he's aushi here his suspension upheld for three games. Sewn
triple Ley.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Good morning.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
It's also a special day here at iHeartMedia Houston. We've
got our Saint Jude radiothon sponsored by Gallery Furniture. Obviously,
you can become a monthly donor by pledging just nineteen
dollars a month to help a kid help kids at
Saint Jude fight cancer. We do this every single year
and it's a phenomenal two days. It'll be today and tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Seawan, Yeah, good morning, nice it is this Saint Jude
is well, been a part of it for a while
and just to be see the difference, So turn on
your TV and and listen to the emotion. I mean,
it's it's it's phenomenal to the point of it'll you
(01:19):
want to talk about tugging at your emotions. It'll it will,
You'll crawl ten miles over broken glass to help any
way you can. So God bless them. Grateful we get
to be a part of it, and our bosses here
and the people involved from Eddie and Mark and the
rest of them are so Uh. And and you know
Gallery Furniture is obviously sponsors this as well, and Mattress Mac.
(01:42):
We we are fortunate to have people that care a
lot and rightfully so. It's one of our favorite weeks
of the year, especially these two days where we get
to be a part of it, a small part of it.
You and I get to be out, but you know,
anything you can do to help, making donations and the
rest of it, it's changing lives and saving lives. And
grateful for him and so grateful they're here today and
(02:02):
we get to be a part of it the next
couple of days and every year, so and thankful to
our bosses it allow us to do this. Yeah, and
we last year raised over a million dollars. Last year's
efforts over a million dollars. That was combined with a
Saint Jude golf tournament. Uh.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
And also of course our radio Fion which will be
today and tomorrow across all of our radio stations here, Yeah,
through my heart here in Houston.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
And you know what is you don't yeah right here
in this building with that's a lot of money. But
why stop there, you know, I mean we keep doing
it because we keep wanting to make a difference and
it's needed and grateful for all those that contribute, and
again so good. It's always an honor to be a
part of it. So thanks to Saint Jude and listen up,
(02:46):
there'll be a lot of great stuff and we look
forward to uh to having you guys be a part
of it as well. Yeah, and we will.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
We will have little stories here and there about kids
that were battling cancer and how they came through it
and how much Sat Jud's help them. And of course
we'll be giving out the number to donate if you
want to become a Pledge member to give out excuse
me to give out some hope to a children, some
children at Saint Jude's. It's a spectacular thing that Saint
(03:14):
Juws does every single day for these for these.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Really simple I mean, it saves lives as well, and
it saves lives every dime does and it's it's important,
you know, it's we're grateful for it, but it's important
that every donation matters. It doesn't matter how much we'll
try to beat that goal. So we can also make
a difference here. So partners in Hope matter grateful to
(03:40):
be a part of that, and I'm grateful to be
a partner and Hope and we'll continue to do so.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Yeah, it's a really good thing what Saint Jews does.
The families don't have to pay for anything when their
kid is unfortunately battling cancer, going through treatments and stays
and things like that.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
As if the families don't have enough stress. What an
unbelievable thing that Sat. Jude's has been doing for so long.
So we'll be hitting on that all morning long.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
And again it's the Saint Jude Radio Thoon sponsored by
Gallery Furniture. On the sports side of things, well, Aziz Aushaire,
his case was heard by Ramon Foster, former player, and
it was upheld three games. So Aziz Aushaire will be
out for the next three games. And you know those
(04:21):
three games, the Dolphins, the Chiefs and the Ravens. Three
games ten days. They will not have him on that defense.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Well, if they don't play better in the second half offensively,
it won't matter if he's on the field or not.
That's they're going to have to take care of their
business offensively and play four quarters, which they don't seem
to do much this year, even at eight and five.
But we're gonna find out just how good they are
this year in the next three weeks, starting next to
what Sunday, I guess it is. I'm anxious to see.
(04:55):
I'm anxious to see. Is it Sunday they played? They
played the next game on the Sunday? Or is it Saturday?
First game the first time.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
When they come back, it'll be Sunday, and then they
will play Saturday against the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
And then the following Wednesday, Wednesday, right, which is Christmas Day.
I Uh, I'm not shocked that the three game suspension
was held up. The public outcry and the public just
all the coverage would have made it very difficult to
lessen that because of the the the over emphasis, not
(05:26):
just emphasis over emphasis on safety, which is important, but
especially when it comes to quarterback, a battle that I'm
not even talking about. The the uh an he's on
ir is is uh Trevor Lawrence and so you know
the part of it. And isn't his shoulder heard as well?
So that's a cushion and shoulder as well.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
That's what people uh you know took took uh what
is it umbridge with? Yeah, yesterday basically the news came out,
but no, none of these big time reporters and writers
actually said why he was on IR. It's not because
of the concussion, it's because of his shoulder. Ian Rappaport
was one of the only ones that I saw. Trevor
(06:06):
Lawrence is expected to have surgery to repair his significant
acy joint injury in his left shoulder. His season is over,
he heads to the IR.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
I had an ac joint injury. They didn't have to
have surgery on it. And when I was in college
and it is you it's it's not fun. And I'm
glad he for him that he's getting it done so
he can have the off season to rehab it and
be ready to go next year. You want good players
on the field and the best of Trevor Lawrence and
think and hopefully the concussion will go away soon. So
he's okay. But I just think the outcry and the
(06:40):
constant visuals you see on social media and around, there
was a very minimal chance, especially that it was on
a quarterback. Now, when I say that, you obviously know
how I feel that situation. I try to judge every
situation by what I saw on that play or the
next play. All this and well, he's got the reputation,
(07:03):
he's all those things you judge on. I'm talking about
the play with Trevor Lawrence. He should have been suspended.
I think it's too harsh. But I also think the rule,
the the social media and the constant emphasis about quarterbacks
you're always going to hit harder than not. But I
also think that the slide rule needs I think the
slide first, feet first rule is I think it's dumb.
(07:27):
I do I think that. I don't even think most
guys know really quite how to slide. It's like awkward, yeah,
and you're you're you're not putting yourself in a protective situation,
as we said yesterday. But this does not surprise me.
And like I told you, if you think the NFL
is going to err on the side of being less protective,
they're not. All this is going to do is heighten
(07:49):
it and don't be shocked if we have more rules
for the quarterback, which to me is absurd. This is
an unfortunate situation, an unfortunate injury, and an unfortunate play,
and there's gonna be people that can't stand it and
the optics of it and think that he's a dirty
player because they keep showing the compilation of other things
that have happened. And then you're gonna see the obviously
(08:10):
listening to the character in the locker room and the
people that swear by him as a person and a
football player. So you're gonna make your own judgment. Most
people aren't going to change theirs. But the NFL has spoken.
It's three and now he's in position, go out and
do it again. Hit somebody late again the second we
won't be good. So now he's got to tread lightly
and what he does, which can almost affect his play.
I just if Trevor Lawrence, if we don't have the
(08:33):
rule and Trevor Lawrence goes shoulder pads first, Trevor Lawrence
doesn't get we're not talking about it. He's getting prepared,
probably still taking whatever shots or whatever he's doing for
his you know, whatever rehab he's doing. For and he's
playing next week more than likely. And you know, it
doesn't mean you have to take guy's head on when
(08:54):
you're running out of the pocket. But I just think
that you leave yourself in a very vulnerable situation and
that's not what happens. Is in true Lawrence's fault. The
rules say slide feet first, but I don't like the
rule and I never have. I think we overprotect the quarterbacks,
notwithstanding the Trevor Lawrence thing. And I think the feet
first slide is part of the reason why the head's
always exposed. Yeah, you don't have anything in front of it,
(09:15):
and unfortunately, and the truth is too. I think the
viciousness of al Shaire's forearm is what's what. Also where
it's like it was almost like it was forced forearm right,
Whether it's intention or not, I don't know. I don't
think he tried to maim Trevor Lawrence, right, but the
optics weren't good, And I get why people don't like it,
and I also get why the you know when you
(09:37):
appeal it that they looked at this and now can't
do it. They're going to always err on the side
of that quarterback. They do on any quarterback, they just are,
whether we like it or not, and I think we
overprotect them in this situation. The optics were awful. It
was out, it was just him. It wasn't like eight
players around. It was him and Lawrence in the open field.
And unfortunately, I told you, I said, I doubt it's
going to get reduced. If anything, it'd be one game,
(09:59):
but not taking this down any farther. Yeah, he's got
three games. It's gonna be expensive, and it's gonna cost
him reputation wise, unfortunately. Yeah, now he's gonna have to
fix out with referees and the rest of.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
It outside of the attack on his character and everything
to be made about him. Shy, you're the player. The
biggest thing that's come to light about this whole situation
is the feet first slide for quarterbacks. I saw multiple
videos yesterday of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen from this
season where they run towards a first down and it
(10:32):
looks like they're about to slide, and it shows a
defender literally stopping themselves and then they take off like
there's a play. This year, I can't remember who Josh Allen,
who the Buffalo Bills were playing, it looks like Josh
Allen's about to slide. It looks like he's about to
start the slide with his right foot going forward. Yep,
he pivots, takes off for an extra seven yard, scores
a touchdown because the defender literally stopped because he didn't
(10:54):
want to hit the quarterback. Of course, that's a touchdown.
You just had to give up a touchdown because you
thought the quarterback was gonna slide.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
And Josh Allen's about six five, two forty and if
you if you do that and hesitate and you just
kind of sit back on your heels, and then he
re reaccelerates with his big body and puts his helmet
in your your strands and runs you over. Yeah, you
become a highlight video right again and again, no question,
and they show it five thousand times and nobody says
(11:22):
anything other than ooh, Josh Allen. But you know, bitch
slapped him, you know what I'm saying, or ran through him.
Who quarterback tougher than the guy. Yet the guy simply
broke down in front like I can't hit him like
I want to, and so it's just not right. And listen,
I understand within the rule, you can do what you
do because they've allowed it. But Mahomes is the worst
(11:43):
instigator of it all. Now, I don't promote him getting
hit or hurt, but he milks it. I'm talking about
throughout his career. It's a regular occurrence. I saw another
compilation video of him doing it. I mean he does
this stuff damn near couple times a game. Yeah. If
it seems like if I the thought process of a
(12:06):
defensive player once they I mean they're already limited on
how they can play. What's gonna happen when he pulls
when it's not an okie doke and he starts to slide?
So what happens when Mahomes all of a sudden gets
towards the sideline and he does that fake step out
of bounds or hesitate like he's going down and then
(12:27):
cut back inside for fifteen more yards. What's gonna happen
when one guy says not today, son, Yeah, and they
run him through and knock him back into Andy Reid's lap,
and I'm talking about whiplash hit. They're gonna call penalty
and everybody's just say, you can't hit Mahomes like that,
And we're gonna sit there and say, well, if I'm
the player, I'm no longer erin on the side of
(12:50):
breaking down and let him get fifteen more yards. I'm
gonna hit him, not hurt him, but I'm gonna hit
him legally. But is see, like I said, I promote
I do. If I'm cooking, you hit them as hard
as you possibly can legally and fairly, not head hunt.
Hit him as hard as a hand, and you send
a message the way football is supposed to be sent.
But they milk it all the time. They milk it
(13:10):
all and they're good at it, and the rule says
you can so until they change the rule. Like I said,
we overprotect quardecks. Don't you think quarterback's reputation in the
last fifteen years has taken a hit? Yes, it even
when you're a great player and doesn't deserve to take
a hit. Not a hit on the field, the literal
hit from like the way that we look at you. Okay,
(13:31):
if I ask you who's tougher, Patrick Mahomes or Jim Kelly,
what are you going to say, even it may not
be true, what are you gonna say? Jim Kelly, Yeah,
he's one of the toughest of all time, regardless of
who you're talking about. If I say Dan Marino or
John Elway or Jim Patrick Mahomes or I don't care,
Trevor Lawrence, who are you gonna say? John Elway? And
they may not be the case, but the rules have
(13:53):
made it to where you respect the toughness of a guy,
then then you do. Now why because they had to
play true tackle football.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
When was the last time you saw a quarterback leap
up into the air and get helicoptered around like John Elway?
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (14:07):
I just I mean, honestly, when was the last time
you saw it? Josh Aden is the only one that
I can kind of think of that actually would put
his body on the line to try to score time.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
Everybody out there google Mike tom Zach hit when he
was an NFL the biggest hit in the NFL on
Mike tom Zach when you go to break You google
that and you want to say, how did he ever
get up? Yeah? Google that. I'm not saying they're tougher,
but I'm talking about the perception is is your perception
that Mahomes is tougher than l Way? No, he mcgret
(14:36):
the right and he may very well be just as tough.
My point is the rules have made it where I
think quarterbacks toughness, even though they may be tough, has
taken a hit. Yeah, because the rules. And that's another
reason why I don't think quarterbacks like you like it
while the game's going on. When when you walk off
the field into room, if I set fifteen guys from
two thousand and back to two thousand and in front,
you know what, You're going to look across the room
(14:58):
at each other like a hat Fields and Cooy's duel.
The guys that are playing now are gonna say, and
we could compete with you that way. But I'm most
sit on your side of the room when it comes
to the toughness and the rules that have created us
to be painted as a little softer, Yeah, which is
not fair to them, right, and they milk the rule
and I would too. But let's slow down now. These
rules need to change. We are overly protective of these quarterbacks,
(15:20):
but we don't give a rats ass about a receiver
who doesn't slight feet.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
First right or the center right left tackle, the right tackle,
Like don't care the guards, like it doesn't matter.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
It's all about the quarterback. I as a quarterback, I
am all for getting rid of the rule. Once you
break the pocket, you're a football player. Yeah, you're free run.
Now you got to do what you've got to do
to protect yourself and learn how to free runner.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
What should the NFL do about the sliding of the quarterback.
We'll talk about it next and again. Our Saint Jude
Radiothon sponsored by Gallery Furniture. Become a monthly donor by
pledging just nineteen dollars a month to help kids at
Saint Jude fight cancer. Put your gift on a credit
card and you'll get the new this Shirt Saves Lives
T shirt and a Saint Jude sweatshirt.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Call right now.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
One eight hundred five eight eight one four three three
One eight hundred five eight eight one four three three.
Again that's one eight hundred five eight eight one four
three three.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
Of course, today is our Saint Jude Radio Thought sponsor
by Gallery Furniture. Become a monthly donor by pleasuring just
nineteen dollars a month to help kids at Saint Jude
fight cancer.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
One eight hundred five eight eight one four three three.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
We talked about that all morning along well, sewn I
watched that Mike tom Zach hit.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Nineteen ninety five when he was made back for the
Steelers against the Lions. That would have been flagged and
they would have caught it. They would have thought about
a suspension. And it was a clean hit stereotip him
right in the tour. So how you are taught to tackle?
What do I say? Vicious, physical, explosive, but fair. Yeah,
(16:57):
that hit, Now people lose.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Their mind and they just they train staff came out
visited with him and they just went on like nothing happened.
No flags, flags, no, no benches clearing them. No, you
can't hit a guy that Well, that's why we play football. Yeah,
that's their job is to separate the player from the football.
And tom Zach wheeled into one of the that was viscus.
You see the whiplash. Yeah, vicious but fair.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Now, I'm just said, we're not comparing these to the
al Shire hit, but you want to just compare what
they allowed and that then and what they don't allow. Now,
come on, son, it's a completely different ball game. Yeah,
magic Patrick Mahomes getting hit like that, Well though they
did cancel football. Yah, they would. The season will be
canceled and they crown the world champions. But Roger Goodell,
we've got a guard against vicious illegal hits to the
(17:42):
head or cheap shots at a guy's legs. But we
got to get rid of this slide feet first. We
just do. I think you tell me how protected you
are as a player first, Yes, aside from the rule
that you're supposed to be protected, you tell me what's
safe about sliding? Where one arm goes to the ground,
the other holds the football, and your head is the
highest part of your body. It's just natural. When your
(18:05):
body goes down, you go down. The heads the last
thing to hit the ground. Normally, when you slide, you're
from your waist up. You are exposed completely sliding feet first,
even if a guy tries to miss you. What if
he tries to miss you and goes by and kicks
you in the heads of your knee.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Every times you've seen quarterbacks get concussions from a knee
to the helmet, right, wouldn't it just.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Be smarter to eliminate that rule. Let them, when they
break the bock, be a football player and let them
decide if you're Josh Allen. You want to take on
a corner and lower your shoulder pad like you did
in the seventh grade. Do it well like he's doing. Now,
go ahead, our quarterback. These guys are Allen's an outside
linebacker size so, and then we play fair football. Guys,
(18:46):
fly to it. Now, if all of a sudden, you're
going and a guy goes helmet the helmet, it's easy
for us to see penalty. But at least I got
upper body. I can protect myself showing some shoulder and back.
I can even dive and get down like a guy
does when he's diving the stand the ball on the sidelines,
you know when they do that to get to the
first down. Now you're just coming up the ball, extend
and get down. I mean, you can cry down any
(19:07):
time you want, but that I'm wins the hesitation. There's
the first down and the guy's milk it. They see
the first down marker, they're going they push a little further.
The guy says, oh, he's going to try to get
this first down. I'm gonna prevent him, and before you
know it, the slide starts. You start your your to
leave your feet to make a tackle and what happens
you great head to and the and the defensive guy
(19:27):
always gets punished for it.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Josh Allen six, I know he is Trevor Lawrence six.
These are big ass dudes.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
I like the situation where this dude's running full speed
for you and they expect.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
And then you get trucked as a defensive back because
you're afraid to hit him because you're going to give
it the oki dok and yeah, and and then then
your teammates and then you go in the film room
the next day and the coach you can clown well.
And if you're a if you're a middle of the
road player who's a guy who's really hard to try
to make a team, did you know what they look
at you to say, why aren't you being aggressive here?
We had a chance to stop this guy from get
it first. Well, I don't want to get fired to
(20:06):
see and it becomes a cumultive effect on the player
and the football team. So say, I just don't. The
more the rules, the more there are rules to break.
We didn't have a lot of rules in nineteen And
I know you got to protect the player, but you
can still protect the players likely in nineteen ninety they
protected the player. Just don't hit him in the helmet light,
don't don't jump at his knees when he's sitting there
late and you got and he's engaged. Now there's so
(20:30):
many rules you're kind of you're in between which, as
you know, rules are made to what be broken. And
all those quarterbacks I named yesterday, there's still they're still
still rolling along pretty good. Why because you knew you
could get hit in the open field, so you protected yourself.
Now it's a crutch on a slide down. Leave my
head exposed. Now, you don't want me to get hit,
(20:51):
but sometimes it is unavoidable to get hit. I'm not
even talking about alshy here. I'm talking about the overall.
Get rid of it. Get rid of it. And it's
not a safe slide anyway. What's gonna happen when the
first guy slides in and we've seen it before, blows
out his knee. How many times you've seen a guy
where he got They've they've they've slid in there, cleats,
get caught in the turfer in the grass, and next
thing you know, it's not even the hit that got him,
(21:13):
it's the slide. Yeah, no, it's football. Once you break
the pocket, there's eleven on eleven. You got to protect
yourself when you're in the pocket. I still think we overprotect.
The guy gets hit and it's like, okay, you know
he hit him with his shoulder. We got we gotta
blow whistle. But it's there's common sense on the helmet,
the helmet, lead with your helmet. We should have been
doing that in nineteen sixty. Fine, you know, penalizing them then,
(21:34):
and we will. But the more you have rules, the
more people are like, I don't what do I do?
Make it clean? Yeah, give rid of the rule. I
agree to get rid of the rule. Feet first slide.
I said it yesterday and I just I'm living by it.
And I played the position I never. I can't even
remember a time and they didn't have that rule then,
but I can ever a time we're like, man, I'm
gonna get hit. Sliding feet first. You just kind of
(21:56):
got you just kind of you know you maybe he
got down or got out of mounds. I don't ever
remember a time. I'd have to find it where I
slid feet first. Now I was six five, two thirty,
and you try to stay away from those that I
was a pocket. But when you did break out, sometimes
just lower your shows. Say I'm bigger than the corner.
Screw him right, and then I wasn't stupid enough to
take on three linebackers? Yeah who is? Well some are
(22:16):
and if that's the case, then good luck. That's called
have a little bit of a football like Q and
field right? Well wherethal you? No question about it?
Speaker 5 (22:26):
Zi's alshai ere he spoke or speak but he uh
put someone up on his Instagram once he heard that
his suspension was upheld.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
What did he say? We'll talk about it next.
Speaker 5 (22:34):
Become a monthly donor by pledging just nineteen dollars a
month to help kids at Saint Jude fight cancer. Today
is our Saint Jude Radio Thoon, sponsor by Gallery French.
Will have it today and tomorrow. Put your gift on
a credit card and you'll get the new this Shirt
Saves Lives T shirt and a Saint Jude sweatshirt called
now one eight hundred five eight eight one four three three.
One eight hundred five eight eight one four three three
(22:55):
Again that's one eight hundred five eight eight one four
three three.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
We're for the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
Continued, what eight hundred and five eight eight one four
three three. We'll have the UH the board up here
in about thirty minutes to try to figure out what
goals we need to hit for the rest of our show.
It's gonna be rolling on all through UH the morning
and day here on Sports Talk seven ninety and across
our sister stations h here at iHeartMedia Houston seven one
(23:25):
three two two, seven ninety is the number to join
its talctor Billy, Billy, appreciate you holding.
Speaker 7 (23:30):
Good morning, Hey, good morning guys. Got a question for
for you guys, and a couple of comments and then
I'm gonna jump off the phone quick for others. But
just a question is is is there a rule book,
a guideline or whatever the NFL goes by or they
just flying by the seat of their pants. Is this
offense a finalalle offense? This offense is suspension or are
(23:52):
they just guessing and they're looking at well, we don't
like this guy, so we're gonna, you know, we're gonna
throw him under the bus big time. And just that question.
Two quick comments. I want to thank you guys. My
wife's coming home from the hospital on Friday for all
the thoughts and prayers from everybody out there. I got
a lot of people contact me on X who know
that I'm a caller on seven ninety and I appreciate
(24:13):
that very much. We got some mountains to climb, but
we have a path and it's great. And last but
not least, I've been a supporter of Saint Jude's for
nine years now and.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
It's worth it.
Speaker 7 (24:25):
These kids are worth it. And we need to make
sure that not a single family does not get treatment
for their children that have cancer. And it's one less lunch,
it's one less time to Starbucks. It's take a little
bit of a sacrifice for yourself for these families and
for these kids. It's worth it. Please give to these kids.
(24:46):
And I'm a chill off storry guess.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
Thank you, Thank you, Billy, don't ever apologize for the emotion.
I'm with you. It's nine years. It is a partner
and hope, I'm believable. I of all the things that
I do. If I had to cut back on anything,
you know what, it's not going to be partner and hope,
it's just not going to be. And whether it's seeing
(25:08):
a commercial or hearing emotional stories about people who have
benefited from it or need the one thing you know
through all this, I mean, I don't know how you can.
It's it's such it's such a cruel disease, right, and
you mean you got the there is nothing you'll do
(25:29):
more important in your day than help somebody else. Ever,
I know it sounds cheesy, but it's not cheap. But
it's turn on your TV here the commercials, listen to
the to the stories. You hear Billy talking about it,
and it is when you think about the stress that
(25:50):
those families go through, and when you when I see
the commercials or hear stories and the kids are so resilient,
it's like I couldn't do it. I watched my father,
you know, go through you know when you lose a parent.
My dad go through mesothelioma. And then you think about
a seven year old or an eight year old kid
and the family and the stress it puts on them.
(26:10):
And then the last thing they have to worry about
with Saint Jude is worrying about the money. Yeah, what
an unbelievable relief. Now you hope to God you save
the kid's life and extend the life. But they now
they can immerse themselves into doing everything they can to
support their child. It's as it is, as I got
news for you. You won't remember the day you bought
(26:32):
the coffee. No you won't. You will sure as hell
remember the difference it made here. Yeah, And what I'm
talking about with the with those kids' lives and those
families have enough stress. Yeah, Like I've just I've got
stories here in front of me.
Speaker 8 (26:46):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
One of the first ones that I saw was a
seventeen month year old seventeen months just over a year,
tumors in both eyes with cancer.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
And then if you and then you hang around those
kids and you're almost ashamed when you hear when those
kids are excited. They're excited every day and you're like,
and I'm complaining about my traffic drive into work. Yeah,
And they they're the ones that I mean, you see
some of the stories, it's like, man, they're the ones
fighting for their lives. And the energy they showed, it's like,
(27:17):
if we could all do that right, have that energy.
It's just it's it's so it's such a hopefully one
day we come up with a cure for this, but
these children fighting it and their families there there there
can be nothing we can do better with some of
our money. I just I cannot fathom.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
I saw what my dad had lung cancer when he died,
Like I saw what it did to him.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
I cannot fathom.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
A seventeen month year old boy with cancer in both
his eyes tumors. Yeah, was right there to take care
of Phoenix and his mom because they were struggling, right obviously,
and he survived.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Right and they get to live a life. Yeah. Yeah,
I think about before my parents always talking about and
it wasn't for cancer, but it was a blood disease.
But my parents buried a nine month old son, buried one.
You're not supposed to bury your kids. They're supposed to
bury you. And so when you think any think oh
(28:16):
my twenty bucks or my thirty bucks or my fifty bucks. Yeah,
if you're going to sacrifice, I know this. Anytime I've
gone through struggles, when we start feeling sorry for ourselves,
the greatest thing I've ever done to feel better is
immerse myself into somebody else. And I got news for you.
You know, Billy's talking about here's Billy and tears on
(28:37):
the air. His wife's getting out of the hospital. And
he's concerned in prayers, and she's coming home and he's
still talking about how important in a partner and hope is.
So it's and it'll life change her and for those
kids life saver and for those families alleviate stress and
(28:59):
allows them to do what they need to do, spend
time with those kids and love them and not have
to worry about anything. It's one of the most phenomenal
things that anybody does to save these kids' lives, it
really is. And they cannot do it, none of you
can't do it without the help of people that are
listening now, people's donations, people showing up and giving money.
(29:22):
And if you don't think you're twenty five or you're thirty,
or your fifty bucks matters, now go fifty times a
thousand when a thousand people have done it. Now now
do that math and it becomes a strength in numbers.
So I just it is. It's hard for me to
get through these days because you start reading stories and
(29:43):
then you turn on your TV and inevitably some kids
up there really talking about what it's done for them.
H and they're excited and smile on their face and
they don't even know what's coming down the pipe or
pike in ten days or another treatment, right, and their
families are sitting there, and what a blessing it is
for them not to have to worry about where another
checks coming from. Because, as we know, medical care ain't cheap.
(30:03):
No it's not. So I don't know, man, but but
that's to me. If you can immerse yourself and sacrifice
something for a couple months, for a year, maybe that's
two less, cover make up, make a one time doing
it right, whatever it is, well right. But if you say,
I mean, come on, man, can you sacrifice fast food
for a one day a week for the next year.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
I mean you look at the grants and the grand
scheme of things. Nineteen dollars a month. Break that down
between four monks point five bucks a week.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
That's my point.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
You spend five bucks on coffee, you spend five bucks
on two bottles of water.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
I'm guilty of it. I spy buy buy bottles of water. Here.
We all want five bucks. We all are. So I
don't know, and I'm you know, it's I almost plead
with you. Just twenty bucks a month and then twenty
of your buddies do it, and then twenty of their buddies.
It's that that that cumulative effect that makes a difference.
Speaker 5 (30:55):
I mean, we raised over a million dollars here at
iHeartMedia Houston last year.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
No reason why we're in a baseball year.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
Yeah, and it's gonna it's gonna take take everybody, yep,

