(00:02):
Wait, wakem It gets my daygoing and makes me laugh it. Mac
and Schmitty in the morning on Starone oh five point seven. Way,
I'll good morning, Schmitty. Hey, good morning. Welcome in too,
and hopefully you had a great weekendat Chili weekend to say the least.
Man. Yeah, we're talking aboutthat coming up at seven to ten this
(00:23):
morning. Oh but today a littlebit warmer. We're gonna see some sunny
skies and temps get up a littleover sixty degrees around Wosta, West Michigan
today And you said how cold itwas. Yeah, I'm looking at the
ten day and last this Saturday, what we hit the thirties for most of
the day. It felt like this. We're gonna talk about if you were
out watching sports this weekend, boyoh boy. Well, and then next
Saturday it looks like possibly mid seventies. I mean just West Michigan. Do
(00:46):
will be in the up so it'llbe snowing. It's all my people in
the Great White North, movies, music, and all the gossip in one
place. It's the celebrity scoop onStar one oh five point seven. Well,
he laughed it off pretty well.American Idol judge Luke Bryan absolutely yard
sailing on stage over the weekend. He was at the Coast City Country Festival
(01:08):
in Vancouver, hyping up his nextsong when he was walking across the stage
and all of a sudden slip, not any kind of slip, both the
shot out from under him. Youcan hear the moment that the audience gasps
before he realizes he had slipped ona phone. It's okay, hey will
(01:30):
call Yeah. It looks like afan had tossed their phone on stage,
hoping that Luke would somehow grab it, maybe take a video or something,
when instead it looks like he steppedon it, slid and that shot his
feet out from under him. Helaughed it off, like I said,
treated it pretty well. But whenyou look back at the video, one
fan posted saying the phone wasn't eventhere. This was just some slippery cowboy
(01:56):
boots and luckily he wasn't seriously injured. But you could see him grabbing his
elbow for the rest of the show, man like doing a little splits on
the stage right there. I shallhave been there. Melissa McCarthy defending her
royal friend Megan Markle, saying thereason she has experienced so much hate is
because people feel threatened by successful women, the actress, speaking with Page six
(02:17):
in a new video posted yesterday, for no reason, that people just like
to be attacked, and a smart, interesting woman that has her own life,
for some reason is incredibly threatening tosome people. And I always see
how inspiring. I've never once beendragged by someone who's amazing. I just
think how inspiring. So it's reallyon the people throwing the hate. It's
(02:38):
Megan's wonderful like strong women. Yeah, strong women. People just don't seem
to like Megan and Melissa. I'vebeen friends for a few years now,
and she said she's just been reallyreally sad to see so much vitual throw
in her way. Honestly, Inever knew those two were friends, and
I think it's the weirdest pairing possible. I think it's hilarious. I would
(03:00):
actually the two of them just seemso very different, one so outline.
Well, it's just done a tonof videos for Megan. She's been,
yeah, helping her out with abunch of stuff. Finally, United Airlines
has announced they're in their generous era. They just offered a deal thirteen percent
off flights just in time for noneother than Taylor Swift's return to the US.
(03:21):
So here's the deal. This wentdown a few days ago, but
the airline is dropping hints they mightdo this again a special thirteen percent discount.
Of course, thirteen happens to beTaylor's most favorite number on domestic flights
between August twenty first and November thirteenth, which aligns with when Swifties can catch
the singer's concerts in the US.Swift, of course, returns to America
(03:43):
in October to continue the ara's tourwith dates in Miami, New Orleans,
Indi and Toronto. These brands areso hilarious with everything that's hard to attach
themselves. The Taylor's Swift's Fame Unitedwas the same one that also did the
special Taylor Travis flights for the SuperBowl. All of your celeb scoop at
West Michigan dot com. Sometimes doesthat get a good feeling? Yeah,
(04:06):
ah, biddy, let's jump intosome positivity. We all need it on
a Monday morning. Feeling good. He's on starmto five point seven right now.
