(00:02):
Wakem It gets my day going andmakes me lab I love it. MC
and Schmidty in the morning on Starone of five point seven. Good morning,
Smitty, Oh, good morning.Welcome into your Tuesday. It starts
out a little wet in areas, especially around the Grand Rapids area right now,
attempts in the low to mid fiftiesacross West Michigan. His today in
(00:26):
our sixty degree is gonna hang outwith those winds and maybe see some showers,
especially later on this afternoon. Schmidty, Well, we got, we
got. You know, it's April, West Michigan, right, we're riding
the roller coaster. I just heardMatt Kirkwood from Wood TV eight talk about
a high likelihood of widespread frost comingour way later this week. Also mid
seventies degree temperatures this weekend. Imean, mother names of bread, yeah,
(00:47):
all the way through. So Imean, you guys know how it
goes, right, April showers bringMay flowers. Although I got to tell
you, my six year old mentionedto me that it feels like there's a
lot of April showers, so therebetter be a lot of May flowers.
And I was like your mouth toGod's ears. My love, movies,
music and all the gossip in oneplace. It's the celebrity scoop on Star
(01:08):
one oh five point seven. Well, yesterday in Scoop, I told you
about that pretty crazy fall. Americanidol judge Luke Bryan took on stage in
Vancouver over the weekend, while thecountry star was spotted out at a restaurant
in la yesterday and is doing justfine thanks to his meaty backside. You
know what, the phone was downthere and it was just it was down
(01:32):
there, and so whether it wasthe phone or of slippery stage, it
was. But you know, injuries, you all good. Hey, she
got a lot of meat back gota lot of meat back there. Obviously
handling it very well with humor ashe does. You know, he's gotten
a little bit bigger, like alot of us over the last few years.
So a little extra cushion there forthat fall, all right. Beyonce
(01:53):
is shutting down the haters over herhair. She's gotten comments about this for
years and said she has more thanjust wigs and extensions and how perfect to
coincide with her new brand of haircare line. She actually took fans behind
the scenes of her personalized hair routineon her Instagram while promoting her new line.
(02:17):
Now that Sacred is known for thequality and what it does for your
hair, I think it's about Tom. I'll show y'all what it does for
my hair. So stigma and misconceptionis that people that wear wigs don't have
long and healthy hair. That's amost because it ain't nobody bus ness.
I'll get back to maher. She'sactually getting a lot of praise online about
her natural lox. How excited sheis to show off her real hair in
(02:40):
true Beyonce form. It's a reallyfabulous look. I was gonna say that
just felt really authentic for what essentiallyamounts to be a commercial right where Sacred
is her new hair care line.Yes, and if you saw a bunch
of the videos hitting TikTok and Instagramyesterday Venice Beach, CALIFORNI, you looked
a little odd. A bunch ofdressed up apes on horses took to the
(03:06):
beach. It was all due tothe marketing team behind the New Kingdom of
the Planet of the Apes movie comingup with a seriously eye catching way to
hype the movie. A bunch ofapes saddled up and riding around the beach.
It's kind of creepy though they don'tsay anything, they don't do anything.
They just give you this really creepylook and they're all in like they're
(03:29):
movie attire. So all of asudden, this group of apes on horses
just started surrounding tourists to naturally, people on TikTok had a lot of wtf
is going on with this? Butit's got all of us talking ahead of
that big premiere. I was gonnasay, you're not ready for the primate
takeover of the earth, Smitik, and I'd be right in that beach and
(03:50):
fetal position if this video is anythinglike what it will be by the way
that movie hits theaters, may tenthall of your celeb scoop at West Michigan
Star dot Com STU point seven. It's back in Schmidti. Let's take a
look at what's happening out there. This is your West Michigan wake up.
All right, Let's begin with thecriminal trial of former President Donald Trump,
(04:10):
moving into the argument phase. Yesterday, prosecutors gave their opening statements and the
first witness, magazine publisher David Pecker, called to the stand and sworn in.
