Excuse me?

Speaker 5 (00:32):
Rockets beat The Pelicans are back in action tonight against
the t Wolves Toyota Center, seven pm, tip off, six
o'clock launch pat the Cowboys shutting down ceedee Lamb for
the rest of the season. We have omar Vis Skelle,

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Dez? What's up? Brother man?

Speaker 5 (00:54):
How are you good man? Thanks for having me. Yeah,
I appreciate you coming in. Okay, you're waking up. You
got a little coffee.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Hell early only the holidays, say international waters is where
time doesn't exist. Don't know what day it is. It's
just kind of like the between Christmas and New Year's.
No one knows what the hell is going on. Yeah,
and you know what, you know what brought that in
was an amazing Prime football game last night.

Speaker 6 (01:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Who yeah, yeah? Who'd you have last night? Did you
throw a little money downely?

Speaker 6 (01:17):
Not?

Speaker 1 (01:17):
No, No, in that game you believed you bet last
night you did not know, not even on the Rockets. No.
But they did good though. Yes they won. If I'm
not mistaken, they've won twenty one games nine, man, baby Rockets.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
I brought them Rockets man. Jalen Green led the way
thirty points last night. Man, they are playing some really
good basketball. Excuse me, yeah, twenty one and nine. They
are taking on the te Wolves tonight over at Toyota Center.
Jalen Green thirty points. He was twelve of twenty one
from the field. Alper and Choon he had ten points,

(01:58):
thirteen rebounds, six assists. Yeah, you talk about baby Rockets, man,
they were playing some good basketball. Fred van Vliet twenty
five points and six rebounds, four assists coming off the bench.
Cam Whitmore, Hello, Cam Whitmore twenty seven points, walking bucket
last night. Oh my goodness man. Yeah, they played over
in New Orleans and again, like I said, they're back

(02:19):
home tonight. Had a hell of a game last night
on Thursday Night football boys. Wow, it was uh yeah,
it was really good.

Speaker 7 (02:27):
M h.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
It was six to three in the fourth with two
minutes left. The Bears were so bad. They're so bad, man.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah, you want to talk about bad news Bears, that's them.
Nothing has gone right since the Hell Mary. Yeah, exactly
ten straights, Yes, since that thing. Yeah, since that whole moment,
and you know, yeah, yeah, they just they're just not
like they.

Speaker 8 (02:52):
Went up none, but you know that they're fumbled it.
They had but they called it back. So you know,
things just don't ever pan out for them just a season.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
And then on the other side of it, the Seattle
Seahawks Gino Smith lighting it up seventeen to twenty three
hundred and sixty yards passing and looked, I'll tell you what,
you looked better than c. J.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Stroud did. Not a good week for the NFL and
the forcing a game every single day for the week. Uh,
it's a it's a real thing. As we're uh yeah
right on the movie right like you the hill Mary on. Yeah,
the highlight reel the Commanders that was in week eight.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
That was in week eight, The Commanders through the Hail
Mary that bounced off of a couple of hands and
into the hands of a wide receiver for the Commanders
to win that game. Uh, yeah, we know we were
talking about these Rockets.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Obviously.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
We talked a lot yesterday, Daz about the Texans getting
their ass kicked on Netflix on Christmas Day. C J
Stroud didn't play well, the defense got shredded. Derek Henry
and Lamar Jackson did their thing on the ground, and
then you see what the Astros are doing. They traded
Kyle to Sucker. Alex Bregman is still a free agent.

(04:03):
And I saw so much yesterday where the Rockets are
like leading the way in Houston sports right now, and it's, uh,
it hasn't We haven't had that in a while. And
I don't think the Astros are by any means tearing
anything down. I think it's a retool if you will.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Ish.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Yeah, probably trying to focus a little more on their
future because of you know, Trad and Kyle Tucker and
you know you weren't gonna pay him, But how about that, man,
the Rockets are the most having the most success right now.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, twenty one nine. That works in any league. I
think I think me just being a fan thirty thousand
feet away, it seems like every single night with the Rockets,
there's someone else stepping up there. It's it's it's another
guy having twenty plus. Like last night Cam went Moore
right dropped a twenty seven. It just kind of seems
how it cycles through. And man, this seems kind of

(04:58):
dangerous if you can get them get him going in
the right direction and in a playoff series where it's
not one superstar, it just seems a whole team of guys,
and those teams are dangerous. We've seen it time and
time again across all sports that you get one team
collectively going one way. Sometimes that works a lot better
than one superstar. So really interesting to see them down
the stretch and how they handle the expectations of winning now,

(05:21):
handle the expectations of carrying the city right now as well.
That's that's a fair thing to say. I think Easton
is the sports fan jumps around, so there's gonna be
a lot of pressure on them, But I mean you
gotta take that, especially where they were, you know, a
couple of years ago. Yeah, and I really like what
im Udoka is doing for this Rockets team. They're kind

(05:43):
of buying into what he's you know, implementing throughout.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
You know this lineup and what they're doing defensively, Offensively,
Jayleen Green has taken you know, a step forward for
the most part, Alprin Shangoon is still really good. So
they are a young, exciting core group. And then you know,
with what the Texans came in to this season with
the high expectations. I asked you das we talked a
little bit about this yaest year. I want to talk
more about it today. And we've got some audio from

(06:10):
former quarterback Chris Sims. He talked about the issues with
the Houston Texans because a lot of I wouldn't say blame,
but a lot of criticisms.

Speaker 9 (06:19):
C J.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
Stroud's come under a lot of criticism over the last
couple of weeks because he has not looked good.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
He is missing entirely too many easy throws.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Your your offensive line was.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
Pretty bad all the way up until they made a
couple of adjustments in the past game. Now your running
game is non existent. So do you think do you
think the expectations were way too high coming into this
season because of what they did in the offseason. They
added to Neil Hunter, a Zizou Shai here they added
Stefan Diggs, obviously, Tank Dell was coming back healthy, Nico

(06:51):
Collins to see what he was gonna do. Year two
for CJ. Stroud, do you think you know they had
a good draft again, do you think these all these
x spectations because they what did do Vegas have them
at nine wins? Right then they have it nine and
eight had them around that number. Yeah, Yeah, I think
I think it was nine and a half. Actually it
was nine and a half.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I think I think it's kind of a cosmic gumbo
of a lot of things happening. I think the first
place scheduling is a real life thing, right Yeah. I
also think that you just had kind of Murphy's law
of everything kind of building up on what the Texans have,
little injuries here and there, Uh, the offensive line problems

(07:33):
leading into quarterback getting off his you know, platform, things
being just a tick off, Receivers falling, you know, like
flies getting injured, and all of a sudden that room's very,
very very Nico Collins and everyone else, and then you
have defensive just another year of tape. Right this Obviously

(07:54):
the Stroud phenomenon and everything he did is rooky. Year
was great, But you want to see him keep building
off it when that film is in there, and I think, honestly,
you go back to that Vikings game and Brian Flores
put a lot on tape for other teams to use,
and then everything kind of compiling against that, and so
it's it's very much over over at NRG and and
the Texan locker room. It's probably us against the world

(08:17):
mentality right now. And man, they just they're in the playoffs. Yeah, yeah,
you're gonna get a home playoff game, right if you
just show up and show up for that game and
just building moments. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Yes,
there's a clear tier above them. We saw that on
Christmas Day on Netflix. There's there's tiers to it, but
it's it's anything can happen in January. And if you

(08:39):
get them go in the right direction, that defense plays.
That defense is legit. So if you can just get
it together for a month, that's all that's As a
fan right now, that's all you're asking because you know
the tears are and where you fall.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
Yeah, you have those tiers, and that's the in the AFC,
that's the Ravens, the Buffalo Bills in the Kansasity, Kansas
City Chiefs, and then you know, I was I was
watching more national stuff yesterday and the fact that the
Kansas City Chiefs looks like they're kind of hitting their
stride offensively.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
It's like, dude again every day, come on, man, every time. Gosh,
dang it. Man.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
So we'll see how they fare in their last game,
and then obviously going into the playoffs. But with all
of the negativity surrounding the Texans, they still won their division.
Even though it's bad, there's still doesn't matter. Brian ANFC
South champs, and they're still going to the playoffs and
they're going to host a playoff game. With all the negativity,
we got to remember that they're still gonna go to

(09:29):
the playoffs. I'm gonna try to be a little bit
more optimistic. Yesterday I was so frustrated with this Texans
team and Bobby Sloan's play calling, the lack of execution,
you know, and I think it all. I'm not gonna
say it starts at the top, because I think Demico
Ryans was the correct higher and I think he's still
gonna do really good things here. But some Accountabilly's got

(09:49):
to fall on him. He's the head coach. He's got
to wear it as well. I think people are absolutely
I'm just gonna say, I think people are stupid if
you think that Demico Ryan should be fired. Did you
see how many people were that on Twitter? Like, I
know it's just Twitter, but my god, can we have
some fuel here? There was a lot in the echo
chamber on the internet.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Crazy. That's it's wild. I mean, it's just like the rockets.
You go back a few years, you're in a dark place.
Oh yeah, and to where you are today. Your your
problems are champagne problems compared to what it was two
years ago. So I'm very much in the in the

(10:26):
mold of give him time. He's he's learning on the
job as well. I mean this is his first stint
as a head coach. I see that on the Internet.
I'm like, wow, you just you just want to be heard.
This is the same people that put a one star
review out of five star restaurant just so they can
be heard and feel good. That's all those That's all
it is. This is a crying baby in a room. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (10:46):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
This is the most eye popping stat for me this
season for the Texans. They are one in five against
teams with a five hundred or better record this season.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
One in five not good, man.

Speaker 5 (10:58):
I mean we talked about those tears, right, Well, if
you look down there, the I think they look down
their schedule. The best team they beat this year was
the Buffalo Bills, and in that game, they held Josh
Allen to like ninety three yards. I think if I'm
not mistaken, in that game, I mean, I know that
was back in Week five. They won twenty three twenty

(11:20):
Stroud through for over three hundred yards. Yeah, Josh Allen
was nine to thirty.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
That's where I got the ninety three from nine out
of thirty four, one hundred and thirty one yards and
they won that game, telling me the defense is legit. Yeah,
And I think I think the fans are just frustrated
because not even a year ago, if you gave CJ.
Stroud the ball with thirty seconds a minute, hell or

(11:44):
high water, he was going to find a way to
get you an opportunity to score and win a ball game.
And you're not seeing it this year. No, And I
think that's what's really the frustrating thing. And I think
it's just accumulation of the line being bad, the play calling,
everything being a tickoff new receivers. It feels like Stroud
I think he's he looks a little banged up a

(12:05):
bit and just just kind of wearing tear for all
these injuries are just piling up on them. You just
gotta just stay focused for the next you know, month
and a half and just get everyone go in the
same direction. Because it's very easy to say Cabo in three. Yeah,
it's very easy for that.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
There's another a good thing that's for this defense as
he's au Shaier is going to return from suspension, so
you get him back on that defense. And yeah, at
the end of the day, they're gonna go to the playoffs.
They're gonna host a playoff game, so can't lose sight
of that.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Going to Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
And what a week from Sunday because of the long
break due to the game on Christmas Day. All right,
let's get to break. We'll continue to talk about the
eas Houston Texans. We'll hear some audio from former NFL
quarterback Chris Sims. He talked about the issues that the
Texans have. We also will talk some astros baseball.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Is it a retool?

Speaker 5 (12:55):
Is there still a small chance they bring back Alex Bregman.
Omarvs Gel, former major leaguer is going to join us
at eight o'clock. We'll dig into that and also talk
about these Rockets as they are twenty one to nine
on the young NBA season. Let's talk about the Texans
and the issues at CJ.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Stroud has face this year. That's next on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 11 (13:15):
Wear a mask, wear gloves, wear leather and chains. Reminds
me of that time I accidentally walked into an S
and M convention.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Hey nice, my back still hurts. Would be good speaking
of back pain. Back to former QB Sean Salsbury. Sports
Talk seven ninety get Midieval Ontam.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Shun eleven time Gold Glover Omarvis Scale. He will join
us at eight am. We will talk some Astros baseball
with him. We'll talk some Venezuelan baseball, also talk about
the Hall of Fame. So you're not gonna want to
miss that interview coming up at eight am. Talking about
these Houston Texans. Former NFL quarterback current NFL analyst Chris

(13:58):
Simms talked about the Texans' issues they got They got
their ass kicked on Christmas against the Ravens, and they've
had some issues all season long. This is what the
former NFL quarterback had to say the.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
Pass protection issues with the football team. The league has
caught up the Bobby Slowick and what he does on
the offensive side of the ball. Physically, they can't block
up front. Schematically, it's messed up and doesn't work the
right way.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
They have not put c J.

Speaker 7 (14:26):
Stroud in a position, in my opinion, to really succeed.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
They put him in a position this.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
Year a little too much of like, hey, carry us
because nobody's open and the protection's not that good, So
make a nice move and put the ball right on
the money.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
That's uh, Chris Simms talking about it, and a little
further more, triple let's go ahead and run that other other
audio about Chris Sims talking about c J.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Stroud only can do so much for this offense. A
lot of people want to blame c J. Stroud, and
I just I don't agree with those sentiments. I don't.

Speaker 7 (14:56):
Hey, the defense is good, we know that, but man,
they still like we saw yeah yesterday, We've seen good
offenses move the ball on them and have no problem.
When we saw that on Saturday with the Chiefs too,
and the offensively.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
CJ.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
Strode definitely missed some throws that we're not accustomed to
seeing him miss, There's no question about that. But also
it's it's him having to kind of do it all
all the time. Their run game is really like they
run against the horrible defenses in football. They never really
run against the good defenses of football. Who is there?
Nico Collins is still not one hundred percent in my

(15:29):
opinion when I watch him, and then after that, nobody
really cares about anybody of the receivers as far as
being a threat that they're like, oh wow, we got
a game plan him, we got a double team him
and do all that.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
And that's Chris Simms talk a little more about CJ.
Stroud only can do so much. I think Dez just
kind of bounce it off of what he said. One
of the things that I've noticed for this Texans team
third down and long situations. Dude, they put this offense
in third down and longs, third down and eight, third
down and nine. I think on average it's like third

(16:02):
down to nine this season. At times there's third down
and twelve thirteen, and that's because of play calling, lack
of execution and then also penalties.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Yeah, and how many times have we seen fourth and one,
fourth and two because the plays were a scramble by CJ.
Can't get the full eight nine yards you know en
route that you know doesn't get to the sticks. Whatever
it may be, it just seems that it's kind of
compiling it. And it goes back to knowing that on
Christmas Day, the momentum of just how efficient the Ravens were.

(16:34):
I just go back to the punt. Yeah, Lamar Jackson
was going to score. It didn't matter if it was
thirty seconds or two minutes, a two minute offense, he
was going to score. So I would much rather go
out and have my offense try to go get that
first down than punt. Because you punted it was a touchback,
they go, you know, seventy five yards touchdown, house call,

(16:58):
game over. Yeah. So it just it just seems it's
kind of kind of get right, get healthy, you're ready
locked in the playoffs. It goes back to what we're
saying in the first seven. Just get everyone healthy and
get going. And hey, if we have one, one opportunity,
one game plan to win this playoff game, go all
in and do that. Yeah, is it total in the
rock thirty times with Joe Mixon, So be it line up,

(17:20):
win in the trenches and run the run the ball.
So I just think that you just got to get right. Yeah,
two games left, one game, one game left yet and
and get right, get everyone going and circle with the wagons.
Speaking of Lamar Jackson against the Texans in his career,
he is five and zero against Houston. He's won forty

(17:41):
one to seven, thirty three to sixteen, twenty five to nine,
thirty four to ten, and thirty one to two. That's
an average score of thirty three point four to eight
point eight. He makes football look really.

Speaker 5 (17:56):
Did you like the play that he made against Daniel Hunter,
Like Daneil. Hunters is all Pro, all Pro, one of
the best defensive ends edge rushers in the game right now,
and he toyed with him on the field where he
rolled out to his right, scrambled a little bit, scrambled
back to his left, back to his right, back to
his left again, and then just casually threw the football into.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
The end zone for a touchdown. You know, those videos
are like the Orcas messing with the seals. Yeah, that's
what it looked like, yeah, and the seal happened to
be in All Pro. Yeah, it's just ridiculous. It's just
a normal seal. Yeah, like top of the line. Yeah.
And he makes football look really really easy. There's so
many times where I think he could have scrambled for
fifteen twenty yards and he's like, you know what, I'm

(18:38):
sending a B quarterback and rip it. And then there's
times where he hits the edge and it was a
house call and it was just like, wow, how do
you how do you scheme that? You can't put a
spy on it because you don't have a guy that
can match his speed. He can throw and hit every
throw now in every single layer, So you have to,
you know, respect that as well. So they're they're they're

(18:58):
a tough matchup. Yeah. And the crazy thing about Lamar Jackson,
he's two and four in the playoffs. He's right there
in the same category, uh, in playoffs as Josh Allen
as himself, Lamar Jackson, and a couple of Dak Prescott,
a couple of these other quarterbacks that have really really
really good rate. He's Aaron Judge in the playoffs, really

(19:20):
good m VP regular seasons and then they get in
the playoffs and they can't win this year.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
I feel like it's a little bit different. Adding in
Derreck Henry for those Ravens was a massive excuse me,
a massive get.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
There's there's other The other gms in the league have
to be unnoticed because Derek Henry could have gone to
any team. Yeah, he wanted to go to Dallas. He
wanted to go to the Cowboys in Dallas trains in Dallas.
Was publicly saying, I will be one to be a
Dallas Cowboy. Hey, you know what, they're this kid named

(19:53):
Zeke Elliott from the Ohio State. We're gonna bring back
Zekey Elliott. You know, Derek, I know you in Dallas,
but we want Zeke. That's just crazy. You could add
Derrick Henry. He he's a machine. I mean yeah, Derrick
Henry is an avenger. It just what he what he

(20:14):
does with the football. And I mean, Jesus a match.

