Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
To usc Truth, longtime friend, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewan Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Shawn Salisbury, Brian Lima, Manuel Elmore. Astros play the Mets
today in spring training twelve o five the First Pitch
Rockets host the Milwaukee Bucks seven pm tip off, six
o'clock launch bat right here on seven on your home
for Rockets basketball, and of course we are also your
home for Astros baseball. The Houston Cougars beat Texas Tech
in Lubbock last night. With the win, they clinch at
(00:45):
least a share of another Big twelve title. Sean Triple Lee,
good morning, what's happening to?
Speaker 5 (00:52):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Those Cougars are really really freaking good man.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Yeah, big win on goodness, really good. That was against
a good basketball team. Both of them are got a
chance to make some headway in this tournament. I thought
it was a huge win. So yeah, they're playing great basketball.
And I still contend that they're different. You know, they
want on the road and beat the tenth ranked team.
I know they're fourth, so they're sitting on a one seat.
If this keeps up, more than likely, and they're different
(01:19):
because they they shoot the basketball a little more, a
little longer, a little more consistent. So I think this
is a everybody in the country takes notice because they're
the way they played defense and how aggressive they are.
But if you knock down shots in a tournament, they
got a chance to roll through it. Hell, they may
have a better chance issue than they've had it any
other time, because I don't I know, Auburn's really good,
(01:42):
and there's some good team deep conference, but I don't
look at anybody that's not beatable. I mean they can.
Then we have the big boys. They can knock each
other off, and it's a you want to talk about
battle test, and sometimes when you're battle test and when
the tournament starts, your your legs are weary. And that's
a see the way they play. Big Twelve's got some
of that in him as well, and Houston's at the
(02:05):
top of that list. Houston.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
So far this season, they went into Lawrence and beat
number twelve Kansas, They went into Tucson and beat a
number thirteen Arizona, and they just got done taking down
the number nine Lubbock or in Lubbock taking down number
nine Texas.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Tech thirteen ten. So I don't know, excuse me.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
A ten thirteen straight conference road wins, thirteen in.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
A good basketball conference too, that's a big one man,
going on the road and doing that. It's not only
a big one for the win loss column and where
you're seated, but also confidence to know that no matter what,
because well, you're playing on the road the whole tournament.
I mean you really are. I know some won't be
a home game most of the time for the opposing team,
(02:51):
but you're on the road. So to be able to
do that and somebody else's arena, And like I said,
Texas Tech's a hell of a basketball team, so that's
a huge win for them.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Milos Yuzann twenty two points last night he transferred in
from Oklahoma. Emmanuel Sharp had ten, Jwan Roberts sixteen, Tugler eight,
and then LJ. Cryer, who is usually the leading scorer
for this team only five points. That's what this team
can do.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
Man.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
When Yuzan, he's kind of coming into his own. I
think early in the season he was only averaging around
ten points. Now over the last month and a half,
he's averaged almost eighteen points a game.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
You got him and LJ.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
Cryer leading the way and you stay healthy, and then
of course you still got Juan Roberts and then guys
like Javier Francis, Terrence Arsono, Malik Wilson coming off the bench.
There's depth there. The health is good so far. The defense,
we know, the defense like it's gonna be there every
single season. They are freaking good.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Man.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
Yeah, you gotta have to me a handful of things
to win it or less to win a championship. You
got to be coaching matters in college basketball as much
as any sport. They got it. You got to play
defense and defend the test shots. They got that, and
they'll go to the glass on both ends. But you
have to have the two things that really matter is
(04:09):
when you're in a long stretch of a season, you
have got to have a team that can win when
your superstar is not playing his best. You got to
have other guys that can compliment. You win five points
for LJ. Cryer on the road against the tenth ranked
team and you still win. That's one, and you didn't
need that in the tournament. And last, but surely surely
not least, you better have great guard play. I'm just
(04:32):
telling you the team that wins this national championship this
year is not going to be the team. Oh he
had one. The guards were average, but the big man
was really good. I've seen that movie. That movie doesn't
usually happen old school, it did. You had cream up
dul Jabar or Luel Center with UCLA even though they
had great guard play too, you could win it, Bill Walton,
that group. But you guard play is it's college basketball,
(04:54):
and for the most part is a guard game and
guys that can control the tempo of the game. And
if you've got really good guard play, and they have both,
I mean you've got to have front court and rebound
and do all that, but you better have guard play.
And they have that too, so and they've had that
for a lot of the years of Kelvin Sampson's run.
And health is always something you want. And whenever I
(05:15):
think about health, it's usually I don't usually think basketball.
I expect guys to be healthy and stuff. I know
they've had some unfortunate circumstances in the past, but Jamal
s got hurt. We're usually talking you know, NFL or
hockey or something when or a pitching staff. But when
it comes to this, I mean, I'm assuming that they're
not going to have those same Wow, I can't believe
that happened again to Houston guard play and they got it.
(05:38):
And this is a team that's really damn good. And
to be able to go on the road and win
last night when your best scorer for the most part
isn't it doesn't hit double digits, that's the way you're
supposed to be able to win. They can mutt it man,
which I.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Like, what was the other guard you had, Jamal Shed
got hurt at one point last year and then the
year their other big time guard got hurt.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Yeah it was. And they're great leader.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Yeah, Oh my goodness, I cannot believe.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
You're stuck on Shed and LJ. Cryer Man. But they've
always had it but couldn't close it. I think this
team's different. So I think it's safe to say that
the rest of the country has already taken notice about
how good they can be.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
I gotta find that because it's gonna bother the hell
out of me. Quentin Grimes was back in twenty twenty one,
twenty two. He was really good obviously playing in the NBA.
Now it was Jamal Shedd and then I can see
his face.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
I'm gonna find it.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
But yeah, they've always had good guard play. The big
man Juan Roberts. We know he's been around for what
five years now.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
He keeps elevating his game too. It's good. He's he's
he can he can take over a game as well.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
God, what is that guy's name? Man, let's see. Oh well,
I'll find it during the during the break. But those
two back to back years, you had the top guards
go down for you. Of h that was always the
(07:14):
uh Marcus Sassar. There we go, Marcus Sassar. And they're
a big time team leader too. Sixty nine sixty one
was that final last night up in Lubbock, and man,
that crowd was raucus to They were here's something did
you watch?
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Oh yeah, they were into it, man. But that's that's
what you come to expect to listen four and ten
on a Monday night for Big Monday number four, number ten.
Pretty good matchup. If I'd have gone to school there,
i'd been there last night as well. Great two teams
that I don't expect Texas Tech to be eliminated early
in the tournament either. So I expect these two teams
(07:54):
to to have opportunities to run deep into the tournament.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
Were ways away from there, but it's coming fast than
you think. Michigan was also an action last night. Their
number fifteen lan they survived Nebraska.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
I was watching that game. That was Ah, that's about
his lowest. I can't remember the number, but it's about
as low scoring game as Michigan's won in a long time.
I can't remember the last time Michigan seventeen years. Oh well,
there you go. Michigan scored less than fifty and won
a game forty nine forty six. You see in the
Wisconsin you know, keeping scores low over the years with
(08:27):
coach Bennett when they play low scoring basketball, bang at
the glass and play defense. You know the Kaminski yeers
that they played defense and they can score. But when
I said Wisconsin, I'm talking about the Big Ten. But
Michigan and Nebraska another grinding team that'll go and give you,
you know, scratch it out. And Nebraska kept it close
the whole time. But Michigan found a way. And that's
(08:48):
another good team. If you don't you know, scoring in
the forties and still winning. It's a it was a
that's a although it didn't look pretty, but that's kind
of Big Ten basketball. But you know when the Bennett
when Bennett was coaching Wisconsin and they do it Virginia
and his son, those low scoring games where you can
win games in the past. Wisconsin was able to do it.
(09:08):
Virginia did that with coach Bennett. Ironically both father son.
That's how they won a lot of basketball games. And
you saw Michigan get into that fray last night and
take care of it, man, which is a lot of
these teams were getting forty points at halftime. So to
score forty nine and win or just under fifty was
I won't say impressed it, but it's impressive to be
able to win an ugly game like that. I like
(09:31):
teams that can win ugly. They don't have to score
in the seventies or eighties to win.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
You look at these updating rankings in college basketball. Michigan State.
We talked about Tom Izzo last week and him being
the head coach for that team.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Another guy that they the Big Ten Bangs. Man.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
They jumped up six spots and are now number eight
twenty two and five, Saint John's jumping up into the
top ten.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
They're number seven. Now Patino's got them rolled over. Yeah, man,
you go bag Well, you just name teams. Houston, Saint John's,
Michigan State. All three have in common, uh, a really
good head coach with a lot of experience in these
(10:11):
type of moments. And as I told you, in Michigan
State will hang around early, they'll get beat a couple
of times in the beginning of the season, people start
to kind of discount them other than the people have
to play against them, because they'll they'll bring a bloodbath
to you. Man, they will pound you and beat you up.
And then around February starting I wonder how Michigan State.
And then later in February you're like, oh, okay, and
(10:33):
they get to the tournament, You're like, yeah, Tom Islo's
got his team. I'll see in the elite eighth. They
they've they've got that and they are put it this way,
They're rarely going to beat themselves. And that's a Tom
is the team. This is this is you could have
you can call this bet on this every year that
this is going to happen, that they just make this
Oh yeah, there's Michigan State again. They'll have ranked, they'll
(10:56):
be ranked, and then they'll fall off a couple of
games and they'll lose a game on a ship, on
a holiday game, and like in December, and then next
thing you know, you're gonna wake up and Michigan is
going to be a top ten and like a three
seed going in or a two seed in the tournament.
In dangerous to sell when it is those teams.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Man, when you look at these top teams, Auburn, Duke, Florida, Houston, Tennessee, Alabama,
I'll leave it, they're the top six. How do you
look at those six and say Houston's not a number
one seed going into this tournament.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Oh, I don't think you do. I don't think you do.
And I think their ability to shoot is going to
run well with the you know, the committee and the
voting and where they seed them. They go take care
of the business. Win the big win, this Big twelve.
They will be one seed. If they don't lose again,
they're going to be one seed. So I can tell
you now you get to a point where you know
they're taken in, but all they got to do is
where they are now. If they're in the top four,
(11:45):
which they'll be, and then run through it. They'll come
seeding time, there'll be a one seed. But yes, now listen,
a one seed or a two seed, they're gonna be
able to want you want to be able to be
in the right region and have that opportun But listen,
Kelvin Sampson's well he one to one seed. Do you
think he's gonna approach his thing any different.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
No?
Speaker 5 (12:06):
If they're a two seed, no, And it looks good
and you get you get a good draw and you
get to play sixteen seed and all those things that
go with it. But yeah, you name six teams that
are all number one capable to win a national championship
and number two capable of beating on each other. So yeah,
I don't. We said early in the week when all
(12:27):
was said and done, Houston had a chance. So you
go take care of your own business, and a one
seed will be theirs. They've got.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Next game is they host Cincinnati, then they host Kansas,
and then they end the season in Waco against Baylor.
So three conference games left, and obviously they go into
the Big Twelve tournament. But man, these Cougars were a
big Another big road win last night for the what
third what I say earlier, thirteenth straight conference road win
taking down number ten Texas Tech in Lubbock on a
(12:59):
Monday night. What a game last night for Kevin Sampson
in the Cougars. Let's get a break right here on
Sports Talk seven eighty.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Buckle up, The Shawn Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
It's gonna be a hell.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
I'll tell you what fellas. This is probably the most
boring time in sports. Ye good god, this wrong?
Speaker 7 (13:23):
Man.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
I mean the game last night was great, but damn yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
But you know what still got we still got to
show up and make it not boring, you know what
I mean. It may not be a lot to talk
about in college hoops and keep talking about what's going
to happen in outfield here, but you've gotta gotta keep
grinding on it. Man. Oh, I know everybody and everybody's
got to do it. But so viewing pleasure? Why I'm
(13:47):
sports out? Are you? Oh? Yeah, I don't mind the Well,
we got forty seven things to talk about. Turn on
your TV. Those guys are still talking about. Uh is
Jalen Hurts a good quarterback? They're there. There's there's stuff
they're talking about that you know what they scramble around.
It's baseball season, and you watch these national shows on TV,
and you guys know the ones I'm talking about. You
(14:09):
won't see a baseball comment crazy, I mean hockey. They'll
mix in once in a while. Football is everything. They'll
be spring training. Go on, a guy go out there
and and uh sign a four hundred million dollars deal,
unless he's in one of the big one of their
these favorite cities. They'll they'll talk about what happened? Is
Aaron Rodgers still going to start in the NFL?
Speaker 6 (14:33):
You know?
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Yeah, you can let football rest for a minute. I
know it's the off season never rests, but uh, there's
plenty even though it's not as exciting a thrilling watches,
there's still plenty to talk about.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
And they'll be radio stations and TV stations across the country.
It'll make the excuse, well, this is our time. I
want to you know you you want to know when
it's do a radio station or television station suck ass
start doing Mount Rushmore lists. Oh god, they'll start putting
up lists and who's the best I've seen him? Who's
the top ten of all time and who's because you
know what that is, that's lady coward, lazy cowardice radio,
(15:04):
weak ass television, and they just fall into the simple
trap of well, we got a month and a half,
we can just kind of, you know, dick around all
we want and everything will be fine, no big deal. Yeah,
everybody else is doing it. That's a loser's lamit and
you'll see it on TV all the time. Turn on TV.
They'll lead with Aaron Rodgers. Ye, nothing's happened. We don't
(15:24):
know where he's going. But you know why, Well, where
does he rank? You're gonna hear that. Where does this
guy rank? Where does Lebron rank in the all time
rob This is list time for all these lazy television
and radio stations and hosts across the country that don't
do their bitch ass job because they don't think they
have to because well it's not sports. Well you know what,
I got a great idea for ESPN and their shows
(15:46):
or some of these shows. How about watch some baseball
so you can learn it and actually earn your friggin
year long paycheck. It's football, doesn't When football stops, TV
and radio don't end and unfortunately a lot of them
think that it does. All that said, well, then you
know what, shut down your whole organization for six months
or three months if you can't handle talking about what's
(16:06):
going on on of the teams. Especially you've got a
luxury and national radio on TV. You don't have to
just focus on one team in each sport in your
own city. You get to talk about them all. And
for me to turn on the TV, honest to god
and steal oh, where does Shadur Sanders rank with Andrew Luck?
Stop it, just frigging stop it so it's unwatchable. And
(16:30):
we don't fall into that trap because we got a
team here to talk about. But the laziest turn on you.
Oh man, Okay, let's do our Mount Rushmore of college
basketball centers. Every now we all get caught up into it.
But I'd rather hear your Mount Rushmore in the middle
of a busy sports time. Then when, oh great, if
that's the case, take a six week vacation, take your
(16:51):
bitch ass out. If you're not going to give us
good national television and radio, but listen across the country.
You'll see them. They buy into the trap. There's plenty
going on to me. What it is is that people
don't have enough knowledge in other sports other than their
specialty to be able to talk frequently, passionately, and intelligently
about other stuff. And if that's the case, those radio
(17:12):
shows local and national should replace their host with somebody else.
And if I got to turn on my TV and
we're still talking about what happened in September last year
in football season, and I can't get a baseball update
of what's going on in hockey or college basketball, then
shame on those clowns. And if I was a listener,
and the second somebody puts a mount rushmore list together
(17:32):
in February and early March, turn your radio or television
off and go find and go thumb your nuts and
put in and give yourself an enema, because it's not
worth listening to these clowns who won't prepare the way
that they're supposed to, who are getting paid. Can you imagine, Well,
it's a boring time in the housing industry, So I
won't think I'll make any calls or I'm not going
to go put a roof on her. I'm not going
(17:53):
to build a house because it's a little slow. You'll
understand you family that want to move into the house
in three months, it's going to take six because slow
time for us. Yeah, it's called loser's littlemit built an excuse,
And that's why hosts and analysts and stuff keep switching
jobs across the country because they are one trick ponies.
If I can't talk about this, my show sucks. And
(18:16):
it's not the laughs and jokes you weave them in.
But there's nothing. There's nothing that chaps my ass more
than lazy ass people when it comes to their job
that well out, we were not talking about the Philadelphia Eagles,
So what else is there to talk about. We're not
talking about the Houston text And if you're somebody in
this town who can't talk about something other than or
if you're in Dallas or Pittsburgh or Miami or San
(18:37):
Francisco and you can't talk about all those sports and
you're getting paid to do a year round show, then
I suggest you take two weeks off and find something
else to do that doesn't bore you. In June, your
paycheck's the same. Yeah, I'm with you. Many start throwing
lists and Mount Rushmore and he turn your TV off.
That simply tells you that the people are not talented
(18:59):
or smart enough to do their job the way they're
supposed to do.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
Nine headlines on ESPN dot com not one baseball headline.
There's one college basketball. Everything else is either NFL or.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
An ESPN simple, it's a right now, it's a debate
scream and when it comes to and Football Network, that's
all it is. I mean, even when you're paying a
host ten million dollars, shouldn't they be able to talk
about all sports all sports? Yeah, that's what I thought. Otherwise,
just pay them to pay, just say, well, we'll pay
(19:34):
during the season. But I can't pay it. I can't
pay it eighteen million bucks to talk about one sport
on a studio show where every swing and Richard on
the planet canfuse something something. So yeah, one trick ponies
don't do it for me. And that's why I'll outlast
all of them. I'll be here till I'm one hundred
and two because you ain't getting a one trick pony
for me. If you can't talk basketball, why are you
(19:56):
hosting a show? If you get it doesn't mean it
has to be your perfect strength and you can't be
wrong or not know it all. Got plenty of fans
that'll make sure that they can help us if we
don't because they watch it. But you owe it to
your listening audience, in our viewing audience, if you're doing TV,
to at least give me something other than the lists
and who's the top ten receivers right now in the league.
(20:18):
The second they start that at this time of year,
it tells you they don't care about Oh they're college
basketball network, but they'll still not give how many how
often you think they're going to talk college hoops on
these debate shows this morning? A little bit, A little bit, Yeah,
it is a little bit, but I guarantee you they're
gonna lead with a bunch of football talk. Yeah. So
at this time, I'm burned out by sports, but you
(20:38):
know what, still got to show up and we still
got to do it. It doesn't mean we're not talking
about You can be burned out and still bring good,
compelling arguments. It's a I'm turning the TV on and
you're gonna lead with is Aaron Rodger? I understand you
start to talk draft now, and you're gonna get forty
seven mel kiper lists and draft mock drafts. I get it.
