D Mack and Schmitty in the Morning on West Michigan's
Christmas station Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Good morning, Schmitty.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Good morning, and happy opening Day to all of our
hunters listening other iHeartRadio app. Can I tell you've already
heard from my two guys. They woke up a little
after four, which is a big deal when you're talking
about a six year old, and started walking out to
the blind about a half hour ago.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
That's awesome. What a cool feeling that is to be
as a six year old. Like, honestly, I can't even
imagine it because I never even though I grew up
in the woods where everybody hunted, my family was not
into honey.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
We would feed beer. That's it, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
I don't know if he's quite at the excited stage.
He doesn't typically wake up at five o'clock in the morning,
so God bless him, my lovely husband.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
We'll see.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
Well, today a good day for hunters out there. We're
going to see cloudy skies and time's gonna reach out
about the mid fifties hanging out in the load of
mid forties around West Michigan right now. But here's the thing,
SCHMIDI if you're one of those people, and I would
include myself in this, that you know, if it's gonna
get cold, you want to see some snow come down.
I did see that they're looking at a possible clip
er system moving its way down from our friends in
(01:41):
Canada in time for a possible bit of snow before Thanksgiving.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Yeah, yeah, we'll see. But you know what doesn't need
the snow for the Christ Kendall Market to open another
big opening day today. That is really exciting. And by
the way, I'm going to head out there, so if
you want a little sneak preview right before the official
opening at eleven o'clock this morning, make sure you follow
us at West Michigan Star. I'll show you all the
new stuff They've doubled up on everything. It is going
(02:08):
to be such a cute spot for the season.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
Movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
It's the celebrities Goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Well, we learned back in September how to Katy would
officially be stepping away from full time duties at the
Today Show, and yesterday we found out who her replacement
will be.
Speaker 7 (02:31):
Most worthy of this.
Speaker 8 (02:33):
Craig Melvin is the new anchor of the Today who
let me just say that the stuff like larger stuff
found out this morning and people broke into applause. This
is one of the most popular decisions nbcers I've ever made.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Congratulations.
Speaker 9 (02:51):
I am beyond excited and grateful, and I just you know,
I've had a lot of conversations yesterday with a lot
of people who mean a lot to me.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
There's a lot of people really excited about this. To
Melvin had apparently been rumored for quite a bit about this.
Cotby's official last day on The Today Show will be Friday,
January tenth, and that's when Craig Melvin will step into
the role.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
I'll be honest, Hoda, Coby's such a big personality, and
I feel like Craig's a little vanilla.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
I just really you.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
I think it's a great pick. I like Craig a lot.
I like him and Chanelle together quite a bit. So
we'll see. A filmmaker has just sued Netflix and Lebron James,
the NBA Stars production company, and a host of others,
claiming they stole one of his movie scripts and then
used it as a basis for their own recent basketball movie. So,
(03:46):
if you've not seen a bit of the trailer yet
for the movie res Ball, here you go.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
With Natani Gun. They think I'm going to walk all over.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
You really think we can win with Ottom?
Speaker 1 (03:58):
I'm not about to give up on the season.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
How are you guys with me?
Speaker 7 (04:03):
So?
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Rob Grabau is his name. He's a screenwriter who directed
the twenty twenty three movie Year of the Dog. He
spelled this out in allegations of a twenty five page
lawsuit filed yesterday in California. He says he wrote a
script for the Gift of the Game, all about a
Native American high schooler and his efforts to lead his
basketball team to a state title after tragedy strikes the town.
(04:26):
He claims the work was a powerful basketball film dealing
with the issues of community, race relations, and poverty. But
after he shared it with people close to Netflix, James
and spring Hill Company completely ripped off the idea and
then repackaged it into this year's movie res Ball. He
cites multiple instances. He says he has proof of this.
(04:49):
He's suing for copyright infringement, breach of contract, and a
host of other things.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Sounds like he's got his stuff buttoned up a little
more than your usual frivolous lawsuits.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
If you were a fan of Ardam Schuvencev part of
the Dancing with the Stars crew, you might see him back.
The dancer's attorney said that Dancing with the Stars producers
haven't officially reached out to him about joining the lineup
for next season, but he would be down to return
if they're open to it. We saw him earlier this week.
