Good morning, Schmitty, Good morning, guys.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Welcome into you Tuesday. It's pretty mild one temperatures hovering
right about forty degrees. It'll be a cloudy day but warm.
At least time's getting up into the low sixties around
West Michigan. And get out and enjoy it too, because
the ten day forecast looks a little less forgiving from
that point forward.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
At least we're in a roller coaster. It's what ellen
Bacha said last night.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Well did you enjoy your Saint Patrick's day yesterday at all? Schemedde?
Did you? Did you partake in any more Shenanigans or no?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Put up with some friends?
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Nice?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Nice eveno.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
You know, as as someone of Irish said, I did
nothing yesterday, both my wife and I. I was just
ragging and I feel bad. I feel like, you know,
there's Irish ancestors rolling over in their graves because I
didn't enjoy at least one Guinness yesterday, but just couldn't
bring myself to down than we did.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
An interview on my other station and he said, Yeah,
the people in Ireland do not do it like people
in America, and they really are pretty lost at how
hard you go. So no matter what you did yesterday,
you did it.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
Just five movies, music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
It's the celebrities gup on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Man, was it a dazzling night last night as we
celebrated some of the biggest in music at our iHeartRadio
Music Awards and in fact, Miss Taylor Swift that you
just heard there at a monster night here let me
go real quick. Tour of the Century, Artist of the Year,
Pop Album of the Year, Best Lyrics, Best Music Video,
Favorite Tour, Style, Favorite Tour, Tradition, Favorite Screen, Favorite, Surprise Guest,
(01:42):
all of which she had huge nominations and wins. For
a Song of the Year though Benson Boone with Beautiful Things.
We had Album of the Year going to Billy Eyelish
that people were really excited about Gaga and Bruno grabbing
Best Collaboration for Die with a Smile and one of
those moments people really loved the surprise from none other
(02:04):
than Ashanti to Nelly as he was given the Landmark Award.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
He created a movement, shape the culture and made history
doing it. I'm so proud to honor Country Grammar and
the talented guy who made it, my soulmate, my husband, Nelly,
with the iHeartRadio Landmark Award.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
It was very sweet.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
She talked about how back in the day, people would
think rap and they'd say East or West Coast, But
in two thousand a rapper emerged out of Saint Louis
who would change the game forever. Tons of backstage content,
behind the scenes stuff red carpet looks at West Michigan
Star dot Com.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
You know, as a child of the late nineties and
early two thousands, I appreciate some Nelly love him twenty
plus years later.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
All right.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Another big part of our iHeartRadio Music Awards last night
Mariah Carrie, fueling some rumas that she may in fact
be dating Anderson Pack.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
You've probably seen.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
A lot of him. He's done a ton of Bruno
Mars collaborations. Big artist in his own rights. She was
announced last night Brian car taking home the Icon Award,
and guests who walked her up on stage. The two,
according to eyewitnesses, looking very lovey dovey. They both have
(03:24):
not confirmed anything yet, but there's been a ton of
people saying they've seen them out on date nights. They
got very handsy an Aspen just a couple of weeks ago,
so could be some of the new hot couple going on.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Didn't see that coming. Okay, that's with you.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
I'd love to see them work together, that's for sure. Finally,
this is interesting. Conan O'Brien, the comedian, writer and producer
who hosted this year's OSCAR Awards just a couple of
weeks ago, has agreed to return and host them next year.
Apparently got some serious rave reviews.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Wicked is nominated tonight and ten categories. Yeah, it's the
perfect movie for anyone who's ever finished watching The Wizard
of Oz and thought, sure, but where did all the
minor characters go to college?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (04:11):
He not only got great reviews, but attracted a five
year high in both total viewers and was also ranked
number one primetime entertainment telecast. So that's a pretty big deal.
He's already on board. So the Academy of Motion Pictures,
Arts and Sciences is set for next year.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
I'm sure they just got to be thrilled because they
had such a hard time finding a host for a minute.
