the Alamodome to walk back to my car, probably at
about one am Sunday morning, and was then gonna make
my drive over to who I'll staying with a hotel
up there. Shout out to my cousin Kelly and my
uncle Dennis. They were nice enough to allow me the

couch in their room to get a few few hours
of sleep before heading back yesterday. But I mean I
felt drunk leaving that building from everything that had happened
in about twenty minutes or so for the final two
minutes of that game. And I mean it just you know,
I remember the celebration. I remember standing right in front

on the floor with the team, mind you, which that's
another story, But I mean, I still walking out to
my car was like, I don't believe that.

That just happened. Yeah, well, good morning. I was in
the building as well, and for both games. Both games,
it's obviously if they played right into Florida's hands in
the first game, that's who they are. They come from behind,
and they and Houston did the same thing.

Not shocked that they got back into it, but excuse me,
pleasantly surprised that they were able to defend his efficient
offensive team as areas in the country to one field
goal the last ten and thirty seconds. I literally I
was blown away by the way Florida, you know, did

what they did to Auburn in the second half. So
when the game started out, and it was so weird
to me because Duke was the aggressor. The first twelve
to fifteen minutes, they were getting the loose balls, they
were knocking down shots. They looked like the team that
was the most fierce defensive team in the country. Yet
when you look at the full forty minute metrics, Houston's

defense didn't really go away. Duke was playing efficient, good basketball,
and Flag and k Nipple are both off the charts.
But then you said, and they were getting to the
offensive backboards, but when the ball was on the floor
in a few times. Duke was the first twelve to
fifteen minutes. They thought, this looks more like the Cougars
are supposed to look defensively. And then we're going to

talk about the second half, and we're going to talk
about the last you know, inside of forty seconds. We're
going to talk about the ten minutes plus without a
field goal and one field go in ten minutes and
thirty seconds. Their ability to knock down free throws, smart
basketball and sharp going to the line and knocking down threes,
I mean knocking down free throws. And then Crier being

a clutch because when you say you have to have
a closer, you saw in the early game Man Alive
Florida's they got a guy who can take over, and
this SODA's Houston. All teams had that, and yet they
kept knocking down shots. And we're going to go through today,
I'm sure all different possessions. There's like then there was this,
and then there was this. But do not discount in

my opinion, what may have been the most important part
of the game was the end of the first half
when they knocked down three threes. I'm talking about Houston
because that game was close to getting out of hand.
With less than nine minutes, they were up fourteen. Duke
was my son, turns to me and says, when he

got down inside five to four games like this, I said,
my son, who does a lot, he likes to stay
for it all. My boy and I were sitting there
and he says, well that we can start the walk
if you want, And through like three or four minutes,
they said, nah. I said, you know what, We're gonna
wake this one out. That's exactly what I said to him.
I said, what's a big deal. We got nowhere to
be other than to drive home. So and I'll be

damned if we said. We kept looking at each other,
and the Cougar fans in front of us were obviously elated,
but when they were the Coups were down like eight,
and oh, we're still going to win. And so we're
all thinking, of course, because we've seen this, the relentless
nature of this team. And I'm still baffled. The drive
home was easy because my mind was so I felt

like I played yeah, but I still can't believe it.
But I'm going to tell you we're also we're not
going to talk enough about Nashally about what happened at
the end of the first half to keep that thing
under double digits. I'm just telling you it had to
because in the end, the way it turned out, you
needed all of them and the way that they because
it would have been easy to say this ant or half,
we're coming out, we're down sixteen. At halftime them down,

stay at it. And there were the inbounds passes. They
made Duke look like they'd never worked on an inbounds pass.
I just start to think of all the different minutes,
but do not lose sight of anybody of what they
did at the end of the first half, and then
in that game to that when they got a third
offensive rebound on a possession, kicked it out and knocked
down a three, and then the inbound passed all and

I mean they it was as if it wasn't just
wanting to win Duke wanted to win, it was their
refusal to lose. And we're going to talk. People are
going to talk about Duke choking and losing that game.
I'm just going to tell you if this was like
an offensive slugfest. And I also was looking at my
son pregame, you know, because we like to bet stuff
as well. Yeah, and my son says, what do you

think I said, if this game is in the sixties
for the opponent, I believe we've said it on here.
He gets up above the mid seventies towards eighties, even
though Houston's capable and we know that that's their biggest
aside from defense. This is the best offensive team they've
had since Kelvin Sampson's been here. But what it that,
my thought was the most efficient offense in America. We
haven't had an offense that efficient, meaning Dukes, in two

decades pretty close to it, or when I say two decades,
ten years, twelve years, fifteen years, whatever, it's been decade
where Duke is the hell Statistically, I think we had
to go back below I mean under two though its
been more than two decades. I think statistically it's his
efficient offensive team we've seen in a long time. And
so you don't want to get down and have to

chase that team. But we're going to the people are
going to talk about they choked. I'm just telling you,
and while they may have, I'll tell you what helped
the choke is the Houston Cougar's ability to stay in
a game plan that they put in and they run
with the whole time. Two things stuck out. Three they

got to the offensive glass and got extra shots, and
a lot of that I think they don't want. They
get Duke by ten rebounds close to it. They knocked
down threes in clutch. What they haven't been able to
do on the road to a national championship the last hand,
for the times they've been there, when they've been in
the tournament, and their defense did what it always does.
It is the most relentless, nasty, physical welcome.

