Toby and Chilly Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point
one was It's Toby and Chilly.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
In the Morning on ninety seven point one wash FM.
Welcome back to this very odd work week. It's like
stop and go, stop and go. It's a short work week.
I'm here with Mike Klein, who's in for Toby Napp.
How are you this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
I'm good. Little cold outside, but I'm good.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Oh well, the cold's about to get interesting weather wise.
I know it's so typical that we talk about the weather,
but that's what a lot of people are talking about.
So today we're supposed to get like a combination of rain,
sleet and snow this afternoon. There might be some accumulation,
but the big deal, supposedly is Sunday night into Monday
and kind of all day Monday, where we could get
(00:41):
depending on where you live, right, like five.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Plus inches of snow.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Really it is happening now, well it's going to be
happening supposedly.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
They'll know more, they'll know more as we get closer.
But what are your thoughts. We talked about this yesterday
morning with Taylor Shae, our producer, But like, what are
your thoughts and feelings about snow in general.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I don't love snow because it's kind of an inconvenience.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
I think it's fun to like play in snow, you know,
obviously snowball fight, like if I'm around my friends, fun fun, fun,
or you know, family. But I'm not a big fan
of it because I feel like I get trapp places,
you know, because the roads, like we can't drive right here.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Forget not being able to drive, Okay, I will take
it a step before that, and that is clearing the roads.
So it is a very different world in the DC
area with road clearing and how much they clear versus
like New England or something. I needed a guy in
Boston years ago, and we would alternate visiting each other
on weekends. The particular weekend I'm there, and I'm not exaggerating,
(01:36):
they got well over a foot of snow.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Wow. The day before I.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Was supposed to fly back home, and I was freaking out,
and he's like, why are you worried? There's like, at
least I don't know, twenty two hours before your flight,
everything is fine, And I said, this kind of snow
would paralyze DC.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
It would, But my flight was on time. Not only
that the.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Roads were like completely clear to the pavement. I wish
if the roads were that clear that quickly around here,
because then there would be nothing to complain about. I'd
get like, great, my kid complain the snow off his tablet.
I could still get into work all as well.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Right, Yeah, but like yeah, in the South, if you
got one inch, the paralyzed the town for an entire week.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, we're here, yeh, the South. We're like the South.
We're not technically the South. But I'm saying an inch
of snow would close schools around here. The prediction of
snow closes schools around here. But of course we'll know
more about that in a couple of days. I do
want to ask you. I know you're Jewish, and I
know that Hanakah we just celebrated, and I want to
know how you pass the time with your parents over
(02:41):
the holidays. And we'll get to that coming up next.
As Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues on ninety
seven point one, wash up.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Welcome to Friday.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
It is January third, twenty twenty five. Got to remember
it is twenty twenty five. It's Toby and Chilly in
the Morning. At ninety seven point one WASHUFM Toby Nap
is out, but my client is in for him today.
And Mike, I know you're Jewish and I'm just curious,
like how big a deal Hanukkah is.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
In your world?
Speaker 2 (03:06):
And I know you have your parents that live in
the area. Did you guys do anything fun? Do you
exchange a bunch of gifts every day or so?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Like we didn't exchange gift.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
My parents told me that honky gifts are for kids,
which is so they haven't gotten any gift in years.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Really, but is that true?
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Is that?
Speaker 5 (03:23):
I think?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I think my parents just like to save money, like
they're just not spending money on me.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I mean, I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Do you have any hanka traditions though? Outside of do
you do the manora? Do you have one in your
apartment that you do lights? I do, and I forget
to light some days, which is not good.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
But every year my dad likes the thing and he
almost burns the house down.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
So that's kind of that's a tradition, I guess.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I mean, no, Hey, it's a big deal. But I
have a question for you, and I don't want to
put you on the spot to speak for all of
my Jewish friends, right, But I noticed on social media
more and more of my Jewish friends are doing Christmasy things,
like they're taking their kids to see Santa and they're
you know what I'm trying to say, like, which is fine?
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Right?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
So does that mean they're just not as strict or
they're just borrowing some aspects of the Christmas thing?
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Like growing up? Was that a thing with you? Okay?
