Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand onninety seven point one Wash Up Out.
If you're feeling good before five o'clockin the morning, bottle up that feeling
and keep it through this very steamyweekend. Toby and Chilly in the morning.
It's ninety seven point one wash FM. Let me simply say that I
am feeling real good because I knowthat last night was a good night to

(00:20):
help a great cause, the Boysand Girls Clubs of Washington, and just
to hear these stories because I wasat a fundraiser thing that they had last
night at gala, to hear thesestories of the way this organization has empowered
young people, not much younger thanmy daughter, not much older than your
son, Chilly. Pretty incredible stuffthat they're teaching these kids every day in

(00:44):
the world of STEM and the worldof empowerment, in the world of homework.
It's just such an incredible organization andI didn't really dive that deeply into
it before until last night. Goodstuff, So I feel good about the
future of the world. Good. You've got to be feeling good because vacation
is right around the corner. Yeah, I packed my clothes last night,

(01:06):
so I got a big chunk ofit done. And I used for the
first time those vacuum seal plastic pouchesand oh my god, oh my god.
I only took up a quarter ofthe suitcase before I turned the microphone
on. Chili said, game changer. Yeah, I've used packing cubes.
That's different this and I don't needa pump to do this one. You
literally put your stuff in this littleplastic pouch and when you when you do

(01:27):
the role, the air comes outand it flattens everything. And I will
tell you they're the best, Likewhen Kylie didn't use them her first semester
at school or her first year atcollege, but she started using those afterwards
and it cut down space and itcut down time. You know what that
means when we get to the shipin Bermuda, It means Mommy can go

(01:49):
shopping because there's going to be spacein that suitcase. I just remember,
you've got to carry those bags toowith you, so you gotta be careful
with what you shop or because youknow you got to pack that, I'd
there's plenty of space in the suitcasethough, because our vacuum sealed everything.
Well, there you go. Yeah, can you bring the vacuum seal on
the boat. You don't need thevacuum seal. That's right to just roll
it. I just roll it upand it works. Well. Good stuff.

(02:12):
Well, let's get through today soyou can get on vacation, and
so you who are listening to usright now on ninety seven point one wash
FM can get into your Friday andinto your weekend. Let's get it started
in here. Do you have enoughmoney in case something happens, just in
case there's an emergency? Do youhave enough money to live on? What's
that dollar amount? We'll talk aboutit coming up. The average American does

(02:35):
not feel prepared for the worst untilthey have just over five thousand dollars saved.
Toby and Chilly in the morning,it's ninety seven points one wash FM
at eighty six six ninety three sixtyone. How much money do you have
saved? And are you ready togo? What's that dollar amount anyway?
Jill gosh, Well, without wedon't have to reveal the amount, but

(02:57):
I will say we go through ebbsand flows in the world, right unexpected
things come up. And the lasttime that happened was about a year ago,
and that's when I was the mostanxious about our financial situation. Yeah,
what about you, like what makesyou kind of not low sleep?
Maybe, but yeah, maybe youdo lose it. So there is a

(03:17):
study that's floating around the Internet ofthings today which does say that most people
don't have enough to live per day, let alone and even an emergency.
I've been pretty lucky in my lifethat I've not been super concerned about it
until maybe the last year or so. Yeah, when I just got barraged

(03:38):
by medical bill after medical bill aftermedical bill after and they just pile up,
and they never seemed to stop.Even now they seem to not stop
coming. I think that that's acommon denominator, is when everything comes fast
and furious and it's not paced outlife. Emergencies should be spread out.
They shouldn't all come at once. That's the thing I think about when I

(03:58):
look at this research in this Idon't think that like to your point about
you know, everybody has a differentnumber. I think that number changes over
time. I think one month thatmight be this, one month that could
be that. But the bottom lineis you have to have something in the
bank just in case you just youjust never know, no, and then
you sort of have to look aroundand go, Okay, what's going to

(04:19):
be sacrificed to prepare for this? And yeah, I mean it does.
It does keep people up at night. Oh yeah, because it's you know,
anxiety induces a thing for real.It does embody itself in many different
ways, and when it comes tomoney, it emboys itself. At about
three in the morning, when youcan't sleep ninety seven point one wash CHEFM,

(04:41):
Are you ready for the worst? How much money do you need to
have on hand? Do you thinkyou could handle it? Feel free to
jump into the conversation if you wantto talk back. Microphones open to coming
up in just a few minutes. We'll try to help adjust your mindset for
this Friday. A few words toinspire as we prepare for a steamy weekend.
Ind T'll be a chilly in themorning, Friday, ninety seven point

(05:05):
to work on your headspace. Whatis the morning mindset quote today? It
comes from the Instagram feed mindset raptors. I don't know who actually said it,
but they posted it, so I'mgiving them credit. Once you start
seeing results, the grind becomes addictive. Once you start seeing results, the

