Bonus Episode!! For this listener-led series, Amy sat down with podcast listener, Kelli Carroll. Kelli went "OG 4 things" style and put together these 4 random, unrelated and light questions for Amy:

1. Tips on your social media breaks?? Why is taking a break from Insta such a hard thing to do sometimes... Do you delete your apps or are you diligent about not checking them?

2. Fiction book recommendation update!! Have you read anymore Emily Giffin?? OMG you will not believe what I got in the MAIL from HER!! It was so cool, I was fan-girling like crazy. Also I have another fiction recommendation (Book Lovers - Emily Henry- SO GOOD!!!)

3. This is a question that my girlfriends and I always ask each other when we are catching up... What are you looking forward to in the upcoming weeks/season?

4. My parents and I created a random and fun George Strait song drinking game (no alcohol required lol) on the beach the other day. Want to play?? We call it "Ping Pong Strait" I'll explain the rules!!

Hope you enjoy this little Q&A whether you listen to it on a ‘Sunday Stroll’ {shout out ‘The Walk Thing’ — iykyk!!} or not! :)

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Sunday of four things. Fam this is a listener
q and a bonus episode day. We don't do these
all the time, but I'm sitting across from Kelly Carroll,
so why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself,
where you're from, how long you've been listening? Okay, so
my name is Kelly Carroll, Kelly Carroll Bissit. I live

(00:25):
in Clayton, North Carolina. It's about thirty minutes south of Raleigh,
Um Hour and twenty minute playing ride in Nashville. Love Nashville.
I am a third grade school teacher and I'm actually
taking Grad school classes online right now through East Carolina
University for Library Science to hopefully be a school librarian

(00:46):
one day. Oh that's awesome. How far away is Clayton
from Southern Pines? An our ish maybe? Okay, I've been
to your friends store of the mocking bird on broad yes, yes,
I've been there. I haven't been into the new one.
Didn't she open up a new one? Yeah, so she
was on main street down by the theater and the

(01:06):
coffee shop, but then she moved further down main street
the other direction, and that's kind of there's two ends
of Main Street. She was on one end before and
now she's on the opposite end in a bigger space
and it's so cute. So next time you're down in
the southern fines you'll have to go go to mockingburn
on broad and chef warns, chef warrens. Okay, very good.

(01:29):
Is that a restaurant? Yes, he was my neighbor. His
name is Warren and he's the chef. Jeff Florence. Yeah,
did you ever find your ring? I haven't yet. It's
still lost. But that is where I lost my aggie
ring and our house was broken into and we lived
in downtown southern fines. My husband's Air Force ring at

(01:51):
the time was stolen and he ended up just buying
a new one, but I've never invested on buying another
aggie ring. As a pilot Air Force Academy, you kind
of want that ring to certain places because it's a
a feather. Air Force people are there. It's a good
conversation starter and networking. So an Aggie ring is good
for networking too. But I have not I have not

(02:13):
found it. So I'll go ahead and let you get
into the four questions that you prepared. This is your show.
You can take it away, Kelly. Okay. Well, this is
a very o g style. I'm a faithful listener to
the four things podcast, so when you say that it's
going to be an o g episode, I get super
excited because the questions or the topics on the four

(02:34):
things O g styles are just random and lie and fun.
So I wanted to make this an o g style.
Q and A. Well, that's really good feedback. That's good
to know. So I can create more o g episodes
and I could do that, but I couldn't decide to
people want the interviews and the content that comes with
that or did they like the randomness of an O g?
I love the randomness, which I think a good mix

(02:57):
is great and you do great for both of them.
So I like both. Okay, first question. All right, first thing,
do the Walker Haze. First thing. First. The first thing
is I've heard you talk about limiting your social media
this summer and I was just wondering if you could

(03:19):
share some insight and some advice of how you do that.
Like do you delete your apps? Do you turn off
your notifications? Are you just extremely disciplined and just leave
your phone as it is? How do you do that. Well.
I don't have notifications on ever for anything, so that
is good. But I do realize that some people like

