Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury. O, ho, okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sean Salisbury, The USC Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewn Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
You missed yesterday? You say Kakushi headed to the Angels
on a three year deal. Ravens beat the Chargers last
night and Monday Night Football Sean Tripley, Good morning. So
much to talk about with these Houston Texans and they're struggling,
uh loss against the Titans. We're gonna have NFL and
college football expert Kirkurvestreet Jurory join us at eight o'clock
(00:43):
this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
What's up? It's happening all good? Yeah, it'll be great.
Great to hear from him. Spoke to him or texted yesterday,
and great to have him on. And with that schedule,
I hate to do it during Thanksgiving week, but sometimes
you got to get the good ones on when they
can fit a time. So look forward to having him
on and he'll cover the gamut of both and I'm
(01:05):
sure he's pretty surprised at just how crazy the college
football season is. And may you talk a little bit
about Ben and how he's overcoming the loss of his
good dog that he's had for a long time. So
Herbstreet will be great for us. Man one of the
hardest working guys out there. Seems like he's on the
road all the time, so we had great to join us.
He always is kind with his time with us, so
that coming out looking forward to it. Yep. Yeah, the
(01:27):
Harbob Brothers last night going at it. Yeah, Jim can't
beat John, sure can't. And Derek Henry's pretty good okay,
and the MVP of the league. Two candidates on there,
Josh Allen. But Baltimore is good. They now what eight
and four and this is around their time. They just
got to learn how to make January their time. But
(01:47):
pretty impressive and the big fellow in the backfield sure
gives them a weapon. It seems like every single week
there's that one or two long runs where he just
punishes people and again wore him down. Beat the Chargers
at their own game, dominating in the run game last night.
And you know, Lamar, I think was accountable for three
touchdowns total last night. And didn't you know his feet
moren't exactly the normal Lamar Jackson, but he's gotten better
(02:09):
at beating you from from that spot in the pocket
then out on the edge, which is impressive, which is
something that everybody wanted to have done, and it's happening.
Big run game last night for the Baltimore Ravens and John.
Then Jim tells the story, I mean talked to Jim
about it. John doesn't take or John tells the story.
Jim doesn't take too well losing to his brother. I
(02:31):
mean he wants to fight him on Christmas vacations and holidays.
I'm Summerville. That's Aius. Yeah, and that's a competitive family.
So another big win. Baltimore owns that series for wherever
Jim's been, whether it's San Francisco or the Chargers, He's
got him, got his number. So impressive win by Baltimore
against a good team that'll could make a difference in
(02:52):
the playoffs and the Chargers if they can play some
efficient offense and throw the ball and make some big
plays out of the passing game.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Yeah, they rushed for or Derek Henry rush for one
hundred and forty yards last night against the best defense
in the NFL, or one of the best defense in
the NFL.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
When you have a double weapon like Henry and Lamar Jackson.
It makes it makes it extremely I've been saying now
since you've been on this show and even before then,
that the Lamar Jackson and that offense is the most
difficult to pregame to game plan against. And now you
add Derrick Henry to it. The game plan against them, okay,
(03:29):
let's game plan against you have to go in stopping Henry.
But how in the world do you do that? Two
time MVP beats you. They are because of their and
they I mean they don't. It's not exactly like they
have the depth of a wide receiving crew that was
the old Cincinnati Bengals or this team when they're healthy.
The here they have, I mean good wide receivers, But
(03:51):
I don't know how when you're putting a game plan
and you say, okay, let's go stop this, because if
you're dead set on the big guy, how in the
world do you stop the edge? And he's not exactly
just three rds and a cloud of dust. He's got
wiggle Two. They're the toughest team to game plan against
in the league, in my opinion. A lot of teams
have great players, but very few of them have MVP
candidate two positions. On the same team with a guy
(04:12):
who's already run it one or twice and a guy
whose career has been rejuvenated being in Baltimore and Derrick Henry.
I don't know how you got to get a little
lucky and hope that they help you or your offense
plays out of their mind, because it's the most difficult
task in the league is putting game planning against Lamar
and Derrick Henry. It just is. And it's the bore
itself out again last night.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah, I'm sure the Raves improved to eight and four,
obviously one of the best teams in the AFC. Texans
here in the AFC. All right, Sean, it's well a
couple days after that loss, how you feeling now.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Overrated football team?
Speaker 5 (04:43):
Now?
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I take that we'll overrated go into the season properly rated.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
They are a seven and five team that, if they
don't get it going, will be fortunate to make the
playoffs and will be an easy out. When I say easy,
that's not fair, Well, they can't. They have not played
four good quarters of football the entire year. I'm talking
about offense, defense, special teams. Yeah, and if you want
to say, well, in New England, okay close, but they
(05:07):
haven't beat anybody good but won in Buffalo, and Buffalo's
a super Bowl team, and that that's one team that's
over five hundred they've beat. They just don't sustain great play.
And I was thinking about it driving in he can
getting more frustrated and at the self inflicted problems, the
lack of discipline the team. It's obvious to me they
didn't handle success very well, at least going into the offseason.
(05:30):
Whatever the reason why they haven't handled success, they handled
failure last year. Going into last year, a three win
team handled failure a lot better. Win in ten. They
were able to deal with it and cut it loose.
This year, it's almost like they're tread and lightly. They
haven't handled success from last year heading into this year
as well now injuries. But you know what, we can
make all the excuses we want. Everybody's got them, and
(05:53):
everybody's got The reason they're inconsistent has nothing to do
right now with Stefan Diggs. As much as good as
he is, he's not even their best receiver. He's a
really good player, but he's not the reason the offense
is inconsistent. The offensive coordinator has taking a step back
this year. The quarterback has taken a step back this year.
The offensive line pass protection has taken eight steps back
(06:14):
in their putrid most of the time. The run game
when Joe Mixon is going great, but you can't rely
on that guy to carry an offensive line on his
back and his shoulders the entire time. So the inconsistent
on defense, they fly around, they get out of the quarterback.
The problem is there's about three or four times a
game they miss a tackle and give up a big play.
And to my knowledge, I can't remember, but to my knowledge,
(06:35):
when you get to January, all six teams are good. Yeah,
they make the playoffs. So does that mean that they
can't fix it during the season, Not at all. You're
asking me today how I feel and today, of the
six teams that are going to get into the playoffs,
they would be the easiest out today. So them who else?
We got Chargers, Baltimore, Kansas City, Buffalo, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh.
(07:05):
That's your six teams. That's not seven? Has it got
to seven teams? And the seven teams now we have fourteen?
I know we do. You got four you get four
division winners, and the two wild cards, right, so six,
that's right. Okay, So we didn't add it.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
We don't.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
We don't have seven teams, right, No, I get the
playout this so well, it'll probably be coming at some point.
So two wild cards, four division winners. Is that it? Okay?
Then there's your there's your playoff teams Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Baltimore,
Kansas City Chargers, and Texans. Now you tell me of
those six teams, which team you think is the easiest
(07:35):
out right now, it would be the Texans, the most
inconsistent of the six. Yes, Texans. So I love them,
but let's just let's have a come to Jesus about them.
We try to use the glass half full. I always
try to be fair. It's never personal. The problem is
that you don't have enough players doing the right thing
all the time, especially on offense on every play. And
(07:58):
I don't know many teams that are good enough to
overcome to mishaps on offense seventy five eighty percent of
the time on an offensive play. So that's just the
reality of it. They're seven and five for a reason.
They beat one good team and that was a struggle
to win. And the quarterback was nine to thirty. And
every other team Sands, New England, for the most part,
(08:22):
has hung around. Even the friggin Dallas Cowboys hung around
for a minute. And that team blows right now, we
say that, and what do they do? They beat Washington.
They tried to give it away, so and it may
hurt people's feelings, Wow, what do you mean? Well, I
really don't care if it hurts your feelings, because we
say all the good stuff when it matters and when
(08:44):
you got to point it out. And I don't even
think I'm being as hard on them as we should,
honest to God, because I know how hard it is
to win in the league. I understand injuries coming to play.
I understand the expectations. The league's good. There's great players.
But you know what, you were support to be one
of them, and at seven and five you are. You're
you're one of them. The problem is you are not.
(09:09):
There's no there's no way you can look at this
team super Bowl talent. There's no way you can look
at this team and say execution says super Bowl. They're
They're just not all right. Who's better than Let's go
the NFC? Green Bay plays them right now? Who wins
Green Bay? Okay, Detroit, Detroit, well, we've seen them both
beat him, right, Minnesota as well, they're all in three
versus that that division and one and one and three
(09:30):
because Chicago bears. So there's three playoff teams. Philly, the Philly,
Philly is far better than them right now, let's see,
and you got to go to the NFC South Atlanta.
I would the toss up between those two depending on
where it's play favorite Texans as well, and then who's
Washington the final wild card team whom I'm missing out on?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Detroit, Minnesota, Philly, Atlanta, Seattle, Yeah, Seattle's winning the NFC
West and then the wild card with be the other
wildcard would be Washington.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
So Washington, yeah, uh a toss up against Seattle, toss
up against Washington. Fair. AFC is deeper and they're in
the wrong conference if you like, if you're looking for, uh,
they can they can beat I mean, they'd be either
a pick em or favorite depending on where it is.
With three teams in the NFC, and ironically two of
the teams, well, the three teams in the AFC, that
(10:23):
or the NFC, they wouldn't be fair. Let's see four teams.
Should I say they wouldn't be favored against Minnesota, they
wouldn't be favored against green Bay, they wouldn't be favored
against Detroit, and they sure as hell wouldn't be favored
against Philly. Yeah, so that's four teams. Who else? Did
you you said, Saddle leads the West, lead the West?
So and then what Washington? You got?
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Detroit, Minnesota, green Bay all would have playoff spots as
it is today with Washington on the outside looking in.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Okay, so they're the Minnesota and green Bay would have
the two walks. In Seattle's last couple wins of catapult
them head Arizona. They're they're ahead in the division by
a game er I believe half a game now. They're
playing good football. Seattle is but I would take I
would think depending on if you played them in the
Super Bowl, which that's the get, you'd get great odds
to make a lot of money if you pick the
(11:08):
Texans versus the Seattle Seahawks right now in the Super Bowl.
But my point is is it right now of the
twelve teams, ten of them would be nine of them
because you're the Texans, you would be would be favored
over the you would pick to beat the Texans. Yeah,
you'd pick the field over the Texans other than other
than Seattle and Atlanta Atlanta right now, that's it. Which
(11:31):
they're capable, but right now, neither one are great, but
both are capable of winning. Well, they're the Texans of
the NFC potential. And I would argue that Texans have
more talent than both of those teams overall, on both
sides of the ball. Yeah, on well, talent, paper, talent period.
The execution of the talent's big difference. Right, So, I uh,
(11:54):
if you're not a dog in the postseason, forget it.
I don't care how talent you are. Let me ask
you this. You know that who's a big time player.
We talked about a little yesterday. He's all the talent
in the world, but he's a kind of a guy
who's not don't have a lot of fight in him. Yeah,
when things are going bad, yep, or you gotta get
(12:17):
and he's a nine talent and a five dog. And
then I switch it and I give you a nine
dog with a six talent five talent. Who you taking? Oh,
give me the six talent nine dog all day. You're
gonna win more. Damn right, you just want to go
to well, you gotta have talent to get in. There's
no doubt.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
Now.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
I've seen plenty of guys on Sundays that are talented
when things are going well and they just you said,
how do you make that play? And then they disappear. Yeah,
I'll take dogs now, And it used to be what
no talent, no chance if it's close on both sides,
give me more dog than less dog, and less talent
than more talent. I'm gonna beat you more than you're
gonna beat me.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Give me a team full of six talent with nine
or ten killer instinct dog mentalities, I'm gonna win a
lot of freaking games.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Yeah, you're gonna beat the team that's got a bunch
of talent that did not sure what day they want
to show up and get a hang nail and want
to miss or it takes practice off or doesn't work
in the offseason, has excuses for everything, those kind of guys.
But they know their five star talent. I mean, well,
I don't know how to respond and get punched in
the mouth. Well, let's go back to the University of
Texas for the oft we well there's more than one. Yeah,
(13:18):
there's more than one. But let's go back to the
University of Texas when before, just when Mack was leaving,
all the respect we have University of Texas and why
they've had to make some changes, and now they got
him talent and dogs both but and Mac had a
hell of a run. And look what he did to
help build North Carolina again second time around. Mac Brown
gets it. But for a long time, they'd get five
(13:40):
stars and the guys would leave three stars. They did
not develop players, constant changes, and they had great talent,
minimal dogs. Now they got big dogs and a bunch
of them and a lot of talent, so you could
see it. And that carries over into the NFL. And
right now in the NFL, the team that has the
guy that will rather will body blow you and fight
(14:01):
you and you have to kill him to not literally
but figuratively kill him to beat him. They're gonna get
you more often than the guy who can run by
you and jump higher than you. But when it gets
to nut cutting time disappears. Yeah, yeah, you can't have
those guys, No, you can. You'll get to a certain
point because you're never advanced effects say.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
You won't keep winning. No, uh, what's the uh? As
we get ready to go to break what's the uh?
The little oven thing you have that you make your
pizza in.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Oonie? These nuts on your forehead? What do you what
are you gonna say?
Speaker 6 (14:34):
Not?
Speaker 1 (14:34):
No word about Nie. No, I don't think it's the Yeah,
it's the Uni Uni does trace Quatos Cinco says, saying no, No,
we're we're not doing Tuesday to day. Oh what are
we doing? Canceled it for my friends at Esco? Wow, No,
we're doing Uh since it's a mortgage and triple he's
gone tomorrow right? Correct?
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Are you?
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Are you taking off tomorrow? No, Sean, I don't take
days off pee tripley. What you got to hand me now? Too?
What I'm here day and night? It's true, Okay, I
don't know about Brian.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
He was working. He's working weekends too. I will say this, Well,
you know what, he's got a head north. He's going
to Tulsa.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
I'll say this to Here's one thing I'll say to you.
So what are we doing today? Plethora? We are doing
a Smorgesborger. You pick any all seventy rock wrap two
thousands wrap head back to just nineteen sixties Merle hack,
I don't care what you do. Today's a Smorgesborg. We're
(15:35):
gonna taytond Tuesday's gonna take it back because you think
about what all the all the great foods you like Thanksgiving,
Tripley won't be here tomorrow, so yeah, tomorrow's Western Wednesday.
So we're gonna smorges borget up today. Good all right, Tripley,
Good luck over there, dude, yep, got all right, man,
I got to play. What do you want to know about? What?
What are you going to say? You got hammer? No,
(15:57):
I just want to get you this morning thinking I
wake up thinking, don't don't we all? Yeah, Well, don't
make me laughing at something a little slower than I do. True?
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Whoamo? Jamiico Ryan spoke to the media yesterday. You ready
to hear this one?
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Uh? I've already heard, but I'm still ready. What do
you say about the loss and how he wants to
sting all week? That's next.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
More Sean Salisbury get in, strap in and ride in.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Seven seven on he is the number Joe got. A
couple of early callers got out to the phone lines.
What's up John.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Thany, guys, good morning.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
Hey.
Speaker 7 (16:41):
I wanted to weigh in, uh, following up on what
I did yesterday. You know, you know I said I
blame it one hundred percent on the coaching, and I
know Sean you said you can't do that, but I
am gonna do it. I'm gonna keep I'm gonna keep,
you know, ID one hundred percent on the coaching. I mean, John,
let me interrupting real quick.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
You know I love your your energy and your takes
on this, but how in the world is a one
hundred so so the interception thrown? I mean, I know
what you're saying, and I think it's I think what
you're saying that there's no way you can take all
you There's no way on earth, and as smart as
you are and no sports and love all your energy,
there's no way you can say that every decision Stroud
(17:21):
or Tunsil makes is on the coach. You can't you
kill or a mistackles on the coaching. Let me let
me explain it. Look at the Texans team.
Speaker 7 (17:30):
What aspect of the Texans has improved during the year. Nobody, Uh,
I mean you look at the defense, it's it is
what it is Uh, the offense has gotten worse, kicking
game is worse.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Uh, There's nothing you.
Speaker 7 (17:47):
Can point to that shows any improvement. And I and
I just feel that I just get this feeling nobody's.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Like really held accountable there.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
I don't maybe Dimico's too nice, I don't know, but
I mean it's no I just care think there's no accountability.
I mean, how do you think Danny Green, you played
for him, how do you think he'd be reacting right?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Well, you would, yeah, if you will, not only that,
if you were a left tackle doing that, you wouldn't play.
You wouldn't play. Now do I believe that there's some
accountability issues, Oh, there's no doubt. Do I believe the
performances and I do believe. I think the edge rushing,
I think the the front seven. I think they've gotten
better this year. So I do think they've taken a
(18:26):
step forward. But you are one hundred percent correct. The
offense has not gotten better. The offense has regressed in
twenty twenty four period. Now, Nico Collins is a dog,
but unfortunately they don't have a lot of them right
now offensively getting it done, and they're too soft upfront.
They're two nights. I just as soon have somebody get
kicked out of a game as an offensive line to
send a message. I would. I'm to the point now
(18:49):
that I need you to get to the point where
they have to come up and say enough, send me
a message without hurting somebody that says, you know what,
I've had enough of this crap and I have had
enough of it. And if you're them and you have
a point and they're a seven and five team, that
is a soft seven and five period on offense, Yeah,
(19:09):
they just don't have that dog in them.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
And you know, we'll find out what they're made up
with these last games that are you know, the rest
of their schedule. But I just they're just it just
seems like there's just like again I'm sounding like a
broken record, but there's just no accountability anywhere. And I
mean to do to blame that on the defense like
to be I mean that I was so disappointed in that,
But I mean, I just think that he's they got
(19:34):
to look at themselves. I mean, the coaches got to
look at themselves. Are we are we getting the most
out of these players? I mean the answers definitely know
And why is that they're not accountable.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
You know what's interesting too about that, John is I'm
with you on the is and I know you like Demiko,
and so do I a lot.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
I almost feel now this is just my perception as
the zeer, I have zero insight on this with him.
I almost feel like he said that because he feels
like the defense is mentally tough enough to handle it,
that he couldn't put it on the offense because they
may not be mentally tough enough to handle it. I
swear that's how I feel. I thought about that yesterday.
I'm thinking he can't think that his defense they really
(20:12):
literally the defense, I mean they eight sacks, three turnovers,
a pick six. I know they gave up some big plays,
but you want me to reverse that. And the offense
really scored one touchdown. I know they scored a socond one,
but that was a one play after an eighty yard return.
I'm with you, it bothered me the offense.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
If the offense is that soft, like you said, they
got a real problem.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Well don't you don't you agree that there's a softness
about him? Most definitely? Yeah? Absolutely, yeah, bothers me, yep,
I'm with you.
Speaker 7 (20:44):
Yeah, yeah, and they just I don't know, you just
don't see that fighting them at all. And I don't know,
you know, that's that's just my feeling. But but I
but I do feel it goes up to the top.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
I really do.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
And uh, I don't know, he's got to get in
some of these players, grill and just say, look, you
know you practice, you do what we tell you. I mean,
you know, not showing up for practice and all that stuff.
I mean, that's just intolerable to me. And I don't know,
I just don't like the way things are being handled
there at all. So I'm gonna just stick with it.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
John, I understand. I do get what you're saying. And
there's an instinct, Derek there's something missing, and accountability maybe
one of it. John, thanks for the call. I'll tell
you another thing. How many guys on the offense. It
speaks to one of two things. Accountability, How many guys
on offense If it's not for the short time benching
(21:38):
that Kenyan Green went through before he was hurt, remember,
and he came back in and then he got hurt
on unfortunate injury. But I don't know how long he
was for the position anyway, but he's hurt and that's
a bummer. Hopefully he gets back healthy. How many guys?
How many guys on that offense if it's not for
injury miss have they sat down none? How many times
(22:00):
after it? Okay? If Laramie Tunsel was a second year
player or was Kenyon Green and had fifteen penalties.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
He'd be benched. Say it louder, he'd be benched. Look
at last year. Remember when Jalen Petrie.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Was benched, sat him down because he's missing tackles and
all those on disciplined second your play player, I think
year three for Petrie. Here's what what bothers me. So
if it's not, if accountabilities all there and they're practicing great,
then you know what it tells me why some guys
aren't you come over here and stand by me for
a series and let's gather our senses here. Too many penalties.
(22:33):
It tells me that they don't believe they're deep enough
anywhere offensively to replace that. The distance between one and
two is a monster gap. At some point in time,
there can't You're not a sacred cow. If you have
sixteen penalties or fifteen penalties during the season, you're leading
(22:54):
the league again in pal he will lead the league
in penalties if he didn't play another snap. Now, I
want you to I want you I don't even know
who's second. Fifteen sixteen penalties and those are the ones
that have been that they've accepted. I'm talking about. There's
been more that have been declined or offsetting or what
have you. He'll lead the league in penalties more than likely.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Offensively, Tyler Guiden is number two and he's three penalties
behind Laramie Tunzel, the offensive tackle for Dallas.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
There is a chance that he will lead the league
in penalties if he didn't play another snap this year.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Yeah, think about that, and he's a starting left tackle.
There's no account Bowyer. I brought this up to you yesterday.
I asked you about the accountability factor. Well, from our
vantage point, we're not there. The accountability seems to be
lacking on the offensive side ball and I know to Miko, listen,
if you watch Nick Saban real quick over the weekend,
he was talking about what I've said to you many times.
He goes, well, I was always in the dB meetings.
(23:49):
That's what he said.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
They were talking breaking some film or some about on
college game day and he mentioned that, and it hit
me hard again because I say, listen, save it ain't
going to hang around the quarterback. I mean, he's sitting
in the dB meeting. If you're the DBC and you
guys aren't accountable, your ass will be fired. And so
I think I'm sure Demiko's harder on his defense. He's
a defensive guy. I'll be harder on my quarterbacks, and
I wouldn't. That's just that you lean towards that or
(24:12):
your guys and you're watching him because that's what you've
been primed to do your whole career. But it doesn't
mean the rest has to go unnoticed. And I watched
this offense. I'm thinking, how with these weapons, is this
offense worse? Yeah? How well?
Speaker 4 (24:28):
I mean you look at Dimko what he said to
the Media's offense gave us enough points.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Our defense, we got to do this, this and this
gave you fourteen points, but really seven seven, that's what
they gave you. It was a one play in the
end zone and you could have thrown it underhand. It
was a touchdown. There was nobody and they were reeling
after the eighty yard returns. Was the defense the Titans.
So I'm telling you you get beat this week. You're in,
(24:53):
you are depending on what the close. There's a dangerous,
dangerous trend here. Oh yeah, and it's a trend foot tall.
It's a trend. It's been a trend for a year long,
weekend and week out.
Speaker 5 (25:03):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
We'll continue this discussion about the Texans and the lack
of accountability. Seven one three two on two five, seven ninety.
We'll also hear from Demiko Ryans. That's next a spot
stalk seven ninety. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Take another
quick Call seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Billy, where you been? Man? Hey, a little bit of everywhere?
Long story, Yeah, the astros Astro season comes to a close,
and you did man sad?
Speaker 8 (25:32):
Yeah, Uh got a got a couple of family things
going on in my wife's in the hospital. But uh
it's all good man, God's got this.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
I worry we.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Uh but we hate to hear that, and we wish
you guys the best man truly, I appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (25:45):
Then, Hey, y'all could have left me on whole. We
could listen to Richard Girl all day long. Uh, love
that love that song. But uh now I want to
I wanted to get some just uh a little bit
on the coaching of the of the Texans, and.
Speaker 9 (25:57):
Uh I'm yeah.
Speaker 8 (25:59):
I was ready for Sean to go absolutely scorched earth
on this team yesterday, and uh there's a lot of it.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Went earth, just not quite as scorched as it but
starting to build a crescendo because I'm more pissed today
than I was yesterday.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
Yeah, I am.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Let it simmer a little bit and see if you're overreacting.
I think we're underreacting. I think this team's average. I
do not average average performance. I think they're average, right.
Speaker 8 (26:23):
And you know, uh yeah, I've hear I've heard a
lot of people talk about players going through like sophomore slumps,
and I'm wondering if our coaching staff hasn't found a
sophomore slump. But uh, now, what I'm questioning is I
played baseball for twenty five years and I played for
some really good coaches. I won't get into that, but
there was coaches that could take your arm slot and
(26:45):
add a mile an hour.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
To your fastball.
