Welcome to a brand new day anda brand new week. It's Monday morning,
the eighth day of July. Tobyand Chili in the morning, ninety
seven point one Wash FM, Welcomeback to the grind DMV. I'm feeling
good before five this morning, Chili, because honestly, I got to sleep
yesterday and I just took a dayto do a whole lot of nothing good
for you, a whole lot ofnothing. I can't travel like I used
(00:22):
to, and I hate, Ihate to sell like, oh I'm getting
older, because you know what, the only person who decides you're getting older
is the person you see in themirror. But man, it took me
a day to recover from all kindsof traveling for a lot of reasons.
Oh yeah, and we can getinto some of those later on. But
bottom line, it just felt goodto do nothing but recharge yesterday. How
(00:46):
are you. I'm doing great.Yesterday Actually, the last three or four
days in a row, we wereat the pool, enjoying, enjoying.
I don't know, it's pretty soupyhere. Yeah, I was watching me.
He it was. I mean,it was hot in Texas, but
it's a different kind of hot uphere it's hot with humidity, and it's
like, yeah, well, andtoday we've got a heat advisory from noon
(01:08):
until eight pm, a high ninetyfive. It's going to feel almost one
hundred and five. I mean,we're we're in it really intensely for many
days in a row. Here Iread something that said, like a majority
of the country is underneath some sortof heat kind of warning, weather related
warning, sort of a situation.Yeah well, I mean the converse is
(01:30):
true. It could be a blizzardand we could be under an Arctic frost.
People. Remember how you feel rightnow when it's negative ten degrees exactly
and we get that blizzard. Wehaven't had at a hot anyway. Yeah,
well, welcome to a brand newday. It is ninety seven point
one wash FM, Toby and Chillyin the Morning. Coming up in just
a few minutes, we'll talk alittle more about how we did the fourth
(01:53):
o July, the holiday weekend, and if you want to jump in eight
six six, nineteen seven forty threesixty one and the talkback micro on Wide
Open forties two. If you're listeningto us right now, signed into your
iHeart app. So let's talk aboutthe holiday weekend. And if you want
to chime into eight, six, six, nine two, seven forty three
sixty one is the number. We'reToby and Chilly in the morning here at
ninety seven point one WASHFM. Howwas your holiday week? And you alluded
(02:15):
to it a few minutes ago aswe got into things. You spent a
lot of time by the pool, you hung out in the soupy heat.
How else was holse did you celebratethe Fourth of July? Although fireworks were
being set off daily up actually untilSaturday, I saw not one single spark,
like we just heard them. Wedid not go anywhere, We did
(02:35):
not seek them out. And somebody, believe it or not, it was
not me called the police on.One of our neighbors was setting them off
in the middle of the day.So something wasn't right with that. Wow,
sorry, Well and if that wassomebody on the block, that's going
to create a rift on the block, now, oh yeah, it was
somebody in the cul de sign ReallyAnd does everybody know who called the po
(02:57):
po on the No, they're likehomes. Any one of them could have
been the collar of the police. But it was so random that they were
going off in the middle of theday. On Saturday, like daylight,
like noon like you couldn't even seethem. You could just hear the very
industrial sounding fireworks going off. Imean, what's the point exactly setting them
(03:17):
off in the middle of the day. I have a feeling. Here's my
theory. I think that they weregetting overheated and randomly firing off, If
that makes any sense. I don'tknow that. No, No, I
could see that being a problem.I mean, I was watching the news
while I was at my family's housein South Texas, and I noticed that
there was an accident on two seventyand the car caught fire, and that
(03:38):
fireworks were involved. Yes. Yeah, all I know is heat plus fireworks
can do ridiculous things. That's whyyou have to do things very very safely.
Yeah. And by the way,why they're mostly illegal around some parts
around you well speak of. Isit legal in Texas where you were?
Did you? Guys? Ends whereyou are? Yeah, my dad and
I did go out, and wedid stay up late, and we did
(04:00):
take a you know, responsibilities. There were a couple of twist and turns,
but we did a lot off somefireworks. Yes, the twist and
turns make for an interesting story, which we can get to later on,
but but you have to use commonsense. And common sense does not set
up fireworks in the middle of theday. No they don't. You can't
see anything that's that's okay, No, that's cuckoo for Cocoa PUBB next year.
(04:23):
That's the way you want to celebrateAmerica. You go ahead, because
somebody will be there to call thecops on you. On the block again.
It's ninety seven point one wash FM, getting back to the grind this
week. You might find that youneed a quick quote that'll help to get
your mind right. We can helpyour morning mindsets on the way and just

