Speaker 2 (00:37):
Good morning, yeah baby, morning, good morning, good morning, yeah baby.
That Austin Powers guess galore as if you had to ask,
that was Austin Powers. I mean you thought it was him,
and you thought it was Austin Piers himself. I thought
Mike Myers was here. Mike Myers and not to be
confused with Mike Myers who wears a mask, right, you
know that Mike Myers. Yeah, name the show you're and
(00:59):
you've never seen it?
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Halloween? You've never seen it? Is that Halloween?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Yeah, that's the crazy thing to start at six oh
one thirty. Do you realize you know who Mike Myers
is and you've never watched one of the all time
classic Halloween movies, hence the name Halloween.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
You've never seen it? No yet.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
You know who Mike Myers is. You know who Jason
Voorhe's on? You won't watch him.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Have you ever heard Edwards scissors hands?
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:22):
I have, and you're pathetic. Oh well early early, I
did even get to six o to someone felt personal.
It was personal. I'm offended that you haven't seen Halloween.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
That's all right, it's okay, man.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah you went and watched what'd you watch last night?
Speaker 4 (01:36):
In raps? How many time you seen it? Probably forty? Okay?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
So is there a chance you might mix in another
classic somewhere? Just just a chance, and Halloween's a classic.
I'll probably mix in like Forrest Gump. I think you're scared, man,
I think there might be some bitch in you. I'm
not sure, is that true? Yeah, It's not like me
to I come out. I'm throwing bullets right off the
I although named Happy Gilmore. Okay, have you seen even
(02:01):
watched bench Warms? Have you seen?
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Well?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I mean you'll know in bench Worms when you see
a best supporting actor in a comedy role snubbed, snub
what happened? I mean, you know, I started to think
about guys who've been snubbed.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Over the years.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, you know, you can give Denzel the award every year.
You got Sandler in uh uncut gems, Salisbury and benchwarmers.
I mean when you start to think about the greats
and you know, those of us in the industry, right, yeah,
you start to look around and you think, I mean,
(02:35):
what's what's worse trading Dantas for Doncic for Anthony Davis?
Are snubbing me for Best Supporting Actor in a comedy role.
Probably you getting snubbed, I mean best supporting.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
I stepped out.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I stepped out of my you know, I play played
an angry gay man coach in the movie.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
I mean tremendous.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Some would say I didn't have to act, yeah yeah, yeah,
just kind of like Jerry Jones in Land Man. Yeah,
I mean just kind of to shed a tear. Oh,
I mean yeah I had to. I don't ever want
to be just.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Considered a character actor, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Just but but I sometimes you just fall into a role.
I mean those of us in the in the industry. Okay,
sometimes you turn down scripts, right, Sometimes they just don't
fit with whether the family life. Some says they don't
fit with your values and the things you want. Yeah,
and then sometimes that just I mean, you see a
script and you'll read the first paree and it it
(03:30):
jumps out at you like like Vinnie Chasing, and you're
going through. Yeah, you're going through scripts on your desk.
The agent keeps sending until you like, that's the role
for me, Sean, what's role the angry gay man? Okay,
that's me? Well why Sean? Well, I don't really.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Have to do much.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
People are saying it's gay, he's not. But it doesn't
matter either way, right, I mean, you still haven't me
to say even if I was so. But let's not
bury the lead. No, you've still never seen Halloween. Hey, listen,
we'll catch you back in October. M that's what eight
months away. Business. Hold on real quick. I heard George
(04:08):
Strait's gonna host to be ET Awards next year. Yeah, well,
I know what. He's got a chance that winning Hip
Hop Artists of the Year. Could you imagine if he
came out and started moonwalking like Michael Jackson and and
and one Pop Artist of the Year next year at
the Grammars And he did it.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
He did it with this with this Justin's on. You
realize I've never seen that, dude like dance, George Straight.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Listen, dude, when you're the coolest bastard on the planet,
you don't have to do anything else. You sit in
a chair or stand up. You don't even have to
move in a circle. You look into the mic, you
put it really close to your mouth. You're used to that,
and you sing away. Okay, Literally, you've never seen him dance?
Oh does he have to? No tough to move around?
(04:57):
And Lee Jean's dog knows how Lee's are they? It
can't be leaves. There got to be this. How is
it that George Straight doesn't have a gene? That's a
good point. Brett Farv's got wranglers? How does how is
it that George Straight doesn't have the George Straight Jean
brought to you by Levi's or brought to you by
by you know, it wouldn't be Levi's a country you know. Whoever,
whether it's Lee Jeans or what's the other one, everybody
(05:19):
wears wranglers. Yeah, how is it that George Straight doesn't
have a brand of gene? After all this here I am,
I'm like his marketing agent. Yeah, you know, he doesn't
have his own brand.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Nothing. Wait, no he does. He does a boot Wrangler
George Straight collection, So he does have it.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
He does.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, I'll be damned. And it's it's not you're talking
about it. It's jeans.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Oh, I didn't know that. I see, or I would
say what those of us in the industry, I here
it is thinking it's thinking of.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Like Wrangler George Straight collection inspired by the King of Country.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Well, there you go. It just seemed too obvious.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
Dude.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
You can go to you can go to Wrangular dot
com right now, get you a pair, and dude, he
signs them. How much are they?
Speaker 6 (05:57):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Actually not bad?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
The Cowboy cut fifty like the that's not bad as
all the cowboys bad man, It's really not bad.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Actually, I uh, I had no idea that. Did you
know he's got his own longsley button downs. Now that's
the look. Those are twenty nine ninety nine. That's a
legalized left with the King.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
So I don't know how we got to George Straight wars. Yeah, okay, cool, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Sure he'll I'm sure he'll he'll do great job.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Did they even have men's George Straight graphic teas? Hey? See,
we weren't paying enough attention.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
We well we have George straight and straight went to
George probably listening right now right radio Free. Yeah, and
he's probably saying, Sean Brian, Yeah, you guys know that
I do have you know what, what size of you guys?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
We'll send all three of you pair of pair of denims.
So what were you saying? Don't bury the lead on
what you want to start with your Alex Bregman Now
I want to talk Nick kay Lee.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
I was talking to SUPERB.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
What do you want to go with the lead? Was
pretty simple.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
I was you're not seeing Halloween after all these years
watching watching back on movie band with Yeah, but watching
h what'd you watch again.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Times? Which is cool? I want a great actor. He
is a great actor. But what's his name? Remy? It's
Remy Remy. I looked it up last night. Damn it.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Heemian Rhapsody. Remy did a job man, Uh Remy Mallick Malick.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
There you go? You did you You know what Sasha
Baron Cone is right? Uh? Yeah, you know he was
originally cast for this movie. But the if I'm not mistaken,
I got to double check it. But the band members
that are still alive from Queen had a massive say
in the making of this movie, and Sasha Baron Cohen
got pulled off the set and pulled off of the
(07:48):
filming of it because you know, Sasha Baron Cohen, being
a being the type of factor that he is, he
wanted to focus more on Freddie Mercury's sex life rather
than the band. So they said no, Dawn, Yeah, and
I'm glad they did because this dude, Remy Mallick, what
a hell of a job in that movie. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah, you got to miss me with the worried about
that because that they got.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
The right guy. Yeah, there is no doubt, man, they
got the right guy. He was phenomenal in that movie.
It was fantastic. But yeah, I watched last night for
like the forty fifth time. It's all right, it's a
great movie. Man, the crap happens. Manah, Man, I do
what you gotta do. Yeah, Texans, they finally have a
new offensive coordinator, Nick Kyley. Nick Kayley coming over from
the Rams. He was the tight ends coach passing game
(08:32):
coordinator and he is now the Texans offensive coordinator. They
announced that yesterday officially on their Twitter account. So now
the search for their offensive line coach and his offensive staff.
I saw Aaron Wilson, our guy he joins us every
Friday during football season NFL Insider. He said that he
doesn't he feels that the offensive staff isn't going to
(08:53):
change much. So we said yesterday, are they gonna finally
hire somebody? And then boom, we get off air and
they hire somebody.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
And if you're Nick Kayley, I'm sure sure getting your
first time, your first opportunity to call plays as an
offensive coordinator at the NFL level, that you probably want
help with the responsibility of hiring who it is. They're
probably just gonna say, hey, we like the relationship with
our quarterback coach, we like Girad Johnson. Here's who we'd
like his offensive line coach nor And they said they'll
(09:20):
let him do it. So if he has somebody in
particular in mind, I think it's a wise move to
allow him to bring that offensive line coach or whoever
he wants working with him. But that's where Demico gets
that say on Okay, yeah, that's fine, but we got
a good thing going with this relationship.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
What else would you like?
Speaker 2 (09:37):
So but they got a guy and they they're going
once again remember Bobby Sloan was the passing game coordinator.
If I'm not mistaken in San Francisco work the first year,
how about the second, I'm not comparing him. Isn't it
amazing how many coaches just keep coming out of the
Ramps system. It's amazing. So I'm anxious to see how
this works out. But it's like they waited for one
(09:58):
of the best for last. For them, they went through
it all, got interviewed him, and he won him over.
So it feels to me like they they they found
the guy that they loved and and this is the one,
and he's gonna have something to work with. But there's
still more you gotta go get for him. Yeah, there's
now two nick C's in the building. Nick SiO, Nick Kayley.
(10:19):
Doesn't think anybody says calls him nicky C. Well, that's
what I was just gonna say. You took the words
right out of my mouth. We called him nicky Cis
we gotta be who deserves the nicky ce call? Though,
one that's been around longer, probably the general manager. I
would say nicky C. Yeah, you probably call him mister.
If he walked in here right now, I'd call him Nick.
So would you call him Nick Saban or mister Saban
(10:41):
or coach Saban?
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Coach?
Speaker 2 (10:42):
That's right, Okay, we've had that discussion. Coach, Hey, general
manager Casi, how you doing? Yeah this doesn't sound right.
It sounds terrible. Mister Cass, I would understand if you're
if you just got hired in the building. I'm older
than he is, so yeah, maybe he should call me
mister South better recognized as that to do with that respect.
But but yeah, coach Saban walks in here. Of course
(11:03):
he's getting called coach, not Nick. I would never call
him Nick even sitting on the set, Okay, coach Saban
because his knowledge, Oh it would be really cool.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Yeah, he fits well into the broadcast stuff. Man, he doesn't.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
He'll drop an Sam on a regular time, regular base
which he's going to talk to. Yeah, I think that
he's he's building something pretty special and cool, and he's
not he's not afraid to criticize. He's criticized his own
buddies that he's had on his staff, and he's not
afraid to compliment people. And I think Coach Savan's really
good on TV. He I don't think he's ever going
(11:37):
to coach again. I think he's you know, I can
never say that because I say to you know, Pete
Carroll's of the world, and now you say, well they're
done and he's at a seven. He's what does he need?
He doesn't need this. He got money. He go give
speeches for one hundred grand a pop and not have
to worry and work fifteen days a year.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
But hard to take that out of him.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, and if all of a sudden, his buddy Belichick
he's kicking ass and loving it and has constant convert
stations how to deal with Nil with Nick and they
have maybe.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Just maybe he comes back.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
And you know what, the only place Nick Saban's ever
been perceived as he failed was as a head coach
in Miami.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Will it ever get And and he's the greatest college
coach of all time.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
That's saying something.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
With Bear Bryant and Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden, all
the great ones, think about this. You know, the Notre
Dame's going on when you go all the way back,
win one for the gift wherever you know, my my
coach John Robinson, there's been some great ones all over
the place. Is with him. Does he ever get to
(12:37):
the point where he says, let me go give it.
He's got the same youthful attitude, maybe a little less.
H Pete Carroll's like kind of save energy.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
You know.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
I could see Pete Carroll walking and starts singing in
front of his group, maybe not Nick saying, but he's
on it, but he's still got young energy. What if
somebody said, just just give.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
It one more try.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
We got your quarterback now he's not being unfortunately a
breeze and Dante Culpepper was so beat up and heard
from that knee injury. So when does it get to
a point or does it where Nick says, let me
scratch this itch one time so I can go out
there and it may not be long, but because you know,
then he becomes the Jimmy Johnson where he's winning one
and there and winning one. You know, does it ever
(13:18):
get to the point he says, you know, for twenty
million a year, I could go back to the media,
let me give it this a three year try.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
I know this though, if you're going to deal with pros,
you might as well go deal with pros since college
is pro pro. Yeah, he's already scratched that itch and
scratch it pretty damn well. Well, I just wonder if
he'll ever get the urge. But maybe not. Maybe it's
time for him to just enjoy. But a coach is
a coach man, and it's tough to take it out
of him.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
Could you imagine NFL where Chip Kelly becomes a head
coach again?
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Will happen if he has any success at all with
the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Jim Harbaugh is back in the NFL as a head coach,
who was the third one that I was just thinking of,
Nick Saban and Pete Carroll, all head coaches.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Well, you're gonna watch these guys work their way back
more and more, even if it's a young guy, because
they're gonna get tired of telling the eight seventeen and
eighteen year old how great they are, knowing that they
might leave in a year. That's hard to do and hell,
and knowing that not only that, but they're going to
(14:22):
look at you and say, coach, it's great, I love
your program, But if you can't pay me ten million house,
I'm not interested.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
I need more money.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Second, it's worse than NFL free agency player empowerment in
college football went from zero to one hundred and eighty
in about eight seconds.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Quick man, Sure, sure did. All right, let's talk about
that Texans hire of Nick Cayley for offensive coordinator. How
much concern do you have with the lack of play
calling experience that just got done going through that with
Bobby Slow. Let's talk about it next. In Sportstock seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
This Sean Salisbury show continues, But I haven't met a cherrybomb.
What what was the club or the bar that you
went to when you were at usc Like, what was
the spot Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
You just beat Notre Dame at home?
Speaker 2 (15:12):
The love Grotto?
Speaker 4 (15:14):
That what is called? Yeah, my apartment?
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Yeah, the best I called the love Grotto.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Uh, just kidding.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
I would probably say, like my buddies that two of
my best friends, they lived together for a long time,
they called their apartment the Pondo, the Ponderosa. We all
had a name for us. I bet it is probably
a thirty second Street cafe still there. It's at the
end of Fraturny and Sorority Row, and it may have
(15:45):
as good as Burger as areas in the state of California.
I'm telling you, it's in there. And it's the place where,
you know, day after a sorority row part. It's right
at the end, so you literally just got to walk
across the street and you're in it.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
That's that.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
That was the number one spot every now and then
we'd roll over to Brentwood or Westwood and steal their zoids.
But and then uh, it's three. Then there's the five
oh two. They had the nine oh one, and then
the five oh two cafe was an upstairs downstairs bar.
It was off the charts as well, and you'd eat,
you know, you could eat, you could.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
Eat in there.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
And then the burgers and burger and beer at the
thirty uh at the nine oh one is what it
was called. Did I say thirty second Street cafe?
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
And five we had thirty second Street cafe, the five
oh which was the five O one. The thirty second
Street Cafe was upstairs downstairs. We had the five O
two which was right there across campus. And then the
nine oh did we call it the five on the
nine of one was five oh two one was nine
o one and that's where the bed nine oh was
the best burgers in the in the and still there
(16:45):
and they dressed it up inside. It's a gold mine.
It's a great place. And you wanted to see the
pretty the pretty people. Uh huh that was that was
the place to go, like Scottsdale. Pretty well, dude, think
about it now. And I don't mean this is a
go ahead man, I I you know, come from the
main streets esco. You know, when you're driving your vehicle
(17:05):
and every females from Newport, Pasadena, uh soon Beach, San Diego,
La Joia, Palace Verdes, and their car is one that
you wish for when you're like sixty. Yeah you heard
about buddy, and you're like yeah, and they're driving and
then they got four family members yeah at the same
like two sons and three daughters at the same time.
(17:27):
And the pops is the chairman of the board on
CEO from at Fluor Corporation in Newport.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
Right.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Yeah, that's so you're asking it. Put it this way,
Scottsdale was in the nine o one cafe. Yeah, walk
up and down Sorority Row on a Thursday night. And
matter of fact, I'm sure eighty percent of them living
in Scottsdale.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Down now telling you when the last time I was there.
Our uber driver, cool ass dude had this. We were
in a tesla and he was telling us like he
was like the craziest thing that I've seen, because he
grew up in Scottsdale, and he was like, just how
we've blown up talking about this city into a bachelorette
bachelor party destination. He was like, but do you know
how many California transplants we have here? Of course, he said,
(18:07):
everyone's tired of living there and they come here.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
It's closed. You can still get to California quickly, but
you don't have to pay all that tax and do
all this stuff. And it airs in Scott's. When I
was growing up and living in North Phoenix, when we
moved there for work and then ended up going back
to California, it was Scottsdale was considered retirement, old folks. Real,
Oh dude, it was old folks. You'd go there as
(18:31):
a snowbird, and it was. It was old folks. And
if you notice the single story homes, the ramblers and
the back backyards and like Scott's so how big they
are just at the normal in the normal neighborhoods.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Yeah, it's not like you have to be in the suburb.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
The normal neighborhood's got an acre sitting right off Scottsdale Road. Yeah,
and they're every I mean I'm talking about.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
And you're like, I should have bought forty of these
when you were you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
And the truth is now it's become the snowbirds. Everybody
still go there, but it's no longer just hey, you're
going there to retire and it's seventy year old's playing golf. No,
it's it's as you know, it's become a young person's
and it's a great mix.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
But if you're asking me what it was like.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
One of these times, we'll have to go to a
game and it's one of those you walk into nine
and you're not sure it's the daughter or the mom, right,
you know that one of those, right?
Speaker 6 (19:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:22):
And so yes, you go take it to the nine
and we'll get a burger on game day or on
a Thursday night for like maybe it's a Friday game
and you just walk in there and then you tell
me what was it like when you go to school, Shawn,
and you don't I don't have to talk.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
You can make the.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Decision yourself, right, it'll it'll rear its head. So I
can you know, ole miss, I mean you can. This
is everybody's got there attractive to Arizona State. Yeah, I
mean in a smaller because we are small campus. We're
not fifty thousand. It's like sixteen thousand undergrads when I
was going to school there. But you see the same
ones every day and like we see oh like remember
(19:58):
when you were like a saw the hot or when
you were a freshman and you never see it again
right there walk across. It's like every day. So yeah,
all those great campuses that are filled with you know
when you're college co ed's when you were growing up
in college, say, man, what you know? Because guys, you
know how it is you I want to go here?
When to go here? Oh yeah, they're when you're eighteen,
you think, oh the girls are hot too, right, Well
(20:21):
they were hot, and they're the ones who bought for
you because you didn't have enough money. They were the
ones who were treating because they had dude, lineup, Well,
what's your dad?
Speaker 4 (20:30):
It owns this, owns that.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
And it's it's expensive to go to that private school,
a school I couldn't have gone to if it wasn't
for a scholarship, and you know it's like, oh okay, hey,
uh yeah, we're dating for two's.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
I don't have any money. I'm on scholarship.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
That's okay. My pops is going out on his forty
five foot hatterist this week. And would you have to
go back to honey to heyanks and Harvar.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
Yeah, my dad gave me like ten grand from my
cotillion back when when I was sixteen, So I got
some of that cash left. What do you want?
