Now welcome to a brand new week at ninety seven
point one wash Chef m with Toby and Chili in
the morning, kat why are you feeling good before five
o'clock this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
I'm feeling good because my birthday was Friday.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Oh wow, and I have just been experienced so much
birthday love.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
It's great.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
My had some relatives yesterday show up and they actually
brought the whole lineup of food. When you're Filipinos, it's
pond seat, it's lumpia, it's food, food, food, and food,
and I love it.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, Taylor say, why are you feeling good before five
o'clock this morning?
Speaker 5 (00:44):
Well, I'm still very proud of my son. Yesterday he
just started swimming lessons, his third lesson. He's already treading
water all by himself, and I'm so.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Proud of him. Right on, make sure he wears goggles
in the pool though, Just because if you listen to
the show on Friday, you already know you already know me.
I'm feeling good this morning, because sometimes it takes that
significant other or that special someone to be able to say, hey,
you know what, this isn't you, but I love you
nonetheless and I'm gonna stand by you while you handle it.
(01:17):
My significant other came home from travel this week. We
spent some time this weekend, and she's like, yo, you're
letting the place get a little bit cluttered. And she's
right called me out. She's said, cluttered, cluttered house is
a sign of a cluttered mind. And I'm like, that's true.
You sound like my therapist. And she's like, well, you're
better than this, and I know you're better than this,
so handle it and if you need help, you let
me know. And she's like task master. So let's just
(01:40):
say that when she starts to handle things, I'll be
following orders and everything will be right with the world
once we blow through the clutter. Probably won't be till
my kid gets back to college, though, because well, you know,
having another person around more clutter. But it's little things
like that that make everything worth it all. Only Monday morning,
(02:01):
It's ninety seven point one WASHFM. Toby and Chilly in

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, Actually, I was.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
Working on the Eastern Shore and I was doing mornings,
and I was pregnant, and I had an hour and
a half commute, and I just got to the point
where I was driving.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
I was like, I gotta pull over.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
I need to sleep, and literally slept for three hours
in a four best Eva.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh my slubber, but I needed by sleep somebody come
wake you up. Knock on the window, ma'am Are you okay?
Good morning? You're like, yeah, I'm pregnant. Let me sleep,
Taylor shape producing everything here and tell me till you
in the morning. Strangest place you've fallen asleep.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Wise across the radio station control board.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I used to work overnights and we talked roughly every
ten minutes on the air. So I would, you know,
play a song, and then I would set my alarm
for nine minutes, put my head down and fall asleep
until I had to get back up and talk again.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
So micro naps, well, micro naps are a thing. I
found myself Friday falling asleep in front of my garage. Well,
how does that happen? Well, it happens a lot now,
just just exhaustion, just because we start going really early
in the morning and the data is an end for
me after you know, eight hours, I'm still grinding. So
(03:55):
lately it's been falling asleep at random places like that,
or sometimes nodding off at red lights. That's the worst,
especially when you get the tap of the horn to
wake you up. Oh, it keeps happening more and more
often lately, so I apologize to anybody have held up
by taking a micro nap behind the wheel at a
red light somewhere in Montgomery County or in the DMB.
(04:19):

Speaker 4 (04:57):
I like starting the day off with a positive mindset
with you, Toby, what are your words of wisdom?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Very kind? They're not my words of wisdom. They're Marcus Aurelius,
the Roman emperor, the Stoic philosopher says, and you might
need to hear this right now when you arise in
the morning, think of what a privilege it is to
be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love. It really
is a privilege to be alive. So, like Marcus Aurelius says,
(05:26):
when you get up in the morning, when you arrive
in the morning, think of what a privilege it is
to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love. That's
why we have every new day, and that's the promise
that a new sunrise brings. That concludes this hashtag Toby Talk,
otherwise known as your morning mindset from Marcus Aurelius. I
hope this helps you today as you prepare to take

