one wash Out.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
There's always something to feel good about, even before five
o'clock in the morning. Toby and Chilly in the Morning
at ninety seven point one wash FM. What is that
for you? Eight six, six, nine, two seven forty three
sixty one. Feel free to call if you want to
jump in and tell the class what it is that's
got you feeling some sort of way as you get
up early to start this brand new day.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Chili, what's going on that's good in your world?

Speaker 4 (00:28):
I gotta be honest, nothing's coming to mind at the moment.
That's just so basic. I guess I didn't have to
deal with construction traffic.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh yeah, there was an accident two on two seventy,
but that was headed south I think, yes, on.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
An overpass, so it didn't affect me going home. Yesterday
was a different story. My goodness, the rubber nicking. Yeah,
they overturned doctor trailer. But yeah, yeah, seventy the beltway
was a nightmare I heard yesterday.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yes, how about you.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'm feeling good because out of nowhere, a blast from
the past who's lived here for a while, showed up.
We used to work together down in Tampa and she
worked with one of our bosses and myself, and she
came by yesterday and it was really good to see her.
And she works for a GSA now, so she's been

(01:15):
with GSA for like a decade. But it was just
it was one of those things where they walk up
on you and you had to do like a triple take.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I was like, wait a minute, really, And.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
You know what's great about those encounters, It's as if
no time has passed, right.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, do you just sort of pick up where you
left off.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
As if decades or years haven't gone by.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I think that was one of the compliment. Her name's Lamosa.
She used to work with us, and she walked up.
I go, I see your shoe game is still on point.
She's like, oh, you know how I do. And I'm like,
you know, it's been a while, but yes, some things
are not changing exactly. It was just kind of a cool,
out of nowhere sort of a thing. So anyway, there's
always something to feel good about this morning. If you're

(01:54):
feeling good, talk back. Microphone's wide open too. If you're
Sunday to your iHeart app Tap that microphone with the
circle around it, tell us in thirty seconds or so,
why you're feeling good this morning. In the meantime, coming
up in just a few minutes, you know, there was
a big Monday night football game, Commanders over the weekend.
Football season is back, and then there's college football, which
means appetizers. What's your favorite to see at parties? We'll

(02:19):
get into this coming up in minutes. Good morning, what
is your favorite appetizer to see it? Parties? Tis the
football season? Tis college football season. Can't forget about hockey
getting started up. Baseball is in full effect, which means
lots of watching sports on TV, which means lots of appetizers.
But I doubt that anybody's seen anything quite like this.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
This Texas market revealed a charcuterie board that's over one
thousand pounds of snacks in it. Now, I watch that
TikTok video and I love me a charcuterie board, but
that does not look very healthy. And people touching all
that stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
It's gluttony for the sake of being gluttonous.

Speaker 4 (02:59):
I know maybe they're trying to break some sort of record,
but I do love me as sharkuity board if it
wasn't going to be a sharcuity board at a party. Though,
I am a huge fan of just brie, baked brie
with some good quality crackers. I'd like to keep it
in the cheese family.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
What about you, by the way, Toby and Chilly in
the morning, It's ninety seven point one wash FM. In Texas,
there's a place called h B which is like Wegmans
on human growth hormones. It's massive and they make incredible
stuff for tailgating. They have a brisket dip which is
just insane.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Brisket dip.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yes, brisket dip, that's my favorite app at parties, but
not a thousand pounds of brisket dip. I mean, we're
talking about feeding people for weeks eight six, six, ninety two,
seven forty three sixty one. Michael, good morning in Kensington.
What's your favorite appetizer at a party?

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
I absolutely love mushroom gaps, stuffed mushroom gaps.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
And if a party has got stuffed.

Speaker 6 (03:58):
Mushroom cups, that is a sign that that's gonna be
an amazing party.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
You know, that's a really good one.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
But you don't see it that often because maybe it's
a little too laborious for people.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Although when you do, it's usually filled with like crab
or something you.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Know, yeah, or good cream cheese.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Oh that's yoh, now we'll go all right, now we
need to make some mushrooms later on today, Julie, good
morning in Fairfax.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Your favorite appetizer?