(33:00):
from Saint Jude to donate phenomenal for Saint Jude's Hospital
supporting kids that are fighting cancer, awful awful disease and man,
what a what a day we've got today and tomorrow
trying to raise some money. Also got a big night
tonight packers at Lions in the NFL. We were talking
about the azi's al Shire suspension being upheld for three games.
(33:23):
You know, it's it's kind of funny that Paul not
Paul running Paul Bunyan. John Runyon was the one that
suspended that handed down the three games suspension on.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
As he's Alshy year. And then you had Ramone. What's Ramone?
Foster was the one that I believe he does radio
in Nashville, Doesn't he does? Where we got al Shay're from? Correct?
Speaker 2 (33:52):
John Runyon?
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Well, I've said it. We talked about a couple of days.
Speaker 5 (33:55):
Now that John Running at one point was voted dirtiest
player in the NFL for two years. Well, Ramone Foster
back in twenty seventeen was not happy with John Runyan.
John Running suspended Juju Smith Schuster for a hit on
Vontez Perfect and he was suspended for a game. And
Ramonte Foster at the time was the Steelers players rep
(34:18):
for the NFL's NFL Players Association. He said, quote, super flawed,
super flawed. There are so many errors in every situation.
It's ridiculous. There's no common ground, there's no justification in it.
And if you're saying you're going to suspend a guy
for tawning, I thought towning was a fine and not
a suspension. Didn't Running win the league's most dirty player
one or two times? Is he just trying to get
back in the good graces of God because of that?
Speaker 4 (34:39):
I don't know. Is he just trying to fix his
carme or what? I don't know.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
It's flawed, That's the best way I can put it.
It's super flawed. End quote. And then, of course, as
we've seen all week long videos of John Runyan cheap
shotting people, well, some videos of Ramote Foster and his
playing career. Sean came out yesterday and my god, there
are some really dirty hits him. How do these two
guys get voted or however picked to hand down suspensions
(35:09):
and hear suspensions that could be reduced when they were
once quote unquote dirty players in their career.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Well, isn't this the NFL?
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Like that?
Speaker 4 (35:18):
This is so the NFL? Well, maybe it had to
do with it has to do with this as part
of their repentance. Okay, I mean that makes part of
their repentance. Say, you guys were you had some very
noticeable cheap shots in your career, So we're going to
(35:41):
help you heal yourself. I'm being a little bit yeah
your funk and cheek with I don't know, but they
obviously had the interview to get the job, and they
convinced somebody that or maybe they know well enough what
a cheap shot is, uh huh, and put him in charge. So, hey,
remember how you were as a player. Sometimes we're asking people.
(36:04):
I'm not defending Ramon Foster or John Runyon what they
did at the time, but here we're asking people don't judge,
and so are the Texans don't judge a guy or
label him a bad person or because of what happened. Yeah, right,
yeah and fair so because of what happened, if it,
should we do this? Do we give him? Do people
(36:26):
fix their lives? And are we supposed to label for
the way Runyon played that he now hasn't like you know,
maybe I'd do this different. We're asking that for the
player right now, So shouldn't we have So if Alsha
heard this hit and what you've seen in his compilation
fifteen years from now, are we supposed to say bad guy? Why?
What if he does this he says, you know what,
(36:47):
I made some hits and I'm going and I'm gonna
try to clean this up. Whatever the reason why. I
get the irony of it. Yeah, that's I do. I
get the irony of it. But I also understand that
as a player, there's plenty of guys that are great
people that played football a little uh to a different
drum than the rest of us.
Speaker 5 (37:06):
That there was a couple of videos I saw from
Oonen Foster where plays damn near over and he comes
out of nowhere and shoots right for lineman's legs like knees,
like there's a scrum, he comes out of nowhere, shoots
straight for a dude's knees. I saw like four different
videos of his.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
In his career. What what what he? What they did
in their careers doesn't give them a lifetime sentence of
being a bad guy.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Right.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
The irony is we understand why it wears on us?
Speaker 5 (37:32):
Yeah, I do, apparently, I guess, I guess John John
Runyon is just handing out suspensions for quote unquot illlegal
hits left and right. You know that that dumb ass
over you get a car, You get a car. John
running is like you're suspended. You're suspended. You're suspending for
that day.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
When the when you get that officer who hides behind someone,
you go speed and is given like ever you see him,
every tim has got another ticket away because man, I'm behind,
I haven't given my ticke. I got fifteen up, I
got I gotta write some tickets today.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
If you've ever driven down forty five South at five
o'clock in the morning, every I'm not kidding you, every
morning that I take forty five South, it's not very often,
but when I do, there is a police officer on
a motorcycle that has somebody pulled over every morning.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
The other morning two he pulled over two coming out
of my community. There's you'll see one or the guy
at four thirty in the morning that are parked in
a turn lane to go to turn on a street.
But they're parked in the turn lane, sitting there and
trying to get And I'm gonna say they got a job.
But my point is that it's similar you're handing out fines.
They're like, I got to pick the tempo up. I
(38:34):
got a couple of tickets, right, so HPD And it's
annoying and we don't like it. But if you don't
like it, don't don't don't break the rules, right yeah, right,
don't break the law, do it? Right? So yeah, I mean, well,
there's a reason. And if they're good at their jobs, fine,
but you know, I understand the irony of it.
Speaker 10 (38:55):
I do.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
I think it's very ironic, no question. I'm like, watching these,
it's almost like it's a it's almost like it is
a troll by the ENFA exactly, no question, feels.
Speaker 5 (39:03):
And then when I read the article about when Juju
Smith Schuster rocked vontez Berfeing, and of course you had
the Bengals and the Steelers beefing because of Antonio Brown.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
Everything that was that.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
It's a wide receiver putting a block on perfect and
he did Sean, he decletes him. Oh yeah, and he
got suspendedful And honestly, it's not even a it's a
legal hit. And you know there's running right there. Maybe hey,
too much physicality, boom, suspended.
Speaker 4 (39:29):
Legal legal, physical vicious hits should not be penalized or fined.
Speaker 5 (39:35):
There's no doubt, no question. It's crazy man. All right,
let's get into these seven.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
O'clock on me. Sometimes when I say the integrity of
football tackle football is being challenged, and it is. It
is when and I don't know how you can say
it's not not on me, but they'll be. You'll get
the once once or twice in a thousand people say, yeah,
we got to you know, the one who sits up
there and you don't want to play two hand touch, right,
It's like, well, you know, we got to protect these
guys concussions. Yeah, and they got to protect themselves too.
(40:02):
They know the risk, that's right. Yeah, So does a
guy gets up on scaffolding on a third floor and
it is plastering a building and goes through the risk
of falling off the scaffold. The guy that goes and
gets out on the oil ring in West Texas. The question, Yes,
it has no doubt about it. They got to make
a living right and they know it. Yeah. Most guys
want less rules in all that they do, not more right.
Speaker 5 (40:25):
Yeah, no big government in nfl amen That's what we got, man,
it's getting a seven o'clock hour. Nick Saria speak Nick
Cassario speaking to the media yesterday, he talked about the
offensive struggles for the Texans.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
What did he say?
Speaker 5 (40:37):
We'll hear it and we will discuss next next but
become a monthly donor by pledging just nineteen dollars a
month to help kids at Saint Jude fi Cancer One
eight hundred five eight eight one four three three. One
eight hundred five eight eight one four three three. Again,
that's one eight hundred five eight eight one four three three. Hey,