Speaker 8 (26:47):
They could show it, could show you ways to peel
a tenth of a second off of your reaction time
when you're stealing bases. Show you how to get the
back through the through the zone better, it would lag
a little bit and you can go the other way anyway.
All of that in baseball, But in football, are there
things shown that these coaches can show Like the linemen
(27:10):
where they're not getting off the line right. I'm not
talking about fall stars of Tunsul. That's just a mental thing.
That's a lack of focus, and that's a lack of discipline.
But I'm talking about guys like Green and other guys
that are just getting absolutely they're a turnstile.
Speaker 10 (27:26):
They might as well not even be on the field.
Speaker 8 (27:28):
Is there something that they can be shown to help
them to be in position to make that block or
is it a lack of talent on their part?
Speaker 1 (27:38):
And I really don't know the answer.
Speaker 8 (27:39):
I played football one play my sophomore year. I got
hit coming across the middle, took my wind and I said, coach,
I want to play baseball. So just giving you the
facts there, But is there things there's little tweaks, and
maybe our coaching have just isn't good enough or experienced
enough to be able to show these guys that and
(28:01):
it's a lack of this one on their part because
they're not good enough at their craft. And I'd just
like to get your opinion it because I really don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Billy, great point, man, invest you to your wife and
you guys, happy Thanksgiving to your brother, and you make
a great point. I would certainly hope not that were
here in the NFL and we got guys that can't
keep teaching technique. Now here's what I do know. You've
got to be receptive to it as a player and
not know everything. So you got to be coachable, which
(28:30):
go to any coach when you're twelve, And Billy, I'm
sure when you play baseball, what's the number one thing
we want? Well, I guy that's good, that is a
self start and gets it done. But it's coachable that
it's willing that doesn't think he's arrived at ten, let
alone at twenty five. All right, So I would I
would sure hope that they know how to teach and
(28:51):
out of coaching and teaching are different teachings. The teaching's
the tough part. Anybody can yell and screen, put a
whistle in their mouth and coach and do it. Can
you teach them and can you elevate somebody to get
better now? Off seasons are usually spent on mechanics in season, though,
But when you're watching tape and you're doing it, yes,
it's incumbent upon the coach at that position to be
(29:14):
able to say, hey, we can't move on until you
take the right step. Now. If the player keeps taking
the wrong step under the rest and can't block an
eight gap blitz, then it just gets to a point
first round pick or not, then your ass just isn't
good enough to play. And trust me, all the experts
who draft in this league don't tell experts is used loosely.
They miss plenty, they read same draft reports. We say,
(29:36):
let's jump all over them, and then the guy doesn't develop.
They've reached their best. You know that twelve year old
kid that reached his best performance as a little leagueer
at twelve and never got better in high school. That's
what times can happen. Whether that's the case here or not,
I don't know. I do know this, though, To go
from a position coach to a play caller is difficult.
Play caller in rhythm. I'm not talking about slok, I'm
(29:58):
talking about anybody's hard to do to get into a rhythm.
It's easier to be a play caller and then go
to a position coach, because that's how you cut your
teeth in the first place. So yes, Billy, there is
plenty of ways too, And there is a way during
the season while you're working on mechanics in the off season,
during the season to be able to yes. When you're
(30:19):
watching tape saying why are we taking this step?
Speaker 11 (30:21):
Sean?
Speaker 1 (30:21):
What do you see here at quarterback or Tonsil? What's
going through your mind pre snap? And simply for Tonsil,
that's just a lack of concentration. It just is. And
quite frankly, we're on the point of embarrassment for a
grown ass man to get this many penalties in a
game that you wouldn't let an eight year old in
his league do. And I don't really care if it
(30:44):
defends them, because how many more times were going to
make Why could you get paid the most? And matter
of fact, you get paid the most. We expect more
when your pre snap stuff is acting like a seven
year old who's never put his hand in the dirt
and he can't focus on a down set. White Eddy
hut hut I understand the guy you're blocking's good, then
(31:04):
why isn't every single friggin tackle in the league getting
jumping off side forty times? And if you're the best
in the business, you should probably cut that in half.
It proved to the world why you're the best, because
right now, if I'm the other four guys, I'm looking
at my leader on the offensive line saying, damn, you're
gonna coach me up during on the sideline when you
(31:25):
can't even get off the ball the equivalent of a
quarterback throwing for four hundred because Tunsil can block his
ass off when when the ball snapped, but we can't
see him. Yeah, but he's good when the ball snapped.
My quarterback's really good when the ball snap, but he
can't make a decision pre snap to save his life.
Can you imagine if he said that about a guy
and you wanted to call him the best in the league,
you'd never do it. Matter of fact, he'd eventually play
(31:47):
his way out of the position. So, yeah, you're you're
exactly right. While technique and mechanics are in the off season,
because everybody's putting a game plan in week to week
on the focus and we really don't have time. In
the NFL, who stop down for one player during the
season and say, dude, you're so few, you're behind. You
got to keep up. Are you studying at home? That's
another thing I'd like to know, honest to god, that
(32:10):
nobody talks about. How many of these guys are leaving
the building and when they get home instead of popping
on that dog on video game or whatever the control is.
How many of them turn on TV. How many of
them are spending an extra hour saying, Okay, what can
I do, bless you? What can I do to quit
jumping off sides? What can I do to understand an
(32:33):
a gap blitz? How much tape of my studying on
my own. It's called doing the lonely work that I
would require every twelve year old to do. And you
know what, we can't do monitor what their ass is
doing at home, So you can only do so much,
which I try to get the coaches. I'd like to
think these coaches know what they're doing. You can only
do so much. I can't babysit them and follow them
(32:53):
to their home. I'd like to know, if we had
a lie detector, how many of these cats are going
home once they leave this building. I don't care if
they have fun kids at home. I don't care if
they have a wife. I don't care if they're not
married and they have nothing in their single How many
of them are going home and doing the lonely work,
the work when nobody's watching and patting your ass on
the back because you get credit for it, The work
where nobody cares what you're doing, but you're sitting there grinding.
(33:15):
It doesn't mean you can't live your life and have fun.
But I can tell you this, whatever they're doing, it
ain't it ain't enough. It's not even working hard. It's
called working smarter. So yes, there's technique, but you know what,
I can coach your ass off and teach you and
teach you and teach you if you're not willing to
learn how to take the right step on an a
(33:36):
gap blitz, or how to help off and and and
get help from your back and when he's chipping, how
to take the proper angle on offensive line or a
proper angle on defense. When you guys running down the
seam and you gotta you got to you gotta be
to the seam and take off the seam or you're
the middle linebacker and you got to get underneath the
bender because you're too deep. You're supposed to take away
that pump uh, that pump scene, that pump over the
(33:57):
middle bender, all these things. Yeah, I don't know, but
I can promise you. I guarant ask to you. Fifty
three dudes aren't going home and studying when they leave.
And I'm trying to deduct what can it be they're
in the building all day. I can't imagine coaches or
that the coaches are lazy and they can't see what
we see. They're just supposed to be the expert. So
(34:18):
are the players doing the lonely worker? Is it just Hey,
it's like going to your job and just doing what
you're supposed to do for eight hours. But you got
a sales Are you going home on your computer and
working out your spreadsheets so you can make that sale
for the next day and make the company a million bucks?
What value do you bring? And if the value is
that you're just a first round pick that is good
some of the time but can't focus the other part
(34:39):
of the time, then you know what. Grab a bullet
and a cigarette or an apple in a roadmap and
get your ass out, because if all we want to
do is make the playoffs great, that's good to the
study a little bit. So are you doing all those
other things that we don't see? And guess who knows
that them? And quite frankly, you tell me if that
(35:00):
offense looks like it's doing extra lonely work. Just my opinion.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Let's keep this discussion rolling right here on the Shawn
Salsbury Show.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Why You're back. This is the Sean Salisbury Show, Get
back at it.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Jalen Petrie expected to miss multiple weeks with a partially
torn pectoral muscle. Kirk Kerbstre're gonna join the show at
eight o'clock this morning.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
I'm always concerned if it's a pectoralis major, pectoralis minor.
I think it's a major hurts major injury on the
pectoralis major, right, and it hurts like Jalen, al right
it yeah, so it is the pectoralis major? It is? Yeah, Well,
so what happened? What would what would be happening if
it was this pectoralis min minor?
Speaker 4 (35:43):
It would be it would be a minor issue, it
would it would Yeah, but it's basically the name of.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
The muscle actually is how severe the injury is?
Speaker 5 (35:51):
Right?
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Could you imagine naming your son major? Yeah, like Major
apple White.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
I can. I like that name. I think it's awesome.
What I do. I think it's a great name because
your son's that because I like to Dilan and Dodge
better exactly, because no one names her kid major. Well,
you think about certain names. I should know this. What's
your daughter's name? That's right? Think about your name her major?
Because she was she was a was not a male. Okay,
(36:18):
who says now she was born before all the non sense. Yeah,
she's not a male. She's a female born one today
one right, I agree with you. There's you can never
change your female and what's your born one. That's who
you are, you say, regardless of how much you try
to change it. There's no transition. Okay, Okay, I don't
give you that, say Adam Richard to me and fuel.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
I feel like there was a hint of sexism there, know, Major.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
I really don't care. Is okay? You can if you're stupid.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
Well, it's like, uh, it's like, uh, what's the It's
like naming.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Your daughter Tommy. No, I think Tommy, I think Tommy
or Charlie, are really really cool female name right? Exactly?
What's wrong with Major? Well, I don't know. I just
remember last Surgeryda Richard to me, Okay, okay, we didn't
(37:16):
do a lot of joking yesterday. Joke on these or
choke on these, whatever one you prefer. I can just
tell you this. My daughter's uh shay. Yes, I didn't
name her Major or my two kids because it really
wasn't my favorite name. I do get why something. Because
your name Major, you better be good, exactly, no pressure.
Brad Johnson, he named Max Max Johnson is Maximus? Is
(37:40):
his name? That's dope, awesome? Yeah, and think about Maxim.
You better be right. I already know he was. Okay,
he wasn't a bad but you know, I'm just telling
you man, So yeah, no, you can name your if
you wouldn't name your daughter Major.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Have at it like you you grow up like you
name your kid Major, and you grow hoping that your son,
let's say it's the sun. You hope your son's going
to be this badass athlete. He ends up being like
a just a badass chess.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Player's bad as something that could be a bad ass
athlete to be successful the next match. It is a
championship game of the chess Championships of Houston. You got
to be a great thinker, major smith. Yeah, what's wrong
with that?
Speaker 4 (38:23):
You walk in, You see this dork with glasses, bottle
canot Printon money. Dorks make a lot of money, dude. Yeah,
they're smart. I wish I was a door.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
And so you don't have to be just be a
great athlete to be considered a macho, good, tough winner.
You can be a great chess player and be a winner.
I'm sure they're printing money too, if you're really good
at it. Yeah. Well, so I don't mind dorks. Okay,
but I'm not naming a daughter major. But I do
understand why a guy you'd name you feel sexist on
your apartment and you know what, Well, guess what maybe
(38:51):
it is and live with it. Yeah. Okay, if me
not want to name a daughter major is sexist, I'll
own it. Okay, problem, do we have a problem? Print
that twice? Yeah? Put that on. So if that now
I could then I'll go to you and say, well,
the fact that you said Charlie and Tommy are not
female names, I could say that said you could say well, yeah,
(39:13):
that's like giving your daughter Tommy. I think Tommy. I
think Tommy is a great name for a girl. I
think I think Charlie is a great name for a girl.
Speaker 5 (39:23):
I do.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
I think it's kind of cool. You're not gonna spell it.
See you're not gonna call her chuck. Okay, you could, though,
you could. I mean, depending on what's happened along the way,
I want to call her chats.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
Let's say our producer was a woman named Charlie. You know,
damn well, we would call her chuck. Oh, there's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
Yea.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
But yeah, but Tripley is not a lady, and so
we would listen, I'd put respect it. Woman was named major.
I mean, I just don't know. I don't think I've
ever met a woman. No, yeah, he's here. I don't
know if I've ever met a woman named major. Well,
I've seen the Charlie's and the Tommy's and the Ricky is.
Saying the name Ricky for a female Ricky Lake that,
(40:01):
But I don't think major fits. Okay, that's sexis You'll
get over it. Okay. Those women in the military that
are technically majors, Yeah, well that's that's that's something they've
earned with but with just saying another patch on their
uniform and rightfully so, okay, but the name major, you
got to be good. Okay. Can you name a woman major? Yes, you,
(40:27):
of course you can, but it may not work for you.
M hmm. I mean, so me not naming a woman
major sexist? Oh well okay, oh.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
Well yeah, not a lot of You got to name
a dude Lucy, you could, Okay, you could, okay, and
then we look at you like you're.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
No. What if a guy was named Lucy and they
called him lou I'd say Lucy, he also was just
a a this none of that's weird. What if he's
the best player in the world, five star recruit, goes
on and wins the m v P five times and
his name's Lucy.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Sounds like to me, yeah, well you better be you'd be. Well,
I'm just saying like.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
That's no punishment walking into a school and say Lucy.
Remember remember when you were like seven at eight and hey,
let's take roll and if your name they couldn't pronounce
your name, imagine that on a guy. A kid walks
in there and says, hey, Lucy. The self esteem is
when when all the eight year olds, because that's like
when a woman who's big or a male who's big
walks through the line and the kid who the kid says, hey,
why is that guy so fat? And the kid's five
(41:31):
told the truth when you say be quiet, you put
that little bastard across the freaking room. Them kids because
they are asked.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
You don't want to be You don't want to put
them in a self estep and the hell out of
somebody if they did that. And I would say, that's
the adults. We can say that they're fat.
Speaker 1 (41:47):
You can. And then the second you back here your
kid in the grocery store line, then you get then yeah,
protect your services comes in and you no longer have
a kid, right, okay, so best for you never to
have a kid. The kids there you go and there
are never being a daughter to see a major at punks,
aren't they They can be? Can be? They can be,
They're not all No, you gotta respect runs early. I
(42:09):
would have never said that line because my old man would.
It would have been a hell. I wouldn't add away
from my dad. My mom would have nipped that in
a in a hurry.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
You know, it's crazy but going into the spring season,
I'm coaching ten year olds.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Yeah, yeah, they're at They're the fragile age. So don't
slap them upside the head when they they don't straighten
it out on a line drive foul. And I can
assure you that if you're coaching a female, I would
imagine no mom or dad is naming their kid major.
Yeah it's a female. Just a hunch. If that's sexist,
well yeah, exactly WHOA. I don't have to like everybody's names. Okay,
(42:47):
there you go.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
Let's get a seven o'clock hour and talk about these textans.
Got to hear the audio from Demiko Ryans. That's next
to Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Hoheart Radio station.
Speaker 12 (43:01):
And the Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety your Home for
your Home Jeens Salisbury, Salisbury, Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Sewan Salisbury, there to usc truths, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
Right here on seven on your Home for Rockets Basketball.
Jalen Peatree expected to miss multiple weeks with a partially
torn peck. Kirk Herbstreet going to join the show at
eight o'clock this morning.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
I'm going to tell you, do not discount how important
that Petrie losses.
Speaker 5 (43:43):
Man.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
It is huge. He's the big big He's become a
guy who we know flies around and hits you, but
has done a really a much better job this year
at covering people. Now, you don't want to get him
on your number one receiver, DeVante Adams. We saw how
that turned out. You don't want that. But he hits you.
He's around the football. You can hover him around the
line of scrimmage. He can cover a back, cover a
(44:06):
tight end, and even help you on a third or
fourth receiver. I think Petrie's had a damn good year
that is. And what it does, it just cuts into
your depth. Now the guy who was not the nickel
is now the nickel. The guy who moves down now
you have a box safety. You bring him down. It
puts you on an island out on the corners, and
they've got two good corners to handle it. But I
(44:27):
don't know if you want to live in man coverage
all the time, especially when you're playing against teams that
have home run hitters, a wide receiver and then play action.
There's a there's a lot of there's a lot of
layers to the Jalen Petrie injury, that becomes a problem.
He's become one of the better safeties in the league.
Their back end has been really good.
Speaker 5 (44:42):
Man.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
They've given up some big plays, which is a problem,
but they've played some really good football this year too. Yeah,
Jaalen Petri's had a standout year for that's a dog. Yeah,
it is full time. I mean that that ain't no,
that ain't no schnauzer or chihuahua house in his backyard.
That's a big old great Dane doghouse. Sarah Man, that's
a monster. Yeah. A big loss. Yeah, that sucks. So
(45:06):
hopefully he'll be back in a couple of weeks. But uh,
what's worse? See what's tougher? If I said, right now
Petrie or Digs the loss? Which one of which? Which
which one? Well, the offense has struggled. But if I
said you were going to lose both of those guys,
which one would you say? Judging from now, as good
as Digs is as good as Petrios? Which one's gonna
(45:28):
sting more?
Speaker 5 (45:29):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (45:29):
Petrie? I think so too. He flies around. I think
there's there. They have more depth, Yeah, more depth offensively tank.
Dell's proven he can come in and do it hell
the way the way that Nico Collins is playing, He's
worth two. I mean that dude's a monster. And the
elevation and you'd see more if our passing protection was
(45:50):
sewn up a little bit better, and then for them
to elevate and and Stroud getting back into getting rid
of this. He has got to do everything he can
to fight off the great ones, and I think he's
a great one. He still in the infancy to be
able to fight off and not allow the old when
I say the old man, and not allow that to
creep in the creep in of your head. Ghost places
(46:10):
right now, vision goes places when they're when you're getting
hit that it didn't go as a rookie. The trust
that he's going to have to get back and those
guys are going to have to earn it up front
as well. It's it's gonna be important because you can't
listen as good as Joe is, You're not gonna win
a championship if if Mixing is your if he's the
(46:31):
bell cow and the rest is and you just can't
set your feet throw on the football, and it's gonna
be a it's gonna be a mental battle for CJ.
Stroud to say, I got to get out of the
mode because his mechanics in his pocket presence has been
a little different this year, which is forced him to
miss throws that if you took that guy out there
on a day, he won't miss those throws with one
eye closed, let alone two. Yeah, he's pretty good, but
(46:52):
there's a there there is, there's a there's an effect
that goes on a domino thing on teams with depth,
but also when things start to happen, you can't help
but allow things to creep in that you don't want
to creep in. He's gonna have to fight it if
they're gonna be the type of team they want to.
And I would have never thought going into this season,
at this time of the year that if you said, Sean,
where's there an issue? It would never have been the
(47:14):
passing game for you. Yeah, yeah, exactly never even I
would have never thought it. No, and I'm not saying weakness,
but it is a every place struggle to get them
to where they were last year because they are not
the same. No, no, they're not.
Speaker 4 (47:28):
Jamiko Ryan spoke to the media yesterday and he talked
about how long he's gonna basically think about this loss
against the Titans. Usually he's a guy that flushes it
and moves forward. Not with this loss, is what he said.
Speaker 1 (47:40):
This is extremely tough, and I'm not letting this one go.
Speaker 13 (47:44):
This will be a week long one that I make
sure we all remember. And so I mean, we gotta
we gotta change, we gotta play better. So this one
is gonna sit with me all week until we get
the opportunity to go out and compete again versus versus
the Jaguar.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
So I want this to sit.
Speaker 13 (48:00):
I want this this thing all week for our guys,
and I want everybody to feel I know this I'm
gonna be feeling all week until we were able to
go in change it.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
That's Dimiko Ryan's talking about it. He hope it stings
all week.
Speaker 4 (48:13):
Usually coaches are guys that you know, you look at
the film on a Monday, you address everything that happened,
and then a lot of people you hear. It's typical
coach peak. Right, we're focused on the Jaguars. We're moving
forward now, he says, he hopes it stings all week.
Speaker 1 (48:30):
Here's the thing that you got to be it's dangerous
if his team's thinking the same way. I understand what
he's talking about. You gotta file this away and keep
it on your shoulder because it's got to piss you
off with what happened. But you're going to tell your players,
we've got to move on to the next one. If
they're letting this hover, it can work one of two ways.
If you let it hang around, it can be I'm pissed,
(48:51):
I'm gonna take it out on Jacksonville. Or you can
let it hover and one mistake or two mistakes, and
you know what, the team starts to think back and
if they haven't let go, here we go. Yeah, And
if it's here we go again. You will lose in Jacksonville.
And Jacksonville's not good. No, they're not. They're they're they're
an average football team, putting neither were the Titans. There
you go. So I get what with Tamiko's saying there.
(49:15):
He wants it to sit in there crawl. The problem
is you're gonna have to flush it out before you
walk on the field Saturday, and you can't allow it
to affect your practice. But I think he wants this
one to to to sit around and and be in
there and grow teeth. First football team I do, because
right now they're gumming you to death? Do you want
(49:36):
to get gum?
Speaker 14 (49:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (49:37):
It takes a lot longer. Yeah, okay, yeah, you better
fix it. We don't need to pull those teeth. You're
gonna have to come up with some fangs this weekend.
You're gonna have to get out through the phone line
seven one. What's happening now? Hey, good morning, guys. How
are you super? How are you doing? Happy Thanksgiving?
Speaker 11 (49:55):
Well you too, Sean?
Speaker 15 (49:56):
And Uh, I've been I've been working in Houston in
that traffic, so I haven't been calling in.
Speaker 11 (50:02):
But you know you knew I was gonna call you
this week, right.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
Oh yeah, yeah, yes, sir, I sure do. Yeah it
should be. If Lincoln Riley wants to stick around, you
can't lose the rivals. Brother had a good team too.
You Notre Dame. Notre Dame's gonna be tough for us.
Speaker 15 (50:20):
I I got some stats I want to go over
with you real quick.
Speaker 11 (50:25):
It did. There's not a lot, but you know this.
This is a ninety eighth year.
Speaker 15 (50:29):
These guys have been playing since nineteen twenty six. And
since then USC and Notre Dame have combined for twenty
four national championships.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Pretty impressive.
Speaker 11 (50:48):
Fifteen heismans.
Speaker 15 (50:50):
USC has eight and that's the most in college football.
Speaker 11 (50:55):
Notre Dame has seven.
Speaker 15 (50:58):
Yeah, SINCEUS can census all Americans, Notre Dame one hundred
and two SC eighty two, College Football Hall of Fame Notre.
Speaker 11 (51:09):
Dame forty six, SC forty three.
Speaker 15 (51:13):
And in the Pro Football Hall of Fame both have thirteen.
That is what I call two storied programs, and Sean
I basically called to wish you luck this week. I
hope both teams play their best and nobody gets hurt.
And at the end, I hope we have another great
(51:37):
football game from those two schools.
Speaker 1 (51:39):
Now one, and thank you for the call. Good luck
to you guys, happy thanksgiving your right with all those
numbers you put out, and then the number of players
that have played professional football they made it in the
league from Southern cal and Notre Dame is enormous. Two
of the top four or five, And considering all those
numbers that I'll just put out, I can't think that
there's any rivalry when it comes to that. Like heismans,
(52:03):
like you know, Alabama and Auburn, whatever, the Texas, Texas,
A and m whatever it is. Over the course of time,
I can't imagine that there's more Oklahoma Nebraska, that there's
more players and those numbers you just heard al mentioned
in a rivalry. There's no rivalry that has has been
that dominant with Heisman trophies, NFL players, all Americans. That
(52:28):
is still to this day. To me, it's still the
measuring stick. Now. I understand recently the Georgia Alabama rivalry.
I get all that, but over the course of time,
you'd be hard pressed to find a rivalry it's got
more good players in it than that one.
Speaker 4 (52:41):
I understand that Ohio State and Michigan is one of
the greatest times. Yeah, But the the national media over
the last couple of days, like for the previews for
that game is coming weekend, they keep they keep touting
it as the best rivalry of all time.
Speaker 1 (52:57):
And I get it. There's something it's argument, but I
can't put it ahead, which is because it recency. Ohio
State Michigan have both been better overall collective, right, if
you're looking at the hundred years of it, Yeah, no,
you'd be hard Plus, you know, I mean national championships
Michigan's won in the modern era. They caught tied for one,
remember the one they when they when Brian Greesey was
(53:19):
a quarterback. And I think since nineteen seventy or seventy
and last and last year. Yeah, Ohio State's won THEIRS.
SC and Notre Dame have won plenty of THEIRS. I
get the argument. Hell Army Navy's got an argument. When
it comes to great rivalries, there's plenty LS. There's a
lot of great rivalries Texas Texas, Texas, Texas, A and M,
(53:40):
but you're going to be hard pressed to find one.
I'm talking about the test time recently, I get Ohio State, Michigan.
I do in Alabama, Auburn or hell Alabama. Georgia has
become a great rivalry now, but over the course of time,
the last one hundred years, counting the number of great
players in it, in Heisman trophies, there's no better rivalry. No,
there just isn't national rivalry, you know. It's all that
(54:01):
being said, Neither of those programs are sol Ross State.
So it's crazy, no no doubt. I mean, and when
you talk about one that's going to be in the
playoffs be Notre Dame, it won't be USC and also
Soul Ross. I mean when Soul Ross is involved against
Southern caln Notre Dame, you know you do you throw
out the record. If you don't throw out all the records,
you're not paying attention.
Speaker 4 (54:18):
No, I think, if I'm not mistaken, we got our
ass kicked to tend the season.
Speaker 1 (54:23):
So, uh, not ideal. It's nice for Lincoln Riley if
they can pull off this against Notre Dame, and Ali's
team should be favored. They're better than we are. But
if we were able to pull this off against Notre Dame,
at least Lincoln Riley beat the two teams you have
to beat to keep your job when you're struggling, and
that's UCLA and Notre Dame. We got to lose those.
We got outscored one to seven over the last two games.
Speaker 4 (54:46):
Better give me the right hander, oh buddy, first first
time in Division two sports. Not good for the low
bow football team. Let's get to the stake out next

