Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsby, old By Houston.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (00:12):
To usc true.
Speaker 5 (00:13):
Longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Bryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewn Salsbury Show.
Speaker 6 (00:22):
Rockets beat the Clippers last night. Off tonight, Texans getting
ready for the Dolphins coming off there bye week. The
college football playoff bracket is set. Juan Soto headed to
the Mets on a massive fifteen year, seven hundred and
sixty five million dollar deal. Sean Triple, Good morning, what's happening?
(00:44):
I hope everybody had a great weekend morning.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
A lot of.
Speaker 6 (00:47):
Money getting thrown around in uh in Major League Baseball,
those winter meetings kicking off last night. My goodness, let's
get that mic. Come on your first time.
Speaker 7 (00:58):
Yeah, what did they just fall out of a turn
up truck and land in the studio.
Speaker 6 (01:01):
And God for whatever? Billy Currington says.
Speaker 7 (01:04):
Yeah, thanks, mom directions, Yeah, damn right, turn up greens
seven sixty five the biggest contract ever in.
Speaker 6 (01:20):
Sports history, in sports history.
Speaker 7 (01:22):
Yes, so he's gonna just go across basically, just take
a little trip from Brooklyn to Shae Stadium or what
do we call it now city Field, Stadium, Queens and
that's where he's headed, and that's for seven sixty five
and he's in. Juanito is a guy.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
What do we where?
Speaker 7 (01:44):
We can call him Juanito's grande right now? Okay pause?
Uh no, but yeah, that contracts grande as well. He
uh laders in that that'll get him. They could get
him over eight hundred million. Yeah, I know, and well
of course those escalators that of course he's going to
get eighthut because he's a great player. It's a trip
(02:08):
and I think that and I also saw it. I
think John, our buddy, sent me this on Twitter that
with a Domis's contract, which is massive, consider you get
that much money, Bregman is going to.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Get two hundred Oh yeah, yeah, there's no doubt.
Speaker 7 (02:24):
So he will not be here. No, there's nob aren't
they fifty million plus apart?
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Yeah, fifty million apart.
Speaker 7 (02:31):
That's five million. You close a gap fifty You get
to twenty five at the most, and you're still twenty
five shy, I don't, I don't. I don't see how
it gets done. Well, if you're five memory, let me
just do it. I always like to know what the
agent's making. Eight hundred million, and if you're just taking
five percent, if that's all he gets, that's a forty
(02:52):
million dollars bonus for Scott Bors. M huh, yeah, negotiated.
What if it probably baseball second best player, although I
can think when when you know acun is healthy, Mookie Betts,
there's about five or six of them. Right, Soto's in
(03:15):
the team photo and now he gets to buy dinner
for the team photo because he's making eight eight hundred
million dollars. Guess what? Guess what his opt out is?
That's part where did I see? Was it halfway? What's
his opt to?
Speaker 6 (03:30):
Five years? Yeah? Okay, gets an opt out for five years,
no deferred money. If if Soto chooses not to opt out,
his deal will go up four million per year from
fifty one million to fifty five million for the main
of the contract, meaning the total value would exceed eight
one hundred million dollars.
Speaker 7 (03:47):
We'll just opt in now, right, okay, Right, so you
don't have to just say, yeah, I'm in and let's go
and do this deal. Don't opt don't opt out, just
just telling me I'm good. Fifteen years, eight hundred and
twenty five million bucks or whatever it is.
Speaker 6 (04:02):
Why would you leave? Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 7 (04:05):
Just finish your career there and play great baseball, get
yourself to the Hall of Fame, hopefully win a championship
if you're Soto, and if you're the Mets, if that's
what you're asking for, and get to step it into
your retirement fifteen years from now, do whatever you want.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Oh, by the way, he gets a seventy five million
dollars signing bonus Man Cohen is a mad man. How
much money does he have?
Speaker 7 (04:31):
Well, probably probably a little more than Jon Soto. Okay, yeah,
quite a bit more, I'm sure.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
Oh, he's worth about a cool twenty two bill twenty
two billion.
Speaker 7 (04:50):
So I really don't know what to tell you, dog,
other than I sit back and marvel. And I'm not
mad at the player forgetting this, are you?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
No?
Speaker 7 (04:58):
Hell no, I'm not mad because if it's offered and
he can maneuver it and get it, he should get it.
If you got a problem with it, then you should
probably take it up with with the Mets ownership.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
That's what I do know.
Speaker 7 (05:13):
If it was his first time in New York, if
you didn't know, if he can handle the pressure, the
guy loves it and thrives on it. We've seen it
and you'd say, man, what happens to you? It would
have all of a sudden he goes, you know, the
old New York's over one because it could be a
media and stuff can be overwhelming for some.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
But he already you know, across the street, he put.
Speaker 7 (05:29):
Up an MVP season. If it's not for his teammate,
he played that great. So's he's been rising. It doesn't
matter where he's been his whole career. He's been dominant, right,
So there's never been a stage too big for him.
So you're not worried about that. So in truth in
baseball terms, I don't know how you say, well, did
we reach the value of the contract for them? They
(05:50):
measure it on championship rings. How many people came, how
many wants soda jerseys, all those things that are going
to go. You know, you know their attendance and all that.
But he's almost failure proof, you know what I'm saying.
Whatever that is and your you know, two eighty thirty
five home runs to forty home runs one hundred RBIs
in that range. I mean, he's fairly full proof.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Right.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
The truth is, he's probably capable of even bigger seasons
than he's had. He really is. So now he's got
that security for the rest of his life. So I
don't know. If there's a handful of players that you say,
I'm not really worried about them, they'll perform as long
I mean, and he's one of them. He always performs.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
Let's see, so far in his career he is a
two eighty five hitter with an ops of nine to
fifty three.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
It's clockwork. He's just that guy. So I don't want
to say it's fool proof and failure proof, but for
the most part, he's one of the If there's a
guarantees in baseball, and if there's a handful of guarantees
in baseball, like a guarantee that Eraaldis Chapman's going to
throw a fastball right, well, guess what this is a
guarantee that you can bet on a bad season. The
(07:00):
guy's a two to seventy hitter with thirty five home
runs and ninety RBIs you know his.
Speaker 6 (07:04):
Career on base percentages so far in seven years. He's
already played the league seven years. Yees, well, which is
what he's in his mid twenty twenty six. Yeah, uh,
now what is it?
Speaker 7 (07:14):
What it was his career on base percentages four twenty one,
which is absurd.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
He's getting on base forty two percent of the time.
Speaker 7 (07:20):
Yeah, which is nuts. It's insane. Like I said, he's
about his about as full proof as it gets.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
Unbelievably, man, I mean he he is just unreal. He walks. Uh,
let's see last two years, one hundred and twenty nine,
walks one hundred and thirty two the year prior.
Speaker 7 (07:39):
I'll tell you what he's living fast forward.
Speaker 6 (07:42):
Yeah, he's making more money than Kenny Chesney.
Speaker 7 (07:45):
Tell you that is he? Are we sure Ken Chesney
a't making that? Ken is about a quarter of a
bill though. You think, yeah, let's go to the tail
to tape. You're gonna go, Really, Kenny Chessney, he's got
to be north of six seven, six hundred mil.
Speaker 6 (08:01):
Jenny Chesney net worth? What did you what did you guess?
Speaker 7 (08:05):
I didn't say sick. I met north of one hundred
and fifty mili, north of about one hundred and eighty to.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
Two hundred and twenty five, one hundred and ninety. There
you go, bad. But he's not Soto, No, No, he's
not sure, isn't. So you know, with with all this this,
the the dominoes are starting to fall at the Winter
at the Winter Meetings, yep, you know there's been a
couple moves Blake trying, and it's headed back to the
Dodgers two year, twenty two million dollars. So good for him. Obviously,
(08:31):
the will Willia Domus signing uh headed over to the
San Francisco Giants. I believe that was one hundred and
eighty two million Yankees missed out on Juan Soto. They
offered Juan Soto apparently seven hundred and sixty million for
sixteen years. So that's that drops that aa V. The
(08:51):
Yankees are going to go try to make a couple
moves now, and you know they're probably gonna go try
to go get probably gonna go try to go get
Alex Bregman. Oh well, I would have lost that at
in Wan Soto. Why would you not try to go
get Alex Bregman.
Speaker 7 (09:03):
Or more than one person.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
Yeah, so it's gonna.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
He must love New York because he stays there and
he's been productive. Man, But you can love any place
for seven hundred and sixty eight hundred million bucks which
he's gonna end up making or more.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
It's just stupid, largest deal in professional sports history.
Speaker 7 (09:21):
Wonder how he feels when he wakes up this morning
after that? Do you sleep last night? If you signed
it yesterday, do you sleep last night? Do you get
me think about it?
Speaker 6 (09:32):
The life?
Speaker 7 (09:33):
I mean, he's making good money anyway. I'm saying that
about when something. You're now the highest paid player in
team sports history. So is it? I mean, does does
he wait like if he won power Ball? It's the
same thing. I got to get to Austin, go get
my money? Right, you wake up this morning? What's what's
he thinking? What's on his mind? I probably wouldn't. Yeah,
So what I mean, can you imagine you wake up
(09:54):
and you're like, and somebody's going to direct deposit seventy
five million dollars today in his bank account.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
He was already living in New York, so it's not
like he's got to go get a new place.
Speaker 7 (10:05):
They're going to deposit. Well, yeah, they probably won't deposit
all that because they're going to take some taxes out
of that.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
But still, yeah, you gotta go get a physical too, right.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
Oh yeah, I mean all the details, but just thanks
you're physical and by the middle of the week you're
gonna have you're gonna be like man, that was that's
a pretty nice ATM machine. Yeah, so good on him.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Man.
Speaker 7 (10:25):
I don't go get your bag, but I can tell
you this, prices are going to be higher than you
thought for certain players. If you're paying Willie Adamas, who's
a really good player, that kind of money, Uh, the
backup playing at third base is probably going to have
to start to be very very well thought out.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
And uh, what's his name, Dana Brown, the Astros center manager.
He spoke with I think it was XM Serious Satellite
radio yesterday from the winter meetings. Uh, and he talked
about Alex Bregmant. So, if Willia Doomas is getting one
hundred and eighty two million dollars on a seven year deal,
I think that's a twenty six a year, one hundred
and eighty two total, and I think what the Astros
(11:03):
offered six for one fifty six. Yeah, Bregman's he's going
to be in the two hundred range. He's gonna get
over two hundred.
Speaker 7 (11:09):
And that'll be that's also gonna be some uh some
Boris momentum with the Soto thing. It's just you know,
sometimes you just get in and you just stay on
a roll and you're playing rolling the dice and bam,
playing the craps table, and it just keeps going your way.
Boris has already maybe one of those Boris offseasons. He's
already gotten like five of his guys already signed, That's
what I'm saying. And they're making on their big money.
(11:31):
He came out of the shoot this year instead of
late to the party last year, and it's paying off.
Bregman's gonna get h Yeah, he's just probably more than
like that. I don't see it being here. I don't
know how you negotiate up fifty million dollars.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Yeah I don't either. Maybe you do.
Speaker 7 (11:45):
But when the starting at the starting point was five
million away, like I said, it'd be a different story.
This is fifty plus million.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Away and apparently, uh right around fifty and apparently the
the Astros are extensively shopping Ryan Presley.
Speaker 7 (12:00):
So that's something we said on here that was more
than that I thought was more than likely to happen.
That's no shock to me at all.
Speaker 6 (12:07):
This week is gonna be I think a pretty wild week.
In Major League Baseball at these winter meetings and the money,
the amount of money that's being spent early.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
I think this is gonna be the biggest week of
free agency in baseball. And there'll be other moves after.
But you know what, it's the frenzy. If there's a frenzy,
it's gonna happen this.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
I think it's gonna because.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
When you're face to face with people at the owners meetings,
thanks seem to get done.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
Quicker right, right with all those agents roaming around and
trying to get their guys signed. Yeah, there's gonna be
some money thrown around. There's gonna be some movement. We've
got a lot of movement on our show.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
I know that.
Speaker 6 (12:37):
A lot of college football. We got to get into. Hey,
the Texans they beat the bye week, Yes they won,
they beat the bye week.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
Huge win. Maybe they're gonna need it because the X
three it.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
Won't be easy Chiefs actually finding a way to win again.
Doink off the upright, Josh Allen looks like the MVP. Dude,
he was unbelievable. Yes, sure that game was crazy.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
Listen, there's only the race for MVP is him and
Saquon Barkley, and then golf and Lamar Jackson and stuff
come into play. Nobody's been better than Josh Allen, No period.
Speaker 6 (13:14):
First player in history three passing, three rushing.
Speaker 7 (13:17):
Yeah, no, he touchdown to me. If they keep going
in there, the you know, tough one yesterday, they he's.
Speaker 6 (13:23):
The MVP of the league. He's playing like, Oh yes,
he is man. All year, you've listened to your favorite

Hey, this holiday, give them what they really want. Give
holiday scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery. They're the perfect
gift and you could be giving follow a la la
la la la la la lots of cash. Right, So,
give holiday scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery and you
could make holiday very merry. It's a good gift to give,
right there's some coin, there's a chance of some big
(14:12):
cash and a happy feeling. On the Texas Lottery, it's
the perfect gift. Give those holiday scratch tickets from the
Texas Lottery and make their holiday very special.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
That's the Texas Lottery.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
From h Town.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
This is a.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
For h down.
Speaker 8 (14:28):
This is this is Sports Talk seven nights because right.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
Now you see it Leighton Houston.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Right now, back to Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
It's a big week for the Astros as they pursue
to try and re sign Alex Bregman. Reportedly by Bob Nightingale,
the Astros and Alex Bregman are fifty million dollars off.
Dana Brown spoke to make sure I get this correct.
I believe it was. Indeed it was a network radio
(15:00):
on sirius X. Semi spoke yesterday at the winter meetings.
This is what the general manager, Dane Brown had to say.
Speaker 9 (15:07):
Look, Fregman's outstanding, you know, great defender, good bat quality,
ab all the time, done great things here in Houston.
Speaker 6 (15:16):
We're working. We're working on it.
Speaker 9 (15:19):
Uh. You know, we're having a lot of conversations with
Scott and you know, we're optimistic.
Speaker 10 (15:24):
It's certainly going to be an important factor for you,
and I guess the question is if you don't get
them right, everybody has to have plan B. Where do
you pivot from there? Knowing that maybe you could have
upgrade first base a little bit, you could find somebody
else for third base, and the trademarket we hear Aeronanto's
name out there at Damas is off the board now,
so that's another guy that could have gone there. H
(15:46):
do you have internal solutions for first or third other
than singleton and maybe debond playing? But where do you
where do you see the infield?
Speaker 6 (15:53):
If not?
Speaker 9 (15:53):
Bregman, Yeah, I would say the internal solutions are maybe
a little bit away, so maybe another six to eight months,
maybe a year. So I don't think it's going to
be internal. But you know, sometimes these young kids will
will fool you and you know, they'll come in camp,
they'll look really good. They'll you know, they've they've worked
the tail off in the off season, so you never know.
(16:14):
But we're not taking anything off the table, you know,
hopefully you know, maybe by trade or you know, something
like that, but nothing's off the table. You know, we
we don't have to compete. We want to remain good. Uh,
but we're focused on Bregman first. So that's our priority.
It's been our priority from day one. Get a third
basement signed. So uh, you know we want them to
come back.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
All right. So there's Astros general manager Dana Brown speaking
on MLB Network series XM Radio and the Willie Domas
Sin and Sean. You mentioned it last segment briefly that
is going to propel Bregman over two hundred million dollars.
She got one hundred and eighty two.
Speaker 7 (16:51):
Yeah, you'd think at least right around two hundred million
somewhere in there. I and listening to Dana, and I
think they do one, and I think it is a priority.
Here's a problem if you want to get settled, if
it's probably if you like you want to, you want
to know how you get the third basement back.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
You have to pay them.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
Offer him two hundred and ten million bucks and you'll
probably get him. So, I mean, I know, hey, we
want him here, and we're well, and I'm with Dan
one hundred percent, but the way you're gonna get him
here is probably not by being fifty million dollars away.
That's just it's pretty simple math. You want him here,
then you're you're probably in your book's gonna have to
(17:31):
overpay a great deal that you're not used to doing here.
If not, then you're gonna have to find a third basement.
It's pretty it's really not that complex right now. No, No,
you know what he wants. It's really not that. It
really Isn't you know what he wants. You're not gonna
you know, you're not gonna be negotiating down. And it's
not that it's not that hard. It may be hard
(17:54):
to do them because there may be eight other teams
are gonna say, oh, you offer him too ten, Okay,
we want them so much, we'll get him two twenty five,
who knows? And where's your ceiling where you say, no,
that's our that's etched in stone. We ain't going to
pass this. But fifty million, ain't it?
Speaker 4 (18:09):
No?
Speaker 7 (18:09):
Okay, that much distance. So it's it's not like, oh man,
we got to go through here and we got to
go trade for him and we're gonna have to give up.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
It's real simple.
Speaker 7 (18:17):
Do you want him out pay the opponent if you're
fifty or forty million dollars short, then there's nobody who
can say that, Well, they may have given it their
best shot, but it wasn't a shot good enough to
keep Bregman interested. And if you're going in today and
you see a Domins's contract in Soto's, even though different position,
you start to think about the money that's moving, and
it will move this offseason. If you're Alex Bregman, you're
(18:40):
sitting there saying you're for me. The timeframes running you
you're not waiting around. No, you don't want to miss
the first wave of big bucks. And he's probably now
I mean now that Soto's off, I mean one of
the prized catches in the off season right now. So
(19:01):
if it's like I said, it's not that big. We
you know where you are, you know where they are.
If you want to do it, and you know where
the market's probably going to be, it's a pretty simple thing. Scott,
where are we? Well we want six years, two ten, Well,
we're only willing to pay you one seventy.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Okay, that's great.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
Is that your final offer?
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (19:20):
We can't go any higher now, Okay, why wish you luck? Yeah,
and I'll set see you in Boston or wherever else
you're going. It's really that, it's not. I mean, you
can get creative and say, well, can we do this
more upfront? Want more money, whatever, But really the creativity, now,
how do you shape it? You can tie that fifty
million dollars up anywhere you want early later, pay me now,
(19:41):
pay me later, whatever it is you.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
Want to do.