Speaker 4 (04:16):
So you know, because you're growing up and you're younger,
so you don't really know the differences. And your friends
are celebrating Christmas. So basically you do a lot of
that stuff because your parents take you to a lot
of stuff. But you know, one time, I remember, this
is kind of funny, my grandmother did like a surprise
visit and my mom had a Christmas tree going on, Oh,
your mom did put up a christ job busted And
my Grandma's like what is this And my mom's like
(04:37):
it's a Hanaga bush. She's like, this is not a
Hanaga bush. This is not a Haga bush at all,
And she was mad. And my grandmother wasn't even that religious,
but she was like, you're need to be proud of
what we are. Just yeah, I am proud, but I
like Christmas trees. I had bushes and was that the
last time?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Man?
Speaker 4 (04:54):
And then she's always saying, please date somebody who's who's
Christians so we can have a Christmas tree in our family.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
I'm like, Mom, please calm down. It's so funny because
growing up I was the opposite. I'm Christian, but I
was like, why can't we be Jewish during this time
of year? Then I would get a present every single
day for eight days. So it's all about, you know,
selfishness is really what it comes down to.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I will tell you they didn't give me eight presents.
They gave me one present for the whole holiday. I
want to talk to a manager about them.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Oh goodness.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Well, if you need to get into a good morning
mindset after the holidays, here I'm gonna get you, hopefully
there with a quote that we're going to share that
is coming up as Toby and Chilly in the Morning
continues on ninety seven point one washef ninety seven point
one was CHEFM. It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning.
I am Chiliamar. Toby Nap is out today, but my
(05:41):
client is sitting in do you.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Have the Morning Mindset this morning. I'd love to hear it.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yes, so Verne McKellen says, what the new year brings
to you will depend a great deal on what you bring.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
To the new year.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
The opportunities and experiences the new year offers really going
to largely reflect sort of the attitude, the effort, and
the intentions that you bring into it. So keep in
mind that your approach and actions will shape what twenty
twenty five has in store for you. I'll read that
quote again by Verne McKellen who says what the new
(06:16):
year brings to you will depend a great deal on what.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
You bring to the new year.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
And you can find that quote and share your own
using hashtag Morning Mindset on the Toby and Chili page
at washefm dot com. Now coming up in just a
few minutes, we're going to get you up to speed
on everything in Hollywood with our showbiz buzz and reminding
you the Golden Globe Awards are airing this Sunday. Tell
you who's got the most nominations as Toby and Chilly

FM Top Stories Top of the Hour, The FBI says
there is no link so far between the attack on
Bourbon Street and the Tesla cyber truck explosion outside Trump
Hotel in Las Vegas. The Vegas explosion involved a decorated
Army Green Beret from Colorado, and the suspect in the
(07:05):
New Orleans attack was also a US born citizen and
an Army veteran. The House is set to vote for
a new speaker today. It comes as some Republicans believe
current Speaker Mike Johnson does not have the needed votes
to remain in the role, despite an endorsement from President
elect Trump. A man was arrested after driving onto the
(07:27):
sidewalk near the US Capitol yesterday. Turned out to be
a twenty six year old contractor from Georgia who was
working in the area and was charged with reckless driving.
The NFL has selected Washington Commander's quarterback Jayden Daniels and
wide receiver Terry McLaurin for the twenty twenty five Pro Bowl.
This is the first time since twenty seventeen that Washington
(07:48):
is sending offensive players to the Pro Bowl. That game,
by the way, is set for February second in Orlando.
And are your holiday lights still hanging outside well. According
to a recent survey, fifty one percent take down their
decorations right around New Year's Day, thirty three percent have
it all down by February. First forecast for today, it's.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Going to be cloudy.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
We do have a chance of rain, sleet and snow
later this afternoon with some light accumulation. Highs around forty five.
Right now, it's twenty seven degrees in Gaithersburg. Coming up
in just a few minutes. You know, not everybody can
be home for the holidays, but that doesn't mean that
it can't be special. We want to know how you've
(08:34):
made it special for someone who couldn't be with their
loved ones. Eight six six nine two seven four three
six ' one is the number to call if you
want to join our conversation. As Toby and Chilly in
the Morning continues. You know, not everybody can be home
for the holidays with their loved ones, but that doesn't
mean it can't be a special time. It's Toby and
(08:54):
Chilly in the Morning, a ninety seven point one Wash FM.
