Wakem It gets my day going. It makes me lamb. I love it.
Mac and Schmitty in the morning onStar one oh five point seven,
Come morning, Smitty, Oh goodmorning. More importantly, I think,
right T G I F Yeah,yeah, big time. Welcome into this
Friday. Yes, it starts abit like yesterday. We got some rain

(00:24):
showers popping up here and there aroundWest Michigan. Temp sent them in forties
down there, we'll see highs intothe low fifties. The thing today that's
going to be kind of annoying iswith these colder temperatures, is going to
be windy, wendy windy day acrossWest Michigan. Actual wind advisory that goes
I believe eight am today till twoa m. Saturday, So we're talking

(00:44):
gusts of over fifty miles an hour. I'm just thinking, if you're like
me and you put all that fabulouspatio furniture out last week, you're don't
want to anchor that down a bitbecause go fly. I was actually just
proud of myself for covering it allup before the rain came. We always,
I feel like, especially early onin the spring, always just sort
of oh, we put out thepatio furniture, and then forget about it
when those first big torrential spring rainscome and just let all of our stuff

(01:08):
get talking, nasty and everything else, never fun, movies, music,
and all the gossip in one place. It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh
five point seven. So let's getto the breaking news. Yesterday, shortly
after the show finished, we learnedof the passing of OJ Simpson, seventy
six years old, and now we'relearning some more details. Sources close to

(01:33):
ojsa he was in fact diagnosed withprostate cancer that took quite a heavy toll
on his health over the past year. He didn't talk a whole ton about
this. He posted a video toTwitter back in May of last year where
he did tell fans that he wasundergoing chemo. I heard pop was pretty
good, you know, gummies andstuff was pretty good for the nausea,

(01:55):
and they said, yeah, yeah, it does work. I got to
be honest with you. I startedsmoking a little bit of a couple of
pluffs today and I've only had nanjatwice in my whole I'm over to COVID
to them, I mean, Imean, I'm sorry. The chemo.
I'm over there. I had COVIDand cancer at the same time. Yeah,
friends say, despite the brave face, the cancer was not at all

(02:17):
in remission and greatly impacted his healthand his physical states seriously deteriorated over the
past eleven months. So he'd beenin hospice care and the call was made
that he was probably transitioning to theother side. It's very interesting to learn
some of the people that were athis bedside when he passed. It includes

(02:38):
all of his living kids, eventhe two he had with Nicole Brown Simpson.
Everyone who came to visit oj athis home had to sign NDA's for
privacy. It was about thirty tofifty people between friends and family and medical
personnel. No phones were allowed inthe room. No official word on when
his four kids arrived, but itdid include Dy and Justin as well as

(03:01):
his two older kids, Jason andArnell, that were there. But we
won't get many details, like Isaid, with those NDAs being signed.
You know, it's obviously a complicatedthing to think about. Ojy's life is
oh ooh boy in total, Yeah, listen at the seven o'clock scoop.
I'll tell you what people online weresaying the memes were not kind. Well,

(03:21):
and I can't imagine being one ofthose kids. I mean, that's
an unbelievable situation to be in it. Well, they've never publicly talked about
this because a lot of people weresurprised to hear that his kids with Nicole
were there. They are in theirlate thirties now, so it'll be interesting
to see. I've got to tellyou, though, peen Or Nutt had
some things to say. I Spiesis dipping her toe into acting. The

(03:45):
rapper has just been cast in SpikeLee's new feature film, and she's going
to be acting alongside Denzel Washington.Girlfriend has had a year, of course,
one of Taylor's Swift's bff's. She'sdone a few tour stops with her.
They obviously collaborated on this Karma remixtogether, and she's now set to
appear in Spike's reinterpretation of the nineteensixty three thriller High and Low. There's

(04:10):
some other really big names in thisas well. By the way, Ice
is looking to have a pretty bigyear. May I remind you she has
not even released her first album yet. Why two Que not set to drop
until later this year. So thisis gonna be a very big deal.
I mean, Spike Lee and DenzelWashington kind of can't go wrong there.