He was actually specifically invited by the show's executive producers
(05:23):
to be in the studio audience for Tuesday Nights Big
five hundredth episode. Remember this all started after there was
claims of an arrest back in August for domestic violence.
He was married to Nicki Bella aka Niki Garcia. Divorce
proceedings have started between the two of them, and he's
actually been working construction to kind of make up for
(05:44):
lost income after being kicked off the show. But as
attorney maintains, he is very very close with everyone on
board and the producers would love to see him back
next year.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
It's kind of surprising, only because I feel like Disney
as just the mega corporation that they are. Anytime something
like this comes up with one of their people at
ABC is their people. Stiff Arms immediately is like, I'm.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Sorry, but I'm hearing all of your celebscoop at West
Michigan Start dot com.
Speaker 10 (06:10):
Sometimes does that get a good feeling?
Speaker 5 (06:14):
Hey, let's send in your weekend feeling good and perhaps
with delicious thoughts of stuffing on your mind. It's failing
good on Star War Fine point seven maka Schmitty with you,
And of course Turkey Day, I'm deck here pretty quick
and Governor Grutch and Whitmur just carried down the annual
tradition of pardoning a Turkey Schmitty and Lions fans, I.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Think you'll also be a fan of the name.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Of the Turkey Broy the Michigan Constitution. I here by
pardon Aiden Cluckinson.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Yes, that's right, named after Lyon's great fan favorite, Aiden Hutchinson.
Aiden Cluckinson was the winner after more than forty four
hundred submissions came from all over the state to name
this year's turkey. Aidan Cluckinson comes from a youngster in
South Lyon who named this turkey this year, and with
(07:01):
Thanksgiving just a couple of weeks away, the Governor Oustio
made some remarks that I'm sure made her children cringe.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
Our responsibility is Michiganers, is to roll up our sleeves,
tuck in our wings, and get down with the business
and get things done Thanksgiving. It reminds us all that
at our best wear, birds of a feather who flocked
together pun intended Wow.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
But schmiddie, honestly getting down to gisness is definitely going
to come out of my mouth at some point in
time this Thanksgiving season.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I do love this.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
After the pardon, Aiden Kluckinson gets to make his journey
to his new home in Saginaw's children Zoo, which I
think is pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
I prefer my fellow Michigobblers. He missed that part that
was my favorite. Hey, have you been traveling around Grand
Rapids and noticed a gentleman that now lives on a
rooftop in the city. Well, that would be Chip Kroblin
and he has been living on top of Exodus Place
for the last nine days to help raise money for
(07:56):
the incredible nonprofit. If you're unfamiliar, Exodus Place is a
gr nonprofit that seeks to help men transition out of
homelessness and ship. The facilities manager at Exodus Place pledging
to raise eight hundred and thirty six thousand dollars to
help pay off the building's mortgage and keep jobs. This
(08:17):
is incredible because he is not leaving the roof until
this happens. He's calling it roof six.
Speaker 10 (08:24):

D at twenty twenty four and even though the weather's
been pretty all right, ship understands that the forecast does
possibly call for the S word coming in the next
couple of weeks, but says that will not deter him
camping out in a tent and using a bucket on
a rope to transport food up and down from the roof.
(10:12):
He said, it's not really something you can prepare for.
It's about the passion and the work he knows Exodus
Place does every day.
Speaker 11 (10:19):
It's close to my heart because you know, if I
can help somebody, that makes me happy. So is as
long as I can mentor somebody or hell help them
along in life.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
That's where God.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Put me and God put him in Exodus Place. He
tells Wood TV. He originally came as a member. It's
their services that helped him turn his life around. Now
in a full time position, he's helping to keep the

you can change your life too. So if you want
to help out chip on this incredible fundraiser, you can
check out Exodus Place and donate.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
Am I the only one that when reading that, which
is an awesome story And I think it's so cool
that he used their services and now is out there
trying to help others do that. But how's he going
to the bathroom if he's using the bucket and the
rope to get food up and down? Shitty gets he
says it.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I just left it out, So if you want to
check it out West Michigan Star dot com.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
I know it can't just be me that was curious
about that movies, music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
It's the celebrities scoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Well fans already Cameron Diaz and Jamie Fox teaming up
once again for that new Netflix movie, and we got
the first look yesterday. The trailer for Back in Action
looks to be packing quite a bit of adrenaline.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Just like Old Times, baby, just like old times Now.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
We have been waiting quite a bit for this one.