And let's celebrate some young loves, shall we. Because Elizabeth Hazer and
her fiance holding Blanco recently got engagedand they had dreamed of having their wedding
in Columbia, where Holden's family isbased. However, yeah, they just
(04:28):
bought a house together, so thewedding was postponed. They didn't really want
to wait to get married legally, and as a wedding photographer, Elizabeth kind
of you know, was a plannerherself that always sort of dreamed about what
she would do for her own wedding, and she knew she wanted to do
something unique. So it was timeafter buying that new house for the big
housewarming party. All the friends andfamily came over. Little did they know
(04:50):
that they would be in for oneincredible day for everyone there. Honey,
you owner a hot house on theyear, Yeah, incredible. You know
we bought this place son. Actuallywe didn't want to wait to get married
(05:15):
til then, so we're actually gonnaget married right now. That's right.
Surprised everybody who came over for theirbig house warming party with an impromptu wedding.
They told guests to give them aboutfifteen to twenty minutes to get everything
prepared, and then it was on. They had their dogs, their ring
bear, family and friends all inattendance the officiants, and they got married
(05:38):
right there in front of everyone.Might not be their dream Colombian wedding,
but certainly a beautiful day they won'tforget even better. I think all right.
Friday night, I was in Kalamazoofor something I feel very privileged to
be a part of. I hostedthe Fostering Futures Scholarship dinner. And if
you're not aware, this is anincredible program we have in Michigan where kids
(06:00):
that have been in foster care canactually get scholarship for higher education. And
every year we get to meet someonenew that has prospered from this program.
And it was a mind blowing evening. I want to make sure you hear
Kemia Bach's story. She's an immigrantrefugee from Kenya, but a very very
hard start to life. When shewas only eight years old, she lost
(06:23):
her mom and by ten her andher four other siblings were homeless. After
her dad passed away, the onlything she came here to the States with
was a suitcase and her four siblings. They came as unaccompanied refugee miners and
were right away placed into Bethany ChristianServices, but after a few unsuccessful foster
homes. The siblings were on theverge of being split when a willing heart
(06:46):
took all four of them in.They felt so much love in that home,
and that person happened to introduce themto people that knew all about this
scholarship, the Fostering Futures scholarship, and Camaia knew that she wanted to go
to college. But listen to thesefigures. Of the ten percent of foster
youth that end up even making itto college, less than three percent end
(07:06):
up graduating because they don't have asupport system. Here in Michigan, we
have seventeen campus coach programs throughout thestate that connect with youth on campus,
give them help twenty four to sevenmentorship, and navigate them through some really
tough times. And that's what thatdinner was all about. Raising money.
Hearing Camaya's story, it's pretty incredible. She's now at Western Michigan, She's
(07:29):
part of the SEDA scholar program andis on her way to big success.
That's happens to be one of themain reasons I have made it this for
through college, mainly because they havehelped me with navigating and going through college
is never meant to be a journeythat you have to take a loan.
You need a family, you needa community, you need people that will
(07:50):
be able to help you walk throughit. This woman is unbelievable. This
is when she sat down with TVeight. I got a chance to talk
to her Friday night. She willgraduate with a major in Global and international
studies as well as a minor innonprofit management. She's hoping to help young
people like her around the world. She's already started her own nonprofit called the
(08:13):
Hulner Foundation. She's working to helpimpoverished young girls and those in early childhood
marriages. And who was it namedafter the person that drives her none other
than mom. My Mom was mainlya woman that did really value education so
much, and she happens to bethe main reason why I'm the woman that
I am today, mainly because shehad always pushed me for better ever since
(08:37):
I was young, and she hadalways pushed me to stay four because of
my education. It's incredible and ifyou want to hear more, she has
opened up her heart about this andif you want to give, you can
always give. Check out the MichiganEducation Trust that's the organization behind this and
it goes to such an incredible movement. It really does. Wow. What
(08:58):
just an incredible your anyed an amazingyoung woman. It was a beautiful Friday
night. I'll have all that infofor you if you want to see her
story as well. West Michigan Stardot Com invite you to listen to it.