(04:30):
Yeah, finally the Royals will bebag Megan Markele and Prince Harry launching two
new shows for streaming giant Netflix.According to Deadline, the former senior Royals
are in production for a new cooking, gardening lifestyle show that stars Megan's This
pretty perfect considering she just restarted herblog inspired by her new American riviera orchard

(04:56):
business. But check this out.The same executive producer behind Selena and Chef
That's Selena Gomez's show and Anthony BourdainParts unknown are going to be a part
of this project. The second showis leaning towards Harry's passions. They're launching
a series about the professional polo worldand they have tapped Welcome to Wrexham's producer

(05:18):
for that. So these are goingto be very very big deals. That
is interesting. They both sound likehoidy toity, super rich care, you
know, just catering shows a littlebit. All of your celeb scoop at
West Michigan Star dot Com. Goodat it to you. It's back at
Schmidty and I want to talk toyou, Schmitt about things that you've managed
to avoid for your entire life.Because I know we've talked before. My

(05:42):
wife's never been stung by a beast, never smoked a cigarette. You,
right off the bat, I knowyou're gonna you got to mention that you've
never had a cavity, no avoideda cavity your entire life. Stuff that
doesn't even make sense to me.But none of those Schmitty compared to what
my friend just told me. Myfriend Josh a friend from Kyle, and
he just had his first his firstkid. He had a little boy about

(06:03):
four months ago, a little bitlater than a lot of my friends had
kids. He's thirty nine years old, but his wife is only twenty nine,
and he's been working his butt offever since college. The dude is
I mean, he's loaded and hejust had this kid four months ago.
He travels a ton for work, but his wife does not work. She
is a stay at home mom. They're planning on her being a stay at

(06:25):
home mom, and since the babyhas arrived, they have also had a
nanny with them every single day.I feel like I know what you're about
to say, and I'm going torail so hard on that you should because
this is because he told me this, thinking that I would be like,
I don't know, think it wasfunny or impressed, and as a dad,
I was just like, huh,he has yet to change a poopy

(06:46):
diaper. Yeah, and he alsois an only child, so never in
his life has he once changed apoopy diaper. And he goes, look,
man, he goes, I've changed, you know, a bunch of
peat, you know, but it'sand it's not like I'm even avoiding it.
He goes, it just didn't happenfor the first two and a half
months sort of organically, and thensince then it's just been something that I

(07:12):
haven't done because there's been somebody elsewho immediately is like I got it,
and I haven't said a word.And he goes, I think I might
be able to go my whole lifewithout changing one Poopy's terrible. It's just
never organically happened because I sleep throughthe night and don't hear anything and I
don't pay attention to anything like ooh, my life is boiling over this,

(07:34):
dude. The crazy part was isthat he was he told me this as
he's telling me how much. He'sloving being to dad. Oh, I'm
sure he doesn't have to do anything. I really love, like when my
baby sits on my lap while I'mwatching golf. I really love when he's
us sleep and I'm talking to me. Yesterday while I was watching highlights from

(07:54):
the Masters and holding this good I'msorry. That's an absent dad. That's
a one hundred. That poor life. I go, Hey, I go,
I go. Honestly, I wouldnot be I would not be trying
to aspire to that goal because Ican tell you this. If you don't
wind up changing some poopy diapers, maybe your wife hasn't said anything to you
yet, she's got a nanny hangingout with her right now. But I

(08:16):
can tell you this, if thiscontinues or even where you're at right now,
your wife will never forget it,ever forget it. You will be
reminded of it. You will beresented for it, and deservedly. So
I want to step further. Shenot your wife for much longer. Dude,
time to step up and I don'tknow, be a dad. This,
Oh, this kills me. Thisis the guy that probably goes to

(08:37):
Meyer like one time and everybody's like, oh my gosh, what a great
dad, because she's a glorified babysitter. Quite possibly, he's you know what,
I'm gonna hope that things turn aroundfor him. Like I said,
he by the way later in life. I mean it, don't be bragging,
bro, he really did. Butlike, what is it in life
that you've managed to just kind ofavoid not poopy diapers, in fact,

