Speaker 1 (00:02):
Saulsbury.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh, okay, let's do this Sewn Salisbury to usc Troup's
longtime friend Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Dan Matthew, excuse, this is the Sewan Salisbury show.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Uh wins their opening round game seventy eight forty over
SIU Edwards Phil Gonzaga next tomorrow in the round of
thirty two Rockets in Miami tonight for the Heat looking
to make it nine straight wins. And Jake Myers homers
yesterday for the Astros and an eleven nothing win against
the Marlins. Sean is third of the spring. Maybe maybe

(00:46):
we've been burying Jake too early.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
Here mabeh, whoa, whoa, Wait a minute, Dan, go good morning.
First off, of course, good morning, Mary, good morning. Yesays
well wait wait Dan, you can't say that Wall. It's spring.
That's it. Well, well so we can't say I'm not
saying you, but the overall oh well, Cam Smith, Homers,
Homer's owners all. But it's just spring. You're not getting

(01:09):
real big league pitching. You don't get to face the
Dodgers or the Yankees or the Texas Rangers starting pitching
every day or Seattle. But if Jay kids it, well,
maybe maybe he's gonna Jake Myers ain't hitting two seventy five,
and you and I both know it. Sure, i'd love
it if he did. I want to think glass half full.

Speaker 6 (01:26):
I like it.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
My point is, I'm not taking that we're good for him.
I'd love to see his bad awaken. I don't care
who it's against. She's still got to put the bat
on the ball. That's why I always say when people say, yeah,
well steroids when Barry Bonds, I understand you may not
go four twenty, it goes for seventy. But at no
point in time have I ever had a guy come
up to me who's been on the juice or done
all that said, you.

Speaker 6 (01:47):
Know what, man, my eyes are improved. I all of
a sudden, you start hitting the baby. It's the weird
You hit one hundred. It's weird.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
I can see it now, the laces and I can
see the space your ass. Only Toty Quid and Ted
Williams could do that. Okay, So my point is with this, yeah,
you still gotta put the bat on the ball. Like
with Bonds never had warning track power before he was
His ball is going five hundred instead of forty. But
in this case, anytime somebody puts about of them all
on Homer's I'm like, okay, does that spring board?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
It?

Speaker 5 (02:20):
No pun intended with spring training. But see what I
remember why I said, everyone, ooh, Jake Homer again. Maybe
we're gonna get some hits at him. But when Cam
still send him down, it's minor league pitching. We're not
allowed to do it.

Speaker 6 (02:29):
Really.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
So I hope you're right, but I think here's where
you make a big mistake. All of us are expectations
of others, your expectations of yourself.

Speaker 6 (02:38):
Can You'll always get disappointed.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
Sure, you will always get disappointed if your expectation of
others are huge, because find it in business or in life.
You like you're out of timeslot and you want it
done by Friday. The person you expect doesn't want to
get it done till four fridays from now, right, you
know what I'm saying, same thing here. So my expectations
for Jake Myers's play solid center field and hit well
enough to stay in the lineup. Can he will he?

(03:01):
Questions have got to be answered. I think we've seen
enough body of work to know that he's probably never
hitting three hundred. But there's something about him that continues
to have the astros say he's our starting center fielder
and that big P word I didn't mean production offensively, potential. Oh,
and it continues to give him opportunities. But I do
know this. Eventually, potential may get you in the door.

(03:24):
Production keeps you there, and that's what they're looking for.
He's fortunate right now in truth that they don't have
a monster bat that plays center field and could play
some average defense, because his defense is what keeps him
in a lineup or gets him in a lineup. His
bat's gonna be what has to keep him there because
eventually you're going to say, my center fielder can't hit

(03:44):
to seventeen to twenty one.

Speaker 6 (03:46):
Eventually he's got to give me more.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
And I mean, I mentioned what Steve Sparks had said
on a broadcast a couple of weeks ago, and it
makes so much sense if he just cuts down the strikeouts. Man,
if he just cuts that down. And I mean, I'm
not looking for the huge wing out of him, even
though he's got the power in his bats. I mean
last season he sent thirteen balls over the wall. It
was a career high, but he also hit two nineteen.

(04:09):
Last year with a six forty six ops you get
into the seven hundreds. That's that's a significant boost out
of that guy this year. And that's maybe I understand
that it's a cuss word in baseball now, but maybe
you lay one down every once in a while.

Speaker 6 (04:23):
Maybe you try to, you try to put.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
A Pushbunt't don't get the twenty twenty five baseball people
to lay one down once a right, I'm with you.
I don't understand. That's one thing you will get your
your point so valid about Meyers or anybody else? When
did we all of a sudden, I know metrics, and
the guys who graduated from Yale in Columbia and Harvard
give us the metrics. They graduate and they're in a
master's and doctorate program at twenty two years old.

Speaker 6 (04:47):
I get all that.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Coaching staffs in front offices look a lot different than
they did back back in the past. You think, yeah,
you think it almost looks like a Silicon Valley office
in there.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Well, old school guys got their degree in public administration.
Or now it's you're you're not only you own the
firm at the accounting firm, and you're the one who
put the plan together to change the programming electrics in analytics. Right,
what got you to baseball? I worked at ernstin Young There.
You didn't answer my question. Yeah, got in the baseball

(05:16):
you're not recruiting a guy who played baseball, was a scout,
went through the program and he's forty two and you say, okay,
it's time for you to be a GM or fifty.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
Now it's where'd you go school? Yale? Oh?

Speaker 5 (05:27):
Cool? What'd you study? I'm a math major. I'm accounting major.
Oh well, did you enter?

Speaker 6 (05:32):
Oh yeah?

Speaker 5 (05:33):
They wanted to hire me after my freshman year in
New York because I had a job at one of
the Big five?

Speaker 6 (05:38):
Right?

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Or are we at the Big three now? I don't
even know what we're at when it comes what was
your title I did this? Or what'd you make coming
out of school?

Speaker 6 (05:44):
About?

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Well?

Speaker 5 (05:45):
My base side was two twenty five. But you know,
through all that I did for them, I ended up
making about a half a million bucks as a rookie
in the working force. Right, Oh well, kid, Well, what
are you going to do now? Well, I'm now a
partner in the firm, and what do you want to do? Well,
I'm going to go take are thousand dollars job, one
hundred and twenty five thousand dollars job to be the
the metrics analytics guy in one and that's and before

(06:07):
you know what, they damn your own the team because
you get my point. That's what you're exactly right, the
old analytics. But think about when it switched. I don't
even know the day, but it felt like it literally
literally shifted on a dime. What is wrong I'm not
talking about bunt, bunt, punt, but what is wrong with
there's a guy on second and it's less than two outs,

(06:27):
or there's one out or there's no outs, right, and
you got an eight titter up?

Speaker 6 (06:33):
They can't bunt for squad Dude.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
When I when I was growing up watching the eighth
to ninth titter, if you had a runner at second
base in scoring position and it was one out or less,
you know what you were doing for sure, no outs,
you were squaring up and even bunting with two strikes,
and if you fouled off about the dugout, they'd have
you do the same thing again the next time, regardless
you were putting that ball down. Now it's bunt once

(06:56):
bunce twy third baseline, first baseline, in between the pit
and swing away and make sure your launch angle. And
you're a two nineteen hitter that hits twelve home runs,
but I still want your launch angle to give me
thirteen home runs as opposed to what could actually happen
if you moved a runner over and this team could
have used it last year. So I'm with you. I'm
not a big but every now and then it might

(07:17):
be okay to turn in. I mean, think how many
hits back in the day Rod carew Now we're talking
about a different dude here who could hit three thirty
with his blindfold on right, But think about Rod Crew?
How many hits? You go ahead and look how many
hits Rod Crew had laying one down. So I digress,
but I'll ask you with this with Jake Myers, would
you rather have his fifteen home runs in a five

(07:39):
seventy or six twenty five ops?

Speaker 6 (07:41):
Six fifty ops? Sure, and hit even fifteen?

Speaker 5 (07:47):
So let me let me give I'll give eighteen home runs,
but he's hitting two fourteen right and playing good defense.
Or would you rather have him hit two sixty five?
He's hitting in the eight or nine holes? Seven hundred
on base percentage elevated because he's and has thirty more

(08:08):
walks than he had last year or as a full
time player, What do you want that's not even close, right, Yeah,
because the top of the line. Yeah, but not everybody's
gonna agree with that. Oh, he's going from thirteen or
to eighteen home runs and his OPS is pushing seven hundred.
But and he's improved his walks. What of Bregman's biggest

(08:29):
problem last year? He's like eighty walks less? What happened
to the I from the guy who was and you're
talking six hundred bats, It wasn't like he had three
hundred bats. He was expanding his own, which is not
like him. Rush tells you he was desperate at times
at the plate or what have you. Right, Whether it's
desperate because the rest of the team wasn't driving in runs,
Whether it's desperate because he was just trying. It was
a free agent year. I don't know whatever the reason was.

(08:52):
I think it was all baked dead god greed. It's
it's a put in the motor pool, and there's a
bunch of them. It's a gulash. Right, So with Jake Myers,
it's listen, we can't they Going back to the beginning
of this conversation, if your expectations are two seventy, hitting
eighteen home runs, playing gold glove defense, and an ops
at seven fifty, I would think that you're going to
be disappointed when the year's over if he does what

(09:14):
a bonus. Now, if you go in saying six seventy
five and up ups the walks, plays really good defense,
hits fourteen or fifteen home runs if you're fortunate and
plays and commands to strike some does some things different
at the plate, I think that if that's your real realistic,
the truth is you should probably go in thinking twelve
to fourteen home runs, right if he plays one hundred

(09:35):
and forty five games. So I don't know, and it's
back to the home run in spring. Listen, I'm I
only when I'm a judging somebody. It's not it's the
body of work. But guys can change in the course
of a year. But I think we've seen enough to
know that Jake Myers is going to be a very average,
below average hitter in his career. But they there's something

(09:59):
about him, even offensively. The Dana Brent that this organization
continues to love because you've had every off season to
go out and try and replace him, and they have it.
This should be a destination spot here in Houston. Right
you've been the spring or left. You have not been
able to find a center fielder, consistent, every day center fielder.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
The question is why is it?

Speaker 5 (10:19):
Because you haven't really approached it because you felt good
and you continue to hang on the potential of Jake Myers.
When does it get to the point where he's a
spot player instead of a starter.

Speaker 6 (10:30):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
And maybe this year he proves that his confidence is up,
which we thought we'd see last year.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
I think this is a make or break year for
him in that regard. I think if you do see
a lot of the same numbers, I mean, you know it,
talked about it two nineteen it was his career worst,
but he also had more played appearances, more at bats
than he ever had in his career.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
So what does that tell you that the more he plays,
the less he hits.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah, I mean, and that's kind of a concern that
I have about another astro that we can get into
a little bit later on in the show, because I mean,
you know it seems like that guy as well, that
when opposing pitchers get more of a look at him, well,
suddenly the production goes down a little bit. So I
can understand it is more of a chance and game.
You know, baseball is a game of failure, but I

(11:12):
mean it is to a point where you need to
be able to find as much on base production as
you can get in this lineup, especially with the guys
that have gone out the door. And that's kind of
the charge of Dana Brown and Joe Aspata in this
Astros front office and coaching staff. So Jake Myers third
homer of the spring. A couple of other Astros notes here.

(11:33):
Also from yesterday, Josh Hater an inning and a half,
are inning and a half ending in a third coffee
hadn't kicked in yet.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
But we played four innings. Now, yeah we add an
extra I mean four hours time. Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
So if you got a couple of outs then then
I would have been right. But no, we're still playing
the customary three. Okay, they just getting there, Just get
in the ballpark. That's really good. That's it. Logan Van
Why an inning and two thirds a point seven to
one e r A this spring for Van?

Speaker 7 (12:03):
Why?

Speaker 4 (12:03):
And uh, Steven Okertz, I mean, you know you talk
about create yourself an opportunity?

Speaker 6 (12:08):
That guy, absolutely he has, says.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
So he goes another inning, scoreless, couple of strikeouts and
still has not been scored on this spring.

Speaker 6 (12:17):
So when Van Wise is pitching, do you ever ask yourself? Why? No? No,
I don't.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
I have full confidence. I just go with it. That's it.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
Yeah, say you know, I don't have to find my way.
You don't have to ask, you just say why? Because
it's fan why? Yeah? So what's his first name?

Speaker 6 (12:36):
Logan? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (12:37):
But do you think there's anybody that calls that thinks
his first name is Van? And the reason I say
that you weren't on this show. And I told my
guy Li Lima that Mark Van Egan. You remember running
BA from the Raiders years ago. Charles Phil y'all was
pissed at the at the team, big six' nine defensive
end back in The raider, days was mad at The

(12:57):
raiders the equipment guys because he wanted to know why
he didn't have his first and last name on his
jersey Because Van, Egan It's Mark Van. Egan he, thought,
Well Van egan's got his first and last. Name he
Wanted Charles philliah not to know that his Name's. Mark
his full last Name's Van, Egan so you Wanted. Vanigan
so there you.

Speaker 6 (13:17):
Go is? It does? It does somebody on the team,
say is that guy's first Name van and last?

Speaker 7 (13:21):
Name?

Speaker 6 (13:21):
Why or is It? Logan?

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Van?

Speaker 6 (13:22):
Why see What i'm?

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Doing?

Speaker 6 (13:24):
There that's. It there you.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
Go every now and again you'll run into a guy
who's common sense ain't so?

Speaker 6 (13:28):
Common.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Brother, hey you know sometimes you gotta you gotta shepherd
some people. Along some people get the joke from the,
beginning you, know you just you just got.

Speaker 6 (13:35):
It wasn't a.

Speaker 4 (13:36):
Joke this was a true. Story that's probably. It he
probably thought that a joke was being played on. Him
and you, know nobody wants to be. Gullible so you,
know we, all, uh we we all have the things
that trip us up at. Times but, yeah we'll get
into SOME mincaa, tournament also some rockets and hockey In houston, maybe,
well we'll get into all of that as we continue

(13:57):
to roll along here on The Seawan Salisbury, Show Sports
talks ninety.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
More Sean salisbury On Sports talk seven ninety Where astros
And rockets played and Real texans talk first day.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Of THE ncaa tournaments not too much. MADNESS i, mean
we get really one huge, upset although at this point
it's kind of the rule Of march madness that a
twelve will beat at. FIVE i, MEAN i don't think
there has been a single year where every single five
seed was able to make it through on to the
round of thirty. TWO i think there's at least one

(14:33):
or two twelves that. Win but it was Will wade
in McNeese. State all the, Distractions oh he's agreed to
take the job AT Nc. State is McNeese state going
to be? Distracted And Will wade and his team credit to.
Them they went out there and, said, no we are.
Not as a matter of, fact we're going to have
to hold onto this. Lead and they had to hold

(14:53):
on to the lead Because clemson sure made it pretty
interesting there.

Speaker 6 (14:56):
Late, yeah And. Wake you, know it's a good basketball.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
Program BUT i don't think the discrepancy between of all the,
games yestually the sixteen. GAME i went twelve and four
yesterday of the sixteen games. Picked you know how there's
two or that you're like two or three that you're.

Speaker 6 (15:12):
Like, MAN i don't, KNOW i don't. KNOW i don't
feel great about.

Speaker 5 (15:15):
This LIKE i know High point came, in BUT i
still Picked, perdue thank. Goodness but High point was a for,
somehow it was a. Riser people were thinking they were
going to pull off the outside this McNee State. Clemson
there's no way that there are seven spots difference between
McNee State clemson even going. IN i think that was
around the. Country was McNee state's dangerous now And clemson found.

Speaker 6 (15:37):
Out but they were kicking their ass the whole. Game
i'm telling you.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
What they almost gave the damn thing away And clemson came,
screen you, know battling.

Speaker 6 (15:44):
Back but big win for Will, wade big win for McNee.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
STATE i mean they went again and then they got
to Face. Houston If houston wins, again, right and that
won't be good for. Them but there's always one that you're, Like,
okay are is this the darling of the?

Speaker 6 (16:00):
Tournament AND i know.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
We're going to get Into Will wade and how this
is coming down where his new, job this is a you,
know he's got one. Too, well if he goes where
he wants, to he got five games. Left but the
truth is that'll be hard to. Do BUT i, uh
there's always that. Upset i'll tell you WHAT i noticed.
Yesterday there was a lot of ass kicking. There the
favorites beat down SOME tv. Today if you needed to

(16:21):
take a nap early, on you were. Good you didn't
have to worry about it. WAS i, mean there was
double digit victories a lot, yesterday and you, Know Saint
john's put it on.

Speaker 6 (16:29):
Him houston obviously did their, thing which was no a no.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Brainer there were some pretty impressive teams that we like
that sent a loud message that you're not upsetting us.

Speaker 6 (16:39):
Today so it, was you, know that's usually the way
twelve and. Four you're, THINKING i would have done, that
would have done.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
That But i'll tell you one that it was kind
of disappointing to me IS i Thought Utah state would
give would GIVE ucla a better, game AND ucla put
their foot on their throat from the get. Go it
was it, was it was a no, brainer And kansas
had a. CHANCE i don't think bill selves lost the
first round game in twelve. Years it's been a, while
and so you, Know, kansas and that's a tough one

(17:06):
because you, know obviously at some point in.

Speaker 6 (17:08):
Time i'm just telling You calipari is going to have
four or five one and.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Done.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Guys he that NI l At arkansas, SAID i told
you this earlier in the.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Week it's going to.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Grow he would not have gone there if they weren't
committed to doing the same thing for him At arkansas
they're doing At. Kentucky and he's TAKEN i think four
teams to the to the four different or five different
teams to N c to might even be has he Taken?
Patinos is It? Patino and maybe It's patino taking four
or five At Saint. John's But calipari's taking some different

(17:39):
teams to obviously the, tournament as Has Calvin. SAMSON i
think four For calvin's taking four different universities to the
to the march madness in you. Know SO i do
believe that That calipari is gonna The arkansas is going
to be a player in, this even though they had their,
struggles because he knows how to recruitment and if they
give him the money to do, it so that, game you,

(18:02):
know they had it, controlled and then all of a
sudden they went silent And kansas came roaring back and
did their. Thing their best player didn't have a good
game IS i don't even know if he. Scored dickinson
in the second half of the game and in watching
it and then they self inflicted. Air so that game
Was it's weird to See kansas being eliminated in round,
one but they're not the same team this year that
they've been in the.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
Past, now it was a rough year In, lawrence there's no.
Doubt and you mentioned ucla impressive win for, them you OF.
H i mean mentioned then winning by thirty. Eight that
was a game that at the beginning a little bit
of a sluggish, start AND siu never really.

Speaker 6 (18:35):
Was much of a threat to. THEM i, mean AS i,
mentioned they scored forty.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Points but the thing THAT i threw out On twitter
in that game is about eleven and a half minutes to,
go you still see sharp us, in all of those
guys still on the, floor and they're up by probably
thirty five at that, Point, Sean and what do you
still see you OF h doing playing? Defense, yeah, switching
closing out on, shots you, know crashing the board or

(19:00):
it's do, it you, know diving for. Basketballs and there's
probably a part of you that's watching that game saying
get them. Out yeah you're, well not only, that but
like you're up by thirty, five what are you?

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Doing but it's a culture, thing. Man now he's ingrained
in THEIR dna that they can't not do. It you,
Know i'm saying to, regardless here's how we're going to,
play and we're going to continue to do. It BUT
i do believe If i'm not mistaken in watching that,
game and you, know it got to a point where you're, like,
okay like you're, saying you're, watching you're looking for other.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
Things you know they're going to beat. Them how are they?

