Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the fifth thing. It's the Q and A
episode that goes along with the four Things podcasts. So
every Thursday we do the four Things episode. We cover
four things, and then I've got an email where questions
get sent in. You never know it's gonna show up
here that we're gonna get to talk about four things
with Amy Brown at gmail dot com. And so then
every Tuesday, the Q and A goes up. So this

(00:20):
last weekend was Father's Day and it was super cool
to see all the cool dad pictures that y'all were posting.
I love it. If you happen to be one of
the few guys that's listening to this podcast and your dad,
well happy Father's Day belated. Um. If you got a
cool dead shirt, amazing. But if you're one of the
like wives, daughters, whomever in your life you bought a
cool dad shirt for a father in your life, UM,

(00:43):
thank you because it was so fun. First of all,
it's part of our squaw line, which currently a SPUA
is supporting project Meta Share in haiti Um. But the
pictures were so neat and Mary put a call out
to make sure that people were tagging and up on
the shot forwards Instagram, she posted a little slide show
video of like a bunch of dads wearing their cool
dad shirts, and I just smiled the entire time because

(01:06):
I was like, man, I thought cool mom shirts were cool,
but there's something about seeing dad's wearing a cool dad shirt.
I don't know, the cool dad shirts might be cooler
than the cool mom shirts. Just saying I don't know,
but I hope everyone had an amazing Father's Day. But
I do get that, you know, days like that can
be hard for a lot of people. I mean, Mother's
Day is hard for me because I lost my mom

(01:27):
to cancer, so she hasn't been around for about five years,
and Mother's Day is always hard. And then for a
long time, I was also trying to be a mom,
Like we were trying to get pregnant, couldn't get pregnant,
we were trying to adopt, couldn't adopt. Took five years
for us to complete our Haitian adoption once we started
that one. So I get it. It's not lost on
me that, UM, times like that can be really hard
for a lot of you. So if this last weekend

(01:48):
was hard, I'm with you, UM sending all the hugs
and you know, you just gotta remember the good times
with whomever, or just remember that sometimes struggle is in
your life. Um, there is a better outcome down the road.
You just have to be patient. And that's what I
always used to say when I wasn't getting pregnant and
I prayed to be pregnant and prayed to be pregnant.

(02:08):
I'm like, now I look at my two beautiful Haitian children,
which were not a part of my husband and I
plan at all whatsoever, But it was a part of
God's ultimate plan for us. So it's amazing. So be patient.
Let's get into the first question, which is from Cindy. Hey, Amy,
Bobby mentions from time to time how much he loves

(02:30):
your nut cheese. I had never heard of this until
you and Bobby talked about it and it was a
hit at your gathering. Will you please give out your recipe? Um,
either email me back or share it on your fifth thing.
That would be great. Thank you, So Cindy. Um, yeah,
I don't call it nut cheese. I call it like
vegan ca so but I'm sure maybe that's what Bobby
calls it because I make it with nuts cash you.

(02:51):
But I'm lazy. So I normally buy a store bought
cash you cheese that's already made and it's like made
to be like k. So. A good brand that I
love is Sieta Foods s I E. T E. Sieta.
They have amazing chips, tortillos tortillos um. I don't know
why I said that, chips tortillas K. So they just

(03:13):
came out with a new bean dip which is amazing.
It's like a sprouted bean dip. But anyway, if you
can't find Sietta there, maybe like another brand at your
grocery store that but I would check the ingredients because
sometimes there might be something shady inside. But normally they're
cashew based and like taste like cheese. But I will
to like expand it and make it a little bit

(03:34):
more fun. I add, so I do like a jar
of that, and then I add a jar of salsa,
and then boom, you're done. Um, And maybe I'll sprinkle
in like I'll do like a normal sausa. But then
I'll throw in like half a jar of a black
bean and corn salsa to add a little bit different flavor.
And the beans in the corn is a nice touch.
So that's what I do. Boom. It's simple. But if

(03:55):
you are not a fan of cashews or nuts or something. Um.
I do know of two recipes that you could try out.
One is from Laura Lee. I've mentioned her on the
podcast before. She's got great recipes. Her website is lll
balance dot com and she has one called sweet Potato
Rotel Dip and it's the basis sweet potatoes and cauliflower. Um.