(05:27):
grind becomes addictive. It's a grind, it really is. It can be
a lot of work. It cantake everything you've got at times and then
some. But the truth of thematter is is once you start piling up
some wins, once you start gainingmomentum, once you start seeing the results
of that grind, the grind becomessomething you need to fuel your soul and
to fuel your life, and tofuel everything that is inside of you that

(05:50):
makes you use. So embrace thatgrind and embrace the results. Are you

the homeowners even had proper permits.Former Prince George's County Council member Mel Franklin
has been charged with multiple accounts offelony, theft, scheme, embezzlement,

(10:13):
the morning on ninety seven point oneWASHFM, where a DC restaurant's been making
the news this week because they've implementedquiet hours. Thoughts on quiet hours at
restaurants eight six six nine two sevenforty three sixty one the number you can
leave us a message of via talkback to if you want to Here come
the hard facts there at Chiliamar sothey've got like the low five Sundays they

(10:35):
have a quiet brunch from noon tothree and then again a quiet dinner I
think like four to six or fiveto six. And the idea behind it
is they're just going to lower theambient music so that the conversations at the
table are not as loud, becausethat's one of the biggest complaints that restaurants
will get is how loud it isin there. We're talking about Simbo by

(10:56):
the way and Northwest d C.Good for you, Sibo American Restaurants IVO,
owned by brothers One and Manuel Olivera. Well, they say that,
you know, they got feedback thatprompted them to do this. They say
it's been successful so far. Idon't know about you, chilly, but
I can understand why. If I'mgoing to go some places and I want

(11:16):
to have, like if you andI are going to go have like a
conversation, Yes, the last thingyou and I need to be doing is
shouting about stuff because we shot enoughhere as it is seven point or and
it's annoying having to repeat yourself. The only time a loud restaurant is okay,
honestly, is if you're just goingfor the food and you're not really
planning on talking to the person you'rewith. You're just sitting there eating and

(11:39):
interesting, you would say, withthe food. So for me, I
have like my roll index of places, there are restaurants that also have really
good bars, and I don't carehow loud they get. Oh, yes,
because I'm not there for the foodor the conversation. Although I might
be there for the conversation. It'smore people watching with friends. But then
there are those places like you know, like Cebu, I'm gonna miss announce

(12:00):
it. I knew I'm going tojinx myself. That's okay? Where where?
If I were going to go there, I know you and I could
sit there. We wouldn't have toworry about screaming. We wouldn't have to
worry about putting on the show leavingwith your voice hurt. I hate that.
That's the worst. No, no, no, no, it's not
good. And I'm glad they've implementedthis, And hey, if it's working
for them, that would not bea bad idea. I certainly couldn't take
my dad to a lot of blazywhere's a hearing aid? I know I

(12:24):
wouldn't be able to take a youngerversion of my daughter to a place that's
like super loud, because that wouldjust make her throw a fit. Yeah,
if we're talking about my daughter atfive or six, what do you
think about this? Quiet hours atRestaurant's a good idea. Are they onto
something? Yay nay? Good stories. Welcome. We love hearing from you

good, right, that's right,Leimron. Though you've got the question,
what is your guest for these ticketsto Shakira? Receipt receipts? Well,
I want to make a joke aboutthe CVS receipts. I think that's even
way or no paper than anybody canimagine. I'm not joking about receipts.

(14:15):
I'm so religious about keeping records andreceipts now that like, I had to
check out of a parking garage lastnight and I took the receipt and took
pictures of it on my phone.Receipts are important, sir, Yes,
and they do acquire a lot ofpaper. That is the correct answer.
Yay, wonderful, thank you, congratulations, You've won a spot in Chili's

Stay right there, Top Stories topof the Hour. President Biden and Donald

(15:22):
Trump are getting ready for their firstpresidential debate. It's set for June twenty
seventh. Biden reportedly is focusing onways to hold Trump accountable for his record.
Trump, meanwhile, is holding policydiscussions with his allies and also vice
presidential hopefuls. A former member ofthe Prince George's County Council who abruptly resigned
last week is now being charged withembezzlement. Prosecutors accused Mel Franklin of taking

(15:48):
over one hundred thousand dollars from hiscampaign fund between twenty twenty and twenty twenty
three to pay for personal expenses.Virginia Transportation officials or met yesterday to discuss
where they're adding hot lanes on theBeltway from Springfield to the Wilson Bridge would
benefit the area. Now that projectis opposed by some local leaders, especially

(16:08):
those who live on the Maryland sideof the Potomac River. School officials say
Montgomery County Public Schools are going tohave a number of changes in place designed
to address complaints of bullying and alsosexual harassment by school employees. So moving
forward, supervisors will be required todisclosed prior romantic and sexual relationships with employees

(16:30):
in their supervisory chain. And accordingto a recent report, Americans are more
vacation deprived than ever before. Fiftythree percent of Americans don't plan to use
all their vacation days this year. Now, the average American gets twelve paid
days off every year, which isthe least of the eleven countries that were

It's ninety seven point one was CHEFM. But Toby and Chilly in the Morning
we're next. We're going to talkto you about flipphones. Everything that is