Jennifer Lopez's cocktail line was part of the reason of
her marriage to Ben and Affleck being on the Rocks,
at least according to the Blacks to at least according
to the Blast, Affleck, a recovering alcoholic, was devastated when
Lopez launched her booze brand Lola, back in April of
(07:32):

his wife's involvement in the alcohol industry particularly challenging, and
he felt her indifference to the potential risks was hurtful.
Adele is not gonna let the show get in the
way of watching the twenty twenty fourth Summer Olympics. During
her concert in Munich on Saturday, the singer paused her
(07:55):
performance to watch the women's one hundred meter in Paris,
and of course, afterwards, Julian Alfred took home the gold medal.
Adele asked the crowd to give her a hand for
the accomplishment. The singer just started her ten night residing
residency in Munich, which ends on August thirty first.

Mctgoverery County Fire and Rescue says forty five members of
the Maryland Task Force one are headed to South Carolina,
and Fairfax Fire and Rescue is also sending forty five

But does Katie Ladeki will leave the Summer Olympics as
one of the most decorated female athletes ever. Ladeki received
(09:42):
the ninth gold medal of her career on Saturday, winning
the eight hundred meter freestyle. She is the first person
to win the same swimming event at four Olympics, and
she joins Michael Phelps as one of the only swimmers

the most gold medals of any female swimmer and has
(10:03):
tied the record for most gold in any woman's sport.
Ladecki said last week that she hopes to make the
twenty twenty eight US Olympic team. Today is I bet
you didn't know this National Underwear Day. And there are
a lot of factors that go into choosing just the
right pair of underwear. According to straw Poll, the top

number one is Tommy Hellfiger Weather. For today, it's gonna

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Some things along the way day today? Well, experts have
some ways we can fight back against this. We have
a few to add for you as well. We'll get
to that coming up here. At ninety seven point one,
Wash FM in the morning, stay with Oh I forgot?
Forgetfulness is a thing Toby and Tilly in the Morning.

found yourself guilty of forgetting something for whatever reason? What's
the story? Eight six, six, nine two, seven forty three

There are a lot of things that people forget. Katie
Harris playing the part of Tillium are and there are
ways you can boost your memory, working on training your brain,
(11:30):
different kind of games. Mnemonic devices can help moving your body,
getting up and walking around doing a workout. Number one,
they say is probably to prioritize getting enough sleep. That
doesn't happen around here.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
I was gonna say in this particular position.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
No, have you had anything like where you went to
space Cadet and totally forgot for whatever reason? Maybe it
was lack of sleep, could have been anything.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Oh, I definitely have one time I forgot it was
supposed to be on the air. Really no, no, seriously,
I got a call like minutes before the shift and
they're like where are you? And I'm like, oh, no,
that's right, I'm on the air total freak out mode.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
But yes, that has.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Oh yeah, man. No, there are times when I forget,
like things, I just stack them up somewhere and then
I forget that I like. It could be anything. It
could be like a random check for some sort of
side hustle. It could be gift cards. I just put
them somewhere, I forget that I have them, and then
when I remember, oh, I have them, sometimes it's too late.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
I know.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Sounds like a first world problem, but nonetheless, if I
was watching what I eat or playing some games, I
could be improving my memory and not blow it and
lose gift cards and stuff.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
But you know what's crazy is sometimes I will forget something.
But for me, when I'm laying down in bed going
to sleep, that's what I remember.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Yeah, why is that When you're falling asleep and there's
nothing you can do about it, then it just stresses
you out and you end up staying up because now
you're like, oh, I need to go find out and
make sure that didn't go like and expire, or oh,
I've kind of remember to handle that tomorrow, but I can't.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Now.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
It's just the.
Speaker 4 (13:01):

