Speaker 3 (00:06):
On ninety seven point one WASHEFM Welcome to Tuesday, the
eighth day of October.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Today.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
I'm feeling good before five because you know, I've never
done this before, and I've been in town since two
thousand and six. Oh, I've never used the public restrooms
that aren't really public. You have to ask for permission
to use them at metro stations before. And I just
wanted to say that there's no harm in asking.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
And they will say yes.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
And it's kind of a game changer because how many
times have you been on the metro and you've like
really just felt the spirit of move you never you know,
I mean, it's happened. It happened to me over the weekend,
and I'm like, you know what, Oh, I saw something
on the news they said, you know what, don't be
afraid to ask. I asked and the woman was like what.

(00:54):
I apologize. I said, sorry for interrupted. She's like, you're human, right,
and I go last. So, if you have the spirit
hit you today and you're commuting to work and something
has to be done, ask because they will more than
likely say yes.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
So the joy part comes in the accessibility of it
or the cleanliness of it.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
I'm not a cleaning successibility and just being thankful that
we have them at our disposal if you're not afraid
to ask, How about you?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Why are you feeling good before five o'clock this morning?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
I am feeling good because I'm thinking we're getting awfully
close to fire pit season.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Oh, that's already here.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Because it has to be a certain lows at night
to really justify the fire pit. And in my mind,
it's got to be at least in the fifties consistently
for fire pit to come out. That's all I'm saying, not.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Like one off here, one off there.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
But it looks like we're gonna have some pretty consistent
nights of fifties.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
So fire up the solo stove or whatever you might have. People. Yeah,
fire pit season is here.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
That means more season is here, which means which means
I'm gonna have to go up to Hershey just to
go to have some snores because they have a huge
fire pit up there.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Anyway, why are you.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Feeling good this morning? The numbers eight, six, six, nine
two seven forty three sixty one. Doesn't have to be
any specific reason. Anything can bring you joy, so feel
free to embrace in it as you start your day.
Embrace it as you start your day. Toby and Chilly
in the morning, it's ninety seven point one wash CHEFM.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
We're coming up next.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
We've got somebody who left a message for us on
our talk back. We're gonna listen to it and see
what she had to said.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Toby and Chilly in the morning. It is ninety seven
point one wash CHFM. Talkback is so much fun. If
you don't have it, you need to sign up for
the app right. Make sure you've got it. It's for
its favorite app store, then create an account. Then you'll
see the microphone in front of you. It's surrounded by
like this circle. You tap it, you leave a message
much like Todd, did I understand? Todd is from Fairfax
this morning. Todd would like to share this with the class.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
I'm thinking about getting rid of my TV and just
doing straining app so I don't really watch live TV anymore.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
The friend day that I never.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Know when I'm going to need it, so it's just
too expensive to keep around for super rare occasions.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Right on, lots of people talking about ways to cut back.
And that's something that I've heard many people discussing. Do
you actually need your television at home, your cable box,
your big setbox that's been the same for like twenty
something years thoughts uh, that would.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Be a very big no for me. I'm not getting
rid of the television. We have one on every floor.
Don't make it sound spoiled. Some of them are older.
I can't imagine not watching live sports. I know streaming
is out there, but for me, it's a it's a no.
I'm not getting rid of the TV.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
I think you can because like now, these cable companies
they have their own stream boxes and this it is live,
it's in real time.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
It's just a dedicated app.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
So you're with Todd.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I am with Todd because apps have become the new
TV channels, and there are certain channels you don't watch
and you never watch them and you just have them
as a result of whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
So why pay more?

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Why not just pay for what you need need, you know,
And that's one of the things that I see them
shifting to.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
So there you go, Todd. On either side of the equation,
you're not wrong. You're not right.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
You're just trying to save money and there's nothing wrong
with that. And if you want to leave us a
talk about message, feel free to do so. It's easy
if you're signed into your iHeart app, Tap Speak send,
We'll get it here. And who knows, we could be
talking about what's on your mind coming up later this
morning with ninety seven point one Washchef, m Toby and
Chilly in the morning on this Tuesday, you might need

(04:30):
something that will set your mind right as we get
ready for a brand new day. Your morning mindset is
on the way in minutes hang out. There are people
who might need a little something to help them get
their day started. That's where hopefully this comes in. Ninety
seven point one Washeff, and we call this your morning mindset.
Words that we hope might give you that little bit
of extra something to get into a brand new day.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
And what are the words that you have found today
to share with everyone.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
From the great poet Robert Frost, the great writer Robert
Frost says, the best way out is always through. The
best way out is always through. Maybe you want to
get to where you're going, Maybe there's someplace else you
would like to do, or something else that somebody might
you know, be on the fence about considering asking you

