Speaker 1 (00:00):
Toby and Chilly Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point
one was out.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
So is there anybody available to plow a driveway in
Montgomery County? Hi, We're Toby and Chilly in the Morning
here at ninety seven point one wash FM. Come back
from the South and I brought some snow with me.
Did you miss me from this out jem. Well, they're
going through a cold snap for them. They're like opening

(00:25):
emergency shelters in Florida because it's fifty degrees out.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Well, a bust. It wasn't a bust, you know. There
was always the chance that it's going to be a bust,
and it became pretty clear yesterday. Today everybody who can
hear us is going to wake up to snow, which
and uh, we're going to be getting quite a bit
of it.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Well, this is interesting. My daughter was supposed to be
flying back to Boston today. They haven't canceled her flat
out of BWI in the afternoon.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
They're going to probably wait to see if the other
planes can get here from other locations. But we could
check in with our friends over at ABC seven. Maybe
Brian Vandergraff will know more about what his thoughts are
on that. But you know what, I'm glad you made
it back. I guess you got back over the weekend
before all this happened.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
So yeah, no, I've been I've been hanging out.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It was very, very eventful, but we've got all week
to talk about that. God willing, it's good to be
There's a country song that talks about it's a great
day to be alive. Well, it is a great day
to be alive. And I'll just leave it at that.
That's a big fat tease. But today, what's more important
to you is the snow, and we'll keep you up
to speed when we talk to the Notorious VDG from
ABC seven.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yes, guess what that's not SnO.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
No, it's just well, okay, whatever, tolby you and Chilly
in the morning at thirty seven.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Point one watch FM. You already know what it is,
and so let's get the rundown. How do we say it?
Chilly this morning?

Speaker 3 (01:46):
ABC seven First Alert and Mediorologist Brian Vandergraff.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Aka the Notorious VDG. Andy, what's up.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
It's been a while since we've had a decent snowstorm
in the DNB, so I'm excited to actually have a
snow day.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Talk about the time and people are waking up to snow.
What's going to be happening? Is there going to be
a break and total inches?

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Yeah? No, I think it's kind of a morning ready
to lunchtime kind of deal. It happened overnight while a
lot of us sweat has started. I think we'll see
some heavy bands right what would through be the normal
morning rush, and luckily they're hoping won't be one, because
you know, a lot of folks are off. I think
they we'll see this off and on before tapering off
round mid day and then through the afternoon. I think
we'll get a little bit of lull in the action
and there could be a little bit more like snow

(02:27):
later tonight on the backside. But I think the bulk
of this really is the first half of the day,
and then maybe for the back half of the day
you can get out and enjoy it. We're doing a
general like six to twelve inches of snow. I think
a lot of neighborhoods could get close to the double
digits and certain spots will be a sweet spot that
might be on the higher end, but I think we're
all good for at least a half foot but it's
all shoveable across the region. I think we're all pretty
much uniform, maybe a little lesser amounts far southern Maryland

(02:49):
towards central Virginia where they may see a little bit
of sleep mixing in.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
If you were to predict, do you think that kids
are going to be off again tomorrow?

Speaker 6 (02:56):
I do.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
I mean, first of all, we even have a time
to like get started melt, but we're not getting about
freezing today, and then overnights can be cold, so everything
is just going to be kind of icy throughout the
first half of the day tomorrows. It might take another
day of melting and things before we get back to normal.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Now, let's talk about travel.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
My daughter is supposed to be flying back to Boston
from BWI on Southwest today. The afternoon flights at BWI
aren't canceled. I'm not sure about the status at Reagan
and DC aread.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
What do you think is going to.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Happen with travel plants, people who have to get to
an airport to fly and whatnot.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
Oh man, Well, this is a storm that is, you know,
a kind of a mid Atlantic but it's been from
the Midwest kind of due east, working its way towards
the eastern seaboard, So there are a lot of US
cities in the mix there that are all impacted, and
I think there are planes that probably didn't make it
in and won't make it out. So I would definitely
call ahead because I'm sure when we talked to our
reporters throughout today at the airport, you're going to see
a lot of red up on the board because planes

(03:49):
is there's not going to be where they need to
be with all the weather that's happening across the nation.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
And I don't mean to not enjoy our current situation,
but I heard a rumor we might be getting some
more snow this coming weekend. Is that true?

