Wake, wake up. It getsmy day going and makes me laugh.
It Mac and Schmitty in the Morningon Star one O five point seven,
Good morning, Schmitty. July first, y'all weird. How did that happen?
And it's not gonna feel like it. I am perfectly unashamed to tell
(00:22):
you I turned the heat on inmy car this morning. When I walked
outside to drive in, it wasforty four degrees. I reverted back to
May I'm rocking the shitty the hoodiein shorts today. Yeah. Yeah,
So just heads up, it's gonnafeel nice, probably up at the windows
open last night at the ACA breakbecause it does not feel like Jila.
It's gonna be gorgeous movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
(00:46):
It's the Celebritiescoop on Star one ohfive point seven. Well, you
may have missed the passing of actorMartin mull The news dropped Friday evening.
The Roseannes star, also known forhis work on Sabrina the Teenage Which,
Two and a Half Men, aswell as movies like Clue, Jingle All
(01:07):
the Way and Mister Mom, waseighty years old. He passed away at
his home. The results of along illness, according to his representative Jennifer
Craig. His daughter then took toInstagram saying I am heartbroken to share my
father passed away on June twenty seventhafter a valiant fight against a long illness.
He was known for excelling at everycreative discipline imaginable, and also for
(01:32):
doing red roof in commercials. Hewould find that joke funny. He was
never not funny. My dad willbe deeply missed by his wife and daughter,
by friends, coworkers, fellow artistsand comedians, musicians, and the
sign of a truly exceptional person bymany many dogs. I'd loved him tremendously
(01:52):
survived by his wife, Wendy andtheir daughter. Well, this one hit
me. What great words to haveused right there to this for just like
and yet touching right there. That'ssweet. This will be very interesting.
Prince Harry is set to receive thePat Tillman Award at this year's SP's and
for Mary Tilman, mom to theformer NFL safety Pat Tillman, who the
(02:16):
award is named after. Remember thisstory. He joined the US Army after
nine to eleven and died in afriendly fire incident, is speaking in a
new interview saying she's not thrilled withthis decision. According to Tilman, I
am shocked as to why they wouldselect such a controversial and divisive individual to
(02:37):
receive the ward. Mary adds shethinks there are far more fitting individuals to
receive that coveted trophy, unsung heroeswho don't have the Duke of Sussex's massive
platform. Tilman also says that ESPNdid not consult with her at all.
She said, it's pretty harsh thatshe would feel that way if you like
(03:00):
to have an idea of the kindsof people. This award goes to last
year, Buffalo Bill's training staff gotit for saving DeMar Hamlin's life on the
field when he went into cardiac arrest. So oh, it's not great.
The fact that ESPN didn't bother toask him, Yeah great. Finally,
it was a big party weekend forthe Kardashian fam as Chloe Kardashian turned forty
(03:23):
and celebrated in high style with aKloewood themed bash inspired by superstar Dolly Partons
Dollywood. It was obviously a roomfull of stars, but it was the
end of the night that packed thebig surprise, Snoop dog Oh my god,
(03:53):
it was unbelievable, so good celebratingChloe. You can't even see in
some of these Instagram stories Kim Kardashianseven having a few drinks. She was
actually seen dancing and flipped upside downby Britney Spears's manager Warren G and Corrupt
(04:14):
also took the stage. It lookedlike it was such a good time.
I mean, give me I saythat about the Kardashians. My man,
this party looked epic. You hadSnoop Dogg was the clown? Is your
birthday party? Like? That's basicallywhat we have here, all of your
Celebscoop at West Michigan Star dot Comsometimes does that get a good feeling?
Oh yes, since Monday, shit, we could all use little something extra
(04:38):
to get us through it. Let'sdo it feeling good on start one oh
five point seven. It's Mack andSchmidty and this is just a wild and
cool story that has a lot ofhistory right here in West Michigan. Back
in the sixties and seventy Schmitty Overat john Ball Zoo there lived an elephant
named Zuela, an Indian elephant andhad a trainer named Harry Maxim. Well,
(04:59):
at the end of the day, outside of Zuella's sanctuary there at the
john Ball Zoo, Harry would saygood night to what he called Zuella's baby,
a six hundred pound elephant statue thatmarked the enclosure there. He'd say,
good night, baby, see youin the morning. Well, in
nineteen seventy eight, Maxim fell ill. He had to go away from his
work, and that really impacted Zuellanegatively as well. She really missed him.
