The Caps have a farm league team that's been doing
something pretty incredible up the road in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where
there's lots of chocolate, lots of smiles. It's ninety seven
point one WASCHFM. We're tell me in Chili in the morning.
One of the things they do is they throw teddy
bears on the ice, I guess to raise awareness for
a certain cause. And well, Chili, they broke a record.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
They sure did. They're Teddy Bear toss They got one
hundred thousand Teddy Bears during their game, and we're fortunate
of right now to have their in game announcer Bob
Howard on the phone. Bob tell us about the origins
of this amazing event.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Well, it turns out people like to throw things. I
think that's one of the first things come back to,
is like, give them an opportunity to throw something people
were all in. Secondly, you give them the right cause
that you kind of alluded to. We talk about supporting
Children's Miracle Network and our local children's hospital here in
central Pennsylvania. So you have those two things, and then
the final piece and every Caps fans aware of that
(00:56):
Hershey Bears connection. There's franchise, the Herita franch Harry's franchise
with an awesome fan base to get find things like that,
So they decided, well, we'll do a game where we
score a goal. The first goal we score, they start
throwing teddy Bears out of the eight and then within
a short span time, we've excuated one hundred two thousand
Teddy Bears in one game.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Wow, and you were there for all of it? What
was it like?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Tweet cud and Mayhem, as our play by play guy
Zach Fish would say too, I mean it is. It's
such a fight and it becomes an event. People start
planning now for the next year, Like they start collecting
teddy Bears. We had one fan who was personally responsible
for forty thousand teddy Bears that we're talking about bringing
(01:41):
two or three tractor trailers they back up to the
back of the barn of a Giant center here in Hershey.
And I mentioned the players too. We talked about a
lot of the Caps who have been part of this,
you know, Dylan mcelratch on, Carlson Mirashenko, these guys coming.
It's a big deal for them to be the one
to score the Teddy Bear toss goal and it's this,
I mean, it becomes something that is so special for them.
(02:04):
They have their families out on the ice of a
part of it too. It's become such an amazing, i mean,
world record breaking event that it's amazing be a part
of that's awesome.
