Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mac and Schmitty in the morning on West Michigan's Christmas station,
Star one oh five point seven. Well, good morning, Schmitty,
Good morning. Welcome into your Tuesday. And if you live
along your lake shore, it's an action pack Tuesday, because man,
the snow didn't stop over there, Schmitty. Yeah, just Captain
coming down. I saw some massive snowfalls all over there,
(00:21):
everything from six inches to a foot depending on where
you were at on the lake shore.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, my husband's so jealous. He's so jealous of all
of you. Oh my goodness, you wanted.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
That movies, music, and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Well, the internet is in agreement. This was really, really
awkward last night, Daniel Craig calling out Stephen Colbert for
mispronouncing his name after years of being on the show,
and then as Steven's trying to figure out what he's saying,
you can tell like Daniel's not really joking around this.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Take a listen.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Oh, I have a bone to pit with you.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
You have a bone to be at six shows save
my name, Daniel Craig, Well, now you're doing it right.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Why did I say Craig, Yes, it's a diphthong. I
don't say Colbett, Daniel Craig.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Did I not say Daniel Daniel Craig. You know you
don't hear the difference? One more time, please, Daniel Craig.
Daniel got right, Daniel Craig.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, the first one sounded say I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Sorry, Daniel Craig.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
That is Daniel Craig. I hear the difference. That is subtle.
That is a subtle difference. And I and I and
I apologize. Do you okay? Thank you? I apologized.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
It was really weird and cringing, and everyone was like,
oh man, yeah, maybe you I guess Craig Craig, Daniel
Craig for everyone that needs to know.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
I didn't know that. And that was the audio version
of being at the Optimologist and them be like, does
it look clear in one or two?
Speaker 3 (02:02):
One or two to get it though, because honestly, if
somebody calls me smitty one more time here at work,
there's an H in the email signature line.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Y'all all right, this is interesting.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Serena Williams, the tennis pro, adamantly denying that she is
making major changes to her appearance after a recent video
has gone really viral.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So she was out showing.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Off some of her kids' school play when a lot
of people notice that she may have been lightening her skin.
She was clearly very upset about this, writing back, no,
for you haters out there, I do not bleach my skin.
She actually hopped on Instagram live yesterday to bring this
up during her makeup routine, continuing the clap back by saying,
(02:47):
there is a thing called sunlight, and in that sunlight,
you get different colors. She also pointed out she was
wearing stage makeup because she was volunteering to help the
kids along with her daughter backstage at the performance. She
made it very clear she is not shading anyone who
elects to alter their skin, but it's not for her,
adding I'm a dark black woman and I love who
(03:08):
I am.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
And how I look.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I mean, everybody gets so up in arms every time
they see a photo that looks a little bit different
than other photos.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
So weird, all right, this is some major drama. After
one hundred and three years, the Miss America pageant filed
for bankruptcy, but the ex CEO is calling this a
reckless move and we still have a major ownership brawl.
I thought this is fascinating. So Robin Fleming, who became
its president and CEO last year, and real estate developer
(03:38):
Glenn Strab both filed claims in court alleging they have
sole ownership of the business.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Strab is the.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
One who filed for Chapter eleven bankruptcy protection in West
Palm Beach, while Fleming is saying this is reckless. We
do not need financial protection. And apparently the pageant is
supposed to kick off January first, which won't happen if
this is still in.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Court, shooting right down from the children's pageants all the
way up through Mission America. Why does it seem like
the pageant scene is just rife with scammers and like.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Christy Scandal, it's rife with scandal crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
All of your celeb scoop at West Michigan Star dot.
Speaker 5 (04:16):
Com sometimes because I get a good feeling.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yes, Stallino, fine point seven, it's Mack and Schminney. I'm
always looking to get the day off to a great start.