(09:03):
not even not even poopy undies.Because we're in the middle of body training
right now and I've had plenty ofthose. I've been amazed with what people
said on there because I mean,of course, you see some of the
ones that are more common, youknow, never had a cigarette, never
got a tattoo, never broken abone. But how about some of the
more wild ones. Never flown inan airplane, like Wendy at fifty six.
I feel like you're afraid of fly. That's a big one there,
Schmidty, Mandy McGregor and Rockford goingthrough a car wash. I'm terrified of

(09:28):
them. Yeah, you've never gonethrough one in your whole life. I
have a friend of mine that's neverdone that because she does not like the
whole trying to line your tires upwith the track. Yeah, and I
think there was a really terrifying scenein like a Final Destination movie where someone
like fell down a hole. Myfriend has never done an oil change for
that reason. Really, her husbanddoes it because she doesn't like that wide
open piece of floor. You know, I actually am always afraid that I'm

(09:50):
gonna screw that up and somehow falldown on top of that person, Bonnie
said, buying anything from Walmart, never been in one. How do you
not get to a wom sometimes becauseI'd get a good feeling. Yes,
it's just easier to get feeling goodon a Friday. But we're here to
lift those spirits all the same.Feeling good right now on Starminal five points

(10:11):
step. But it's Mack and Schmidty. And of course, yeah, you
saw all the cute pets, allthe fur babies all over your social media
timelines yesterday. Of course it wasNational Pet Day yesterday. And my favorite
post came from the Kentwood Police DepartmentSMITTI, because they announced a brand new
officer a few months back. Alittle cat started hanging out with some of
the officers working the late shift, and pretty soon they decided to try and

(10:35):
find out this owner. They reallyliked the cat, We're giving it some
food, decided they try and contactthe owner. Well, the owner had
actually asked police if they would finda permanent home for the cat, and
the officers were more than happy tooblige. Guess what they named the cats,
Mitty? I mean, come onnow, right on the nose.
Cat's name is Donut. Oh,cat's name is Donut for these police officers.

(10:56):
And yesterday they made the announcement officialon National Pet Day, announcing that
Donuts was the newest member of theKentwood Police Department. As they have added
this feline officer to their team, they've microchipped Donuts and have been giving him
the spoiled life ever since. Butpretty cool that they've got their own force
cats over there in Kentwood. Now, well, those animal chip places have

(11:18):
popped up, kent would be oneof the first to get it. So
if you want to get your animalchip, and then if they get lost,
it's super easy for the police toreunite them with you. It's really
really smart. All right, let'stalk about the West Coast being the best
coast. Let's get some mood music. USA Today has named five Michigan towns
among the very best in the country. And guess what, they're all on

(11:41):
the west side. Sorry to troitSo this is very cool. USA today
was out with the best small towns. The only stipulation each town has to
have an established population under twenty fivethousand residents, so Ludington actually named the
nation's best historical small town. SagaTuck named the nation's second best small coastal

(12:03):
town. We saw Marquette finishing fifthas the nation's best small town cultural scene,
Traverse City making the list a coupletimes. I love it small town
food scene, and I love thisthe fourth best small town in the Midwest
period BATASKI yep, yep, awesometown for you. I'm just saying,

(12:24):
guys, listen. I know wejust got done with spring break. We
saw everybody posting from Florida and GulfShores and out west, but there are
so many beautiful places right here inpure Michigan and Tim Allen. If you
want me to join you for thatwhole campaign, I am ready. Hello.
Feeling good comes at you twice today. I always want to point out
the great things that are going on, especially when they're happening right here close

(12:46):
to home. We'll do it againfor you today nine to twenty another round
of feeling good here on Scott Movies, Music and all the gossip in one
place. It's the Celebritiescoop on Starone oh five point seven. Well,
we're slowly getting more details on thepassing of O. J. Simpson the
news broke yesterday, seventy six yearsold and according to sources, so coming

(13:07):
to his battle with prostate cancer. It's interesting because there were quite a few
family and friends by his side asyou passed, including all four of his
kids his two older children, Jasonand Arnell, as well as his two
children with Nicole, Sydney and Justinwho were there. Sources say that thirty

(13:28):
to fifty family and friends came tosee him before he passed. All had
to sign NDA's for privacy and nophones were allowed in the room. Now
not surprising. It's twenty twenty fourand we have the Internet. The memes
that popped up yesterday after this newsbroke did not disappoint. Several people photoshopping

(13:52):
that infamous white Ford bronco into aBronco. Hearse a lot of people sharing
spill orange juice memes. One userat Bob Jankie writing O. J.
Simpson died. They said it wascancer, but they're hoping an autopsy will
find the real killer. I mean, yeah, the polarizing figure. Right.

