with us all week. You know, that's why I'm feeling good before five
this morning. One. You've chosento be here with us every day this
week as you've been preparing to liveyour life at ninety seven point one WASHEFM

(00:23):
with Toby and Chilly in the morning. The other reason that I'm feeling good
before five, Kat Harris and forChilli A. Mars, is that it
is Friday, and after today weget to unplug for a hot minute as
we get into a short week forso many people who are leaving like literally
today to start their Fourth of Julyholiday plans. I am so happy that
it's Friday, and I'm happy thatI can sleep in tomorrow. Oh lord.

(00:48):
You know that's the thing that peopledon't talk about is it's tough sometimes
to get up and to do thisschedule. There are times when I've dozed
off at traffic lights and whatnot. But oh oh, it's been happening with
me waking up at two am.I do not know how you people do
it. Oh you prayer and lotsof coffee and caffeine and meo energy water
and more. But it does helpbecause here's the thing, you get.

(01:11):
It gives you a reason to getthrough it, you know, and you
just kind of keep on pressing on. But anyway, let's press on and
get into this Friday, because thesooner we get started means the sooner we
get done and we can all gocrawl into our beds and take a power
nap and get ready for a weekend. Toby and Chilly in the Morning on

Them, Toby and Chilly in theMorning. Eight sixty six nine two seven
forty three sixty one is the number. If you want to call it,
tell us what you're streaming. Iwould recommend Katie Harris that you add Hulu's
Perfect Wife The Mysterious Disappearance of SharingPoppini to your list. I've just started
streaming into this or tapping into thisstream as it were, and it is

(02:21):
riveting. We're talking gone girl onsteroids. You say, gone girled on
ste Her, Gone girl on steroids. Don't want to watch? Oh,
it's uh, it's ridiculous. Longstory short. She is the wife orchestrates
her own abduction. We'll leave itat that. And that's called the Perfect
Wife. Yes, and in justthe depths that she goes to to fabricate

(02:45):
things, disappearance and stuff. Imean, this isn't some of this stuff
is in the news. I don'twant to ruin the show, but wow,
is this based on a true story? Yes, it's And that's why
if you're into like true crime stuff, you're gonna love this because it's i
mean, where she comes up withthe story and the depths of the story

(03:07):
telling she creates just to do whatshe did unbelievable. I kind of want
to just go home now and watchthis. Well you know what it shows
over We're going home to watch Hulu'sPerfect Wife to see what happened to Sherry
Pepini. What would you stream ifyou could add something to the list for
us to stream as we get intoThe The Bear, I'm really into that

(03:27):
show, The Bear, and that'scome out of so I want to watch
The Bear. I want to watchBridgerton and the documentary on Selene Dion.
Oh. I'm hearing really good thingsabout the documentary on Selene Dion. It's
very revealing from what I'm told,I think it makes you look at her
in a different light. And tome, when I see a celebrity that's

(03:47):
off stage and you get a glimpseinto their life, it's always fascinating.
So I'm looking forward to watching that. One other thing I would watch is
if you're into it and not everybody'sinto science fiction, The Acolyte on Disney.
Plus it's a Star Wars. It'sin the Star Wars universe as it
were, a really really good storyin the making. Here, just the

(04:08):
classic battle between good and evil, the classic battle between internal demons and struggles
family issues. It's just really goodstorytelling. And that's what streaming is all
about, finding stories that resonate withyou and embracing them. So stream on
this holiday week and this weekend. It's ninety seven point one wash CHEFM.

time for us to pause and talkabout well you and your mindset, your
morning mindset this morning, let's headinto the weekend with some positive vibes.

(04:51):
What's our morning mindset? Thanks tothe great Kobe Bryant, listen to this.
Haters are a good problem to have. He hates the good ones,
they hate the great ones. It'sfrom Kobe Bryant, who knew a bit
about having haters. Haters were agood problem to have. Kobe says nobody
hates the good ones. They hatethe great ones, So you know what

(05:14):
be great today and if they hate, let them hate and watch the money
pile up. Okay, that wasmore fifty cent than Kobe, but hopefully
that helps. If you need thosewords on demand, you can find them
the Toby and chillipage at WASHFM dotcom. I hoped it helped you get
into the right mind space this morning. And if you know somebody who needs
to hear those words or read thosewords, you know where to find them.

(05:36):
And that's your morning mindset for thisFriday morning. As we get into
the weekend coming up in minutes, entertainment news. We call it showbiz buzz.