It's feeling good right now. And this pretty incredible Thanksgiving
Day where Randy Fox Velbion he wasn't thinking about Turkey
as much as he was thinking about fish, telling Fox seventeen,
I'm fish no matter how cold it is outside, and
that's what he wanted to do. On Thanksgiving Day, while
(04:43):
his wife was getting ready to cook some dinner, he
went down to the shore to catch a fish, and
instead what he did was wind up saving lives. Ten
minutes into his fishing expedition, Fox said he hurt a
car coming quickly down the road. Told Fox seventeen, I
looked over my right and saw cars that was leaving
the roadway, and I knew that car was going to
(05:04):
hit the river, the Kalamazoo River. Well, the former Eagle
scout said, he knew right away that he was going
to jump into action, started running down the road immediately
called nine to one pint one, And as he was
jogging down there noticed a crowd gather right where the
car had entered the water. He said, A lady said
to me, sir, you can't go in there, and I
just looked at her. I said, this is what I do.
(05:27):
He stripped down to his draws to make sure that
he stood a better chance against the cold, cold, frigid water,
and went in went in after this vehicle that was
sinking quickly in about four feet of water. His biggest
worry was whether or not someone inside the car was
actually unconscious. Bitch, the driver actually was coming in and
out of consciousness. Thankfully, the passenger was not injured, and
(05:49):
together with a safety officer there in Albion, they managed
to get both people back onto the shore safely as
paramedic crews were arriving. He said. The whole rescue, he things,
took only about thirteen minutes, which was huge because of
how cold that water is. And he's really happy he
was there because he's not sure that anybody else was
willing to get in.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Things may have been different if I wasn't there, because
while there was a gathering of people, no one seemed
willing to go in. It's not what I expected from
my day, and I'm sure it's not what they expected
from their day.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
But if certainly they are thankful that Randy Fox was
the one who was there fishing that day on Thanksgiving
and was able to pull them out while the driver
was in critical condition. Both are expected to recover all right.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
And Illinois family celebrated a very special Thanksgiving last week,
inviting a US postal worker to join them for the holiday.
So Guy and marsham Miller live in Aurora, Illinois, and
it was last week back on the sixteenth, that guy
was heading out to walk their pup per usual, but guy,
who is a diabetic, ended up losing his balance and
(06:56):
cracking his head on the cement.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Good thing.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Jalen Lockhart was a substitute mail carrier that Saturday afternoon.
He'd never met the family, did not know the Millers
at all, but on his mail route he just happened
to look in the rear view mirror. He saw a
guy lose his balance and take that fall, didn't you
turn got to him as quick as he could. Well
there was quite a bit of blood. He started to
alert neighbors, called nine one one, made sure everyone was okay,
(07:24):
and according to the family talking to Gma, that's why
they knew they had to find the man who made
this holiday a very special one.
Speaker 7 (07:30):
Daughter reached out on Facebook so we could somehow thank him,
and we got his name Sunday morning right away and
got to meet him Sunday at his apartment and we connected.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
We just connected all of us and.
Speaker 7 (07:44):
I said, your family, what are you doing for Thanksgiving?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Right away?
Speaker 7 (07:48):
Hurt my daughter's family and he and his family, from
what I understand, talk daily.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
They've gotten very close.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
So he's coming to Thanksgiving with his wife and little baby.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
So we're looking forward to it.
Speaker 8 (08:01):
The new family.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
How cool is this? Listen to guy get emotional, karup bad.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
Thing that that's just allow I got to know up
day on a good science.
Speaker 7 (08:12):
It's a good thing to learn.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
He starts sobbing.
Speaker 8 (08:19):
Daniel love friend.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
He gained another friend. The story is really cool. Got
it up for you at West Michigan Star dot com movies,
music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Well, the internet is in the middle of quite a conversation.
Is Llo Cool Jay the greatest rapper of all time?
Because he just hopped on the liqud podcast and said, yeah,
he is.
