Speaker 1 (00:38):
A lot of good morning and a lot of historics

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Road winds streak. We're going to BYU's historic victory.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yeah yeah, historic these nuts, yeah, okay, yeah, not a
lot going on in the sports world.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
So we're gonna throw his two histories like that. You
know what did you?
Speaker 7 (00:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Double historic? Uh huh. That tells me it's a historic night.
It was.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, didn't watch either of them? Whoa, whoa what you
didn't watch?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Brigging me up? Put it on the jow. Why was asleep? Man?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Storm and the storm and Mormons? Dude, I'm serious. They
beat the hell right they did, and they got that
and they got that one kid like the number one
recruit in the country on his way to BYU as well.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Forgot he picked uh picked bring me Young provo over
dang like everybody else.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Get a little view of the Wasatch Mountains.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, yep, I mean nothing but knocking down Trifecta's last night.
Kansas is a very good this year. I mean they
hell Kansas started I did. You can't start the seasons the.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Top three seed. Yeah, I think they were number two
what they number wanted to in the country.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
They're down down by twenty three or twenty four to
twenty five somewhere now.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
But they only scored fifty. Yeah, BYU put it on them.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Man, hell of a hell of a big victory by
the by the Trojans two in twenty twenty one against Kansas,
I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
They did the same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
They put it on him, beat him by thirty four,
Jez BYU the big, big victory thirty four. I think
it was last night as well. But man, you didn't
watch any of it. You don't care.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
How's the historic if you're not watching it?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Uh, you know, I just I just I'm just.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Here, you know, you just make it thanks happening. Yeah,
I'm just here. Is it a historic show.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Yeah, that's every day though, legends show. Yeah, what do
you talking legendary?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:20):
Man, LJ. Crier for the Cougs. Last night scored eighteen.
Number five Houston beats Arizona State. They're playing really good
basketball right now. I know we say this every at
this time of year. They start playing great every every year.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Right then that it gives you pause for a second, say,
oh they can, they can win the whole thing.
Speaker 7 (02:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Who oh, LJ.
Speaker 7 (02:40):
Cryer.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
I'll tell you he's putting a lot of tears in
opponent's eye right now.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Yeah, they got a big one on Saturday. Historic phrase,
but I know they host Cougar's host number eight Iowa
State on Saturday. College game Day is going to be
there or whatever they call it, a basketball side of
the college game day?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Is it? Okay?
Speaker 8 (02:58):
Good?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Don't hey? Yeah, I'm telling you man them uh right now,
Elite eight Iowa State. That's what I'm putting out there.
That's historic prediction.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Okay. How many times you think we could weave historic
in today? Probably quite a bit. I want.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
If we can say about I mean about it, oh
historic victory. You know, like we'll overuse it like broadcasters
and games used great you know, Oh what a great tackle, dude,
he tackled him for a one yard game right where
he was supposed to be.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah yeah, great tackle. Indeed. So everything's going to be
historic today.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
Okay, bro, So I did see some early brackets being
put together and they got Houston as a number two seed.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Well, we'll see how the final you know, conference championships
and the rest of it go. We'll see. I think
that they just gotta keep taking key. What do we
just keep stacking dubs, keep eating dubs? Yeah, no, don't
eat them, keep eating dump us.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
Man.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
I think Houston's better than Alabama. I think, uh yeah.
I think the top four seeds when it's all shakes out,
will probably i mean, be how howlet's ranked. It'll be
Auburn Florida duke. And then for that last four seed,
it'll be Alabama or Houston, unless Tennessee continues to play
good basketball or Texas A and M might sneak in
there too.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Well, there's an h down takeover. Okay. You know historic
also is playing good basketball? Is Texas Tech.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
I'm telling you the Big twelve and the sec SEC
silly watch neither conference will have a national champion this year.
I'll bet you it'll be like Saint John, Like three
of the four teams will represent those two conferences. I'll
bet you yeah, probably probably Big ten. This is your
time to shine dogs. This is your favorite. Come on,
without question, it's historic. It's a listen. You don't think
(04:49):
I watched b Why you put a little historic ass
whooping on Kansas?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Probably not.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
You're probably out protecting it. It's freaking out, man. Yeah,
you had to wrap them. What up the plants? They
double wrap them in times. You want to make sure
they're fully protected when you double wrap. And then uh,
but the wind and the chill. Dude out and out
in full shirt that went howls and it's howling right now.
(05:13):
I feel like you feel like you're standing in the
middle of Kansas, like in the planes and it's just
rolling through.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
I've done some pipeline projects back and while and gas
days in Kansas.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Not fun. Wide open up there. It sucked.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Oh yeah, you're gonna you're gonna feel every ounce of
the cold. But yeah, it's uh, it's a bit nippy there,
a little little cold out there, but it rent for
like three hours Street where I was sometimes agreed. You
just got to compete sometimes at Green Belt back there. Huh.
You guys got to competetic and historic night, right. Uh
(05:44):
So you just gotta sometimes you just gotta, you know,
stare it down.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
You just gotta stare it down. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (05:49):
Trip, Did you make any bets last night? You throw
any money down? No, man, scared money, don't make money
cause mm hmmmm, we've got.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Some of that underdog fantas a coin sitting on the phone. Whoa, whoa,
Oh that's not free. There are people on social media.
Let's let's sa Sean, I see your videos. Do yeah,
damn rights, Okay, play the higher lower game.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Let's go sell Mortimer sells well.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
You know, oh yeah, man, somebody, somebody sneaky will creep
into the eighth though it happens every year. Yeah, I know, Field,
Well that's not fair, not every year. But when I
say sneaky, I don't know. You know, as a team
like Michigan State, who that's always a team like they'll
always they'll be hanging over that. They'll go through a
(06:40):
couple lulls in the early season and everybody will question
Tom is those teams, and then they'll start to say, well,
they just don't look the same.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
And then they'll go on.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
They'll knock another one down, and another one down, another
one down, and they'll start outside the top twenty at times, yep,
and then they'll find a way to just keep on playing,
keep on playing, and then tournamental roll around and there'll
be a three seed or a four seed and playing
great basketball going in. You're like, oh, and the one
thing I can promise you that they'll never you're not
(07:10):
going to beat them at very very often is they
will physically pound you. That is who they've been built on.
Watch is Tomill run practice date. They will get after
you physically, they always do, and they're going to defend
you and they knocked down it's you know, they play
relentless basketball like Houston does. Maybe not as contest every shot,
but they are physical on the backwards.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
They always are.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
And that's the team that's hovering in the teens right now.
That every and I always take advantage of. I always
take advantage. I think good coaching in college basketball does matter.
You know, in the NBA sometimes you wonder, well you
rolling the ball, how much do and I think it does.
But you sometimes wonder, right, I mean, how you're going
to coach Jordan and give them the ball in the
(07:53):
pressure and say, set a pick for him and let
them get open, or come off a curl and knock
down a three, or knock down a shot at the
elbow extension, right, but you know the free throw line
extended one of those.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
But this is this is.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Coaching matters in college basketball, and we see it here
all the time with coach Sampson and look around. You
mentioned Texas Tech, they mentioned Texas A and M they're
well coached. So but a team like Michigan State, as
we get closer, they just they just throttle you and.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
They beat on you and beat on you.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
And then you know, if the scores in the fifties,
Michigan State is going to be in them all.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
They always seem to be.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
So that's the type of team you look for it
and say, oh, speaking of betting, we'll get some odds
on them, and you will.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Michigan's right in Michigan's.
Speaker 6 (08:40):
Michigan and Michigan State both are jumping up in the
rankings once twelve one's fourteen.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Is those the type of team you don't want to
play at this time just because and especially if you
get them like early in a tournament or you play
them in the conference tournament, they they just beat on you.
And that's a team You say, how did they how
did they do this? Yeah, and they just find a
way because he gets he maximizes the most his roster.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
He always does.
Speaker 6 (09:04):
Looking up and down these rankings for college of basketball,
Yukon not even ranked.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
They're not very good this year.
Speaker 7 (09:09):
Man.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
I watched I'm telling I watched that game against Seaton Hall.
They did some of the dumbest things I know, in
back national back to back in some of the things
that they do. They turn the ball over too much.
They look like they don't know how to run an
offensive set at times, and again then they turn the
ball over again. They don't make shots like it's it
(09:31):
know what it looks like. It looks like they're undisciplined,
and I know that's not how a Dan Hurley team is,
but man, they just at times, I'm like, against seen Hall,
seen Hall coming into that game on Saturday, one conference
win and they took Yukon to overtime and beat them.
And at times I was like, are these dudes, they
couldn't inbound the ball.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I just sat there and watched the team.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
You start to wonder, and I know rosters changed, but
after winning back to back, you wonder if there's a
any sense of complacency, like like we we this is we,
we got ours. The rest is gravy, not from him.
But sometimes that that's easy to create. It is because
you build in an excuse. Think when you're sick and
(10:15):
you got to go play a ball game. Sometimes you
play your best. You do because you don't. You don't,
you don't thinking about the game. No, I told you,
I've said this story multiple times. My best game in
college I was violently hung over.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah, because your mind didn't get in your way.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
All I could think about was don't throw up, don't
throw up?
Speaker 9 (10:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
And then and and you end up playing your best
game because your mind is your mind's somewhere else. Now
the opposite is true here. After you win a couple,
what would human nature say? And and you've heard Nick
Savid says, human nature is too We're good, We've arrived.
And then to miss the little things. And this basketball team,
unlike Danny Hurley's normal teams, is doing the little things.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Wrong, not right.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
They couldn't sand out and they're talented enough on the roster.
They don't have you know, three one and douns, and
they're gonna have to be a lot of repick. They
don't have those guys right now in that round they've got.
You have to play great team concept with his team
this year, because they're one guy who say, oh, that's
the third pick of this draft, and they're playing like it.
They play like a team that has the ring on
(11:19):
their finger. Whether they do or not, it looks like
it like there's a sense of oh, I don't need
to worry about it's a built in excuse you give
yourself when you're sick, go play with. It's like, oh,
even if I don't play well, it's gonna be okay.
In this case for them, it's well, we've won two
yeah maybe a freshman. You haven't won one yet, but
we want too. So hey, okay, what's the worst that
(11:39):
can happen. We got a hall past year, and we
come back and do it again next year and get
our hunger back. That is that human nature to creep
in and you've got to fight the old man.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Like they will.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
As the song says, you got to keep the old
man out, man, and in this case, you got to
keep complacency out. And it's hard to do because human
nature says, I can relax.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
I got mine.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
That's the way it works, and it takes a Hence
why Kansas City Chiefs didn't They look a lot like
Yukon play doing the little things wrong in the Super
Bowl going for three in a row, all the pressure
that mounts, everybody's asking all the questions, and you allowed
distractions to get in the way. And it's almost as if,
I mean, how critical are you going to be of
the Chiefs they've won two of three?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Right? Are you really? If they lose it?
Speaker 1 (12:18):
And you'd be critical for a minute, but you're not
going to ride their asses if there a third in
a row that they lost.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
So the human nature, and that's the hardest thing to
do is fight yourself mentally to get complacent and say, oh,
you know what, we won the last two.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
It's a big deal.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Now we're playing on house money. Players should never think
house it's not house money.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
It just isn't right. Although, oh house money, man, they've
won two in a row.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, no, no, no, super it's a whole different season, whole
new thing because the last thing, now we remember Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Have they lost their edge?
Speaker 6 (12:47):
That's what we're talking about now, Yeah, because honestly, like
I guess, when they got beating every category, they got,
they got their ass everywhere, everything and everything. Now, one
of the first things we talked about, you said, you've
seen you said, I've seen teams. How did you You
talked about the Seahawks and how they had that back
to back lost to the Patriots and then they just
(13:09):
go with it out.
Speaker 7 (13:10):
Man.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Well, Tom Brady almost that what we're saying in a
podcast or something yesterday he said, they don't they better
prepare what they're about to face after what happened to them.
That I mean, it's true. I'm paraphrasing, but that's that's
a fact. Yeah, that that crap happens all the time.
It doesn't happen all the time because very few times
are you in a position to get a third one right.
But it's easy to do, and you can start to
(13:33):
build in reasons why and then you say, well, they
come back, but they're going to have Those things can
linger just as much as a Super Bowl win can
be a hangover because the banquet circuit, it can be
a worse hangover on a loss that you didn't expect.
And it wasn't a loss. It was an ass kicking.
I mean, it was a full blown there was no
standing eight count. They knocked their ass out. Kansasity beat
(13:53):
him in one thing, and it really didn't beat him
because kans City didn't run the ball, but defensively, the
Kansa City Chief defense, even though he had a lot
of touches in the game, prevented Saquon Barkley from taking
the game over.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, they did what you said. You said you couldn't do.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
The other guys better not go Scottie Pippen and Robin
on you, And they did. Hurtz, did aj Brown, did
Devine all the other guys who knew that they were
gonna have to make a play of Sakuon Barkley didn't
dominate the game with numbers, he did with touches. Yeah,
then they knew they had to do it, and they
they answered every ounce of adversity if there was any.
But the problem is there wasn't a lot of it
(14:30):
for them in the game because they created all the
adversity for Kansas City. Yeah, Kansas City looked like a
team that didn't do the little things, and Yukon's doing that.
Remett Listen, rebound and played disc defense. You got a
chance to go wherever you want to go in the
NCAA two A tournament. And it's not sometimes the most
I don't look at Yukon as the most talented team
in America. But you know what they did do They
played their best at the right time, and they got
(14:53):
hot in the tournament. And you roll off six in
a row and you're good to go, and it could
happen in this tournament too, and then you just got
to knock down a few key shots at the right time.
But if you rebound and play defense, you will have
a chance to win every game in the churn.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
You just will.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
We are the superstars, got to take over and we're
a little less than a month away from marsh Madness.
Can't wait, man, It'll be here before you know it.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
The Houston Astros have agreed to bring in a former
gold Glove or some late breaking news last night.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Who is it? We'll talk about it next.
Speaker 10 (15:23):
Sean Salisbury Bryan The Sewn Salisbury Show continues go on
Sports Talk seven ninety. You know buddy Rabbit is no
what who's Buddy rabbit?
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Eight mile? Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Okay, you talk Buddy Ray. I got you Buddy rabbit.
But if he didn't, you know, I don't know who
any rabbits Ed Rabbit. Il am ed Rabbit and it
just makes him sound like it's a completely different guy.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
If you say ed and Eddie.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Remember the cartoon ed Ed and Eddied underrated cartoon, great cartoon.
So that's ed Rabbit. I can't believe you know anything
about ed Rabbit. That's weird. No, you make it. You
made it sound like Buddy rabbit. It's bigger than Eddie Rabbit. Well,
he loves the rainy nights. It's a beautiful sight.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
That is you.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
You really don't for for a guy who's semi well,
you're not really the cutbaster.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
You gotta got some music in your book.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Yeah, I know who Eddie Eddie Uh, Eddie money, Eddie money, Yeah,
you know who Eddie money is? Yeah van Halen, No,
that would be Eddie van Halen's Okay, No, it's not
Eddie money is not any boys.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
You don't know who any ed money is?
Speaker 7 (16:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (16:37):
I do name a song.
Speaker 9 (16:40):
You takes to paradise.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
You just hit Ed Buddy on your Google? Did you No?
Speaker 2 (16:45):
I did not?
Speaker 1 (16:46):
No, I really don't.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
You didn't go ahead? Yeah, there you go. Ed Buddy
is to take.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Stuff in front of me? Is what I was good?
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Or I was making sure Ed Rabbit and Ed Buddy you.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Take us to paradise right now?
Speaker 2 (17:00):
That's him?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Huh yeah yeah, any guns and roses or something?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Who had money?
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I just know him? Is that money?
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Eh?
Speaker 9 (17:08):
Dude?
Speaker 7 (17:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Yeah, there you go. So you don't know who had rabbit?
Is h What do you got for me on these strokes?
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Man, some late breaking news.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
I know the news, but I want to hear it
again so the peeps can respond.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Is it you think it really moves a needle? Could?
There you go? It could? I don't know who knows?
Speaker 6 (17:26):
Man it Also, it just makes this whole Altuve and
left field thing a little more interesting. Hovel to hose
the al toove Ove Altuve, Houston Astros and former Colorado
Rocky second baseman Brendan Rodgers have agreed to a minor
league deal. Ari Alexander of KPRC two Sports broke the
news last night. Uh, he gets that minor league deal.
(17:49):
It's an invitation of spring training, it's pending of physical
uh Sean, I what do you know about Brendan Rodgers?
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Very minimal? Same So I was looking at his stuff
early this morning. If you're asking me what his strengths
and weak this is why I can't tell you. I've
obviously seen him play.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
But he had a good twenty twenty four season two
sixty seven, thirteen home runs, twenty nine doubles, seven to
twenty ops. He played in one hundred and thirty five games,
and he in twenty twenty three, he was he had
shoulder surgery. Twenty twenty two, he won the Gold Glove
for second baseman over in the NL.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
So good defensive player I've seen.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
I've obviously seen him play, but I wouldn't be able
to tell you if he's going to be an impact
player here. I mean, signed to a minor league contract.
He's got a lot of work to do to prove it.
I guess, yeah, Well, if he can raise game off
a good season, So if he hits two sixty seven,
two seventy again, you'll take it. He'll be hitting better
than Dubon, Jake Myers, Chad mccorman, Chad mccorman. Yeah, okay,
(18:52):
hell of a player, all that mccorman guy. And he'll
also give you some good glove work, yes, which is nice.
Versatility was yeah yeah. Other than that, well, I mean
it would be great. That'd be one of those hidden
gyms you got late and said, damn, he signed to
a minor league contract. He impressed in spring training. Let's go.
Speaker 6 (19:09):
Yeah, so you have you have him now bringing in
another infielder. And again, if for whatever reason, not you
or me or Triple le, but if you're an Astros fan,
jose Al Tuvay is playing left field, if you had
any doubts or if you were still not buying into
all the videos that were posted yesterday, he's worked exclusively
with the outfielders and that's really it. He's playing left field.
(19:30):
That's another reason they're probably bringing in this guy, Brendan Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
It makes you think he's gonna be the everyday left fielder.
He's gonna play a lot left field.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
About that. You know, we open up the season.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
If he's leading off and playing the left field, they're
not just doing it. You're not gonna need a day
or rest on an opening day. So it's not like
they're resting somebody in the field.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
No, he's playing.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Let him out there. That's the lineup they want. Yeah,
because that's the lineup if everybody's healthy. You like, that's
the lineup. You go with your best when you open
it up, and you go with where you think I
mean and what it is spotted. The manager to be
very he doesn't want a lot of lineup changes, right.