Time for some show biz buzz KTwhat you got. Taylor Swift just made
this year a year to remember forpatrons of food banks and Liverpool, England

(06:19):
by funding their meals for three hundredand sixty five days. Now. Taylor,
She's been making food bank donations atevery stop on Our Era's tour,
but this one, they say shereally outdid herself because supplying this food bank
with food for an entire year isabsolutely huge. Speaking of Taylor, reports

(06:42):
are in that there is a littlebit of a riff Megan Markle supposedly fuming
about Taylor Swift's new friendship with Britain'sPrince Prince William and apparently it's left her
and Prince Harry feeling a little bitleft out. Royal Family say that Megan
hit the roof when she heard thatTate turned down an invite to appear on

(07:04):
her podcast, only to pop uphanging out with will and his kids in
London. Sarah Michelle Geller has signedon to play Dexter Morgan's new boss at
the with the show the Miami MetroPolice Department. That's where she's going to
be the New Boss. This isthe Dexter prequel series called Dexter Original Sin.

(07:27):
I'm a huge Dexter fan. Cannotwait Now. Godzilla and King Kong
they are coming to Max. GodzillaVersus Calling the New Empire will be available

more Top stories Top of the Hour. The first presidential debate of twenty twenty
four was arguably unlike anything the nationhas seen before. President Biden stumbled at

(08:13):
times during the night, which reportedlyis sparking concerns among Democrats over his age
and ability to take on Donald Trump. In November. Meanwhile, Trump seemed
to try and deflect his actions duringthe attack on the US Capitol, ignored
some questions and dismissed accusations that hehad an affair with Stormy Daniels. The
Los Angeles Lakers, repairing Lebron Jameswith his son Browny. The team selected

(08:35):
Browny fifty fifth overall pick in theNBA draft yesterday. DC fire officials are
urging city residents to be safe whenusing fireworks. During the fourth young people
shooting off Roman candles were blamed fora fire at a Southeast DC apartment building
earlier this week. The city's firechief says illegal devices that shoot flames or

(08:58):
launch projectileiles can easily cause injuries andspark fires that spread quickly. DC's Fire
Marshal says anyone wanting to set offfireworks should only buy them at licensed dealers
and use them where legally allowed.Uber wants to show some DC drivers the
benefits of using public transportation and rideshares. The company will give thirty drivers

you had a boss once upon atime who he asked me to obtain some
illegal substances. And me, beingthe small town Minnesota girl, I was
like nineteen at the time, Isaid, oh, I don't know where

(11:09):
people get that, but I canask around, and he goes, no,
no, no, you don't askaround for that. No. One
does not ask about where the sweetand low splendor comes from. One just
goes and gets it because one knowswhere to go to get it. Yeah.
Probably not a good idea, notin the world of HR these days,
to go ask in an employee toget you some sugar for the buggers,

(11:31):
if you know what I mean.Well, you know what it's crazy
is I actually had a boss notjust ask me, but tell me that
I was going to do a weightloss program, oh wow, and pay
for it out of my pocket. And his excuse was, well, you
were on the air and you saidyou wanted to lose weight, so here's

(11:52):
what you're gonna do. There isten ways of wrong right there. Yeah,
right, Just because I said Iwanted to do it doesn't mean I
needed you to go sell it exactlywhat about you, Toby? I had
to buy beer for a manager atthe grocery store I was working at at
the time. Yep. I wasa sophomore in high school and he wanted
his can of Lone Star beer. They sold beer by the can in Texas

(12:13):
back in the day. At theKroger I worked at, I was just
like, yes, Sir, tookhis dollar, went and got him his
beer, took it back up tohis office. Did he share with you
at least No? I was inhigh school and I was working, but
he made you buy it, soat least he could do. Nobody would
ever give me that task because theyknow that I would be like two for

(12:33):
me, one for you, twofor me, one for you. Toby

of an arrest that was part ofthe road Shark safety initiative. Officials talk

And we are just a few daysaway from the Caesar Salad turning one hundred
years old on the fourth of July. The Caesar salad was invented by an
Italian chef in Mexico on an Americanholiday forecast. Absolutely fabulous, gonna be

(16:23):
sunny with a high of eighty five. Right now we are at sixty six

If you're signed into your iheartapp, press Thatt microphone and speak and answer

(17:08):
for Chilliamar, How is the fourthgonna be different for you? Anything planned
well this year compared to any otheryear? I will be doing sparklers and
lots of fun little activities with mygranddaughter Malaya. I'll look at you making
core memories. It'll be a partof Inside Out three and just a couple
of summers brought to you by DisneyPixel. Be careful with those sparklers.