He started his testimony shortly before courtadjourned for the day. He will
be back on the stand this morning, the former president speaking to reporters yesterday.
This is done as election interference.Everybody knows that I'm here instead of
(04:32):
being able to be in Pennsylvania andGeorgia and lots of other places campaigning.
What's going on right here should neverbe happening. It's a very, very
sad day in America. I cantell you that a judge will rule on
a gag order early this morning beforetestimony begins. All right, Schmidti.
Out of almost twenty five thousand highschools across the nation, Michigan has three
(04:54):
high schools, once again in thetop one hundred, including one right here
in West Michigan. This according tothe US News and World Report of the
Best high school rankings based on thingslike college readiness, graduation rate, amongst
others. International Academy over in BloomfieldHills the number one school in the state
of Michigan, number eight in thecountry, Number two, International Academy of
(05:15):
Macomb and then right here in WestMichigan City High Middle School and Grand Rapids
the number three high school in theentire state of Michigan. East Grand Rapids
also coming into the top ten.All right, a West Michigan family is
asking for your help. Rodney McFalland his wife recently lost their son,
Jason. He passed away back inFebruary after a battle with depression at just
(05:36):
twenty five, leaving behind three kids. While just last week, the family
received his ashes and made them intodifferent jewelry and mementos in order to get
family members. Unfortunately, overnight thefamily was actually at a hotel north of
Grand Rapids. Their truck was brokeninto, the jewelry stolen all eleven pieces.
(05:58):
They're asking if you have any informationwhatsoever talking to Wood TV about the
painful experience it recently happened, andso this is kind of this is reopening
the wounds that have not gone awayyet. You know, that's that's sacred
to us. You know, that'sthat's his body. You know, any
news that you might have, pleaseget in touch with the Ken County Sheriff's
(06:19):
Office. In sports, Bennie, last night, Tigers in action in Terise
Cooble struck out nine hitters over sixscoreless endings, and the Tigers bats went
off, including this Homer and thesix from Farker Meadows. I shot back
into deep center, Sarah, youwill go all the way back to the
company is gone. Tiger's been Cruzand they are now nine and three in
(06:43):
road games this season. We'll seeif that hot street continues taking on the
Tampa Bay Rays again tonight on theroad six fifty pm for your game time.
You've got your headlines at West Michigan. Star dot Com sometimes does not
get a good v yes on afive point seven. I was here to
put a little positivity into your morning. Feeling good right now and this is
(07:03):
cool. Of course. Yesterday wasEarth Day Schmidty, and we saw some
of our nation's heroes come together tocontinue to serve. This is awesome.
Yesterday volunteers put on their boats andgloves got ready to scrub over at the
Grand Rapids Veterans Home Cemetery. Schmidtycleanup was organized by veterans with the Michigan
Department of Environment, Great Lakes andEnergy. More than twenty veterans, state
(07:26):
workers and volunteers got out there withthe rakes, brushes and got ready to
clean up gravestones of their fallen oftheir former heroes. Right there at this
cemetery. This is the second yearof the event, but the first year
they were actually able to go andclean gravestones. Veteran David Enos served twenty
two years in the military, startingat age seventeen. He's now the president
of the Michigan Labor and Economics opportunitygroup called Got Your Six. You know
(07:50):
I've Got Your Six Schmeddi. We'veworked with them at veterans events across West
Michigan. A great organization and forDavid, as he told Wood TV eight,
this is just another opportunity for himto continue to serve. The Army
has a saying well Soldier for life. I tried to carry that forward by
doing public service to this day. It's important, I think to show the
(08:11):
family members that come here that therearen't just planting it in the ground and
forgotten, not forgotten at all,and they will continue to do this service
around Michigan too. Are Actually they'regoing to be cleaning up over in Kalamazoo
County next at Fort Custer National Cemeterynear Augusta, coming up on May eighteenth.