Speaker 5 (20:20):
Yeah, it's it's uh, it's funny to think back to
this past offseason where Derrick Henry basically made it known
he wanted to go to Dallas, and Jerry Jones just said, uh,
now we're okay.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
We're gonna you know, we're gonna bring in Zeke. He
does good things. They're gonna run back Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Oh, I haven't considered that.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
I'm not considerate that they're gonna bring back Mike McCarthy.
As long as Jerry World's packing out, Jerry World doesn't matter.
He's coaching. Who's playing? When did they play? They played
what last Sunday night? Right?

Speaker 12 (20:53):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Yes, they had the Sunday night Sunday Night game.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
There was like eighty five thousand people there for this
bomb Dallas Cowboys team. If that doesn't show you the
type of marketing that Jerry Jones does as the owner,
then I don't know what will.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
They are atrocious. They're not a they're not a football organization.
They're a showcase media. Yeah. That just happens to have
a football team as an asset. Yeah, that's all it is.
That's it.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
Like I think one you know, Uh, we did a
podcast early on, early on, it was like early twenty
twenty one. We did a podcast in your guest room
back then when we were doing our our podcast back
in there, and one of the things that we discussed
was this Texans team was it was it was in Shambles,
Jack Easter Bee, Cal McNair. Everything that was going wrong

(21:44):
for the Texans was going wrong. And one of the
big things that we discussed was it won't matter because
season tickets are still going to be there, Fans are
still going to show up, and people are gonna buy jerseys,
buy beer. But yet you did see attendance go down
for a couple of years for the Texans. You won't
ever see that for the Cowboys. No ever, ever is proof.
Right on last Sunday night, eighty five thousand people or

(22:06):
whatever it was for a Cowboys team that is seven
and eight.

Speaker 8 (22:10):
I don't know a few people they went really like yeah,
actual like friends, Yeah, Like it's a real thing.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
I mean, if there's an opportunity to go to a
game that you haven't been and you're a Cowboy fan,
you're like, yeah, I mean this take your prices are reasonable,
I have time off, We'll go up to South Oklahoma
and watch a game. Yeah, they're gonna do it. And
don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful stadium, it's a
beautiful experience. It's everything but the problems in the field.
Unless it's like a three thirty kickoff and you got

(22:38):
that sun coming though, man, don't, don't. Jerry Jones hates
to see a curtain coming. Hey, but you got a
seven year old Mike Tyson fighting the turns up.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
Oh exactly. Get one hundred and ten thousand to see him,
you know, fight?

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Who do you fight? Jake Paul?

Speaker 5 (22:54):
Yeah, Jake Paul Yeah. Get that money, Jerry Jones. All right,
let's get to break. We'll continue to talk about these
Houston Texans. I got a statistic here dez CJ. Stroud
being under pressure. Where does he rank in the NFL?
It's not good.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Let's talk about a next to sports TLOK seven ninety.

Speaker 13 (23:10):

back on your feet or to keep your family safe
and secure. It's Country with a K, Boys with a Z,
Country Boys Roofing LLLC dot com. That's Country Boys Roofing
l LCED dot com. There is no better. The Shawn
Salisbury Show continued. Can you guys believe that Christmas is

(24:14):
already gone? Like yeah, it came and go, It come,
come and goes every year, Like just it's so fast.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Yeah, it's we're getting old. Man. I'm like literally thinking
back of like a year ago around this time, I'm like,
how was that already? I know, what are we doing?
I know, I don't I don't enjoy it. And then
it helped. We didn't help that we had like that
warm front come in. It was like eight degrees and
give me some give me some cold, cool breeze.

Speaker 12 (24:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
I had a couple of college teammates.

Speaker 5 (24:44):
They were one of them was in New York City
for for the holidays, him and his wife first time
getting away from UH Texas for Christmas, and it was like,
I don't know, twenty degrees up there. Of course you're
in big ass city. And then I had another buddy
that's spend in Colorado and it was like a damn
avalanche up there, so it's like, you know, and then

(25:06):
we're down here and it's like eighty three degrees.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
And the little hurricane, you know, he was brutal. Dude,
this was Eve night warm awful.

Speaker 5 (25:14):
So I just I'm hearing that Christmas song come through
just now by Tripley, and I'm just like, dude, it's
how is it already? The twenty seventh came and went, yeah, man,
next week is New Year's, New Year's even New Year's Days, Sir,
New Year's Eve might be the most overrated holiday at
all time. Not as bad as Cam Newton's What a take?

(25:36):
Do you see what Cam Newton said?

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Tripley? I did not that.

Speaker 5 (25:40):
Okay, Well, well we're gonna talk about it in the
seven o'clock hour, probably for the stakeout. It's probably, it's
not probably. It's the worst take I might have ever heard.
It's the worst take of four for sure. Yeah yeah,
really tough scene for Cam Newton. He talked about, uh,
the w NBA in baseball, Major League Baseball. He compared
the two. So that should give you a little, uh
preview about what he said. But no, I think New

(26:01):
Year's Eve was overrated. Man, well you do much?

Speaker 1 (26:05):
Do you do? You do much on New Year's Eves?
Now that we're getting older, Well yeah, well now my sports,
my my sports teams are starting to catch up with me.
I'm not celebrating at you know, the Alma Bowl anymore. Uh,
it's now my team's in the New Year six playoffs.
And well so now, my my I've noticed my happiness
is tied directly to my sports teams. And now my

(26:26):
sports teams, my problem are doing good. It could be
a huge problem. We'll we'll talk to the therapist this week.
We will impact that one. But uh, yeah, New Year's
Eve is like good now because you know Texas is
playing in the quarterfinal. I don't I don't like I
don't like big time games on New Year's Eve? Was

(26:46):
it last year a year prior.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
Whe when was the there was the college football playoffs
on New Year's Eve a couple of years ago, and
you're at the bar with buddies, like or if you
do go out your your shoulder and shoulder because it's
New Year's Eve. I'm assuming the bar that you're going
to probably doesn't have the sound on. I'm a big
I gotta have the sound on. Yeah, you know, so
I think New Year's Eve football game suck.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
I mean kind of a hot take, kind of hot
take that you said this is the most overrated.

Speaker 8 (27:15):
No, I don't think so, man take No, most overrated Valentine's.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
Okay, but that's that's not even a holiday.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
That's just stupid. Yeah, I mean it's technically a holiday.
I understand, right, But I mean, okay, let's say, uh,
big firework guy. No, No, I mean I have like
there was like New Year's Eve twenty twenty one, Me
and my roommate.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
You met Sam.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
Me and my roommate Sam and and a couple others.
We hung out at my house and bought a bunch
of fireworks. It was like ten degrees at night. It
was like brutally cold, and we popped some fireworks, but
it was so cold that we just went right back
inside bartillery shells and get out, get out of there.
But uh so cold. Yeah, No, I'm not a big firework.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
No I'm not.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
So if let's say your teams are playing I don't
know in Atlanta, you want to go spend New Year's
even Atlanta. Look, maybe you want to look.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
My team plays the New Year's Day at noon. We
gotta be locked in, gotta be locked in, watch a
lot of film over next week. We were supposed to
get unch. People don't know this. We're supposed to get lunch.
And then I dropped the ball in that because I
was I was just watching film on Clemson. Because you
never know when start can call your number up in
the stands. One hundred thousand people. You could be the
lucky fan of you were at that game?

Speaker 7 (28:35):
Sick?

Speaker 1 (28:36):
How was it pre sick? This is the cool thing
about the playoff, And I think there's things that need
to be fixed, right, seating strength, the schedule, championship games matter,
all that stuff, right, throw that out to have a
playoff game at a college stadium and not a corporate
NFL stadium, stick and all that machine to have a

(28:56):
playoff game on campus was crazy. I bet it was.
Being a season ticket holder of this pastory was awesome.
The Georgia game was insane results aside the atmosphere, all that,
it was different, different for the playoff game and to
have have it on campus during Chris's break. The student
section was packed out. The students stay, they didn't go

(29:17):
back home, whole staying packed out. Clemson fans traveled great. Uh.
All in all, it was, it was sick and I
think the games across weren't good. Yeah, right, we could
say that, but to see this stame was packed out
was It's a really cool aspect of the cultural play
where the uh and again I don't know this, but
where the tickets affordable? Uh yeah, I mean they had

(29:39):
a little little bit on a little bit of increase,
a little bit of increase on the little haircut, but
pretty affordable across the board because the same is packed.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
You know, because I look at the playoffs in Major
League Baseball. As soon as the playoffs hit, those ticket
prices go through the damn roof, unless it's like a
really bad matchup in the World Series, where you know,
Rangers Diamondbacks, you know, a couple of years ago, and
you know twenty twenty three, you know, like tickets were
like a hundred bucks to get in.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
That was a world series. That was a world series.
Hundred percent that did happen. Remember what a bad World Series?

Speaker 5 (30:06):
I was, what a bat If the Astros could learn
how to win at home in Game six or seven
in that year, they they go and sweep that Divingbacks team.
What a fluke fluke one hit wonder of a World series?

Speaker 1 (30:20):
You know, they say they I'm not saying that, the
shoots are saying it that South Ooklahoma just rented a ring.
Oh yeah, yeah, there's no doubt. I don't even remember it.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
No, So I was curious to see if tickets and
I know we were walking into the radio station this
morning and tickets are how much to get into that
game for Texas and uh Arizona State.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Yeah, the peach ball pricing on tick pick was around
fifty five to get in yesterday. That's a scene that's
at the Mercedes. Is that where's it? Mercedes been right
in Atlanta, which is a great stay in beautiful stadium,
the best stadium. Uh it was. You're gonna get you're
gonna go do New Year's either. Maybe, I don't know.
I'm staring at it. I'm looking at it.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
James Harden's like, James Harden likes Atlanta, you know, I'm
sure he does.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
That's such a creepy that's such a creepy life trip.
Have you ever been to Atlanta? I have? Yeah? Yeah,
how is it outside? There?

Speaker 8 (31:13):
Haven't been as an adult, Oh you have it. It
was like kind of teenager. Yeah, so I didn't do
the outside things. But yeah, from it's a great It's
a nice little city.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
I'm I'm I'm a fan of Atlanta. I like Atlanta,
especially up near Truest Park Top County. The battery battery phenomenal. Man.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
You know, I go there pretty much every summer for
Select Baseball and we always stay right around the Truest
Park battery area. God, I've said this a billion times.
Whatever it takes to get something like that here in
Houston from NMA Park, they've got to do it well.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
You gotta think, uh, to help the fan experience that
the product on the field is not up to standard,
you gotta make that fan experience great by giving them
a battery asque. What do you what are you gonna
call it? You can't call it the battery. You can't
call the battery. So they have ballpark villages in Saint Louis.
I want to say, they have what are they called

(32:03):
up in Dallas, Texas Live? Texas Live? Is that what
that is? Or that's just one bar?

Speaker 7 (32:08):
Well?

Speaker 1 (32:08):
I think it's their version. They call it Texas Live. Yeah, man,
what would you call it? You gotta think. You gotta
think something's gonna be space in Houston, it's gonna be
something like that. Are they ever gonna start construction? We
just call it like the expansion six. Well, aren't they
supposed to like start putting forty five minutes round? Like yeah,
it's gonna be a whole What a nightmare? Dude? That

(32:29):
is so brutal. Who the hell approved that? Dude? This
city floods when you get half an inch rain. Let's
put concrete on concrete. I mean, what are we doing?

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Like you had to tear down those apartments in in
Uh they were called the Loss of the ballpark. Had
a buddy that used to live there and they were fantastic.
You'll be a tore those down. You kick those residents out,
edo businesses are gonna be uh are gonna suffer from it,
like and it's gonna take ninety seven years to complete that.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
I I feel for the fans. I feel for the
fans that were after the Astros run of twenty seventeen,
twenty eighteen. Right then they jump on the bankwagon because
people forget how great like Homeplate, Oh yeah, we're all
right there that you just walk in and out. Those
were the days.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
What was the one on the corner, not homeplate? Homeplay
was on this corner, was on the other side, on
the other side.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
That the place, yea do so.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
We did a lot of live broadcasts from home Plate
Homeplate Barn girl, that staff was unbelievable. But that one
on the a couple couple down closer to the to
the light rail whatever what was it called? Right man, dude,
that place was legit. Give me a good dive, give
a good dive. Oh yeah, we miss those man, My goodness.
All right, let's uh, let's get let's get back to

(33:42):
these Houston Texans. And I'm gonna get to that statistic
when it comes to the pressure rate that c. J.
Stroud is facing as the quarterback for the Texans.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
That's next.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
Sean Salisbury Show continues continue.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
Texans got beat up on Christmas Day at the hands
of the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
They fell thirty one to two.

Speaker 14 (34:04):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (34:04):
C J.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
Stroud, you are ready for this one? This, I mean,
this is kind of the epitome of the season.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Really.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
C J.

Speaker 5 (34:13):
Stroud in twenty twenty four has faced quick pressure, meaning
under two and a half seconds on eighteen point five
percent of dropbacks all season long. That is the fourth
highest in the NFL. So basically on we'll just round
up nineteen percent of the snaps or nineteen percent of

(34:35):
his dropbacks, he has somebody in his face in under
two and a half seconds. That's not good, not great.
Pop that is not great. That is terrible. And it's
the fourth highest in the NFL. Yeah, you're seeing it all.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
Platform throws everything off, timing, off balls, hitting turf, frustrated
players on the field, frustrated fans. But it only takes
one month, one month to get hot. So that's what
you're gonna get.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Tell you that.

Speaker 5 (35:11):
The The damnedest thing is is you look at this
offensive line from last year and it was it was
ring around the rosie, like who.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
Who's it's a hog hot.

Speaker 7 (35:21):
What is it?

Speaker 15 (35:22):
The uh?

Speaker 1 (35:23):
What is it when you uh pot luck?

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Just everyone bring in a random dish to a Christmas
party every morning? It's hey, who's gonna play left guard
for the Texas today? The only position you really had
uh solidified last year was Laramie Tunzel left tackle. It
was it was who's playing right guard? Shack Well, they
had Shack Mason. It was right guard Shack Mason. And
then you ha, Larmi Tunzel left tackle, Titus Howard got hurt,

(35:49):
Kenny Green got hurt.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
So it was mix and match and they were better.
This year.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
You came in and you had you got big money
on this line, Laramie Tunzel, Titus Howard.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
They're making big money.

Speaker 5 (36:02):
And Jared Patterson last year played really good at the
center position, but for whatever reason, they didn't start him there.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
This year.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
They wanted to go with Juice Scrugs and it wasn't
working pass protection wise. So what did they do. They
moved Jeuwe Scrugs back over to left guard. They moved
Jared Patterson to center, and the pass protection got a
little bit better. Crazy, but yet all season long they
haven't been good.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
I also think when you we talked about it, right,
the Tier one and Tier two, Tier two teams. I
shouldn't know my offensive lineman. I shouldn't know their names.
I shouldn't know about their social I shouldn't know about that. Yeah, right, Yeah,
And it just seems that with everything that's happening this year,
and and you're getting beat on stunts and twists that

(36:45):
happens in the NFL, you're also getting beat on a
corner of nickel blitz coming off the edge. You're getting
you're getting beat straight up on a four man, five
man rush, where if you're if you can't handle four
man or five man rush, I don't know what you're
gonna do playing in the National Football League because now
you have a bunch of athletes dropping into space and
coverage and it's tough to make throws right. And so

(37:07):
when you're constantly, constantly, constantly losing in the trenches, the
conversations in December, what are you gonna do next year
to get this fixed and get this right? And you're
gonna have some hard conversations to have.

Speaker 5 (37:19):
Yeah, when a basic stunt is confusing your offensive line,
there is an issue. There's a big issue, and it
just seems the frustrations there because I I do think
the Texans have had offensive plays that were gonna hit
and be home runs if you gave C justh out
of the time.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
It's not like he forgot to throw football, right. He
can still make those throws. And now it just seems
with oh, I gotta get this out early. I gotta
get this this throw off into into coverage or into
space because I may not have that half second. Was
it two and a half you said was two and
a half? Yeah, And in this game and in this sport,
it's it's milliseconds. And so if he's if he's throwing

(37:59):
it early and the guy is not, you know, out
of his break defenders there and his eyes are up.
So yeah, there's gonna be some hard conversations in the
off season if things aren't fixed over the next four
or five weeks. Daneil Hunter.

Speaker 5 (38:12):
As we get into the seven o'clock hour, Daniel Hunter
had some interesting things to say after that loss. We
didn't get to play yesterday, so I want to roll
that back. He talked about game planning or lack thereof.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
What does that mean. We'll talk about it next. As
we get into this seven o'clock hour right here on
Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 16 (38:28):
Ninety kd E Houston at Houston, my heart radio station,
the Astrosros, the Rockets, Rockets Basketball, your home for your
home teams.

Speaker 2 (38:41):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 17 (38:47):

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
To usc true longtime friend shown Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Sells Very Show.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
Improved the twenty one to nine.