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, and the card that's in Pop's name and it's black,
that one. Yeah, the black credit card was like at
it just hey, we'll get you at the end of
each month. Yeah, that was you know what I'm saying.
That care card where and honestly, and I can vib
like twenty bucks is good to me. That's a pizza
on Monday night. Oh but it's not like you're looking
for it. But it's hard not to find. There's a
(21:17):
lot of money on that campus, like going to ask me,
there's a lot of money on the campus, right, but
yeah it is. You wouldn't have a problem with it.
You enjoy it. Yeah, yeah, I can take you back
to then and even now. Yeah, So it's a. There's
a lot of good there's a lot of good optics there.
You want to talk about, uh, excuse me? An experience.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Soul ross on a Thursday night, first fall, the fall,
first fall, Thursday night of the season. Come on, pretty.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
People there too, brother, No, No, A few man, Yeah,
there's a few.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
I wouldn't take it any other way though. Honestly, nine
hours away from home due you couldn't leave, right, You
couldn't just drive home for the weekend. See on ed.
That was the best part about it.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
You know, it's crazy at SC Friday nights. We're not
a big We're Friday. It was Thursdays and Saturday right
after the game, yeah, or there Fridays. What you do
is they party like crazy on Thursday. Take their laundry, everybody, men, women,
to take it all home on Friday. I'm talking about
the not because we had to be around for meetings
(22:16):
and get ready to play. Take it go home Friday,
do all their stuff and if they came back Friday night,
they may go to a bar, low key or dinner.
But then they'd wake up start tailgate and Saturday morning
or Saturday night after the game was big. Thursday was
the biggest night on campus. I'm sure that I know.
That's the way it isn't a lot of camp Fridays,
especially in s S's a commuter campus for a lot
of them, meaning they're there, but on a Friday night
(22:37):
they're going to Newport to you know, Palace Verdiere, and
then they'll be back for the they'll get back Friday
for the game Saturday. That's how it was on our campus.
But Thursday night, if you I mean, you can have
absolutely zero game and pull a nine.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
Yeah, zero game? Yeah, so is that? How is that
how you got so many dudes? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:58):
I wouldn't even like I said, I said the pretty people.
I'd say pretty women. I said the pretty people. You know,
if that's you, if that's what you like, there's plenty
of those guys there too.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yeah. So Wednesdays we had karaoke night at the Railroad Blues.
You could get five dollars thirty two ounce beers. College kid, dude,
you're that's like two of those and your you're feeling good, right?
And then on Thursdays, depending you know, you went over
to uh, I don't know, you take your ass over
to the god what was it called? What are the
drive through liquor stores here in town. What are they called,
(23:28):
uh like a barn. Yeah, it's I got through barn.
I go to the one over there now far what
is it called Eskimo hut? Okay, free pub? We had
an Eskimo hut there. They had beer pong on Thursday
nights and you venture over to the Lowbo and then
Saturday night it was just you went to the Leveo
like that's what you did unless Aaron Watson was playing
down the road at the Railroad Blues again. But dude,
Fridays were lame man like. We played video games on
Friday night. And then during the season, obviously you can't
do a damn thing.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
But yeah, during the season Friday, we'll throw your your
get eleven o'clock curfew bet in the off sea like
in the off season, you end up going to Newport
or Westwood or Santa Barbara for the weekend because it
was just and the quarterback there was a was a
(24:10):
good job. It was a good job to have.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Did you ever take on a seiers question. I know
we got to go to break. Do you ever take
a step back and be like, damn, dude, I was
the quarterback at USC every day setting.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Record just just and in my just in my you know,
not like out loud, but in private moments about what
a blessing. Yeah, oh come on, man, Yeah, I think
about it all the time, thinking memories of my parents
and on game day and friends and all the stupid stuff.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Yeah, the laughs. We spoke a thousand times. That's the
stuff that I missed. It's the dumb ass stuff in
the locker rooms on the road trip, this stuff like
the hotels, No doubt. I can remember.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
We were big brothers for sorority, myself and Steve Timmins.
You remember, called Red Sand the volleyball self.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Red Sand. He was the he was the.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Closer, you know, he was the hitter for outside hitter
and guy who's the best finishure and in the in
the world. At home he was an Olympian. And Steve
and I were great buddies in school, so we were.
I mean, I can remember one night, you know, they
dressed you up and and we had to do some
really stupid stuff, you know, just good guy stuff for
there laughing at you drunk and Steve and I already
just hit me when you said, I said, yeah, stupid
(25:17):
stuff like that that my buddies. I remember that time
we had you in a wheelchair, drunk out of your
mind and then dressed in ah you know how they
ever they do it, And my buddy still to this
day say, oh you were you couldn't even find your
growing because you were so out of it, and they
put me in bed by the guy friends did right. Yeah,
and red Soul, my boy Steve was still there. I
miss it, but we it's stuff like that, those memories
(25:38):
in the office we had. But but we ended up
going You ended up going to the beach somewhere where
somebody that's got a lot more money than I had, did.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Y'all ever, Uh No, we got to go to break Yeah,
let's get to We're worth good conversation. Yeah, I just yeah,
so yeah, I count those blessings. I don't.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Some of the best memories of my life is standing
around with those fellows of mine and having some laughs
and jokes. Oh, there's no question I miss it. I
think about the blessing every day of being able to
be on that campus and play football.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
No, I want to I want to have you on
a podcast like to where I interview you.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Well guess what's going to happen?
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Well, I know I know that, but I'm talking like
where it's your the episode. You're the guy, and.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
We can make that happen immediately because it also allows
you to know people to know you when you introduce
a new one.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Yeah, yeah, we'll have a blast because I want to
be able to hear you cuss and.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Remember where we're going on this as soon is not? Uh?
Is not uh? What's the word I'm looking for?
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Is not?
Speaker 2 (26:29):
There is no speech? Is not filtered? Thank you, it's unfiltered,
paid and unpaved. Damn right humped for it. Yeah, me too.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Nick Kyley, new offensive coordator for the Texans, is there
concern that he has no experience call and plays? That's next?
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Hey, I know we getting to break a little late,
but it's worth it because you know what stories the stories,
and you want a great story for you when it
comes to man, you can't believe what they did for

Speaker 1 (28:00):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
That might be worth a bet.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Take the coup, take the koops, no doubt. Seven one, three,
two two five seven ninety will be uh, get us
back on time here, Let's go out to Steve talking
about these Texans. What's up Steve?
Speaker 6 (28:16):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Not too much?
Speaker 7 (28:17):
Guys, can you hear me?
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Yes, sir, we got you.
Speaker 8 (28:20):
Hey, you know, I understand.
Speaker 7 (28:21):
You know, last year Bobby Slovak was was uh, you know,
one of the up and coming uh you know, head ocs,
and I think he kind of got a bum deal.
And you guys may disagree with me, but you know
this coming into this this past year, you know, he
was supposed to be have Diggs, he was supposed to
(28:43):
have uh, the other one that tore up his knee.
He was supposed to have an offensive line that would
protect a little bit. You know, a lot of the
the calling. While I was watching the game, I was like,
what what is he doing? But you know, yeah, in hindsight,
you know, every play it's supposed to work. Okay, it's
(29:04):
supposed to work if it's if it's run correctly. And
I have to say that I think Dimenko Ryans used
this as a crutch because of the I just think
he should have gotten one more year. And due to
the fact that you know, this offensive line was terrible,
(29:25):
absolutely terrible. It's hard to call plays when you have
when you have an offensive line, and Sean you could
probably get attests to this. I mean as a quarterback,
if you think that you're gonna get sacked every time,
it's hard to run the play and and and and
be one hundred percent into into it. Now, I understand
that there was maybe some some disgruntled uh between Dimiko
(29:50):
and and the and Bobby. Can you guys elaborate on
that and do you agree with me or do you
think I'm kind of out of the off the realm.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Have a great good day, guys, appreciate it you as
well as far as like the disgruntled from everything that
I read, I don't know if you would call it disgruntled.
I think maybe the frustration would be a better word.
Between Demico Ryans and Bobby Slowak. And I think that's
why you saw they didn't waste any time. They evaluated
and said we're going to make a change. Yeah, it's
so quickly. How what have you done for me lately
(30:19):
in that league? Right?
Speaker 2 (30:19):
And it applies to coaches as well. I personally Steve
thought that they'd give Slowak one more year. It almost
felt and I don't this shouldn't be I get it,
but it almost felt like it was a hall past
year with all the injuries. But coaches, just like they
lose patients with players, they lose patients with their staff
members because they're tied to your hip. And yes, I
(30:40):
don't think Bobby Slowack did an awful job. I actually
think the two playoff games he actually put him in position.
If you can't block and give up eight sacks, I
don't know how much of that's on Bobby Slowack. If
if a guy's on a guy and the guy you're
supposed to block you're supposed to block, or you don't
know who to block, then that's a combination of are
you not teaching well or somebody I'm paying attention. So
I'm not surprised it happened or shocked, but I when
(31:01):
you asked me, I said, it seems like he'll get
a third year. But they made them move quickly on
the offensive side, So basically they were saying the reason
we didn't move on is offense. That's basically what that's saying,
and it didn't live up to the I think it
was a cumulative effect, didn't live up to the expectations
in year two that they wanted and maybe even at
times in year one when they thought they could even
get more out of it. So but disgruntled. I think
(31:24):
it just gets to the point. I don't think you
walked out the building.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
I hate you. I hate you.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
I think we walked out of building thinking. If you're
Bobby slogan, you're thinking too soon. And if you're Demico
Ryan saying, we're in a league that's wins, we got
to win now and win a windows open. So I
think you got the three win team was like, okay,
we turned it to a ten win team that was
epic quantum leaps.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
And then I think they took a step.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Back offensively, And it's for a lot of reason, not
just look, but like in all things, if the offense struggles,
you go coordinator first, quarterback second, or vice versa, and
then you go the position that's struggling, and they the
quarterback's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
He struggled at.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Times, but he's not going anywhere in this situation. It's
and they got rid of what they perceived is the
offensive weaknesses this year. So bumber, Bobby Slowik will coach.
We'll call plays again for somebody sooner than later.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Yeah, there's also you know, like Steve mentioned, no Stefan Diggs,
no tank out, offensive line sucked. You had just Nico
Collins and then a couple, just some guys.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Then you ask themself, Yeah, how could they have been
How could they have been better this year with all
those losses?
Speaker 4 (32:34):
Yeah, great point. Yeah, so I think there's there's stuff
to be said about the injuries, lack of offensive production
when it comes to the line blocking. But but then
there's also time and also things, and we can continue
this discussion as we go to break. But Joe Mixon
could have been utilized more out of the backfield in
the passing game. You didn't see that much. Apparently there was.
There was some reports that Bobby Slowack wasn't giving CJ.
(32:56):
Stroud the ability to change stuff at the line, and.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
So which I got to make the problem with.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Yeah, I like that, that's an issue and if that's
on the offensive coordinator, well that's on that was on
Bobby Slowk. So let's let's get let's get to break,
and we'll keep talking about Nick Kayley as the new
offensive coordinator for the Texans. What are your concerns? That's next? Y,
You're back. This is the Sean Salisbury Show. Get back
at it. Play all right, Let's look at Nick Kayley.
(33:24):
So who is Nick Kaylee? If you haven't been paying attention,
Nick Kyley started his coaching career at John Carroll. That's
where he got his degree from same university as Nick Cassario.
He was a student assistant at five and he was
a grad assistant at Akron. He had stops at Auburn, Iowa, State,
(33:44):
Eastern in Illinois, Arkansas, Florida, Atlantic. He was the offensive
assistant for the Patriots. Then he was the tight ends
coach for the Patriots. Then he was the tight ends
of fullbacks coach for the Patriots. Then he became the
tight ends coach again for the Patriots. Then he went
over to the Rams as the tight end coach. Then
he became the pass game coordinator. Now he is the
offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Sean, if you're the pass game coordinator in the Rams,
sorry interrupt, You've got a pretty good gig next, and
I will tell you this real quick before you ask
that what.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
Is how old is he? Nick Kayley? I know, but
go ahead and tell me forty one. Well, year eighty three.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
I was going to say, did he turn forty one yet?
I knew he's either forty or forty one. Think about
that now. Actually he just turned twenty. Excuse me, he
just turned forty two. Forty two? Okay, second, there he goes,
so just turned it. I want you to think for
one second about the coaching life. Look at all the
(34:45):
stops he made. He's in his for he's not seventy,
he's in his forties. So you want to be a coach, Yeah,
look what he look at Look what you have to
do and the grind you got to put on, and
it's not Some guys will be on a fast track quicker, right.
He had with fifteen spots.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
Seven seven stops in college, and then he was in
New England from twenty fifteen to twenty twenty two, but
like with one two three different job to four different
job titles, and then two years with the Rams with
two different job titles, and.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
He's now the offensive coordinator here after all this time,
and he's finally getting a chance to call plays in
the NFL. That's a grind. Now now they get paid
handsomely for it. Yeah, and more than ever now, you know,
when a guy like Chip Kelly, who's your offensive coordinator
with the Raiders and they're making six million a year.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Not a bad gig. There eight is, thank you.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
And there you go with Nick Keyley after all this,
so he's seen a lot of coordinators, watched a lot
of play callers. The question is, and I've tried to
tell people this, just because you've seen it or you're
on a staff, is a great play caller doesn't necessarily
mean that, oh, you're coming. It's just going to be
just as easy as a transition. For some it's natural
to be a play caller. For others their position coaches,
(35:59):
and to get into the rhythm of play calling at
times can be awfully difficult to do. So we're going
to find out if if you can handle the role.
Some are not good at it and some are outstanding
at it. And then we say, what took so long?
Because this guy's really good and obviously that's what you're
hoping for with Nick.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Cayley and with Nick Kyley, with all those stops he
has not called place. So what's your concern level, I'm.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
A little surprised, not surprised that they went out and
got a guy that obviously Demico Ryans and Nick Cassario
are talking to those guys along the mcvay's and the
people along the way say what do you think? Or
when Nick, you know from New England Times, was able
to look in there when he was there and say,
I watched this guy work. He's perfect for that, all
those things you're trying to get. Listen, it's an important
(36:45):
job and everybody's job depends on it. So you're gonna
do all your due diligence of emptying the bucket on
research on what he brings to the table. What they
don't know is can he call place They believe he can't,
they wouldn't hire him, And so my level of concern,
I think he'll be a quick study because if you've not,
(37:06):
everybody continues to put him on their staff.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
And he's learned.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Listen, he's been around McVeigh, Josh McDaniel, McDaniels, Nick Cassario knows,
he's been around some damn good coaches, So we'll find
out what he picked up. But then again, there's a
DNA rhythm that goes with it. I'm just a little
surprised that they didn't go they went. They actually went
down the exact same path they went the first time
guy who's comes highly regarded Bobby Slowick on a familiar
(37:33):
team forty nine ers, even though this is the RAMS
but familiar system and the Demiko knew and had never
called plays, and here he was. I'm a little surprised
that they didn't go out and get somebody who's done
it before. But I'm not shocked that they went with
that coaching tree. Yeah, and I don't have a problem
(37:53):
with it. But once again, you'll know pretty quick what
kind of rhythm and it's listen. He comes highly regarded
as what when the real light? When the red light
goes on? Just like learning the disk job in college,
you know, yeah, broadcast job. I can remember the first
time life when I was like, you're going through it
and stuff and you get a chance, hey stop, let's
stop down.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
It's we're doing this.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
But when you do it live, you don't get to
stop down, right, And it's the same thing here all
the stuff now it's time to show up. So uh,
he's been highly regarded for a while. He's getting the opportunity.
That's the only thing. I'm surprised they didn't go with
somebody with a little more experience after the first time around,
with a guy I'd never called him. But that ought
to tell you how they feel about Nick Kaylee.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
They're willing to do it again. Yeah, So I think
one thing I wanted to dig into as we get
in the seven o'clock hour with you, Sean, is excuse me,
you talked about going down the same path that they
did with Bobby Sloan. So where what's the difference between
hiring Bobby Sloke Because was it familiarity or was it
highly regarded or is Nick Kyley just that talented that
highly regarded?
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Real quick, Yeah, the only difference is I don't think
along the way Demko Ryans has worked.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
With, right Nick Kylee? Right, And that's but familiarity we
can discuss. Yeah, that's another angle that I want to
dig into it. So let's get in the seven o'clock
hour and continue that discussion.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
Next.

Sean Salisbury, The USC Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Brian Lima, Go Lobo. This is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (40:15):
Also listen to us on the Free iHeartRadio app. Shawn Salisbury,
Brian Lilima, Manuel Elmore. Rockets lose to the Knicks. Texans
hired Nick Cayley as their new offensive coordinator. The University
of Houston hosting Oklahoma State tonight Big Twelve Conference playover
at the Ftida Center. We've been talking about the Texans
and their new offensive coordinator, Nick Cayley coming over from
(40:40):
the Rams tight ends coach, past game coordinator. So let's
talk a little more Sean about Nick Cayley and the
hiring of him for the Texans. So when Damico Ryans
came here from San Francisco, he brought over Bobby Slow.
Bobby Slog, if I'm not mistaken, also was the pass
(41:01):
game coordinator for the forty nine ers. Has never called play,
had never called plays two parter here? What was the
what aspect do you think it is? Do you think
it was more familiarity? Gosh, dang it familiarity? Familiarity there
we go right with Demico and Bobby Slog. Because Sloyk
(41:23):
was in San fran from twenty seventeen until he came
over here. He was just a passing game coordinator. Before that,
he was a passing game specialist, so he didn't even
have a coordinator position, co coordinator, nothing. Do you think
it was just a familiarity or do you think Demiko
Ryans thought, man, this guy is the next thing coming.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
I think it's a combination. I don't think they went
into this not knowing about him and just saying, oh,
he just happens to be with Sean mcvaala's Hiram. I
think it's I think it's probably three pronged. One is
highly regarded because of familiarity from his past being in
New England and a lot of people can give you
(42:03):
insight on him to where Nick Cassaria has been.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
That's one.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
Two, the verbiage should stay pretty close to the same,
which benefits Stroud and those guys where they don't have
to waste their spring of oh man, more verbiage and
more of this. I got add Now he'll add his
twist to it, but I imagine unless he goes way
outside the box that the same verbage is going to be.
And I think that's important because you now the offseason,
(42:31):
instead of happening to grind on that we're pushing it
forward on to what the next level of the offense.
I do think that's part of the familiarity. Part two
is they can't help but love.
Speaker 8 (42:45):
That.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
It seems like all the guys, there's so many guys
coming out of San Francisco, the Green Bay, the RAMS system,
coach after coach after coach who've had success elsewhere. So
you're saying it's just just did this is like an
assembly line other guy, another guy. Now they all different,
but there is there is something too that and that
(43:06):
goes back to the part and dude, don't don't kid yourself.
The John Carroll connection matters to them that group. It's
almost and I don't mean this, not not to Miko,
but the Nick cas Alum. It's almost and I mean
this in a positive way, but the words negative. It's
like a cultish way, right that it's like, man, John Carroll,
there's some elect it is and that's probably that's probably
the better c word for it, right. But I do
(43:28):
think that the fact that he comes from that's and
that's part of the familiarity. But he comes from a
system that continues to produce successful coaches. That's two three
is if you watch the Rams passing game, they've got
an element that this team needs the ability to get.
