(00:00):
I am Jimmy Lakey, Heidi honeighbor. How are you? Everybody's good,
and I hope you're feeling good aboutyourself. The Denver Broncos feeling good
about themselves. Bow Knicks taken inthe first round. Maybe well, see,
he's one of my buddies. Said, when you have eight can't miss
quarterbacks about six to seven, I'mgonna be missus. And so I we'll
(00:22):
see. If bo Nix is oneof those, and he's from the University
of Oregon, he'll be playing forthe Denver Broncos. And let's see.
Oh, the Denver Nuggets had abig comeback last night. I only watched
a part of the first half andthen I had to get ready for the
radio show, and I yeah,I was more interested in the NFL Draft
than the Denver Nuggets, especially theway that first half looked. And then
(00:44):
all of a sudden, I wakeup this morning find out that the Denver
Nuggets had a big comeback and thereare three up on the LA Lakers.
And you know, don't you justfeel awful for Lebron James. Oh my
god, I'm lying. That's alltongue in cheek. You just feel awful
for Laflop. I mean love Lebronand what the Lakers did last night.
So go Nuggets, Avalanche play tonight. I believe I have my sporting schedule
(01:07):
correct. It'll be good to haveyou here in the radio show, final
hour of today's broadcast. It's JimmyLakey on the radio. Got to be
talking to Duke Romley here in justa couple of seconds, minutes away,
seconds away from a buddy duke withsober af entertainment. But I also want
to remind you you can jump inhere eight six six triple eight fifty four
forty nine eight six six triple eightfifty four to forty nine if you want
(01:30):
to jump in. I'll read someof the comments coming in on the Facebook
page Facebook dot com slash Jimmy Lakeyfan page. Also I'll check on the
tweeter. I would say I checkon the X. I feel like a
porn star when I say I'm postingon X, and so I try not
to. I don't want you tostumble in your walk with the Lord.
So I don't often mention the Xbecause it sounds so dirty. But anyway,
the tweeter, I've tried to growmy tweeter and if you want to
(01:53):
find me, it's just my name, Jimmy Lakey j I M M y
l A K E y. Allright, I promise that toll you this
and I'll get to Marine one andhow Joe Biden's getting on. I get
to all that in the next segmentafter Duke Rumley. But I got to
tell you this. Delilah made mesnort coffee really almost to my nose.
We had this ongoing joke. Ifyou're only thinking about yourself around here,
(02:15):
that's what I tell the hipster youthto work at the Leaky Entertainment I was
you only thinking about yourself. Stopthinking about yourself, Think about others.
So she sent me a photo,a little meme of a giraffe sitting in
a booth like a you know, coffee shop, old diner, kind of
think. A giraffe is sitting there, big long neck in the air.
The giraffe is holding a cup ofcoffee, and the caption of the meme
(02:36):
said this, and I don't knowwhy this struck my funny bone this morning.
It tickled me. But here wego, a giraffe's coffee. This's
is the thought to think of giraftsitting or drinking coffee. A Giraft's coffee
would be cold by the time hereached the bottom of his throat. Picture
of that long neck. Think thatthrough giraffe's about to sip coffee. The
(02:57):
giraffes coffee would be cold by thetime it reaches the bottom of his throat.
And then it says, you everthink of that? And it says,
no, you only think about yourself. I don't want that. Struck
me. Funny, It's an insidejoke around the office the Lake Entertainment Towers.
But no, you only think aboutyourself. Coffee going to be cold
by the time it reaches a giraft'sthroat. But you never thought of that.
(03:17):
Ditch it because you only think aboutyourself, Ladies and gentlemen. Duke
Rumley never just thinks about himself. He always thinks of others. That's see
the segue. I'm a trained professionalgetting Duke Rumley, a founder of sober
af Entertainment on the hotlines. Duke, Welcome to the show, sir,
if I get the right button, pleasure to have you back on the program.
(03:40):
Jimmy, thank you for having meand that amazing introduction I'm going to
have to send that to my sisters. They don't think I'm mother centered.
Well, you know, I justwanted you, wanted everybody to know exactly
what you told me to say aboutyou. So you're welcome. Always always
thinking about others. Hey, Duke, We've got a real you know,
(04:01):
we talk of sports. I've talkedwith sports a little bit. We talk
politics on this show. But there'sa rare crisis in America and we hear
this F word come up every oncein a while. It is called fentanyl,
and it has in some categories, some age ranges, it has become
the number one cause of death inAmerica. I mean we I don't want
everybody, anybody to lose attention inelection years or sporting events, it doesn't
(04:24):
matter, you've got to pay attention. We have a fentanyl problem. Talk
about the fentanyl problem. That's well, not just we have that. It's
growing across America and it's not goingaway, Jimmy, So I think there's
definitely some burnout on talking about itto some degree or for whatever reason.
