Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsby. Okay, let's do this.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Sean Salisbury, there to usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sean Salsbury Show.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
He's Sean, Dean Matthews, Triple E, Emmanuel Elmore. We had
a little bit more energy today, I think after that
Rocket scheme last night, we're feeling good.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
We're firing, we're ready to go. Speak for yourself. I
had energy yesterday. You did. He's a Monday dude, Monday's
he got so much stuff come out of the weekend.
You brought.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
You brought the juice. I mean, hey, look, it's sometimes
the Juice Crew. It's kind of like what Dylan Brooks
says and now the Rockets use it in the TV promo.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Some days it's you, some days it's me. But Sean,
it's always us.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
It got to be. That's God to be. What's happening, man,
I'm good, man, I'm good. A little bit of green
beer yesterday. I you know, I really leaned in the
full Irish Fair yesterday for lunch. Didn't eat breakfast, kind
of do the intermittent fasting thing every once in a while.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
So I went a Reuben delicious. It was good.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
And then last night I went out to a place
up near us and I saw they had fish and
chips along with the green beer, and I said, well,
I gotta do it.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
You have to. That's it, you have to. It's it's
uh I did it on the weekend. Not yes, I
stayed too much going on Yesterday's but I stayed home.
But yeah, you got you gotta somehow. If the green beer,
if it's not corned beef and cabbage, it's in Reuben.
That's that's that's close enough. I love bangers and masks.
Who doesn't like to Who doesn't like a banger? I
mean everybody does. You don't have red blood coursing through
(01:38):
those veins if you don't. If you don't like a banger,
then forget the mash. You know what I'm saying. So yeah, no,
I good good underrated holiday, Yeah I do. I think
it's another And now it's an excuse to like I said,
on it's on Monday, it's an excuse to drink Friday,
Saturday and Saturday right and then uh on because you're
Friday going in Saturday, the parades and all the stuff
(01:58):
like up in Lower Greenville and Dolly hit, and then
Sunday you're still saying, well, it's a tweener and it's
a Sunday fun day, and then all of a sudden,
Monday hits and that's the true day. So it's really
a four day fest. And you could pick any of
those days to do the green beer and the rest
of it, which usually falls on that Monday, like you did.
But yeah, man, you gotta I think it's underrated. I'll
take that over New Year's Eve. I'll take it over
(02:20):
Valentine's Day.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Uh yeah, definitely the second one, for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
I think I think New Year's Eve is our most
Valentine's Days. We've had this conversation out here, Brian and I.
It's a it's a one way holiday. It's not a
lover's all. It's for ladies. And that's fine, you know,
I get it. I understand. I don't care if I
get anything, but you try to do it, and you know, and.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
I don't want anything. Yeah, it's not that's it's not
let's let's not say anything.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, it's not for the gifts, okay, tangible gifts to
the material, right right, yes, But the most overrated holiday
is New Year's Eve. Yes, it's New Year's even, like
all of a sudden, your life's gonna change from eleven o'clock.
Can't you hit the bad all of a sudden. I
mean that you're in the gym and the rest of
your life's changing when you make the resolutions and the
(03:06):
rest of it resolved. It was resolved to not make
it a month, but make it a year, but it is.
And you know, then you're miserable all day. The next
day if you go out drink, you can't get a
drink at a bar. Now, I'm all for having people
over on a new and then if you have dogs,
it's even more miserable because people will it dead at
nine o'clock. It goes till three in the morning, and
(03:27):
your dogs are miserable. And I don't mind the celebration,
but at some point in times like okay, and then
they make it like a four straight days. It's like
it's like a female's birthday month. You get like five
straight days and the dogs every night. It's like, come on, man,
I understand one night, I'll give you that hall pass,
but excuse me. See, even my cough is saying you
(03:48):
don't want to do that. So I guess when you're
twenty one standing in line at a bar on New
Year's Eve eight deep where you get one drink and
it costs seventy four bucks and you get it once
every four hours. Fine, But having people over the house
and doing it that way and you know, cooking up
some vittals or catering it, I'm all for that with friends.
They overrated. I think Saint Patrick's Day highly underrated holiday.
(04:11):
And I think part of that for me is it
signifies that it's March, spring training, Baseball's right around the corner. Yes,
March madness is going on because I love to bet
college hoops and I can't wait till next week, or
when I say next week, till till this week, because
it helped tonight. Yeah, it doesn't start tonight. You and
I both know it. It's Thursday, okay, But at least
(04:31):
it's a hoop, right, at least a little warm up, right,
little little little appetizer, and then we get going. But
I love this whole time, and then spring and flowers
and getting your yard done right, all that stuff, and
I think that's part of the Saint Patrick's Day feel.
From a good weather I kind of like that, and
we did have nice day yesterday.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
And I mean, you know, for everything that you just mentioned,
I mean you were talking about some of the parades.
Just looking on social media, Chicago gets after it, you know,
they the River Green, all of that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Boston.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
I mean, it's pretty much if you're somewhat irish, there
is no better place in the country to be than Boston.
And another thing that I found out about yesterday that
I mean, I knew about hunch punch, I knew about juice,
but have.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
You ever heard of borg b o rg borg.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
No, it's basically the same thing where you use some
sort of either kool Aid or something of the sort
and mix it in with vodka and have it in
a milk jug. And people would just carry that around
a gallon milk jug gallon milk like a handle. Like
almost yeah, like you almost look like a bodybuilder. You
(05:41):
know how you go to a gym sometime and you
see the guy's got the cut.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Off shirt and he's carrying around kettle balls. Right, pretty
much of water, I can't do anymore for the fruit,
fruit juice and fruity drinks an alcoholic beverage to me
like you go to New Orleans and they get that
hurricane one of those, and I'm it's not even the booze,
it's the sugar. I can't do it, man, I just can't.
(06:05):
And I when it comes to like a good bourbon,
you know, Kentucky bourbon, I ain't putting water, no ice,
none of it in it. I don't ruin that drink.
I'm not wasting and I'm sure as hell not wasting
fruity drinks to mess up a good vodkaf that's what
you're gonna do.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Now.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
It's funny you say that about you know, the water,
because I'm not saying drown it out, but like a
splash for something.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Now, if I'm gonna do it like a like just
one nice, big, nice big cube, I can do that
on a hot day. I get it. But I'm mostly
for the most part, if you really want to taste
you know, good whiskey, good bourbon. For me, it's neat
all the time. It's neat, but I do get. But
if you're loading it with fifteen ice cubes and it's
and you're not drinking and you're sipping it, eventually it's
(06:49):
not bourbon, right, it's water and bourbon. It's water with
a splash of bourbon, not the other way around. So
for me and I get why people do it. I
do and and once in a while it's a it's
a good chain jump. But I am not adding coke
now to a whiskey. I'm just not doing it. And
I can't add fruit juice. That's why when I see
people pounding those hurricanes in New Orleans, like, I understand
(07:10):
the boozel knock you, it's senseless, but it's the sugar
and the fruit. Because you're you're a have You're getting
a headache the next day, make no mistake. It's like
all margarita, the margarita, the syrup in the in the margarita.
You're finished, yeah, I mean you you can just forget
about it because that headaches coming with too much of
that syrup or what is that stuff called the margarita
(07:30):
simple syrup that's round right, Yeah, a little bit of
sugar and water right there to make that. As we
said yesterday, the viscosity. It's got a little bit of that. Yeah,
it's the it's the equivalent of the oil viscos. Now,
you don't want to overdo it. Or you blow the engine. Yeah, yeah,
you want to. You want to make sure maintenance is important. Sean.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
That's that's one thing that I think, if nothing else.
And my Jerry Seinfeld moment in dating before obviously I
met a lovely Megan, is that a girl I went
out with once she got a premium bourbon and she
got it with diet and I was like, I can't
do this.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
I cannot get past this.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
So bourba is what ended that relationship, which other things did,
but it didn't hurt.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Give me a great bourbon and then put coke in it? Terrible?
Oh gosh, I don't know how. I mean, I listen,
everybody's got their own gig. That ain't mine. No, that's
not that's not mine.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
So no, right there with you bourbon, coffee, everything else
on taste.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
I mean, you know, a good steak, maybe a little
bit of butter on it. All these people who want
to do all these pepper butter maybe, yeah, butter is
the only X other than that salt pepper grille, and
let's go that's other than that. Other than that, you're
ruining a steak in my mind. Now, some people like
steak sauce. Now if you've got a Salisbury steak and
you want to put gravy on it, have at it.
That's not exactly your grade A top prime b Okay, yeah,
(08:48):
but it's good the Swanson's dinner. I but when it
comes to a steak, salt and pepper and you do
what you want after that. But that's the only way
it's getting cooked.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
I don't need all of these special sauces we've got,
you know, a cream sauce.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
I don't need it for one of your barbecuing ribs.
And you're spreading your rub on there, but not a steak. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Yeah, it's an insult to the chef. You don't want
to insult the chef anytime whatsoever because they're making the
meal and you're nuts.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
My son's a chef now, so I got to watch
everything I do when he's cooking. He's still I'll say
it every time his name comes up, my boy Dylan.
There's nobody I've had a lot of prime rib in
my life. He makes homemade prime riy for us at
Christmas time. I'm telling you, walk into any steakhouse you
want around here, any high end restaurant, they don't. His
prime rib blows theirs away.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
I would say there's three people that it's incredibly ideal
to be either good friends or family with. A chef
is absolutely one of no doubt. A good mechanic, and
a good doctor. Yeah oh yeah, doctor for sure. A
good mechanic. I mean I could do the basic stuff.
When he gets into these guys who can tear an
engine apart and rebuild it, God bless them because that's
patients I do. I admire those guys or a you know,
(09:54):
the basic handy mess up. But the guy who all
of a sudden comes over. My brother and dad were
like this, you know, hey, I gotta I gotta get
the electrician over here.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
What are you trying to do? Well, I got to
wire it to here and here, and I'm not take
me too. I have to read all the instructions on
deep wire and not just the basic. Oh we got this, well,
you got what. My ole man came over once I
was in Connecticut. We were I was working at the
ESPO when I was living there, and he flew in
and my family was with us, and I want to
build a deck. I was going to hire somebody to
(10:25):
build a deck. You know, you can do it, but
I'm the one who look when you go you say
it's home deep, but you say, I need this amount
of wood, right, I need to measure and know my own.
Man goes out there, and I'm sure a lot of
people listen in the same way. He goes out there
and says, I like almost too where there's no leftover
without look gets the eye how big you want it? Okay?
And then you go and you say that, how do
(10:46):
you know this? And by the time that damn thing
was built in about two days at the most. When
you come back and there's like a couple of nails
left and and there's one piece of wood that we
had to cut other than that, it's like I would
have had to measure precisely, you know what I'm saying.
He kind of looks at it eyeballs it. But I
would imagine guys out there that have done it million times,
like people that are putting roofs on or like, oh yeah,
(11:09):
I see that, I'm good and they can almost It's
it's like anything if you're specializing it. You like when
people tell me like a golf shot. Because of football
depth perception as a quarterback, sure, I can tell sometimes
if You're like, it's sixty seventy. I can I said,
with any yard or two without looking at you know,
the rangefinder, I can pretty much tell you how far
it is pretty curse right. And it's the same thing
(11:30):
with people like when you're building a house or how
many two by fours you need or what you need.
My old man, I'm like, Dad, you didn't measure it.
He goes, yeah, I've seen enough of these. So I'm like, Okay,
that's that's the DNA. DNA is there, but that's the
part of the DNA I didn't get.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
That's that that generation, man, I'm telling you, that's that
would can fix anything. Not only that, but also too.
I mean we're talking about steaks and burgers and everything.
Get them well done. You make sure that that that
the grit is put on you. That's what that generation was.
I frigged love it. If I could go back and
learn skill, it'd be like woodworking or how to build,
(12:08):
you know, like to carpentry. And you still can you
can treat classes. Yes, I all honest to God. And
if somebody came to me said I don't want to
drop one hundred grand.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
In school, go to trade school, man, because you know what,
you'll have a job forever, not only that, and especially
right now where you have such a shortage of them
right now, and you'll get paid, Yes, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
I remember somebody even told me that.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
They were like, you know, you look down on some
of these professions and it's like, hey, those those professions
you start pulling out wallets.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
They can outspend you, dude. I hold their jobs in
much higher regards than what we do. It's a lot
harder too, So I'm dead I'm dead serious. I know
it all takes preparation. I look at that. I've literally
thought and I went back and got a master's agree,
but I've literally thought I kind of want to go
even at you know where it's like, Sean, you're not
going to do it, as you know, you're not going
to do it for a living, but it's a good skill.
(12:56):
I want to go and say, Okay, I want to
build a table without real wanted. I've thought about going
back and just doing it. I know you can get
all this online and walk through it, but I just
think it's a great I love that stuff to be
able to do that, and I'm telling you, I hold
those guys in the friggin highest regard.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
It's so much better than going to a place where
then you pull out the little leaflets of here's these nuts,
here's these bolts, here's these washers, and then your entire
weekend is gone. You're building, you're building a small little cabinet. Yeah,
anytime you got these nuts left over? Of course, life's good. Yeah,
I walked, I walked. I don't don't put that on
a tea like that. You caught me leaning over at first,
(13:36):
A shame on me, so caught stealing here at six?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
You got nuts left over, life's good, man. You know
what I'm saying, These nuts? I mean, who doesn't like
these nuts left over after you've But the problem is
you're thinking, I'm not supposed to have like nuts and
bolts left over? Now, you know, maybe one, but it's
not supposed to be something's missing from this Yet every
single one is filled in.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
That one's not so flushed. It's right there, he goes,
good rescue, right there. I thought I was gonna have
to lay out there for a second. I don't want
to walk into another one. I got you, brother, You're
the best. You're the best, all right, so the Rockets,
we'll get into them, Astros, getting into the final week
of spring training, a little bit of Texans news, and
also to some more local baseball news made yesterday. So
(14:18):
we'll do all of that as we just get going
here on a Tuesday edition of The Shawn Salisbury Show.
He's Shawn Triple, Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews, Sports Talk seven nine.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Hey, witsdvision dot com, Doctor Jeff Witz at my eyecare guy,
my LASI guy, who's yours? You got glasses, contacts? You're
tired of him? Listen. They serve their purpose. But have
you ever been like we leave the house and you
forgot your readers, but you got your glasses. You forgot
your glasses, but you got your readers, you forgot your contact.
Hold her and now you're in a hell of a bind. Well,
how about going in and visiting doctor Jeff Witz it
(14:49):
at witsavision dot com payment plan always got great deals
for you, and going in there, let him walk you
through it. It's not invasive when you're sitting on the table.
I know a lot of people think and talk to
people who've been there, who've been to him, who've been
through it. Isn't that your best one? Don't talk to
people who haven't. Go visit the ones who have, like
I have and a few of my friends that I've
(15:10):
sent there to doctor whitst And when you know the
he's going to treat your eyes expertise like he would
his own family. That's where you need to be. You
won't be on the table long. It's non invasive, and
the aftercare is spectacular. I love a guy who At
first I went in there, I'm like, man, what am
I going to do? And by the time doctor whitstt
was done talking with me, I thought, let's get this
done now. He said, well, well we've got to go
(15:31):
through the testing and everything's going to be fine. And
here I am now, and I'm so grateful for him,
and you will be too. If you're questioning if you
should do it or not, I assure you, when you're
done with it, you'll say why didn't I do it? Sooner?
It's wits it Vision dot Com seven one three, three, six, five, nine,
seven nine nine The Very Best seven one three three, six,
five nine, seven nine nine. What are you waiting for?
(15:51):
And if it's a free consultation, If it's free it's
me give me three, but you'll only need one. It's
witsit vision dot com, the best in the business, wits
it Vision dot Com. The Jean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Astro's back in action today West Palm against the Nationals.
Lance McCullers Junior. You're going to get the starting ball,
and our coverage here on Sports Talk seventy nine are
going to get going at four fifty Texans. Of course,
yesterday if you're listening to us, found out about the
Derek Stingley junior contract extension three years ninety eighty nine
of that guaranteed. They also add corner Ronald Darby on
(16:28):
a one year, two point five million dollar contract.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Good sneaky get man. Add some depth to your secondary.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
You absolutely do, and somebody that has a lot of
experience playing in the league. But you know, I mean,
you have Chris Boyd out the door now. As we'll
get in the He's going to come into the conversation
a little bit later on because there's something that I
thought about once I saw that Back to Baseball MLB
season underway in Japan. They're in the top of the
(16:54):
fifth there in Tokyo Cubs and Dodgers Chicago up won nothing.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Yeah, double up the gap to drive in the run
in the third. I think it was for the Cubs.
I was watching. I can't remember the third or fourth,
but doubled in a gap, drove in a run, and
uh Yamamoto starts for them. The Cubs are already in
their bullpen. So Eltani's at the plate now and he's
OH for two. Kyle Tucker's OH for two as well. Yeah,
a little.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
Roller his second base for his second at bats. And
also to Rice Baseball hiring former assistant David Pierce as
their new head coach. And it's not a hey, wait
till the end of the season. He'll just be around.
He's gonna be in uniform on Friday, Boca Raton.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
I love it. And he uh good track rec a
good baseball coach, and he's a good manager. And I
think that's well. I guess we still call college coaches
coaches instead of managers. But that's a good get by them.
And Rice needs Rice needs that should be a better
baseball program. It absolutely should.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
You've got the facilities, you've got the track record, all
of those things, all the great baseball here in the area,
and also family connection with them speaking of coaching brother
in law too one Gary Kubiak.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
There you go. So there's that connection to competitive family stuff.
And back to those Rockets. You know, I think I
never believe one play in a game. I know, Summer Height,
like guy misses a field goal at the ENDCA one
play cost him. But there's a million things that go
on during a game that would have kept you in
or out of that situation. Right hits in baseball, one pitch,
(18:20):
guy hits a home run. You say, all that costs us, Well,
that one play, but did you strand twelve runners before that?
That could have made it a three run different. So
with the Rockets, I always believe there's moments during the
year and what a shock of Tany just drove in
a run? Oh no, what no, Tony, he was a Tommy. Yeah.
Is that there's there's moments during a year in all
(18:43):
sports and it may be and it's moments that you like,
if we'd the if moments, if we'd have done this better,
then that would have been the difference in a game.
And I think there's there's moments during the season where
you go back to when the season's over and you
can even feed off him during the season. But you
go back to those moments when it's over and said six.
In baseball, you know, with a long season, you know
(19:06):
there may be fifteen or sixteen of them, or twenty
of them. In basketball, maybe ten or twelve of them.
There's plenty of moments, but those ones were there staple
moments where you on the negative side said we miss
free throws in this or didn't play defense. It cost
us on the good side last night. When you get
tested and you're on a roll and you're playing great baseball,
it would have been easy Black basketball or baseball or
(19:27):
football would have been easy last night for the Rockets
to say, listen, we've got yeah, pulled the guys, Yeah,
we're the we listen, it's got one home stand. Sure
it was six out of our last sevens, right, But
instead you stay, you grind, and you grind and it
wasn't your best game, but it's sure as hell was
one of those. The resilience to continue to come back
(19:48):
from damn near tripled, you know, damn near thirty down
was a twenty five or twenty six. Yeah, they were
down eighty eight sixty three at one point there. You
go so and to come back and win and push
that game and then find a way to win it.
To me, that's one when they look back. I don't
know how the season's going to end or when it's
going to end, but I can tell you this, they
will look back and hope in the playoffs it lasts long, right,
(20:10):
and the season extends for a long time, they're going
to look back and say, you know, that's right. And
a year from now, when Udoka's showing tape against that
team or saying here's what happened, or in the offseason,
or a week and a half from now saying that's
a staple moment for us, because it really would have
been easy to say, don't extend ourselves, let's let's chalk
this one up. They didn't and neither did he, and
(20:34):
that tells me maturity as well. This will be a
staple moment for them. And I don't believe in game
to game momentum. I believe in game momentum. I do
believe in game to game confidence. And that's one of
those where you say damn, and if you're Udoka, you're
looking at your team saying, now, that's the reason we're
doing this.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
I thought that he was going to pull kind of
what he did against the Golden State Warriors right before
the All Star break, where he called a time out
early in the third quarter, and that to me was signaling, Oh,
here comes Aaron Holiday, here comes Jay Shaun Tate, here
comes whoever else a fish pretty much as a all right,
you guys won't do it. These guys will just like
they did in that game and nearly came back in
(21:13):
that game. Let's hear first from Rockets head coach Emmy Dokas.