But here's the difference. We handpicked these quotes because we think about
you when we do, and wehope that maybe in some way they'll So,
what is it about today's quote thatmade you think of everyone? Well?
C. S. Lewis says, you are never too old to set
(05:06):
another goal or to dream a newdream. C. S. Lewis,
the author, You are never tooold to set another goal or to dream
a new dream. I don't knowabout utually, but I've encountered so many
people in life who I guess theyreach a certain age it could be anything
for anybody, and they feel like, well, I'm kind of, you
know, maybe a little too oldto make a change, or to do
(05:27):
something new, or to do somethingwhere I have to move to better mind.
Really, who says so you did? Somebody tell you this? Because
C. S. Lewis says you'renever too old to set another goal or
to dream a new dream, andnever too old. I mean that's pretty
black and white, crystal clear. You are never too old. So go
(05:48):
and make your dreams come true, even if you haven't lived them yet,
because that's what life is all about. If this helps you, or maybe
you know somebody who needs to hearit, find it the Toby and chilipagewhefm

you missed it, there is ahurricane that has made landfall on the Texas

Gulf Coast. I happen to havejust been in the Texas Gulf Coast,
and let me tell you something. The way that we prepare for something like
say a blizzard or a winter stormtotally different than the way they were preparing
for a hurricane storm prep? Whatgoes into it? What did I see?
Tell you? Because it was verytelling, no pun intended. We'll
(10:31):
get into that coming up in minutes. As Toby it Chillian. The morning
continues on this Monday, July eighth. I was your fourth July holiday.
We hope good. Ninety seven pointone wash FM Toby and Chilli in the
morning on this Monday, July eighth, at six twenty four in the nation's
capital, so chilly. We weretalking a little bit earlier. You know
that I spent the fourth of Julyto my family home in South Texas,
Corpus Christi, Texas. And beforeI left, what did I say,
(10:54):
Well, hopefully I'm not playing dodgehurricanes for the next few days. Well,
there was some DoD enough some hurricanes. It was surreal to see them
prepare for Wow, what has beencoming? Technically, Beryl made landfall just
early this morning, so you gotahead of it somewhat when you were there,
though they knew it was on itsway. So what does that look
(11:16):
like? They knew it was onits way, but they didn't know where.
But they knew enough to know thatyou needed to keep an eye on
things. When stuff got real waswhen I got the text from Southwest saying,
hey, your travel may be impacted. You might want to consider making
some changes. And that's when Ireally started to dig in, and that's
when I realized, Okay, thismight be a thing. So my dad
(11:41):
was telling me, and it wasall over the news down there. People
were going to like the home depotsand getting generators, they were going to
get free sandbags. I mean, you might have seen this stuff if you've
been to any of the beaches onthe Atlantic coast, because you know what,
these storms are a thing. Butwhat I wasn't used to seeing were
these highway information signs leading out toPond Island and Port Ransis and Corpus Christie
(12:01):
and points north of Corpus that saystorm has entered to the Gulf. Oh
prepare now? Oh good? Lookwhat does that mean? Prepare now?
Like for your parents, let's say, are they in an area or a
zone where they've got to get sandbagswhere they have to board things up or
not so much. Well, yougot to board things up because the wind
would be the biggest damage. Forlike my parents' house, they're far enough
(12:24):
off the water that they don't haveto worry about like a twelve foot storm
surge. But that's going to bea problem anyway, you know, because
roads will not be passable, youmight lose power, the wind could blow
things over. I mean, I'veI've written out hurricanes at the family house
before and they can be a veryscary thing. But after Hurricane Harvey like
(12:45):
wiped Port Ransis off the map almosta few years back, yeah, they
they ratcheted things up this time around. Were people like heating the warning about
what not going to Padre Island orleaving you know what I mean, like
evacuating, Like were they taking itseriously because there's so much people like raw,
I'll just be I've survived other storms, I can survive this. There
was a there was a bit ofthat, but the tourism that was going

on, it's like these tourists wereraging against the dying of the light.
They're like, oh, you're closingPort'rance's at noon on Sunday, Well,
we're gonna wait till eleven fifty nineand fifty nine on Sunday before we leave.
Let me tell you that's not me. The second they get the first
syllable of evacuate, I'm my god, I cannot. I'm out of here.
I'm not messing with it. Andthey're like, and it's like the