(05:16):
to do well. Remember, the best way to get to
that point is to go through whatever might be in
your way. The best way out of whatever situation you're
in is to go through it. The best way out
of a problem you're in is just to go through it.
To paraphrase something I heard in the locker room, once
put on the helmet, put on your pads, tighten them up,
and press on. There you go, Robert Frost. The best

(05:37):
way out is always through. Hopefully that helps you get
through whatever you're facing today. And if it helped you,
it might help somebody else. You can find it and
share it. The Toby and Chilipage washfm dot com. Next

(09:56):
you're signed in, just tap that microphone leave your thoughts
on this. Here's the headline at ninety seven point one.
Watch FM Toby and Chilly in the Morning, retired Australian pair.
They're great grandparents. They spent almost five hundred days at
sea on fifty one street cruises because apparently this was
cheaper than going to a retirement home.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Well wow, I didn't realize retirement homes were that expensive.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Oh they can be.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
I mean I think of a cruise as being an
expensive sort of a proposition.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
It all depends. They were major cruisers as a couple,
even before they retired or got into retirement. So for them,
they just thought they would try this out. Look, I'm
a fan of cruising, but fifty one consecutive cruises is
a bit of an overkill thing for me. That is
not an ideal situation, at least for me in retirement.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
See, I could do that, I mean, I could do
a fifty I can spend all these days at sea.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Because here's the thing. At a retirement home.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
I mean, it's kind of like like we were talking
before we turn on the microphones. You know, it's kind
of like being on a cruise ship, only you're not
on a.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Cruise, right.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
There's so many activities, activities, you have food, things, but
it comes at a cost.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Right.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
So for me, if I'm gonna pay that kind of cost,
I'd want to be able to see the world that
experience different cultures and different food and different activities in
different places. What do they call them again, those excursions? Yes,
those excursions going you know, for the same amount of money,
I mean.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
Or less money. But the downside is you don't have
the community you do in a retirement home, like you
have your same friends that you go play bunko with.
You have the same people that you go to the
mall with on the shuttle or whatever. On a cruise
there keep churning new people every week. You don't get
to establish that kind of friendship.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
But then I wouldn't get bored because oh it's Tuesday,
I'm gonna go have bunko with Toby. You know, Oh
it's Wednesday, let's go have Wait, let's go have dinner
with Wendy.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
I don't look forward to staying and I hope we
can afford it in one of those retirement communities, because
to me, it just seems like so much fun to
wake up and just decide what am I eating today?

Speaker 2 (12:04):
What am I doing today?

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Well, I'll make sure I look you up next time.
I'm at the Baltimore Port of Call. Hey, I'm close by.
I'm in Baltimore at the closest to cruise port. I'm
on retirement.

Speaker 2 (12:13):

Hurricane Milton is a Category four storm and is forecaster
to make landfall along Florida's west coast late tomorrow or
early Thursday. Meanwhile, the White House says FEMA has the
funding needed to respond to Milton, as well as the
ongoing recovery and rebuilding effort after Hurricane Helene. Sadness and
reflection marking the first anniversary of a deadly attack that

(14:44):
left more than a thousand people dead in Israel, several
hundred people attended an event on the National Mall yesterday,
while others were part of a gathering at Meridian Hill
Park last night, and a pro Palestinian student group also
held a gathering on the University of Maryland campus well.
The Washington Capitals have a variety of activities plan to
celebrate the team's fiftieth anniversary during the upcoming season, including

(15:07):
a kickoff event that's happening this Thursday. The fifty Fest
will include all of the Capitol's current players, plus a
variety of former players, and a concert by Third Eye
Blind And. According to a recent survey, sixty five percent
of Americans saw their first horror movie before they turned eleven,
and seventy three percent still love them till this day now.

(15:30):
During the Halloween season, they watch an average of five
scary movies and favorite genres are supernatural and parent normal movies.
Forecast for today it is going to be beautyful, sunny
seventy the high right now forty nine and rest in.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
Eight six six nine two seven forty three sixty one.
That's the number one to hear from you this morning.
If there's a side hustle that you wish you would
have gotten into back when it was trendy. When we
say side hustle, it doesn't mean like meal delivery or
ride share. It could mean, you know, blogging back in
the day. It could mean making your own home videos
and movies. Doing different things back in the day, could

(16:07):
be investing in something back in the day. What was
it for you? We'll talk about this and more. Coming
up is Toby and Chilly in the want to continue.
It seems Generation Z has a new side hustle. You
might want to hear about her. Maybe you've already heard
about it, but let's talk about it anyway. Eight sixty
six Wash FM. The number one eight six six nine
two seven forty three sixty one where Toby and Chilly
in the morning at ninety seven point one Wash FM.

