Lunch: ok I think I overreacted

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Tuesday. Welcome to the fifth thing. I'm amy and
I'm cat, and today's quote comes from a meme. We
love sharing memes as quotes, but I guess this is
a meme right. It was posted on Instagram on the
account my therapist says, which is a great account, by
the way. Wait, do you know the definition of a meme?
I don't, because I was gonna I call everything a
meme that's on Instagram, as long as it's a graphic

(00:26):
with words or image with words. Yeah, meme, or something
funny that makes you read that. All right. So this meme,
TVT on, if that's what we're going to call it,
says my emotions, and this is like just emotion, emotions
throughout the day. Seven am today I'll be more positive.
Ten Am, I hate my job, the sun and myself. Lunchtime. Okay,

(00:50):
I think I overreacted. Five PM, another stupid day is over.
Eight PM. If I get enough sleep, I'll be fine.
Twelve am, crying. I hope Aliens Destroy Earth. Cat sent
me that in a text message and said I feel
like this is you l and then I thought, Oh man,

(01:14):
I really take some people in my life on my
roller coaster of emotions, especially if you were able to
see me in this at all. She said, except for
the aliens. Part mine is I think I'm just going
to move to Canada, which I've never even been to Canada,
so I don't know why I would move there. It
just sounds like something that would be helpful at times.

(01:37):
Just disappeared in Canada, you said. It's close enough but
also far enough away. Sure, and it's really pretty and
they speak French there. My children are Haitian and they
grew up speaking creole. My daughter is taking French. I
feel as though it's a good right anyway. So that
if what's the definition of a meme, because that's what

(01:59):
I wanted to share with everybody. That's the MEME I
wanted to share, but we don't even know if it's
a meme. I think we're right. It's a noun. First
of all, humorous image, video, piece of text, et Cetera,
that is copied, often with slight variations, and spread rapidly
by Internet users. Okay, well, boom, it doesn't mean so
it doesn't happen. I just thought it sometimes like had
to be a picture and then like a quote about

(02:20):
the picture. Nope, yeah, now we know it doesn't. So
we have an announcement and that is well. It came
out yesterday, the announcement did. But if you missed it
because you don't follow on Instagram or listen to the
bowl in which it all or the bobby bones show whatever, however,

(02:40):
you maybe heard of it or missed it. Four things
with Amy Brown is going live, like a live podcast.
The we've discussed a tour on the podcast before. I'm
not committing to a tour situation, although I do see
more cities in the future, but that will likely be three,

(03:00):
because the witch at all live event is going down November. Five,
and I feel as though even pulling that together has
been crazy and November seems far away, or it did
at the time when we started planning, and then now
it's rapid fire and everything's happening and emails are flying
and content is being created and it's out there. So,
if you live in Wichita or near which are you

(03:24):
you wanting to go to? which you're kind of close to? Kansas?
My friend Mary Elizabeth, who I used to work with
back in the day before I got into radio. I
worked in natural stone sales and she worked with me,
was my first job out of college, my first real
job besides the front dusk at Goldshym and I was
with her the other night and telling her about it
and she said, Oh, I think I'm going to try
to come to which tall she's never been but she

(03:46):
just wants to come and be supportive. And we've just
known each other for so long and we don't see
each other all the time by any means, but we
kind of talked about how each decade of our lives
we've had different seasons where we get together and from
the twenty or twenties to thirties and now we're in
our forties. And then we were talking about our memories

(04:06):
we can make in our fifties and our sixties, and
so she's someone that I've always looked up to. She's
a little bit older than me. I actually took her
job when she left the company to go start her
own company. So I loved my dinner with her because
it was very empowering and motivating and encouraging and I
love that she's considering coming to which Agal and you
know Kansas. If you don't know the map of the

(04:28):
United States, cat has to be in California for something
because Cat's going to be there, and she was like,
Oh shoot, I'm gonna be in California until the fourth
and I'm like we'll figure it out. So I pull
up the map and I'm like perfect, instead of flying
all the way back to Nashville from L A, Kansas
has smacked out in the middle of the country, next

(04:50):
to Colorado. So I feel like my sister. Maybe would
be easy for her to Mosey on over way a second. Huh,
I have to fill up a map. Well, no, it's
why you don't believe me. No, you believe you. But
I feel a little bit dumb because when you said
Kansas is next to Colorado, I thought that Colorado is
further to the wet is the one closest to the West.