(05:23):
According to Maxim's daughter Teresa, Hesaid that the same year the elephant
lost about one thousand pounds after Harrygot sick and Zuela wanta being put down.
Maxim, though, was ranked thereby his elephant's side. Well.
Several years that elephant statue stood atthe John Ball Zoo until nineteen eighty three.
It went up for auction over atthe MWe Grand Plaza and the Young's
(05:46):
family bought it and put it rightout in front of Gowen and it became
like this sort of symbol for theGowen community. It's been there this whole
time in that four thousand person communitykind of looked at like a mascot.
Well, now it's got a brandnew home because just this spring, the
youngs actually contacted three sisters, theCrawls, who owned Charlie's ice Cream shop
(06:06):
there in gow and also a staplein the community, and they decided that
they wanted to restore Charlie and bringit home. This is so cool.
So they have these girls, thesethree sisters who started this business just in
twenty nineteen when they took over Charlie'sice Cream, just as teenagers have now
restored it and brought this treasured pieceof the past back so that everyone can
(06:30):
enjoy this giant elephant now dubbed Charliethe Elephant. This is Abby Crawl talking
to Fox seventeen. But just howcool it is to see this piece of
history come to life, such abeautiful piece of Gowan history, of Grand
Rapids history, of just West Michiganhistory. And it's so cool to be
able to have that here. Iwasn't even expecting how rewarding it would be
(06:51):
to see that, like the beforeand after difference of what the statue looks
like. That's what's really awesome. To have something old. Guy, Yeah,
something old made new again. Andcheck this out Schmidy maybe the best
part of me. Saturday, theyrevealed the statue of their customers with some
special guests there. Teresa Dewey, the Elephant trainer's daughter, was actually there
(07:12):
with her sister and her mom tosee this statue that reminded them of their
late husband and father. I mean, what a cool thing to keep in
the community like that. Speaking ofcool things, it was the Rocket Mortgage
Classic over the weekend in Detroit, which is hopefully going to be a lifelong
memory for a grandfather and his grandson. See Dennis has been going to the
golf play for years, has beenplaying golf with his grandson for years,
(07:36):
but unfortunately this will most likely behis final Rocket Mortgage Classic. He was
recently diagnosed with pulmaniery thrombosis due toasbestos from the car factory he worked in
throughout his life. It is avery sad moment for him, made better
by his grandson. Just this pastweek, I played my last nine holes
(08:01):
of golf, so I've had togive up the game. Yeah, that
was my passion for sixty two years, since I was twelve. I started,
and now I'm enjoying it vicariously.Vicariously through his grandson Paxton. Very
close, very close. Yeah.Almost during the summer I spent probably like
(08:24):
ninety five percent of it at hishouse golfing with him. This is such
a cool story. Gina Trumtman actuallyworks for WXYZ and got an email from
the two hoping they could share theirstory and inspire others to take those moments
to make these memories. And itreally got them emotional. How much more
special are these moments to you?Gina? You're killing me with Paxton.
(08:54):
It couldn't be better. The endto a great let's say, the end
to a great run. Put thestory up for you at West Michigan,
Star dot com, Moodies Music andall the gossip in one place. It's
the celebrities gup on Star one ohfive point seven. Well if all of
Ireland were not Swifties before they arenow. Taylor made the next stop on
(09:18):
her Ara's tour, performing at Dublin'sAviva Stadium, where she admitted to a
sold out crowd that folklore is indeedIreland in her mind. The imaginary rule
that I've continued to go to everysingle day and out of reading in honest
kind of seem like iron so concessionally, Flary just belongs with you, guys.
(09:46):
The folklore belongs with you guys.Unfortunately, though, at Saturday Nights
show in Dublin, she had abit of a stage malfunction. She was
doing her track The Smallest Whoever Lived, which she generally performs at least half
of from a raised platform, whichis then supposed to come down, except
(10:07):
it didn't, so you can seein videos that have surfaced she's kind of
looking around trying to figure out howshe's going to do this. It's too
high up to just kind of jumpdown. When one of her amazing backup
dancers recognize as there's been a malfunction, walks over. They do this insanely
what look to actually be choreographed wayto get her down. Show continues absolute
pro I mean, that's kind ofa freaky moment, though, too right
(10:30):
where you're up on a platform thinkingit has happened a few times on the
tour, so I can't imagine she'sreal thrilled about it. Kanye West is
facing a very serious lawsuit along withhis former chief of staff Milo Yanapolis.