(04:18):
And that's how you get like the creamy texture and
the color that looks like cheese, but it's a it's
a vegan queso situation. And then on minimalists it's hard
for me to say minimalist baker dot com, there's a
cash you less vegan queso and it's based like what
it's made out of is eggplant, so um. Both of

(04:39):
those are ones I recommend trying out. But again, if
you don't want to make it from scratch, you can
kind of do like I do. And she get a
jar of ct so or any kind of vegan queso
and boom throwing some salsa. Good to go people. People
will not know the difference. I make it all the time.
I mean, I guess just depending on the brand and
what you get, but the kind that I personally make
my husband's like, I cannot believe this is not real cheese.

(05:01):
Next question is from Daisy. Do you recommend any kind
or brand of sunscreen for both face and body that
is on the safer side. I ordered some natural oils
that Kelly on Velvet's Edge recommended, but I would love
to get more ideas. Thank you again for all you do.
Hopefully here back So Daisy, Yes, I am a big
fan of Suntegrity Skincare um Suntegrity Skincare dot com is

(05:26):
where you can find it. And I learned about that
company from Kimberly Snyder because she's all about non toxic
things that she put it on her body, and I'm
not the non toxic body expert. I still put stuff
on my skin that's toxic. I get it. I'm not
completely clean in that department. But that is a sunscreen
that I've ordered. I have multiple bottles. I use it
when I'm going out for a walk at the park

(05:46):
or I make sure to put it all over my
chest if I'm wearing a tank top and going outside.
Not getting any younger, I feel like my chest is
one of the places where I'm really starting to age.
I could do everything to take care of my face,
and then I completely ignore my neck in my chest,
and I'm like, I need to pay better attention to that.
And then I texted Mary earlier to get the name
of one that she likes, and I actually went to

(06:06):
Amazon and I just ordered it myself because anytime I
go visit her in California, I borrow it. And it's
so good and I don't know how to say it,
but it's like kinnesis maybe k I n E s
Y S. And again I found it on Amazon and
I ordered the SPF fifty. It's fragrance free, it's a
clear spray, it's oil and alcohol free, hypoallergenic, it's it

(06:29):
says it's okay for sensitive and oily skin. I don't
know where it ranks up with Sntegrity, because I know
that that one's a clean one because it's Kimberly Snyder approved.
But the kinnesis, again I don't know how to say,
it is a really really good one, Like I can't
wait to get it in because it just goes on
easy and it's sprays on clear. The Sntegrity, I will say,
I have to rub in a little bit longer. Um.

(06:50):
Next question is from Kristen. Hey, Amy, your podcast has
been inspiring me to make better food choices. I've increased
my workouts from one to two times a week to
three to four. The problem is, I'm so sore after
my workouts it's hard to get back to the gym
right away. What are some tips for recovering after a
workout and pushing through the sore nous to the next
time you work out. So, Kristen, I reached out to

(07:13):
my trainer Erin for this and this was her response.
Be sure that you're breaking up your body parts when training.
You shouldn't be doing legs every workout. Spread them out
and be sure that you are foam rolling and stretching properly.
And then keep your body moving outside of your workouts.
Sometimes the last thing you want to do after hard
workout is to go for a walk, but that's exactly

(07:35):
what you need to do to help loosen things up.
And speaking of Aaron and moving, I will say that
her next step that game has started, but it's just
the warm up week. So it started This week right
now is the warm up week, and you can still join.
I'm actually going to join soon. I need to sign up,
but we have until Sunday if you want to get

(07:55):
in on this round, because I definitely want to keep
moving this summer and and the step bet game like
helps me do that. So all you have to do
is get the step bet app and then find Aaron
Opria's game O p r e A and make sure
you join her games so that we can all play together.
It's awesome, but walking moving and then foam rolling feels

(08:16):
so good, Kristen. If you don't have a foam roller,
you gotta go like to Target, Walmart, whatever, Amazon, order one.
It feels so good. But I'm I'm the worst. Like
whenever I'm doing and I'm like, oh, this feels so amazing.
Why am I not doing this more? But sometimes I'll
go days without doing it or even weeks, and then
I work it back into my routine and I'm like, okay, yes,
but I will say with like my back pain, if
I foam roll my hamstrings, my back starts to feel better,

(08:39):
so everything's all connected. Um, and I film roll my
calves so that feels amazing. I worked out my cap.
Speaking of being sore, I never work out my calves,
but I had hurt my neck a little bit and
I couldn't really do much. So Aaron and I were
working out, and I was like, honestly, Aaron, I don't
know what I can do. So literally we started working
out my calves and clearly I need to do that
more because I was definitely sore. Next question is from Jaden. Hey, Amy,

(09:13):
I love looking at your favorite things on your Amazon account.
I would like to try many of the things from
your grocery list, but I don't even know where to start.
I want to live a healthier lifestyle and need advice.
What would you suggest or must have from your grocery
list as I start this journey? What are your favorite
and most effective ways to use the must have? Any
tips to living a healthier lifestyle. So, Jaden, if you're

(09:34):
starting on a healthier lifestyle, my first thing is going
to say, don't shop from my Amazon page. I mean,
there's good stuff up there, but it's not whole foods,
like you can't order like real legit food from my
Amazon account, like all the vegetables that you need and
fruits and mainly just fruits and vegetables. I would say,
like trying to eat whole real foods, like quality meats.