Remember it was for first announced in twenty twenty two.
Filming kicked off that December. But this is the big one.
Jamie Fox hospitalized in April of last year following that
medical mystery which did halt production. But it's good to go.
So the movie centers on Emily and Matt getting pulled
(12:16):
back into the espionage world when their cover is blown
years after they leave their CIA spy lives behind to
start a family. This is also a big deal for
Cameron Diaz. This is her first time back in a
movie coming out of her eleven year acting retirement. We
haven't seen her in something since twenty fourteen, so this
(12:37):
is gonna be a lot of fun. Back in Action
officially drops on Netflix January seventeenth.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
Man, it's been so long since they talked about that movie.
I'd almost forgotten that that was coming out.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
In entirely, this is gonna be interesting. The drama has
hit a new level for tonight. It's the big Mike
Tyson Jake Paul fights lated live on Netflix yesterday. Out
the Way In. Things reached a fever pitch when, allegedly,
according to Mike Tyson, they did the classic stare down.
(13:09):
He says, Jake Paul purposely stepped on his foot and
he was fed up with the trash talk. This was
one foot too far, and Tyson actually smacked him in
the face, Oh, gentlemen, open handed. It kind of took
Paul back a bit. Eventually security had to actually separate
(13:33):
the two before Mike left the stage altogether. Following way
In that is tonight eight pm again live on Netflix.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
I'll be honest, I don't look like this at all.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous, but I did have to
laugh that Jake Paul was wearing a diamond encrusted ear
covering and making the joke that it was to protect
himself in case Mike wanted to take it.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
I want Mike to absolutely destroy him, as I think
most people do if I've looked at the internet comments.
Pretty well. Finally, Prince William has become a TikTok sensation
after pretty much giving the equivalent of a doctor's note
to a university student who skipped class to see him.
So the Royal was at Belfast and came up to
(14:18):
an Ulster University student who said, listen, I am skipping
a super important day at university and no one is
going to believe me that this is why. So Prince
Wills said, no worries, stick out your phone, Lensie.
Speaker 8 (14:32):
I am very sorry, relates, but they see your quart,
they wouldn't believe.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
That you were here.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
So I should say, h really really cool moment for
the Royal.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
Really cool moment for that student too, And on the
class I'd imagine as a whole all right, all of.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Your celeb scoop at West Michigan Star dot com, and.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Of course wish good luck to all the hunters out
there today for opening Day.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yeah, I mean, speaking of opening day, probably a good
traffic tip here to have those eyes peeled on your
way in the next couple days because they're to be
on the run. And I always enjoy hearing people talking
about hunting with family. It feels like such an incredible
core memory for so many people. And growing up my family,
(15:12):
we were not hunters, so it's been a brand new
thing to be married to someone who did grow up
doing this and is now passing it down to our kids.
So my husband and my six year old son are
in the up right now in their blinds because we
were we were doing this on my other show. I
think eastern United States east coast will see first light today,
(15:33):
and I think that was still like six point fifty
one because it officially starts at first light. So they
got out there. They were planning to get out there
at about five point thirty this morning and get themselves
set up. Will's got his binoculars and his Nintendo switch
because he is six, said we don't want to scare
the beer. And he was so excited. It was really cute.
This is his first full blown year. If they went
(15:54):
up a few weekends ago and they did practice, they
practiced shooting for the first time, talked about unsafety. Chris
has been really preparing him for this the last probably
three or four years. He's a very very responsible gun owner.
It's a really cool thing, and it's just like it's
just Will and Dad, right, it's really fun. And he
got his first pair of Camo bibbs and they came
(16:18):
on Wednesday and he looks at me, puts him on.