Speaker 5 (04:22):
I really love chicken fingers, chicken wings like dry rub.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Julie, You're right, the dry rub is the way to
go because the sauce gets very messy.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Well, you'll have these things when it comes to appetizers,
but a thousand pounds worth of aapetizers, that'd be one
thousand pounds of mess Julie, thanks for jumping in this
morning eight six, six, nine two seven forty three sixty one.
What's your favorite appetizer at parties? Feel free to give
us a call or to leave us a message via
talkback if you're signed into your iHeart app and coming

Speaker 4 (05:06):
What is the quote for the Morning Mindset today.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
From Mother Teresa otherwise known as Saint Teresa. To have
courage for whatever comes in life. Everything lies in that.
To have courage for whatever comes in life, everything lies
in that, says Saint Teresa, otherwise known as Mother Teresa.
It's true. Life can be scary at times, daunting at times.

(05:28):
Things that are out of control, out of your control,
tend to be. But you know what, You've got to
have the courage for whatever may come, because in that
courage is everything, everything to living the best life. So
keep that in mind as you go through today. If
you know somebody who needs it, feel free to share it.
You'll find it on the Toby and chillipage at washefm

Speaker 4 (06:06):
The Secret Service as the man who suspected in an
attempted assassination of former President Trump did not fire any shots.
The FBI confirmed the suspect was at the scene for
twelve hours before the event unfolded. Fairfax County Police shot
and killed a thirty three year old woman yesterday after
she slashed an officer in the face with a knife

(06:29):
inside her rest and apartment. So police were conducting a
welfare check because of concerns about her mental health, and
she attacked the officer after she opened the door. That
officer repeatedly warned her to step back, and when she didn't,
he opened fire. A sixty six year old woman in
critical condition after she was stabbed while just sitting on

(06:50):
a bench outside the Friendship Height's metro station just after
nine o'clock yesterday morning, and thanks to a witness who
saw what happened, police were a to take that suspect
into custody. They say the suspect and the victim did
not know each other. Prince George's County Police are offering
up to a twenty five thousand dollars reward for information

(07:12):
following the deadly shooting of thirty five year old Carlos
Orties over the weekend. He was found suffering from gunshot
wounds in a wooded area and according to the book
Algorithms to Live By the Computer Science of Human decisions. Apparently,
the best age to get married is twenty six. According
to that algorithm, your quality of options goes down after

(07:34):
that age. Incidentally, the median age that American women get
married is twenty eight, and it's thirty for men. Forecast
for today cloudy with scattered showers. Highs around seventy six
right now sixty six in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Would you pay a membership fee to go hang at
the place where you enjoy your coffee? That's right, your
coffee shop. What if they charged you for hanging there? Well,
there's a place doing just this will tay you where
and we'll share some thoughts coming up with Toby and
Chili in the Morning. Stay with ninety seven point one WASHFM,
Bora or another one of those superstars you'll see at

(08:08):
our iHeartRadio Music Festival starting on Friday, Dua Lipa. It's
ninety seven point one WASHFM, Toby and Chili in the Morning.
This story comes to us from the website Your Tango
out of New York.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
There is a.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Coffee shop that is talking about charging customers a membership
fee of ten dollars a day or.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Thirty dollars a month or three hundred dollars a year
if you want to roll up in there and sit
with your laptop.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
And do like work from wherever, like work from anywhere
kind of a thing.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
The woman who posted this on TikTok was upset because
she's coming from a place of Look, I spent nine
dollars for a beverage and then I go to a
table with my laptop and there are these signs now
that say ten dollars for a day, And she thinks
that that's kind.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Of uncalled for.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
I get why it's annoying when people just hang out
all in a coffee shop. I think they should spend
money there, They shouldn't just be able to hang out there.
But I really wish if coffee shop owners want people
to not stay all day, that they enforce some sort
of a time limit instead of charging them for it.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Well, I think if you were to charge a membership fee,
I would want to know that I was going to
be left alone because I'm already paying that fee in
addition to whatever I'm paying for the coffee. I see
it as a way to keep the riff wrath out,
You know what I mean? Because there are people who
I know, and we all know that we'll go into
a coffee shop and they will camp there for hours, yeah,