(09:58):
If you're into eating meat um tempe. Maybe if you're not,
if you're more on the the vegetarian or vegan side,
like you're not gonna be able to get that from
my Amazon page. And that's where you're going to see
the biggest difference in your body is if you are
trying to get the real food that's like, this is
what God made for our bodies. It's grown from the ground.

(10:18):
Or you know, obviously meat isn't grown from the ground.
But y'all are following what I'm saying here, like it's
quality food that is not processed or anything. And I
would say some stuff in my quote pantry from Amazon
isn't processed stuff. But I do love my macha that's
up there, which if you aren't drinking that, that's a
great tea, a good way to get caffeine and antioxidants.

(10:41):
But you can mix that in with some unsweetened vanilla
all the milk. My mata recipe is up on my
Instagram page radio Amy. You go to radio amy dot
com to to access um my Instagram and my Amazon
account and all that. But I would say if you're
starting that healthier lifestyle, It's not going to be from
my Amazon account. It's gonna be from finding whole foods

(11:02):
and recipes that you really like and cooking from home,
which I know is so hard to do. But when
you eat out, you don't know the ingredients that you're getting. Um.
And then try to eat at home as much as
you can so you can enjoy those times out with
friends and family or whatever, so you can't go out
to eat and find that balance. Vital proteins is something
that is on my Amazon account that I do recommend

(11:24):
and that you can throw into macha. Um. It's unflavored. Um.
But yeah, other than that, if you're starting on that journey, sorry,
I'm I don't want you to start from my Amazon page. Okay, deal, okay.
Next question is from Addison, and this is me reading
her email verbatim. I suck at pimp and joy o MG.

(11:44):
I was at the store and I had a fifty
dollar gift card and I tried on all these clothes
and I didn't want to buy anything because I didn't
like the way anything looked. Then I see this cute
family that had a little baby, and I thought it
would be so much more enjoyable to give this gift
card to them, but I didn't want them to feel
like it was charity. I see them at the counter
and I drump. I jump in front of them, and

(12:05):
I hand the card to the guy ringing them up,
and I said, here, please apply this to their purchase.
I didn't want them to see, even though I was
one ft away. The dad was like, what's the problem.
So I handed the card to the checker outer and
I walked away, not looking at them. I can't believe
how stupid I feel when I'm just trying to do
something nice. Please can you give me some tips on
how to do this better? I should have said pimp

(12:26):
and joy or explain, but I did not know I
was doing it wrong yet. So and then she signed
it love you a big weirdo, which Addison, You're not
a weirdo. I think it's very sweet that you were
trying to do this for this family. Um. I think
that it's awesome that you decided. You know, if you
weren't finding something for yourself and you saw you wanted

(12:47):
to bless this family. There is nothing wrong with doing that.
You can try to be a little bit more sly
with your efforts. But if they're already checking out and
you're really just trying to get it in there, and
then I don't think there's anything wrong with walking up
to them and just saying, hey, you know what, I
have this gift card. This is totally random. I understand

(13:08):
the feeling of them not wanting to feel like a
charity case. Totally get that. And I don't know why
you chose them, but for whatever reason, it was put
on your heart when you saw them that you wanted
to do this. Boom. It's as simple as that. So
you can walk up, hand the card and just you
can just say just that I had this gift card.
I'm not going to use it. I just wanted to
use it to bless someone today, so I'm choosing to

(13:29):
do it here. If you'll please use this towards your purchase,
like I hope you'll have an amazing day. Pay it
forward somehow. If they're like, no, no, no, we don't
need this, just be like, hey, it's not about that,
it's not about whether you need it or not. I
would like to give this to you and then you
can just spread joy to someone else. And and then
they don't feel like, oh, this is charity. Like they're

(13:49):
looking at me like you're just passing it along to them,
and then they can choose whether or not they want
to continue to pay it forward, which hopefully they will.
And I would say, um, obviously if you're in a
predicament where you have to encounter them, um. And then
there are other times where maybe you could just you know,
be a little bit more discreet, but it's hard, especially