Speaker 9 (08:45):
You know, I'm gonna say this what humbly, but I
really mean this. I think one day people are gonna
wake up and realize that Llo Cool Jay is the
most important rapper that ever existed. I truly believe one
day people are gonna say that. They're gonna say yo,
They're gonna look and they're gonna say, Wow. When it
comes to the jewelry, this is the guy who introduced
all the diamond and ice in the champagne.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
They're gonna say.
Speaker 9 (09:04):
When it comes to the love songs, this is the
guy who introduces the love songs and all the love.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
When it comes to.
Speaker 9 (09:09):
The bad boy vibe, they're gonna realize, Oh, this is
the guy who introduced all the rebellious bad boy vibes
before was done. When it comes to the goat terminology,
they're going to say, Yo, this is the guy who
came up with the goat stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I mean, what do you think is he the goat?
Speaker 1 (09:24):
No, that doesn't take away from an incredible career where
he's a pioneer of course in hip hop and an
absolute legend. Doesn't make you the best of all time. Though.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
I just like to point out a lot of people
online are saying, Hey, this man was doing it before
today's streaming audience was even.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Born, So step off and have some respect.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Kristin schenow With absolutely nailed Glinda on Broadway with that
wicked cast, But she is passing the Batonda ariana Grande
in a really cool way.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Check this out.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
We just got some behind the scenes ootos of her
and Ariana rocking matching custom pink Glinda jackets while filming.
Ari explains that she was absolutely blown away and surprised.
According to Kristin, it's a little physical memento of our
passing of the Wand not to spoil anything of what
(10:15):
maybe Kristin does in the movie, but she said, listen,
watching and leading Arianna down the yellow brick road or
any road really is amazing and I could not be
prouder of her. And as for Arianna, she is just
sobbing through the whole thing. But it's really cool.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Honestly, every all this talk about the movie, I just
got to go see it.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
You really do? You really do?
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Finally, speaking of another highly anticipated movie, of course, Happy
Gilmore too. We've gotten a lot of rumor about possible
celebrity cameos because they've been keeping this pretty tight lipt.
But we got some behind the scenes photos there as well,
and it looks like Bad Bunny, who we knew was
some part of the movie, is going to be Adam
(10:55):
Sandler's caddie. They dropped some photos of him looking very
similarly dressed to a caddy, and some fans think he
might be part of kind of a redo scene after
that really bad golf shot off into the woods from
the first one.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
But the two seem to be getting along great.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Ad has been super open about every celeb that's been
a part of this movie has been absolutely tremendous.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
I mean, don't think you have to bring back the
original caddy from Happy Gilmore. Is that gentleman still with us?
Like I feel like he was a key role in
that movie.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
I don't know if he's still with us, but I'm
a bad Bunny fan, so I'm all here for it.
You can see that behind the scene pick as well
as some of those wicked picks with your scoop at
West Michigan.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Start off on good.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Morning to you. It's Mack and Schmide and tis this
season for taking all those holiday photos?
