.

Speaker 6 (39:06):
Yeah, it was a difference. Yeah, yeah, good.

Speaker 7 (39:09):
Uh, it's good good perspective from both the Damien absolutely
and Tony seven to three tons seven hinety Yeah, Ronnie.
Earlier in the six o'clock hour, let's get to uh
a seven o'clock hour continue this discussion. Also UH talk
about the offensive game plan against the Jets tomorrow night
without Steffan Diggs next in Sports Talk seven einety.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
There's a lot of place they're going to charge you
a lot more money to do your thing when it
comes to curt of Pro serderpro dot com, cert of Propainters,
sirtopro dot com for your free estimate and all the
safety protocols you need. Each and every cut of pro
business is individually owned and operated, which gives you that
boutique feel that you would want when people knowing who

(39:47):
you are, what your tastes are, help you pick out
the paint colors if you want to change indoor, outdoor, interior, exterior,
business or home. It's expensive to own a home in
a business, isn't it, So why wouldn't you protect it
with the quality painting as sort of pro painters. It's
expensive and so you want it done right, and they
do it right. And I was a customer first, which

(40:08):
makes me proud to be part of a great team
that came into my home, did three or four rooms,
did some exterior stuff for me, and I'm like, now
that's the way it's supposed to be done.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
You di I wires. I love you.

Speaker 5 (40:18):
But even if they can go one better and free
up your time to do something else, why wouldn't you.

Speaker 6 (40:22):
It's sort of pro painters, sort of with the c surtopro.

Speaker 5 (40:25):

That's painting Happy kd E.

Speaker 13 (40:34):
Houston HD two Houston, my heart radio station, the Astros,
the Rockets, Rockets, Beast befall your home for your home teams.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (40:50):
Sulfrey Spy Houston.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Sean Salisbury to usc Truth, longtime friend shown Salisbury, Ryan.

Speaker 6 (41:03):
Lon Lima, Go Lobo. This is the Sean Salsbury Show.

Speaker 7 (41:10):
Early in the show with the Texans success, They're six
and two playing tomorrow night. Astros got eliminated in the
wild card series against the Tigers, obviously we know their success.
The Rockets with a young, talented corps trying to improve
from a year ago. They were five hundred, which were
what kind of city is this? Is it a football town,

(41:31):
baseball town, Rockets town, Texans Astros? What's your thoughts? Seven one, three,
two five seven ninety is the number two joints. Get
back out to the phone lines, Randall, you're up first,
Good morning.

Speaker 6 (41:42):
Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 15 (41:43):
I'm like Sean man it it always creates a shift.
Championships create shifts. And I remember growing up, people used
to always listen to the Astros on the radio and
they do the score call a you know, astro. It
has always been an Astro city. But as the old heads,

(42:05):
you know, as time go on, this new generation creates
a shift. But it has always been an Astro city.
And I wanted to ask you guys a question. Do
you think that StepN Diggs wanting the football caused pressure
on CJ. Stroud to try to, you know, spread the

(42:26):
ball to every receiver. I think it was a little
confusion with him. I don't think that Stepan Diggs is
a good fit for the Texans.

Speaker 6 (42:33):
That's just my opinion.

Speaker 15 (42:35):
You know, and I know you have people calling in,
you know, saying what they need to say, and I
respect their opinion. And I think that he made a
bad decision when he gave up those other two years
on the contract. You never take a chance on losing
something you already have. And I believe that this offense
is gonna open up since he's he's not in the lineup.

Speaker 16 (42:56):
And I hang up and listen.

Speaker 7 (42:57):
Thank you Randall seven three two five seven, biscuit, and
we'll address that, biscuit.

Speaker 6 (43:02):
Good morning, what's.

Speaker 17 (43:03):
Up hey, you talk of the morning my brothers, Biscuit,
what's happening to know? Man, I gotta meet my nephew
somethwhere man to help him with something or whatever.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
So he got me out early.

Speaker 17 (43:16):
But I'm listening to the talk Shine, and this this
is and this is the Rando and all the people
call it. It's not even close. This is a football town, man.
You know, you had a guy Shine talking about the
orders who's been gone. And we had two championships from
the Rockers and the Astros. You let the left the

(43:37):
Rockers and the Astros lose one hundred games or whatever.
You'll see nobody at the parks.

Speaker 11 (43:43):
Nobody.

Speaker 17 (43:45):
You go through the sports bar, you will see nobody
but football. It is Texas is football. It's a football state,
you know what I mean? And yeah, it's people still
talking about the Orleans because it's a football state. And
even when the Texans was going through the Lovey Days
and the other Coast days, you still the stadium was

(44:07):
pretty much full. It's it's just a football town. I'm
I'm a from inn Danna's round. We all basketball, but
Texas it's all about.

Speaker 6 (44:15):
Football, biscuit. I it feels like it should be.

Speaker 5 (44:21):
I mean, I'm not saying it shouldn't be an astrost town,
but when it's a football state, you automatically think, well,
it takes on that personality, right, And that's an interesting perspective.
If they lose, nobody shows up. But if the Texans lose,
it's still going to be close to full. Is that
what you're I.

Speaker 6 (44:34):
Mean, it's what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (44:35):
Yeah, isn't it amazing they'll think about this. We've had
five four, five, six different calls already. We've had a Rockets.
We've had that it wants it to be the Rockets
town because he wants to die. We've had Texans. It's
a football state. We've had no brain or baseball city.
And then you said no brain or football city. Isn't
it amazing the different perspective from different eyes. That's why
I love the question because I know, like when I

(44:56):
go to Indiana, as much as they like the Colts
and the rest of it, it's basketball. It is hoops,
and it's from high school, right. And I'm not telling
you anything. You don't know when I go to when
I go to Dallas, I can tell you now. You
can do whatever you want with all the titles they
want to. It's Cowboys first and foremost, and you and
I both know that, and they always will be.

Speaker 6 (45:14):
I know it's in the same state.

Speaker 5 (45:16):
So this one it just it's it feels like the
energy is astro energy, yet it's six and two. Maybe
they're just treading lightly because if they win a Super Bowl.
I think this town would go crazy, don't you biscuit?

Speaker 18 (45:27):
Oh Man?

Speaker 8 (45:28):
The turnout for a parade.

Speaker 17 (45:29):
If the Texas would win, it would be it would
be off the chain, you know, man, Don't get me wrong.
It's also a winner's town. You know, if you win,
they don't support you. In Houston, you know what I mean. So, yeah,
Astros and Rockets, when they're winning, they get to support.
My point is when they're losing, they don't get no support.

(45:49):
When the Texas are luting, they still get support because
it's a football town.

Speaker 5 (45:53):
And Biscuit, I think I'll let you go on this
is that I think that that's the best way to judge,
not when you're winning, because every hey, if the Rockets
just whin Harden was playing ball and they're the people
are showing up with you, you know they're going they
you know, obviously when they're winning, people are going to
get there on a Wednesday night. And football, we know
they're showing up in basketball and baseball, they're showing up
when everybody's winning.

Speaker 6 (46:14):
The key is when they're not winning, who shows up?

Speaker 5 (46:17):
Right that I think that's probably a good way to
judge it in the negative for when when if all
three were struggling and in last place, who would they
show up to watch more of?

Speaker 6 (46:27):
And that's probably your football answer, right, yep?

Speaker 17 (46:31):
Interesting, you know what else is winning my Indiana?

Speaker 6 (46:36):
Well, yes they are.

Speaker 5 (46:37):
Yeah, I mean, I know it's a basketball towl, brother,
but you maybe enjoyed a Big Ten title in football
for the first time in who the hell does how long?

Speaker 6 (46:44):
Right?

Speaker 17 (46:46):
I think nineteen sixty eight the last time.

Speaker 11 (46:48):
They ain't no.

Speaker 5 (46:50):
Freaking awesome to watch, man, and I can't wait to
see how it develops. Can you imagine going in I
didn't have Indiana on my bingo card to make the playoff,
and they are a couple wins away from being in
perfect position to do it. Man, that's got to be
fun for you. There you go, Biscuit, Thanks brother, I
appreciate you.

Speaker 6 (47:07):
Man. Thanks.

Speaker 5 (47:08):
I think that's the best way to do it, right,
Go from bottom to top is top.

Speaker 6 (47:11):
When you're winning. Everybody shows up to every sport.

Speaker 5 (47:13):
Yeah, on a Wednesday, and now football on a Thursday night.
If all three were in last place, Sunday tailgating would
probably be the same at Tech. I mean, they'd still
be people there when there, Yeah, I think so. I
think people will take off on Friday.

Speaker 6 (47:25):
So, isn't it. Yeah? Think about this though in my previous.

Speaker 7 (47:29):
Role, if I was an oil and gas still, I
would take Friday off, right and I would go tail
get my ass off on Thursdays.

Speaker 6 (47:34):
Right.

Speaker 5 (47:34):
Obviously with this we can't right think about that, did
Biscuit oh, no doubt. Football guy from Indiana comes here
and we had a couple couple of callers beforehand.

Speaker 6 (47:43):
It was Damien was a.

Speaker 5 (47:44):
Da Damien Tony and Tony said it was baseball through
and through? Right, did he wasn't? Wasn't Tony all not
for him?

Speaker 3 (47:52):
Right?

Speaker 6 (47:52):
But he wanted the Rockets.

Speaker 5 (47:53):
But right, So we see how the different perspective. I mean, oh,
no brainer, it's this team, and then oh, no brainer,
it's another team. Yeah, it's it's uh which is a
good thing. We've got three good franchise. Hopefully we can
add hockey at some point. And not to not to mention,
got some pretty good you know, the Cougar's basketball team
is pretty good. Pretty good route, dude. There was a
time in La. Did you know who ran the city there?

Speaker 11 (48:15):
U c l A.

Speaker 6 (48:16):
That's exact basketball.

Speaker 5 (48:18):
U c l A hoops when I was in high
school and coming out and they were even before that.

Speaker 6 (48:24):
Yeah, when I came out. Yeah, I got courage. I
have courage.

Speaker 5 (48:27):
Courage, hero Yeah hero is I They mean U c
l A basketball. You wanted to go to usc to
play football and he wanted to go to UCLA to
play basketball. If you're California, got grew up watching him.
I grew up as a die hard U c. L
A basketball fan, wanted to play a Paul Pavilion, and
when I got recruited by Larry Brown, was like, I'm
not sure if I like this, if if I like

(48:48):
anything football. Being recruited by UCLA basketball was it. I
was thinking, Man, I played a Paul Pavilion. It was
so cool, and on my recruiting trip to go watch
the game was awesome. Yet USC football, if you were
in the state at that time, it second. No, not
the UCLA football wasn't good, but it was always USC
football UCLA basketball so depending. And they've got so many

(49:09):
different sports franchises to choose from hell, you know, in La.
But I just it just begs the question over. If
you're losing, who do they love more? If you're winning,
who would they love more?

Speaker 7 (49:18):
I think it's just such an interesting perspective for each
caller that we've.

Speaker 6 (49:21):
Had great and how lately different it is.

Speaker 5 (49:23):
I've also got h We've got people tweeting us left
and right about this discussion as well, so I can
go through those and we'll continue to take your call.
So Rob Roger, we'll get to you guys next as
we head into the Stakeown and continue this discussion about
what type of city this is uh in in today's
sports landscape here in Houston, Rocketstown, Astrostown, Texans Town.

Speaker 6 (49:42):
How do you feel?

Speaker 7 (49:42):
Seven one, three, two two five, seven ninety We roll
along right here on Sports Talk sevent and ae.

Speaker 5 (49:47):
Country Boys Roofing locally owned and operated. My man John,
we've already talked this morning. We talk about a business,
we talk about fun, We laugh, and John knows this
about Country Boys Roofing because he's the boss. They don't
chase storms, but they will chase you to make sure
that you are protected and safe during a storm with
your roof or pre storm if it's old, or if

(50:07):
it's something that a storm is damaged previously, to get
out in front of the next one or poststorm, to
make sure you're secure and safe. That's what they're about.
Not price gouging. There's too much of that going on.
So a thousand dollars discount for people who use my
name when they're getting their full roof estimated one thousand
dollars discount. Now, if you're a military or educator, first responder,

(50:28):
that thousand dollars is for those of you who aren't.
But if you're an educator, or if you're a military,
or if you're a first responder, you get one thousand,
five hundred dollars discount. So whatever category you fall into
on your full roof, get that estimate. But the great
thing about it Texas Windstorm Certainty and gfshingle certified and
those things that you know, if you're technical, you're saying, okay,
they're certified. That's what I need to know. But if
you're just looking like most of us, layman, I want

(50:50):
my roof safe. I don't want you to price gouge me.
I like locally owned and operated. I like the boutique
feel even though they can do big jobs, no job
too big or too small, and they'll go anywhere in
Houston area anywhere is I like that feeling because you
know it's personal to John, not just to you, but
it's personal to country boys roofing for obvious reasons and

(51:11):
plus word of mouth. Somebody does it, they did it right, boom,
they tell the next person. That's how great businesses are built.
And when you're locally owned and operated, that's exactly how
you want it. You're not some big conglomerate. Love it,
stay local, stay operated with the people right here who
care about you. And remember price gouging is a problem,
not for Country Boys roofing. It's eight three two seven

(51:31):
three one fifty six twenty eight three two seven three
one fifty six twenty for your free estimate. Pop on
in there and let them know so you can get
the out in front of it and be safe and secure.

Speaker 6 (51:42):
Or it's country with a K.

Speaker 5 (51:43):
Boys with a Z, Countryboys ROOFINGLLC dot com. Countryboys Roofing
LLC dot com and they'll help you navigate those awful
insurance claims, the very best in the business. They do care.
Let them help you be secure and safe. Country Boys
Roofing LLC dot com.

Speaker 4 (52:02):
There's a lot happening, and he's got a lot to
say about it. Sean Salisbury continues on seven nineteen.

Speaker 6 (52:13):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 4 (52:16):
The Salisbury's takeout, Salisbury takeout on the.

Speaker 6 (52:20):
Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 7 (52:45):
Side of the steak out here on the Shawn Southbury Show,
Sean Brodon tripley for the steak out. We'll continue this discussion.
Triple isn't is he he's here, you here, tripley, what's up?

Speaker 6 (52:57):
Dog? And if you say sup, dog, ain't nothing but
what stays cut? Ain't nothing but a thing? And what what?
Who said it? Chick chicken Wing says that I can't remember.