(05:12):
So I don't know if I haven't totally right, but
is it like California, Nevada, Arizona? Um, I thought Colorado
was more like where Wyoming is. Yeah, that's more up. Yeah, wow, okay, okay, yeah,
Kansas is literally in the middle of the United States. Yes, so,

(05:32):
if it's a now, which ITA not necessarily all the
easiest to get too at times, but that is where
we are kicking things off. which is always our first
city that we ever syndicated into with the bobby bones
show back in the mid I don't know it's maybe
it's two thousand eight or something, and two thousand nine
we were in one market in Austin. We were pop

(05:53):
and when Bobby decided to syndicate the show, he chose
which it all and that's where we went and people
there have been loyal ever since and I'm super excited.
And so the podcast will get loaded on the feed.
So we'll record it yes and then you'll be able
to listen if you don't live in Kansas or you
can't get there, and then what we'll do is, if

(06:15):
we do the live event, it will kind of be
the same format ish when we take it to different cities,
but certain things will change because I want the content
to be fresh. Plus will do audience interaction, so that
will naturally allow the content to change and evolve and
be different. But then when it's loaded up you feel
like you're listening to something else or working on fun
little surprises. At least they're fun to me. And all

(06:40):
tickets include a four things gift from the shop forward
and one country, and so I'm very excited about that.
But it's going down November five at the century to
Performing Arts and Convention Center and tickets go and sale
this Friday sept and the website for that is select
a seat dot com slash amy. So select a seat

(07:01):
dot com slash amy, or you can go to radio
amy and world put a link there. Would shout out
to Nata, who some people know her because she used
to work on the bobby bones show, but she did
my graphic for this event and it's so cool. She's
so cool. She's the best in the business. Like she
is the best in the BIZ. So good. So just

(07:22):
thankful for that and her artistic gift and others that
are making this night possible, from my Ihart team to,
you know, bobby even encouraging me along the way. We've
had some meetings about it, and premier networks, which is,
you know, another part of our company, Fasio, the shot

(07:44):
forward and Mary and their role that. I don't know
exactly what all we're going to have there, but there
will be some merch and I'm trying to think if
we'll come up with something new. I don't know. Mary
and I still need to talk about it, but they're
like I said, there will be a four things gift
with every single ticket purchase. There will be a v
I P situation, so people could do that, but this

(08:04):
is even if you're not v I P, you're still
going to get the gift. And I don't know the
four questions we're going to break down for the night,
which that leads me to also thinking Ali Fallon. It's
because she's helping me get the things from my brain
onto paper and what I envisioned for the night, and
that's her gift and talent. But question number one would

(08:24):
be what does it look like to really live your life?
Second one is what have you not been able to
admit to yourself? Third one is what is the right
next step for you, and fourth one is how do
you want to be remembered, which, fy it's not all
serious content. All of those questions are very serious, it seems,
but we are gonna have fun too, and you know,

(08:45):
cat will be there. Obviously Fun, but cat is there
too as the expert, because I am not going to
ever be on stage as some expert expert. I am
asking all these questions to myself too. I'm walking through
a lot of this and going to be unpacking it
and it's because there's going to be questions from the audience.
Having an expert on hand is crucial to me because

(09:06):
I'm not trying to scream from a stage. This is
what you need to do and this is going to
change your life and if you just became this like
wild motivational speaker, that's just like no. Well, I don't know,
we'll see. I don't see that being my lane. That's
just not my lane. I want to come alongside and
show that Fig Robin Roberts, make your mess, your message

(09:30):
like things are, and that's from Robin's mom actually, which
Mary and I are working on a new four things
gratitude journal. I D M Robin to see if she
would write a little quote about practicing gratitude, because you know,
she uses her four things journal every day. We didn't
know for sure that she used to use it, but
we see home in her instagram videos and we see
it on her dressing room table and then sometimes we

(09:52):
see the pen move and then one day she patted
it and said she put something that she was thankful
for for some people that were in her dressing room. Sonia.
We have roof that she uses it so I just
deemed her and said, hey, we're coming out with our
third edition and we would love to include a quote
from you, an endorsement of sorts for a daily gratitude practice.
And you know how you can see someone has seen
something but then they don't reply. I know she didn't