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Well, no, we don't take holiday photos.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
So I'm curious if your parents, I'm trying to say
this as nicely as possible, are of a certain age
and maybe this is what they do for pictures. My
mom loves switching out the family pictures at home, like quarterly,
especially when something big happens. My brother got engaged a
few months ago, and so we got home for Thanksgiving,
(12:03):
and I noticed all four of our pictures had been
swapped out. She had a new family picture of my brother,
my sister in law, and my nephew, a new one
of my other brother, and then the engagement photo of
my final brother. But it was our family picture of Chris,
me and the kids that I noticed a little stamp
on the bottom right corner that said happy Fall. And
(12:26):
I walked up and I looked at it and I go, Mom,
did you take this off of Snapchat? My mother frames
Snapchat pictures. She saves them in the group chat and
then like downloads them to her phone and goes somewhere
and gets them printed. And I'm looking at my sister
in law, I'm like, these are from Snapchat. Look, you
(12:47):
can see like the little snaps, like one had an
emoji on it, and I noticed that. Then I look
at my kids baby pictures that she has.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Those are from Snapchat too.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I could see like the little heart that I put
on it when I sent like everybody the message yeah,
and I'm just like, mom, we can, we can send
you just like the regular picture in text. We even
have a photo album that we all share together. And
I posted this video on my TikTok, and I had
so many people. Meg was like, my mother in law
(13:19):
does the exact same thing. My buddy Nick was like,
my mom does this, only everything comes off of Facebook
and she doesn't crap them so like she has framed
like the comments section and the like button, and I
think it's the most hilarious thing, and.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I kind of love it.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
I I no longer want anything professionally done. I only
want my Snapchat photos hanging over the mantle.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
I just love, you know, text shavvy enough to have
a Snapchat account, yeah, not tex shavvy enough to not
just do that with regular photos.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
I don't know if she like doesn't want to ask
us for them or what, but I was just like, Mom,
you don't have like even the quality is probably a
little better if we just text it to you. So
I don't know if you've got what you think are
tech savvy parents that just have that one thing that's
a little weird.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
My dad, also of a certain age. He has not
started printing digital photos. That's still way beyond his capabilities.
What he does instead is he still takes actual photos
with his film camera and then once every nine months
or so, we get a handful of like sixty photos
and it's just like it was in the ninety Schmidty.
(14:27):
Half of them are terrible with awful life dies.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
He go, I would love that's like such a thing.
Now is regular film cameras again? Like disposable cameras. The
last two weddings I went to, disposable cameras were on
every table.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
That's a great ada.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
I just have no idea where to get film developed.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
I think you can still do it like Walgreens. I
couldn't tell you because I haven't done it in so
long myself.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Every place I've gone Walgreen, CBS even you can't do
it anymore. You have to have it shipped out.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Do you think you can walk up in the gen
Z or the Jen Alpha behind the counter and you're likely?
Will you guys develop this disposable camera and then look
at you like you're insane.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Because they all have disposable cameras. They're getting like the polaroids.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Now give us a call six one six four five
eight one oh five seven that funny not so tech
savvy thing your parents do. Or if you've got a
hot a hot lead, I'm where I can get film
actually actually done? I would love that because I'm looking
to do a photo wall over Christmas break.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I could do some advice.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Just pull them off sash Chat. Your mom's got to
figure it out here, Schmitty. First off, most people's parents
having access to their Snapchat photos is a nightmare and cardt.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Right, No, no, no, no, it's only some bycent. I'm not an animal.
What are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Point seven? Monk and Schmitty, And it's time for you
to lead down on the couch Smitty.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
So Salky, this is not just me man. I saw
so many people posting about it yesterday. Of course it
was cyber Monday, and I bet that your email inbox
was full of emails from every single possible thing you
have signed up for since you got an email at
the age of thirteen. I get it, like, it's cyber money.
(16:04):
You want to let me know the deals. What I
don't need is twelve emails from the same company in
a five hour limit. There were some of these places
that it was like, hey, only got eight hours to go,
Hey only had seven hours fifty four minutes to go. Hey,
did you check this out? Only got six hours thirty
(16:24):
nine minutes. I'm like, I probably deleted seventy eight emails
yesterday from my personal Gmail.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
But that's not the important parts, Mondy. The important part
is actually did you buy the thing that they were
pressuring they go?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
One of them got me to do it.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Really, so stalky movies, music and all the gossip in
one place.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Well, Britney Spears marked two major milestones yesterday.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Not only was it.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Her forty third her birthday, but as she shared on Instagram,
she is officially single.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Her divorce from Sam Asgari became a done deal yesterday,
which took a bit.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Sam filed for divorce.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Back in August of last year after that pretty rocky
fourteen month marriage.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Now no major issues.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
The couple had a prenup, but Brittany had to pay
rent for a bit and then Sam figured stuff out.
