lot of things going on in life. How much travel fuels the soul.
(00:23):
Yes, and you were just inHawaii as a plus one to your significant
otherwall she was on a work trip. Yes, she'd be very proud of
you for saying it like that toHawaii. Oh, Whitey right, because
you can't because they will call youout if you mispronounce their words and names
and you try to say things likeyou know what I mean. I'd be
wanting to ask you this all week. Okay, go ahead, did you
get late? Well? There aremany facets to that issue. It's not
(00:46):
like the Brady Bunch when it comesto Lay's. That would be the Flowers.
Yes, with the aloha to sayhello and goodbye. So they don't
put one around your neck as soonas you check into a hotel. Oh
they will if you want to buyone. Oh, you know what I
mean? They remember this is atourist thing. Man. They're like,
you know, they'll get you comingin, and they'll get you going out,
(01:07):
and then on the way out they'llscan it to make sure that you
know, there's nothing bad about theflora that you're leaving the island with.
So did you purchase a flora thelay just as a memento or No?
No, because I would have hadto toss it. It would have died
while I was there. I mean, it's a flower, I mean it
is. No, it's the realThey're not like the ones of the dollar
tree that you buy. No.No. And they even had the fake
(01:30):
and baked ones in the airport, like you know, the artificial ones.
Are like, hey, you cantake this back for some friends. I'm
like, no, it's a fakelay. That's not like getting the real
lay. You know what I meanwhen we're talking about lays this early morning.
Well, there's so many other aspectsof this trip that I am dying
to know. I want to knowif it was way too short to go
(01:51):
to Hawaii for just three days.I want to know how you were as
the plus one. There's too manythings to come. Well, hang on
and we'll get to all of that. Coming up in just a few minutes.
Toby and Chilly in the Morning continueson this Monday, the twentieth day
of May, a week leading intoa holiday weekend. So some people have
this week off, some people havenext week off. We're going to get
today started because we're here and that'swhat it's all about. So coming up
(02:14):
in just a few minutes, doyou suffer from faux po? You know,
fear of other people's opinions? Pregnant, pause on purpose, fourth wall
broken eight six six ninety two sevenforty three sixty one is the number.
If you've got thoughts, feel freeto chime in talk back. Microphones also
open. We'll get into that comingup. Ninety seven point one w ASHFM,
(02:35):
Washington hat iHeartRadio station. New termalert, faux po the fear of
other people's opinions. It's kind oflike foam, only with opinions. Ninety
seven point one Watch FM where Tobyand Chilly in the Morning And if you've
got thoughts on this faux po eightsix six nine two seven forty three sixty
one. The phones are wide openfor you. So faux po, Chilly,
you came across this and why didit pique your interest this morning?
(02:57):
I think so many people are guiltyof this because they don't I don't want
to stand out. Like when youlaugh at a joke, you don't necessarily
think it's funny, or you drinkat a party because you feel the peer
pressure, or you stay at worklate because well, your boss hasn't left
yet. These are just a fewexamples of this. Do you feel any
did you ever? In life?I think that might be a part of
(03:20):
the problem back in the day,but it's not a part of the problem
now. I think that for me, I remember that it's it's not other
people's opinions that count. It's yourown opinion of you that counts. And
then when you remember that, everythingelse is secondary, and it all just
kind of falls into place, andthen you stop being fake and you start
being real. And sometimes I thinkyou can be a little too honest maybe,
(03:43):
but is that really a bad thing? So no, I'm not a
fou po person. Are you afoupo person? Certainly not with people that
truly know me. I mean,if you know me, then whatever.
But when you first meet somebody andif it's going to be an important relationship,
there is there is a component ofthat still for me at this point,
but then that goes away after alittle while. But the older we
(04:05):
get, the least we do careabout other people's say no, no,
it's a crippling thing. I mean, I know it's speaking as somebody who's
been crippled by that whole faux pothing, right you You let it consume
you, and that's not healthy. It's not okay. I mean, but
you know what do I know?I'm no therapist, I'm no doctor.
I don't have a degree, andI didn't walk to States to graduate at
(04:27):
high school. I just know thatI don't have faupo. And I know
that I have not worried about whatother people think in a while now.
And you know what, it's beengood for the soul. It really has
faux po thoughts. Talk back, microphones wide open if you want to jump
into this conversation about faupo. Areyou worried about other people's opinions? Why
or why not? We won't judge. Just want to hear what you think
(04:50):
this morning, So tap speaking sentif you're signed into your iHeart app listening
to ninety seven point one watch FMand Toby and Chilly in the Morning.