Speaker 5 (04:01):
Yeah, the models blipopped on me this morning. The one
that said no snow now says yes, and the one
that said yes now says no. So that point is
there's a chance on Saturday. But when you're this many
days out and they're flip flopping, we're watching it. We'll
keep you posted. We're not ready to pin that down
just yet. Let's get through store number one.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Thank you so much for your time, Stay safe, Brian.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
All right, thanks a much chili.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
Well this is good news now, I just need to
know about tomorrow and flights.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
So if anybody works in operations at BWI eight sixty
six nine two seven forty three sixty one, that's number one.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Number two is this that weekend thing? Chili?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I have a meeting on Saturday I have to be
at but there's a football game in Tampa Bay on Sunday.
I might be sick on Monday, just saying so, well,
maybe I need to think about that, because what if
I can't get back anyway? Toby and Chilly in the morning.
We'll keep you up to speed with everything you need
to know at washfm dot com slash weather. All right,

(04:54):
then coming up in just minutes with Toby and Chilly
in the morning time for your morning line. Set here
on this snow day, Monday, sixth day of January ninety
seven point one wash CHEFM.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
We're Toby a Chili in the morning and.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
If you need to get into a better morning mindset,
we've got a quote for.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
You thinking this might help you. It's from John Steinbeck.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Maybe you've heard of him if you paid attention in
like writing in English classes, like say in high school
maybe college.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
What good is the warmth of summer? Without the cold
of winter to give it sweetness.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Remember on days like today, if you're out there working
in it right now, clearing it, thank you for what
you do. And remember what good is the warmth of
summer without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.
If you need to read that again, maybe you want
to share it with somebody, find it at tobya Chillipage,
washchefm dot com. That's your morning mindset for this Monday.
Coming up in just a few minutes. We've got your

(05:43):
entertainment news. We call it show biz buzz.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
What's up?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
The Golden Globes took place last night. We'll share some
of the big winners a minute.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
All I know is I will up to a bunch
of notifications. I bet you know what it's all about.
Toby and Chilly in the morning on this snowday, Monday,
ninety seven point one WASHCHEFM.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Time for some entertainment news. We call it show biz buzz.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
So yeah, the Golden Globes took place last night. The
FX series Showgun was a huge winner. It was named
Best TV Series Drama and three of its stars took
home acting honors, and then the Brutalists got Best Motion
Picture Drama, then Netflix's Emily Perez Best Motion Picture Musical
or Comedy. Both of those walked away with three awards

(06:22):
in the movie categories. Tom Moore, can you believe it?
She had never won an acting award in her life.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
You're kidding me.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yesterday it was the first time the substance, the substance,
she got the award for that, so she was super excited.
Great speech. We've got the fullest, by the way, if
you want to check it out at washfm dot com.
Several celebrities were among the more than a dozen people
who were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom That included
Denzel Washington, Michael J. Fox, YouTube singer Bono, Bill Nye,

(06:51):
the science guy, Magic Johnson, Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour,
and so many others were given the nation's biggest billion honor.
Jeff Bena, the film director, screenwriter and husband of actress
Aubrey Plaza, was found dead at an LA home on Friday.
He reportedly died by suicide. Aubrey starred in several of

(07:12):
her husband's films, including Life After Beth and Finally recent
Sury revealed that pop culture icons Americans would be happiest
to have his roommates. Ryan Reynolds top the Liz barely
beating Taylor Swift came in second and then coming in
third with India. The most popular choice for a famous
athlete roommate the Simone Biles. And that's your show biz buzz.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
You saw about Jose and Thrace right he picked up one?
Is he a local celebrity of the Chef persuasion? Sure
got that Presidential Medal of Freedom just saying it's ninety
seven point one was CHEFM on.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
This snow day. You need the news, all right, stay there,
We got you coming up.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Top stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yes, the federal government closed. Also, schools in the DC
area closed today because of our first major snowfall of
the season. However, Congress is still set to meet at
one o'clock this afternoon to certify the results of the
twenty twenty four election. The US Capitol Police say heavy
security is in place for the counting and certification of

(08:13):
the electoral vote. Local commuters, you should check your bus
and train routes closely. Today. Metro System is implementing its
moderate bad weather service plan, reducing the number of bus
routes from one hundred and ninety three to one hundred
and fourteen. Of course, some delaser is also expected for
metro trains, though any service reductions will be determined as

(08:34):
the day goes on. Now, if you're off or you've
got time, The DC Snowball Fight Association has chosen Meridian
Hill Park, just north of the White House for this
year's Snowball Fight location. It is set for eleven this morning.
The Washington Commanders are going to be entering the playoffs
as the sixth seed in the NFC after they beat