(03:42):
to know if certain things pop up on different APPS,
and that's okay. But for me, whenever I'm doing any
APP and it says leave notifications on, I always click no,
because I feel as though that's one way that our
phone gets us to continue to be addicted to it.
So I out of that and then I have to
be super intentional. There's Times where I have completely deleted

(04:05):
the APP, but then other times where I just move
the icon to not my home screen, so I have
to scroll to get to it and it makes it
a little more difficult. But I mean I surprised myself how,
even with that and still having it on there, how
my thumb obviously it's more than just my thumb doing it.
My brain is telling my thumb to go to it

(04:27):
and click on it. But how often I just click
on it without even really realizing that I went to
go click on it? Yeah, like without even thinking, and
then you look down and you've been on your phone
for twelve minutes. Yes, and so I I've created a
little more discipline, but it takes work sometimes. I will
catch my thumb going to it and I'll be like no,

(04:49):
or I'll click on it and it'll open up and
I think what am I doing here? No, shoot, and
I get out because I don't want to go down
the rabbit hole of that distraction or to just get
caught up in it. I've learned when I have the
capacity for it, I can go all in and when
I don't, I have to listen to that, because I

(05:10):
do enjoy social media and I think it's amazing that
the friendships that I've made through twitter and instagram and
I like the interaction. I like to go see my
friends stuff, which I've missed a lot more of because
I'm not on as much. But I want to be
able to support them too in different things, so I
find myself sometimes going back to try to catch up

(05:32):
on what they've been posting or what they've been up to.
But for me I've just had to really make it
a priority to not get sucked in as much scent. Okay,
so going into my second question, we need a fiction
book update. Are you still reading some Emily Giffen? Yes,

(05:55):
I have finally finished meant to be and the one
and only which were two books. I was working on
hers and they're so good. Meant to be is a
love story I think is inspired by JFK, and then
the other one is a football book. That was very
interesting to me. Yeah, okay, do you know what I'm

(06:16):
talking about? One, yes, the one and only. So I
was surprised at some things in there, but I don't
want to give anything. In a way, in the beginning
I felt like it was a little bit slow and
I thought, oh shoot, am I not going to get
into this? And then towards the end I was listening
to everything I was doing. Even if I say I
was putting my son to bed and he was going

(06:39):
to go change and use the restroom and brush his teeth,
I was like, Oh, I've got five minutes. So I
don't remember the coach's name in that book, but I
always visualized Kevin Costner. Oh, it's so much better for me.
That's interesting, because I was picturing coach Taylor from Friday

(06:59):
Night Lights. Yes, yeah, oh, he's a good one too.
I don't know why. I guess because he was a
little bit older in the book, right, wasn't he a
little bit older? Oh, yeah, he was older. Yeah, yeah,
so I think that that's why I visualized Kevin Costner. No,
that's probably good. You probably had more of that right
than I did. I don't know. They're thinking Friday night

(07:20):
lights football plus coach Taylor, who that's high school football. So, yeah,
I had it all wrong. You're probably right with Kevin Costner. Well,
maybe it will be a Netflix series one day and
it can cast. Oh, I would love that. One of
the next emily given books I am going to read
is all we ever wanted about the Nashville elite. That

(07:40):
one's good, Nina. Yeah, you'll really like that one. I've
read all of her books. They are so, so good.
And Emily Giffen does this really cool thing where you
can right into her po box with Um an envelope
addressed to you with the stamp, and she'll send you
a book plate for your book. So I did out
for her last book and she can. I just show

(08:03):
you and I'll try to describe it as best we can,
because I know other people can't see this. She sent
me all of this stuff back. This is a little
pouch from Oh, yes, that's so cute. Yes, and I
included in my note. I told her. You know, thank
you for sharing your gift of writing and I told
her how I was an inspiring librarian because her mom

(08:25):
was a librarian and I said maybe you could write
about a librarian one day. Much like gray's anatomy prompted
lots of people to go to med school, maybe if
you write about a librarian, people will want to be
librarians or just be interested in picking up a book.
And look what she said. Me Says here's student. I