Well, the seats we're talking aboutare the ones that recline like a
bed, almost honest to God thatsome of them get heated. You can
get the head rest, the feet, it's luxurious. There's an issue though,
at least I don't know if youcan relate. But when we go
(10:45):
to a theater like that, everysingle it's been six times now, I
fall asleep. And initially I thought, oh, you know what, it's
because we're going to see like akid movie with my son and maybe it
doesn't get my attention or whatever. And I'm like, Okay, we went

you know, sometimes a movie isn'tall it's cracked up to be.

something about my body being in thatreclined position that signals to my brain night
night, that's just lack of sleep. Now what does this mean for you?

(11:56):
those reclining chairs, or maybe youhaven't been back to a theater since to
see what this is all about. If you have it and now you know
what to expect, you might fallasleep if you have some kind of crazy
schedule like we do, or ifyou just fall asleep at the darnedest times
and the darnedest places. But bottomline is may not be for you.
You might just need to wait untilit comes out on streaming services so you
(12:20):
can watch from the comfort of yourown home. Because I don't think that
you fall asleep. I've never heardyou once say no that you fall asleep
while watching a movie at home.Never never keep that in mind next time
you go to a theater. Now, let's play the game Tolby and Philly's

Morning continue now it's time for astory that we think might just make your
Monday clean clothes brighter futures. WereToby and Chilly in the Morning. You're
at ninety seven point one wash FM, And for this story, we go
(17:12):
to Kelly Miller Middle School in NortheastDC. So this guy named Jovon Johnson
was working as a community liaison withthe group called Communities and Schools of the
nation's capital. And you noticed thatsome of the students weren't coming to school
because they didn't have clean clothes. This could be because maybe the washer dryer
(17:32):
was broken in their apartments, orthey didn't even have them at all.
In this case, it was teasing. The teasing stopped them from attending classes,
and so Joeman took action. Hecollected all these dirty clothes, washed
them using the school's washer and dryer, and then gave the kids their clean
clothes back on Fridays. And hekept it all very confidential, that's right.
(17:52):
He did them as solid And thenhe realized when he went to a
different school this problem existed there aswell. Now that school did not have
machines. But he made sure thatthose kids got those clean clothes that they
could come to school the next day. Anyone got the money to install a
washer and a ventless dryer, andthen he set up pipes in the girl's
(18:12):
bathroom into a utility closet. Unbelievablethe way community and schools they work nationwide
to prevent dropouts. In DC alone, they support almost forty five hundred k
through twelve students, and they focuson things like academics, behavior, and
attendance. Why does this matter? The little things, simple solutions can help
(18:33):
bring about big changes and overcome bigchallenges. And what he did was do
something about the problem that's been growingin the district. So for that we
thank you. And it's a storythat definitely made our Monday. Where Toby

being a plus one on a worktrip and it just so happened. The
work trip was to Hawaii. Yeah, and before you left, well,
I was a little bit concerned thatyou, being the pokey little puppy that
you are, may get yourself intotrouble and get yourself in the way of
your girlfriend doing her job. Norconcerns. She was the one who reminded
me. She's like, you can'tdo this. You can't listen, you

don't don't do anything that would getyou. I can't get you out of

Yes? Absolutely good. I stayedout of the way. I cannot

I would give myself an A plusis a plus one? Was it hard
for you to stay out of theway? And not offer to help and
(23:56):
all those other things, or didyou find it easier than you thought.
I found it to be easier andmore refreshing than I thought, because you
know, I went out there toaccompany her. She was working. I
was not there. I was unofficiallythere. I was just there. And
there is being Hawaii. So it'sa beautiful place to kind of go do
(24:18):
your own things. You know.I got out and I get my own
thing, and I was able toexplore new places alone, and I enjoyed
myself and Bob while respecting her space. And I tried to be as supportive
as I could be without trying tobe overshadowing or anything. Yeah. And
also, when you accompany a significantother on a work trip of theirs,
(24:41):
you see them in a totally differentlight. Oh yeah, what was your
impression of her? I was proudof her. Yeah, that's why I
actually left her a card. Istuffed it into her makeup bag before I
left, knowing that I was leavingway before she was. Yeah, And
I wrote in the card, AndI don't think she would mind me telling
you this, even though it's kindof personal. I was like to see
you in action. Yeah, seeyou and your element and to see all
(25:02):
of these things that I know you'vebeen working on so tirelessly, that you
were doing selflessly, you know, because she was doing it for a health
You know, she's doing it fora reason, and just just to see

and I was also humbled too, because I think there are things in
life that involve you know, musicand whatever that sometimes we take for granted

you think you'll ever be invited foranother one of her work trips? Well,