(08:57):
the Cowboys barely twenty three to nineteen yesterday. The Commanders
are going to be traveling to Tampa to take on
the Buccaneers and the Wildcar Card playoff next Sunday night.
And according to a recent survey, a lot of tired
Americans are catching up on sleep during their work day.
Forty six percent of workers admit to snoozing on the
job at least a few times a year, where one

(09:20):
in three say they nap at work every week. Forecast
for today, Yes, you're waking up to a winter winderland.
We're going to get anywhere from six to twelve inches
depending on where you live. Most of it's going to
taper off midday. We may get some more flurries tonight.
High only twenty seven. Right now, it's twenty four in Bowie,
all right.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
So here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Everybody's routine is thrown out the window in the DC
area today for obvious reasons, except for those who are
essential employees, and we're kind of considered to be as such.
I understand there was a little slumber party with a
couple of essential employees that I am on a team
here with Toby and Chili in the morning and producer

(10:02):
Taylor Shae over there ninety seven point one wash FM.
So Chilly's gonna tell us all about this slumber party.
Taylor Scha's gonna join us. That's minutes away. That's right,
they threw down. How did it go? You'll find out
in less than twenty minutes. I'm going on a long
Toby and Chilly in the morning. You're at ninety seven
point one wash FM. I understand there was quite the
slumber party happening next door. See there's an even hotel

(10:23):
next to our iHeartRadio DC broadcast third of a floor
facility on Rockville Pike, and the hotel is nice I've
stayed there before during similar snow situations, but I did
not this time.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Ladies night was on. I take it, y'all. We're up
watching movies.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
There were no martinis and you're jammies. We weren't doing
our nails, we weren't having pillow fights.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Oh lord.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
I can't speak for Taylor, but I really didn't sleep
much because I just feel bad leaving my husband alone
with an eleven year old who's gonna be going crazy
today with cabin fever. Well, yeah, it's really hard, and
Taylor looks like you're in heaven right now. I slept
so good.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (11:05):
I got to put the thermostat at whatever I wanted.
I had snacks, I had cute jammies.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Makes me think I shouldn't have passed on that room
that I had reserved up until I bailed on it
last minute. Yeah, because then, you know, I'm sitting here
doing ice skating three sixty maneuvers on Rockville Pike, trying
to skid my way into work, and.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
You know there's a chance we'll have to potentially stay
again today depending on how much snow we get. So
I have to just let go of the guilt of
leaving husband home with the kid for additional days.

Speaker 6 (11:39):
By the way, I'm the worst hotel room host ever
because I did bring us snacks and drinks, and I
totally forgot to offer them to you when you came over.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Oh yeah, ate dinner in front of me. Let's kidding.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
So it wasn't a slumber party then. It was just
two people, two ships passing in the night in the
same hotel.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
We just had a nice girl chat.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Yeah, and went to bed at a reasonable shelby.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
And Chili's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
If you're up this morning and you're listening, it's time
for you to call eight sixty six ninet two seven
forty three sixty one because the game is afoot.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
The question today is this.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
DC tradition started during the snow mcgeddon storm back in
twenty ten.

Speaker 5 (12:19):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Do you know the answer? Do you want to see
Mary J.

Speaker 2 (12:22):

thanks to Live Nation, Call now eight sixty six nine two.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Seven forty three sixty one. Here's the question again one
more time.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
This DC tradition started during the Snowmageddon storm in twenty ten.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (12:38):
Call now?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Get it ride win eight six six, nineteen seven forty
three sixty one. The great thing about your nearly impossible
question is we all get to learn something together and
you'll learn about this tradition Helby.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
And Chili's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
But bot it it's brother for blood. What hey, welcome
back to the show on the slow down.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
You were rocking that djable. Good morning, that's right, goodbye
to everybody. Hi, good one to welcome.

Speaker 5 (13:04):
First time, long time.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
All right, you know the drill.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
This is not your first rodeo with Toby and Chilly
in the morning and your nearly impossible question, so here
it comes.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
This DC tradition started during Snowmageddon in twenty ten.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
So what is it?

Speaker 4 (13:22):
The fun DC snowball fight? I believe Ridgarde at DuPont Circle.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
And where do you think it is going to be today?

Speaker 5 (13:28):
Bonus points Today it's Meridian Hill Park because Capitol Hill
is closed for the Carter funeral arrangement?