(10:16):
reply well for about a day and a half and
I was so excited because I thought, oh no, but
I could tell she was in Mississippi with her family
and she was traveling to London to cover the Queen's
so she's got a lot going on and I think
she was just in London a few days ago. Before
that she was on vacation. So it was never a
good time for me to send it. And then it

(10:39):
took a minute, but she replied and she said she
would be honored and so she's going to write up
something and so we're working on that. So that'll be cool.
And I don't know how I got off on that.
I think if your mess your message, I thought of
Robin Robertson you were asking what I want to be
remembered for her. What is this? I'm I'm figuring that

(11:00):
out too. So we're exploring these questions and I pulled
something from the press release that went out and it
says attendees will be treated to a night of laughter,
Fund and Self Exploration as Amy Discusses Four important questions
in search of a more fulfilling, joyful life. The intimate
evening will feature conversation on living life, getting unstuck, making
a move and showing up in the world. which those

(11:22):
are the four different questions, those categories. v I P
packages are available for the chance to hang before the
show and all tickets included four things gifts from the
shop for to one country. So, oh woo, it's happening.
So sorry, that's just dominated several minutes of the intro
of this and if you're not going then you're probably

(11:43):
bored with it. But it's good to know that if
you can not attend, this will be a future episode
that we will be unpacking and sharing on the feed.
So this is a message for everybody. Yeah, so that's
why we took some time with it here. I do
have some emails from listeners that I want to get into,

(12:12):
and the first one is from Kathy and I know
she sent it to you as well, because right when
I brought it up he said, oh, is this that email.
So Kathy said, Love, Love, love you, ladies. When you
do a podcast together never fails to make me laugh
out loud and wish I could hang with you. Here's
some more Info, backed Oh and she's referring to the

(12:33):
snoozing that we have talked about. That's why she said
here's some more info, backed by science and disgusted by
yours and mine, our favorite lifecoat, Mel Robbins, which, if
you're in on our mel drinking game, it's time to
take a SIP. So, if you go to Youtube and
type in Mel Robbins, why? Hitting Snooze Ruins your brain.

(12:55):
Here's what she has to say about that. And here
is the deal. If you're somebody like I used to be,
that hits the Snooze Button, that kills your productivity for
at least four hours. Let me explain if you have
to understand this. The snooze button creates a mental state,

(13:16):
a state in your brain that is called sleep inertia.
It's so bad it actually has a name. Here's what
it is. When you and I go to bed, we
sleep in cycles. We sleep in cycles of like ninety
to ten minutes all night long, and right before you
wake up the sleep cycles, they stop and your body
goes into a wake up mode. Okay, your brain is

(13:39):
starting to slowly wake up. All Right, I'm not gonna
play the whole thing again. You can go to Youtube
and type in Mel Robbins why hitting Snooze Ruins your
brain and you can listen to the science that she's sharing.
But I know that your pro snows I have not
won you over yet at all whatsoever. And what are
your thoughts? Well, okay, I pro multiple alarm so I

(14:02):
can hang out in my bed, but that's still snoozing. Yeah, yeah, well, well,
do we talk about like if I'm waking up and
I'm like, you know, reading an email or stretching, that's
what you should not read your email right when you're
in Bedway, Um, I when I first heard that, I
was like, well, is what does how does she know that?
Like it impairs for four hours. It seems just like

(14:25):
a little bit extreme, because I feel like I'm pretty
productive and I do that. But I also looked up
what sleep inertia was because I was like, you just
got a fact check stuff you hear right, right, so
she's right. SLEEP INERTIA is a period of impaired performance
and grogginess experience after waking. It's actually a concern for
people who are on call or people that nap during

(14:46):
work hours and need to perform safety critical tasks soon
after waking. Okay, so I am on season seven of
Grey's anatomy now, or something. They have the okay, so
it just came up where meredith was narrating something about
how more now I'm paraphrasing what she said, and it's

(15:08):
a fictional TV show, but also I feel like they
work in factual things that you know when things go wrong,
oftentimes it could potentially be the overnight staff, which I get,
and there's no slam to anybody that has to work overnight.
I have spent many overnights in the hospital with both
of my parents and I have so much respect for
people that work the overnights. It's not so much maybe

