(00:00):
To the show. My friend's niceto have you here. Steve Laffey is
in Paris, somebody SIMMI mess islaky. I also have never been to
Paris, never wanted to go untilI heard Steve Laffy talk about it.
It sounded very pleasant, very verypleasant. I guess friendly. I didn't.
I've never heard that about the Frenchfolks, but he says the average
(00:22):
is very friendly to Americans there. So I do a little travel segment there.
We had not anticipated Steve Laffey outand about in the gay Paris where
he's at and he's trying to gethome tomorrow. But I didn't know that
either. They just randomly strike sometimes. All right, let's bring it back
here to the not just the UnitedStates, but right here to Colorado.
Every day at this time for thenext couple of days at least, the
(00:46):
state legislature is in session, andwe always say you're not safe when the
state legislature is in session. RepresentativeRon Weinberg from the Loveland Areas on the
hot line, I had an interestingexperience to recount regarding the topic of immigration.
Representative, how are you, sir, Good morning, Jimmy. It's
as always a pleasure to be withyou. Let's dive in here. You.
(01:10):
I was just kind of you putout a tweet I believe, and
I'll let you kind of take itfrom there. You felt like you weren't
being heard there the House of Representatives. They didn't want to hear the tale
of Representative Weinberg. No, it'sfunny when you end up checking off a
few of the boxes that they arenot normal to the Republican Party, you
(01:33):
know, being a Jew, beingan immigrant, these are things that they
don't think we are relevant towards. And when they finally see somebody who has
an experience, it was quite shockinghow quickly they wanted to shut it down.
So tell us what happened? You'reyou're there, and I think the
quote that I have from you asquote as you addressed the chamber. Am
(01:53):
I not allowed to speak on myown personal experiences on this bill that is
about immigration? What was the billand what were you trying to say?
So, it's a grand program thatwill provide two point five million dollars of
tax payer money to go to illegalimmigrants, nonprofit organizations that would help them
(02:15):
with getting their paperwork, hiring lawyers, so on, and so forth to
get them on the pod or youknow, to become legal citizens of the
country. And we got a memoearly that morning that said we are not
allowed to use certain words such asalien, illegal, illegal, alien,
(02:35):
undocumented, alien, invaders, offfresh off the boat, interloper, and
squatter. So once I saw that, I kind of got lyricated, first
off on the freedom of speech, one of the greatest things that are forced
country, the best ever. Andso I took it to the wealth and
(02:59):
I a piece of paper down intothe well with me, and I was
planning on speaking on my own experienceas being in a legal immigrant through the
country, and I started using theterms in the world's not gonna lie a
little bit on purpose to kind ofsee what was what would happen, And
sure enough they coupled me down afew times, and eventually they kind of
(03:23):
gave up all bit. I wasjust relentless, and it was just kind
of an embarrassment at that point. It was a suppression of speech, and
I will not tolerate a suppression ofspeech in any way anyway. Shape up.
So basically, they say, hey, we're gonna have this bill.
We're going to give money around tothe nonprofits that we choose to fight the
(03:44):
causes that we fight, which Ishare a nonprofit, and I'm like,
oh, so if I fight yourcause, you're gonna give me tax for
your funds. But I don't fightyour cause. I guess I have to
go raise it the damn good oldfashioned way. But they said, if
you want to speak about this bill, you have to use certain words.
You can't use other words because we'regoing to not just define which nonprofits get
the money, we're going to definehow you get to talk about the whole
(04:05):
topic in general. And it's notlike they're telling you not to use vulgarities,
but they've defined a kind of anew vocabulary for you that is bizarre,
that kind of restriction that you canspeak, but you can only speak
the language we tell you to speak. And they literally gave us a list
of words, Jimmy, of whatwe could say, one of them being
(04:27):
new arrivals. Additionally, to makethings worse. What people don't know either,
is they actually restricted the time onit on the bill because they knew
it was going to be controversial, and they knew that we were going to
speak to it, and they literallykept the debate on the bill on second
readings to one hour. That's rulefourteen. It's been used multiple times again
this session unapologetically Rule sixteen on third, Rule fourteen on seconds, which literally
(04:53):
just shuts us up and gives usnothing. We cannot debate, we cannot
get the information out on these badbills. Just shut down and take it.