Speaker 7 (19:43):
But there's a number that I'm sure Scott Borse is
gonna want to get to, and if he doesn't, somebody
else will. And that's just the simple math of this. Yeah,
you don't have to go through trading prospects or any
if it's you and a guy sit in a room,
what's he want? Here's what we're willing to offer. What's
your final offer? And it's either going to be good
enough or it's not. There ain't gonna be a whole
lot of Well, we're within fifteen dollars. Now, when you're
within fifteen million, you're probably in striking distance. But other
(20:03):
than that, he's as Soto left for the same price
for one extra year off it was it for sixteen years.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
There were the Yankees offered him sixteen and it was
like four million, five million less per year.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
Right, So but what I'm saying, when you're up in
the a billion dollar area. Yeah, you're like, so, yeah,
you get caught in the tax wash Oka five or six.
But he literally is going across the street.
Speaker 6 (20:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
And when I say at Brooklyn to the Queens area,
but literally across the street to change the uniform, play
in front of similar fans. Although Yankee and Rets fans
may be different ones at the ball, but New York fans,
same media is gonna cover him every day. Yeah, And
he did that, and in truth, it probably came down
to twenty million bucks.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Yeah, twenty million max. Right when you give all the years,
forty five million bucks a year, right.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
On a guy who's going to make a billion dollars
if you count endorsements. By the time this contract's over,
he'll be well over a billion dollar counting his salary
in that, Yes, that he will have just made in
that fifteen years.
Speaker 11 (21:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
Problem. Matter of fact, we're probably if he plays like
he's been playing, it'll be more than that.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Right, So.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
And is and I'm sure back in his home country
and internationally too. I mean all the endorsements we don't see, right,
It's it's it's a he's a a billion dollar player.
So my point is is and he could opt out
after five years? Yeah, but why would you anyway? So
to see what there? So you scale that down into Bregman,
it's a pretty It's it's simple math when you're not
(21:32):
trading prospects or players. It's just how much money got. Yeah,
you know, throwing into like we'll throw in a range
rover is probably not going to be enough.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
You can buy ten of those. So what are you
going to do to get me to where I want
to get? Fifty million dollars apart? According to Bob Nightingale.
He also said the plan is for Houston to quote
unquote enhance their offer soon. Okay, well what does that
look like this week?
Speaker 7 (21:56):
Well, I'm sure that people thought Williat Doomas was going
to be around a little longer off the board. Yeah,
and this mayor he was a possibility for this team
if in fact.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
He was their quote unquote backup plan.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
Right, Well, that backup plan is now a starter. He's
got a backup. But you know it started at a
star for for somebody else. So goes fast. And when
you say well soon, I would have suggest that offer
soon means like today I would think so by tomorrow. Yeah,
it's because if it gets to my point, I'm also
somebody makes me an offer that I can't refuse. Are
you turning it down? Are you gonna sit there and
(22:28):
go back? No, you're gonna say, oh, well you want
to come up seventy million dollars to catch me. I'm
just signing it. I'm not going to miss out on it,
which begs the question, is Pete a Lonzo staying in
New York?
Speaker 6 (22:37):
Yeah, they're going to do both. I have no idea, man,
that's that's going to be.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
You think you'd want to You just add a great player.
You don't want to take a great player away from it?
Speaker 6 (22:46):
Right?
Speaker 7 (22:46):
You get both those power bats in your lineup. You
really need that. Judge and Soto, Alonzo and Soto. Yeah,
you'll take that if you're the Mets.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
I'm not.
Speaker 7 (22:55):
I'm not convinced he's leaving automatically. He California guy, isn't he?
Speaker 5 (22:59):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (23:00):
Alonzo? Yeah, come on, now that.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
He's an Orange County or California California, Well, he wouldn't
have handled the means he went to Florida. Let's see,
Pete didn't. Pete don't want to he didn't want to
come to ESCO.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
He could. He's scared. Yeah, oh yeah, that big polar
bear mother.
Speaker 7 (23:18):
You know, he don't want to roll up on my
in the mean streets. He's not he's not that dumb.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
Yeah, he looks smart guy, he's not going to roll
up there. He looked a little loss walking through Esco.
Speaker 7 (23:27):
Yeah, you don't want to do that.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
Hey man, what's that big white guy doing over here?
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Man?
Speaker 6 (23:30):
The only basic white guy we allow here? I know
he's actually from Tampa. Oh yeah, so he's a Florida guy.
Speaker 7 (23:35):
Yeah, he's one of those coasts you know where there's water, Yeah,
right right, southern California.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Yeah, you know, Florida's big peninsula. You know whatever it is,
left coast, West coast.
Speaker 7 (23:44):
Good players from both. So he's a Florida guy.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (23:48):
I don't see him going to the Miami Marlins.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
I doubt it. But he rolled out. He roll it
into ESCO either. You know, what do you say? The
only Seals, hey man, The only big greeno that we
like around here is Susy. Man, we don't like you
pull up. It's gotta be that, I don't think.
Speaker 7 (24:02):
So, No, I don't know, man. You know you're not allowed.
Peter odds up. But what do you mean, Oh, it's
Whitey blows everything. Yeah that you know, it's it's it's
my pep hey man, what l a?
Speaker 6 (24:15):
What do you call him? We call him Peter with
that guy's name, that Peter Alonzo man. Huh Alonzo? Yeah,
I mean kind of Yeah, baby, we'll welcome you, We
would get maybe welcome him in. Yeah, he's uh, he's
I don't know if he's going to go back there.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
William Domas, by the way, headed to the Giants, seven year,
one hundred and eighty two million dollar contract only twenty
nine years old.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Big signing for the uh for the Giants, and uh yeah,
but but Pete Alonso he's fraid he's gonna get paid.
So there's another big catch in this, in this price market.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
So yeah, and well Cohen's got a ton of money,
so I wouldn't be surprised if they dump money into
him too.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
Well, look, the Dodgers philosophies. One's not enough. So if
you want to keep up with.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
You know what Steve Cohen's like, Man, forget that deferred
money gets your bat here you go, Oh yeah, ain't.
Speaker 7 (25:07):
Get it. Up, but get it out. Let's go. How
much money you're like, that's.
Speaker 12 (25:10):
Final with me.
Speaker 7 (25:11):
I'm good to go.
Speaker 6 (25:12):
It's insane.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
I can get some interest off that principle.
Speaker 6 (25:15):
Man. Something else interesting coming from Bob Nightingale is that
the Astros are aggressively trying to trade one of their
bullpen guys. Who is it? We'll discuss the next right
here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Before we get to that,
let me tell you about the Daisy Dip from Daisy
Sour Cream, the new Daisy Dip by Daisy Soara Cream,
French Onion and Ranch sour cream dips. I love these
(25:36):
dips and these new dips from Daisy Sour Cream are
a game changer. They taste just as good as if
they were homemade. They were made with Daisy sour cream,
real herbs, real spices, and these new dips from Daisy
Soa Kream are made with ingredients where excuse me, you
can find in your kitchen and nothing more so, if
you have not added these to your game day spread,
you need to get over to your local grocery store.
(25:57):
I know they got them in plenty of hgb's around
here in the city. Over to the grocery store. Pick
up a couple of the new French onion and ranch
dips from Daisy added to your game day spread, your
holiday party and pair it with your favorite chips, wings,
vegetables or other foods. Again, it's the new Daisy Dip
by Daisy Sour Cream.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
Time it stop by Duban Fantastic Playbo or Dubob.
Speaker 13 (26:21):
This is Marisa Davon supports Stock seven ninety and the
iHeartRadio You're Home for the astros.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Were out there.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued. He is classic, he is classic,
of course he's mad. I saw another, Uh, Yankees fans
are in shambles, man. I saw a dude, a Yankees fan,
uh last night drove over to shay State excuse me, sorry,
city Field and went on this rant for like a
minute and a half two minutes, calling city Field a
(26:53):
dump a p pos And then he like turns around
and like shows the houses that are across the street,
and he's like, you want to live over here in
this piece of you know what? Damn bro, It's it's
eleven o'clock at night.
Speaker 7 (27:05):
Man, I can imagine one. So it was gonna live
somewhere like on the Upper East Side, I would think so, yeah,
in a crib, I would worry about I think he'll
be in the really good real estate area. Probably you
need to worry about that. Yeah, Oh but dude, just
think about it. To sin, it's like going for the
White Sox and the Cubs. That's to the Yankees, you
just don't do that. Well, of course you do it
(27:26):
for that money. Money.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Yeah, yeah, for that money.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
I love it. So they are tripping, aren't they. They're
they're upset. Yeah, you think, yeah, because if you look
at the get it, I get it that. That's that
we go back to that emotionally tied the players, they're
tied to money, you're tied to emotion, right, A big difference.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
And if you look at the difference in the deals. Obviously,
the Mets gave him fifteen years seven hundred and sixty
five million. The Yankees reportedly offered him sixteen years for
uh seven hundred and sixty million. So what couple million
bucks a year?
Speaker 7 (28:01):
And he said not, I'm going over to I'm going
over to City Field and play for the Mets. And
when you ask, well, when you make all that money,
does a couple extra million a year matter. Apparently One
SODA's contract tells you it does.
Speaker 6 (28:12):
Do you remember this was probably two years ago. We
kind of started talking about how much we thought one
Soda was going to make, and we guessed around half
a billion.
Speaker 7 (28:21):
Yeah, over five hundred million, and but not not Otani money.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
No, we thought like five point fifty max.
Speaker 7 (28:28):
Right, that is Oani money, but it's not Otani's contract.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
Right, Well, we thought he was going to be around
five hundred. No, he's he's it's going to be over
eight hundred.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
I remember we always say when people say, well, the
highest paid play, now Soda can make an argument that
he's just he's like in the tier that says you're
not Otani, You're not Otani, but you're you're the deck
right there, right, And so the highest paid player isn't
always your best player. It's the highest paid player when
the timing's perfect and you've come off a great season
(28:58):
or a great reputation and Soto's listen, if Otani's not
playing pro baseball, we're making an argument that Soto's the
best guy, the best player in the league. We started
that talk when he was nineteen years old, and how
good is this guy going to be well, he's just
he's doing exactly what why he drafted him and turned
him into a star. That's or he turned himself into
(29:20):
a star and everybody knows his name and he's been
the league it feels like twenty years and the guy
he is twenty six years old. So yeah, look out
if he and like I said, he's not fail proof,
no one is, but he's if there's a close to
a guarantee with some success in baseball, then you feel
pretty good that if you're going to pay that kind
of money, the guy's going to hit. He's not a
great defensive player by any stretch. As a matter of fact.
(29:42):
In truth, you'd probably like to somehow, some way move
him in time to left field. Right that's where you
at some point, if he's going to stay in the outfit,
that's where you want him. Yeah, because he's not a
premium gold Glove right fielder. He's in center fields. And
I'm not saying he's a liability, but he put it
this way. If you're standing with one on your foot
(30:02):
on the left foot on the right, and the left
foot's a little bit liability in the right foots gold Glover,
you're going to lean to the left part of your body.
He's not a great defensive outfielder, No he's not, but
he more than makes up for that. It's a lot
of money to play pay at DH. Is that what
we're saying? Yeah, but he You know, the truth is
is I would think is more natural position. At some
point if you could find a studdn right field, you know,
(30:24):
one of those guys that you'd prefer to move him
to left field.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
You know, all these contracts right, all this money being spent,
the deferred money for the Dodgers and things like that.
I'm just telling you, man, I said this last week,
and I know we were in agreeance, and you have
yord On Alvarez locked up until twenty twenty nine. His
contract the money if he continues to stay healthy and
continues to hit the way that he does, he's making
(30:48):
this coming season, he'll make fifteen point eight because of
the way that the contract is structured, and it goes
up to twenty six in twenty six point eight million,
and twenty twenty six, twenty seven and twenty twenty eight,
twenty twenty nine rolls around, he's gonna make easily over
thirty five mil. Who are you talking about. Yeah, that's
what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (31:07):
Yeah, I'm going because he's making think about that fifteen
sixteen million, what it's going to be like like you said,
and that.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
If he stays healthy and continues to hit the way
that he does, come on man, Yeah, and he'll be
at that time, he'll be thirty one going on thirty
two years old, so pretty much like what Bregman is now,
Like what thirty thirty one man. So that the money's
just going to continue to rise. We're gonna see at
some point the astros are going to have to start
(31:36):
spending money like big money.
Speaker 7 (31:38):
Yeah, I was gonna say they spend money a big
minute in droves.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (31:42):
Well if not, this is gonna be this is this
will become a win. But it's a bridge when the
guys want to get this. Ye I told you, guys
want two things. They want to get theirs and they
want to get theirs and getting theirs. First off is
the ring matters are I mean, it matters all the time,
but you want to get that. And most guys, when
you're fifteen years into your career and you haven't got
a ring yet, there's that stress. I don't want to
(32:02):
play my whole career without a ring. But you want
to get that ring, and you want to get years
and get yours and the ring team get yours. And
then once you got the ring, then the next one
to get yours is get your big stats. But so
it's really a trifecta. And another third one is get yours,
meaning the bag. So when I say yeah, I want
to get mine and get mine, that's get your ring
and get your money. And how do you do that?
Whill you go get the ring and help and then
(32:23):
all of a sudden you play great and when free
agency comes, you have your best season the planet, the
year during the year leading into free agency. That's the
perfection of it. And that's one Soto. He's got a
championship ring, he got it when he was in Washington,
and then gets this, you know, gets this tremendous MVP
season even though Judge won it played like one and
(32:45):
you know, in two other cities and one of the
best players of all time is on his fourth team
in four years, for five years whatever it's been, right,
a couple of years in San Diego. I mean, think
about that. Now he's eight hundred million dollars richer. But
what do you do when the pressure was on and
you need him to produce, and especially in a year
in New York him playing with the best player in
an American league and you're, by by all accounts a
(33:06):
couple of MVPs. And then you got him and you're
playing right for the whole thing. And he goes out
and rakes and here we are and he happens to
be twenty six not thirty six. Right, let's call the
guy who's got brass stones, dude. Yeah, because he ever
he was, they proved that he's clutching like in postseason,
(33:26):
and then all of a sudden, you know, he goes
and wins the All Star Game, home run to all
that stuff, and now the kapper he got his and
got his. Now the rest is gravy. Now you want
to take the Mets to a championship, which it's been
a minute.
Speaker 6 (33:37):
Yeah, so there you are. Yeah, and they've got some
good young talent on that team too.
Speaker 7 (33:40):
They played well this past year, so it's uh, it's
a hell of a move for them. Arms arms, arms healthy.
Speaker 6 (33:47):
Yeah, yep, Yeah, there's no doubt because they've got a
badass closer. Speaking of closers, the Astros trying to trade
Ryan Presley, what could that look like? That's next? Wor
Starck seven to eighty.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Salisbury show continues and it no, no, now you.
Speaker 6 (34:04):
Know you saw the report yesterday. Indeed I did. Johnny
saw too.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
Yeah, until he gives me six stomach Whenever there's kids
included their buddies, Man, he makes it hard because you
it's like you want to go off, but the things
you want to say you can't say radio you can't.
So no, you can't. Got zero compassion for him. Yeah, no, no,
that's children. No, no, com I don't care. I don't
care if you can sing your ass off or what
you've done in the past. I mean, you know people
(34:34):
that that's that's the where you're you're treading down a
different you're going down a different rabbit hole with that one. Buddy.
Speaker 6 (34:40):
Yeah, never really listened to really. Yeah, I was just gonna
ask you you like I knew he was around, like
your time arabs to him. You know the song Big Pimping, Yeah,
like that was like if I heard it, but I couldn't.
You know the song Tripley. I think I want to
say bun Bee was in that one. This was back
in the ear in the nineties or whatever, early to Thoully.
But other than that, I was never been a jay
(35:02):
Z fan. Everyone at one point said that jay Z
was like the greatest rapper our past. Now now it's
coming out about his personal life and everything that they
got going on. Now, I'll be.
Speaker 7 (35:12):
Honest, I haven't spent I mean, I listened, but it's
not like I got twenty five of her songs in
my playlist either. His wife's Yeah, it's never been. It's
never been. Neither one have ever been a needle mover
for so but listen all that. I'm from a distance,
hard to judge. But if it's true what they're saying,
(35:33):
how on the yeah, yeah, Well, I think we all
have a feeling for what is and what isn't right,
But I I can't there there there's no when it
comes to kids, you got you you you don't.
Speaker 6 (35:45):
You don't get you don't get it passed.
Speaker 7 (35:47):
You don't get one hat, not only a hall passion,
you get no compassion, you get no no there there,
there's there's nothing, and whatever comes to you from that
you deserve it as long as it's not letting you off, right. Okay,
so it's all right because he's going to be standing
shoulder to shoulder with a whole bunch of others.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (36:05):
If all this is true, which it appears that they're like, well,
it's like it's like cockroaches when the light comes on. Yeah,
scatter everywhere, leave and going threatening. Oh just coincidence. Sure, exactly.
I'm not the judge of the jerry from my I
have my opinion. Everybody has theirs, and that's why I say, allegedly,
if it's the case, we all have yeah, no thanks, no,
(36:29):
you know, we say leave kids alone.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (36:32):
Yeah, there's a lot of things to leave alone. And
that's at the top of the friggin list.
Speaker 6 (36:35):
Yeah, there's no doubt. Man seven seven, and he talking
about the Astros and what they need to do for
free agency. Let's go to John John welcome in.
Speaker 7 (36:44):
Hey guys.
Speaker 14 (36:44):
Hey, Hey, first off, I agree with everything you should
about jay Z. I'm just curious what Beyonce is gonna
end up doing through all this. But yeah, I think,
you know, getting to the Astros, the Astros have got
to make up their mind what they're going, what what
they're about. You know, they've won their championships, and they
maintained their excellence because they've drafted well. They're probably the best,
(37:07):
one of the best franchises around as far as player
development and uh, you know, getting the most out of
their players when they're young and hungry. And it's a
recipe that I agree with. I agree with what Crane
is doing. It's worked for them. They've been what uh
uh you know, uh leaders of their vision in the
past eight years, right, they won the and uh been
(37:27):
of the been of the World Series and all that,
and it's been a formula that works. I don't think
they can go around chasing you know, the high priced guys.
I just can't. I I believe that they have to.
They just can't be making deals like the Kokuchi deal.
I mean, Kuchi got us and got us into the playoffs.
He was a big factor. But we gave up a
(37:49):
lot and Toronto's going to be a lot stronger this
year as a result of that, and we lost we
lost some good talent. We can't be doing that if
our if our formula is going to be building through
the miners, like we got the best years out of Springer,
we got the best years out of Korea, we got
the best years out of Breakman, he's not going to
get better, and we got to I think that's a
(38:11):
formula we got to stick by. I mean, you saw
Baltimore didn't do anything crazy. They got their I mean,
they're they're building through the farm system and they've got
a good core that's going to last a long time.