Speaker 7 (53:10):
Somebody somebody says that. I think it might be Jays
Jays A big Jays says that I don't know. Somebody
said John said it? John John?

Speaker 5 (53:17):
Yeah, chick need Bill John vill John chicken wing with
a string or something from Burger Cake?

Speaker 6 (53:25):
Yeah like that. Why is chicken on a string at
Burger King? I have no idea. I don't think that's
I don't know. I don't know. B Bear, what you do?
You have that sounder where he's like, what did he say?
That's that's what John? She called me.

Speaker 5 (53:45):
He just called me boo bear be boo bear stop.
It a little horrible, so.

Speaker 7 (53:53):
Awful thing if you're calling your significant other boo bear stop?

Speaker 6 (53:58):
Okay. Thees on that one.

Speaker 7 (54:01):
Won three two one two five seven ninety Rob good morning.

Speaker 8 (54:07):
Good morning guys.

Speaker 17 (54:08):
Hey.

Speaker 19 (54:09):
So as far as what type of town this is,
I think it's a pretty It's hard to really chalk
it up because I think it's a pretty clear split
between Texans and Astros. You know, not that there's no
love for the Rockets, It's obviously there too. But I
think kind of what you guys were saying at the
very beginning, just the fact that this is Texas and
it's a it's always been recognized as the best football state.

(54:32):
The only states that I think can rival it is
would be California, maybe Florida. But at the end of
the day, he's starting from middle school, Friday night tykes,
all that stuff like this is we're born in Bradford football.
But the Astros history here over the last eight years
may have kind of created a little bit of swing there.

Speaker 8 (54:50):
I think the the X.

Speaker 19 (54:52):
Factor is gonna be I'm looking at it as the
X factor is gonna be those fans that are basketball
fans that are Rockets fans, And I think most of
the one that I know, if they had to pick
a secondary sport, it's going to go the Texans way.
And for that reason, I think this is still more
of a football town despite the good, the bad, and
the ugly. Obviously now we're in the good and we

(55:14):
may be shifting more towards the ugly. As far as
the Astros go. We'll see, but that's kind of where
I'm at. As far as what kind of town Houston is,
I'll let you guys respond to that.

Speaker 8 (55:24):
But Sewn, I also want to.

Speaker 19 (55:25):
Ask your opinion how you would shock up Boston between
Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics, because you got three historic
franchises right there, and I'd be curious to hear your
response on that.

Speaker 8 (55:35):
I'll hang up and listen, guys.

Speaker 6 (55:36):
And you'd be shocked too.

Speaker 5 (55:37):
Rob thanks about how the Boston Bruins evocal lotam emotion
there and I got a ton of buddies, and when
I was at ESPN, a lot of production people and
talent were from there, and I've spent a lot of
time in Boston. I can't answer it. I've tried, trust me,
I've tried. And even with Boston friends, I'll talk to.
One of my buddies just said that's a c's town,

(55:58):
Celtics all the way. Then the next guy I talked
to will say, oh no, no, when the Red Sox
are winning, it's a socks town Fenway Park, the history boom.
And then when Brady and Belichick were going even though
it me, you know out it's out. It's out in
the meadow land, I mean not the medal lands. It's
out in Foxborough and it's a and then they come
in there and it's like, well, wait a minute, Brady,
super Bowl, super Bowl, and I think what happened was

(56:19):
they got so successful, maybe kind of like here. I
don't think they took it for granted, but the expectations
were here, either winning a Super Bowl or you're you're
you're not, You're not on a radar. So I think
at different times and I'm not copping out on this Roger.
I mean, uh, Rob, I've tried to figure it out,
and I've gotten four different answers. The hardcore hockey fans

(56:39):
will tell you when the Boston Bruins are winning and
have a chance that they are that their fans love it.
But I would think that that's do you know, Bobby
Orr is not there anymore yet he's one of the
most popular Boston athletes ever, along with Ted Williams and
Bill Russell and Larry Bird and a big Poppy and
that grid mean all of them. Yet I still think
when it gets I would think that it's a Celtics

(57:04):
or a Red Sox town, and I lean towards the
Red Sox, maybe because that's my emotion for it, but
I've heard I mean, I'm literally I'm telling you you'll
very rarely find three dudes in a row or women
in a row that will say Patriotstown, Patriotstown, Patriotown, Red
Sox down, Red Sox, Red Sox Town. And when they're
all down, people still show up Fenway Park. Going back

(57:25):
to the way we judge it. So in my lifetime,
I have a tendency even though they dominated in football
and Brady and Belichick, I feel and football and we
see it tangible seventy some thousand people. I feel like
the majority old school Boston is Celtics and socks Socks first.

Speaker 6 (57:45):
Yeah, and I think it shifts. I do.

Speaker 5 (57:49):
The passion of it, and I think they've got so
comfortable with winning championships that they're just frustrated.

Speaker 20 (57:53):
Now.

Speaker 6 (57:53):
It's either I'm really frustrated because we're not playing.

Speaker 5 (57:56):
Good or we're winning a Super Bowl and so and
I almost feel like they've got there. Phil Oh, well,
we bought a lot of time because we won six
super Bowls. So to me, and it's Red Sox. Yeah,
I think it's Red Sox Celtics.

Speaker 6 (58:07):
I do.

Speaker 5 (58:08):
But I'm going to tell you even if those two
are one and two, either way you shift it. There'll
be a time when, like when Ray Bork was there
and I'm talking Phil Esposito, that is a Boston Bruins
top shelf. And then but come on, man, when of
the Patriots in Foxborough, guess what it's going to be.

Speaker 6 (58:27):
You're right, yeah, it's good.

Speaker 5 (58:28):
So you I'll tell you it's a good problem to
have a problem now because you got that. That's that's
about as good a sports town as years when it
comes to all year round, you got something going on.

Speaker 6 (58:38):
Great.

Speaker 5 (58:38):
And it's the worst college football town because they got
eighty million colleges, right, but they're not a big, you know,
bigger basketball team.

Speaker 6 (58:46):
But football Boston College.

Speaker 5 (58:48):
It's really Flutie was there and Matt Ryan, but it's
really not a it's a it's a great college. It's
a great college town if you want to drink and
talk academics and have some fun. It's not a great
college football town at all, Chestnut Hills about it. So
but I I that's the one town you could flip

(59:09):
the fourth one and put it first at any given time,
I'm going Red Sox, Red Sox, Celtics. Yet there'll be
something there say absolutely not. It's it's Brady and Belichick.
This is a Patriots town.

Speaker 7 (59:19):
Could you imagine being in Boston. I mean just think
about basically the run between three four, seven, eight to
twenty eleven, even in twenty four basically early two thousands
for that city with the Patriots and the Red Sox. Dude,
Brady was winning year after year, and then the Red

(59:40):
Sox finally got that first World Series title. They beat
the Yankees after being down three to nothing.

Speaker 5 (59:45):
Three nineteen to seven. I think at one points. Yeah,
but dude, go there, go there at any time when
go back and look at the watch the stadiums when
zdano'chara and you know when Braymond Borke before him, when
they were win when they were in Stanley Cup. I mean,
the go Nuts hockey fans crazy there and the Celtics
fans well.

Speaker 6 (01:00:06):
So I don't know, and I wish I could give
that answer.

Speaker 5 (01:00:09):
I've asked people who have born and bred there are
lifelong Boston fans and the majority of them, whether it's
true or not, for all of them, and maybe it's
the fact that those ballparks at the ballpark in the
stadium for or like the old Boston Garden, but the
new are downtown where New England Foxborough's removed, right, even
though it is Boston. The most of the ones I've

(01:00:30):
talked to have always mentioned the Celtics or Red Sox
near the top, and then have mixed in Patriots and
the Boston Bruns. But the majority of people I've talked
to are one of the other Red Sox or Celtics first,
with the other two close. Put it this way, they
love their Boston Bruins and that would probably be fourth.

Speaker 6 (01:00:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:00:50):
Then yet they every year we feel like we're talking
about them with a chance to be a Stanley Cup
type team at least in most years. I hope we
get hockey here in the city. Yeah, that'll be my
first season ticket in Houston. Yeah, I would want to
do that as well. That'd be awesome.

Speaker 7 (01:01:03):
All right, let's continue this discussion seven one three, two,
one two five seven. Iety, you will continue to take
your calls as well right here on Sports Talk seven
to eighty.

Speaker 6 (01:01:13):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Vicky D's nuts.

Speaker 7 (01:01:17):
We're not going to make these nuts because you never
have Nope. Oh man, we like to have fun around here.
You know where Jordan from today? Yeah, tacos and go
go tacos and go go. There's a little free pub
for your tacos and go go.

Speaker 6 (01:01:36):
So little tacos and go go.

Speaker 21 (01:01:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:01:38):
Oh yes, I would like one, please, I already bordered.

Speaker 5 (01:01:40):
Oh you'll never know. You have to ask you, I do.
I've asked before Mickey D's and that nobody. But if
tacos and go go it HiT's different. But we start
talking about inhos and you're ready for Mexican too. You
got a Mexican taco, didn't you? Tacos like three of them?

Speaker 6 (01:01:54):
I did? Yeah, trifecta. You know how you know how
we roll around here? Dog? Oh we know how you roll? Yeah,
comes Victuals.

Speaker 5 (01:02:01):
Do you realize tripley that I've offered Seawan breakfast like
eight thousand times and he's accepted once.

Speaker 6 (01:02:06):
Right, and he owes me like four forty five more. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:02:09):
Well, I have lost a couple of bets on the
way hitting. I know what perfect prior to the perfect
guy to bet with. Why if you're a friend, you
don't make you pay?

Speaker 6 (01:02:19):
It was twenty twenty two. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:02:21):
Yeah, like the first football season, who beat our ass
in the pick thems?

Speaker 6 (01:02:26):
Me and Ryan.

Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
I think I'm like a hundred breakfast coming from and
you know what, I'm the perfect guy to bet.

Speaker 6 (01:02:30):
With because I don't by the way, of course, he does. Yeah,
bet for one.

Speaker 22 (01:02:35):
We didn't we here don't do that. No, no, no,
on air. Air made a bet. I said that and
you said yes. I said, I'll give you those mores
and you lost.

Speaker 23 (01:02:44):
He said, you told me to pick the points, and
I never let you pick.

Speaker 6 (01:02:47):
I never picked the points. You said fourteens you did? No,
I didn't.

Speaker 9 (01:02:51):
Yes, you did.

Speaker 6 (01:02:52):
You lost those points. Let you know, let air, I'm
not going to make you pay. I never because I'm
a good Here we go boy. You would have said
something had you come in and won that bet.

Speaker 23 (01:03:03):
Right on the six's wins, I did have him getting thirteen.

Speaker 6 (01:03:06):
Now that's what I'm talking about. That's the one.

Speaker 5 (01:03:08):
And you know what I'm talking about. You lost, you
gave you said you gave me thirteen. Teen, you said
they're gonna win by more than two.

Speaker 23 (01:03:13):
Touchdowns wins, guys, for the season, it was the fourteen
he has.

Speaker 6 (01:03:18):
He didn't make a pick on thirteen wins as well.

Speaker 22 (01:03:20):
Yes, I know they're talking about the fourteen point okay,
but you're talking about the wins that.

Speaker 23 (01:03:24):
John said if I wanted to give him those points,
he would take him.

Speaker 6 (01:03:26):
But I didn't. That's why I didn't say nothing. Man,
But we sehn, we're good. You know how we do.
We still got that. I wouldn't make it.

Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
It wouldn't make well, I didn't hear. We didn't shake
on that, So that doesn't work either.

Speaker 8 (01:03:36):
Now.

Speaker 6 (01:03:37):
So I'm gonna be the I'm the triple E of
betting on which all went into thirteen. I don't remember.

Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
I could have sa I said, no, I remember, I
don't remember talking about it.

Speaker 6 (01:03:48):
I told me, you told me thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
No, I remember.

Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
I remember TRIPLEY bringing up don't you remember TRIPLEY bringing
up thirteen wins? And I said, well, let me think
about it. But I thought I never got back.

Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
To, Oh my god, what do you mean?

Speaker 9 (01:04:04):
Yo?

Speaker 6 (01:04:04):
Y glazing each other every day. I'm always on the
outside looking at now I'm in. Now, I'm in it.
Hold on, I got to talk to my people and
Bill I put both them. Yeah, I can't.

Speaker 5 (01:04:15):
Uh No, I told Triple if they get the thirteen
wins that gladly buy him a meal or play bet.
Get with it was und I don't remember what the
bet was, but yeah, but I also know that I'm
a good guy to bet because I don't make my
friends ever pay, I know, but at least when it
comes to breakfast.

Speaker 6 (01:04:31):
I literally owe you like six breakfast meals. So that's right.

Speaker 5 (01:04:35):
We're here just just to know that I got it, Okay, idea,
But I don't make friends pay.

Speaker 11 (01:04:42):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:04:43):
Uh, some of them wouldn't don't pay when they commit anyway,
So you just forget to the not you guys, right.
You know, we all have friends that say they're going
to do something and don't, and they keep saying they're
going to don't and they and it's like, uh remember that,
and and some bigger than that. I just gambling, just
ind life, make a commitment and then turn and sprint

(01:05:03):
from it.

Speaker 11 (01:05:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
I got a few of those guys out there too.
But then they'll be damned if they want to come
back and get yours.

Speaker 7 (01:05:08):
Oh they will one hey man, and act like nothing
ever happened, right the hell out of it, exactly that dead
bolt on the door, stay away five seveninety Roger, thanks
for rolling, buddy.

Speaker 6 (01:05:21):
What's going on?

Speaker 24 (01:05:23):
Not too much fellas, So uh, I can only answer
that question about who's talented is by how many calls field,
uh for for a day, because I'm not a regular
listener and regular callers. So uh, until further notice, is
the Astros talent It's not even close. Now we talk
about the Texans and last year, you know, Deshaotte, I mean,
I'm sorry, Uh, you know picked this league by storm

(01:05:47):
and you know, rightfully, so they did well, they drafted well,
they did everything that we di needed to do to
get relevant again.

Speaker 11 (01:05:53):
But that's just.

Speaker 24 (01:05:53):
Getting relevant and it's still you know, a work in progress.

Speaker 11 (01:05:58):
So until until.