Speaker 5 (19:29):
Playing is it one of those where it's a bittersweet
where they let him hit you, know five threes down
the stretch and they creep back and even though you
win by, twelve it just didn't feel. Good they hammered
him and stayed. THERE i don't think any of the
players played more than twenty five minutes.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
Yesterday, YEAH i, THOUGHT i think that.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
EVERYBODY i don't think one starter had more than twenty five,
minutes which they got a lot of. Work they were still,
relentless but they rolled through and got a lot of
people minutes. Without so basically What i'm saying is you're
not worn, out but you still had enough to get after.
It SO i think in kicking their ass and still
that effort that you're talking about when you're blowing somebody
out where you don't get caught flat footed because that'll
piss the coach off fourth worse than. Anything we're beating

(20:06):
you and all of a sudden we allow you to
creep back. In you don't want to walk out of there, thinking,
hey you know what we, Won but it sure didn't
feel good because it's only going to get tougher as
the tournament. Continues so BUT i do like you get him,
experience you get get him, rolling but that they'll be
fresh legged.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Tomorrow it almost kind of reminds me of the sites
that you would see on the sidelines When Nick saban
Had alabama rolling and they're beating a team forty nine
to ten or, whatever and somebody messes up a snap
count or. Something that seemingly is When Nick saban would
get the angriest BECAUSE.

Speaker 6 (20:37):
I am has said set to the ground when you're
up by four touchs.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Sight but the whole thing is IS i got the
method to his madness while he's doing. It he's doing
it because he's, saying, hey if we're doing that right,
now then that loses us a game down the road
because we're creating bad habits for. Ourselves AND i guess
that that's pretty much What Kelvin sampson goes.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
WITH i have always believed, coaching for the most, Part
now there's always the, Outlier but compliment when you're getting
your ass, kicked and criticize when you're kicking their. Ass
why and be more critical because when you're kicking somebody's,
ass you're more receptive to criticism because you're playing, well

(21:16):
and a little bit you're, like, man why's coach on?
Me then you kind of see as you, mature you,
SAY i get. It but when you're kicking their, ass
they coach them, hard like saving because you don't want
them to let that creep.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
In when you can't win.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
By four, touchdowns which the last possession, game and when
you're getting your ass, kicked you're already beat. Down you
don't need a coach to brow beat you and kick
you in a ribkke the one everybody else is going
to kick you in the. Ribk you want your coach
not to do. That so THAT'S i think a time
for the most part when now if guys are doing
it because they're, lazy or they're not, working or they
didn't show up the, class all those things that the
distractions that aren't on the, court if you're doing, that,

(21:50):
well then then obviously you say and then you got
to get on their ass. Too BUT i think for,
me coach them hard and criticize you. Can you're more
recept the criticism when you're kicking, ass and you're more
in need of a hug or an arm around you
and a self esteem builder when you're getting your ass
kicked because the whole world's going to kick you in

(22:11):
the teeth in that's when you need your leader to
step up and, SAY i got, you, Guys we're.

Speaker 6 (22:15):
Going to be. Okay even in a single.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
Elimination if you get, beat that's when you, tell you,
know talk about the kids and how much you love.
Them but the great Ones kelvin on them still dive
to the, Floor Nick. Saban they get it and know
when the buttons to. Push half the battle for a head,
coach or even more eighty percent of the battle is
that buy in That i'm talking about is, knowing knowing
your kids better than they know, themselves and that's great.

(22:39):
Leadership there are some good coaches that couldn't lead their
way out of a wet paper. Bag and there's some
good leaders that aren't great x's and, o's and you
know what those guys, do and they hire great. Assistants
and then you do what A ceo is supposed to.
Do you make sure you get buy in from people
and let the coaches, coach and then you, oversee and
then you coach your coaches behind the se so they

(23:00):
go out there and do their, job and you don't
strip them of their power to make sure they're making a.

Speaker 6 (23:04):
Difference he.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
Made dooka says AT kyp know your. Personnel that's a
huge thing. Coaching so THE Ncaa, Tournament day one in the,
books more of it come, TODAY u of h back
on the floor again.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Tomorrow let's get back into the.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Astros and some would say That Dana brown last night was, gushing,
well we'll let you decide for. Yourself that's coming up
next right here on The Sean Salisbury Show Sports talk seven.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
NINETY i had to live out there for the Sewn
salisbury show, Continued.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
So The astros back in action a little bit later on.
Today you want to get in on the phone, lines
you can do SO seb one three two one two
five seven. Ninety once, again that's sub one three two
one two five seven.

Speaker 6 (23:44):
Ninety TRIPLE. L kind of reminds me of high. School i'm.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
Unprepared so if you could pop Up steve on The
northwest side here On Sports talk seven, Ninety, steve what's going?

Speaker 6 (23:53):
On, hey good, morning.

Speaker 8 (23:55):
Guys can y' all hear me?

Speaker 6 (23:56):
Perfectly?

Speaker 8 (23:58):
Hey, yeah you know the the game yesterday with you of,
age fantastic. Game of, course you Know Calvin sampson is never,
satisfied WHICH i really like because his intensity is off the.
Roof BUT i will say, this And i'm sixty three years,
old SO i understand that, basketball especially college, basketball is

(24:18):
a young man's. Game BUT i Love Elvin, hayes but
they have got to get him off the. RADIO i
can understand maybe if he did The rockets, game kind
of Like Calvin, murphy but they need to get somebody
else in the. Booth not THAT i didn't enjoy the,
game but to be honest with, you when he when
he started giving his his his opinions and. Things it

(24:41):
kind of slowed the game down because of THE i
guess the age and. Everything but other than, that great.
Game And i'll, listen you, KNOW i want to listen
to your. Opinion as far as The. Astros you, know
we knew eventually that this this was going to come
to an. END i hope it doesn't come to an
abrupt end where The astros become just kind of a you,

(25:02):
know middle of the pack type of, team which you,
Know i'm not A i'm a Big astros, fan But
I'm i'm not a, homer AND i understand things are
going to happen like, that BUT i really think now
is the time that The astros need to get a
youth movement up. Here Uh and don't you, know don't bring,
anybody take anybody down that you might have second thoughts.

(25:26):
About you, know they're up. Here let's give them a
chance and let's see what they. Do And i'll hang
up and. Listen you'll have bless.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
DAY i appreciate, Call. Steve i'll start with the first.
PART i, MEAN i think they're kind of doing. THAT i,
mean the reason Why zach De zenzo And Cam smith
have an opportunity to make this team is because well
they feel like they can be impactful players for them
and be here for some years to.

Speaker 6 (25:46):
Come so Do.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
ZENZO i mean that's another guy, Too sean that we've
all talked About Cam smith and for the right, reasons
and we've all talked about the veteran guys that have
maybe had a little bit of a slow. Spring Do
enzo forty at. BATS i Think brian mctagger point this out.
Yesterday forty at, bats four hundred batting average and those
forty at, bats these.

Speaker 5 (26:06):
Young these young, PLAYERS i agree With steve if my
whole thing is if you don't force them in because
young players in this organization have had trouble getting to
the major leagues because of the veteran star players in
front of. Him this has been such a loaded roster
that you could play well and find yourself not getting a.
Shot the door's finally open for a lot of different

(26:27):
ones to come up here and have an. Opportunity and
the one THING i like is when they, say, okay
it's spring, training show us what you, got even the,
one let's Say decenzo isn't on the major league.

Speaker 6 (26:37):
Ross when we start. Regard let's just say, it for
the hell for talking a.

Speaker 5 (26:41):
Purpose, sure when you walk out of, this you're not
going to hesitate to say he showed us enough that
this is a quick.

Speaker 6 (26:49):
Call does that make?

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Sense SO i think they, are AND i think there's
finally space to start. Building you're, right you don't want
the gap to be where you got old and you
got you got old and weren't paying people left the
core of your team and there's a three or four
or five year gap in. Between this team develops players
in the minor league. System even when they lost all
those draft, picks they still developed players, really really. Well

(27:11):
so these guys are from Cam smith and De, zezo
they're making an impact in spring training that if you
do send them, down it's, like hold, on, now the
guys in front of them better.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
Plays doors open, Here let's put it that.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
Way in these young players are not only keep it,
open they're kicking it open to make sure that the,
veterans AND i like, it challenge.

Speaker 6 (27:29):
Them competition is.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
Good if you can't handle competition with young, players and
you're probably in the wrong. Business SO i do like
that part of, it And steve's right THAT i don't
think we're in any danger at least when you think
about also Pitching fromber's not Old Hunter, browns the stud
you got Some Spencer, Araghed you've got some young staff
members as. Well we tend to focus on the everyday,

(27:52):
player but those won't matter as long as you don't have.
Pitching but they got. Pitching so that's going to. Help
AND i don't think you're going to see it. Now
they may be. Done there's going to come a time
where they don't make the. Playoffs, true they're just. Is
but you don't want to live there just that's that's
a retal space for a year or. Two if that,
happened you don't you don't want to be pronounced to your.
POINT i, mean and that's what it was in the
early twenty. TENS i, mean they hitted themselves for the longest.

(28:15):
Time i've said it numerous times And i'll continue to say.
It one of the worst things that could have ever
happened to this organization was going to The World series
in two thousand and. Five they had no business being.
There AND i, MEAN i understand you Had, clemens you Had,
pettit you Had, oswalt but you made The World series
With Jason, Lane Morgan ensburg And Mike lamb being pretty
much the middle of your, Order, like come, on what
are we doing here Two?

Speaker 6 (28:35):
Trojans, OH i Know i'm taking a shot at. It
if it would have been AN lsu, guy you'd have
been swinging off their.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
NUTS i Think Ross springer was around that, time so you,
KNOW i GUESS i could have had a. Chance but
don't disparage My. Trojans i'm not. Disparaging i'm just saying.
THAT i, mean those say they were very. Good they can,
pop they can pop and have a good, season and
that's what they.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
DID i fail, you, DOG i fail. You so with,
That i'm with.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
You they but now they're fortunate that as long as
they continue to feed it the and and, draft writing and,
develop that gap gets close. Quickly if there's a missed
playoff gap or other organizations we've seen gaps for a long.
Time To Elvin, HAYES i got to come clean.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
NOW i.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
Don't i've Met alvin AND i love. Him was he
is it the radio? Broadcast he's D i, Have I've
i'm A tv. Guy when it comes to. Hoops i've
never heard him on. It i've met him and talked to,
him And i've interviewed him, before But i've never heard
him on a on a radio. BROADCAST i don't. KNOW
i can't comment on What ste's talking about because in,

(29:43):
TRUTH i know he's a legend obviously here in a
LEGEND nba legend at A university Of houston legend for obvious.
Reasons Abdul jabbar knows all about, that BUT i. DON'T
i have never heard him broadcast a.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
GAME i listen If i'm ever driving around yesterday WHEN
i was coming back from Dyke In park of picking
up the new, gear, which by the, way shout Out
Mason ronald and the crew out there With astros tours
able to show me some parts of the ballpark That
i've never had a chance to see. Before but, regardless
listening to the, game and you just answered your you

(30:17):
just answered your own. Question Alvin hayes is there because
he's a.

Speaker 6 (30:19):
LEGEND i, mean.

Speaker 4 (30:20):
He's one of the pillars in cornerstones of that. Program
and If Elvin hayes wants to be on the, radio
guess Where Elvin hayes is gonna.

Speaker 5 (30:28):
Be he's gonna be on the. Radio but, well let
me ask is he any? GOOD i don't Mean i'm
not BEING i don't mean. Good you're a broadcast, critic is?

Speaker 6 (30:38):
He is he? Good or is?

Speaker 5 (30:39):
He if he was an a, legend would he be
on the? Radio that's the. One if he wasn't a,
legend he probably would not be either, WAY i promise,
you As i've said here, now AND i mean this
is and it's not to disparage the. Man it's just
It's i'm just being. Honest i'll give you my honest. Answer,
YEAH i can't give You. STEVE'S i can't Answer steve's
question BECAUSE i don't know. Sure i've lived here now thirteen?

Speaker 6 (30:58):
Years is that?

Speaker 9 (30:59):
Right?

Speaker 6 (31:00):
Listen what do we? Know twelve? Years what a WEIRD
i moved here in twenty? Thirteen what is? It twenty?

Speaker 1 (31:05):
Five?

Speaker 6 (31:05):
Twelve twelve?

Speaker 5 (31:06):
YEARS i have not astros? Baseball and this isn't BECAUSE
i don't like the. BROADCASTING i. DON'T i mean usually
If i'm watching ON, TV i do. IT i have
NEVER i wouldn't know Because i've never. Heard so for,
Me i'm actually asking a, question how is? He if
you're a broadcast, critic how is?

Speaker 6 (31:27):
He does he get? IT i don't.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
Know, Now, listen there's got to be a little bit
of leeway for a guy who's been around a while
and aging and doesn't mean he's not, good because we
got eighty five year olds that can still call games
and do it really.

Speaker 6 (31:37):
Well BUT i can't even.

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Comment on it BECAUSE i didn't know how good HE
i don't know how how long has he been doing
it for. Them i'm not even, sure AND i don't
know how he was when he first started To NOW i,
don't and it's not BECAUSE i don't want, to BUT i.
Don't i'll be honest With, DAN i don't listen to
much When i'm in my. Car you can probably count
on two hands in twelve years That i've lived to

(32:00):
sports on the, radio and now Now Astros, BASEBALL i
put it.

Speaker 6 (32:05):
Different, sure you KNOW i Could, sparks AND i MEAN
i don't.

Speaker 5 (32:08):
Call i'm not talking About i'm talking about like sports
talk that and it's NOT i encourage everybody to go. Listen,
sure for, Me i'm a ninety nine point nine percent
music guy on the, radio and when i'm home it's
Either i'm watching ON, tv and if THE tv goes,
out Then i'll put a radio onto, that BUT i
AND i encourage everybody to do. It but for, me

(32:28):
just for my pleasure in, LISTENING i can Never i've
never Heard elvin broadcast a GAME i pay it. To,
OBVIOUSLY i watched sports, endlessly BUT i can't remember the
last TIME i listened to sports talk radio and or
a full game.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
ON i just.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
Don't AND i want everybody to listen to ours for four,
hours AND i encourage you to listen to their. Best but for,
me in my, LIFE I i probably haven't listened to
sports talk radio. Now and this is my nationally or
locally an hour of time in twenty years. Interesting, now
that's when it's not that's not. Hyperbole if you, Said,

(33:13):
sean what went? On i'm talking about just talk or national.
Sports some of my favorite friends and best. People i'll
watch clips or when somebody, says, man did you hear what?
Said i'll go back and. Listen i'm just a music,
guy and quite, FRANKLY i need separation from, it and
a lot of TIMES i don't like to listen to
what somebody else says BECAUSE i don't want to start
to develop a thought process based on somebody else's.

Speaker 6 (33:34):
OPINION i want to form my, own SO i encourage
everybody to.

Speaker 5 (33:36):
Listen but in my life there's probably in the last
fifteen years of my, Career i've probably listened to at
the most national local combined thirty to forty minutes of
and not counting a. Game And i've never listened to
THE i haven't Heard, alvin SO i can't comment On
steve's AND i Love Alvin, hayes BUT i just don't

(33:59):
listen to.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
It i'm a.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
Radio i'm Aw i'm a news and or music.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
GUY i just AND i guess it may be the
lawyer when they, leave they don't want to talk there
but having a. BEER i got to get away from
it SO i. Can when somebody, says did you hear this?
Show or did you HEAR i tell You i've been
a guest on some local, shows BUT I i. DON'T
i can't remember the last TIME i heard a segment
of radio across the country or locally did WHEN i

(34:25):
WHEN i left, Work.

Speaker 6 (34:26):
Because you leave it all on the.

Speaker 5 (34:27):
Field, WELL i try, to But i'm just a MUSIC
i need when the SECOND i get in, there the
first THING i don't want to. HEAR i don't want
to turn On, Dan i'd love, him But Dan patrick are.
Local they're doing great. Work it's nothing, Them it's more.
Me but that's Why i've always been. SURE i. LISTEN
I i watch. Football we get. PAID i watch football
because a lot of times we got the. Job there're
sometimes On SUNDAY nfl. Football did you get to? Poissy

(34:51):
IF i wasn't covering it with the, Rule i'm not
sure i'd watch it as. Much YET i watch it
because you've got to do your job. Right, sure and
we got a job do so some people are you,
know what do we call?

Speaker 6 (35:00):
Him p?

Speaker 5 (35:00):
Once i've never been from the DAY i was. BORN
i listened to more radio WHEN i was, ten trying
to trying to learn THAN i, do and it's not
AND i could learn a. Lot there's people that are
far better THAN. I JUST i don't have a listening
ear for sports talk. RADIO i just or. BROADCAST i
want to watch it ON tv or the. ASTROS i

(35:21):
want to listen to And Matt TOM i MEAN i hear.
THAT i just talk them about national and. Local it's
just NEVER i get in AND i need to hear
me some country music or some good rock and.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Roll there you, go fair enough all, Right Dana, brown
did he possibly paint a picture of what the immediate
future looks like For Cam? Smith will let you decide
next right Here Shawn Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven to.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Ninety This Sean Salisbury show continues to.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Continue THE nhl To houston might finally have, Legs so
we'll talk about that in the seven o'clock. Hour but Mentioned,
sean and at least we can get one of the
cuts in here From Dana brown last night On Astro
line in the story of The, Spring Cam, smith what
are his chances to make this? Team has he done

(36:06):
enough to be able to make this team or is
it one of Those you put him in the incubator
and soon enough you're able to open up the hatch
and bring him, out and here he comes to help The.
Astros Dana brown asked about his impression Of smith's so.

Speaker 10 (36:19):
Far, look there's nothing like the energy of the. Youth
and So Cam smith is especially human. Being first of,
all he has the great combination of humility and. Confidence
and so you look for that in players because you
know these players they go out and sometimes they have,
success sometimes they do not have. Success and when you

(36:41):
look at a guy Like Cam. SMITH i think he's
going to be very. SUCCESSFUL i think his head is
in the right space and so you, know, look we
have some tough decisions to, make but make no, mistake
he's pretty.

Speaker 6 (36:54):
Special sounds like a lot of future tents in. There.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
Sean, yeah WHEN i hear that he's preparing us that
he's going to be in the minor, leagues that's exactly
What i'm. Hearing and to, say, hey he's, special special,
human special, player a lot of decisions to.

Speaker 6 (37:09):
MAKE i think that's preparing you.

Speaker 5 (37:10):
For you may not like this, decision but He's chas
McCormick's ovan of in, rightfield And Cam smith is going to.

Speaker 6 (37:15):
Come we'll see him sometime during the.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Season AND i, mean and that's the, thing if you
add the difficult, decisions whenever you hear difficult, decisions you're always.

Speaker 5 (37:22):
Oh means that the guy you want there is going somewhere.
ELSE i know what that.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
Means so we'll hear more From Dana brown here in
the seven o'clock, hour as one hour is in the,
books here on The Sean Salisbury, Show Dan, Matthews Sean, Salisbury,
Tripoli Emmanuel elmore right Here Sports talk seven ninety Ad.

Speaker 11 (37:41):

This Sean salisbury TO Usc, troupes longtime Friend Shawn, Salisbury Dan.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
Matthews this is The Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Show astros beat The marlins In Greape Fruit League action
eleven to, nothing AND nhl expansion To houston could possibly
be upon. Us according TO, espn Billionaire Dan freakin has
emerged as a real possibility to bring SAID nhl expansion franchise.

Speaker 6 (38:40):
HERE a lot of.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
People for the longest, Time sean thought that it Was Tilman,
fertita but, now at least according to Again uh the
crew over AT, espn it could be Billionaire Dan friedkin
is the guy great.

Speaker 5 (38:52):
Good you've got to be behind your. Name you can afford.
It i'm all.

Speaker 6 (38:57):
In you's got plenty of. That As i've, SAID i love.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
Going i'm more of a FOOTBALL i want to WATCH nfl.
FOOTBALL i want to watch ON tv college. FOOTBALL i
love the. ATMOSPHERE i still want to watch the game ON,
tv BUT i like the tailgating and the fun and
seeing everybody get after. It you, know when you've had
kids go through college and do, it it's, like that's pretty.
COOL i love the atmosphere and the, tailgating everything that
goes with getting up at four.

Speaker 6 (39:18):
In the morning on a game.

Speaker 5 (39:19):
Day you know you lived In georgia and you're headed
between the. Hedges all the stuff leading up the games
actually the anti climacting. PART i like all the prep
and the food and everybody how into it they are
bringing their.

Speaker 6 (39:30):
RVs it's.