Texas Lottery and make their holiday very special. That's the

Speaker 5 (42:03):
Rockets Golden State Warriors Tonight, nine o'clock tip off, eight
o'clock launch pad. It's getting the seven o'clock hour right
here on Sports Talk seven ninety, The Seawan Salisbury Show,
Sean Bryner, Tripoli. You can become a monthly donor by
pledging just nineteen dollars a month to help kids at
Saint Jude fight cancer. Today and tomorrow is our Saint
Jude Radio Thon sponsor by Gallery Furniture one eight hundred
five eight eight, one, four, three, three. You'll hear stories
(42:24):
throughout the morning and all day here on Sports Talk
seven ninety man man oh man Zi's aushaire his suspension
upheld for three games. He posted on social media about
becoming a villain. If you want me to be your villain,
(42:48):
let me get the correct verbiage here in front of me.
If you want me to be your villain, I'll be
your villain with the middle finger emoji, see you soon,
and he posted the joker.
Speaker 4 (43:06):
All right, I'm okay. Let me ask you this, So
what purpose does that? Wait? Where to go? He is, yuh,
there you go? What purpose does he could do whatever?
It's his social media, But in the in the fight
of it, let me ask you this, would you respond
to if you'r a hmmer, would you just say I'm
(43:28):
gonna keep on playing hard letter? I mean to respond
to the villain. Doesn't that make it feel like? Okay?
Does it make it when you hear that. I'm not
saying anything wrong with it. I'm just looking at from
the NFL standpoint, a hit guy got and I don't
think he's a cheap player. I think he's been in
some unfortunate circumstances, And I'm going to judge the way
that the guys judge him in the locker room, and
(43:49):
judging from what there's a lot of judge here. The
way Demiko and Nick Cassero talk about him tells me
that he's named the captain after four months. Pretty impressive. Yeah,
but the take away, the fact that it was a
penalty and he's getting suspended the rest of it. Is
it wise? You want me to be the villain? Isn't
he the villain though? On the hit? Yeah? So I
(44:11):
just what purpose does it serve to retal it, to
respond like this? It's not a big deal. I'm just
asking what purpose does it serve? Does it speak to you? Okay?
Do you think there's remorse there?
Speaker 11 (44:21):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (44:22):
Yeah? Not about the injury I'm talking about because he
sent it to him. I know he did. I know
he didn't. He feels bad about treblings. But I mean,
is there a remorse about the way he plays?
Speaker 12 (44:32):
No?
Speaker 4 (44:32):
I don't think so hard and there shouldn't be about
the way he plays.
Speaker 5 (44:34):
Hard, plays fast, furious and gets after it and really exposed.
Speaker 4 (44:42):
And I don't know how I feel about him. It's
not that big a deal. But you want to play
the villain and put the joker up there? Does it
serve him? Does it?
Speaker 9 (44:49):
Is it?
Speaker 4 (44:50):
I don't know? Is it a wise smart among all
this after the suspension comes down and know, and the
appeal was denied, is it smarter? Is it not that
big a deals? Just like him? So the player in
parents not that big deal? Or do you think the
NFL looks like you're like, oh, okay, does it open
up a can of worms for them to watch him
even closer?
Speaker 11 (45:07):
Now?
Speaker 4 (45:08):
I think?
Speaker 5 (45:08):
I to me, I don't think the social media is
big is that big of a deal. I think they're
gonna be watching him regardless.
Speaker 4 (45:15):
You don't think that adds to it?
Speaker 5 (45:17):
And no, I don't, because what what adds to it,
honestly was the way that he acted after the hit.
Speaker 4 (45:22):
And after that. I think that's part of the reason
why it's three games. Yeah, well, and it was upheld.
I don't like that it was three games.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
I think it should have been a fine and at
the at the very least or at the max one game,
I'd have given him a game. Yeah, just because he's
he's never been suspended for, never been ejected, you know,
so forth.
Speaker 10 (45:38):
And so on.
Speaker 4 (45:38):
If you're not ejecting him or suspending him from past hits,
then how can you hold those passits against him on
a suspension? Right? So I think the social media stuff,
I mean, look, so that's the time we live in. Yeah,
I think so. Yeah, And I figured that was it.
It's not that big. It's not like he was singling
anybody out.
Speaker 6 (45:52):
No.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
Sometimes I just wanted to think that is it better
just to remain silent and just go do your thing
and keep playing hard when you get back and and
and let everybody else banter and argue about it. Yeah,
and you and your little circle do that or do
you put it out there because you know what happens?
You know what jack people are gonna go on. Not
that he cares, I mean, nor would I if somebody
has a differing opinion, but you know what the others
(46:15):
are gonna do. They're going to start, you know, sending
stuff and gifts of him hitting somebody later you know,
it goes. All it does is enhance the fact that. Okay,
then if you do get into the banter and you do,
just spend time on social media over the next three weeks,
because you're gonna have timed on your hands. Do you
get into those battles where you just like it's exhausting, right, Yeah,
(46:35):
that's all I'm saying. You just use it up your time.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
Right.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
So I mean, look, if this, uh, if this is
what energizes the Texans and hey man, so be it
right out with it.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
Yeah, I know you're not talking about the hit or
the injury. You know about how it came, how it's
played out since then. Yes, That's what I'm talking about. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:50):
So on this Instagram post, he had like nine or
ten of his teammates all respond just a couple of them.
Joe Mix and said, don't worry about it, pimp, we
gonna step for you on me tomorrow. Laster says, still
stepping hang on, I got a couple more Will Anderson Jr.
Ten toes behind you, Cap Henry Toatoa did the uh
(47:12):
uh the tough emoji? You know where it's like the
eyes are closed, it looks like a bull, you know,
breathing out the nose.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
That tough? Is that tough? Is that what the kids
are saying?
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (47:23):
And then who called him cap Will Anderson? Yeah? We
Will Anderson Jr.
Speaker 5 (47:27):
Uh Chris Boyd straight up, you rocket, I'm rolling scoop
Zilla three.
Speaker 4 (47:32):
I don't I don't know.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
Who that is.
Speaker 4 (47:33):
I'm assuming it's a teammate. Get down or lay down?
Speaker 13 (47:35):
Cuh.
Speaker 5 (47:37):
Brevin Jordan said, mm hmmm, Titus Howard, yes, sir, and
then Jamar Jordan, Yeah, he's let's go baby, fire me up.
That's a diabolical laugh. Where did you get that old bike?
Speaker 4 (47:59):
Is that off? Is that off a thriller?
Speaker 11 (48:02):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (48:02):
Indeed, Jackson does he say?
Speaker 2 (48:04):
Cut on?
Speaker 4 (48:05):
There? Who said that?
Speaker 2 (48:07):
You did?
Speaker 6 (48:09):
It?
Speaker 4 (48:09):
Just sounded so perfect, like did they really say get
down and laid down?
Speaker 10 (48:12):
Cut?
Speaker 4 (48:13):
Yeah, just get down and laid down? Yeah, so they
got They did say cap though, they did say yeah
Will Anderson Junior ten toes behind you cat with a
salute emoji. Yeah, but you can't salute like proper. You
got it? Oh yeah, ten toes by me. I got
you man, I got your back. You're six? Yeah, I
got your six? Oh yeah yeah. Obviously beloved by his teammates, saying,
(48:34):
you know what, I would expect nothing less than rallying
around your player. Who the hell is scoob Zilla? I
don't know? Real quick?
Speaker 14 (48:41):
Hold on?
Speaker 4 (48:43):
Yeah, why you gotta go scoop Zilla on their ass,
scoob Zilla three. Well, oh it's Jamal Hill, Okay, linebacker
for the Sexans. He's gonna have to play, So get
your mind right, Scoob. Scoob zill tes t to Scoob
and his he Yeah, I do love when I see
(49:04):
players rally around their guy. Yeah, and they and they
should go ten toes down or up or whatever. He
sa toes behind, ten toes behind, ten toes up and
ten toes down refers to something that has different in
the sheets that on the field right right, feel me
dog still Stepman.
Speaker 5 (49:23):
Lasser said, who's big Fish underscore fifty four? I can't
ever keep up with these guys, man.
Speaker 4 (49:29):
All the numbers. Whoever, who's number fifty four on the team?
That'll answer that question? Big Fish underscore? Oh it's Blake Fisher, duh, yeah,
Blake Fisher. Yeah. There you go. They got, they got,
They got three games to do their thing without him.
They're gonna go home three whoa man, maybe the lights
(49:51):
of fire and they're flying around. We'll see how man,
it's gonna be interesting to see how physical they are
against Miami.
Speaker 5 (49:57):
Huh, Because you play whether and you're playing indoors. Yeah,
that offense is pretty damn good.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
Normal weather.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
He's talking about indoors here. Yeah, you know it's a
home game.
Speaker 5 (50:07):
Yeah, it's just because Miami when they play anywhere outdoors
and cold weather, they suck.
Speaker 4 (50:12):
They'll be playing here, so there won't be any moon
over it. No, no, moon's over Miami. There you go?
Is that a Denny's right over Mymi? Yeah? Hey, ten
toes behind you? Cuz ten toes down?
Speaker 2 (50:22):
Cap?
Speaker 4 (50:22):
Cap?
Speaker 5 (50:23):
Yeah, cap, throw the cap in there. Still stepping, Yeah,
Joe Mixon is my favorite. Don't worry about it, pimp.
We're gonna step for you on me.
Speaker 4 (50:36):
Yeah. He uh you know what. That's a beast. He ain't. Man,
that's the truest one of them all. But it's almost
like I got you. You put this load on me.
I'm gonna take care of it, man. Yeah. Pause, Yeah, yeah,
I guess that's right. I guess so. I guess so.
(51:03):
And you can't hell Newver to the point where you say, oh,
I'm carrying a load, aren't we? All? I mean, yeah,
put this load on? Yeah? Okay, yeah, true, man, I
know Joe will shoulder a pressure. Let's put it that way.
(51:23):
About say he shoulder the load. Shoulder the load better
there than there.
Speaker 5 (51:28):
Okay, oh my gosh, oh we got to get to
the steak out next right here on Sports Talk seven ninety,
The Houston Sports World.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
Yeah, Sean Salisbury knows how to play the game because
he really played the game. Yeah, former pro QB right here,
He actually has it on his name tag former pro QB.
Right here. Back to Sean on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (52:04):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 2 (52:07):
The Salisbury's takeout sALS berrief takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (52:19):
It's time for the stake out here on the Seawan