I'm Chilliamar. Toby Napp is out today, but Mike Klein
is here now. We were talking about Honkah earlier, because
I know you celebrate Hanukkah. You've lived in a lot
of different states for work. Were you ever away from
your parents? Uh? Do you ever have to spend a
holiday without them?
Speaker 4 (09:14):
I think maybe a pass over here too, but mainly
I just fly in for the holidays almost every holiday,
fluent lucky.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Would you feel like sad or depressed or whatever if
you weren't around, Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Yeah, Like I had to get with them even you know,
even during Christmas. You know, we do the Chinese food
and we do the movie theater, Like I gotta like,
I have to do that every year with them, even
though they're like we could skip it up, Like no.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
No, no, we have to do it. So you do
it for yourself, like for them, you know.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yeah, So it's not like, oh, because your parents make
you do it, because I think there is something to
be said about that. Like I always feel so grateful
I'm from the DC area right Like for me, I
don't have to travel out of town for Thanksgiving, for Christmas,
no major holiday. I literally just drive on the Beltway
and get to all my family. But we celebrated This
(09:59):
has been out thirteen years. My aunt had an aneurysm
and she was met of back to Johns Hopkins. And
it was a week before Christmas. And I will tell
you one of the most special Christmases we've ever had,
and it sounds crazy to say this was when ten
of us went to Hopkins and set up in one
(10:20):
of their waiting rooms like a little Christmas party.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
We got PF.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Chang's. Really we like got dressed up, we had I mean,
we brought the party to the hospital. Now she was
in the ICU, so it wasn't like she could join
us and walk with us, But it was the togetherness
of it. It was it was a way to take
something that was so almost tragic because we still have
her and turn it into a good memory, a special memory.
(10:46):
And to this day we still like, you know what,
we figured out a way to make a very scary
chapter in our lives special and beautiful and memorable. And
we talk about it every Christmas. What about you? You
made Christmas or any holidays special for somebody who couldn't
be with their family.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
What did you do?
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one
is the number to call. We'll get to your stories next.
As Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues a ninety
seven point one Wash FM. We're talking about how you
made Christmas or any holiday special for somebody who couldn't
be home with their loved ones. Eight six six nine
two seven four three six one is the number if
(11:29):
you want to jump into the conversation. It's Toby and
Chilly in the Morning on ninety seven point one Wash FM.
I'm Chilliamar here with Mike Klein, who is in for
Toby Napp. And earlier I was telling you how one
of our most memorable Christmases was over thirteen years ago
where we spent it at Johns Hopkins because my aunt
had had an aneurysm and she survived and was recovering
(11:51):
and we just wanted to sort of celebrate, to get
out the whole lobby. Yeah, we absolutely did. It was
like ten to twelve of us. But apparently, Mike, that's
not that original of a thing, because something similar happened
with you. Derek tell us my.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Brother was in the hospital during Christmas, so I brought
my family over with some food and some games and
we spent Christmas in the hospital room with them.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Oh my gosh, that's so nice.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Derek.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
What was his reaction, Like she actually cried because he
was so moved by the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Where there's a will, there's a way, like you can
get the folks together no matter where it is. And
I'm so glad that you were able to do that
with your family, Derek, thanks for sharing that.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Jackie, you are part of the show in Bowie.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
How did you make the holidays special for someone a
coworker of mine.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Her family lives out of the country, So every year
I'll have her over for Christmas so she just doesn't
feel alone and make her really feel a part of
our family and she can't celebrate it with her Jackie, that.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Is so nice.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
If you are a great coworker, Mike, you lived in
so many different cities over the years.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, I had coworkers invited me to like Thanksgiving and stuff,
like they've even fought over me.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Fuck like they fought.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Yeah, Like, are you considering going to Jason's Thanksgiving and
not mine?
Speaker 3 (13:10):
I'm like, I'm going, I'm going to Maryland. I'm out
no good deeds, it's unpunished. Well, that's still very cool,
And did you did you take anybody up on that?
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Now?