Speaker 5 (39:31):
Awesome with, BASEBALL i love them. BOTH i love ON.
TV i buy The baseball. Package if nobody if the
ass aren't, Playing i'm watching SOME i just love even
if it's background. NOISE i love having baseball ON. Tv
BUT i also like going in, person AND i like
sitting in the stands not in the press, box just
BECAUSE i don't, KNOW i just IF i feel LIKE
i can watch the game.

Speaker 7 (39:49):
Better.

Speaker 5 (39:50):
Right and then when it comes to, basketball there's nothing like.
It you, know down low and basketball when you get
an appreciation for just how athletic they. Are BUT i
watch hoops ON tv college hoops the. Same going to
great buildings Like Allen field. House we've talked. About but
when it comes to, hockey, Now i'll watch ON. TV
i watch. Hockey i'm an avid hockey. Fan you say
how hockey's in person the best sport to, Watch.

Speaker 6 (40:13):
Maybe you can say what you.

Speaker 5 (40:14):
Want so if they do get a hockey Low i've
stated on, This i'll stand in line outside and in
bad weather or in one hundred and twenty five degrees
to get a, seat to get season. Tickets that is
the one season. Ticket i've had them in hoops And
i've had them in. Baseball BUT i like to. Go
but sometimes you watch ON. Tv you can't get there
unless you live near the. Ballpark you watch ON. TV
i will they play what eighty two? Guys so forty

(40:37):
one home?

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Games?

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Right?

Speaker 5 (40:37):
YEAH i think it's the same as THE. Nba that
is exactly the. SAME i would probably be at thirty
five to forty games a. YEAR i absolutely adore and love.
Hockey WOULD i want hockey here so? Badly AND i
can't wait because if it, is that Is i'm getting
Four i'd LIKE i, said IF i IF i got
to walk to work BECAUSE i got to get four.
Tickets that's What i'm, doing AND i freaking love. It

(41:00):
please let it, happen and please let it. Happen don't
tell me twenty twenty. Nine can we get this done?

Speaker 6 (41:04):
Sooner? Please?

Speaker 4 (41:05):
Yeah And Emily kaplan OF espn was the one who had.
This they tried to reach out To dan and The
Friedkin group but did not get a, response but they
did talk With Bill, daley who's The deputy commissioner of THE,
nhl and said on a number of occasions they've met
with him about potential interest in an expansion franchise. Here,

(41:28):
however and this is the huge capital H, HOWEVER Nhl
Commissioner Gary bettman has cooled off expansion rumors, recently saying
that at the recent owners meetings that the topic of
expansion was not on the front.

Speaker 6 (41:45):
Burner SO i don't.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
KNOW i, mean sometimes there is that of sometimes you,
know there is the pour some cold water on it
and then all of a, Sudden, hey did you Hear
houston's getting a? Team when did that? Happen BECAUSE i
thought they said that that wasn't going to be a.
Possibility BUT i mean it sounds like it least it's
working behind the. Scenes and AS i, MENTIONED i, mean you,
Know Tilman fritida has talked about his desire to be
able to bring AN hl team, here AND i, Mean

(42:10):
i'm not really sure how far his efforts have. GONE
i don't know if maybe these two meet up and
it's a co ownership type of situation here that you,
know maybe somebody owns fifty, one the other one owns forty.
Nine who, Knows but at least it'll be interesting to
see how far this. Goes and The Freaking group does
have experience in in in sports. Ownership they own a

(42:34):
Soccer so what is The Freakin group kind of what
kind of what business is? IT i have financial, businesses
marketing business with.

Speaker 6 (42:41):
It, YEAH i MEAN i.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
GUESS i mean it does say That freakin is the
chairman AND ceo Of Golf State's, Toyota SO i guess
if you bought A toyota around, here then you've probably
put money in his. Pockets but they do have ownership
equity in An italian soccer team and also in The
English premier soccer Club, everton SO i mean there's a

(43:02):
chance for them to be able to grow their pro
soccer clubs aren't, cheap, no they're. Not but it's ALSO
i mean you've talked about your you know you love THE.
Nhl you've you've you, know seen it in person numerous.
TIMES i, mean the key is with hockey wherever you bring.
It and THE nhl has been pretty good about this
by setting up their expansion drafts of we want to

(43:23):
be able to start off what they can and. Shot
like when they went To, vegas they, knew if we
don't have an entertaining product, here people are gonna have
numerous other things to do than the come watch a hockey.

Speaker 6 (43:32):
Team all they do is win.

Speaker 4 (43:33):
There all they do is, win and they want from
the get, go and that building is packed every single
night for that mat of.

Speaker 6 (43:38):
Reason it. Awesome seattle the same deal when they moved
up To.

Speaker 4 (43:42):
SEATTLE i mean they wanted to make, sure, HEY i
understand that you want AN nba, team but you get
AN nhl, team and if you guys win from the,
beginning then you're gonna have people showing. Up SO i,
MEAN i, think if nothing, else it gives you reason
to believe that it could be. Fun it could be
a fun watch because THE nhl would, say, hey we
want to make sure this thing succeeds down. There AND

(44:03):
i Mean what was it about the late eighties was
when the expansion The Southern states started happened for THE.
NHL i mean The kings were kind of the first.

Speaker 5 (44:10):
One go look at how Many Stanley cups have been
won by those expansion franchises In tampa And Dallas.

Speaker 6 (44:18):
STARS i mean they all these places have Won.

Speaker 5 (44:21):
CAROLINA i, mean think about the places that have been
not just, competitive but that are dominating Hockey nashville. Regularly
so it's impressive to, watch AND i love. It it's
my it is my very. Favorite and two. Things there's
a third thing we need and you could probably it
grows to, legalize but we'll leave that to somebody. Else
there's so much money in, it but for, me AND

(44:43):
i don't smoke per, SE i just don't. Cigars but
we need sports betting at a casino. Here we need
that at least online on brick and mortar as.

Speaker 6 (44:55):
WELL i love.

Speaker 5 (44:56):
THAT i, AGREE i agree you're. Right if that's the
place to, START i get. It, well we need, that
and we need a hockey. Franchise you give me you start.
There first of. ALL i don't know how you're going
to be able to, resist even though you're in The
bible belt and all. THAT i don't know how you're
going to be able to resist all that money that
comes through, this that that brings with. It AND i
know that there's, addiction but that's you can be addicted to.
ANYTHING i mean, that that's that's part of.

Speaker 6 (45:19):
IT i get.

Speaker 5 (45:19):
It and you're if you're, IMPULSIVE i understand. That but
if you're just, talking what do we always? Say follow
the money? Right at some point you're going to be
able to resist that. Money And i've talked to people
In vegas that are that you, know sports book people
and do set? Them do you know that the biggest
some of the biggest gamblers And vegas will hate. It

(45:41):
some of the biggest traveling gamblers top three in the
country come from this state To. Vegas so it's a
big not only playing tables and, stuff but it's.

Speaker 6 (45:51):
Huge that's why you see.

Speaker 5 (45:52):
Everybody everybody wants a piece of this Of texas that
in a hockey for, me if you went in that
order sports, betting brick and, mortar, online one and, two
you have And i'm not if you do it. RESPONSIBLY
i can say that about, anything your, vodka your, bourbon
and you're betting any. Anything SO i don't think we
have to preface. THAT i think that's pretty. Obvious and

(46:14):
bring me a hockey, Franchise and why would you want
to leave? Here you got all this good stuff and
That come, on, now, son.

Speaker 4 (46:19):
Those state income Tax we we got things going pretty good.

Speaker 1 (46:22):
Here we.

Speaker 5 (46:23):
Amaze if we play our cards, right we'll get a
flat tax around the world and around The United states
and everybody will pay fifteen percent or ten.

Speaker 6 (46:29):
Percent we can move on. That that'd be. NICE i
Think i'd like more in my paycheck, though that'd be.

Speaker 5 (46:33):
Cool, well what a novel. Concept you work hard and
you get to keep it. Interesting who wouldn't want? That,
WELL i know something that may.

Speaker 4 (46:39):
Not but who wouldn't, WELL i, mean you know those
who don't want, it then give, it give it to the.
REST i, say you can check the. Box, HEY i
want to give. More that's WHAT i want to have at. It,
Hey god bless. You if you're a, giver then you
can take, it Tru that's it's. Right so, yeah that's
something that obviously we'll be keeping an eye on to
see if indeed we do SEE nhl hockey here in?

(47:02):
Here are you a hockey, GUY i, AM i, AM
i love. IT i used to, be you, know obviously
in the nineties when it was you, Know Joe, Sakk Peter,
forsburg The Red wings, Teams Luke, robatie all of those.
GUYS i, mean that's when to me it was it
was exciting to. WATCH i cooled off over the, years
AND i MEAN i THINK i, was like most people

(47:23):
a few weeks ago with The Four nations that was,
happening kind of got caught up in. It when The
Winter olympics come, around, obviously we kind of get caught
up in it because IT'S us Against, canada and you
want THE us to be able to. Win and that's
what cracked me. Up When canada won The Four Nations,
Cup they're all going On, Twitter, oh this is what we.
Do and immediately us As, americans we were, like you
haven't want To Stanley cup since the early, nineties.

Speaker 6 (47:44):
Which is one of the more shocking statistics in.

Speaker 5 (47:48):
Sports right. NOW i want you to think about what
you just. Said if you're not winning your, sport right
that's that's that's tough to.

Speaker 3 (47:56):
Do.

Speaker 5 (47:57):
Brother could you imagine at The World, cup A european
franchise or someone In South america, saying, well we haven't
won A World cup and or across the, pond sure
that THE us has won The World, cups sixteen Straight World.
Cups what that would be? Like that's what at the
equivalent in? Hockey how you're talking three? Decades two plus?

(48:20):
Decades they didn't want To Stanley. Cup come, on, now
there was a time didn't didn't we have a time
where we got to the final fourward that that it
was the first, Time AND i mean we have. That
we haven't had A canadian team playing for an opportunity
to get. THERE i can't remember what the stat was last,
year but it is alarming how The americans are beating
them at their own.

Speaker 6 (48:38):
Game And i'm okay with that.

Speaker 5 (48:40):
Too, hey that's the terror for putting on, them, right that's,
it that's.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
It.

Speaker 5 (48:45):
YE i lived. There The canadian people were awesome to.
ME i lived in The. PEG i lived in The.
Peg it was cold as, balls but it was a good.
Place but, yeah keep. DOMINATING i love it when we
can beat people at their. Sport what's that? Triply?

Speaker 12 (48:56):
Uh? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (48:57):
Doug, Guy doug called. In he had a, question he
just wanted to. Know He, yeah it was actually a good.
Question he. Asked how many expansion teams come out the
gate like, winning like hit the ground winning like you,
know and to get a, like you, know a cup
in their first like.

Speaker 5 (49:11):
Followers vegas was one of. Them, yeah, THEY i mean
when when THEY i mean they were loaded with their
roster In. Tampa they didn't take them long to take
care of their. Business i'd have to look that, up
BUT i know this BECAUSE i was there at their
First Stanley cup when when they got beat by the
Why washington and and uh you know they they when

(49:33):
they first, started and every year they're a major. Threat
AND i went to games one and two in the
building Against washington and it was it's a. High it's
a it's a party dressed up as a hockey. GAME i,
mean the show going. In i've been To chicago And
i've been To Detroit's, Building chicago The National, anthem and
it's a great you gotta get if you go to
watch hockey, game watch Black hawks, play get to make
sure you're there like forty five minutes. Before same thing In.

(49:55):
Vegas it's, well it's all. Show it's like you're getting
are getting A vegas. Show and then the hockey game breaks.
Out and then when the team's good freaking golden, dude
and it's in a great area right, there located by
you walk you can get to anything you.

Speaker 6 (50:08):
Need, Man please let us get. Out, yeah hockey, FRANCHISE.

Speaker 4 (50:12):
I was gonna, SAY i, mean we don't have The
New York New york right next to. Us but you,
know at least that's. Okay you can build some things
up out. There who, knows maybe you get gambling at
the same, time.

Speaker 6 (50:20):
Maybe there'll be a Draft kings casino or casino the
brick and. Mortar but your lips To god's, ears, brother thank.
You let's. Go let's head right over to the book
right after.

Speaker 4 (50:30):

Speaker 5 (51:53):
Country i'll throw in some During Christmas i'm listening, to
like The christmas cuts there you. GO i like all
genres of. Music Doesne matt? Same but you know when
you there's certainly you wake up say that's WHAT i
want to hear today or, That so it doesn't. Matter
AND i encourage everybody to go listen to sports talk
radio all over whatever you, do and that's. Awesome i'm
just NOT i would be A p, five. DON'T i
never have whatever. THAT i don't even if that, EXISTS

(52:14):
i just. DON'T i don't listen to myself AND i
don't listen to sports talk radio anywhere in the country at.
All BUT i encourage people when you got a good
lineup or when you got good people. Listen i'm Just
I'm the truth, Is i'm right. Now i'm working on
got other stuff, away businesses and. Stuff BUT i Also
i'm too greedy with my golf game to let let

(52:35):
sports get the way we play and practicing, Right.

Speaker 6 (52:39):
So BUT i encourage. It but you're, RIGHT i just.

Speaker 5 (52:42):
DON'T i, know ten minutes in twenty years, maybe which
is nuts being in, it but it's just WHO i.
Am but when you we're fortunate than this time you
can listen to some good. Radio that's kind OF i
mean what you describing yourself. As it kind of reminds
me of my. Brother he was a really good.

Speaker 4 (52:58):
BALLPLAYER i played college, baseball but he always hated watching
the game like it WAS i love playing, IT i
can't watch.

Speaker 5 (53:06):
IT i got a lot of buddies that played for
a long. Time, yeah that don't watch football. Game Bo
jackson's one of those. Guys you can get him on
on if you, said, HEY i want to be a.
Guest if you're asking them just overall sports, stuff they're.
Great if you ask them about their own team that
they played twelve years, for they can't name three players
and they don't.

Speaker 4 (53:23):
Watch Bo jackson is exactly that. Guy and he even
mentioned it in one of his thirty for thirties or
whatever it, was that pretty much he'd much rather just
be in a deer blind or making his own. Bows
then he, said if a game's on in the, House
i'll walk, By, hey what's the?

Speaker 6 (53:38):
Score all? Right? Cool go back to shooting right.

Speaker 5 (53:41):
NOW i like to watch, team but just when it
comes to, sports if it's not SOMETHING i want to,
Watch i'd, rather you, know play golf, practice go to
the shooting. Range i'm with. Him we may have different,
interests But i'm with. Him it's like IF i wasn't
in the career it EVEN i Watched spot watch all of.

Speaker 1 (53:57):
It BUT i.

Speaker 6 (53:59):
Get where he's coming from because it's been your whole. Life.

Speaker 5 (54:02):
Man it can be, Exhausting but then again you look at,
it that's WHY i love the. Career come, on, man
the first TIME i ever hear a broadcaster, complain NOW
i know everybody needs to get. Paid complain about our
job that it's. Hard it's hard if you're, traveling and
it can be a grind because you got to if
you want to be any, good you got to watch.
It there's parts of it that can be a. Job,
well it is if you're it is a job because

(54:24):
you're if you're doing if you're responsible and doing your
job the right, way you prepare like last, night you
if you're if you're doing your job and people are
gonna talk about, it you got to stay up and.
Watch sure if you're going to talk about in your local,
market talk about that game or so, yes if you're
prepared and want to do, good, ready you can't fool
our listeners or listeners across the county are too. Smart
they watch, it so you can't bs AND i just

(54:46):
have always believed you didn't watch tell them and, say,
well fill me in what happened last. Year that's the
way it, is and that's the Way i've always. Met so,
yes it's a. Job because the preparation that goes into.
It BUT i always laugh from, People oh, man what
a grind. Bitch you're talking about sports and making people
people laugh and do. IT i don't want to hear
WHEN i got guys hanging drywall and people are struggling
to reach their you, know the goals at their. Company

(55:07):
it is, work and we do grind and getting of
a three thirty can be. Here but that's the hardest
part of the. Job, sure AND i love. IT i
wouldn't want to do any other time slot because the
rest of your day's. YOURS i love getting up and
getting to have purpose when you wake. Up but in,
truth if across the country A tv, guy oh, Yeah
I'm i'm tired to.

Speaker 6 (55:22):
Do if you're tired of doing to, fine get out.

Speaker 5 (55:24):
There but to, me the second a guy complains about
the job that it's a brutal, job this, hard then
there's a long line waiting for. IT i may complain
that you're tired once in a. WHILE i try not
to because everybody else is. Tired BUT i don't ever
complain about the. Gig we got a friggin phenomenal.

Speaker 6 (55:40):
Gig. Anytime if it was one person listening or one
person calling in and that was. It it's one.

Speaker 5 (55:47):
Person, hey the grind that somebody's gonna wake up and
do today on A, FRIDAY a trucker that's up driving
across the country making sure you get. IT i know
it sounds, cheesy but this this. Business slap a guy
next time he ever, complains if he complains about his.
Job this is a everybody in the world wants to
do something like this where you get to talk what you.

Speaker 6 (56:06):
Love come, o.

Speaker 5 (56:08):
Man BUT i just don't. Listen Once i'm, GONE i don't.
LISTEN i read, everything So i'm prepared for.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
That BUT i.

Speaker 5 (56:13):
DON'T i don't listen TO i listen to music on
sports talk, RADIO i. DON'T i don't ANYWHERE i, AM
i just don't listen to.

Speaker 4 (56:19):
It, well so Where i'm going with this is there's
a radio host In chicago Named Dan bernstein and he's, well,
yeah he's off the air this week because of oh
got a little he got the heave hole he, got
he got put in the penalty box four a. Week
So bernstein over the weekend posting a picture of him

(56:41):
holding up a fish and it's got blood coming out
of the. Gills and it says this was a hell
of a fight at Sports expert thirty four On. Twitter, wow,
man fatty we eat. THAT i was surprised to find
out how a good fresh pike. Tasted and another guy,
Said walleye is. Amazing but this is, where you know

(57:04):
the gumbo kind of PEPs up a little, bit if you, Will,
COREG i haven't heard anything.

Speaker 5 (57:08):
Yet oh, yeah they bothered that that would the week's.
Suspension the menu we gave you.

Speaker 4 (57:13):
Yesterday it's the first course right there Where actually we're
even before the first, course because here's where the main
course starts to come. IN a guy Named Greg, Messenger,
lol this Isn't that Isn't. Walleye that is a Female
northern pike that was getting ready to, spawn but Instead
dan killed it and seems proud of. It this is
Where bernstein weighs, in what the entire f is wrong with?

(57:35):
You it was released, successfully took off like a. Torpedo
go blank, Yourself messenger with that dried blood on the.
Gills sure it, Did dan liar the next one like
a shot From. BERNSTEIN i never respond the, trolls but
questioning my sportsmanship and conservation awareness sets me.

Speaker 6 (57:53):
Off want to.

Speaker 4 (57:54):
Fight i'm a bad, enemy. Blanker, messenger you are five foot,
seven one hundred and sixty five, pounds fat. Boy you
really worry me as a bad. Enemy by the, way
your language continues to give you away as very base
and juvenile as a. Person And bernstein, responds where are you?
AT i have your address and phone numbers one at all?

(58:16):
Public DO i worry?

Speaker 13 (58:17):
You?

Speaker 4 (58:18):
Yes here's where it, Finally, messenger not one. BENT i
am very transparent about WHERE i. Live, bernstein want your kids? Involved,
well not only DID i get him in trouble with
his radio, station it even. CONTINUED i guess That bernstein
is part Of camp one step up there In. Chicago
i'm not even sure what they necessarily, support but talking

(58:40):
about brings happiness. Support this is their statement On twitter brings, happiness,
support strength and hopes to hundreds of children each. Year,
Recently Dan bernstein made comments on social media that don't
reflect our. Mission as a, result we've removed him from
our board of. Directors so all of That sean Over,
twitter a fish.

Speaker 1 (59:03):
Over?