There so one that you feel as successful, like, don't
break this please, all.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Right, all of your celebscoop at West Michigan Star dot com.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
Sometimes because I get a good feeling.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, well, let's fup a little positivity into your morning.
We do each day. It's feeling good on starting on
Fine four to seven Magotsmithy hanging out and I make
congratulations in order for the third year in a row,
the coveted Miss Basketball title is going to be here
in West Michigan is yesterday at the headquarters for the
Detroit Free Price over on the East Side. Rockford's Anna
(05:04):
White pitch name Miss Basketball for the twenty four twenty
twenty five season. Not a surpride surprise, this award topping
off just an epic high school career for the senior
who's still hoping to push the Rams to another state
championship this weekend. But she earned four hundred and forty
four first place votes, more than double anybody else who
(05:24):
was up for the award. This year, she's led the
Rams to the twenty one to one regular season record
that they have top ranked team in Division One, averaging
over twenty two points a game and three point four rebounds.
She is schmidty, hotly experienced, losing seven games ever in
her entire Rockford Ram career unbelievable. Over four years, she's
(05:48):
helped them win four conference championships, four district titles, four
regional titles, and one state championship. She holds just about
every single school record, including points, assists, steals, free throws,
and more. And earlier this year, Rams head coach Brad
Wilson catch it up with Fox seventeen about his star
player and just how versatile she is, and she meanwhile
(06:09):
talked about how much she just loves her team an.
Speaker 8 (06:12):
A Wifeitch is as tough as they come, you know.
And she can attack off the dribble so you can
finish at the basket, very unselfish. She can make the
extra pass, knock down the three, and this year she
really got tough on the defensive side. That's an area
that she really evolved in. So yeah, I couldn't have
won it without her. She's a special, special player.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
For me, it's not just about points.
Speaker 8 (06:32):
I feel like it's playing as a team and I
really think that this team.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Is really something special and I'm super proud of them.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Everyone I've done yet either. On Tuesday tonight, they are
going to face out the Okay red arrival Grand Haven
in state quarterfinal game. If Rockford wins, that means they'll
be headed to their fourth straight trip to the Breslyns
Center for the state semi fibles coming up. She's also
committed to go to Butler playing some D one.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Ball, So we've got to hit the family component of this, Okay.
Her older sister is also on a state championship team
with her. Her mom was a is an assistant coach
after playing at Michigan Tech, which is where her older
sister now plays and is headed to Butler. Her little
sister is a freshman on the varsity rock for A team,
so they had the chance of going. And her dad
was a walk on at Michigan Tuck for football, so
(07:17):
his family is absolutely phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Slightly uh slightly basketball.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
I think that's the feeling good part of it. All right,
Let's get to this incredible story going viral. Back in February,
Sharon Lewis was watching her three year old great grandson, Bridger,
when she tripped heading out to the car, hit her
head on a concrete step and split her forehead open.
Now this is wildest. There's actually security footage from their home.
(07:44):
You can hear Lewis starting to yell for neighbors. However,
no one heard her. Cries, no worries. Three year old
Bridger knew exactly what to do. He got into great
Grandma's car, got her phone, dialed nine one one. The
video shows where you can hear Bridger psyching himself up.
(08:10):
You hear him, don't be afraid, don't be afraid, don't
be afraid. He contacted nine to one one. Paramedics showed up. Thankfully.
Great Grandma was diagnosed with a concussion and got twenty
two staples in her head, but is alive and doing fine.
She calls Bridger quite the blessing. The video is incredible
(08:31):
that he knew exactly what to do. West Michigan Star
dot Com.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Feeling good coming at you a couple of times today.
I always want to bring something amazing right to you
each and every morning. We'll do it again today coming
up at nine Twala here on Star.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
Movies, Music and all the gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
It's the celebritiescoop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Well, the videos are pretty concerning Tracy Morgan, the actor,
comedian and snl alum, causing a lengthy delay at last
night's New York Mixed game after projectile vomiting all over
the floor. So the best way I can put it,
the troubling scene unfolded during the first half of New
York's game with Miami. This was at Madison Square Garden.