But up until that point, itwas nuts. It was crazy watching people

(24:00):
got back. Some people had likenine days off because of the way the
fourth of July fell. But ifyou went on a vacation last week,
or maybe you went on a vacationearlier, or maybe you're planning something all
inclusive, what's your take on theall inclusive experience? Chili in our hubs
made some discoveries while they were ontheir holiday that cruise they went on.
(24:22):
When it comes to all things allinclusive, they have a different point of
view and it's not necessarily in sync. What does this mean? You'll find
out next? Stay with us.You can always hop into a conversation you
hear with Toby and Chilly in themorning here at ninety seven point one,
wash out them by calling eight sixtysix. Wash out them. The number
(24:44):
one talk back microphone is always hopingfor you too. If you're signed in
listening on your iHeart app. Youtap that microphone. Sometimes it's easier just
to send a quick voice message. We get it in the studio, and
you do have a voice that countshere at ninety seven point one. Wash
at them. Let's talk about theall inclusive experien You went on a cruise
Chili. You said that you andyour husband have some differences when it comes
(25:06):
to all things all inclusive. Howcan you have differences when it comes to
all inclusive? We bought the beveragepackage and this includes SODA's, tea,
whatever, and of course the adultbeverages. Sure. So there are two
things I think psychologically that happens. One, you want to drink as much
or purchase as much of things asso that pays for itself. Yes.
(25:30):
And Two the way I look atit, Toby, is I want to
try all the things because it's alreadyquote unquote paid for right. Well,
you and I must see eye toeye on that, because I will tell
you that that's the point of theall exclusive experience. You know what you
like already, you know what youdon't like already. But if you see
some things, oh, look atthat, it looks tasty. Perhaps I'll
(25:52):
try that. That's my chance totry it. Let me have a sip
of this. Maybe I like it. Maybe, But now you've got kids,
a juice can add up. Myhusband does not see like you and
I see what happened the entire week. He ordered just two beverages, the
Angry Orchard and an Old Fashioned. And he did not budge from those.
(26:19):
I mean besides water and tea.But like he did not budge from those
adult beverages. I mean, thereare so many different cocktails on the menu,
There are so many different beerss Nope, no, sir. He just
sticks with what he knows. Itdoesn't matter if it's all inclusive. It
doesn't matter if it's not gonna costthem anymore. He's not budgeting. That's
(26:40):
when you become the laughing stock towhomever's waiting on you. Oh that's that
one guy from State Room sixty threeoh five only gets the orange Old Fashioned.
And then he's married to me,who looks around, walks up to
total strangers. What is that? That looks good? What's that called?
I want to try that next,Like I'd like to try all the different
things. Sometimes I go out ofmy way not to have the same thing
(27:03):
twice, whether it comes to foodor drink, because why all inclusive?
Yes, I want to do allthe things that are included. That's right.
I'm telling you. I would neverhave known about some of the beverages
that I've enjoyed most in life hadit not been for the all inclusive experience.
Yeah, I don't know. Ifeel bad. I said, you're
missing out. You really are missingout. I need to just sort of
(27:25):
branch out a little bit. Well, you know, how can you fix
this for next time you do anall inclusive sort of a thing. How
do you convince him that it's okayto explore new horizons You've already paid for

WASHFM hang out for a fee andnow it's time for a story that we
think might just make your Monday hereat ninety seven point one WASHFM with Toby
and Chile in the Morning. Amother and a daughter both took up an
activity, doing taekwon Do together atthe H. K. Lee Academy of
Taekwondo in Herndon. But let's justsay that one of the two took what
(28:55):
she learned and ran with it ina big inspiring way. Lena Kelly is
forty one years old, so whenshe and her six year old just three
years ago decided to take up taekwondo, she could not have imagined that she
would be winning a national championship, which is exactly what happened to her recently.
Pretty amazing stuff. She went inand she ran with this new hobby.
(29:19):
By the way, she signed upfor this Helena Kelly from Herndon with
her daughter just as something to dothey were taking three years ago with this
class in masks. Yeah, andnow she's competing in these national championships.
And she says it's because she spentyears studying dance growing up in Siberia.
(29:41):
That's what she thinks gave her theedge to win this national championship. But
it makes us all stop and think. I know that your morning mindset quote
I'm paraphrasing now, but it wassomething along the lines of you're never too
old to learn something, dream, dream a new dream. And for her
at forty one right now, toaccomplish this, I know that she probably
feels pretty great about it herself. And it's a lesson to all of us.
(30:03):
I mean, any hobby can turninto something greater than you could ever
imagine, right, And all ofthis happened after she won a third place
medal in sparring and then Boom nationalchampionship. Hers unbelievable story of resilience inspiring
that doesn't even do this story.Justice Elena Kelly from Herndon to you and

I are both in this whole likeradio, content, creation, sound everything,