I like to see it more consistent and sustain that consistency.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
So what does that tell you about Josel too? He
season in.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Left field, The majority of the games in left field
will be played by him.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
That's what that tells me. Wow, it's gonna happen. Good
for good for Brandon Rodgers though, getting himself another chance.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Hey, sometimes those guys got a they feel like they
got something to prove.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
You go down there and you got something to prove,
and you get the best of a veteran or somebody
who's done it for a minute, huh, And you get
the best of them because they know how to get
themselves ready. It's crazy, man.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Our guy Ryan just tweeted me and he said Eddie
Rabbit was a famous country singer He was scheduled to
play the Houston Rodeo back in the day, but had
to cancel last minute. Everyone who had Eddie Rabbit tickets
was upset to find out that he had been replaced
with a young artist by the name of George Straight Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Oh on that day, ed Rabbit passed it up because
he wasn't feeling well.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
Uh, he just said, just said he had to cancel.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
It must have been you know sometimes they get a
voice issue or something too much booze than I before.
You know, that'll that or you gotta smoke a couple
of grits. Yeah, knocked down a couple of grits. So
the guy that replaced him in the lineup, that's good
with the historic comment by Rhino there by Ryan so phenomenal.
And then the guy who replaced that and let's just
throw this young kid named George straight on here. Yeah,
(21:26):
how'd that turn out? He went from the young kid
to the king. He's all right, but you know what
all zed Rabbit did was assist. So he threw him.
You know what he did, He dropped the dime on
him and he finished at the rim. Well, I mean,
George is dunked at home. Well, I mean you look
at George Strait's career. It's literally been historic, so.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
That really has it? Really has?
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Ed Rabbit ain't done half bad himself now, Eddie Rabbit,
he loves the rainy nights.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
It's been a good run.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
But how about that story, Oh the guy that replaced
Eddie Rabbit because he couldn't make it that night, had
to cancel.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Was George straight?
Speaker 7 (21:54):
Great?
Speaker 1 (21:55):
And you know what wealthy useless knowledge? But it's not useless.
I like it, Ryan, Thank you?
Speaker 6 (21:59):
Is uh George Strait doing his uh Cowboy Rides Away
tour again?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Or is that postpone he retired, Yeah, for.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
The third time. I'm telling you. Twenty years ago they
told him I was thinking about conscience. Hey, George face
his last run. This is his last concert. We want
he said, the last concerts?
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Maybe more.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
It's his last contract, goes to Texas A and M
and fills the stadium. It's the largest contract crowd ever. Okay,
you know what I'm gonna retire. It's the coach who's
in college threatens to go to the NFL, but he
didn't plan to leave it.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
He gets a new contract.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
George is the king in a lot more ways than
just being the King Country.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Hey, man, I I had this my last tour.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Yeah, but I'm gonna do fifteen more after this, and
I'm gonna make like four hundred million dollars on my
tour and then I'm you know, you get to go
to my Texas ranch and relax and then retire, or
at least tell him I'm retired about six months.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Latern't be out tour again.
Speaker 9 (22:59):
So you really don't.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
If you straight threats. This his last tour, don't worry
about it. Get tickets. Ten years from now, he'll still
be He'll still be touring. It's an okie dope. Man,
It's the greatest br move ever.
Speaker 11 (23:11):
We can't go without seeing Cowboy rides away tour tickets now,
how many horses sayes.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
He have years.
Speaker 12 (23:19):
Tour.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
It's perpetual. It's like a treadmill. But it gets our bad.
He blesses us what we don't want George straight after night,
but he keeps doing this. I'm gonna cry wolf till I.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
Missed he concert, He came to the he came to
the rodeo. It was like I'm telling you, like four
years ago, maybe twenty last time. No, it like the
tickets were insane because it was the Cowboy Rides Away
towards He literally ended the concert by playing the Cowboy
Rides Away. He gets on a horse and he rides out.
(23:50):
I want to say it was a two day show.
He ended the night before, the last night, and then
the last night, and it was like an extended concert
because you know, uh, the rodeo like it's a short
set list. No, not for George straight because it's supposed
to be his last go right, well, yeah, as much
as he wants. Like three years later he's in College
States playing the Kyle Field with freaking Parker McCollum set records.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Right, we're all grateful. Oh he did, he to retire.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
But when George says he's there'll be there's another tour coming,
there's another horse he's gonna ride out.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
We got a new horse, cowboy right away for George.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Hop on album too, for another two hundred night appearances
and go make yourself another half a billion dollars on
the tour.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Good for him, man, I don't hate him, No, you
don't hate him for it's all right.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Let's continue to talk about the Houston Astro seven one
three two five, seven ninety is the number to joins.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Roll along right here on seven.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Ninety were fact. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, It's got
the phone lines, John, welcome in, Good morning.
Speaker 7 (24:49):
Good morning guys.
Speaker 13 (24:50):
Hey, if Rodger's uh gets to seventy, that's better what
we're gonna get out of Breakman.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
So I'm excited about that pick up.
Speaker 9 (24:58):
And uh, I don't know.
Speaker 13 (24:59):
If you saw there, you the rhetoric is heating up
there in Boston. You know, Alexa Coral is saying that, uh,
you know, he's going to be his decision and whether
it's Devers playing third base or or Bregman and uh,
and Devers is not backing down. He's saying third base
is mine and that's where I'm gonna be. And you know,
I know it's kind of fun to watch. I think
(25:20):
there's more and more fuel being poured on that fire,
so we'll have to see what happens.
Speaker 7 (25:24):
I think.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Yeah, did you see gosh who was it?
Speaker 6 (25:29):
Uh one of the Red Sox they were They asked
him yesterday about Bregman or Devers and whose position it
is and the kids said, yeah, yeah, it's Devers. This
that's Dever spot. He's earned it, and he continues to
get better and better. It's like, damn, all you have
to say, dude, is yeah, that's an alex Core question.
But he answered it truthfully and said, no, Devers should
play third base and Bregman should play second.
Speaker 13 (25:52):
Well, we'll see, I mean, you know, like like uh yeah,
like like Coral said, you know, he was he was
just saying, that's gonna be my decision, and it's not.
Speaker 7 (26:00):
It's going to be a competition. It's got in there.
We'll see.
Speaker 13 (26:02):
I mean, that's what you was saying yesterday. And so
I mean, you know, I think I see two people
kind of like digging in their heels here a little bit,
and it'll be interesting.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
I mean, he'll probably end up at third, but I
mean it'll I don't know.
Speaker 13 (26:16):
Well, we'll have to see, but I think it's I
you know, personally, I love to just kind of blow
up myself, but I mean, we'll see what happens and.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Give us who they asked.
Speaker 13 (26:27):
Yeah, it gives a little drama to the season, right,
So yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
So appreciate. Yeah, I appreciate. Let's talk to Kenny. What's up, Kenny?
Speaker 14 (26:38):
Hey, Hey, hey, everybody doing this morning. Hey, I don't
have any problem with the two ways it left. The
only problem I'm will have is just all they're going
to be tested his off. They go to stretch him,
they going to tour the single or double into a single.
They're going to make him know that ball sacrifices. You know,
(27:01):
that's the only problem you're I'm gonna have without two ball.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Let me ask you.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Let me ask you a question, Kenny.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
Here's your starting outfield, Chas McCormick and right, Jake Myers
and center Jose Altuvey and left. Who has the best arm?
It's ow two. It's not even hesitated. It's how too
ve That's how bad those arms are. Yeah, you ever
seen Jake myerstrol baseball.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
But understand the best arm of those three doesn't exactly
constitute a good arm. Right, Well, that's that's the lesser
of the three evils when it comes to an arm.
And real quick on this, Kenny. I'm with you on this.
And while al twov may have the best arm of
the three, if I'm playing against them, I'm challenging their
arm all the time. That's what if I'm on set,
(27:46):
if I if I turn the corner at third and
it's in between. I'm gonna make al Toovey make a
great throw. I'm gonna make McCormick from right field make
a great throw, or somebody from uh you know, or
Myers from centerfield. I am winning down up. If I'm
playing the Astros outfield as we sit right now, I'm
running on them. I'm gonna make them make not only
an accurate throw, but a throw that's got some velocity
(28:07):
on it, because that is a major weakness. They're arms.
It's pop gun arm compared to some of the other teams.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
That's what it is.
Speaker 14 (28:14):
Even a routine single test it into a double yea.
My only problem I got. But but anyway, guys, I'll
just have to call it and time in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Appreciate you, buddy, And like I said, and l TV
may make a few plays, but until they prove to
me otherwise they're getting run on. I'm I'm challenging every
single arm they got, and that means, you know that
gapper that you have to go and either the center
fielder has to backhand or not. I'm not talking about
to dive and catch backhand whereas momentum is taking him
(28:48):
towards left field, or the left fielder is going, but.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
He gets to do on his easy way.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
But it's in the gap where you gotta reach for it,
and then you've got to flip your hips and throw
a second.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Somebody who can somebody who's got.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
A little bit of wheels and hits as where it's
not a rip shot but one that kind of scoots
on the grass and gets to the to the gap.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
But you can come left hand to take a second.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
When I hit it in the gap against the Astros,
I'm thinking double all the time. Until they proved to
make and first a third to right field or a
ball in the corner. You're gonna make them make an
accurate throw. Like I said, Jake Myers can defend, but
until they prove to me otherwise, it ain't like you know,
Vlad Guerrero seniors in right field, or robtal Clemente or
Dewey Evans from Boston right or each hero exactly. Or
(29:32):
you got somebody like like a Griffy Man in center
field and running things down, or do your outfield so
good you have to move a guy like back in
the day, Jesse Barfield the left field. Even though he's
a right fielder, because you had three outfielders that you
want to have out there in the best arms by him.
But Barfield was obviously always a right fielder. But arms
(29:53):
like that, you knew you couldn't challenge to Dave Parker's
in the world. But now, hell, if it's hit in
front of me, I'm still gonna look you right in
the face. I'm gonna get the third before you throw
me out. I'm challenging every arm and that includes alt
two base because if he's the strongest, this is going
to be a challenge for them in the outfield like
it is. Jazz, Chaz McCormick and Jake Myers do not
(30:15):
have good arms.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
That's six dude.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
My arm, after all these years being out is stronger
than all three of us. I know still to I'm
talking about now.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Now.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Now, I can't move to the gap and get it
like they can. But if you just want to get
loose and throw to the bases and I don't beat
it there, my ball is getting there before there. Yeah,
it's not even after. Like I said, you know what
I'm saying. There's just a certain thing. When I know
what happened, I catch an idiot. I ain't track it
down any ball in the gap right now, but I'll
that and that's that's not good. No, my prime whole
(30:44):
different story. But even now, you and I play at
catch like I mean, two best guys host morning show
and throwing people out. You get my point though, whether
it's a challenge or not, they've got to that that's
going to be a point of contention if they're not careful.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
And real quick on what John said. Tristan Asses yesterday
made it clear that Rafield never should be the third baseman.
Alex Bergman should play second, and he also said that
Devers is the best third basement in baseball.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
When he literally has the Gold Glove winner on his
roster on his team. Now that that's that's just having
a guy. Plus he doesn't want anybody to say, hey,
Devers might play first base because that's his position.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
So I mean, all you have to say, look transparency.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
I think he's as good as hitters as in baseball,
and he's and every it seems he's gotten better every
year at third base. Leave it that.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Please don't tell us he's the best.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Now if you're talking about the best hitting third basement
in baseball.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I can make that argument absolutely no doubt.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
But when you say, overall, the guy that's fielding ground
balls at second base is better than him with one
eye closed fielding the fielding the baseball.
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Oh man, yeah, there's there's uh, there's more. Uh, Like
I said, drama and risks. It's not that's not going
away any time.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
No, it's not, man, No, it's really And.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
The second and the second hard grounded you know, gets
the one that's skips by his glove. That's basically a
routine play to his left, and everybody's gona look, und say,
Bragmant would have got it. And then if it happens
twice in a game, it's gonna be like, oh hell no,
here goes And then there's you know, the fight's not
over the first air and where the scene starts, it's
all settled down. Yeah, first of all goes between his
(32:17):
legs or under his love or he mixed throwing air.
You know what's coming. Yeah, Bragman wouldn't have done that.
Uh huh, that's coming, big tah, No question about no question.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
Dana Brown spoke to the Matt Thomas Show yesterday and
he talked about the weaknesses out in the outfield. What
do the general manager have to say? We'll here and

Speaker 10 (33:50):
War Sewn Salisbury, It's a Shawn Salisbury show.
Speaker 6 (33:56):
Uh from Astro spring training today and Dana Brown spoke
about the bullpen in the outfields. Looks like there might
be some decisions to make. This is what Dana Brown
had to say.
Speaker 15 (34:07):
You know, obviously the bullpen, you know, with making a
move for Presley, you know trading Presley opened up a
spot there, right, so we we definitely have some room
to talk about you know, what our what is our
pin going on? Quite and then you know outfield wise,
you know, how are we going to be platoon? Is
McCormick you know gonna really you know, get back to
(34:30):
this twenty twenty three year.
Speaker 7 (34:32):
So I think those two.
Speaker 15 (34:34):
You know spots like you know outfield and also relief
pitching is where the room, you know, we have to
make our decisions.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
There you go, there's a Dana Brown. The biggest thing
that I took from that Sean is the word platoon.
We're going to go into the year twenty twenty five,
brand new season and we're talking about a platoon outfield.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
That will mean a lot of lineup changes.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
This is exactly what Joe spoted and want somebody's got
to rear their head, you know what, it's to the
point now or if you want to just buy you
go take it. I mean, you know, the guy if
there's competition, just goes. If it's one of these young guys,
go take it. And but it happens to be like
a Katie veteran, then you like to think he earned it.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
But I'm just not.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
I don't know, dude, I'm just teams that platoon a
lot of players bother. Yeah, I don't I like to play.
I like to play when I like to play to
get him some work. I don't like it to be
a must. Whereas the constant platooning that that you've you've
been on the show with me for years. I don't
like going to the dugout in one hundred and forty
times during year.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
The lineup's different.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
It just it's it's like enough, Yeah, I've seen enough
of it. I just if a guy's not producing, you
don't play somebody else until that guy. You know, then
that's particularly you want to go into the scene and
saying this is my lineup, somebody take it away from him.
I'm always looking, as I've said, always looking to find
better players, and if i I'm the player, I'm always
(36:01):
looking to make sure you can't find a better player.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
It's not personal, it's not insensitive, it's not disrespectful. It's
called lining up my best twenty plus guys on a roster.
And it's the same in every sport. But if you're
giving out to go take it. I always say this,
if you don't want to sit down from your age
kids to the guys that are playing on every day,
one hundred and sixty two of them, if you don't
(36:26):
want to take it, keep it. Yeah, play better, that's
exactly right.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
So well, I you know I'm only four hundred bats in.
Well that's pretty good sample sized, buddy. Yeah, if you're
hitting one ninety seven. I can't play it. No, now,
I can't play it. Okay, I get it. I love you,
but you're a good guy. I can't play it.
Speaker 6 (36:44):
Yeah, but you've also shown me that you're not hitting
was that's a that's on you, right.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
I don't see at the end of the year when
they cloud crown the World Series champion. I don't ever
remember the MVP. Mister congeniality was part of it. That
doesn't mean you're being a I'm just saying it's about production,
not potential.
Speaker 7 (37:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
Potential gets you in. Production keeps you in. So if
you want it, if you want to be one of
those guys, you're not a platoon outfielder. I got a
real good idea. Be selective, put the ball in play,
get on base and defend, and then you'll they'll find
a place you'll platoon from the left field to right
field or or you know, left field the second base.
You won't have to share. Make it miserable on a
(37:25):
manager to have to make a decision. Yeah, and you
know you get miserable and then make the miserable on
him to have to ever pull you out of the
lineup for one day, even because you're raking.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
That's how you fix it.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
You talked about the consistency in the lineup, right, we've
we've talked about it with Joe Spot at Ashles FanFest.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (37:42):
When was the last time they really had a consistent
lineup here? Think about it. Dusty Baker never had it,
Joe A Spot of last year didn't have it. Well,
the last timing on the show with you in three
years now, we've never seen an astro's consistent lineup. It
always changes. One hundred and twenty plus. I read the
number did Joe Spot of Fanfast It was like one
hundred and thirty something. That's not one hundred and forty.
(38:05):
That's not enough. That's no, that's too much. I want
that to be the consistency of a normal lineup. Yeah,
last one hundred and forty different? Yeah, sorry, I forgot
to put different in it. Yeah, that bothers me.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Now you said, hey, we're gonna play one hundred and
forty four games of one hundred and forty five games
the same lineup, Okay, yeah, the same guys and maybe
one played second base, one played left field because.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
You're offensive order, right Yeah?
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Yeah, and if I do if I have to tweak
a guy from five to six because this matchup's not
good for him.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
He's hit No.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Ninety one, but I want him in there against this
guy over the last eight at bats, Right, But I
tweak it, not the other way around. We're twenty games.
It's the continute that it's the lineup you started the
season with twenty games. No, I need one hundred and
forty of the regular lineup and five or six or
seven of same lineup, different batting order, and then fifteen
(38:54):
or whatever's left of platooning and moving guys around. Yeah,
that's what I want. I want it to be a
shock when the lineup card looks different, not the other
way around.
Speaker 6 (39:04):
I have the number here. I'm going back through a
couple of my notes. I want to say it was
like one hundred and forty three. I thought it was
in the one hundred and forties when he told it.
That's what I thought. I thought.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
He told us it was like one hundred and forty
plus games last year that they had a different line
They had one hundred and forty different lineups.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
I got it here somewhere. I know they do too many.
Speaker 6 (39:23):
Let's see, Yeah, because what the Ashros do is when
they send out their game notes to the media, it
shows how many different lineups are there. So I remember
looking last year, the very last one.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
It's between one hundred and forty one hundred and fifty
I'm almost positive.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
And Dusty Baker's was right there too.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Yeah, and it's I mean, I understand you're trying to
mix and match and get other guys work. Trying to
get other guys work one hundred and forty times a year,
it's too much.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
They tells you.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Well, I'll be honest with you, if you look at
the runners in scoring position, it told when you're doing
that with your hitting order in lineup, you know what,
it tells you that you're not achieving the goals you want.
That's why runners left scoring position, not getting the clutch
hit when you wanted to.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
And what was their weakness last year?
Speaker 7 (40:04):
That?
Speaker 1 (40:04):
So what what do you do? You're either moving the
lineup around too much just to make it fit, or
you had to move the lineup around because they weren't raking.
So whatever that is, you can't too many lineups to
me doesn't feel like success.
Speaker 6 (40:19):
One hundred and forty seven last year, there you go
one hundred and forty seven different.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
I think with us fifteen games left, Yeah, they won
one hundred and fifty one hundred and forty seven line,
so I think that's right. Fifty we played one sixty two,
you have fifteen of them fifteen. Yeah, that's way too many.
It should be the other way around, right in my opinion,
unless there's a freak injury or so. I just I,
you know what, I don't like it, and the reason
(40:47):
why so many last year, I'm just telling you they
were trying everything they could to find an offense that
would go three, four, five games.