I've stressed how important the conditioning is and I said
it will to beginning of tournament. It's going to pay
off for them, I swear to you. I just you
can't replace it. When legs are not the same, you
just can't keep up. And Duke's well conditioned as well.
But you saw the difference. Somebody got a little bit,
and when you're tired physically mentally, you do things you

wouldn't normally do. And the Houston Cougar's relentless approach and
then the full court pressure in the second half late
in that game, it was it was it was unbelievable,
is what it was. And they kept They got their
seventieth at the end, but it would have without the
two free throws. It's a one point game and it
stays in the sixties. Always advantage Houston the way they

play defense.

And I can't remember if it was the March Madness
account or if it was the Final Four account, but
they had footage of Kelvin Sampson when he's walking back
to the locker room with one of the officials, either
from the NC DOUBLEA or somebody, and they said to
him the largest comeback in Final four history. And you know,
he asked, all right, you know what was our largest

good thing it wasn't seventeen, because obviously you of h

storyline in this one for one not so great reason,
but a couple of really good reasons, And I think
those are the ones we need to focus on with
what he did. But I mean across the board, the players,
and they didn't say this in a disrespectful way, but
they said they didn't look like they were comfortable in
that situation, whereas you of H was like, We've been here, Kansas, Texas, Tech,

Iowa State, all those games you know at some point
in the season where you of H was in, you know, Kansas,
they're down.

itself out too? In the previous game? Florida love second
half games in Texas Town you go up and down

teams with closers did it. But getting back to the Koogs,

and to not it would have been easy to say, okay,
let's start playing desperate basketball. They played urgent basketball, but
never played desperate. The Cougar's never played desperate. So like
we can look at home. I'm gonna tell you what,
be honest with me. As much as I love him,

when he stood up to that free throw line with
two to make, I thought, still, Houston's still not going
to win this game, Chiwana, and the big fellow knocks
them both down. I mean, after he hit his first one,
was it the first one? He said? He stepped back
after he hit his first one, like hey man to
the crowd, like ye just low, you slow your role here? Yeah,
next one. It almost felt like he was a quarterback

in his home building that wanted silence so he could
get the audible check at the line of scrimmage, right
and then he knocked it down. And I'm telling you
that he'd say, this is they've come this far to
do this. They're closing this out. And then obviously and
the one end, the front end of the one on
one on the other end, Proctor would not normally miss
and missed it. I mean, you can point always say,

people and listen, say what we want here fortunate for
the most and here's the irony of it, the most.
Is there any doubt the most aggressive team in America
is the Cougars. I mean it really, You could say
what you want, but if you're looking for a tweet
tweeted it, Yes, if you looking for a pillow fight
or a soft landing or your faint of heart, you
they will steal your soul from you. And I swear

to you as an athlete, we've all had it happen
in college or pro sports, or some team or some
moment or minutes in a game stole your soul. They
some were knocked you over where you were the one
on the good side of it and the other side
of it was like, how do we overcome this? And

this game was a soul stealer for the For Houston,
it was but they're the most relentless team in America.
And the irony of it for a team that plays
so aggressive, it's like, if you're playing with them, you
came for a fistfight, and I mean a respectful fist fight,
but you came for a fistfight. Buddy and Duke Wall
phenomenal in all the respect in the world. They couldn't

handle the body blows in the second half, and they
got away with one because when you watch it, I
understand whatever the call was on the court, I'm not
sure that if it was Houston place so physical, they
got a finesse call on the Cooper flag foul they did,
which is okay because you can go up and down
a game. I'm sitting there, there are times like inside
the pain like fouled him both ways, but because it's

stuck out of who it was on in the time
of the game. A good box out by Juwan, I'm
not sure that was a foul, but that's okay. The
irony of is you got to tea that plays as
nasty and physical as they do and were able to
go take care of their business and win a game.
And I'm not sure I think with two minutes to
go in the game, three minutes ago. The Duke's big
men didn't have a rebound, did not have a rebound

the entire night. You can't How do you. I know
it's a game of guards and perimeter play, but I'm
telling you, you're big against those, you have got to
defend that rim. And there was a couple of rim
rattling dunks that were frigging impressive down to stretch to
It was just everything you wanted it had. It made
you like, we got to leave the game early. It
made you like, oh my gosh, I can't believe what
I'm seeing. Every emotion you have as a basketball fan,

it hits you. And on the walk out of the
building back to get to the vehicle, everybody was respect.
There's no fighting or no antagonizing. But the Duke fans
you could just walk mind and listen to them. It
was as if this didn't just happen to us. It
was crazy. And so did Duke lose it or did
Houston actually create it? Winning it? With the way that

they stayed doing what they do.

I think most people know the answer to that, and
that's something I know in this city they do. Oh yeah,
and I mean, you know, you could even see it
in the video that was posted on our Twitter accounts.
I mean the seat that I had was right behind
the Duke student section. Sean, it looked like the walking dead.
Like those kids filing out there, they like they all
had a look on their face like, what the hell
just happened?

It was you could see that. I've been a part
of those where you all of a sudden start to
feel things and it's like, how do you stop the

in the country for ten and a half straight minutes.
That'd be like when the Chiefs were at their best,
or the Rams on the you know, the fastest, the
greatest show on turf. That'd be like them going it

feels like two and a half games without a field
goal or a point. It's just it's just crazy. But
I'm with you. They went silent, and to watch I
was sitting in a bunch of Cougar fans and it
was we boom and they stayed the course. It was incredible.
I I understand why this team's easy to root for,
but damn, now, how much energy? And I'm going to
tell you what they're conditioning. The energy is still there.