one four three three seven one three two two five
sevenineties and a number to join here on Sports Talk
(52:41):
seven ninety, The Shawn Salisbury Show. Got a couple guys,
that have been waiting on hold. It's doctor Roger. First, Roger,
welcome in.
Speaker 2 (52:47):
Good morning fellas.
Speaker 4 (52:49):
Uh so, my my, my observation.
Speaker 10 (52:51):
It's just a strictly observation. It doesn't mean it's bad
or good. I just thought it was just odd.
Speaker 15 (52:56):
Did consideratis reaction to the suspension was a lot more
the head coach of the defensive guy. No, I know,
he can't you know, blow his top in front of
the public or anything. But I just find it weird
that uh Caseerrio's a little more fired than in the head.
Speaker 10 (53:13):
Coach on this and I don't need it equally good,
I'm for sure.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
I just thought it was weird.
Speaker 15 (53:19):
And yeah, that that face lighting with the Allen and
and uh and my hoops, dude, Yeah, that's you know,
that's you know, and that's got to be dealt with
because you know, the feet first slide is anyway.
Speaker 10 (53:34):
But yeah, I just think it should be taken out
of it, out of it going for us.
Speaker 4 (53:39):
Thank you, Roger. Let's talk to Marty. Marty, good morning, Hey,
good morning.
Speaker 16 (53:45):
Hey, listen.
Speaker 14 (53:46):
I mean, I've never I don't I've never really heard
of suspension being uh being spoken aloud or anything like that.
I don't know the normal Burbius that that that that's you.
But but but it seems to me that Running personally
attacked Algie Schier. And I accused me if I'm missing
(54:09):
out in his name, but he personally attacked him of
his character, his intentions, the whole nine yards. And when
I've looked at that tape several times, Uh yeah, Trevor
Lawrence could have slid a whole lot sooner. Okay, but
you know, the in the defense and I played defense man.
Speaker 6 (54:30):
You just want to knock the guy.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
You wanna.
Speaker 14 (54:32):
You don't want to hurt him, but you wanna you
want to punish him a little bit, you know. And
I mean until he got the first day, I guess
I can't promise it. He thought he had the first down,
you know, before he slid, but that's what he wanted.
And I just I don't know how you can punish
a guy three games. But let me tell you something
(54:53):
real quick, and I know you guys got to go.
The Migo really didn't engender any type of sympathy for
the guy from the from the league when he backed him.
Speaker 10 (55:01):
Up before the decision was made.
Speaker 14 (55:04):
And and you know, so you got a young player,
young coach. You know, man, it's just a lot of
lessons to be lined here.
Speaker 4 (55:15):
Thank you, Marty.
Speaker 5 (55:16):
Yeah, we we addressed, excuse me, over the last couple
of days, the stuff that Runyon said about as he's
a share and you both had Nick Serio sticking up
for as he's and of course Dimika Ryans as well.
Speaker 4 (55:32):
Seven one seven John, what's happening?
Speaker 17 (55:36):
It was done on Fellaws, was done on Hey.
Speaker 4 (55:39):
I know, Sean, remember this, Sean.
Speaker 14 (55:40):
We had a player here, git hard like that man
with Robert.
Speaker 4 (55:44):
Bazia, and what one a player he was, man, good, gracious, man, hard,
nasty on the field. That dude was as physical as
we've ever had played the position. Oh man.
Speaker 17 (55:59):
But you know, in a way, uh, I think a
little bit about the Texas. I think, like we said,
like I said last week, that the way toll they
success is running the football through Joe Mixing, And I think, uh,
I think that they're gonna have to he's gonna have
to be the face of I'm gonna get your get
(56:19):
your thought on it, y'all.
Speaker 12 (56:20):
But I think he.
Speaker 6 (56:22):
Going far.
Speaker 17 (56:24):
This year, this particularly year, it's all about the running back, man,
because I know, I know CJ's do his thing, but
I think that he got Joe's got to test that
ball at least at least twenty five twenty to twenty
five times, either by play action, running from the from
the you know, from the backfield, in order for them
(56:46):
to be successful.
Speaker 4 (56:47):
And I hang up a listening, y'all guys, have a good,
good day. Appreciate it. John, excuse me I I.
Speaker 10 (56:56):
Did.
Speaker 4 (56:56):
If they're gonna get where they're going, Mixing is gonna
take him there. And now you're gonna have to have
CJ playing well and not missing throws and receivers. Obvious,
it's not just gonna one. But I can tell you
where they're not going. If Mixing isn't dominating games, they're not.
They're not getting anywhere through January, and they'll have a
hell of a time getting through the next four games.
That that is. That is the bell Cow. I think
(57:18):
he's the offensive MVP of this team. I do, and
I think that he is attitude alone on the offense
side the ball, his threat alone. I think he's been
one of the great additions in the offseason and he
brings If you want to know how you're supposed to play,
watch him yeah, and he just he plays it and
they're gonna have to lean on him. But even if
(57:40):
they lean on him, there's gonna have to be a
lot of other things done these next three games, and
it's gonna you're gonna have to do it compact and
get it done. And some guys are gonna have to
play outside themselves. Man, they just are.
Speaker 13 (57:50):
I know.
Speaker 4 (57:50):
I'll put it this way. Do you have any ounce
of questioning in your mind that mix is gonna gonna
show up. No, I don't have any questions about that.
And post No, he's posting the name they are posting,
I assure you. Yeah. And so we'll see how the
rest of it happens. But the depth is a problem
on defense attitude. But as we say in the oldest
(58:13):
cliche on the planet is next man up, right, Well,
next man up is gonna have to play with a
lot of intensity and the offense is going to have
to take some burden off the defense. They just are, Yeah,
especially without Aushai Ere It's and it's just they haven't
done enough of that this year offensively. No, And it
starts with the offensive line.
Speaker 5 (58:32):
Man seven one three seven ninety Dennis, welcome in, Hey,
good morning, fellas.
Speaker 4 (58:38):
I got a question for you about this tells your thing.
Speaker 8 (58:41):
I felt like he had plenty of time and not
to drive the forearm into Lawrence, but he could have
maybe pointed the uh, the forearm. But what cracks me
up is Becauseio is out there crying and complain and
his opinion means a grain or sawt to me with
his the way he's acting the past, with trying to
feed us uh David Cullen and Romeo Grizelle as the
(59:02):
coaches of the future, and you know all that nonsense,
and then correct me if I'm ron Sean. Wasn't John
Runyon a complete.
Speaker 6 (59:11):
Cheap artist guy when he was playing offensive.
Speaker 8 (59:13):
Line with low shots below the film and poking guy's
eyes out. How is he going to talk about another player?
Speaker 6 (59:19):
I'll hang up.
Speaker 4 (59:21):
Well, yeah, we've we've documented that pretty well on this
show that it. Runyon is a he was voted here
dirtiest player.
Speaker 5 (59:28):
He was voted dirtiest player by players two years in
his career.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
Right, but it's still he's got a different job. We
can't judge his post job by his current job. Maybe
he learned a valuable lesson and how to cheat and
to be able to watch it and how to be
a cheap shot guy. And John he earned that award
when he was there, But it doesn't mean he can't
do his job now. Matter of fact, he probably has
pretty good insight on what a what a cheap shot is. Yeah,
(59:52):
but yeah, as far as I think you were talking about,
Romeo Crenell is who he was talking about. I can't
reme Rember what credo? Yeah, I don't know. And then
Jesus I but I got his point. But yes, John Runyon.
And the reason why he can say that is because
that's he's in a job title that allows him to it.
Speaker 12 (01:00:14):
But he was.
Speaker 4 (01:00:14):
Yeah, John went through some of the cheap shots himself.
It was it was Dam's ull call appreciate it. It
was David culleyan Lovey Smith, not Romeo Crenell. Core Crenell
has been here on the past though. Well I know,
but you don't have the two head coaches at Yeah. Absolutely, yeah,
and you know Jack Easterby was there as well. You
just couldn't resist getting Jack mentioned and could you in there?
(01:00:34):
Do you think he knows Jack? See there? Oh you
don't know Jack? Well I do too. It's jackass to
be a game. You don't know Jack when not a
TV show or a game or something not that I know.
Hold on, it's a phrase. I mean you don't know Jack.
I don't sure. I don't know Jack. Game.
Speaker 5 (01:00:52):
Yeah, I was a gay I thought, So you don't
know Jack. Yeah, the bald guy. It was a PC game.
That's right, man, damn throwing it back?
Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
Dog. I don't know anything about a dog. Yeah, you
don't know Jack. And it was a bald guy, you know. Yeah,
I don't know Jack. You don't know Jack. I don't
know anything about Jack. Romeo crescendo? Man, why are you dogs?
Did you call it robo crescendo?
Speaker 2 (01:01:16):
What is?
Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
That's not? What he called him? Alex Bergman? We figured
out if him and what's her name? It's really good
to hurt when Bergman wakes up somewhere and he signed
somewhere else and we're like, oh my god, Boston. Will
it happen before Al Shier gets back? What happens? First?
Al Shire's playing linebacker or Alex what do you call him? Berman?
(01:01:39):
Alex Bergman is signing, has signed a new deal with somebody?
Speaker 13 (01:01:43):
What?
Speaker 14 (01:01:44):
What?
Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
What will happen? First?
Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
Let's see so the Texans that game. What's the last
game that's on Christmas? That before he gets that'll be
the last twenty fifth? Yeah, so winter meetings are what
next week? Uh, I'm must say he signs. I'm gonna
say he signs too. I think it happens before Christmas,
to the way that I don't think he goes into
(01:02:06):
the new year without a contract.
Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
Yeah, the way that Scott borats Uh going to everybody's name.
I'm gonna butcher everybody's name today. But he's right about running.
But what we can't do is we cannot I mean,
we can criticize and have fun with it all we want.
But just because he was a player that with cheap
shot artists on the field doesn't mean he doesn't know
how to judge cheap cheap shot artists.
Speaker 18 (01:02:30):
Cheap too, cheap shot that too whatever? Whatever, Okay, maybe
that's a better.
Speaker 4 (01:02:41):
Word for it. Can you imagine your labels down the
field as a defensive player. Oh well, I've lost it. No,
you've lost it because you're fire man that you talk
about a load and I didn't be a sheep shark man. Hey,
(01:03:05):
what I meant to say was, honey, could you pass
the sugar, but came out with you you you dumb ass.
Speaker 5 (01:03:11):
You ruined my life. Oh I hope Romeo Crescendo is
doing well this morning. Let's kill the Brank tripley. Get
us out of here.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
We're fat. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
How do you do it again? We got you dogs
still stepping? How do you do.
Speaker 6 (01:03:36):
It's rain Man.
Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
We think Paul Bunyan's I mean, John Runyon is doing
right now, spending somebody probably probably there you go. So
you think Alex Bergman is going to sign before al
Shire comes back? Al Jaira, yeah, yeah, a geez al Shire?
Speaker 4 (01:04:02):
No A right, No, you're going the butcher, You're you're
your butcher in the names, right, Yeah, I'm going. Alex
Bregman does sign in the next three weeks. I don't
know where, but signed to the.
Speaker 5 (01:04:12):
Next What are you gonna do as a bosson Red
Sox fan if they get won? So apparently there's the
word on the street is he's told some of his friends.
Speaker 4 (01:04:24):
This is word on the street. Yeah, you want to,
you want to, You're gonna give your sources up. We're
just gonna keep it.
Speaker 13 (01:04:29):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
Apparently, okay, he's gonna sign with the Boston Red Sox.
What am I gonna do? Well, I'm gonna be bummed
that he's not here, and then my next set of
jubilation will be at least he went to my life.
Speaker 5 (01:04:43):
Look, yeah, yeah, you know how you get pumped for
the NBA Emirates Cup. That's how pumped you are.
Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
It will be a lot more if he's gonna leave here,
there's only one place i'd love him to go.
Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
No, I'm talking about if they get won. So oh
you're talking about yeah, yeah, dude, the Red Sox, they
get one.
Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
I thought you were talking about people on the street, say,
like people close to you were talking about Alex Bregman.
He said Sodo and then he said, well, what do
you think about Breadth?
Speaker 6 (01:05:05):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
Sorry, yeah, yeah. If Sodo goes there, well of course
it ain't my money. Okay, I'm all in. And if
and if Bregman decided that he wanted to go play
there too, If he's going to leave here, well then
if my feelings will be you know, at first they'll
be like, oh man, we lost him. Oh he's going
to playing Fenway.
Speaker 5 (01:05:25):
Okay, do you think that we could be watching the
Astros window close faster than what we think.
Speaker 4 (01:05:35):
Window. Okay, well, when are we talking about World Series
window losing? You're so basically saying if Bregman, you know,
I don't expect Verlander back unless Jim Crane wants him
back at inexpensive price right where Kakuchi's already gone. So
you're saying, if Alex Bregman leaves, is the window is
it slam shut, closed or almost closed? What was closing?
(01:05:56):
Just closing not slamming show You can't. You can't lose
a player like that and all unless you replaced him
with a guy as good as him. If you told me, oh,
we lost Bregman all of a sudden, Raphael Devers is
playing here, I'll say you lost something on defense, but
you gain something offensively, would I? I'd say okay. But
if you're saying I always marvel at people when they say, oh, yeah,
(01:06:19):
it's okay if he leaves in the prime of their career. No,
you're not better. If Alex Bregman leaves, You're just not
unless you pray it replace it with somebody who's equal
great and then also brings the clubhouse, posacity, brings with
this team all those things. No, you're not better, and
of course will when you know how when you close
them and say, well, let's I'm gonna close a little more.
I want a little air coming in right. Yeah, yeah,
of course it does. Now you lose one if you go. Now,
(01:06:42):
if all of a sudden you got let's just say,
for fun, you got Pete Alonzo. I'm just throwing that
out there. Okay, I robbed Peter and now I paid Paul. Okay,
I'll deal with that. I you know, I offset one
with the other. Happens all the time in sports. But
you can't keep losing guys, and if you don't replace
him with something of equal or greater value, then yes,
the window starts to slide. Ask the Seahawks how that feels. Yeah,
(01:07:04):
asked the New England Patriots. It just it happens, and
this team is not going to be immune to it.
And they don't have the strongest minor league system. Now,
they develop players great, but they just don't have the
strength and the numbers that they used to have for
obvious reasons. So yes, of course they get weaker. But
that means the guy in right field's got to play
and stay healthy and be here longer and play great
(01:07:26):
in the postseason. It means that Al Tuvey's got to
continue to do Hall of Fame things. It means that
the pain has got to do more in the regular season.
It may they just do. And it means whoever plays
first base better be a stud. So yeah, so the window,
if you're asking me if it's closed, absolutely not. If
you're asking me if you went to the because you're
(01:07:47):
complaining it's a little cold and closed it a little bit, sure,
Hell yeah you well, Breckman, if he's gone to Kakuchi,
you just weakened your team by a great player who's
been here through this run and your best pitcher the
last ten eleven games of the season. Yeah, the other
windows closes a bit. Is it slam shut? No, I
don't think we're anywhere near that. But I can tell
(01:08:10):
you this, it ain't all the way open without a
screen on it right now.
Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
No, I promise you that the one positive is the
pitching staff should be well, I'm not gonna say loaded,
but man, they should have a plethora of arms.
Speaker 4 (01:08:22):
Oh when fully healthy. Absolutely Now. The only concern is
how healthy will they be? How long? So kid's gone,
you'll have you're gone. Probably Verlander gone, I Tavier coming
back at some point next year. You're waiting for him
to do his thing right.
Speaker 5 (01:08:37):
And then you've got Lancer Colors Junior going to be
one hundred percent healthy. Garcia, I think Luis Garcia a
hundred percent healthy. What's JP Frantz gonna do? He should
be one hundred percent healthy. Then you've got, of course,
you've got Frommer, You've got oh my gosh, Arraghetty. You've
got Hunter Brown. Hunter Brown's gonna be your race.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:08:57):
Here.
Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
He'll open up the season as you started. But Hunter
Brown will be your stud you guy.
Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Yeah, yeah, And you got Eric Getty, who obviously pitched well,
You've got fully healthy.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
They can afford that they can overcome Kokuchi lost. They
can even although an arm from the left hand side
that does what he does would be nice and everything
you gave us, right, So yeah, that that that that
cumulative effect that need to get you right. Yeah, But
so no, the windows not slam shut at Bregman leaves.
But of course it closes a little because you lost
(01:09:26):
a key player. That's just the way it is. I mean,
that's that's for me. It's an easy answer. On the
other side, you asked me about if Soda goes to
the Red Sox. Dude, Come on now, Like I said,
I never get mad at how much money they spend.
It ain't mine, Yeah, go spend it. I was pissed
when they let bets go right. Well, so now you're looking, oh,
we need another m VP and right field. Yeah, no kidding.
Well if you if you're willing to pay him six
(01:09:48):
hundred and fifty million, you'll probably get one. He'd look
great in a Red Sox uniform. And then then oh yes,
I'll go get my second jersey of all time. You
get one? Uh yeah, well because I got a Padre
All Star jersey. I was I think I got a
is it? I got a Chris Sale All Star Games.
That's pretty sweet? Yeah yeah, and now this was pre
cy young stuff right right, and then and I just
(01:10:08):
did just I don't even know if I've ever worn it,
and buy him for kids and stuff. And but yes,
that that you'll get the oversized wear a shirt underneath it.
Juan Soto jersey, which is what number twenty two? I
think he's twenty to two. Yeah, if Sodo ends up
in a Red Sox uniform, you can bet your sweet
ass that I will have SODO gear and I'm not
(01:10:29):
a jersey wearing guy. You want to get you a
Jason Tatum jersey? You wear it in here with no
sleeves underneath. Yeah, I like to tell you, yeah, well yeah, yeah,
I one jersey and be like and never have a tan,
like really really milky, like pasty and then like an
armpit hair going everywhere and maybe chest hair and with
no shirt on underneath the jersey. Oh yeah, it's really hot. Man,
while you're at it, don't put the odor in all either.
(01:10:50):
That really make your Horny's that Jason Tatum triple what
he was mimicking all the BS. No, don't hate on
Tatum now, man, No, that's the worst. The worst look
on the planet is a basketball jersey with no T
shirt on underneath.
Speaker 5 (01:11:06):
As a fan city, you're offending the beach community. Again,
I guess a game.
Speaker 4 (01:11:11):
That's a game. Don't do it. I'm not talking about it,
I'm talking about the jersey. Yeah, at a game, at
a basketball you're wearing the jersey with nothing on underneath
it in your because sitting at a bar or sitting
with your buddy with no like T shirt. It's a
bad look.
Speaker 5 (01:11:22):
And honestly, don't wear a jersey if you're gonna wear it.
I hate to say this, but if you're gonna wear
a jersey to a game, don't wear it with just
a T shirt under it.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
Don't wear with no T shirt.
Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
Wear something long sleeve, or wear a damn hood like
a long sleeve thin hood a thin hoodie.
Speaker 4 (01:11:36):
Right, and also don't tuck it in. No, God, there
is nothing worse. Hear me out here, There is nothing worse.
Speaker 5 (01:11:42):
And I've seen it in this city entirely too much
because of the oil and gas uh industry that's here.
Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
Fellas.
Speaker 5 (01:11:50):
If you are high up in an oil company, or
if you're just in sales or whatever you're doing, and
you get tickets because your company gets you gets you
some tickets, and you're you're sitting in the in the
like core side or lower bowl, and you're coming straight
from the office, and you're still in your dress attire,
meaning your your business pants and your and your your
button down shirt. Don't put a jersey on over your
(01:12:11):
button down shirt and tuck it into your dress.
Speaker 4 (01:12:13):
Pants and with the tie still on, yes, and don't
you look like a jet in pull your dress pants
up to your jest. Don't, don't, don't stop. I see
it way too much.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
If you want to look if you got to leave
straight from the office and you want to go buy
a jersey and throw it over with your dress pants on, Okay,
I get it right.
Speaker 4 (01:12:27):
Ever, tuck the jersey. Tuck the jersey unless you're a
player right on the court right, otherwise leave it untucked, please,
good God. And usually when you tuck it in and
then they tuck it in too far where there's no
you've tuck it way down the Yeah, what are we doing?
Just let it on? Tucks of the lovees, don't show. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:12:44):
But also I have worn like when I was in
Cobbo in March, I wore my opera and shen Gud
jersey to the pool.
Speaker 4 (01:12:49):
That's fine because it's outdoors. You're gonna take it off
and get in the water. To a game, at least
put a T shirt on it. Don't, don't, don't ever
tuck it in. But I'll take a T shirt over
bare skin.
Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
Sure, don't bear skin me. No at a game with
the jersey. You're on fire for these last three Yeah, don't, don't,
don't bear skin me. You've gone from Yeah, well, no,

Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
Let's talk to Holly. Holly, welcome in. Good morning, Good
morning guys.
Speaker 11 (01:16:43):
How's it going. I always wanted to touch base with
you guys. You mentioned at the end of the show yesterday,
Brian about the college football bracket that's going on to
playoffs and not just with works and stuff. Have been
so busy, I haven't had a time to check into it.
But did I hear you right that if Texas wins Saturday,
they play the winner of Georgia Indiana.
Speaker 5 (01:17:01):
So it's the projected bracket after week fifteen. Yeah, they
would have the way it is right now. You would
have Texas as the two seed. They would start in
the quarterfinals and they would take on the winner of
Indiana and Georgia. Now, things obviously could shake up, could
move around a little bit, but this is just the projection.
Speaker 4 (01:17:18):
So that would be their matchup.
Speaker 11 (01:17:19):
Yes, wow, two in a row. Oh wow, that'd be great.
But I don't know how I feel about that. But
I was just one to tick you guys to elaborate
on that on what you thought about the projected back bracket.
And y'all have a good day.
Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
Thank you, Holly, appreciate the call.
Speaker 5 (01:17:35):
Yeah, we're going to talk a little college football as
we get to the eight o'clock hour, Sean. But the
projected bracket obviously just a projection, but man, there's just
so much to be made about. You know, some of
these teams that have games this coming weekend, some teams
that don't that are going to stay put, some could move.
You got to make you know, if Indiana gets into
the playoff, which they they will because they're not playing
(01:17:56):
in the Big Ten title game. But then you got
SMU who's playing in the AEC Tide game. But if
they lose, there's a chance they get knocked out of
the twelve. What's the benefit? You know, it's here's the
thing that bugs me. That's a lot going You get
punished for winning the conference because if they lose, they
have a better chance of doing with the Ohio States
and what Indiana's are doing not playing yeah, not playing right?
Speaker 4 (01:18:15):
Because with that, he's like, oh, you're on automatic in
right by going and putting your ass on the line
and winning a conference championship or playing for it against Clemson.
If you do lose, there is the chance you can
go from Listen, if you didn't think there's a chance
to go from eight to out of the top twelve,
ask Miami how that feels.
Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
Where were they at before this game they dropped. They
dropped six spots. So yeah, they're six to twelve. Yeah,
six to twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:18:38):
Okay, So if Sam and who's got in the annals
of time? Who who's who's got more uh name name value?
Probably Miami's Miami the Canes, right, yes, and and well
that doesn't matter. Unfortunately it does for some. But if
you can go from six to twelve, you can sure
(01:19:01):
as hell go from eight to twelve or eight tout
out of the twelve. Now, I'm hoping even if SMU,
if it's a close game, SMU stays in it because
I think they've damn well earned it. But think about this,
there's a chance that they'll be punished for playing being
good enough to get to the conference championship getting if
they get beat by Clemson twenty four to twenty one.
And there is a chance, when you get thirteen people
(01:19:23):
voting on this, there is a chance that they could
very well find themselves on the outside. All right, what
do you think? I'm gonna give you a scenario? Where's
ole miss at Ole Miss? Right now is number thirteen,
SMU gets beat by two touchdowns, everybody moves up a
(01:19:46):
slot right, Yep, so you there is a chance at
a three loss. Now, if you're the committee, think about
this for a second. You love Lane Kiffin got some pull, right,
I mean, talk about it. You got Jackson Dart going
into the season, they were a top ten team all that.
(01:20:07):
So you get beat by two touchdown. Let's say you're
down seven and all of a sudden the club Nick
throws a touchdown in the fourth quarter. You lose by fourteen,
an ole Miss just sitting there where they are, and
you decide, well, man, SMU, tough loss against ACC team,
let's drop them out. Everybody moves up. Guess who's going
(01:20:31):
to move into twelve.
Speaker 5 (01:20:33):
Yeah, that'd be a ole Miss. So then you would
have two three loss teams in the playoff. To me,
of course it is, but you don't think it's real.
Speaker 4 (01:20:41):
Oh it's one hundred percent real. And if you're SMU
and you say, you know what, we'll pass on the
conference championship, now the committee would punish him for that.
But imagine if you just said we like this, we
didn't play in the conference championship, they're staying in. Yeah. Now,
now something's wrong with that system exactly.
Speaker 12 (01:21:00):
Now.
Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
I like this. I like the twelve teams that I
like the banter we knew. Listen for the fifteen complaints.
Twelve thirteen, fourteen to fifteen are going to complain and
conference is sc Well, we're SEC we're better than the
you know, we're better than the ACCRE. You're going to
get all that, but think about what could happen, and
you tell me if they're making a decision, it comes
right down to the pizazz of ole miss or SMU.
(01:21:22):
Not that I mean, I'm gonna say in my decision
it will be in question if they lose this football
game punished for being in the conference championship. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:21:31):
Yeah, Let's let's continue to talk about that college football
playoff and the flaws that we've already seen.
Speaker 4 (01:21:35):
With the new twelve teams set up. That's next.

football here on the Sean Salisbury Show. Obviously, the rankings
have been updated. SMU coming in at number eight. They
will play in the ACC title game against Clemson. Clemson
down at number seventeen. But if they win, they are
in the playoff. But if SMU loses, there's a potential
(01:25:29):
that they could fall out of the top twelve. And
it just doesn't make sense on why you would play
in a conference title game. What's the benefit? Seawan, there
is no benefit when it comes to playoffs. But what
team would have the guts money call they they're not
(01:25:49):
gonna have the guts to do.
Speaker 4 (01:25:50):
What team would have the guts say we're not playing it,
because then the committee would come out you and say,
well we're not putting you in then, right, But it
is weird that you benefit fit from not playing. Siatta
sing on the plane. It's weird. It's weird.
Speaker 5 (01:26:08):
Ohio State coming in at number six. They're not playing
in the Big Ten title game because they lost to Michigan.
Dropped four spots down at number six. They're in Tennessee,
not playing in the SEC championship game. They're in Indiana
not playing in the Big Ten.
Speaker 9 (01:26:28):
They're in.
Speaker 4 (01:26:30):
Alabama, the Miami Alabama in as of right now.
Speaker 5 (01:26:38):
And then if if sm let's say, like you said,
let's say, let's say SMU loses drops out, then you're
gonna have a potential of Ole Miss or South Carolina
even getting in.
Speaker 4 (01:26:49):
And the truth of the matter is, right now, South
Carolina should get in ahead of Old Miss. I agree
they should. They're playing better football.
Speaker 5 (01:26:57):
Arizona State, Iowa State ones of fifteen one a six
team if they win whoever wins that championship game, because
they're both playing in the Big twelve title game that
they're going to be in.
Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
I'll be honest with you, on the outside looking in
of teams, all the teams in the country that I'd
want to see that are on the outside looking in,
it is South Carolina. Yeah. Same, a dynamic quarterback who
is a friggin's I mean, I'm talking about a football
playing jesse and a defensive front that doesn't take a
back seat to anybody their fronts on the planet, meaning
(01:27:26):
in college football they are. And I'm not so sure
that if that does happen, one of those teams that
are in like from like eight to you know that
that is playing that. If somebody were to drop out that,
I'm not so sure that Carolina South Carolina wouldn't jump
All Miss and get in. I think they're well, is
(01:27:46):
there a hotter team in college football right now? No,
with the way they're playing, and don't they got they
got the elements you need, well coached, hell of a
quarterback and a and a explosive front seven. That's one
of those too. My guess is if SMU gets beat
by double digits, if they were to lose, I think
you can beat Clemson. I do, But if they were
(01:28:08):
to I think the committee is going to have a
difficult time not putting South Carolina or All Miss in
in the twelve hole.
Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
I think it'll be an absolute joke. If Alabama gets
in at three losses, they're not that good they're getting in.
I know that they're getting in.
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
There, and they're not that they have not been playing
good football. But right they're sitting there and they're not
playing a game.
Speaker 5 (01:28:28):
And I get it's a brand, it's a brand. One
hundred cent while they're getting three losses should not get
you in. I'm sorry, but the way South Carolina is playing. Yeah,
that would be a shame if they didn't. Their defense
is nasty.
Speaker 4 (01:28:38):
Oh my god. And now I'm telling you what their
quarterback line them all up. He's in the team picture.
I'm of all the twelve, the twelve teams that are
playing right now. If it ended right now, we had
the twelve set. That dude can jump right to the
top of the line too. He can play with he
can play with with Dylan Gabriel, he can play with
(01:29:00):
any Will Howard. He's as good as any of them.
That kid is a monster talent and they are their defense.
Listen when I tell you that their defense is right now,
give gives the front seven of Texas and Georgia go.
You understand what I'm saying that South Carolinas they have done.
They are building something there.
Speaker 13 (01:29:20):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:29:20):
I'm just telling you, and I would love to see
them in the tournament because I want to see where
they could go with this thing. But if SMU takes
care of their business, where's Clemson rank right now? Sixteen?
Here's another here's another problem. You may still not get
old miss or Carolina. And I'm gonna tell you why.
(01:29:43):
Because if Clemson wins, they're an automatic bid, right, and
if SMU gets pushed out and everything stands pat if
you're in the first say let's say the first half
of this, you're not whether you played or you're in. Okay,
So who's number seven Tennessee? They're not playing, they're not
(01:30:05):
falling out by not playing, so they're in. Who's at
eight SMU, right, So it's SMU eight is nine playing
Boise State ten. So in truth, two teams that could
fall out Boise State I'm talking about that are playing right,
Boise State and SMU and Clemson. But Clemson's not in
(01:30:28):
the top twelve. Clemson wins, they're in right, and would
people well, they're still they they won, but they you
could even make the argument if they won, well, if
they moved up a couple of slots, would you keep
them to But they're an automatic bit so they're in,
which means that SMU and if Boise State got beat
by UNLV, they're out yep. So the truth of the
(01:30:53):
matter is miracles have to happen for OS far South
Carolina and Ole miss to get in. Yes, and if
SMU beats Clemson, where you've cleared that one out and.
Speaker 5 (01:31:03):
Then also Arizona State and Iowa stating now fifteen and sixteen,
whoever wins that game, So.
Speaker 4 (01:31:08):
That's still I'll tell you who that is. Still effects
that still possibly affects who Alabama, Yep, still affects Miami Hurricames.
I think it affects Indiana. Yeah, I do. I think
it affects Indiana. So there are we say, well, these
the most of the inn but the first six you're in.
All that toggling around that goes on the Arizona State,
(01:31:29):
Iowa State guaranteed in the winner of the SMU Clemson
game guaranteed in. SMU still with a chance to get
in if in fact, okay, let's say this, what if
SMU loses to Clemson by a field goal, they should
be in. Okay, that would be their loss, and they
played in the ACC Championship, So then that would mean
in yours, assuming I assuming that's just okay, So Arizona
(01:31:52):
State wins, they're in. Yes, SMU wins our SMU loses
to Clemson, Clemson's in. But it's a thirty one thirty
one thirty walk off field goal. Yeah, and that's the second.
That's SMU second loss, right against a team that's in
the acc toitle and wins it. Yes, if you're Alabama,
(01:32:16):
if you're Indiana, if you're I don't see how you
can move Aniana out of it. But if you're Alabama
or Miami, are you nervous that SMU still stays and
you're pushed out?
Speaker 5 (01:32:29):
Alabama should be pushed out? Well, Miami has a better argument, yeah,
but but the problem is Alabama and Miami are not playing.
You're not pushing Alabama out before Miami because you've already
voted my Alabama ahead of Miami.
Speaker 10 (01:32:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
So it's really if you're pushing one out, it ain't
gonna be Alabama because Alabama. There's no other way to
judge them. Yeah, because neither of playing right. I get
what you're saying that neither are those opponents. I think
let's see what did Clemson. What was the Clemson in
Miami score? Clemson put it this way, If in fact
Miami wins and Clemson heights, Clemson hasn't played, mind, that's exactly.
(01:33:03):
As a matter of fact, they skirted like two or
three teams right South Carolina fourteen. If if Miami wins,
if Miami wins US in a close one, the SMU
gave them a game and looked like they could win.
And you do keep SMU in, it ain't gonna be
Alabama that goes out. It will be Miami. Why because
they're sitting at twelve. And that's remember we said, well,
eleven or twelve, it's not that big a deal. But
(01:33:24):
if Clemson wins and SMU stays in and it's a
close game, it's a huge deal because Miami, if they
were eleven, Alabama would be the one getting shoved out. Yeah,
because neither one are playing in. The Committee's already told
you that Alabama, they have them ranked ahead of Miami. Now,
think if they would have put Miami eleven in Alabama
twelve and SMU loses thirty one to thirty and they
(01:33:45):
want to keep SMU in, Miami would stay in and
Alabama would be the team out of that where that
eleven and twelve is huge. That's where I go back
to what I asked you yesterday.
Speaker 5 (01:33:53):
How in the hell did they drop Miami six spots
in bump up Alabama two?
Speaker 4 (01:33:58):
Yeah? See, the thing is, even if they just said
when we're dropping Miami four spots, Miami would not be
in danger. More than likely of being out even with
a Clemson or SMU in or loss. Miami should not
be out with a loss anyway. Obviously Miami shouldn't have
fallen six spots, but that eleven or twelve spot, that's huge.
If SMU stays in with a great game but loses,
(01:34:18):
both Clemson and SMU stay in, the twelve seed is
out right, and that also eliminates Ole Miss in South Carolina.
They ain't jumping them over you. What are you gonna
do say all all of a sudden, We're gonna put
somebody ahead of Alabama that didn't play. Of course you're
not that. Last week's vote by the committee in eleven
and twelve could could be a huge for the Miami Hurricanes.
(01:34:42):
That could be and for Alabama to stay in.
Speaker 5 (01:34:45):
Shane Beamer, head coach of the University of South Carolina,
talked about the tough schedule that the committee doesn't care about.
Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
What did he say?
Speaker 5 (01:34:51):

hits right, Man, If I want a milkshake, dude on

Maybe a little I like a little cinnamon on top
(01:39:54):

a black coffee guy or a coffee guy at all?
Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:40:01):
I do not drink coffee. He just wakes up and
has energy dogs wakes up.
Speaker 12 (01:40:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:40:05):
See, I don't drink it that. I don't drink it
as often. I'm not. I'm not an everyday coffee guy
by any stretch. And I don't hate I mean, remember
the old school day, Give me a pot, a pot
of coffee. Sometimes we're going here and one of the
shows will take the big old canister. Yeah, take it