Yeah, you, it's just bizarrethat that is what our one party
rule in the state of Colorado hasgiven us. Said again, if you're
(05:15):
in the right, then let's havea vigorous discussion in the debate and then
you cast your vote. But itseems as if they're wanting to avoid the
discussion altogether. It's just kind ofsit down, Representative Weinberg, you do
as we say, not as youwant to do. But if they're on
the side of the on the sideof the right, why do you think
they're hiding behind all these guidelines andrules and squelching public discussion. I thought
(05:38):
they were correct, and I thoughtthey could win in the battle of the
arena of ideas. Yeah, youanswer your question literally is what you just
said, because they're not right. That's exactly the problem. And it's very
frustrating because clearly they know it.They don't want to hear it. They
don't want the public to get windof it. They don't want the news
(05:59):
media to get wind of it.For the minute that they do, they
know that there's an election this Novemberand they're going to be held accountable for
this nonsense. It reminds me ofkids in a classroom where hey, the
teachers out of the classroom while she'sgone, while he's gone, let's do
this, or hey, let's dothis, but my parents will be home
here in just a bit. Wegot to get it done before my parents
get home. It sounds kind oflike it sounds kind of like the philosophy
(06:24):
here at the state House. AmI am I using the wrong analogy?
Their substitute teacher. Do this beforethe parents get home, Do this before
the media shows up, Do thisbefore representative Wineburst constituents find out. Is
it the same kind of mentality happeningthere? Absolutely, it's and that's what
it is. It's a big adulthigh school that is completely out of control.
(06:48):
When you have so much control intoone side, they literally can do
whatever they want. It's the onlything we have at that point is speech,
and you suppress that the building isjust essentially useless. Yeah, so
it's fourteen days left, today's fourteentwo weeks left of this. We still
(07:12):
have I think one hundred and fiftybills to go through. It'll be a
record number of bills this church.I mean, rough these six hundred plus
bills going through the pipes. Yeah, this is a joke. It's become
a big joke, represented Weinberg. Before I let you go, I want
to ask you. This wasn't onmy list, but I want to ask
(07:34):
you. As we hear about ColumbiaUniversity, New York University, Columbia has
told all the Jewish kids to gohome, finish your semester watching online because
basically you're not safe on the campus. Of course, you have Alexandria Cosu
Cortesse. Oh it's all peaceful. But yet you're sending all the Jewish kids
home and saying hide out at yourhouse, don't come on campus. You're
(07:58):
a man of Jewish faith. Whatare you thinking when you watch? And
if you've had time to pay attentionto what's happening at Columbia real quick,
I have, And you know thisis the time that the Jewish community needs
to band together and get their acttogether. We've we've done the hiding thing
before, Jimman, it didn't workout too well. And Jewish, my
Jewish Fellowcolicus needs to understand that it'stime to really stand where we are without
(08:28):
convictions and not apologize we're not involvedin Israel. I'm not sitting in Israel
right now. I'm sitting in Americaand we need to stand up for ourselves
normal hiding. Yeah, Representative Weinberg, keep fighting the good fight and keep
using whatever words you want to usetheir the state legislature, and don't let
the censorship holds you down. Myfriend, I appreciate you hopping on the
(08:50):
program. Representative Weinberg on the program. I'm guessing, Representative, that bill
passed. Whether or not you gotto speak, they didn't really care.
They just it just went through themotions. Did it passed? It passed
through, and it'll be on thirds. While waiting at passed through seconds,
it'll be on thirds. And Iam assuming at this point in time it's
going to get some big attention.Representative Weineberg talking about a bill that they're
(09:15):
going to spend millions of your dollarsgiving away to nonprofits that will take care
and help illegal aliens with your legalexpenses. Yeah, your tax dollars at
work, my friend. It's allhappening in the state legislature. Thanks for
Representative Weinberg for talking everybody. Standby a news talk six hundred k col