Speaker 5 (39:09):
After a win last night against the Pelicans, they take
on the te Wolves tonight over at the Toyota Center.
Seven o'clock is the tip off, six o'clock launch bat
right here on seven out of your home four Rockets Basketball,
Cowboys shutting down, Ceedee lamb Omarvis Skelle, eleven time goal.
Glover going to join us at eight o'clock this morning.
So in about an hour from now, you don't want
to miss that interview. We've been talking football in the

(39:30):
first hour. Gotta looking at the schedule. Got five bowl
games today in college football. You got Oklahoma and.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl, Yeah, Georgia Tech Vanderbilt
in the Birmingham Bowl, Yeah, Texas Tech and Arkansas in
the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Yeah, Syracuse, Washington State in the
Direct TV Holiday Bowl. Yeah, and then the Nightcap USC
Texas A and M and the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl.

(40:00):
You guys want to catch flight Pepa, Las Vegas will
be there, A and M, A M minus three and
a half on that game. Two and a half total, yep,
fast track. Yeah, and then you.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
Have let's see, in the NFL, I think there's four
games tomorrow. Three games tomorrow, Yeah, Chargers at the New
England Patriots, Denver at Cincinnati, that'll be a good one,
Arizona at the Rams. And then on Sunday you got
the rest of the NFL playing, uh full slate. Yeah,

(40:35):
I'm interested to watch that Denver at Cincinnati game. Cincinnati
still got a slim chance to make the playoffs. I'm
more more pumped watching the Rams. I don't think anyone
wants to play those guys right now. They're rolling, they're playing,
they're playing. This is this is where I'm at.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
You know how everyone has talked about and that Aaron
Rodgers and the ayahuasca and Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers that
and he kind of just he's an MVP and he
gets to play his resume all the time, right, that
same energy should have been used for Matt Stafford. Yeah,
because Matt Stafford has been doing the dang thing since
two thousand and eight when he was at Georgia, and

(41:09):
time and time again, he's out there just letting it rip. Yeah.
He's got to be what thirty four thirty five now,
so he might be older than that. And it just
seems that he did it with the lines at thirty six,
thirty six, Yeah, thirty looking at his stats, he's ripping
it to Cooper Cup, to to Puka. He's got Kyern

(41:32):
Williams back there. They had the weapons obviously there. There
are a few years remove from their their Super Bowl title.
But I don't know if anyone wants to play this
team that opening wild card weekend and then when they
get in they're they're playing good football.

Speaker 7 (41:44):
Man.

Speaker 5 (41:44):
They're nine and six. I want to say they're the
three seed right now in the NFC, which is basically
dominated by the Lions and the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Matt Stafford at thirty six is thirty five hundred yards,
twenty touchdowns, and eight picks this year. Yeah. That'll do. Yeah,
that will do. That'll play.

Speaker 5 (41:59):
Yeah, so they uh, let's see, they're the Yeah, they're
the three seed right now at nine and six.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
I don't think he wants to play those guys. I
wouldn't because, dude, the NFC. Actually, you know how to
take that back. Here's the crazy thing about the NFC.
You have it's the Lions, the Eagles, the Rams, the Falcons.
The Falcons are in an atrocious NFC South like they
they suck. Kirk Cousins just got benched for Michael Pennick junior.

(42:28):
Then you got the Vikings at thirteen and two and
they're the five seed because they can't win their division
against the Lions, and then they have Then you have
the Packers eleven and four as a sixth seed, and
then the Commanders are at ten and five into the
seven seed. The Vikings with thirteen wins and Sam Donald
Sam Donald, yeah at quarterback. Huh. You gotta put some

(42:49):
respect on Sam Donald for this season. Yeah, you have
to put respect any guys that get drafted and put
into be the face of the franchise and it doesn't
work out right, We've the time and time again, but
to stick with it. Do the journey man bounce around
from teams and then finally landed a spot where, hey,
this is the right spot for me, the right head coach,

(43:09):
the right offensive scheme. That's that's in your You see
it with Baker. Right, I'm not a Baker guy. Everyone
knows I'm a long but Baker's done the same thing.
Face of the franchise. He's gonna be the guy he
gets drafted with, you know, the top pick. He's gonna
be the guy doesn't turn out, bounces around, bounce around,
finds a spot and kind of rejuvenates his career, gets

(43:30):
another payday, and you get to see it time and
time again. And that's Sam Darlald. I mean, when you
got Justin Jefferson and Jordan Aid, football's fun. Yeah yeah, Justin.
I mean you can make a few those throws.

Speaker 14 (43:42):
Man.

Speaker 5 (43:43):
Justin Jefferson is him and Jamar Chase, what they're doing
this season is just ridiculous. Uh So looking ahead, just
real quick on the on the Baker Mayfield thing. So
the Buccaneers have the Panthers and then the Saints to
end the season. That should be two dubs for them,
even though in another good gotta give credit to Bryce Young.

Speaker 1 (44:02):
The last couple of weeks.

Speaker 5 (44:03):
Man, he's played so much better since being benched, being
brought back in, and the Panthers have won a couple
of games. Yeah uh here as of like they're four
and eleven. Uh this season, the Falcons, they've got to
play the Commanders on Sunday and they got the Panthers
ten their season. So that's gonna be kind of crazy

(44:24):
to see what the NFC South does as the playoff
picture is kind of starting to shape up as far
as uh, the AFC. Obviously we know the freaking Chiefs
are the number one seed again.

Speaker 1 (44:38):
Is this how the whole world felt during the Astros run? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (44:42):
Yes, oh well look the ass are back in the
back in the Alcs again. Just the parallels to the
Kansas City Chiefs and the Astros for that run is pretty, uh,
pretty phenomenal. Like it's it's it's kind of crazy when
you look at it, except the Chiefs have more championships
Chiefs fifteen to one, Buffalo Bills twelve and three, Baltimore

(45:04):
Ravens eleven and five, Houston Texans nine and seven, Steelers
ten and six, and then six, seven, eight, nine, kind
of up in the air. Like I said, the Bengals
have a slight chance of getting in the Colts slight chance.
The Broncos holding on for dear life. They did not
look good last week and they're taking on the Bengals.
The Broncos are in the seventh seeds, so and then

(45:27):
the Chargers are in the sixth seeds. So if it
all ended today, the Texans would take on the Steelers.
I can tell you what though, even though the Texans
got embarrassed with the Ravens, I like a matchup against
the Steelers, Chargers or Broncos better than I do the
Ravens in the first round, Ravens come back to town.

(45:47):
Let's say the Ravens, for whatever reason, were the fifth seed,
and they'd come back to town to take on the
Houston Texans in the first round. They would beat the
Brakes off of them, and Lamar Jackson would improve just
six and zero against the Texans and they would be
one and done. I feel a little bit better about
the Steelers matchup. I feel a little bit better about
a Broncos matchup Chargers. I don't know, Man Harbaugh has

(46:09):
has you know, Harbaugh's coaching win pretty well.

Speaker 1 (46:11):
He's you know, yeah, they win, right he wins, It
doesn't It doesn't matter what the record is. That guy
finds a way to win, especially big games. Yeah, I would.

Speaker 5 (46:20):
I would much rather than play the Steelers or the
Broncos over the Ravens.

Speaker 14 (46:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:25):
I think I think that the Texans defense can give
Boat next a lot of problems. Obviously he's had a
stellar rookie year. Yeah, start off slow, but really coming
on strong, hit his back half. But that Texas defenses
is too strong for a rookie quarterback, especially at home.
And then the Pittsburgh Steelers, I mean, prop three in
a row. I think they're they're they're scuffling their feet

(46:46):
a little bit. They kind of gave the division back
to Baltimore. But yeah, I think that's another matchup where
you know, Texas maybe just got a score twenty Yeah. Yeah, like,
hey guys, the defense is gonna do it. Just go
out there and get go, get you twenty points. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (47:04):
And these last couple of last couple of games, because
again you know the Texans playing on Wednesday and then
the Thursday game last night, there's still all the matchups
tomorrow and Sunday, and then the very next week is
going to be the final week. So these last two
games for some of these teams, there could be some shuffling.

Speaker 1 (47:20):
As far as playoffs standing.

Speaker 5 (47:21):
So whoever the Texans play, I'm assuming it's gonna be
the Steelers, Chargers, or Broncos unless something crazy happens and
Cincinnati sneaks in or Indianapolis sneaks in. There's still a
couple scenarios where those teams could get in. Even though
it's a slim chance of that happening, but there still
is a chance.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
Daniel Hunter, one of the edge.

Speaker 5 (47:39):
Rushers for the Texans, had to talk about had some
things to say talking about game planning.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
This is what Neil Hunter had to say. I just
feel like a lot of guys were on their keys.

Speaker 3 (47:50):
There wasn't enough energy.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
So a little bit of game plans editors another thing
that we could do. Hm.

Speaker 5 (47:58):
I find it interesting that players after the loss to
the Ravens, a couple of them, not just the Neil
Hunter talked about He just shrouded himself, said I came
out flat. The Neil Hunter said there wasn't enough energy.
They talked about energy, and we had a NFL insider,
Aaron Wilson on yesterday and he mentioned the same thing.
He's had a lot of guys in the locker room
kept talking about the energy was bad, there wasn't enough energy.

Speaker 1 (48:19):
Came out flat. Why dude, you're playing on Christmas. You're
playing at home against the Ravens that kicked your ass
in the playoffs. I know it was a quick turnaround,
but those same four teams that played on Christmas all
had to do the same thing. It's fair. I just,
I just it's like what Devil's advocate. You already have
your your seating locked in. Yeah I know not. This

(48:41):
game means nothing but just pride, an ego of being
a professional and playing against someone that's beating you, right, yeah,
saying all that. You can't you can't only score two points. Yeah,
you can't just scorre. You gotta do me a little more.

Speaker 5 (48:55):
So I see it as iXS know as players. Man,
we haven't offensively, we haven't really played well. Yeah we're
winning or we've won games, but it's thanks to our defense.
You would think they would want to come out full
on one hundred percent energy and really put on a

(49:18):
not a good show. That sounds so juvenile, but like
show what their offense is really capable of. And just
kind of let it a are out. You open up,
open up the book, and throw everything at the Ravens
score two points.

Speaker 1 (49:32):
Well, also say this, you don't want to show them much, right, Yeah,
like let's just let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
Let's actually, I don't think the way that Bobby Slowers
call plays, there's probably not.

Speaker 5 (49:42):
Much the show, or at least this year. Yeah, there's
any innovation in this offense.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
This year in theory. Yeah, in a vacuum of you
one hundredercent right, Yeah, you know what it feels like,
and me and you are not NFL players, but it
feels like on that back end of a road trip
where you're angry with your teammate. It doesn't matter, like
someone could just say, hey, the sky is blue, like no,
it's it's great, and then it sets you up. That's

(50:06):
what it kind of feels like. You're just on this
back on the road trip. You've lost a few games,
You're on this bus ride. You just want to get
back to school, get back from your apartment, just get back. Yeah,
that's what it kind of feels like. You're just kind
of like, all right, when's the playoffs? Like you have
a get right game against against Tennessee, right, put them away,
hopefully to get right, blow them out. They they have

(50:26):
their own issues. It just kind of feels that mentality,
just like, yeah, all right, let's let's get to the playoffs.
Let's get to the playoffs and see what happens. Because
flat is an understatement of what we saw on Netflix,
which I did see it. There's no buffering this time,
so that was good. Yeah, figure that one out. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (50:44):
It took just a boxing match to get that figured out.
So that was that was a good one. You know,
that was something to uh, I guess the silver lining
in it because it was an ass whoopon of all kinds.

Speaker 7 (50:53):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
And also the game plan thing, you could throw that
one you had right out the window because it didn't
work right, Like, hey, you know we found it. We
found a new way to succeed it. And what's that
game plan? Because if you get matched up with them
in uh in January, you can't run that one back. Yeah,
So then then you got to start to think about
who's gonna play against the Titans, who's not.

Speaker 5 (51:11):
I wouldn't play c J. Shroud, I wouldn't play Nico Collins.
I wouldn't play any of my core guys. I don't
give a damn no, you're not playing. Go Davis Mills,
here you go, Bubba, it's all on you.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Put your feet up, big play, Davis, put your feet up,
make it happen, have a good time.

Speaker 5 (51:27):
Yeah, man, I'm not I'm not playing any of my guys.
All right, let's get to the steakout. Cam Newton, what
the hell did he say? Let's talk about it in
the steak out next? On Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (51:35):
Ninety Oh, have we played it for?

Speaker 18 (51:38):
Blam?

Speaker 1 (51:39):
Ain't Hey, it's Jeff Blum. You've got more.

Speaker 15 (51:41):
Sean Salisbury to pick up for he left off Dolphin
on Sports Talk seven ninety Home of your Stros All right.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
Sean, what are you hearing out there now?

Speaker 4 (51:57):
The Salsbury's stakeoute takeouts?

Speaker 12 (52:01):
On the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 1 (52:14):
It's time for the steak out here on the Shawn
Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (52:19):
Before we get to the steak out, question seven seven
ninety's number to join, Get out to the phone lines.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
What's happening to John?

Speaker 3 (52:26):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (52:27):
Good morning?

Speaker 19 (52:28):
Hey, I want a wigh in on this. Detections have
got to do what the chiefs did? I mean when
Patrick Mahomes got bashed around in that Super Bowl and
couldn't do anything. You know, he's on his back a
lot of the time. And you'll say they have some
interior linemen hurt. But what they did after that Super
Bowl is they spent big on I think it was

(52:48):
Patriots free agent left guard I think was Joe Thuney.
They gave him a five year, eighty million dollar contract.
And then they got Antonio Brown or excuse me, Orlando Brown.
And then they hit it big in the draft by
getting uh, right guard Tray Smith and and uh, I
think it was Creed Humphrey. But but the thing is
the Chiefs, rather than worry about getting better receivers and things,

(53:11):
they knew that they had to build that line to
give Mahomes the protection. I mean, any quarterback is going
to be like what c. J. Stroud has turned into
if they don't get the protection. And the Texans have
got to do that, and they got to focus on
that offensive line. They just they just have to won't
matter what we get for receivers or running backs.

Speaker 1 (53:31):
And just won't.

Speaker 19 (53:32):
So we've got to get serious about this offensive line.
And then we got to get an offensive line coach.
Of course you're not been harping on that all season,
but they got to get somebody that these players respect
and you know that say, oh, I don't feel like
practicing today. I mean, they've got to be able to
function as a unit and practice and work hard at it.
And uh and and so I don't know if there's

(53:53):
if you know, maybe uh, Demico gets a little intimidated
some if it's an older coach that's more seasoned. I don't no,
But you know, we've got a young coaching staff, and
I think that's got to change. I think we got
to bring in some people that really know what they're doing,
and we got to bring in some talent, and we
got to go to free agent market. We got to
spend big on getting some people in that interior to

(54:14):
help out Stroud. I just don't see where we have
any other recourse. I think that's what the focus should be.
I want to weigh in on that.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
Appreciate it, John.

Speaker 5 (54:22):
I think when it comes to the offensive line, there's
going to be a lot of discussion about it this offseason.
Regardless of how far they go in the playoffs or not,
there's going to be discussion whether they need to move
some guys spend big drafted. I don't know. You gotta
improve it with whatever it looks like, spending a bunch
of money on some interior alignment. It's got to be improved.

(54:45):
There's no doubt, all right for this stake out. Let's
hear from Cam Newton talking about Major League Baseball. This
is what Cam Newton had to say on his podcast.
I believe it's fourth and one. Let me double check
that real quick. Yeah, it is the fourth and one podcast.
That is his podcast. This is what he had to say.

Speaker 6 (55:09):
Baseball is like a I hate to say, a dying sport.
I think baseball would be surpassed by w NBA in
twenty years. Baseball ain't even being played by Americans anymore.

Speaker 1 (55:30):
What's bring back steroids?

Speaker 2 (55:32):
Bro, bring back steroids for baseball?

Speaker 1 (55:36):
Brom telling you to change everything? All right?

Speaker 5 (55:40):
So that's Cam Newton Fourth and one with Cam Newton
on this podcast. Arguably one of the worst takes I've
ever heard I have. It's the worst take of twenty
twenty four. For sure, baseball has seen an increase an
increase in viewership and attendance over the last two years.

(56:01):
It's not it's not a dying sport. And there is
no way in hell. And that's no disrespect to what
the w n b A is doing. They will never
pass baseball. It's not happening. It is not even close
to happening. They can't even the w NBA can't even

(56:23):
figure out what to do with their stars, let alone
sell out arenas. You just had a New York l
a World Series where you brought all the dog and
Pony show from Fat Joe singing before the game, ice
Cube singing before the game.

Speaker 1 (56:47):
Gary Cole pointing at a fan in the stands. I
guess not covering the bag. Judge O'TAWNI bets I get it.
Freddy Freeman, Nest Cortez. Now, if that take came a
year prior after the South Oklahoma, oh yeah, then I'd
be like, oh, Cam's got point against the Diamondbacks. Yeah,

(57:09):
but now absolutely not. What a take, one of the
worst I've ever heard. You gotta get your takes in
we we live in a take world. Get your takes.
I get it, but it's just not true. I will
his I think his producer that I've seen some of
the clips throughout right, the bringback steroids thing. Yeah, baseil

(57:29):
was fun. Yeah, I mean to the point where Slugfests
one of the greatest sporting games of all time. Video
games was unbelievable good tied in directly to the steroid era,
tried to directly into what we're watching day in and
day out. If it wasn't for the steroid era, maybe
the take was correct. Baseball was dying.

Speaker 5 (57:49):
Mark maguire and Samy supposed to save and they were
both on steroids.

Speaker 1 (57:52):
Saved baseball. Barry Bonds saa, what the what the boys play?

Speaker 14 (58:00):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (58:00):
I agree with that sake. Let the boys play. I'm
not opposed to it. One of the worst.