(09:33):
and hours, So.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Maybe you just say minimum, you should spend fifteen dollars
on product if you want to hang out here all day.
The whole membership part is what makes it feel icky
at least, But then again, they're clearly doing it, and
people who want to go will go.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
It's kind of like, you know, going to an airport lounge.
People will pay for the right to have an airport
lounge so that they can kill time being productive, having
some beverages, doing whatever they do. It does come with
a con. But is that like going to a coffee
shop where you're paying nine dollars for a cup of coffee.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
It seems like a good idea if it's gonna keep
the traffic moving through the place.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
And I should say, this is not a chain place.
This is a mom and pop coffee place in New
York City. Okay, it's in Grammercy, I think. So it's
not like a Starbucks doing this, because then I think
we would feel some really some sort of way if
it was a corporate place doing this.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Well, sure, but now you make me think that this
is even more okay, because if it's boutiki and you
like it, you know, then you're gonna pay to be there.
The golden rule applies. But anyway, those are our thoughts
on this whole thing. If you've got some talkback microphones
always open. If you're sund into your iHeart app, you
can tap speak and send us a voice note. You'll

(10:49):
see that microphone with a circle around it. We love
it when you.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
Do Kelby and Chilly's nearly impossible question, and we love it.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
When you play this game to win. What's the question today?

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Okay, So the oldest recipe he ever found is five
thousand years old? And what is it for? So I

Speaker 2 (11:52):

Speaker 7 (12:02):
Yes, sir, it's beer.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
They've been making it since the beginning of time, five
thousands of years ago.

Speaker 7 (12:08):
Thank god they've honed the recipes.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
Have you brewed your own beer at home?

Speaker 7 (12:12):
I love doing it. I'm actually just ordering a couple
more recipes today.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Really, Oh, now you've got us.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
No, it's a thing because I remember reading during the
global pandemic of shutdown things, people took that up as
a hobby, making their own pandemic brew.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Yes, I will be impressed if you say you make
hard cider as well.

Speaker 7 (12:33):
But I do well, and actually I use a little
bit of a brandy and that it turned out pretty good.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Tom, You're like the kind of friend we all need
to have because you bring the party with you, because
you brew.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Your own stuff.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, sure, Well I don't know that they're going to
let you take any of your own hoots with you

Speaker 3 (13:06):

Speaker 8 (13:08):
You know that takes too long. I just don't have
the patience since like it tasts like six to.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
Nine months to make me.

Speaker 8 (13:14):
Actually, my wife and I we went to the Renaissance
Festival in Maryland this past weekend and I forget a
new dream called they called beasting and it's a little
bit of meat insider mixed in. But I didn't try it.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
I show what it is.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Listen to you. You're like the expert. What do they
call you? Like a beer somlee.

Speaker 7 (13:31):
It's a lot of fun. It's like a science project.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Only with more kick. Yes, more passes. Tomorrow with your
nearly impossible question. The news on the way in minutes.

The man suspected in an attempted assassination of former President
Trump did not fire any shots. The acting Secret Service Director,
Ronald Rowe said that suspect Ryan Routh was unable to
get a single shot off and praise the quick actions
of his team. Sean Ditty Combs was taken into federal

what charges he's facing, but the arrest comes following the
multiple lawsuits filed against Ditty that alleged sexual assault, as
well as an ongoing federal investigation. Brendan Banfield, a thirty
nine year old resident of Herndon, has been indicted for

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Have a family member that got a job, and you
took advantage of their friends and family discount. So my
daughter started her new job at Target. Yes, that's right,
and people are lining up coming out of the roadwork
for that friends and family discount. We'll explain more coming
up in minutes. As Toby and Chilly in the Morning
continues on a Tuesday seven at ninety seven point one

(15:56):
Wash FM on this Tuesday, September seventeenth, You're waking up
with Tobey at Chilly in the Morning. Daughter kind of
got her first job, first real paying job in Boston
where she's going to college at Emerson at Target, and
what's not to love about making a target run and
done well. She apparently has been transitioning into the job well.