Speaker 5 (59:03):
Twitter, yes but over a Fish twitter and a fish, now,
LISTEN I i. Get but even if it was or
wasn't to bring. LISTEN i wasn't. There i'm just going
by what you. Read, OBVIOUSLY i don't understand what that's.
Angry we all, have you, know fun. Stuff you get

(59:23):
to the point where it's, LIKE i kind of like
the battle for. Fun but when it gets to that,
point especially on the board of directors watching, kids you,
know you joke around about, stuff there comes a point
Time i'm gonna come kick.

Speaker 6 (59:33):
You who's? Ass is he kicking.

Speaker 4 (59:35):
Nobody's because because because if he does, well then he's
no longer a midday host on a radio.

Speaker 5 (59:41):
And they're, listen their ratings are through The they do
a lot of good work when it comes To chicago's
a big sports radio. Town, sure but there comes a
point in time when your job is not that, important,
dude and a fight On, twitter when it starts to
leak over the. Kids i'm coming to your. House, listen
come on. Over i'll have a beer ready for. You
and when you, walk you're not kicking anybody's. Ass, okay
you're not kicking. Mine you're not kicking anybody's. Ass it's.

(01:00:04):
Silly it's absolutely silly what we've come. To and he
probably see he's going to get suspended in normal places
he wouldn't have the. Gig, Right, yeah you've crossed over
into about three different territories that are, like, dude, yeah to,
disagreement what's a big. DEAL i like the, disagreement come
back the next. Day just let it over a fish
and On twitter And i've have they ever seen each?

(01:00:25):
Other probably not right with people you don't Even, yeah,
right you're fighting with a. GUY i, mean, HELL i don't.
Know maybe you're fighting with a seven degree black. BELT
i don't. Know but the truth is of all the
things that go on that cost you a week's worth
of pay and a lot of dignity and, Respect come on, now,
SON i, MEAN i understand they do good sports, radio

(01:00:46):
but there kinds important.

Speaker 6 (01:00:47):
Time your job's not that. Important see that's that's something
too THAT i learned along. Time either is the truth
about your? Fish just move?

Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
On.

Speaker 4 (01:00:53):
WELL i mean the number one lesson THAT i learned
is don't look at the. Mentions there's there's no. Need
but if you do and somebody is getting after, YOU
a buddy of mine gave me a great, Response, dude it's,
sports it's not that.

Speaker 6 (01:01:04):
Important you get self aware.

Speaker 4 (01:01:06):
And get you get you're getting you're getting angry with
me about an opinion about. Sports, Man i'm not not
telling you how to live your.

Speaker 5 (01:01:12):
Life can you, imagine, though if you if you were
uptight about everything everybody said in ninety? Nine trust, Me
i've worked ninety nine percent of the things you see
on there from people you've never met and will never.

Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
Meet I've I've i've worked with those. Guys it's. Exhausting
oh my, god it's. Exhausting or you're just, like, dude just.

Speaker 5 (01:01:29):
Disconnect five years from, now you're gonna DO i, mean
he may, remember BUT i wouldn't even remember the.

Speaker 6 (01:01:34):
Conversation somebody questioned about a? Fish Who What's what's the
response that people have to people like?

Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
That?

Speaker 6 (01:01:38):
Dude go, out touch some, grass you know, what beautiful
day outside going joy? It get a, hobby that's, It
pick a pick up a golf.

Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
CLOTH i thought it was gonna be something that you
get in a. Fire you get an, action you to
over a fish On twitter and a guy you are getting. Drove,
okay people cuss On. Twitter we all cuss once in a,
While but to start, Talking i'm gonna come to your
house and your family and kids are in. Danger do you,
Know I'm i'm a wrong guy to just friggin stop.

Speaker 14 (01:03:44):
Dying but He's he was an after late afternoon for
years with a Guy Barry, boards and then they moved
him to mid days and he's. Continued but this and
the fact that he worked For camp One step as
a board of director is a fund regular organization for kids.

Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
Triggers.

Speaker 14 (01:04:04):
Ah they're doing something this spring every, year a large
poker tournament to raise. Funds it's pinned on to go
to His twitter. Handle it's pinned at the top of
His twitter. Account but what he did with the guy
with the fish is just beyond and saying you just
can't do that kind of.

Speaker 7 (01:04:23):
Stuff but just just.

Speaker 14 (01:04:25):
Let let your folks know out, there this guy there
is no. Effect to my, knowledge there is nobody In
houston like this like.

Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
Him there are.

Speaker 6 (01:04:34):
No there may be In, Philadelphia New York. City, uh there's.

Speaker 5 (01:04:38):
No we're talking about you're talking about the like you're,
right boys And bernstein were awesome and when it comes
to they, rating you know WHEN i say awesome meaning powerful,
Radio and that's why he keeps having. Jobs he's a
lightning rod and one of the biggest ones in the
country in local. Radio there's no, doubt AND i respect
anybody who has the. Grind but then you know guys like,
that it's one.

Speaker 6 (01:04:57):
Thing in our.

Speaker 5 (01:04:57):
Job you push the, envelope but it's probably had his
handslap more than. He he is the he's the he's
The Bobby cox when it comes to getting ejected of sports.
Radio but it's a powerful but there's comes a point
in time when the abrasive that's what you're talking. About
the there's nobody like. Him the abrasive part of it
is what you're talking, about right one way or the.

(01:05:19):
Other and he doesn't know a middle.

Speaker 14 (01:05:20):
Gear, yeah he pushes a lot of buttons for a
lot of different. People SO i THOUGHT i just a
pad little extra on top of that BECAUSE i do
listen literally like almost and your ass.

Speaker 5 (01:05:30):
Will be tuned in when he comes back out of,
SUSPENSION i.

Speaker 6 (01:05:32):
Could guarantee you, right, absolutely you guys have a great.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Weekend take.

Speaker 5 (01:05:39):
Care, listen he's been he's been in the business for
a long. Time and it's also he knows what buts
the person get then they pull ratings and that's why
they keep putting him.

Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
On, WELL i, mean and there's something to be said
about you just being really good at, Radio like that's
one Thing i'll sound with a.

Speaker 6 (01:05:53):
Lifer.

Speaker 4 (01:05:53):
YEAH i was having a conversation with somebody in management
here about somebody that we both, know AND i just,
said you know what he.

Speaker 6 (01:06:00):
Is he's just he's just incredibly good on the.

Speaker 4 (01:06:04):
Radio you can put him on rock, radio you can
put him on talk, radio you can put him on sports.
Radio and they might not be the most adept at,
sports but they're entertaining the.

Speaker 6 (01:06:13):
Mechanics of, radio understanding what listeners want to. Hear, well
it's not only.

Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
Understanding what listeners want to, hear just understanding how to
be the most important part, entertaining because this is we're our,
Journalists dowd and you shouldn't be, either BECAUSE i mean,
again it gets back to don't take yourself too. Seriously
remember the life rules side the refrigerator Triple e's got
it written down so we can see it right. There
but that's what it, is is the goal of me

(01:06:40):
and you right. Here we want people to have a
good ride in the, work be able to take us
in the, work all of those different. Things because we're
entertaining enough that you care enough about what we're. Saying
as long as you do, that we have.

Speaker 5 (01:06:52):
Jobs and it's okay if some don't find it, entertained
but still tuned, in that means you've. Entertained and WHEN
i say give the listeners what they, one it's not
like you're. Good radio people speak the honest truth about
how they feel and let radio listeners decide which side
they want to sit.

Speaker 9 (01:07:06):
On.

Speaker 5 (01:07:07):
Right i've just never felt in my career DID i needed.
To whether it's anybody, Else i've never felt my. CAREER
i love the passion when we get in a disagreement
with the guy and on radio and they have their.
Opinion i've always respected their opinion BECAUSE i don't think
that we're. SMART i think there's plenty of people that
know sports like we. Do now maybe somebody hadn't played,

(01:07:27):
it but their opinions. Strong i've never felt that being
abrasive on radio where your goal is to piss the listeners.
Off my goal is to go to try to entertain
and you may piss the listeners off on the, Way
but where your number one priority is to want to
fight them all the.

Speaker 6 (01:07:43):
Time that that's to. Me WHO i wouldn't want to
come to work like.

Speaker 7 (01:07:47):
That.

Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
Now my opinion may be strong and different and they
may not like, it And i'm okay with. That LIKE
i always, say the ones that love you love. You
the ones that don't love, you that hate, You we're
still going to. Listen it's the ones in between that
you try to entertain them enough that they want to
turn on their radio when they got something else to
do and be a part of. It BUT i love
good listeners and the ones that want to baluly you
that have a different, OPINION i think it's.

Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Awesome, well those are the ones that usually are your biggest,
fans well without, you because It's, GOD i hate them so.
Much but you know, WHAT i just want TO i
please slip up and say something stupid so THAT i
can hammer you on.

Speaker 5 (01:08:18):
It there's an ass kissing, part and there's the hatred
that the anger, part you, know where the both ends
of the spectrum where you're like. Okay but for, me
it's like you can be passionate without hating somebody who
disagrees With i've just never understood it because you, know
sometimes somebody says, something you're, like you know, WHAT i
didn't think about. That that's a better that's a better
thought process THAN i. HAD i JUST i don't go

(01:08:40):
into work every day THINKING i go in LIKE i
love our. LISTENERS i may disagree or they may disagree with,
me BUT i can't imagine going in and, thinking you know,
What i'm going to be abrasive just to piss people
off Or i'm going to kiss their ass BECAUSE i
want somebody to like. Me the validation part doesn't come from.
That the validation part when you come off and he's, like,
okay entertaining radio one way or the, other and we'll let.

Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
Them never want to look at this as it's us
and you and you Know i'm up, here you're down,
there kind of deal you all look because, YEAH i
MEAN i want to look at it as you, know
meet somebody that's in our audience out somewhere they recognize
me and, say, hey, MAN i love the. Show and
look even if you don't like the. Show, hell you
see me out drinking a, beer tell me that's. Fine
we're in this love.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
Together when it comes to the, fan to the, listeners
you're you're not going anywhere if that they're not turning
on their radio or their their pre set on The
iHeart radio app and go hit that preset set it
right there because and by the, way we're like fourth
in the country right. Now, yeah it's, fourth fourth in
the country over like we Got milwaukee And, minnesota AND
i like good, competition and we're charging to be the

(01:09:42):
number one pre Set iHeartRadio app team in the. Country
we are right here In. Houston so take some pride
in it with, it hit, it use, it and preset
your dial To Sports talk seven ninety and let's. Go
because THEY i like the. Competition we follow those metrics
around the. Country we don't Want milwaukee beating, Us, no we,
don't just like we don't want to beat in us

(01:10:02):
in baseball or in football anywhere.

Speaker 6 (01:10:03):
Else so do.

Speaker 13 (01:10:04):
That BUT i.

Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
DO i.

Speaker 6 (01:10:05):
DO i love the.

Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
Job when it's, funny we're talking about. This certain parts
of the country do different type. RADIO i respect anybody
that's got a. GRIND i may not agree with their.
Take And Dan, bernstein whether you like what he says or,
not has been in the business a long, time so
he's doing something right For chicago.

Speaker 6 (01:10:21):
RADIO i don't have a problem with.

Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
IT i, do LIKE i, said when it gets to
the point of if my job has to fight a
listener THAT i That i'm or are somebody On, twitter
and we all have those moments where if you if
you you know you're you're fighting back and.

Speaker 6 (01:10:36):
Forth but there comes a point in time saying, man
step take a.

Speaker 5 (01:10:39):
Step, back, man because five years when you look at,
it you're gonna, say, well why they fight over?

Speaker 4 (01:10:43):
Us AT a lot of, times, yeah, no that's that's
that's a regret that does creep. In but a lot
of times it's, uh it's fun the troll a, troll.

Speaker 5 (01:10:50):
Oh yeah, yeah but especially. Face, yeah it's the self,
right you want to troll the guy who takes that
he invented? Twinter, no you know that that he invented
sports like to stop. It everybody has an, opinion yours
Isn't you didn't invent the forward? Pass probably, either DID i?
BROTHER i GOT i got enough problems in my. LIFE
i don't need. Yours that's pretty much the WAY i
look at. It that's, right and it's hard. Enough i'm

(01:11:14):
not good enough to carry everybody else's, problems BUT i
just but In chicago And bill it's. Validated do you
you want? Some it's a different. Type barkley said it.
Yesterday he goes a fan. Bases He charles lives In. Scottsdale,
yeah he. Goes and he lives In, phoenix and he
played For.

Speaker 6 (01:11:30):
Phoenix he.

Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
Goes if you're In, philly if you're In, boston if
you're In New. York And i've said it out, here
you may not like some of the fan, base but
they are. Passionate And i've done radio. There it's they.
Are they get after. It And chicago's similar to The East.

Speaker 6 (01:11:43):
Coast he.

Speaker 5 (01:11:44):
Goes in The West, coast they're just so nice and
everybody you, know you thought about. It The phoenix they're
not fighting over, it the fan, base and they're not
yelling at your. Mother they're welcoming your mother to. Dinner In,
philly they'll throwing stuff at your.

Speaker 6 (01:11:55):
Mother but it's the. Passion SO i do respect. Both
but on.

Speaker 5 (01:11:59):
This it ain't hard to be. Respectful it really. ISN'T
i don't have to like, YOU i don't have to
agree with. You i'm not you, KNOW i may not
be your. Friend but when it gets to the point
where there's not respect both, ways then then we're not
doing it. Right that's just the WAY i. Feel LIKE
i SAID i when we always call them, haters because
somebody disagrees with, you doesn't make them a. Hater some

(01:12:21):
of my best friends in the world will disagree with
me seventy five percent of the. TIME i still love.
Them so what that word hater so over? You oh you,
Disagree you're a? Hater, no dumb, ASS i just think
different than. You but there's a respect factor in all of,
life and it doesn't stop here that if you don't have,
It in my, opinion as a radio host or DOING,
tv if you don't have respect not only for somebody's,

(01:12:41):
opinion but for the kids and what you're saying it,
is we all get. Fired if you do have, passion
get out of the. Job but if you have, passion
there comes a point in time crossing the.

Speaker 6 (01:12:50):
Line we all have.

Speaker 5 (01:12:51):
Listened who hasn't been suspended or been, hey do that,
again your, Asses.

Speaker 6 (01:12:55):
You'll take a week. Off i've been in the principal,
always so you have to again get more than trust me.

Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
A lot a lot of times you're not doing your job,
right you're not, well then You're the truth is if you're,
not at least they have to call you in and, say, okay,
yeah then you you probably aren't good. Radio the great
radio people here across the country are. LOCALLY i assure
you have been in the principal's offices more than you.

Speaker 6 (01:13:16):
Think but that's. Okay but if you just approach this
job with preparation and, RESPECT i think that you. Win
couldness said it? Better all? Right coming up next a
boost for The.

Speaker 4 (01:13:28):
Rockets possibly we'll get into that as we continue to
roll along here on The Sean Salisbury Show Sports talk seven.

Speaker 3 (01:13:35):
Ninety we want to, Win Sean salisbury continues on seven.

Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
Ninety this is the team that, clearly AS i, mentioned
looking for their ninth straight. Win they're playing good basketball right.
Now but even with the good play Of Jabari Smith,
junior who's gone double figures the last four, games had
that thirty pointer Against philadelphia decent. Night the other night Against,
Orlando Fred Van vliet being back what he means to
this team both offensively and. Defensively you're talking about a

(01:14:04):
team that really could use a strong push to the,
finish AND i think we can all. Agree Amn thompson
is absolutely that guy from not only what he does
on the defensive, end but is.

Speaker 6 (01:14:14):
He a lockdown guy on that?

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
End?

Speaker 4 (01:14:15):
Well, Yeah and that's the thing IS i, mean it's
gotten to the POINT i think he Maye doka even
had the line where he said if he gives up,
POINTS i look at him AND i, say what did
you do?

Speaker 7 (01:14:24):
Wrong?

Speaker 6 (01:14:24):
Right like that's that's that's how much he trusts some
great pride in shutting you down on the defensive.

Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
End that and you know he is just as a
whole as a, Player he's the people who Criticized Jalen.
Green he's who they Wanted Jalen green to. Be and
it's not saying he won't get to be that, guy
but a Men, THOMPSON i, think is the guy that
you look at where it's h didn't expect this out of,
him but it's pleasantly.

Speaker 5 (01:14:48):
Surprised yeah it's and it's a blast. Watch but he
is intensity on the defensive.

Speaker 6 (01:14:53):
End he put it this.

Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
WAY a three point jump shot or getting to the
rim means a, lot but he stopping somebody on the
other end it appears to me just as. Much AND
i like guys like that that play both ends and
the effort on the defensive. End he is when you're
getting to the point where if somebody scores on, you
people are. Shocked you, know that's a little. Hyperbolic people
are going to, score but when the whole goal is

(01:15:14):
IF i get, mine you ain't getting. Yours and he lives,
that which is a good.

Speaker 4 (01:15:17):
Watch well it's ALSO i, mean he's getting massive praise
from players around the, League Kevin durant propping them. Up
Lebron james, too when he was asked about him and
his Brother asar of, saying, yeah those guys are, different
like they're they're they're playing the game at a different.
Level and you hear that thrown, out AND i understand
people have a reaction whenever you Hear Lebron james, Name
but the truth of the matter is he's one of

(01:15:39):
the best players in the game in its entire.

Speaker 6 (01:15:41):
History, well he's got great BASKETBALL.

Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
Iq, yeah and if he's if he's throwing that out,
there then then you know you've got a pretty.

Speaker 6 (01:15:47):
Special four, attention, yes paying, attention no doubt about.

Speaker 4 (01:15:50):
It and you get him back on the floor tonight
against The heat well, more you, know possibly, tonight it
seems Like sunday at least at the, latest because has
told You emy You toe saying he's got to go
through contact. Drills once he does, that if he responds looks,
good then all, right they'll throw him out. There but
you're facing A heat team that has lost nine of
their last, ten that have completely crumbled in the fourth

(01:16:12):
quarter of their. Games it seems like there is a
little bit of dysfunction In miami at this, point at
least from some of the reports that are out. There
and we usually when you hear, that Pat riley usually
steps in and, says all, right.

Speaker 5 (01:16:25):
We say they won't let it last. Long that guy
will not let the last one because he doesn't like.
Losing nobody. Does but Pat riley does something about. It
and Old Jimmy butler's Made Golden state a real. Threat,
NOW i mean they are a, threat and they added.
Him the guy can play basketball and look what he's
doing Mat it's.

Speaker 4 (01:16:40):
Impressive and you Had Steph curry go down last night
with a pelvic injury is what they're calling.

Speaker 5 (01:16:46):
It but the severity no, steph no, Chance, yes, okay that's.
It depending on how long that, is that's for.

Speaker 6 (01:16:52):
Sure.

Speaker 4 (01:16:53):
Yep so The rockets again taking on the heat tonight
six O'clock rockets Launch pack coming your way right here
On Sports talk Seven Cam. Smith the saga, continues is
he on this twenty six man roster or is the
future tense talking about him still in? Play we'll talk
about that here as we get into the eight o'clock.
Hour here on The Shawn Salisbury, SHOW.

Speaker 11 (01:17:16):
Kbm houston A CDs hd Two, houston my heart radio,
station The astross The, Rockets rockets your home for your home.
Teams this Is Sports talk seven ninety from The parsons
That Match Next, Studios, Salsbury, Olsbury.

Speaker 7 (01:17:41):
Houston, okay let's do.

Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
This Sean, Salisbury.

Speaker 15 (01:17:46):
Salisbury TO Usc, troupes longtime, Friend Shawn, Salisbury dan.

Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
Matthewscuse this is The Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
Show rockets In miami taking on the heat, tonight six
O'clock rockets Launch pad coming your, way looking for nine straight.
Wins astros And jupiter taking on The cardinals and that
one going to be just after, noon and you of
h moving on to the next round of THE ncaa

(01:18:16):
tournament to take On gonzaga in The Midwest. Region someone
three two one two five seven Ninety Adrian, John Jay
brandon see you all right there gets you all in
just a. Second but there was a piece of audio
earlier From Dana brown THAT i wanted to get into
is last night he was On Astro line and he
of course was talking About Cam smith and already gave

(01:18:38):
you earlier his impression Of smith's so, far but it
goes even, further as he's mentioned numerous times Aircraft, carrier
a guy that can hit thirty plus home runs in
the game could be on the cover of magazines. Someday
so the guys On Astro line asking the ASTROS, gm
why do you necessarily believe that he's going to be
a special?