You know, we come out everyyear and we have a record number of
(04:46):
accidental drug overdoses and twenty twenty threeis another record year of over one hundred
and eleven thousand people have died inthe United States from accidental druggle overdose,
of which the majority of that hasbeen the fetanyl, which is a very
cheap synthetic drug, which means it'seasy to get the ingredients and it's easy
(05:13):
to mix. And because it's socheap, it's going to continue. And
you know, it's crazy how thenumbers have gone from you know, one
or two thousand people dying of drugoverdose in the last you know that we're
talking in the two thousands. Sonow we're losing one hundred and eleven thousand
people, and it's a lot ofpeople in their twenties, you know,
(05:36):
And it's actually changed the dynamics that, Yeah, if you're under fifty,
you're more likely to die from adrug overdose than from anything else. Wow,
if you're under fifty, you're morelikely to have a drug overdose than
anything else. Now, I'm guessingDuke and Duke Romley with a sober af
entertainment. We'll talk about in oneof the sober events that's coming up with
(05:58):
the Colorado Rockies. In just amoment, Duke, I'm guessing maybe I'm
wrong that, but I'm going tomake an assumption that a lot of these
overdoses people didn't really even know they'retaking the fentanyl. They didn't go down
to the dealer or whatever and say, hey, give me a dose of
fentanyl. Is that the case?I mean, people are maybe buying some
other kind of drug for curing someother kind of drug only to find out
it has been laced with fentanyl.Or are they purposely per is there a
(06:23):
big market to purpose to purchase directfentanyl or is it are we having a
problem with it's mixing in with otherthings and people aren't even aware they're taking
it. Well, there's both, right. There is a community of people
who have drug addiction who are lookingfor fentanyl, and there's also a community
of people who are looking for axanax or some other pill and it has
(06:48):
fentanyl in it, and you know, they're dead within a short period of
time from taking what they think isa different drug and fentanyl goes in and
numbs brain to the point that youstop breathing. So, you know,
it is really really scary for thisgeneration to kind of grow up and not
(07:13):
knowing if one pill can kill you, because that's the case one till if
it's something you don't know what itis, can kill you. Yeah,
the voice of Duke Romley as anorganization called sober af Entertainment. Douke,
you say, these numbers are here, they're going to get worse. They're
going to continue to get worse. We have fentanyl awareness, stay coming up.
You know, we hear the problem. I mean there's a lot of
(07:36):
different people out there with a lotof different solutions. Some of our uh,
some of our fentanyl comes across border, some of it is I don't
know if it's manufactured. Is anybodyreally talking solutions? I mean, we
it's obvious that the problem is rightthere. It's slapping us in the face
that deaths are there. You're morelikely to die of a drug overdose in
any other cause if you're below fiftyyears of age in America right now?
(07:59):
Is anybody told, how can realsolutions in America? Well, there's definitely
solutions that have seemed to have struggled, and you know, we can't really
arrest our way out of this,it appears, and so our solution,
we're a pretty unique nonprofit that weare out there setting up substance free seating
(08:22):
at music festivals, concerts, andsporting events. We've done this for over
six years. We've been in twentytwo different states. We have had over
nineteen thousand people come to our SubstanceFree Seating or substance Free Support tailgate.
So that's really our mission as anonprofit. We're based here in Colorado.
(08:46):
And you know, as a solution, how about we support people who might
want to take a night off.How do we support kids under the age
of twenty one to give them somecommunity And really, you know, if
you're under twenty one and you're suchyou know, open to an easy impression
(09:07):
and all you see is drugs andalcohol at music festivals or sporting events,
you're going to do it and withouthaving some type of healthy relationship with it.
You know, this is what happens. My friend Duke Cromwlelly's on the
hotline and it's a great organization becausebasically, we have this fent andol with
this drug crisis, we have thisaddiction crisis that's going on in America,
(09:33):
especially in those youngsters out there. And while politicians argue Democrat, Republican red
versus blue and say they're going tofix it or we have a solution.
Meanwhile, kids are dying, andso why not give them an environment to
where they don't feel pressured to dothe thing that very likely might kill them.
And that's what Duke's organization does withSober af Entertainment and Duke, you
(09:54):
guys have been to concerts, danceparties, college football games, tail game.
You've got an event coming here fromthe Colorado Rockies. But it is
it's really all about that we stillgot drugs, people still have alcohol.
Maybe we can give them a placeto take that night off or they just
don't feel like they just can escapeall that any access to that stuff.
(10:16):
It's just a sober place and asafe place. Right. We just came
back from Texas. We were inTexas for the Eclipse at a music festival.
Forty five thousand kids at this musicfestival, and we gave out hundreds
of boxes of Narcan. We hosted, you know, a check in meeting
every day, we hosted yoga,we hosted a meditation meeting every day.
(10:39):
Festival was great. They gave usa really nice big vendor tent. So
that's kind of what it looks likeand what we've done but correct. May
seventh is Fentanyl Awareness Day. It'sa national day and we have partnered with
the Rockies. We'll be doing aover support education. Really it's just a
(11:01):
fetanl awareness events, educational events atX two. So speaking of x X
two is a building in Denver twentyone to thirty a Rappa host tree.