Feeling always here to highlight great thingsgoing on in our world. We'll
do it again for you this morning. Nine's funny right here on starwital Fuve
points seven movies, music and allthe gossip in one place. It's the
(09:20):
celebritiescoop on Star one oh five pointseven oooh. Could be a legal showdown
between David Beckham and Mark Wahlberg. The two fitness titans are squaring off because
David Beckham suing Mark's company over afitness deal that he says did not pan
out the way it was said.Beckham's company, dB Ventures alleges in the
(09:41):
lawsuit that f forty five Training that'sMark's company, well at least thirty six
percent of it is duped him intosigning on and serving as the company's chief
brand officer. So Beckham got reallytight with Mark when he moved down to
California to play for the La GallonLexy and eventually David became F forty five's
global ambassador David Tons of Social Reach. So the company thought this would be
(10:07):
fantastic. Well, Beckham says henever got the ten million dollars he was
promised and the company's stock had tanked, so David went through and deleted the
posts. F forty five asked thejudge to eighty six this lawsuit, calling
it fraudulent, but a judge saysthe case will indeed move on. By
(10:28):
the way, this is pretty roughfor F forty five. Treel Owens also
filed a similar type of lawsuit backin twenty seventeen, claiming the company stiffed
him on seven hundred thousand dollars worthof work pr There not good look.
Mark Taylor Swift's album The Tortured PoetsDepartment, dropping on Friday to mostly rave
(10:50):
reviews, except for one out ofPaste magazine, which eventually had to take
the editor's name off because of deaththreat. Out jeezus, swifties, let's
dial it back a bit, shouldwe? So? A lot of reviewers
thought that this was absolutely incredible, but pacede wasn't exactly a huge fan,
(11:13):
they had a few things to sayabout certain songs in the way that they
sounded. Eventually, an editor's notewas put out over the weekend that read,
there's no byline on this review dueto how even back in twenty nineteen,
when Paste reviewed Lover, the writerwas sent threats of violence from readers
who disagreed with the work. Theyended by saying, we care more about
(11:35):
the safety of our staff than aname attached to an article. So now
they're making this rule that they willactually not put the name of anyone who's
reviewing a Tailor album anymore in thefuture. That's just messed insane. Well,
especially because I got a feeling andmaybe they're there person's genuine feelings.
I don't know, but sometimes peoplewill rail on something that's super popular just
to get attention, just to bethe voice of that side there. That
(11:58):
way, they're not made all right. Coachella is a final weekend showed us
a few more big cameos. Let'sstart with Lana del Rey first surprising that
crowd last weekend with Billie Eilish, remember well, Saturday, she kicked things
off with none other than Camilla Cabeo, who dropped her new single I Love
It on stage. I love it, she says on words where I love
(12:28):
you so much. I love it, I love it, I love it,
I love it, I love it. I mean it was like a
pretty great collaboration though. And thenwe saw Sabrina Carpenter absolutely wowdy audience and
brought on Nora Jones. How longhas it been since we got to listen
to Don't Know Why? By Jo? It was incredible. I've got both
(13:01):
those videos up for you with afew other of the Coachella performances you might
have missed with your scoop at WestMichigan start off Mack and Schmittien woo yeah
Chilli weekend for sure, SCHMIDI,yeah, okay. Who else was out
watching sports in what felt like winter? Uh? We kicked off flag football
about a week ago and I postedthis video to our Facebook and Instagram because
(13:24):
it never ceases to amaze me livingin Michigan when you're watching quote unquote spring
sports and people are in full onsnowsuits. It is so cold, And
I know I saw tons of myfriends posting about this over the weekend.
Saturday was brutal. I had acouple friends at soccer games, and I
mean it was just head to toesix to seven blankets, winter codes,
(13:50):
boots. I mean, I don'tthink we hit forty five on Saturday.
So my son's first baseball game ofthe season was at nine a m.
On Saturday, and if when Ilooked at past weather here, it would
have been twenty nine. Yeah aboutthat. But the problem was not the
coldness, because the deception of thesun was a very real thing Saturday morning.
(14:13):
Because you're like, oh, it'sgonna be so bad. It was
the wind. The wind was soterrible. I had never seen a group
of parents h huddle for warmth ata game before. Normally everybodys got their
lawn chairs out, some people hadblankets, some people didn't bring their blankets
or even proper like coats and stuff. So literally the chairs were shoulder to
shoulder with everybody. So you tookexactly what I was going to talk about,
(14:35):
because I thought Saturday actually like peopleplanned for it. Everything I saw.
They were like, oh, itis going to be brutal today.
I'm going to have all of mylayers, all my kids stuff. I
thought Sunday was worse because Sunday wassuper sunny, yeah, I feel like
bye. I mean Saturday, bylike ten am, it was cloudy.