So according to this lawsuit that wasfiled, Kanye created an app to promote
(10:50):
his rap music, fostering a racistenvironment with brutal work conditions while his wife,
Bianca Sensory, sent X rated contentto staff which was accessible by miners.
The suit also alleges Kanye engaged inforced labor and cruel, inhumane or
degrading treatment. So here is thedeal, just kind of get the gist
(11:13):
of this. This started allegedly thispast spring, when Kanye was launching this
streaming service. He was hoping torival like iHeart and Spotify. The suit
says he avoided paying companies and insteadhired an international developer group comprised of several
black members, which also included underagedteens as young as fourteen. They say
(11:37):
that most of them worked remotely, and they have evidence of communication where he
was using really awful language with theseworkers. They also say that Bianca then
sent along videos once Kanye was tryingto move into the adult entertainment field,
and there was no way to keepminers from accessing that content. This is
(11:58):
nasty, nasty, nasty. Elseworth pointing out, Bianca is not listed
in this lawsuit. Kanye and Miloare so far, and neither one of
them has commented about this I meanthat's so, that's really nasty. Yeah,
pretty big accusations. And the secondtime Kanye has tried to create his
own streaming service. I mean hewas an owner in title until they kind
of booted him up here. Yes, suit's asking for damages of unpaid wages,
(12:20):
overtime pay, and emotional distress. Finally, it was a sold out
crowd at the Sphere in Vegas yesterdayfor the twenty twenty four NHL Draft,
and the Montreal Canadians took advantage ofbringing on a very big superstar. I'm
pleased to invite on stage our numberone fan, the one and only Selene
(12:43):
Dio. Good evening everyone, I'mexcited, But even a hockey mom,
I'm excited and as well. Withthe fifth overall selection in the twenty twenty
four NHIL Draft, the Montreal Canadiansare proud to select Ivan Demido. The
(13:13):
most dramatic ooh draft announcement at alltime, the most dramatic draft announcement of
all time. She looked incredible.I put up the video. Yes,
I'm gonna do every Selene story Ipossibly can. West Michigan Star dot Com
with your scoop. I can't believethey missed that opportunity to start playing My
Heart Will Go On right as theyannounced the draft pick. Many imagine how
(13:35):
epic that would have been, right, Well, the guy I'll be the
first, and I don't think Ineeded My Heart Will Go On. Maybe
I drove all night. There's someother good ones, all right, Your
celebscoop coming always over at West MichiganStar dot com. Good morning, and
thanks for starting a week with usis Mac and Schmittian. Of course,
a very busy week, especially forthose traveling for the Fourth of July holiday.
Yeah, we had mentioned it.Triple A expects a record sixty point
(13:58):
six million people to travel over theextended Fourth of July week, and that's
almost three million more than last year. And I figured it'd be a perfect
time to issue a little travel warningbecause I had the most ridiculous story conveyed
to me from my brother Adam. And it's important to point out all three
of my brothers are colorblind, sothey have very, very tough times with
(14:20):
colors. And if that's you,be so cautious at the TSA if you
happen to be flying, because we'retalking about this, they have a trip
coming up in a few weeks andhe's really excited because my sister in law
is going with him because she cando all the colors for him. Okay,
because I don't know if this waslike a TSA like pre check thing.