Speaker 6 (40:52):
In a row, and they couldn't find it. Chaz had
an awful year, couldn't stay healthy. Jake Myers continues to
be mid He just not he just defensively right. Defensively,
he's elite. Offensively is not very good. Dubon is inconsistent
as hell, up and down. Offensively, He'll come out and
he'll twenty game hit streak, and then he'll fall off
the face of the earth. And then you had, you know,
(41:13):
the struggles with the runners in score position from everybody.
You had Alex Bregman with another cold start, Kyle Tucker
missed half the damn season. And that's what you get,
one hundred and forty seven different starting lineups because they were,
like you said, they were trying anything and everything.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Do Zenzo came up, Shay Whodham came up. They, I mean,
the consistency of it all got signed. Even three or
four five games in a row where the offense was
raking was few and far between, right, So.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
I remember how maddening that was. Yeah, oh my gosh.
Speaker 7 (41:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Well and they still won the division.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Yeah, that's why. That's why I kind of liked that.
The odds of possible win of the division still, yeah,
because the pitching is going to be the difference.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
But right, they won't.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
They won't win the division now without Bregman and Tucker,
even though Tucker was out a lot last year. They
won't win the division if they if they hit like
they did last year. Yeah, they they they're not. They're
just not gonna be good in it. That's way too
much burden to put on a pitching staff again, Yeah,
way too much. They got they gotta be. They're gonna
have to be better or they won't win the division.
(42:14):
It's too tough. You you'd have to rely on your
pitching staff to be so good that three of them
are pitching in the All Star Game. Yeah, I'm talking
about your starting pitchers, right. You just can't do it.
Speaker 6 (42:24):
Seven much seven one, three, two two five, seven ninety
is the number to join. We'll get back out to
the phone lines. We'll also continue to talk about these astros.
Jo Aspata talks about Jordon Avaaz Jordon Alvarez. Could you
have a better season this year than last? Whoo buddy.
Speaker 2 (42:39):
We'll talk about ord on next on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 10 (42:41):
Eighty KBMS Houston ABHD two Houston, an iHeart radio station,
the Astros, Star Rockets, Crockets, your home for your home teams.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
This is Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 12 (42:55):
Ninety A, right.
Speaker 11 (43:02):
Old Houston.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Sewn Salisbury usc Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Ryan Lima,
go Lobo.
Speaker 5 (43:14):
This is the Sewn Salsbury Show.
Speaker 6 (43:19):
I tell you what, boys, it's gonna be really really
cold today. It's uh, it's thirty five right now. We're
gonna get gusts of forty nine hour wins this morning
and all day. So I phone that when you get
out there on the golf game Union Golf today.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
I'll pass today.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
I know you're scared of me even now.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
The thing is I can go and play Pebble Beach
or one of those golf courses at the PGA Tour Superstar.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Yeah, subscription can go in there and play.
Speaker 1 (43:47):
So maybe when I say I'm not playing I'm not
playing eighteen holes outdoors, doesn't mean I won't swing a
club or possibly go do that just depends on the
on the schedule.
Speaker 6 (43:56):
As they say in Canada, there's gonna be as clowns
that are gonna try to go plague off today.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Courses won't let them on thirty eight degrees. Yeah, I mean,
I guess, But if it's it's just I don't know
who wants to go out and battle that. No, you're
not doing anything for your game. No, it's not enjoyable.
The carts don't have heaters, right, Okay, So yeah, I
mean I would imagine for the most part, maybe after
(44:21):
yesterday's ragin on the freeze today that they're not going
to want to let car. First of all, you're gonna
if you did go, you ain't getting on the course,
your cart path at it, And that's even more miserable.
Your hands are miserable and most courses depending on it.
Don't want you to damage that course at this time
of year, you.
Speaker 6 (44:37):
Know, So we'll see, yeah, going out on this for
the rest of the weekend.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
I get paid to play in the British Open indoors
I'm in.
Speaker 7 (44:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
So the TGL is that what it's called. Last night
it fun to watch. That'd be so fun, man. It
is very very entertaining, that's for sure, no doubt. And
tomorrow days Wednesday, r yeah, because it's Western Wednesday. Tomorrow night,
you got the Canadians taking on the Americans in the
Nation's face off finals.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
Can't wait. Can't wait either, man. I hope they throw some.
Speaker 4 (45:07):
A lot of.
Speaker 7 (45:09):
That one.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
Yeah, that that will happen. I imagine at some point.
I can't wait to watch that one tomorrow night, all right.
Speaker 6 (45:15):
Talking about these Houston Astros, Jordan Alvarez obviously one of
the most feared hitters in baseball. He got ranked number
seven out of the top one hundred by MLB dot
Com or excuse me, MLB Network. Well, Joe Spatta talked
about your don could he have a better year this
year than he did last year?
Speaker 2 (45:32):
This is what the manager had to.
Speaker 16 (45:34):
Say, okayse he had a really good year off So
he told me the same thing, and I'm like, dude,
you know that's how that's how good he is. Like
all our off you know, we did some good things
the second half offensively, but there's there's ways for us
that we can improve for and I'm you know, we
highlighted those things and we're gonna concentrate on those things
(45:54):
and we're gonna improve.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
In those areas. But yeah, he wants more.
Speaker 16 (45:58):
He thinks that, you know, I think he's he can
drive to ballmore. He said at times where he's you know,
there were some singles, doubles, not really slugging the way
he's capable of.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
So he identified some areas and.
Speaker 16 (46:10):
He swing and and he's mechanics that he can maintain
that swing throughout the whole entire season.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
So when the big boy says that, you get.
Speaker 6 (46:18):
Excited, Sean, you'd on Alvarez last year thirty five home runs,
three h eight average, eighty six RBIs on base of
three ninety two, slugging a five sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
That's an ops of nine fifty nine.
Speaker 6 (46:32):
And he said to the media through his interpreter yesterday
or through his translator yesterday, that he felt like he
has another gear. And then you hear Skip talk about
Jordan Alvarez and some things that he could do better
than what we've seen.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 11 (46:46):
No?
Speaker 2 (46:46):
I believe first off, eighty six rbrs aren't enough for that.
That's not enough. I agree, that's the one that could go.
Theyve got to be around one hundred and ten.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
But in that twenty Yeah, that the theme of the
team last year, no question, not a lot of them
in for him to drive them in. With great hitters
like him, if he'd hit three ten, three h nine,
whatever it is, and hit forty five home runs and
drove in one fifteen, he'd say there's another gear. Yeah,
And I think he's right. You could always get better
at selection. And it's funny the guy. We talk about
(47:16):
his slugging percentage in ops. We talked about driving the
ball and it's slugging. It were a single, you know,
you get a base runner. But now we're putting the
expectation on dude. When there's a chance to hit a single,
you make sure you rip that thing. We he doubles
at home runs, which is but he'll put that on him.
But he's a hitter first and a power guy second second.
That's not the other way around. This is the most
like people don't realize that about Jordon Alvarezez. It is
(47:39):
meaning outside. It's special. Yeah, it really certain guys that
are like him. When you're a guy who's a five
hundred home run guy, what what I mean by that
is you're gonna you're you're it's prodigious power. But when
he first came up out of minders, I remember people
talking about all the power, the power of the power,
and then you don't realize until you watch him in person.
(48:00):
The power is a no brainer. Yeah, it's the punching
the ball to left field on a pitch that's away
instead of trying like a lot of power guys do, Yeah,
to pull it. And if you're a guy that hits
the ball to if you're a right handed hitter and
you like power the opposite the way, you love that
outside and you can drive the ball.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
But they're always looking. He can drive any pitch, is
my point.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
You know, left handers like that low inside stuff that
they can turn on right. But he's hit this ball
just as hard the other way as he'll do on
a dead pull right, But it's his ability to understand
power hitters. When you're a prodigious power and you feel
he has a great feel for this bat control and
the strike zone. Like a singles hitter, you get the
(48:44):
best of all worlds, and that's what he is.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
So I'm with him.
Speaker 1 (48:48):
I don't know if he's going to hit, but I
actually believe he's a triple crown type of guy. When
you averages hovering over pushing near three ten, you know,
you just say base runners fifteen more hits in a year,
and who the hell knows what kind of But he's
got that ability, he's he's got his eye and his
plate awareness. Is that that good? And then he's gonna
(49:08):
he's gonna run into home runs just by accident. And
I actually think thirty plus that's down for him. I
think he's a forty high thirties forty guy every year,
So I do I'm with him. Listen if he keeps
giving you that he's gonna be in the Hall of Fame.
But guys like him have higher expectations and that's another
reason why he's still frigging good. But he's a hitter
(49:31):
first and prodigious power second. When you can hit and
play control by bad control like a singles guy, but
you can punish teams with home runs and power.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
What's not the like?
Speaker 1 (49:41):
So I actually think there's now I don't know how
many base runners and what kind of people, how you're
gonna protect him in the lineup that's going to be important.
But I can tell you this that that guy will
stumble into three hundred and thirty five home runs. So
for him, that's just normal. What's appenue. What's probably where
his talent lies is in the early forties and then
(50:03):
the outline when we get up to fifty but up
driving in a buck ten buck twelve and hitting three
hundred and puts you in the MVP talk every year. Yeah,
that's how good he is. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (50:12):
I remember when he when he got caught up in
twenty nineteen. I was doing a Sunday show here at
seven to ninety left here, went over there to watch
him hit VP, got on the field, took some video
his first swing, Like you you know when something's different.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Right here, different south of it.
Speaker 6 (50:26):
Yes, first ball he hit was a ball up into
right field for a home run, just in MVP, And
I was like, oh man, this is okay, maybe he
is as big as his advertiser, right, and then he
hit a ball to left center onto the train tracks
and then like his last two rounds were just line
drives the left center field like nothing. Of course, he
(50:48):
turned on one right, just working on things, and he
was a rookie being called up. The ability that he
has to go the other way with pitches for a
big ass left handed quote unquote power hitter is insane.
Speaker 1 (51:01):
Well, he'll pump on the facing of an opposite field
second deck in second.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
In a second. It's wild.
Speaker 6 (51:06):
But his ability to just hit doubles if needed, or
punch one to the other way, like through that shift
that they used to have a ground ball to the
left field for a single. People don't realize that outside
of Houston, his ability to be able to do that.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
On a true d H. When's the last time you
saw DH command this? I mean where it was like
I'm talking about true. I don't look at Otani as
a d H.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
Do you know.
Speaker 1 (51:35):
I almost feel like when I that's exactly when I
hear d H, I automatically go to David Ortiz And
I'm gonna tell you right now, when it comes to
hitting and This is hard for me to say. Is
I'm talking about like just hitting, pure hitting. He's a
better hitter, David. David Ortiz was as good a big
time clutch hitter and punished you with the long ball
(51:56):
or douves. He was he and he got better. Otherwise
Minnesota does run him out when he's in Minnesota. You know,
early in his career power there and and big Poppy
became great at commanding the plate and the rest of it.
But just as a pure if you said, okay, neither
one of you guys can hit home runs, what hit
are you taking first on? Sure you are, so it's
but you know, oh Tani, I know he's a DH,
(52:17):
but I don't put you know, judges in every day
out there. I'm trying to think, and I know that
somebody Edgar Martinez was even before I'm talking about when
you combined power from that side of the plate. When's
the last time the true DH we saw that? And oh,
Toni's a freak show. Just move that aside.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
Who is it?
Speaker 7 (52:33):
Well?
Speaker 6 (52:33):
I mean you look at you look at Frank Thomas,
Jim Tomay in the.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
Same time that they're all in the same poppy, right,
and then there's Big Poppy, But who between Big Poppy
and Jordan from that side plate looked like him at
the plate. But a better singles hitter better than better commanded, right,
So that's what I'm saying. This is a special version
of this position. We got the thrills from Poppy and
(52:58):
Jordan gives the same ball prodigious power. But if you
said you're not allowed to hit a home run, you
got to keep the ball on the ballpark. Jordon's the
better hitter. Yeah, I'm taking Jordon, and I would I
would think that Poppy understand that Big Poppy was clutch
as it gets huh, But this guy's been clutched too
in postseason moments. So a lot of similarities. Jordon's just
a bigger, more physical stud. Yeah you look at saying
something because I am a you know, Big Poppy is
(53:20):
my guy man.
Speaker 6 (53:20):
But yeah, listen to as we get ready to go
to the stakeout for Jordon Alvarez in the postseason. His
numbers two ninety four average, three ninety three on base,
five fifty one slugging.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
That's an ops A nine to forty four.
Speaker 1 (53:33):
Yeah, he's he's If you ever question twelve bos and
he's been to big games and played in World Series.
If you ever question if the guy's big and big moments,
those those numbers aren't gonna lie to you.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
No, So he's covered it all.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Yeah. The only nay, Well, he doesn't play every day
in the outfield. Well, his impact every day and when
he plays the outfield, he played pretty damn well. Yea,
his impact that d H is immeasurable for this team.
It's insane.
Speaker 6 (53:58):
It's really pissed me off when it comes down to
his contract being up and they're not gonna extend him
because he's gonna price himself out.
Speaker 7 (54:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:04):
Really, that's the problem you're gonna have with if he
has a couple more monster seasons, you're gonna it's unfortunate.
But then you're looking at a forty five million dollars
a year guy and somebody's.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
Gonna pay it, and it's not gonna be here.
Speaker 1 (54:13):
Big, and they're gonna drop him in the middle of
the lineup and it's gonna be Yeah.
Speaker 6 (54:18):
You know, like when you look at when you look
at some of these players that have left, Okay, I
got Korea, I get Springer, Bragman, even Kyle Tucker being traded,
like I understand that this one. If it happens to
where Jordon continues to rake and they don't re sign him,
that's gonna.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
Actually piss me.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
Can I tell you all those names he has named,
none of them or even in the same area code
when it comes to pure hitter, yeah as this guy. No, huhuh,
none of them.
Speaker 17 (54:40):
No.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
And that's saying Karrea was pretty good hit. Yeah, and
he was, and he has been a really good hit
uff yeah. Right, and and and Springer had his moments
of big moments in big games and big big times. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (54:50):
None of those guys are as pure as this guy. No,
not at all, not at all. Let's get to the
stakeout next right here on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 2 (54:57):
Ninety back to down.
Speaker 7 (55:01):
Are you on juice?
Speaker 12 (55:02):
Bring the juice, Let's go.
Speaker 10 (55:04):
The Sean Salisbury Show continues definitely on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (55:14):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there now?
Speaker 10 (55:17):
The Salisbury's takeout shells by takeout on the.
Speaker 5 (55:22):
Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 1 (55:27):
It's time for the steak out.
Speaker 6 (55:28):
Here on the Sean Salisbury Show, Sean Brown and Tripley
stalk to Brando before we get to the steak out.
What's up, Brandon?
Speaker 1 (55:36):
Good morning, good night. Well that's that's that's nice.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
Oh yeah, that's right out of the gate man. We're happy.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
I like that.
Speaker 6 (55:45):
Ah good, good at that on the new couch. You
sleep on the new couch?
Speaker 3 (55:49):
Oh oh yeah, I'm on the ben.
Speaker 7 (55:53):
Catch Brandon.
Speaker 1 (55:54):
I had I had three dogs, one being one hundred
pound bully that was slipping on me all night. So
I didn't sleep as good as you. So good to
talk to you, brother, Appreciate you rubbing it in that.
I struggled with one hundred pound bully thinking it's his
bed and I've got one leg over falling off, hit
my head on the night stand.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
But other than that, like, we're glad.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
Yeah, I love it too.
Speaker 7 (56:18):
Well.
Speaker 1 (56:18):
I didn't sleep well, that's okay. But I like your style.
I like your style. What's on your mind today?
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Brother? How you doing?
Speaker 1 (56:26):
I'm okay?
Speaker 2 (56:29):
Come on, Brandy, Hey, come on, what do we got?
What do we got? Astros?
Speaker 4 (56:34):
Astros?
Speaker 2 (56:37):
Brandon? You got ten seconds, big dog?
Speaker 7 (56:38):
Come on?
Speaker 2 (56:39):
Come on, I'm so much pressure by you know. Yeah, look,
we got to be prepared so much.
Speaker 1 (56:46):
You're actually teach coaching him up along a little bit.
It it was today tough love. Today was tough love.
But come on, we got to be.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
Well, we love brand You gave a little tough love today.
Speaker 6 (56:56):
All right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, maybe come
out of the gate and saying, man, you're done.
Speaker 2 (57:01):
Not I slipped, well, rub it in your face.
Speaker 1 (57:05):
I mean I got scars on my eyes from rolling over,
hit my head on the dog on night Stand. But
Keela was cozy. Yeah, well it's all matter Brandon. Brandon
got a good night. He was cozy as well. Yeah,
tough sledding man, you'd be all right and we could.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
Get a kidd a diet an average white would you
call it? What do we called.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
The basic white guy get cozy at night?
Speaker 2 (57:26):
Clearly not Brandon did.
Speaker 1 (57:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Good for Brando man, damn.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
All right, all right, Triple let's get your let's run
that audio here.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
All right.
Speaker 6 (57:34):
So for the stakeout shoan, we're going to talk about
agents in professional sports. Obviously, you know better than anybody
with your career and with your media career, you've had
multiple agents.
Speaker 1 (57:43):
To agent since think about this, to you know, sports agent,
football agent, and then a broadcast agent since nineteen eighty six.
Speaker 6 (57:52):
So with that being said, Obviously, there's so much talk
about Scott Boris, Alex Bragman, Jordan Montgomery firing Scott Boris,
so forth, and so on on Wan Soto got his bag.
Speaker 12 (58:02):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (58:02):
Nick Castianos has left the Boris agency.
Speaker 7 (58:06):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
This is what Casiano said when he was asked why
he left.
Speaker 18 (58:11):
I think that just now I probably would want the
opportunity and to say, like, I'm not not ever going
to be represented again. You know, It's not like I'm
against having an agent. I just think that where it
was with Scott, I was at a point where, you know,
I just wanted the opportunity to speak for myself. You know,
I have no malice towards the forest organization at all.
(58:34):
I texted him congrats when that Soto contract came out.
Speaker 7 (58:37):
He's very good at what he does.
Speaker 18 (58:39):
But I think that as far as now, if anything
pertains to my career, I'd rather just have that conversation
with you know, my employer.
Speaker 8 (58:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (58:48):
Wow, this this offseason was like, hey, these trades came out,
is this true? You know, I can just go to
the person who would be trading and then when he
tells me no, you know, now I have that information.
Speaker 6 (59:02):
So that's Nick Castianos. So he dropped Boris after the
season ended. There was a couple of different things on
why he did. Obviously, you just heard straight from him.
He signed a five year, one hundred million dollar deal
before the twenty twenty two season. He still got a
couple of years left, but he gets rid of Scott
Boris now over in the NBA. Shay Gilgess Alexander one
(59:26):
of the top stars in the NBA. He parted ways
with his agent, Fad Fouchet of Wasserman and he's also
going to represent himself. So my question to you, Sean
is with all of your experience with a media agent
and an NFL agent or a football agent, are we
going to see more players representing themselves rather than going
(59:49):
through an agency.