We'll make sure and get the linkup for you West Michigan start dot
com with all the details. Well, some local elementary students got a very
(08:31):
special visit the other day in abig thank you from former MSU Center Madi
Sissoko. He went to North AureliusElementary in Mason because students did something very
very cool back in March. Theyheld penny wars to help and raise money
for books at Sosoko's school that heset up in his hometown of Mali,
(08:54):
Africa. Each grade had its ownjug to throw some spare change into when
students all so took the opportunity tolearn more about Sisoko's home. The students
were so excited to do this andshowed up in a big way. All
together, the students at Northorelius raisedover eleven hundred dollars. MARII, talking
(09:16):
to Wylxity, was just super thankfulfor the help. I'm very proud and
I'm so thankful. And therefore thecommunity here who has a raisume money and
they're helping me and to do thingslike this back home. Now the cool
part the first and second graders raisedthe most amount of money, so they
got surprised with not just a popsicleparty, but extra recess time. You
(09:41):
want to learn more about how youcan give to the schools. It's very
very cool what Sosoko has set upWest Michigan Star dot Com getting at the
ultimate. I mean, there's ahierarchy of things that you can be rewarded
with. Again, it's a popsicleextra recess time. I mean, yeah,
don't even tell me it hit onChicken nugget hot lunch day because that
would have been the best day ofmy whole day life storm right there.
Feel like it come's at you twicea day. I always want to share
(10:03):
something awesome going on in our world. It's all around you when you're looking
for it, and that's what wedo. We'll do it again this morning,
coming up at nine to twenty.Another round of feeling good here on
Star one on fivecorn se movies, music, and all the gossip in one
place. It's the celebritiescoop on Starone oh five point seven. Well.
Kim Kardashian's social media taking a hitafter this alleged disc track off of Taylor's
(10:30):
new Tortured Poets Departments album. Rememberthis is that new song thank You Amy
spelled aim Ee that k Im capitalized, which most fans think was a revenge
anthem against Kim with everything that wentdown between her and Kanye back in twenty
sixteen when that supposed phone call wasleaked, and then it turns out that
(10:52):
Kim had edited a bit well.Kim is now down more than one hundred
thousand followers on Instagram, and hercomments section has been blowing up with people
writing thank you Amy. The motherhas spoken, thank you Amy. You
should definitely listen to this song.Thank you Amy. Kim, you should
have just apologized like your mom toldyou to. Now some people think that
(11:16):
there could be a bit of apositive here. They're saying Chris Jenner should
cash it on the drama by respondingto the dis track on the family's Hulu
show. However, Kim was onJimmy Kimmel last night and did not mention
a word about the drama. I'msure she doesn't really want to. That's
a battle I don't think even KimKardashian is gonna win. Taylor's fans are
just ridiculous. On hundred thousand plusis a pretty steep number in just a
(11:39):
few days. Rapper and artist tPaine is vowing revenge. She was in
Atlanta over the weekend when a speedingdriver severely rear ended him and his family
and then fled this scene. Heactually went live on his social to talk
about the hit and run. WhoeverI just ran into the back of my
(12:01):
truck and whoever was just hit me, my wife, my road manager,
my driver, whoever just did thatand drove golf? Life's about to get
so much worse. Oh yeah,he said, listen, you left the
front part of your truck behind andI'm gonna find you. And yesterday he
posted an update and they did justwriting we found his bleep. Officers are
(12:28):
now investigating. I think that mightbe the first time I've ever heard Tea
Pain speak without auto tune, schmidty, And I'll be honest, I kind
of missed it. I wish therewas auto tune during that. Oh my
gosh. We had Tea Pain atparty in the Park a few summers ago
with my sister station Okay zero autotune. He has one of the greatest
voices in the industry period. Iinvite you to listen to non auto tune
(12:50):
Tea Pain, but also mad TeaPain is really funny. Tom Brady is
the next celeb up to be roasted, and it's all going down live.