Speaker 10 (55:50):
Now back to Sean Salisbury. All right, Sean, what are
you hearing out there now?
Speaker 3 (56:00):
The Salsbury's Takeouts, Salsburrief takeout on the.
Speaker 4 (56:04):
Seawn Salisbury Show. It's time for the stake out here
on the Shawn Salisbury Show. Sean Ryan and Trip Lee,
let's talk bad ownership in the NFL. There were some
reports over the weekend Sean that Woody Johnson, the owner
for the Jets, arrived in his helicopter on practice last week.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
Caught everyone's attention. Well, that's two helicopters that have landed
on a practice field, and that's the Cowboys or the
other one. Yep, and they're not. They sucked too on
this day.
Speaker 4 (56:38):
So sometime last week, GM Joe Douglas turned to the
head coach Jeff Ulbrick and joked, if they pulled me
off the practice field, it's been an honor to serve
with you, end quote. Joe Douglas was then fired by
Woody Johnson. Apparently, Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson have been
at odds all season long. There was also another report
by Diana Russini that had appears increasingly likely that the
(57:01):
Jets are going to place Aaron Rodgers on IR or
bench him over the next few weeks. There's also another
report by Diana Rassini that Aaron Rodgers did not go
get an MRI on some injuries that he's had throughout
the season because he did not want Woody Johnson to
step in and say that he needs to be benched
for the rest of the season. There's all kinds of
issues going on with the New York Jets, but it
(57:24):
goes a little bit deeper. And that's my question for you.
What is it with these bad owners in the NFL.
Jerry Jones maybe not a bad owner, bad GM, Woody
Johnson just a bad owner. You've also got David Tepper
for Carolina, not a good owner. I mean, I could
go on and on. What is it, like, what's the
(57:46):
point in showing up in your helicopter to practice? Jerry
Jones did it. Now, Woody Johnson's done it. And apparently
Woody Johnson does this all the time to.
Speaker 1 (57:54):
Want everybody to know that you're that you're packing more
than they are, but everybody like everybody knows that. But that, well,
isn't that narcissism at its finest? One thing we have
to understand most owners? Now, Jerry played football. Jerry's egos
just bigger than his facility, and that's why he can't
(58:16):
let go of the general manager role. Let's not mistake
having a lot of money. Daniel Snyder for being a
good football guy and knows how to deal well with people.
I'm not saying that Jerry. Hey, former players love Jerry.
You think Michael Er, they hang around. Jerry's very and very,
(58:36):
very accessible to the media. I'm just talking about them all.
We mistake the fact that because you've got a lot
of money. Do you think Mark Cuban ever shot a
jump shot when he was growing up? More than likely? Okay,
do you think Mark Cuban started? I mean not saying.
I'm not saying you have to start or be a
basketball player to own a basketball team or to be
(58:56):
a good player. I don't know. I've never seen. Maybe
Mark Cuban was a dominate high school player. I don't
think so. Okay. My point is we seem to think
that guys with money automatically are the smartest at that job. Remember,
most of these cats that are here did not make
their money doing what they're doing. Now, this was their hobby,
(59:18):
right or something. Now, I'm not saying there's some that
are hell they are into it, invested in it, love sports,
love it, and fortunate. We're great businessmen. You know who'd
be a great owner and he's got enough days. Roger
Stabach fin Roger Staback was a great player. Roger Staback's
a more successful. Now think about this, he's every bit
as successful, not more, off the field as he was
(59:40):
on it. The guys A Heisman Trophy winner went to
Navy military guy, great player one of the matter of fact,
I think he may be one of the more underrated
quarterbacks of all time. Roger Staubach was playing now with
the dual threat guy, Roger Staubach would be pouring in
MVPs and he's every bit, if not better. Better businessman. Now,
that'd be a guy who understands what they're going through.
Mistake the fact that, oh, great owner. First of all,
(01:00:02):
a lot of them are social misfits. They have so
much money that they're they're they're away from everybody else.
And however, they made it, but most of them didn't
make it by grinding in their garage on how to
be a football player. Most owners made it on having
a lot of money and they got some toys they
want to play with. And guess what, they have enough
(01:00:23):
money to buy the whole department store. So and that
I'm not I'm put an umbrella, a blanket statement on
all of them. But you just mentioned it. Whatdy, Johnson's
got a lot of money at what point time did
you remember what Hey Johnson did? You're thinking, well, man,
he understands what players are going through. They're in a
different world. It takes the special guy to have that
kind of money and still be able to put his
(01:00:45):
ego aside and deal with on Bashadi in Baltimore. You
don't even know what he does, do you know? Makes
a lot of it. Look and he stays away from
I mean he right, Look hunt family, we know where
that money came from. But there's they. But you have
to be just as dedicated to that craft as you
did to the craft you made all you and some
(01:01:07):
just happened to be in a good position where their
old man or mom made a lot of money, right,
And that's okay too, But we mistake expertise for money.
That ain't always the case. So Woody Johnson, he signed
off on Aaron Rodgers, and quite frankly, I get his
frustration with Rogers because Rogers has been whether you like
it or not, he goes on, Aaron Rodgers has been
(01:01:29):
just a guy in football this year. He's been part
of the problem. And if I was the Jets with
all the stuff you got to deal with off the field,
I'm not so sure, I wouldn't move on either. Maybe
you want to redo with Sam Darnold because Donald's gonna
be a starter and it ain't gonna be in Minnesota
next to you. Why because JJ McCarthy's gonna get it.
He's gonna go. I'm using him as an example. Aaron
(01:01:51):
Rodgers still a good player. He has not played well
in New York. And once it starts to go downhill
in the city like that, with all the hardcore media
in a very very passionate fan base, you're done the
New York Jets or the New York Jets there, then
I confess he did it franchise and you know what
the craziest thing about but I'm gonna go. Do you
finish your s thought, I'm gonna go take the segment
(01:02:12):
with Dan Patrick. I'll be back in fifteen.
Speaker 4 (01:02:14):
I think the craziest thing with all that being said
is at the end of the day, you can still
have a poor football team or a bad football team,
bad organization, and you're still going to make a profit
as an owner. That is the only thing as an
owner in the NFL. If you have a bad organization,
you are still going to make a profit because if
(01:02:34):
you're an owner, VP, president anywhere in any corporation in America,
and you're a bad leader, your company's probably gonna go bankrupt. Yeah,
but NFL owners. Look at the Dallas Cowboys. They haven't
sniffed a Super Bowl since the nineties and one of
(01:02:55):
the most profitable NFL teams in the world. That's how
it goes, man, it's crazy. All right, let's get to break.
We're gonna talk some Astros baseball. Shawn's got to film
some stuff for Dan Patrick. So let's turn our attention
to the Astros. You say, Kakuchi signs with the Angels,
(01:03:16):
The Ashros gave up a lot and apparently were they
even in the running to sign You say Kokuchi? Will
discuss the next right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
Daisy Sour Cream the new Daisy Dip, French Onion and
Ranch sour cream dips. I love these dips and these
new dips from Daisy Sour Cream are a game changer.
They taste just as good as if they were homemade.
They are made with Daisy sour cream, real herbs and spices,
(01:03:39):
and the new dips from Daisy Sour Cream are made
with ingredients you can find in your kitchen nothing more.
They go great with your favorite chips, your wings, your veggies,
or other foods. Thanksgiving a couple of days away. Add
a couple of these French onion and ranch dips to
your spread for Thanksgiving. If you have some family over
(01:03:59):
some whatever the case is, you're watching some football, ready
for the or waiting for the main dish, and you
want to grub down on some appetizer as well, you
need to add in that French onion and ranch dip
with your favorite chips, wings, vegetables, and so much more.
It's all right there at your local grocery store. It's
Daisy Dip by Daisy sour Cream. The Shawn Salisbury Show
(01:04:21):
continued her Curve Street coming up at eight o'clock, so
in about thirty minutes from now, you're not gonna want
to miss that interview. You know some things that got
lost in the shuffle yesterday as we talked Heavy Texans.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
You say, Kakuchi.
Speaker 4 (01:04:38):
Signs a three year, sixty three million dollar deal with
the Angels. He's gonna stay in the division, headed out
to the Angels. And if you remember, you say Kakushi
was phenomenal for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
After being traded here. Yeah, he was really, really good.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
Posted a two point seventy ra a point nine to
three whip, seventy six strikeouts, and sixty innings. I think
every start except for one the team won, and they
made some changes to his pitch selection. He was throwing
thirty eight point nine percent sliders compared to just thirty
(01:05:23):
six point six forcing fastballs, which helped increase the effective
effectiveness for both pitches. And uh yeah, the Astros did
not re sign him. So when you look at all
of that, you gotta remember that Kakuchi was traded for
(01:05:43):
right hander Jake Bloss, outfitder Joey Loperfdo, and infield prospect
Will Wagner, three top prospects for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
Very good prospects, obviously.
Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
People fell in love with Joey Loperfido hitting a bunch
of bombs down in Triple A, playing outfield, play some
first base. A lot of people wanted Joey Loperfido brought
up to play first base because Jose Brayu couldn't hit
water if you fell out of a boat. He did
get brought up, played some decent baseball at the big
league level. Will Wagner for me is the one that
hurts the most. That kid was really good in spring training,
(01:06:19):
really good, uh in Triple A. I wouldn't be surprised
if at some point he could have come up and
played some infield for the Astros. They brought up Joey Liperfido.
So a lot of people were upset for the rental. Now,
when all this happened, Sean and I were both in
(01:06:40):
the agreeance of if it helps them.
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Get to a World Series and it's a success.
Speaker 4 (01:06:49):
Because low Berfido, will Wagner Jake Bloss at the time,
we're not gonna do anything that was gonna make them
win a World Series. You needed pitching, so they make it.
There was also a concern that, oh, okay, it's a rental.
Well if you resign him, then that's okay. Well, now
you traded three of those guys and you don't re
sign him. And apparently there's one report out that they
(01:07:11):
were in the running.
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
Obviously they did not. There was no numbers.
Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
Shown, so I don't know what they offered him, but
at the end of the day, they didn't. They didn't
resign him.
Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
That's tough. That's a tough pill. To swallow.
Speaker 4 (01:07:23):
You give up three really good prospects for you, say Kakuchi,
who did not even pitch in the playoffs. That's a
really tough pill to swallow. Obviously you had the what
Wildcard series is only a three game Yeah, three game set,
and you lost the first two. So he didn't even
(01:07:45):
get a chance to pitch. That sucks. You got him
so he could pitch in the playoffs. It's a damn
shame that he did not get to pitch. So that
also shows me that the Astros probably feel really good
about their rotation and really good about some pictures that
are coming back.
Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
But I would have made him a priority.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
I know your priority is Alex Bregman, who apparently wants
two hundred million dollars, which is fine. It'll probably be
a seven year deal from somebody that's not the Astros.
If you want my honest opinion, I think he's gonna
go to Boston. There was a report yesterday too that they
were the Boston Red Sox were considering moving to Rafael
Divers the first base. So what does that show me?
(01:08:27):
That shows me that they're trying to go get Alex
Bregman to play third base.
Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
If Yeah, that's what it sounds like.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
So Bregman's your top priority. And then you say Kokuchi
would have been right there, one A, one B yep
for me at least. But Kakushi get good for you man,
twenty one million year. That ain't bad. It's like what
DoD Sean always say, you never go broke taking a profit.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
That is correct. I don't know, man, I would have
tried to get him. You do have.
Speaker 4 (01:09:01):
You know, you've got a lot of arms coming back.
You got some guys that are coming back from injury.
Lance mccullors Junior should be healthy and ready to go.
I saw a video of him throwing yesterday. Luis Garcia
should be one hundred percent healthy. What are they gonna
do with Justin Verlaine? Are they gonna try to bring
him back on like a one or two year deal?
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
Who knows.
Speaker 4 (01:09:22):
I'm ready to move on from Justin verlan Or. That's
just my opinion you got fromber in his last year
before he hits free agency. We'll see what that looks like. Obviously,
Kyle Tucker is going into his last year before free agency.
Hunter Brown was a absolute dude. Spencer Arighetti pitched well
(01:09:45):
Renewe Blanco. We saw him.
Speaker 16 (01:09:49):
Rotation is kind of decent. Yeah it is, you know,
it's God. Yeah, No, it would have been that would
have put us over the top. It would have been
nice to have him, Yes, but I think just triply.
I think just just for the simple fact of everything
you gave up, you had to you had yeah, probably
sign him.
Speaker 4 (01:10:04):
Yeah, that's the whole point of this is you gave
up three top prospects in your organization and they don't
have a lot of those.
Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
They don't have a lot of top prospects. And they
were good too. I like Joey.
Speaker 16 (01:10:16):
I like Joey and Will.
Speaker 4 (01:10:18):
Yeah, those two were out of the three. Will Wagner,
then Joey Lowpafito and then Jake Boss Shake Boss to
me is.
Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Just a guy.
Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
Yeah, throw piece but in there. Yeah, it is what
it is. So you also excuse me. Then you got
you know, uh or Katie no longer around.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
You have.
Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
Christi Navier coming back from Tommy John. He probably won't
be a factor until August, if anything, so you're gonna
have to rely on fromber Hunter, Brown, Spencer, Righedty, Renelle Blanco,
Lance Colors Junior.
Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
There's your five right there. That's not too bad. Honestly,
that's not well.
Speaker 4 (01:10:53):
That's if oh and Luis Garcia excuse me, that's if Louis.
That's if lancemer Colors Junior can stay healthy because he
is hurt every single year, and that's that's problem. Seven
seven ninety is number to join Rob. What's happening?
Speaker 14 (01:11:11):
Wow, that was the shortest hold. I think that was
like ten seconds on whole time.
Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
That's got to be a record probably.
Speaker 11 (01:11:19):
Well, you know, the Kakuchie thing.
Speaker 14 (01:11:21):
On top of everything you just said, which you know
I hadn't even looked at it, and all the ways
you just mentioned it hurt. I wasn't happy about them
letting them walk either, But on top of that, you
let him go to you know, it kind of Upseynty
when a top bitter is a division rival. The guy
established himself as quite frankly in the second half of
the season are number one, if not number two pitcher
(01:11:43):
when it came down to get results. And now you've
got to spend the next three years facing that same guy.
I just, I mean, I don't understand how you don't
pony up a little bit more for the sake of
just letting that not happen. And if the astros are saying, well,
we're confident guys we've got back, that's even to me,
that's even more baffling. Like I get it, you've got
(01:12:04):
the guys that you've got coming back. But out of
the guys you've got coming back, I only see two
of them that are actually what I would consider reliable
starters in Frambur and Hunter, because you can't count on JB.
He obviously showed regression last year both in his performance
and injury. Has been a history of the last two
years now. And I mean mccullors, Yeah, never hear his
(01:12:26):
name again. You know, Luis Garcia, We're not sure what
we're gonna get out of him. Renel Blanco out of
the top, out of all the guys we mentioned, you know,
Renel Blanco would be the number three guy that I
would actually consider as a rotation guy. That's that's and
hopefully Christian Havier comes back, but injuries have been a
problem for him the last couple of years too, or
(01:12:46):
regression in performance. So they're the major wild card on
exactly what the rotation is. I don't know if they've
got if Dana and Jim have got something else up
up their sleeve that they're eyeing as far as moving
somebody else in to help back that up. But the
only thing that I can make sense out of this
is that hopefully you guys are right and they're gonna
poney up and keep Bregman, maybe try and swing something
(01:13:09):
for both Bregman and Tucker next year. But I don't know, guys,
I think this is And you guys know, I've always
been a pretty positive guy as far as them making
their moves. I was with y'all. I was a major
support of a Kakuchi deal. But yeah, I'm right there
with y'all. Man. This this hurts, and it kind of
puts a big, big question mark on what's gonna happen
next season.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
Guys.
Speaker 9 (01:13:28):
That's all I got.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
Appreciate you, Rob, Yeah, for him to stay in the
division sucks because you're gonna have to face him. Yeah,
numerous yeeah. So he's gonna stay in the division. And
then also you still have to address the first base position.
Who's gonna play first base? And there's so many different
(01:13:49):
ways to look at the pitching staff. Hunter Brown, to
me is your number one, just because based off of
performance last year for this past season. Then is Fromber,
then Renel Blanco, then Spencer Araghetti, is JP Frantz gonna
make it back to the rotation to the big league level.
He was hurt this past year. Lance McCullers junior. Hopefully
(01:14:10):
he can stay healthy because when he is healthy, he's
actually pretty good. Hadn't pitched since twenty twenty two. That's
that'll be three years, so you still you have a
question market center field. There's a lot of there's a
lot of question marks for the Astros and are they
(01:14:31):
gonna be able to resign Alex Bregman me personally said
it earlier. I uh, I don't think it's gonna happen.
I think he's gonna want to too long of a contract,
meaning years wise, and I don't think the Ashwros will
be able to get it done. If they do, that's great,
bring back your staple of your organization and then focus
on what you're gonna do with Fromer Valdez and Kyle
Tucker later on because this is their last year under contract.
(01:14:55):
Both those guys are gonna be free agent after twenty
twenty five, so sucks. Kakushi added to the Angels seven
point three two two five, seven ninety is the number
to join. We will continue to roll along right here
on Sports Talk seven ninety. But before we get to that,

Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Beautiful? Yeah, she's one of the Kingdom. I think, well
she better get a line because there seems to be
a lot more that being said. Yeah, biggie r I P. Yeah.
How long How long is do we keep saying? Rip?
How long they got to be gone in the grave
six feet under? Before you say?
Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
I mean?
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
Is it?
Speaker 5 (01:16:26):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
I mean, how long is It's kind of like New
Year's Eve? Yeah? New Year's Happy New Year? How often
do you keep saying that in the New Year? A
week after two days? You know, people like, hey, happy
New Year. It's January fifteenth. Yeah, it's like two week
down the road and you hadn't seen anybody because they're
just coming back here. Hey year, dude, New Year's Eve
was two weeks ago? Yeah, exactly. So how long do
(01:16:48):
we I'm trying to put respect on the dead's name? Forever?
You do? Yeah? Forever? So we are? I PM even?
I mean, are you r I ping? Uh? George Washington?
Speaker 5 (01:16:57):
Still?
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:16:58):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
You are? He rest in peace, George? Yeah, can be
still rest in peace? Yeah? Well, once you're rested. Yeah,
and you're dead, aren't you automatically resting? Yeah, but you
can still honor him. So, I mean, so anybody that's died,
it could be one hundred years yeah, r iv P. Yeah, Okay.
I just wondered if if there's a shelf life like
(01:17:20):
Elvis r i P. Yeah, No, he's dead, yeah, r P. Though,
but he's been dead for a long time, right RP.
We're still rip in him because he's a legend. Yeah.
Now I think that like a guy like well, I
don't know who's reading Bill Walton r i P. I'm
giving it my my shelf life before I quld say
an r i P. Or God rest his soul, which
(01:17:41):
is a her soul maybe a year, maybe two, but
by the third year and you're dead. Yeah, I mean,
I mean you've impacted people. It's just like man, now
we go back to talking about him like they're alive
because they make such a legacy and an impact, right
you feel me. I just think there's no shelf life
for r I P. Really yeah, a blink r i P.
(01:18:01):
R IP for Jimmy Hendricks, honest, Jimbo, Yeah, Jimbo, Uh yeah,
I guess man. Maybe you're right. I'm sure there's a
no shelf life for the r I P. I'm sure
there was a woman named major back in the forties.
R I P. No, I doubt it. What do you mean,
I doubt it? You're really down doubt. I know I'm
(01:18:22):
naming a woman major. Yeah, is not It is probably
not good for her self esteem in height in elementary school.
I'd probably stay away from that. Let her be a
major in the military. I'm all for it. Oh, there
you go. Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:18:37):
Real quick, I know we got Kirk Kurbstry coming up
at eight o'clock. TRIPLEY and I were, you know, kicking
around the idea of the Astros not signing. You say Kakuchi.
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
Won't make the playoffs next year, I'm gonna say, louder
Greg min will be gone. Yeap one hundred and sixty
less than one hundred about forty million dollars away, right,
thirty million off two hundred million. What do they offer?
That's almost fifty million dollars. He gone, Kakuchi gone, A
(01:19:11):
couple of pigs missed the playoffs next year, then Tucker
leaves after his season. I think I'm kidding people shot say,
I'm kidding, but Cokuchi's big and when it's forty some
(01:19:31):
million dollars away, according to the reports that that was
the offer to Bregman, You ain't that. There ain't no
hometown discount. If I'm kidding about them not, They're still
the best team in the division in my mind, even
if Bregman's not here. Yeah, I think they are. I
don't know if they're a World Series is gonna win
the World Series or not. I'm kidding just to get
people riled up, because I mean I'm actually in a
very in your grill mood today. Are you all big time?
(01:19:54):
I just taped that one with Dan and I said,
we went on the Texans and I you know, when
you when you're left tackle was playing like a seventh
grader when it comes to that. It's not just him,
but all over the place. They haven't handled success this
year if you know that from last year they handled
failure a three win team. But I digress the tech,
I mean the Astros losing Kakuchi is you're gonna I
think you're gonna find is A is going to be
(01:20:16):
bigger than we're even talking about.
Speaker 4 (01:20:18):
Yeah, an Hey's staying in the division and you gave
up three of your top prospects for him and even
gets a bitch in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:20:23):
Well, you went in known it was a rental, and
he did his job, and unfortunately the team didn't get
to do theirs in the first two games of the
playoffs and was swept yep. But the pregnant thing. If
the reports are true and they're that far off, dude,
you can't do you think they're making up forty million bucks. No,
and somebody's going to pay him close to two hundred
million you know who. We're about eighty five buck ninety,
(01:20:44):
but probably the Red Sox necessarily, since they're going to ask.
They've already talked to. He's talked about being able to
move to second base, which it won't be. You'll play
third base, Endeavors will play first. Yeah, and we introspects
for Red Sox and makes that American League East even
more difficult if he ends up there.
Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
I said this, I believe it was on a stakeout
question last year because you're a Red Sox guy that
Alex Bregman will end up in Boston. He's gonna love
hitting off that Green monster. Yeah, he'll tatter that leftfield
monster him Endeavor's at the corners. They have the money
to afford him. Alex Corr is the manager. Where did
Alex Corr used to be? He used to be here?
Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
It feels like Detroit or just a Detroit or Boston
for comfort level as well too, right understanding, who doesn't
like to feel good about the guy that knows you? Right,
you want somebody familiarity, But I'll tell you what what
familiarity blows out the windows?
Speaker 4 (01:21:38):
Money plus and you also know that the owner here,
Jim Crane, done so many good things. He doesn't give
out contracts past six years.
Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
If you're Bregman and they offer you one to eighty
five and somebody offers you two million, I mean two
hundred million, you're still leaving. That's fifteen million dollars, are
you over the course of six years he's still leaving. Yes,
that's a lot of money. I I think that. I mean,
you're gonna have to go above that fifteen million. That's
a lot I did. I'm not staying for that. Yeah,
because both those teams he goes to, if it was
(01:22:08):
Detroit or Boston, have a chance to win. Right. He
makes the wherever he goes they're better. Now, if you
told me you went to the Marlins for eight million
more over six years, I'd be like, come on, man, yeah,
where you know, we don't disappear, right, But if it's
a buck fifty six and honestly, somebody's gonna get two
hundred plus for him, you might as well start to
find yourself a third basement because he won't be here.
Speaker 5 (01:22:30):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
By the way, tombstones have rip on them, by the way, Yeah,
so there, so that covers you. You need to keep
saying it.
Speaker 4 (01:22:36):
No, Michael Michael Schwab tweeted us said two stones have
RP on them.
Speaker 1 (01:22:39):
Makes a good point. I don't think my mother and
father's tombstone have rip. My parents were cremated, so we
don't have Yeah, we have dates and there good saying that,
you know, just each other. Yes, they are, they don't
have RP on them. I don't think we have rip.
I'm not sure. Maybe I'm wrong. I got pictures of
the the TEMs. Yeah, the plate. Yeah, I don't know
(01:23:01):
if they do or not. Is that that's not a
requirement for it's kind of what you want, right, you're
paying for it. I don't think we have r I P.
We have something that describes who they are quote with
the dates. So yeah, I don't think, but it makes sense.
So I guess you can keep saying, you know what,
if it makes you feel good, you r I P
until the cows come home. So right, cows don't come
home though, then you if you if the cows don't
(01:23:24):
come home that night, you better get your herd dog.
Speaker 4 (01:23:27):
Yeah, true, good point, because then you know aliens might
be out there could be and they are around.
Speaker 1 (01:23:31):
You don't want to alien have I I call him MiB. Yeah,
another lack of good MiB. And speaking of our next guest,
we're probably going to keep them a little longer, so
be prepared. We're going to probably blow through a break
a few minutes. We get Kirk kurbs Street. Now, yeah
we do.
Speaker 4 (01:23:46):
Kirkurbstreet going to join the show next on Sports Talk
seven ninety k Houston HD Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:23:52):

Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
Oh two here in Houston, Texas.
Speaker 4 (01:24:29):
Welcome into the Shawn Salisbury Shaw on Sports Talk seven
ninety Seawan Salisbury, Brian li Lima, Manuel Elmore. Now we're
gonna welcome in NFL and college football analysts.
Speaker 1 (01:24:37):
The best to do it. Kirk Kurvestreet, no doubt. He
also does NFL on Prime on Thursdays. You know College
Game Day. Man, we're getting old. He's been doing this
like fifty years now, College Game Day and the primetime
game with this guy Chris Fowler, who does a phenomenal
job as well. Kirk Kirkstreet joins us. Kirk Happy, thanks gave.
Good to have you all, brother, Missian. I know you'll
get a chance to get the same with you brother
(01:24:59):
in It's always good to have you in. This Thanksgiving
will be void of your best friend. And I'm going
to start there because we talk a lot of football
over the years, brother, and we dive in and have
a great time. But I was emotional for you. I
owned three dogs and love them or they own me
is the way I should put it. And that friendship
and I don't want to tie into your emotion, but
(01:25:20):
I don't know if you ever get over that. Brother,
How are you doing, how's your family holding up? And
thank you for bringing Ben into our lives. Man, it
mattered to me, and I know it mattered to a
whole bunch of people across the country.
Speaker 5 (01:25:32):
Yeah, I appreciate it. Yeah, it was obviously a tough
few weeks there. You know, I've had dogs since going
back to as long as I can remember, really, but
I've had Golden Retrievers, which for me are such a
special breed because of the relationship that you have with them.
But I've had Adam since I was probably fifteen, and
(01:25:53):
you know, I've had to put unfortunately dogs down over
the years, and it's always a tough thing to do.
But man, I don't know, you know, you never really
can predict emotions. But it was just it was just
a relationship. I think it was maybe the time of
my life. You know, four sons and three of them
had moved on to college, and you know, he he
(01:26:15):
was just with me everywhere. You know, I took him,
you know, I started to take him on the road
with me, and he's with me at home. I mean,
I'm a guy. I don't know how you are with
your dogs. I mean I take my dogs for a
walk by myself probably five six times a week, you know,
and so anyway, it's just a really really special bond.
And it was it was just really hard to like no,
and when I when I led to that the feature
(01:26:39):
that they had done that I had, I had to
track I was, I was totally fine. I mean, threw
it to me and I couldn't breathe, you know. And
and like I said, when you grieve, whether it's a
family member or a friend or in this case, my
you know, my dog. What I've learned, what I was
(01:26:59):
remind kinded of, is it kind of comes in waves.
You know, one second you're totally fine and talking like
we are right now, and then the next second, bang,
it just hits you like a ton of bricks. And
you know, unfortunately for me that it was on national
TV when when I had one of those moments. But
I think a lot of people can relate, and you know,
I've heard from so many people. What was interesting about
(01:27:22):
Ben is he knocked down every wall, you know, in
this era of especially in the middle of the election
and politics and the race and religion and just so
much to divide the country. He was one thing that
just seemed to be one hundred percent united, you know,
and I think a lot of I mean, you cannot
(01:27:42):
even imagine the people that I heard from and forgetting
forgetting football and forgetting sports. I had Texas twice this
year for college game Day, once in ann Arbor and another
time when when Georgia played him in Austin, and governor
at it, you know, he was kind of like, hey,
good to see you, but where's Ben. He didn't want anything,
(01:28:07):
and he saw him and hugged him. And and then
when we were in Austin for the major showdown with Georgia,
the governor from Georgia was there and both their wives
were on the field and they were just all over Ben.
And it was the most fascinating thing. Matthew McConaughey, Joe Rogan,
I mean, it was the most fascinating thing that that
people were just drawn to him. I think it was
(01:28:28):
maybe a spirit, And yeah, I think that's why at
the end when you had to let go, it was
it was tough.
Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
Yeah, and you don't have First off, you brought him
into our lives. We almost felt like we knew him,
like Okay, there's Kirk. Thanks, we see you for the
last fifty years. I want to see that dog. And
and as I joke, and you don't ever have to
apologize for that scene on the set because that that
that told that this was not scripted in the you
are I mean, it was done right and the feature
was phenomenally gave us all choked up. And if you
(01:28:58):
want to understand if people get it, I got the
three dogs, like I said, And to understand, when you're
taking him on the road, do you realize I haven't
since I've had these three dogs, I have not taking
a taking a plane ride vacation since they go. I
travel across the country in vehicle. I honor. That's the
honestat true. They all three go and I will not
get because I don't want to leave him behind because
I don't trust anybody to take care of them the
(01:29:19):
way I do and the way I just won't do it.
So that's that's why ye and I can't fathom right
now having three kids and then this I really got six.
I can't fathom not having them. So thank you for
bringing men in all. Yeah, I got a about a
two year old rescue. I got a hundred pound bully
(01:29:42):
that's going to be four in December. And then I
got a five year old. It's a mix of a
of a Maltese and Shitsu, so it's a combination. My
one hundred pound bully is is just a big baby,
but tough as one hundred one hundred ye old leather
when he needs to be. So he's a good protector.
But we appreciate you un that out, tip, ain't. I'll
(01:30:03):
tell you who is the rescue is a it's a guard.
It's the mix of and it's a bunch of them,
but it is it's like a herd dog, a dog.
And he'll heard my hundred pound bully. He she when
I say he, she has to be out in front.
She herds it. It's like and she's like a hunting dog.
She makes this different noise with her nose, like like
(01:30:25):
she's a pig sniff that's doing sniffing everything out and
I'm telling you it's and she's got black lab mixed in.
So yeah, and one hundred pound bully, who's the only
male in the group, sits back and says, okay, I'll
let you have this one for now, so and cleans
it up. So we get it, man, and we appreciate
you sharing being with us, and we're looking forward to
seeing more Peter as well. All Right, college game Day,
(01:30:47):
and I'm gonna get into your football analysis, but College
game Day, tell me how different it is? I mean,
and and the dynamic now with the you know Nick
is so good you I mean, you guys are doing
and you know having But as we start to see
you know, Lee Corso's role and who I love and
I know you do too, because nobody takes care of him,
and I loved how he took care of you during
(01:31:09):
that time I've been on that feature. The different dynamic
of College Game Day, how's it feel now?
Speaker 5 (01:31:16):
I'm personally having the time in my life. I mean,
you know, studio television probably better than most because of
all your experience in doing it. And I may have
told you this about three years ago when I started
to do Amazon Thursday Night. Obviously it's a lot, you know,
the prep, the execution on air. I've learned to manage that.
(01:31:38):
But what's just unpredictable is you know, right now I'm
prepping for Raiders Chiefs on Friday, Black Friday this week
and basically from Sunday through Saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:31:50):
Night at midnight.
Speaker 5 (01:31:51):
I'm in full on ten out of ten prep mode.
And three years ago I thought, Man, I don't know,
I really want to try to keep managing all three
of these. I don't know which one I would take
out if I didn't. Would I take away Game Day?
Would I take away the Saturday night game? And I
just love calling the games with Faler on Saturday. And
now we have the SEC, we get all these great
(01:32:12):
games and do all the postseason and the playoffs and
all that. I didn't want to take that away, and
I don't obviously I just started Amazon. I didn't want
to take that away. So I thought, if I have
to take something away as much as I don't want to,
maybe I have to consider taking away college game Day.
And then and then Pat started to come on the
show a few years ago, and then it was such
(01:32:32):
a game changer for me because I really enjoy his energy,
not just on the air, but really more importantly for
me personally off the air. What he's done for me,
the relationship, the friendship that I had with him was
a game changer. And so when that came on, that
energy came on Game Day, I was like, man, I
could never lead game day. And then Coach Saban came
(01:32:53):
around this year to go along with all that, and
it's just it's a changing of a of a guard.
You know, we had Chris Fallor and Lee Corso and
myself forever, and then Chris left, and then Reefs came on,
does a great job, and Desmond obviously has been there
for a long time. Just the dynamic in the chemistry,
which is so important in studio shows, has changed quite
(01:33:15):
a bit. But man, Coach Saban, you would not believe
how he acts and meetings, how he acts. Every time
he and I do a weekly kind of like a
film session thing, and when we get done, every time
he's he's undefeated and asking me this. Every time we
get done, you know, all high five, and it's he
he's like a rookie, you know, He'll and he turns
(01:33:37):
to me and he's like, was that okay? It was?
You know? Did you did you? Did we do okay? There?
And I was and I'm like, yeah, man, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah. So here's the greatest coach of all time.
Wants to be coached, wants to know what's good, wants
to know what is he doing where it can be better,
and he genuinely feels.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
That way is the greatest coach of all time. Right,
He's still he's still learning, right.
Speaker 5 (01:34:00):
Yeah, Yeah, he's not like, Hey, guys, I'm Nick Saban. Everybody,
get out of the way. I'm the smartest guy in
the world. Like, just get out of the way and
listen to me. He's the total opposite of that. He listens.
If you have a point analytically to make, he embraces it.
He just he's been fascinating. I've known him forever, so
(01:34:21):
I think there's a kind of a building chemistry with
he and I and I think just everybody on the set.
I think he feels comfortable. I think he feels at ease,
and I think it's really bringing out a side of
him than a lot of people prior to this who
didn't know him. They just saw him in front of
the podium with a coke on his podium and you
know it was his hands going and yelling like Bill
(01:34:42):
does Belichick it you know, used to do on the
Cincinnati and you're seeing a different side of him. I
think a lot of people have been just blown away
by coach Saban and seeing the human side in him,
and man, it's the show's never been hotter, it's never
been better. The twelve team playoff, the debate, and tonight
(01:35:03):
the rankings come out. I mean, it's as much as
is going wrong off the field and the offseason with
this sport man in the fall from September to the
bowl games. There's a lot to enjoy. And I think
this twelve team playoff, I don't know how you feel
about it, but it really has opened up cool so
much more access and so many more teams and so
(01:35:23):
many more matchups all the way to this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:35:26):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:35:27):
I mean teams like Arizona State, they would never even
be thought of forever, and now here they are on
the brink that got Arizona and if they win and
in the Big twelve Championship, and Kenny Dillingham, as young
as he is, has got a team that maybe gets
a buy into the playoff, I mean, who knows. I
mean that's what's cool about this. So yeah, we're having
(01:35:47):
a great time and I'm enjoying this twelve team playoff
and all the debate that goes along with it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:52):
Absolutely, Kirk curb Street, you know, in college game Day
in the primetime game on College Football with Chris Faller,
also Amazon Prime with al Michael's doing NFL and doing
it all and doing it well and grateful to have
him on and share his time with us. Kirk. Is
there any great team in college football? I mean, if
I say can eight teams win it? Do you really
believe that? Or is there four? Is there two? Is
(01:36:14):
there a great team in college football?
Speaker 5 (01:36:16):
Usually, as you know, and usually it's like, well, yeah,
Alabama or Georgia, I mean, and it's like them and
everybody else. I mean, I think Oregon's a great team.
We'll find out next week when they Ohio State and
Oregon play in Indianapolis. They already played once out in Eugene,
which is a massive advantage in Austin Stadium, So in
(01:36:38):
a neutral site if anything, probably will favor Ohio State
as far as the crowd, I think those two teams
feel like there may be the best two. But if
Texas plays their best game, could they play with those two?
I think they can. If Georgia puts it all together
and Carson Beck plays the way he did a couple
(01:36:58):
of weeks ago when he just kind of was clicking
and looking like okay, that's the guy that we expected
to play this year. Boy there, you know, Kirby's got
a good team that's capable. So I don't know if
there's that one team that really separates themselves. I think
we've got to. I think we've got maybe three or
(01:37:19):
four when they play their best. And that's the problem.
We haven't seen Texas play their best every week. We
haven't seen Georgia play their best every week, you know.
And so I would give I guess Oregon Ohio State
the nod. But I think I wouldn't be shocked if
somebody started clicking and playing up to their ability consistently,
(01:37:40):
can go right in there and play with them and
beat them.
Speaker 1 (01:37:43):
Does Indiana deserve if they finish this up with one loss?
Would you put a three loss SEC team in regardless
of who you think is the best or does Indiana
deserve to be in?
Speaker 5 (01:37:57):
I think a couple of things. All the chaos of
last weekend the winners in that. I think we'll find
out tonight when the rankings come out. I think Clemson,
who's almost forgotten right in South and South Carolina, who
does have three losses. But if you're if you're going
to start dipping into the potential of a three loss team.
(01:38:17):
South Carolina has been playing as well as anybody in
the country the last four or five weeks, and they
get Clemson this weekend. It's a noon game Eastern Whoever
wins that game, I think is going to get into
the playoffs. As in a large pick. I don't think
that takes Indiana out. I think Indiana was a beneficiary
(01:38:40):
with Ole Miss losing and Alabama losing. I think if
those two teams won, it would have been a real,
real debate about Indiana's one big game they play. You know,
they had seventy yard I'm standing on the field. Game
day was in Columbus, YEP. And I defly to Norman
to call the Alabama Oklahoma game. Well, you know, we
were like, you know, let's stay for the first half
(01:39:01):
and let's watch this Indiana team from the field. They
get the ball, We're standing right there watching them. They
go seventy yards. Their quarterback look like a god, he's.
Speaker 6 (01:39:11):
A big guy.
Speaker 5 (01:39:12):
I was. I watched that opening drive. They go seventy
yards and they put a touchdown on the board. I said, hey,
the debate is over. I don't want to hear they
may win this game. They may lose this game. They
are a playoff team. That was the opening drive, sean yep,
that was seventy. That was seventy yards in that opening drive.
They had one hundred and fifty three the rest of
the game, and they had I don't know how many
(01:39:33):
in that garbage drive near the end. So seventy on
the opening drive you get eighty three the rest of
the game. So after that, I was like, ye, they
should be in there not and then Ole Myth loses
in Alabama loses. I don't think Indiana. They beat Perdue,
(01:39:54):
they're eleven and one, and with those other teams losing,
I really don't think there's much of a debate because
I don't know how many teams are left right for
the at large spots. So I think Indiana. I think
they're a lock if they'd beat Purdue and finish eleven
in one.
Speaker 1 (01:40:08):
All right, let me switch the NFL for a second,
and I'm gonna get back to college in a second.
A couple more minutes with Kirk kurb Street here on
Sports Talk seven to ninety sean Salisbury show here in Houston.
Little regression for this team. They're seven and five. I
know you cover all the NFL, CJ. You know, the
hits and the cumulative effective hits and penalties and all
that have taken their toll. Of all the teams you've
(01:40:29):
seen this year, where did the Texans fit in.
Speaker 5 (01:40:34):
I had them just a few weeks ago in New
York against the Jets in a game that I thought,
you know, the Jets aren't having a great year, obviously,
and even with Houston banged up, I thought they would
be okay in a short week and I was wrong,
you know. I mean, that's the NFL. That's that's what
it's about. And I think from that point on up
until that game, you could say, Wow, they need to
(01:40:56):
play better against the better teams on their schedule. You
know what's going on. Loves to Minnesota. I think early
in the year they lost to the Packers on the road,
but it's still I mean, they with the Miko and
the way they played defense, and you know they eventually
they get healthy, CJ is going to get it going.
But when they lost to New York and then that
led to another loss, a close loss against Detroit, I
(01:41:21):
just thought, you know, it's it's again. This is a
team that at any moment can right the ship. They
beat Dallas and then last week another reminder that that's
why it's the NFL and they play the games. I
mean Tennessee. You almost feel like they've they've kind of
canceled the season and are already looking forward to the draft,
and they end up pulling off a big upset. So
(01:41:42):
I wouldn't I know, It's it's easy for me. I'm
not living in Houston and I'm not a diehard fan.
I think they got to obviously get healthy. You wonder
how much CJ is such a guy that keeps it
tight lip. I don't know how much he's talked publicly.
I know when I saw him in New York, I
was standing on the field with him pregame I have
you holding up? And he's like, man, I'm beat up.
(01:42:03):
I don't want to talk about it. So he's not
going to ever make excuses. But they just they got
to get however they can. They got to find a
way to get the pieces around him going. I haven't
heard the latest with the health of the receivers. Boy
Joe Mixon has been incredible surprise, you know, coming over
to Cincinnati to take some of the heat off of him,
(01:42:26):
if they can just get healthy. I still think that
they are probably going to win their division. It's really
going to come down to how healthy they can get
and never underestimate Dimiico Ryans and a Demiico Ryan's coach team.
So you win your division, you get healthy, and you
try to get back on track and play up to
(01:42:49):
the potential that they have.
Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
Hey, real quick before I last two questions, real quick,
how do you if you're talking to coaches or you're
sitting in a meeting room and you've got a Pro
Bowl player but has sixteens you know, penalties and twelve
or so a pre snap? Is that a lot like
the Tunsil, who's a hell of a player when the
ball snap? But how often do you have to deal
with and how how do you fix a guy who's
(01:43:11):
got that many illegal procedure penalies? What do you say
you sit him down? How do you handle the undisciplined
part of a football team or the lack of focus
which has been a problem for him and this team
this year.
Speaker 5 (01:43:25):
Man, that's because he's such a veteran. I think if
there's a guy that can handle that, you would think, uh,
you know, Jamiico Ryans to me even before he went
to Houston, of all the guys I sit around and
talk with and you get one on one time with
these coordinators, always was blown away by him and his energy.
(01:43:48):
I don't I wouldn't look at him as a guy
because wouldn't you categorize him as a players coach?
Speaker 1 (01:43:53):
Oh? Absolutely, absolutely, in a good in a good way,
not the lazy. Absolutely. Yes.
Speaker 5 (01:43:59):
I think if there's anybody that can put his arm
around a guy and talk to him about the little
things are hurting us and we got to get this
thing right, I'd like to bet on him saying he's
a guy that can do that. And these players, it's
almost like when their relationship with the Mika Ryans is
they don't want to let him down, you know, like
(01:44:21):
some coaches you fear right and it's like, oh my god,
you know, I'm terrified of this guy. Other guys they
coach in a way where it's like letting your dad
down or I don't know, a good friend down. I
feel like that's who he is and how much respect
they have for him. So, you know, the lack of
discipline is a major major thing. You got to get
(01:44:44):
that part of it fixed or no matter how many
exos and things you want to talk about, if you're
beating yourself, it's hard to beat the opponent. So that's
something they're going to have to clean up. And you
know how much pride they have in themselves and how
much they care. Ultimately, you'll find out in the you know,
in the next next three or four weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
If the Heisman Trophy is voted on today, who wins it?
Speaker 5 (01:45:08):
Travis Hunter.
Speaker 1 (01:45:09):
He's on college football right yeah, And I think.
Speaker 5 (01:45:13):
What he's doing we've never seen. I mean we've seen
obviously Charles Woodson, who ended up winning the Heisman. He
was a corner who occasionally played receiver, maybe two or
three snaps. You know, he'd returned punts. That's what probably
won him the Heisman against Ohio State. This kid plays
almost every snap and he's and he's he's the best
(01:45:36):
receiver on the field, and he's the best corner on
the field. And he's not going to have numbers. It's
going to make you go, oh my god.
Speaker 6 (01:45:44):
Look, you almost have.
Speaker 5 (01:45:45):
To watch him weekend and week out to appreciate what
he does and how many snaps he plays. But I
think that's an anomaly in the sport, and so I'd
be shocked. Jenny's have Gens having a big year at
Boise State, a little bit off the radar. I just
think I just don't know if there's usually there's that
(01:46:06):
quarterback on the number one ranked team that's having a
big years, I just don't I just don't feel that
that's the case with Dylan Gabriel at Oregon. I don't know.
I think it's I think it's Travis Hunter and everybody else.
But I guess we'll find out here in a few weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:46:22):
Not a quarterback award this year. Couldn't agree more if
he doesn't win it. The kid from Boys Day Gent,
he's been fabulous. As you said, my man, you know
I've kept you too long. Thank you for sharing about Ben.
You know that how I feel about you, and I
hope you have a happy Thanksgiving year. There's nobody You're
unparalleled and your work ethic and what you do in
the quality of stuff you bring to us and to
the national audience. And I appreciate you. I love you,
(01:46:44):
my man. Happy Thanksgiving. I look forward to seeing you
this offseason for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:46:48):
Yeah, thanks, thank you. Buy I appreciate it. You know,
I love talking to you anytime. So hopefully we get
into these bowl games and into the playoffs. Let's let's
hook up again and break some of these games. So
I have a great Thanksgiving and great to catch up
with you.
Speaker 1 (01:47:03):
Thanky. Same to you, my man. I appreciate you, my
best of your family. That's the great Kirk kurb Street.
Always good to have him on in his emotion and
he just is so even keeled and he makes his
point without having to rant rave about it. The best
Sports Talk seven ninety. I know him over, but you
know what worth it, We'll deal with it the best
in the business. We'll come back to discuss Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 10 (01:47:23):
Buckle up, the Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:47:28):
It's going to be a hell longer than anybody else.
He is fantastic.
Speaker 4 (01:47:34):
So we'll kind of break down some college football and
NFL talk from what Kirk Kirk said, and we'll get
back to break Let's keep it rolling right here on
seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:47:41):
Hey, guys, country boy's roofing. I always hear from my guy.
Johnny's out there hunting right now, But that doesn't mean
you're not caring for your roof when necessary. Countryboys ROOFINGLLC