That's another one, the mock draft in January where you
(21:00):
get eight of them. We're talking, mind, it's going to
change forty eight times. And you care more about a
mock draft on that TV network than you do baseball
season that's starting in a few weeks. It's baffling to me, man,
baffling to me. It's just a loser's lament and lazy.
And you'll find more of that than you will somebody
who does their homework on sports and studium. You don't
(21:21):
have to be an expert on all of them, but
you better know something on all of them. And if not,
open up a dog on a computer, a book and
read not that hard. If you can't do that, then
I suggest you're in the wrong business. Go coach somebody,
or go go go do something else. Go, you know,
bang nails on a roof, Go work for the city,
Go do something a lot tougher than what we do.
Oh man, who's the top five right handed black pitchers
(21:45):
of all time? Who's the top five white hand left
can't throw it ninety miles an hour white relievers of
all time? There you go, who's the best, who's the
best base stealing first to third guy since nineteen twenty seven.
When you start hearing those lists, the number one thing
you should say to yourself is these dudes don't know
or ladies don't know a damn thing they're talking about
(22:07):
outside of their specific football sport. It always baffles me.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Man, seven two one two five, seven ninety is the
number to join. We'll get out to the phone lines.
The astros are the talk stalling with Aeronauto or not.
These riders in this city, man conflicting reports all over them.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
And I think that real quick. I think that the
Aeronauto stuff is so insignificant to the World Series run
I do. I mean, he was a great player, he
still may be a good player, But I'm not sitting
on the edge of my seat if we if you
get him here, great would But I need to know
what you gave up for him. Yeah, that's exactly right.
(22:49):
In two is as much as I love and respect
the guy, hell he's phenomenal. Uh, my team's I'm going
on as if Aeronaut is not even going to show
he not playing here. Yeah, if if Nolan Aeronato is
the key to a World Series right now, at this stage,
this late in the off season, before spring training or
during spring training. Then guess what I can tell you this.
(23:11):
You can put your head between your legs and kiss
your ass goodbye if you think you're winning a World
Series and that's what it's hinging on. Yeah, no, I
got yeah, yeah, get put a list together that'll help,
and you're mount rushmore of guys that weren't gonna affect
the World Series run. Next.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
We'll discuss it next the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (23:34):
Continue what's up? Mike?
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Hey, what's coing on?
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Guys?
Speaker 7 (23:41):
You know you were talking about stuff to talk about
kind of in this time, Dude. I've been meaning to
call you guys for I don't know a couple of
months now. A few months back y'all mentioned something that
drives y'all nuts, and Brian, I think it was you
who brought it up, and I never noticed it until
you said something. But man, every time I go out
anywhere now these kids are calling me boss at the
(24:04):
at the register and it is driving me nuts. But
you never it never bothered me before until you said something.
Speaker 9 (24:11):
You guys.
Speaker 7 (24:12):
You guys have put the proverbial song in my head
them calling you boss or bruh. I've had a knocked
out off the softball teams that I play. I got
on the girls real quick. I was like, we're not
doing that. You're not calling any adult that. But I
just want to help back in and justify what you
guys said and then also join you in the line
of just getting driven DUTs by this stuff.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
So that's all I got.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
Yeah, I still and I don't care if it's if
it's old school. Uh what's the word? I am looking
for old school old head boomer. Yeah that too, because
I I don't think like that. But I can tell
you this a kid sitting behind at a grocery store.
I get it all the time. Yeah, I'm talking about
(24:56):
six Hey, thanks, boss, I got I got it yesterday
at Hbanks. Dude, it's going to be it for you boss.
You know, I say right back to and I know
they say they say, I don't make a big I
look right back up. Said, I'm not your boss, yeah,
or pal, I'm not your power, I'm not chief. No,
I'm not any of those. Yeah, Okay, I I you call.
I'd rather have you cuss at me than say to me.
(25:19):
And I know that certain I got a good buddy
that calls me that I've known him forever, that still
says it. He's a grown adult, uses a phrase pal
and I I I want to ninety nine point nine
percent things I love about it. When I hear that,
and he says it all the time, I want to
punch him right in his throat. He's about to get
(25:39):
it and he's about and I go on a show
with him every week, you pal, and it's like when
I give her, I get a text, it ends with pale.
And I know it's just part of his routine. Yeah,
but it is to me, it is. It's it's a
condescending I'm just telling you this, and parents give back.
If your kid's calling you an adult boss or pal,
well you're not gonna like the ending with me. And
(26:01):
I don't care if it's my best friend's kid or
if it's a girl horrible, I don't care. But if
that's going on, I know it sounds so elementary to me.
It's such a disrespectful. You might as well say, hey,
what's up, prick? Yeah, exactly what's up? You ask? You
might as well just say that to me, because I
will in front of their parents. I will dress them
(26:23):
down and I don't care who it is. It's just
my lingo. Well you know what your lingo doesn't sit
well with me? Well, you know it's it's it's it's
society now, that's what the kids are saying. Screw those kids.
And if you're an adult saying it, you're dumbred than
they are. So yeah, he's exactly right.
Speaker 10 (26:40):
Man.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
You got me on fire. A lot of things pissing
me off this morning. Man, I can't wait till somebody
comes in here and says something stupid again. God, please
please let that happen today. Please, wherever I go, call
me boss, call me pale, tell me to go sit
for ten minutes with somebody. Do all that to me
today so I can unload an empty the wrath for
(27:00):
four friggin hours today. N I thought you're gonna do it.
Give me that chance today. I'll get into these about
twice a year where you're looking for a fight, right,
Please give me one, give me a reason, give me
a read. Call me pal, and you will get hung
up on. Even if you're my friend and you call
in her joking, your ass will get hung up on.
(27:21):
And I'll beg you to come down here and I'll
give you my address. Okay, that's how fired up I
am today. Literally got called pal yesterday at HB man
checking out. He is that gonna be all for you? Boss?
What yeah? Come on guy, Yeah yeah yeah. Tell your
mom to remove the betterfly tattoo from the back of
her two because you're my kid. How about I say that? Okay?
(27:42):
How how will he take that for disrespect? How's that
for condescending? Yeah, hey, boss, that's exactly right. Tell mama
I'll call her in a little while. Man, because you're
my kid. Make sure you're home for dinner on time,
you clown. Yeah, there you go. What did Andy just say?
Triple like?
Speaker 11 (27:56):
I said, Now you guys know how you feel about like,
you know, fruity beer, like yes, that that's what like Yes,
the segment we had yesterday with him, he said, now
you guys.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Know frues fruit doesn't belong in a beer. There's no
question seltzer maybe beer.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
No, you know, don't be mad at us any because
you like a good white wine spritzer. Man, you're Fine's
talk to Roger. What's that Roger? Don't say any Pal,
chief just not telling you.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Go ahead your hair waves will Please don't do that.
Speaker 12 (28:28):
No, ill compare that that acknowledgement the pal I got
that the other day. I'm fifty two, I get it,
you know whatever. Some kid at Chevron I was you know,
I went on the phone.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
But then I heard him at the end that could
be that could be both.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
Man.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
I was like, hold on, baby, talk about what I like?
Speaker 9 (28:47):
Who that could be?
Speaker 10 (28:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Man?
Speaker 12 (28:50):
Anyway, no, yeah, goes in and I was like, man,
I was thinking of is that like the Edgar haircut
of rebel acknowledgments?
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Did you ever call you that?
Speaker 12 (28:58):
Did you say the Edgar hair Yeah, of a verbal
acknowledgement that.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
So you know, you know about your Oh my god,
that is so damn funny. That is I gotta give
it to you, Roger. That's pretty spot on.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
Man.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
That's a great that's a great.
Speaker 12 (29:17):
Yeah, because you know you kids today, man, I mean, yeah,
we are bad here because hey, the.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
Beatles invented that craft.
Speaker 12 (29:23):
But what I'm saying is, but what I'm saying is,
you know, what what's old is what's new.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
It comes back around.
Speaker 12 (29:29):
But yeah, all these kids and then and then with
these little terms like oh man, he's gas lighting you.
You mean he's antagonizing me. You mean he's you know, yeah, is.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
That what he's heard?
Speaker 12 (29:40):
I mean, can you just let the word be the
word and not making a word for word.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
It's already invented.
Speaker 12 (29:45):
Just let it go, man, Just stop stoping reinventing the wheel.
Same thing with his astros light up like you got
like fifty utility guys. Now, are you trying to be
like the like basketball? You've got a bunch of sweets now,
and it's a big guy. You got big man, you
don't have a real center.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
Is that what we're trying to do now? I don't know.
Speaker 12 (30:01):
I just hope it works all I care about. But yeah, man,
I was just talking about the madness. Man, I'm ready
for the madness.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
It's coming.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (30:08):
Goobs are looking great. I really don't want them to
be the number one of the cut. Whenever they're top three,
it never seems to work out, and they can hang
around four or five. I'm great with that because I
feel like, you know that they might just uh, you know,
keep out of the rim of invincibility where somebody where
they can just knock off, you know, a top seed
(30:29):
here here and there, and then you know, on the
way to that bracket. And and make it to that
championship final finally. But yeah, that's it, man, That's all
I had to say. Man, I hate that.
Speaker 6 (30:38):
I hate those references.
Speaker 12 (30:39):
Man, It just it pisses me off. Yeah, and you're
you're absolutely right with that stuff.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Appreciate with Fellas says Roger.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
He said that your haircut, that's very funny. It's literally
just like it's it's almost like a bowl cut. Basically,
you've got a bowl of soup with that haircut. It's
a damn bowl cut. Man.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Oh man, you know I rocked a bowl cut till
like seventh grade for real. Oh yeah, I got them. Yeah,
I'm just playing y m C a bowl YMCA basketball
with a bowl cut straight up.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
And yeah had bangs. Oh yeah that's hot for a guy. Yeah.
I just I just don't like I want to.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
I wish my parents were still around that I could
ask him, like, what the hell were y'all thinking?
Speaker 5 (31:27):
Yes, it was a two bit of haircut.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
I would go to Rudy's barbershop back in the day,
right outside of Timberlane.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
That's where I went. Man.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Literally, it was that you know, you want you want
me to get Brian the regular? Yeah, put the bowl
on his head. Let's get it done.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
I don't. I don't think I went to get my
first haircut outside my home until I went to college.
My mom cut my hair. My mom was a hair
dresser as well. Growing up, my mom cut my hair fright.
I never sat down in a barber chair really outside
of my home till I was in college.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
I would have rather had that than what the hell
they put me through. Yeah, yeah, man, I got called
I had big coke bottle glasses. They called me Harry
Potter growing up.
Speaker 5 (32:05):
Yeah I was. Yeah, I never had bowl cuts due.
I could never I rocket though, and getting haircuts was
not a normouth. I just let it girl, one length like,
I got about fifteen catlocks in my hair, kind of
waves and curls and got ladies play pay a lot
of money to have when my hair grows out. What
they have, what they go and pay for. So you
(32:25):
could have it because I just you know, you get
out of the shower and you just shake it. Yeah
that was it. Yeah, I guess that was the cool
thing to do to come to school without your hair combed. Right,
just let it flow and let it go. And I
think we're back. I see a lot of kids with
the same have you kids these days? Dude, It's just
it's I know what you mean, Paule, Thanks to you.
I appreciate that, man. Thanks Pods. Yeah you It's yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
Like when I when I went on like my first
road trip with one of my travel teams and the
kids go to dinner and they don't have a hat on.
It's like, what that's your hairstyle, right, coaches the style?
What do you mean you don't have a sign? You
didn't even did you comb it? Did you brush it?
Not on a we air dry it.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
Okay, Yeah, that's another one, bet bet Yeah, cool man.
They they uh, but I'll give credit for this when
kids do come and take their hat off at the
dinner table in a restaurant or don't show up with one. Amen.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Oh I forced them to take your hat off, and
you give me your cell phone?
Speaker 6 (33:24):
I do.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
Yeah. We had our to this day. Man. Coach Tom Moore,
even when we were in Minnesota, he had a big
problem with he if you you had your hat on
in the when we were eating dinner at at the
training table, it was not it was not okay, yeah,
my grown ass men. Right, You sometimes forget you spent
(33:44):
on your head, all right, Yeah, we were sending he hit
my guys, you can come and take hat off. And
I never saw Tom with a hat in an indoor building. Never. Wow.
I don't know if he wears a hat like when
he's up, but walking down the hallways, Tom was without
a hat and he never wore one in the other
(34:05):
And I learned a valuable lesson going to a restaurant.
I usually take it off now, if you're in a
drive throughs, I get it. But sitting down sometimes you forget.
But I try to. I still live by that. Yeah,
I mean your parents take it to you, and he
kind of start to take it for granted. Yeah, I
think it's uh, it's pretty important. That's uh, that's impressive, buddy,
no problem, boss man.
Speaker 11 (34:24):
Hey, no, that's the other word, Braddy. But buddy.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
But but to me is like uh that I call
a lot of people that. Yeah, And now I'm not
going to go up to the you know, somebody who's
in a hey you know doctor, Hey thanks brother, Yeah, no, no,
no thanks doctor. I mean right, but if it's a
but for me, that's an affectionate your family to me,
(34:50):
you know. And but but I can understand how somebody,
if you don't know him, you say. It's like if
you say something an answer, like you say something on
Twitter and so so he said, you go, I got you, Bud.
But there's it's the reference if some guy comes out
there and just spewing stupidity and say, yeah, I feel you, Bud.
That's done in a condescending you know, what you're saying
means nothing to me. Is as opposed to man, I
(35:11):
hope you had a great day and a great birthday.
Bud is calling someone brother? Is that a basic white
guy term? Kind of? I think no, I think it's
a I think it's a guy's term all the way around.
I rather you say brother than call me bro. Yeah,
you know, like, hey, what's up Bro? You call me brother?
I feel like we got we break bread together, right,
That's how I feel. Bro means you're just feeling words
(35:34):
because you ain't got enough to talk about. Brother means
we're tight. Yeah, that's how I feel about that.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
But yeah, Bud for me brother, Yeah, definitely, pal, buddy,
boss man, boss man, boss chief, pods, pods. That's a
good golf Yeah, I take that as an affectionate golf term.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
I learned that.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
It's when I was working at Lochinvar way way back
in the day. First my boss just say iPods.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Thanks. I'm like, huh, what the hell is that? Yeah,
explain okay that I can handle more than the rest
of them. That's a that's a that's a golf term
that I find. You know, you say, okay, I got
my partner. What's up hoots? Yeah, yeah, don't say it much,
but I get it. Thanks, buddy, appreciate that, No problem, Poul.
Speaker 4 (36:18):
You know what's funny, it's because like the guys in
the Northeast, they use Powell left and right, especially guys
in Boston. I watch like, there's a little series that
these two comedians do in Boston and they call each
they call everybody Poal, what do you?
Speaker 5 (36:32):
What do you want today?
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Pal?
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Can I get the Uh? They work at a grinder shop,
not grinder like the app that you like. I'm talking
about grinder like the you know, sub shop. Yeah, that's
they call those grinders are sub sandwiches. What's a grinder app?
Is the sex app or something? But I mean it's
a dating app. But you just go there to bang.
Is that what that is?
Speaker 5 (36:54):
Or what is it.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
No, I mean that's all the apps, but the grinders.
It's a it's a gay app. It's menking for men.
Oh perfect. I just I just call it something different.
That's awesome.
Speaker 5 (37:05):
A Saturday, Yeah, I just call it. I I just
call it, oh, every day like a hello. There you go,
My bad dude? That I was. I was thinking sub different.
You mean the one you mean the one that I've
got earmarked? Yeah? That one? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (37:20):
My favorite? Oh my gosh, seven one three. While you're
at it, let's go to break. Let's talk about that
Aeronauto Trade.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
Next you're back.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
Get back at It.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
You listen to Sean Salisbury Show, Sean Brown and Triple E.
I had a couple of comments come in backs on Twitter.
Is that like calling the person you are with babe
so you don't call them the wrong name?
Speaker 5 (37:48):
That's fun. Yeah, that's fun. Well, let's hope that it's
not somebody's been dating for a long time and you
call it you have to call a babe because you
still don't know their name. If you if you're talking
about uh, maybe a zoid and overnight just like it
has a dip in their mouth of Copenhagen. You probably
you probably call them late for dinner. Yeah, that's what
(38:11):
you call her. Yeah, instead of big got she got
a lipper. H m hmm. Still want thinking about that
story yesterday, Crazy Copenhagen. It blew me away, man.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
I mean, at least you know, maybe you know, I
give her the benefit of the doubt. She's knocking down
a heater, you know, but.
Speaker 5 (38:30):
Yeah, wouldn't have been shocking, it seems to. I mean,
I don't like them and know they reached for a grit.
It tells me it was a good conversation, right, she
reached for a dip of Copenhagen, a big one too.
It's like, really, what did I miss here? I was
blown away. I was like, I surrender you win.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
I got to go our guy Bill down in a
Seabrooks said boss Pal chief Buddy, the mount Rushmore of
condescending names one. Yeah, that's pretty good man. Yeap, oh man,
that is uh, that's good stuff all right? With this
Nolan Aeronado stuff. Over the weekend, Brian McTaggart says that
(39:10):
they've rekindled talks, meaning the Astros and Cardinals. Just a
day or so later, some media outlets are saying these
talks of stall, they really didn't even get back going again, Well,
which is it?
Speaker 5 (39:22):
Are they talking or are they not?
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Then I heard some stuff yesterday afternoon that actually the
talks are continuing on. You won't hear the last of it.
But then you see another report. I think Channer Rome
put out an article with the said Louis Cardinals beat
writer that basically this this there's really not much going on,
so what is it? Man?
Speaker 5 (39:42):
Like? I saws on a bunch of with this. I
also saw that one company says the Philadelphia Eagos aren't
going to the White House and another one says they're
absolutely going to the White House, two different ones in
the media. So that goes to show you which one
you're buying. So if somebody on both sides has told
whoever that they're not, they are. So make sure your
(40:05):
sources are reliable. I guess this is the point. Yeah,
And whenever Brian McTaggart says something for Chandler Rome, my miss,
I know they've done their due diligence. So I'm going
to take that as opposed to somebody on Twitter just
piping in and saying that's not true. How's that.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Yeah, Chandler Rome tweeted the Yeah, tweeted it out that
the Cardinals and Astros briefly talked Nolan Aronado deal. The
stance on the no trade is unclear, and he was
reporting that with Katie Wu. She is covering the Cardinals
and Major League Baseball for the Athletics, so she's his
(40:40):
coworker obviously, so they work on that together. I don't know, man.
And then also I saw another you talk about conflicting reports.