So not only is she celebrating the birthday but turning
a new page on the dating life. She actually boarded
a private jet to go celebrate with friends down like
in the Caribbean or something somewhere that.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yeah, it sounds like a pretty good birthday and a
little single celebration, even though I think both of them
have dated people over like the least.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Oh yeah, they've They've moved on big, big time.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Angelina Jolie scoring a major legal victory against her ex
husband Brad Pitt, a judge ruling Brad must hand over
documents and communications which could prove he was abusive towards
Angelina and their kids. The couple have been in this
terribly acrimonious legal battle. The center of this is that
(18:04):
French Vineyards still talking about it. The ongoing dispute has
seen the feuding exes attack each other in legal filings
after legal filings. But this is a big one because
in order to produce these they have given Brad the
date that Jolee claims he abused her on a private plane.
Remember this is all the way back to twenty sixteen,
(18:26):
right before their separation. She's previously accused him of pouring
red rhine and beer over her and one of the
couple's kids on this trip, and he's always denied being abusive.
But we'll see what comes out in these official communications.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Obviously, that flight is like the lynchpin for everything Angelina
Jolie is trying to say about this. I just think
It's insane how long this has gone on and how
badly they are still fighting it when they only have
two kids that are under the age of eighteen. Out
of their six kids, They've got the twins that are sixteen.
Everybody else is legal adult. This is so weird.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
I think this is the.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Vineyard, not really the kids. I mean, she's trying to
take control of all of this. That will include emails, texts,
and any other written thing between the couple. Finally, Kate
Winslet still remembers the worst part about Titanic, and it
is by far how horrifically body shamed she was. We
continue to get more clips from that sixty minutes interview
(19:21):
she did reflecting on her incredible career, and she talked
specifically about a clip from the nineteen ninety eight Golden
Globes red carpet where one of the E News presenters
talked about how she looked melted and poured into her
dress and if she had just gone two sizes up,
she'd be okay. She did not hold back, even talking
(19:42):
about the moment she finally got to come face to
face with these people that were so horrific to her.
Speaker 10 (19:48):
It's absolutely appalling. What kind of a person must they
be to do something like that to a young actress
who's just trying to figure it out?
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Did you ever face to face with any of those people?
Speaker 10 (20:02):
I did get face to face.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
What'd you say?
Speaker 10 (20:05):
I let them have it? I said, I hope this
haunts you.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
And how serious she felt about this?
Speaker 2 (20:11):
She gets very emotional. It was a great moment.
Speaker 10 (20:17):
It was a great moment because it wasn't just for me,
It was for all those people who were subjected to
that level of harassment.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Isn't that insane? It's a really incredible interview.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
I mean, it's wild to think about, just because you know,
like you would watch that movie in the nineties and
think like the epitome of gorgeous, you know, absolutely beautiful,
stunning woe.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
No, she was torn apart by just about every single
thing out there, but she is amazing. I've got the
interview for you with your scoop at West Michigan Star
dot com.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
A five points. Sevin Macin's ready looking to get you
out to a holiday tradition we hope for your family,
the Christmas light show at LMCU Ballpark.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Yeah, we're talking more than two million lights the memory
train they've got. It's so cool, and today's Christmas quiz
is going to score you in the family. Those passes
real easy. Who would Santa invite to his birthday party?
Speaker 11 (21:10):
Ooh?
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Who would he invite? Well, you gotta invite Rudolph because
Rudolph's already got sort of like a fomo complex from all.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
The you know what the d I'd be asked, we
watched Santa Claus two with the kids last night and
the meeting of the legendary figures.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
There's Santa's b day party, but.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
You got to know who that might be? Looking for
that number one answer six one, six, four five eight,
one oh five seven. Who would Santa invite to his
birthday party?
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Caller seven?
Speaker 3 (21:36):
You could score those Christmas light show passes with star
onine oh five twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Good morning Star, who's this good?
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Good Carrie?
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Carrie?
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Where are you calling from today?
Speaker 2 (21:44):
From Kalamazoo?