country with a K, Boys with a Z, Countryboys roofingllc
dot com. John wanted me, the owner to tell you
Happy Thanksgiving Countryboys Roofing llc dot com and.
Speaker 3 (01:49:20):
We're value for the Shawn Salisbury Show continued, you telling me, Lou.
Speaker 4 (01:49:26):
What do you say the gapman dog Kirkhervesry's fantastic as
the best.
Speaker 1 (01:49:34):
You know, Such a good human being too, Such a
good human being.
Speaker 4 (01:49:39):
I think one of the things that resonates the most
about him losing his dog was, and he said, his
friendship and him being on the road so much and
having his dog with him. For me in twenty twenty
twenty twenty two, it was like a it was the
worst year of my life. But on the flip side
of it, I started here on the show with you.
Speaker 1 (01:50:00):
You wanted to right. He turned around and made the
best year. Right, I'm just kidding. It was like the
Good Lord works in mysterious ways.
Speaker 4 (01:50:07):
Right, March tenth, my mom dies, March twentieth, my dad dies,
and then in May I had to put down my
dog Slider. Slider was the firstborn out of Oprah who
I still have, and she was the first one that
I saw. And my mom actually saved my dog Slider's life.
When Slider came out of Oprah, she was wrapped in
all the umbilical cord and all the stuff and could
not breathe. My mom was a nurse for twenty two years,
(01:50:28):
go straight down to all fours, yanks all the stuff
off of the dog, off the little puppy, and breathes
the first breath into my dog Slider. So I knew
that she was special. So that's why I kept her.
Putting her down, she was twelve years old. Putting her down,
it hurt worse than losing my parents. People may say
that I'm effing crazy for saying that. In that moment
(01:50:48):
and the way that I felt the next.
Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
Day, it hurts awful worse because I couldn't do anything well.
He said, he hyperventially couldn't breathe when on the set,
and you obviously probably went through the same thing. Awful
it was in the day. Man. Yeah, I I need
my dogs to live like I'm living till I'm one
hundred and two. I need them to live that long. Yea,
I don't know if that's possible. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:51:10):
And my my dog, Dodger's been through some some health issues.
He's thirteen, you know, he's been through some stuff over
the last couple of weeks. And I freak out, you know,
when I go into a vet and I'm spending not
so braggering eight hundred dollars on a vet visit.
Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
But it's worth it.
Speaker 4 (01:51:24):
It is worth it because then I walk out of
there and I remember walking out of that same vet
when I had to put my dog's cider down. And
I've told myself, if I can financially afford to continue
to try to get him treatment and to get him
better with whatever he's dealing with, I'm gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
As long as they're not suffering. Yes, the key is
for us, which we want to is not to be
selfish enough to make them suffer for our expense so
we can keep them alive for us as opposed to like,
come on, they got dogs can't get around anymore. Now
that doesn't mean first time they you know, got a hammy.
If you put him you get my point? Yeah right?
And I when her when people say that, wow, it's
a dog. No, no, it's more different. And I when
(01:51:58):
I told him that I was serious about I have
not taking a take off a flight. I was hoping
you would share that way. I have not left on
a trip my dog. I will not go on a
trus I won't. Well, Sean put it in and now
some are comfortable sticking it into at a dog hotel,
and I get it. I'm one of those, the little quirks.
(01:52:19):
I know what Kilo, my one hundred pound bully likes
at night. I know how when he sits there in
front and stairs up, what kind of treaty wants. I
know what he likes to do in the middle when
he likes to move around there and get up and
go on the couch and have spread out when he
gets hot and doesn't want to be covered up. All
those things and and patron and opus all and it's
and there's a trend there. It's all alcohol. Yeah, anyway,
(01:52:40):
but they don't drink, Okay, they're all sober, they don't drink, okay,
but and how they relate with each other, and the
thought of if it's not a family, but like CAF
my sister lived here or anybody but I. And it's
not that I don't I guess it is that I
don't trust somebody to do the little things. And my
dogs stare at the door when I'm not home until
I come home. And I can't imagine. I wouldn't enjoy
(01:53:01):
a ten day vacation away from I just wouldn't. So
I ain't going to And I love Cabbo, but guess what,
unless it's a private flight that somebody wants to put
me on with those three dogs coming, I'm driving everywhere.
I like driving anyway, So I just don't so I
get what he's saying to me. And having three kids
that are my life, I can tell you this. My
three dogs fall into the same category. Yeah, and it's
(01:53:23):
it's a trip. But I can't fathom right now, even
anybody that's and I'm sure people listening have gone through
it recently or I am those dogs. My dogs actually
have changed changed me. Yeah, when I was going through
difficult time, I lost my mom. I'm telling you. It's
almost like God said you got it when it started
with Petron saying your old man needs to you need
(01:53:47):
to level him out a little bit. I know it
sounds weird, but I don't look at it like that.
I can't. And I'm going to tell you something, dude.
If you want me to blow a gasket, you want
to get me in trouble. Yeah, let me catch somebody. Man,
and it's and it started to carry over other animal. Dude,
I'll get out of it. I'll stop a busy's for street.
I don't want to pat on the back and pick
(01:54:07):
a turtle up out of them and walk it over
by the to the grass so it doesn't get hit. Yeah,
I was leaving the gym, man. This was like about
a monk and a half ago from me, like last month.
It was after a heavy rainstorm, so maybe a month
or two ago. I'm cruising down the road and literally
I'm leaving the gym, coming out of the parking lot
and there's a turtle. I stopped and found it safe. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:54:28):
I found the closest body of water and put him
in there. It might be a new habitat for him,
but damn, dude. BC alternatives exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:54:34):
And I'm large now when I see like road like
deer or something on the side when you're driving, Like
when I when I saw my son in Austin my
kids and you see him on the side, it's like,
I get a six stummat yeah, man like get away, Yeah,
I get a six stummt So but these dogs, I understand.
And you know what, at no time did it bother
me did And I know and you got to know
(01:54:55):
that Kirk took that dog on the road knowing the
dog was aging. You didn't want to get that call.
He wanted that dog. You want to be with that
dog when that happened. So what a great guest he is,
What a great and think about his grind. Fortunately he
is into three of his four growing up. His other
one's playing high school football, kicking ass and having a blast.
And he's such a good dude and a good family
guy and has such great think about this. He hasn't hardened,
(01:55:18):
and he got hardened after all these years of doing this,
and everybody needs a regent. Look what Saban and McAfee's
done for him. And when he first came onto that set,
he was the young guy doing it. And now Saban,
what a great story. Nick Saban asking him if the
film session was good. Hey, this is the greatest teacher
on the planet when it comes to football, and he
(01:55:39):
wants to know if his session, it's going to be
on college game day, was sufficient. That's called why you're
the best, because it's never quite good enough for Nick Saban. Now,
I hope Nick gets the step back because if I
was with Nick, I say one thing I would have
asked him if Saban was a guest, like I asked
Dick for Meal and other coaches, what's your regret in
your career? And Dick for Meal and I think I've
(01:56:02):
shared this before, Dick for Meals super Bowl champion, said
Sean And he was in studio and he said, Sean,
I don't. I didn't. If I had to do it
over again, I'd enjoy the wins more. He goes, I
didn't enjoy the victories enough. He wins enough. Yeah, But
isn't that why he's one of the best?
Speaker 11 (01:56:19):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:56:20):
And you see Saban walking off the field after a
national title game, a little smile, but he's already thinking
about the next national how he's going to recruit, reciting
and it's a bummer that nil and collective, which can
be used in a good way, but has overwhelmed the
slippery slope we got to get under control. Has taken
what these kids deserve to have Nick Saban coach them.
(01:56:42):
But it's put him in this role where he'll be
one of the great TV guys for a long time
because he is, he's getting he's getting, uh getting more
and more. He's he's really animated. I think Saban's really
what It's just, it's good and new energy is good.
Love cours but it's a good mix now so and Nick.
But yeah, Herbstreet's special man. It's great to have him on. Yeah,
(01:57:03):
there's no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:57:03):
If you missed that interview, it'll be up on our
blog after the show at sports seven ninety dot com
seven one three five seven. I let's get back out
to the phone lines after the break. Feeling a little
sluggish Men's team. I was at men's tea yesterday and you.
Speaker 1 (01:57:15):
Know what, guess what, don't get caught up and on
Thursday when you get that trip to fan you don't worry.
Good good work, Yeah it is, don't worry. You're gonna
You're allowed to take a nap. Don't worry about your sluggishness.
You better be sluggish Thursday at about six o'clock. Okay,
why as you're tired, because well you've made all that
good food. But at Men's Tea Clinic, hey listen, it's November.
(01:57:36):
We know about the prostate awareness and Mental Health Awareness Month,
all those things. When you think about Men's T Clinic
or you think about getting yourself right with low testashonal,