So we'll go triple as I told you one through four. Uh,
we'll just go the first one. As I mean, you
talked about the energy that was brought against the Rockets,
and it seemed like the Sixers were kind of bringing
that energy that we are used to and accustomed to
from the Rockets to this team, and Emy Udoka agreed.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
Bringing a little physicality to us defensively, just let them
just follow them around, let them get whatever they wanted.
Pretty much for the first half, got way too comfortable.
A team that you know, has a lot of guys missing, uh,
nothing to lose, and a bunch of guys trying to
take advantage of their opportunity, and they came out with
more urgency and toughness and everything that n'ts in the
(21:57):
first half.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
The Sixers shot about sixty one percent in the first half,
sean they outscored the Rockets by over twenty. The Rockets
gave up a team high seventy eight points in the
first half.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
And I get it for what.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
I just mentioned there with shooting sixty one percent from
the field, that's a little bit of all right, hey,
they're doing this, but it was also where one of
those nights where they're knocking shots down early. Yeah, and
you're not closing out. I mean this the defensive efforts
not there. And not only that, I mean they were
bringing the defensive effort on the other end where you're
just kind of like, am I watching the same team here?
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Like did they switch jerseys?
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Because the Rockets been doing this to other teams, especially
during this six game win streak, And it was just
one of those where it's like, oh, here's those habits again,
here's the stagnant offense, here's the not helping on defense.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Immature. Yeah, young, Well, they didn't make the excuse. Here's
what I love, Like I've always said, I said yesterday, and
I'll say it, defense travels, even though it was at home.
Defense travels because you will always have a chance if
you defend. First half, they didn't defend. They couldn't have
defended you and me and you know sixers were knocking
down shots. But look what happens when you decide you
(23:07):
know what not today, son, and you go out and
play the second half. It's a whole different ballgame. I'm
just telling you and I, as a guy in football
who's an offensive guy, loves points. You can do whatever
you want if you don't get stops and on defensive
you don't get stops on the defensive end and close
out and contest shots, which they weren't doing in the
first half, and get to the backboards. When they changed up,
(23:28):
look what happened and it did. It was almost like
they changed jerseys and flip flopped and bam, they took
care of it. Nobody's ever going to be able to
tell me that that offensive teams come and go defense.
When did the commitment, Because it doesn't take a lot
of talent to play defense. It takes a lot of
effort and attitude. You know, if you can move, if
you can dribble a basketball and do a crossover. On
the offensive end, you can move your feet and play
(23:48):
defense without the ball. I'm telling it's attitude and effort.
That's what it is. Now. If you happen to be
Michael Jordan, you're relentless and you're the best athlete in
the world, and you're committed to defense, well you win
the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. When you get
team defense doing that, good things happen. And you saw
the result.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
You talked about defending me and you I got a
pretty lethal set shot.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
You don't believe me. Ask somebody over the why you
better elevate if you're shooting a set shot.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
There's not a ton of elevation in my shots, so
I definitely try to count on not having that close
out on me.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
That's for sure. All right.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
I heard a little bit from Ima Etoker right there.
We'll continue because I mean, as he ought to do.
The man does not mince words, and he definitely did
not mince words after last night's game. So we'll give
you more of that. Also get into some astros here
as the show goes along.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
We're just getting started here on.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
The Sean Salisbury show, Dan Matthews, Sean Salisbury, himself, Triple
Emmanuel Elmore, Home of the Astros in the Rockets, Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Hey country Boys Roofing. It's a country with a K
Boys with AZ. A proud new member, a proud new
member of the Better Business Bureau. Love it. I'm so
happy for my guy, John Aichman, and he came on
here and we were doing a commercial together. He came
on here, talked about honesty, loyalty, and the ability to
go in and problems solve. You know, that's the problem
(25:07):
solve and takes place in everything you do, whether it's
the top of a roof, whether it's in a house,
whether it's a football or basketball or baseball team. Got
to be able to do that. And I love that
John doesn't price gouge either. If you're a military, you're
a first responder, or you're an educator, you get one
five hundred dollars off the full roof. You go in
there and get your estimate off the full roof. That's
a fifteen hundred dollars discount. You saw the storms that
(25:28):
happened in the South this past weekend. They're still coming.
We haven't even hit that season. Yet imagine what that
does to roofs and how many people need them and
how many would price gouge not John, and you get
a thousand off if you're not one of those, a
discount on a roof, the full roof if you just
mentioned my name. So I love that because that tells
me the truth is they care about you and your safety.
(25:49):
That's who John is and his crew making sure they
go the extra mile to make sure you're safe and
secure and have peace of mind, especially during this type
of season and it's a it can be devastating, whether
it's old roof that needs fixed, whether it's a storm
hitted or whether you're getting out in front of it
before storm hits it. Country Boys Roofing is the place
to go, Better Business Bureau proud member and led by
a guy who cares and they do quite frankly great work.
(26:13):
Isn't that a novel concept? Yeah? Putting the time in
it is Country Boy's Roofing Country with the K Boys
with a Z. And they'll also help you navigate those
insurance claims as well as go anywhere in Houston area
and no job too big or too small. Basically, they
cover the full gamut Countryboys roofingllc dot com. That's Countryboys
Roofing llc dot com. And we've there for the Sean
(26:34):
Salisbury show continues.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
To make sure that they stay on the pitching track.
Spencer Arigedti gonna get some work in that, so probably
the last meaningful work that either of those two will
get for spring. Maybe one more for Lance would be
my guest, Sean, what.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Do we got about ten days left?
Speaker 4 (26:53):
Yeah, We've got a week from Thursday, so we've got
I guess nine days left.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
But yes, in the neighborhood. Yeah, I mean you come
out and get another fifty or sixty pitcher if you
can get the whatever it is. I don't know how
much how far he's going to go today, but at
some point you're gonna have to length. And it's been
two years and I'm with you now. Depending on my
whole thing was not how he goes about it, is
(27:19):
how what's happening during my whole thing is how it
feels after. You know what I'm saying, because when you
haven't done that, the wear and tear absolutely and before
I said, the twenty five pitches is not my I
would think with all the off season work and training
and not pitching for two years that he'll be ready
for that. The question is how quick is the recovery,
(27:40):
you know, between games, and so yeah, I would imagine
you're right, you get one today and then depending maybe
one more decent go and then make your judgment from
there is the end you're starting rotation, you put him
in a bullpen. That's something they're going to have to decide.
I think it's pretty obvious who the first four are, right, Oh, yeah, easily,
it's Fromber right out the gate. As we've found out yesterday.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
It's gonna be Hunter Brown, Renel Blanco, Spencer Raghetti, and.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Then it comes down to him was a nesky from
on the trade part of it? Where are they going there?
So it's an opportunity for Lance to, you know what, post,
and the biggest thing for him is to be able
to post. Yeah, twenty five. It's been a while since
he's had twenty five starts in a States.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Been it's been a hot minute, it has been, for sure,
So he'll get his chance today.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Baseball is underway.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
They are now in the sixth in Japan and the
Dodgers now out to a three to one lead over
the Cubs. So the Major League Baseball season starting up
and the Astros and everybody else will get their chance
next week. We were talking about rocketshead coach imy Doka
after last night's game. We heard from him once talking
about the energy that Nick Nurse's team brought against them.
(28:52):
But another part you were talking about in a bad way,
how people will look at a play and if it
didn't go your way, say, oh, that was a different
games that's why you lost the game. Well you could
probably say that for the Sixers for what the Rockets
did do. So the Rockets down by three with a
few seconds left there in the fourth quarter, and Jabari
Smith Junior gets foulted, goes line makes the first one.
(29:15):
So then emy Udoka signals over to Alprin Shingoon, who
had not played the entire fourth quarter, and Steven Adams,
and we've gotten accustomed to the double big lineup. Well
he puts him in because you know, well there's an
intentional miss that's needed. It was perfectly executed both by
Jabari Smith Junior and also by Alprin Shingoon and emy
(29:36):
Udoka talking about that after the game.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
Obviously put Steven in out be in to get on
the glass, didn't have a timeout, and if we make it,
obviously we got to go full quarter after free throws
whether they make it or missing.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
So you got some big bodies.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
We know we're good at crashing the glass and one
of the best misses I've ever seen as far as
that like, didn't come.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Off hard, nice bounce.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
Obviously did a great job coming in after not playing
a lot of the second half being ready for that.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
They say Johnny on the spot. I think it was
Alpi on the spot last night.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
You gotta love Alpi and just the simple when when
you when you can roll an Alpi out there, life's good.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Except for when he's on roller skates defensively like he
was early on in the game, and that's why he
wasn't playing late.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Well, don't you love that about Udoka? Doesn't that remind
you of a guy who coaches is gonna has a
chance to win a national championship. Doesn't that remind you
about all good coaches that if you don't play both ends,
then I can't have you down the stretch. When our
defensive effort and our defensive commitment the second half was
lights out. First half it was and the next level
(30:38):
the Sheng Gun's game is going to be to get
better there to buy in there, because I think the
guy is a got a chance to be a great player.
He's already really I mean All Star game in the rest.
He's already really good on one side of it. But
the defensive effort commitment, and I love the way Udoka
(30:59):
treated that. We know what he gets and they needed
it and went in there and he did a nice
job at the end and as his career continued to
progress and this season, because there's going to come a
time when you're in one of those games in the playoffs,
you really don't want to have to sit him down, right,
you don't want to, you know, and with no timeouts,
it can't play the old substitution game, right where you
bring him in on one end and sub him on
the other. But his game to get to the next level.
(31:20):
And listen, it's if you can't shoot, that's a hard
fix in your career, right, yeah, I mean it's hard
for a guy who can't shoot to become a Now
you can work on your game, become a better She's
just like an inaccurate quarterback. I can tell you one
thing about Anthony Richardson in Indianapos. He's never going to
lead the league in quarterback rating and passing percentage. He's
just not big plays. But he's always going to yank
(31:41):
one into the ground. May get a little better, he
ain't going up twelve percentage points to lead. He's not
gonna be Drew Brees. You don't all of a sudden
become an accurate passer, that's exactly. And you don't, you know,
if you're an average shooter, it's rare that you become
Steph Curry. Okay. Now on the other side, though, which
you can get great at commitment defense. You can always
better yourself there. And it's something that Shengun who it
(32:04):
feels like we've been saying his name for it while
he's been in the league forever. The guy's in his
early twenties, so he's got some room to grow. But
the message you send early on, that's I think that's
the aside from the fact that the guy is the
hell of a coach, the message Udoka sends to his team,
regardless of your money, regardless of you're playing in an
All Star game, that he treats it like there is
no sacred cows, and I friggin love it. And so
(32:27):
he's got that old school DNA when it comes to that.
You know, we're at a time now we can kind
of do what you want and then if the coach
pulls you out, you're going to argue and bitch and
complain and has to be traded and all that stuff.
This and man, it's there. It's the guy and teaching
the maturity of when I sit you down, it's not personal.
It's just a business decision. We don't have very much
of a chance on the defensive end if you're not
(32:48):
going to take care of your business. And then to
make the switch, and it worked to perfection last night.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
He certainly doesn't mince words. We know that about rockets,
say coach, he made Doka and he's told us, say, look,
if I say a point in comment about the guys,
trust me, it's been a lot worse behind the scenes.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
As it should in a private room. Amen. And that's
the way he handles his business.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
But he also too, if the guys who formerly wore
striped shirts, if they make some questionable calls out there,
like I think we can agree that Courtney Kirkland and
his crew did last night. You had Tarry Easton foll
out of the game. He gets shown in the locker
room early because then he gets a technical and they say,
all right, get out of here. Same deal with Fred
van Vlietz. A flagrant foul and true to form with
(33:29):
Rocket Sead coach imy Joka.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
If he doesn't agree with it, he'll let you know.
Speaker 6 (33:33):
Yeah, he grabbed his arm, but he can hit him
in arm like it's none to the head.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
It's a hard foul flagrant on.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
I mean the three he got fouled on was they
didn't look at that, didn't call it obviously, but that's
more of a flagrant than what he did.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
He run into a guy's legs, run under him.
Speaker 7 (33:48):
They're supposed to check that.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
Obviously, he didn't call it, but I wind up, I
guess he's a flagrant two Nowaday, even if you don't
hit him in the head intentionally grab his arm, yes,
but hell no, that wasn't a flagrant too.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Hell know, that was not a flagrant too, Sean. And
here's the create I love it. Just make sure the
checks in the mail of the NBA, because it's that
might be one though that Tillman says, hey, I got you. Yeah,
it's see, why shouldn't you be able to create your team.
You disagree with it, you don't need to kiss their ass.
They got a job to do. His officials too. I
love it, but I think he knew when he started
(34:21):
to go. It's like, Okay, this may cost me a
buck or two, but I'm going to make sure they know.
And it's also gamesmanship. If that crew you run into
them again down the road, that the good ones know
how to maneuver, say, I'm willing to give a little
up to get a lot return. It's kind of like
Greg Maddox when he said I set up Jeff Bagwell
for that match up later on, and well he got
the better end the second. Pat Riley was an expert
(34:44):
at it now, you know. And even the college rush,
will you work them and work them and work them,
and eventually they get to the point where it's like,
well man, coach, cavesman working be the whole He's gonna
get one late to me. There's a message sent in it.
And it wasn't a derogatory that guy suck where it
was a rant, right, It was just a calm way
to send a message. It's going to cost him a
buck or two. I would imagine maybe in the end,
(35:04):
and maybe not. Maybe they'll say, you know what, that's
okay that we looked at not didn't cross the line.
But they're so sensitive, you know, we got to protect
these officials. But I like it because one way or
the other, you end up winning with it. You won
the game. It may cost you a few bucks, but
in the end, you there's a little gamesmanship and you're
sending a message that they won't forget later on. And
(35:27):
it wasn't one you suck. It was just as simple.
Maybe next time you'll you'll think different about it. And
the good ones know how to work that and know
how to massage that and work that effort with officials.
And it was a brilliant by him and a brilliant
game plan at the end last night.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Well and the team followed him too, because I mean,
an outstanding finished of the game. I think Adam Clanton
threw out on Twitter twenty five to seven finished there
in the late stages, and that's something we hadn't seen
at all times out of the Rockets this season. All right,
coming up next, do you want to get into a
little bit of Astros, the dark horse Astros this year.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
The numbers back it up.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
We'll explain that as we close out the seven o'clock
the Hour. It's Dan Matthews here, Sean Salisbury over there,
Triple E, Emmanuel Elmore even further back right here as
we just get going here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
Hey, sort of pro painters, What do you want from
your painter? What do you want for the people the
company that comes in? First of all, I like the
boutique feel with big, big results because it lets me
know that when they know your name and it's not
just hey, let's get this assembly line paint job done.
What do you want if you're a di wire, I
love it when it comes to painting, and I do
(36:35):
it's a smaller job or what have you. When it's
a job interior, exterior, business or home, I kind of
like to have some of the other stuff freed up
so I can do some other things. And that's where
sort of pro comes in. Each and every store is
individually owned and operated. Every business at sort of pro
and they're local, they're trusted, they're timely, and not only that,
you can go to sert Ofpro dot com for your
(36:55):
free estimate. So when they come into your house, give
you the estimate and you're saying, well, I'm a DI
but you can free yourself up to DIY something else
and a price doesn't kill you, but the quality that
work makes you say wow. That's curt of Pro official
painting partner of the Houston Astros. Again, a boutique feel
for me is big. Why because I want them to
feel like they're doing it, that they're working at their
(37:16):
own home. And boy did they do mine. I was
a customer first. I stress this all the time. Anybody
that's selling you something or telling you to go somewhere
and they don't use the product hogwash. I use what
I'm telling you, and I could. Then there's a reason
why because sort of pros phenomenal. Again, it's sort of
with the c sortopro dot com for your free estimate
(37:36):
Interior X tier. And it's expensive to own a home
in a business, why wouldn't you protect it with the
quality painting a sort of pro painters, whether you're staying
in it, selling in it, or you just like the
ego of it looking good. Sort of pro take care
of it. They did mine and they will yours. Sort
of pro painters. That's painting. Happy boy, You're back. This
is the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 8 (37:56):
Get back at it.
Speaker 4 (37:59):
Major League Baseball season underway over in Japan, the Dodgers
with a three to one lead heading to the top seven.
They're in Tokyo, and the Texans yesterday told yesterday morning
about Derek Stingley Junior his three year extension. They also
add Ronald Darby on a one year, two point five
million dollar contract deal. Sean, the Astros are a dark
(38:21):
horse this season. I think that probably here we can
get on board with that, because, I mean, let's face it,
is this the most talented roster they've had during this
run that started back in twenty fifteen.
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Probably not.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
Do you necessarily think that this is a team that
can run the table, that they can beat the team
that we're watching right now this morning, the Dodgers or
anybody else that comes out of the National League same deal?
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Can they Yeah? In a long series with the way
that all teams being healthy, Well, we're talking about a
different different animal with the Dodgers right now in the
American League. For me, say how dark is the horse?
Is my point in this division to think that they've
some had them as the third best pitching staff. Now
(39:07):
I know the injuries, think about that. I think this
division is gonna will be settled last week. It's a
two or three. Nobody's gonna run away with the last years,
no question about it. So at times you're always the
lead dog. It can be exhausting. And they have been
for what eight years, seven eight years for the most party,
(39:29):
and now here we're setting we're there a little bit
of a dark horse, now a bigger dark horse to
win the whole thing. But I don't think that. I
don't look at them and say to win the division,
they'd have to I still don't. I when we pick
in the next few days the division winners by next week,
you know, and MVP and have that kind of fun,
I will not. I'm not picking the Ashes to win
(39:50):
the division. And it'll be the first time and since
I've been on this show. And it's not because it's
Homer because I don't play that. It's because I don't
feel like right now with some ifs, if some some
pitching staff that we really don't know how the bullpen's
going to set up. In truth, getting to set to
eight and nine. We don't. And you're hoping Hater is
the ninety million dollar guy that's been that guy consistent
(40:14):
all year. He had his ups and downs last year
and still an elite closer. They went and brought him here.
And we know who a bray you is when he's right.
So when Presley, even though he struggled last year, it's
still a loss because Presley is a closure here was
lights out, especially in the postseason. So I trust it.
But they've got to do some maneuvering there. And then
you got to massage the egos of starters that are
going to have to spend some time there. And it
(40:35):
may be a Lance mc colors guy if he's not starting,
may have to start off in the bullpen. So there's
some things that Joe Spott is going to have to
get through. And you're talking about key positions. Who is Paradius.
We're gonna find out Christian Walker has been a real pro,
but it's a new team and he's playing in a
new league this year, right, and then you got to
find out is it a rookie playing right field? And
(40:57):
that man is it's a new left fielder. I know
the face. We know the face and the body. But
it's a new left fielder center fielder, doesn't you know,
if we don't call him Jake and Rake, he's just
he's Jake who plays good defense. So right there you go.
So you start to look around and you say, Okay,
I get why. I get why they're not favorites. Now
(41:18):
in some eyes, some people think they are. So how
dark's the horse? They got dark horse to win the
whole thing. And there's the Dodger. There's two or three
teams to sit up here, and then there's a group
in the middle with this team in the American League
here and in this division. I don't think there's any
doubt that the Astros can hang around with a chance
to win the division. But they're going to have to
(41:38):
stay healthy, and they're going to have to get a
couple career years from other guys to be a World
Series threat. But this team knows how to win, and
so I'm anxious to see. But right now I wouldn't
pick him to win the division. But I'll damn We'll
tell you nobody's running away in this division and hiding.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
I will tell you how dark that horse is. As
we start the seven o'clock hour, and you mentioned something
about the division. Same deal there. We'll carry that over
as we get into the second hour of the show.
You want to get in on the phone lines, do
so seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
Once again, that's seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero. He's Sean Salisbury. I'm Dan Matthews, Triple