Awaken up is full juicy and yo hook up? Yeah? Yeah,

Speaker 5 (01:40:43):
See yeah, jingles dog yeah, triple you heard either of those? Yes,
I have okay?
Speaker 10 (01:40:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:40:48):
Sure, Well you know how I like my coffee? Now
I feel like you want me to. I really feel
like you want me to have some kind of BBW
joke right there or something. There was no joking intended.
I just said, now, do you know how I like
my coffee? But you've known it for a couple of years, right, Yeah?
If I said how do I like my coffee, you'd
say you like it black?
Speaker 6 (01:41:09):
Right?
Speaker 13 (01:41:09):
Ck?
Speaker 4 (01:41:09):
Yeah, I was just making it may once in a while,
just a little just a little pinch, huh. But I
just want to make sure you knew, right, So you
didn't bring me a milkshake at some point, I would
never bring you a milkshake. Yeah, I don't do the
milkshake thing. Yeah, gos, they got breakfast in there. If
you want something brecky pool. Yeah, you would Hey, what
did you sing? What I told you there? I should
have Okay, what was on the menu?
Speaker 5 (01:41:30):
So it's scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, and then like some
sliced tomato.
Speaker 4 (01:41:34):
Okay, So what should you have said? I should have
said waky waky eggs, and I should have said, hey,

good morning, thanks for holding me.
Speaker 10 (01:46:01):
Hey man, that's what that's a good deed y'all doing that. Man,
if I went to so tied up with all the
terrible givings, already gives shine.
Speaker 6 (01:46:09):
I jumped in on it.
Speaker 4 (01:46:12):
We appreciate you, brother.
Speaker 10 (01:46:14):
Hey man, Hey, I'm a no coffee, no team, uh,
but I do like my women dark shine.
Speaker 4 (01:46:23):
Yeah, I understand why you like your coffee like you
like your lady.
Speaker 12 (01:46:27):
I get it.
Speaker 4 (01:46:27):
Yeah, you know, I get it.
Speaker 12 (01:46:28):
They say black of the black.
Speaker 6 (01:46:31):
Juice.
Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
That's hey man, I live by that motto every day biscuit. Yeah. Yeah,
So he basically he likes his coffee like he likes
his women. Black here you god, I.
Speaker 10 (01:46:43):
Had a little brown sugar this morning on my.
Speaker 12 (01:46:45):
Way out to shine.
Speaker 4 (01:46:47):
Yet guarantass tea. It wasn't coffee. When you're talking about
brown sugar, my man brand.
Speaker 10 (01:46:55):
And that's the breakfast champ.
Speaker 4 (01:47:04):
Brian likes his coffee like he likes his women. It's
extra large, No, it's not what it is, but he'll
go for the trifecta slumbuster, you know.
Speaker 10 (01:47:24):
Shod Miami's out, man, They forget about it out of there.
Speaker 4 (01:47:28):
I mean, it's almost it's almost it's almost a foregone conclusion.
Because Clemson wins, it's going to force him out anyway,
right s m U wins.
Speaker 6 (01:47:37):
Well, well Miami is out because the big twelve winner
got to go in the twelve spot, right, So Miami's out.
Miami is going to play a game, so they can't
they they can't go up the out.
Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
Right, And that's why that's why last week, by putting
Alabama ahead of Miami, put Miami in a buying Now
Alabama is still in one, but with Arizona State, Iowa State,
that it's a guarantee. And if if Clemson apps, if
Clemson happens to beat SMU, but it's close and Clemson
State gets in automatically, and then if SMU sneaks in
(01:48:11):
with two losses, let's say it's thirty one thirty, then
Alabama becomes in trouble as well, no doubt.
Speaker 6 (01:48:16):
That's that's where the dilemma gonna be at john if
Clemson wins.
Speaker 4 (01:48:22):
Yep, because in a close game especially, but the committee.
Speaker 6 (01:48:26):
Also said they don't want to penalize teams for playing.
Speaker 10 (01:48:30):
An extra game.
Speaker 6 (01:48:31):
So okay, they say Georgia was the lose, you know,
they not then Georgia and my Alabama had the same record, right,
but they don't want to you know. So really, the
only thing is the limma's gonna be if Clemson happens
to win, what they gonna do between Alabama and SEMU.
Speaker 4 (01:48:48):
That's exactly. And depending on the score of the game,
if you're not gonna punish SMU with two losses, if
they get beat by Clemson and it's a close damn
good game, than Alabama and Miami both go home. And
obviously both Ole Miss and South Carolina got no shot,
right because they game.
Speaker 6 (01:49:09):
If you play a game, you got a chance to
go up, but you don't.
Speaker 4 (01:49:13):
You ain't moving unless it's the other way, right.
Speaker 6 (01:49:16):
So like say Georgia beats Texas, they can go up,
you know what I'm saying. But they not finna drop
Georgia out if they lose.
Speaker 10 (01:49:23):
Right, So that's the that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:49:25):
Anybody in the top anybody in the top six, seven
they lose, they're staying in top six for sure. That
doesn't matter, right.
Speaker 6 (01:49:33):
And the King in Miami helped out for me if
they helped out Mahoosias, so that kept that knocked the
Hoosiers off the bubble. You know what I'm saying. They
firmly in Now the loss, Husiers would have been in trouble.
But but what the what the committee also saying is Shane.
They saying, Man, listen, the SCC is so strong. We
think Missouri Sander built Uh South Carolina. If they was
(01:49:58):
in the ACC, they would have on it. They like,
now we're not fitting them. We're not fit to get
y'all though you know we don't maybe get y'all one,
maybe two, but y'all not fitn to get three. No,
no third, right, So that's that's what the that's the
problem with the ACC the SEC they like, Man, we
will take We'll take the fifteam out of secfore we
take the third team out of y'all.
Speaker 4 (01:50:19):
I was gonna say and think about this. If all this,
let's say SMU gets you know, if SMU wins in
different conversation, obviously, but if SMU gets beat let's say
by two touchdown. Let's say it's thirty to fourteen. For
the hell of it, right, let's say that happens. They're gonna,
They're gonna, they're they're gonna keep Alabama in. And you
and I both know it.
Speaker 6 (01:50:38):
I think so too.
Speaker 4 (01:50:39):
I think so too.
Speaker 6 (01:50:40):
Yep, I think SMU.
Speaker 10 (01:50:41):
They better.
Speaker 6 (01:50:43):
If I'm missing you, you better win the game.
Speaker 13 (01:50:45):
Man.
Speaker 10 (01:50:45):
I don't even even.
Speaker 6 (01:50:46):
If the keep up keep by film Shine as a possibility.
Speaker 4 (01:50:49):
That they'll push them out, no doubt about that. They
want that, They want that Alabama brand in there. So
the key is, yeah, close game, you got a big argument,
you win it. There is no argument, and you don't
like those thirteen people to make a decision that would
screw you over, so you got to go win it.
But it still exists, and so Alabama and Miami I
wouldn't get too comfortable because it is. There's no doubt
(01:51:10):
sm you can beat Clemson, and we obviously know that
Arizona State, Iowa State are in no matter what. So
and you're right about your Hoosiers with what happened in
Miami situation. Indiana, they they're there. They may fall a
spot or two if it happens, depending on what happens
in front of them, but they are not. They're they're
They're They're in, and it's gonna be a great story.
I love it. We're gonna have about three or four
(01:51:31):
of those this this time around with the top twelve.
You know whether it's Boise State gets in real, real
quick shot.
Speaker 6 (01:51:37):
And I didn't get a chance to sime in on Butson,
you you a union guy and I'm a union guy,
and only thing I would say, Lulin, if this was
baseball or basketball, you can't tell me that that suspension
wouldn't have been reduced. I don't know what kind of
union y'all got over this, because sign Listen and Casario
(01:51:58):
made the best arguments. If this dude was so egregious,
y'all should have been suspended him by now yep, and
how y'all gonna jump the three games and you ain't
never suspended him before.
Speaker 4 (01:52:08):
They didn't even stop. Yeah, they didn't even stop buy one,
you know, stop by and say let's visit one and
stay there and then the next time, I'll give him
three if it's anus. But they just jumped to three.
It sends a loud message. So now you're telling me
that some guy who may have had a personal foul
or two throughout the season or his career, if that
happens to let's say, let's say I don't know whoever,
(01:52:32):
if it happened to Michael Parsons. Okay, let's just use
Parsons for example. So you're telling me that if it's
same thing happened and it was a you know, Jalen Hurts,
did you better suspend Parsons for three games?
Speaker 14 (01:52:43):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:52:43):
That that better happened? That that's exactly where you set
that precedency. You you better follow through. The problem is
there's no uniformity. It's where's waldo one hundred percent? And
to answer your question about our union, Biscuit, I would
say it's one of the weaker unions we did did,
the NFL did. The NBA and baseball are far tighter
and closer and get more done than ours. And I
don't mean it disrespectful to the leadership of it, but
(01:53:05):
we get pushed around and kind of settle for stuff
a lot easier than the than the the baseball and
basketball do. And it's been it's been like that for
a long time.
Speaker 6 (01:53:15):
It's unbelievable, Sean, because you know, in a union, I'm
in an union, it's a progression, you know what I mean.
I get written up, then I get a verbal warning,
then I get a one day suspension, then I get
you know, you can't just jump for one like, ain't
even be kicked out of the game, right, suspicion.
Speaker 4 (01:53:32):
Right, unions, it's a process where you have you got
to hit every single point before. Okay, now we're at
the three game suspension. Do it another time you're gone
for six. I mean, yes, that's exactly right. And in
a union this would have warranted big fine normally on
the first defense, big fine, slap on the hand. Next
time it's one, then hey, if kids getting handus, dude,
you better be careful. It's going to get deeper and thicker.
(01:53:54):
So You're exactly right. The union quite frankly did a
little bit of failure. That they failed him a little bit,
don't you agree, No question, no doubt about it. Yeah,
the Chiefs got to fix that.
Speaker 6 (01:54:05):
U the fact that and the hits.
Speaker 10 (01:54:09):
Let's go to the hit.
Speaker 6 (01:54:10):
We've seen much Fisher hits.
Speaker 10 (01:54:12):
The problem was this guy got hurt on it.
Speaker 6 (01:54:15):
You know what I'm saying, It had it. Brady even
talked about he had his helmet knocked off, you know
what I mean, he jumped back up when played. The
fact that now he's in a concussion for protocol, that's
what's hurting.
Speaker 4 (01:54:28):
Yep. Mix that in with the shoulder situation and three
games and now that it went by it not even
an appeal because the Union would have fought even harder
for one of those too. It happened so fast, it's crazy, man.
You hit it square on the head man that the
Union's got to got to do better. Appreciate your brother,
great great stuff, Yep, enjoy have a great week. It's true.
(01:54:49):
And our union, I mean, when it comes to a
lot of things, dude, our union is lacking when it comes.
Speaker 5 (01:54:52):
To we just have been Yeah, dude, has never been
I got a lot of complaints for or ejected straight
to three games. Let's get it RAG become a monthly
dontor by pledge of just nineteen dollars a month to
help kids at Saint Jude fight cancer. One eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three One eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three. Again that's one
eight hundred five eight eight one four three three.
Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
Why you're back.
Speaker 4 (01:55:15):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. You're back at it.
Speaker 5 (01:55:20):
Nineteen dollars a month to help kids at Saint Jude
fight cancer. One eight hundred five eight eight one four
three three is the number to become a partner in Hope,
trying to get to twenty nine partners in Hope. By
nine am we have almost hit that goal. Still got
about nine minutes left before nine am to hit that goal.
Uh so far in two hours we have raised forty three,
(01:55:41):
nine hundred and fourteen dollars and we're still cruising. We
need to get go a tote board sponsored by k B.
All Right's get out to the phone lines. Doctor John, John,
what's happening?
Speaker 12 (01:55:50):
Yeah, hey man, Look looks John and Brown. See that's
what Nick was talking about about.
Speaker 10 (01:55:55):
No consistency.
Speaker 12 (01:55:57):
There's no way in the world that you should you
should have suspended one player from the Jaguars, if any,
you should have suspended Ingram, you know, because Ingram started
to may that that crap that John Runyon put up
there to paint a z like. He started to make Maye.
Oh hell no, he didn't start it, Ingram run out.
(01:56:19):
There was all on the man back. They were throwing punches.
You're gonna tell me from what I heard in the past,
when you come on the field and you're not playing
and you thw punches, that's deserving over suspension. I don't
get that, you know. And through this whole ordeal, I
never once heard the NFL say anything about if the
jag Wars players was at fault at all. I do
(01:56:43):
not appreciate this, and I do blame the players Union
because John, I remember a few years back when the
NFL was putting together this group of players or whatever
to decide on suspensions for players and all that kind
of stuff. The Players Union just gave in to that
(01:57:03):
completely completely. And through this ideal right here did we
hear them coming up and saying anything that John running
about you. You you're trying to paint our player like
he's a dirty player, you know. I mean, yeah, I
blame them.
Speaker 14 (01:57:19):
I do blame him.
Speaker 12 (01:57:20):
And then the next negotiation they need to do more
about having a voss in that room on suspending players.
But yeah, man, you know the blow would have been
softened a little bit more if you would have did
the bad team and suspended one of the Jaguars players.
You know, That's like I'm down the street, man and
(01:57:40):
I'm having a fight with a guy and four guys
them on me, but you just you just punish me
and take me to jail. You're not going to take
the rest of them to jail too, or at least one.
Speaker 4 (01:57:49):
He let me ask you, So let me ask you
a question real quick. John, put yourself on the on
I'm just just on the other side of the response
to them, and I understand what you're saying about somebody
else when the melee starts that. You know, normally you
get offsetting penalties when his penalties. But now with the suspension,
if you're on Jacksonville, John wants you to put you
to remove yourself as a Texans fan. If you're on Jacksonville,
(01:58:12):
do you or you're giving out suspensions. But Jacksonville, first,
are you jumping in to protect your player and fighting?
Speaker 12 (01:58:21):
Yes, I'm jumping in it and I'm doing it, but
it still does not change the rule. This happened years ago.
I don't remember what team where the same thing happened.
Players jumped out on the seat and stopped fighting, and
players on both sides got suspended.
Speaker 4 (01:58:36):
Now, yeah, yeah, that's the biggest problem. The biggest problem
is the inconsistency of the of the penalty is we
don't know from week to week or game to game,
or penalty to penalty. Uh that there's no uniformity to it. Okay,
you did this, here's the here's the penalty. You did this,
here's the penalty. This is well, you did this. We're
not sure the penalty, but we'll punish this guy more
(01:58:57):
than this guy. It's selective criticism and selective suspension. That's
the biggest problem. I agree with that.
Speaker 12 (01:59:02):
Yeah, yeah, John Running, you know for that crap that
he said, you know, if you're not going to stand
the Jaguar player, well, NFL put out put out something saying, well,
you know what the jag was did it?
Speaker 4 (01:59:14):
You know?
Speaker 12 (01:59:15):
Was and wasn't, wasn't correct. Either wasn't right and we
have talked to him about something.
Speaker 10 (01:59:20):
Man, what the jag was?
Speaker 6 (01:59:21):
Oh?
Speaker 12 (01:59:21):
They did everything right, everything just so wonderful. Nobody did
anything wrong over Dade.
Speaker 4 (01:59:27):
Good point, John, Thank you brother, appreciate your good insight.
I'm going to tell you another thing that bugs me
is I what I don't like about Runyon's letter. You
know to back to to Uh I'll share is you
do not reserve the right as your position. You you
suspend this particular thing. You can say that there's been
(01:59:48):
previous instances. He hasn't been kicked out, but previous instances
of whatever the word you use is over excessive, whatever
it is you want to use. You don't get the
right to challenge the guys character and say you're a
dirty player. Yeah, yeah, that that's not your job. That's
not your job for a mistake to all saidden. You
know that this is a lifetime sentence. That's that's Runyon's
there to look at this incident, look at is there
(02:00:09):
a history of it, and go from there. But to
make judgment on a guy's character I got a problem with.
And that's somewhere in there he did. I mean, was
there a little character. I mean there's a little character attack, right, yeah,
and so I got a problem with that. You treat
this incident and the history that goes with it, but
I don't think that you you know, you have a
lady not laying on a couch in your room, and
you know, some psychologists getting into the deep dives of
(02:00:30):
who he is. You you you got to treat the
incident as the incident. You know, you don't get to
make the judgment on what kind of character he is
in a locker room or that he's a dirty player.
Those are harsh words to use on an NFL player
because you get, you get tarnished when that happens.
Speaker 5 (02:00:45):
It's probably a guy that he's never even met. And
to put his question, you know what it was character
in question is you could.
Speaker 4 (02:00:51):
Take the play in question and you could put a
history of well you've done this and you've done that.
I get that. You just but don't report. Hey, don't
create a new You report it right, put there in
your report what the report says. You don't get to
create what kind of character he is or what his
history is as far as the deep dive into he's
a dirty player because of a hitter two or three
that you disagreed with. If he was that dirty, you
(02:01:14):
should have suspended him three other times.
Speaker 3 (02:01:16):
Right.
Speaker 4 (02:01:16):
If that's the case, he's never been suspended.
Speaker 5 (02:01:18):
Right, let's getting to the nine o'clock hour right here