Now they got to get some. I trade for Cooper
Cup tomorrow if you're Nick Hayley bringing him and the
(43:50):
Rams have told the classy Cooper Cup. You see how
he handled it. He disagrees with them trading, but he's
going to go on, he says, in the prime of
his career, and he's healthier than he's ever been. Why
not instead of have to worry about the draft, you're
waiting guys to get healthy.
Speaker 4 (44:04):
Go add him.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
He can play inside and outside, and he's a hell
of a blocker. The dude's a player. Yeah, go trade
for him. Talk about familiarity. So I do think the
third level of that is the fact that you watch
how sad this team had no business being with a
chance to go to the super Bowl. No if they
just didn't, And I'm being honest about that, considering think
about where.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
They were at the begin the year.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
We didn't think they were going to sniff the playoffs, injured,
beat up their two receivers going, and then the passing
game just continues to succeed. So I think there's that
that's the third part of it. I don't think that
this isn't a just a higher amunt of whim. They've
done some things in the passing game that and what's
this Think about the similarities of Stafford Strout, big arms,
(44:48):
pocket guys first are a little underrated with their feet,
but ball comes out and they can rip it. There's
so many similarities. And I would imagine Nick Kayley said,
what I can do with that guy who's like Stafford.
And remember how talents Stafford was so gifted young. He
has to have great players around him at first. Now
I take that back, meganownds pretty good, right, But I'm
talking about the over the dictator. So I think all
(45:11):
those things come into play. And remember, now, you don't
want to fail at this one, because I can assure
you if they do the next time, it'll be a
long time veteran coach that costs place. So this is
a well thought out. So when this whole process started,
I guarantee you he was on their radar from where
he's been. So familiarity matters in all of it. If
(45:33):
you're going to hire somebody, If everything being equal, I'm
going to hire the guy i'm familiar with more than
the guy i'm not, especially if he's doing the things
I like. Now, if I'm not familiar with him and
he jumps through the roof on his presentation, different story.
But you'll always it's like anything, relationships get you in
the door. Success in production keeps you in the door.
And that's what they're looking for this. So I don't
(45:55):
think it's one thing. We love his offense, Well you've
got that offense. Oh we love the way that they
go vertical, a quarterback who can throw it. I actually
think for me, it's the efficiency of the passing game.
I'm going to tell you right now I would I
would jump to the front of the line and trade
for Cooper Cup in a in a New York second. Yeah,
and add him to this, you get a Tank Dell
(46:15):
guy with less speed but a bigger body that right now,
because who knows what Dell's Dell may not even be
able to play next year.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
And then Stefon dig signs with you.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
Now I want you to think about this, and then
you can go focus on a tight end or something
in free agency of the draft.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
I want you to think about this.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Just next year, in your three wides, you're lining up
with Stefan Diggs, Cooper Cup and Nico Collins Joe Mixon
in the backfield. And now you've get the Mechi Hutchinson whoever.
You think that that's that's not a bad way to go.
I can promise you this. He comes here with Nick
Kayley's offense, Cooper Cup WI catch a one hundred balls
(46:50):
next year? Yeah, and it's and and guess who the
number one will be? Nico Collins and guess who is
going to destroy you and man coverage your in simple
zone will be your upper cup Cup both. He will
be your smaller version with his knowledge of route running
of Kelsey, not at the tight end position in the slot.
He will give you the same things Kelsey, give you
(47:10):
the ability to understand what he's seeing. It's legalized theft
when he's running that win a six yard eight yard
just move route or understands guy, and he'll be a
great teacher in the system for young players. I'm just
telling you right now, I'd rather trade a third or
fourth round picker and a conditional for Cooper Cup. Then
I would go get a guy with the twentieth pick
(47:31):
or whatever in the first round. I know what I'm
getting from Cooper Cup. Yeah, I got a loaded roster
when they're healthy. Add this guy and you got what
you've been missing, A physical possession guy.
Speaker 1 (47:43):
So he was a Triple Crown winner three years ago.
Speaker 4 (47:46):
He won the triple. He did what Jamar Chase did
three years ago. So with Cooper Cup, if he's traded
or when he has traded, the new team would have
to inherit his twenty million dollars salary. It's a seven
and a half million dollars roster bonus plus twelve and
a half million dollar base, and then in twenty twenty
six it would be nineteen point eight five million. However,
(48:06):
you can renegotiate.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
Well, not only that, you don't, you can give him
the same money just moving around. Yeah, And I would imagine,
judging from the way he talks and what he's done,
I would imagine that Cooper Cup would the guy. The
guy's only been a league eight year, he's got to
play with good football. That I would imagine that Cooper
Cup would come in and say whatever takes to win. Now,
when you say move money around, that doesn't mean you're
(48:28):
gonna give him pay cut. That just means you're moving around.
And listen, you're telling me he's not worth considering what
he's done the money they're paying him. Oh, he's worth it.
And he's healthy. The dude's a monster player. I love him,
and he'll have some incentive after they let him go.
Three years ago. He was as good as we had
in the league. And now you know they you know,
Pooka is the guy now and I get it. But
(48:50):
you're getting and he's just a younger version of Cooper Cup.
Cooper Cup can play, so I called him Cup a Cup.
Speaker 4 (48:57):
So if you remember when they traded for stuff on Diggs,
the biggest thing was all you know, the big contract
Textans are taking it on. Texans renegotiated it to a
one year deal and he.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Was earning his money before he got hurt. He was
so same team captain as well.
Speaker 4 (49:12):
Right, So if if you're worried if the Texans can't
renegotiate with the player, well they did it with Stefan Diggs.
I'm assuming they would be able to do it with Cooper.
I would trade for Cooper Cup today. I would go
get him right now.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
I would already on the way out of the building.
I have Nick Kaylee stick him in his luggae and
bring him with Yeah exactly, I'm just telling you. When
I saw yesterday that Cooper Cup that they were going
to trade him, I know it's got a hurt McVeigh
to have to do that unless need in the front office.
But I for I would not hesitate one second to
go get the guy. Why because of and you don't
(49:45):
have to teach him new verbage. No, and you know
who tries Like I said, familiarity. You think Nick Kayley
thinks who Cooper Cup can play? I guarantee he does.
I just for me, Like I said, this guy is
and there's incentive for him, so I can. Now, how
do you explain how Philadelphia pays all their guys, How
Kansas City pays all their guys, How certain teams pay
(50:06):
all their guys in the NFL A side cap, how
they've got a brilliant cap ologist in front office and
their players are willing to move theirs around. And all
as it does is move it around and gives you
more upfront and back. What's the problem. You're gonna get
your money anyway. You can cut Shack Mason. There's so
many different things you can do to manipulate that. You
can cut Shack Mason and you're gonna save like five
(50:26):
million bucks. There's five million bucks. I'm gonna tell you
what I'll never stop doing is be greedy enough to
say I got two, I want a third. And I'm
talking about if I have two edge rushers and I
can get another one for the right price, I'll get
another one.
Speaker 6 (50:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
If I have over abundant we got a real good
offensive line, and I can add another Adam. If you've
got a receiver corps, think about the teams that are
almost impossible to stop. It's not one weapon. Yeah, it's
a bunch of them, right, And I just to me,
you move it around because you say, if I'm going in,
I'm going all in. Not everybody can be Kansas City
(51:00):
and get by with you know, guys that haven't that
aren't you know that, aren't Tyreek Hill anymore. I'm talking
about the current Chiefs team. You'd think Worthy's got a chance,
but really, you know, as the Whiteouts, if I said,
do they have any guy in the top ten, No,
I'm talking about in your your answers, No, No, Worthy's
got a chance to.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
Be there at one point. Yes, he's a little bit
on the downs, He's still DeAndre Hopkins, right, and you
could still count on him.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
Listen, he's he for a while, he was a top three,
top four guy, and maybe you'd stick him down there
because his hands are still so good. But he's just
it's not the same as it was. So he gives
you that security blanket. But I'm just saying, even with him,
with Hopkins and Worthy, Worthy still Smith Schuster is not
the same.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
But the point is.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
They've got a bunch of guys that aren't in the
ones trying to get to the prime career, guys that
are just they know their role. How's that? And Hopkins
can catch ten balls in a game and still survived
catching two. And you know how excited he is to
be in his first Super Bowl?
Speaker 8 (51:57):
Right?
Speaker 2 (51:58):
So I just to me, you get listen, why wouldn't
I make it miserable for defenses to defend?
Speaker 4 (52:05):
And if you can afford it, you do it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
If that means some guy, what do I always say,
I'm always trying to replace you. Yeah, as a coach,
I'm trying to find somebody better than you, is what
I mean. And Cooper Cups your number two receiver here?
Speaker 4 (52:18):
Yeah, I'll go get him right now, no doubt, Cooper
Cup here real quick, he said yesterday on his Twitter account.
I was informed that the team will be seeking a
trade immediately and will be working with me and my
family to find the right place to continue competing for championships.
I don't agree with the decision, and always believed it
was going to begin and end in LA. Still, if
there's one thing that I've learned over the years, there
are so many things that are out of your control.
But it is how you respond to these things that
(52:40):
you will look back on and remember. I have taken
so much pride and playing alongside my teammates for the
LA community. So thank you for embracing my family and
making this such a special place for us. Twenty twenty
four began with one of the best training camps of
my career. Preparations start now for twenty twenty five, highly motivated,
as healthy as ever, and looking forward to playing elite
football for years to come. Love you, guys, but coming
for it all. Put him at the top of your
(53:01):
off seasonal list and do it fast. It would take
him right now. Yeah, I might even overpay a little bit.
I'll go pick at the draft pick. I'll go get
him from the airport. I don't have a problem with that.
You don't need to even spend a private car all
f one fifty man, I got room. Come on, let's
go crazy, man. I'm with you. I can't believe. I mean,
I understand why they're trading him. I'm assuming it's going
(53:22):
to be something with money and some other things. Good.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
But you bring him here, someone's gonna get a Hell,
we'll get a wider ship, and what's gonna He'll end
up in Kansas City. Stop it, he'll lan up an
catch one hundred and twenty balls. No, watch, watch, watch
there still go to Cincinnati and they'll keep Joe Burrow,
They'll keep t Higgins. Yeah, they'll keep I mean they'll
pay Jamar Chase, and then they'll add Cooper Cup. Good yeah,
(53:47):
and then Joe burrothill from four million yards good right?
Speaker 4 (53:50):
Good?
Speaker 2 (53:51):
Yeah, No, not Joe. I don't want him in any
other but building. I want Cooper Cup right here. Yeah,
me too, but so so you'll go to Kansas City. No,
they'll get Yeah, you know we got it. We's got
Cooper Cup. You know, it's been a it's been a
great relationship with me and Cooper. You know you used
to play a little wifoball together in the backyard and
and I look really excited for it. You think you
will watch it happen if he wants it, if he
(54:13):
doesn't want to win a championship, or he'll end up
with Josh Allen, perfect buffalo right.
Speaker 4 (54:19):
Yeah, he's from the Washington he states, he's used. He's
a perfect guy. Here at him, at him, Yeah, no doubt, man,
let's get to the stake out next year.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
On the Shoansalsbery say, Wits Advision dot com, w H
I T S E T T my uh Lasik procedure guy,
my eye care guy. And there is nobody better on
the planet than Wits ad Vision doctor Jeff witzon listen,
it's non invasive. I we all have the concern. Man,
I got a laser in my eyes.
Speaker 4 (54:45):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
With all the modern technology and equipment, that's the that's awesome.
But first and foremost is a doctor who's his He'd
treats your eyes like he treats his own families. That's
how he did mine. He'll do it for you too.
I've had buddies that have gone to him that come
out and say, should it sooner? I said the same thing,
So it's not invasive. I was on the table about
ten minutes and in a couple days scene better than
I'd seen since the prime of my vision. And I
(55:07):
feel like I'm back in it. And he always follows
up with me. That's called care. That's customer service. That's
caring about your the people who come see you and
I and your patients, and you'll you won't need a
lot of patience. You're not gonna be leting on the
table long and it'll be done right. When you've got
a guy who's done this tens of thousands of times,
(55:27):
you're pretty secure and knowing when you come out of it,
it'll be a decision. I can think about that. Whether
you can see your golf ball down, you're not squinting
at a game, all those things, no glasses, no contexts.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
Who doesn't want that?
Speaker 2 (55:37):

free consultation seven one three three six five nine seven

Speaker 8 (55:52):
List team and emotionally tied to the team.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
High Let's go all right, Sean?
Speaker 1 (56:03):
What are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 3 (56:06):
The Salisbury's takeouts Salsbury's takeouts on The Sean.
Speaker 4 (56:11):
Salisbury Show, Sorry for the stake out here On The
Shawn Salisbury Show, Shan bronno trimpo Lei Rockets fall to
the Knicks. Texans hired Nick Kayley as their new offensive coordinator.
Cougar's hosting Oklahoma State tonight over at the Fertida Center
seven seven ninety got the phone line starting to jam
(56:33):
up a little bit talking about Nick Keyley, the new
hire for the Texans as offensive coordinator. We'll start with John,
then we'll get to a couple more John.
Speaker 10 (56:40):
What's up, Hey, Good morning guys. Yeah, you know, I
I I hope Nick Keyley works out. I do, but
I was really hoping that the Texans would have gone
with more of a proven commodity. I mean, I was
really hoping that it was Chip Kelly. I know, he
got a monster contract.
Speaker 8 (56:58):
But he's worth it.
Speaker 10 (56:59):
I mean, we're wherever he's been, his his offenses have
always lit it up, whether it's pro or college.
Speaker 4 (57:04):
I mean, look what he did at Ohio State last year.
Speaker 10 (57:07):
And and everybody up in Ohio's depressed, because I know
a lot of people up there, but uh, I you know,
we just can't mess around with this. This is so
important and this is a critical year, you know, just
for Stroud and for that whole group. And I'm just
surprised they did this. I you know, it's we don't
know what we're getting. It's kind of an experiment in
(57:28):
a way, and I just wish they hadn't taken this
route that I don't know. I'm just like I said,
I really hope it works out, and it might, but
we don't know. And I just wish we had gone
more of a you know, open the pocketbook a little
bit and gone was somebody that's really proven that that
we know can really deliver and knows how to run
(57:50):
offenses and been successful wherever he's been. And I just
wanted to chime in on that, gud.
Speaker 4 (57:56):
Is it is it just the inexperience that concerns you?
Speaker 5 (58:00):
Yeah, yeah, it is it is.
Speaker 10 (58:02):
I mean, uh, look, he hasn't had I mean, he
just hasn't had any experience running a running an offense, right,
And yeah, it's the experience that bothers me and I
would love to see. Yeah, I'll just keep using Chip
Kelly as an example. I mean, you know what you're
gonna get with him. I mean, he's gonna deliver and
your offenses are gonna are gonna hum and uh, and
(58:25):
we don't know with this guy. I mean, he just
hasn't had the experience. And that's that's what I'm That's
what I'm really upset about. Yeah, I I just wish
that it was somebody just more proven that we've seen
some seen what they can do in the past, and
and uh, you know, we don't have it. We're just
uh hoping and uh, I mean I'm hoping, you're hoping,
(58:45):
We're all hoping. But uh, I wish it was more
of a defined commodity moving forward, that's all.
Speaker 4 (58:53):
And uh, we just don't have that.
Speaker 10 (58:56):
And we'll see and but I just I just shul
they gotten more of the proven route, that's all.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
Yeah, I think I'm John. Thanks for the call, buddy,
I'm with you. I like I said, of course, you're
gonna give me a chance. And you when you're and
it is, you're you're hanging it on hope that he
lives up to what he's done as a coach everywhere else.
But you never know until you throw him in there,
and you're gonna find out pretty quickly.
Speaker 6 (59:19):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (59:20):
Secondly, is.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
The normal just the normal human nature?
Speaker 4 (59:26):
That's that.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
That's the part I was a little surprised about. Not
that I don't think he can be great, and we
all hope he is. I was a little surprised because
normally it's it's human nature. If you're wearing, if you
if you go buy a vehicle from a company you
know from a dealership and it's you're a Ford guy
and you buy Chevy for the first time, and all
of a sudden it comes back and it's a lemon.
(59:49):
You may not go back to Chevy. I'm not saying that.
You know, it doesn't matter who I'm just using and
so you'll say, well, let me go away from that.
If you're an offensive coordinator and you get a guy
who is inexperienced, what do you normally do the next time?
If it didn't work out the way you want getting
out the little more experience, you usually don't go back
and do the same exact thing which they're doing. Passing
game coordinator, We've been around with a lot of different
(01:00:10):
in the same verbiage system. And with that that that
Tree of the McVeigh and Shanahan group and also was
a passing game coordinator, and it's been around people comes
highly regarded. But you still got to see him and
he's right about chip Kelly would have cost you six
million bucks. But there's a knowing, and there's knowing and hoping.
You know, Chip Kelly's gonna move the football. And if
(01:00:31):
you've got good players. So, yeah, I'm with John. Now,
let's hope it's awesome. But I was a little surprised
that they didn't go get somebody who's done it before.
It doesn't mean this guy can't have success, and none
of us really know that age. We're just gonna have
no idea, no idea. Yeah, and listen, Bobby Slok was
playing with a little less full cupboard with the injuries.
(01:00:53):
And we'll see if Nick Kayley gets the luxury of
playing with the healthy roster.
Speaker 6 (01:00:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
See, and in a offensive line keeps quarterback up right.
Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
Yeah, hopefully they get that thing figured out. Yep. Uh
seven one three, two, one two five seven it. Let's
get to break Reggie and the rest. We'll get to
you guys. Next, we'll continue to talk about the Texans
hiring Nick Kayley as their coordinator. I got some statistics
here on what the Rams do with their offense, and
that's compared to what Bobby Slok and the Texans offense did.
(01:01:23):
So I'll maybe look into what Nick Kayley could bring
here to the Houston Texans. That's next. The Shawn Salisbury
Show continued talking about Nick Kayley being hired. Reggie, You're
up first, good morning.
Speaker 11 (01:01:39):
Hey, good morning guys. Gone good man, Say Sean, I
want to this is my question. It doesn't hurt when
you are alumna the same university as the GM right
when you're getting a job, Michael Rick.
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
I don't think it hurts at all because it's familiar. Yeah,
I don't think it. And then they that that John
Caryl group you feel like they've had Yeah, they feel
like they've had some success.
Speaker 4 (01:02:06):
So it doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
But yes, there's no doubt that familiarity and where they
come from does come into play for some for sure.
Speaker 11 (01:02:13):
And I agree with John and your last caller. And
my question for you is what is the best system
for CJ? You coach, you train quarterbacks? What is the
ideal offense for CJ. Straw Because with the terraces and
all that, And I'm gonna go off a little bit,
but man, I'm still Brian trying to consider if I'm
(01:02:35):
gonna pay that price for those season tickets I have
because everything is going up. I saw something on social
media where they were at the Rockets game in New
York and the beer, I mean one bottle of water
was I think twelve thirteen dollars for a bottle of water.