Got three more to go.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
We're gonna be the Rockets here, Sean, We're gonna We're
gonna have our strong, strong finish here.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
The problem we're not We're not giving up seventy eight
points in the first time.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
We are not we we are not letting Quinton Grimes
go crazy. But yeah, the Rockets last night one one
thirty seven winners over the Sixers. Says they were down
by as much as twenty five at one point, and
down by what was it nine in the final minute
of the game, and able to get a frcial turnover,
able to get the tip in and win the game.
(43:34):
So seven straight wins for the Rockets. Love to see that. Astros.
After a day off yesterday, they're gonna be back on
the West Palm Beach Cacti Park of the Palm Beaches
Field taking on the Nationals, as we'll have that coverage
starting at four fifty right here on Sports Talk seven
to ninety and Major League Baseball season already underway over
(43:54):
there in Japan and an early three to one at
Dodgers lead right now over the Chicago Cubs in a
game that is now in the bottom of the seventh inning,
And uh, you know, one of the things floating out
out there right now is Astros fans who are up
early watching and seeing Kyle Tucker and an Astros union.
I haven't seen if Ryan Presley has made his way
(44:15):
in yet, but I'm sure that would be another one
that's weird.
Speaker 3 (44:18):
Yeah, oh yeah, of course, and they've been when they've
been in your uniform that long, it's like, this is odd,
but get used to it. That's kind of the way
it is. And in pro sports everywhere now it's it's
it's hard to look at, but it's it's just the
way it's going. We should be used to it. Though.
At this point I would feel like, I mean, we've
seen Carlos Korea in another uniform, We've seen George Springer.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
Obviously, we're getting used to Alexander Lander. Yeah, I mean
for at least once. And don't think we're going to
get a reunion for a third time this year. I think, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
So I'm already used to Bregman in a Red Sox uniform.
Speaker 3 (44:54):
I was gonna say, I think that you'd be okay
with it. There'd be much of an objection there if
he's go leave here, go there. Otherwise they didn't. It's
like it's it's harder. At least he left and went
to a team I could still root for him. So
how dark of a horse are the Astros this year?
So USA Today put now to Power rankings for this
(45:14):
season that are based off of the World Series odds
according to Bett MGM.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
And you mentioned the division. We'll start there first, because
the Astros of the three teams that people believe are
just this ye because I didn't, let look at the
power rankings today.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
Yeah please, I like to do that because I like
to be a little raw and yeah, a raw emotion.
I think they go Seattle Astros, Rangers, but they may
they may even have the Astros through, but I think
I think I think it's probably Seattle as a division winner.
You were correct about Seattle in front of the Rangers.
(45:49):
They are as a matter of fact, they have neck
and neck odds plus twenty five hundred for them, but
the Astros in front of them plus eighteen hundred. So
the eighth best odds according to this and they're in
the dark horse category. The Red Sox is in the
American League. You just eights best, just basically, Yeah, I
actually think that that's to win the World Series? Is
(46:12):
that what we're saying? Eighth best? Yeah, I'd say they're
probably still top ten because of their their ability to pitch,
and and they've still got and they had a pretty
decent offseason.
Speaker 4 (46:23):
I think so the Red Sox in front of them
and also to the Oils. Look, I mean, I'm not
saying this to Stoke egos here, but I am thinking
that this is going to be a Red Sox team
that's pretty darn tough this season.
Speaker 3 (46:36):
Well, they did some stuff this offseason. The Red Sox
biggest problem in the past is pitching holding up the
entire year and when it you know what I'm saying,
whether it's injuries and you know, letting guys get away
and you know it all started when you know, when
Mookie Betts leaves it, it can be difficult. But that team,
I actually think that I'm gonna just say now, I
think they can win the East. I really do. I
(46:59):
know the Yankees of the face and the rest of it,
but the Yankees have had a tough injury roll so
far and they're still going there's no questions. So we've
seen the movie. And while the Yankees are the big
expectations and I get it, I'm gonna tell you what.
I don't think the Red Sox are going away this year.
They have gotten better, obviously defensively and at the plate.
(47:19):
We know, guys, they'll always they're a scrappy team that
always hangs around some of the names you don't even know, right,
I mean you do, but you get my point. But
it's pitching. I mean, they went out and got some
help this offseason. I think the Red Sox are a
real threat in the American League this year.
Speaker 4 (47:32):
Baltimore in front of them with the six best odds,
the favorites one through five. Of course, I mean we
can pretty much guess who's Dodgers. Yes, Dodgers are going
to be a favorite. The Atlanta Braids are going to
be hanging around as a favorite number two yep. Plus
the Yankees will be in the top five.
Speaker 3 (47:50):
Same deal. Let's see, I'm thinking about divisions. There's there's
a couple obvious ones that I'm leaving out here. Are they?
They don't have Cleveland in the top five.
Speaker 8 (48:02):
Do they?
Speaker 3 (48:02):
They do not? Cleveland was not even in the dark
horse category. Yeah, I was gonna say, I think last
year was a bit of an aberration with their their success.
Josh Naylor are not there anymore either. That's exactly right,
Baltimore top five. Baltimore was six, okay, right, and just
in front of the Red Sox. Who are the other
two teams Phillies and Mets. The Millies. The Phillies are
(48:24):
the obvious one obviously with the great pitching staff as well,
and the Mets that should have been with you know,
having a Soto there and the way they and they've
upgraded their team. But my thing is, I just never
trust the Mets. Somehow, some way arms go south. I'd
like to see them healthy for a full season, you know,
by getting their team going in ad and Soto there
(48:46):
is uh is big for them. But those those two
are pretty obvious in the National League and they're still
think about that four National League teams one American League
team in your top five.
Speaker 4 (48:56):
Well, and it's that's the thing is it seems like
the balance of power right now is most over to
the National League. I mean, you mentioned the Braves. That
was a team that was just decimated by injuries last year.
You got great pitching out of Chris Sale. They're gonna
get Spencer Streider back, who he made his road to
a return yesterday and looked like he has. So, I
mean that's a tough team and a team too in
(49:17):
a division that you mentioned the Phillies. They spend the Mets, well,
they definitely do. They did this offseason was Soto, but
I feel like the Mets that there was a little
bit of kind of the way that we looked at
the Rangers after the World Series run. It's just that
you had a lot of things go right for you
pitching wise, and just overall that you just went I mean,
(49:40):
I mean, because we saw from the Rangers last year's Yeah,
they had their injury concerns all those things, but it
was also too I mean, where you've got sports pitching
out of his mind, You've got the clerk pitching out
of his mind, like all of these different guys that
you're like, that's not sustainable. Man, You're not going to
carry that over to the next season. Yeah, that's tough
to do. But the bats are alive and well, and
with the Mets, and again, if if they're pitching holds up,
(50:02):
they're they're they're a legitimate threat. The truth is it's
the Dodgers and everybody else.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
Doesn't mean you can't go win it, but it is
to dodge to everybody else but the Mets and Philly's blowing.
That's gonna be a hell of a fun run in
that division with with those three teams, I mean, it's
gonna be a hell of a fun, good one to watch.
Speaker 4 (50:16):
And it has been, I mean the last few years.
I mean, you've had it all where where all three
of those teams are vying. I mean, you know you
talked about the final week of the season in regards
to the AO West. I mean, it was the same
deal last year where everybody's sitting around watching, all right,
who's gonna win this game? In Atlanta between the Mets
and the Braves. They had to play that doubleheader and
then ended up where both teams got in and knocked
(50:38):
the Diamondbacks out. But I mean, yeah, that's a competitive division,
the East and the al Is and you mentioned the
Central too with the American League. Notice the team we
haven't talked about yet, A J. Hinches Boys. Yeah, Detroit, Detroit.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
They can pitch, they're on the rise, and well you
got a taste of them last year right here and
throughout Major League Baseball. I I don't well, they're not
going to be a top five I'm assuming they got
him in the dark horse category. They out just.
Speaker 4 (51:07):
Out the dark horse category. They are number thirteen behind
the Cubs, and of course they have an advertisement right
over who's number eleven.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
I would assume they'd take that a little personal, wouldn't
you a little bit? I mean, I think if nothing else, it's, hey,
did we not have the best left hander in baseball? Too? Maybe?
Right he is?
Speaker 4 (51:26):
He is the best left in baseball. I mean I
talked about Chris Sale, but no, Terrek Scooba well, for
sure the best young left hander. And Sales comeback last year.
His re emergence was nothing short of spectacular. So yeah,
he will put it this way. He's in the team
pitcher and he's probably the biggest face on it, meaning
uh scooble so. And going back to getting back to
the Phillies in Atlanta, core their team, they kept them,
(51:51):
you know what I'm saying for the most part. You know,
they keep the core of their.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
Team, and they both play an exciting brand of baseball.
I'm axious to see how Cunya comes back, which shouldn't shock
us if he comes back and plays great, But they
keep the core of their team. Pitching change a little
bit and getting Spencer Strider back as you mentioned earlier.
So those two teams, it's going to be fun to
see how they do it. But you are one hundred
percent correct about Detroit. I would not blink if I
(52:15):
was in that division. They're prett damn good.
Speaker 4 (52:16):
Telling Ronald Akunyu Junior this year too. Of you know,
the stolen bases are nice, but we don't need seventy
of them out of you. We got to have you
on the field. Number eleven, by the way, was the
Arizona Diamond. And they added Corbyn Burns over the offseason
two which is huge.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
And he's been as consistent a right handed we've had
in baseball the last couple three, four or five years.
He's that's a great get. That's a big loss for
Baltimore in my opinion. Sure, I think that's a big
I think that's a good get for Arizona. And that's
and their pitching staff the reason they got to the
World Series two years ago. They had some really good years,
but their pitching staff was lights out. I think the
(52:51):
starter and what what didn't what's his name? The Gallon
start in the All Star Game that year as well,
So they can pitch man and Corbyn Burns is another upgrade.
Speaker 4 (53:00):
Merrill Kelly, I mean, they've they've got a good group there.
Uh you mentioned the Guardians. They're in the underdogs category
fifteen through seventeen last year. Yeah, I think I think
there's a lot of people that believe that with them,
and you've got the Minnesota Twins behind them, and then
also to the Kansas City Royals.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
No, it's crazy, competitive, competitive league. You know who's whether
it's the division or overall. You know who's kind of
disappeared from our conversation. It's always a playoff team. Is Tampa? Yeah,
the Rays have disappeared from the conversation the last couple
of years, when every year you say, oh, they'll hang around.
You know, the pitching has always been dominant, but you
know some of the pieces have gone and obviously when
(53:36):
the young player gets in some trouble. Yeah, you know
it is. That's a team that you say, man, we
haven't in two years, we haven't mentioned them unless it's
been talking about Wander and that's not You wonder why
you don't want to talk about that, that situation, but
that team is. It's amazing how they went from competitive
(53:56):
every year too. We don't even discuss them now.
Speaker 4 (53:59):
Third rail sean third rail sometimes you go it's not
sometimes let me let me take that back. You always
stay away from the third rail. Don't touch the third rail, agreed,
and that's the Rays definitely going through their issues there
in Tampa. All right, Coming up next, do you want
to continue the Astros conversation because some.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
Thoughts on who are the final ones?
Speaker 4 (54:21):
We'll discuss that on the other side as we continue
here in the seven o'clock hour. It is the Shawn
Salisbury Show, Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 9 (54:31):
Let the celebration start more Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
It's Sean Salisbury Show. All right, Sean, what are you
hearing out there now?
Speaker 9 (54:44):
The Salsbury takeout, Salisbury takeout on.
Speaker 10 (54:49):
The Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
It is Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (55:06):
It's the Steakout, Dan Matthews, Sean Salisbury, Triple Emmanuel Elmore
Rockets overtime winners last night, one four, one thirty seven.
They give up seventy eight points a season high in
the first half, but able to turn it around. Astros
back in action after a day off yesterday. Final full
week of spring training ball. We'll have them in the
(55:27):
Nationals coming up four to fifty right here. Sports Talks
seven to ninety. Major League Baseball season underway over in
Japan and the Dodgers with a three to one lead
heading to the bottom of the eighth. There over the
Cubs and local baseball here Rice hiring former assistant David
Pierce as their new head coach. He has taken over
(55:49):
the job on Friday when they head South Florida and
take on FAU. All right, so, Sean Matt Kalahara the
Houston Chronicle headline, why astro face interesting roster decisions on
these five players. We'll get the Cam Smith here in
just a second. But we're to the part of spring
training now where you have to try to figure out
(56:10):
who my guys on the bench, Who do I trust,
Who who can fit numerous different categories, and who can
be able to provide a spot start when I need
him or a good pinch hit off the bench. Those
are things that are part of the conversations that Joe
Aspata and Dana Brown are having at this moment. So
he lists five players. We talked a lot about Cam
Smith yesterday. We'll get to him last, but the first
(56:33):
that he mentions here is John Singleton, and he starts
off by saying that, yeah, he may well make the
team as the backup first baseman and a left handed
bat off the bench, talking about the numbers he posted
and how he played last season. But here are the
things that work against him. Career five for thirty eight
as a pinch hitter, and this spring in the Grapefruit
(56:56):
League he's four of thirty one. Now, I say all
that as the case against him because we saw last
year when it got to the playoffs who played first base.
Victor Carrottini played first base, and that was after the
beginning of the season. Where you're consistent, one hundred percent
more consistent at bat, and not only that, but also defensively.
I mean Kalahara mentions that too, that you know, some
(57:19):
defensive issues for Singleton, so you would like the bat
to be more of a plus for him than it is.
But those two numbers that I just threw out, I mean,
when it comes down to cutting time and they're trying
to figure out who's got options, who fits, you know,
who can we have here as a bench a bat
off the bench, you actually think there's a chance he
doesn't make this, right. I think there's a really good
chance he does not make this roster. Yes, because what
(57:42):
I just talked about with Victor Carrottini, we hadn't even
mentioned Zach Dezenzo, and I understand you know it's one
of those Do you want to have the left handed
bat if you need to give Christian Walker a day off?
Speaker 8 (57:51):
Sure?
Speaker 6 (57:52):
Fine.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
That's the one advantage for Singleton, right, that it works
in his favor from a power back from that side,
who gives you a pretty good defense. He does. He is
serviceable and that pretty good. He's not gonna win a
gold Globe, but he's good enough.
Speaker 4 (58:05):
And for when you had to part ways with Josea
bray You last year just because you knew it wasn't
working out, he stabilized the position, so you can you
can appreciate that, but no more options, and I mean
yours you carrying you're carrying two?
Speaker 3 (58:21):
Yeah, yeah, I mean right right, and sometime during the season,
depending on the stretch, they will carry three, you know,
because Salazar will make his way up because at some
point in time, as micahen, we even saw it with
Karatina last year. Right. So my thing is, do you
okay you're carrying to any concern about Catcher in first
(58:42):
baseman in the lineup at the same day, any concern
at all on a consistent basis. You're talking about like
having or vice versa, sure vice versa with Dias at
first base and Kartini not necessarily because I mean I
like what they give me both from the offensive side
and the left handed bat that Krantini brings to the plate.
He's a switch hitter, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 4 (59:01):
Yeh yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean and and you know
with him, I mean, there there's that versatility, but it's
also there is more trust in Or Diaz behind the plate.
But there's a lot of trust in Victor Carrattini. And
that's why I think in certain cases you saw him
relied upon a little more than your Diaz was last season.
But I do think with the full body of work
(59:22):
last year that there is a little bit more trust
in Das.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
Yes or no, Singleton's on the opening day roster, he
is not.
Speaker 4 (59:28):
In my opinion, I think if it comes down to
a number scheme, John Singleton is playing somewhere else this season.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
Do you think they'd lean younger as well, like trust
just anywhere? Yes? Well, but what did we hear about
de Zenzo. We heard that if he's not getting every
day at bats, he's not here. No, he's gonna go
and get forward bats to day.
Speaker 4 (59:48):
I think that you probably will see Zach Decenzo with
the Sugarland Space Cowboys to start the.
Speaker 3 (59:52):
Season, and we'll fight here at some point in time.
Easily he would. So you got Singleton out. Singleton is out.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
Luis Contreras twenty eight, seven and two thirds this spring
is allowed five hits and he has also walk three,
struck out ten.
Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
He is on the forty man roster.
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
He does have minor league options, but he has put
together a nice case for him. And now consider what
the bullpen here. Here's another factor that comes in at
least twofold Sean dub twelve pitchers, uh, thirt thirteen, I
think is the man? Well yeah, third, so what you
got twenty six to open the season, right, yeah? So
if you're carrying thirteen and thirteen, is that how this
(01:00:33):
is gonna happen?
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
I mean, obviously, well that'd be twenty five, So you
gotta just split it right down the middle thirteen thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
Pitching is a lot like lineman and football more than marriage.
There's never a coach that says, God, what am I
gonna do with all these defensive tackles?
Speaker 3 (01:00:46):
I you know, I don't have enough for these good
a matter of fact, thirteen you wish he had eighteen.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
So that's if you gave major league managers a chance,
they absolutely would. But you factor in kayleb Board is down,
Sean Duban is down right now, and a guy that
I think a lot of people were counting on for
the back end of the bullpen force Whitley down right now, and.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
This force Whitley has to contribute to this team this year.
He has absolutely has to well out of options. That's
what I'm saying. It's either here he's I mean this,
there is no more. I mean, even if he comes
back and when he's what do we got a couple
of weeks. So he's not going to start the season
healthy right now, they're going.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
To give themselves the run with the il They'll they'll
put him on the iel.
Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
My point is it's not I don't just being contribute
this season, but for his future as an astro, being
up with a big club, staying healthy, he's going to
have to contributor think about the patience they've had with this,
you know why, and even through all this year saying
patients have body you know, body type and gain weight,
lose weight, get stronger, injury after injury after injury, starter
(01:01:51):
bullpen guy, which appears that he's going to be a
bullpen guy now right, And it's it's not just now
or never with options, it's now our ever as far
as his future as a consistent and being here. They
have given all this opportunity because when you remember now,
you heard about Jordan, you heard about Kyle Tucker. He
was the guy as a pitcher, and you've waited and
(01:02:12):
waited and waited for this, and now his role has
changed from what they had ideas for him when he
first you know, when he first started here. The question
here is when I say started as an astro and
the high I mean as a huge prospect in this organization.
And we go through all the struggles and we've talked
about those and they've been at nauseum. But just for
(01:02:33):
his future, it can't be Dan, it can't be two
weeks hamstring, two weeks soreness he has got. It's now
an ever for his future as a major League baseball player.
Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
That's the conversation that I think has had with him.
When you are able to get him back out there
throwing in is it's got to be hey, look fair
or not count on him every day. We've got to
have you here and if not, then we've got to
finally move on. And another thing I think he mentioned
this when he talked with Chris Gordy there in spring training,
right he was asked about the best piece of advice
he got from somebody. He was like, I remember one
(01:03:06):
camp with Garrett Cole. I mean to the point you
brought up about how long he's been here that you're
just like, wait a minute, Garrett Cole, wasn't that like
ten years ago. It was a little more than five.
But you still get my rare which it's rare.
Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
You have this kind of patience with the guy, which
tells you how they hold him in high regard because
they continue to see something that says. One is you said,
we've been patient enough. We'd like to we'd like the
fruits of our labor. We'd like the investment in him
to pay all. Sure. Secondly, it's like they still see
something that says, even though it's a different role than
when they first started with him, when he came into
(01:03:38):
the to the Astros as a young player, it's like, okay,
we got at least see this through. But guess what
there ain't no seeing the train track is it's coming
to It's a runaway train, right, it's runaway train. That
that you got to build more track for him if
he comes and does this thing, because it's it said,
it's wits end, no pun intended. He's got get his
(01:04:00):
he's got to get his stuff going and it's got
to be a healthy, solid year where he is a
fixture in the bullpen for it to pay off with
what the Astros have invested in their time with him.
Speaker 4 (01:04:12):
Still some other names to consider, we'll do that on
making this roster. I think Contres makes this roster for
increase his biggest advantage right now. Yeah, yeah, so I
think he's got a spot there. So some others to consider, yes,
including him. We'll talk about it on the other side.
Here it is the Sean Salisbury Show, Dan Matthews, Tripoli,
Emmanuel Elmore. He's Sean Salisbury Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (01:04:34):
Live.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
The Sean Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (01:04:39):
As the Cubs only have three hits the entire early
morning there in Japan. Rockets win last night, coming back
from twenty five down in force overtime and beat the
seventy six ers seven. They've won seventh straight Astros and
Nationals back in grape Fruit League action. Today for fifty
(01:05:01):
is when we're gonna get started right here on Sports
Talk seven ninety and the Texans ad veteran corner Ronald
Darby on a one year at two and a half
million dollar contract yesterday to help bolster the depth there
in the secondary sean. Another name to consider for the
Astros Steven Okert, left hander who's had a really nice spring.
Thirty three years old. He has not allowed a hit
(01:05:24):
in eight and two thirds scoreless innings and struck out
fourteen in his outings so far with the Astros.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Yeah, that says you go in there and you have competition.
He did his thing all spring long. It's somebody you're
gonna have to count on. There's no doubt. There's no
way you don't have him doing this thing right.
Speaker 4 (01:05:41):
Well, especially with Bennett Susso coming back from the shoulder
he struggled, And you know I mentioned about dude, he's.
Speaker 3 (01:05:47):
Been the bet. He's been the most consistent pitcher in
spring when it comes to bullpen guy right.
Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
And I understand too that some people on the surface
might look at it and say, well, wait a minute,
you got the lefty guy out there. I think if
I'm Joe Aspata, I say, can he get outs?
Speaker 8 (01:05:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
He's pretty and right now he can get out? He
left handed? Is he right handed?
Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
Can he pitched both ways?
Speaker 11 (01:06:04):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
I don't know. That's the whole thing, but also can
you get both sides of the plate out? And if
you he's done a hell of a job this spring
of doing that earned or earned the look, there's no
question about it. I'm with you one hundred percent. That's
a yes. A guy that a guy that missed this
list that I thought was pretty interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
Logan Van why we talked about him? He's another guy
that could be in consideration. I mean I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:06:25):
Enough about him, uh stuff wise? I mean do you?
I don't know enough of what we see the game
right right? Yeah, with the Nanke and I, but the
depth of of who he is and what he brings
to the table, I don't know enough about him.
Speaker 4 (01:06:38):
All right, we'll get to the name here in just
a second. We mentioned Zach Decenzo earlier. Notice who we
haven't mentioned, so stick and stay for that. But Brendan
Rodgers another guy and me and you have talked about
him numerous times, and I understand in a lot of people,
Mauricio Dubond is your everyday second baseman. This guy has
opt outs in his deal that I'm guessing once it
(01:06:59):
gets to the meetings, when he sits down Dana Brown
in one chair, Joe Spotta and the other, Hey, am
I here starting every day second basement? And if they
say no, well that I think he probably says, all right, well,
let's see what Milwaukee has. Let's see what you know
the White Sox need or anybody else out there? Or
does he stick and stay and say hey, kind of
like Victor Carrottini last year, I can be that guy
(01:07:21):
this year.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Yeah, if you're the Astros, don't you want that depth
and versatility there? Are you sure Dubon's gonna play every day?
I want him too? But are you sure he is?
Are we sure he is?
Speaker 4 (01:07:31):
I It's not that I'm worried about Dubon playing every
single day.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
I know what I have from him and the speed.
I know what I have for the Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
I don't question is what kind of player here? I
just know that more of a book that gets out
there on him. The production starts to slide at the
place as the season rolls on, and this is a
group that we talked about it yesterday with the outfield
focusing on McCormick, focusing on Myers, and where does cam
Smith fit into the category there with those guys and
what you think you're going to get from them offensively?
(01:07:59):
I'm looking if you got one more bats in this lineup, yes,
and a.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Gold Glove player. My question is defensively, we know the
outfield defensively, we know what Jake Myers brings in centerfield defensively,
but not a good arm covering ground that plays right field.
Not a good arm, yes, al two bays. That's not
his strength either. So overall defensively, do you have any
(01:08:30):
concerns at all in the outfield overall covering ground? No? No,
Defensively is not say Roger, let's say that he's not
here gold glove second basement. Does that limit your versatility
without him? I know you can take Paradius and move
him to a middle infielder second base, and you can
put cam Smith the third base in McCormick and right field. Sure,
(01:08:53):
but you went out and got the guy. I know.
It's not a it's not a big risk, but the
reward can payoff a two seventy type hitter and a
gold glove. What tells you what tells us that he
would and you're talking about opt outs, but what tells
us that you wouldn't at least roll with it at
first as a veteran? Don't they need it?
Speaker 4 (01:09:12):
Well, it's also too I mean, what are you looking
for at this point in your career. You're probably looking
to be on a contending team. This is going to
be a contending team, no doubt. So at least maybe
write it out for now, and then you see the
you know, do the Yankees need somebody?
Speaker 3 (01:09:27):
Do the Cubs need somebody?
Speaker 4 (01:09:29):
Something like that that If it comes to that point,
then you say, hey, guess what it's been real, come
out of here.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Let's name it. Okay, let's get to the thirteen. Sure,
let's go to the catchers, Diaz and Cartiny, Paradus third
paying you that's four, Dubond five, Christian Walker six, Alt
two of a seven, you have Myers eight, and uh,
(01:09:56):
let's just a veteran. Let's go Chas nine. Now start
to fill it in. Cam Smith ten in my mind
meaning he's gonna he'll be on the right now we're
down to three. Okay, so who we missing? You got
Giorme is in there too. I mean he's not gonna
give you a ton in terms of hard hit, but
I mean he is somebody who's ball in play. There's eleven.
(01:10:16):
Zach Short is somebody that's been talked about.
Speaker 7 (01:10:18):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:10:19):
They did send Quincy Hamilton down, so he's not in play.
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
We mentioned his zenzo. If he's not going to get
it bats, they're gonna send him down. We're still too shy.
Who we missing? Whom? Who were Singleton? Okay you say no,
but right there's the possibility. He's there so veteran and
you can trust him with the gloves that he can
count and he'd give you a little power. But he's
not he's not a starter. Right, Okay, Now we're down
(01:10:45):
to one. Who is it? If it's not Singleton? We
still got two Rogers. So there's your thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
Yeah, and I mean you know we say all that
without even mentioning cam Smith at this point.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
And the reason why I bring him out and I
had him in the thirteen I have he should be starting.
But yes, we haven't talked a lot today. You haven't
mentioned him as far as a is he a tweener?
Meaning are they still questioning whether he's going to be
on the big league roster or not?
Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
I'm not, but it's also too I mean, this is
the Matt Kalahara piece. But you know Chandler Rome is.
We know how he is on social media. Somebody asked
him straight up, what percentage would you put on camp
Smith making this roster?
Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Who asked that?
Speaker 4 (01:11:24):
Just somebody asked on Twitter? And he, without context, just
said thirty five percent?
Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
Really, guys, real quick?
Speaker 7 (01:11:30):
Sheena called in.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
She said that you guys are missing you word on?
Oh yeah, oh yes, how could we forget him? Which
is isn't that the way it usually worked the Dodgers?
We got thirteen cats? Uh? Sean and uh and Dan? Uh? Yeah?
That got home runs? Right? You know, it's almost it's
so obvious you just forget there, you go, yes, exactly.
(01:11:55):
You that's funny. The first day we mentioned should have
been him, but you get caught up with it's like
we didn't even because you know what I'm going through positions,
I wasn't even think of bh, right, so you're on
obviously now, so you're you really got one spot for
like five cats?
Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
And I mean that's the competition that you've had year
in and year out. And for Cam to open season
thirty five percent of not not gone right thirty five
percent to make the roster out of camp.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Can I flip that and say sixty five? The math
would Yeah, the math withoud math, Yeah, yeah, thirty five.
I'm going to take the sixty five. The other on
go and Tashena ands everybody else we were wrong. No,
we just left out the most. We just left out
like the seventh best player in baseball. Yeah, yeah, that guy.
We that guy people to show. Yeah, I know feelings.
(01:12:46):
That's a classic by hey, uh you're missing one. We're
going through it saying man, she didn't well, actually us,
but you know it's it's well warranted, but it was
worth a well actually, yeah, hey there is that guy.
You might have heard of him from the left side
of plate and it hits the ball about five hundred.
Isn't that person the worst? Yeah? Oh well actually yeah no,
but in this case it was well, actually I didn't
ask you, so there is no well, actually your premise
(01:13:09):
is gone. How about as we're sitting there saying who
we miss it? And we said, oh, Rogers and the Descenzo.
Uh you're Don Alvarez. Yeah, so there you go. Yeah,
I got that guy. That's where that that's a classic
right there. Yeah, it's a keeper.
Speaker 4 (01:13:21):
Well, we'll be seeing tons of number forty four jerseys
out there despite what these two knuckleheads have to say.
But uh no, definitely, uh, you definitely know that you
can count on jord On Alvarez, that is for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
Coming up last night's uh it was uh, you know,
a delay in the NBA for reasons that well you
probably would not necessarily like to talk about. We'll do
that next right here as we close out at seven
o'clock hour. It is a Sean Salisbury Show. Shawn Salisbury,
Dan Matthews, Triple, Emanuel Elmore, Sports Talk seven ninety Sean Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Here for surt of Pro Painters, sirdapro dot com for
your free estimate and every sort of pro stores individually
owned and operated, which is a great things that boutique field.