(17:12):
old is new again. The flipphone is making a comeback. Why and
would you ever go back to usingthem? Thoughts on this we'll get into
it coming up. So just hasa very franky bally feeling about it.
Billy Joel at ninety seven point onewash CHEFM or Toby and Chilly in the
Morning. The headline says the flipphone is making a comeback. Thoughts eight

(17:34):
sixty six WASHFM. The number onehere comes the TLDR on this. People
are seeking more and more control overtheir lives. So the flip phones have
surged in sales, particularly with theGen Z types and the younger millennials right
up fifteen one thousand percent recently. That is huge and the reason why they

(17:56):
say is that people are trying tograb for a simpler, more mindful,
way less distracted form of life.Thoughts Chiliamar So, I was the last
person in my circle to go froma flip phone to a smartphone. But
once I've gotten smart I can't gobackwards, right, So I don't think

(18:18):
I could go back to a flipphone because I'm just so used to having
the news headlines at my fingertips.I'm so used to being able to do
emails at my fingertips. I don'twant to have to run to a computer
or to a laptop. Now,what about you? Could you your next
phone be a flip phone? Youcould? Really? Could you do that?
I? Probably could? And here'swhy, Because I'm such an early

(18:38):
adopter of technology that when the restof the world was just discovering stuff,
I had already been using it,and I had already started to show the
signs of being distracted. Where yourconversation with me might be one thing,
but I'm more concerned about whatever notificationI just got, or whatever might be
breaking in the news, or whateverI feel like I need to know about

(19:00):
and turn the notifications off. Well, I do but nonetheless they're still there.
It's still a thing. And havingone of these quote dumb phones,
I tend to believe with this oneguy, I tend to believe what this
one guy says who they interviewed forthis story. Dumb phones allow you to
be more present and more connected becausethey push back against that constant need to

(19:22):
know, which checks all the boxesof an addiction. What I will do
when my son is old enough isget him a flip phone without anything except
the ability to text or call.Once you go smart, Like I said,
it's tough to go back. Ithink it's an addiction. Clearly it
is eight sixty six nine three sixtyone. It's not about what I think,

(19:45):
though. What's your take on this? Could you go back to a
flip phone? Give up your smartdevice? Thoughts? Feel free to share

up in just a few minutes, how old do you feel? Some people

(20:06):
feel older than they are, soyou feel older or younger? Thoughts will
get into this coming up as Tobyand Chilly in the morning continue to stay
with them. How old do youfeel? Well, here's why you probably
feel older than you are. Andby the way, if you have some
thoughts on this, jump in eightsix, six, nine, two,
seven, forty three sixty one.A majority of Americans eighty five percent,
experience some sort of joint pain, probably because they're feeling the effects of age

just catch up to them. Andthere's a study that's found that Americans over
the age of forty five feel liketwelve years older than their actual age.
What is that ridiculousness? Would yousay that's true for you? Uh?
Not currently? But yeah, therewas a time seven years ago when I
got my hysterectomy, I immediately feltten years older. Them hot flashes were
no joke. But I think nowthough, Toby, I feel like my

(20:55):
age whatever, my physical you knowwhat I mean, my age. What
about you? I don't feel olderthan I am. I feel like I'm
my age. Your body, yourbody is what you are. Yeah,
there are things I'm not as quickat, you know, and maybe the
you know, surgeries plural that I'vehad have caused some of that. But
I also think too that it's morejust age related. Things aren't as fast

(21:17):
as they were when they were brandnew. That's called called time. You
know. I care. You know, things wear out. You have to
get new tires on the car,y need new brakes, gotta change the
oil. But it doesn't make mefeel any older than I am. I
don't know that I feel younger,but I don't know that I feel older.

(21:37):
I just feel like I am whatI am. You know, my
dad always says, you know yourbody's starting to go sideways when it hurts
to go upstairs. I'm like, you're right, that's about starting soon.
Well that's every day. I'm justkidding. I don't like to take the
stairs, so I like an elevator. It's just easier. What do you
think? Talk back Microphont's wide openeight sixty six ninety three sixty one is

I'm detecting two distinct camps here.Yeah, there's the camp that kind

(24:33):
of might side maybe a little bitwith where I fall, which is,
Nah, I don't feel anything.I just feel my age right, and
I'm not as young as I usedto be. But that doesn't mean I
feel younger or feel older. Ijust feel yes. And then there seems
to be the side that you wouldprobably fall under. Yeah, there are
a lot of people that feel atleast a decade older. And sometimes your

(24:53):
body screams when you're going up anddownstairs, and those are the moments you
feel that way. Why can't theyjust be consistent for all of us?
Why can't we just feel a certainway as we progress through life and we

like I really do, I believethat, Like it's what keeps me from
looking old. I feel like Ilook younger than all my friends because it's
like a mind of a matter thinglike manifesting it, you know, and
it's like you're only as old aslike you like feel, and like people