(15:29):
if you're working the nighttime shift, but it's like, how
long have you actually been working and what kind of
sleep were you able to get when you were off,
because it's probably difficult to do that. But that, I guess,
in a way, meredith was saying. Why? I am a
nervous to say this. It's a fictional TV show. So
I just don't like anybody to hold me accountable to
what I'm saying or feel bad if they work, you know,

(15:51):
in a nighttime position, but that more mistakes are just
made overnight. I think that probably is factual, but we
did in fact check that because it's been some but
that all speaks to like people who work those jobs
also have to then alter their life to that schedule
to make sure that they like. That's really hard to me.
I hope the overnight people make more money. They do right.

(16:12):
I don't know if we have any courses, but I mean, yes,
they are angels, literal angels. They have a gift that
I do not have. But I think the point of
this is we all should just wake up when we
wake up. It's just the point is we're just continuing
this news conversation. We're going to try to encourage people

(16:32):
cat to adopted, because I was pro s news for
so long and then now I see, I feel it
in myself, the benefits of if I just get up
and go hi, five myself in the mirror, make my bed,
do all these little things that help me feel better,
do my three minutes of journaling. You know, if go,

(16:54):
if it's a weekend because my my job starts too
early and during the weekday to get outside. But if
I want get my circadian rhythm off to a good start,
then I go get some natural sunlight first thing in
the morning for just a few minutes, and so that's
when I take my journal outside and I killed two
birds with one stone. I Journal for three minutes and
I get natural light for three minutes. But again, I
can only do that on Saturday and Sundays. All right,

(17:15):
you want to go to the next okay. Thank you, Kathy,
for sending us that email. She did say love and
hugs your friend, Kathy. Now this next email is from
shelby and it's a long one, but it is worth it.
I love every single thing that shelby had to say,
and then I love her name, just shell be in general.
It makes me think it's still magnolious. I've never seen that.

(17:37):
What I know. Well, she's calling you out for stuff
you've never seen in the beginning of the too. So
now you have homework to watch that, because it's one
of the greatest movies of all time. Steel Magnolia's pretty
woman dirty dancing. What's the weather? That just came out
with like a new version. Was that still MAGNOIA's? I
do not think so. I don't know. You said Donut.
I do not think so. Did they? I don't think so. Well,

(18:00):
if they did, I did not watch. It's pretty no,
I've never seen that either. Okay, anyway, Hey, amy, I
have all of these thoughts while listening to each episode
and I always want to email. It just seems like
a daunting task sometimes, so I'm going to send a
few things I've been wanting to send for weeks now,
maybe months. You Ready, cat? Okay, here's what she says.

(18:21):
Cat has to watch friends. It's not too late. It's
never too late. I started in two thousand nineteen, two
twenty for the first time. I'm currently twenty four, turning
this month, so I was roughly two when I watched.
Do the math. I was not even born when friends
first aired. Also, my husband now loves it because it's
one of those comfort shows that we watch on loop.

(18:41):
So it would be good and lighthearted for cat and
big pe to watch together. Do you think big peele
come to he already said he would. Okay, yeah, he
said I'll be there, but then I said it's in
Kansas and he said, well, already committed. Okay, so let's
go all right. And then shelby goes on to say, amy,
you absolutely have to read where the crowd dad sing.

(19:02):
I'm begging you not to see the movie before you
read the book. And lastly, the reason that I actually
sat down to send this email is to write to Chelsea. Now,
this is me here. Chelsea sent in an emailed us
about her miscarriage and grieving. Remember that, Katherine. Okay, so
here's what shelby wants Chelsea to hear. I miscarried my

(19:22):
first and only child in July, August, July slash August,
and found out after two appointments only the sack was growing.
Now I'm about to start the infertility journey. It's been
about a year and I've just gotten to the point
where I feel like it's okay to grieve. I don't
have anyone else to take care of either, but it

(19:43):
felt silly to grieve when I was being told things like, oh,
it was just an empty sack, you'll have another, you're
still young, you didn't even hear the heartbeat, so it
should be easier. Sometimes these things happen because your baby
wouldn't have been healthy or could have had chromos nomal disorders. Okay, yeah,
I believe it or not. Like people were really saying