(17:30):
By the way, I don't wantyou to get burned. Okay, good
for you to note, because Iam a little clumsy. And what do
you have planned? Well, talkto me after the fourth because if I
end up taking my dog with meto Texas, it'll be the first time
I've ever flown with an animal.I don't know that I can get her
into doggy daycare. She just hadher girl parts taken out, so I
know she's got to go through atest. She's never been to a doggy

(17:52):
daycare before. I've never flown witha dog before. I have a feeling
that you put the two of ustogether. Things could get very interesting on
this flight to Texas to see myfamily. I look forward to the movie
Dogs on the plane with Toby Nap. Let's go to Woodley Park this morning
in DC. Tara, thank youfor getting up and talking to us before
you go to get some hot yogain. What's going to be different about

(18:15):
the Fourth of July holiday for youthis year? Oh, it's such a
big difference. I'm hanging out withmy friends. I have like ten different
people that are coming over. Lashairdidn't have anybody, So yeah, a
nice little friend gathering in game night. Oh that sounds like fun. I
love it when I have lots ofpeople around, unless, of course,
you're the only one doing the cleanup after they all leave. Oh no,
I put everybody to task. Thereyou go. You've that in mind.

(18:37):
If you're going to Kat's house forthe Fourth of July and for fireworks
and a cookout, Joanne and Lorton, what are you have planned? Well?
For me, it's gonna be prettydifferent because I'm actually pregnant this year
and I wasn't last year. Sono drinking. I can't eat hot dogs
this year. That's the thing Ijust recently found out. Ooh, no
shelf ash either. Oh that wouldbe horrible. I didn't realize that you

(18:59):
can't. I knew shellfish, butI didn't know you couldn't have hot dogs
when you're pregnant. What's the Fourthof July without a hot dog? I
know? And what's pregnancy without somewine? Isn't that allowed? Now?
What? Oh? Okay, Melissaand cabin John, what do you have
planned? Oh? God, thisyear's gonna be so much better. Last
year my roommate and I have watchedfireworks from the roof and they were like
all dispersed because no one how toset fireworks. And this year I get

(19:19):
to go home and see my familyand see the big fireworks, and it's
gonna be great. Well, whateveryou do, celebrate the fourth safely?
Where Toby and Chilly in the morning. It's ninety seven point one WASHEFM And
to help you celebrate the fourth ina safe way? Coming up next,
parents of kids who may be calledneurodivergence, We've got things you need to

(19:41):
know when it comes to keeping themsafe and not scared during the fireworks.
We'll unpack all of this next withToby and Chilli in the morning. As
the base sum this Friday morning, ninety seven point one WASHM parents gather around,
especially if you're a parent of akid who might be called neurodivergent,
or maybe you're just the parents ofa kid who has an aversion to things

(20:02):
that are sparkly, and go boom. Talking about fireworks, there are some
things you need to know. Weas producer Taylor's Shaye to put together a
quick list based on some of herown experiences, because Taylor, one of
your sons, by the way,Toby and Chilly in the Morning at ninety
seven point one was chifn one ofyour sons is quote neurodivergent end of quote.
I call that a superpower. Yeah, Miles is autistic and he's nonverbal,

(20:23):
but we always assume competence. Weexplain to him what's going on,
what he's going to hear, thathe's going to be safe, and then
he has a lot of sensory needsand we try to fulfill those all day
long leading up to the fireworks sothat he's a little more regulated once the
fireworks start. And we love ourGaithersburg fireworks. Although we do not go

(20:44):
to Old Town. We parked furtheraway, so the noises are a little
more dampened, and he still wearsnoise canceling noise protecting ear defenders, so
even the little bit we do hereis dampened. And then, of course,
if you have a child with specialneeds, you know you always have
a plan B and an exit andyou consider traffic. Those are things that
work well for our household right on. And we bring this up because we

(21:06):
know that in parts of the DMVtonight fireworks get underway and then they run
for the next nine days through nextweekend. And that's why we think this
is important. Good stuff, Andthank you for pointing some of that stuff
out. Now. Is there anythingkt and for Chiliamar that resonates with you
when it comes to the little onesand how they react to the fireworks.

(21:26):
I think it's really important as aperson in a neighborhood to if you know
that there is a child or thatthere is just somebody who is sensitive to
fireworks, that you know that andyou keep that in mind before you actually
start shooting off fireworks every ten minutes. Yeah, very good point on that.
Yeah, have a little grace forthose people who live around you,

(21:48):
because you never know what they mightbe going through. One of the things.
And I would not try to putanything on top of what Taylor's shape
put together because she lives with itevery day and it was a very good
list and very important things to know. Well, I didn't realize that my
daughter had an aversion to some ofthe lights and sounds until recently, and
she used to freak out at fireworksover the last few years. I didn't

(22:08):
realize that it was a result ofsome of the stuff she mentally was going
through. And I think it's importantbased on that not to judge, you
know what I mean. Just becausemaybe you don't understand the why doesn't mean
that something isn't happening. So havea little grace when it comes to your
kid having some things going on whenit comes to fireworks, and remember it's

(22:30):
the fourth of July. It's supposedto be fun. We're celebrating the birthday
of our country. And if youare freaked out by loud noises and things
that go boom in front of you, PBS the Capital fourth you can watch
from the comfort of your own homeand you can turn the volume down if
you want to. Yeah, Iwas just gonna say, watch it on
mute. We've done that before too. There see, there you go.
Anything to add to the list, jump in, find us to Toby and
chilipageashfm dot com, or leave usa message via talkback if you're signed in

(22:55):
to your iHeart app right now andwe'll hear it coming up speaking of fireworks,
and they do start tonight. Kidsneed to be taken care of,
but so do our pets. We'lltalk to a local vet about some ways
to make sure your pets have agreat Fourth of July two. That's next
as Toby and Chilly in the morning. Continue Top stories Top of the Hour.