Speaker 1 (59:52):
Yeah. I've had my media guy for a long time
and I love him. But sometimes a deal will come
your way, like a marketing deal or something. I do
it myself. I can tell you this. I'll just speak
for me. I think early on you don't want to
hear the negative they talk about and negotiation. You didn't
understand the fine print, you know, Rookie, You's like, I
don't know what I'm doing. Yeah, and then somebody does it,
and then you develop a relationship with them and you
(01:00:13):
almost get caught in that's just my guy. I'm just
sticking with him, and it becomes that you build a
relationship and they do a good job. But then there
also comes a time when they're negotiating, you say I
could have done this, maybe I could have done better.
I can negotiate my own contracts. A matter of fact,
with the deal that's that we talk about that it'll
be announced within the week nationally. I negotiate that entire
(01:00:35):
contract myself, and I'm actually more proud because it's it's
a did I did it and I and quite frankly,
it's as big a one as I've ever had in
my life. And my only reason I say that for
me doing it myself. And it's not even just it
was big moment for me, I guess, is what I'm saying.
The fulfilling part of I know I can do this,
and because after all these years, have I understand.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
The fine print?
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
You know that the thing I'm not worried about an
employer because negotiations, here's the greatest thing about it, or
the when I say greatest, I'm being facetious is they
tell you how bad well, why you don't deserve more money.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
You tell them why you do deserve more money, and
then you're.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
You're mad and frustration, and then you get it and
they're passionate and it's not personal.
Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
It's the good, it's Business's no big deal.
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
Everybody's negotiating and then or if if it's an agent
doing it, and then at the end of it, you
hug and tell everybody how glad you are to be there,
and everybody's happy. Right, you beat each other up for
a minute and have a bed. It's happy and true
negotiations when everybody, everybody should win. The organization feel like
they won, the players should feel like he won. You
don't need to beat somebody over the head with a sledgehammer.
That's not my job. And I have a hunch that
Boris does that sometimes, and I think players get tired
(01:01:38):
of it. Or it's not just Boris, but Shake Guild
is Alexander. Probably at point in time, maybe your thought
process and what you want more changes. Maybe you want
long term security, maybe you want more bonus up front
and instead of hassl on it.
Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Plus let's let's face facts.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
Six four percent of seven hundred and fifty million dollars
a lot of money. So some want to do that.
And we saw was Richard Sherman was doing his contract
or No, it was uh, it was a corner for
the Jets, but a long time Revs did his by
himself for years, and there's I think you'll see a
trend to it. But when it's big, you get to
a point early on you don't trust yourself to read
(01:02:15):
the fine print. You think you're gonna get taken advantage of.
And so as you go on. In my agent's been
he's ad one of my better friends. He's a great
guy and I love him. Sometimes something comes across and
it came to you first, so you just do it
and get it done. It's happened in my marketing, it's
happened in influencing, has happened in a new deal and
got it done And I couldn't be more proud of
it because I know what to look for now, and
(01:02:36):
I think that's part of it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
And I would imagine Shay gildas Alexander.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
And and uh and casting host the same way. You
get to a point where you're like, you know what, listen,
I've studied this. I've been I've got a master's degree
in it and sport management. I've got a you know,
went out and got my my uh mediator's degree, got
degree certificate some sort of. So you're just sitting in
(01:03:01):
negotiations all the time, and I've watched my agent and
you come out of it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
I could have said the same thing.
Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
And it's not that you don't want them, but I
think a lot of times we get comfortable because they're
our friend. After a while, you developed relacious, just keep
doing it, and I think after a while I can
do this.
Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
It's not personal.
Speaker 1 (01:03:14):
And what Castianos had to say Castianos had to say,
and what Shay Gillig is alexanderstand I think a lot
of players go through that. I don't think a lot
of them have the nerve to want to get rid
of their agent and don't trust themselves because they just
want to get the money and move on. But if
you pay too close enough attention, at some point your
career should be able to negotiate your own I absolutely
believe that, Larry, there are certain ones you need in
certain situations, and I respect agencies and the marketing agents
(01:03:37):
that they see deals or they go get deals that
you couldn't get.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
I love that.
Speaker 6 (01:03:42):
Laryon Tunsen left tackle for the Texans, Larry Tussell, he
negotiated his own contract, Lamar Jackson negotiated his own contract,
Richard Sherman negotiated his own contract. And DeAndre Hopkins when
he was with the Cardinals, negotiated his own contract. Those
guys didn't have agents.
Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Right, and some people will have a family member. You
just got to make sure there's trust and they're speaking
for you. Like I said, it's still regardless who's negotiating,
it's still my I'm the one who makes the agent
works for me and for you. He doesn't work. We
don't work for him, and some guys don't get that.
But the problem, and I think in what you know
Nick said is going into negotiation, he gets to hear
(01:04:20):
it from the horse's mouth, not a third where it's like,
you know, everything gets lost in translation. Because if you're
an agent and somebody says something piss poor about your client,
do you really want to go out if you have
a sensitive client, go out and tell.
Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
Them, Hey, you're going to hide that, right? You just don't.
Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
He doesn't need to be talked about. So the agent
also gets to be the bad guy or the good guy,
good guy to you and the times bad guy to
the organization because they're battling and fighting over it. And
then there everybody's good, so your agent and then all
the good stuff you don't want to hear. If they're
telling you all the good stuff, then guess what, why
are they paying me more? That's just the way it works.
So if your thick skin and can handle the organization
telling you why you don't deserve more, then go do
(01:04:53):
it yourself. Not that big a deal. I'm at the
point I can. I try to like my agent and
love him, and thinks he's done great job. But I
understand why they'd move on because I've done plenty of
deals by myself. Did are brought to me, and I
trust that I can do it, and I know how
to read the fine print. Now if I need to,
I can hire two hundred dollars an hour lawyer to
read the fine print. And my guy does so I
(01:05:15):
still have mine. I love him, he's done a great job.
He negotiated this here so but the other one I
did it, and you know what, I can do it
and you can too. It's just all are you paying
attention through it?
Speaker 8 (01:05:24):
All?
Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
I guess is what I'm trying to say. And if
you're paying attention, you can negotiate your own deal and
talking about deals. When it comes to these Houston Astros,
are they done improving the club before the regular season starts?
Speaker 6 (01:05:35):
Dana Brown spoke about it yesterday. Let's let's hear it
and discuss next Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
Sort of propainters certopro dot com sorta with a C.
The official painting partner of your Houston Astros. Sertopro dot
com for your free estimate, And each and every curt
of Pro store is individually owned and operated, and you should.
All I say is give them a go. Di I wires,
I get it, but I like DIY, but I also
(01:06:01):
like to know that there's like they give me a
chance to free up some stuff to DIY other things
that I want to do. And when Dale and his
team came to my home and did in tier in
XT year, and it was a new home. People don't
usually paint a new home, but I wanted some different
colors and I wanted to look better and they did,
and they did it professionally. Local timely helped us pick
out a couple of paints in reserves.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Is it gonna pop? Is it? Matt? What is it? Well?
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Their expertise is beyond belief and great customer service and
it saved me time and quite frankly, they did it
to perfection. Have them give them a shot, let them
check you out and see if if it's a match,
and I think it will be. I've had some friends
that have used and walked in said who did that? Sean,
did you do this? I said, no, not good enough
to do that. I leave it to sert of Pro.
Was the customer before I was a team member, and
(01:06:47):
I wouldn't have it any other way because I can
speak on it to tell you they did mine to perfection.
It's expensive down a home in a business, so guess
what if it is, what should you do?
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
Protect it?
Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
With the quality painting assert of pro Painters. It's sort
of pro dot com sort of with the c sort
of pro Painters. That's painting Happy.
Speaker 5 (01:07:04):
And we're there for the Sean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
You gotta be careful for there's some really great agents
out there, and then there are some sleazy ones. We
know that exists in every business. But think about this.
If you're a young player and you get drafted or
you're an undrafted you're a rookie. And let's say you're
an undrafted rookie and the minimum you can make now
is what five point fifty or six hundred grand whatever
the minimum salary. Yeah, so let's just say you get
(01:07:31):
an agent. He adds gets you you're an undrafted free agent,
gets you a fifty thousand dollars bonus signing bonus, and
then adds one hundred and fifty thousand dollars base to
your rookie contract even though above the minimum. Right, should
you be paying him a fee for the entire contract
(01:07:53):
or just above the minimum above the minimum?
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
But there will be some that think you should be
paying them for the entire tract. Why would I give
you something? Why would I pay you just for something
something that's the floor I can't make any less. You
didn't negotiate that, You get caught up, and then it
becomes perpetually just rolls over. You're like, So it really
comes down in truth, when you need a bulldog to
find you a job. An agent's great because most people
don't want to go out and call up eighteen GMS
(01:08:18):
or whatever, look for the job. When you have established
and it's just a rollout, Oh we'd like to do
another contract.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
We want you.
Speaker 1 (01:08:27):
Everything's rolling well, you can probably do that yourself. It's
when somebody needs to bulldog and find you a gig
and as a free agent in the off season that
you're kind of a tweener, right man, I need to
go find me a gig. Or even if you're a
guy that's a free agent with big money and you
got to deal with that kind of where you're talking
half a billion dollars now we're talking about rare fight air, right,
So you need somebody the fine print and not getting
(01:08:49):
ripped off. And when they all these things that they do,
but don't ever pay an agent based on the off
the minimum. You pay them based And if the next
year comes around and they didn't get it, let's say
the next contract comes ract and it's the same should
they get paid on the same contract that was already
(01:09:10):
negotiating paid for If it's no pay raise, No, No,
there's ages out there that do that. They're gonna say
they went in there and talk to it got you.
If they give you five thout Okay, let's say you
get your five thousand more on the next contract. I'm
just sure anybody what it is. But since it's a
new contract, they'll negotiate on what you've already made. And
(01:09:34):
that's the floor again, not the ten thousand dollars increase.
The truth is, if you're doing myself, the ten thousand
dollars increase should be. It's just it's crazy. It's the limit.
That's the minimum I can make.
Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
That's what I had last time around.
Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
Yeah, so why am I paying you to get me
the same amount of money?
Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
That's what That's what some of these Now I see
why people got to be doing. That's exactly right. Yeah
hard Now you get it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
And then you know from the horse's mouth, if your
thick skin and can handle some criticizing you in negotiations. Yeah,
there's not a third party saying well, yeah, here's what
they said here. Now, No, I'm just gonna go talk
to GM myself. Right, if you're an athlete, Yeah, so
it's a slippery slope, but shake Gilses. Alexander's gonna make
a lot of money. You's not gonna have to pay
one penny to an agent. You know, he knows, he
knows the parameters of what the floor is, and he
(01:10:19):
knows he's worth the ceiling.
Speaker 6 (01:10:20):
That's exactly right, you know when it comes to like
sayings that we always, uh quite frankly say from the.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
Horse's mouth, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
Yeah, horses don't talk straight from the horse's mouth.
Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
Horses don't talk.
Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
I know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:10:32):
They Nay, they right talk, They don't they communicate with
each other.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
That's talking.
Speaker 6 (01:10:37):
Yeah, but that's that's in horse talk. Horse talk, yeah,
big old horse, you know. And it's like horse play.
Well the horse run around. Yeah, horse plays just aren't
running around bucking and you got to break. Well, some are, Yeah,
you got to you gotta break the don't take it
so literal. Well, I'm just saying, you know, but right
for the horse's mouth.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
It's a good idea.
Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
I mean, like you're saying, what horses don't talk to
where the phrase where originate? Horse's mouth?
Speaker 6 (01:11:01):
Let's check it out right from the horse's mouth, right
from the horse's mouth. To derive that. What what are
they gonna have derive? Where did it drive from?
Speaker 8 (01:11:13):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Where did it? What are you talking about? Where did
it originate?
Speaker 1 (01:11:17):
Yes, let's check it out. Check it out, hmmmm mmmm.
Speaker 6 (01:11:27):
This expression first became popular around the nineteen twenties. It
comes from the practicing of examining a horse's teeth to
determine its age.
Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Oh, straight from the horse's mouth. Hey, you just go
to the source, right, straight to the horse's mouth. Yeah,
so if you want, you know, So, when you're negotiate
a contract, do you want to hear it straight from
the horse's mouth. Yeah, there's no middleman, those big ass
teeth those horses have, right, exactly, you feel me? Nineteen
twenty dog, do some history work.
Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
Yeah, hearing something straight from the horse's mouth means hearing
it from the source.
Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
Right, sources close to me, but the source right. So
you're down on the horse's mouth thing. No, I'm not
down on it. I'm just you know, they don't talk.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
Some could.
Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
Some would argue, okay, some would argue.
Speaker 6 (01:12:16):
So this is a boast of confidence from a race
track tipster who says he gets his information from the
horses themselves, thereby assuring the better that the info is correct.
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
So the horse has talked to him, not the jockey,
the horse, the horse. There you go, there's your inside
information from the horse's mouth. Okay, wow, And why is
why do you have to be a horse's ass?
Speaker 7 (01:12:39):
Why?
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
Why can't you be you know, an ass's ass?
Speaker 7 (01:12:43):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Or just why is that?
Speaker 8 (01:12:45):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
Gosh what a horse's ass? Yeah, we're gonna say not
a donkey's ass. I mean, but you could animal?
Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
Why did they say a bison's ass? Is it just
easy to go to the horse call? The horse gets
dogged out all the way around? Right because I beat
a dead horse? Horses? Yeah, would they do the horse community?
And then you run him out on a track and
make money off him and sweat them. And then then
the greatest thing they get they get to go to
stud service. They get to bang everything. That's the best
(01:13:15):
thing about being one of those horses that wins championships.
You get to go out there, dominate the secretary and
go get paid and then just you're making love.
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
Hey, what are you doing to it?
Speaker 7 (01:13:22):
Banging?
Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
That's how they communicate with each other if you're a horse.
Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
But it's true from the horse's mouth, you're a horse's asked,
and you beat a dead horse who's ed? They're a
horse and a guy on a phone named Ed. Yeah,
that's uh. That old show. It's uh the uh with
the big with the big teeth. Yeah, yeah, did you
have anything about it? Who's asking you to look that up?
Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
Our guy, Maddy Williams.
Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
Yeah, oh idiots. Did he put it on Twitter that
bamboo harvester?
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
Oh? Mister Ed Yes, he was the show. Yeah yeah,
there was six seasons on them.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
It ran between nineteen sixty one and nineteen sixty six.
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
Yeah, yeah, No he didn't put on Oh said.
Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
You ever heard of Ed? Sean knows Ed I do
in the picture of mister Edde.
Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
The crazy thing about it is one time we were
doing uh name we did at ESPN on ESPN News.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
We did a about once a week.
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
I'd go on and we do name that face, and
they put up faces and we go like athletes, politicians,
and I'd be rolling, dude, what time it is, my guy?
But they put up mister Ed. They put the horse
up like that, and I said, John Elway, dude, my
host fell out of his frigging chair. And John's my guy.
Speaker 8 (01:14:36):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
It was just all in funn all like put it
up there.
Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
It was mister ed just I mean, it wasn't hesitating
put it up there. L Way. He fell out the whole.
I could hear the producer director laughing in my ear.
Oh my gosh, man, it was hilarious. But yeah, our
guy Maddie Mister ed, that's a lesson alurned. The horse
does get oki dope and then if you're I know
(01:15:03):
he does, he really does.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
It's unbelievable. It's racis against the horse community, man, whatever
it is.
Speaker 1 (01:15:08):
I think that people are intolerant horses and I don't
like it. I don't either, man. Unbelievable, you're down on
the horse community.
Speaker 2 (01:15:15):
No, I love the horse.
Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Grew up with them, man, Come on, no, son, I
did grew up with him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
That's straight from the horse's mouth. True.
Speaker 1 (01:15:23):
Yeah, but I never beat it. I never beat him,
and I was a horse's ass.
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
Bloody yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:15:30):
Seven seven ninety's number to join the show to get
to break right here on Sports Talk seven eighty.
Speaker 5 (01:15:38):
The Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
I got details on it, and you definitely don't want
it the same area. Hell no, no, god no. So
if that's the case, I to me, just upgrade the
surrounding area. When it comes to restaurants, bars, we've talked
about it. Make it a destination stop, not only for games,
but on times when there's no games there, I don't
(01:16:05):
think you have to. The stadium doesn't look like it
needs a new stadium. He needs a new face left
round it. Yeah, I agree, I agree.
Speaker 6 (01:16:12):
So I got details on that that's coming up in
the eight o'clock hour, right at eight o'clock, so we'll
discuss if the Texans may be seeking a new home
in a new stadium. Excuse me, seven one, three, two
two five seven ninety is the number to join talking
about these Houston Astros. They got another day of full
squad workouts if you missed it early this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
They are bringing in Brendan Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (01:16:37):
Former goal Glover played with the Colorado Rockies, hit about
two sixty seven last year. Uh played well for the Rockies.
He's coming in on a minor league deal. So that's
going to add some more infield depth for the Houston Astros.
And looks like Al Tuve is going to play some
left field for the Stros. You know, one thing that
(01:16:58):
we've talked about, Sean, is these young man, these these
young dudes like Cam Smith, Zach Dezenzo, Shay Whitcomb, Jacob Melton.
Do you think those guys will have an opportunity at
some point during the regular season.
Speaker 1 (01:17:13):
If there was ever a time to give them an opportunity,
why not now? Yeah, I mean, well, if they come
out of spring training impressive, I would expect them to.
You gotta listen, it's hard enough. It's been hard enough
for young players to get through and make this major
league roster over this run, over the last eight or
nine years. Why because they're so friggin good and there's
(01:17:36):
just no spots for them. Yeah, and now you have
an opportunity where there's spot's galore to contribute, be a
you know, be a guy come off the bench or
and or be a regular everyday player. If not, now win.
So it's a perfect opportunity for them to give these
guys legitimate All you got to do, give them a
(01:17:57):
legitimate shot to compete. You might find that. You find
it twenty two year old. It's got all the moxie
you need and the game you need. So I when
I hear open competition, I would really like to see it.
And I tell you to me, I don't think anybody's
earned the outfield starting jobs yet.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
No, every day.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
I mean McCormick two years ago, but that was two
years ago Meyers defensively, I get it, but there's a
lot of things that need to be I mean, even
Dana Brown and you heard him say, well, if Chas
McCormick gonna get back to two years ago, Chas McCormick,
So why wouldn't you let these young players Because you're
gonna find out one of two things. Either the veterans
can handle the push and accept the challenge and excel,
(01:18:38):
or the young guys are going to bypass them and
leave them behind. And guess what, oh well, yeah, oh well,
I don't put an age on talent production. Brother, I
don't care if you're forty, and I don't care if
you're twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
Let them compete.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
And if they've come out of this and you've got
to start two rookie outfielders, guess what, so be it. Yeah, well, yeah, exactly, So,
I just but you don't give it to him. You
let them beat him out, and then once they if
they beat him out. If they don't, then you saw
those guys elevate their game, the veterans, and you let
them once you beat them out, if they've earned it,
you let them stay in there and fight through the
(01:19:13):
difficult times.