Speaker 25 (01:05:59):
They they you know, excuse is like a you know,
like Missouri, you got to show this first. So yeah,
I just think until they get to that level, you know, uh,
you know, we'll support we'll support him. But then if
we get to that level, then we really show that
love at the Astros.

Speaker 24 (01:06:15):
You know, we we talk about the Astros twenty four
to seven. Man, Well, you know, look at how many
calls you calls you field about Ascros. You know, once
that calendar turns of February, it's again it's Astros. Now
there there's Texans talking, no doubt, but as far as
as far as relevancy and who owns this down and
it's for the notice, it's the Astros man, all right.

Speaker 26 (01:06:36):
I have a good one.

Speaker 6 (01:06:37):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
Roger I message from Mike Paul at Big Cheese sixty four.
He says, he says, on topic of a tenants when
local teams are bad, my daughter was a Texans cheerleader
in twenty one. So we went to every home game
and at least fifty percent of the seats were empty.

Speaker 6 (01:06:53):
Damn yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:06:54):
And he so you get a little bit. It's it's
interesting to see which one goes. And then we got
two times champion. It's a mix of all three, to
be honest, Sean and Brian. The Texans are looking solid. Also,
the Rockets are on the rise, and even though the
Houston Aationals got swept in the wild card, it's still
there for the taking.

Speaker 6 (01:07:09):
So there's one who believes all three or needle movers.

Speaker 5 (01:07:15):
It's I just think that there's and also made how
you've been you know, if you were depending on your age,
how you were raised, and if you're raised going to
Astros games, that may be the one that that you
know is your favorite. I'm just trying to step out
of it for somebody say, okay, not what my favorite
one to watch is?

Speaker 6 (01:07:34):
What? What is the What kind of town is it?

Speaker 9 (01:07:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:07:37):
I think it's the needle moving.

Speaker 5 (01:07:38):
Yes, sure, needle moving when things are going good and
when things when people are going to stick with you
when things aren't. And that's a question you can ask
in every city. But I just wonder what evokes the
most emotion, winning or losing.

Speaker 6 (01:07:50):
It's interesting. So I talked to Jamal Jamal, good morning.

Speaker 18 (01:07:54):
Hey guys, good morning. So my take on on the
topic is this is coming from a Hooper's point of view.
All right, So I think the the who I think
you had to college to college earlier that hit it
that that gave some good comments that it's kind of

(01:08:15):
a town of whatever you've done for me lately, and
then your Colla biscuit. It's a football state, so I
think it's a football town. But since the Astros have
been dominating recently right now, it's an Astros town. But
I just think the heart at its core, it's a

(01:08:38):
it's a it's a Texans town. It's a football state.
It's a football town. And the reason why I say
that because I think the height when you had the
Texans at its peaked early early to early twenty teens,
the JJ Watt era. I think you since the Texans
and I can't remember, you know, I'm too young. I'm
an eighties baby, so I'm too young to remember the

(01:09:00):
Oilers when they were in their heyday.

Speaker 11 (01:09:03):
But the Texans, I think it's still a first for
the Texans that haven't won a championship yet. So I
think with the Astros, like the Astros you had, they
were contenders in the late nineties, right the big g
O era, bagwear era. Then they went to the World
Series and the early two thousands had lost, so they

(01:09:28):
when they was able to turn it around under the
Crane era in twenty fifteen, when they went through all
the losing, you had a lot of Astros fans that
remembered that time when we were close but no cigars.
So when we won, it was like all that anxiety
built up and then now you're reaping the show with
the current era. The Astros is now and I think

(01:09:51):
the Texans have that also because you have the Oilers.
We went without a team for a little bit, and
then you had the JJ whe Ray Johnson, Arian Foster
era that twenty twelve, the Kobiak era. I mean, it
was crazy. We wasn't even winning yet. Before we even
like even before we even got to the playoffs, that team,

(01:10:13):
the craze and the height around football was crazy. So
I think even so, I just I'm gonna just leave
it at that. I think it's right now. It's a
AHOs town because it's a what have you done for
me lately? But I think at its court, and I'll
add this, I think it's still two a little bit
of bragging rights with the state of Texas that wants

(01:10:34):
the Texas to win before Dallas Cowboys get another chip
because even though they were a dynasty in the early nineties,
it was so long ago. So I think that's a
little bit at play too. So if we were able
to win, you kind of got that bragging rights for
the state of Texas. And then I'll just let y'all
get your time in on that.

Speaker 6 (01:10:54):
Appreciate you, Jamal.

Speaker 7 (01:10:55):
I love hearing this perspective from everybody, man, because it's
different per caller.

Speaker 6 (01:11:00):
Everyone's had a different yeah and a different reason, right,
And also they all.

Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
They all lend credence to the the original question that
we'd asked yesterday at the end of the show to
tease for today, and it even the calls, it evokes
a lot of emotion.

Speaker 6 (01:11:16):
Yeah and yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:11:17):
You could even reverse and say which one if they
were all three in a championship series, which one would
crush you the most if they lost?

Speaker 6 (01:11:26):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (01:11:27):
We talked about when they win, because in truth is
everybody is a what have you done for me lately?

Speaker 6 (01:11:32):
City?

Speaker 5 (01:11:32):
They just are everyone your sports team to be done.
I want to know this year now, this year's one,
I want, we want another one, then we want another.
And that's normal in all fan bases, doesn't matter what
level of sports. But I wonder on the other side,
which one would hurt the most if you're they're in
a series, a championship series. Super Bowl's one game and
then the other ones are seven game series? Which one

(01:11:53):
if you came out of it and all three lost,
would you be distraughts not the right word. It's sports.
Some get destroyed. I mean, I'll get over it quick,
But which one would wild one would keep you down longer?
Which one would be like.

Speaker 6 (01:12:07):
Oh man, damn it, we were there.

Speaker 5 (01:12:09):
And if they were all lost in dramatic fashion fourth
quarter throw by the other guy? Uh, a walk off
home run? How he can drive off the foul?

Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:12:18):
A walk off home run or a knockdown three when
you're up by two at the buzzer to lose. And
I'm just the reason I say that because that, just
like anything else things are going good, people may not
want to call or don't go on Twitter when things
are going bad. What do they do? They want to
call the frustrating? Sure they are. Yeah, so it's the
same thing here. So which one would cut you the deepest?

(01:12:40):
To lose and walk off fashion of the three sports
sucks as a question, but that may give you the
answer on which one.

Speaker 7 (01:12:48):
Right, Yeah, that's a good point, right, seven one, three, two,
two five seven ninety Larry Bill Cowboy Darryl John don't
go anywhere. Will continue to take your calls next as
we continue with this discussion right here on Sports Talk
seven ninety Kobe Stevens Golf Pawer Cope Stevens dot Com.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Then Salisbury show continues.

Speaker 5 (01:14:34):
Oh so you don't want to do Oh so you
don't want to ruin a class with, but you'll ruin
everything else with.

Speaker 6 (01:14:39):
Yes, that's how you're looking at that's enhancing it. You
don't have to enhance me.

Speaker 5 (01:14:43):
On Moon in Hand in hand Brooksy seven two five
seven ninety, let's we'll start with John. What's happening to John?

Speaker 9 (01:14:56):
Hey?

Speaker 27 (01:14:56):
You got Hey, Brian, I wanted to ask you. Do
you think the goldilock baseballs are brought in last night?

Speaker 7 (01:15:02):
So it's funny you say that because it's the ballpark
I was talking.

Speaker 27 (01:15:06):
I made the prediction, Yeah, those balls are gonna be
flying out last night, and I wish they had examined
them because I bet anything.

Speaker 7 (01:15:12):
So I I one hundred percent think that those Goldieloks
balls were in there. But also, like Sean just mentioned, Dude,
the Yankee Stadium is such a crackerjack box.

Speaker 6 (01:15:21):
It is. It's unbelievable hid in league field. Yeah, it's
like that.

Speaker 7 (01:15:25):
The fields in Williamsport Volpie's Grand Slam. The only ballpark
that would have been a home run Yankee Stadium.

Speaker 5 (01:15:32):
Well, will Smith goes apo and it's a fly ball
that normally is like fifteen feet before the warning track, drifts, drifts,
drifts and lands in the seat.

Speaker 6 (01:15:40):
It was so like anti climacty.

Speaker 5 (01:15:43):
I mean, even Joe Davis like, well what yeah, okay,
in to the point where it's like, did that ball
just go over the fence? But yeah, just like that,
did the routine fly balls go out?

Speaker 7 (01:15:51):
They were definitely in play, though, I firmly believe it's funny.
I was texting some buddies before the game started and
I said, you know, those baseballs are going to be
in there.

Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
Yep.

Speaker 27 (01:15:58):
I I knew it was gonna happened, and you know,
I wasn't surprised, and they'll probably be around that they
played one they play one more game, and uh, they
played in New York again, right, yeah, so I you know, baseball,
I mean just major League Baseball is just you know,
this seems so corrupt to me, you know, of all
the sports and that that's what's that's what's annoying to me.

Speaker 8 (01:16:23):
And uh, you know, getting.

Speaker 27 (01:16:24):
Back to your question, like is this a which sports
town is this? I mean, I think it's whoever's hot.
I remember going to the uh you know, when the
Rockets were hot. I had season tickets back when Yao
and Tracy McGrady and those guys were here. And I'll
never forget how our test was flagrantly elbowed in the
job by Kobe and they kicked out our test. I
mean it was the most unbelievable call I ever saw,

(01:16:46):
and he was suspended for a game.

Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
And you know our test didn't do anything.

Speaker 27 (01:16:49):
And so I don't know, there's a lot of favoritism
in basketball.

Speaker 8 (01:16:53):
That's what I that's what I dislike about basketball.

Speaker 27 (01:16:56):
But I mean, I know all sports have their have
their tainted moments, I guess, but but no, I I
really think that those Olilocks balls were sent in just
think they did against the Astros. Remember like when the
Yankees were down to the Astros. Major Major League Baseball
brought those balls in so the you know, when the
Astros were at Yankee Stadium.

Speaker 28 (01:17:15):
So I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:17:16):
It's uh, we'll see what happens. But I think the
Dodgers will still close it out. Yeah, we appreciate the call, John.

Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
Yeah, thanks.

Speaker 5 (01:17:23):
I do think the Dodgers will close it out. So
let's talk to Larry. Larry, good morning.

Speaker 9 (01:17:29):
Hey guys.

Speaker 29 (01:17:29):
I'll say something about a cold beer while ago I
did popped the top, headed to the golf course, and
I'll be thinking about y'all.

Speaker 6 (01:17:35):
Man, where are we playing today? What track we on?
I like it in bass drop textas at co Okay,
there you go, man. What kind of what are we
knocking down this morning?

Speaker 3 (01:17:45):
Oh?

Speaker 12 (01:17:45):
I don't know.

Speaker 29 (01:17:46):
I'm not very good. I just I did drink beer
and have a good time, you know.

Speaker 6 (01:17:50):
So just so bass drop?

Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:17:52):
Have you have you ever played golf in Columbus, Texas?

Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (01:17:56):
Absolutely you Ever you ever played at the New Covey
Course at the Easy Ranch?

Speaker 8 (01:18:02):
I have not.

Speaker 5 (01:18:03):
I'm telling you if you get invited, don't miss it.
I think it's as good a golf course there is
in this state, and it is funinety think little old
Columbus text, I freaking love it has some good golf
over by where you're at. Man, some great areas in
that Bass Drop area. So Joe, we wish well, I know,
I wish I was out throwing balls sticking.

Speaker 6 (01:18:24):
Count.

Speaker 5 (01:18:24):
Mean, you know we're all be at some point today
hitting the golf call somewhere.

Speaker 8 (01:18:30):
How long is he go out one more week?

Speaker 29 (01:18:32):
Probably?

Speaker 5 (01:18:33):
Yes, that's that. That's when the that's when he's eligible
to come off.

Speaker 29 (01:18:37):
I are well, I just soon he just sit out
for that Detroit game too, and save up those three
touchdowns three touchdown passes for Dallas captain.

Speaker 5 (01:18:46):
My man, he's gonna need They're gonna need him in
that Detroit cave.

Speaker 6 (01:18:49):
As much as that team scores.

Speaker 5 (01:18:52):
Goodness gracious, yeah, they they score from the parking lot
during tailgating.

Speaker 6 (01:18:56):
It's unreal. They're pretty good.

Speaker 12 (01:18:58):
There's something else.

Speaker 5 (01:19:00):
Enjoyed it right now YouTube brother, nice old beer. Ready
to go hit the golf golf course. I love that.

Speaker 7 (01:19:07):
Sounds like a great man. You're probably not gonna play
a lot of golf. There's eighty percent chance for in
today and for like the only only a bitch, whoa, whoa, No,
it's just only a bitch wouldn't deal with the British
Open weather. Well, all I'm saying is when you start
to play in conditions like that, you create bad habits
the tournament dog.

Speaker 5 (01:19:24):
It's just sometimes sometimes I'm more on your on your
mechanics because you know, you gotta you've got to strike
the dog. Can't take you know, the divot and get
you to chili dip if you take the wrong type
of divot before the golf ball you got maybe you
play lift cleaning place. Okay, car path only anyway, he
wants to play car path only.

Speaker 6 (01:19:43):
Not this cat. No, it's the worst. It is.

Speaker 5 (01:19:46):
You just you might as well just walk the golf course.
You might as well just not play better, right, so
we'll see. No that that's not the way, Brian, That's
the easy way out. Sometime gotta do you just it's
like be the iron Byron back and through back and
through right. Is it eighty percent chance of rain?

Speaker 9 (01:20:00):
It is?

Speaker 7 (01:20:00):
Yeah, it is. Joe Barnett gave us the update. Is
that Joe during the commercial break.

Speaker 6 (01:20:06):
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:20:08):
Rond of Moss gives us the Ronza Mosque, gives us
the Force updates, and then Joe Barnett gave us.

Speaker 6 (01:20:14):
I'm so dialed in.

Speaker 5 (01:20:15):
I don't scaring me.

Speaker 6 (01:20:18):
It's not about scaring, it's about by the way, you
were told your your piece of garbage. Just so you know,
Oh that's right. I did. Yeah, I was told that.

Speaker 30 (01:20:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:20:26):
Yeah, you're just told you as well. Tripoli. Yeah, who said, uh,
your president Joe Biden?

Speaker 5 (01:20:33):
Yeah, you don't vote like he does, your your garbage.
He ain't the first one he's probably called? Is that
probably not sorry though, is Joe does?