(23:17):
President Biden and Donald Trump will hitthe campaign trail today right after their
first debate of the twenty twenty fourelection. Biden and the First Lady going
to be traveling to Raleigh, NorthCarolina. This afternoon. Former President Trump
will be holding a rally in Virginia. The Los Angeles Lakers are pairing Lebron

(23:40):
NBA Draft. Now, Ronnie andLebron will be the first father son duo
to play in the league at thesame time and on the same team.
A Montgomery County home fire this morningin Montgomery County, Fire and rescue officials
say that the incident was likely involvinga grill. Fire crews were called to
the two story home on Cochrane Courtfor a fire in the rear of the

(24:03):
house. Everyone inside was able toget out as damages spread throughout the both
floors of the building. DC fireofficials are urging city residents to be safe
when using fireworks. For the Fourthof July, young people shooting off Roman
candles were blamed for a fire ata southeast DC apartment building that displaced dozens

(24:26):
of families. The city's fire chiefsays illegal devices that shoot flames or launch
projectiles can easily cause injuries and sparkfires that spread quickly. Instacart's Flavors of
the Fourth report is out and hereis what people are going to be buying
for the upcoming holiday. Hot dogbuns, baby back ribs, potato salad.

(24:48):
On that list is charcoal and yellowcorn. Our forecast could not be
more beautiful today. Fabulous, fabuloussunshine, high of eighty five, low
humidity. Currently we are at sixtyseven in silver spring. Lots of talk
about fireworks today because the fireworks startin Earnest tonight. All over the DMV.
We're toby and chilly in the morning, ninety seven point one WASHFM.

(25:11):
So to keep the little pets inour lives safe, We'll talk to a
local veterinarian who's got some things weneed to remember. That'll help you pet
parents make sure that your pooches andcats and whatnot have a great Fourth of
July just like you. That's nextwith Toby and Chilly in the morning.
Lots of fireworks all over the DMVthis weekend, starting even tonight in some

(25:34):
places it's ninety seven point one WASHFM. Toby and Chilly in the morning,
Kat's and for Chili today. Andwe talked about taking care of the kids
in our lives a little bit ago. We've also got to take care of
as pet parents the pets in ourlives now. I have been blessed to
have had the same veterinary practice foryears since we were back on the other

(25:55):
station across the hallway, and thisman and his partners have watched my colleagues
pets. In fact, Kane isthe one who turned me on to them
when we got our dog Clover Maxwelland now with Nova Luna. His name
is doctor Gebel. Doctor Gebel, you're an institution. Welcome. How are
you this morning? I am great? How are you? Toby Friday?
How can you not be better goinginto a holiday week? Come on now,

(26:19):
I'm getting ready to go to thebeach right now. Well, let's
not take up too much of yourtime, but I wanted to ask you
what do we need to remember aspet parents to keep our dogs calm,
safe, cool and collected and enjointhe fourth of July like you at the
beach. The first thing I haveto note that fireworks are fun and exciting
for people, but they're terrifying forpets. The sound, the explosions in

(26:42):
that are very terrifying and they signifieddanger. Pets are naturally afraid of loud
noises and you can't talk them outof it, and they show some of
their signs by panting, shaking, grooing, barking, They run away,
they hide, they get lost, and they get hit by cars. So
what can you do as a petowner to alleviate that for your pets.

(27:04):
Number one is don't take them tofirework venues. Okay, so that would
be the number one. Number twoif stay home, keep them home.
If you have a fact that youknow is really a big problem in past
years, keep them in an indoorroom, keep them in the basement with
you, keep the shades down, you know, things like that, and
just give them lots of hugs. You can also try to distract them by

(27:26):
treats and tricks so distract them muchlike humans need to be distracted at times.
What about cats does the same apply. I can't answer that a whole
lot. I don't have that manycats that have called in and said they've
had a problem. But cats arenormally indoors. But there are ways to
do the same thing with them, just lots of hugs and treats and just

(27:47):
a safe place for them. Longstory short, don't take the pets to
the Gathersburg fireworks or the fireworks atthe country club or down to the Capitol