He goes, MA, shit this out, and he rubs his
legs together and he goes, they don't swish, so the
deer won't hear.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Me come in completely silent.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
I just I feel really thankful about it because it's
just one of those things. It's like fishing. I hear
a lot of people talk like, oh my gosh, I
can remember fishing with my grandpa or so many of
those memories locked in. And when I posted about this
on Facebook, it was really nice to still see people
hunt and people had this kind of camaraderie because you
heard in our West Michigan Wake Up. The DNR is
(16:51):
a little concerned. They're really seeing a lack of hunters.
The numbers have been going down, and they're telling people
like please, please, please pass this on to the next generation.
It's a huge help with the deer population in Michigan.
It's great for people to get out and do things.
You help with conservation efforts when you do this. So
even though it's not my thing to sit in a
blind for seventeen hours a day hoping that somebody walks
(17:14):
by that I can take out for a lot of you,
it is. And I really loved Lisa's comment on our
Facebook where I did post a picture of Will and
his Camo Bibbs. He's very proud, she said. Our youngest
son was born on November fifteenth, so now that he's
old enough barely, he's made it a tradition to go
up north with dad. It is great learning for both
(17:35):
of them. And boy, oh boy, what I hear when
they get a deer. That's what I want.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
I can't wait for that experience because it's going to
happen someday for your son. Do you think if a
deer you know just doesn't.
Speaker 10 (17:48):

D See Will and Chris hit All meanders its way
right up. You can't miss this thing. Who's taken that?
Speaker 3 (19:25):
I don't know?
Speaker 4 (19:25):
So Will has taken that they got a doe last year.
We'll watch the whole thing. Okay, so he just has
an officially take it a shot. But yeah, and he
was in it.
Speaker 12 (19:34):
Man.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
Chris was like, okay, no, we got to go dress it.
And we'll's like, well, what's it wearing? And he goes, no, no, here,
just watch this is what dressing the dam meats. So
and he was totally good.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
I was.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
I was so surprised because I think he's more of
like my sensitive soul. But he loved it. And then
next year will be the big year because Sophia will
be going up.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
That's gonna be cool.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
And I got to tell you when we go out
fishing with her, I mean, people get so excited They're like,
we really really love to see women doing this too,
because it's so important, Like we just love this idea
and this fact to spend time together. And they're up there,
you know, eating deep fried food and Will got to
take pop up there, so it's like the greatest.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
I already can't wait for that because I know Will
the experienced under next year, at that point, we'll be
just looking back at this little sister going on the deer.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Yeah, my favorite will be so yeah, you's Key times
and Sea Tay time, spill the too sweet.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
It's time to spill that tea. Thanks for doing it
with us, Mack and Smitty here on starlin O five
point seven and on Fridays, we get your dirts, we
get your gossip, and we give it right back to
you in tea time. Schmidty. This one for Turkey Day.
I want to know how you feel if you're this
girl's parents. Alright, so we get this message. Hey, guys,
love the Christmas music, but it's Thanksgiving drama that I
want to tell you about. My big sister and I
(20:55):
are really close, but she's a year older and just
a few weeks away from finishing her first semester at CMU.
She's been dating this guy who's a couple of years
older and from London. Well, she just dropped a bomb
on me that she's planning on leaving school and moving
to London. They have been dating for a couple of
months and my parents have only met him once at
(21:17):
an MSU tailgate. She's also planning to ask if she
can use the tuition money my parents saved up for
years to pay for the move. With action like this,
who needs the Lion's game?
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah, if you look at the comments on our Facebook,
I think a lot of people probably feel the same way.
Don't give her the tuition money. Here's the deal. She's
gonna move. You think, so, Yes, she's gonna move.
Speaker 10 (21:41):
It is what it is.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
I don't even have kids this age yet, but I'm
sure a lot of the parents chiming in are like,
I don't think there's really anyway you can attempt to
be like, are you sure about this guy? Have you
looked into how hard it might be to get a job.
But don't give her the tuition money? And honestly, the
only thing I'd say, as the sister, don't drop this
at Thanksgiving? Yeah, Oh, don't make everybody else sit in
(22:03):
the cringey room wait so later.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
I don't As a young person, though, do you remember
the feeling that like a crowd gives you a little
bit of safety, Like you feel like if you're dropping
big news, but you do it in front.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Of other people, like you want that insulation. Do it
at a restaurant. Go ahead, hit up a hotcat or
something and drop the bond there. But not thanksgiving.