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Wow, look you wow? Everybody? Is that how fun?

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Lance?

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Of course it is and it happens to be right.
Congrats Chilli, tell him what he's won. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
You're gonna go see Mary J. Blige Capital in Arena,
March twenty six, thanks to our friends at Live Nation.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Oh isn't that great, Brendon? How does that make you feel?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Makes me feel very happy?

Speaker 4 (13:56):
Thank you Toby and Chilly. You are welcome.

Speaker 2 (13:58):

just minutes. Top stories at the top of the hour.
Still THEO come around Sutur.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Top stories top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
In case you haven't noticed, the first major snowstorm has
arrived in the DC area. The federal government shut down,
so are schools, but Vice President Kamala Harris will see
still overseas certification of the election results today. Congress is
going to be meeting it one this afternoon to count
the electoral votes. Of course, US Capitol Police say that

(14:42):
heavy security is still going to be in place. Metro
is implementing its moderate bad Weather service plan, reducing the
number of bus routes from one ninety three to one
to fourteen, and of course there could also be some
delays on metro trains. The Washington DC Snowball Fight Association
inviting local residents if you're free and you want to

(15:03):
have some fun, to Meridian Hill Park in Northwest DC.
The fight is scheduled for eleven this morning. In other news,
the Manhattan Judge is ordering President elect Trump to be
sentenced January tenth in his hush money case, just days
before the inauguration. The judge, however, implied he would not
sentence Trump to jail time, instead giving him an unconditional discharge.

(15:24):
The US Surgeon General says the only safe amount of
alcohol is no alcohol. A new advisory includes findings that
link even low alcohol consumption to higher chances of developing
seven types of cancer. And United Van Lines released the
results of its annual list of the most moved from
states in twenty twenty four. Now for the seventh consecutive year,

(15:47):
New Jersey saw the highest percentage of outbound movers. The
state with the highest percentage of people moving in was
West Virginia. DC came in fifth. We are under a
winter weather warning. Obviously, win you're wonderland out there. You'll
get anywhere from six to twelve inches. That's gonna taper
off a bit early afternoon, and then we'll have some

(16:07):
more flurries tonight. H I only getting up to about
twenty seven right now. It's twenty four in Woodbridge.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Speaking of this.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Winter weather warning and whatever it is emergency situation, I
am absolutely positively tired of something related to this, and
I hope it's not uncouth for me to turn ninety
seven point one WASHFM into a big megaphone for something.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Oh mind, what is it?

Speaker 2 (16:32):
You'll find out next Stay right there and enjoy that
hot talk.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Just to heads up.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
If you gotta drive today, it's probably not smart. You
don't want to go driving into the danger zone. Teby
and chilly in the morning. It's ninety seven point one
wash FM. Black ice is more than likely going to
be a thing, and you know there's gonna be some
shoveling and people are gonna over exert themselves. Can I
just tell you, Chili, I'm over over shoveling, snow clearing

(16:58):
ice laying down any Wait.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Wait, you're acting like we've gotten so many snowstorms over it.
It hasn't even begun. You haven't even gotten under it.

Speaker 6 (17:06):
I know.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
And well, here's the thing, like, I just is it
just totally classless for me to say, Hey, if anybody
wants to like call us at eight six six nineteen
forty three sixteen one, come over my place and I
will like give you good money to like clear my
driveway because I just don't want to do it, but
you have to take care of my neighbor too.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Who Well, if you're paying.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Then that's fine. I'm kind of surprised. I mean, you
live in a condo complex with a lot of families.
Even in my cul de sac there's always like a
couple of teenagers who even come by to offer to shovel.
No one in all the time you've lived there has
ever done that.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
No, I've never asked for it.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
I've always been the one that's done it because I
always felt like I could come in with overwhelming snow
clearing firepower.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
But no one knocked on your door in the palast. No,
these kids, these kids these days, I mean, they're missing
out on an opportunity to make good money.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
I totally agree with you and I and I you
know what, and maybe I'm you know, okay, I'm getting
all I'm stumbling over my words because I'm just so
fed up with the idea of thinking that I'm gonna
have to go plow this stuff. And here's why, because
I know that where I live, they're gonna do what
a lot of places do. They plow, like the main areas.
But then all of that stuff from the plow gets

(18:20):
just kicked up in front of my driveway by my garage.
Oh yeah, And do you know what it's like to
have to knock down those snow mountains of ice?