Speaker 5 (58:09):
They will never w NBA will never surpass baseball. And
he said, twenty years, you should see some of the
talent that is coming up throughout the ranks in baseball.

Speaker 1 (58:23):
Twenty years, he said, Yeah, that's when the doctors start
paying all their players, right, true, Yes, the third payments.
Yeah yeah, Antani, Well, he could be on something I
don't know, And I agree with him that baseball.

Speaker 5 (58:33):
Look the international guys for uh Major League Baseball, whether
it's Venezuelan, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Korean.

Speaker 1 (58:42):
Korean, Japan, all that I think He's got a point there,
but also, the NBA has nothing but international stars right now.
Say baseball is doing this and you're losing popularity when
basketball's numbers are worst.

Speaker 5 (59:00):
Yes, so what I mean, Yeah, Nicole not American, Jim Luka,
Doncons Alexander.

Speaker 1 (59:10):
It shouldn't matter an American where you were born and
where you're playing. It's you're playing at the top of
the top, right, So honestly, it make probably makes the
sports better because you're getting more fans from these countries.
We see time and time again, Josel TiO. He has
been vilified, right, but every time you see a video
with him, it's it's people traveling from all over, especially
where you're about to have Omar who's from Venezuela as well. Yeah,

(59:32):
we could talk to him about that. That guy, he's
the Beatles when he's walking around. We saw it at
spring training when the World Baseball Class is going on,
right and he's playing in his in his Venezuelan color. Yeah,
everyone wanted a photo with him. Everyone wanted an autograph
with him. So it doesn't matter where you're playing from.
Just get the best of the best play. Yeah, it's
it's it's just not gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (59:53):
W n B A No, the NHL will have forever
have better ratings and w like like I said, WNBA
cannot figure out what to do with their stars. I
this sounds really bad. Maybe I need to pay more
attention to the WNBA. But what's the stud in the

(01:00:14):
NBA's name Wilson a jaa Wilson, John Wilson. I'm probably
butchering the hell out of that name for the Aces. Yes,
she's the best player in the WNBA and I don't
even really know about her until this season. And the
only reason I pay attention to the WNBA is because
of Kaitlyn Clark and the Angel Reese drama. And there's
other really good players that have come through the WNBA.
Diana Tross is one of the best to ever do it.

(01:00:35):
But yet they don't know what to do with their stars. Hell,
they can't even get Houston's team back. Yeah, well the
championships here.

Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Yeah, I'm not paying attention to the WNBA until Houston
gets a team back. Comments.

Speaker 5 (01:00:44):
Yeah four in a row for those Houston companys. Just
one of the you know what, hey shoot or shoot baby,
get your take off man, get the takes off right
before the new year. How one of the worst takes
I've I think I've ever heard man dying sport is
crazy by Cam Newton.

Speaker 18 (01:01:02):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:01:02):

Speaker 14 (01:03:03):
What's going on? Guys?

Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
What's happening?

Speaker 14 (01:03:07):
So I guess Superman? What's what's his name? Cam Newton?

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
Yes, he must never.

Speaker 14 (01:03:14):
His daddy must have never took me to a baseball game.
Baseball game is the best sport ever in my opinion.
I mean, opening days always going to be Opening Day.
You're gonna take your your boys and your daughters to
the baseball game. They're gonna play baseball property. And that's
just unreal that he would say something like that. I mean,
to me, that's I like Cam Newton, but that's kind

(01:03:37):
of stupid in my opinion.

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Yeah, I don't. I don't agree with the gill. How
long you've been watching baseball.

Speaker 15 (01:03:47):
So I don't know.

Speaker 14 (01:03:48):
I remember going to Astronom in the cheap seats in
the left field two dollars or two dollars a ticket,
and my dad he's take me every opening day, no
matter what. And it's a tradition. I've been doing my
kids forever, so i'm my grandkids. But yeah, it's a
great sport. You can you can actually sit there, yes,

(01:04:08):
with everybody and not miss a lot of things. And
you sound like football and basketball everything's flying around. But uh, yeah,
that's a terrible take. I don't understand. But why he
even said that.

Speaker 1 (01:04:18):
So you're that guy.

Speaker 5 (01:04:19):
You're that guy that tries to talk to everybody out
of baseball game.

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
Huh.

Speaker 14 (01:04:24):
Well, if my kids I'm trying to explain them what's going.

Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
On, Well that there's a difference between talking to your kids.
I'm talking about you know, people next to you.

Speaker 14 (01:04:34):
Well, people next year, normally my family member, people that
I know.

Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
Okay, so you're talking with the with your family. Okay,
that makes sense now, Gil.

Speaker 14 (01:04:43):
Sitting next to me, Gil, you start, You.

Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
Start the dude, you start the wave, don't you?

Speaker 14 (01:04:48):
Uh used to yees oh god, oh my god at
the astronom with with the orders. Oh my god, they
used to be. That was a big day back then, buddy.
I hate to say it, but it was.

Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
And you were the guy that was the drunk guy
in the stands screaming that we should start the waves.

Speaker 14 (01:05:05):
I was not stopping. Man, couldn't drink back I couldn't
drink back then, but back then at eighteen you could.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
So yeah, but you started the waves.

Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
Come on, Gil, I didn't start the wave, but I
participated it. You participated in it, right.

Speaker 14 (01:05:21):
Dang right with the pomps in the stands.

Speaker 5 (01:05:24):
That was in that dumb ass song playing Yeah, yeah,
you're a odd man.

Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
Stop that's in that. God, I forgot about that. No,
please don't actually don't fire that up.

Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
Dude, get get it triple if you if you can't
find that, get it, get it rolling.

Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
God. That is you know, it's just typical. Man. Of course,
Gill participate in the wave. Wave.

Speaker 5 (01:05:54):
Guy, I'm anti wave. I'm anti wave as well. I
think it's the dumbest thing in sports.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
You can have it. This is what I'll say. You
have any one home games, right, uh huh, let's have
some worthal let's you have ten wave opportunities a year.
You use the allocation. I don't want to see any
past the All Star break. Yeah, I'm with you, all right. Yeah,
I'll give you March. Yeah, I'll give you April. May

(01:06:20):
June when that calendar turns over and we're going down
the stretch. We got to win some ball games. I
don't need the wave going on when we're trying to
we're trying to secure a win. Dude, It happens, and
it happens time and time again. You heard the song
yet half This is the worst song of all time.

Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
That is terrible. Little trumpet riff right there, that is terrible.
Yankee Doodle dandel Dandy or whatever. Yankee Doodle Yankee doodle Dandy.
It looks like like civil war is about to happen
with that damn song.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
That is terrible. Man. They jammed that apparently that was
like the banger back then.

Speaker 5 (01:07:23):
Jill says it. Gill sings it every time he comes on.
That's terrible, man. Seven three two five, seven nineties. Go
out to Richmond and talk to John. What's happening to John?

Speaker 18 (01:07:34):
Hey, what's up?

Speaker 14 (01:07:34):
Brian? Uh?

Speaker 10 (01:07:35):
I just want to give my take on a couple
of things y'all been talking about with a lad month
or so, and it's, uh, the Laney Wilson issue.

Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
You are spot on with that guy. You are spot
on with your opinion on her Man.

Speaker 5 (01:07:49):
You talking about Are you talking about her over twang
or her lack of ass or both?

Speaker 14 (01:07:56):
Uh?

Speaker 10 (01:07:56):
Not the lack of ass, but the over twain.

Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
Yeah, over twaining, bro bad, And.

Speaker 10 (01:08:01):
You are every time I listen to you a spot on.

Speaker 18 (01:08:03):
With that, man, you are a spot on man.

Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
Cheating.

Speaker 10 (01:08:08):
That's all I wanted to get that you boys about man,
heave my off day. Man, I listened to you guys
every day. I had to come in on that and
the Texas Man. Let's get that old line ready man
for next year.

Speaker 12 (01:08:18):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
That just holding us back. Man, Hey, let me let
me ask you. Let me ask you a question, John.
Have you are you on social media? Yes, sir?

Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
Do you see some of the posts like from some
of those offensive line guys about their handbags and stuff?

Speaker 1 (01:08:33):
Not that it matters, but.

Speaker 14 (01:08:34):
Oh yo yo yo, I need beer.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
I need some beer drinkers on my on my offensive line.

Speaker 18 (01:08:39):
Hey, man, Hey, I got a six pack again?

Speaker 10 (01:08:42):
Is waiting on them guys?

Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
Man?

Speaker 10 (01:08:44):
Come on man, man, yeah, man, yeah, some bad but truth,
That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
Man, appreciate the call, Johnny getting.

Speaker 10 (01:08:52):
Stout ready for them guys, Come on, man, toughen up's
get it.

Speaker 5 (01:08:56):
I'm with you, John, appreciate it, man, join your day off,
enjoy day off and weekend man.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
Yeah, the the overtwying man. Did you hear that segment
last week? We were talking about it. I didn't, but
I've heard you mention it a few times. She we
found I found clips of her talking normally a right,
are you specifically talking about the overtwaying on Thanksgiving Day?
Or yeah? That was that was a bit.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
It was like a couple of weeks prior to the
Thanksgiving and she preview or she.

Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
What is it? She teased her her performance on Thanksgiving
Day and it was like, dude, it was brutal talking
about Dolly Parton and her her outfit because she performed
at Cowboy State or at Geruld. Right, Yeah, it was bad.
It was like over twenty like awful. And then since
then I started to pick up on it, and then
I found some clips of her on a couple podcasts

(01:09:48):
in a Red Carbon interview. She has a natural accent, right,
so she has a Southern accent, but it's it's not
anywhere close to what she does when she's on camera
or on stage. It's way over twanging. It's bad. You
gotta drop the the y and y'all you dudet it
like you got to bring the you gotta bring it.

Speaker 5 (01:10:08):
It's it's just way overdone. And Sean fights me on it.
So I found the clips and we played them a
couple of days ago. I think we played them on
Monday of this week, Monday or Tuesday. I don't even
how we got off on that subject, but yeah, it was. Uh,
it's just annoying, man, Hey, real quick. I teased it
this past segment. The average viewership of the NFL's Christmas

(01:10:30):
doubleheader twenty four point two million dollars or a million
dollars to twenty four point two million people, and then
over in the NBA on Christmas Day five point twenty
five million average year.

Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
Dude, they got dominated the games. Football is king compared
to what five NBA games, And actually the games are dominated.
Games are pretty damn good.

Speaker 14 (01:10:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
I didn't watch one of them. Didn't watch them. I
didn't watch one of them. They were well.

Speaker 5 (01:10:57):
I saw I saw the Lakers in Warrior or was
Austin Reeves at a game winner?

Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
Yeah? After there you go, Steph Curry? Yeah three three
double bang, Erry, Yeah, I heard that game is pretty good,
but no, I didn't watch. I didn't watch one minute
of it. He's the best. Would go who my brain?
The go yeah, the goat. If I was a pro

(01:11:25):
athlete and and I had that moment, yeah, I would
just have that in my house at any point. It's
like your doorbell. Yeah, like and just I can hit
a button at any point. Yeah, I would.

Speaker 5 (01:11:37):
If I was Lebron James trash. If I was Lebron James,
I would want where he goes.

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Block by Dames, Like as soon as you walk in
block by Dames, you know what, you close your grounds
block by Dame bang like something like that. If I
were to block someone on social media, I would just
that was just send that that. Yeah, man, I would,
And then he'd probably go to a Diddy party. That's fine.
We gotta go to break a lot of a lot

(01:12:06):
of a lot of Beyonce drama on the timeline yesterday
as well.

Speaker 5 (01:12:11):
It was a lot of it yesterday apparently. Uh, we're
not gonna go there. Don't worry about it. I don't
want the bay I have to come at us.

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yeah, I'm actually my right to the Fifth Amendment though, you're.

Speaker 5 (01:12:28):
Right, okay, yeah, that's fine, all right, just leave me
in the trenches taking grenades.

Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
John, It's all right, don't worry about it. All right,
let's get let's get to break right here on seven ninety.
And also, let me tell you about Daisy Sour Cream
launching their French owning and Ranch sour cream dips. I
love these dips, and these new dips from Daisy Sour
Cream are a game changer. They taste just as good
as as if they were homemade. They were made with
Daisy sour cream, real herbs and spices. And the new
dips from Daisy Sour Cream are made with ingredients you

(01:12:55):
can find in your kitchen.

Speaker 5 (01:12:56):
Nothing more full slight. NFL games tomorrow, Bowl games galore.
You've got more games on Sunday, and of course New
Year's Eve is next week. You need to get some
Daisy dips from Daisy Sour Kream to add to your

Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
Your local grocery store pick up.

Speaker 5 (01:13:17):
A couple of these new French onion ranch dips from Daisy.
Give them a try with your favorite chips wings vegetables
or other foods.

Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
You will not go wrong.

Speaker 5 (01:13:26):
Get over to the grocery store pick up the new
Daisy dips from Daisy Sour Cream.

Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
As we get ready to get into that eight o'clock
segment again, Well, we'll talk to Omarvis s Gal and
then eight o'clock we'll talk some astros Baseball'll talk about
the stay of the outfield, the retool, Kyle Bregman or
Kyle Pregnant, Kyle Tucker being traded. What's the latest on
Alex Bregman? Yeah, I mean, why not? Probably better than

(01:14:03):
Chas McCormick being in right field.

Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
But uh, that's so respect the Chazz, I mean what drive? No,
I would I would?

Speaker 5 (01:14:10):
I just you know what, give me Chazz in center
and then just trade Jake Myers because I'm just so
over it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:15):
Man, Why why is it there? Give me on? Here
we go, Here we go, Here we go.

Speaker 5 (01:14:19):
Why have we been on such a streak since George
Springer left? Why have we been on this streak of
just mid ass center fielders. They tried to force Miles
Straw on us. He was terrible, he was god awful.
Here now we've got Jake Myers and everyone. So Jack Myer,
Jake Myers, he hits like two ten every year with
an ops of like seven fifty.

Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Stop trying to force these mid ass outfielders on us.
This is the exact scene for Moneyball. This is not
trying to force mid outfielders on us. We're recreating him
in the aggregate, Brian, Joel. Yeah, recreated him the aggregate, Brian, And.

Speaker 5 (01:14:56):
Shout out to James. Click wherever you are, James, Where
is he at Toronto?

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Is he Toronto? I think is in Toronto? Is in Toronto?

Speaker 5 (01:15:03):
Shout out to James click for us trade Miles Straw
to get Yaner Diaz and philm Ayton. But look there,
he stopped trying mid outfielders on us. Look you're you're
just trying to recreating the aggregate, Brian. That's that's all
we're doing. Look get it, but damn it. Uh yeah,
I have some I have some thoughts. This is where

(01:15:27):
I'm at, and I know we're not gonna jump into it,
but we can jump in it later. I'm I'm worried
as a fan. I am worried because the conversation this
time last year was.

Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
Hey, guys, I think we need pitching. Hm, I think
we need pitching. And there was no moves, and what
we're being told from the powers to be, Hey, we're
rolling with this. We're going. We're going with our guys
and everyone. I think we need more pitching. I think
we need Now. Do we know Javier was gonna get Tommy? No?
Do we know uh jose Er Katie was gonna get

(01:16:00):
Tommy and shoulder was it Tommy? Do we know JB
was gonna have a slow ramp up and extended spring trading? No,
but going into all that, it was still a little thin.
So now we're three hundred and sixty five days later,
the conversations now shift to is this the outfield? We're
rolling with you? Because I think everyone here and I

(01:16:22):
think everyone online kind of knows that, Hey, we shored
up the infield. The infield looks great right now. Look
the moves were made, chapters were closed, it's a it's
a new dawn. The infield looks good. But the questions are,
what are you going to the outfield? You just had
your manager at winter meetings, You just had your GM saying, hey,

(01:16:45):
we're not gonna get the big guy in left field
that much this year we wanted to DH So we
have three outfield question marks that you're going to recreate
in the aggregate. You're starting outfield right now.

Speaker 5 (01:16:57):
If you don't have jord On and left is Dubon,
Jake Myers, Chas McCormick, that is arguably the worst outfield
in baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:17:05):
This is what I'll say. I'm a Jazz truther in
the sense of I think he's gonna bounce back positively.
Regression of the meme last year was it down here?
We all know that the struggles. I think he was
injured banged up the year before. Eight hundred ops. I'm
not saying he's an eight hundred OPS guy. He's a
seven twenty to seven to fifty OPS guy. That's that
is a good standard starter in the league. Yeah, you're

(01:17:29):
asking you're asking a lot for the other two spots,
especially a lot when you want to have a parade
on Louisiana Street. Because I look and I love Dubie.
He could play any position. He gives a lot of
guys the days off that that ben Zoeber's type role
is huge in modern day baseball. Yes, you gotta make

(01:17:51):
some moves we got it, and I'm not saying, you know,
it does seem it's going to be like a Jason Hayward,
a Jesse Winker, maybe a Verdugo. It's going to be
kind of the replacement level type players to kind of
do that platoon. I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:18:11):
I think that this retool was necessary, even though I'm
very frustrated how me as a fan, I'm very frustrated
how we got to this point. There are bad contracts there,
there was a span of no GM where you had
a former player acting as the GM and trading Kyle

(01:18:32):
Tucker I think was the right move. You were never
gonna sign him, He's gonna come in. He's you could have.
I agree earlier on he could have.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
I mean, but.

Speaker 5 (01:18:44):
If you're not going to sign him or even make
an attempt, which he's probably gonna command three three hundred
and fifty million dollars four hundred million dollars, then.