Speaker 9 (22:27):
You know.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Key detail that I feel like is missing here, Smitty
that I really want to know is the boyfriend gonna
be there too? If they've only ever met at a
football tailgate with the parents before, I feel like this
should be one that maybe he's there for to have
that kind of conversation.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
But gosh, I don't blame him for wanting to avoid
that like the plague.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
I'm just wondering, like, if he's paying for your plane
tickets and everything, honey, do it get.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
Overseas on his done weighing on this TEA time up
for you right now at a West Michigan Star and
we'll take yours every Friday, going to head and send
your drama our.
Speaker 6 (22:57):
Way, movies, music, and all the gossip in one.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Place it's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five
point seven.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Well, when the holidays roll around, fans often wonder what
their celebrities will be doing, especially Taylor's swift whether she'll
be spending the big Thanksgiving holiday with the Kelsey's probably
not data. Kelse joined the Today Show yesterday to show
off some of her homemade cooking, and she is looking
real delicious, saying, ah, they're probably not even really going
(23:29):
to host a big family this year for the holiday.
Why Travis Kelce plays on Black Friday? She said, yeah, well,
you know, tis the season in football tends to dominate
our lives, so I'll probably be watching him play. As
for Taylor not do at the Kelsey's not even sure
she'll be at the game because of course she's wrapping
up that aerostour with a bunch of different Canadian dates,
(23:51):
telling Craig Melvin, I think we're just going to be
at the football game, so we're doing that.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Has Taylor had one of these one of the roles,
you' I don't think so?
Speaker 5 (23:58):
Ayah No, but you're give her absolutely and we're going
to see her, Thanksgivin. I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
She's kind of busy right now.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
She still has her tour to do now.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
In typical mom fashion, when he was asking plans, she said, oh,
nothing's planned yet. I have boys. That's fair. We all
feel that. Kim Kardashian getting very real about her experience
in motherhood, especially post divorce from Kanye West, pretty much
saying she has been solo momming. She joined the What
(24:31):
in the Winkler podcast, telling host Zoe Winkler, it can
be very judgmental and pretty.
Speaker 13 (24:37):
Hard, you know, feeling like sometimes you're in the salone,
even though we have great support systems and we have
people around us. But sometimes in the middle of the night,
when they're all sleeping in your bed kicking you and
crying and waking up like it is. You know, It's
not something that I talk about a lot because I
feel like there is always a lot of judgment or
(24:58):
people always will jump to the oh, but you have
the resources to have nanny's and to have help, and
I just think that, you know, no matter what kind
of help I have, basically raising four kids by myself,
here is you know, insane.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Yeah, you know, say what you will about Kim Kardashian
And she does a dress like, yeah, I've got Nanny's
got the whole thing. But I think it does make
a lot of moms feel just a teeny bit better
that having an eleven and eight, a six and a
five year old all crowding in your bed and kicking
you and the kidney. We've got a shared experience. Sometimes
celebs are just like us. Finally, Dwayne the Rock Johnson
(25:38):
is getting some trolls online after comparing his new Christmas
movie Red One to Oppenheimer and saying, in order to
truly truly appreciate this incredible movie, you've got to see
it in imax.
Speaker 12 (25:55):
I had an opportunity to go watch Oppenheimer, and I
watched it in the I'm Theater where Christopher Nolan watches
and screens his movies, him and Emma, his wife, And
I even asked, let me sit where Chris is sitting,
so they said, Chris sits here to enjoy the movie.