And I'm not gonna sit in the stadium where the
unproven commodity again. I mean, it's just getting to the
(01:02:58):
point where you have the way out to options with
what we're being presented with. And I hope the Texans
are listening, which they are because they have that station
on their radios on all the station listening and critiquing
who's saying what. But well, the price is that I'm
thinking they gonna ask this year along for those tickets.
(01:03:18):
It's gonna way heavy on me because I wanted a
splash like what's your last call? And everybody else is
thinking like, I mean, I don't understand it. It just
helped me understand what's the best offensive? CJ and I'll
get off of listening.
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Well, My thing is, I think, see there's certain quarterbacks
that I think travel does that make sense? Travel to
the point of now you're gonna do everything you can
to keep them out of any weakness they may have.
I don't think CJSA put it this way. A lot
of offenses will change for the quarterback as opposed to
(01:03:52):
the quarterback changing for the You'll get a guy who
accentuates the talents and skill sets, which is your number
one porty and winning, Obviously you've got a better chance.
And when the quarterback's comfortable and doing his thing, I
think this offense fits him extremely well. I would like
them to add a little more vertical push to it.
I don't want to get into a fade throwing contest
where everything we do push, push, push down the field.
(01:04:13):
I think the next level and why this is good
and personnel will matter is the ability to now listen
Nick Cayley's passing game coordinator. They love to rip the
ball down the field with Matt Stafford, but what did
Stafford get great at possession football? At this stage of
his career. He could still make that the tight window
throw as good as anybody in the league. But when
you get Nikoua and Cooper Cup, they learned how to
(01:04:38):
make the simple stuff. I think that for me is
the next level to his game. So the system fits it.
Look at San Francisco, the Rams, look around the Vikings.
Look what they did to Sam Darnold. You got to
take your shots, and you cannot be afraid as a
coordinator to fail at that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
Meaning.
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
It's just like the run game. If you run the football,
if you're a guy that goes three and out, three
and out and you abandoned the run game. I don't
need that my system. I think for me, the next
one is getting mix in more involved like you would
Christian McCaffrey. He's not McCaffrey, but you do need him
involved in different areas and deploy him a whole bunch
of different ways. I think that adds bandwidth your offense.
Speaker 6 (01:05:14):
For me.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
The next stroud just continuing one, it's going to be
personnel up front, protect him so he doesn't become a
bailer where he's watching the pass rush and got to
get out. I like vertical attack, aggressive. I've said it
all along. Give me an aggressive play caller, but give
me a guy who if the if they're playing a
defense that takes away like two over the top or
(01:05:34):
two high safeties where there have been but don't break defense.
You got to bend with them. And the way you
bend with him is the Drew Brees approach. Listen, do
you look at Sean Payton as a conservative play caller?
Sean Payton, Yes, yeah, you do know you do? You
look at Sean Payton. I'm talking about Peyton right now,
(01:05:55):
I'm good. I think about bow Nicks, he's got to
get dyg. But the great thing about Sean Payton was
Drew Brees was limited vertically, especially later in his career.
Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
So what did he do?
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Took the shots when necessary, but he made sure the
shallow cross and the mesh play all the simple stuff.
With Drew Brees's accuracy, then you get so tired of
you squeeze. Then you get the ball up down the field.
You don't have to have big arm strength. So I
know what Stroud's got with the vertical game. I want
to take a little bit out of the Sean McVeigh,
(01:06:29):
but also the Sean Payton part of it that Nick
Hayley study those things that allow you to win games.
When they decide you're not getting by me down the field,
you can still be aggressive throwing six yard routes.
Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
So I think the next step for CJ.
Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Strouds is to take I don't think it's a weakness,
but to take the fact that it's okay to go
twenty five of thirty two for two hundred and twenty
yards and still be aggressive. So the deployment, I need
a guy who's willing to add deploy players and expand
pre snap stuff for CJ. Stroud, put it in his lap,
(01:07:06):
allow him to do it, but also be able to
win games by just doing the easy things for four
quarters if it's necessary. And Sean Payton does a great
He had Drew Brees, he adjusted to breeze strengths with
what accuracy, so he called plays and put him in position.
It's the same thing. Now he's got bon Nicks, who
a little stronger arm, younger guy, but also great feet.
(01:07:27):
So what have you how many times he run our
po with with Drew Brees with bo Nicks a lot bingo.
So that's the adjustment. I'm talking about aggressive, but the
ability to beat you.
Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
It's like a team.
Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
And we said, can you mud around and beat somebody
when you're not playing your best in basketball in a
low scoring game like Kelvin's teams. Well, I got news
for you. When you can do that, there's no defense
that takes you out of what you want to do.
So let me read some numbers for you real quick.
Eleven personnel for Houston this past season, so people understand
what that means. That's one back, one tight end, three
(01:08:01):
wide receivers.
Speaker 4 (01:08:01):
Okay, Houston offense sixty two point six percent of the time,
LA meaning the Rams where Nick Haley's coming from, eighty
two point four percent, twelve personnel, thirty one point five
percent for the Rams, fifteen point five percent.
Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
That's they feel like they don't have a second tight
end shotgun formation you'll like or they're not going to
use that second tight end.
Speaker 4 (01:08:22):
I say shotgunformation, you're like this one fifty six point
five percent for Houston, forty one point three percent for
LA under center for the Texans, thirty nine point six percent,
forty four point one percent for LA. Motion sixty nine
point seven percent for the Texans, eighty two point one
percent for the Rams, motion at snap thirty four percent
(01:08:45):
for the Texans, seventy one percent for the Rams.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
So basically, what I'm telling you and what you're telling
me is exactly what we talk about. Yeah, my type
of guy, And what do I always tell you? Be
multiple All that motion and all that movement creates deception
and indecision by a defense being stationary, and you know what,
(01:09:09):
we're so gun happy. And also now take Joe Mixon
where we can run. You're in the gun, but you're
also under center. More it adds a different it's not
just our it adds a different version of play action,
stretch play action, and I think that would be a
strength for for.
Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
Stroud.
Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
And we don't need him to use his feet ten
times a game four or five broke. But once in
a while you may call a design quarterback draw when
you empty the backfield of the seven yard line and
they play man, why do you so?
Speaker 4 (01:09:35):
People say why so much motion?
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
The majority of time when you motion somebody and somebody
follows them, it's already told you pre snap. Now we've
designed it where I know it's man coverage ninety. There
are some little motion with them and then play zone
and audible in the middle of the motion on defense.
But the multiple part of looking at you it's right
there in the And who's in charge of the past
(01:09:59):
game It was Nick Cayley. So I'm a big shift movement,
window dressing, motion, pre snap. Motion at the snap one
is when you motion at the snap, you don't give
somebody a chance on the defense to grab your guy
at the line of scrimmage. Two is when I'm move
in motion, I'm making it clear cut for the quarterback.
You getting manners own, which you've already got a head.
(01:10:21):
So that's what made Brady so good. Brady wasn't more
gifted than Josh Allen. Brady just knew pre snap and
so did Peyton Manning or they were going with the
ball why because they shift and move. McDaniels did it
all the time. Peyton Manning's team with the Colts did
it all the time. Move around under center, get in
the gun and create a bigger bandwidth just before the
(01:10:43):
ball snapped, let alone when it snapped. So I would
love if we had a guy that didn't just line
up and say we're in the gun all the time,
we're at our center all the time, or we're just
gonna we're just gonna line up and we're not gonna
move much. Yeah, I think you make it much. Listen
when when you motion for me and run a guy across. Now,
I've already now I'm seventy five percent of the way there.
(01:11:06):
Now i just got to execute the throw and get
to the right guy. Because Zoner Man knowing that pre
snap is such a huge advent. If you know on
defense that they're running stretch play and you got a
strong safety blitz running right into it, isn't that an advantage?
So why wouldn't it be an advantage? If I know
you're running with my guy across the formation, it's man coverage.
It just takes decision. It takes clutter out of the
(01:11:28):
quarterback's head. Please Nick Kayley come here and overload us
with movement formations, personnel groupings and pre and at the
snap motion. I'm big on it and I've always been.
And then you can run, dude, twelve fifteen plays, you know,
many of them, just formation, make them all look different
(01:11:49):
and it looks like we're running seventy five different places
and you're not. And then you could execute what you
do great, just different bodies doing it.
Speaker 4 (01:11:56):
I want to make sure to give credit where credits
due with those numbers that I read that's from Techon's
cap on Twitter. Uh No count does phenomenal stuff when
it comes to contract data trades. I mean everything you
call cap or no cap at Texans cap no cap
no cap on a stack for real, for real?
Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
Well, you gotta yeke up a little bit. What do
you say, yam when you.
Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
Hit like triple He's about to say something.
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
He's probably looking at you like you're tripping.
Speaker 4 (01:12:28):
My shoes are tired, though, dog, I got my luggage packed.
Shoes are tied. Luggage.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Brother, who sings that song?
Speaker 6 (01:12:34):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
What straight off the door?
Speaker 6 (01:12:36):
Is? That?
Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
Is that freestyle? A little bit?
Speaker 5 (01:12:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:12:39):
Nice? Okay, I feel you? You're feeling it or I
feel you?
Speaker 12 (01:12:43):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
Yeah? Oh yeah you feel me big? You feel you
big time? Oh yeah? That big?
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
A little pause there, yeah, well that's not a coverboard.
Speaker 4 (01:12:53):
Strong with you man a lot? Yeah? Yeah, seven seven
niney is the number to join. Get back out to
the phone lines and we will continue to talk about
Nick Kayley. With all that motion, it makes the wide
receiver position that much more important. They need to go
get somebody this offseason. Who could it be? That's next?
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:13:18):
That's goodiful.
Speaker 5 (01:13:21):
Hello Brandon, Hi Ryan, Hi Sean?
Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
How are you guys?
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
Good buddy?
Speaker 5 (01:13:27):
So I'm gonna watch the the Houston One today? And
what time?
Speaker 11 (01:13:37):
What time is?
Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
What time is it is gonna be playing? You know?
Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
Brandon? Uh, Let's let's go ahead and ask that Amazon
you got there, buddy, Hello, they'll tell you the time.
Did you watch the Rockets game last night?
Speaker 6 (01:13:53):
The first quarter?
Speaker 5 (01:13:54):
I did?
Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
That's it?
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
Yep, I I went first quarter, uh huh, and.
Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
I was eating dinner when it was night. I forgot
to turn it back on.
Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
You forget Brandon? Come on, dog, it's like four times now, Sean,
how are we forgetting?
Speaker 12 (01:14:17):
What do we gotta do?
Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
Brandon?
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
I'm with Brandon. Sometimes it just happens. Sometimes you get caught.
Sometimes you get caught up in the vitals, You get
caught up in eating and all of a sudden, next thing,
you know, old Jed's a millionaire. Okay, the game's over.
What do we say it's takes his time eating his meal?
Speaker 4 (01:14:31):
How many times? How many sample sizes do we have
to have for it to become What do we say?
It's not a this is a pattern, it's a trend. Trend? Yeah?
Is it a trend?
Speaker 6 (01:14:40):
Or is it?
Speaker 4 (01:14:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
Hey listen, I'm forgetting it's not a trend. Sometimes sometimes
you gotta throw down some vidles.
Speaker 4 (01:14:46):
What what what we eat last night? Brand? What was
for dinner?
Speaker 8 (01:14:49):
My mom named me chicken?
Speaker 4 (01:14:52):
You love my man? Is a chicken out, little white
sauce chicken out?
Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Freddo Yeah, I can see how that would sidetrack you
from watching hoops? Are you I'm on Brando's side.
Speaker 4 (01:15:03):
Unbelievable man, Well, Brandon, the Cougars they start at seven
o'clock tonight, buddy, all right, but don't don't forget.
Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
You Maybe maybe have you ever tasted leftover chicken?
Speaker 4 (01:15:14):
Alfredo? Yeah, I'm Italian of great man Brandon. Don't forget
the game tonight, all right, buddy, all right, we'll talk
to you tomorrow. What do you think do you? Speaking
of Brandon?
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
I was thinking about ye, what do you think he's
doing today? You know, after the Grammy, what do you
think he's doing?
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
Him and his wife Bianca were at the after party
the other night. So was she dressed? She was dressed?
She was they make love? You think after that night?
After that night?
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Yeah, you think they made love? Or you think he
was mad? No, I hope he's bing it out.
Speaker 4 (01:15:44):
You know, you did make it? Do you think he
wanted to do?
Speaker 2 (01:15:47):
You think he wanted her at the thing to just
tease a little bit, keep the jacket on, and when
she took it off, he got jealous that all the
people are looking at his zoid.
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
No, I mean his wife. I think playing that he did, Yeah,
a little like I think he's got I think he's
got a screw shock value little yeah, a little little dog.
What about ye though, I'm like, what do I think he?
Speaker 6 (01:16:09):
Is?
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
That his name?
Speaker 6 (01:16:10):
Now?
Speaker 4 (01:16:10):
Yeah? I mean is he switched it around? Did you
see his Twitter rant that he went on the night before. No,
he said he wanted to dude, I gotta find really
paid attention to it. Did you see it?
Speaker 5 (01:16:21):
You believed?
Speaker 4 (01:16:22):
Oh my god?
Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
Well it's unfortunately for him it's become oh here we
go again, because he always has a rant.
Speaker 4 (01:16:29):
I know what it was. It's ye. I still call
him Kanye, but do we have to him?
Speaker 13 (01:16:33):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (01:16:34):
Now, yeah, he did it right when the trade. The
trade happened, That's what was.
Speaker 11 (01:16:38):
So he went on this.
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
He went on an epic Twitter rant, like the most
random off the wall stuff that you can think of. Right,
but Luca trumped him, and then the Luca trade happened, right,
So listen to this tweet that I can, dude, let
me find it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:52):
You think you think he's a French fresh short of
a happy meal?
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
Yeah you do? Yeah, I think so, he said. He tweeted,
I used to want to f Kamala until she lost.
I don't f losers anymore. And then he changed his
profile picture. So he wanted to make love to her. Yeah,
but he doesn't f losers anymore. Let's and then when.
Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
You're leaving the house and your lady is dressed like that,
you a little bit like, man, this is this is odd?
Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
And then he tweeted out quote, the Democrats made me
take the loser post down. Now I'm kidding. They don't
control black people no more that I like.
Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
I like calling him ye instead of Kanye. O. Man,
where where does the ye come from? Do we know
the origination? But that's hell, it'szy. Oh so that's why
he named his name after Yeezy. Yeah, yeah, all right.
I thought he just took the y e at the
end of his name and decided to call himself ye.
Oh you probably that is that's right part of it too.
Speaker 13 (01:17:57):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
Maybe it's maybe it's a combo plate. Okay, so you
think so you think you had that outfit plan for mama. Yes,
she wasted no time. But imagine imagine if she didn't
have like the quality of upper body strinth that she does,
(01:18:21):
that she was. Imagine she was a pirate's dream, a
sunken chest. Yeah, imagine no, not the not the no,
not sunken. But like imagine if they were like you
mean they're just ugly, yeah, like yeah, yeah, you know
what I mean, like like like salami like pancakes.
Speaker 1 (01:18:38):
Pancakes.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
Yeah yeah, no, no thanks, like to fall out and
play soccer? Why would you? Why would you?
Speaker 2 (01:18:44):
I mean you're probably not going to show them if
they're if they're if they're if they're wearing them as
a as a belt, okay, as a as a belt buckle.
Because they dangled down that far. It's like when that
when somebody has a long ass, you know those ones. Yeah,
you don't have a terrible where it starts at there
like the uh the mid part of the uh why
(01:19:07):
am I living between your shoulder blades? Starts to the
shoulder blades and then you go up and you can
slap their calf and you're hitting their ass. You know,
you've got great calves and all of a sudden you're hitting.
That's a bad look the long it really is. It's awful.
But but pancakes ain't good though. If you double down
and go pancake and long ass stay dressed, and you
(01:19:30):
get what what is it that that?
Speaker 14 (01:19:32):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
They they are where to pull that that thing out
that or the push up of the ass thing. You
know that they that they bring it up a little bit.
You know those yoga pants that make it. They can
make any ass look good. Yeah apparently, Yeah, it's uh
flat ass and then throw some yeasys on. Come on
now you're a big guy. Now, I love you.
Speaker 4 (01:19:52):
You've been saying for the last Wait, if you know something?
Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Yeah, I just want you to tell me about you,
if you if you want to laugh or wonder what's
going on with your day, knowing your day is better
than his. Yeah, I mean, just you can follow him
on Twitter. He'll give you some stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:20:11):
You will.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
Now there's there is uh, there's some interesting to Kamala.
Huh yeah great, yeah, no, very random, he says out
of nowhere. But he doesn't make love to losers. I
don't what makes and I think I'm gonna post that today. Okay, okay, yeah, no,
what makes a guy say that?
Speaker 8 (01:20:32):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:20:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:20:33):
You know what?
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
Freedom of speech? I guess yes, Manea interesting, yep, he's
definitely what did you say, a couple couple of fries
short of a happy meal? Probably a couple of them,
and still gets the toy he does. There you go.
He sure does. Hey, let's get in the eight o'clock hour.
There's a big time defensive end that wants out. Who
is that's next?
Speaker 9 (01:20:55):
A Houston HD Houston I Heart Radio station, the Astros,
the Rockets, Rockets your home for your home teams.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Salisbury, Oldbury, Susbury, Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Okay, let's do this. Shawn Salisbury to usc true longtime friend,
Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewn Salisbury Show, Rockets, fall.
Speaker 4 (01:21:32):
Of the Knicks. Texans got a new offensive coordinator. It's
Nick Kayley. Coog's host in Oklahoma State tonight at the
Fertita Center. You gotta get out there and watch those coogs.
Speaker 5 (01:21:41):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:21:42):
Man, they's some bawlers.
Speaker 2 (01:21:46):
They might be requiring a futures national championship bet here coming.
Speaker 4 (01:21:49):
Up number five in the land. Man, Auburn's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
They're okay, SEC's pretty good, dude. The University of Houston's
pretty good. So yeah, they coming off a tough lost.
Texas Tech beat U of h over the weekend. YEP,
tough tough one. But man, Texas Tech's pretty good too,
so they're gonna have the losses like that that happen
(01:22:14):
every year to most teams in the country. We don't
have teams going defeated very often. It's been a long time.
Speaker 4 (01:22:21):
Auburn twenty and one, Duke nineteen and two, Duke Duke
is Duke is just cruising man. Cooper Flag's really good.
Alabama nineteen and three, Tennessee eighteen and four, the Cougars
seventeen and four, Florida eighteen and three. I mean, do
you just look at the SEC man this season? They
are unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
That's so much for it being a football conference only, right, Hey,
do you think when they recruited Cooper Flag?
Speaker 4 (01:22:47):
Did they.
Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
When they signed him that Duke put out a post
that said, we captured the Flag? Do you ever play
that game growing up? Or you don't know anything about that,
did you?
Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
Okay, do you think you put that out there?
Speaker 4 (01:23:00):
Yeah? I don't know why more kids don't play now, dude,
we used to. I'll go play right now.
Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
I agree as an adult. Yeah, we need to capture
the flag, Lade. It would be awesome. Yeah, it'd take
over pickleball.
Speaker 4 (01:23:11):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (01:23:11):
Yeah, But do you think that they put that out
we captured the flag?
Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
I doubt it.
Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
I doubt it too. They're not as clever as well.