Speaker 11 (01:20:42):
Joe?

Speaker 5 (01:20:42):
I thought me and Joey b were on good terms
and they're about to take the garbage out here?

Speaker 6 (01:20:51):
Where are you been?

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
Dog?

Speaker 6 (01:20:52):
Come on? Were you bad?

Speaker 9 (01:20:54):
Ben?

Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
Lay a little low? Literally laying low on the beach.
Ain't that a beach?

Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:21:00):
But I just want to let you go. I just
read it. I just okay, I just want to let
you know, okay.

Speaker 5 (01:21:04):
Seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety Brandon Bill, Cowboy,
Darryl Joe don't go anywhere you guys are next as
beginning the eight o'clock hour continue, It's just this discussion
on what kind of town this is, Astros, Rockets or Texans.

Speaker 6 (01:21:16):
Next sports track seven eighty KD E Houston k t
V HD two Houston Nighthart Radio station.

Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
Yes, as a Rocket.

Speaker 6 (01:21:28):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home team.

Speaker 13 (01:21:35):
Saulisbury oldburyby Houston.

Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 6 (01:21:42):
Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (01:21:45):
To usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (01:21:48):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 7 (01:21:55):
Rockets off tonight, Yankees avoid the sweep. They beat the
Dodgers in Game four, Game five tonight in the Bronx
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. The
discussion that we're having. Texans are six and two. Astros
won the division once again in the AO West. Rockets
with a young corps, just started their season, looked to
improve from a five hundred season last year. So what

(01:22:17):
kind of town is this? In your opinion? As a
fan Texans, Rockets, Astros. We've been taking your calls all
morning long on at seven one three two point two
five seven ninety. Got a couple guys who have been
holding on for a wild out scout out to them
first to stuck to Bill Bill, Good morning.

Speaker 29 (01:22:34):
Hey guys.

Speaker 31 (01:22:35):
Different perspective because I only lived in Houston six years.
Moved in November of twenty eighteen. The vibe, just pure
vibe I getting year round. And that's how I'm measuring
this year round, is this is an Astros town. That's
the sports vibe I have gotten. Now in football season,
it's it's all Texans.

Speaker 6 (01:22:55):
Year round, right, the year round being the key, right,
that's a good point. Bill year round.

Speaker 31 (01:23:01):
I mean, people will even now it's it's we're coming
up on November, we're still talking Astros chrise. Of course
the series is still playing. You guys, start a conversation
on January tewod with the Astros. They'll talk Astros for
four hours with you here. And that that's again, that's
just the vibe I've got just from picking up from
people the other You got your rocket niche fans and

(01:23:23):
obviously tons of football fans. We're gonna pull for the
for the Texans, and then your old oiler guard who
you've got to be a specific agent and remember the
Boilers now. And so that's where I'm looking at it from.
And I've to you walk around in the middle of
the winter and go to the malls where they're shopping.
People weren't Astros care there, weren't Astros hats, jackets, hats, caps,

(01:23:46):
maybe Texas. I just what I see, what I visualize,
and sean to your point about Boston real quick. You
mentioned Boston is a college town. You're absolutely right, except.

Speaker 5 (01:23:54):
For one sport that's college football and oh hockey. Oh yes,
college hockey rules there. Yeah, the frozen four at rules
in Boston, no doubt, totally.

Speaker 31 (01:24:04):
And being Pott, yes it's right, Northeastern and Harvard and
you can't that's the hottest ticket in Boston when that
is a great point.

Speaker 5 (01:24:13):
All those other things, Bill, we talk about the bead
pot and the frozen for anything to do with college
hockey maybe as big there as any football as Alabama football.
You know what I'm saying is in Alabama you are
one zerred percent correct.

Speaker 8 (01:24:25):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
It's that's the truth. There's just no, it's not a
good college football town. But it's a great college hockey region,
no doubt about it. Oh yeah, oh yeah, that is
al We eat hockey here in Houston. Let's say it
again until we get it. Cowboy Daryl, good morning.

Speaker 6 (01:24:40):
Hey was up fellas.

Speaker 32 (01:24:42):
I'm gonna I tell you from a different perspective. You know,
I'm a Cowboy fan living in a Texan town. But
one thing I will always look at is that it's
gonna always be a football city. Now I look at
this this three sport thing, you know, mainly like having
three sons. You know, even when the Rockets at Malone,
they were making the playoffs and then with the Ralph

(01:25:03):
Saunds and the Chemoliji one era, they were in the
playoffs all the time. But when they finally got that championship,
Houston was the I mean, the Rockets were the flavor.
They were, you know, they would call it, call themselves
tuston and back to back and and then you know, uh,
even when the Astros had bus real and badwell and
they're making their playoff runs a couple of words, rare

(01:25:24):
real serious, uh trip and and you know, and then
finally as two of the comes and you know, after
eventually they get the world championship and going to you know,
eight or nine year run.

Speaker 8 (01:25:36):
But the one thing that I will never forget.

Speaker 32 (01:25:42):
All us were lost that walk off that you was
talking about Sean to the Steelers.

Speaker 6 (01:25:47):
That's kind of like that walk off.

Speaker 32 (01:25:49):
Yes, they threw a parade for losing in the Dome
all the way from the Astrodome, I mean, all the
way from in the Colonial Airport. I mean, I'm sitting
there as a Cowboys like.

Speaker 6 (01:26:04):
Man, they lost. Wait, they did what.

Speaker 8 (01:26:07):
They threw a parade.

Speaker 6 (01:26:08):
They threw a parade in the Astro Dome.

Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
You know what Bob said, next year, We're gonna kick
the son of a bitch here.

Speaker 6 (01:26:15):
He can say that. You can say, yeah, yeah, you're
allowed to say that on radio. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:26:20):
What happened is because a lot of people you're talking
about the one that they called out of bounds, right,
you're talking about that. Yeah, yeah, is that The people
to this day still on call him in bounds, and
so they believe they won.

Speaker 6 (01:26:31):
Oh yeah, there's no doubt that was.

Speaker 5 (01:26:32):
A that's a that's his controversial call as that's ever
been in Houston sports, no doubt about it.

Speaker 32 (01:26:41):
And they threw a parade for I mean, I mean,
you were all the way from in the Coal Airport.

Speaker 8 (01:26:46):
Man, it was all with and fill the dome.

Speaker 12 (01:26:49):
Up for losing.

Speaker 32 (01:26:50):
And then when when all is lost, man, there was
so many cowboy fans that the Cowboys picked up out
of Houston because they were was void of football. And
I looked at it like when it finally got the Texans,
it was almost like a prodigal son coming back home.
You know, we gotta finally got out a squad. And

(01:27:12):
the thing that got me, even though the Astros was like,
you know, it's not like having those three sons, you know,
no matter what the Texans, uh, no matter what the
Astros of the Rockets did, it was always like those other.

Speaker 8 (01:27:29):
Two sons, look what I got, I got two championships.

Speaker 32 (01:27:32):
It was always that, well, I still got this baby
boy here and that that that I'm really pulling for.
And that shows the love of this city, that for
that Texans team even during their lean years because they
had missed football so much.

Speaker 8 (01:27:47):
And now I'm gonna hang up and listen to those.

Speaker 6 (01:27:49):
Thank you go boy, Darryl. So it's early January.

Speaker 7 (01:27:54):
Nineteen eighty A crowd of over seventy thousand Oiler fans
welcome home the Houston Oilers after they had lost the
AFC Championship Game to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yes, they lost
to them two years in a row. Yes, in the
AFC title game, and they were welcome back by over
seventy thousand fans despite the loss.

Speaker 6 (01:28:14):
What in the are we doing? Just no, I'm celebrating
the man. Why I gotta have.

Speaker 7 (01:28:24):
There's got to be some oiler fans that some older,
older guys that were either there or around during that time.

Speaker 5 (01:28:30):
I want to know why, because I'm going to tell
you why. I'm assuming it was the same year. Right,
I wasn't here. I'm thinking about me watching football when
I was in college. No, I was in high school
or even I got vit as I know we wasn't that.

Speaker 6 (01:28:44):
Wasn't that the catch? Did they called out amounts or
a drop? Was Wasn't that the one?

Speaker 5 (01:28:52):
If I'm not mistaken? In nineteen wasn't it a wide
receiver with controversial call? Wasn't that that loss that Houston historian?

Speaker 7 (01:29:00):
Can I mean I in nineteen ninety, nineteen seventy nine,
excuse me, nineteen eighty, well, I mean it is that?

Speaker 28 (01:29:08):
So?

Speaker 6 (01:29:08):
It wasn't so on one of the years they got
their ass with thirty four to five. That wasn't one
I'm talking about.

Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
Wasn't it a catch? Wasn't it a catch in the
end zone? I was still in high school. I'm trying
to think back, and you talk about a vocal emotion.
Wasn't that the one? Were they were moving on.

Speaker 6 (01:29:22):
In the playoffs?

Speaker 8 (01:29:23):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:29:23):
TD denied, Yes, my Mike, uh was a mike Renfro.
I'm still still think it was a Mike Renfro. Who Mike,
there you go made the catch. And that's still the
most it's as long as I can remember, and I
haven't lived here my whole life. That's the most controversial
mishappened in pro sports that I can remember here from

(01:29:45):
all the pro sports team. And so I think that's
the celebration was that was our game. I think that's
exactly why they celebrated. Okay, but they lost regardless.

Speaker 6 (01:29:54):
But but that that's well. Talk to the people that
were here. Talk to it. I'll tell you I've heard
it a million times. This is the first time. This
is I'm pleating this. Oh yeah, mike.

Speaker 5 (01:30:03):
Renfrill, that was a catch and that they didn't call
a catch, and the fans still to this day it's
as memorable a play that's ever been in Love You
Blue in Houston other history.

Speaker 6 (01:30:15):
Okay, so I'm watching the catch. It's one hunter.

Speaker 22 (01:30:18):
They called that it They didn't what what you got
two feet in down feet in bound to control the.

Speaker 5 (01:30:23):
Catch and remember no instant replay, right they called it
another way?

Speaker 9 (01:30:27):
Man?

Speaker 6 (01:30:27):
Why are we why?

Speaker 9 (01:30:28):
Well?

Speaker 6 (01:30:29):
Why are we partying? Well, none for losing.

Speaker 5 (01:30:32):
Now that's another good question to see how many fans
are on your side with that or how many are
or disagree with you saying we should have thrown a
party on that. I don't know, I wouldn't hear, but
seventy plus dousand and you'd have thought they won the championship.

Speaker 6 (01:30:43):
Yeah. Wow.

Speaker 6 (01:33:11):

Speaker 9 (01:33:11):

Speaker 6 (01:33:11):

I don't want I could love fat with I could
love fat right with an air for a piece, so
I could love fat.

Speaker 6 (01:33:21):
I could love fat right. But I don't slap flat.

Speaker 5 (01:33:24):
We ain't slapping flat, no slow song, collap on that song, okay,
and you threw in a little.

Speaker 6 (01:33:30):
Dirk and then who's the third You wanted a third one?

Speaker 7 (01:33:32):
Yeah, because you could throw in like, you know, maybe
a little dove step type thing, little remix diplo, oh.

Speaker 6 (01:33:38):
Diplo on these nuts, okay, down on the stuts. You
can't say, I'm thinking lap childish. I mean I said,

(01:33:58):
you're laughing like you're eight. Okay, but that's a classic diploy.
He's nuts dip nuts.

Speaker 2 (01:34:10):
In here.

Speaker 5 (01:34:11):
But that is a hell of a colauso. Who do
we call a little Dirk Morgan diplo on the nuts?
Do you think he's ever heard that? Somebody says, Hey, man,
I'm diploy.

Speaker 6 (01:34:23):
Diplong. He's nuts, bro. It's such an eighth grade I know,
but it's good. Never gets all lives never and it travels.

Speaker 5 (01:34:35):
You're you're laughing like you just listened to Eddie Murphy
in a comedy or he the Richard pri just took
the places in comedy you haven't been. Oh my cla nuts,
I couldn't resist travels man, I'm all for a colown.

Speaker 9 (01:34:53):
Man.

Speaker 6 (01:34:54):
It's a good class it is. Oh my gosh, they
had the people out on their You Go card.

Speaker 2 (01:35:01):
You know what.

Speaker 6 (01:35:03):
The non big Go card collabs worked it hits. Did
you did you have? Did you have?

Speaker 9 (01:35:09):
My guy?

Speaker 6 (01:35:09):
Who's on all of them?

Speaker 9 (01:35:10):
Now?

Speaker 6 (01:35:11):
Who's my guy that's on all of them?

Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
Now?

Speaker 5 (01:35:12):
We talked about he's an actor to Uh, he's on
with He's got got them all, man, I think he's
on one with wall and we just called it.

Speaker 6 (01:35:19):
He's mister clab King he's the rapp.

Speaker 5 (01:35:22):
Oh my gosh. Yeah, we just talked regularly. He's on
like fifty clabs. I think is one of them.

Speaker 6 (01:35:29):
Gosh, it's driving me nuts now, Uh that what we're
losing our mind? Dude?

Speaker 11 (01:35:37):
Yeah, I know?

Speaker 6 (01:35:38):
And uh, why can't we come?

Speaker 5 (01:35:41):
What's the actor? We just talked about him. He's in
the He's in the movie post Malone? Just here, yes, poets,
I mean did you have I mean post malone? Did
you have post Malone? And and Luke Comb's on your
on your bingo car card? Work works, It's exactly right.

(01:36:01):
So diploes and nuts.

Speaker 6 (01:36:04):
God, oh, let's talk to Joe Joe Joe. Hi, Joe
Joe in the seventh grade. So what's happening about it?

Speaker 20 (01:36:17):
Yeah, you're having too much wrong, brothers. Absolutely doubt I
was one of those adiots that that was waiting for
the Oilers back in the eighty and uh, but most
of us were not. It was it was a little
bit of a bad call, but it was mostly because
of a great deal that they had. You know, we
were always the second best team in the conference. We

(01:36:40):
were behind Pittsburgh. If it wasn't going to the Steelers,
we would have probably been to the Super.

Speaker 1 (01:36:45):
Bowl a couple of times.

Speaker 20 (01:36:46):
But anyway, Uh, I'm just gonna I'm gonna tell you
guys what this whole man things about, what kind of
time this is every I love the Astros, I love
the Texans, I love the Rockets. But let's assume that
all three of them weren't in the playoffs. I'm not
watching the baseball playoffs. I'm not watching the Rockets playoffs.