So yeah, Brandon's got it going on. He's ready for turkey.
He said they're having turkey for Thanksgiving. He did. And
I was about to say, Brandon, you have a lot
of great stuff, but that's about his captain obvious. The statement,
(02:05:36):
as you've ever met hot dog? Right? Well, some might argue,
but also I feel like you. You asked him mashed potatoes,
mac and cheese gravy. You could have been like a
hot dog. He would have said. Yes, you could have said,
what did that matter? Right? Okayrdon, Yes, it's not your cheese.
(02:05:59):
But you're just a spect for Lanny Wilson's. It's you know,

uh the phone lines that talk to you guys that
have been on hole. We appreciate you, and we'll start

Speaker 6 (02:07:50):
Hey man, what's going on? How you guys are doing
this morning? Listen? Have a happy Thanksgiving?
Speaker 1 (02:07:55):
Okay, you as well. John. We appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (02:07:58):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:07:58):
What's on your mind? I see you want to talk Alex.
Speaker 6 (02:08:00):
Bregman, Yeah, you know, and Dana brown Man. You know,
Dana brown Man is you know, I'm real curious about him.
You know, all season talking about, oh, be a good team.
We're a good team. Yeah, we're a good team. All right.
We got swept for the first time in years by
Detroit because we couldn't hit. You know, Dana brown went
(02:08:21):
out there and he signed all these outfielders during the
season because he thought it would give the ash thos
of parking and that you know, they they would be
able to hit a little bit. Wish they did. But
at the same time, you still insisted on playing that
that kid out there in center field that's been on
our team for about four four years, that came and
(02:08:43):
get his numbers, came to get past Triple A. You know,
made no sense to me at all. The Astros. They
need to go out there and find them or go
and Triple A find them another good hitter. They got
plenty of pensions. And it's a shame you straighten Kakouchi
and you getn't sign him for that kind of money.
Speaker 1 (02:09:04):
It's just a shame.
Speaker 6 (02:09:05):
Too bad they can't get rid of Christen Hobby. Huh.
One year of wonder ain't been nothing since then? The league,
thene caught up with him. You know that still need
some hitting man. They got pitching, They got very good,
plenty good pitching for next season. Our divisions weak, that's
those can win it. But on my team, you need
(02:09:25):
to find a hitter. And I'll tell you something else
on my team too. If I'm gonna pay a superstar money,
he better be able to hit pretty good and play defense.
If you can't hit pretty good and you can't play defense,
in my book, you not a superstar player. Superstar players
are like Freddy Freeman and Wan Soto, boys like that.
(02:09:45):
Anybody else that can't hit the ball is an average
hitter but a great defensive player. I can't give you
no superstar money. I love you to debt for what
you did, but go play for the Red Sox and
see what happens. Looker, Correll over there, he got bad
because he can't. He's not a great hit. Everybody seemed
to think some of these players is great hitters. But
(02:10:05):
players like that too. By them great hitters. We got
a lot of good memories of players like that. But move,
move to be over there to third base and go
get you a dog, gone hit a man to go
with Avarez and Kyle Tuckle.
Speaker 5 (02:10:20):
Man.
Speaker 6 (02:10:20):
We know Avarez hurt his knee in that Detart series.
Couldn't hit Kyle tuckle He just stayed out too long.
He wasn't he wasn't skilled up, he wasn't ready. We
need to hit him, man. We got pitching man. Hey, y'all,
have a good one.
Speaker 1 (02:10:35):
Thank you, John, Thanks Jean, Happy Thanksgiving to your brother.
Thank you. Let me let me one thing. What John saying.
I want you to think about spring training last year? Yep.
If I were to tell you that this team was
going to be an average hitting team, below average hitting
team this year average, this is savage because certain numbers
they were at the top of the league runners in scoring.
Because all the stuff that we don't want to the
(02:10:57):
season's over, we'll deal with it in springs. Jordan Alvarez,
Kyle Tucker, Jose al Tove, Alex Bregman, Jeremy Pania. Who
am I leaving out? That's the Big six? Yeah, whom
you had pieces, you had uh dubon once in a while. Yeah,
(02:11:19):
you had Jose Bray. You started, it was starting at
first base, and then we saw Victor Carrottini got better.
My point is, can you imagine me telling you that
and then after that me saying, oh, by the way,
with that lineup, there'll be average at the plate this year.
You looked at me like I was on crack and
we're talking about how we need hitting. Isn't it weird?
(02:11:44):
It's very weird awful? But were John saying? But that lineup?
I know paper doesn't swing the bat, But I just
named six guys who have performed at a top levels
has proven he could. The other guys have performed at
an All Star level at some point or time, or
have been at an MVP level. They're Tucker Alvarez, Bregman,
(02:12:08):
al Tuvey, and now paying you who was the MVP
in the ALCS and the World Series two years ago
or three years ago, whatever it's been. Now his rookie
hear three years now? You you look at that and
tell me if I told you that, I said, Oh,
by the way, you know what, we're gonna have to
go get hitting. Yeah, you'd be like, get your ass
out of here. You're you're out of your damn mind.
We need a drug test. You're about to have a
whole at third and first. I already have a hole
(02:12:29):
at first. Yeah. Sorry, that's true. And so you're now
looking for If the report is right and you're forty
million to fifty million off what Bregman's going for, that's
a lot of ground to make up to keep him
in house.
Speaker 4 (02:12:43):
You know, I man, I don't see how you're gonna
make it. I don't think they are. I really don't
seven one three seveney Brian, appreciate you holding.
Speaker 20 (02:12:49):
Good morning, morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 21 (02:12:51):
See I got a baseball slash football take care. What
do you guys think of all the non married Texans?
Pull be O Mark Gray slump buster to get back.
Speaker 5 (02:13:02):
In this thing.
Speaker 1 (02:13:04):
You know you can never go wrong with a good
slump buster. Are we sure they haven't?
Speaker 7 (02:13:09):
Hey?
Speaker 21 (02:13:09):
Right, hey man, here's my holiday play stovetop stuffing massed potatoes,
roasted turkey with the jalapeno butter injection. Throw some cranberry
sauce on the side. And give me some pumpkin cheesecake.
Speaker 1 (02:13:24):
Baby, I love pumpkin cheesecakes is divine. Hey, and by
and Brian, thank you. And I'll tell you this I loved.
I'm telling you a most underrated side dish of any meal,
any holiday. Yeah, still to this day, whether you.
Speaker 19 (02:13:37):
Do it or not.
Speaker 1 (02:13:37):
Because I love homemade stuffing as well, stovetop stuffing is
the most underrated side dish after all these years in
a box, there still is no better if it's done right.
I'm serious. Yeah, I mean, I love me some mac
and cheese, but I ain't doing Kraft mac and cheese
out of the box on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 5 (02:13:54):
No.
Speaker 1 (02:13:54):
But I can tell you this I can live with
and love it. Yeah, stovetop if that's what I'm sir,
and I'm all. I put it this way, I ain't
above that box of stove top stuffing. Underrated, very under
still after all these years. Oh yeah, and cheap, Yeah,
it's very cheap. Like Yeah, there's no doubt. Man. Let's
talk to Ryan. What's up right? O?
Speaker 18 (02:14:16):
Just living on a caffeine and nicotine right now in Texas?
Speaker 9 (02:14:19):
Freaking out?
Speaker 1 (02:14:20):
You knocking down a couple of smoke a little dip,
little grip, which little grip in.
Speaker 18 (02:14:27):
It depends if I'm if it's late night and I'm
at home, I unfortunately.
Speaker 9 (02:14:31):
Got one of those douche flutes. But if I'm at work,
it's probably zen.
Speaker 1 (02:14:35):
Do you ever? Do you ever? How do you hold
your your grit? Is it between your thumb, middle finger
and your index finger? Are you the thumb and index
finger guy?
Speaker 9 (02:14:45):
Oh no, I'm talking about these stupid vape sean.
Speaker 1 (02:14:47):
I know what you're talking went Dow's where you said
that thing. But if you're smoking a cigarette a grit,
so you got a jewel, Yeah, you got one of
them jewels, one of those of those vapor things. Okay,
vape things. But if you are like when you're sitting
around on your patty and you got a cold beer
and and you and you bring up the puffett. Are
you the female version middle finger? Index finger? Or Ryan?
(02:15:08):
Are you the thumb tough guy? And you know the
tough guy index and then they flick it away when
they dot what's your style?
Speaker 9 (02:15:15):
If I'm smoking darts, it stays in my mouth. I
just hold it there like cowboy.
Speaker 1 (02:15:20):
So you're the guy who has the has it in
the upper part of your gum and when you're talking,
it's moving, but it's still there. Yeah. I like your style, man,
I like your style. Nice.
Speaker 18 (02:15:32):
Now the Texans, Texans just freaking me out. Excited for
A and M and U t A. Them is coming
in with no momentum. Man, that Auburn game was fun.
But damn, you know they're you know they're a little
shook right now.
Speaker 1 (02:15:43):
That's gonna be a fun game. I cannot wait.
Speaker 18 (02:15:46):
He was gonna go in there and throw for over
whatever and this ut is gonna come out with a duve.
They're gonna they're gonna win it all.
Speaker 5 (02:15:52):
Book it.
Speaker 18 (02:15:53):
But I wanted to say Thanksgiving is awesome, stove Top's awesome.
Everything you all been talking about is awesome. But Brian,
you just straight up did a Jerry Jones impression talking
about Lanny Wilson. The disrespect is unreal thing.
Speaker 1 (02:16:08):
Go thank you, Ryan, what? Thank you? I thank you.
Speaker 9 (02:16:12):
I can't stand for that. Cool man, But damn that
was you did. Jerry Jones.
Speaker 1 (02:16:16):
You know what you did. You just because I'm under
the you know what you did. Excuses are like buttholes.
Everybody's got one, right, Okay. The studio is a little
cold this morning. You know, say save the excuses. The
bottom line is you did what the Texas done. You
regressed offensively. That's fairs about the lady liston, which is
not like you. I know. That's all right, man, you're
right right.
Speaker 9 (02:16:36):
You want to feel some cold, come work out here,
let's go.
Speaker 1 (02:16:39):
What is it about? Fifty degrees outside? Right now?
Speaker 9 (02:16:43):
It's not too bad right now. The other day was frigid.
But anyways, I digress.
Speaker 11 (02:16:48):
Boys, I'll let y'all go.
Speaker 1 (02:16:49):
You'll have a good one, all right, have your thanksgiving brother,
Thank you appreciate it. Yeah, what are you like if
you got to pretend like you got a grit? How
you do? How you doing? I mean you're used to
having something your mouth, So tell me what I mean.
I'm at, like food or a drink or something. Right,
So when you when you got a grit, you a well,
how do you holding it? Show me real quick and
(02:17:10):
I'll describe how you hold it? No, don't wrap your
whole hand around it. Okay, come on now, I mean,
come on, I hate talking. I hate talk about a
field mouse. I'm talking about a grit. So tell me
what it's like, show me how you hold it. Don't
look at me in the eyes when you're doing that.
So you're a you're a thumb. I mean you're a
(02:17:31):
in the middle of a finger. I'm knock and your
their legs are folded like that, right crossed. I'm more sophisticated.
I'm more I lean more towards Ryan where I'm but
I'm a thumb and index finger hold it and hold
it aside. Yeah, but I hold like that and then
you put it like where you know how the guys
will protect it if they don't wan anybody see it
where it's like covered it almost hitting your palm. Yeah,
(02:17:54):
that that that's my style. And then I did like
then you give it the one flick when you're almost done,
to flick it. That's big time power book. But I'm
also the guy that when you talk you keep it
in while it's lit. Yea, and you're talking and it's
bobbing up and down. You know what it's like to
bob up and down. No, No, I'm talking about when
you're swimming and stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:18:13):
His hand movements right here, what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (02:18:18):
And what's my guy? What's the comedian who like he
dinnis let cont Salisbury show. I wish we had lear
They put so much respect on it. If we had cameras,
it'd be it did, I mean through the roof rating.
But look, Dennis Leary, you know how when he smokes
like puffs real fast. I told you Tom Arnold smoke
a cigar in like three minutes. Really, dude, he can't
(02:18:39):
Tom Tom Arnold doing these days? You know he's still good,
like you're seeing him a spot shows. I'm just telling
you Tom Orlow can smoke a can smoke a cigar
during a commercial break. That's crazy, dude, he does. I
mean he he can smoke a cigar's fast any human. Yeah,
well I've tried to savor it. At the Super Bowl party,
he were out there in the back, I said, Tom,
(02:19:00):
slow the hell down, dog. Yeah, I'm telling you, I'm
telling you it's like you know, the long cigars and dude,
he's puffing away and it just like he does everything
fast and furious.
Speaker 5 (02:19:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:19:10):
But yeah, that grit man you go. And sometimes I'll
look up in the air while I'm doing it. You
know what I'm saying. You're going to do smoke rings?
You want to fire one? Really, I really don't smoke,
but it sounds like you want to fire one up
right now. No, I don't do the cigar. Yeah, I'm
a smoke a cigar when I get home, but I don't.
I don't smoke grits. You don't want to do one
right now?
Speaker 5 (02:19:25):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:19:25):
Do one? What smoke a grit? No? I'm say we
got some marble reds foot around here somewhere. I'm more
of a cool guy. Are you with k a camel crush?

I roll up my jeans at the bottom too. Probably
probably knocked down a Bud Love but heavy, Yeah, probably,
or Miller High Life in a bottle. There you go,
Champagne beer man, Yeah, normally though it would be if
it's if I'm not doing spindle tap, I'm doing a
non spindle tap. Uh. Probably a uh? What's my uh?
(02:20:09):

blue and white ketl School paps, paps blue ribbon, yeah yeah,
peraps old Milwaukee mix that in rein eer beer. Oh,
you might get one of those mill old michelob in
a brown bottle. Old school. Let it be low and brow,
which you love. We talked about knocked down a low
and brow right now.
Speaker 4 (02:20:29):
So there you go, man, seven one, three, five, seven
ninety dis the numbers.
Speaker 1 (02:20:35):
I love when cigarette smoke gets into people's like couches
and stuff, and you walk in there and it smells
like it's somebody been smoking there, like your grandma's been
sitting on the divan smoke. She calls it a devan.
Remember back of the day, and they have the nit
thing on the back huh, you know, the crocheted thing
on the back on the back of the is that
not everybody's grand They had a hard candy that you
gotta get a filling with because you bite it on
the dog on coffee table and they're smoking grits drinking
(02:20:58):
coffee in the morning about five. There you go, my grandmother.
Sounds like that sounds like you're burning a fatty right there. Fatty? Yeah, yeah,
so now you've got something against fat people?
Speaker 6 (02:21:07):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:21:08):
Really? Wow, where I come from? It's corn bread and chicken.
But that's burning a fatty. Oh so you're saying fat
people like corn bread and chicken. Well, yeah, problem, too
much of it? Yeah seven three two two five seven
nineties the number to join. We'll get out to the
phone lines when we'll get back. Uh, Daisy dips. We're
talking about corn bread and chicken. Let's talk about Daisy
dips from Daisy Sour Cream. I was had somebody tweet
(02:21:29):
me earlier big Jay picking up a couple of daisy
dips for his Thanksgiving party. You've got French, onion and
ranch sour cream dips from Daisy Sour Cream.
Speaker 4 (02:21:41):
You can find them out it's your local grocery store.
These dips are phenomenal. Daisy Sour Cream. Uh coming out
with the Daisy dip their game changers. They taste just
as good if they were homemade, and they're made with
Daisy sour cream, real herbs and spices. The new dips
from Daisy Sour Cream are made with ingredients you can
find in your kitchen.
Speaker 1 (02:21:57):
Nothing more so.
Speaker 4 (02:21:58):
If you're having a holiday party, you're having a football
watch party, you got to add this to your game
day spread or your holiday spread. Try it with your
favorite chips, wings, vegetables and other foods. And again they're
right there at your local grocery store. It's the French
onion ranch sour cream dip by Daisy Sour Cream called
the Daisy Dips. You will not be disappointed with these dips.
Pick up a couple, add them to your spread and
(02:22:21):
enjoy the taste of the French onion ranch sour cream dips.
Speaker 1 (02:22:24):
It's Daisy Dips by Daisy Sour Cream.