This is actually happening next weekend Mayfifth. Tom joined The Today Show on
the back half of their show yesterdayto make the announcement. Hey guys,
I got a big update on myNetflix roast. Well maybe not big because
(13:13):
it's about Kevin Hart. He's goingto be hosting it, so they don't
tell me who else we got onthe panel. But it's going to be
a great night. I played inthe NFL, so I'm not worried about
a bunch of comedians. Trust me. It's going to be live on Netflix
May fifth from the Forum in LaSo don't miss it. It's gonna be
a great night. Let's go.This is going to be interesting. The
(13:33):
first ever live, completely unedited roast. Tom will face a hilarious panel of
critics. It's called the greatest roastof all time, the Roast of Tom
Brady, and it's going to featurea surprise team of roasters from the comedy,
sports, and entertainment world, whichhe will not know ahead of time.
I expect a whole bunch of lowblow JAZL Jokesmithie for sure coming that
(13:56):
one again May fifth, on NetflixLive. All of your CELEBSCOO, but
West Michigan Star dot com. I'mborn to to you. It's back and
Schmitty and man, I had todig deep in the memory there, Schmitty
as you ask what the craziest thingthat you've had to do with the craziest,
wildest, funniest thing, Because there'scertain things only parents will get.
(14:16):
It's like you have to get tothat point where you've got kids, but
more importantly all the gear that comeswith kids, where you find yourself in
a very weird spot and you've gotto make the most of it. And
that's exactly what happened for Tory Spelling. So the nine o two one oh
Star has a podcast called Misspelling, and I saw this everywhere yesterday and had
(14:37):
to give it a listen because shetalks about a moment she used one of
her kids' diapers. I had topee really bad. I was stuck on
the one oh one, which islike our craziest freeway here, and I
was like, I'm not going tomake it home. So I literally reached
back in my Tory Poppin's bag andI'm like something, Please got something.
(14:58):
And I went through it and I'mlike, hu, a diaper and I
literally put like on a diaper andto my pants in Bow's diaper. That's
brilliant, by the way she peed, So just see, it wasn't like
I just still had to edit outthe word that she used. But I
didn't want you to think, becauseit feels like going number two in that
(15:20):
manner would be far weirder. Shereally had to pee. She knew she
wasn't gonna make it home. She'sstuck in this horrible Cali traffic, and
she used her kids diaper to peein. And when else are you going
to do that except as a parent, because you're not going to have any
of those things. And I thoughtit was hilarious and a perfect conversation because
I guarantee parents have used their kidssomething in an emergency. Because I was
(15:45):
on a trip with one of mybest friends. This is probably three or
four years ago, so I onlyhad Will and he was still super super
little. She has a daughter who'sa couple of years older than Will,
and we were heading up north andwe were on I want to say,
it was like US ten or likefifty five or something, one of those
long roads where there's a huge, huge swath of land with no rest stops.
(16:07):
No gas stations, and I wasbursting, y'all, I was so
close. And she turns to meand she goes, oh my gosh,
I have my daughter's travel potty inthe trunk. And we pulled over and
I hovered and used a four yearold port a potty to relieve myself.
And I thought, I'm so gladyou're a mob because otherwise I would just
(16:32):
be like hanging on to the sidecardoor attempting to like hover over a cornfield
and do my business. That's theultimate squatty potty right there. I mean,
that's li shit. But thank goodnessshe was a parent. We've all
had those moments. Honestly, Iapplaud Tory Spelling's ingenuity like it being resourceful
in that situation right there. Imean, that's a tough one. I
(16:53):
honestly, I don't think I've everused any of my children's stuff because of
my bathroom experience. How However,my daughter's second Easter, we were in
Mass and you know, it's Easter, so she's wearing one of those beautiful
little Easter dresses in church, andof course that's the moment that I'm holding
her in my arms and she hasa below out. Oh yeah, it's
(17:14):
Easter. I'm wearing a white shirt, she's wearing a white dress, and
we have both just made a massivemess of ourselves. But we're only like
twenty five minutes into an Easter mass. So I go I clean her up.