I saw from a media outlet yesterday, not a very
credible one, but they are trying to make this article
of the Texans are going to relocate if they don't
get approved for a new stadium. That's where we're out
with that.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
See, there's a good conversation piece in June, Yeah, in July, Yeah,
in January and February, because that would relocate. That'd be
interesting conversation, wouldn't it if it was truly like there
was any legs to it. Yeah, there's no legs to this,
like at all. Like we briefly, we talked about it
(41:21):
a couple times last week and that was it. And
then out of nowhere yesterday, two different of these Twitter accounts.
If you will, Twitter media outlets put out these articles
and then you know you got some local uh Texans
YouTube guys that are like, oh, they're going to relocate. No,
they're not not leaving the city.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
If they're gonna relocate, they're going to go up to
Katie Folscher, the Woodlands, somewhere northwest Bridgeland, somewhere out there
to build a new stadium.
Speaker 5 (41:47):
If that's what they're gonna do. Relocate can be misleading.
You may relocate to another facility in the city or
relocate to another state. Big difference. If you're changing venues
within your own city. Okay, hell that. If you're not
going to upgrade it and build something around the thing,
I'm all in for moving. If if you're not going
(42:07):
to make that that area a appointment reservation to go to,
even when there's not a stadium game going on, then
I'm go ahead and move it, man, go build a
new one. That's fine. Hit my tax dollars ten bucks
of whatever it is for the year, what a hundred bucks.
I'm okay with it. But it's gotta it's it's the venue.
(42:31):
But if if you're not going to give the whole
thing a facelift and including all the places around it,
then it'll remain one of the worst non tailgate facilities
in the in the in football, it really will. There's
nothing to do there, nothing, And so if you want
something outside of just good tailgating, good fans and good
football at times, then you gotta you gotta. That's got
(42:54):
to be a entertainment area right now. It's right now.
It's one of those place you go, how late can
I go to get into the game without missing any
if I'm not tailgating, So I don't hit traffic if
I get there late, because I'm not going there to
to have a beer at the local bar.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
Like if you're a because you know, they host like
big time soccer events there from time to time, Like
if you're coming to watch Mexico versus USA. Let's just say,
are you what do you? What are you doing pregame?
Like do you tailgate a soccer event?
Speaker 5 (43:24):
Oh? I would imagine they go. I would imagine that's
all you can World Cup. They party better than anybody's
you know what, Get on a plane and go to
pub to Ireland if you really, if you want to
see some or South America, they'll they'll celebrate their ass off.
But there. Yeah, No, you're celebrit You're you're you're either tailgating,
which you can create there with people. You're you're not saying, hey,
let's fifteen of us go to a bar. Yeah, there's
(43:47):
because you're gonna get doing. Make sure you were it,
because it's not going to be. That's not gonna be
around there. You're gonna be midtown, downtown, uptown, wherever it
is you go. It isn't going to be there around
that facility is not a appointment showing up early for
unless your tailgating. It's just not it's not conducive to it.
Speaker 4 (44:04):
Hey man, I got second row seats Mexico USA and
a badass friendly over at NRG. Cool man, where do
you want a pregame? Mimia Papatos.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
I'll see and let's let's go the Woodlands, the Woodlands
and then we'll drive down there for an hour. Right, No, yeah,
they that's got to get better.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
Terrible, there's no question seven one, three, seven ninties the
number of joints get into the seven o'clock hour. There
are still some big free agentes available in Major League Baseball.
Why that's next.
Speaker 5 (44:30):
Ab E Houston, a TV HD two.
Speaker 8 (44:33):
Houston and the Rocket produce Sports Talk seven ninety your
home for your home teams, make Houston Sports the number
one presea on your car radio, and then you would
improved iHeartRadio app free.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
Never sounded so good.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Saulsbray, Houston.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
Okay, let's do Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
To usc Truth. Longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Brian.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Lon Lima, go Lobo. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 5 (45:14):
Today.
Speaker 4 (45:14):
They had a rain out yesterday're supposed to play the Marlins.
Rockets hosting the Bucks to night seven pm tip off,
six o'clock launch bat right here on seven on your
Home for It. Rockets basketball and University Houston beats Texas Tech.
They clinch at least the share of the Big twelve title.
Sean Brown and TRIPLEI here with you on the Sean
Salisbury Show. You know, as baseball season inches closer, one
of the big things that we've talked about just with
(45:36):
the Astros are the is the outfield. They've added Ben Gammel,
Jose al Tuvey is going to be an outfielder. Now
you still have a weak ass outfield. There were still
free agents that were available Alex Verdugo was the name
that we talked about a couple weeks ago and then
again last week. So here are some position players that
are still free agents. Alex Verdugo, which I don't understand, uh,
(45:57):
Anthony Rizzo, a little bit up in age, Okay, Iglesias, JD. Martinez,
uh McCann, Peralta, uh Meryfield, Grossman, Carpenter, Carpenter's old, Carpenter's
damn near. I feel like he's you.
Speaker 5 (46:14):
Said, you said wit Mayfield's on that house as well. Yeah,
and J. D. Martinez is still a run producer in
the middle of the order. I mean he can still
he can still hit the ball the other way and
do his thing. Excuse me, I guess it comes down
to what kind of money are you willing to make?
You know, at one point last year, I think we
can go through the lineups. If I'm not mistaken that
(46:37):
there was a time in the Yankee lineup, with that
lineup that Verdugo was hitting in the middle of it.
He was like fourth, Yeah, fourth or fifth or third.
He was sitting in the middle of it. And a
guy has doesn't have a job right now. That's just
it's odd to me. I don't get it. He's not old.
He's a good player. The question is who represents him?
Is that a boys I'm looking up.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
He's twenty eight years old.
Speaker 5 (47:00):
Yeah, he's in the prime of his career. Let's see.
I just maybe he's asking so much or outpriced himself
and now is waiting for uh, waiting for you know,
somebody in spring training to panic and pay him what
he's what he wants. I don't know what. Listen, he
(47:21):
didn't have a great year, but he's still a solid player.
He can give you some versatility in the outfield. You know,
he's got some pop in that bat on the left side.
And I it's weird to me. Agent. That's why I'm saying,
there's got to be a isn't there some kind of
There's got to be a price discrepancy there, right, I
(47:44):
don't know what's going on, and somebody's trying to low
ball him or not getting what he wants and he's
holding out for more. He's not hurt. I don't think
he's not. So I don't know what the hell is
going on with that. It's a bit, it's a bit uh,
it's a it's a bit baffling.
Speaker 4 (47:59):
To me, his numbers this past year with the Yankees
a little, you know, down from the norm for him.
But again he hit three oh eight, two eighty nine,
two eighty two, sixty four to ninety four when he
was with the first or the last year with the Dodgers,
and then the next four years with Boston. Then he
goes to New York and struggles a bit. Okay, he's
(48:21):
still a two seventy five hitter. Yeah, two seventy two
with an ops of almost eight hundreds.
Speaker 5 (48:29):
That's that there's bed belongs on some roster somewhere right
for the right price. Yes, it's a there's always some
baffling things that go on at this time of year
of why are these guys still available? I don't know?
Man and Wit Maryfield? What what have we got going
on him?
Speaker 2 (48:48):
Wit?
Speaker 7 (48:48):
With?
Speaker 5 (48:49):
Why is Wit Maryfield?
Speaker 4 (48:52):
Let me see? How old is Wit Maryfield?
Speaker 5 (48:55):
Seventy four?
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Gotta be like thirty three?
Speaker 5 (48:59):
Uh h, I don't think he's that old? He is?
He really?
Speaker 9 (49:03):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (49:04):
I thought Maryfield was like in his early thirties. Holy yeah,
when the hell did he get thirty six years?
Speaker 3 (49:09):
Alright?
Speaker 5 (49:09):
We woke I could run when he broke in. I'm
like maybe he broke in he was a little older, dude,
because I thought wit Maryfield was about five years younger
than they just listed their six years younger.
Speaker 4 (49:20):
No, he's he's two months older than I am.
Speaker 5 (49:22):
That's weird. What the hell? I felt like wit Mirryfield
had a lot of baseball left in him, didn't you? Yeah,
I do that answer. Let's see, so he hit you
had down here two twenty two. But he's also a
career too, eighty hitter? What do you call him?
Speaker 7 (49:37):
What?
Speaker 5 (49:38):
Yep?
Speaker 4 (49:38):
With an ops of uh, let's see career ops? Why
am I losing my mind? Seven forty one? He could?
He's serviceable still, I.
Speaker 5 (49:49):
Assume there's a lot of there's a lot of guys
that belong on rosters that aren't stars on that list,
they can give you a good depth.
Speaker 4 (49:57):
I'm baffled by this, dudie.
Speaker 5 (49:58):
Okay, would you rather have Rdugo in the outfield or
trade for Aeronauta, No, gimme verdue considering what's going on,
because aeronauts is obviously had a phenomenal right love it,
but without giving something up, and you need outfield help
from the left side and he can play right field.
Give would you rather have him, or would you have
(50:20):
to have to get in the fray of a trade.
I also wonder there's no way they're telling us that
that they go trade for for Nolan Eronado, that Parades,
that they that they don't like him, there's no way, right,
or that you now you are you programmed that you
want to move him to second and that the Colorado
(50:43):
Rockies who gave up their second baseman who's won a
Gold Glove and we have him here, that you really
don't think that he's going to contribute much and you
plan on moving Parades to second base if you can
land you know, if you can land Aeronauta huh. But
on the surface of looking at the roster, it would
(51:03):
feel to me like a free agent outfielder is more
important than trading for a third baseman whose numbers were
a little down yet has been a hell of a
player in the league and who by all accounts everybody
likes him yeah, and is good. Is a good teammate.
Weird to me, it's all weird to be and that's
it in those meeting rooms. So it's hard from a distance,
but my my optics from a distance say, it looks
(51:26):
a little off. Yeah, that's all.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
If you go get Verdugo, put his ass in right field,
put Chas McCormick in center, keep keep host Al tu
Van left, and then let Dubond and Brendan Rodgers battle
it out for playing second base. Rate it's a third
pain at short.
Speaker 5 (51:43):
And Jake Myers because of your defensive replacement. Yes, play
team outfielder, please God please, I know it's not gonna happen,
you know, actually know what? Hell? Throw Ben Gamble in
the mix too, Benji. I love Benji. We loved his energy.
I mean, it's not a big gamble. No, you're not
gambling a lot. You're really not. It's not a it's
(52:04):
not a gammel.
Speaker 4 (52:05):
All right, Yeah, here we go the uh lineup for today.
Speaker 5 (52:09):
You ready? Yep?
Speaker 4 (52:10):
Pomped, aren't you? Astro spring training game today against the
Mets over in West Palm Dubon leading hold on. Let me,
I got I got a better IDEA Astro starting lineup
presented to you by Dyke In taking on the Mets
here in West Palm Beach. Mauricio Dubon playing second base
leading off in the two hold East sok peetis third baseman.
(52:34):
Christian Walker over at first in the three hole. Yiiner
Diaz designated hitting today, Victor Carrattini behind the plate, Ben
Gammel right field and six hitting seven. Chad McCormick playing
left field, in center, Jake Myers and playing shortstop.
Speaker 5 (52:51):
Gille Rome.
Speaker 4 (52:53):
I don't know who that is, Gyme. There you go,
and on the mound on the bomp, right handed pitcher
Renel Blanco.
Speaker 5 (53:04):
That is your starting lineup, presented to you by dieke In. Yeah,
it's your a TV seventh lineup, the seventh stretched call. Yeah,
I love it. O Altuve not in the lineup today.
Blummer looks like they're gonna gi him a couple of
days off. You know, he is the veteran to the
(53:25):
regular season start yet. And we know we just got
started with spring training.
Speaker 4 (53:31):
This is the second this is the second excuse me,
the second or third spring training.
Speaker 5 (53:36):

the things you don't need, but we're gonna tell you

Speaker 4 (53:56):

Speaker 5 (54:07):

Okay, all right, what was this?
Speaker 5 (57:17):
You got your toes painted? Yeah? You painted your toenails?
Speaker 6 (57:22):
No they did? Now place dead.
Speaker 5 (57:25):
You got your.
Speaker 4 (57:27):
Okay orange for the Astros.
Speaker 5 (57:30):
Yeah, good deal, buddy. So you wouldn't go to yourself
a pedicure? I'd like your.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
Style, man, Not sure on the style on the.
Speaker 5 (57:37):
On the nail polish, but I prefer a little buffed clear.
But hey for the shiny look. But yeah, and I'm
not joking, but I I probably didn't do the color.
But you know what the Brandon did. I'm a have
to consider it dull. But hey, listen, good pedicures are
that's a good thing.
Speaker 4 (57:54):
Yeah, I agree. Do you get a pedicure, Brandon? Or
did you just get your your your toes painted painted?
Speaker 5 (58:00):
That's it?
Speaker 6 (58:01):
Yep?
Speaker 5 (58:02):
Okay, all right, that's that's Brando. Man. We'll talk to
you tomorrow. Buddy. You gotta love his style, though, don't you?
Speaker 11 (58:08):
No?
Speaker 5 (58:08):
Whoa you don't like that style? No? Them nails painted?
What is he?
Speaker 4 (58:13):
Caleb Williams?
Speaker 5 (58:14):
No, but forget forget the nails painted. I'm talking about
just the pedicure. He didn't give one though, I know,
but if he should have, he should I agree he's
missing out. Not sure on the pain in your nails,
but uh, Triple G. You paint your nails.
Speaker 4 (58:27):
Never have never neither.
Speaker 5 (58:28):
I've never painted with me neither, but I am. But
I ain't. I ain't scared of a of a good
Uh what you call it? Petticure. Yeah, I'll go petty
manny on their ass. You know what I'm saying. Dog, Yeah,
I know you feel me?
Speaker 6 (58:40):
M m.
Speaker 5 (58:40):
Do you feel me or not?
Speaker 4 (58:41):
I do feel you on the petticure for sure.
Speaker 5 (58:43):
So Brandon call I got him painted, Matt he's reading.
Brando is ready for what I don't know, for the season.
He's got it going on.
Speaker 6 (58:50):
Man.
Speaker 5 (58:50):
You gotta love Brando. Yeah, he didn't even hesitate. You
come here and say here's what I'm doing. Okay, So
you know what he said to the fools. You know
what he said on fools. You better recognize what did
he say? You think he stood on business? I get something.
I just really like Triple G. Man. He's one of
the best producers in the business.
Speaker 4 (59:11):
That is I Triple G.
Speaker 5 (59:14):
Otherwise, Yeah, you got to stand on it, do you
think you can get to where you want if you're
not standing on it. Never, No, huh, you can't. I
mean you're literally got to stand on it, right and
if you don't, then you win. Then you got no business,
all right? Brandon went got a petty, man, Well we'll
say it was kind of a mock petty or pseudo petty.
(59:37):
Well you're not really getting a petty, but you're getting painted.
So they didn't even massage the calves, I guess notis
the calves dig in there? Use that? What do we
call it? We like it? Yeah? Man? Yeah? Man. Do
you get petticures? I haven't in a very very long time.
But you're not opposed to hell right now? Do you
get petticures at all?
Speaker 4 (59:58):
Triple e to pose to them, but I've never gotten one.
Speaker 5 (01:00:02):
You I'll do. They're they're phenomenal, man, Yeah, they really are.
And you got to make sure you ain't got no
wolf toes because you know, if you're asking, if you
if you if you're dating somebody, or you got your
wife or your girlfriend, and you want their nails to
be clean and fresh, and their feet where they don't
smell like uh you know, like uh, you know that
(01:00:23):
that nasty. You know that the bad sock smell or something.
They get their some guy with wolf toes where they
scrape when you walk across the wood floors. Not a
good look. But at times I wonder why guys thinking
that they have to expect it from their lady to
look good. But you you're you're funky. You know, long
nails with their Now I understand construction work. I get
all that, and you get stuff on your hands. It's
(01:00:44):
okay to wash them when you get home. I imagine
most do. But okay, you see a guy who's got
wolf toes or got a little toe jam in the corner,
you date her again? No exactly, but why is it okay?
Oh man, you're not a jam.
Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
Have you ever come across a woman in your past
that has had nasty feet?
Speaker 15 (01:01:03):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:01:04):
No, no, But I've heard people be this. Some of
them maybe don't pay attention to hygiene. My point is
that I would think that, you know, women take care
of but why shouldn't we take on the scene. There's
nothing feminine about getting somebody to clean your feet. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:01:17):
I mean one of my ex girlfriends from like years ago,
she wore like a size ten or eleven or twelve?
Speaker 9 (01:01:23):
How do.
Speaker 4 (01:01:28):
I wear size thirteen? Was pushing a size ten women,
I'm going to run five. Man, you come in yeah, yeah,
get in the post. But it's true, shouldn't you. Shouldn't we, as.
Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
A dude, keep our feet in our hands just as
clean as the women do. Yes, if it doesn't mean pain.
I'm just I'm a clean no clean, Yes.
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
There's a cleanliness factor that you have to have as
a man a woman.
Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
You cannot fake the funk on a nasty dunk. You
know what I'm saying. Ayah, I'm just the visual of them. Listen.
I understand guys athletes sometimes who've had their feet beat up.
You know, you're you're you've lost a toe nail.
Speaker 4 (01:02:05):
But if you're an athlete, you take care of them more, right.
Speaker 5 (01:02:07):
Right, Well, I just think that to me, there's one
of the grossest things in the world is seeing somebody
their nails are leaning over the sides. You can hear them.
It's just it's nasty. Dude.
Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
I like, yeah, I three times a week, so quick,
and I file them.
Speaker 5 (01:02:23):
To make sure they don't get hooked and caught on. Yeah,
it's just I don't want it doesn't me paint them.
But yeah, good hygiene. You can't just expect it from
the ladies if you're not going to give it to yourself. Right,
you know what they I don't expect from the ladies
that we have is that it's okay not to grow
on pit here. Okay, yeah exactly. You you could shave that,
that'd be okay with me. Deal breaker. That's a big
(01:02:45):
time deal deal breaker, right a bush. Well sometimes they
have that under their arms too, right talking about let's
see those pictures where they're proud of them. Like, I
understand you let your wild self play out, but that
doesn't mean I got to take a dog on weed
eater to your pit. Okay, that's just that is. So
if you saw that, you out, Yeah, you're done right.
(01:03:07):
I was never in. But if you didn't know until
like all of a sudden, you start frenching a little bit,
you cop it maybe a little, you know, lower lower back,
feel out, and then all of a sudden she pits
out on you out Yeah quick, fasten in a hurry,
And you played the be card right off the bat.