So we have an educational event therewith resources about fentanyl. And then we
have discounted seats through the Rockies fora fentanyl awareness seating area. So this
(11:26):
is not our typical sober section. This is just a community of people coming
together to really support this idea ofhow do we educate our kids, our
friends about fentanyl and what can wedo to really, you know, stop
this overdose epidemic of you know, losing kids in their twenties and thirties to
(11:48):
this crazy drug that is so strongthat your brain forgets to breathe. It's
Duke Rumley again. We'll give youthis website you learn more about this upcoming
event on Fentanyl Awareness Day. ButI think the scaryest seeing I mean,
you know, all all lives arevaluable, all lives are just it's a
(12:09):
horrible that anybody dies of overdose. But you know, you have the people
struggling with addiction and their centers andhopefully they can get the help and get
the recovery that they need with adrug addiction. But it is just so
tragic. I won't say more tragic, but it's so tragic that you could
have a high school or we havehigh school college kids. Uh, maybe
even a parent that just wanted towind down found out, hey somebody got
(12:31):
a xanax and that's all they weretrying to do. They weren't looking for
a high. They weren't looking fora lifestyle. They weren't. I mean
they they weren't. They weren't fardown this path of addiction of a lifetime.
They just wanted a chill moment andthat's the last moment. That's what's
said about this fentanyl stuff is thatyou're overdosing just looking for something that maybe
(12:52):
maybe not a real big, bigheavy addict is looking for, and that
kills you. That's that's that's horrible. Yeah, just think about you know,
somebody at twenty years old, youknow, it's got another seventy years
to live and they're gone and thatfamily forever not the same. So yeah,
this is really really important issue, and we take a really unique approach
(13:18):
to it, something that's not outthere shockingly and really trying to you know,
not put more people in prison, but you know, how do we
really kind of support this community tokind of get through this the stage in
their life. And as we youknow, we're in a culture right now
(13:39):
that you know, drugs have beennever as acceptable as they are right now,
So how about we make taking thenight off also just as acceptable?
Yeah, and maybe you start torealize, as let's say a twenty year
old and nineteen year old, you'rea kid at college and the only way
you knew to stress was to goto the bench drinking party, the frat
party, or maybe to find thatxanax on campus and just kind of do
(14:03):
whatever you find, you find anothersolution to focus and or to mellow out
or what have you, and maybeyou find a community where you don't have
to rely on drugs or alcohol andanything. You just say, wow,
I don't have to do that tofind it to find some peace and harmony
in my life, and it makesit a little bit give them another alternative,
Duke. If somebody wants to learnmore about the fentonol Awareness event.
(14:26):
You're partnering up with the Colorado Rockies. Not your typical Sober Section event,
but you do have those that youcan stay in touch with folks. People
can get on your email list, they can learn more about sober AF entertainment.
And yes, the AF stands forthat sober, sober and fun,
but it also has another meaning ifyou want to have at a meeting as
(14:46):
well, sober and fun entertainment orsober AF. You figure it out.
How do they find the website?Duke Cromley, So, the website is
super easy. It's sober afe dotcom and you can click on events and
then you'll see the May seventh soberAF presents National Fentanyl Awareness Day. So
(15:07):
click on that. You can purchaseyour twenty four dollars tickets which are discounted.
And that's the first baseline. Sowe got great seats lower area for
just twenty four bucks. So thefamily friendly section will have a family friendly
event for an hour and a halfleading up to that with food and the
different speakers, including the owner ofthe Rockies. So really happy to have
(15:31):
the Rocky support for this event. And somebody may try to ask him if
he's if the Rockies are going towin the World Series this year, but
keep them away from that question. That may not be a good question.
Sober af Entertainment is give the websiteagain. I think I just screwed it
up. Sure sober a f edot com. Sober afe as an eddie
(15:56):
dot com. Soberafe dot com, sober afe And if it's family friendly,
it can be sober and that standsfor AF stands for and fun. If
you're not family friendly, like manyof you, it could be something else
AF. So if people know whatthat means. If you don't know what
that means, then just think itmeans and fun. Duke Romley. Always
a pleasure, folks, and alsodonate your great five oh one c three
(16:18):
charity. They can sponsor you rightyou check for ten, twenty, ten,
twenty thousand, whatever they want todo. If sober lights your fire,
maybe they got some kids that theywant to make sure you get help
and have that alternative. Soberafe dotcom. Duke Romiley, founder of that
great nonprofit. Check out this Rockiesevent. Donate to the cause. I
(16:41):
always try to tell you things thatdonate to live outside of yourself. My
friend, they think about others.I appreciate you. Thanks Duke Romley.
We'll be back here in just amoment. News Talk six hundred K.
Col Laky on the radio. Hey, Hey, good morning,