(09:12):
The comedian suddenly got extremely ill in his court side chair.
In fact, images have surface taken from fans at the
show where you can see Morgan just unleashing near his feet.
So much came out so violently it actually splashed into
MSG's playing area, which is why there was several minutes
of game haltage, Medics racing to tend to the fifty
(09:35):
six year old. Eventually, you can see him being wheeled
out in a wheelchair from the arena, seeming very distressed.
He's holding a towel to his space. Some spectators said
they actually could see blood coming from his nose as
he exited. There's no word yet on what caused this
medical episode. It's definitely still a story that's developing. Fans
(09:55):
just really hoping that this isn't any more further health complications.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Flom the kidney transplant that he had. It was just
really crazy.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yeah, that's super scary sounding. It's one of those cases
where you're like, you hope something just went down the
wrong hole, like right, something that was closed.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
I mean, we all know that's going around my little
influenza A because anything worse, I mean, poor guy.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's just awful.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Our iHeartRadio Music Awards went down last night with some
big winners, including Billie Eilish. A lot of people were
surprised about this, taking home Album of the Year for
hit Me Hard and Soft. I have to tell you,
I thought this was a stunning, stunning live performance of Wildflowers.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
What different Houpy We saw.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Songs of Year go to Beautiful Things by Benson Boom.
Pop Song of the Year went to Sabrina Carpenter for Espresso.
She also picked up Pop Artist of the Year, while
Artist of the Year overall into the team Swift Teddy
Swim's the best New Artist Country artist Jelly Roll.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
It was a pretty packed night.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Every time I hear her do a live performance, I'm
always blown away because when I hear her songs, I'm like, oh,
she sort of like whisper sings. And then when you
see her do it live, you recognize how difficult.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
That has to p He's one of the best voices
in the Amazan period. Finally, I was just so excited
to see this because it is totally worth the road trip.
Guess who is officially then confirmed for this year's Motor
City Comic Con Detroit. Making the announcement yesterday, Yes, Bill
(11:43):
Nye is coming to Motor City Comic Con. Fans have
the chance to meet him May eighteen. Bring your dough,
photo ops and autographs. That's starting at a hundred bucks.
He's one of several huge names scheduled for Detroit this year.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
That includes You're a Merunner for playing Hawkeye in the
Marvel franchise.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
We're going to see Rain Wilson and Angela Kinzie from
the Office, Laura Prebond from that seventies show, even Sean
Aston from Lord of the Rings, and Steve Burns from
Blues Clues.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
It is a packed show this year.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
MotorCity Comic Con is May sixteenth to the eighteenth.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
You and I were talking about this a little bit yesterday.
Those guys have to be getting paid really well. Those
are absolutely that are coming over there.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Absolutely, But like Bill my might be mofunning about that
entilr list all of your celeb scoop at West Michigan.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Start dot com.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Good morning to you. It's Mack and Schminny in the morning.
And you said you had one of those I was
today years old moments. And I love that schimitty because
more often than that when somebody tells me these things,
I'm today years old. When I learned that, I.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Mean, it's just like it's those mind blowing things where
you go really. So I met up with a few
friends yesterday afternoon for a little Saint Patrick's Day meet
up and one of our friends was super excited because
she goes all out every year on Saint Patrick's face.
So she had just wrapped up this really great brunch
for a bunch of people, and she was just I mean, legit,
She's talking the corn, beef and cabbage, all the fixens.
(13:09):
And you start talking about toast somehow, and my buddy
Ryan goes, oh, I love toast. I'm a four. We'll
look at him like you're a you're a four. He's like,
that's where I set the toaster at. So that's how
dark I like to get my toast. And then another
one of our friends goes, so, you so you put
(13:30):
your toast in for four minutes and he's like, oh no,
and his mind melted because he's like, the knob on
the toaster is how many minutes the toast stays down for?
And I was like, do be fair, my man, to
be fair. I didn't realize that until I was like thirty.