They missed out though, you know what I'm saying, they
missed out. Yep. Let's see looking at just these standing
I mean even in the Big twelve, Cougar's number five, Ohio,
it's not Ohio State, Iowa State number eight, Kansas number sixteen,
Texas Tech thirteen, Arizona twenty. And then you get down
(01:23:38):
to the SEC and they are just absolutely a load
excuse me loaded. Auburn number one, Alabama number three, Tennessee
number four, Gators, the Florida Gators, number six, Missouri number fifteen,
A and M number ten, Ole, miss number twenty five,
Kentucky number fourteen, Mississippi State number twenty two.
Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
It's it's been an epic year for the SEC basketball wise, soulness. Now,
you know, we would it be a trip if somehow,
some way you ended up with four SEC teams in
the final four.
Speaker 4 (01:24:13):
That'd be why can you imagine?
Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
I mean, the chances, the chances exist, yeah, depending on
what region they send them all to, right, And obviously
we don't want that in the University of Houston. We
want SEC teams there, but you want that region to
be Cougar's when it gets to the final four. But
it's an impressive, impressive run. And the way they're playing.
Speaker 4 (01:24:32):
Basketball this year, that conference is loaded. Well you're not kidding.
Seven three two, seven ninety is the number to join Ray.
Good morning, Hey.
Speaker 6 (01:24:43):
Guys, good morning. You mentioned earlier about a defensive end
wanting to be traded. I mean, I know that's Miles
Garrett that you guys are talking about. Uh, any chance
the Texans can get them. I mean playing in the
hometown team would be a good selling point to them. Uh.
The other question I have and then I'll get off
because I know I only got a minute. Any news
(01:25:05):
on Tank Dell or if he's has the ability to
come back, or is his career over?
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
I I no news, no recent news obvious that it's
going to take more than what one surgery to get
through this. He's had multiple ones. Yeah, and who knows
if it's done. I don't think he's going to be
ready to play this year, but I'm not a doctor.
We tried not to play him on radio, but I
I personally think that.
Speaker 6 (01:25:30):
That.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
I mean, there's no way anybody's calling his career over.
It's going to be challenging. But I don't think right now,
with the way modern medicine and medical and recovery and
these athletes that are so gifted and he's a hard worker,
I pray it's not.
Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
But he already set himself that he's playing again.
Speaker 2 (01:25:48):
Yeah, I don't, but you know what he can say it.
But if you know, he got to get cleared and
go through. Hey, Alex Smith got back on the field
after that gruesome injury, right, So my Mike know, gut wise,
just from a distance, if he wants to come back,
with his dedication and with good, good doctors and good rehab,
I would I would think that he'll play get I
(01:26:10):
would not count on him this year. Yeah he's no,
I don't see how that happens. That'd be that'd be
kind of freakish to be able to come back from
all that and unfortunate on a great play. It ends
like that with his own teammate. I mean when I
say ends like that puts him out for a while.
He's been through some adversity. There will be nothing on
the field when he gets back after two years of event.
(01:26:31):
Two injuries and two years have ended his season, this
one obviously worse than the first one. There's nothing on
the field that this dude will be afraid of, not
that he ever was. When he comes back, and I'm
sure he's counting those blessings every day. But he'll work,
so I think he'll be back. And as far as
Miles Garrett goes, you know, can you afford him salary wise?
Speaker 4 (01:26:51):
I'm greedy, I you know, I would.
Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
That's not going to be a priority because it's so
you'd probably have to give up one if your guys
to go get him. Wouldn't they love to have Will
Anderson on a rookie contract for Miles Garrett. But I
don't think this will be his destination because you've got
edge rushers, even though it'd be great to have, I
don't that's that that won't be a play a point
of I don't think of emphasis to get a guy
(01:27:15):
that good. Although there's very few sacred cows in the
league when it comes to football players on the field,
he's in the category that he's that good.
Speaker 4 (01:27:24):
Yeah, he is that good.
Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
There'll be a long line of people trying to that
have more money under the cap, have more need at
edge rusher than the Texans.
Speaker 4 (01:27:33):
Yeah, Miles Garrett yesterday releasing a statement saying, as a
kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was
the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl, and that
goal fuels me more today than ever. My love for
the community of northeast Ohio and the incredible fan base
of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the
toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have
shaped me into the man than I am today. While
(01:27:54):
I've loved calling this city my home, I desire to
win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me
to be complacent. The goal was never to go from
Cleveland to Canton. It has always been to compete and
win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have
requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns. Signed Miles
Garrett number ninety five. I don't blame him, Sean. I
(01:28:15):
know we talk about player empowerment and guys requesting trades.
I don't blame him in this situation. I think the
Cleveland Browns are a poorly ran organization. I think that
everything that has come with acquiring Deshaun Watson from the
Texans and everything the fallout from that two hundred and
(01:28:36):
thirty million dollars. They are in cap hell when it
comes to the financial situation. I don't blame him, I
really don't. Dude's been unbelievable. He's gonna be a Hall
of Famer someday. He's had one little blip on the
radar where he took his helmet across Mason Rudolph's head.
But other than that, this dude has showed up and
(01:28:58):
busted his ass for that organization. And they're not gonna
win a championship. They're ain't gonna get close. They don't
have a quarterback. I would, I would. I do not
blame him.
Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
If you listen with you, you mentioned player empowerment. It
seems these days when you request something, they just decide
to do it for you. He's gonna win a super
Bowl somewhere else if he if he's gonna win one,
it ain't gonna be there. No, it's not not, not
while he's in his prime. That organization is and I
feel I do. I feel bad for fans because I
love the Cleveland Browns fans.
Speaker 6 (01:29:29):
I do.
Speaker 2 (01:29:29):
I think it's a good sports town, underrated sports town.
I can tell you this, though, that organization is too dysfunctional.
Speaker 4 (01:29:36):
To win right now. Way dysfunctional. Yeah, in fact that
Andrew Barry still has a job is just ridiculous, absolutely
ridiculous and has them agreeing on all that money to
Deshaun Watson. Is his story in itself. Yeah, it'll be
something that they will.
Speaker 2 (01:29:49):
They mean, it's going to take a while to recover
from because he set the franchise back a long ways.
Speaker 4 (01:29:53):
Do you uh did you catch a raw on Netflix
last night? Monday night?
Speaker 6 (01:29:56):
Raw?
Speaker 4 (01:29:56):
Ww?
Speaker 2 (01:29:57):
You know I must have missed I missed that one. Yeah,
my bad, I'm a to miss that. Well it was
in Ohio, so, uh, here's a man. Miles Garrett was
a running joke last night on that broadcast. So that's
how it sounded.
Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
Some of y'all are buoying. You're booing. People who boo
the truth are called hiers. A matter of fact, you're
booing this like we want to be here anyway.
Speaker 15 (01:30:21):
No, no, no, we we can't wait for get the
hell out of Cleveland, just like mal Garrett.
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:30:31):
Wow, that's that's that cuts deep. That's former w W
champion Kofe Kingston dropping that bar.
Speaker 2 (01:30:41):
Yeah, that's that's uh, I know all about what's the
kofe kofee Kingston, kofee Kingston.
Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
You gotta give it to him. That's a pretty good
h Live line right there, right to and in Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
Who don't know who he is?
Speaker 6 (01:30:52):
Though?
Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
Yeah they're bad. No, it's not bad. Okay, well you
don't watch wrestling, so yeah, that's a good point. I'll
start watching the events.
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
I am gonna start watching them. I'm gonna be a
rest On guy. Did you just did you just throw
crunk out? Did you just come with the crunk car?
Okay you said? I said, Okay, I got you. I
I'm gonna start watching uh w w oh yeah, I'm
gonna start getting into it.
Speaker 4 (01:31:16):
No, I think it's awesome. Take me to a new level.
Can't wait. Yep, that's what I'm gonna start doing. Joe
Testa Tour is now part of w W as an
announcer Pat McAfee as well.
Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
Oh yeah there Joe's big McAfee right yeah, Joe test
Tour O. Yeah, okay, YEA love it? Want you Pat?
These nuts?
Speaker 1 (01:31:40):
Really?
Speaker 5 (01:31:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:31:41):
Really? Where did that fit in Shahn Salisbury show?
Speaker 2 (01:31:45):
Showdy's nuts in their forehead?
Speaker 4 (01:31:48):
How's that? See? I'm Brian o'leman now there you go.
There you go.
Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
Apparently there's another big name star in sports that could
be traded and the Rockets have plications. We want to
talk about that one.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
I want to talk about it all. I want to
talk about all of it. Okay, who could it be?
Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
Let's talk about that next right here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety. But before we get to that, aqueduct
plumbing locally on family own and operated, friendly and audis
is transparent. You need transparency when a contractor comes in
and works on your home and aqueduct plumbing. Not only
are they transparent, they are the Houston experts when it
comes to completing any plumbing job that you need, like
(01:32:29):
larger small fossil repairs, drainage issues, tankless water heaters, tunnel jobs,
or whole house repiping. They even do commercial and residential
new construction. With the whole house repiping. They've done thousands
of thousands of these jobs. And they replace that old
school piping with PEX piping. That PEX piping is not
going to bust in a freeze, and that means you
have peace of mind that your most valuable asset, your home,
(01:32:51):
will not be without water a subject to very costly
restoration resulting from leaks. Speaking of leaks, they have leaked
detection remodels and sewer jobs. Aqueduct Plumbing Company dot com
is the website. They've been here in the city since
the eighties. They are seasoned, they are the best and
you need to give them a shout to eight one
four eight eight six two three eight two eight one
(01:33:13):
four eight eight six two three eight Aqueduct Plumbing Company
dot Com for all your plumbing needs. Aqueduct Plumbing Companies
at your disposal.
Speaker 1 (01:33:22):
More Sean Salisbury, get in, strap in and write in.
Speaker 4 (01:33:30):
Golf attire every day? Well, yeah, every day?
Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
Well when you wear a big, thick waffle hoodie, that's
not a golf attire with a pair of you.
Speaker 4 (01:33:37):
Ever seen a j You ever seen Jason Day?
Speaker 5 (01:33:40):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
I love that?
Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
Come on, mane, it's become golf a tier. So yeah,
I'm addressed for it. A little powder blue and shirt
with a little print on it.
Speaker 4 (01:33:49):
You know you feel me? I know you feel me. Dog,
don't don't show Amy's shrunk Adams your outfit. She'll freak
send you a cease and desist. Why she's the owner
of the uh Titans. I know the all the time
because I'm wearing the powder blue.
Speaker 6 (01:34:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:34:04):
Well, guess what, You're right, get right. You can't say it. No,
you can't put respect on the older folk. Okay if
it was oh yeah, yeah, respect yeah, put respect.
Speaker 4 (01:34:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
But yeah, I'm ready to go, man. I I mean
I'm ready to throw it at the pin if I
need to.
Speaker 4 (01:34:24):
You're actually going to throw the golf ball, throw it
at the pin.
Speaker 2 (01:34:26):
You're going to throw the No, I gotta work on
you know, I gotta work on a consistent so I
can work the consistent ball.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
Flight right, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
Yeah, flight path, man, Yeah, and to be you know,
sometimes you gotta you gotta sometimes you gotta, you know,
flight your ball down a little bit in the wind.
Yesterday the wind was howling in the afternoon.
Speaker 4 (01:34:47):
It was Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
So, I mean, I could do golf talk all day,
but you know, I don't want. I don't think I
don't want to with details. I can talk golf for
I can do a four hour golf show a day and.
Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Have plenty of content. You know. I love you, man,
but I'm not tuning.
Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
That's exactly right. That's hence why we don't do it.
They need to put me out like an analyst in
the golf channel after the show. You know what I'm saying, dude,
like twice a week. If they're doing if they're letting
Charles Barkley do that, why can't very well because I'm
not chasm right. I mean, he pulls a lot away.
But if you're just looking for good analysis, just ask me. Yeah,
I'll give you some good golf liking go. I could
(01:35:21):
talk it as good as I talk it, but I'm
getting I'm getting closer. It'll be uh, it'll be a
good twenty twenty five. But from a golf game. There
you go, though, especially when I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:35:33):
Carrying your bag.
Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
Yeah, I feel you, dog, Yeah, I feel you. I'm
I'm a streaky golfer. I'll go four holes, right man,
I'm really and then all the tools. I don't even
recognize this. Yeah we're four under, and next thing you know,
we're two over. Yeah yeah, that's exactly right. Snap hooking,
just slogg in my right hand. That didn't sound right.
But yeah, yeah, high cut, but high cut when I
(01:35:55):
need a dog what I need to draw?
Speaker 4 (01:35:56):
Next thing, you know, we're in the fscue.
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
Yeah, we're pissed, and then I'm but I'm a real
a good, bad, live player because I live there, so
I can hit.
Speaker 4 (01:36:05):
It's about hit it close, make the putt okay, drive
for show, putt for dough. So I always say, let's
talk to well Will talking rockets. What's up Will?
Speaker 5 (01:36:15):
Hey, guys, how are you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:36:16):
Good man? It's on your mind?
Speaker 5 (01:36:18):
I'm hey, Sean man. I'm sure you worked on changing
your ball position, right.
Speaker 2 (01:36:23):
I work on ball position, where to place the ball
and you know, depending on the club and where it's at. Yes,
I do you you're talking about ball position back in
my stands, forward my stands. Yeah, every day, man, every
day to lock you do a pressure packe. Yeah, so
where it doesn't to where the swing doesn't break down
under duress. You know what I'm saying, pressure shots, you
(01:36:44):
can hit him. I'm a high ball hitter, but I'm
learning how to hit the you know, the stinger that
I want to hit and put the ball back in
my stand so I can hit a little load draw.
Speaker 5 (01:36:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
I'm working on it every day, brother.
Speaker 5 (01:36:55):
Good good, Okay. So let's let's go to the proposed
trade you guys talk about. I'm assuming is for Zion Williams.
Speaker 4 (01:37:01):
No, No, absolutely not not for a fat ass.
Speaker 6 (01:37:04):
Okay, no, no, it's I got you.
Speaker 4 (01:37:06):
I'll finish my You want me to tell you my
teams or you want me to want want you to
hang up and listen you you tell me, Okay, let
me get let me give you mine first. Okay, all right?
Speaker 5 (01:37:15):
So I'm times, said the wife last night, We're eating
dinner and we're talking about Luca being traded and all that,
and I told the wife, I said, well, you know,
one of the things is if I'm the Rockets, if
I'm going to make a deal, I would go after Zion.
And basically the Rockets want a few teams to have
the assets to go after Zion. And here's my thought process.
It's gonna probably cost them probably Jabaris Smith can wit
(01:37:38):
more uh two inspiring contracts and two first for Zion.
But this is what this does for me.
Speaker 6 (01:37:45):
I put the Zion on the back line with Alpi, right,
I put them on the backline with Alpi.
Speaker 5 (01:37:51):
That was a great passer. Now you have to deal
with Zion every night, every night, and the problem with Ion,
of course, you got the bag in this same thing
as Luca. You know when Luca got dailed. Everybody's like
Headswood all blew up and I'm going, I don't understand
that stamp for a max contract. They're not gonna get
a guy a max contract. He can't lose weight. They're
not going to do it. Now, that's mad, who's yours?
Speaker 4 (01:38:15):
I we'll tell you here.
Speaker 2 (01:38:16):
We'll appreciate the callment lose weight to where you can
withstand a season and don't fall into the embiid Anthony
Davis category of how many games am I going to
get out of you?
Speaker 4 (01:38:27):
At times?
Speaker 2 (01:38:27):
And maybe it's not fair to him to Zion Williams
because there that mid rage jump shot, he's he's really good. Yeah,
there's no and he can put the ball on the
deck and get to the rim to for a guy
that's that's bringing a trailer with his truck. You know
what I'm saying. Yeah, But I for me, the gifts
(01:38:47):
are not There is no question. I guess, man, it's
probably not fair. But my perception is sometimes I wonder
does he love it?
Speaker 4 (01:38:56):
Is that fair? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:38:58):
I may be completely wrong because there ain't no doubt
in the skill set and like I said, you can
you can and I'll be as a hell of a
passer and he can. I mean, you get the ball,
Zion Williams can score. The question is and listen, if
you told me he's going to play seventy five games
a year and keep his weight reasonable, no disrespect to
(01:39:18):
Jabari Smith and Cam Whitmore, I'm all in, Yeah, not
what we thought when Whitmore and Jabari Smith came here.
We thought a little different, right, right, And maybe and
maybe it's still premature for them, But Zion Williamson's a
gift and so uniquely gifted men. But like a few
of the other big men, we've talked about how often
is he going to be there? And it's not just
the injuries and maybe it lead their hand in hand
(01:39:39):
the reason why. But can he stay healthy? But I
always worry about him in the offseason getting to the
point where he comes back at three bills and it
takes long to get in shape and you're twenty five
games in and he's finally there and he can still
score when he's fat, yep. But I'd prefer it to
be with a pH not at f Yeah, I can.
He's never going to be two twenty No, Okay, He's
(01:40:00):
just not. But he's he's you know, he's got to
he's got to be able to control it where he
doesn't get too comfortable with it. But I'll tell you what,
if you knew you were going to play and he
can control the weight, there's no doubt he's a player.
Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
Yeah. So the the excuse me, the big name that
I read yesterday by Fox Sports, I mean you go
up and down any insider uh in the NBA.
Speaker 6 (01:40:21):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:40:22):
The Phoenix Suns are fielding calls to try and trade
Kevin Durant. Now, obviously the the Rockets on a couple
of different of these you know, projections are the number
one team to try and trade for a guy like
Kevin Durant. You've got so many, so many picks that
you can utilize to trade. You can also package read
(01:40:42):
Shepherd Jabari Smith to go get Kevin Durant again. He's
up in age. But have.
Speaker 2 (01:40:50):
You ever wondered why a good player likes him is
always getting moved?
Speaker 4 (01:40:54):
Yeah? I don't know. He's moved so much.
Speaker 2 (01:40:57):
I've always wondered that is it? Because the contract it's
so big, and you just know he's such a dominating
presence on your team that it kind of takes away
maybe at times from other guys. Yet the guy can
bring it up the court and handle the ball from
the point at his size, and he is such a
phenomenal shooter. Right, Oh yeah, But I always I've wandered
(01:41:17):
this a lot in sports, Why great players get.
Speaker 4 (01:41:21):
Continue to get moved, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:41:23):
It's it's it's weird to me, like this guy's one
of the best we've ever had, yet he's on a
different team all the time. Seems like it is there
is there something that and I don't know the answer.
And I know he's got rabbit ears, and it feels
like a little less rabbit recently. I haven't paid much
attention to Kd's Twitter, but you know over the end
(01:41:43):
years past, there's been he hears everything right, kind of
got a little Lebron James when it comes to rabbit
ears in him. Both great players. But why is it
that a guy like that, they're always willing to trade and.
Speaker 4 (01:41:53):
Move on from him. I don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:41:57):
I'd love that and we'll get an NBA guy on
which we do to the national one. I'd really like
to end local as well. But somebody who's been in
a city where he's been before. You know, maybe somebody
out in Golden State where he had great success or
an OKC or where in Jersey we have Brooklyn, right
wherever he's been. Yeah, and get somebody out to talk
about is there a buzz anywhere about why that great
(01:42:21):
players like that move? I almost feel like great players
like that need to constantly be the Cory team, like
Steph Curry is at Golden State. Why do guys move?