I've never had this happen to me, so he might have been like
(14:41):
traveling in a different way. Buthe was on a trip a few weeks
ago and they walked into the TSA. He walked up to them and apparently
there is a screen before your baggageand it asks you if you are carrying
anything hazardous you need to report,or if everything's fine. The problem is
the TSA agent tells you to clickgreen if you're good, red if you're
(15:05):
not, And instead of asking likehe should have done, he just guessed
and pressed red, and this TSAagent is like immediately he goes, I
knew I did something wrong because theguy's told all. The entire demeanor changed
and he started to look at meand he goes, sir, what is
hazardous in your baggage? And thenmy brother gets super nervous because he realizes
(15:26):
exactly what happened. I had afifty to fifty chance and I hit the
wrong button. Right, and sothen he's all nervous, which makes him
look even more suspicious, and hespent about fifty minutes in the frosted glass
room of security getting completely padded downwith one of these I just just you
know, you might not think aboutthings like that if you happen to be
(15:46):
traveling, or maybe you've got sometrips before the end of summer. But
yeah, make sure that either you'recomfortable with your ability to choose yes or
no, or ask the person foradvice. Because my sister in law's listening
into this, she goes, Iwas so tech Himmel's Missus flight, and
she's like, why didn't you justtell them you couldn't figure out what color
(16:07):
was witch? And he's like, you know how I feel about my color
blindness. It's embarrassing as it is. I can't believe that that's even a
thing to ask somebody, Like itjust feels like a weird concept of like,
hey, is everything okay in thisluggage or are you in trouble?
Right? I know, Like that'swhat I couldn't understand if this was some
kind of pre check type of thing. I've never been asked to that.
(16:27):
But he's like yeah, just asa head's up, there's a rud in
a green. I couldn't tell forthe life of me, so I just
figured i'd click and go. I'mlike, oh, so, yeah,
almost missed as flight because of it. And there's got to be travel nightmare
stories out there, schmindy. Iactually lost my ID and my wallet while
I was home on a trip fromVegas one time, and I had to
(16:47):
go to TSA. My uncle wasa TSA agent, and I called him
and I said, Hey, whatcan I do? And he's like,
you want to do your best tokind of show any type of photo identification,
like you have a passport. Ididn't have a passport, didn't have
my license because I had lost thewallet. So I actually brought my high
school yearbook and my birth certificate schmittedto the air reporting and TSA goes,
(17:07):
I've never seen someone try and usethis before, but you're in here eleven
times. I can conferm it onthis side. They took it. They
took it. There's your travel hack. Oh my goodness, ever in a
million years would I have I don'twant anyone to see my earbook pictures,
even if that means I can't travelsix one six, four five eight,
one oh five seven. Do youhave a travel nightmare? Do we have
(17:30):
any other colorblind people in the audiencethat have the TSA issue? Four five
A one oh five seven. Justmy warning to you. I just liked
that the TSA agent knew exactly whatI looked like and what clubs I was
in in high school in order tolet me have that flat wage. A
police officer in South Carolina demoded forusing city cameras to track his wife he
(17:52):
suspected of cheating with a fellow officer. I mean, that's just wrong,
especially in a world where we haveair tach. I don't need to go
through all that trouble. Ad BineSchmidty Costco plans to build eight hundred apartments
above its newest store. Yeah.I mean, if you watch the for
sale sign go up in my homeimmediately, Adsine. A man who recently
had abdominal surgery sneezed out part ofhis large intestine while eating breakfast in a
(18:21):
Florida diner. I'm not going togo into the medical details of this.
Just know if they use the wordthis oration, you're not coming back from
that. Adbite millionaire reportedly sets fireto his own house in bitter divorce,
British millionaire and golfer Francis McGirk allegedlyset fire to his own house so his
wife couldn't claim it in the divorce. That's not amicable, no schmitty.
(18:47):
Uh. Before before the house burneddown, though, he did text her
that he would be willing to throwthe dog out the window to make sure
it wasn't hurt. So, youknow what, things aren't all bad.
There aadbite. Okay, finally, our Christmas lovers will love this. The
Hallmark Channel has announced they are partneringwith the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs
(19:07):
to give us holiday touchdown a chief'slove story. Oh my gosh, it's
gonna drop during the fifteenth annual countdownto Christmas this year. So gross,
gonna watch it. Sch betty.Woman sue's boyfriend for not taking her to
the airport. That's right. ANew Zealand woman attempted to sue her boyfriend
of six years for not taking herto the airport before a flight. She
(19:30):
also claimed that the boyfriend was supposedto take care of her dogs while she
was gone, which he failed todo. I've heard far more litigious things.
She sounds like a keeper to MEE. That's this week s headlines,
just hitting great ones out there, always sent them Our Way, A's West
Michigan, Stock, Moodies, musicand all the gossip in one place.