(13:50):
I always thought like.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I'm gonna say, I'm gonna toast it between.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Like a three and a half and a five, having
no clue that it was how many minutes the toast
would stay down.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
I'm trying to literally I every toaster I've ever owned
right now, Schmidty, because ay, I'm today years old and
I'm learning this.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Yeah, I told you a lot of people don't know that.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
I don't know because in my head, I'm like, are
they all a five? I'm like trying to think in
my head, aren't some of them just like like a
line of darkness and you're just sort of adjusting it
to it. And now that I'm thinking about it, I'm like,
I think most of them are fives.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
I think they have numbers because that's the number of
minutes your toast stays down.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
I hate these things. They just make you fuine I know.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
So we're sitting there and like, are our amazing bartender
who we know very well. It's just like, are you
guys for real? I was like, there's no way you
knew that. He's like everybody knows that. To go, well,
there's six of us sitting here and we're all absolutely stunned.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
So we started sharing all those things.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
You felt really embarrassed not knowing, and I said, you guys,
I'll be totally honest. Until I was like thirty two
years old, I did not realize PIN was personal identification number.
I thought it was PIN number because you were pinned
to that bank account. So like when you'd go to
an ATM and put in your PIN, you were just
it's like, well, fingers crossed, I have enough because this
is what I'm pinned to for my entire life.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Never had any idea that was an acronym.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I always think it's interesting when they're like food and
vegetable oriented, because you feel like from the time you're
a pretty young person that you have a good idea
of your fruits and veggies. It seems to be whatever
adult is hammering home your whole life and then you
find out things that lufahs, those things you wash your
body with in the shower, that's a fruit. That is
a fruit. A real natural loofa comes from something that
(15:29):
looks like a cross between a cucumber and an eggplant,
and you cut it open, and that's a real loofa.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
I guess I figured like they lived in the coral
reefs and stuff. You always feel like you see the
little looful.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Looking sponges should come from things in right eat that
I don't know that you're seeing. It's a fruit and
it's healthy for you.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
It's astonishing if you want to call in and share
the embarrassing thing you learned and you went I should
probably have known that before I was a full grown adult.
You can hit four five eight, one oh five seven.
But I'm telling you the toast thing. You bring that
up at the water cool or work today, I bet
you're gonna get at least fifty percent of people whose
jaws drop because they had no idea.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Act like I'm not running home today to look at
my toes. I no, I swear to God, I'm going
home Michael's.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
We just bought a new toaster. Mine's pretty legit. I
was like, dang, you're talking like ten minutes for a
pretty pretty burnt piece of toes.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Schmitty, So salty hop it up on the soapbox this morning,
Salty Schmitty here on starleto five points. Yeah, and it's
Mack and Schmidty. What's going on?
Speaker 4 (16:27):
Well, I'll tell you that I think a lot of
parents will agree with this. We do a lot. We
do a lot to make sure our kids have a
wonderful life and everything they need, but not everything has
to be some Pinterest holiday. I felt so bad yesterday
with the amount of videos I saw of people making
(16:50):
Leprechaun traps? When did that start? That was nothing when
I was a kid, Let's send it now. That was
not like we've already got to do the Halloween costumes.
We have to make room for the extra member of
our household with Elf on the shelf. Yep, I'm sure
there's something I'm not doing for New Year's Eve. I
(17:10):
bet there's some kind of.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Glow ball balloon drop that I didn't But.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
I'm like Leprecaun traps, y'all, I get it. Just like,
let him come in. I'll tell you. I'll tell you
what I told my kids. I said, listen, the duck
is too high. Mister lepre CON's not going to make
it in. We can't do this. I mean the amount
of beautiful creativity from some parents that help their kids
make these Leprechaun traps.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
I'm over here, you guys.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
I'm taking a nap. I'm taking a nap. I'm so sorry.
I don't think we need to do this for every
single thing anymore.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
All Right, parents, let's remember it. This isn't necessarily about them.