(20:04):
this to her. Right back to the email, she says
these were said to me by close friends, family and
doctors who I respected. Soon I began believing these things.
I imagine that this is why it felt selfish for
her to grieve, because she may have been told or
began believing, that her grief wasn't valid. Another thing that
complicated my grief was thinking I should be done with

(20:26):
the sadness already or just get over it. Someone told
me that grief is complicated because you have to first
grieve the loss and then grieve life after the loss.
So to Chelsea or anyone else grieving, I would say
your grief is valid. Your baby, no matter how far
along you are or is a human life formed in
your womb at conception and is real. Whether you grieve

(20:48):
immediately or busy yourself and put it off, the grief
will demand itself and not be ignored. Allow yourself time
and space, talk about it on or your body and
your baby. Make space for your husband and allow this
to grow your mar age, but keep in mind husband's
grieve differently than us. Don't let yourself believe things that
just aren't true. Set Boundaries to protect your mental health.

(21:08):
Think about how to respond to hurtful, insensitive comments before
they happen. Don't try to get over it and forget it. Rather,
grieve the life you lost and your life after the loss.
Honor your baby on the big days and in the
small moments, Mother's Day, due date, the anniversary of when
you found out you were pregnant and then the one
where you found out you warrant, or the day that

(21:28):
you have to have a d n C. for me,
that looked like either talking about it and recognizing it
with my husband, cooking our favorite meal, getting a solo massage,
taking my husband on a day date in the middle
of the week, or crying in the car with sunglasses on.
There's so much more I'd like to say, but I'll
leave you with this quote. Perhaps the butterfly is proof

(21:49):
that you can grow through a great deal of darkness
and still becomes something beautiful. I don't know who said this.
She goes. There's also this Bible verse, Psalm Nine. He
settles the Childless Woman in her home as a happy
mother of children. Praise the Lord Amy. I think you
talked about the butterfly analogy on a previous episode. I
ten out of ten recommend listeners go back to that. Butterflies,

(22:12):
doves and rainbows are my symbols that I resonate with
through this miscarriage, grief in healing. I have bought things
that fill my closet and home with these reminders of
who I am because of what I've been through and
honor my own board child in my everyday life. Oh
and Courtney Cox Monica on friends. She had to film
the episode of friends where Jennifer Aniston Rachel gives birth

(22:34):
to Emma a day after she had a real life miscarriage.
We can do hard things and we can be the
hero of our story. I would like to share a
couple of resources that helped me. The book and Podcast
held the Book Grace Like Scarlett, the book gentle and
lowly and the book dark cloud's Deep Mercy. Counseling has
also been the best thing. I only wish I started

(22:54):
it sooner. I'm just south of Memphis, so I'd love
a four things life to come here, but I'll drive
to Nashville or the nearest city to hang out with
you and cat. I love four things, but the fifth
thing is probably my favorite. Most listened to. Cat is
a great addition and it truly feels like y'all are
my friends. Big Hugs, shelby. Okay, I know she talked
about her age in the beginning, but I was listening

(23:14):
to that and I was like, this woman is so wise. Yes, very,
and I love and you know, maybe you're not grieving
the loss of a baby, whatever it is. You know,
you maybe didn't relate to the miscarriage part, but if
you're holding off grieving something else in your life, that
doesn't seem like it deserves that attention. Shelby just gave

(23:35):
you a lot of permission to do that. So, shelby,
thank you so much for sharing that email. And I
did not know that about Courtney Cox. Yeah, that's crazy.
So are you going to watch friends now? Okay, so, Oh,
I have a recommendation. What is it? Well, so I
just started watching parks and rec have you seen that? Okay,

(23:56):
so that's not my recommendation, but I feel like I
have to get through that before they start ends. Okay,
so I'm not saying no, but I'm not saying yes
in this moment. However, last night I just finished severance.
Did you watch that? Did I? They put your brain
in half. No, is not the one where your job.
You Watch it, you separate your personal life from your

(24:19):
professional life, like you have. Can Imagine, I wouldn't be
able to do this job. Well, our job is very different.
You're right, you were not. Okay, so you couldn't do it,
but I couldn't stop talking about it after I finished
it last night, the season finale, and I woke up
at five am talking about it. It is so good. Okay,
so you watched that from apple plus? Right, I've already