(08:45):
love that. That's so cool. That's really so how do
we do that if others want to write into her? Yeah,
so she had a po box. I don't have the
address because that wasn't the return address on this package,
but maybe I could email it to and you could
put it on the show notes or something, because I
know I have it. Okay, yeah, we can put it
in the show notes and I love that she, you know,

(09:09):
read it and Oh, she gave your shirt too, everything.
I was like, oh my gosh, that is so nice. Yeah,
that's great. Speaking of Grey's anatomy, to pivot to that
real quick. It's getting wild and crazy over there. I
don't know what season I'm on, but it is getting bizarre.
It is a straight up soap OPARA, for sure. Wait,

(09:30):
are you caught up or are you going back? No,
I went back to episode one, season one, because Netflix
outloaded that up this summer and so I've been working
my way through that and it's bonkers. But now I've
got to I want to go all the way to
current day. Yeah, they're on season eighteen, I think, right now. Yeah,

(09:50):
I think I stopped watching that maybe season sixteen or so.
But it would be nice to finish all the series
like you've made it this far and I was like, Kelly,
you need to do it and it's fun to go
back and do something to start to finish. I did
that with sex in the city. I did it with
nine two and Oh, yes, that was a good one

(10:13):
to do. And Oh, I'm thinking about doing it once
I'm done with gray's anatomy. I'm thinking about doing it
with the Sopranos. Okay, that would be good. I need
to Um start a new show, so maybe I'll just
go back and watch an old faithful my just committed. Yes, yes,
my husband and I we watched the Americans this summer.

(10:34):
So good, and that was an older show. I forgot
about that. I think I was trying to work my
way through, but you know, then you detour and you
get caught up with something else and then you realize, oh,
I never went back to that. I started the winning
time or whatever the show is on Hbo Max About
Magic Johnson and the Lakers, and I have not finished that.

(10:58):
I want to go back, but I guess they might
have to wait to get to season eighteen of gray's anatomy.
We'll see. Yeah, yeah, that's gonna be a while and
then there will be like season so then you just
gotta keep watching grays. I know, I know. Do you
have any other books that you would recommend besides any
of the Emily Giffen ones that you read? Goodness, okay, so, Um,

(11:20):
I just finished Evelyn Hugo last week. Loved that one.
That one was so good. Book Lovers Emily Henry, so good.
It takes place in a little small town in North Carolina.
It's about a girl from New York City. It's like
a hallmark book with a twist. Okay, yeah, yeah, it

(11:41):
goes a little deeper than a hallmark book, but still
hallmark vibes. And Yeah, it is so good. Book Lovers
Emily Henry. Okay, I feel like we got some good
books for people to check out, if for our non
official book club that we're having right now. I love
that so much. So my third question is, and this

(12:12):
is a question that my girlfriends and I we always
ask each other every time we were together, and it's
what are you looking forward to? Well, first of all,
I love that you and your girlfriends have a question
that y'all are committed to asking each other because, you know,
seasons change and, like we've been doing those concrete conversation
questions sometimes on the podcast. The fact that you and

(12:33):
your friends are intentional about engaging I think that's super
cool and hopefully it'll encourage other people to do the same.
And I would say for me, I'm really excited that
my daughters in high school and we're going to start
to do fun high school things, such as you can
have back to football Friday night lights, because her high

(12:54):
school is close to the House and my son just
started playing football, so he's going to be more into it,
so I think he'll enjoy going to the games and
watching the high schoolers play and seeing, you know, my
daughter run around with her friends while we're in the
stands just in our gear, cheering on. I have never
had this season. It's a vibe. I have my first

(13:15):
high schooler. So even im not in Texas, I am
pumped about Friday Night Lights and football for my son.
He's about to start games and that will continue through
the fall and I've never had a little football player before.
So that is what I'm looking forward to this upcoming season.
And just speaking of fall, the weather, because that's a