(14:15):
Meanwhile, Ron Goldman, of course, the father of Ooh, why
am I missing his name? I'msorry. Ron Goldman's father, pardon me.
Ron Goldman's family, his dad Fredput out a joint statement alongside his
sister yesterday. They did not men'swords. For three decades, we tirelessly
pursued justice for Ron and Nicole indespite a civil judgment and his confession in

(14:39):
If I Did It, the bookhe came out with in two thousand and
seven. The hope for true accountabilityhas ended. The Goldman say they will
continue to advocate for victims. Endedthe statement by thanking everyone and said,
honestly, the hardest part about thisis realizing Ron has been gone for almost
thirty years. You know, Iasked you about this off Micah, a
little bit of GOSCHMIDI, but youknow, I am almost hoping that there

(15:00):
would be some sort of deathbed confession. There were a lot of rumors about
that MC not because they ever doubtedthat he did it, but at the
same time to just alleviate that perceptionaround in the public that maybe he didn't.
Yeah, author JK. Rowling hasabsolutely no plans to make up with
former Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe andEmma Watson. The controversial author faced immense

(15:24):
backlash, of course, for heranti transgender views over the past few years,
something both Daniel and Emma have calledher out for. Well. She
posted to x the other day aboutsome new legislation lambasting gender care treatments.
When someone said, I'm just waitingfor Dan and Emma to give you a
very public apology, safe in theknowledge that you will forgive them, JK

(15:45):
responding saying, not safe. I'mafraid celebs who cozied up to a movement
intent on eroding women's hard one rightsand who used their platforms to cheer on
the transitioning of minors can save theirapologies for traumatized de transitioners and vulnerable women
reliant on single sex spaces AKA.She has absolutely no desire to even communicate

(16:07):
with them anymore. I mean,it's just sad, like, it's awful
all the way around that you havethis much of a hill to die on
over this particular subject that you're like, Nope, I'm cutting people out of
my life from telling the whole world. Finally we've got new dual Leap Up.
Fans have been very excited for thisas we are waiting for that new

(16:30):
album, Radical Optimism. Dua actuallytalked about that scene a couple of years
ago. Her friend introduced her tothat term radical optimism. She says,
it's a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I
started to play with it and weaveit into my life. It struck me
the idea of going through chaos gracefullyand feeling like you can weather any storm.

(16:52):
Well, the third single off ofthat new album, which drops May
third, has been released today, very very good. This is Illusion your
West Michigan World premiere. Dua Lipaon Star one oh five points seven got
the video for you with your scoopat West Michigan's Star dot com. Well,
let's talk b day, Shitty,It's start one on five point seven
Mack. It's ready with you becauseyours just got her three year old birthday

(17:18):
last night, little Fee. Iloved it. I officially have a three
major. As people have been warningme, I was gonna say, just
so you know, when people talkabout terrible twos, three is nothing so
much worse. Terrible twos are nothing. But I'm wondering what your best birthday
is. I feel like everyone hasa really, really memorable birthday because she
got to do all the things thatshe loves yesterday. So Thursdays are typically

(17:42):
donut day. It's her, It'sjust her and my husband. She goes
to school three days a week,so after they drop my son off,
they go and have Sandy's Donuts togetherevery Thursday, so she got a special
birthday Donut Day. Then she wentto the Frederick Myer Gardens to see the
butterflies. Then they went to Costco. She just loves Costco. Marry she's

(18:03):
a good time. And then lastnight for dinner she got sushi. So
she's just had me till then.Best day. And I had talked about
her over on one of my othershows on wood which I know they have
on on their way to school, and I had said like a happy birthday
message to her, and she waslistening, and so I had used her
name like Sophia Marie. I justlove you, Happy birthday, and I