But they're going to they might break through eventually, and
I think the askers have got to stick to that.
They can't be throwing money at one player. I believe
(38:32):
it's worth it if you get a good picture, you know,
like what we did with Verlander back in twenty seventeen
and stuff. But I think that that's what the answers
have got to decide what they're about. And I just
can't see paying Bragman over two hundred million.
Speaker 6 (38:48):
I just can't.
Speaker 14 (38:49):
And I don't know, it's just hard for me to
swallow that. Juan Soto is a different matter. I mean,
that guy's special, he's young. That's still a lot of
money though, But I mean the Mets have built through
the farm system. A lot of teams are kind of
following what the Astros have done through the years, and
that's because some of the Astro front office has left
for other teams and they're employing the same strategy. And
(39:13):
I just think that they got to focus on good drafting,
player development, developing these players, and you know, it's it's
it's allowed them to compete all these years, and I
think they should stick.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
With it, I really do.
Speaker 14 (39:27):
I just don't want to see them getting caught up
in this because I just don't see it paying off.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
I just don't.
Speaker 14 (39:33):
And anyways, I just want to chime in on that.
Speaker 7 (39:36):
So you you're all for letting Bregman go if they
don't get to this price, right? Yeah, absolutely got you, brother,
Thank you, good call.
Speaker 6 (39:42):
Appreciate you, John. And you know we've talked about it, Sean.
The formula that Jim Crane has when it comes to
these these contracts, how do you go on to rip
success because it's been successful, right, how do you all
done a really good job of developing players? I think
at some point you're going to have to give out
one or two big contracts. Though, in my opinion, I
get the development aspect of it, right, But let's let's
be real here. The minor league system for the Astros
(40:03):
is not as good as it once was. Greg That
league just don't have the it's the numbers on his right.
It's not wrong, right. And even Dana Brown, we played
that audio earlier this hour, Dana Brown said that these
guys that could be internal replacements for Ox Bregman are
still six to eight months away, a year away. And
surprise you, right, And that's that. I would assume that's
(40:25):
Shay Wickhamb, that's Zach Dezenzo, and that's Bryce Matthews. They're
very high on Bryce Matthews, but he's only been up
to double A. I think he got up to triple
A late last year. We saw Shaye Wickhamb, we saw
his Zenzo in the big leagues. This past year. You
got John Singleton over at first base. That's not your
long term plan. He still got to figure out first base.
He's still got to figure out center field. And if
you lose Bregmant, what are you gonna do with their base?
(40:45):
So there's still a lot of question marks as we
lead into the winter meetings right here or not right here,
but in the state up in Dallas.
Speaker 7 (40:52):
So this week, yeah, it is. So let me ask
you this, if they lose Bregman, is it an absolute
must that they turn around and spend a lot of money,
maybe somewhere in the same region for a star for
fan optics. Do they have to do something to offset
(41:15):
the loss of another free agent, a guy who's like
a legacy star here for the last they really started, right,
they're part of an original group. Is there a part
of this says, oh, now, then we're gonna have to
go overpay some other star. And it may be in
another position, center field, first base, whatever I bopper right
where you say, well, we just could have paid that
(41:36):
to if If that's how you're thinking, is do you
think they need to make a major splash if you
lose bregmant On, not just for the success of the team,
but also for the optics of.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
We let another one go.
Speaker 7 (41:51):
You know that feeling really be a second one, even
though he's just here, but that you're you're basically losing
six players or five players, And here's why you lost
three prospects, Kokuchi and and Bregman. That's really what you've
what's happened since AUGUSTA. If that, if, if that does happen,
(42:11):
that's and more than likely you're going to lose another
one with Presley. Depend on what you get back with
your probably prospects. I imagine you're not looking for another
eighth inning guy. He wants to close and then wherever
else you're going. But you really think about it, that
that would that would you've lost five players if Bregman leaves,
the three that you expect to impact your franchise at
some point and two that have impacted one longer than
(42:33):
the other.
Speaker 6 (42:33):
Right, Yeah, let's discuss that. As we get into the
seven o'clock hour, Astros need to make a move to
try to get Bregman. What's it going to cost? Well,
they're fifty million dollars apart, reportedly from Bob nine and go.
Let's talk about a next right here on seven.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
Ninety a Houston HD two Houston, an iHeart radio station
and the Rocket Sports Talk seven ninety your home for
your homes.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
Salisbury Old Very Salsbrey, Houston.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 5 (43:11):
Sean Salisbury, there to usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (43:17):

Speaker 15 (44:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (44:07):
Special wish is also to our guy Mattress Mac, who's
been a big part of our here at iHeart our show,
friend and every well a friend of the city, but
as big a difference makers there as he's going to
go and have some surgery this week.
Speaker 6 (44:21):
That's tomorrow, yep.
Speaker 7 (44:22):
Yeah, and we're pulling for you, brother, and everybody loves you,
and I know the support system, well, it's nice all
the support you've given everybody for so long. It's always
nice that people continue as they always have them coming
to your shop. But also with this well wishes and support,
you get healthy quickly. I have a hunch we're gonna
blink and Ma's going to be back at the store
making sure everybody gets a call. And he answers the
phone and takes care of him all. And he's a
(44:44):
tough dude now, so I would expect this to keep
him down for about eight seconds, okay, and then good
to go. So we're pulling for you, Mac, yep, and
we love you man, appreciate you, yep. Thoughts for mattress Mac.
Speaker 6 (44:57):
He's going to go for open heart surgery tomorrow, so
hope the best uh for matchs legend.
Speaker 7 (45:02):
Max Max Moore, He's like Chuck Norris when he goes
in there's way better than what I said. When he
goes in there, the doctor, the heart, the heart's afraid
to act up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I gotch so tough.
Speaker 6 (45:15):
There you go. Yeah, there's no doubt. Seven one, three, two, two,
five seven eighties never to join us. Get back up
to the phone lines, biscuit, what's up?
Speaker 4 (45:21):
Man? Hey?
Speaker 2 (45:22):
What's that?
Speaker 15 (45:23):
My brothers already once again once again shout I'm I'm
gonna stay back and watch. I'm not going to judge.
Speaker 2 (45:30):
We go see.
Speaker 15 (45:32):
Hopefully young lady get up there and you know, and
we'll you know, let the evidence, you know, what's done
in the dark. It'll come to night. Yeah, I'm not
gonna you know, I'm not gonna put my finger on
the scale and.
Speaker 5 (45:43):
Say one way.
Speaker 7 (45:45):
This is one of those that the hard time for
me on this one because it's not like it happened
four days ago. This has been going on for a
long time and people have been doing a deep dive.
I'm not saying they've been doing it for a long time,
but the looking into this and we're all on the
out side looking in. Uh, there's a lot of smoke there.
And I'm with you now one hundred percent of the time.
(46:07):
Sit back and let's let's let it have for But
it's not like it happened last week and we're talking
about today. This This has been a long and you know,
if they're going to deep dive and the FEDS and
that group is involved in this, they don't jump into
something just by happenstance. So I don't know, and you're
exactly right, and I mean we were, I don't know if.
Speaker 4 (46:27):
U is that the.
Speaker 6 (46:33):
That situation. It's a civil thing. But the I think
where the Feds get involved is because jay Z is
also mentioned in the P Diddy loss.
Speaker 7 (46:40):
That's the part I talk. I'm not this thing there.
You've got to compartmentalize, like you said, we've always said
brisk biscuit and be able to do it. But the
smoke of the fire that it almost feels you almost
feel like you're weaving them in, but you can't they.
I mean, you's got to be dealt with individually. And
you're right, we always got to sit back and do it.
I mean, I everybody's going to have their opinion and
feelings on it. But it's the P Diddy thing that
(47:01):
his name, you know, has been mentioned on which that's
where the FEDS are obviously heavily involved in this case
a civil situation. Hell, I don't know what happened then,
but as we're saying, regardless if it's Hi or anybody else,
leave the kids alone, right, So I think that's on point.
So however, it turns out the people a lot smarter
than us, and people who passed the not only pass
the judgment, but the legal stuff were going to take
(47:22):
care of this one way or the other. And you're right.
If he did it, hopefully it'll be found out. If
he didn't, then hopefully it'll be found out. Agreed both ways, Yes, sir.
Speaker 15 (47:30):
Then the Rockets man I was watching last night, Man,
is is his interesting to see Porter Junior on the
other squad and trying to you know, how it would
have been if he could have been with Idoka and
this team, You know, it would have been maybe interesting
to see.
Speaker 7 (47:48):
You know, do you think they'd be better with him,
Biscuit or do you like the fact that that was
cleared out and he's no longer part of it.
Speaker 15 (47:55):
I think they I think they probably would be better
with him. I think he uh Ported Junior or just
like some of the other guys, they just needed to
they like a little disciplined. I think the talent is there.
They just like discipline, and that's what he dope for.
Bring see, you're gonna be disciplined if you're playing with him,
you ain't gonna be just doing your own thing right,
And I think that was the problem.
Speaker 7 (48:15):
With Do you think he could have helped kicked Do
you think he could have helped kicked Porter and got
him on.
Speaker 6 (48:20):
The right track?
Speaker 4 (48:21):
Got him on the right track.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
It's like he's done. Jalen.
Speaker 15 (48:24):
And you see Jalen last night. It's like, okay, this dude, man,
Jalen is man.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
Jalen is slowly be sure.
Speaker 15 (48:30):
They ready right him out of town. They slowly but
surely becoming.
Speaker 4 (48:34):
Man.
Speaker 15 (48:34):
He that's around with the All Star next year.
Speaker 7 (48:36):
Man, Man, he's impressive probably this year maybe ye impressive.
Speaker 15 (48:42):
Last thing, Sean the committee. Man, do you think they
be thinking these things through Sean? Because we got how
you playing Notre Dame?
Speaker 2 (48:50):
My my my.
Speaker 15 (48:51):
I don't think I'm trying to remember the last time
how you know that they even played football?
Speaker 2 (48:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (48:56):
And their their proximity is not that far apart, right,
it's it's odd. Yeah, yep, So here we go.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
Okay, look at that.
Speaker 6 (49:08):
What a shock.
Speaker 7 (49:09):
Yeah. Yeah, we want some regional bias. Let's go, we
want some We want everybody in this region to love it.
Yeah they don't. They don't do it by chance. Okay,
we know that. And we're going to talk at this Yeah,
we're going to talk to this hour about the you know,
the twelve and did they get it right and the
rest of it. So I don't think I mean as
far as the teams go, I don't think they're far off.
Speaker 15 (49:29):
Many said many Alabama better hope Clemson loses, you know.
Speaker 7 (49:37):
That's it, right, or that they that Clemson beats down
ask MU to the point of embarrassment if you're Alabat,
you know, but that that didn't happen, which opened the door.
It ended like we said, well, what if it's a
walk off type of situation, And that's exactly exactly what
happened to good football teams and both of them got in,
so we'll discuss it. Good stuff, my man, appreciate you,
appreciate your insight always, man, Thank you. I think what
(50:00):
he's thought, you know what. The jay Z stuff and hard.
It's hard to compartmentalize for people. I'm sure it is,
especially when the kids thing. But like I said, we're
all from a distance. I hadn't read anything about other
than what we read in paper here, right, but it
just it's I guess we all it's all cringe worthy
when you're.
Speaker 6 (50:16):
Talking about children. Yeah, that's the yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 7 (50:19):
And then the tie in with the Fed's part as
I'm talking about, because they've been linked to that, right, Yeah,
he link doesn't mean anything no, in this.
Speaker 6 (50:25):
Quote unquote or not quote unquote. Let me take that
back in the civil lawsuit, which is a quote, it's
p Diddy and jay Z together with this allegation, right,
which is part of the compartmentalized This is not the
whole of it. This is just this one isolated situation incident.
They're talking about Tony Buzby leading the way for the victim.
(50:49):
So it's uh, either kids a low man and uh,
I don't ever go to one of those parties. No,
stay away from the Diddy parties real quick. Let's grab
Adrian before getting stake out, Adrian, what's happening?
Speaker 8 (51:04):
Said fella? Jay Z goes you sick, Pos. But there
was you know, bread crumbs all the way. Our last
bread crumb was when pdd he got busted and got arrested.
All of a sudden, jay Z got off his socials.
Speaker 4 (51:21):
I wonder why squawk squad.
Speaker 8 (51:23):
He knew the bird had been arrested. He was just
waiting on how long. So I'm glad I never represented
that pos.
Speaker 4 (51:30):
Biscuit. I know you listening. Y'all better listen to Biscuit.
Y'all better catch them rockets.
Speaker 6 (51:36):
Them boys need some support.
Speaker 4 (51:38):
Trust me. This is a team you gonna want to watch.
Speaker 8 (51:42):
Great game last night, NFL referees, you are sad National TV.
Yesterday you watch the Buffalo Bills go all the way.
Speaker 4 (51:53):
Down the field.
Speaker 8 (51:56):
Tom Brady pointed it out. You had a man offside
or false start blatantly there wasn't one flag.
Speaker 6 (52:06):
Same on you boys, astros.
Speaker 8 (52:10):
Jim Crane should get everybody in that top office this morning,
look at everybody and go, hey, it's winter meetings. Reggie,
Jeff take a vacation this year. Data is going to
do his job by hisself.
Speaker 4 (52:28):
There will be no.
Speaker 8 (52:30):
Right ear conversation unless it's Dan No by itself.
Speaker 4 (52:34):
For the rest of y'all, it's Monday, Waldhorns.
Speaker 6 (52:39):
Way to cost it up, ha ha.
Speaker 4 (52:41):
Just get them dogs and spend that money. This morning.
Speaker 8 (52:45):
My pharmacists just left the kids sleeping before I got
about two hours that hang out with myself and celebrate
this morning.
Speaker 4 (52:54):
It's Monday.
Speaker 8 (52:55):
Everybody, have a good day into your real listeners.
Speaker 6 (53:00):
See later, Adrian appreciate it. We got a lot to
get into this morning. Obviously, the Wan Soto news, that's
the first massive domino to fall in Major League Baseball.
What are the Met's going to do with Pete A. Lonzo.
Of course, the Alex Bregman and Astros talk will continue.
We've got college football. We got a breakdown because the
bracket was released. A lot of people are upset Alabama
(53:21):
didn't get in. Joel Clott had some things to say,
Kirby Smart had some things to say. For Georgia a
lot to get into. Hang out with us up until
ten o'clock this morning. Let's get to the stakeout next
right here on Sports Talk seven to eighty.
Speaker 7 (53:33):
Hey, this holiday, give them what they really want. Give
holiday scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery. They're the perfect gift,
and you could be giving falla la la la la,
la la la lots of cash. Right, so, give holiday
scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery and you could make
holiday very merry. It's a good gift to give, right
there's some coin, there's a chance, it's some big cash
(53:54):
and a happy feeling on the Texas Lottery. It's the
perfect gift. Give those holiday scratch tickets from the Texas
Lottery and make their holiday very special. That's the Texas Lottery.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
Change your Loofah sponge monthly great and right now listen
to more Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
That's your job, man. Don't you get paid for.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
A pro tip from Houston's official listen while scrubbing your
butt Morning Sports show.
Speaker 6 (54:25):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 3 (54:28):
The Salisbury takeout? Salisbury takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (54:38):
It's time for the steak out Here on the Sean
Salisbury Show, Sean Bryn and Tripley Rockets beat the Clippers.
Texans getting ready for the Dolphins. The college football playoff
bracket is set. Wan Soto headed to the Mets on
a big time deal that broke last night. Excuse me,
(54:59):
all right, John four the East steakout. Obviously, the college
football playoff bracket is set. We will dig into that
a lot this morning, but I want to start with
the game on Friday night. Boise State takes down UNLV
(55:19):
twenty one to seven. Ashton gent the running back for
Boise State thirty two carries, two hundred and nine yards,
one touchdown. Is he going to win the Heisman?
Speaker 7 (55:39):
I think Dylan Gabriel made another another, took another step,
but he's not gonna win it. To me, and a
look at the numbers as good as Patrick Patrick. I played,
I had, I was a teammate a Patrick Hunter as
good as Travis Hunter has been. And while he's been
fantastic on both sides, the numbers are too gottie. And
(56:00):
to go rush for two hundred more in your championship game,
it's clockwork. The guy gets stopped, the guy gets stopped,
busts the seventy yarder, guy gets stopped, gets stopped, busts
the thirty yarder, and he runs hard. If I was
voting today, I would cast it for gent second, probably Hunter.
(56:25):
And I'll be honest with you. I know it's a
quarterback award, but I'm telling you what where you're going,
Scataboo may deserve it just as much as anybody his number.
Look at his season, his numbers compare to any of them,
and he's on a championship team and he is the
best player on that team. And I'm telling you, NFL
(56:45):
scouts drool over guys like this because he's tough, hard
nosed transfer from what Sacks State or wherever it was,
and love him because he's the perfect coaches I mean,
just works his ass off. When coach says, go get
something done, he gets something done. And for anybody who
had a question over the thing about could all these
new teams switch, Well, Texas got beat by Georgia, but
it was a close game. Texas's belongs in the SEC
(57:07):
and played their ass off. Arizona State, former Pac twelve
team is the Big twelve champion. Oregon former Pac twelve
team is your Big ten champion. So for all those
who had questions, could these schools go to somewhere else
and play good football, you've seen it. So that's three
of the four major conferences. I mean that one was
in it, meaning that in their first year in it,
(57:29):
had a chance to win the conference with their first
year in it. Do you know that Arizona State, by
all accounts, was picked last by prognosticators to finish in
the conference. Yeah, they're now the four seed in the
national championship race in the playoffs. Kenny Dillingham's the national
coach of the year.
Speaker 6 (57:49):
Yeah, there's no doubt.
Speaker 7 (57:53):
Yes, and turned it around like that. And it's at
is alma mater. Yeah, and listen, monk and it Army
deserves a ton of votes. I mean, we listen, we
can go any There's rhet lashly at SMU and leave
him out, Sataki at Byu. There's been some phenomenal coaching jobs,
(58:14):
none better than Kenny Dillingham. I can tell you that.
So But yeah, dude, if they pick five guy, if
they're allowed to pick five people to go to New York,
it's got to be Ward Scataboo, Genty Hunter, and Dylan Gabriel.
Those are your five. The quarterback on the number one
(58:37):
team in the country is going to finish in the
top three more than likely. But I'm telling you the
three best football players in the country don't play quarterback,
and that is in no particular order. Scataboo, Hunter and
Genty or Genty Hunter, Scataboo Hunter, Genty, Scataboo. I don't
care how you slice it. I'm not arguing if any
(59:00):
him win it too late a groundswell for Scoutaboo to
win it, but he should be in New York.