Speaker 6 (01:18:58):
Player listen mentioned the scouting.

Speaker 10 (01:19:00):
Hat, Look i've been in baseball for thirty five years
and so oftentimes you, know you have to evaluate, players,
right but very rare do you get this type of
player that come along and you feel like he may
be a. Fit and, so, look we're making some tough
decisions and so you, know we want to put our

(01:19:23):
best team, forward and so we're having these conversations About Cam,
smith and you, know we we think he's really good
and we think he has really good, upside and so
we have to make a. Decision, look are we going
to start him in the major? Leagues he's going to
go to minor? Leagues what's going to?

Speaker 6 (01:19:39):
Happen right? Now i'm just telling you right, NOW i
love the way this guy swings the.

Speaker 10 (01:19:46):
Bat he has really good at, Bats he sees a
lot of, pitches he's well at, banced and so he's
making it really tough for, us.

Speaker 6 (01:19:54):
Making it really tough for.

Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
Us you know WHAT i hear right, There, sean When
Dana brown is talking a guy that IS i don't
even know if the word is what it, is. DILIMINIZED i,
MEAN i think people have thrown that out. There there's
probably a different way to say, it but, ANYWAY i
hear a guy that he wants, selfishly he wants to
Have Cam smith on that twenty six man. Roster BUT

(01:20:16):
i think he looks at everything else and just, says all,
right if we Have Cam smith on the, roster that
might mean that a guy without options goes somewhere, Else
but we really like that guy, too so we'd like
to be able to keep him. Around so how can
we kind of have the best of both? Worlds and
that's WHERE i think that probably one day he goes
into the room and, Says, hey this guy's done. Enough

(01:20:36):
he's we're gonna find a way to put him on this.
Roster and then there's other days where he looks and, says,
WELL i mean exactly the first scenario, throughout then that
means we've got to send somebody else to be on
another major league, roster and that guy could possibly hurt.
Us that's WHAT i hear from the ASTROS gm talking
with the guys last night on the.

Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
Astroline OH I i one percent.

Speaker 5 (01:20:58):
AGREE i, NO i with the, decision But i'm leaning,
towards aren't. You, well what's the opening day? Lineup who's
in the outfield McCormick And, Wright myers and center and
and uh Al tavan? Left and where is where Does
cam open up third? Base and TRIPLE a?

Speaker 4 (01:21:13):
Right because they want to play him with you if
you're gonna send him down, there and you are serious
about having him up here, quickly because you brought East Sock,
perettis and he's going to be there for the next few.

Speaker 6 (01:21:22):
Years you could sure. Trade this is a.

Speaker 5 (01:21:26):
Chance and you mentioned yesterday if you're going to put
him down there and you're not gonna put him on
the major league. Roster, obviously if he's on the major league,
roster you're going to play. Him you want him get
it Bats if you don't think he's going to get
the amount of at bats because you always you still
think he's young but an explosive, talent.

Speaker 4 (01:21:40):
Don't you got to play him at the position you
want him to that you speak down the road Because
i'm not worried about him at third. Base Pay he's
not going to forget about how to play third, base.

Speaker 5 (01:21:48):
So he put him back there already right fielder and
sugar land when when The mets come to town is
what you're, yes, yeah and you think that you can
tell the hint and the voice is the the he's talented, Special,
uh tough decisions was the key to tell you he's.

Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
Not on the major league roster BECAUSE i from listening
To Dana brown right, there he sounds like a guy
that a says, yes the guy's done enough to be
able to make this roster and b THAT'S i, mean
it's he wants to be able to do, it like
he wants to be able to have him on this.
Roster BUT i mean it's for the reasons that we,
said they want to be able to make sure That

(01:22:24):
chas McCormick can be able to show them whether or
not he can. Play i've said, it AND i said it, Yesterday.
SEAN i think this first month of the season is
a chance for Either Jake myers Or chas McCormick to
stick and stay and the other guy either get demoted sent.
OFF i don't know what would happen to either McCormick
Or myers if indeed they got beat out by the.

(01:22:45):
Other but the GOAL i think is by may first
to Have Cam smith on this. Roster AND i, mean you,
know even though it's not necessarily his first. Position let's
go back to was it twenty seventeen is When Cody
ollinger came up with The.

Speaker 6 (01:23:00):
Dodgers he's an outfielder by.

Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
Trade he's a very athletic, guy but they also needed
a first basement at the, time so they said go,
down learn learn first. Base when you come back up,
here you're going to be pretty much our everyday first.

Speaker 6 (01:23:14):
Baseman.

Speaker 5 (01:23:14):
Yeah and he played all three outfield positions. Too was
he did he start in centerfield Or i'm not talking
about the. Dodge was he a centerfielder, first or a
right field er?

Speaker 6 (01:23:24):
First?

Speaker 5 (01:23:24):
Centerfielder, yeah and he PLAYED i think he's played both
corner outfields as well in his. Career and, yeah, right
and then then obviously first base when he was. There
so he was versatile enough to do it and make the.
Change and we saw what his bat was and an
m V p type. Player seems like the bat's starting
to you, know he went through some difficult times as.
Well so, yeah to, me if you're prime And Cam

(01:23:46):
smith to play the, outfield play, him like you, SAID
i can always. Play he knows third, base he knows that.
Position he started to become more adept as these guys to.
Play you, know he could play left. Field right field
is a difficult. Position so if you if you and
if that's the reason that he's not on the, roster,
OKAY i get. That if it's the defensive part of,
it you're still having him. Learn like Bogus sevic had,

(01:24:08):
mentioned when you've been in The league like game right
to keep up with. It and it's true because at,
QUARTERBACK i look at it AND i, think, okay while
college football's Fast sundays are differently because because the edge
rusher outruns your running. Back, okay, Yea so it is
different and. DECISIONS i always say. This high school windows
are twelve yards for a quarterback to. Throw the window

(01:24:29):
closes in college and then you got to throw to
a coffee kan sized window with anticipation in THE nfl
if you want to be good at it and accurate
on a regular. Basis SO i get. IT i still
want him on the major. League the greed of. IT
i think he can. Succeed but if it comes to,
IT i don't. Think and you said by, MAY i
think you're probably. Right and if he does and he's
raking and he comes, up it may be stayed. Permanently

(01:24:50):
SO i get.

Speaker 6 (01:24:51):
It that's the.

Speaker 4 (01:24:51):
GOAL i, mean the goal is to have him up,
here stay up here and be able to produce for this.
Team and we'll see if he is able to do.
That let's get out to the. Phone lin against seven, one, three,
two two five seven ninety got a couple of lines
open if you want to weigh in here on The
astros or anything else we've touched on. Today adrian wants
to weigh in here On Sports talk seven. Ninety what's, Up?
Adrian not a?

Speaker 15 (01:25:13):
Lot this baseball team's pissing me? Off oh all, right
and That i'm pretty d. Uh you know what that
sounds like to? Me that sounds like a guy bought
here to do his job that can't do his.

Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Job he's in one ear and he's.

Speaker 15 (01:25:26):
Got three other people on the other side in the other,
year and he can't do his job as.

Speaker 6 (01:25:31):
Normal we know what we're.

Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
Gonna get out Of. Jake we get the same. Thing
we've seen this.

Speaker 15 (01:25:37):
Play we know what we're gonna get out Of. Chats
we saw His World series saving. Catch we've seen nothing
day we always see nothing or he gets. Hurt what
is there to determine they're gonna send this kid? Down
like you, said, mate what? Happens we're ten fifteen games
out because of these. Two they can't bat over two

(01:26:01):
oh nine and two. Twenty why not give the kid
a chance to start up. Here if he can't handle,
it send him. DOWN i don't care How jake. FIELDS
i don't care How chad's. Fields they've been, Here we've
seen them do absolutely. Nothing mister A, Tv i'm not
gonna even mention his name until he gets on around

(01:26:23):
in a major league game and starts throwing for major league,
outs far as he's, concerned and The rockets all come
on email hold this position BECAUSE i can't, wait because
during the, playoffs everybody's gonna have to adjust to. You
they're gonna see a eighty eight to ninety three team style,

(01:26:45):
defense Rough, Rogus Charles, oakley and ain't nobody gonna know
what to? Do ALL i want to know is who's
gonna be.

Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
The first team to?

Speaker 15 (01:26:53):
Go they play too, Rough they filed too. Much that
wasn't a foul he hit. Me come, All, Rockets, sean
have a good golf, Weekend, dan go do what you,
do triple.

Speaker 1 (01:27:06):
Pay you know how we do, it, baby and the
rest of.

Speaker 6 (01:27:09):
Yall there you, Go adrian bringing the heat right.

Speaker 4 (01:27:12):
There in terms, of you, know starting off with this
first point About Dana, brown you know the other people
in the, EAR i, Mean Jeff bagwell is still at the,
organization but you, Know Reggie jackson was also thought of
as being a guy that had the ear Of Jim,
crane Where's Reggie?

Speaker 6 (01:27:30):
Jackson?

Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
Now LIKE i, mean it sounds like at least when
it comes to control of the personnel and every other
decision that needs to be made in that, REGARD i
think That Jim crane pretty much has earned the trust
of the other way around That Dana brown has earned
the trust Of Jim crane of this is what you
think we need to, do then that's what we're going to.
Do like he's got full autonomy when it comes to

(01:27:52):
the personnel of this, TEAM.

Speaker 5 (01:27:55):
I would, say, probably are you asking me or telling?
Me i'm telling? YOU i would say that that he.
Does but when it comes to the big, money the
full autonomy belongs to the guy's a step above. Him
but when it comes to personnel, DECISIONS i Think Danta
brown is very good at in making sure others have

(01:28:17):
a he. WANTS i think he wants information from OTHERS i.
DO i MEAN i gather that from every week me
interviewing him on the. Show but full autonomy to make.
DECISIONS i think that that's what the general manager's supposed to.
Do when you have too many chefs in the, kitchen it's.
Problem BUT i also think That Dana Brown. Leans he's
made His he's made a killing as a as a,
guy as a talent, evaluator he just. Has he's been

(01:28:39):
great at it and now's A gm and trying to
lock down. This he's done some good things and AND
i Understand adrian's frustration with the Cam smith Because i'd
be frustrated. Too BUT i GUESS i gotta, trust you,
know the guy who's been around it every. Day but,
yes full, autonomy for. Sure but when it comes to
like the next Time fromer's contract comes, around you know
where that full autonomy. Is you know he's gonna have.

(01:29:00):
Time we want, Him but guess who's going to make that.
Decision it's going to come down To, bucks, right but
on the talent. Side but, Yes i've always said on this,
show if you hire a general, manager you hire him
because you trust him and you've got to empower him
to do that. Job and if he, doesn't you move.
On if he, does then that's why you hired him
in the first. Place so, YES i don't. Believe and

(01:29:20):
full of. TIME i think a GOOD gm or a
good leader leans on the people he also has hired
or has around. Him scouting, department the talent, department the analytics,
department the capologist, department even though it's not a. Capologist
you get my, point the money, guys and Also Joe
aspot and the talent on the field because even though you, know,
man you no talent in the clubhouse and watching him
every day As dany. Does but also you know in

(01:29:43):
the huddle you got to have it and in the
clubhouse and in the dugout THAT i do want to
lean on people to do. It but, yes when the
final decisions, made who's going where it should Be Dana.

Speaker 4 (01:29:53):
Brown the thing you just mentioned there About Joe. ASPOTA i,
mean anybody in this league can manage. Talent you, know,
hey fill out a line of. Card that's the easy.
Part it's everything else of when to get on the, guys,
when when the back, Off, when when to you, know
push this button that.

Speaker 6 (01:30:09):
Button that's that's the hardest part of the.

Speaker 5 (01:30:11):
Job there's noe and see for, me when people talk
about leaders manage, people, WELL i disagree with. THAT i
think leaders manage tasks and lead. People there's a big.
Difference when somebody, says, hey, man that guy's a great.
Leader he knows how to manage. PEOPLE i disagree with.
THAT i don't think leaders and manage go hand in
hand with human. BEINGS i think leaders and. Tasks when

(01:30:32):
you're going to manage a, task what kind of coffee's
being served in the, building all the tasks that go with,
that and how to also empower others and delegate that
to others and oversee the. Task but that's managing tasks
and leading. People there's a big difference because there's a
lot of great managers people who can manage. Tasks there's
not a lot of great leaders that know how to do.

(01:30:52):
It and if you can do, both don't mistake. IT
i think there is a delineation between leading people and
managing tasks to be able to separate through when they cross.

Speaker 6 (01:31:01):
OVER i think it's a.

Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
Mistake one of the names you, mentioned my mind is
made up on them both in the immediate future and
in beyond. Seasons we'll talk about that coming up. Next,
Also jay And john c all right there if you
want to join them someone three two one two five
seven Ninety it's The Shawn Salisbury, Show Sports talk seven.

Speaker 3 (01:31:18):
Ninety let the celebration, start Or Sean. Salisbury it's A
Sean Salisbury. Show, joe what's going?

Speaker 1 (01:31:28):
On?

Speaker 16 (01:31:31):
Hey BECAUSE i was watching a few videos and they
were saying That josel Two bay is embarrassing The astros
in left. Field AND i want to get y'all's opinion on.
It if he doesn't play left? Field does he go
back to? Second if he? Does and who plays? Second
and who plays left? Field And i'll hang up and.

Speaker 4 (01:31:51):
Listen, well hold, On, Joe not that it really, matters
but who's They who's in the video saying?

Speaker 13 (01:31:56):
This?

Speaker 6 (01:31:57):
Oh well there you?

Speaker 1 (01:31:58):
Go Nah.

Speaker 6 (01:32:01):
Online, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:32:04):
I've never had it brought this example to the, show
But i'll bring it. Now there's a thing THAT i
learned a long time ago that a buddy of mine
told me Called Peter king. Theory and the whole thing
is Is Peter king knows a lot more about THE
nfl than you, do but you know more about your
team than they. Do AND i don't know who this
is most People i've, Seen LIKE i saw a video
yesterday ON Mlb Network Alex avila talking about Al twova

(01:32:28):
out and left sounded a lot Like Brian bogusvik Of
he's gonna make his, mistakes, sure but he's played this
game long. Enough he knows the angles of this game long,
enough he'll get it figured. Out he'll be fine out.
There it's the other people who. CASUAL i guess you
could say the name that are the ones who they
hang on the two eras that he had this week and, say,

(01:32:50):
oh this is going to be an abject failure out.
There it's already looking like it's a.

Speaker 6 (01:32:54):
Disaster. YEAH i think we're way premature for. That cose
he made a few.

Speaker 5 (01:32:59):
Airs the opt of the two airs make it look
like it's happens every, day and, that oh my, gosh
we got no shot to succeed with.

Speaker 6 (01:33:05):
IT i get.

Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
It but.

Speaker 5 (01:33:08):
The and to answer his, question If Jose altuve failed
in left, field he.

Speaker 6 (01:33:13):
Will be the second. Baseman he's gonna be a lineup every.

Speaker 5 (01:33:16):
Day they're not anticipating failure as he continues to play into.
IT i would prepare you that one of those gaffes
will happen during the, season and probably more than. One
whether it's a throwing, air a base running air that we've,
seen you.

Speaker 6 (01:33:30):
May get some of. These he's known for the base running.
Blunders and put it this, way his left field may
look more like at times his base running that it
does is, bad, Okay and if you're prepared for, that
then you understand it isn't gonna look smooth at. Times.

Speaker 5 (01:33:45):
Uh it just happened to have two back to back
days where it's like it's a. DISASTER i don't know
if it's going to be a. Disaster there's. Not he's
not gonna win A Gold. Glove so the concern of
fans should be. There BUT i do know this that
if you're concerned as a, fan even though they'll be,
Upbeat joe spot And Dana brown probably have some. Concerns,
defensively of course you. Do it's new and after all

(01:34:07):
these years training new dog new, tricks meaning all those
years and at the you, know in the last couple
of years of, career you're switching.

Speaker 6 (01:34:13):
Positions come on now.

Speaker 4 (01:34:14):
Shown he had players At FanFest when being asked about,
it we're laughing about.

Speaker 2 (01:34:17):
It.

Speaker 4 (01:34:17):
Yeah then when we Had joe spot on, on he was, like,
no we've had, Discussions we've talked to him about.

Speaker 6 (01:34:21):
It there you.

Speaker 5 (01:34:21):
Go so there it's gonna. Be there's gonna be some
growing pains for A kg veteran who's been in the.
League you're just gonna have to deal with, that but
disasters awfully. MORBID i, mean so disaster does that mean
you get what you got on those two Plays on
a regular. Basis he's made some plays out there as,
Well so your expectations shouldn't be that you're Getting Roberto

(01:34:43):
clemente from right field to left field With JOSEL. Tiv
BUT i would SEE i would probably start off giving
him benefit out saying as A kg, veteran he's going
to learn and, understand and there'll be. MOMENTS i don't
think if The astros were to struggle this year and
not make the playoffs at the end of the, YEAR
i DON'T i think you're going to say Jose L
tov blew it for us in left. Field they'll be

(01:35:03):
airs and they'll be airs at other positions and he.
Won't it may not look pretty doing, it but it'll be.
GROWING i expect him to get better like anybody else's
he goes along and if to the point understanding, that
like you, said we're from a. Distance we watch it
as fans and as, fans BUT i would think the
guys in the building who study the tape and watch
him and are coaching him every day have an, idea
what we should be concerned, about what we shouldn't be

(01:35:26):
and there's no way there feel one hundred percent. Comfortable
but as long as they feel comfortable enough to say
it'll be, serviceable his bat will make up for.

Speaker 6 (01:35:34):
It on the other, END i would think.

Speaker 4 (01:35:35):
Two things can be, different but it can also be
the same in certain. Aspects and you, know To joe's,
points a lot of that is people just want to go.
Viral so if you say things like, that then of
course the reaction that's there you. Go and a lot
of that is also stemmed From astro's bad on the national,
Schemes so we want to make them look as bad
as possible at all. Times how stupid are they for
putting Jose L tv out in left? Field the other

(01:35:57):
part that can be. True he ain't out there for his.
Glove he's out there because you can't have two d,
hs so you've got to be able to find a
way to be able to get him in the.

Speaker 6 (01:36:04):
Lineup But jordan playing.

Speaker 5 (01:36:05):
Left field one hundred and forty five, games there you,
go and let alone one, hundred there you.

Speaker 4 (01:36:09):
Go you want to improve your defense as best you,
can AND i understand that doesn't necessarily as a whole
improve your, Defense but you also don't want to take
away from what's going to win you ball, games and
that's putting runs on the.

Speaker 6 (01:36:21):
Board that's.

Speaker 5 (01:36:21):
Right put it this, way his bat will be far
better than his glove is. Bad does that make? Sense,
Yes so that that's kind of that's what that's what
outweighs the negative. Exactly there you, Go.

Speaker 4 (01:36:32):
DOZEKIS i KNOW i SAID i was gonna get you in.
Yesterday your time is. Now what's going?

Speaker 17 (01:36:36):
On and then it's good to talk to, you my
man on the morning. SHOW i think you're doing an
awesome jump AND i guess you might as well start
showing the. Contract my?

Speaker 6 (01:36:47):
Brother is that?

Speaker 1 (01:36:48):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (01:36:48):
Shot you might as? Well what.

Speaker 15 (01:36:51):
Sign the?

Speaker 17 (01:36:51):
Contract?

Speaker 6 (01:36:52):
Oh keep you, there, buddy have at. It, Brother there you.

Speaker 1 (01:36:55):
Go i'm with.

Speaker 17 (01:36:56):
You i'll put in a good word for you With Gordy.
Dan don't, worry it's all. Goody. Hey, Listen Sean, on
you were talking this morning about how rough the sports
fans are In, Philly New.

Speaker 6 (01:37:14):
York up in The East.

Speaker 13 (01:37:14):
COAST i grew up.

Speaker 17 (01:37:18):
Watching ON. Tv that's why they're my favorite, Teams The,
celtics The Red sox and all. That BUT i don't
know if you've Seen. Sean it brought a lot of
memories to. ME i think this month of last month
the show came up IN, Hbo Celtics. City have you
seen any of those shows you?