Speaker 1 (01:18:50):
You trade him and you try to get some good
pieces for him. This is and I agree that the
trade was. It hurt because of of what Kyle Tucker brings.
He's gonna be a top five MVP type voter getter.
Throughout his career, especially during his prime during the stretch.
But it was no secret that his talent is his talent. Yeah,

(01:19:12):
it was no secret that hey Wan Soto's in that
same free agent market. There's there's no secret that hey
Wan Soto's inn reset this entire marketing market. And even
even even that go back through six o Tani, like you,
there were signs, there were signs of this was where
is where in baseball is going where if you're not

(01:19:34):
playing Monopoly? Yeah, and you want to play this moneyball
stuff that was can get you a World Series appearance,
that can get you into the playoffs. Okay, the top
of the top are playing Monopoly. And look, Crane has
spent and he has been spending through this golden age.
That's not the issue. That's not the problem. Twenty twenty
five is just accumulation of robbing Peter to pay Paul

(01:19:57):
with prospects being traded in with bad contracts, and you
kind of have to now you're paying the piper in
twenty twenty five. I always I think twenty twenty five
is the year before the year. Yeah, I think the
ashes and twenty six are lined up. Look, how much
money is gonna be available on in twenty twenty six.
The pitching, and I think twenty five is gonna be
an interesting year and the fact that the vision is down.
I think it's gonna be South Oklahoma and Houston battling

(01:20:20):
out to eighty five wins to win the division because
this pitching is damn good. Yeah, and it's gonna take
that next step up. So the pitching is gonna get you.
There can the bats, Yeah, you have the infield, but hey,
it almost feels like a bag of chips, right right,
You open that bag of chips and it's half full,
a half four or you half empty. So that's kind

(01:20:41):
of where it is. If you can shore up spots
and it's not I would love as a fan go
get Santander, right, but that puts you way over. You
give up you and the different tax threshold, and that's Crane.
Jim Crane doesn't want to do it. And there's that conversation. Right,
But if you show a plan of like, hey, we're
gonna get Heyward again or Wink or whoever it is, Yeah,

(01:21:01):
and you show up these spots, but like this what
we're to roll with, Okay, we'll Swiss army knife it
and we'll figure it out for you know, one's sixty two. Yeah,
you just gotta show me that. And I think they
get there.

Speaker 5 (01:21:10):
Yeah, we'll we'll dig deeper into this stuff. There's a
couple different layers of des and I are going to
get to in the clay in the eight o'clock hour.
But next we're gonna welcome in eleven time gold Glover
former Big leaguer Omar Viscal next here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Before we get to that, it's time for

Speaker 4 (01:23:24):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Shawn Salsbury Show.

Speaker 5 (01:23:32):
We're gonna welcome in three time All Star, eleven time
goal glover, former MLB star Omar Vis gal Omar. We
appreciate you joining us. Happy holidays. Let's start with a
little bit of Astros. What did you think of the
Kyle Tucker trade?

Speaker 9 (01:23:49):
Well, man, uh hi, everybody, I'm very excited to speak
with you guys about the Houston Nostrils, a team that
has been news for these i will say last six years.

Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
People.

Speaker 9 (01:24:01):
Is very excited about the opportunity the team have to
go to the World Series and everything.

Speaker 18 (01:24:06):
And now we're speaking about a player.

Speaker 9 (01:24:08):
That has been an icon for the Houston Astros and
we are very sad to see this guy go because
we know everything he did through the team. But as
you know, players don't have a you know, a guarantee
lifetime in a baseball team. You know, all these negotiations
and free agency and all this stuff, and you know.

Speaker 18 (01:24:29):
We have to get used to it as players and
also as hands.

Speaker 9 (01:24:33):
You know, sometimes our life run out with this contract.
And even though that we want to belong to the team,
there are issues and there are things that make us
go to different organizations. And this is a case of
Kyle Tucker, a guy that gives everything to the Houston Astros,
and now we have to see him go and only him.

(01:24:55):
You know, we got all the players now that we
are fall in love, like the case of Alex Bredman
with another guy that is in these kind of situations.

Speaker 18 (01:25:03):
But you know, it's it's it's really sad that when
you got teammates like this and you see.

Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
Them go oh maar a man with seventy seven hits.
In the show, we got to talk hitting One, what
was your approach like to kind of get to where
you were in your career and how do you did
how you sustain that? And then two have you seen
players today that kind of replicate or something that you

(01:25:29):
see like, oh, that was that was what I was
doing back during your career twenty plus years.

Speaker 9 (01:25:35):
Well, after the season is over, I always like to
go back into videos and see how can I improve?
Maybe if I want to improve my average, try to
hit the ball the other way a little bit, or
you know, do something that make me a better offensive player.
You know, I wasn't one of those that really depend
on the hitting, even though that I hit second on

(01:25:57):
the line up. But you always find ways, you know,
try to analyze yourself to come back stronger to the
next year. And I think this is what most of
the players do when when they come to spring training,
they like to analyze their swings again, they work with
new people during the off season, they get stronger.

Speaker 18 (01:26:16):
You don't want to lose the.

Speaker 9 (01:26:17):
Flexibility of you know, having your good numbers and try
to balance it out with the average. So you know,
there is a long process that take over during this time.
You kind of sometimes you feel like you did do
your best, but there is always a room to improve
every year. And this is what we like to do
in the in the off season.

Speaker 5 (01:26:38):
And Omar talking about off season and trying to improve,
one of the best things I think that you do
is is some of these baseball clinics down in your
home country of Venezuela. Obviously, Jose al Tuvey is a
Venezuelan baseball player.

Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
Place here for the Astros.

Speaker 5 (01:26:52):
There's you know we all know that, but can you
just talk a little bit about what you what exactly
you do with these clinics down in Venezuela and your
connection with with hose Al two Bay since you guys
are both from Venezuela.

Speaker 9 (01:27:05):
Yeah, we you know, we this basically to keep in
twelve and there's all this time really a solo.

Speaker 18 (01:27:16):
By all the fundamentals of the game. You know, you
speak to them.

Speaker 9 (01:27:20):
About possible uh problems that can that can affect your
career that you can face on you know, speaking with
the language, different culture.

Speaker 14 (01:27:31):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:27:32):
You know, the fact that you have to live now
with American American people and you have you have to
adjust to a completely new way of life.

Speaker 18 (01:27:40):
Uh. So they don't they don't fail.

Speaker 9 (01:27:43):
When when you sign this professional contract. Everybody wants to
play baseball. We're trying to do their best with our
best to guide him into the right direction. And you
know this is what we do here and uh right
now the playoffs from the Venezuela League starting, so there
is a lot of exciting about baseball and we try
to take the time to let speak to them about

(01:28:05):
these fundamentals and making grow a stronger mind when when
when you face these kind of problems, you get out
of it.

Speaker 5 (01:28:15):
And uh, with with these clinics, what do you what's
the big focus for you when it comes to these
clinic Is it more of development? Is it just trying
to get kids and and the younger generations around baseball?
Like what's your main focus with that? Do we lose them?

(01:28:37):
Om are you still there? We'll see if we can
get him triple. I don't know if you can try
to see if we can uh get o Marves goal
back up. But I mean as we we've looked like
he's calling back in. We'll get that figured out here
in just a second. But big leaders going back for
camps in their whether it's their hometown here in the States,

(01:29:00):
uh down in a different country, it's always a phenomenal thing,
especially for the for the youth.

Speaker 1 (01:29:04):
Yeah. Absolutely, yeah, I think today's day and age two
with socials, you can see how the athletes doing the
community Germans, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:29:11):
There's no doubt. I'll see if we can get Omar
Omar you got us there?

Speaker 18 (01:29:15):
Yes, I'm here.

Speaker 9 (01:29:16):
And as I was saying that this is the right
this is the right moment to talk to them about,
you know, exploring new new ideas and and and exploring
your your full potential as a player. When you talk
to them and ask them what what are they afraid
of or or what are the weakness that you think

(01:29:36):
that you have. So you talk to them about getting
these fundamentals strong and when they face these different situation
they come out on top.

Speaker 1 (01:29:50):
Do we lose again?

Speaker 12 (01:29:51):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:29:51):
Are you there?

Speaker 18 (01:29:52):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (01:29:53):
Okay, sorry, I thought we thought we lost you again.
Have a little difficulty ONNR and eleven time Gold Glover
Omarvis Gale joining us here on the Sean Salisbury s.

Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
Let's talk a little Hall of Fame voting.

Speaker 5 (01:30:05):
You've got Billy Wagner, former Houston astro one of arguably
one of the best closers of all time, trying to
inch closer to the percentage needed to get elected into
the Hall of Fame. Obviously, you are coming up on
year number eight on the ballot. What do you think
of some of the new guys on this ballot and
some of the current guys that are continuing to try
to inch closer to that Hall of Fame.

Speaker 9 (01:30:27):
Well, I believe Billy Wagner have a very legitimate chance
this year, since last year, he was very close to
the name in the Hall of Fame each year. Rod Susuki,
I think he is a number one guy that have
a very good opportunity. Andrew Jones have a pretty good
chance to be on that list. So there is a

(01:30:48):
lot of guys that have the opportunity to be there.
We just have to wait to see what the voters
half in their mind.

Speaker 8 (01:30:55):
You know.

Speaker 9 (01:30:55):
As you know, there is a lot of new voters
now that are coming into the the the voting of
the Hall of Fame, and that can change things.

Speaker 18 (01:31:04):
A little bit.

Speaker 5 (01:31:06):
Do you do you think any of these, you know,
guys that are coming up on like night, like Billy
Wagner's obviously tenth, Andrew Jones is the eighth. How about
a guy Manny Ramirez his ninth year on the ball.
Do you think we could get Manny in at some point?

Speaker 18 (01:31:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:31:21):
I think man is one of those cases where you know,
he got involved in some problems during his career, and
I think people rsa feel a little weird.

Speaker 18 (01:31:33):
Signing voting for him.

Speaker 9 (01:31:35):
And you know, when we get involved in this kind
of problem, I think the voters get to wait a
little bit until the last year or something.

Speaker 18 (01:31:43):
Like that. But there is no doubt in my mind
that Manny Ramirez is one.

Speaker 9 (01:31:47):
Of the best hitters in the history of the game,
not only on the era that he played, but in
the history of the game, and he have to be
voted into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5 (01:31:55):
Eleven time Gold Glover, three time All Star. Omar Viscal
a couple more minutes with Omar here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. I want to get back to a little
bit about the Houston Astros and what we've kind of
seen over the last I'd say about months. Not a
tear down, but a retool. Alex Bragnan is still a
free agent. The report is Omar that he was offered

(01:32:17):
six years for one hundred and fifty six million dollars
year with the Houston Astros.

Speaker 1 (01:32:21):
Do you think that's a fair offer.

Speaker 18 (01:32:24):
Well, I don't know if it is a fair offer
or not.

Speaker 9 (01:32:27):
I think the Houston Astros have to try to get
involved a little more in this player. I think Alex
represent what the Houstern astron is all about. He's being
their franchise player for a long time and they have
to try their best to try to keep this guy
on the team. I know that sometime he's kind of

(01:32:48):
frustrated because the agents are very tough trying to sign
these contracts.

Speaker 18 (01:32:54):
But as a.

Speaker 9 (01:32:54):
Player, you know, you also have to say enough is enough.
This is what I feel happy with, this is what
I feel comfortable. I think they used for Nastros treat
me very good since the beginning of my career, and
I'm going to try to do my best to stay
in the team and try to get a deal done.
So you know, it's just a matter of getting a

(01:33:15):
communication with your agent and with the people that you're
dealing with.

Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
And the Astros obviously in the Kyle Tucker trade got
Issak Perettes looks like he's going to be starting at
third base. And then the Astros went and signed Christian Walker,
a little bit older first baseman, but a gold Glove
first baseman can hit with power. What do you think
about that, signing for the Houston Astros to play first base.

Speaker 9 (01:33:39):
Well, you know, you always try to look for the
position that you really need. We know that after a
break who signed that contract and he didn't perform the
way that the Houston was expecting too.

Speaker 18 (01:33:53):
They have a little bit of problem there.

Speaker 9 (01:33:55):
They run a lot of guys in there in that
position that they couldn't really produce they wanted to, and
they finally got their guy. You know, they finally got
a guy that is an All Star heat for power
where he can hit for average, and he's seems to
be really excited to being on the team. He's been
very vocal about how excited he is to be at

(01:34:16):
an Astros and that can really help a team going.
You know, I think they have their players that they
wanted to.

Speaker 5 (01:34:22):
And last couple of seconds with Omar Viscal eleven time
goal glover here on the Shawn Salisbury Show. You know,
you had Dana Brown, you also had Joe Spot of
both kind of publicly say over the last month that
they didn't want to have jor Don Alvarez play a
lot of left field in the next couple of seasons. Well,
the outfield, Omar, you've got Dubon, You've got Jake Myers,

(01:34:43):
You've got Chas McCormick. Des and I were talking about
it a little bit before we got into the interview
with you that they need to make another move, whether
it's another trade, sign a left handed bat for the outfield.
They got to make some kind of move because that's
not the opening day outfield. You can have to try
to be back to the Alcs. What do you think

(01:35:04):
kind of move they should try to make to bolster
that outfield.

Speaker 18 (01:35:08):
Yeah, there is no doubt that they need another bat
in there with power.

Speaker 9 (01:35:12):
I know there has been a lot of talk about
Anthony Santon. There a guy that have the best year
last year with the Baltimore Orioles. I think it's a
guy that fit very good on the lineup. Besides, he's
gonna be a friend of Altube, who is also from Venezuela.
The I think this guy can have a lot of
damage on the lineup. And I think they're just waiting,

(01:35:35):
you know, it's kind of early still to make move
and to make trades. There is no doubt they're still
talking UH and until they don't find the right guy
to fill that position out there in the outfield, they're
not gonna stop. You know, right now, they're quiet, but
I think they have a surprise under the table that
they're dealing with UH and they are waiting until on

(01:36:00):
a spring training star maybe even on the first week
of spring training, they might bring a guy that everybody's
gonna be excited. Is gonna be happy, but they know
that with the can of lineup they have right now,
they're not gonna be going all the way because there
is other teams that have stronger lineups. And even though
the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners are not making

(01:36:23):
too many moves, the teams that they're fighting in the division,
they know that to go farther along the playoffs, they
need to add it another power.

Speaker 1 (01:36:33):
Back and last question here, Omar, do you think the Astros,
if this is the last move they make with the
Christian Walker signing, are they the favorites to win the
Al West going into twenty twenty five.

Speaker 14 (01:36:45):
Yes?

Speaker 18 (01:36:45):
I hope so.

Speaker 9 (01:36:47):
I hope so that they can find a spot for Bregman.
I hope that they can find Bragman because this is
the key guy for them. If they can find Bragman
and they keyboard the other guys, I think they can.

Speaker 18 (01:36:58):
Go all the way.

Speaker 5 (01:37:00):
And that's eleven time Gold Glover, three time All Star
on the Hall of Fame battle Hope. Let's get you
some more percentage points, Omar. Can can we get that going?

Speaker 21 (01:37:08):
Yes?

Speaker 18 (01:37:08):
Please? Why don't you let the people know to a
little bit more of me? Please?

Speaker 5 (01:37:15):
Omar, we always appreciate you coming on here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Thank you for the sporting Let's talk
again right before baseball season.

Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
You go with that.

Speaker 9 (01:37:23):
Sure, Yeah, I'm here for you, guys man, whatever you
need me.

Speaker 1 (01:37:27):
Awesome, enjoy weekend, Omar. That's Omar Vis skel joining us
here on the Sewan Salisbury Show. Eleven time Gold Glover,
three time All Star. Let's dig into some Astros baseball.
Next on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
Let the celebration start war Sewn Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (01:37:43):
It's a Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 5 (01:37:47):
Rolling along here on the Seawn Salisbury Show, Viscale thinks, uh,
Astros should still try to find a spot for Bregmann.

Speaker 1 (01:37:59):
Let's say it happens. I know it's not going to,
but let's just say it does. You're gonna get too
many people worked up on the internet. And where where
are you gonna? Where's he playing? You gonna play third base? Okay?
Where where's the sock prette is going? Yeah? Can he play?
Can he play outfield? He's never played outfield in his career.
I think that chapter is closed. Well on freaks everyone else,

(01:38:24):
So we'll just say ninety But yeah, it's a. It's
a new era. It's a new era Astros face of
the franchise to parts uh An MVP candidate, cornerstone, right
fielders moved and it's newer. And and I've been a

(01:38:45):
little not hypercritical Internet, but reactional and emotional points because
obviously we've been fortunate to know the guys. Right, there's
a there's the baseball player, and then there's the guy.
We got to know the guy, so there's always gonna
be that human element to it, the baseball fan and me.

(01:39:05):
The the infield is solid, I think the arguably probably
the best infield maybe in baseball. You got pop Now
at first an third, JOSEL two is gonna be Hooseel
t Ba is going to continue to grow up and
become the ballplayer we all expect him to be, which
is a top a lote guy. I mean, for most

(01:39:28):
of the year, minus the home runs, he's he's up
there and every statistic with Ali Rushman and right and
Ally's getting every blog, every ESPN story, every everything on
MW network and is just constantly putting together really good
at bats throughout the entire year. I HE'SNNA He's gonna
grow into I'm gonna call it the hunter Brown bump.

