OUTWEIGH: We're bombarded with pressure to look a certain way. It can be overwhelming and constantly worrying about your appearance can distract you from living your life. Amy wants you to feel empowered by rejecting these thoughts and to start practicing radical self-love! To help you REFRAME things, Amy shares positive affirmations/mantras that will help you on your journey towards loving yourself more: mindy, body and soul! The goal of the affirmations is to train your brain to overcome self-sabotaging thoughts. Reframing takes time, but you are worth it, and it can start with 1 simple affirmation (although Amy shares several for you to work with!) Amy also closes this episode out with 2 journaling prompts that will help you have more positive thoughts about yourself and gratitude for your body!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
I won't let my body out be outwait everything that
I'm made, don't won't spend my life trying to change.
I'm learning to love who I am. Ag I'm strong,
I feel free, I know every part of me. It's
beautiful and then will always out way if you feel it.

(00:24):
But yours here, She'll some love to the food. Why
have there take you day? Anita? Did you and die?
Out way? Happy Saturday? Outwayh fam amy here. I hope
you all have enjoyed the last several weeks with Leanne Ellington.
I love her. I love her wisdom and what she
brings and shares, and she just got so much knowledge

(00:47):
and expertise. And I'm gonna be doing some episodes with
her coming up, which will be amazing. But today it's
just me, and I always like to give a disclaimer
that I'm not an expert. I am just here as
someone who wants to be a dose of encouragement because
I know when I was in the throes of my
disordered behaviors, I desperately wanted encouragement and outweigh has evolved

(01:12):
a little bit over the years and now I see
it as just that a weekly dose of encouragement for you,
nothing too overwhelming, because I know when you're in the
middle of it, like it's like, Okay, I just need
something simple. I need to understand this, I need to
process because your brain has a lot of other things
going on, but we want to work on rewiring that brain,

(01:36):
reframing things, and so I'm here to give you some
encouragement in doing that and sharing some things that helped me. Now,
some of you listen to podcasts while you're driving, or
maybe you're walking or you'ut doing something so you can't
close your eyes. But if you happen to be somewhere
you can close your eyes. I would love for you
to do that because I want you to picture a
beautiful photo that you love. Maybe it's full of people

(01:59):
that you love, friends, family, kids, whatever, or it could
be a piece of artwork, beautiful art work, but it
has a frame around it, and the frame is just
it's dingy and wimpy. Because the photograph, the picture, the artwork,
it's amazing, like it deserves a frame that is awesome,
but the current frame you would never in a million
years pick out for it. But that's what's around the picture. Well,

(02:22):
when we're thinking about ourselves in such a negative way.
We our mind, body, spirit, our soul. Who we are
at the core is the beautiful piece of artwork. It's
the picture that is so precious and special, and we
deserve the beautiful frame. But when we're thinking that way,
we are the uh frame. And so we're going to
talk about reframing this episode and redirecting your brain, which

(02:46):
we've done before. But I always need this type of encouragement.
I do this stuff too, So I am I am you.
I do these things, and it may not work for you.
I'm not saying it absolutely will, but I'm sharing what
has worked for me. And I'm going to give you
some affirmations you can say to yourself that'll work towards

(03:10):
giving you a new beautiful frame to hold up around you,
to hold up around that precious photo. So you can
close your eyes when I read the affirmations to you,
if that's helpful. If one resonates with you, then pause
it and hit rewind and listen to it again, and
make sure to write it down. You can write down
all of them and say a lot of them throughout

(03:31):
the day, but if there's one or two or three
that resonate focus on those and say them to yourself
over and over and over, even if you're lying to yourself.
I was watching a YouTube interview on the School of Greatness.
I can't remember Lewis's guest that day, but that's an
excellent podcast to listen to, by the way, or you
can watch his videos on YouTube, which is mostly what

(03:53):
I do with his. But his guest was talking about
how lying to ourselves is great as long as it's positive,
like you're moving yourself in the direction to give yourself
the beautiful new frame. In fact, I would say, if
you're like, wait, I don't want to lie to myself,
well you're lying to yourself already if you don't think
you're worthy, because you are. But then the ways you

(04:14):
treat yourself and talk to yourself that are the ugly
frame stuff, well that's lying to yourself as well, because
you are absolutely one hundred percent worthy. And so the photo,
the picture, it always remains the same. That's you. Your
value does not change. But the new frame it's going