I mean you're talking about arm pitting. Yeah, that's what
I thought. Yeah. Yeah, So if you're saying they got
(01:03:30):
more hair than you. It's a problem.
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
Yes, that's a massive problem.
Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
What about hair on the toe deck the you know
talking about you know, on the top of the toes
that there's hair across like some dudes have that. Yeah,
if you shave and you can make a sweater vest
from all the hair, we got a problem.
Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
I even for me, like, I even have a problem.
And again I'm probably gonna get crushed on this one.
But dudes that have excessive chest hair and stomach hair,
you look stupid.
Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
I find it really with my guys. Okay, no, I'm
I'm with you. I don't can't grow a lot of
hair on my I just don't have a lot of hair.
Mine's still like I'm sixteen on look, man, I don't care.
I don't care what people say.
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
If someone's gonna call in and call me soft, whatever,
I shave my chest, I'll let it grow out a bit.
But then it's like dudes that have like wool wool vests.
Speaker 5 (01:04:17):
So you're talking about it. If a guy that's so
hair that if he shaves his arms but it doesn't shave,
but doesn't shave his chest, that it's a sweater vest
built in. It's stupid. Dude shaved their arms. I don't.
I've never shaved my arms or like he grabbed that
ear and nose hair too. That's you have to there's
(01:04:38):
a full forest. Uh there filter there's a mutual friend
of ours that has out of control nose hair. Really, yeah,
don't tell me who it is. I don't want to know. Yeah,
but I don't want to know. Okay, I don't want
to know. I'll tell you all. I don't want to
know that either, because they all start looking at likely
you will the nose down, No, you will? Yeah, yeah,
you know, nobody's perfect, but I know like I met
(01:05:00):
him through you. You don't even Okay, well let me
know who he is? Maneah, well, I'm sure I probably
if I introduced you down to about five guys. Okay,
I'm trying to pick which one it is. But I
it's nobody's perfect. But it's okay to make.
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
The lebraty things. I see you smile and tripley. What
did Brandon say?
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:05:16):
Yes, he said that was his mother. Oh Kim, okay,
got it? What a Kim say?
Speaker 9 (01:05:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:05:21):
She said that Brandon need get a pair of care
Yesterday he.
Speaker 5 (01:05:23):
Did get a pedicure. Yeah, you got a petticure. Picture. Okay,
most if you're gonna go set in the chair and
get the get the full money. Yeah you know what
I'm saying. Let's go get you a little wine. Yeah,
a little bit and specially said it was a family.
That's fantastic family. The petties together, stays together. I like it.
(01:05:45):
And you know then that you grab yourself a little mimsy.
Yeah yeah, what what's wrong with no a little white
wine with a little lord No, no, no, no, no, no wine.
And you want to know it's champagne, right, but you know,
maybe you want to turn into a little spritzer with
some orange mix. No, like an orange cicle cream sickle
like ice cream on the plane. I'm not opposed to it.
(01:06:08):
So yeah, not opposed to it. I do get, I
do get your commitment to mimsies in the chair. Well
you're getting. I like it.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
I love real quick before we go to break and
I know we're a little bit behind. Where's gil at
because we've got Gilbert on whole. We'll get to Gilbert,
But where's Gill?
Speaker 5 (01:06:23):
I don't give you the right Gil's probably working hard
guy schedule change. Yeah, he's probably got a lot of
work going on. You got to give that's maybe a
different time for them, you know're talking about the sports side,
maybe a little different time. But like I said, I
names and voices we missed because they're either I remember
when our guy new job had to change his and
(01:06:44):
we're still searching for al. Yeah, man, that sucks and
was als in Columbus thousands on. There's an al in
Columbus Southside, but now the one outside is ol Southside. Yeah,
miss him missing, but yeah, well they'll all be back.
I mean they probably need a break too. Man, never
know what's going on in somebody's life.
Speaker 4 (01:06:59):
So it's always I want to extend the stake out
because there are some big time tickets that went on
sale yesterday and we got to talk about it.
Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
That's next, all right, Let's also talk about country boys
roofing country with the k Boys with a Z. A
proud new member of the Better Business Bureau. My guy John.
It meant a lot to him, and in your roof
and your safety and security means a lot to him
as well. He's not going to price gouge you listen
on a full roof if you are a first responder,
(01:07:26):
if you are a educator, or if you are in
the military, you get one five hundred dollars discount off
the full roof and you'll get that free estimate as well.
And if you're not one of those, but you mentioned
my name, then you'll get a thousand dollars discount off
that full roof. Take care of it. They're going to
help you navigate insurance claims that nobody wants to deal with.
(01:07:46):
They are going to do it right. They're going to

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, all right, Sean, what are
you hearing out there now?
Speaker 8 (01:08:42):
The Salsbury's takeout, Salsburyef takeout on.
Speaker 16 (01:08:47):
The Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
For an extend the steak out here on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Very very important. Tickets went on sale on Monday, Sean,
And I just want to know if you got them.
You ready for it?
Speaker 6 (01:09:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
Tickets went on sale Monday for Fire Festival two, nearly
eight years after the infamous Bahamas festival that led to
its founder Billy McFarlane being convicted of wire fraud. Fire
Festival two tickets on sale.
Speaker 5 (01:09:39):
You're gone.
Speaker 4 (01:09:40):
I forget what kind of festival that was that was
the infamous Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:09:44):
Remember the story? But what did they go there? What
is the fire Festival?
Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
So Fire Festival is basically a massive you know, the big, big,
festival Burning Man out in California.
Speaker 5 (01:09:59):
I was just about to say, is this like out?
Is this the Burning Man Festival out in the desert.
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
It was supposed to be like that. But in the Bahamas,
this guy, Billy McFarlane was promising these people all these fancy,
lavish ticket packages where you can go stay in this
bungalow right on the water. He was supposed to have
all these massive headliners, and at the end of the day,
(01:10:25):
no one committed to it, no one was gonna go.
He scammed all these and honestly it was young white people.
All the young white guys from like New York City,
all these rich white white dudes booked all these packages.
They go there and these bungalows were Fema tents. They
were hanging out mattresses like the The food packages were
(01:10:47):
basically slices of bread, lettuce, and tomato.
Speaker 5 (01:10:51):
Disappear. Yes, he be scammed.
Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
Everybody disappeared and he ended up getting you know, he
ended up going to prison for it.
Speaker 5 (01:10:57):
That I did know he got into. That's what it is.
It's the Burning Man and the Bahamas. Yes, a live
I don't know anything about it, but I've had I've
heard a lot of stuff about the burning Man thing.
Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
Yeah, oh yeah, you see some Yeah, there's some yeah, man, there's.
Speaker 5 (01:11:11):
Some questionable stuff. Yeah yeah. So here's here's uh, let's see,
here's just not I'm not going to that festival. I
have no interest.
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
So he's now he's out of prison, and now he's
trying to put this thing back together. In the ticket
package ranged from fourteen hundred bucks up to one point
one million dollars.
Speaker 5 (01:11:28):
Why would you go back to a guy who's who's
already proven to you that he is dishonorable and stole
your money?
Speaker 4 (01:11:36):
He literally stole millions and millions.
Speaker 5 (01:11:38):
Dollars And what kind of what kind of dumb ass
has somebody steal your money? He gets out of it
and starts it up again. Would make you think, oh,
I feel comfortable giving him a ten grand? Well, why
would you do that? Go to the Bahamas yourself and
stay at Atlantis, okay, like everybody else. And if it's
if it's all the guys and girls in the group
(01:12:01):
of you're into, then go on a guy girl trip
with each other and go have a blast. Schedule it yourself. Okay,
I there was a lot of dumb you know, for
a country that's so smart.
Speaker 4 (01:12:13):
We got a lot of dumb asses out there, if
you go watch the documentary on it. Literally the dudes
that were buying it were like these young like these
young basic white guys, finance guys. What a shock, A
bunch of mommy and daddy money, What a shock spending
thousands and thousands of dollars.
Speaker 5 (01:12:30):
Because it's not their money, right, you know, It's like
I just I don't get it, you know, I don't
get ye. Hey, you stole a bunch of money from me, disappeared,
They put you, they they put you in the in
prison in a big house. Yeah right, you get out
(01:12:50):
and you come back and start asking me for money again,
to go to the same exact place that you took
money from me the first time. Not me, but some
some I'm asked, who didn't look deep into it. Yeah. Yeah,
that that that That's That's exactly what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 4 (01:13:06):
Billy McFarlane said in a statement yesterday, quote, I'm sure
many people think I'm crazy for doing this again, but
I feel I'd be crazy not to do it again.
After years of reflection and how thoughtful planning, the new
team and I have amazing plans for fire.
Speaker 5 (01:13:19):
To one of them. Is one of them sticking him
on a firing squad. It's loading on him. I mean really,
he was. He pled.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
He pled guilty to twenty six million dollars worth of
wire fraud and serve nearly four years in prison.
Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
So hey, we got a better plan, dude. I'm sorry.
I'm glad you're out and you're trying to rehab your life.
But I'm not part of your rehab. Okay, Sorry, I'll
be there. I'll say, hey, man, good luck. You need
my arm around you, great little shoulder to shoulder. Man, Hey,
tough times. I hope you turn it around, your comebacks
better than the original. But I'm not giving you any money. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
This is the best part in this official rel uh.
It says sold out dot Com and Friendly Sky are
working with Fire Festival to to provide ticket and hospitality packages,
which range from fourteen hundred dollars up to one point
one million dollars. McFarland thanked his partners for the second chance.
Speaker 5 (01:14:14):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
And then it also says no musical acts have been
announced yet so announced yet, So.
Speaker 5 (01:14:19):
Do you do you realize that there are going to
be somebody who are going to pay. Yeah, they are
going to give him money. Oh yeah, one, that's called
enabling folks. Yeah, his festival, your money is your your dumbass.
Speaker 4 (01:14:30):
His festival promises an electrifying celebration of music, arts, cuisine, comedy, fashion, gaming, sports,
and treasure hunting, all set in the stunning location of
Isla Mouharis, Mexico.
Speaker 5 (01:14:43):
Okay, so let me let me go back to yeah, okay,
so it's not the Bobos Island of Moharris, Mexico. Yeah yeah,
so when is it? Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:14:52):
It is scheduled for just had it on here, hang
on May thirtieth to June second. But there there's no
there's no there's no acts. There's no act schedule. That's
the most part about in March.
Speaker 5 (01:15:05):
Yeah yeah, I suggest you give him all your money,
empty your bank account, just give it to him so
you can prove us just how stupid you are.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
Cheapest ticket fourteen hundred bucks. But no one's no one's
listed as entertainers that are going to be there.
Speaker 5 (01:15:20):
So so this this, this has this has oh helldo
written all over it. What a dumb ass? Yeah, what
a dumb ass?
Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
Seven one three, seven eighties and number to join us
roll along right here on sport Stock seven eighty.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show sales. That's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
No, I'm I don't know who that is man. It's
called ambrosia ambrosia. Yeah, who's that much of white guys?
Ambrosia ambrosia? Okay, and don't be done with that cut yet?
Take that pop pop that back up?
Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
Nah? Can't it ended?
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Nah?
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
Yeah it's gone. No, no, no, no, you're good American rock
band informed in LA in nineteen seventy.
Speaker 5 (01:16:02):
Yeah they were. They only had five top forty hits
legends Ambrosia. Okay, you better recognize. Nah, you're a little
down on ambrosia. Huh, I've just never heard them. They
want you to make a wish baby. That was a vibe,
thank you, it was thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:16:20):
Yeah, that was a vibe.
Speaker 5 (01:16:23):
Yeah, you make a baby. Time We will make it
come true? All right? I mean, do you understand like
the verbiage in it. No, you're listening to the lyrics.
Only time will make it come true. And it's everything
I can wait do for you. They know. Now, O,
(01:16:47):
let my love rain down on you, Brian, Just let

about time, time's money. The way we spend our time
defines who we are. Sure, so we're just a couple
of radio hacks. That's it.
Speaker 4 (01:17:01):
Man, spend time with hotel man, Gilbert, appreciate you holding
Good morning.
Speaker 17 (01:17:07):
Good morning, guys, what's up? And I just want to
talk about the shows and see what they can do.
And at least we got our infield and they're pretty good.
And uh, I think, well, we gonna do is work
on the off field now. But I think we're gonna
be okay this year.
Speaker 15 (01:17:20):
I think we're gonna do better than we did last
year because at least we got a good first base man,
third baseman and the infield is good. So now let's
talk about the Rockets. What's going on with them? I said,
I guess they'll get it together soon.
Speaker 6 (01:17:31):
And you all were talking earlier about the petticures and
stuff like that, but you just don't know how that is.
Speaker 15 (01:17:35):
Why it's it's really something else and maybe working construction
you really needed so a man, and then you know, yeah,
it's it's good to have petticures. Man. Man, after you
get down with them, it's like you like you're walking
on clouds.
Speaker 5 (01:17:48):
I'm with you, Teddy manny brother, I am with you
and you construct you.
Speaker 17 (01:17:52):
But but but but I ain't down with the I
ain't down with the penny toenails though, No, no.
Speaker 5 (01:17:58):
To me, to me pic pedicure, pedicure with the buff
Other than that, ain't no no polish going on my nails.
But yeah, you're for you in the construction world, right,
your feet and your hands get beat up. A good
pedicure that puts you to sleep too, man. You lean
back in that massage chain.
Speaker 6 (01:18:18):
Put the little rocks on there, like when they.
Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
Have heated rocks.
Speaker 15 (01:18:23):
Yeah, I like the one where they put your feet
in the plastics, you know, with the with the wax.
Speaker 5 (01:18:28):
Oh hell yeah, it's tell you like, could you could
you give me a second batch of that wax?
Speaker 8 (01:18:32):
Man?
Speaker 5 (01:18:33):
I'm good with that. Yeah. And then they put that
they put that the stuff that what do they call
the what's the stuff you put on your face with
this this stuff folio? Yeah, when they fully eat your
calves and your.
Speaker 6 (01:18:45):
Feet in the hotel.
Speaker 5 (01:18:49):
Yes, man, I'm gonna go give you a petty this week.
Celebrate just the radio hat. There's the radio has At.
Speaker 6 (01:18:58):
Least we're starting off with a good basement.
Speaker 15 (01:19:00):
We got a decent, decent third basement now and then
feels good. We just need to start working on the outfield,
see what we can do there.
Speaker 6 (01:19:06):
But as far as Nationals go, I think they're gonna
be a little lot better because.
Speaker 5 (01:19:09):
We ain't got to wory about holes there.
Speaker 6 (01:19:11):
They're trying to do something.
Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
I hope you're right. I hope you're right. But they
are better at first base, no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 15 (01:19:18):
Oh yeah, And I think we're gonna be good this year.
And gay we got the livestock show on Rodeo. Man,
I'm backing htown again. Let's go anyway. Yeah, you appreciate
my cousin got Actually my cousin helped me out.
Speaker 6 (01:19:30):
We're gonna be working the contentions out there.
Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Good we're at.
Speaker 6 (01:19:34):
Yeah, the Energy said you.
Speaker 4 (01:19:36):
Yeah, I know where though in in our in in
the Energy Stadium section what.
Speaker 6 (01:19:40):
Uh Yeah, the usually the spotib we go is is
one O three one three.
Speaker 5 (01:19:46):
Yeah. That's uh. We do like we.
Speaker 15 (01:19:49):
Do like hot dogs and pencils and nachos and we
do all we said everything there. It's pretty good popcorn
and all that. But I'm not sure what the what
the menu is gonna be there for the last stock
showing rodeos.
Speaker 6 (01:20:01):
But yeah, that's that's what it is.
Speaker 5 (01:20:03):
Awesome, safe out there. Well thanks, you appreciate check it
out all right, thanks? Thanks. Another man with the pedicure,
there you go, man like it? Yeah you want to
payte your fingernails? No, I like I get them buffed
and shined. It's clear. I just buffed and shine. Man.
Let's go. That's a leak. Course. When he's talking about
(01:20:27):
guys running through the second yeah, that's my guy. Get
those done on my hands, good to go. I like
a little exfoliate.
Speaker 4 (01:20:34):
Okay, y don't they put like lettuce on your legs
and stuff too?
Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
Right right now? They put letuce on here? No, they
don't put any lettuce on my legs.
Speaker 4 (01:20:40):
Appreciate like cucumbers or something like seaweed.
Speaker 5 (01:20:43):
Yes, there you go. No, not not on it, not
on a just on your loaded pedicure. They don't get
but they do put wax on your feet, hot wax
and hot towels and stones, a little bit of everything. Yeah,
have you ever exfoliated? Yeah? Why don't you take us
to break and exfoliate these nuts on your forehead?
Speaker 4 (01:21:00):
I mean if you weren't gonna do it. I was
coming from one of us, that's for sure. You already
get in the eight o'clock hour.
Speaker 5 (01:21:06):

Speaker 5 (01:21:15):
That's next, right, and I will be taking this segment
off to day. Bye bye. Let's get in the eight
o'clock hour. Next, kd E Houston, k tv E, hd
T Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Ye as a Rocket.
Speaker 8 (01:21:30):
Is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams.
Make Houston Sports the number one preset on your car radio,
and then you would improved iHeartRadio app free never sounded
so good.
Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
Saulisbury Salisbury Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
To usc truth longtime friend shown Salisbury, Ryan.
Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
Lonle Go Lobos.
Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
This is the Sean sALS Very show you of h
beats Texas Tech. They clinch at least a share of
the Big twelve title. Baseball season, getting closer and closer
(01:22:22):
for the uh start of the season. Obviously, what we're
in week two of spring training. As we get closer, Sean,
what's your real what's a realistic expectation? That you have
of these astros. I know you said that they're not
the favorite to win the division. I think we both
(01:22:43):
agree that they can win the division, but I think
it's gonna be tougher than we think. What's your realistic
expectation wildcard.
Speaker 5 (01:22:49):
Team, battle in the division. I'm not ready to just
give up the division yet, battle for a play come
down the stretch last, you know, two three weeks of
the season, position to where you still can win the
division and you can still make a wild card and
you can still miss out on both. I expect it
to be that kind of eighty five to eighty eight
(01:23:09):
type win season, eighty four to eighty eight, somewhere in
that range. I don't think they're a ninety plus team,
but a lot of that is going to hinge on
how great does a pitching staff pitch and how much
do they hold up? How healthy are they? Listen, you
could hit two twenty and still win a World Series,
We've seen it. But you can't hit two eighty and
have an ERA of nine as a staff and win
(01:23:30):
a World Series. Does that make sense? Yeah, he just
can't do it. So that stay healthy with pitching staff
and do what they've done the last couple of years.