Speaker 3 (18:27):
I hate that.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
It's worse and that's what I'm really not looking for
doing after work today.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
And unfortunately, if you're on a certain side of the
street or whatever that is going to happen to your driveway,
you're gonna get blocked in by that mountain of snow. Yep,
that's not okay.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
And normally I wouldn't say anything about it, but I just,
you know what, I just it just kind of hit
me Friday after the conversational snow we had you left
black ice in the parking in the driveways. It just
it got me thinking, I'm like, why am I shelling
out my own money right to go buy fireflakes and

(19:03):
salt and to go get really expensive shovels, like, I'm
glad I have them, and I've had no problem doing
this in the past, but now I'm.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Like, you know what we pay for this.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
You're like, I want my place pre treated and don't
put those mountains on my driveway.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
Yeah, of course.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
And when I make a phone call to the people
about it then run things, They're like, well, you know, yeah,
we can't really jald On because of the cruise A're
not going.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
To be around.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
We live in a cul de sac. I have no
idea if the Hoa people are going to get any
snowplow on our street anytime soon. I hope to God
at least there's one pass today, and that's all I
can hope for.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
Well, two things.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Number one, if anybody wants to make a little extra
money eight sixty six nineteen seven forty three sixty one,
find me on the Toby and Chili page. I'm Toby Napp.
You can DM me, get me on social media, be
like yo, I'm game. And in the meantime, hang on
a second, what are you doing over there logging into
the community message board.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Maybe there are some enterprising yeads.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
There are some teenagers, possibly want to.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I don't know, maybe make your monday to make my Monday,
but I don't want to be selfish about it. But anyway,
help you got speaking to make your Monday. Guess what
happens when you pair a pro sports team with a library.
Stuff that'll make you feel good. Find out what it
is in the next twenty minutes right here on Mondays
here at ninety seven point one WATCHFM with Toby and

(20:19):
Chilly in the morning. What do you like to find
these stories that really do make your Monday? Because they're
just good and there's enough bad in the news as
it is. And this is about the library teaming up
with your Washington Wizards.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
Yeah's the DC Public Libraries Winter Reading Challenge. It's taking
place from now until February twenty eighth, and they're offering
kids a chance to win some exciting prizes from the Wizard.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
And the ging goes like this, there's a Bengal Bard.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
It's filled with activities like bringing a friend to the library,
drawing a character from a book. I do that badly,
but it's not about me. It's about you listening or
asking the librarian for a recommendation. And it's all geared
around children between the ages of five to nineteen. Does
that mean we can't jump in at our age?

Speaker 3 (21:07):
All, No, we can't. I mean they're trying to get
youngsters to really get engaged with reading during the winter months,
and playing this little bingo game helps them do that.
And they're being encouraged to pair twenty minutes of exercise
with twenty minutes of reading every day to develop consistent
reading habits and improve their skills.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
That's what's up. Physical and mental fitness. The two really
do go hand in hand. And you never know to
kind of paraphrase reading Rainbow. Take a look, it's in
a book. It might spark interest to reading Rainbow.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
And if they complete that Bingo card, they can claim
prizes like customizable wizard's jerseys, some fan packs, even bookmarks
and mini basketball hoops, so many things like tickets to
the game as well.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
And the Winter Reading Challenge is happening now through February
twenty eighth. February twenty eighth. Bingo boards available in person
and online if you need the and if you want
to share this with maybe some people you might know
who might really want to get into this, tell me

Top stories top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
The federal government and the schools and the DC area.
They're closed today because of the first major snowfall of
the season. Meanwhile, Congress is still set to meet at
one o'clock this afternoon to certify the results of the
twenty twenty four election at US Capitol. Police say that
heavy security is in place for the counting and certification
of the electoral vote. Local commuters should be checking their

(22:45):
bus and train routes closely. Today. Metro System is implementing
its moderate bad weather service plan. They reduced the number
of bus routes from one ninety three to one point fourteen.
Of course, some delays also expected on Metro trains, although
any service reductions are going to be determined throughout the day.
If you're off or you want to take a break.