(24:41):
started it before, but I couldn't get into it. I
thin you'd have to watch like the second episode. I
think I saw that one. Okay, but the season finale
was one of the best season finale's ever. Okay. Well,
I definitely didn't get near the finale, so I'll go
back and try to give that. Like the finale ended
and I literally go and I was like so upset

(25:01):
that it was over. They're going to come out of
the season two, don't worry. Okay, so you finish that
and now why do you need to get through parks
and red before you start Um friends, like just let
it go. I mean, but parks and wreck is good.
I've heard that from many people. I feel like I
can only watch one like feel good show at a time.
You know, I want to give parks and the attention
it deserves, and I'll give friends the attention it deserves. Okay, well,

(25:25):
but what do I watch friends on now? It is
on Hbo Max, which is another reason why you need
to get that is because of holiday movie, like Christis
movie that comes out. No, Dang it, I was gonna say,
what if the four things Um live was actually a
live screaming for you? I started to get worried because
I haven't heard the premiere. You know, they do a
big premiere. I assume IT WILL BE IN L A.

(25:47):
I don't know. You have to go carpet. I want
to go, but I haven't heard a date of when
that is, and I started to get nervous. What if
it's November five and I'm already planning this whole thing
in which, at all, you'll have to pick what you'd
rather be, a podcaster or a movie star? Well, I'm
going to have to go. I want to do the
podcast because live. We're already it's already well, I'm hoping

(26:10):
that it's going to be later in the month and then, yeah,
I don't know what's going to happen, but I definitely
hope it's a later date and it's in L A,
so I'll just have to find a way to get there.
I have no idea if my work schedule with the
bobby bones show would allow for me to go, but
I think bobby would be like, oh, yeah, you should go.
That's like a once in a lifetime thing, except for
the fact that you said it's not. I know, I know, Star,

(26:32):
I met with an acting coach. We'll have to talk
about more of that later, but it was interesting. It
wasn't even more so. Well, it was just to see.
It wasn't because I have anything in the works. It
was just more of a curiosity. Yeah, you should do
an Improv class. She said she can work on Improv
with me. I looked at Improv classes and some of
them are three hours long on a Sunday and I can't. No,

(26:57):
I can't, there's no I couldn't find a window to
Improv class work, although that's something I would definitely want
to do, but speaking of an Auda earlier, talking about
her doing the graphics, she introduced me to this one
person in town that works with some people, and that's
who I met with and it was interesting. We do
a lot of breathwork, like breathing exercises. She says that

(27:18):
I had some anger in my uh, I forget which Chakra,
but that I had to like tap into that and
get it out. And that's one of the things if
you even want to try to tap into a character,
which in holiday harmony and playing myself, didn't really have
to tap into a character per se, but if I
would wanted to pursue this or audition for anything else,

(27:40):
I would need to tap into whoever this person is.
Maybe I can play angry person. Okay. Well, I hope
y'all are having the day you need to have, and
don't forget Friday the tickets going on sale for the
live so select a seat dot com slash amy. And

(28:03):
then also something that is up and went live last
weekend or last Friday, was the shop boards whole fall
collection line. But all the four things items are supporting
project Meta share in Haiti. So if you're looking for
something fall and cozy, it's the first time we've ever
done a t shirt option and all of this stuff
is high quality, best material, feels soft cozy. You'RE gonna

(28:26):
love it for the fall time. And Mary put up
a denim jacket for the first time, which is something cute.
She hasn't done before, but she worked on it for
a very long time and it's so cute. I'm obsessed
and it's sold out, but there is an email list
you can get on. So if you go to the
shop four dot com slash fall, you can see all
those items and if you click on the denim jacket

(28:46):
then you'll see the email sign up thing, but then
you can check out all the items. The other stuff
that's not four things or a squaw is supporting under
privileged youth here in the states through youth centers of Orange.
So a lot of cute things that give back to
some amazing causes. So encourage you to check that out. Alright, cat,
where can everybody find you? On instagram? At at Cat

(29:09):
Dot de Fata and at you need therapy podcast by
so yeah, bye,