Lean on that. Those are the two things, so in
a position to win it. They don't look right now
like a World Series team, But what happens if you
just allow yourself to get in and you're playing hot
at the right time, and bats start to light up
(01:23:52):
and pitching's going well and you're healthy, you got a
legitimate chance. They don't look right now like a World
Series team to me, but they do look like a
team that can battle for the division and while at that,
battling for a wild card spot. But some good things
are gonna have to happen and you're gonna have to
get and my last part is you're gonna have to
get a overachieving season by the outfield. Yeah, you're gonna
(01:24:18):
they're gonna have to overachieve. Other than that, I like
the infield. I you know, the I think the pitching
staff's got a real chance, as it has the last
couple of years. They've been really good. And Joe's body
year two is a manager stuff to learn then that
he can bring to the table and to teach. And uh,
in contention, not a favorite. How's that?
Speaker 4 (01:24:39):
Yeah? I would agree with that? So you know, it's
it's interesting to see how some of these sports books
and Vegas feels about the AO West. I think it
was two weeks ago I read some over unders for
the AO West and how it had the Rangers and
Mariners ahead of the Astros. I found one last night
(01:24:59):
and it had as the Astros as eighty six and
a half win total over under. It has the Rangers
now at eighty five and a half and it has
the Mariners at eighty four and a half. So uh
per this sports book, they've got the Astros winning the AL.
Speaker 5 (01:25:16):
West, and I think it's I think there's gonna be
three teams within a couple of games. I do. I
think it comes down to the last couple of weeks,
and I think that's fair. And if the pitching holds
up once you if you got pitching and it holds
up once you're in, it's a whole different ballgame. Into
the post, we're a long way from that. You got
to be a little lucky along the way too. You
gotta be a little lucky with health. You got to
(01:25:36):
be a little lucky for some and there's gonna have
to be somebody or two more than one has a
career year. It's just gonna have to happen. I know
what I expect from your don I know to expect
from Al Tuvey. I'm not sure yet what Jeremy Paine
is gonna give me at the plate. I don't know yet.
I'm anxious to see. I think Christian Walker, we get
a pretty good idea who he is, but we haven't
(01:25:59):
seen him in this un But I think you get
to be nice to have another a career your type
for him. So and one of those outfielders not named
hose Al too, but he's gonna have to elevate. They
just are, whether it's a young player, whether it's Chas McCormick,
uh and Yiner Diaz continue to handle the staff and
elevate and continue to look like an All Star and
maybe make an All Star team as the catcher, and
(01:26:19):
that bat continues to be able to hit anywhere from
what four to six and and and produce runs. But
they there's there's there's more ifsit's around them than we've
had in the past, with health going in and outfield
and new players. When's the last time you had a
new third basement here? When's the last time it was
an unfamiliar for I mean the first basi's kind of
(01:26:41):
since since Yuley left, it's been kind of a crap
shoot of how you're gonna line up and play that
position regularly. But it's been a while since, you know,
I mean, you don't have that stud five star right fielder,
you know, five tool right fielder. Should I say so?
But the pitching, the one thing they have is they've
got some pitching. And with that pitching, you can be
(01:27:02):
in the whole thing. And I get why some of
the books in Vegas believe that they should win the division.
But if you notice there's three teams within like two games,
all it takes is one injury and you're in trouble.
And all it takes is for one guy to over
achieve and you may win the division by three games.
So that's where I got him. I got him battling
to win the division, battling for a wild card if
(01:27:23):
they don't win the division, and would have to ask
them out of body experiences and stay healthy and be
a little lucky to be the World Series champions.
Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
Yeah, it's the mg what is it? Bet MGM. At
one point they had the Mariners and Rangers with the
best odds to win the Aos with the Astros and third,
now they have the Astros as the winner plus one
thirty five Mariners plus two twenty five Rangers plus two
twenty five, and then they flip over to like FanDuel sportsbook,
(01:27:51):
They've got the Astros plus one eighty, then the Rangers
plus one ninety, then the Mariners at plus two hundred.
Mariners have the best pitching staff on paper. Like their
pitching staff is really good, dude, it's it's it's pretty good.
It's uh, Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Bryce Miller,
Brian wu and then.
Speaker 5 (01:28:08):
Good, they're gonna need more than five. Yeah, if they're
fortunate and they're five, hold up, the Mariners are advantage
of them. But I'm gonna tell you what, the Texas
Ranger staff is exactly chopped liver.
Speaker 4 (01:28:18):
If they hold up Jacob de Gram, Nathan Uvaldi, John Gray,
Tyler mal and Cody Bradford, they're pretty good. De Gram
stays healthy, you know what he's gonna bring.
Speaker 5 (01:28:27):
Well If if de Gram stays healthy, and those bats
are the way they were a couple of years ago,
anywhere near that, and that guy pitches has thirty starts
or whatever it is this season. Now we say if
it's been a while since he's you know, I mean,
we haven't seen Jason Jacob de gram finish a full
season in a minute, right, If he does, and he's
who we think he is, he'll be in the Cy
(01:28:47):
Young talk. When that guy is pitching, he is lights out. Yeah,
he's As a matter of fact, he was the best
right hander in baseball for for a minute. If if
not the he one third I'm talking about when he
was with the Mets and going good and you know,
winning eleven games and being a Cy Young, I mean
the guy and he had no help none, what's zero?
(01:29:09):
So if he gets help with the bats and stays
healthy and gets you twenty eight starts thirty starts, you're
you're looking at a a really, really good player. And
Ivaldi's a grinder, you know, he's a tough, he's a
he's a guy. He'll get in there, and you know
he's got such good stuff. They're pretty good man. And
John Gray's really good as well.
Speaker 4 (01:29:28):
Jacob de Gramm in twenty eighteen went ten and nine
with a one point seventy r and he won the
Cy Young he wanted to get ten wins, and wins
the next year, sawn, he went eleven and eight and.
Speaker 5 (01:29:37):
Won again, and I got news when they say eight
nine losses, you wont know why that is suck? Do
you want to know why this? Because he'd give up
a run and they couldn't score one, lose right to
two to nothing, one to nothing, I mean to one.
They lose constantly, and that that guy's just when he's right,
he's a monster man. He had no mistake.
Speaker 4 (01:29:57):
He hasn't pitched. Let's see more than last time he
pitched more than twenty five games was twenty nineteen.
Speaker 5 (01:30:06):
That's what I'm saying. It's been a minute since he started.
But if he's fresh and ready to go in fully
healthy and those bats are kind of good, you're you're
looking at a cy young guy. He'll he'll be in
the talk. He's that good.
Speaker 4 (01:30:19):
Twenty twenty one he started fifteen games, twenty twenty two,
eleven games, twenty three, six games, and then last year
three games.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
They're hoping, they're hoping for the New York Mets version
of Jacob Bcgron.
Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
He's also thirty six years old. Now, what in the
hell is I know.
Speaker 5 (01:30:37):
Yeah, but you know what the crazy thing, Well, he's
had some injuries. The arm hasn't had an over abundance
of work the last few It's almost like it's an
injuries making him feel like he's older, right, even than thirty. Ye,
what does he say is thirty or six thirty six?
But lack of just straight lack of pitching, would think
that there's some fresh legs involved there, right, dude, I
didn't realize he was six four, Get big, dude. Dang,
(01:30:59):
yeah he can, he can, he can rampant. Man, He's
really good.
Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
He is really if he stays healthy, man, you know, yeah,
like you said, he's gonna be in the sight young
talk because that dude is uh pretty damn good. Seven
one three, two, one two five seven. I oh, also,
real quick, this uh uh article that I was reading,
it's got fromber Hunter Brown, Renel Blanco, Spencer, Arighetty, Hayden
Wesnesky as a projected starting five for your Houston Astros.
Uhs continue to talk about that Astros pitching staff. You
(01:31:26):
have Lance McCullers Junior about to hit a big time
step in his rehab. There was some video Yesterday's kind
of interesting. Uh, the work that he was getting in.
Let's discuss the next right here on Sports Talk.
Speaker 18 (01:31:37):
Seven ninety hell going non stop se from with former
QB Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 4 (01:31:47):
They're gooding. They have Bill Walsh.
Speaker 5 (01:31:50):
You know what I mean, Bill Walsh with the Eagles. Yeah,
who's that? Uh, Bill Walton, Who's Bill Walsh? You mean
Joe Walsh. That's why I said, yeah, Joe Walsh. Bill
Walsh didn't coach Philadelphia. He did coach the forty Diners.
But I was talking about Joe Walsh. No, no, no, Bill,
(01:32:11):
I mean Joe Walsh is one of the original Leagles. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:32:14):
Right, so I said Bill Walsh was the football coach
and Glenn Fry Yeah not Glenn Eagles. No good golf
course Dallas tho, not bad.
Speaker 5 (01:32:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:32:26):
So I'm gonna show you some video of Lance mccullor's
junior thrown yesterday, and I want you to tell me
what you think about it, and again I'll describe it
for the for the listening pope. Yeah, so excuse me,
Lance mcuellors junior, Uh, you know, did some bullpen work yesterday.
The next step will be facing live hitters this weekend.
If all goes well for the rest of the week,
(01:32:49):
here's what they had. And again, remember yesterday there were
rainouts galore all throughout the East side of Florida because
of the crazy weather that came through, and a lot
of guys move their bullpens to inside, right inside some
batty cages. Well, this was Lance mccullors junior yesterday throwing
(01:33:09):
them doing some stuff outside, throwing on that. Can you
see the platform stepping up on that platform right there?
For whatever reason? There you go in the rain. Sure, man,
let's let's let the guy that's that's essentially built like glass.
(01:33:30):
Let's have him throw some some bullpen action. And then
the wet, rainy conditions.
Speaker 5 (01:33:36):
You're worried about him slipping or something. Right, what are
we doing? So he's the last guy you want pitching
in anything other than perfect condition. It's yeah, the conditions.
Gotta get our work in.
Speaker 4 (01:33:50):
Brno, everyone else did stuff indoors. But let's uh, hey
see that platform over there, that wooden thing that's up
on an angle and flip off. I want you to
go stand on it and I want you to throw,
you know, throw a couple of pitches for us.
Speaker 5 (01:34:08):
Yeah, do we pitch off platforms? Now we're gonna start
pitching off a tire. Oh cool, cool, cool, cool, that's
what we want to do.
Speaker 4 (01:34:14):
And then also I saw he was throwing in the
bullpen a couple of days ago, and he had one
of those you know, the big bouncy, bouncy balls that
you see in a weight room and like you can
do ab workouts on it. Yeah, he had one tucked
under his elbow when he was thrown, tucked into his armpit.
Speaker 5 (01:34:28):
Well, you can't fit one of those big ones on
your arm, but how big it was? Like it okay,
so it was like a medicine ball size, but it
was the bouncy bouncy but medicine balls. Yeah, took it.
I understand. On the I trained quarterbacks sometimes to keep
their opposite opposite armpit for the ball in their hand,
the throwing arm underneath their arm until they finish the throw,
(01:34:51):
because that keeps you from getting too much with where
he keeps you calm pact like a golfers when they
squeeze their forearms together to keep it tight. Want you,
I want that, so to keep that. If the towel's
falling out on your throw and finish, then you're then
you've got we got to get make you more compact.
So I get that, But the medicine ball size, I'm small,
(01:35:11):
and I'm not sure what that's It was on his
non throwing arm right, No, I don't think it was
there has left arm right has to be correct. I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:35:22):
No, No, it was in his right arm. Is to keep
him compact and tight. Mm hmm yeah cool, ye check
it out. Yeah, here's right here. You'll see it. This
was just a couple of days ago. Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 5 (01:35:39):
All right, that's just on the initial push off the rubber.
Uh huh, sweet love, good solid mechanics. I guess no
matter how you get to him. Okay, I found an
interesting man.
Speaker 4 (01:35:54):
You got a guy that's been riddled with injuries over
the last two three years, and you got him thrown
out in the rain.
Speaker 5 (01:36:02):
Hmmm yeah, well you know what, maybe they found something
that he just needed a little work out in the rain.
Makes sense. You can blame it on the rain that
was slowly falling if you want, what song is that.
Blame it on the rain that was slow lip falling.
Isn't that those two dudes who faked it the fair
(01:36:23):
blame it on the stole the shine at night. The
ones who fake lip synced and so put it out there. Uh,
so and so and so and so you let the
fair right by ESPN, they had the there's the outdoor
amusement park. They did a concert there. You know who
I'm talking about. Idea. Yeah, you do when you when
you do it, that's song. Put blame it on the
(01:36:43):
rain and tell me flame is that? Yeah? They did.
Go ahead, and go ahead and look up Milli Vanilli
lips sync controversy.
Speaker 4 (01:36:54):
Okay, lip Milli Vanilli lip sync scandal.
Speaker 5 (01:36:58):
There you go. Was it in Connecticut? At the at
the I think they you know, they had their outdoor
like amusement park thing. I thought that was where it was.
And it's right down the street from ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut.
But do you have Milli and Vanilly? Okay, blame it
on there? That that's I can't believe you didn't hear
(01:37:19):
about that. You're not the cut master. I've noticed you
are no longer the cut master dog. It's okay, though,
you've you've really slacked in that area. Let's see.
Speaker 4 (01:37:28):
And Milli Vanilli by far the most infamous lips singing
scandal and music history.
Speaker 5 (01:37:37):
And you didn't know anything about it. No, see, I
told you could blame it on the rain that was
well slowly fallen.
Speaker 4 (01:37:45):
Brian Pilattis and more Van were out of his phonies.
Their producer, Frank Farrion gave them up when he admitted it.
U wasn't it when he admitted it wasn't really them
singing on the records or during during performances.
Speaker 5 (01:38:01):
Huh? Now imagine that. There you go. You learned something
new all the time, don't you, Brian know? Is that
a what what did you say? I think they did
it at one of them? Was it at a theme park? Yep? Yeah?
Lake Compounds their compounds Compounds. That's there you go, Lake
Compounds right next to ESPN.
Speaker 4 (01:38:22):
Brother July twenty first, nineteen eighty nine.
Speaker 5 (01:38:26):
There you go, There you go, Milly and Vanilli.
Speaker 4 (01:38:31):
I didn't know that man.
Speaker 5 (01:38:32):
Yes, hey, hey, listen, a wealth of useless knowledge I
brought to you today.
Speaker 4 (01:38:38):
This is the one that ousted them.
Speaker 5 (01:38:42):
Yeah, you know, they haven't been the same since. Nobody's
really paid attention to him since True Story.
Speaker 4 (01:38:46):
Late Compounds nineteen eighty nine, the disastrous show that exposed
Milli Vanilly.
Speaker 5 (01:38:51):
Yep, and they were never looked at the same again.
Sadly enough, I don't know who they I don't know who.
They blamed it on the brain more a Milli or Vanilla,
I'm not sure. But that's how we got from blame
it on the rain with Lance and him pitching outdoors yesterday.
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
Yeah, Bristol, Connecticut.
Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:39:08):
A technical error exposed the duo as frauds and showed
that they couldn't sing at all during their performance. A
hard drive issue caused the recording of the hit song
girl you.
Speaker 5 (01:39:18):
Know It's true, Good, you know It's true.
Speaker 4 (01:39:21):
Jam skipped it repeatedly played a part of the line
girl you know It's through the large pa to the crowd.
Speaker 5 (01:39:28):
Yeah, he said, I knew.
Speaker 6 (01:39:32):
That.
Speaker 4 (01:39:33):
It was the beginning of the end for Millie Vanilli.
Speaker 5 (01:39:36):
Yeah, tough run. Shug tried to fool the world into
thinking that they could, you know, go out there and
make it happen.
Speaker 4 (01:39:43):
When my voice got stuck in the computer and it
just kept repeating and repeating, I panicked. I just ran
off stage.
Speaker 5 (01:39:50):
Because they can't sing. Geez, I'll think about that. And
they made a lot of a lot of money scamming people. Wow.
Speaker 4 (01:39:56):
Yeah, so there you go, man, and Milli Vanilli is
your favorit favorite band.
Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
One of my favorites. Yeah, oh, there's no doubt it's
your favorite. Oh man, that computer generated voice awesome triple
Do you know who Milli Vanilli is? You do? Now?
There you go? Now Lake Compounds that's literally right down
the street from the the what they call it headquarters,
the Worldwide Leader.
Speaker 4 (01:40:22):
Will used to be the Worldwide Leader.
Speaker 5 (01:40:25):
So I don't know why they'd have Lance mccollors to
make a long story long throwing in the rain. Yeah,
maybe sometimes maybe he wanted to maybe you want to
get his grind on, Well, get your grind down in
their song like that, But it's not but I like
to say grind.
Speaker 4 (01:40:43):
That's Florida Georgia line.
Speaker 5 (01:40:44):
Yeah. I need them back too, That is.
Speaker 4 (01:40:47):
Florida Georgia line.
Speaker 5 (01:40:49):
Yeah. Are they gonna come back together? I don't know. Probably, Yeah,
that's difference of opinion will cause a breakup. Man, got
to fix it. Tough for the million. It's a tough
tough on Milli Vanilli, but tough on duos. But yeah,
but that's there. They sing a little bit better than
Millie Vannelli. Florida, Georgia A line.
Speaker 4 (01:41:06):
Yeah, I think so. I mean they got some they
got some bangers.
Speaker 5 (01:41:08):
Over under uh Lance missus thirty starts this year, damn
over under twenty and a half starts.
Speaker 4 (01:41:18):
For for lmj uh mull it over come back and yeah,
let's do that next right here on Sportslock seven to eighty,
We're there. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Gary, good morning.
Speaker 5 (01:41:32):
Hey, good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 4 (01:41:33):
Here we okay, yes, sir, we got you. What's on
your mind?
Speaker 13 (01:41:36):
Okay, hey, uh, I thought FYI Day was Fridays, but
since you guys are into the FYS this morning, I
got a couple. You were talking earlier about the guy
that stole all the money and then.
Speaker 5 (01:41:46):
Got out of jail and was Billy mc yeah doing
the same thing again. So that one.
Speaker 13 (01:41:53):
The phrase to go with that one is uh fooled
me once, shame on you, and so forth and so on.
The other one you were talking about the uh Milli Vanilli,
the ones that was lip singing everything, And I got
one here for you.
Speaker 6 (01:42:07):
Sean.
Speaker 13 (01:42:08):
You'll be probably remember this when Brian.
Speaker 5 (01:42:10):
You're too young for this one. But do you remember
the monkeys, the group of the markets. You used to
watch their show every Saturday morning.
Speaker 13 (01:42:18):
I did to you know what the deal about them was.
Speaker 5 (01:42:23):
They were not monkeys, they were hyenas.