(23:06):
The DC Snowball Fight Association has chosen Meridian Hill Park
as a place for their annual well traditional I should
say snowball fight that's just north of the White House
and it's starting at eleven o'clock this morning. The Washington
Commanders are going to be entering the playoffs as the
sixth seed in the NFC after beating the Cowboys twenty
three to nineteen. The Commanders are going to be going

(23:28):
to Tampa to take on the Buccaneers and the wild
card playoff round next Sunday night. And a fitness company,
they looked at every state's access to healthcare, food prices,
as well as how healthy residents feel and whether they've
got good habits with nutrition and fitness. And based on
all that, Hawaii is the healthiest state in the country,
but Maryland came in tenth. Not bad forecast today it

(23:51):
is a winter wonderland. You can get anywhere from six
to twelve inches depending on where you live. Most of
the snow tapering off early this afternoon, some more ries
maybe this evening. Hi's only around twenty seven right now
twenty four in False Church.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
So what does this mean for travel later on this afternoon?
Are flight's actually going to happen out of the three
area airports?

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (24:11):
Or no?

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Have they already been canceled?

Speaker 2 (24:13):
We don't know what is the timeline, what's really going
to happen with school tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (24:16):
We have questions.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
The Notorious VDG Brian Vandergraf has all of the answers.
Brian vandergrafh who is by the way, from.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
ABC seven First Alert Meteorologists always get that wrong.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Well, he'll tell us what we can expect through the
rest of the day and maybe even into tomorrow and
beyond coming up next.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Yes, guess what that's not?

Speaker 2 (24:39):
No, No, it's just well, okay, whatever, Toby and Chilly
in the morning at sety seven point one watch FM.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
You already know what it is, and so let's get
the rundown. How do we say it? Chilly this morning?

Speaker 3 (24:51):
ABC seven First Alert Meteorologist Brian Vandergraff.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
Aka the Notorious VDG Andy, what's up.

Speaker 5 (24:59):
It's been a while we've had a decent snowstorm into
the NB, so I'm excited to actually have a snow day.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Talk about the timeline and people are waking up to snow.
What's going to be happening? Is there going to be
a break and total inches?

Speaker 5 (25:12):
Yeah? No, I think it's kind of a morning ready's
lunchtime kind of deal. It happened overnight while a lot
of us sweat that started. I think we'll see some
heavy bands right what would through be the normal morning rush,
and luckily they're hoping won't be one, because you know,
a lot of folks are off. I think they we'll
see this off and on before tapering off round mid
day and then through the afternoon. I think we'll get
a little bit of all in the action, and there
could be a little bit more like snowlater tonight on

(25:33):
the backside, but I think the bulk of this really
is the first half of the day, and then maybe
for the back half of the day you can get
down and enjoy it. We're doing a general like six
to twelve inches of snow. I think a lot of
neighborhoods could get close to the double digits, and certain
spots will be a sweet spot that might be on
the higher end. But I think we're all good for
at least a half foot. But it's all shoveable across
the region. I think we're all pretty much uniform, maybe
a little lesser amounts far southern Maryland towards central Virginia

(25:55):
where they may see a little bit of sleep mixing in.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
If you were to predict, do you think that they're
going to be off again tomorrow?

Speaker 4 (26:01):
I do.

Speaker 5 (26:02):
I mean, first of all, we even have a time
to like get them started melted, but we're not getting
about freezing today, and then overnights can be cold, so
everything is just going to be kind of icy throughout
the first half of the day tomorrow, So it might
take another day of melting and things before we get
back to normal.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Now, let's talk about travel.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
My daughter is supposed to be flying back to Boston
from BWI in Southwest today. The afternoon flights at BWI
aren't canceled. I'm not sure about the status at Reagan
and DC aread. What do you think is going to
happen with travel plans?

Speaker 5 (26:31):
Oah, Man, Well, this is a storm that is, you know,
a kind of a mid Atlantic, but it's been from
the Midwest kind of due east, working its way towards
the Eastern seaboard. So there are a lot of US
cities in the mix there that are all impacted, and
I think there are planes that probably didn't make it
in and won't make it out. So I would definitely
call ahead because I'm sure when we talk to our
reporters throughout the day at the airport, you're going to
see a lot of red up on the board because

(26:52):
planes is there's not going to be where they need
to be with all the weather that's happening across the nation.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
And I don't mean to not enjoy our current situation,
but I heard a rumor we might be getting some
more snow this coming weekend.

Speaker 5 (27:03):
Is that true? Yeah, the models flipopped on me this morning.
The one that said no snow now says yes, and
the one that said yes now says no. So that
point is there's a chance on Saturday. But when you're
this many days out and they're flip flopping, we're watching it.
We'll keep you posted. We're not ready to pin that down.
Just yeah, let's get through store number one.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe, Brian,
what