Speaker 2 (01:19:14):
So they understand what the good ones feel like. Yeah,
so I'm all for.
Speaker 1 (01:19:18):
I can't remember a time that the competition should be
so fierce than now. Yeah, honestly, especially in those three
outfield spots.
Speaker 6 (01:19:26):
Dana Brown mentioned that these young guys. Here is what
he had to say about these prospects.
Speaker 15 (01:19:31):
Yeah, I'm locked in on them, you know, regardless if
the major leaguers are doing well and if they're not
doing well, I'm still locked in on those guys. Those
guys have a chance to help us. I really feel
confident that they could turn the corner pretty quickly. And
so I'm used to, you know, moving players fast, you know.
I mean I told these guys when I got the job,
(01:19:52):
I sat down and I talked to a lot of
the minor league players. I think it's important that you
always have good young players coming into major leagues. I
think it reminds the older players that, hey, we got
good young players in the minor leagues, and it reminds
the younger players that if I do well, I'm gonna
get moved up. And I think you want that energy
throughout your entire organization. And I'm telling a firm believer,
(01:20:14):
So I think if these guys are. If they go
down there and they're doing well, we will talk about
moving them. You know, I don't know how fast or
I can't put a timeline on it, sure, but we're
not afraid to move them to the big leagues if
they're doing very well.
Speaker 6 (01:20:27):
And there's Astro's general manager Dana Brown talking about those
prospects and the potential of them being moved up. He
was with Matt Thomas and Ross on the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross yesterday from West Palm Beach. Let's get
into the eight o'clock hour, man, this topic is going
to be interesting. Could the Houston Texans look to build
a new stadium?
Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
That's next kd.
Speaker 5 (01:20:49):
E Houston at d HD two Houston, an I hard
radio station.
Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
How's our Rocket.
Speaker 10 (01:20:59):
Sports talks your home for your home team. Sauls Pray
Oy Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
Sewn Salisbury there.
Speaker 19 (01:21:16):
To usc truths.
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:21:18):
Ryan Lima, go Lobos.
Speaker 5 (01:21:21):
This is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 6 (01:21:26):
Rockets are off tonight, then we'll get back an action
until Friday. You have h beets Arizona State in Big
Twelve Conference play. Texans have a decision to make in
regards to their stadium. That's what we're going to talk
about this segment. But before we get to that, let's
get back out to the phone lines at seven one, three, two, two, five,
seven ninety Jim, good morning, Hey guys, heow we'all. What's up, buddy?
(01:21:48):
We're good man, Not much.
Speaker 14 (01:21:50):
Hey.
Speaker 20 (01:21:50):
I want to kind of just continue that conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
About the outfield.
Speaker 20 (01:21:54):
But first, uh, perhaps I can get the memo. But
now that Bragman is no longer at the Strows, why
do we even need to worry about al Tube going.
Speaker 7 (01:22:05):
To left field.
Speaker 20 (01:22:05):
This is a Hall of Fame second baseman and we
don't need him to go to left field. We don't
have Ryan Samberg coming in to fill him in at
second base.
Speaker 7 (01:22:13):
I don't get that.
Speaker 20 (01:22:15):
And secondly, I don't want to go and have a
roster or an opening day lineup that has both McCormick
and Jake Myers on the outfield at the same time.
I can't stomach that. And I would just throw de
Simzo and left, Melton and right, and let Myers and
McCormick fight out for centerfield until the two on the
(01:22:35):
corner can't prove that they can make it. I mean,
I don't see how they would be any worse than
what we've seen with McCormick and and Myers on the field.
Speaker 7 (01:22:45):
I just can't stomach that.
Speaker 14 (01:22:46):
And so that was my comments.
Speaker 12 (01:22:48):
I just I just don't understand what's the driver. And
you know, I said, what's the driver now for.
Speaker 7 (01:22:52):
Him going to left field?
Speaker 12 (01:22:53):
Why?
Speaker 7 (01:22:53):
Why? Why is out till we need to go to
left field?
Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
Appreciate you, Jim, Yeah, I mean we've talked about it.
Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
Well, we thought that when we talked about it Brian
and with Joe A. Spada, that it was all contingent
on Alex Pregman being here or not. And he said, well,
all that will depend on Alex Pregmant being here, meaning
al Tuove moved to left and now that he's not,
we were under the same impression. Jim was right under
the same impression.
Speaker 6 (01:23:17):
So it's actually Dana Brown spoke about why al two
Vas could potentially play left field, and it's it's a
quick one. So here's here's Dana Brown talking about al
Twove and left. We'll get it here just a second
little I could see Triple working on it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:36):
Well, can you imagine though, Now the versatility if you
can take one of those corns, like like a Melton,
a Dozenzo more than like or a Smith, uh huh,
and that they can play center field. Yeah, okay, yeah,
And I want you, I want to just think of
some fun to think about your outfield in three years,
(01:23:56):
the Zenzo, Melton.
Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
Cam Smith.
Speaker 1 (01:23:59):
Yeah, if they produce, I mean, if you because we
know that you can find the corner outfielder in two
of them. Yeah, and if you get it, you can
find a pure center fielder out of it. Yeah. Well
I'm a gym dude. I I can't stomach.
Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
Can you stomach what I just told you?
Speaker 1 (01:24:13):
Absolutely? I could live with it and live with it
and roll with it, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
Yeah, I'm in. I mean, how does that outfield sound
to you?
Speaker 4 (01:24:20):
Right that?
Speaker 1 (01:24:20):
Well, look the way that hose is gonna look from
the optics optics.
Speaker 2 (01:24:23):
Well, you got two dudes that are six five and right.
Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
And left book and the and all can Rake and all.
I mean, it'd be pretty impressive, wouldn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:24:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:24:33):
I I cannot stomach another two ten performance from Jake Myers.
Speaker 1 (01:24:37):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (01:24:38):
I trust Chas McCormick got to play much more. I
know he had a down season and he was hurt too.
He's done it before. Jake Myers has not. I can't
do it.
Speaker 2 (01:24:45):
Here's here's Dana Brown explaining Cosey al Tuve to left.
Speaker 15 (01:24:49):
I think al Touve is having a ball out there
and left field. First of all, he's excited about it.
Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
He's out there like a little kid.
Speaker 7 (01:24:55):
It's unbelievable. He's always smiling.
Speaker 15 (01:24:58):
And you know, we wanted to create him versatility and
if you could use him, you know, in left field,
you know that's going to create some versatility and we
think that could be big. And you know, we needed
a bat in our outfield, so that helps us with
a bat in our outfield. But uh, you know, he's
he's done a great job. He's really taking well to it.
And as long as he's having fun, you know what.
(01:25:21):
You know, we we don't have to commit to it today.
But as long as he's having fun and getting better,
and we feel like, look, he's got a chance to
be a really good defender, why not. You know, he's
he's doing a good job. I just went out earlier
and watched him take some fly balls, and man, he
was getting good jumps and they were, you know, getting
the balls in the gap.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
There he goes straight from the horse's mouth.
Speaker 1 (01:25:44):
But by talking about Bregman not being here, are we
beating a dead horse?
Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
And we don't. We want to make sure that nobody
plays like a horse's ass.
Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
Greats versatility, We've we've wed three horses.
Speaker 2 (01:26:01):
The horse gets the short end of the stick. They
sure do. Man, until it comes to the stud service
part of it.
Speaker 1 (01:26:06):
Yeah, right, exactly, be a nice kick.
Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
Yeah, I'm exactly.
Speaker 6 (01:26:11):
Yeah, that's uh as Dana Brown. I guess you know
in their mind it's going to create some versatility. So
we'll see. Man, I hope the you know, he may
be it does create versatility. You wonder how how big
the impact of the versatility is. I guess now with
them going to getting Brendan Rodgers and if he continues
to hit to sixty two, seventy, maybe even to eighty
and he's played, he's won a gold Glove at second
(01:26:32):
base and Dubon can't swing it as well. Dubon goes
back to your Swiss army knife. Then you got Brendan
Rodgers at second, you got al tuo Vey and left
because Altuve will swing it better than Dubon Jake Myers.
I think I don't know, so I guess one way
to look at it.
Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
And a great point. And the guy think about what
you're saying, and he's won a Gold Glove and played
some pretty good second base and hit in Rogers, then
think about what you're saying. We're good by ready start
the season. Right now, we're saying with a Hall of
Fame second baseman, Yeah, we are saying that a guy
who's just signed to a minor league contract. Yeah, he's
gonna be the guy who's gonna cary the load of
second basis years. That's where this team is right now.
Speaker 7 (01:27:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
But when you talk about he's he's a major league player.
He's not a minor league player. But we'll see.
Speaker 6 (01:27:14):
I think we also have to remember that jose Al Tuvey,
over the last couple of seasons, his Metris fall is
really not that good of a second basement. The Metros
have gone down, no doubt. I'm not saying that he's
gonna head a dramatic fall.
Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
He can get by and do it, but he's not.
He's not winning a Gold Glow.
Speaker 6 (01:27:28):
The reason he's a Hall of Famer isn't because of
his defense or his base running or his running.
Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
Isn't it crazy?
Speaker 6 (01:27:35):
When it's all said and done, this dude's gonna be
a Hall of Famer, most likely going to have over
three thousand hits. He's going to have a statue build
for him. His number is going to get retired. He's
gonna he's the greatest of all time, the love beyond belief.
And he's one of the worst base runners of all time.
Speaker 1 (01:27:49):
And you usually say, well, a Leonod Fitt is going
to have some kind of clue, and he has no clue.
I don't know what it is, but there there seems
to be a lapse in judgment when he's on the
basis at ten times the season, you're like, what in
the times? At times our guy Hosey, Yeah, runs the bases.
If it's the first time he played baseball, it's like,
I know you, you're such a smart, cagy great player
(01:28:12):
with high baseball all the time, or one of one,
and he just can't run the base doing very good
o Val two Bay.
Speaker 6 (01:28:17):
Is he gonna he's gonna try to tag the fly
balls only the thecond base. I don't know he was
doing Blumber he's hosed by four.
Speaker 1 (01:28:28):
He started sliding. He started sliding at eighty seven feet.
Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Blumber.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
We played, dude, it was he's there was one word,
whatever I want. It's like, oh, here we go. I
think it was last season he got back picked at third.
Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
When he overran a base.
Speaker 1 (01:28:47):
Yes, and I'm like, what what was the ball in
front of him? Yes? Yeah, that's it was like, I mean,
you run the balls. It's like, dude, don't don't do that.
Speaker 6 (01:28:57):
And Als picked off at third again. I don't really
know he was doing, Blumber. The ball was right there
in front of Dindy. Homer's on a ball above his head.
It's like phenomenal, man. I love it, freaking love it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:08):
The number twenty seven train has left Union Station.
Speaker 1 (01:29:11):
Astro lead two to one, even even after Jose's four
base running blunders.
Speaker 6 (01:29:18):
It's crazy, Blummer. Jose al Tu has set another record
for the Astros. This time he's been picked off four
times in a game. That hasn't been done since nineteen
seventy three Jimmy Winn.
Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
But he homered three times and two of them were
Grand Slams, so he made up for it. So we
went again, and he's going to the Hall of Fame. Yeah,
he giveth, he take away and he giveth. Yes, he's phenomenal.
Speaker 6 (01:29:42):
But I love him, I know, I love He's gonna
play left field though, Like that's all joking.
Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
Yeah, we talked, Oh he's having fun. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:29:49):
If he's having fun and he's productive, his ass is
lining up in left field left field. Yeah, they keep
making that outfield bat talk the outfield bat infield out
it's still a bat, right. Basically, what you're saying is
you can You're you're worried if any of the three
guys you're putting out there could hit. So we got
to put out TV out there to actually know.
Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
He could hit. It's kind of a wild there's no
if with his bat.
Speaker 6 (01:30:09):
Oh, it's kind of a wild thing to think of, Like, oh,
if it puts a bat in the outfield, Okay, well
you're now taking Dubona and put him a second, that
bat's still not as good.
Speaker 2 (01:30:17):
So he's still in the lineup.
Speaker 1 (01:30:18):
Like even if Debon was playing left field, Jose was
playing second on both baths.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
Still in the step, That's what I'm saying. But hey,
who's counting.
Speaker 6 (01:30:25):
So that's why good day, good good for Brenda. Rogers
for getting another opportunity. Now, hopefully he makes the most
of it, and he hits two seventy and plays a
gold glove second base.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
So I'll take that all day, all day.
Speaker 1 (01:30:35):
If they knew they're gonna get gold gloves, gold glove
second base with two seventy too, they'll play one hundred
and forty five games out there and left field right yeah,
oh yeah, yeah, So I'm okay with it. Yeah. And
apparently he is too, according to the way Dana says,
he's having a glass like a little kid.
Speaker 8 (01:30:49):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:30:49):
I don't blame him. Sometimes those things rejuvenate. It's a
new fast spring training is not. Oh here we go
down to beat down. Yeah yeah, good for him, man, Yeah,
I love it. Well, uh, we'll see, man, we'll see.
I just think he gonna be in left field. All right.
Speaker 6 (01:31:01):
Let's let's talk about those Texans again. The Houston Chronicle
release in an article this morning, could they be in
the works for a brand new football stadium?
Speaker 1 (01:31:10):
We'll talk about it next.
Speaker 5 (01:31:13):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 1 (01:31:16):
No, Now, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:31:20):
Pretty nice out there?
Speaker 1 (01:31:21):
That's that song is everybody knows that song, whether you
should didn't know it though, Disco, Dirks Bentley d B
in the house. Is that okay? All?
Speaker 2 (01:31:34):
There we go.
Speaker 6 (01:31:38):
Andy's called us like five times? Dude, did Andy mistake
mistakenly call our show?
Speaker 2 (01:31:43):
Triple Andy?
Speaker 9 (01:31:46):
What are you doing? Son?
Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
Andy's trying to figure out a new nickname for somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
Is that that Andy you're talking about?
Speaker 1 (01:31:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
Yeah, let's doctor Bruce?
Speaker 1 (01:31:55):
Real quick?
Speaker 2 (01:31:55):
What's that Bruce?
Speaker 7 (01:31:57):
Hey?
Speaker 8 (01:31:58):
Good morning, Sewn Brian and Triple how are you y'all?
Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Good buddy? How are you hey?
Speaker 8 (01:32:02):
Just real quick before y'all move on on the too
they deal. I didn't know something. One thing that has
spoted maybe Dana Brown should consider is, you know, when
they move him out there with this smaller statue, you're
you're they're potentially gonna sideline and uh, a potential Hall
of Famer with an injury out in the outfield. So
(01:32:22):
I don't know if y'all considered that or even brought
that up, but that, I mean, you can get injured
at any time out there in any position. I get that,
But you're moving him out there in the outfield and
he goes out, lays out for something, or does something,
You're going to put the guy down and and I
just think it's about idea. So I just wanted to
get Yall's comment.
Speaker 1 (01:32:41):
I think I think people are at this stage is
going to quit, you know, a little soft tissue hammy
to the top, right, and there's more ground to cover. Yeah,
he's gonna have to cover a lot more ground. And
you know obviously in out and left and right and
into it all and that that quick burst out there.
I hope, I hope we're all wrong and he's one
hundred percent healthy, right, But the risk is out there.
(01:33:02):
Hence why they don't want to put you on out
there in the first place, right, But al tuove and
maybe they think he can become a really versatile, good outfielder.
But you run the risk because you know of a
lot more.
Speaker 2 (01:33:15):
Ground to cover. Yeah, and it's just gap shots. Oh,
there's no doubt.
Speaker 8 (01:33:18):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
Then you got to communicate with your center fielder and
you're I.
Speaker 1 (01:33:22):
Mean it's inevitable if you play that position. You are
diving into the gap at some point, at some point,
you're jumping into the wall, You're doing all those things.
But I would imagine if you talked to Jose Altuve
about it, it was probably he'd probably say I'm not
worried about the injury. Right, That's how most players approach it.
They say, I'll be fine, but listen, the risk goes up,
(01:33:44):
the insurance policy costs more.
Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
Right, Yeah, it just does.
Speaker 7 (01:33:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:33:48):
So it's going to be though, man, all right with
these Houston Texans. The Houston Chronicle Jonathan m Alexander, he
is covering the Houston Texans for the Houston Chronicle. He's
been on Sports Talk seven ninety plenty of times. And
then also with him on this article is Dylan McGinnis.
He's an investigator reporter for the Houston Chronicles, so he
(01:34:10):
helped out Jonathan and Alexander. Basically, it looks like the
Texans have a decision to make make significant renovations to
NRG or seek public money to build a new stadium.
Entirely one of them will have to happen. There's some
details we know.
Speaker 1 (01:34:32):
The answer that most are gonna want to give you
fix up the facility. Yeah, and then instead of take
their tax dollars, so go ahead and finish.
Speaker 7 (01:34:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:34:42):
Just it's so again. One of the things about the
new president that came in is Mike Toeman. He has
extensive history and stadium development again with Dallas Cowboys owner
Jerry Jones. He's been in, been in, He's worked on
arrangements with stadiums in La Vegas and most recently Buffalo,
(01:35:03):
which they're building their new stadium that's going to open
up in two years in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
Maybe that's part of the reason why they That was
part of the resume that they want, yes when they
hire him.
Speaker 6 (01:35:12):
So the Texans have started re negotiating a new lease
agreement at NRG Stadium. It's been a publicly financed home
since twenty twenty two. So a recent facility assessment found
the stadium was an average or below average condition compared
to its peers, with a laundry list of needs from
deferred maintenance over the years. So the chances are there
(01:35:33):
could be a new stadium or they're going to do
some reservations renovations.
Speaker 1 (01:35:38):
Yeah, you want to build a new stadium, there'll be
reservations about building a new stadium from people build a
new stadium, just don't do it there if you're going
to do it. Secondly, yeah, you got to constantly keep them. Now,
when I said, oh, we don't need a new stadium,
that doesn't mean you're not going to give it a facelift, right,
give it a facelift around it, inside it, below it,
whatever it is. You need to do, locker rooms whatever
(01:35:59):
to get it right. But you're probably gonna get a
lot of pushback from people not wanting to build a
new stadium just yet. It's not like the stadiums fifty
years old. It's amazing how quickly We's crazy we build
new stadiums, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
Yeah? Really in baseball, get.
Speaker 1 (01:36:13):
Twenty five years out of towards you beat your beat
you yeah, Haggard, It's wild, it is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
It's unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (01:36:19):
Two sources familiar with the Texans thinking told the Chronicle
the Texans have explored the possibility of a new stadium,
though the team has not committed to that path. The
team has not proposed a new stadium in the least negotiations,
and the ultimate decision is going to depend on what
makes the most financial sense for the Texans. The rodeo
in Harris County, which owns the campus and leases it
to the two organizations.