Speaker 6 (59:04):
He has, let's see on the ground this year and
sixty eight yards rushing with nineteen touchdowns Receiving, he's got
five hundred and six yards, he's got over two thousand
all purpose yards, and he's got three three receiving touchdowns
over two thousand yards. On the big twelve championship team
(59:26):
and they dominated Iowa State.
Speaker 7 (59:28):
Beat him, beat him, to beat him down, breaks off
of him. He belongs in New York. He said, he's
had a freaking great season. And you know on my
favorite thing about that game. Watched the UNLV and Boise
State play. Did you see Genty and Blitz pick up?
Speaker 4 (59:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (59:44):
Oh he was slaying the wood man. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (59:47):
That all the running and all that stuff that people.
I'm telling you these NFL scouts, when you're scouting a guy,
do we take him in the first round? Now with
Backs and hell, they've re emerged this year as a
big part of what teams have to It's been that
every year. But you can't devalue the way the Backs
have played this year. You just can't. But with with
with Genty, I'm telling you they are going to be
(01:00:08):
drooling over going and watching him on tape and saying, oh,
we don't have to take him out of the game
in pass protection because he will knock your you know
what right in the dirt. And I appreciate that. That
was my favorite thing he did, aside from rushing for
two hundred more yards. So yeah, my Heisman Trophy vote
today goes to genty. He rushed the best NFL prosidy mean,
(01:00:28):
best NFL prospect is Hunter in my in my opinion,
but the best player in college football on a continuous space.
I know they're going to argue, well, didn't play in
a you know, in a bigger cover. That's you can
make an argument, well, Colorado didn't make it to the
final can we argue that or to the playoff? And
both Boise State, Arizona State, and all three o Oregon
did But you can't take that away from Hunter. He
(01:00:49):
did everything that was asked of him and then some
he's a freak show. But to do what gent he
did this year was different, a different level and consistency.
I would vote him first.
Speaker 6 (01:00:59):
You know, thing as we uh, like I said, we're
gonna get into this playoff bracket. One thing that I
would like to see is these teams that get this
first round by Arizona State, Oregon, Boise State, Georgia. They
all get first round bys, but they don't get to
play at home, right because then you go into the
bowls like Arizona State's gonna play in the Peach Bowl,
Oregon's gonna play in the Rose Bowl, Boise State's in
(01:01:19):
the Fiesta Bowl, and then Georgia's in the Sugar Bowl.
How the hell did How the hell did Georgia get
the Sugar Bowl? They get to play right down the
road in Louisiana.
Speaker 7 (01:01:30):
They get the Sugar Bowl?
Speaker 4 (01:01:31):
No, like what what? Well?
Speaker 7 (01:01:33):
You know how they got the Sugar Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:01:36):
All I'm saying is I would have loved to see
from there. Yes, of course, because that that thick air.
If it's a foggy, cool night, yeah, good luck if
it's in there. They faced the winner of SMU and
Penn State. Imagine SMU beats Penn State with trying to
throw the football. Yeah, good luck trying to do that
in Boise, Idaho.
Speaker 7 (01:01:54):
Yeah, I mean, are you shocked that they're getting to
play there?
Speaker 16 (01:01:58):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:01:58):
Okay, no, nor should be.
Speaker 6 (01:02:01):
No, I'm actually surprised they're not playing on the I'm
surprised they're not playing in the Peach Bowl.
Speaker 7 (01:02:04):
The biggest decision Georgie's gotta yeah, no doubt George has
got to make is if their quarterback's healthy. Carson Beck
You started that injury was pretty pretty bur Yeah, it was.
It was a bad look and he's tough and he
had a yeah, obviously a better year last year. I
hate to see him get hurt. But the backup came
in and it felt stetson Benisch. Yeah, just the energy
(01:02:28):
I'm talking about. You don't wish that on. But I'm
telling you what, and you can tell Kirby Smart in
that post game postgame interview belief in this backup quarterback. Yeah,
he's got game and he's got feet. So we'll see
what their decision is as they go, uh or maybe
they'll let the game play it out. We'll see.
Speaker 6 (01:02:44):
We have the college football playoff of bracket right here
in front of us, and we will share it with you.
Seven one, three, two point two five. Seven ninety is
the ever to join the show as we get into
some college football next.
Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
In Sports Talk seven ninety, the Sewn Salisbury Show continued,
Let's talk to q Q.
Speaker 4 (01:03:02):
Good morning, Hey, good morning guys.
Speaker 17 (01:03:06):
Regarding the playoffs, the only thing that looks strange to
me is you know that they made Clemson twelve and
SMU eleven, which make no sense consider they just beat them.
But they did it for proximity purposes, for Indiana's fans
to get played Notre Dame, which is a good game
you know, I can understand that.
Speaker 4 (01:03:26):
Clemson to go play Texas, which is a great homecoming for.
Speaker 17 (01:03:31):
Kate Clubney at the quarterback at Clemson, who's about lives
about a mile and a half from Austin from UT campus,
so that's a great, great thing there for him.
Speaker 4 (01:03:40):
I'm still friends with him and his parents.
Speaker 17 (01:03:42):
But what I would like to see is, yes, those
teams have home games, but after that first round, you
need to do it like the NFL. One Oregon should
play the highest seeded team that wins. So if the
twelve seed wins, they should go play Oregon, you know,
And I think it's it's unfair for that to the
(01:04:04):
way that they lined it up.
Speaker 7 (01:04:06):
Well, you want the best to play the word. You
want the best to play the worst seed, the highest
seed to play the next worst seed, and just like
they do one place, twelve two would play eleven if
you if you could have it that way right.
Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
Absolutely like they were doing the NFL right, you know,
like they were doing the NFL, which is just fair.
That means the team who worked hard all year to
be number one.
Speaker 17 (01:04:27):
You know, if the eleventh seed wins and then the
five seed wins, I don't think they should be playing
the five seed. They should be playing eleven seed. You know,
that's just my opinion. It was a great game by
asking you. They came back and made it, you know,
after a rough start. But I think, uh, and i'd
shot you and I talked, you know, Saturday night after
(01:04:47):
the game. You know, if Carson Bik can't play, are
they the same team?
Speaker 14 (01:04:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:04:52):
You're thinking better? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Right with the kid.
Speaker 7 (01:04:55):
You're thinking about Florida State. What happened there? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (01:04:59):
You know what the Florida State. The truth is, I
think with Florida State's starter playing the backup, you realize
how good you weren't or how bad you were. And
when you had that starter, you knew that that was
he was a complete difference maker on this case and
last year's Carson Beck, you'd say you'd feel similar. But
right now, after what you saw in the movie and
(01:05:19):
the struggle he's had this year and throwing turnovers, just
it hasn't been He hasn't taken steps forward this year,
and I hate to see him hurt. I do, But
I actually think you sitting that committee room, if I
was a committee member in there, I would have said,
I'm not so sure Georgia isn't better, and do not
be shocked if they're in position to win the national title.
I honestly feel that way. I don't know who's gonna play,
(01:05:41):
but I don't think they take a big step back
with a backup quarterback.
Speaker 17 (01:05:44):
I don't, right, as long as this guy who's playing playing,
if the backup has to play, as long as he's
not turning the ball over, George's got a chance.
Speaker 7 (01:05:52):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 4 (01:05:53):
That's my thing, Paul, And I.
Speaker 17 (01:05:55):
Think you know, even here in Austin, I think UT
showed that they're a good football team, but they gave
up so many opportunities in the first half to really
put Georgia in a bad spot by kicking all those
field goals and missing field goals. UT has not beat
a good team this year except for Texas A and
M that's the best team that they beat. So they're
(01:06:18):
gonna have to show people that, yeah, they played the
SEC championship game and they played a great season there,
but they gotta beat somebody. They didn't get LSU, oh,
Miss Alabama or South Carolina, So they're gonna have to
show that, you know what, yeah, we played it, but
and we're a really good top ten football team.
Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
Because you know, when you play.
Speaker 17 (01:06:41):
Your two best, your hardest games twice against the same
opponent and you can't win either one of them.
Speaker 4 (01:06:46):
One of them was a really butt kicking in Austin.
You know they're not. You just couldn't figure it out.
Speaker 7 (01:06:51):
It's only gonna get tougher in the se Yeah, it's
only gonna get tougher in the SEC moving forward as well.
When this one you have to play those teams you mentioned,
there's no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
Yeah, in my team this year, I pick I'll pick
Oregon to win it all. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:07:04):
If everybody plays their best, I have a hard time
thinking they're not gonna win it. That's just me.
Speaker 4 (01:07:08):
Yeah, I'm with you, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 7 (01:07:11):
Appreciate your great stuff. Yeah, have a great week man,
Thank you. Yeah, it would seem like that you would,
wouldn't you really? Rather has an Oregon earned the right
to play the lowest of the worst seed.
Speaker 6 (01:07:20):
Yeah, And I think that's the that's the big excuse me,
The big the big bitch about every everything is the
way that it's seeded after that first round. So the
bracket goes Clemson, Texas, that's the twelve and the five,
they get the Arizona State game or excuse me, the
Peach Bowl against Arizona State. Then it's Tennessee, Ohio State.
(01:07:43):
That's the nine and eight matchup. They play Oregon in
the Rose Bowl SMU Penn State that's the eleven and
six seed matchup. They take on Boise State in the
Fiesta Bowl, Indiana Notre Dame. That's the ten and the
seven taking on Georgia and the Sugar Bowl.
Speaker 7 (01:07:57):
Why should a three seed and the four seed play
weaker schedule than the one seed.
Speaker 6 (01:08:01):
Yeah, that's that's that's the that's the seeding of it.
Speaker 7 (01:08:04):
That part bothers me. I don't think you can say
all you want. I'm not sitting here. I said it.
I asked the question to you guys last week in
the middle of the week. If Alabama was favored or
if you're playing these other eleven teams and even one
or two outside it, would Alabama be favored and you'd
probably say favored in about even on a neutral site,
(01:08:26):
what seven or eight of them?
Speaker 6 (01:08:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:08:28):
But how you get there and how you do it?
Three losses? Hell, we had him. When they took their
third loss, everybody immediately said up, Alabama's done just like
Dad LSU, just like they did all missed when that happened.
So there's no argument that Alabama, if they were in
the tournament, has the potential to roll through it and
be in the final four. And what Yeah, but does Alabama.
(01:08:48):
We can say, well, Alabama could be SMU. Yeah, well
then we're supposed to say, well, this team can be Clemson,
and then this team can be Arizona State, and I
mean we can go through all that. I can just
tell you this. For me, I have no issue with
SMU being in over Alabama.
Speaker 4 (01:09:07):
No.
Speaker 7 (01:09:07):
As as far as the teams that are in it,
I think they got it right. The teams, yeah, not
the seeding, No, yeah, I would agree. It is weird
Clemson beats SMU even though it's to come back and close,
and they're a lower seed.
Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
Yeah, they're the number twelve seed right, and I don't.
Speaker 7 (01:09:24):
Care what the proximity is to. They should not get
a higher seat if you don't feel they're a better team. Now,
some of us think that they played ten times SMU
and then would split SEU Clemson, But for me, it
only makes sense that the number one seed should play
the easiest, should play the easiest playoff schedule because of
(01:09:45):
if there is such a thing, because of meaning the
lower seeds they should be playing the Oregon should have
the best path to that. Yeah, they should, just should.
I mean I don't I think that they I would too,
I would reseed it. I mean, when it comes to
the first round, Oregon should be able to play the
(01:10:06):
lowest seed. Don't you agree?
Speaker 6 (01:10:08):
Well that that's the whole point of being the number
one seedon right?
Speaker 7 (01:10:10):
Didn't that what you to try to go undefeated for
and do all those things? So yeah, I don't have
a problem with twelve teams in it. Though I know
Alabama fans I could put you in I wouldn't. I
wouldn't have bitched either. But to be honest with you,
legacy and history, SMU lost twice. Yeah, and SMU I
think are in the.
Speaker 6 (01:10:28):
Right to be there. Yeah, and SMU lost on a
walk off field goal in the ACC title game. Yeah,
Alabama lost to a six It got blown out to
a six and six OU team. When you look at
their losses Vanderbilt, Tennessee and OU. Okay Tennessee, they're in
the playoff. Okay, close game, dude, you got your ass
(01:10:49):
kicked by Vanderbilt and ou you're not getting in, not
with three.
Speaker 7 (01:10:51):
I don't care if it's Alabama or not. Like I said,
the hottest team for me that got left out. We
knew they didn't have a chance, but got left out.
If you got South Carolina and that's South Carolina dangerous.
Oh yeah, so everybody's got to complain. I mean, Army
is sitting on the outside. They still haven't played Navy.
They got on another game. They got a major bitch.
They've got a bitch, of course they do. Yeah, so
and they're only lost what so far? Is it the
hands of number seven, Notre Dame. Yeah, so yeah, that's it.
(01:11:15):
But if I it's the seating that bothers me more
than the twelve. Yeah, I'm not really that pissed off
that Alabama. I mean it's like SMU, Well that was
our biggest question. If SMU plays close, will they get in.
I don't know, they're going to try to move them out.
You know, maybe it's Alabama, but they played close enough
in quality enough football that you know, a walk off
field goal ended it for him and they still got in.
(01:11:37):
And I think that's great. Think about where the SMU
program has come from.
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:11:42):
Yeah, think about Arizona State. Look look at this Boise
State and you could you wouldn't had no argument of
BYU and the Army were somehow put in if it
was sixteen teams.
Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
Right.
Speaker 7 (01:11:51):
So yeah, I couldn't be more proud of what SMU
has done. And I'm happy for a lot of my
buddies that we either went to school or played there.
And it's great state of Texas and it's just great
for the program. Keep an eye on the nil in
that program. As we've said, we'll continue to mention it.
It is such a great place, man. A lot of
money there, A lot of money.
Speaker 6 (01:12:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:12:13):
Maybe because it's a small private school a lot maybe
doesn't get talked about as much when we don't hear
about the money because it is a private school. You know,
they don't make it public and their coaching salaries and
all that. I got news for you. There's some CEOs
rolling around this state that are from there.
Speaker 6 (01:12:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:12:29):
They got plenty of money, yeah, to fund whatever it
is they want to do. It's such a great area,
beautiful place Lord Greenville right, oh, god Man Island Park, Ye, Yeah,
a lot a lot of.
Speaker 6 (01:12:39):
Money up there. Let's continue to look at the college
football playoff bracket. Also Alabama's ad complaining about strength of
schedule and what he wants to do for that program
going forward. But there's one crucial point that he has
left out in his complaining. That's next on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:12:58):
Men's Tea Clinic MEN'ST Clinic dot com. I believe to
my knowledge, and I think my knowledge is fair. Right
now that we are extending what you've got in November
right on through two December. Right December, all that's going on,
(01:13:20):
we're going to consider. Please pop into Men's T Clinic

te shot which allows their T tests, should I say,
which allows them to get their test oftional check to
(01:13:42):
see if they're in lower gear and then to go
about fixing it. That's the whole thing. Lower gear sucks.
And at Christmas time there's a lot going on. And
here's why there's the Christmas time of you know, being
a little bit depressed. Maybe you don't have your family around,
maybe you lose energy because you don't want to spend money.
All that goes along. It's stressful and you're heading into
January trying to finish up a work if you're in
(01:14:03):

convenient locations, Great Health and Wellness Wellness Optimization Group, and
there is no better. It's Men'stclinic dot com, MEN'ST Clinic
(01:14:45):
dot com or nine to seven two go Men's Tea.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
And we're about there for the Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 6 (01:14:54):
That bracket is set. Uh Alabama's ad read what and
he tweeted out yesterday he said disappointed with the outcome
and felt we were one of the twelve best teams
in the country. We had an extremely challenging schedule and
(01:15:14):
recognized there were two games in particular that we did
not perform as well as we should have. We have
said that we would need to show how strength of
schedule would be evaluated by the College Football Playoff. With
this outcome, we need to assess how many powerful non
conference games makes sense in the future to put us
in the best position to participate in the College Football Playoff.
That is not good for college football. With that said,
(01:15:37):
we do not need to hang our heads and now
we need to finish this season strong. We have a
great group of young men who have led us with
coach Debor through the last year, and we look forward
to our opportunity in the Reliah Quest Bowl role Tide.
One thing that he's forgetting Sean is that all of
his losses. Alabama's losses came in conference play. The non
(01:16:00):
conference schedule was one of the easiest in the country,
playing two group of five schools. They played Western Kentucky,
they played Southern Florida, one FCS school, and one Power
four team, the five and sevens Wisconsin Badgers, who finished
twelfth in the Big Ten. So the dude wants to
complain about the schedule, Yet all of the losses came
(01:16:22):
in conference play. So your non conference was one of
the weakest in the country.
Speaker 7 (01:16:29):
Yeah, I love to cut him some slack, but I can't.
Speaker 6 (01:16:32):
No, you can't.
Speaker 7 (01:16:32):
Now Listen. I understand the argument. He said some good things.
We got good young men here, and we'll move on.
You know, what are you going to do? But if
you don't know to quickly take care of your business,
then you leave it in question. And when it's in question,
the committee is fallible and they made I think they
made mistakes on seating, but it happens. I don't know
why we think it's a foregone conclusion. We're just supposed
(01:16:52):
to always have to put Alabama in there. Alabama left
the door open for it to be considered. And when
you leave the door open and people making decisions, you
may not like the result. And that's exactly what they did.
Hell of a team. The stud young quarterback, but they
lost conference games that normally Alabama would not lose, and
(01:17:14):
they have posted three losses. Do we have a three
loss team in the final twelve.
Speaker 6 (01:17:19):
No, don't lose three games there you go.
Speaker 7 (01:17:23):
Don't lose twenty four to three to owe you to
a team who couldn't score on Katie High School right
now offensively. So yeah, it happens. I have nothing against Alabama.
Hell do I think they could go in and get
to the Final four if they had the rights? I
absolutely do. But there's a lot of ifs. Well, if
South Carolina went to play, they're playing, couldn't they get in?
Speaker 6 (01:17:42):
And ben yea?
Speaker 7 (01:17:44):
If BYU get gets a run, couldn't they get in?
Sure they could, So we could say that about a
lot of them. And this year Alabama left the door open.
Normally they slam it shut and put themselves in position.
This year they didn't, and the committee decided on somebody
else and the twelve can't. I can't wind over it.