(19:52):
It's the celebrity scoop on Star oneoh five point seven. Well, Team
USA for the gymnastics side of theSummer Olympics so officially confirmed last night.
Unbelievable to watch and not surprising SimoneBiles heading to her third Olympic Games.
Hubby Jonathan Owens was there as well. Beautiful floor routine done to none other
(20:17):
than Taylor Swift. Wait for it, triple double, hardest tumbling path in
the entire world, right there, hardest tumbling pass in the entire world.
(20:40):
Absolutely nailed it. And you knowit's good because then t Swift herself actually
tweeted about it last night, retweetingthe entire floor routine video, writing,
I've watched this so many times andI'm still unready, but she is ready
for it. Simone will be onTEAMU say, ahead of Sunny Lee and
(21:02):
Jordan Childs, who finished second andthird. They'll be joined by Jay Carey
and Hesley Rivera for the top five. Joscelyn Robertson and Leanne Wong joins the
squad as traveling replacement athletes. Weare going to see some really top tier
stuff in Paris. Honestly, I'mso excited for the Olympics. I love
it makes the stories. Every year. You get the stars like the Simone
(21:23):
Biles and the Katie Lideckis of theworld, but then you get the people
who become stars for yeah Country inthe Olympics. It's so cool. Speaking
of Taylor Swift playing another new neverbefore her live song for her Irish audience
over the weekend, It's the firsttime we heard Clara Bow and very cool
(21:45):
Taylor dedicating the track to her quoteunquote hero Stevie Nix. This is what
she played last night at her thirdand final Dublin gig. See it was
(22:14):
very cool. A lot of TikTokwas saying, man literally moved to tears
when she changed out the phrase toStevie Nicks, and like the entire arena
cheered and cried. It was areally cool moment. It's pretty wild just
the ties that Taylor has with boththe old artists and the new artists,
like the relationships were to say everyoneTaylor with everyone. Yeah, And finally
(22:36):
justin Timberlake seems ready to move onfrom that recent legal drama over d w
I charges. He was in Boston'sSaturday Night, the first time we've heard
him crack a little bit of ajoke about it. Is there anyone tonight
that? Yes, there anyone heretonight that could drive me home? But
(23:02):
obviously moves on. It comes justa couple of weeks after it was pulled
over in New York, and rememberhe is still headed to court on a
hearing later this month. I right, I was gonna say, I get
it, but like ooh, inkind of bad days, all of your
celebscoop at West Michigan Star dot Comtime the Battle Battle of the Sexes,
and I like instant gratification, Schmidty. And that's what we've got for you
(23:23):
today. You will give us thenumber one answer. We've got tickets for
tonight's sold out show at the FrederickMuyer Gardens Welcoming my Morning Jacket. Yeah,
cannot buy tickets because they're gone. You can win them right now though.
Today's battle question one hundred men surveyedbesides a tent what do you need
on a camping trip? I don'tsee cooler anywhere written on these number one
(23:47):
answer Smitty, And that's a problemdepends on if it's a state park.
Y'all heads up? Six one six, four, one oh five seven out
that I would know. I neverbring anything like that. It's just OJ
and milk for the kids. Fourfive eight, one oh five seven caller
seven, first chance at the numberone answer. One hundred men surveyed besides
(24:07):
a tent, what do you needon a camping trip? And you could
be headed to my morning jacket tonightat the Meyer Gardens with Star Win O
five point seven Morna and Star who'sthis all right? Denise? You gotta
tell me? One hundred guys wereasked besides a tent, name something that's
definitely on your camping list that you'regonna bring with you camping you're going with?
(24:33):
Uh yeah, you gotta bring somefood definitely, And like I mentioned
earlier, I didn't see cooler anywhereon this list. But sorry, a
little too broad there. It's alittle more specific than that. Sorry,
thank you you too, Hi,Star, who's this rot? All right?
Lindsay? I got a great guestfrom Denise just a moment ago,
one hundred guys rest to name thingsbesides a tent that you're gonna bring on
(24:56):
a camping trip, and she saidfood, and yeah, definitely recommend you
get food. I don't want to, you know, forge for berries or
anything like that on my camping trip. However, that was not on the
list of top answers. So whatdo you think it is? Uh?