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Kerry from Klama Zoo. Let's get you into the Christmas
light show at LMCU Ballpark. Kerry gotta tell me one
hundred doults. We're asked, who might Santa Claus invite to
his birthday party? Missus clause missus Clause, she better get
an invit or that dude's going to be sleeping out
with the reindeer for the next three hundred and sixty
five days. I'm pretty sure missus Klaus is the top answer. Congratulations,
(22:09):
fuck you. Yeah, it was Missus Claus, followed by Frosty
the Snowman, which I thought was an interesting pick there
for sure. Uh, followed by the reindeer and then the
tooth Fairy. For some reason, people thought the tooth Fairy
should get an invite.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
That's a great advice.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Yeah, he's got the money. There you go. Congratulations, you're
gonna go check out the Christmas light show there at
MCU Ballpark, open every single night, including Christmas, New Year's Evening,
Or's Day, all of that right up through the fourth
of January this year. Congrats, Well, thank you wonderful, You
are very welcome. We'll do it again tomorrow. Your Christmas
Quiz eight fifteen here on Star one on five point seven.
(22:45):
Merry Christmas, carey, thank you you too, a five point
seven Good morning to you. It's Mac and Schmidty and man.
So much is happening holiday wise around West Michigan, and
not that much bigger than what we got going down Saturdays.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
It's super important. The big guy is officially come into town.
It's the gentechs Santa Parade and joining us right now
that Pigman. She is the City of Grand Rapids special
events manager, and russ Hinz joins us with Riverbank Events
and Media this Saturday. And we're mostly ready, but there's
still some ways that we can help in the community,
(23:20):
right absolutely.
Speaker 7 (23:22):
Yeah, without question. We still need some volunteers for the
Santa Parade. So if you and your family are interested
in coming down and being involved, we'd love to have you.
Just go to Grsanta Parade dot com, click on the
link on the upper right hand side that says Volunteers
and sign your family up and some people be in
contact with you and we'd love to have you. We
just want to make sure that we have lots of
people this year, especially since the parade's moving from a
(23:43):
morning parade to an evening parade. We just want to
make sure the streets are nights and safe.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
I am so excited for it. First off, my kids
come down each and every year and they walk the
parade route with the Star one Zho five point seven
entry and they have a blast. So the idea of
getting to be a volunteer while you watch all those
incredible floats, see all those you know bans from around
West Michigan that always come out for it, and this
year to see it for the first time all lit
up at night is going to be such a cool experience.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Phenomenal now that there is a ton that's going to
be going on downtown that night.
Speaker 8 (24:11):
Absolutely, we have so many vendors and partners that will
be a long Monroe Center. There's gonna be free hot chocolate, frees'mores.
Speaker 6 (24:20):
For the women.
Speaker 8 (24:20):
You can actually get a hand massage.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Woah, I'm sorry, rush back me up here. Guys like
their hands massage please.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Doing the majority of the gift round.
Speaker 8 (24:30):
Absolute, lots of freebies, lots of giveaways games. There's gonna
be free pictures with Santa as well as we have
a snow globe that you can actually walk in and
get your picture taken.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
Oh my gosh, wow, I mean do they had me
at cookies. I'll be honest with you. That's that's really
where it tipped the scales for me. But I'm so
excited to see how it all lays out because it's
in a new spot this year. We're doing a bit
of a different parade route right we are.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
So there was a lot of events going on in
downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, so we had to work
with the city and come up with a route that
was going to be conducive for everybody being down here
as well as parking for everybody.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
So we're gonna start up on Division.
Speaker 7 (25:08):
We're gonna go down to Crescent and then to Ionia
to Pearl to Ottawa to Lewis. So as the parade
comes along, we're gonna start think about starting in the
northeast side of downtown. Yeah, and then we're gonna work
our way down to Rosa Park Circle and the parade
will start at five o'clock. The good news is that
we've just we were in contact with Santa yesterday and
(25:30):
he's still on his way and he is planning on
arriving here for the parade at five o'clock and then
working his.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Way down to Rosa Park Circle.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
He'll be there by six point thirty so that we
can have the three lighting ceremony at six forty five.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Well, I'm just thinking out loud with the big guy.