(14:56):
You knew it was looking gross outside. Sunday was deceiving, and I went
to my son's flag football game.We played at one thirty and it was
like, oh, today's line's gonnabe fifty two, and you're like,
fifty two and sunny, that soundsgreat. It was terrible because the windshill
was below forty and I'm looking acrossthe field and I see a woman in
(15:16):
a full on north face sleeping bag. Wow, like the kind that rates
were up to negative seventy celsius. So I'm posting this online and I'm like,
parents, like, what have youseen? What is your worst possible
weather for sports? And man,did I feel in good company? Laura
(15:39):
said the Jennison homecoming the year itwas a total ice rain debacle homecoming.
That's like late April, early May. Laurie said, so many football games
in snow or rain. Jennifer watchedher daughter in soccer playing in pouring rain,
but she stayed in the car.I'm so glad we're all good with
(16:00):
that track meets. Those might besome of the worst barb all the moms
huddled in bleachers with heaters trying tostay warm. It's just unreal. Honestly,
I feel like there should be somesort of unwritten rule that if anyone
on the team is going to randomlystart crying because they're having such a bad
time playing in the conditions, noone should be playing. The game should
(16:22):
be called. I liked Janine.I've literally watched my kids playing all weather
slate, rain, cold, windyat heck ninety degrees and the players mandated
to take water breaks. Luckily wedidn't have any heat exhaustion. Six one,
six, four, five eight, one oh five seven. What is
the craziest or the worst weather youhave ever watched your kids playing? I
(16:48):
can remember playing a softball game andwe had to be evacuated to the school
for a tornado. Ooh yeah, six one, six, four, five
eight, one oh five seven. There's just there's some heartier about us parents
Michigan. We will sit through anythingto support our kids. You know what
this makes me want to be.It makes me want to be the horn
honker parent. My dad was ahorn honker parent. I would come from
(17:10):
a long line of horn honker parents, and that's for like baseball or soccer
games, you stay in your car. You just stay in the car.
You watch the game from a slightlybigger distance, but anytime something happens,
you lay on the hornone no,no, no, no no, I
call party. Here are the factswith human torch was denied at bankload.
(17:30):
Get you all right, let's diveinto this week's most useless news. But
it's the stuff we're all clicking onat work, right goodbye? I don't
know you might want to keep this. One couple accidentally gets divorced after lawyer
clicks the wrong button using the onlineportal. The error was reportedly made after
lawyers intended to complete a divorce foranother couple. So you might want to
(17:56):
make sure that your lawyer knows howto use a computer. Spendy woman banned
from Uber for having the first nameShwastika. Yeah, Shwastika Chandra got banned
by Uber for her name, eventhough apparently Shwastika means good luck in Sanskrit.
Uber actually apologized to her, sayingthat they had to acknowledge the cultural
(18:19):
nuances around certain names. You knowwhat, don't ban her ban her parents
from everything? Bad bye. Britishpassengers on a four hour flight to Turkey
drank the entire plane dry in thefirst twenty five minutes. Wow, that's
impressive. I don't think that's no. You're going to meetings. You're going
to meetings. Sadbye. Speddy iguanalays thirty eggs on resort water slide in
(18:44):
Miami. Female iguana apparently can layup to two dozen or excuse me,
can lay up to seventy eggs peryear. Laid thirty of them on the
water slide. Get ready, you'rethe first rider this season. Have fun.
Ad bye. Okay, I justhad to do this because, like
I might understand and where they're comingfrom. Harry styles Stalker was just jailed
for sending him eight thousand cars ina month. I'm just saying I only
(19:08):
sent three hundred and sixty four toLeonardo DiCaprio, And there's really no other
way to show your absolute commitment toone of your most favorite people. Totally
normal schmide. Drunk vultures receive foodto sober up. Did you see this?
Two vultures in Connecticut were found drunk. They were dum dumpster diving and
got into something fermented. Animal rescuedetermined that they were extremely intoxicated and quote
(19:33):
unquote too drunk to fly. Didyou see the descriptions? I did not.
They were just hanging from trees andfalling out. At one point a
driver call because they were crossing astreet and just fell over asleep. Schmidty,
we know these vultures. We allsaw them as children in the Jungle
Book. We're gonna do? Idon't know what do you wanna do?