So we were gonna get Moores sportsfies. Uh, who's we by the chant?
(25:18):
So that's me and my kids.Oh, you're a car full of
kids. Man, it pays off. I'm telling you to have those young
brains in the car. They thinkoutside the box sometimes because I don't understand
why it's the number two or whyit's the number one thing besides a tent,
food and some more excuse me,some moors is the top answer.
(25:40):
Congratulations, those kiddos just won youtickets to go check out my morning Jacket
tonight at the Meyer Gardens has soldout. Show. Well done, guys,
awesome, Well thank you. Afterthe ten it was some moors,
then sleeping bag, which makes aton of sense. Bug spray was up
there, and toilet paper rounding outthose tops. Answers. Yeah, that
one's kind of important to have withyou too. I feel that is important.
(26:04):
Congratulations, guys, all right, thank you, You're very welcome.
We'll do it again tomorrow another chanceto battle for another concert over at the
Frederick Meyer Gardens at eight fifteen hereon Star one oh five point seven.
Good morning to you. It's backand Schmidti And of course fourth of July
on deck Huge travel Week. Whatdid you say earlier? Triple A saying
(26:25):
over over sixty million, which willbe more than three million than last year.
A lot of road trips, andthat means lots of annoyance at your
significant other, whether maybe they bein the passenger seat or the driver's seat.
But for the sake of this argument, SMITTI, I want to talk
about when your significant other is driving, because I knew, I know,
for you, like Chris is themain driver, right, He's the one
(26:45):
who wants to get behind the wheelon road trips and he's really good at
it. He's really good. He'san excellent driver. Okay, Michelle is
not the person who normally gets behindthe wheel on road trips, but she
does. She definitely does her shareof the driving with some of it.
However, it pains me sometimes becausemy pet peeve when I'm the one driving
is that she just over communicates waytoo much. She tells me obvious things
(27:07):
that are literally things that I cansee with my two eyes right in front
of me, like oh, there'sa stompsign coming up. Yeah, I
know it's octagonal red. And ithas been a part of driving my entire
life. Drives me insane, ButI think I have to keep being the
one who drives because I was onthe highway with her yesterday coming back from
Holton Lake and my wife uses theadjustments on the cruise control like their brakes
(27:30):
and accelerator. Oh my god.Anyone who can't properly use cruise control is
I can't drive with them. Igot a fourteen year old car, okay,
Like I'm not rocking some new thingthat's got like adaptive crew or all
that cool stuff on it. WhatI've got is a jeep Cherokee where you
can push the button to increase thespeed of your cruise. You can push
the down button and it will decreasethe speed of your cruise. But that
(27:52):
is not a replacement for your brakeand your gas pedal schmidty, and my
wife was like using it and thenwe'd come up on a car, so
she'd slow it down, and thenthat car would get over into the slow
lane and then she'd use the cruisebutton to speed up past them and go
by. I'm like, what, what what are you doing? I'm like,
I don't know for certain that that'sbad for the car, but I'm
(28:15):
sure seems like I'm supposed to dothat, like, and she I didn't
say anything, maybe the first twotimes I felt her do it, and
then the third time I go,hey, hey, please, I don't
think you're supposed to use cruise likethat. And then she did it again,
and then I couldn't even talk.Doesn't say anything. He just leans
over and looks at my dash.Oh yeah, he doesn't say a word.
(28:37):
And then I goes, there aproblem. He goes, no,
I mean if you don't think there'sa problem. Yeah, we had this.
I'm sorry, that's a wife move. Those are wife words and wife
Actually we had this argument literally Saturdaynight, we drove to Duncan Lake in
Caledonia. Shout out to the VARYANXVarinx RV had us out to that place.
It was really cool, but we'rewe've never gone there, so I'm
(28:57):
using I'm using the directions. Hetold me to give him the navigation on
the Google Maps, and so hemissed our first turn. I was like,
you're supposed to take a right backthere, and he's like, what
when did you tell me that?I said, I told you it was
coming up, and he goes comingup to you could be two miles away.