start in order of longest wait. We will go to John,
then Richard, and then Reggie. John you're up first, Good morning.
Speaker 13 (02:03:48):
Hey, good morning guys. Hey ad a question?
Speaker 14 (02:03:51):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (02:03:52):
Going back to the union, how exactly do they vote
on instances like this?
Speaker 6 (02:03:58):
Is it like the majority vote? It has to be unanimous?
Speaker 13 (02:04:01):
And then also who has to say saying okay stay
three games bring it down to one?
Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
Well the people though, who has it? Uh? As far
as the decision was made by appointed by the NFL
and nfl PA to hear the appeal make his decision,
he made it. As far as if you're asking if
every n if all the players in the union have
a vote on should he appeal or should he be No?
(02:04:30):
There's union rep leaders and I don't know how the
the U when it comes to disciplinary action works on
the player union side, the representative do you have a
union rep? You have a team rep. And then we
have a union rep. I mean the guy who's a
president of the union, and then we have the players
union president, the big boss, right, and then we had
there's a player who represents them also. However, I would
(02:04:53):
imagine in the disciplinary park is a is a a
little bit of a committee or so. But I don't
think that a whole lot of players that are in
that union that they don't get any say on the
disciplinary part or should it go from three to one?
They recommend it. Maybe his union rep for the Texans,
I don't know who. I don't know who's the Texans
union rep. Do we even know? So whoever that is
(02:05:15):
works in accordance with the president of the union. That
goes to the head, the chief of the players union,
and they file the appeal and then they make the
decision and you don't get a second one. Once you
file the appeal. In the NFL, they make the decision.
You have to live with it. So but for instance C. J.
Stroud got no say in the appeal process or you know,
(02:05:37):
his linebacker made or the defensive coordinator, or they don't
have any say you complete your case in public and
do all that like Demko and Nick Cassio did, but
they're they're removed from that decision making, as would I
be as a union rep or a union member in
the nfl PA. But it's a very small group that
are making these decisions, not a big.
Speaker 13 (02:05:56):
One, okay, all right, yeah, because it's just you know,
I think that's the whole thing more than anything else,
you know, the arguing or it's just the three games.
Speaker 4 (02:06:07):
Yeah, let me.
Speaker 13 (02:06:09):
I think I think it's just like anybody else. We
expect to see it in the example you said, if
possins does.
Speaker 12 (02:06:14):
That to hurt, so we expect three games.
Speaker 4 (02:06:16):
Yeah, I mean it, that's the precedent you said. But
I doubt you'll see that. Why because they're inconsistency, which
if you do this, this would happens. You get suspended
one time, a second time. It could be three games.
I mean, they may label it that way in their
own bylaws, but they look at the suspensions in the
rhyme or reason for money. It sure doesn't seem to
fit where it's like you first time, this first time,
(02:06:39):
that second time, it's all over the map. Oh guy
doesn't get suspended before, but now gets three games, and
why didn't he get won? Where is this along as
a union? As you heard Biscuits say. And it's a
fact that in most unions, whether it's union, and if
you're a part of a union, you know this. Oh
you did this, Okay, now here's the next step. And
now here's the next step. And here's the next step.
And I'll do I do tell you this. When it
(02:07:00):
comes to big CBA, like when the collective bargaining's coming up,
or it's a big decision the union, your player rep
will come in and we will have a vote, I
don't know whatever that may be, and we'll vote, and
then they'll take it to the union meetings and here's
how we voted for this issue. Here's like when a
new CBA is coming up, what's the important Well, we
(02:07:20):
want better retirement, you want a free agency, and you
want this. And they'll go back and in your union
rep will go to those meetings and represent you whoever
that Texans Rep is or the you know, the Colts Rep.
Or the Titans rep is, and then they will go
and then they'll meet and that's the way it works.
But in this case, you don't get They don't call
the players in and get a vote. Hey, should al
(02:07:41):
Shaier get one game instead of three and across the league? No,
because you wouldn't have been able to get it all
in that fast and the rest of them. So it's
outside their decision making when it comes. That's a small
group that makes a decision on the disciplinary stuff.
Speaker 13 (02:07:53):
All right, guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (02:07:55):
Thank you John. Let's go to Richard. Richard, appreciate you. Holding.
Good morning, Good morning, guys.
Speaker 16 (02:08:02):
Just wanted to talk about al Shayer's defense. I am
a corporate litigator.
Speaker 20 (02:08:08):
I argue cases in front of jury's and I don't
know who.
Speaker 16 (02:08:13):
Was representing our guy before the league office, but they
are guilty of I will say, legal malpractice. That's got
to be the worst representation job that I have seen
as a third party. My guess is they went up.
Speaker 20 (02:08:30):
And they argued the hit. You don't argue the hit.
Speaker 16 (02:08:34):
You argue about al Shayer's character. You argue about his
absolutely clean record. If you are in a court in front.
Speaker 20 (02:08:43):
Of any judge and its first defense, you get.
Speaker 16 (02:08:47):
The benefit of the doubt. You know, we're talking about
al Shair. We're not talking about Montes Berfect. You know,
we're not talking about James Harrison or Andre dirty Waters.
You know, we're not talking about people that kind of
you know, list of previous you know, penalties and suspensions.
(02:09:08):
Alshaya got railroaded. It's just I don't know who represented him,
but that was one crap ass job and they should
go find something.
Speaker 4 (02:09:17):
Else to do.
Speaker 20 (02:09:18):
It was litigious, egregious, outrageous.
Speaker 4 (02:09:22):
And maybe even a bit frivolous, right, just a bit,
And I'll tell you in good point, Richard, good stuff.
He's obviously got a great feel for the law. Is
that I don't even think an attorney, the union rep
union attorney. But he doesn't. He didn't. He doesn't hire
a defense guy to you don't have time to now.
I am a certified mediator in the state of Texas.
(02:09:43):
I would see that's one where you'd like, okay, instead
of letting those guys decide the discipline all the time,
wouldn't it be great if you could add a mediator
that you could hear both sides and not be judgemente.
Obviously you don't play favorites and take a three hour
conference room and sit in and let a mediator decide.
(02:10:04):
I'll volunteer for that. While they volunteer, I won't get paid. Yeah,
but to be a mediator in one of those meetings
to so where you're an independent media where it's not well,
he got the NFL, because you know what people are
going to play for. They want to look the optics.
As a mediator, my job is not to play favorite,
independent and object. That's exactly. It doesn't matter what the case.
(02:10:25):
That's why when somebody's a mediator for like child protective Services,
it does that or family law right, family those are
hard because the emotion that sets in, you're like, man,
but you've got to remove yourself from it. You've got
you've got to hear both sides go back, and then
you're trying to prevent them from having to go to court. Yeah,
that's exactly. In this case, it's not court, but it's
the closest thing they get to solving the disciplinary part
(02:10:47):
of it.
Speaker 12 (02:10:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:10:47):
So I think when you look at this whole let's
take the whole grand scheme of things with the hit, right,
you had to hit, you saw the optics of it
of Trevor Lawrence went stiff and the optics are important,
and then you have the melee that and afterwards you
have him not leaving the field, helmet coming off, going
after she surf, going after him. Okay, I understand all that.
To me, that warrants a fine and probably a game suspension.
Speaker 4 (02:11:11):
Since he's had not a history of getting kicked out of.
Speaker 5 (02:11:14):
Games, ever be injected and neverbody. He's got a history
on tape. There's a few fines that have occurred. I
think that there's a long list of those guys in
the league, buddy, right, there are, and I think there
that that warrants a game where I get pissed off
quite frankly, is John Runyan's explanation, Like you brought up
last segment where he's right, you don't attack the dude's character. Okay,
(02:11:38):
you talk about the hit. Okay, you you brought down.
Speaker 4 (02:11:41):
History, right, why? Right?
Speaker 5 (02:11:43):
But I think it's unfair to judge the man rather
than the hit, right right, job, And in the in
the the letter, he did doubt. And then you've got
Ramon Foster that comes in and obviously he looked at
the hit, the history and everything.
Speaker 4 (02:12:03):
Else and looked at what Ryan said about him, right,
and didn't a little bit of bias h and didn't
lower it Richard.
Speaker 5 (02:12:09):
That's where that's the that's the unfair part that obviously
it kind of pisses me off a bit.
Speaker 4 (02:12:13):
There's no doubt there was a Did he got partially railroaded, Yes,
there's no doubt. Not fully he should have been suspended,
but not three games. No, not three games. So that's
three games and seven figures. Yeah, if you're going by
three games salary, I'm assuming it's a something depending on
whatever his game check is or close. Yeah, that's a
lot of money, man. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:12:31):
So I think there is an not an art, but
I think there is a part of railroading out shy
here for a guy that's never been suspended and never
been ejected one game. Okay, I get it, dude. You
can't hit a quarterback like that. Whether we like the
rules or not, you cannot hit a quarterback like that.
Speaker 4 (02:12:46):
It was almost like the decision was pre made before
you even put it on paper.
Speaker 5 (02:12:50):
It's like they're setting a precedent and using three games.
So from now on, if any player hits a quarterback
like that, or hits a player like that, in the
three games.
Speaker 4 (02:12:59):
Better be even if you haven't been, if you've just
got a little like you've you've been had some personal
fouls along the way. But I've been suspended. I told
you when it happened on Monday, I said, when somebody suggests,
I said, oh, it's not gonna that. There's no way.
It's four games, right and three games and no, he'll
get a game suspension. I said, I get it. So
I told you from that, just from the standpoint of it,
that's too much and the CBA should protect that is
(02:13:20):
exactly what I said. The collective bargaining should protect that
long at suspension for a first time, for a first
time suspension offender. Regardless of what you think the previous
optics were, he was not suspended. It's not your jaw
to change the law. We don't move goalposts on the way.
But the problem is the NFL does. That's what this
whole arguments about. They move the f and goal posts
on a regular basis to suit their optics. Well, now
(02:13:42):
we're trying to protect the player. Yeah, you protect them,
but it doesn't mean that you all of a sudden
attack the character of a guy and try to ruin him,
or at least get everybody right now, what's the league fan?
What are the people across the country thinking about al
Shire's horstiest player in the league. And it's not fair, right,
It's not fair.
Speaker 5 (02:13:58):
And then the irony about it is John is the
guy that brought down the hammer voted by Player's dirtiest
player two times.
Speaker 4 (02:14:04):
And then Ramon Foster.
Speaker 5 (02:14:05):
There's a compilation him going around on Twitter right now
of all the dirty hits that he's had. It's all
just it's all the irony of that those two guys
being able to hear this case and in the three games,
it's it's too much.
Speaker 4 (02:14:16):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (02:14:17):
Seven one, three, two point two five seven ninety John Reggie,