She has diapers or whatever, butno remaining clothing. Schmitty. I
wound up having to basically stand inthe park in the parking lot, me
with my shirt off, her withher dress off, and just wait for
(17:37):
church to be over. So shirtless, full grown man in the church parking
lot walking back and forth as adad should have had a T shirt on
underneath rookie miss way it was Vegus'ssix one six, four five eight one
oh five seven. Come on,I know you have got a great sir.
I can't tell you how many timesI've shown up to work with my
kids water bottles because I can't findmy own. I'll take it a step
further. I have put wine inmy daughter's sippy cup point seven. Let's
(18:06):
get in this Schmindy's weekly vent sessionsMe so salty, mm hmm. And
I said it, and I knowa lot of you realized it. Car
seats, I mean you gotta beNASA engineer man. So I did an
entire full clean of my car yesterday. Everything came out, seat mats,
washed, vacuumed, armor, alllike I just needed my car needed some
(18:30):
serious TLC. So that included takingthe car seats out. And it's never
taking them out, That's the hardthing, right, it's putting them back
in. You guys. I hadto take three i'd beprofen before bed,
like three water bottles worth of hydration. My lower back is still killing me
(18:52):
today. And my husband was outthere helping me because I've got to fit
two car seats in my super roomand he's doing all the straps and this
stuff. And my one son isclose to growing out of his five clicker
harness or whatever they call it,and I'm trying to get my daughters in
there. And I just I getout of my car and I'm like,
you know what, I understand thatthey save lives, and I am pro
(19:15):
car seat. Don't think that I'mnot. But at the same time,
how many kids were really dying backin the fifties without car seats, Oh,
Stalky, I mean we were, you know, we were over the
age of thirteen sitting or under theage of thirteen sitting in front seats and
everything else. We were sitting backwardsin stations. Again, I pro car
seat, So please, I don'tneed the calls. I'm just saying it
(19:37):
doesn't have to be so backbreaking tofigure out all the straps, movies,
music, and all the gossip inone place. It's the celebrities goop on
Star one oh five point seven.Well, it's a tough spot for Post
Malone after debuting that collaboration on TaylorSwift's new album Fortnite, He's getting a
bit of blowback from the Bay HighSo remember, Post also worked on Levi's
(20:03):
Jeans alongside Beyonce for her new CowboyCarter album, and a lot of Bay
fans are calling out his posts aboutthe two artists. After his collaboration with
Beyonce came out, his caption readI love you Beyonce, but when Taylor's
album dropped on Friday, she gota It's once in a lifetime that someone
(20:26):
like Taylor Swift comes into this world. I am floored by your heart and
your mind, and I'm beyond honoredto have been asked to help you with
your journey. I love you somuch, Thank you, Tay. People
were getting pretty hot and heated aboutthis, saying it was a big snub
to Beyonce that he should have beenjust as equally happy about that, while
other fans wrote things like listen,Taylor gave him two posts, he gave
(20:48):
her the same energy, stop cryingabout it, and another Beyonce fan adding,
you're acting like if he's cursing onBeyonce, he said something bad.
I don't see any problem with this, And remember Taylor and Beyonce have shown
time and time again they are twovery supportive, powerhouse female artists of each
other. It's amazing where the Internetcan find drama, right, it's I
(21:11):
think, Yeah, that's probably thebest thing you could say about the Internet.
Yeah, personally, I think thissong is good. Levi's geens from
Beyonce and Post. That might bemy favorite song on that album. That
was another thing fans brought up.They were like, listen, Post was
way more featured in Beyonce song. You should have had a way better caption
for her. But again, theInternet thrives to find things that they can
(21:33):
complain about. Selene Dion says sheis doing all she can to prove nothing
can hold her back, even ifshe continues to deal with that stiff person
syndroma diagnosis she first got two yearsago. But she's finally opening up about
her health too and you issue ofVogue France, insisting she's doing everything in
her power to find a cure. She says she said serious moments of doubt,
(21:57):
things like why me, how didthis happen? What have I done?