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I took southwest directly to b WI.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
You're like, no, I would rather go home for the
holidays than deal with this coming up in just a
few minutes. We're going to get you up to speed
on all the news headlines with Toby and Chilly's top.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Stories, Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
The FBI says there is no link so far between
the attack on Bourbon Street and the Tesla cyber truck
explosion outside Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. The Vegas explosion
of all day decorated Army green Beret from Colorado, and
the suspect in the New Orleans attack was also a
US born citizen and Army veteran. The one hundred and
(13:58):
nineteenth US Congress is going to be sworn in today.
First on the agenda, they're going to elect a speaker. Now,
it's not clear if Republican Mike Johnson has the votes
needed to retain his position, even with the endorsement of
President elect Trump. A man who has been arrested by
police after driving onto the sidewalk near the US Capitol
(14:19):
yesterday turned out to be a twenty six year old
contractor from Georgia who was working in the area. He
was charged with reckless driving. Mcgarmy County is going to
be changing some of its ride on bus routes January twelfth.
This shill say the changes will improve efficiency and on
time performance during busier periods of the day. The NFL
has selected Washington Commander's quarterback Jaden Daniels and wide receiver
(14:44):
Terry McLaurin for the twenty twenty five Pro Bowl. It
is the first time since twenty seventeen that Washington is
sending offensive players to the Pro Bowl. The game is
set for February second, and babies born in the next
fifteen years they're going to be part of a new
generation called Generation Beta. Researchers predict that Generation Beta will
(15:06):
experience AI and automation in most aspects of their life,
and many will live to see the year twenty one
oh one forecasts forward today cloudy with the chance of rain,
sleet and snow later this afternoon. Hi's you're getting up
to about forty five right now. It is twenty eight
degrees in Lanam. Coming up next. You know we are
(15:27):
expected to get real snow, lots of snow Sunday into Monday.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
What does this all mean?
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Will there be school We're going to catch up with
ABC seven First Alert meteorologists II Leen whalin for what
they think will happen as Toby and Chilly in the
Morning continues on ninety seven point one WASH FM.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Have you heard we might.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Be getting snow? It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning
on ninety seven point one WASHFM. I'm Chilliamar here with
Mike Klein, who's in for Toby Napp today. Mike, you know,
not only are we supposed to be getting a little
something something today, but the bigger story is Sunday into Monday,
and we're not sure exactly the timeline of everything. That's
(16:09):
why we decided to give our friend ABC seven First
Alert mediorologists Iileen Whalen a call. Good morning, Eileen. So
are we getting snow?
Speaker 6 (16:21):
Yes, tracking our first winter storm of this season late
Sunday night into Monday. The First Alert Weather Team currently
on a winter alert ahead of this weather maker. I
also want folks to be prepared this afternoon for a
chance for rain, sleet, and snow. Any snowfall accumulations likely
just on the grassy surfaces, and we could see one
to two inches of snow farther north in Maryland, but
(16:43):
here in DC, maybe just a quick coating. Otherwise just
cold and wet with those rapidly falling temperatures and blustery
winds tonight, so we could have some slick spots.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
So what's the timeline to be?
Speaker 6 (16:53):
Like Sunday and Monday, clouds will be on the increase,
and it will be cold with temperatures in the middle thirties,
and then late at night we'll start to see that
snow develop from southwest to northeast. So I'd say probably
seeing that snow in DC by about nine pm, and
then snow will continue overnight Sunday early Monday morning some
of the highest snowfall rates, and we'll continue to see
(17:15):
some snow showers through Monday afternoon. A lot of the
guidance pointing at about five inches of snow or more.
So we've got the precipitation, we've got the cold air,
so all the ingredients there are in place, will just be.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Kind of fine tuning those snow totals.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
Sounds like we need to make sure the snow blower
is working, Eileen. What do you think is going to
happen with schools?
Speaker 6 (17:35):
It is going to be an impactful weather maker, so
get the shovels and the sleds ready and prepare for
school delays and cancelations. And with cold weather sticking around
for much of next week, it's going to be a
slow melting process as well.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Wow, thanks so much, Eileen. Well that's going to be
good news for teachers and kids.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
I guess yeah, it's gonna be great news for you
because you have to start scheduling some stuff out.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I got to take into the different hills around town.
I hope my snow pants still fit.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