Speaker 4 (02:17:20):
Great seeing you again, man.
Speaker 5 (02:17:21):
Last year was fantastic, It was fun and these two
days are two of our favorites for Shawn and I Man.
Speaker 9 (02:17:26):
So good to be here, so good to get an
opportunity to represent the family. Is the patience, the doctors
that Saint Jude. So thank you guys for having us.
Speaker 4 (02:17:33):
And you got to what I love you got the
you got the pete hegse Seth slicked back hair. There,
it's a really good jealous look. It is so sweet.
It's good. I said, I wanted the uh, just a
se the salt pepper. Yeah, my guy's got good look.
So Sean tried to look.
Speaker 5 (02:17:49):
Sean tried to get him a little salt and pepper.
Last week, two weeks ago, it was all it was
all peppers, all pepper. But that's okay, alright, I digress. Anyway,
great to have you with us. And obviously ever gets
old the stories and the emotion. First off, how do
you deal with it?
Speaker 4 (02:18:06):
I mean the emotion that I know, I know the
end game of what we're trying to get accomplished, but
just the emotion, the raw emotion you go through with
these stories every day. It's it's phenomenal. Well, you've seen
it walking through the halls of Saint Jude. You know,
it's a hopeful place.
Speaker 9 (02:18:20):
So when when families have their toughest moment, right when
when they've got to go to the hospital, I mean
hospitals send their toughest cases to Saint Jude and to
see our doctors, to see our researchers, to see our
patients fight.
Speaker 21 (02:18:35):
Man, it's inspiring, right, and it's it's not a dark place.
Speaker 9 (02:18:38):
I mean, there's there's a whole lot of hope and
it's really the best place in the worst moment. And
so that gives me a lot of hope to see
little patients as they walk through, as they're dealing with it,
that we got little red wagons that they move around in,
you know, knowing, hey, they're going through something really difficult.
But through my work and through the work that you
guys do, I can help bring a smile their faces.
Speaker 4 (02:18:58):
That resilience that these kids show, we as adults should
should take notice, right. I mean, in there in the
darkest times, they sure light. I mean Saint Jude's Hospital,
I mean, and you can talk about bright and it's
as bride as a full moon. Man, it's incredible.
Speaker 9 (02:19:12):
Yeah, it's uh, you know, through throughout the day. Like
to me, we're having a really long day today and
they just started their day. They're walking through, they're getting
their appointments. They may not get out of there at seven,
eight o'clock, nine o'clock today, right, And so to me,
as I think about that, I'm going, hey, I can
I can run that marathon with them, right right? So
you know, your listeners have been so so gracious to
us and so so glad to get it to share
(02:19:34):
some of the success stories.
Speaker 4 (02:19:36):
And Brian, the crazy thing is, yeah, these stories, well
they're repeatable because they stick with us. There's always a
new story. There's always another one as we speak, another story,
another child with cancer that you're trying. Of course the
goals day and cancer. But in the process, what does
it alleviate a lot of the stress from from the
families that have to deal with these incredible journeys they're on.
Speaker 5 (02:19:55):
Yeah, and you know, I think the biggest thing that
we talk about with our Saint Jewish Radiothon is partner hope, right,
And you talk about hope and when you walk around
the cancer center, there's a lot of hope going around.
Last year here at iHeartMedia Houston, we raised over a
million dollars and just so far this morning, what we've
been on air since six am, so about what three
and a half hours, we've already raised And this was
(02:20:15):
this email was sent out at eight fifty six, so
it's going to be larger than this number, but already
sixty three thousand, five hundred and sixty six dollars and
this is two days.
Speaker 4 (02:20:23):
And then they got the golf tournament right Monday is right, right, right,
that's right, that's right.
Speaker 5 (02:20:26):
So I mean just just for then, like here for examples,
Jane Mary, Jeremy, David all within the last thirty minutes
becoming partners in Hope. I'm I'm amazed every year that
we do this, and I say it was fun. It's
fun for us, but it's it brings notice to something
that's quite frankly, people still don't really know about when
it comes to Saint Jude's Like, we can sit here
(02:20:47):
and talk about the stories, and we can talk about
the awful things with you know, parents having to go
through this stuff with their children children, right, Shawn's father
out of messalthelia omen, my dad out of lung cancer.
Speaker 4 (02:21:00):
Right.
Speaker 5 (02:21:01):
I could never imagine my son or daughter having to
go through this. I don't have kids, right, but having
to go through this and then just the outpouring of support,
how does that make you feel like you've been doing
this for a long time. Are you still amazed by
the support that comes in year in and year out.
Speaker 9 (02:21:14):
Listen, we've got When the hospital been four percent of
kids with the most common form of cancer, acute lymphoblastic leukemia,
had a chance to survive.
Speaker 21 (02:21:22):
Today it's up to ninety four percent.
Speaker 9 (02:21:24):
And so as I think about that, I go, you know,
there's still six percent of kids that have the most
common form of cancer that aren't making it. And for
that family it's not good enough, right, And for us
it's not good enough, you know. So that's who that's
who we're fighting for. That's who we're working for.
Speaker 4 (02:21:38):
Right.
Speaker 9 (02:21:38):
So, yeah, we've done a lot. Eighty percent of kids
that have cancer are now surviving. That's awesome, But outside
of this country it's twenty percent, right, And so Saint
Judas sharing the research and treatment of protocolsts freely so
that no child, no matter where you are, can have
a chance to live, right, no child?
Speaker 21 (02:21:56):
Shit down the Donald?
Speaker 4 (02:21:57):
Why are aside from the money raised and obviously need
money for not only the research but the treatment. You
said it's kind of ninety percent, and you said in
this country that and how long are they I mean
full life? Are we talking that it's gone and remission
and try and so how do we get it to
(02:22:18):
one hundred percent?
Speaker 21 (02:22:19):
Well, that's what I'm saying. That the research, the way
Saint Judas leading the world and the way it treats
understands and it's able to deal with childhood cancer.
Speaker 4 (02:22:29):
That's where that's where we are today.
Speaker 13 (02:22:31):
Right.
Speaker 21 (02:22:31):
We've identified the problem.
Speaker 9 (02:22:32):
We're getting to the solution right, and once we get that,
then it's sharing it freely, right, which is what Saint
Judas doing. Not every child can come to Saint Jude,
but Saint Jude can be in every community. Jude is
in every community because we are sharing our protocols freely.
Speaker 4 (02:22:46):
That's unbelievable. Man.
Speaker 5 (02:22:47):
So like I just you know, I've got this book
that here in front of me with just different stories
from children and their and their mom and dads, their parents,
their family, Archie and family. Archie was diagnosed with stage
three Hotchkins foma and was only eleven years old. He survived,
he's cancer free, and he's now an EMT just like
his father. I mean, it's just little things like that,
(02:23:09):
just a small little snippet. I can only imagine what
they had to go through. But this stuff is just unbelievable,
that's right.
Speaker 9 (02:23:15):
So family, is that saying you'd never receive a bill
for treatment, travel, housing, or food because all the family
should worry about is helping their child live. And we
do that through partners at Hope, Right. I mean it
takes all of us pitching in just a little bit
to help create that.
Speaker 12 (02:23:30):
Right.
Speaker 9 (02:23:30):
So families get transportation to the hospital, they get housing,
they'll get all the food they need, They'll get all
the treatment that they need, however long it needs.
Speaker 4 (02:23:37):
Once you become a.
Speaker 21 (02:23:38):
Sued patient, you're a sang you'd patient for life.
Speaker 10 (02:23:40):
Wow.
Speaker 9 (02:23:40):
And so it's incredible to think, you know, in the again,
in the worst moment, there's another aspect of it that
you don't have to worry about because the community is
rallying around him.
Speaker 4 (02:23:50):
Is it fair to ask? Is it appropriate question to
ask how much money Saint Jude brought in for these kids?
I'm talking about? Yeah, at the end of the year,
would Saint Jude bring in twenty twenty four?
Speaker 9 (02:24:03):
Look, I will say I would say that the best
way to think about it is every child, their average
cost of treatment, it's about four hundred and fifty thousand
dollars God per child, per child, right, So every child
that we're having to treat is costing that, right, And
so for us, it's it's man not just providing for them,
but understanding what's happening there so that we then can
(02:24:25):
give that to the next kid, right, who's diagnosed with
that treatment?
Speaker 4 (02:24:28):
With that almost four hundred and fifty thousand dollars for child.
And now how many children are in there at one time?
Speaker 9 (02:24:33):
Yeah, we got eighty five hundred active patients alone. Today
there's gonna be two hundred and sixty kids that walk
through the halls of Saint Jude that are receiving treatment.
Speaker 4 (02:24:41):
Wow, you do the math, which means is why we're
on here pleading for nineteen bucks. And if you can.
I can't even talk about this stuff for nineteen bucks
because I've you know, you have friends that have gone
through it with kids, and I just when I think
about it parent and their child, I can't. But the
(02:25:02):
great thing about it is they're not burying them. They're
living and then they get to celebrate this. And when
you hear stories like an EMTs just like his pops
and how cool is that? Well, and it's it's a
gift to one more day. Yes, I mean the reality
is that some of the patients that are at Seen
you do pass away.
Speaker 6 (02:25:19):
Right.
Speaker 9 (02:25:20):
But I've heard time and time again Mom and Dad
tell me, but I got one more season with them,
I got one more Christmas with them, I got one
more Spring with them, I got one more Birthday with them. Right,
And so the gifts that you and I have, right man,
that's that's what we're giving them, right, the opportunity to
have that extended period of time with them.
Speaker 4 (02:25:36):
And how long have you been doing this with Saint
Jud's now?
Speaker 9 (02:25:38):
Yeah, So I've been with Saint Jude for about sixteen years.
Last sight with on the radio side, so plump to
get to.
Speaker 4 (02:25:46):
I'm obviously pretty familiar with Saint Juds. I mean I've
been involved with it a long time. When did when
did he start this? Yeah?
Speaker 21 (02:25:53):
So Danny Thomas, our founder, start at the hospital in
nineteen sixty two.
Speaker 4 (02:25:57):
Daughter carries it on as well.
Speaker 9 (02:25:58):
That's right, Listen, Danny made one guy made one promise,
he promising you that if he'd show him his way
in life, he'd build him a shrine. And this is
the shrine that he built this hospital for kids. No
matter who you are, race, gender, it doesn't matter your
ability to pay once you get accepted and say, none
of that matters.
Speaker 4 (02:26:15):
Now he started his daughter carried it on Marlow Thomas right,
and continues to be carried on for people don't know
that are young. Danny Thomas is an entertainer and has
made and while he entertained and made a lot of
people happy, his biggest difference in life was this. This
is his biggest legacy.
Speaker 10 (02:26:33):
You know it?
Speaker 21 (02:26:33):
One guy keeping his word yep, right, I mean how not.
Speaker 4 (02:26:37):
Only did he keep it, he kept it in a
major and then it matters that the people behind him
make sure that that leg that that word is kept
for him in passing right. And these kids two hundred
and eighty of them active today today at four hundred
and fifty thousand per kid. Please if you can call
that number, yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:26:57):
Nineteen dollars a month and five eight eight, one four
three three to become a partner and help pastor before
we get you out of here, do you have any
further information you'd like to share with our listeners?
Speaker 21 (02:27:06):
Listen.
Speaker 9 (02:27:06):
One of the things I love the most about Saint
Judas our housing facilities, Domino's Village, is brand new within
the last year. Now we've got one better. We've heard
it's spectacular, one bedroom, two bedroom, and three bedroom, and
it's literally across the street from the hospital with one
of those tunnels right right, just up top right. We
we work with our patient families. We've got a little
(02:27:28):
clinic within Dominoes so that they don't have to go
do some of the basic stuff across the street.
Speaker 3 (02:27:33):
Right.
Speaker 9 (02:27:33):
That's the level of care that listeners provide, right, the
fact that you can just walk down get blood drawn,
whatever it is, so that you don't have to be uncomfortable. Listen,
your your your generosity literally makes miracles, but makes life
easier for Saint families.
Speaker 4 (02:27:49):
When you think about the collateral impact that from one
to like just this the thing they did with somebody
calling given nineteen and then therefore calls and then what
it does and the difference it makes, I can't fathom
that there's anything because kids deserve a long life, right, yeah,
I mean, you know ninety we do somebody in the nineties, right,
(02:28:11):
of course it is. But when you think about what
they're going through and and all the treatment and all
the i mean, the resilience and the prayers and the
blessings they have is there. There can't be anything more impactful,
and it is something like, there can't be somebody who's
doing anything at least more impactful than this, meaning taking
(02:28:34):
care of these kids. Because when we say that that's
the generation, the next, the future, they deserve, this opportunity
is too. It's incredible. I'm every time you guys come here,
even to see the commercials, it's it's still got wrench.
It doesn't matter when you see him or what kind
of mood you're in, you you will stop down and
it will shut you down and you will like pay
(02:28:56):
attention if your emotions can handle it. It just continue
every single year and every day to marvel at what
you guys do, and I marvel at the kids and
the families resilience. It is beyond me because I'm not sure.
I guess maybe I could. I try to think I could,
but I don't want to have to see it or
face it. But and thank goodness, my children didn't have to.
(02:29:17):
But I the way that the families and you guys
treat them in these kids, what an example you guys are?
This are we we us talking about? It's the easy part.
I don't know how you do it, the emotion every day,
so thank you.
Speaker 21 (02:29:29):
It's a belichick is that savings do your job. At
Saint Jude.
Speaker 9 (02:29:34):
Our tagline is finding, finding cure, saving children, and so
that's what we do every day. Yeah, nobody finding you're
saving children.
Speaker 4 (02:29:41):
Nobody does it better.
Speaker 5 (02:29:42):
Yeah, so thank you Sean On Sean and my behalf pastor.
What you do for this is unbelievable. We thank you
so much for sure coming to us every single year,
your partner Angela obviously right down the hall doing her thing,
and of course Saint Jus as a whole, thank you man.
Speaker 4 (02:29:58):
And they love pleasure to have you. You guys love it.
I can't tell you don't know you don't love why
you're doing it. You love the reason, the result of
saving lives. And we're so grateful for you.
Speaker 2 (02:30:07):
Mary.
Speaker 4 (02:30:08):
Great, thank you, Thank you guys. The least we can
do is hopefully and if somebody's out, if you've got
an extra nineteen bucks a month sitting around, or nine
hundred bucks sitting around.
Speaker 5 (02:30:16):
Please yeah please, that's a pastor Pastor Direau visiting with
us from Saint Jude. Become a monthly donor and a
Partner and Hope, pledging just nineteen dollars a month to
help kids at Saint Jude fight cancer. One eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three. One eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three is the number
two call to become a partner in Hope again. That's
one eight hundred five eight eight one four three three.
(02:30:39):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Families never receive a bill
from Saint Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food, because
all the family should worry about is helping their child live.
One eight hundred five eight eight one four three three.
Uh tuk to George, looks like he uh could be
colleagues with Pastor. What's happening, George?
Speaker 22 (02:30:59):
Yeah, that's right. You know there's that insurance commercial you
sometimes see on TV where there are two guys who
are tailgating buddies. They've been tailgating vice for a long time,
but they don't even know that each other is married.
Speaker 4 (02:31:11):
Right, Well, it's kind of like this.
Speaker 22 (02:31:13):
So I've known Pastor for a number of years. We
are both sports officials, we both referee lacrosse. I worked
many games with him. He's a good fella. I had
no idea he worked for Saint Jude. Did I hear
him on the radio.
Speaker 4 (02:31:26):
It's funny.
Speaker 6 (02:31:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:31:27):
Wow, he's a good fella.
Speaker 22 (02:31:29):
I just wanted to, you know, give that that personal
shout out. And it was pretty cool that you had
him as your guest, and.
Speaker 4 (02:31:36):
I guess that's kind of it. We appreciate the call, George,
thanks for that, man. Yeah, that's awesome. I didn't know.
I don't know. I don't know Pastor was a referee
for lacrosse. I did not either. I had a son
who played lacrosse all through high school. So that's awesome.
I love that sport.
Speaker 12 (02:31:51):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:31:51):
I was telling you guys during a break when I
was listening to Nick Saban and a motivational speech, and
he was talking about human nature is to make an AM,
then take a couple of weeks off, then make a
C on your next test, and then take your B home.
And that's human nature. Okay, I got my B. I'm good.
And then we talk about what Pastor said about four
hundred and fifty per grand per kid, and it's the once.
(02:32:13):
Once you're there, you're a lifetime Yeah, guest of Saint Jude,
if you need.
Speaker 5 (02:32:17):
To be, I think you said, eighty four hundred patients,
and there's d and fifty hundred sixty two days.
Speaker 4 (02:32:23):
I thin two hundred and eighty are there today right day.
So that and you do the America right, Oh my gosh.
So you start to think, so the human nature is
to make an a magacy and get a beat with them.
You can't make an A and make a cy. No,
not only the doctor and the doctors to make sure that,
I mean every move they make a child's life, not
not a ninety seven year old who's lived a long life,
a child's life. But when it comes to raising the
(02:32:46):
money to make sure these families never have a bill,
you can't make a B. Nope, can You got to
make an A, and then January you got to make
an A, and then February you got to make an A.
So to me, it's so over whelming to and an
incredible blessing what they do, the kids, the families, Saint Jude,
(02:33:06):
the doctors, people like Pastor Angela who raise money and
go around the country doing this. It's it's to me,
I don't know how there's anything better than we can
do is make kids' lives better, healthier, safer, and simpler. Yeah,
all it takes is nineteen dollars a month to be
a partner and hope.
Speaker 10 (02:33:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:33:25):
Literally you break that down, it's five bucks a week.
Speaker 10 (02:33:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:33:31):
You know, I've been doing that for a while and
you almost feel like I got to do a lot
more than that. Yeah, incredible, man, it really is absolutely
baffling to me. Four hundred and fifty grand. We know's
what I know, but I guess what we know about
medical treats, about treatment and medical stuff. Now, hope may
it'd be great if it went down, But four hundred
and fifty grand five years from now, what's it going
(02:33:52):
to be? Yeah? And these kids and these families, man,
what a I know it's.
Speaker 5 (02:33:57):
On a different topic, but but our health care in
this country is so ass backwards. And I lived it
with my father and my mother and watching them be
denied things because of health insurance.
Speaker 4 (02:34:09):
Everybody and things like that. But everybody listening to you
today say this is like, you know, is the experience
some form of form of it? Yeah, and it's it's
it's it's we're ass backwards in this country when it
comes to medical care. So four and fifty thousand dollars, right,
and then you work you work seventy years because you're
so you grind sixty or fifty or sixty years to
(02:34:30):
enjoy ten years as opposed to work ten years and
enjoyed right. Yeah, well yeah, but you know these kids
I am fascinated by. I know a lot of adults
that most of us couldn't handle doing it, fighting through
what they fight through. So if you can't nineteen bucks,
you know, like I said, if you can't it listens.
Some are going through tough financial, tough times. But if
you can sacrifice something, it'd be great.
Speaker 5 (02:34:51):
Yeah, nineteen dollars a month to help kids at Saint
Jude fight cancer. Families never receive a bill from Saint
Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food because all the
family should worry about is helping their child live. You

That my group of buddies all their dads used to
play at the church down the street together, grown ass
old men all the time like their forties.
Speaker 4 (02:36:23):
Oh dude, it's it's and it's such great exercise. Go
like a like a fitness club or a church. I'd
play all the time, and then with bone to bone
after my career, and I still played when I was
doing television. I loved it. But then it got to
point where the grind, the recovery part of like bone,
it was brutal. I bet, and so I uh, I
actually loved playing, and I still I'd still like to.
(02:36:44):

you made it sound like this is foregone conclusion. It
is over. It is olds Our guy Jr.
Speaker 2 (02:37:11):
He called in.
Speaker 4 (02:37:11):
He said that he was a bass player, Wayman Tisdale. Well,
I think I think then he might have played. Are
you sure he didn't play? Did I say saxophone? Are
we sure he wasn't a sax player? You might want
to double check that. Unless I lost my mind, I've
never seen him in concert. God rest his soul, but
I sure loved talking about it.
Speaker 5 (02:37:30):
He was a gold member, gold medal member of the
nineteen eighty four USA YEP Olympic Basketball.
Speaker 4 (02:37:36):
Great college basketball scores, left handed, Get you in that lane,
A little kiss off the glass from fifteen Wayman and
one of you talk about a beautiful human being, love
Wyman Tisdale. Wayman Tisdale did indeed play the bass? Oh
(02:37:57):
he didn't play saxophone? You sure.
Speaker 2 (02:38:00):
Did?
Speaker 4 (02:38:01):
I I know he was a great I thought he played.
I thought he was a saxophone player too. Seem I
losing my mind? Did he play more than one instrument? Base? Well,
there you go? Who said that?
Speaker 14 (02:38:13):
J R?
Speaker 4 (02:38:14):
I've obviously never seen in the confect but I played
hoops with him and we had a lot some fun,
good conversations over the years, And boy was he great?
Why did I think he played the saxophone? Died way
too young? But man was he such a good scorer
at Oklahoma and it was fun to be fun to
(02:38:34):
play against the high school he was just at that tournament.
He was just a good man. Yeah, No, no saxophone base.
And then I'm maybe I'm thinking of another player, not
not that I knew, but maybe I'm thinking of Yeah,
but he was a bass player, okay, good, But he
was a he played a lot and was a musician
and was good at it. For some reason, I thought
(02:38:55):
he also played the saxophone. Am I losing my mind?
Speaker 12 (02:38:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:38:59):
Probably maybe all the years past, dude, Yeah, maybe I
am losing my mind. But the point is he was
a hell of a musician and he had a great
and that I do know. His love for music was
awesome and you heard that they're pretty impressive, huh. And
then also a phenomenal, like I said, great basketball player.
But the number one trait for him was he was
(02:39:19):
a sweetheart of a man, good guy. I would have
loved to see him play the bass in concert. Oh
you must have him confused with Lester Young. No, I
don't know Lester Young. Grover Grover Washington junior. Yeah, but
he wasn't a who player. He was just a musician.
Gets Yeah, definitely guy and Jah thank you. But uh
(02:39:40):
Coleman Hawkins, No, it wasn't him either. I didn't play
against him or go to his John Coltrane. Yeah, legend,
by the way, Charlie, why did I Sydney Boschett I'm
going to figure out why. I know, I'm going to
feed not to be confused with Dante Boschett. I'm not.
I'm gonna I'm gonna figure out what there's a sax
(02:40:02):
but why why I had saxophone and why I had
sacks on my mind? And you know what I'm saying.
But yeah, what a great well I'll tell you what.
When I knew we were playing them and behind the tournament,
it was like, oh boy, you better bring out your
best because that guy scored thirty falling out of bed
man a little left handed kiss. Yeah he was some onions.
(02:40:23):
Yeah he was special. Ar thank you the bass player.
But you heard that that that you said that was
Wayaman Tisdale playing a bass in that uh in that
song song there triple yes, Okay, Well talented guy he was.
He was just talented. But he's sweetheart of a man.