Is it my fault? And it'sbeen very hard to realize that she
now has to learn how to livewith this. She goes on to say,
the way I see it, Ihave two choices. Either I train
like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it's over.
I stay at home, I listento my old songs. I stand
(22:18):
in front of my mirror and Ijust sing to myself, No, it's
not gonna happen. She said she'spoured all of her energy into rigorous athletic,
physical and vocal therapy sessions that sheis doing five days a week and
still hopes to someday make it backon tour. She ends the article by
saying, there is one thing thatwill never stop, and that is will
(22:40):
It's my passion. The dream, the determination. So that's really good to
hear because I was the lad tosee Celinia. I'm in live person.
Yeah, I mean she's obviously workinghard to control as much of that as
she can. But honestly, hey, late in life on set Rare autoimmune
disease is like the scariest thing.Well, we've seen her in toun,
She's been at NHL Games, shegave Taylor's switch speaking of her Album of
(23:00):
the Year awards. She is tryingto get out there and keep in the
public. Finally, it is theepisode of Bluuie that had everyone in tears
and now breaking records. So ifyou have not yet seen the Sign,
it was that twenty eight minute episodethat drew in an insane ten point four
(23:25):
million views in just a week. Those ratings make it the biggest premiere for
a single episode of Blue and Disneyplus history. And get this, Nielsen
ratings that just came out found Blueywas the second most streamed program last year
in the entire United States one pointone nine billion minutes of viewing. That
(23:49):
is that's unreal. And I'll behonest, I have yet to watch a
single entire episode of Blue. Ohyou're missing out. I've watched maybe five
minutes at least two hundred times, but I have never watched It's easily one
of the best shows ever created. You can quote me on that. All
of your celeb scoop at West MichiganStar dot Com. Time to battle,
(24:10):
and that's exactly what our Grand RapidsGriffins are going to be doing May first,
opening up their playoff series against theRockford Ice. Howgs Miitbie, We've
got your tickets with today's number oneanswer. One hundred women surveyed. Name
something people eat that is red. Now, if you're my kids, it's
an apple. It's never the wholething, and somehow the core is either
(24:32):
in your sheets, in your hamper, or just lying somewhere on the living
room rug because you have absolutely noidea where a trash can is located.
I was thinking of beats for asecond, because they stain everything red after
you get them out. Plus theytaste like dirt. Right six one,
six, four, five, eight, one oh five seven. One hundred
women surveyed, Name something people eatthat is red? Caller seven, first
(24:55):
shot at that number one answer, and you could be headed to Griffin's playoff
action with Star one O five pointseven should the morning star? Who's this
Connie? We're calling from this morning? Connie? All right, Connie,
let's see if we can get youinto our Grand Rapids Griffins opening playoff game.
You gotta tell me what a hundredguys were asked to name something people
(25:18):
eat that is red. What theirtop answer is there. I'm gonna send
apple. You're going with apple, you know. Shmibe said that too,
as she complained about her kids neverbeing able to actually throw the coreytot the
trash, which every parent knows alltoo well. I thought that might throw
people off a little bit, thatthey'd go in a different direction. But
I'm glad you didn't, Connie, because apple is the top answer the Grids
(25:40):
alazess, thank you. Yeah,it was apples, follow my strawberries,
cherries, tomatoes, and then watermelon. Routing out those top answers, all
of them sound very good right aboutnow. I could go for a fruit
salad, I feel like. Butyou are going to be going to root
on our Grand Rapids Griffins as theyopen up their first round of the playoffs
against the Rockford Ice Sogs on Mayfirst. Congratulations Connie, Thank you.