I think that this is okay. I think they've but
the seeding, I don't know how Clemson loses or wins
(01:18:07):
and is a lower seed than s and U, although
I think SMU is every bit as good as them.
Clemson won this one, and I don't see why Oregon
shouldn't play a clearer path because they've earned it by
being the number one team in the country and undefeated.
So that part's mine. I don't have a big complaint
about the twelve teams that are in it.
Speaker 6 (01:18:26):
Alabama's first three games Western Kentucky, South Florida, Wisconsin, and
then they just threw in a random game on Saturday
and No. Ever sixteenth against Mercer.
Speaker 7 (01:18:38):
Well, Alabama will be going to a good bowl game.
Speaker 6 (01:18:40):
Yeah, they're playing Michigan.
Speaker 7 (01:18:42):
That's exactly right, and that'll be fun, physical teams. Michigan
can find a you know, some plays on the perimeter,
then we may have ourselves a game. But yeah, and
that's a hell of a non playoff bowl game. My
Trojans in the a Aggie's and ve oh that's there,
(01:19:03):
you go. Oh my, my two schools. So I'm good
with that either way. So that'll be fun and I'm
sure we'll see some some fun stuff. Yeah, and Connor
Wigman's down to University of Houston and Syracuse and one
other Houston's come into the fray.
Speaker 6 (01:19:20):
Nice.
Speaker 7 (01:19:21):
Somebody's gonna get a good player and Hopefully a change
of venue will get his game right and he'll get healthy.
Speaker 6 (01:19:25):
Well, he'll have a hell of a coach if he
chooses the University of Houston, Willie Fritz. You know there's
been some shuffle on that coaching staff offensive yep for
for Willie Fritz. Hey, just real quick listeners. During baseball season,
we hear from Miss Carroll. Does anybody have an update
on Miss Carroll her health? Her health? Because she called
(01:19:48):
in a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that she
had some It was it was, it was, it was
at the it was near the end of baseball season.
It was after the baseball season, so it was so
I now, actually, yeah, a couple of months ago, right,
I feel like a couple weeks ago.
Speaker 7 (01:20:00):
And we've been asking off the air, like is she okay?
We haven't heard from, Just trying to get an idea
of if she's okay.
Speaker 6 (01:20:05):
How her health is. Does anybody know Miss Carroll personally
or knows somebody that knows somebody, Please give us a
shout and talk to Tripley, our producer, please, seven one three.
Speaker 7 (01:20:14):
We've heard some we've heard some not some things. Yeah,
I just want to make sure she's okay, and if
she's not, it's heartbreaking. Yeah, it's heartbreaking that we haven't
been able to talk to her again. Yeah wow.
Speaker 6 (01:20:25):
And obviously a regular listener and we miss her.
Speaker 4 (01:20:27):
Yeah, you know that.
Speaker 6 (01:20:28):
She is a massive supporter of Sports Talk seven ninety,
the biggest Astros fan you've probably ever met in your life.
So if anybody knows miss Carroll, please give us a shout.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. Talk
to Emmanuel, he'll he'll take down the notes or numbers
or if anybody knows her, because we're just trying to
check on miss Carroll and her health. We've heard some
things and yeah it's it's just like I said, just
(01:20:50):
trying to check the health of her. Uh so, okay,
to check up on friends. Yeah, we need to do
that more, all of us do. Yeah, there is no
doubt about it. All Right, let's get into the eight
o'clock hour. There's a couple of teams that were right
there on the cusp of getting into the college football playoff.
We're gonna tell you why Army has a bitch, just
like a couple other teams. Seven one three two two five,
seven ninety is the number to ty so all along
(01:21:11):
right here on the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (01:21:14):
ADM Houston, ADHD two Houston, an I Heart radio station,
the Astross, the Rockets, Rockets Basketball, your home for your
home teams. This is Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (01:21:26):
Ninety Salisbury, Old Salsbury, Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
Okay, let's do this, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 5 (01:21:41):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Seawan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:21:51):
Texans getting ready to play the Dolphins coming off their
bye week. College football playoff bracket is set one Soto
headed to the Mets on a massive fifteen years, seven,
seven hundred and sixty five million dollar deal.
Speaker 15 (01:22:09):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:22:09):
The Army Navy game coming up this Saturday, two o'clock
over in Landover, Maryland. Let's talk about Army real quick, Sean.
Speaker 7 (01:22:18):
We got a Heisman banquet coming up to we do.
Speaker 6 (01:22:22):
I saw a lot of local writers here in the city,
Randy mclvoy, Lea Van, all of those Cody Stuts, a
lot of those local sports media people here in the
city voting on the Heisman that's coming up as well.
Army and I have a Heisman vote. This is the
damn shame, man. It's a damn shame. I just figured
(01:22:45):
i'd throw that out there, army. Yeah, well what I know,
I don't you know, they don't want anybody from Soul
Ross State in there, same the Ross and heading down
to the Pine. You're gonna throw your hat in the
head coaching search for Soul State.
Speaker 7 (01:23:00):
No, no, kind they're gonna give me.
Speaker 6 (01:23:05):
I don't know if they got much down there, Well
we can figure it out. Maybe the Riata throwing some money,
really really good steak, really really good steakhouse.
Speaker 7 (01:23:13):
I'm good though, with a I'm good. I'm gonna root
on Soul Ross State from from this. I like, c baby,
let's go to Vegas.
Speaker 6 (01:23:21):
You ready to go? Yeah, let's go watching them take
on the fight in Texas.
Speaker 18 (01:23:26):
AG.
Speaker 7 (01:23:27):
Let's go just gig them fight on and gig them.
Speaker 6 (01:23:33):
So there you go.
Speaker 7 (01:23:35):
Yeah, they're getting their heisman valletin. I like, yeah, sure,
if you were, if you're voting, who would it be me? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:23:40):
Sent Ashton Genty Dent. I mean, take Ashton genty off
the Boise State. They don't make the conference title game,
they don't make anything else. Take Travis Hunter off of Colorado.
They're still they're still pretty good.
Speaker 7 (01:23:51):
Yeah, take scataboo off Arizona State and in this game
either they're not I can tell you that.
Speaker 6 (01:23:57):
Yeah, So.
Speaker 4 (01:23:59):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:24:00):
I want to look at Army real quick. Army took
down two Lane in their conference title game thirty five
to fourteen, zero penalties, zero turnovers, zero incompletions, four for
five on fourth down.
Speaker 7 (01:24:12):
Epic, Oh my god, and happen to deal with stopping
that option during the week. The practice against it is
when you don't see it well as only Georgia Tech
was doing it for a while with coach Johnson there,
Paul Johnson, and he's not there anymore. But it was
military academies, yeah for the most part, right, and they
were them and Navy, I mean they run it to air.
(01:24:34):
Force has had their moments where they've run it to perfection.
All three of you know, there have been pretty stellar
programs at different times. And Army and their quarterback, the
way they played this, they've been phenomenal. It's been a
blast to watch, and I love watching defenses try and
defend them. Well, the ball doesn't hit the ground very often.
Speaker 6 (01:24:53):
Doesn't, No, sure doesn't.
Speaker 7 (01:24:54):
They don't mess up, they don't beat them, So what
a shock discipline brings to the table, right, No, yeah,
you don't get p You got a real good chance
to win when you don't run a conventional offense. You
have no penalties, you convert four or five fourth downs,
the ball doesn't hit the ground when you throw it,
no incompletions, and you don't turn it over. You got
a real good chance to win. It's impressive. Those young
(01:25:15):
men are extremely disciplined and it shows every single week
they line up. I love Army.
Speaker 6 (01:25:21):
They had seventeen total passing yards. Quarterback went two for two.
Then they still won. They rushed for three hundred and
thirty five yards. And here's the deal.
Speaker 7 (01:25:33):
It always sets up for a big player two or
three during the game because you have to stack the
line of scrimmage and you almost dare them to throw,
and then they put an okie doke on you and
the guy's running. Alls you got to do is throw
an underhand to them because they're so open and second
here because if you don't, they just torch you at
the line of scrimmage. And they're great decision makers, you know,
the Scarlet Knights. Yeah, some people like the old school
(01:25:54):
of the Cadets. And there's the Midshipman yep. And now
we got the Scarlet Knights. And I'm gonna tell you
what what a great coach Monkin's done for them for
so long. What an honor it is it must be
to be the coach. It's like a calling to be
the coach at the Naval Academy, at Army for Monkin
at Air Force all those years with Fisher to Bury
and you know that group, And what an honor I'm
(01:26:15):
sure it is. That's why it's got to be tough coach,
Coach Ken, I'm not evenna try to pronounce the last
name was the Navy all those years they the it's
got to be an honor for them to be able
to sit in that coach's office knowing what you're coaching.
You're not just coaching football players or young men. You're
coaching guys who may very well leave your campus and
within a month be fighting a war. Right, So God
(01:26:38):
bless them, man. And they're pretty damn good football players too.
They don't have to make any excuse for being good.
They're really good.
Speaker 6 (01:26:44):
And I can't wait till the Army Navy game Saturday.
Man Army's only loss is to notre Dame. They won
their conference title. They're eleven and one. They're not in
the college football playoffs. Notre Dame's only loss is to
Northern Illinois. They're eleven in one. They obviously didn't playing
a conference title game. They get into the college football playoffs?
Speaker 7 (01:27:03):
Is what the seven or eight seed? Let's see seven?
Speaker 6 (01:27:07):
You have? Come on now? Got to love when the
bracket goes down. Yeah, I believe so.
Speaker 7 (01:27:15):
Gosh, they're no higher than seven and they're No's with
seven or eight there, I know they're no.
Speaker 6 (01:27:19):
There's seven in Indiana's ten. That's seven to ten matchup.
Speaker 7 (01:27:23):
Talk about proximity. Close to Bloomington is the South Bend.
So that'll be a fun game to watch.
Speaker 6 (01:27:28):
Phil Notre Dame getting in because of a brand or I.
Speaker 7 (01:27:32):
Would say, listen, you've known forever an eleven and one
Notre Dame team that's gone on a roll and won,
you know, after an early season loss and kicked ass
the rest of the year.
Speaker 6 (01:27:43):
Yeah, they belong in the playoff. Are they ever going
to get into a conference? I don't have any idea.
Do you think they should?
Speaker 7 (01:27:47):
I would love everybody to be in a car. I agree, agree,
Then I would like that, but you know Notre Dame. Yeah,
they belong in the playoff, there's no doubt. But I
think this is a challenging game for them with with
the Indian sneaky game. Yeah, because Indiana's quarters really good,
and they can run the football, and they're physical, they're
well coached, and and that state's going to be up
in armspan. When's that? When's the when's the uh? When's
(01:28:08):
the opening playoff start? When do we start to playoff?
Speaker 6 (01:28:10):
What's it? Exactly? So you have the twenty first there
you go. Yeah, so in a couple of weeks to prepare.
So actually Indiana, I take the back Indiana. Notre Dame
play on the twentieth at seven pm, So.
Speaker 7 (01:28:22):
A couple weeks to prepare. Today's what? This not the
only game on the twentieth all night, So you get
about eleven or twelve days to prepare.
Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
Good.
Speaker 6 (01:28:29):
Yeah, So they play Friday night. Why why do they
schedule that on Friday night when everybody else on Saturday?
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:28:35):
Give them the stage by themselves. It's a national brand, true,
that's probably why. And it's weird because Notre Dames will
be playing on ABC, not on NBC.
Speaker 6 (01:28:43):
Right.
Speaker 7 (01:28:43):
I think that a couple of times this year. I
think we saw one time during the year in regular
season this year, did.
Speaker 6 (01:28:49):
We It'll be the first time that Notre Dame is
playing at home that NBC is not broadcasting since nineteen ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:28:55):
Okay, so that at home there's the key.
Speaker 6 (01:28:57):
Yes, that's right. That's gonna be nuts. That's another Another
thing that's going to be different is Clemson in Texas
playing on the twenty first on tn T.
Speaker 2 (01:29:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:29:07):
TNT got some post some playoff rights, didn't They bought
some playoff rights? Yeah, or we're giving the option to
bid on them, I guess. So here they are on TNT,
And what a stage that's gonna be for club Nick Like,
oh yeah, I said, playing.
Speaker 6 (01:29:22):
Uh he beat Quinn you weres in the state title
game a couple of years ago, or a couple of
years ago, a handful of years ago. Austin West lagu
versus South Lake, Carol. How's this for a matchup that's
gonna be awesome? Yeah in Austin. Oh yeah, man, I'm
about it. Let's go. You said it, Sean, you said
it like weeks and weeks ago because we talked about
early Heisman favorites. Like early you said, Clay Cume, Caid
(01:29:45):
club Nick could be in the mix. Clemson played okay football.
He wasn't Clay Gosh, dang it, Caid Clublic not really
playing good football?
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:29:56):
And then they played one week and they won. I
forgot which week it was. And then I remember you
specifically talking on Monday morning to us and you said,
watch Clemson and you said watch Arizona State. You said,
watch those two teams. I'm telling you right now, watch
those two teams. Club Nick is gonna have Clemson playing well.
And then you said, the job that dealing is Dillingham, Right,
(01:30:18):
Dillingham is doing at Arizona State. Don't sleep on them.
And look what it is.
Speaker 12 (01:30:22):
Man.
Speaker 7 (01:30:23):
I only know a couple of things about football, just
a couple other than that. Got no clue. Let's stick
to basketball and baseball. Yeah you want to start talking basketball? Uh? Well,
I think we should.
Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
I think.
Speaker 6 (01:30:36):
There was a w a girl dump dunked in the
w n B A over the week, or in was
a college basketballah, college basketball and pin that against the back,
you know, weak stuff out of now. I think it's awesome.
I think I do think it is awesome. To watch
a woman dun't. But ESPN their tweet that they put out,
oh my god, she gets up. She doesn't get up.
She she barely dunks it. Okay, but it's still great,
(01:30:58):
Yea Wilkins.
Speaker 7 (01:31:01):
Yeah, with the caption on on the tweet from ESPN,
she got up, she sword mad hops.
Speaker 6 (01:31:07):
No, bro, No, she didn't. Well compared to the dead.
Just say she dunked. It was it was a she dunk.
Speaker 7 (01:31:15):
It was a it was a spine chiller supreme.
Speaker 6 (01:31:17):
I'd just say she don't throws it down.
Speaker 7 (01:31:20):
It was it was chocolate, thunder flying, robin zeine, crying,
teeth shaken, glass breaking, rum roasting, bun toasting, wam bam,
I am jam. Okay, take that to the to your
party or put it in your pipe whatever you Yeah,
take it to the party and drink it. Put it
in your pipe and smoke it. If you smoke it, maybe, Yeah,
just say she went up there and I hammered it.
(01:31:41):
Just say she dunk with authority to say she dun't.
You need to quit hate.
Speaker 6 (01:31:47):
I think it's racist. No, No, I'm not hating on
the Shick, I'm hating on SPN.
Speaker 4 (01:31:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:31:50):
Well, another thing I thought I heard you say, what
a weak ass dunk? These women have no hops?
Speaker 6 (01:31:56):
When did you hear that? When did you hear that?
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:32:02):
It must have been you, though, It must have been love.
Speaker 6 (01:32:09):
Charles Barkley and Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson gonna be
involved in that tn T coverage for college football.
Speaker 7 (01:32:16):
I don't know, Ernie probably host.
Speaker 6 (01:32:18):
It's gonna be ESPN.
Speaker 7 (01:32:21):
Is that what it is? I don't know. Come on,
I don't know, but I know this. You just said
women can't duck? Did you hear that, trouble A. I
can't believe he said that.
Speaker 6 (01:32:31):
I heard that, Miss Rolls line.
Speaker 7 (01:32:33):
Yeah, it was so weird. You said, Oh, it wasn't
even duck you said it was You said it was
a judge Girvin spin in the in the like a
little finger roll in the in the lane. Oh damn man,
you guys, wasn't Dominique Wilkins grabbing change off the top
of the backboard and you're dogging them out?
Speaker 2 (01:32:50):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:32:51):
Man, So you're gonna have s m U in Penn
State on at the same exact time as the Houston
Texans and Kansas City Chiefs. Guess who's called on that game. Max,
you's surprised he's leaving Boulder to call this game, Mark
Jones your favorite? He's calling what game SMU and Penn
State in that playoff? You know what, you can always
(01:33:12):
mute it if you need to. Mark, is he gonna hopefully?
I don't know how's he gonna, how's he gonna? How's
he gonna call a s m U and Penn State
game without Deon Sanders nuts.
Speaker 10 (01:33:21):
In his mind?
Speaker 7 (01:33:23):
Well, you cannot think that that's the case.
Speaker 6 (01:33:26):
That he likes Colorado. He's called all damn near all
of their games this year.
Speaker 7 (01:33:32):
They're the national champions and.
Speaker 6 (01:33:34):
Mark Jones eyes lookie, coach Prime, Coach Prime, And you
know it's true.
Speaker 7 (01:33:49):
I really I'm still stuck on you. You're thinking the
only way a woman ducked was on the seven foot basket.
I can't believe he said that I did for everybody
to hear.
Speaker 6 (01:33:58):
She would up and hammered at home to say she
dunk authority put on it. That's it's fine to say
she dunked on the catch.
Speaker 7 (01:34:08):
Again, it was chocolate thunderflying keep who dunk dunked it?
For chocolate thunder? That was what he'd say. About his ducks.
He named his ducks. He taught like one was the
spine Chiller Supreme. He named his ducks, and he had
one that was like chocolate thunderflying Robinzine crack because he
broke the glass and dunked, right, He Texas teed, uh
(01:34:33):
uh Bill Robinzeen, So it's chocolate thunderflying was somewhere like
chocolate thunderflying Robin Zeene crying, teeth shaken, glass breaking, rum roasting,
bun toast and wambam, I am jam something along those lines. Damn.
And I'm thinking that this female dunk like that too.
Just and then just so you I'll put respect on
her since you said she just dunk, just just dunk.
(01:34:55):
It's okay. Can you be a little more emphatic? She
brought the house down?
Speaker 6 (01:35:00):
Where is that damn tweet?
Speaker 3 (01:35:02):
I had?
Speaker 7 (01:35:02):
Man hurts he thinks if it's not Dominice Wilkins, nobody
can dug.
Speaker 6 (01:35:08):
Unbelievable Ashland Watkins. Okay, she look with authority, I mean,
kind of rattles around and she finally gets down. That's great, man,
I think it's awesome.
Speaker 7 (01:35:22):
You condescend her dug.
Speaker 3 (01:35:24):
I'm not.
Speaker 6 (01:35:24):
I'm just being real man, she got up? Yeah, Matt Hopps,
let's say she dunked?