(13:37):
blanket statement. Every year I will be looking forward to
fall weather. You don't even have to ask me that,
but now that I have a young football player and
a daughter in high school, I will say I'm looking
forward to football season, which is I don't think anything
I've ever really looked forward to. That's a great answer. Yeah,
what about you? Oh goodness, what am I looking forward to? Okay,

(13:58):
so I second all of that, except having kids. I
don't have kids, but I am looking forward to fall
in football and I am looking forward to a new
school year. I think this year's starting out a little
more normal than years past, so that thing to be very,
very grateful for and something to look forward to. This
weekend I have a family get together. Last year with

(14:21):
the extended family, my mom hosted this big party and
she was like, you know what, we just got out
of covid Ish and we do not need to wait
until Christmas or until a funeral to all get together.
So she hosted a family cookout and we're going to
do it again this upcoming weekend, just with the extended
family that we never really see. So that will be fun.

(14:43):
Oh yeah, that's awesome. I'm going to a family get
together with all my cousins in Birmingham this weekend and
I'm pumped about that, just we don't get to all
see each other a lot. My sisters flying in and
we're going to cook some family recipes that everybody loved.
So similar to that, I think that's an ext hiding
time and just getting on group texts and making it happen.

(15:04):
Of course we've talked about it for years, but this
year we finally started a cousin text and we all
just picked a date about two months ago and here
it is and now we're all going going to Birmingham. Yeah,
I love that. I feel like adult ing is putting
something on your calendar literally six months with your friends,
six months in advance. But Hey, it's on the calendar

(15:25):
and that's what matters. Yeah, I walked with a friend
the other day and it was all my calendar I used.
I thought, Gosh, I used to just walk so impromptu
and I thought that that was normal, and here we
are having to schedule walks. But that's okay. It just
means that you're organized with your time, at least as
what I'm telling myself. Yeah, I love that. So my
mom last year she named this family cook out the

(15:48):
Georgian Iris Family Picnic, because those were her grandparents names
that I obviously didn't know, but I guess that they
really loved a host and they loved the family all
being together. So that's what she decided to name this family,
this annual family picnic, and I just think that's so
cute and sweet. Oh yeah, that's precious. Now you're inspiring
me when I get with my cousins this week and
I'm like, well, we need to name the weekend, so

(16:11):
I'll figure out a name. I'm inspired. Yes, okay, so
my fourth question, and maybe this question is something that
you could do with your cousins this weekend. So I
know that you are a big george straight fan and

(16:33):
a few weeks ago I was at the beach with
my parents and they're not big drinkers at all. So
the fact that we made this a drinking game is
just really hilarious. And you do not have to drink
to partake. We just kind of made it that way.
So we created this game called Ping Pong Straight, where
we would name George Straight songs back and forth, and

(16:55):
then if you hesitate, you had to drink. Oh Gosh,
that is hard. I mean because even though I love
George Straight songs, it's like thinking of the title, and
how many can I really think of? I was on
the beach and I was just I was freaking out
because I was like, I am not letting my parents win. Okay,
so what do you got, Amarella? By morning the chair check,

(17:19):
yes or no? Oh, is this? Am I hesitating? Carrying
your love with me, here for a good time? TROUBADOUR
cowboys like us. Oh, baby blue. Oh shoot, is that's
the full title, though? Baby blue was the color of
her eyes. Baby Blue, that's the color. Okay, M Oh crap, Um,

(17:43):
I feel like you're hesitating. Yes, I am, I have
hesitated too, but this is a fun game. I could
see where it gets intense. Yes, and I'm sure that
there's another name for it, but we just caught it
ping pong straight well, and if you have more people
playing as you go around, you have more time to think. Yeah,
so you can start building your because you just have

(18:05):
to get them in your head. Yeah, fireman, they call
me the fun that's a good one. We always with
my kids. We try to look for fun ways to
interact at the dinner table. We ask questions, but then
maybe do high low of the day and then once
that's over, sometimes we bust out, you know, even while