(26:03):
You gotta yell extra louder right, the Griffins need you. Okay, I
will all right? Sounds good. We'll do it again tomorrow. More playoff
tickets all week long. Your chanceto win with Battle of the Sexies tomorrow
eight to fifteen year on style andon mom points. Somewn do that get
a good feeling. I love whenpeople figure out how to give an incredible
(26:27):
message in a very different way. That's what happened in Miskegan yesterday when hundreds
of Muskegan High School students got thatpowerful message thanks to a basketball game.
But this wasn't just any friendly gameof basketball. It included law enforcement officials,
school staff, and individuals with criminalrecords. The event was meant to
(26:51):
highlight the importance of making good choicesthroughout life, and it happened thanks to
Fresh Coast Alliance, a very crediblegroup that is helping with services and presentations
and events like this to keep kidson the right path. It fits perfectly,
says Muskegan County Prosecutor DJ Hilson, one of those on the court,
(27:12):
as he explains to Fox seventeen thatmessage of unity have to play as a
team, obviously defend as a teamand play offense as best as you can
as a team. That was thewhole point of why we did it this
way is to bring that unity messageto the students. And lots of these
students had never had any real experiencelike this with law enforcement, which is
(27:32):
a really important part of this.Just ask Nate Johnson. He is the
head of Fresh Coast Alliance and alsospent years in state prison. We're hoping
that in time, when those situationsarise where there's this decision that has to
be made, this crosshold, thatthey make the decision, how can we
(27:52):
bring these two worlds together and say, hey, you know what, we're
stronger together, we're better together,We're better together. It's incredible telling Fox
seventeen, they're hoping this is notjust a one and done kind of event.
It has proven to be so helpfulin the community. By the way,
the game ended forty six to thirtythree. Couldn't tell you which team
had which score, but they werethrilled to see how many students were active
(28:17):
with this and having those tough conversationswith both those individuals with criminal records and
law enforcement a win win all around. You're right, Biddy, that is
a unique and different way to carrya very important message. Love it all
right. This is awesome and unbelievableat the same time. If Sisterhood were
a married bad Schmiddy, Phoenix Moyer, and Kamani Bram would have earned it
because that's what these two do.And they have also just become the first
(28:41):
black girls in the state of Michiganto become Eagle Scout. Yes, they
did. This is incredible. KamaniBram, who's a sophomore at East Kentwood
High School, and Phoenix Moyer, who is a junior at Grand River Preparatory
High School, have just completed thisfeat and they did it together. Talking
to Wood TV, Kamani's this isthe person I've shared my tent with.
(29:02):
This is the person I eat mymeals with, did most of my classes
with. Meanwhile, Phoenix added,we did it together all the way.
It's not an easy feet either.Girls earn twenty nine Eagle Scout marriage badges.
They only needed to do twenty one, so they went above and beyond,
but only about four percent of boysor girls who enter Scouts actually reached
that level. This number is unbelievable. Smiddy, there are eighty thousand Eagle
(29:26):
Scouts that live in the state ofMichigan. Moyer and Brom and Bram are
the first two black girls out ofeighty thousand. It's absolutely insane to think
about, and talking to Wood TV, they just both shared what a surreal
feeling it is to know that you'rethe first. I think it's I think
(29:47):
it's one thing to see other peoplebe that first, but to be that
first yourself, it's really special.Good to have that role model, to
be able to see black people, especially black women, in roles that you
don't usually see them in. Weare the first, but I really really
hope that we're not the last, and I'm sure they won't be. With
trailblazers like those two leading the way. Moyer says she plans to study horticulture
(30:08):
after high school. Bram says thatshe wants to become an anesthesiologist, but
both of them plan to continue onwith Scouts after they graduate. Really cool
feeling good comes at you twice today. I always want to point out things
happening in our community and around theworld. We'll do it again for you
tomorrow six forty five and nine twentyon Start one O five point seven Mack