So, hey guys, First.
Speaker 5 (02:22:45):
Of all, thanks for your tough I'm furs, I'm on
my way back and get his turner every day, so
thank you for that. I appreciate it. Good love you guys.
Speaker 19 (02:22:52):
Also, uh, Sean and rynch and youll know to the Spanish.
In Spanish, the ghosts like this Beliza did that got
to see us Happy Thanksgiving My brothers and Sean Josh,
I'll listen your comments on how Jordan Loup is doing
this year. You think he's progressing and GPG and.
Speaker 5 (02:23:14):
Thanks for taking my call and you'll have a guru.
Speaker 19 (02:23:16):
On a Thursday.
Speaker 5 (02:23:16):
Guys, thanks again, love you.
Speaker 1 (02:23:18):
Thank you, thank you. Feelings Mitual love you too.
Speaker 6 (02:23:21):
Man.
Speaker 1 (02:23:21):
Glad that health wise everything's uh better and happy Thanksgiving.
I think Jordan loves a very special player. I do.
I think he. I think when you take a look
at what the next level of guys who haven't reached
the Josh Allen Mahomes, that Lamar Jackson group, Burrow group,
(02:23:42):
yet the next wave of Jordans that next to Jordan
Love CJ. Stroud, that group's common and they're there there,
there next, and those are the two outside of the
elite players at that position in the league. When we
say elite, I'm talking about the best of the best,
the new group of young and we got some. I
(02:24:02):
think Caleb has a chance to be good bow knicks,
maybe the rookie of the year. Hell, he's making a
late charge. Jayden Daniels, we know that. But the next
level that are hovering just on the outside of the
top six or seven guys Jordan Love and c. J.
Stroud or that that group and they have a real chance.
Think about this, eight and three and in third place,
(02:24:23):
and they can get They proved they went into Dallas
last year, then go on the road and win, and
I know that still sits in his craw winning that game,
but losing in the playoff game the next week, and
he's carried that with him. As Jordan Loved, this is
a really good player. He is the perfect example now,
like Rogers was with Farv of a guy who waited,
had to wait because you had a Hall of Fame
(02:24:45):
quarterback in front of you, and did not pout about it,
prepared himself so when the time did come, we didn't
sit here and say what the hell's this dude been
doing while he was watching Aaron Rodgers play football. Jordan
Love's got a chance to be really, really good. He's
already good chance to be special. He will be the MVP.
Talk like Stroud over the they're the next wave of Yeah,
(02:25:05):
those guys are really good and he's he's done nothing
to disappoint in my opinion.
Speaker 4 (02:25:11):
Yeah, it's crazy, man, They're in third place in their divisions?
Speaker 1 (02:25:14):
Are that's nuts?
Speaker 2 (02:25:16):
Real?
Speaker 1 (02:25:16):
Quick to go to Jay? What's that big Jay?
Speaker 17 (02:25:18):
Good morning, Fellas, Happy Thanksgiving Week? Man, I just want
to talk about the Herbstreet interview. It was a great interview.
Thanks for having him on. And there's one thing I
love more than bbw's and tortas, and that's talking college
football and listening to Herbstreet and and what a life
that guy has, man, and he's flying across the country.
(02:25:38):
I think one comment he made was, Hey, I want
to stay and watch the first half and then I
gotta fly over to uh to call his game. I mean,
that's just phenomenal. And then you know Sean with the
with the dog stories, man it hit it hits home
because you know, I had a dog growing up and
one of the hardest things was putting Old Shasta down.
But when if I thank you guys for that. And man,
(02:26:01):
I could have listened to that for four hours. So
that was just a phenomenal, phenomenal interview and great guests.
Speaker 1 (02:26:06):
Now, one of these times, and thanks Big Jay, Uh,
I can tell you this, one of these times he'll
come on for four hours with us. We will have
him on for the entire show and talking about everything.
He's got a great sense of humor. He's finding still
to this day, he doesn't look at himself as a
celebrity or a star, which is crazy. He still doesn't.
He just yeah, he's great, great human being, no doubt.
Speaker 17 (02:26:30):
And how how professional is he? You know, gone from
the college game to now he's you know, calling the
pro games and he's talking about studying and all that.
Speaker 1 (02:26:38):
And I'm not gonna lie. I mean, that's the life
I want to have. Man.
Speaker 17 (02:26:40):
I love I love football and calling that stuff and
what you did and what you guys do every day.
But he's living a life well, I tell you that is.
Speaker 1 (02:26:48):
And he prepares his ass off in order to do it. Well,
you've got to be You got to not worry about
what other people think, because you're gonna piss somebody off
no matter what you say, right, somebody on the other team.
And you got to prepare hard because he's got to
deliney between the two. He's he's fair and prepared in
every single thing he does, and his presentations off the charts,
(02:27:09):
no doubt. Right.
Speaker 17 (02:27:10):
And you know he mentioned that if Texas plays its
best game, they could win, and of course, me being
a homer, I think if Texas offense plays its best game,
they're gonna be good. I think the Texas defense is elite.
Speaker 5 (02:27:22):
I know we don't want to.
Speaker 17 (02:27:23):
You guys probably got a bunch of callers. We don't
want to get into that too much. But man, I
think that that game this weekend in College Station. It's
gary for Texas fans. I mean, you never know what
you're gonna get. You know, A and M is.
Speaker 11 (02:27:33):
Gonna be fired up.
Speaker 17 (02:27:34):
Texas is probably the more talented team, but you know
it's gonna be hexta game.
Speaker 1 (02:27:38):
And you know what, Big Jay, rivalries can bring out
the worst in you because of the choke factor and
rivalries can I'm talking about both teams and especially one
that hasn't been around for a minute, and rivalries can
bring out the best in you. I hope we see
the best of both and they let it rip this
week and I can't wait to see it. I'm looking for.
Speaker 5 (02:27:54):
Wow.
Speaker 17 (02:27:55):
What's wild to think about is some of these guys,
these kids that are playing in the game are probably
like four or five years old old when this rivalry ended,
So you know, they don't even really.
Speaker 1 (02:28:03):
Know they don't get it. Yes, there's no doubt. Absolutely
appreciate you, Big Jay. Go ahead, Yeah, y'all have to
say you want to throw what I'm.
Speaker 17 (02:28:12):
Gonna throw my tur my plate, man, my plate on Thanksgiving.
It's just the basics, right, Turkey, homemade dressing, not stuffing,
green bean castle, mac and cheese, sweet potato cast roll,
homemade rolls, and throw down on some homemade banana pudding.
And then I'm gonna light me up a capre light
one hundred some slits and let Lanny Whiston use my
face as a saddle. Everything's given voice.
Speaker 1 (02:28:37):
Schlitz won't look yeah and yeah he hold school Schlitz. Yeah,
and he slid on his face is what he said too.
Speaker 4 (02:28:44):
So sounds like a hell of a Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (02:28:48):
Guess he plans on saddling up? I guess man, don't
hate no, not at all.
Speaker 4 (02:28:53):

Let's go. You gotta keep you gotta keep AM radio
in the vehicle.
Speaker 4 (02:30:13):
I couldn't imagine a car without it. No, honestly, it's weird.
Just optics alone. Yeah no, But you don't.
Speaker 1 (02:30:19):

gotta you gotta contact him and make sure they know
how im poor d am.
Speaker 4 (02:30:37):
Radio is on your dial again that number five to
eight eight six text a M standard message rates apply.
Speaker 1 (02:30:42):
What did you ask me before I plugged that in?
Speaker 4 (02:30:45):
What did you say? I said, we've talked about it
and we've got to talk about it again. And you said,
it's who or what?
Speaker 1 (02:30:49):
What are we talking about? These nuts got your ass bit,
Tuggle got his ass shot? Triple? Did that fit?
Speaker 5 (02:30:59):
Which one?
Speaker 1 (02:31:00):
Did you feel? What are you talking about? I didn't
hear what you said? Yeah, exactly no, But you said,
who are weedies to? What did you say? I don't
worry about it dogs? I actually think that was I
think that was a crowbar that didn't work. It did work,
that's why you're speechless. No, but what did you say
to lead to the punchline? How did what? What? What? What? Lesson?
Speaker 6 (02:31:17):
Did you do?
Speaker 17 (02:31:18):
But?
Speaker 1 (02:31:18):
Who? What? Exactly? These nuts? Oh? Well that's weak. No, dude, See,
don't try to get you get the dump button ready
so before I cuss it. And that was so frigging
weak man, got your ass so weak? Well, no, you
know who's not weak, Kenneth, Kenneth, welcome in.
Speaker 5 (02:31:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (02:31:41):
I wanted to Yeah, speaking thing. I just bought him
after the market radio and it didn't have AM in it,
and I thought about that. I think a lot of
this is carrying even on after the market radio as
you buy.
Speaker 1 (02:31:56):
Well, I ain't buying a vehicle if it doesn't have
a M radio in it. I'll tell you that right now.
That's my style.
Speaker 20 (02:32:01):
Well, I bought about after market and a lot of
them don't have it on it. Uh yeah, But I
just wanted to dive into a couple of things real quick, man.
And uh I noticed man that Warren Shapid went to
Cordorado and what he and I got to see some
on him working with these guys and the methods he
(02:32:22):
was teaching them. Man, very impressive. And I got to
bring up Hunter with Houston. This dude is like Aminja man,
if you just watch it. I thought it was just me.
They was talking about it on the sportscast about some
hand moves this guy got and he's getting around there
real quick. And uh, overall, I don't you know this defense,
(02:32:45):
this Houston got a damn good defense.
Speaker 17 (02:32:47):
I don't.
Speaker 20 (02:32:48):
I can't find no fault with him. Yeah, they get
toasted every once in a while, but I think that's
some assignment problems. But I listened all week everybody what
they said about Houston and everything like that, and uh,
everybody got an opinion. But I'm just you know, going
into kind of the X you os. I'm looking up
and seeing this box road it up like that. You
(02:33:10):
got eleven people in this box and I'm seeing CJ.
Speaker 6 (02:33:14):
Man.
Speaker 20 (02:33:14):
You know, I understand this guy and pay played a
good thirty games and he's been taking down the road
he never been down before. And I looked up that man,
Tennessee got two guys over there that on that A
and B slot, and look like they just didn't have
an answer for that, and kept on, just kept on.
(02:33:35):
They gonna play. They're gonna just gonna send this send
this man running in there, you know. And one more thing, man, Sean,
And I'm kind of I'm gonna talk to the quarterback
side of you on that. Now, what would you do.
Now do you feel that they shouldn't? You know, I
noticed Houston don't want to use no full back or
nothing like that. But you've got a weakness in your line, man,
(02:33:57):
what's wrongs bringing in a fullback man to get that
in protection?
Speaker 1 (02:34:01):
You know, I just want Yeah, I appreciate it. Great points, man,
Obviously you know your football. I don't even care if
it's not a fullback. You can use that. Move h
guy as a Normally they're better pass protectors if they
know how to. If they're in it, then maybe a
fullback is because they're a little more nimble of foot.
(02:34:22):
But either way, I get what you're saying. To move
h back, full back, extra tight end, uh they need?
And what that does though, then now you limit yourself
to two man routes and you better hope you get
man coverage. Right, That's when you know because if you
get zone and it's two man route, they can take
away that. But yes, it's a great point. My biggest
problem is when it's just no pressure meaning no blitz
should I say, and they're getting pressures with foreign with
(02:34:44):
four men. I got a problem with that, and some
of it's just flat ass whiff. So I'm with you.
I'm with you. The protection Listen, every team, it's got
to start with protections and understanding protections not only is
the quarterback, but as an offensive one. And if you
don't understand protections and don't know how to block basic stuff,
you're in trouble in the past game and right now,
(02:35:07):
the best way to stop them is, you know, loading
it up and stopping mixing and making sure Nico Collins
doesn't kill you. Other than that, right now, they're not
beating you any other way offensively. And yes, unfortunately for
the Texans, Hunter is not going to be around. No,
because I don't usually subscribe to this. It's usually a
(02:35:28):
quarterback once in a while to be a left tackler
and edge rusher. I think that Travis Hunter is the
first pick of the draft. Yep, I do I think
he's that good. I think he's that. There's no quarterback
worthy of the first pick of this and I know
who's the first round the first rounder is, yes, first pick,
(02:35:51):
none of them. There's always a Ligneman edge rusher. There's
some really dominant players. I'm just going to tell you
because the truth is, if you made him focus on one,
he's in the Pro Bowl as a dB. If you
made him focus on one at wide receiver, he's a
one hundred catch Pro bowler. As Herbstreet said, he's the
(02:36:14):
best player on the field, best defensive back on the field,
and best wide receiver on the field. And he plays
one hundred. Well, if you have eighty, he plays like
one hundred and forty to one hundred and sixty plays
a game. Yeah, it's nuts. The last time we had
what Keishan was a receiver that was a first pick,
and before him, the last time we had a guy
that was a receiver slash was Irving Friar Jez at Nebraska.
(02:36:40):
This dude is the first pick of this draft in today. Now,
like I said, somebody may be in desperate need of
a left tackle right and you go find him. But
people normally we clamor to trade up for a quarterback
that high. You want to trade up for him, he
may be worth giving up some of that mortgage to
(02:37:01):
go get if you're a team. The problem is he
ain't gonna get him here. No you're not. You're gonna
be way out of the can you imagine him Lass
and Stingley and you could put one inside and then
allow allow Petrie to play his normal position. That's be stupid,
Oh really stupid, stupid and with those two edge rushers.
Speaker 4 (02:37:19):
Come on now, son Uh, you know you mentioned mac
Brown earlier. We were talking about him. Love mac Uh.
Pete Fammel reporting that University North Carolina has fired mac
Brown as their head coach.
Speaker 1 (02:37:29):
H that's a bummer.
Speaker 4 (02:37:30):
And then also Houston, University of Houston offensive coordinator Kevin
Barbay has been fired.
Speaker 1 (02:37:35):
Yeah, they made Willie Fritz made that move doing it now.
And what happens is you getting yourself ready for, you know,
to head head into the off season and maybe giving
the other coach a chance to go get some work
once the season ends, right, and it's by listen, mac
Brown's had a hell of a run. Yeah, and he
actually with Sam Howell and stuff. He went back there
and did some great things with North Carolina. Max's been
(02:37:58):
great for football. So they're out of the gentlemen, I
love mac Brown.
Speaker 4 (02:38:01):
So a little bit further, a little more details coming
out as we are ready to go to break. Brown
is actually going to be able to coach this Saturday
in the season finale against NC State.
Speaker 1 (02:38:09):
He's earned the right to say to be able to
say goodbye to his players. Yeah, that's disrespect. And I
understand why they're going in a different direction. But Mackel's
no apology and mac Brown's a Hall of Fame coach.
Oh yeah he is.
Speaker 4 (02:38:21):
There is no doubt seven one three, two, two five
seven it it's getting the last segment here on a
Tuesday edition of The Shawn Salz Versio.
Speaker 1 (02:38:28):
Hey, trajanwealth dot com, trajanwealth dot com. Hey, listen, we

it over meaning turnover and lose money and don't understand
risk tolerance and don't understand how to work your four

football on the football field, make sure that when you travel,
you've you've prepared for that Christmas holiday, travel vacation. Are
you doing the same for retirement? For your portfolio? Understanding
the risk tolerance? Understanding do you have enough money to
retire as we're living longer and can you stay retired
(02:39:31):
or what is it you want to do. Maybe you
want to build another business in retirement or have your
kids do whatever it is. You can't just jump into
it and land fall out of a turnip truck and
land into retirement and say hey here I am. There's got
to be preparations so you can prevent the poor performance
of it. And Trasan Well's there to help. It's t

Cordonna win five and I can't believe what God has done.
Oh yeah, what's up? Bill?
Speaker 5 (02:40:28):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (02:40:28):
For all you guys, I know it's short, Uh no short,
we are ourselves they speak for yourself. Okay, well you
guys have I want to know. We are we are
we we work tomorrow, Bill, Yeah, we're on you do. Yes,
I just wasted a phone call. Then all right tomorrow.
(02:40:49):
I love Bill. I thought if I actually thought Bill
was gonna pull up and he goes, you guys working short?
Short these notes, I thought he was. I thought he
was about to sneaky one. Oh, Bill would have been awesome,
sneaky one. I can't believe what God has done. That's
what they'll be saying if all of a sudden, Uh, MICHA.
McCarthy gets an extension.
Speaker 4 (02:41:10):