(01:37:10):
But I'm gonna be watching as many football playoffs as
I can. I love I love those playoffs. And of
course leading up to the Super Bowl. You'd have to
shoot me to not watch the Super Bowl. So that's
one low banch version of what this town is.

Speaker 6 (01:37:29):
Okay, thank you, Joe, excuse me, Let's get out to
Drew Drew. Good morning, Good morning guys. How you doing,
good man, what's on your mind?

Speaker 1 (01:37:41):
I was in the.

Speaker 28 (01:37:42):
Acidom when the Oilers came back in January of nineteen eighty.

Speaker 12 (01:37:46):
It was one of the best sports moments.

Speaker 28 (01:37:49):
In my entire life.

Speaker 6 (01:37:50):
How old were you back then? If you don't mind
me asking, I don't mind.

Speaker 28 (01:37:53):
I was eleven years old and I went with my
dad and you. It's it's hard to explain the love
affair that Houston had with the Oilers. It was unlike
anything I've ever seen since with any team. The love
you blue pom pom's waving, the song playing, and we

(01:38:14):
get Earl Campbell, and Earl Campbell was like a god.
To me, he was a giant that walked the earth,
and I think that's how he was to everybody.

Speaker 12 (01:38:22):
We had bomb on.

Speaker 28 (01:38:23):
The sidelines and it was just an incredible time, and
we absolutely felt like we had been robbed by the
officials when they disallowed the Mike Renfro touchdown, and we
were so close, and the Steelers were so good and
so powerful, and we were so close to beating them,
and we really felt like next year would be the year.

Speaker 12 (01:38:45):
And I remember it's funny.

Speaker 28 (01:38:47):
My dad is an old school Southern Baptist, and we
did not curse in our household, and we did not
tolerate cursing in our household. And so when bub said,
you know, last year we knocked on the door. This
year we beat on the door, and next year we're
gonna kick the son of a bitch in. My first
thought was absolute horror that my dad was going to

(01:39:09):
be upset. But I looked up and he was just
roaring with everybody else. So we all went nuts, and
we really thought that next year we would win. We
would beat the Steelers and win the Super Bowl. It
was a celebration of that team and everything we thought,
all the possibilities.

Speaker 7 (01:39:26):
Appreciate the call, Drew. Good perspective from an eleven year
old Drew when he was at that game. And let's
talk to Paul forget to break Paul.

Speaker 6 (01:39:34):
Good morning, Good morning guys. We love the show. Thank you, SARP.

Speaker 7 (01:39:39):
So let's see you were Yeah, you want to talk
about that eighties Oilers team.

Speaker 33 (01:39:44):
Yeah, so I was in college at the time. I
went to a lot of the games. My dad was
an original season ticket holder.

Speaker 6 (01:39:50):
You have to remember that the the.

Speaker 33 (01:39:53):
The Steelers and the Oilers were in the same division,
and for the three years in a row during the
season they split, they split the home games, and so
they were really competitive and they were to echo with
Joe and Drew said they were the second best team
in the league. Uh in both both conferences, frankly and
but but what's more is I think the character of

(01:40:16):
the team.

Speaker 8 (01:40:17):
You had, you know, bum.

Speaker 6 (01:40:18):
Phillips as a coach, and he was he was great.
The team loved him. You had you had guys that
were so tough.

Speaker 33 (01:40:25):
Dad Pastor in he had broken ribs and was in
the hospital when a guy named Byron Donsons had come
up with a flat jacket. He came in his hospital
room literally with a guy with a with a baseball bat.
He put that flat jacket on and this guy took
a swing as hard as he could and and Pastor
and he says, I can't believe that I need that.

(01:40:46):
So with broken ribs in that flag jacket, he went
in and played, played his guts out. And so you
had a You had these characters on the team that
were tough, they were lovable. There was zero drama. There
wasn't you know, the offensive coordinator taking a swing at
the defensive coordinator, uh, or the defensive coordinator coordinator taking

(01:41:08):
a swing at the offensive coordinator on the on the
sideline like you had during the you know, the the.

Speaker 6 (01:41:15):
Will Brian Buddy Ryan days. Correct, you didn't have any
of that.

Speaker 33 (01:41:20):
You had lovable characters that were tough as all get out,
and you know, like Drew said, there was a love
affair with the team and uh.

Speaker 26 (01:41:30):
And you know that one play with Renfro, that.

Speaker 33 (01:41:36):
One play was singularly responsible for having instant replay right now.

Speaker 8 (01:41:41):
So that's what started it, and.

Speaker 5 (01:41:44):
It was much needed before ran after that. As long
as they get it right, Yeah, they would.

Speaker 7 (01:41:51):
For love you blue yep seven seven nineties number to join,
will continue to take your calls. Next on Sports Talk
seven to eighty were the Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 6 (01:42:18):
This is what got people jacked up the grades. Think
about that all for that seventy thousand person parade and
pep rally for a team that lost jamming this waited
pom Poms. I'm glad it brings good memories back for some.
This cut this Yankee Doodle Dandy, we going to the

(01:42:40):
Civil War. He come on, you're gonna be like what
are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
Son?

Speaker 6 (01:42:49):
Oh god? Well, well, well, I feel like this is
a song that like fourth graders sing it like they're
fourth fourth grade where they're watching walking step.

Speaker 5 (01:43:04):
In steps like fourth graders, like at their promotion or
whatever they call it, like one of their plays up
on stage in the in front of the cafeteria.

Speaker 6 (01:43:14):
I'm still with you, dog, this cut doesn't do much
for me.

Speaker 7 (01:43:17):
Like you learn how to sing this all year long
in your music class and then you performed it. Yeah,
and he's like, ho'stans everybody in the front now right
here there you go.

Speaker 6 (01:43:36):
Let's go. Come on, Briano. I can't I just hustan.
Just give me some rhythm. Now, ready to give me
some rhythm? Thenlers Houston slowed down. This is terrible. This
I can't get into this. This is awful. Turn up.

(01:44:02):
Oh yeah, this is brutal. Why why was this like? Now,
I want you to picture the crowd like you're back
in the eighties. Oh I can only imagine, dude, the.

Speaker 5 (01:44:14):
Guys had feathered part of the hair. Think about the clothes,
big wide collars. Come on, everybody rocking bushes? Oh yeah,
oh yeah, the chat. You gotta take up a chat
day to it. No doubt got around then.

Speaker 9 (01:44:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:44:30):
I don't think so. I don't think so. That was
when they told you to eat oysters to make yourself?
Do I make you want?

Speaker 6 (01:44:38):
Is that really what it? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:44:41):
Oh yeah that's what they say. That's a word on
the street. Here's what you don't like. Oysters on a hashell,
oh my gosh, with raw horse radish and hot spicy sauce,
and then put a little red red hot on top
of that too.

Speaker 6 (01:44:56):
The hell out of here.

Speaker 5 (01:44:56):
I'm on those like a chicken on a june bug
dog kill. Oysters on a half shell, nice fresh ones
that aren't like they aren't to you know, the fishy
tape that are just a little more, a little less.
Uh yeah, you don't want that, Okay, but did you

(01:45:17):
just say what? What did you say about the ladies? No?
It was both dudes and and what men and women?
Would you everybody's probably rocking bushes back then. It was
nineteen eighty bro, I mean yeah, yeah, somebody somebody had
a landing. See if you play whoa, whoa, what do
you man? You're outside the box? Yeah, what happened to you? Seriously?

(01:45:45):
What happened to you man about l I V I
N brother suck no secies. Were you at the parade
back then?

Speaker 1 (01:45:54):
Lay my shame on you. But I know where you're
coming from.

Speaker 6 (01:45:57):
My brother.

Speaker 11 (01:46:02):
Hey, I'm sixty eight.

Speaker 6 (01:46:10):
Calling in to let you know what do you mean?
Just nineteen eighty still exist?

Speaker 9 (01:46:16):
Oh man, it's so cool.

Speaker 1 (01:46:18):
Hey, hey, hey, hey, Lalima, if you ever meet my wife,
she's gonna get in your case. It was all but
the third advissage. Okay, hey, hey listen and Sean, if
you guys give me just a few seconds.

Speaker 11 (01:46:32):
This is something new. We were there.

Speaker 1 (01:46:34):
We were there in nineteen eighty. But maybe some Joe,
the other guy that called there was another pet Bradley
before eighty. It was in nineteen seventy nine. Because obviously
they've done with the House of Paint. I'm pretty sure
you've all heard of that. But in seventy nine, Sean,
and if you have some time, I don't know how

(01:46:55):
well you connected with some of the ex media from
the olders here. Maybe one of the guys thank yeah,
you know Giffer Nielsen very well. He was he was
he worked for a living. Or maybe one day you
can have uh damn Pastorino and I'm pretty sure you're
connected with Yeah, yeah, because those games were warm.

Speaker 9 (01:47:17):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:47:17):
I used to go to those games, the Steelers against
against the Oilers, and like the other gentleman said, those
were the two best teams in the Neil. But Sean
and Brian. There was another Pebrelly which my wife and
I went the old Sean the old offices of the
Houston Owners used to be on Maine. He used to
call the epsent or EPSOM building. I don't recall the name,

(01:47:40):
and uh, there was another Pebrelly outside, not in the dome,
and I remember clearly. Everybody starts printing the word uh.
So everybody took off man to the building and as
soon as you knew that place was backed out, had
the buses that were coming from the airport. They couldn't
even getting to the building because it was packed with

(01:48:02):
crazy Oiler fans, so they had to park the buses
before the building, and the players start getting off the
buses and the fans went crazy. It was just the
spirit of the Oilers and because the ashes weren't that good,
and I would see the Rockets had just moved from
San Diego. It's not not mistaken there's the Rockets moved
from San Diego in seventy nine or eighty, because I

(01:48:23):
just moved to Houston from Larado, Texas. So it's more
about the spirit, Sean. I used to have me an
old uh the snake jersey. Yeah, remember when they traded
for Kenny. They also traded for Casper. Do you remember that?

Speaker 28 (01:48:39):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:48:39):
Yeah they were, But yeah, it was most It was
most about the spirit too, and because football is still
dominats in Texas, it still doesn't in the whole state
of Texas, but it was on Sean. I'm gonna have
a request because I don't know if you ever did
it again. Maybe one day because the first, the first

(01:49:00):
round table that you had when you started working for
the station, I wasn't able to go because of my illness.
But maybe one day you'll have another round table with
all the older fans that used to go and we'll
just share the stories man because we and also sing.
I'll let you go. Thanks for giving me some time.
I very seldom talk a lot, but I attended the

(01:49:21):
game between the Oilers and the Kansas City Chiefs when
Montana and Marcus Allen played for him. It was a
playoff of the Dome unfortunately the Chiefs one. But you know,
we have a lot of there's a lot of fans
out there, they have a lot of memories. Maybe one
day we'll get We.

Speaker 5 (01:49:36):
Got to get going and we appreciate it. Let's let's
talk to Mike real quick. Love the memories from those sections. Yeah,
you've got a lot of them, that's for sure. That's cool, Mike,
what's happening.

Speaker 26 (01:49:46):
Just wanted to tell you a little story about the
love of Love You Blue. I was a Byron Oshma's
back in the eighties and early nineties, and I found
about three fans love You Blue T shirts and nineteen
we put a little land in the newspaper, and so
everyone of them in two days.

Speaker 6 (01:50:07):
You said this was at Aushman's. Yeah, I missed that,
that supporting good store. Man, what a store that was.

Speaker 26 (01:50:15):
Years after they were they left, still the enthusiasm people
wanted those T shirts.

Speaker 6 (01:50:22):
Wish they were still around.

Speaker 30 (01:50:23):
Man.

Speaker 6 (01:50:24):
You know, you find some old school shirts like that,
those are those will hit you know what I mean? Priceless?

Speaker 26 (01:50:29):
Yeah, that's right, Yeah, exactly. They've been in our warehouse
lost for years.

Speaker 9 (01:50:34):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:50:35):
I wish I could give my hands on one of those.
Thanks for the story, Mike, We appreciate it. Good stuff, Michael,
and uh we got to get to break because Gil
and Big Jay we were up next and also Brandon

A financial fiduciary means.

Their obligation is to you to make sure that there

Halloween's supposed to be scary, good mass, scary, man? What
am I going to see next? Don't be surprised by
the scary part of your retirement. Don't let that be that.
Don't let that be the basis of what you're doing
at your retirement. Get out in front of it, do
no matter what age you are. Got to get started.

(01:51:29):
Part of getting started is getting with the right wealth
advisor and somebody as a financial fiduciary, who's transparent, who
has your best interest in mind, and who's there for
you to ask answers to all your questions experts. That's important.
And when it comes to your retirement, I'm not sure
i'd toy with it. When it comes to yeah, you
know what, it's kind of scary. I'm putting on a
scary mask.

Speaker 6 (01:51:48):
I wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (01:51:49):
We don't want Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers and your

Speaker 6 (01:53:01):
One is he related to Sean Connery? No okay, different guys.
What about Mike Conley? No, no, okay.

Speaker 5 (01:53:13):
They I mean, I don't think there's any relation there either.
But I'll tell you, well, it's got to hint the racism.

Speaker 6 (01:53:19):
So let me ask you.

Speaker 5 (01:53:20):
Let me ask you that it is the made poored
wine and we prepared to dine. Maybe would you be
feeling out of place if you were in a crib
like that with a bunch of people the maid poured
wine and you had to she came over and.

Speaker 6 (01:53:32):
Well, I'm not talking about that. Just a common man,
you guys, a common man? Are you like Maid's mid
We got a mid maid.

Speaker 5 (01:53:39):
No, we're talking about the drinks or like the young
there's all that rich stuff though, so you'll you'll she's pretty,
I don't very shallow?

Speaker 28 (01:53:50):
What it is?

Speaker 9 (01:53:50):
It is?

Speaker 6 (01:53:51):
It is this, Do you want your maid to be ugly?
It's not You're not. No, but you have to understand
your crib. Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:53:59):
So if you're going to aver and you're a common
man that wears jeans and blue strikes beer, are you
comfortable there? But if she's hot, you're comfortable. Yeah, probably
was even the moral of the story wine or but
wiser though No.

Speaker 6 (01:54:12):
Okay, let me back up. Are you running for president?