Speaker 7 (01:35:32):
Man. Hey, it's splitting hairs, isn't it. It's a to me,
it feels what tripley misogynistic?
Speaker 6 (01:35:39):
Maybe oh, ain't going down? We start that one now.
Anytime you say some of this, even if it's think
it's a guy, you're masag No, no, what happened? What
do you say?
Speaker 7 (01:35:58):
Well, you just said it was a dug. Well you
can't say that it's gotta be a great dug.
Speaker 6 (01:36:04):
No, no way, let's get break. Let's go to break
radio Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
Why isn't the rat race more racy? Gop construtching completely
shutting down the Southwest Streetway? Bert joss Low anyway, enjoy
your time crawling through Houston Road construction with more shown
Suspear on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:36:30):
With your unique insights like your top artists, your first
thumbed up song of the year in a music festival
you need to attend in twenty twenty five. Thank you
for listening to us in twenty twenty four. Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year from iHeartRadio. All right, Seawan.
Speaker 7 (01:36:43):
Over the weekend, we had the college football Championship Saturday.
Speaker 6 (01:36:48):
Of course, Bois State one on Friday night. Over you
and l V. Who impressed you the most out of these?
Out of these conference title games?
Speaker 7 (01:36:58):
I thought Arizona State as impressive as hell, man, And listen,
if everybody plays their best, you're gonna have a hard
time beating that team in the Northwest. Oregon's really good.
Their timing, their throw, their playmaker, their aggressiveness, they play
on defense, they got great team speed. What's not to
freaking like about them? I guess we could say that
(01:37:20):
about but I'm talking about if everybody tease it up
and reaches their maximum preparation point and plays there, Everybody's
vibed in and tuned in, Oregon's gonna be the toughest out.
Speaker 3 (01:37:31):
Man.
Speaker 7 (01:37:31):
They're just still frigging good, and they covered They covered all.
But I was impressed with Arizona State. They manhandled Iowa State.
I loved the Clemson a SMU game, the battle that
went on. Both are going to go into this playoff
kind of people will think, yeah, they may be able
to win one game, but they can't win a lot
of that. So it's gonna be fun to watch their challenge.
(01:37:53):
I don't know how Ohio State's gonna respond. I really
don't have to. How people are talking about Ohio State
like they're just about hacks now, And I think it
comes down to they don't trust the head coach in
a big game, and it's like, here we go again.
Yet they're so frigging talented, so over the week and listen,
I think we expected genty even though UNLV, dude, you
(01:38:13):
UNLV's front seven is so frigging good. They're one of
the better ones in the country. They're really good. And
he rushed for two hundred yards and they but his
thing is he keeps pounding you and pounding your body, blow,
hitching the gut, hitching the gut, two yard game, two
yard game, and then break the big play so he
can play in and out and he blocks. I'm impressed
with them, but I thought Arizona State manhandling Iowa State, Georgia,
(01:38:35):
I mean, Oregon, who is just you know, Penn State's
not exactly easy and they hung forty plus. What was
the final score upper thirty? I can't even I mean,
I watch the whole game. I can't remember what the
scores I get after the weekend forty.
Speaker 6 (01:38:50):
Something.
Speaker 7 (01:38:51):
Yeah, yeah, but then they're and so then going throughty
there you go. So they mean, dude, you pup. You
put forty five up on a Penn State team. Pretty loaded.
I just so I would say Arizona State, and I
came out of this weekend Arizona State, and I came
out of this weekend thinking, man, Oregon has just validated
(01:39:11):
why they're the number one team in the country, as
if we didn't know. But I was also I'm just
telling you, if they protect the football, Georgia will still
be a tough out.
Speaker 6 (01:39:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:39:25):
Man, they their offense is missing explosives. Yes, maybe it's
the feet of Remember when Bennett was stetson Ben. They
could move in and out and go. You know, Beck's
a big, strong, throwing, tough kid and I hate to
see him get injured. But there was a different energy
with their mobility and feet and just and it's like
the players rallied around the backup, which is important on
any team to do. I'm just telling you, when all,
(01:39:47):
if Georgia wins the whole thing, you should not be shocked.
You should not. And Texas is missing some foot on
the throat. They're leaving too many plays on the table.
And I know that the penalties that Sark was pissed
at half considering it were one side and he was angry.
Speaker 6 (01:40:03):
More penalty yards than Georgia had yards in the first half.
Speaker 7 (01:40:07):
And that's going to be you can't regardless that that's
gonna be a problem. And I'm sure some were questionable
that he'll look at and with a fine tooth comb,
but that'll put you in mind. They just got to
make the there's it almost feels like you need the
mobility in the postseason, you know what, Like Dylan Gabriel will.
Speaker 6 (01:40:24):
Feel like mobility. I've gotten to a point after watch
I've watched so many games this year of UT and
watching quinn yours, I feel like they would be better
with arch Manning just because of the mobility and arch
Maning just seems like he's got that it factor. Quinn
is missing something.
Speaker 7 (01:40:39):
I'm going to tell you this, I will not be
surprised with this couple weeks preparation if you don't see
more packages for arch Manning in his game. Now you
know how I feel about Quinn. I love him, But
there they are. I know it's Georgia that their offense
should not sputter like it does. No, too much team
speed and way too much physicality. That they're gonna have
(01:41:03):
to be better to win it all, because right now
I would not pick Texas to win the whole thing.
Speaker 6 (01:41:07):
No, and they've got one of the best defenses and
eats all over them in the second half, and.
Speaker 7 (01:41:11):
That defense is nasty. Yeah, it's the defense. So there
was something that the Georgia game brought out of some
weaknesses that I don't think any of us want to see.
Speaker 6 (01:41:18):
Yet. Can they win it all?
Speaker 7 (01:41:20):
Yeah, there's gifted as anybody in America, and their defense
is nasty. But if Georgia doesn't turn the ball over due,
do not be shocked. I'm just telling you so. For me, though,
the most impressive performers were or Arizona State and Oregon.
Speaker 6 (01:41:33):
Yeah. I look at look at Boise State beating UNLV
Oregon and good for got to give it to Penn
State though they kept up offensively put a thirty seven
on Oregon. Yeah, they still played well even though he
didn't win. And then Clemson SMU was a shootout. I
love that game. Arizona State dominated, their offense looked really good. Obviously,
scatter Bow is legit. And then I look at Georgia
(01:41:54):
and Texas and it was just kind of like both
teams man just ugly. Well I'm gonna tell you ugly,
sloppy and sadly, and I love the aggressiveness that sorry,
they the Longhorns were playing pretty aggressive offensively.
Speaker 7 (01:42:08):
But the crazy thing about it is that we were
like considered. I mean, like some of the quarterback play
right for Georgia, Like I said, I don't like seem
to heard. But Beck just has not elevated his play
this year. I think he's almost at times held him
back a little bit. He's it's the same expansive offense, right,
Him and Quinn are like one and the same this year. Yeah,
a viewers had a better season than Beck did, but
(01:42:29):
neither one of them. May just say, top five pick
in the draft.
Speaker 6 (01:42:32):
Yeah, Quinn yours the other night, twenty seven to forty
six and fifty eight yards throwing. Yeah, one touchdown, two interceptions,
but you know he missed way too many of the
easy throw right O.
Speaker 7 (01:42:43):
Dude, he has got it. He'll throw it in some
tight spaces. Man, He's got that arm where he can
pump a comeback without setting his feet down, I mean
to his left and he'll throw a comeback to the
left sideline the right. He has got that whip of
an arm. But they have got to be more consistent
because now you don't get one game and then one
where you're supposed to beat them by twenty five. This
is every team you play along line got something that can.
Speaker 6 (01:43:05):
Beat you with. Yeah, and Texas only being able to
rush for thirty one years sex.
Speaker 7 (01:43:09):
Well, if they rush for thirty one yards in their
next playoff game, they're done. They won't win.
Speaker 6 (01:43:13):
They're not gonna win.
Speaker 7 (01:43:13):
But this they're so gifted. Their defenses is nasty, though,
But Georgia once again proved listen, there is no argument
now when it comes to physicality between the two. Yeah,
Georgia's won that match two straight times.
Speaker 6 (01:43:25):
Yeah, yeah, there's no doubt. All right, let's turn our
attention to the NFL. Man, oh man, the Chiefs found
a way to win once again. Let's take a look
around the league. Obviously, the Texans want to buy. Let's
look at the AFC, specifically over the weekend that's next
to sports Flock seven ninety.
Speaker 7 (01:43:41):
Hey, this holiday, give them what they really want, give
holiday scratch tickets. From the Texas Lottery. They're the perfect gift,
and you could be giving.
Speaker 6 (01:43:49):
Falla la la la la la la la lots of cash.
Speaker 7 (01:43:52):
Right, So give holiday scratch tickets from the Texas Lottery
and you could make holiday very merry. It's a good
gift to give. There's some coin, there's a chance of
some big cash and a happy feeling. On the Texas Lottery.
It's the perfect gift. Give those holiday scratch tickets from
the Texas Lottery and make their holiday very special. That's
the Texas Lottery.
Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
The Sewn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 6 (01:44:19):
Of the games yesterday. In the NFL, the Texans did
not play. They're on a bither, gonna take on the
Miami Dolphins. I got a Monday night football game tonight
the Bengals and Cowboys. Wow, what a what a barn
burner of a game, Sean. In the AFC South, the
Jaguars Titans. Jags won ten to six. Mac Jones. Look, man,
(01:44:42):
I hate saying this about an NFL player because they're
in the UH they're in the highest level. But Mac
Jones is not very good. They was not a very
good post to the win. Yes, that's true. Good point. Yeah,
you're right, You're right. Tony Pollard twenty one carries hundred
and two yards.
Speaker 7 (01:44:57):
Boy, how's your play? Willie Lovis? How do you play?
Speaker 6 (01:45:00):
Bill Levins? Bill Levins, let's check him out.
Speaker 7 (01:45:02):
I know how I played. But you're go ahead, give
you that roll. Those numbers my way?
Speaker 6 (01:45:07):
You ready for these?
Speaker 7 (01:45:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:45:09):
He was nineteen of thirty two one hundred and sixty
eight yards passing. That's an average of five point three yards.
He was sacked twice, got a rating of seventy three.
Speaker 7 (01:45:20):
Here go, should just someday be okay? But mac Ole's
I know this. He won Mac Jones one yesterday. Yeah,
all that hate and victory all you throw at people,
he's an okay player.
Speaker 6 (01:45:32):
The Jets lost again. I think it's like their fourteenth
year in a row that they haven't made the playoffs. Eliminated,
Dolphins won six.
Speaker 7 (01:45:40):
Dolphins are still in the playoff hunt.
Speaker 6 (01:45:42):
And their offense is getting just getting better and better
since two has come back. So Texas, this will come
a weekend. Yikes to a thirty three of forty seven,
three hundred and thirty one yards passing two touchdowns, was
not sacked one time. Uh. They only rushed for forty
four yards. However, Tyreek killed ten receptions one hundred and
fifteen yards, Jayleen Wattle nine receptions ninety nine yards.
Speaker 7 (01:46:06):
M big playability. I mean they're coming to town. I mean, well,
they're hovering over those playoffs like a hawk led by Tua.
See what I did there? But a hawk hawk by Hey,
we got it. No no, no, no no no, no
hawk too no, no, we got it.
Speaker 3 (01:46:24):
She sucks.
Speaker 7 (01:46:25):
We got to get rid of her, I hope, right,
yeah hawk, Yeah, you gotta spin on that thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's what she says. Well, I was talking about two tongues. Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah,
you know the quarterback. Yeah, you hate a lot, didn't
hate a lot on Mondays. You're kind of a Monday hater,
(01:46:47):
the kind.
Speaker 6 (01:46:47):
Of you ready for me to all right, okay, I'm
not gonna hate on this guy, but let's just speak
some facts. Kirk Cousins over the last four weeks atrocious.
They lost of the Viking. Sam Darnold went off twenty
two twenty eight three in forty seven army five touchdowns
for Sam Darnold as the Vikings one forty two to
twenty one, Vikings eleven and two Kirk Cousins in the
(01:47:09):
last four weeks, no touchdowns, eight interceptions. They are zero
four in the last four weeks.
Speaker 7 (01:47:14):
I hate to say this, and because they're in a
I don't think it's time. Maybe not fair to Pinis
or Cousins, but fair ain't a part of it. If
you're not producing, you got to do it. And I
know they paid him a lot of money, but remember
when they drafted Michael Pennocks in the first round in
the top ten picks. Everybody, well, what is this going
to mean? If something goes?
Speaker 15 (01:47:32):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (01:47:32):
Where I told you and now here we are. And
Cousins has put up great numbers in his career. But
now with this and now trying to you're going to
surrender this NFC South if you're not careful. Yeah, and
they may for energy. You're zero four and you're throwing
eight picks and no touchdowns. You have won a game
in four weeks and you got a first round pick waiting,
and they drafted him for a reason to be the
(01:47:54):
heir apparent, And maybe they didn't think it was going
to be for three years. But I can assure you
in local media this morning in Atlanta, and I haven't
turned it on and listened, but I'll guarant ask to
you in the first fifteen minutes. Kirk Cousins names at
the top of that list. Yeah, I'm sure Georgia Football
and Atlanta Falcons. But then Michael Pennis. There will be
meeting ground swell and a little bit of me and
(01:48:15):
those coaching meetings about maybe it's time to give Pennix
a look. Maybe.
Speaker 6 (01:48:23):
And he's spent terrible over the last four weeks.
Speaker 7 (01:48:27):
It's been, and they haven't if he doesn't play well,
they haven't sniffed win. He's turned the ball over way
too often. So they they they, I mean they were
comfortable in the division and now they're they are. Yeah,
that's a bad division when it comes to I mean
it's not exactly like New Orleans was overly explosive. Yesterday,
(01:48:48):
We Orleans, Tampa and Baker Mayfield playing out of it.
I mean, yeah, it was a tough one for New
Orleans and made a gutty one and then you got
the Raiders, you got the Tampa Babe Baker keeping them floating,
and you know Carolina hung around against Philadelphia.
Speaker 6 (01:49:05):
Yeah, twenty two sixteen years when that.
Speaker 7 (01:49:06):
Rice Young's playing a little bit better. And here we
are at Atlanta that that division is so open it's ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (01:49:12):
Yeah, and then that division right now, you know, we're
talking about all the coaching carousel, right Bill Belichick interviewing
late last week for the potential job at North Carolina
in college. And then you look at teams like the Raiders.
They're two and eleven. Antonio Pierce was the interim last year,
got the head coaching position. I don't even think he's
(01:49:35):
going to survive his first year.
Speaker 7 (01:49:36):
And I hope for his sake he gets another chance
to build it, give him players and do all that.
But I'm not sure that. I mean, that's obviously going
to be visited as well. That's a dysfunctional franchise, as
we well know.
Speaker 6 (01:49:48):
Sure is, man, sure is. And then look at the Steelers,
man winning once again, tough AFC North matchup against the
Browns and they win twenty seven to fourteen.
Speaker 7 (01:50:00):
The Pittsburgh Steelers are really freaking good, man, If you
ever wanted to come along at a time when it's winnable,
I mean, where it's not that Kansas City keeps winning,
but they're not dominating teams. And Chargers fought back, but
the Chiefs did what they always do. Mahomes made a
couple throws off balance and stuff. Again, the guy's just
a sensational playmaker.
Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
He just is.
Speaker 7 (01:50:21):
And when it's on the line, they just all find
a way to get open. And he makes throws and
the steps out of trouble in the pocket, all those things.
It's it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 4 (01:50:30):
Man.
Speaker 7 (01:50:31):
They just continue to do this. But you can't look
me in the face and tell me that the Pittsburgh
Steelers aren't capable of winning the whole thing, because they
sure as hell are.
Speaker 6 (01:50:37):
They are.
Speaker 7 (01:50:38):
There's no doubt.
Speaker 6 (01:50:39):
Starts with Mike Tomlin. We've talked about him year in
and year out.
Speaker 7 (01:50:41):
They just keep doing it. They run it physical, their
defense is nasty, and the quarterback's playing well this year.
And they did this without pickings yesterday. You can see
a difference in the big playability. Get him healthy and
get going and they play right that Teem's dangerous man, dangerous.
Chicago Bears lost once again. They're er and six on
the road this year. Yeah, how when you hire an
(01:51:04):
interim coach? I've said it a million times and my
guy James on Twitter, who listens at Equity again is
that it rarely works when you fire a coach and
the interim coach takes over that guy usually, I mean
Antonio Pierce will work for him. That guy usually doesn't stay.
And it's not like it's oh my gosh, I mean
New Orders has done a pretty decent job of it.
Andy Rizzy is a he's got a special team's mentality
(01:51:27):
coaching these guys. He was on his punters. It was
a very big time. He ain't so maybe, but I
don't see how Old Brick and UH and Chicago's they're
not going to survive his interest coach. They're both going
to go get new coaches as well. So it doesn't
work very often. If you've got players that have checked
out or they're not doing their thing, it sometimes doesn't matter.
(01:51:48):
But if you've got somebody to come in and change
the culture and the thinking, that's one thing. But in
those two cities, in Chicago and Jets, they're going to
need a whole overhaul. And I'm gonna tell you what,
I'm not sure the Giants are far off.
Speaker 6 (01:51:58):
No, I think they're gonna get it overhaul as well.
And then, like like you said, the Kansas City Chiefs
find another way to win. They won nineteen seventeen. Uh,
you know their kicker? What's his name? I want to
make sure.
Speaker 7 (01:52:10):
Well, they got three they've got they're on their third kicker,
butcker's on the ir They got knee kickers Nico Roma, g.
Speaker 6 (01:52:17):
Oh, I'm sorry, that's a kick returner. What's the kicker's name,
Matt Wright.
Speaker 7 (01:52:22):
He's their third one of the year. Because both the
kickers of butker and the kicker behind him would come
in and was doing a good job. He got hurt
as well. Yeah, they're on their third kicker and they're
still winning.
Speaker 6 (01:52:32):
And he joinked one in off the left upright man
to win nineteen seventeen, and it bounced in.
Speaker 7 (01:52:38):
Yes, hit the back left up right.
Speaker 6 (01:52:42):
The luckiest twelve and one team in the history of
the NFL.
Speaker 7 (01:52:46):
And every what do they say, luck is when opportunity
meets preparation. It is they find they But you know what,
they keep winning, and nobody at the end of the
year is gonna say, you know what, Ben, they only
won twenty one to ten. They don't care. They're doing
it and I'm sure they'd love it to be pretty,
but they're finding ways. Put it this way, if the
game's close and they have the ball at the end
(01:53:07):
of a game. Yeah, rest assured that they're more than
likely gonna go win.