In particular Kevin Durant four or five different teams for
a full blown, dominant championship Hall of Fame career. Now,
he's had to have some good players around him, but
who doesn't.
Speaker 4 (01:42:38):
Oh but did you usual look at his number sean
this season he's quietly just averaging twenty seven point That's
my point. He could do it.
Speaker 2 (01:42:46):
He can score waking up out of bed before he
even brushes his teeth in the morning.
Speaker 4 (01:42:50):
Yeah. So, but that's why.
Speaker 6 (01:42:52):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (01:42:52):
I don't know, man?
Speaker 6 (01:42:53):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (01:42:54):
Because at some point in time, the money's so big
and you still know he's got games, so he can
go get assets under a cheaper You know that you're
paying cheap. You know you milk as much as you
can out of him, and he's still got plenty of game,
and then you go get assets for him, and then
he goes in averages twenty seven for somebody else. There's
something that's bothersome about that to me, that a great
player like that that teams don't hesitate to move him.
Speaker 4 (01:43:18):
It's weird. It is weird. It is weird. I've always
thought that, why is Kevin Durant always come up in
trade talks? It's Kevin Durant, That's what I'm saying. I
don't know, That's what I'm saying. Lebron moved a lot
because Lebron wanted to, and maybe Katie does too. But
when when you're up and moving him and trade him
all the time, what's missing that you don't want to
keep him in the building all the time. Is it
(01:43:40):
simply the money and you can get assets for When
you look at the guy who's he's been traded for
over the court, think about all the assets Kevin Durant's
been traded for in his career.
Speaker 2 (01:43:50):
It's a trip, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (01:43:51):
It's nuts.
Speaker 2 (01:43:52):
I mean, pick after me if you talk about me.
It's a litany of players it's just it's it's weird
to me or picks or players that why a guy
that good continues to be on the moving market.
Speaker 4 (01:44:04):
Yeah, it's weird. It is weird. Seven one, three, two
two five, seven ninety is the number. Two joints continue
on right here on seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
Witsdvision dot com. Doctor Jeff witztit at witsudvision dot com.
W h I T S E T T the very
best listen.
Speaker 4 (01:44:16):
I don't uh.
Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
And once again, I was a a patient before I
was speaking on behalf of one of the greats and
one of our great consistent guys here at the station
at Sports Talk seven ninety love doctor WHITSTT And I'm
so grateful because man, fortunately and hopefully you got two
of them. But they are precious, and it's nerve wracking
(01:44:38):
when somebody's gonna take a laser to your eyes, you think,
oh my gosh, this is invasive. Quite the opposite. You
got a doctor who's awesome, the latest and greatest equipment
that's off the charts. You put them both together equals results.
And I got mine done, no glasses, no context. The
aftercare was off the charts. I wasn't on the table
long and whether it's working out a payment plan, getting
(01:44:59):
the right deal for you, because they always got something
going on at wits Vision for you. Pop on it
and see him, give him a call and set up
your free consultation. Seven one three three sixty five ninety
seven ninety nine. Seven one three three sixty five ninety
seven ninety nine. His reputation about how good he is
comes long before you even get to go and lay
(01:45:22):
on that table, and he will walk you through every
step to make it easy and to make it understandable,
and also to make you comfortable when you're on that table,
and man, you'll be glad you did it. It's wits
it Vision dot com, Doctor Jeff witsit at witsit Vision
dot Com. That's wits it Vision dot Com. The very
best I had to that the Shawn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (01:45:45):
When they were when they were all going and.
Speaker 2 (01:45:50):
You know John Bonham was the drummer and they had
their group together and you had, you know, opportunities when
I was going through, you know, younger in high school
and invited to at the time, you're like another time,
and man, don't another time you got an opportunity to
go see them. I've I've made a goal, you know,
you put stuff down and bucket list stuff. I'm going
to more concerts this year. Yeah, a lot more. If
(01:46:12):
that means following a group out of state that I
want in an individual or a band, I'm going to
more consciously. I every time I go to a concert,
I'm as happy as a pig and crap, and then
I think, why don't I go to more? And with
Dorothy Woods pavilion, I wish they build something like that
out isn't Dorothy not Dorothy Woods, Dorothy what is it called?
Speaker 4 (01:46:29):
Not Dorothy?
Speaker 1 (01:46:30):
What is it called?
Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
What's the Woodsia? Cynthia Woods. There's a Dorothy Woods, Dorothia Woods. Yeah,
that goes to Tammes. I've been there.
Speaker 6 (01:46:38):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:46:38):
I thought I thought you were going to go into
some kind of joke. No, no, no, no, Cynthia Woods,
Dorothy Wood, Cynthia Woods. Who's counting the Woods Pavilion.
Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
I wish they'd have something like that out in the full,
you know, like something a smaller venue, although you get
a little bit of that home run dugout, which we've
I've been to a fun concert.
Speaker 4 (01:46:52):
Yeah, I finally got to go there two weeks ago
Man and they've expanded.
Speaker 2 (01:46:55):
Yeah, apparently they've got more real more property out there
right by it.
Speaker 4 (01:46:58):
Yeah, and so I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
And I'm going to go to more concerts this year.
I used to go to a lot more, and I've
kind of let that slack, even though you know, I
love music. I'm gonna take the time and even travel
to see him in good venues like Red Rocks and
place like that. But yeah, it's one of my disappointments
in life of music wise for sure, that I didn't
see led Zeppelin when they were all in their prime
(01:47:21):

can do what I'm gonna give you during this show.
A little watermelon moonshine right tell him to get some

Speaker 12 (01:50:26):
Got a seltzer, I will put it down and get
me some watermelon moonshine.
Speaker 4 (01:50:34):
There you go and she and she kicks it right.
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
You want to talk about a long ass day? No,
but you look at old school things. Just hold on
to that, hold on to the old school. I think
that we saw her in the wrong pants that one time.
I think I think you saw her like it felt
like wearing swede. Yeah, some for her like the PhD
(01:50:59):
very use some squads. See you are a little fatter version.
Speaker 4 (01:51:01):
If you're losing weight, still do your squats? You want
to lunch? Are you asking for two season? Lady?
Speaker 9 (01:51:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:51:08):
What I do?
Speaker 4 (01:51:12):
What do you guys? Ask?
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
Ask the crowd what they think about her? And ask them,
you guys think I look to ask the crowd. She's
a yeah, she's like, I mean, she's she's she's had
a little watermelonon. She wants to have the crowd. Crowd
feels about her losing some of her her lower her
lower half.
Speaker 4 (01:51:26):
Who's a fan of my zippic out there in the one.
Speaker 12 (01:51:33):
Well, you can see the effect of that on me.
I lost it in the bet. You used to have
some mars. You know you thought Dolly Barton was good?
Wait two weeket all for by you?
Speaker 1 (01:51:44):
L one two, one, two, three four you know four
by four by you?
Speaker 12 (01:51:50):
Man?
Speaker 9 (01:51:51):
Bye?
Speaker 1 (01:51:51):
You two can talk God.
Speaker 4 (01:51:55):
There you go. Oh gosh, I like that fun around here.
I'll be I'll be on tour with Cody Johnson starting
next week. All right, we'll be sinking four by four
by you with the Bible.
Speaker 5 (01:52:06):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (01:52:07):
You gotta love CJ though my first reponders, why are
you such a door? I'm an idiot, but I freaking
love it.
Speaker 4 (01:52:18):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
You got a lady, you got you got code?
Speaker 4 (01:52:22):
Oh man A thirty eight special coming back man hold
on Lucy is one of my favorites. By them, who else?
What do they got? Fortunate sons? A good one. I
got some bangers out there now, you sure do under
rated bangers.
Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
Roger, Roger, I'm not really pitting now, but I got perspiration,
as they call it, on my forehead. Oh, you're so stupid.
Speaker 4 (01:52:48):
You know it is Super Bowl week, by the way,
I've heard of it. Roger Goode spoke to the media yesterday,
and you know it's just this dude, just more gimmicks.
They're a bit delusional, they are, Yeah, just more gimmicks.
What is what did Roger Goodell have to say?
Speaker 5 (01:53:02):
Now?
Speaker 4 (01:53:03):
That's next. This Sean Salisbury Show continues to continue it
on a couple of different topics. First things first, the
Eagles and Rams are gonna have the honor of playing
the NFL's first ever game in Australia in twenty twenty six. Yeah,
it's gonna be interesting. Eagles and Rams never been twenty six. Also,
(01:53:36):
he spoke about the technology uh supporting officials in games.
He said this offseason the league is going to talk
about adding replay assistant used to get the calls right.
He said, quote we want to use technology to supplement
and support officials and getting it right. I see us
in the future adding more plays to review, like face
(01:53:59):
mask exces. They don't have time they go back and look,
they've got to make a snap decision in quote, Oh, so.
Speaker 2 (01:54:04):
We're going to start to add stuff that that there's
not revealable. Why is it a face mask revealable? Why
isn't an offset? They all need to be reviewable. Yeah,
it'll make the game better, make it easier. Yes, get
it right. And with that, he was also asked about
the chiefs favoritism. He called it ridiculous. He said, quote,
this sort of reminds me a little bit about the
script that I write a script and then I have
(01:54:26):
a script for the entire season. I think a lot
of it. Those theories are things that happen on social
media and they get a new life. Nobody wants it
to be their theory. I think it reflects a lot
of the fans passion and also a reminder for us
how important officiating is. I think the men and women
who officiate in the NFL are outstanding. It's a ridiculous
theory for anyone who might take it seriously, But at
the end of the day, it's something we always have
(01:54:48):
to continue to work on. How do we make our
officiating better at times at all times?
Speaker 4 (01:54:53):
End quote. And then Travis Kelcey also talked about it.
He was asked about it and he said, quote, why
are media members lean into this whole ref thing? End quote. Oh,
I don't know, Travis, Oh why do you think they are?
Because is that blatant?
Speaker 6 (01:55:07):
Man?
Speaker 4 (01:55:08):
Is that blatant? It's not why they continue to win,
But damn dude, when you get calls that extend multiple
drives a game without good, your offense is now good,
your freaking quarterback is it's gonna help you.
Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
He can say that because he's on the team that
gets the break right. If he was playing anywhere else,
it bother him just like it would other players. That
being said, it can't take away from the Chiefs special season.
Speaker 4 (01:55:35):
No it can't.
Speaker 2 (01:55:36):
Now you get him beat and the rest of it.
But I know it's hard to give success when listen
seventy plays a game, sixty five plays, two or three
of them can make a difference in the game, no doubt.
But this team still executes under pressure better than anybody,
no doubt. So I almost feel going into this game
as if the refs and the side shows are talked
(01:55:57):
about more than the actual game aside from the players.
And you can even argue this because the player's got
the ball on their hand to do it. I think
the two most important people on the field this week
are the defensive coordinators.
Speaker 4 (01:56:09):
How are you putting a plan in.
Speaker 2 (01:56:11):
These last two weeks if you're Steve Spagnolo to take
over to prevent the best running back in the league
this year from destroying you in Saquon Barkley, He's been
destroying everybody. And on the other side, how are you
if you're Vic Fangio, a great defensive coordinator, two Hall
of Fame style defensive coordinators, how are you going to
deal with this multiple team that just seems to situationally
(01:56:34):
puts you by How you getting them off the field
in short yardage meeting third and four or less or
five or less off the field. But it's almost as
if the side show, the Chiefs, the fatigue, the winning,
the referees, Taylor Swift, all that has taken a step
in front of what normally would be, oh my gosh,
(01:56:57):
we're going for a three peat. There was no side
show if the refs weren't involved in this since Taylor
Swift they weren't dating. Do you realize that we would
be in all jaw dropping over how the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (01:57:11):
Are doing this.
Speaker 2 (01:57:12):
Yeah, and it's almost disrespectful to them. They're not the
one they're not paying refs off. I know people think, well,
you know when you see Mahomes shake the ref A
lot of players and coaches shake referee's hands before games
or they just do to they thank you. I watched
Sean McDermott do it after the sc Before that, I
think the Baltimore Ravens game go up. I think it
was McDermott went up and shook guy's hands. It's like, hey,
(01:57:33):
have a good game. There's nothing wrong with that. But
we take pictures and all of a sudden we can
put a meme or a gift together and make it. Oh,
they're doing it, and I get it, and people should
be because I am too. I say the same thing.
It's I'm almost fatigued by the fatigue of the referee talk.
Speaker 1 (01:57:46):
It's getting me beat.
Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
Down because I don't think we're giving the Chiefs enough
credit across it nationally. But I do get why it's
muddled because the referees have had a major impact, and
it becomes a problem. It becomes a problem, is it
does because it's like, why this team doesn't need the advantage,
but neither does anybody else. Hard to call it fair
(01:58:09):
and it just happens that they're getting a couple of
plays a game extra than somebody else. But it should
not take away from the Kansas City Chiefs are not
going to win this game on a referee call. No,
They're gonna win it on being better than Philadelphia, but Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (01:58:22):
I guarantee you it's coming in.
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
And if you're Nick Sirianni right off the bat, you
should start working refs on the sidelines.
Speaker 5 (01:58:29):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (01:58:30):
And you should also during the week say, man, we're
gonna play. We're here to overcome anything that gets in
our way. And to make sure your team understands that
you may very well. You can't lose your crap, you
mean your stuff when you have on a third and
four and you know you didn't hold and they call
holding on you, defensive holding and give Kansas City another
first half. Yeah, because if you get caught up and
(01:58:51):
I can't believe this, guess what will happen. They will
run it right down there and you'll be down twenty
one to three before you blink. It's what happens after
it that's affected teams a lot of times, not what
happens during it. The chiefs deserve a lot of credit,
and the referees got to get better. Yeah, And Roger
Goodell's I mean, Roger makes a lot of money and
he's done a good job of elevating the profit of
(01:59:13):
this league. But the one thing about it at times
he's delusional with this thought that oh they don't play
fait Okay, if they don't that at some point in
time one of these games is going to have overwhelming
the other team gets the calls not to take away
from the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (01:59:26):
Incredible success, real quick as we get into the nine
o'clock hour. Roger Goodell also said he believes the NFL
is eventually going to have an international franchise and when
that does happen, the Super Bowl could be hosted abroad
to support it.
Speaker 2 (01:59:39):
Well, that's the biggest That is the biggest non secret
in the world, right that they're putting a team in
Mexico or in London. First, London seems to be the
first thought. They're putting a team there, and you better
get used to it. Wembley Stadium or one of those
facilities is going to host and there'll be one hundred
and thirty thousand people at it. Oh yeah, Wembley Stadium
(01:59:59):
or whoever whatever they if they have a new one
by then, or the franchise builds their own, whatever it
is they are going to have. You're going to play
games in London. You're a full season, seventeen games are
going to play there. Well, obviously home in a way,
but the NFL is going to add They're they're going
to expand to that city. Yeah, or should I say
(02:00:20):
to that country? Yeah, it's coming.
Speaker 4 (02:00:21):
No, there's no question. Yeah, they will definitely add it.
All right, let's talk a little baseball, Alex Bregman, Scott Boris.

a number of years and over to the Los Angeles Rams.
Gonna be good to talk to him about the Super
(02:01:45):
Bowl and the defense also played none other than USC.
Speaker 14 (02:01:53):
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (02:01:53):
Or no, that would be Florida State? Nice?
Speaker 2 (02:01:56):
Don't ever do that again?
Speaker 1 (02:01:58):
Whoa what?
Speaker 4 (02:01:59):
What's the thing? Triple fire up? Yeah? To fire up
the the U s C. Fight song?
Speaker 6 (02:02:10):
That that?
Speaker 4 (02:02:11):
That's right?
Speaker 2 (02:02:12):
Did you did you honestly put us in the Florida
State Atlanta? You feel good about it? Whoa yeah? Sing
that song? Yeah, sing that song when he comes, when
he comes on, so you'll he'll know that you know
this is it?
Speaker 4 (02:02:30):
Yeah? Yeah, I'll just I'll say. And now joining us
former Notre Dame Irish linebacker Clay Matthews. See how that works,
damn grits. I know I heard exactly. That's why I said,
damn grites. Try that. See how that works for him?
(02:02:54):
That would be embarrassing.
Speaker 1 (02:02:58):
See now you hit whoa.
Speaker 4 (02:03:04):
It's this?
Speaker 2 (02:03:05):
Uh it's pretty good. Yeah, I'm not Yeah it does.
Speaker 4 (02:03:10):
Yeah, No, it gets me turned.
Speaker 6 (02:03:11):
I like this.
Speaker 5 (02:03:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:03:12):
And I played in the band, so I love yeah songs.
Speaker 2 (02:03:16):
This, We'll get you gone. Maybe we should open the
Clay Matthews appearance with it.
Speaker 4 (02:03:22):
Yeah, why not?
Speaker 1 (02:03:23):
We don't do that either.
Speaker 2 (02:03:24):
You give me a tomahawk chop, Yes, you'll do we
two fingers in the air.
Speaker 4 (02:03:28):
Yeah, but you victory that guy on that horse, Yeah,
on the Trojan horse and he coming. No, that's right, No,
that's Florida State.
Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
I always get mixed up. Same colors too, you know
they you know maroon and gold, the the you know that.
Now there's Cardinal and gold. Okay, sure, yeah, we go
Cardinal and Gold. Okay, it's like the name of our
alumni association too. What's it called Cardinal and Gold? Are
you a part of it?
Speaker 4 (02:03:54):
But part of everything you do?
Speaker 8 (02:03:56):
Do you?
Speaker 4 (02:03:58):
He's at your wallets? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:03:59):
Roller off my wallet?
Speaker 4 (02:04:03):
Well was my kid?
Speaker 2 (02:04:04):
Was my kid and all his buddies sitting in Las
Vegas with good seats at the Trojan game.
Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
Probably in the bowl game. It's a it.
Speaker 2 (02:04:12):
Yeah, probably did you know they did? And to graduate
of both but yeah, no Trojans. You're feeling good about this,
are you?
Speaker 1 (02:04:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:04:24):
We should play this when we get Clay Matthews alday
this morning.
Speaker 2 (02:04:27):
Couldn't agree more talented family and his and his dad
gonna his dad belongs in the Hall of Fame. I'm
gonna tell him to make a case. I'm gonna say, Clay,
make a case. Tell you if you're standing in front
of people about your pops, because to me, he is
a Hall of Famer and I sincerely mean that. Tell
us why.
Speaker 4 (02:04:48):
Grandfather Clay matthews senior brother is linebacker Casey Matthews. Uncle
is Bruce, Bruce Matthews, Kevin Matthews, Jake Matthews, Mike Matthews.
They're loaded with his two older brothers, Kyle and Bryant.
They're both members of the National championship team during their
time with USC football.
Speaker 2 (02:05:05):
I mean, come on, man, they got and they got.
He's got a talented daughter, does Clay. His sister Clay
played the third sister. She's I mean, she's been championing
her pops cause for the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (02:05:17):
Yeah. Casey Matthews' younger brother played for Oregon, who also
played a National title game. Yep. His sister, Jennifer is
on NFL Network as an analyst.
Speaker 2 (02:05:26):
Jennifer does a great job of without you know, on
social media, of speaking on her pops behalf. You know,
he's getting closer to the Hall of Fame. He belongs
in there. I played against Clay and he was a
beast and is durable.