(16:17):
But here's the thing that was just so crazy. As
soon as she told us in a group chat that
she got this job at Target, the first responses weren't congratulations,
are so.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Proud of you?

Speaker 2 (16:28):
They were like, wooho, friends and family discount Christmas?

Speaker 4 (16:33):
Heck, yeah, that's the best part about having a friend
or family, especially a daughter working at a place like
a targe.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
But I don't know if I feel okay about that, and.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
It really offers it to you guys.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Well, if she offers it, that's fine. But for us
to make an assumption that you know your friends and family, well,
we're family, so we get your discount at.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Target, you can make that assumption.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
You're the dad, really, yes, but other tertiary people should not.
As the father you raised her, yes, your automatically should
be like, listen, I'd like to take advantage of whatever
discount you may have.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Yeah, that's the least she can do.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
She can like give me some of my college investment
back in the form of friends and Family savings at
tar Jay.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Hey, my mother did it with me. I worked at
Tuesday Morning in Vienna when I was in high school
and I was ready to go try something else, and
she wouldn't let me quit. She loved coming in there,
rolling up and using the discount. Hey, you know what,
she made a valid point. I was like, fine, fine,
but I get to keep the paycheck, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
And so then when you went to move on, she
was like, no, you cannot move on to a new
job because I get your I mean, you need that discount.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
I mean I need the discount.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
But we would have been fine if it was like
a department store, like a mo C's or at that time,
hex like she wanted a place where she would also benefit.
And I'm sure that's not the only thing. You know,
only time parents have done that where you've encouraged your
child or friend or family to take a job somewhere so.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
You could Hey, I don't know. If you've got thoughts,
feel free to jump in. Eight sixty six nineteen seven
forty three sixty one. That's eight sixty six wash FM
the number one Friends and Family discounts are you one
of these people that's like, don't ever quit that job
unless you get another retail job, because I need your
friend and family discount? Do you feel entitled to it?
You can also tap the talkback microphone if you've got thoughts.

(18:20):
You're signed into your iHeart app. Sometimes it's easier. You
just press the microphone with the circle around it. Tell
us in thirty seconds or less, what's on your mind,
Friends and family discounts thoughts. We'll get back to this
coming up as Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues,
But next into the one of your crazy first d aid stories.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
Dan and Manassas wound up in a cemetery searching for
his date the date's grandmother.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
How does that become the makings of a first date?
Keyword crazy. You'll hear it coming up in minutes.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
Stay right there, it's Toby and Chilli's crazy first.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Day Morning, Dan and Monesas we hear you got a
crazy first.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Date story, lay it on this.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Back in nineteen ninety three, I met this girl at
a restaurant that we both worked at. At one point
she had expressed interest in going ice skating, so I said,
oh sure, I'll thank you ice skating sometimes, So we
started up that we're going to meet at a restaurant. Unfortunately,
I was actually very late to go pick her up,
so much showed that she started to leave the restaurant,
kind of giving up on me, which is when I
actually showed up finally, so we did get going. We

(19:21):
got there so late that we couldn't stay too long.
But after that we decided to try and get some dinner.
There wasn't much else open around, so we decided we
probably couldn't get food. Everything had kind of not gone
great to this point, that maybe just take me back home.
We were driving home, we happened to pass by a
cemetery when she suddenly yelled, stop, I have to go

(19:41):
in here. My grandmother's buried here and I hadn't seen
her grave in a long time, so I did. We
went ahead and went into the cemetery, searched for a while,
gave up after a while, and finally just took her home.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
And that was the end of it.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Did you guys ever try a redo since nothing seemed
to be going your way at first day?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Yeah, we did end up going on other date, and
and in fact we're actually married now and we've now
been married for twenty four years.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
What made her give you a second chance? Did she
ever tell you?