Speaker 18 (01:53:10):
Right, Eddie, Hey, you know we we played well. You know,
Kelsey only had five receptions, you know, but we got
it done. You know, shout out to Matthew Wright banging
that one in. You know, I know, I know it
went out to tie to the left upright.
Speaker 7 (01:53:20):
But oh you guys are you guys seem to be
getting better? I mean just just kind of hanging in Patrick,
Why Heeddie bro Eddie? You know, kareem random football pretty well,
but getting no though, he'd also say getting.
Speaker 6 (01:53:36):
Uhet but getting.
Speaker 7 (01:53:38):
What's his name back?
Speaker 6 (01:53:39):
The running Bachecko Isaiah Pacheck, but checko, you know, getting
him back in the line. It was really key. You know,
fourteen carries fifty five yards.
Speaker 7 (01:53:46):
It's so much more physical than with him in there. Yeah,
I know that guy's Acho. Yes, he is like a
mad man, Yes he does. Why Eddie, Okay, would you
pick against him in the playoffs?
Speaker 6 (01:53:57):
Yes, I'm going to pick against him this year.
Speaker 4 (01:53:59):
I would.
Speaker 6 (01:53:59):
I think they're gonna get beat. He got sacked three
times yesterday and the charges at one of the best defenses.
I know I'm gonna pick against them this year in
the playoffs. I really I think they're gonna lose early.
Speaker 7 (01:54:10):
I think you should. What's that record right now? Yeah,
it don't matter in the playoffs, dog, because this team's
not battle tested the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (01:54:17):
No, they're not sure. They're twelve and one.
Speaker 7 (01:54:20):
Let's get.
Speaker 4 (01:54:24):
To break.
Speaker 18 (01:54:25):
EDI why a learn alert Alert alert.
Speaker 16 (01:54:28):
Look we're twelve and one. You know we're winning really
close games. Sorry my voice is because it always is due.
Let's go to break right around seven ninety, let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:54:42):
This is the Sewan Salisbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:54:46):
We're gonna switch back over to some Major League Baseball
Talk Winter meetings starting last night obviously, first full day today.
Uh Dana Brown, the Astros general manager, speaking to serious
exem MLB network radio, talking about Bregman, so hit on that.
Speaker 7 (01:55:06):
All right, listen, why do we have any idea how
expensive it is to live in New York?
Speaker 15 (01:55:12):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:55:12):
Yeah, I have an idea. He's got a family to feed.
Speaker 19 (01:55:15):
Okay, okay, eight hundred million, SODA's got a family to feed. Yeah,
it's expensive to live in New York. Yeah, So I
think we should embrace this every ounce of it. All right,
it's do you know how expensive it is in New York.
I mean that's why there's nothing. But he didn't say this,
(01:55:36):
but you know we've had athletes. Hey, listen, I make
twenty five million. I got to feed my family.
Speaker 6 (01:55:40):
It's true. They need I got a family. Fe Okay,
they need bread, don't we all? We need bread? The
and the green Backs do there? You go, doc, it's
expensive living, it is, man. I know he's got to
get that money, but you know what he's got to do.
Speaker 7 (01:55:57):
He's got to feed a family, right, and then we
all need to think he I mean family, But we
gotta gotta feed somebody. Well okay, yeah, everybody gotta eat.
Speaker 6 (01:56:06):
What what is rosters like?
Speaker 4 (01:56:08):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (01:56:09):
Sots? Yeah, I'm shret poles. You think I'm sure polls.
Speaker 7 (01:56:13):
This won't hurt.
Speaker 6 (01:56:14):
No, it won't, it will not.
Speaker 7 (01:56:17):
I just you know, to me, he's got a family
to feed. I would have if I was a bet so,
I would have just made sure I got him do
a billion, just to make sure you can feed him.
Speaker 6 (01:56:25):
Eight it's gonna his escalators will get him up to
eight hundred million dollars. I'm happy when I win a bet.
He pays me eighty bucks family to feed day. I mean,
I'm happy when a bet that I win pays me
eight bucks family to feed. Yeah, eighteen bucks.
Speaker 4 (01:56:44):
You know what?
Speaker 7 (01:56:44):
You know what a crib on the Upper East cost
in York.
Speaker 6 (01:56:47):
It's expensive, Sean, he could pay for that, He could
buy a You can literally buy whatever he wants. Hey, listen, yes,
family to feed. True.
Speaker 7 (01:56:56):
He hadn't said it, but I'm sure. I mean, we
all think I gotta feed my family.
Speaker 6 (01:57:00):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 7 (01:57:01):
I think eight hundred million gets you a meal or two,
don't you. I think so pretty good retirement plan.
Speaker 6 (01:57:06):
It is expensive in New York, though, Yeah, it'll be fine.
You know what in a pinch, Yeah, he'll do in
a pinch. You think I can get Brandon to sing
with us today?
Speaker 7 (01:57:16):
No, don't even ask why, because it's Monday. Nobody wants
to start singing but me. You're about to about even yeahs.
Speaker 6 (01:57:29):
On an open I was about to go Jack Frost,
nipping at your nose.
Speaker 7 (01:57:35):
I got a challenge. I think everybody should on social media,
you know, spread good and love the celebrities and all
of it. That everybody picked their fate just getting in
front of the camp, whether you're a crappy singer or
a good one. You know these eighties dances and all that.
I think everybody should sing one verse plus the chorus.
Now you can do a duet collab and just you know,
(01:57:57):
forty five seconds and the chorus just one verse. Of course,
put it on Twitter and just send it out there
and just say it's a challenge. You're singing uplifting your
favorite verse of a Christmas cut? So you want that
on social media? I want it everywhere? Okay, So but
chance to practice, do some homework. I'd probably go come
(01:58:18):

singing a solo, you get a clab? No, I'll do
it solo.
Speaker 6 (01:58:33):
Okay, least create wam that's the one of the best
Christmas songs of all time. And then simply having a
wonderful Christmas time and then do they know it's Christmas

Dog?
Speaker 2 (02:08:46):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (02:08:47):
So I have questions?
Speaker 7 (02:08:49):
What?
Speaker 4 (02:08:49):
Okay? One Sodo?
Speaker 3 (02:08:50):
That's insane.
Speaker 22 (02:08:51):
You're gonna pay him fifty one million until he's forty
because he's got a family.
Speaker 2 (02:08:55):
Defet I'm start calling him one he.
Speaker 6 (02:08:57):
Does, he's gotta pay.
Speaker 2 (02:09:01):
But what does that do for Tucker?
Speaker 22 (02:09:04):
And obviously the Mets aren't gonna pay Pete Alonzo?
Speaker 4 (02:09:08):
Now did the.
Speaker 22 (02:09:08):
Astros go a little harder for first base? M That's
just that's where my mind goes. But anyways, uh, I
had to get serious. They're and actually talk about baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:09:19):
I don't.
Speaker 22 (02:09:20):
I can't think of a good segue back into some
funny stuff. So I'll talk to you boys later.
Speaker 6 (02:09:24):
You're always appreciated. Thanks, brother, He's always hilarious. That was funny.
Speaker 7 (02:09:32):
I Uh, are we sure the Mets aren't in on Alonso? Uh?
Speaker 6 (02:09:38):
They should be, are we?
Speaker 2 (02:09:39):
You know?
Speaker 6 (02:09:39):
We're sure they're not, and I know they're gonna be.
They'll be in there.
Speaker 7 (02:09:42):
Ryan makes a point, So if you go do you
go in harder in him? But aren't you gonna end up? Okay?
Power hitting first basement? Like Alonso? Is he making more
than Bregman? Is he gonna make more than Bregman?
Speaker 6 (02:09:59):
I would think?
Speaker 3 (02:10:00):
So?
Speaker 7 (02:10:00):
Okay, so you're going to sacrifice this one guy who's
in your organization with leads Now, Alonzo seems like a
good leader and the guys seem to love him in
New York. But are we sure? I mean, if I'm
the Mets, you added soda, why would I want to
let the big fellow go? If I could get him?
I know it's expensive, but the Dodgers pay. I mean,
they keep paying big salaries and keep bringing people in.
Speaker 6 (02:10:22):
He was offered last year a seven year, one hundred
and fifty eight million dollars deal from the Mets. That's
twenty two point five a year, so maybe he does
get more.
Speaker 7 (02:10:30):
He's going to be in the Bregman range of right,
in the two hundred million range, fair, yeah, one eighty
somewhere in there. So I guess it would help if
one goes that. You get a guy who, in this
ballpark might hit fifty home runs every year, Alonso Can.
I mean this ballpark feels like he'd go Haywire here,
right and playing indoors eighty one of them for the
(02:10:53):
most part, and that's the window. The roofs open and
that's still warm anyhow.
Speaker 6 (02:10:57):
So basically he's primo ejected to make around twenty five
twenty six years, so in the same class, it's going
to be in the same class, maybe a little cheaper
for I'm.
Speaker 7 (02:11:07):
Talking about just money wise. It's a lateral move for
the Astros, right, Yeah, then you got to say, okay,
who benefits our franchise more? And then you're still going
to be in a bidding more with somebody else if
the salaries continued to rise like this. So I don't know, man,
If I'm the Mets and I added soda to it,
I do everything. If you're spending that kind of money,
you might as well stay all in on a lonzo
as well.
Speaker 6 (02:11:25):
Yeah, you might. You might as well, because uh, you're
already above that.
Speaker 4 (02:11:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:11:30):
Work for the Dodgers. Yeah, they're still doing it, yep.
So they're still trying to add guys left and right.
So if you got the money and you're willing to
spend it, go ahead and spend it.
Speaker 2 (02:11:39):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (02:11:40):
So money, I don't care how they spend it. Yeah,
they spend it. Get people here. If you're the Mets,
that that'd be a formidable twosome right there, having Alonzo
and plus and it's about a billion dollars between the
two unlus.
Speaker 6 (02:11:53):
You got Francisco landor store in there.
Speaker 7 (02:11:55):
Yeah, let's leave it an MVP season as well.
Speaker 6 (02:11:57):
And when d is the back of that bullpen, many,
they've got some talented players over there.
Speaker 7 (02:12:01):
He can ramp it up, can't he.
Speaker 4 (02:12:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:12:03):
And here's the best part about Wan Soto going to
the Mets. The Yankees have already started to The Yankee
fans have already started to burn his jersey. I love
when they do that.
Speaker 7 (02:12:12):
The Turtle's mad, they're all calling them a sellout. Well, yeah,
you know, you gotta go get that that bag. How
many bags do you think that is? So does that
kind of money fill up a Brinks truck in cash. Yeah,
I think so, it does right, Yeah, if you did,
like like the car, you know how they they put
(02:12:32):
this this the see through you know, around it and
stuff and bind them up. Is that a full palette
or more than one pallet? One hundred dollars bills? Is
that how many pallets?
Speaker 2 (02:12:43):
Is?
Speaker 7 (02:12:43):
Is?
Speaker 6 (02:12:43):
Eight hundred million? That's a lot. Yeah, it's a lot
of scratch. Man, It's pretty cool, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (02:12:50):
Think of it.
Speaker 7 (02:12:50):
When you start to think about that perspective, you're like, damn.
Speaker 6 (02:12:53):
He's got a family.
Speaker 7 (02:12:54):
Yeah, well you do. You got to feed your family.
Eight hundred million. You got to make sure you can
feed take care of your family. But good on Soto man.
You know a guy, you know how they ask you
to play your best when it mattered. I mean, you
need your best season when it's heading into a free
agency if if you want to get paid, and he
did so, who's next? We said, Oh, and there's no
(02:13:16):
way anybody gets so tawny money. Well here we are.
Now what so you're telling me, within the next three
or four years, we're gonna have a billion dollar player
who's going to be though, well with this guy's age
and Otani's game have already got their money, so trouts
beyond that, you're getting that kind of money. Mookie Betts
(02:13:39):
is not going to get that kind I mean, I
don't know who's next. Is it gonna be one of
these Baltimore Orioles players if they continue to go where
they're in the But that's not billion dollars range.
Speaker 6 (02:13:48):
I mean no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 7 (02:13:51):
Five years ago with Jay SODA's going to leave for
a billion dollars eight hundred million, eight hundred million. Yeah,
I'm not mad. I'm not getting his wallet. I think
it's a great good for him. Somebody's paying it. But
we are now.
Speaker 6 (02:14:03):
I mean, this guy's an eight hundred million dollar player,
incredible man. Good on him. The Mets were not willing
to let him get away. I don't think anybody. I
don't think anybody is gonna be set for a record
setting contract like this in a long time.
Speaker 7 (02:14:15):
Because I've started to think about the names age wise,
and names come into fifteen years. No, because of the injuries, yea,
because of the injuries. Yeah, and now he would have
been a guy you would have considered. But the injuries
if slowed that talk down as far as that kind
of money.
Speaker 6 (02:14:28):
Yeah, it's not gonna be think it's it's not. What's
his name, who's the big third baseman? Oh my gosh,
for the Padres, he'sad gotten his big Mutchhado. Yeah, Machado's
not gonna be Him's not gonna be for Fernando Tatis.
I mean they're gonna get big time. They'll they'll get
you know.
Speaker 7 (02:14:42):
Three hundred million fifty Yeah, right, you're not You're we're
talking eight hundred million.
Speaker 6 (02:14:46):
Yeah, you're not. No, I don't think it's gonna be anybody.
Speaker 7 (02:14:48):
There may be a while before we see somebody in
this category, right Juan and production potential, production match, the potential,
the age, the timing, everything fell into place for him,
and he he played his ass off this past year.
Speaker 6 (02:15:02):
Yeah, you know who, actually who's probably gonna get the
next really big contract but still won't even close to that.
It's gonna be Kansas City Bobby Wood Junior Ye will
be one of them. And then Paul Skeins. Yeah, he'll
be set in a couple of years to make some
big time money if he stays.
Speaker 7 (02:15:15):
Yet, you don't pay pitchers like you pay every day players.
Speaker 6 (02:15:17):
You're not gonna pay him. That's what I'm saying. You're
not gonna pay him that money. But he'll still get
his he'll probably sign if he stays healthy and dominates,
he'll probably sign the biggest pitching contract of all time.
Speaker 7 (02:15:26):
What did Bobby's contract? Didn't he just sign a new
one recently?
Speaker 4 (02:15:28):
Bob?
Speaker 7 (02:15:29):
Yeah, I thought with Junior signed one, I know we
got to go. Let's go to break and we can
look it up. He thought he went to break. But
whenever that.
Speaker 6 (02:15:35):
One's eleven year, two eighty eighth, well, then.
Speaker 7 (02:15:37):
He's he's out of that. I mean eleven year, two
eighty eight. Yeah, he just signed that what a year ago? Right, Yeah,
sounding like a year ago. So he's at it. So
it's not gonna be him. No, he's under contract for
three hundred mil for eleven years, so he'd not going anywhere.
Speaker 6 (02:15:47):
No, he's not.
Speaker 7 (02:15:48):
But if he plays his ass off, he may be
in position to get another good size one. Yeah, because
the physician is a good start with a new contract. Right, Yeah,
let's let's go to break.
Speaker 6 (02:15:55):
Continue to talk about the big time money being thrown
around in Major League Baseball. The Winter Meetings have started today.
In Major League Baseball, Talk about it next.
Speaker 13 (02:16:04):
This is an agree agreed, very continuous. Now Sports Talk

get out to the phone lines. We'll start with Roger. Roger,
what's happening?
Speaker 20 (02:16:37):
Good morning fellas well. You're having a good Monday. Yeah,
I was just thinking about that Soto deal. Just how
important it is to have that bad out of the
American League. More importantly, are you know, whenever we're fighting
against the Yankees, and the Yankees didn't have any kind
of uh, any any kind of mojo until that guy
showed up. It's like he showed up with a Washington
and I just it's just a big deal for me.
(02:16:59):
I think, uh Yankees don't have that stick anymore because
they provided them with a lot of stability throughout that lineup,
and I just don't think the Yankees are going to
be the same.
Speaker 7 (02:17:07):
And thank thank god, for.
Speaker 20 (02:17:08):
That uh more over, man, I would just you know,
you know, when you had you find you you know,
you have the right, you know, person in life to
share it with, you know, when you know me and
my me and my wife. You know, we're we moved,
you know, this weekend, and what a crappy weather for
it to to to have a move. Anyway, he stuck
it out, put all the boxes in the middle, and
(02:17:31):
so we have to wait for our pest control guy
to come there on Wednesday because we got there like
seven roaches in the middle of the floor reading the
Wall Street Journal looking at us like, hey, what's up? Yeah,
just that kind of weekend. But she compromised with me
because you know, she's like, you know, you know, because
I'm you know, I'm a sports guy. Hello, I'm on
radio station like every day talking to you guys. So
(02:17:52):
where She's like, you know, maybe you know, uh, instead
of you you go out to the sports ball so many,
you know times for the month, you know, why don't
we just you know, do something else?
Speaker 6 (02:18:03):
I go, Can I bring the sports bar here? What
do you mean? Can I set up TVs?
Speaker 20 (02:18:07):
Or like in every every other room, you know, I
an kitchen, the living room, you know, of course, the
bedroom in the hallway something. If you want to do that, fine,
like really, because yeah, I did so, thank you.
Speaker 6 (02:18:23):
Oh did you fall off Roger there? Nope, muscle lost him.
Appreciate the call, Roger. I don't know what happened on
our phones. Falluts run preacherably the other own. Okay, not
sure what happened. Appreciate the call, Roger. Let's talk to
Let's talk to our guy, Terrence. Terrence, what's up man?
Speaker 3 (02:18:39):
Where you been?
Speaker 23 (02:18:41):

Speaker 7 (02:18:49):

I said, you must have a hammy. We were giving you,
we were paying, we were giving you paying an ode
an ode to Terrence about these nuts because you're the
m v P. And I figured, I mean, it's Christmas time.
Do you deserve a couple of weeks off of the hammy?
Load management? You know what I'm saying, Dog, I got.
Speaker 6 (02:19:07):
You can load manage. You can load manage these nuts.
Speaker 7 (02:19:14):
I mean you're driving along, listening in and you get astray.
It's kind of week in it. Yeah, week in December. Man,
it's supposed to be a month of love.
Speaker 6 (02:19:22):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 23 (02:19:24):
And Brian of all people, he gets astrays and he's
gonna throw me astray.
Speaker 6 (02:19:28):
I mean, this is ridiculous, man, Brian, what man dogs?