Speaker 4 (02:05:39):
Think about the.
Speaker 2 (02:05:40):
Two Matthews brothers, geez, and the very minimal games they
ever missed. They've played between the two of them, thirty
eight years of pro football, nineteen years right for the pops.
I'm pretty sure it's like, I know, Bruce it nineteen
years and it did matter who's going to play. What's
what gave lagger? Thirty eight years? Yeah, thirty eight years
(02:06:03):
between the two Matthews brothers and not a whole lot
of games missed, Buddy, dude, Bruce didn't. Bruce didn didn't
miss a game due to injury. Clay wasn't far behind.
That is a talented you want to talk about football playing,
Jesse's Clay and then the kid.
Speaker 4 (02:06:20):
I mean, it's just a gifted family man. He was.
Speaker 2 (02:06:23):
They can make the argument that they're they're one of
the families of football. They've had one after the other
after the other played big time college football and or Pro.
Speaker 4 (02:06:32):
Clay Matthews Junior, which is his Clay dad, Second team
All Pro, four time Pro bowler. He is the NFL
forced fumbles leader with one thousand. Oh wait, no, I'm
sorry that was in nineteen eighty three. I was about
to say, damn that many. Four time NFL Combined Tackles leader,
He's in the Ring of Honor for the Browns. He's
(02:06:53):
listed as one of the Cleveland Brown Legends. He's a
national title winner, two time first Team All Pack eight.
Speaker 2 (02:07:01):
Also look at his how many games he played over
the course of his career and just a just a beast.
I can't wait for the baby gets in. Yeah, thirty
eight years of pro football between the two dads. That's
a lot of two brothers. Should I say that's a lot?
Speaker 4 (02:07:20):
Yeah? I mean they just list. I mean nineteen ninety three,
age of thirty nine, he played in all sixteen games.
Speaker 2 (02:07:30):
Missing games isn't part of the Matthews deal.
Speaker 4 (02:07:32):
I mean you go eighty one, eighty two, eighty three,
eighty four. I mean he just played every single game.
Speaker 2 (02:07:39):
Bruce tells fun story about when he had to play
against his brother, and yeah, it's they they It'll mean
a lot. I can tell you this, it'll mean a
lot to that family. Clay included. They don't they don't
show a lot of emotion. It'll mean a lot to
that family. And now I know how much it matters
to Bruce because his idol is his brother. You know
(02:07:59):
what I'm saying. I mean that it's just Clay and
Bruce phenomenal football family. Yeah, it's the and the kids
as well. I'm just talking about the two dads. And
we'll have the old man was tough to the pops.
Speaker 4 (02:08:09):
Yes, yeah, we'll have Clay Matthews joining us at nine
forty fives. Take a quick call before we get the break.
Talk to Randall.
Speaker 1 (02:08:16):
Randall, good morning, Hey, good morning guys.
Speaker 14 (02:08:19):
You know, with this Alex Bregman situation, I wanted him
to stay in Houston.
Speaker 8 (02:08:24):
You know, I'm a great fan of Alex Bregman.
Speaker 14 (02:08:27):
But it's okay for a man to be hungry, but
it's bad when a man is greedy. And I'm referring
that to Scott Barris, his agent. I think that this
deal should have been done a long time ago.
Speaker 8 (02:08:39):
And I believe that. You know, when you go on
the job and then you come up for an.
Speaker 14 (02:08:43):
Evaluation, they you may look at it and exceeding expectations
or meeting expectations, but the supervisor want to give you
being on target. And that's the way that I think
that the Houston Astros looking at it, they're not looking
at Pregnant is a player.
Speaker 8 (02:09:01):
To exceed expectations.
Speaker 14 (02:09:04):
He may meet or he may be on target, but
he have to be true to him own his own
self because he may think that a couple of million
dollars more the grants is greener in Boston when it's
already green in Houston.
Speaker 8 (02:09:22):
So you know, he have to make his own decisions.
Speaker 5 (02:09:26):
But you know.
Speaker 8 (02:09:29):
It's it's kind of difficult, man.
Speaker 14 (02:09:30):
This deal should have been done a long time ago,
and by him not making his own decisions, he may
come up short.
Speaker 8 (02:09:38):
That's all I have got.
Speaker 2 (02:09:40):
That's such a valid and good point. I'm must say
something that may bother a few. Well, so god bother
a few, and it may not. Maybe they agree simply
this when we come back and discuss it more. I'm
speaking offensively, and I will tell you that you guys
know how we you'll hear about Alex Bregman think he's
(02:10:04):
need him leadership. All that stuff matters in any building
you go in, and a gold Glover people usually get
paid for the most part on offensive production, for the
most part.
Speaker 4 (02:10:13):
The big money.
Speaker 2 (02:10:15):
If you were evaluating him since nineteen twenty nineteen, just
the numbers alone for him, slow starts and the rest
of it. If it was another job, he probably wouldn't
get a pay raise. Think about that.
Speaker 4 (02:10:30):
Now here.
Speaker 2 (02:10:31):
We know what he brings to the clubhouse, and I
would imagine, you know, if it's Detroit or Boston with
managers there that have been around him. But you think
about it round and you make a great point the
evaluation job. You know, so good defensively, all the other
things that come with, you know, being a great baseball player,
which Alex Bregman is and you know Boris obviously wants
to get every single thing out of the turnip. And
(02:10:52):
we all think of ourself that we're worth more than
maybe somebody else does, and somebody may find us more
value than at times, if you're questioning yourself, then you
find for yourself. But players rarely go in saying I
deserve a pay cut. They usually go in saying I
deserve a pay raise, and all the things that come
into it. But normally in contracts, offense, quarterback, wide receiver,
(02:11:13):
when you get down to it, very rarely were saying,
oh yeah, man on third and seven he got six
yards we're talking. When you get paid, it's usually offensive
production and in the job evaluation Alex Bregman slow starts
in his offensive production. Isn't thirty million dollars worth? That's
(02:11:33):
the problem here? Great player?
Speaker 4 (02:11:36):
But it's not.
Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
It's it's it's I mean, look, look the ops and
stuff has been different. Does that mean he's not going
to be a great player here somewhere else? No, I'm
just saying, when it comes to wanting an astronomical pay
raise into that rarefied thirty million a year range for
a long term, most of the time you're paying players
on offensive production. His hasn't gone north, it's gone health
(02:12:01):
at times. I still hope we get him, it just
won't be for thirty million a year. And I'm not
sure that's going to be anywhere else. Sports Talk seven
ninety much more to discuss Clay Matthews the third at
nine forty two, and more laughs to come and more

Now back to Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (02:14:13):
You guys want to break an update. Sure you're ready
for it. It's our favorite part of the show. Sure
it's epic. He's still a free agent. By the way,
there it is.
Speaker 2 (02:14:27):
Let's say I got between now and the twenty fourth,
So I got some leeway because I said he'd be
signed by Friday. Yeah, I've got You're in March. Yeah, yep,
so I got time. I mean I got the twenty fourth.
Speaker 4 (02:14:39):
He's the fourth.
Speaker 2 (02:14:40):
So in order, that's fourteen days or what are we at?
We got with the fourth or twenty days away from
when Triple E? Didn't you pick the dude, no you do?
You said the twenty fourth of February. Is that you
said triple the twenty fifth? Twenty fifth of February.
Speaker 4 (02:14:55):
So yeah, so that's three weeks from now, right, So
I got Friday.
Speaker 2 (02:14:59):
I've got about fifteen days leeway starting from Friday, fourteen
days that I still beat him to the punch closer
to the to the number. Yeah, so he I got
some room to work.
Speaker 4 (02:15:12):
With it.
Speaker 2 (02:15:13):
There's no way this goes into March. There's absolutely no way.
Speaker 4 (02:15:16):
So according to there was one of the Chicago stations,
six seventy the Score, they said on their show yesterday
that they have heard from their sources that Alex Bregman
isn't interested in signing with the Blue Jays are Tigers.
So that would basically leave the Red Sox, the Astros,
(02:15:37):
and the Toronto Blue Jays. Yeah, yeah, apparently he doesn't
want to sign with the Blue Jays or Tigers.
Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
Well, and in truth, the Canada thing may come into
play because you know what's what's going on. It could
you know a little more difficult. I would imagine he's
consulting mama.
Speaker 4 (02:15:56):
Yeah, where she'd like to live. She's from Cyprus from here.
Speaker 2 (02:16:00):
So, and then you know Boston great sports town, and
obviously he knows what he gets here. And Chicago another
great sports town. I don't anticipate unless somebody in Detroit
comes up and says, we'll give you thirty million for
six years, he'll play in Detroit. But I can't see
this going all the way to March. He's got to
get fatigued by it. If it does, he's got to
(02:16:21):
get worn out.
Speaker 4 (02:16:22):
Yeah. So do you think this relationship between agent and player,
do you think it's hurting him or do you think
it's good for the player.
Speaker 2 (02:16:28):
I think Scott Borse, when he gets you the money,
it's great because everybody wants as much as they can get.
I understand that, and his job is to do that
for his client. I think he's got so much power
that he intimidates his own clients. I think he's got
so much power that they almost in a verbal way.
I'm not saying they do give him power of attorney
(02:16:48):
to do whatever he wants to say, go get what
you want and tell me when it's to give me,
give me the update, and give me your suggestion. Will
I almost feel like he is negotiating his own contract
with that in mind. Do I think he gets some
money and does a great job. Yeah, powerful power outside
of like an executive, like the commissioner. There can't be
a more powerful guy in sport in baseball, there can't be.
(02:17:12):
He controls the market with all the great players he's got,
there just can't be. So with that, what I do
think that hurts though. I think that they end up
going to places they wouldn't normally go because the money
is bigger, and he milks it and milks it and
he gets it. I'll bet you along the way that
(02:17:34):
some of the players now you don't ever regret getting paid.
But I'll bet you there's a regret from some of
his players, and maybe with other agents players too.
Speaker 4 (02:17:40):
But he's so.
Speaker 2 (02:17:42):
Adam at about getting you know, he's going to push
the envelope and push it, and players that they're trusting
him so much. I think it gets to a point
where the stubbornness and ego becomes a part of it.
And I think the effect on the players there is
no way. And listen, I lived in Minnesota. The people
were great, and it's a good sports town.
Speaker 6 (02:17:59):
It is.
Speaker 2 (02:18:00):
There's no way that Carlos Korey is happier in Minnesota
than he is here than he was here. There's no way, no,
And it appears this late now it may bregman same way.
But if you're gonna get stay money and go to
a place, it would have been your second or third choice.
I believe at times players are playing places solely for
the fact that they got paid more, not for the
(02:18:21):
other reasons that come into play. And it almost feels now. Listen, Chicago, Boston,
there's a lot of worse places. Those are two great
sports towns with franchises that get it. But I can
tell you not every player is fortunate to have those
as the final options. I'm convinced that when all this
is said and done, that they will have gone about
their business different. Yeah that's just me, and maybe I'm wrong,
(02:18:43):
but my perception says yes, And an agent can lead
you to a place because the money's bigger that you
would have chosen seventh if the money wasn't right. And
I think quality of life depending on it. I think
quality of life trump's a little bit extra money I
just do.
Speaker 4 (02:18:59):
I think that this is how it goes every single
offseason for Scott.
Speaker 2 (02:19:03):
Boss with one or two of his clients. Oh yeah,
there's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (02:19:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:19:07):
With the Sodas, it's a no brainer. They chased him.
He didn't have to chase money, right, And they're chasing
a bet he won. He blackjacked immediately, yeah, And and
hand after hand. The rest of them hit on twenty yeah.
And and they're not busted because they're making money. But
I don't think they're going I think at times he
does it so harsh that he gets to the point
where where general managers are rolling their eyes at this situation.
Speaker 4 (02:19:31):
And I think that can be a detriment to the player. Yeah,
And I think that's I honestly think that's where we
were headed.
Speaker 2 (02:19:35):
The difference for Boris is Boss doesn't have to put
a bat in his hand or a glove in his
hand and go play once he gets there, right, he
just gets to see the money coming in from what
he goes. I'm not saying he doesn't have his client's
best interests in mind, yeah, but I think at times
that he's got so much power that he has his
best interests in mind. First at times. Yeah, And I
think that's a mistake. The player's got to it's got
(02:19:56):
to be about the player first always when it comes
to it, even if it means a little less to
be someplace you're more happy.
Speaker 4 (02:20:02):
Still think it goes into marsh. I don't think there's
any way in hell.
Speaker 2 (02:20:07):
So that's twenty six or it's twenty eight days this month,
this month, so you're telling me twenty four more days
and he's still not in camp for a slow starter,
So I think I would become fatigue. Say listen, I
don't care about the extra million a year for six years.
I want to go play baseball. This is where I
want to go, and let's get it done tomorrow. I
can't as a player at this stage. Then you start
(02:20:29):
to doubt with when is this going to get done?
I think that it's it disrupts the routine you normally
used to Right now, Alex Bregman's days away from being
in a camp normally normally, and when that's disrupted, it's
an uncomfortable situation.
Speaker 4 (02:20:44):
I've seen guys come.
Speaker 2 (02:20:45):
To camp late then they had good ones, and that
they may have had good seasons, but when you walk
in the locker room. Everybody's there to see. It's good
to see, but you almost feel, you almost feel a
little I miss something, and I think it's important. I
do have to wait and see. There's Alex Bregmann.
Speaker 4 (02:21:03):
Update A one of the best umpires in Major League
Baseball is no longer in the league. What the hell happened?
That's next?
Speaker 1 (02:21:13):
Were but the Sean Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (02:21:18):
That he is the best umpire in Major League Baseball.
He was fired yesterday for sharing a betting account with
a friend who bet on baseball. Is coming straight from
Major League Baseball. There's no evidence that he bet on
baseball or affected games, but MLB found he impeded the
inquiry by deleting messages.
Speaker 2 (02:21:38):
And you know, why would you delete him?
Speaker 4 (02:21:40):
Exactly?
Speaker 2 (02:21:41):
And number two is and he is a really good
ump and he's got great reputation on the diamond. But
let me, what would make you think that this was
a smart move? Why can't the buddy have his own account?
Speaker 4 (02:21:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:21:55):
Why do you share a benny if it's a grown adult,
Why can't he get his own account?
Speaker 6 (02:21:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:22:00):
He lives in a state his buddy that can't bet it?
And so he's on there, that's not going to end. Well, yeah, no,
on every locker on the planet. I'm assuming they still
do in major league clubhouses. You know, gambling is illegal
and it's a problem, and we've seen what it's done
to well, God rest his soul, Pete Rose and the
(02:22:21):
rest of them. Is it hypocritical? It absolutely is by
pro sports, it's one hypocritical. But guess what they don't
care about their hypocrisy. They care about and the integrity
of the game, the rest of it. Because now, if
he still worked as an umpire and he missed a
couple of calls in a game, the first thing everybody
would say is he bet the game and it can't
(02:22:43):
And I know he said it'll be a He did
not argue with it. He understood why Baseball did it,
and he said he'll be disappointed and embarrassed the rest
of his life.
Speaker 6 (02:22:53):
It is.
Speaker 2 (02:22:55):
I was just going to say it's it's a bummer
because we need good umpires, but it But what would
make a guy, I mean, decisions, you know, thinking decisions.
We all make stupid decisions. I just can't imagine that
you'd think I'll share this account, then I'll delete them
before they go look at him and it's a gronadol.
Let that guy handle his own account. I mean, what
(02:23:18):
part of this was smart?
Speaker 4 (02:23:20):
None of it?
Speaker 2 (02:23:21):
None of it and then knowing even if you didn't
bet a dime with the hippocrits. I get the hypocrisy
that we all say, well, you're gonna make a billion
dollars from a gambling site, but the guy can't go
on and play fantasy sports or bet a game that
he's not umpiring.
Speaker 4 (02:23:34):
The problem is, you just can't. We are at a
time right now, we're questioned.
Speaker 2 (02:23:39):
In this wrong time for you to be in shoulder
to shoulder with a buddy on a betting site, as
a major league umpire or any pro sports referee or umpire.
I just can't think what a smart guy would be
thinking about doing this. And guess what, he'll never be
able to ump.
Speaker 4 (02:23:57):
Again ever again. This is Pat Hoberg, who who umpired
behind the plate in World Series Game number two on
October twenty ninth, twenty twenty two. The Astros won that
game five to two. He had one hundred percent overall accuracy.
He had one hundred percent called ball accuracy, one hundred
percent called strike accuracy. He missed zero calls with his strikes.
Speaker 2 (02:24:19):
Right now, there's a part of me that says, go
over his history through this and let's see what his
percentage was both teams wise, was there a major discrepancy
in a game that would make you think that he
was involved or if there's no one, I mean, I
understand why you can't continue to allow him to umpire,
(02:24:39):
but you also say, well, do you give a guy
a benefit doubt? If he was betting, it would be
a discrepancy blatantly one other one way or the other.
But even if he was consulting with somebody, say hey, listen,
I can't bet this.
Speaker 4 (02:24:51):
You go bet it for us.
Speaker 2 (02:24:53):
It's a game I'm not involved with, but I know
the umpires that are, and they'll miss him bet this one.
I can't imagine he'd do that either, but his history,
he's really good at his job. But the problem is
integrity wise, the first bad game he has, it would
they would go sideways. And now that people know this,
(02:25:15):
it's unfortunate that a great umpire, but he made a
bad choice and it's gonna and it's gonna cost him.
He'll never get to umpire again.
Speaker 4 (02:25:22):
No, he will not and I can. I just got
his scorecards pulled up. But let's take a quick call
and then we'll go through these before we get to
Clay Matthews. John, what's up?
Speaker 8 (02:25:30):
What's up? Pardoner?
Speaker 6 (02:25:33):
What's up to?
Speaker 4 (02:25:35):
Oh? You know, just grinding another day. Man, just got
off a roof fig ball.
Speaker 8 (02:25:41):
I'm talking here quick. Being distracted, Man, I need you
to answer some questions.
Speaker 4 (02:25:45):
Well, well let's let's roll, baby, come on.
Speaker 1 (02:25:47):
Well we got.
Speaker 8 (02:25:50):
Hey question for y'all.
Speaker 13 (02:25:52):
Man Number one on this Clay Matthews deal, Sean, how
many years? How many more eligible years since he have?
Speaker 11 (02:26:02):
The dad?
Speaker 4 (02:26:03):
The dad?
Speaker 8 (02:26:03):
Yeah, the dad.
Speaker 4 (02:26:04):
I don't know. I haven't I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:26:06):
I know he belongs in, but I don't know how
many more eligible he's he's it's it's overdue. He should
have already been in.
Speaker 13 (02:26:13):
This is so as And this is what really pisses
me off about these damn sports riders is that they
don't know their ass from a hole.
Speaker 8 (02:26:21):
In the ground.
Speaker 4 (02:26:22):
I mean, this man should have been in the hall
a long.
Speaker 8 (02:26:24):
Long time ago.
Speaker 13 (02:26:26):
What is stopping them? I have no idea, but I mean,
these guys, Brian, you mentioned it a couple of weeks ago,
whether it's the baseball or you know, and the joke
of all jokes the NBA. Who cares about them but
the football and the baseball. These sports riders they need
to lose their dam voting powers or whatever because they
(02:26:48):
don't like somebody. I mean, you know whatever. I just
think it's it's long overdue, man, long overdue. I think,
you know, seriously that the Texans they need to go.