So what we're gonna do? Idon't know. Eight Now, don't stop
(19:57):
that again. All right, that'sthis week's headlines. You see any great
ones out there? Got a setto our away at West Michigan, Star
Movies, Music and all the gossipin one place. It's the celebrities gup
on Star one oh five point seven. Well, it's been almost two weeks
since Morgan Wallin was arrested for allegedlythrowing a chair off the roof of a
(20:22):
Nashville bar. He has now officiallyissued a statement and talking for the first
time addressing the incident. In atwo part response, the country superstar posted
to X, writing, I didn'tfeel right publicly checking in until I made
amends with some folks. I've touchedbase with Nashville law enforcement, my family,
and the good people at Chiefs. That's the bar he was at.
(20:45):
I'm not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility. I have the
utmost respect for the officers working everyday to keep us all safe, and
regarding my tour, there will beno change. I mean, just how
many times for the guy right Like? That's what I'm curious about, is
if all these apologies, that's nice. He went back to everybody, you've
(21:08):
kind of screwed up multiple times. This one, I feel like sticks differently
because of law enforcement involved, andhe had to apologize because when he tossed
this chair, he nearly hit officersthat were just doing a patrol on the
ground. I have seen much morenegativity with this one than I feel like
any of his other issues, becausehe did seem so disrespectful to law enforcement,
(21:29):
and that is not something you cando, especially considering you're a country
artist. I mean, imagine ifhe actually hit hit somebody, I mean,
you know, like an innocent bystander. Imagine if he hits one of
the cops from them. I hadto do this story because I find it
hysterical. US Senator Elizabeth Warren isall four that new lawsuit from the Department
(21:51):
of Justice announcing an antitrust lawsuit againstApple, accusing the California based company of
engineering an illegal monopoly and smartphones. Here is a video she posted to x
about how much it's hurting all ofus in the green bubble green text on
iPhones. They're ruining relationships. That'sright. Non iPhone users everywhere are being
(22:12):
excluded from group texts, from sportsteams chats to birthday chats to vacation plan
chats. They're getting cut out, listening out on plans and conversations and host
blame here Apple, That's right, elizabeit. I'm glad Capital Hill is focusing
on what matters. Get let outof vacation plans. It's happened. It's
(22:34):
happened to me. Tell me youown an Android without telling me you own
an android? You know what enough. Finally, the Spice Girls gave us
a mini reunion over the weekend.Victoria Beckham aka Posh had her fiftieth birthday
celebration Saturday night, and all ofthe girls were there. Im A Button
(22:57):
Baby Spice, Melanie just all SportySpice, Jerry Holliwell Ginger, even Scary
Spice Melanie Brown, who performed animpromptu rendition of their hit Stop. They
(23:19):
even remembered the dance moves. Andthe only reason we have this video is
because Victoria's super proud husband David Beckhamwas front and center with his phone,
dancing and singing along with the girls. It is gold. I'm sorry,
but a Spice girl is fifty yearsold. Time. Oh yeah, time.
It looks incredible. By the way, all of your celeb scoop,
(23:41):
I'll put up David's video for youWest Michigan Star dot com. It's back
at Schmidden in its time too.Battle Battle of the Sex is. We're
throwing down for your chance to gocheer on our grand Rapids Griffins is.
Hopefully they start what is a longroad to another calder Cup schmitting. We're
in playoff play. That's right, the Griffins take on the Rockford Ice Hogs.
(24:03):
Game one May first. Your numberone answer scores you and the family
tickets. This morning, one hundredmen surveyed name something that has the word
super in it. Whenever I sawsins, I said this question immediately just
thought of Molly Shannon from Saturday NightLive shoving her fingers into her armpits.
Yes, Superstar. Those of ushave a certain generation will absolutely remember that.
(24:26):
Six one, six, four fiveeight, one oh five seven your
chance at Griffins tickets. One hundredmen surveyed name something that has the word
super in it. Call her sevenfirst chance? Good morning Star? Who's
this aw? Sam? Sam?Where are you calling from this morning?