What a novel concept. I love them, and cert of
(01:14:13):
Pro Painters can do the same for you. They're the
official painting partner of the Houston Astros, and I was
a customer before I became part of the family. And
the reason why is I'm not talking about a product
I don't believe in and I don't use, and I
believe in use it. So I do both and you
will too. It's sort of pro painters. They do it
right and they are there for you. And it's expensive
(01:14:36):
own a business and home expensive, so why not protect
it with the quality painting of sort of pro painters.
I love them. They'll do your home or your business right,
interior exterior, and they do it efficiently, and they do

love the decision not to be a di wire when
it comes to curt of Pro Painters, cert of Pro
certopro dot com, cert of Pro Painters. That's painting happy.
(01:14:58):
This is the shot else.
Speaker 1 (01:15:03):
That's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
I'm not gonna say meaningful Sean, but somewhat meaningful action
out of him because he hasn't been on a game
mound in over two years, and today he'll get that chance.
I would probably guess an inning out of him. I
don't think they stretch him too. Yeah, no, I'm you're
not gonna that. You do not want to get at
this stage of the game. This is I don't want
(01:15:28):
to just say tune up, but it's a it's a
confidence builder. Say Okay, we like what we see. I
don't think you're gonna let him hang around long. No,
you don't want to put too much on him. And
you've got time to build him up there in the minors. Uh,
the Major League Baseball season underway.
Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
Hey let me interrupt you real quick please, A guy
Justin Stapleton, who we both love. What what do we
say about him?
Speaker 4 (01:15:46):
Yeah, we were talking about his wife video from I
saw that as well. How the stage went black, and
my comment was.
Speaker 3 (01:15:56):
It was a compliment. It was thanks and a thumbs
up for it was for us to see.
Speaker 4 (01:16:01):
In My comment was, I said, Journey really leaned into
the Sopranos bit right there, because the funny enough don't
Stop Believing is what's playing in the final scene of
the Sopranos, And it went black, and everybody across the
country was like, the hell just happened?
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
But that's what we were talking about there.
Speaker 4 (01:16:17):
Justin Stapleton shout out to him KPRC two shout out
Owen con Flinty as well. Know that he's a big
listener to us, so appreciate that MLB season underway in Japan.
And the Dodgers stop if you've heard this best record
in baseball for to one winners over the Cubs an
zero for three day out of Kyle Tucker to get
(01:16:37):
his Cubs tenures started. And no Ryan Presley in that
game either, so got to wait and see what he
looks like there. And Texan's ad Ronald Darby veteran corner
on a one year, two point five million dollar deal,
the delay in the NBA last night, and Conrad James
Brandon Jim see you guys right there, get to you
(01:16:59):
all here in j to second. But did you see
what happened at Mason Square Garden last night?
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
I did not so.
Speaker 4 (01:17:05):
Tracy Morgan, who with your buddies in the comedic world.
I've got to believe if you've met Tracy Morgan before.
Speaker 3 (01:17:11):
He was in uh we were in the Longest Yard together.
Oh that's right, Yeah, that's right. He was one of
the cheerleaders. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we had some great laughs
making that movie. Yeah he he wasn't part of the
I think he just you know what himself. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
well he was a character man. It was that was
fun movie to make.
Speaker 4 (01:17:29):
I was gonna say, I mean him, you got, uh,
what's it uh to Toro in there, Nick de Toro
and everybody, I mean Sandman.
Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
Himself, Yeah, Chris, Chris Rock, Yeah, I got Chris Rock.
We got How cool was it to meet Burt Reynolds
off the charts? It was funny when he I've always
been a fan from the first time around, right, and
you know he's a big football guy. Yeah, yeah, it's
we met him. He and I and Sandler had breakfast
in Los Angeles together and sat down and he was
(01:17:58):
sharing old stories. We sat there for about two hours,
so it's against it was before we left to go
to film the movie. Yeah, And it was such an
odd because you know, he's a big sports fan, so
he seen television and watched it. Yeah. Oh yeah, familiar
right right, Yeah, But it wasn't about me. I was like,
I'm sitting here with Paul, I mean with Paul kru Man.
But this is Burt Reynolds from Smoking in the band,
(01:18:19):
and just as engaging and fun and just an awesome dude. Man,
we had so much fun and what a bummer he's
not around, but we had so much fun in that
and he was just not only a help, but it
was kind of he was a presence. Even with all
those stars that were there, it was Burt Reynolds. He
was a present. It was great. It was an honor
(01:18:40):
to meet him and.
Speaker 4 (01:18:40):
Me and you were sharing stories off air that will
give context to this of you know situations where it's
you sit back, you listen. There's nothing I can add
to this conversation. That's got to be one of those
right there where you know, maybe you throw out a question,
but then hey, let the guy cook.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
Oh I mean, And that's what it was. And anytime
there's a little preggate pauses like I was like semi fanboy,
but you know, not peppering him. But there's certain things
and that you wanted to know, like what it was
like playing the first Paul. It was a phenomenal conversation.
It was great because you know, when you get to
the movie set, everybody's doing their thing and coming and
going and stuff, and still had time. He made time
(01:19:17):
for everybody. He was phenomenal. But to be able to
sit there with Sandler and him at the same table.
I'm like, Okay, we got this dude, Sandler who's off
the charts, and I'm sitting here looking at I mean
a million you know, Burt Reynolds movies, and it kind
of also is a consultant knowing about the Paul Crew thing.
It was just I'm like, one of these things is
not like the other. The sesame Street and it's me
(01:19:37):
two legends and I'm sitting there listening to talk. But dude,
I'm just telling you, some of the best times of
my life have been with people not only that are
far more talented, but just like sitting back and observe
and say, this is way over above my pay grade
to be around these guys. So lucky man.
Speaker 4 (01:19:52):
So Tracy Morgan last night, and I understand his breakfast time.
So when do my best to be able to skirt
the lines of this as best as possible. A ten
minute delay in the Knicks heat game last night, Tracy's
sitting their courtside because they had to do a little cleanup.
Tracy visibly ill taken off the floor in a wheelchair.
Now it's not lost on me to the health stuff
(01:20:13):
that he's had not making jokes about that, but without
any other without any other context to this, the NBC
and also the AP did reach out to Morgan's reps,
and it's unknown exactly what the deal was, but a
ten minute cleanup. And I saw a photo too. There's
these two girls that are sitting next to Tracy and
(01:20:35):
whoever is plus one there at the game, and it
was it was one of those a photo can tell
a thousand words.
Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
The one girl just kind of like.
Speaker 4 (01:20:45):
A it wasn't a full head turn, but it was
kind of like a glance to the right and she's
kind of like doing like the clenching of you know, hey,
don't don't don't, don't get it on me here, right,
And yeah, that's that's one of those. It's a rough
look there of court side, especially court side.
Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
Now it's got in the world to see, buddy.
Speaker 4 (01:21:04):
I mean, you know, you had Larry david on on
Curb your Enthusiasm, tripping shack.
Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
That's exactly got to watch your feet, yep, you gotta.
Speaker 4 (01:21:11):
You gotta make sure that you know, you take a
sip of your drink, make sure you put it.
Speaker 3 (01:21:15):
Down under your seat. That's in between the two Seedsah.
Speaker 4 (01:21:18):
You don't want to kick it overs, come over and
have the towel boys come over there and start to
mop it up a little bit like the sweat and
the lane.
Speaker 3 (01:21:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
Yeah, you don't want to be the reason that delay happens.
So hopefully Tracy starts to feel better. But yeah, that
was a ten minute delay last night in that game.
So we'll get to some of y'all on the phone line.
See Conrod James there, see Al Brandon, All you guys
right there. Ladies too, you want to hop in do so?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety one

Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
Saulsbury, Old very Salisbury, Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
Okay, let's do this, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
There to usc true, longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (01:22:31):
Bryan l Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewn Salsbury Show,
as the Rockets last night's outscore the Sixers seventy four
fifty three in the final two quarters to force overtime
and win that one one forty four, one thirty seven.
They've now won seventh straight.
Speaker 4 (01:22:51):
They're gonna head to Florida for a couple of games
magic Tomorrow nights. Then you get the heat on Friday
before you come back home for the Denver Nuggets on
sun Day. Astro's back in action against the Nationals later
on this afternoon. Grape Fruit League action, as we're gonna
get covered, started at four point fifty right here on
Sports Talk.
Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
Seven to ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:23:11):
Major League Baseball season has started as the Dodgers beat
the Cubs at four to one over in Tokyo. Also
to the NCAA Tournament. The first two games of the
tournament starting up tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
You may have the appetizer, that's the aptizer Thursday for me, dog, Yeah,
but I am going to watch these first two. But
I'm just telling you right now, give me give me Thursday,
all the courses on Friday, best two days in sports. Yes, yes,
especially on Thursday. The Thursday and Friday is to me
upsets everything, and kids should be out of school. I
(01:23:45):
mean I took my kids out of school every Thursday
and Friday from the time they were about the seventh
grade on. It's been their friends.
Speaker 4 (01:23:51):
It's been numerous times that I've had multiple meals at
bars watching both Thursday and Friday action. But yeah, you're
gonna get two games tonight, including you and see taken
on San Diego State. So that's had a lot of
consternation after after the brackets were revealed.
Speaker 3 (01:24:07):
Yeah didn't uh didn't one of the the committee chair
from North Carolina. Didn't he get a six figure bonus.
People are pointing to that of wondering that's the talk.
Speaker 4 (01:24:19):
Is it a little Is it a little sketchy there
with Bubba Cunningham getting that nice bonus even though he
can't be in the room. He can't be in the room.
Speaker 3 (01:24:28):
But the conflict of interest bugs man bugs me in
football team, there's no a power five athletics director should
not be on the thirteen person committee.
Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
It it almost it almost feels a little feels dirty. Yeah,
like the Washington back room deal. Of course it does.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
They'll all tell you no, it's all about Hey, you know,
character in the rest of right. The bottom line, there's
enough committee members to the possible committee members to go around.
I don't need somebody that's sitting in a position where
it's whether he did or didn't, right, I get it, right,
But for me, take that out of it. Take that
(01:25:03):
out of it. I don't need to walk on the
court and see an official going on underdog fantasy. Okay,
just like this, I don't need to see this either.
Doesn't make sense. Sure, now they can go on underdog fantasy,
but not as an official right now, I'm at draftking.
Oh great, but you get my point. I just I
don't like the the hint of was there did they
deserve it? Type? I just don't like that hint bogs
(01:25:25):
It bugs me.
Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
So we'll see just how far the Heels can get.
Texas's gon to be on the floor tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (01:25:30):
Or a little controversy surrounding them too.
Speaker 4 (01:25:32):
That's I mean a lot of people wondering if they
deserve to be in being you know, six and twelve
in conference play, just a few games above five hundred,
so wondering if Rodney Terry's team deserved a chance to
be able to get in I understand as Sean Salisbury's
show legend.
Speaker 3 (01:25:47):
Yeah in these parts, I'm telling you it's been months.
I was worried about him. I'm being a service and
Brian and I talked about it because he's been a leged.
He's been one of our favorite guys and we had
so much fun with him, and I was worried about him.
So I that is he got a different job, did
he travel? And I was worried. But appears he's healthy
and here and I'm glad to have a big along.
Speaker 4 (01:26:07):
There you go with that introduction. Now on the south
side here on the Salisbury Show. Now, what's up, buddy,
and shout.
Speaker 8 (01:26:14):
Out to the show man.
Speaker 12 (01:26:15):
You know, I just took a little short reset, seand
you're good.
Speaker 3 (01:26:19):
You he I was worried about you. I really was,
what the heck's going on with my man? So you're
you're back and ready to go. You weren't mad at
us for anything, because you were one of our guys. Man.
We just wondered where you.
Speaker 8 (01:26:30):
Were the Shun show.
Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
You know.
Speaker 12 (01:26:32):
I'm then in spirit. All was well and as well.
You know what I'm saying, I'm still gonna be you know,
I'm stoning in the blood.
Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
I believe that you're my gud.
Speaker 8 (01:26:38):
Thanks being good, good, everything's been good.
Speaker 12 (01:26:41):
Shout out to Brian you know and all that and
great show, you know, best show in the world. I'm
gonna take a couple of points to get back into
this thing and let the fans know that.
Speaker 8 (01:26:49):
Don't panic.
Speaker 12 (01:26:50):
Shut I like what you said about it. He made
a dope a while ago. Way to poor that guy
and put him in when he really needed.
Speaker 8 (01:26:56):
That's whole school.
Speaker 12 (01:26:57):
You perform, you play, you don't we sit you How
that goes with the NBA at the level that they
get money now, they just take place off. Shout out
to my Rockets and the Astros. That's not you know, Sean,
we talked about that last year, the second second year
for this guy to coach this team. One thing about
my team, win, lose, a draw, shun. We talked about this.
They gonna give you quality baseball for your buck.
Speaker 3 (01:27:17):
Yep.
Speaker 12 (01:27:18):
I mean, what more can you ask they gonna do that?
You ain't going to them stands. You ain't got no
losing season with this team. They bought us two championships.
So pulos to my strokes. Now, you know, I got
to get to my babies. John in Texas, and I
want everybody to understand one thing. Everybody out here on
the other network, Sean talking about the line and.
Speaker 8 (01:27:36):
What did they do.
Speaker 12 (01:27:38):
Ex football players say they line was weak and they
weak and now with an admire Thompson and all that,
let me show you something with people don't realize, Sean,
and I want you to allude to this because we
talked about this and one thing about it. People have
to understand the Texans nature. When did uh Demico Bryant,
Demiko Lion and Nick do when we had the c J.
(01:27:58):
Strock pick.
Speaker 7 (01:27:59):
People don't really and forgot this.
Speaker 12 (01:28:01):
They moved to the third pick and got Will Anderson Junior.
So Sean, I'm not too much panicking about the whole line.
They gutted it out, so I think they got something
coming down the pipe with my Texes in that old line,
and I trust in the organization because it's a new regime.
I'm glad they tackling things that involved at the team
(01:28:22):
and didn't have the team, so you evolved in elevator
front line.
Speaker 8 (01:28:26):
I'm not worried about it.
Speaker 12 (01:28:27):
There's been a lot of chattering here and there, but
they got to remember the moves we made to get
CJ shrouded to that third pick with will Anderson, this organization,
they got my vote one. I know they got something
coming down and pison CJ shrout and I listen to
your take on.
Speaker 3 (01:28:41):
That great stuff, Alan, so honest, you made my day.
You're back on, buddy. It's been we talked. How many
times we talk about it off the air, even believe honestly,
So I like when that happens, I'm like, okay, is
it schedule change? Is everything healthy? You know? We lost
you know ms Carroll, you know and that that that
cut deeper right and still cut steep, and this is
(01:29:01):
gonna be our first full season without her baseball, So
I was worried about Al. But he sounds al sounds
does he say energetic rated?
Speaker 6 (01:29:08):
Roll?
Speaker 3 (01:29:08):
Mat, Yeah, I'll tell you this, He's one hundred percent
correct ally. And we're on the same page, sitting in
the same church pew, buddy, because I would have done
exactly what they did at the offensive line. They needed
Declan and I appreciated what Tunsel said. They got some
young players they wanted to bring in, and he understood
why they moved him. And I think for production. I
(01:29:30):
think Washington gets a good player, but he's got to
fix what he did pre snap and can cut down
on penalties. But this team needed a kick in the
ass there. And I'm with you. I think there's a
legitimate chance with all these assets that they're going to
try to move up and find another guy in this
line or what it may be best available or what
have depending on where they can get with this. I
(01:29:51):
do trust Nick and I do trust Amiko Rantz. They
wouldn't make these moves and just try to piecemeal, you know,
a bunch of oh the way guys. They're gonna find somebody,
and they're trying to find true positions for people as well.
They get Fisher in the lineup, is Titus Howard or
true left tackle? We'll go find out because he's played
right tackle, he's played interior guard. So we're gonna see
(01:30:12):
there's a plan. You're not going in with this defense
and with this quarterback, and with the going and getting
Christian Kirk and having Joe Mixon and Nico Collins. You're
not going into this season thinking, well, we're okay if
we played below average, And the truth is they played
well below average even with tunsl in the lineup last year.
So I listen, there's only one way to go in
my opinion, especially with the self inflicted penalties. They will
(01:30:36):
be better on the offensive line. They'll be coached, and
that's part of the reason why you made a change
as well. You got to maximize the building and you
got to take you got to get whatever you can
out of those fellas. I assure you as we sit
here now, the offensive line's not done being fixed in
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (01:30:52):
And if you listen Aaron Wilson and he had a
piece recently where he had talked about that the draft
is going to be where they mostly focus for it
if they want to find their left tackle the future,
any of those spots swing tackle, maybe even you know,
more depth that's going to be from the veteran options
that are out there. That's pretty much what you're looking at.
But Sean, here's the other side of the argument. Do
(01:31:14):
you trust Nick Cassio to do that? Because Kenyon Green
is on his watch, Shaq Mason's on his watch incompletes
right now, I think in certain ways with you Scruggs,
Jared Patterson and also Blake Fisher, right.
Speaker 3 (01:31:25):
So who's on who's on Demiko Ryan's watch then Bobby
slowk Yeah, offensive line coach, that's fair. You're not going
to hit him on. Strausser was and remember brought here
held in high regard, and unfortunately it didn't work and
they did not the most underproductive position, it's not always
(01:31:46):
a coaching thing. The most underproductive position has been the
offensive line last two years since Stroud's been the quarterback
and the Miko RAN's been here, so they may changes
with let it fester. So, yeah, it's on the watch.
But for every time you tell me that he missed
on a guy I got. I got through three to
year one of the guys he has hit on and
it wouldn't been a hit on Stefan Diggs. How do
(01:32:06):
you have stayed healthy? It says, So he's hit on
some now and they're still waiting for you know, I
still give Mechi the hall pass from the cancer or
was it a non lymfomas that were right? So and
still trying to get because we ever get Mechi back
to the way he played at Alabama before the knee injury.
In this you're gonna get a guy who's a first
round talent. When's it gonna happen, hopefully sooner than later.
(01:32:27):
But I'm telling you he got mixing. I guarantee you
Cincinnati wish his mixing was still there. With that offensive
firepower he went out and they've they've invested in Eco Collins.
Look at the believability there. Look what they've done on defense.
So for every guy and the people who didn't want
Tunsel here, he pulled that trigger to and remember he
didn't make that decision. Who did Bill O'Brien to bring
(01:32:47):
him here? For all those assets, right, and Tunsell did
some really good things, it was time to move on.
So I do trust him. I absolutely do, because I
can tell you this. You can't line up any worse
and be more self inflict the penalties and that team
was last year, so that will have to be an upgrade.
So they see some I do trust them. Now are
they all going to hit and be great? And listen,
(01:33:09):
there's a lot of people I talked to a former
offensive line coach has been a long time on line
coach in this league, who thought Kenyan Green was going
to be a hell of a player. Yeah, and I
know he's been. He's been a successful line coach in
the league. And a friend of mine. It didn't work here,
maybe it works in Philly. Well I can say this,
Ye're gonna miss on some. But if we're going to
blame the d GM, I'm not saying you are. But
you got that that's your guy. You drafted him, meaning
(01:33:31):
Nick Casira. But you know how many people would have
done the same thing. A lot held Kenyan Green high regard.
And maybe he can recoup that, not be a journeyman.
But the two the couple of years here injured and
when he was on the field, he was not good. Simple,
he just wasn't. And nobody saw that coming when he.
Speaker 4 (01:33:48):
Came out of a and M Yeah, and he was,
I mean, to your point not good last year, I
mean so much, to the point where he gave Shaq
Mason another chance when he came back from injury.
Speaker 3 (01:33:56):
And one last thing for this, Danny, I will tell
you this is it. You are the one thing that
they have to have and I'll take over. Well, this
guy's skilled. You want talent, good hands, good feet with
your line, and I get it. But I'm gonna tell
you what if you gave me a six talent with
a nine and a half nasty or a nine talent
that's a soft that wants to pillow fight. Give me this,
(01:34:19):
Give me the six and a half seven talent with
a nine and a half, mean and nasty on my
offensive line that automatically makes me better. If you give
me guys that have Mixon's attitude playing offensive line, this
offensive line will be better in twenty twenty five. The grinders,
There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (01:34:35):
And that's what the Texans are hoping they can find
when they put together that group of five to go
into this season. Brandon, see right there, we'll get to you.
And you mentioned Larmie Tonsul some interesting thoughts from him
that I think if maybe these were set on the
record here in Houston, he would have curried a little
bit more favor for those who booed when they heard
number seventy eight.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
I actually liked what I heard from him, Yeah, I did.
It was really mad Surity. We'll hear that. On the
other side.
Speaker 4 (01:35:00):
Has he had a chance to visit with the DMV
media yesterday after being traded over to Washington.
Speaker 3 (01:35:06):
Will hit on that on the other side right here,
Sports Talk seven ninety Hey Trajanwealth traswealth dot com Local

(01:35:28):
I mentioned this here in March. Four leaf clovers are nice.
That's not your retirement fund. What is is being smart
hiring experts and having somebody who's got a free review
for you over your portfolio to help you and to
map out a plan. You've got to plan your work
and work your plan. Plan in your work's one thing,
work in your plans another, and vice versa. If you
work your plan, but you've got to have a plan
(01:35:49):
to work it. And tradition, wealth is there to help
experts in four O one K insurance, the four A
one K rollover. And also, what do you want to
do in retirement? Do you have enough for you to say? Okay?
Put enough away? And retirement may last longer, people are
living longer. You don't want to go into retirement three
years later be forced to come back. If you want
to come back, great, But If you don't, then you
(01:36:09):
want to be able to have that same piece of
mind and security that you plan for your whole life
and all those years of grinding and work you put in.
Would it be a bummer not to be prepared for it?
And then you get as grandkids, your friends, your kids,
and go and do whatever you want. If you're not
prepared for it, how in the world can you without
a game plan and mapped out with Trasian Wealth, how
in the world can you prepare for it have the