Speaker 13 (01:42:26):
No, maybe that too, but they didn't play their instruments.
Speaker 5 (01:42:30):
Their instruments was chimed in. Oh it was the instrument.
When they'd think like they were on stage doing a guitar.
It was never them, is what you're telling me?
Speaker 13 (01:42:38):
Yep, exactly. So anyway, those are my two f wives
for the day.
Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
I like it. I like it. Appreciate thank you, brother,
Appreciate you. Gary. That's adding to our wealth of useless
knowledge that we bring. And Gary chimed in. You don't
think about the monkeys.
Speaker 4 (01:42:52):
I know the monkeys. I didn't know they didn't play instrument.
Speaker 5 (01:42:54):
Yeah, I did not know that either. Man, great great,
uh great knowledge. Appreciate him. Thank you. There you go,
stalk to Reggie. What's up, Reggie do? Oh? Hey Sean?
Speaker 19 (01:43:13):
Uh, I wasn't calling about this, but do you remember
that song?
Speaker 9 (01:43:16):
It was raining men.
Speaker 4 (01:43:18):
It's one of Sean's favorites.
Speaker 5 (01:43:20):
Yeah, all over me, just following all over my forehead
and may I love that? Yeah, just like that hot
dog gif. Okay, no, what no, I don't. I don't
know if it's raining, who sings it? What you know
that you know that song? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh
that's a great that's actually got a great Yeah. No,
(01:43:43):
I shot by the way, we'd a flat passed away. Yeah.
Speaker 19 (01:43:47):
My understanding that it was a plus size female that
sang that song, but they put somebody else out that
was I guess more appeal into the eyes of another
singer than she. But she never actually sung the song
that she was lips saying it too, So I just
thought about.
Speaker 4 (01:44:01):
That it's raining men by the weather Girls. Oh yeah,
and she was a yeah, I'm looking at these pictures,
Reggie as she was kind of big.
Speaker 5 (01:44:09):
Well she landed on you with rain one. You're dead apparently,
So yes.
Speaker 19 (01:44:15):
I gotta answer about the Texas while I received its
free agent.
Speaker 7 (01:44:18):
But real quick, it's one more thing I need to
ask you, and this is.
Speaker 19 (01:44:22):
One probably one of the most important things you ever
talked about on this show. The last time I called,
he said you were gonna get a baby hippo.
Speaker 5 (01:44:29):
Uh did you ever get that hippo? No, I said
I want. I said, I'd love to have a baby hippo.
I don't know where the hell, you'd even find a
baby hipple to put the crib. I'm not sure. Asketball.
Speaker 19 (01:44:42):
I did a Google search and come to find out,
those hippos are still on Escobars.
Speaker 6 (01:44:48):
Properly, so if you ever take a.
Speaker 5 (01:44:51):
Lasso, So I need to head out to Pablo Escobar's
Colombian crib and meta yen try to find try to dig,
dig about ten feet deep and grab some extra money
that he's got planned somewhere out there, and grab myself
a hippo. I was Brian, Yeah, Brian wanted the hippopotamus
for Christmas. R. Yeah, but yeah, baby, I take a
(01:45:13):
baby hippo, but they grow up. There's a problem there
and they're they're not. It may not be your best
friend then, so could I think it'd be cool?
Speaker 19 (01:45:21):
I like it, Reggy, listen, if it's the if it's
the if I'm the Texans. I'm on the phone with
DeMarcus Robinson a s a P. He payed for Nick
uh for the new OC dude that has seventy one
receptions uh seventy uh seven touchdowns on thirty one receptions
last year five hundred something yards as a third receiver.
(01:45:44):
They can draft a wide receiver but they don't need
to go spend a lot of like a high draft
picked one.
Speaker 5 (01:45:49):
I would be on the phone on him immediately. Yeah,
I think there's some good players available. Great point, Reggie,
thank you, thank you. And he's talking about in Los Angeles. Yeah,
I'm with you. I like it they traded for Cooper CuPy. Nope,
but I wouldn't mind seeing that too. But he makes
a good point. As a third receiver there he had.
He put up some decent numbers, no question, no question
(01:46:11):
about it.
Speaker 4 (01:46:12):
I'm just waiting for mel Kiper's draft board four point
zero to come up.
Speaker 5 (01:46:17):
You're ready for the mock, You're ready to mock it
up a little bit?
Speaker 4 (01:46:19):
Yeah, I think he's only released one so far. Just
let's mock that bad boy up.
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
Not like him? Who did you say? Passed away? ROBERTA
Flak yesterday legend, ROBERBERTA Fla She was a special voice
many eight. Yep, r I p as you like to say, Yeah, yep.
Speaker 4 (01:46:38):
I feel like making love killing me Softie with his song,
Oh damn.
Speaker 5 (01:46:44):
Put an ode. We gotta give a We got to
give an ode to ROBERTA Flack. Couple back to backers,
bring some bangers, from killing me soft one of all time.
Speaker 4 (01:46:53):
There, So there you go. That's next. Wow man, eighty
eight good? Too young though, Yeah, we're gonna say that
to your hunter. And two is still too young. It's
always too young when you get old, you know what
I mean, it's still too young. Yeah, she was really talented,
impactful singer.
Speaker 5 (01:47:13):
Eighty eight years old. Man. But as far as football goes, yeah,
I get why Reggie would like to get him, you know,
to find that receiver that may not be a number
one that you got to pay for trade assets for,
but you can go get a guy who's a good
player that can still impact you without being a number
one option. And those guys, those guys are good, hard
to find and good to keep for sure. When's the
(01:47:35):
combine not coming up? Yeah? It should be. Isn't it this?
I mean, isn't.
Speaker 4 (01:47:40):
It It's Thursday?
Speaker 5 (01:47:41):
I was going to say, I thought it was this week.
I knew it was this week.
Speaker 4 (01:47:43):
I don't know if it started Friday or Thursday or Friday,
but yeah, it starts Thursday. All right, you guys better
break it down come Thursday.
Speaker 5 (01:47:52):
I can't wait. Yep, yeap love love breaking down the
curl route that one of these guys is gonna throw
nothing better than that.
Speaker 4 (01:47:59):
Who's gonna be the next Anthony Richardson? Remember he stole
the show.
Speaker 5 (01:48:05):
Yep, easy to do in shorts and a T shirt
if you're doing it right.
Speaker 4 (01:48:08):
Bill Levins stole the show because he can throw it
at ninety nine yards.
Speaker 5 (01:48:12):
Sure he can without a crow. Hop if he could
throw it ninety nine, if you're worthy boy standing flat footed,
then he's he needs to start pitching.
Speaker 4 (01:48:22):
I mean, look, let's let's let's keep it real here.
The kicking workout starts on Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (01:48:27):
Okay, so that's your favorite part of the combat.
Speaker 4 (01:48:31):
Yeah it is, yeah, man, it is no doubt. You
got measurements and on field workout Thursday, bench press, Yeah,
on Friday. That's for the place kickers, defensive linemen and linebackers.
You got defensive backs and tight ends. They start on Thursday.
Running backs, quarterbacks, wide receivers on Friday. With their media availability,
(01:48:51):
on field workout is Saturday. And then the offensive lineman,
the big boys, they start their workout on Sunday and
they have their press on Monday.
Speaker 5 (01:49:00):
Damn.
Speaker 4 (01:49:01):
So it runs from Thursday to Monday. Interesting, man, it's
gonna be on NFL network.
Speaker 5 (01:49:07):
If you want to watch every year made for TV event,
that's what it is. That's what it is now. Yep,
that's what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:49:13):
Didn Deon Sanders worked for NFL network, right, and he
used to be there and call it.
Speaker 5 (01:49:17):
Yeah, he would, he would do it. He worked for
him for a while. Yeah. Is the NFL network about
the dollars now? Man? Yeah, it's a made for TV
the hell. I'm surprised they don't add an extra week
to it and make just watch everything.
Speaker 4 (01:49:30):
Yeah you said you so? You said from Lance Colors
twenty and a half starts. Yeah, I'm taking the under fair,
I'm taking the under What do you think our what
do you think?
Speaker 5 (01:49:39):
Our? Listeners say? I don't know, Well, I I we
should ask twenty and a half over under. I feel like.
Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
I feel like a good majority of the fan base
is out on lancema Colors Junior. Anytime a video gets
posted to him working out or doing anything, it's just
negativity galore.
Speaker 5 (01:49:59):
I'm not even talking about the negativity. But do you
blame him for treading lightly on wondering what he's going
to be like? No, that doesn't mean Now the hatred
I've never understood that anyway you can have you can
have you know, no hatred for somebody or negativity and
just still not trust that they're going to be back
doing what you want. You can have a civilized conversation
(01:50:20):
about it. But I don't blame the fans one bit
because I I'm skeptical. I would take the under as well.
Twenty and a half. I know what I wish for
and I know what I want for him. I mean,
I like seeing people make comebacks and hitting and doing
you know, coming back from I'm sure he's had some
really rough times missing you know, baseball for two years.
Where he has it's just been work, work, work, work, work,
(01:50:42):
not to enjoy the fruits of his labor. But there
it's there's a certain time in comebacks, regardless of the
reason you're making a comeback, injury, rock bottom, tough times,
whatever it is, that it becomes personal. And I would imagine,
and maybe I'm wrong, but I would imagine there's something
the fulfillment doesn't come as avenge or get even to
show everybody that you can do it. It's to show
(01:51:03):
yourself that that intro that that that interior that you say,
I'm doing this to prove that I can get back
to where I want to go, and there's and it
becomes personal and in the process you don't need to
say anything right, everybody else to do the talking for you.
So but I get a fans doubt because I don't
know if we're going to see mcculors be the same
(01:51:24):
guy we saw before all this, when he was when
he was at his very best. I get the doubt,
and I hope. I think fans would stand up and
cheer if they were all wrong and say, yep, I
was wrong about it. But twenty and a half starts
for me is I would take the understill until it's
proven different, And I hope he proves everybody that wonders
if he's going to be back different and it becomes
(01:51:44):
a viable option as one of your you know, one
of your starters, yeh, one of your guys. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
Twenty and a half starts for Lance mccullor's junior ashs fans.
You take in the over or the under. We'll discuss next.
Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 4 (01:52:02):
Twenty and a half starts over under four Lance Piclors.
You know, let's go to line three. See how it
goes all right, line two, line five. There it is perfect.
Thank you for the feedback that a boy, here we go.
(01:52:27):
I'm taking the understill.
Speaker 5 (01:52:32):
All right, you say that would draw a lot of
love force. Oh, good, disgracious, great in it? I love it.
I love it.
Speaker 4 (01:52:47):
It's great, It is awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:52:51):
All right? Is this season from Major League Baseball? Is it?
Speaker 4 (01:52:57):
Is it the Dodgers and everybody else? Or you think
of teams actually be able to compete with them down
the stretch?
Speaker 5 (01:53:01):
Oh, they'll compete. They'll be teams that are hanging around. Oh,
it always happens. They're not going to go and win
by thirty games. Somebody's gonna get hurt. Here, a pitcher's
going to miss a start. You know. It's they'll they'll
be stuff that surrounds it. They're you know, how hungry
are they after I'm sure hungry. He'd like to go
and do it again. But they won one, I mean
a big one, a legitimate one, full season, the whole thing,
(01:53:22):
and spent a lot of money and it paid off
for them, And I'm sure that they're excited and they
know that when they line up, if they play their
best baseball and air healthy, there's nobody better than them.
They're not gonna. They're not gonna. I don't see how
you beat them in a in a long series. Yeah,
I don't see it happens. But yeah, teams will hang around. Sure,
(01:53:43):
it's one of those where what's wrong with the Dodgers
when they go through a little losing streak depending on
how long that ever is. But there's a lot of
pressure on them, a lot of pressure to repeat, a
lot of pressure with all the money and payroll they
got grit Starr after star after star after star after star.
Egos will be involve. We know that always is the case,
and you know when you win, can will ego stay
(01:54:06):
and check enough to focus on what they're doing. There's
a lot that goes with managing a team that wins,
not just managing teams that are underachieve, teams that you
know achieve greatness and keeping them great. That'll be the
challenge for Dave Roberts. Hell, you can roll the ball
out on the field and not manage a lick and
that team's winning ninety games. That's not I'm not saying
that because of Dave Roberts. I'm saying it wouldn't matter
(01:54:27):
if it was Bruce Bochi or aj Hinch. They're gonna
win ninety games if you and I are managing them. Yeah,
it's the other you know, ten to twenty wins that
they may get push it, you know, in that hundred
plus range. Now, if they get up to one hundred,
in one hundred and five range, they'll run away at
a high. Oh yeah, no doubt. But then then then
the challenge is can you keep them focused and in
(01:54:51):
competitive mode when they're ten games up or fifteen games
up or twelve games up with a month to go
and just and then it becomes we're just fighting for
individual awards, right, we got ours, So I think there
are challenges to go with it. Somebody be around. Philadelphia's
not gonna go away. You know, Boston thinks they're better.
The Astros think that they're a championship team. A couple
(01:55:11):
teams in the Texas and Seattle both have big hopes.
I mean, the Padres aren't going to just let you
walk through this. I mean the Yankees got their mindset.
The Mets, the guy got their seven hundred and fifty
million reasons why they want to, you know, prove that
they got their guy. So it's all over the place. Man.
But yeah, but the Dodgers lineup. If everything, if everybody
(01:55:34):
played their best baseball, the Dodgers win the division by
ten games. If I'm talking about no injuries, they run
away high. But that's usually not the case, ihinde of
sixty two games. So I think that we'll have the
conversation of there will come a conversation. You're going to
see them the Dodgers will lose three in a row.
What's wrong with the Dodgers? Are they done? Are they
getting too cozy and comfortable? And then they'll win ten
(01:55:57):
straight and everybody say, there's your champions. The hyperbole that
goes with a regular season is pretty crazy over under
for them.
Speaker 4 (01:56:06):
We said last week one hundred and four and a
half wins.
Speaker 5 (01:56:11):
I when's the last time it was said at that
high for a team going into a season. It had
to be it has to be a minute, right, Probably
one of those Yan Yankees, Jeter Veriana Rivera teams probably
probably so I uh, I'm uh yeah. The Dodgers are
clearly the best. With being the best doesn't mean you
(01:56:32):
always play the best, right see, uh, there we go.
We got a call her. What's up?
Speaker 2 (01:56:36):
Brian what's up, guys.
Speaker 18 (01:56:38):
I can't leave family hanging on that color stuff. Man,
how y'all guys doing today?
Speaker 5 (01:56:42):
Good man? What's happening? Hey?
Speaker 18 (01:56:44):
So you got to play. You got to pitch twenty
games to win twenty games. I just don't think he
has twenty games in him. Look, well, he's ready, he's ready,
you know every other year and then what happens.
Speaker 5 (01:56:56):
Brian Broan. We didn't say win twenty games. Wait, I wouldn't.
He'll never win twenty games in a single season in
his career. No, that's never going to happen. Said starts,
never twenty starts twenty years.
Speaker 6 (01:57:11):
I do remember if from the start.
Speaker 5 (01:57:13):
Twenty starts that he'll make And yeah, I'm not sure.
I mean it's it's gonna be hard. I mean, he's
got some work to do to get back to twenty starts,
because that'll mean he's significantly healthy.
Speaker 7 (01:57:25):
You're right, I missed that.
Speaker 18 (01:57:26):
But hey man, the last time we were celebrating Michello's what
do you throw like fifty curved balls in a row,
and you know, struck everybody out and it was great.
He had that big pump up speech. So you know
we're in the playoffs. A couple of years ago. But
you know, he great clubhouse guy. But you know what, sometimes,
hey man, your arm don't hold up. It's time to
hang it up and go ahead and get some money back.
But hey, I appreciate you, guys.
Speaker 5 (01:57:47):
Let me in appreciate anybuddy, Thank you. I should tell
you one thing that's not happening. He ain't nobody giving
money back. But I like his point.
Speaker 4 (01:57:55):
If I'm not mistaken. Was it in twenty twenty two?
Twenty one or twenty two? Lance per Colors got injured
in a locker room celebration. He had a champagne bottle
bang off of his elbow? Oh good gracious, Yeah, because
I was in the clubhouse when he announced it, or
I was in the media room when he announced it
(01:58:16):
and talked, So I had to be twenty one.
Speaker 5 (01:58:19):
I'm sorry, No, twenty two. Maybe that's a little much
for me. Sorry, let me see I can find it
real quick. You know what I'm saying? Dog? That might
that might be a little much for me to swallow.
That didn't sound right? Back it back? What did you
just say? Pause? I didn't mean it like that. Just no, Sorry,
it was in twenty twenty two too, much to stomach
is what I'm yeah, a stomach of like you get
(01:58:42):
you can't. You can't get hurt during a celebration, can you. Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:58:45):
He got hurt during game the following Game three the Alds,
the celebration, champagn bottle off the elbow and he was
pushed back a start in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 5 (01:58:57):
That's right, Champagne to the elbow, to the elbow.
Speaker 4 (01:59:01):
Yeah, come on, yeah, I dropped the boat.
Speaker 5 (01:59:06):
You did not just say that to me, right, No,
it happened, you know, I know, I know, Yeah, I'm
just just the fact that he had to repeat that
he reminded me of it. I completely forgot that that
was something that shelved him for Yeah, he had I'm
not dogging him, but good gracious, he went on, what
are we doing here?
Speaker 4 (01:59:21):
He was ruled out of Game three against the Yankees
in the ALCS that year, and he was pushed back
to Game four.
Speaker 5 (01:59:28):
He played well game.
Speaker 4 (01:59:28):
I'm telling you, hey, look he pitched really well and
they ended up sweeping the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (01:59:32):
They kicked her, no doubt. I'd like to love to
see that back, and I think we all not only uh,
I would love to see it encourage it, anticipate it,
and want it. I don't think there's any question about that.
Let me explain to you something we can discuss this.
I I made a note because I saw this last
night in trying to get ready. Do you realize how
(01:59:56):
many starts? I'm pretty sure see that it's one number
of the other it's within two games. I think it's
twenty eight. How many complete games we had in Major
League baseball last year? Twenty eight that's it in baseball,
one hundred and sixty two games to had what thirty
thirty twenty eight complete games? And please spare me the well, Sean,
(02:00:18):
that's just what goes on now. That's Baseball's changed. It
doesn't mean it's a good thing. And hasn't less than
thirty complete games in baseball?
Speaker 4 (02:00:28):
That's point zero zero five percent if I did that right?
Speaker 5 (02:00:35):
Do it? One hundred and sixty two starts? Yeah, it
dred times thirty teams.
Speaker 4 (02:00:40):
Yeah, it's forty eight, sixty and sixty.