It's about us having a green beer in the middle
of a work day, isn't it. Isn't that the true
meaning of Saint Patrick's day.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
I want to pick up a box and find something
in There.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Be so stalky.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
Movies, music and all gossip in one place.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
It's the celebrities goop on Star one oh five point seven.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Well a huge night with our iHeartRadio Music Awards last night,
hosted by LL Cool Jay. Big winners including Billie Eilish
taking home Album of the Year Benson Boone with Song
of the Year in Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso Pop Song of
the Year. We did see Taylor Swift take a few
awards home from artists of the Year to best Tour
(18:28):
and jelly roll winning some big country awards, and I
have to take a minute. I loved what Lady Gaga
had to say. Being given the Innovator Award last night.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Winning an award honoring my entire career at thirty eight
years old is a hard thing to get my head around.
On the one hand, I feel like I've been doing
this forever, and on the other hand, I know I'm
just getting started. So even though the world might consider
(18:59):
a woman in her late thirties old for a pop star,
which is insane, I promised that I'm just getting warmed up.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Now getting back to Taylor Swift, let's talk about what
eagle eyed swifties.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Notice.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
So Taylor was accepting the Speed giving her acceptance speech
for the Tour of This Century award not surprising.
Speaker 9 (19:24):
It really was the most gratifying thing I've ever done.
I think about that tour constantly. I'm so proud of it,
and the only reason I was able to take on
those challenges that's all because the fans.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
She's talking, of course about the Eras tour, But if
you look real close, she was wearing a snake choker
necklace so to most of the swifties on the Internet.
As of this morning, here is your first Easter egg.
That Reputation Taylor's version is on its way and on
its way very very soon.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
So our newsgirl Emma talked about REPTV, and I gotta
tell you, Schmidy, it took me a solid couple conversations
to actually have any clue which he was talking about.
The rep TV was Reputation Taylor's version. Yeah, I was
so confused.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
You even had flave of flave take to X last night.
Go that necklace? Though, if you know, you know so
a lot of people think that this.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Is the very first kind of confirmation from Taylor that
since she's had so much time off from the concert
or from the tour, and she's been off the road,
that she is just putting the chef's hiss finishing touches
on that album. Kim Kardashian is mulling over a pretty
big decision whether to head back to court and ask
a judge to completely strip Kanye West of all joint
(20:40):
legal custody of their four kids, because, according to sources,
he has flagrantly ignored their custody agreement. I kind of
said this when I had the story about this song
that was released, that it was probably going.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
To cause some problems.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Yeah, the legal war was set off after a mediation
on Friday between the two that Kanye would not release
a previously recorded song in which their daughter North raps
Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
It also featured Ditty on it.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Well, as you know, Kanye still released it, and Kim
is exceptionally upset about this.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
She said.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Part of the biggest reason the divorce settlement has remained
amicable is because both parties have equal say in making
decisions for their kids. She knows that Kanye specifically went
behind her back to do this, and so now she
is weighing since Kanye rarely sees his kids, physical custody
not the issue, and Kim's always said she wants the
(21:37):
kids to have a relationship with their dad, but she
is wondering now if it's even appropriate for that to happen,
and this might mean he does not have any say
in any part of their life going forward.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
I mean, Kanye's family lawyer has to have all of
his hair pulled completely out of his head at this
point in time, right because this guy cannot help, but
be his own worst time.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
And I will say I do think Kim tries really
hard to keep this a co parenting situation, but what
do you do with some of this behavior? Finally, I
told you, oh, my fellow millennial ladies, it is a sad,
sad day.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Forever twenty one is officially closing. The retailers.
Speaker 4 (22:15):
US operating company filed for bankruptcy for a second time
on Sunday, citing fierce competition from foreign fast fashion retailers.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
They talked she In and Timu, marking the end of
an era.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
They said, this one is probably not going to be recoverable.
They said, stores in the US will remain open and
continue serving customers for now, but it's implementing an orderly
wind down of its business, adding it would conduct liquidation
sales and seek maybe a buyer for some of his assets.