Sean Salisbury show. Salesbury, That's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (01:37:26):
Major League Baseball season has started as one game is
in the books for the regular season, and the Dodgers
for to one winners over the Cubs in Tokyo, Oh
for three day out of Kyle Tucker, nothing out of
Ryan Presley as in he wasn't even used and uh
yesterday the news over twenty four hours old. But Derek
(01:37:46):
Stingley Junior the Texans meeting up on a three year,
ninety million dollar contract extension, the highest paid defensive back
in NFL history.
Speaker 3 (01:37:55):
So tell what until my guy? Uh, why am I
losing my mind? Played in Miami? Has said it's his kid.
He was the best dB in the league this year,
not named Stanley. Yeah his dad was his dad played
in the league? Yeah, Patrick stant the second he did.
(01:38:16):
He hasn't got his new deal. He's coming next. Isn't
he coming down the pike pretty soon? Or did he
did he already get his.
Speaker 13 (01:38:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
I want to say that because because I was going
to say if he didn't get his little something some
even though he some may think Stanley's better, he'll get his.
And I'm not sure where the Tan's contract is. He
might have got his. Maybe he got his last off,
I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (01:38:35):
Yeah, he didn't get his four years ninety six years
ago there fifty million dollars signing bonus.
Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
I was sitting there thinking, did sir get paid yet?
But he did And the big pay this year was
obviously J C. Horn. That was the one that was
that he jumped to the top of the heap. And
that lasts about a week and then Singley got his,
and then I guess has Sauce gotten his? He got his?
All right? He got his last year too, I think
as well, or in the fall time during training somewhere.
But he's he's at his in the last twelve months. Yeah,
(01:39:00):
this is they've passed them by, so it's only a
matter of time, is you know how that works? Yeah?
But this it's good on Stingley to get that, you know,
when you're averaging thirty million year and basically the whole
thing is guaranteed. But a million bucks. That's a that's
he's earned it. He's played great football and he's been
a he's been durable and been on the field for
the most part, which has been nice.
Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
What do players always tell us? Letting the agent handle that,
and well, I mean when you have that much confidence
in your ability, then it's all right, Well they pay
us what we want.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
Or we walk. Yeah, that's how it goes. Let the
agent handle it. The agent handle it till a certain point,
but don't give him power of attorney. You make sure
that he checks in with you. But you if you
trust them, you just cut them loose and let them
go do their thing.
Speaker 2 (01:39:40):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:39:41):
But there's always got to be there how we doing.
But you can't the key for those guys when you
have an agent doing their work and it's during the season,
knowing that in the offseason this didn't just happen overnight. YEA,
is it compartmentalize You've got to be and it's hard
to do, man. Yeah, some guys can't that that. It
affects them all the time and it's bugging him. But
you go out and play football and the handle the
(01:40:03):
business when you walk out the locker room and get
on the phone with your agent. But the ones who
are the best, that are the best of the best,
can compartmentalize everything. If you're having a problem at home,
you deal with it when you get home. If you're
having a problem with a buddy in the locker room,
you take care of it while you work. If you're
having contract situation, let the guys who represent you take
care of it when you hit the field. And Stingley's
done a phenomenal job of and he's one of those
(01:40:26):
guys that obviously this will get done. Play good football,
the rewards come. Play average football, then you got to
fight for more for the rewards. He played great football.
The rest is just dotting some eye and crossing some
te's and that's what it did right now. The way
the timing is and the way he's played on this defense,
he deserves to be the highest paid player. But at
his position, and you know what's going to happen two
(01:40:46):
years from now, somebody else will. That's the way it works,
whether they're the best or not good and timing or everything.
We got a quarterback named Dak Prescott's a good player.
He's the highest average quarterback in the league. He's not
the best player at his position. But this Cowboys rewarded
him like he is. And that's the key. That's it
only takes one to love you, brother, doesn't matter what
the guys in the other building think. It just takes
(01:41:08):
one to love you. And if that one is the
guy who signs a paychecks, that's a good thing. And
it worked for Deck. I expect him to have a
good year. I still think the Cowboys are a long
ways away. Kirk Cousins has found that out twice in
both Minnesota and in Atlanta. So he'll get his money
no matter what, And mentioning about power of attorney, Well,
unfortunately Rocky and Adrian found out about that. It was Paulie.
Did Paulie do anything to ever help Rocky? Uh? Drank
(01:41:32):
his booze pretty much, Polly Walnuts. Yeah, Paulie. You know
he was a help meet. You know he kept him
in line because it was his sister. You don't wanted
to fight him once like he was gonna kick Yeah family, Yes,
you just you just did. Yes, you just needed a
little You just need a little fast and furious family. Yeah,
(01:41:55):
post Rocky man, a little family. Polly really was using
up a lot of space. He was more of a
taker than he was a giver in the relationship, do
you think, But I still loved him. I don't know
what it was about Paulie. I loved him. Maybe it
was just because Paulie always seemed to be like a
little bit of e or on way to prove with
a dark clock kind of follow Paulie. Right, Yeah, he
(01:42:16):
was mad, he was this, but when it got right
down to it, you know, he and little Burgess Meredith,
you know, kept it going Burnsy as I call him,
because Jerry Burns and Burgess Meredith are the same guy. So, yeah, Paulie,
you gotta love Paulie Man. I loved him, but family, Yeah,
there you go. Paulie wasn't Paulie didn't exactly, but you
know at the time when he was like, you know,
(01:42:37):
trying to stay away from the booze a little bit,
he did get into rock and helped him train him
up a little bit, little motivational speech once in a while. Yeah,
he was in respect on Polly. I was it the
final one he was in. You know, it was hey
because he showed up with the big hunk of meat
because he go from the meat package plant when he's
just in there in the freezer painting. Well, no wonder
they let you go, Paulie. You're not working, you're not
(01:42:58):
an artist. Okay, this is no paint me at Birmingham
fixed the dog on steak in the meat. Okay, let's go, Paulie.
Then then he helped him, you know, set up the
match I need to see. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
He also played Lou and Back to Back to School,
because you know, there was a valuable lesson we learned
from Rodney in that movie is he doesn't get mad,
Lou gets mad, and when Lou gets mad, Lou gets physical.
Speaker 3 (01:43:19):
And Lou was his protector right there you go and
loved him and and was there.
Speaker 8 (01:43:24):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:43:24):
I hopefully he's still alive. I don't know.
Speaker 8 (01:43:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:43:26):
What's his real name. That's what I say every time, right, Yeah,
I feel like his name's Paulie. In real life, certain
character actors, like the guy that plays Eddie Harris. Somebody
said his name once and I was just like, you
could have told me that was his name and I
would have had no clue. But then you show me
his picture. Oh yeah, that's the guy from Woosier's Well
even in real life, it's happened to Darius Rutger, right,
(01:43:47):
they call him, they call him Moody's like, my name's
not Hoody, Okay, then it's Darius Rutger. So yeah, and dude,
he's been through that through his whole career. Yeah, it's great, hey, Hoody.
Now in the country thing, he's finally you know, you
refer to him as Darius. He went through the longest time, whereas,
oh man, I love that guy, Hoodie. You know what
do you think the rest of the band is just
(01:44:08):
the blowfish And it's like, yeah, that's the band name.
It's like, it's like Michael Stipe for r E m A,
it's r em No, my name's Michael.
Speaker 14 (01:44:16):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:44:16):
You know my favorite is when my favorite is when
I had to have a buddy who I love. He's
a big sports guy, but he's not a big music guy.
And when I mentioned I've said this before, when I
mentioned led Zeppelin, he goes, well, who who is he?
Meaning he thought led Zeppelin was one guy. Yeah, Oh yeah,
led Zeppelin. That's the guy's name, led Zeppelin?
Speaker 8 (01:44:36):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:44:37):
Oh cool. Yeah, it's the same with the Country. Who's
the two to the two? Uh? The uh the country
band it's got. Everybody thinks it's two dudes, and no,
well that's Dan Andshay. I'd imagine Florida, Georgia. He goes,
why I've asked this question done? No, there's no ann
and it's it's one name, but it's two dudes. And
(01:44:57):
I had the guy say the same thing. He thought
it was one guy. Yeah, they thought it was his
first and last time.
Speaker 4 (01:45:03):
But it's like me and the lady and her brother
went to a pool party in Vegas and Major Laser
was playing. And I had no idea that Major Laser
was three people. I always thought that.
Speaker 3 (01:45:12):
It was just one person. Oh you did, yeah, Oh
so I like that.
Speaker 4 (01:45:15):
So once I saw three people up there on the stage,
I was like, oh, that's interesting. And I think we
also got propositioned by a swinger couple.
Speaker 3 (01:45:22):
It was interesting. It was it was Vegas. What was
his name? Not for me, not for me, but that
was that was, Hey, you know, let's go get a drink, Like,
let's go get a lot of drinks away from these ps.
But once you get a lot of drinks, stay away
so you don't get yourself involved.
Speaker 4 (01:45:38):
That's that's it. That's it wrong. Hey, hey, hey, wrong,
wrong boat all right, I didn't sign up for this party.
I don't what are we even talking about here?
Speaker 3 (01:45:47):
I'm with you, man, that's that's one of those deflect,
change the conversation, do what you can't.
Speaker 4 (01:45:52):
But uh, anyway, we we weaved it all here. We
we we covered it all here. But we do need
to hear from Larrymy tunsl Brandon see you right there.
We'll get to you too as we continue here. It's
the Sean Salisbury Show. He's Sean Triple, Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews,
Sports Sox seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:46:07):
Doctor Jeff witz it at Witst vision dot com. Wh

with doctor Jeff witze It. It's witsitvision dot com. Wits

Shawn Salisbury Show continued, and and I do get that
when somebody says, hey man, it was like my buddy
(01:47:11):
said Montgomery, I thought it was one person because it
sounds like one. The name sounds like one led Zeppelin.
Speaker 5 (01:47:17):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
If it's not that one, you can't mess.
Speaker 4 (01:47:20):
Up now, Jimmy Page Plant And you know, although the
four originals are all top five in there at their
whether it's you know, whether it's the keyboards or whether
it's the you know, lead guitar, whether it's the front
man or the drummer, I mean, every one of them
is a Hall of Famer in my mind, so for sure,
ses all of them not off the charge. Rockets last
(01:47:41):
night coming back from twenty five down to beat the
seventy six ers. They went in overtime one forty four
thirty seven to win. Dan here win last massive. It
was massive.
Speaker 3 (01:47:52):
You'll point to it when this season ends, saying that
was a big part of how we performed this year.
Seven straight wins for the Rockets. Now, Astros get the Nationals.
Great Fruit League action coming your way later today for
fifties when the chickens started right here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety, Dodgers take out the Cubs four to
one start off the Major League Baseball season in Japan,
(01:48:13):
and the Texans ad veteran corner Ronald Darby yesterday on
a one year, two point five million dollar deal Laramie Tonsel,
like I talked about here earlier in this hour, I
think that if Texan fans had heard these words from
him while he was still in a Texans UNI. Now,
it's not to say that he was necessarily a guy
(01:48:33):
that avoided the media, even turned us down. I think
he just was one of those savvy veterans of new
when to be in the locker room went not and
if you ever had a chance to catch up with them,
he'd give you the time. But also it was he
would conveniently have excuses too. I gotta go get cold tub,
I gotta go do all of this. I think if
nothing else offensive lineman, they never want to necessarily be
(01:48:56):
the center of attention, so that can be frustrating because
I mean, you know, he's got the penalties, all that
kind of stuff, and you're kind of like, hey man,
I'm giving you an opportunity to speak up for yourself
right here, like take advantage of it.
Speaker 14 (01:49:07):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (01:49:07):
But I guess he kind of looks at it as Okay,
if I talk about it, then I make it more
of an issue other than maybe trying to clear it
up on the field.
Speaker 3 (01:49:14):
Two things Tunsel needs to do in Washington to be
to elevate his game. And he's what thirty one years old,
He's at that point right now where he's in the
prime of his career is but if he wants to
extend his career, his commitment in the off season, and
I would imagine Dan Quinn is going to have that
conversation with him about when you go to a new team.
(01:49:36):
Optics are everything. Now, I'm not talking about to the fans,
I'm not talking about the media. I'm talking about when
you walk in there a new guy. Everybody knows Tunsel's
problem was not dedicated in the off seae. Now, he
may have been working on his own, but was very
scarce in the off season and during the season. Everybody
in the world knows that. For two or three straight seasons.
(01:49:57):
If you're talking about the biggest penalty guy league, he's
at the top of the list. So I don't mean
go in there and kiss ass and need players approval,
but they're watching young players, young linemen are watching so
great opportunity and from start fresh and say you know what,
and plus you know what a commitment in the off
season may had two years to the end of your
career to walk in the building and say, I'm doing
it a little different. Good player, But I can't get
(01:50:19):
you can't have seventeen penalties. Let me call you great,
You just can't.
Speaker 4 (01:50:22):
Damika Ryans he had some words in his final press
conference after the season came to an end, and he
had talked about guys. He wants them here, he wants
them working out because once you get to OTA's mini camp.
You're trying to catch up at that point. It's too late,
like you've just had way too much time to be
able to build up to that that you need to
be ready to go at that point. And I immediately
(01:50:43):
thought to myself, he's talking about larremy Tonson.
Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Well, if he wasn't, then then then he did put
it this way if we don't think he was, and
we're lying to ourselves. Of course, Tunsel was a part
of that, and I'm with him one hundred percent. And
like I said, I'm not big on the I don't
need to prove to you as a player in the
media or somebody proved to us. Our opinion really doesn't
matter to them. If they're playing the game right, who
(01:51:06):
cares what we think. We're not out there right, sure,
and so but we're gonna give it. That's not the
op The optics for me is, honestly, is those guys
on your team, if you can't Dan Foutsgate had a
hat on one day years ago and Fouts told me,
if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with
bull now, and he had that hat. I said, I
(01:51:27):
got a go that hat, and I was a young
player in the league. Matter of fact, I was at
SC and North Turner, who was a college teammate of
Dan's in Oregon. We went and watched Dan practice in
San Diego, and well, I was there, and you know
NorVa obviously in San Diego's my hometown, and I loved fouts.
But he had that on it and it impacted me.
And even though it was a funny hat, the truth is,
(01:51:48):
this is how Tunsel has to do it. Even if
you're not committed in the offseason, and when you walk
in the locker room in the first OTAs and you'll
have the veterans will say, oh lt is here to
do something different. Okay, he wants to recommit himself, and
I think it'll be important. Like I said, you may
not like it, you may hate it, but you got
to dazzle them with bs. Right, that's what you have
(01:52:09):
to do now and then go play good football. But
in the offseason, even just being there, even if you
don't participate much, the fact that you're present is so important.
Optics to your teammates, to me, are the best teammates
ever had. Warn Moon didn't miss offseason workouts. He didn't
have to be there, it's Warren Moon, right, Okay, but
he didn't miss. It's Bruce Tocthuse didn't miss those guys,
(01:52:29):
and they didn't need to be there. But they operated
out of the fear of and great players, a lot
of them, Michael Irvin didn't miss. They operated out of
the fear of failure, and they wanted people to know
that when we step up, here's how we do it.
Say I never missed, God rest his soul, never missed,
didn't miss and practice like he was trying to make
the Pro Bowl during walkthrough as a ten year veteran
(01:52:51):
who's going to nine Pro Bowls? Right? So the optics
to your teammates and you never question them. And if
he walks in there and misses an off season plan,
you immediately have people wondering is the guy all in?
Fool him if you have to, and that'll be a
big part of what he'll do there. And trying to
set a first impression.
Speaker 4 (01:53:10):
A couple of things from Laramie Tunssel that will carry
over to the next segment. I got that also to
see a couple of you want to get in on
the rockets on the phone lines, you want to do
that some one, three, two, one, two, five, seven ninety
as we'll close out the eight o'clock hour right here
on the Seawn Salisbury Show, Sean Tripley, Dan Matthews right
here Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:53:31):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues.
Speaker 4 (01:53:33):
To Dodgers take out the Cubs four to one. They're
in Tokyo. Going to get to Laramie Tunsel here in
just a second. But Brandon, you've been patiently waiting, buddy,
what's going on?
Speaker 13 (01:53:47):
I'm doing okay. I watched listen to the some of
the Rockets game on seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:53:56):
Yeah, I mean that was an exciting finish, wasn't that.
Matt and Aacy they're having some fun.
Speaker 13 (01:54:02):
Yeah, Matt is so funny.
Speaker 4 (01:54:06):
He's the best. Love love sports empty. He's on ten
to two later on the.
Speaker 13 (01:54:10):
Day, and I was watching the audio. I missed the
audio a couple weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (01:54:22):
Oh yeah, well, I mean you got one more week two.
Speaker 4 (01:54:24):
I get out there and enjoy all the fun that's
out there, bull riding, what's it roping? And then you
get the concerts, well most of them at least.
Speaker 10 (01:54:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:54:36):
Are you going to be coming to the Are you
going to the audio?
Speaker 4 (01:54:39):
I think I'm gonna miss this year, buddy, just you know,
with the show and not only that, just trying to
come down from the spring Woodlands area.
Speaker 3 (01:54:47):
It's it's kind of tough. But I'll definitely see you
out there next year.
Speaker 4 (01:54:51):
Okay, all right, buddy, all right, buddy, we'll talk to
you tomorrow. Okay, all right, all right, see you buddy.
Oh sorry, Brandon, Uh but yeah, at least you know,
got one more week of the rodeo. Still going rockets
last night as uh, Brandon got out there too. Yeah,
(01:55:11):
he's a you're you're out there. You definitely know where
he is. Uh, let's keep the conversation going. Aggie Doug
wants the.
Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
Way in here. On Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 15 (01:55:22):
Brows Man, what a game last night. He's talking about
a lucky seven on Saint Patrick's Day. So, I mean,
we were tweeting back and forth, you know, when it
went to twenty five. Ever, everybody on my you know
text train that was like, man, this.
Speaker 13 (01:55:36):
Is a bad loss.
Speaker 15 (01:55:37):
It's eig milionating. Even been to Bo's saying this is
going to be the worst loss in franchise history, and
so uh but it just it's so interesting to have
x up whenever things like this are happening, because it's like,
you know, you start seeing the big emojis and then
gets to ten and then he starts seeing the this
actually happened. Then we tie it at the end of
(01:55:59):
the third order, and man, I mean then you go
and they go up by ten again, and you're like, oh,
you know, we waste all its energy just trying to
get back. And man, I am so excited about the
Rockets right now because I've been watching them all year,
but this is the first time that I've ever really
seen them just with that gut check moment to where
(01:56:19):
they're all just in for each other and it just
it just seems like this is such a team. And
I completely get where Demiico's coming from with culture, because
I think that's why the Rockets didn't actually make a move,
because you don't want to upset this culture in any way,
shape or form. These young guys, which actually they feed into,
(01:56:40):
you know, the older guys with Dylan Brooks and Fred
van Fleet, because those are just dogs. I mean, they're
just they just seem like angry human beings. I don't
want to run into those guys off the court because
they just seem like they're just mad all the time,
and I just love it. But I don't know, guys,
I mean, are y'all seeing the same kind of stuff
that I guess I'm getting the kind of the same
(01:57:01):
kind of feels that I got whenever the ninety fourteen
started to turn that corner and and you know, they
they they just started, you know, jelling, And obviously was
the guy that was amazing that they deferred to Jabbari
Smith when he was hot. I mean that that never happens.
It's like they finally just realized, Hey, let's just ride
(01:57:23):
the hot hand. And and Jabbari just had a game
last night. Man, I'm just so excited about the Rockets
and I just can't wait for the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:57:32):
Doug, You're a one hundred percent correct brother, I and
I think a lot of that has to do. You
talked about the the Texans and Jamiico Ryan's culture that
this is it has you have to have buy in.
And there were times in the last you know, last year,
did you want to does Jalen Green buy in? Right?
Does does he buy in? Or are you going to
(01:57:52):
move him? They decided not to look look at the
dividends that there's something different about coaches that can see
that that we can't. And even if you can see
it a little thing like last night when you say
tonight's Jabbari's night. Matter of fact, it looked like the
Jabari Smith that you thought when you were gonna get
a three and D guy play right when he came
out of Auburn Am I correct, yes, And then but
(01:58:14):
it's been a different guy every night. So that's the
culture of egos aren't getting in the way. One night
is Shan guon, then it's you know, then it's Jalen
Green and Jabbar. I mean, it's been different people regularly
this year coming in. And then the ability to understand
when to put Shangun back on at the end of
the game when you needed to get to the offensive
glass and needed to sit him down late to get
(01:58:36):
proper defense. So I, yeah, I see the Doug. I
see it now. I don't know, and I don't think
any of us do. Sometimes being younger, and when I
say naive that, you're like, you're not intimidated by the moment,
because sometimes you can you see young teams like they
don't know what they don't know, and so you go
the maturity's growing. Wins like that, after getting your ass
(01:58:59):
completely kicked and still coming back to win, and like
you said, everybody, I mean, we got you left for
dead last night and to find a way to come
back and do it, that's a sense of maturity taking
it to another level. And it all stems from, in
my opinion, the dude who's on the bench saying unacceptable,
unacceptable until it's acceptable, and until it's acceptable, you're gonna
(01:59:21):
sit next to me or I'll just have to do it.
And it doesn't matter who gets the credit, and night
in and night outs, a lot of times it's been
another guy. We know, the consistent players, but you're not
gonna always get that from the one guy or the
two guys you want it from. And that's the difference
in this team. And the buy in starts on. Anybody
can get buy in on the offensive end. Anybody can
I can get buy a you're gonna spot up and
(01:59:43):
hit a three, or you're gonna catch and shoot, or
you're gonna, you know, attack the basket. It's the other end.
And to me, the buy in is there, and I
keep saying, well, can they beat the Nuggets? And along
can they handle Oklahoma City. I don't know, but I
can tell you this. I'm not sure you want to
play the Rockets when at their best. And when you
look over to the bench, you get a guy who
(02:00:03):
is not going to tolerate average effort. He's just not.
And that's say. This is one of the great gets
the last two years in the NBA is seeing the
force through the trees and having Udoka sitting on that bench.
Speaker 4 (02:00:14):
Well, it's another sign too that points to you to
believe that you're close to winning, is when the team
starts to add adults. And that's what they did last
All the young guys also play like adults. But you're right,
veteran guys that Doug was talking about that want to
put their foot on your throat just as soon as
quickly as they want to talk to you. And that's
my point. I mean, you add a guy like Fred
van Vliet, he's got that in him. He's got that
(02:00:36):
mother bleeper in him is what he's got, and a
ring on his finger. And Dylan Brooks the same deal.
I mean, I when when they added those guys last year,
I said it to my buddies, we've got a text
thread and I said, Oh, I get what EMA's doing here.
He's adding guys that've got some edge to him.
Speaker 3 (02:00:51):
Well doesn't he Well, and that's it. Didn't he have
it in Boston?
Speaker 4 (02:00:54):
Be So what do we talk about with players all
the time of having you know, or with coaches, managers,
head coaches, whoever it is, they want an extension of
them out there. Let me tell you saying, Hey, I
can't be the guys getting into these guys all the time.
You got to help me and and you got to
start to police yourself as well. That's what you're talking
about as far as players go. And that's why you
bring veterans in that.
Speaker 3 (02:01:12):
You're like, well, Dylan Brooks man, he's gonna get TechEd.
I mean, he's that guy, like a Rasheed Wallace, right,
this is gonna do it. One thing I do know
this on every good team I've been I talked to
you about the guys who show up. You know what else,
there's another common denominator on good teams that I've played for.
Every team has a prick. Yeah, every everything, Dylan, listen,
and I don't mean it personally. I'm talking about every
(02:01:33):
team has an at hockey agitator, a guy who can
get it but still go who's not just a goon
and a hack who can go play some basketball too.
Championship chops from Van Vliet that no situation's too big,
and it starts to permeate through the team. Every good
team I've been on, you're like, that guy's a prick.
I mean you, he's a guy you want on your team,
but when you play against him, you want to punch
(02:01:54):
him right in his friggin throat. That's exactly right. That's
what Dylan Brooks and McMahon was like that Jim was
when we played against him. I wanted This was before
I knew Jim Well, I'd met him when I was
getting recruited by BYU. He was there, and then we
went played in the NFL, and when you played against him, like,
I want to fight that prick. And because man, now
to this day he's one of my very five best
(02:02:14):
friends in the world. But Mac, then when he comes
into your locker room, you're like, Mac, I couldn't stand
your ass. And now now i'm your seat mate. We're
traveling and I don't want to go anywhere without you,
and you're my golfing buddy. But he did that guy
and then you fall in love with that and you
just kind of, you know what he does, you elevate
and Mac elevated. I watched that time and it made
(02:02:36):
everybody else elevate.
Speaker 4 (02:02:36):
I watched a documentary once on the eighty five Bears,
and it was when he had a lot of.
Speaker 3 (02:02:41):
Pricks on that team. But it cracked me up though.
Speaker 4 (02:02:44):
When he signed with the team and then he was
supposed to meet with the with the owner, I guess
it was either Allis or McCaskey, either one. They were like, oh,
he's taking a nap, and his line that the receptionist
was well, go wake him up.
Speaker 3 (02:02:55):
I got stuff to do in so many words, but
oh yeah, that's the first time I ever had a
hot dog during the game. Was in Chicago. Jimmy Mack
on the sidelines asked one of the asked the nushers, hey, man,
we're hungry, and we got us a hot dog. Because
he was not because he wanted to be a prick
even though he had that in him. He was hungry
(02:03:16):
so he figured he didn't want to wait till halftimes,
so we got a hot dog. So great teammates, but
agitators and Mac was as good as anybody at doing that.
Speaker 4 (02:03:25):
Hopefully the Rockets can parlay that and some special things
this season and beyond. G O John c you guys
right there, promise you, Jeremie Tounsel, let's hear from him.
Speaker 3 (02:03:34):
We're going to do that.
Speaker 4 (02:03:35):
To open up the nine o'clock hour as we continue
to roll along here on the Sean Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (02:03:40):
Sean Salisbury here for surt of Pro Painters surdapro dot
com for your free estimate. And every surt of Pro