I didn't bust top? Terrence? Where you been?
Speaker 7 (02:19:35):
Man?
Speaker 6 (02:19:36):
Ballwashed me? I can't even this is ridiculous. Well you
want me so you want us to throw a strays,
you want us to ball wash, or you want somewhere
in between. Give me a little bit in between.
Speaker 7 (02:19:46):
And yeah, you straight him up. Look he got all like, well,
hell no, you got it. He's he's put up MVP
numbers this year. Yeah, Terrence has well, I mean we're
in December. Don't you think the guy? I mean, he's
got I mean, you use your days off?
Speaker 6 (02:20:03):
What does that happen for you? Why am I getting?
Speaker 23 (02:20:09):
Yeah, Sean what That's what I'm coming That's what I
was coming for, was Brian of all people.
Speaker 6 (02:20:15):
You know, all I'm saying is I actually just just
want to let you guys know I still have I
still got three vacation days left and I'm not I'm
not taking that.
Speaker 24 (02:20:24):
Do you don't know how many vacations we getting between
you and all the other guys. What do you guys
get forty seven of how many you have? Your damn right,
I got about eight months. I'm just take the time off.
This company owes me and I didn't take. Yeah, to
cover everybody's will cover everybody's woes.
Speaker 23 (02:20:42):

management load management, he carries this stuff with him and
he calls in from Arizona wherever he's at.
Speaker 7 (02:20:52):
Bingal Bengal, Because you know what I went to the
fans to. You know, they paid a lot of money
to show up at the game. I want to you
know what I post here is fellas.
Speaker 6 (02:21:05):
I'm you know what, this is just what I do.
I'm not gonna use those final vacation days. I'm gonna
be here. We're working on Christmas.
Speaker 7 (02:21:12):
I think, Yeah, but you threw up a straight at
Terrotor who's been posted. I mean, I've had triple crown possibility.
Sounds like I just woke up, Terrence Man, I'm working
six a m. Yeah, and you're but now you're now
you're basically calling him lazy by saying he slept in
till nine thirty. Man some people got bullets over. He's
been the m v P all year long. I know
(02:21:34):
here you are talking about load management to him.
Speaker 23 (02:21:36):
The reason I haven't called in, I've been listening. I
listen every single day. You guys are like family and me.
I've said it before, and my wife makes fun of
me because I talked to talk about you guys like friends.
Speaker 6 (02:21:46):
But I've been sean.
Speaker 23 (02:21:47):
I've been planning my work and I'm waiting to work
my plan, and I'm gonna get you guys here soon.
Speaker 7 (02:21:54):
That's why I said you put up m v P numbers.
This kind of terrence is good for hearing from me.
Alli rather thank you, guys, appreciate it. Brus toss and
load management on people? Did you come back with, Hey,
I'm still not using my last three days reverse psychology,
but I have three left.
Speaker 6 (02:22:13):
I got three left, man, and I got some PTO
hours at you use them, what cous I'm not taking
days off, you know, I honestly I don't like taking
the amount of days because of all the health issues
I've had this year. I'm done. I'm good. I enjoy
coming in here.
Speaker 7 (02:22:28):
It takes a while to go through what you go on.
Speaker 6 (02:22:30):
I've been poked prodded. Yeah, has not been fun, but
a hell of a run sugar. Not been fun.
Speaker 7 (02:22:39):
Yeah, tell you what, doctor, keep going to doctor. You're
you're you'll have Patrick Mahomes's voice, right, like, what's it?
Speaker 2 (02:22:48):
What's it?
Speaker 6 (02:22:48):
What's that?
Speaker 7 (02:22:48):
Why there you go?
Speaker 18 (02:22:50):
Why radio lard alert Travis. You know he caught a
couple of passes, and you know we got the job done.
You know, Andy Cottager game, I think you need your
next I think you need three more days off. You
should take them. No, you're gonna gut, You're gonna gut
throw it out. You're gonna cut it out.
Speaker 14 (02:23:06):
Man.
Speaker 7 (02:23:06):
Man, parent's driving down the roads and boom you still
like a stray at it right over there. It's probably
on one of those freeway kerfuffles.
Speaker 6 (02:23:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:23:17):
Then Terrence living like River Oaks or something. You know,
he's probably in a high rent district. I'm gonna guess
that's what I figured.
Speaker 4 (02:23:24):
Wes.
Speaker 6 (02:23:24):
You know you's coming from the side. Yeah, stop it.
What's the difference, what's the difference? Right as you're out there? Sure,
who's count Katie foolsher? Right? Yeah, you live next door
to the mayor. No, you have a putting green in
your backyard.
Speaker 4 (02:23:40):
That I do, that I do?
Speaker 6 (02:23:43):

lot of load management there. All right, let's get the break.

Speaker 3 (02:25:29):
I had to live out there for the Sewn Salisbury
show continued.
Speaker 7 (02:25:34):
Got in the Hall of Fame and it's so awesome.
The numbers say it and one of the nat when
I say nast I'm talking about just I mean at
and affectionately he was. It may have been the strongest
player I know, big goal big uh. There there's a
lot of I mean people in the league now and
with the training that are strong. Dick Allen was a
(02:25:55):
cigarette in the mouth in the dugout, juggling baseballs and
then hit at about four fifty. Yeah, the popeye forearms
and he was tough as it gets. And it's about
time Richie Allen, Dick Allen got in and then in.
People in Philly and Chicago and Oakland and a handful
of teams know about him. But man, what a monster
(02:26:16):
talent he was. And to the Cobrat Dave Parker long overdue, Yeah,
well well over both those guys. That guy you're talking
about an MVP. You'll still one of the most iconic
throws of all time in the All Star Game when
he threw it from right field on a line to
home plate without a bounce, was like he was throwing
it from the pitchers mound. But a phenomenal career for
(02:26:36):
a gold Glove right fielder and a power bat and
a guy who hit for average. And I believe it
was Dave Parker who said, when the leaves turn brown,
I'll be wearing the batting crown. One of the great quotes.
So both Dick Allen and Dave Parker belonged in and
this is great news and I love to see it.
I just wish Dick Allen was around to be able
to see it himself. Yeah, without his family, I mean,
(02:26:57):
without his family having to do it. They're on their own.
We'll overdue for both those guys. So glad to see
that get in seven seven and he's never to join.
Speaker 6 (02:27:05):
What's up, Bill, I.
Speaker 25 (02:27:07):
Didn't hear about Dick gallantil you just told me. It's
first I heard of that. Nineteen seventy two. I was
in Chicago living and watched the White Sox on cable
and that dude swung.
Speaker 2 (02:27:19):
A forty ounce bat.
Speaker 25 (02:27:20):
Yep, forty outs bat And I think, and Brian, you
can do you get on the Google machine later. I
think Dick Allen is one of the few guys in
baseball history to have two inside the park home runs
in the same game.
Speaker 6 (02:27:39):
Damn he looked at up.
Speaker 7 (02:27:40):
Yeah, that's a great stat for a guy. And you
know how watching him every day, how strong he was.
He was a freaking oh my gosh, a beast and
just tremendous power, those big fore arms. I'm so glad
he got in. I just I hate that we sometimes
wait so long and then the guy gets in and
(02:28:02):
day to the Hall of Fame and we don't get
to see him. But I understand that there's a process
that goes with it. But I can tell you that
he was Dick Allen, Dave Parker. If you didn't get
to see him, go watch because they was. They were
monsters on the field.
Speaker 25 (02:28:17):
So quickly about Soto and one of you said it earlier,
early early today that leaving the the Yankees for the
Mets for really that little of money, Uh, there has
to be a backstory there, because that's that's the equivalent
of the guy passing up the gas station has got
it for two thirty nine, to go down two blocks
(02:28:39):
to get it for two thirty seven. You know what
I mean to say, to save fifty five cents on
a tank of gas. There's got to be a because
why would you leave the Yankees and snub them like that?
They didn't sound like a business decision. That sounded like
a personal decision.
Speaker 7 (02:28:56):
That makes sense, no perfect sense say, and it just
goes down. Like I said, there was no home down
the hometown discount. There was there Bill great stuff. Man,
it's a hell of a point. And he's going to
have a lot of people that are, well, they're already
angry with him today. Huh, yeah, they're not. He's got
to do what's best for him. But it's almost as
if he wanted out.
Speaker 6 (02:29:14):
Yes, which is on seven hundred and sixty million for
sixteen years from the Yankees was reportedly the bid. So
that's that's forty seven and a half right, and he's
making fifty one aav with the Mets. That's literally a
difference of three and a half million dollars per year.
Speaker 7 (02:29:36):
And you say, well, when you're an eight hundred million,
why it doesn't feel like it's just a money decision.
Speaker 6 (02:29:40):
But maybe it is, right, Yeah, maybe it is. I
guess maybe maybe, because you know, you say, on eight
hundred million, that's what the contract. If he does not
opt out, it will get him over eight hundred. He's
got an opt out after five years. If he opts out,
then that contract obviously he stays at fifty one. But
if he doesn't out, he'll stay in the remaining contract.
(02:30:02):
I believe goes up to fifty five a year. I
it's a long commitment to a player, man, fifteen years?
Speaker 7 (02:30:15):
Does he stay there?
Speaker 4 (02:30:16):
Do you think?
Speaker 7 (02:30:17):
Do you think he finishes his career there?
Speaker 6 (02:30:18):
I think so you do? Yeah, just because of the
way that they're uh, they structured it to where, hey,
you play five years here, If you stay after those
five years and we bump you up more, it's gonna
give get him over to eight hundred million dollars on
that contract.
Speaker 7 (02:30:35):
Seemed like no sense to leave. But odd say, there's
no way you're spending fifteen more years with one organization
in this day and age. True, regardless of how much.
Speaker 6 (02:30:43):
Money he got paid right few and far between, stay
that long?
Speaker 7 (02:30:46):
Incredible man. The Mets are desperate for a championship.
Speaker 6 (02:30:51):
Yeah, yeah, there's no doubt, and they had.
Speaker 7 (02:30:53):
He's a desperate player. But to pay that much, that
was if somebody had gone to eight hundred, they'd have
gone to eight twenty five. Yes, that's how they did up. Yes,
they weren't gonna get out.
Speaker 6 (02:31:02):
Bit Cohen was not gonna be out. Bit was not
gonna be out. Bitch agreed. All right, let's get to
the final segment here on a Monday edition of The
Sean Salisbury Show. But before we get to that, obviously,
the holidays are right around the corner, or at least
Christmas is right around the corner Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve,
and you need to add the Daisy dip by Daisy
(02:31:24):
Sour Cream. It's brand new. I love these dips and
these new dips from Daisy Sour Cream are a game changer.
So you need to add the French onion and ranch
sour cream dips from Daisy Sour Cream to your game
day spread for football season and also to your holiday spread.
They taste just as good as if they were homemade.
They were made with Daisy sour kaream and real herbs
and spices. The new dips from Daisy Sour Cream are
(02:31:47):
made with ingredients you can find in your kitchen nothing
more so if you haven't gotten a couple of these,
head over to your local grocery store and pick up
the new French onion and ranch dips from Daisy. Give
them a try. Pair them with your favorite wings, your
favorite chips, your favorite vegetables, other foods. Adam to that
holiday party, Adam to the game day spread, and you
(02:32:07):
can enjoy them and your guests will love them. They
are just as good as if they were homemade. So
try the new dips from Daisy Sour Cream. They are
a game changer. It's Daisy Dip by Daisy Sour Cream.
Speaker 7 (02:32:20):
Let the celebration start more.
Speaker 6 (02:32:22):
Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety last two calls
the show. We'll start with Gil, Gil, good morning.
Speaker 3 (02:32:31):
What's going on, guys, what's happening? I have a question,
Sean asked this. I don't know.
Speaker 25 (02:32:37):
Is it all the sports major sports that if you're
playing a turn that jap we can't.
Speaker 6 (02:32:43):
Hear you, Gill because your GPS is so damn loud
in the background. Done, well, it's off now, all right,
go ahead and ask. So you want to know about
taxes on.
Speaker 26 (02:32:53):
Certain You know, they get ap their games at their home,
so of course it's going to be taxing from there,
say New York with a SODO.
Speaker 2 (02:33:00):
But if he travels to other you know states.
Speaker 7 (02:33:04):
Some states taxes, Yeah, some states do taxi for being
in there. I know in football we got tax for
playing in like Philly. You get taxed a certain percentage
of your check when you go play in those cities.
I don't know what the rule is from Major League Baseball,
but it happened to us in a couple of cities
during my time in my NFL career. Okay, so it
(02:33:24):
happened at football, but you don't know about baseball. I
don't know about it. I don't know if they're like,
for instance, they go spend fifteen days so you know
with somebody in their division rival. However, many games are
to play, and if that gets taxed different or over
and above. It wasn't just we were free from taxes.
It wasn't over and above like like state tax or whatever.
We got hit with the tax in that then in
(02:33:45):
that area for whatever reason. So it just depends. So yeah,
I would imagine that some states still implement that. I
would imagine it was for a football, basketball, baseball. Anybody
who works in a you know, has a job and
is getting paid in there and getting eight in their
city or working in their city or whatever. I don't
know the depth of the rule, but I know we
(02:34:06):
got I know we got hit from it a couple
of times in NFL cities.
Speaker 3 (02:34:10):
Okay, so you have a big contract, sometimes you won't
they won't take as much out if you go to
a certain state like Texas or something.
Speaker 7 (02:34:16):
Well, they don't take we else Texas has no state tax,
so and whatever you qualify under in your first we
don't have a state tax in Texas. So yeah, you
keep more of that money, you know. So there's no
there's no Texas. What else? Vegas, Florida, a couple of
maybe Wyoming is one another one, but there's no NFL
team or baseball or football sayers.
Speaker 3 (02:34:35):
But if you do play and you send and then
you go to New York and to get you.
Speaker 7 (02:34:38):
There, right, if the rules are as such, yeah, they
can tax you for playing in there, if there's a
three game series. Yeah, certain percentage of whatever that is
that they can tax. Yeah, it's happened in pro sports.
It's happened to It happened to our team. It happened
to me.
Speaker 14 (02:34:52):
Okay to the question, you'll have a good some good holidays.
Speaker 7 (02:34:56):
Here YouTube appreciates appreciation. Thanks.
Speaker 6 (02:34:59):
Yeah, you've got Alaska, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Washington, Wyoming, South Dakota.
Speaker 9 (02:35:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:35:08):
I don't know that you hasty or the full you
know the tax rules on those state tacks in each
state or whatever, but they will hit you with a
tax when you go play there. It happened to us
in a couple of you know, a handful of games
a year. Last call of the show, Tony, what's up?
Speaker 2 (02:35:25):
Fella's Soto sign for how much?
Speaker 7 (02:35:27):
Seven sixty five, seven sixty five yep, across fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (02:35:33):
Once it gets past a couple of hundred million, it's
that's a lot of money, man.
Speaker 26 (02:35:38):
I think that this was more about Soto wanting to
be the face of the franchise.
Speaker 2 (02:35:43):
He'd have to share the bill. This is New York.
He'd have to share the bill with Judge. So, you know,
good luck to the Mets.
Speaker 12 (02:35:50):
Man.
Speaker 26 (02:35:51):
You're gonna have to You're always gonna have to surround
him with talent. I'd rather have a bunch of pillars,
just pillars and build and you know, and and win.
But what I really want, I want to ask Sean
a question, Sean the Longhorn Gang Saturday. If you were
Sarkesian and you were coaching that football team you couldn't
(02:36:14):
run the ball, Texas couldn't run the ball in Georgia.
Speaker 4 (02:36:19):
What would you have done?
Speaker 2 (02:36:20):
What adjustments would you have made? Coach?
Speaker 7 (02:36:22):
Listen and I'll say this, I got to take emotion
out of it. First of all, you know, I love
the Manning family, always have. I don't know Arch, but
I know the other the you know, I know Cooper
and Peyton and Eli very well and Archie the dad,
the granddad for arch. I love Quin years. I was
able to coach him at a camp and thought and
when he was in the eighth grade, and he was different.
So it's it's but taking the emotion out of it,
(02:36:45):
I think a spark to get on the edge with
your feet inside outside, you got to have a two
dimensional go And while Quinn's got some mouth, he listen,
a guy could dunk a basketball flat footed when he
was in the ninth grade. All those things, but the
ability to move and you know he's been a little
bit banged up. I would have had more stuff for
the edge. I would have had Arch Banning challenge the
I would have had him in there with a little
more rpo to try and spread the defense out a
(02:37:07):
little bit, because yours through the ball. Well, we know
we can make throws, but there's just that that there's
something missing from the explosive this of their offense. And
I would over these next two weeks getting prepared, get
them both prepared, but arch banning would would be relevant
in this offense during the playoff run. I'd have to
do both.
Speaker 2 (02:37:26):
How many snaps did he take?
Speaker 7 (02:37:27):
Not very many, not very many, and he took way
at the end of the game. He went down there
for that first play inside the red zone and they
pulled him out and then Quinn went in, listen, yours
can play. But there there's a different energy with feet
when you have to defend more of the field. And
arch can throw it too, So that's just an advantage.
I have a hunch you're going to see more of
him in the playoff run. That's just my gut feeling.
Speaker 2 (02:37:50):
La you said exactly what I thought you would say.
Speaker 7 (02:37:53):
Ye, thanks, Tony. I appreciate it, man.
Speaker 8 (02:37:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (02:37:55):
And I like them both in the families and stuff.
But if you just took them from a football standpoint,
they're going to have to expand their bandwidth the in
the quarterback run and Archie can throw. I mean arch
can throw it too. I have a question for tomorrow
that I want people think about. What's more apt to
happen the astro and I mean the Texans go three
and oh in this run and we're talking about them
as they really play a big player in the January,
(02:38:17):
or they go oh and three and we're talking to
them as an also round this year. You don't get
two and one. I'm talking about what's more likely to happen.
Three and oh super Bowl? Wow, did this team look
what they're doing now? Or oh and three and finally
scrapping and scrambling their way to get in as they
take on Miami in Baltimore and Kansas City in the
next three.
Speaker 6 (02:38:37):
Weeks, ten days, those three games.
Speaker 7 (02:38:41):
You can answer that tomorrow, yep, have a good day.
Speaker 6 (02:38:43):
We'll hit on that and plenty more on The Sean
Salisbury Show. He is Sean Salisbury. Our producer is Emmanuel
Elmore Tripoli. I'm Brian Leema. Thank you for listening. We're
back tomorrow morning at six am. Don't go Anywhere. Matt
Thomas Show with Ross is next on Sports Talk seven