But Forever twenty one is gone.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
I mean, just like all of our youth, nothing is forever.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Her twenty one outfitted me for my entire college career.
All right, all of your celeb scoop at West Michigan Star.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Dot com shoving a five points see evidence, Mack and
Schmidey looking to battle right now and send you over
to watch our grand Rafts Griffins. Get the whole family
out for some fun.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
This is a big one too.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
The Chicago Wolves are in town April second. We've got
the family's tickets with today's number one answer. One hundred
women surveyed, Name a job where you have to worry
about being bitten?
Speaker 1 (23:22):
What about like a preschool teacher, daycare?
Speaker 2 (23:24):
I was just going to say parenting. I was just
full stop.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Parent You're one percent, got a good bit, all right?
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Six one six, four five eight, one oh five seven.
One hundred women surveyed, Name a job where you have
to worry about being bitten?
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Color seven.
Speaker 4 (23:39):

to our grand Rapids Griffins with star win Oh.
Speaker 1 (23:44):

Let's get you to the Griffins. You gotta tell me.

or you gotta worry about getting bit, what do you think,
the top answer.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Was a groomer.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Ooh, a groomer, Yeah, like I can I can totally
see that being the case there. And actually I was
thinking people were gonna say a male carrier, you know
what I mean, a male person, oh, you know, getting
off or then I was thinking maybe like a dentist.
You know, if you're a dentist, you're always to digits
and people's mouths. I'd be very worried about getting bits sometime.
(24:23):
But for whatever reason, I am going to give you.
I'm gonna give you the groomer because it's going to
go with this one pretty well, because I'm pretty sure
it falls under their duties. Zookeeper veterinarian was the top answer,
and I'm gonna know what, throw that in there for
you today. I'm giving you this one. Yeah, I mean,
you know, the zookeeper's gonna take care of all that
(24:45):
unkempt hair too, I'm sure. So let's go ahead and
give this one to you. You're going to our grand
rapids Griffins. Congratulations, awesome, thank you, Good morning too. It's
back in Schmidty, and you know, springtime brings a lot
of things that need to get done. And there's really
no part of the year where I don't have something
looming over my head that I know should be getting
(25:06):
done that I just don't want to do.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
With SCHMITDDI, springs especially bad though, because a lot of
us in fall kind of left things and then the
snowfell and you were like, real, ot a slight out
of mind.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
You're not wrong. I asked this on Facebook at West
Michigan Star, and I got all the things that you
would imagine. Cleaning the garages out, yes, for sure. Uh
cat litter box, That's something I know some cat owners
put off as long as they possibly can, at least
until it just smells too bad. Doing the taxes is
a bring big spring lung schmitty. But for me, I
(25:34):
have got this is my our sixth year, our sixth
springtime in our home, and when we moved in, I
loved the landscaping that was down on the side of
the house. Now, five plus years later after I've seen
it a winter winter winter, I've got rotting railroad ties
(25:55):
that lead down these steps down to my house or
like down to the lower part of my PATIOSHMITTI.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Get rid of them.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
I have no idea what to do with them though,
so like if I pull them out, I don't want
to replace them. These things weigh like one hundred and
fifty pounds.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
You have to I do one to recycle them.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I we had them at our old house and they
were the worst things ever. And I called around ever
that thought I could take them, and I'm pretty sure
everybody I got was, yeah, we'll take them for this
amount of money that you pay.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Dude. We're in this spot right there, the worst where
there's no more leaves, right, we get all that stuff
like out of the way. So you just see them,
and you can see the ends where they're like starting
to farting. I power washed them, and it's so funny
because they look like farmers tands. You can see exactly
where I power washed and then where it was covered
up by like trees and dirty.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
They were like an affordable way to landscape. I'm not
knocking it, it's just they are that in lava rocks.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
And see, you just did what my wife does. We
go out there, we'll stare at these projects like they're
somehow going to magically happen right in front of our eyes.
