Storied Sounds with Dave Schneider

Storied Sounds with Dave Schneider

I like music and dogs more than humans. That said, dogs don’t speak so I will have some interesting humans as guest and hopefully get a few stories out of them. I also plan on playing many styles of sounds. You can’t beat the power of music, stories and laughter. I try to combine and share all of these on my show.

Legends of CT The Big Fat Combo featuring Cary Pollick and Tom Hearn. Tom was also a staff photographer for PUNK MAGAZINE. His pics of The Ramones, Blondie and more are world renown. This was a fun romp with the fellers. As always Dave plays a ton of music and somehow gives up control to let Tom and Cary play some of their fave tunes too.

The band was in town to record a new LP. 5 weeks at Tarquin Studios recording with Peter Katis. Dave became a sort of guide to drink, food, jumping in pools on fire (true story) and conversation. Enjoy the show with the fine gents Cean, Shea and Patrick from Somebody's Child and the elegant and chubby host Dave "Zamboni" Schneider

What is a one hit wonder? Who has one? Is it really the artist only hit? Only good tune? Is it a negative? Is it a gift? Find out all this and more with a deep dive into Adam Bernard's new book "One HIt Wondering". This was a fun one and for the record, The Cardigans and the writers of "Closing Time" ie Semisonic are so much more than that song. Dig in!

Ode to Joybuzzer. Steve Tanski and Jon Aley join Dave on this one (drummer Mike Tanski was missing in action but is a monster on the kit). Three of the most talented musicians you have possibly never heard of. Songs written and recorded in the basement like all music should be. Both of these guys started a long time ago. Jon in Those Melvins, a band that reached pretty nice peaks in the CT scene. Opening for Sinead O'Connor, Hoodoo...

AUSTRALIAN AUDIO INVASION WAS IN PLAY. SUCH SPECIAL GUEST! Dave's Storied Sounds featured Aussie Indie Rockers Radio Free Alice. Noah and Jules picked a bunch of songs including some of their own and songs ferom the Melbourne scene/their contemporaries. Dave also declared happily that this would be AN ALL AUSTRALIAN PLAYLIST (besides the opening Kinks track titled "Australia") It was tough not to cave for at least one New Zealand b...

Every year WPKN does a BOD DYLAN BIRTHDAY BASH fundraiser. This year in the middle of Brendan Toller and Herman Olivera's three hour shift Dave Schneider popped in with a surprise performance and fundraising idea. He asked OLD BOB (Brian Anderson and Chris Cavaliere) to play any song from Mr Dylan's catalogue for $100 donation. Things went swimmingly and Dave even had to join in on a very blurry version of "Visions Of Johanna". It ...

Dave plays what he thinks is some damn good cuts and speaks to man who is taking the slow road to music domination in the Amherst area and beyond, Skeg Kendall. He has a new record out and his past has been one of Dave's faves. Lifeboat, a band he had with legendary producer Gary Smith (Pixies, Blake Babies, Billy Bragg, Scrawl) Brothers Kendall and Tacklebox were all solid and sweet. Listen in!

I met John Perrin while he was out with NRBQ about 10 years ago. The band came over to my house and attacked my record collection. It was a heavenly 2 hours. John fit perfectly in my fave band. That band is a music lesson and a sweet stew for the soul. As you can see above and hear in the show you hopefully listen to right now, the kid is a monster talent and loves/lives music like we all of us nut jobs do.

This was a neatsville show! So neato! Ok, I will stop with the neat stuff but besides some great tunes of all sorts, My guest Tim Healy talks about being in the studio for his first job at Mtv 120 Minutes with a new band called Oasis. We play that live raw track and so much more. Very neaty stuff.

It's not easy to be a band and make recordings that are not derivative. At some point you do something that sounds like The Beatles, Chuck Berry or (name the band). Peter Katis has expressed his love of Bernard Hermann (Frequest composer for Alfred Hitchcock Films) They don't sound like him either. I LOVE THIS BAND who are also my best friends. Ps Peter Katis has also produced/mixed many many very influential records ie INTERPOL, T...

This show was fun and seemed almost professional. That can only lead to trouble. Dave spoke to a working musician and a legend of the road and radio ie Matt Pryor of The Get Up Kids. After Matt came a deep dive of stories and sounds with Boston's very own rock n roll encyclopedists Jim Sullivan. Writer and really such a sweet match for a music geek like Dave. Enjoy!

The Coronas are recording a new record here in Bridgeport about 7 minutes away from WPKN headquarters so Dave asked the boys if they would like to join. They are very nice fellas so even if they wanted to decline, they did not. Turned out to be a great storied conversation mixed with playing tons of music. Thanks to Peter Katis for doing what he does which is produce and mix fantastic bands at Tarquin Studios 7 minutes away from th...

    DISGRACELAND

DISGRACELAND is an award-winning music and true crime podcast about musicians getting away with murder and behaving very badly. Jerry Lee Lewis's 5th wife? Dead. Sid and Nancy? Both dead. Why? Because musicians are insane, and insane things happen to them. Why did we lose Amy Winehouse at 27? Was Debbie Harry really abducted by Ted Bundy as she claims? Is Patti Smith not just the "Godmother of Punk", but also the "Original True Crime Girl"? What really happened the night of the Jay Z nightclub stabbing? What do the Diddy indictments truly reveal? All these stories and more, on artists from every genre and their true crimes, in our massive 260-plus story archive. The Dead, the Stones, Johnny, Willie, Frank, Kurt, Courtney, Gaga, Lana, Taylor, and too many to name. DISGRACELAND is music history come to life through audio storytelling as you've never heard it before, with revealing facts: yes, assassins are the real reason the Beatles quit touring—reclaimed myths: no, Mama Cass didn't die from choking on a ham sandwich––and constant reckoning between art and artist––all told through the lens of true crime. This is the podcast for the self-proclaimed "Disgos", the musically obsessed and the true crime heads; the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best history is the history that gets buried. DISGRACELAND is where host Jake Brennan tells the stories they didn't want told. The kind you'll end up telling someone else. Get ready to uncover hidden truths and buckle up for truly edge-of-your-seat storytelling. New, fully scripted, sound-designed episodes are released every Tuesday. Bonus chat-style episodes where Jake responds to voicemails, texts, and emails from Disgos hit on Thursdays, and "Rewind" episodes from our archive drop on Sundays. DISGRACELAND is not a journalistic podcast. It's an entertainment podcast inspired by true events. Certain dialogue and scenes are dramatized, as is common in scripted entertainment based on real stories. Sources and credits for each episode are available at www.disgracelandpod.com.