(16:29):
This new Gen Z side hustle is basically they are
renting out a place to live and then they're turning
around and sub letting said place to live out in
order to make money on Airbnb and Verbo in these
home sharing spots.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Wow, that's impressive. I mean that's kind of like the
long story short. Is there anything I'm missing in that? No,
that's about it.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
They are sub letting their rentals and making bank on
Airbnb because they can charge more than what they currently
pay for their place.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
I don't know about you, but that just seems like
a lot of work.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Ah. You know what if there is a return on
investment that you put in the work, and there are
certain trends that if people get in early enough and
they're one of the first to do it, then they
could make a killing financially.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Well, I mean true.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
And if you're making a killing financially, you get somebody
else to take care of the Airbnb things they clean.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
Yeah, somebody else property and all of that stuff.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Is there some sort of a trend like this, because
this seems like this is at the beginning of the
trend or it's been coming for a minute. Is there
something similar to this that you wish you would have
gotten involved.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
The whole poshmark thing, And if you don't know what
it is, basically people sell their clothing online, I mean
their pre owned clothing, and they make enough money that
they can afford rent or they can afford even new clothes.
And I wish that I had gotten in on it
earlier because now there's just so many people doing that
on Facebook, market, Poshmark, there's so many different sites where

(17:54):
they're selling their goods and making really good money. Is
there something that comes to mind for you?

Speaker 3 (17:59):
I mean, I have something personally, but it's not as
great as what my brother's side hustle is my brother,
my twin younger twin brother, Zachary and Zeke. If you
didn't know it, that's their legitimately, that's their name, Zachary
and Zeke, and they're they're twins and they love vinyl,
vintage vinyl, like records like we're talking about before, h
tracks and cassettes and CDs even so, I don't remember

(18:21):
exactly when they got into it, but they started buying
them up and then they started selling them. Then they
found a community of people that were like them that
wanted to buy vintage vinyl. And now they've turned it
into a storefront in San Antonio, Texas. People come from
around the country to go see what they've got, and
then they order vinyl that they find from around the world.
And I've heard some of their stories that I can't

(18:43):
believe it, and they just love doing it. So they say,
if you find what you love, you never work a
day in your life. They found a side hustle that
they turned into their lives work and now they seem
to be having a blast. And I'm jealous. Can you tell?

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Yes, I'm jealous.

Speaker 4 (18:56):
I can.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
So what do you think of these side hustles?

Speaker 3 (18:59):
You've got some thought that's eight six six, nine two
seven forty three sixty one. Is there a side hustle
maybe you wish you got into in the beginning? And
a side hustle doesn't have to mean ride sharing. I
know so often we talk about that uber lyft kind
of thing as being a side hustle, but it could
be really anything. You just got into it early and
you loved doing it.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
What was it?

Speaker 3 (19:18):
We want to hear that story at eight sixty six,
wash it from the number one call. Now we'll get
into this coming up in a few and next, speaking
of stories, a crazy First State story that involves a
kid with some intuition.

Speaker 4 (19:29):
Yeah, Liz went on a crazy first date with a guy,
and her son had a very visceral reaction to her
date when he came to bigger up.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
You'll hear what happened in minutes. Don't go anywhere else.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
It's Toby and Chilly's crazy first date.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Here's Liz in d C with the crazy first date story.
We're all about to go on this adventure or misadventure,
as the case may be, So take us on this journey.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
I met this guy at the mall. I was new
to California, so it was kind of nice to, you know,
finally like meet someone to talk for a little while,
and he asked me out on a date. We went
on a date. A few days later, he came over
to my house and my son was there. I had
a four year old son. He was like talking to
me and he was trying to engage with my son,
and my son was not having it. And then the

(20:14):
guy got kind of like touchy feely. My son like
made a face and the guy turned around and my
son launched one of those matchbox cars and hit him
right in the middle of his forehead.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Oh it was terrible.

Speaker 6 (20:28):
So we went on the date and throughout the whole day.
I was looking at this guy who had a knot
on his forehead because my son had beamed him with
a car.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
So your son did not like your date getting all
kissy kissing flirty with mama.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
Right exactly what happens next? You know, he kind of
was a little upset, but he kind of like tried
to brush it off. I was like, do you need
some ice or something? He was like, no, I'm okay,
I'm okay. Like the little guy has an arm on
him and I was like, yeah, I guess he does.
I'm so sorry. But the day was like crazy. His
BMW was like an old BMW that was falling apart.