Speaker 4 (02:27:05):
They need to go.
Speaker 5 (02:27:08):
They need to go.
Speaker 13 (02:27:08):
Kick the rock, kick the boots, kick the doors, whatever,
shake the tree on this Cooper Cup tight. Yes, he's
a little bit over thirty. Split some money with La
because you don't know if dis is gonna be back.
And look, man, let's be real, Dall's career could be over. Yeah,
I mean, let's be real about it. I hope the
(02:27:29):
guy that ain't for the young man, but dude, you
gotta go, you gotta go.
Speaker 4 (02:27:33):
Look at this deal with Cup.
Speaker 13 (02:27:35):
You know, you need a wide out.
Speaker 4 (02:27:38):
We need to get another wide out, you know.
Speaker 8 (02:27:40):
And I just think that, uh, they'd be crazy not
to look at him.
Speaker 6 (02:27:45):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:27:47):
I early in the show, I said the same thing.
I said, I would be jumped to the front of
the line to trade for him. He's got a lot
of good football left at him. There's one hundred catches
in that guy in a season. He's got that kind
of game. I'm all for it, absolutely, I'm all for it,
you know.
Speaker 13 (02:28:04):
And then there's one guy he said, and what on
y'all show, but it was on text, Go get Miles Garrett, say, hell,
you need Miles Garrett for man?
Speaker 16 (02:28:12):
You got two end rushers. What you're gonna do with them?
If you go get Miles gear You don't need defense,
you need an offense. Tell me you need to go
get a line. You don't go get Miles Garrett. Yeah,
it'd be great to have him, but let's be realistic.
Let's be real about it. That's not you know, street stars.
Speaker 13 (02:28:30):
And then the caller before about greed and being greedy Boris,
It ain't Boris.
Speaker 4 (02:28:36):
It's it's both of them.
Speaker 13 (02:28:38):
It's bors and pregnant and pregnant needs to gonna as
Springer Korea and Derek Cole.
Speaker 4 (02:28:43):
Yeah they're rich. Sure he's got his two rings, but
they're miserable. Money ain't everything, though, No, it's not John.
We gotta run, We gotta Welcome to Clay Matthews. You
appreciate the call man. Are you thanks? Buddy? Love Derek Cole?
Who Derek Cole? Yeah? Is that what he said? Is
that what Johnny called it? Derek Cole? He caught him,
(02:29:03):
Derek Cole.
Speaker 2 (02:29:04):
We got some name pronunciations going on on this.
Speaker 4 (02:29:07):
We have some fun with it, right. Yeah. We heard
of Bobby Slovak earlier in the show, in the six
o'clock hour, Derek Cole. Love it man, Laryn Tunzel. You
love those daves, don't you. I wonder what jose of
Bray who's doing?
Speaker 6 (02:29:23):
Well?
Speaker 4 (02:29:23):
What's what? What is? I can't wite?
Speaker 2 (02:29:25):
What's our guy? Joe a spot of nickname the Joe?
Speaker 4 (02:29:28):
Oh Josey my bad? Yeah? Yeah yeah, I can't wait
to hear people butcher esoch Paratis name this year. Oh
it's Isaac Parades. Oh yeah, it's coming sock Paradise. Yeah,
like pa love it, Derek Cole, Baby, Derek Cole, Hey,
(02:29:50):
real quick. The Pat Hoberg thing. I was looking at
his Umpire scorecards and I just picked a random year.
I picked twenty twenty three. I went through seven of
his scorecards. The lowest percentage he had was eighty eight percent.
Everything else was ninety three percent above. Literally, one of
the best umpires in baseball made a Paul accuracy and
strike call accuracy.
Speaker 2 (02:30:11):
Poor decision unfortunately, and we need all the game. It's
a bummer, man.
Speaker 4 (02:30:16):
I know who the friend was, Shohil Tani.
Speaker 2 (02:30:22):
Now, I mean they jumped the They jumped all over
him and ran him out, Twick, even though there was
some smoke there.
Speaker 4 (02:30:32):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (02:30:32):
They poured water on that smoke so Fastick, and then
he goes out and has another MVP year.
Speaker 4 (02:30:37):
I mean it's he's he's a pretty good player.
Speaker 2 (02:30:41):
But yeah, it I mean, but the umpire, you just
can't have the G word gambling sitting next to that.
Even if you didn't, just you can't do it now.
And it's unfortunate for a guy who could umpire fifteen
more years.
Speaker 4 (02:30:54):
I love it though, because it's it's like on an
MLB broadcast, you're going to hear Pat Hoberg was fired.
Do you agree with it? Next segment brought to you
by DraftKings. You co use code word umpire yeah for
twenty dollars on your next on your next to bet. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:31:10):
And his buddy should be ashamed of himself for even
asking him to be on the same betting or maybe
it's opposite. Maybe maybe he put him here. Maybe yeah,
maybe the other guy said, and he goes, man, put
me on there. It's like, wouldn't you, as your friend say, dude, no,
you got too good a gig go to you're a bit,
you're a bigly gump this day. If you would have
bet me one hundred dollars on the golf course, we'll
do it. Yeah, stay away from this dumb Who isn't
(02:31:32):
a friend supposed to look after a friend?
Speaker 5 (02:31:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:31:34):
Who would even suggest that this was normal?
Speaker 4 (02:31:36):
Dumb? It is extremely dumb. It's dumb.
Speaker 2 (02:31:39):
You start to think, dude, what your IQ's a four after?
I mean, to your common sense, I can't there's such
thing nuts. I don't get it.
Speaker 4 (02:31:47):
I don't either. It's dumb. Man. All Right, we're gonna
welcome in Clay Matthews to the show next. On Sports
Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (02:31:52):
Ninety, Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:32:20):
Let me tell you what, man, A lot.
Speaker 4 (02:32:23):
Of fight songs unless you're the soul raw state Lobos
give me jacked out. Two types of people out there,
This one gets me fired up.
Speaker 2 (02:32:29):
Two types of people out there, Trojans, and all those
who want to be them.
Speaker 4 (02:32:32):
Don't you dare the lobos? Man? Come on, you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (02:32:36):
Listen to this fight song. I've got a pretty good
Trojan on. Huh, we sure do. I walked on and
turned out being an unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (02:32:41):
Player, eleven years in the NFL, six time pro bowler,
Super Bowl champion. Clay Matthews is going to join us
on the Sean Salisbury Show, and now he is also
the Cult Safety Impact Award winner. Clay Matthews. Welcome in, Yeah,
and we're gonna get to that. Clay, Welcome in, man.
How you doing, Bud, I'm doing a lot.
Speaker 6 (02:33:02):
I appreciate that intro. Almost ran to my office real quick,
got my old helmet from two thousand and eight when
I heard that Trojan fight song. They need a little
bit of help, but they still got one of the
best fight songs in the country, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:33:14):
And we can still line you up. I know you
got eligibility. I played with your uncle, you know, for
all the years I was at SC Bruce and I
were together. Your pops is there, You're there.
Speaker 4 (02:33:21):
We got it.
Speaker 2 (02:33:21):
We got a straight line to the Trojans, and we'll
get to that in a second. First off, let me
start with this, Clay and great to have you on.
You remember this week when you played in it? When
did it kick in that? Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:33:33):
Hell, this is real.
Speaker 6 (02:33:36):
Well, I tell you what. While I do remember it,
it was only my second year in the league and
my head was spinning at that point. We had to
win our last two games of the twenty ten season
just to be eligible to make the playoffs, and then
we had to go on the road to Philly, to Atlanta,
to Chicago and then all the way to the super Bowl.
That I was fortunate and that I was so naive
(02:33:57):
and so young that I didn't understand the magnitude of
the game. And I think that's what allowed me to
continue to play free and young like you see some
of these players. So for me, we did well. I
should say for us, we did such a great job.
And I'm assuming a lot of other teams do as well.
This past week, focusing on the game plan, making sure
everything's installed, and when you do get to your destination
(02:34:18):
wherever the super Bowl may be, and there's media responsibilities
and being pulled every which way, the moment's not too
big for you. And the great thing is for both
these teams. You obviously see Kansas City, who you know
is playing and they're third in the last three years
and four in the last five or whatever it is,
and then Philly coming back after a few years that,
you know, I would like to think the moment's not
too big for them and they should be you know,
(02:34:41):
they should put their best product on display this Sunday.
Speaker 2 (02:34:43):
Clay Matthews the Third joins us here on Sports Talk
seven ninety Sean Salasrechow. All right, Clay beat defensive coordinator
for me, I mean, head coach. I came to you
and I say, hey, Steve Spagnola, your job is if
we take sa Kwon Barkley at least eliminate his dominance
and don't let him take over the game, will win this.
What kind of a plan do we got to have
to deal with this guy this week?
Speaker 11 (02:35:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:35:05):
I think sae Quon is going to get his He's
going to get his yards. I don't think we've seen
a team stop him. So I think their ability to
disrupt the game plan is obviously limiting those you know,
the first play we saw two weeks to go into
the Commanders, that sixty yard run, limiting the big playmaking
ability making him earn it, and then on top of that,
it's getting pressure on Hurts. He can obviously move, you know,
(02:35:28):
in the pocket, but just create some hesitation, some delay
in his timed routes, and I think that'll be the
difference if you're asking me what Spag should do on
the defensive.
Speaker 5 (02:35:38):
Side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (02:35:39):
But listen, easier said than done when you're going against
arguably the best O line in football, and obviously Hurts
is you know, can make plays on the speed and
has been throwing the ball extremely well. So I'm going
to hijack your question here and ultimately I think the
Eagles on paper seem like they should win, but I
can't bet against the Chiefs and what they've been able
(02:35:59):
to do their situational awareness and football, and I think
they do it. I think they went through in a row.
Speaker 2 (02:36:04):
Do you believe and this is such a it's almost
it almost trumps the the way Kansas City is so good.
You know, they find ways to just get it done
even though it's not pretty at times. Do you believe
in watching football that there is an extra attention paid
to or given to the Kansas City Chiefs referee?
Speaker 4 (02:36:21):
Wise.
Speaker 6 (02:36:23):
Yeah, listen, I know that kind of opens the can
of worms, and especially in today's day and age of
you know, sports books and whatnot. I don't believe that
the Chiefs themselves get you know, preferential treatment or extra calls.
I will say, though, there are certain individuals who will
get the benefit of the doubt. So you know, when
you have a rookie quarterback who's going to slide, he
takes the hit out of bounds, or he's going out
(02:36:45):
of bounds, you know, more often than not, they're probably
not going to get the call. But I think with
you know, a guy like Mahomes who's as visible as
Mahomes or Josh Allen or you know, these guys who
you constantly see on TV and have an immense amount
of success, I think they're gonna get to benefit of
the doubt. I think that's what you saw from you know,
when the Chiefs played the Texans. I don't know so
(02:37:07):
much about you know, the Buffalo game. I know that's
a separate conversation about spotting the ball and all that.
But to answer your question, I don't see preferential treatment.
I do see players get to benefit of the doubt.
Speaker 4 (02:37:19):
Though all right.
Speaker 2 (02:37:20):
Let me switch to this local team here in Houston.
I don't know how much you got to see of them.
They obviously didn't get where they wanted to go. How
close is this team? You've been on a team that
had going a wildcard, like you said, go on a
road and I believe that year, Clay, you guys had
like eleven or twelve guys on injured reserve and still
went on and win a Super Bowl. I'll ask you
about this team, CJ. Stroud, Demico Ryans. Are they far
(02:37:43):
off and is there a major need somewhere?
Speaker 5 (02:37:46):
No, not at all.
Speaker 6 (02:37:47):
In fact, they are a fun team to watch, a
fun young team to watch. I think CJ. Stroud obviously
you know obviously Texans, you know, being the second overall pick,
they got their guy and he's continued to show that,
and then Will Anderson shortly thereafter just being an absolute
menace on the edge. But you look at the receivers
to Tank Dell, Nico Collins, and I know, I want
(02:38:08):
to say, Stefon Diggs might be up or something has
to happen. But you look at Shoot Mixon as well
as running backs. To answer your question, yeah, I've watched
a lot of Texans ball this year.
Speaker 5 (02:38:17):
But they look good.
Speaker 6 (02:38:19):
They've got a lot of young playmakers with a young
coach like the Mikos turned kind of that culture and
that organization around. They're fun to watch and even though
the score might not have insinuated that the game was
as close as it was with the Chiefs, I mean
they were right there. So I don't think they're too
far off. I think CJ needs to continue to take
those those next steps as a competitor as a quarterback
(02:38:43):
in this league to separate himself. But I think all
the pieces are in place for, you know, continued successful
run for the foreseeable future.
Speaker 4 (02:38:50):
Claim mass Us.
Speaker 2 (02:38:51):
Clay Matthews, the third Super Bowl champion, great player in college,
pro bowler, All Pro in the NFL, joins us for
a couple more minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
I'm with your uncle about every once a week, and
we spent a lot of time talking and on this show.
I've said for years, your Pops is long overdue in
the Hall of Fame. And for people that didn't get
(02:39:12):
to watch him play, they missed a treat. So let
me ask you, if you were standing in front of
the committee and had to say why. I know, why,
tell me why or tell the people why your pops
belongs in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (02:39:27):
You know, I will, but I hate the fact that,
you know, we have to politics agreed to enter the
Hall of Fame. And I just think, you know, regarding
my father, nineteen years in the league, I think most
games played for a linebacker. I want to say he's
top three in tackles. But the fact of the matter
is he played in a small market in Cleveland. He
(02:39:50):
wasn't He chose not to market himself as much as
shooting myself and other people to make yourself known, invisible
and visible. And you know, ultimately it's a shame though,
because twenty five years have gone past and he's now
moved on to the Senior Committee. But I know, those
last couple of years when he was up for induction,
(02:40:12):
I want to say, his final year, in the twenty
fifth year, they had let us know that he was
the sixth you know, candidate to make the Hall of Fame,
and only five. What I don't understand is that within
those twenty five years his resume has not changed yet.
Why in the twenty fifth year, you know, is there
this movement and flux of where you know.
Speaker 4 (02:40:29):
How great his career was.
Speaker 6 (02:40:30):
So it's frustrating, but at the same time, you know,
he has always maintained that he's at peace with his career.
But listen, you always want to be appreciated for what
you were able to do. And I think it would
be really cool, especially you know, to have brothers in
the Hall of Fame with what both Bruce and my
father were able to do. His impact on the game,
(02:40:52):
and not just Cleveland, there's obviously, like I said, with
the small market. I mean, I could go on for days,
but I do appreciate those words, and hopefully in time
he will get into the Hall of Fame as a
senior you know however that works. But you know, I
hate the fact we have the politic for something that
as clear as day with his impact in the NFL, and.
Speaker 2 (02:41:11):
I played against him and it wasn't fun. And you
know what for a family that has done their job
in speaking of your dad and your uncle, is it
They obviously emotion when they play, but never as you mentioned,
self promoters, they just did their job. Nineteen, you're thirty
eight years of pro football between the two, and I
imagine we'd see some aunts awesome emotion that you don't
get to see much from those guys because they just
(02:41:32):
do their job and let everybody else talk about them
for them. Let me finish with this, and we appreciate
your time. My man is you won the vote, the
fan vote, and you're the winner of the Safety Impact Award,
and they donated ten thousand dollars to Project Child Safe,
which is your charity.
Speaker 4 (02:41:48):
But tell us.
Speaker 2 (02:41:49):
About what this cult award is so people get an understanding,
and then tell us about your charity.
Speaker 6 (02:41:55):
Of course. Well, first off, I appreciate you getting the
platform to talk about this. As the father of three
young children of firearms enthusiast and avid outdoorsman, I was
approached several weeks ago from my friends at COULT and
we launched the Safety Impact Award, which highlights the critical
mission of educating everyone on safe and responsible firearm ownership. Together,
(02:42:16):
we've been honoring nonprofit organizations who have shown an exceptional
commitment in the firearm industry with regard to safety. And
it's not just me, it's Hall of Famer Joe Thomas
and Super Bowl champions Adam Vinterian Fletcher Cox. We each
were asking we had asked everyone to go to Safety
Impact Award dot com to vote for our respective charities
(02:42:38):
and minus Project child Safe. I'll get to that in
a minute, and after the fan vote was calculated, I won,
which is fantastic. So Colt is donating ten thousand dollars
to my charity, Project child Safe, which we're both fired
up about. And what Project child Safe is. It provides
the nation's most comprehensive firearm and safety education. They also
(02:42:59):
partner with law enforcement agency to provide free firearms safety kiss.
Those are just a few of the many things they do.
So it's been just an awesome partnership. And for those
that didn't get a chance to vote but still want
to reap the benefits of Colt's educational campaign, go to
Safety Impact Award. You even have a chance to enter
(02:43:19):
their Big Game Safety sweep Stakes, where if there is
a safety during the Super Bowl you'll have a chance
to win a portion of their one hundred thousand dollars prize. So,
like I said, this has been a no brainer. No
matter how you feel about firearms, I think it's important
for all of us to be educated. And yeah, I
appreciate you giving me the platform.
Speaker 4 (02:43:38):
No problem we'll let you go on this.
Speaker 2 (02:43:39):
First off to my fellow Trojan, it was always a
joint honor to watch you play. There, give me a
score for this game. You know, I'm not gonna let
you step back. I know you said Philadelphia should win,
but you don't want to pick against Casey. Give me
a score and who wins.
Speaker 6 (02:43:52):
All right, I'm gonna go. I think it's gonna be
a high scoring affair. I'm going to go. I'll go
forty two thirty five.
Speaker 2 (02:44:00):
Kansas City one of the and if they score forty
two points, I imagine that that's a Mahomes MVP award.
Speaker 6 (02:44:06):
Yeah, I think it's an m VP. And if if
somehow the the Eagles do uh, you know, get this victory,
I think it's say kwon win in the m VP
for the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (02:44:14):
There you go, Clay, always a pleasure. I'm pulling for
your pops. And like I said, I'll see your your
uncle this next Tuesday. And what a great, great honor
to have you on. We look forward to doing again.
And congratulations on the win and what you're doing for
your h for child safety and care and uh and
in the award from Colt, that's awesome. Appreciate you, my man.
Speaker 6 (02:44:32):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (02:44:32):
Guys.
Speaker 6 (02:44:33):
That's great day.
Speaker 2 (02:44:33):
All right you too, that's uh Clay Matthews. Yeah pretty good.
Huh Yeah, you see and that naive sometimes being naive
early in your career. Yeah, you don't, you know, because
there's gonna be people that choke in the game and
there's gonna be people who thrive. It's almost when you're
that young, it's like, I don't know, it's I'm just
gonna fly around and make and you know, you watch
him play hair Flop and he flew around like crazy.
Speaker 1 (02:44:52):
What a career for Colt.
Speaker 4 (02:44:54):
Make sure to check out Safety Impact Award dot com
and enter their Big Game Safety Sweepstakes to win big again.
That's cult, uh the what Safety Impact Award. Matthews joining
us to come on this week. Appreciate you. We got
to get out of here. The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross is next.