Speaker 1 (01:36:40):
That's right. That's another thing you got to take into consideration.
That rodeo every year that produces so much money and
is such a popular rodeo around the country, let alone
here in Houston. People come from far and wide to
that thing.
Speaker 6 (01:36:52):
So then here comes the money aspect. The decision could
likely hinge on the price tag of a renovation. If
the combined costs of maintenance one point four billion is
needed over thirty years at the stadium according to a
recent assessment, and premium features the Texas may want to
add begin to approach the cost of a rebuild. The
team could decide a new stadium is the better option.
Speaker 1 (01:37:16):
And then put it right there, I guess so, or
move the rodeo to the new stadium.
Speaker 8 (01:37:22):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:37:23):
I don't know what they do. I don't know if
they tear down and just build. I want it there. No,
I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:37:28):
Unless you add, unless you make a ballpark, ballpark, entertainment rights,
entertainment center.
Speaker 1 (01:37:35):
That's that's would be. That would be a huge party.
Go there when there's no games, when the games, it's
obvious you want to go there. Steakhouse, Mexican food, you know,
burger joint, pizza, whatever it is. But entertainment bar, nightclub,
whatever it is you're building, but make it one of
those that people want to go there when there's no game,
then you know it's a that it's a place that
(01:37:58):
will sustain the last.
Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Yeah, so you know.
Speaker 6 (01:38:01):
But if let's say they did build a new stadium,
where are you gonna do it? We're you gonna put
a full sure, I mean there's room out there. There's
rigid room out in like the Bridgeland area.
Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
That right between Highway ten on ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (01:38:15):
Yes, between Bridgeland and Springing Out, there's a.
Speaker 6 (01:38:19):
Ton ton out there. They've already cleared out because they
want tout in neighborhood. I'm sure you could fix those
plans and put a stadium out there.
Speaker 1 (01:38:23):
Perfect Bridgeland because it's pretty good access on toll roads.
Speaker 6 (01:38:26):
To get there too, right, And then you could, Uh,
I don't know, ain't You're not gonna do it on
the east side, No, no disrespect. You ain't doing it
towards Hell. No, you're doing it towards State Town. You
ain't doing it towards Pasadena. You ain't going south towards Galveston.
So it seems to me it would be west or
you just tear down what you got now, or head
(01:38:46):
my way, or go out west or the northwest, because
you ain't going out towards me in the woodlands and Willis.
There's there's room, but you ain't going that far north
of the city. But talking Willis, but you could also
make a fact that's closer to the airport.
Speaker 1 (01:38:57):
I don't know, man, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:39:01):
If you're gonna make renovations, add in some sort of
ballpark entertainment.
Speaker 2 (01:39:05):
Don't build it by the airport, please. Oh no, God, no,
there's no room.
Speaker 1 (01:39:08):
Don't do no, no, not a good area either, No no, no, no,
we're out talk yeah, don't do no, no, no no.
Speaker 6 (01:39:12):
You definitely doing it to buy hobby either. That's a
worse area where you're gonna put it. Can I guess
what I'm saying on I forty five right there, right there?
Speaker 1 (01:39:21):
I uh, by the way, not to get out to
be but by the way, Hey, make no mistake, Hey,
the fact that we're talking about money and taxing people
in public funding, taxing that ass, tax that ass, the
fight attack that tax that ass. Yeah, if you're actually
the public funding. Yeah, this proposal that may be going
in and it feels like it's got more than just legs.
(01:39:43):
Can you imagine if we have no federal taxes anymore. Yeah,
it'd be great.
Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
That talk is and it's the states. I mean, you
see where some of our tax dollars have gone.
Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
Uh yeah, I'm not even going to that list. That
will make it throw up in your mouth. But regardless
of that, I have thought about it. I mean, how
epic would it be if you got your paycheck and
you got your paycheck, your paycheck, yeah, hey, you actually
actually make what you're making. But the problem is the
people are going to continue on to move here because
no federal tax, no state tax, but then they're going
to take your property taxes and make you pay million
(01:40:21):
dollars up but they're no federal tax'd be great. Well,
so I got my W two? Is my W two?
Speaker 12 (01:40:27):
No? No?
Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
No, yeah, W two?
Speaker 6 (01:40:28):
I got my W two in the mail the other day,
and the amount of taxes that are taken out of
my check is just disgusting.
Speaker 2 (01:40:36):
Everybody has that. We're off.
Speaker 1 (01:40:39):
Yeah, that's don't study. It'll piss you off more. I
did last night and I did no federal taxes.
Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
How good health?
Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
But dude, think about how and you know what with
the way they're with with the way they spend the
money on frivolous stupidity.
Speaker 2 (01:40:53):
They shouldn't be taxing us.
Speaker 1 (01:40:54):
How's that. I'm all for it. I went from flat
tax to no tax. I'm all in.
Speaker 6 (01:40:57):
Yeah, let's go, that's free. Get your W two. It'll
piss you off, I promise.
Speaker 1 (01:41:01):
So do you know how many years I've been looking
at W two's and knowing euro CD?
Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
Yeah, been pissed off?
Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
Where did that dine go?
Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
Yeah? Sus that's me? Yeah, I know, brother.
Speaker 1 (01:41:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:41:12):
So we'll have to pay attention I got you. Yeah,
we'll have to pay attention to what this these Texans
are going to do with this stadium and basically what
the what the city of Houston is going to want
to do because a big part of it is not
just the Texans. Actually, I would say I bet the
Rodeo is a bigger part of the stadium a sentence.
That's a big reason why, because there's so much revenue. Well,
(01:41:33):
you rod, we could do. They'll go to a better facility.
By the way, make no mistake, tri believe we still
got those fire those bad boys up. Seven pet three

Speaker 5 (01:43:41):
The Sewn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 7 (01:43:45):
Thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 21 (01:43:48):
I just wanted to make a little counterpoint about all
two day I with the base running especially uh, I
think the problem is is the base running blunders he's
had that they stand out in people's minds. But if
you really, if you dive into the deeper metrics with
his running, he's actually, I.
Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
Mean, he's an above average runner.
Speaker 7 (01:44:09):
For his career.
Speaker 21 (01:44:11):
I mean, not as good as he was in his.
Speaker 12 (01:44:12):
Prime, of course, but it's just the problem is that
the one or two just really like, oh my god,
what was he thinking?
Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
Type type?
Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
It makes it feel worse than it is. Yeah, we
kind of do a tongue in cheek because he's not
as bad as you think, but he does make the
blayers just come at the wrong time.
Speaker 12 (01:44:31):
Yeah, I was looking at Baseball savon the website and
I was almost surprised to see how good of some
of the seasons he's had that he was actually a
very good base runner. You know, I never would consider
him a smart based runner, like the way you would say,
you know, Bagwell was, but he you know, he he's
had some pretty good, pretty good seasons. But also I
(01:44:53):
just wanted to say, and I'm surprised more people don't talk.
Speaker 7 (01:44:56):
About this with him.
Speaker 12 (01:44:58):
I think the move to left the I mean, I
might be crazy, but I think it's going to be
a good one for him. If we look back in
twenty twenty in the playoffs, he kind of he kind
of got the yips on his throats. If y'all remember
against Tampa Bay. You know, he's still hit great, but
(01:45:18):
he made some really bad throws that led to some runs.
And honestly, even though it doesn't get talked about, I
don't think he's really ever fully recovered from the gifts.
And I think he's, you know, because he's still he'll
make a lot of bad throws that are will short
hop and you know, you know, he used to to
you know, bail them out of line. And I think,
(01:45:40):
I don't subconsciously or not, I think he almost limits
himself from a range standpoint so that he doesn't make
the place he doesn't have to worry about making those throws.
And and that might be looking too deep into it,
I don't know, but I think getting him into left
field where he's not having to worry so much about
(01:46:03):
the little accurate throws, you know, where he can just
cut it loose with his arm, just throw the ball
into the field, I would I would be surprised if
we don't see him actually be a decent left field Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:46:14):
I think so too. Yeah, Well, you've got Todd Thanks
a great point, and a lot of times you get
a little too cute and start aiming it when your
second base it's a close throw, so you aim it
and get you know, like throwing darts, and sometimes you're
your weight.
Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
You're too fine with it.
Speaker 1 (01:46:30):
And when you get too cute with instead of letter
rip at second base because it's close, it's easy, then
the ball starts to flail away. My buddy Steve Sacks
went through that. He had the yips throw on the
ball to first base when he was with the Dodgers,
and it was tough. We've seen Chuck Knoblock I think
went through it as well. And then you you kick
on out and I think Josel two vail handle that
field just fine, and maybe cutting it loose in it
with his arm out there is a little he won't
(01:46:53):
be as cute as the short throw to the second base.
And as a base runner, we just kind of tongue
in cheek, we we we kid. He's not the greatest pace.
He's pretty good from first to second. It's some of
the decisions on the base paths that you know he'll
steal a base or two. Didn't make you a question,
but I it may be a career extender moving into
left field. It may very well be. And then, like
I said, he can just let it rip. Just like
(01:47:14):
he does at the plate, he may be able to
do in left field. So it's a good thing. Get
out to Gary before we go to break Gary in spring.
What's up man? How you doing?
Speaker 8 (01:47:23):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (01:47:23):
Gas? Can you hear me? Okay?
Speaker 5 (01:47:24):
Yep, okay, go at this in a different way.
Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
Nope, triple Let him know his connections a little.
Speaker 6 (01:47:32):
Bit to break and we'll come back and get the rest. Yeah, Ryan, Biskuy,
y'all got you, guys. Don't go anywhere. We'll get back
out to the phone line seven one, three, two two five,
seven ninety after the break, Next.
Speaker 10 (01:47:43):
The Seawn Salisbury Show with Sean Salisbury and Brian Lema.
Speaker 5 (01:47:52):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
Gary, you got us?
Speaker 7 (01:47:58):
Yeah? Can you hear me any better?
Speaker 3 (01:47:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:47:59):
Yeah, we got you?
Speaker 13 (01:48:00):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
What's on your mind? Yeah? On the O two A deal.
Speaker 7 (01:48:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:48:05):
At first, I was the same way as ninety percent
of the callers, And it's just a natural thing. Is
what are y'all doing to our our best guy? He's
a monument for this time. You know, you can't treat
him like that and everything. But since they've done that,
I started thinking about it different. You know, if everybody,
I think everybody's goal in life is to have the
(01:48:26):
soul and the and the feelings and the thoughts that
al Twove does. I think that he has such a
deep appreciation for every facet of life.
Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
His home, his wife, his job, everything, his children, everything.
Speaker 22 (01:48:41):
He he just loves to death and he's just always
happy and appreciative. And I think he remembers back when
he tried out for the Astros, he didn't make it,
and then they took him back the second year, and
he just has such a love of life. As I
was stating before, in every facet, he don't care where
they put him.
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
He's making.
Speaker 22 (01:48:59):
He's doing what he loves and he's so good at it,
and he's making and the rewarding him so good, so
they're not treating him bad, they're rewarding him really good.
And and he just loves every minute of it. And uh,
I think maybe one percent of the people that are
in the workforce love what they're doing, but most of us,
I'm probably the biggest one. You know, I've never had
(01:49:21):
a job that I really love doing and look forward
to going to So he just loves what he's doing
and he just has such an appreciation of everything. And
they and somebody mentioned that, you know, diving for the
ball at second base, running at you know, into the
fence and everything.
Speaker 2 (01:49:36):
Well it's I mean, uh, in the.
Speaker 22 (01:49:38):
Outfield, but at second base he dove forever ball, he
ran out to every ball hit, you know, popped into
right field with a danger, running into the outfield, crashing
into the wall may be something different, but I just
think the man is so lucky to be have have
the soul that he's got and love everything he does.
So he's not going to stir the pot or cause
(01:49:59):
any troll. He just to keep on loving what he does.
And that's what I think, that's what we all love
him for. So maybe that's the way he looks at it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:06):
Guys, I don't know, Gary, I think that's his poignant
as statement made. It's a couple deep on that too,
is one. I don't think it's a they're punishing, what
are you doing to the guy? I think it's they
believe he can do it. I think it's a compliment
to him saying that he now they mayn't want to.
There may be a double edged sword where they'd like
a sword where they'd like to move him out there
(01:50:28):
and want to bat in the outfield, think he can
play it. The fact that they think he can play
it's a compliment. If they move him off second base,
maybe they want to you know, somebody different, little younger whatever,
whose metrics. But you know what, Altwov can survive find
at second base, and he may thrive in left field
is a defender as well, So I don't think it's
a punishment move by them, and his willingness to do
it to me and them to trust him is a compliment.
(01:50:50):
And Gary, you are spot on very few people in
their work force now, the one percent. Gary said that
may find joy. I think you and I both in
triple love coming to our job. Yeah, absolutely, so we
fall under that. And that's not just that I love
love a three thirty way. I love coming to work,
yeah do. I absolutely love it. But right, but he
(01:51:13):
is right about al twove. I think that guy finds
more joy than anybody and just about everything. I don't
rarely see him in a bad mood from a distance,
so maybe he covers it well. But I think he does.
I think he finds joy with the family, with the wife,
with the kids, with the baseball, with his teammates, playing
wherever you want. I think he loves to compete, and
I think where he started and where he is he's
(01:51:36):
never forgot. Now, Gary, you're a spot on man. I'm
one percent. I am one hundred percent believe that if
you find joy, you do that job better. I do,
and al tuove is is. I feel like Altuve friggin
just loves being around his teammates and loves baseball. And
if you said, dude, we need you to d h
the whole season, he'd do it. If he said we
need you to we we got to drive the team
(01:51:57):
bus and then still hit lead off, I don't think
he'd have a problem with I just and usually that's
hyperbolic and it's kind of cheesy. I actually think this
guy everything about the game of baseball he loves. I
even thinks he realizes that when he's going through the struggles,
they he'll find his way out of it. So he
doesn't if he has a bad day. We don't see
much of them, I can tell you that, And he doesn't.
He doesn't lead on very much. He's just handled everything
(01:52:19):
like a like a everybody should love baseball, asm or
life as much as hell's out to, but he loves
his gig. Yeah, it said, Gary, that's a great point
by you stalktor Ryan. What's up, Rhino?
Speaker 7 (01:52:31):
I always gott to follow the profound ones. This is great.
Speaker 23 (01:52:34):
Uh, sitting over to post O for some work stuff.
Sorry for the Twitter fingers, dude, I've just been busy
trying to work out every morning. I'm not in a
date yall with phone calls, but I figured I'll call
in because I have an opinion.
Speaker 7 (01:52:44):
About the stadium thing.
Speaker 3 (01:52:45):
Uh.
Speaker 23 (01:52:46):
So, I all seem well traveled enough to have been
up to Dallas around Jerry's world.
Speaker 7 (01:52:52):
Where the Raiders play. That place.
Speaker 23 (01:52:55):
As much as I love talking about Dallas in a
negative way, that place is off Texan Live, Man, Texas
Live is sane.
Speaker 7 (01:53:04):
Yep.
Speaker 23 (01:53:05):
So if we were to build a new stadium for
the Texans, because I mean, you could renovate it, but
you have all this stuff out there that we're not
doing anything with. What if you just tore down the Astrodome,
Redd NRG, build the Astros a new stadium, put everything
right there in that parking lot and just have all
the fun stuff you could ever think of doing out there.
Speaker 7 (01:53:23):
You have way more space for the rodeo.
Speaker 23 (01:53:24):
Taxpayers wouldn't be so upset about it because now they
have something fun to go do, because every time I
drive down a minute made there's like three bars I'll
go to and then that's it. And then if I
go to a Texans game, you're there like there is
nothing to you.
Speaker 7 (01:53:38):
If you go to a Texans game, like you show up,
you tailgate, you go, there's nothing fun to do around
that place.
Speaker 23 (01:53:43):
So I wouldn't be opposed to rebuilding a stadium. I
don't know where they do it, but I feel like
we could have something really cool like they have up there.
But that's just my opinion. Also, Hey, I got Indy here.
Speaker 12 (01:53:52):
By the way.
Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
Nah, we haven't fall for it, all right, see you
guys right?
Speaker 2 (01:54:00):
Good try come on, we gotta better try. No, we
just know we did.
Speaker 1 (01:54:08):
Yeah, marinate and yeah, I love the way he just
like took it.
Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
He's like, okay, let's see later.
Speaker 1 (01:54:16):
I can tell you this, and it's you could take
it out iver you want. These are just the facts
in the traveled to Ballparks. The combination of things to
do around the stadium in a ballpark.
Speaker 2 (01:54:29):
This is as bad as it gets in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:54:31):
It's the college base I mean the worst in in
football basketball combined baseball, basketball, football baseball. Two facilities the
baseball park. Yeah, I guess you can include toilets if
you want. But I'm just talking about when you go
the combination of what to do around minute made and
(01:54:51):
what to do around.
Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
The touchs n r G.
Speaker 1 (01:54:57):
It's it lacks more entertainment than any than any place
in the country that I can remember. Now, you say,
you go to Kansas City, it's just a big parking
lot with two huge with royal stadium and with the Chiefs,
you know, facility, we'll get gee apart, Yeah is it?
But that's all that's just tailgate and then you got
(01:55:18):
to go down to you know, a certain place to
go to. I'm just talking about. Am I right or wrong?
You don't like UHM is gonna bring the noise? Yeah,
of course, But.
Speaker 6 (01:55:28):
You don't like uh you don't like the homeless camps
that are right outside of Dyking Park, almost like urine.
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
And not being mean, But am I right?
Speaker 7 (01:55:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:55:37):
To do with fans have nothing to do with who's invested.
Speaker 1 (01:55:38):
But there's no near the Texans Stadium, nothing said, nothing
teventy five grand can't go there, Okay, that's or tailgate.
Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
Tailgating's fine.
Speaker 6 (01:55:49):
And then for Mini Ma Park, Iken Park, whatever you
gotta walk. I mean at least there's edo right there.
Speaker 1 (01:55:54):
But still yeah, no, there's a couple of plays when
you go down and go to a night like well
Vic and Anthony, so you can stay cast. You know,
there's place there. But I'm talking about the entertainment part
of the count right, and so in truth, both and
I know mister Crane's working on it over there.
Speaker 6 (01:56:09):
I want to say construction on it. Actually both need
a major, major entertainment upgrade. Majors in understanding, major, no doubt.
I just I don't know, I figured you'd like the uh,
like what the homeless guys are, you know right there
in Dyking Park under the bridge.
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
I don't have a problem with them. They don't bother me.
I'm you know me, I'll pick them up and take
them home. Yeah, there's just you know, yeah, what do
you got to say about it? What's your point? No,
I just you're just just just just pontificating.
Speaker 2 (01:56:42):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 7 (01:56:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:56:43):
Yeah, just I'm thinking of the entertainment industry. Yeah, well
by those of us are the industry.
Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
Dyking by Diking Park. Yeah, it's terrible. And over in
n RG.