Speaker 5 (02:00:43):
And you had twenty eight of them less than thirty
starts complete games. And you tell me why people question
pitching and how has it changed so much? Listen? Is
it soft selling? These guys are we well, we can.
Let's discuss. Let's discuss. And for those people who were
(02:01:03):
talking about the beards and stuff last week of the Yankees,
back in the day, Lou Panella complained to George Steinbrenner.
He said, hey, man, Jesus Christ had long hair and
a beard, why can't we And Steinbrenner's George Steinbrenner's reply was, yeah,
you see that pond over there, walk across it, and
you can wear your hair and beard as long as
you want. You will walk on water. You see. Panilla
(02:01:25):
would have been smart, you know what he should have done,
Wait until the lake froze over, Yeah, and then walked
across it and said, you didn't say how to get
across it. Wait till the season's right, walk across it
when they're playing hockey on it, and then you go
get it and then grow your hair long and wear
a beard. But back in the day they were even
because they used to complain about it all the time.
But Panilla said that he goes walk across that lake.
You hear beer as long as you want. Great line
by Stein's. Great line.
Speaker 4 (02:01:46):
All right, let's get into the nine o'clock hour. We're
talking about that complete game stuff for Major League Baseball.
Speaker 8 (02:01:51):
Next a Houston at two Houston at the Rockets. Rockets's
good for your home, for your home teams.
Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (02:02:04):
You make Houston sports the number one precept on your
car radio and the new it improved iHeartRadio app free
never sounded so good.
Speaker 1 (02:02:17):
Salisbury, Oldbury, Salsbury Houston.
Speaker 5 (02:02:22):
Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (02:02:23):
Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:02:27):
To usc true longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:02:29):
Ryan Lo Lima, Go Lobos. This is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:02:37):
This afternoon is twelve o five first pitch. Put it
to you that way. Rockets host the Bucks seven o'clock
tip off tonight. Houston beats Texas Tech. They clinch at
least a share of the Big twelve title. Twenty eight
complete games last year in Major League Baseball not not
a lot, man, when you look at how many games
(02:02:57):
are played. Richard once again on this on THEES. Richard,
what's up?
Speaker 20 (02:03:02):
Hey, good morning, Fallas. Are you ready for your old
man yells at clad call in the morning. I'm not
that old, but this is really gonna make me sound
like I am talking about complete games. First thing that
will a couple first things that come to mind. Nolan Ryan,
wasn't that a playoff game where he threw two hundred
(02:03:23):
and eleven pitches?
Speaker 5 (02:03:26):
And eleven? I mean, let me double check that Olan
Ryan has had starts where he came back and threw
two hundred and twenty or something pitches and then came
back the next start, like on a three or four
days rest, and threw over one hundred pitches. He's he's
he's done.
Speaker 20 (02:03:38):
Yes, the one I was thinking and I think it
was a playoff game, but Nolan threw over two hundred pitches.
The other thing comes back from my childhood, which was
not too too long ago, but my old Oiols team
that had four twenty game winners. Okay, so and that
(02:03:59):
was us with the four man rotation. Or Weaver just
said I'm having four starters and I'm gonna roll with it.
So with this four man rotation, all four guys won
more than twenty games. And the stat line that'll make
your eyes pop out is how many complete games those
guys throw. Of those four starters that had twenty or
(02:04:23):
more wins, the fewest complete games any of them throw
was eighteen.
Speaker 5 (02:04:31):
Yeah, and I know you're gonna get the younger. Younger
people are gonna say, well, you know, the game's change
and the way, no, the way we treat them and
soft sell them and baby them is exactly what we're doing.
It's inexcusable to have twenty eight complete games when the guys,
and that may not be just the player, the ownership,
(02:04:51):
the front office, the manager. Baby ah, he hit one
hundred pinches, but his velocity is still the same. He's
still getting people out. Well, we don't want to wear
him out. Oh because twenty starts man alive, twenty two stars, Man,
what a grind? I just listen. It's such as it's
quite frankly borderline pathetic. Now that they're not talented, it's
(02:05:13):
a lot of reasons why they don't do it. I
know the game's changed and we want him to go,
but we are literally crowning people heroes that give you
five and two thirds and they're going good.
Speaker 4 (02:05:24):
Now.
Speaker 5 (02:05:24):
Maybe the manager, maybe the like I said, the front
office that pulls him out. But celebrating twenty eight complete
games is an embarrassment. And I don't know if that's
a managers being too protective or what have you, but
enough when you see it on paper, it's like, this
is ridiculous.
Speaker 20 (02:05:41):
And I'm gonna go back to my old man where
it's here. But I think Tim Palmer led that four
man's staff. I think he had. I think he had
twenty six wins, and I believe he threw thirty four
complete games.
Speaker 5 (02:06:00):
Yeah, well, I know that in the seventies seventy one,
whenever a sixty nine or seventy oriole staff, four dudes
had twenty wins on the same staff.
Speaker 20 (02:06:09):
That's what I said. Yeah, yeah, and that was that
was a four man rotation right right, and all center
of them won twenty games or more, and all four
of them through a minimum of eighteen complete games. So
I don't know, thanke e it what you will just
sharing an old man rat.
Speaker 5 (02:06:28):
That's not an old man rant that that should be
twenty five year olds and twenty two year olds and
eighteen year olds. And the way we treat high school
pictures and college pictures, all of it, that's got it.
That's ridiculous. It's work, pay them more and work them less,
pay them more and work them less. And it's not
just the picture's fault, but it's a way we train them.
We've babied pictures far too long. Dude, we just have
(02:06:52):
and as zero to do with. Well, you're you're older,
that's what you think. No, I actually think a lot
younger when it comes. I like change. I think change
is good. I don't even break happened to do the
same thing the same way all the time. You get
left behind when you do that. But are we serious here?
We literally can watch a picture be dominating a game
and hit one hundred and one pitches and that all
(02:07:13):
of a sudden that becomes the threshold. Gotta get him out. Well,
that's why our guy in the seventh, eighth, and ninth specialized.
Well maybe you're right, but guess what not today, son,
they don't specialize today. Today they're going to sit back
and watch that guy finish because he's going good. I'm
telling you, it's one of my biggest It's in my
(02:07:34):
crawl all the time. And then when you see it
written down almost five thousand games and twenty eight complete starts,
it's an embarrassment for whoever to create the embarrassment. It
is an embarrassment, it really is, because even if it's
not the picture's fault, we look at the picture like, oh,
you're soft which is unfair to the picture. Yet five
(02:07:58):
and two thirdyd, you get to six, dude, and you
are our staff is out of what we are lights out. Yeah,
the seventh eighth guy don't always write do their job
and needs a ninth guy. Well, I mean with my
pictures mowing him down. Yeah, Well, statistics tell us the
same time through analytics, I'm looking at a card. Well,
the third time through he gives up two more hits
(02:08:20):
in that inning than he does in the preview. Yeah,
that maybe this day's different.
Speaker 4 (02:08:25):
That's where I think it is in today's day and age,
that these analytics are so heavy in this excuse me
in this game that managers see on a piece of
paper that all it's the third time through analytics show
that the average goes up from two twenty up to
two thirty five. We gotta get a guy going in
the bullpen. He's only had eighty five pitches, but hey,
seventh any guy, he's ready to go. That's where I
(02:08:47):
think we are so analytically driven. And again, I think
you have to have a good balance of both. I
think you need feel for the game, and I think
you also need to have some analytics. But when you
got a guy that is cruising and he gets the
sixth or seventh inning, you don't need to automatically go
get a guy hot.
Speaker 5 (02:09:04):
In the bullpitch. Oh cool, Well, apparently apparently what a
lot of managers do these days. And I'm I'm, I'm
over it, I am. It's just listen, they're not going good.
They're not going good, and the complete game doesn't mean
isn't the catch all? But it's alarming. Yeah, well that
was then, this is now. You know, certain things that
doesn't have to change if the ball still doesn't wait
(02:09:26):
about the same.
Speaker 4 (02:09:27):
I think there's also something to be said though, with
if you've got a guy in April or May and
he's at ninety five pitches and he just got to
the seventh dude, it's may.
Speaker 5 (02:09:36):
I get that part. But if he's cruising and he's
pitching efficiently and he's getting into the seventh inning, it's
seventy five pitches. That's that's that's eleven. That's eleven pitches
an inning. Well, okay, men mean so so like that's efficient, okay,
but the comparison is so if Derick Henry in September,
(02:09:56):
in September has thirty five carries, but they're up by
a touchdown. Then they need him to close out the game,
has to get to thirty nine carries. Am I supposed
to sit him on the side and say no, I
think let's wait till Sion. I got to get him
to November to really I got to get his ramp up.
Let's be real here. Football players are built different. Okay,
you know what I mean. Then you're just validating my point.
(02:10:17):
I know that's what I'm trying to do. You're validating,
You're validating my point. They're built different, right, But my
point is so if Jacob deGrom he has got a two
hitter in the seventh inning and he's at ninety four
pitches in, may not me he's out, but they will
pull him. Oh how many times we see it? You
know what? You know what the phrase I'm so tired
the two words I'm so tired here ramp up? Yeah,
(02:10:39):
you had to what we do in off season. Spring
training is not a time to get in shape. If
you're a guy that comes to spring training to get
in shape, you will get hurt by the time the
season is over and you are leaving, and that's you.
You are a major disappointment and a letdown behind. Yes, yeah,
you should come in like spring training's opening day. That's
a and all that is is a tune up to
get yourself rehearsals. It's just dress rehearsals. If I got
(02:11:03):
to get you in shape, you're a turd. You're a friend. Now,
if you had off season surgery and we're rehabbing, it's
still different story. But if you re out you're ready
to go. Come in a spring fannis go. You're a
friggin turd. If you show up out of shape, it's
not only disrespect to you and the organization. You're basically
looking at your teammates and saying, you, guys, aren't that
important to me. But I'll tell you what. Now, go
(02:11:24):
to him and say, if you show up out of shape,
I'm taking one hundred thousand dollars off your base salary
and watch those suckers get their ass in shape. They'll
be ready to go. Yeah, don't take but one and
all one and all one at all. But don't you
dare take anything from me? How dare you?
Speaker 4 (02:11:36):
How many times do we see early in the season
a guy going for a no hitter or he's got
a no hit through the seventh into the eighth and
they pull him.
Speaker 5 (02:11:46):
We see it every year. Damn near guy's got a
one hitter.
Speaker 4 (02:11:49):
Nah, it's April got a longevity, man longevity. And I
think it goes deeper too, Like we've talked about this,
it goes deeper into into the youth baseball circle with
these kids throwing hundreds of pitches a weekend and coaches
pitching them, parents not having any feel. And then it
trickles on up into uh into arm injuries in high school,
(02:12:09):
and then you got arm injuries in college, and then
everyone's gets really worried about armors, your injuries as we go,
and then you see that it's it's these these professional
athletes get babied with these arm injuries. I think that's
where it starts, as I think it's. I think that's
where it starts for me. And then you then you
add in the analytical standpoint. Managers aren't gonna throw their
guys more than six or seven innings unless they're unless
(02:12:32):
they're they're just in freaking Ertlander, And it tells you, hey,
I'm staying the f out there, get off my mound.
That's and and it I hate analytics. I've said it
a thousand times. I can't stand it. I think the
analytics are overrated and all that. I think there's a
need for them.
Speaker 5 (02:12:45):
Yeah. Same, But I don't think if, if, if I'm
making all my decisions based on analytics, you're gonna miss
out on a lot of good stuff in life. Imagine
a playing analytics to everything you do in your life.
I can't. That's not that's not really imagine planning. I
wouldn't do it. Your life would suck. It would suck.
I hate it. Off read off a car to when
you're supposed to listen bitches. When it's eight o'clock and
I'm hungry, I'll eat even if I ate at six.
Speaker 4 (02:13:05):
Yeah, does that make sense? Yeah, I'm not not doing
it nice. Twenty eight Complete Games July fourteenth, nineteen seventy four.
Nolan Ryan threw two hundred and thirty five pitches.
Speaker 5 (02:13:16):
Now look at his next start.
Speaker 4 (02:13:17):
Yeah, he turned around, threw over one hundred.
Speaker 5 (02:13:19):
And I think on on less than five days rescue.
Speaker 4 (02:13:22):
He struck out nineteen in that game.
Speaker 5 (02:13:24):
Well, times have changed. Oh so, yeah, you're right. Times
have changed. The workouts, the medicine, the facilities, the money, everything,
the nutritionness. These guys have more access to the greatest
to everything. AI to tell you what you're supposed to
do in a workout. The workout back then was grab
(02:13:46):
a couple of beers. Nolan Ryan would get on a
bike and pedal in the postgame press conference and throw
a football between starts. That was the extent of their grind.
And you know what, could actually pitch after a little
bit of a hangover. Yeah, a hangover. Now keep a
guy out five days. So what happened? We're the DNA change.
It's who manufactured that? You should have? Matter of fact,
(02:14:08):
we should be saying, shouldn't our pitchers be pitching the
longer in their careers? More innings in their careers? More?
Should should shouldn't aren't they strong enough and have all
this access to do things far? Hey we're running marathons
and in what two hours? Yeah? Yeah, this is They've
got such a special Why isn't pitchers, well, why can't
they go longer? Are you a guy?
Speaker 4 (02:14:29):
Are you a guy that like, let's take uh, let's
say you're training a seventh grade quarterback. Are you a
quarterback instructor that would encourage that player to stick to
one sport or go play multiple sports.
Speaker 5 (02:14:43):
He's playing every sport, so he learns how to be
competitive and also learns how to take it if he's
not the best in every sport, how to be a
better teammate, hand eye coordination, everything. Matter of fact, you're
like me, I'm more often if you bring me two quarterbacks,
everything the same, everything the same grades, height, DNA, parents
are great. I'm talking about ever arm strength, did the
(02:15:03):
IQ football? Like you and one plays two sports, in
the other three sports in the other place. One give
me the give me the guy who's playing more sports.
I'll lean towards him first.
Speaker 4 (02:15:11):
So you're like, so that I have the same mindset,
and it goes into this whole thing. I'm not making
excuses for baseball players, but these kids these days play
baseball year round. They don't take breaks, they don't play
other sports no one. Ryan in his documentary said, Man,
when I was growing up, I was still a kid.
I didn't play year round like these kids these days.
(02:15:32):
It goes into what the hell these dumb ass youth
coaches are doing to younger kids. That's why you see
more arm injuries, and that's why it trickles up to
where you don't see this. You see almost two was
dropped the up bump. You see only twenty eight complete games.
Speaker 5 (02:15:44):
What do we doing? And it's it's a money grabbing,
a lot of cases of money grack. Eighty five percent
of it. You'll get about fifteen or twenty percent that
are actually in it for the kid and to do right.
And secondly is and then I'm not like I said,
you bring your kid to me. He ain' getting baby right.
You can do that at home, and you can soft
sell anything you want. I'm going to encourage. I'm a
self esteem builder. I'm a self esteem builder, but I'm
(02:16:04):
a truth teller. Okay that in real life. Like I said,
I had a family come to me at a camp
that I trained their kid and coached him throughout the camp,
and they wanted to know when the camp was over.
If he's a Division one prospect. He was five, about
five to eight, seventh grader. He asked, is the a
division one prospect? I said, if I tell you that,
you should never work with me again, and if anybody's
(02:16:25):
telling you that your best thing you do if you're
a fire him and move on to somebody else. But
that exists every single parent out there. That's not fair.
A lot of parents out there think that their kid
that Peyton Manning's every one of now that the aspiration
to be Peyton Manning is great. Every kid's not division one.
Every kid's built different, and I don't train every kid
the same. Some kids are just built different and need
(02:16:47):
mechanical club. I mean, if that goes back to analytics,
every the mechanics, I'm firm believer that good mechanics should
be in everybody's repertoire. But what a kid responds to shouldn't.
I know one kid that, I mean, I got more
than one that likes to be once you to coach
him hard. Other ones are a little more sensitive. I
get that, But when it comes to the truth, you're
(02:17:09):
gonna have when it comes to evaluation, I'm not telling
these parents, you don't pay me to lie to you. Yeah,
and if you do, then if you do, you're awfully
dumb for paying that kind of money to get lied to.
And there's plenty of them that will do that for you.
So you're you are exactly one hundred percent correct. We
do that, we bathe him, then the money grab, and
then all of a sudden, oh, and it's the coach
his fault if the kid's not playing. See, oh, well
(02:17:30):
you know what they ain't Listen, I'm not dumb enough
to not play my best players. I'm going to coach
them all. This all hard, but I'm playing my best
nine ye right, exactly. And if your kid's the fifteenth
best player, he may have to be learn he has
to get better. How to get better? Because oh you
mean he's got to go through some adversity and you're
(02:17:50):
trying to protect him from protect him is one thing
completely shelter them from it. They've got no shot in life?
Then none.
Speaker 4 (02:17:58):
Nope, we'll continue his discussion next stuck seven a height.
Speaker 5 (02:18:00):
Hey guys, let's talk Trajan Wealth, speaking of somebody who's

How many people do you think have gone into retirement
had time in About three years into retirement, came back
and said, oh, I may have time, but guess what,
I ain't got any of my retirement money. I had
to spend more than I thought. I'm living longer than
I thought. I didn't prepare for the risk tolerance. I
(02:18:42):
didn't do anything with my four oh one k rollover.
I didn't listen. I started late, which is okay, but
I didn't get with a wealth advisor of financial fiduciary

what are we doing here? Doing it on your owns?
Fine and Danny, but if you have somebody who's an
expert at it, wouldn't you want your your retirement. Everybody's

Speaker 9 (02:20:05):
Let's go on.
Speaker 2 (02:20:05):
This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:20:09):
Also, we got to get the break here in about
three minutes, so if you are still on hold after,
we'll get to you the next break. Start with John.
Speaker 5 (02:20:14):
What's up John? Hey guys?
Speaker 21 (02:20:16):
Yeah, good, good conversation. Uh yeah, I think it's too specialized,
too babied. And you know the metrics, but yeah, I
mean back in my day, you know, I played three sports,
and I could have gone to smaller colleges and like
football and basketball, but I chose baseball because I got
the scholarship to the university. And you just don't see
that now, like you were saying, Brian, you just you
(02:20:37):
just don't And and you know, I think that they
don't put enough emphasis on the importance of keeping your
legs strong. I mean, I used to run like, you know,
three to five miles a day when I was pitching,
and and you know, pitching is like ninety percent in
the legs. When the legs go, then you're throwing more
with your arm, and that's when you're developing arm problems.