Speaker 6 (20:12):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
That's a good question. She had kind of left me
for a while, and you like me and I liked
her too for sure.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Oh that she is. Put her on the phone here, ma'am,
what's your name?

Speaker 9 (20:23):
Hi?

Speaker 2 (20:23):
It's Christie, Christian Manassa's wife of this Dan. Did Dan
have you because he went to see your grandmother at
the gravesite this cemetery?

Speaker 9 (20:34):
I guess when I thought about it later, that was
a good thing. But I kind of only went to
the cemetery because the date was going so badly. I
really thought, in my head, I'm never going to see
this guy anymore. So I don't know when I'm ever
going to be around this area again. He didn't say
that I had driven two hours to go out on
this date, and when I happened to see the cemetery,
is like, well, at least I can redeem something from
a date that's going so badly. But I guess I

(20:56):
do believe in second chances.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
And when I saw him later, I thought, I know
he did kind of.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
Put up with that, all that effort, that he made
to find your grandma's gravestone, despite screwing up all the
other moments, is going to pay off for you guys.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Let's just hope you guys are on time when you
go to.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
Duran Duran at CFG Bank Arena October twenty eight.

Speaker 9 (21:19):
I will be in charge of the time, in charge
of the life that day.

Speaker 6 (21:23):
I'll make sure that we are on time.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Will you do that, ma'am?

Speaker 2 (21:26):
And if you want to see Duran Duran, We've got
even more tickets for you right now.

When it comes to friends and family discounts, we'll get
back to this in just a few minutes. Are you
entitled to of them because a member of your family
has one? I mean that they're called friends and family
discounts for a reason. Or is it something you should
probably leave well enough alone. Have you ever had a
friends and family discount that somebody just wouldn't let you
quit your job over because that discount was too good.

(23:41):
We'll talk about it again in minutes at eight sixty

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Jimmy living in New Carrollton, good morning. You say you've
had this happen to you.

Speaker 6 (24:22):
I used to work for an airline and had a
friends and family discount.

Speaker 7 (24:28):
So once everybody.

Speaker 6 (24:29):
Found out that they could fly really cheap, I was
getting called from everybody in my family like two or
three times a month. Some of them were like, hey,
you know, do you go to Hawaii? And some of
them were like places that were, you know, two or
three hours away.

Speaker 7 (24:43):
It's like just drive or whatever.

Speaker 6 (24:44):
But everybody was all over me, and it got to
the point where if I had to tell them no,
they actually got angry with me, like I wanted to
quit my job.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
Geez, I can't believe they won't take no for an answer.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
New Carrollton, Jimmy, I don't know that I would have
quit my job over at Hopefully you made it through,

Arlington this morning, what's up?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (25:09):
I heard y'all were talking about friends and family discounts
and it brought up some memories. So when I worked
at this big concert.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Venue, Oh I know where this is going. As you
can imagine.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
I mean, like everybody was hitting me up, but not
for a discount. They thought I could get them free
tickets to concerts, which yeah, right, But it was just
kind of hilarious, like all these people I hadn't heard
from and so long. They're like, oh my gosh, I
heard cold place coming to town, Like can you hook
me up?

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Like what? Look you up with a hello? That's about it.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
And that's being gone over in Travilla, Seth. What's going on?

Speaker 6 (25:46):
My friends and family always try to cash in on
my discount at Starbucks. I mean, I get it, you're
a cup of coffee five dollars, but they're always asking
me to give them free coffee, free three pounds of
coffee anytime they come into the store where it's really
getting out of hand.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Look, I'd never asked you to steal, but hey, if
you want to be a little heavy handed on the
pumpkins space, that's on you.

Speaker 7 (26:07):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