So then for the rest of theride. You know what I did,
(29:18):
I said, right in point fivemiles point four miles point three miles
point two miles. I can playthis game all day, baby? What
is that thing? What is yourpet? Peeve? When your significant other
is driving? And join the conversationon Facebook at West Michigan Star. And
if you are traveling for the Fourthof July weekend, I know people use
them on planes all the time.Maybe in the car we start getting sleep
mash smitty, if I cover myeyes, maybe I just won't see all
(29:41):
the things my wife is doing inthere. Add to West Michigan Star.
Sometime does that get a good by? Well enough with the negativity, there's
plenty of that out there, butwe stick to the positive here. On
Stawino five point seven. It's Mackand Smitty with feeling good right now.
I just want to give a hugehappy anniversary to my parents. We were
(30:03):
all in Lansing yesterday. Technically itwas June thirtieth, nineteen seventy nine that
they got married, which means itis forty five years of wedded bliss.
And I just have never seen abetter example of marriage. It's just been
so fortunate and blessed to watch exactlyhow they do what they do. It
(30:26):
hasn't been easy, There's been lotsof you know, peaks and valleys,
as they say, but they havejust remained such a constant part of my
life. They're wonderful parents. They'rewonderful grandparents. And I posted this picture
if you follow me at Schmidt inthe met We got a groom picture yesterday
after dinner. And I just can'tthink of something better to see and show
(30:49):
your love than what has grown fromforty five years. There's now thirteen of
us between me and my three brothers, there's four we're all married, soon
to be married, and three grandkids. I mean thirteen in total. From
two people finding each other and sayingI do I just I can't rave about
it enough. I know not everyonegets the opportunity to see a really strong
(31:12):
marriage, and I've watched it formy entire thirty plus years and they're still
going strong. It's awesome, veryvery cool. So not only a happy
anniversary, but a thank you tomy mom and dad for just showing such
a prime example of faith, oflove, of commitment. It's pretty phenomenal
(31:33):
to watch. I can see whyyou're their favorite. Those are good words
right there. Forty five years. So happy anniversary, you guys. A
couple goals right there for sure.I love that, all right, Jiminny,
this is so cool to see.If you did not hear, the
Transplant House of West Michigan is nowopen. This is really cool. This
is a place where people who haverecently undergone organ transplants can go and stay
(31:56):
so that they can be near medicalservices with out having to break their bank
to do it. And it's allbecause of a couple that shares the journey
of being transplant recipients themselves. TracyGary and his wife Holly Wirland Gary have
been working towards this for years, and this Saturday they got to finally cut
the ribbon on the Transplant House, which will now support those people who went
(32:20):
through similar circumstances like themselves. AsTracy explained, he said, I had
three LVADs, which are left vendricralassistant devices put in, and a heart
transplant. So while I was inthe hospital for a total of five months,
I only got to stay for threenights. The rest I stayed in
hotels. You can imagine how expensivethat can get and how difficult for somebody
(32:42):
who's going through a medical fight likethat to deal with. So that was
the idea that gave birth to theTransplant House. At their reception, to
cut that ribbon and to open itup to everybody. They received an incredible
donation to somebody whose life was impactedso much by a transplant that they made.
Paul Plank has always been a giver, and he donated his own kidney
(33:07):
to his wife, Diana, andso he was so proud to continue Diana's
legacy. He explained the story tothirteen hind your Side. She was diagnosed
with systemic lopus and it destroyed bothkidneys. Twenty five years later, I
donated in my left kidney to herand she lived sixteen years. Oh,
(33:28):
that was probably the greatest feeling I'veever had, the greatest thing I've ever
done. Money has always been atool to me, and this was a
good tool for me. Now I'mgiving them the folks today love giving them
to folks they love. Gave themten thousand dollars to get the transplant out
(33:51):
of a house of West Michigan offto a great start. People can make
donations, of course, as everysixty dollars raised plays for somebody who's in
need for one night over there. It's right there next to the Miracle Mile
shops on your Fuller or Miracle Mileshops next to the Medical Mile over there
on Fuller, Schmidty. But whatan incredible start to something that's there to
give back. Absolutely feeling good comesat you twice to day. I always
(34:14):
here to pick you up with somethingpositive going on out there. We'll do
it again for you tomorrow, sixforty five and nine twenty here on Star
one oh five point seven Mack andSchmidty in the morning weekday, starting at
six am on Star one oh fivepoint seven