(18:28):
while we're finishing up our food, or we do I spy,
or we do what the meme? Oh, yeah, yeah, and
so we have the card and we play that while
we're eating. Just trying, I'm trying to just get my
kids to just engage at the table. So this could
be something that requires no cards or any props or anything,
and you just could go around and you could make

(18:50):
it name a country, artist and then you each have
to you can start until you run out or, like
we've played on the bobby bones show before, famous people
who's names is Michael or Mike, and then you go
around and try to name Michael Keaton, Mike Tyson, Michael Felt,
Michael Jordan's. Yeah, and so just fun. I mean that one.

(19:12):
I don't know that my kids would be really great
at that, but I could see how I could tailor
this to fit my family. Like fruits and my kids
go around everybody name of fruit and if you hesitate,
then you have to do something. Yeah, or have them
come up with the category. I'm sure that they would
like that. Yeah, Disney Movies, Oh, yes, yes, stuff like that. Okay.

(19:35):
Something that I do with my students at the end
of the day is Rosebud Thorn, rose being where they
have to say the best part of their day, thorn
the not so great part of their day, and the
bud what they're looking forward to. I love that. So
rose thorn, Bud. Yeah, Rosebud Thorn. Yeah, it's easier to

(19:56):
say Rosebud Thorne. Oh, I love this. I'm going to
write the US down. Rosebud Thorn. Yes, Rosebud Thorn. I'm
gonna try that at the table with my kids. Not Tonight.
We won't be sitting around the table because we have
football practice, and that is another thing that is thrown
a wrenched in our family schedule. Is Football is a
big commitment and it's a little bit further away and

(20:18):
it's multiple times a week and it's later. It's like
shifted our whole bedtime by an hour, which for me,
I'm the one that's screaming I need to go to
bed because I have to wake up in the morning,
and the kids are like, we're fine. I'm like, but
I'm not fine. Yes, yes, you can wake up early
for the bobby bones show, right, yes, yeah, okay, but

(20:40):
next time we do have dinner on the table, I'm
going to try Rosebud Thorn. Thank you for teaching. For
the fourth thing, giving us some, you know, game ideas.
Ping Pong straight, ping pong. It all started the ping
pong straight, but I think we evolved it until a
lot of different things. And then I'm going to definitely
check out Emily Henry Book Lovers, I think it was said,

(21:00):
and I just want to thank you for taking the
time to come on and do an o g, four things,
Q and a, of course. Amy, thank you for having me.
This was so fun. Yeah, and thank you for being
a part of the community and such a loyal listener.
There are some people, when I see their name or
their little instagram picture, I just know y'all have been
big supporters of the bobby bones show, of the podcast,

(21:24):
of Espoix and four things and other stuff from the
shop forward, and that's not lost on me. If y'all
are showing up continuously, then your loyal followers of it
all and that means a lot. No, well, thank you. Well,
it is. I definitely feel like I am a part
of the community with the four things and I'm very,
very grateful for that. Well, and thank you for all

(21:46):
that you do for kids and good luck continuing your
education and library science. Thank you. Yeah, I don't even
think I knew that was a thing. Yes, I have
very open poems about where this will take me. Okay,
I had a dream like three nights in a row
that I was working for the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation,

(22:06):
and I guess that's out of D C and I
live in Clayton, North Carolina, and I'm like, okay, what
is that supposed to me? So we'll see. Open pomps, yeah,
which just means you're open to what happened, open to
whatever is in store. Okay, well, you're gonna have to
keep us posted where this takes you. If you end

(22:26):
up in D C. The bobby bones show is on
air there on W M Z Q. You can listen
every morning there as well. Okay, okay, it sounds good
and you'll have to let us know what you and
your cousin's name, your family get together this weekend. Okay,
I will update you all on that well. Thank you
so much and hope listeners enjoyed this on their Sunday
stroll or however they chose to listen. And thank you,

(22:49):
Kelly so much for taking the time. Thank you, amy.