(14:12):
if they're already checking out. But maybe if you just
did want to bless someone when you are maybe you're
checking out yourself, or you find a cashier and you say, hey,
I have no idea who the next family that's going
to come in your line is, or maybe you can
use your discretion, but here's a fifty dollar gift card.
I want you to, you know, just use this on
the next family that comes or the next family that
you see that needs it, and hopefully the cashier will

(14:34):
will help you out. And that way it's like totally anonymous.
Nothing's weird. The cashier can literally just say to the family, hey,
guess what, You're not gonna believe this. There was a
customer here right before you. They gave me a fifty
dollar gift card to bless the next family that came
along and boom, It's simple is that now? I guess
now you have to trust the facts as a cashier
is actually going to do that. But if the cashier
takes it and doesn't do it well, then you just

(14:55):
have to hope that they needed it more than somebody
else and then eventually they'll pay forward as well. Um,
so you're not a weirdo. I think it's awesome that
you decided you wanted to spread joy, which that's what
pimp and Joy is all about. I mean, it started
with my mom wanting to choose joy during her cancer battle,
and but she would also spread joy to others even

(15:17):
when she felt like crap most times from treatment and
radiation and chemo and all the things. But she was
always so kind and nice to everybody. But that made
her feel better. So what y'all can do to keep
the pimp and Joy movement going is, yeah, just find
little ways to choose joy for yourself and then be
kind to others and spread joy. I love when sometimes
people will go to Starbucks and there's that whole thing

(15:40):
where you start, there's like a chain reaction. You start
paying for people. But sometimes I'll see pictures on Instagram
where they're like I was at Starbucks and it was
so crazy. The car in front of me pay for
my coffee and told the barista to put hashtag pimp
and Joy on the cup. And then in the person
that received the free coffee knew what pimp and Joy was.
So it's like two listeners back to back in the
star books line spreading Joy and pimp and Joy and

(16:03):
so those are fun stories. So anytime you'll have stuff
to share, we love seeing y'all. It's not that you're
bragging about it at all, but you can just let
us know about it online and use the hashtag pimp
and Joy because it can be used as you know,
motivation for other people to go out and choose joy
and spread joy. It's not a way to brag like
you can. You can just influence others. There's a word

(16:25):
I'm looking for, um inspire maybe or something not influence,
but inspire others to go out and do the same
after they see what you do. So, um, Addison, maybe
now that I have read your email here in the
Q and A episode, your actions to do this for
this sweet family and give away your fifty dollar gift
card may inspire someone else that is listening. So you're

(16:47):
not a big weirdo. You are awesome, and I think
it's great that this is a new part of your life.
Pimp and joy Spreading joy is a new thing to you.
But keep it up. It feels good. It feels good,
So I love that y'all are all about that. Okay,
that wraps up today's Q and A episode. Keep the
questions coming, um, going through like a lot, a lot,

(17:08):
a lot, And I'm trying to keep these episodes not
too long, um because I felt like sometimes I was
getting too long. If y'all have any thoughts on that,
y'all can send me you're, you know, opinions on episode
length and what ya would like it to be. But
I'm trying to keep the Q and A anywhere between
fifteen and twenty minutes, and then the Four Things podcast

(17:29):
anywhere between like forty five minutes in an hour. And
there were some episodes where I was getting like a
way over an hour and I was like, oh am,
I losing people. So I'm kind of like throwing this
out there is a little pull, like if you all
want to reply to me and let me know your
thoughts on episode length. I was talking to Mary about
it the other day and she was like, link doesn't
really bother me. It's quality of like content quality, like

(17:50):
if I'm really interested in. Obviously, I don't care how
long it is, because you can kind of pick up
on a podcast. You may not be able to listen
to all at once, but maybe you could listen to
thirty minutes he or thirty minutes there, which I agree.
Sometimes if I'm really enjoying something, I'm like, well, well,
I'm sad when it's over. But sometimes with the Q
and A, I feel like I could go on and
on answering questions. And I don't know a lot of
times if the questions apply to everybody listening. So it's hard,

(18:15):
but I'm going to try to get through about four
or five questions per episode. So that's what we knocked
out here today. We maybe even did. Let's see how
many of we did today, Cindy, Daisy, Kristen, Jaden, um Addison.
I didn't. I didn't even count. I just said their names,
so shout out one, two, three or five. We got

(18:37):
to five. Okay, all right, and now I'm rambling. So
I've wasted about a minute of your life on nothing
other than I want y'all to email and talk to
me about your thoughts on time, length and quality of
episodes and stuff like that. Okay, I hope you have
an amazing, amazing week and we will see you on Thursday. Deal. Okay, Bye,