love them, and cert of Pro Painters can do the

you make Houston Sports. It's got number one presage on
your car radio, and then you would improve iHeartRadio app
free never sounded so good.
Speaker 1 (02:05:10):
Salisbury olvery sby Houston.
Speaker 3 (02:05:15):
Okay, let's do this, Sewn Salisbury.
Speaker 2 (02:05:20):
To usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.
Speaker 3 (02:05:23):
Ryan Lima, go Lobo. This is the Seawan Salisbury Show,
of the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Speaker 4 (02:05:33):
Matt Thomas, Ross Villareal coming your way ten to two.
And then you get the A team a little bit
later on the day, leading me in the Astros Baseball
at four fifty They're taking on the Nationals here to
start up the final week of spring training, and we'll
have it right here on Sports Talk. Seven ninety Rockets
come back force overtime beat the Philadelphia seventy six ers
(02:05:54):
one forty four, one thirty seven. They are still the
number two seed in the Western Conference. They have won
seven straight Major League Baseball season underway between the Dodgers
and Cubs LA winning the first game of the regular
season in Tokyo four to one, and local college baseball.
Rice hires former assistant David Pearce is their new head
(02:06:16):
baseball coach and he's going to take over on Friday
when they take on FAU. He did not I thought
that he was the head coach at Texas State. He
was an assistant to the head coach, So he was
a volunteer.
Speaker 3 (02:06:29):
Yeah, kind of like allows him to get to walk
away from that and take the take the upgrade. That's
what it was. Funny.
Speaker 4 (02:06:36):
I was hired by Rice. Oh great, higher, tremendous higher.
I mean, he was a pretty much the the cog
that Drew drove that thing when he was there with
Wayne and they were going to Omaha year in and
year out, and I mean, everywhere he's been full season.
The one time that he's missed the postseason as a
head coach was twenty nineteen at Texas obviously twenty twenty
(02:06:56):
washed out for COVID, But he's been to either the
Regionals or College World Series in every single one of
those years. Really good man getting a really good upgrade, right, yeah, absolutely,
so good luck to him over there on South Maine.
All right, So, Larimie Tonsel, we talked about this a
little bit and then some of you got in. We'll
get to more of you on the phone line, see
(02:07:17):
GEO John Ronnie get to y' all here in just
a second. But as I teased it last hour, Laramie Tonsel,
you know, you hear some of the words that he
had to say to the local media up there in
the DC area yesterday talking about, you know, his start
with the Commanders and talking a little bit about his
time with the Texans. So when you mentioned Laramie Tonsel,
(02:07:40):
you mentioned penalties, and nineteen of them for ninety five
yards last year is what he had either pre snap,
in the play, whatever it was, he had a lot
of those penalties, and we didn't really hear him talk
much about it when he was with the Texans, but
he was asked about that very thing yesterday as he
starts his next stage of his career with the Commanders.
Speaker 7 (02:08:00):
Abilities I had last season was unacceptable.
Speaker 5 (02:08:02):
So that's something I want to address for So get
that number down or even having done, you know, I
want to keep going as a player, honestly, as a
pass blocker, run blocker, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 7 (02:08:13):
You know, I'm always trying to improve in each of
those fields.
Speaker 4 (02:08:18):
And that's part of his game that he is trying
to improve it. You do appreciate at least the transparency
there of him saying, yeah, those were not good. It's
obviously ran me out of favor with the fan base.
I mean, I don't think he's necessarily talking directly to
the fan base, but at least, if nothing else, there's
never just a he didn't really do anything wrong. We
just traded away one of the best left tackles in
(02:08:39):
the game.
Speaker 3 (02:08:40):
It was he knew that.
Speaker 4 (02:08:41):
That was probably a huge reason why they said I'm expensive,
I'm getting older, and oh, by the way I cost
the team on the field.
Speaker 3 (02:08:47):
Yeah, there's no doubt in nineteen nineteen of them. Now,
I want you to think about that for a second.
That's that's crazy, that that is frigging crazy. But the
maturity of a player, and if if he's got full
buying is the number one way to start getting better
at it is admit that you've got to fix it,
and then how do you go to fixing it, whether
(02:09:08):
it's technique, patience, paying a little more attention, a little
more focus, pre snap, understanding defense is a little bit better,
whatever it is that keeps you in your stance and
allows you to execut because when the ball snapped, he's
prett damn good player and we know that. Hence why
he keeps getting paid and why people want him. And
if he approaches Washington with that with Jaden Daniels and
(02:09:29):
cuts him in half, the truth is eighteen penalties or
nineteen penalties, dude, he's got to be under ten. If
he does that, it will be a huge git for Washington.
And also if he's, like I said, committed to two things,
that's all I need to see from him. Commitment in
the offseason, true commitment in the off season. The optics
are important and making sure you're listening. Nineteen penalties, it's
(02:09:52):
not this you're playing against a great player when you're
playing against an edge rusher, it's simple you're not focused. Man,
See you'd look concentrate whatever it is it's causing you
to be unfocused. The fans should have been pissed, the
organization should have because as good as he is, he
giveth and he taketh away. And nineteen penalties is about
twelve to many, ten too many. You would like him
(02:10:14):
to have the right amount of red ass. I guess
is kind of where you're going with this, and it's
in a red ass and it's got to be bright
red brother, big time.
Speaker 4 (02:10:22):
But the thing is, though, is to the points you're
talking about the offseason workouts, the penalties, where it's kind
of ah, those things work themsel on your shoulder and
it pissed off and it's just like, dude, no, like,
don't have the mindset of those things. Work themselves out,
work them out, like you're the one who can fix that.
Nobody else can fix that for you.
Speaker 3 (02:10:39):
I'll bet there's guys that don't get I mean, if
we looked at them, big time players, I'll bet you
there's some big time offensive linemen that haven't had nineteen
penalties in four years or five years, and I'll guarantee
you a guy like Bruce Matthews and my teammate, and
I'll guarantee you he didn't have nineteen fifteen pre snap
penalties in a deck pre snap So there's just it.
(02:11:03):
But listen, if you can get and here's the thing,
Huntel's issues are fixable, right, there's not you know, certain
control what you can control. You can't control how good
Michael Parsons is off the edge of Miles Garrett. Look, guys,
they're getting paid two and they're pretty damn good. But
what you can control is it ain't hard to show
up in the offseason, buddy, Right, that's easy. So that's
(02:11:24):
the easiest one to control. And discipline and paying attention
and concentration. Most pre snap penalties aren't because you're afraid
of the guy who's gonna beat you to the quarterback.
You know what it is, it's lack of concentration and focus.
And he's thirty one, he's not twenty two. But the
fact that he addressed it and says, you know, got
to get better, got to cut that down, and he
said and maybe have none, Well he's not going to
(02:11:46):
go through the season without any But I can and
if it is a penalty, you know what penalty I
want from him if I'm Washington, a personal foul penalty
where somebody is cheap shot in his quarterback and he
has to go No, no, no, you're not sending that
to me. You're not doing that here. I'll take that
any of the frigging week, but not the not the
ones you can control that you go from third and
seven to third and twelve and then you get a
(02:12:08):
ten yard completion and you're still punting. Not good, but
you got to appreciate a good player here. But they
needed to move on and he needed to change and
it'll be good for both. Talent wasn't the issue.
Speaker 4 (02:12:19):
I mean, that's what they'll be with, right and and
that's the thing that I totally getting paid no, and
I mean getting paid handsomely too, because of how good
he is when the ball is actually in play, because
most of his issues were a pre snap as you mentioned.
But with Tunsel continuing on, I mean, he's been traded before.
It's not something that's lost on him. But this time
being sent from the Texans, he says his views on
(02:12:42):
his former team, no hard feelings.
Speaker 7 (02:12:44):
I actually and I talked to those guys pretty much.
Speaker 5 (02:12:48):
They're just trying to keep the young guys together as
simple as that. You know, they drafted some young guys
and they hit on every draft pick. You know, they
trying to keep those guys together. So I absolutely understand.
They just stingly today they just gave up. So I
truly understand. Like it's no hard feeling at the end
of the day, It's a business, you know what I mean.
Don't take anything personally. There's no heart feelings. It gets
(02:13:09):
the Houston Texas. You know, I think I just put
me in this position and I think of everything they
did for me and my family and changing my life.
Speaker 8 (02:13:17):
So I get it.
Speaker 3 (02:13:19):
Man.
Speaker 5 (02:13:19):
When I was with Miami, I didn't get the courtesy
card for Miami. You know, I kind of woke up
by my nap and got traded. So at least this
time was a little bit different.
Speaker 3 (02:13:28):
It's a business.
Speaker 4 (02:13:29):
And he even had talked about and I cut it
out of that cut, but talking about Mike Pouncy, Jamon
bush Rod kind of telling them like, hey, you can't
take it personal. They can cut you in any moment.
And we know one thing that is actually two things
that are bad to be in this league old and expensive.
And you heard the first part that he said right
there of talking with Tamika Ryans and Nick Cassario, it was, Hey,
(02:13:51):
we like your play, that's not the issue. But like
it or not, the money you're making and the player
that you are, you've got to be more of an
example for those.
Speaker 3 (02:14:00):
Well, if you're getting paid, the expectations raise more pressure
on you to play better football because if you don't,
that pay works at it. Now you set your family
up for life, but that pay works a disadvantage for
you because you're the first one to go see you
better be productive, and you better be extra productive when
you go. Washington's getting a good football player. We'll find
(02:14:21):
out if what happened here and the penalties really did impact.
He should go there with a chip on his shoulder
because when you get moved, they're telling you the values
more value getting rid of you than keeping that. That's
what they're telling you, Whether you like it or not,
that's exactly what they're saying. So now he's got a
chance to go and he's in the prime of his career,
and he's going to a good team that's well coached
and like here, he's got one hell of a quarterback
(02:14:43):
to protect on a regular basis.
Speaker 4 (02:14:45):
All right with the Texans. The offensive line is not
the only overhaul that's happening over there. Something else that
happened yesterday that tells you there is more a foot
over on Kirby. We'll do that on the other side also,
Tony John, Ronnie, see you all right there, you want
join them? Seon one three two one two five seven ninety.
Once again, that's se one three two one two five
seven nine zero. We continue on here on the Sean
(02:15:07):
Salisbury Show.
Speaker 3 (02:15:10):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continues, and it no no now
you know, Astros take on the Nationals today. Great Fruit
League action.
Speaker 4 (02:15:21):
We'll have that starting at four point fifty right here
on Sports Talk seven ninety and uh, the Major League
Baseball season underway. The Dodgers with a four to one
win over the Cubs in Tokyo, and the Texans adding
veteran corner Ronald Darby on a one year, two point
five million dollar deal yesterday. No, if some of you
went to weigh in on the phone lines, we'll do
(02:15:42):
that right now. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. Let's start it off on the Northwest side.
John here on Salisbury Show John, what's going on?
Speaker 11 (02:15:51):
Bell Spellos, Good morning morning, hey man. Look, I have
a couple of comments about hy Tunsil and Shults, but
I mainly called in about the Rockets. I'm gonna make
it quick, you know, laughing me right by one thing.
It is a business, and uh, you know, I wishing
real good luck over there, because you know, I assumed
(02:16:12):
that that itch was coming. He was getting ready to
asks for some more money pretty soon. So they had
to do something, you know, to.
Speaker 8 (02:16:19):
Keep these young guys together.
Speaker 14 (02:16:20):
Now, Shultz, that's a tough one. He the money he
making for what he showed. I mean, I can't stand
his lack of effort on on on block. And if
we can just run him off too. We got the
other tight ends coming back and the slot receiver they
picked up from the Jaguars. He pretty well can do
what Shults do and even better. So I'd like to
(02:16:41):
see that happen. But on the Rockets. The Rockets bringing
me back to the NBA. Sean, they bringing me back
that game last night.
Speaker 3 (02:16:50):
That is the best, loved man, How is that?
Speaker 14 (02:16:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:16:57):
This group of.
Speaker 14 (02:16:58):
Rockets, that's the best. That's when Dave had. Now, I
know Philadelphia didn't have all their starters, but still yesterday,
being down twenty five points, these fellows right here wouldn't
have never came back from that. And I'm gonna tell you, man,
these guys I've been knowing it ever, even when we
had the other coach before a Doka. These guys right here, man,
(02:17:21):
these are.
Speaker 16 (02:17:22):
Some very talented guys. Basketball was my sport when I
was a kid, my main sport. These guys are talented.
And like one of the players said, you can count
all the way down to.
Speaker 14 (02:17:33):
Eleven and twelve. Those guys could all be stars on
another team. All I was telling the guys are there,
say the only thing they have to do is realize
how talented they are. They realize how talent they are.
They're young, but they can win the West, Man, and
they can go in the playoffs. They remind me of
the Boston Selfics that won the championship. Those guys when
(02:17:57):
they were just getting drafted. They talented, man, And I
was wrong about a Doka. A Doki is a good coach. Hey,
y'all have a good day, mate, Thanks John.
Speaker 3 (02:18:06):
Appreciate it, John.
Speaker 4 (02:18:06):
He's right on, man, And It's also you know, as
John was talking right there, what it kind of reminded
me of is last night's win. It got you back
for the second loss you had to the Brooklyn Nets
up there in Brooklyn where you're up by six seconds left.
They hit a three and then you can't get the
ball unbounded. But then when you do, it gets picked
off and they fire up a three and you're just like,
(02:18:28):
you got to be kidneying, man. But that's what the
Rockets did last night. I mean, it's one of those
trap you know, if it gets to a point you
got a foul and then Jalen Green jumping up and
we were talking about earlier of the veteran guys trying
to bring the edge to this team. How about Jalen
Green last night mixing it up and then still being
fiery on the bench afterwards. Like that had to be
(02:18:48):
kind of a proud moment for not only Ema Udoka,
but also you got to believe that Fred van Vliet's
been on him.
Speaker 3 (02:18:53):
You gotta believe that there you got outside the box
saying like we know that you have this in you
bring now let's go. And you know what technical I'm
talking about. It time if you get a technical foul
along the way, as long as it doesn't put the
team in the back. And last night would have been
a You don't need to get ejected from stuff like
that in a game like that because they needed him.
You don't want to put your team in mind. But
(02:19:14):
there's a time and a place where fire and and
and a little red ass is a good thing.
Speaker 4 (02:19:19):
How about Dylan Brooks too? After that when they you
know what you're getting there, bro, He's firing up the crowd,
telling telling Toyota Center, Hey, let's go. Dylan Brook's doing that.
That that's him, man, which is a good thing. Hey,
you know, I mean he very much is a wrestling
heels and when you got to have him, but when
he's facing your favorite baby face, you're like, gotta hate
(02:19:41):
that guy.
Speaker 3 (02:19:41):
But then maybe I've told you last so I said,
everybody needs one of those guys. You can't stand, but
they're good at getting in your head and you want
them on your team. When when the decision to bring
him here, I remember the officer that people were saying,
oh my gosh, what are we going to do? You
heard it. It's the guy that hit Lebron and now
you're saying, so glad he's a part of this team
(02:20:03):
because you need I promise you too, I'll bet you anything.
On the practice court, both him and Van Vliet bring
out some stuff and bullet and I'll bet you they
test them and challenge them regularly.
Speaker 4 (02:20:15):
Apparently the practices when he and Steven Adams were together
in Memphis, they were legendary for that very reason.
Speaker 3 (02:20:20):
Well there and basketball thrown. Not leave him out of
it either, that they may maybe a little bit of
a tie up after a you know, a contest for
a rebounds once in a while.
Speaker 4 (02:20:30):
Hell yeah, why not? And you got that guy here
and hurt anybody now with you? No, you definitely love
having those guys on your side. Let's continue with Ronnie
wants the way in here on Sports Talk seven to ninety. Ronnie,
what's going on?
Speaker 14 (02:20:42):
Good morning, guys.
Speaker 17 (02:20:44):
I've got a couple of questions on my mind that
sugged me for years, and I just never asked anybody
who really knows. Why Dayton every year for the play
And I don't know. The NCAA doesn't like to call
him play in games, but that's what I'll always call him,
play in games. Why Dayton every year.
Speaker 3 (02:21:03):
I've never done. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 17 (02:21:07):
I guess it's because it's the easy place to get to.
You know, you can you got to fly from Montana.
You can find a way to get there.
Speaker 14 (02:21:13):
Whatever.
Speaker 3 (02:21:13):
Yeah, we'll go with that. Yeah, I don't know. The
reason is maybe kind of the middle of the kind
of you know, kind of where you can get to it.
And maybe they just like the facility and maybe it's
just become tradition and habit where that's where we're having it.
It's there. Yeah, we know where to go, that's right.
Speaker 10 (02:21:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (02:21:30):
And another thing, I of course, and Shaun, I told
you this. You know, I'm blind. I don't look at
the brackets. I don't get them. You know, read to
me or I get them. But it's like, why is
it that somebody that wins in Dayton gets to be
the number twelve seed in a given region? Why to me?
These games?
Speaker 14 (02:21:50):
Though?
Speaker 17 (02:21:51):
Of course I'm a fan of the kiss Smith and
keep it simple, stupid, The people who win these four
games in Dayton ought to be the sixteenth seed in each.
Speaker 3 (02:22:00):
Of the four breads. Right, I've said that. I'm with you, Ronnie. Yeah,
now listen, I may not be smart. I mean, I'd
like to think I know a little math. I may
not be smart enough to figure this out, and somebody's
got the answer out there. I get it. You got yeah,
of course that's what you brought. But that was a
good math. But at a certain point I said, this
trigonometry stuff, I'm done. It's not gonna help me and
my stuff that helped me talk on the air, I
(02:22:21):
don't need that from my I'm not an architect or
somebody that's going to handle your money or whatever it is.
But Ronnie is so right. It seems logical if you're
trying to play your way in your ass is the
sixteen seed? I think where I'm just waiting on you, Okay,
I'm wait, who am I playing it?
Speaker 6 (02:22:38):
Just?
Speaker 3 (02:22:38):
I don't get the reward. It's it's weird to me.
You get rewarded for being a team that wasn't good
enough to get in in the first in the sixty four?
Does that make I mean, originally, does that makes sense?
I Ronnie am with you, and there's probably a very
simple answer. I don't have it.
Speaker 4 (02:22:56):
Ronnie appreciate the call and stuff. The only thing I
can think of is, you know, just with all the
net ratings and all those things. I get right has
the answer and you and C. I mean that's why
they're in despite what their record was against quad is.
They were I think in net thirty six. So people
are like, right, so they get in. It just does
It seems like the simple math would be we got
(02:23:20):
sixty teams, right, because we got sixty eight before we
get to sixty four. Right, right, we've got sixty eight
teams if you haven't played our sixty teams waiting on
these winners.
Speaker 3 (02:23:33):
Yeah, and you're playing Duke Houston the Auburn in Florida.
It seems like that would be the logical thing. None
of your two of those number one that then you're like,
the hell did we do to deserve this?
Speaker 8 (02:23:48):
Right?
Speaker 3 (02:23:49):
It's just it's it's it's pretty odd though, right, It
trips me out, But hey, uh, I just know that
on Thursday, we'll have sixty four teams and it's a
sixty four. Right, it's sixty four you gotta win to
you gotta win six to win it all. So let's go. Man,
The math is simple on that one.
Speaker 14 (02:24:05):
Yee.
Speaker 4 (02:24:06):
We don't we don't need square roots, we don't need
all that kind of stuff, you know, I was just
thinking about it right there. Of you know how you
had to learn like Kingdom, file them and all that
stuff in biology.
Speaker 3 (02:24:15):
I'm not a doctor. I'm not a veterinarian, Jim. I'm
a doctor, not a doctor. You're in a house of
learning doctors.
Speaker 4 (02:24:22):
Someone even say too, That's that's what Dale Doback tried
to tell Brennan, and at least he somewhat listened to
what he had to say on that. Let's squeeze in
one more Tony and Angleton here on Sports Talk seven
ninety Tony, what's going on?
Speaker 18 (02:24:36):
Hey Dan, welcome to the Salisbury Show. That's up, buddy,
You're you're in good hands man, Thank you, Tony. The
basketball game last night was crazy, wasn't it.
Speaker 8 (02:24:45):
It was unbelievable. I thought it was over.
Speaker 18 (02:24:49):
I think a lot of people thought it was over.
It's just baskets pro basketball, man.
Speaker 5 (02:24:53):
It was.
Speaker 8 (02:24:54):
It's a lot of fun. I'm starting like I'm with John. John.
Speaker 18 (02:24:58):
John was an excellent caller, man, because he's that he's
starting to come back to basketball, and I think he's
with I'm with I'm in his camp. I'm starting to
come back to basketball as well, they just got to
get this replaced stuff. Fis uh, you can't eject you
can't eject ben Leep for that foul.
Speaker 8 (02:25:15):
That's that's ridiculous.
Speaker 18 (02:25:16):
Man.
Speaker 8 (02:25:17):
That happens all the time in basketball, that's a fact.
It does.
Speaker 18 (02:25:22):
It just and especially in that part of the game.
It's just I think I think he said something to
one of the officials. They missed it. They missed a foul,
the foul call. I think he said something choice and
that and.
Speaker 3 (02:25:30):
It just you know, escalated a lot a lot of times,
that'll get him more than the foul itself, you know
what I mean, Tony. That's usually you know, when you
when you make the derogatory comment. I don't know what
he did, but derogatory it's like a player at the plate.
You look at him and stare at him. It's one thing,
and then you call him an mf ors and that
probably gets you. Heaved, right, So whatever that is.
Speaker 8 (02:25:49):
But so so let's let's talk about the Texans.
Speaker 18 (02:25:52):
They they've already we talked about that showing the first
cut was one of the tackle one of the goers
of tackles. Now they've they've they've gotten rid of four
of those guys. And if you remember back during the season,
every time they would show Jamiko on the sidelines, I'd
look at his face, and every time that quarterback would
get hit, I know.
Speaker 8 (02:26:10):
What was going through his mind.
Speaker 3 (02:26:11):
He was keeping score.
Speaker 8 (02:26:15):
I can't wait until the offseason. I'm gonna get rid
of every one of these guys. Man, and then you
and then you mentioned this morning how many how many
pre snaps?
Speaker 3 (02:26:22):
Eighteen, well, nineteen penalties, and I'm gonna, I don't know
that it had to be what four better than a
dozen pre snap penalties the majority of one?
Speaker 18 (02:26:32):
Yeah, yeah, unacceptable. Finally, let's talk about the Astros. I
think Zach Decinzo has done enough to make this team.
I think, uh, I think I don't think he can
send camp Smith the triple A. If if he fails
here in right field, then you send him down.
Speaker 8 (02:26:47):
But I don't. I think he's made the ball club.
I think people are.
Speaker 18 (02:26:50):
Gonna be I think people are gonna be very very,
very very happy with west Nesky, the kid we got
back from the Cubs. I think he's gonna he's gonna
fill a spot in the rotation. It's just gonna come
down to pitching.
Speaker 8 (02:27:02):
Boys.
Speaker 18 (02:27:02):
You know that if we get to pitch and right,
I think some of these young guys are gonna step
up and we're.
Speaker 8 (02:27:08):
Gonna be just fine.
Speaker 3 (02:27:10):
Appreciate the call, Tony.
Speaker 4 (02:27:12):
You know, when it comes to cam Smith, that is
something that I did want to weigh in here because
we did talk about it yesterday and we were in
agreement on something. But I feel like there's a little
bit of an exit ramp that might see. Is so
a little bit of disagreement there are you? Okay, let
me ask you this. You think tell me, well, when
we come back, I want to hear you. Tell me,
(02:27:32):
tell me what you think they're gonna do, and tell me.
Speaker 3 (02:27:35):
What you want to do. I want you to be
a spot to a Spota and Dana Brown we come back.
But also in both ways, you're the one making the
decision and you're also the one telling me what decision
they're gonna make. I want to know if they're different
from you.
Speaker 4 (02:27:47):
That's a tease that's right here, Sean Salisbury, show the
voice you just heard that, Sean Triple, Emmanuel Elmore, Dan Matthews,
Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 3 (02:27:55):
Ninety, Men's T Clinic, MEN'ST Clinic dot Com. Fellas here
you almost send you a simple messa, You sluggish, you struggling,
you made you know what, We're already in March. How