Volunteering is a great way to make the nice.
Speaker 7 (25:49):
List without questions, A good point, good point to.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Front and center FaceTime with Santa right there so you
know he's picking it up. Absolutely wanna make it happen
the gen Tech Santa Claus Parade downtown Grand Rapids, five
o'clock this Saturday. For all the info and a volunteer
it is g R Santa Parade dot com. But Russ
Hines of Vett Pittman, thank you so much for helping
to put this on for our community. We're so excited.
(26:16):
So are we We are.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Too sometime because I get a good feel, let's do
It's middy trying to make your morning just a lead
a little bit brighter along with your holiday season.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
It's feeling good on Star.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Well, I'm gonna do that with Christmas lights. This is
one of the sweetest Christmas stories I think I've ever heard,
and I am A man decorates his entire neighborhood to
celebrate his wife's love of Christmas. See John Reiker loves Christmas,
but what he loves more his wife of fifty three years, Joan,
(26:51):
who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's four years ago. Now, the
marine veteran is making it his mission to keep her
memories going by bringing joy and light, leaving it up
to him to decorate every single house on his block
for every Christmas. The first couple of years, neighbors admit
they were pretty surprised, like are you serious? But there
(27:12):
he was with lit Christmas trees, Christmas lights inflatables, giant wreaths,
all to make sure that he can share the love
of Christmas with Joan for as long as possible. If
it wasn't for her, not sure he'd be doing any
of this.
Speaker 11 (27:25):
He wasn't from my wife. I don't know if I
would have done it, but she wanted Christmas, so I'll
give it to her. I'll do anything to make her happy.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
I didn't know what to think, but I'm glad he'd
get it. I love him.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
Oh my gosh, it's so cool.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
They sat down with CBS and then discovered that neighbors
are stepping into help. There's groups of people that are
volunteering their time to now help John. It's something that
he doesn't think he's ever going to end.
Speaker 11 (27:53):
As long as she's okay, and even if she would pass,
I'm going to do it in her memory as long
as I can do it.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
I mean, husband of the Year. It's a really really
sweet look.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
And when you see the decorations that he does, I mean,
this guy is not going small. You check it out
West Michigan Star dot.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Com seriously making the rest of us look back us
so sweet. All right, schmitty the real short and sweet
here as a matter of fact, because this is just awesome.
But it's happened every year for the last twenty because
twenty twenty four does mark the twentieth anniversary for Trees
for Troops, which ships Christmas trees to military bases all
across the country. And yesterday right here in West Michigan,
(28:33):
over at wamaf Farms in Goebels, they prepared three hundred
and sixty three Christmas trees prepped for delivery yesterday. Really cool.
Colonel James Ross, who's a commander for the one hundred
and tenth Wing in Battle Creek, just talking about where
these Christmas trees are going to wind up and why
this is such an awesome thing to bring back each
(28:53):
and every year to support our troops.
Speaker 12 (28:57):
Bases across the nation are going to receive Christmas tree
is that are donated from farms just like this.
Speaker 11 (29:02):
Right here.
Speaker 12 (29:03):
Walmhall Farms is contributing their time and efforts and trees
so that military men and women can can celebrate Christmas
around a Michigan grown Christmas tree.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
On a Michigan grown Christmas tree. Love to see it
those ones that they packed up yesterday or get a
head off to bases in Fort Knox in Kentucky as
well as Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. But a big,
gigantic thank you for your service to each of our
military members. But love to see that they get their
Christmases too.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Nothing better than a Michigan tree that's right.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Feeling good comes at you a couple times today. I
want to share the great things that are going on
all around you when you're looking for it. We'll do
feeling good again tomorrow six forty five and nine s