(01:39:51):
I think we'll see that this year. There was a
lot on his play, I believe last year just like hey,
go be the guy, and that's a lot of pressure.
I think they're easing that off. You have a or
stop who hopefully continues to grow with the with the
bat we we we've seen the struggles. We know the
struggles of the sliders away. I I since there'll be

(01:40:11):
an adjustment there. We've heard the approach philosophy that is
going to change, going back to their roots. It's just
like I said on the seven o'clock second. The questions
for all of us now is what are you gonna
do the outfield? It's the same three hundred and sixy
five dac is. We're like, what are we gonna do
with the pitching? And I don't want to sit here
in June and July and be like we now have

(01:40:35):
to make moves because of what we didn't do in
December and January. And granted there's there's probably gonna be
moves made to to free up salary and get you
an opportunity to get these guys. But what's only comment
on is what we've seen, right now and this outfield
is not ready for this run?

Speaker 15 (01:40:55):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:40:56):
Can you? Can you get there? Over one sixty two percent?
Of course you teams do it less. But it's not
about and this is what I'm worried about. The shift
in mindset should never be what can we do to
win the division? I know that's the first step. Right,
you win the division, you get in the playoffs. The
standard is you're playing in the ALCS in Houston with

(01:41:19):
a fan base that is accustomed to it. One, but
two you have to do also right by twenty seven.
You have to keep giving him opportunities to shatter all
the records and keep giving him opportunities to put his
name in the history books. Because he was a villain,
He was vilified, he was the scapegoat for something that
wasn't about him. So what can you do to make

(01:41:42):
sure he's protected, make sure he has every opportunity to
have his name on top of the record books, because
you know what, you can't there's there's no eraser on sharpie. No,
his name is gonna be there forever. Yeah, So I
as a fan selfishly want twenty seven more opportunities to
do that. And so I think they did that the
with the offense. I think the pitching is going to
be really really good this year. Obviously, the three headed

(01:42:05):
monster in the bullpen, we need to see some growth.
You still have the guys, Now, what can you do
to win the division? Get back to the Houston invitation,
which is the alcs, and what can you do to
match up against the Dodgers, Right, because let's just let's
let's call it what it is. The Dodters should be
penciled in for the next decade as the National League winner.

(01:42:28):
So what can you do to make sure when that
opportunity comes you beat That's where we're at.

Speaker 5 (01:42:34):
Yeah, let's let's continue to discussion on the other side
of it, because we've got to talk more about this
outfield for the Houston Astros and what okay, you talk
about your concern if we go into June and July,
if they don't make any moves and that trade deadline
comes back around, So let's discuss that as well.

Speaker 1 (01:42:50):
Right here on Sports Talk seven to.

Speaker 4 (01:42:51):
Eighty, the Sewn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 1 (01:42:58):
We had Omarvis gil he joined us today o'clock. If
you missed that interview, it's going to be up on
our blog after the show at Sports seven ninety dot
com talking Astros baseball. Kyle Tucker traded, Alex Bregnan is
still a free agent. Excuse me, you got some good prospects.
You got de Zenzo, Shay Whitcomb, Melton camp Smith. Then

(01:43:22):
you have a pitching staff that should be pretty deep
for the most part, especially if you get a healthy
Lance mccolors. Luis Garcia might be a little bit behind mccullors. Arraghetty,
Hunter Brown fromber still an Astro. You want a scorching
hot take. Oh yeah, I think, and this is just

(01:43:44):
me being bnel Blanco. Yeah, got him. I think Spencer
is going to get cy Young votes this year. Hear
me out, Yeah, hear me out. Hold on, hear me out. Okay,
hold on, I like this tap excuse me, hell or
high water? Hell or high water. That kid's gonna get

(01:44:06):
you eight to ten strikeouts again. Well, you saw the
bowling balls that he was throwing last year. You get
that rolling, we get the whip down. Let's bring the
whip down to a good neighborhood. And all of a
sudden he has two hundred something strikeouts, strikeout any guy,
twelve thirteen wins, get that el right down and get

(01:44:28):
that whipped down, mister Lugo for Kansas City, same ball
parking numbers, strikeout guy. I think Spencer can get those numbers.
I think he's going to be able to be in
that number three spot roll right. I mean you can
argue Renel or a healthy Luis or Lance. Spencer's gonna

(01:44:50):
get his strikeouts and that's something this team thrives on.
I think he's gonna We saw Hunter Brown take that
jump from butting prospect to butting ace. You have Framber
doing Framber things. He's gonna give you a solid hundred
eighty five innings. Saying all that, I think Spencer's the
one to circle and be like, hey, this guy's gonna

(01:45:12):
take that jump. And that guy has the moxie. We
said it on Beyond the Diamond, we say it all
the time. That guy has that front of the line
ace type mentality. You can't teach that, you can't you
can't force that. You you have this kid that just
has that moxie and I think he's a guy that
can do that carry the staff and it helps that

(01:45:32):
having two guys in front of them that are pretty
damn good.

Speaker 5 (01:45:35):
So you look at his numbers from this past season.
Excuse me, twenty eight games started, he was seven and thirteen.
Got the era down below five. It was at a
four four point five three at the end of the season.
One hundred and seventy one strikeouts, sixty five walks, and
like you said, the whip a little bit up there,
one point four to one.

Speaker 1 (01:45:53):
Excuse me.

Speaker 5 (01:45:54):
So in his first full season of starting twenty well
not first full season, but pretty much twenty eight games started,
how many innings pitch one hundred and forty five?

Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
How many punch does he have on that? He had
one hundred and seventy one sixty five walks. I'm telling you,
you get that whip down, you get those walks down,
and him and Hunter you throw out those first six
seven weeks right when it was just bad. Yeah, it
was just bad. I think you could take that that
next step up and Hunter Brown was atrocious. Yeah, but

(01:46:29):
then he was Garrett Cole twenty nineteen right on everybody
down right. So that's why I'm super super bullish on
this pitching staff for twenty five and obviously in twenty
six I have I have this up on your favorite site,
Fangrafts for the twenty is my favorite twenty twenty five
projections for Steamer Do you think, on top of your head,

(01:46:52):
what do you think the projections of the computers have
for estop parades, war for next year? Dude, I don't
even pay attention to stats, so I don't even know
what's a what's a good war for a regular season?
Like A four is that high? That's that's is that
high elite? That's a elite. That's a good that's a
good elite number. Okay, So for Essak perettis two point

(01:47:16):
nine four. What they haven't projected at four A line
of twenty five tanks seventy seven RBIs ops excuse me,
an average gonna be around two forty four, two fifty.
But every advanced stat has that is numbers popping. I
mean higher than jose Al two base projection of three

(01:47:37):
point eight. That has to do with the Crawford boxes
I'm assuming. Yeah, yeah, Christian Walker projection thirty two home
runs ninety five RBIs Oh yeah, you'll like this. You
like this? Ten percent uh walked percentage? Okay, great, k
percentage around twenty two percent, not too bad, not too great.
Three point one war projection Okay, same thing, same projected war.

(01:48:00):
As is, the falloff happens to the outfield. It's not
good Man yourd on five point four East Sac four
point zero. I'll two a three point eight painting at
three point two three point one, Christian Walker Diez three
point one, and then it goes to j Myers one
point four, Jacks McCormick one point one, Maresio Dubon point six.

(01:48:24):
More on these steamer projections over on Fangrafts saying all
that I am bullish on Decenzo. I think Decenzo could
be a guy that could be put in maybe left
field and learn on the fly, hopefully gets a lot
of reps in camp. He's having a great winter ball.
I think Cam Smith and that Tucker trade, and we'll
talk about the Tarker trade. I really like Cam Smith.

(01:48:45):
That is one one of four guys that watching college baseball.
I was like, that guy's a gamer, that guy's a
dude and guy. And there's a the Jack Kaglione, there's
the you know all these other studs that are being
talked about Camp. Smith's a guy of Florida State that
people don't realize. He was a top one hundred prospect

(01:49:06):
coming out of high school, didn't sign went to college.
Very very few people do that when when you're when
you're a top one hundred high school prospect, you usually
take the money right. He goes to Florida State, gets
into the College World Series, single handedly reshapes his his approach,
his his his body to a point to become a professional.

(01:49:28):
He's what six twenty five. He may be bigger than
he made outgrow third base and he could play the
corner out for a super bowlish on him. Milton is
a walking barrel. I think he is a a guy
that can hit.

Speaker 9 (01:49:41):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:49:41):
Any any guy that comes out of Oregon State, you
have to justs circle at some point. He's gonna make it,
make it.

Speaker 19 (01:49:46):
And he's in.

Speaker 1 (01:49:47):
He doesn't get hit. Look at Stephen Kwan, look at
all these guys that come out of Oregon State. They're
kind of a silent factory in the Pacific Ordwest. If
they're a year away, you can short up. And I
think that's what the plan is, to short up through
the moneyball aspect of finding the platoon splits and finding
the right guys this team can get there. You're just
gonna have to rely on pulling the right strings at

(01:50:08):
the right time. And obviously the Astros have done that
very well over the last decade. So I think Chas
McCormick is gonna bounce back. Obviously it was a down year,
so he bounces back to the positive aggression. That mean,
now there's only a kind of two question marks you're
kind of thinking about, not three.

Speaker 5 (01:50:26):
If if this is the outfield of Dubon, Chas McCormick
and Jake Myers, the Astros are throwing nobody out.

Speaker 1 (01:50:35):
The arms in that outfield. Jake Myers can go get it.

Speaker 5 (01:50:38):
Don't get me wrong, Okay, you got you know how
I feel about Jake Myers. He can go get it.
Good defensive outfielder. Couldn't it water if you fell out
of a boat. He's streak, he goes on his runs whatever.
Arm not there. Chas McCormick better hitter a little bit
worse in the outfield than Jake Myers. Arm now, and

(01:51:00):
then new Bond's mister utility can do it all. However,
arm not there, They have got to go get another
bat for this outfield.

Speaker 1 (01:51:07):
You cannot run that outfield out there. It's just not
gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (01:51:10):
And if that's the case, then you might as well
just put your on a left field and be having
to be your heavy day left fielder, which we know
is not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
Yeah, no, it's I mean, look, you don't have to
fill out the lineup card you know today on the
no December, No, you sure don't. There are some question
marks that you'd be answered. And I think this. I
think this team coming into twenty five, obviously it's going
to be different, obviously because there's not a number two

(01:51:41):
at their base and not a number thirty in right field.
And I think that's the one thing I'm frushured about
as a fan. Because we talked about the trade, right yeah,
if I think it left me wanting just a little
bit more, just give me one more and I would
have been, Okay, I am a shit. I still love
getting a guy that is going to hit thirty plus
home runs, probably Peris Hayden, who's gonna I mean he

(01:52:03):
gets up to ninety nine, has the sweep or has
this stuff. Could be like a Michael King who you're like, oh,
we're we gonna get out of them boom. So he's
a guy that's gonna get you a lot of punches
and then obviously the cam Smith, the crown jewel of
the trade. As a fan, the thing that upsets me
the most is that we were essentially robbed. Now I'm
saying of the twenty five season of Kyle Tucker because

(01:52:25):
this is a business and they made a business decision.
The last memory that we have of Kyle Tucker is
him coming back from a fractured leg. Yeah, and fighting
through it and grinding through it. That's gonna be the
last thing we got to see if Kyle Tucker. That
just I feel robbed a little bit because he was
so good for so long and he did so many

(01:52:45):
things that was like, man, we missed the last three
months because of the fractured leg, and then he fought
back to get back in time, and we just like,
what could have because he was on pace for a
eight to nine war season. And that's up to with
Won Soto, that's up there with Bobby Wood Junior. Obviously
it went to Aaron Judge because you know Saron Judge,

(01:53:07):
but yeah, that's who Kyle Tucker was, Yeah, showing he
was playing with last.

Speaker 5 (01:53:12):
Year, and the lasting memory of him in a Nastro's
uniform is him struggling in the playoffs once again, Kyle Tucker.
So we saw him have a bone bruce quote unquote,
which we figured out was a fracture in his leg,
comes back, struggles a bit, then it kind of starts
to get going, and then we get into the freaking
wild Card, which was obviously a three game series against

(01:53:33):
the Detroit Tigers team in the aj Hinch Magic, and
we saw what happened, and Kyle Tucker struggled once again,
and now he's with the Chicago Cups. So let's get
a break.

Speaker 1 (01:53:41):
We'll continue to talk about these Houston Nashals. Next right
here on the Shawn Salisbury Show from H Town.

Speaker 6 (01:53:47):
This is a.

Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
For h Town. This was this is Sports Talks seven night, because.

Speaker 18 (01:53:54):
Right now you see letton Houston.

Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
Right now, back to Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (01:54:02):
What's that about? What's what's going on there? It definitely
feels like the Red Sox, right That's why I said,
I've been saying it the whole time. He's going to
the He'll go to the Red Sox. And once Pete
Alonso gonna sign somewhere. It's interesting how the wave of

(01:54:26):
the cycle of free agency, you get the top guys
go early and then some arms fall and then there's
just like this a little yeah it's the Lol. Yeah,
that's where we are right now. I mean, you have
Alonso not signed, Bragman not sign Burns, not sign guys
that are gonna be top of line dudes for organizations.
And looks like we're gonna go into twenty twenty five

(01:54:47):
with a lot of free agents still left. What about
Uh what's the uh the picture coming over from Japan Toasaki. Yeah,
I mean once he's signing, I think they're just kind
of waiting for the Dodgers to a million dollars that
he's Since he's a he's being posted by his team.
He can only get the allocation of money for uh

(01:55:14):
the international national money, isn't the Dodgers are essentially going
to get him for pennies on the dollar. That's crazy.
So I think they'll probably just drop that news that
like right at midnight of New Year's if hopefully gets
lost in the cycle of thing that. I mean, he's
he's a Dodger till he's not in my eyes, and
I'm just ready to chalk that up of they're getting
him so apparently and this is all maybe this is

(01:55:37):
why Bregman is trending. Uh, Even with the signing of
Glabor tor As, the Tigers are still not out on
Alex Bregman.

Speaker 7 (01:55:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:55:44):
I think they're running probably quietly in the two spot
for for Reggy. You have to think the blue Jays
are probably gonna throw some money as well at him,
because it seems like the blue Jays are every conversation
for a free agent and then no one signs there.
It's just kind of crazy. Why does no one sign there?
It's weird. It's weird, And I don't mean to bring

(01:56:09):
politics or anything into this, That's not what I'm trying
to do. But do people just don't want to live
in Canada. I don't know. I don't care. Every year
the blue Jays are in on, They're in on every
big free agent name, and they never can sign anybody. Never.

Speaker 5 (01:56:21):
They're one of the most underachieving teams in the last decade.
They have talent every year and they never can figure
it out. Or in the off season they are rumored
to and link to every big free agent name and
they can never sign anybody. So I wonder why. I
don't know, I really don't. It's a it's a true,

(01:56:43):
it's a real thing.

Speaker 1 (01:56:44):
Especially on baseball Twitter, everyone has that kind of question that, yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:56:48):
I don't understand it. And then but then also you
got to look at the utilization. Just I'll just use
yuse Kakuchi for for instance, what the hell were they
doing with him not utilizing his change up? Why are
you not letting your left handed stud throw his change up?
Or why are you not calling his change up? Like
that's something? Maybe maybe it's an organizational thing, maybe it's
a development thing. Why players don't want to go there,

(01:57:09):
I don't know. I just find it very odd that
the Toronto Blue Jays are in on every big name
and they can never sign anybody like, not even close.
Remember what happened Michael Brandley reported that he was going
to go to the Blue Jays and then two minutes later, oh,
he's back with the Astros.

Speaker 19 (01:57:25):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:57:27):
And also I think the the Mets too, right, you
can't never count the Mets out anymore. With with Cohen
at the Helm, I could see Greggy being there if
they wanted to spend some more. I mean, they just
wrote a check for three quarters of billion dollars to
one Soto, So I don't know where they are on
the whole allocation of money. But yeah, it's interesting. I

(01:57:50):
think I think it's Socks and tigersh for a B
two right now. And so also it looks like who
did you do? Just say sorry? I was reading report
Red Sox and Tigers. Probably I would say one too,
so New York Post reporting that it's gonna now narrow
down between the Mets and Red Sox for Alex Bregman.

(01:58:10):
There it is. But also I don't think thet I
don't think the Tigers will be out on Alex Bregman.

Speaker 5 (01:58:15):
I would say that's that's your top three. I think
I've said it from day one. We've said it, I've
jokingly said it on our podcast, I've said it on Twitter,
I've said it on this show with Sean. He's gonna
be a Boston Red Sox and I'm sticking firm to that.
I think he's gonna go to Boston if Alex Korra
is there. He's got a connection with Mark Wahlberg, who's
a massive Boston Red Sox fan and a Boston sports fan,

(01:58:38):
and he would benefit greatly with that freaking wall and left.

Speaker 1 (01:58:42):
Field peer with the Green Monster. All you do is
you move Rothfield divers over to first base, and you
got two of the best corner guys in Major League
Baseball right there. If Alex Bregman is a Red Sox,
I think they're the favorites to win the al Eaks.
They got the pitching, they made moves, and they just
signed Walker Buehler. They got Crochet, they have Cutter Crawford,
they have Bellow, they have they have the guys to

(01:59:04):
make a run and Boston hasn't really had a chance since,
I mean, outside of winning in eighteen. Yeah, they ran
into the twenty one ashows that were held together by
the power of friendship and duct tape and bubble. Thank
you God for Jason Castro and literally I bet that
fan base is kind of itching for for them to

(01:59:26):
be back in that kind of upper tier of baseball
conversation because they were that conversation for a decade plus.
So gow that that twenty eighteen Alcs and Jackie Bradley Junior. Gosh, why.

Speaker 5 (01:59:41):
We just had Christmas was a twenty twenty one where
keyk Hernandez was scorched earth.