Speaker 9 (01:54:18):
I was?

Speaker 5 (01:54:19):
I was raising of course you were, soak this in
while I talk slowly. You're a common man, correct, hence
the song like a basic white guy. So you're, well,
there's common that's kind of racist. There's basically there's basic
common people that are any color. Yes, okay, basic. But
you're just saying it's only only white people are basic. Okay,

(01:54:39):
that's that's probably true. A lot of white people are basic.
So you are the common man. Apparently you're not because
you're so frigging shallows. The only reason you're gonna go
to the house is it the maids hot. Okay, so
you you're the common man. You show up and you're
you have to put a coat and tie on the
show crib. They're serving white wine spritzers when you walk in,

(01:55:01):
and a maze you got it on it and you're like, man,
this is are you feeling out of place a little bit? Okay,
but you're feeling in place. If she's hot, you can
stare at her. She makes you're with the more comfortable.
Well you're with your lady though, okay, well then she's
my she's the hottest. So you come up with the
philosophy that it doesn't matter who pumps up the tires
as long as mama rides the bike.

Speaker 6 (01:55:21):
Damn right, Okay, I got it. I feel you. I
really don't feel you, but that's all right. We can
roll with it.

Speaker 5 (01:55:27):
So I've tried to go to the common man, and
you're wondering if you could check the bite. I'm just saying, dude,
if you want to go into it, obviously rich Cordy, Yeah,
it's a rich crib.

Speaker 6 (01:55:35):
Yeah, I just enjoyed the rich. Could just enjoy fit in.

Speaker 5 (01:55:38):
Chameleon, get in where you fit in too? Short said, yeah,
just hang in, ain't yeah, you just got to hang
in no matter where you go. You got to be
able to fit in, to fit in where you get.
You know who, you know who who actually would agree
with me on this one?

Speaker 6 (01:55:50):
Big J. You know he's a big BBW guy. So
we'll see. Let's see, Big J. You want to weigh
in on this. Bruh you know it?

Speaker 28 (01:55:58):
Man?

Speaker 34 (01:55:59):
The b b abused man oh man, Yeah, I mean, uh, anyway,
I don't.

Speaker 6 (01:56:05):
I don't want to.

Speaker 34 (01:56:06):
I got a name to throw out there is like
my numeral uno. Uh, y'all watch Fox Sports one Joy Taylor. Yeah, man,
I know she's not that, but man, anyway, that's new. Anyway,
what are we talking about?

Speaker 11 (01:56:22):
Numerono?

Speaker 5 (01:56:22):
Your favorite broadcaster? Yes, that that is what I thought
you meant. Yeah, okay, your favorite your favorite sporter. There
you go, there you go.

Speaker 34 (01:56:32):
Actually, me and my buddies had a draft one time
of drafting the top talent.

Speaker 6 (01:56:36):
But anyway, I digress. No no, no no no no
no no no no no no. You feel like you'd
be a guy that would want to hit on jelly
Roll only if you get rid of the tats.

Speaker 34 (01:56:52):
Man, I'm not a tat guy.

Speaker 6 (01:56:55):
The facial facial all right, Yeah, so what's on your mind?
As from Big Women, dog, what's up?

Speaker 34 (01:57:03):
Yes, So I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go my top,
my ranks, my three What kind of town this? In
the Rockets, they had their heyday in the nineties, right
with the Green Drexler and then you go to the Texans.
But I still think it stings with the old oilers.
But man, let me drop some names right the run
and Shoot days, Heywood, Jefferies, Ernest Givens, Warren Moon, Gary

(01:57:26):
Butterball Brown, Bruce, Matt Hughes, and of course Jack Party
who was kind of worked with Drew Hill.

Speaker 6 (01:57:32):
Drew Hill. Jack was a hell of a good man.
I love Jack.

Speaker 5 (01:57:35):
Yeah, and warn Ma slinging it around. They had some weapons. Now,
Spencer was hilling the Spencer Tillman. On those teams, their
defense was off the air, Bubba and yeah did Stevie
Jackson blamed.

Speaker 6 (01:57:49):
Bishop Fuller played linebacker. Chris Dishman.

Speaker 5 (01:57:52):
Fuller was a defensive Linemansman head coach.

Speaker 6 (01:57:55):
Yeah, dish and Bubba were good.

Speaker 5 (01:57:57):
That secondary was freaking filthy as a and on and
even be posta and even earlier. Yeah, man, that there's
some times, man, some great talent on those teams, and I.

Speaker 34 (01:58:07):
Still consider Ernest Givens Electric Slide the best touchdown celebration
of all time.

Speaker 9 (01:58:13):
When I have.

Speaker 34 (01:58:13):
Something classic, like at my wedding, I still do the
electric slide, and I'm sure that's entertaining because you'll have
seen my physical stature. But the number one, it's a
Houston Astros town.

Speaker 8 (01:58:24):
Man. Every time I go to Clayburn's Cafeteria.

Speaker 34 (01:58:26):
To eat, there's at least thirty eight thirty Astros hats, right,
So I try to base that on where I'm eating
and what I'm seeing. Where you go to the mall wherever,
it's an Astros town from nineteen eighty six on, even
though they're up and down and I know it's hot
right now, but to me, it's just an Astros town.
So that's that's my thoughts. I believe it's an ass town.
And hey, Oshman's was the Bombs's Great Wednesday, basic white

(01:58:50):
Guy Western Wednesday Baby.

Speaker 5 (01:58:52):
A lot of vows in that one, Thanks Big Jay.
I appreciate your brother as always. That team with Matthews
and Dean Steinkoup.

Speaker 6 (01:59:00):
Loved in Stein cooler Man.

Speaker 5 (01:59:01):
Yeah, Fumble Ruski, Yeah, they were loaded dude with Bruce yesterday.
Good memories, good laughs. Man, boy, were they good. They
had great players at every position. You know, as we
kind of mar Lathan like we talked chiseled out of
friggin rock. You talk about, dude, some of these legends
that played, and then you look at today's football in

(01:59:22):
the NFL. Don't leave out Ray Childress Okay, raised, Lawrence
Marshall and Hempstead. We clawed big City prize. Damn right,
that's my guy, big. I'm rach children y yep, Okay.
What were you saying?

Speaker 6 (01:59:34):
Is there a quarterback development problem in the NFL?

Speaker 16 (01:59:38):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:59:38):
Of course, of course there is quarterback development because they're
not teaching mechanics that they're just hey, playoff schedule, man,
go make me a play. And when you're not making
those places, you sit down. And Anthony Richardson, to your point,
should be benched. And I don't think it's just on performance.
I think of what he did. He let his team
down on one play. Can lose respect. And you talked veterans.

(01:59:58):
I've talked about half a dozen guys from far older
school veterans that are big time players and guys that
are more current, not a one of them supports a
guy doing what he did. So it's a bummer, but
it's true and his performance said a bench. But yes,
oh we have a major.

Speaker 6 (02:00:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:00:15):
If the rookie class of c J stroups, rookie class
is awful, can't throw up right now. Awful, They're awful.
I've got I've got that in my notes here. But
I've also got other quarterbacks that are struggling in the NFL.
I want to discuss it, and does the NFL have
a quarterback development problem? Seven one, three, two, two five,

We weren't out of tel gates.

So on Sunday, father Jack McGinnis and whoever happened to

Speaker 35 (02:02:08):
Are going to be looking at their wrists and.

Speaker 30 (02:02:11):
They knew what time the game started, and they get
us out of that church in time to go across
the street or wherever you're going to go and do
it your tailgate, whether it was your uncles, your your grandpa,
your or your own house, and everybody congregated in the neighborhoods.

Speaker 11 (02:02:24):
To watch the game.

Speaker 35 (02:02:25):
So it was there almost like a religion to us.

Speaker 8 (02:02:28):
That's how close we were to those oilers.

Speaker 35 (02:02:30):
And they would go amongst the people. I know a
bunch of the Catholics went to our church all the time.
And I don't think they have that now. I don't
think they'll trust it. They wouldn't trust anybody going to
other people, you know, neighborhoods that aren't all that exclusive,
you know. But back then, yeah, they would hang out
at regular people's houses. What did you say, the.

Speaker 6 (02:02:49):
Ordinary man of the common man, common man, Yes.

Speaker 8 (02:02:54):
Sir, And that's the way they were back.

Speaker 19 (02:02:57):
And if they if one of them got hurt.

Speaker 35 (02:02:59):
Like they see, if we knew him, we'd be at
the hospital as kids, and they were our hero school.
I remember one time Fred Winnis got hurt and father
Jack took us to the hospital and all these nurses
were flocking in his room looking just to see him,
and and uh, he had a shirt on, and we're like, man,
this guy's pulling all the women. That's exactly how we

(02:03:19):
wanted to be when we were growing up. That's just
the way it was back.

Speaker 7 (02:03:23):
Did appreciate the call, Gil, Now let's talk to Terrence. Terrence,
where you been?

Speaker 6 (02:03:29):
Dog Ray? There goes that clobber line again. Lawns Marshland
and said, we claub our big city prices. He didn't
even say hello, he just picked up the phone. Larns Marshall,
we clap our big Fenny pride man. What's up man? Hey,
I was gonna talk about the well, first of all,

(02:03:51):
the diplow on the D's nuts. They go down as
one of the best ones.

Speaker 5 (02:03:58):
Thank you, thank you very much. We'll take We'll take
a little cross that. Yeah, diplow these nuts. Yeah, diplow down, man,
go on, I may have to put you on what
do you say, the mount uh what is it? Mount
mount rushboards?

Speaker 6 (02:04:10):
Nuts?

Speaker 5 (02:04:16):
Hey, you imagine you imagine they made the mount rushboard
these nuts.

Speaker 6 (02:04:21):
That's classic bron love it. I'm gonna say, talking about
the the what type of city this is? And you
guys are sleeping on our freaking SaberCats. We're a Rugby town,
good point. I mean we went what we were undefeated
this year?

Speaker 9 (02:04:39):
Right?

Speaker 6 (02:04:39):
They were? They were really I think they lost once
and it was in the playoffs. Yeah, well, I think
the ship is changing. Rugby town, h town. I see it,
I see it. The hell of a call. Guys appreciates
Terrence Rugburn. I love something.

Speaker 5 (02:05:00):
It's called the team money sometimes Terrence team money. Yeah,
love Terrence. You diplo. That's a good one, is going.
You got somebody to get to. Let's talk to Brandon.
Good morning, Brandon, Good morning, morning, great, great, How are you, bud?

Speaker 11 (02:05:19):
They are all right?

Speaker 31 (02:05:21):
It's time you were die.

Speaker 20 (02:05:23):
For New York.

Speaker 6 (02:05:25):
Yep, Brandon, for the Yankees. They got to win tonight.

Speaker 5 (02:05:29):
Well, Yankees earned must win Dodgers, aren't. Yankees still down
three to one, so they have to win to stay alive.

Speaker 22 (02:05:36):
Yes, I was on Jason the Dodgers, because the bets.

Speaker 6 (02:05:42):
Mookie bets.

Speaker 3 (02:05:44):
Because go ahead, Brandon, did.

Speaker 1 (02:05:49):
Y'all see them?

Speaker 6 (02:05:54):
Yeah, he's homered in every game of the World Series.
Pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (02:05:58):
He needs to do that again, he sure does, Brandon.

Speaker 7 (02:06:00):
Last question for you, who is your favorite team here
in the city. The yank or excuse me, the Rockets,
the Astros or the Texans.

Speaker 3 (02:06:08):
I'm choosing Astros.

Speaker 5 (02:06:10):
Thank you, Brandon. Enjoy your day, buddy. Yeah, goopular and
it's uh And you don't have to choose one. We're
just kind of trying to figure out where the if
they all were in a seven, like in a championship
series or in the Super Bowl in the same year,
which one would hit the worst? If they didn't win. Yeah,
you know what I'm saying, Man, Which one? Because we
always talk about the good stuff and good stuff? How

(02:06:30):
you want to celebrate all the successes?

Speaker 2 (02:06:32):
Right?

Speaker 5 (02:06:32):
Well, which one would get out the draw your ire
or the emotion the most? If they were all three
two seven game series, losing the seven game and then
losing a Super Bowl, all of them to walk off fashion,
which one would cut you the deepest? But yeah, I
think you'd be everybody'd love it walk off fashion for
the win, which hopefully will happen. But we're just trying
to gauge what town? Is it as an Astros town?

Speaker 6 (02:06:53):
Yes? Is it still the Astros town? Is it truly
a football state?

Speaker 30 (02:06:57):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (02:06:57):
But is it a football NFL city? Basketball? Because you
know they're back to back titles all those things?

Speaker 6 (02:07:04):
Which one? But which one?

Speaker 5 (02:07:05):
I guess you'd find out more emotion if you found
out which one would hurt the worst?

Speaker 11 (02:07:09):
Right?

Speaker 5 (02:07:09):
If you lost in walk off fashion in any of
those three teams, which one would cut you the deepest?

Speaker 6 (02:07:16):
I think?

Speaker 5 (02:07:17):
For me, like I think back to when Chris Paul
messed up his hamstring against the Golden Side three one
yep in twenty eighteen and then I was sitting court
side for Game seven when they missed all those threes,
and Scott Foster played a hand in some of those
games where you can't convince me that he's not on
the take.

Speaker 7 (02:07:36):
I don't care what anybody says. I remember that one
hurt me as a fan. I think back to twenty
nineteen for the Astros. I was there for Game seven
when Howie Kendrick hit the ball off of the foul pole.
Zach Grinky pitched his ass off. AJ Hinch trusted the
analytics too much and made the switch.

Speaker 5 (02:07:54):
On a pitch that Kendrick should have never gotten ever
got to by Will Harris.

Speaker 6 (02:07:57):
That one hurt.

Speaker 7 (02:07:59):
I was there for when the when the Braves beat
the Astros and and uh Celaire hit that monster.

Speaker 5 (02:08:05):
Home run, That one hurts well, how bad did the
loss of the Kansas City Chiefs hurt you? So then
that was my next point.

Speaker 7 (02:08:10):
We were doing, actually we were doing a broadcast over
it whatever that bar used to be Lucky's. We did
a pregame show there here at for seven ninety and
that place was jam packed. And when they were kicking
their ass in the first or second quarter or whatever
it was, I remember. Look, I was sitting next to
Ross and I looked at Ross and I said, Ross,
it's not enough. They need more points.