(04:35):
to help you look slightly different, feel different. So by
practicing reframing in a very constructive and helpful way, this
is going to be so empowering to you and know
to help you take the actions that are going to
get you closer to your desire, which I assume if
you're listening to this, your desire is to have a

(04:55):
healthier mindset, healthier body image, healthier self image. So now
I'm going to read off some affirmation. See which ones
resonate with you. Learning to love my body will take time,
but I am okay with it. I am beautiful the
way that I am. I love my body for all

(05:15):
it can do. I take care of my body out
of love and respect for myself. I am worthy of love.
My body is worthy of love. My body, heart, and
mind are strong and powerful. Other people's opinions of my
body are not relevant. I listen to my body's cues

(05:37):
and honor them. My body deserves proper nourishment and rest.
My body appreciates how I take care of it. I
am committed to give my body what it needs. I
honor my body with gratitude. My body deserves love. I

(06:00):
love and accept my body as it is. My body
is a good friend that I take loving care of. Okay,
that's a long list of them. Again, if one resonated
or rewind it and listen to them all again and
pick out the ones that work for you and start

(06:21):
telling them to yourself. Because from the earliest age, y'all,
we are bombarded with the ideas of who we're supposed
to be, what we're supposed to be, what our bodies
are supposed to look like. And this is particularly true
for women, though I do know that men face their
own challenges regarding body image. I know that some men
listen to outweigh so you are a part of this

(06:42):
as well. So sometimes if I just focus on women,
I guess because I am a woman and most of
the people I encounter and talk to about this happen
to be women. But the pressure is on all of us,
and there's a pressure to look a certain way, and
it can be overpowering. It can lead to anxiety and
other disorders. To mention that when we constantly worry about

(07:03):
our appearance, it can distract us from living life. The
beautiful life that's inside that picture frame. All that we
have going on in there and that we want to
see inside that frame is very very limited. When we
have that dingy frame around it, It's like, ough, I
don't really want to hang that on the wall. It's
not working but when you get the beautiful frame on it,

(07:23):
you're like, oh, let's put that up. And a lot
of people feel empowered through the idea of rejecting ideas
that have been put into our head from society. It
is so empowering when we're like, Okay, I'm no longer
going to accept that, I am going to practice radical

(07:43):
self love and I am going to start talking to
myself in a way. I don't even know if I
believe it yet, but I don't care. I am going
to say these affirmations, these mantras to myself as a
step towards the goal of the beautiful new frame. Because essentially,
that's the goal of affirmations, is to train your mind
to overcome these crazy, persistent, self sabotaging thoughts. So I

(08:09):
want you to repeat the positive affirmations daily, multiple times
a day, every hour, or whatever it looks like for you.
They can be a reminder to not take yourself or
your body for granted. And again, believing in what you're
saying isn't totally necessary at first, but eventually you're going

(08:29):
to have to get there. And it's perfectly normal to
feel resistance towards any of this at first, but I
challenge you to try it out, and then also maybe
choose one air of your body that is holding tension
and begin to have some dialogue with it. Maybe ask
that part of your body some questions and allow your

(08:49):
body to respond and trust that whatever comes through is
exactly what you're meant to hear, and see if maybe
talking to your body in a way, having gratitude for
your body and speaking to those body parts directly. I
know some of you are like, what this sounds like?
Wooh woohoop, but it works. I speak from experience. I

(09:10):
have done this for myself and I continue to do
it for myself. And so make sure you're taking time
to love your body, to take time to journal, hike
or sit in a chair and do some breath work
and check in with yourself, because I think not only
is it important to talk to yourself in a way

(09:32):
and do those affirmations, but check in with your body,
talk to it, see how it's doing. And then I'm
gonna leave you with a journaling prompt in case you
are a journaler, and journal about an intention for yourself.
A way that I'm going to take care of myself
today is and write about that a part of my

(09:56):
body that I am thankful for right now is and
write about that. So there you go. You got two prompts.
Maybe set a timer for three minutes and write about that,
see where it leads you, and try to do that
as much as you can. And then also maybe choose
your affirmation of choice and write it over and over

(10:16):
and over and over. There's times when I have filled
up an entire page of me just repeating a mantra
in affirmation over and over in my journal. There is
power in that. And I hope that some of this
is helpful to you wherever you are in your journey.
And I'll be back next Saturday with another episode of Outweigh,

(10:40):
another weekly dose of encouragement. Until then, I'll catch you
on Tuesday for the fifth Thing with Kat, and then
on Thursday for another four Things episode. All right, see
yeah bye