And that's what I'm seeing a lot in some of
(02:20:58):
these pitchers now, bets are they're just getting tired too quickly.
And I don't think they emphasize the importance of the
running and you know, the leg strength enough and and uh,
I don't know what else they have him do, but
it just it just seems obvious to me that their
legs go and and that's what leading to uh more
of these problems and so uh but yeah, I just
(02:21:18):
wanted to I just wanted to chime in on that
because I I, uh, I think that you know, and
remember you remember Brian like uh, you know, on the metrics.
That's what costs us the World Series against Washington. When
Granky was pitching the game of his life, he gave
up a home run. You know, Hinch pulled him. And
I was going crazy when he did that because you
put in the reliever and of course he got shelled.
Speaker 5 (02:21:38):
But Greanky was doing great. I mean, he just threw
one bad pitch.
Speaker 4 (02:21:44):
I was in the ballparks for that. And I remember
when when Hinch walked out us at all. No, he's
not going to take him out, is he? And he
did and he did the rest of his history, you know.
Speaker 21 (02:21:53):
Yeah, yeah, I mean that that just totally man. I
was just it just blew me up. So, uh, I
just wanted to chime in a good, you know, a
good conversation. I mean, I just think that these guys
are just not in shape like they should be. I mean,
no one, Ryan, he had these massive legs, you know,
and that's where you know, that was part of the
reason I had that fastball. I mean, you get that
(02:22:14):
push off off the rubber and that helps, you know,
and these guys think they would go like nine ten I.
Speaker 4 (02:22:19):
Means, yeah, it just you think he had a nice
body or what?
Speaker 5 (02:22:22):
John, what's that?
Speaker 4 (02:22:24):
You think he had a nice body or what?
Speaker 5 (02:22:28):
What?
Speaker 6 (02:22:28):
Man?
Speaker 5 (02:22:30):
Well, look at all those guys, I mean, and.
Speaker 4 (02:22:33):
You think and they had good bodies and Ryan good
lower half? Yeah yeah, yeah you got lower half.
Speaker 21 (02:22:38):
Yeah, they were strong. You know, they did their running.
Speaker 5 (02:22:40):
You'd see it before the King and all that.
Speaker 21 (02:22:42):
I mean, yeah, running the stairs.
Speaker 5 (02:22:44):
Yeah yeah, another like a thick lower half of my
favorite picture. There you go, appreciated. John. Hey, I will
say this, they used to train pictures to go ten, right,
you know what? They trained him now six? But Max,
if they trained the pitch training, you could tell me
all you want. They're not training for nine innings. They
are not. They're training to ramp it up and get
(02:23:06):
the most out of them if you get the I
actually think that some people do some pictures when the
when the manager sends them out for a seventh inning,
are shocked and are almost expect to be pulled out,
no matter how good they're going going into the seventh inning.
I do not believe by for one second that the
majority of pitchers trained for nine innings and complete games.
(02:23:27):
I think they train to get through the win, meaning
get through five. You get to that point, gotcha, buddy?
Was it five and two thirds? Qualify you that it
is five and a third? Five? I think you got
to get through five or get to five. I think
you got to get through five. That doesn't change, right, right,
that's a quality start, get through five innings. I think
they trained to get through the win, not to get
(02:23:48):
the win. If you know what I mean, Yeah, I
get through I and every single everything we do in
society says I mean for pro athletes says they should
be a quick to go far more yep. As a pose,
it goes to show you so all. So basically we're
telling me all the modern medicine equipment and training gadgets
and all the the insight guys spending one hundreds and
(02:24:10):
hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on nutrition, all
that really doesn't mean a hill of beans. You should
train like like the old school guys did. Work out
push ups and sit ups, train your arm for for
ten innings and go pitch. Is that is that what
you're telling me? So all this stuff get back to
the old push ups, sit up, and pull up routine.
(02:24:30):
Is that? Is that where we're at now? Stop it? Yeah,
one hundred meter sprinter doesn't train to run eighty meters. No,
a marathon runner doesn't train to finish a half marathon.
But pitchers are trained now to pitch half a game.
Speaker 4 (02:24:44):
Yeah, get through five man, seven, one, three, five, seven,
ninety Fellows, if you're on hole, we're gonna get to
you next and continue this discussion right here on sports
Stock seven to eighty.
Speaker 8 (02:24:54):
We're the Shawn Salisbury Show. Continued Ronnie, you're up first.
Speaker 14 (02:25:01):
Good morning, guys. I remember, of course, I was a
kid when Larry Dirker came up and pitched on his
eighteenth birthday in the big leagues, struck out in May's
and mccubby. But I'd love for you to maybe get
a hold of him, but I guess he's still alive
and talk to him about this whole idea.
Speaker 2 (02:25:21):
He pitched a lot.
Speaker 14 (02:25:22):
Of complete games, not when he was young. They limited
him until they were sure that he had reached his
full physical growth. But I'm wondering with some of these
is it the types of pitchers these guys are asked
to throw that limits what the management and trainers and
all want them to do. Or is it just they're
(02:25:43):
not as competitive because they're already going to get paid,
So what are they worried about. I remember a game
when one Marischal pitched against Warren Spahn, Warren Spawnie's last
year in the big leagues, and they locked up in
a fifteen inning double shutout, and Alvin Dark asked Marischal,
(02:26:05):
how do you feel? Do you want to come out.
Speaker 3 (02:26:06):
Of the game?
Speaker 14 (02:26:07):
And he said, as long as that old man's out
there pitching, I'm pitching.
Speaker 2 (02:26:11):
You know.
Speaker 14 (02:26:12):
I just I don't know how competitive these guys are.
And look at Sandy Kofax. He pitched with an arthritic
elbow and shoulder and he still went. I don't know
how many complete games he threw in his last year.
But I just I don't know about the competitive nature
of the guys, of the people who are playing the game.
Speaker 5 (02:26:30):
And Ronnie make thanks for the call, make no mistake,
that's a great word competitive and then the two words
of competitive nature for some. And there's no blanket statement
on old school or new school. Some you bring with you.
We got to discern in our lives in sports and
everything you do, whatever it is in your life, what
is all of us, what we need to leave behind
(02:26:53):
and what we need to bring with us? And when
it comes to this narrative of and your spot on, Ronnie, okay,
you do tell me this. And Ronnie's right. And by
the way, yes, Larry Derker is alive and well and
doing well and would have a great information. Right, Larry's
doing great. When Ronnie asked the question, hey, uh, is
(02:27:16):
it the pitches they're asking to throw these guys? That
just goes to show you you can still throw nine
and get people out. If you can throw strikes, you
don't have to overpower everybody. But so what what's what?
What pitches are different? Oh? The spin rate of the ball?
What pitch did they did Nolan Ran throw a curveball?
I think so? Yeah? Watch go back and look at
some behind the catcher and or behind the pitcher of
(02:27:36):
Nolan Ryan or Bert Blylevin's curveball or Smoltz even in
his day. I know, we got eight different names for
a slider now, slider, sweeper. The difference between a curve
and a slider at times is minuscule. Oh, we got
the you know, we got the splitter, so so, so
what's different? Sometimes the grip is different, right, But a
(02:27:56):
two seam fastball when I was pitching, was a two
seamed fastball. A forcing fastball was a foresinger. Uh. You
know what, we back then in Little League were worried
about throwing curveballs because of the elbow and you weren't
mature enough at ten all this stuff to get it
stronger and the joints and the tendons around it stronger. Well,
(02:28:17):
it ought to tell you how strong are the joints
and tenants after Tommy John. That's why guys still harder,
tightly wound. I get it. But my point is is
what are we doing different on the pitches? What is
your Probably is my palmball change up that falls off
the table a lot different on the arm and elbow.
And not saying for Ronnie, but he makes this extremely
valid point. Is your circle change really different than my
(02:28:39):
palmball on the elbow? Brand maybe you're snapping your curve
off a little more, but you want to talk. There
were some big ass hooks back in the day where
they could throw. I mean it was big. So in
order to do that, you got to increase spin rate.
And your grip, and you got to do it and
you got to put a lot of torque on that
part of the of the arm. Trust me, I know
I lived it, still living it and training quarterbacks. The
(02:29:00):
ball is still the same. I believe length and width
of an NFL ball still the same as it was
when I was training at ten. Yeah. So for me, nah,
it ain't the pitches they're throwing. It's how they're getting
to those pitches and their competitive nature and how we're
babym to train for six innings or five and two
thirds then nine. Their arms just can't hold up. They
(02:29:24):
are fatigued because of the way they train them, not
because they throw more circle changes than the pomb ball
that was a or that Roger Clemens threw more splitters
on his than the way he gripped it than somebody
else does. Tork's torque, buddy, And I know when you
ramp it up. And the problem is we're trying to
get every guy and these kids go go watch a
training video and they're taking fourteen croll hops as a
(02:29:47):
pitcher and throwing it from eight feet into a netting
and hoping that it says ninety five. And everybody in
the backgrounds cheering and go. And that's great, it's a
great ego. But if that is how you're training every day,
you got it. In order to throw it hard, you
gotta throw it hard. But let's face facts. We're not trading.
(02:30:08):
We're not training a lot of kids to be pictures.
We're training to be throwers. Yeah, and there's a big difference.
There is a huge difference, huge difference. Let's get to
Joseph real quick.
Speaker 4 (02:30:15):
Joseph, I got thirty seconds for you.
Speaker 20 (02:30:18):
I won't be alone, trust me.
Speaker 4 (02:30:20):
I just misunderstanding.
Speaker 20 (02:30:22):
Yes, the pet pitch.
Speaker 5 (02:30:24):
A long time off ahead more time.
Speaker 20 (02:30:27):
Are you sure this pitch clucking? You got something to
do with that?
Speaker 5 (02:30:30):
That will be dad, Thank you, Joseph. Well, long before
pitchclock we were having guys go five and two thirds innings?
How long is pitchclock made in now? Two years? A
couple of years. Yeah, I get what he's saying. It
has changed something. I know some pictures that like it
because they don't get the thinking between their ears. They're
not taking more time to think about it. I've talked
to them. I get it out. As a matter of fact,
it doesn't bother me. It doesn't bother them because they
(02:30:51):
do it for some they're mechanical, and they're methodical in
the way they go back and really, uh, they want
every to use every ounce of I get it, and
yes it disrupted sums flow, but I don't think two
extra seconds in between pitchers is the difference. Because we
were having arm problems and innings and complete game problems
(02:31:12):
in twenty ten, in twenty fifteen, in twenty seventy before
we implemented this, is it a change? Yes? Do I
believe the pitchclock is the very reason guys are blowing
out their arm. We were getting a lot of Tommy
John surgeries before the pitchclock, Brian, Yeah, so everything has
its everything has an impact. Pitchclock ain't the biggest reason
(02:31:33):
why guys are going five and two thirds innings if
they're lucky. Okay, twenty eight complete games and almost five
thousand starts in twenty twenty four, crazy man. Yeah, and
we're trying and we're doing it the right way. Huh. Same,
I got your specialization.
Speaker 4 (02:31:48):
Yeah, seven one, three, two, two, five, seven NINEY got
a couple guys to end up the uh to end
the show next on sport Stock seven ninety.
Speaker 14 (02:31:56):
Three, one win.
Speaker 8 (02:31:58):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven, Tony, good morning, Good morning guys.
Speaker 6 (02:32:04):
As far as the pitcher is sticking.
Speaker 10 (02:32:05):
Around, I'm glad that guy brought up Larry Derker, because
when Derker took over the Astros in ninety seven, he
made it a point early on to extend his pictures.
Speaker 9 (02:32:17):
He got.
Speaker 10 (02:32:17):
He got them to have a mindset that, hey, I'm
not gonna come get you every time you get in trouble.
I'm gonna let you work yourself through it early in
the season. So as the season progressed, they built up
their arm strengths, and they expected to go longer. I
don't know that that's gonna change, but I do know
what's gonna change in baseball, and that's running the bases
and playing defense. They're they're gonna start starting to draft
(02:32:39):
different types of players. And I'll give you an example,
this catcher that we drafted. I'm high on this catcher.
Speaker 13 (02:32:45):
Man.
Speaker 10 (02:32:45):
I know he's a young kid, walker Yannick, but he's
an athletic kid.
Speaker 4 (02:32:51):
He can run, he can.
Speaker 10 (02:32:52):
Throw, he can he can block. And as soon as
the Major League Baseball comes to their senses and says,
you know what, all this stuff about going with the
Allen system and all that.
Speaker 5 (02:33:01):
Throw that out the window.
Speaker 10 (02:33:02):
We're going strictly to the A B S. You're pitching
to it to to a to a strike zone, all right,
We're not.
Speaker 12 (02:33:09):
They're not.
Speaker 5 (02:33:09):
There's gonna be a bunch of argument stuff.
Speaker 10 (02:33:12):
And catchers will not have to frame, they won't have
to catch on one leg. They can catch in a
position where they can move and block and throw. The
game is changing, The game is evolving, and it's gonna
take a while for everything to catch up. But baseball
is getting better. They figured there was a problem and
they've addressed it. The rules changed since they since they
got rid of the shift. Sucker hucker hit into so
(02:33:36):
many ground balls into into shallow right field.
Speaker 5 (02:33:38):
That can't they can't do that anymore. So those holes
are opening up.
Speaker 10 (02:33:41):
The hitters are changing their approach and they're drafting different
types of hitters, the big long ball guys, they're they're dinosaurs, man,
They're they're gonna they're fixing the extinct.
Speaker 5 (02:33:51):
And I tell you this, Tony, baseball is better. Pitching
is not.
Speaker 10 (02:33:56):
Pitching needs that's that's the thing that needs to catch up. Yeah,
and it it really does it and it's it's all
the mindset. I don't think they're I think these guys
are just as good as shape as they've always been.
Speaker 5 (02:34:06):
I think it's a better shape, better shape. Agreed, they
should be. They got all the I never played with
a guy in the eighties that spent two hundred thousand
dollars on a nutritionists. They do it. That's a regular
occurrence these days. Personal chefs that that every gym equipment,
you know, all that stuff that those that's not how
they trained. I can tell you that I watched guys
I lived at even and before us, right, but it's
(02:34:28):
not it's not they're not athletic and stronger. They got everything.
You You can punch a number into computer and AI
is going to tell you exactly what you need to
do for twenty four straight hours. Right, That's just the
way it is. They didn't have that back then. So
you're exactly right, And it is it's from the from
those shoulders up, brother, And it's a gut wrenching competitive
nature of mindset one hundred and how you train them
(02:34:51):
from from the how you train them also adds to
the mindset. You are one hundred percent correct.
Speaker 10 (02:34:57):
I believe that I'm also believe that film that brought
up twenty nineteen. Thanks for bringing that up. Grinky Grinky
should have stayed in that ball game. And then also,
if aj Hitch has one regret in his career, it's
letting it. It's letting Cole sit down in the bullpen
with his spikes on and not bringing him in that
ball game. We didn't have anybody else man, he was
all we had, and he left him down there trying,
(02:35:18):
I don't know, trying to protect him for to be
a free agent.
Speaker 5 (02:35:23):
You know that that that costs us another ring.
Speaker 10 (02:35:25):
But that's neither here nor there.
Speaker 5 (02:35:26):
That's that's that's water.
Speaker 10 (02:35:27):
Under the bridge. Baseball is getting better, guys. It's getting better,
Brian can tell you that. And it's gonna start filtering
down to where Brian's coaching. It all starts at the
big league level. It's gonna start filtering down. We're gonna
get better defensively. We just got to bring the pitching up.
We're pitching level up and baseball's gonna be better for it.
Speaker 4 (02:35:43):
Appreciate you, tony 's see if we can get to
one more.
Speaker 5 (02:35:46):
What's up, Larry?
Speaker 2 (02:35:48):
What's going on?
Speaker 9 (02:35:49):
Beleema Son? How y'all doing today, Man, I hope everything
is well with you, boy.
Speaker 5 (02:35:53):
Oh good, thank you, Larry.
Speaker 9 (02:35:55):
Hey. You know I'm I'm gonna take a minute, man,
and I just want.
Speaker 5 (02:35:58):
You guys to just bear with me. Man.
Speaker 9 (02:36:03):
I think we're all starting to realize that we're living
in some alternate universe or something, or we're winning some
simulation or something, because the only difference and the only
thing that should always matter is putting in the work
that has never changed. You work your ass off to
(02:36:25):
become what you are supposed to be.
Speaker 5 (02:36:27):
And so when we look at.
Speaker 9 (02:36:29):
These these travel teams and these AAU teams and all
these other stuff that are all about just ripping people
off with money and trying to give them these false hopes,
you don't ever see them really truly developing players. It's
all about just throwing kids out there and letting their
parents get some videos and go out there and try
(02:36:51):
to see who's gonna be the hot dog in a
game or whatever.
Speaker 5 (02:36:55):
Let's say something to y'all.
Speaker 9 (02:36:58):
When I was living in the Aristocrat Houston with my
single mom, I would be out on a basketball court
for hours and hours, and I'd be out there playing
with my boys. Man, just trying to work and get
my game better. And then when they was time to
play baseball, I'd get out there and I'd run the
fence lines and I'd get out there and do some
updowns or whatever and just try to make sure I'm
(02:37:20):
as strong as I possibly could be.
Speaker 7 (02:37:24):
But then when it was time.
Speaker 9 (02:37:25):
To go home, I would pull open the refrigerator. That
may have been a Maloney sandwich in there, that may
have been maybe just a little bit of rice and
beans left in there, or something for me to eat
because I got home after you know, the hours or whatever,
and my mom would leave me something in there, just
to put something in my stomach. And then I would
get up the next day and start that whole process
(02:37:47):
over again. And so what really frustrates me is this
that has never changed. That has allowed me to have
the life that I lived and that I've given my family.
But I have a son now that is not getting
those opportunities because these coaches out there are missing out.
Speaker 5 (02:38:04):
On these kids.
Speaker 9 (02:38:04):
My son is a six or four left handed pitcher,
and I can't get a coach to call him back,
and he's over there. You would make that a good student.
It's all about what's going on in this world shown
in AH.
Speaker 5 (02:38:15):
Thank you Larry Clary. Always appreciate your passion. Man, no doubt.
There we go. Put the work in, put the work in,
Baby it or done. It's gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (02:38:26):
See those Astros can get a win the day, Big time,
Big Time Spring training game. Rockets are back in action.
All they are, they all matter. He and Sean Salisbury.
Manuel Moore is our producer, Ian Brian Lilima. Thank you
for listening. We're back tomorrow morning at six a m.
Don't go anywhere. Matt Thomas Show with Ross's next right here.
Speaker 5 (02:38:44):
