Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand onninety seven point one. Washuf out.
It's before five o'clock on a Friday. How can you not feel good on
a Friday? Toby and Chilly inthe morning. It's ninety seven point one
was CHEFM? You feeling all rightthis morning? Why you're feeling some joy
today? We went to the poolyesterday and you know, my son,
I guess made some new pool friends. One downside though, Toby, I
(00:23):
bought these water squirters. That's likea pump. It's a water pump.
Yeah, that squirts out a streamof water. Yep. Well I didn't
manage to stay dry because those kids, they don't care where they're aiming,
and so instant mom regret. Buthey, the kid had a good time,
so therefore it was fine. Imean, sometimes you don't think things
through. Those are one of thegreatest things you can find at like Costco
(00:46):
for real, Like that's my daughter'sbrother's dad used to bring those over to
the pool and all the kids wouldlike play with them, and it's just
oh and by the way, theseare pumps. They're like fifty sixty foot
pumps, like they they blow thatwater and they're they're not worried about aim
at all. It's not a videogame. There's no call of duty going
(01:07):
on now. And and you're like, what what kind of harm would a
little foam tube do? Well, well, well you'd be surprised during pool
season. I gotta tell you,I'm feeling good before five o'clock this morning
because I know we've got a bigheat dome on the way. It's supposed
to be blazing hot next week.Well, I put in preemptive strike maintenance
(01:30):
requests to make sure that the ACand everything continues to work fine. And
I never do that, never ahead. I've been burned. Literally literally,
I've been literally burned way too manytimes just blowing just a fan, blowing
air because the cooler whatever. Weshould all doan Yeah, you know what,
(01:53):
And this is like the day toput in for it. If you
can call whomever you call. Don'twait till it breaks, Yeah, don't
wait till it breaks, because nextweek everything's gonna break. Watch people are
gonna be like it's sod well, welcome to summer, or Toby and Chilly
in the morning, it's ninety sevenpoint one Wash FM, and welcome to
Friday coming up in a few minutes. Well, it is Father's Day weekend,
so let's talk about some plans thatwe might have. Alrighty, And
(02:15):
by the way, as we talkabout dads, we're aware that there are
people this may be a mixed, you know, kind of a mixed blessing
sort of holiday. You may feelsome sort of way. You might have
lost to dad, you might beestranged. We understand that, and we
feel for you. We'll get intothis coming up next. Father's Day is
Sunday. You still have time topull off a wind for your pops.
It's ninety seven point one washefm'reToby and Chilly in the morning eight six
(02:38):
six nine two seven forty three sixto one. If you have any last
minute Father's Day ideas you want toshare with the class, talkback, microphones
wide open to chili, you justput your hand up, what's on your
mind? So thirty two percent ofdads don't want anything for Father's Day?
Are you part of that thirty twopercent? I saw that this morning,
Like I'm just curious, like, what, what what makes the Father's Day
ideal for you? Well, youknow, I said last year and we
(03:00):
were talking after the show yesterday aboutthis. Every day's Father's Day for me
because I have a daughter and I'mforever going to be a dad, So
I don't know that I need toget a gift from her. It would
be nice, but really just thetime with her would be great, like
and I mean unabashed time, youknow, right, unabridged time. Time
(03:20):
when it's just the two of usdoing something that we both mutually agree on.
I don't have to be like it'smy way or the highway with her.
Do you know what that's going tobe on Sunday or not exactly yet.
I'm going to talk with her aboutdoing something together in person today.
But I can't roll out that thislittle conniving daughter of mine has some sort
(03:40):
of plan she's scheming up. Shehas her mother's daughter. But that's a
good thing. That's good. Well, but what about you? Uh well,
I think Dad's gonna come over today, hang out at the pool,
and then on Sunday it's all aboutmy husband, who's the father of our
child. So Father's Day is sortof evolved into being more about my husband
after we have our son. Youknow, my dad lives down the street.
(04:01):
I get to that's interesting you saythat because for me, it's just
kind of like a flip to script. It's it's less about me with my
daughter than it is now with meand my father. Yeah, because I'm
aware that you know, and you'veseen this song the Mother's Day, I
feel the same way like that. You know, Yes, Mother's I don't
ever feel like it's about me.It's about the mother I had, right,
No, but you know what Imean, Like, I'm aware of
(04:24):
the time that I have left withmy dad, and I'm aware that the
road behind stretches out further than theroad ahead, to paraphrase Steve Jobs,
and I want to make the mostof those moments so I won't be able
to see him this Father's Day.But that doesn't mean I haven't got something
up my sleeve. Whoo Hi,my name's Toby Napp. But I'm scheming
(04:45):
Dad, And if you're listening, well, the cat's out of the bag.
I better come through now. Anyway. Happy Father's Day to those of
you who observe. It's ninety sevenpoint one. Wash up, m where