(18:26):
can't wait to celebrate tonight and havesushi. So when I got home yesterday
and my husband said, oh mygosh, she lost her mind in the
car because she immediately snapped to attentionhearing her name coming through the speaker from
your voice, from my voice, right, and then she heard about sushi
and she goes yushi after Dona dayand I got home and she gives me

(18:47):
this huge hug and she goes hushiright now, not birthday ever. I
was like, I'm savoring it becauseI know not for very much longer.
Amberst me, Yeah, fair, this is not gonna be the It's the
only one right that I can saysomething on the radio and have her be
like, this is the best dayever. Like you know, in a

(19:08):
few years, it's gonna be like, oh what, no car, You
guys are nothing to me. AndI'm thinking to myself, there's so many
memorable birthdays, and I love birthdays. I'm never someone to shy away from
that. And I know someone alwayshas a memorable birthday, for instance,
like when I turned thirteen. Itwas two thousand and one, and I
turned thirteen the day after, maybea couple days after the Michigan statement's basketball

(19:33):
team took the national championship right afterthe riots, right yeah, right after
the riots. But I remember onmy birthdays when they did the huge parade
through East Lansing, and my mom, being the mom who she was,
was like, well, you know, honey, it was like mostly for
your birthday, and I got totake all my friends and we got these
special seats they had organized. Wegot food, and we got to go
out to like my favorite restaurant andEast Lansing. I will forever remember that

(19:56):
birthday because, like, it probablyfed who I So I was like,
this isn't for the spartans. Thisis for the fact that I'm turning the
big one three and finally a teenager. These people have gathered to celebrate me.
Right, Like, do you havea memorable birthday that just sticks out
to you? A couple of them, but the one that immediately popped my
mind when I saw this question. And I don't mean to be a downer,

(20:17):
because it's not how I think aboutit. My twentieth birthday was my
last birthday with my mom, butit was so special because she took me
to see Leme's rob Oh that's rightat the Fisher Theater in Detroit, and
you know, she and I sharedthis love of theater that she really introduced
me to as a kid. Andso that's the birthday that always pops up
in my head immediately when I seeit because I was blown away by the

(20:37):
show. I knew all the music, I loved all the songs, but
it was just it was my momand I on this like sort of you
know, date where I was aman. I felt like at that point
I was twenty years old. Yeah, it was really, really, really
special. So that's the one thatalways pops up for me. That's always
lovely. I got a really wonderfulmessage from Sierra and she said, I
can remember the best birthday ever.I was a sophomore in high school and

(21:00):
my parents pulled me out of schoolfor what they told me was a doctor's
appointment. She said, I couldn'tbelieve it. It was actually a day
for my birthday. It turns outmy best friend's mom pulled her out to
We went out to Grand Havens, spent the day on the beach, we
got to eat on a big patio, and then at night we went and
saw one of my most favorite movies. And she said, I will forever

(21:22):
remember that because especially my parents nevertook me out of school for anything.
I as a fellow teacher. Didyou hear that? But she said,
I am at thirty eight today andthat was by far my coolest birth Happy
birthday. Isn't that cool? Thatis very cool? What a good one?
What was your most memorable birthday? And maybe it wasn't yours, Maybe
it was something you threw for yourkids six one, six, four,

(21:44):
five, eight, one oh fiveseven, Because it made me finally feel
like a decent parent. Oh,I love Thathi. She had her best.
She she did ten rolls. Sheput down seven rolls in twenty two
minutes. Next year, you gotto go all you can eat for that.
Oh, let's do it. Schmittti, it is another round of tea
time here unstarted five point seven andthis one in Schmitty I think an interesting

(22:07):
one, especially if you can thinkback to your youth of going on spring
break when you were in high school. Hey mns. For spring break,
my family went to Golf Shores witha big group of seven families. Some
were close with it. If youwe don't know well, but our kids
are classmates. One of the lastdays there, my husband and I were
walking on the beach when we sawone of the boys from our group standing

