for CD three, and any ofyou up in Congressional District three, if
Lauren Bowart or Scott Tipton used tobe your congress person, now you're going
to have a chance for it topossibly be My next guest. Steven Verrella
on the hotline, Republican candidate forCongress in CD three. Steven, Welcome
(00:21):
to the show, sir, howare you hey. I'm doing wonderful.
Thank you for having me, misterLak, I appreciate it. If I'm
not mistaken, that primary ballot isgoing to have in June the twenty fifth,
your name and anyone else's as aRepublican there are you? Are you
the guy? Well, you knowwhat I'm hoping, I'm the guy on
top line. I was able towin my assembly. We have our Freedom
Fighter Movement down that assembly down inPueblo, Colorado, and it was a
(00:45):
wonderful event. We were able totake it and very excited about it.
But there will be a few thatwere able to petition on. So you
got the petitions, you win theassembly, so you'll be top line because
you go through the Assembly only thepetitions they used to go on there.
There's some good people that do petition. I'm not one of those guys in
the petitions all bad. I thinksometimes it's okay thing, but help us
(01:06):
separate. There's going to be someother names on that ballot. Why Steven
Verrella your top line? Yeah, you won, but why should you be
not just top on the ballot, but top in their heart? Well,
you know, I'll tell you.I'm very excited about this. There's a
few issues that are very important tome, especially closing the border, and
those are major issues of our districtand really focusing on education in the future
(01:27):
and protecting our real way of life, and those are things that I've been
fighting for. I'm a veteran, served two tours in Operation Iraq. Freedom
came back, got involved in mycommunity. And I didn't always start off
as a Republican like Donald Trump, like Ronald Reagan, and even like Lauren
Bobert. I once was a Democratand then I saw the light moved over.
My wife and I we've been veryactive in the district. This last
(01:49):
year, we were actually able toflip Pueblo County for the first time,
and I think almost ninety years notone Democrat was elected. We organized a
community and we're just we're on firedown here. We're excited to represent the
district and bring all that great stuffthroughout the other twenty seven counties. I
remember back you mentioned Pueblo in Pebloarea. I remember when I was running
helping Tom Tank creator was some mediaback in one of his governors run.
(02:13):
He got hijacked by some in dirtypolitics and ran some ads about him to
run tru about drug legalization. Butit was dirty, but it was the
establishment of the Republican Party took himout. But we had internal polling that
I saw, and it was alegitimate polling that Tan Credo, who was
very pro secure border that was justkind of acclaim to fame, was actually
beating at the time. John Hickenloopin Pueblo County. There's been something brewing
(02:37):
down in Pueblo way for a longtime that the message of the modern Democrat
Party is not resonating. Can youexplain that what's happening in Pueblo, because
that's a huge population center for thisdistrict that you're running in in CD three,
Well you don't. I'll tell youthe biggest thing is and you're right,
Tom Tank, creator did fantastic inPueblo, and also Donald Trump,
(02:57):
you did fantastic in Pueblo. Intwenty sixteen he was able to win it.
And then in twenty twenty there's somewonky stuff going on, and you
know, he came very close towinning it again. But the thing that's
here is Pueblo is a home ofthe heroes. It's a huge veteran community,
and it's also a big union labortown, labor community. Union members
after the pandemic have woken up andrealized that the only party that wants to
(03:23):
see them working and having generational wealthis the Republican Party, and it has
been a message that has been resonatingwith them. We have a big Still
Workers Union IBW, local pipefitters.Every single one of those groups that we
won't gone and talked to. We'veexplained to them, do they want generational
wealth? Do they believe in lesstaxes, lower government, more individual freedoms?
(03:45):
And I'm telling you almost all ofthem say yes. And then we
tell them, why do you keepvoting Democrats. Stephen Varrella's my guest.
His website, by the way,is Stephen Vrella Steph and Verrella v r
e La. Type it in likeand you'll probably get a Google research that
we'll put it back to you.Stephen Varilla for Colorado dot Com if you
want to learn more. Stephen, you're from the Pueblo area military background.
(04:10):
That district CD three also kind ofswoops up that eastern slope up into the
high country. And so you've gotthe working class folks of Pueblo, which
you've also got the snowdy people oflet's say Aspen and those areas. How
do you reach out to them? How do you score their votes? They
would probably sometimes you wonder if they'rejust kind of in a different camp than
(04:30):
we are. You know, I'lltell you that that is a great question
because out of so far, Iwould say I've traveled almost twenty two thousand
miles since I started my campaign,because it's a huge district, and I
have been I think it's seventeen ofthe eighteen county assemblies. So we made
sure that we were connecting with everybodyin Picking County, which is ass An
(04:51):
area, a lot of the skitowns, there's a lot of working class
folks that live there that are themajority of the vote. They're working in
the service indust three, or theyown restaurants, their business owners. So
it's really interesting to see them startbeing engaged. A lot of them that
I've been talking to, I mean, their values are right there with ours,
and they just say that, youknow, they felt left behind that
(05:12):
the Republican Party wasn't willing to reachout to them. So I've just been
engaging everybody and trying to get someexcitement again. Stephen Varelli is my guest,
Steven. When you get to Congress, let's say that you win and
you're winning that district, and tobe very competitive, I want to talk
about kind of what your first andforemost mission will be. But only got
a couple of seconds left, solet me rapid fire your opponent in the
(05:33):
Democrat assuming you win the Republican nomination. We've talked about why you think you
should be the guy over the otherRepublicans. The fundraising is key. There
was word that your opponent was raisinga heck of a lot of money when
he thought he was going to takeon Laura and Bobert. Is money still
going to be an issue for aRepublican candidate up there? Well, you
(05:54):
know, money is always an issuein campaigns, but I'll tell you CD
three is the twelve performing our district. We just got the right candidate in
their fighting. And you know someof the things we run into even right
now within our own party, asyou know, there's we have questionnaires about
being endorsed or how you're going tobe endorsed and throughout the state. I
just think one of the biggest thingsis if candidates fight, keep their head
(06:15):
down, keep going, stay awayfrom the party bosses, and continue the
mission. We can get up thereand we can fight in DC and we
can win this race, twelve hourdistrict. We could win it. Stephen
Verrella, I wish you the bestof luck. You're always welcome on the
program. Pass the word to yourpeople and let them know you want to
come back on you if you wantto. I don't want to put words
in your mouth. Stephen Varrella forColorado dot Com. Stephen Varrella for Colorado