Speaker 6 (01:37:36):
GET i have.

Speaker 2 (01:37:38):
NOT i have.

Speaker 17 (01:37:38):
Not, well when you have a, chance we have some.
Time and also For Dan gott to watch the, show
because the sports fans back in the seventy sixties man's were.
ROUGH i mean they were rough on the players and
obviously there was a lot of stuff going on with
the you know what happened those days of segregation and all.

(01:37:59):
That so it's very interesting AND i got to see
a lot of old school players THAT i grew up listening.
To maybe one day you guys can elaborate on the,
knicks you know those teams. Were basketball is not the same,
Today sean And, dan you know back then is so different,
nowadays all about shooting three and all. That the defense
is not like he used to. Be but it's a

(01:38:20):
pretty interesting. Show and also going back to the IF
i have some, time going back to The rogers, Thing,
SEAN i kind of have a. Hinge I'm i'm a
back of friend, too he's going to probably end up
with The. Viking say just my, own my own. Comming and, Also,
dan since you're from The vinna, area, Correct, No i'm from.

Speaker 6 (01:38:40):
HERE i just went and worked there for a few.

Speaker 17 (01:38:41):
Years so you do you know a lot of history
on The.

Speaker 6 (01:38:45):
BRAEVES i mean, YEAH i mean, sure.

Speaker 17 (01:38:49):
Yeah i'm going to throw you a triple question and
you can intella back in nineteen seventy three BECAUSE i
grew up allalying the bridge, too the first three players
to hit forty home runs in one. Season AND i
think y'a nosey. Fansy if you have a, chance answer from,
Me and it's a pleasure to talk to you. Guys
god bless of a pleasant, weekend And i'm looking forward
to continue listening to your show LIKE i always. DO
i don't call that, much But I'm alwa. School i've

(01:39:11):
been listening To radiers show since nineteen, seventies SO i
enjoy listening and you guys sometimes make my. Day take,
Care god bless and have a pleasant weekend again you.

Speaker 6 (01:39:18):
TOO i appreciate, it, man appreciate. It, yeah that was
before my.

Speaker 4 (01:39:22):
TIME i was born in the, eighties and of COURSE
i think like most, kids ch a child of the
nineties with The braves ON, tbs So i'm probably gonna
miss that. One but, yeah if you ask me anything
About Glavin, Maddox, smolts you, Know Chipper, clusco those, guys
THEN i can probably answer it a little bit.

Speaker 6 (01:39:39):
Better. YEAH i think that was probably.

Speaker 4 (01:39:41):
Mine, yeah that is obviously know About, hank you, know
know About, dale those. Guys But Bob, horner, yes, yes
WHICH i saw a funny meme about him the other
day Of Bob. Horner it, said looks like he could
hit forty bombs and have two top ten hits on
the country charts.

Speaker 6 (01:39:57):
At the same.

Speaker 5 (01:39:57):
Time there's no doubt AND i don't Think horner played
one inning of minor league baseball interest coming out Of Arizona.

Speaker 6 (01:40:03):
STATE i don't think he.

Speaker 5 (01:40:03):
Did you can check your due, diligence BUT i think
That Bob horner went straight from the. Draft if he,
did it was one. GAME i don't think he spent
any time in minor. LEAGUES i think he was in
with The Atlanta bredves right after he got.

Speaker 4 (01:40:17):
Drafted, interesting, okay, well you, know the more you, KNOW
i guess and dose taking us through a history lesson this,
morning so appreciate. That all, right coming up, next do
you want to get back into a little bit Of march,
madness As john c you right, there you want to get.
In but one of the storylines Of march madness that
seemingly is dominating everything that is happening this, weekend we

(01:40:39):
will discuss that here on The Sean Salisbury Show Sports
talk seven Ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:40:42):
All, right, guys, hey when it gets To Country Boys,
roofing so grateful to continue this great relationship with our
Guy john and his team At Country Boys. Roofing and

Them it's a certified installer Of atlas and certified shingles as,
well and we obviously know that Their Texas windstorm certified as.
Well and all those. Discounts, see they're important because they're
not price gouging at a time when you're a storm,
hits whether it's a hurricane or, rain or it's just

(01:41:25):
old on your, roof or you just want to get
out in front of the. Storm you want somebody to
do it. Right one thousand dollars off if you just
mentioned my name and that's the whole. Roof but if
you're a first, responder a military or an, educator it's one,
thousand five hundred dollars. Off you know, what when you're
working that, hard you deserve that extra. Benefit but the
one thing about it, all you're getting out on the

(01:41:46):
full roof when you go get this estimate From, john he.
CARES i love guys who are invested in you that
aren't just a you, know stamping you and moving on
to the next one assembly.

Speaker 6 (01:41:56):
Line that they care and they do great, work which.

Speaker 5 (01:41:59):
Matters restaurant can look good on the, Outside i'm referring
to a, restaurant but if the food don't taste could you're?
Done same thing with somebody who's making sure your roof
and your home and your family is. Safe, yeah they
can tell you about, it but if they don't do good,
work then they won't withstand the test of. Time Countryboy's
roofing does it's country with The Cave boys with A.
Z it's countryboysroofing Dot. Com no need to put THE

(01:42:20):
llc on there, anymore which is a good, thing easy to.

right for. You it is countryboysroofing dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:42:54):
And live out there For The Sean Salisbury show.

Speaker 6 (01:42:57):
Continues good, morning.

Speaker 12 (01:43:00):
Guys uh, Yeah I'm I'm i'm concerned about this upcoming
game With.

Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
Gonzaga.

Speaker 12 (01:43:06):
Uh they looked great Against georgia and they're a team
that's peaking at the right.

Speaker 1 (01:43:11):
TIME i, mean they had their struggles the beginning of the,
season but.

Speaker 6 (01:43:14):
They're looking Like gonzaga, now aren't. They, John, yeah they
are they.

Speaker 12 (01:43:17):
Are they're a well coached, team as we all, know
they've always been well, coached and uh SO i hope
you OF h really comes out strong in this game
because they're going to have. TO i, Mean gonzaga just
that was a whooping that they put On georgia AND
i certainly wasn't expecting, That SO I i am. CONCERNED
i am concerned about, that and UH i hope that

(01:43:39):
u OF ah shows the intensity.

Speaker 1 (01:43:40):
That they they you, know that they bring every. GAME
i expect them.

Speaker 12 (01:43:43):
To but uh you, KNOW i do have a lot
of concern about this game Because gonzaga looks really really
tough right, now AND.

Speaker 1 (01:43:50):
I think that's a tough team at you, know in this.

Speaker 12 (01:43:52):
Tournament the second thing IS i wanted to follow on What,
adrian who had called, in had, said and you, KNOW
i totally agree with. HIM i Think Cam smith belongs
in THE. BIGS i don't think he should be sent.
DOWN i, mean his stats prove, it and, UH i
JUST i just think it's a no. Brainer you, Know
Cam smith has not hit any ceiling. YET i, mean

(01:44:14):
whatever he's supposed to, do he surpasses.

Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
It and his batting.

Speaker 12 (01:44:18):
Average in the way he's hitting that, BALL i, mean
it shows. It and, UH i think he really belongs
in that starting lineup and they can worry about the
center field or, something but he needs to be in right.

Speaker 1 (01:44:30):
Field he needs to be. Playing we need his. Bat
AND i just hope that The astros aren't you, KNOW
i hope they're they they don't wimp out on this
in the. BEGINNING i just think that they have to
play the guy and let's. See let's.

Speaker 12 (01:44:45):
SEE i, mean so, far he's blown past every expectation
of him AND i AND i, said like two months,
ago this guy is going to be a fine and
he's going to make us forget About tucker real, QUICK i.

Speaker 1 (01:44:55):
Think and, uh and that's that's about. IT i just
wanted to weigh in that BECAUSE i.

Speaker 12 (01:45:01):
Hope that The ashers put their best players on that
team on the field opening day and let's see what.
Happens and so, Anyways i'm on and you all have
a great.

Speaker 6 (01:45:11):
Weekend, johnny appreciate. It, well you're not getting a argument from, Me.
LISTEN I.

Speaker 5 (01:45:17):
I always defer they're making the. Decision we don't have
to agree with it to respect. It But I'M i
think with times we over protect. PLAYERS i just do
and if somebody would have proven they were far better
Than Cam smith this. SPRING i know that it's a
body of work history wise and veteran wise and the

(01:45:38):
rest of.

Speaker 6 (01:45:39):
It but they're just some guys that are different just
the same.

Speaker 5 (01:45:44):
Way you can bring him put him, down and keep
him down and bring him. Up the same philosophy goes
where you can bring him up and send him. Down
that's been the normal occurrence in. Baseball that. Happens you
bring them, up maybe doesn't, work they send Back with
many a, Superstar i've been up and down. BEFORE i
want to test his mental toughness. Too if he's, struggling

(01:46:04):
how does he pull out of, it because that'll tell
me a lot about WHAT i can think of in the.
Future and if he does turn out to make people
forget About Kyle, tucker As john had, said And john
did say it about a month and a half ago
or two months, ago so Before campsmith took a swing
in a month and a half, ago before he took
a swing in spring. Training so, listen WHEN i SAY
i hate the, Decision i'm not going to say it's
not a hate decision because he ain't going. Far if

(01:46:26):
he goes to the minor. Leagues but for, ME i
don't know what you have to lose by bringing him
here and starting. Him he has been your best player
at the, plate in the outfield this. Spring it's minor
league pitch. Great once, again we have selective because if
it was a veteran doing, it we'd, say he looks
like he's in rhythm and ready to. GO i, say

(01:46:49):
put him out there. Now if you told me he
was up there and get a, place, souoner not get at,
Bats i'd say send him down and go get it.
Bats but my question next would be If dana was
sitting here today and when we start with, HIM i
will ask, Him, okay so why isn't he? Here, well
we wanted to get him. Here is he one of
your best? Players, yeah we want to get him at?
Bats why not at the major? LEAGUE i, mean of,
Course And dana will do what he always. Is he's

(01:47:09):
transparent in the. LANCEROM i just for, Me i'm not
THE gm of this team And i'm not the, manager
BUT i have seen nothing from Cam smith other than
the age on his that his, age and that he
hasn't spent a lot of time in the minor. Leagues
that tells me he doesn't belong, here and until something different,
happens he would be on the opening day.

Speaker 6 (01:47:30):
Roster you have.

Speaker 4 (01:47:31):
About four spots open on your bench for position, players
AND i think that's what The astros are looking at
it as is you want to Have chas, McCormick to
give him him a, chance because, well he's earned a
chance to be able to prove he can bounce Back Jake.
Myers he's proven that with the way that he plays the,
outfield with his speed and how he is able to
track down baseballs and With. Smith have him up, here

(01:47:53):
it's beneficial in its own, right but it's also more
beneficial for him to be playing every single. Day and
that's the way The astros look at it. Now in
terms of you OF H sean With gonzaga tomorrow, NIGHT
i thought about this this. Morning you OF h has
Played gonzaga five times this year in, conference AND i
mean Ariz you, Know arizona is one of those. Teams you,

(01:48:14):
Know Iowa state one of those teams that is really,
good can beat. You B yu another one of those.
Teams so in terms of, it you just kind of, dangerous.
Man they proved that yesterday against AGAINST vcu able to move.
On BUT i mean that's there's nobody in that, meeting you,
know before the, game Between Kevin Kelvin sampson and the

(01:48:36):
players that are, like, hey we got these, guys don't
worry about. It Kelvin sampson's telling, Them, no this is
a team that's been, here that has proven they can
win here and wants to be able to move on
the next.

Speaker 5 (01:48:44):
Weekend and you're standing in their. Way, hey you're running
into a basketball coach And Mark few who gets? It
who Knows and if you were ever going to have
the struggle and get hot or the hot and get,
struggle this is the way you want it to. Work
you may have your struggles didn't look like normal Ganz
zaga a portion of this, year But i'm telling you right,
now they're playing good basketball now and they are dangerous as.

(01:49:06):
Well AND i promise You Kelvin samson is not going
to say okay once we get By. Gonzaga this is
he recognizes not only that they're well coached and been
and battle tested in tournament. Play while we talked they're
not a blue blood program because they haven't been around
Like Kentucky North, carolina but they are a powerhouse in
college basketball now pushing towards blue BLOOD i. Separate we

(01:49:27):
had the question asked us a blue blood and powerhouse blue?
Blood are they a blue blood program for?

Speaker 3 (01:49:32):
ME?

Speaker 5 (01:49:33):
Ucla even though you see all he's not, Winning they're
still a blue blood. Program gonzaga knows how to. Win
they're a powerhouse program that can get recruits and play
Dangerous and there's not one ounce in my mind of
DATA i mean of A Kelvin sampson and this team
that thinks they're going into play some hack that.

Speaker 4 (01:49:52):
Is definitely not the. Case it's going to be a tough.
Game and you of aged favored by four and a
half according TO espn. Bets so The koog's trying to
be able to move on to the next weekend of
THE ncaa. Tournament we'll continue the tournament talk here as
the show continues to roll.

Speaker 6 (01:50:08):
Along also See al And.

Speaker 4 (01:50:10):
John you guys want to get in on the, astros
so we'll do that here as we are here with
you until ten o'clock On Sports talk seven.

Speaker 5 (01:50:18):
Ninety hey, Guys Trajanwealth trasianwealth Dot com a local trusted,
fiduciary financial.

Speaker 6 (01:50:23):
Fiduciary the obligation is to, you.

Speaker 5 (01:50:26):
And it is tournament, Time march, madness and we, all,
Well i'm not gonna say we, all BUT i like
to bet a little. Bit But i'm sure As i'll
not bet my retirement on a team in this. Now
IF i was you know, WHO i bet it on my,
Guy Calvin sampson's. Team but AND i do, that but
not my. Retirement i'm a little wiser than that because,
well it's sports and then the other one's. Life there's,

(01:50:47):
pressure there's pressure to do the right then your job
and the rest of it or what you're. Doing But
i'll tell you what that retirement when you see it
in the rearview mirror on the rights or the side
view mirror that says objects are closer than they, appear
it comes fast and if you're not, prepared it'll get.
You and who wants to retire then go back to
work if they're forced. To if you want to go
back to, work go back to. Work wouldn't it be

(01:51:09):
nice to be able to have that? Option and that
option can be helped be created By Trajan wealth because
of their expertise and they're a family owned and veteran
led team By Jeff. Junior they've seen this many, many,
many many many, times both the those who aren't prepared
those who. Are so if you're looking to you, know
four to ONE k, expertise you, know insurance, expertise the

(01:51:29):
risk tolerance that you might want your, portfolio their obligation
is to you and you've got, Questions they got answers
and expertise matters when it comes to retirement and your
finances and security and generational wealth and making sure you
can stay. Retired people are living longer and that you
have enough money to stay retired and have those. Options
isn't it nice to know you've got somebody that's got

(01:51:51):
your back and is there and has expertise for those
questions you. Have and That's Trajan well three four six
three seven one thirty three thirty three four six three
seven one thirty three. THIRTY i would imagine peace of, mind,
security matter and retirement and then having the option if
you want to go back to.

Speaker 6 (01:52:06):
Work go back to, work but not because you're.

Speaker 5 (01:52:09):
Forced you better prepare like you do a vacation times
a thousand when it comes to every detail in your
retirement thirty years from, now two years from, now or
you're already in. It It's trajanwealth dot. Com they know
how important peace of mind. Is trasianwealth Dot. Com That's
trasanwealth Dot com advisory services offer Through Trasian WEALTH, llc
AN sec registered investment, advisor paid.

Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
Advertisement The Shawn Salisbury show continues on seven ninety and
continues in your. Home Say, alexa Play Sports talk seven
ninety On iHeartRadio.

Speaker 6 (01:52:44):
On opening day a week from. Yesterday that's a good.
Thing love. IT i can't.

Speaker 5 (01:52:48):
WAIT i will not be. SURPRISED i, MEAN i Know Jordon's,
jordan BUT i won't be. Surprised If Christian walker is
as consistent a hitter we have on this team this,
year it will not surprise.

Speaker 6 (01:52:58):
Me not at all consistent in terms of just just run.

Speaker 5 (01:53:03):
Producer yeah, yeah driving in runs that they put him
in the four hole and he stays.

Speaker 6 (01:53:08):
There they will.

Speaker 5 (01:53:09):
Not NOW i know all two vas, bat But i'm
talking about as a, slugger as a guy who can
drive in runs. Clutch we know What jordan's. ABOUT i
actually think in the big scheme of, Things Christian walker
may be an underrated get Across Major league. Base, well
we know how important it was here because he needed
to answer that question in first. Base where you get

(01:53:29):
a guy you plug. In as much AS i Respect,
singleton he's not an everyday. GUY i don't, believe AND
i Think Christian walker. Is AND i got a call
from a media buddy of mine After Christian Walker walker signed,
here so they, said you're getting somebody that's not only
a great, guy but a great teammate and a great.
Player they loved, him and he's In scott's he lives In,
arizona and SO i, said, yeah from watching him gather,

(01:53:53):
that BUT i always like to know the extra and
they did nothing but rave about, Him so it will
not surprise me if he's a guy say, okay this
was not only the right, get but solidified this position
for the next you, know three years or what have.
YOU i actually think that here we knew how big it.
WAS i think across, BASEBALL i feel like this Is

(01:54:13):
Joe mixon style for. Me, oh where he comes in
and people, like well does He i'm not saying they
don't say If walker has anything?

Speaker 1 (01:54:21):
LEFT i.

Speaker 6 (01:54:21):
DON'T i don't mean. That but When Joe mixon came,
here what are we.

Speaker 5 (01:54:23):
GETTING i FELT i said it on this show THAT
i thought he'd be one of the top five gets
in football with his impact and how much how necessary
it was to have him here because that position needed.
It pierce a good, player but the zone scheme was
not for him, Yet he's better as a backup and
special teams guy here And mixon would be good and
tough and bring a sense of toughness to this. Team

(01:54:44):
AND i feel, ONE i one percent believed that three
running backs were as impactful as anybody in the league last, Year, Mixon,
barkley And henry on their new, teams AND i Believe
mixon is in that team pitcher when it comes for different,
reasons considering the necess that you had to have at first,
base how long you've been waiting on, it and the

(01:55:05):
guy's reputation from the. Past, YEAH i think that impact
of like, damn What arizona's loss is The astros. GAME
i think it's a big get and.

Speaker 4 (01:55:14):
It's ALSO i, mean What mixing brought to The texans
locker room is a lot of what people believe That
walker can bring to The astros. Clubhouse because what do
we continue to hear about with the, astros especially when
things are.

Speaker 6 (01:55:25):
Bad who are the leaders in?

Speaker 4 (01:55:26):
There who are the guys that are counting ON i
know That Joe spotta has told us That Jeremy pania
is that. Guy And walker has even to his own, admission,
Said i'm not a, vocal raw raw.

Speaker 6 (01:55:36):
GUY i just try to do it with the WAY i.
Go have to to be a. Leader it does not about.
Talk it's about, show and that's what he tries to.

Speaker 7 (01:55:42):
Do.

Speaker 4 (01:55:42):
Yeah, SO i mean that's that's another edition that you
can make to this team that can give you a
chance to win The west and hopefully get further than
Wild Card week well next.

Speaker 5 (01:55:51):
Year one year into his addition to this, team who
was the spokesperson in the locker room for The?

Speaker 6 (01:55:57):
Texans? Oh it Was Joe. Mixon that's exactly man was
to go to.

Speaker 5 (01:55:59):
Go whether it's Spokesp LIKE i, said their leaders come
in all different ways either, way whether it's. Talking if
you're going to talk, it you got to get out
in front of it and show. It if you're not a,
talker you got to show it and let everybody else
talk that that's our. Guy and if you're a great,
leader you don't need to tell anybody that people will
say it for. You his production is going to be
good here if he's. Healthy Christian walker is going to

(01:56:20):
be a great get for this organize.

Speaker 4 (01:56:22):
Well and it's ALSO i mean with the on field,
play you need to have production at first base, offensively
but it's three straight gold gloves over there at first,
base AND i Mean joe's body even saying, goes we
feel like the best defensive first basement in the game right.
Now so you get both of those. Things you haven't
had either of those things since a guy wore number
ten over there and had funny.