wellness optimization. And now March seventeenth, eighteenth, you're like, I
(02:28:21):
need men's tea clinic. Well, here we are, let's get
it done. Energy. You don't have to settle for low testosterone.
And it may very simply be that. How about your

mama when she said what happened? So, whether it's sexual wellness,
full body wellness, there's so many different products and ways
(02:28:41):

T Clinic take care of you five convenient locations. I
don't know what you're waiting on. We invest in a
lot of things in life, we do. Are you investing

letting slide by and say I'll get it three months
from now while all your buddies are passing you by
and Mama's side eye on you better fix it. And
(02:29:25):
Men's T Clinic can help. You don't have to stay
stuck in lower gear. So why would you you want
twelve cylinders? Men's Tea Clinic can help. MEN'ST Clinic dot com,
MEN'ST Clinic dot com. That's MEN'ST Clinic dot com. The
Sewn Salisbury Show continued.
Speaker 4 (02:29:43):
I was listening to Rogan once and he had Luke
Combs on with them, and he was talking about if
you listen to music on a boat like that shows
you how much of a banger it is, because you're
already wanting to be in a good mood because you're
on a boat. Yeah, and they were talking, we're on
a boat, right, yeah, country music, you know, just any
any of that music. And I just once they said that,
(02:30:04):
I was like, that's a really good point because you're
you know, you're not you're not listening to I don't know,
to throw out, you know, something that you wouldn't necessarily
go to as being like, oh man, they put out
some bangers.
Speaker 3 (02:30:15):
You're not listening to that on boat. And the truth
is you're on the water, little cocktail, you with your
but that it's usually it's a feel good thing, right,
and you got it. And everybody said the sun's out
and you're and guns are out, you know what I mean?
Dan o, Yeah, you say I got your Danny dan O, Dan,
I'm all of these you know, heavy D that's it. Uh,
(02:30:37):
that's you.
Speaker 4 (02:30:38):
I gotta be your rap nickname, right, Maybe so little D.
I'm not that one, not that little No. No, that
just doesn't sit well with you. It just it doesn't
portray the right image.
Speaker 3 (02:30:50):
And you know with with with heavy D L I L.
I'm trying. I'm trying to be less heavy D.
Speaker 8 (02:30:55):
Well.
Speaker 3 (02:30:55):
I wasn't talking about wait, just it kind of fits
when you have the first name D. It's like heavy
has to go in, right, And it even like like
if you were yeah, if you were like one hundred
and twenty five pounds, Yeah you still got called a
heavy D. Right. It just kind of fits. I mean,
at least if nothing else, you fake it till you
make it there. You know, throw throw out the right
bangers when you're on the boat. You got to have
a banger. You have to have because you go in
(02:31:17):
in a good mood and you don't want something to
ruin the good.
Speaker 4 (02:31:19):
Right, that's a good call by Yeah, the key to
a boat, get on the boat, go out safely, come back.
Speaker 3 (02:31:24):
That was who said that to Rogan Colmes. Yeah, didn't
Colebs play football? Oh you or something? No, he played
football somewhere. I think he went to ECU, so maybe
he did there. I thought I thought he played I
thought that he was a football player somewhere. Maybe it
was uh no, I'll tell you who it was. It
was Lee Brice. Yes, he played in Oklahoma. If I'm
not mistaken, that's a good call.
Speaker 4 (02:31:43):
And then I'm trying to think who played quarterback at UNC.
But anyway to answer your question, what I think the
Astros are going to do.
Speaker 3 (02:31:52):
Yeah, astros, first you are you were judging from here
what Dana Brown and Joe Spot are going to do
with Cam Smith.
Speaker 4 (02:31:59):
They're going to take the sixty five. They're going to
take the exit ramp. And here's why sixty five to
send him to the miners. Send them to the minors,
because they're going to give Jake Myers and Chas McCormick.
It's one spot between two guys. They're going to give
them a month to see what they have. And if
the struggles continue with the plates, if you just you know,
(02:32:23):
not getting enough out of them, much more than the
defensive work, the speed, then they are going to send
him down, get him some work in right field with
the hope that somebody is going to be ready to
take over center field. And he plays right field after
you give him a handful of games down there to
really figure out right field.
Speaker 3 (02:32:42):
Okay, now, I just hired you to be the GM
and the manager. You're both Dana Brown and Joe Spot.
I'm trying to win ball. We're sitting in a room,
not on a boat, or we can be sitting on
a boat. I say, hey, man, what do you guys think?
What do we do with Cam What are you telling me?
As Dan Matthews is the general manager in the bank
and the manager front office.
Speaker 4 (02:33:01):
Dan, I'm having him up here because, like I said,
I need bats in that lineup. I've got enough defense.
What about the fan, Dan Matthews, what are you doing?
I want him here, Absolutely, you do, because you've seen
what he's done, You've seen the at bats, you've seen
the maturity and everything that you've heard about that you
feel like he's ready to go.
Speaker 3 (02:33:18):
And here's the other part of this. The hardest decision.
I mean, in rep is this the hardest decision they
have in spring training?
Speaker 4 (02:33:23):
I don't think so, just because of the time that
they have of being able to give him more minor
league seasons.
Speaker 3 (02:33:29):
It's no rush.
Speaker 4 (02:33:30):
There is no rush because it becomes a numbers game
at this point. You're wanting to make sure, Hey, let's
exhaust every single option out of the guy that doesn't
have any more options as opposed to I can take
that exit ramp, I can come back and pick him
up and we're able to keep going from there.
Speaker 3 (02:33:44):
I'm a greedy bastard, though, right I want him here.
I get the greed of seeing him go through the
good stuff, seeing him go through the tough at bats
and just watching it grow and kind of mushroom right
in front of us, the good stuff. Right, So that
greedy bastard part of me says, I don't want to
see him down at Triple A. I want him right now,
and I actually kind of want to test his metal.
(02:34:05):
You're varukasl you want it now? I do. It is true.
It's the way I feel. I don't know if I'm
gonna get my I'm getting my wish at some point
this year.
Speaker 4 (02:34:14):
You just don't want to be Gunter falling into the
little chocolate river there and then get sucked up the pipe.
Speaker 3 (02:34:19):
That's that's what you don't want. No, that isn't it.
If it's a good chocolate, I ain't get sucked up anywhere. Brother,
I'm basking in it. So yeah, well you know my answer. Yeah,
I'm gonna You're probably right, but I'm going to say
that the tough decision says keep him here, because even
the optics to the fans, even though you can't make
decisions based on us optics, say what are you doing?
(02:34:43):
But the other side say, okay, it's not a far
trip down the fifty nine sixty nine to get the
sugar Land right. So I'm just the greedy part of
me says, I want him in there. I want him
to start, and i want him hitting in the sixth
hole and let's go play. That's just me. You'd love
to have it now.
Speaker 4 (02:34:56):
But sometimes patients pays off, especially in baseball, and maybe
that will be the case with the Astros. All right,
coming up next, a little bit of Texans there with
just the thought process behind some of their moves this offseason,
and maybe even two mix in something interesting said by
one of the participants in the play playoff yesterday at
(02:35:16):
the Players Championship. We'll try to mix that in before
we close up shop here on a Tuesday edition to
the Shawn Salisbury Show, We Want.
Speaker 3 (02:35:25):
To Win Sean Salisbury continues on seven ninety Kyle Tucker
oh for three in his Cub's debut, and the Texans
do sign a veteran corner Ronald Darby, And tonight a
couple of games of the NCAA Tournament getting underway.
Speaker 4 (02:35:41):
Get Saint Francis Alabama State in the sixteen game and
then the twelve between UNC and San Diego State. So
that is so what we've got, by the way to
the audience is awesome, you know, throwing out quarterbacks that
then became country music stars, which got how what a
hard life is?
Speaker 5 (02:35:59):
That is?
Speaker 4 (02:36:00):
Oh well, they weren't the starter there. They through the football,
They played guitar. I think they did pretty well with
the ladies.
Speaker 3 (02:36:06):
And at SC it didn't matter if you're the fifth
string quarterback of the first I'm just speaking at our
they were pulling. It didn't matter.
Speaker 4 (02:36:15):
Sam, it didn't matter. You mentioned who played at Oklahoma?
You said Lee Brice, Yeah, Lee Bryce at Oklahoma? What
was it Lisa throwing out Riley Green played quarterback at
Jacksonville State? And then I was thinking who played quarterback
at U A B? Sam Hunt? House party?
Speaker 3 (02:36:32):
Yourself? Be a barty. Yeah, there you go, And who
pulls more? Lee Brice, Riley Green or Sam Hunt. It's
a no brainer, isn't it?
Speaker 8 (02:36:48):
Isn't it?
Speaker 3 (02:36:49):
Riley's?
Speaker 4 (02:36:50):
Riley's the hot one right now, right Riley? Not in
terms of looks. I'm saying that he's the hot one
right now. In terms of the hits. Yeah, well, but
he's top of mind.
Speaker 3 (02:37:01):
So I mean, our guy Brian Oliemo would probably think
he's a smoke show. I probably would, Brian says, jacked.
He's probably know Brian would love it. Matter in fact,
I think you appreciate. Brian told me whenever he thinks
of Riley Green, he got bricked up. I hope he's
I know, the tight pants, the pants get a little tighter. Yeah,
(02:37:22):
he's like, you know, he's no Ella Langley, but who is?
Speaker 7 (02:37:25):
You know?
Speaker 4 (02:37:25):
I think uh, I think that probably right now, Riley
is the one that probably gets the engines right.
Speaker 3 (02:37:31):
Okay for San's good word, by the way, sans Riley Green,
Lee Brice or Sam Hunt? Who pulls my walk into
a bar? Two guys walk into a bar. That's that's
a good one right there in a city that can't
be in the South where they know all time country music.
You got to walk into Minneapolis, or walk into a
(02:37:53):
ski resort in Vermont? Who pulls Boston? Somewhere? Philly? Who
pulls more? Probably Sam? You're going Sam Hunt? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:38:00):
I mean you know he's written songs about partying, so
he's got that in them too.
Speaker 8 (02:38:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:38:04):
But also you got the there's a rumor going round
yeah little Lee Bryce, Yeah, quick sidebar. We had a
caller over the break his name was Paul. He said
that Lee Bryce, he went to Clemson. Ah, who did
you did?
Speaker 8 (02:38:21):
Luke?
Speaker 14 (02:38:22):
Then?
Speaker 3 (02:38:22):
Who were did? Who played at Oklahoma? I thought that.
I thought that. We said we got to get we
got time for Andy real quick, Andy, come on in
man for sec which what you got for us? Brother?
Speaker 8 (02:38:32):
What's up.
Speaker 10 (02:38:34):
You?
Speaker 15 (02:38:35):
Mention Matthews earlier? Ali went back eight years and eight years,
one hundred and twenty, one hundred and twelve games.
Speaker 3 (02:38:41):
He had thirty eight penalties, so tons was halfway there.
Speaker 15 (02:38:48):
Yeah, tunsl in forty games.
Speaker 8 (02:38:52):
Forty penalties.
Speaker 3 (02:38:53):
There you go, big difference, hence ones in the Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 8 (02:38:56):
There you go, got you just a little different.
Speaker 11 (02:38:59):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (02:39:00):
I'll talk to you tomorrow. Eddie. There I go, There
we go. You know, I mean we can't find so
so Lee Brice is a Clemson guy? Yeah, I guess. Yeah,
Clemson who went to Oklahoma played. We'll have to figure
that out. Yeah, we will regard it. Clemson Oklahoma extended
tass coach at both right, six enough, that's it. Yeah,
there you go, Venables coaching both. There's our connects.
Speaker 10 (02:39:21):

Speaker 3 (02:39:21):