Speaker 1 (01:59:47):
You couldn't get him out? Yeah that was him right, Yeah,
I mean you can you can always want them. That's
always one. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:59:54):
But hey, shout out to Jason Cashrow that big pinch hit.
Uh RBI, go ahead RBI in the game. Beggave Framberg
off five? Yeah, swing game? Oh God, keep there. I
hope we uh get a good Farmer Valdez.

Speaker 1 (02:00:07):
This is coming. See hey, you know what what I
know we're going to break Uh huh what if we
get a motivated contract year framber Valdez. Oh, he's gonna
be nasty. Then he'll go nineteen and five? Is there
a we may need to uh look at the betting
lines of Alsay Young because uh a motivated Yeah, contract

(02:00:30):
year Framber Valdez. Yeah, last year in a contract the
best Framber Valdez that would be. I mean they're gonna
need it, that's for damn sure. Seven one, three, two
two five seven ninety Adrian Brandon Ogoney. Where we will

that embarrassing loss to the Ravens.

Now we're onto the Houston Astros. What the retool is
gonna look like. Let's get back out to the phone line.
Seven one three two point two five seven ninety is
the number to join. We'll start with Adrian. Adrian, appreciate
you holding me.

Speaker 7 (02:02:18):
Man.

Speaker 1 (02:02:18):
Good morning, Hey, good morning, good morning. How you doing
good man?

Speaker 2 (02:02:22):
Trying to survive this weather anyway?

Speaker 21 (02:02:26):
Uh, I know I didn't hear we're gonna depend on
Lance mccolor.

Speaker 1 (02:02:33):
You did.

Speaker 2 (02:02:33):
I know I didn't hear that statement.

Speaker 1 (02:02:35):
You sure did.

Speaker 21 (02:02:36):
Yeah, and it made me drive my split and my coffee.

Speaker 2 (02:02:39):
So let's redrawing right now.

Speaker 21 (02:02:41):
There is no way you can honestly tell me this
team is gonna depend on somebody we've been paying.

Speaker 2 (02:02:50):
To do ATV commercials.

Speaker 21 (02:02:53):
That's about as good as he's gonna get as far
as baseball is concerned. Anybody forget the last time we
saw Lamb.

Speaker 1 (02:03:01):
Yeah, he got sheld. Yeah, he got shelled in the
World Series against Phillies. Yeah.

Speaker 21 (02:03:06):
And every time he comes back, he goes back down.

Speaker 2 (02:03:08):
So why are we depending on him again?

Speaker 5 (02:03:12):
That's my whole Yeah, Major, I don't think we're we
We said he we would depend on him, but we're
hoping that he's healthy and he can bolster the rotation.

Speaker 2 (02:03:24):
Oh man, that's right.

Speaker 21 (02:03:27):
Well, you know what they say with hope hope in
one Hen and the other, and we'll see which one
fills up first. If it wasn't for Land soaking up
that money, we'd probably still have a third basement that
wouldn't be concerned about happening in the league. That's my
point on Land's mccolors. It's just wasted money, wasted money,
wasted money.

Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Everybody else that's hurt.

Speaker 21 (02:03:49):
I'm even worried about Rodriguez coming back because they took
his rock away with this clock and we saw how
that affected him. So yeah, we need another on for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:04:00):
I agree with you.

Speaker 21 (02:04:01):
We definitely need somebody in the outfield. I'm praying to
God we don't come back with the outpeel we got
because hey, there's a man on base, hit it to
anybody in the outfield, he can walk home. Other than that,
have a good weekend, so on.

Speaker 2 (02:04:19):
I can't wait till you.

Speaker 21 (02:04:19):
Get back to him about this game for Christmas. The
rest of y'all, y'all already know.

Speaker 1 (02:04:25):
Appreciate Chandrian talking about Luis Garcia. Yes, but also I
think the Ashes are a different spot than year's pass
of depending on the comeback of lanspeklos Junr. He slides
in he's not the topic guy, or he's not He's
not going to be dependent on as the guy, the
guy right and time, and I think that's where a

(02:04:46):
lot of frustrations were, right, the money, the injuries, and
him being that front end guy. When he comes back,
he's he's slaughing that fore spot, right, don't think so
that three four spots so a little different from years past,
but still frustrations are are valid. Yeah, yeah, you paid
him a pretty good salary, pretty good contract, and he

(02:05:06):
unfortunately has not been healthy. So that's just the hard, cold,
hard facts of it. Also, before we get to Brandon,
you know Bregman trending more and more. A lot of
fans think he's gonna sign with the Yankees. It's funny
on the internet. Please don't go to the You know
what's funny on the internet. There's there's a guy or

(02:05:27):
number two for the Houston as that was constantly by
MLB Twitter constantly just called names, oh yeah, all of
the oh yeah, all that yeah. A bang here posted
that picture of him apologizing at spring training. It's funny
when said player players no longer have the Orange team

(02:05:51):
bad NFL uniform on anymore.

Speaker 7 (02:05:56):
We will do we you know what, We'll build a
We'll build a bridge for you.

Speaker 15 (02:06:02):
In the world.

Speaker 1 (02:06:04):
Are so back? Yeah, they're back. Don't let us pull
up the Twitter. Don't let's get out of here. Dude,
do you remember being in Uh we were in in
Denver for a Rockies Astros two game series when it
was snowing. Yeah, and there was there were Rockies fans
sitting in front of us booing Alex Bregman, booing the

(02:06:25):
hell Shooter. I forgot is that toy said? We played
the Rockies in the ale Walkert No, I don't know. Oh,
we played them in the Division Series. No, oh it was.
It was a championship series. No, no, no, no, the
World Series. No, Rockies havent been in the World Series
in years. Colorado. You, I mean, yeah, what do we doing? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:06:45):
But I guarantee you if the Rockies got some balls
and some money, they would sign Alex Bregman.

Speaker 1 (02:06:49):
You know that fan base. Yes, now we can make
a run at the Dodgers. It's funny, funny how that works. Huh.
It's funny how every uh Eastern Astro all of a
sudden they become free agentsy. You know what. The other
the what I'm really tired of the fan made videos
of of like oh we need this guy, and it's
I've seen this by Yankee fans trying to go trade

(02:07:11):
for Korea.

Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
Yeah, we have.

Speaker 1 (02:07:15):
Yankee you guys doing fan videos and video And the
even better part is when they do the jersey swap.
Look good.

Speaker 5 (02:07:24):
He would look good in a Dodger blue what dude?
You guys ran ran with this whole. Joe Kelly would
beat the breaks off of Carlscrail. Yeah, beat him, beat
up that cheater. Oh yeah, okay, do a mural and
all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (02:07:37):
But you were making fan fiction videos of of of
our former Houston Asher players now and those you get
out of, dude, And you know what, I would have
more respect if you carry the same energy that you've
been carrying. The switch up is where I'm just laugh
at y. So it is so the Internet. It's so typical.
It's so predictable. Yeah. Sure, I would rather you hate

(02:07:58):
someone and then be like, okay, stands man, stand for something.
Is that what they say? Business? Yes? Business? Yeah, we
standing on business because stand on it. Yeah, stand on it.
If you if you hate Alex Bregman because he quote
unquote cheat, well allegedly cheated, then stand on it. Yeah, don't.
But I don't need these these fan videos and and

(02:08:19):
cap cut videos on TikTok movie. You want him on
your team? Yeah, man, yeah yeah, Look check it out
right on Q Jersey Swap. It's unbelievable. Alex Bregman in
a Yankee jersey and hat clean shaved. That clean shaved
rule is stupid. By the way, Hey, you know what
I think they I hope they keep it because Garrett

(02:08:42):
Cole isn't the guess. I don't know if it was
in that beard. Man, you get what was in the flow?

Speaker 14 (02:08:51):
You don't.

Speaker 5 (02:08:51):
You get Garrett called a beard and some long hair
and some and he's gonna strike out a billion.

Speaker 1 (02:08:58):
Yeah you know what, bring back some atack. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:09:01):
Put the Goldilocks balls in back into play and let
the guys, you know, drink a little LHGH or something,
you know, a little See what happens a little little
greenies into the coffee?

Speaker 1 (02:09:10):
Yeah? Why not?

Speaker 14 (02:09:10):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (02:09:11):
I mean, you know, see what really pops off? I
don't know. Seven one, three, two, two, five seven nights
talk to Brandon before we go to break Brandon, good morning,
Good morning, Brian. What's happening?

Speaker 3 (02:09:21):
I'm doing?

Speaker 5 (02:09:23):

first when they play against tonight?

Speaker 1 (02:09:27):

Speaker 12 (02:09:28):

Speaker 12 (02:10:20):
M hm.

Speaker 1 (02:10:22):
Did the switch up?

Speaker 14 (02:10:23):
Man?

Speaker 1 (02:10:23):
I'm seeing more, more and more of it. It's funny
labor Tore is to the Tigers. No way, Bregman goes
to the to the Yankees, right mm hmmm, Well man,
get the bag. Get the bag. Always get the bag.

(02:10:45):
Always go get your money. But that hurt, But get
the bag, get the bag.

Speaker 2 (02:10:51):
You know what.

Speaker 5 (02:10:51):
I'm fine with him going and said, look, if he's
not going to come back to the Astros, just don't
go to the I know he's not going to go
to the Dodgers, but don't go to the Dodgers and
go to the Yankees. Go with everybody else. I don't care,
I don't care. Just don't go to the Yankees.

Speaker 1 (02:11:07):
There's no way, no way unless they make him some
kind of crazy offer.

Speaker 5 (02:11:14):
If they sent if they if they offered two hundred,
he's going to be in pinstripes. Except I don't honestly,
I don't think he's gonna get more than twenty seven
a year, whatever that looks like, unless it's for five
years and whatever that math is.

Speaker 1 (02:11:28):
Get the bag. Yeah, man, they'll get the money.

Speaker 7 (02:11:31):
Get the bag.

Speaker 1 (02:11:32):
Go get the money, or you know, or just come
back here and and uh, you know, sign that six
for one fifty six. You know, well, uh, you're gonna
get everyone Easton worked up. Look, man, everyone worked up.
We'll we'll build build your house for your horses. You know,
we can run some horse horse races down to the
horse track, Craig Carles our way way, you know, we'll
we'll be out. Yeah. It's crazy that we're having a

(02:11:56):
conversation on uh franchise former franchise based on the franchise
players and talking about the outfilm and how are you
gonna fix that? There is there is this guy that
is a free agent next year. I don't know money's
you know, off the books and uh is his name?
Kyle Tucker? No, this guy is. No, it's a guy

(02:12:20):
that can win the Silver Slugger, can get you MVP votes,
can get your Gold Glove, Yeah, can swipe you thirty bags,
thirty home runs, yes, Kyle Tucker. No, no, no, it's just no.
But he's a free agent next year, next year. Yeah, yeah,
Kyle Tucker, Skyle, Sorry, I didn't see his I didn't
see you see his name. He will be a free
agent after this year. That would be the greatest greatest

(02:12:43):
play ever by Data Brown. They trade him, it's not happening. Hey,
look you're gonna give me. You're giving everyone false hope
with the Bregman readion. I want to give everyone false
hope that he's gonna his contract year. He's gonna go
to eighty five, five thirty six bombs, thirty two stolen bags,

(02:13:05):
and then he's gonna gold Glove. He's gonna have an
ops of like eight eighty and he's gonna command like
four hundred million dollars we talked about off air. Does
he not feel like the perfect Baltimore Org. Yeah, he's
a perfect fit the way that we talked about it. Yeah,
he's a perfect fit for that Batimore, the perfect Baltimore Org. Yeah,
and they would probably spend yeah. Yeah, all right, we've

(02:13:28):
we've talked a lot of astros. Let's look at some
college football bowl games. TA can early look at the
college football playoffs as well. That's next right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety talking about college football. You got
five bowl games today, you got more tomorrow, and then
more on Sunday. And of course you got the NFL
regular season winding down a couple games tomorrow and then
more on Sunday. So if you have an NFL watch party,

(02:13:49):
a college football watch party, or if you're going to a
holiday party for New Year's Eve, make sure you bring
some Daisy Dips by Daisy Sour Kream for that party.
Or if you're hosting a party, make sure you have
it for your guests. Daisy Sour Cream launched French onion
and ranch sour cream dips. I love the dips and
these new dips from Daisy Sour Creamer are a game changer.
They taste just as good as if they were homemade.
They were made with Daisy Sour cream, real herbs and spices,

(02:14:12):
and the new dips from Daisy Sour Cream are made
with ingredients you can find your kitchen nothing more. Get
over your local grocery store and pick up a couple
of these new French onion and ranch dips and pair
them with your favorite chips, wings, vegetables, or other foods.
I had some of the Daisy dips on Christmas. I
had the French onion and I had it with some
vegetables and man, it is so damn good. You will
not go wrong by going over to your local grocery

(02:14:34):
store and picking up some of the new French onion
and ranch dips from Daisy Sour Cream. The Daisy dips,
so get over there, grab some of them from your
holiday party, for your watch party, or if you're just
munching it on some chips at the house. It's all
right there, good flavor, good ingredients, and it's with the
Daisy dips from Daisy Sour Cream.

Speaker 2 (02:14:55):
The Jean Salisbury Show continues.

Speaker 5 (02:14:58):
Four decades of covering the Houston Rockets. He tweeted out, quote, well,
I guess this is happening. Today is my last day
at the Houston Chronicle. I'm hanging them up.

Speaker 1 (02:15:08):
Way too many people to think to fit on or
to fit here or in today's column. I'm so grateful
for all these years covering the Rockets for my mentor's
peers and especially readers. End quote forty years of covering
the Rockets. That is an insane run. Congratulates with the
Jonathan Fagan. If he's retiring, whatever he's gonna do, good
luck on his future endeavors. Always posting really really good

(02:15:33):
work at the Houston Chronicle. Last day for Jonathan Fagan.
Man a true pros pro. Yeah, no doubt man, forty
years man. So talking to we talked to Texans, we
talked to Astros. College football. You're gonna watch some of
these bowl games today. You can't There's one thing in

(02:15:54):
this life you can't take from me in these ball games.
Maybe you can't. And there's been some good ones. Man,
that four overtime thriller. Yesterday we got the Pop Tart Bowl.
This what Saturday, So you had so here here, here
we go.

Speaker 5 (02:16:07):
So on Monday the twenty third, you had Northern Illinois
taken down Fresno State in the famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
That was two overtimes. Then on Christmas Eve it was
South Florida taking down San Jose State in the Hawaii Bowl.
That was five overtimes. And then yesterday you had Toledo

(02:16:31):
beating pitt in a six overtime game.

Speaker 1 (02:16:35):
And actually all the games yesterday were close. Kansas State
won forty four to forty one over Rutgers, and you
had Arkansas State taking down Bowling Green in thirty eight
thirty one. They've all been pretty good every every game,
but the first opening round of the college football playoffs. Yeah,
that's been good. And look, I'm not gonna complain because
in March and April, May and the summer, I'm just

(02:16:57):
gonna be like, oh, I wish cool football on I
wisch college footballs. That's got to be in these let's
talk about the sports. A year that's the most brutal time.
To me, it sucks. Yeah, it's brutal, man. You know what,
I think the worst week is the All Star break
MLBA nothing, NOCA Hockey's done, terrible, basketball is done. Baseball
is the only thing kind of on your You have

(02:17:19):
your mini camps and everything own football nothing really, you
teenth right, you get some It sucks, man, that that
is the drought. I I feel like you get burnt
out on baseball pretty quick. I want to say say
pretty quick, but you get burnt out on it by honestly,
probably like June. Then you get a little bit of
a kick for excitement for the All Star Game. Then

(02:17:40):
the trade deadline rumors start. But then you hit that
loll in August, right, you hit the loll in August.
But then you start to think, man, playoffs are right
around the corner. September call ups, then playoffs, and then
you're like, thank god the NFL and college football is back.
But then before you know it, it's December twenty seventh

(02:18:01):
and football is damn near over. Yeah. Yeah, like the
cycle in the sports year is crazy to think about.
You got two weeks left in the NFL, You got
this weekend and next then the playoffs start.

Speaker 5 (02:18:12):
Then it'll be Super Bowl. Then that means spring training
is starting, then Opening Day, and then before we know it,
you will we will literally be in June and then.

Speaker 1 (02:18:22):
The dog days of summer. Like it's this, it's so quick.
I don't know if that's maybe because we're getting older,
or if that's just you know, you're so hyper focused
on sports that they just fly by. I mean, damn, dude,
We're we're we are literally about to be in twenty
twenty five, which means pitchers and catchers are gonna report
from Ajor League Baseball within a month, and the Bowl

(02:18:44):
games are winding down like winding down quick fasten in
a hurry. Oh that's why I'm enjoy it. We got
what five games to day five today Oklahoma Navy, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt,
Texas Tech, Arkansas, Syracuse, Washing Syracuse, Washington State, and then
you in Texas, A and M. And even then right
the Syracuse Washington State seven pm Primetime Fox. That over

(02:19:05):
unders fifty nine and a half. Take the over, baby,
let's get points. Let's let's see that football.

Speaker 12 (02:19:09):
Go.

Speaker 1 (02:19:10):
Syracuse offense is one of the best country. Yeah, yeah,
you got Tech, Arkansas, who's gonna they're gonna tote the rock,
They're gonna run the ball. Look, I'm gonna enjoy this.
I'm gonna enjoy these games.

Speaker 5 (02:19:22):
The best game is probably gonna be Georgia Tech versus Vanderbilt.
Jordian Tech's gritty as hell, and then Vanderbilt's you know,
they've they're find a way.