So I sat where Chris sat. I watch Oppenheim. It
was amazing, but I was thinking, this thing, Red One,
(26:16):
on this screen, with this technology, come be game over.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Fans real quick to point out, I'm so sorry Dwyane,
and I'm so sorry Chris because he's great to currently
read one has he thirty six percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Yeah, I something tells me we were going to see
the same number of Oscar nominations potentially.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
As we did for rapinoch Fan on IMAX. Sounds cool,
you guys. It does all of your celeb scoop at
West Michigan Star dot com shoving.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
The fun points. Yeavin, It's Mack and Schmidty and we
are getting you into one of the seasons best tasting events,
that's for sure. We're talking about the Grand Rapids International Wine,
Beer and Food Festival, Schmidty.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
Yeah, and heads up on the food. They have got
some incredible food planned this year. We're going to have
your tickets as the big v IP Cheers for Charity
event is this upcoming Thursday. We just need to know
your Christmas quiz. Name a gift that's difficult to wrap
for me? All of them, ye say. If you're like me,
everything's coming in a bag. Even the tissue paper sometimes
(27:13):
throws me.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
For a loop.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Six one six, four, five, eight, one oh five seven,
dollar seven. Name a gift that's difficult to rap and
you're on your way to the seventeenth Annual Grand Rappage
International Wine Beard Food Festival.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Good morning Star. Who's this?
Speaker 13 (27:28):
It's Lynn?
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Lynn?
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Where are you calling from today?
Speaker 12 (27:31):
I'm all right, Lynn.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
One hundred of.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Dollars were asked uh name a Christmas gift that is
hard to wrap?
Speaker 3 (27:39):
What do you think? Their top answer was.
Speaker 13 (27:41):
I'd say, because I've attempted this A bicycle.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
A bicycle. I have attempted to do that before.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
It.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Guess what? It looks just like a bicycle? Better, what
you do?
Speaker 5 (27:52):
I feel like bicycles actually the number three most common answer.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Though, I'm sorry, Okay, thanks.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Good morning star.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Who's this?
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Hi?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
This is Jen, Jen. I just got a great guess
from Lynn.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
When one hundred adults were asked to name a gift
that's difficult to rap, she said the one I was
thinking of, too, because I've failed at it before, a bike.
But that was actually the number three most common answer.
So you've got a chance here.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
What do you think it is?
Speaker 4 (28:17):
Jen? I was gonna say that too.
Speaker 6 (28:20):
I'm gonna say a remote control car.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Ooh, remote remote control car.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
Yeah, those could be tough for the same reason as
a bike, sometimes really oddly shaped, but not on the list.
I'm sorry, Jen. Thank you Hi, star, Who's this Susan.
I got a couple of good guesses so far, but
not the top answer. One hundred adults were asked to
name a gift that's really hard to wrap, and I
heard a bicycle, and then I just heard a remote
control car. Bicycle was the number three most common answer.
(28:49):
But still got a chance here, and I'll give you
a hint, Susan. It's difficult to rap because of its shape.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
A ball. Yeah, you know.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
They even started putting balls sort of in like square
boxes just to make it easier for well wrapping, wrapping
impaired people like myself who just can't do it at all.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Basketball is the top answer, Susan.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Waitna go?
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Yes, it was basketball, followed.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
By stuffed animals than bicycles and the fourth answer, Yeah,
you shouldn't try and wrap any pets. Don't wrap your
pets this holiday season, folks. Glita go, Susan. You're going
to the Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer and Food Festival. Yeah,
it's gonna be a blast. Kicks off next Thursday with
the Cleanksoff Next Thursday, runs through the weekend over at
(29:38):
devoce Place and you can altio take a shot at
winning some tickets at West Michigan Star dot com or
just be listening all next week is we'll give you
more chances to win here on Star.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Happy Holiday, Susan.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
I love the jingles that you remember for your entire life, Schmitti,
because I don't know about you, but I've got commercial
jingles that I remember from back when I was a kid. Yeah,
do you have one that sticks in your head for
like a business that isn't even you know, they even
around Minard say you can say big.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Money every single time.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
Well, I want to know what it is for you
that you have the one burned in your brain, because
yesterday I got the chance to go and do this
for an entire classroom of ten year olds basically fourth
grade classroom of Miss Whole Worda over at Quincy Elementary
in Zeeland. Schmidty and Miss whole Worda happens to know
a good friend of ours, Abby Elberts from Jay and
H Family Stores. She is such a big saint for
(30:31):
us when it comes for radiothon time. But she actually
had a student that came in singing this song, the
Jay and H Family Stores jingle, and the next thing
you know, more of her students started doing it, so
she told Abby about this, and they decided they're gonna
use the kids on the back of their commercials.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Kids singing is the cutest thing in the whole wide world.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
So I got to go in there yesterday to record this.