Speaker 6 (02:08:28):
And what happened? They blew it. That one sucked.

Speaker 7 (02:08:31):
But you also thought, man, we finally have a franchise
quarterback into Shaun Watson. For me, I would, I guess
maybe because maybe I'm more of a baseball guy. But
I just feel like a another seven game series loss
in the World Series for the Astros would hurt worse
than the Texans losing in the Super Bowl, even though
they've won some Yeah, I think so, just because we

(02:08:54):
again it goes back to what have you done for
me lately?

Speaker 6 (02:08:56):
Yeah? But which you know?

Speaker 11 (02:08:58):
Ano?

Speaker 7 (02:08:58):
Another question is which what's harder to get to a
Super Bowl, the NBA Finals or the World Series.

Speaker 6 (02:09:06):
Damn, that's a good question. What's harder to get to?

Speaker 26 (02:09:08):
Well?

Speaker 5 (02:09:09):
I think I think I think I think the play
the easiest to get into. You have eight million chances
in the NBA Finals. Yeah, yeah, so that's the the
hardest one. I mean, the hardest one to win would
seem to be the Super Bowl because you only get
one game, one game, one shot. You know you can
screw up three times and still have a chance to

(02:09:29):
win the other one. I think it's that one. And
go ahead and look at the number of teams that
have won a Super Bowl outside of a handful of
quarterbacks over the last twenty years.

Speaker 6 (02:09:39):
Yeah, yeah, it's like here recently, it's Tom Brady, Patrick.

Speaker 5 (02:09:44):
Mahomes, Mahomes. You throw in some Ben Roethlisberger. If we're
going way back, there's been Rust Wilson, There's been some
guys mixed in. But in truth, there's been a hand
It's like the ninety percent of the money's controlled by
ten percent of the population of those wealthy people. In truth,
there's a handful of quarterbacks in the control in most
of the Super Bowls over the last decade and a
half or what have you.

Speaker 6 (02:10:04):
It feels that way.

Speaker 5 (02:10:06):
And well, Mahomes has got what three yep, Brady has seven,
there's ten, Yeah, in the last what twenty plus years.
Then you mix in a Roethlisberger, mix in a Russ Wilson,
Eli Manning won two, Peyton Manning's another one. Got his
what he's got two of them right, one in Indian,

(02:10:27):
one in Denver, and then lost one in Denver. I
mean so, in truth, ten percent of the stud quarterbacks
control ninety percent of the championship trophies. It feels like, yeah,
I'm gonna say that one. Because you only get one shot.
You don't get you don't get to screw up three times, right,
or really four times?

Speaker 11 (02:10:45):
Right?

Speaker 5 (02:10:46):
I mean you get that to win it. You got
to win four, but you get to screw up three
times in a fourth win and you're out. So if
they played the three game series, then it may be
a different story. You've played him three times to win
or five times. Obviously that doesn't happen. So when you're
a limit, when it's down to one, when you only
got one shot at it and you may never get
a shot again.

Speaker 6 (02:11:06):
Give me that one.

Speaker 5 (02:11:06):
And there's at that position. There's too many good quarterbacks
at the top that keep the guy who's fifteenth from
getting in. Just to me, I'll take I'll think football
is the toughest because it's a one game series.

Speaker 7 (02:11:19):
Yeah, I would think, you know, with with how the
playoff structure is for Major League Baseball, it makes it tougher.
But the simple fact is the Super Bowl is one game,
same thing with the with the AFC Championship, it's just
one game. Those are all one games you play a.

Speaker 5 (02:11:34):
Now pre wild card stuff. Yeah, baseball is brutal too. Yeah,
baseball is brutal. And when the emphasis was on pitching,
not hitting the ball out of the ballpark different, I mean,
that's tough. But now that we've got more wild cards,
so it's easier.

Speaker 6 (02:11:46):
To get in.

Speaker 5 (02:11:47):
But then when when you get in, I mean we
saw it this year three game series, Tigers kick, it's
a it's a grind once, yea, and there's no doubt.
So you can make an argument for all of them.
I think the NBA has probably got more more ways
into the end every champion seven game series. Now, think
about Boston wins one the Lakers, when when there's one
the Denver Nuggets, you could get theirs to, I mean

(02:12:09):
the Milwaukee Bucks. I mean it seems like every year,
it seems like every year it's a different team. But
when the back in the when it used to be
Celtics Lakers, and then you'd throw one in once in
a while to somebody else, but we use state.

Speaker 6 (02:12:20):
We knew it was in a golden state.

Speaker 5 (02:12:22):
Yeah, and now, hell, are you sure the Dallas Mavericks
can't win the whole thing Phoenix Suns have had opportunities
twice to win it and record. I mean, say, and
you see how now the Denver Nuggets hanging around. But
I mean it's like we don't even talk about the
Milwaukee Bucks anymore.

Speaker 9 (02:12:37):
There.

Speaker 5 (02:12:37):
I mean, it's weird, it is, how quick so but
a couple of injuries are a couple of healthy players
and boom, you're right back at it.

Speaker 7 (02:12:44):
Yeah, it's it's I just think with all seven game
series for the NBA, it's probably the easiest then Baseball
and then football with the Super Bowl be in just
one game seven one three, sevenhinies number to join. We've
got some guys on hold, let's get to them and
also continue this discussion about the city of Houston and
what kind of town it is. Also, does the NFL
have a QB development problem? We'll talk about it next
to sport Stock sevent to eighty.

Sean Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 2 (02:14:23):
Hi, that's that one Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (02:14:26):
Seven one three two two sevenineties number to join us.
Talk to you, John, John, thank you for holding Good morning.

Speaker 9 (02:14:33):
Hi.

Speaker 6 (02:14:33):
Are you all doing. We're good man. What's on your mind?

Speaker 5 (02:14:37):
Uh?

Speaker 21 (02:14:37):
A little disgusted here, my man there, start getting bank.
He's getting hit pretty hard, man, and we're getting kind
of worried about that offensive line protections. You know, Uh,
what are they going to do about that? Well, they've
Benchedar Green, right, so they.

Speaker 7 (02:14:55):
Yeah, they mentioned him for a little bit this past Sunday.
You eventually went back in.

Speaker 21 (02:15:00):
Yeah, okay, I just kind of worry about that young man.

Speaker 6 (02:15:03):
He's a good.

Speaker 21 (02:15:03):
Quarterback and he's standing on the pounding. He's taken, you know,
and we saw a little frustration on his face, you know,
and so we hope that they get all that straightened out.
There still a lot of games left.

Speaker 7 (02:15:18):
Yeah, yeah, John, They're gonna have to sew up that
offensive line with pass protection because they're doing a good
job at the run game, but pass protection is atrocious.

Speaker 21 (02:15:25):
Oh yeah, Maxim is Uh, Nixon is, he's great.

Speaker 9 (02:15:29):
Man.

Speaker 21 (02:15:29):
I got to see him and uh when the last
time he played at the Oklahoma Texas game, you know,
and at.

Speaker 6 (02:15:36):
You know the rivalry. Yeah, so that's the last time,
you know, but he that.

Speaker 21 (02:15:41):
Boy is awesome. You know, he's igil. You know, he
has the moves, he's he knows where he's going before
he gets there, you know. And uh so I'm going
to ask, I know, Shan your quarterback, right well, would
you be concerned about that offensive line every time you're
going to step out there right now?

Speaker 5 (02:15:59):
Well, if you're CJ. Stroud, I mean, and that's a
good question, and John, thanks for the call. Is it's
hard as a quarterback to step in. You have to
make sure that they see that you have belief and
trust in everything they do. I know that sounds hard
from our vantage point, but when you step into the huddle,
they got to know that you got them so deep

(02:16:19):
down and maybe places when he's sitting at home thinking
about it, like, man, we got to improve the pass protection.
The offensive line knows it, but there won't be one
ounce of him or one ounce of a good leader
and a quarterback you know that good leadership is obviously
when people have choices and they still follow you, and
they will follow Stroud And part of him being a
great leader is he will rally around those guys and

(02:16:42):
make sure that they know he believes in them if
nobody else does. He has to at least fool him
into thinking that if he didn't believe it.

Speaker 6 (02:16:49):
But I do believe.

Speaker 5 (02:16:50):
Yeah, you're always from a fan standpoint, Yeah, I'm tired
of him taking the hits. From the quarterback standpoint, there
can be none of that that shows. There can't be
one ounce of it. Frustrating and when you're doing in
the meeting room, but when you go into this game
tomorrow night, once again, he has to believe that he's
lining up with five cats that are going to get
it done. And they more importantly need to know that's

(02:17:11):
the way he feels. And what do they say if
you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffling with bs And
that's what either they have to do or CJ has
to do and believe. And I think that that's part
of part and parcel to being a great leader and
the guy that those linemen look for. If they automatically
know that he doesn't believe they're going to make plays,
then you're screwed even worse than you think. So, yes,

(02:17:34):
as a quarterback, and plus, you don't play well if
you feel like you're ducking all the time, if you
feel going in that oh my gosh, because then you
start to invent, you start to borrow trouble, and you
don't want it as a quarterback, borrow trouble because that
makes your decision making a lot more difficult. They need
to elevate their play. And I'm telling you what, they're
gonna have to elevate their play to go win in
the medal lines. As easy as it may look on paper,

(02:17:55):
the way that the Jets have played it's Rogers is.

Speaker 6 (02:17:59):
Just a cape. Is any other quarterback having that big moment?
He really is. He still got it man, And they
are not. They are not.

Speaker 5 (02:18:07):
Undermanned when it comes to good personnel. They've got good players, right,
but they just did. They've they've underachieved, underachieved grossly this year.

Speaker 6 (02:18:14):
Yeah, in a lot of ways.

Speaker 7 (02:18:16):
Yeah, that's I mean on both sides of the football
field of the Jets. Let's talk to Neel Needgel.

Speaker 6 (02:18:21):
Good morning, Good morning, guys, how you doing very well, sir,
Thank you all right.

Speaker 10 (02:18:28):
So it's obvious what the correct answer is for what
kind of town this is, because out of all the
sports that we have here, there's been heartbreaking moments, you know,
every now and then, it gets brought up when the
White Sox swept the Astros. Every now and then, the

(02:18:48):
Damian Lillard fade away three that eliminated the Rockets gets
brought up. But there's one loss that gets brought up
every couple of years in Houston, and it by far
hurts more than anything else, and that's the Buffalo Bills
thirty five point turnaround win. So it's obvious what's going

(02:19:08):
to hurt the most is getting the football team to
the edge and losing that. That's going to be the
one that stays with everybody because that game is twenty
years old already and people still cringe when you talk
about that Buffalo Bills game. So in my opinion, it
would be the Texans getting eliminated, you know, just right

(02:19:30):
there at the time that it looked like they had
the best shot to win.

Speaker 5 (02:19:36):
That was a I'll never forget that moment, thank you,
Because we were in the playoffs practicing the day before
came in.

Speaker 6 (02:19:43):
I told you that story.

Speaker 5 (02:19:44):
We went out to practice in the morning, walked through
in Minnesota before our Sunday game. I think pretty sure
that was a Saturday game and they had a big lead.
We went out, came back in from an hour walkthrough,
and it was we said down where you guys would
play cribbage in our little lunch room and could not
believe what had happened that the comeback. It was unbelievable.

(02:20:06):
It was frigging unbelievable. Wow, And you're like, what in
the world is going on here? And it was led
by a backup to boot not Jim Kelly, machine gun Kelly,
who's Houston gambler. Fans saw him do that here by
you know, Frank Reich, who was a hell of a
backup quarterback. And it was just boom after boom after
play after play after play. But you couldn't believe it

(02:20:27):
because you think, okay, man, just just kneel Hell, you
could have kneeled down probably and killed enough clock to
fin you know what I'm saying, Boy, did that thing
go south?

Speaker 6 (02:20:34):
Yeah? That sucks.

Speaker 5 (02:20:35):
What an incredible man, And I think the Buffalo again
went onto the Super Bowl that year and unfortunately lost
for them again. There another franchise. It's like Minnesota that's
been there, what four or five times and has not
one one. Yeah, didn't they go three years in a row,
Jim Kelly four years? Four years in a row, four straight?
You'll you may I'd say, we said you never see
it again. But that's can't see. Chiefs are sitting on that,

(02:20:57):
which is weird. How hard it is to get to
two straight, let alone four Corner Rowe in a row
and they lost all, every single one of them. God,
it's heartbreaking. And that's a dominant football in the OAC.
That is not so when people look at him as
a failure. The truth there's phenomenal success. You just couldn't
close it out. I'm pretty sure it was four straight.
I think with that, you know Thurman Thomas, Jim Kelly,

(02:21:17):
that group, I'm almost positive Andre Reid and you know
machine Gun Kelly at the forefront of it, Frank Wright
that and they I think they went to four straight
and lost all of them. Hard to do and he
remember they're vivid. This is a franchise and they couldn't
win any of them. It's hard to get to Foregner row.
They nominated the AFC. Then they lost Super Bowl twenty five,

(02:21:38):
six seven, twenty eight. Oh my gosh, you think those
of you think Buffalo fans are craving the Super Bowl
there fore in a row.

Speaker 7 (02:21:46):
Yeah, brutal. That sucks you think about Buffalo. Buffalo's got
one pro sports as a Buffalo bill too. Sorry Buffalo,
excuse me.

Speaker 6 (02:21:58):
Sorry.

Speaker 5 (02:21:59):
I used to have the Buffalo Braves and Bob McAdoo,
and they were there, then they left. But the Buffalo
Braves uniforms are some of the sweetest old school uniforms
you'll ever see.

Speaker 7 (02:22:07):
Yeah, it Sabers hockey hockey now, nothing like the Tulsa
Oilers though.

Speaker 6 (02:22:18):
I've been doing. I've been to one of those two.
It's it's like minor league Hocky. Yeah, the Tolls Oilers.
Yeah right there.

Speaker 21 (02:22:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (02:22:29):
I went to a bar right across the street from
the toast where the Tulsa Drillers are for a work
event back in the day, back in the Dizzy.

Speaker 6 (02:22:36):
It was actually like six years ago, but still back
in the Toll Silers.

Speaker 5 (02:22:43):
The PA announcer for that that Oilers team is like
so over the top PA announcer guy.

Speaker 22 (02:22:49):
The Wholesalt Oilers Sunday Sunday Sunday.