Speaker 1 (02:19:30):
They've had a really good year. This is also what
I'm saying. Texas A and M getting a nine to
thirty start time. Yeah, well look I know me and
me and Texas A and M don't see I I
you know, we always go back and forth. Uh huh.
But to give them a nine thirty star time, yeah,
come on, Yeah, good game though us. Yeah Texam, I'll

(02:19:51):
take Texas and the album. Taking Texas A and M
one as well takes Sam big. But I mean you
look at uh, like, like I said, Georgia Tech, gritty team.

Speaker 5 (02:19:58):
They let's see open up the season.

Speaker 1 (02:20:03):
They opened up a season.

Speaker 5 (02:20:05):
Yeah, okay, so their their final law. That's okay, I'm
looking at it backwards. Their final game of the regular season,
they lost forty four to forty two to Georgia should
have won that ball game. They had a big win
over Miami. They kind of got boat raced by Notre Dame. Well,
but some of their losses thirty one nineteen loss.

Speaker 1 (02:20:23):
To Louisville, who's ranked, and then of course they beat
Florida State that was over in Ireland to open up
the season. Haynes King former East and yeah, I mean
them taking down Miami got Miami out of the playoffs. Yeah,
so I mean give me football, just keep giving me
football all the way, all the way town Miami was
number four at that time. Yeah, single handedly got them

(02:20:46):
out of the playoffs single handedly. And then who are
they playing? Well Bowl? Were they in the prestigious Birminghamball Miami? No,
Birmingham Ball has already happened. Oh Jeordia Tac Vanderbilt is
the Birminghamble Miami on Miami? Aren't they in the uh
there Popped Hearts Bowl tomorrow? Yeah tomorrow in Orlando? Heowa

(02:21:06):
State Waitch talk about the best marketing ever. I mean
they literally had a mascot that went into a toaster
and then an actual pop tart, five size pop art.
It was very like Lord of the Flies. Yeah, it was.
It was awesome. Another another good one that's gonna be
uh tomorrow, b y U Colorado. Oh yeah, that's the

(02:21:27):
Alamo Bowl. Can can I say something? Yeah? Yeah? Man,
look go ahead, run radio, Dion. No one's listening, Dion Dion.
Heye right, everyone has jumped on the Deon hay all
that he he got this team H two, nine and three, uh,
top of the tier big twelve team in the al

(02:21:49):
Did you see the video that uh number one other
player uh on their roster stud stud receiver as that's
started the w camon right now. Anyways, he had trouble
with grades, trouble with grades. They he took his number away.
He was like, hey, oh yeah, right, go get right
in the classroom. It doesn't matter what you're in the field.

(02:22:09):
Kid gets his g P A g P A up
gets a's and b's gave them a bat. That's cool.
That's it's the little things, right. I like the little things.
And and he's got Colorado rolling. That game is gonna
be I think pretty damn fun by you, Colorado and
good old San Antonio Sexes.

Speaker 5 (02:22:28):
Who's who was the was Webster Westbrook or Western Lejohnte Western, Yes, yeah,
senior receiver.

Speaker 1 (02:22:39):
Little things. The little things also Sanders and and and
Hunter don't have to play this game. They are. I
think that's that's pretty sweet that they sat there and
Deon said it, and the and the and the guy
said it to like, Hey, we're gonna play this game
all the way through. Gave an insurance policy. You have
to do that. Yeah, but that's cool in a in

(02:22:59):
a age where it's very easy for players opt out. Oh,
the star players opt out to see as refreshing to
me and I hope they have a good, clean game
and then you know, start prepping for the draft and
everything that comes with that. But you get to see
the Heisman Trophy winner actually plays Bowl game. The Miami
basketball coach retired, I know, Lara Larranaga, Jim Larranaga. He

(02:23:27):
retired from Miami mid season. And you know why transfer
portal and I l he said when they made it
to the final four, eight of his players said, coach,
I'm entering the transfer portal. And they were in the
final four a couple of years ago. That was here
in Houston. Miami beat you of H that year Texas
that year too.

Speaker 5 (02:23:43):
Yeah, that was that was yeah, because we were setting
up for U of H versus Texas to play here
in Houston.

Speaker 1 (02:23:50):
Yep, that would have been insane over at NRG. That's
another thing.

Speaker 5 (02:23:55):
We got to stop playing basketball games at big football stadium.
So that's I know it's a completely different question or
a different uh conversation, but we got to stop that.

Speaker 1 (02:24:02):
I hate it. I don't like it. Not a fan,
not a fan. Either give me, send him over to
Toyota Center or give them a home game. Screw it,
like the like this prescedures, and it does.

Speaker 2 (02:24:13):
Why not?

Speaker 14 (02:24:14):
You know?

Speaker 1 (02:24:15):
Why not? Know it's never gonna happen. It's all about
the dollar bills. Let's get the break.

Speaker 5 (02:24:18):
We'll continue talking about some college football. Also, we got
to get back to these Houston Texans next on Sports
Talk seven to eighty. But the Shawn Salisbury Show continued
start on Monday. I guess we'll go back to regular music.
I don't know what to do with ourselves, man. I
don't know what to do either yet.

Speaker 1 (02:24:37):
Man, I'll tell you what though, shooter, shoot shooter on
hundred percent of the shots you don't take.

Speaker 5 (02:24:43):
Boys, remember that Twitter is a cesspool, okay, oh man?

Speaker 1 (02:24:49):
Twitter is an absolute man shooter, shoot baby shooter, shoot
shot on goal. Michael and Buck run the damn ball,
it's crazy. Oh my goodness, wow talking some college football.

(02:25:10):
Let's look at the and again. I know we're gonna
talk way more about it, but since A. Paulo Days
is sitting in.

Speaker 5 (02:25:15):
With us today, I want to get his take because
he's a massive University of Texas fan.

Speaker 1 (02:25:19):
There.

Speaker 5 (02:25:20):
It is Texas Arizona State playing on New Year's Dave
noon kickoff over at the Peach Bowl.

Speaker 1 (02:25:27):
Texas favored by thirteen. If they win, they go and
play in the Cotton Bowl Classic up in Dallas, and
they would take on the winner of Ohio State and Oregon.
So when I look at there's two, four, six, eight
teams left. When I look at the teams that I
think have a legit shot of making it through this

(02:25:47):
entire bracket, the way that Texas's defense plays, the way
that Oregon's offense is Ohio State, They've got the talent
to win it all on the both sides. And the
payroll and the payroll, I just don't know if Ryan
Day can be able to get it done.

Speaker 5 (02:26:07):
He hasn't yet. Okay, Penn State, they're physical, man. If
they and if they, I mean look, they boat raced
the hell out of SMU Boise State. Are they gonna
be able to stop genty That's a big question mark.
And then I look down at Notre Dame in Georgia.
George is gonna be playing with their backup quarterback. They
might have some juice under that kid Notre Dame. I
still I don't care how good Notre Dame looked against Indiana,

(02:26:28):
even though they really didn't look that good. I think
Notre Dame's overrated. Every single year. I think it's Oregon,
Ohio State in Texas. I think those are the three
favorites in my opinion, and they're gonna have to play
each other to get to the championship game.

Speaker 1 (02:26:42):
Yeah, so I think the best draw has been And
then we talked about there's gonna be changes made this
you had you have to figure that out right the
but being a Texas fan or a Penn State fan,
you probably got the draw you wanted, right, stayed at
home against s some you and then Boise Texas at
home against Clemson which Clempson played and you knew that

(02:27:05):
was how the boys played. That is best and Cade
Klubineku from Austin and all the ties there, right, they
played them tough and then having the Arizona State draw
those probably two when you when you look through it,
you're like, okay, we'll take that in the second round. Yeah,
because Ohio State Oregon two point zero is gonna be
a battle. Yeah, Notre Dame George is gonna be a
battle because Carson Beck's out for the playoff. Yeah, with

(02:27:27):
the with Tommy Georgia Tech starting to Dominia Cutch up.
But I feel like I didn't give enough credits to Georgia.
Georgia's defense is really good. They're very, very physical. I
just don't know what the backup quarterback is going to
look like. True, and I think Notre Dame could be
boring enough to maybe have them an upset alert just
because of that. They can they can all right, first
one or twenty one wins. Yeah. Saying all that, that

(02:27:52):
Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Arizona State side of the bracket
seems like the national champion winners. And to come out
that that bragget's nash and that's that's all. Arizona State,
probably out of all the teams, is probably playing the
best football. Yeah, they are really good. And look they
got Scatibo who toasts the rock oh yeah, sixteen hundred

(02:28:13):
rushing yards. I don't know how many receiving this kind
of a McCaffrey type guy. I think maybe the layoff
hurt them because they were rolling so so much. And
I think the last time they played was obviously the
Big Coole Championship game, which was almost a month ago
from when they played, so I don't know the long layoff.
The first time in this is you know, the bright lights.

(02:28:34):
I will say this Billingham and the boys. It kind
of what we talked about earlier. Is it better to
have individual stars or a team collective moving together as one? Yeah,
And I think that's kind of what you have with
Arizona State because they are rolling, I mean dead lasts
to be in the Big twelve, win the Big Twelve,

(02:28:56):
playing some damn good football down the stretch, probably, like
you said, the best ball in the country down the stretch.
Now the lights are on New Year's Day into a
Texas defense that is really good, and I keep, I
keep waiting, And I knew there was gonna be a
point during this Texas run this year that the defense

(02:29:18):
would be mortal. And they work, it's climpsing. It's still
was not good enough to beat them even on their
probably worst day of the year, because I mean, the
two Georgia losses of the defense was great. It was
it was about Quinn and Sark and the red zone offense. Right,
So on a day they were mortal, it still wasn't

(02:29:38):
good enough. And so with the athletes you have, you
have studs at on the defensive line, linebacker in the secondary,
it's tough, and they they find a way to just
kind of suffocate you in a way that Okay, we're
gonna run the ball, Okay, we'll we'll stack the box.
O hey, where to pass, Okay, we'll drop in the cover.
They just kind of have everything. And so the the

(02:30:00):
thing that we'll get Texas in trouble is if the
red zone struggles happened again, if Quinn kind of reverts
back to the Quinn we saw in the October November months.
But if Texas is running the ball, which we saw
against Clemson, what she saw against Texas A and M,
what she saw against every other school outside of Georgia.
If Texas running the ball, Quinn only has to throw

(02:30:21):
the ball twenty two times, and then you get him
twenty two design throws he's gonna hit on seventeen of those.
They're probably gonna be chunk plays. All of a sudden,
at that point, he becomes a game manager. All you
have to do is drive the bus for three more weeks.
That's all you have to do, because you have an
elite defense, and that can win you something you've been
looking for for twenty plus years now. Arizona State, on

(02:30:43):
the other side, they have nothing to lose. They're playing.
They're played loose house money, man house money. Everyone's picking Texas.
I mean, I like the coach gets it. He's young,
he's the team believes, so they're gonna be playing loose.
In theory now saying all that, I still have taxes,
I don't know if I'm taking the points. I still
have Texas winning that game. But man, you gotta feel

(02:31:07):
Penn State and text fans are like the draw that
we got. Yeah they got even even though on paper
at least, Yeah, this is what you chose. Yeah we'll
see Yeah, yeah, I think Penn State by a favored
by eleven. Excuse me, I'm really excited to watch that game.
I'm a massive Ashton gent Z fan. I want to
see if Bois State can live up in the bright lights. Man.

Speaker 5 (02:31:29):
See how that quarterback plays for for Boise State. He
doesn't really have to do much. But now you're playing
against a Penn State team that's really good.

Speaker 1 (02:31:35):
They played big boy football season long, so we'll see
how that one goes. I can't wait for those games.
I wish they were this weekend and not. Yeah, it
feels like we're just waiting. Yeah, man, I just did.

Speaker 5 (02:31:44):
I get why they're doing it on New Year's even
on New Year's Day, But come on, man, I'm just
ready for these for these college football games. Let's get
to the final segment next right here on Sports Talk.

Speaker 4 (02:31:53):
Seven to eighty change your loofah Sponge monthly.

Speaker 2 (02:31:57):
Great and right now listen to or Sewn Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (02:32:01):
That's your job, man, Don't you get paid for him?

Speaker 20 (02:32:03):
Pro tip from Houston's official Listen while scrubbing your butt
morning sports show.

Speaker 1 (02:32:12):
Cowboys are shutting down Ceedee Lamb for the rest of
the season. Talked to some Texans astros college football. Excuse me.

Speaker 5 (02:32:22):
With the Texans man, what an ugly, ugly game against
the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (02:32:29):
I'm interested to see. Excuse me, Dez, I'm interested to
see if any of the core starters play against the
Tennessee Titans in what ten days or so? So I
don't I don't think they will. Yeah, I would shut
it down. Maybe a series, yeah, maybe treat like a
preseason game. Yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't risk any of it.

(02:32:52):
So we'll have to see. Well, we'll talk more Texans
next week, especially with Sean getting back. I wonder what
his thoughts are on that ugly ass game, and then
obviously the colle FOTBA playoffs for next to next week.
What Tuesday is?

Speaker 5 (02:33:04):
Tuesday's New Year's Eve and then Wednesday Newyear's Day, so
we'll be off on New Year's Day to watch all
those big games. You've got Texas and Arizona State, You've
got Ohio State in Oregon, you have a Notre Dame
in Georgia, and then Penn State and Boise State are
on New Year's Eve at US sixth are a.

Speaker 1 (02:33:21):
You're gonna You're gonna go to Atlanta. I'm looking at flights. Okay,
it's a fifty bucks to get in for the Peach Bowl.
Get in price right now, see where the the pricing falls.
It's not bad, man, not bad. It's got a an
allocate of that to the hotel and flights, so we
actually drove. We drove for the SEC Chimps game. Me pops,

(02:33:41):
uh huh, Hall it's a Hall long a wear Atlanta. Yeah,
that sucks. What is it like twelve ours? It was
like it was like fourteen after stops and stops them all.
But looking at flights, we'll see, we'll see what happens.
If not, be a fan, watch the game and hopefully
they can get to Simmison to jayror world. So excited

(02:34:04):
just about the other college football games today. I mean,
you gotta think as Texa and M playing USC tonight.
I have tex Am big. Yeah. USC just seems like
a house of cards waiting to collapse with Lincoln Riley,
you got Oklahoma Navy. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:34:22):
Do you ever wish so obviously you played baseball university
used to Victoria. I played at sol Ros States or smaller,
smaller college baseball guys, do you ever wish that you.

Speaker 1 (02:34:30):
Would have just gone to be a student at a
big university. I think about this all the time because,
like I, sol Raw State is now Division two, right,
so I still root for my alumni, but they're not
going to bowl games. They're not getting all this pub
like these big schools. So part of me always thinks,
like I wonder would have been like if I would
have gone to I really liked TCU coming out of
high school.

Speaker 5 (02:34:49):
I was, I was, uh, what's it called magna cum
lade coming out of high school?

Speaker 1 (02:34:53):
So probam sorry cum Latte. So I could have gotten
into any university in Texas with my grades. And I
really looked at TCU because they had good journalism.

Speaker 5 (02:35:01):
So I always wonder what had been like if I
would have gone to like TCU or even I didn't
really look at Texas or Texas saying then, but let's
just say I went to one of those schools. I
always wonder what it would be like if I was
just a student. See I was, I.

Speaker 1 (02:35:12):
Was a good baseball player. I wasn't a good student. Yeah,
I just happen to be a good student because I
was a good baseball player. You know, yeah, yeah, you
know what I mean, you to be a good student.
But it was just a student, you know, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:35:25):
But.

Speaker 1 (02:35:28):
School come here to play school.

Speaker 5 (02:35:30):
I just think, like tonight, man, like if I if
I was an a and m alum, my ass would
be in Vegas.

Speaker 1 (02:35:35):
Oh, I mean, you.

Speaker 5 (02:35:36):
Know, to play USC and get to go to Vegas.
Come on, man, come on, yeah, I would, I'd be
there right before New Year's Yeah. And I didn't really
grow up like rooting for a college football team like
so I didn't.

Speaker 1 (02:35:47):
I mean, you of aged. I liked you have H
just because it was right here in the city, but
not enough to be like, man, I want to go
to a damn bowl game, you know, in Vegas obviously,
and if Sol Rosstate ever, you know, figured if D
two ever puts bowl games together, like wherever they play,
I think they need to get the uh Brian limit.
And I l you get that going right, you get
you get some all right?

Speaker 13 (02:36:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:36:06):
Yeah? As an alumn alumni.

Speaker 5 (02:36:08):
You know you want me to start the n IL
like or you want me to dump money into it,
because I ain't dumping the damn thing into it.

Speaker 1 (02:36:13):
Think about it. You could be you could be the
McConaughey of.

Speaker 5 (02:36:17):
Paul Media of you know, make that a little in IL,
and be the mat.

Speaker 1 (02:36:23):
The McConaughey of on running out with the team. I
feel no, absolutely not, No, I'm not about it a
little bit. No, No, Matthew McConaughey is is uber famous.
I'm not, but you could do that. You could be
that for I'm just shooting. I just want to be
on the Wall of Honor, the whole thing. Let's get
the numbers retired, let's get that. I want to be

(02:36:45):
on that distinguished alumni is what I'm shooting for. Man, Well,
I was always dead. Appreciate you coming in. I know
it's an early wake up call for you.

Speaker 3 (02:36:51):
Man.

Speaker 1 (02:36:52):

Tripoli absolutely as always. Man, Thank you guys. Let me
just say, I'm super proud of you everything here. Man
appreciate it, man, thank you for having me on. Yeah, Man,

Speaker 5 (02:37:04):

so you just got to wake up a little bit
earlier early.

Speaker 1 (02:37:09):