Speaker 5 (01:56:41):
Hair i'm expecting good things from the corner infielders this,
YEAR i really, am AND i think both of them
and if you Add Cam smith in a corner outfield,
position you're going to sit there and, say, okay well
we Got Christian. Walker you, Know wiznsky obviously is. One
but with With parades And walker for different reas and
how you got them, HERE i think you're going to

(01:57:02):
say that the off season moves by The astros.

Speaker 6 (01:57:04):
Were were an important.

Speaker 5 (01:57:07):
Part if they win this, division those names are going
to come up well and windows are always talked. About
that's what you hope that you can get as, well
is that you hope that this is what prolongs The
astros being a postseason, team winning THE Ao west and
going further into the postseason as they had done for,
years not named last season's exactly, right, Buddy so all,

(01:57:27):
RIGHT i know That John andy al you guys want
to talk Some, astros so we will do that with,
you and also to a decision THAT i believe needs
to already be made in the minds of the front
office over there at Dyk In. Park we will discuss
that here as we start off the nine o'clock hour
on The Sean Salisbury Show Sports talk seven Ninety men's T. Clinic,

(01:57:49):

wants to get in on Some. Astros, john what's going?

Speaker 13 (02:01:08):
On hey, man you guys got a good show going
on this.

Speaker 6 (02:01:13):
Morning let ME i got a.

Speaker 13 (02:01:15):
COUPLE i got a couple of THINGS i want to
put out. There, Okay, now the picking Of Danny, brown
That hater. Contract we're gonna have to keep our eyes
On hated this year because nobody can tell me That
hater was to shut down close the last. Season in,
fact he was fifty to. Fifty Then i'm trying to
remember if he got blowed up in The detart. Series
his best year may have been In. Milwaukee milwaukee may

(02:01:38):
may have been right because they had trouble In San diego.
Too but THIS i want to talk About Cam. SMITH
i hear people call me and they want to rush
him up. Here let me tell you the difference between
the screen ball and regular. Season these pictures are working on.

Speaker 1 (02:01:53):
Things you, Know Cam.

Speaker 13 (02:01:55):
SMITH i think he was drafted last. SEASON i believe.
So he hasn't had that much, season and we all
want him to come up. Here but sometimes you can
bring a guy up too, soon and and sometimes some
guys are, fragile get the striking out so much and
lose their confidence when they come up here and they
see some real pitching and they never gain their. Confidence,

(02:02:19):
fact if they around in them feel like you, know
they want to let it send him back down for
a little while most, season and there's nothing wrong with.
That if he's a great hitter and all, that he'll
this is what they'll want to. Do they gonna want
to see if he can make them bring him back up.
Here so we don't have to be wrestling that. Deal
but think about, This john And. Dan if he does

(02:02:43):
come back up, here even if he does start and
he's that great a, here.

Speaker 1 (02:02:47):
They're a good.

Speaker 13 (02:02:47):
Player where you're gonna put?

Speaker 6 (02:02:49):
Him, yes now you have to go ahead now that
now you?

Speaker 13 (02:02:55):
Okay now you have trouble with positioning because you Got
paridis on third bait to get him my bar on first.
Base so where you're gonna put him in THE i,
field then you got to move out two. Bay you
might end up moving at two bay back to second.

Speaker 5 (02:03:08):
Base so they put him in right they'd put him
in right. Field that's where the plan would. Be right,
now if they thought that McCormick wasn't, producing or what
if they thought Cam smith was? Better let me ask you.
This you talk about for a fragile. Personalities IF i
have a guy that comes up here as a grown
ass man and struggles and has to be sent down

(02:03:30):
to minor, leagues and he loses his confidence and goes
into hell in a handbasket and becomes a mush personality
because he can't handle pressure.

Speaker 6 (02:03:38):
And he's not.

Speaker 5 (02:03:39):
Good, NOW i don't think this kid's, that but if it,
happened you think he's gonna be any?

Speaker 6 (02:03:43):
Good five years from.

Speaker 5 (02:03:44):
Now, anyway if he held him, back so to, ME
i want to find out sooner how mentally tough a guy,
is because if he wilts, now he's wilton. LATER i assure,
you being around in locker rooms my entire life and
in professional, sports a guy who, COULD a guy who
got kicked in the teeth as a rookie and handled
it usually ended up lasting in the league a long.

(02:04:05):
TIME a guy who got kicked in the teeth as
a veteran and handled it stayed in the league a long.
TIME a guy who wilt it early wilt s. Late
i'm just telling you THAT'S, dna. Buddy, listen no offence
To David. Carr if you hit him fifteen times or
five hundred, times he was never going to be.

Speaker 6 (02:04:24):
A hall Of fame.

Speaker 5 (02:04:24):
Quarterback we saw that. Now, Listen playing on your ass
doesn't give you much. Chance but if it was because
confidence AND i, Had.

Speaker 7 (02:04:32):
Ooh i'm.

Speaker 5 (02:04:33):
Worried AM i worried That Jaden daniels is going to
have a fragile. Personality if he has a fragile personality
as a rookie and he can't throw the ball and
struggled last year Or stroud, HERE i got news for.
You he was never going to be the guy for fifteen.
Years so the last Thing i'm worried ABOUT i need to.
Know so what happens if you keep him in the

(02:04:54):
minor leagues and he's going good and comes up here
and struggles three years from, now all of a, sudden
he's going to recover quicker because he's he's mentally.

Speaker 6 (02:05:01):
TOUGHER i THINK. DNA i think it's a part OF.

Speaker 5 (02:05:04):
Dna you're either mentally tough and you're you can handle
failure and, Success so you're NOT i get what you're talking.
About to get, it it's it's they're working on stuff
in the minor, Leagues but where in the outfield tells
you outside of al Tuo veay's bat that that Cam
smith got beat out and dominated by.

Speaker 6 (02:05:22):
Somebody bring ball is different from.

Speaker 5 (02:05:27):
Him i'm well, aware we, Said i'm well aware of.

Speaker 6 (02:05:30):
That i'm well aware of.

Speaker 13 (02:05:31):
That well let me, say let me say, this this
is why they have what they call it the DOUBLE
a and the TRIPLE a to slowly bring a guy,
up let him move itself. Up i'm not saying if
they Start Cam smith that's just fine and And i'm like,
you you, know it's hard to believe sometime that some
people can lose their confidence like.

Speaker 6 (02:05:51):
That but none of us are the.

Speaker 1 (02:05:52):
Same we are all, different you.

Speaker 6 (02:05:54):
Know so, hey, man that's ALL i.

Speaker 1 (02:05:56):
Remained that's ALL i have to.

Speaker 5 (02:05:57):
Say john appreciate, it, man, Right AND i Love john's
passionate About but he answered the question there for me
on the other, side meaning he answered the question we're
all different.

Speaker 6 (02:06:11):
About.

Speaker 5 (02:06:11):
Confidence, yeah doesn't that say the same thing the other?
Way you can be different and you don't need the
minor leagues as long as somebody else SEE i THINK
I i THINK i think you lean on the fact
That i'm judging from this that you think that he
needs to go, down that you're you're that you need
he needs more. Seasoning are you afraid that he'd fail up? Here,

(02:06:32):
no it has, Nothing, no it has nothing to do with.

Speaker 4 (02:06:34):
THAT i just look at it as you need to
be able to maximize this roster as much as. Possible
and WHILE i understand what he can bring you from
a productive production, STANDPOINT i just know that they're looking
at guys that have minor league options and guys that.
Don't he's one of them that dogs me so.

Speaker 6 (02:06:53):
BAD i understand.

Speaker 4 (02:06:54):
That but when you get into a numbers, game that's
what comes into, play because then it's all, right at
least with the guys that don't have. OPTIONS i want
to know if he's going to click with my, guys
because if he, doesn't then the decision's.

Speaker 6 (02:07:05):
Made, fine we can wipe our hands with.

Speaker 4 (02:07:06):
It but when it comes to this where you, say
what's the, RUSH i think is kind of what you
settle on is send him. Down AND i understand it's
kind of going to be busy work for him at
least because, you at least we believe that he's ready
to go at this level and.

Speaker 7 (02:07:21):
He may not.

Speaker 4 (02:07:22):
Be and he left right it may not. Be and
that's how you find that out is you send him.
Down and it's also TOO i mean you talked about
it of the demotion part of. IT i, mean how
does he handle. THAT i don't think that he has
any designs of you, know when he was coming in
the camp this year that he was making this, team
maybe in his, mind.

Speaker 6 (02:07:38):
Oh, sure he.

Speaker 5 (02:07:39):
Didn't the way he's playing looks like he's going to
prove a, point and that they said competition and he
competed and look what he's done at, least.

Speaker 6 (02:07:44):
If nothing, else create the. Conversation and he's done.

Speaker 7 (02:07:46):
That.

Speaker 5 (02:07:47):
NOW i hope that his presence even in the minor Leagues,
Mikes Jake myers and and Uh chas McCormick and any
other veteran who's in the outfit elevate their. Game, listen
if you give me The chads McCormick i saw two years,
Ago Cam, smith While i'd love him on the, roster
should not be starting in right.

Speaker 4 (02:08:07):
Field it Made joe aspot his words even more loud
now of when he talked With matt And ross of,
saying you, know With chad's the leash is not as
long this year With, Jake, HEY i need more out
of you because WHEN i get to the seventh eighth,
INNING i can't keep pulling you out of games BECAUSE
i can't count on you in their Bat, okay here's
so it's made those it's made those words even. Louder,

(02:08:28):
okay here's another. Thing does it go back?

Speaker 6 (02:08:30):
To and you, KNOW i loved our conversation With joe's
first TIME i got to sit down with him a.

Speaker 5 (02:08:33):
Person loved. It AND i love my conversations weekly With.
DANA i, do AND i. SEE i put a lot
of respect in trust In. DANE i think he's done
a good job since he's been. HERE a lot of
things that, happen not being able to Keep bregman's not
just On. Dana we know What Kyle. Tucker that's big
money and that's where the big boss comes. In BUT
i can tell you this that we were told it

(02:08:53):
was a. Competition did Cam smith get beat out in the,
CASE i, FORGET i.

Speaker 6 (02:08:59):
Don't don't put it age on.

Speaker 5 (02:09:00):
Him don't put how long they've been in the, league
Because i'll tell you, what being in the league a
long time doesn't entitle.

Speaker 4 (02:09:05):
You to crap stract. Competition, no he has. Not, okay
if it's coming down to that straight.

Speaker 5 (02:09:11):
Competition forget their, age the jersey, number how many years
he's been in what they're Making i'm talking. About you
throw them all out. There has he been beat out
saying what you're saying is what you, said guys have minor,
league you've got ability to go down and doesn't in
those who do and. Don't the fifteen game protection situation for,

(02:09:32):
him all those the non baseball stuff makes. Sense, yeah,
Okay and the EXPERIENCE i ain't worried one bit about his.
Fragility great, players the ones that are built, different are
just built. Different and if he, isn't then you'll know
in five years you're looking for another. Guy that's just. It,
so BUT i don't anticipate, that SO i look at it.
Different i've seen Quarterbacks, Wilton i've seen him. Not i've
seen defensive Ends, Wilt i've seen him. Not if you're mentally,

(02:09:54):
tough you're mentally. Tough if you're, not then success and,
failure you're gonna you're gonna be on a, doubt you're
gonna be up in, down and you're going to be
so up and down you're never going to be able
to maintain. Consistency but, okay so he didn't get beat.
Out so basically what we're saying is it was just.
Talk it was the numbers. Game that's all it. Was
it was the numbers game that Got AND i hope

(02:10:14):
That chaz does it And i'll, say, great then we got.
Time BUT i when guys are built, different if you
leave it, Open i'm just, this let me see what you,
got and if you're the best, player you'll play the
bottom line is they're going at it for all these
reasons mixed in the main. One if, listen if all
of them had no moves left to be able to

(02:10:35):
go down, Right, yeah no options, Left Cam, smith you're
starting right.

Speaker 4 (02:10:39):
Fielder competition's, king AND i mean he's proven his point
and he's given himself every. Opportunity speaking of The, astros
all the exciting things both on the field and even
in the. Community coming up this, week we're going to
talk that With vice president Of Marketing Jason wooden is
going to join us next year in studio On The
Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 1 (02:10:58):
Show The.

Speaker 7 (02:11:01):
Jean Salisbury show.

Speaker 6 (02:11:03):
Continues appreciate the.

Speaker 4 (02:11:06):
TIME i, mean obviously we're excited about Next, thursday but
you guys are excited about Next thursday for another reason,
too and it's not on the baseball, field that's.

Speaker 18 (02:11:15):
Correct and first, off thank you guys for having. Me
this is always fantastic coming in and talking to you.
Guys we like to do a lot of things around
the city Of, houston and we do. This we have
the golf going. On Houston open starts On, monday with
the actual first round play On, thursday and that is
also opening day for The, Astros so there's a lot

(02:11:38):
of things for fans in the city Of houston to
be able to come in and get excited about for Next.

Speaker 5 (02:11:42):
Well you look like you've been conditioning in shape for
a long, time and you, must Because i'm sitting here
trying to figure out it's got to be pain enough
to get ready for opening day in a full baseball.
Season and you AND i both know. This as to, You,
dan preparing for a golf tournament that comes to town
once a year is. Nuts how in the world are
you doing, both? Honestly and to make them? Both you,

(02:12:05):
know the guys take care of it on the field
in the golf, course but to get everything in place
so people like us aren't complaining that it's not winning
or it's not working.

Speaker 6 (02:12:12):
Out how in the world are you being able to
manage both of? THESE i will tell you the golf
is a twelve Month that's What i'm.

Speaker 18 (02:12:19):
Saying one tournament takes that long one hundred percent for
you to put on a full fledged production for a.
Week it is a twelve month. Process so there is
a Dedicated Astros Golf foundation staff that is there that's
working on that twenty four hours a day for twelve.

Speaker 6 (02:12:35):
Months what we have in very, few if.

Speaker 18 (02:12:39):
Any other tournaments are able to do this where they
have the power of a professional organization behind. Them so
what they are able to do is leverage the astros
for the marketing, department THE pr and.

Speaker 6 (02:12:50):
Communications the tickets are so kind of a double dip
to use both right dred, percent so you're able to do.

Speaker 18 (02:12:54):
That while we may not do it one hundred percent
of the, time the value we're able to provide for
the portion of the year that we are is.

Speaker 6 (02:13:02):
Significant so that's how we go about building what we
do and doing.

Speaker 5 (02:13:06):
BOTH i Know scheffler's got a bone to pick because
he had the tournament and got to take it away
from the lads got beat, Right but With scheffler AND
i Think rory DID i just see ry so top
players because this is obviously the destination about people want
to come here and that golf course for a public,
course is. Phenomenal, Absolutely so with, that how much hand
do you or the people who DO i know agents

(02:13:27):
and all the people that come into. Play is it
hard to convince guys to come here Like scheffler And
Macro and if people throwing Like rory's, coming we get.
Him he's won twice already in two big events this.
Year so how difficult is? It or are you hanging
on a thread wondering are they going to stop In houston?
Again or is it pretty simple because It's houston and
the golf.

Speaker 18 (02:13:44):
COURSE i would love to say it's simple and you're
dealing with, Pros but WHAT i will tell you is
where we found our place and we've finally been able
to get back to the. Spring this would be our
second year in the Spring man two weeks before The masters.
Again so having that little sweet, spot it's interesting you
will have players that want to go and, play keep

(02:14:05):
that tune, up keep. Going consistency right.

Speaker 5 (02:14:08):
Say The master's probably helps too because they got that
in their vision, too, right, correct.

Speaker 18 (02:14:12):
And so they're really kind of honing their schedule right before.
That so you're kind of fifty to. Fifty the guys
that want to play and keep that, consistency you can
still grab them because it's, like all, right we're gonna
we're right there two weeks, before and there are guys
that just want to take a week off right. Before
they may get to augusta, early so we're, right they
don't want to take two weeks off so we're right.

Speaker 5 (02:14:33):
There, yeah and then The valero opens next, week so That's.
Lario now we'll take that off and get To. Augusta,
Correct so you're right. There this is like it's almost, perfect,
right and you know you're gonna get pretty.

Speaker 6 (02:14:42):
Good weather here as. Well IT'S i mean Marching, inden,
right you.

Speaker 1 (02:14:47):
Do it is a.

Speaker 18 (02:14:48):
Coin BUT i will tell you right, now if we
can have this all next, week happily take that.

Speaker 4 (02:14:54):
Absolutely you guys do a great job THAT i was gonna.
Say it's going to be a pretty nice weather to
be able to walk the. Course tchl You open is
where you can find tcchluopen dot com is where you
can Find take us to this event, Again Jason, Wooden
vice president Of, Marketing join us for the, astros join
us here in, studio AND i mean kind of the
piggyback off What sean was just talking about because grew

(02:15:16):
up here in the. CITY i grew up going to
watch this tournament when it was at The, woodlands when
it was an. Humble how beneficial is not only for
the people who are going to go out there and
watch these guys, play but then also getting the players
to commit where you're right in the middle of the.
CITY i, mean you can't get much closer to downtown
than where you guys are playing one.

Speaker 18 (02:15:36):
Hundred percent being actually in the heart of the city
in a place that people can go and they. ENJOY i,
mean just the foot traffic Around memorial is consistent year,
round and being able to have it backwards conducive for
everybody to kind of jump, in come, in be able
to drive in from all the, suburbs and then the

(02:15:56):
accessibility that we have around, there it's it's. Great and
then to be a municipal golf course that is basically
people can after this go and play A pga level
golf course for probably just around fifty.

Speaker 6 (02:16:10):
Bucks that happened To Torrey. Pines it's the.

Speaker 5 (02:16:12):
Same he's SAY i can't, play and you go out
there and plenty you, SAY i get to play the,
course the big dues and real quick. DOWN i know
you have a follow up with. That kudos to the
maintenance crew when you just mentioned as a municipal. Course
no disrespect to the non, pros but we all go
out there and see they don't fix. Divots they'd say
if it's not, there because it's, like, oh somebody else
will do, it and to get this golf course ready

(02:16:32):
and have it look at it and thedn't have the
rave reviews about.

Speaker 6 (02:16:35):
It it's.

Speaker 5 (02:16:36):
Fini it's a private, course it really. Is it's private
with the way they get this man of you, know.
Manicured so kudos to those guys because that cannot be
an easy task with some of this weather as.

Speaker 6 (02:16:47):
Well one hundred percent is That's Parker. Henry he's over.
There he is killing the phenomenal and setting this thing.

Speaker 18 (02:16:53):
Up but being able to know that you still have
to have the rounds that continually go through there for
The city Of houston. Residence, yeah and then still be
able to, say, okay we have to prep this thing
FOR pga level.

Speaker 6 (02:17:05):
Golf it is remarkable what they were able to pull.

Speaker 4 (02:17:09):
Off and it's a hard job. TOO i MEAN i
remember watching the documentary a few years ago before THE Pga.
CHAMPIONSHIP i think it was at Wing foot and you, know, oh,
hey being a, greenskeeper that's got to be. Fun these
guys are getting out there at like four, am you,
know hooking up, hoses doing all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 6 (02:17:23):
Too, yeah and of course to.

Speaker 5 (02:17:24):
A rain delay and they say nobody could play there
for a month and a half and they're playing an
hour later and you're, like did it? Rain it's it's
the maintenance. Crew they really are the golden childs of
how you get these things. Ready it's, phenomenal no doubt
about you guys marketing, plans but you guys kill.

Speaker 2 (02:17:39):
It.

Speaker 6 (02:17:39):
Man it's, great very very much.

Speaker 4 (02:17:42):
Again Jason, wooden vice president of marketing for The, astros
join us here At Taka Texas Children's Houston open And Jim,
crane the, OWNER i, mean we've, known you know how
much he loves the game of. Golf you, know just
you know what it means to him and how much he.
Plays but you know how influential is he with you,
know As sean was talking, about you get guys Like Scotti,

(02:18:04):
scheffler you get guys Like rory. McElroy he's there in the.
AREA a lot of these guys live In jupiter Or
West Palm beach around. THERE i, mean you know how
much of those relationships come in where he goes to
him and, says, hey you want to come To houston and?
Play they, say, yeah, Absolutely i'll be there. Now jim
being an avid golfer, himself and scratch golfer at.