(21:05):
The driver's side seat was broken. It was just it
was ridiculous. I never went on a day with a
guy again.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
We hope that it doesn't matter who you take, that
you brighten up your holidays by going to see Mariah
Carey Capitol One Arena, December first.

Speaker 6 (21:20):
Oh yay, thank you so much. I'm so excited this
week free.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Mariah Carey tickets up for grabs in return for your
good or bad crazy first date story.

Speaker 4 (21:31):
So tell us about it right now. Eight sixty six
nine two seven four three six one.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
And you could take these tickets thanks to Live Nation.
It's ninety seven point one. Watch FM Toby and Chilly
in the morning, Top stories at the top of the hour,
on the way.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
In minutes, Top Stories top of the hour.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Hurricane Milton is forecast to make landfall as a Category
four storm in Florida either late tomorrow or early Thursday,
and counties along Florida's west coast have been or to evacuate. Meanwhile,
we've got a group of emergency dispatchers from Northern Virginia
heading to North Carolina to help staff their nine to
one to one centers in areas that were affected by

(22:10):
Hurricane Helene. Dispatchers from Fairfax, Loud and Prince William Counties
are part of the seventeen person team. Fairfax County is
going to use artificial intelligence to answer non emergency calls.
The county hopes this new system will prevent long wait
lines for callers who are reporting issues like noise complaints

(22:31):
or trespassing. The Smithsonian National Zoo is bringing back its
annual Zoo Lights event next month. The event boasts thousands
of led lights depicting all kinds of animals and the
habitats they call Home and is going to be running
every weekend November twenty second through January fourth. And according
to a recent survey, only thirty eight percent of US

(22:52):
adults feel comfortable talking about money their own finances with
family and close friends. They actually feel less awkward discussing
their love lives, their weight, or political and religious views
than their bank account balances. Forecast for today, it's going
to be a beautiful fall day, lots of sun. Seventy
the high right now fifty in Rockville.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
All right, let's talk about this side hustle you wish
you would have gotten into back in the day. Remember,
a side hustle doesn't necessarily have to be like doing
delivery service, driving or whatever. It could be any side hustle,
something that came along that you could have gotten into
at the beginning. Maybe you're thinking it's too late for
me to get involved in it. What is that side
hustle for you? We talked about it a little bit earlier.

(23:36):
We've got some of your thoughts on standby, and if
you've got something to add to the story, stay there.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
We'll get into it coming up in just a few minutes.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
Now, we shouldn't point out that side hustle in this
case doesn't necessarily mean driving for a meal delivery service
or one of those couriers that you can get stuff
on demand. No, in this case, we're talking about members
of Generation Z who sub let out things, they rent,
homes that they rent as airbn be so they can
make some extra money.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Why not.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
I mean, hey, if you're crafty enough to figure that out,
do it. Toby and Chilly in the morning at ninety
seven point one watch FM.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
So we were wondering, like, what do you wish or
what trend do you wish you got in on early
to make a lot of money.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Evelyn and Fort Washington. You're up first, Go ahead, what's
that hustle I wish?

Speaker 6 (24:19):
I'll try to post in a bunch of.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Dancer TikTok's when it first came out.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
I'm a pretty good danswer, and I probably wouldn't made,
you know, pretty tick chilling, you know off there.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
It's not too late, although maybe I should take my
own advice because I thought it was too late to
get involved with Posh Martin Now.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
No, all it takes is one good idea and one
thing that you do better than anyone else, and you
do it consistently, and then you too could end up
becoming TikTok famous or insta famous or insert social media
or YouTube famous here. All right, let's go over to Mike,
who's listening to call a Park this morning. Mike, thanks
for hanging what's on your mind?

Speaker 6 (24:54):
I guess I we sh.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
Would have gotten into you know, like kitcoin on the
ground floor, because I honestly I don't even know how
it's been doing these days, but I know like people
who invested early have made a ton of money.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Conversely, people have lost a lot of money too. But
these are the risks you take when you're trying to
be first.

Speaker 6 (25:12):
You know.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
It's like with any kind of investment ups and downs,
you just got to ride it out.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Buckle up, and good luck with the next bitcoin or
doja coin or whatever coin or some sort of whatever
electronic transaction gimmick comes our way.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
What more, Toby and Jilly head over to washfm dot
com or the iHeartRadio app.