Check this out, schmiddy. This is Miss Hooleworda's fourth grade
class over in Zealand. This is Miss whole word is
fourth gread class.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Can you guys say huh?
Speaker 5 (31:03):
And we are here to capture the J and H
Family Stores jingle that gets stuck in all of our heads.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
These guys have been practicing. Are we ready? Misordered?
Speaker 13 (31:10):
We are ready?
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Let's do this?
Speaker 7 (31:14):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (31:15):
Arming?
Speaker 1 (31:20):
How aless?
Speaker 4 (31:20):
We couldn't do it better ourselves.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
Guys absolutely crushed it. They actually right after that did
it a cappella style to SCHMIDDI that's how good they are,
family nail, give yourselves a round of applause on this
A worders class.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Yes awesome?
Speaker 7 (31:42):
Is that so uh?
Speaker 5 (31:44):
They're actually going to be listening to that this morning
in their classroom. But for sure stuck in all of
those kids head till the end of time.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
And on our Instagram, you celebrities at West Michigan starting.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
A five point See I been about to perky upcause
you head into your weekend. Let's get to feeling good.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Sometime.
Speaker 7 (32:02):
Does that get a good feeling?
Speaker 13 (32:04):
Well?
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I know when we think Christmas, we think December, but
for Metro Detroit, Christmas comes in November. This is so cool.
The Ascend Foundation, an incredible group of people, have partnered
up with Amazon to host their third Christmas in November.
This actually goes down in Pontiac with a free shopping
(32:25):
event for community members in need. It's unbelievable. Amazon has
donated two million dollars worth of products to make this happen.
Families attending have access to clothing, tools, household items, electronics,
toys and tons more, and every guest over the age
of ten actually gets tickets which act like currency to
(32:47):
purchase items of different prices all throughout the event. So
think like brother and sister even getting to shop for
each other. It is a huge deal for families that
are in need this holiday season, and it was all
started thanks to an idea from Kano Phillips. He's the
president and CEO of the Essend Foundation. Not only is
this a huge help, but he does praise Amazon for
(33:09):
understanding this.
Speaker 9 (33:10):
Well, King Express, how much I appreciate Amazon doing what
I think corporations need to do a lot more of.
You're going to come into a community to make money
off of individuals in a community, you need to go
ahead and figure out a good way to philanthropically give
back to those communities.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
And that's exactly what's happening. Un told NBC seven doors
will be open at three o'clock and this is going
to be a huge deal as they continue to make
this happen and get bigger and bigger every single year.
Merry Christmas in November.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (33:37):
All right, Smitty, We're finally getting our very own version
just for Grand Rapids. It's official. We're getting our home
Molopoly games. Yea Monopoly is coming. Has Bro partnered with
top Trump's USA. They're going to be making the game.
Speaker 7 (33:51):
Now.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
This is really cool.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
It's going to have some of our favorite landmarks around
Grand Rapids. Frederick Meyer Garden's going to be on there,
the Heritage Hill neighborhood for New Zambridge Street market.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
But check this out.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
They're actually looking for other Grand Rapids businesses and nonprofits
to include on the iconic Monopoly board. I mean, do
you have anything any mind that you would right off
the badges throw in there? Mel Trotter, Mel Trotter, I
wass thinking the hospital. I was like, ma'am, could you
put up Allen DeVos on there? How sweet would that be?
But you can actually submit your nominations on the top
(34:21):
Trump website. We'll put up for you West Michigan Star
dot com. Unfortunately not going to be here in time
for this Christmas season, as is expected.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
In fall of next year.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
They want a lot of input. I got hit up
by them earlier this week, and so they really want
to make this awesome and very grand Rapids driven.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
Right, very cool, love it feeling good, Always here to
tell about stuff going on out there that puts a
smile on your face you can take with you end
of the rest of your day. And it's all brought
to you by our friends at the seventeenth annual Grand
Rapids International Wine, Beer and Food Festival.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
It is here before we know you guys. This upcoming Thursday,
the special Cheers for Charity event goes through Saturday at
de Vos Place. You can check it all out Grwine