Speaker 1 (01:56:51):
There's literally nothing quite literally nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
It's not clear there, there's nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:56:55):
If you're not six ten and uh hanging left or
right a camera, it's what it is. And boom there's Popsito's.
You know, if you want a pregame there. Yeah, good
Mexican food, I agree, but oh.
Speaker 2 (01:57:06):
Yeah, the food's good there.
Speaker 1 (01:57:08):
Yeah, but if seventy five thousand people ain't going there, okay,
I'd like a few more choices.
Speaker 2 (01:57:13):
That's all. A couple of don't let's not start on
that conversation again.
Speaker 1 (01:57:18):
So I'm just saying for such a great city, with
such a large city, yeah, passions in good sports town. Yeah,
we could use more entertainment around Toyota Center, uh huh
minute made or Dyiking Yeah and n Argi, Yeah, no doubt.
Because of the three major sports franchises, we'd probably finish
in the bottom third or bottom three, I don't think so.
(01:57:40):
Overall of what to do before and after the game
by the Ballparker Stadium, We've got some fixing to do.
Speaker 2 (01:57:48):
Yeah, we do, sure do.
Speaker 6 (01:57:49):
All right, Let's keep talking Astros as we get in

Astros continuing spring training this morning. Rockets are off tonight.
University of Houston beats Arizona State. Last night over in Tempe.
They continue their streak of wins on the road, less
than a month away from March Madness. Some news from
Joe Aspota this morning over at Astros Camp.
Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
Brendan Rodgers. It was broke.
Speaker 6 (01:59:12):
The news was broken last night or broke last night
of Brendan Rodgers. Former gold Glover played with the Colorado
Rockies last year that he would be signed to a
minor league deal with the Astros. That deal is not official,
but they like the tools. Jose Altuvey is gonna work
exclusively with the outfielders for the next four to five days.
(01:59:33):
His first grape Fruit League game will be in the
outfield and then one of the top prospects for the
Astro Sean Jacob Melton has mild back soreness. Also, Caleb
ort His oblique soreness will take some time.
Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
According to Joaspota, all right.
Speaker 6 (01:59:52):
That's great. I love it. Injuries right out of the gate.
That's three of them. Jacob Belton, Caleb Ard, Sean Duban,
fantastic death taxes and injuries and spring training for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (02:00:05):
That's where you're going with that. Ysh, it sucks with
some Meltons is strained back, tired back, smiled back soreness, soreness, mild.
Speaker 6 (02:00:18):
Mild back soreness. Take some ibuprofen and get out there.
Ibuprofene equals I be playing.
Speaker 2 (02:00:22):
Cuz yeah, and ice. We said in college, ice it
up do.
Speaker 1 (02:00:26):
Let's go cold plunge ice it up, cold, plunging, icy,
HoTT it and let's get to swing in the lumber.
Speaker 2 (02:00:31):
You feel me. Yeah, I'm picking up what you putting.
Speaker 22 (02:00:33):
Say.
Speaker 1 (02:00:33):
You can't make the club where on the bench in
the tub, in the tub you can make the club and.
Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
The can't meet the club in the tub?
Speaker 4 (02:00:39):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:00:39):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:00:41):
Yeah, you know what they say? What do they say? Whoa,
that's racist? What do you mean you gotta go to
triple for it? I didn't have anything off the guy?
What do you guys say?
Speaker 7 (02:00:56):
That's how we say.
Speaker 1 (02:00:58):
Here we go, I got you, we get Okay, just wait,
just wait for it for it's coming, right, go ahead,
play yeah, go ahead, Hey say it again, Brian, we're talking.
You say, yeah, yeah, you've been.
Speaker 2 (02:01:16):
Doing that to me in Black History Month? What are
you talking about?
Speaker 1 (02:01:18):
So we go like yeah, we go like this, hey,
well Brian, what what do they say?
Speaker 2 (02:01:24):
What do they say? Okay, you go, I don't know
if you're talking to.
Speaker 9 (02:01:27):
Me, you're talking.
Speaker 1 (02:01:28):
He all of a sudden, you shut your exit stage
left to the brother and say what do they They.
Speaker 2 (02:01:34):
Said, Yeah, all right, now, I got it.
Speaker 24 (02:01:37):
I got it.
Speaker 4 (02:01:38):
That's my bad.
Speaker 2 (02:01:38):
That's my bad.
Speaker 1 (02:01:41):
Classic when you said I was like, wait what yeah,
I get it?
Speaker 2 (02:01:45):
It was Robert Downey Junior. Yeah, I get it. Yeah,
class Robert Downey Jr's uh he is he's white?
Speaker 1 (02:01:52):
Oh yeah, yeah, we all figured that one out. Oh
classic though, what you're talking about there? Yeah that was funny.
Took his You're like, what are you talking about? What
did they say? But I'll tell you about you work.
You can't make the club of the tub, Brighto, you
just can't. I hate injuries. And here's the difference is
(02:02:15):
that these are more than likely you're hurt. You're not injured.
Injured last a lot long. Let's let's hope that that
oblique strain is not an injury, right there? Did hey
hear the words?
Speaker 7 (02:02:26):
Right, Brian?
Speaker 2 (02:02:27):
You know how you see the ball?
Speaker 1 (02:02:28):
Hear the words because not you, any of us, because
there's uh some knowledge spoken in them their words.
Speaker 2 (02:02:35):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (02:02:36):
You dig deep and you start, oh, gonna be out
for a while. That's preparing you for the may not
see him for a couple of weeks, that's what that's prepared.
Speaker 6 (02:02:46):
Sucks because then he's going to be behind everything, you know,
so he won't be ready for open it.
Speaker 1 (02:02:50):
And then a mild little mild backstrain is that what
is mild back. Well, if it is mild, there is
that there is that plunge bowl and be back out
of work tomorrow. That's why I look at it. If
it's mild, right, yeah, man, But I mean I'm here,
they're there. We just sit back and ride.
Speaker 6 (02:03:09):
How much do you think opening day tickets are for
the Astros right now?
Speaker 2 (02:03:12):
For the Mets series?
Speaker 1 (02:03:13):
Yes, opening Day Thursday three ten. Yeah, regular, the regular
start of the season.
Speaker 7 (02:03:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:03:18):
For what, like, give me the area.
Speaker 1 (02:03:22):
Let's go section one eight, which is basically my.
Speaker 2 (02:03:26):
First or third space line.
Speaker 1 (02:03:27):
Okay for per ticket, Yeah, I'm gonna say buck fifty lower,
ninety eight a little higher, one seven seven.
Speaker 6 (02:03:38):
Not Bad's the cheapest. I can remember one which is
out there by the bullpen in right field. Eighty bucks.
Speaker 2 (02:03:47):
That's those. I like those. That's steal.
Speaker 1 (02:03:49):
But I like those seats sometimes more than I do
the I kind of like just up there, like in
Crawford boxes, are in the right field seats little a
little off the line, maybe pushing towards the right center.
Speaker 12 (02:04:00):
Eary.
Speaker 1 (02:04:00):
I like those seats over there too. Honestly, I think
they're pretty cool.
Speaker 6 (02:04:05):
This is obviously before fees, so Joe Biden ever, fixed that.
I thought he was thought he was working on that,
you know that before he left.
Speaker 2 (02:04:13):
No, he didn't. It wasn't a priority. Great, damn Joey.
Speaker 1 (02:04:18):
Making sure we don't put Fauci and Guantanamo Bay is mistake.
Speaker 2 (02:04:24):
Okay, but who's counting anyway?
Speaker 7 (02:04:29):
That?
Speaker 1 (02:04:30):
Yeah, I don't know if he ever finished that one out, Brian?
Are the fees still there?
Speaker 2 (02:04:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:04:35):
Well there's your answer. There's still there's your answer, there's
your production. Yeah, yees, today is today, it's tomorrow. The
chickens let me this day is today?
Speaker 2 (02:04:46):
Anyway? I yeah, I don't. I don't know. Man, those
fees and yeah, what did you say?
Speaker 7 (02:04:52):
It was?
Speaker 2 (02:04:52):
How much? One? What? What fees? It'll be one ninety
eight fifty? You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 14 (02:04:59):
Have you ever do.
Speaker 7 (02:05:04):
So?
Speaker 9 (02:05:05):
Live today?
Speaker 2 (02:05:06):
You do have to live today.
Speaker 9 (02:05:08):
The future today will be as the past today.
Speaker 1 (02:05:13):
As it is tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
You guys are all crack. What happened to you?
Speaker 7 (02:05:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:05:20):
Those fees will cut you deep, though, won't they? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:05:22):
Hell yeah, they're ridiculous. Yeah, those fees will cut me.
You'll bitch about a dollar fifty delivery.
Speaker 2 (02:05:28):
If it's not the price, it's the principal.
Speaker 1 (02:05:29):
Yeah, I mean you got your some bicky d's, you know, sausage,
egg and cheese, baby, a little spicy yeah, chicken. And
then what happens. You'll sit there and say, man, I
got a couple of breakfast sanches, and you'll be fired
up to do it.
Speaker 17 (02:05:41):
And then you'll look down, you'll say, what you're charging
seventy five shits to deliver this? I'm in a meal prep,
you are fired up.
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
I'll give me.
Speaker 17 (02:05:57):
I'll get two sausage biscuits, chicken, spicy sausage biscuits, and
a sausage egg and cheese mcmuffet with extra sausage patty
to ash brown and a large coke. Yeah, ok, man,
food prices are expensive, but I still love the food,
which is like fifty two dollars. Course, he says, oh,
forget it. For forget it. The delivery fee seventy five
(02:06:22):
cents if it's not.
Speaker 4 (02:06:23):
Here on time?
Speaker 17 (02:06:24):
Of what all my food free? After he spent fifty
bucks on salwches, he's fisted in seventy five cents. Maybe
that is the principal I spent all the money.
Speaker 1 (02:06:33):
Why you're charging me exactly?
Speaker 6 (02:06:35):
You know, it's funny because you mentioned earlier, like six
or seven, you're like, man, let's get some Mickey D's.
And I said, no, dude, I brought meal prep all right, fine.
Then later on you're like, well, I offered, I'm looking
at at at an app right now. Jack in the
Box no delivery fee, McDonald's no delivery fee, Chick fil
A no delivery fee, and Waterburger no delivery fee of course,
right fester the morning.
Speaker 1 (02:06:55):
Where I deny it, right, You're like that you'll go
back tomorrow, will be five dollars to deliver. Yeah, Brian,
Brian's that guy though, Bran Bran, that's that guy that's
craving one restaurant and they won't have it. They'll have
a five dollars two dollars delivery feed and the other
one won't. He's really not craving their food, but he'll
get the food that he's really not craving. Not to
pay the fifty cents extra, Yeah, figured, priceless, dude.
Speaker 2 (02:07:17):
I love your principal.
Speaker 17 (02:07:18):
What yeah, forty nine dollars in the juilery fees fifty cents?
Speaker 9 (02:07:23):
Are they crazy?
Speaker 6 (02:07:25):
Yeah, he's not paying three ninety nine facts that's taken.
Take a quid call before. It's unbelievable. What's that Martin?
Speaker 25 (02:07:35):
Hey, I know y'all mentioned about Black History Month a
while ago. Someone mentioned about Black History Month with seven
forty and seven ninety.
Speaker 12 (02:07:46):
What I hear?
Speaker 25 (02:07:47):
I don't think y'all are allowed to celebrate Black History Month?
Speaker 7 (02:07:50):
I mean, well we did.
Speaker 25 (02:07:52):
Yes, is White History.
Speaker 1 (02:07:54):
Month celebrating We talked about it for about fifteen to
twenty minutes yesterday, had a great car conversation about why
we honor it and celebrate it on our show. So
I'm not sure what that umbrella is talking about. But
I don't even know. I don't know what White History
Month is, but I do know this is Black History Month,
and we were very we dove deep as we could
two segments worth actually actually yeah, which is about the
(02:08:16):
twenty five minutes worth. So I think that I don't
know what everybody else is doing, but I know from
six to ten on this show, we paid it off
and the the R word doesn't exist on this show.
So you're talking about the wrong people, That's what I thought.
I'll get your ass off our line. Where do you go?
Speaker 2 (02:08:33):
What a dick? Yeah? Well, what are you trying to
do there? Martin?
Speaker 6 (02:08:37):
To Honestly, bro, what are we trying to do there?
You just wasted a minute of your life being a
dumb ass. Well listen, don't call back.
Speaker 1 (02:08:43):
Remember what we talked about yesterday, jackassed, we talked about yesterday.
Now that right there, that right there is the hate
white guy everybody lives under the CID. Did you talking
about celebrating a month. Yeah, that's the guy right there
that has disdained for you, even though you that's my point,
(02:09:03):
remember when I said, it's the people who constantly that
debate it all the time, even though they don't know
what goes on on a show. That guy right there
is the reason it exists. And I don't know him
from Adam and I don't care to. But as you notice,
when you shut him down, they come, he comes at
you with their their their follow up i q's about
a four. Yeah, and their common sense i Q is stupid.
(02:09:25):
So yeah, we're here. If you need us, you come
in and talk to us and school us on Black
History Month, which apparently we were way out in front
of it before you were, So there you go.
Speaker 6 (02:09:33):
You know, I think he brought up our sister station,
news Radio seven four.
Speaker 2 (02:09:38):
Apparently he's listening. Huh. What they do over the show
is what they do.
Speaker 6 (02:09:41):
What we do on our show is completely different, as
is different from I don't the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross and the eighteen worre Sean Bryan and Tripoli.
Speaker 1 (02:09:49):
Yeah go now, like you want to talk about what
goes on from six to ten? Fine, what goes on
the other ones? I don't know. I don't listen to you.
You go ahead and get whatever you want at it.
But I guess we'll be your come on here. But
if you think it's going to be a punching bag,
we hit back.
Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:10:03):
So they so you're wrong and you barking up a tree.
Speaker 2 (02:10:06):
That's wrong.
Speaker 1 (02:10:07):
But every now and then you'll get a guy who
is the very reason that that word exists.
Speaker 6 (02:10:13):
And Martin from Engleton. There you go, there you go.
You're the biggest ever called our show.
Speaker 2 (02:10:18):
What a shock? What a shock? Idiot man seven one three.
Don't let him. He might be a really good guy.
Speaker 6 (02:10:24):
He's probably just like he's just really white history we're doing.
Speaker 2 (02:10:29):
He's you know what he is, he's ignorant, ignorant.
Speaker 6 (02:10:31):
That seven one three, two one two five seven ninety
is the number to join. Got Another update in regards
to Brendan Rodgers. Is he gonna be an astro or not?
We'll talk about it next.
Speaker 5 (02:10:43):
This is the shot in Salisbury show.
Speaker 9 (02:10:45):
Yes, yes, that's very nice.
Speaker 5 (02:10:48):
Now with that fresh leather scent on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (02:10:53):
Ninety, come in with that agenda, dude, it wouldn't have
had You could have been talking about, uh you're a
new car or a new truck.
Speaker 2 (02:11:05):
You can talk about travel. You could have been talking
about uh food, And he was. It was gonna be hey, man,
I hear you guys, are you know darn't yalls you'd
send forty seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:11:17):
Aren't y'all like brother stations like come on, I'm down
here in Angleton fishing.
Speaker 2 (02:11:23):
No that he was.
Speaker 1 (02:11:24):
He wanted to way man, dude, Yeah, come on, Like
I said, dude, he's It won't be the first call
time he calls a show around here. It hasn't been that.
Guys like that. You don't laugh with him, you laugh
at him.
Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
He's probably gonna call seven forty today.
Speaker 1 (02:11:39):
How would he know what seven forty is doing because
he's listening, say Louder.
Speaker 6 (02:11:44):
He's probably gonna be right this seven fun Coach all
seven ninety show today, and I can't believe they mentioned
what History month. And I guarantee you the host over
there are gonna be like the it's their own show man,
what's wrong with them doing that?
Speaker 7 (02:11:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:11:59):
And then you got my my favorite thing too, is
is with when you got an agenda about it, it's
you start to say there and think, do.
Speaker 2 (02:12:09):
You need a hug?
Speaker 12 (02:12:11):
Be?
Speaker 7 (02:12:11):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:12:13):
Well had to.
Speaker 6 (02:12:14):
He needs he needs a he needs a you know
what he you know who he needs. He needs Dank
de Moss, you know what he needs. He needs the
fat ass rapper Jesus that too.
Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
He needs love and just to just empty the bucket.
Tell me how you're feeling. Here's hop on that couch
over there. You're good, We're good. No, you didn't bother
us because well it's it's agenda filled and we know
that you were gonna call if I asked about, you know,
frosted flakes, you were going to turn it into one
(02:12:44):
of those comments. Should have dropped, We should have dropped
the these notes and these nuts jokes. He's probably a
really good guy. Maybe he's no doubt it.
Speaker 6 (02:12:52):
I really doubt he's a good guy, because a guy
with that type of mind mindset is actually gonna talk
about him on air. That's not a good person. Maybe
don't even give him that credit. In Baby, he's probably no,
he probably just lives his life. Well, that's a bad life.
Speaker 2 (02:13:05):
That is about.
Speaker 1 (02:13:06):
If you've got to carry around that burden, that's gonna
be totally just wake up.
Speaker 2 (02:13:10):
Angry and mad at the world all the time. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:13:15):
Well, unfortunately he can't get me in a bad mood.
Speaker 2 (02:13:17):
No way, man, happy man? You good golf weather out?
Speaker 12 (02:13:20):
You know?
Speaker 2 (02:13:20):
No, that sucks.
Speaker 6 (02:13:21):
Good you're wearing you got some look like some bases
if you're gonna go hop in a deer lease or
if you're gonna go, you know, play some golf.
Speaker 1 (02:13:29):
We didn't buy my drift. Pretty strong. It's pretty strong,
pretty strong, color coordinated, very really nice. Yeah, yeah, that's
good stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
I might I might be hopping in the lease. You
never know in the lease? Oh okay, you never know?
Speaker 1 (02:13:40):
Is he down?
Speaker 7 (02:13:41):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (02:13:43):
Did I smoked?
Speaker 2 (02:13:44):
He's smoking? Start to Roger?
Speaker 9 (02:13:49):
Was that Roger?
Speaker 7 (02:13:51):
What up?
Speaker 12 (02:13:52):
Man?
Speaker 7 (02:13:52):
Get my horse back?
Speaker 8 (02:13:54):
You man?
Speaker 7 (02:13:55):
Anyway?
Speaker 4 (02:13:56):
Uh?
Speaker 26 (02:13:56):
Yeah, if you want to know what a verbal fart
sounds like, that's what that one before my previous call it?
Speaker 1 (02:14:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, he missed the alive and.
Speaker 26 (02:14:08):
Well, I think they're rich is alive and well it's
ways way five make the mistake.
Speaker 19 (02:14:17):
Any who.
Speaker 14 (02:14:18):
Uh So I think I'm gonna.