(22:29):
next to a police officer and pouringout a bottle of vodka. Our son
told us that the kid, eighteenyears old, got a mip. We
didn't hear a word about it fromanyone on the trip, and our son
told us this week that the kid'sparents still don't know. I want I'd
want to know if it were mykid, but my son has begged me

(22:51):
not to say anything. Oh well, yeah, you don't want your parents
to be the narks. No,of course not. But at the same
time, like when we put thisup there, I was kind of surprised
because at first it looked like everyone'slike, don't say a word, don't
say a word. And that kindof surprised me just because you know,
I'm assuming an eighteen year old kid, but we're in the spring of the
year. I assume this is likea high school senior. I think,

(23:11):
I want to know if my kidsin high school, what do you think
there? Would you want I wantto know? Yes, would I say
anything? Probably not, not gonnasay a word. You can say the
deal like I he didn't because Isee it. One one of the comments
said, you know, he confidedin you. No, you were at
the right place at the right time, and watch it happened. I do

(23:32):
think it's really interesting to bring up. Like Stacy said, he's gonna have
to go back to golf Shores forcourt. You get an MP's work.
I haven't gotten I haven't gotten it. I've never gotten an mi IP.
But I'm pretty certain you still haveto go back to the place. How
much would you like to be theeighteen year old that's like, you know
what? This weekend, I'm tellingyou I'm staying over at a friend's house
and really I'm driving twenty four hoursstraight through to Here's the deal. You

(23:56):
can't afford the gas, you can'tafford the plane ticket. The parents are
finding out at some point, andyou don't have your own residence, so
at some point, the letters andall of that getting sent to your house
where your parents live. I'll behonest with you, though, there is
a part of me they can thinkback to being an eight year old and
an eighteen year old kid who madesome questionable decisions from time to time,
and thinking that you were going toget away with this for life. Look

(24:18):
that this was never going to evercome out in a million, so as
the other parents just sit back andwait, because there ain't no way these
parents aren't finding out. Weigh inon this and check out some of the
wild comments on here too. We'vegot enough on our Facebook at West Michigan
Star. And every week we needyour guys's tea. Yeah, you can
email us, so we're DMUs.We do keep you fully anonymous. So
if it's something real juicy, trustme, your neighbors won't know. At

(24:41):
West Michigan Star, Movies, musicand all the gossip in one place,
it's the celebrity Scoop on Star oneoh five point seven. Ah, sorry,
Bachelor Nation, I'm about to breakyour hearts breaking scoop. The Golden
Bachelor couple Jerry Turner and and wifeTeresa are divorcing. The couple who fell

(25:03):
in love on the first season ofThe Golden Bachelor Last Ball before tying the
knot in a televised wedding just fourmonths ago, announced the news this morning.
They're actually going to be joining GoodMorning America later on this hour to
give a very emotional interview, butgoing their separate ways. I'm gonna have
to call my wife and check unermake sure she's doing okay. She's very

(25:26):
invested in these I mean, thisis like, do people really still watch
these shows? Like absolutely religious?Buddy last I'm looking through the comments on
GMA and everybody's like, wow,let me pick my job off the floor.
Next, this is some interesting rumorthat I know the Swifties are going
wild for. Is Taylor Swift finallyready to enter her movie era? She

(25:51):
might be appearing in the upcoming Deadpooland Wolverine movie. So. Sean Levy
was at CinemaCon in Vegas yesterday talkingwith Entertainment Tonight. Now there's been rumors
linking Swift to the role of Marvel'sDazzler. She was seen with a few
different stars of the movie, includingHugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. Of course,

(26:15):
you know her and Ryan are supersuper close. All Sean would say
that is hardly confirmed nor denied. In this interview, he said, listen,
here's the deal. I'm gonna literallywalk out a frame right now and
save myself. Otherwise Ryan is takinga hit out on me. Honestly,
Like, because Ryan Reynolds is soridiculous and hilarious, I fully expect this

(26:38):
to happen. And I also expectsomething outrageous to happen to her character within
like ten seconds, like Taylor willpop on there and then she'll be decapitated.
It'll be something, you know, just a reverend be interested to know
when she would have done this.So the film is debuting July twenty sixth,
so to be fair, she wouldhave filmed way before the arastor I'm