All right? Sam? One hundredguys were asked to name something that has
(24:49):
the word super in it. Whatdo you think? Their top answer was
Hero, super Hero hmm, likeSuperman, Superman. The only next one
I could think of was super Mario. I'm sure there's lots of other Supers
out there too, but they're allcovered under Superhero and that's why it's the
top answer. Congrats, Thank you, Sam. It's the mind of a
(25:12):
woman that got this done, because, honestly, I thought everybody was gonna
say super Bowl. It was thefirst thing that came to me, the
super Bowl, But man, younailed it with Superhero. It was Superhero,
followed by super Bowl, then Supermarket, Superstar and super Glue rounding out
those top answers. Sam, congrats, you're going to root for our Griffins
(25:33):
in the playoffs. Thank you.Yeah, it's gonna be a blast.
The Griffins taking on the ice Hogsmay first opening game for this year's Caldercop
playoffs, and we are getting youin again tomorrow. Battle of the Sexes
eight fifteen Here on star ingrat Sam, Thank you sometime. Does that get
a good feeling? Let's get intoit feeling good right now in Starlin,
(25:57):
Oh five points seven Here to geta little sum to take with the end
of the rest of your day. What's going on? Shreddi Well, this
is an unbelievable video everywhere this morning. The group of good Samaritans rushing to
the aid of a car that hadburst into flames after crashing on a Minnesota
highway. A Honda ran off theroad on I ninety four near Snelling Avenue
(26:19):
and immediately caught on fire. Videocaught the harrowing rescue of an elderly man
as several motorists came to a completestop and literally sprinted to this car,
completely engulfed in flames. They triedeverything, pulling on the doors, but
the way he had hit his doorswere blocked by the guardrail. Some Samaritans
(26:41):
picked up pieces of plastic and triedbreaking through the doors as this man was
screaming, help me, get meout of this car. There was nothing
that they could do. Eventually theywere able to break the back window.
The video shows the group pulling theman to safety, just as the Minnesota
Highway Patrol shows up to aid.It is un believable video. One of
those good Samaritans Kadeer Tola. Hewas on his way to visit some clients
(27:04):
in Saint Paul when he witnessed thecrash and immediately jumped into help, explaining
that moment and how it will livewith him for life to Fox nine.
All right, after we got himout, the fire start going inside the
car from the driverside, and then'tI mean, I wish where you could
hear the sound that when the tie'sgoing off. It feels like, you
(27:25):
know, you watch it like anauction movie. But I'm glad he got
out on time. So this issomething that I will never forget and I
will always remember it is I'm surehe will too. State Patrol did take
the driver to Region's Hospital to beevaluated, but thankfully no serious injuries.
I mean, that video is insane. It'll stop your breath. West Michigan
(27:48):
Star dot com all right, thisis just an amazing change of circumstances for
one pretty feet line. Well.Back in June of twenty twenty two,
this is just wild to think about. Fifty cats were found crammed into a
hot car at a rest stop onnear Minnesota's Twin Cities. The owner was
living in the car with the cats. Again, this is a vehicle with
(28:11):
almost fifty cats on the inside. The owner agreed to surrender them to local
animal shelters, but one of thosecats, named Hercules, actually escaped the
shelter and then was found severely injuredwith a broken jaw and actually covered in
maggots. His situation was dire,so much, in fact, that a
veterinarian named Nicole Perrault took in Hercules, gave him all that much needed medical
(28:34):
treatment over the course of weeks andmonths nursed him back to health, and
then Hercules was strong enough to betaken in by a foster, Jill Lebrun,
a pediatric nurse, who wound upultimately adopting Hercules. Here's where the
story gets fantastic. Recently, Herculesgot pulled out and chosen by a pet
(28:56):
talent agency. It is now theface of Target. It's in store brand
merchandise for all cats. This isso cool. So if you're walking around
Target, you're going to see apicture of Hercules there with his tongue hanging
out. He's featured on those bucketsof cat litter at Target stores, He's
on some of their foods. He'son all the Target products right now.
And just an incredible journey for Herculesto go from that insanely terrible situation that
(29:21):
he was in to now get insome fame and fortune as the face of
Target's pet products. Pretty awesome.Feeling good comes at you twice today.
I always want to point out awesomethings happening out in our world. We'll
do it again for you tomorrow, six forty five and nine to twenty here
on Star Wars five point seven.Mack and Schmidty in the morning weekdays starting
at six am on Star one ohfive point seven