Sometime and she'll be like, yeah, we got to call
somebody about those railroad ties. And in my head, I'm like.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
I'm not calling anybody.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
That's gonna be so much money. Here's something that I
don't even want to do.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Just put a bunch of day lilies down and nobody's
gonna see anything because those are an evasive species now
and as long as you don't cut them back, all
you're going to see our orange flowers that have overtaken
your life.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Sometime.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Does that get a good feelie?
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Startlewinhell fan points you haven't got a beautiful spring day
on deck? Let's make it even brighter right now? Feeling
good on starwan o fan points seven, what's that?
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Well, let's hend to the east side.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Because at Victory Jim, it's more than a workout in
yan Dot. The gym is not only giving people a
place to get fit and work on their health, it's
also giving veterans and first responders a place to conquer
their PTSD and it's totally freak.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Victory Jim is.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
A nonprofit that began back in twenty fifteen. Officer Aaron
Dunn is an Army veteran and former law enforcement officer,
saying it is just a great place you can talk
to your fellow comrades, some people you may know in
the community, some you don't. You get better every single
day and then you work to try and figure out
how you can serve to give that back to others.
(28:10):
Victory Jim is staffed entirely by volunteers. The nonprofits board
president Gary Clinton, who happens to be a veteran himself, says,
the gym's mission is very very simple to conquer PTSD
through physical fitness, pure support and camaraderie.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
And honestly it is working.
Speaker 10 (28:28):
Everyone has issues with work and life. We just want
to open our arms up to the that'ts and first
responders that feel like I need I need a home,
I need somewhere that I can go and be around
people that can truly understand what we're going through on
a day to day.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Basis absolutely incredible work. Sitting down with ABC seven if
you want to learn more Victory Jim BHC dot org.
This is just boots on the ground stuff serving our
most deserving citizens.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
What a really cool mission. I like that, all right,
SCHMINDI of course, yesterday all the Saint Patty's Day festivities
going on all over the place. However, it was one little,
tiny West Michigan community with a big tradition over in Conkland,
just northwest of Grand Rapids. There it was the annual
Saint Patrick's Day Parade, dubbed is the world's Shortest Saint
Patrick's Day Parade only goes about a quarter of a mile,
(29:22):
but they pack it with dancers, fiddle players, dogs and
others dotting their green and making their way down Conkland's
main Street, starting at the intersection of Main Street and
then going to Miller. It ends in Cockland's Bar and
the whole thing well, it takes about five minutes, that's
how long the parade is. Starts at ten fifty five.
They're inside a Cockland bar by eleven having a pint
(29:43):
in the world's shortest pat Saint Patrick's Day parade wraps up.
But this has now been a tradition for more than
thirty five years, but it was actually just the first
year last year. Kathy van Dolisar actually took over ownership
of the bar the day before Saint Patrick's Day last year,
so she got a very quick introduction to this tradition,
(30:04):
but one that now she is just so happy to
be a part of. As she talked about with wood TBA.
Speaker 7 (30:09):
The parade started with a group of people who were
going to do a parade all the way around a
lot and they got to the bar and decided they
were going to come in for a drink before they
finished it and never left. So that tradition is just
continued and one we will not get rid of.
Speaker 9 (30:27):
You could never be here before.
Speaker 7 (30:29):
And come in and you sit down at the bar
and everybody talks to you like you're a local. So
it's just a wonderful place to be.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
A wonderful place to be again, the Conkland Bar. I
thought this was crazy. It's a community at less than
you know, less than three thousand people, so this is
a big deal. So much in fact that just Saint
Patrick's Day is a quarter of the bar's revenue for
the entire year.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Yeah, they're an incredible community.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
I mean, unbelievable, but super cool. A tradition we hope
to see continue. Feeling good coming at you a couple
times a day, always want to share cool things happen
out there. We'll do it again for you tomorrow six
forty five and nine twenty right here on Star Mack
and Schmidty in the morning weekday, starting at six am
on Star one oh five point seven