(18:54):
Chilly in the morning. It's Monday in the Nation's capital,
ninety seven point one. Watch that FM. Chilly's on vacations. OK,
he's in. Our producer is Taylor Shay who's here. And
you know it's funny. I think once upon a time
I was talking with your husband there, Taylor Shae, about
a time when you spent way too much money on something,
but you don't regret it. I think maybe he asked
me once when I got a car, if I had
(19:15):
buyer's remorse.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
No, his is Legos. He spends money on Legos and
does not regret it. I'm sure that the two of
you have gone on some Lego trips that I don't know.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I don't know if it's a Lego trip or what.
But I will say this, sometimes you can spend a
lot of money on something and it's worth it and
you have no apologies. So has this ever happened to
the two of you, ladies? And by the way, the
numbers eight sixty six wash FM one eight six six,
ninet two seven forty three sixty one if you're listening
right now and you want to jump in. Katie Harris.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
Years ago, when I had a little bit more money,
I dropped nine hundred dollars for a Japanese hair straightening
treatment where literally, for almost almost an entire year, I
did not have to do anything with my hair. I
take a shit, I'd just comb it out and it
would be straight, straight, straight, And it saved me so
(20:05):
much time.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
I didn't have to go to the hairstylist.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
It's like waking up every day with the perfect hair
and never having to do it.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Would you say, that's the best nine hundred dollars you
ever spent that you'll never get back, But you know what,
I'd do it again.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yes, absolutely well.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
I should have done that instead because I bought a wig.
I have some medical hair loss and when I went there,
the sticker price was a little shocking, but I ended
up getting one anyway, and I love it. I feel
great when I wear it. Not cheap, but I don't
regret it.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Hmmm, interesting, that is very interesting.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
What about you, Toby.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
For me, it's the fact that I bought a new
car with about every piece of technology you could put
in it at the time. That's very on brand for you. Yeah,
but this was a long, long time ago. I had
four original miles on it. I then bought it out,
well first I leased it, then I bought out the
least to buy it, and it's still fine. Now Here's
(20:59):
the thing. May not be worth as much as it
used to be worth because it's got a lot of
miles on it, but it's still holding up. And the
only reason why is because our future proved it. So
I apologize for spending the money that I spent on it.
Sometimes I wish I had it back, but I don't
miss the car payment because I don't have one anymore.
And everything's fine. Knock on what I didn't just jinx it,
(21:21):
So I'm doing all right in that department. Have you
ever spent a bunch of money on something and you
have no regrets? What's your story? Talk back. Microphones open.
If you're signed in right now listening to ninety seven
point one was Chef, I'm on your iHeart app. You
can tack that microphone. Tell us the story sometimes that easier,
is easier, call us if you want to. At eight
sixty six was Chef and the number one. More of
(21:43):
your story's on the way after eight about something you
spent a ton of money on and you know what,
no buyer's remorse around here? What was it? We can't
wait to hear in the meantime. Coming up in just
about fifteen minutes or so, a story that we think
might just make your Monday. It has to do with fostering,
fostering and changing lives in the DMV. There's a woman
(22:03):
who is making some noise by fostering these kids. We'll
tell you all about it coming up now. It's not
for a story that we think might just make your Monday,
Toby and Chilly in the morning. It's ninety seven point
one WASHFM. Allow us to introduce you to Lynda Cheeks.
If you don't know Linda Cheeks, you need to get
to nowhere because she is quite the foster parent.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Yes, she has been named foster parent of the Year.
I would say her story is just amazing, Toby. Could
you believe over the last fifteen years she has fostered
twenty kids, most of them teenagers.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
That is unbelievable. Now Cheeks was surprised to get this honor,
to be named the number one foster parent by the
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, not just Prince William County,
but all things DMV. She says, when you're going about
your business every day, you never even think about it.
(22:57):
She never thought about the fact because she's busy all
the time fostering these kids.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
She has said that the one thing, the one lesson
she wants her kids to learn is giving up is
not an option.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Linda Cheeks says, you have to love people who do
this work. She goes, that's my thing. I think everybody
is important. Does she plan to retire one day? One day,
but she says that's way too far into the future.
She says she doesn't have an end date. She's going
to just try to do the best that she can
for each person she fosters. You're only is old as
(23:30):
you feel, she says, So she's going to do what
she continues to do and because she does it so well.
It's a story that we wanted to share with you
because it made our Monday, and we hope that it
makes yours too. Linda Cheek's the number one foster parent
in the DMV, according to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
If you want to read her story and maybe following