Speaker 26 (02:14:21):
I'm gonna, I'm gonna revise my I'm gonna, I'm gonna
calm down my my. Astro's uh in careers until at
least twenty five games into the season, and then I'll
then I'll, you know, we'll him back with the rest
of the guys on the Rockets.
Speaker 7 (02:14:34):
Uh, it's gonna be a big game tonight. I want
to see what these guys with.
Speaker 26 (02:14:37):
All the rest and all the hoop line, and they
they showed up like the like they're like they were
double park in the last game, like they were ready
to go.
Speaker 7 (02:14:47):
So hopefully he may has got them, you know, you know,
at least give him some kind of talk and let
him know he sick and have a seed.
Speaker 26 (02:14:53):
It's trying to punch out these sixteen games and get
into that fifty win column and let's go.
Speaker 7 (02:14:58):
Maybe. So that's glad to say.
Speaker 26 (02:15:00):
Boy, you gotta stay warm out there, man, it's getting
kind of chilly and windy out here.
Speaker 1 (02:15:06):
Roger great, great stuff, Roger good to hear about it,
but good to hear that you're feeling better. Let's talk
to Brad.
Speaker 27 (02:15:11):
Was that Brad, y'all were talking about agents earlier in
the show.
Speaker 7 (02:15:17):
But this Brendan Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (02:15:18):
Yeah, how does a.
Speaker 27 (02:15:19):
Guy hit two sixty last year and get some minor
league invitation? When I think they signed that ex Mets
player who played with the Astros and did pretty good
last year, we're a little saying yeah, and he got
a million dollar contract. So Brendan Rodgers was not being
properly represented.
Speaker 7 (02:15:40):
He needs an agent. Maybe.
Speaker 27 (02:15:42):
I don't know, because that didn't make any sense. How
somebody has to sign a minor league contract when they're
probably still at a young age and he was a
Gold Glover once year and now he's hit two sixty
last year. That doesn't make any sense minor league contract.
Why does he got to prove him It's a.
Speaker 1 (02:16:00):
Good point, Brad, Good, thank you absolutely. Man to sixty
seven last year. That's why I said, that's not a
minor leaguer. It's not a minor league, right, that's a
major league baseball Yeah, exactly. So I if if what
we're talking about is true, then his regular contract will
kick in, right, Yeah, because if if that's that's not
(02:16:21):
a that's a major league player. Yeah, you're in two
sixty to two seventy on a major league 'sho winning
gold gloves. You're not a minor league player unless you're
down there to rehab an injury. Right, you're not non
injured or you're forty and you're just trying to find
your swing before you retire. Like Julie Gurriel ran on, right, Yeah,
this is this is this is not a minor league player.
For me, it feels like a formality.
Speaker 6 (02:16:38):
Yeah, I think so. Maybe it has something to do
with I don't know the money situation, the tax bracket
or whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (02:16:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (02:16:47):
It's there's some sort of formality there for sure, spring training, invite,
minor league contract, whatever. I mean, we know that the
career that he's had so far, gold Glover, it's hit
two sixty seven for the Rockies last year. Really good defender.
He's not a minor leaguer. This isn't This isn't a
twenty two year old. Yeah, so great call, great point. Yeah,
that was a good point.
Speaker 7 (02:17:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:17:07):
I mean a guy who's a minor leaguer, you don't
sit here envision that he actually could be the starting
second baseman. You know, he's a major leaguer. Yeah, who's
just getting a little slight? Yeah, who's been. I don't
know if it's a little Just take care of your
business and we'll get that. You know, it obviously doesn't
stay a minor league contract when it kicks into a
major league player.
Speaker 2 (02:17:23):
But incentive or not, just go do it. You go
hit two seventy.
Speaker 6 (02:17:27):
Yeah, you'll playing think about this real quick. I'm just
gonna name out a lineup here for you, not not
in any orders positions. Jord Has behind the plate, Christian
Walker at first, Brendan Rodgers at second, Jeremy Penny at short,
Esac Pretis at third, lose all duve and left, Ben
Gammel in right, and Chas McCormick in center. Just think
(02:17:50):
about those names. No Tucker, no Bregman, no Ryan Pressey
in the bullpen, No George Springer, no Carlos Correa, no
Justin Verlander, no Garrett Cole.
Speaker 1 (02:18:00):
You know when people say like, none of the dudes,
they're all gone, and your dh yard on Appum, I'm sorry,
your yard on appay. You think about this when people
talk about man get rid of our car. We're going
to rebuild. The truth is you've been rebuilding for since Springer.
I mean when I say rebuilding, re stocking and retooling
since since since Springing the Charlie Morton pitches in Springer
(02:18:23):
and just you just and that's the normal progression and
pro sports roster changes. But baseball there's a little more stability.
Speaker 7 (02:18:32):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:18:32):
You're saying you're starting eight the year before, unless somebody's
read usually starting eight to the next year. In football,
you're starting safety. Could very well be the starting safety
on the Kansas City Chiefs next year. Yeah, for whatever,
it just doesn't happen. It doesn't feel like it happens
as often. That's a line. I mean, like I sit
here and say, you know what Philadelphia's lineup is, You
pretty got a pretty good idea, yeah, right, or at
the end you've got a pretty good idea, right, And
saying with the Acids, But names are you know, the
(02:18:55):
Rappers the same, just some of the names in the
Rapper different are different, right, But they really have been
retooling because they haven't just lost guys, they've lost core
their baseball team year after year after year and find
their way back.
Speaker 6 (02:19:07):
Names changed, faces stay the same. So I'm talking about that, Uh,
what is it?
Speaker 1 (02:19:13):
Author Brian Oliva, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, from The Little
Black Book. Yeah, author Brianlliva. Man, you really do author
a lot of quotes, don't you. It's pretty good in it.
But you know what I do give respect that you
actually give the you're actually credit it to to where you.
Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
Know, thank you appreciate that.
Speaker 9 (02:19:34):
Mike Nomas that.
Speaker 1 (02:19:38):
Anyway anyway shows rolling fast, We got peeps rolling yeah. Yeah.
Let's talk Cougar basketball. Now, who's closer to win a championship?
Coug's let's go again, Coug's astros, Coug's astros, Texans or Rockets.
(02:20:01):
Who's primed? Who right now is in the best position
to come away with the hardware?
Speaker 9 (02:20:06):
Next?
Speaker 6 (02:20:07):
On Sports Talk seven ninety, The Shawn Salisbury Show continued,
then twenty six man roster, he'll get his major league
salary huh, and then on that that guy is gonna
have to be DFA.
Speaker 2 (02:20:20):
Somebody's gonna be DFA moved or what have you.
Speaker 6 (02:20:22):
Yeah, appreciate that, Dan oh Mat on the on the
A Team two to six, Uh, Matt Thomas Show with
Ross coming to you live from West Palm Beach Astros
Spring Training.
Speaker 2 (02:20:35):
That's uh from ten am to two pm.
Speaker 6 (02:20:37):
I'm sure they'll have on a couple of guys U
throughout the show, So make sure to stay locked to
Sports Talk seven out of your home for Astros Baseball,
also the home of your Houston Rockets, and we love
our Astros in Houston and across the Lone Star State,
all across it, all across the Lone Star State.
Speaker 2 (02:20:53):
What's up, Drew?
Speaker 7 (02:20:55):
What's having at Phyllis? Been a while?
Speaker 4 (02:20:59):
Drew?
Speaker 1 (02:20:59):
Are you man?
Speaker 12 (02:21:00):
Man?
Speaker 24 (02:21:03):
I know, I know I need to start calling in. Well,
I listen, I just need to start calling you know.
You know how life get sometimes?
Speaker 1 (02:21:08):
Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, Yeah, there's times we don't want
to come in.
Speaker 2 (02:21:11):
No, I'm kidding. I get you, brother, We're all.
Speaker 24 (02:21:13):
For you already. Well, yeah, it is good to talk
to y'all again. Wanted to get in on that Cougar talk.
I for sure think the Cougars are closest to the championship.
Speaker 7 (02:21:26):
I know, you know, March.
Speaker 24 (02:21:27):
Madness is what it is, and even though you see
a team perform all year long, anything can happen in
that tournament. But when you talk about the guys that
he's recruited Sam Samson. When you talk about the guys
that he's recruited, the guys that transfer from other schools
that want to come to play for him, and then
you talk about the guy himself, I think he's the
(02:21:47):
best coach in the country. I think he's the best
NCAA basketball coach in the country. And I don't think
you can say that about the Ashtros Texans or even
the Rockets, because you know, he may have some of
his deficiencies all offense and rotations. I think, and I'll
even go a step for further, I think they're the
closest to having a dynasty, uh in the in the
(02:22:08):
city of Houston, because I don't know.
Speaker 7 (02:22:10):
I'm pretty sure y'all seen it.
Speaker 24 (02:22:11):
But Man, them recruits that he has coming in next year,
they are monsters. Man, I'm talking about He's he's got
what the number one center in the nation.
Speaker 6 (02:22:20):
Yes, the number guard he's got. He's got two of
the top recruits. I want to say, like, you're right, Yes,
one of the centers is one of the point guards.
There are two of the top It's insane.
Speaker 24 (02:22:30):
Yeah, yeah, Well, I think the point guard, I think
he's like top five, that Kingston swimming guy. But uh,
the shooting guard. I think he's the number one shooting
guard in the country if I'm if I'm not mistaken,
and and he said, I'm not done yet, So it's
gonna be exciting to see. Man, these guys love to
play for him.
Speaker 7 (02:22:48):
Uh.
Speaker 24 (02:22:48):
He coaches it the right way. It's a culture and man,
I'm a I'm proud of my Cougars. I can't wait
for this big game on Saturday. I might try to
pull up to the campus real quick, try to.
Speaker 7 (02:22:58):
See if I can get on TV. But uh, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (02:23:02):
And uh yeah, I just I just want to Andrew
before you go.
Speaker 1 (02:23:06):
I don't want when it comes to they are building
a dynasty, even though it hasn't you know, culminated in
a national title, which I think it can again this year.
We know how because they do the things you have
to do to give yourself a chance. They defend, they rebound,
and they contest all the shots. They just got a
knocked down shots at key moments. We know that because
they're gonna and they will be well conditioned.
Speaker 2 (02:23:25):
But I'm with you. I said it on this show.
Speaker 1 (02:23:27):
I think he's the best coach in Texas in any sport,
and I think in college basketball. You know there's that
list of Bill self. You know, Danny Hurley's proven that
he belongs. Uh, Tom Izzo. You know, there's a group
of them that are like those. There's some really good coaches,
we know that, but none better than the guy there's
there's none, none better than the guy we got here.
Imagine in truth, if he had Kentucky's bandwidth when it
(02:23:51):
came to one and day, if he had that that
that uh and I all that stuff that goes with
recruiting from Duke or Kentucky. Look what coach Sampson's done here.
He's made it a nation spot. They win, They know
the expectations that he has for them coming in and
they're building anil and doing all that.
Speaker 2 (02:24:06):
They're doing some great things. I don't disagree.
Speaker 1 (02:24:09):
If there's a better coach in the country at everything
and caring about the kids and teaching basketball and life skills,
there's nobody better than him in America.
Speaker 2 (02:24:20):
And Drew real quick he's got.
Speaker 6 (02:24:22):
Sampson has signed the number one center, the number four
shooting guard, and the number three point guard. The center
is number seven nationally. The shooting guard is number sixteen nationally,
and then the point guard is number twenty three nationally.
Speaker 1 (02:24:39):
Now, when's the last time, pre coach Sam, you got
that many top flight recruits drew great stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:24:45):
And that's no knock here.
Speaker 1 (02:24:46):
But think about this when I say, when you've just
read what you read, you know what you're thinking, Kentucky, Duke,
North Carolina, UCLA, maybe University of Arizona, Gonzaga. You start
to think about the bat. Now with the way the
SEC he's playing, Hell, you can take Tennessee, Florida. I'll
burn a bunch of them. Alabama's been playing great, they're
they're all over. But I'm talking about the blue blood
(02:25:07):
programs where you're like, damn right, and he say, well,
where are those recruits going? University Houston? Yeah, And a
lot of that is simply that they win. Their facility
is cozy and awesome, and coach Sampson's as good as
there is in America.
Speaker 6 (02:25:23):
Chris Period Chris Sanak junior, six ' ten, two thirty three.
He's listed as a power forward. And then Isaiah Harwell
shooting guard, sixty six two hundred pounds, Kingston Fleming six three,
one seventy five and they got.
Speaker 2 (02:25:35):
A kid right down that I've heard about.
Speaker 1 (02:25:37):
The kid yees.
Speaker 2 (02:25:38):
Yeah, man, he's he's talented.
Speaker 6 (02:25:39):
Then you got a kid from right down the road
playing at Shadow Creek High School, Bryce Jackson six five. Uh,
he's the number forty five ranked recruit out of the
shooting guard position. So he's a good player as well.
Speaker 1 (02:25:51):
Yeah, the future is bright and right now they're not
worried about their recruiting, but it's the present.
Speaker 2 (02:25:55):
No, they're and for these guys, Sorry for these guys.
They're all signed delivery at.
Speaker 1 (02:26:00):
The future of the future on the court, right they
get those guys out there running I'm talking of and
Coach Sampson's right now concerned with how am I going
to get this team to win a national title this
year and do everything that they do in every moment
for a six game run in the tournament.
Speaker 2 (02:26:12):
Yeah, it's impressive. Wait, yeah, he's unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (02:26:14):
And talking about Kelvin Sampson and University of Houston, they
they host the Kelvin Sampson Show from.
Speaker 2 (02:26:21):
Where else but J barr M Barbecue.
Speaker 1 (02:26:25):
Why wouldn't they best food, best barbecue, best place, best
pre and post game with a location for the Astros parking.
It's free, and they have a parking lot. And the
atmosphere indoor outdoors off the charts. I don't know. If
I'm been to a lot of places when it comes
to barbecue and environment, there may not be any better there.
(02:26:46):
I love this partnership and they're run by great, great
people who are just like they want to.
Speaker 2 (02:26:50):
They grind.
Speaker 1 (02:26:51):
I mean they're they're they're every day doing their thing
and it's phenomenal, phenomenal spot.
Speaker 6 (02:26:55):
They got a fantastic brunch menu. It's both on Saturday
and from eleven am to three pm. They've got Bloody Mary's,
They've got breakfast foods. They've got all the drinks and
bars you can think of. They've got brisket, turkey, chicken.
Their sides are phenomenal. They got a dog park. You
can bring your dog, you can bring your kids. They
got an outdoor venue for concerts. And the best part
(02:27:17):
is it's right there by minute May Park excuse me,
dyke In Park and Toyota Center pre and postgame spot.
Speaker 1 (02:27:22):
Yeah, it'd be a great place to have a cold
one and eat good food. You know, it's crazy too
when they set that food in front of us, ude.
It was like, you can't do a sprint around it
fast enough to taste it all off the charts. Great
partnership and we're glad to be a part of it.
Speaker 6 (02:27:34):
Two to two zero one Leland Street. They've got their
own parking lot. You don't have to pay to park.
It's right there by Toyota Center, right there by dyke

Speaker 6 (02:28:25):

the Bible. But damn Cody shut up and sing. Anyways,
he's singing in Nashville, and he brought out Luke Combs, Yeah,
Lucas Skywalkers to uh sing uh ice cold beer never

Speaker 6 (02:31:26):
I gotta get one more call in who he thinks
closest to winning Martin needs a b b W.
Speaker 7 (02:31:31):
It's the Texans.
Speaker 2 (02:31:32):
The NCAA tournament is way too much.
Speaker 7 (02:31:34):
Too much travel, gonna be too much.
Speaker 2 (02:31:36):
God bless you guys, happy White Guy Western wednesdayn out.
Speaker 1 (02:31:40):
So he's talking about the the the the that six
game runs a little much with the transferring. You know,
you're going to different the way I look at that.
Everybody's got to do it right. But he makes a
good point. It's a hard road. It is a hard road. Yeah, O,
g Q, your last for today's show on a Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (02:31:59):
What's happening?
Speaker 7 (02:32:01):
Well, you guys got me rolling.
Speaker 9 (02:32:04):
I don't be.
Speaker 2 (02:32:09):
Show what's happening on?
Speaker 1 (02:32:13):
Man?
Speaker 19 (02:32:13):
Say man, you guys, Man, y'all the bens. Man, y'all,
y'all guys about far the bench on the radio. Man, Uh,
I have to call it. I have to call it
behind that that that dummy that uh called me with
that mess man, you guys was one of some of
the most humble down eard guys. I don't even know you,
(02:32:35):
but I feel like I do. And uh so you
know I don't want child no man coming from head Brother.
Speaker 7 (02:32:41):
Hey, man, y'all got my card here.
Speaker 2 (02:32:43):
That's what I'm talking about, GQ. Man.
Speaker 1 (02:32:46):
Yeah, I mean I love the head Brother.
Speaker 24 (02:32:48):
I like that.
Speaker 19 (02:32:50):
And one thing man about Black History month.
Speaker 7 (02:32:53):
Man.
Speaker 19 (02:32:54):
When I was a kid, I remember going to see
lou Al sender, you know, play against Helvin Hazel and
the but he didn't even have the bestky hook.
Speaker 7 (02:33:02):
As as a kid.
Speaker 19 (02:33:04):
It was a guy named Meddleloch living with the Hall
of Glow charters to make them from half court and
never missed.
Speaker 2 (02:33:10):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:33:10):
I've seen him in person many times. He and Curly
Neil and the group. That guy had it. It was
almost like a yeah, a magnet to the basketball. Yeah,
that's been Marcus Haynes. One of the great ball handlers
we've ever seen, right, I mean phenomena, so no doubt
about it. So who do you think is the closest
o GQ before we let you go to winning the
next title and throwing the Cougars in there? Do they
trump the others or is there somebody else closer?
Speaker 19 (02:33:33):
I would say the Cougars because I'm not even worried
about the first two whiles. They'll they're you know, they'll
get to the Sweet sixteen easy.
Speaker 7 (02:33:41):
And uh pretty soon.
Speaker 4 (02:33:43):
Man.
Speaker 19 (02:33:44):
They to me, they'd have to breakthrough too much talent
as too much tradition, and I just feel like Kevin,
you know, he gonna get them through one and why
not this year?
Speaker 2 (02:33:56):
No great appreciate great stuff. Thanks Bud, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (02:34:01):
Yeah, I listen. If there's anybody I tell you, health
is gonna be huge health. And also it comes at
a shot or two a game that if they knock down,
because they will defend you.
Speaker 4 (02:34:11):
I know that.
Speaker 7 (02:34:13):
I think that.
Speaker 1 (02:34:14):
And maybe we've lowered expectations here. We haven't, and I
mean then they haven't. But you know what, the last
couple of times like, oh man, we're there, but they're
just getting better. Yeah they are, and they're playing really
good basketball at.
Speaker 2 (02:34:24):
The right time.