Speaker 18 (02:18:23):
That so that sucks to be good EVERYTHING i was
gonna say it is pretty. Incredible some people are, blessed
they absolutely. Are but being able to have not only
THE i mean he has The floridian down In florida
And West, palm so you do have a lot of
those pros that actually go down there and. Play so
there are relationships that are. Built, now, granted that's never
going to guarantee a pro to be, like oh, Great

(02:18:46):
i'll come To. Houston because of, that they have their own,
schedules they're. Professionals But jim being able to have those
relationships and being able to know, that, hey we've taken
the time intention and this is the care THAT i
take with The Floridian, florida that's the same level of
care and attention we're going to do for this golf.

Speaker 6 (02:19:03):
Tournament it's attractive to the.

Speaker 5 (02:19:05):
Prom, yeah the reputation proceeds as that where they do reputation,
there they SAY i know What i'm getting when he's,
involved absolutely no. Doubt All, right switched to a little
bit of baseball and good, Luck i'm gonna BE i
can't wait to see, him so we can. TALK i
have to keep you ear talk till twelve and caught talking,
golf switch to The, astros the. SWAG i know the
introduction yesterday at the at The dyke And. Park so

(02:19:26):
what goes into the new stuff and the design and?
Everything AND i imagine you're pretty excited about the new
stuff that's being out.

Speaker 18 (02:19:31):
THERE i couldn't be happier about the new Is this
Is City connect two point zero for, us, Right so
obviously everybody remembers version, one which Was Space.

Speaker 6 (02:19:39):
City it is a three year program With.

Speaker 18 (02:19:42):
Nike this is our version two of, it and so
us being able to go this is again probably a
year and a half potentially even two year process that
we go through to kind of figure out what's the
story we want to tell, again how the, design we
go through what can we can not, do going through
the proofing of, it and then finally developing what that

(02:20:04):
uniform will ultimately look, like and then getting it and
producing it and going through the content shoots with all
of our players and surprising them down in spring training
with the actual new jersey that they get.

Speaker 6 (02:20:15):
To and they're like a kid At christmas WHEN i see,
it aren't They they're like that ten years.

Speaker 9 (02:20:18):
Old.

Speaker 6 (02:20:19):
Again it is A it is a really fun thing
to see guys come in and just be, like oh my,
god this is, it and then YOU i need twenty of.

Speaker 18 (02:20:26):
Those you go in and you say here's the new,
jersey and at first glance they they usually are, like
oh my, god this is. Amazing and then once you
start to dive into some of the detail and some
of the nuances that we put into that, design it
takes it about three or four levels deep and they
have way more appreciation to, it not just looking, cool
but they're, Like, wow this actually means.

Speaker 5 (02:20:47):
Something with all the work you put in and everything
here in the, grind what's the best part of your job.

Speaker 1 (02:20:53):
Right?

Speaker 5 (02:20:53):
Now how do we go for opening in a professional baseball?
Golf but what is when you wake? Up and what's
the best what of your?

Speaker 18 (02:21:00):
GIG i would say doing things like, This i've grown
up like the creativity part of, it one undred. Percent
i've been here since elementary, school SO i have a
lot of passion behind uh this team in, general and
being able to tell the stories like, this the the
nuances of our, organization what that. Means the city Of,
houston the people that live, here being able to have

(02:21:21):
some level of part in designing this or or even
being able to help tell.

Speaker 6 (02:21:26):
This story is a really really cool thing to be
al to.

Speaker 5 (02:21:30):
Do and you grow up, here matter what kind of
a dream come true for, you you see, it you do,
it and here you are doing what you want to
do for your.

Speaker 6 (02:21:37):
Hometown very very. Lucky that's, Great that's awesome.

Speaker 4 (02:21:40):
Again Jason wooden from The Astros vice. Series this, YEAR
i was going to say guarantee that.

Speaker 18 (02:21:46):
One my, hope AND i can never guarantee. Anything our
hope is let's let's go and have a great. Season
we're going to try for the division, first get us
into the the.

Speaker 6 (02:21:56):
Postseason see what.

Speaker 4 (02:21:57):
Happens love it, Again, jason congrats on the the New threads.
Launch AND i MEAN i was over there AT diyk
In park earlier yesterday and the store was. Packed orbit
was in, there the vibes were, high it was looking.
Good and you, know before we get you out the door,
HERE i, mean we're excited about opening day On, thursday
the weekend, series but you guys are also in a

(02:22:17):
very good sweet spot here With Texts Children's houston. Open
you don't get very Many sunday off days in the
major league. Season so when you guys found out the
schedule lined up like, this how excited were you?

Speaker 18 (02:22:27):
All there were a few high fives that we had
going around the, office for, sure but being able to
Have Opening, day it does seem a little odd that
you have a kind of break that early in the,
season but what they do and baseball, smart but you
have a lot of teams playing on that, day a
lot of northern, teams so there may be some potential

(02:22:49):
snow outs definitely not happening, here but they want that,
flexibility so they try and build in a day or.
So with, us it was let's Go, Thursday, Friday, saturday
and we have The sunday off before we come back
in and have a three game series right after, that.

Speaker 5 (02:23:05):
No final round of golf and hopefully coming down to
the final, grouping and let's get after.

Speaker 6 (02:23:10):
It that's a weekend right there To Memorial. Park there you.

Speaker 4 (02:23:13):
Go and then by the, way That monday night is
the first game for The City connect two point zero
to be showcased on the, field our first.

Speaker 6 (02:23:20):
Wear what a hell of a sports weekend we got
coming up next. Week that's gonna be. Awesome that's gonna
be awesome.

Speaker 4 (02:23:25):
Again if you want to head out to a memorial
park in check out The Texas Children's Houston open tc
chouopen dot. Com t c h ouopen Dot com is
where you can find tickets and more information for the.
Event Jason wooden, again Vice president Of marketing from The. Astros,
jason really appreciate the time. Today, no thank you guys
for having awesome, Awesome, YEAH i, mean As, jason you,

(02:23:47):
know just mentioned with. Us the vibes are high around The.
Astros as we are less than a week from opening.
Day we'll continue The astros conversation coming up next al
and you see you guys right there as we will
roll along here on The Seans Allsbury Show Sports talk
seven Ninety but The Seawan Salisbury show continued and it's

(02:24:09):
going to stick around On monday And. Tuesday should be
ready for opening. Day brian McTaggart throwing out that last
bit of information On twitter earlier this. Morning good stuff
With jason wood and really enjoyed being able to.

Speaker 6 (02:24:23):
TALK i, mean oh and.

Speaker 4 (02:24:25):
Fantastic and you know the other thing is too is
you know for WHAT i brought up at the end
there that you get opening day On, thursday that's the
opening round of The Texas Children's Houston. Open Then, saturday
the series against The mets is, over so final Round,
sunday you can, say beautiful day out head on over

(02:24:46):
To Memorial. Park AND i can't stress that enough To
sean WHAT i was talking. About WHERE i grew, up
you go watch The Houston open and out at The,
woodlands you had to go park, somewhere get on a,
bus get over. There you're in a, PARK i, mean
plenty of area to be able to move around. There
go watch some good, golf and then you can take
a walk Around memorial. Too if there you go and
then get right back in your, car head back home

(02:25:08):
and you're home in no. TIME i, mean that's that's
the thing THAT i think is the most awesome part
about The Texas CHILDREN'S u snop and being played At Memorial.

Speaker 5 (02:25:17):
Park i'm thinking about purchasing one of those tickets in
one of those rowdy.

Speaker 6 (02:25:20):
Suites, Man, OKAY i am, YEAH i Thinking i've never done.

Speaker 2 (02:25:24):
That.

Speaker 6 (02:25:25):
Here phoenix opens the regular occurrence for, me But i've
never done.

Speaker 4 (02:25:29):
It you, know the sixteenth holl future brother in law
got to do it one year AND i was, like,
dude tell me.

Speaker 6 (02:25:33):
Stories it's, Awesome LIKE i want to.

Speaker 5 (02:25:35):
Know it's, Awesome So i'm thinking about doing that so
you can just kind of be there and set and
watch them in one hole and the rest of you,
KNOW i like to walk, around but it's so CRAD
i just kind of want to position myself and, GO
i can't wait. That i'll re emphasize and how you,
know getting ready for. It he's exactly, right and he
knows a year to prepare for one golf, event but

(02:25:57):
inst we make it so not like it's just all
the people come in and just. Play to get the
golf course. Ready on a public, course it's tough enough
on a private course to have people that are paying
money on their own course to fix their own damn.
DIVOT i walk by it And i'm FASCINATEING i, say
this is. Trash this is your golf. Course and yet
to have a public course with spikes and constantly people

(02:26:19):
taking divots the size Of kuwait.

Speaker 6 (02:26:22):
And not fixing.

Speaker 5 (02:26:23):
Them and then to have the grounds keepers the respect
you have for him after you've played a course and see,
it and when this thing's done a month and a
half from. Now the public out there playing are two
weeks from, now a week and a half from, now
the course will still be in pristine. Shape it's just
it's a great weekend Opening soto coming to. Town you
get The astros and the opening part of, baseball and
then you get to drive a few minutes and have

(02:26:44):
yourself ready to go for one of the better golf
tournaments on tour at a public. Course, listen it's rare
that you get the public course where you get a
top notch event at a great golf course that you
can pay fifty bucks for to play in a week
and a. Half go out there and enjoy. It and
they done a great job of preparing for this and
both AND i can't wait till next. Weekend it's a
great weekend of sports for.

Speaker 4 (02:27:05):
Us there's nothing like trying to line up a putt
and then you look in front of you and, oh
somebody didn't fix their ballmark. Here let me get my
fork out and let me fix that really. Quick it's
it's it's. Irritating, YEAH i know it sounds like. SNOP
i don't mean it's. Snobbish it's called. Respect right the
games and all you're doing is making the job of
these guys. Tougher even treat the public course like it's

(02:27:25):
in your, backyard even at private.

Speaker 5 (02:27:27):
Course to some of these, People i'm, like you, know
what's shame on you for not making the maintenance cruise
job a little. Easier but this is going to look
like it's had a dome over it and protecting it
for this golf. Tournament that's how good these guys are
that get it, ready and the guys that play in
it are pretty freaking good. Too music or no music
on the, course where do you? GO i like, MUSIC
i get the you, know stick it up there and.

(02:27:49):
Listen it DOESN'T i played, football, dude we don't have
Sh people are yelling and cussanacci and getting hit in the.
Mouth a matter of, Fact i'm more comfortable when people
talk than when they.

Speaker 6 (02:27:58):
Don't When i'm playing. Golf that's. Silence When i'm in my.
Backswing doesn't play with. ME i don't. Care there you.

Speaker 4 (02:28:04):
Go so The Texas Chiltern's Houston Open again t c
h Ou open Dot com is where you can find, tickets,
information everything you want before heading out To Memorial park next.
Weekend all, right coming up next do you want to
get into a couple more astros.

Speaker 6 (02:28:19):
Notes we'll do.

Speaker 4 (02:28:20):
That also dive into some of THE ncaa Tournament, Andy
al see you guys right, there will squeeze you. In
as we continue here on The Sean Salisbury Show Sports
talk seven, ninety we want to.

Speaker 3 (02:28:31):
Wait Sean salisbury continues on seven.

Speaker 6 (02:28:35):
Ninety al on The southwest South side wants to wag In,
al what's going?

Speaker 19 (02:28:40):
On, hey what's going?

Speaker 2 (02:28:41):
On?

Speaker 19 (02:28:42):
Dan what's going?

Speaker 9 (02:28:42):
On?

Speaker 20 (02:28:42):
Sean good weekend and y'all have a grave and be. Safe, Oh,
SEAN i got a couple of points. Here let me
say this in put this stuff to. Bed first of,
all shout out To Mark. Cools, dan you mentioned earlier
about its little words. You whether they win by one
or one, HUNDRED i don't THINK anzaca will be able
to mess this intensity that that defense bring because let

(02:29:06):
me show you. SOMETHING i don't think they experienced, this
and with the experience we had without being healthy last,
year we probably would have went all. AWAY i just
think that they're gonna make one more. Play they're gonna
be dialed in like no other teams THAN zaga have ever.
Seen now dealing with this Nca March, madags go. Coops
let me put this to Bed sean about. This this
is my, opinion and you know it don't mean nothing

(02:29:29):
but playing baseball at a high level in high, school
shine out for varsity in ninth. GRADE i was telling,
You sean a while, back you haven't experienced in this
sports world because any way to get the pros you
have to go through, college and then it depends on
how you was in high school and even playing out
of high school at a park that was almost semi.
Pro let me say this about two v in this

(02:29:49):
left field And, sean just the nuance of. It you,
know some people argued back when we came, up sean
shortstop was the highest, spot and then field somewhat. Ugly
third base wars and usually when you're playing, ball learning
to come up as a, youth you know you want
to put a tall guy on first, case don't get

(02:30:10):
tall of reach and he's able to reach.

Speaker 19 (02:30:11):
It AND i look at position and Evaluating Danny brown
was On earth you had to call after.

Speaker 20 (02:30:16):
That just because you have success doesn't mean you're a successful. Evaluation,
yeah you can win, one maybe, two but the great
ones continue and be consistency like The astros. Have, Now
i'm gonna say this to say this don't mean you
can't stay a step back with dealing with. EVALUATION i
Love dusty a. LOT i wish he was still, here
but that's neither here nor, There. Sean my opinion is,

(02:30:39):
This our TWO a is a proven second. Basement And
i'm not just talking about. Talent i'm talking about when
you playing these, games your center can't be five.

Speaker 19 (02:30:49):
Six you, know it's just not.

Speaker 20 (02:30:52):
Logical IN, nba, oh our two heads second Basement hall Of,
famer hands.

Speaker 19 (02:30:56):
Down that's kind of like Moving Joe, Morgan Cincinnati. Ridge
y'all that don't know who that. Is he as my
last name in left.

Speaker 20 (02:31:03):
Field when we talk about left, field left field is
probably the hardest our field position to play because you
gotta have. What you gotta have a strong. On WHEN
i hit that ball deep, left you gotta have a
strong on whether it's relay or senate third or send it.
Home nothing is taken away from our TWO. A people
getting rided up thinking that this should be a goal

(02:31:25):
because he's at TWO.

Speaker 6 (02:31:25):
A it's not like.

Speaker 19 (02:31:26):
That it's called positioning. Evaluation.

Speaker 20 (02:31:30):
Shun you kind of touched him when you said he's
not gonna win The Golden. Glove that's stross by. Consistency
we chat battance For World, series Not Texas rangers or
not these other divisions we have for just being. Baseball
we playing for. CHAMPIONSHIPS i think it's a bad. Look
he's not a left. Fielder you can't teach an old
dog new. Tricks he's.

Speaker 19 (02:31:50):
Not that's not to Say.

Speaker 20 (02:31:51):
Twove is not a baseball, players but when you move
a guy such as Our toove a short stop from
feno to left, Field i'm talking about, physicality.

Speaker 19 (02:32:01):
Size weight.

Speaker 20 (02:32:02):
Wise that's not going in the season with a good.
Look i'm just, saying looking at the bottom to the, top.

Speaker 19 (02:32:09):
He's not left.

Speaker 20 (02:32:10):
Field people have to realize we left field is a bad. Position,
man And, SEAN i listened up to you AND i hang.
Up at least he take y'all have a great, weekend.

Speaker 6 (02:32:17):
All, RIGHT i appreciate. It my first Is. ALAN i you,
KNOW i Love. Al i'm so glad he's, back and
uh we have him.

Speaker 5 (02:32:26):
On in my, opinion right fields a much more difficult
place the place to play than. Leftild left field can be,
tough depending on if you get quirks like In fenwayer.

Speaker 6 (02:32:34):
HERE i, MEAN i get. It it's they're all.

Speaker 5 (02:32:35):
Hard my, my my strongest armed outfielders goes, right, center
and left and that in that.

Speaker 6 (02:32:40):
Order that's.

Speaker 5 (02:32:41):
IT i, PERSONALLY i, MEAN i understand What al. Saying
he is the second. Basement that's some Learned he is
exactly right about, that and positional awareness and, evaluation no.
Doubt WOULD i like to have what it would ideal
be my size and left, field sure it'd be. Great but,
uh on balls that are hit over his, head it
may happen a couple of. Times i'm. NOT i don't

(02:33:03):
think you have to be tall to play it. Well
does that make. SENSE i don't think you have to
be tall to play it, well AND i don't think
you have to Be, uh look at. Shortstop we'd normally
say in the past that was for a smaller guy
with range back in the seventies and. Eighties then it
got to the point With ripken and A rod and.
Guys now we got six six six seven guys playing.
Shortstop Jeremy peney is not a small. Guy, well and

(02:33:24):
our guy In, Cincinnati, yeah he's about six seven six six, before,
Right so that part. Changes i'm not concerned about al
tuo v. Side AM i concerned about his range and
seeing balls hit. Right and of course because he's not
a normal left, FIELDER i was right about. That but,
uh normally my weakest armed guys in left field and
then not not my strongest wrong. Guy, no if you've

(02:33:46):
got three of, them Then god bless. You you're playing
with a great. Outfield But al's, right it's. Different BUT
i still Think hosey Al tuove can handle, it even
though we got to get out of the thought of
he's just a second, basement even though that's where we
want to pigeonhole.

Speaker 4 (02:33:58):
Him it's the fear of the unknown in that. Regard and,
again this is not being made for defensive. Purposes this
is being made because you can't have two defense two designated,
hitters and you don't Want Jordan alvarez playing a ton
of innings out there in left.

Speaker 6 (02:34:11):
Field so and it's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (02:34:14):
Experimental we're gonna SEE i, mean and you're, trying you're
trying to, squeeze squeeze more juice out of this roster
than you've had to in the past.

Speaker 4 (02:34:20):
Years and that's part of him moving out there and
being able to have a defensive upgrade at second. Base
that's the defensive, purpose but also trying to linkeen out
this lineup as much as you. Can, Andy, uh you're
gonna be the final one on the lines, Today, andy
what's going on.

Speaker 9 (02:34:36):
Real?

Speaker 21 (02:34:36):
Quick you know your worst outfielder is always in the left.
Field let's go back way back, Today, Lizinsky Dave Kingdom. Kingdom, yeah,
yeah and we Got Adam. Dunn, well that go. MANY i,
mean the only reason those guys were Left bilt they

(02:34:57):
had to play. That they had to play him somewhere
because the battle so damn, good and that's what you
got without too. V i think the problem is the
whereas by should have. Been they probably should be trying
to Make albarez a first basement about three or four years.
Ago that would have been a perfect spot For. Alvarez
he's got. SIZE i think that that was their. Mistake and,

(02:35:20):
now as far as you, KNOW i don't think they're
gonna Put Can smiths on the, roster and that's basically
just because they can get that extra year keeping him,
down not starting him this, year AND i think that's.
Ps but we got a look at, things look At
harper And brickman the first when they first came up
at about twenty one and like twenty years, old they

(02:35:41):
had they had decent. Seasons but then you look At,
tucker you look at, holidays they both.

Speaker 6 (02:35:50):
Stuck, yeah And andy and.

Speaker 4 (02:35:53):
There, Yeah, ANDY i gotta cut you off, There, YEAH
i gotta cut you.

Speaker 6 (02:35:56):
Buddy.

Speaker 5 (02:35:56):
YEAH i appreciate the. CALL i mean we can continue
this conversation On. Monday you're going to have the conversation all.

Speaker 4 (02:36:03):
Year, WELL i mean especially too when you know it's
an error late in the game something like.

Speaker 6 (02:36:08):
THAT i know it'll be. There that's. Fine.

Speaker 4 (02:36:10):
Whatever He's Sean, Triple Emmanuel, Elmore Dan, matthews talk to
you in sixty eight hours right, Here Sewn Salisburg Show Weekend,