Speaker 5 (02:22:53):
That sounds like the kids. That sounds like the back
in the day at Qualcomm or Jack Murphy Stadium. The
monster truck, Monster truck, That's what I'm saying. The monster
truck guy.

Speaker 22 (02:23:04):
Yep, Sunday Sundays Honday for three hours only, Walcom Stadium,
Brave Digger, Bigfoot, Barefoot, Carolina Crusher, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:23:15):
And Special gets Megazoid and then they'll be showing the
truck flying in the background. The big car Crush Sunday Sunday. Yeah, Yeah, oh.

Speaker 22 (02:23:27):
Man, Megazoid, Loascil tear cars up. Get your kids twenty
percent off by by you get a ticket from your
local O'Reilly's Auto Parts.

Speaker 6 (02:23:39):
Olrighty's got to be involved.

Speaker 5 (02:23:40):
I know you got a zone whatever it is, you know, Yeah,
AutoZone good, O'Reilly's nice.

Speaker 6 (02:23:46):
You go nice, you get into the zone.

Speaker 5 (02:23:50):
Yes, the jingle, oh oh o'illy Auto.

Speaker 7 (02:23:55):
Parts, Boom, there you go. Let's go to break seven
five seven ninety. Well, continue this discussion. I also I
gotta get Sean's thoughts on this QB development problem in
the NFL.

Speaker 4 (02:24:04):
Next on sports Stock seven to eighty, the Sewn Salisbury
show continued.

Speaker 6 (02:24:12):
I think the Tracy Chapman. I think she's I've always
thought she was underrated.

Speaker 7 (02:24:16):
They're collabed together at one of the music shows over
the last couple of months to charts.

Speaker 5 (02:24:20):
Major respect for both. I'm gonna go with hers because
it's hers and she's really good at it. But I'm
gonna tell you what if you want to cover in
a bar, you want somebody to sing that cut for you? Redo, Yeah,
that's a good one to do it. Yeah, hell yeah,
you gonna ask ye who got to make a living?

(02:24:41):
Should I think Tracy Chapman has been underrated?

Speaker 2 (02:24:43):
I do.

Speaker 6 (02:24:43):
I think she's highly underrated. Yeah, really do? She is underrated,
no question. You know who's overrated? Don't say uh, I
don't say anybody. I like saying who's John?

Speaker 29 (02:24:58):
Whoa John?

Speaker 6 (02:24:59):
And need you called him over raided? You can't do
for raided? Sorry? John? What's happening? A dog man man man?
Let ye, buddy, nothing drank on a chicken wang and
a string?

Speaker 2 (02:25:11):
Whatever?

Speaker 6 (02:25:11):
You say? What's up?

Speaker 3 (02:25:15):
Do you really want a twelve up your butt?

Speaker 6 (02:25:18):
No twelve gage or a twelve?

Speaker 16 (02:25:22):
Oh no, I'm not gonna wait.

Speaker 8 (02:25:24):
I'm not gonna waste.

Speaker 11 (02:25:25):
I wouldn't wat the bullet on him.

Speaker 22 (02:25:28):
John, John, stop tripping quit line for the fan. Dog
you were a size nine.

Speaker 5 (02:25:38):
He'll still be fingered, My guy, John, how did you
call him over raid and start singing the cut too?

Speaker 6 (02:25:46):
You know it's just hurts. I love John, Man.

Speaker 11 (02:25:48):
What gets me, man, is Brian sitting there acting all like, oh.

Speaker 1 (02:25:52):
My god, Buffalo with the four Super Bowls.

Speaker 9 (02:25:56):
You didn't know that.

Speaker 6 (02:25:57):
I knew that, But I'm just talking about the heartbreak
of it.

Speaker 17 (02:25:59):
Man.

Speaker 11 (02:26:00):
That's a heartbreak, man. People couldn't live it in the pastebout.

Speaker 16 (02:26:04):
Houston fans, Oh my dog, the Astrodome and the oilers
and black dude?

Speaker 11 (02:26:10):
Did you keep?

Speaker 16 (02:26:11):
Everybody mostly kept going back what they're broken up girlfriends?

Speaker 22 (02:26:15):
And boy John's being a hater this morning. I love
it dogs, good god people.

Speaker 9 (02:26:20):
John?

Speaker 6 (02:26:21):
Were you Were you at the Astronome for that pep rally?

they lost?

Speaker 30 (02:26:26):

Speaker 16 (02:26:28):
Actually, to be honest with you, You're not gonna believe this, Brian,
but I have believe it.

Speaker 8 (02:26:32):
This is god Don's truth.

Speaker 11 (02:26:33):
Brian.

Speaker 8 (02:26:34):
I was in fifth grade at the time.

Speaker 6 (02:26:37):
Wait, what what year was that eighty It was seventy
nine and eighty. Yeah, I was home now, I was.

Speaker 18 (02:26:42):
Home by man, I was gonna say I was at
military school.

Speaker 6 (02:26:45):
Yeah, got yourself in trouble, dad, I got to send
you in military school. That's crazy. Go figure exactly.

Speaker 16 (02:26:52):
Hey man, look real quick, man, because I know Brian's
gonna have forty five seconds to play with.

Speaker 5 (02:26:56):
You can do a lot in forty five seconds. What
what's what's he gonna do the other thirty five seconds.

Speaker 6 (02:27:06):
Maybe it's it's you, it's me, it's not you.

Speaker 5 (02:27:08):
But see Brian starts apologizing before Hey, baby, listen, I
got thirty seconds of hell. But if I only give
you eighteen you understand what you You know how we
do dogaro, it's comments you, but your hell for about
eighteen seconds, I'll get after me.

Speaker 6 (02:27:24):
I'm telling you what we'll get after your hell for
eighteen A serious.

Speaker 16 (02:27:27):
Though, man, in all serious man, Yankee fans, don't quit dripping.

Speaker 8 (02:27:32):
You were supposed to win that game. It was a
bullpn game.

Speaker 11 (02:27:36):
I'm not rooting for the dog if I'm not rooting
for it. But they oh we're back, We're.

Speaker 16 (02:27:40):
Gonna take the series and got bitch, please it was
a bullpen game for the Dodgers.

Speaker 26 (02:27:48):
You better have won that game.

Speaker 11 (02:27:50):
You're still gonna choke.

Speaker 8 (02:27:51):
It off, but still, and then let's get to the seriousness.

Speaker 16 (02:27:55):
This is an A and D T clown uh City.
It's a to Astros and the Texans. And then you've
got a close Then you have the Dynamo coming in third,
you know. And no, we don't have the Rockets in
there because they all a bunch of pansy ass devas.

Speaker 6 (02:28:17):
Wow today John and John, I can't stay.

Speaker 11 (02:28:22):
At basketball players nowadays.

Speaker 16 (02:28:23):
They are a bunch of punk asses. Hey, seriously, I
talked to Sean about this yesterday. The Texans better get
off their ass and go get a wide receiver. And
I'm telling you because this tank Gale and the other guys,
and that's not going to get them to where they

(02:28:44):
want to go.

Speaker 8 (02:28:45):
We all know, you know, we got a.

Speaker 16 (02:28:48):
Big offensive line problem with Green and I you know,
Patterson with a concussion and Dada.

Speaker 8 (02:28:54):
But man, if I'm Houston.

Speaker 16 (02:28:58):
I'm pulling out that black American Express card that are
unlimited or whatever you want to pull up Brinks truck
and Jamar Chase is not signing back with Cincinnati. He's
already made that clear. I would go all in and
go get Chase to compliment Nico, and then you put

(02:29:19):
your little tank Dell in the slot and everything, because
all number ones need a one B.

Speaker 36 (02:29:26):
A one A needs a one B. Look at all
the great teams that have had those type of receivers.
I would go in because I still say with him
and Nico and Mixing and CJ, now, that would be
just scary. And they got the money. Don't say they

(02:29:48):
ain't got the money, man, They got the money.

Speaker 16 (02:29:50):
If Jerry can do all this with the captain, the
Yankees can do it with caps and.

Speaker 8 (02:29:55):
Kids the city.

Speaker 9 (02:29:56):
So can the Texans.

Speaker 3 (02:29:58):
They just need to want to do it.

Speaker 5 (02:30:00):
There's no there's no there's no cap in baseball. He's
not talking about baseball. I thought he was talking about
I thought I thought he was talking about going to
get Jamar Chase.

Speaker 7 (02:30:12):
And he said the Yankees can do it, then Texas

Out there.

Speaker 6 (02:31:02):
The Sean Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 37 (02:31:06):
Hey Sean, Brian, how was gone? I had a quick
question for you, man. When I was listening to that
uh fast car I visited you and a many drop
coop with going up to San Antonio, sitting one of
them big women in the back seat, just cruising through
the city that Santonio.

Speaker 11 (02:31:28):
You know, Sean, she won't be able to fit in.

Speaker 37 (02:31:29):
The back seat, so she got a whole her shoulder
a little over to the side just to get in
and just.

Speaker 11 (02:31:37):
Hey, Sean, the thing.

Speaker 37 (02:31:39):
He is about the all of y'all were the lines
blew up when you talked about the Allers. But it's
two major rules came out of that instant replayers. One
of them because of the catch and because of when
Bebe ran out of bounce and ran back in and
caught that score and he caught the ball so that
Buffalo could win. And they changed the rules of base

(02:31:59):
of bomb that for instant replay. To the young bride
who didn't know that? And if the last time you
guys mentioned the Lovely Blue song and the all the
fight song, Brian, google the game when the all Us
played the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, when Earl
Campbell ran that touchdown, and also google Sean, you know

(02:32:20):
about this that hit Jack Tatum put on Earl Campbell
and he still scored. The hardest hit you ever see
in in the NFL. And he knocked himself out in
Earl Campbell and the Earl still scored.

Speaker 5 (02:32:31):
It wasn't there also one when Isaiah robertson the Rams linebacker, came.

Speaker 6 (02:32:35):
Up to green his head, yeah and her right down
by the goal line. Didn't he put him to stick
him on his back? Is that the one where his
jersey was ripped off and he kept on going. Yeah,
they had to tear away jerseys then too.

Speaker 5 (02:32:47):
Man, that was a Earl Campbell was every bit of
beast you ever see in the league now, and he
could run him world class speed too.

Speaker 6 (02:32:55):
It's crazy.

Speaker 37 (02:32:56):
Yeah, Brian checked that head out on Jack Tatum and
Earl Campbell. You see why they and that touch down.
You'll see why they love that song and the pompongs
when all that stuff started then as well, Hey Sean,
y'all have a good weekend, man you.

Speaker 6 (02:33:10):
Too, Thank you.

Speaker 7 (02:33:11):
A one thing, excuse me, that just came to my mind.
Remember Tom Brady's ex wife, Giselle Bunching.

Speaker 6 (02:33:20):
I know all about her, apparently that everybody does now
her and her boyfriend, he's a jiu jitsu teacher Yo
Team Valente. They're expecting their first baby together. Imagine your dad.

Speaker 7 (02:33:36):
Is a random jiu jitsu guy, and then all your
half siblings half the dad that's Tom Brady.

Speaker 6 (02:33:48):
And this is the guy that she like was seeing
like a week after their divorce or whatever.

Speaker 5 (02:33:52):
Think that she's probably well, yeah, after it just happened
to follow just she fell out of a turn up
truck and land in his lap. Yeah, just after the divorce. Yeah, okay, yeah,
but hey, man, they love each other.

Speaker 6 (02:34:06):
They're in love. Man, they're in love.

Speaker 7 (02:34:08):
Yeah, good for Jokim Valente, Gizill bunching, Tom Brady's X
crazy man.

Speaker 6 (02:34:23):
Hey, who's what's your dad do?

Speaker 9 (02:34:24):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (02:34:24):
He's a jiu jitsu instructor. Oh, I see you got brothers.

Speaker 28 (02:34:28):
What do they do?

Speaker 7 (02:34:29):
Who's their dad? Tom Brady? You mean, like the greatest
quarterback of all time? Yeah, yeah, that's my it's my
half brothers, it's my brothers.

Speaker 5 (02:34:44):
It's the guy that she was like cruising around in
like whatever island, like literally like three weeks after they
split up, and now they're having a baby together.

Speaker 6 (02:34:52):
So you know, love love means no boundaries. For you
to question their love for each other is a little
bit disturbing it. Yeah, she loves him. You were making
Joe Marshalls me, Yes, next to me? Yes, that was me?
What a bus toss?

Speaker 7 (02:35:07):
I mean, I unless you find another toss six five
basic white guy around here.

Speaker 5 (02:35:11):
I think they love each other though, okay, And I
think Tommy supports it. Okay, Hey, you know what life's
about moments and apparently.

Speaker 6 (02:35:21):
Oh don't don't. Apparently that was it. It's a different
moment for both of them.

Speaker 30 (02:35:26):
Now.

Speaker 6 (02:35:27):
Also, did you see the two jackass Yankee fans that
that pride? How could you miss it? And then one
of them held his wrists down? What the hell is
going on? A Game five is tonight?

Speaker 7 (02:35:41):
Yankees and Dodge received the Dodgers can clinch their first
Legit World Series titles since like nineteen eighty something, and
can the Yankees win their first one or at least
get back into the series they avoid the sweeps.

Speaker 5 (02:35:54):
So a good conversation today about the uh I thought
she thought she wanted to get really good conversation. When
are we gonna get this to pay off your tease
on developing quarterbacks tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (02:36:05):
Yeah? I can't do it right now. So it's a
good day.

Speaker 7 (02:36:07):
We'll save it for tomorrow. He'll take on some good
legs because it has to do with it.

Speaker 9 (02:36:11):
C J.

Speaker 7 (02:36:11):
Stroud and his draft class, Anthony Richardson, Will Levis, who
are right here in the division. Trevor Lawrence is just
a couple of years apart from CJ. Stroud and he's
right here in the division. Also, there's a host of
other quarterbacks that just aren't very good. And then there's
a report out that scouts are telling college quarterbacks not
to enter the draft until they have at least two
years of starting at the Division one level. So yeah,

(02:36:33):
we'll talk about if the NFL has a development problem
tomorrow right here on the show for Sewn Salisbury. Our
producer is Triple Emmanuel Elmore I and Brian Lima.

Speaker 6 (02:36:41):
Thank you for listening. We're back tomorrow morning at six
a m.

Speaker 5 (02:36:46):