It's simple to use here at ninetyseven point one WASHFM. Where I've
decided Chile, I'm gonna go panningfor gold? What are you talking about?
So for gold? Where from?I'm faced with a few things.
Number One, my significant other wantsto go on a romantic vacation. She
wants to go to Wyoming, BigSky Country near Yellowstone. Okay, she's
(10:31):
into these things. Two, myparent's fiftieth wedding anniversary is this year,
which gives me a year to pulloff a win. Three Father's Day.
Dad's a retired geologist. He loveslooking for this stuff. And as you
know, I took my daughter forspring break once and we went out and
looked around this crater of Diamond StatePark in Arkansas for diamonds. Didn't find
(10:54):
anything. Okay, okay, holdon a second, met up with my
parents and went looking for courts.Christie's on some of those. When is
this panning for gold trip going tobe taking place? At some point in
time this summer? Dad and Igot to get together on the dates.
So I'm sorry that sounds so boringto me. Unless there's a guaranteed win,
Well, why would it be boringjust putting a little sifty thing in
(11:16):
the water and shaky, shaky andseeing if anything comes up, and it's
usually just sand. Will won't yoube disappointed if nothing comes up? No,
because my dad did the joy inthat I will see in his face.
It will create a moment like likewhen we were like when we were
standing in the mud of that crater, that volcanic trader looking for diamonds,
(11:37):
Any diamonds. No, no,we didn't find any diamonds exactly. But
then again, I don't think wehad a very good strategy. We could
look, there's YouTube videos about thisstuff. We can formulate a strategy.
If anybody's ever been to yellowstonach Onmining for gold or panning for gold,
feel free to, like, youknow, hit me up and tell me
what your go to wait a finegold is because this could be the best
(12:03):
summer trip ever. That's great.Good for you. What nobody comes and
sprinkles it beforehand? Right, No, it's not like a stocked lakeish No,
who would do that with gold?Would I do that to my dad?
The answer is no? Okay, good gold as gold. I mean
I might be I might be apie in the sky dreamers. Sometimes sometimes
(12:26):
I might do dumb things, butI'm not an idiot. Okay, who's
gonna put gold in the creek soyour dad can find it? You kidd
me? I want to find thegold myself. Right well, I won't
be laughing if you really do findit. You are dripping with sarcasm,
right yeah, sure, well youjust keep on dripping. I'll go cash

Social media fostering interesting connections these days. A couple of strangers you might have
seen this story went viral this week. They inadvertently switched laptops while I guess
(17:14):
in Madrid on holiday and they werein the airport's security line. They used
social media to find one another andto like flip the script and to get
each other their laptops back. Iknow, it's amazing the power of social
media does make your world a lotsmaller, and you think about all the
random and meaningful connections that people havemade. I know, like for us
(17:36):
on this show, with our Facebookpage for the show or Instagram, we've
got regular commenters like Wendy and Fairfax. I mean, she's one of those
people that I feel like she becomesa part of the show. Oh yeah
a lot of times when she's commentingand calling and on more crazy first dates
than anybody else that listens to.Toby and Chilly One were of the first
people she DMS to tell us aboutit a lot a date last night.
(17:59):
It's Wendy. He was horrible. You know. I like Brian Montgomery.
I call him Bemont. He's oneof the coalition of the Willing, as
it were. Yeah. And thenthere's another guy too from Poolesville who's an
incredibly talented artist. In fact, one year, you and producer Kayla at
the time got me, I thinkfor Pole season or my birthday or something
a painting turned into a towel fromYeah, James Vasari. Yeah, yeah,
(18:22):
he's another one. Uh. Youknow, I wouldn't know this guy
from Adam had it not been forsocial media these days, I wouldn't know
my significant other from anybody else.Had She had slid up into my DMS
and said, look, I don'tnormally do this, but ah, I
love that. I love how that'show you two met. I mean,
some people have dating apps like Chilliand her husband. Me, I have
a significant other that just smacked mein the face and my dms on Insta.
(18:45):

and then ultimately they use social mediato find one another and to get the
laptop's returned to their rightful owners.Yeah, and we were talking about some
of the connections we've made on socialmedia, and now it's time for you
(19:48):
to jump into the story. So, Todd in Burke, what meaningful connection
did you make through social media?I found my wife on Facebook. We
were friends in high school, butthen we lost touch and I found her
on Facebook and friended her and westarted talking and we wound up meeting and
dating for a couple of years untillast year we got married. If it
wasn't for social media, I don'tthink I would have ever seen her again.
(20:11):
To thank you for jumping in.That is interesting, missed connections,
lost connections, lost love, andthat's why people get nervous when you get
in touch with old flames on Well, you know what, that's what social
media does. It allows for thefields to be feels all over again.
Stephanie, listening to us this morningin Germantown, tell us your story.
(20:33):
What's up? I actually started playingan RPG game during quarantine, so it
was extremely active with online players fromall over the world. We started a
little group of us that would playtogether daily and teams, and we even
ended up having group zoom calls oncea week to discuss things that we would
do. We still keep in touchto this day. You know that's interesting.
I bet there are a lot ofgamers that make lifelong friends from people
(20:53):
who live all over the world.Oh you kidding. I don't see my
kid for hours and hours and hoursduring the day at a time. Why
because she's online gaming and talking topeople that she's met that live all over
the world who happen to be playingthe same game she's playing at that talk

Wasch F Monica listening to us overin Fairfax this morning. You had something
(24:59):
that your dad would kill you fourif he were to find out. Go
ahead, tell us what it is. We won't judge. I was an
older kid. I was like sixteen, and I was working at a restaurant
and I drove his car to work, and I was just a really bad
driver. I was sixteen, andone day when I was leaving, I
backed out of my parking space intoa dumpster and scratched the car and I
brought it home, and I sworeup and down like I have no idea.
(25:19):
I think somebody just like hit mewhile I was parked in a parking
lot and drove away, and Inever admitted to it my entire life.
I'm pretty sure he would kill me. You know what. I bet Dad
knew deep down inside that you werethe culprit. Dad's just to have a
way. They have a dad sense. It's kind of like mom has mom
sense, Dad has dad sense. Both of them can smell through our bs's
(25:44):
kids now Michelle and Silver Spring,Europe. Well, what would your dad
kill you if he were to findout about. So there was a friend
house that I would go over to. We just would steal her dad's beers