(26:59):
gonna have plenty of time to doso. Finally, speaking of Taylor Swift,
her boyfriend Travis Kelsey finally has hiscollege diploma. Travis and his brother
Jason officially graduated from the University ofCincinnati last night, awarded their diplomas at
the end of their New Heights Liveshow. This is so fantastic. In
true form, Travis went all in. That's him shot gunning up beer on

(27:27):
stage. It's kind of his signaturemove at this point, after well,
I think you're thinking of Jason, true Jason, but turns out they will
both shotgun beers. He then fistpumps to the Crown, who goes wild
again before saying you've got a fightfor your right dub party. Travis,

(27:48):

Battle of the Sexies every weekday eightfifteen. Here on start one oh five
point seven. Sometimes because I geta good Well, you know that April
is Autism Awareness Month and there isa mom on the east side of the
state that has discovered a beautiful wayto connect with kids in a uniquely different

(31:11):
way, and that's art. ChristyStratford has always been very passionate about her
pen and ink drawings. The WashingtonawCounty Artists' pictures may first look like something,
and then when you get up close, you realize they're countless tiny images
that make something. And it's agood thing. She's mastered this craft because

(31:32):
it has been so impactful for herson, Chad. When Chad was three,
he was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Now, at twenty five,
Christy sat down with WXYZ, sayingshe didn't know at first how to get
to him. When Chad was firstdiagnosed with autism. I wasn't sure really
how to reach him. So Iknew did with what I knew, which

(31:52):
was art and drawing little books Ilike, for example, this one's the
boy that walked on the Moon.He liked the moon in the galaxy him
this little book and he could readit if I helped him. Now,
Christy is officially a paraprofessional helping otherkids with special needs in the wood Haven
Brownstown School district. She says itfeels easy she does what she knows.

(32:15):
I would be their pair of forthings, but when it came to tests
and study guide, I went withwhat I knew and I drew. It's
made a massive difference, ask PatrickHenry, Middle school teacher, Paula Ray,
who said, these kids are somuch more engaged in lessons in life.
They were able to connect more. They have seen such growth, all

(32:38):
thanks to a mom with a sonthat came up with a great idea.
I mean that's really cool. Andas you said, Autism Awareness Month and
it's things like this to just showyou how we're just still scratching the surface
on different ways to help people whohave varying degrees on the spectrumd well Man,
isn't it always a mom? Yeah, you're not wrong about that spending.
This story is everywhere the last dayor so, here did you see

(33:00):
this? Three men were trying tofish in the waters in Micronesia and along
this island chain that has like sixhundred islands between Hawaii and the Philippine Schmidty
and their twenty foot open skiff gotcaught up by some swells. Their motor
was damaged and they were able tomake their way over to an uninhabited island
called Pike Lot, but unfortunately theirradio had no battery was dead. So

(33:25):
these guys. This happened on Marchthirty first, and a rescue call from
one of their relatives came in onApril six, so already for a month,
these guys had been on this desertedisland Schmidty, and while they were
there they found a well. Theyhad been living off a coconut meat for
the last week, and they decidedthey would make a giant help sign with
palm trees and palm frands on theWhite Sandy Beach right on this uninhabited thirty

(33:49):
one acre island. Well. Thatturned out to be the thing that would
save their lives because they put outa rescue mission with a boat and an
aircraft in the area. But thesehad to search over a seventy eight thousand
not a mile area, so reallyreally hard to find the aircraft. They
said, without that help sign there, they would have never stopped. They
would have never noticed it. Butthey were able to see that it was

(34:13):
there. They dropped down survival packsto the men. The next day they
got a radio to the guys, and then finally, just on Tuesday,
a US Coast Guard ship was ableto show up the Oliver Henry and get
THISHMANI this is the wildest part ofthe whole thing. As they are being
rescued, one of the men onthe Oliver Henry was named Eugene Halliss.

(34:35):
He happened to be third cousins withone of the guys who was stranded on
the island Roots episode fourth cousins withthe other two guys because they were also
related. Sounds like a Netflix movie. I mean, absolutely unbelievable. The
guys are doing good, everybody's beenrescued. Just an unbelievable story. Get
